Speaker 2 (00:33):
Greetings and welcome back in Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Sunday,
Mike Carmen alongside Dan Bayer.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Thanks for being with us.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
We've been doing the division by division preview for fantasy football. Yeah,
I watch a Flex podcast up wherever you get your
audio download and give it Fox Stars. We'll love you forever.
Send it to friends and family as we continue to
our quest for global domination in the fantasy realm as
well as what we do here on Fox Sports Radio.
But we're talking about the AFC South today and trying
(01:02):
to find some sex, appeal to it and excitement. Well
it's a little difficult. Texans are the favorite to win
the division. Latest odds. I'm looking at Vegas Insider plus
one ten Jaguars at plus two to sixty, the wishing wanting,
hoping that Liam Cohen and Trevor Lawrence will find some magic.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
The Colts at plus three.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Fifty Daniel Jones, we'll get to him in a second,
and then the Tennessee Titans bringing up the rear plus
eight hundred. Welcome to the NFL, cam Ward. Those are
your divisional odds. But you start looking at it for
fantasy purposes and trying to find some value. And there's
players that we like, Don't get me wrong, It just
becomes for fantasy value. Where do we find them? The
(01:43):
quarterback position wherever? You know, whenever we start these process,
like you and I have been doing this a long time,
so we might look more to the run game.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
We still love our three yards in.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
A class absolutely, but in the new look NFL of
PPR leagues and four forty five hundred yard passers all
over the place, we looked at the quarterbacks. You realize
nobody from this division is ranked higher than eighteenth at
the position. C. J. Stroud comes in at number eighteen,
just ahead of Trevor Lawrence, with a little bit of
(02:14):
a gap. When you start talking about Ward, Richardson and
Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
And when you look at what the Texans have this year,
there's it's a lot. It's a much different feel than
it was a year ago because c J. Stroud was
coming off of that great rookie season Mike and you
had Nico Collins there, you had Tank Dell there, and
you had the addition of Stefan Diggs. This was a
year ago and you're saying, Wow, sure Joe Mixon was
(02:40):
brought in. I wasn't completely sold on that. Mixon was
magnificent for them last year. Diggs got hurt, Tank Dell
got hurt again, and then all of a sudden, c J.
Stroud's not the same c J. Stroud. He's dealing with
his own thing, and so talk about you know, the
and this is a team, by the way, it did
make the playoffs and a playoff game, but there were
(03:02):
such high expectations coming into last season and the Texans
some people had Super Bowl, super Bowl contender for what
they were, and I think last year was a little
bit of a letdown. I'm wondering if that's going to
help a ranking like that, if that would help the
Houston Texans because you add Nick Chubb, this offseason. You
(03:22):
still have Joe mix In there, but the wide receiver position,
Nico Collins clearly the number one there, and then he
drafted a lot of younger guys that can find their spots.
I think that could help the Houston Texans and help
a guy like CJ. Stroud and that offense to be
ranked in the bottom half when it comes to fantasy.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
You know, it's fun trying to figure out cause and
effect because we do this all the time. Look at
a quarterback, he's taken however many sacks, right, maybe a
Bears guy Caleb Williams, And then we start going and
trying to evaluate, well, that one's seventy percent on him,
that's thirty percent on line, that flip whatever.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
And for CJ. Strado was a lot of that, right,
how much.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Of the lack of depth beyond Nico Collins went available?
Did you have to really give him an afford him
a chance where he had receivers that would break containment
so he could get the ball out versus holding it
too long. So trying to figure out I didn't love
their offensive line, but they graded out terribly. Yes, And
now for this year it's much the same, Like I
(04:23):
looked at Warren Sharp has his early rankings out and
he's got Houston at thirty second going into the year. So,
but you've got guys, as you said, with Mixon and Chubb,
that are going to make a bad offensive line look
adequate and maybe are just enough with healthy wide receivers
even if they're just warm bodies, plus to make CJ.
(04:45):
Stroud that much more of a weapon this year after
the sophomore slum.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
Yeah, they were a much better offensive line and Stroud's
rookie season now no more Laramie Tunzel. That is going
to be the key point honestly too if you look
at if you look at the vision as well, when
you just look at the offensive lines, Houston's got questioned
so much. So to Mike's point, some people are rating
at the worst offensive line in the NFL, and sometimes
(05:11):
that's tough to do for how bad certain offensive lines are.
The Colts obviously have Quinton Nelson, but they lost key
pieces this offseason to Minnesota, so you're replacing some interior
guys or tackles are fine. When you look at Tennessee,
they've invested in offensive line prior to drafting cam Ward.
Their previous two first round picks were linemen. They were
(05:32):
also active in free agency, So I'm not saying that
Tennessee is the end all be all Jacksonville's questions as well,
But this is a weird division when it comes to
offensive lines, Mike, because nobody necessarily stands out. The Colts
probably would be the one that you would you would take,
just because almost by process of elimination with the problems
(05:54):
with the others, I think Tennessee's is going to be
all right. But I do think that there are question
marks with Jacksonville and Houston, the teams that we think
should be better.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
And then we get to the curiosity, and when we
get to the skill position players, we do have several
that that rank highly enough, Jonathan Taylor still comes in
at the back end of the RB ones, but then
it's a precipitous dip from there when you look at
the rest of the division. Right, etn is the guy
that never was, and now is that tank Bigsby battling him?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
There?
Speaker 2 (06:22):
We look at at Tennessee Pollard, but he's a part
timer with spears.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
So which which do you like there?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
I mean, now we're talking about RB threes and rolling
the dice on which one is going to be give
you above a win out of that position. Uh, and
and just keep going on down the line. That and
and for Houston, if Nick Chubb's Nick Chubb of two
years ago, now, now you've got to pick your poison
and then they can both eat. But on a week
(06:52):
to week basis, does it become a hot hand scenario?
Speaker 3 (06:55):
And if CJ.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Stroud's slinging it again, how much does that pull back
from what you had in the run game a year
ago with Joe Mixon? So a little bit of lever
pulling as we go.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Yeah, I find it when you look at the running
back position. There's Jonathan Taylor in Indianapolis and there's no
one else like brun of what Khalil Herbert was that
I think.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, Actually, well they've been having a hole. They drafted
out of Northwestern last year he was straight to ir.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
So there's I mean, there's not a lot there to
back up Jonathan Taylor. Your point about the Texans, are
you just trying to get seventeen games out of a
combination of Mixon and Chubb right where maybe it's mixing
twelve and Chubb five or however, I don't necessarily know
what they're looking for in that aspect. Jacksonville, your point
(07:43):
about Etn is spot on, because there's also a different feel.
Even though Doug Peterson took over for Urban Meyer, I
still felt this Trevor Lawrence Travis Etn package sort of
deal that they had felt like they were together and
now they just end you end up parting in getting
(08:04):
further further apart the more your careers are down the line,
tink Bigsby was just a better play. Now Liam Cohen's
there with no affiliation towards Travis Etn, And you wonder,
all right, if if the main objective is to fix
Trevor Lawrence, then you don't care necessarily on what happens
with with Travis Etn and if he works out, and
(08:26):
if Big B is just a better player, just play Bigsby.
But yeah, and then in Tennessee again, I don't want
to say flip a coin, because you know Pollard did
have Pollard was better than he was in his final
season in Dallas. But you have a couple of guys
there where you think you know the pecking order. But again,
there's just questions about the offensive line. Even though they've
(08:47):
invested in it. Now you have a rookie quarterback.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Can we talk about room for what you're building towards
the future and what you want to see and how
early you start implementing that because you know the active
tanking to it, it becomes part of the process. Because Tennessee,
by all accounts, we're still talking about a team that's
battling for one of the time picks again next year.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
Now.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Mike Florida even just put on an article today of
I think it was piggybacking off of a previous article
on how Brian Callahan is on the hot seat. You
should be on the hot seat when you only win
three games, even if it's your first season, you probably
shouldn't have the leeway of you're going to need two
or three years. But especially when you make a change
in the front office where now Brian Callahan doesn't have
(09:29):
the people that brought him in and they're looking they
may have somebody else in mind. It maybe do or
die early in Tennessee, and I thought it would work out.
I thought, hey, let Brian Callahan go in. Maybe this dips,
it goes worse before it gets better. But it's tough
to get any worse than they were last year. It's
just I don't know if he's going to be around.
Considering the new faces in that organism.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
You get an opportunity to rebuild it, all right. We
look at the wide receiver position. We do actually have
two top ten guys. We mentioned Nico Collins before and
then Brian Thomas, who had a fantastic to gear for
all of the problems and inconsistencies we've seen with Trevor Lawrence,
we saw him. The curiosity though, is in Jacksonville, not
with Thomas. If he's healthy, he's a top ten play.
(10:12):
It's the how high do you value Travis Hunter.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
I don't value him fantasy wise. I And this is
where I'm I'm so Brian Thomas. Last year, there was
a point we were doing at we were doing our
podcast and you mentioned, You're like, right now, Brian Thomas
is second in the AFC and yards, and I'm like,
there's no way that can be true.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
And then he ends up he.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Was at the time, and he ended up finishing second
in the AFC and yards, and I'm like, how did
this happen? And so even last time, I'm looking over
numbers and I looked at their I looked at their schedule,
Mike that they had over where he really made his
hay over the last part of the season. I mean
there's you know, there's Titans sprinkled and there's a bad division,
you know, so I mean there really wasn't much resistance.
(11:01):
But you play who's on your schedule, right, that's it.
And and so he made hey and he got a
lot of targets. And now the Christian Kirk battled injuries.
But Christian Kirk's not there anymore. Travis Hunter, I think
part time player right now, at least early on. Evan
Ingram's no longer there. Like there's it is it is
(11:21):
all for Brian Thomas. I am not as high on
Travis Hunter right now as a play, but my goodness,
like who else? I think, what else are they gonna do?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
They brought in Diami Brown from Washington. Commander's yeah, And
then we talk about the depth and running back tight
end is Brenton Strange a decided down downgrade from a
guy who caught what eighty five balls or ninety balls
or whatever the hell Evan Ingram caught a year ago.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
And so if you it's It's if you're looking at
the Jaguars and you're looking at how they're gonna change,
it's all on Trevor Lawrence. It's all on on his
progression and what he does with the new coaching staff.
So Trevor Lawrence at least knows Brian Thomas. You may
not know everybody else. And I just I think that
is a great, great sign. I wanted to come in
(12:12):
and poo pooh Brian Thomas. I made every effort. I
even talked about his bad schedule. But I couldn't even
shy away from that because even if they're playing better teams,
guess what, Mike, They're gonna be down, gonna do.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Yes, yes, So everything keeps coming back. You want Ryan Thomas.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
You want to take a guess at the ADP on
Fantasy Pros right now for Travis Hutter.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Oh geez, I'm gonna say eighty thirty.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Wow, amongst wide receivers right now, he is thirty way off. Look,
I would have thought low forties, you know, to where
he's a WR four, which means the final six weeks
of the season, they're just bombing it away and whatever.
So we get to the best ball scenario to where
he would end up ranking there, because again it's you
(12:59):
know you versus what a ranking is. You know, we
always talk about this on the podcast. It's a very
different world, right sure in terms of the EBB and
flow of a season. But yeah, he's thirty year.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
So you were doing super flex or just with all
Because I looked at it in a way, what was
the position.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
For its thirtieth for PPR leagues?
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Okay, for wide receivers, for wide receivers, I thought you
were doing no, no, no, yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
So yeah, no, not flex position. He'd certainly fall.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Much further, but still but that still seems a much
higher because it really does put a lot that people
all these years later still think Trevor Lawrence is going
to come out like Yangbusters. Sure, and Liam Cohen is
the guy that cracked the code to unleash the guy
that we saw had climbs in all those years.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
I mean, look and looking at the names. Yeah, Jerry
Judy's below him, Jordan Addison's below them. I know there's
questions of Minnesota on this. We don't know who's going
to be the quarterback in Cleveland, but they at least
put more on Tim Khalil Shakir, Like if Travis Hunter
had Khalil Shakir's season, that's a success absolutely and right
now secures.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
Below him in those rankings.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
So well, there you go post draft type. Maybe some
guys that invested in rookie cards coming up next. Yeah,
we didn't forget about it. We go to the AFC North,
a lot of new faces, new places, and a guy
that just showed up and his eighty eight catches. What
does he do for your fantasy squad? We'll talk about
it next Here. He's Dan, I'm Mike, and this is
Fox Sports Sunday. Welcome back in Fox Sports Radio. It's
(14:27):
Fox Sports Sunday by Carbon Dan Byer with you doing
our fantasy preview going division to division. We're in the
AFC North for this week's edition and got some heavyweights
at each position. But I'm curious for one particular quarterback.
We talked about him in the past, but I don't
know though we put a fantasy ranking on him.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
What do you do with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
I think there are top three intriguing team fantasy wise.
I'm not saying scoring wise are going to be top three, Mike,
but on who do you bet On and I think
Rogers is a good question. But nowadays, in terms of
when I'm looking at a quarterback and where I'm looking
around the NFL, you at least have to be mobile,
and Aaron Rodgers was at one point in his career.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
He is.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
He is no longer. He is no.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Longer the Aaron Rodgers that we saw a decade or
a decade and a half ago. So despite the new
shiny toy of John new Smith and DK Metcalf being there,
I think that there's a ceiling. There's no way he's
going to be my starter. I am not big on
Aaron Rodgers as a legit weekend week out starter in
(15:36):
fantasy football.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
And current Fantasy pros number twenty eight. So that means
whatever game's played, if you were a betting man, you'd
say you'd take the under and then you push from there.
And you also have no faith in Arthur Smith, and
this is working out a bigger shop.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Even if he was higher Mike, there isn't the upside
of cracking the top ten. Yeah, so even if he
was sixteen, I would be like, Okay, okay, I can
see it. You think he's going to be better than
Trevor Lawrence. That's totally fine, sure, completely reasonable, but it
doesn't It's still he wouldn't be he wouldn't be higher
than you know in mind, like I think Jordan love
(16:14):
Is is better justin Fields Rock Purty guys who are
in that ten to fifteen range right now. I would
much rather have those guys instead of Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
Are you with me on.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
That hundred percent?
Speaker 2 (16:27):
He's to me an undraftable unless I'm in a deeper
league where I'm just stashing available quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
What do you think of the Steelers tight ends? Like?
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Is it because john Neus Smith's now there and Arthur
Smith he benefits? I mean, you can't expect Johnny Smith
to do what he did in Miami because he was
really darned good.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
But yeah, eighty eight catches a year ago? What eight
hundred and fifty yards? Red zone efficiency is always the
big question and how guys are going to get fed?
We know Rogers does love to use the tight end.
Problem is you also have Pat Fryarmouth there, so unless
something moves and changes in that structure, you're look at
(17:05):
John who's got to be a back end one. And
then from Booth becomes the all right if he gets
if Smith is hurt, or we start seeing the the
installation of a new England Patriots type offense. Remember, just
because outside of DK Metcalf, you still have a lot
of unproven maybe some intriguing guys Roman Wilson and those
(17:25):
guys that might emerge, but you don't have a true
number two.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
So the tight ends are gonna be called upon to
do a lot of work.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
And honestly, DK Metcalf's value doesn't change for me from
what he was in Seattle to Pittsburgh. That's a matter
of if it was Gino Smith, Sam Darnold or Aaron
Rodgers as his quarterback. To me, he is what he is.
I think the Steelers backfield is interesting Caleb Johnson over
Jalen Warren at this point, even though I think you're
seeing a lot of depth charts with Warren number one.
(17:52):
Caleb Johnson, the rookie out of iowas likely your best bet.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Currently being drafted as an RB three, they're about the same.
I think people are just flipping a coin and once
someone spurs their memory and saying, all right, you got warrant, Okay,
I'll take Johnson. It's one of those kind of drafts
that you go through. It's like, well, they're gonna split
you got one half. I'm gonna break your handcuff and
run from there. You would care to venture a guess
as to war DK Metcalf ranks amongst wide receivers.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Okay, I'm going to say sixteen twenty three.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Who alight?
Speaker 2 (18:27):
He is right there with h But here's here's the
curiosity leagues. This is yeah, I went full PPR in
terms of how I looked at it. But here we
have Marvin Harrison junior, Courtland Sutton, Davante Smith are the
guys wrapping around him?
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Okay, all right, So Courtland Sutton wide receiver one, Davante
Smith a wide receiver two.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
That's where you're starting to get the blend.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
That's something something that I look at when I want
the second best wide receiver on a team that can
throw the ball a lot.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
Or do I want to just take the you know,
w R one.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
At that point I would probably go.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Gosh, I'd probably go DK over Courtland Sutton. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
I think they're gonna run the ball more in in Denver. Yeah,
making things as easy as they can on bo Nicks
and his sophomore season. Another curiosity right there down below
DeVante Smith was Zay Flowers of the Baltimore Ravens. And
then you go back up in the rankings obviously Jamar
Chase number one, T Higgins fourteen.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Za Flowers to me is maybe no different than Aaron Rodgers,
like I think he's even with the addition of DeAndre
Hopkins in Baltimore. The problem, the thing that hurts say
Flowers the most isn't the other wide receivers around him
or lack thereof. It isn't the running game. It's the
tight ends. There's no way, there's no way you're gonna
(19:58):
score ten touchdowns, no, none.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Unless you're jail breaking a bunch.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Yes, So that is just it's out of the question.
And by and large, unless you're have superstats, you are
going to need touchdowns to be able to move up
tears and he just doesn't have it. So he can,
he can get catches, he can get yards, it's just
he's not going to score touchdowns. And you know Lamar's
going to take some touchdowns. Derrick Henry obviously sure. So
(20:27):
aside from just even the tight ends of Mark Andrews
and Isaah likely being targets that it's just not there
for Za Flowers. So that's like he has a ceiling.
For as much as you think he can progress and
be a weapon, he just he has that ceiling because
of everybody around him.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Now let's go back to the fun and excitement of
the quarterback position. Obviously, Cleveland has four guys in camp
latest report, Kenny Pickett, super Bowl champion Kenny Pickett uh
the leader. He and Joe Flacco. Obviously the veterans Dylan
Gabriel should do or Sanders. I think folks are going
to realize real fast that it's not seven on seven
drills for the latter, too soon enough. But all of
(21:08):
that to say that's not fantasy draftable, so we push on.
But when we look at the rest of their roster
also difficult. Jerry Judy had a good year, but how
much stock can you put in that He's.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
Only valuable if Joe Flacco plays. I think that's fair.
That's the only way that you can feel comfortable. And
Jerry Judy was great towards the end of the of
the season last year. Jamie's throwing the football like there's
there could be value there in Djoku. I think could
be interesting whether it be Flacco or Picket like of
(21:45):
that spin off, But the Browns are fantasy relevant if
Joe Flacco starts. If he doesn't, whether it's Shador, Dylan
Gabriel or Kenny Picket, it just becomes a fantasy wasteland
in my mind.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
The other quarterbacks, I mean it's it's Lamar and Burrows,
so they're flying off the board. Yeah, I mean there's
Burrow currently ranks fifth.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
The Bengals, you mentioned t Higgins fourteen earlier, I think
they are a fantasy jackpot. But that defense, you don't
know what's happening with Trey Hendrickson. You know they made changes,
but Samar Stewart still hasn't signed. Likely, I think that'll
a little be resolved by the start of the season,
but you never know what the Cincinnati Bengals, so again,
if they're not stopping anyone, you know they're going to
(22:28):
have to score points. It's why I actually think that
Chase Brown is being completely undervalued because if they're getting
in shootouts like they were last year, and they did
make some changes on the offensive line, made a draft
pick year prior, they used a number one pick on
Amaria Simms. So you have like pieces on the offensive line.
(22:51):
They made a change with their offensive line coach, so
protect Joe Burrow and score points. Because that defense just
didn't stop anybody. And I can't think that it's going
to be anything different. I think I think Cincinnati is
just a fantasy jackpot all around.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Like, yeah, defense, she got little rid of lou Anarumo
last after last year's debacle. I just want to see
if they actually want to play football in September. Sure, right,
And look we talked TJ. Watts. Thing will get settled
in Pittsburgh, like keep seeing all the trade rumors and
whatever else. They usually do a lot of work during
training camp in terms of dotting eyes crossing T's So
(23:28):
I think they eventually get him in and get going
with Cincinnati. All bets are off, man, you might have
one of those long city in kind of scenarios hanging out.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
Do you like Chase Brown?
Speaker 3 (23:39):
I do? I do.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
It's just a question of as a draft board breaks,
where where's the sweet spot for him?
Speaker 4 (23:47):
He's in a group right now that I feel is
so intriguing. So if in the half point Fantasy pros,
where I'm at right now, half point PPR. He's below
kyn Williams and above Briefs Hall, James Cook and Kenneth Walker.
And I am on board, especially with the bottom three.
Cook question about contract status in Buffalo. Kenneth Walker's just
(24:11):
injury prone. He watched it every year. Yes, you have
a couple of games, Yeah, brilliant and then he's gone.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
So I think they've got Chase Brown in the right spot.
But they have Bucky Irving ahead of Chase Brown, which
a little surprised. But I ken Argan's only two spots.
I like Hion Williams a lot. I think that there's
a drop off. I think that there is something less.
I expect Briestall to have a better season than he
did last year, But now you're wondering on how much
Justin Fields takes away from what he does, and does
(24:39):
Braillen Allen have more of a role. That's the only
question I'd have about Brees Hall. But the couple of
running backs that are below Chase Brown, I have no
problems with.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
See Briestall's the type of guy that in the end
he will rank highly. But you're gonna lose your mind
week to week, sure, right, because you may have that
seventy three and a burst of pay dirt, but you
also might have an eighty yr day and Braylan Allen
takes those short yardage touchdowns her fields does it himself
