Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen, you want experience during your football season, well, buckle.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Up, sweet cheeks.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
All We've got all the experience in the world. This
is I want your flex with Dan Bayer and Mike Harmon.
Mike and Dan break down everything you need to set
your lineups, from position rankings.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
To starts and sits.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
The guys help you make those hard decisions. And now
let's get your flex sod Here's Dan Bayer and Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
That's it for Week five in impressive fashion by the
Jacksonville Jaguars. He is Mike Carmenate him up at Swomodom.
You can find me at Dan Byer on Foxy, and
Roddy is the executive producer at Ian Roddy Underscore. We
welcome to buys. This past week it started with a
thriller in Los Angeles, and Week five ended with a
thriller in Jacksonville with the Jaguars getting a win against
(00:54):
the Kansas City Chiefs. And while it ends the week,
we might as well begin there because I look at
the Jaguars and say, Wow, what a fun game. And
I look at the Chiefs Mike and say, oh, my goodness.
Is Patrick mahomes their best running option that they've gotten
Fantasy this season. What a Monday nighter we had.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Well, we thought we'd gotten away from it. I know,
it was the Ravens a week ago. So I was like,
all right, we don't need him to run a bunch
for four carries five yards. No, we're back to the
same equation six for sixty and a score including the
long of sixteen, and so it becomes the all right,
what do we have here? At least in short quarters
you had some more of Kareem Hunt. He averaged seven yards.
(01:33):
Carrie bested, of course, bolstered by that thirty three yard run,
so kind of mutates that a little bit, but still
wondering long term, you know, some health. Once Rashi Rice
comes back, you know what the offense does look like then.
But for now, yeah, he's their best runner. Plenty of
the guys available for trade, I would think out there
(01:54):
in the world, not just in fantasyland. On the other side,
you had the Trevor Lawrence experience. I certainly sat through
it as it was sitting with Jason Smith, and it's like, well,
this is the win. He finally is like, well, yeah, man,
the first four weeks they're three and one despite his numbers,
and here he does it with his legs, his arm,
and overcame that six points that folks if they played him,
(02:18):
were cursing when it.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Got knocked out by Bolton.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
So just a game that had a little bit of
everything when it's all said and done, including the landing
zone rule coming into effect again.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I know you're going to have your report cards it
noted you had Mahomes number one as your quarterback for
this week, over three hundred yards, had the rushing yards
and the rushing touchdown in the game. I actually think
it's going to be more of what you see from
the Chiefs. The defense. I don't know if it's the
(02:49):
defense of old I don't think that Jacksonville was this
overwhelming offensive juggernaut. I don't know if Kansas City is
as good defensively as they were the last couple of years.
And then even if you get some resemblance of a
running game, you are getting Rashi Rice back. So I'm
(03:09):
looking at Patrick Mahomes as a much better option than
I thought at the beginning of the season, where I
think that this kind of play, whether the rushing yards
are there or not, I still think they're going to
have to put up points because the defense may not
be putting up as much of the bargain as they
have the previous here. I like Patrick Mahomes just moving
forward because of the addition of Rice and the lack
(03:30):
of what they got on defense.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Right now, that's it, right, You're gonna have to win shootout.
It's going to be very much like the plaudits and
excitement that we have when Dak Prescott takes the field
with the Cowboys, Like, hey, he's going to have to
keep winging it to make things happen based on that defense.
So certainly we'll just watch how the target distribution. That'll
get to become a tricky thing. You had Thornton with
(03:54):
five targets, three catches and ninety and then three guys
at eight to nine between Kelsey, Brown and Worthy with
varied success there. But yeah, the run game is inconsequential
if you're gonna give up thirty a game. I thought
it was telling that on that final Trevor Lawrence, you know,
double fall to the ground scramble, that Chris Jones made
(04:18):
no effort to get down the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Just watched the play.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
He took like three steps in that direction and just
watched him eventually stumble into the end zone without at
least even giving it a cursory effort to go make
a play.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, it's disheartening if you're a Chiefs fan, But if
you're a fantasy football player, there just may be a
few nuggets of gold with the Chiefs the next four weeks, Lions, Raiders, Commanders,
and Bills.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
Yeah, that fifty and a half already established for that
over and under. Yeah, that's Sunday night.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
That's a good stretch. I mean, I mean, really it
is for all intentsive purposes for the Kansas City offense
and Mahomes Jacksonville wise, we saw Travis Hunter get dinged
up yet made probably the best play of his young
career in that contest, and then the Brian Thomas situation
just continues to have people scratch of their heads.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Yeah, at least they connected on that one deep ball
down the sideline right pointed that out as it happened, going, Hey,
he almost dropped it because he didn't think it was
going to get to him, right, And I think the
defender did get a finger on it to maybe change
the rotation a bit, but it was a nice big
long play, four catches eighty yards. I mean it's not
(05:30):
world beating and certainly not the number one wide receiver
numbers that you thought. But you'll take the twelve and exhale,
hopefully to the tune of a w. But that's the
thing for Jacksonville overall. Like Thomas maybe a world class guy,
you don't have a number two you're afraid of, right,
and Hunter made that big play across the middle, gave
(05:53):
his body up and certainly paid the price for it.
But you look at it from that roster, I mean,
who scares you for Truvor? And is Trevor Lawrence to
that point? I mean he's completing fifty nine percent of
his passes. Look, he was on the cold scores. I'll
wear the l because I would not have anticipated the
fifty four and two touchdown scrambles, wouldn't have had another earlier.
(06:15):
Obviously changes the game and whatever if that actually had
gone through. But to the point of him passing them
all down the field, I don't trust his accuracy nor
his targets.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
When it's all said and done.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, the Travis Hunter deal. Like honestly, guys, is I
was doing a draft for half point PPR individual defensive players,
so funky sort of rules where you you know, you
can keep three guys. If you don't keep three guys,
they have a separate draft before you start the real draft.
(06:48):
The point being is I was ready to take Travis
Hunter as one of the top four guys just because
to be able to play him at an individual defensive position.
I felt that was making hey and tonight with his
ten point two six points that I got in the
league on how the scoring was, and for that to
(07:08):
be the high so far. Otherwise it's just been around
five or six. Been extremely disappointing in both facets if
you had Travis Hunter as a you know, two way
player and just even as his draft stock. It's funny.
I saw a tweet somebody said, boy, wouldn't it be
nice to have a Mecca ABUCA and not have to
(07:30):
trade up to get Travis Hunter like they've had. So
I just wonder if there's just if there's ever going
to be a time where we're going to see Travis
Hunter flourish. I mean, there were a couple of bright
spots tonight, but I just really wonder in the long
term fantasy value of Travis Hunter, and just even outside
of the value of what the actual plan is because
(07:52):
to the first five weeks of the season just has
not come to fruition.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Just seems at some point, and he had the big
forty four yarders tonight.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
That's great.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
But on the grand scale, as we pull it back,
as much as I like the idea of two way
players looking, we're enamored by what Shoho Todi does every
time he takes the mound. He struggled a bit at
the plate in the series against Philly, but had a
big hit that gave him an insurance run in Game two,
and we marvel at that, and we want to see
it on the football field, right, throwing back to I
(08:21):
don't know, Dan, You know, growing up, I played both
both sides of the ball, and I think a lot
of folks still do as they come up. But at
some point that goes away, right, At some point you're
forced to choose. And for Jacksonville, I think it would
be easier to say, hey, you know what, go be
great at one thing, and then once you're great, we
can sprinkle you back in on a handful of plays
(08:44):
and sequencing and formations later on, I e go, become
a wide receiver if that's what you want to do,
and be great at that to help Trevor Lawrence out
and then eventually we'll figure out the other side.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I would think. And by the way, my high school
and he had thirty five to forty guys on our team,
so we were kind of you were you kind of
had to you had to play both ways. Yeah, it
was a long long time ago. I just remember our
calisthenics lines were a lot took up a lot less
of the field than the other schools that we ended
(09:18):
up playing. But the uh, yeah, the point of of
Travis Hunter is I actually thought that the defense would
be the easy part for him to slide in, be
the corner, use your natural talents there, and the wide
receiver portion was the bonus and the reason why he
(09:39):
was then pushed up to number two. Now if it's
the reverse, I just don't know. I mean, like I
that's like, you know, the they're they weren't breaking in
Patrick's or Tan you know, you know, right with the
with the Denver Broncos. And it's maybe difficult to compare
him to the best corner in the league right now,
(10:00):
but when you're taken second. Overall, I think that they
wanted to do it for a splash, for marketing purposes,
to have the two a player truly Jacksonville. I think
we may have even talked about this on the pod.
I'm having a little bit of deja vu, but you
think back to like, they're great, great players, and I
don't know if they were great great players, right, and
(10:22):
so now you need this opportunity to make a splash.
You have this opportunity, so you trade up, You do
the deal with Cleveland, you give up a first round
next year, and now you're not even getting production on
either side of the ball that you would have hoped.
It's just a little disappointing. Again, only five weeks into
the season. But I just thought it would have started
out the other way, where he's starting on defense and
(10:43):
getting broken into the offense.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
And that's not the case, did you guys see on
the Manning cast Eli Manning, he shared a little tidbit
that Liam Cohen had shared with him, and he said
that at Colorado, Travis Hunter actually only practiced with the defense,
he never practiced with the offense, so he was completely
winging it out there when he was a receiver. I
don't know if that gives you anymore well, I mean,
(11:05):
based on.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
The way that that offense ran though, that makes sense, right,
because there was a lot of improvisation off of bad
offensive line player should do or just extending things and
him freelancing.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Right, just keep working. Eventually you're going to get open.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Sure, but if you're not honing your craft at the
wide receiver position and sharpening your routes and all that,
there's still like this huge, huge learning curve, learning curve
in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I would also say it actually makes me feel worse
because if that's if that's what he was doing, Like,
if then how are you not a starting corner in
the National Football League? Right? Like, if that's if that's
the reason that you were so great at the two
way player And it's nothing personal against Travis Hunter, I
(11:54):
just to like, how are you not your starting cornerback
at this at this point like that was supposed to be.
If that's what was happening at Colorado where he was
solely practicing on defense, then that should have translated to
the National Football League, where I thought we all thought
that he was a magnificent cornerback. Right, and now for
that not to catch up to where he is and
(12:14):
he's just doing the wide receiver stuff and learning that, well,
then why was he taken? Why was he taken second? Overall?
You understand what I'm saying?
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Oh? Absolutely, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Or we go back and we can just start bashing
the strength of schedule from the Colorado Buffaloes.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
No, but your point is well taken, Dan, absolutely, like
if that's legitimately the point, right is that you got
the learning curve on that side, but it should have
been an easier transition yeah, into the NFL.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Otherwise, just stay where you are on the draft, take
Ted McMillan and be good with it. Right, you wouldn't
have like Mecha Buca, for as great as he was,
was not considered to be a top ten pick, and
he's been magnificent obviously for the Buccaneers. Big boo.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Did you guys hear Gronks say that yesterday?
Speaker 2 (13:06):
I saw, I didn't hear it until now I saw.
I saw somebody with they put up like the jersey,
they put the Tampa throwback, and they said like these
will be flying off the shelves, and so I I
assumed because I saw Gronk's picture to it. Can I
hear big boo?
Speaker 3 (13:27):
That's pretty good?
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Boo tried, Yeah, he did, he did.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Could have you said this guy had gone full Gruden?
Never actually name a player.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah, at least with with with tetoroa. We just shortened
the tet And it's a lot easier that way. Would
you say Ted McMillan and call it.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Good, No, that's it. We got to cheat that way.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
I kind of prefer, Oh, he just call him good
because he's magnificent. Right, Yeah, he truly has. All Right,
that's a little thing to get us going here on.
I want your flax. So take a look at the
other thirteen games that don the schedule. In Week five,
(14:09):
again we had four teams on buy, but it was
an interesting week. Mike Harmon, myself, Dan Beyer, and Ian Roddy,
our executive producer, will highlight what we love from week five,
what stood out for us both good and banded the
fantasy world that's next year and I want your flax,
all right? What else stood out in week five of
(14:30):
the National Football League season? Mike Carmeron, and we will
start with you from the slate of games that we
had Sunday, maybe even going back to Thursday, what'd you
see from this past week?
Speaker 4 (14:37):
Well, you always just have to celebrate the greatness of
Gronk and what he gave us, and that that was
the number one wide receiver of the week. And who
would have thought that Baker Mayfield versus Sam Darnold might
give us the best of the two seventy two that
we're gonna watch this season?
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Right, my goodness, I'll tell you as a Seahawks fan,
and you guys know my love of the Buckle Bruce uniforms,
but that Seahawks uniform. I have an alarm clock that
doesn't work anymore, but it's in my current bedroom. I'm
sure my wife loves it. Love that old helmet, got
so many things with that old helmet. It was so
magnificent to just see what they put on the field
(15:13):
design wise and celebrating the fiftieth seasons. And then to
have them lose. I think I said this to Ian
on Sunday, to have them lose the Seahawks as a
Seahawks fan in those uniforms against Bucco Bruce, now I'm
going to have to see that over and over and
I'm just gonna want to watch it because it looks
so good. But my goodness, if those quarterbacks were magnificent
through fifty nine minutes, then the one bad throw by
(15:34):
Darnold at the end cost the Seahawks the game.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
And then you're pointing back and forth in the Spider
Man meme of thinking of them once upon a time
in Carolina Panthers jerseys together, Yeah, and neither of them
were good enough to be a solution. I want to
go back to Sunday morning, bright and early, like Cleveland, Minnesota.
It gave us the Judkins had his one hundred and
ten yards on the ground, Joku makes his presence known,
(16:00):
and Dylan Gabriel, while he didn't succeed very much on
passes beyond ten yards, I think he was one for
nine or two for nine for the game. We're all
acquitted himself pretty well, moved around pretty well, got the
ball out, found guys in space. One hundred and ninety
yards and two touchdowns. Not world beating, but something you
can build off of and say, all right, there's some
(16:20):
good habits here in Minnesota. You're going up against Brian Floores' defense,
as we talked about last week on the pod, guys
that if you can put that up against that defense
in your first start, I'm feeling like we got a
pretty good high floor that we've established for him. Now
what the end game is, is he gonna be winging
(16:41):
it around for three hundred plus each week. No, because
you're hopeful that Judkins gives him enough balance and that
defense playing good football. Heartbreaking loss if you were on
the Browns, because they were plus three and a half,
so to give up that touchdown late to Addison what
was a crusher, but an entertaining game to get things started.
Houston continuing the bludgeoning of of the Ravens. But for
(17:06):
one day, and maybe only one day, c J. Stroud
looked every bit the guy we remember, if only for
a day. Again, we take it with a grain of salt,
but you know, we can at least put him back
in the good graces and contemplation of what we're watching
the Arizona game.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
We can do.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
That's a therapy session for people another time. Sure, with
all the nonsens that went down there.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Well I'll leave it just just even the backup to
the to the Texans point of what went down. I
was assuming that we would see a lot more woody marks. Yeah,
I did too, you know, from from what we from
what we saw the week prior in his emergence, and
so Nick Chubb I think was on the bench of many.
He was on my bench after playing him the last
(17:54):
couple of weeks and kind of being disappointed with that.
That was the only frustrating thing from from that. And
you mentioned, you know, just talking about the Seahawks and Buccaneers,
there's something with the Seahawks now at the goal on
situations where Zach Charboney has now kind of been the
TD vulture and they haven't. He was Kenneth Walker enough
to make you feel really satisfied with what he's done
(18:16):
at the goal line. So as you talk about the positives,
those are a couple of the head scratches that I
thought this week of while I expected a little bit
more from what he marks, and in seeing how the
Seahawks have been deploying Kenneth Walker, he's gotten them down
in those situations and then Zach Charbone has come in
and stolen and stolen touched on from them. On Sunday.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
Yeah, when we look at red zone opportunities, certainly Walker
still has has a few to this point, but seeing
Charboney is concerning. He's not far behind in terms of
the the I think the rushing attempts are actually on par.
I think they both have thirteen at this point. But
certainly that that workload split is is not enticing for bohere.
(19:02):
You would have had to have drafted Walker.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Yeah, absolutely disappointing. And he's not going to be as
or hasn't been as active in the passing game at
different offense this year. At least this past week, you
only had the I believe one target to him and
didn't do anything with it. So interesting in that matchup.
I'm gonna spin it from the Seahawks Buccaneers game because A. J.
(19:27):
Barner was another factor where he ends up catching two touchdowns.
Tight End ha has been a black hole for me
and a lot of my teams this year. And boy
am I kicking myself by not picking up Darren Waller.
I mean for the past two weeks and now with
Tyreek Hill being out. I know the Dolphins lost and
I have no idea what's going to happen, But Darren
Waller's looking like the old Darren Waller.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Three udowns in two games.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Yeah, I mean, like, my goodness, if they're going to
be down, if they're going to be you know, allowing points.
I mean, if they're doing it to the Jets, they're
doing it to the Panthers. If not that they were
losing the Jets, but that if you're gonna need to
throw the football like they have. Man, the re emergence
of Darren Waller in week five after the Week four performance,
(20:11):
you know, kudos to the to Darren Waller because at
one point I thought he was going to retire again.
I thought it was going to be that.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
Was no report right that he was walking away. Instead
he stays back to back weeks, big performances, eight catches
on nine targets. Hey, yeah, it's one of the more
baffling developments in.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
What through five weeks.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
I think we can agree and we maybe it's recency bias,
but I gotta say this is the strangest five weeks.
And Week five might have been the oddest week of
football that I've seen, top to.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Bottom, just just with that Cardinals Titans game.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Well that but I mean that one was huge. The
ending to this Chiefs Jaguars game, right.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
I don't know about you I'm as soon as the
Chiefs scored, I'm like, all right, this game's over all right,
there's no way Jaguar's historically terrible two minute drill and
then Bucker kicks the ball out of bounce. It's like,
all right, we've got new life. And then you see
him march right down the field. But you know, just
the no show again from Vegas. We're hitting that point
(21:20):
where we're just realizing who everybody is, I guess more
than anything. But go back to the strange occurrences and
ending to the San Francisco and the Rams, and we
had some chaos in that one. Talk about the last
second comeback win with the Vikings, the fact that Baltimore,
like the Brothers Harball, must be paying some evil penance
(21:43):
to the football gods because nobody's available to play with
play for them.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
At this point. So you've got that going on Philly.
They all want to fight each.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Other, at least they want to fight someone because this
running game has just been Yeah, I don't get it.
I don't know, I don't. I mean, if you're Nick Sirianni,
I know you've won a Super Bowl and maybe you've
let Kellen Moore and maybe you'll let Shane steich In
(22:14):
have too much too much rope, But I mean this
is you know, this is kind of your deal, buddy,
like you kind of need to take the reins that
if Saquon Barkley's only getting six carries and they're not
running the football, something's something's going wrong.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Yeah, I get it. The Denver Broncos defense is good.
We all stipulate to that. But when he's got you know,
twice as many yards as a receiver, Barkley does give
you the touchdown. So he saved your fantasy day there.
But how do you only get six carries and your
offensive line is not as good as it was? We again,
we all, we all understand that. But like the chicken
(22:52):
egg conversation, right with the receiver's point and fingers, the
run game can't get started. You're it's the weirdest four
and one start to a campaign.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
I felt they were gonna lose. It's why I felt
the Bills were going to lose on Sunday. I may
have said the Bills are gonna win at the end
of our Sunday show, but that was maybe because I
was up against the clock. The point that I've made
about these two teams with Buffalo and Philadelphia is they
just didn't feel like five and oh teams. I didn't
feel like they were good enough to be five and oh.
(23:26):
So at some point something was going to happen. And
because they were four and oh leading up to it,
maybe they're four and one good, maybe they're three and
two good, but I know that they weren't five and
oh good. And it came to bite them in the
butt against the Broncos in Phillies case and then the
Bills case against New England on Sunday night.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Well, the identity with the Bills right just shifting towards
being a running team. Will you go up against the
second best run defense in the league. You finished with
one hundred and eighteen rushing yards, but it didn't feel
that right. At no point did you control James Cook
Fifteen carries forty nine yards and you don't have a
true number one there. As much as I love Josh Allen,
(24:04):
he's that superman capes. They better just make sure it's
available in the hall way, sure, because he's going to
have to put it on a bunch over the course
of the year. Dalton Kinkate at one hundred and eight yards.
Your next leading receiver, shagarad forty five.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Yeah, and Stephan Diggs. We had talked about Stefan Dicks,
we did you know recently? You know he emerging for
New England. I don't know if that was just a
revenge Buffalo game or if there's going to be more
to come. But I'll tell you what, if they really
could be four and one, they shouldn't have beat the
Raiders in Week one for all they played in the
second half. But when you turn them all over five
(24:39):
times against Pittsburgh, you're just not gonna win any football games.
But yeah, New England may have something curious to see
on how their backfield shapes out. Now. You lose Antonio
Gibson for the season, so you lose a little depth.
Romandra Stevenson, even though you have the two touchdowns, still
can't hold onto the football and at some point you're
going to need Traveon Henderson to to step up and
(25:01):
have some sort of role. So I'm curious to see
on how that transpires with New England since we got
to look, but it was pretty balanced at least in
Week five for them.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
You got it.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Ian what stood up for you? In Week five.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
You just mentioned it there with Ramandre Stevenson, but one
thing I mentioned was the Patriots are being really stubborn
about using him because even after fumbling twice, they still
gave him the goal line carries instead of Traveon Henderson,
which I feel like anyone who drafted Henderson in fantasy,
you know, with the price that you had to spend
to get him, they're probably pretty frustrated at that.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
I had to come get him a little fat, yeah,
because you the whispers.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
And everything exactly.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
And I just don't know what to think of that
because if if Ramandre Stevenson fumbles twice and they're still
giving him the goal line carries, I just don't know
what he has to do to lose touches here. So
that's kind of concerning. But not saying we're out on
Henderson or anything like that. I still think he's gonna
eventually take over duties. It's just you know, taken longer
than we thought.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Yeah, do you guys get the sense that there's not
some it's not rookie hazing, but that there is yeah, yes, yes,
And I don't think that they have other options in
the backfield, Like even with Antonio Gibson's injury. He doesn't
run like Romondre Stevenson. Trevion Henderson doesn't run like Romondre Stevenson.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
Yeah, what a unique skill set for sure.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah. Like, I mean, he's just very physical, and they
just they have no one else, so it's almost by default.
But they'd rather just stick with Stevenson at this point
before maybe giving Henderson too much of the action. But
Henderson's not going to run the way that Stevenson does anyway,
so maybe they're just like, we're going to have to
live with it, and if we're going to try to
get physical, maybe Drake May's going to take some of
(26:41):
these runs. As crazy as that sounds, I.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
Always wonder with rookie running backs how much their ability
or lack thereof in terms of past protection limits how
much they're on even if they're the much better runner.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
That's his call. I just don't.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
Yes, that's what he was supposed to be known for,
and I think he has had some pretty good blocks,
right unless I'm mistaken, But you know what.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
You know, there there there was an instance and I
can't remember if it was in week one, and I
can't remember if it was in a preseason game, which
you're absolutely right he was going to be the three
down back because he can do it all. He can
block on third down if you need him to. But
there was a point I can really see the play
in my head and I feel like it was in
the in the daytime, and it may have come Week
(27:23):
one against the Raiders, but there was a point where
like Drake may got crushed because of that maybe maybe
that yeah, that could that could linger on. But now
you kind of now we're now we're entering week six,
and if you're a playoff team like New England is
is right now showing that they are, you're gonna have
to kind of start developing to be the team that
you want to be for the final third of the season.
(27:45):
So we'll see if that changes anything, uh in the
final game. I don't know if it's worth talking about
the Colts and Raiders, but since we were talking about
rookie running backs, Ashton Genty ends up being the leading
rusher for the team and then tied for the team
leading cat. I think that's good for fantasy purposes, not
good if you're only scoring six points on offense for
(28:05):
the Raiders while the Colts just keep on humming along.
Jonathan Taylor three touchdowns and Tyler Warren's getting into the
end zone again, Daniel Jones a couple of touchdown passes,
and Colts just continue to be the Colts of twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
Thank Tyler Warren right now has the he leads all
tight ends and receiving yards.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
So you got that going for you.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
Daniel Jones making some hay even saw a little Anthony
Richards inciting.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
How about that? All right?
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Getting in there and Tyler Warren throwing passes. We're already
getting cute in week five? Are the Colts feeling themselves
a little bit? But yeah, Jonathan Taylor reminding folks that
when all is said and done, if he's upright and
not hampered by an injury, even if you have some
questions about that offensive line, he can get after it.
(28:53):
Three scores on the day, and he gave you three
catches for twenty yards. Nice little bonus five points for
you there, congenty thing. Yeah, you were saved by the
receiving totals. Is the checkdowns mount But Gino Smith, how
much longer can you can you go with this? With
the amount of turnos? And I know brock Brock Bowers
(29:13):
didn't play, so you take it with a grain assault.
But it goes back to the same thing. You've got
him and a bunch of guys who were twos and
threes and whatever. But the turnover rate is just so awful.
They've killed themselves on so many decent drives with the
just inexplicable toss shades of old Gino.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
They've yeah, they've they've slid for sure. And if it
wasn't for Jake Browning always throwing it to the other team,
maybe we'd be talking more about the awfulness of Gino Smith, which,
by the way, we don't even know if Jake Browning
is going to start on Sunday against the Green Bay
Packers the Bengals a whole other thing. We'll just sum
it up and be like, hey, at least Jamar Chase
got his.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
So that's it.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Hey, Jake Browning ended up as one of your point
leaders for the week. So if you decided you were
going on down that highway, what was he he was?
He was eleventh with twenty two points, not bad.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Any touchdowns, picked off three times, but but may give
way to the Brett Rippon experience in week six, Oh joy,
I don't think that they will. I think this is
different than Flacco and Cleveland, but I do think it's
a way to I mean, if you're turning it over
to Brett Rippon at this point, you have no shot.
And the last time I remember Brett Rippan playing was
(30:34):
he replaced Matthew Stafford for the Rams in a game
against the Packers, and I think the Packers shut him
out that game. So if Green Bay were to get
Brett Rippon in week six, my goodness, that's a nice
gift coming out of.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
The by get your ten bonus points for fantasy.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
Yeah right, it literally it has to in my mind,
it has to either be Browning or like you trade
for Kirk Cousins or someone, because Rippin is just not
anywhere near that that caliber.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
I've thought, I have no idea how you could do
it with Cousins contract. I I don't know. I I
that stuff is you know, over my.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Head and be able to do it, I don't know either.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
But just the fact that they're structured so like they
have Trey Hendrickson on a one year deal now, it's
just so like this year is the year and Burrow
goes down and there's nothing you can do about it.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
It's it's so brutal.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
In a division that still seems up for grabs because
I don't think anybody's believing in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Good point, right, so, and Baltimore's got nobody left, yeah,
and Cleveland's Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Yeah. So it's an interesting, interesting dynamic to see where
Cincinnati is going to go. And again Burrow not expected
to be back until mid December. We're going to be
back in just a second with our report cards for
week five. See some pretty good grades on the Ledger.
Plus Mike's got some waiver wire pickups because yeah, there
were some injuries, some big ones in week five. That's
(31:58):
all coming up next right here, I want your flex.
We started off the podcast by telling you Mike Harmon
at Patrick Mahomes as is QB one. This week it
was a pretty good week for Mahomes Mike overall on
the report card, how'd you do in week four?
Speaker 4 (32:14):
We had some good, some bad, some ugly. The Mahomes
was a win justin fields finished seventh. Yeah, I'm sorry,
and the game wasn't what you wanted to be, but
for fantasy purpose, I'm numb.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
No, Well, That's that's a good way to be for
my fandom. I got to just relax this week with
the Bears on them bye. So but I missed the
postgame shows when it's not like that's the best hour
of listening for me. No matter if you win, they
still can't do it. Okay, Well, let's see Taylor as
the running back. We had him third, he finished second,
(32:49):
Gibbs finished as a back end RB one, and then
we got a little deeper so Barkley. Unfortunately Hampton's now hurt,
so that put a wrinkle in all of that. I'm
on Ross Saint Brown all gives us our our wins.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
J s n was third, and then Amika Abuka to
get his name right, Uh, we had him in that
Magnificent seven. So that's kind of like Adele does em
when John trab did the Dina Menzel all the way
back in the day.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
To uh tag o VOLLEYA. Who is that trump?
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Okay, that's I was going to guess that, but like,
why is he talking?
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Well, you know.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
That's fantastic all right from the hot plays. Uh, let's
see Daniels in his return. Uh did us fairly well?
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Daniel Jones Uh as we know, Uh not locked and loaded.
Uh let's see, uh cold sores. A couple of big misses.
When we talk about Trevor Lawrence and and Baker Mayfield
against Seattle banged up defense, no Bucky irving on, Well
it went out, So.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Baker Mayfield makes me look stupid.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
We'll take the easy victory with Derrick Henry yay genty
finished as an RB two, so we'll take a minor
victory there.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
But overall, you know some good.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Sure you know he also hit on Jayleen Waddle, had
one hundred and ten yards and touchdown and then lost
to the Panthers. Those one in your hot place for
the week.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Oh wait wait I had a ninja of de mercado.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Anybody want to finish the sentence as he was sprinted
to the end zone for me.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
My goodness, second week in a row. I can't believe.
I can't believe that it happened in week four and
then to happen again in week five. These guys just
you're just trying to look cool, that's all it is.
It's all it is, like, it's like it's nothing that
you just ran a seventy two yard touchdown. Well, it
(34:58):
is nothing because he only ran seventy one yards with
a football and.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
Then it started.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
The football gods did smite the Cardinals thereafter. I did
love the defender chasing him down though he realized it immediately. Yeah,
it was immediately called.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
For you, Yes it was. And and here's the funny
thing with that game is the Titans didn't even have
everything go right for them at that point. So like
you would think, like, if you're the Cardinals, you're about
to go up twenty one or twenty seven to six.
Extra point made, twenty eight to six, game is over.
But the Titans get the football, they missed the extra
(35:35):
point on the ensuing possession, so it's still like twenty
one to twelve. The Cardinals, for some reason not even
talking about how the Titans scored their touchdown to to
pull within two on the interception that was fumbled and
then recovered. They also ran the ball on third and seven,
and the Titans had one time out with two minutes left,
like why are you running the football? Like throw try
(35:57):
to get the first down and end the game, and
they didn't, and that allowed the Titans to come back
and all they needed was three and got their.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
Three at the end job Jonathan Gaana.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
Yeah, he got to apologize for more than your shove
of De Marcado.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Oh man, I don't want to say that I'm glad
that he did it, but there was a Cardinals player
that was like trying to console them, And I said
on Monday on the network, I'm like, I get why
you would console Romandre Stevenson because you need him that game.
You need him for that type of runner. And his
fumbles weren't showboating. He just can't hold on to the
football right now. Something's not something is not going right
(36:33):
without his hands or his head. De Marcado was just
trying to look cool, like there's no consoling, like he
just cost your team and trying to show boat. That's absurd.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
You guys, notice how it feels like it just they
always end up dropping it right before the goal line.
I cannot recall a single time where there was like
just a close call, he almost did it, but he
actually ended up scoring. Like it always ends up being
that they dropped it right before the goal line.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
It yeah, there, He's never like a if you like,
well he did have it, it was closed, but he did.
Speaker 5 (37:04):
The review always shows that they did in fact, drop it.
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
I don't know if it's their like peripheral vision in
seeing where they think that they're they're past it, or
what the deal is, but I just I don't get
why you would do it. I said, if you want
a showboat, come up with a dancer celebration that includes
the football. That way, you won't let it go when
you're about to do your celebration. That I think is
(37:29):
the best fit of all. If you're a team, just
pretend like you're doing the baseball thing and throwing a
pitch or or doing something, but you know, do it
that way, then you at least won't be fumbling at
the one yard line.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
We're doing the bowling pin thing. You have to carry
the ball. It becomes our standard.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
I know. I think that the NFL frowned as the
ball as a prop at one point, but man, if
they who cares if they think it's over the top.
Let's just at least you're not turning get over and
taking points off the board.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Jason Stewart, executive producer of The Doug Gottlieb Show, lost
his game by five point six points and they had
de Marcado in so yeah, there you go.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
There you go. He'll write a tersely worded letter.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
Well, there's a reason that Ian Roddy is hot dogging
because his streaming defenses were pretty good in Week five.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
Yeah, so we can start with we'll go worst to best.
The worst of the three was the Cardinals got you
six fantasy points. They allowed twenty two points to the Titans.
They did get an interception of cam Ward, they were
covered a fumble and sacked him twice, so still salvage
the day for the defense. Next was the Indianapolis Colts,
got you sixteen fantasy points. They only allowed six points
(38:48):
on the day, got two interceptions and four sacks, so
that was really big.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
We're just going to continue.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
Chasing that Gino Smith defense stream assuming it's still a
streamable defense.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Well, I guess we'll have to wait till Friday to
find out if the Titans are going to be the
pick because they've got Genosmith and those Raiders next. By
the way, Titans were the third best defense of the week.
Ian had one and two, Saints were number one. Colts
were number two in points this week for team defenses.
So well done, Ian Roddy is he Ian mentioned I
had the Saints as my survivor pick. I thought there
(39:20):
would be a lot more people picking the Saints in survivor,
not the case. Cardinals were far and away the favorite,
so a lot of people lost on what happened with Arizona,
and one pool of mine, twenty five percent of the
pool picked Arizona.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
Yeah, I see, look at you with your Saints surviving
there was there and not having to sweat it like aw,
these are.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Right right, I'll take it. I did chicken out in
the one that I care about more because I lost
the Rams. I had two entries alive in that one
and I had one in another one. I had lost
the Rams, so I was down to one and one
and the one that I cared more about, I had
the Saints, but I didn't don't want to lose out,
so I did switch to the to the Colts for
that one and pick the Saints in the other. But
(40:05):
the Saints were the play this week. I felt if
you wanted to, if you want to, at least win
because there just weren't upsets happening along the way, and
this week Cardinals losing in their fashion the Rams the
way they did wiped out about forty five percent of
both pools that I was in. Pretty crazy, and then
(40:25):
you even had you know, Bills and Chiefs backers as
well that lost on the primetime games. Colts and Lions
were safe picks. But I was surprised, guys at how
few people actually picked the Saints. There was three of
us in one pool and then twelve in another. But yeah,
I just I felt like at home Jackson Dart's second start,
(40:48):
So that one worked out points of palooza for me.
Not a bad pick. Saints, excuse me, Seahawks and Buccaneers
seventy three points. That was the overall. Couldn't take Liones
Bengals because that was a high point. That was a
sixty one point affair. But our Cowboys and Jets tied
for third fifty nine points in that contest, and Bruce
Pickens got his Javante Williams a great game. I played
(41:11):
justin fields in the league. He came through for me.
So yeah, there were points of palooza. May not have
been the top dog, but very satisfied with the Jets
and Cowboys in Week five.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
They gave us a thrill, no question about it. That's
a pretty good report. Card Fellas nicely done.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Yeah yeah, hopefully there's more to come in week six.
But before we even get to week six, you're gonna
have to hunt for the waiver wire. Yes, Amarion Hampton's
on injured reserve for the Chargers. Names to watch there
so much more, Mike, who are we looking for on
the waiver wire?
Speaker 1 (41:39):
This?
Speaker 4 (41:40):
Well? Our guy Bill Krossky Merritt after a big game
against the charge is still available about a quarter of leagues,
so it's worth taking a look. We mentioned Darren Waller
you did earlier, Dan, He's still available in about a
third of leagues overall. Kind of looking at some of
the Yahoo versus NFL dot Com stats. Ric O'Donnell. He
(42:02):
gets his return bout his grudge match against the Cowboys
after a two hundred yard effort. Who saw that one coming,
saw the opportunity, It's like, all right, he's gonna get carried.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
He's like, no, wait, CJ.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
Stroud available in about half of league's go back to
the running game. I don't know if Camara is gonna
get dealt, but you're seeing more of Miller in a
workload split there, so perhaps worth a look.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
See there.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
Brashard Smith maybe he becomes the X factor in terms
of running and receiving for the Chiefs because we know
what those other guys are at this point, So perhaps
a bit of love down the road. Matthew Stafford's still
available in well over thirty five percent of leagues, which
makes no sense at this point. You look at what
(42:49):
they've been in. Huge spot for them coming up here
in this next week, no question about it. Still smarting
from that loss. So we'll see how they respond on
Romeo and Dobbs. Dubbs, Dobbs Dobbs. We're going for back
to Dobbs this week. Six catches, eight targets, fifty eight
(43:10):
and three the last time we saw him, finally healthy.
They're coming off a bye and they've got Cincinnati's defense
sitting out there waiting for him. So potentially an opportunity
you talked about aj Barner. Go take a look Mason
Taylor of the Jets back to back weeks where we're
looking at fourteen catches on nineteen targets, So opportunities galore
for him, no question about it. Go back to the
(43:32):
Chargers for a second. Next man up, probably Vidal.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
We'll see he got the carries at the end with Norhampton.
Speaker 4 (43:45):
Yeah, and de Mercado lost his opportunity to be the guy.
So Michael Carter here is your ex jet has his opportunity.
Had a high heart touch count in Week five. I
would expect that to continue up against the Colts coming
up here, So opportunity there. And again an old name
that we put on oftentimes, but he's out there.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
In a lot of leagues.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
Rashid Shahed of the Saints. They go up against the Patriots.
So again not looking at it necessarily at a one turn,
one week push for it. When we talk about waivers,
we're looking at the long haul and a growing share
count and finally just a stash play. Go back to
Tennessee and Tajay Spears got activated. Look, we're looking for
(44:33):
running back depth because they're falling like flies too.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Mm hmm. Yeah, absolutely. Tony Pollard's been okay for them,
But there probably is a role for Tennessee, especially if
you want to expand the arsenal of cam Ward as
the season goes on, because truly that should be the
only goal for Tennessee. And again the Yes Tennessee Titans
on their way to Las Vegas to face the Raiders
(44:58):
and I don't know he's talking about survivor do you
roll the dice, you know, like picking against the Titans
this week, because if how, we'll find out in the
next episode later on in the week and decide that.
But there there should be some tempting spreads. As you said,
the what do you say Chiefs lines was already over fifty.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
Yeah for the over under, Yeah fifty on that one.
I'll let me pull that back up as we.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
By the way Vikings and Texans on by in weeks.
Speaker 4 (45:27):
Yes, yes, we have another early game on Sunday from
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That's the Broncos and the Jets. And
then we got the dual Monday night affair Buffalo Atlanta, Chicago, Washington.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
And again funky schedule late window in week six, just
three games and the games guys are Titans, Raiders, Bengals Packers,
which would have been great if Joe Burrow was there,
but he's not. And Niners Buccaneers battle of four and
one teams. So that's what we've got in the late window.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
Yeah, we got some smallish over unders right Cleveland Pittsburgh
thirty eight and a half. The Denver Jets game is
forty three, forty three and a half spending on where
you're looking Tennessee in Vegas. Anybody lining up to watch
that one? No, forty one and a half unless you're
an Ashton genty or hoping that brock Bauers is back.
Speaker 3 (46:22):
Yeah, not a whole lot of thrillers there.
Speaker 4 (46:25):
But then we've got a couple of like both Monday
games are creeping towards fifty.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
So, and not to speak too soon, but I did
see a report that said Terry McLaurin back with the
Commanders with the longer week because they have your bears
mic on that Monday night in the second game of
that double header, but that the Commanders were hoping that
McLaurin could get back on the field in week six.
Speaker 4 (46:49):
Washington four and a half point favorites fifty and a half.
You're over under.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
There, you go some juicy points there, all right. That's
going to do it for this episode of I Want
Your Flex Big Things to Ian Roddy are executive producer,
not only for all the work he's done but also
giving us some great streaming defenses. Find him on ex
at Ian Roddy Underscore. You can always find Mike at swallendome,
even right up to kickoff, if you have a line
of questions, just try not to get him like right
(47:13):
before kickoff, like a couple of hours, maybe even day before.
I think would make Mike's life a little bit easier. Yeah, yeah,
just a little bit. You can find me at Dan
Bayer on Fox. We'll be back with our midweek episode
plus a little later on on the week you set
for week six and all the games that will happen then.
So for the guys, I'm Dan Bayer. Talk to you
next time here and I want your FLEs
