Speaker 1 (00:01):
Jonas Knocks.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
You thought you knew me. You didn't know a thing
about me.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
He's crazier than a else. Wrecked that guy, Jonas Knocks.
You heard me, Prin some darkness is lighting up your
speakers to establish an alibi for the day. From the
Tirack dot Com Fox Sports Radio Studios, here's Jonas Knox.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
YEP, Okay, I'll be part of this world.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
You know, we do have some good news. We've got
an idea something that I think is going to help
fix a problem that we've seen take place more recently
in the world of sports than you realize. And you
know it's for somebody that likes to do radical things
and like to make a new improvement to their sport,
to their league, etc. We'll explain what that is coming
up here in just a couple of moments from now,
(01:04):

(01:27):
An unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rac dot com
the way tire buying should be. So the Dallas Mavericks
stay alive, they win Game four, and they win Game
four in dominant fashion, an absolute ass whooping, a blowout,
(01:47):
a bludgeoning, whatever you want to call it. They beat
that ass of the Boston Celtics. And it doesn't mean anything.
And I'll tell you why, because this series is over
in game five. That's a wrap. Like you look at
last night and you go, man, cool story. You win
(02:08):
by close to forty you're dominant. But I would argue
that's a worst case scenario situation for the Dallas Mavericks.
If it was a buzzer beater to stay alive, then
we'd be talking because now you're the Celtics and you're
thinking to yourself, wait a second, We literally were on
the doorstep of clinching. We lose at the buzzer, we
lose a heartbreaker, and now we've got a regroup go
(02:31):
back home and try and do it again, and all
of a sudden they've got all the momentum and they
stay alive. That game last night like got to be
a waste of time. I stop watching. It's like, okay,
they're pulling their starters in the third eah, whatever, done,
this game's over. They waved the way and like everyone's
looking around for like, ooh, what does this mean? Is
(02:53):
there something they can take from this game into game?
Probably not, to be honest with you, probably not. There's
nothing you can take from it because it wasn't a
real game. It was a wipeout that meant everything to
one team and not that much to the other. And
one team conceded and just said, okay, that's fine. And
(03:13):
if you've tracked the Celtics all year long, the one
thing they always do is bounce back when they have
a letdown, or they always bounce back. Series is over
on Monday night. It's over. It's fine, done deal. But
I do have good news because I was thinking about this.
You look at a game like that and you go,
(03:33):
if you beat somebody that bad, but you're still down
in the series three to one, and the other games
that you've lost have been within ten points. Like I
saw somebody put out the cumulative score of the series
and say, well, the MAVs are actually leading them in
the entire series and they've won more quarters, and it's
(03:54):
like okay, Like I mean, if we really want to
go the cumulative route like that works in boxing, it
doesn't really work, you know, in the NBA. Like in boxing,
you may get wiped out a couple of rounds, but
if you've one majority of them and you didn't get
(04:14):
knocked down a bunch, the score is going to go
to your favor. But you watched that game last night
and you go, well, yeah, I mean it was pretty dominant,
but it still only counts as once. I was thinking
about this, if you're Adam Silver and you like to
do all this goofy kind of clown show, carnival, sideshow
sort of stuff like the n Season Tournament and all
the other crap that came along with it. If you're
(04:36):
trying to find ways to improve the game, if you're
trying to find ways to make the NBA better and
try and come up with some new idea. You wanted
to do the play in tournament, which I'll admit is fun.
You wanted to do the nd season tournament, which I'll
admit is a joke. Like you want to come up
with all these ideas and all these things to try
and impact the game and improve the game. Here's one
(04:59):
for you. How about this team beats another team in
the NBA Playoffs by twenty five or more, it counts
as two wins in the series. Let's play that game
because all of a sudden, everybody's got something to play
for now. You're not seeing the Dallas Mavericks go out
there and blow them out and realize, yeah, that was
cool and all, but we're still down three to one.
(05:22):
Now all of a sudden, that's a three to two series.
And you go back and they're saying, oh, I mean this,
and I get it. It changes the way that you
do the math, and maybe it turns into it. But like,
let's come up with something because this happens a lot
in the NBA playoffs to where teams will be losing
by twenty points or down eighteen to twenty and they
(05:43):
just kind of mail it in. It's eh, whatever. Like,
if you're trying to find a way to get people
to play for more and get these players to continue
to play when they're getting blown out, and you don't
want to see your starters pulled halfway through the third
quarter in an NBA Finals game, and you don't want
to see teams lose by and just concede and say whatever,
we'll see you Monday night. We'll clinch there. Then figure
(06:04):
out a way to make it worth more. Either that,
or like I've said before, you could shorten a series
and make these games matter more. The problem is the NBA.
This happens way too much. There are blowouts because teams realize, well,
it only counts as one. Well, if it only counts
as one, what does it matter? If it only counts
(06:26):
as one? Then why run up the score? Why? You know,
why try hard at all if you're losing. So, if
you're the NBA and you're trying to get innovative, figure
out a way to make these blowouts mean more than
just one win. Or we could just do what we're
doing now and realize, nice game, awesome, you gave your
(06:48):
fans one last treat, final home game, all that stuff,
and then you go back to Boston and probably get
wiped out there, and the series is over, and now
we're looking forward to the NBA Draft Jonas Knox here
Fox Sports, get me on Twitter at the Jonas Knox
at the Jonas Knox on Twitter. All right, this is
a bummer. Okay. Now, I was probably thinking about leading
(07:11):
with this. Then I thought, well, you know what kind
of sucks like. I don't know if we want to,
because this is something that I don't think is we
can argue about. And I'll just be brutally honest, and
this is probably an insult to myself and virtually everybody
else who does sports media. Let's just be truthful here.
(07:32):
Most of us are replaceable, myself included. Like it just
a bit to what it is like, you could take overall.
I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I
hate it. I hate it. And the person's gone and
you're pissed off, and then all of a sudden, like
a month later, you realize, eh, whatever, we're fine. Most
of us are replaceable. That's how I feel, all right now.
Maybe I'm being a little bit too demeaning to myself
(07:54):
and too disrespectful to myself, but that's how I feel.
That's how I look at this stuff. Barkley is not
He's in the rarefied air, and the rarefied class of irreplaceable,
and he announced in the midst of all the other
drama that's gone on with Turner and the NBA and
(08:15):
the NBA rights that are coming up and so on,
like next year, you know, TNT's got the NBA for
one final season, but they're trying to figure out a
way to come up with whatever it is. Charles Barkley
was on NBA TV last night and he announced this.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
I've been thinking, guys. I want to say this because
you guys in my family. I really love TNT, all
the people who work here NBA Television. You guys been
great to me for twenty four years, and I just
want to say thank you to my entire NBA family.
I love you guys. You know there's been a lot
(08:51):
of noise around on network the last few months, and
I just want to say I've talked to all the
other networks, but I ain't got nowhere other than TNT.
But I have made the decision myself. No matter what happens,
(09:11):
next year is gonna be my last year on television.
And I just want to say thank you to my
NBA family. You guys been great to me. My heart
is full with joy and gratitude, but I'm gonna pass
the baton at the end of next year. I hope
the NBA stays with TNT, But for me personally, I
wanted you guys to hear from me because I'm not
(09:32):
doing any more interviews. Don't y'all be calling me. Nobody
calling me. I'm not talking about this again, but I
wanted to tell my NBA and NBA TV and TNT
family that I'm not going to another network, but I'm
gonna pass baton to either Jamal Crawford or Vince Carter
or you, Steve. But next year, I'm gonna just retire
(09:54):
after twenty five years, and I just want to say
thank you, and I wanted y'all to hear from me first.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
That sucks, and I'll tell you why it sucks, because
I don't think people realize or recognize the void that
is left if Barkley's not there, or if that entire
show is not there. And I've said this before, I
would rather watch the NBA on TNT pre in halftime
(10:22):
and postgame show than an actual NBA game. I really would.
I think it's more entertaining, especially during the regular season,
like when you like and Listen, it's not to criticize
ESPN and their pre and post and everything that they're doing,
because listen, they've been getting buried. I mean, everything they've
done and tried to put together had been buried. And
it's not that it's bad, it's that in comparison to
(10:45):
what TNT does, it's nowhere close and nobody is. And
you can talk to other studio analysts from other sports
and they'll tell you the same thing. You can't recreate that.
And the guy who is probably the biggest heart of
that as far as the fun atmosphere chemistry, because Ernie
Johnson's in a class of his own, but it is
(11:06):
Barkley and the void that we're going to have when
Thursdays come around and he's not going to be there,
or when you want a brutally honest opinion about a
game like because Charles Barkley's one of the first analysts
who would just come out and say that game sucked.
Everybody else is trying to push the product, push the product,
grow the product, let everybody you know, everything's okay. Barkley
(11:27):
was one of the first guys to come out and say, no,
that game sucked, that wasn't good. That was bad basketball,
like unapologetic what hears from players, gets pushed back from players,
calls it like it is, and there's going to be
a void that's left when he decides to leave. And
I do believe that that's his intention right now, whether
(11:50):
or not they get it back and he gets talked
into it or they try and extend it. That felt
like somebody was like, you know what I've thought about this,
I'm not going anywhere else. If last year's if next
year's the last year, I'm gone. But when you think
about where he's at, he's in a class with guys
like John Madden, where had a hell of a run
(12:11):
in their profession before they got into media, and then
what they did with the media and in the media
afterwards far exceeded anything they did. Charles Barkley's a Hall
of Fame basketball player. What he's done post career far
exceeded anything he's done on the basketball court. Same with
John Madden. John Madden was a great coach. What he
(12:32):
did post coaching career far exceeded anything he did when
he was a coach. He's in rarefied air and it
goes back to the original point in this business what
we do. Majority of us replaceable. Charles Barkley, he ain't

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio coming up a little over
ten minutes from now from the Tireraq dot com studios.
Somebody else might be in a little bit of trouble
in the world of sports. It's a familiar story. It's
popped up the past, I would say a few months,
last couple of years. It's something very relatable to all
(15:20):
of you. Let's just hope that it's even worse than
currently being speculated. I'll explain why that is coming up
here a little over ten minutes from now. So there
was some outrage in the NFL this week, and this
is my favorite part. Trevor Lawrence gets this new contract, right,
and he gets this five year, two hundred and seventy
(15:41):
five million dollar contract extension with the Jags. There's like
two hundred million guaranteed, one hundred and forty two million
at signing, basically more money than you and I would
ever see if you combined all of our salaries for
the next two hundred years basically is what that is.
And my favorite part about this is when contracts like
(16:04):
this come out or a player like Trevor Lawrence gets paid,
people are up in arms, Well he hasn't earned that.
It's like okay, all right, Like first, like right off
the bat, what do you care? It's not your money,
it's not my money, Like who cares? Like I couldn't
(16:25):
care less what Trevor Lawrence gets paid, like I'm I'm working.
My concern with Trevor Lawrence is was he or was
he not? The guy in the painting in Ghostbusters too?
That's all I want to know. Yes or no. I
don't care. If he's a Hall of Famer. I don't care.
If he's a pro bowler and all pro I don't
(16:47):
care if this is his last contract. I don't care
if he throws ninety picks next year. I don't care
if he wins a Super Bowl. Yes or no? Were
you in the painting in Ghostbusters two? Because you put
that side by side together and you're going to be
caught on it and it's going to be in your
mind for the next two days. The point is this
(17:07):
whole discussion about well, he didn't deserve it, and he say, dude,
that's not the point. It doesn't matter what whether or
not you think he deserves it. It doesn't matter whether
or not anybody else thinks he deserves it. The Jacksonville
Jaguars look at it like this, and they look at
it differently, and they look at it probably wisely, if
we're being fair. Jacksonville looks at it and goes, well,
(17:29):
the price tag's only going to get more expensive. Yeah,
but you didn't have to do it, now understood. But
if you actually believe that he's the guy, and clearly
they do. If you believe that he's the guy, this
contract isn't so much about what he's done. It's about
what you think he's going to be. And if you
(17:52):
think he's going they're doubling down. It's like playing blackjack.
When you decide to double down, it's for two reasons.
Either one, you believe that you're in a pretty good position, yes,
you need something else that's gonna help that position, or
you're drunk. Listen, we've done it before. I've doubled down
(18:17):
in Vegas or some other casino before, and when I
was half in the bag. It happened sometimes or I wasn't,
and I realized, yeah, I'm not in the ideal position
as it stands right now. I may not win this
hand now, but I'm gonna take my chances and I'm
gonna double down. And that's what Jacksonville's doing. They're doubling down.
(18:37):
They took him number one overall for a reason. I mean,
I know, we want to get caught up and well,
he's not this and he's not that. Dude. If you
continue to do the comp game to Patrick Mahomes and
some of these other guys, if you continue to play
that game, you're gonna be doing that for a long time.
Like you double down because you believe he's going to
(18:59):
be everything that you thought he was when he was drafted.
Some teams take different approaches right now. If you're the
Cleveland Browns, you get desperate, then you decide, well, uh, well,
we're gonna double down, and we're going to double down
on a guy who you know has got injury concerns,
kind of quit on his previous team. Oh and by
(19:20):
the way, you know got popped because he was taking
too many trips to the grab lab. But we're gonna
go ahead and double and listen. Sometimes it works out,
sometimes it doesn't. But the point is, when you get
into this discussion about whether or not a player deserves
it and whether or not Trevor Lawrence deserves to be
paid and deserves it, it's like, dude, that's not the
(19:41):
point here. It's the same thing with these quarterback contracts
that come out like fifty five million dollars a year.
Can you believe so and so is getting fifty five millions? Well, yeah,
because that's what the market says. Like, have you seen
gas prices? Like? You know what I see at the
gas station here in southern California. I see gas price
that are five dollars in up, like I mean, and listen,
(20:03):
there was a time where it was like six seven
dollars a couple of years ago. It's come down a
little bit. But you see, you know what I see
at gas stations? I see two things. Well, let me
rephrase it. I see three one high prices, two people
(20:24):
still filling up even though those prices are high, and
three people buying things inside the mini mart at the
gas station that's been sitting there for at least two years.
But the point is no matter how high the prices get,
you're still paying them because it's the cost of doing business.
(20:47):
That's where we're at. And so when people get like
like warned, like in the next conversation, well, who deserves
to get paid neg I promise you this to a
tongue of by Low is going to get a contract
and it's going to be criticized. I promise you. Like,
I promise you, he's going to get a contract and
(21:07):
he's going to be criticized, and whatever the number is,
he's going to get buried for it, I promise you.
And it's a couple of things. People either are still
in love with their initial opinions on him and what
Brian Flores tried to push out there, which was he
can't get the job done. And also they look at
(21:28):
him and go, well, I mean, he's not a top
ten quarterback, but he's being paid like one. Well yeah
right now, because it's his turn, and when it's the
next guy's turn, he's going to get paid. That's the
way this stuff goes. Like the further you get away
from signing your deal, the further down the line you fall.
And so when I see people get up in arms
(21:49):
about this stuff like, oh, well, Dak Prescott, I mean no,
you know, he's like there was a report out there
that Dak Prescott's looking for three hundred million dollars. Okay,
I don't know if he's going to get it, but
if he does, it's not going to be based on
whether or not he's quote unquote earned it or won
a Super Bowl. It's going to be based on what
the market says. Like too many times people look at
(22:12):
these contracts and they think with their own wallet. Like
that was one of the best pieces of advice I
got from somebody. When I used to do over the
phone sales. They would tell me they're like, you know
what your problem is? Because I was terrible, terrible, Like
you know what your problem is? I was like, what's that?
Like you think with your wallet? Like what do you mean?
(22:33):
And then my boss said to me, goes, I hear
you on the phone when the person asks you how
much is it going to cost? You kind of cringe
when you give them the number, and then you're surprised
when they agree to it. I said, well, yeah, Like
why are you doing that? I said, I know it
seems like a lot of money. No, No, it's a
lot of money to you. To you, it's a lot
(22:54):
of money. So when someone asked you, well, how much
is that thing? And I go, uh, two hundred and
forty nine dollars, Like I literally would have that tone, Okay,
that works, here's my credit card number, and I'd be
stunned because two hundred and forty nine dollars. To me,
that's a lot of money, especially for a product I
(23:17):
don't believe in, and I don't think it's gonna help
you at all. That's why I was terrible. It was
too honest for my own good. So when you see
these numbers come out and you see these contracts come
out in these quarterback like, stop thinking with your wallet.
It's not about that. Trust me. Do I believe Trevor
Lawrence has earned two hundred and seventy five million dollars? No,
(23:38):
but I don't look at it like that. I look
at it like, well, Jacksonville's doubling down, and they think
two seventy five now, or whatever the number is, whatever
the guaranteed dollars are, because a lot of this stuff
is fluff. Whatever it is now isn't gonna seem like
a whole lot when two years from now, the next
guy signs his deal that far surpasses that. But that's
(23:58):
the problem. So too many times people think with their
wallet and not the wallet of a billionaire owner who
has a yacht the size of Puerto Rico, plays games
in London, owns a soccer team, a crummy wrestling organization,
and can basically do whatever the hell he wants. And
(24:20):
so if he believes in Trevor Lawrence when he drafted
him number one overall, you bet your ass. He believes
in him when he's seen at least a little bit
to think it's gonna get pretty expensive. He's our guy.
Let's go ahead and double down on him. Jonas Knox,
he or Fox Sports Radio, get me on Twitter at
the Jonas Knox at the Jonas Knox on Twitter. So
coming up next here, we've got ourselves a fun little
(24:41):
story in the world of sports, and I'm just hoping
it's much worse than what people are kind of guessing
or assuming it is. We'll get into that for you
here on FSR, but for all the latest from around
the world of sports makes some noise for Nick Cobe,
all right, thank you, Jonas. So just to further your point,
I was thinking about Kyler Murray a couple of years ago.
On that huge contract he got, he was the second
highest paid quarterback at the time. Only two years later
(25:05):
he's already down to number seven. No one talks about
Kyler Murray's crazy contract now. So you get ahead of it.
You get ahead of it, and you're better off in
the long run. You remember when the Browns, like part
of the discussion with Baker Mayfield and the Browns is
going into his final year. They were having conversations about
a deal and it was like, man, Baker Mayfield's asking
(25:27):
for thirty million dollars a year. Dude, Trevor Lawrence just
got fifty five, like thirty million dollars a year, and
you gave two hundred and thirty million guaranteed to Deshaun Watson.
And ask yourself this, since that signing, who's been a
better quarterback, Baker Mayfield or Deshaun Watson. It's not even close. No,
But listen, that's that's the way this stuff goes. It's fun, though,
(25:48):
it's fun talking about other people's money. Yes, it's really
it really is. What a great joy this is on
sports Radio The Baker. Now, by the way, he's getting
on average thirty three thousand per year. He's right about
what he was asking four years ago, but that's got
him below Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones going
to talk about a bargain for the Buccaneers. Yeah, no, kidding,
(26:10):
good for him. Do have some NFL news today reports
a Bengals receiver T Higgins has signed his franchise tag
and is expected to report to training camp next month,
though a long term deal for Higgins is considered unlikely
at this time. We've got moving day at the US
Open from Pinehurst. Number two leaders going to be teeing
off over the course of the next hour. Ludwig Obert,
(26:32):
he finished second at the Masters. He is your solo
leader at five under. There's a three way time for
second at four under that includes Bryce and to Shamba
and Patrick Cantley, and that Roy McRoy and Tony Final
are part of a group at three under. Game four.
The Stanley Cup Final is tonight at eight Easter and
the Florida Panthers are looking to become the first team
(26:53):
to sweep the final since the Red Wings did it
to the Capitals in nineteen ninety eight. In baseball. The
Orioles play right hand or Kyle Brandish on the fifteen
day injured list with a UCL sprain in his elbow.
One game going on, Cubs and Cardinals scoreless in the
first inning. And to follow up on Charles Barkley from
the top of the hour, Jonas tn T had a
(27:13):
statement saying, in part quote, Charles is a Hall of
Famer and broadcasting icon who is and always will be
a beloved member of the TNT Sports family. We're looking
forward to another fantastic NBA on TNT season and further
discussion of our future plans with him. End quote. So, Jonas,
it seems like TNT, you know, Charles is saying he's done,
(27:34):
but TNT is hoping that's not necessarily the case. I
don't know, man. He seemed pretty emotional about it, and
I just my guess is he met everything he said,
and maybe who knows, he looks at it and goes, man,
I don't have to rely on the NBA. I don't
have to. If I want to do a podcast, I
(27:55):
can go do a podcast. I think he still does
one with Ernie Johnson. I can go do something else.
I can adventure elsewhere. But maybe he's just tired of
the grind, tired of it, and he just doesn't want
to do anything that's not what they currently have a TNT,
which is the best pre and post game, best studio
show in the history of the business. So we'll see
how that plays out. Thanks Nick. It is Jonas Knox
here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up here in about
(28:16):
twelve minutes from now, we're going to have another edition
of Do You Care, Always fun conversation as we give
brutally honest thoughts on some of the major sports topics
that you've been forced over the past several days. That'll
be yours here about twelve minutes from now, So listen. Now,
one of these stories is back. It is back, and
I'll be honest with you, a little bit underwhelming. Okay,
(28:39):
So Major League Baseball announced on Friday it was disciplining
Pat Hoberg an umpire. He's an umpire because apparently he
violated the league's gambling rules. So you know, they're the
guy's appealing the decision, but he's denied betting on baseball.
They don't know what the exact discipline is, they don't
(29:02):
even know what the violation is, but he is not.
You know, he's been kind of placed on leave as
they try and figure out and discuss and determine what
exactly happened. And my guess is that it's really not
anything that significant, Like I mean, really nothing at all.
(29:24):
But because he's an umpire, then all of a sudden
people freak out and they go, well, is this another
Tim donahe And it's like, okay, well probably not. Like
I mean, Tim Donahue was literally throwing games, like had
evidence of it, like called out other officials that were
involved in it, like oh you know, and the NBA
kind of kept it all hush hush. And this is true.
(29:45):
The NBA kept it hush hush because they were getting
ready to sign this big TV deal and then all
of a sudden, the TV deal got signed. Then they
came out and said, oh, yeah, by the way, we
got this guy. We're going to take care of this,
like they knew the whole time. It's like Major League
Baseball with steroids, Like they didn't know all those guys
were on gas. You think they didn't know all those
guys were pissing hot when they were hitting sixty plus
(30:06):
home runs a year and hitting the ball five Miles.
You didn't think they knew. Of course they did, but
they realized there was an opportunity. We'll keep our mouth shut, etc.
So Major League Baseball's got this situation that they're trying
to sort through. But my guess is probably not that
big of a deal. I don't know if this means
that he's going to lose his job. He was credited
(30:28):
for not missing a ball or a strike in the
World Series a couple of years ago, which is pretty impressive.
If you watch any Major League Baseball routine, league guys
miss balls and strikes that you can clearly see on
the box, on the screen or outside or inside it,
missed it all the time. This guy didn't miss a
ball or a strike in the World Series. But here's
(30:49):
what I would say, I'm fed up with this nickel
and dime crab, all right, I'm tired of it. I'm
tired of guys getting punished and bended for stuff that
I look at and go, you know what, what's the
big deal? We talked about it in the NFL. Jamison
Williams is sitting on a training table getting some treatment
(31:12):
on his bum knee. He's got one of the college
football games on on a Saturday at the team facility.
Guy throws like twenty bucks on a first half parlay
of like Middle Tennessee and like I don't know, circle
K Tech and he loses the bet and that guy
(31:34):
gets pop six games. Kind of ridiculous, kind of egregious.
Calvin Ridley takes time away from the NFL, does a
bunch of goofy parlays, loses a season of his career,
kind of ridiculous, kind of doesn't make sense. Like there's
just a lot of this stuff I look at and
I go feels like a bit much touka. Peter Marcano
(31:58):
getting banned for life because he was did a bunch
of placing a bunch of bets while he was not
participating in games, didn't bet on one single game he
was in. By the way, not one gets banned for life.
And then it comes out that he had a four
percent winning percentage. You don't think gambling has punished him enough.
(32:21):
The guy won four percent of his bets, my son's three.
He could walk into Whiskey Pets at State Line in
prim Nevada and hit five percent of his bets that
he plays. In fact, I'll tell you this right now
him and I were betting on horse racing last week,
(32:41):
no joke, on Sunday, the sixth race at Golden Gate Fields.
He picked the winner at seven to one. This guy
for the Pirates and Padres was a four percent winner
and lost his job because of it. Like, I get it.
You want to pop him for a year, you want
(33:02):
to suspend him for two years? Okay, band for life
feels like a bit much. So all I'm asking is this,
If we're going to make an example of somebody, at
least have it be something that's above and beyond. Like
tell me that this umpire was like gambling on how
far the count would go? Like, tell me this umpire
(33:22):
was actually gambling on if it turns out that, like
he placed a bet on a horse race in Indonesia,
or he placed a bet on Little League World Series
games because Chinese Taipei had some kid who was twenty
eight that was pretending to be an eleven year old.
If that's the case, exonerated on all charges. And I
(33:43):
want that guy umping every single game of the World
Series and the next World Series after that because he's
been embarrassed by Major League Baseball. Jonas Knox here Fox
Sports Radio at the Jonas Knox on Twitter at the
Jonas Knox on Twitter. All right, it's coming up next here.
Enough of this negative. We need some positivity in our lives,
and there's nothing better to solve all of that and
(34:05):
quench our positivity thirst like another edition of Do You Care?
And that's yours next here on FSR Jonas Knox Fox
Sports Radio coming up top of next hour. We will
call it a little over twelve minutes from now from
the tire rack dot Com studios. I'm telling you right now,
this upcoming week, there are going to be discussions that
(34:26):
are had on sports TV and sports radio that I
am absolutely dreading, and we will get into that for
you again coming up here. We're not actually gonna have
those conversations. We're gonna have a conversation about those conversations.
That'll be yours here coming up a little over twelve
minutes from now. A reminder, though, shortly after the show,
(34:46):
our podcast will be going up, so if you've missed
any of today's show, be sure to check out the
pod search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast.
Be sure to also follow, rate and review the pod. Again,
just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast,
and you'll see this show posted right after we get
off the air.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
There are so many stories in the world of sports,
and most of them are a complete waste of time
TMS reports.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Let's get kinky. Here's some of the big stories from
the last week. But Jonas, the real question is do
you care? And for that we turn it over to
our executive producer, Bo Benson to find out what the
hell people have been talking about all week.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
Bo, all right, so former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick,
age seventy two, is reportedly dating a twenty four year
old former cheerleader, which begs the question is she just
really good at identifying like defensive coverages or is Bill
a way bigger Billie Eilish fan than we anticipated?
Speaker 2 (35:42):
So, Jonas, do you care? Yes? I absolutely do. I
got it. Let me just go ahead and seventy two
to twenty four. Let's just go ahead and take a
look at this. Now, who's reporting this?
Speaker 5 (35:54):
Like?
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Is this?
Speaker 7 (35:55):
Oh yeah, it's TMS Sports. I believe.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Listen, they're pretty he doesn't miss a lot. I don't
know the last time they have missed. And listen, I'm
not gonna sit here and critique what's going on there
and whether or not, Like maybe they hit it off,
maybe she likes his personality. Maybe you know, he looks
at her and goes, you know what, this is gonna
be fun. Well, you know, I'll try this out for
a spin, so to speak. But like, there's nothing wrong
(36:18):
with this. People got to stop being so judgmental about
certain interests and certain likes, you know what I mean.
Like there's certain things that people like that I can't stand.
Like people like mushrooms. I think they're revolting, Like people
like there's all sorts of stuff that I like that
other people don't like. I'm just I'm not into But
if Belichick is into this and she's into him, I
(36:40):
hope they get married. And I think it's about love,
not about attractiveness and about the difference in age. And
people got to stop being so mean to Bill Belichick.
The guy's the greatest of all time. He deserves to
have a little dessert after the meal that he cooked
the last decade plus in New England, or two decade
plus rather.
Speaker 7 (36:56):
Next, the Kansas City Chiefs received their very nice Super
Bowl rings earlier this week. Although there is a typo
on the inside of the rings, they list the Miami
Dolphins as the seventh seed when they were actually the
sixth seeds.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
So, Jonas, do you care? Not really listen, I mean,
if we're being honest, the way Miami played in that
playoff game, they should have been the seventh seed, and
they should actually shouldn't have been a playoff team period,
completely melted down in the cold like they did. You know,
Patrick Mahomes has got his helmet falling apart. You've got
you know, people losing body parts because it's so cold
(37:30):
out there, and Kansas City handle it better. So six
seven eight doesn't matter. They've got the ring to show
for it. And maybe if you're one of those guys
and you complain enough, you can keep that one, get
a new one, and then all of a sudden, it's
like one of those things like a baseball card or
a sports card that has a misspelling that becomes worth
more years down the road, and then you can sell
(37:50):
it on eBay for a bunch of money.
Speaker 7 (37:52):
Next, the Detroit Lions have signed UFL kicker Jake Bates
to a two year deal. Jonas, do you care? Yeah, listen,
this is good.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
This is this is why the UFL and things like
the preseason still matter and are still around and relevant.
It gives players an opportunity to be seen, It gives
players an opportunity to showcase their skill set, and it
gives them a chance at the NFL. Let's go live
to our UFL Detroit Lions insider Chris Prefet for the latest.
(38:22):
Chris So, he've played for the Michigan Panthers, so he's
already familiar with Ford Field, and he was nailing sixty
four yard field goals from inside that stadium. See yeah,
I think that's I think that warrants a two year
contract makes all the sense in the world. Until he
misses a kick and asking him to be cut, that'll
be that'll be unfortunate.
Speaker 7 (38:38):
Next, the Salt Lake City Hockey team has chosen Utah
Hockey Club as its temporary name. Jonas do you care? No,
I don't care, because they don't care. Clearly they don't care.
You got a list of possibilities. They took a fan
vote or something like that.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
There was like the Utah Blizzard, the Utah More, the
Utah I don't think that was actually one YETI.
Speaker 7 (39:04):
I hope that's what it ends up being.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
By the one.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Yeah, wh just sounds minor league teams though. The Utah Snow,
the Utah John Stockton's armpits, like they had all sorts
of stuff that was out there and this is what
they settled on. Well, for the time being, will be
the Utah Hockey Club. It's lazy. I don't like lazy,
and therefore I'm not going to care at all about it.
Speaker 7 (39:24):
Next, forty nine Ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been
named the cover athlete for Madden twenty five.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Jonas, do you care?
Speaker 3 (39:32):
Not really?
Speaker 2 (39:33):
I mean it look and I know that there's this
mad curse and all that. I don't like if a
running back gets injured. I just I don't think that
that's a Madden curse. I just think that's the position
and the wear and tear. Like Christian McCaffrey, like the
offensive Player of the year, great player, But I don't
really I haven't played Madden in years and years, so
I don't even know who was on the cover last
(39:54):
year or the year before that. I think the last
time I played Madden, Dante Colepepper was on the cover.
And I'm not even making that up.
Speaker 7 (40:00):
Next, Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho blasted his club on Instagram,
saying that he won't watch any upcoming games or celebrate
a possible Brazilian victory after they drew level with the
United States and a friendly I believe earlier this week. Jonas,
do you care?
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Yeah, that's a little dig at the US US soccer.
There's nothing like dig in US soccer fans. They're so
sensitive that this is our year, We're serious this time,
and then like it never is. It's just it's fun
to do. And apparently that's all he's trying to do.
I would point this out, though, I Mean, the reason
why he's not going to watch any of that is
because he's clearly focused on what is about to happen
(40:37):
in the euro Cup on Fox, because Italy is going
to defend the crown. That's right, the Italians are going
to defend the crown. And when they lose to Albania
or whoever it is they're playing later on today, I
don't want to hear anything of it because clearly they
were just playing down to their competition.
Speaker 7 (40:53):
Next, drone video out of Bolivia that aired on local
news appears to show the Chupacabra and they're taking it
as definitive proof.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
So Jonas, do you care? Yeah? I care because, well one,
you sent me the video, and I definitely care about
the start of the video because the hiring process there
at that station is working. And I also care because
how somebody could think that is a Chubacbra and not
some drunk bumb taking a dump in a field somewhere
(41:20):
is mind boggling to me. So get ready for it.
There's something coming up this week in the world of sports.
I'm telling you, I am telling you right now that
I am absolutely dreading. We'll get into the details on
that coming up here just a couple of moments from now.
Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio. You can listen to us
on the iHeartRadio app. You can find us on hundreds
(41:41):
of affiliates all across the country. Wherever you are making

doing so. We will be taking you all the way

one o'clock Pacific, and of course we do it per

raq dot com. We'll help you get there an unmatched selection,
fat free shipping, free road has a protection and over
(42:02):
ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the way
tire buying should be. So we opened up talking about
the NBA Finals and listen, the Mavericks stay alive. Dallas
has got a pulse until the Celtics closed the coffin
on Monday night, and then we're done with all this,
(42:24):
Like it's just it is what it is. The series
is over. We can try and you know, slice and
dice and find what last night's game means to the
series and whether or not Dallas has got hope. It's like, okay,
they won a game. Cool, but we all know where
this is going. The Celtics were pulling starters in the
third quarter. Dallas came out with everything to play for,
(42:46):
everything on the line. And if you've watched Boston all year,
the one thing they always do is respond when they
lose a game. The two games they had lost previous
to this in the NBA playoffs before, they responded both times.
That's how this is going to go. They're gonna win.
They're probably gonna win handily. On Monday night, the series
is over and they're gonna win the title just is
(43:06):
what it is. Here is the discussion though, that is
going to be had, and I'm dreading it because I
know it's coming, because it always comes, and you're gonna
see it too. Get ready for legacy talk.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
Ooo ooh, it's so good legacy talk, Like, Hey, what
does this series mean to Luca's legacy?
Speaker 2 (43:36):
His first Finals appearance and he fouled out of a
game and he couldn't get more than one win for
his team, So what does it mean for his legacy? Hey?
What about Kyrie's legacy? What does it mean here in
n Ooh, Jalen Brown and Jason what does it mean
for Jason Tatum's legacy? Like, ooh, just get ready for
(44:00):
buckle up, it's coming legacy talk this week in the
world of sports. Oh, it's gonna happen. And it sucks
because it doesn't make any sense. If Dallas goes out
Monday Night and Luca struggles and they lose in five
(44:22):
games to the Celtics, people are going to take a
look back at the series and go come man lost
in five games, melted down in game three, fouled out
of one, complained too much to the officials. His defense
was suspect and spotty etc. Et cetera, et cetera. And
(44:48):
what's your point, Well, it's the finals, you've got okay, Like,
do you remember the conversation we were having less than
a year ago. Remember that conversation we were having. You
know what the discussion was. You can't pay Jalen Brown
that kind of money after what he just did in
(45:08):
the play? Are you serious? You gotta be what are
you a drug addict? You're gonna pay Jalen Brown that
kind of money after what happened against the Miami Heat.
Jason Tatum goes down early in Game seven against the Heat,
Jalen Brown struggles the rest of the game. That's when
he needs to pick up the slack And you're gonna
give no way. If anything, they should break this duo up.
(45:32):
Jalen Brown's the favorite to win NBA Finals MVP less
than a year later. Like this whole legacy converce, Dude,
you don't know what want to know when legacy conversation
should be had after the career is over. That's when
you have this this whole What does this do to
(45:53):
his Like, I have no idea. That's like projecting when
you're gonna get food poisoning. If you could project when
you'd get food poisoning, you probably wouldn't eat the food,
right like I would guess that probably wouldn't be the move.
It's like imagine sitting down. You know, you put your
napkin in your shirt collar, or you lay it on
(46:15):
your lap. You get ready. You got the fork in
the left hand, or and the knife and the right
or vice versa, whichever way you want to go. You
go to take the first bite, and you go no way, way, way, way, way, way, way.
This is gonna damage my toilet's legacy in the next
twenty minutes. I'm gonna go ahead and pass. No, you
(46:38):
wouldn't do that. You just eat your food and you
deal with the repercussions whatever happens. You have no idea.
You have no way to guess whether or not you're
gonna get food poisoning. You have no way to guess
whether or not you're gonna have crap running down the
side of your leg, whether you're gonna have to throw
away your socks, or you're gonna go ahead and puke
in the sink because you couldn't even make it to
the toilet. It just is what it is. If you
(47:00):
can't project this stuff. We have no idea what's going
to happen to Luca moving forward, Kyrie moving forward, anybody
on any of these rosters, on any of these teams.
We have no clue, no clue. The only thing we
know is that this series is over and five. That's
what we know. That's all we know. But everyone trying
to like to look at like Brian Windhors going all
(47:21):
in and listen, some of the criticism is warranted. We
get it, spotty defense, but everybody's known that about him.
Jason Kidd has called him out for the complaining to
officials before and in fact, if you want to go
and do a deep dive, if you want to go
back to one of the previous matchups. The Celtics and
the MAVs played twice during the regular season. After one
(47:43):
of those games, Jason Kidd said, I wish Luca wouldn't
complain so much about the officiating, something along those lines like,
I wish you wouldn't complain so much after either the
same game or the next game they played Boston in
and lost by a wide margin. In Jason kidds say
they're doing it on offense, the way they move the ball,
(48:04):
this and that they don't have guys out there playing.
Iso basically called out his team. This has been a
story all year throughout his career. This has been a conversation.
But because it's on the biggest stage now, it's going
to be well, what does this do to his legacy?
Speaker 5 (48:20):
What?
Speaker 2 (48:21):
Dude? We have no idea, just like we didn't know
what Jalen Brown's legacy was going to be last year.
People wanted Joe Missoula fired last year after the way
they fell apart. They wanted him gone, He's got to go.
They wanted there were Celtics fans that were outraged by
the fact that they traded away Marcus Smart. How could
you do that? The window is closed. Those conversations were happening,
(48:45):
and here we are a year later and they're a
better team. Like, we don't like this whole but this
is where this is going to go. And I'm telling you,
and you can tweet me about it, and you can
see it on TV. You can hear the convers and
you can just think, where did I hear that this
was going to happen? Oh, that's right, I heard it
Saturday when I was driving around doing errands. I heard
(49:07):
it Saturday when I was at a whiffle ball game
with an AirPod in and I was getting ripped while
I was throwing somebody an off speed pitch. It's gonna happen.
It happens all the time, and it never makes sense
to me. You go with what you know, and what
you know is Lucas one of the top five players
in the world, and if we're being honest about it,
he's been by far and away the best offensive player
(49:29):
in this series and it ain't close. But if he
loses in five games to the best team in basketball,
none of this stuff is a revelation. This has been
happening during the course of the regular season. They've played
this team several times now, and it's the same story
virtually every time. Outside of last night. Boston's just better.
(49:50):
They're just better. And what it means is future. We
don't know, just like we didn't know what it meant
to Jalen Brown's future and the guy got paid and
he's on the Virgin winning NBA Finals MVP Legacy talk
it sucks. Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio, Get me
on Twitter at the Jonas Knox at the Jonas Knocks
on Twitter, speaking of which a lot of positive feedback
(50:14):
being brought in. Tony writes, Beta bleep Jonahs still in
the fetal position, whining and pmsing about bleep Hurley turning
down your fakers, You bordop bleep. Paul writes in Judas
(50:36):
in your soy boy feelings about your bear fantasy Bill
bella bitch now the sugar daddy for some teenager. You bleep.
Chris writes in if the umpire was breaking the stated rules,
I don't give a crap. He can call balls and
(50:58):
strikes his ass. He needs to be railed. You're a
horrible radio host who can't even judge a pot smoking contest,
but Fox keeps your horrible show on. Go figure. Aaron
writes in, excellent job coming up with a way to
keep me watching a useless NBA game, But clearly you
(51:19):
should be working on how you keep people listening to
your worthless Saturday show at the Jonas Knox. At the
Jonas Knox on Twitter is where you can find all
the upbeat positive feedback from loyal listeners to the show.
Let me just say this about Belichick though, all right,
(51:39):
you talk about a rebound and I'm not talking about
her because if you missed it, Bo brought up that,
amongst other things, apparently people in Bolivia think a homeless
guy is a cubicabra. But also he brought up the
fact that Bill Belichick is dating like a twenty four
year old. Like you talk like, is it too early
to vote come back Player of the Year, Like is
(52:02):
it too early because it's Belichick by a mile, Like
you think like Joe Flacco, just go ahead and give it.
Give it to Belichick now, like they tried everything to
smear him, And there's been a couple of people that
have been consistent in their support, former Patriot players and
me consistent in our support of Bill Belichick. His resume,
(52:27):
his coaching credentials, all of that has been disrespected, and
then his dating credentials got disrespected by people trying to
judge him for dating a twenty four year old comeback
player of the year. It's already over. It goes to
Bill Belichick. By the way Greg writes in this lazy bleep,
Noxie can't wait to break down and analyze what Caitlin
(52:49):
Clark's legacy is and should be. His useless ass boycott
until she's treated like Lebron. I don't even know what
that means. I don't even know what the WNBA is,
to be honest with you, I'm sure that'll sit well
with some people out there. It's a joke. Relax, it's
(53:11):
a joke, right, Let's not lose our sense as of
humor here. I know everybody wants to have fake outrage
about by the way you talk about fake, the WNBA
debates and outrage out there is one of the most
fraudulent things I've ever seen done in this business. It's
comical how much people are pretending to care when they
absolutely do not. And that'll wrap up our coverage of
(53:35):
the WIBA here on this show coming up next here though,
from the tiraq dot com studios. You can try and
deny this all you want. You can try and push
back and say no, this isn't what's happening. That's not
what's happening. But there is somebody in the NFL who's
getting the same thing every single off season. It's happening again.
(53:57):
We'll tell you what it is right here on FSR
Boom Texas for Jonas Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio coming
up a little over ten minutes from now from the
tire rack dot Com Studios. I have to make an
admission here on the air. I made a mistake. But again,
(54:19):
like you know, I'm gonna try and defend myself, but
facts are facts. I'm gonna make a mistake. Nobody probably
even caught it, but I will get into that for
you coming up here in Yeah, we'll call it a
little over ten minutes from now. It's involving a major
sporting event. So so there we go. It is us
doing this show here live from the tire rack dot
Com studios, and we've been sitting here, you know, waxing
(54:41):
poetically about a lot of things out there. One of
the great mysteries that's currently going on in the world
is in Bolivia. Bo Benson had sent over a video.
We talked about it in Do You Care of a
drone video in Bolivia that had found How is it
described Bo like a like a creature walking upright or
(55:02):
something like that?
Speaker 7 (55:03):
Bipedal creature?
Speaker 2 (55:05):
The hell does that mean? Like? What's what's a bipedal creature?
Speaker 7 (55:11):
What walks on two legs?
Speaker 2 (55:14):
Yeah, so like a human like that's like that's the
part of that that's why. Like when the story comes out,
I'm like, why are they jump into conclusions? Like they're
showing all these dead animals in the video? Like who knows,
maybe the guy got hungry. I don't know what to
tell you. Ever seen the movie seven? Like just stuff
like that happened. But the point is there's like a
(55:35):
big mystery, like is it a chupicabra? All right? Do
we have actual evidence of a chup of cabra? And
I look at it and I go, all right, Well,
you can be concerned about that, or we could be
concerned about the whereabouts of Aaron Rodgers because there's no
(55:55):
A lot of theories thrown out about where Aaron Rodgers
is and why he needed to miss mandatory mini camp, right,
and a lot of people were very outraged by it. Right,
So there's been stuff that's thrown out there. I saw
somebody throw out there. Is he visiting the Pyramids or
the Sphinx or whatever it is? Like, I mean, if
that's if that's it, dude, If by the way, if
(56:15):
that's the case, just go to the lux or it's
right there. What's the difference? Honestly? Like, I mean, and
it's a lot cheaper, and you can gamble, like I
don't know if you if you can gamble in the Pyramids,
Like if they threw a slot machine in there, I
might actually thinking about going. But if they're not going
to I'll just go to the lux Or. Plus you
can get to MGM, Grand Excalibur, all the same places.
(56:38):
But there's been all sorts of theories thrown out there.
He was on vacation, maybe he's oversees at like a
concert festival, whatever the case is. Robert Sala wasn't concerned
by it. Yeah, it wasn't excused, but you know they
had to find him because that's part of the deal
with the CBA. So you know he missed that time.
(57:00):
You've got you know, other people that are saying, well,
you know, it shows clear dysfunction and he needs to
be there and it's mandatory, and it's like, okay, but
what about all the other things that he was at
and participated in this offseason? Like what about all that?
Sauce Gardner defended him and basically said, you know the
quiet part out loud, are you really making a big deal?
But a fifteen year plus quarterback missing two days of
(57:23):
me you know, like you've got it, and listen. You
can argue one way or the other. The bottom line
is this, and people can try and dispute this all
they want. This is a fact. If this was any
other starting quarterback in the NFL outside of Deshaun Watson,
he's the exception. And I'll explain in a second. But
(57:44):
if this was anybody in the NFL outside of Deshaun Watson,
would this have gotten the coverage it got. The answer
is no. The answer is no. I mean that's just
the truth. But because it's Rogers, that's why I got coverage. Now,
(58:05):
Deshaun Watson would have gotten coverage because it's like, all right,
well dude, you should probably be there. You haven't been
there very much, and they're paying the a lot of money,
and there's a lot of questions about character and willingness
to play and all that stuff that comes along with it.
All that would make sense. Like Deshaun Watson, I can
understand the criticism, But Rogers missing two days of mandatory
mini camp is a story because it's Rogers. That's why, Like,
(58:31):
if this was my homes story, probably not, Josh Allen,
probably not. Like literally every single quarterback in the NFL
does it get the coverage that it would know, But
because it's Rogers, that's where we're at. And you can
try and say that this isn't factual, But if you
(58:51):
talk to somebody in the media who's actually honest about it,
Rogers has covered different than majority of players in the
name foul And because he didn't tow the company line
and because he didn't follow the crowd, and I think
we all know what we're talking about here, and because
he does things a little bit differently and because of that,
(59:15):
he gets criticized differently than anybody else. And you can
say that has nothing to do with this. It won
one hundred percent? Does one hundred percent?
Speaker 3 (59:24):
Does?
Speaker 2 (59:27):
Like if Derek Carr missed mandatory mini camps and had
it approved from the team prior, is this a story? No, Hey,
where is Derek Carr? So whether they're not telling us
where he is, okay, Like, and it doesn't matter what
the reasoning is, Like whether he's visiting the pyramids, or
he's at a concert festival, or he's you know, like
(59:51):
traveling to space, or he's underground, you know, on the
hippie lettuce again, like what like whatever it is, he's
going to get judged differently and criticized differently for it.
That's a fact. Like he talked to and communicated with
them in advance. Ay, just so you know this has
(01:00:12):
come up. It's really important to me. I want to
take the time. But don't worry. It's not going to
impact anything that I've got going on with the team here.
I'm going to be here the whole off season. We'll
be here for training camp, all that stuff. I'm healthy,
I'm ready to go good. The guy was their majority
of the time after he got hurt, tried to come
back and play last year. But this idea that all
(01:00:34):
of a sudden we've got to question his commitment level.
If you want to question his commitment level, you could
have done that in Green Bay. Probably because he missed
majority of the off season with the Jets has him
in the case. But he gets treated differently And that's
just a reality. And there's like people to get upset
about that. And I can promise you right now, there's
(01:00:55):
people that are going to push back on this and
say no, no, no, you're just defending and you're you're
ball washing Aaron Rodgers because you always bought it. It's
like No, this is the truth. You can try and
deny it, but he has strong opinions that a lot
of people don't agree with, and therefore he gets judged differently.
Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
It's a truth.
Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
I mean, so what the guy's into some kid he
didn't want to get vaccinated? His business, not mine. I
don't care. Like I've never one time walked up to
anybody during in the midst of co I never one
time walked up to him and say, hey, did you
get vexed? It's not my business what I'll do with
like whatever. If he did, he did, that's fine. So
(01:01:38):
the guy believes in a couple of conspiracy theories, so what,
who knows. Maybe he's in Bolivia, for God's sakes, trying
to figure out whether or not that was a chupacabra
in a field somewhere, some guy taking a crap who
maybe who knows, But whatever the answer is, and whatever
we ultimately find out he was doing this past week,
(01:02:01):
I promise you he's going to get buried for it
and criticized, and it's going to happen differently than it
would anybody else because he's Aaron Rodgers, Jonas Knox here
Fox Sports Radio get me on Twitter at the Jonas
Knox at the Jonas Knox on Twitter, and you can
hang out with us as always on the iHeartRadio app.
Coming up next here though, from the tiraq dot Com Studios.
(01:02:25):
I've got to make an honest admission here, all right,
I've got to fess up to something, a mistake that
I made in regard to a major sporting event. That'll
be yours next here on FSR. But for all the
latest from around the world of sports, it's Nick Cope Jonas.
How worried were you with Albania scoring the fastest goal
in euro history to get Italy on their heels early. Well,
(01:02:49):
here's why I was concerned, because if Italy loses this game,
good luck getting Chris Purfett's attention for the rest of
the weekend. Right, it's not happening. I'm going places right now. Yeah,
if it happens, that's I think that's bad for the network.
So I just want everything to go well for Italy.
Lead my personal rooting interest out of this. This is
(01:03:11):
for the well being a Fox Sports Radio because if
you lose Cris prefet or if you get Chris Prefett
in a pissy mood. That's not a fun environment to
be in. I'll just say that. Well, Italy has taken
a two to one lead, so I think order has
been restored here, at least in the first thirty minutes
of that. And by the way, the two goal lead,
(01:03:32):
I believe, or the two goals that they've scored, I believe,
is probably the most goals Italy's ever scored in a
major tournament. And I mistaken it's been or not known
for their offense. We'll just put it that way. Well,
be sure to catch all of Euro twenty twenty four
on Fox. By the way, quick Plug NFL News reports
a Bengals receiver T Higgins has signed his franchise tag
(01:03:53):
and he is expected to report to training camp next month.
The long term deal for Higgins, though, is considered unlikely
at this time. We got Round three of the US
Open from Pinehurst. Number two in progress. The leaders have
just gotten going. Ludwig Obert holds a solo lead at
five hunder. You've got four players just one shot back
at four under. Among them, Bryce in de Shambo and
(01:04:16):
Patrick Cantley, Roy McRoy and Tony Finow are part of
a group at three under. Got Game four, the Sanley
Cup Final, coming up tonight at eight Eastern. The Florida
Panthers are seeking to become the first team to sweep
the finals since the Red Wings did it to the
Capitals back in nineteen ninety eight. Baseball News the Orioles
placed right hander Kyle Bradish on the fifteen day injured
(01:04:38):
list with the UCL sprain in his elbow. To have
a couple of ball games going on. The Cubs lead
the Cardinals two to one at Wrigley in the fifth inning,
and those scorgeous yet between the Blue Jays and the
Guardians second inning there in Toronto. Jonas back to you,
Thanks Nick Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming
up and we'll call it fifteen minutes from now from
the Ti rack dot Com studios, we are going to
(01:05:00):
have another edition of the Scraps Things in the World
of sports and beyond. We have not had a chance
to get to today. They will be yours here as
we close up shop on a Saturday afternoon. So I've
got to admit something. We're talking about the US Open
this week on two pros and a Cup of Joe.
I do that show with God the How's their name whatever,
(01:05:26):
but it's featuring me and it's got a couple other
guys as well too. They played in the NFL or
something like that. But the point is we were doing
this show and we were talking about the US Open.
We were making picks and the way we do it
because we could sit here and like pretend that we
know who's going to win the US Open, or we
could just draw names out of a hat. So we
found a hat that was in the kitchen, like literally
(01:05:46):
like somebody's hat that was just left there in the kitchen.
Which if I mean, if you're looking for anything, you
could probably find it in the kitchen of a radio studio,
Like if you're like, and I've said this before, like
there's a like a certain protocol like for radio, like
(01:06:06):
if you work in radio, and normally what it is
is like whatever food you don't finish at home, just
bring it in and throw it in the kitchen and
leave it there, and it doesn't matter if it's been
sitting there for two three days, somebody's gonna eat it,
Like whether it's Halloween candy, goldfish crackers, you know, cookies
that you claim to have made, but they're clearly were
(01:06:29):
store bought and expired, but you put them, you like,
put them on a paper plate and put foil over them,
like he just put them pulled him out of the oven.
That's my go to. I always do that, Like there's
just you know, like things like that you could just find.
And apparently we found a hat. Somebody had left their
hat there, so we just drew names out of the hat.
And so the name, like, as we're drawing all these
names out of the hat, the name I drew out
(01:06:50):
of the hat.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
Was h.
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
I pronounced that Ludwig Aburg, and as I have come
to find out, apparently that is not the pronunciation that
we are that we are looking for. Apparently, as Nick
Cope has pointed out, Ludwig Obert, I believe is the
(01:07:16):
proper pronunciation. So I just want to apologize because that
was a misstep on my part. I thought it was
pretty simple, pretty straightforward. You know, Ludwig Aberg. We were
making jokes about Lodwig von Beethoven, and apparently it's definitely
not Aberg. But he is leading the US Open so
that is good news. And it's unfortunate that I butchered
(01:07:38):
his name. The name that I did draw out of
the Hat this week on two pros and a cup
of Joe. So I just want to admit to that.
I want to fess up to that. For those of
you that have never been to a US Open, it's
actually a pretty fun event. I had a chance to
go in twenty sixteen to Oakmont, and the most noteworthy
part of that was the Pittsburgh Penguins had just won
(01:08:01):
the Stanley Cup. I think it was twenty sixteen or
twenty seventeen. I think it was twenty sixteen. They had
just won the Stanley Cup, and so all the Penguins
players were walking around the course annihilated, like like walking
around in flip flops, drinking beers, just really because they
had just had their I think they had their championship parade.
(01:08:23):
I went there and it was like the most bo
I've ever smelled in my life, Like people like for
whatever reason, it was really hot in Pittsburgh, especially that week,
and like there were storm I think it was really
really bad, and the BO level, the BO index in
Pittsburgh at that time was off the charts, and Penguins
players are just walking around getting housed while they were
(01:08:44):
getting ready to watch golf. Let's go live to our
I have a thought on the Penguin's bo insider Chris
Popfett for the latest Chris nothing on the bo. But
I can confirm being drunk off your Keeyaster is very
good at the US Open, because I did it last
year at the La Country Club because connections. I had
an open bar with the USGA, and I was hammered
(01:09:05):
every day. Hey, can we get around joy everything? Hey,
I have a Christopher being relatable bo how about that
I had connections. I had connections. Meanwhile, I can't even
play Golden Tea without putting a dollar in and losing
seventy five cents on it. But you've got connections to
the USGA, so you can go to the these golf events. Well, look,
(01:09:26):
open bar. What can I say?
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
And look, if you're one of those people that likes
to follow around the crowd like you like to just
it's for me. Like, if you want to go there
and have a couple of drinks, that's fun. I just
like following around golfers is not fun. But if you
remember the Pittsburgh Penguins back in the day, you know
you got to indulge and have a couple of cocktails
while you were there, so that when I think of
the us OPEN, I want to apologize to love Big
(01:09:49):
I butchered your last name. But it'll never happen again.
It probably will, but you won't be listening anyways and
waxing poetically about the greatness of the us OPEN. I
did want to mention this because there some people that
are still bothered and think this is like an easy
fix and an easy solution. They think that like every
time there's a gambling issue that pops up, that we
(01:10:10):
just have to like throw the book at them, like, God,
we can't have any of this stuff, Like no, we've
got to make any It's like you want to make
an example of everybody there's And the reason I bring
that up is because there's an empire umpire who is apparently,
like was under investigation. They were looking into, you know,
potential gambling violations. Like people see that and they just
(01:10:33):
automatically assume that this guy must have been betting on games,
Like they must automatically assume he's betting on games and
because of that, he's throwing games, when the reality is
it could have been at spring training and maybe he
bet on another sporting event. But he wasn't allowed to
do it in the facility, which to me should not
(01:10:58):
matter whatsoever at all. And if you want to know
whether or not somebody's gambling on games, if you can
track everything nowadays, wouldn't you be able to track that?
Like I can understand why you would want to make
an example of somebody who was really actually gambling on games,
But as we've seen, there's not that many of those examples.
(01:11:21):
Like Johntay Porter's a different level that's justified. Johntay Porter
was intentionally missing shots because he was in debt to
a bookie. Like that's a problem, okay, you know, like
that's a that's a that's a little bit of an issue.
But if somebody's in the facility and you know they're
(01:11:42):
playing you know, online Texas hold'em, or they're you know,
they're they're betting on you know, a horse race or
an NBA game, or there's so like you know or
like you know a college basketball dude, if it was
spring training, this guy could have been betting on an
NCAA tournament game. What does that have to do with
his job as an umpire? It shouldn't matter. So like
(01:12:06):
when everyone wants to just do the easy part and
just on the surface say no, no, no, no. If
you have anything to do with gambling, if you're gambling
on anything, throw the book at him. Oh okay, all right,
So that's what we're gonna do, because if that's what
we're doing, you're gonna be there a long time. You
think players, if they wanted to, couldn't gamble on a game.
You think players, if they wanted to, don't have a
(01:12:28):
conversation with a buddy or two who says, hey, man,
you know I got you on my fantasy team. What's
it looking like this week? Well, I wouldn't play me
because we're gonna split carries. You don't think that's ever
not that's ever happened before, Like you think that's just
like this is the first this stuff has ever popped up.
So when I see people get up in arms about
this or freak out in panic, I go, dude, you're
not looking at it realistically. Stop being naive. There's an
(01:12:51):
element of this that has always been there. Just because
you got a couple of bad apples like Johntay Porter
who's intentionally missing shots because he's in gambling debt, doesn't mean,
everybody's that bad. Jonas Knox here, Fox Sports Radio at
the Jonas Knox at the Jonas Knox on Twitter. Coming
up next here from the tire rack dot Com Studios, though,

Major League Baseball, you name it. They've got every angle
(01:13:53):
on all of it. Coming up here again a little
over twelve minutes from now. Here's to make sure you
stick around for that always a fun listen. A reminder
before we get to the scraps, and we close up
shop here on a Saturday afternoon that shortly after the show,
our podcast will be going up. So if you've missed
any of today's show, including whether or not Aaron Rodgers
(01:14:15):

your podcasts. Be sure to also follow rate and review
the pod. Again. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcast. You'll see this show posted right after
we get off the air.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
Jonas, how could you not get to these stories?
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Moron? These are the scraps, and for that we turn
it over to Bo Benson, our executive producer, to find
out what the hell we've missed so far on the show.
Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
Bo.
Speaker 7 (01:14:48):
Bengals wide receiver t Higgins has indeed signed his franchise tender,
so he'll be participating in training camp and such, although
a long term deal to stay in Cincinnati is viewed
as a long shot. Per Adam Schefter, you have that this.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
Felt like this is where this was headed. Like I look, man,
I the more I think about the Bengals because I
like him to win the division. That was my pick.
You know, probably about a month ago, I was like,
I like the But the more that Joe Burrow talks
about his injury and his recovery front, the more I'm.
Speaker 7 (01:15:20):
Like, it's a little interesting to hear im say football mortality.
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Yeah, Like I hear that, and I go, he's starting
about like these dark times and all that, And I
just go, well, like, what the hell happened? Like because this,
you know, like it's not like this run of the mill,
like we've seen him suffer injuries before, Like I don't
know if he's actually gone through a full training camp healthy,
like I think, you know, he's always had something pop
up since he's come into the NFL, And the way
(01:15:46):
he talks, I go, well, that's a bummer. And then
with T Higgins, like the Jamar Chase is their guy,
they're going to figure out, you know, that'll be the
one that gets done and he's going to be their
long term and T Higgins you're just hoping for a
big year so you can cash in when you can
become a free agent next year. And then with Joe
Burrow talking about his injury and his recovery, I'm like, dude,
(01:16:06):
this just has me It has costs for concern for
me about the Bengals this year.
Speaker 7 (01:16:09):
Yeah, it's a little weird.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
It's a little weird, little odd. So. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:16:13):
While the the Atlanta Falcons did not escape penalty for
their tampering with Kirk Cousins and I think two other guys,
the Eagles were totally exonerated by the NFL and their
tampering investigation as they looked into the signing of running
back Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
The NFL tampering stuff is so lame. Yeah, like it
really is. I look at it and I go like,
isn't everybody tampering like it at some level?
Speaker 7 (01:16:40):
Yeah, I mean all it is now is like, you know,
the price of reaching out to a player early. If
you're telling me that all it takes is a fifth
round pick and I can talk to like whatever star
quarterback hits for agency next like and that's that's all
I gotta do, all right, Sure, I'll do that, no problem.
Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
And Also, if Kirk Cousins doesn't say anything at the
press com, it's nothing. Probably happened somebody they tried to say, Well,
it was you know, Darnell Mooney and Charlie Warner. They
were also it's like okay, stop, yeah, like this it is.
It is kind of funny though that you know, the
Falcons risked so much because they had to have Kirk
Cousins only to draft his replacement.
Speaker 7 (01:17:15):
Did you see they turned down a fourth round pick
from the Bears just to move up one spot so
they could for sure get Odeon's so oh really yeah, yeah,
that was a thing. This week. The Ryan Poles called
the Falcons just to offer a fourth round pick to
move up one spot, and they said no, oh geez, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Well, I mean, look, you know, but they'll sell it.
Is well, if you have conviction in your guy, if
that's your guy, that's your guys. Okay, well, I mean
now we get to see how it plays out. But
you know, the guy that you already replaced, you know,
at least within the next couple of years. You it
costs you two hundred and fifty grand or three hundred
grand of you count the GM fine and a fifth
round pick.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
It's just odd how that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
Stuff works, very weird.
Speaker 7 (01:17:55):
So the Los Angeles Lakers are continuing their head coaching search.
They will report it. Bring in JJ Reddick for an
interview this weekend. The funny thing about this, though, is
just the slap fight in the media between Shams, Serranie
and Adrian rojen Rowski. It's been a pleasure to watch.
I hope it continues. I love it so much.
Speaker 2 (01:18:13):
But now, so Woj had the Danny Hurley side, yeah,
because nobody else had Yeah. And I mean so Scham's
had JJ Redick as the front runner like a week
before that, and then Woj comes out of nowhere with
Dan Hurley. And then also you have to keep in
mind that Woj literally wrote the book on Dan Hurley,
so it's interesting that he was the one that had
(01:18:35):
that and everybody in Lakerland was like, well, I haven't
heard that at all, and then yeah, it went the
way it went, and then Sham's just started taking shots
at Woj in the media this week. It's been a joy.
And I was talking, we were talking about it last
week on the show, and I was like, the way
that it was reported last Thursday was this as if
it was a dundee. Yeah, like it was imminent, like oh,
(01:18:55):
he's just basically he's going to come to town sign
the deal and then he's gonna be there because we
broke into the show like with breaking news and We're like, oh,
nobody saw it, Like yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:19:04):
Which was funny too because people were trashing shams for
the way he worded his jj Reddick report and Woe's
worded his Hurley Report the same exact way.
Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
It just it's like the whole thing, it didn't make sense.
And then as it went on and it got to Saturday,
and then Sunday, it was like, well, he was gonna
make his decision tomorrow. I'm like, oh, he's staying. Yeah, Yeah,
he's definitely staying. There's no way he's taking the gig.
Speaker 7 (01:19:25):
Now, Yeah, what a what a saga?
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (01:19:28):
So we've been talking about the chupacabra siding in Bolivia,
and I do have a friend of mine that claims
to have seen a chupacabra in San Diego. He was
driving late at night and he saw something akin to
a monkey bolt across the road.
Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:19:45):
And he swore that it was a cheop ofcabra, and
I'm inclined to believe him. So we have multiple chubicabra
sidings in the world, and that's my chupcappa story. Okay,
But now, was it near the San Diego Zoo? I
don't know, But you know, it could have been an
escaped monkey. That's possible, but I think we'd heard about that.
But I believe him. The Chupacabra's real. Look I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
I mean, I'll say this right now. I hope all
of it's real. I hope Bigfoot's real. I hope all
of it's real. Like to me, I'm not upset about
having to go back and like reinvestigate. My education as
