Speaker 1 (00:00):
I have to have better stop from the beginning.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Jonas Knocks, you thought you knew me. You didn't know
any thing about me. He's crazier than a else. Wrecked
that guy, Jonas Knocks.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
You heard me, the friends, some darkness is lighting up
your speakers to establish an alibi for the day. No
Live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Here's Jonas Knocks.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yep, okay, I'll reporting this world. You know it could
(00:48):
always be worse, all right, That is a simple philosophy
to have it could always be worse. I will explain
why that applies to what is currently going on in
the world of football today, and that'll be yours coming
up here in just a couple of moments. From that,
Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio. You can listen to this
show as always on the iHeartRadio app. You can find
us on hundreds of affiliates all across the country and
(01:11):
wherever you are making us a part of your Saturday,
we appreciate you doing so. We'll be taking you on
this two hour journey all the way up until four
pm Eastern time, one o'clock Pacific. And you know, I
think we can all acknowledge that it's become kind of
a process to watch sports these days, Like there's so
(01:36):
many different twists and turns to try and get to
where you need to go. There's so many. You got
to have this provider, and you've got to have this
streaming service, and you've got to have that, and the
remote is used for this, and the remote is used
for that. And look, ultimately somebody's going to figure out
how to bundle all this stuff together, throw it in
(01:57):
one easy to do app or site, and then we're
just off and running. And maybe one of those exists.
Maybe one of those exists illegally. I have no idea,
But I say all this to say Dennis Dodd of
CBS covers college football, he actually might have been the one.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
God.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
He might have been. I don't want to, I don't
want to call anybody out and give away bad information,
but he might have been. Somebody from CBS was the
one who said that if college players played during COVID
there would be deaths involved. So for what it's worth,
you know, to take that for what it's worth. But
he sent out a tweet earlier today that said the following,
(02:43):
FYI to watch all the FBS games today, you'd need, ABC, Fox, CBS, CBS,
Sports Network, ESPN, ESPN two, ESPN plus SEC Network plus ESPN,
u F S one, Paramount, Peacock, HBX, YouTube, True TV, TNT,
Spectrum Sports, Big Ten Network, SEC Network, SEC Network plus
(03:06):
ACC Network, Mountain West Network, the CW NETWORKNEC Front Row.
According to NCAA dot com, that's a lot of initials. Okay,
that is a lot of initials to give out on
(03:27):
live national radio. It's also kind of a variation of
how to bitch about something that really isn't that much
of an issue. Right, let me tell you what would
be a real issue. A real issue is games on
can't watch it? Like imagine living in a region and
(03:51):
in that region, you can't watch the teams that play
in that region because well, the only network provider you
have doesn't.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
That was called the PAC twelve network, all right, and
that was largely what led to the dismantling of the
PAC twelve. Now they've somehow figured it out and they've
scraped together enough change enough spare change to throw some
teams in a conference and call themselves a PAC twelve.
But the point is it could always be worse. So
(04:20):
I get it. I understand, you got to jump through
a lot of hoops. Look, I'm not crazy about it either,
all right, Like remember the good old day. I can
remember the good old days not having a remote. I
also remember having a remote that a parrot chewed. Swear
to God on that that's a true story. We had
a parrot. He was like a greet like a macaw
(04:43):
or something like that. For some reason we had this thing.
He was basically a rat with wings. And the parrot's
name was Buddy, and Buddy liked to get out of
the cage, unlock the door himself, and then crawl around
trying to chew things. And one of the things he
liked to chew was the rubber buttons on the remote.
(05:03):
So there would be times growing up we wouldn't have
a remote, so you'd have to do it by hand.
All because this fat bastard decided, you know what, I'm
done with eating the peanuts or whatever else you guys
through in the cage. Here the sunflower seeds, I'm not interested.
I'm gonna go ahead and chew that. So you can't
change the channels from the couch. You've got to actually
get up and do it yourself. We've been through a
(05:26):
lot as sports fans. There was times where we couldn't
watch any of this stuff all right, there were times
where you didn't know what was going on. Hey, don't
tell me, I'm t vowing the game until I get home.
The point is, yes, it's a little bit of a process,
but it could always be worse. All of these games
(05:46):
you want to watch, it would almost be impossible to
watch at a certain era and nowadays, Yeah, you got
to jump through a couple of hoops, you got to
pay a few bucks, but you know what, it's worth
the investment. It's like the NFL package. Every time the
NFL package comes out, people will either complain about the
(06:08):
price or it's too much and they're gouging us, and
it's like, yeah, what are you gonna do? Hey, red
zones back, but they've got ads. Now this is disgusting. Yeah,
and what are you going to do about it? Not
a damn thing. They got you by the balls. You
know you're gonna watch College football's kind of the same thing.
You're going to have to go to different places to
try and get what you want. But if you want
(06:29):
it that bad, you're gonna make it happen. So while
we can sit here and complain about all the different
places we've got to go to try and watch college
football and try and enjoy everything on a Saturday, just
remember it could always be worse. At the Jonas Knocks
on x At Jonas Knock Show on Instagram, you can
hang out with us as always on the iHeartRadio app.
(06:49):
All right, So we are, for some reason, still trying
to explain away what has been done and a mistake
that has been made in the world of football, right,
and the person still trying to explain away this mistake
is none other than Jerry Jones. So, Jerry Jones, I
(07:12):
don't know if you heard the news. He decided to
trade away his best player, uh, because they wanted to
improve their run defense Mexico. Yeah, listen, Jerry, I'm with you, man,
I will trust me. I was yelling at my wedding.
I got it, I got it.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Am I still on line.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
But Jerry Jones decided. You know what, I'm not done
explaining this, okay. I need people to understand that there
was a larger plan in place when I made the
move that nobody could figure out. So here he was
Jerry Jones trying to explain away on one oh five
(07:50):
to three the fan in Dallas, why the trade of
Micah Parsons gives the Cowboys a better opportunity at winning
a Super Bowl with dak Press as.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Opposed to herschel Walker, which was to basically get the
graph picks and was deal divided up very carefully. The
others don't get it because there's a there's a pool
of dollars and so you've got to divide it up
very carefully, and that's the that is the art of
the deal. So this as opposed to herschel Walker, which
(08:24):
was to basically get the graph picks and was basically
a recognition that we will compete on another day. This
was not that. This was a very conscious trade to
get three, four, five, six players for one, which will
be better off the one player outstanding. He's an outstanding player,
(08:46):
but we should be able to get as a matter
of fact, we've got one on the field. And of
course people say, but he's no Micah. Well, I'm not
going to debate that at all, because Micah is very
very special. But I'll tell you this, like now, by
the time this happens, and as we look forward to
Dax's time when we made his contract and we looked forward,
(09:08):
this was the best way to maximize our chance to
get a Super Bowl for Dak.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Jesus Christ. Fuck like this is. This is the equivalent
to me catching my son opening up a bag of
chips when he's not supposed to and me asking him,
why did you open up that bag of chips? I didn't.
I thought that there was like there was this, there
(09:39):
was something and what it dropped and and so I
wanted to make sure that none of the chips were broken,
and so I opened the top just to peekins. Dude,
what are we doing here? We got it? What are
we doing here? Jerry? At some point, at some point,
somebody's got a pull aside and say, hey, just tell
(10:00):
people you don't want to talk about it anymore. Just
tell people you don't want to talk about it anymore.
Like this is, We're not to the point to where
trying to explain it away why you've done what you've done,
and it's already over. We have all the information, we've
got all the intel. When this many people are saying
(10:21):
one thing and the other person is still trying to
explain the big picture view on a move they made
that's not going to pan out, And in fact, all
it did was make the team that you traded the
guy too, even better. And by the way, the Packers
look like the best team in the league. At some point,
somebody's got to pull Jerry Jones aside and just be like,
(10:42):
hey man, we should probably move on dude. Like it
just you know, it's like I tell my son, like, hey, listen,
you can try and explain this away all you want,
Like you open up something that you weren't supposed to do,
just admit it and ask next time. That's it. That's it.
Let's just let's stop. Let's stop trying to overcorrect everything.
(11:04):
Let's stop trying to explain it all the way. It
was a mistake.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
You made a.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Mistake, you didn't get a deal done, you burn the bridge,
you let your ego get involved, whatever you want to
call it. And now because of that, Michaeh Parsons is
on the Packers and it looks like he might be
playing for a Super Bowl at the end of this
whole thing. That's really where we're at. But Jerry Jones
is doing these interviews to oh, trust me, there's a plan.
We've got a plan. There's a plan here. Yeah, was
(11:31):
there a plan with Mike McCarthy too? Do you have
a plan with Mike McCarthy? What was the plan with
Mike McCarthy. You wanted to bring him back as head coach?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Right?
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Where is he? Like?
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Where?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
I mean, what happened there? Like you wanted MICHAEH. Parsons
to be a cowboy. You've said it before. What happened?
So Like, at some point, somebody's just got to be like,
all right enough, we're good here, We're all good. Can
we please just move on? They've got Micah Parsons, they
look pretty good. We've got Kenny Clark, and we're still
celebrating the fact that we only lost by four after
(12:07):
Jalen Carter was kicked out of a game for spinning
on one of our players. Let's just do that at
the Jonas Knox on x at Jonas Knox Show on
Instagram and you can hang out with us as always
on the iHeartRadio app. By the way, we are going
to have the usuals coming up later on. We do
have another edition of Do You Care later this hour.
We've also got our TGFG Game of the Week and
(12:28):
the week two edition of Knox Locks a lot of
explaining to do with that one. That was not exactly
the debut we were looking for, all right. That was
the Miami Dolphins version of gambling in week one what
Knox Locks put together. But nonetheless, that'll be yours later
on the show. Also, we're going to check in agreed,
but we're going to check in on location boots on
(12:50):
the ground and potentially drunken boots on the ground at
a college football game that could be shaping up to
be a classic later on today. All of that is
yours here again on this two hour extravaganza. Up next though,
on the show, we are going to tell you how
somebody explained it exactly how it should be said. Unfortunately,
(13:15):
people are still gonna make the same mistakes. That's yours
right here on FSR.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
All right, First off, Jonas Knox can suck it.

Speaker 6 (13:49):
It's me three time Pro Bowl of Levararrington and I
couldn't be more excited to announce a podcast called Up
on Game.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
What is up on Game?
Speaker 6 (13:57):
You asked, along with my fellow pro bowler TJ. Hutchman,
Zada and Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right, Plexico Birds.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me Lebar Arrington, TJ. Hutchman, Zada,
(14:20):
and Plexico Burds on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or

Speaker 2 (14:27):
From Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio. By the way, coming
up a little over ten minutes from now, it is
the week two installment of our tg FG Game of
the Week and I got news for you. I think
it involves a team that won't be featured ever again
(14:51):
this year in the TGFG Game of the Week in
the NFL. Right, a little bit of a spoiler alert
for you if you will, or a tease as the people,
the fine folks and broadcasting will tell you. So that'll
be yours here again coming up a little over ten
minutes from now. So, for some reason it takes certain
(15:15):
people to explain something that should be fairly obvious, and
yet for some reason people on the outside or other
people will still continue to follow down the same path.
It's just it's I mean it really it actually is
borderline impressive. What I mean by that is this, there's
(15:37):
a lot of conversation about quarterbacks in the NFL and
young quarterbacks and when they're developing, and who's a success
and who's a bust, and who's this and who's and
you know, a lot of this has come up because
you know, this is a big year obviously for guys
like Caleb Williams, it's a big year for Drake May.
(15:59):
And you think you kind of have an answer on
Jaden Daniels based on his rookie season, but then you
see what happened to c J. Stroud in year two
as opposed to year one. Like there's just you know,
it's an imperfect science, Like there's no like we can
all sit here and say, oh, well, well, such and
such as the goods, but then if you go through
(16:20):
quarterbacks who are saw like bow Knicks for example. I mean,
there's a lot of people looked at bow Knicks last
year and we're like, man, he was really really impressive.
And then you know you look at week one and
you're like, h you know, sophomore slump has been thrown
out there. You know, what do you do with cam Ward? Like,
there's just these discussions come up. Jackson Dart, you know,
he looks the part. You know, when is he going
(16:41):
to get an opportunity? But these discussions continue to come up.
And so Tom Brady was on the Herd, which you
can hear on many of these Fox Sports radio affiliates,
and he asked a very simple question to Colin about
how we judge quarterback play in the NFL. Let's take
(17:03):
a listen.
Speaker 7 (17:04):
There's a lot of people who have no idea what
they're doing when they're tasked with coaching a quarterback or
calling an offense. So are you saying, I mean, just
like we'd rank quarterbacks one to thirty two, do you
rank offensive coordinators one to thirty two? Do you rank
quarterback coaches one to thirty two? Well, what if you
had the thirty second ranked coordinator in someone's mind with
the thirty second.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Ranked quarterback coach.
Speaker 7 (17:27):
How is he getting a level of development that the
guy who's first is.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Getting and he's one hundred percent correct, And yet for
some reason this is still going on. For some reason,
the way we view quarterbacks and how successful quarterbacks are
is all based on just the quarterback, and well, you know,
maybe there's some surrounding pieces that are kind of a
(17:52):
key ingredient to the whole success of things. Maybe there's
some pieces surrounding a quarterback that you look at and go, yay,
you know what, if you had a little bit more
of that, maybe you'd have a little bit more of this,
And yet we won't apply that. We know, like, like
this is obvious to anybody that if you have a
(18:12):
successful foundation around you, that it's going to increase your
odds of success. We know that, like this is fundamental,
basic day one stuff that you learn put yourself in
a position to succeed, and by doing that, you're going
to give yourself and a better opportunity to do so.
(18:38):
And the analogy I always make is, look, you could
have I mean, men, you spend a bunch of money
on a pool table, but the foundation is falling apart,
like what's the you know what I mean? Like, what
are we talking about?
Speaker 4 (18:50):
Man?
Speaker 2 (18:51):
We've got the nicest kitchen on the block. Yeah, what
about the foundation? How long is that going to stay up?
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Right? For? Man?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
What a what a? What a front yard and backyard
we got We just put in a new pool. Yeah,
but the insid's falling apart. So what are we looking
at here? And if we know all this, everybody knows this,
and it doesn't take just quarterback play. It doesn't take
you know, sports, it doesn't take you know this. Everybody's
worked at a place or in an environment where you
(19:17):
don't feel like you are being put in a position
to succeed. Everybody's been there. Everybody's worked in a place to
where there's turnover with management, there's this the direction you're
getting is confusing, etc. You're not put in a position
to succeed. Everybody knows that. It's not an excuse. This
is a real thing. And yet for some reason, the
(19:39):
way that we view quarterbacks is black and white. No, no, nah,
he's the goods. He's not na no, no, this guy's
And then you'll see examples that will come up in
recent years and you'll go, well, well, maybe not. Baker
Mayfield's a perfect example. Baker Mayfield was the guy who
the Cleveland Brown and said we're good. They based their
(20:04):
opinion and their future of the franchise at quarterback on
an injury plagued season. He had to bounce around to Carolina,
then to the Rams, then he gets to Tampa Bay
and he's one of the better quarterbacks in the conference.
It's been fantastic. He's been fantastic, and the team that
(20:26):
drafted him one overall said dah no, no, no, yeah,
this isn't working for us. Sam Darnold just got paid.
Why because he showed up in a system after all
these years and was given an opportunity, and they actually
looked at it and said, you know what, why don't
we build around you. Let's build up to your strengths.
(20:47):
Let's actually give you some direction. I mean, you saw
what Kevin O'Connell did on Monday Night with JJ McCarthy.
JJ McCarthy wasn't good. They weren't good the first three
quarters of that game. They won that game because Kevin
O'Connell just stayed course, stayed the course, kept with this guy,
and they figured out a way to win that game.
And JJ McCarthy was the best quarterback on the field
(21:10):
down the stretch. So Tom Brady said, did you hear
him explain that? And you go, yeah, why don't we do?
And we don't do that because we can't let go
of the fact that it's just easier. It's easier to
just say this guy's a bust, that guy's good. That okay,
But what goes into that, like, there is some nuance
that goes into what makes you a successful quarterback? So
(21:33):
Tom Brady continues on and he talks about, Hey, what
did you have in New England as far as your
development that made you successful?
Speaker 7 (21:44):
When I got to the Patriots, I sat behind Drew
who was a franchise quarterback. Right in my second year,
it's training camp and we had a very good quarterback
coach named Dick Raybne and God rest his soul. Unfortunately
he passed away in training camp and of a heart attack,
and it was a very difficult loss.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
For our team.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
And the way that we found a way to continue
on that season is Bill Belichick became more of a
quarterback coach than we ever imagine him being a quarterback coach.
He was a defensive he was obviously a head coach
very involved in defensive game planning, but he decided to
come in every week and talk to the quarterbacks about coverage.
(22:30):
All right, guys, and he would do these big write
ups and they still have moll because I kept everything, Tom.
This is cover one. This is how they play it.
This is who we're responsible for who. Okay, if we
line up in a bunch formation, this is how they're
going to handle the bunch formation. This is why they
do that. This is the weakness of that, why they
do that. You shouldn't do this if this is how
they cover this. Okay, this is Cover two. This is
(22:51):
how they cover this is they play two variations that
Cover two when they're in this variation. This is what
they're trund' stop when they're in this various This is
what they're trund stop.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (22:59):
This is this is how this team uniquely plays couple four.
We shouldn't line up in this formation to try to
run this concept for one year. I had for actually
more years beyond that.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
That's how I.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
Developed and learned. Oh defense calls a certain play. This
is how we can We can put him in this
formation and they can back the coverage off and I'll
have a short thrown reasons.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Oh great, I love that.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Let's do that.
Speaker 7 (23:22):
Nobody is getting that type of development.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
And he's right. And yet for some reason we continue
down the same old tired discussion. This guy's a bus
to this guy can't hack it, this guy's this, and
we rushed to judgment, and within a year or two
we decide whether or not that guy can play, or
whether he can. The good news is you're starting to
(23:47):
see a little bit of a turn, Like you're starting
to see people in the NFL go, hold on, was
it him or was it them? Was it that guy
or was it those guys? Eno Smith, we mentioned Baker Mayfield,
we mentioned Sam Darnold. Like you start to look around
and you go, wait a second, I got news for
(24:08):
you. You might see it coming up tomorrow and you might
see it for the next couple of weeks with mac Jones.
Mac Jones is going to get the start for Kyle
Shanahan and the forty nine ers. If you remember back
when the draft was happening in twenty twenty one, Mac
Jones was the guy reportedly that Kyle Shanahan wanted to draft.
(24:32):
They tried to swing in a miss. They thought they
had a deal for Aaron Rodgers, it didn't work out.
They were looking to draft a quarterback and reportedly it
was Kyle Shanahan that wanted mac Jones. John Lynch wanted
Trey Lance. They went with Trey Lance, and the rest
is history. Rock Perty's there, He's not, and so all
(24:53):
of a sudden, Mac Jones comes available and Kyle Shanahan
gets his guy. You need to tell me you're not
fascinated to see what that looks like. When, by the
the way, the last time mac Jones had a competent
play caller, he was a pro bowler. When Josh McDaniels
WASZC in New England, he was a pro bowler as
a rookie. They went to the playoffs. So when you
(25:18):
hear Brady break down, listen, are we ranking coordinators and
systems And by the way, here's what I got to
work with and how I developed. When you hear him
break it down like that, more and more people in
the NFL are starting to realize, well, yeah, like, maybe
we should apply that, Maybe we should implement that. The
problem is people on the outside don't have the patients.
(25:41):
They know the patients. Caleb Williams is one game into
a new system, and people are like, oh god, never mind,
lost cause lost cause everybody, Dude, We're one game in.
It's a brand new system, but nobody has the patience
for it. May be nowadays things will start to pick
(26:03):
up to where quarterbacks are going to get real opportunities
in a real system, and maybe instead of judging them,
you'll judge the guys that are trying to develop them.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
It over to Martin waiz So Jonas.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
The following schools have a more than thirty point lead
in the second half of their games.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Today.
Speaker 8 (26:49):
Oregon over Northwestern, the fourth three team the nation, playing
on ranked Northwestern thirteenth ranks, Oklahoma playing Temple, nineteenthrank to
Alabama playing Wisconsin, twenty three ranked Michigan playing Central Michigan,
and Missouri almost makes the cut, thirty five to ten
to score Missouri over Louisiana with just over two minutes
(27:13):
left in the first half. At the half, Auburn has
a twenty eight to nine lead over South Alabama. Everything
is a blowout thus far in the top twenty five
except Dabo Sweeney and the Clemson Tigers again in another
noon dog fight. It is fourteen to thirteen against Georgia Tech.
Right now Georgia Tech undefeated on the season, Clemson one
(27:35):
in one. Clemson, a twelve ranked team in the nation,
just punted away to Georgia Tech, who just failed on
a fourth and one. Listen, Haines King is not a
professional football player, but he is one of the like
he should be in the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame.
It feels like because this guy, he's been at Georgia
Tech forever. First of all, it feels like but also
too like he just plays ball, man, he just plays ball.
(27:59):
He's got thirteen for twenty one right now, one forty
six through the air, fifteen on the ground, fifteen carries
fifty eight yards rushing thus far with the long as seventeen.
I know it's only four yards to carry, but it's
one of those things you got to see it to
really understand it.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
You know, the bottom of the first Jenny.
Speaker 8 (28:15):
Right now the Cubs and the Rays are scoreless, and
Jonas by.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
The way, I don't think Haynes King. I don't think
Haynes King has a touchdown throw on the year.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
That would not surprise me at all.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
I think it's all like every every touchdown he has
is a rushing touchdown. I don't think he's throwing a
touchdown this year.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
Let's see here.
Speaker 8 (28:32):
Undefeated thus far on the season. Yes, in a twenty
and a twenty seven to twenty win over Colorado, he
had one hundred and forty three yards passing on thirteen
completions twenty attempts one interception with a long pass of
twenty seven come into it. But nineteen carries one hundred
and fifty six yards with a longer forty five and
(28:54):
three of them things on the ground. I mean, listen again,
my man is going to be doing something. We're going
a pro and something other the NFL. But enjoy it
now and I hope they close.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Yeah, why not? Good for him. Let's go live to
our I've got something insider Chris profet for the latest Chris.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
That probably makes his coach Brent Key very happy.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Mister, run the ball. That is the entire identity of
Georgia Tech.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
I've never been more Georgia tach than this Georgia Tech team.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Because then then when he does drop back to throw
a pass, is like, oh no, it's like but it's
like the Army Navy game whatever, it's like a third
and long. I get excited thinking and how's this gonna go?
Because any like they could go any direction they could,
they could end up, you know, completing the pass. It
could be a surprise, a trick run play, it could
be an interception. So but hey, he's undefeated. Man, he's undefeated.
(29:44):
And there they're battle in Clemson right now.
Speaker 8 (29:45):
Got a national title, one of the team's favorite for
the national title at the start of the year.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
He's got the ball down by one fourth quarter. Start,
let's get a baby.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Run the ball. There you go? Uh, thank you, Martin.
It is Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports Radio at
the Jonas Knock on x at the Jonas Knox and Xtion.
You can also follow on on Instagram at Jonas Knox Show.
Coming up in we'll call it about twelve minutes from now,
we are going to have another edition of Do You Care?
That will be yours here on FSR. But right now,
it's time for the Week two edition of something we
(30:14):
do on the show where we like to pay our
respects to maybe a matchup in the league, a matchup
around the NFL that isn't getting the love that it deserves.
Because while you could probably sit here and say, well,
who cares about that game, we present to you our
TGFG Game of the Week and our TGFG Game of
(30:34):
the Week for Week two in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Goes two.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Panthers ed Cardinals. Oh that's right, that's right. Welcome aboard
the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals. Now, if I'm
not mistaken, the Arizona Cardinals were featured last week against
the New Orleans Saints. I said it a week ago.
New Orleans is going to be prominently featured in our
TGFG Game of the Week because they are awful. But
(31:01):
I believe this is going to be the last time
the Arizona Cardinals are featured, because I think the Arizona
Cardinals could end up being a sneaky contender in the
NFC West. I mean, look, the Niners are dealing with injuries.
We just documented the brock Purty injury. George Kittle's gonna
miss some time. Who the hell knows With Christian McCaffrey,
I mean, it seems like something pops up all the
time every.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Year with him.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
So you've got that the La Rams are hanging on
by a thread, just fingers crossed they can get through
the season with Matthew Stafford healthy and is back in place.
And then you got the Seattle Seahawks, which just feel like,
you know, they're kind of in no man's land. And
so here you go. You got the Arizona Cardinals just
kind of sitting there, just kind of quietly waiting in
(31:42):
the wings to strike, and they're being featured here in
week two. And I'm saying it right now, probably the
last time. As for Carolina, probably not the last time.
Probably not the last time at all. Carolina. As much
as I like Bryce Young, as much as I like
Dave Canalis, that feels like a ticking time bomb. At
some point, David Tepper is gonna step in. He's gonna
put his hand down, he's gonna put his foot down,
(32:04):
and he's probably gonna make somebody turn their hat around
or take their hat off when he walks into a
diner if they're making jokes about him on the sign
out in front of the place, like he did a
couple of years ago there in Carolina. So with that
being said, you've got the Panthers, You've got the Cardinals.
They are a Week two TGFG game of the Week,
Thank god for gambling. Game of the Week is if
not for gambling, nobody's probably watching this, but you won't
(32:27):
be watching the Cardinals throughout the course of the year.
They're a sneaky team. Watch out for Kyler Murray and company.
All Right, Jonas knocks here on Fox Sports Radio. Up next,
we are going to have a Saturday tradition. It is
always at this time and it's yours another edition of
Do You Care Here on FSR. Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio,
coming up top of next hour. We'll call it a
(32:50):
little over fifteen minutes from now. There is a trend
in the world of football that is not very nice.
To one team. Not very nice at all to one team.
We will get into that for you here again, coming
up a little over fifteen minutes from now. Yeah, it
is blowout central everywhere you look in the world of
(33:10):
college football right now, it is just, by and large,
everybody's getting wiped out. As Martin wise pointed out a
short time ago, Oregon's got a thirty four to nothing
lead over Northwestern. Oklahoma's up forty two to three on Temple,
Alabama's up thirty eight to fourteen on Wisconsin. Michigan's up
(33:33):
sixty two to three on Central Michigan. It's just this
is not nice, not nice whatsoever. Thankfully, Clemson is doing
their part to be underwhelming to start out the year.
They are now trailing twenty one to fourteen at Georgia Tech.
So that is a game to watch. We will keep
(33:54):
you up to speed as to whether or not Clemson
is on upset alert against Georgia Tech. Currently trailing right
now in Atlanta with about ten minutes left to go
in the game there at twenty one to fourteen, So
we'll keep you posting on that throughout the course of
the show. Speaking of this show, right now, it is
time to do something we do every single week on
this show, and it's time for this.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
There are so many stories in the world of sports,
and most of them are a complete waste of time.
Dmzre reports, let's get kinky. Here's some of the big
stories from the last week. But Jonas, the real question
is do you care?
Speaker 2 (34:30):
And for that we turn it over to our executive producer,
bo ben Sit to find out what the hell people
are talking about.
Speaker 9 (34:35):
Bo I just want to say before we get started.
As a young person growing up as an Oklahoma fan,
if you had ever told me at any point that
they would be leading a team forty two to three
and only giving up three points, I would have called
you a liar. It's insane to see Oklahoma play defense.
So brat venables man, I know a little time. I
know a little time. But he might have himself a quarterback. Yeah,
(34:57):
and he might have himself a defense interest.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
So to watch.
Speaker 9 (35:00):
Situation monitor, Another situation to monitor. The Miami Dolphins are
reportedly not planning to trade wide receivers Tyreek Hill. Jonas,
do you care?
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (35:09):
I do?
Speaker 2 (35:10):
I love it. I am listen man. Thanks for unraveling
real quick in Miami and look they may not be
planning to trade Tyreek Hill because teams may not be
planning to trade for Tyreek Hill because there's allegations of
domestic abuse against Tyreek Hill again. So you know, this
is one of those Well you know, I'm not doing
(35:32):
it because you told me too. I'm doing it because
I don't want to do it. It's okay, all right,
like like it's my choice, It's okay, all right, sure, sure,
whatever you say. Bottom line is, they've got a big
game against New England, and if they lose this game
against a team they've dominated over the past few years,
especially at home, the chance and the calls for people's
(35:54):
jobs and moves to be made are going to get
louder and louder in South Florida.
Speaker 9 (35:58):
Next, the New England Patriot's have sent former second round
pick Jalen Polk to the Saints for a sixth round pick.
Jonas Do you care?
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Not really?
Speaker 10 (36:07):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (36:08):
You know what's interesting about this he's on ir He's
not playing this year.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
So like.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
I'm trying to figure out what New Orleans is doing,
you know, like it's like one of those teams that's
out of the playoff race and they'll make a deadline
deal in baseball and you're like, wait, what, Like, I
remember years ago the Pittsburgh Pirates did this. I think
it was a guy. I think it was either Terry.
I think was Terry moleholand the Pirates were completely out
of the playoff race, nowhere within striking distance, and at
(36:42):
the deadline made a move and gave up prospects for
Terry Mouhol. And everyone's like, why for what the back
half of the season, you know, to start big games
down the stretch. What was it like, did you have
a bunch of bobblehead games coming up down the stretch.
He wanted to make sure he was out there, try
and get him a win. It just it didn't make
any sense. This one doesn't make any sense. But you know,
(37:05):
maybe it'll bounce back next year and be a strong
addition to the New Orleans Saints next Well.
Speaker 9 (37:09):
Jonas, it brings me no pleasure to report this, but
Clippers owner Steve Bomber reportedly made another ten million dollar
investment in the company Aspiration, while the co chair of
the Clippers made an investment of about I think one
point seventy five million dollars. Shortly before a payment was
made to Kawhi Leonard, which was back to Jonas do
you care?
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Not? Really?
Speaker 2 (37:31):
I think I kind of none of what the Clippers
are saying makes sense. The evidence feels like it's starting
to mount up, and I think we just got to
get to the point to where it's like, all right,
what's the punishment, you know, like wh who's getting punished?
And also seeing how Mark Cuban came out and defended
(37:52):
Steve Bomber right away before having any sort of other
information to go along with it, defended him right away,
I'm wondering how many owners and the NBA are looking
around going, God, please don't look into mine, you docounts.
I just broke like, hey, and Britain, look, I'm not
spreading misinformation, but you know, there was rumblings about what
(38:14):
was going on in New England, you know, when certain players,
prominent players were taking lower level deals to remain with
the team. Like it's just you know, it's I feel
like this is a lot more prevalent, but somebody's got
to be made an example of, and it seems like
Steve Bomber and the Clippers are going to be that team.
Speaker 9 (38:33):
Next The GM for the Chicago Sky shut down any
idea of the team moving on from Angel Reese after
her late season comments Jonas, do you care.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Oh god, no, no, not at all.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Yeah, I have. There's just zero, zero interest whatsoever. I
think I saw a graphic on TV where they were
showing I think the playoffs and the w NBA are
starting now. Like I think they're starting the playoffs at
some point soon. And boy, nothing screams brilliant planning, like
having your playoffs in the middle of football season. That's
(39:06):
man Like, they really they really got that one together.
This is like the NBA coming up with ways to
not impact a player's field goal percentage if he throws
up a half court shot. You know, that'll fix things.
Like it's just it's so nickel and dime. And just
to see those two leagues and where they're at, they
just feel like they're so far away from competing with
(39:26):
the NFL. So, I mean, Angel Reese, you know, like
whatever the Chicago what are they shoot the Chicago clouds?
Speaker 9 (39:35):
What are they the clouds yet in the sky?
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Okay, well listen, you know, if you've got one of
those jerseys, you can hold onto it for a little
bit longer, because apparently she's not going anywhere next.
Speaker 9 (39:46):
U c LA got blown out last night by New
Mexico in front of absolutely nobody.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
Jonas, do you care?
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Yeah, I actually do.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Then I shouldn't.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
This is nice.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
This is not nice, Like I don't have any ill
will towards the UCLA football program. It's a clown show.
And then look and it's not you know, and you
gotta be careful what you say because Deshaun Foster might
might take away your media credentials or something like that.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
It just.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
There's a reason why Chip Kelly was like, eh, I'm good.
Oh no, no, no, no, they were going to fire him.
Oh okay, okay, yeah, that's like a homeless guy telling
you you need to get better clothes. Let the go.
Oh thank you, sir, thank you. I appreciate it. What
(40:40):
is that long sleeve shirt you got? Oh, never mind,
it's just the holes cut in the bottom of long socks.
Speaker 7 (40:45):
The cool.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
But I'll take fashion advice from you like UCLA like, oh, well,
we were gonna fire Chip Kelly if he didn't step no, no, no.
He looked around and realized, oh, we're going nowhere, and
We're going nowhere in a hurry. I'll take my business elsewhere.
All go be a coordinator and then be a coordinator
again over having to deal with that mess. But the
good news is nobody was there to even see it,
(41:08):
and they can pump up those numbers all they want.
There was nobody there to see it, and God bless
them for not showing up. You know, there's some not
so nice trends in the world of sports. I think
this would qualify as one. We'll get into that for
you coming up here in just a couple of moments
from now, Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio. You can hang
out with us as always on the iHeartRadio app. You
can find us on hundreds of affiliates all across the country.
(41:31):
Wherever you are making us a part of your Saturday,
we appreciate you doing so, as we take you all
the way up until the end of this hour four
pm Eastern time, one o'clock Pacific. We are all monitoring
in the midst of blowouts everywhere in the world of
college football. We are all monitoring a potential upset. As
(41:51):
Martin Weiss mentioned, three minutes and change to go in
Atlanta and Georgia, Tech as a twenty one to fourteen
lead Overclaben. Clemson does have a first and goal looking
to try and draw even with Georgia Tech here and
they have scored and so the extra point will be pending.
(42:11):
But that is the game to watch in the world
of college football right now as far as a potential upset.
One of the other games in college football that's kind
of interesting is, first of all, Josh Heipel has done
an incredible job at Tennessee and they've only lost one
game at home since he's been there. That one game
(42:34):
was to the Georgia Bulldogs, and Georgia's rattled off eight
straight wins over Tennessee, which is not ideal. And this
is one of those games where George is a slight
favorite coming in and you know, ut is going to
be all fired up. They're going to be all gassed up.
People are going to be partying as part of the
(42:54):
tailgate tour there for Fox Sports Radio. People are going
to be tearing down the place getting ready for this game.
And if for some reason they end up coming up short,
that is going to be a really rough place to
be afterwards. Like that's one of those ones. If George
scores early and takes an early lead, or they go
up by double digits. You'll be able to hear the
(43:18):
air leave the building like you will be able to
hear people gasp and realize, oh god, this is just
the way this is going to go again like this.
And there are certain places that are like that where
you know all the conversation going into it before the
game starts, before they kick off, you know exactly how
it's going to go. And then when you get there
and it plays out exactly like it's done the last
eight times, the air is gonna leave the building and
(43:43):
it's gonna it's a fascinating watch if you're not a
Tennessee fan, But if you are a Tennessee fan, that's
gonna be agony because you're gonna realize, oh, here we
go again, Here we go again, like this, this is
playing out exactly like it's all played. It's different, like
even look Ohio statements, Michigan is different because Michigan's got
(44:04):
this thing over Ohio State, and they've got this thing
over Ohio State and it just continues on and continues on.
But there's so much bad blood there that there's no
real opportunity to be optimistic or hyped up about these games.
Even if Ohio State, if Michigan could lose every single
game leading up into the finale against Ohio State and
Ohio State's not going to feel comfortable about it, Tennessee
(44:28):
fans have hope because yeah, they're rivals, but it's not
the same kind of rivalry, and they're like, no, no, no,
but this time we're going to get them. No, no, no,
they We're really going to get them this time. And
then if Georgia goes out and scores a couple of
touchdowns early and goes up fourteen to nothing, all that
hope's gone. And it's a fascinating thing to watch. And
I've talked about this before. When you are at a
(44:49):
place where the stress level comes through the television, or
you're watching a place where the stress level comes through
the television, it is amazing viewing amazing. It's like, you know,
having access to a ring camera outside of Morgue. It
is an amazing feeling just to sit there and watch that.
(45:11):
So that'll be the big game coming up later on,
involving Tennessee, involving Georgia. That is also a part of
the Fox Sports Radio Tailgate Lore a tailgate Tour. It's
live right now in Knoxville leading up to the Georgia
Tennessee game today and by the way, twenty sixth year
of the Tailgate Tour, traveling to the biggest games in
the country each Saturday. Check out Tailgate Tour dot com
(45:34):
for your chance to win a ton of prizes, including
tickets to the National Championship Game. You can check out
the schedule for where the Tailgate Tour will be next
Saturday and throughout the season. Again, it's Tailgate Tour dot com,
or check it out on Instagram and Facebook at the
Tailgate Tour. Something pretty awesome just happened a few moments ago.
(45:55):
So Anthony Rizzo, longtime Major League Baseball player, announced his
retirement officially, and he's being he's brought back to Wrigley
Field and he's retiring as a cub. And so he
comes back to Wrigley Field. He's gonna retire a cub.
They're doing the whole celebration. He throws out the first pitch,
(46:16):
he does you know the whole you know the whole
uh song and dance and people love Anthony Rizzoi. He's
part of the world series team like ended up with
the Yankees to finish out his career, but everybody knows
him as a Cub, so he comes back. He's retiring
as a Cub. It's a celebration. He decides, I want
to go into the bleachers, So after he throws out
the first pitch, he goes and sits in the bleachers.
(46:41):
He's drinking a beer with the fans. Moyses Balasteros, who's
a rookie who just got called up by the Cubs,
hits a home run into the bleachers that literally hits
off Anthony Rizzo's left hand. He had the ball in
his hand and it ended up bouncing away. If he
(47:03):
would have had a glove with him, he would have
made the catch. Everything would have been fine. But imagine
that guy goes back, retires as a Cub, throws out
the first pitch, sits in the bleachers, and a guy
hits his first career home run and it literally hits
off his hand and somebody else's got the souvenir and
he throws it back out there so the guy can
(47:23):
keep his home run ball, the first ever of his career.
So a pretty cool moment out there in Chicago. Up
the road in Chicago. Not a cool moment for a
Northwestern who got absolutely annihilated by Oregon, absolutely annihilated by Oregon,
or they're getting annihilator right now. Thirty four to fourteen
is the score there in a game where it looked
(47:44):
like Northwestern wasn't going to score at all. Whether it
was impacting that game, there's a minute forty eight to
go on Fox, and Brady Quinn made a point that
I think kind of gets lost in the shuffle when
we're talking about Oregon. But people forget how good Oregon
was last year because you just look at what happened
(48:06):
between Oregon and Ohio State in the playoff game, and
you go, oh, well, yeah, like that's you know, I mean, listen,
like they can't hang. They got exposed. It was at
the Rose Bowl. It was just a bad scene all
the way around. They're not on the same level or
(48:26):
the same playing field as Ohio State, et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera. And then you start to look back at
last year and you go, wait, that was their only
loss and they had already beatn Ohio State earlier in
the year, and Oregon's one of those teams that just
kind of kind of floating around, kind of circling around people,
(48:48):
maybe sleeping on them a little bit, maybe looking at
you know, looking elsewhere when it come they won that
conference last year, Like, let's not forget that. And so
when you see just kind of the conversations about an
Oregon we mentioned Georgia Tennessee early. When you see the
conversations about Georgia, George is one of those teams. And
(49:10):
this will happen in sports, this will happen in fighting,
this will happen. George is one of those teams that
was so good for so long that people sort of
get used to it, and you kind of get accustomed
to it and you look at them and you go,
oh yeah, I mean they're great. So what you know,
(49:31):
like George's lost like a couple of games in three
four years, and that sort of gets glossed over because
of how dominant they were. And so when you watch
Georgia conversations or you watch Oregon conversations, they're just a
couple of those teams that are just kids just kind
of floating around. We're just kind of, you know, just
(49:54):
kind of kind of staying in the mix, just kind
of maybe not really getting discussed as potential, you know,
national championship contenders, maybe not really getting discussed as teams
that you know that the people are looking at is
as really being able to make an impact or make it.
And Georgia's the example of that. Oregon's another team where
(50:14):
you look at them and you go, well, that's kind
of you know, I mean, you kind of look at
Oregon and you think about, well, they got exposed in
the in the playoff game, and it's like, yeah, they
got exposed, exposed against a team that was playing the
best of any team in college football at that point.
Nobody wanted to see Ohio State, but that was their
only loss and they had already beaten Ohio State earlier
(50:36):
in the year. So they ran into a juggernaut. They
ran into a wood chipper and that's why that game
played out the way that it did. And as far
as Georgia goes, if they go in there and they
just do what they do against Tennessee the last eight
years and they win that game, george is going to
be one of those teams you just kind of gloss
over and go, oh, yeah they're great, Yeah they're great. No, No,
(50:59):
there we're talking and historically great, we're talking hadn't lost
a game in three years. Great. So all these teams
kind of on the periphery are sitting around just sort
of staying in the mix, staying afloat. Those are teams
that could have an impact, especially with the expansion of
the college football Playoffs into the twelve team format. Coming
(51:20):
up later on this year. By the way, quick update
for you from Atlanta where the game is tied between
Clemson and Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech has the ball.
It's twenty one to twenty one, two point fifty and
change left to go in that game, and Haines King
with the ball for Georgia Tech as they're trying to
pull off the upset against the Clemson Tigers there at home.
(51:41):
So we'll keep you posting on that throughout the course
of the show. All right, Jonas Knox here on FSR.
Coming up next here on the show, there's a game
in the NFL this weekend that can only be defined
as the piss and Vinegar game. Find out who it is. Next,
we don't need to bring Jonas in. Jonas Knox, Fox
(52:03):
Sports Radio, so we will have another edition of Knox
Locks coming up here later on this hour. Kind of
a troubling open to Knox Locks for twenty twenty five.
But you know what, man, there's a lot of quitters,
a lot of quitters out there. We refuse to be
one of those. We will get into that for you
later on this hour. Quick update for you from Atlanta,
(52:27):
where right now Georgia Tech and Clemson are all tied
at twenty one apiece. Georgia Tech had a lead, Clemson
drove down, scored and tied the game at twenty one apiece.
And so now with forty seconds left to go and
the game tied, we're potentially going to over to add
(52:52):
about midfield between Georgia Tech's got the football. If you've
been paying any attention to this show throughout the course
of the we were pointing out how Haines King, the
quarterback for Georgia Tech, does not have a throwing touchdown
this year, but he is all about that grind and
all about that running the football can take a hit,
and so it doesn't seem like Georgia Tech's got a
(53:14):
ton of options as far as getting the ball downfield
other than rushing the football. But Haines King does have
the ball on second and seven forty seconds left to
go there at the Clemson forty two yard line as
Georgia Tech tries to continue driving the football and get
into field goal range. So we will keep you posting
(53:35):
on that. Martin Wise will have all the updates on
that throughout the course of the show, so so make
sure you stick around for that. We'll have that for
you here on FSR. By the way, with the iHeartRadio app,
you can stream us wherever you happen to be. Catch
us in all of our Fox Sports Radio shows live
twenty four to seven in the new and improved iHeart
Radio app. Search Fox Sports Radio in the app to
stream us live all day every day. Be sure to
(53:56):
selack Fox Sports Radios. What are your presets? In the
iHeart apps will always up up at the top of
your screen. So we have a game this weekend in
the NFL that is filled with piss and vinegar. All right,
I'm not talking about the Browns and the Ravens, right,
I'm not talking about Grant Delpit saying hey man, you
(54:16):
know it's easy to take Derrick Henry down. I'm not
talking about Jerry Judy saying nothing about the Ravens secondary concerns. Sam,
I'm not like none of that stuff. And by the way,
this is that's not a knock on the Cleveland Browns.
I actually admire the fact that the Browns as an
eleven and a half point underdog against a team who
you know is going to be pissed off and have
(54:38):
a red ass about how their game against Buffalo concluded.
I like the fact that the Browns are like, no, no, no, no,
f that we're gonna talk. We're gonna talk, We're gonna
stir things up because what have we got to lose.
I love that approach. But there's one game in the
NFL this weekend that is full of piss and vinegar
Bears Lions one Eastern Time on Fox.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
Now.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
You're probably thinking, what is it? Because Dan Campbell had
some comments. I mean, Dan Campbell started things nicely. Dan Campbell,
the head coach of the Detroit Lions, talked about his
relationship with Ben Johnson and then concluded with basically calling
a shot.
Speaker 4 (55:19):
Ben's my friend. He's always going to be my friend,
you know.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
But but nothing about that's going to change.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
You know. We're going in getting ready to play Chicago.
Speaker 4 (55:29):
We're gonna win this game, you know we have to.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
Okay, so basically calling a shot, we're gonna win this game,
all right. Now, You've got on the other side, Ben Johnson,
the head coach of the Chicago Bears, who's uh getting
a little bit fed up about having to hear about
what happened on Monday night as he gets ready to
(55:52):
play his former team.
Speaker 5 (55:54):
I want to ask, but the kickoff one more time?
Speaker 4 (55:58):
I mean, can we go on in the next game.
Speaker 1 (56:00):
I'm still on.
Speaker 4 (56:03):
With the new rules.
Speaker 5 (56:04):
When it doesn't land in the landing.
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Zone, it's a dead ball, right, So theoretically, could you
just kicked.
Speaker 10 (56:10):
It anywhere just short more than twenty in the clock
would have stopped?
Speaker 5 (56:14):
Was that considered at all?
Speaker 4 (56:16):
Yeah? Yeah, it was. Yep.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
Listen, last time, I'm going to bring up last game.
Speaker 4 (56:20):
Okay, I got greedy and wanted the extra five yards.
Speaker 7 (56:23):
That's why we tried to kick it out of the
back of the end zone, as simple as that.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
So you've got Dan Campbell, You've got Ben Johnson, You've
got even Kelvin Shephard, the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions,
being is being asked about his matchup against the Chicago Bears,
and he had this to say, what has been the
greatest strength is a play caller everything?
Speaker 5 (56:48):
Next question, how much are you just looking forward to
the chess match that this Sunday is going to be.
Speaker 10 (56:54):
I'm looking forward to seeing our players respond off of
a loss. I could care lest who's calling the plays,
who's over? There was the scenario? What the media wants
to make this out to be. We are coming off
of loss, ladies and gentlemen. I'm looking forward to seeing
not only our players but our coaches respond coming off
of a loss.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
Oh, this is just gonna be glorious. Ah, this is
This is the piss and vinegar Bowl we've been waiting
for to kick off the NFL season. This is what
you needed, all right, because listen, Dan Campbell's basically saying
we have to win because he knows what the narrative is.
He knows what the discussion is. Detroit in week one
looked like they were way down the list of potential
(57:35):
contenders in the NFC to the Green Bay Packers, way
down the list, especially when you see what Green Bay
did in week two. So Dan Campbell's looking around, going
hold on a second like, we have to win this game.
And it's not just we have to win this game.
We're going to win this game because we need to.
We need a w We don't want to start out
owing to It's also because it is Ben Johnson. It's
(57:59):
because it's a guy who left there to go somewhere else.
And everybody's heard the noise, everybody's heard the discussion about, well,
you know, what are the Lions gonna be without Ben
Johnson and without Aaron Glenn. You don't think you'll think
Dan Campbell here's all that stuff. You don't think Dan
Campbell's looking around going, wait, hold on a second, I
hired those guys. This was my team, Like wait, wait wait,
(58:20):
this is like, this is my team. I hired those guys.
Those guys became head coaches. Because you don't think he
thinks that. You don't think he feels that, like he
doesn't have some ego attached to this. Of course he
does as he should. Dan Campbell's looking around and go,
whoa like you like, we understand what happened week one
(58:40):
and Ben's my front But no, no, no, we have to
win this game. I and basically I have to win
this game because there's already a discussion and narrative being written.
There's already one being written. You heard Kelvin Sheppard talk
about it.
Speaker 4 (58:52):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
I don't I don't care about any of these media
narratives that you guys are putting together. We're trying to respond,
we're trying to bounce back, and he he's got to
be the guy as the DC to do it against
Ben Johnson, the coordinator or the play caller in Chicago,
who was the coordinator in Detroit last year. You don't
think those guys are fired up about it. You don't
think Amanaras Saint Brown has got a red ass about
(59:14):
this matchup. And then the flip side, you don't think
Ben Johnson is sick and tired of being asked about
the final quarter of that game on Monday Night Football.
He owned it afterwards, and finally we get to Friday
and he's still having to talk about not kicking the
ball out of bounds. Everybody on both sides is pissed
(59:36):
off about what happened the week before, and as fate
would have it, they're going to run into each other
in week two. And I don't know if this was
brilliant planning or scheduling by the NFL or what they
did or they could read whatever it was. This is
the perfect matchup because you've got desperate coaches on both
(01:00:00):
sides trying to prove themselves and prove themselves to their acts.
Like we threw out the stat in the offseason. No
team has ever lost both coordinators and gone to a
Super Bowl. Dan Campbell knows that, Like we saw what happened.
Like we could sit here and talk about Philadelphia and
(01:00:20):
the Eagles and they're the best run organization. Man, it
wasn't that long ago people wanted to fire their head coach.
It wasn't that long ago Nick Sirianni. Everything had gone
off the rails, that went on a losing streak to
close out the year, and everyone's looking at Nick Sirianni going, yeah,
but he can't do it without his coordinators. Like Dan
Campbell hears that stuff like he knows what this is
(01:00:41):
all about. Like this is his first go with Dan
Campbell as the star getting all the credit for everything.
Like before, like a lot of the talk was Ben Johnson.
There's a reason why Jared Jared Goff. Same thing. All
the discussions about Jared goff Canny do it without Ben
Johnson and so so now Ben Johnson comes back home
(01:01:02):
and he's got to do it against a couple of coaches.
The defensive coordinator who just told you the mood he
was in and a head coach who just told you
they're going to win the game because they have to
win the game. And Ben Johnson is bringing what happened
less than a week ago back into Detroit. This is
going to be fascinating to watch because they can play
(01:01:24):
nice and they can talk about well, we're still going
to be friends and our relationships are good. No no, no, no,
no no no. You chose you left, and we're having
to hear what we are and what we're going to
be because you left. There is piss and vinegar to
(01:01:45):
the brim for this game coming up at one Eastern
time tomorrow on Fox, and I can't wait to check
it out at the Jonas Knocks on X at Jonas
Knox Show on Instagram and you can hang out with
us as always on the iHeartRadio app. All right, so
we are going to continue on the conversation from around
the NFL that'll be yours next year. But we do
have an upset in the world of college football to
(01:02:09):
report on, and for that we turn it over to
Martin Wise.
Speaker 4 (01:02:16):
You're absolutely right.
Speaker 8 (01:02:17):
Fifty five yards at the buzzer for Georgia Tech kicker
Aiden Beer, fifty five yards to tie for the longest
of program's history to go ahead and give the Clemson
Tigers their second loss, first in the ACC But as
of this playoff predictor thing, they have on the ESPN
five percent chance for Clemson to make the college football Playoff. Now, Jones,
(01:02:41):
we're three weeks in. We're three weeks into the season.
Five percent chance for a team that a lot of
people thought had a good shot at going played.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
Klubnik was fifteen for twenty six to two oh.
Speaker 8 (01:02:50):
Seven through the air touchdown in an interception. Clemson only
had Adam Randall eight to sixteen carriages for eighty six
yards to have a touchdown as well.
Speaker 4 (01:02:59):
Haynes Kingdom player of the game in my book, he had.
Speaker 8 (01:03:02):
Nineteen for twenty seven two sixteen rush to sixteen passing sorry,
and twenty five carries a one hundred and three yards
rushing quick math. That's two hundred and nineteen totally ember
three hundred nineteen total yards and a touchdown for Haines
King in the game in which they needed just.
Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
About every single point.
Speaker 8 (01:03:19):
Elsewhere in college football, there has not been much close.
Oklahoma with a forty two to three route of Temple
South Auburn has a thirty one to fifteen lead over
South Alabama with just under six minutes left in the
fourth quarter wrapping up the third quarter. Missouri, with a
forty five to ten lead over University of Louisiana earlier
(01:03:39):
in Northwestern Oregon made quick work at the Fourthwestern Alabama.
The same with Wisconsin and Michigan bouncing back from their
loss last week against Oklahoma with a sixty three to
three win over Central Michigan. In Major League Baseball, the
Cubs have a three to one lead over the Rays
and the Baltimore Orioles lead the Blue Jays.
Speaker 4 (01:03:58):
Two to nothing in the SEC and ending Jonas.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Back to you, thanks Martin. By the way, Martin, did
you see Anthony Rizzle nearly catch that ball in the outfield?
Speaker 8 (01:04:06):
I was, honestly, this is maybe just my cynicism and
and my I see too many things on the Internet,
but I was.
Speaker 4 (01:04:13):
Kind of mad you didn't catch it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
Yeah, I mean, you're a.
Speaker 4 (01:04:15):
Pro athlete are used to be. Maybe that's why he
hung him up.
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Now, I think that, you know, his glove hand was
his right hand, So I don't know if that's any excuse,
but maybe he learned, maybe he learned that those balls
are coming at him a little bit harder than he
expected with no with no glove on. But it is
it is pretty that's pretty amazing that he's out there
in the outfield and as it's hit right to him.
Speaker 8 (01:04:37):
Do you think that maybe he was worried because you
saw that video and that woman that ram down that
the dad and the sun. You know, you don't want
to with the foul with the at the home run ball.
Maybe he was like, I don't listen, I'm worth millions
out here, the bleacher creatures. I'm not about to start
any thing. I'll let somebody else catch this ball.
Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
But by the way, I defended that lady, you know,
I think I was the only one defender. I actually
had more criticisms and towards the dad, like that dad
got bitched on national TV in front of his son.
If some woman came over to me and said give
me that ball right now, I'd be like, if you're
out of your mind. Yeah, no chance, no chance.
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
It would not have gone the same way for me either.
Speaker 8 (01:05:18):
But I do think the funniest moment of that video
is the dad going up into like like it's not
it's definitely not put your dukes up, but he definitely
like put his arms up there like a.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
Who and then and then he just says, fine, you
can have it. It means more to you. No, you
keep that ball and you and say, oh and while
you're at it, go buy me a beer too, Like
you get out of here with this, Like he's got
to give the ball back. And then people are giving
him stuff like some guy gave him an RV or
something like. That guy got a free RV for being
a coward for quitting in front of his son.
Speaker 8 (01:05:50):
Yeah, I'm not not bad example. I agree.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Yeah, it's bad parenting. You know, it's terrible parenting. Wouldn't happen.
Let me tell you something. You hold on to those
those rawlings when you get a chance to right especially
some of these some of these people out here, they
go to games and there people are waiting around for bobbleheads.
You get an actual baseball. You got to hold onto
that thing, right those that's a that's a collector's item.
(01:06:15):
That Dad should never show his face at a stadium again.
By the way, at the Jonas Knox on Acts at
Jonas Knockshaw on Instagram, by the way, the tweets and
compliments are flooding in here. On the show, Rob rights
in Nico talking about Nico.
Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
At u c l A.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
At least he's getting paid millions for the utter embarrassment
that is u c l A. All Jonas Knox gets
is compensation in West Hollywood hogs and luscious asses to service.
Jason writes in you useless boordop bleep. You're such a
pathetic bleep. You're more irrelevant than the atrocity that is
(01:06:54):
UCLA football. You're not only a disgraceful d stain, but
an f boy bleep. At the Jonas Knox on X
At Jonas Knox Show on Instagram is where you can
follow along and have fun with everybody else who gets
to take part in all this. It's unbelievable. By the way,
(01:07:16):
the week two edition of Knox Locks will be will
be yours here at about twelve minutes from now here
on FSR, I did want to mention this and we
talked a little bit about this earlier. You know Tom
Brady's comments about quarterback development and what it's lacking in
today's NFL, and you know, are we talking about the coordinators,
(01:07:36):
are we talking about the surrounding pieces, are we talking
about you know, what they've done to provide support to
these quarterbacks so they can learn and grow and get
the right information, et cetera, et cetera. And so he
had a clip that viral on social media because he
was on with the Herd on Fox Sports Radio on Friday.
And one of the things that I'm really really interested
(01:07:57):
to watch this weekend in the NFL. And we mentioned
this and touched on a little bit earlier, but is
Mac Jones at New Orleans for the forty nine ers.
Brock Purty's out. He's got turf toe. Who knows how
long that's going to linger on for. He's also got
some sort of a shoulder issue that's popped up as
well too. And one of the things about brock Purty
(01:08:17):
is that he's dealt with some stuff injury wise. Obviously,
we know what happened in the playoff game against the Eagles.
We know that was a long recovery process. He got
dinged up a little bit last year. And I'm not
saying that this is going to result in the forty
nine ers if mac Jones goes out there and plays well,
Like a couple of things to keep in mind of.
(01:08:39):
One it's New Orleans, two it's the Saints. Like that's
a couple of things to keep in mind of, all right,
So it's not like he's playing the best top of
the top in the NFL this weekend in his debut
for the forty nine ers. But it is kind of
fascinating to see how everything sort of worked out the
way that Kyle Shannan was hoping that it was going
to work out. And it all goes back to the
(01:09:03):
Trey Lance draft pick. And look, I've said it from
the get go, I don't think Trey Lance got an actual,
real opportunity to be the quarterback with the forty nine ers.
They either saw enough in practice or saw enough in
camp and decided they were going to move on, because
you definitely didn't get an opportunity to really give him
(01:09:23):
a fair shake as a player in actual games. He
started a couple of games with the Niners, like as
a rookie, he filled in for Jimmy Garoppolo, and he
was just okay. And then when they labeled him the starter,
the no doubt starter, he opens up. The next year,
he's playing at Chicago. In Week one, there's a monsoon,
(01:09:46):
a literal monsoon. Nobody played well, and then the very
next week he breaks.
Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
His leg.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
And that was it. Literally was book was written like
he really didn't get an opportunity. And if you go
back to when he was drafted, the reports had always
alleged that when the Aaron Rodgers trade didn't work out,
that John Lynch was the guy who wanted Trey Lance,
but it was Kyle Shanahan who wanted mac Jones. Ultimately
(01:10:19):
they made the draft pick of Trey Lance. And Kyle
Shanahan has always thought highly of mac Jones. He thought
highly of mac Jones and talking about him all camp
this offseason. He talked highly of mac Jones this week
talking about practice. Like the players, they reportedly loved the guy,
like everybody loves the guy like Kyle Shannon loves And
(01:10:41):
the last time you heard Kyle Shannan talk like this
about a quarterback was Brock Purty. And again I'm not
saying this is going to result in some sort of
move at quarterback long term. I'm not saying this is
going to result in, you know, the forty nine ers
reversing course and just say, well, you know what, We'll
just but there is something there, Kyle. This isn't just
(01:11:06):
a well, you know, I'm kind of impressed with what
he did. No, Kyle Shanahan liked him years ago, and
to see Mac Jones ultimately finally end up with Kyle Shanahan,
I'm as curious as anybody to see how this looks,
because this is going to go into what we talked
about with the Tom Brady development stuff, where he's talking, man,
(01:11:26):
what are you doing to develop and help develop quarterbacks?
When Mac Jones had a guy in Josh McDaniels, which
you could say whatever you want about him as a
head coach, but talk to anybody in the NFL about coordinators,
quarterback developers. Josh McDaniels is really well respected. When Mac
Jones had him, he was a pro bowler, but he
(01:11:48):
played well, and so now all these years later, he's
got maybe the best in the business is Kyle Shanahan,
and he might get more than one week of an
opportunity to do this thing. So, look, I don't think
this is going to result in the Niners just paid
brock Purty. This isn't going to result in them making
a switch at quarterback or anything like that. But it
(01:12:09):
is kind of curious and kind of interesting how the
guy that Kyle Shanahan raved about all those years ago,
the guy that he's been talking about all off season,
is going to get his opportunity. And the last time
you heard him reportedly talk about a quarterback like this
was brock Purty. So at least something to watch, at
(01:12:30):
least something to pay attention for. And if Matt Jones
goes out tomorrow and throws three picks and the Niners
get beat, whatever, we'll take this entire segment out of
the podcast. But the point is, at least Kyle Shannan,
after all these years, finally gets his guy at the
Jonas Knox on X at Jonas Knox Show on Instagram
and you can find us as always on the iHeartRadio app.
(01:12:51):
Coming up next here though, it is the week two
edition of Knox Locks, and they're yours right here on FSR.
Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio by the way, coming up
top of next hour a little over twelve minutes from now,
Carmen Vitally Nicki Ka will be taking over these airwaves.
(01:13:14):
They'll have you covered on all college football NFL topics,
with a gazillion college football games going on, big time
NFL games coming up tomorrow as well too. We got
double We got a double header coming up on Monday
Night Football, So all sorts of a football conversation with
Carmen and Nicki coming up here a little over twelve
(01:13:36):
minutes from now. Also, by the way, Canelo Crawford coming
up later on tonight on Netflix. Please how about that?
See that's people don't understand how big that is for boxing.
The problem with boxing and with Dana White involved in
trying to promote boxing, You've got all these you know,
(01:13:56):
these boxing fanboys that like don't want to give up
the fact that box has been a disaster for a
long time. You've had a couple of guys that were
making money and a couple of guys that were willing
to put on big fights. But for the most part,
you had these promoters that were always going back and forth.
And now you've got Dana White and you've got Turk
al Chic from Saudi Arabia, who are helping to facilitate
(01:14:16):
and put together all these fights. And that was one
of the things that he did with the UFC that
turned the UFC into what it was to where it
was no longer well, so and so is not going
to fight so and so unless it's for the right price. No,
you fight for the UFC. If we want to make
that fight, we're going to make that fight. That's how
that's getting done. Yeah, but there's only one good fight.
(01:14:37):
The undercard sucks UFC undercards. There's a reason why people
are there from the first fight to the last. Watch
a boxing event. You ever notice if you watch an
undercard fight on a boxing event, there's nobody there because
everyone just shows up for the main event. And the
UFC they don't do that because they put on great
(01:14:58):
fights throughout the entirety of the car card. And so
these people that are like pushing back on Dana White
getting involved, have you not seen what has happened to
your sport and what he's done with the UFC. Have
you not seen it? Do you not get it? There's
a problem. Okay, if that guy steps in and he
wants to try and help, because he's a lot longtime
boxing fan. He was involved in boxing years and years.
(01:15:22):
If you want to step in and help, let him
step in and bring some new ideas, because the ones
that they've been trying to put up put together, the
ones I mean, Eddie Hearns tried his best to try
and make fights happen, but it's been a disaster for
the most part. So a Canelo Crawford taking place later
on tonight on Netflix should be a fun event to
watch as well too. All Right, if you've missed any
(01:15:44):
of today's show, you're gonna want to check out the podcast.
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast.
Right after the show, Today's pot will be posted. Be
sure to follow it rated five stars. You can even
provide a review.
Speaker 4 (01:15:55):
Again.
Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts.
You'll find today's full show posted right after we get
off the air. I will tweet out a link to
that at the Jonas Knox on x at Jonas Knox
Show on Instagram. But right now it's time for.
Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
This lock it. Let's lock it and no Knox Loucks.
Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
And you know what, some people aren't accountable. Some people
won't put their hand up and say I screw it up.
And then you get other people like myself and Ben
Johnson who are like, yeah, I made a mistake, You're right,
should have done that better. And so we start with
the Bengals and the Browns from last week. I thought
Cincinnati minus five felt good. You know, they were talking
(01:16:38):
about the strong start of the season. They wanted to
get out to The Bengals are talking about it's going
to be different this year, tired of these early season struggles.
The good news is they won the game. The bad
news is they didn't win by more than five, and
that's kind of a key ingredient to this whole thing.
So we started out with the loss there. The Atlanta
Falcons plus one and a half would have felt a
(01:17:01):
lot better. If Young way Ku could have made a
kick at the end would have felt better. It would
have felt better if the Atlanta defense could have stepped
up at some point late in that game. A Mecca
at Buka in his first game's got two touchdowns. That
was less than ideal. And then look, the Bears getting
a point and a half of Monday night football was
great for the first three quarters and then all of
(01:17:24):
a sudden, the fourth quarter started and It was just
a comedy of airs down the back end of that
game in Chicago on Monday night. So not the best
start in the world. Okay, zero to three, not great,
But you know what, Unlike a lot of people out there,
we bounce back, We get up off the stool, we
(01:17:48):
answer the bell, and we say bringing on for Week two.
Let's go Jaguars and Bengals, and we're going back to
the well. The Cincinnati Bengals minus three and a half.
This is one of those lines I look at and
I go, something must be up, all right, But I
refuse to just dismiss all the stuff that was being
(01:18:12):
talked by Zach Taylor and Joe Burrow and the Bengals
organization and everybody telling you this year is going to
be different, We're going to make strong starts. This year
is going to be different. I think that was kind
of underwhelming last week. If we're being honest here, you
can argue they probably should have lost that game to Cleveland.
I think they come back this week. I think they're
(01:18:34):
at home. I think they respond. Give me the Cincinnati
Bengals minus the three and a half at home against
the Jacksonville Jaguars. I too Eagles and Chiefs. So you
mean to tell me I'm getting a point and a
half at home with Patrick Mahomes as the quarterback. By default,
(01:18:58):
you have to take it. By default. You have to
take that. And the Eagles for all this talk about
the Eagles are the best team in football and this
and that. I mean, if we want to go back
to that game against the Dallas Cowboys, got a little
bit dicey there, and I know Jalen Carter spit on
Dak Prescott and he's a big part of the game plan,
and I get all that. But now they're going back home,
(01:19:19):
Now they're going on the road. They're going to face
the Chiefs. You know, the Chiefs are going to have
a point to prove, to show to everybody, Hey, we
still run this league. That Super Bowl was a one off.
So the fact that we've got all that in the backdrop,
and I've got Patrick Mahomes getting points at home or
a point and a half, I'll take Kansas City there
plus a point a half. Buccaneers said Texans. I'm going
(01:19:43):
to take the Texans minus two and a half. And
I'm going to take the Texans minus two and a half.
Of Monday, Night Football. I think they respond they were
struggling against the Rams last week. This is a home
game Tampa was fortunate to win last week at Atlanta.
Gimme Houston minus two and a half and that is
your week edition of Knox Locks. It's been a fun
one thanks to Martin, Chris and bow Here on FSR
(01:20:06):
shonas son of a Bitch.
