So if the show sounds a little bit different this
week as opposed to normal weeks, okay, if there's if
it seems like man, you know, there's like a commotion
in the background. Well, yeah, because we're in Columbia, South Carolina.
(01:03):
We're at the Graduate Hotel, the phenomenal stay here at
the Graduate Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina, home of the
South Carolina game Cock. So we have a big matchup
coming up later on tonight with Mississippi State, and we
were doing the show yesterday here. Obviously we've partnered up
with Graduate Hotels on two Pros and a Cup of Joe.
So we did the morning show yesterday with LeVar Arrington
(01:24):
and Brady Quinn. You guys have probably never heard of them,
but a couple of you know, Nicol and Dimers here
who were hanging out with me yesterday morning and the
Great Lab. Yeah, I have it either listen, So all
that is fair. So we're hanging out here in the South.
We're in South Carolina, the old stomping Grounds. My first
actual paid gig and radio, because there were several that weren't.
(01:45):
My first actual paid gig and radio was in South Carolina.
So it's good to be back here. It's good to
be at the Graduate and hang out and get to
be a part of all this because here in the
South they do things a little bit differently. I can
remember I've told this story before, but it bears repeating
because it is a night game coming up later on.
But I can remember years ago being with my girlfriend
(02:09):
at the time now wife at a Georgia South Carolina
game and we're out there tailgating and we're having a
good time in the parking lot, and then we're like,
all right, well, we got to go into the game
and actually watch this South Carolina Georgia matchup. It was
a couple of top twenty five teams at the time.
This was before Georgia was actually winning national championships and dominating,
(02:31):
even though they get buried in the headlines because Colorado
and Deon Sanders is getting all the love. And I
could recall being there in the parking lot getting ready
to walk into the stadium and they say, there's lightning
in the area. We're going to postpone the game for
another ninety minutes. So who thought that was a brilliant idea?
You know what? Send South Carolina and Georgia fans out
(02:52):
to the parking lot with with coolers full of booze
and let them get another ninety minutes a liquor in them.
Next thing, you know, the game kicks off an hour
and a half later, and it's banana Land. It's total chaos,
total commotion. And that is what this feels like, this
vibe in this area. And you're looking around college football
and you're saying, well, there's bigger matchups, there's bigger games.
(03:13):
But I'm telling you it's the one advantage college football has,
especially if you get a night game, or especially if
you get a big matchup that people anticipate, because you
come to places like this, you come to other spots
around the country and you realize it just is different
out here. It just is. And it's not to take
direct shot to anybody else. It's not to call out
(03:37):
you know, maybe some fan bases who don't want to
show up to games or don't want to rally and support,
but this is college football's big advantage. If you go
to an NFL game, there is kind of a I
don't know if corporate's the right word, but there's a
kind of a different vibe to an NFL game. NFL
games are fun, but there is a different vibe to it. Now,
(03:57):
depending on which NFL stadium you go to, you might
see a couple of people throw down. You know, they
get a couple of cocktails in him. They get pissed
off because somebody on their fantasy team, you know, ruptured
attending in his leg, And next thing you know, they're
thinking about all the money they spent on the fantasy
league and how much they lied to their wife about
how much it was going to impact their family's wealth.
(04:18):
And next thing you know, they're standing up in the
top row of the highest section in the stadium and
they're throwing down. Now, a lot of people would condemn
those people for throwing hands at a game, but to me,
there is something to watching I don't know, a Niners
game and some dudes wearing a Steve Bono throwback jersey
(04:39):
and he's lighting somebody else up. I'm not trying to
promote it, I'm not trying to glorify it, but it
does make you think back to the good old days. Well,
in college football, it's a different vibe. And yeah, people
might throw down in the stands of a stadium somewhere.
Yeah people might get after it, but there is a
different feel to all this. For example, a family feel,
(05:01):
a heartwarming feel. You know, something that you look at
and you go you know that that's what's nice about sports,
That's what's nice about gathering us all around. You know,
here's an example. Notre Dame Ohio State the game of
the day, some would say in college football that's coming
up later on. You're probably thinking to yourself, how's Notre
Dame going to welcome Buckeye fans into the stadium. How's
(05:23):
Notre Dame going to welcome Ohio State fans into the stadium?
What are they going to do? Are they Is it
going to be contentious? Are they going to like try
and pick fights in the parking lot beforehand? Are they
going to say, get the hell out of our state?
Go back to Ohio? This is Indiana, this is South Bend.
Go back to Columbus. By the way, there's a graduate
hotel in Columbus. Highly recommend that as well too. How
(05:45):
about that Sammy. A couple of shoutouts are graduate Hotels,
Sammy in attendance, the great Sammy from Graduate Hotels helping
us out here. But you're probably thinking to yourself, how's
Notre Dame going to welcome in Ohio State fans to
their stadium? You know, you want to be cordial. You
want to show those Midwestern values. It's a prestigious university.
(06:07):
You think about the Catholics and everything that goes along
with that. You walk on those hollowed grounds and there's
touchdown Jesus and there's just a different There's candles being
lit before the game. It's just a different vibe. You
almost feel like you're a church. So how are those
church going fans, the people who love college football, who
(06:27):
are all about respect, going to welcome in Ohio State.
They're not going to throw down like some of these
fans at the top of a stadium in an NFL game.
You know what they're going to do. They're going to
give them something. They're going to offer up something. They're
going to offer up a T shirt if you will.
You think that Notre Dame fans are going to be
(06:49):
gross about this rivalry with Ohio State. Absolutely not. You
want some evidence and some proof. There's a T shirt
going around welcoming Ohio State fans to South Bend and
that T shirt reads Jeffrey Dahmer went to Ohio State.
(07:09):
It's just fantastic. It's great, man. You wouldn't get that
kind of creativity at an NFL parking lot. There might
be some guy slinging something right around the corner from
a stadium. You pay seventy eight dollars for a T
shirt and he's like, I got a better deal for you.
I'll give this to you for fifty bucks. And you're like, dude,
you misspelled Kansas City. Yeah, don't worry about it. I'll
(07:31):
take off an extra five bucks. All right, that works.
I mean, at least I'm saving twenty five bucks. Even
though it says Kansas City with two s's at the end.
Makes you wonder what they were trying to get at.
Like that's what you would get in an NFL stadium.
You come to a college football atmosphere. You come to Columbia,
South Carolina, you come to South Bend, you go to Tuscaloosa,
(07:53):
you go to Columbus, you go to State College, you
go to Iowa City, you go to all those places
and you get heartwarming, family friendly content like Jeffrey Dahmer
went to Ohio State. That's what I'm talking about. So
while everybody sits here and look, I love the NFL,
love promoting the NFL. We talk the NFL constantly, and
(08:15):
we're going to talk a ton about the NFL. It's
never going anywhere. Sundays have changed for people, and it's
only gotten more popular because of gambling, because of fantasy football,
because of all that stuff, because of the built in
fan bases that come with NFL teams, and just the
history and everything that comes along with it. All of
that is outstanding, But when it comes to college football,
(08:38):
it is a different vibe through and through. You go
to a college campus. We're right on the campus of
South Carolina. Everybody's walking around, everybody's having a couple of cocktails,
everybody's having a couple of drinks. We had a fun
tailgate event with Graduate Hotels last night. People are playing
giant beer pong. Some people are skewing the rules a
(08:59):
little bit to try and give themselves multiple chances to win,
but that's a whole nother story. Don't worry. Fox Sports
Radio was well represented and we actually did end up
winning that beer pond game thanks to Lee and Sammy.
And then that's I think the last thing that we
remembers from the night. But again, Lee to Lap's gonna
lead to Lap and it's why we call him the
Big Lee Bowski. The point is, you come to places
(09:20):
like this, it gives you a different feeling and a
different appreciation for college football and everything that comes along
with it. And it's reason number two thousand, four hundred
and eighty eight that college football is number two and
has jumped and sped past the NBA for most popular
sports in this country. So can't recommend graduate hotels enough,
(09:40):
can't recommend getting out to a college football game, the atmosphere,
everything that comes along with it. But hey, if you
were gonna stay at home and watch it all, this
is a damn good day to do so, because there's
phenomenal matchups which we will touch on throughout the course
of this show. Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio. You

Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio Live from the Graduate Hotel

Every little detail as well too. Everything's a gamecock Like
the armrest of the chairs have little game cockheads coming
out everything. It's all around you. The Garnet and Black
(12:03):
place is tremendous. Can't recommend it enough, by the way.
Coming up in a little over ten minutes from now
from the ti raq dot com studios, we are going
to discuss a problem that the NFL has a little
bit of a problem, very problematic as a matter of fact.
Not the greatest start for a couple of things that
are happening in the NFL right now, but we will
get to that here. Coming up again a little over
(12:25):
ten minutes from now on FSR. So, there is a
full blown five alarm diaper fire in the National Football
League and it goes by the name of the Chicago Bears.
They are a disaster, and we talked about it last week.
(12:50):
It's hilarious because there was this assumption that, oh, well,
once Rogers is gone, everything's going to be fine. The
Vikings got rid of Dalvin Cook. They don't seem like
they're serious about it. Man, what are the Lions ever done?
They're not even a playoff team. What are the Detroit
Lions ever done? And so the Bears are sitting back there,
you know, licking their chops, going, this is our year.
(13:11):
This is our year. We've got our quarterback, We've got
you know, we pulled off a trade with it. You know,
we got a couple of first round picks. Next year,
we draft an offensive lineman. This is our year. And
they roll out a bucket of vomit through the first
two weeks of the season, and you're thinking, man, they
lose to Jordan Love and the Packers. You got Aaron
Rodgers texting him afterwards saying thank you for keeping ownership going.
(13:34):
You know, just just a knife in the heart again.
So you lose that game and you're like, okay, yeah,
but at least, you know what, at least we're going
to go down to Tampa Bay where Baker Mayfield's like
a retread journeyman quarterback at this point, and at least
we're going to make a statement there. No, absolutely not.
As a matter of fact, it might have been even worse,
poor play, poor decision making. Mike Evans, I mean, it's
(13:59):
so bad at Evans blatantly pushes off. It was the
worst case of offensive PI we've ever seen, and there
wasn't even a sniff of a flag being thrown. It's
just been terrible. And then you get to this week
and Justin Fields may or may not have called out
his offensive coordinator and his coaches, you know, Alan Williams,
(14:23):
their defensive coordinator. May or may not have had his
home rated by the FBI. There's some speculation as to
why that was. Still don't have any clear answers on that,
just rumors, and they're the bad stuff. Okay, the Bears
had to say no, the FBI was not at our facility.
Like that's how bad it is when your team is
(14:45):
trying to get ready for a game this weekend and
instead they've got to deny the reports that are out
that whether or not the FBI was at their team facility.
So that's all fun, that's all the fun stuff. So
all of that is happening here, All of that is
a backdrop to what has happened here. So man who's
building this organization, the man who's putting this organization together
and trying to get them back to the prestigious places
(15:06):
that they were. Even though people don't want to say
this and admit this, I think the Bears have what
five six playoff wins since nineteen eighty five, since that
Super Bowl team, It's been a little while, you know,
like coming up on forty years, five six playoff wins.
It's a little bit of a problem. But the point
(15:28):
is Ryan polls the GM listen. He acknowledges there's some
issues there with the team, but there's still also some optimism.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
We have adversity right now, slow start owing to not
where you want to be. We've dealt with life issues,
We've dealt with injuries, and that's all real and that's
a part of what we do and what we got.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
To deal with.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
The beautiful thing about our philosophy here, our organization is
where solution oriented. We work together to final these solutions
and solve our problems, to get everything back on track.
To make it really, really clear. You know, I know
the outside noise, but no one in our building's panicking.
No one's flinching at any situations, not our owner, not
(16:15):
our president, not our head coach, not myself, none of
our players. Everyone's focusing on solving the issues that we
have so that we can be a better football team.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
God man, that is listen, all about solutions. But at
least the storm is over and the worst part is
behind us. And then ABC seven in Chicago reports that
one hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment was stolen from
Soldier Field this week. Don't worry about it. It gets better.
(16:45):
At least you can play the game and get your
minds off all that stuff. Everything is going to be fine.
Let's just play the game with the Bears got this week,
you know, just the defending Super Bowl champions, and they're
like twelve thirteen point underdogs going on the road to
Kansas City. By the way, I'm surprised it's not a
hundred and twelve with how bad the Bears are. Like,
that's a steal. Consider that it is. Consider that part
(17:06):
of the one hundred thousand dollars that was stolen from
Soldier Field this week. So consider that. But we're not done.
It gets even better. Imagine this. Let's just go ahead
and do a little hypothetical here. I want to put
you in the place here and try and make things
so that we can all relate to this. I'm gonna
(17:28):
set up a scene for you. Just imagine you lost
your job, you had money stolen from you, everything around
you was performing poorly, you got dumped, you had your
home raided by the FBI. I mean, it is the
(17:49):
worst week of your entire life, the worst week of
your life. And while you're standing trying to catch a
bus because your car got repossessed, because you lost everything
after this FBI raid took place. Imagine, while you're standing
there at the bus stop waiting to catch a bus
next to some guy who just crawled out of a
(18:11):
sleeping bag that he pulled off. Somebody else who passed
out drunk in their own urine. Two streets up is
standing next to you waiting to ride the same bus.
While you're there at the stoplight, your ex pulls up
in a Ferrari. Matt Naggy is their ex head coach.
(18:32):
He was the guy who took all the blame for
their problems during a three to four year stretch, and
Matt Naggy is now the offensive coordinator for the Kansas
City Chiefs. So he's looking at his ex turned into
the disaster that he's turned into and what they've turned into.
And Matt Naggy looks over sitting in a ferrari and
he sees you next to a bum and a bunch
(18:55):
of other drug addicts at a bus stop, and he realizes,
oh god, I hit the lottery here. That is everything
that has happened around the Chicago Bears. And the fact
that Matt Naggy their X and the Kansas City Chiefs
are the team they've got to deal with coming up tomorrow.
Amongst all of this makes this even a better story,
(19:16):
makes it even that much more comical. And Ryan Poles
could say whatever he wants and we're looking forward and
we're going to rally around each other like this isn't
just all the drama off the field. There's problems on
the field too. You got injuries, they're starting. Left tackle
just went out, he got put on ir Everything is crumbling.
And I will say this and I will be accountable
(19:38):
for this much. I took a lot of potshots at
teams like the Arizona Cardinals, made a lot of jokes
about the Arizona Cardinals. There was like two or three
Cardinals fans because I think that's how many there are
in existence. There were like two and three Cardinals fans
who got upset and took to Twitter and got vocal
about all, you know, you're just just missing us, and
you know if Kyler Murray wasn't injured and blah blah
blah blah blah, and I took a lot of shots
(20:01):
and made a lot of jokes about it. And the
reality is the worst situation in the NFL right now
is the Chicago Bears. And it ain't close because the
one thing Arizona's got going for him because they haven't
won a game either, but damn they play hard. And
a lot of people made a lot of jokes about
Jonathan Gannon and made a lot of comments about man.
(20:24):
His pre his speeches in the locker room are weird,
and the way he interacts with players is weird. And
you know what happened in the Super Bowl. He was
too focused on the head coaching job there and it
costs the Eagles the Super Bowl and he's got to
be accountable for it. And they've got a bad roster,
and they bring in Josh Dobbs, who's been in Arizona
for like twenty minutes and has started both games for them,
but they play hard. They were in that game on
(20:47):
the road in Washington. They should have beat the Giants.
It's never okay to lose a twenty point lead, but
they were dominant in that game for majority of that game.
At least Arizona plays hard, and they seem like they've
got some sort of direction. The Bears are a mess.
They like there is no direction, there's no idea what
this is supposed to look like. And on top of
(21:09):
all that, you've got your defensive coordinator is home possibly
being raided by the FBI. Your head coach is scrambling
for answers now he's having to call plays, And meanwhile
your ex is sitting with Patrick Mahomes and a fat
Super Bowl ring on his hand, and he's looking over
going and you said I was the problem. I got
(21:30):
the blame for everything that went on there. That part
of this whole thing is the most hilarious part that
I don't think a lot of people have looked at.
Because if you don't think Matt Naggie's gonna have something
dialed up for them tomorrow, you are crazy. And Andy
Reid's gonna let him eet. That's the way that's gonna
work Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio, get me on Twitter
at the Jonas Knox at the Jonas Knox on Twitter,
and you can hang out with us as always on
(21:52):
the iHeartRadio app. So coming up next here from the
ti Raq dot com studios, we are going to discuss
a little bit of a problem in the National Football League.
We got some issues. There is a problem in the NFL.
We'll tell you what that is coming up here in
just a couple of moments from now. But for all
the latest from around the world of sports, Cold des
Ice Martin.
Speaker 6 (22:13):
Weis, Thanks Jonas. Two of the biggest programs in college football.
They're doing battle today. Number two Michigan just scored thirty
to seven lead over Rutgers extra point pending there. That's
Blake Korum's second touchdown on the day, a midway through
the third Oh, sorry, at the early in the fourth
quarter there in the Michigan Brook Rucords game. Number four
Florida State in a battle just a week after squeaking
(22:35):
by Boston College. The Seminoles right now trailing Clemson twenty
four to seventeen.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
That one in the third quarter.
Speaker 6 (22:41):
Number four, number sixteen Oklahoma has been dominating the season
against lesser opponents, but right now they're in the closest
contest of the year so far for them, seventeen to
six lead midway through the third quarter against Cincinnati Bearcats,
Texas A and M with a twenty to three lead
over Auburn midway through the third and in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Speaker 6 (23:01):
He's listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Rams.
He was a limited participant in yesterday's practice. Bengals also
signed a jam mcchaerren to the practice squad former Washington
Husky Jake Browning. It's lated to start if Burrow can't go.
Jonas back to you.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Thanks Martin. It is Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports Radio.
Coming up. We are going to have some fun here
on the show because a lot of people are like, man,
you know this show's too negative. You're pointing out too
many negative things going on. Well, don't worry about it.
We're going to get really positive on you. We're going
to tell you what was wrong with everything that you
heard about in sports radio and television, and that's coming
up in another edition of Do You Care in About
(23:36):
We'll call it fifteen minutes from now here on Fox
Sports Radio. So the NFL has got a little bit
of a problem. Okay, there's an issue. As Martin pointed
out in his update, seems like there's quite a few
quarterbacks that are a little banged up in the NFL.
It seems like we got a little bit of a
problem going on to the National Football League, which is
not ideal for a league that promotes the quarterback play
(23:58):
and the quarterback position is much as they do. Anthony Richardson,
hell of a talent, has not finished an NFL game yet.
That's a problem. Bryce Young, hell of a talent, hell
of a guy. Now he's going to miss some time
because he's dealing with an ankle issue. Joe Burrow's got
a calf issue. Aaron Rodgers is dealing with, you know,
(24:21):
the ruptured ACL that he suffered four plays into his
Jets career. Kind of a problem. Get a little bit
of an issue for the NFL when it comes to
the quarterback position. And so while everybody you know wants
to talk about, you know, all of these things that
we want to do to make the league safer, and
you add these new concussion helmets, you know, and these
(24:42):
these things that Tua has got to wear and Kenny
Pickett's gonna wear and all the things that you want
to do to try and improve the health and safety
of the NFL. The reality is what the reality is.
It's a violent game, and it's a violent game full
of car accidents, and you get into another of those
and you're gonna have some issues. And they can try
(25:03):
and safe this thing up all they want, and well,
we're gonna cut down on the number of preseason games
and we're gonna, you know, cut down on the number
of reps. And I don't know what the what the
recipe is for trying to avoid the injuries other than
the fact that you just have to come to the
realization that people are going to get hurt. It just
is what it is. Like you can try and safe
(25:24):
this up and add as much, you know, put you
put a bunch of stuff in to try and improve,
you know, the wellness of these players. And this this
is what the sport is. Guys are gonna get banged up,
Guys are gonna get injured. And you've got two young
players like a Bryce Young and an Anthony Richardson, Like,
what what's the reasoning there, well, Bryce Shung is too small, Okay, well,
(25:46):
Anthony Richardson isn't and they're both hurt. Like Bryce Hung
all acknowledge. I love Bryce Hung and everything you've heard
from anybody that's talked about Bryce Jung speaks glowingly about
the guy. That's why Carolina picked him number one one.
That's why they made sure to let everybody know he's
our starting quarterback. He's our franchise quarterback. But he is small,
(26:08):
and so now he's got this ankle issue that popped up.
You watched him on Monday Night football against the Saints
and you looked at it and you went, man, this
doesn't look good so far. And my big concern for
Bryce Young was never okay, well, he's got to light
up the league here. Like I was a little bit
bullish and said, okay, well, I think he might be
Rookie of the year. He's a quarterback. He'll be Rookie
of the year. And there's still some time. But Jon
(26:29):
Robinson has kind of let everybody know that there's a
reason why he was talked about as glowingly as he was,
and that seems like that's where the direction is going
to go. But with Bryce Young. We're two games in
and I'm like, Okay, I just hope he gets through
this season without taking too much damage. Just survives this season.
The old John Calipari quote about advancing in the tournament.
(26:52):
Just land the plane. We're not looking for anything fancy.
Just land the plane. We don't care how much you
win by at a certain point, you just got to
land the plane and get safe. And that's my expectations
and my what I want out of Bryce Shung is
just dude, just get through the season healthy. So there's
the example on one end. And then Anthony Richardson, who's
(27:14):
as big of a quarterback as we've seen come out
of the draft, all the physical tools you could ever want.
It hasn't finished a game yet. We're two games into
his career. So this isn't just a you can't take
that guy because he's too small, or you gotta do
this with the helmet and you got to try. And
guys are just gonna get hurt. You're playing at full
(27:35):
speed against savages. That's what's gonna Look at Nick Chubb,
look at the knee injuries suffered by Nick Chubb. People
are trying to claim, well, it was a dirty hit.
It was this that man. Nick Chubb's been as durable
as anybody. Nick Chubb came back from a devastating knee
injury in the same knee, if I'm not mistaken, and
(27:56):
it's been one of the most consistent running backs in
the NFL, and then on one play may have ruined
and ended his career. We're in South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina.
Anybody remember Marcus Lattimore. Marcus Lattimore was thought to be
one of the next great running back prospects that came in.
He was one of the hot top recruits in South
(28:16):
Carolina history. Steve Spurrier and the game Cocks were desperate
to get Marcus Lattimore had to have him. Everybody loved
the guy. He was a stud, never saw down in
the NFL. Was drafted, kind of gave him a shot,
but never saw down in the NFL because he got
injured multiple times in his college football career. His knee
(28:40):
got destroyed in a play, and he was never the
same player ever again and never really got back to
who he was. It's just what it is. So when
you see somebody like Aaron Rodgers go down with the
injury and you think back to guys like Brett Farb
and some of these other guys. It's amazing to see
certain players get through their career and have luck on
(29:01):
their side when it comes to injury. But these quarterback situations,
Burrow's got something that's popped up. And by the way,
Joe Burrow, dude, he's been banged up or had a
problem every single year of his career and he's one
of the he just got paid a grip. He's considered
one of the one of the top young quarterbacks in
the league. Completely changed the future of an organization, changed
(29:26):
the optics of an organization. And he's dealing with multiple injuries.
It's why when everybody thinks to throw out this, well,
we got to do this to be safer. We got
to do that to be safer. We got to cut
down on preseason games, we got to cut down on
practice reps. You gotta cut man. You can do whatever
you want, but the reality is what the reality is.
Guys are gonna get hurt. And you've got four starting
(29:47):
quarterbacks out of thirty two who two weeks into the
season either aren't playing or look like they're not going
to be playing. And that's a problem for the NFL,
but it's a problem that is the NFL, and it
ain't going anywhere fast Jonas Oxy or Fox Sports Radio.
You can get me on Twitter at the Jonas Knox
at the Jonas Knox on Twitter, and you can hang
out with us as always on the iHeartRadio app. All right,
(30:07):
it's coming up next here from the ti Raq dot
com studios, We're going to have ourselves a weekly tradition.
It's called do You Care. It's where we discuss several storylines, topics,
issues in the world of sports, and we tell you
whether or not they actually matter or whether or not
people were lying to you during the course of the week.
And it's yours right here on FSR Jonas Knox, Fox
(30:29):
Sports Radio. Quick update. In the world of college football,
we got a tie game Florida State and Clemson. The
pointspread would have indicated this is going to be a
close matchup between these two schools, and it looks like
that's exactly what we're getting here. Twenty four to twenty four,
just under thirteen minutes left to go in the fourth quarter.
(30:50):
There is number four Florida State is on the road
in Death Valley taking on Clemson, So we will keep
you posted on all of that and the how that
finishes up there with again twelve minutes to change left
to go, Florida State Clemson tied at twenty four piece
coming up here in we'll call it, let's call it
about fifteen minutes from now. There is sort of an
appropriate conclusion to something that's happening in the world of football.
(31:15):
This is appropriate. In fact, I would say it's the
most appropriate we've seen in a long long time. We'll
get into that for you again coming up top of
next hour here from the tiraq dot com studios. But
right now, it is time for a Saturday tradition every
single week at this time, and it's called this.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
There are so many stories in the world of sports,
and most of them are a complete waste of time
DMG reports. Let's get kinky. Here's some of the big
stories from the last week. But Jonas, the real question
is do you care?
Speaker 1 (31:48):
And for then we turn it over to our executive
producer Bo Benson to find out what the hell's going
on and what people have been talking about.
Speaker 6 (31:54):
Bo.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
Yeah, man, did you see how Florida State tied that game?
Speaker 1 (31:58):
I just know I was actually trying to find lead.
Speaker 7 (32:01):
Well, good luckily, I hope you're doing well. Florida State
defensive end absolutely crushed Cade club Nick force the fumble
and returned to himself. So one of the all time
plays this year so far.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
And so I'm assuming now, is that possibly going to
be our play of the day coming up later on
if we want?
Speaker 3 (32:20):
He could be.
Speaker 7 (32:21):
Yeah, it very well could be.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
It should be.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I wonder how that's I wonder how that sounds. Yeah,
to see of a Florida State that'll be to watch
and listen to. So we'll take a look at that.
But again, if anybody all points bulletin out app out
for Lee to live? Who he has ventured away from
the broadcast set here? I mean, he wasn't really working
to day anyway, so who the hell does Hopefully Lee,
(32:45):
he's just on the plane. Yeh?
Speaker 7 (32:46):
Home safe?
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Please?
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Yeah? Please Lee? For the love of God? All right?
What else?
Speaker 7 (32:50):
Earlier this week, the forty nine ers extended the contracts
of head coach Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch. Do
you care at all?
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Yeah? I do? And here's why I love it, because
I think this is like if I were to just
tell you Hey, so this general manager he traded away
three first round picks to move up in the draft,
and they drafted a quarterback who ended up making like
four starts for them and has already been traded elsewhere
(33:20):
and the coach couldn't really get it to work. Oh
but like three weeks later, they're all getting contract extensions.
Like it's just wild what happened in San Francisco. Yeah, Like,
there's the roster is so loaded and Kyle Shanahan has
such a great rapport with Brock Party that we just
overlook one of the worst draft day decisions in recent
(33:41):
NFL history. Like it's one of them. It's unprecedented.
Speaker 7 (33:44):
What has happened to give Brock Party some of that
money that they're getting from these extensions.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
It's crazy, It's crazy.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Like if you just think about it like this, do
they deserve this a fun question? Did they deserve more
criticism for butchering the trey Land deal or more credit
for drafting brock Party mister irrelevant in the last pick
of the draft.
Speaker 7 (34:05):
You get no credit for drafting brock Purty because you
passed over him a million times.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Just the old thing.
Speaker 7 (34:11):
You get criticism for blowing that top of the draft pick.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Yeah, yeah, it is absolutely nuts.
Speaker 7 (34:17):
Next, yeah, the Baltimore Ravens will be without seven starters
against the Colts tomorrow, including everybody's favorite wide receiver Odell
Beckham Junior. Do you care at all?
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Yeah? I mean may or may not have picked the
Baltimore Ravens in that matchup. The betting line courtesy of
our friends at DraftKings is sitting at eight. So the
Baltimore Ravens are still an eight point favorite as they
host the Indianapolis Colts. Now, Gardner Minshew's getting the start,
from my understanding, and if anybody's seen Gardner Minshew sling
that rock around, look at his numbers. He has been
(34:51):
much better than anybody gave him credit for. So maybe
the Indianapolis Cults are a live dog with all the
injuries to Baltimore.
Speaker 7 (34:59):
Next, outfielder Ronald Acunya Junior became the fifth player in
MLB history to have a forty home run forty forty
stolen base season, probably essentially sealing up the MVP award
for himself. Do you care?
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Not?
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Really?
Speaker 3 (35:13):
I mean I hate this.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
How big are those bases? Now?
Speaker 7 (35:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Like they expanded the bases and it looks like, you know,
they're sliding into bus tubs at a restaurant. Like it's
just the way that this has been skewed. It just
kind of makes me think, Man, if Ricky Henderson was
still around, how many bases is Ricky Henderson stealing? Like
like three hundred a year? Like it's just the whole
thing is completely changed. Let's go live to our I
(35:37):
have a thought on the stolen base being skewed by
the giant Bases insider Chrispfett for the lad Yeah, you know.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Those pizzas we always get in from Mulberry. Yeah, you're
at the studies of Foes Radio. They are about as
large as those pizza boxes.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Yeah, it is a giant pizza. It is a giant
pizza box. Like it just completely has changed everything. And
then on top of that, they're they're able to wear
that oven mitt now to where they It gives you
like an extra three to four inches on your hand
extended like there was some I forget who it was.
It might have been somebody on either the Diamondbacks recently
who had the mitt on his hand like at his knuckles,
(36:14):
like he's walking around with like scoop of like scoopa
shoes on his on his wrists to slide into a
bigger bass. So I just I think the way we've
got to take a step back and really look at
how we're giving credit for some of these stolen bases
this year in baseball.
Speaker 7 (36:27):
Next all right, next up my personal favorite story. The
Oakland Athletics gifted tiger slugger Miguel Cabrera a ninety dollars
bottle of wine. He's on his farewell tour as retirement tour,
getting gifts from everybody. That's not the best part though,
Miguel Cabrera is in fact a recovering alcoholics as well,
so that's a double bat by the open days there.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Well, I mean, look, you know, maybe that's why they
only spent ninety bucks. Becau they're like, a way, he's
not gonna drink it anyway. This guy's a quitter. So
what are we gonna do, like go spend him, like
buy him a five hundred dollars bottle like Drew Blae
So's wine, and I do. I will say this, this
does make me feel pretty good because I also got
my sister for her birthday. She's a big wino. I
(37:10):
got her a bottle of Camus one year, Like, I
have no idea what it is or what it does. Like,
I'm not a wine guy, but I bought her a
bottle of Camus. So now it kind of makes me
feel like I'm on par with the Oakland A's, which
is just fun.
Speaker 7 (37:22):
Yeah, that's where they want to be.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Yeah, yeah, like a who says I can't own a
major League baseball team. Watch, I just I'll have nobody
in attendance. I'll let the toilets overflow, We'll get inundated
with rats and other rodent issues, and then I'll just
buy a ninety dollars bottle of wine for recovering drunk.
That's fun.
Speaker 7 (37:39):
Next, Andrew Luck, everybody's favorite Colts quarterback, made an appearance
on the Thursday night football broadcast. He dressed as the
character Captain Andrew Luck, a popular Twitter account that pretends
Andrew Luck is a Civil War general because of his
scruffy appearance, Jony Steek care about this one at all?
Speaker 1 (37:56):
No, I don't. It's not fun. I don't get it
wasn't funny. It was to two choreographed and orchestrated, just
the whole, the whole, like Andrew Luck. It's just like,
come on, man, Like I wonder what Jim Mersay is
thinking speaking Jim Irsay probably called up Miguel Cabrera and said, hey, man,
you're not going to do anything with that? Can I
borrow that bottle of camus? And then sat bellied up
(38:18):
at a bar top right next to right, next to
lead to Lap and is watching his former quarterback who's
responsible for the organization going into the toilet walk up
like Andre the Giant fasting with a Civil War costume
on to put some bad comedy sketch on display for
(38:38):
Amazon Prime. I mean, I don't blame your say like
I'd order another one next to lead to Lap as well.
Speaker 7 (38:45):
Yeah, I will say we have seen a lot more
of Andrew Luck in the last few weeks than we
ever have in his retirement.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Before you get that, but what do you what do
you think he's been making.
Speaker 7 (38:53):
Thinking about putting himself back out there for some reason?
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Well, there's some teams who probably could use him next.
Speaker 7 (38:59):
All right, final one here. Screenwriter David S. Goyer revealed
that Jake Jillenhall was almost cast as Batman in Christopher
Nolan's Batman trilogy. Do you care at all about this one.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
No, I don't care. There's listen. I'm so tired of
this crap. I'm fed up with it. And I don't
know the difference between Marvel and DC Comics and all,
and like most of the reason why, Okay, the reason
why I don't know the difference between those two franchises
is because I'm not a nerd. So if I was
a nerd, I would know the difference between those But
(39:31):
I'm not a geek, so I don't really follow along
with that stuff. But there's been like thirty eight Batman's
there's like a spider Man, a Superman, a he Man,
a wonder Woman, a this that, like, everybody wants to
be a comic book character. Sooner or later, you've got
to grow up, stop picking your nose and wiping it
on your blankie, and be an adult and just watch
(39:52):
some football. Okay, that'll solve everything. I mean, it's just
about the most appropriate conclusion to something we've seen in
the world of football and a long long time. We'll
tell you what that is coming up here in just
a couple of moments from now. Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio.
You can listen to this show as always on the
iHeartRadio app. You can find us on hundreds of affiliates
(40:14):
all across the country and wherever you are making us
a part of your Saturday morning into the afternoon, well
it's still morning time in Hawaii, al right, give me
a break. We appreciate you doing so. We are going
to take you all the way up until four pm
Eastern time one o'clock Pacific, and that is ten am
in Hawaii. For being specific here, and we do it
all live from the tire rack dot Com studios tire
(40:35):
rack dot com. We'll help you get there, an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road has protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the way tire buying
should be so quick. Little update here, We obviously are
broadcasting here at the Graduate Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina.
Graduate Hotels a partner with us on two pros and
a cup of Joe in the morning, and they have
(40:56):
been absolutely phenomenal. Cannot recommend this place enough. They've got
locations in State College to Iowa City to ann Arbor.
I mean, they are all over the place. Minneapolis obviously
here in Columbia Columbus, Ohio. I mean, they've got locations
all over the place. So if you are thinking about,
you know, traveling to a college football game and one
(41:16):
of these big spots, cannot recommend Graduate hotels enough. The
staff is just tremendous. It doesn't have this big corporate
chain type feel to it. There's a lot of character.
There's a lot of detail that's specific to the location
of the university that they're on or next to. So
cannot recommend it enough. It's been first class through and through.
(41:37):
Now that being said, somebody who has also been first
class through and through is the great lead to lap
Fox Sports radio producer personality and living legend. There's a
reason why we call him the Big Lebowski because he
(41:58):
just kind of cruises. Man just kind of just kind
of cruises it, just kind of does his own thing.
So Lee is obviously with us because he produces the
morning show. But Lee doesn't really have a lot to
do today during this show because we've got Bo obviously,
we've got Chris Purfett. Like, everything's good here, We're covered.
(42:18):
So Lee is catching a flight with me on the
way back, and so of course you know we're gonna
jam out of here, get to the airport. Everything's fine.
So what would you do if you were lee? All right? Like,
there's a couple of options. Go take a walk, go
see the nice you know, local sites, a lot of
historic places around here. There's you know, maybe like a
(42:42):
restaurant or two like up the road. You know, go
take some pictures, send it back to the family. Hey
I'm in the south. Look at this palmeadow tree. Look
at the just look at the you know, the strug
it might might rain here. Look at that cloud formation
or those cumulus numbus clouds, like, what are those? You know,
it's great to feel this tropical weather, this humidity. Find
(43:03):
yourself a mosquito the size of a seven forty seven.
Take a picture of that and show people what real
mosquitoes are like, so we stop bitching and moaning back
in southern California about them all. Like, what would you
do if you were lead to lap well, unless you guess,
sit at a bar top and have conversation with the
guy behind the bar, and then also use the barbecue
(43:27):
sauce that was given to you as a gift to
take back home to toss your wings in at the
bar top while you're ripping a bloody marry. If that
was your guess, then you are correct, because that is
exactly where Lead the Lap is. We were wondering, we
were concerned. We had an app out for Lead to Lap,
and we have found him. He is bellied up to
the bar top and he is making his own wing
(43:48):
mixture and tossing wings in barbecue sauce that was given
to him as a gift to take back home. And
he couldn't wait that long while he sucks down either
the third or fourth bloody Mary that he's worked on. Oh.
That is the update here from the graduate in Columbia,
South Carolina. Oh and by the way, if you're wanning
an update on the college football game of note right now,
Florida State and Clemsoner tie twenty four pieces. Martin pointed
(44:11):
out in his update a few minutes ago, seven minutes
to go in the fourth quarter. There, So there you go.
There's that. Now, speaking of college football, you want to
talk about appropriate, Okay, you want to talk about something
that's maybe the most appropriate thing that we have seen
in a long long time. How about the fact that
(44:33):
while everybody is celebrating this college football schedule and people
are looking around and you've got monster matchups. You've got
I mean monster matchups all over the sport. I mean,
look at this slate. You've got Notre Dame Ohio State. Man.
I was saying earlier Notre Dame with one of the
greatest T shirts of all time. They're selling shirts there
in South Bend that say Jeffrey Dahmer went to Ohio State.
(44:57):
I mean, that's just fun for everybody. That's a fun,
family oriented design that I think you take home and
you say, hey, mom, look went to the Notre Dame game.
And then she's got to have to explain to you
who Jeffrey Dahmer is. And so she walks you over
to the freezer and she says, you see inside there.
You see those fish sticks, all right? You see those
(45:21):
those like peanut butter and jelly like things that you
buy pre bot like the smuckers peanut butter and jelly things,
the crustables or whatever they call them. You see that.
See that little carton of ice cream that's almost gone.
Because you think, if you eat the entire thing but
leave the rest of it there, it doesn't make you
look like as big of a slob. See the ice
(45:42):
cubes up in the corner. You see all this stuff. Yeah,
what about it? Mom? What's that got to do with
my Jeffrey Dahmer shirt? Okay, because that's where he kept
like tracheas and fingers and ears, like the bridge of
someone's nose, you know, spinal cord stuff like that. That's
kind of what that shirt means. But again, wholesome family content.
(46:04):
What do you expect to go to South Bend? That's
college football? So well, you got all that stuff lined
up and you got this, and everybody's getting excited. Lane
Kiffin versus Nick Saban Lane Kiffin's thrown I could beat
this be the last time. People here in South Carolina
and Columbia are excited because they got Mississippi Mississippi State,
easy for me to say, coming into town, and they're
gonna take on the Bulldogs and South Carolina's favor and
(46:27):
there's some optimism like, hey, they're gonna get this one
in that game last week against Georgia, but they're gonna
get this one this week. Well, all that is happening
we are failing to realize that one group of teams
is sticking the landing in the most appropriate way. Possible.
How about the PAC twelve. Who's got Oregon in Colorado,
(46:52):
UCLA and Utah, Oregon State, Washington State. I mean these
are all like ranked team versus ranked team. USC's got
the Heisman Trophy front runner they're kicking off later on.
Washington's got Michael Pennix junior, who's a stud. They're one
of the most underreported and underdiscussed teams in the world
(47:14):
of college football. I mean, you look up and down
the slate and it is dominated by brilliant PAC twelve
matchups and brilliant PAC twelve players, and it's over. That'll
do it right with the PAC twelve actually puts a
decent few teams on the slate and actually has something
(47:34):
to be proud of. The PAC twelve decides, you know what, Dad,
We're gonna go ahead and get out of here. All
these teams are like, yeah, we're gone, We're gonna go
ahead and leave. It is the most appropriate conclusion, especially
on a day like today where you've got a monster
slate of matchups in the world of college football, and
the PAC twelve has got as good as any that
(47:55):
you're looking up and down the schedule of top twenty
five teams ranked, teams with great players and Heisman Trophy
front runners and everything else you could possibly want. Coaches
who were getting lured and looked at by NFL teams
top one or two draft picks in the league. You
got teams tanking for a quarterback in the Pac twelve.
You got all of that that's happening, and the Pac
twelve's gone. It's like somebody just being awful to you
(48:19):
in a relationship. They were abusive, they said mean things,
they stole from you, they slept with all your friends.
And then right as they were moving out there like,
by the way, you're the most incredible person I've ever
met in my life, and here's like two hundred thousand
dollars worth of jewelry. I wish I could have been
better to you, And then closes the door. Where the
(48:41):
hell was that person when I needed them? The Pac
twelves looking around, going where was this great football when
I needed it? The hell's going on here, But don't
worry about it. It's all gonna end soon, So we'll
go ahead and celebrate it while we got it. And
then we're gonna go ahead and walk away from this
entire conference. And we're gonna wonder what the hell happened
moving forward. But if you do have any pack twelve gear,
it's probab gonna be worse something someday. Just you know,
(49:03):
sell that to a thrift store. Right now, somebody be
buying it out of there in like you know, three
four years. Spend like four times what the price was
that you paid for it. It's gonna be vintage. Gotta
celebrate these moments at the Jonas knocks on Twitter. Speaking
of celebrations and positive feedback here on the show, we
have some people writing in here as we are doing
this show live from the tiraq dot Com studios. Brian
(49:25):
writes in, your loser ass is more bleep than all
these hacky and unwatchable pre postgame shows that try to
be Saturday Night Live, except your lame bleep ass couldn't
even get a gig on this vomit bag bleep shows.
Troy writes in we need these useless forty whiners fans
(49:50):
to do something productive for once and kick the living
bleep out of this bleep and cracker bleep Jonas and
end him in the bay. Tony writes in, j Off, Joni,
your twink ass along with mel Tucker should get back
to bleeping each other like the bleep Bros. YouTube bleep
(50:12):
bleeps are. Braxton writes in shut your game, cock, bleep
writing mouth, you're nothing more than a West Coast bleep
boy who lives off gas station food. With your ugly tattoos,
small calf Bleepsucker, you deserve to be fired for your
(50:32):
bleep takes. It's not funny. Lee at the Jonas Knocks
on Twitter. At the Jonas Knocks on Twitter if you
would like to see the unedited versions of those that
full presentation. All right, we are brought to you by
(50:54):
Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes buddling easy and affordable. Get a
multi policy disco out by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat,
ATV and more all your protection in one place. Bundle
and save Atprogressive dot com. So there is a there's
a player in the NFL. This guy in the NFL
a lightning rod for some criticism. And it's not only
(51:19):
not going as well as everyone thought it was, it's
actually going historically worse than what everybody thought it would go.
And I'll tell you who that is right here on
FSR Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio you can hang out
with us as always on the iHeartRadio app, updating you
on some scores around the world of college football. Clemson
(51:41):
and Florida State. That is the game everybody's got eyeballs on.
Number four, Florida State at Clemson in Death Valley, A
good matchup. They are tied at twenty four a piece
with a minute and change left to go in that game,
So of course we're going to keep you updated on
that now. If you're wondering, it was twenty four piece
right now, obviously with turno there, and they turnover was
(52:01):
via the missfield goal, so they turned it over on
downs with the missfield goal there. And if I'm not mistaken,
and I'm almost positive I've got this correct, but I
think there was a story about the Clemson placekicker who
was brought in this week. And the Clemson placekicker was
brought I think he was just a walk on who
had another job lined up. I think he had another
(52:23):
job already lined up elsewhere, and so he took the
gig with Clemson because it was like a dream come true.
I think it was Jonathan Waits, if I'm not mistaken,
and he made his first field goal his boss at
this job. He already had everything lined up. This was
just sort of a kind of a dream come true
for him. His boss and his family were in the
(52:45):
stands to watch him. He made his first field goal
from thirty yards out, and then he had an opportunity
moments ago to make a second field goal to put
Clemson ahead with under two minutes to go, and he missed,
and Dado Switty was quoted as saying before the game,
this is either going to go really really well and
it's going to be amazing, or it's going to be awful.
(53:06):
We'll have it a little bit of both devil. You know,
I made the first one, and you know the other
one apparently did not go well. So now Florida State
has got the football. They are driving their inside Clemson
territory with the ball at the Clemson forty yard line,
looking to try and get enough yards here to have
a field goal attempt for themselves here to try and
make this kick and stay undefeated and stay in the
(53:28):
top five, presumably based on or depending on what happens
elsewhere in the world of college football, which I will
say this, I'm going to be really curious to see
what the reaction here is in Columbia, South Carolina, here
at the Graduate Hotel, because you got people hanging out
at the bar. By the way, there's other people not
just lead to lap hanging out at the bar watching
(53:49):
college football. And I'm fascinated to see what the reaction
is going to be if Florida State makes a kick
here or wins and beats Clemson in Death Valley, because
South Carolina Clemson is no joke, right, it is no joke.
My first ever SEC game that I saw was actually
SEC ACC and it was South Carolina Clemson, and it's
(54:10):
one of the more underdiscussed rivalries because Clemson's, like, you know,
three hours away in the state of South Carolina. There
was for a long time Steve Spurrier dominated Dabo Swinty
in the matchup. So I'm fascinated to see what the
reaction is going to be because Clemson has had a
hell of a run. They've put together some really great seasons,
they've won national championships, They've gotten players drafted. I mean,
(54:35):
it's been a football factory. It's been a first round
draft pick factory with a lot of success. They've taken
down Alabama a couple of times. You've had a lot
of like really really talented players leave Clemson go to
the NFL and have really really great careers or great
starts to their careers. So I'm wondering what this is
going to sound like here in Columbia. If Florida State
(54:56):
lines up for a kick and they've now got a
fourth and ten in depth with eighteen seconds left to go,
I'd love to provide you better play by play, but
I can't because Lee's right in front of the TV.
So I would love to provide you better right in
front of the monitors. Is lead to lapse, so it
looks like it's gonna be too long to attempt a
(55:16):
field goal. So Florida State is going to try and
go forward here on fourth and ten with eighteen seconds
left to go. Again, twenty four to twenty four is
the score there in Death Valley, And now there's a
time out on the field of course there is. Man,
what a pain in the ass you try and provide
some people some in game coverage of one of the
potential upset here in the world of college football, and
(55:37):
they got to call a timeout. This is my nightmare,
not really an upset because the points spread was like two.
So it wasn't really that not much of an upset,
but we will again keep you posting all of that.
Speaking of Clemson though, and speaking of Clemson players who
went from that school into the NFL, let's check in
on the Deshaun Watson situation. Let's go ahead and here
(55:59):
from Massage Watson, who spoke this week about some of
the criticisms that he has been receiving and hearing from
people for the for the poor start to his season
as a member of the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 8 (56:13):
It's impossible not to see it that that's I just
turn off my phone completely, you know, turn off the
TV completely. But you know, it comes with the territory,
It comes with the status and the standard that people
hold me again hold me too. So you know, I
don't I don't look at it as anything bad. I
don't look at it as anything personal, you know, as
part of the game, as part of my level, and
it's part of you know, I look at it as
people hold me to the center. So I have to,
(56:34):
you know, make sure I play to that center. And
if I'm not, then I have to continue to find
ways to get better. So you know, I don't take
it personally, I don't get my feelings about it. It's just,
you know, continue to just keep going and keep learning
and keep working each and every day.
Speaker 1 (56:47):
Now, that's interesting when Deshaun Watson says that he doesn't
get his feelings about it, because there is some speculation
that he has a burner account out there on Twitter.
That has been the speculation. Again, I can't confirm, nor
can I deny whether or not DeShawn Watson's got a
burner account on Twitter to try and defend himself. But
there was a burner account or some sort of account
that was created on social media during Deshaun Watson's poor
(57:12):
Monday Night football performance, and so that leads people to
believe that, well, you know, it's not Deshaun Watson clearly
because the account was created while he was on the
field and playing. It's like, okay, well, it could have
been someone close to him, you know, with under advisement
from Deshaun Watson, like hey do this back me up
on here. So there has been that out there. But
the part about this that I think we've never seen
(57:32):
before is it's a guy who was rewarded with a
historic record setting contract, one that we've never seen that.
Like everyone's been demanding in campaigning for guaranteed contracts in
the NFL, that's been like one of the go tos.
We need guaranteed contracts. It's not fair that guys in
the NBA have guaranteed contracts. Guys in Major League Baseball.
(57:56):
You know, it's what you could say whatever you want about,
you know, the MLB union and the players union there
and the NBA players Union, and you say whatever you want, man,
but those guys are getting paid and they're getting every
single cent of those contracts. And Deshaun Watson's going to
get every single cent of the contract he signed. So
it is historic because we've never seen it before. And
(58:17):
we've also never seen somebody not only get rewarded and
rewarded with a historic contract, but then not deliver anywhere
close to what anybody thought he was going to be.
And it just goes to show you how desperate the
Cleveland Browns were to solidify that position to do what
they did. It just goes to show you because people
(58:40):
are doing the comparisons. Now you're looking at Baker Mayfield
start to his season, and he's having a better start
to his year, obviously than Deshaun Watson is and I
said this at the time, Baker Mayfield's getting upset about
the Cleveland Browns flirting with other quarterbacks like Deshaun Watson,
is exactly what why the Browns had to overpay for
(59:01):
Deshaun Watson. That's why all that went down the way
it did, because when Baker Mayfield heard the rumblings that
Deshaun Watson was being looked at by the Browns and
they were kicking the tires on potentially adding another quarterback,
Baker Mayfield went public and said, I think we need
to go our separate ways. This isn't working. And so
the Browns had no choice because all of a sudden
(59:22):
they were in a spot to where they had a
quarterback who didn't want to play for him. They'd alienated him,
they'd aired him out to dry. He went public with
his displeasure for the whole thing, and so the Browns
had no choice but to overpay for Deshaun Watson, which
is why they gave him this historic deal that they
gave him. And the only reason Deshaun Watson went to
Cleveland is because of the contract he was signed, sealed
(59:43):
and delivered to Atlanta and then once the Browns came
way over the top and offered him so much more,
he ends up in Cleveland. So not only does he
does he make history and do the one thing that
everybody has been campaigning for and demanding. Guaranteed contract, guarantee, contract, guaranteed,
contract fully guaranteed. Not only does he get that, but
(01:00:05):
then doesn't even deliver. Oh and by the way, there's
all the other stuff off the field people are worried
about and have been discussing. And so you're seeing Browns fans,
you know, go out and they're buying Deshaun Watson jerseys,
and everybody's selling the arrival of Deshaun Watson. And the
fact of the matter is it hasn't come anywhere close
to what anybody wanted. And when you sign big deals
(01:00:27):
or you know, when you have all these big expectations,
there are letdowns and then there's this like if somebody
tells you, man, I make the best wings, or my
grilling is the best, I have the best burger recipe
on the planet. Oh really, that's kind of a bold statement.
Let me take a bite of this and you bite
into it, and it's basically like a sewer rat wrapped
(01:00:48):
in between two pieces of bread. Sorry, Sammy, I didn't
realize you're eating. I apologize Sammy from Graduate Hotels biting
into a rap right as I say that, my inability
to read the room was very parent there. But the
point is, you know what I mean, expectations kind of
change the way you viewed stuff. What about expectations changed
the way you view stuff when the guy's a weirdo
(01:01:10):
but gets rewarded with a historic contract. And that's where
the Browns find themselves out with Deshaun Watson, and it
just goes back to their desperation to want to fix
that position. They went in and brought in a guy
who just hadn't really played all that much or all
that well in a long time, and he's nowhere close
to the same player he was. And people were debating
(01:01:32):
this earlier in the week because we were talking about
a little bit on the morning show, like you know,
people saying, well, Deshaun Watson's never been a top ten
quarterback in the NFL. Okay, but that wasn't what the
move was about. If you were to if we want
to go back in time and you wanted to talk
about the top five quarterback talents in the league. Maybe
(01:01:53):
Deshaun Watson hadn't lived up to what Patrick Mahomes was.
But if we go back just a few years, go
back to twenty nineteen, twenty twenty, and that's when all
of this stuff popped up, and that's when there was
rumblings that he was going to be on his way
out of Houston. If we go back there, you won't
find a GM anywhere in the league who would say, yeah,
as far as quarterbacks, I would want to build my
(01:02:13):
team around moving forward future stars. You're not getting out
of the top three or five before you mentioned Deshan Watson.
That's a fact. If you just go back, that is
where we were at when the move was made, and
since then he's only regressed and he's either not played
or he's played poorly. And during that time he had
(01:02:36):
all the scandal stuff pop up with the massage therapists
and everything else, and got rewarded with two hundred and
thirty million dollars. So there's not living up to the contract.
And then there's this this is historic. It's a guy
who was involved in one of the most bizarre, shocking
scandals and list of allegations that we've seen in recent
(01:02:59):
NFL history, gets rewarded with a historic contract and then
goes out and plays the worst football he's played in
his career. I don't know that there's another time that
we can point to all of those events happening in
the NFL, but it's happening right now with Deshaun Watson.
And that's why the Browns find themselves in the spot
that they are. Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio. You
(01:03:20):
can listen to this show again, is always on the
iHeartRadio app. Now we are here live from the Graduate
Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina. We did not have a
miraculous win by Florida State over Clemson because they have
gone to overtime there in Death Valley. So we're gonna
find out all the latest on that from the one
(01:03:42):
and only Martin Weiss. And a busy, busy day in
the world of college football.
Speaker 6 (01:03:47):
Martin, that's right, Jonas, that is a busy day. Number
four Florida State. They just squeaked by Boston College last weekend,
well and overtime right now twenty four piece time with
the Clemson Tigers. Clemson mythsed to go ahead field goaling
less than two minutes ago. You weresual just added. But
in this in case you're tuned in, Clemson kicker Jonathan
Whit's was a backup for four years, was taking master
(01:04:08):
classes online. Doabo Sweeney calls us, says, hey, we need
a kicker, and he misses the go ahead kicked.
Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
I would have stayed in school. Another big shit.
Speaker 1 (01:04:17):
Come on, Mart, I mean you share a last name
with the guy. You should be nicer do.
Speaker 6 (01:04:20):
I'm saying he's good putting a bad name out for
all of us. All Right, I retired when it was time.
Amer came out of retirement and missed a potential game winner.
Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
And by the way, did you see what just happened
in the game. Well see, yeah, so we got now.
Florida State has just taking the lead in overtime thirty
one twenty four.
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
And another thing, though, this is another thing.
Speaker 6 (01:04:39):
This is back to back weeks, Jonas that somebody in
college football is getting in the way of us watching
Colorado play. I'm sick of it. Last week Florida and
Tennessee get in a fight. This week overtime, We're all
here to watch coach Prime. It'll kick off in just
a minute. Texas a and M leads Auburn twenty seven
ten late in the fourth quarter. Earlier today, Number two
(01:05:00):
Michigan took care of Rutgers thirty one to seven, playcorum
two touchdowns in that matchup. Number sixteen Oklahoma take care
of Cincinnati six twenty twenty two to six. And in
the NFL, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow listened as questionable the
ramp against the Rams. The Bengals have made several quarterback moves,
signed A J. Mccarrett to the practice squad, but Jake
(01:05:21):
brownings lated to start if he can't go. Titan earth
Smith also listed as delta for Cincinnati, and Texans left
tackle Laramy Tunsel is ruled out for Sunday's game in Jacksonville.
That's the divisional matchup between the Texans and the Jaguars.
Our Martin Wiss Jonas back to you.
Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
Thanks, Martin Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports Radio, So yeah,
we will keep you post here. They are in overtime
and Death Valley, so lots of fun stuff there, and again,
you know, being a the rivals home base, curious to
see what this reaction is if Clemson blows this game
and loses there at home to Florida State. By the way,
we are gonna have some Knox locks coming up here
(01:05:57):
in a little over ten minutes from now, so make
sure you stick around for that. You know, hadn't been
all that hot and hadn't been all that great. I'm
just gonna go ahead known it and be responsible for
my decisions here on this show. So I will do that.
I will address that and some of the criticism again
coming up here in a little over ten minutes from
now from the ti raq dot com studios. So this
is I'm just I'm just wondering, okay, because you know,
(01:06:21):
I know there's like a lot of excuses that are
made where people there's like the default, you know, you
go back to, Okay, well this happened because of this,
and it's like this built in excuse that you just
go to over and over and over again. And like
sometimes you'll experience people in your life to where you
can almost guess what the excuse is before they even
(01:06:42):
say it. Like you got a buddy who's always late,
he's always on up late, and you know it's gonna
be oh, sorry, I forgot forgot I couldn't find my keys,
or yeah, sorry about that. I had to stop and
get gas. Oh yeah, no, man, I apologize. I know
I'm running a few minutes late, but you know, something
came up and I you know, I had to run
(01:07:03):
back in the house, and you know, I forgot that
I didn't turn the lights off. You know, there's always
something like people just have these go tos. For years,
the New York Jets had a go to excuse of, yeah, well,
of course we're not beating the Patriots because they have
Tom Brady. I mean, come on, yeah, it must be nice.
You got the greatest quarterback of all time and Tom Brady.
That must be nice. I mean, of course we're not
(01:07:23):
going to beat him. It's always your built in excuse.
So what's the excuse now because they've lost fourteen straight
games to the New England Patriots. Just think about that,
Like the Niners have beaten the Rams fifteen straight times.
Like the Niners have had like a you know, a
(01:07:44):
different you know, concoction of you know, quarterbacks that have
come in and out of there, and there's been some
down years, but they've been pretty dominant over the Rams.
But at least the Rams beat the Niners in the
NFC title game. At least they've got that going for him,
you know, like there is something to that. What's the
excuse for the New York Jets. Tom Brady's gone, right,
(01:08:04):
And for all this conversation about how Bill Belichick can't
do it without Tom Brady, Well you know what he
can do without Tom Brady. He can beat the crummy Jets.
That's what he can do. And it's just hilarious when
you think that was always the go too. Well, of course,
I mean, they've got the greatest quarterback of all time.
You think we're gonna beat him, and they had some
success against Tom Brady when Rex Ryan was there. They
(01:08:26):
beat tom Brady in a playoff game. But we're talking
fourteen straight losses. Garrett Wilson was saying this week, Yeah,
it's unacceptable, and we're sick of this, you know, we're
tired of this happening. And it's almost like you're at
the point now to where you got to find your like,
take your little small victories where you can get him.
And everybody's already ready to just bail on Zach Wilson
(01:08:48):
again after what happened last year and what has happened
since he's taken over for Aaron Rodgers. Like, if Zach
Wilson goes out there tomorrow and they're an underdog at
home against New England, an underdog on draftking. If Zach
Wilson goes out tomorrow and Bill Belichick and the Patriots
who are sitting at Ozen two and everybody's laughing because
they're like, oh, you don't have Brady anymore, and you're
(01:09:10):
not the same Patriots, and now you're the doormat of
the AFC and not us. If they go out and
lose again to New England, the fallout of that amongst
Jets fans, they will alienate Zach Wilson immediately because they
finally thought, we got our guy. Now the Patriots walked
around with one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
(01:09:31):
We finally got our guy. We got Aaron Rodgers, and
four plays into his career with the New York Jets,
it's over until next season. And so now they find
themselves in this spot thinking we were gonna we were
gonna have our way with New England, especially at home
week three of the season. We were gonna get him
with Aaron Rodgers, and they had to deal with Mac
(01:09:51):
Jones and they don't even know if they want him,
and they've got Bill O'Brien as their offensive coordinator now,
and maybe Bailey Zapi will get some playing time because
they can't figure out whether or not they like him
more than they like Mac Jones. Like, all of that
is happening, and you've got the New England Patriots sitting
there just run and steady and run and steady. The
Jets suffering injury at quarterback, and then they've got Zach
(01:10:12):
Wilson going in as an underdog against New England and
the expectation is New England's going to run up number
fifteen in a row on them. And the old excuse,
the go to oh yeah, sorry, you know, couldn't find
my keys, had to stop and get gas. I realized
I left something back in the house. All of that
is gone, and it's been gone for a while. It's
(01:10:33):
got nothing to do with Tom Brady. It's got one
organization dominating another one written all over it, and you're
just gonna have to wear it again if you're a
Jets fan and it goes on for a fifteenth straight time.
Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio, Get me on Twitter

over ten minutes from now from these ti iraq dot
(01:12:20):
com studios, it's Moncey Belangos and Alex Curry sweeping the
sports talk radio nation. I mean, if you don't believe me,
just ask Monsey. She'll tell you how great she is.
Yeah seriously, I mean, my god, yeah, just like you
walk by her, there's just this this dismissiveness of like
(01:12:40):
who are you again? Oh yeah, Like she walked by,
like I walked by Monsey, and I think Moncey's like
a friend, Like I think we're buddies. We have a
good time, we joke, we goof around and I say,
what's up Monts? She goes, what's up undercard? Who heard?
She goes, well, everybody knows that, uh, myself and Alex
(01:13:01):
Curry are the main event. What's it like to be
on the undercard for the main event? And I said, okay,
that's awesome. We appreciate it. So if you want to
stick around for the fun stuff with Moncy and Alex,
make sure you do. That'll be coming up here in
a little over ten minutes from now. Before we get
to another edition of Knox Locks, we do want to
let you know that it's brought to you by DraftKings
Sportsbook and official sports betting partner of the NFL. Download
(01:13:22):
the Draftking Sportsbook app today and use code up on
game for a special offer when you sign up. That's
code up on game only at Draftking Sportsbook.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
Lock it, let's lock it and now and now Knox Locks.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
All right, So, unlike some people that are too sensitive
to be called out, and if you call them out
on social media, they block you or they report you
to the authorities. You know, because Elon Musk has got
nothing else to do, Elon Musk will be right there
to protect you from somebody saying something mean about you
(01:13:57):
on social media. All right, So for all you softies
out there who can't just acknowledge when you put together
either a poor show or a poor performance at work,
or just did something that maybe wasn't up to snuff,
let me go ahead and take the league on some accountability.
Here we are two weeks into Knox Locks, and I'm
(01:14:19):
shocked that they've invited us back for week three. It
has been dreadful, worst start in the history of this
and we've been doing Knox Locks on Fox Sports Radio
for I mean what seven eight years now. It's been
a long ass time, and it's as worse as it's
ever been. It is terrible. So I went into last
week oh to three, and I thought, you know what
(01:14:40):
Week one? I mean, come on, give me a break.
Week one's tough to pick, all right. You don't know
how good these teams are gonna be. You don't know
who's dealing with an injury that are reporting on, you
don't know which teams are you know, have got some
sort of drama behind the scene something, and don't worry
about all that. Oh and three. Forget about it. So
I go into last week. I take the bills minus
eight and a half. We'll guess what, We're off to
(01:15:01):
a hot start. That's what we needed. The Bills took
care business. They wiped out the Raiders. They coasted in
that game, went down early, and I'm thinking, Okay, this
is not looking good. That's bad. When you have an
eight and a half point favorite and they're down seven
to nothing early, that's bad. You're basically trailing by fifteen.
And so I said, okay, I'll just stick with it.
So the Bills roll, I'm thinking, man, coast is clear.
(01:15:24):
How about Bears plus two and a half at the Buccaneers.
Not only did I not cover that game, Not only
did I did I not hit on that pick. The
Bears were missing their defensive coordinator because apparently his home
was being raided by the FBI. All right, so that
unexplained to you what Week two was like. After the
(01:15:45):
Raiders and Bills, And then look, what do you want
me to say? I also had Denver minus three and
a half over the Commanders. I thought, man, you know,
Denver's got this home field advantage mile high first two
weeks of the season. Denver's always got this advantage built in.
That's what everybody talks about. Yeah, apparently apparently that doesn't
exist anymore, so I didn't that Nether loss as well too.
So we are one in five through the first two
(01:16:07):
weeks of Knox Locks. So again, we're back for round three.
We're gonna try and get this thing a spin. So
let's roll.
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
Chargers at Vikings.
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
I'm taking the Bolts. Give me the LA Chargers formally
of San Diego and formally played games. Now they're in
a giant gazebo and so far they used to play
in a giant porta potty called Qualcomm. But I'm gonna
take the LA Chargers here getting a point on the road.
I mean, it's basically a pick them, but something's gotta give.
You got a couple of winless teams, winless playoff teams
(01:16:40):
to boot who are looking around for answers. Everybody thinks
Brandon Staley's on the hot seat. But most importantly, the
reason why I'm picking the Chargers here is because I
have to, because I pick the Chargers to represent the
AFC in the Super Bowl. And if the Chargers start
zero to three, not only am I losing this bet,
but I'm also losing my Super Bowl pick because they
(01:17:01):
ain't going anywhere. So this is like a correlation pick.
I'm already pot committed to LA getting to the super Bowl,
so I may as well be pot committed for them
to take care of the Minnesota Vikings, even though it's
on the road and they've struggled on the road, and
god forbid, they have a lead and they struggle on
the road holding leads. I'm gonna go ahead, and I'm gonna
take the Chargers here getting a point. Go Chargers, Go
(01:17:22):
Titans a Browns, all right, Tennessee's just not very good.
Tennessee had no business winning that game last week against
the LA Chargers. I'm gonna go with the Cleveland Browns here.
I look, the Nick Chubb injury is devastating, but Cleveland's
a three and a half point favorite, and I don't
think that Deshaun Watson's gonna light it up. As we
talked about earlier, it's been a disappointment on multiple levels,
(01:17:42):
just from the money, to the play, to the background
to all of that stuff. It's been terrible. But I
look at this and I go, if you're the Cleveland
Browns and you have as talented as a roster as
you do, even though the injury to Chubb is devastating.
I think you can take care of business against Tennessee
at home. I don't think Tennessee. Tennessee should have a
win on the season. So I'm gonna take the Browns
(01:18:03):
and yes, Massage wattson minus three and a half hosting.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
The Titans Panthers at Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
I'm taking Seattle here. Give me the Seattle Seahawks. Now, look,
their defense hasn't been all that great, all right, their
defense has kind of struggled. But Seattle picked up a
big win last week. They showed a lot of heart,
a lot of grit, and Carolina is all banged up. Man,
Bryce Young is out. You got Andy Dalton there, and
so maybe you feel a little bit better about him,
you know, playing as opposed to Bryce Young. But I
(01:18:29):
look at this and I go, Seattle is sitting at home.
They're a five and a half point favorite. I think
this is where they make a statement. I think this
is where they start to go on a run. I
think they are going to be one of those teams
that's in the mix for a playoff spot at the
end of the year. Because again I picked them, so
I have to have this go this way, and that
is your Week three edition of Knox lock.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Knocks.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Damn Right, Baby Monci and Alex Next
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Shonas son of a Bitch
