Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Radio RADO somehow, some way every single Sunday.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
When we reach air.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Which is right now five o'clock Pacific, eight o'clock Eastern,
and maybe we should come to expect this from I
feel like I'm panting. I feel like I'm trying to
catch my breath at this hour because of what has
just unfolded and that goes all over the country. Just

(00:30):
as an example, and maybe you, as a former player,
can help, just explain this to me right out of
the gate. I do believe that this is the third
week in a row. And correct me if I'm wrong.
There have only been three weeks of the regular season
so far. Three each week the top one or even
two most favored teams have lost.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
I'll give you an example.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I got one survivor pool and I ain't in it anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
That started with over eight hundred people.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Some of the picks are still on tomorrow night's game.
But at this hour, of those eight hundred plus people,
do you know how many have already punched their ticket
to Week four? Of those eight hundred plus people, what
would your guest be?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Two fifty? Ready? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:29):
Five five weeks ago with.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
The possibility if tomorrow goes well for the favorites of
it getting up to about thirty five, that's the max.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
What on earth is this? Like?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I get it. Unpredictability, blah blah blah. When you watch
what we've watched, you and I saw to your last weekend,
we're like Tampa Bay's reel man, Tampa Bay's reel and
bon Nick's boy, he looks kind of like a concern.
What causes something like that to take place? Can you
explain it?

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yes? I can't, Okay, please do being human being, that's
it that this is the only explanation. Now. I hope,
I hope, I hope you weren't expecting some philosophical answer
where I broke down the time and dimension and no, no, no, no,

(02:28):
this simple. And as I'm watching these games, I'm like, oh,
I don't know anything. I mean, I'm literally like, oh,
I don't I'm I'm just a passenger. I don't have
the directions and I don't know how to read the
map because things that we think would happen are not happening.

(02:52):
And it's like case in point, the best quarterbacks in
the league outside of well, he's not even playing like
Patrick Mahomes. But the best quarterbacks in the league are
all they're all throwaways. The guys who are are doing,

(03:13):
you know, a tremendous job, they're all throwaways. Think about that. Sam,
Sam was thrown away multiple times.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Okay, that's that's one. Who else Matthew Stafford was thrown away? Yeah,
although Matthew Stafford was the number one picking.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
It doesn't matter. What I'm talking about is it wasn't
good enough. We don't want you anymore. You're right right
like that, that's the level I'm talking about. Jared Golf
was thrown away.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
How do you feel today?

Speaker 2 (03:50):
It's one thing to get benched embarrassingly as the number
one overall pick in the draft, But when.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Captain kick around, Andy.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Ways Up shows up and your offense in one week
goes from so like absolute high school play to suddenly
unstoppable thirty six points on the road. All of those
skilled position players are suddenly fantasy relevant.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Do you know how bad that looks for Bryce Young today?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
It's it's a it's a death sentence, perverbably speaking in
terms of career, our starting opportunity. Let me explain to
the people listening just exactly what you mean by that. Okay,
no one outside of the quarterback position Bryce Young and
Andy Dalton has changed. No one outside of those two.

(04:53):
Deontay Johnson, Okay, we I have him on my team
out in fantasy football. He was never going to see
the field. I played him. I had a fee you're
smarter than me. I played him, and Cuba Hubbard. I
played him so case in point. Week one, two receptions

(05:18):
nineteen yards, yep. Week two, three receptions fifteen yards, Rice
Young quarterback. Week three, Andy Dalton eight receptions, one hundred
and twenty two yards and a touchdown. Touchdown. But that's
not it. That's not it. Okay, okay, receiver quarterback, you

(05:40):
get it all right, Chuba Hubbard running back. Okay, this
is how important the right quarterback is. First game six
carries fourteen yards, two point three yards to carry. Got
a little better. The second week ten carries sixty four yards. Huh, okay,

(06:03):
I'm only gonna get a ball to you ten times.
Week three, Andy Dalton twenty one carries one hundred and
fourteen yards.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Don't leave out five catches for fifty.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Five catches for fifty five yards and a touchdown. So
when you look, it's a direct correlation. This is the
same exact team, and a lot of people in the
media and sports media they felt a certain type of

(06:38):
way about Carolina and them doing this to Bryce Young. Yep.
And the simple thing is, we know the roster we have,
and we've spent time and money into this roster, and
for it to look like it's looked for the last

(06:59):
two weeks, we cannot continue on this path because now
we look like bigger idiots. So you question them on
the decision to bench the first overall pick in the
draft from last year, yep, And you immediately see dividends

(07:21):
because historically, statistically, we know if you start zero to three,
your chances of making it to the playoffs shrink, and
they're diminished just right.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
It almost almost almost never happens.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
So if you want to save your season in a
division that's pretty up for grabs, then you have to
make a tough decision. And they did it. And it's
amazing what a team looks like when you have a real,
live quarterback. And I'm not being I don't want to
be too dispurging to Bryce Young. He's young, he's small.

(08:06):
The game is moving way too fast for him. Obviously,
if you've watched him play, you can see he's not
very comfortable. Same plays, same players, same play, same players.
This is how you fit out they would have came
if Andy would have came out there and got sacked
a bunch of times, it turnovers, couldn't get a yard,
then be like, oh okay, well it's you know Bryce

(08:28):
Young just doesn't have the talent around him. Well, he
obviously does. He obviously does. Yep, and and it's a
testament to ownership coaching. Hey man, we gotta make a
real tough choice. Nobody wants to bench the number one
pick in the draft a year before. Nobody wants to

(08:49):
do that, guy, because you have to answer that question
over and over again all year. You made a mistake.
You made a mistake. See J Stroud's this cee Jy
Stroud's that you made a mistake. The only way you
get from under that mistake is to go out and win.
Ask San Francisco. Ask San Francisco how they've been. We're
not't even talking about that anymore. That was what two

(09:11):
years ago, three years ago? Two we're notin't even talking
about it anymore. We're about to but anyway, go ahead,
But you get what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
So that's well in a different way than you think.
But yes, go, I get exactly what.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
You're saying that that's that's coaching coaching. GM's GMing.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Well, here's what I see as sort of an umbrella
idea to what you're talking about. And it's funny because
you're pointing out that the throwaways have succeeded. At the
same time, when we talk about talent around the QB,
let's talk to Chicago Bears for a second.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
It's not fair. He's only had three games.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
I get it, But what did everyone say, Oh, well,
the Bears finally did right by their QB because they
put talent around him.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Uh huh, how's it going?

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Because the guy you gave up that didn't have talent
around him is now three to zero in another city.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Because what actually matters for.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
An NFL team, I don't want to hear any more
about oh, fifty five millions too much, sixty millions too
much quarterback coaching. That's the deal, because if you look
around the league at the players who can suddenly pop
statistically when they're in a good system that's well coached

(10:37):
with a good quarterback, anybody pick up Juwan Jennings on
their fantasy squad this week. Go ahead and crack a beer.
Congrats on your win. There you go, why? There you go?

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Why? Why?

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Because? And we'll get to what's going on on the
other side of the ball. But there's a good quarterback,
there's a good offensive system in place.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
You can make all of these things work around you.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
So look at Andy Dalton, look at Brock Purdy, look
at all the names you just brought up. Justin Fields
is winning forget today. But Baker Mayfield has had a
successful year. I don't think he's turned the ball over yet.
All of these throwaways are doing just fine. And then
look what happens Miami when you lose a quarterback, you

(11:23):
can't function.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Oh goodness.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
So I'm gonna say.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
One more time, if you paid your wide receiver thirty million,
you done messed up.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
You messed up. I messed up, you did. And I
remember us having this conversation like when is the bubble
gonna burst? Well, how did Brandon I you do today?

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Let's see Brandon I Yuke had I believe he had
five catches for forty eight yards.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (11:56):
Oh oh? And two drops? Oh, two drops?

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Bad? Drops as well.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
That would be drops number four and five on the
young season.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Hey guess what though, he got his money, got his money,
got his money, got his money.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
And Juan Jennings today went for eleven catches for one
hundred seventy five yards and three touchdowns. One makes seven
point eight million dollars.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
How lamb do? Ceedee lamb?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Let's take a look at ceedee lamb and a loss
to the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Also to fall.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
To to one and two four for sixty seven, four
for sixty seven. And I believe there was also a
lost fumble in there. Yeah, lost fumble. Yeah, sowd Tyreek
Hill do today? He's the one who set the market
at the market million dollars. He's set the market a
couple of years ago. Tyreek Hill three catches for forty
yards on five targets.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Man, that seems crazy.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah, how did a J. Brown do today? All right,
he doesn't even.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Play how did DeVante Adams do?

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Because he's Deante Adams Mexican money?

Speaker 2 (13:16):
DeVante Adams Netflix four catches for forty yards lost by
double digits.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
So when you ask, when is that bubblegunna burst? And look,
this is a one. This is one game. But but
what we're doing is we're explaining and showing you the
direct correlation between getting the one position right opposed to

(13:45):
the others. You can pay Tarrek Hill and Waddle as
much as you want if you have what was the
kids name throwing to them? I don't even I don't
even know.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Want it started out as Skyler Thompson, Yeah, and then
he got hurt and then it turned into.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Him boiled in me and you you may.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Remember Tim Boyle as one of the people in the
bucket of the Jets. What the hell are we going
to do now at quarterbacks over the last couple of years.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Hey, but guess what receivers making a lot of money? Yep,
severs making a lot of money. Does it equate to
wins in a Super Bowl championship? Obviously not.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Obviously we should add we should add seven catches for
sixty six yards. Seven catches for sixty six yards.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
That would be.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle put together. So seven catches
for sixty six yards.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
This is this is the bubble beginning to lose air,
I hope. So someone has poked a hole in the
in this and and look, even in a win, justin Jefferies,
who's amazing. Yeah, six for eighty one in a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
A touchdown, it's not enough. It's not like these guys
aren't good players.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
And good players, but you are going to move that.
Do they equate to wins? That's what we're talking about.
That's what the bubble is, that's what you want to
hold out two years. Good luck the Jamar Chase, Oh god,
good luck. You think they're going to be running to

(15:29):
the to the negotiating table after seeing this. They know,
they're aware, they understand what's going on. All the guys
who set the market, all the guys who you want
to be paid more than they got their stats up
and the wind losses up.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Might be the first time in my life I've ever
felt like the Bengals were smart.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
Man.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
But yeah, okay, let's get into it and we can
start with this time to check in and reboot on
everything that we thought we knew about the NFC. Let's
take a breath and go through what's real and what's not.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
Good evening wherever you are. Thank you for being with us.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Okay, let's talk about the National Football Conference for a
couple of minutes. If you will, National Football Conference, big
fancy favorite San Francisco forty nine ers. You know, it
would be one thing if the Niners offense came out
this week and looked like it couldn't function because there

(18:53):
was no Christian McCaffrey and no Deebo Samuel and no
George Kittle, and all of that would provide the forty
nine ers with a comfy little excuse. I don't think
there really are excuses. It's not like everyone would have
been nice about it, but at least it would have
made sense. I would have understood. But instead Brock Purdy

(19:14):
came out and the forty nine ers led fourteen to
nothing after one quarter torched. The Rams went up and
down the field with ease, brought through eight incompletions on
the day and had six drops.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
That's how good he was. That's how good he is.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
That's how good he is. Thank you for saying it.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
From that moment, when the forty nine ers were up
fourteen to nothing, they got outscored twenty seven to ten
by a Rams team missing Pukainakua, Cooper Cup and three
of its five offensive linemen. They say, Houston, we got
a problem. I say, San Francisco, you got a problem.
Your special teams is horrible, Your defense with fancy new coordinators.

(19:57):
While Steve Wilkes got bad last year as the as
as you know, I don't want to say the scapegoat,
but clearly as someone who was quote not a good fit,
your defense was one hundred percent healthy. Your special teams
were one hundred percent healthy. Are they still the favorite

(20:20):
in the NFC?

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Ephraim Well, the one thing we do know about this
Shanahan McVeigh, Uh, you know, competition, Yes. No matter how
good the San Francisco for the nine ers are, they

(20:42):
struggle with the rems. Uh.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
My man, look at the record now. They lost that
NFC championship game there three years ago. Outside of that,
I think this is the second time that Sean McVay
has beaten Kyle Shanahan in about twelve tries.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
Are the games close.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Yes, do they know each other well like no other,
But ah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Man to you to your point in terms of Atlanta scores,
they really doing about driving down to fill with ease.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Good gracious. Drake London, Kirk Cousins, huh and Drake London,
by the way, just want to make sure everyone knows
he found a new way to celebrate. Didn't want anyone
to get nervous there.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Everything's fine's good, everything's okay. But when you look at
the prob first of all, shout out to Matthew Stafford's
he's a gamer. And you if you knew Matthew Stafford
and watched him in Detroit, you knew he was a gamer.
Because everything went wrong in Detroit. Matthew Stafford for twelve

(21:54):
years had to do every single thing you can possibly do.
I believe he leads the league in fourth quarter comebacks
or overtime comebacks since he's been in the league because
of the twelve years he spent in Detroit and him
having to move mountains. That's just what he does. And
so when that game was coming down to it and

(22:18):
the Niners couldn't put it away, I said, oh, they're
in trouble. I said, this is this man thrives in
situations like this, and look shout out to Brock Purty.
He played as he did.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
I mean, he was fantastic, he was fair, he was
almost perfect, almost perfect.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
So don't get to you know, you know how when
they lose everything, swell, well you Brock pretty cad. He's
missing weapons and it happens like that for him for
whatever reason. But it's not his fault.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Eight incompletions, six registered drops, rushed for forty one yards,
three touchdown.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Passes and everything you could ask.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Absolutely a fantastic stick football.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
Game, do you know. I mean just watching him play,
no matter what, no matter if the defense isn't holding
their endo the bargain, no matter if receivers are dropping
or running backs or fumbling whatever that is. It reminds us.
It reminds me of our show, right, Like if I'm
not bringing my A game right, if you are not

(23:24):
bringing your A game right, and we can't carry each other,
we have someone we know who can carry the load,
and that's one Steven l the saga.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
Well, then there we go. Good evening, gentlemen, it's good
to hear you. And two items to pass along. Shall
I from a Bay Area AP writer that brock party
today and the loss had three touchdown passes no interceptions.
The forty nine Ers record when they had a quarterback
throw three or more touchdown passes with no interceptions was.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Eighty one and three all time. Damn until today?

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Good maybe one and four and one.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Of those losses.

Speaker 6 (24:03):
What's with Jim Plunkett back in the nineteen seventies, so
my goodness. Also, the writer points out that the Niners
now have lost the last couple of weeks, and in
those games, they've had a punt block, they've allowed a
fake punt for a first down on a touchdown drive,
gave up this thirty eight yard punt return to set
up a game winning field goal. Also had missed a

(24:24):
fifty five yard field goal that could have sealed the win.
And Brandon Aiyuk has less than fifty yards receiving in
three straight games to open the season. But I'm sure
he's enjoying the money. Meanwhile, Sam Darnold is three and
oh so far this year, and Gino Smith is three
and oh, and Justin Fields is three and oh. The
Tennessee Titans are oh and three so far. We've only

(24:46):
had one season in the entire Super Bowl era where
we're down to just one oh to three team this
early in the season here. But the Bengals could win
tomorrow and get win number one. Jaguars could win tomorrow
and they're not playing each other for those on a
we have two games coming up Monday night, owing to
Jacksonville at Buffalo seven to thirty pm Eastern and then
starting at eight to fifteen Eastern, and it's oh and

(25:08):
two Cincinnati hosting Washington, and Bengals wide receiver T Higgins
will be active after the hamstring injury. The win for
the Rams in La came on a field goal in
the final seconds twenty seven to twenty four over San Francisco.
The Rams scored thirteen points in the last six and
a half minutes. Kyra and Williams three touchdowns, two TD
runs and a TD reception. They're in the opening minutes

(25:30):
of the Sunday night football game at Atlanta, and straight
down the field went the Falcons. They're up seven to
nothing on the Kansas City Chiefs. On the opening drive
of the night, seven plays, seventy yards and Kirk Cousins
fourteen yard touchdown pass to Drake London. Earlier, it was
Detroit winning at Arizona twenty to thirteen. David Montgomery one
hundred five yards rushing in a score. Carolina thirty six

(25:52):
twenty two winners at Las Vegas. The Panthers had only
scored thirteen points total in their first two games. They
were outscored seven seventy three to thirteen. Andy Dalton throws
three touchdown passes in the first half this afternoon, had
three hundred nineteen yards through the air in the game.
Seattle over Miami twenty four to three, Seahawks three to zero.

(26:12):
Baltimore a twenty eight to twenty five winner at Dallas.
Derrick Henry one hundred and fifty one yards rushing and
two touchdowns. Philadelphia fifteen to twelve winners at New Orleans
Saquon Barkley two late tds. He had seventeen carries one
hundred and forty seven yards. At Minnesota, Sam Darnold four
touchdown passes, left briefly with a knee problem thirty four

(26:33):
to seven. Though Vikings beat Houston. Giants defense sacked Deshaun
Watson eight times and won at Cleveland twenty one fifteen.
Green Bays defense with eight sacks, beating Will Levis at
Tennessee thirty to fourteen. Indianapolis twenty one sixteen over Chicago.
Pittsburgh beat the Chargers twenty to ten LA. Chargers quarterback
Justin Herbert left in the second half as he aggravated

(26:56):
his ankle injury. He's in a walking boot, and Denver
won at Tampa Bay twenty six to seven. Tennessee is
up to number five in the new AP College Football Poll.
To Major League Baseball, the Twins have just dropped the
second game and dropped a double header at Boston after
the rainout yesterday. We have one week left in the
regular season. Tigers won today at Baltimore four to three.

(27:17):
The Detroit Tigers, out of nowhere the last month plus,
are now a game up on Minnesota for the final
AL Wild Cards bought Mariners two games behind, and absolute
magic at Dodgers Stadium today, Down five to four, bottom
of the ninth against Colorado, Shohei Otani leads off the
inning with his fifty third home run of the season.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Five to five.

Speaker 6 (27:39):
Mookie Betts follows with a home run to left to
win six five LA. Earlier, the Padres had won their
fourth game in a row. Dodgers are still just three
games over the Padres in the N West standings, and
starting Tuesday, it's the Padres at the Dodgers in the
Sunday night game, fifth inning. The Mets are hosting the Phillies.
And it is one going back to you.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Oh, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Yeah, if for the baseball it's boring crowd, Yeah, just
show up for one player.

Speaker 7 (28:09):
Just show up for one player. It might be I
don't you know. I know, I give you too. I'll
give you Aaron, I give you sure, Sure, that's fair.
But but this is different, and uh, this is different.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
And I know people want to get into hyperbole, which
may well be correct, like this is all happening. This
excitement is being generated while he's not even pitching, Like,
let's not forget next year. In theory he'll also pitch,
so I don't know if he'll go down in the end.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
Is the greatest player of all time or whatever? The man?

Speaker 2 (28:40):
The excitement factor okay, and this is coming from a
Giants fan. The excitement factor is just I can't even
get over it.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
The guys had him. You guys had a shat.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Oh yeah, we're so close. Yeah, just just I'm told
a whisker away.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
He was like, down the West coast, you guys are
he sure did? He sure did. He's like, huh, let's see.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
Best picture sparking baseball. Nah, skip it.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
But anyway, Umm, incredible, He's incredible. It's pretty hard in
the sport of baseball to have that kind of a
wow factor because I just look at it from the
standpoint of in any regular game, especially as a DH
three hour, two and a half hour baseball game, how
many of those minutes is show hey performance?

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Right? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (29:28):
Six, maybe four?

Speaker 3 (29:33):
But like, damn, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
It'd be like if Patrick Mahomes is playing right now
only came in for four plays.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Only third downs. I only come in third down, just
like it's really something. If that was the case, then
the first two downs they would just take a knee
and then just have him come in third down.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
That's crazy, man, all right, Tyreck dot Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
Okay, let's reboot.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
The cool thing to do in the NFC is to
be a former first round draft pick of the New
York Jets and then be let go because there's only
two three and oh teams left and they're run by
Sam Darnold and Gino Smith. So again, let's let's go
back to that question. You know, we're getting into that
forty nine Ers game. Are they still the favorite? They're

(30:21):
in fourth place in their division at this hour. The
Saints and Bucks were the early like.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
Ooh they both lost today, Lions with a nice win
back on track, Cowboys one and two, Eagles pulled one out.
But there are questions.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
And then again the two teams that aren't three and oh,
I don't think anyone really uber believes in the Packers
quietly lost their quarterback and have gone to and oh.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
Since what's happening? How about that they're starting? They didn't
win with Jordan Love, correct, and you know the lost
lost without them. The other one of those throwaway guys
at Malik willis, look, man, I equate it to being

(31:11):
in a relationship. And I do this a lot when
I'm talking sports, because not everybody played sports, but pretty
much everybody's been in a relationship knows what that feels like.
And if you've been in a trauma filled relationship and
you get out of it and you move on and

(31:35):
you find someone that just says, hey, I just love
you for you and I want to see you happy.
At first, you don't quite understand it. You don't know
what that is because it's weird. But then you're able
to tap into something that you may not even know

(32:00):
you had in you, your full potential. And that's what's
happening around the league. And that may take a long time.
Took Geno nine years to realize that I am someone,
I am special and I can do this at a
high level. And you know, case in point, we're watching

(32:23):
Kirk Cousins, even though he's been compensated. Nobody's ever been like,
you know, even Atlanta. They gave him a bunch of money,
but then they drafted his replacement, right. So it's just
you want to have someone wrap their arms around you,
look at you in the face and say, hey man,

(32:44):
we believe in you and you are enough and cut
out all of we don't care who you were with before.
Let's start fresh and new. And I love that about
sports because one man's trash is another man's treasure. One
teams ashes another team's treasure and you get to see

(33:04):
it firsthand in sport live and in front of everybody.
Then you start questioning the person in the previous relationship
well what they was really what was going on over there? Right?
So now everybody's looking at Chicago and everybody's looking at
the Jets, Like the Jets somewhere, Zach Wilson is saying, yes,

(33:26):
so you're saying I have a chance. Zach Wilson is
sitting somewhere going so you're saying, I have a chance.
And you know, technically, yes, it's not at a great one.
But wouldn't you have said that about Gino for sure?

(33:46):
Wouldn't he have said that about Sam?

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (33:50):
I mean Zach Wilson has been on league three years. Yep. Yeah,
So there is an opportunity and salvage for some of
these quarterbacks who feel like it just never I was
just never good enough. And look, I love that because

(34:12):
everybody should have an opportunity. You know, even you know,
Bryce Young, I'm pretty sure they're done with that experiment.
Now it's only been not even two years or you know,
he really hasn't been in the league like.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
That, Yeah a year in two games.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
But if they have success with Andy Dalton, which I
think they will say, they squeak into the playoffs with Andy.
There's no scenario where I believe Bryce Young plays again
for them. I agree with that. I mean, yeah, of course,

(34:54):
like I just don't know. Andy Dalton may not be
the guy for the next you know, five ten years, Well,
of course not. But they've answered the question depending on
how this shakes out, that it's not, Bryce Young.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
I love your concept, especially in that division. Look, it's
now with Dalton in the fold. It is four teams
with four big name record who have all been kicked
to the curb, many of whom, if not all, I
think Baker Mayfield tell me if I'm wrong. All of

(35:29):
them have led teams to the playoffs before, Yes, and
they've all been kicked out and now here they are.
Now Here they are in suddenly a competitive division, especially
if the Falcons win this game tonight and they do
lead seven to nothing at this point. So okay, we'll
continue this conversation about what's real and what's imagined in

(35:54):
an NFC that, through three weeks has been dumped out
on the floor, so that you can restart your puzzle.
That's what's coming up next, along with e from Salama
Mark Willard.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
It's Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (36:08):

Speaker 2 (36:20):
These arethetirag dot com studios. Mark willard E from Salamweek three.
National Football League never fails to uh to give us
plenty to talk about, So so hit me, man, I mean, like,
are your thoughts like we're focused right now in the NFC.

(36:40):
Patrick Mahomes just got picked off in the end zone,
by the way, Falcons lead seven to nothing. Steve Disaga
along in ten minutes with more details on that and
more your expectations in the NFC? Are you still for
the moment locked in on argue there were four teams

(37:01):
that we were really expecting to be the teams and
that would be San Francisco, Green Bay, Detroit and Philadelphia.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Are those still your favorites?

Speaker 3 (37:17):
I mean you would have to. Of course, that makes sense,
right because that's for all intense purposes. That's safe. Yep,
it's safe. And so when you look at the NFC,

(37:40):
you know, we didn't know we were like, Okay, was
Seattle Fluke was it? You know, it's geno for real,
Minnesota didn't expect them to do anything, especially when j
McCarthy went down was JJ McCarthy went down and Sam
Donald was there, and we felt good that Philly was

(38:05):
gonna bounce back. They made some changes, some office, defensive
coordinator changes, getting Saquon Barkley. You felt they stepped in
the right direction and expecting a lot out of Baker
and of course Detroit with how they showed out and
you know, almost did the unthinkable. So what you didn't

(38:30):
expect after three weeks San Francisco to be twelfth, Dallas
to be fifteenth, you know, and this is the thing
I love about football, right, so to simplify it, I'll
tell you this. This is what coaches do. Coaches don't

(38:50):
talk about we need to win ten games, We need
to do this, we need to do that. Coaches talk
about they cut the season into fourths, fourths right into quarters.
We gotta win the first quarter. And what do I
mean by that? Winning the first quarter would be you

(39:14):
go three and one. You won the first quarter. Now
you try to win the second quarter, right, and as
you stack these quarters on top of yourself, you're giving
yourself the right amount of runway to really take fight
and head into the playoffs. So after three weeks, you know,

(39:39):
if you're one and two. You can't win it. You
can just break even, which is not the end of
the world because you can, right like, you can muddle around.
You can break even into of these quarters and then
win one and so on and so forth and find
yourself falling into the playoffs. So coaches are going to

(40:02):
have a different type of energy next week because next
week is important because technically no one has lost the
first quarter yet, So you're going to put everything you
have into at least breaking even for those teams, you know,

(40:25):
San Francisco, the Dallas Cowboys, teams like that. You gotta
break even and then we gotta win the second quarter.
This is the conversation. So you're gonna see a sense
of urgency. So heading into the second quarter, you'll start
figuring out who's who and what teams are doing what.

(40:48):
That makes all the sense in the world. That makes
all the sense in the world.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
It is still very very early, but concerns start to
perk up a little bit.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
Oh yeah, I mean Cowboys have given up ninety points. Yeah,
in three games, given up ninety points. So all right,
much more on that.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
But also coming up next, one of the AFC quarterbacks
suddenly has some question marks.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
We'll ask those coming up.

Speaker 2 (41:16):

Ephim not his fault by any stretch today. In fact,

(41:41):
he came into this game undefeated on the season until
a loss today. And I know that he was hurt
before the game was started, and he was hurt even
more in the game, and I've been told that he
was in a walking boot after the game. And I'd
be very prized if he doesn't now miss some time,

(42:03):
maybe even multiple games. And I'm talking about Justin Herbert.
But I do think it's time for some questions there.
And I've seen other players around the league have it
sort of held against them when they quote can't stay healthy.
But even aside from that, like is this guy who

(42:24):
we thought he was over the last few years when
the disappointment in the standings was never really held against him.
It would be pointed toward the organizational structure or what
have you. But I would argue a quarterback who had

(42:45):
all the weapons that he would need early in his career,
Keenan Allen and Mike Williams and Austin Eckler in the
backfield and all the things that he's at at his disposal.
Still no playoff wins, only one playoff appearance, and now
Jim Harbaugh comes in, turns it into a running team.
They're off to a good start, but now it sort
of feels a little bit wobbly out of the gate.

Speaker 4 (43:07):
With today's developments.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
What are your current feelings on the career arc of
Justin Herbert?

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Look I like Justin Herbert. I like Justin Herbert because
I mean, just looking at his numbers, nobody's thrown for
more yards on the first three or four years of
their career than he has. Now, he's had some of
the worst coaching you can have, and we know that
Brandon Staley was I can't even put into words the

(43:38):
amount of ways that he could dream up to lose
a game defensively. It just as a defensive coach, you
would think at least that part of that side of
the ball was effective, which it wasn't. Some of the

(43:59):
decision making it was a myriad of things, and so
I think Justin Herbert is that guy. I think he
can be that guy. They haven't had the success they've expected,
but they also haven't had the leadership that they needed
for it. Said success, and having Harball come in, be

(44:20):
more run centric centric and have him making timely throws
because he can make every throw. We've seen him make
every throw. Have him come in and make timely throws
is how Harball structures his teams. We know this, and

(44:41):
I think if he can stay healthy. I mean, he's
getting hit, but he's getting he's getting hit a lot, yep.
And the thing with quarterbacks who can make every throw,
they tend to hold the ball just a tad bit
too long because you're always looking to make the throw, yep.

(45:02):
And so just getting him used to being on time
in terms of getting rid of the ball will save him.
But look, there's a myriad of teams out there who
would sign up for Justin Herbert.

Speaker 4 (45:17):
I can tell you that sure, Oh gosh yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
Like by no stretch, am I suggesting that we're questioning
whether or not he's good. What's interesting to me is
when you go through the league sort of figuring out
when does a quarterback bear responsibility for something? And when
does he not like to me? And I'm not saying

(45:40):
this is fair or even right. I'm just talking about
the way our world works. We know that the eyeballs,
the attention, the credit, and the blame skew way too
heavy in the direction of the quarterback. Although you and
I started off the show sort of detailing how there's
absolutely no way that you can diminish their importance, I

(46:03):
just mean wins, losses, etc. We tend to not really
be able to contextually go too far beyond quarterback, head
coach and then that usually that's it. That's as far
as we're going to assess things. For some reason, I'm
even looking at quarterbacks who are doing well, you know

(46:23):
what I mean. Like take Jalen Hurts for example. Jalen
Hurts is two and one. If it's a bottom line business, well,
Jalen Hurts has been to a Super Bowl. Jalen Hurts
has been to multiple playoffs. Jalen Hurts is two and
one this year and in first place. But right now
walking through Philadelphia, there's not a lot of comfort in

(46:49):
being Jalen Hurts. What is it about? Justin Herbert that
has given him the immunity.

Speaker 3 (46:56):
Belt because of the like I would probably say, the
history of the franchise he's playing for has a lot
to do with it. It. We saw justin Herbert his

(47:18):
first start when Tyrod Taylor had a punctured lung and
they were playing Kansas City and they tapped him on
the sideline and said, hey, you gotta you gotta start today.
And he went out and beat the Chiefs and Patrick
Mahomes and everybody was like, whoa wait a minute. And

(47:42):
then he proceeded to break the rookie records for passing,
so on and so forth, and there was a glimmer
of hope, and then that hope was dashed by you know,
organizational things in terms of coaching, you know, scheme. With
all of that he put up, the numbers just didn't
have anything to show for it. Well, on the flip

(48:05):
side of that, you know, people equate like Philly is
Philly now okay, Like you know, we know the boots
Santa Claus throw the batteries at you with the snowballs.
We know Philly is a lot more aggressive of a
place than a no mad homeless Charger team. Where is

(48:31):
the Chargers fan base.

Speaker 2 (48:32):
Well, there's your answer right there, and I know that
there will be people listening who will maybe be sort
of like kind of offended by this.

Speaker 3 (48:41):
Well they know the truth, they really well.

Speaker 2 (48:43):
And so yes, I know there are people who call
the Chargers their team, but when you collectively want to
refer to the fan base, it doesn't exist.

Speaker 4 (48:55):
It doesn't exist rarely.

Speaker 2 (48:56):
Is there actually what we would call in the NFL
a home environment for the Chargers that rarely exists, that
exists sort of like if the Jags visit LA. There
are a couple other teams out there that can visit
LA and it actually be a traditional home environment. So
you have no home field advantage, and you also you

(49:20):
have no pressure, Like you have no pressure. Nobody is
there to get angry or question anything or nountability.

Speaker 3 (49:31):
It's accountab.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
There's no drum beat, there's no like sports radio following
the Chargers and angry caller like, there's none.

Speaker 4 (49:40):
They're just it doesn't exist.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
So that that becomes I would imagine, at least from
that corner of the world, a pretty comfortable place for
Justin Herbert.

Speaker 3 (49:49):
Well, yeah, because you get to live and you get
to make mistakes and you know, try to write those
mistakes without the pressure of do it now right, because
think about it. If it were that type of pressure
and fan base, they would have replaced Brandon Saley years ago.

(50:09):
Remember they got rid of all of the coaches except
for him, and we said on now, I said, well,
well that doesn't make sense. You don't cut the body
of the snake off and then add a new body
and the head is the same. And it panned out

(50:30):
exactly how we thought it was gonna pan out. Sore,
but there, like, I just imagine if they were fan outrage,
Like if when you moved them to Los Angeles and
you played at a tennis stadium, do you think you
can do that in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh or Kansas City?

(50:57):
Do you think you could play your home games in
a tennis stadium and people be okay with that? Oh?
Not only that one hundred and twenty miles away from home. Yep.
So the Chargers are able to get away with a
lot of things other fan bases wouldn't have. Oh no,

(51:20):
we're not doing that. You think you can do that
to Buffalo? No? Man. I was in London last year
for the Buffalo Jaguars game. Man it was rocket in
there with Buffalo fans in London.

Speaker 2 (51:37):
Oh, of course, I would say there are four franchises
in the entire NFL where you're kind of tucked into
a not that pressurized environment.

Speaker 4 (51:52):
It's both of the teams in LA.

Speaker 2 (51:55):
And again I'm not saying that this means that nobody's
there to root for them.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
You know, there are levels to this.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Sixty five percent of that building today with San Francisco
forty nine er fans, that's not me eyeballing it. That's
using data from the actual ticket agencies. Like they're just
you know, they won a Super Bowl. The parade was
just more kind of like a barbecue.

Speaker 3 (52:19):
Right.

Speaker 2 (52:19):
So it's both the LA teams, It's the Cardinals and
the Jags. Outside of that, there's there's like sizeable passionate
moving groups.

Speaker 3 (52:33):
Yeah, you have you have to appease your fan base
when you're making decisions, and you don't care how your
fan base feels. That's what the Chargers do. And that's
why Justin Herbert doesn't get what you know, you know, Phillies,

(52:55):
Justin I mean, Jalen hurtskids, right, that's why because you
can get away with it, that's all. And that's a
that's a real thing. There's no accountability. This'spano's family has
been doing whatever they wanted.

Speaker 2 (53:14):
I mean he can do whatever they do, whatever they
want to do.

Speaker 3 (53:20):
Oh, it's crazy. Now. I think with hardball being there,
it's a little different. It's a little different because he's
bringing a different type of a different level of accountability
and energy into the building that needed it. Right, So

(53:40):
he himself has some and checks and balances that need
to be checked off. It's some things that you need
to adhere to to be on his football team. And
I think the Chargers need that. They need that type
of leadership. Are they just just keep doing what they've
been doing?

Speaker 2 (54:00):
Yeah, well, I mean they're going to be in football games.
They're averaging. Their defense is giving up eleven points a game.
By the way, you keep mentioning Brandon Staley, who is
a defensive coach and left the Chargers, and I'll repeat.

Speaker 4 (54:12):
They're now allowing eleven points a game. And do you
know where Brandon Staley ended up? You know where he
is right now, Thailand.

Speaker 3 (54:21):
No, he is not. He has a job.

Speaker 2 (54:23):
He is actually he is not a defensive coordinator, but
he is the lead assistant to the defensive coordinator with
the San Francisco forty nine ers. How's it going? How's
it going?

Speaker 6 (54:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (54:39):
Yeah, yeah yeah. All right.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
If we had given you a scenario that has actually played.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
Out, it's reality. But if we had said it to
you three weeks ago, you would have.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
Said, ooh, quarterback controversy with that team. But I don't
know if there actually is. Let's find out if there
is one. We'll talk about that coming up next with
Ephrom Salam Mark Willard, Fox Sports Radio. Another touchdown for
the Falcons. It's now fourteen to seven Sunday Night Football.
Steve de Seger eight minutes away live tie rack dot

(55:14):
Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (55:17):
All Right, man, what do you do.

Speaker 4 (55:18):
With Russell Wilson?

Speaker 3 (55:19):
Now? You hold on to them and hope that Justin
Fields doesn't get hurt hurt? Okay, I mean you're paying
a backup quarterback a million dollars. Yep, that's it. That's it.
You got to take the name recognition off of it. Right.
You have a team that's really working, it's moving for

(55:41):
whatever reason. Justin Fields fits.

Speaker 4 (55:48):
I mean, it's funny, it does. They look they're three
and oh and it is a results based business and
they are three and oh and we have already detailed
that the quarterback gets a bunch of credit whether he
deserves it or not. And I'm not saying he doesn't.

Speaker 2 (56:08):
I do just want to, like, let's take a look
at the three games, and I'd like to know if
this is sustainable because in the three games, Justin Fields
is in charge of the offense, and the offense has
scored fifty one points. That is, that is seventeen points

(56:30):
per game, which is fine, guess is it? I mean,
look again, the defense is allowed twenty six points in
three games.

Speaker 4 (56:43):
That is the Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
Burg Steelers. Though, this is right, right, So this is
not an aborigine. This is not like, well, I don't
know how they're doing this. It's the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yeah,
they this is what they do. Yes, Ben Roethlisberger was
able to be Ben Roethlisberger as a rookie because of

(57:06):
the defense. Yes, there's been three head coaches because of
the defense they made the they have never Mike Tumlan
has never ever lost a season. He's never had a losing.

Speaker 4 (57:25):
Season and he won't this year either.

Speaker 3 (57:28):
Would that be because of the defense or the offense.
Now some years it's a combination of both.

Speaker 2 (57:34):
It's usually traditionally because of the defense, because you.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
Have to have it no matter what, of course, no
matter what your offense can do, no matter how many
points you can put up, you gotta have. You gotta
be able to get stops at San Francisco today.

Speaker 4 (57:50):
Well asked the Dallas Cowboys last year.

Speaker 2 (57:53):
You can, you can get to the playoffs, but you
can't win in the playoffs unless you can stop other.

Speaker 3 (57:59):
People got that. The Pittsburgh Steelers are built for the playoffs.
You know why, because defense travels. There is no crowd noise,
there isn't any of that. Your defense travels. It goes
with you. I've always said a young quarterback's best friend

(58:22):
is a defense. Yep, running back and tight end, offensive line, yes,
we need those, but to not always have to play
from behind is a godsend for a young quarterback. Trying
to figure it out to be constantly in games and

(58:43):
not have to pass the ball forty five fifty times
is a godsend. Yeah, that is how right? Like justin
field through the ball thirty two times, they ren the
ball thirty one times. That's called balance. That's called balance.

Speaker 2 (59:10):
You know what I keep thinking of when I look
at this team because it's three and zero and it's
only week three. But I want to circle back to
something that you and I talked about off the top
of the show, and I'll say it slower and louder
if I need to. If you broke off twenty eight,
twenty nine thirty million plus for your receiver, you messed up.

Speaker 3 (59:37):
Period.

Speaker 2 (59:38):
That doesn't mean that if you did it, you can't win.
It doesn't mean that they won't perform.

Speaker 3 (59:44):
Say the weekend.

Speaker 4 (59:45):
We're not saying that they're very good players.

Speaker 2 (59:47):
The point is, do you know how many different places
I could go around on a football field and point
to and be like, would rather put money there, would
rather put money there, would rather put money over there.

Speaker 4 (59:58):
I'd rather put money at the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
I would rather put I would rather put at the quarterback, quarterback,
and left tackle, left tackle, edge.

Speaker 4 (01:00:07):
Rusher, cornerback, middle linebacker.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
I would rather put money in all of those places.
Prior to getting a receiver. What were the Steelers doing
all August? What were they doing? You can ask any
Steeler fan. You all were begging and hoping and pleading
to get Brandon Nyuk in a trade. You had Mike

(01:00:33):
Garatfolo and Ian Rappaport and Jay Glazer literally to the
point of exhaustion because of the Brandon Nyuk story and
whether he would get traded, and had the Niners and
Steelers come to an agreement and now we've got to
decide this that And that's what the Steelers were doing
because the word from Pittsburgh was we have no receiving core.
Like George Pickens is nice, he's young, he's volatile, but

(01:00:57):
we have like no receiving core. Well you're three and zero,
but Ceedee Lamb held out one and two, Brandon Aiyuk
held out one and two. I'm looking around who else
who else made?

Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:01:17):
I'm sorry, that's right.

Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
Jamar Chase out oh and two and loud about it, like.

Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
The receivers matter, hey man, this much? No not, they
do not matter this much. And I love what Pittsburgh
is doing. I love the fact that it's ugly, it's
not sexy. Justin Field, justin Fields, man. And we saw
this towards the end of the year in Chicago. That's

(01:01:50):
why people were like, well, should they keep them? Should they? Right?
Like we, hey man, look it is what it is,
and we can we can after Steve, we can talk
about you know, Caleb, we talk about yes, yes, yes,
because I have some thoughts there, but we're not writing
those guys off after three games. Justin Fields and we

(01:02:12):
talked about this in the preseason. Neither one of them
blew me away. But what I did say about justin
Fields was it was exciting. Yeah, when the pocket broke down,
which it did a lot, he extended plays. If you
can do that, then you have a chance. But it
wasn't like he was extending plays and running down the field.

(01:02:37):
He was actually passing from the pocket. He only has
six carries for six yards, that's it, but he threw
for two hundred and forty five yards and a touchdown.
That's justin Filds. We're talking about three and Oho. There
is no quarterback controversy. There's justin Fils and you have

(01:02:59):
a really good, seasoned backup quarterback who you're not paying
any money. Perfect situations, perfect, perfect for them. Just like
every thirty minutes past the hour, we walk into a
perfect situation. And that's we get to hear from my

(01:03:20):
guy Steven p this say.

Speaker 6 (01:03:24):
Good evening again, gentlemen, You had talked earlier about the
Cowboys and all the points they've been given up, even
before they gave up the four touchdowns today and lost
to Baltimore. In their last two home games, including that
playoff loss, Dallas had allowed ninety two points, which is
their most over any two game span at home since
nineteen sixty, which was their inaugural season. And you talked

(01:03:48):
about the defense of Pittsburgh. They've scored about fifty points
so far this season total in three games, and they're
not just three and zero, they have a two game
lead in the division already. As asolute favorite stat going
into this weekend was about coach Mike Tomlin's teams win.
His club scores one offensive TD or less, he has

(01:04:10):
a winning record. The rest of the NFL has a
winning percentage of two twenty seven in that scenario since
Tomlin was hired over fifteen years ago. And sure enough
today it's mid fourth quarter, they have only one touchdown
and they were winning. Eventually it was ten points in
the fourth quarter and twenty to ten the final over
the Chargers in Pittsburgh. Today, quarterback Justin Fields is three

(01:04:33):
to zero with the Steelers had a touchdown run touchdown pass,
one interception, Pittsburgh's d with five sacks. Quarterback Justin Herbert
of the Chargers left in the second half aggravated an
ankle injury. He's in a walking boot, and linebacker Joey
Bosa left with a hip injury. The Charger offense with
ten drives ten first downs. Dallas lost at home twenty

(01:04:54):
eight to twenty five to Baltimore Derrick Henry one hundred
and fifty one yards rushing and two scores. Ravens led
twenty one to three late in the first half and
it was twenty eight to six with under ten minutes
to go. One thing about the Cowboys they have a
very impressive and entertaining kicker. Brandon Aubrey. Yes, one of
the guys from the Spring League, kicked a sixty five
yard field goal today. The league record is sixty six

(01:05:17):
rams on a field goal in the final seconds. Beat
San Francisco twenty seven to twenty four, Detroit at twenty
to thirteen, winner at Arizona, and Carolina got three touchdown
passes in the first half from Andy Dalton and won
at Las Vegas thirty six twenty two. Miami quarterback Skyler
Thompson left at Seattle with a chest injury, and running
back Rahem Moster was already out with a chest injury.

(01:05:39):
Seattle twenty four to three over the Dolphins. Seahawks are
three to zero as for the Sunday night game. They're
currently in the two minute warning late first half at Atlanta.
Falcons fourteen to ten over the Chiefs. Kirk Cousins with
a touchdown pass of fourteen yards to Drake London on
the first drive of the night, be John Robbinson a
one yard touchdown run. Patrick Mahomes has one interception and

(01:06:00):
also a touchdown pass of thirteen yards to Rashi Rice.
It's fourteen ten now Falcons because Harrison Bucker late first
half kicked a fifty three yard field goal. Victories for
Philadelphia and Minnesota wins for the Giants and Green Bay
wins for the Colts and the Denver Broncos, who won
twenty six to seven at Tampa Bay. Will Lutz four

(01:06:21):
for four on field goals as Baker Mayfield was sacked
seven times by Denver. Tennessee is up to number five
in the new AP College Football Full Poll. The top
four stayed the same, led by number one Texas. Then
it's Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama WNBA playoffs started today. Yes,
Indiana played and they got killed at Connecticut ninety three

(01:06:42):
sixty nine Caitlin Clark from three point range two for thirteen.
She had eleven points, eight assists. And the Sunday night
ballgames in New York bottom of the eighth, the Mets
are leading to to one over the Phillies. Braves already
won today. Braves were two games outs of the last
NL wildcard spot and starting on Tuesday, that's at Braves
and Met Star short Stuff. Francisco Lindor with the sore

(01:07:03):
back is out perhaps until Tuesday. In that game at Atlanta,
Dodgers hit back to back solo Homer's bottom of the
ninth beat Colorado six ' five show, Hey Otani's fifty
third of the year, and then Mookie Betts with the
game winner.

Speaker 4 (01:07:16):
Back to you, all right, great step, Steve appreciated.

Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
As always, Thank you, Steve ty Raq dot com Studios. Okay,
let's talk about Caleb Williams. We'll see Jayden Daniels tomorrow night.
Bo Nicks a difficult first three week stretch until today
until today. JJ McCarthy obviously is not going to play
football this year, but kind of looking at the at

(01:07:42):
the rookie QBS Drake May got in on Thursday night.
I don't know if you hung out all long enough
to see that.

Speaker 3 (01:07:49):
Oh yeah I did.

Speaker 4 (01:07:50):
My man almost got himself killed.

Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
I was just like, you know, like it's all to
me one of the things you really noticed. And this
is not going to be some wow opinion or whatever.
But all of these guys can throw, they've all got
great arms, but vision and sort of that intuitive awareness
of what's going on in the pocket. To me, that's

(01:08:14):
the entire key to quarterbacking. I know everyone wants someone
who can run. Now, Tom Brady couldn't move, he was
a statue, but his movement within the pocket to avoid
things was absolutely brilliant and next level. And that's what
I see around the league that a lot of these
young guys or backups just flat out don't have. And

(01:08:35):
you see it from Caleb Williams especially. I think that
there's still a future of for sure. I don't know
where this is going for Caleb, but right now he
just looks to me like someone who's realizing the things
he could do in college that don't work, and he's
still working through that.

Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, Look he has unbelievable talent. Okay, that's
not a question. The problem I'm having what's going on
in Chicago is they have to figure out a way.
First of all, I'm not satisfied with the offensive coordinator,

(01:09:15):
play the scheme, play calling. To me, you're exposing him
to too much. He was sacked again four times. Of course,
he's holding on to the ball a little bit too
long for my liking. But this young man in a
one score game threw the ball fifty two times. He

(01:09:45):
threw the ball fifty two times. They ran the ball
twenty eight times, eight times. You're going to get him killed.
Three things can happen when you pass the ball. Two
of them are bad. And so if they don't figure

(01:10:09):
out a way, their defense plays pretty well. They do.
Defense keeps them in it, So you have to know
that and lean on them. You cannot keep putting your
quarterback in harm's way, right like, you have to be

(01:10:31):
able to chip right like. I would prefer them handing
the ball off two times on first down and get
four yards and make it third and six, opposed to
passing on first down sack or something. Now it's second
and fifteen, holding penalty first and twenty, So you have

(01:10:54):
to start playing the percentages. We have to put them
in positions where we can get the ball out of
his hands in a manageable down and distance. It's gotta happen,
because if it doesn't, and you asked Caleb Williams to
throw the ball fifty two times a Sunday, he's not

(01:11:17):
going to survive.

Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
It's too many.

Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Uh, There's there's no question about that. This is the
franchise that that.

Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
Was of Walter Payton.

Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
I just don't recognize this brand of Bears football who
gave up on David Montgomery so that he could be
a star on a different team within the division. Those
resources that you used, I know it was a trade,
but the resources you used to go get Keenan Allen
should have been used to, for instance, overpay Saquon bar Man.

Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
I would have gave him everything, like kid if you.

Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
Put well, especially like if you were going to go
draft Roma Doonsay and break off DJ More one of
those contracts.

Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
What exactly did you think that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Always hurt Keidan Allen was going to provide you were
going to provide a nice coach on the sidelines, coaching
the young receivers in his hat in Jersey, because that's
what it is. Well, then then then wait a year
or two and hire him as a consultant.

Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
I don't know. And that's like that just you got it.
You can't ask Caleb Williams. And I know everybody thinks
he's the the second Coming, and he may very well
turn out to be that, but not today and not
this year. Not today and not this year. So to
ask this young man to throw the ball fifty two

(01:12:45):
times is out of control. To me. It's a recipe
for a disaster. And twenty nine the first week, thirty seven,
the next week, fifty two this week. Do you see
a pattern? Yes?

Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
Yes, you have an organization that is leaning too hard,
way too much on him, on a player who has
played three football games in his life.

Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
I mean, they're dumping everything on his shoulders in saying
save us, and that is not how you do this.

Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
Speaking of young quarterbacks, one of them is going to
be ready to go at some point, and what do
you do with him if things keep going the way
they're going.

Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
I'll tell you what I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (01:13:41):
Coming up here in just a second, we're live in
the Tirack dot Com studios with e from Salama, Mark Willard.

Speaker 4 (01:13:46):
Week three Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
Okay, it's the Tireck dot Com Studios, Week three Red
Zone Radio.

Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
We're watching Sunday Night football.

Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
The Falcons lead the Chiefs fourteen to ten, but the
Chiefs right now in the high red final seconds of
the first half. We will keep you up to date
and Steve de Sega will be along in about thirteen minutes.
All right, this is a way too early conversation, but
what the hell, it's sports radio.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Let's have it.

Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
The Minnesota Vikings used a very early first round draft
pick on a quarterback. Their defense looks Pittsburgh Steelers esque.
They look really tough at home. Momentarily, I felt better
about the forty nine er loss in Minnesota last week
because I watched what Minnesota did this morning to the

(01:14:42):
Texans offense. They've given up thirty points in three games.
You don't need to be a math major to work
that out. That's really really good. They've scored eighty five,
also really good. That's number two in the entire NFL
in point differential. They are three and zero. Sam Darnold

(01:15:03):
has been really good, really good? Is he a reclamation project?
There have long been people around the league that have
always thought, boy, if Sam just got a situation, the
arm talent is really really good. I don't know where
the rest of the season is going to go, but
what happens if the Vikings have a really good season?

(01:15:25):
What happens there? Do you Green Bay Packers, JJ McCarthy,
which is to say, a first round draft pick quarterback
and you're just willing to let him.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
Sit there for I think you ride that. I think
you do. And the reason I say that is because
what do you have to lose? He's on a rookie contract,
so you're going to disturb the rhythm and flow of
the boat to prove a point to people who don't

(01:15:58):
really matter you as long as you're winning. Now, say
Sam Donald does this thing and they go deep. Since
it's too early, but since we're doing it, let's just
say they get to the NFC championship game. Okay, do
you mean to tell me you're gonna replace that quarterback?

(01:16:21):
Here's the problem with JJ McCarthy. Here's the problem. Sam
Donald is on a one year contract, So the problem
becomes if you do want to keep him.

Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
You've got to sign him, and you damn well better
believe there are going to be multi year offers out there,
because I can already tell you can look around the
league and from the Raiders to potentially the Tennessee Titans
to gosh, who knows what's going to happen in Miami. Now,

(01:16:57):
I don't even know what's going to happen in the future.
There the New York Giants, they're like the Panthers.

Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
Hell they know, Sam.

Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
I mean, you look around the league and you gotta
think there will be suitors willing to go multiple years.
And so for the Vikings to keep him, they would too.

Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
Look it, now, Sam Donald has been through the muck.
Right when they beat San Francisco, he had a lot
to say to the San Francisco coaches, Right, y'all didn't
want me, Okay, whatever. You don't want to jump out

(01:17:46):
of the spaceship before you get to your destination. Right,
So if they come to you and they want to
sign you to a two year deal for whatever the
number is that they can have, right, whatever it is,
you throw that out the window and you go play
for the Raiders, or you go play for you know whoever,

(01:18:12):
and it's just not quite the same. You find yourself
back in the hole you were in and the abusive
relationship you were in before because you're chasing something, or

(01:18:34):
you can be like I like this, they like me.
And if they're willing to give you two more years
at a great price, now your value in open market.
And because look, then JJ McCarthy can sit for three years,
he'd be a better quarterback for sitting for three years.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
I mean, Michael Pennix is I don't know when he's
going to play football.

Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
Right right, So that's not the end of the world.
It'll allow him to really be a pro and and
get to know what being a pro is about, expectations,
all of those things. And you know, God forbid, something
happened to Sam. He can step in and he can

(01:19:20):
be great. Now Sam gets hurt, he comes in, he's winning.
That's in a whole nother conversation. But as of right now,
if I'm Sam Donald and you're able to play in
a place where you feel comfortable with a great offensive
mine San Diego State, just fyre just gonna put that

(01:19:45):
out there. Astecs were everywhere. This feels home. This feels
like home, This feels safe. So I wouldn't be so quick,
No matter what my agent was saying, I wouldn't be
so quick to pack myself and run about the house.
That's all I'm saying. I hear you, man. And what
is that. No one's gonna pay Sam Donald fifty five

(01:20:05):
million dollars a year.

Speaker 4 (01:20:06):
No, no, no, no, it's not it's not going to be that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:09):
No.

Speaker 4 (01:20:09):
But you can have one of those mid tier deals.

Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
Yeah, what do you make it? Like that?

Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
The Gino Smith Baker Mayfield And that's fine. Yep, you
could get one of those. I mean, look, his career
quarterback rating is seventy nine point two. You want to
know what it is this year so far through three games,
one hundred and seventeen point three.

Speaker 3 (01:20:29):
Now, look, this is way too early to be to
be signing him up and giving them long term of course.
But what we said at the beginning of this hypothetical
is if he gets him to deep into the playoffs
and all of that, then that's a real conversation.

Speaker 5 (01:20:44):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
I wouldn't be so fast to leave if I were him. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
No, like situation for Sam Donald matters. There's no question
about that all right, We're heading into our final hour,
following along Sunday Night Football and guess what else we're
gonna do next? Oh, how about them Cowboys? That's coming up.
Let's ride. We're going through all of it and leave
it nothing out. We're broadcasting live from the ti rack

(01:21:10):
dot Com studios. Tyrack dot com. We'll help you get
there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free roadh hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Ti rack dot com
The way tire buying should be Ephraim. If people know
this show at all, you and I spent I think
a fair bit of time in the months of July

(01:21:30):
and August scratching the heads about what the Dallas Cowboys
were doing. I found it to be one of the
most awkward off seasons of anybody in the NFL. Maybe
not the most like volatile that might have gone to
the San Francisco forty nine ers, but the Cowboys sort

(01:21:51):
of like kept kicking the can down the road on
two things that we all damn well knew they were
gonna do, which is paid dot Com Prescott and Ceedee Lamb.
And then they also kicked the can down the road
literally to the point where it fell off a cliff
on things that I think people were hoping that they
would do, which is like, I don't know, address the

(01:22:13):
running back room, addressed the defense, which last year fooled everybody.
I want to say that loudly. The defense last year,
which won you a couple of fantasy games when they
happened to be facing the New York Giants, fooled everybody

(01:22:34):
because in the big moments in their season last year,
Sunday Night Football against San Francisco, Round one at home
against the Green Bay Packers, in the big moments, their
defense got absolutely exposed. The good news for them this year,
they're not hiding in the weeds.

Speaker 4 (01:22:51):
Everybody can see it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
The Dallas Cowboys are a mediocre football team right now.

Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
And you and I I don't know if.

Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
You even know this because you do a better job
of staying off Twitter than I do. But you and
I actually took some heat when they won their Week
one game in Cleveland and we sort of saw through it.
We're like, this isn't right. Something doesn't look right with
with what they're doing. And people are like, oh my gosh,
they're won by double digits on the road. Why are

(01:23:19):
you criticizing them? Well, how are we doing now? How
are we doing now? Two home games and you've given
up a goodjillion points.

Speaker 3 (01:23:30):
Look, man, what I do know for a fact is
Dallas Cowboy fans are Look, and I don't want to
be disparaging, but some of the most delusional fans on
the planet are because every year since their last Super Bowl,
they're winning the Super Bowl again. Tony Romo's gonna win

(01:23:53):
the Super Bowl. But look, they take on the energy
of their owner. And what we do know is they're
like a BBL. You know what a BBL is. A
bbut they're very popular, mostly with women, but men get bbls.

Speaker 4 (01:24:15):
Too, a big box of love.

Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
No Brazilian butt lifts. You ever been standing behind somebody
in line and it looked like they got a wagon
attached to their back and you're like, wait a minute,
that can't be your wagon. Your your axles don't even
support that. Right. To some people, bbl's look good, right,

(01:24:46):
there's no substance behind it. To some people, they're like
the bigger, the better. Oh. But to me, I'm like,
I like realness, I don't And look, it's a it's
a preference, sure, I like realness. So when they're beating
up on all these teams, you're looking at a BBL.

(01:25:13):
It's a great point. But when something real walks in
front of you, then it's like, oh, oh, I can
see the difference. I can see the difference between the
forty nine ers, I can see the difference between Dallas
and I'm speaking last year. I can see the difference
between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys. Like

(01:25:39):
I can see the difference in that. Yeah, y'all look good.
You went out and you spent a bunch of money
dak CD, bunch of money out there, made yourself look good.
At the surgery, you look good. But over time the

(01:26:00):
comes out. So for me, the Dallas Cowboys are the
BBL of the NFL.

Speaker 4 (01:26:10):
It's just a phenomenal point. If you, I mean, I
could list it for you. And there's a couple of outliers.

Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
Saturday December thirtieth last year, they took on the Detroit Lions.
You remember, remember before we made fun of Dan Campbell
for what he did in the playoffs in San Francisco.
Do you remember Saturday December thirtieth with the we're going
for two and then the penalty and we're still.

Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
Going for two going from two.

Speaker 4 (01:26:41):
From the seven yard line and lose the game by one.

Speaker 3 (01:26:44):
You remember that?

Speaker 2 (01:26:44):
Yes, all right, so there was that. So okay, you
beat Detroit partially because their coach is a crazy person.
You beat Philadelphia by twenty. That was the week after
the forty nine ers completely undressed them and ruined their season.
Outside of that, let's add in Cleveland this year. Here
is the list of who the Dallas Cowboys have defeated

(01:27:05):
in the last two years. The New York Giants twice,
the New York Jets last year with no quarterback, the
New England Patriots no quarterback. They beat the Los Angeles Chargers,
they beat the Rams, they beat the Panthers, the Commanders,
the Seahawks, and the Commanders again. That's the end of
the list. But when they played Miami on the road,

(01:27:28):
they lost. When they played Buffalo on the road, they
lost by three touchdowns. When they went to Philadelphia before
the forty nine ers undressed them, they lost. When they
went to San Francisco, they lost by thirty two. And
then this year when they're home to the New Orleans
Saints and the Baltimore Ravens, two teams I believe to

(01:27:51):
be real.

Speaker 4 (01:27:52):
They lost.

Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
The Cowboys are a Hollywood set. They are completely fake.
So get on the tour bus and drive through Universal
Studios the way you do and look at all of
the fake buildings.

Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
You can ooh ah, take pictures, and then go home.

Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
And when you get home, I hope that your house
is real, because the Cowboys is not.

Speaker 3 (01:28:25):
That's exactly what a BBL is perfectly said.

Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
I mean, I like your analogy better, but it's they
both work because they're both true.

Speaker 3 (01:28:37):
Right, there's showing to be something that's not real, and
when it boils down to it, you have to be
real to compete in the playoffs. There're no mistakes. How
you can add the best surgeon in the world just
don't work. It just don't work. And so you got

(01:28:59):
all this money, get all his money tied in, and
everybody's lining up. Just see the natural.

Speaker 4 (01:29:13):
How many yards? Don't look?

Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
How many yards do you think the Cowboys leading rusher
for the season three games? How many yards do you
think that their leading rusher has right now?

Speaker 3 (01:29:29):
Forty you're actually.

Speaker 2 (01:29:33):
A touch low, but you're not very far off at all.
The answer is fifty six yards.

Speaker 3 (01:29:40):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
For their leading rusher, and it happens to be two
different people. Ricoddal and Zeke Elliott both have fifth yards rushing.
Both are averaging significantly below four yards per carry. Their
third leading rusher is actually Ceedee Lamb with the three
carries that he's gotten out of the backfield. He's their

(01:30:03):
third leading rusher with three total carries. So, like, I know,
the players play, but when I look at the Dallas Cowboys,
I have to assess the number one problem and it's
the front office. Oh, the front office of the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (01:30:25):
Is the leading piece of.

Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
Blame pie for this situation. I know they knew that
they needed to pay Dak. You can do that, and
you need to pay CD even though that's just like
an unfortunate part of the industry right now, because I
don't think receivers should get that.

Speaker 4 (01:30:44):
But you knew you were going to do those two things.

Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
I just don't see that as preventative to being able
to do other things with your team. And I don't
know why the Cowboys seemed to think that that meant, well,
that's it, there's nothing else we can do. The Eagles
are paying their quarterback and two receivers and they've found
a way to do other things with their roster, Like

(01:31:08):
I don't know, they got Saquon Barkley to go run
the ball and look at the dividends that that's paying.
He's got like five touchdowns and their two victories this year.
So I just I don't understand structurally what the Cowboys
are doing.

Speaker 3 (01:31:27):
Just wait till people freak out next year when they
have to play, Well, they can't pay bike up Parsons,
like they have some trouble coming down the road, darn right,
and people are going to go crazy. For real, They're

(01:31:50):
going to go crazy because yeah, rents do and they
can't pull that falling down the stairs stuff shout out
to coming to America.

Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
Yeah, they probably won't pay Michael Parsons although he's not
playing all that well.

Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
He's not. And look, he's a tremendous talent. And I
think if he were in a dominating defense, if he was,
if he was in Pittsburgh and you can allow him
to roam and attack different gaps, it'd be great, right,

(01:32:36):
Because you got TJ. Watt coming off one end and
you put Michael Parsons on the other end, you have
a problem on your hands. But the thing that you
can do, you can run right at him. He will
dip out of He will try to get out of
the way of a blocker opposed to taking them on right.
So you can design different runs to take advantage of that.

(01:33:04):
And so he's a specialist. Remember, they didn't know whether
he's going to be off the ball. On the ball
they did, They were trying to figure out what he
He's a tremendous talent. And I'm not taking anything away
from Michael Parsons. I wouldn't want to block them all game,
but in the context of their defense and what they
have now, he's like a luxury item and you can't

(01:33:31):
sometimes you can't afford the luxury items. That's where I
see the Dallas Cowboys. You know they're at right now.
And you know, do you We heard him on this podcast.
It's a must win. We heard all the stuff. We
heard all the stuff. He has his own podcast. We

(01:33:53):
can talk to him his words. The problem is when
you don't live up to expectations, you have to keep
answering the questions over and over again, and then it
becomes nauseating, and then you start feeling a certain type

(01:34:16):
of way. So I'm be real interested to see how
this podcast goes. Yeah, what happens when you open yourself
up to it?

Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
Yeah, you know how many teams have given up more
points than the Cowboys this year in the entire NFL.

Speaker 4 (01:34:36):
Two two two, the Panthers and the Rams. Okay, that's it,
that's it.

Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
Yeah, Cowboys are giving up eighty nine points in three games.
My friend, I've got a trade idea that I would
like to throw at you.

Speaker 3 (01:34:52):
Trade idea.

Speaker 4 (01:34:54):
See what you think about it based on something we
saw today.

Speaker 2 (01:34:58):
So we'll do that. Coming up next with me from
Salama Mark Willard. This is Week three on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
here we are live ty iraq dot com studios, and
shortly after the show, the podcast goes up. If you
missed any of today's show, be sure to check it
out in podcast form. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever

(01:35:21):
you get your podcasts. Be sure to follow, rate and
review again. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get
your podcast and we'll be right there. This show posted
right after we get off of the air. Okay, it
feels like there's one of these teams every year. Last
year it was the New York Jets. This year, it's
the Miami Dolphins. I know that we're all still trying

(01:35:44):
to catch our breath with the Tua situation and wondering
what's going on there. And we do know he has
said that he does no plans to retire. We also
know that he showed up to today's game in sunglasses,
and there I've been at least whispers that the expectation
is going to be sort of like at least an

(01:36:06):
eight to ten week type of a thing. And I
don't even know if there can be an expectation when
it comes to a situation like this with concussion, So
go ahead.

Speaker 3 (01:36:18):
I'm interested to know, well how they came up with that.

Speaker 2 (01:36:26):
With that length of time, the timeline, like, it's just
sort of whispers that I've heard. Obviously, he's on ir right,
the thought process has been that and maybe it's more
like a doctors have said, you need to like take
that long before you can even consider bringing him back.

(01:36:47):
I really don't think that that's official. But anyway, assuming
that the Miami Dolphins are without their quarterback for the
majority of this season, and I don't know what happened
with Skyler Thompson's injury today over frankly, well, it doesn't
really matter. So that's actually a decent football team. Obviously.

(01:37:14):
You've put fifty eight million dollars a year into your
wide receivers, You've been built that way, you have a
star young running back, you're trying to outscore people, and
you're a team that was in the playoffs just nine
months ago. So it feels like there's something to try

(01:37:34):
to save there. And if I'm the Dolphins, I'm canvassing
the league right now to figure out what can I
try to do this year to save our season?

Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
Wouldn't you call the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Speaker 3 (01:37:49):
Of course? Of course there's also Ryan Tannehill's out there.

Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
Ryan Tannehills out there and obviously knows the organization very
very well.

Speaker 3 (01:37:59):
Yeah, I don't know Joe Joe Flacco. I mean you'd
have to.

Speaker 2 (01:38:04):
You'd have to give up some trade capital for him
as well.

Speaker 3 (01:38:07):
It's but you.

Speaker 4 (01:38:10):
Gotta do something, and you gotta and you gotta do
it now.

Speaker 3 (01:38:13):
You should be done. It should be like we should
be hearing this coming up week, what's what's happening?

Speaker 2 (01:38:21):
And I'm not saying Russell is like perfect or fantastic anymore,
any of those things. But I'm going to try to
capitalize on the current excitement with the Pittsburgh Steelers in
that you're three and zero, You're young guy is the
one performing well.

Speaker 3 (01:38:38):
And maybe maybe the.

Speaker 2 (01:38:40):
Steelers are are thinking to themselves right now, not just
Justin's our quarterback this year. Maybe they're thinking, hey, this
is our quarterback for a while.

Speaker 4 (01:38:53):
Maybe they're thinking that.

Speaker 3 (01:38:55):
I don't think they're there yet. I think they're happy
with the possibilities now. He still has to improve immensely,
like he has to get better, for sure, and if
he can continue to get better each week, then around
you know, mid season, and they're seven and one, seven

(01:39:19):
and two, then you have to be like, Okay, hey,
we got to really look at this. He's making he's
taking the steps that we had been waiting for him
to do in Chicago. And like I said at the
end of the year last year, he has some energy
around him in Chicago just to keep going. And I'm

(01:39:47):
telling you, they get to around seven and two, you know,
seven and one, someone that now it's like, oh, okay,
we have something here. I look, I'm excited for him,
for them. I'm a Mike Tomlin fan. I'm a fan
of all straight shooters. Yep, and Miami does have to

(01:40:12):
do something now, right Mike today?

Speaker 4 (01:40:16):
Yes, yes, there's no more time.

Speaker 3 (01:40:19):
No, you should have left the game and been in
you know, I need all available options, Like at the
actual by player personnel should have had the whole list
of available options, and was you know, emailing it to
the GM's phone during the game.

Speaker 2 (01:40:37):
You know how you talked earlier about the season being
put into sort of like four quadrants. Yes, and obviously
quadrant one is almost over, but if you can go
to and two, it's not the end of the world.
I'd like to give you the next month of action
for the Miami Dolphins. The next month of action. Okay,
you're one and two. Things are not going well, but

(01:40:59):
here's the next month of action. Next week you will
host the Tennessee Titans. The week after that you will
travel to the New England Patriots. The week after that
you're off, and the week after that you're at the
Indianapolis Colts. Oh man, my friend, if you go get
a quarterback, you can win those football games.

Speaker 3 (01:41:21):
You can be.

Speaker 4 (01:41:22):
Four and two before Halloween.

Speaker 3 (01:41:25):
Yes you can, if you go.

Speaker 2 (01:41:28):
Address the position and you do it with desperation. Yes, er, yes,
if you need to give up a draft pick you
don't want to give up, I'm sorry, get it up.
You have got to go get one of those names
that we just talked about.

Speaker 4 (01:41:43):
You got to overpay someone.

Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
You gotta do something because the season is totally hanging
in the balance. And that Tennessee team that's coming to
town next week, they're bad, but they're going to.

Speaker 4 (01:41:54):
Be desperate, but they're gonna fight you. Oh goodness, yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
And DeAndre Hopkins woke up today like I don't know
what's gonna you know. So you've got a schedule that
you can navigate. I mean I even look at at
at the remainder of October in November, and there's another
game against the Patriots and a home game against the
Raiders and a trip to the Rams and Arizona comes

(01:42:29):
to town. Like a very very workable schedule.

Speaker 3 (01:42:34):
You gotta get on it, man, you got it. They
are in trouble. They're in trouble.

Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
No, they're not gonna They're not gonna move the ball.
The Miami Dolphins this year have scored thirty three points.

Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
The Miami Dolphins, Tyreek Hill, Jalen Waddle and Devon a
chan thirty three points in three football games. I don't know,
Like to me, that's that's a thing, right, when you
invest in something that you.

Speaker 4 (01:43:07):
Need to give it everything you've got.

Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
And they've invested in this wide receiver corps and these
two dudes are not going to touch the ball again
the rest of the year if they keep going like.

Speaker 3 (01:43:14):
This at all. Just like in this show, when we
invest in someone, thank you, all right, we invest and
our investment always pays dividend, right, because we got a
guy who's foolproof, and that's one Steven f de Sega. Oh,

(01:43:38):
I thought I I was Stephen. I to Seger, thank you.

Speaker 6 (01:43:42):
But it's been a great, great show, and I feel
like it's just three Sunday nights in a row. Isn't
it so great to have Sunday Night? And we're the
first show after the football I miss is just this
has been superb. The Chiefs have just extended their lead
in Atlanta late third quarter, but three quick baseball notes.
The Cincinnati Reds have fired manager David Bell. Minnesota got
swept in a doubleheader at Boston. They're no longer leading

(01:44:04):
the race for the last playoff spot in the American
League one week left. The Tigers are leading that they
won today and yes, the White Sox lost again today.
The record is thirty six and one twenty with a
week to go. They've already tied the modern Major League
record most losses in one season. Well, the Chiefs are
now up twenty two fourteen late third quarter at Atlanta.

(01:44:26):
They just scored on a Patrick Mahomes touchdown passes second
of the night, but the extra point hit the right upright,
no good pink. It is an eight point lead for
Kansas City on the road. Kirk Cousins one touchdown, one
interception for the Falcons. That one touchdown was on the
first drive of the night. They went straight down the
field seven plays, seventy yards. Cousins had the fourteen yard

(01:44:47):
TD pass to Drake London. The Rams came back with
a field goal in the final seconds to beat San
Francisco twenty seven to twenty four. The Rams scored thirteen
straight points in the last six and a half minutes
Detroit want Air Arizona twenty to thirteen. David Montgomery one
hundred five yards rushing and a touchdown. Carolina won its
game at Las Vegas thirty six, twenty two. Andy Dalton

(01:45:09):
for the Panthers three touchdown passes in the first half
three hundred nineteen yards through the air in the game.
Seattle is three and oh after beating Miami twenty four
to three. Quarterbacks Skyler Thompson of the Dolphins left with
a chest injury. Baltimore held on twenty eight, twenty five
at Dallas. Derrick Henry one hundred and fifty one yards
rushing and two scores. Philadelphia a fifteen to twelve winner

(01:45:32):
at New Orleans Saints led three to nothing to start
the fourth quarter. Sakuon Barkley with two tds in the fourth.
He finished with seventeen carries one hundred forty seven yards.
The Vikings are three and oh after winning easily thirty
four to seven over Houston. Sam Darnold four touchdown passes
justin fields three and oh with the Steelers Pittsburgh twenty
to ten over the Chargers. Wins for Denver and Indianapolis.

(01:45:55):
Giants had eight sacks of Deshaun Watson and won at
Cleveland twenty one fifth fifteen. Packers defense eight sacks of
Will Levis and won at Tennessee thirty to fourteen. The
University of Tennessee is up to number five, and the
new AP College Football poll undefeated Missouri fell to number
eleven by the way. In Major League Baseball tonight, the

(01:46:15):
Mets were two to one winners over Philadelphia. The Braves
won their game today five to four at Miami. Braves
still two games out of the last NL wildcard spot
behind the Mets and Arizona starting on Tuesday, Mets at Braves.
It was the Padres that beat the White Sox.

Speaker 3 (01:46:31):
Today.

Speaker 6 (01:46:31):
Dodgers got back to back solo homers bottom of the
ninth to edge Colorado six ' five first place Dodgers
still three games over the Padres in the NL West
and for this final week of the season starting Tuesday,
Padres at Dodgers. Today, in LA bottom of the ninth,
sho hey Otani leads off with his fifty third home
run of the season, tying it and then the next batter,

(01:46:52):
Mookie Betts hits the game winning homer, till left six
to five the final. In the show's first hour, guys,
you talked about the amazing Otani from stat Zinc, and
this came out during the show tonight. For sho Heyotani
in his last four games, five home runs and six
stolen bases, fourteen hits in four games, and thirteen RBIs.

Speaker 3 (01:47:14):
Well, that must be one of the.

Speaker 6 (01:47:15):
Greatest weekends ever, you'd think, But no, they went a
step further. If you compared Otani's last four games to
any other player in the last one hundred years their
best four game span career in each of those categories,
still no one could match otani statline for this weekend.
Even if you took any one player's best four game

(01:47:36):
span in each category separately and they just pasted them
together to try and beat Otani's numbers this weekend, he
would still be at the top of this list.

Speaker 3 (01:47:45):
Back to you, Woo and Steve.

Speaker 2 (01:47:48):
I know it's an election year, but I am starting
this legislation that might take a little while. Enough of
this whining about the human body not being able to
handle seventeen games or eight teen games.

Speaker 4 (01:48:01):
We're going for it. I want football every Sunday for
the whole year. We can do it. Expand rosters by
three extra players. We can do it.

Speaker 3 (01:48:12):
Well it is I know we can do it.

Speaker 6 (01:48:13):
It is Labor Day to President's Day these days, who's.

Speaker 4 (01:48:17):
Up for a fifty two game schedule?

Speaker 6 (01:48:19):
I do I want, and I think we can see
this coming. I just want once we expand to eighteen games,
then we'll have that President's Day holiday the day after
the super Bowl, so soid we will always be a
holiday weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:48:33):
Thank goodness, my gosh, it would be really nice to
have a drink once in a while during the damn game.

Speaker 4 (01:48:40):
Yeah, I'm with you. We got to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:48:43):
You got to beat you up for eighteen right from
just eighteen? Come on, No, you know what, Listen. I
don't ever want to sound insensitive. I have no idea
what y'all go through, even though I got a real,
real healthy respect for it. But some some times I
do chuckle at like, like, seventeen is fine, but not eighteen.

Speaker 3 (01:49:06):
I don't want. I didn't want seventeen.

Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
I know you didn't, you know what I mean, Like,
we can't do Thursday night football, Well.

Speaker 3 (01:49:15):
Actually we can, and we can do.

Speaker 2 (01:49:17):
Wednesday also, but like seventeen, that's it. I mean what,
And I guess you could do this forever. You could
be like, well, what's one more? What's one more?

Speaker 3 (01:49:30):
Yeah? You can keep stacking and keep adding and keep
stacking and keep adding and keep stacking, and.

Speaker 4 (01:49:35):
Yeah, yeah, we want to be entertained, kill us all Yeah, no,
I get it, I get it.

Speaker 3 (01:49:43):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
I guess my response to that would be if you're like, well,
we can't do seventeen, I'm like, right, you can't do one.

Speaker 3 (01:49:53):
You can't even do one.

Speaker 2 (01:49:56):
I'm pretty sure that's not healthy.

Speaker 3 (01:50:00):
I wouldn't be able to do one. Most people can't
do one, right, one.

Speaker 4 (01:50:06):
Of those hits. That's it. Now we're done. So I
don't know where's the line. Is there a line? No line? Man,
money is the line? And it is too much, for
way too much. You do like the idea of a

(01:50:26):
day off after the super Bowl?

Speaker 3 (01:50:28):
Right? I do?

Speaker 4 (01:50:28):
I mean for us, for us working steps right.

Speaker 3 (01:50:31):
That's great. Yeah, so that would be.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Good, you know, or in the Tireck dot com studios.
By the way, it would not have made any sense.
Remember earlier we were talking about survivor pools. It would
not have made any sense to UH to pick this team.
I don't even think they were favored. I think they
were underdog. I got a look. It was close. It

(01:50:54):
was a tight spread. I think they were a small underdog.
But if there were, there's one team today in the
whole NFL that you probably should have emptied the kids student.

Speaker 4 (01:51:09):
You know, college bank account.

Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
You probably should have done it on this team because
there was no chance, literally no chance of this team losing,
not because they were better than the other team, just
because this is Murphy's law and it's the way life works.
There was zero chance that this team was going to lose.

(01:51:34):
And I'll tell you exactly who that team is coming
up next with the from salam Markweather.

Speaker 4 (01:51:38):
This is Fox Sports Radio, Okay, Tyreck dot Com Studios.
There was no way in hell, no matter what, I
don't care if they're playing two teams today, I don't
care if they're playing a Pro Bowl team today. There

(01:52:00):
was no way in hell the Baltimore Ravens were gonna
lose in Dallas today.

Speaker 3 (01:52:05):
Yeah, that one. But no, they tried to They tried
to make it interest it, try to give it away.
They try to give it away. I know.

Speaker 2 (01:52:11):
Well, they give up a nineteen nothing run there in
the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:52:15):
Yeah, that tells you how much they were up by.

Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Though, when you give up a nineteen nothing run and
you still end up in victory formation on the road.

Speaker 3 (01:52:24):
I mean it was twenty eight to what six six
in the fourth quarter, nine.

Speaker 2 (01:52:31):
Everybody knows the data. When you go oh and three,
your season is all but over. And the Baltimore Ravens
have some concerns, Like I would look at them right
now and be like, there's one word if I'm John Harball,
that I'm going to like, you know, I'm gonna go
over to Kinko's and make a banner and I'm going

(01:52:52):
to put this thing in the in the in the
locker room, and the word is finish.

Speaker 4 (01:52:58):
Finish. I think of their three games now.

Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
They went on a run in Kansas City, and then
Isaiah Likely's toe was out of bounds. Then they had
a ten point lead at home against the Raiders, cough
that sucker up. And then today, as you just detailed,
you're up by twenty two points in the fourth quarter
on the road and you end up winning by a
field goal.

Speaker 4 (01:53:22):
So finishing is a problem.

Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
The defense doesn't look as dominant as we've seen in
years past, But that is way too good of a
football team to go zero to three.

Speaker 4 (01:53:34):
And it's Murphy's law, it's the way things work.

Speaker 3 (01:53:37):
There was no.

Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
Way in hell that team was going to lose their
football game today, no matter who they were playing.

Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
No, and The thing about Baltimore is they figured out
how to use Oh my goodness, gracious, Atlanta just decided, Hey, god,
I think he was down. They just decided. They just decided, Hey,
we don't want to do this, We don't want to
play football anymore. Anyway. The thing I like about Baltimore

(01:54:07):
is they decided how to use Derrick Henry and Lamar
Jackson in the run game. Yes, case in point, that
last third and whatever it was for the first down,
everybody nobody knew he had Lamar had the ball. But
when you bludging the team, yeah, he was down. When

(01:54:31):
you bludging the team with a Derrick Henry who had
over one hundred yards day and stiff dorm some about
a grown man, somebody's child, maybe someone's dad to the
ground like he don't belong out there. I mean that's
a positive. Those are positives because now if they can
get that dual headed run, you're going to gets wrong.

(01:54:53):
They're going to make it difficult for you to stop
them offensively, and they're gonna win the majority of time
of possessions and games. So they figured something out to
the NA Granted it was against a terrible defense, one
of the worst in the league. But it felt for
the first time like, Okay, this is how we do

(01:55:14):
this thing. Yeah, so, I mean they're dangerous now they
got talent everywhere.

Speaker 4 (01:55:21):
Oh of course, of course.

Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
And look, I'll just say this about the whole mobile
quarterback thing, it's going to forever be a debate sustainability.
How many hits can you take? You can't overdo it.
RG three, We know all the stories. I totally get it.
At the same time, there's a lot to be said.

(01:55:44):
I think in the NFL about an identity. You have
to have an identity and you are who you are.
And by no means am I calling Lamar Jackson a
running back.

Speaker 3 (01:55:54):
We're not going there anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:55:56):
He's a phenomenal player, and he's a two time MVP,
and yes he can throw the football. But just like
what we're gonna see with Jayden Daniels tomorrow night and
his forthcoming career, just like we'll see with what Josh
Allen does, you are who you are and and and
you have to use I think what makes you special.

(01:56:17):
And Lamar Jackson's legs are special, yes, and and so
you just you're gonna You're gonna have to do it.
You're gonna have to do it. I feel like the
Philadelphia Eagles are starting to get real hesitant about running
the ball with with Jalen Hurts, and he's starting to
look not special as a quarterback. So I don't know,

(01:56:40):
I don't know how you thread that needle, but boy,
they look real real hard to stop when he's.

Speaker 3 (01:56:48):
Running the football. It's dangerous. It's nothing you can do.
And you know, they were trying to rush him a
certain type of way where they kind of like like
a muddle rush where you don't quite get let's not
forget he can pass the ball as well. Yes, so
if you allow him to sit back there, if you

(01:57:08):
allow him to sit back there because you don't want
him to break contain good luck everybody else. It's not
gonna go well for you, right, It's just not. It's
gonna You're gonna drive yourself crazy. And that was the

(01:57:29):
part that was the point of them bringing in Derrick
Henry to drive defenses crazy. And they're they're they're going
to succeed. It's gonna be it's gonna be fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
I want to throw a handful of teams at you
that currently have a losing record and you give me
the concern level based on a scale of one to ten.

Speaker 4 (01:58:02):
Okay, Dallas Cowboys ten ooh? Why say ten?

Speaker 3 (01:58:13):
Oh? Because I'm concerned that they are spending sixty plus
million a year on a quarterback, thirty plus a million
a year on a receiver, and they're not going to
make the playoffs. They're zero and three. I think it's

(01:58:34):
like a seventeen percent chance or something like that for
the wanting to playoffs one two. But I don't see
where are the wins coming from based on what you've
seen them do. Where are the wins coming from? That's
the gods. Yeah, when they play bad team. Yeah, but

(01:58:56):
what happens is when you start losing early, you you
no longer have that confidence going into bad teams. Yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:59:03):
I mean they play the Giants on Thursday night, and
then their next three after that.

Speaker 3 (01:59:07):
Somebody forgot to tell the Giants today today weren't good.

Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
Yep, yep, and then the next three after that are
going to be Pittsburgh, the Lions and the forty nine ers.

Speaker 3 (01:59:16):
Come on, man, So let me just say this divisional game,
Giants found something today. Uh that receiver.

Speaker 2 (01:59:30):
Nevers he can play good, He can play Oh my gosh,
he can play.

Speaker 3 (01:59:39):
So if they don't get that one, they're not getting
the next three. What about the forty nine ers?

Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:59:50):
Four, okay, four? I don't know, man. It's like, I'm
more concerned defensively, but they'll be able to be in
games because offensively they're fine. Yeah, they're fine, So they'll
get a break here and there. Defensively turnover whatever that is.
Everybody's not gonna be able to score like that, So

(02:00:12):
I'm just concerned about a four.

Speaker 2 (02:00:15):
The problem with the forty nine ers is the guys
that were missing today were not the problem, right exactly. Yeah,
that would have made sense, but but that's not the
way it went.

Speaker 3 (02:00:25):
So I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:00:27):
My concern level might be a little bit higher than yours.
Great week again, buddy, great show man uh for e
from Salam. I'm Mark Willard. Thank you everyone for listening
