how I answer it. So I thought to myself, huh,

about ten minutes later I was able to listen to

the voicemail. You left a voicemail, which was another nostalgic
moment for me. I listened to the voicemail, I go, oh, well, now, yes.

We can have that conversation and then we did would
you like to let everybody know what you were calling about?

Uh? Yeah.

So I had been hearing the lines of all of
the you know, the bets and all of that, and
I'm not I'm not a gambler in that way. I'm
typically not into that, but I was like, I really
feel like the Pacers can beat Okay, see, and the

money line is crazy. It's like, yeah, it's like plus
nine hundred thousand or something like that.

So I was like, I know, my guy.

And I have talked about, you know, maybe putting some
money on it or something.

I remember we spoke about that on our show.

Yes, And so I hit you, like, yo, what we're
trying to do? Whatever it is, I'm going half he's
with you.

You're like, well, we're about to do because the game
is about four hours away.

Yes, this thing's about to start.

And if you don't speak gambling, whenever, whenever something is
plus whatever, like fill in that number. And I think
that it was a little bit over plus five hundred
on the Pacers to win the series. That means for
every one hundred dollars, you bet, that's what you would
make back. So you can bet one hundred dollars and

you make over five hundred back. Meantime, if it's minus
as the Thunder, we're like minus six fifty. That means
if you bet six hundred and fifty dollars on the
Thunder to win the series, you only get one hundred back.
I mean, you'd get your bet back, but you'd only
make one hundred dollars. And I'm like, well that that's
no fun. That doesn't make any sense at all. So

even if a good chunk of me thinks the Thunder
are gonna win, I was with you. I'm like, the
numbers are screaming, take a flyer on this cause maybe maybe.
So I wanted to let everybody know before we got
started tonight because the game is about to start and yes,

your two boys are up one nothing and look some
monent this is this is not going to be an
objective show tonight.

And I'm gonna tell you this, whatever number you said,
I was going, well, whatever number you said, I was like,
let's get it going.

can't grab your pocket, And I'm like, oh, for crying
out loud, Okay, okay, let's do this, and long story short,
it all worked out because both of us exploded on
the last hole, but he kind of exploded a little
bit more than me. And so everybody went home that

night and they were still able to eat and pay rent,
and so that was great. But I knew when you called,
I'm like, I better, I better not better, not say
a big number.

Right, you will see what I won't miss.

Exactly exactly so, and then I have to tell you
the other thing that happened. Uh so, uh Thursday night,
and uh, honest to god, I can't even remember off
the top of my head what the hell was going
on that night.

So my my oldest son, who is a high school golfer,
he had his end of the year season party that night.
So I jam home from work straight to the party.
Parents are all chit chat and eating food. Nobody's got
the TV on. It's just one of those nights, whatever, bro.
I saw none, none of it. And I start getting

text messages from friends that just.

Go, wow, what a game. Okay okay, so, and I'm
looking at it like, what does that mean?

Speaker 3 (07:44):
I got one better for you? Okay, go watch the
first half. I say, I watched the first half. We
had an event to go to my brother, yep, I say,
and it was like, dang, we're gonna miss that. So

I'm like, don't you let's not talk about it. I'm
gonna tape the game. I'm watch the second half when
I get home. Right, So, I'm trying to We're sitting
in this thing and I'm trying to not pay attention
to anybody. And he wants to know, so he looking
on the phone, he trying to show me. I'm like, look, bro,
I don't want to see nothing. I get home.

Around eleven thirty.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
I'm tired. I turned to get my wife and like,
did you watch the game? I said no, no, no,
I didn't watch it yet. She was like, okay, so
watch it. So I'm in the bed. It's twelve thirty.
Now I'm watching the second half. I'm dozing off. She
keeps going, hey, you're not gonna want to miss this.
You go splashing water on your face. You're not gonna
want to miss this. And so I get to I

couldn't even believe it. I almost fell out the bed.
I was like, whoa were one baby?

It was like so honestly, you want to know what
I did. I get the texts that are like, Wow,
what a game?

Speaker 2 (08:59):
So I do.

My move in that moment is to excuse myself to
go to the restaurant. That's my that's my maneuver.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Right. If you're at a dinner or something.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
And you're like, bro, I need a score update, I'm like,
you know, what, where is the restroom. I've got to
use the restroom real quick, and I'll be right back.
And I don't have to use the restroom, but I
go to the restroom so I can get some privacy
and take a little bit of a look at what
the hell's going on that I need to know about,
and so I open.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
I'm also in a bad cell area, so loading I'm
the pain. I'm like, what do we got?

Speaker 1 (09:40):
So it finally pops up and it's like pacers one
eleven thunder one ten point three seconds.

Left to go. I'm like, hold on, it's not.

Because they were all texting like wow, what a game,
as if like.

It's over, and I'm like, oh, cry head, not over.

So I'm sitting there in the corner right in someone
else's restroom, like waiting for this whole thing to to
finally calibrate and be done, and then pop, there it
goes up on the screen. It's a final, and then
it was I mean I went back and watched the
whole thing afterward.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Obviously, Yeah, we gotta talk about it. Yeah, but I
did not see any of that in uh, in real time.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
So both of us got clues that something kind of
miraculous had happened, but.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I had no idea what it was. Unbelievable.

Wow, you cannot tell me that one of those have
now happened with the Pacers in each of their four series.

I would love to do. What is this? What's going on?

Man's destiny? You gotta clutch all Like I knew they
were gonna win at halftime because I believe they were
down by nine or whatever. The half court they were
down they had turned them all over nineteen times. Yes,
and okase he couldn't pull away. I looked at my
brother and I said, the Pacers are going to win.

If you have a team turn the ball over in
the first half nineteen times and you're not up by
twenty or more, you're in trouble.

You shouldn't turn the ball over nineteen times in a game.

They only scored nine points off those nineteen turnovers. That's
meaning the Pacers transition defense was tremendous. Yes, to turn
the ball over and to be able to get back

fair fight. And I saw that coming. I saw that
coming and I got Look, I want to do a

that the Mavericks did years ago when they were the
one seed by changing their lineup when they got to
this series and they lost, and they're sticking with that

little bit last to get to as we do a

Yeah, as our listeners know, and as you know, I'm
on this basketball journey with my ten year old son,
and so he's been at an AAU team for the
last year and I felt like I wanted to go
out and you know, get other voices and see how

he performs elsewhere. And so last week we went to
three different AAU teams and programs and I let him
pick the one he wanted to play with. We had
a big tournament out in Thousand Oaks this weekend and
he picked It's called the Game Speed Academy and they're

(14:12):
out of the Thousand Oaks and all the way to
the Valley.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Really good program.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
So he said, hey, we have two eleven U teams
in this tournament. A bunch of the kids on the
first eleven you team are ten. We're just playing up
with them, and then we have our normal eleven YOU team.
Would Elijah like to play on both teams? I love
for him. We went to one practice so he was like,

(14:41):
I'd love for him to get as many reps in
our system as possible. So I said absolutely. That's two
games for the first team on Saturday, two games for
the second team on Saturday, and the same today. Okay,
needless to say, he stepped right in.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Great. The coach is amazing.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
I like coaches who actually coach, whether you're up thirty
or down thirty. Yes, there's always something to say to
an eleven year old ABC.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Always be coaching, Always be coaching.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Sure, And he reminds me of me when I'm coaching
because parents have yelled at me because we're up thirty
and I'm still coaching, right, I'm like, hey, don't talk
to me. Talk to your coach, not my coach.

I mean, not me.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
I'm coaching my team. They're getting lazy because they're up.
They have to work on things. And so he shared
that that same sentiment. The head coach, his name is
coach Key Horang, and he runs a tremendous program, and
his assistant coach coaches the girls team, and it's just

it's just amazing. Coach boudet Our boudi coach. I'm new everybody.
I'm new to them, but they've been been Josh Boude
have been great. We went eight and oh and won
the championship in both the divisions we were in Okay,

and I'm like, this is it. The families are good.
It's always you always got to pick a program with
great family, families.

Family.

You're spending the most time with those people.

When I when I have coached at the youth level,
when I when there's a draft, I am not so
much drafting the player, I am drafting the family.

Yeah, oh you have to that's the family.

Yeah, You're be traveling with them, you'll be staying over now,
you'll be going to different places with this group of people,
and so you always want to be with like minded
parents who don't think their kids are going to the
NBA today at ten eleven and the twelve and so
the parents are great.

The team was great. Elijah really loved the teammates.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
They're actually celebrating right now at David Buster's the boys
teams and the girls teams. So I just wanted to
give a shout out to Game Speed. They're tremendous and
they're a new program, but you can see that the
building blocks are great.

And and and your your son is going to be
he's going to sleep well.

So's he's no longer an elementary school kid. He's going
to the even though he's ten. Relaxed people, he's going
to the sixth grade. That's what we do in the
Salam family. Hey, I graduated at sixteen, and so that's

There is no judgment here. I like the stories that
you tell. I can tell things are going and just fine,
thank you. And so if everybody's doing great, I think
it's a wonderful lesson early, which is get the hell
done with school as quickly as.

You know what the opposite is like, I actually get
if I was going to turn into Judge Judy here
for a second, I would look at it much the

you're not doing what the other athlete parents do.

I see you when your kid is in fifth grade
and he's six feet tall.

You're trying to fool yourself into thinking that this is
an elite athlete because you're holding your kid back so
that he is bigger or she is bigger or stronger
or faster whatever than everybody else out there.

I look, and now, look, my son is tall, he's
long and athletic. But I said, look, you're ten. You're
playing against eleven and twelve year old They're going to
be bigger, stronger, and faster than you. But guess what,
one day you're going to wake up six' nine and

it's going to be, different and they're. Not that's the bottom. Line,
son you won THE dna. Jackpot he's never not been
in the ninety nine point nine. Percentile. Yep in terms of,
