Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio, right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
We're broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios on
a Fox Sports Saturday. Tons of baseball going on, training
camp news and notes, all types of guys being Look,
this is the type of time when, like, honestly I
saw this news break on Thursday, when I saw this
training camp bridgery come across, I said, oh my god,
Like I legitimately said, oh my god. Like it was
(00:27):
like the like the turning point in the movie Justin
Fields is being carted. Oh man, Justin Feel's being carted
all and then you just see just that was the
beginning of it. They's trailing burks, fracture short, fractured corner
collar bone, boom just dies getting hurt. Oh, Jack Jones
just got signed. Why already burns RPD R A C L.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
So we are in that period of time where and
not only that, not only did the injury news your
notes come flying quickly with Joe Mixon, but god forbid
your quarterback throw an interception. Oh don't go there, Oh
my goodness. We will overreact to some of those. I
wanted to react to some of them as well. But
first let's go ahead and take a look because major
(01:06):
League Baseball is back in full swing. All Star Game ends, right, yeah,
we're all caught up in the swash of swarber boom
boom boom, right, you know, getting go yard and just
the amazingness of it all people complaining.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Where was showing and Aaron Judge, you.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Know, after the after the the Grand Slam swing off
or whatever the hell it was called to end the
Major League Baseball All Star Games.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
But in that moment, after all that was.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Done, the Fox postgame show had Alex Rodriguez, Uh, David
Ortiz and uh, I said, Alex, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz,
and Derek Teter, Right, so, uh baseball dignitaries of course,
and uh, forgive me you think Kevin Burkhart or Robstone.
One of the two asked, you know, who do you
have one of the World Series? Right, Ortiz was like
(01:53):
the Red Sox. Okay, okay, ey answer. But both Alex
Rodriguez and Derek Jeter said they thought the Yankees were
gonna win win the American League because both of them
said this, yeah, because.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Brian Cashman was going to make a move. Wow, right.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Both of them said that this was right after the
ALSEL game. I remember I cut this, I watched it.
Big statement, Martin, So, of course, big move made by
the Yankees. Ryan McMahon third basement for the Rockies. Anytime
you can get a Rocky in the trades, you gotta
do it.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
I agree with that.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
No, so they get a third baseman. But really the
big news of the day they lose ninth to fourth
to the Phillies. But more importantly, Aaron Judge imaging on
his elbow flexer strain. The reports are he misses the
UCL injury, which is like the big concern Tommy John.
Obviously that's a disaster. However, the Yankees now what four games.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Back in the AL East.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
It's not an ideal time to lose your franchise, but not.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
A great time to lose your franchise player.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Do you know what it's not Obviously you don't want
to have UCL, but it also could be disaster right
here right now. I don't know if Ryan McMahon's two
forty seven batting acts this season is going to be
able to carry them. Missing Aaron Judge for an inextended
period of time, are the Yankees cooked because I think
the Yankees they very well. When you look at the
rest of the American League, they might be cooked.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
Well, it's interesting you alluded to what a Rod and
Jeter said. Now a Rod's been known, I feel to
maybe give us a little more than a crumb on
the air as a player over the years. Jeter fairy quarterback,
Y'll never gives you anything, very Brady asked when he's
(03:44):
on the mic.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
For him to say that, mar And to me gives you.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
The idea of not only do they not have enough,
but this is almost how would you call it, almost
like a lighthouse. I'm going I'm going far with this reference.
But they're they're calling out to the rest of the island.
We need backup because we don't have enough. And this
(04:09):
is our way of saying, go get a guy or
three before it's too late.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
And you say before it's too late. Aaron Judge is
thirty three years old. It's hard to fathom. Right.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I'm not saying that he's going anywhere anytime soon, but
I'm just saying, look, you get to thirty three, thirty
four to thirty five.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
You get older. Older.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
If you're going to win a World Series, with this corps.
You saw what happened with Garrett Cole boom out of
there season gone, right, So it's like when you you
got players like this, you kind of got to load
up year after year after year. And my introduction to
baseball was the Detroit Tigers of the early twenty tens.
It's a nice lest so right right, I was like,
(04:51):
wait a minute, there's teams that lose eighty games, ninety games.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Who what's that like?
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Right, because I'm sitting there watching a pitching staff of
Justin Verlander, Max Schurz, a knee ball Sanchez, Doug Fifter,
and the other the AlSi Young Winner for one year,
Rick Porcello. Right, he's the fifth starter on that on
that in that lineup right, looking at Miguel Caprare, I'm
looking at Victor Martinez, looking at Tory Hunter.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Right.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Hall of fame guys, if not hall of very good guys.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Right when we were talking about this and that team
won nothing and they tried to they moved on, and
they had holes at center field, they had holes different places,
and one year they go without a closer or tease
right over the side of the famous picture of Tory
Hunter flipping over into the bullpen where there's a police
officer just with his arms up, and I'm so happy
for Boston. I just say out to say, that's a
(05:39):
team in the American League that looked like they had
it going. They had a first ballot Hall of Famer
in Miguel Cabrera, and I think Aaron Judge is knocking
on the door, like definitely Hall of Fame. But like're
it's a question of where who are we going? And
you look at the injury like this at a time
like this in the season, I'm not sure if the
big bat is out there for the Yankees and go
(06:01):
get like, I mean.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Do you feel what's a bat though?
Speaker 5 (06:03):
Because I mean you just made a great thought with
how deep that Tiger's pitching staff was. We're coming off
the heels where the two deepest teams in the NBA
made it to the finals. Is there anything to say
with a ridiculously deep pitching staff? Obviously we haven't seen
the Dodgers in town healthy. But that kind of thinking
from a cashman pov because if you do look at
(06:25):
the pitching numbers seventeenth right now in team era for
the Yankees versus the batting numbers. They're top ten in
almost every batting category. I'm thinking the more what a
Rod and Jeters said Martin would maybe be go out
and get what Garrett Cole was supposed to be for
this roster.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
And I think, especially when you go back and look
at the Yankees start the playoffs and especially in the
World Series, if Garrett Cole had won those two games,
I think the Dodgers were better than the Yankees, just
top to bottom lineup.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Why, especially when you look at the starting nine.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yeah, I just think that you know, there's no there
was no Anthony Volpi in the Dodgers lineup for example.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Not to just take a shot at the hometown.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Kid, but you know what I'm saying, Like Tommy Edmond
was the NLCS MVP.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
He's batting eighth g.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah, playing ball with my brother.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
By the way, San Diego Legen, Southern California. There, baby.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
But if Garrett Cole had won his two games, that
flips the series in a way that is different. And
especially because when you consider the Dodgers pitching they didn't have,
they were gonna throw a bullped game of the World Series.
Silly to think about it.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
It begs the question is Freed and ro Don, which
is also strategically Martin two lefties.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Is that are they top heavy?
Speaker 5 (07:39):
Because after those two arms, if you're looking at any
Yankees playoff series that goes deep, you're starting to concern
yourself with the same thing as the Cole conundrum. You
need one of your guys one or one A to
peel off two wins as a starter on the bump,
or you're again in the same scenario you were after
another Mario Kart lap around the A.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
And that's kind of where I feel about, Like, I
get that you had the you know, you want to
get third baseman. If I was looking for a third
baseman right now, his name.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Would be Au Hennio Suarez. That'd be the third base.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Just you know, all he does is mashash And I think,
especially when you consider Yankee Stadium short porch like that
definitely helps. And especially because you said some of those
pitching numbers, Yankees might need to be outscoring some teams
in the postseason. But now with after making the move
for McMahon, I think that is gonna be your starting
third baseman. More often than not, he is a better
(08:37):
defender than he is hit her and I think, okay, cool,
but you weren't getting anything out of third base for
the Yankees currently to the point you're thinking like moving
jash Chisholm over that way, and it's like, I don't
think that's the answer, you know what I'm saying, But
I think that they do need to get to your
point that third arm. If you're gonna really be considered
to win multiple postseason series, you need to have a
(09:03):
plus guy for three out of the three of the
four wins.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
You need you need to feel like you have the.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Pitching advantage because, as we saw last season, sometimes look
the right pitcher will shut down that offense and it's
over with.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Well what do they say not to be you know,
very mid thirties and getting older by the meal here.
But is it good hitting that beats good pitching or
is it the Costanza opposite.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
I'm pretty sure the Yankees are into conundrum here, Martin.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
Where they have the hitting if you look at the numbers,
I mean their top seven in batting average second, and
obp third, and runs first, and homers first and slugging,
but they're seventeenth in TVRA. Are they on the wrong
side of those stats? Headed In the playoffs. They've won
two series this month, by the way, started off July five.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Trade else Yeah, it's not looking good. But the benefit
that they do have is in the American League. You got,
I mean, ob very true, the Blue Jays surging a bit.
But if you asked me who the best team the
AL was two weeks ago, I said it was a
Tiger before they lost.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Really nine of the last ten games.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
It's not the better league, there's no Yeah, that's the
benefit that they have. So is ever a good time
to go on a three and seven streak in your
last ten it's when the best teams are going one
and nine.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
But to the point, not great.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
But old Yankees though we're old enough to where they
make a move. It's almost lackluster to go out and
get Ryan McMahon from one of the worst teams over
years plural in our entire Major league experience, the Rockies.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Does it move the needle in my opinion?
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Yeah, I wouldn't. I'd say, I mean, yeah, it's not.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
He's better than what you had, but it's not so
much better that is now all of a sudden, Oh,
let's lock this thing up.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I orried about the Yankees that they're gonna come up,
and like, I.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Mean, there's six games back in the East, you know,
so it's like whether I think they're a second wild
card just off the looking at this.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
Ya, it is a four h five Saturday too in
the al East Man Boston knocking on the door, seven
and a half back, Tampa nine back, as we know,
always pesky.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Yeah, so I I this news for the Yankees today. Okay,
good news is no UCL for Aaron Judge. It's a
flexi strain. But the Yankees are not in a place
to where they've been giving up games and it's gonna.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Be a lot harder to win without your best player.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
One team in the NFL seems to do this every
single year, no matter who it is, what player, it's
always when are we gonna pay this guy? And you
know what, one of them's fed up? You know, I'm
not gonna lie. It's eight twelve Eastern. I'm half a
cuple of coffee and I'm fired up. You should be too.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Is this coldplay?
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Okay, I was about to say, because I knew cold
Play from like, oh.
Speaker 9 (13:47):
Whatever I'm saying, you probably know them from Viva.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
No, I know them.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
I know everything up into that, like Yellow Yellow, It's
like high school cold Play for me.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I'm all in. I'm all in.
Speaker 9 (14:01):
I was bumping them heavy senior year.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
That's why I like, I got it when like this
they were talking about the ages of those that couple
are the sort of couple, right, and they were like, oh,
they're in their fifties or sixty.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Were doing a concert.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
It's like, yo, they were like twenty when this music
was really going, Like, I get.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
It, like twenty twenty thirty when this music was really gone.
I got it.
Speaker 10 (14:21):
Clocks is like a big deal, and I think that
was like early two thousands.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Clocks. Clocks was a big time.
Speaker 9 (14:26):
Yes, they had to be like thirty not twenty.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Yeah, I got short of them a bit, but yeah,
I didn't know exactly.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
I couldn't remember there were fifty or sixty.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
So you know, I got two songs I can play
on the piano, Hot Cross Buns and Clocks.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Which one gets you more ladies? See on the scant
run either. We went Scans on again, didn't even take
half hand.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Hot Crusso speaking of things that have been old and
don't move very quickly, you know, talking about these old
replays of songs. Jerry Jones at ox In Oxenar, California
at Cowboys Training Camp. Apparently Monico reports that the stands
less than full.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Oh it's about time second year in a row that
we've had these stories.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
And if you're gonna come all the way to California,
this will ticket You'd imagine people.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Would want to go.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Maybe one of the reasons that people have not been
flocking to Cowboys Training Camp is because, for yet another summer,
the Cowboys are dealing with the same issue.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Dak Prescott explains.
Speaker 11 (15:27):
I mean it's an every year conversation, whether it's myself,
Zach Martin, Ceedee Lamb, now Michael Parsons, it's part of
it in a sense. Now it's something that I wish
that any of us are going through. Absolutely not. But
I think Mike's doing a hell of a job with
it being here. He's a great teammate. I don't know
(15:48):
if there's a correct way to handle it. To be
honest with you, I will say that I think he
deserves to get paid. Think he should get paid, and ultimately,
if going off of the history of what I've seen,
he will get paid. Hopefully it's sooner than later.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Every year Monico, we see, we see you know, the
Fast Interfurious comes out with the new movie Fast and
Furious eleven.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
You know, we'll see you know? Uh uh, what is it?
Despicable me three?
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Well, this is Jerry Jones versus Salary Cap Part five.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
We are used to this. Dak said it a minute ago.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Michael Parkson's at practice at camp, participating kind of.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Half and half in half out. But you know what
it's because he's like.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Jerry, are you gonna pay me what you owe me
or what? And I just looked this up.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Michael Parsons is one of only five guys in the
history of the league Martin to start out with the
first four seasons inking twelve sacks and that's with injury concerns.
Reggie White, Derek Thomas, Dwight Freeny, throwback Claude Humphrey and
that's it.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
I'm link back to Claude Humphrey. Those are three Hall
of Famers. I'm not sure if Claude made the Hall
I'm not a Maine.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Man Hall of Fame list, my man, And here we
are again, Harry Potter. Like you said, sequel yet again.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Claude Humphrey Hall of Famer twenty fourteen. It congratulations to you.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
That's crazy to me that we're playing this out again
with a guy that is one of five in the
entire NFL history.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
And there's the thing that gets me about it.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
It would be one thing if Jerry was going to
do something different, but he's not.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
He's not gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
He has done it every single like, every single time
Jerry is in this position. Man, we drafted a player
I really really like. He's really really good, and he's
up for an extension.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
You know what we can do.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
We could do it now, lock him up early. Now
we're going to wait and drag it out and go
on and on and on until the last possible moment.
And then as the result of that is gonna cost
me x y Z Moore because the deal I could
have signed you for is no longer available and I
(18:09):
just offered it to you a year ago.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Can I ask you a serious question, does Jerry care
more about theater or does he care more about winning?
Because this seems like great theater and the opposite of
good business.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
But honestly, I definitely seems like the opposite of good business.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
This one.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
I wonder because now it's just Jared. Like when Jerry
had that intro press conference to Cowboys camp and he's like, yeah,
we still haven't talked, and he's like, oh, you know what,
Actually we made dact fully guaranteed and he missed six games.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Like, who does that help?
Speaker 4 (18:43):
This is what I'm saying, Is it about Jerry?
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Because the landman Billy pop Thornton scenes over all, right,
the acting's over, he had his fifteen minutes, Let's get
back to running the team.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
It almost seems like he can't help himself.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
He knows if this transpires every summer, Mike's are gonna
be on him. People are gonna need a SoundBite, and
he's going to be in demand. That's why I asked
the question, because I think it's theater. I think he's
addicted to the attention. He can't help himself.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
And also, this is the thing that drives me nuts
about the Cowboys in particular. They're in this position a
lot because they hit on a lot of draft picks,
like they're able this positioned a lot because like that
DeMarcus Lawrence, like he signed with the Seahawks this offseason.
Like and I read reading the story, I had forgot.
(19:35):
Oh yeah, another guy that Jerry made the highest paid
defensive lineman in football at the point in time was
de Marcus Lawrens.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Is the best defensive lineman in football.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
I don't think at any point in n NFL history
was DeMarcus Lawrence the best, without a doubt defensive lineman
in NFL in the NFL, but he was the highest paid.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Great point.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
And look, if this was uh Yankees no cap scenario
and the Cowboys are the Yankees of of the NFL, fine,
take all the attention, take all the time, and overpay
for bad business.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
But here we are.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
How much more did Ceedee Lamb get than he should
have in my humble opinion, because he waited to the
eleventh hour. Same thing with Dak and the timing of
some of these couldn't be worse.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Go with it, just running back Dak Prescott. Has Dak
Prescott ever been the best quarterback in the NFL?
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Not even in his career?
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Nine Cluck got what I think was the runner up
for MVP two years ago. But again, ever been the
best quarterback in the NFL? No, No, he'd been the
highest paid yep, Cede Lamb. Ever been the best wide
receiver in the NFL?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Absolutely not, not in a single moment in his career
has been the best wide receiver in the NFL. And
you know what, been the highest paid though, like Michael
Parsons as good as those numbers have been at any point,
and his four NFL seasons, as he been the best
pass rusher in the league.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
I mean, I we'll say now, we'll say no to
what you're alluding to.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Garrett and Michael Parsons. Just in a vacuum, Miles Gatt, right,
do you know what I'm saying. It's like just in
a vacuum. Ages be damned, Contracts be damned.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Miles Garrett is a better pass rusher than Michael Parson
without question. Right now, when you factor an age is
a contract all that, okay, gets a little sticky.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
But if you just had one guy for one year,
give me Miles.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
And also, don't you think you don't want to be
last in this particular offseason, who's at his circle of
trust going? Miles is up Oh, by the way t
J watts up and the we got Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
There are dudes plural.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Looking to get top dollar at a similar pass rushing position,
and you don't want to be last.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
And right now, Jerry's last since the Bengals bowed out.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
And this is one of the things that you'll see
in my opinion, as I should say this, you can
tell a good organization from bad and every so often
because I'm a Saints fan, so I watched a bad
organization turn into a good one and then turn right
back into a bad one.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
I know all what it looks all around this thing.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
When the Raiders signed Max Crosby and he was the
first defensive end who is eligible off the board, I said, oh,
there's a new sheriff in town. Oh, I like that,
and Tom Brady and John Spytech, that's a new sheriff
in town because you know what that is.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
That's a move that everybody feels good about.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Max Crosby gets his headlined right, highest paid defensive end
in football.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
Now we know it's only gonna be for two weeks.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Yeah, but that's fine, right, lock him up early before
you have to, and then fans love it. Player loves it,
team loves it because they know if I come here
and ball out, I'll.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Be rewarded, right, I'll be rewarded.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
If you're a Cowboy, you go and ball out, you
are gonna have to fight for your money like like
like like Jerry Rosa to you, you gonna have to fight
for your money, like you're gonna run around calling him
like Jerry, pick.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Up the phone and pay me what you owe. And
he knows he has to pay. You have to pay Parsons.
Right now, you have turnover at coach. You have what
I'm envisioning a Cowboys locker room going from I feel
decent a couple of seasons ago to.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Trending the other way.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
And now we're going heavy on skill position players and
not in the meat and potatoes of the team.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
I don't like that, Martin.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
I don't like it at all.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Man, I tell you what, nobody better. I'm sure to
lead the Cowboys through this period of morassed and Brian
Schottenheimer no one better.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
I couldn't that was.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
They could not have picked a better prit I'm telling
the ABU win it everybody and said, you know who
the best head coach is the guy who just happens
to be down the hall from the head coach. We
didn't want to re sign, but you know what, you know,
I was gonna try to make a joke, but you
know it's not funny at all. Steve de Sager, Are
the Tigers ever gonna win another baseball game?
Speaker 12 (23:54):
My god, man, I will go out on a limb
and say, yes, you feel like it. You said the
word ever. Ever is a very very long time. But
the Tigers have given up five runs in the eighth
and night. They're down five nothing to the first place
Toronto Blue Jays Top of the Night, and the Tigers
have just one hit in tonight.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Scratch that, Steve, make it six as Vlad Guerrero just.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Booms it solo home run tech for coming.
Speaker 12 (24:21):
The Tiger offense is one for twenty five with twelve strikeouts.
But it's not over yet. Six nothing Blue Jays in
the top of the night. Blue Jays first in the
Al East, ready to go six and a half games
up on the Yankees Boston for the moment, seven and
a half back. Boston in action right now and leading
Clayton Kershaw on the Dodgers three to two in the fifth.
(24:42):
The Yankees already lost at home today nine to four
to Philadelphia, and Aaron Judge was placed on the injured
list with a strained elbow in progress. Pittsburgh leading Arizona
two nothing in the bottom of the fifth. The Rays
and Reds are tied to two. Bottom of the seventh inning,
Oriole's leading six nothing over the Rockies. Bottom of the sixth,
Colorado with just one hit so far. The Rockies with
(25:03):
a record of twenty seven and seventy six. Rangers lead
for to three over Atlanta. Bottom of the fourth inning.
The Cubs in white Sox game is scoreless in the
top of the sixth. The Cubs are contending in Central.
They are a game behind the Milwaukee Brewers, who right
now are winning three to two against the Marlins. In
the top of the fifth inning. Ays have a one
(25:23):
nothing lead at Houston. At the end of four, Nationals
lead at Minnesota tow nothing in the fifth. Guardians already
played one today at Kansas City in ten innings on
a three run homer in the tenth, the Royals beat
Cleveland five to three. The loser closer Emmanuel Class. In
game two, the nightcab Guardians are leading six to two
at Kansas City top of the fourth They're playing two
(25:45):
after a rainout on Friday. The Padres lead to one
at Saint Louis in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Texans running back Joe Mixon will miss extended camp time
with a foot injury. He'll be re evaluated closer to
opening day in September. Houston sign running back Nick Chubb
this summer. Titans wide receiver Trailon Burke broke his collar
bone in practice today, at least according to NFL Network,
(26:08):
Burke's was hurt diving for a pass. Jets quarterback Justin
Fields returned to limited practice after a dislocated toe this week.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is week to week with a
bad back and will not return to practice on Monday.
Jimmy Garoppolo is the Rams backup QB. Bears rookie wide
receiver Luther Burden missed practice again with his hamstring injury.
(26:28):
The Dolphins signed two defensive backs Mike Hilton Jack Jones
after Ardy Burns torn acl The Vikings gave safety Josh
Mattelus a three year extension. We're twenty five million dollars guaranteed.
One WNBA note. Breonna Stewart of New York has left
Tonight's home game against LA with a leg injury. Right now,
it's LA in the lead, seventy four to sixty nine,
(26:49):
early fourth.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Back to you, Thanks Steve, Martin, Wis and Alex Monico
coming to you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios
and welcoming in producer Bree today.
Speaker 10 (27:02):
What's up, guys, how are you feeling. I'm feeling great.
This is really exciting.
Speaker 13 (27:07):
You're really excited to work with you guys. You guys
have a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
We have normally have Ian in this slot brief filling
in Admiraalby right now, and Brie and I have talked
to you know, I don't want to say at length,
but we talked at times about dating and how things
go around in the world, and we have there are,
you know, ultimately the most red flags you can find.
They're also green flags too. I'm going to take that
spit it into NFL training camps. Let's go ahead, Brie,
(27:34):
you're first.
Speaker 13 (27:36):
My first one is I'm in Jacksonville. Liam Cohen says
that the norm for Travis Hunter will be to quote
flip flop between offense and defense. During each practice session.
You guys, is this like a red flag or a
green flag?
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Flip flop?
Speaker 4 (27:53):
I don't love that.
Speaker 10 (27:56):
Flip flop.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
I'll go green flags.
Speaker 5 (27:59):
I'm sure trying to be Travis Hunter optimistic, but you're
gonna go with flop.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
I mean, it doesn't sound great.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
With the ethos Pathos locost choice of words free, but
I'll say green flop because they're trying to turn a
new leaf over there.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Jack.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
I'll say green flag as well, because they seem to
be all in on the idea that this can happen.
So I'm glad they at least have a semblance of
a plant. I'm with you on that, Martin, because they
need to have a semblance of a plane.
Speaker 10 (28:28):
Is that a plan though? With a flip flop? I'm
just curious.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
It sounds like they maybe they thought about it a
little bit before the question was asked.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
So I don't dating.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
I'm not a plansky. You gotta ask Martin.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
Oh real, I'm a spontaneous lad.
Speaker 13 (28:43):
So you know, I'm just saying, if we're talking about dating,
imagine if I meet a guy and I'm like, oh,
I think I'm gonna flip flop on you. Like some
days you're cool, then I'm called psycho because I flip flop.
Speaker 9 (28:51):
Right, That's called being wish you was.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
I also will say if you watch the interview of
James Gladstone at the introduction press conference Travison, you also
might have seen somebody who was called the psycho.
Speaker 13 (29:01):
All right, guys, it looks like Ramps quarterback Matthew Stafford
is dealing with some back soreness and he's not gonna
return to practice next week as anticipated, says coach Sean McVeigh.
He last week they said that he would be limited
in training camp, but is ready to be going, ready
to go for like the regular season. But is this
like a green flag or red flag? We know how
(29:24):
old Matthew Stafford is, but back soreness.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
Brie, I gotta go a red flag.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
I look, we were just talking Martin and I in
our mid thirties here and having a stretch is now mandatory.
You got a guy three hundred bound men coming out
of in the pocket and he's in his late thirties.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
I don't know how that's a green flag.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
It's gotta be a red flag. It is a slight
red flag for me. I am not concerned about Matthew
Stafford in.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
The regular season. However, I just saw a clip on Twitter.
I have to shout out Warren Sharp. He's the one
who posed that. It reminded me the Vante Adams on
the Receiver series of flicks was so sick of tired
Jimmy Garoppolo being his start quarterback. Then he said, I
gotta get out of here before they f and kill me.
I've never been hit this much in my FN life.
(30:10):
Guess who QB two is in La Jimmy g sir againte.
Speaker 10 (30:15):
Adams just can't get away, he cannot escape. It's like Steve.
Speaker 13 (30:19):
Nash like went to the Lakers and then Mike D'Antoni
was hired, and that was really depressing for me.
Speaker 10 (30:24):
That's a great card, I know, yeah, it was horrible.
Speaker 13 (30:28):
Anyways, Okay, so you're a Saints fan. I'm a Sings fan,
so I'm going to bring up some Saints. So we
assumed that the quarterback competition was going to between two guys,
Tyler Shuck and Spencer Ratler, who I love.
Speaker 10 (30:39):
I love Spencer Rattler.
Speaker 13 (30:40):
But apparently it's a trio tilt between all three, as
Jake Haner has been tossed into the mix. So you guys,
is that like a red flag or a green flag.
I hadn't even really thought about Jake Caner in about
like six months.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Alex san Diego, kid, do you want to go first?
Speaker 1 (30:55):
You're the sax man.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
I got to do the honorary.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Ja Jay Caynor has been a red flag since day
one of ever seeing Jake Hayter. Did you see his
introductory pictures the Zoolander move?
Speaker 3 (31:09):
What are we doing? What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (31:11):
I'm looking at blue steel and your rookie pictures, Mary
Backers looking.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Very google.
Speaker 9 (31:18):
I'm saying, why are you hating on it?
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Though? Because I'm saying looking up and then you tell
me if I'm hating, if I'm hating, or if I'm
being you're a.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Hater for that, I guess. So earn the press conference.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
You gotta earn those photos.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
I feel Jimmy Butler didn't come with Joe still he
was already in.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
The final super red flag. I gotta go big time
red flag.
Speaker 14 (31:40):
This is.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
We would pray that arch Manning.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Is the only other side of this mountain, because three
quarterbacks means none over there in Martin and your your
land has.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
A tough year over there.
Speaker 13 (31:55):
Okay, so Michael Pennock Junior has obviously you know he's
gonna be starter in Atlanta.
Speaker 6 (32:01):
He is.
Speaker 13 (32:02):
He started off his presser at camp on Thursday, sey,
we have to get Kyle Pits the ball. And maybe
I'm just thinking Fantasy world over here, but that is
definitely really interesting. So is that a red flag or
a green flag?
Speaker 4 (32:16):
It's just hilarious.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
I want to go red flag because, including me, anyone
who's ever drafted this man in fantasy too early because
no one's drafted him too late, is sitting.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
There going that's what we're saying.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Every Yeah, it's a red flag. Mark Oh going, Daddy well,
because it's like this Michael Pennix.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
To me, this is our first off season experiencing him
as an NFL starter, and what we are realizing is
that Michael Pennix is he's very much like Jimmy Butler.
When you ask him who's going to win a championship?
I bet he says his team, no matter what. And
they said, how do you want the offense to be?
We're gonna be the number one offense in football. What
are you gonna do? We're gonna throw the ball to
Kyle Pits. All of these things which are not going
(32:59):
to have but in real life. But it's very much
like when your wife or girlfriend tells you, baby, you
can do anything you put your mind to. You know
it's not true, but you appreciate the support. Well said,
that's very well. That sounds like a man about to
get married. That's finds up right there, or.
Speaker 10 (33:14):
Like fourteen days away, right, two weeks.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Yeah, we're coing. It's closing in.
Speaker 13 (33:17):
Okay, So my last one, you guys, it looks like
quarterback Jalen Milroe is impressing everybody in Seattle Seahawks training camp.
Mike McDonald says he has confidence and that's helping him
take a step forward. You can see decisiveness in his game.
His eyes are in the right spot, and he's a
lot more consistent. Is the red flag or a green flag?
Speaker 4 (33:36):
I mean, I'm gonna go green flag. Just all positive.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
It is a defensive minded coach saying all of these
offensive things.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
Take it a little little bit of a grain of salt.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
But look if Donald in any capacity, Martin had a
one off year and goes back to New York Jets, Donald,
this is the biggest green flag up in the PNW
Seattle diehards kid here.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Absolutely, I go another green flag here.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
If you've listened to.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Me on Saturdays, you have known there's been few people
to carry more water for Jalen Milroe than this guy.
And I said, look, I said last during the draft
that if there was a quarterback outside of Cam Moore
that I would take in the first round, it would
have been Jalen Milroe because I thought that at worst
(34:20):
he will be the fastest player on your offense.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
I can figure something out with that, you know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Maybe maybe he won't be able to throw a lick,
but I can figure something out with that athleticism, right,
and sure enough, it looks like, you know, I think
he can throw a pretty good, really good deep ball.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
I would like Jalen Milroe a ton.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
And to your point, would anybody be surprised if Sam
Donald just turned back into a pumpkin?
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Would anybody? Would? Anybody?
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Sam Donald's mom wouldn't be surprised if Sam Donald turned
back into.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
A pump I mean, I'm with you on that, man,
I'm with you on that.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Coming up next, It's never been done before successfully and
NFL history, and these newcomers are trying to do it.
Success or crash and burn. Will get to it in
just a minute. Martin Wis's Alex Monico, Fox Sports Radio.
Martin Weiss, Alex Monico, coming to you live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
I want to throwback jam. It was like pre iPhone
up in here, pree iPhone, Martin. Do you know who
sings this Yellow Card? I think, yo, baby, listen.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
I'm telling you if it was EMO from Ish right,
emo ish, because I wouldn't not consider this emo, but
like Emo adjacent.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
This is the Emo shoulder programming from like oh two
to oh nine. Ish. Yeah, I know all of it.
Speaker 9 (35:47):
I've never heard this song before. Really, this was my
first time hearing a song.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
We all, we'll have a talk about it.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
You like it, I'm margatting to get down for you
on the course. He's got a guitar toops.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
This was a major brand of like like white boy,
kind of like long hair, like.
Speaker 9 (36:02):
Kill those little punky girls too.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
But I've never that trying a kick flip on the
cul de sac, right.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Yeah, everybody doesn't. People ain't me thinking I can skateboard?
Speaker 9 (36:12):
Coming up age type of songs.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Oh, exactly the teenage angst that I had. He did
a violin in their band, if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Card Yeah, speaking of teenage angst. Uh, not quite teenage.
But Travis Hunter and his fiance my wife, yeah, Tger Jason, right,
young adult. Uh you know they're now married. She posted
some video crying. I don't know what that was about, but.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Uh, gen Z's weird. Uh that's my I have been
looking at the Jacksonville roster. That might have been it.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
He's like, my baby gonna be playing a whole lot
this year, right, they gonna be playing on both sides
of the ball and then just flipping and flopping them
back and forth.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
I don't know how this is gonna work.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Not the relationship by that and fifty to fifty marriage
and divorce, that's how that one goes. But the fifty
to fifty time share between offensive defense for Travis Hunter
and the Jacksonville Jaguars. I don't know how it's gonna work,
but I know this. They've gotta let him try.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
They've got a let it. They've gotta let him try.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
I had to look at commercial just to double check
my stigmatism here because I went and looked at time
of possession, and it's not just Travis Hunter playing both ways.
He's going into training camp knowing I don't know anyone
even tipped him off that the worst time of possession
team in the entire NFL last year.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Take a while, guess Martin was, who I go with
the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
That is correct, unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
So with that, do you think that he should be
spending more time focusing on the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 5 (37:39):
See, I think that's a good question, I mean honestly,
because three and ounce mean a lot different on offense
than they do on defense.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
So but the reason I said I have to give
him a chance to do it is because I two
years ago also said I don't see how it's gonna
work at Colorado after I watched that first game at TCU. Yeah,
and I said, this guy might be the best football
player I've ever seen, which happens.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
To me a lot, by the way, I fall in
love with a lot of guys.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
But it's one of those I wonder just and I'll actually,
you know what, tease us at ten thirty Eastern, I'm
gonna talk about how one of the best football players
I've ever seen is being wildly disrespected on al Gorge's Internet,
and I'm not here for it. All I have to
say now Elon Musk's Internet because it used to be
out gorsew Elon bought Twitter, but I thought.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
It wasn't gonna work in Colorado.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
And no matter how you feel about their seasons and
how it went, unequivocally it worked. There was only one
game I thought that he was really hurting them, and
it was when Alma Or from Stanford in year the
first year went for like a cool three hundred on
Travis Hunter as the primary defender. I don't know how
(38:51):
long it work, but I know they got to give
him a shot to do it.
Speaker 5 (38:53):
You have to, And I guess the only kind of
strategy right that's fair is you can mix and mingle him,
mix and mingle him in packages, particularly more on offense
than defense. Right, If he's gonna be a cover corner,
one of your top two corners, he's gonna be locking
down wide receiver one, wide receiver two, no question.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
But on the offensive side, do you roll him out every.
Speaker 5 (39:18):
Play all the time or are you a little more
strategic And you know, let's go Madden with it. If
you're going trips right, if you're going shotgun, if you
need eight nine yards, et cetera, that's when you tap him.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Depends on what kind of horse Travis Hunter is. If
he's a thorough bread, then I think you're probably tapping
him on the helmet.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Hey, buddy, come have a seat next to me. Catch
you win.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
If he's the unicorn that James Gladstone Jaguars GMCM to
think he is training up in the first round.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
To go get him.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
You know what I'm saying, all right, like making these
moves like I think then they are going like that's
what's saying. They have to the way they've moved and
the way that he in the pre drag My process
was like, look, I'm playing both sides, bro, Like, they
have to give him the opportunity to fail.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
I do like that thought. I'm with you on that.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
They have to give him the opportunity to struggle at
one of them and say, hey, you know what, We're
gonna give you some more time to.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Try to you know, we're gonna scale back.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Maybe some of the offense we're gonna scale back, maybe
some of the defense. We're gonna go with what you're
great at now, right, and maybe maybe.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Only be a pro bowler on one side of the ball,
and that's okay.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
Can I ask you this, if this works to great proportion?
Speaker 5 (40:30):
Is this I don't want to go as far as
Steph Curry everyone trying to be him growing up playing ball?
Are you looking at the painting differently? If you're playing
Pop Warner early high school? I could play both ways
and maybe up my value on the draft one day.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
I think if you're good enough to play both ways
early high school, you probably are.
Speaker 15 (40:48):
You know.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Where you're at.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
But no, I can't imagine, like, I don't think that
in fifteen years, well see a bunch of guys throwing
and hitting like Shoel Tany. We're not gonna see a
bunch of guys doing this either, unless it's like no
small school type of stuff coming up. This is a
team that nobody is talking about that can actually win
a Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
I'll tell you why coming up next.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
Don't listen to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
That's right, we're broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio
studios on a Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Martin Wise joined
here with Alex Monico. If you want to join us
on Twitter, feel free. I'm at Martin Weiss on the
X machine, Monico at Alex Underscore Underscore Monico.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
As we sit here looking around.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Baseball watch Threek School Bowl go six innings, no runs
for the Tigers, just blow it in the eighth and
ninth Anny blowing the under and the game in a
school Bowl game and it was not Steve.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
Just said they lost six of their last whatever, they'll
never win again.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
It was fun while the last year the Red Sox
up on the Dodgers four to two, as the Dodgers
are trying to figure out their pitching.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
Well, but I wanted to touch on the NFC.
Speaker 12 (42:05):
Do it.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Because I think there's been a lot of focus on
the Super Bowl. Obviously the Super Bowl reigning champion of
Philadelphia Eagles. The Lions, another team that may led the
NFC for most of the season, if not the entire season,
almost wired to wires. One seed lost in their first
(42:28):
playoff game near the Commanders, right, So the Commanders and
Jaydon Daniels, that's a team that we both are.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Kind of like.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
I think they're really being the NFC championship game level
team next year. Not sure about that. However, there's one
team that I think is underrated right now in terms
of the way that.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
People look at their super Bowl potential.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
They got a veteran quarterback, they got a run a
head coach, and they're in a very weak division. And
we saw that strategy work for the doing of the
Patriots for years. They just inked up there. They ain't
that better a quarterback to a contract extends want to
keep them there for a long time.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
He's thirty years old. This is what he had to
say about his team team franchises.
Speaker 15 (43:24):
But like that when you step in and your GM
and your head coach say, hey, just be you. After
I've been told at every stop and everywhere I go, hey,
you need to tone it down a little bit.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
You need to be a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 15 (43:36):
It's just not who I am, Like I where are
my emotions on my sleeves.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
We've hung out, you guys know me.
Speaker 15 (43:40):
I'm ever. But when it's time to turn the lights
on and go do something, I'm going to do it.
So when I stepped into the building, they all told
me to just be myself. And so it's been not
to say like comfortable, but it's felt like home since
the beginning, and as a quarterback that's been through a
little bit of a journey, you can't ask for anything else.
Speaker 3 (43:57):
Now. That's one.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
Baker Mayfield, former number one overall pick, talking to two
guys very familiar with Cleveland, Travis Kelsey and Jason Kelsey
in the New Heights podcast, and Baker Mayfield has found
a legitimate home in Tampa. The GM talks about him, like,
what do you like about Baker the most? And it's
something that you got to bleep on the radio because
he's like, I just like that he's a tough, sl beat,
(44:21):
tough tougher to two leather, right, And they like the
fact that he's kind of a pricklyague character and they're
into that, and they like the fact that they're like
they're into and.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
We saw in Cleveland they weren't for it.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
In Carolina, he was lining up in practice squad defense
and he went to the Rams just just fast enough
to lose me one bet on a Thursday night football
game where he wore the number seventeen and goes to Tampa.
And since Baker's been at tampa's been three years, two
Pro Bowls, Division Winner in and out and I think
if the Lions take a step back, this is the team,
(44:56):
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that people are not paying attention to.
I think you'll have one really good team in the North,
in the NFC North, between the Lions, the Packers, and
the Vikings. I think it'll be the Lions, but I
think you have one really good team out of there.
I think you'll have one really good team out of
the East, probably the Eagles. I'm not seeing it for
(45:17):
the Cowboys. I think the Commanders would be pretty good. Yeah,
definitely not seeing it for the Giants. I think you'll
have maybe two good teams out of the West. Maybe
San Francisco could bounce back. Nick bose To say they
can win a Super Bowl kind of think the Cardinals
will have a better run this year. Sure, if you
a little bit on the Seahawks. The South will have
one good team. It will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Not up on Bryce Young and the Boys.
Speaker 5 (45:39):
They will have one good team with Honestly, it was
not Bakers offense last year that held the back.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
It was middle of the pack defense.
Speaker 5 (45:48):
Which is ironic because you go back to the Super
Bowl a couple of years back that defense was absolute nails,
but they set crazy numbers last year. They put up
over five on We're top five in scoring, top three
and yards, passing yards top five and rushing. We know
about Bucky irving here to stay, but it's kind of
(46:09):
the sound by Martin adding a lot to that. Baker's comfortable.
Baker's a guy that's an absolute gamer. You know this,
When he's locked in and he's allowed to be himself,
you get the best. Baker really have to be a
special lad to come in after the goat, after a
super Bowl with real turnover and keep winning pedigree alive.
(46:30):
Not only do they have that, now to your point,
you feel like they could run the table.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
I think that, Look, this is a team that the
last few years.
Speaker 2 (46:38):
Have run into the Lions in the postseason, and that's
been the team that's kind of knocked them out of
this thing. But when I just look at the rest
of the South, I think the Panthers have an opportunity
to be, like, hey, at best seven win team. I
think the Falcons are You're probably your best competition around there.
But still, you know, the Falcons are one of those
(47:01):
teams guys like every year you kind of fall in
love with the potential of them, and every year they're like,
how did this team only.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
Win seven games?
Speaker 2 (47:09):
You know, it's like this team should have been way
better and they're gonna win seven eight games and be like,
all right, And I think the Saints have a legitimate
shot to be the worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (47:19):
You make a good point because if you are assessing
both timing of back in the futures for a team,
looking at their strength of schedule, looking at really who
they're playing six times out of seventeen games with momentum
from last year, I mean, the Bucks check a lot
of boxes.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
And think about last year. You lost Godwin for a
good amount of time. He had that knee injury that's
made obviously they struggled with that. They added Abuca this year.
Bker was on that same New Heights podcast talking about
how much of a stud and Mechabuka is.
Speaker 3 (47:51):
Let me tell you something.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
I watched that boy play against Michigan four times and
they lost all four.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
But here a really good player.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
I did lose all four, but he a really good player.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
He is a really really good player.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
And I think the defense suffered a lot of injuries
last year, but the Levonte Dave Antoine winfields are still
at all pro level safety when he's able to stay
out there. He got hurt a little bit last year.
And but to the overall point, this team should go
five to one in division.
Speaker 3 (48:16):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
Like and if you go five to one in division,
you have an inside shot at the one seed. If
you have an inside shot at the one seed, you
have an inside shot at the super Bowl. I like
these teams super Bowl odds. They're not even near that.
Speaker 3 (48:32):
They're not.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
They're in the top third, but they're not in the
usual suspects. I really think that this team sitting here
in July twenty six, if you asked me super Bowl
bubble in or out, Buccaneers are.
Speaker 5 (48:43):
In and strength to schedule four eighty one win percent
is sitting at nineteenth, closer towards the cupcake Niners schedule
than the daunting Eagles or Giants top five schedule. I like,
where your head's at. I do the question remains Ken Baker,
who we remember seven point dogs going into Detroit outright
(49:05):
sleep them? Is he a guy that you feel when
there's expectations, when there's eyeballs on him, plays up to
part or does he do better when he's doubted.
Speaker 3 (49:16):
When he's done.
Speaker 5 (49:17):
This is back to the six foot four to six
foot five man, and you're a six foot three guy.
I'm five foot ten fighting to be in the six
foot club. I'm closer to the Mayfield, You're closer to Peyton
and Tom. But in all seriousness, when there's expectations and
eyeballs on Baker, does he play as well than when
he's dogged and dragged a little in the media or
anywhere Vegas, et cetera.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
I'd say it.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
I think that if you had said this four years ago,
it'd have been like, yeah, he needs to have the
chip on his shoulder. He's guys seems to be super
externally motivated, but Tampa Baker feels different. And I was
out on year one, year two, I'm like, okay, now
I'm not just but I would just say they're saying
(50:02):
the right things.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
They love him, they want to extend him. He wants
to extend there. And it's I think that.
Speaker 2 (50:11):
That attitude that he had going into college and being
like it's us against the world, it doesn't work when
it also feels like your own team is against you.
And I think that was some of the energy that
was received by Baker in Cleveland, right, Like remember when
Odell Beckham's dad put out to everybody hers video.
Speaker 3 (50:29):
Like yesterday. Right.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
The thing that fascinated me about it was there's no
Cleveland and people being like, hey, stop making fun of Baker.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
This is our quarterback, right absolutely so. I don't think
he was very well liked.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
I think his experiences have taught him. You know, hey, man,
knock him down a peck. How many former number on
over our picks are playing on the practice squad at
a different position.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
Very few.
Speaker 5 (50:51):
It is one of the best stories in football, not
talked about enough. I appreciate you bringing it up. It
bodes well too. His style. He's protecting the pirate ship
down there. There's this certain dog in Tampa that's appreciated
all the way back to the SAP John Lynch days.
They always respect guys who are themselves. It seems it's
(51:12):
just again to your point, such a laid out division
and Les Pennix comes out of nowhere and the Falcons
steal the South.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
That's the one loss I'm giving the buccaneer. He split.
I think they split with Atlanta.
Speaker 5 (51:25):
It's just to me, there are expectations. They're supposed to
win at least nine games, ten games.
Speaker 4 (51:34):
Do you think he's a guy like? Could be a
futures bet?
Speaker 3 (51:37):
Could be? Is this a team you do want.
Speaker 4 (51:40):
To jump on early?
Speaker 5 (51:42):
Sit back and watch them, and then everyone else, maybe
in the sports media world, catch up to you.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
That's kind of what I think. I think that look
damn a shot. I think they'll be live.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
I think if you bet it today in November, you'll
feel good about your chances.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
I'm with you. Do you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (51:58):
If you bet it today, you're looking at that to
get that, and you'll do the same thing I've done
a million times with the futures bet, be like, Man,
did you see the odds went down from twenty to
one to four to one.
Speaker 3 (52:10):
And you know he still didn't win it.
Speaker 2 (52:11):
You know it's like, but you feel good about it,
at least without questioning, Oh my goodness. Coming up next,
the star quarterback from last season is now throwing to
equipment managers. Wow, how fast things change? Or have they changed?
Loo get that in just a moment. Martin Weiss, Alex

Speaker 9 (53:21):
Well, it can mean two different things.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
Well, we're gonna go with YouTube music.
Speaker 9 (53:25):
No, I'm saying why T not y TM.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
Well we're gonna go with that meaning YouTube. I'm not
gonna go with anything else.

You'all making SPORTSOK Radio so redundant. At this point, he's
going right out. If Jerry supposedly does the same thing
every year and Tack and CD and trevaon and everybody
else got paid, why are you making a big deal.
Of course you'll get paid like everybody else. This is
capital F fake capital O outrage.
Speaker 3 (54:09):
That's from superstar Dad.
Speaker 9 (54:10):
It's about quality, not quantity.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
Exactly, it's exactly. Just because you're gonna keep doing the
wrong thing doesn't mean you should keep doing Harry's on
it dropping the heat. You know it is.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Because you keep doing something, it doesn't mean you should silly, silly,
it was Sanders. He sped once, he did it again,
dumber to do it the second time, that it's the first.
Speaker 4 (54:32):
I continue to not stretch.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
I should continue to not continue to not stretch.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
Should definitely stretch. What did you say earlier today? Things
that you have to intentionally do in your thirties?
Speaker 4 (54:45):
Why it was so often?
Speaker 3 (54:46):
Again?
Speaker 4 (54:46):
I all I remember is stretching was one of the three.
Speaker 3 (54:49):
It was.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
It was great, all right, Well, shad Door Sanders at
Brown's training camp apparently has been working out with people
who are not necessarily who you think you know. Cedric
Tellman out there. You know, a lojamore out there. No, no, no,
se Door Sanders has not been taking first team reps
(55:11):
and in fact has been throwing to some equipment managers. Now,
they didn't necessarily give the specs for these equipment managers,
whether they are for or four speed, or whether they
can catch or anything, but they did say Shador is
throwing to the equipment managers. And uh, we got Daniel
o'fuse from ESPN got the response from Shador when he
(55:34):
asked the question about how he felt about not getting
first team reps and about how we get throwing to
the equipment managers.
Speaker 9 (55:41):
Uh, it doesn't, It doesn't really phaze me. You gotta understand,
we we went, we.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
Came all the way from HBCU to the Power five
and now we hear so at this point, if you
look around, it's nothing.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
It's nothing.
Speaker 5 (55:55):
You know.
Speaker 9 (55:55):
That's that's a challenge. I say, So, what's redundant? By
the way, yes, it is.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
So when you're going into this and you're considering and
you're reading the reports, you doors moving with the fourth team,
moving with the third team, I kind of do not
take too much stock into all of those because it's
July twenty sixth, Whereas we.
Speaker 3 (56:21):
Have a lot of time before we decide who the
starter is gonna.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
Be, and I know that we have to every single
training camp throws a referendum.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
But I will say.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
When I read that he was throwing to the equipment managers,
I was like this, this.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
Feels like a sign.
Speaker 5 (56:40):
Takes me back to my freshman football days, where I
played in the fifth quarter. You were probably far too
athletic to have played in the fifth quarter.
Speaker 4 (56:48):
Do you even know what the fifth quarter is?
Speaker 2 (56:49):
There was a club called fifth quarter in that harbor
when I was in college, But I don't playing in
the rit I don't assume you were talking about overtime.
Speaker 5 (56:58):
This is this has given me a little little bit
of shades of that.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
I can't I'm with you, I can't imagine this is
a good sign. Is this writing on the wall though?
Speaker 3 (57:07):
Or is this July? Or is it both? I I
don't know how you well.
Speaker 2 (57:13):
First of all, there's all types of stories coming out
of Browns camp. I saw Andrew Berry said they're gonna
may try to keep four quarterbacks. I can't imagine they're
keeping four quarterbacks. I can't imagine that should door Sanders
would clear waivers if you cut them, like I wonder
if you clear waivers fifth round pick.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
I think it was underdrafted. But I would just say.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
Very much like you said earlier today about the Saints,
and there you have three quarterbacks, you have none. Yeah,
I thought your Door Sanders was gonna be really good
in the NFL. I'm starting to wonder if Cleveland has
any quarterbacks like I thought your Door Sanders was going
to be a second round pick.
Speaker 5 (57:58):
I'm with you. I'm sitting here, I'm sad. I'm disappointed.
He's throwing to a non Bobby Bouchet talent on the
week of hap you go more too, And we're talking
he might be fourth out of four on the depth chart. Martin,
and you and I are in the same camp. We
thought this dude would And of all the places of
(58:20):
teams with low self esteem, you think you would get
a shot in the land.
Speaker 3 (58:24):
I put it to you like this.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
There have been not just one or two or three,
but there have been several people who have said, when
the Browns pick with the number one overall pick next year,
maybe they could get Nick Saban because they'll have Archie Manny.
Speaker 4 (58:42):
There's no way, the Brown's gonna be arch.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
Manny, not Archie Manny, arch manning the quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Archie Manny.
Speaker 3 (58:48):
Myself thought his name Archie Manny.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
No, but it's it's and just how fast things change,
Like Shador the Thursday of the NFL Draft, because you
know the draft now must be four day and a
half days long for reasons unknown to me. But I said,
I think, I think when we come back to work
on Friday, we'll be asking who draft Shador Sanders. I
(59:13):
thought he was gonna be a second round pick. I
didn't see a team. I thought he was a stretch
at a first round pick. And if you're gonna take
a stretch at a first round pick, you take a
guy who's got an elite trade Jalen Milroe, elite speed,
great point. I thought Shador Sanders could play in the NFL, though,
and the way that the Browns are moving through the
first few weeks of training camp, it makes me wonder
(59:36):
if they think Shador Sanders can play in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
Can we let's just do a little work backwards here.
Speaker 5 (59:41):
Let's pretend we're we We're in the Stefanski quarterback coaching
room and we're talking out all four guys, can he
Pickett is on his third team.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
We haven't even He's been on more teams, and.
Speaker 5 (59:53):
He has starts almost Flack Go's halfway to AA RP
and Sizzler dinner at f We know what he is,
we know what he's not. All right, quality backup on
an emergency, emergency scenario. And then we're talking about a
guy my height, Dyan Gabriel, who played how many places,
how many Van Wilder Wives. You would think we would
(01:00:16):
have a guy not having to throw in late July
to equipment managers to try to work up the depth chart.
Mart am My sorely off on the other three lads
in the running.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
That's the other thing that gives me the biggest cause
for concern because it is not a murderer's row. You
just laid it out. Joe Flacco would rather be driving carpool.
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
Facts.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
In fact, Joe Flacco, I say driving carpool. Joe Flacco
is probably dropping his kids off after spring break, back
up their college.
Speaker 4 (01:00:45):
You know, right there with Philip Rivers Bay right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
And then to your point, Kenny Pickett, to me, he
was a stretch at twenty, which is big part of
the reason why I thought Pittsburgh wasn't gonna take Chador
within the twenties.
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
I think that the nineteenth overall pick in the first round.
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
Like we just we just did that. We saw that
movie already and it turned into Kenny Pickett.
Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
We saw it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
I think that the biggest loser potentially is Kenny pick
I also think he's got the guys probably with the
most maybe with the most value, maybe with the most value.
I do think it's interesting that you have in Indianapolis
right now. The last time they were any good, Joe
Flackel was starting quarterback's that's that's fair, and they're in
(01:01:31):
a quarterback competition of sorts at the moment.
Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
But this is the team.
Speaker 4 (01:01:36):
We just did a segment right before commercial who had
a guy in their.
Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
Locker room and they blew it. They disrespected him with
Baker Mayfield correct, So it's like who with And yes
he did have a little Freddy Kitchens, but Stefanski, you'd
like to think Martin knows who the guy is.
Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
And I think we're sitting here going, oh my gosh,
this is.
Speaker 5 (01:02:01):
The Saints out nothing on Cleveland. Because I see your
three quarterbacks, I raise you four, and we have zero four.
Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Well, it depends on how you look at it. You
have the Saints, like, you know what we could do.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
We could be the first team to guarantee a quarterback
who drafted in the forties. I know, of course, who
could rent the car because he's twenty five freaking years old.
We because he's had several season ending injuries. Gotta lock
that guy up long term. Gotta fully guarantee that contract.
Can't miss all them. So Tyler shuck awesome, can't wait?
Speaker 5 (01:02:34):
How does this Sure Sanders season end?
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
How does it end?
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Honestly, I think it ends with the Browns having a
top three pick, because I think, and honestly.
Speaker 5 (01:02:44):
So, we're gonna just fall on our short we're both
sorely wrong before Cleveland's oh and oh, and we're just wrong.
We're wrong on assessing him out of college where he
was going in the draft and on the Cleveland Brown
step chart. We're really gonna watch a father of how
men play cold the socc football.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Again, when you say father, you're talking about Joe Flacco.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
But I do think this.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
I think we'll see if there's four quarterbacks on the roster,
we'll see all four.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
If there's three, quarterbacks on the roster. We'll see three.
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
If there's one thing that has been true of the
Cleveland Browns in the last four years, if you play
quarterback for them at any stage, you will see the field, Buddy,
you will see the field. Come up next. He's our starter,
no backup. Steve de Seger franchise player, Steve de Seger.
How about this only happens in baseball? I love I
They're gonna touch on it in a moment. The end
(01:03:35):
game trade only feel like it happens in baseball.
Speaker 12 (01:03:38):
I remember when Jose Canseco, I believe, was on deck
and they called him back, and that's because he got
traded during a game.
Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
Wow.
Speaker 12 (01:03:46):
Wow, Randall Gritchik to the Royals. The trade deadline comes
up on Thursday in Major League Baseball, so there will
be larger deals. There will be no deals of players
coming to Colorado. You mentioned earlier show there was a
third baseman going from Colorado to the Yankees and he
played today. By the way, it's the Yankees did lose again.
(01:04:07):
We'll get to that in a moment, but I think
we've mentioned this on the show before. The Colorado Rockies
are not good this year.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Absolutely horrible, and the.
Speaker 12 (01:04:15):
Record is currently twenty seven and seventy six. They are
playing at Baltimore, a team that frankly is not good
this year. The Rockies offense is one for twenty four
and going to the bottom of the eighth the Orioles
League Colorado seventeen to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
You think when Ryan McMahon got traded that the rest
of his teammates were like like it was like like
when a guy gets released from jail, and it's like,
hope I don't see you back here, buddy, hope you
don't come back.
Speaker 12 (01:04:42):
He goes up thirty games in the standings in one
fell swoop, the Yankees lost at home to Philadelphia today
nine to four. That was nine to one in the
seventh inning. Ranger Suarez another win, five and two third innings,
one run, allowed, eight strikeouts.
Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
He's eight and four.
Speaker 12 (01:04:56):
Aaron Judge was placed on the al by the Yanks
with a strained Meanwhile, Toronto as one again. They've won
nineteen of twenty three, their first place in the Allies
six and a half games over the Yankees. Looks like
Boston will still be seven and a half back. Red
Sox are up four to two over the Dodgers in
the eighth right now on Fox TV for much of
the country. The Toronto win was six to one at Detroit.
(01:05:19):
The Tigers have lost six in a row. Wasted another
good effort from starter Trek Scooble, who's ten and three,
six scoreless innings, seven strikeouts, no decision. Cincinnati beat Tampa
Bay six to two. Tonight, Kansas City won the first
of a double header in ten innings on a three
run homer from Jonathan India five to three over Cleveland.
As for the nightcap, the Guardians are in the lead
(01:05:41):
six to four at Case in the bottom of the seventh.
Padres are winning at Saint Louis two to one in
the top of the eighth, Mets at Giant scoreless second inning.
The Nationals lead seven too at Minnesota in the top
of the eighth. The A's are two to one leaders
at Houston in the bottom of the eighth. No, not
a barrage of home runs like the A's game last
(01:06:01):
night in Houston, where Nick Kurtz, an unknown rookie, hit four,
the first rookie ever to hit four home runs in
one game. That occurred last night. Marlin's lead at Milwaukee
seven to three in the top of the ninth. Milwaukee
is the first place team in the EDEL Central, one
game over the Cubs.
Speaker 3 (01:06:17):
Cubs do have the lead at the White.
Speaker 12 (01:06:18):
Sox six nothing in the top of the ninth to
the ninth, Braves tied at Texas four to four, and
in the bottom of the eighth inning at Pittsburgh Pirates
two nothing over Arizona. Texan's running back Joe Mixon will
miss extended camp time due to a foot injury. Titans
wide receiver Trailon Burks broke his collarbone in practice today
(01:06:40):
that according to NFL Network, he was hurt diving for
a pass. Justin Field's Jets quarterback returned to limited practice
today after a dislocated toe this week. And in the WNBA,
La wins on a layup at the Buzzer at New
York one on one ninety nine, Brianna Stewart of the
Liberty left with a leg injury.
Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
Back to you, thanks, Steve Martin Weiss.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Alex Monico coming to you live from the tire rack
dot Com Studios. Ryan McMahon traded from the Colorado Rockies
to the New York Yankees. I'm trying to pull up
the quote, but basically he was like, like, oh, my goodness,
is every kid's dream, and I think every kid's dream,
like I don't kneel legitimately to.
Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
Leave the Rockies or go to the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
Like seriously, quite seriously, how on earth do you remain
motivated when you have lost fifty some odd more times
than you've won.
Speaker 5 (01:07:37):
It's also upsetting the abs of ink, the Stanley Cup,
the nuggets of into ring. Would it rub off the
Broncos bo Nicks here to stay? And No, We're just
gonna win one game for every five games we lose.
Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
Yeah, this is every kid's dream. McMahon said.
Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
When you're nine ten years old hitting wiffle balls in
the backyard, you're picturing yourself in Game seven of the
World's Series at Yankee Stadium. Do you think the phrase
World Series have been uttered in the Rockies clubhouse at
all this season?
Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
Maybe in a manifestation exercise, like at all this season?
You know, at all? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
It's just yeah, Okay, So there you go, Ryan McMahon,
newest Yankee, congratulations to him. Newest Minnesota Viking quarterback JJ McCarthy.
You know, I saw Justin Jefferson and I paid a
lot of attention to Justin Jefferson because I've followed him
(01:08:39):
for almost his entire career because I played high school
basketball as his older brother.
Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
Oh right, so I've so I've very athletic families.
Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
Rightly, it's just ridiculous. I mean evidence by the fact
that older brother was may have been the better athlete
than Justin what they say now, Justin obviously benefited from
against older brothers the entirety of his life, and you
know it worked, of course, But Justin Jefferson basically said
(01:09:09):
about JJ McCarthy that you have to have patients.
Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
He's pretty much a rookie. Last year doesn't count.
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
He's new to this scheme, new to coming out here
and throwing it to different receivers. You're not really expecting
him to have the same mindset of a veteran.
Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
And that's true.
Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
But with these training camp quotes, you have to kind
of read between the lines. You know who they're not
saying you have to have patients for right now? And
I know that you may not have seen this because
I don't know what has to happen for this team
to make national news. But no one's talking about how
cam Ward needs patience.
Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
Ooh right.
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
In fact, I'm looking at cam Warden making pro day
throws in training camp, right, and they're talking about, oh
my god, watch this right. I know he's the most
least talked about number one overall pick in my lifetime.
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
However, it's kind of it's it's a bit of that,
you know what. It's a bit of.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
You know, hey, JJ McCarthy, he threw five interceptions in practice.
But you know, we got to have a real we
have to really be confident in JJ, and really like
no one is telling like, no one, no receivers out
there telling me how confident we have to be.
Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
In CJ.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
Stroud, No receivers out there telling me how confident we
have to be. And Jared Golf right, and no one,
no one is out there telling me how confident we
have to be in even even in Pittsburgh and Aaron Rodgers,
that's not the story coming out of there.
Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
And Martin, you have the confident factor, you also have
the patience factor.
Speaker 5 (01:10:48):
This fan base watched fourteen wins and a quarterback who
was running this team leave for a guy you could
make the case was in eight and you're a Michigan man.
You gotta tell me top tier infrastructuretely where all you
have to do is and I'm not saying he wasn't
(01:11:08):
a gun slinger, but is there a world where we
could say, with twenty two touchdowns two years in a row,
that he's closer to a game manager than a gun
slinger out of Michigan with the again, the offensive line,
they had, the weapons, the run game.
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
I mean, of course, the top ten.
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
D that Michigan team to win a national championship. I
believe the number is twenty two players sent to the
NFL combines. You only can play eleven at a time.
You know what that is At any moment, at any
GIF you only play eleven.
Speaker 5 (01:11:39):
And you know, and horriball how much does do you
think Harbaugh, being a salesman and a great like Saban's
done this a million times. Calipari for the NBA has
done this a million times. Is there any element to
where maybe Harball at the same time he's going to
the league Alas McCarthy, zero to lose, not going back
to college, turn in the corner. Let me just go
all in and be a rock guy for every single
(01:12:01):
one of my Michigan Blue and whatever happens is whatever happens,
none of my concern My.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Biggest concern with JJ McCarthy, I have a few That
knee injury he had last year was his first major injury,
so he's working through that. And the problem with that,
as it's been explained to me, because I've never been
a athletes that anybody cared about. When you are hurt
and recovering, you are spending that season rehabbing, the off
(01:12:27):
season rehabbit. Yeah, not getting better. So the idea that
you know, he's new to the scheme, so don't love that.
Would have liked it if he was able to, you know,
study the book prior, Like he's walking into the same situation.
The other thing that concerns me actions over words. They
(01:12:48):
were in on Sam Darnold, they were in on the Vikings,
I mean were in on Daniel Jones. They were answering
the phone for Aaron Rodgers. You know who wasn't answering
the phone for Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
Kansas City? Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
Like like that's like Kansas City wasn't answering the phone
for Aaron Rodgers. Faron Rodgers called Andy Reid, would be
like get off my line.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
No flirting can be had, no knee you.
Speaker 3 (01:13:10):
Know what I'm saying, Like, like, so that's the thing
that like if you are. It reminds me of when
Russell Wilson was leaving Seattle.
Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
He said, I don't want to be traded, but if
I were to be traded, these are the teams I
like to be traded. It's like, so, you know, like
I'm happily married, but if I wasn't, I'd be dating her.
Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
Like what are we talking about? I can't do that.
You can't do that. That's not the way this war
year either, not on a turn over year. So I
just he's also in the top two division in football.
Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
Mark we did red Flags, Green Flags earlier today and
check the podcast about an hour ago. We did that
from some of this training camp stories red flags, green flags.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
This one massive red flag for me.
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
This is the team that won fourteen regular teas and
games last year, smashing under smashing.
Speaker 5 (01:13:57):
This is a man who saw with his own mission
Michigan ies a Michigan quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:14:01):
I'm kind of with you.
Speaker 5 (01:14:04):
There's not a lot of room for error, there's minimal patients.
There's pressure up the wazoo to your point of not
getting better injured, and the predecessor won fourteen games, and
he was closer to a complete botch of a quarterback
of where he was drafted versus success. He got second
(01:14:25):
life up there in the Pacific Northwest. Now it's all
on McCarthy. I'm with you, right.
Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
That little trip to the Pacific Northwest got Sam Donald
a hundred million more dollars and three years more guaranteed
because he was going to be on a one year
I mean, it really did work out. And that's the
other thing about this Minnesota situation under JJ just heard it.
I mean, I'm sorry, justin Jefferson just heard his hamstring.
I'm not too worried about that in terms of the
regular season, but I am worried about Kevin O'Connell. Has
(01:14:51):
that success with a ton of different players throwing that
ball and had maybe not necessarily maybe the playoffs, had
a big playoff success.
Speaker 3 (01:14:59):
But he's Mannion's look good at that offense.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
You know, all types of folks have looked good and
that Koc offense. JJ McCarthy needs to be the next
one up. That gives me a little cost for concern.
But coming up next producer Bree's doing a great drop today.
We'll see how good it continues to be the game
of who you Got? Martin Weiss and Alex Monico coming
to you live from the fax A Sports Radio Studios.
(01:15:25):
I'm at Martin Wise, Alex is at Alex Underscore Underscore Monico,
and play along. Tweet us your answers if you'd like.
It's trying to play a game of who you Got?
Speaker 13 (01:15:36):
Already, guys, I guess I'll introduce myself here and just say.
Speaker 10 (01:15:40):
Okay, ready, Well you didn't really introduce yourself there.
Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
You didn't really go ahead? Can. I thought you were
gonna be like, Okay, Bree, who you got?
Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
Or you can?
Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
Well, producer Brie and for Ian this today on this Saturday,
Ian Off, I saw him with a little mixed drink
by the pool.
Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
So I hope he's having fun. Don't run.
Speaker 10 (01:15:58):
He doesn't miss you guys, for sure?
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
Yeah, I don't think so. I don't feel missed at all.
Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
So Bree has a name, yes, and she has several
clues to help us determine just who that person.
Speaker 13 (01:16:10):
I don't know, it's gonna be too easier, too hard,
but let's try this Okay, all right, So this player
averaged six point seven six yards per carry in his
three years as an Oklahoma Sooner.
Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
So there's a few things we could dissume from this.
And I think I actually might have the answer.
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
I think I got I think I got that.
Speaker 4 (01:16:29):
I think I think I got it too.
Speaker 3 (01:16:31):
Who do you think it is. I'm gonna go with that.
I'm gonna go with McFadden. No, it's not McFadden.
Speaker 9 (01:16:38):
I should have warned her beforehand.
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
Yeah, this is Joe Mixon.
Speaker 9 (01:16:44):
Oh wow, it's more, and I didn't warn you. But
it's more.
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
It's a wizard. It was a sixth you said it
was how many yards per carry.
Speaker 10 (01:16:52):
Over us of your fast six point seven.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Six point seven six yards per carry at Oklahoma led
the nation in Russian in rushing one year in ed Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:17:01):
Yes, drafted in the third round by the Bengals.
Speaker 10 (01:17:04):
In the second round.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
Second round, by the reading all her clues, I don't
know what they are, but I'm just saying. Drafts in
the secondrod by the Bengals after Okay, after domestic violence
incident in a bar.
Speaker 10 (01:17:14):
Okay, that he was suspended that year?
Speaker 3 (01:17:16):
Was she spended that year?
Speaker 10 (01:17:17):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
At Oklahoma. That's why you're the second round pick? What
else you have on the list?
Speaker 13 (01:17:21):
He was the blank running back chosen that year. In
twenty seventeen, what number do you think he will make
it a little more interesting?
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
Let's see in twenty seventeen, Joe Mixon would have been
the was Eddie Lacy in that? No, that's too soon,
Freddy Lay. No, No, that's Eddie. Let's too soon, Freddy Lacy.
Joe Mixon would have been the third back off the board.
Speaker 10 (01:17:40):
He was the fourth closest fourth.
Speaker 3 (01:17:41):
Who are the other three?
Speaker 10 (01:17:42):
I'm gonna look that up. It looks like Melvin.
Speaker 3 (01:17:45):
Melvin Gordon the Chargers.
Speaker 10 (01:17:46):
Now I didn't have that. Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 13 (01:17:52):
Okay, Christian McCaffrey, Yes, it looks like Dalvin.
Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
Cook to the Vikings. But pick like forty one? Ish?
Speaker 10 (01:18:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:18:03):
Is that right? I shouldn't want you.
Speaker 13 (01:18:06):
I'm so mad that I messed this up. Leonard Fournette
was in the first round for to the Jaguar. Yes,
and then Joe makes sim umber four.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
So what pick was Dalvin Cooked? Was he the forty
first pick?
Speaker 15 (01:18:18):
Yes?
Speaker 10 (01:18:18):
He was? Wow, that is wild like that.
Speaker 4 (01:18:23):
I'm sick.
Speaker 3 (01:18:23):
I McFadden went to Arkansas.
Speaker 1 (01:18:26):
I was going.
Speaker 5 (01:18:29):
I was trying to beat the wizard, and I should
have known that.
Speaker 10 (01:18:33):
I should have started with this clue. I'm just curious.
Speaker 13 (01:18:35):
He was only he was only the third running back
in NFL history to throw a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 10 (01:18:41):
Would you have gotten it from that?
Speaker 3 (01:18:42):
I don't think I would have.
Speaker 10 (01:18:45):
No, I should have started with.
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
I don't think I would have, and now honestly would
have thrown me off a lot too.
Speaker 10 (01:18:49):
Dang it, I had it. That was one of my clues.
So I don't know if I should have. Now I know.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
McCaffrey threw a touchdown the Super Bowl.
Speaker 10 (01:18:56):
Now, okay, yes, I want to say.
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
Oh, it was a Patriot running back. I was about
to say the Garrett Blunt, but I.
Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
Think he was white. Uh that field?
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
Like maybe I think so, oh, throw a touchdown on
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 10 (01:19:15):
Oh, if Steve Hartman was here?
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Anyway, I know, I'm pretty sure christmamcacafrey there. I think
I bet on that Christian McCaffrey was, because that's one
of my favorite super Bowl what's that? Oh, Lawrence mccutchey
at the other Yeah, I would never have got a
new house.
Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
Lawrence McCutcheon would have never gotten that. All right, he
want more. I gotta bounce back. I can't bounce back.
I just got to hold y L. I think what
what else? Did Joe Mix signed by the Texans last year?
Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
Led demon rushing?
Speaker 13 (01:19:41):
Okay, he rushed for more than a thousand yards y
inn a season? How many different times?
Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (01:19:47):
I also six?
Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
Nah? Not six? Couldn't have been six. I'm gonna go
with three.
Speaker 10 (01:19:52):
Four, four, three and fours. It's not your thing. It's
like three or four.
Speaker 2 (01:19:56):
See, that was the biggest problem. I always had math class.
I'd be right there, I'd be right there, could show
all of my work.
Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
And everything, and then it'd be like, but you just
got the number wrong. Of us. This should count for
more than eight out of ten.
Speaker 13 (01:20:09):
You know, I'm gonna come back next time when I
have to fill in, and I'm gonna come up with
the most difficultest.
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
The most difficultest, the.
Speaker 10 (01:20:15):
Most difficultest player ever. I was looking at me.
Speaker 5 (01:20:18):
No, I just cannot believe I I over I jumped,
and then I said.
Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
It happens, It happened, happens all the time, and it
happens all the time, ten colors.
Speaker 5 (01:20:28):
Similar thing, you know's what happens when the Red Sox
are wearing yellow on TV.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
Listen, don't even get me started. I knew I got
you going.
Speaker 13 (01:20:35):
So I almost said Jimmy Graham because he rode across
the Arctic Ocean earlier this week. Yeah, and that was
gonna be one of my clues. But when you looked
at me a little funky, I couldn't tell if you
were going to maybe go look it up, So then
I couldn't use that as a clue.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
If you had said that is the first glow, wouldn't
have got it. But I think I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
I wonder what clue you could have started with for
Jimmy or Graham that I wouldn't have immediately got.
Speaker 13 (01:20:57):
That would have been the only clue. I feel like
if I would have said, like he played basketball.
Speaker 5 (01:21:01):
Here when Martin got who which quarterbacks?
Speaker 4 (01:21:04):
Grandpa's of Marlborough man, That's what I knew this guy
was special.
Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
Sam Sam Darnold. The Marble Man's name is like Dick Hamdler.
Look it up.
Speaker 1 (01:21:12):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:21:15):
All right, Alex.
Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
You know sometimes you can make these like on Super
Bowl Sunday, for example. Yeah, you'll be like, who, what
will be a higher number running back rushing yards or
points scored in the Celtics Hornets game.
Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
Yeah, you know you do those kind of cross sports bets,
kind of fun bets. It's not normally doing on a
regular basis. So if you listen to Fox Sports Radio,
you're well familiar with Steve Hartman. I made one of
these type of bets with Steve Hartman, and I don't
think I have a single chance to win it. I
bet talks me that Aaron Judge, the total number of
Aaron Judge home runs would be fewer than wins by
(01:21:55):
the Colorado Rockies, who loft today eighteen to nothing, to
the Baltimore Orioles, who if you haven't been paying attention, stink.
Speaker 4 (01:22:03):
Wow, even mis one Tenant at Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
Yeah, even though I shake a hand.
Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
But Aaron Judge right now is hitting the injured list
with thirty seven home runs on the year. The Rockies
have twenty seven home runs of twenty seven wins on
the year, and Aaron Judge again on the injured list elbowstrain.
Dodgs the UCL think that updates my odds to no
chance in hell to win this bet. To definitely not
going to win this bet.
Speaker 5 (01:22:28):
What's a live How much plus money am I getting it?
By back you on a live bet here?
Speaker 2 (01:22:33):
You know what, we have better things to do with
money than that, Like there are people in the world
who need that donation better than your fan duel or
DraftKings this bet all right, Now, let's go back to
the NFL, because the Rocky stink eighteen and nothing against
the Orioles.
Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
It's the Oils, especially if the trade deadline's coming up.
You think there's ever a time, there's ever a time
to ball out, Oh my gosh, it'd be like Ryan McMahon,
freeb free. It's evy to New York.
Speaker 5 (01:23:03):
Who feels worse today Ryan McMahon going over in his Yankees'
debut or losing eighteen nothing as former team.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
Losing eighteen nothing is former teammates because you know what
it's like, Shawshank.
Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
The sun shined on Ryan.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
McMahon today, even though he went, oh for whatever, the
sun shined on him today after he crawled through that
river of bleep. All right, Ben Jonson and Calebi, He's
talk about a river of bleep. Apparently, Ota are a
mini camp and what were they doing in Ota is
in Chicago? You have to wonder because mini camp sounds
like it has been a disaster.
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
Lokey. They interceptions here and there and everywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
Ben Johnson pulling the offense off the field on day
one to practice.
Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
My question at the moment was what happens day two?
If they're not better? What do you do? All right,
So they.
Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
Have all of this, and then Caleb Williams is getting
a lot, a lot of criticism thus far because all
these clips that we're seeing coming out of training don't
look great. This guy was generational just a few weeks ago,
and I wonder which generation now?
Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
It's all that.
Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
Sorry, but anyway, Ben Johnson talked about his quarterback and
the situation at training camp this week.
Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
Let's hear what old Benny boy had to say.
Speaker 14 (01:24:20):
And so now we're asking him to be a little
bit more structured in terms of the play calls. Sometimes
there's multiple calls, you know, there's shifts, there's motions. There's
a lot more going on mentally than probably there's ever
been for him. And so at some point this thing
will start slowing down and he's going to be able
to catch up and his physical ability will take over
from there. But right now, because mentally it's it is
(01:24:43):
what it is, he's playing a little bit slower than
what he's capable of.
Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
What were your thoughts here in that?
Speaker 5 (01:24:50):
My goodness, honestly, Martin, that is I was going to
write down a couple of hot button words there. That
is not encouraging at least right now today, I actually
kind of feel a little differently. Let's talk to me.
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
I don't love a lot of what Ben Johnson does
at the podium.
Speaker 3 (01:25:12):
I think that got a long way to go. He's
in oc on the podium.
Speaker 2 (01:25:15):
It feels like it the I've been playing with this
idea of doing like for first year head coaches, the
gase effect. Remember Adam Gasee and his introductory press conference
where like I remember vividly like he was his eyes
were flitting everywhere to the point they had like patacos
and like as an old school photoshop type of thing.
(01:25:37):
Ben Johnson rates kind of high on the gase effect
for me just listening to him talk. But I think
for Caleb Williams to reach his ultimate potential, this has
to happen. What he was talking about has to happen.
I do think I think got it where you are
(01:25:57):
overloading almost mentally right, because so much of what he
did in undergrad was uh oh, my left tackle just
fell over. My right tackle looked like he's, you know,
blocking with the wrong hands, like out of hands for feet.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
Yeah, I'm figuring it out.
Speaker 5 (01:26:16):
I'm running around, remember, Yeah, the Mahomes calms when he
was coming out of the USC was so good at improvising.
But if you think about Ben Johnson's bio rhythms as
an OC's got a non athlete, no offense, no knock
to JG sixteen, but the guy runs probably the same
forty as we do in our prime. What did Jared
Goff do all the time? Get the ball out quickly,
(01:26:39):
make fundamental decisions, go through his progressions like a prototypical
quarterback who's not really that prototypical these days and more
of a Swiss army knife. Caleb Williams, I think we
have an interesting developing situation here in my humble opinion, Martin,
throwing it back to you, is it more growing pains
out the gate than it is success because it's teams,
(01:27:00):
like coaching quarterback have a long way to go.
Speaker 3 (01:27:02):
I would say.
Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
I was concerned about Kayleb Williams coming out. I also
would have taken him with the first overall pick, but
I was concerned about Kayla Williams coming out because when
you just watched USC, I did not see a very
good team. I saw a guy who was doing a
lot of lifting, and I saw a guy who was
really frustrated outwardly about that lifting, saying, you know, after
(01:27:25):
the press conference, I just want to go home and
be with my dog, you know, crying in the stands.
You know what I'm saying things like that, like you
have to really ingratiate yourself to your teammates, especially as
a first round pick, especially as.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
A number one overall pick.
Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
Your teammates got to be like, Okay, this guy's the soldier,
this guy's iny with us. I think he handled us
it perfectly at every step of the way since becoming
a Chicago Bear, I agree every he had a million
opportunities to throw people under the bus. He had a
million opportunities to say this is terrible, it is stupid,
(01:27:59):
I don't want to be here, And even in the
Wickersham when when the quotes came out about before he
was drafted in a Wickersham book. You can make the
argument you should never said aside before being drafted. But
he's a gen z. They do this stuff. They're gonna
talk on camera. That's what they do, you know what
I'm saying. So it's like, but to me with this,
(01:28:19):
I like what Caleb Williams says every step of the way.
But I did think it's about the fundamentals with him.
It's about the lay up throws with him because he's
That's the one thing we did not see through undergrad
and that's the thing that But Ben Johnson is elite
at scheming up guys in that offense like he Allmne Ross,
(01:28:41):
Saint Brown great player, Jared Goff, great player. Those two
guys are not gonna be at the same level we
saw with golf when he had mcveigh's offensive coordinator and
head coach. They're not at the same level unless they're
running that type of offense.
Speaker 5 (01:28:55):
How much do you think first time head coach, second
year orderback should there be a little bit of give
and take with their styles. Let's call Ben Johnson very
buttoned up with his overall scheme right. He wants it run.
I don't call him a perfectionist.
Speaker 4 (01:29:14):
I gotta go into the.
Speaker 3 (01:29:15):
Weeds and look.
Speaker 5 (01:29:15):
But he seems with that kind of quote like he's
closer to you know, military esque than he is player friendly.
I'm gonna let you be the NBA point guard you are,
and we're gonna figure out how to play around you.
Speaker 3 (01:29:29):
That's exactly how does it seems like.
Speaker 5 (01:29:32):
But but Caleb has to what you were saying when
you're describing Hi, which was great, the ability to create
magic and the ability to improvise. And I don't think
that's that's a throwback Seignefel a lie. You could kill
independent Jerry completely because that's part of what makes him special.
Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
And so it's a mix of that, I think.
Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
And I think that's where first year head coach concerns
me if Ben Johnson had coached like a ton of
different quarterbacks or like Cauz, I mean Williams. And this
is no disrespect to Jared Golf, who I had in
the MVP conversation last year to US tour up until
like maybe week fourteen or fifteen, who I thought, I
definitely think you can win.
Speaker 3 (01:30:11):
A Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
I'll just put it to you like this, you count
the number of quarterbacks who have been to multiple conference
championship games in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:30:17):
Right now, you'll run out of fingers. I mean you'll
run out of names real quick.
Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
Before you run out a finger on the top ahead Mahomes,
Dalen Hurts, Jared Golf, and probably one of the I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
Forgetting Alan Burrow. We'd have to sit there.
Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
Yeah, well, I think Allen's been multiple multiple I think
Alan's been in two of Lamar multiple one uh and
Burrow definitely only one. Right, So that's where you're not
and that's the list. Yeh right. So Jared Golf is
right there. I think he can win at a high
level in this league. But Caleb Williams has more athleticism
in his pinky toe than Jared Goff does and his
(01:30:51):
entire being. Right, So there's way more of I'm gonna
bail out and save myself here or I'm gonna bail
And this is not to me a selfish move by
Caleb Williams because for the longest time, this is how
I've had to win, see what I'm saying. Like it's
like when people talk about Alan Iverson's like, oh, is
(01:31:11):
he does he shoot too much? I was like, no, no, no,
He's looking at his team and says, I have to
shoot this many times to win the game. Now, that
sometimes manifests in bad shot taking, like a manifested in
bad sacks taken by Caleb Williams. But what the offense
now is gonna be. It's first down. We need positive arch,
second out, we need positive art now if it's starting fifteen,
(01:31:33):
go be superman. Take the kpe out your back pocket
and put it on. But it's gonna be in your
back pocket. And that to me is a point of
natural friction that could rub its head.
Speaker 5 (01:31:43):
Which side do you think exposes itself first, Caleb not
playing in more of a buttoned up offensive scheme or
Ben Johnson being so wound tight to a vision that
clearly because Kauf and Caleb are not even in the
same to your point strap stylistically, they're just completely different quarterbacks.
(01:32:06):
That quote that out the top of the segment, Benny said,
do we dare say a little bit of an eg Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:32:14):
Oh, I think I absolutely.
Speaker 5 (01:32:15):
One day it'll slow down for him. Right now, it's
a little fast. That's not a way to build your
franchise quarterback up.
Speaker 3 (01:32:23):
Again, like when you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:32:25):
You know, the relationship between head coach and quarterback is
very much like the relationship that you have with your
significant other, because it's very much that we got to
figure out the best way to make this work for everybody,
which is what Martin given take.
Speaker 4 (01:32:38):
I mean, you're close in the marriage and I am
given take right.
Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
And that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:32:41):
It's like, I don't know how much Ben Johnson's gonna
be willing to give here. And I think that especially
when you get these guys who the scheme, the scheme,
the scheme are the reason why we're winning, right, I
think that some of these guys have to kind of
eat their medicine a little bit when they get to
the big when they're I want to know what happens
(01:33:04):
when Ben Johnson loses a game in week six or.
Speaker 3 (01:33:09):
Seven or eight.
Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
Yeah, the Bears are about five hundred or so, and
he loses a game because in a critical fourth quarter moment,
he threw a pass to a left tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:33:20):
And how does Ben choose to answer on the podium,
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:33:26):
Yeah, because we've seen Dan Campbell eat those swords, right,
I have not seen Ben Johnson at the answer for
the highest level. For a lot of the play calls,
we sit there and be like, that was fun, But
it's fun because it works.
Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
And to get on my inspector Martin over here, two
of the three main coaches in Detroit last year played
with pads in this league. We can make a case
that your boy here with one good shoulder might bench
more than Ben Johnson.
Speaker 3 (01:33:58):
Right now, the.
Speaker 5 (01:33:59):
Guys, there's something to be said about coming in and
being now demanding and he didn't play the sport I
mean this is this is fascinating to your angle of
what happens week six.
Speaker 3 (01:34:12):
If they catch a huge ob.
Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
You know what I'm saying, Like when things are relatively early,
first quarter, first half of the season, everybody's in it,
nobody's out of it, and it's like, I just want
to see how he responds, because to me, the head
coach of the team in that moment can only say
one thing.
Speaker 3 (01:34:31):
I made a mistake. I was wrong. Even if you
weren't wrong.
Speaker 5 (01:34:36):
That's what you should do if you weren't wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:34:39):
Yep. But we saw.
Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
Matt Eberflus several times being like, oh, I like the
look we had there. No, there's no way you could
have liked the look we had there. There was a game,
the game against the Lions. I want to think with
Thanksgiving Day, Lomas Brown on the Lions broadcast radio broadcast
as Caleb Williams, and they had it was third and
something then going in the fourth down clock is ticking
(01:35:02):
infield goal range. One possessing game, and it just ticks
and ticks and ticks and ticks, and they don't call
the time out they have in their back pocket. Lomas
Brown says, matt Eberflus just got himself.
Speaker 3 (01:35:12):
Fired in that moment.
Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
Then ebra Flues goes to the pro press conference, and
you know what, he was probably going already. He was
probably going already. And I remember at the time saying, Mattybraflus.
The only explanation he made a promise to his wife,
I miss Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
I'll be home by Christmas. I promise you that. And
he goes and says, I like the look we had.
We wanted to rewrack the play. No, you messed up.
You messed up. Stop.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
And so that's what Ben Johnson is gonna have to
own here. And we'll see if that happens.
Speaker 5 (01:35:40):
Who and who comes in with more cachet in this
locker room. Obviously Ben Johnson decorated wor I'm rereading this.
I'm I'm really reading this. Highest rookie passer rating, Bear quarterback,
most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback, most total yards
by a rookie quarterback, Oh, Bears wreck or it's Oh,
by the way, three hundred and fifty three consecutive pass
(01:36:02):
attempts without an interception, fourth longest streak in NFL history.
You cannot come in and neg this guy in training camp.
You gotta figure out how to have a great Alcaaz
Center tennis rally of styles, or this is gonna be
six and eleven and someone ain't staying.
Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
Coming up next.
Speaker 2 (01:36:22):
You may have thought that this was the biggest season
in Bears history, and I can understand why you'd think that.
Speaker 3 (01:36:28):
It's not.
Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
There's one team in the NFL that has more at
stake in this upcoming season than any other team has
ever had. Like I'll tell you right now, this might
be it for this team right now, and it might
never be back. It might never be back to that
in just a moment, because we are coming back. Martin

I'm at Martin Wise with here at Alex Underscore Underscore
Monico set a short circuit there. We'll get to your
tweets throughout the show. Feel free to shoot one to
us if you'd like. And I'm gonna talk about a
tweet I sent in about seven minutes. Is the reason
why I spend less time online with you jack holes
(01:38:27):
than most of.
Speaker 3 (01:38:27):
The rest of you.
Speaker 2 (01:38:29):
I'm seriously, this is why I spend less time online.
I see some of these conversations happening, and it's like, listen,
let's keep the conspiracy theories in politics, my goodness, leave
out sports anyway. I Alex Monico, think one thing is
true about a team in the industry North this is
Detroit Lions. This is the most important offseason in Detroit
(01:38:52):
Lions history. Team if they've won a championship in nineteen
fifty seven. That long they've been playing before then. But
this the most important offseason in Detroit Lions history.
Speaker 3 (01:39:01):
You know why?
Speaker 2 (01:39:01):
Why all the success that we have seen of the
Lions in the last three years, nine and eight, and
then they missed the playoffs that year, but knock Darreon
Rodgers out of Lambeau. Then back to back and winning
the North back to back playoff berths obviously, and then
losing in the second round both times. R'm sorry, losing
in a championship game the first time, second round the
(01:39:22):
last time.
Speaker 3 (01:39:22):
So taking quote unquote a step back if.
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
You look at it like that, losing both coordinators lose
and Ben Johnson to go goes to Bears, Aaron Glenn
to go coach.
Speaker 4 (01:39:34):
The Jets brought Tanner with him.
Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
Tanner Egstrand, who was not the guy who starred in
Baby Driver. He is the passing He was the passing
game coordinator for the Lions and then moving on to
be the offensive coordinator. Enough for the Jets. Ben Johnson
took some of his Louis with him to borrow a
phrase from Deon Sanders, the Lions being able to reload
(01:40:00):
at the coordinator position is what's going to demonstrate.
Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
To us as a media and us as fans and
people cover the.
Speaker 2 (01:40:08):
NFL whether this team was a good trend, like a
good blip or a good trend, because right.
Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
Now I thought, I feel like they're a good trend.
Speaker 2 (01:40:21):
But I'll say this about it is one of the
biggest most important jobs for head coaches in my opinion,
is hiring and firing coordinators.
Speaker 3 (01:40:29):
That's one of the things I think Kyle Shanahan has shown.
Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
Year in year out, if you hire my guy to
go be your head coach, I will make an adequate
replacement higher.
Speaker 3 (01:40:40):
Dan Campbell. It's your time to do just that.
Speaker 5 (01:40:44):
It's a great thought to of what a unique Dan
Campbell's spot he's in because they didn't win the Super
Bowl and ls course like the forty, it just doesn't
have that doesn't happen very often.
Speaker 4 (01:40:57):
This is so fascinating because.
Speaker 5 (01:41:00):
Is to throwing it to you, do you feel Dan
Campbell is He's without question a leader of men, and
he's a phenomenal orator. My my thing is in turnover
at both coordinators. Is he able to with his leadership
style and who he is as a coach be able
to speak to both sides of the football on a
(01:41:22):
quick offseason where they didn't meet their goal.
Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
I do think so, I think, but also it makes
me wonder. Okay, So Dan Campbell and the Lions have
been all about culture since he got there, rebuilding the culture,
and good on you for doing so, MotorCity, Dan Campbell,
because that culture was in an absolute toilet porta potty, right,
(01:41:45):
So that was number one what we gotta do.
Speaker 3 (01:41:47):
We gotta address that.
Speaker 2 (01:41:48):
You honestly, you see some of that with the Raiders
right now and Pete Carroll addressing some of the quote
unquote culture things. Christian Wilkins Audi Jos. You're supposed to
play a big role in this team. You don't want
to rehab the way we're doing things our way, right,
the lines were things their way.
Speaker 3 (01:42:02):
But when you run into that, you sometimes run into
some of the.
Speaker 2 (01:42:07):
Same problems that to forget the crossport reference, but like
the Los Angeles Lakers had the best case scenario, the
best hire is not necessarily the guy that you've were
right there, who was the assistant, right, Like, if you're
not opening these searches up and you're not scanning the
entirety of the league. Yeah, to get the best higher,
(01:42:27):
are you doing it in the best way like Michigan
football For the longest time was like we want Michigan men.
Well maybe, just maybe the best coach is not somebody
who graduated from Michigan.
Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
And I got a couple thoughts for you here to
talk really this out because I'm I love to take
this is.
Speaker 3 (01:42:43):
This is probably the biggest Lions off season.
Speaker 5 (01:42:46):
So you don't win, You blow a home game to
a rookie and let everybody down. So now you have
expectations coming into next year. Vegas is down on you.
Vegas hasn't juiced to un ten and a half wins. Okay,
so Vegas is.
Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
Down on you.
Speaker 5 (01:43:03):
You lose numerous coaches, two coordinators, plus your pass game coordinator,
and you're in, according to Vegas, if not the first
the one a at odds of the best division in football.
Speaker 2 (01:43:19):
Oh, by the way, Cherry on top first play schedule. Yeah,
it's gonna be rough for Detroit. That's why I was saying, like,
this is a big season for them. That ten and
a half number, I think that they need to If
they're not, I think they need to go over that.
Speaker 3 (01:43:32):
Obviously.
Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
I think that I feel good about twelve and five
for this Lion's team. I feel good about twelve wins,
that Howard breaks out in the division. I'm not sure,
but you know what I'm saying. I actually think that
the Lions will still win this division. But it's more
I am down on the Packers and the Vikings more
than anything. I think those two teams are take step
(01:43:55):
back then I think the Lions will cause but it
is a huge bet on organizational structure. I just hope
that Dan Campbell has built the organizational structure to where
promoting from within is the best move.
Speaker 5 (01:44:08):
Well, you think about Sirianni dealing with turnover with coordinators
a couple of years back with Gannon Steich, and you
think about, as you allude to Shanahan, where are we
if we were doing power rankings with Dan Campbell as
a coach coming in this year without his coordinators.
Speaker 3 (01:44:24):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:44:25):
We will have a much more definitive answer to that
in just a moment. And in just a moment, I
will tell you why I spend less and less time
on the internet with you jack holes every single day,
because I saw a conversation going on this Steve. It
was so insulting that I was like, we really should,
like there should be laws over who should say be
(01:44:47):
able to say things out loud.
Speaker 12 (01:44:48):
Wait a minute, you're saying there was an insulting conversation
on the internet.
Speaker 3 (01:44:51):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:44:52):
Wow, Now, now update us on everything else going on
in sports, so I could get everybody straight on this one.
Speaker 12 (01:44:56):
I think we had the lead here. By the way,
I did look up. The Detroit Lions apparently moved to
Detroit nineteen thirty four. That's how long they've been playing,
And that was the year they started playing a game
on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (01:45:08):
By the way, Yes, I think from Portsmouth.
Speaker 2 (01:45:12):
Yes, here you go. Wow, see that your fault. I
would have got. I'm a book back here. I got
a lot.
Speaker 12 (01:45:17):
The Portsmouth Spartans became the Detroit Lions, and in year
two they won the NFL title.
Speaker 3 (01:45:24):
Back in the nineteen thirties, and they said, wait till
next year, We'll be right back.
Speaker 12 (01:45:30):
Actually in the nineteen fifties they won the title nineteen
fifty two, fifty three, fifty seven. But these last two
years of Lions football have been the best back to
back seasons of Lions football since the nineteen fifties, and
the preseason schedule starts soon with the Lions against the
Chargers in the Hall of Fame game. Thursday is July

it in a microphone BECAUSE i don't want to sound pretentious,
here BUT.
Speaker 3 (01:49:59):
I get paid to, this do you know What i'm?
Speaker 2 (01:50:01):
Saying and every so Often i'm, like you, Know, martin
the world's really. Changing content creation is a thing that
now is a, real like it's an actual people probably
major in that stuff in college now or ten years.
Ago was just, LIKE i just want to host my
show and do my, thing and So i'll go on
(01:50:22):
the internet sometimes, thinking, MAN i should really like WHAT
i should create some. Content THEN i look at what's
out there AND i see people On Elon Musk's twitter
talking About Cam newton And Jalen hurts and intimating that
at any point In jalen hurts his career that he
(01:50:43):
was better Than Cam newton Because Cam newton said he's
not a top ten.
Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Quarterback in THE. Nfl AND i was just, like wait a, Minute,
okay whether or not you.
Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
Think Jalen hurts is top ten or not a Conversation
i'm willing to. Have, OH i want to have, it
but JUST i just want to make this. Clear let's
make it Sat pat, Here, Yeah Cam newton reached peaks
that almost every SINGLE nfl player would wish they could, reach,
fact Including Jalen. Hurts and if you want to talk
(01:51:12):
to me About Cam newton not diving on a fumble
in The Super bowl in which he took a team
that was like a nine win team at best all
the way To Super, BOWL i will raise you that
game That Jalen.
Speaker 3 (01:51:25):
Hurts everybody says he played his.
Speaker 2 (01:51:27):
Best game ever in The Super, bowl Best Super bowl,
performers and are losing everybody. Quarterback they lost that game in.
Overtime Jalen hurts had a fumble. SIX i don't want
to hear.
Speaker 3 (01:51:37):
It oh tell, TWICE i don't want to hear. It one.
Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
Bit Cam newton, today, yesterday and before, that at his
peak is a player That Jalen hurts could wish to.
Be All, right thank, YOU i will step down off my. Soapbox,
NO i like.
Speaker 16 (01:51:56):
IT I i think we're in an interesting spot here
because The eagles roster was so so unique.
Speaker 5 (01:52:08):
And so dial trenches on bull. Soccer it's almost reverse
it and go forget top. Ten how many quarterbacks can
we plug into That philly front?
Speaker 4 (01:52:19):
Center and can they run the table?
Speaker 2 (01:52:21):
Now, see here's the thing That Cam NEWTON i think
actually did a dress in his initial, thing AND i
get it and answer your, QUESTION i get.
Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
It he wears funny.
Speaker 2 (01:52:32):
Hats he dresses like like he's in allis In, wonderland
so it's easy to poke fun Of.
Speaker 3 (01:52:36):
CAM i Love.
Speaker 2 (01:52:37):
Cam, okay but that's the point THAT i think he
touched on that people just blew over because you know
he's he's dressed like the mad hatter you end up,
with Like jalen hurts to me quit the sense like
the things that you measure off the.
Speaker 3 (01:52:53):
Field you tell me another team that could win The
Super bowl with their.
Speaker 2 (01:52:57):
Head coach consiftently turning around to the fans and making
fun of them on a regular. Basis you tell me
a team that can win A Super, bowl who's number
one wide, receiver probably best offensive, player second best offensive
players reading a self help book on the. Sidelines all,
right he's literally reading how to like better mind habits
(01:53:20):
as he's not getting the. Ball, Okay, Yeah jalen hurts
to be able to maneuver all. That you show me
a quarterback that is willing and, LIKE i won't say
he's excited to do, it but like never once complains
about the concept of The toush.
Speaker 5 (01:53:37):
Push it is so hard to win In. Philly let
alone be the quarterback for The, Eagles and we're old
enough to see how many men have. Tried so you
have to sit here and, go all, right what he
did this year is very. Special BUT i also am
with you on the cam. Side you can plug and
play a lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:53:56):
Guys AND i think when you're looking at this as
a simple thought, Exercise borrow turned from war from, Baseball
war wins above, replacement where it's basically supposed to just
isolate guys and put them like this third basement is
the best third basement in baseball because he's this much
better than the average third, baseman right. RIGHT i think
(01:54:19):
That Jalen hurts is war would be less Than Justin
herbert Or Lamar jackson Or Josh, Allen Joe burrow And Patrick,
Mahomes AND i think we could have a lot of
conversations over who else it would.
Speaker 4 (01:54:32):
Be but.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
That, offense they are doing exactly what it does. Right
and he answers every question right both postgame and then,
inside like he's the one Telling sirianni just shut, up you,
know who doesn't have a hold me back Guy Jalen
hurts Because Nick sirianni, Does, Yes salen, LIKE i just
(01:54:55):
like he's the adult, there AND i think that that's
the credit that just deserves to give to. HIM i
don't know if that team is going back to another
Super bowl after they lose if he's not the. Quarterback
BUT i also don't think he's one of the seven
eight best quarterbacks THE.
Speaker 3 (01:55:10):
Nfl, yeah because let me ask you.
Speaker 5 (01:55:11):
This if we're doing a fantasy football, draft going back
and forth right, now we get to tend Does Jalen
hurts enter our?
Speaker 3 (01:55:17):
Draft, well maybe fantasy is a little bit. Different oh,
yeah let's.
Speaker 4 (01:55:20):
Go let's call it like we're. FRANCHISES i got.
Speaker 3 (01:55:23):
YOU i know what you're talking.
Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
About when you're doing The madden. Build then you go
a random draft. Order Jalen hurts is not my number, one, two, three,
four or five.
Speaker 3 (01:55:32):
Quarterback i'm. Picking i'm just.
Speaker 4 (01:55:33):
Not it's also worth saying cam to mention. It but
he was a journeyman in.
Speaker 3 (01:55:37):
College he was slept, on passed on in.
Speaker 2 (01:55:40):
College Nick, saban we're all, set gotta go To, oklahoma et,
cetera et.
Speaker 4 (01:55:46):
Cetera it's part of what built him though to be this.
Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
Stoic BUT i just say, this IF i see one
more person online saying That Jalen hurts is better Than Cam,
newton it's just gonna make me tweak that much. Less
Like i'm not going to do anything out of my you,
know but it's just it's just it just like what's YouTube?
Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
Exist people just go watch? It did it bother?
Speaker 4 (01:56:09):
You AND i correct me If i'm?
Speaker 5 (01:56:11):
Wrong was he fully asked keep THE mvp to turn
it in for A lombard and he, Said i'm keeping THE.
Speaker 4 (01:56:17):
Mvp was that part of the aftermath of?
Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
This it may have, been But Cam, newton but would
you just look at the rosters was so freaking good
at every step of the way until his body betrayed
him because of the shots that he. Took and that's
just ONE i. Know i'm two minutes over, break damn.
It the world needs to know the world needs to
(01:56:40):
know he's a charge are look and speaking of, things
the world needs to. Know, nobody AND i mean literally
nobody needed this news out Of Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (01:56:48):
Camp we'll get to that in just a.

Speaker 3 (01:57:18):
Question mid to late? Twenties mid to late.
Speaker 2 (01:57:22):
Twenties, okay same story for me in terms of a
roommate in Southern. California it's expensive out.
Speaker 5 (01:57:27):
HERE i will, say living In, MANHATTAN i wonder if
you get an over thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:57:31):
Bus, oh you definitely get the over thirty buffer if
you live In New. York if you live In New, York, CHICAGO,
la Or, Miami and as long as you are not
acting like you don't have a, roommate you're good to. Go,
now what if you're In, Latrobe, Pennsylvania because that is
a PLACE i would Think i'd be able to afford
a one bedroom just off of you, know just regular
(01:57:52):
that's where The steelers hole training. Camp Aaron rodgers THOUGHT
dk metcaff thought he was gonna have a single bed.
Speaker 3 (01:58:00):
Room he does. Not this is WHAT dk had to
say about his new. Roommate, NO i.
Speaker 2 (01:58:05):
Ain't, no he knocked on my door AND i thought
he was the front, door and he was actually my
bathroom door because he share a.
Speaker 3 (01:58:09):
Bathroom like he.
Speaker 14 (01:58:11):
Was, like oh, MAN i was hoping a FEW i was,
LIKE i did not THINK i was gonna have a.
Speaker 2 (01:58:14):
Roommate but but, yeah it was a good experience just
to see his face and know that we, could you,
know continue conversations outside, then so that's. Positive he was
happy to know that he was sharing a bathroom With Aaron.
Rodgers this is also the setup THAT i had WHEN
i was in. COLLEGE i shared my bathroom with The
korean kid whose name Was chan and my First bates
(01:58:35):
one Baby North.
Speaker 3 (01:58:37):
Campus, uh but we didn't have this. Problem, APPARENTLY.
Speaker 2 (01:58:43):
Dk Told Yahoo sports that the toilet is super, loud
so at, night if you gotta urine, Eight i'll, edit
don't flush the. Toilet bree's face is. DISGUSTED i want
you to. Know i'm also. Disgusted this is not like
a guy. Thing this is like a football guy. Thing
and this is one of those that make me Know
i'm not a football. Guy it reminds me though of
(01:59:05):
the phrase if it's, yellow let it, mellow WHICH i
think if you're a multi, millionaire yeah you.
Speaker 3 (01:59:10):
Should we should be doing something differently. Here like we
said nine to thirty day. NIGHT dk had to Text,
rogers are you asleep? Yet all? Right, No rogers, Said i'm.
Awake he, said all, Right i'm about to flush the.
Speaker 2 (01:59:23):
Toilet and even bonding right, there, babes is that team?
Speaker 5 (01:59:27):
Bond that IS qb ONE wr one absolute?
Speaker 4 (01:59:33):
Bonding does this suck for multi?
Speaker 3 (01:59:36):
Millionaires?
Speaker 4 (01:59:37):
Yes Well DK's got a one of.
Speaker 5 (01:59:38):
One we, know diet maybe get through some gummy bears
there and that's in the. Bathroom now we're now we're
talking a little. AMBIANCE i honestly thought the same.
Speaker 2 (01:59:47):
Thing Dk MECK i famously known for eating like bags
and bags on bags of candy and maintaining a six,
pack which so how many calories you burn playing football
and youth is wasted on the.
Speaker 3 (01:59:56):
Young but.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
That that bathroom's got, IT i mean it's got a.
Speaker 5 (02:00:03):
Stink so if we were in the same scenario we,
have would we agree to keep, it keep it, rocking
keep it keep abide by rule number.
Speaker 3 (02:00:13):
One, man flush the, toilet bro flush the, toilet wake me? Up, yeah.
Speaker 11 (02:00:20):
The.
Speaker 2 (02:00:21):
Toilet here's the, thing, like maybe this is just too
much time IN la but like sirens go, past like
car accidents, happened people scram.
Speaker 3 (02:00:28):
Up you just hear all types of. Stuff it's kind
of had to be really aggressive to wake me up
on my.
Speaker 10 (02:00:33):
SLEEP i was gonna, say are you guys like light
sleepers or heavy? Sleepers Because i'm kind of a light.
Speaker 4 (02:00:37):
Sleeper ironically had this scenario last.
Speaker 5 (02:00:40):
NIGHT i thought about it BECAUSE i had to get
up in the middle of the night and right next
to the room with my. Girlfriend i'm, like she's in
town jet. Lag MAYBE i Should MAYBE i SHOULD dk Metcalf.
Speaker 3 (02:00:50):
Rogers this which which way'd you? GO i went With.
BREEZEWAY i. FLUSHED i wasn't happy about. IT i think
it woke me.
Speaker 10 (02:00:59):
Up didn't wake her, up didn't wake her, Up, no, exactly.
Speaker 3 (02:01:02):
They woke me up because here's the.
Speaker 2 (02:01:04):
Thing, Imagine, okay you don't flush to help that person, sleep.
Speaker 10 (02:01:09):
And they wake up and then that person wakes up
and goes to THE ba.
Speaker 13 (02:01:11):
Bathroom AND i would be so angry IF i woke
up to that, disgusting just like sitting there for hours.
Speaker 9 (02:01:17):
Is equally equivalent to like when a guy leaves the
toilet seat up in the middle of the night and
you just fall in to the.
Speaker 5 (02:01:24):
WATER i THINK i think the wide receiver has to
respect the quarterback wishes in this scenario a little more
than The.
Speaker 2 (02:01:32):
That's the PART i find interesting because this Was Aaron rodgers's,
idea SAID dk. Said aaron told, him if it's, yellow met,
it let it. Mellow he has a big man and
he's not used to this. Life that's a good. POINT
dk is, engaged though it's a.
Speaker 4 (02:01:47):
Normandy they're both gonna have to get used to flushing.
Speaker 3 (02:01:50):
And putting the seat.
Speaker 4 (02:01:51):
Down were getting, better all of us getting.
Speaker 3 (02:01:54):
Better probably no more bathroom talk coming. Up But Aaron
torres Or Jason martin are so lock in
