Speaker 1 (00:01):

Speaker 2 (00:04):

Speaker 2 (00:20):
First, I want to tell my co.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Host DJ, who normally sits next to me during this slot,
hope you feel better. Pal came down with the little
case hilaryngitis. Oh that makes a little tough to talk
for three hours. But you know what, we got an
adequate replacement right here, my man carry roads.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Carrie.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
How you doing today, my friend, I'm doing well.
Speaker 5 (00:36):
The only thing I'm a little upset about right now
is the introduction usually on my other should just says,
you know, eight year all pro safety. You guys just
kind of shortened me a little bit, just eight year safety.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Well, you know, I'm a little upset about it. I
think it might it might be for me. Honestly, you
did that.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
I've never been all pro anything, that's all.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
It's like, hold on, wait, I've had a job for
eight years two. All right, you know I've been working
since I graduated from Kyle Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Sorry, well, all pro, thank you? How about that? All pro?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Thank you know what is not well after pretty much
all pro perennial candidate Miche Fitzpatrick went down. That pretty
much put the nail in the Steelers for this afternoon.
And we seen one team quit already this week week fifteen,
the Los Angeles Chargers. And we'll get to that in
just a minute by the top of the next hour.
But I gotta ask you right now, did we just
(01:24):
see another one with the Pittsburgh Steelers going down thirteen
to what was it final score, thirteen to thirty, thirty
to thirteen the Indianapolis Colts. I know, over betters like myself,
thank you Mike Tomlin for taking all three of those
timeouts instead of just letting the game in to go ahead.
Let Matt Gay kick that field goal to go ahead
and push it over forty one and a half. But
(01:46):
see meaningful to some, meaningful to some, but it did
not matter the outcome of the game, which I mean
as soon as Indianapolis crossed twenty points, it's like, oh,
this thing's over. It's over, and so I just wonder, man,
is this we are looking at something we've never seen
before in NFL history, staring down the barrel of an
(02:07):
unprecedented time in the NFL because Mike Tomlin has never
came closer to finishing without a five hundred record than
he has right now. With the Bengals and the Seahawks
coming up, he could easily lose two of the next three.
I mean, did this Where are you at now with
these Steelers? Should they move on from Mike Tomlin? A
(02:30):
question that just a year ago I would have said.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
You're ridiculous to ask Martin.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
Yeah, it's one of those things where this team's been
done for a while. A lot of fluke wins that
happened throughout the season that kind of kept them afloat sure.
And so you see the record seven and four, which
could easily be four and seven at this even at
the point they were right, but now they're seven and seven,
lost three in the.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Rows of teams throughout.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
The Colts are playoff team right now, but nobody's afraid
of the Colts, right And then you lose to the Cardinals,
and you lose to who they lose to last day,
they lost to the Patriots. They lost to the Patriots.
So they're done. They're done, and I think it's catching
up to them. And now I think the season's officially
in the can. They will finish below five hundred.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
This year, this team was six and three through nine
weeks of football, headed in to go to Cleveland to
play Dorian Thompson.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Robinson killed him.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
And now when you look at them having dropped all
these games, I mean, you know Bill Cower's record when
the Steelers led by more than ten points from Ed
Bouschett covers the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Let me guess, Okay, how many years was Coward there fifth?
Is it fifteen or was it longer than that?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
I feel like it was like seventeen.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
It was close, right, he would probably be cowards record
when the Steelers led by more than ten.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
He probably was undefeated one eight, one and one.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
I knew it was one hundred and eight wins, one loss,
and one kiss of the sister tie. Now look at
where the Pittsburgh Steelers are kissing the sister You never
heard that. That's a tie?
Speaker 2 (04:06):
You never heard that before. No, cocky, I'm not on
my own of this. No, I haven't heard of it, right,
What about you, Brendan, I have heard thank you.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
It's like a tie, It's like kissing your sister. That's
what That's what I've heard that saying before.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yes, thank you.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Okay, cool though fifty just like Mike tom was over
every time in his career, finished over.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Over fifty percent, wins over five hundred.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
But right now, it's never been darker. I mean, you
got Duck Hodges tweeting just hey, after the game, after
you see uh, after you see Mitchell Trubisky get benched
for Mason Rudolph, And I'll be honest, the lesson I
remember seeing Mason Rudolph play was when Miles Gart hit
him in the head with his helmet exactly.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, they're in They're in troubled waters. For sure.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
They're not gonna they're in that sink and swim situation,
but they're gonna sink. Nobody they throw in is gonna
have a chance to throw that raft over the slave
of this team. So it's it's gonna be tough sledding.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Man.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
I hate it too, because I'm a Mike Tomlin guy.
He even back when I was coming out in college
going to the pros, he interviewed me way back then,
and he was a hot shot dB coach at the time,
and I knew he'd have a go on to have
a great career.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
But right now, and let mean, let's be honest, Yeah
he has. Yeah, he has had a great career. Yes,
And I'm not necessarily putting the nails in the coffin.
I don't misrepresent I don't want to make a seeling.
I'm putting the nails in the coffin on Mike Tomlin,
the coach. Right, but this Steelers thing, I mean, this
is the first time I feel like, legitimately you could
be like, man, they need to make some major changes,
(05:35):
whether it's sticking with Matt Canada for too long and
then as soon as he gets fired, they go and
have their first four hundred yard game in three years.
Then after you know, but then, you know, that was
kind of like the dead cat bounce, right, you know.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
You guys heard of that frame I heard, all right,
all right, just.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Making sure I got my book of idioms open right now,
all right now, So that was kind of like, you know,
the fired head coach or the fire coordinator bounce it.
And then you see, even against the new England Patriots
when they have Connor Hayward throw a pass inside the
fifteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Connor Heyward not.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
A quarterback, although you know you could argue Mitchell Trubisky quarterback,
but also Connor Hayward not a quarterback who had a
pass tips And you saw Mike Tomlin stare up into
the coordinator's box like what are you doing? And you
just have to wonder if the Rooneys will be staring
back down at the field asking Mike Tomlin, what are
you doing? And in fact, we don't like to taste
(06:31):
their ice cream anymore?
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Get out of here.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
Well, the thing about when you start making end season
changes with coordinators and stuff like that, and you're benching
players and doing all that stuff, when that comes, usually
that's out of desperation, right. They're in a desperate mode.
And when you operate from a desperate mold, things don't
go tend to go well for you. Anyway, it looks
like it's looked like the writings already on the wall.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
I'll say this, If the Pittsburgh Steelers choose that they
want to fire Mike Tomlin, come on, damn baby. The
New Orleans Saints, who could use an incredible coach like
you front. As a New Orleans Saints fan, I would
be signed up for that. But I mean, you just
see this and I don't.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
It hasn't. It obviously is.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Not as bad as what we saw with the Chargers,
But we are seeing some teams are just kind of
playing out the string. Others not so much like today.
What we saw in the Cincinnati and Minnesota game not
so much.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Do you like?
Speaker 3 (07:26):
While it was, I mean, some of those quarterbacks looked
like they were throwing left handed right. Nick Mullins through
one of the more ridiculous interceptions you'll ever see shot
I was that DJ Reader got that?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
No, it was bej Wow.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
I can't remember who caught it now, DJ Hill, I think,
But still one of the I mean, how many times
you throw an interception off your butt? That's pretty good.
But we saw these teams and Jamar Chase got hurt.
Who stepped up? Tyler Boyd T Higgins. Tie Higgins was
one of the better catches you'll see this year in
terms of catching and then extending for the end zone
to punch that thing into the for six. I'm seeing
(08:01):
none of that in Pittsburgh, seeing none of that like
the fight that they are, just the urgency to try
to turn around and win games.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
Well, their skilled players are young, right, and so if
you're not getting touches as a skilled guy when you're young,
you tend to get frustrated so you don't do the
other things.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
You can see that with Pittsburgh, right, So, I mean
you got George Pickens, that's about said.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
So a guy like that with so much talent, so
much you know, coming to this year with so much verve,
but to not be able to do that once the
game starts, once you're not getting the ball and not
getting the touches, you got to do other things. And
I think that's what make teams good, and that's when
you know that you're all locked in together.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
And they're not locked in together.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
No, it definitely seems as if there is a major,
major disconnect, although a.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Lot of it.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
I mean, their starting quarterback got went down. It's just
to me, honestly, with this is really more making me
feel like this is a testament to Mike Tomlin and
the standard that he had set year after year after year.
And I know people talk about the culture in Pittsburgh,
and you know what I think it's valid when you
have a guy who's been there for so long, right,
(09:11):
But it's just again, we're going Bill Belichick is coaching
the worst team in the AFC right now. Yeah, Mike
Tomlin is gonna finish hunder five hundred more than likely.
Is this a changing of the guard in the NFL?
Is this a time for change? Well?
Speaker 5 (09:24):
The thing is about culture, right. I think we throw
that term out very loosely.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Right.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a culture before Mike Tomlin got there.
Mike Tomlin bought his own culture. And so I think
when you step into those iconic organizations, though iconic situations,
you got to make sure you stay true to you.
And I think what Mike has done Tomlin has been
true to him. So now there's a time when true
to him doesn't work for the team anymore. You start
(09:50):
falling on deaf ears with the things you're saying because
they've heard it before.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
It's time to move on at that point, well.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
You know, and part of it, you know, you wonder
if Kenny Pickett is a franchise quarter back. My money's
on no, you know, but you know who else you're
going to take in that draft? It was not a
I mean, and again he was like the twenty second
overall pick, Like, it's not something that you're not really
expecting your twenty second overall pick to come in and
just be a top of the league. Right, That's a
(10:17):
great thing that happens if especially a quarterback. Right, It's
not like you're expecting what you would expect out of
a Bryce Young or a CJ. Stroud. But also you
can see how just the difference in dichotomy of those
two names right now and where they're you know, all summers,
you know, people talking about Bryce Young, is Bryce Young net?
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Right? And now CJ. Stroud without this now obviously down for.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Concussion, but at one point, yeah, people on television and
radio like you and I talked about is this guy
in the MVP conversation?
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (10:43):
No.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
But and the whole thing about comparing and contrasting these
young guys so early, man, is they are two totally
different situations. Frank w Reich didn't want to be in Carolina, Carolina.
You could tell that in Carolina wasn't And for Frank
Brice wasn't. Wasn't it guy. So you have these things
where you have to sometimes take players that may not
(11:04):
be ideal for your situation for your team because Bryce
Steng coming into this, coming into the draft and coming
into the league, you would look at Bryce Stong and
be like, this guy can play, He's a leader, he
has all the intangibles and all the things. So you know,
you get put in a situations where even in the
preseason people thought CJ. Strial was still gonna was gonna
be a bus in the preseason. This dude comes out
the game waned and sets that up right away. So
(11:26):
just give it time. I don't like the comparison game,
but obviously in one year, we gotta do what we
gotta do on the radio and in the media and
talk about it. But Bryce Stan's gonna be okay.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
See I say this. I don't like to necessarily doing
super comparisons either. Yeah, but there is one comparison that
I do with all quarterbacks. The closer you look like
me and body type and weight, the more out I
am you are. And when I found out that I
was an itch tar that's Pryce Young and weighed about
twenty pounds more, I'm out.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
I'm out, I'm out. You're done.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
He doesn't qualify because you know what, I sure didn't qualify,
so he's like, we know.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
The crazy part about that is people played on that too,
because they were showing the pictures of I think he
went when he was in training camp, a mini camp,
and you can see the size of the old line
in him, and they looked like a little brother in
the huddle exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
It was crazy.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
I look at you, a former All pro shafety, you
know what you got muscle? You know what I mean?
I don't got it? Hey, and I'm ten years out,
so you know what I mean exactly my point. I'm
ten years off of like the last athletic thing I
ever did. But that's I'll tell you what put a
pin in this. How long do you think Mike Tomlin's
(12:37):
phone would let me rephrase that, How quickly would Mike
Tomlin's phone ring with a new job offer if the
stealers moved off from him?
Speaker 5 (12:45):
It just depends on what the situation is. I don't
think every team's gonna call, but I think a team
that has veterans, a team that's ready to win and
has the pieces in place but just hasn't done it,
that'll be a team. I mean, I can see a
team like the Redskins, maybe, I Commanders.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
I can see a.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
Team like the Chargers maybe, but I think we'll get
into that a little later. But yeah, I think there's
some There's a few high profile situations, but not all.
I don't think you bring Mike Tomlin in with with
a young team at the moment. I think he I
think he does relate, but I think that relatability is
kind of fading a little bit with those guys.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
I'll say this, mikey t come on down to New Orleans.
Black and yellows real close to black and gold, baby,
and you know, I believe they're not sick of Dennis Allen,
who is the worst coach in the NFL right now,
still with the job and seemingly just everybody's okay with it.
Everybody's just fine. Everybody's just, you know, a okay with
everything that's going on in New Orleans. All is well
(13:40):
over there, All is not necessarily well in Detroit. This
is pretty much put up, our shut up time for
the Lions. Like we were all feeling great about him.
You know, they got their best record since priests and segregation.
The Lions had six and two or six and seven
and two, whatever, it was yeah, and now Denver Bronco
in town. We'll take a look at that game coming

There you go, And we were just looking, we were
just talking about this game off the air, Carrie, the
(15:57):
Lions and the Broncos. Right now, as we see Jerry
Judy dreaking down into Lions territory, he's down at the thirty.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
But there is a flag on the play. We'll see
what that is.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Lions went three and out or you know, six or
seven and out on their first drive here zero to
zero two. I mean twelve forty five left in the
first quarter. But the big news is to me and
at least this is right now. Put up or shut
up time for Detroit. If they don't and it's a
defensive penalties, that big play will stand. Sean Payton's got
(16:28):
a smile on his face, but uh, why does he
look the same colors as advisor? But this Denver team
earlier this season gave up seventy points on defense, which
you know was threatened last week, threatened on Thursday to
be the high score of the year, but uh, put up,
(16:49):
gave up seventy points defensively, and pretty much since then
have bowed all the way back. One in five starts
seven and six now, and let's be honest, could have
been a eight and five had Russell Wilson made a
little bit of a better decision in the end zone
in Houston.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Meanwhile, the Lions, Uh, my good friend TK tweeted this out.
He said, we're nine and four, but it feels like
four and nine and it's because of the way they
have lost the last few games and just defense has
just been completely optional. Guys getting moved around against their
will by the Lions. The defensive front is not great,
the ability to stop the run not great. And uh,
(17:28):
if the Lions don't win this game, I mean you
gotta have real questions for a team that you thought
potentially could be a Super Bowl contender around Thanksgiving of
this year.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Yeah, they're in trouble. And I don't mean in trouble
of they're gonna make the playoffs. They're gonna they're gonna
get in and they're gonna have a chance to com.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
To Tommy DeVito pretty much the Packers. They're gonna be
fine there.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
But as far as being considered one of the top
teams in the NFC, that's definitely out the window right now.
And what we talked about off the air a little bit,
what I was telling you is, Yeah, I think Denver
is gonna win this game. And it's just and it's
not even an indictment on Detroit all the way here.
I just think Denver has the momentum. I think they're
believing in what they're doing right now. And as Russell
(18:11):
Wilson gets sacked in from of the ball and big
Boys might be a big.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Boy touchdown another I think that's Isaiah.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Not gonna make it.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
Hey, Hey, get that man, AND's some oxygen. As soon
as I'm talking about, Denver is gonna win the game.
And they drive down the field, getting positioned to at
least get three. Russell Wilson turns it over, and so
now Detroit's cooking in on Denver side of the field.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Right now, we'll see because the problem has not been
I mean no, don't get me wrong. Problem has been
Detroit's defense, as I just outlines, as you saw secondary
Blitch come and force this fumble on Russell Wilson and
Isaiah Bugs running as far and as fast as a
big fellow cut defensive tackle.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Number. I'll just put it like this, everybody listening.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
He's wearing number ninety six, So he's not necessarily gonna
get too far out there, even in today's day and
age of wearing whatever number you want wherever you play.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
But yeah, he know, he knows where he belongs the game.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
To me, the key is this, Jared Golf has looked
really bad the last two weeks. He's turned the ball over.
He's like leading the league in turnovers over the last
three weeks, or if not, he's pretty much up there.
And this Denver Broncos defense also that's been the catalyst
for their turnaround.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
It's forcing turnovers. So we'll see. And then the other
other under underlying story here Dan Campbell.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Is you got kind of like a protege sense type
of relationship here, mentor mentee.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Dan Campbell got to start under Showing pad Uh in
New Orleans. You got to start there.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
He played for Showing Payton, he started coaching for Sean Payton,
and then when the ended up going to the Dolphins
with the interim head coach, came back to New Orleans
and now obviously in his first head coaching job in Detroit,
been one of the best teams against the spread in
the last three years.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
I know that matters to me and not too many others.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
But it started out rough Dan Campbell one and nine
and I had a loss. That was one of those
losses that you know you could get fired first year
when you go into New England and lose to Bailey's
Happy twenty nine or nothing. Yeah, and pretty much since
then has turned it around. Competed that year this year,
nine and four. But again, like I said, they started
(20:18):
out super hot. And this this, you know, after Thanksgiving
is when you really want to be playing your best
football they're not right now, as Jared Goff gets sacked
on another third down was knocks and probably out of
field goal range.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
Yeah, No, Yeah, they're they're getting I think they're getting
the a dose of being the hunted. You know, they've
been the hunty for such a long time obviously, but
now once you start having success, teams want to come
in and prove that they can beat you now. And
so I think that's what they're getting a little bit
of as well. I think there's.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Enough tape of what Detroit wants to do.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
They want to be aggressive, they want to come out
and run the ball, and you know, teams want to
come in and prove that they're the more physical team too,
and I think they're starting to catch some of that
right now.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
And some things that we just kind of repeat over
and over again, and even though they're not they may
not be true, like you know, like uh, I'm trying
to think of a great example now, like oh, like this.
You know, year in year out, you just expect the
Steelers have a good defense, right, we just talked about
the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Top of mind.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
You just expect them to have a good defense, right.
We have talked about the Lions offensive line as one
of these great units in the league for quite some time.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Now.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
They've gone down with a couple of injuries.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
And I think the most telling part of it is
if Jared Golf doesn't have everything right, everything lined up
a Z.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
He's got, you know, all.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
The ingredients and what order they go in and how
hot to turn the oven on, and it got all
his timing down. He can't he can't. He can't add lib.
If there's no carrots there, he doesn't know what to do.
He can't replace them with something else. He needs to
go to the store and get some carrots. Well, yeah,
you and the carrot cake.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
You can't. You just had Thanksgiving on the mind.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
You can't substitute that you got. You gotta go with
the carrots. You gotta stick with the cars. That's what
he's usually doing, right, If you made a great point.
If the mixtures mix really well, he's really good. But
when he's off schedule, that thing does not look good
at things. Thanks a little bit. Yeah, so yeah, yeah,
it's like a it's like a first time person trying
(22:18):
to cook on Thanksgiving, right, Yep, they have all the
ingredients they call mom, they got the recipe, but just
doesn't turn out just right. That's what Jared Goff does
when he doesn't have it right there in front of him.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Yeah, let's be honest, station having there's no time for amateurs,
neither his NFL football. But we'll turn to the true
professional this show. Steve de Sager for an update. What's
going on with my friend?
Speaker 8 (22:37):
Hello, gentlemen, And by the way, the Jared Goff talk,
there was a show on NFL Network this season that
referenced the amount of bad games he's had at outdoor stadiums,
and they say Golf of the Lions is really more
of an indoor kitty something. Just to keep in mind,
Detroit is hosting and scoreless with Denver in the opening
minutes of tonight's game, third of the three NFL games.
(22:57):
Before we get to Detroit Lions details, can I mention
the Detroit Pistons game just went final. This is the
team that's now two to twenty four this NBA season.
They lost last night by thirty two at Philadelphia. They
just lost by thirty two at Milwaukee one forty six,
one fourteen the final. The Detroit Pistons have lost twenty
(23:18):
three games in a row.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
That's impressive. Man, in its own way, it is. Actually yeah, it's.
Speaker 8 (23:24):
Like staring at it at an auto wreck. You know,
you can't take your eyes off it. When are they
playing next? I'm interested, I know, I'm locked in. You
mentioned the return big man loose on the field here
for the Lions tonight, Isaiah Bugs listed at six three
three thirty five, had a thirty three yard fumble return
on the sack the stripsack of Russell Wilson, but no
(23:45):
points off the Detroit offense. By the way, that was
the first drive of the night for Denver, and that's
how it ended with a turnover. This is, as they say,
the third game of the NFL Saturday. The Colts earlier
came back to beat Steelers thirty to thirteen. Steelers had
led thirteen nothing in the second quarter, but Gardner Minshew
(24:05):
had three touchdown passes. Bengals in overtime beat the Vikings
twenty seven to twenty four. Bengals trailed seventeen to three
after three quarters. This is the Minnesota team that last
Sunday won three to nothing at Las Vegas, coming off
of bye T Higgins tying touchdown reception in the last
minute of regulation. The Texans will start quarterback Case Keenum tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
CJ.
Speaker 8 (24:26):
Stroud is out at Tennessee, still in concussion protocol. He
missed practice all week. Seahawks quarterback Gino Smith, with the
groin entry, is questionable for Monday night against the Eagles.
He was limited in practice this week. As for college football,
it's the first day of bowl games this season. There
are six on the schedule right now. Fresno State in
the fourth leads New Mexico State in Albuquerque twenty seven
(24:48):
to ten. In La Boise State ahead of UCLA nine
to seven in the second quarter. The late game in
about forty five minutes will have Cal against Texas Tech.
Earlier wins for Apple atch in State, Ohio University and
for Jacksonville State in overtime. Next Saturday, seven bowl games.
As for college basketball, number one Arizona was beaten in
(25:10):
Indianapolis by number three rank Purdue ninety two to eighty four,
and in a top twenty matchup in Atlanta, Kentucky beat
North Carolina eighty six to eighty three. Among the many
NHL games, Boston Bruins out to a one nothing second
period lead over the Rangers and in a shootout, Minnesota
beat Vancouver two to one.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Back to you, thanks Steve Martin and Kerry coming to
your life from the Tirack dot Com studios. Let's get
our guy in here. NFL reporter for USA Today, Tyler
Dragon is on the line. Tyler, are you there, my guy?
Speaker 2 (25:43):
How you doing?
Speaker 9 (25:44):
I'm doing good?
Speaker 4 (25:45):
How you doing today?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
I'm doing better than Brandon Staley? Is okay? I'm doing
better than Brandon Staley.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
And I see you wrote this article now for USA Today,
and I'm trying to pull it up. But the gist
of it was, you can't quit the charges, Tyler. You
know Lincoln, Bill Belichick now to this team.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Out was.
Speaker 9 (26:06):
Out here in LA so I follow and I'm in
the Chargers locker room a lot as well as the
LA Rams. And you know, when I look at the
Chargers team, they need to have an injection of life
in that locker room.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
And then they need a.
Speaker 9 (26:23):
Proven winner and an experienced coach. And who else better
than a coach like Bill Belichick. Now that is if
he parts ways with the New England Patriots. But if
he does, to me, it's Bill Belichick or maybe even
Jim Harball at Michigan. Those should be the top two
(26:44):
candidates for the Chargers.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
You got to experience.
Speaker 9 (26:47):
They need an experience coach with a proven track records
of winning.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
Tyler, what's up, man, it's carry Rhodes. I just want
to ask you about kind of the piggyback on that
situation a little bit in LA with the charge What
seemed to not go right with them? Obviously we can
see the tape and we can see how they've been
playing lately. But you know, when Stateley came in, it
was it was deemed to be a really good hire,
and you know, he was this wizard on the defensive
side of the ball, and you already had the offensive
(27:15):
guys and play and had a great roster. What seemed
to be the biggest downfall with that team.
Speaker 9 (27:21):
Well, you said he was hired because that's his defensive
mind and the way that the Rams played defense when
he was a defensive coordinator there. But when he was hired,
in the three years that he was with the Chargers,
his defense was ranked near the bottom of the NFL
in major categories, points per game, yards allowed. So if
(27:44):
that is the side of the football with it, you
call it your bread and Butter and the Chargers defenses
ro routinely bad. Their execution errors, this alignment errors, This
is just a comedy there, especially in that Las Vegas
Raiders game. Not to mention blowing a twenty seven point
lead last year.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 9 (28:04):
It just all was just a combination of things which
led to his downfall. And you know, I do believe
that Brandon Staley is gonna eventually get another defensive coordinator position,
but the Chargers definitely need it, just a new voice
in that locker room, and Brandon Staley certainly needs to
(28:25):
change the scenery as well.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Tyler, one more follow up on that situation. Yes, I
mean we can all look at that and tell we
know that even from the outside looking in, but it
seemed like with that team there was no real leadership.
I was on the radio the other day and I
was asking somebody about it. But I was saying, who
is the leaders of that team? And obviously you can
look at you know, obviously Herbert and Bo send those
(28:46):
guys as possible leaders, But inside that locker room, we
know it. Sometimes it's not the big name guys that
are the leaders. Who would you call a leader of
that team? Because it doesn't seem like they have really
good leadership.
Speaker 9 (28:58):
Yeah, I look at like a Derwin James, the highest
pay safety in the NFL, A player like Khalil MaTx
both on the defensive side of the football. In an
offensive football, it's a player like Keenan Allen metroan thing
that has some success. I do think all those players
also look to Justin Herbert to kind of lead. He's
(29:22):
not really a vocal guy, leaves by examples, kind of quiet.
But the Chargers are trying to get him more comfortable
with being a more vocal leader, and I think that's
part of his maturations process as the NFL quarterback and
one of the highest paid players in the NFL. For
the Chargers to take the next step, I think Justin
(29:42):
Herbert needs to be a little bit more of a
vocal leader, not so much just lead by example as well.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Now do you linked the Bill Belichick to the Chargers
if with the Patriots has been reported by Tom Kerrn
of Boston News Papers, but another AFC long I mean
long resident, right, Mike Tomlin. This very well could be
the first time he finishes this season with a losing record.
(30:11):
We saw the output today, not Great Bengals, Seahawks, and
Ravens finish out the year for their Steelers.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
This very well could be the first year he has
a losing record.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Would you, Tyler think that Steelers will be moving on
from Tomlin at the end of the.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Year, No, not at all.
Speaker 9 (30:28):
I mean, I think people are not really looking at
this Steelers roster and being honest, their roster lacks talent
on both sides of the football. You look at their
receiving corpse. It's not that great. Dante Johnson, I mean
he's a decent number two.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Type of receiver. He's not number one.
Speaker 9 (30:49):
George Chickens, I mean he's a good they're not scrubs,
but they're not number one caliber receivers. Naj Harris he's
I mean, he's a good running but this year he's
had one of the worst seasons of his career. They've
been playing a backup quarterback. That defense, you have some
names Watt Fitzpatrick, but other than that Casey, I mean
(31:12):
Haywards as well. But they lack talent across the board
and depth. So I don't care who's coaching that team,
from Bill Belichick to Vince co Lombardi. They were not
going to beat the Hurky good because they just don't
have that the talent and the depth to compete in
the NFL every single week.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Well, let's get away from the charges a little bit
here and talk about the big umbrella of the NFL
in general and who right now are your favorites to
come out to AFC and NFC right now and represent
the Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Are you? What is? What's your place on that right now?
Speaker 6 (31:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (31:53):
I said at the beginning of the season, my Super
Bowl prediction was the Ravens, and I'm not.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Back pick at all that one.
Speaker 9 (32:02):
Lamar Jackson is the MVP candidate. I really like the
way he's playing football, especially throwing the football. He's on
track to have his best season as far as past
the yards per game and overall in a single season.
So I really like the Ravens and they're my top
team coming out of the AFC, especially when I look
(32:24):
at the Kansas City Chiefs and they still have their
offensive struggles trying to find a consistent threat at why receiver.
We all know Travis Kelsey is the number one target,
but those receivers have really struggled this season outside of
Rashi Wright. So I would say the Ravens right now.
I'm not backing off my preseason.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Super Bowl pick.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Who you got in the NFC, you guess too.
Speaker 9 (32:50):
So at the beginning I picked the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
But you don't like that one as much. You better
not like that one.
Speaker 9 (32:57):
I like the San Francisco forty nine. To me, they're
the best team in the NFL right now. I since
that three game losing streak and them coming off thereby,
they have not lost the game. They're on a five
game winning streak. They're playing excellent football on both sides,
complementary football. That defense we all know with both and
(33:18):
those boys warners, they're playing excellent. And then the offense.
Brock thirty is the MVP candidate right now, and then
you have an assortment of weapons for him to throw
the ball to. And they're the king of gap yards
after the catch.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
I love to play.
Speaker 9 (33:32):
They play football. They're my favorites in the NFC.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Tyler Dragon, you're my favorite guest in the five o'clock
hour of our show every year every week.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Man, So thank you again for joining us.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
Tyler Dragon, NFL reporter for USA Today. You can get
them on x at the Tyler Dragon not a Tyler Dragon,
the Tyler Dragon.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Tyler, thanks for doing us my friend. Thanks Tyler, of.
Speaker 9 (33:56):
Course, thanks for having me on.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Having a good weekend, all right, Coming up next, I
think we learned one big thing in the Bengals Vikings
game that we really just need to discuss because it
probably won't be true much longer as some of these
guys gonna have to move on from the team. But
I want to see what Carrie Roads thinks about what
I have to say about this Bengals Vikings game. Coming
up next, Martin and Carrey, Fox Sports Radio, Martin and Cary,
(34:20):
Martin Weis and carry Rose coming to you from the
tiraq dot com studios. Did you know that Discover wants

saw a few people on social media, Carrie talking about
how Jake Browning was a gamer, and you know, as
we watched the backup Quarterback Bowl earlier today, if Nick
Marlins and Jake Browning talking. Jake Browning's all right, Jake
(35:01):
brown is a gamer. And I think that the way
we watch football was broken, because the only thing I
thought watching that game was my goodness, the Cincinnati Bengals
have the best wide receiver room in the NFL. And
it's not close. But Jamar Chase, t Higgins, Tyler boyd oh,
Jamar Chase goes down, don't even worry about it. Just
go ahead, throw it to the t Higgins, who had
(35:22):
to me one of the one of the more impressive
plays in the league that we've seen so far, where
he caught that ball on like the five, came out
the end zone, caught it on a four, and then
reached back and did like a reverse layup into the
end zone to cross the pylon. I mean, I think
the Bengals have the best wide receiver room in the NFL.
(35:42):
And it makes all the sense in the world why
they said, you know what, We're gonna run this thing
back right now. Because we had a guy like Joe Burrow,
we should be able to win in the NAFC. And
I think that should be to me, the takeaway I
asked you during the break the hardest thing to do
as a defensive back. Yeah, I imagine in today's game,
the hardest thing to do it a defensive back is
(36:03):
line up against those guys and play man the.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Man, yeah one of them.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
Yeah, right now, the hardest thing to do is is
to do anything right in the in the NFL as
a defensive player. Right, you can't tackle low, you can't
tackle high, you can't drop hic, you can't drop hip
hip tackle, you can't horse collar, you can't target, you
can't do anything. So I think all of it's hard.
But now nowadays, the way that they spread, spread your
guys out and spread them out and throw the ball
(36:28):
all over the field. Man, it's just a tough position
to play, and you already at the disadvantage because you
don't know what they're doing most of the times, if
especially at the corner position. So I think it's just
hard to play defensive back in general. Not I don't
think you can pinpoint in one thing.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
I mean, but I just watching that game this morning
this afternoon. For you East coast folks, we're on the
West coast watching that game this morning with a cup
of coffee before I went to the gym. I'm just
like low. I mean between Joe Mixon and uh Jamar Chase, Tyler,
Boyd Thiggins. I mean, T Higgins is a number one
(37:03):
wide receiver on half the teams in the NFL, if
not more.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
They're not paying him like it. That's why somebody's going through.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
And that's why I said this is going this is
gonna be the last time we see it like this,
because the Bengals aren't gonna pay him like it.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
And I mean, if you're a.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Team like the I mean, T Higgins be the best
receiver on the Chargers right now, all right, sorry, the
Steelers right now, he'd be the best wide receiver on
a feutive. He'd be one of the better receivers on
Detroit right now, the team we're watching even nine and four,
he'll be one one A because I'm because I'm on
brown great. But who's taking the top off, who's going
deep right like that? That'd be T Higgins job. Yes,
(37:40):
I just think that when we watched this, when we're
talking about how Jake Browning, Oh, Jake Browning is a gamer.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Jake Browning is great.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
He's throwing the ball to some really talented dudes out there.
I think, for my dollar, it's the best wide receiver room.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (37:53):
So you're trying to discredit Browning right now. That's doing
right now, you know you are, That's what you're doing
right now?
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Are doing this.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
We just had Tyler dragging on earlier, just just a
few seconds ago, and he brought up how brock party
is in the MVP conversation and then in the same
breath and the same breath, talked about how the forty
nine ers are the yard after catch team.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
Well, the juxtaposition that you just did right there, you
had Browning, who you say is in the best room
wide receiver room in the league. San Francisco has the
same skilled players that are supposed to be the best
skilled players in the league. So you can bind in
both of those and you're giving a discredit to one
of them for being in that room, but the other
one you're you're you're allowing it.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
To You're allowing it to happen. But I'm trying to
do He's assign the proper credit.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
That's what I want to do. I just want to
sign the proper amount of credit.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Because we talk about like like the quarterback is the
only guy out there that matters, like the quarterback is
the only guy out there when teams win, Like Jake
Browning wasn't the one that came out the end zone
because it was such a short ball that the has
had to run four yards out of the to catch
it and then flip back and do a reverse layup
into the end zone. We just got to be better
(39:05):
with this as as as a media, as viewers, as
viewers of this, we have to be better.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
And just who we're talking about is.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
The reason why teams are winning, the reason why teams
are losing. Like you think that Jake Browning is as
good as Joe Burrow, No, exactly, So what are we doing?
What are we doing? Let's give credit to the guys
out there who are you know, really some of the
best in the league.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Martin.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
He's doing a good job. He is Browning is he
needs his flowers as well. He deserves his flowers. And
I think, you know, I could see that coming in
when when Burrows got hurt and he came in that
game late, even though they didn't win or threaten to
get back all the way in the game. He showed
glimpses where I was like this team might be okay
with him, and he's playing well, So give him a
little credit to.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
And you know, shalute to the Cincinnati Bengals for having
a good backup quarterback, you know, seriously, because as we've seen,
Minnesota is what on the third quarterback this year?
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yeah, you know, fourth, I think to start a game.
As a matter of fact, Kirk Cousins, Jared Hall and
then uh.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
The pastronaut Josh Don Nick Bolin, Josh Dobs Ellen's sanity
run fast?
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Isn't that story crazy?
Speaker 5 (40:15):
Everybody's saying he should be the backup or the starting
with the Jets, and now he's back on the bench,
and this is just crazy how fast that turns, right?
Speaker 2 (40:21):
I mean?
Speaker 3 (40:22):
I mean, but hey, if you saw Zach Wilson being
AFC Player of the Week last week, more credit to you,
because I sure didn't.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
I knew.
Speaker 5 (40:29):
I knew Zach was gonna be fine. They're playing they're
putting so much blame on him, and I knew seeing it.
It's like this team isn't functioning well. It's not just
about him. Obviously the quarterback gets a lot of it,
but sure he had a chance to be good, and
I think he's a talented kid.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
See look now, I feel you're trying to do the same.
Let's just sign the appropriate amount of blame. That's what
you're trying to get it. Let's just sign the appropriate
amount of blame. Well, all the blame right now is
on Brandon Staley with what going on with the Los
Angeles Chargers.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
That's up next, Martin and Carrey. Fox Sports Radio.

Brandon Staley as he's driving his way out of LA
(41:47):
because I don't know if he can afford to stay
here without a job. It's expensive out here, folks in
Los Angeles. But no, Tyler Dragon just said it at
the bottom of last hour. You know, Bill Belichick is
I think the buzzword the front runner for the new
Chargers job, either that or Jim Harbaugh. But Carrie, I
just and I know there's only thirty two jobs in
(42:09):
the league, right, so you gotta take them if it's
offered to you. Right, this Charger's job. It feels like
maybe I'm ball myself. Maybe you gotta let me know
what you think about this. Yeah, I don't feel like
it's nearly as desirable as people make it out to be.
You have your quarterback under contract in Justin Herbert, right, yep.
But like it's not a stretch to think that a
(42:32):
potential coach may not like Justin Herbert.
Speaker 6 (42:33):
Right.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
That's the first thing we are operating under that everybody
just has him as what they are looking for in
their quarterback, which may or may not be true.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Right, That's the first thing.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
But the second thing, you got Austin Eckler, you got
Keenan Allen Mike Williams and these guys are all in
there the I'm gonna say the sunset of their careers,
but they're about my age. Khalil Mack Joey Bosay ended
the season on I Are Mike will can't stay healthy.
Keenan Allen is my Austin Eckler is older. You know,
they didn't want to commit to him long term in
(43:04):
the offseason.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
So I see a.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
Team that has a lot of name recognition, but not
necessarily a lot of back end talent. When you look
at their drafts, I think they hit on Justin Herbert,
they hit on Reshaun Slater, A Sante Samuel Jr. Yeah,
and then what you know, they bring in a guy
like J. C. Jackson. He's going with before the season's
over in New England. Back in New England, right, Kenneth
(43:29):
Murray at linebacker, to me, is might be one of
the worst in the league who starts. If I'm a lot,
if you watch the film, I watch a lot, I'll
try to break the look at my all twenty two
and see what I'm looking at. Look, I see him
taking a lot of wrong steps, you know, like he's
doing a lot of thinking and not too much playing. Yeah, right,
and so you Sebastia Joseph Day is a highly paid
(43:52):
defensive tackle on his team, and I'm like, kinda what
is he doing out there? It feels like this team
is one that we know a lot of the players
but don't really I mean, I don't see just in
and out. And I went through all that without saying.
Derwin James, who you know, is like Tyler just said,
the highest pace safety in the league.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Well, Travis Couti eats this team for lunch.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Yeah, you would think that would be a matchup that
would be favorable for Los Angeles, Right, Well, I.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
Don't think it's ever favorable, but I think it would
be closer than.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
More favorable, right, more favorable than anybody else in the league.
When you got a big because Derningdem's a big body safety,
you think he go and cover. And I mean he
got beat on a few you know, everybody in the
world world got beat on Thursday night when they lost,
I mean gave up sixty three points. But I just
don't see the Chargers as this major landing spot. This
(44:39):
is a super desirable job. I think that there are
other jobs in the NFL that will open up or
probably will open up by the end of the season,
whether it be Chicago or Washington, that I would think
would really a blank slate here. You have a lot
of cap hit that you have to deal with, and
you're in a market in which literally no one cares,
(45:01):
right and I don't mean that to be.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
I'm not exaggerating.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
There's no one in Los Angeles on the grand scheme
who cares about what the Chargers do.
Speaker 5 (45:11):
You might be onto something there for sure, and I'm
with you on that because number one, the names that
we talk about with the Chargers, they don't stay healthy.
Number one, Right, you can't count on them guys being
there for seventeen games in the season. The competitive nature,
the commpetitive fire that seems to be lacking with them
(45:35):
obviously also plays into part. I mean, you can get
some new blood in there and maybe they that changes,
But from what we've seen the last couple of years,
year in and year out, we're talking about the same
and Raven about the names they have, those names don't
show up. The only ones that show up consistently Kennan
Allen does. I mean, he's a guy that you can
always count on to be there and to play and
(45:56):
to make you know, and to compete. Like you could
tell he loves to win, right, you can see that
from him. I mean, Derwin James is somebody that you
know doesn't like to lose. But he's somebody that's not
going to be there all seventeen. He's the guy that's
injury prone. Bosa obviously injury prone. Khalil Mack. I think
he's on his last leg. I actually said the other day,
I think he'll probably retire at the end of the year. So,
(46:17):
and I don't have that inside information.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
He fels up there in terms of the league, in
terms of sacks tackles were lost. Yeah, but let's not
forget the first time they played this Raiders team. Ain't
O'Connell's first start. I believe he had six sacks? Yeah,
so he had six and one game. Yeah, yeah, No,
I think yeah, I agree with you on the desirability part.
I think there's some people that may want to just
(46:40):
be in LA as a coach and start something with
a team that has potential. But again, they don't have
a passionate fan base, they don't have an owner that
seems like he really knows what he's doing, or even
cares to be honestly, to be honest, And so the
foundation of what the charges represent for a coach that's
coming in with like the people we're talking about right now,
(47:01):
right Belichick or Tomlins and Harbor, with these guys, they're
gonna want to win. And if these guys aren't buying
into that, and the fan base is and buying into that,
why would they come here? You know, I'm glad you
brought that up. Yeah, head coaches, new head coaches especially, are.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
Gonna want to win.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
You know what's hard to do when the division that
Patrick mahonmes is playing exactly even with all the chief
struggles right now, guess what they're running away with this thing.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
They would have to have a pretty monumental collapse, which
I mean it may happen, and Tony can't line up
on sides.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
And it might happen. Martin.
Speaker 5 (47:35):
I'm actually I'm scared for the Chiefs right now. I mean,
that's why I'm looking at this Denver game really closely.
Because Denver wins this game, they're eight and six.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (47:43):
The Chiefs lose this next game. They're eight and six,
So it's a conversation.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
If the Chiefs lose to the Patriots, chief Kingdom is
going to be beside itself, especially after all the crying
and won and and bitch and I heard about Kadarius
Tony lining up off sides. Goodness, and we'll get to
actually get to that and about the next segment. We'll
talk about Andy Reid and those fines that came down
Read and find one hundred thousand onlost fifty thousand for
(48:09):
I mean, just bitching and moaning after after Kadarius Tony
decided to line up off sides. But still you took
it the Broncos team. Okay, you got a hall of
fame head coach there, in my opinion, in Sean Payton.
Yeah right, you got a hall of fame coach in
Kansas City. You got a borderline guy with Russ.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
You know what I'm saying. Russ is not going to
be in the Hall of Fame. He will probably end
up in the Hall of very good.
Speaker 4 (48:31):
Right.
Speaker 5 (48:32):
He's not an insult No, you know, I don't. I
don't know, And I think I hate that these last
couple of years has happened to him because before that
he's in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
For sure.
Speaker 5 (48:42):
And so now do we take away what he's done
in his in his in his career in Seattle, winning
winning super Bowls, I mean, making crazy plays when he
was there. It's it's tough. If if Eli Manning gets in,
then he would have to be in. I don't know,
(49:04):
you don't think so.
Speaker 3 (49:05):
Never received an MVP vote in his career.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Russell Wi Eli Manning. Eli Manning had two Super Bowls.
Russ's got one, should have had too, could have.
Speaker 6 (49:15):
No.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
I agree, No, I'm with you. I'm just the conversation
of it. It's like, no, I feel you.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
I just when I look at the league and I
think about who are the top five top ten quarterbacks
that we consistently went through and throughout, I feel like
guys above him will be voted in. But either way,
either way, we're debating a first B plus right right now.
So it's like, yeah, I mean Russ top not necessarily
the top of his game, but again, Hall of Fame
(49:39):
coach in my opinion, is Sean Payton. In terms we
look at the metrics, he's up there with Tomlin and
Reid and winning percentage, and you know, the NFL didn't
have it out for him with bounty Gate, he wouldn't
have had three seven to nine seasons.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
Any I'm a Saints fan about to say, that's what
the Sames guy.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
And let's remember Case Keen was making his start this
week as first start of the year. Uh, Minnesota, Merria,
Case Kingdom. You have three Saints defenders tackling each other
as the fondage runs into the end zone. Yeah, I
remember it vividly. But I said that to say, I
think you have Denver on the rise. Kansas City has
had a residency in the AFC Championship Game over the
(50:16):
last five years. Why on earth would you want to
go and to play these two teams four times up
to seventeen you're gonna play?
Speaker 5 (50:24):
Yeah, I agree with you, But and I also I
said this the other day too. If I was Bill Belichick,
why would I go take another job anyway? I would
for him, he should be going home.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
To be done.
Speaker 5 (50:40):
That's just my personal opinion. He's done it long enough.
I think he's outweigh I think him connecting with the
youth right now and these younger players, I just don't
see it happening anyway. So I mean, obviously this is
for the conversation and the sake of you know, coming
out here and having a chance to coach the Chargers.
Would he want to do it? Maybe, but I would
(51:03):
see him not even doing it in just in calling
to day.
Speaker 3 (51:07):
I mean he is just what is that eighteen wins
behind the all time leader Don Shula with uh, let's see,
this is kind of sick because I'm pulling up this
article of October thirty, October twenty, October thirtieth. Rather I
should say, and I mean he just when he passed
George Hallis where he had a tie with three twenty
(51:29):
five apiece Don Shula three forty seven in terms of victories,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
It's it's within reach. That it's within reach.
Speaker 3 (51:38):
So that might be enough motivation right there to hang
on and find the new place to go, get six
wins for the next four years, right and catch up
and become the winning as coach in NFL history. But
you know, like that's true, But I just don't see
why the seemingly, like the media at large and and
(52:00):
just across the board, people are locked in, like there's Chargers.
If the Chargers roping, you gotta run and take that job.
So like there's a few different places that at least
are more of a flat surface where you can build
your own vision and you can see with the Chargers,
the Chargers. I know that Spanos isn't necessarily gonna cut
the check like he like you would like the Broncos
(52:21):
did to get Sean Payton. This is going to be
expensive to get some of these top guys in there,
I think it is. And Sean Payton five years, eighteen
million per.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
Does he make eighteen million in Denver?
Speaker 3 (52:32):
Yes, that's why he's there.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
I remember he was.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
He was linked to this Chargers job for a long
long time when he was over there sitting on Colin
Cowherd's couch.
Speaker 5 (52:41):
Yeah, that's what he kept lobbying for, is what he
was doing. He was talking about that one. I remember
that when he was when he was in the media.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
But when he went out there and said, you know, oh,
eighteen million, bow Hi, here we come. I'm buying a coat.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
For that exactly. I mean think about it.
Speaker 5 (52:55):
So if your guy Peyton, if he did get this job,
if he had his job this year, you think this
team would be better right now?
Speaker 2 (53:04):
The Chargers.
Speaker 3 (53:05):
Yeah, without Brandon. I think Brandon Staley was a double agent.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
You think he was bad.
Speaker 3 (53:11):
I mean, they're only two, They're only two in the
first two weeks of the season, about to win in Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
Yeah, and if it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
For the the just the disgusting mistake by Kirk Cousins
to throw an interception in the end zone, we would
have all been talking about how he went for fourth
to four of his old twenty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
I know, the game on the line and they were
up four field go doesn't even beaches. Yeah, defensive coach
doesn't want to call it defense.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
Yeah. No, Oh, I think he's bad too, Don't get
me wrong.
Speaker 5 (53:40):
I think's stay and his analytics is the worst thing
that's happened to football in general, because he would do
some stuff that just made no sense. But I'm meaning
with the way this team is. I mean, obviously they're
injured in all the things we can see where they
are and right now, but come into the year, you
would expect, if Peyton was here and with the Chargers,
expect to be a playoff team.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
And I think it makes no noise.
Speaker 3 (54:02):
I think at least competing for a wildcard very Somil
to Denver, like Denver's competing for a wildcar right now,
if things break their way, they could win the division.
But really, honestly probably slided in at the wildcard spot
for Denver. But yeah, real quick, on Brandon Staley. I
read this in The Athletic. Jordan rod Rey wrote it
when she was she covers the Rams. This is on
(54:23):
Brandon Staley's year with the Rams. And if we go
back and look at this, the results of twenty twenty
in general across the board, maybe just maybe the fact
that it was a worldwide pandemic had some impact on
what was happening with what we were watching. But I
remember reading this because he had this whole theory that
he could cover a gap and a half with his
(54:43):
defensive line. Then I don't want to get too football nerdy, right,
but cover a gap and a half. I remember thinking
how much it is is because you have Aaron Donalds,
who requires a triple team, So sure Michael Brockers can
cover a gap and a half because there's nobody there.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Yeah, you know, the.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
All three people are focused on on Aaron donald and
then on the back end you got Jalen Ramsey. So maybe,
just maybe, when you got two future Hall of famers
on the back end of or on the defense, and
the guy coordinates it for one year, you shouldn't offer
him a head coaching job.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
Yeah, it's that part. It's just the one year.
Speaker 5 (55:13):
It's like you've done it one year with the names
that you just named, and yes, success is going to happen.
But again, when you play that gap scheme, obviously there
are players that fit that exactly. And when you don't
get those guys, this is what happens. You get to
see the real result of what that crazy nonsense would
look like.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
And that's what it looks like now.
Speaker 3 (55:33):
Dude, I just thinking man gap and a half. I mean,
there are only one man. You know, there's only one
man down there. How're you supposed to cover? You know,
the A gap in half of the B gap. That
doesn't that that does not jive with what I know
about football. But you know, hey, brandis Stills coach of
the league. Maybe he's got to figure it out, you know.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
No, it turns out great players make great plays.
Speaker 9 (55:51):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (55:52):
Coming up next, we'll get into the Chiefs.
Speaker 10 (55:54):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
They're still crying about Kadarius Tony lining up off side.
You see you said earlier it's the ref jobs to
warn them apparently not, but they.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
Fines came down for the Chiefs for their complaints.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
After the game, we'll take a look in on this
Lion's Broncos game lines with a fourteen point lead and
a mistackle right there as the Broncos have the ball
driving down the field with eight minutes left. We'll get
into that next. Martin and Carrie Rhoades. Brought to you

And there are very few times that I am jaw
on the ground, shocked like just wide eyed shocked, cannot
believe what I am reading and right now qualifies Carrie
right now qualifies as Adam Schefter just a few minutes
(57:16):
ago tweets out and says, after being clear at the practice,
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is likely to be
medically cleared this to play this upcoming week. That's correct,
League sources told ESPN. I have a feelings league sources
might be Aaron Rodgers himself from Schefter's piece. Rogers has
(57:36):
acknowledged he won't be one hundred percent until after the season,
but he has said he'd be willing to play if
the Jets are in the playoff race. The fourth time
MVP has also said it wouldn't make a ton of
sense to return if the Jets, who are now five
and eight, are mathematically eliminated, said Rogers, and the Jets
organization still need to get together to discuss returning next
Sunday is the right step they want to take. Much
(57:58):
could depend on the outcome of the Jets this week
fifteen games Sunday in Miami against the Dolphins, and if
New York sties any chance even infinitesimal. Yeah, that means
small of making the playoffs. And again the Dolphins we
saw just lose to the Titans. Tyreek Hill is gonna
determine its own status, it says, But that would makes
(58:18):
more sense. It's an ankle spring.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
This is achilles.
Speaker 3 (58:23):
Rodgers was said to have two impressive days of practice
in the last week, leaving his coaches and teammates thoroughly
pleased with what they saw. But he also didn't have
to loot in the oncoming pass rushers, escape from the pocket,
or do any of the things he'd be forced to
do in a real game. I have been planting my flag,
going like, I'm sorry Aaron Rodgers not playing football again
this year.
Speaker 2 (58:41):
He's just not the.
Speaker 3 (58:43):
Videos that we circulating the internet. Sa Aaron Rodgers, He's
not playing football this season because it's science. Are we
finishing a medical miracle? Because that's the only way I
could talk. I mean, what what in hell?
Speaker 5 (58:57):
Hey man, Hyahwuaska's a real baby. That's that's the truth.
I think you started rubbing some of that on that
on that on that uh.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
On the achilles.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
I think it can snap back and get back into
the right position. So no, but Aaron's. Aaron's been adamant
about you know, getting back and being being the first
one or you know, being one of the ones to
be able to come back as quickly.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
It would be the first person to hurt himself during
in the regular season and returned in the same return.
Speaker 5 (59:32):
During the season. How long was cam Akers deal? Because
he came back super quickly, he came back in the
Super Bowl because he got hurt late though.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
He got hurt.
Speaker 5 (59:39):
I mean like he got hurt in the first drive
of the season. So I just want to see if
that times the same time. But anyway, cam Akers took
four months to get back, four months and what and
so what September November four months, so it'd be around
three and a half four months. It's crazy to think about.
But I heard September eleventh, yes, yeah, yeah, so it's
four months now, right, So it's yeah, December or sixteenth.
(01:00:01):
But anyway, yeah, I mean I've heard the Errands in
practice playing safety on the scout team and making one
hundred interceptions, so I know that to be true. I
don't know if he's running around, planting, breaking, doing all that,
if he's just standing around catching the ball one hand
doesn't matter. He's out there doing that, And I mean
he said it. If the Jets are mathematically in the playoffs,
(01:00:22):
he'll he'll come back, and if it works out for
both both parties, for the team and himself, he'd come
back and play. So I think, like you said, it's
all predicated on if this team can win this Sunday
tomorrow against the Dolphins, which they won't. I think they
have a chance, you'll see. I do you think they
have a shot. I don't think they have a shot.
I do, I do, I think they do. I think
(01:00:42):
Miami's injured right now. They got some injuries to deal with.
They have some some issues with confidence on the horizon
as well. So yeah, we'll see, We'll see what happens.
I'm shocked.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
I know you are. See your face. I'm right beside you.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
I see you're shocked, because it's just like I hadn't
heard it all before. It will be back week seventeen
versus Command a lot, But to hear that he's sitting
around playing scout team safety, first of all, seems like
an incredibly reckless thing to do. With the Kuya stories
of killers four months ago. It is like, what do
we do. Could you imagine if you had heard that
(01:01:18):
Aaron Rodgers got hurt attempting a one arm Dinners on
one hand interception at playing scout team.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
Safety, It'd be crazy, it was. That's grounds for firing everybody.
It is.
Speaker 5 (01:01:28):
It is, But I'm sure he wasn't backpelling and doing
the whole deal.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
That's why I want to throw it out there, loo.
Speaker 5 (01:01:33):
I mean, you know, I want to be a little
bit concrete with I'm sure it was him probably standing around,
but the fact that he jumped up and caught it
with one hand or whatever the I guess the full
makeup of that play was.
Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
It did happen.
Speaker 3 (01:01:47):
I just you know, I no, no, no, no, no, I'm sorry.
I've watched too much football in my life. I do
not believe that Aaron Rodgers is about to go two
to zero versus science.
Speaker 4 (01:01:59):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
He beat it with the immunization deal, Yeah right, eating
with that.
Speaker 6 (01:02:03):
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
I'm immunized, not vaccinating, eating with that.
Speaker 4 (01:02:08):
No.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
I refuse to leave that Aaron Rodgers is gonna beat
science twice. I don't care what they say. There's so
many caveats involved, and you know what, I just go
ahead Miami and take care of business tomorrow so we
don't have to hear this for the next ten days,
because that's all it's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (01:02:23):
You just wanted to Oh you don't want to happen now,
so your take can be true. Oh come on, now,
that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
I like being right. You want to be right.
Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
I like being right. But it just doesn't make sense
to me. If this is like two plus two is cheese,
like it doesn't like apples and oranges. No, no, no,
this is like a steake.
Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
I don't know, I can't.
Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
It makes no sense to me that Aaron Rodgers would
be able to come back and defend himself against who's
the commanders. I know they traded away every pass one
soon they had on the team, but still they're gonna
line four guys up out there.
Speaker 5 (01:02:53):
They are, and Aaron Rodgers is gonna pick him apart.
I see it happen, and I hope they when they
win tomorrow and they're six and eight and have a
legit chance to make the playoffs, get ready.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
So you just want a Ron You just want your
former team to do well.
Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
That's what this is.
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
That is correct, But haint hant ay Rob will be back.
Speaker 3 (01:03:12):
Ay, Rob will be back, says Carry Rhodes. Approaching a
two minute warning here in Denver and Detroit. Steve de Seger,
I'm sure it's all over that game and everything else
in the world of sports.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
Steve, what's going on, my guy?
Speaker 8 (01:03:24):
It is a two minute warning in Detroit. Fourteen tozhing
Lions over the Broncos Denver, which is four first downs
in the first half. They had a fumble on a
strip sack on their first drive in the night. And yeah,
Jared Goff with two touchdown passes and they're shutting him out.
The first TD pass was nineteen yards to Sam Laporta,
the next one from golf nine yard touchdown pass to
Jamier Gibbs. This is the third of three Saturday games
(01:03:46):
in the NFL. Colts beat the Steelers thirty to thirteen.
Gardner Minshew three touchdown passes. Bengals in over time beat
the Vikings and a comeback twenty seven to twenty four.
Bengals trailed seventeen to three after three quarters. Sew quarterback
Gino Smith, with the groind injury, is questionable for Monday
night against the Eagles. He was limited in practice this
week The Texans will start quarterback Case Keenum tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
C J.
Speaker 8 (01:04:09):
Stroud is out at Tennessee. He's still in concussion protocol.
He missed practice all week. Texans defensive end Will Anderson
is out this weekend. Chiefs coach Andy Reid was fined
one hundred thousand dollars for his criticism of the rest
last Sunday. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was fined fifty thousand dollars.
Kansas City running back Isaiah Pacheco is out tomorrow. He
had shoulder surgery, but should be back at practice next week.
(01:04:31):
Washington running back Brian Robinson out for Sunday at the
Rams with a hamstring injury. Packers wide receiver Christian Watson
was listed as doubtful with a bad hamstring. As for
college football, the first six bowl games of this postseason
and currently the LA Bowl going on in I Wonder
where UCLA against Boise State and the Bruins have scored
(01:04:52):
so the Boise lead now sixteen to fourteen over UCLA
early in the third quarter and in the opening two minutes.
Cal has scored in the eight night game against Texas
Tech seven to nothing for the Golden Bears. Fresno State
a thirty seven to ten winner over New Mexico State
in Albuquerque, Apple Atchian State in the Reign of Orlando
won thirteen to nine over Miami, Ohio Jacksonville State with
(01:05:14):
an overtime win in the Superdome thirty four to thirty
one over Louisiana in the New Orleans Bowl, and Ohio
U won its bowl game in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
forty one twenty one over Georgia Southern. Next Saturday, seven
bowl games to college basketball in Indianapolis, Number three rank
Perdue beat number one Arizona ninety two to eighty four,
(01:05:34):
Number two Kansas and narrow win at Indiana seventy five
seventy one. Fourth rank Houston edged Texas A and M
seventy to sixty six. Michigan State in Detroit beat up
Number six Baylor eighty eight sixty four, and in Atlanta
it was Kentucky over North Carolina eighty seven to eighty three.
The Detroit Pistons have lost twenty three straight games. That
(01:05:56):
was the first final in of the ten games in
the NBA Tonight, Milwaukee let's Detroit one forty six to
one fourteen. Philadelphia has won it six game in a row,
one thirty five eighty two at Charlotte. That is a
fifty three point victory, reportedly the most lopsided road win
all time in the NBA Joel embiid with forty two points.
(01:06:17):
And by the way, if you don't read Adam Schefter,
it's a little less sensational on the Aaron Rodgers story,
Ian Rapaport NFL Network saying Rogers has to be activated
off IR by Wednesday to have a chance to play
this season and quote while sources say more discussions are
needed on Monday and Tuesday to arrive at a final conclusion. Yes,
tomorrow's game could go a long way to determining what's next,
(01:06:39):
because if they lose, it could be eliminated from the playoffs,
and if that happens, Rogers likely not going to be activated.
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
If they do win, they.
Speaker 8 (01:06:46):
Keep faint hopes alive for the postseason at six and eight,
and then the pendulum quote would likely swing the other direction.
He could be activated to the fifty three man roster,
but still would be unlikely to play next week end.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
Quote back to you, thanks Steve, and without further ado,
one guy I knows plugged in on the New York
Jets himself coming on our show right now, Alex Monaco
money Line Monico himself MSG Networks.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
And catches his show in the Juice Bar.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
I don't know what time it comes on, but I
know I see it every morning on a rerun on
the TVs at work.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
Alex, how you doing?
Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
My friend.
Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
Marin Gay, appreciate you having me. Let's go Saturday night.
Let's talk some shop. Baby. We got the Lions. Lions
running this old school Madden on the broncos Man like
they haven't worn six to seven. Love to see you.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
Look you want to talk about old school Madden? Did
they turn the injuries off in New York? How in
the world are we in a place where Aaron Rodgers came?
This could be suiting up as Perry. You heard Steve
de Sager just now and me last segment in disbelief.
But it all matters for tomorrow, the Dolphins and the Jets.
(01:07:58):
Do you think the jo have the Jets have a
sh shot at winning this thing and keeping the season
alive for Aaron Rodgers all.
Speaker 4 (01:08:06):
Not only do they have a shot, I mean we
have to take the eight and a half. I call
it the castanza double dip. We gotta sprinkle on the
money line plus three fifty shot them.
Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
Boyle, Boyle, who is what thinking of that?
Speaker 4 (01:08:20):
In a seventy one, maybe a sixty seven, I don't know,
playing against the Dolphins a cup of coffee go. You know,
a couple elements get two times in a month. Tough
to beat a team twice. Secondarily, you got the Cowboys
week after. Not gonna say it's a look ahead spot.
There's a lot of reasons for the Dolphins team to
(01:08:40):
just just right off this New York club that has
just run a mook all over quarterbacks. I mean, Stroud
held under one hundred. We hope he's all right for
this week. Not looking like it. But this is a
defense that keeps you in every game. And this is
a scary Jack Wilson with nothing to lose. I mean,
you gotta be serious, nothing to lose on the podium
(01:09:01):
saying what's the worst that could happen? I lose my
job again with Garry Rodgers in the I mean, come on,
I keep.
Speaker 5 (01:09:08):
Going, Alex, what do you think is going on with
this Dolphins team right now? Obviously we can see that
it seems like to have a confidence issue. In big
time games, and so I'm not saying that this game
is a big time game, but they're dealing with injuries
as well. What do you see the psyche of this
Miami Dolphins team.
Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
I mean, Garrett, for the first thing mcgalel needs to
do is roll down the sweatpans and stop and joining
himself so much hard knocked midweek here, I mean, how
many times do we have to watch this sho cow
start in the three to ZHO five defense get ran over.
I mean, Dick Sangil looks like he is too old
(01:09:46):
for today's twenty twenty three offenses. I mean, let's call
a Spanish space. This is a Miami defense right there
in the middle of a pass, wouldn't you in the
first time make history up to two tunnies with three
minutes ago? I lost real Christmas, come money, Oh Monday night.
I brought back my guy DeVito and that cut what's
for everybody? So I don't know what's going on in Miami.
(01:10:08):
I think there's a team that's lost. Of the Bills,
that's lots of the Eagles, that's lost, of the TV.
Who's the third big that it was the Eagle Sunday
night jeez, I'm thinking of the Chiefs, cause, thank you,
I'm thinking of the big Juggernaut three big chugger, not
damn that showed up and showed out against anyone can
look good against mediocre competition with that kind of offensive personnel.
(01:10:30):
They don't get it right out defensive going nowhere, gentlemen,
in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
So from one, as you said, so cal soft in
a three oh five.
Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
Well, uh, maybe bradest Daily's in Miami right now on
the beat sip of the mind tie because he damn
sure as a coaching next week for the Chargers. Uh,
what was your take on Thursday night when you watched
Aidan O'Connell march down the field? I mean, Jakobe Myers
had two completions in that game. He plays wide receiver, Alex.
Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
I mean you you already know what it is, Martin.
I mean, I'm I'm a covering San Diego Charger fan
down the Disneyland Freeway from where you guys are broadcasting
as we speak. I've been watching this song and dance
for years. Everybody owes a handwritten apology to Anthony Lynn.
I don't know what Spanos was doing, Thank goodness, they
did a full court sweeps here and got Tommy two times.
(01:11:18):
TI let's go out there as well. How many times
can make this dibble path? Because of seventy seven degrees
out in December and everyone's still enjoying themselves winning losing
the beach. Somebody needs to hold someone accountable. I'm glad
Spannels stepped up and did it. Shout out Twitter for
the Johnny Stocks and the shift. I think the whole
world talking Sherman at halftime saying he needs to go.
(01:11:40):
He needs to go. I mean, how long are the
leash you're doing? You're doing what kind of stretches? You know?
You can't stretch before the game if you can't win
a game, that's just breaking wed and crosses rule number six.
Drawing attention is help for the negative way I'm stucking.
He needs to do him all favors and not coach
for anybody else for it. Why I take this moment
(01:12:02):
to advocate for Rex Ryance. I think a we're talking
DELI check, sure, that's funny, that's leave yes as it.
Why not bring Rex, a guy that's set a culture
in one of the oldest sports cities, to do it.
Never really had a great quarterback. Let's see San Diego. Now,
(01:12:22):
LA get it right at the head coach and the
quarterback at the same time. Something that they've made way
more difficult than they needed to have over the decade.
Speaker 5 (01:12:31):
I've lift Alex, I gotta, I gotta, I gotta come
back at you about that Rex Ryan one.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Now, that's that's a.
Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
He's he's a really good motivator, a really good defensive coach.
If they want to bring him in for that, I
can see that head coach you want to you want
somebody else that can handle handle the big the big scope,
the big picture of what La would bring to him.
And I don't think he's that guy. Think he'd be
a great defensive coordinator. But let's talk about the Chargers still.
Let's let's piggyback on that a little bit more. Though
(01:12:59):
we talked about it. Martin said it in the first
hour talking about you know, is the Chargers situation a
real desirable one?
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
Right now? Right?
Speaker 5 (01:13:08):
We come into every year thinking they're super talented, they
got the quarterback they need, and they should win and
they've come up short here every year. Right, Is this
situation a real desirable situation?
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
And if so, why.
Speaker 4 (01:13:24):
I mean, look again, I'm a little biased being emotionally
attached to this toxic accident as the LA Chargers thinks
to span up. I mean again, I grew up, watched
the stadium crumble and then then go up a freeway
and be a tenant of a building. So I got
a lot of two things to say, all things to
say about this team, but they answered the question. I
don't know how it's not desirable. It's again, Herbert needs
(01:13:47):
to prove to be honest a whole MVT type season
to get back in the top five conversations. He has
absolutely moved down to MySpace topic. No way, this guy's
in the top five conversation this year's I'm sorry, I'm
sick of them not delivering in this team going nowhere.
He needs to win a playoff game and be held
to the same standard. But it is incredibly an appetizing
(01:14:11):
job for someone coming in because there's a lot of
infrastructure built. I mean, this is a team that's got
pretty good trenches on both sides. Any time you got
both of them, Mac in the front seven with Derwin
in the back, but Herbert healthy, I guess you give
Kellen Moore another go. I mean, I don't really know
what's going on internally in the locker room. So all
(01:14:31):
that to say, great, great spot for someone coming in
that can really be a leader of menment. That's what
they heat. There's no culture. And again I've lived there.
You guys are living there. There's a lot of reasons
to enjoy yourself, even if you go six and eleven.
I mean, I'm living in this seasonal depression right now, freezing,
(01:14:51):
leaving work wrapped in five sil cal layers incorrectly in
New York. You don't win over here. You're pissed off
over there. You're still going to the beach speaking on
New York.
Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
I got it real quick.
Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
I got to ask you, is this the week that
Tommy DeVito comes back down to Earth or are they
gonna go ahead and roll the Saints.
Speaker 4 (01:15:10):
Well, I gotta first give some flowers to my guy Martin.
You're not only telling you what Derek Carr was not
gonna do on the field this year and trying to
talk me out of all things Saints in the South,
but you, I mean you called that to a te
preseason all the way through, So that real quick. But
to answer the question, I mean, how do we not
(01:15:31):
take the six. The Saints are the worst favorite cover
in the league to two eight and one against the
spread this season, most ats losses as a favorite. I
mean Tommy Cutlets. I got my mom changed in Christmas
Eve dinner, my Italian mom the cutlets because of this guy.
Seventy two percent per percentage and he taking care of
(01:15:53):
the Rocks, and that's really stable. He's them up. This
is a bad Saints d that's given up what I
got my notes tradd here, Carol. I had to toyl though,
but two hundred rush shards against him. They just have
to give two six a Rock who already wants to
make it up to a team. After slipping on the
Mario Carpanan appeal and almost coping them the game on
nacial television, they turn it around. Hey run the Rocks day?
(01:16:16):
What car doing things? Like Martin said all year, I
don't know how you don't cover. But again, they're one
game out of the playoff picture. I think you have
to sprinkle again on the money line. This is a
week Martindale defense that is bending in that break.
Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
Look, first of all, I'm all over it, Alex Monico,
You're always all over it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
Thank you for joining us.
Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
He's on Twitter at Moneyline Monico on MSG with our
guys Sean Little as well for the juice bar, and he's.
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
All over the place.
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Look Knicks pregame. If you be in New York, you're
not missing Alex Monico. Thank you for joining the show today.
Appreciate you, my friend, Alex.
Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
Appreciate your brother, Hey, appreciate you boys. Enjoy it all right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
Coming up next, he just touched on a little bit.
Is our version of upset Alert. We like to call
it the Atomic Dogs. Martin Westkerry Roads, Fox Words Radio
coming to you live from the tyreck dot Com Studios.
It's Carrie Rhodes and Martin Weiss VJ Husky out uh
playing sick today. Hopefully he feels better soon and back
(01:17:13):
on the air as soon as possible. If you want
to get at us on Twitter, you can. I'm at
Martin Weise, Carrie is at Carrie twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Rhodes like this guy, Markoofski.
Speaker 3 (01:17:26):
He said he's pleasantly surprised by the play of Brock Berdy,
who's played well. Thought his best game was the loss
to Cleveland with dout left tackle Trent Williams and Christian
McCaffrey and Dee Bovarus. A nasty defense that had a
bad game. He still got forty nine ers into position
to win, but the kicker missed the field goal. Man.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
He used all two hundred and eighty on that tweek.
That was a lot, it was. That was yeah, he
was trying to exact revenge on somebody.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
Poor Jake, Poor Jake Moody, Michigan kicker drafted in the
third round Robbie Gold officially announcer's retirement. You see that.
Oh yeah, I did see that. I didn't see officially
announcers time a few weeks ago. I know right now,
my friend Mike's oilver up there and San Francisco is
losing his mind. But now, carry you played the game.
I picked the games. Let's see how good you are
(01:18:10):
doing this. It's time for the atomic dogs.
Speaker 6 (01:18:16):
They may be me, they may be ugly, but it's
time to open the case because these dogs are gonna
keep barking if they don't get fat.
Speaker 3 (01:18:30):
And they're hungry. It's time for the atomic dogs.
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Carry away.
Speaker 4 (01:18:40):
We do this.
Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
Wait, why are the dogs sounds so non scary? Though?
Speaker 3 (01:18:44):
Hey, you know what, because I didn't do the imager,
and that's why I was like, Okay, but no, we
can't do the imaging.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
My first atomic dog. My team want upset alert.
Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
Right now, I'm going with Tommy Cuttlet's say in the
passing Pizon, all right, give me the New York Giants
five and eight against the New Orleans Saints six and seven.
Who in the hell of the New Orleans Saints of
lay six and a half? Boys, you only got the
worst coaching quarterback combination of the league. Give me Tommy
Cutler's right now, the New York Giants.
Speaker 2 (01:19:12):
You like that one?
Speaker 4 (01:19:13):
Huh?
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
I do the Giants over set? I don't even know. Okay,
I'll give you that my underdog pick for this week.
You know I gotta do it, Do.
Speaker 1 (01:19:25):
Ahead, do it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
You know I gotta do it. Go ahead and do
it because I want my boy and Rodgers to come
back next week. Just prove me wrong. I'm going Jets
over Dolphins. They're a minus eight and a half right now.
Speaker 5 (01:19:37):
That's a big, one, massive spread, But I'm gonna take
the Jets to win out right Sunday, Get your pop
going ready, Brandon.
Speaker 3 (01:19:44):
I'm sorry to do this to you. My second dog
of the week. The Dallas Cowboys. I get there five
hundred on the road. They're two point underdogs right now.
It's not the juiciest, but I just look, the Bills
have been up and down and up and down and
up and down. In the Carderius Tony lined up six
inches backwards. He would have been down last week. So
let me be down this week. Give me the Dallas Cowboys.
You got another one.
Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
I got one more.
Speaker 5 (01:20:05):
I believe in the team who's the favorite, but I
can see this team sneaking up and getting to win.
The plan better quarterback back. I'm gonna take the Bears
over Clay that as a as a sleeper pick. The
Bears are plan well Field is playing well. I'm gonna
I'm gonna. I'm gonna ride with the Bears in that one.
Even though I you know, I like Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (01:20:26):
It is just a really honestly a strange world that
we live in in that Joe Flacco is a three
point favorite.
Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
That's nuts. My last dog.
Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
I'm gonna go ahead and go with the Seattle Seahawks
over the Philadelphia Eagles. The forty nine Ers lost three
straight this year. I think the Eagles gonna lose three
straight here as long as you know Smith plays, Get
well soon, Gina, we missed you. Coming up next, Moore
Martin and Carrie Rose.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):

Speaker 2 (01:21:15):
It's the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Russell Wilson just threw a touchdown pass to one of
my favorite names in the NFL, Little Jordan Humphrey. Or
did he carry because you pointed at me it looked
like that.
Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
Yeah, no, no, no, you said it. You called it.
Speaker 5 (01:21:27):
You didn't think it was a touchdown. You thought it
hit the ground. It might it moved a little bit,
might be, so might be some trouble. So the reason
why I feel like I have a great eye for
the second stuff. Right when I was a kid, as
long as I got good grades, I was able to
go to the Saints games.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
The Saints were terrible at the time.
Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
Who wearing bags over the head, so the tickets couldn't
have been that crazy, But that was that was my gift, right,
you gotta go to the Saints game on Sunday because
they always played on Sunday. It was never a Monday
night or anything like that because they.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
Stunk all right.
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
But we would sit up in the stands and where
we sat, essentially is one of the views now for
All twenty two. But I didn't know what All twenty
two was as a seven, eight, ten, you know, twelve
year old, right, Yeah, I don't think you would know that.
I didn't know it was, but I just told But
I was growing up watching the whole field. Right then
you add in that the guy next to us for
(01:22:17):
like ten years, he would sit there and be like,
that's a hole in the refel car, it's a whole
that's passing the ference. He's reference, sir, it up fifteen
yards on the defense. Like, man, how did you see this?
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
He was a high school referee, the guy who sat
next to us for ten something years.
Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
So after a while I was able to see, like,
that's a false start, and then Michael nextly would be like,
good job, right.
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
So I ended up looking at it.
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
I feel like I was.
Speaker 3 (01:22:44):
I learned football watching it in all twenty two angle
on accident.
Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
That's a right story.
Speaker 5 (01:22:50):
I want to know how much those tickets were though,
If you're going every week, we had season ticket Oh yeah,
oh you guys have season tickets.
Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
Get the ticket hold, go it. That's why we were
in the same seat every week, season ticket hold.
Speaker 3 (01:22:59):
I mean, you don't get me wrong. I'm sure they
were expensive, but like not like they were in two
thousand and eight, nine, ten, when Drew Brees had the
don't rocket right?
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
What years were those when you were when you were going,
oh gosh.
Speaker 5 (01:23:12):
The Jeff Blake to Aaron Brooks Arrow New Orleans that
was still New Orleans, San Francisco and all those in
the same divisions.
Speaker 3 (01:23:18):
Yes, yes, yes, it was JT. O. Sullivan now famous
of the QB school. I remember I'm old enough to
remember Jto Sullivan as the emergency quarterback for New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (01:23:29):
So there you go.
Speaker 5 (01:23:30):
Wait, yes, so you had to be super loyal to
a team that wasn't good. What what about them kept
making you go back? To see them just because your
love of football, or was there somebody on the team
that was still like a favorite.
Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
Player or what was it like Like many other NFL fans,
I made a decision at seven years old that impacted
the rest of my life and moved every Monday during
football season. It's the touchdowns stood there, touchdown still, Okay,
there you go, he said, I got these hands.
Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
Little Jordan up, go ahead, go ahead. Little Jordan's where
big Jordan is? So you just you just got stuck.
You just got stuck with him because you made that decision.
Speaker 6 (01:24:09):
Team.
Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
I grew up watching it. Got it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
My dad used to make fun of me all the
time too, you know he was He would say that,
you know the graphic on the screen, It was like,
right now it says den and and D E N
and d E T for Denver and Detroit. He would
say the n O no just for no team, no
no teams as Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons just
running rough shot war done or you know Mike allstart,
(01:24:35):
you know, just watching these guys boom boom.
Speaker 4 (01:24:39):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (01:24:39):
Yeah, we didn't want to tap him at all, I believe. Yeah,
that was that was a big no no, if he
was coming down downhill full speed, it was you made
a business decision, for sure. I always did like the Jets,
though you did.
Speaker 3 (01:24:50):
I did because you know, my fandom rules said I
was gonna allow like anybody else in the NFC.
Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
And so they had Wayne Corbett ye Qubette out of Hofstra.
Speaker 3 (01:24:59):
Yep, you know Chad Pennington, those teams, Curtis my favorite,
Marshal urt Is my favorite, Mark those I like those.
Speaker 5 (01:25:06):
It's crazy because I played with a couple of those guys,
all of those guys obviously when I as a rookie.
I think my rookie year was Curtis's last last year,
and Chad Me and Chad played a couple of years.
And I think my rookie year was Wayne's last year too,
So I got I got a little.
Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
Bit of that action too. You know who the last
football player from Hofstra was the last one from host
the last the last one because hafsher closed their football program.
Speaker 5 (01:25:31):
Well, I don't know who the last one is, but
I know one that played with your team that was
that you could have rooted for, and that was Marcus Colston.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
Gotcha.
Speaker 3 (01:25:40):
He was the last active player in the NFL from
the University of Hostra. So just in case that's on
ever on Final Jeopardy. Now, you know that's why you're
tuned in right now to get information like that. All right,
let's go talking about yesterday. Looking life in the RuView mirror.
Go ahead, press forwards, put our foot on the gas,
put it in drive, and look at this Bills and
the Cowboys game.
Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:25:59):
The Bill was favored by two points in this matchup,
which to me seems very interesting and is one of
these that as a gambler, makes me makes my skin
crawl a little bit because I don't know why, but
what are you expecting to see this Bills team and
the Cowboys out of the Bill's been up and down
all season?
Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
Uh, depending on how you looked at it, got blessed
in Kansas City. I tend to think, just line up
on sides, bro and you know everything is fine. But
you got that with the Bills who started out Sean
McDermott and the big article that came out kind of
saying he's the big problem with this team.
Speaker 2 (01:26:33):
And then the.
Speaker 3 (01:26:34):
Cowboys, who three and three on the road but complete
world beaters at home. This game being played in Buffalo, Cowboys,
Dak Prescott MVP. Favorite depends on where your shop. What
are you expecting to see tomorrow night? Yeah, this is
an interesting game. Buffalo is a team that I wasn't
high on coming into the year. I had a lot
of noise that was starting to you know, matriculate out
(01:26:55):
of that out of that program. And once you saw
having those things happen, it's usually not good for your team.
You know, there's a level of success once you started
reaching that and you're consistently good, but you can't get
over the hump. You have guys that start to play
for themselves and start playing for other things, right, And
so that's what I kind of felt about them, and
it's kind of play. It's kind of, you know, been
(01:27:15):
true to form here as we speak, they're seven and six,
they're playing okay football. They're one of those teams that
if they do get hot, they could be they could
be a challenge for a lot of people. But I
see and the other point you made with Dallas playing
so tough, so inconsistent on the road, that's what makes
it hard because if they were at home, I picked
Dallas easily here, but the fact they're on the road
(01:27:36):
in Buffalo. It's gonna be tough, but I'll still take
Dallas to win this game. I just don't think Buffalo
has been consistently good enough to win these type of games.
And I mean there were let's be clear, they had
the ball in Kansas City with less than three minutes left.
Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
I think it was two twenty six total.
Speaker 3 (01:27:55):
They on the clock, They ran six plays, and Kansas
City had the ball back with a minute forty five, right, like,
that's a minute fifty four rather and then that the
play with ka Tony happened with a minute forty five
for four o'clock. So, first of all, there's tons there
was way more time for you to actually win the game,
Kansas City, for all the bitching and moaning that you
were doing.
Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
But still they almost tried to blow that one. Yes,
they almost tried to blow that one.
Speaker 3 (01:28:19):
And I think Sean McDermott probably Oweskadarius Tony an edible
arrangement for lining up all sides, if not a job,
when is his all said and done in Kansas City?
Because I don't know how much longer he'll be out there? Yeah, Hell,
who knows how must longer? Sean McDermot will be out
there because if they lose this game, all of the conversation,
all of the talk. I mean, you remember when that
peace came out by Tyler Dunn, the two thousand word Yeah,
(01:28:43):
I mean essay essentially just excoriating Doug mcderman. It's not
the Dermot Sean McDermott and his whole nine to eleven
jokes and his late game adjustments and how he never
really addressed the thirteen second moment in Kansas City years
ago when Tyreek Hill ran right past Matt Milano in coverage.
Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
Who could have seen that coming? Right, Matt Milana? Who's
hurt right now?
Speaker 3 (01:29:06):
For you know, I mean, they're missing some of the
safeties defensive defensively, I think they've taken a step back.
You had Leslie Fraser talk about the offseason noise, had
Leslie Fraser who said, you know, I'm gonna go ahead
and take some time away. But the thing that triggered
my brain, it's like, wait a minute, Leslie Fraser stepped
away from the team. You know this maybe hell maybe this,
and I wish him the best, but he's still going
(01:29:27):
all the minority coaching symposiums. That doesn't seem like a
guy who doesn't want to coach. Well he wasn't, you
know in the summer, Like that didn't seem like a
guy who didn't want to coach. You wouldn't be going
to those types of things, which the whole point is
to try to get, you know, owners to get their
eyes on minority coaches. Which is right, that's a that's
a conversation for a different segment right now. But still
he was going, right, he was going like, you don't
(01:29:49):
do that if you don't want to coach.
Speaker 2 (01:29:51):
So I agree.
Speaker 3 (01:29:53):
He had Sean McDermott saying the whole deal, Oh, it's
not a big deal that Stefan Diggs isn't in training camp,
or it is a big deal that Stefan Diggers is
a training camp, but we're not sure. Then they canceled
camp the next day, like a lot going on with that.
Then you see Stephan Dickson. You know the last time
Stephan Dicks had one hundred yards in the game?
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
Week four? Week six, click, week six, you know what
week it is now? Its faking, it's late been almost
ten weeks and stuff on. Dis had over one hundred
yards in a game.
Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
Imagine your fantasy team thinking they had to actually bench
Stephan Digs. You would never that doesn't even add up.
But no, I think in this game the Cowboys exercise
some road demons here. They've had some, I mean, and
of the three losses, one of them was to the
Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
That was a bad one.
Speaker 3 (01:30:40):
Who may not even have three wins on the year,
all right, the Cardinals who got three wins on the year.
And then San Francisco just just I mean, just that
type of beating should be illegal.
Speaker 2 (01:30:55):
Yeah, it was bad. It was bad. Yeah, San Francisco,
I mean obviously that was that was a yeah, I
guess they were all bad.
Speaker 5 (01:31:01):
Was who's the other? The third the third loss that
had who's that? Who's Dallas last third loss? It'll come
to me in a minute.
Speaker 2 (01:31:07):
I'll come to you.
Speaker 5 (01:31:07):
Yeah, But no, I think what do you think about
the Dallas situation when it comes to Dak? Right, I
think for a lot of us now in the media,
right we're putting him as the favorite right now Philadelphia
to win the MVP.
Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
It was the Eagles they lost.
Speaker 3 (01:31:24):
But you remember that game, That's the game in which
Dak stepped out of bounds right before the end. Loss
and then Luke Schoonmaker Michigan man just you know, did
quite cross the plane?
Speaker 6 (01:31:34):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:31:36):
Penalty too that they that they didn't call. He was
getting held passing affarens On on the goal line, so yes,
he didn't get in. But yeah, but no, I'm talking
about Dak though in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (01:31:45):
Like what do you see? Do you have him in
your MVP front runner as well? Do you have Okay?
Speaker 5 (01:31:51):
So how big of a game is this for him?
And cementing that playing in Buffalo probably be a bad
weather game or super cold or whatever around this time
in Buffalo, how it usually turns out. It's just one
of those big games for him. Right, It's a huge.
Speaker 3 (01:32:05):
Game for DAK and it's a huge game for McCarthy
cause they have again had their three losses on the road,
but have been cooking and have been one of the
bigger bullies in the NFL. I mean from that Philly
loss they beat the Giants forty nine to seventeen, Panthers
thirty three to ten, the Commander's forty five to ten, right,
(01:32:27):
like they're pounding, guys, They're pounding that team's at home, right,
so you know the Cowboys, depending on how everything shakes out.
Probably will have to go on the road and win
a playoff game or two if they want to get
to where they essentially feel like they should be, which is,
you know, a NFC championship. I think if you're looking
(01:32:48):
at a team right now that is ten and three
through through this, this deep into the season, that's a
team generally, Like I said, like we said to start
the show, if the Lions don't win this game, it's
time to stop taking them seriously right as they are
now currently rolling the Broncos. But you know, a lot
of a lot of game left, right, Hell, the Vikings
were rolling the Bengals earlier today, a lot of game left,
(01:33:11):
that's right. But I think this is this is a
massive game in terms of that. And I think that
Dak Willy quit Himsel will acquit himself well. And this
the key for me is going to be this Dallas
defense is Josh Allen. He's like the stock exchange. He
goes up and he goes down. Right, you can in
full Dallas with their pass rushers should be able to
(01:33:33):
get Josh Allen off track. They can get him off track,
holds him in the pocket, make him, don't let necessarily
let him get out and run superman like like he
did last week in Kansas City where he literally ran over.
Speaker 2 (01:33:45):
Five people on the way to the end zone. Right,
if they can hold strong there, I like Dallas a
ton in this game you do.
Speaker 5 (01:33:53):
That's a lot of ifs, that's a lot of hiss
and I'm saying it from the perspective of Josh Allen
is a mistake waiting to happen usually, and I think
that's the thing nine games right, that's the thing that
happens with him that gets him in trouble, right when
he plays what you said earlier, when he's on track,
and I think that's been the since the change in
(01:34:13):
the offensive coordinator position, They've been having him play on
track a lot. Well, he had the big run last week,
but he's being more decisive with those things and making
it happen. When he gets in that mode of trying
to be superman and make the crazy throws and make
the Patrick Mahome throws that he can make, that's when
he gets in trouble with this Dallas team and the
(01:34:34):
playmakers that they have on that side, on the deepen
side of the ball. If he does that, he's going
to pay, and so I hope, just for the game's
sake as a fan to watch the game, that he
shows up and plays on track, because if he does,
then it'll be a good game.
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
Carey, you remember the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger's last year.
Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
I believe this started out like some ten and one
something like that were there were I think ten and one,
twelve and one some crazy start. The Vikings last year
finished season thirteen and four. Yeah, I think we got
another team like that right now in the NFL team
that you know, their regular season record is really sexy.
Speaker 2 (01:35:11):
But it's a lot of smoking mirrors. We'll get to
that next.

Speaker 3 (01:35:39):
Yeah, but my bad hand up my bed regular role,

If you want to join the conversation, of course, you
(01:36:22):
get hit Fox Sports Radio as well.
Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
Carrie. I wanted to talk to you about this, the
Eagles in the Seahawks game.
Speaker 3 (01:36:30):
Uns.
Speaker 4 (01:36:30):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
No, actually, don't want to go somewhere else. No, no, no,
I'm sorry. I twisted my own self up. I'm gonna
let Steve get to that part. The Eagles in the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Yeah. I think the Eagles are frauds. Bro.
Speaker 3 (01:36:41):
I think when you look at some of his defensive
stats out of the Eagles, I think the Tush push
has kind of ignored their offensive stats. Well, Like they
were the best team last year on sacking the quarterback
on third down, this year they're the worst team this
Jerrus Slay just has sir. He wasn't necessarily playing at
(01:37:02):
big play lay that we saw in Detroit in some
of his first years in Philly. I think when you
look at the Eagles and their strategy of going and getting,
like a guy like Kevin Bayard who Tennessee was willing
to move on from a guy like Shaq Leonard, who
Indianapolis was ready to move on from a guy like
Julio Jones the.
Speaker 2 (01:37:22):
Eagles signed him earlier this year.
Speaker 3 (01:37:24):
I don't I am not a believer in the let's
sign somebody else's vet and bring him in and he's
going to be a difference maker. Jalen Hurts is nicked up,
and I think if you didn't have the brotherly shove
Tush bush or is my favorite from Joy Taylor said
this the booty Scooty, then you would be looking at Scooty,
you'd be looking at this Eagles team in a different light.
(01:37:46):
They should have lost to Buffalo. They end up there's
a rainy, Swindy game that they ended up losing.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
Jake Elliott hit like.
Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
A fifty nine yarder to bang it through to go
ahead and even extend the game. Then Jalen Hurd of
course ran it into the end zone on a QB draw.
But this Eagles team all season, to me, has seemed off.
They did not have seemed like the most very much
like the Kansas City Chiefs have.
Speaker 2 (01:38:13):
They have not seen like the dominant team that they
were last year.
Speaker 3 (01:38:18):
And that was even with Jalen Hurts getting hurt in
that Chicago game and playing really the rest of the
season hurt without we saw in the Super Bowl he
couldn't throw the ball, you know, fifty yards in the year,
sixty yards in the year like most NFL quarterbacks can,
like from their knees. Honestly, but he was well, he
was hurt.
Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
He was hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:38:34):
He had a spray and shoulder, and to me, I
thought he was I thought it was a c joint.
When he went down to Chicago, I was surprised you
were able to finish the season. I thought he was done.
But this year he's still nicked up with his knee
and practice the Eagles to me, just have a weird
vibe around them, even going to the security guard dom
Desanro getting Drake Green loss face.
Speaker 5 (01:38:53):
I know, I know, yeah, No, I'm with you on this.
I've been I've been on that same wagon this season
as well. They've locked up and won a couple of
games here that they should not have won. And even
in the games they were winning here and there, they
weren't convincing. The defense hasn't been as good without Jonathan
Gannon being there and leading that ship. He's in Arizona now.
(01:39:16):
But yeah, it's something about them, man, I mean you
could see that. I mean, obviously my Jets beat them
when they were not good at all during the season, right,
like for them to get a win and kind of,
I guess put them put the league unnoticed. With the
way the Eagles were playing kind of solidified it for me, right,
it was like, Okay, I knew something was wrong, but
(01:39:38):
I don't know what's going on. Then you see a
game like that where they're careless. Jalen Hurst is careless
with the ball, He's throwing the ball around, turning it over.
Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:39:45):
Sean Payton's getting after Russell Wilson here, but yeah, the
Eagles have not been the same team as last year,
and I definitely agree with you on I don't think
they'll be one of the teams that has that teams
have to worry about in the playoffs. I think they'll
play out pretty early.
Speaker 3 (01:40:00):
Team to me feels like the Minnesota Vikings of last year,
who if you've remember, lost the playoff game to the Giants. Yes,
the New York Giants and Daniel Jones and Brian dave
On his first year then was thirteen and four right
and Kirk Couzins on fourth down checked it down to
(01:40:20):
the running back only fourth to thirteen to end this
game and and their season. Yeah, I if Gino Smith
plays in this game, which he's been he's injured as
growing and practiced last week and did not play, and
Drew Locke was a sacrificial lamb out there against the
San Francisco forty nine ers, who have really been beating
the Seahawks since shoot the leasion of Boom. It feels
(01:40:42):
like I think Seattle is in a great spot to
win this game, playing at home.
Speaker 2 (01:40:50):
Twelfth man Eagles have been funny money all year.
Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
I love the Seahawks in this spot what's the spread
for this one plus Seahawks plus three plus three.
Speaker 5 (01:41:02):
I've come from someone who's played against the twelfth Man
quite a bit. When I was with the Jets, we
played him quite quite a bit, and obviously when I
was in Arizona in the same division. It's a tough
place to play. They have a lot to play for
Steel in December. In December, it's tough, man.
Speaker 6 (01:41:18):
But I.
Speaker 5 (01:41:21):
Can't see the Eagles losing this one. Let me rephrase
that I can see them losing this one. I just
don't think they'll lose this one. This is one of
those ones they will sneak.
Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
By and win.
Speaker 5 (01:41:33):
But I'm not scared of the Eagles though I don't
think they're the same team. But I just don't see
them losing this one, though, Steve.
Speaker 3 (01:41:41):
De Sager, something you just had, Sean Payton. As my
dad was saying, wild, harrop Is asked yelling at Russell Wilson,
pointing at him, shouting at him. He was a very
disappointed head coach, bad, bad, bad, What in the hell
is going on in this Denver Detroit game?
Speaker 8 (01:41:56):
They just settled for a short field goal. So final
minute of the third quarter, the Lions lead is twenty
eight to ten over the Denver Broncos. Denver had third
and goal at the one and got stopped for no gain.
Peyton did not challenge the ruling that he was short
of the goal line, so they went forward on fourth
and goal, got in but offensive offside lined up offside,
(01:42:21):
touchdown nullified, and then they settled for the short field goal.
I'll assume that just because the quarterback as the leader
of the offense, he took the brunt of this. But
there was no discussion. There were no two sides of
a conversation, not at all.
Speaker 3 (01:42:35):
Russell Wilson was sitting there like he was sitting in
the corner of a time out man.
Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
It was a time out.
Speaker 8 (01:42:39):
Russell Wilson had a fumble on a strip sack first
play of the first half, and then early third quarter
he did have a touchdown pass, but four touchdown passes
in Detroit for Jared Goff, two to tight end Sam Laporta,
and again twenty eight to ten, Detroit the lead the
Lions trying to go to ten and four on the season.
Lions have lost two of their last three final three
(01:43:00):
games on the schedule at Minnesota, at Dallas and then
host Minnesota. Minnesota lost in overtime at Cincinnati today twenty
seven to twenty four. Nick Mullens two touchdowns, two interceptions,
three hundred three yards passing. Vikings defense had five sacks.
Vikings offense on red zone tds just two for five,
losing in ot SO. Minnesota's lost three of four, and
(01:43:23):
that one win in this stretch the last month was
the three to nothing victory at Las Vegas last Sunday.
Here the Bengals were down seventeen to three after three
quarters and still won in overtime. Today at Indianapolis, Colts
over the Steelers thirty to thirteen. Gardner Minshew with three
touchdown passes. Colts have won five of six. Indy entered
the day one game behind Jacksonville in their division. Steelers
(01:43:45):
had led thirteen to nothing in the second quarter of
this one, and we do have injury news to pass
on ast. Colts running back Zach Moss, who had a
touchdown reception, left with an arm injury. Jonathan Taylor still
out Trace Sermon at seventeen carry eighty eight yards in
the win. Wide receiver Michael Pittman of the Colts four
catches seventy eight yards. He left with a concussion on
(01:44:06):
an illegal hit. The Texans will start quarterback Case Keenum tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:44:10):
CJ.
Speaker 8 (01:44:11):
Stroud is out at Tennessee, still in concussion protocol. As
for college football, couple of bowl games going on right now,
five minutes left in the LA Bowl Ucla leading Boise
State thirty five twenty two, and in Shreeport at the
Independence Bowl, battle of six and six teams going on.
Cal scored in the opening couple of minutes in this game,
but it's now Texas Tech twenty one to fourteen over
(01:44:33):
California with about ten minutes to go in the second quarter.
Earlier Bowl wins for Fresno State and Apple Atchian State,
wins for Ohio U and for Jacksonville State in overtime.
In college hoops in Indianapolis, number three per Due beat
number one ranked Arizona, Number two Kansas narrowly won at
Indiana wins for Houston and Kentucky. And in Detroit, Michigan
(01:44:55):
State beat up number six Baylor eighty eight to sixty four,
the NBA record for most consecutive losses in one season
twenty six. The Detroit Pistons lost their twenty third straight
game tonight. In fact, they lost by thirty two last
night at Philadelphia. They lost by thirty two at Milwaukee
this evening. Philadelphia meanwhile won at six straight game a
(01:45:17):
victory at Charlotte easily. It was one thirty five to
eighty two. Joel Embiid forty two points. I just read
that Joel Embiid has more points than minutes on the
court so far this year. That's how good he's been.
As for the games in progress, Nets are leading at
Golden State ninety nine ninety seven with under nine minutes ago.
Golden State Warriors have a record of ten and fourteen
(01:45:37):
this season. NHL three and a half minutes left. Stars
are tied at Saint Louis three to three. Earlier in
overtime win for the Rangers two to one at Boston.
Toronto won it's game seven nothing over Pittsburgh, repeating the
NFL game in progress. They've ended three quarters at Detroit
Lions twenty eight ten over the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (01:45:56):
Back to you, thanks Steve. Shortly after the show, our
podcast will be going up. If you missed any today's show,

Sports Radio wherever you get YEP you guessed it your podcast.
We also be sure to rate, follow, and review that
same podcast. It search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get
your podcasts, and you'll be able to see this show
(01:46:17):
posted right after we get off the air. I'll tell
you this, Sean Payton was screaming mad, and I get it,
A Hunters and get it because if we just saw
this replay, I'll tweet it out at Martin Weiss. Didn't
seem to me that anybody was off side here. I
don't think we have another Cadarius Tony situation here.
Speaker 2 (01:46:35):
Uh No one looked off started.
Speaker 3 (01:46:36):
I don't know. Carry you tell me, Bud, take a look.
You think anybody was off side? Six second video there?
Everybody looks on side to me. They look pretty onside
to me too. That feels like what I would explain
to the high school football team. This is how you
line up on sides actually in the goal line.
Speaker 2 (01:46:52):
Yeah. I think that's accurate.
Speaker 5 (01:46:53):
Yeah, but why did Why was there so much vitriol
towards Russell Wilson there?
Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
You know, That's what I'm trying to figure out. That
might be one I wish we had the volume up
on this TV because he was a man yeah, he
was a little upset. Who I want to take a
second to touch on the NBA real quick, Steves just
said it. The Pistons twenty three straight losses, Yeah, two
to twenty four overall record. The San Antonio Spurs are
(01:47:19):
four and twenty right now, and the New Orleans Pelicans
are fifteen and eleven. Okay, every summer I gotta hear
about how this guy, he's a can't miss prospectors change
the game, will change the world of basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:47:36):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:47:38):
The last five number one overall picks are Victor Webbinyama,
Paolo Bancaro, Kate Cunningham, Anthony Edwards, and Zion Williamson. In
that list, two of those players, wen Benyama and Cunningham
currently have a combined record of six and forty four.
Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
It if not even Christmas yet.
Speaker 3 (01:48:03):
We are not the Christmas And I don't blame them necessarily,
although I'm sure they showed her a lot of blame
for that. I blame everybody else who is sitting here
talking about how these guys who never played in this
league are gonna walk in and dominate. They won.
Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
I'm sorry. Anthony Edwards looks legit. His team is pretty good.
He's legit. Even them have made what one of us
a playoff series so far as his career won a
playoff series. Haven't even been in the play been in
the playoffs, lost in the first round.
Speaker 3 (01:48:31):
And I'm not even trying to come at anybody like
kill these guys or anything like that. It's more the
eternal hype machine that has the next guy up of
the best guy up, and it drives me nuts. And
now we because there's only one Lebron James, we've only
seen one of them in twenty one years of his
(01:48:51):
career at all. Prior where a guy who's like, you know,
a number one overall pick who walks in and is
the best player on his team from then until year
twenty one, you know what it's saying, Like he's twenty seven,
seven and seven from the moment he graduated high school. Yeah,
we're not gonna find the next one.
Speaker 2 (01:49:11):
You don't think there will never be another one, huh.
Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
No, Just like honestly, there's never been another There will
be another Jordan like there was never There's not another
Kareem who just fell and broke his hip. But I
hope he will cover well yeah right, yeah, But there's
not gonna be another Kareem like there isn't. There are
guys who may remind you of them, there are guys
that may may make you give you the same feeling
when you're watching. But no, it's just we gotta be
(01:49:35):
better with this in the NBA because we don't do
it in the NFL. Trevor Lawrence was the greatest thing
since Slice Bread from his junior year in high school.
Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:49:44):
No, one came in and we're like, oh, you know what,
the Jaguars are winning the Super Bowl in the next
four years. Just wasn't the case. It was not the case.
Speaker 2 (01:49:55):
Jared Golf was the first overall pick.
Speaker 3 (01:49:57):
Nobody will sitting there talking about, oh, well, the ram
there'll be you know what, they'll be rising in the
NFC championship game.
Speaker 5 (01:50:04):
Well yeah, I mean it's that's totally different, though, Mart.
It's that football. You're not going to do that. That's
just not gonna happen. It's just too many moving parts.
Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
I would argue that you're not doing it in basketball either.
Speaker 5 (01:50:15):
Yes, I mean that's to win, to win the NBA
championship in four years To say that with the guy
that's had the talent of a Winbiama right or or
Lebron James right, Like I could see that being said
because of the turnover in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:50:31):
Where where the NFL no one, I don't care who
that one guy.
Speaker 5 (01:50:36):
You're not coming in and changing that organization from being
three and thirteen to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:50:41):
It's just not going to happen.
Speaker 5 (01:50:42):
So the closest that we have seen to it is
Joe Burrow, a guy who's just the Joe Burrow was
twenty four years I mean he was an older kid too.
He wasn't like a guy that's coming in three years
and you know the number one prospect he's twenty one
years old.
Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
Twenty years old. This guy was older. I mean he
was the same made as Lamar Jackson, right.
Speaker 3 (01:51:03):
Yes, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:51:04):
Like, so that's a that's a different thing.
Speaker 5 (01:51:07):
He has a max, he has a competency about him
that you could see him turning around and he did.
Speaker 3 (01:51:13):
But it's just it's to me, it's completely unfair to
build up these guys until they get into the league
and you see what is happening. Because right now, again
the Pistons in the Spurs combined six and forty four yeah,
the Pelicans was Zion. Remember Zion was coming out of Duke. Yes,
(01:51:35):
I do, fifteen and eleven hasn't finished the season healthy yet.
We just got to stop with this whole premature crowning
of guys. Let's let them get there and do it.
I agree, that's my take for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
That is my opinion. All right, So there we go.
Speaker 3 (01:51:50):
I just had to have to touch on it as
we're sitting here on an NFL Saturday. And you know,
I also shout out to Rich Rodriguez and the fighting
Jacksonville State game Cocks who went and won their ball
game today.
Speaker 5 (01:52:01):
Oh, Rich Rodriguez in Jacksonville, Jacksville State, Jacksonville State. Jacksonville
State is Alabama.
Speaker 4 (01:52:06):
I know that.
Speaker 2 (01:52:07):
I know that now.
Speaker 3 (01:52:08):
I just shot No, I mean I did. It was
in Alabama, Jacksonville State. You think jack Wars's got a
college team around there.
Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
No, it's in Alabama. But Jacksonville State.
Speaker 3 (01:52:19):
They petitioned the NAT We're able to play a ball game,
ended up winning.
Speaker 2 (01:52:24):
The New Orleans Bull. Shout out to them.
Speaker 3 (01:52:26):
Uh but yeah, No, speaking of the New Orleans Bull,
Sean Payton he used to coach in New Orleans. I
he that was He's gonna have to answer for that
post game. Yeah, because that was a complete and total
undressing of his quarterback. Just yes, And if Russell Wilson had,
if you had, if it was a different type of guy, Yeah,
(01:52:46):
that would have been a much different There probably would
have been some people separating them.
Speaker 5 (01:52:49):
It's almost like he probably wanted him to say something,
so he could you know what I mean, he can
justify it, Yes, the way you could justify.
Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
He's like, no, you won't hit me, you won't hit me,
you won't hit me. Then finally when he taps you
on the shoulder, you're like, ah, just loses it. But
I mean Sean Payton was going crazy on Russ. Russ
just standing there and I mean honestly taking it, you know,
just taking it. We'll see what matters on the back
end of it. But I mean that wasn't we saw
the video. It's not off size. The referees called the
(01:53:17):
offensive off side, you know. I there have been two
now in primetime games since they called it on Kadarius
Toni and they have not been called. If anybody wants
to put their tenfoil conspiracy hat out, maybe that's on
to something there. But but yeah, let's why don't we
just wait? What did Denny Green say? If you want
to crown them, crown there at well, let me just
(01:53:38):
wait for the crowns for some of these NBA first
overall picks and let them give them opportunity to come
into the league, find their own and develop and maybe,
just maybe they can build the team out of that
and have some success because not everybody is coming in
like we have seen Lebron James come into this league,
and quite honestly, not too many number one.
Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
Overall picks we'll ever have that level well no, no,
no brolling over.
Speaker 5 (01:54:00):
People ever had the level of success ever again, and
we can talk about Lebron, but he struggled too. I
mean he didn't I don't want to say his play stuggle,
but it's team struggled. It's like a long time to well.
Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
The second year they were forty two of forty Yeah,
but I mean yeah, forty two and jump was big,
I mean as far as where they were. But he
didn't win either, so it took him a long time
to do it too.
Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
But I mean twenty three straight losses.
Speaker 2 (01:54:22):
He didn't have that.
Speaker 3 (01:54:23):
I mean, jesuis and thank goodness that the Lakers said
Anthony Davis and Lebron jamesl the Spurs will be staring
down the barrel like twenty one straight losses if that
was the case. Coming up next with other progressive play today,
it's an NFL pick. See how Kerry did he played
the league because he picked the league. Martin and Carey
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 10 (01:54:40):
First down and ten for the Boise he stayed forty
Garber's gonna air down down the right sideline, cut Jay
Michael's starterman in the end zone, touchdown. Do you CLA
what forty yard start of a throw from Ethan Garber's
and U CLA pouring it on Boise State in the
second half and that's gonna do it. UCLA ends the
(01:55:02):
bull drought, their first Bull victory since January of twenty fifteen.
They put together a huge second half and they're able
to stom back and defeat the Mountain West champion Boise
State Broncos thirty five to twenty two.
Speaker 3 (01:55:18):
If that voice sounds familiar, it's because that is Nick
Cope from lear Field, but also from Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
Nick the headshot Cope. That's a good looking fellow right there.

Martin and Keerry Roads, Martin Weis and Kerry Roads coming
to you live from the Tireck dot Com studios, Not Carrie.
I've said it three times now, so I'm gonna do it.
Go ahead, wind up making a good fourth. You played
the game, but can you pick it?
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
We'll see, Brandon, what you got man?
Speaker 3 (01:56:08):
I get smoked last week? I feel like I you
both got smoked last week. One in four for Martin,
hell yeah, five.
Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
For vej hell yeah. I need to know my stats
after this too, So okay, let me know you sent
to me. All right, it sounds good.
Speaker 11 (01:56:20):
So the season totals stand at thirty seven and thirty
four for Martin and VJs thirty two and thirty nine
got you. So let's start week fourteen for our show.
Week fifteen for the NFL, The Buccaneers at the Packers,
Packers favored by three and a half. Will start with Martin.
Speaker 3 (01:56:37):
I'm gonna take the Green Bay Packers here off of
an embarrassing loss to the New York Giants.
Speaker 2 (01:56:42):
I think they bounced back here and beat Tampa.
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
The winner of the NFC South is going to be
getting a participation trigophy in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:56:51):
I like that.
Speaker 7 (01:56:52):
I like that.
Speaker 5 (01:56:52):
I'm gonna also stick with that pick. I'm gonna take
the Packers as well, big bounce back effort. They let
munst up away to the Beato Giants, so I think
they'll bounce back this weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:57:05):
We talked a lot about this game earlier.
Speaker 11 (01:57:07):
The Cowboys at the Bills Bills favored by two at home.
Carrie will start with you.
Speaker 5 (01:57:14):
This is a tough one because I do know how
hard it is to play in Buffalo with this time,
But I'm gonna take the Cowboys here to win this
game and to come out on top. Dak's gonna further
his MVP chatter, and I think that's where we'll go.
Speaker 3 (01:57:30):
I'm riding as well. Bill's been up and down, up
and down. Got saved yesterday last week by an offensive offsides.
I don't think the Cowboys will do that, and if
they do, I'll be sick. Give me the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 11 (01:57:43):
Ravens are getting three and a half on the road
against the Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
Martin, who you got?
Speaker 3 (01:57:49):
Ravens have played some funny games the last few weeks.
I'm gonna go ahead and take Jacksonville here, who just
lost to Cleveland. Cleveland's got a better defense in my
estimation than Jacksonville. My the best defense in the league
in Baltimore might have the best defense in the league.
Speaker 2 (01:58:02):
I'm gonna go ahead take the Jaguars to cover. I
think the Ravens what.
Speaker 3 (01:58:04):
A close one.
Speaker 5 (01:58:06):
Yeah, I will never pick against my Ravens. I'm definitely
coming out with the Ravens on this one. The best
team in AFC. I see the offense clicking the way
that we envisioned with all the weapons, and they're not
gonna stop against Jacksonville. Jacksonville is a team that's a
wishywahie team as well, So I'll take the Ravens.
Speaker 11 (01:58:22):
Our biggest spread of the week forty nine ers on
the road favored by twelve against Carrie's Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (01:58:30):
Carrie, who you got first? In this one?
Speaker 5 (01:58:32):
If it was forty, I take San Francisco. So I'm
gonna take San Francisco twelve here for sure. I mean,
I love my Cardinals. I love my old college teammate,
you know, Jonathan Gannon being the coach there and all
the things that that brings to me.
Speaker 3 (01:58:46):
But yeah, they have no shot against san fran the gambler,
and he hasitate the Cardinals and the points. It's just
too many points. That's the only analysis I have is
just too many points. San Francisco should beat the living
hell out of them. But Kyler Moriot through the back or.
Speaker 11 (01:59:01):
All right, lessender with the Giants and Tommy Davito away
he on on on the road against the Saints. Saints
favor by five and a half in this one, Martin,
who you got?
Speaker 3 (01:59:12):
Woke up this morning and I'm going ahead and take
the Sopranos. Rebake, give me telling me the Vito, the
passing pizon odm be cut, let's a what's going on?
Forget about it? Well, you know what else? Because the
New York New Orleans Saints, you know what they do.
They steak, They steak out loud. Worst coach at quarterback
combination in the NFL right now resides in New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
Just look at the numbers against the spread. Not a
chance give me the Giants.
Speaker 5 (01:59:37):
Well, if you juxtapose those numbers, right, the Saints never cover. Never,
They're gonna cover this weekend. They're gonna beat the Giants.
They're gonna move on and take control of that week
division that they're in right now, and they'll.
Speaker 2 (01:59:53):
Be in first place after tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:59:55):
That's the most disgusting first place you could have, honestly,
the most disgusting first place you can ad That's it, right, that's.
Speaker 2 (02:00:01):
Five all right. You know what, Carrie, we said it
at the start of the show.
Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
If the Lions did not come out and win today,
they were not not to be taken seriously anymore.
Speaker 2 (02:00:12):
Well, guess what we've had.
Speaker 3 (02:00:15):
To pay attention to Detroit because they beat the hell
out the Broncos right now, thirty five to ten.
Speaker 2 (02:00:19):
I think it's the score.
Speaker 3 (02:00:21):
Russell Wilson's got Shawn Peyton losing it on the sidelines.
You know, I saw somebody to this the first time
in the history of football, a team had to settle
for a field goal after scoring three touchdowns that didn't
get called for reviews or offensive all sides or whatever.
But I'm impressed with what I've seen out of Detroit today.
Speaker 5 (02:00:37):
The Lions needed to bounce back, whin they bounced back
really well. Yes, they're in the back in the hunt
for being one of the top two teams out there,
top three. Let's see what happens. Get them into playoffs,
and that's have some fun.
Speaker 4 (02:00:48):
You know.
Speaker 3 (02:00:48):
It's like we said, if they get playing inside, that's
a good one. You know who else would be side
Jason Martin, Aaron Torres. Up next on Fox Sports Radio,
Martin Weiss, Carrie Rhoades. We are out
