Right now, VJ. Michigan the number two team in the
(00:43):
nation and a dog fight down. What is it? I think?
I think eleven points right now the TCU after a
disappointing first half by the Michigan Wolverine to terms of
their ability to run the ball and stop the run.
KeAndre Miller the tennis I mean the TCU running back
goes down early in this second quarter. No problem for TCU.
This has over two hundred forty rushing yards before the
(01:05):
fourth quarter even starts. Forty one thirty Texas Christian, what's
up man? Happy to do year? Everybody was good? Everybody
this is very determined whether they'd be happy New Year.
And I'm sorry and as a as I know this
is a national radio show, but guess what, folks, right
now you're talking to two big time Michigan fans. And
then I'm sorry if you're looking for so if you're
(01:28):
looking for, you know, bias analysis on TCU, I would
do my level best. But right now, if Jim Hardball
blows this thing, that's where I'm at. Go ahead. Everything
is cool, man, It's living point game forty one and thirty.
Can't turn the ball over. That's what's happened in this game.
And hats off the TCU TCS defensive taking two pick sixes.
And J. J. McCarthy has got to be better for
the rest of his game, and he has been. He's
running for a touchdown, had a long run, and then
(01:50):
I should have two touchdown passes. The touchdown they took
away from Wilson in the first half was some straight bs.
But then you can't just it's been two bad calls
on the hob and you know what the other thing
about it, real quick, I don't there were why it
was it was nobody else around. There's nobody else around.
There's no there's not even a need honestly to review
either one of those plays because on naked I was
(02:11):
a touchdown and it was easy. However, Michigan didn't convert one,
converted the other and has just taken the ball exactly
look like a bad exchange. Let's go, like I was saying, relaxed,
just relaxed. No, this game is not going the way
that I thought it would go. I was on with
the great Bernie Freddo and at one am this morning,
and he asked me, VJ. If I wake up tomorrow
morning and Michigan has lost this football game, what would
(02:34):
you tell me happen and how they lost? In my
exact words, if Michigan can't run the football average it
all two fifty a game on the ground, and if J. J.
McCarthy has two or more turnovers, they won't lose this
game or being jeopardy of loss in this game, and
that's what's happened. J. J. McCarthy has two pick six
is Michigan does have three takeaways themselves now, so a
chance to get back in this game. I tweeted earlier
(02:56):
when they were down, everybody just relaxed. But you could
tell it looks a little, dear friend, it looks a
little weird. It doesn't look like the normal Michigan football.
Chris doesn't because the normal Michigan football has been blowing people,
but for the Illinois game exactly. But when you do
get three weeks to plan, and I always say this
about the college football Championship, just bowl games, um, and
in general the bowl season has been outstanding. I've watched
(03:18):
like twelve thirteen of the ball so far outstanding bowl games.
But when you get three weeks to prepare for our
team and and all that time to rest and just
get your legs back and get your body back, it
goes for both teams. But sometimes when you have a
scheme on team is not used to seeing. Michigan is
not used to seeing this three three five defense, and
it's a really good defense, but they're not used to
seeing and the line is not used to being able
(03:39):
to blow off and go find guys down the field.
They're normally able to just meet you right there the
line of scrimmage that dominate you. As they won the
Joe More Award two times in a row. Award has
only been out since two thousand and fifteen. The Michigan
offensive line in the last two years of the war.
But I will still say it's the fourth quarter, it's
an eleven point lead. Everybody relaxed. Michigan is still the
undefeated Michigan Wolverines. But this game now is in J. J.
(04:01):
McCarthy's head. That man, if you're listening to that, and
if you ever hear it this right now to state
your claim as the Michigan Savior quarterback, that people think
that you can be the five start recruit Hardwall's first
five store recruit quarterback at Michigan and go get this game.
(04:22):
I'm not worried, So I'm not all hyped up about it.
I'm not depressed about I'm not upset about. This is football.
It happens. Max Duggan is a Heisman Finals, he was
the runner up. So it isn't like we're playing the
garbage garbage quarterback in the garbage team listen there there.
If they give him the ball on the goal line
in the Big twelve Championship, they probably win that game
against Kansas State, right, and they don't. They decide not
to do that. So this is a guy in the
(04:44):
team that exactly exactly. But at the end of the day,
this is where we are right now, levin point lead,
fifteen minutes to start of the fourth quarter, and we
have the ball, we go down to score. Ladies and gentlemen,
it's a four point football game. That think Didz will
put four D on the board on Michigan if there's
no But it's happening. But let's just worry about what
we got going right now. Everybody chill, three seeds man, cool, calm, collective,
(05:07):
baby relaxed. Yeah, no, I don't operate in that way. Now,
I know you don't. I'm trying to help you, right,
I was explaining to the guys behind the glass. My
fandom is it's honestly, it's terrible, and it's for the
reason why I'm in this business. Because there's no happiness here.
The only happiness comes when the game is over, and
in Michigan is one or my team has won. That's it.
I'm like the Larry David of fans. It's like, either
there's a victory or this is abject disaster. But look,
(05:31):
I just know this. In the first quarter of this game,
there was an opportunity, I feel, to go up fourteen
points and Hardball pretty much quandered it. And uh, we'll
see other and this, let's fifteen minutes plays out, because
maybe he can say what happened in the first quarter
after that. This this is a fumble. This is a fumble.
It's gotta be a fumble that first game back they
(05:51):
said first down, So it is a fumble. Michigan has
the ball now. And like I said, listen, this, Michigan
is gonna win this football game. I'm on airline right now,
Fox Sports Studios, Hi Rack dot Com Studios in Los Angeles, California.
I'm telling y'all at forty one to thirty, Michigan is
gonna win this football game. And this is a test
for them and we'll see how they answer. I'm not
worried at the ball right now. What is that the
twenties seven twenty seven yard line? Watch JJ, go to
(06:15):
watch JJ go to work right here. Go get it,
young man, Go get it. This is what you came for,
this is why you come to Michigan. This is why
you're playing these games. So there's no excuses and there's
no reason to get down blue block, dude, you're supposed
to do. Run to football. Let's go in all seriousness,
all right. So the reason t see uh take here.
This is the team that quite honestly is happy to
(06:36):
get here right now, like Michigan kind of was last
year when they went up against Georgia and saw just
what the college football Playoff was all about. Right now,
TCU is definitely showing that they got the ability. But
also when you got a guy like Max Duggan excuse me,
who singularly is one of the like you know, at
any given moment, one of the best players on the field,
especially at this level of college where there's this inspirity
(06:58):
of talent, they're gonna be able to stay and some
games going forward for four in the red zone huge
for TCU, especially against the defense in Michigan, that was
one of their strengths. As Roman Wilson takes an end
around to oh my lord, the helicopters in the Alway
style into the end zone on an end around run.
You know what, maybe that was on the thing that
we're looking for. Earlier in the game, as Michigan scores
(07:18):
this touchdown, punches it in. Roman Wilson had left the
game earlier with with a wrist injury, came back in
and just punched it in. Sunny Dikes looks upset. Well,
he should be upset because he's gonna lose this football
game after pretty much I don't want to say dominate.
Could it haven't been dominated at the half, Michigan was
leading on the score point on the scoreboard, they were dominating,
and and it's it's there was alright, I'm not here
(07:40):
to make I'm not here to make excuses by any stretch,
but there was a lot of bad officiating that played out,
and it all seemed to play out in TCU's favor, right.
I tweeted, I tweeted, here goes Vega. I tweeted, all,
here goes Vegas with the BS, here go here go Vegas.
Messing around again with the game. But at the end
of the day, when you're Michigan, when you drive down,
you get you get Donovan Edwards with the big run
(08:01):
to start the game right, and then you get down
inside the red zone. I just thought Michigan just got
a little too cute with the with the with the
what's the Eagle special to Philly special special? Run that play.
Don't like that. That's just a bad play call. Keeping
the book. He hasn't worked since Philly. No, no, no,
like once I think one time. I think maybe one
time I've seen it work since Philip got a name
(08:23):
up the shark. But at the end of the day,
just take the three right there. I didn't like going
for it from like the two and a half because
I'm like, if it's that the one inside the one, yea,
get it lined up all the big bring the big hog,
Molly's in the big uglies, bringing the extra tighten like
Michigan and Hardball loves to do, and then pounded in.
But when that saw it was almost at the three,
I'm like, just take the three right here. Just no
need to do this early. And then they get inside
(08:45):
the goal line again because they take a touchdown away
that everybody in America can see. What a touchdown. Even
the commentator said the touchdown. Reece Davis from ESPN a
halftime said, it's exact perfect. I'm not gonna be nice
about it. That was a that was a piece of
very poor of fitiate like that, not one play, just
three or four players in a row where the the officials.
(09:05):
You can't be that bad this type of game at
this level. So we said, with fourteen four minutes, guys,
that go. Everybody relaxed. Michigan is gonna win this football game. Period.
Now you got me high. Unfortunately, unfortunately, we're gonna have
to have a radio for the next three and a
half hour, so you can't drop the mic now, yeah,
(09:28):
because I mean, he's gonna have to pick it back up.
This is what I do. And if I pick it
back up, I'm always man enough to say, Okay, I
got I got I missed on that one. I got
it wrong. There's nothing wrong with getting the wrong. But
I'm not gonna sit here in waffle Michigan. Oh my,
oh my goodness. Yeah. Yeah. See, now he's getting testy.
So let's just recap what just happened. In the first
minute of the fourth quarter. Uh Roman Wilson turns around,
(09:49):
scores a touchdown on the end around. Then Ronnie bell
on another wide receiver type of runner he's drops back.
Tyreek kills Patrick Mahomestyle hands off to Ronnie Bell. Ronnie
Bell with an extra effort to punch there for a
two point conversion. Manchigan kicks it off. Somebody on TCU
kickoff team looked like he hit a Michigan player in
the face. I'm sure if it was a punch or not.
And I'm not calling it like Michigan through maize colored glasses.
(10:11):
That really looked like what happened it should have been.
They did throw a flag, so we'll see what it
looks like. And it looks like, well, it looks like
TCU was backed up a little bit from where they were.
But uh, well, Max Duggan now with the ball fourteen
o six left in the game, forty one to thirty
eight TCU, and we're waiting to see if Max Duxon
is another Heisman moment. But to our to the point,
this is a forty point game and Max Duggan has
(10:33):
less than a hundred and fifty yards passing. It's not
the way you would have drawn it up, if I mean,
I'll put it like this, It's not the way any
of these experts drew it up, except for one guy.
Maybe we give credit to Brian No he did say
that plus seven and a half for TCU was a
gift from God, and I will see if it's gonna
uther to be a cash or a bad beat. Well,
not only that, I'm pretty sure he knew they'd have
two pick six is too right. I just talked to
know earlier this week. Also, that's my guy, man. But
(10:55):
you take like I want to get two pixes. There's
fourteen points on thirteen because they makes the actual point
US thirteen extra points on the board for them right now,
right so that so the spread was correct. Michigan's averaging forty,
they're average forty, so they're both right there where they
should be. But nobody sees two picks six is like
how often you think you're gonna see that in this
type of game, with this level, with these type of
athletes and Michigan's defense. Now it is starting to get
(11:17):
pressure on Max Duggan. Max Dugan also nine of twenty
three guys okay for one seven, a touch and two interceptions.
He's not having a great game. He's not tearing Michigan's
defense up. Michigan is kicking himself in the ask. The
refs have helped a little bit, but I'm that's the lot.
And that's the last to say about the reps, because
I don't like making excuses. All Right, it happens, but
I will say, you can't be a ref and be
(11:38):
that bad on this game. Do that with like Southwest
Louisiana Tech Cooking School versus the New York City Hallmark
Card Making Academy. Do that against that in that game.
You can't do that in this game. Right here. The
stakes are too high, the teams are both too good,
and what's online right now as you see Quentin is
yeah on the mis tackle, you gotta tackle, you gotta wrap.
(12:00):
Been talking to me back and forth again, Max Duck
and this is the second time I believe TCUs scored
a touchdown with Michigan defender in Max dug in his lap,
he hits Quintin Johnson across the middle for what was that?
How long was that? That was way longer than seventies
six yard touchdown? And I'm sorry he was running for
(12:20):
what felt like fifty yards with nobody around him even
in the screen. But here's the right here. You have
to make that tackle. You have to come in, You
have to come in controlled. As a defense, I played dB.
You have to come in and control as a dB.
When you don't, you don't have help behind you. You
cannot come flying up two receivers with that type of ability,
like the Quintin Johnson who people believe it's going to
be a first round traffick in NFL. Once you missed
(12:42):
that tackle, you have no help behind you. There's nobody
behind you. So still right now, ten point game, with
thirteen to go, they're still fine. But you can't make
these type of small mistakes and expect to actually win
and cover the way Michigan has normally won and covered.
I mean that, you know, mac Jugan has not played
well today, I'll say that, but on of what is
(13:04):
he He's got eleven completions, but he has had two
touchdown throws that were high level impressive to me sitting
there with I mean defender in his grill, dropping back
completely off schedule. I mean one of those as soon
as he got to snap, he's got to take off
and go running. But you know, tc you just punched
(13:26):
it in ten point lead for TCU thirty eight. We'll
have more on this game and the rest of the
college football playoff after this. Fox Sports Radio Martin and VJ. Hey,

from the tirect dot com studios. And in the last
five minutes, things have gotten dire from Michigan. If they
don't hold TCU to a field well on this possession,
(14:30):
the odds will be stacked that much more against him.
As a second and nine with eleven thirty five left,
no say game over, Just say that that's what it
would be. They scored touchdown right here. Game ain't no
I'll stack to get him this game. They've got to
hold him to three on this drip. That's holding right there.
They need to call that. But as TCU has driven
the ball down the field after a kick return for
it was a big kick return and then a big
running play and Michigan continues to get gashed on the ground. Well,
(14:54):
here's the third down right here. So third and seven
coming up with eleven just over eleven, tend to go
forty thirty is a tempoint game. You hold them to three,
you're still fine if you give up a touchdown right
here out this game, this is this game is gonna
be over. You've got to stop them at some point.
Your defense has got to dig in and make a
play as they've given up. Well, not forty eight points.
Mine is four team from that from multiple pick six
(15:15):
is our third team because they tc you didn't miss
extra point after one of those big sixes. But ultimately
just comes down to Michigan's ability to run the ball
and stop the run and Michigan one for nine on
third downs. It teach you seven or twelve tell us
a lot of the story right here. Yeah, third down
is always really big man. You know what I mean.
Football one on one run the football, stop to run
your third down conversion rate, turnovers and penalties. Penalties haven't
(15:35):
been a problem today for either team. It's been a
pretty clean football game other than each team turned the
ball over. But I think that's also great players making
great plays, and you're just not always gonna be able
to to uh stop great players, you know what I'm saying.
Sometimes sometimes the other guy is good too. So, like
I said, big third down coming up right here, if
it's a field goal, then it's just a thirteen point game,
so you're still just two touchdowns down. But I do
(15:56):
think somebody else on the officsive side of the ball
other than JJ's gotta make up, Like like you gotta
get the ball to somebody that can just make a
play and say, you know what, give me the football.
Let me go be a hero on this drive right
here and make something happen. And if not, they're gonna
lose the football game. But either or they're still in
it right now. Tc U is uh right now with
thirty seven trying to tuck it in and uh and
(16:16):
score and put this game away. But as the camera
show J J. McCarthy Right here, kids play gutsy. But
I tell you this and this offseason, whether they win
or lose this game, this off season, J J. McCarthy's
really got to get into the lab and get some
of and get his control the way he throws the
ball down sometimes and get his control under order, because
too many times this year I've seen him be out
of control high, left, right, low, just not be accurate.
(16:38):
And I know this. I think that Max Dugan has
earned himself some money in the last month or so.
I mean, obviously he's been playing at a high level
all year, but even with his stat line today, the
way that he has played, and I know this may
sound crazy because TCU is up ten attempting a field
goal to go up thirteen, but he kept them in
(17:00):
this game offensively in a way because again, like I said,
in the second quarter, was a lot of tough calls.
But Max Duggan on certain plays right there's certain blitz
running down in his face, He's able to flip it
out twice. I think, if I'm a pro scout, that's
the type of stuff that I'm looking at, and I'm
liking he's got wills to not necessarily as a running
(17:20):
quarterback in the same way as adjusting fields or Lamar Jackson,
but more along the lines of a Joe Burrow or
Patrick Mahomes. I feel like where he is as the ability.
You think that on maybe third and five, if nobody's open,
you don't hate it when he tucks it and tries
to go get it. Well, listen, I'll give him a
little more props than that. Man. Uh. I would put
him up there with like a Josh Allen. Well, no, no,
(17:42):
because I'm well, I just put the film on it
to you. But he's gonna translate into in the NFL,
Josh Allen is one of the best running quarterbacks in
the league. Well, that doesn't mean that he can't be,
because when I watched him run, he runs like a
running like he runs, he doesn't run like a quarterback.
He's running like a ball carrier. I'll say it like that,
instead of trying to make him a running back our receiver.
He runs like a ball cary. There's certain quarterbacks that
(18:04):
run they still look like a quarterback. When he talks
it and goes, he looks like a guy that knows
he's carrying the ball and lowering his shoulder. He's a big,
thick kid, and you know in the NFL, you're gonna
get on a better weightlifting program, You're gonna hire a
better professional trainer. You're gonna put muscle and put body on.
He's a bigger he's already a big statueus kid. Really
cool story about him though, for people that don't know,
he wasn't even the starter. Guys when the season started,
(18:26):
to see the starting with down open and weak, and
then Max Duggant went in, he walked through the door
of the starting quarterback and he walked all the way
to New York to a uh runner up Heisman type season.
So kudos to him and props to him the way
that he's played. But as far as him translating to
the next level, yeah, I think he'd be a big
time running style when he needs to not a running
(18:46):
quarterback like you said, but when he needs to run
and ain't gonna look like, you know two a type
of lord running and slotting or banging his head against
the ground messing himself up. Are he's gonna look like
a guy that's a ball carry that's looking to lower
his shoulder, not running away from contact, which I think
will be huge for him when he gets in the NFL.
I e like a Josh Allen are big Ben, I
will say, I do not quite understand the decision by
(19:09):
Sunny Dikes on third and seven, as you have a
reeling Michigan defense who run the ball there and just
settled for a field goal. To go from a ten
point lead to a third team point lead. It feels
like the type of move that could allow a team
to come back. Well, not only that, you know what
it feels like. Honestly, it feels like when Dak Prescott
slid inbounds last week when we were doing our show
(19:31):
and that game end. The game ended on a Gardener
mishue and completion in the end zone that had a J.
Brown will come up with the Cowboys and Eagles will
be looking at a whole different a whole different vibe. Well,
not only that it was it was effect It was
a run call. It looked like a run call to
set the ball where the kicker one. It is like,
it didn't even look like an effective run call to
go get yards or trying to pick up the first
down or score. It looked like, Okay, he likes the
(19:54):
ball where it's like the coach goes to him, Hey,
what do you want? The ball kicker tells him where
he wants the ball, and he goes in just kind
of runs and balls down there. That part of it
I don't like. I don't mind a run call. But
if you're gonna run it, run it, don't you know,
don't don't have acid. If you're gonna do it, do it.
But I just if you're gonna get a first if
you're tempting to get the first day, Yeah, to your point,
let's go get the first down, bro like, because I mean, like,
(20:17):
this game had one nail left in the coffin, and
it's tough to say that this team that have scored
up to that point forty eight points was being a
little conservative on that call. But yeah, I mean, the
good thing about points is the only the team with
the most at the end wins the game. So it
doesn't matter how many of your score along the way.
Here's the thing, though, Mark, once again, it's a thirteen
(20:39):
point game. What does it tend about ten minutes left,
nine minutes left. There's still plenty of time left in
his football game. If I'm Michigan, I'll get back to
run ten minutes and two seconds. Run the football. It's okay,
it's only eighten, excuse me, a third team eleven point
game to all point game. Run the football like run
the football. It's okay. You guys do not have to
(21:00):
just dropped back with J. J. McCarthy. But another thing
about running the football, which I don't like, that seem
Michigan do lately. I am not a big fan of
the pistol offense because I'm much rather going to center
and have the ball handed to my running back where
he's got momentum going already tours the offensive line. When
you run the pistol, you hike it, you snap the
(21:21):
quarterback catch and he handed to him. He's got to
kind of start right there. And I've never liked that
from Michigan. And when they went to that this year,
you can see the running game took a little bit
of of a downfall. They're big running plays. If you
go back and look at the clips, guys, go look
at their big running plays late in the year. They're
all from JJ handing from underneath the center. This pistol thing,
(21:41):
I don't. I don't like it. What it drives me
crazy because you watch the Baltimore Rabvens do it for
the like with a thirteen or so a weeks that
Lamar Jackson was healthy. And the thing about the pistol
that like just to go football nerd level right, if
you're under center and you turn around, the defense can't
see the ball they have, they don't know where the
(22:02):
ball is. For the quarterbacks, you know two three seconds,
Oh my, they don't see where the ball is for
the two or three seconds as J. J. McCarthy those
complete plassical second to ten, which causes me to scream
out loud as I'm on the radio. But uh, interesting
grunt you just let out because it's all an effort
to not swear that I was about to say it
sounded like you wanted to say something, but you kept
(22:24):
it in. But to put a pen on my point
before we get to the update, uh we will. Uh.
The defense can't see the ball when they're when you're
coming under center and doing play action and faking handoffs,
when you're in the pifth all the balls right there
and the defense is able to view it. And when
you have dynamic weapons like J. J. McCarthy with his
feet or Lamar Jackson to put a pen on that
point with his feet. That two or three seconds where
(22:47):
the defense is not know where the ball is makes
all the difference in the world. So you know, I
know we've been keeping you up to date on this
Michigan game. Is J. J. McCarthy runs out of bounds
on third and ten. That's amazing. But there's another did
to keep you around with the world of sports and
everything going on in that what's trending right now? Hello, gentlemen,
We've still got another game, another semifinal in college football.
(23:08):
In just over half an hour. It'll kick off in
Atlanta with number one Georgia against Ohio State. In this game,
the Fiesta Bowl. Undefeated Michigan is trailing TCU fifty one
thirty eight, still under nine and a half minutes to go,
plenty of time now. TCU does have two touchdowns on
interception returns tonight, the second of which late third quarter
(23:29):
got him a lead of thirty four sixteen. TCU with
a touchdown and a field goal here in the fourth
quarter to make it fifty one thirty eight. By the way,
just in the third quarter of this Fiesta Bowl, there
were forty four points scored combined Max doug in the
TCU quarterback Heisman finalists, has two touchdown runs, two touchdown passes,
(23:50):
two interceptions thrown. J. J. McCarthy Michigan quarterback. He has
a touchdown run, a touchdown pass, two interceptions thrown. Meanwhile,
Bryce Young for Alabama in a Sugar Bowl victory through
for five touchdowns and three twenty one yards. Top ten
matchup went to Obama over Kansas State forty five to
twenty and at the Music City Bowl it was Iowa
(24:11):
twenty one nothing winners over Kentucky, getting all three touchdowns
in the second quarter, including two interception returns four scores.
Brooklyn Nets in the NBA have won ten straights and
they're leading late first quarter at the Hornets thirty to
twenty two. The earlier game at Indiana went to the Pacers,
edging the Clippers one thirty one to one thirty despite
(24:32):
forty five points from Paul George. To college basketball, most
of the games are final That includes Xavier over number
two Yukon today eighty three to seventy three on Fox TV.
Number five Arizona Gotta Win at Arizona State sixty nine
to sixty. Kansas edged Oklahoma State Texas with a one
point win at Oklahoma, and in the NHL it was
(24:55):
the Capital's at home, winning nine to two over the
Canadians under nine minutes to go. T see you with
the ball up fifty one on Michigan at the Fiesta Bowl.
Back to you, Thanks Steve Martin and VJ coming to
your line from the tirerack dot Com studios. You know VJ.
We're on the radio right now. Pal J standing up
(25:15):
just in itself? Is this vision game hasn't been credibly
stressed out? Doesn't have me stressed out. I just came
because I got the camera on me. Maybe you're not listen.
Whenever I come in, ladies and gentlemen, boys ago, Whenever
I come into the studio, it's always dark in here.
Martin and I always want to know two things. Who
has the mike's turn Who has the speaker turned up
so loud that when we put our headphones in it
blasts our ear drums out one? And who in two?
(25:39):
Who has the lights turned down all seductively and romantically
in the studio. So when I come in, I set
up my camera because I want to do my clips
and do my time, my takes and my stuff I
put out on social media. So I'm always trying to
fix myself, fix my shirt and stuff like that. So
how about how about we not letting it in the
way of the radio. So how about that? No, Well,
you gotta brought us back from commercial. Do your thing, man,
(26:02):
I brought us back from Steve Sager. Steven S. There
you go. Same thing, Wow, same thing. Steve his words
not mine. Yeah, come on, man, his words not mine.
Don't don't don't try to. Don't try to break our
friendship to Stephen said, don't try to break our bond
that Steph and I are building. He said it, not
me anyway. Michigan forces of three and out after a
(26:23):
point seventh thirty left in the UH in the fourth quarter.
Here's les Michigan fifty one and thirty eight. Is I
do a poor Steve impression? You know, I'm the consummate
professional Steve Disager, But yeah, I'm struggling to his ass.
Now you're gonna try to You're gonna try to break
our bond, and then you're gonna suck up to him.
Night man. Nice move, Mark. I see an opportunity when
I when he's presented to me, buddy, I see an
(26:44):
opportunity when it is presented him. Man. Hopefully the Michigan
Wolverines take advantage of the opportunity presented to them, as TCU,
believe it or not, in the second half, has been outscored.
They're not necessarily moving the ball efficiency. It's been a
ton of big plays, but tc u's ability to get
first done, the first down and the first down has
been something that's lacking in this game. And it's the
reason why Michigan still has a puncher's chance in this one.
(27:06):
That's not a punch of chance. They have a chance
there down there, all right, they gotta go score this
drop six left, thirteen point game. They were smart to
punt ball goes Rose all the way inside the five.
They hold them to a three, and now get the
ball back with outstanding field possession. You gotta go score.
You score here with at least four three, four to
three and a half minutes left on the clock. You
(27:26):
still have your time out. Now now you're down six points,
you're this is a football game. You still could get
the ball back and go score win the game. Just
I mean, it's we've seen, I've seen. I'm not gonna
say we I've seen weirder things happen in college, high
school and professional football. With a certain amount of time
left on the cloud, we just sat here and argue
what was it? Was it the greatest comeback or the
(27:48):
greatest downfall, the greatest um choke job ever? Between the
Coats and the Vikings. I'm old enough to remember the
Bills and the Oilers and just in the bowl game
the other day was in Arkansas and kid was the
Arkansas on Kansas. That game was that was game was
crazy ridiculous. So we've seen, we've seen, We've seen, you know,
bigger comes back in stranger things. I myself, I'm still
(28:09):
in that word. But you know what, though, Martin, I
will share this with you man, since I've really become
professional on TV and radio doing sports talk, I'm still
the fan. I am bro, but I don't get as
emotionally involved are as upset as I used to. I
used to take a nap on Sundays if the Dolphins lost,
like the tennis game, Yes, I go take a nap
and I'll dv are the rest of the games. I
don't want to watch no more football. I need to
(28:30):
go reset my football brain. Right now is listening a lout.
She just took me min. She can back that up, man,
she can tweet and back that up. For me, I
would literally go take a nap when the Dolphins lost
the one o'clock well ten a m game. For hair,
I would go take a nap. Bro, I'm not that
guy anymore. So even watching this game right now, it's
more of a shoulder struck, Like, hey, I wanted them
to win. I picked him to win. I wanted to
win the National Championship. But I don't play. I'm not
(28:52):
on the team, so then nothing I can do. So
they gotta do their job. They're the ones. That's they're
They're the ones getting all the n IL money and
stuff and getting the big contracts and go to the
NFL and playing from Michigan. Not me. It's not gonna
upset me. I just want them to come back. It went.
So that's why I stay is optimistic, I guess because
I probably would have been you three four years from now,
come on, this is it right here, and there's a
puncher's chance. This is dire. I would have used those terms. Now,
(29:13):
I'm just like, Bro, Look, I mean six six plus
thirteen point game, let's go. I mean down thirteen with
six minutes left, that they come back, it would be
not the story of the college football playoff like maybe ever.
Well yeah, because these in my final games, maybe ever. Yeah,
So that's I mean, I don't think I don't think
I'm missing the moment here. Okay, well, I don't think
I missing the most watch. I got a big smile
on my face. I'll see Martin east strives. I got
(29:35):
a big smile. Happy new year man. We'll see if
I know that way that it did the last year
with Michigan and Jim Hardball just completely farting down the
pipe with again had at Georgia last year. That was
an embarrassment of a playoff appearance. And then this when
you lose to the biggest underdog ever or not the
(29:55):
longest shot ever. I just said to make the college
Football Playoff in TCU, and they absolutely deserved to either
after what they did in a Big ten. But the
entire country was saying TCU shouldn't been here. We want
to see Alabama. We want to see that. You know
the other teams, uh now that I can't think of
the other one, but it was Alabama that everybody was
pushing to get in this and then this thing was
pretty Mubama because sc SC lost lost the Utah and
(30:17):
people pretty and they got white by Utah. So pretty
much people let that bad go. But there there was
the Alabama. There was the Alabama thing big time. So
when we again, we'll see as Michigan gets the first
down here, six thirty left in the game, thirteen point
thirteen point deficit, Oh my goodness, gracious, Jim, I just
you know, he has an opportunity. He dropped that, he
(30:39):
has an opportunity. Oh wow, Okay, that was a drop
in Michigan. I'd have snapped it to the way the
rest been doing Michigan. I'd have I'd have snapped it too.
But Jim Harbaugh, I honestly think has an opportunity here.
If he somehow comes back and wins this game and
then some wins the national title game, that's legendary statu Yeah,
he's in Lord forever. That's legendary status. So that's kind
(31:01):
of what's on the line here. Like term, I got
a new term for that too, man, especially after what
the MAVs did for dirt. That's I call that. That's
statue type, you know, explicit word. I can't say it
on air, but y'all know that statue type bleep that
means you get as type stuff. Yeah, yeah, stuff. But
I don't want to say stuff. Y'all know the word
(31:21):
I want to say, but what I ain't gonna say
because I'm not allowed to say. But But but that
to me, that that's a statue like you when you
do something like that, that's when Alabama, when Nick Saban retires,
their damn short should be a statue like a fifteen
foot not not like a ten foot seven, like a
fifteen foot statue outside of the Bryan Dinny Stadium. But
(31:43):
the man for the national championships that he won. You
absolutely if Michigan where to come back and win this
game and able to win a national championship and being
a former player and everything there, bro you, he gets
a statue. Dog. I'd say this to uh talking about
saving really quick. As we watched Alabama roll Kansas State.
Whether you're there's some morning or the earlier this afternoon,
(32:03):
remember earlier, this was a down year for Alabama. This
was a down year for Alabama, and I just would
like to show the rest of college football what a
down year from a powerhouse, looks like because Alabama had
a couple of games come down to the wire that
where winds are lost. Remember Texas A and M with
the backup quarterback had him on the ropes. Uh, and
and then you see him. Just go out there and
(32:25):
take in the Big Twelve champion is just handled. Just
handle yeah, just handle. Yeah. Just wipe your hands of them,
you know, go off, Brice Young, We'll see you next.
You'll see uh, We'll see you on Sundays. Thanks for
their memories. It was just, you know, just a masterclass honestly,
and how to handle your business in the year in
which you hit probably none of your expectations. Well once again,
(32:46):
three weeks to prepare for a Kansas Kansas state team
that was that one of the Big Twelve, but wasn't
one of the It wasn't even the best team in
my opinion, one of the top two best teams in
my opinion in the Big twelve. You know, you know,
the divisions are set up and you can get into
the championship games. You win the championship game, okay, there
so be it. But Alabama just still has all the
Jimmy and Joe's and you can do all the xs
and those all you want to make out the adjustments
(33:07):
all you want to you can make adjustments in practice
and watch take if you don't have the Jimmy's and
joes to get on the field those guys and at
one point in the game, they just looked like two
different level of football players, like the Kansas State was
playing at a different speed than Alabama and Alabama was
playing at a different power. Blocking, tackling, the receivers are
(33:28):
to create separation anytime. Brce Young one of the guy
across the middle of one of the slam or he
got the he got whatever he pretty much wanted. And
that's when you get to see how the talent level separates.
And you got to see that with Alabama today. Third
down and uh, it looks like five after a second
down lost by Donovan Edwards Michigan in the red zone.
(33:50):
If they compound this thing in here, chances improved tremendously.
We'll catch you up with it on the next side
of the break. Martin and VJ Fox Sports Radio, Fox
Sports Football Saturday are the VJ coming to your live
for the tire Rack dot Com Studios Michigan. Kicking off
the TCU, and they nailed by the best college football
playoff game probably in college football game playoff history. I
(34:11):
don't think i'm being he's at being Alabama Georgia last
year was good. Alabama Georgia last year, ring go with
the pick six. Now that that was. That was a
good game. That was That was all. It's the top
three at least then, because most of these games have
been uh say that again. Georgia, Oklahoma, George Olama, that
was a good We can't forget what Deshaun Watson did
(34:32):
down there on fourth and two against Alabama the Hunter
renfro for the win with like two seconds left on
the clock on the pick play that they didn't I
didn't remember if that was in the playoff or not.
The national it was a national championship. Alright, top five guys,
I'm sorry, top five you believe that now? Now this
looks like right here, I don't agree with these Okay,
I'm glad they didn't do that. And they were setting
up like they were going to try on all side
(34:53):
and they didn't kick it, and they didn't all smart,
I mean smart, smart to I know how you look
at I don't know about oh I guess that ball
was checking up at the one yard line, so it
looked like the TCU return or needed to go get it.
But it's gonna be first intent TCU through three minutes
fifteen seconds left. Uh, and they have the ball at
the today, I would have let that going to the
(35:15):
end zone. Pal, that's an eleven yards that's so, so
that has to be a first intent from the eleven
three time else from Michigan now, So if they hold
them right here, it tc has the punt, you gotta
believe they're gonna get the ball at least within the
forty five their own forty five yard line. If they
hold them right here, do you want to keep doing this?
You want to do Uncle Vj's corner right now? Actually,
to be honest with you, I want to keep doing
(35:35):
this right now. I want to keep doing this right now.
And if we can fell Uncle Vj's corner and later
in the show we went and if not, we'll bring
it back next week. Guys, don't worry about it. It's here.
I'm trying not to do strict play by play, but
TCUs ran the balls three minutes left in the game,
Michigan down by six and second down now and again
this is the spot where Michigan forces three and out. Well,
(35:57):
that is not what okay, wait, wait, I don't understand
not calling the time out on this play here as
a second down and eight. This is live questioning of
Jim Hardball. So you guys all right now listening, have
a live look into what my couch looks like most saturdays.
As I'm questioning the decision making not to take a
time out three two minutes and thirty five seconds left,
(36:19):
second and eight. Well, the reason why he doesn't right there,
The only that I could think of is they think, okay,
we stop them here and we could use one of
those time outs on offense, so we still have one
left office, which I don't like that ruler. I don't.
I don't like that that frame of thinking at all anyway, too,
So third down coming up here, look like it's gonna
be third and two, third and one possibly, And I
guess they're feeling okay if they pick up a first
(36:39):
down at least one first down, now we'll burn it
three time outs and hold him and get it back
still under a minute with the ball or what have you.
Whatever is thinking is that clock is still running he's
still haven't taken the time out. I can't hear the commentators.
I would love to hear if they're asking him to
burn one of these time outs right here, and I
would have burned the time out. I would have burned
the time out. And looks like TCU, you know, and this,
(37:01):
she's gonna drive me nuts. Okay, tc goes for the
Jalen Hurt sneak. They convert the first down to hike
the ball with four seconds left on the play clock,
which you know, you don't love that if I'm a
TCU fan, But should be a time out, Michigan here
first and ten TCU minute forty five seconds left. I
don't know. The clock keeps running. It's hardball time out?
Is he gonna call a time out now? And now
(37:22):
this right here? We could be watching hardball melt down? Yeah,
he could be. We could be melt right down in
front of us, right ninety seconds left in the game.
Tc you had the ball with three minutes to thirty
five seconds left, and they got that they're in four
Oh my god, what is he doing. He's giving them
(37:42):
a game away. He's giving it, you know what, Jim hardball?
I hope your defense makes a play to save your
ass because this is embarrassing. It's embarrassing for you right now.
You're giving a game away in a once court game.
I got nothing, man, hardball. You lost it right here,
and then he hope you're a minute and seven left,
(38:03):
second down coming up at three thirty. It was three thirty, right,
guys after their first for three. We're gonna talk about
We're gonna talk to you about the music anyway and
during the break. But um, but with three thirty left
on the serious turn this off. I think I think
you would want to call the time out the first
(38:24):
time out right there. Yeah, yeah, I have no idea
what he's thinking. He blew it. He blew it. He
blew it. Did we just watch hardball? We just watched
him blow it on live television. He blew it, Bluey
blew it. You had a chance to win the game,
and you blew it. And you know what else happened?
You're blew it. In the first quarter, running reverses with
(38:46):
the best Russian team in the nation, running the best
running back left and the Dangol Tournament Donovan average, you
got instead of he takes a seventy five yard run
on the first play of the game, and you know what,
let's give him three more touches in the first quarter.
You blew it as Max Dugan drives. Were another time out,
they might get the ball back, And I'll tell you
what if they get the ball back and they forced
a punt on here and somehow Michigan wins this game.
(39:08):
You know, I've been better do exactly as he's done
in every postgame press conference all season and give all
the credit to his players, because he deserves about jack
none of it. Well, uh, that's thirting four coming up,
one or three left on the clock, and and I thought,
I remember, you know, forty five seconds ago, I said,
maybe his thought process is I'm not gonna spend it,
just spending his time out so early. That was they're
(39:30):
showing the touchdown. I don't and I don't care about
none of it in any level. This is a touchdown.
They're showing the replay earlier guys, and showing the Michigan
missqs pretty much, which have could cost him this game.
But I was talking about the timeouts were hardball, and
I thought, Okay, maybe he's thinking if they get one
first down, then we'll start burning them and at least
I can have one left on the offense. But then
(39:51):
once the clock kept taking down to under two minutes,
then it's like, okay, brother, you gotta make it. You
gotta call it a time out right here. So here
was playing right here. Here's the game, guys, one O four,
third and four. Here's the game. This is it right here.
I hope his defense bails them out there down on
there in field goal range. This is It's embarrassing. Fourth
(40:11):
quarter has been coaches in this game is embarrassing. TCU
will not get the first down and coming back on
the other side of this break, maybe this game will
be a conclusion. Who knows? Martin and b J. Fox

Because you blew it. You absolutely blew it for a
team that was the best team and for second best
team in calls football for most of the year, and
(41:18):
you absolutely blew it. Getting too cute. This is what happens, VJ.
They got a whole month to prepare for bowl season,
and instead of sticking when we got you there, you
go run down Ohio State's throat. Who knows what they
doing a couple of minutes. We'll get to them in
a minute, but you run down Ohio State's throat, you
know what? First playing the game, Donovan Evers takes a
seventy yards down the field and you start doing double
(41:39):
reverses in the red zone, and that's how you end
up going two for five, two for six in the
red zone and losing a game to TCU. Hats off
to TCU. We'll get to them in a second. But
you know what this game showed me, VJ. And you
know what's in here thinking about it, because we came
on after a few different TCU games. We saw them
the end of game situations. You know what I'm thinking
of right now, right now, the exactly drill kick off
(42:05):
a field goal rather to beat Baylor in a game
they absolutely had to win, because you know what, if
they did it, the College Football Playoff would have never
ever given him this opportunity. And then I second that
with the the late game strategy and uh in the
Kansas State game in the Big Twelfth Championship. Now mind you,
it was Max Duggan a whole bunch, but you know what,
(42:27):
Sunny Dikes gave him a ton of opportunities to make
a play. And I understand that it's a targeting penalty
right now, but I don't care because it's gonna have
to be a gift from God if this game comes
down Michigan's way. It'll be the worst beat and and
and moneyline history because hard Boy has been a sleep
at the wheel, accepting the middle aged this game with
the eight minutes in the second quarter and the start
(42:48):
of the third quarter has been asleep at the wheel. Yeah,
it's it's surprising, um that I we've sat and watched
live and a coach I like a lot. I love
hard Bob always half man. He when he was a player,
I loved hard ball. He was the first one of
the first professional quarterbacks I ever saw live. My stepdad Glenn,
took me to my first NFL game back in d
C and went watched the Redskins and the Colt so
(43:11):
he was the quarterback there. So I saw him play
live as a kid man. So it's it's it was
really weird to watch the coaching staff and him just
kind of melt down the stretch with the time outs.
And it's gonna be really interesting to see what his
explanation is gonna be. But I was on as I mentioned,
with the great Bernie Fredo last night, and I said,
(43:32):
if they turned the ball over, if J. J. McCarthy
has two or more turnovers there, they would lose this
game or being danger losing this game. But I didn't
think he would because the kid is only thrown three
interceptions all year long. He had turned the ball over.
But not only is it turned the ball over today
he throws two picks, sixes and and also to by
the way, this is this will be his first loss.
(43:53):
J J. McCarthy as a starting quarterback since his sophomore
year in high school. So you know forst loss for him. Uh,
seniors going out today. Guys like, Uh, Morris is a senior.
He just the way he's got to go out. But
Blake Cormus back Donovan's bag. JJ is bad. You can
see j J walking off the field. Uh. Just a
really weird win. And I'll be honest with you, this
(44:13):
isn't hating. I know people are gonna like this part
right here. I'm not about to tip my hat to TCU.
I'm not about to be like, oh, Corret the tc Okay,
that's fine, you can't. I'm not talking about you. I'm
talking about what I'm doing. Corret, the TCU and all
that now in Michigan gave this game away. I ain't
congratulate nobody when another team just gives you the game,
to give you two pick sixes and the rest. And
I don't like mentioning in the rest. And I just
tweeted people that know me. No, I am not a
(44:35):
ref blamer. I do not like blaming reps. But you
cannot have these type of slip ups and these type
of miscalculations, misspotting the ball, miscalls. You can't have this
type of stuff on this level. You've been you've been
assigned to do a huge game. You gotta be on
your best, like you can't met like a firefighter can't
(44:55):
screw up putting out the house fire Like this is.
You have one job. Show up, turn a water on
and put the fire out, like you have to put
the fire up. You're you're an official. Show up. Call
what you see, don't call what you think you see.
And that's what the referees didn't do. They don't call
a trick play with seven minutes left in the first quarter.
You know what the referees didn't do. They did his
(45:16):
sub in a backup linebacker at fullback and handling the
ball with three yards to go. Refre had nothing to
do with that. It was working. Nobody could play when
it was working. I had to go back and look
at it, go back and look at people retweeted me
back and said, you know what, maybe it's a good
idea not to put a linebacker on offense, as I
tweeted when he did it in a game in which
they needed to get the win, he throws a linebacker
(45:38):
fullback pass. I said, you know what, Jim Harbor is
a bleep hole. In that moment, I called him a
blie bowle and I we're on national radio, so I
can't go with it right now, because you know what,
I'm not believing that you're practicing that thirty times a
game in a situation and what you need to win
and you need to execute. He's flying by the seat
of his pants, and you know what, congratulations that you
(45:59):
won the Big ten. Kudos to you, buddy. But you
know what, back to back years all New Year's Eve,
getting your ass kicked, because while this was a much
closer matchup and the most clusters and the most closure
score TCU, for damn Shore, ain't no University of Georgia.
No they're not, but they may be playing for the
national championship. That's right. I forgot. I forgot. I forgot.
(46:21):
They're gonna be playing somebody. They'll be playing somebody the
National title game. The only the only line. Like me
being a comedian twenty plus years, I gotta put a
spin on this. At least I don't have to pay
that seventeen hundred for that championship game and so far,
because I started looking at tickets and I'm like, holy
what the what? What? What? Undred hundred seventeen hundred for
the National Championship game with tickets going as highs fifty
(46:44):
thousand dollars? Do you guys know there were tickets for
the Georgia, Ohio state game that's gonna kick off, actually
just kicked off a minute ago, forty eight thousand dollars
for certain tickets for that game. Man. So that's that's
at least I don't at least I don't have to
spend that money. Um, you know, going to the National
Championship game. I will not be it so five and
everybody could come at me. I listen, I take it.
(47:04):
I talk a lot of trash. I talk a lot
of a lot of junk, so I know I'm gonna
get a lot of it back, but hey, it is
what it is. Thirteen and one, um gotta come back
and do it again next year, and and and try
to get it, try to get it next year. So
um no, I ain't gonna take congratulations of the NOMA.
Congratulations to them because they I mean, I mean, it
doesn't matter at this point. They're they're in the dance.
(47:26):
But I'll say this, the way that TCU, at several
different moments down the stretch of this college football season,
executed in close games is ultimately why I'm like, you
know what, they deserve to be here. They deserve to
be here. And whatever happened happened, now they didn't. I mean,
it's not their fault to to take away credit from
the Max Duggins and and they you know they lose.
(47:49):
Um the starting running back whose name is escaping me
right now, the kid from Inglewood that he dropped early
in the game, continued to run the ball completely, just dominated,
probably finished with over four yards of rushing after when
it's all set and done, had three hundred going into
the Kendre Miller Miller yeh, his family. Congratulations to them.
They'll be walking down the street from Inglewoods wherever they
(48:12):
lift to the sofa stating to watch him and his
horn Frogs take on whoever they see, George or Ohio
State in the national title game. But this to me,
you had a month to prepare for a team that
you are much significantly better than in terms of Michigan,
And congratulations on thirteen because none of it matters. Like
I get it. You beat Ohio State, that's awesome. Ohio
State might go win the title in the year that
(48:33):
you beat them, so your domination state does not matter.
And you gave up fifty one points. I understand McCarthy
didn't play his best game, but you know what, the
entire strategy for Michigan to win games this season has
been limiting the quarterback. And so when he drops back
all these times, I'm sitting and when you start the game, Donovan,
(48:54):
Thatward should have had a hundred fifty rushing yards in
the first quarter. Like in the first quarter, you had
an opportunity, need to go out there and dominate TCU,
and you let him in the game. When you got
a supreme player at quarterback like Max Duggan made just
enough plays to go ahead and win this game. J
J thirty three three ten point four per two touchdowns
(49:15):
long with the fifties quarterback rating point eight. But I'm
gonna point out, with even all the mistakes made by hardball,
even with everything that happened, with calls and replays and
all of that, you cannot throw two pick six is
in a semifinal college playoff football game. You just can't.
And you've been giving the opportunity. Who runs a three
(49:40):
three five stack. There's five defensive backs on the field,
run the damn ball. I gotta hear about how great
this Michigan offensive line is all day and night. I
gotta hear about the Joe More reward winner. And this
is the second time in a year, so you know
what you're doing this two times? This is two times.
This is two times. And then the last day of
December that Joe Moore war winn An offensive line got
(50:02):
it's face kicked in. Yeah, you're right, face kicked in.
After a month to prepare, this ain't no Sabing, This
ain't no Sweeney, This ain't Kirry Smart, that ain't none
of that. When you're looking at Jim Harball people talking
about nothing, that ain't this Because you know what Nick
Saban did with a month prepare, beat the hell out
of the team that took TCU to to beat TCU.
(50:24):
Say they beat him, they beat they beat TCU. So
so miss me with all of that. He barely Ryan Day, Okay,
because know what Ryan Day does, excluding the last two
times beat his rivals. Now, I'm gonna let you have
all that. Man, I can tell him. He's not gonna
sit here and hear about how Nick saban. I mean,
are you know hardball saving Sweeney Na na, no, bron
(50:45):
stop it, stop it. It's like when you're saying hardball
is not still with those guys. I never had horrible
with those guys. I never had horrible with those guys.
You gotta do more than win a big ten once
in a year or once or twice and your seven
year career in Michigan to be considered in that group.
So who's so it is pretty much to you? Is
sabing smart? I put, I'll put even though it's down
(51:08):
right now, it's down right now. But but in terms
of the body of work, the entire resume, yeah, he looks.
He looks great with the Shawn watching the Trevor Lawrence.
So go get a quarterback, Go get a quarterback, then, Jim,
go get a quarterback. I don't think that Nick Saban
will be tearing it up right now if you're that
Bryce Young. But you know what he got, Bryce freaking Young,
get a quarterback recruited to us. This is recruiting Jackson
(51:30):
State that you mean Jackson's why why the young go
to Colorado? Because he can go get the guys. He
all got to coach them guys up right here, right now,
go get somebody. This is n I l. We got
the biggest endowment and in college sports. The people who
admitted Google went to Michigan. You're telling me he kept
that five million dollars little quarterback? Why is arcs man
and going to Texas? The people that invented Google Michigan.
(51:51):
I did not know you have the biggest endowments and
in the Big Ten. I did not ridiculous that Michigan
just would like to win instead of actually going forth
and going and doing things like Alabama and Clemson and
even even if even a Texas saying them, you know
what they did this year in the off season. They
spent a whole hell of a lot of money trying
to be competitive and it didn't work out. But you
(52:12):
know what they did. They tried. That's fine, running back
and get your heads kicked in next December thirty one. Oh,
that's what they're gonna have to do. J J comes back,
Blake Korn's back, Donovan Edwards is back, some of them,
see your guys have gone. So I know this hurts
for them. And like I said, I've I've I've done
well and separated myself from that fan. I wasn't just
looking at the game. I hardball is gonna take a killing,
(52:34):
and he should. But I'm still gonna be the guy
that says, yeah, I get all of that, and I'm
and nothing you're saying is wrong, Martin. Everything you're saying
is right. There's nothing that you're saying that I'm gonna
disagree with. But I know everybody's gonna have their certain
different takes from it, and me myself and I once again,
as I told Bernie last night, if Michigan hadn't win
this game, there were two things that we're gonna look to.
(52:54):
Could they run the football? And did j J. McCarthy
turn the ball? And I like j J. I do,
But I've tweeted back and this is back to September.
You guys can go see September, October November. I was
I was adamant of saying he's gotta be better for
us to win the national championship. I know he's better
than k MC in the mirror, but he's gonna have
to be better than what he's shown for Michigan to
win the national championship. He's and in today even with
(53:17):
the stats and the numbers. I just read you guys
just today once again, the two pick six is they're
they're just huge, turn the ball over hurts. But when
that Jim Harbor is a quarterback whisper and I told
he was a quarterback guru. That's point at Josh Johnson.
He's been in fifteen NFL teams because Jim Harball founded. Well,
let me ask you this thing. So do you think j. J.
(53:38):
McCarthy has gotten better this year? You think, okay, so
you think he's the same guy. I think he's the
same guy that we started. And that's part of the issue,
because you know what happens in big games. You're need
gonna need the quarterback who isn't has an outsized importance
in this sport to make big plays. He's gonna have
to make one or two or three or four off
(53:59):
schedule play in order to keep your team in it.
Sometimes when you can't manufacture running yards, when you're old
lineman lose, you need a dynamic person back there because
you know what happened on the other side. Old line
lost two different times on Max Duggan, and you know
what he did, drop back slung its side arms, one
to Quentin Johnson and the other one, I can't remember
(54:19):
who caught the ball, but it turned in the thirteen points. Yeah,
that's that was. The other one was a slant. Was
a slant pass to Jordan Hudson. Was Jordan Hudson, And
that one was actually just he's backing up, backing up,
he feels he's just waiting for that route to cross,
and it's the same one that Quinton Johnson ran. They
take the receiver from the right and they run them
across the field and they basically just crossed their receivers.
Hopefully the defensive backs get kind of hung up in
(54:40):
the safety gets hung up, you miss a tackle and
then you could take off downfield. The one that Jordan
Hudson was was a lot shorter, I think, probably like
a six yard touchdown. But the one that Quintin Johnson
was a six yard touchdown in terms of the yardage
of the line of scrimmage, but Duncan had to drop back.
Things happen. You're right, right, and you know what you had.
Jack Jay McCarthy had a nice, a nice run where
(55:02):
he's getting rushed and he ends up getting flushed and
he turns it into positive yards almost scores a touchdown.
But we need more of that. You need more of that,
especially in a game in which I mean, you want
to be a running team like Michigan purports yourself to
look like Georgia. We're gonna see Georgia coming up. That's
what they want to They want to essentially win the
same way. You're running the ball, you're playing good run defense,
(55:22):
and your quarterback makes every so often a play to
the wide receiver, play to the time the most importantly
to convert the first down if it's third and seven, right,
That's how Michigan wants to play. And it's the thing is,
you're gonna have to get better at quarterback. And here's
the secret that you don't want to talk about. Jim Hardball.
You delete Andrew Luck out of football history, and Colin
Kaepernick we didn't have to delete him. They deleted everybody else,
(55:43):
deleted him out of football history. You show me the
guy that that Jim Hardball has gotten a twenty plus
years a head coaching, that was a Dyna Dynamall quarterback.
And really it just really quick sprites. I can die
cares one fifteen five point to a carry. So I'm
with you with you that you should definitely been running
the football. So I I think you and I are
both right. You want to blame Hardball. I'm looking at
(56:04):
JJ's pick sexus and I think and I think and
I think we're both part of the reason why J. J.
McCarthy had the ball to thorns because he didn't put
the ball in the hands of his best offensive player,
who secretly was probably the second best offensive player all
season with Donovan Edwards Baking backing up Blake core and
we wouldn't want to hide. And if he didn't get
hurt and team ran for three hunting freaking yards, guess
Ohio state. Fox Sports Radio Martin and VJ More coming

egg dot Com. VJ seems as if in the commercial
break you came around to where I was on this
Michigan TCU Momenta relations to TCU but just an ultimate
meltdown by Jim Harball, and I'm gonna try to walk
away from it. I'm gonna try to put it in
the review mirror. As we're sitting here and watching Ohio
State and Georgia take on start Test, Tesson been at
(57:08):
twenty seven and three as a starter like life, like
I've always have. You sitting here and watched the one
and the four seeds in the college football playoff kick
off two minutes into the game, I would say this
about hardball. I've always been a hardball fan. Anybody knows me, No,
I'm a hardball what they like to have to term
I hate in this industry. Oh, I'm gonna apologist, not
an apology. I apologize for the guy. I like the guy.
(57:30):
You don't have to like him. I like the guy
I've always have. But I just I did just tweet that.
I can't believe I just watched Jim Hardball melt down
in front of the world in a huge moment like that,
dot dot dot like wow, because I'm actually shocked. I'm
really truly sitting in the studio right now and I'm shocked.
I I'm almost you hear me's like stuttering like I
(57:53):
I don't know what to say. I really don't, because
it's so clear you call the time out, like that's
so clear there, that's what you do. You don't wait
to get the first down. See if they get the
first down, then start, do you know? Burn him down?
Time is your best friend. And when they got the
ball back, it's fifty eight seconds left on the clock
on the twenty eight yard line, when no timeouts left,
(58:14):
and now you're just saying, okay, j J, go take
us seventy one yards and win the game because we're
down six. We're not even in range for Moody. So
I I am truly come into your side a little
bit that I'm gonna I'm gonna hang a lot of
this at his feet, but I do want to do
one thing. I want to watch this presser later tonight.
I'll find it. It will be online some linkers somewhere.
I want to hear his explanation for the Philly special
(58:38):
call and for the timeouts. I want to hear what
he says. If he spent some BS, then I'm then
then real talk. I'm gonna text you. I'm gonna text you.
If he spent some BS, I'm gonna then I'm I'm
gonna light them up. I'm I'm going to light him up,
but I will I'm gonna withhold a little bit of
(58:59):
Maria action. I want to hear what his thinking was,
and I know anybody what the matter was thinking was
you should have been going. I get that, But I
want to give the man a chance to tell me
and tell everybody, because somebody's gonna go. Did you ever
think about taking your time out early? With three thirty
one left on the clock when they got the ball back,
just say more time? I got. Now, if he man's
(59:21):
up and says I blew it, you know what I'm
would do? I said, you know what, damn it that's
why I liked the guy. And I'm saying that's why
I like the guy. Now he goes I blew this.
I I totally let this team down. You just said
it yourself, very very eloquently. I might say he the
only adult, the man a dote out there, and he
let those kids down. And the last part of your
statement said those players deserve better. I one agree with
(59:45):
that sentiment. They absolutely do. And you know what, they
picked him up at times this year too, Like that
Illinois game wasn't his best play. It wasn't, but you
know what they did. They went out one. But this
is Maryland Maryland two back in September exailing game, and
I was saying, this is the thing about about this
bowl season, and it's not necessarily bowl season as it
(01:00:06):
used to be, but it's still bowls season and and
and going forward will be playoff season. This is where
it matters who the head guy is. Okay, this is it.
You got a month to get ready, this is it.
This is the March madness of college football all season long.
(01:00:26):
If you got the Jimmy's and the Joes are the
Jamal and Deandre's for that point, Okay, then you'll be
able to go out there and just run your stuff.
All you gotta do is worry about what you're doing,
and then when you get to these other high level competitions,
you're gonna have to do something different. I'm gonna tell
(01:00:49):
you why you're pulling me to your side a little
bit because of that analogy you just use right there,
the March Madness analogy and the analogy, and you're right,
Michigan is good enough over the last two years, the
really just go out and between September and November just
run their stuff. You should be able to run. That's
what that's what they do. R po boom, Yeah, exactly,
(01:01:12):
You're you're right. Listen, I'm agreed with you. I give
you that. That's true. And when you do have a
month to prepare, you have to you have to outprepare
the other team. If you're talented to be that guy
and you're towed to be that coach. And once again
there's three five thing and you get five defensive backs
on the field. I get it, but it looks last
(01:01:35):
year I thought they were totally unprepared. And even though
today that they put up forty five points, there were
still aspects of today's game. I can go back and
look and say, yeah, they didn't look like they were
prepared for that. And you're right. That goes back to coaching.
And also you're also right on the point. This is
where you make your money. You don't make your money
between November, September and November. Some schools, Yeah, but Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, USC,
(01:02:06):
Penn State. You make those contracts, those contracts we see
these coaches getting. You make those contracts in December and January.
You don't make those contracts in September to November. So
I I do want to point that out. You're pulling me.
You're pulling me a little bit, you really are, because
during the break you you mentioned March madness. I'm like, yeah,
you are kind of right. Why don't we love tom
Ezo so much? Tomzo can lose six or seven regular
(01:02:28):
season games, right, but you know in March, you better
you better lace them Jordan's and Kobe's up when you
play Michigan State, and you better box out because they
lead the nation and rebounding right there with Carolina. You
better get on the glass. They're gonna do that win
you games, whether they win or lose. The Michigan State, right,
(01:02:48):
They're not gonna win a title every single year, and
in fact, they've had a couple of first round bounces recently.
But when you watch them in March, it ain't like
Calipari where it's like Calipari, look, you better anything Davis
and John Wall all right, right, you better have the
highest level of talent in that situation. Its ob Zion
(01:03:09):
Williamson and Duke in the Elite eight and where people
were like, oh yeah, Duke's gonna win national championship. Is
on with and I had a game plan for Zion,
and he had a game plan for the Shooters, and
they beat Duke in the Elite eight. So I'm not
going I'm not going a nerd level here. I'm not
trying to go nerd football. They got a three three
five that means there's three down linemen, three linebackers, and
(01:03:33):
the rest are defensive backs. You gotta come out there
in twenty one. You need two tight ends and you
know what, guess what, Michigan the best two player, one
of the twin the best pass couch of the team
are Lovelace and uh and spoon Maker schoonmaker right knocked
out of today's game. But it's the point of the matter.
How were we not running twenty one personnel out here?
(01:03:55):
Why are we got three wide sets four wide sets
against four or five defensive back The way that Michigan
has gone undefeated is by running the ball. Hardball lost
the moment he got too cute, and it was evident
in the first quarter, evident at the end of the
game as he damn near tried to end the game
with three time outs left. But let me, actually, I'm sorry,
(01:04:15):
asked me on the other side of the Because believe
it or not, there is another college football playoff game
going on. I promise, I promise you. We will talk
about it in just a moment with Steve. What's going
on in how today Georgia and the rest of the
sports world. Well, we've got the two semifinals for college
football and they're underway at the Peach Bowl. Number one,
Georgia scoreless against Ohio State under ten minutes to go
in the first quarter. Georgia has missed to forty seven
(01:04:37):
yard field goal attempt on its first drive. Earlier, TCU
eliminated Michigan, which had been thirteen and oh to win
the Fiesta Bowl. TCU will be in the National Championship
Game January nine in l A, a week from Monday.
Hornfrog scored two touchdowns on interception returns in this game.
In fact, TCU had three touchdowns in the third quarter
(01:04:59):
and took at the i'm a lead of forty one
to twenty two. The Athletic pointing out that today from
the Big Ten, Michigan had over five hundred yards of offense,
scored forty five points and lost. Iowa had about two
hundred yards, not a single third down conversion, and one
by twenty one. Iowa took the Music City Bowl twenty
one nothing over Kentucky Sugar Bowl. Alabama defeated Kansas State
(01:05:21):
forty five to twenty. Bryce Young five touchdown passes. Arizona
Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will miss Tomorrow's game at
Atlanta with a knee injury. The Chargers activated edge rusher
Joey Bosa off injured reserve. The l A Chargers waved
running back Sony Michelle and activated running back Larry Rountree.
In the NBA today, Indiana edge the Clippers one thirty
(01:05:43):
one to one thirty Paul George forty five points in
the loss. Currently, Dallas is leading late third quarter at
San Antonio four Luca Dons its thirty eight points and
eight assists. So far, Brooklyn's won ten games in a
row and the Nets are winning mid third quarter at
Charlotte seventy three to sixty five. Among the earlier college
basketball games, number twenty two Zavier at home beat number
(01:06:06):
two Yukon eight three, seventy three Kansas and Arizona with
wins Texas and Iowa State as well. At home, the
Cyclones beat number twelve Baylor seventy seven to sixty two
victories for Kentucky and New Mexico, and the NHL Washington
nine to two over Montreal. Buffalo beat Boston and overtime
four to three. Back to you, thanks, Stephen. In the
(01:06:28):
middle of Terrup dates, c J. Stroud rudely interrupting you
as Marvin Harrison catches a touchdown pass right so as
you are wrapping up there, Ohio State leaves now six
to nothing, extra point pending, and VJ. You know, I
honestly I believe this. Prior to the game, and a
lot of it, I had tied Michigan and on the
other side of it. But I think Ohio State is
going to give Georgia a great game. I thought that.
(01:06:50):
I think that people were kind of penciling Georgia into
the championship thing. I thought Ohio State was gonna give
them a little bit of hell for it. And C. J.
Stroud just connects with Marvin Harrison Jr. For six early
in the first quarter. Well, I I felt that they
could hang with him. I don't know if they'll win
this game. I still don't think that they will. Still
George is a ten point at ten point in better
football team. But if you do not get pressure on C. S.
(01:07:10):
Trold And they sacked him twice in the first drive
right so they were able to get to him. But
on that past play right there, he got out of
the plockt avoided the rush, finds Marvin Harrison Jr. Which end. Listen,
My Michigan love is strong. But I always tell people
you you're not a real sports fan. In my book
that if you can't admit that someone from your rival
is good like you, you suck like that serious. I
don't want to talk sports with you. Get the hell
(01:07:31):
out of my face and don't talk to me. I
don't want to talk to you. Ohio State has always
had a few guys that I always like, like Terry Glenn,
Eddie George. I played against Eddie George in high school
with the Fork Union. I was at Fishburg Military Academy
and Virginia. I was a sophomore, he was a senior.
I played against Eddie George. Eddie George one of those
got Sewan Springs was another buck Eye h that I
always liked the respect that and Troy smithic quarterback. I
love that kid. I used to really proof for him
(01:07:53):
with the Ravens that he would be able to get
the starting job there or at least somewhere else in
the NFL. But this Marvin Harrison junior kid, he's different man,
this kid, and it's weird, right because his dad's this
little guy and he and he berthed and raised and
and prepped this monster, this monster physique did son of
his who can run, catch, run routes, great hands, great feet,
(01:08:18):
big powerful runs through tackles. And right now he got
open off of I think that was Ringold and it
was either Ringo or Starts that was covering them there
in the back of the ends of I was Alo
s having a nothing Ohio State and it wouldn't surprise
me if they gave him a game. But I gotta
just stick to my guns, man. I don't like the waiver,
and I thought Georgia was a ten point to touchdown
ten point the two touchdown favorite better than them, So
(01:08:38):
I'll stick with that's only seven nothing is earlier. But
if they don't get the CJ, they don't get to him,
they could be in trouble. Well, yes, you're right, and
that's part of the reason why I kind of liked
the Ohouse if they were able to keep CJ upright. Yeah,
this the Ohio State is an issue. Okay, that's really
all that happened. And when Michigan played him, State just
(01:08:58):
couldn't win up front, and and they got to the
c J and Harrison Jr. And the rest of the
past catchers weren't able to him. Northwestern got to him.
There were a few teams that were able to get
to him, and we saw when you don't get to
this kid though, fifty fifty six and they scored sixty one. Guy,
I mean they put up some some crazy numbers. I
(01:09:19):
did not know this until right now, shooting what we
got in the third quarter. We were on the radio
as I'm you know, cursing Jim Harbaugh and you're saying,
it's okay, this is gonna win this game. Robert Griffin
the third, his wife went into labor. He gets a
phone call standing on the sidelines. He's at the game,
doing the game. His wife goes into labor. He runs
(01:09:42):
out of the of the stadium on his way to
presumably to be by her side. So congratulations to the
Griffins and hopefully that works out, you know that hopefully
get into in my head. I'm digging, but I'm assuming.
I guess he was part of the network pregame because
he was already Okay, he's part of the pregame because
what he didn't call the game? The game with Sean
(01:10:03):
mcdonna and black Ledge. Those are two gentlemen that called
the game. So he wann't on him to call. And
when he calls, he works for Mark Davis anyway, so
he want on the call. But I'm thinking what would
he be doing there? But maybe he's just there representing
the Big twelve because he was a bailing one. He
looks like he's at work, work in some form of fact, something.
I don't know what he's doing, but congratulations to the
(01:10:23):
Griffins and hopefully yeah, well, congratulations to anybody bringing a
baby into the world. Yes, congratulations, congratulations Robert. Now back
to the disaster at hand. I don't even know why
I made a rundown last night. We didn't know this
is going to go this way. Man, Wow, this is listen.
Let me okay, so let me ask what I was
(01:10:43):
what I actually during during uh mrs the Sakers update?
How does this happen? Though? Like I want to really know,
like how does a player fumble the basketball? Like, dude,
you've been doing this all your life. It's down the stretches,
three seconds on the clock, and you're like, how as
a coach, you're not even out there? Is it the pressure?
Is it the pressure for hardball to win? Is it?
(01:11:03):
How do you fumble this away the way Hardball did?
I think that's a legitimate question in your opinion, like
how does this happen? I just ultimately think that the
moment got too big, And that doesn't mean that the
moment will always be too big. That doesn't mean that
he couldn't have recovered from because I think he did
(01:11:24):
do a good job of bouncing back. You saw the
way they came out to start the third quarter after halftime,
right the way that Michigan came out to start the
third quarter. I scored thirty nine points in the second
half exactly. So I think you know what ended up happening.
You get a monster prepared. I think you get some
paralysis by analysis, especially if you're one of these teams
(01:11:44):
like I believe Michigan is, where you're not necessarily concerned
with what the other team is going to do. You're
more concerned with running your stuff effectively. Right, So I
think what ends up happening is you haven't made adjustments
all here. You know, you haven't made too many adjustments
all here. You're in and I get that. You know
you want to keep Kaye mcnamary in the fold, but
you know you're not. You're splitting uh summer reps with
(01:12:06):
with your starting quarterback instead of getting the guy who
you know ultimately is going to be the guy. You're
playing it cute and you know, I mean, ultimately, what
good did it do you? I mean, you know, I
think that's what it boils down to a lot of
the times, is trying to be a little cute with it,
Like how that's how it's just the word right there,
that's how I use that word too. They got a
little cute on the goal, that's how. That's how you
(01:12:28):
end up we have a month to prepare, which is
how you end up doing a double reverse with seven
yards to go for a touchdown. Right, because because you've
been doing it on video and doing it on paper,
you know, since Thanksgiving break essentially, right, since that, they
have to thank and to me because it's like, what
are you doing running a trick play in the first
(01:12:52):
quarter on the first drive the defense you just even
in the first quarter the trick play. What's the goal
of a trick play? Right? The goal first goal of
all plays get the ball into open space using misdirection
by the right, by some form of fashion, right, either
power or misdirection. That's why I have the books have
the plays are called power or misdirection on Madden. You
know what I'm saying, that's all that's the whole running
(01:13:12):
through people are running away from people and the walls
to advance the ball forward. So but in the first quarter,
the defense hasn't even done anything yet to trigger like okay, oh,
you know what this this this safety is creeping down
into the box. We can get him on this or
he's crashing down every play action passed, it's a perfect
time to hit him with the double reverse. Are they're
(01:13:33):
not crying? You know what I'm saying. The safeties are
backing way off or the corners are backing way off
as soon as I put a guy in motion. Okay,
so let's run off of this play and to do
it in the first in the first fifteen plays and
your scripted plays, like, what are you doing that to me?
That's what it is, and it's I don't want to
say it's uh an ego driven thing, but I do
(01:13:55):
think there's some of the where can I put my
imprint on this game? Where can I put my imprint
on this game? Instead of just going and pounding the rock,
I would have just taken the threat tweeted, just take
the three. It's early. Take the three. Leano your defense.
You know you can get down here. You'll get back
down there again. Once again. It scored forty five points,
so you know they con put points on the board.
But the word cute keeps coming up. Desmond Howard said
(01:14:16):
at the halftime, you're used as a few times. I've
seen people on Twitter and trying to get too cute,
and you're right when you get too cute even though
the full back handoff, why do you line them up
so close? Like too much can happen when a guy's
trying to turn, and also like why is it a
backup linebacker? Why is that your You know? Anyway? Martin

But you know what I'm ready for right now. Yes,
(01:15:19):
that's a nice little Uncle v J's corner. Let's do it, man,
Let's do it. Man. Where's my where's where everybody gather around?
It's that time of the week. Oh man, it's that
time of the day. I've been telling you all. Man, Yes,
it's time for everyone's favorite uncle. And you add the
cherry on the top. It's time for Uncle v J's Corner. Yes, sir,
(01:15:46):
Everybody's favorite uncle, Uncle v Uncle v J and thebuilty Man.
Everybody comes sit over. Here's a little rainy r in
l A. But I gotta tend up. So y'all come
sit over here on the corner of a big and
vanilla and I want to tell y'all a little story. Man.
You guys always know how I feel about being a
vanilla brother the week. You gotta always um exhibit the
three CS Cool Comic Collective. That is not what Jim
(01:16:07):
Harbaugh did today. But this ain't about him. I want
to switch speeds over to the NBA. This week, and
I want to give a shot out man and give
the Vanilla Brother the week war two two gentlemen that
I think are carrying the league right now because the
NBA has been awful. It's horrible, guys. The number one
defense in the NBA gives up one oh eight a night,
one o seven, one o eight a night. You see
(01:16:27):
these scores one thirty one one two one one thirty.
No one's rebounded, no one's boxing out. But there are
two gentlemen that have displayed the three cs of being
a Vanilla brother. One of them was an all world
Mr Everything coming out of high school. Everybody wanted the
man and he ended up going to Duke. The man
was so explosive he blew out his shoe. You've never
(01:16:49):
seen that before. The man out his damn shoot. But
through the injuries, through the jokes, through the way, through
all the stuff going down there Orleans, that brothers stayed
cool and calm, Keith smiling and his three sixty wind
mill dunk that piste off the Phoenix Suns was outstanding.
The other night, fourteen points in the last what's and
(01:17:10):
a half minutes to bring his team back for another win.
The other gentleman. I want to flip it back to
there's a video I'll running right now where he was
playing against Russell Westbrook when he was sixteen years old
for Real Madrid. How cool is this? Is not only
that if you do the background check on that team,
because they they created a put that team together to
start to groom young men like him because people saw
(01:17:32):
it coming. And these two gentlemen have been carrying the NBA.
I don't know if y'all been watching. NBA's just not
a good product right now. But I will watch the
Dallas Mavericks any night of the week. I will watch
the New Orleans Pelicans any night of the week. Everybody
keeps saying, who's the next star? Who's the next star? Kauai,
the Lebrons is older? Is it? Is it? Is it?
Devin Booker He's the next Kobe? Isn't Jayson Tatum? Is it? Yhannest?
(01:17:55):
And I love yoh honest, I do love Yannes. But
Yanna saying carrying, He doing his day, but he ain't
carrying like Luca and like Zion Williamson are pretty much
carry in the NBA right now. Even Jayson Tatum, I
just mentioned Jayson Tatum. But we know what Boston's gonna do. Boston,
Boston gonna do they thing we aren't no Basson gonna do.
But we don't know what Dallas is gonna do. We
(01:18:16):
don't know what the Pelicans are gonna do. But we
know as long as you got these two gentlemen, you
have fire words galore. Forty three points the other night
from Zion. Excuse me? Did Luca just have the first
ever sixty twenty triple double and n b A history. Yeah,
that's the same lead that Wild Chamberlain playing in. Michael Jordan,
Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Magic Johnson, all the triple double guys,
(01:18:39):
all the big scoring guys, they never did what Well West,
They never did what this man just did the other night.
So I'm telling y'all, man, both these guys still stay cool. Listen.
Luca might shut me up because I'm still halfway in
and halfway out on it, because I don't like him
coming in and out of shape, and I think he
wants and cries a little too much from my like
and I need my best player to be my mentally
(01:18:59):
tough player on my team, and I'm not sure that's him.
That's also been my knock of Joel Embiid. But this week, man,
I'm gonna tip my hat and put all the negative
away and get positively and we're going into three. Giving
these two gentlemen props. Mr Luca don Chich and Mr
Zion Williamson. Thank you for making the NBA watchable for
me at this point in the twenty three season. You
(01:19:21):
two gentlemen are the Vanilla brothers of the week week week,
and I would say to add into that. Okay, how
about this number one pick, Zion Williamson, a top to
Western conference right now? Number two pick John Moran had
had pretty good playoffs success so far in his career,
right Luca don just bawling Trey Young, the guy who
(01:19:42):
got traded for him. He's seen the year's conference finals before.
We've seen a lot in the history of the NBA
busts in the top three pick member Anthony Bennett, Remember
Anthony Bennett. You know what I'm saying. There's a there's
a lot more we have seen. The young talent in
this league has balled out recently, and I'll tell you
what it's not. It's a good thing to see as

C J. Strouds running right now, third down, coming in
a tie game. This just looks like the c J.
Stroud and Marvin Harrison Jr. Show. It's gonna have to
be that because he can't really get the ball to
anybody else. They don't have They don't have a Agan Henderson,
the big stud running back, and another running back got
hurt also too. A few weeks ago or not a
(01:21:05):
few weeks ago. They haven't played in three weeks, but
I think it like the tenth or eleventh game and lost.
Another running back was banging up, so they had a
freshman come in even against Michigan, had to get some
running down. But it just looks like C. J. Stroud
just needs to find Marvin Harrison. We just saw the
big run catch a running had just a minute ago
where he made three Georgia not one, not too but
three Georgia defenders who are all gonna be in the NFL.
Look just simply foolish. I mean this, this kid is
(01:21:28):
just a different type of animal. If I'm not mistaken,
he has to come back because there are people that
have him on Heisman Watch for next season. So I
think he has to come back. As there's a past
interference against Georgia Indian zone on third down, which is
now gonna put the ball at the one game tope
seven seven twelve forty one left between the boat outs
and the Ohio State. You know what, I can't say
(01:21:50):
that word on like damn, I'm coming across a lot
of words that I can't say. Well, you know, as
we said there, I know it's college football playoff and
it is New Year's Eve, yes, but is fast approaching.
And with that, there's a whole slate of NFL football
right down the docket. And I mean, we want to
talk about games that have major impact. Right this is
(01:22:11):
this is right here. I was thinking about this these
two weeks are what are the last two weeks or
what the NBA, which is they could do in this
regular season because we're talking about teams in week eighteen, Well,
they may have to rest guys, it won't matter because
it comes down to the division and making the playoffs. Well,
we are here in the home stretch right now of
the end f L. Now what game tomorrow interests you
(01:22:35):
the most? We can jump into that first, all right, No, man,
I'm today m and they're showing it out here in
l As. I don't have to watch on the internet
Dolphins at the Patriots. Man, even though I don't have
any I have zero faith and Teddy Bridgewater because I'm
only going by what I'm seeing. I'm not being an
irrational or negative fan, as they can say on Twitter,
fans are negative. No, I watched the guy play. You
watch them play too, Like when the last time he
(01:22:56):
wants something that meant something or look like an NFL
starting quarterback going up to New England and going against Belichick,
who's great against quarterbacks, is just a great defensive mine
type coach just really worries me is where my mind is.
And then of course the Seattle in the Jets game,
because that that's all tied into the NFC. It's give
me the a f C East. But the number one
game for me is my beloved Miami Dolphins going up
(01:23:18):
the Fox Broke tomorrow in a m out here in
l A. I think that the Patriots pass for us
has success against the Dolphins. I would like the Patriots
a lot more in this game if Marcus Jones was
going to play. Yeah, Marcus Jones, who, first of all,
uh Pro Bowl snub Pro Bowl snobs as a special
team I don't care. Still an award and you can
(01:23:40):
still get snubbed. So Pro Bowl snubbed. Marcus Jones probably
should have made it as as the Patriot offensive weapon
and kick returner that he's one of a huge reason
why they scored points in general, So that gives me
cause for concern. Um, it doesn't look like mac Jones
got the quarter of the offensive courting that we said
(01:24:00):
he would need for Christmas. Looks like that might be
a little late still with Patricia and uh and uh
what he still sucks to it though, I mean, but
I know he's got but he's ultimately ultimately like there's
a lot of professional and competence happening in Foxborough. Um.
But yeah. So so to get back to the other
game though, the Jets and the Seahawks. I'm sorry, guys,
(01:24:24):
Mike White. It is not the second Coming they think.
So you know what it is to me. You know
what this is to me, Mike White, is when other
than Michigan for like ten years, right, and you would
leave from Michigan in the wintertime and go somewhere that
was a little bit warm, right yeah, no, no, no, no, no,
(01:24:47):
not even I'm not talking about even down. So maybe
you go to like d C, for example, Right, the
hell is still cold in DC because you got somewhere
that's got something to do in Washington, d C. Right,
But it's warmer in d C than it is in Michigan. Right,
Like like like my girlfriend's family was out here for Christmas,
and you know they're like, oh my gosh, it's so
nice out. It's so warm out where they from there
(01:25:10):
in Michigan. They're from Michigan, so they flew out Christmas.
So they're like, oh my gosh, it's so nice, so
nice and so beautiful. However, me and my girlfriend sitting
here and hoodies because it's sixty degrees outside in December,
which to arrest of America doesn't sound very cold, but
if you live in l A, you might as well
have frost bite on your fingers. For real, what was
(01:25:31):
eighty degrees in Christmas? So it wasn't it was? And
I was. All I'm saying is Mike White as an
l A l A winter. Okay, yeah, you still want
to jacket. You still don't want to jacket. You may
not have a candidate goose or you know what I'm
saying that the uh triple fat goose. If you're my age,
(01:25:55):
I'm telling my age now. I don't know if you
guys remember that. You remember triple fat goose. That's all
you baby. Ye. Maybe you don't have all that not
wearing your snow shoes. Maybe maybe you don't have to
eat the car up before you get in it. But
it's still the one of time in New York from
Mike White in the New York Jets, who essentially is
(01:26:16):
ultimately a backup quarterback in a great position because the
starter it's not a quarterback at all. Well, the quarterback
that I'm more interested in this game is this This
could be Geno's game to knock the Jets out of
the playoffs. You know he said they all wrote a lot. Yeah,
they all wrote them all. This is where they were.
He didn't write him back. This is where they were writing,
(01:26:38):
back page in the New York p Yeah, this is
where they were writing. So this is this is this
was the The attention that got to me on this
game was like, hold up, Gino got dragged. Oh wow, yeah,
Gino gets a chance to go back at the team
that gave up on him after drafting him and at
the back end of the first round are i think
it was the top end of the second round, but
(01:26:58):
and knocked them out of the plub that if the
Jets lose, they're out of the playoffs. So this this
was that was the more interesting thing for me. And
the Jets have to fly all the way out there.
They're already there, of course tonight being Saturday night, but
that's just a long trip to make, and East coast
teams just don't farewell flying all the way west, and
West coast teams just don't farewell, uh mathematically wise, flying
(01:27:21):
all the way back east and playing that one am start,
that once one pm start, because that's a ten am
start for us out here, and your body is just
not it's just not there. So another one I'll throw
at you too, man is Vikings and Packers. It's this line.
And I know this isn't at but the idea that
(01:27:42):
the Minnesota Viking double digit wins scored thirty five points
and a half even if the other team was taking
still thirty five points and a half are somehow giving
points to Aaron Rodgers and the Ackers three three and
a half depending on where are your shop. The draft
(01:28:03):
Kings has a three right now. And and I'm sorry,
I'm not a Miami Dolphins fan. I'm not. I am
ambivalent on the Miami Dolphins. I don't care if they
win nor lose. I prefer to if they win because
I like to see Mike McDaniel. He's funnier in a
win than a loss. But that's really my motivation there.
So there's really none, okay, because as you can see,
(01:28:26):
I get I get some pleasure when people loose. But
the fact that the matter is they lost that game
with two got can cussed if and if, I don't know,
they take him out or just stop throwing the ball
and just run, as has been my problem with the
Miami Dolphins over the last pretty much the last four weeks.
(01:28:49):
They were beating Green Bay up and down the field.
Just run the ball, and they win that game even
with two of have in a concussion. Take him out.
Guess what, you probably still win that game. Dan Alexander
of the game and what was a funny post game interview.
But part of the reason why it was so funny,
it's because, oh my god, he's throwing that ball like that,
exactly because it was so bad. I think everybody was though,
(01:29:11):
even myself. I'm just once again, I felt like last
last week watching him throw that ball around like that
on Christmas Day and watching hardball, I feel the same
way as I feel about hardball. Right now, I am
legitimately speechless, which is hard for me to do because
I never shut up. The only trouble I ever got
into as a kid in school, I didn't fight I
didn't skip school. I didn't ditch, I didn't cut out teaching.
(01:29:34):
I talked a lot. I was a talkative kid. I
got in trouble for talk. I am never at a
loss for words. I was truly watching the game and
was like, Okay, what the hell is going on? That
doesn't like what do you see? There's no why are
you there's there's no pressure. You're just throwing to a guy.
You're throwing to the opposite and yeah, I mean give me,
(01:29:54):
you're throwing to the opposite jersey. Like, what the hell
is going on? And then we know we found out
about they could cushion and everything about that. But once again,
if they just run the football, Martin, you know me
and I'd say it over and over again. I don't
care who gets tired of hearing it. Football one on
one and the VJ. Vernon Husky Book of Football, Run
to football, stop the run, start there, starting there. Before
(01:30:15):
you do anything else, run to football, stop the run.
And as a quicker side, I tend to agree with that,
if you can run the football. For one of my
biggest pet peeves is game teams that lose games averaging
five six yards to carry, because if you just handed
the ball back. The math says you would have gotten
another first down. And you know what, you can't lose
if the other team never has the ball, and you
can't lose if you keep getting first you can't lose
(01:30:36):
if you keep getting first downs. It's just it's just inevitable.
It's how the game is structured. And I mean, I
get the passing. It's more sexy and it's more fun
and it's more acting. But and you can get bigger chunks.
But ultimately, this is a massive game of tug of war.
Whether you get one yard, five yards or fifteen yards, ultimately,
what manager is getting ten in three that's the biggest
point of being able to uh, to advance the ball.
(01:30:59):
And Kyle like even like four yards, I see five
is and that's big yar asking for. I've even told
people listen, four yards to carry. You're in third and
two all day, Bro, four yards to carry, You're in
third and two all day long. And you can run
for your first down, bro, to get the like, run
the football. So I'm with you there. My thing the
(01:31:20):
last thing on the Dolphins that I want to touch
on because we'll see Teddy Bridgewater this week after two
I had concussion to uh to you know, it's not
going to be playing, maybe even up for the rest
of the season. We'll see how that plays out going forward.
But I just have to say this, and it seems
as if the NFL is getting better at diagnosing on
field concussions, are seeing on field concussions, But what the
(01:31:40):
hell is the concussion spoder looking at because I'm not
playing second guessing. I'm not saying it like, uh, you know,
it's Monday morning quarterbacking. When I watched two get hit
on that play, I said, his head hit the ground. Now,
did I know he had a concussion? No? I didn't
know that, right, But I watched the replay of the
hit the same way that million other people did on
(01:32:04):
Christmas Day and saw to his head bounce. I don't
know if the custing spotters are watching just the all
eleven tape, I mean all eleven view of the field
from the scoring box or what I'm from the press
box or or coaches box or whatever. But they got
to get somebody watching the TV broadcast because on TV
you could easily see that DeVante Parker was a little
(01:32:24):
woozy coming up off that that play. On Thursday Night football,
and you can see that to h at any at
any regard should have been checked out for the hit
that ended up seemingly concusting because it was evident in
the replay he got his head driven into the ground. Now, Uh,
that's why I was gonna jump right outside and why
you're talking about that Marvin Harrison Jr. Again again? Wow, Man,
(01:32:52):
you put on them to win. Didn't bet on it too?
I bet on Ohio State. I thought, look, here's the thing,
and we're seeing it right here, right now as we
watched the replay of c. J. Stroud avoiding the Georgia pressure,
and let's think about what's set this up. First and first,
first down, Georgia runs, the ball gets stoned. Second down,
(01:33:13):
what happens They dropped back and Stetson Bennett throws an
interception wide open. You had a receiver on a linebacker
on a goal route. If that ball is floated five
more yards up in the air, it's a Georgia touchdown.
It's not. Instead, Ohio State gets the ball and returns
the interception into their own red zone. But the thing
(01:33:33):
of the matter is, it's just like I said with Michigan,
they want to win the game by running the ball
and stopping the run. And sometimes when you get down early,
you have to You're gonna want your quarterback to be
the type of guy that can make second reaction plays.
And with c J. Stroud just did was a fourth
reaction play because he made about three guys missed in
(01:33:55):
the end in the backfield before finding Marvin Harrison Jr.
Opening the back of the end zone. We'll have more
on that game coming up next and on the NFL.

Beast time reviews Today, Man First of all, it's a touchdown.
And I'll be honest, it's like every single one of
them was a touchdown on first site, exactly like you
can see it live. Goodness. Great, this is not what review.
This is not what review was meant to be for.
Every day, every touchdown reviewed all every time everything. Well,
then how do y'all miscalled? If everything is reviewed? There
(01:35:02):
we go. I let myself right into it. If everything's reviewed,
then how the hell do y'all still miscalls? If everything's reviewed? Also?
Quick sidebar and football? Hey, let's get the push the
quarterback play out of football. Let's get that this is
not rugby. If this is rug If this is rugby,
then let's just say, okay, it's rugby, but you you
should not be able to bring a guy in motion
(01:35:23):
and line him up basically with his hands an inch
away from the lower back of the quarterback, so when
he snapps the ball you just push him forward. In college,
high school, pro this offseason, let's please get that's not football.
Let's get that out of football. Please. Isn't it now
that I'm I don't know why this is just coming
to me in this moment, isn't it the bush push. Well, yeah,
(01:35:47):
but they called us. I heard earlier today someone said
something about Philly. I don't know why. They said, Philly
are the ones that do it. Okay, So that's how
Jalen Hurts has converted so many third ones the four
exactly that kind of Uh. It used to be kneel
down formation, but now it's gonna get a first down
for me exactly. But Reggie, Reggie did push Matt Liner
(01:36:08):
into the end zone in South Bend to win that
game against UM against nor To Dame. So yeah, which
was illegal then though. That's the thing because people like
hold on, that's a flag. You can't push another player.
But now you can even hold the guy up and
pull him across the goal line and it's a touchdown,
like they're there's certain things in football. In my opinion,
(01:36:28):
we just got to get out of football because it's
not football, and I think it's an unfair advantage. You're
not stopping any offense on third and one. If I
could just line up behind the quarterback and push him,
You're not. No d line is gonna stop that. Well,
the thing is, I mean it's very hard to do,
so i'd imagine, you know, in terms of figuring out
the way to stop it. And I'm not I'm not
(01:36:51):
trying to say that this is a result. However, we
saw Jalen Hurts get hurt outside of the pocket running
the ball and he got his like from his strange shoulder.
To me, looked very much like the a C joint
that Christian McCaffrey had. Well, that's not to throw the ball,
but you can't throw the ball with that right, Like,
I know that he came out to practice today and
(01:37:12):
Nick Sirianni is going and doing my worst, my least
favorite thing in the world playing games with the injury
report in terms of Jalen Hurts is just beffer that
a quicker side Dick Siri Janni, what are you doing?
You know what? I like that, the reporter asked him.
You know, hey, uh, you know, Jalen Hurts. What's the
deal with this? He heals faster? Is what? Is he
a superhero? And the next Sirianni goes on to say,
(01:37:34):
if you're shooting baskets, he'd be better at it than you.
If he was throwing football. You know, if he's playing baseball,
I'll be better at it than you. If he was
throwing footballs. He'd be better at it than you, So
he's gonna heal faster than you too. That's pretty flawed logic,
because first of all, I would I would hope that
an NFL quarterback, we'll be able to both throw a
baseball and football better than me. Now, you know, have
have Jalen Hurts sit down and interview somebody and write
(01:37:56):
a profile on Let's see how good he does there.
You know what I'm saying. I'm not saying that the
ability to but that's my specialty. All right, Let's have
Jay Hurts coming that holds a three hour radio show.
I bet I do it better he would. Okay, that's
just my specialty, right. You know what I'm saying, I
don't have years and years and years of of warming
up my arm, squatting seven hundred pounds and being to
be a successful professional athlete, right. But I'm just saying,
(01:38:20):
obviously he's got his talents and I've got mine. Right, So,
Nick Sirianni, I'm sorry, I don't think that necessarily means
he's gonna heal from his ac joint that much faster.
I think Nick Sirianna likes to play with the media
and I don't mind it because you have to remember
this too with coaches and making jokes. The injury report
is it's something that is near and oh it's a
near and dear to all of our hearts. Skies like you.
I listen, I got DraftKings up on my screen right now.
(01:38:42):
So this is what we do. Like I watched the
lines on just about everything, alternate lines. I'm trying to
find all types of backdoors to do to make money
and do and play different types of bets. But the
reason why I give coaches slack is because they have
to talk to these people every day. Are almost every day,
(01:39:02):
and I'm pretty sure some people get tiring. Some reporters
are tiring. Some journalists are tired with the way they
ask questions or how smug they try to be. So
then sometimes somebody playing with their mind or playing with
their head or are firing back, are saying something quirky
to me, It just never bothers me because I'm not
in their shoes. And I'm pretty sure it's a lot
(01:39:24):
of it's a lot of people out there that don't
do their job very well. Well, here's a simple as that. Yeah, look,
you make a whole all that money to uh to
coach football, which I mean are you saying to do?
Are you gonna be able to are you gonna go there? Yeah?
They should deal what to deal with it? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah, sorry,
(01:39:45):
you're the highest paid state employee. Deal with it. That's
and that's and there was a little truth to that.
But I do know this your glorify. I mean, we
give a lot of genius credit to guys who are
agreeing out stuff. But like the pe level, right, you know,
like you give a lot of like football like this.
(01:40:05):
These are at the end of the day. You know,
basketball is really a simple game, and coaches and players
sometimes make it a lot more complicated than it has
to be. It really is a simple game. Yeah. So yeah,
so no, I'm sorry, man, if you're gonna be head
coaching this level, then yeah, I'm gonna need you to
answer some questions. You know, I'd like it if you're
(01:40:28):
a decent human being. Sorry, you know that's what I
just said. You see these faces, You hear these voices
every day, and sooner or later they think about it.
We're in December, dude, We're on New Year's Eve. They've
been listening to that same guy he's been Siriana has
been dealing with that same person since July July, six
(01:40:51):
months of So sometimes you can create a good relationship
and sometimes you can create a little leaky relationships or
something you could create a bad relationship. Remember Lebron's comments
to what was it uh a Sola where he asked me,
he goes, aren't you the only he goes, It's just
funny how you only show up with something back that
that was a relationship that was sud You can tell
(01:41:13):
he's got I'm tired of talking to you. There's a
there's a thing about guys who because there there's a
thing about like and Rob Parker has alluded to this movie.
I've never covered a team in the in the way
that he has or had the access that he has.
But the thing is, players do not like it when
it seems as if you're not there all the time,
which I mean, it's fair only there, that's super fair.
(01:41:33):
That's super fair. They're they're every single game. There's like, yo,
if you're gonna criticize me when I lose, that's the
only time I see yours when we lose. So yeah,
it's very it's been very convenient essentially, you know, to
put it into current day terms with me, to be
like if Jim Harbor was saying, where were you the
last five weeks of the season, Well, I was giving
him his flowers and then he yeah where Well, yeah,
(01:41:57):
that's right, Where were you? Mare? I do to show
with you every week. I've never heard you say this
much on the back negativ and about Jim Hardball. So
if I'm Jim Hardball, I'd say that to you and
the heart bet like where were you? Where were you
when I was thirteen to know you show up today
because I blow today? Hey do you know what my
money was on Michigan and win the national title? So
there you go. That's where I was financially invested in
(01:42:20):
you all the way, idiot, all the way back in Damn.
Blew it on the big stage. Blew it on the
biggest stage. And you know what, right now, all these
Michigan administrators are probably praying in their boots, are shaking
in their boots, praying to the guy above if they
watch Ryan Day, go ahead and beat what seems to
(01:42:42):
be the pre eminent team and college football, because if
OI State was the title, guess what the last thousand
days of Michigan football means nothing, nothing at all, Steve
the Sager. What's trending in the world of sports? Veja
will argue with that just a second, but Steve, sorry
a minute late. What's going on? My friends? A State
leading against number one Georgia in Atlanta and the college
(01:43:03):
football Semifinal fourteen now Ohio State had the ball first
tonight and punted on its opening drive, then scored touchdowns
on its next three straight drives. It was seven lead
at the time, fourteen now over Georgia mid second quarter.
In the other semi the Fiesta Bowl win for TCU,
(01:43:23):
eliminating Michigan fifty. Michigan had been thirteen and oh Each
team had three turnovers in this game. Michigan has lost
six straight Bowl games. TCU scored two touchdowns on interception returns.
The Sugar Bowl went to number five Alabama over ninth
rank Kansas State forty five to twenty Bryce Young five
touchdown passes. The Music City Bowl went to Iowa twenty
(01:43:45):
one nothing over Kentucky. In the NBA, Dallas Is just
won by a point at San Antonio one as Luca
Donts had scored fifty one points with nine assists and
no turnovers. Brooklyn won its eleventh eight game one one
oh six at Charlotte as the net shot six from
the floor. Indiana today edge the Clippers onety one, one
(01:44:07):
thirty Paul George forty five points in the loss. In
college basketball, we've got the Big twelve opener at Kansas State,
going to overtime. Kse State eleven and one this year
tied sixty six all against number twenty four ranked West
Virginia today number twenty two, your beat number two Connecticut
eighty three seventy three. Kansas edged Oklahoma State sixty nine
(01:44:30):
sixty seven, Arizona sixty nine sixty winner at Arizona State,
and Texas won seventy to sixty nine at Oklahoma. In
the NHL, Washington nine to over Montreal, Buffalo beat Boston
and overtime four to three, and among the games in
progress two minutes to go, Toronto a six two leader
at Colorado once again. In college football's semifinal in Atlanta,
(01:44:55):
it's Ohio State leading number one Georgia mid second quarter
twenty one to fourteen. C J. Stroud to touchdown passes
to Marvin Harrison Jr. Who has five catches a hundred
six yards in the first quarter and a half back
to you, thanks Steve, and oh my goodness, gracious, look,
we're coming to your life when the Tirack dot Com studios.
(01:45:15):
But Luca Doncheon's, my god, man, last five games, all right?
You ready for his VJ last five games fifty one,
six and ninety six and ten in a game that
went to overtime, right, thirty two, nine and nine, fifty
eight and ten in the last five games. This is
m v P type stuff. This is I mean, took
(01:45:37):
like I mean, and I thing is, Look, they won
that game, but I thought, love one point, they needed
every one of them, They needed everyone on them. And
this is why I gave him, along with Zion Wills,
the Vanilla Brother of the Week and the uncle Vj's
corner seventh early in the show, because he's carrying the
NBA right now, like I, people are gonna I know,
I'm gonna have people balk back at that. Fine, balk
(01:45:57):
all the hell you want. But he put the tape,
put the game games on, guys, put the games in
the tapes on. And you and I were talking during
the break, and you have brought up p two. I
call him P two, My man, Paul Pierce. Luca is
not He's not explosive, he's not fast, he's not quick twitch,
He's not He's one of the slowest guys I've ever
seen in the league that could get to wherever he
(01:46:18):
wants purpose when he wants it, moves with the purpose.
And Paul Pierce is the same way. And guy's our
age know the turn. We call that y MC. That's
old rap, that's old man rap game. There's everybody at
the y m C are everybody in l a fitness
everybody twin for our fitness or whatever. Jim, you're gonna
play outdoor course, indoor course. There's always a dude that's
like in his early in the mid forties, right, he
(01:46:39):
got all black sneakers and black socks because that's the
era he comes from. And he's don't jump higher than
nobody there. He ain't faster than nobody there. But he
stay on the court and he's stay on the winning team.
And when you get to know him, you start to
pick him up when you go into the gym. Mr Jimmy,
Mr John Uh. Some people just got here, just called
me to see there. I'm just see him just big
(01:47:01):
see old man, see o G. I call him o G.
But there's always a guy in the gym. Man with
that old man red game, you can't do nothing with.
While you're trying to and want him to death, he
taking you straight back to the A B eight days
and it's working you. That's the type of game that
Luca has. Impressive man eighteen and nineteen, six and ten
from three nine and fifteen. Now I'm trying to figure
(01:47:22):
out how you know, why are you missing six free throws?
But and that would be that would be it. That
would be nitpicking. But a plus A plus seven man
with fifty one anyway, Quick updates from the world of
college football. Well, first, let's go to the last game.
Robert R. G three update. Made a Southwest flight to
get home. Hold on baby Daddy's coming. Hold on he
(01:47:42):
got on with. I was about to say the hell up,
hold up, no, hell no, hell no. I just have
to say. It looks like God is shot off. If
he know he's trolling, ain't no way in hell he's
on the Southwest flight. After everything I just heard and
seeing about Southwest over the last week, are they back
up and running? I saw a report that looks like
Friday would be there back their day of kind of
getting back to normal operations. But I just said a
(01:48:05):
sports talk friend who was a journalist of a female
friend of mine. Right now, she stranded in Denver. She's
been there for four days. She can't get out. My
father was in l A for longer than expected due
to some of the Wow. But you know what, r
G three looks like he's on the way out. And
that's hilarious. That's in. Benett from Georgia just punched in
a What is that about? A six four yard touchdown run? Uh?
(01:48:27):
Four yard touchdown run to tie the game at least
I think I believe it's twenty one to twenty extra
point pending. Now the Bulldogs back in this thing with
the black eyes. But how are they doing it? Running
the football they just had and the guy and they
should have scored? Uh? I think was McIntosh broke open
and was out running all of the O High State
(01:48:47):
defenders and tripped and failed over the turf. The turf
monster got him. He tripped and failed at like the
six or the five yard line. He was gonna score.
So back to running in football, which Georgia does which
I thought they would be able to do very lead.
I guess they Ohio State defense man, and they've already
got I want to say, maybe a buck, twenty buck, ten,
I'll look it up really quick on the ground right
now already, so this one. So it feels like that
(01:49:11):
they're they've kind of got their wits about them. But
fourteen unanswered the tie back up after it was seven,
and you and I sitting here, I'm scratching my head.
You you put money on them, so you'd love to
see the twenty one and seven. But right now we're
saying that, so the head scratcher was earlier today as uh,
you know Jim Harbor in the Michigan Wolverines. Completely just
(01:49:32):
give it up. I mean, if you google this, this
is a fun story. I google Jim Harball, right, just
like I'm on the radio. Why not just see what's
going on. I see an article right here in the
top story section of Google. You know, you got the
Google thing, and they'll pop up with the Wikipedia paid first,
then they'll go top stories. Right, it's a nice little
boxing four bam bam, bam bam. Okay, ms N ms
(01:49:55):
N Football World just shocked by Jim Harball's decision four
hours ago. I look at VJ. It's a live blog
for the first quarter, the first quarter. It's a live
blog from the first quarter. Football world is shocked by
Jeff Hardball's decision that was on fifteen minutes into the
game and said, it's already over it. That just goes
to show you just how much he choked it down,
(01:50:18):
Just how much he choked it down. Had fifty yards
on the first play from scrimmage, and then guess I'm
into that in the next seven VJ uh sixteen, sixteen
yards in the next seven place fifty four yards on
the first play, sixteen on his next seven. Georgia has
(01:50:40):
a hundred and five yards rushing just to anybody counting,
you know, running the football. McIntosh was back. I was
right on that fifty two yards camper for him. Ohio
State only has ten yards on twelve cares that as
a zero point eight average. And I'm telling you, guys,
they they better be able to run a football. If
they think c J. Strous is just gonna now draw
back for the rest of this game and we're sitting
(01:51:02):
one at market in the second quarter, If they think
that he's just gonna be able to sit back and
just pick them apart. I think they need to start
running as they just tried and third and one and
got stuffed. He did not get it, so they got
a punt and they're gonna get the ball back to
the Bulldogs with five twelve the clock running clock right
now in the second quarter. But back to hardball, just
(01:51:22):
just again. Um, I'm sitting here. I was on Twitter
during the break too. It's bad, like it's bad. People
are and people are fast, people are quick, people are
they want answers and and I tell you this, I'm
pretty sure you talk about the biggest of domind and
the money and stuff behind those closed doors. I guarantee
you some of those money, some of those billionaires and
multimillionaires and been you know money people that make things
(01:51:45):
happen in college sports on every campus. Okay, and ain't
just Michigan. I'm a realist. Okay, it happens everywhere. They
want answers, dude, I'm I'm pretty sure some people are like, listen, bro,
you can't get here twice like this and have Last
year they couldn't even score what was it, thirty to
thirty five or eleven or thirty three to eleven. This
year you put up forty five points. But you just
the mistakes, just the coaching mistakes. And even during the break,
(01:52:08):
Brandon and Chris come in the studio and we're staying
there talking and I looked at both of Fasi, dude,
I'm being honest with you, I'm really speechless. I don't
have I don't know what to say. I because it's
almost like where you're throwing the damn game. This is
this is simple left on the clock. After they run
that one, that first run play, call a time out, Brandon,
(01:52:29):
our producer here. Today's also to say, well, maybe he's
thinking what you said. You know, Okay, so I'll save one.
We'll stop him on second down. Then I'll burn too
for second and third and then I got one on
the office when I get them. Okay, that's fine, that's
a great strategy. But to just sit there and the
camera pants who his dad His dad stands up in
the stands, and it's like call a time out, and
(01:52:52):
that that's we're sitting here watching and I'm saying, he's
not calling like you were trying to say. He's doing this,
he's doing that, And what did I tell you in
the moment said he's blowing it. He's blowing it right now,
we're sitting here watching him melt down. You know what again,
bull season in football is March madness and basketball, right,
that's where you're coaching matters. That's where it comes down.
(01:53:14):
And because listen, these kids are generally, except for Stetson
Bennett left than twenty two years old, right, exactly, sets
can run a car. But the in general, the idea is,
these guys are kids. You need an adult in the room.
And what you know, the hardballs bull record moves to
today one in six, one in six, Miss me with Saban, sweetie,
(01:53:40):
because you know what, Nick Saban, doesn't it down here?
Beat the big twelve champion alright, alright, forget that, alright,
you know what Ryan Day does. Alright, coming there in
the first half and it's hanging with the number one
team in the nation. Alright, miss me. With all of that,
we'll get to the NFL picks coming up new Martin
(01:54:00):
and VJ Fox Sports Radio. Martin and VJ Fox Sports Radio,
coming to you live from the tire Rack dot Com
studios right now. Georgia Stetson Bennett two minutes left in
the second quarter. As he's driving down the field, George
is in the red zone fourth downs. Looks like Georgia
will attempt the field goal coming up here the five
(01:54:22):
minutes left of the show. VIJI, there he is, all right,
there he is. I was wondering if he was gonna
planning on coming for the last five minutes. But now
that he's here, let's do the pis alright, let's go.
We get some NFL type of music behind here. Thank
you all? Are you guys ready? All right? So we
got the Dolphins at the Patriots. Patriots are favored by
(01:54:44):
two and a half. I'm going with the New England
Patriots here in this one. I like the Patriots prior
to to of being ruled out. I just think this
defense is gonna give him troubles. But VJ, what you got?
They got no shot man. I don't trust Teddy bridge Water,
which really makes me upset. Twenty one fantasy leads I
got in the seventeen playoffs. I'm in nine championships and
(01:55:06):
two of the was the quarterback on six of those teams,
along with Waddle and Hill. I just don't if Teddy
wins this game, I'm totally surprised. Man, give me the
Patriots here. Twenty one fantasy teams is what you should
be upset about, Brandon, what's the next game? I'm nice? Alright,
huge playoff implications in this. When we got the Jets
at the Seahawks, Jets are favored by a point and
a half. Look, they're talking about Mike White like he's
(01:55:27):
the second coming of Joe Naman Willis Reid. If we're
talking about these old New York athletes coming back to
save the day, this is not Peyton Manning stepping new
away save you from brock Oswidler and the playoff run. Alright,
give me Gino and all the people. He ain't right
back yet. Uh yeah, give me the Seahawks and give
me Gino two. I just don't believe in the Jets.
(01:55:48):
I think the Jets had a window, and I think
all this stuff with Zach Wilson is crowded. Uh and
it kind of been a distraction crowd at the minds
of those players there. So give me. Give me Seattle here.
That's hard for him to fly all the way out
west eyes and and take that game. Give me Seattle here.
I think Seattle covers. Also, you guys mentioned this one
a little earlier in the show, but we got the
Vikings at the Packers. Packers favorite in this one by
(01:56:11):
by three, even though the Vikings are twelve and three
this season. Look, I get the sports books have been
disrespecting the Minnesota Vikings the entire year, and now what
Aaron Rodgers going to take my money out of my
pocket because I'm going with the Vikings right here. Look,
the Packers, this whole uh fairytale about the way they
make the postseason, I'm not buying it. This team is
(01:56:33):
not a playoff team. They haven't been a playoff team
all year, and if they back in it's gonna be
because of a massive Minnesota implosion, which I don't think
it's gonna happen. If this game was in Minnesota, I
would agree with you, But something's telling me and I'm
with you. I'm not on the whole uh. The Packers
get in. Watch out for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers get in.
Christian Watson has also been banged up and hurt lately
(01:56:53):
also to for some reason, they don't want to run
the ball with Aaron Jonds have no reason why why
they're not doing that. They've give in Dylan more the
carries there. But but give me the Packers at home
in Lambeau and Nicole once again it was in Minnesota
with them different. But I do think they win this,
but I don't think they're gonna make this big push
in the playoffs, as I agree with you there. But
give me the Packers and winners game against the Vikings,
all right, believe it or not, we have a big
(01:57:14):
game against two teams with a losing record, could have
it could be for the division. At the end of
the day, Panthers at the Buccaneers. Bucks are favored in
this one by three and a half. I well know
that this is a major, major game. I'm so sick
of this toim birdie team, I'm going with the Panthers
to cover. But you know what's going to happen. The
(01:57:34):
Buccaneers win this game in the last second field goal
and win the division, and all of a sudden, I'm
disgusted because it's a horrible, horrible football team with the
decent quarterback in time Brady top fifteen. Still you guys
are tripping saying he's done. But the Buccaneers as terrible,
but they're gonna win this game, Panthers covered. The only
thing the Tampa has done this year has won me
fifteen wings from Martin with our our Atlanta and our
Tampa Bay winning in division. But I I've been wrong
(01:57:57):
on Tampa four out of last five weeks, and I'm
not gonna do it again this week. Carolina is gonna
go into Tampa, guys and beat the Buccaneers and send
Tom out of Tampa. I think this is his last
two weeks that he plays for the Buccaneers. He's wearing
a new uniform. Give me Carolina uh in this game
at Tampa tomorrow. Brown's that commander is another big one
(01:58:18):
for NFC playoff implications. Commanders are favored in this one
by two. It's wild man. You know, they said, what's
the problem in Washington, Rhyn He said, quarterback. You know
what he did, He bets the quarterback. Well, four weeks
later he ran back to the same guy. So you know,
I'll play it like this, Ron Rivera, you better make
the damn playoffs playing musical chairs with your quarterbacks like this.
(01:58:42):
I get the Taylor Heineke there's a backup quarterback overwhelmingly
and that the Commanders didn't score twenty points with them barely,
but dude, you were right there. They got him win
this game. Yeah, I'm giving this. I'm giving this one
to Washington. I think Cleveland's done. DeShawn just needs a
whole He needs to just get to the off season
and get back there just worrying about football with all
(01:59:02):
the stuff that he's had to go through. Uh and
that he's got to go through. I say I was
gonna say that, but said you jumped in. I'm a
stick with mine and I'll let you with the Washington.
Washington will get this right here, they'll get this one.
I love the way rob Rivera has this team prepared
running the wall. Also to Brian Robinson, the icate fro
him that got shot earlier from Alabama. Hand him to football,
throw the McLaren they'll be fine, all right. Last one
(01:59:24):
builds at the Bengals, favored by a point and a half.
I tell you, man, I want to take Cincinnati on this,
but I just I just like Josh Allen's makeup. I
really do. And I think on the road when they
need him to make some runs and make some plays,
they'll be able to do. So they don't run the
football below again for the fourth year in a row.
So so give me Buffalo here. I don't know what makeup, eyeliner, lipstick,
(01:59:46):
Josh Allen to be wearing, but he'll be drawing in
the shape of an L. Cincinnati is going to win
this game. Martin VJ, FOXS New Years, Everybody ball
