Speaker 1 (00:00):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio. That's right, Martin

Tirac dot com. We'll help you get there with an
unmatched election fast free shipping, free road adds to protection
over ten thousand recommending this dollars tirac dot com the
way tire buying should be vjer this weekend, All right,

(00:23):
I should say this Thursday and Friday of the week
that we just had. Those are the two singular days
of the three hundred and sixty five day calendar that
told me, as a conflicted twenty year old student at
the University of Risking, what I needed to do with
the rest of my life. I was sitting in one
of my uh I was sitting in one of my
elective classes, of which I had a D minus. All right,

(00:43):
now I'm sitting there watching this is Believe it or not.
You're gonna laugh Spanish, but why are you asking me
to say five Spanish words? Trying to play me on
my light them old thing I was doing. But go ahead,
we'll go. But you had a D minus in it.
I had a D minus in Spanish. But then belieque
get this I was able to test out. I said,
like I was too old to quote unquote learn a language,

(01:05):
and I was able to take a writing class about
Spain to qualify from my foreign language credits. But I
have since, as an adult, traveled all across Latin America
and study spanis religiously now, so I've learned it as
an adult. That's where I learned. I didn't learn it
in college, that's for sure, because what I was doing
in college was I was watching Trey Burke and freshman

(01:26):
Trey Burke and Nick's dospics and looks streaming Michigan, Ohio
State in the Big Ten Championship game. Evan Turner hits
a three pointer from half court to end Michigan's end
almost at NAACP and Michigan's chances at March Madness, and
I said a bad word that you can't say here
because the NBC guidelines. My Spanish teacher looked at me,

(01:49):
knew exactly what I was doing, And in that moment VJ.
I realized I have to go pro in something other
than school. So whenever it was gonna be, it was
gonna be probably caring about this because quite honestly, I
did not imagine a working world, Martin, in which I
was gonna have to press that little boss button on
the side of the stream of the NCUBAA tournament while

(02:10):
I was wearing my tie crunching numbers for the man,
I didn't see it for me. I couldn't see it
for me, And that right now is why I am here.
And we're sitting there watching Arkansas Kansas the one seed
verse the eight seed that matchup in the West Kansas
with a four point lead, and also Princeton the fifteen
seed over Missouri. Right now at the half, they had
a nine point lead. BJ. I saw you tweet our

(02:33):
colleagues Aaron Torres coming up. Hey, which one of these
fifteen is gonna shock the world? Yeah? I saw you
get into it early. You try to get them to
go out there. You gave him the opportunity to call
the shot, give me nothing, and they didn't do it.
Spanier gave me nothing, But you were on it early. Yeah. Well,
just the third straight year fifteen is beaten the two
all right, So that's number one. I love these trends.

(02:54):
When you go do your research from March madness, man,
you could find a lot of trends and a lot
of a lot of stats that will help you, guys
in your bracket. Our Fox Sports Radio Talent Verse Listener bracket.
I'm sitting in third place right now, so I'm feeling
pretty good. I'm feeling pretty good about that because I
definitely want to go go against my colleagues. Email Scott Shapiro.
We were texting back and forth other night. I said, look,

(03:15):
give me some time. He hit me up like, hey, man,
make sure you get your bracket. I said, brother, it'll
probably be Thursday morning, but trust me, my bracket will
be in for this. Man. But this this tournament, you
talk about Prince the AKA to fighting Uncle Phils. These
these kids, man, these kids, man, it's just grit. It's
it's playing who you are. The one thing I love
about the NC Double A tournament that never fails. There's

(03:36):
a lot that fails, but one thing never fails is
if you show up and just be who you've been
all year long, let the chips fall where they may.
You see teams like Arizona who look like World beat
or six nights ago. In the PAC twelve Championship game
against UCLA, they looked like they were a legit title contender,
but they show up in fifty five points because they

(03:58):
thought they started to try to be a different team.
You look at Purdue today, how does Zach Dye get
one shot at him in the last twelve minutes of
the basketball game. He's a first team All American, He's
probably gonna win the Nate Smith Player over the Year award,
First Team Big Ten Big Ten Player of the Year.
And you don't get that man more than one shot
the last twelve minutes because they were trying to be

(04:20):
other thing. They were trying to be something else. Be
who you are, Fairley Dickinson. We're small, we're scrappy, we're
gritty Tennessee today, right we beat people up what they
do to do them up physically. So you're a point
about Purdue. Zach eat is one of my favorite phrases
in all the sports. Just danced with the girl who
bring you? Thank you? Zach Edy's the one that got
you there. That is like, that is the way that

(04:42):
you have gotten to this one seed. But you know,
I find I just love it. I love this tournament
right here right now. To me, it's the best TV
show that you get in sports, right especially because to
the longevity of it all and then you get you know,
one of my favorites is when you hear a guy
misses a shot and you hear a mom screen no,
and it's like, oh man, it's it's nothing. No, like,

(05:03):
oh man, my guy just missed the shot. It's the no,
not my baby, not my baby. So the camera shots
of the family, the friends, the old coach that that
that told the mom you need to let this kid
play basketball. One of my things that I don't think
gets enough credit in March Madness are the bands when
they come back from commercial and the cameras on the bands.

(05:24):
You see these kids that don't play sports. They're probably
there on the musical scholarship, but they're at the dance.
They're part of it, and they're partying. I don't never
see a band down. Bands be getting the end through
the during the tournament, and it's just just the culmination
of everything of March Madness is just so beautiful. Man.
It's dude, I've watched every single game until now I

(05:44):
had to leave the house, and then of course I've
missed whatever I was What happened while I was driving
in the end of the first half of this game exactly.
But I've watched every single game so far from beginning
to end. I'm talking laptop, I pass set up and
the TV on three screens going just I love it. Man,
I can't get enough of this. If you have, like
I'm not saying, I'm not I'm not saying that for

(06:05):
future point, but I'm saying, if you've seen every came
the tournament, then you have seen unprecedented upsets across the board.
And like we just said, we got a fifteen seed
right now with twenty minutes left to play with a
nine point lead. Now, VJ college sports has changed dramatically,
right in the last let's say five years, right with
the advent of nil first one who was on the
horizon and guys getting and the organizations teams getting ready

(06:28):
for it, and then the actual implementation of it all right,
and you see now, especially in basketball, the reason why
I think you see so many more upsets is because
while you see like a Kansas and the Purdues and
a school like Michigan State for example, or Michigan or
North Carolina or Duke who lost in the first round

(06:48):
today not necessarily an upset, but Duke lost in the
first round today, um over Tennessee's Thanks week. The first
week that's the first weekend. Bye, thank you, first week,
first weekend. You see these guys losing in the first
weekend in part because that that's the same as this
is still a high level upset, right, you see the
guys losing in the first weekend, in part because on

(07:11):
the high like the big the blue bloods are not
necessarily on the same program as a school like Fairleie Dickinson,
as a school like Saint Peter's, as a school like
uh the Coast Florida Gulf Coast a few years back VCU.
And we've seen like we saw those those though they
were diamonds in the rough, right you know what I'm saying,

(07:32):
Like every so often there would be one Wichita State
that would run through for a few years. Now what
was regular season, got to the tourney and what would
be the through line there. It's players that you graduated
and development. Like as a Michigan fan, I saw something
similar at Michigan during my time there. When Michigan went
from a team that was bottom of the Big ten,
middle of the Big ten, that got Zach Novak, they

(07:54):
got St. Douglas which provided the foundation to then get
Trey Burke and then you see some leads and final fours, right,
But now what you're seeing is these teams in the
SOKN and the MEAC and they're battle tested. They're sophomores,
juniors and seniors, and they have a lot more experience
and cohesiveness that when you're playing a one game tournament,

(08:16):
because that's really what this is. This is very similar
to the NFL playoffs, where it's you beat your matchup
and you advance. This is not that the NBA, where
it's like, hey man, after five games, they're probably gonna
figure out what the Trailblazers don't have great and it's
not gonna be a one eight matchup. The one eight
doesn't exist in the same way in the NBA. You know,

(08:36):
we may see it this year, right, but historically it
does not. But it's because the teams have to continue
and continue and continue to play. If you if you
see this you play at you're a team like Princeton.
You play a silo basketball that's repeatable and can travel.
You defend, you don't turn the ball over, and you
make good make good offensive decisions because ultimately, at the

(08:56):
end of the day, nobody out here is really older
than twenty four, so the decision making can't be that
great in general. Right, they're all kids, So like, if
you can eliminate some of that, that's the recipe for
an upset, and you're seeing it across the board. Not
only that, transfer portal helps that too. Now you can
transfer kids at twenty three, twenty four years old, and
you got a twenty four year old. I don't care
when anybody says on the college level. If I've been

(09:17):
playing college basketball since i was eighteen and I've somehow
got an injury, i got a trans reporter, took a
fifth year senior as a graduate student and still had
eligibility to play, I'm probably better than the eighteen year
old two freshman, especially if he's not really talented to
be a one and done and people don't look at
him and go, yeah, he's gonna change an NBA franchise
the minute his name is called in the top five.
If you're not that eighteen year old, nineteen year old,

(09:37):
I can get in your head, I'm more physically gifted
than you. I've been playing longer than you, I've been
in more battle tested games, than you. Yeah, you maybe
the blue chip, the McDonald's kid, the Jordan Brand game kid,
you could be all of that. But I've been here,
I've been doing this and in this game. Like you
said today, bro, our coach has been here. He believes
in us, and the coach will fairly Dickerson said. He said,

(09:59):
when I watch produced take, when I knew we were
gonna be playing for Due, I literally sat looked at
my my scout, my assistant coaches. He didn't go, you know,
we got a chance. He looked, just said we could
beat them because what we do matches up very well
about what they are. And if we can just isolate
and we could take out Zach Eady. You gotta tell
me which one of these other young men are gonna

(10:20):
beat us? And they could not do it today. You
think about like Arizona again, Duke even Duke put up
what ninety something points? Ninety something points just two nights ago,
and you can only spell fifty something tonight. That's a
forty point difference by just trying to be different, And
like you said, nil, but transfer portal this year is
really really big. Look what Pitts doing. Look what Cabel

(10:41):
my man Cabel shout out to Jeff Cabel. Look what
Cabel's doing. Bro? What that toast? Yeah? Yeah, I got
him in my brackets to the sweet sixteen, So I'm
happy they're winning. Also, the thing about the transfer portal,
what that does is not only does it help a
pit right who, Like we looked it up last week,
told y'all like Pitt the tournament. You looked at me
like what do you mean? I was like, hey, just

(11:02):
watch a play bro. They got some dudes. But um,
But what it also does it hurts your North Carolina
is your Dukes, your Arizona's, your UCLA's, Because if you're
not coming in as are you, If you are talented
as being the guy your freshman year, your software and
it's not are your Kentucky's and they're not there, there
is no longer the expectation that you were supposed to

(11:22):
be able to stay there and develop for that long
of a term. Like Johnny Jusang, for example, was a
guy who's playing on UCLA as an upperclassman, but that's
because he's transferred from Kentucky exactly right. So, like when
we're talking about the cohesiveness of teams, right, Duke winto
the championship game. Last year Final four run, they only
had one player who was a consistent contributor to that

(11:45):
team on this one, right, that's a whole new team,
a whole new roster, whereas some of these, like Saint
Peter's the year before, that whole team was juniors and
seniors that had gone and gone in advancing their conference
tournament a few times, had played in their conference tournament
a few times, knew what it was like to lose
close games. Yeah, not only that. When you look at
Duke two, even though it's a new team, the ACC

(12:07):
just kind of had a down year. So you look
at that program, You look at that team and you go,
I mean, look at Uva, UVa's home, UVa's home, Duke's home,
and Pitt and here NC State's home. Three ACC teams
already at home. He shows you the kind of down year.
But Pitt is the team that has the veteran, older guys.
And there's three things in March madness. I think you
just have to have. You need veteran leadership, guard play

(12:30):
guard play is imperative in March and coaching. I've been
talking about Tom. I've been talking about Izzo in Michigan
State all year long, nineteen in the twelve Yeah, I
scoffed at them, get in there, see to see they guy.
But I still love Izzo. I love watching his teams play,
and you just know in March they're not gonna be
an easy out. You better strap up them nikes or

(12:51):
whatever you got on your feet and get ready to
play his team because he's twenty five straight years right
right now is the running the running um streak right
now for NC DOUBAA tournament appearances like no one's done
it the last twenty five years straight except for Tom
mills On now with Baheim now retired, the longest tenured
coach right now individual one college basketball. So just just

(13:13):
great stuff all around, man. But you can see a
lot of these losses coming. I didn't know that. I
didn't think Fairley Dickerson would be Perdue. But Aaron Torres,
who's here, what it's on Fox Sports Radio, We've been
talking about Perdue all year long. I told him I
don't see him as a Sweet sixteen team because I
just see they got eaty and eat. He's a great player.
But every time I watched them up, like okay, who
else is gonna help this guy when it matters the most.

(13:34):
It's easy for you to get you fifteen seventeen points
against Northwestern or against Illinois and get a pad on
the back, but in March, you need another guy to
get you at least nineteen to twenty three. And they
couldn't do that today. Man. So you know, just talk
about Zach Eady, just be who you are. One field
goal attempt in the last eight nine minutes of that game,
that's I mean, that's operational failure mixed, you know what

(13:54):
I'm saying. It's operational failure. Like that's just that's just
like running the ball twice in the second half. Like
you can't do that when you're up ten and you
already have like eighty nine yards on the ground in
the first half. You come out in the second half
and you don't hand the ball to your running back.
Guys can't do it. And I mean, again, Matt Painter,
now that's just third straight. I'll get this one right,
first round, not first weekend, first round exit all to

(14:16):
double digit seeds. Yes, And as I just sat up
and I just sat there and just portray why all
these double digit seeds are beating these these powerhouses, transfer
portal take more together than sowing and so forth. At
the end of the day, champ. In order to be
a champ, you're gonna the first game. Coach today and
his team got outplayed all the loose balls. When you

(14:38):
watch basketball, watch who gets the loose ball. Sometimes guys,
boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen. The balls just gotta
bounce your way. But other times you gotta go get
the ball. It's not always gonna bounce your way. And
they were to every loose ball. They were down to
the floor first for every scrappy little And when you
see that going, man, it just it just weighs on you.
But shot out the team neck New Jersey. I got

(14:59):
family there. I spent summers there visiting my grandmother. Man fairly,
Dick shout out the tenat New Jersey. Heays, something in
the water up there in New Jersey is something about
these colleges, these small fifteen hundred people right right, My
high school was bigger than that. Fifteen hundred students open
trials for the basketball team. You know what this is,

(16:25):
lar from the tirerack dot com studios. The locked in
on March Madness Right. I'll tell you what even before
I gambled VJ. This was easily the most wonderful time
of the year. I mean, we got here, we got
three live games going on number one seed Kansas hanging
off a dear life right now. Kevin McCollough is the
third just wiped us. Knows what that three as they're

(16:46):
going to break sixty sixty four to sixty one Houston
h Town an underrated basketball program and ahead the nose
the nose wife thing. The comedian in me comes out
because when I see and I'm like, yo, dog. Every
time I think about somebody's sniffing, wiping their nose, I'm
thinking you you know what I'm saying. Are you on
that you on that white girl, you on that book
of sugar? You're like, what are you doing? Bro? Why?

(17:07):
Why is that a celebration? What does that mean? You know?
The wipe your nose? Because the error I come from
And we were just here where Chris talking about what errors.
We're like, we're from. You guys are millennials. I'm jen
X And the difference in sports and TV and the
things that we see in the way the world is
today that would have never back in the day when
Daryl Strawberry used to come up to the plate and
do that. We knew what type of night Darryl Strawberry

(17:29):
was coming off of just I'm sorry, just the comedicy
and me sees that and I'm like, these young kids
they doing stuff. I don't even think he knows. So
I used to telling you the first I ever saw,
I don't. I'm not saying he started it, So don't
tweet me at Martin White and with all the origin stories, right,
but uh, tweet directors at Husky Ant. Now, the first
one I ever saw do it with Ceede Lamb getting

(17:50):
up from first down. So the first time I really
saw kind of wipe his nose and in a way,
and I think it's kind of going on since then,
Like you know, it's kind of the same way. The
Brown was the first guy to kind of take whatever,
like go up high with his hands and come down
and stam because at the silencer, you know, you know,
I don't. I don't know exactly what we're supposed to

(18:11):
name some of these things. But as a person in
favor of nicknames in general, I have to let it fly.
Well I would, I would like it, and this is
part of my lebron bashion I would like it if
you did it all the time. Like it felt like, okay,
I gotta come up with something. Let me come up
with this. Dales can't stomp. Pushed my hands down and
pound my chest and scream and it was okay, cool,
I like it. But then he went like three years

(18:33):
without doing It's like, Bro, happened to the celebration thing
that you made up and came up with? Like keep
doing it. That's how it's like Dion's high stop. Right
once Dion started doing that, you knew it was coming
when he got to the end zone and he did
the dance Ray Lewis is introduction dance that he used
to do. If he didn't do it every introduction, it
would just be like, bro, did you just are you
trying it? Or is this what you you know? Just
what you're really doing? So the whole nose wipe thing,

(18:53):
I gotta see I got some more kids to do
it to see. Okay, yes, legitar is everybody just copying?
Ceedee lamb because Mary and at Mario Weiss, what if
it's that he was obviously the Benjamin Franklin and you
know what the thing the old man Martin's coming out
right now. But like, dude, you just hit one three. Yeah,
just hit one three. It's three minutes left in the game, bro,

(19:15):
And I get like Steph Curry's putting dudes to sleep
now with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. But
like I do, I said, you should say it's about
a friend of mine who was no longer a friend
of mine, but it would really do him a solid
if somebody punched him in the face, just soho he
knew it could happen. Yeah, you know what I'm saying,
there's some people that we all got in the world,
got we all got somebody's moving the world that has
no idea at any given moment of time. I'm not

(19:36):
gonna be the one to do it, but somebody could
just sock you and then you're gonna learn that mouth
is a little too slick, you know what I'm saying.
That celebration is a little too much as we kind
of I could I could use a little rough and
tumble here, because like, celebrate on your third basket in
a row. We've seen dudes, and especially in this tournament
we saw we've seen dudes go off eighteen in a row.
A kid his first name was Kobe and I'm blanking

(19:58):
on his last name, but he has eighteen from Missouri,
like he had eighteen in a row in the second half,
and he's just going to work. Let your work talk
for you. And you know, you see these, uh one
of my favorite genres of all the smoke podcasts clips
with Mike Barnes and Stephen Jackson. There's a couple of
different ones of people talking of like Booget Cousins said it,
and then somebody else said that had another one of

(20:19):
talking stuff to Tim Duncan and how Tim Duncan He's
like that was Boogie said. I was feeling myself and
you know what I'm saying. I had like little six
in a row and I was like, come on, Tim,
and then he just came down twenty in a row
and he twenty in a row on me and then
after that patting me on a patting me on the
butt and said good job, good job. And it's like,
that's the most demoralizing thing you can do. This a lot.

(20:41):
You're taking somebody's manhood away. Like that's that's what my
dad we used to say. We're watching these games like this,
somebody duncan man he took a manhood, his manhood about celebrations.
There's a really cool interview where to sit down between
Michael Jordan and Amra Shot and he asked them about
Game one, ninety two Finals against the Portland Troilblazers. In
the first half, Michael Jordan had thirty five points and
he hit the seven three pointers and after the sixth one,

(21:03):
he just looks over the magic and Marv Albert and
does the shrug kind of like bron, I don't know,
you don't know. I don't know either, And he said
it was so iconic, and Amras said, he said, but
now you got kids that will do it after, you know,
back to back buckets and I'm sitting there just going cheese. Man,
do you guys realize Jordan did that after hitting his
thirtieth point in the first half of an NBA Finals

(21:25):
on national TV in his six three pointer, and he
wasn't known to be a three point shooter. But the
backstory to that was Jordan wanted to show the world
because at that time there was a conversation, as foolish
as it was that Clyde the Glide Drexler was on
Michael Jordan's level and since then, we've all seen the
last dance. Another Michael Jordan interviews, Michael said, I took

(21:46):
that personally, and I wanted to show the world he
is not on my level. Here's thirty five in the
first half, six or seven three pointers in your mouth,
and if you remember, he hits that last one. Terry
Porter kind of looks over to Magic and and Marv
Albertune he's just giving him a look like and that's
what Magic and that's what Mike just goes. I mean,
I don't know, it's it's not me, it's just the moment.

(22:07):
So I feel you on celebrations the same. In the NFL.
Every first down catch does not mean you have to
get up and point first down. We know it's the
first down. We said, well, we see the yellow damn
line at home on this on the field. I know
you don't see it, lie, but we see the yellow.
We know it's the first down. So I'm with you
on that. Man. Everybody's got to celebrate sack dances. I
don't mind because you don't get a sack every play,

(22:29):
but some sack dances look, they look they look really spontaneous,
like the guy doesn't know what to do so he
just doesn't shake or something. It's like, bro, come on, man,
that's not a sack dance. You didn't know what to do.
You had practice, practice your dances. If you're gonna do him,
I'll tell you this. Uh, I'm Rashod. I would I
would sign up a new streaming service just to watch
his auto auto biopick or whatever. One of the most

(22:52):
interesting people in the world, I mean football player. And
then on top of that, one of the beginning of
sports commentary sports commentators, Bill he stood in his wedding
to Felicia Rashot and who's Michael Jordan's best friends? Like?
What is I mean? This guy's the through line from Rashot.
It's the ride the games with Jordan. I mean, he's
the rod in the Lamborghini would get in two games.
Just Michael Jordan just thing about the things that he

(23:14):
may know. But I know one thing, Steve the Seger
knows everything that's going on in this college basketball game. Steve,
I'm on Kansas three gonna half. Please tell me good news?
What else is turning to my friend? Well, that's why
anybody's watching, right, No, Kansas up on Arkansas? Well, Arkansas
just hit a hoop to tie in the last two minutes.
My goodness, it's sixty five all top seed Kansas. Will

(23:35):
they be eliminated tonight? Coach Bill self, remember he didn't
coach this week either for the Jayhawks. Maybe next week
if they're still live. He just got out of the
hospital last Sunday. Minute twenty nine to go, time out,
Arkansas sixty five. Kansas sixty five, and Princeton still leads
Missouri early second half forty to thirty three. One seed
Houston gets to play Auburn in Birmingham. It's eighteen sixteen,

(23:57):
Houston in the lead, about eleven minutes to go first
and Cougars All American Marcus s Asser is playing. Did start,
is two for three from three point range. Earlier, San
Diego States defense dominated Furman seventy five fifty two, and
speaking of d Tennessee eliminated Duke sixty five fifty two.
N I T second round wins for Vanderbilt and Cincinnati.

(24:18):
As for the World Baseball Classic, it is underway a
quarterfinal with the US against undefeated Venezuela on Fox TV.
The Americans scored three in the top of the first
It's now three two bottom of the first Venezuela has
just homered off US starter Lance Lynn. In the US
batting lineup, the top three in the order, Mookie Bets,
Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, all got aboard to start the game.

(24:39):
All came around to score. However, as I say, Venezuela
has literally just scored Luisa ray As a two run
homer that played at leadoff man josel two Bay. The
games on Fox TV tonight. The rest of the Attorney
semis and Finals in Miami will be on FS one.
NHL Boston wins again five two at Minnesota. The Boston

(25:00):
Bruins record fifty two and eleven with five overtime losses.
This Edmonton won six to four at Seattle, and in progress,
it's a flyer's lead over the Hurricanes four to three
in the final minute of regulation. Jordan Spieth is one
stroke back at the PGA event in Florida. Today, Orlando
beat the Clippers in LA one thirteen one oh eight
despite thirty points from Paul George. New York Candid Denver

(25:22):
another loss one sixteen to one ten and Philly, with
seven straight wins, is underway and leading late first quarter
thirty two, twenty four at Indiana. Back to you, thanks
Steve Martin and BJ coming to Lave from the Tirac
dot Com studios. And as we wait for Mark mdina,
this Kansas and this Kansas and Alabama, this game is

(25:44):
coming down to the wire and we have him here now.
Mark mcdin of Fox Sports Radio insider, Hot Mark, how's
it going, man? I feel always feel like this time
of the year is especially when we turn away from
the NBA and watch all these guys who are not
nearly as good as NBA players and gamble on that instead.
What like, watching college basketball is always an up rup chef?

(26:06):
Do you always think, Hey, these guys can't make any shots.
They play a lot slower, and you know, any comeback
seems like an arduous task. So I enjoy college troops,
but yeah, NBA is so much better. Hey, Mark was
going on VJ running a husky here, buddy, how you
feeling this week? Yeah, I'm good man, I'm talking to
you guys. Yeah, always, buddy. So let's jumping some some
NBA stuff. Man, Huh. I don't even know where to

(26:27):
start because this this week in the NFL free agency
March madness. I watched very little NBA this week. What
I did see, though, was the Dallas Mavericks hit a
game winning Buzzard three pointer against the Lakers. It knocks
them down to the ten seed. Martin Bow and I
were talking last week. I think they make the play
in these two gentlemen think they're they're slip ups in
his schedule. What'd you see the other night they're sitting

(26:49):
at thirty four and thirty seven. We know Lebron's the
big name in the NBA. Lakers are a big brand.
Talk to me about the Lakers, buddy, What do you
see going on here with them in ten? Yeah, the
Lakers are just so turbulin. I mean, you just when
you think that they're turning a corner that they, you know,
take two steps back. And I think in the Lakers
case against the Dallas Mavericks, they just squandered yet another opportunity.

(27:09):
Luca don chiches out of the game. I know the
Kyrie Irving's back and doing Kyrie Irving type things, but
you know the rest of their supporting cast has never
been consistently consistent. But you just saw a total collapse.
This is not just a pin everything on Anthony Davis,
but you know, he made costly blunder. After costly blunder,

(27:30):
he fouls Maxi Kleiber on a three point shot even
though they're up three, and he hits three free throws.
He can't make both free throws on the next possession,
and then he leaves them wide open on the next play.
I get he got a double Kyrie Irving, but he's
protecting the pain even though they're down too, leaves them
with a wide open three, and he becomes a hero.

(27:53):
And you know, I think before that the Dallas Mavericks
are on pins and needles because Lucas being out, they're
not quite considered, and they almost squandered a game against
the San Antonis first, one of the worst teams in
the league, before prevailing a double overtime. But now being
you know, in the locker room after the game, it
just felt like for the Dallas Mavericks, this is a
galvanizing moment where they're talking about, Hey, they're they're learning

(28:15):
to trust each other more, they're becoming closer. Kyra Irving's
talking about how they've had grown men conversations about getting
through the ups and downs of the season. That I
can't help but wonder that maybe the Dallas Mavericks, for
all the flaws that they have, are at a better
position than the Lakers. And I think what's troubling here
with the Lakers is I've heard way too many times,

(28:38):
whether it's against the Dallas Mavericks, after their game or
after another game, anthy Davis is saying, Hey, the losses
on me, put the blame on me. I like the
self accountability, but you only should point the finger out
yourself once and then have a balace back game. And
it's just happened way too many times for a guy
who's supposed to be a star player. Now did guy

(29:00):
definitely is a star playing NICOLEA the Yokich But if
I think that one of the first times you came
on with us in this time slide, Yokis was pretty
much a lock in terms of Vega's betting to be
the MVP. Obvious those odds have changed a little bit.
Any truth to the rumor that the Nuggets are taking
the back half of the season, said Yokis doesn't get
three straight, I'm just obviously I'm just being silly there.

(29:21):
What are your thoughts right now on the MVP discourse
and where it's at. Yeah, well, you know, to be
a little faficious with the shock. There's definitely some school
of thought from the Lakers, and then maybe they're trying
to avoid them in a first round matchup, right, But
I think, honestly what's going on is just the law
of averages are evening now. I think the Nuggets are
still in a good spot. First the MVP race, I

(29:42):
want to be surprised that NICOLEA. Yokich still wins third MVP,
but I think it's up in the air, you know,
just to peak behind the current, I was pulled. I
was among the voters for that, the ESPM pull about Hey,
who are you voting for right now? I voted for Yokich,
but I think right now, my it's still up in
the air between him, Joel Embiid, yannis On, Tod Takumpo,

(30:07):
and the reality is I think each player has its
own compelling case. With Jokich, I was leaning toward him
because I think he's built off of his past two
MBP seasons of being consistent with having triple doubles, having
a vocal leadership role, as well as ensuring that the
Nuggets are one of the top teams in the West.
But I think with Joel Embiid, you know, he has
become not only just a dominant post player, but he's

(30:30):
really expanded his range as a you know, pick and
pop guy, a stretch five, great chemistry with James Harden,
and I think his durability has been a lot better
than it has been you know, two seasons ago, both Milwaukee.
I think the only knock on Yannis is that you know,
he was out for some period of time, but he's
been remarkably consistent, especially during that time when Chris Middleton

(30:54):
was out of the lineup, and you know what they've
been able to catch, I think fire lately, you know,
the Celtics have taken a dip here in the standing.
So I'm really torn, and thankfully I have a month
left of the season to really figure it out. But
I don't know what I'm gonna do. Guys, I mean,
each guy has a compelling case, and I don't want

(31:15):
to say it's gonna be flipping the coin exercise, but
it's gonna be a lot of sleepless nights for me
to figure out which one gets the number one vote mark.
I always feel like to when the team's healthy, and
we know their winners, we know they've done it before.
We know they've been through the trenches and done what
they had to do to put rings on their finger
and hang up banners. I just always feel like until

(31:36):
I see them not do it healthy and hold then
I can't see that they can't. And I watched the
Golden State Warriors, and I watched Steph go bonkers and
drop fifty and I mean it was the twenty twenty
just I mean, just an insane night. How was after
Clay had a ridiculous night three four nights prior to that.
And I know they struggle on the road, but I
just feel like in May and when they know they

(31:57):
got to get one on the road, I've seen them
do it so many times over the last eight or
nine years when they're healthy, and I just still believe
in regardless what see they are, they have the venteral leadership,
they have the championship mentality and mental in the past.
How do you feel about Golden Statement? A very mixed.
I mean, on similar to last season, they still got

(32:17):
you know, Steph Curry, Clay Thompson, Draymond Green, They you know,
had different moments of consistency and consistency of Steph Curry's brilliance.
You have the you know, ups and downs the young players,
but look the road record. It shouldn't be this bad.
I mean it's as bad as the Spurs, the Rockets,
the Pistons. Those teams are in the lottery. And you know,

(32:38):
last season and the other championship years, they knew how
to win on the road. They also knew how to
defend at a high level. And there also hasn't been
consistency with some of the guys that they hoped would
take another step. Andrew Wiggins, you know, he's been out
for an extended period of time because of a personal reason,
and you know, the Warriors are rallying around him and
not disclosing why, and they're saying, take your time. But

(33:01):
even before that, he hadn't been the same player. Jordan
pull He's been up and down. You know. I was
able to catch up with him a few weeks ago
about his you know season, and he was the first
to admit that, you know, it's kind of been a
rite of passenger trying to figure out how to still
be that offensive playmaker, knowing that he's gained a lot

(33:21):
more attention from defenders as well as his defense. You know,
Steve Kervis telling me, you know, one hand, he's a
good defender, but with a qualifier when he puts his
mind to it, meaning that he's not always engaged in
focus on the defensive end of the floor. So you know, look,
I'm not going to ever discount the Warriors, and they'll
certainly make the playoffs because of Steph Curry, but I

(33:44):
think that what has been very clear this season, that's
not enough. And so yeah, they're not winning the championship.
They'll win, they'll get to the playoffs, but it just
feels like they're sealing a second round at best because
they haven't fundamentally addressed these two glaring weaknesses of the
road record and their defense, and that's two staples that

(34:05):
they were able to rely on in the past. Championship
runs well, Mark Mdina, like you said, just now, Jordan Pool,
he made his name in this tournament in March. Looks
like Kansas may need a Jordan Pool type effort out
of somebody out there if they're gonna keep dancing. Ask
Mark Mdina, thanks for joining us. He talks about the
Jamark We'll get into more of this college basketball tournament.

(34:28):
As we wrap this hour up, Martin and VJ, Fox
Sports Radio, Martin and BJ coming to you liar from
the Tirack dot Com studios that it has happened. Arkansas
knocks off another number one seed. Kansas two number ones
don't survive the first weekend. At least Kansas gotta win,
you know what, VJA. One day we need to have

(34:49):
a serious conversation about not making these HBCU sixteen seeds.
All right, when you see when we see Fairley Dickinson
and Saint Peter's and so on, you can't tell me
that Howard can't be the fifth two seed, three seats,
all right, But anyway, that's beside the point. Congratulations to
Arkansas and Eric Musselman. I believe his last name is
Let's go figure, because your boy came on his shirt

(35:10):
and stood on the storage table. Ali j. R. Smith
celebrating his win. I mean, look right in front of
his family and his beautiful wife wrote. The biggest motivation
I have here is clearly we have we have going
off the rails in terms of where you're taking your
shirt off. We got John Muran taking his shirt off
inside of his trip club. It's their job job. You

(35:30):
got Eric Musselman taking his shirt off, swinging it around
like Pete Pablo's helicopter on the stores table and something
the more, and where the hell they're playing all right?
Like like he just hit a game winning shot? You
know what? You know what? Damn it? Chris perfect bowl
and VJ. Y'all hearing me, God is my witness. I'm
getting to take your shirt off, shape, because apparently you
can take your shirt off whatever the hell you want

(35:51):
to it these day. First of all, I'm with it.
I'm with it. Stand on the table. You just knocked
off number one kids right there in front of his
beautiful children, his beautiful wife saying that. When the cam
went to hert We're like, hey, that's okay, that's yeah.
There you go, brother, right there, that's straight respect right there,
take your shirt off swinging around there, you're gonn Pete
Pablo North Carolina even though they didn't make the tournament,
but that was the joint back in the day. But

(36:12):
the thing was Chris and I. Chris said it after
I was saying to do I'm saying, hey, guys, still
in shape, man guy, Actually he apparently still hits the gym.
You can see he guys still got little cuts. He's guy.
Ain't no flags, not flabby, you're not sloppy, you don't
have no belly. She was running three miles in the
morning every morning. Hey, I ain't mad at him. Man.
At least he put it back on for the postgame interview.

(36:33):
So at least he did that. I loved it. But
that gracious one of the highest paid employees to dress
back again. You know, you know, he does still look
better than another former Arkansas coach who was taking his
shirt off a lot too, Brett Belam. Yeah, that is
that pictures making the rounds. That is true. But all

(36:54):
I'm saying is this, eventually, VJ, this is gonna happen.
I know you got your private gym membership now, so
you're on You're on the right track as well. But
what's going to happen soon We're gonna jump to shark here.
John Marinz got a six pack, all right, He's coming
out with no shirt. I'll be in with some other things,
but now that's gonna focus on a no shirt for
right now. All right, Eric Muscleman again looks like a

(37:14):
guy whose last name could be muscleman rights, he's not
out there flabby. Soon we're gonna see anybody. Tomzzo might
come out of his shirt. You know, I bet he
ain't got no six pack under that. He's seven years
but he could come out. But he could come out
of the the shirt. I'm just thinking. And see that's why.
That is why, now y'all he hear me. Now believe me. Later,

(37:35):
I'm gonna get in come out to your shirt type
of shape, just so just so I can do it
before before it jumps to shark, because it's coming soon.
You guys know, coming out of your shirt is all confidence, right,
You're not really, it's all confidence. Man. If you go
to the beach, everybody out at the beach, guys doesn't
have a model athletic pro athlete body. Some dudes got

(37:55):
man boo, some dudes got love head, some dudes got
a little belly. And it's like, look and long as
I'm still getting what I needed in my life, and
I'm still I'm still thinking. I'm fresh and I'm flying.
I'm doing what I do. I say, do you, man,
I get what I get what you're saying. But listen,
when you're when you're still in shape, like that at
that age, coaching kids beating number one Texas. Hey, I'm
not mad that you jumped up on the table in

(38:16):
front of your friends, did the Suey Pig call and
took your shirt off and like you said, started spinning
that bad boy around. Any flex, any flex. I think
your theory is correct, Like everyone should be confident in
doing what they want to do. H The issue for
us is that we live in California and there's literally
a chance that, like you know, Brad Pitt or some
other guy's gonna be right next to you. How about

(38:37):
this freaking Brad Pitt's backup dancer, you know, saying like
that guy's fund of you what old foods? And he
just looks like thorn, And you know, I feel you
on that boat. When I first moved out here, one
of the first jobs I've ever had, I was a
security guy at the Grammins Movie Theater where they do
all the handprint and and feet print and the and
the cement, and every now and then we would hold
a red carpet event there. I thought I had nice

(38:59):
suits until you do a red carpet event and then
the movie actors and the celebrities and the athletes come
through with their suits on. You almost want to stand
in the shade and not let people see it, the
little lint you might have on your suit, because it
isn't where the suit he's wearing probably came from Gucci
or Proud of that day, and you got the best
stuff you could at Men's Warehouse. Yeah there you well,

(39:20):
actually Burlington co Factory. I don't. I'm not even up there.
I wasn't even up then when I first moved out here.
You're sleeping in the hotel, sleeping at jobs. This is
my true life sponsorship. But I'm telling you, man, I
when I was broke, when I first moved out here,
and I was dead broke Jason stand up comedy and
acting in sports, trying to figure out my life, I
was shopping at Burlington Co Factory because they had the deals.

(39:43):
I didn't have a lot of money and they had
my size. And you feel like, okay, well, this says
Italian made on the inside. I don't really know it is,
but that's what the little label says. And it's only
thirty nine ninety nine little Italy Italian fifty fifty fifty long. Baby,
let me put it up, Okay, I'm wearing this Thursday
night for for the ATL premiere. Well, I just know

(40:04):
this look. Apparently clothes don't have to make them in anymore,
because you can just take off the shirt whenever you
need to, in victory or in defeat. If you got it,
you got it. JR Jr. Walked so Jah and Eric
Musselman could run. I'm running right behind him, Buddy. I'm
coming to David. You're not leaving me in the bill.

(40:26):
You're not leaving me in the Lebron has been in
the no shirt business since he got that LA to
a practice because now he practices with no shirt. But
I'm talking to Vodki won't let him win a title.
He's coming out that thing and swinging him out. More
college basketball Next, Martin and VJ. Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
that's right, Martin Wiss VJ Husky in the tire rack
dot Com Studios, Tirac dot Com will help you get
there with an unmach selection, fast, free shipping, free road

(40:48):
after protection and over ten thousand recommended as stallers. Tirac
dot Com Way tired buying should be VJ NFL Free
Agency was flying fast and fast and furious earlier this weekend.
We'll get to it at a moment, but I think
right now we have to talk about I mean, look
Princeton right now, eighteen point lead, Okay, Kansas just goes

(41:09):
down to Arkansas and the shirtlet Eric mucle eric musclesman.
Like this tournament that we are watching right now, it's
not just only full of upsets at this point where
the regular just not on. Like everything feels like it's
a tight game every I mean, look upset alert and
just don't turn it off right now as number nine
nine seed Auburn has has a seven point lead on

(41:31):
the on the number one seed Hughes doing we could
see potentially but three number one seeds not make it
out of the first weekend of the tournament. Yo, I mean,
what's your take on this. Houston's got injuries though, That's
and that was that I was always cautious when I
did all my brackets. Every time I looked at their name,
I wanted to move them deep. Man. But I'm like,

(41:52):
they are high powered team, they play great defense, they're
they're great on ninety four feet both ends of the floor.
But when you do not have your best player, when
you do not have your star player, it's got to
show up at some point. Right now, this is the
first half minute left thirty nine thirty one. Then they
have plenty of time to get this right. When I'm
looking at what Missouri and what Princeton is doing right

(42:12):
now up twenty or Missouri and a fifteen seed is
now about the march into the sweet sixteen. Once again,
as I started to show at the top of last hour,
Princeton is just who they are. They don't deviate from
what they do well, and they don't try to go
do things that they don't do well. So I just
I love this story with Princeton right now AKA to

(42:33):
fighting Uncle phils Man like this is this is great
to watch. And now we watch Kansas go down. Now,
you know, I know they don't have their coach. They
didn't have Bill self, and I don't know how much
of that matters. I know it matters something because when
you don't have your coach and your coach is in
the hospital and we don't really know all the details
at least I don't just know he would sick or
something happy in the hospital, but he was the rubs up.
He was he was coaching at practice, but not at

(42:55):
the games. He was doing something. He was at practice
over the last few days, not coaching the game, which
is weird though, and that it was something about this.
You know, the stress is a high, high stress environ
all right, I get it, I get it, But I
don't know how much that had to do with Kansas.
I just watched an Arkansas team, much like Tennessee and
other SEC teams. We're watching arban also right now in Houston.

(43:16):
They're physical, they really are. They're physical, and they beat
you up without fouling like they get physical with you.
They bump bodies. And Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith were
on earlier today and they were talking about how in
basketball a lot of times sometimes that that hustle, that
gritty guy that just knows he can't outplay you. So
I'm gonna just pester you all game. Bro. You're not
gonna be flying and dunking all over me. You're not

(43:38):
gonna be crossing me up, making me fall, having people
laughing at me, making me look stupid. I'm gonna be
in your face. I'm gonna be up underneath you all
game long. And you know as well as I do. Martin,
a lot of superstar players are players that are deemed
to be the man. They don't like that, they don't
like they don't like to be crowded. It takes a
special guy. They yeah, come get right in my face
so I can bust you exactly. And I feel like

(43:58):
you gotta be like Kobe, right because that never bothered Kobe.
Kobe wanted you in his face, like, come on, break
my nose in an All Star game the way wait,
slow problem, I'll just I'll still come out and I'll
still bush all. But but that's that's what we're seeing
in this tournament. To the more physical teams in the SEC,
it's kind of pounding their chests a little bit Tennessee, Alburn,
Alabama and um in Arkansas. Right, SEC's kind of pounding

(44:21):
their chests a little bit in this tournament. Man first weekend,
well again, trans reportal you know what I'm saying, Like
Auburn is one of the biggest. They're tired, you report,
You're going to get in your sixth man where you're at,
come on? You know. So it's just we're seeing I think,
a really a shift in college basketball. And you know,

(44:42):
so you think it'll last just once. I think one Okay,
I'll tell you what I think with the trans reportal
and I'll I think it's affecting college basketball because we're
still just three years removed from COVID. Remember, a lot
of guys got another year of edgiability, So then if
they were a sophomore, then this would be there. They
would be out of school already. That's where you get
a twenty three twenty four year old that's still on
campus and able to transfer. I do think over the

(45:04):
next year or two it comes back down that we
do get to some type of normacy of what we're
used to seeing in college basketball. Is not to say
we're not gonna see these big time upsets, but like
you said, I if a Houston goes down, that's three
number ones that don't make it out of the first
the first weekend in Houston, who's the top overall? Sea
is the only one that's left Like that, I'd be

(45:26):
hard pressed to believe that's going to be the new trending, basically,
is what I'm saying. Well, part of the reason why
I do think that's gonna be the new trend is
I did a little research here. I went to Wikipedia
and I looked at the top ten draft picks over
the last what five or six years right now, twenty
twenty three doesn't really quite count. But also it makes
my point because I thought the twenty twenty two March

(45:47):
Maddeness Tournament was great with North Carolina and Duke going
oh Man, I thought that. I thought it was one
of the better tournaments that we had had in a while.
Right now, almost only one of those guys in the
top ten was drafted, and he didn't play college basketball.
Now you go to two thousand and twenty two, Jalen
Green didn't play college basketball. I went to the G League.
K Cunningham didn't play in the tournament. Right, we didn't

(46:09):
see the ty When you look at two thy twenty
you had three players who didn't play in the tournament. Right,
um in the top ten who were drafted, and LaMelo Ball,
Kellyan Hayes, Killey Hayes went now he went played for
I'm losing it right now, mccabi. Just whoever Denny a job?
Jen v Is Washington has been drafting these Eastern Europeans

(46:30):
for the longest and just missing I mean the last
jan starting with Jan Vestley and going to now but anyway,
he didn't play in March Madness. And then you go
to two thousand nineteen, which I feel was the last
kind of great tournament that we had with Zion jah
RJ Barrett was also on that Duke team. Jandre Hunter
was elde eighth the Michigan State. Right, So you had
that team, and then you had Kobe White played for

(46:50):
North Carolina. You had Jackson Hayes playing for you, guys
playing for Ruy Hatchamorro was playing for Gonzaga, who was
a key part for that Gonzaga team. And then you
go down to two thousand and eighteen, that's DeAndre Aden's
the first round pick, Marvin Bagley second. But you had
two guys from Duke and the first two picks overall.
Trey Young went on that running had college basketball kind
of captivated as a discussion point in that period of time.

(47:11):
And the thing I'm thinking about right now, you know,
the two biggest topics in in amateur basketball is right
now Victor Wenbanyana and Scoot Henderson, and neither one of
them is playing in this tournament, right. And then you
had just a few years ago the two biggest amateur names,
Zion Williamson, and LaMelo Ball Well, Zion was an early

(47:32):
exit and LaMelo didn't even play college basketball. Now, it's
just when we see all these different like to get
the tournament back to the draw. I think it is
and I think it's the best TV show out, But
it ain't because watching the best players right his name,
that's that's the NBA. It's because of the competition, in
the immediacy of it, right, that's why we love this tournament.
And you see you see Eric Musselman ripping his shirt off,

(47:53):
and you see the other the other team out there
like literally crime because their career is over. And now,
according to enterprise, I got on something else, right, Not
only that, you seeing teams like Perdue not get the
ball to their best player one shot in the last
twelve minutes. You're seeing teams like Kansas just for whatever reason,
not showing up. You even seeing a team like Missouri.
You know that you shouldn't be down almost twenty to Princeton.

(48:14):
I understand Princeton is gonna This is a Cinderella. That
word hasn't been used a lot lately, but this would
be a Cinderella run for Princeton to get to the
Sweet sixteen. If Princeton wins next week, we're watching Princeton
in an elite eight, Like, are you like, are you kidding? What?
What world are we in? What realm are we in?
Right now? What metaverse? What metaverse are we in? Right now?

(48:34):
The world we're in is the one that the people
who are doing the brackets, the selection committee has got
to understand, because it seems as if they haven't caught up,
because I look at this, everybody, she's one verse sixteen,
you know, the first time in his guys, the fifteen
seeds not supposed to beat the one seed of the
two seeds. The sixteen seeds not supposed to beat the

(48:55):
one seed right in one, one, two and one fifty one.
It's not supposed to have it all right. There's a
guy on Twitter I followed on a game with getting
crushed because he bet a lot of money on Purdue
to win. Straight up. Well, if you had, well think
about it, if you had done that on the other
one hundred and fifty two times, you would have been
sitting just fine. And in fact, if you had you're
still sitting just fine. Even better Purdue to lose because

(49:16):
it's not supposed to happen it's supposed to be an
upset because no one expected it. Now to me, if
I see a team like Princeton and they're sitting in
the sweet sixteen, eld eight as a fifteen seeds, you
know what, they were under seated. Well, I see Kansas
who lost to Texas before their last game. They're shitting
up there as a one seed. I see Houston with

(49:37):
an injury, as a one seed with injury to a
major starting players at once, you know what, they are overseated.
But them boys in a three slot. Sorry, you know
what I'm saying. Fairly think us in up there in twelve? Sorry? Yeah,
you know what I'm saying, Like make Lake and you know,
maybe maybe we miss out on some of the fifth
best team in the ACC, but you get better basketball.

(49:59):
It's com it's powers too. And that's and that's what
I found out when I was doing research on the tournament.
This is this is maybe four or five years ago,
because I would ask myself that why is it always
like an HBC you get a sixteen, Why don't they
get a fifteen? Why can't they get a fourteen? And
it's because of what your conference, your conference powers ranked
by the NC double a selection committee. That's where you're
gonna sit. Like like like the IVY League, They'll never

(50:20):
be higher unless you know, they just go undefeating. They
have a crazy type season. They're always gonna be a fifteen,
A sixteen, fourteen HBC whos are always going to be
a fifteen a sixteen. Now if they if they start
to change that, then I can see what you're saying.
But if you take one of those teams out of
the one seed that you mentioned already, the only other
one two seed, I think you could have put there
what either been Arizona as a one or UCLA as

(50:42):
a one. So I thought they got the ones right.
But at the end of the day too, once again
we watched I watched Perdue win the regular season Big Ten.
They were picked the finish fifth. They win a regular
season Big ten, then they go win the Big ten, turney,
and they look like, okay, they could be coming around.
Say with Arizona. Arizona is back to back PAT twelve
tournament champions. But you can't come into this tournament and

(51:03):
then just forget what the hell you do and who
you are. Look and that's what I start to see
really happens regardless of what you're seeing. We get caught
up in seeding. But is there a real difference mare
between A one and a two? Yeah? Really this year
you thought there was a difference between those eight teams.
I mean, yeah, I think, I mean there's reasons. I mean, look,
even if the difference is marginal, there's still a difference,

(51:24):
Like there's still even if it's But the thing I'm thinking,
all right, maybe, like you said, do you have the
IVY League for example, are some of these some of
the like the MEAC where, HBCU conference whatever. We have
long considered these bids to be one bid leagues. Fairly,
Dickinson did not win their conference tournament. They lost their

(51:44):
conference tournament, and the team that won is an el right,
so they would have finished them, They would have finished
second in their conference tournament. Potentially, I don't know, silly me,
if they're gonna be the only sixteen to be the
one are the second to sixteen to be the one one?
Uh in the last two three years? Maybe just maybe
that's more than a one big league. Well, Merrimack is

(52:07):
the school. I got that note earlier. I wrote it down,
but but I would have to honestly I get what
you see. If the second best team is the sixteen,
Seaton can't go beating one seed, right either, your one
seeds shouldn't be a one seed. And Produe won the
regular season Big Ten won the Big Ten championship. All right?
Do you have no qualms with that? I have no

(52:28):
qualms with that. We can sit there and agree there.
But if you're fifteens, and you and your sixteens are
out here wiping the floor within the first and the
second weekend of the tournament, they're probably under seated. Well
if you talk about fifteen. So let's go with Princeton,
because Princeton is the great example to use. Right now,
up seventy five sixty one, it looks like here, yeah,
with thirty five seconds left in this game, the games
are wrapped and move on to the Sweet sixteen and

(52:49):
they'll play UH the winner between Baylor and UH and Creighton.
But if Princeton is a if the IVY League is
a two team, I would have to really go. I
can look through that conference again and see who the
possible second team would have been. Yale would have been hard, like,
who's the possible second team that they could put in
the tournament. That means you're taking out a power five

(53:11):
and maybe a mid major at large bid to put
into it would be an added the mid major at
large Big League a mid major, Okay, I always I
just always viewed him as just a little lower than
it does, a little bit lower than the Big one. Ye,
But that's what I'm saying. No, I feel Ivy League
itself is a step below what I think the classic

(53:34):
mid majors are. But then you're telling me you're taking
out a power five at large bid. The moneymakers aren't
gonna like that. That's not gonna But here's the thing.
North Carolina's not in this tournament. Do you think that
the ratings drop so preculously that they're like, Dan, you
know what I'm saying, Like, I don't think that's the case.
People are watching this because it is what it is,

(53:57):
you know. Like, I've never understood that argument of people like, oh,
they're gonna be mad if the Bengals go to the
Super Bowl. Why some people still gonna watch People are
still gonna watch Supers, people are gonna watch Marks maddness,
Like if you're only tuning in for your team, that's
a subsection of fan so I don't think we're really
counting on here. How much money have you lost so far? Oh? Actually,
I'm up, I'm up. Are you up? Okay? These ones falling? Man, Like,

(54:18):
honestly these ones and two's following. I'm looking at brackets
like I'm looking at the Fox Sports Radio one that
we're doing here with talent and fans, and I'm like, wow,
these people's brackets are kidding crushed Arizona first, but now
Perdue in Kansas, and a lot of people had perduing
Kansas going far and Arizona. There are plenty of people
that Arizona winning this whole tournament. So uh yeah, the
brackets are the brackets are pretty pretty busted up in

(54:41):
a in a true Martin fashion with I was couching
like hell, I was like, I think the winner of
Arizona and Alabama get that title. So I'm halfway alive.
I'm watching Brandon Miller have a donut for points and
in the first round didn't bode well for me, and
night up did not look great. Yeah. The only thing

(55:02):
I really missed yesterday in terms of side I didn't
miss anything in terms of sides, just just totals, you know,
I missed on over one hundred and fifty two in
Memphis in Florida Atlantic and Memphis couldn't get off They
just couldn't get off the snide. But in terms of picks,
the point of me I thought, I thought, I thought
Memphis could be a Sweet sixteen team, and I kind

(55:23):
of want them to be because, let's be honest, college
basketball is they sported about the coaches. We like Penny Hardaway,
and I would like to see Penny Hardaway, you know,
be successful if nothing else, because you'll think about it.
If nothing These guys are characters, and that Jim Behim
say what you will, definitely a character as Racuston. As
he retired one of the characters left college basketball, we

(55:43):
still got one of these landing. But the idea I
was about to ask, do you have a surprise team
that you picked that to go kind of far like
a lead eight that's still alive you We'll give you.
I'll give that to you right out of the break.
As week on four, we'll have more college basketball as
some NFL free agency on tap Martin and VJ, Fox
Sports Radio, Martin VJ Comeing Too Alive from the Tyraq
Dot COUM Studios, tyrad dot com Studios. What am I

(56:05):
talking about? North Carolina did not raise up into the
end of a tournament. And you know what, Duke didn't
do much either, as they both well, North Carolina misses
the whole dance. Duke doesn't dance for long. They're home
before curfew as Tennessee bounces them, don't make it out
the first weekend, sounds by Pete pabwo. That's right, baby,
go back to Drham, go back to Cameron. I think

(56:27):
your hands back home, man. And you know me, I
love watching Duke Louise. Yeah, Carolina made the tournament, but
I mean Duke's home after the first weekend, so I
mean it doesn't it doesn't even feel it doesn't even
feel bad. If they hadn't won or advanced far, I'd
have been haying. I'd have been just straight haying, because
that's just what Carolina as tar heels due against against
them dukeys across the train tracks down in Durham, Man,
so their home. They got beat up today, man, they

(56:48):
really got beat up today. And it shows. We were
just sitting here talking to Bow and Chris talking about
just the way things are recruited now, the way teams recruit,
the way teams played, the way styles are both made
a great point. Some coaches just don't get out of
their own way. I do think Shire is a good coach.
I think he'll be fine there. I don't think they're
gonna run and I gonna run him out the door.
Its longest coach K's office is still open, John Shire,

(57:09):
I'll be the coach there. A duke. But you know,
can you get back to recruiting those type of guys
that made Duke Duke? And that's gonna be really interesting
to see in college basketball. Teams are just gonna go
out and stay who they are and we're gonna try
to go. Okay, let's go find the next steph Curry,
Let's let's shoot more threes. Now you're seeing these smaller
schools that are upsetting these schools. They're not big gunning teams, man,

(57:30):
they just run efficient basketball offense and it works. And
you know, I thought about this, You know I did.
I did kind of cancel out Rick Barnes or somebody
who's been coaching college basketball forever really well he's been coaching.
I mean I was thinking about, you know, you got
a legend in these landing and Rick Barnes is not
quite the legend that Izzo or Behan, but he's I mean,
he's been doing it for quite sometime. Coach T J. Ford. Yeah,

(57:51):
you're right at Texas, I mean, how many lead I mean, hey,
sweet sixteen in ladies has got on his record though
he's he's he's been far. He's been in some final fours.
That's what I'm saying. I just kind of I took him.
I was talking about college basketball and having its coaches,
and you know, we saw Rick Patino earlier in this tournament.
He lost obviously with the IONA, he's being linked to
Saint John's. Don't know what that'll bring if that If
that occurs, you can see that in this play. Out

(58:13):
the door, he's out the door, you and you could
see in this. But I don't think it should happen.
I'll go to that question really fast. I like Georgetown
better for him. I think that would be a better
fit for him. Uh, the resources are bigger there. He's
a New York Kard Giddy wanted to stay home, but
he's done a New York thing already. He's already coach
in the city, like you already know what's there. You
already know what that's about. Now. If he just wants
to stay home because he's an older guy and he's
late in his later years of life and coaching basketball,

(58:35):
that's fine. But I thought Georgetown would have been a
perfect place for Patino. But as far as Barnes goes,
you know, things didn't work out great in Texas, didn't
win the national championship, got to some of Leadate's Final
four and a lot of and you know, handful of
sweet sixteens. But goes to Tennessee a program that I mean, honestly,
last thing I remember about him is Tobias Harrison, and um,

(58:56):
who's my man? Alan Houston? You know what I'm saying.
As far as like just really knowing they had Chris
Chris Lofton was a great player for them when they
was when at Bruce Pearl era of Tennessee, Yeah, that's cool.
But you notice I didn't remember him though, so I
don't know if he was Yeah, but I remember Alan Houston.
But you know, Barnes has gone there and resurrected that
that program there and now has them on the cuff

(59:17):
of on the cusps. Excuse me, of making probably a
pretty decent run with some of these high receiats getting
knocked off. You tell me who's gonna battle, who's gonna
beat up Tennessee there into the sweet sixteen, So you
tell me who's gonna match them physically and that on
that side of the bracket. Well, if anything, you know
what VJ. I talked about this when I saw a
can't just player trip I think it was Genleen Wilson

(59:38):
tripped trying to lay the ball up, and Rev called
to no foul uh, And I told you, yeah, it's
not something we hear often, Yeah at all. You know,
I don't. I don't have a lot of complaints about
the raps. It's been clean. I have no complaints about
the rams intimes. It's like there's been there was one
player I can think of that, like you said, like you,
I've watched every dribble of this tournament thus far, there's

(01:00:00):
only been one call. It was a fairly Dickinson Purdue
and the fairly Dickenson player had ran down and secured
the rebound with four other Purdue players around, which was
a microcosm for how the whole game went in general.
But the ball went out of bounds off the fairly
Dickinson player. They go to review, it's evident that the
fairly Dickinson player was fouled by not one, but two

(01:00:21):
different perdue players, one on the left or one on
the right. Arm. My guy just can't catch your break.
And the referees are reviewing who touched it last, and
not the fouls. It's like reviewing who's running a red
light without noticing it's a forest fire behind them and
trying to get stay exactly right. Yeah, No, it's been
it's been clean, and and that I can appreciate. The
referee has been clean. We haven't said anything about officiating.

(01:00:41):
We haven't said, oh man, they want this. I haven't
heard not one person as far as readio. I've listened
to other shows I've done in the last forty eight
hours where oh man, they did they did? They just
want them to win or I haven't heard any of that.
And when you don't hear that that you know you're
getting good, clean sports. We'll see if it continues. The
only thing I'm having a problem with is Alabama probably

(01:01:03):
is the best complete team in this tournament, but they
have a they have a cloud really hanging over them,
and I wonder how that plays out if they get
to the Sweet sixteen in the Elite A. And I'll
just ask the question because I think it's a really
valid question to ask. Do you want that storyline in
Houston at the Final four? Do you want that storyline

(01:01:26):
are as a player who has armed security following him
and accompanying him around because he's getting death threats. I
just and me being the cynic that I am, I
could see if a game's typefil Obama and it's and
it's on the customer going to the Final four, I
don't know. I'm just hey, I'm not saying, but I'm

(01:01:48):
just saying, so that's the only thing that I would
look at and say, just kind of watch that and beware,
and you know, if it happens, I'll be the loudest
one saying I told you, guys, I've been trying to
tell you, So that's the thing you just said. I'm
not saying but I'm but I'm just saying, So, how
are you gonna say I told you so? Well, you
just not said it. Well, I'm not saying, but I'm
just saying. I'm covering all my basis. Baby, Steve this

(01:02:09):
saker can make sense of that. If there's one thing
I know he can make sense of, it's everything going
on in the world of sports today. Look at Mike
Trout up to beat Steve. What else is going on?
Mookie Bets has just set a sack Flyve for Team
USA to up the lead in their World Baseball Classic quarterfinal.
This game in Miami tonight on Fox TV four two
US in the fourth against undefeated Venezuela. The Americans got

(01:02:30):
three runs in the first, including Mookie Bets scoring. In fact,
the top three in the order scored in the first
Mookie Bets, Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt. As for college hoops,
one seed Alabama starts up in over an hour, getting
to play in Birmingham against Maryland. Auburn, a nine seed
gets to play in Birmingham and early second half Auburn
leads a one seed Houston forty three thirty night. Again,

(01:02:53):
it's only about three minutes into the second half. UCLA
will be tipping off at roughly twenty minutes in Sacramento
against Northwestern Princeton has just eliminated Missouri seventy eight sixty three.
Princeton is into the Regional semis for the first time
since nineteen sixty seven. San Diego State and Tennessee would
dominant defense today as tex eliminated Furman seventy five fifty two,

(01:03:15):
Tennessee Valls eliminated Duke sixty five fifty two. The Valls
Thursday at Madison Square Garden will face the winner of
the Sunday Night FDU versus FAU game, and Yes, Arkansas
beat one seed Kansas seventy two seventy one. Arkansas will
play the winner of Connecticut Saint Mary's next round Penn
State Texas Underway Texas Longhorns lead after eight minutes eleven

(01:03:38):
six over Penn State. N I second round wins for
Vanderbilt and Cincinnati in the NBA wins today for New
York and the Clippers. Now, the Philadelphia seventy six ers
have won seven games in a row and they're winning
again tonight. In the third quarter. Ninety two seventy seven
at Indiana, tires Maxie with twenty seven points and Golden

(01:03:58):
State is losing again on the road. Late first quarter,
It's Grizzlies twenty nine twenty three over the Warriors. Golden
State on the road is seven and twenty eight this year,
including ten straight road losses since late January, NHL victories
for Boston and Edmonton in progress well now a finally
and overtime Hurricanes win five to four in a comeback
at Philadelphia, and Jordan Speth's one stroke back at the

(01:04:21):
EPG events in Florida, Vacumn. Thanks Stephen goodness gracious. That
means that Princeton has advanced. The last time Princeton advanced
as far New Orleans didn't have a football team. It
was in nineteen nineteen sixty seven was the inaugural season
of the New Orleans Saints, so it would have been
in March of sixty seven, so they didn't have a
football team at the time, the New Orleans Saints did

(01:04:43):
not exist. How about that? You know what they show
the celebration of them walking into the locker room. Some
high fives, is some yeazz, and some fist pumps play
not not jumping around on each other throwing water. I mean,
they almost have the attitude of this is what we
think we should be doing, you know what I'm saying,
Like you can always tell whether teams are surprised, and

(01:05:05):
you're always gonna be happy when you upset the top seed, man,
and you knock somebody out, but you could tell who's
surprised and who's not. I like the way Princeton's carrying himself, man,
and I you know I'd be hard I got to
sleep one and think about it for a few days,
but I'd be hard pressed not to pick them on
Thursday and the Sweet sixteen and see how that pans
out for them. Well, you know, Mitch Henderson, the head
coach of Princeton, did not strip and celebrate his victory

(01:05:29):
on the scorers table like Eric Musselman did earlier. He
not built like he not built like even and from
em That's why he ain't built like on And that's
why exactly I'm going to get into take his shirt
off at any moment, shape, Because it's an epidemic out here, fellas.
You might as well get with it. You should hashtag
that it's an epidemic. Take a shut out at any moment, shape, VJ.
I want you to put that in your next gym post.

(01:05:51):
All right, the next next GM post. I know you
got all your little hash ahead, throw that one in
there as well. Now let's take a second. Nowity games
or kind of at half and at break to talk
about the carousel that is the quarterback free agency moving around.
He got Jimmy G. The Las Vegas Aaron Rodgers. Not
quite yet. I guess he's flying stand by the New
York You go ahead, started where you want to start
with that. I mean we could go with Jimmy G.

(01:06:13):
To me was it was almost you know, gonna be
Once they said they were out of the Aaron Rodgers
sweet stakes, everybody pretty much pinned that. You know, him
heading over there, Bernie Frado over here with us on
Fox Sports Radio. He was on it months ago. I
remember that guy on I was listening to a show
one night to him and I would text him back
and forth and he's like, you know, I'm out here
in Vegas and he says mold, which I love way
more than sources or you know, someone told me. He's like, yeah, listen,

(01:06:37):
there's a more that tells me there. They're they're really
looking to reunite Jimmy Ge. Remember when Jimmy G was
in New England. Uh, Josh mcdals loved him well, they
loved him. They wanted not just McDaniel chick all ready
to move from Brady but Josh loves him, so I
think I think it fits there. They move on from Waller,

(01:06:59):
so I know they have the other Uh Monroe is
Mornee Monroe? Give me his name? I know somebody must Yeah. No, no,
the Titan, the Titan. They have another tight end back Moro. Okay, Moro,
thank you. We said I didn't hadn't know the kids. Okay,
But so I think there's a whole to plug there.
But you know, I always feel like, if if you

(01:07:20):
have a quarterback you like, you go get the guy.
You don't listen to what other people say and what
these pundited talking head said. If that's the guy you want,
that's the guy you go get. So uh, Josh McDaniels
feels like he can work some magic there with Jimmy Garoppolo.
They give him a nice deal. It's making some money.
It's not peanuts, that's for damn sure. So um, you know,
it was kind of like a whatever moved for me,

(01:07:41):
It was nothing that moved my needle. The Aaron Rodgers
stuff now just and I'm still on Aaron's side with
all of this. Man, I know a lot of people
have written them off. I know people got on air
and oh, the packers, they're tired of him, they're ready
to move on from him. Then Aaron Rodgers comes out
and he goes, Okay, well, if that's the case. On
Pat McAfee the other day goes, if that's the case,
then why and it's upthing that you want to move on? Okay, cool,

(01:08:02):
I want to move on. I intend to play for
the Jets now. I believe in word play in life.
I I'm not sure if he's gonna suit up this year,
real talk, I'm not sure if Aaron Rodgers is gonna
suit up this show. I know the fifty million dollars
on the board, but man, that that would be really
hard for me to listen to him, and he goes,
I intend instead of I want. I've been telling y'all,

(01:08:24):
if there's anybody that's gonna be fifty million dollars on
the table, would be Aaron Rodgers. Why, because nobody else would.
That's just like saying that time he could say I'm
the guy that left. I'm the guy that left the
million table, because he's an ultimate spider like he just
does trace to feel like to be in spite of yea,
so he might just hear I'm the guy that went

(01:08:44):
into the darkness. So I've been I've been saying that
since he was, since it was I think it's all
all the way on the board that he might not play.
But when after the McAfee thing, I thought more along
the lines up, it's definitely gonna be in New York.
He's definitely going to be in New York. And because
here's I think the Jets are saying, no, we're not
giving this, We're not giving that because look, we know

(01:09:04):
that you don't that you don't want them anymore, which
to me, two things can be true. You can be
sick and tired of having this guy around you facility
and ready to move on, and he could still be
a high level player. You know what I'm saying. It's
just you just literally don't like to taste as kool
aid no more? Do you think he plays with a
jestic shore? I do? Okay, I do? And I'm up
in the air, man. I I could see Aaron. I

(01:09:25):
can see Aaron retiring and blowing this all up, because
what's gonna be the talk. It's all gonna be all
about Aaron Rodgerson. There are a lot of people that
feel like this guy's a diva. It's always got to
be about him. What better scenario than say, you know what,
I've decided to just retire. I think that when you
have Woody Johnson, who at one point under a different
presidential administration, was serving as the ambassadors who another country

(01:09:48):
from the United States, are right, the multimillion dollars I'm sorry,
billionaire owner of Johnson and Johnson's company. Like he doesn't
take time out of his day to meet with Aaron
Rodgers unless it's about to happen. Right, Do you know
what I'm saying? Once he says go, at that point,
it's go. So it's the Jets holding it up. I mean,
not the jump Scar packers holding it up. They want more. Yeah,

(01:10:09):
So I mean think about if you're a green Bay
why not, Oh we've been. If there's anything green Bay
knows over the last twenty years, it's uncomfortable quarterback situation,
all right, Like that is one thing we the Packers,
we master in that time up there entitled town. All right,
I will sit here with my ayahuasca in the darkness,
having two time MVP this decade. All right, mind you VJ.

(01:10:31):
It's only twenty twenty three. All right, I'll sit there
with and you know what, We'll dangle them out there,
and you know, we want five first round picks New York.
We want five first round picks Priests Hall at Garrett Wilson. Right.
So now, if you're the Jets, you're like, yeah, I'm
not gonna do that, say I'm not gonna do that
because but they're not negotiating against anybody, so they're gonna
have to. So that's what that's where I think where

(01:10:54):
the whole Aaron Rodgers comes out and he says, well,
it's really it's the Packers not agreeing to the conversation. Well,
if I'm the Jets, I'm like, yeah, I'd like Aaron
Rodgers for ten dollars please, you know I'm saying. And
the Packers are like, I would like Aaron Rodgers paying
for you know, I would like move me the sun
and the moon, and then potentially we could discuss about
Aaron Rodgers wearing twelve you know what I'm saying, Like,

(01:11:14):
that's what Karon Packers drawed us out. How far you
guys think this can think realistically? The draft? Yeah, the
draft sounds about I'm curious about how far they can
because right now, Aaron Rodgers is eating up their caps.
Face like, as soon as the deadline pass for free agency,
his cap is on the books for them right now.
If you know, they haven't been making any free agency
moves exactly. They're they're tied up with the money right now.

(01:11:35):
But look, if you're in this situation, you're Green Bay.
You like you said, we have been. Like I said earlier,
they've been in these uncomfortable quarterback moments. You might be
good with this. I was about to say, this is
nothing new to them. They're comfortable right now. Think about it.
You already good with moving on from a two time
MVP again, I'll stress in the last three years. Okay,
you're good with the And it's not like the man

(01:11:55):
just didn't show up for work, right He broke his
thumb Week five, had all rookie receivers anybody. End of
the season, we're starting to turn it on and figure
it out a little bit, all right, because there was
getting rapport. I'm sorry, I don't necessarily think that guy
is I don't think he's cooked. I don't think he's
done yet. Oh no, I don't think he's cooked at all.
I've been Listen, I've been defending Aaron Rodgers and on
this station, and it's never for the last three damn years. Like,

(01:12:17):
I don't think he's over at all. But what I
do think, though, is I'm not sure he still wants
to play. It didn't feel like on Pat McAfee. It
just didn't. It didn't feel like, listen, I'm ready to go.
I talked about, Yeah, if somebody's gonna ask me about
a guy, Yeah, hey, Adam Shefford, lose my number. Tell
you the same thing I told the other lady, lose
my number. I intend to play for the Jets. Just

(01:12:39):
because you intend to do something doesn't mean that's what
you really want to do. Well, it isn't. I think
part of the reason why he says I intend it's
out of his control. Right now. You can say all
he wants, but it's like the Jets guys. He could say,
I mean the Jets. I want to play for the Jets.
That's that's when he says I intend to, Like, that's
why I will play. If the Jets had to come
get me and the Ackers gotta get me up, that's

(01:13:01):
there's like I was saying, it's out of his control.
In that moment, and they got to negotiate that to
make that happen. See knowing Aaron when he says that, Martin,
I feel like that's Aaron being being, you know, the
calculated guy he is. Let me dangle it, let me
use that I intend, because he can always come back
and say, guys, look, I said I intended to play there.
But everything you intend to do in life, you just
doesn't always. I can see air Soul at a press

(01:13:23):
conference saying that, bo I don't think he's going to
retire because I think the crux of this conversation here
is that Aaron Rodgers loves attention, right, yes, yeah, he
doesn't get it as soon as he retire. Have you
seen the four teams that are eligible for hard knocks
this no no, I tweeted the other day. Who gets
hard knocks? I haven't seen it. It's go ahead. It's
the Bears, the Saints, the Commanders, and the New York Jets.

(01:13:44):
So it will be Jets that he gave them the
list of, like, hey, here's guys I want on the Jets.
The Jets are already executing on that because they got
Alan Lazard. They signed Alan Lazar overpaid for him. Yeah,
but they're they're they're going through this assuming that they
must know that Aaron Rodgers wants to play. The Jets
have been doing everything that a team that knows they're

(01:14:06):
going to be getting a big name guys to come
play for them without actually having the big name guy yet.
But so you guys believe Aaron has verbally told the
Jets brass, hey, look, yeah, get me here, Yes, get
me here. I'm playing for you guys this year. Make
it happen. Okay. And that's the hold up. That's why
I hold up. That's why they're like green Bay is like, yeah, okay, cool,
you want them here were you're paying the premium, you're

(01:14:28):
playing forty five percent APR on this contract. Buddy fats,
who's off the board for the Jets, and it's a
player who's who's off if the Packers going, I want
that guy to a who's off the board for the Jets.
I think it's just draft picks at this point. But
I don't think they're gonna get like that Stafford Rams
Pack No. I think green Bay should definitely be trying
to get like a Denzel Mims or something like that. Okay,
trying to get a receiver. But do you ask for sauce?

(01:14:49):
Do you ask for gare you can ask for it?
If you ask, they're gonna laugh at you. Ask for
the damn meadowland, I ask for the stadium where you play.
I asked for your frequent flyer. Mind I would say this.
What would be reasonable is if you are going to
start bringing in ol of Aaron Rodgers friends to start
catching his balls, like uh alive, just ask for a
lot more. Yeah right there you go, Oh yeah, he

(01:15:10):
does actually want to be in New York anymore. But
right now, look ended up like tournament in full swing,
Houston hanging on by a thread. Right now, what about
twelve minutes left in the second half with a one
point lead. Actually it's a tie game, is all? Just
makes that free throw? Have more on the ends up
play tournament and Uncle Vj's Corner Coming up next, Martin
and VJ. Martin and VJ coming to you live from

(01:15:30):
the tie rack dot Com studios, and it's time for
the segment that sweeps the nation every week around this
time Uncle Vj's Corner. All right, everybody gather around, It's
that time of the week. All man It's that time
of the day. I'm gonna telling you all, man, Yes,
it's time for everyone's favorite Uncle Andy. You add the

(01:15:52):
cherry on the top. It's time for Uncle Vj's Corner. Yes,
as always, man, and welcome to Uncle BJ's corn on
vj rn Husk Vanilla Funny sitting over chilling on Funny
Drive in Handsome Avenue. Y'all come sit on the bench
while Newland's beautiful in La got out the seventy two
degrees today. No more rain in the monsoon. Man. Yeah, see,

(01:16:13):
because I want to tell y'all the story about this
week's Vanilla Brother of the week. Man, I wait to
tell you about he a brother was born back in
April eighth and nineteen seventy seven and Madison, Wisconsin. He
was raised in Oregon, Wisconsin. Yes there is a Oregon, Wisconsin,
where he faced a lot of racial teases and torments, man,
which helped his competitive drive. His words, not mine. Did

(01:16:33):
well in high school. Actually turned down Harvard University. Who
turns down Harvard University unless you're going to another Ivley school?
To go to Kenyon College and Gambier, Ohio, where he
graduated Magma Coon lah On race issues, and he also
wanted to make a difference and the great migration that
was going on at the time and earned himself a degree.

(01:16:53):
There was a four year starter. He still holds the
school records for season assists one eighty four and career
assists at five fifty two. His senior year he was
a North Coast Athletic First Team guy. He was an
NCAC Scholar Athlete of the Year in the nineteen ninety
nine USA Today All Academic Team. His coaching career started

(01:17:15):
out in a California, Pennsylvania, Yes there's a California, Pennsylvania
as an assistant, then went on the AKRON Clemson Florida.
Y'all remember that Florida program Back in the early mid
two thousands. They won back to back national championships under
Billy Donovan. Then he got his big shot man at
VCU in two thousand and nine to two thousand and fifteen,
and while he was there went to a Final four,
compiling a record of one sixty three and fifty six.

(01:17:38):
Then he got the big money, got paid to go
to Texas from fifteen to twenty one, went n I
ten oneted in two thousand nineteen. Overall record was one
nine and eighty six. Wasn't good enough there. They shipped
him out and fired him. Man, he bounced back. He
is now the head coach at Marquette. He has been
there since twenty twenty one. He has forty eight and sixteen.
He won the Big East regular season. He won the

(01:17:59):
Biggest Turn him at this year. And that's added to
a C double, a turn and a Atlantic ten tournament,
a Big twelve tournament, and the Big eastins I mentioned,
and also he's the twenty twenty two or twenty three
Big East Coach of the Year. I always tell you, guys,
to be a vanilla Brother of the week, you need
the three seeds. You need to stay cool, calm and
be collected man. And nobody has done that better in

(01:18:20):
my opinion of coaches and his age group than my man,
Shaka de GANI smart overall coaching record three twenty one,
sixty one sixty six percent. That's pretty good, guys, five
and oh in the n I eight and nine an
attorney and he has his team fighting later today or tomorrow,
I'm not sure when the marqutt plays again to get
into the sweet sixteen. Hey man, for all the stuff

(01:18:42):
he went through a Texas where they wanted that man
out of there. After showing up and getting VCU to
the final four. He didn't let none of that stuff
bothering him. All he did was reset himself to two rs.
I love to tell people, man, relax and release my
man Shaka Smart. This week, brother, I'm proud of you, man.
Congratulations on what you've done at Marquette. You are the
vanilla brother of the week. Week week also also underrated

(01:19:07):
Shaka Smart coming back from bald rarely see that you said.
You mentioned that last week. Mostly that man to the
time and guys go ball. They stay Bald Smart with
ball as a decision, no matter what you say, strong choice.
You said. He graduated Madman cum laude. My mom had
a good shing that reminds me of this moment, especially

(01:19:27):
as I watched Mars Madness, which again this instructed me
which way to go in college? Right, going from somewhere else,
There's three ways to graduate Magna cum laude, Summa cum laude,
and thank you laude and thank I graduated, thank you Lord,
And that's for shock. I like that. The day I
graduated from high school, when I came home for the party,

(01:19:48):
I got home, there was a big banner outside on
the garage that said I came, I crammed, I graduated,
And I thought, okay, yeah, cool joke, family, but actually
made me feel kind of bad, like, damn, I wasn't
that bad at high mom. But I get it. Man,
it's always fun stuff. Well, speaking up being that bad
in high school. None of these kids playing right now,
we're that bad in high school. We'll get more into
March Madness coming up next. Martin and VJ Fox Sports Radio.

(01:20:11):
You got that right, Martin Wis VJA Husky broadcasting live

tire buying should be. Right now, we got Houston with
a five point lead, and Steve de Sager just updated

(01:20:32):
you on everything else Houston right now. I mean, look,
it's been a dangerous tournament for one seed so far.
I'll just say that this first weekend it's bloody. It
was the bloody first weekend, the red first weekend, like
the Red wedding and Game of Thrones VJ. You'll see
that soon, So I won't. I won't. I won't watch
game already, got y'all watching me one show. I'm watching Sopranos.

(01:20:54):
I'm in season three now, but I won't be. You
guys aren't gonna put me on all these damn shows
that y'all watch. I don't have to time, man, I don't.
I'm not watching Game of Thrones, ice dragons and ice
wizards and all of that stuff. But with this Houston game,
it just feels like they're starting to just settle in
and their toughness is starting to show. We know they're
a great defensive team. Arbur's got fifty one points on

(01:21:14):
the board. They only have fifty six, but last time
I check fifty six and more than fifty one, so
seven fifty two left on the clock. It really feels like,
um and not excuse me, the Houston is starting to
kind of really settle in with their defense. Everything Auburn's
getting is tough. There's there's such thing as easy buckets,
regular buckets. It's just hard buckets. Every bucket they're getting
right now just feels like a hard bucket. He was

(01:21:36):
just gonna have to stop fouling because they keep putting
them on a free throw line and keeping him in
his game. It should be at least a nine to
ten point lead right now, and it's only down to
four with another free throw coming up here. And Houston again,
like I alluded to this earlier in the show, but
one of the better teams over the last decade or
show of college basket. Let's call the last you seven
or eight years of college basketball Sweet sixteen and twenty nineteen,

(01:21:58):
Final four, twenty twenty one, Elite eight, twenty twenty two,
and obviously right here playing in the second round against Auburn.
You know, in terms of I don't want to say
the many eras almost of college basketball, especially now with
you know, guys leaving in a year, two year, three years, Uh,
Houston has been able to sustain a little bit of
a four or five year run of success right where

(01:22:21):
you see other schools have not been able to in
the Houston again a smaller in terms of name school,
but Houston is a huge city, and it's very attractive,
third largest city in America, it's and it's very attractive
in terms of a place to go play. So it'll
be interesting industry, Mabe. We'll see more of schools like

(01:22:43):
Houston that are heavily motivated to be good at basketball
because the rabid fan base that exists there in the
city to see if they continue. But man, when you
get a guy like get gyle A Sampson there coaching,
they can turn these programs around. We just talked a
boy the word Rick Barnes tennis. You know Tennessee, Bruce
Pearl was there, but before that, Tennessee was just so

(01:23:03):
dormant as far as basketball went. And then you get
Bruce Pearl, Bruce Pearl leaves, and then you get a
Rick Barnes, and Rick Barnes comes in and kind of
elevates the program back up. So college basketball, much like
college football, has a lot to do with coaching. The
guy that the men look to when tom's are tough,
when you need instruction, when you need a leader. You know,

(01:23:26):
great leadership starts at the top. And we also know
great leadership it doesn't happen when you're there. Great leadership
happens when you're not around. Just like being a parent,
right your kids are at their best when you're not around.
You're doing your job. When you're getting, you know, calls
from neighbors in school and police and stuff like that. Yeah,
you might, you might need a question about what's going
on as far as your leadership is concerned. But with

(01:23:47):
college basketball, man, it's all about coaching. And if you
think about it, in the last three years, look will
be've lost Roy Williams retired, Coach k retired, and behind
As now retired. Like those are three legend iconic coaches.
So coaching coaching matters, man, coach is very important. Let's

(01:24:07):
turn the corner to the NBA for just a moment. Here,
the Memphis Grizzlies look like they're about to take a
twelve point lead into halftime over the Golden State Warriors VJ.
There's a lot on the bone here, right because you
have the Warriors in the process of losing their eleventh
straight road game. Man, I mean they only have seven
road wins on the season. That is one more than

(01:24:28):
the Rockets and the Spurs, and they are last. Do
they have more romans than the Pistons, Let's see, I'm
not about to tell you right now, man, No they
do not, So the piss So my Pistons, we're doing
good at least song at least some we got more
Roman than the Warrior. They're both tied right now at seven. However,
I would think that the whole premise of what I'm

(01:24:49):
saying is the Warriors are historically bad on the road.
So I don't know if you can say the Pistons
are doing anything good. Man, I'm listening. I'm trying to
find some shot in like my Pistons. But go ahead, going.
The shining will be coming next season if that is
the case. But you got a few different angles here
we talked about with Medina and the Warriors and will
they get it together. They're going in a halftime Commingians

(01:25:11):
got fifteen, Clay's got ten, Steph has eight. However, the
Grizzlies have a twelve point lead, and the Grizzlies are
out point guard John Morant, who is missing time due
to Instagram Live. Yeah, what we talked about the Instagram
live scratch scratch, Yeah, where we talked about the words
with Medina. So let's stick with the with the Grizzlies
on this one. The Grizzlies are a team. I'm honestly

(01:25:33):
right now really trying to figure them out because I
didn't I think a lot of people felt without jaw
they would fall a little bit, and to their credit,
they haven't. They've won some games. I thought they were
gonna lose. They're still hanging around in the standing, sitting
at number three right now, six and four in their
last ten and they're tied right now with Sacramento. The
fall had the precipitous fall down the mountains, it's not

(01:25:54):
occurred six and four in their last ten. So I
actually will tip my hat once again that Sea were
coaching the coaching. Did you see the article that came
out and the report that from now on they will
not stay overnight in cities like my hit Me and
other you know known party type Sea they will they
will now leave. They will now leave. They will now
leave these cities. They're not staying overnight because the incident

(01:26:16):
that happened with Joan Morand and the Strip Club. Remember
I text you that night when we got home. I said, damn,
I wish I had to sit on the air. Where
were they? Remember, we didn't know because they were playing
the Clippers on Sunday, not gotten out yet where they
where they were? So I was like, hold up, So
did they fly to La and stay and then when
they got here in La late at night, he went
out and so, okay, or did the team leave him

(01:26:37):
in Denver? He stays behind, goes to the Strip Club. No,
the teams stay. We'll think about this earlier this season.
I know it's football to basketball, but it was very,
very publicized when Tim Brady went to Robert Kraft's wedding
and then ended up not flying to Pittsburgh, I believe
with the team, and that was a discussive, big thing. Yeah,

(01:26:59):
I would have known, Okay, i'd not been on the
team plane. The problem really and at that point in
time and something that the end of NBA has investigated
and determined that was not the case. My big question was,
I presume John Murrett makes his primary residence in Memphis, Yeah,
all right, and primary residents where he keeps most of
his things, including probably his firearms. Yeah, so when he

(01:27:21):
had a gun somewhere in either Colorado, then it's like,
all right, now, how did the gun travel there? That's
where you get into the YO. All right, it's a
legal carry here, it's a legal carry there. But in
between times you got to go through TSA and not
necessarily TSA if you fly private, but if you fly private,
you're still not supposed to be flying around with handguns.

(01:27:43):
And so that was my big thing about this. But
eligible to return as of Monday, And it's not about
coming Monday if he's going to be good to play,
it's about whether or not he's going to be in condition.
I think you're being in a condition. He's young, he's
twenty three years old. Man, is this these You know
these kids can wake up and get a choice box
in the back of the ridos included the court and
drop thirty. He's a very talented player, as a top

(01:28:04):
ten player in the league. Let's backtrack a little bit
to some things that's happened with this whole Moran thing.
We've covered so much of it, but at the end
of the day, you do look at it and you go, okay.
The eight game suspension came and they included the sixth
that he's already had, which I didn't like because it's like,
whoa that that wasn't a suspension. We were told he
was just being away from the team. The worst suspension
was never thrown out there. I was on that the

(01:28:25):
day of that's yeah, that's I said. The day they
put that out of that too. I say, yeah, this
is BS, this is the NBA, this is the likable,
this is the players Commissioner Adam Silver kind of giving
him a pat on the hand, on the back of
the hand, like, okay, bad boy, you touched like like
I do a journey. Don't don't turn off the TV.
I don't like you turning off. And she gets in
the mood which she wants to push the button off

(01:28:46):
and on off. No, don't turn the TV. So I
got tapped a little hand. Hey, don't turn the TV off. Okay,
now you know, don't do it again. That's what it
felt like. Then the interview came the other night, which
I was really turned off by. I was completely turned
off by the interview. I am on the side. I
will stand on the side now. I ask the question
a few weeks ago, I said, I think we should
be weary of Oh, he's not that he's trying to

(01:29:07):
be something he's not openly said we should not. I don't.
Let's not do that because we don't know what and
who he is. But I tell you all the time,
sometimes you guys make fun of me. I'm a body
watcher man. I watch I watch your body language. I
was trained to do it in the military. The way
the way you answer questions is like in interrogation inter
inngration room, right, interrogation room. They can tell when you're lying.

(01:29:30):
When Jayleen Rose asked him whose gun was it, look like, dude,
what what kind of what kind of first forty eight
questions of these man like are you kidding me? And
he's just like, look, I don't I don't condone violence. Really,
did you not tweet? It? Don't cost nothing to fill
these hollows if y'all don't know what that is, hollow
tip bullets. You don't condone violence. You and your mom

(01:29:51):
a confronted girl at the school for using a female
dog word back and forth with your sister. You don't
condone violence. You don't condone violence. You get in a
fight with a seventeen year old kind and you're back
y'all playing ball. You're going the house to come out
with a gun and your waist, man with your hand
on your waist. You don't condone violence. You don't condone violence.
Your mother gets into it with a guy finished life
the local ball and you show it with nine guys
and in the shacurity guard gets punched in the face.
You don't condone violence. I warned people to stop saying

(01:30:14):
he's trying to be something he's not. What if he
just what if? This is who he is? Guys? And
now it's just to the point where it's all on
Front Street. But the NBA ain't gonna do nothing about it.
Dog a game suspension Martin with six already served that
was supposed to be time away. Come on, I look,
come on, I hear what everybody's saying. I flat out

(01:30:37):
look the idea. He's suspended for two more games on
top of six, and he got time served. Listen, I
don't know how many people listening to my voice right
now have going through the court process. But generally, when
you miss some time, you do get time, get time,
you do get time serve. You've been waiting for your trial,
all right, that's the way it goes. It's like that
time still counts, right, he still didn't play, he still

(01:30:57):
didn't get paid. So the biggest issue probably that we
all kind of have here when you really break it
down to the fact that Memphis said away from the team,
as if it was John's choice to be away from
the team, right, So I understand that, but the overarching
premise of time served is one that I I agree with.
All right, So I don't I can't get too caught

(01:31:19):
up into all that, but I will say he say
he was suspended to begin with that, and I said
it at the time. I don't know what the difference
between being suspended and being away from the team, but
I know this, if he wanted to be with the team,
that would have said you gotta be away from the team,
which means something that It ain't like he's choosing right
now to just take vacation. And I've talked to a
therapist in my life before, I've gone through therapy in

(01:31:40):
my life performed You don't change in eleven days, ladies
and genlem, I don't. Here's the thing that everybody he
has exhibited reckless behavior. I don't think that's arguable. But
in terms of breaking laws, right, in terms of like
like serious like and when you're looking when we're looking
at yeah, I know it will feel great if Adam

(01:32:01):
Silver could throw the book quote unquote at John Moran.
But like when I sit there and just evaluate the
ins and outs. Now, don't get me wrong, the lesson
that John needs to learn is dog on it. The
lesson that John needs to learn right is simply because

(01:32:21):
nothing happened in that scenario does not mean nothing could
have happened. I'll challenge you to this. There's been people.
I mean, I want to say everybody does it, because
not everybody does it, but a lot of people will
have a drink or two or three and get behind
the wheel of a car thinking they're good. And you'll
hear people say, you know what, I'm a good drunk driver.

(01:32:42):
And you know what I say to that, No, you
are not a good drunk driver. You have not felt
the ramifications of what happens when you are you when
you misjudge that calculation. You haven't judged that. You have
not experienced that yet. And I would encourage you, if
you could hear my voice, to never experience it. And
that doesn't mean exactly, doesn't mean to try to play

(01:33:05):
the line. That means to step all the way away
from the line and don't play at all. Now, does
John Moran have to change who he's around? I think
that's an unexcusable way to describe what needs to happen.
And the thing about the Jailing Rose interview that had
me hung up. It was a lot about what we
need to do and what we need to do and
what we need to do, and the only person who

(01:33:26):
needs to do anything is you, John Moran. It's what
you cut everybody else out of your scenario. Because here's
the deal. That shouldn't have been your gun. If it
wasn't your gun, whoever had it should have never let
you have it in your hand. Now, if that's somebody's
letting you have it in your hand, it's not somebody
that you need to be around. You don't have to
tell You don't have to take it, though, but you

(01:33:47):
don't have to take it though. I understand if I
want to hand you some I get it. But if
I'm an alcoholic, I'm not hanging out in the bar. Okay.
If I'm alcoholic, I'm not hanging out in the bar,
all right. And if I have a friend that is
offering me drinks, I'm telling you, look no, I said no,
don't get that to me. And if they offer it again,
I have to reevaluate my friendship. At this point, I

(01:34:07):
don't think it's I mean, I'm not even trying to
be silly, but you has a gun of hauling. He
got a gun in every one of these dog walls. Yeah,
you know what I'm saying. So look, that's that's few
of his home. That's my biggest concern. In this country,
where gun ownership is overwhelmingly legal and accepted, right, we
don't argue about that a lot. We are change gun
laws every time there's a school shooting. I understand, and
I'm not trying to make light of that by any means,

(01:34:29):
But the laws are the laws. John Morant didn't break
none as far as I can tell in this moment.
So that's why I really had the trouble with He's
supposed to miss more than a tenth of the season
for this like now, he absolutely needs to learn from
his mistakes, because his mistakes could could lead into much
graver and much more serious problems that Instagram live photo

(01:34:52):
or a screenshot could have. I mean, all it takes
is one slip on that trigger, boom, youach hay to
bob yourself in the foot and guess what, shooting yourself,
shooting somebody else. And then that's the other thing. This
country will let you do a whole lot. They don't
care like this country who don't care if you're sit
in your house and get you get drunk as a
skunk every single night. But the minute you get out
into the world, are you impact your partner with that

(01:35:13):
or you get into the world and you impact somebody
else with your public intoxication or something along those lines.
That's when it hit the book on you. I don't
care what he does at his home, it's it's when
it impacts everybody else, and that's what he needs to learn.
That's what I'm concerned. The reason why he should have
been suspended more is because the message that you're sending
in the image that you're portraying with hold of you're
an NBA superstar and I don't care to use at

(01:35:34):
a strip club, I don't care that there was fifty
thousand dollars all on the floor. I don't care about
the video that they came out with the stripper dancing
on it. That's what happens at the strip club. Ladies
and gentlemen, if you ain't never been to one, I
would implore you to go have fun one night and
go to one so you can see what this is.
But demendment, the image of having and holding up the
gun when you are on team time. I don't care

(01:35:54):
if you're not playing. Right now, you're on team time
and you're still at work kind of sort of know
the game's not over. You're on a road trip. Well,
you're a representative. Yeah, you're a representator, so in a
representative of the NBA. That's why I thought, not the book.
I'm not that guy, but I thought would have been
suitable of Silver to said, Look, man, I gotta sit
you for ten. I gotta I gotta sit you for ten.

(01:36:15):
You'll be back for the playoffs or towards towards the
end of the season and get right, but I gotta
sit you down. Jah, Listen. We like you, man, you know,
we like you. We love what you do for the league.
We don't want to ruin this for you, but I
do gott to send a message as the commissioners league.
I gotta sit you down for ten. I don't care
about these games you've already been saying. Now from this
point forward. Today you got ten games and the season.
That's the fourth of the season for a guy, and

(01:36:35):
this in the quarter of law. Okay, no, no, but
it's not about that though. But you still all right
work But all right, well we're still you gotta go
back and look at some of the other I mean,
you can do something. Hold on, what do you know what?
We'll do this in a second after the break, because
we're already over all right, Martin and VJ continue this
conversation and looking on the NCLBA March Madness Tournament as
when we come forward Fox Sports Radio. That's right, Martin

(01:36:56):
VJ coming to you alive from the tire Rack dot
com studios. And at the end of your first year,
Discover credit cards automatically double all the cash back you've earned.
That's right, everything you earned, it's doubled. Seriously, see terms
to check it out for yourself at Discover dot com.
Slash Match. Yeah, we are starting to see VJ, as
you just mumbled before we've got into the As we

(01:37:19):
got into this segment, does seem like the powers that
be are starting to write the ship a little bit.
As Houston takes an eleven point lead on our ten
point lead on Auburn with about two minutes two and
a half minutes left, Texas is starting to stretch out
a little bit on Penn State in the second half.
They're seeing these lower seeds advanced, but it has been

(01:37:41):
a Saturday, bloody Saturday in the tournament right now as
one seeds falling everywhere, two seeds following everywhere. Hello Barely Dickinson.
Hello not only that, man. I think one years, some
of these top season you played later in the day.
You can't tell me you don't know the scores from
these other games. You feel me like you can't tell
me you're that isolated as a nineteen twenty year old

(01:38:03):
with the cell phone with social media accounts, that Kansas
didn't lose, especially if you're Texas. They're played after them.
They already beat them twice this year, beat them in
a conference championship game, and then went into Rock Chalk
Jayhawk out in Lawrence and put it on them earlier
in the year in the regular season two. So I
think you kind of like, hey, we don't want to
be these teams. Man, Let's let's go out and handle business.

(01:38:24):
We saw what happened to Purdue last night, we saw
what happened in Uva, we saw what happened in Arizona.
We don't want to be that team. We don't want
to be those guys. And I think there's something to
be said for that. Let's just go out and let's
put our foot down. I said, maybe about ten minutes ago,
I felt like Houston was starting to assert himself defensively,
one of the top defensive teams in the nation, but
we know they also can score points. Two offers got

(01:38:45):
sixty three points. That's not gonna get it done against
the top top seed in this tournament. You're gonna have
to score more points than that. Still two minutes to
go an eight point game. I've seen a lot happen
in my lifetime in basketball. I just don't feel that
i'll happened here. And even in the UCLA game, it
looks like you CLA starting to stretch out a little
bit of Northwestern up eleven, twenty five, sixteen in the
first half. So I think when you get to this

(01:39:06):
part of the day, these teams they've they've seen what's
happened earlier. You don't want that to be you. You
know what I'm saying is it's hard to go first, right,
you don't want that to be you. So uh yeah,
the the the big dogs starting to flex state muscles
on the front porch. A little bit man, little pooch
has gotta gotta gotta go to the side, y'all gotta
go to the backyard. Big dogs on the front porch.
Right now, speaking of big dogs on the front, coach

(01:39:26):
on the front porch. Uh, little Dick, he's got a
commercial with Taco right here from Odd Future. It's going
to be the my least favorite commercial, uh in about
a month. Who I don't know, I don't know. I
just wantic and the best coke ever that is. I'm
going to hate that commercial very much in the same

(01:39:46):
vein of Scoop there it is scoop that commercial. You
kidding me? Cha sprinkle so often you come with it back, Commercius,
do you take? You take a take, and then you
just take this way? I put it on the fridge.
Stop it. That's easily. Oh god, I love that call

(01:40:10):
show you horrendous Dad and they're doing the kid in
play and they kitchen. Come on, man, get in on this, crisp.
I know you want to say something. I don't think Christmas,
I'm annoyed by this that just evenmember, I'm annoyed that
I have to now remember that commercial. Oh my god. Yeah,
but you guys love playing a ran Carry's Christmas song
in here to irritate me all holiday damn season. It

(01:40:34):
always comes back to Christmas with you because I hate
that song and you guys are doing that on purpose
for like three straight weeks. And remember you and I
were filling in like crazy during the holiday season. So
I was on We were on three four different shows
in a two week span. And every time, every time,
every time I would say that we would come back
from break, and whether it was I was Sam or

(01:40:56):
whether it was Alex or whether it was Bobo and Chris,
you guys, they would always sit here. H was a
hype hype dobe beast. You guys would all sit here
and play that song. And I don't allow you if
you do anything like that's all. That's what I'm gonna play,
and I do. I hate that song anyway, man, I'm sorry.
The Tag Team Scoop dat is commercial. That's a dope commercial. There,
y'all look crazy. Y'all look crazy. Martin great commercial, Absolutely

Sager and ask did another one seas got eliminated in
this dog oning thing? No, Steve, what's going on? Come

(01:41:40):
back when? For one seed Houston, they're counting down the
final thirty seconds in Birmingham, Auburn's gonna fall in the
second round of the NCAA Tournament. Houston Cougars trailed by
ten at the half. They had foul trouble with their
guards each with four and sat a lot in the
second half, really in a lot of the last ten minutes.
And still Houston is up now with twenty seconds to go,

(01:42:03):
eighty one sixty four against Auburn. And yes, he played
the All American for Houston, Marcus Sasser, despite the groin
injury of the last week. Twenty points in this game,
five three pointers. The rest of his team was two
of thirteen from long distance. But Houston is going to advance.
Texas A two seed is leading thirty nine twenty mega

(01:42:25):
forty one thirty two against Penn State early in the
second half. UCLA A two seed out to a twenty
eight fifteen lead against Northwestern late in the first half
and the late game in roughly half an hour will
have number one overall seed Alabama playing in Birmingham against Maryland.
Among the earlier games, one seed Kansas fell and coach
Bill Self at KU was still out got out of

(01:42:46):
the hospital. Last Sunday, Arkansas trailed most of the day
and still won the game seventy two seventy one. Kansas
had led eleven to two early, led by twelve early
second half, but the Jayhawks are out. Princeton beat Missouri
seventy eight sixty three. San Diego States defense dominated Furman
seventy five fifty two. Tennessee balls with more great defense,

(01:43:07):
eliminating Duke sixty five fifty two to the NBA. Philadelphia
has won its eighth straight game, one forty one to
one twenty one at Indiana, as Philly shot sixty one
percent from the floor. Joel and beat another thirty one
points victories today for New York and Orlando, which beat
the Clippers in LA one thirteen one oh eight. Toronto

(01:43:27):
has downed Minnesota one twenty two one oh seven. Anthony
Edwards in Minnesota did not play last night. He left
with a sprained ankle. NHL Boston with another victory. Jordan
Spieth is one stroke back at the PGA event in
Florida and at the World Baseball Classic quarterfinal from Miami
on Fox TV. Undefeated Venezuela has taken the lead six
five over the US now bottom of the sixth inning.

(01:43:50):
The Americans had the early edge with three runs in
the top of the first starter at lance Land four innings,
two runs allowed for the US gave up the two
on a homer bottom of the first, but the US bullpen,
including Daniel bard the Rockies closer, was awful in the
fifth inning, allowing four runs. Bartin loaded the bases, then
a wild pitch for a run, then reloaded the bases

(01:44:10):
before he left. Jose al Tube of Venezuela has left
the game hit by pitch on the hand. By the way,
Venezuela leads six five over the US bottom of the
sixth on Fox TV. Back Team. Thanks Steve Martin and VJ.
Coming to you live from the tire rack dot Com studios.
As Steve just updated, you want all the ENCLA March
Madness game, don't worry, We're also keeping an eye on

(01:44:32):
them as well. But VJ, I do want to ask
you was the bottom of the West looks like a
disaster right now. And Bo came in here, Lakers fan extraordinary,
and he said, you know what, I no one really
sticks in my crawls. Lakers sad and like weeks. I mean, look, look,
we did have the Eagles run through the NFC. So

(01:44:53):
for a lot of time, Bo was sitting back there like,
I all right, I got the other nerds some worry
about it, baby, he was. He was, I saw what
Boat Swee did last night. I don't know if he's
deleted it yet, but he was in his feelings. Yeah,
I mean, it's a big time in his feelings. And
the reason why he's in his feelings is because if
it really depends right now, if the Utah Jazz decide
they want to make the play in or if they
want to continue the tank, whether or not, both team
is gonna go ahead and make this thing. We've all

(01:45:14):
been seen here. What the Laker is gonna do, what
the Leka is gonna do. That has nothing to do
what the Lakers are gonna do. They're gonna lose to
bad teams. It doesn't matter at all about Utah. Is
you talking a tank or not? And you know, you know,
a fan is really in their feelings when they start
their sentence with you know what I really hate about
being such a such fan, And that's how and that's
how you started a sentence. He's like, yes, you know
what I hate about being a Laker fan. It's like, damn,

(01:45:36):
I know, but I listen. I still think they have
a chototte. They're in the ten right now, Guys, right
there in the ten, they're tie with Houston, so they
have the tiebreaker there. I still would stand and say
I think they make the play in. I just don't
know if they're gonna make the playoffs from the play in.
That really all depends on what Lebron wants to do.
Looking stupid fresh in the black suit. By the way,

(01:45:57):
I'm really over the sunglasses indoors things, almost like too
cool for school. I always thought that was stupid. I
don't care who you are, what platform you're on, it
doesn't you go inside take your damn son glad. They're
called sun glasses and there's no sun indoors anywhere. Anyway,
the suit did look very fresh, dough. Lebron look super sharp,
hey man. The Warriors and the Timberwolves both lost today,

(01:46:21):
so well, the Warriors are still playing. Now, they're on
the road, so they got a terrible shot at pulling
this one out this season where they had a total
of seven road wins. But there is a nine point game,
was six thirty left in the third quarter. Don't you worry?
They could still The Celtics are up on the Jazz,
so you know, until the Lakers play the Magic tomorrow

(01:46:42):
and somehow lose by thirty five points, I still think
they make the playing guys, But the play offs, like
when the eight teams are set, I don't think they're there,
but I still think they make the play in. And
the play in is gonna depend on whether it's successful
or not, whether Lebron decides this is worth him suiting
up to play, or if the foot's really hurt or iled.
I think that's the caveat if they if they put

(01:47:04):
the team on the court now that they have, I
think they could get into the playing. But then you
gotta win two right, isn't that how to plan? Because
they're the ten, so they would have to go in
the road both times, correct, they would have to win
two games. They would have to win two games. Okay,
they would have to win two games, and the two
games would be either against Oklahoma City, the Timberwolves or
the Warriors, and or whoever loses, they would have to
play the winner or the loser of their first game,
and such as such, so on and so forth. But

(01:47:25):
if they lose that first game, as the tenth tee,
they would be out. Correct. Yeah, this whole, this whole
playing things still new to me. I think it's stupid.
I still think it's stupid. I think it's worthless, but
I get why the NBA's doing it. I don't think
it's stupid or not worthless because at this point in time, honestly,
there's more intrigue at the bottom of the standings than
there is at the top of the standing What does
it really mean, though, Martin? It means there's something to

(01:47:46):
talk about. So that's why I'm a fan of the
play in. However, I think right now, let's make a decree,
right now, Martin and VJ decree and that they can
to play in does not count as a playoff. Third,
you are not saying this. If you are not, if
you are not in the one through eight when it's

(01:48:08):
all shout you done, you get zero credit. No thank you,
go home, good day, sir. Yeah, I'm with you. I'm
That's that's an easy one. I thought you had a
hard one for us. Man. That's easy. If you're not
one of the top eight when the playoffs are set
one through eight, you get no credit from making the player.
Are they gonna make that a thing? You guys think
they're gonna start to make that a thing like hey, hey,

(01:48:30):
he's carried them to the play in three straight. That
guys carry them to the playing right, they're gonna start
to do that, right. The only thing that you can
clean from the play in all right? John Morin and
his first playing game was a baller and was in
his rookie year. Second year, I forget because of COVID
and the bubble at all runs together. But whenever he

(01:48:51):
had the first opportunity to play in the playing game
went nuts. Second opportunity to playing in the playing game
went nuts. All right. That's about it. That's about it.
An individual performance in an elimination game is about the
only credit I will give to anybody. After this play
in situation has done, Lebron comes up, has fifty eight
and the playing loss, I'll tip my cat. I'll tip

(01:49:14):
my cap. I'll leave my catalon. I'm about to say
your cat, I leave your catalone. Man, Boa question for
you man get it? Because yeah, yeah, I like talking
NBA bo bo. Who's when you really look at the West?
And I Martin and I we were just talking to
doing a commercial break. Two teams I'll just say their name?
Can you could we really say? We can see and
the two twenty three World NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets

(01:49:35):
are the Sacramento Kings. Who's really okay, that's who's coming
out of the West. Bro. I you know what's weird
is for the longest time, at least as long as
I've been alive and watching the NBA, the West has
been the juggernaut conference, right, Like that's where all the
good teams were, and it's kind of it's kind of switched.

(01:49:56):
I don't like any of these teams in the West
because almost every single one of them there's some have
you you have to attach to that team winning the title. Yeah,
we're kind of back to the nineties where the West
was just a joke. Like the Nuggets are good, but
no one trusts them to win a playoff series. Like
it's it's yo kitchen. You know, I guess Jamal Murray
if he shows up and then and then nobody nobody
trusts the King. Well they're the king. They called the King.

(01:50:18):
The Grizzlies, Like, the Grizzlies can't thank you. The Grizzlies
can't stay on the road because they're all like ten
years old and act like Kevin Kevin Durant twisted his
ankle before the home opener. Who knows when he's gonna
be back? Like in the layup line the clippers, like, yeah,
the clippers are on paper really good. But it's all
of the things that that's the reason why I bet

(01:50:42):
like the Beam last week, because look, the only thing
that we're talking about, the only reason why we say
that Kings can't win the West. And I know this
could be clipped and I could sound like a real
jerk and in three weeks, right, but the only reason
that we're staying that Kings can't win the West is
because we haven't seen him seen him win. Right, But
that's but like that is simply be because we have
not seen something happened. Like you would have lost a

(01:51:02):
lot of money if you bet on Purdue because you've
never seen or you bet on Virginia against UNBC because
you've never seen the sixteenc That's why they play the games, right,
That's why they got to play the games and listen
when they do play the games. Seven is different from
one though. But the NBA got this new they got
this new award VJ. It goes to the player who's
to clutches at the end of the at the end
of the games. Right, I don't know how to measure

(01:51:24):
and clutch by different statistics and measurables, but it's an
award that goes out to Jerry West Award. The Terror
Fox gonna win that thing by a list slide. You
like the Kings, Look, I don't like everybody else. They
can score like almost at well, so like they can

(01:51:44):
definitely get hot and knock somebody out one night. Yeah,
but it's just hard. And look just a few years ago,
if I told you that the Toronto Raptors we're gonna
be the NBA champions, you would have laughed at me.
When I'm gonna go listen to more Drake. But when
they got Kawhi though, there there were people that came
around that. But I want to really stick to the

(01:52:05):
Kings because you guys, you make great points. But I'm
just okay, they can score both say they could score you, right,
they could put one thirty on you, But do you
trust it? In game four, Game five against the same
team in May. None of these kids have been there.
The only guy that's been there is Mike Brown. None
of these kids have been there. Do you trust them to?
And serious is tied it two too? And you gotta

(01:52:27):
get game three? I mean asking me game five. I'm
going off what I have seen this season periods stop,
from this start of this season to right now. I
trust them more than everybody damn else. So that's that's all.
Then that's a common alley with the Raptors that you're
talking about with Kawhi, Like there was literally nobody else
to trust the East. There's no this year. And don't

(01:52:48):
get me wrong, Kevin Durant doesn't pop it, you know,
and Clay Thoms don't get hurt. They probably don't win it.
Oh no, that's true. They did. Like I like, we're
looking at all of this again. The only reason that
we sit there, well, you know, we never seen the
Aaron Fox on the big stage. It's like, well, at
a certain point, you had never seen anybody on the
big stage until they got to the big stage. And

(01:53:10):
that's I say that a lot when when people say, oh,
I don't know if this team can can do anything,
like people saying, O that Jets aren't gonna win anything.
The Bengals, you know, up until two years ago, they
were an absolute joke and then all of a sudden,
Joe burrows there and they've been in two straight AFC
title games and almost one the super Bowl. Like, yeah,
the Chiefs were nobody. The Packers had like so many
down years in the eighties, like at some point and

(01:53:34):
those guys, yeah, they were horrible at some point that
Michael Jordan couldn't even get out of the East because
the Pistons kept we could get out the first round, right, yeah, yeah,
So I mean it's always we've never seen it before
until we actually see it. I get that part. I'm
just having trouble everybody else I got a major excuse
for except for Sacramento. And that Sacramento's excuses they don't

(01:53:55):
have the experience. Well it's like, all right, well the
Warriors got the experience. They got seven wins on the road.
You know, that's why I'm saying. But I trust and
I'll tell you this right now. In a game six,
are Game five, that wouldn't be Game five. In a
Game five two two Warriors at the Kings in the

(01:54:15):
fourth quarter in the tight game, I'm definitely riding with
the Warriors because I've seen them do it the Kings.
To your point, Yeah, guys, we say they haven't done it.
If they haven't done it, what the hell us can
I say? We used to say the same about the
Kansas City Royals until they won a World Series. Then
it's like, oh, yeah, they can win one, or did
they just kind of you know, they just kind of
get one. But I just the West, the West is

(01:54:36):
just so interesting to me. I have no idea where
to go. I'm probably just gonna lean on the Warriors.
If the Warriors are to win a playoff series this year,
they will just about get what over half of their
road wins in that series. That's what we want to
take to have to get the Coming up next to
other Progressive Player of the Day, more lickings on the
March Madness Tournament and the Bottom of the West March
Martin and VJ Fox Sports Radio for the first time history.

(01:55:00):
Princeton is going to the Sweet sixteen, just the fourth
fifteen seed ever in the history of the tournament to
advance to the Round of sixteen. Princeton seventy eight, Missouri
sixty three. Oh that's right, Martin Vida coming to your
life and the Tirak dot com studios. That was the
Progressive play of the day, brought to you by Progressive Insurance.

Princeton advances to the Sweet sixteen. And a major upset
at somebody right now who's major lye up. I'm trying
to keep talking because you know, I want to say something.

(01:55:45):
I was about to say somebody who is majorly upset
right now Vernon VJ Husky song. Let me say something
because J VJ. You you painted us all wrong last time.
All those times we're playing this song during the Christmas
Eve wasn't to screw with you. It was because we
found this a very cheery and wholesome song for Christmas. Now,
what I'm doing right now now this is that I

(01:56:06):
hate this song. It makes my like, oh my god,
this is the worst Christmas song ever made. I don't
understand who greenlight this? Who said it was Chris Carry
all right, carry that man. See this must have been
the Christmas song that was playing when some of the Christmas,
you know, Biggy said Christmas missed us. When some of
the Christmas is miss VJ. It brings back to bad memories.

(01:56:29):
So no, I just I just find it so irritating.
I find her irritating. I find her voice irritating. I
just it's just and I get I get the Mariah
Carry lower guys. I do I understand why people like her,
But I don't. Christmas song that is great, This Christmas
song every made. Please, it has absolutely nothing to do

(01:56:50):
with Mark. I hate that song. The Lord, the Lord,
the Lord. Like this is the MCU the Mariah carry universe. Well,
but what I can appreciate, it's the Mariah Carey universe.
As you just eloquently stated, it only exists generally from
Black Friday after Thanksgiving to add Best New Year's Day

(01:57:11):
or whenever Nick Cannons comes up. But we're not hearing
all I want for Christmas. When Nick Cannon has impregnated
yet another woman, well, and that's not sla go look
it up. He's got like baby moms, right, so he's
been active. But you don't necessarily associate all I want
to associate all of one for Christmas with Nick Cannon.

(01:57:32):
Whenever he I'm gonna put my stamp on it that
this network will be known for. Oh yeah, do not
play that Maria or play that Mariah Christmas song. VJ
hates that because we had to listen to it on
March eighteenth. March eighteenth, and I love the fact that
Chris capet Realing was like, now what I'm doing, Now,

(01:57:52):
what I'm doing. I respect that. Now what I'm doing irritating.
It's to day after Saint Patrick's Day. He's playing Christmas music.
It's got to be for a purpose. It's not even
not even chant like we're not we're not a department store.
We're not trying to sell Christmas in July. All right,
you know, we're not trying to make that happen. We're
not saying never come from Christmas in July. I mean
