Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
That's right, Martin Wise of vj ELSI coming to you
live from the tire rack dot Com studios tire iraq
dot com. Well, if you get that with an unmaxed election,
fast free shipping, free road as protection, and over ten
thousand recommended installars tire iraq dot com, it's the way
that tire buying should be.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
And uh, you know, we saw.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Tires spinning in Philadelphia was at yesterday as Love is
in the air, and so was Jalen Hurts with his
love Hurt shirt. As the Philadelphia Eagles, we're throwing beer
cans everywhere. Dunk Harry Roseman, dunk look out as they
celebrate their Super Bowl championship.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
We were on the day before the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Has obviously been just about a week since that moment
in time and been enough time for Jalen Hurts to
Saquon Barkley on the offensive line of the Eagles, to
go on late night TV shows is but everywhere they
possibly could go late night TV, midday doing interviews all
over the place. Shout out to the barbers because the
lineups have been extremely crispy. But congratulations Philadelphia Eagles. Congratulations
(01:09):
of VJ.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Husky, who predicted a Eagles win, was.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
All right, thank you, thank you as always man, welcome
Fox Sports. I guess I don't know we're still football Saturday.
I know we got our theme music back, so I
do love that our theme music knocks like I mean, here,
I feel like I can spit bars even though I
have zero bars. But I was always man, I love
all the fans thinking listening to Then VJ. Brousee Big
one had the funny my man mar Weiss. Uh yeah,
(01:34):
I mean it's a big congratulations for the Eagles because
of what they've been through, being able to bounce back
from two years ago. Being up ten in that game
could have been a lot more other than the Nick
Bolton scoop and score the nine to h six mark
in the second quarter, the passing affaarance or defensive holding
call that kind of sets up the last field goal,
gets automatic first down, allows them to run the clock
(01:54):
down the two seconds to kick three seconds whatever it was,
kick the game winner to start ten and one last
year the Eagles did, and it's like okay, here they
come again. And then just the bottom fall out with
injuries and with Jalen Hurts was beat up, and aj
Brown went on this thing, and then Sirianni got into
some stuff, and then.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
The security guy got into some start like it just
fell apart.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
They limp into Tampa, they get shown the door, and
then you start again this year, and then this year
you think about it. You come into this season, Detroit
is on everybody's radar, and Minnesota's on everybody's radar. The
Niners are predicted to go back. You know, Dallas. People
thought Dallas would be good this show. I don't think
people saw that. Of course, they missed Dak Prescott, their
starting quarterback gets hurt and then sits the rest of
(02:35):
the year. You don't predict that's gonna happen. I think
people knew Jayden Daniels would be good. I didn't think
they would think he would be twelve and five good.
But and then the Packers, the Packers paid Jordan Love
right like you had some things out here working and
no one was talking about feeling to be able to
overcome all of that and then just win games, not
have to do it sexy, not have to do it.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
The way the media says they should do it. Score
a bunch of points.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
You've had things with aj Brown reading the book Sarahani
a bunch of stuff again this year, say Kwon Barkley's
jumping over people backwards.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
He's clearly the best player in football this season. I
thought he was. I thought he was the best play
either him and Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
And then to be able to get to the playoffs
and then get into the super Bowl, and then the
big thing to me was just taking down Andy Reid
and Pat Mahomes. The only other two people to do
it in the game has been Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Nobody else can do it. They've been beating in the
AFC Championship Game. And once they got that done, that
was also done at home. It's been at home twice.
But Joe Burrow did it once and Zach Taylor and
(03:30):
Brady and Belichick did it. So to you know, to
come full circle from two years ago. Man, it was
just cool for me to see because I've always been
a Jalen Hurt's guy.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I love say Kwon Barkley. I was wrong. I was wrong.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
When I'm coming out of college, I called him Johnna
Carter if you guys remember that name, and he is
surpassed far what I thought he would be, man. But
just a great job by then. And shout out to
another African American winning quarterback winning the Super Bowl. We
don't get a lot of those, so that was something
else that I felt good about. But yeah, congratulations to
the Eagles. Man.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
There was some stuff that happened at the rally I saw,
but you know there's also gonna be a few idiots
and in the pop but yeah, congrats to them. Congrat
Jen Hurts. What there was there was a couple of shootings.
Oh yeah, yeah, you hate to see that though, right
like it didn't This happened at the Chiefs Parade like
two years ago. If I'm not mistaken. This happens like
it's crazy, so it was last year. It's just it's
(04:19):
just crazy, man, because it's a happy time. People like relax.
Everybody chill and relax and have a good time. We
got enough problems that are natural in life. We don't
need to make problems.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
We got enough.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
But dad aside, congrats to them, man. I was really
hyped for Jalen Hurts. I really was because to me,
I know, we'll get into it later in the show,
but to me, it just shut up a lot of stuff,
a lot of questions. And uh, my dad's a Philly fan.
My father's from South Philly. So it's cool to see
my pops happy again. As he gets older in his life,
he didn't never see them winning. Within the last what
five or six years, he's been able to celebrate twice.
So shout out to my dad. VJ Senior man, congrats
(04:50):
Pops when your squad went in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
So the Eagles win the Super Bowl and they went
it in convincing fashion, smacked the Chiefs B two A
as the kids call it. It was not close. And
you know it's funny. I hear people talk about his
most watched super Bowl ever. They jiggle with the numbers
all over the place. So that's one thing here nor there.
Oh that was my point about one thing quickly about parades.
Can't imagine going to parade in which you're not being
thrown beads. Could not imagine at ending a parade in
(05:16):
with it should always be it not being thrown things.
They should yah, it should always be beads. Otherwise it's
just watching things go by, right, It's well, it's must
be on like retirement vacation. All you do is cruise
and go to different countries and stand and.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Look at stuff.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
I mean, sure, just what your yeah, but it is
what you stand in front of a building that's six
hundred years old. Okay, anyway, seventy one, take me to
the beach.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
The question to ask, I think, in my opinion is
after watching who many people, including this show, had as
one of the best teams in the NFL, the Kansas
City Chiefs throughout the season, right never they were winning
games by close margins and so on.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
But to me, that's a skill, right, you know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
There's some luck, but it's also when you look at
the the run that they had been on over the
last three seasons, which ended in the Super Bowl. You
look at that, it's like, well, it's an ability to
win close games. You win close games due to you know,
being more prepared. You win close games to win in
the turnover March. You win close games because so many
different reasons besides just they were.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Lucky, not twelve in a row. Right.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
So, but the question I have now is after you
watch the Eagles dismantle the Kansas City Chiefs in a
game in which I think only legitimately only people who
were planning are picking ay Eagles matchup like this for
Eagles fans.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Like we had Tim.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Parker on here Sunday last week rather at ten thirty,
he was like, the Eagles are going to blow.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Out the Chiefs thirty four to twenty.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
And we checked them, like, point, what's blowout means yeah,
exactly right, what's blowout?
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Blowout? Right?
Speaker 2 (06:44):
But no, But again, anybody who hadded a double digit
game is talking about, oh, it's gonna be a fourteen
point game, ten point game.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Nobody saw the jump out that we saw to.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
And so my question is to UVJ and to the
panel at home, was the AFC overrated?
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Was the AFC just overrated?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
You look at you had the Lions last year despite
losing what is a thirteen star, there's twenty two players
on injury reserve, the most in the NFL. Still won
the NFC, or won the regular season for the NFC,
right the Minnesota Vikings in their division, you know, second
based in the wild card. Eagles obviously just walked through
the playoffs, won the Super Bowl. You had a rookie
(07:23):
and in Jaydon Daniels and the Commanders right, going to
the NFC Championship game.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Now, well, I look at the AFC. I see a
lot of quarterbacks. See Josh Allen, I see John Lamar Jackson,
I see Joe Burrow.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
But I don't know how good the teams surrounding those
quarterbacks are. When I look at the NFC teams, they're
much more whole. And I look at the Eagles as
a team. You look at the Eagles, the only place
and this is not a slight to Jalen Hurts and
the slight test, but the only place I think where
the Chie's had a marked advantage over the Eagles is
in the quarterback check mark. And again that's just a
(07:57):
testament to how good Patrick Mahomes is.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
The first runt of the question, No, THEFC is not overrated.
I think when you look at the NFC this year,
there were a lot of variables. And I normally hate variables,
but I guess I got to kind of use them
in this sense. All Right, so we know how powerful
the Niners are. Correct, They've been to two Super Bowls
in the last four years, five years now that this
one has passed. But the bottom falls out when Christian
(08:21):
McCaffrey ends up on the ir list to start the year. Brandon,
I you contract, you know, d BO like there was
so much going on. They your window closed, like the
Niners windows closed to win it.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Would they be good next year? Probably?
Speaker 4 (08:33):
But are they gonna win the Super Bowl or go back?
I just don't think so because now things are starting
to fall apart. You got about a four year window
to get this thing done in the NFL. And if
you don't get it done, if you don't have the
best quarterback, and you don't have the best coach in football,
it's a tough sled. It just it's hard to do.
Ask Josh Allen asks Lamar Jackson. It's hard to do.
So these teams weren't overrated. The Ravens were still a
(08:54):
great football team. Josh Allen played his ass off of
one MVP this year. They had a much better running
game than they've had in the last I would say
maybe five or six seasons. They had a top ten
defense even look at the Chargers. They got to the playoffs.
But hardball comes in. Jimmy Burgers turns this thing around
number one scoring defense in football for most of the year,
to the Eagles overtook it. Only giving up fifteen to
sixteen points. You don't fluke that for seventeen eighteen weeks.
(09:16):
I don't think they were overrated.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
I think what.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Happened was the Eagles they had the better team and
they didn't have the injury bug that everybody else had.
Everybody else at some point. When you look at Chris Jones, right,
we think he's the probably the best defensive tackle in terry.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Lineman and football. Did you hear his name on Sunday?
But I told you.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Guys Sunday that Saturday last he's had the groin, the knee,
and the calf. It doesn't heal, guys, like he was
kind of banged up going into the end of the
year and going into the Super Bowl. So that's going
to be a factor. As far as them taking down
the Chiefs, the Chiefs are just so powerful. They may
make the AMC look like Aryl for rated because the
Eagles came in there. But I just think the Eagles
did what you do when you're healthy and you have
(09:56):
an opponent down, you kick the hell out of them.
You don't let him back up. And we know we
kept everyone. The narrative was if it's a close game,
what's gonna happen. Guys, the Eagles are gonna lose. If
the Eagles win, they gotta blow them out. I've heard
other NFL players on TV say radio people say that
was the narrative, and I think they knew this. Okay, guys,
we get a lead, we're not doing what we did
two years ago.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
We're going to continue.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Sagwa Barkley had sixty seven yards rushing, but they gave
them the ball twenty five times, so they were gonna
keep with their game plan.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
They weren't gonna stop.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
So I think the way they beat them was just
how you gotta beat a great team that's on a run,
that's going through history.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
You got an agent tight end.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
It's been long years for them, man like that was
gonna be hard for them to do, to win three
in a row. So to answer the first party question, No,
the day AFC was not overrated. I think maybe the
NFC was overrated because if you think about it, the
Lions was everybody's cream of the crop.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
This year. It was everybody's soup d jore to. The
soup of the day, right was the Lions.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
And they got handled at home in the division where
they didn't even get to the conference championship game that they.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Got to last year. Dallas falls off the map.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Green Bay wins a lot of games, Minnesota wins a
lot against but you never really felt anything from them.
They can go far, and then the Niners had the
injury bug and then once once Trent once Trent sits
down for the year and McCaffrey sits for the year
the years.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Are you saying the Eagles were just heading shoulders better
than every team in the NFL?
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Then I think so because they were able to stay healthy.
They had the number one defense in football. Defense was championships, offensives, tickets,
and and and merchandise. And they have an MVP type quarterback.
They have the league's best running back, and.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
They don't the MVP type quarterback. I think he is.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
He's been an MVP discussion the last two years. The
last two years, he's been in an MVP discussion late
into the season. What were the odds for Jalen Hurts
for the don't care about the odds seventeen?
Speaker 3 (11:41):
I mean just don't care.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
But I don't care about the conversation this year, Like
I didn't.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Say it was the conversation I'm just saying I think
he's an MVP type quarterback because the last two years,
going deep into the season, he's been in the MVP conversation.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
That means you're an MVP type quarterback.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Well there last year that he was not, and this
year also they were ten and one. Are you kidding me?
People were so and then went on a precipitous slide,
So he was not. It was Jay, It was Lamar
Jackson and Brock Purdy where the two MVPs.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Were dumpster by the end of last year, I.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Know that in this season it was Sakwon Barkley finished
third in the MVP.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
So the v I'm just okay, Well, if you want to,
if you want to, if you want to try to
make me prove my life, it's my opinion. I think
it's an MVP type quarterback. He showed it by being hell,
he showed him by being a leader. He showed him
by winning the MVP in the Super Bowl. To me,
he's an m v P type quarterback. How was that
wrong to say?
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Because he's never received an MVP vote, Okay, in the
NFL regular season, which is why I say no, that was.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
And Russell Wilson have years where he wasn't He never
got a vote and people were like, wow, I never
know that.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
But I also wouldn't tell you that Russell Wilson was
an MVP type.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
But we've heard, we've heard of the MVP votes and
the ones that aren't. Yeah, all right, well I think
he is. That's my opinion. I think Jalen Hurts is
an MVP type quarterback. And I think the leader of
the team, like a leader of the team like that
is the reason why Heads and buff shoulders better than everybody.
I mean fourteen and three number one defense, first against
the pass, third against the rush, top leading rusher in football. Like.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Yeah, they might have been at the end.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Of the day, it's hindsight twenty twenty, but they might
have been Heading Shoulders better than who competed with them
down the stretch.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
They didn't lose a game after their bye, and.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
They blew out the Chiefs, blew out the Commanders who
competed with them, who competed with the Eagles the last
ten weeks.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Of the season.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Well, I also think if it wasn't snow and the
Rams would have taken care of them in the first round,
and if it was an all who competed with them.
The Los Angeles Rams did fundamentally like they covered I mean,
but either way, I think the DFC was wildly overrated
this year. And it's one of the things that as
a football analyst, as somebody who tries to does this
for a living, it's one of the things that I am.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
I do this every year. We do it every year.
We have these rules, we established.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
What am I going to learn from last year as
I evaluate this season, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
You can't get caught up and just the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Is the quarterback as superman of all the teams in
the AFC, Because when I look at.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
Who's overrated the air Sea and let me just actually
act just who what team is overrated to I think
was overrated top to bottom.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
The conference was overrated.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
I think I think that with the Philly playing the
way they did in that Super Bowl, and if you're
telling me, I don't think that Philly was head and
shoulders better than every team in the NFC.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
I don't. I think that if you had seen Mike, if.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
I think that you've seen the Lions in that type
of Super Bowl, I think you see a similar output.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
I think you like. From the NFC side of things.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
The thing that shocked me and the Super Bowl is
watching Patrick Mahomes play his worst game of his career.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
That's what shocked me.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
I was not surprised that Philly physically could hang up
with them. I think that would have been the same
true of Detroit. I think that would have been true
of not necessarily Washington, but I think it would have
been true Los Angeles right if they had gotten to
that point physically, I think they would have hung up
with with Kansas City. Ultimately, though, I would have think
it would have been a close game in which Patrick
Mahomes would have gotten You know, we're able to find
(14:52):
a way to win, same way I thought there was
gonna be a close game with Philly.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
But with Philly going and molly.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Wopping Kansas City like that, especially up front, to me,
that shows me that well, Baltimore couldn't molly whop them
up front like that, Buffalo couldn't molly whop them up.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Front like that.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Do you know that the teams that had the most
success doing that was the Denver Broncos was upfront being
able to push Kansas City around and slow them down
like that, so when I watch that, I think, to me,
AFC wildly overrated in terms of a roster building standpoint.
They may have the better quarterbacks, but as we saw,
a quarterback is just one part of how this thing
all goes. Speaking of those quarterbacks, will continue our conversations
(15:31):
about both of these Super Bowl quarterbacks because the question
is is one guy top five and it's another guy done?
Because apparently that's what the story has been done. Du Win,
do not pass go You cannot be the goat Martin

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Let's take a second here and dive in back to
the Super Bowl. The quarterbacks on either side.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
I have two questions. Which quarterback would you care to
start with? Uh, we'll start at Pat Mahomes? All right,
Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
So the conversation around Patrick Mahomes has been, you know,
going up into the Super Bowl, was.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
You know, can he three pt? Where will that have.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Him as in terms of status in terms of all
time great status, so on and so forth, Where in
terms of not necessarily can he catch Brady? But just
in terms of where he is at, you know, cause
we'll do the can he be the goat quote unquote
conversation in about an hour and a half. But in
terms of where he stands now against active quarterbacks? Does
(17:21):
it change your opinion of him anything? What you saw
in his last four.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Quarters that he played absolutely not not one bit, not
one iota. It's a game it's one game. Does any
race what he's done since he been in the league.
He is still the greatest quarterback on Earth. He still
has the greatest coach on Earth.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Right now.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
They still have one of the top two teams on Earth,
one of the best home field advantages on Earth. Nothing
changed my mind other than now it gets really dicey
as far as wanting him to be the goat.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
With Brady Brad. He's got two losses. Okay, we know that,
seven to two. Excuse me three.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
We're going to dive into that conversation in depth in
an hour and a half, so we'll talk about that
more in depth at the top of the eight o'clock.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
It did not change my reception of him as a quarterback.
In what he's done in the league. I've heard some things.
I think that's kind of silly.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
You know. Oh he's not all of that. No, dude,
you know it happens.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Man, it's our John Elway got his ass handed to
him three times, and that doesn't take away from the
greatness of John Elway. He's still a top maybe five
or six, and my book quarterback of all time. It's
hard to do to win these games called the super
Bowl and you're going for your third in a row.
You're deep into the season every year, you train like
a maniac, and man.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
It just catches up to you.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
And you got a younger team with you know, with
more like they're playing with the house money right there.
They can't lose but lose, right, I mean, it just
is what this or No, it ain't change my opinion
about him at all. I still think he's the greatest
quarterback on the planet. He's the diet and he still
has his own tier. He doesn't come down to everybody else.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
His tier is.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Still him and then everybody else because they're going to
bounce back. They're gonna be in the AFC Championship Game again,
and they might be in the super Bowl again, so
everybody reserve one.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
It know, it didn't change anything how I currently look
at him. I think people and I get it.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
It's a day after the Super Bowl, and I think
that we all collectively as an NFL media were a
little were shocked. Not because the Chiefs lost. I think
a lot of people could have seen and predicted the
Chiefs loss, but because Patrick Mahomes played his worst game
we have seen him play since he has been a
starter in the NFL from start to finish.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
I wasn't shocked that. I'm not trying to be different.
I'm not because no, well, I'm not trying to be different.
I wasn't shocked because it happens. Lebron had a horrible finals.
Kobe didn't play a great final. So you you were
you weren't shocked to watch him play. No, it wasn't
shocking to me.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
It just wasn't.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
You know what I'm saying. If you got something to say,
say it on air. Don't hit the button and say
to him. I'm telling you how I feel. Well, I'm
shut up a topic, and the point of the matter is,
I'm sorry. If you weren't surprised to watch worst game
in NFL is in his history in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
No, I don't know what to tell you.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Well, you don't know what to tell me, because because
it happens, every great player they're gonna have, there have
been expected Mahomes to play poorly.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Say it expected, then you either you were surprised or
you expected it.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
No, it doesn't go that way. Stop it, bro Stop
it it's either expected or you were surprised. No, you're
not gonna tell me whether I expected or surprised.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
I did.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
I wasn't surprised by it. Did I expect it? No,
but it didn't surprise me.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Would you use two things? What happened?
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Because we are deep in the I just like I said,
I that great players have bad days? What were just
give it to me that said you want to already
tried to give the word.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
What that's problem? Pick another one, pick another one?
Speaker 2 (20:31):
No, no, no, no, I'm surprised, just like a lot of
other people were surprised that Patrick Mahomes would play.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
I wasn't dog. That's just what are you? Then like
almost like, well, you know bad great players have bad days.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
It happens. You know, let's go ahead. Kick it over
to Steve to say happen.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Because we are having trouble with definitions words, you're trying
to tell me how to help please that's the problem.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
Having a problem with the definition of game in hockey.
With the US at Canada tonight, they've played about nine
minutes of this game and nine seconds have come off
the clock because of three fights to start this one.
This is Hockey's Four Nations faceoff tournament in Montreal tonight.
Earlier Today, Finland defeated Sweden in overtime four to three. Monday,
(21:12):
things will move to Boston. Canada will play Finland during
the day Monday, and then Monday night, the US will
be hosting Sweden. Each team plays three tournament games, round
robin format. Thursday night is the championship game. The NHL
is off for almost two weeks until next Saturday. No
NHL All Star Game this year. This instead, of course,
(21:32):
the NBA All Star Game is this weekend in San Francisco.
It's Tomorrow Night. It's now a four team mini tournament.
Each team will have eight players, and the winning team
in Friday's Rising Stars will be one of those competing
on Sunday. Team Chris Mullen in the Bay Area, it's
All Star Saturday Night, which means we're starting with the
Skills Challenge. After this, the three point Contest, and then
(21:53):
the Slam Dunk Contest. The college basketball Number one Auburn

five Bama from three point range five for twenty six,
including Mark Sears two for eleven. Number three Florida about
to get going at home against South Carolina. Duke tied
for third in the polls this week. Beat Stanford oneh

six to seventy. Fifth ranked Tennessee came back to defeat
Vanderbilt eighty one seventy six. Vallts trailed by sixteen just
before halftime. Tennessee was just seven and five in conference.
Six thranked Houston a winner at number thirteen Arizona sixty
two to fifty eight. Houston is thirteen and one in
the Big Twelve Conference with a two game lead now.
(22:34):
The Badgers of Wisconsin scored fifty eight points in the
second half wound up winning at number seven per Due

in the top ten for Texas, A and M and
Iowa State as well. A reminder, Sunday's Daytona five hundred

weather forecast. The race is due to begin at two

pm Eastern Time on Fox TV, but rain is due
at dayton On it right around then, and it'll be
Wendy there. Chase Briscoe will start from the pole position.
Current forecast it's not going to be raining all night,
but there's no way they're going to go start to
finish without a rain delay. The way things are looking now,
this event starts NASCAR's regular season for the Cup Series.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Back to you, thanks Steve, Martin and J.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Coming to you live from the Tire IRAQ dot com studios.
If you want to join the conversation, feel free to
hit us up on Twitter. I'm at Martin White's VJ
at Big Vanilla Funny. We'll get to your tweets throughout
the show. So we had a Hall of Fame quarterback,
a future first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback with something
incredibly in common with Motown. Aaron Rodgers apparently ain't too
(23:42):
proud to be, because it was reported by The New
York Post that Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey,
where the New York Jets play, and said, you know what, guys,
I please please do not let me go. Please, I
want to stay here. Give me one more year, maybe two.
Aaron Glenn said, you know what, buddy, Aaron Glenn, and
(24:04):
the new GM of the team said, you know what, hey,
you're not gonna do Pat McAfee, You're gonna be a
training camp.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
You're gonna do this, You're gonna do that. You're gonna
do this, You're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
That, And apparently at some point throughout that conversation which
decided that they were not going to continue their business relationship.
Aaron Glenn coming as a new head coach VJ. What
do you think of the decision for the New York
Jets to go ahead and move on from Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
I think it's a smart dale man. I think they
have to break this whole thing down. It's what I've
been saying that Ian, you know, you and I've talked
about this, man. I think they honestly they everyone's on.
Everyone's up right. I'm calling around, Hey, what do you
want for? Garrett Wilson?
Speaker 3 (24:42):
What do you want for?
Speaker 4 (24:43):
I mean, reset it, because you got to start with
a quarterback, right, and I know people will Garrett Wilson, Hey, man,
if somebody want them, and they's gonna give you a
first form and you can build some picks off of
this and build your franchise back up. Everybody to me
in the Jets unif saws all of them, everybody's up
and air.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
You can see he coming.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
I think there's stories right that they're gonna move on
from Devonte, right, Is that true? He and I thought
I thought I saw something come across the bottom of
the screen.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
ESPN. I was watching the basketball game one night. If
Aaron's gone, I think Devanta the right. So I mean,
just reset this thing, man and listen. Coach Glinn he
needs he needs a fresh palette.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
Right when you're painting or you're doing something, you're taking
guitar lessons. Right you're you're starting fresh. You need a
new guitar. You don't need nothing used and all beat
up in the strings. You gotta replace. No, it's like golf.
People say, when you start playing golf, get a U set.
Why I want the grips to be you know, nice.
I'll get a starter set for two hundred bucks out
of costco I can't buy a title list and tailor made,
but I'm gonna get a new set. I think Coach
(25:40):
Glenn needs a new palette to paint with. He needs
a new set. And I just thought it was a
smart MOE. And I think I think Aaron. I think
Aaron might want to I think Aaron might want to move.
It's the two years, guys. Just wasn't it just wasn't good.
He threw for four thousand yards this year, but they
didn't win a lot.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
I mean he too.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
He's coming off what he's forty one at the start
of the year. Last year, I had an achilles and
I get he got to rehab the entire forty got
to rehab the entirety of last year. But he'll get
to rehab. It's not something that is, you know, it's
like getting to go to the DMV. It's the more
something you have to do, and you need to be
able to stay active and relevant. And he did suffer
(26:19):
a hamstring injury and I want to say it was
an MCL in the same leg last year.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
That's gonna be hard for anybody to deal with.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
That being said, Shannon Sharp said this a million times
when I used to work with him. He still does it.
I'm sure now today I catch less of this stuff,
but he used to have a great line, and I'm
gonna completely steal.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
It from him.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
It's like, your tolerance is a function of your production,
and the higher your production is, the more they will tolerate.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
If Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Came out here and was a undisputed, no pun intended,
top five quarterback in the NFL, justs what they'd be
like Hey, you know what, could you just move the
McAfee to nine forty instead of ten forty? You know,
could you think, if you want to go, do whatever
you want, but could you just look, we're gonna do
training camp from here.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Aaron Glenn says, I don't want none of that. BS.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
I am establishing a new regime. It is a new
jet order across Flooring Park. And I think that ultimately,
like it is not because of Aaron Rodgers' play that
he is no longer a New York Jet. It is
because of Aaron Rodgers' personality that he is no longer
a New York Jet. His play is definitely good enough
to withstand or to stay here, but his personality as such,
(27:32):
you've got to get the hell on you ain't your mama?
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Yeah? I would.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
I mean his play, like I said, the numbers are there,
but there are times he's off. There were times he's
off one throws and stuff. I just think that if
you had a younger quarterback. I don't know if a
rookie could come in and do this, but I mean,
what could Kayla Williams do what Aaron Rodgers did for
the Jets this year?
Speaker 6 (27:55):
Right?
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Could it be similar yardage or numbers or what have you.
I know Kayla was close like four thousand, thirty seven
or thirty hundred something like that. His play to me,
just it just kind of fit where he is right now.
And I know his name is being going around with
some other teams. But I'll just just hang my hat on.
If I'm Aaron Glenn, this is my opportunity. And I'm
a black head coach in this league, It's not a
lot of opportunities.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
To come around.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
I got one. I need a fresh start. Woody, Woody
Johnson's gotten there right now. I need a fresh start, Woody, Sir,
Can I just I'll take the job, But can I
get a fresh start?
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Just and let me? Hey, I played here.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
I was the quarterback that got beat by mark Ingram
with the Dan Marino fake spike with Boomer size that
I look, I'm in here, man. Can I get a
fresh start? And I just think that was the movie.
I think wherever Aaron Rodgers go, I think we'll see
the same play right that we saw this year, not
unless he like what goes to it gets Jamar chasing
and Justin Jefferson on his team.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
But that's not gonna happen. I think his play was
it was cool.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
I think they could have still kind of let him
go and think let's start over, maybe get.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
His play wasn't so bad. No, no, no, so bad.
It wasn't so bad.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
It was good enough where you know they still have
him under contract. There's good enough to where you're not
necessarily looking to replace him, you know, just off like.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Like the year before Aaron Rodgers got there, it.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Was like, we are gonna literally be quarterbacked by anybody
but Zack Wilson. We would rather have Brick Brick Johnson,
the son's owner, play the owner's son play quarterback over
Zach Wilson.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
It's sure enough.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Four snaps later, he hands up right there after Aaron
Rodgers snaps his achilles. But I don't think it's crazy
to me to see, And we talked about it a
little bit in Week seventeen or eight at Week eighteen.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
I think it is more likely than not that we have.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Seen Aaron Rodgers play his last NFL game. Oh, I
think it's more likely than that we've seen Aaron Rodgers
play his last NFL game, because here's the rough. Okay,
you got all the different teams looking for starters, and
we'll dive into that in a little bit, but tennessee
something like that, like all these teams looking for starters,
none of them are legitimate contenders right next year. I
(30:00):
think maybe San Francisco's on his list. That's if they
don't want to move with perty. None of these guys
are legitimate contenders right here, right now if you're Aaron Rodgers,
So why would you?
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Again?
Speaker 2 (30:10):
The report is he begged to stay in the Jets,
right He begged to stay with the Jets, because if
you look at the Raiders situation or the Titan situation
or another team that's in this and he needs a
quarterback desperately, there is no good situation better than what
you've got.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Right now with you, buddy, buddy Devonte Adams.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Right, So I don't expect Aaron Rodgers to go into
an Indianapolis, for example, and compete with Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Don't see that happening.
Speaker 8 (30:34):
Well, it's also about how he finished, like how he
closed the year. He threw for two seventy four and
three touchdowns actually might have been four, I think four touchdowns,
and he threw his five hundred career touchdown to Devonte Adams.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Do you guys mind if I just throw a few
teams out there in a few scenarios. Okay, so we've
heard this Pittsburgh thing, correct, I think that's real. What
if Arizona thinks to do a move this year with
moving on from Kyle because of the money, right and
gonna get a veteran stuff? Just just spitballing at the
Tennessee has a high pick Jacksonville if Trevor gets moved, right,
(31:12):
if there's something there, I know Pittsburgh name has been
in that also, could could that be a landing spot
for I just I think he'll play if he wants
to play. But I think his ego if it's not
like a contending or big market or a hey look
at me, we got Aaron Rodgers all attention on me
because we know he's a narcissist, right, So if.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
It's not that, then yes, he's done.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
But if he can go somewhere and be the show
and be the media and be beat him like, be
all attention, Hey look at me, Look what I got?
And I think there's there's always an owner that feels
like I can do something with this guy. It's all
about money, right. If you signed Aaron Rodgers're gonna sell
a lot of jerseys, You're gonna sell a lot of tickets,
regardless of what team it is. I don't know if
that's true anymore. I think two years ago that definitely
(31:55):
was true.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
But now after after a achilles snap season one, after
five snaps, and then the the all of it, the Ayahuasca,
the dolphins mating, sound sex as he's preparing his Achilles tendon,
the buddy buddy with Davonte, just all of it, of
do we see them the last what is it thirty
(32:15):
four games that Aaron Rodgers has been in New York Jet,
Like I think if you still walking off from Green
Bay where he's you know, this time before he was
a Jet he went two of the last three MVPs
and was had broken his thumb that year prior. I
don't know if it's true that he's.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Like gonna be in high demand New Orleans Saints Goodness gracious,
I mean, because right, just I think Derek Carr's done right,
and if you have a chance to get him in
a city like New Orleans five and twelve, looking to
the new head coach, right, looking for a spark. Yeah,
I got you got Spence. We like him, but Aaron's
(32:55):
the the vet, Aarons the you know, he's done it.
There's just always a coach, a GM and a owner
guys that look so some of these older guys and go.
We just saw two years ago with Aaron Rodgers, right,
people were really like, dude, are you crazy? But they said, no,
we're getting this guy. We're doing We're doing Brett Farv again.
Speaker 8 (33:11):
Well, if you really, if you really want to do
a time as a flat circle thing, then then he'll
end up on the Vikings because he's following right far right.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
The JJ has a setback. Darnold signed somewhere else. JJ
has a setback.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Wow, Ian, you know what Ian, if that cash is in, man,
I'll tell I'll take.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
You to Disney spooky. Oh, I'll take you up on that.
You and your lady.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
I will take you and your lady for your charge.
If that cash is in, I will take you and
your lady to Disney lay fund. Right.
Speaker 8 (33:36):
But you know what, you know, I like the rams
if they move on from these staff, I've heard that.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
I've heard an interesting one with McVeigh Rodgers. Okay, So
all of these teams, we just lifted all of them.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Which one of them would you deem to be a
quarterback away from major contention?
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Because I think.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
That's Stafford played well this year, like to be a
quarterback away from contention?
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Still say Rams.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
They had a lot of injuries early and when they
started getting guys back, it started turning. It started turning
for them right in front of us, right before eyes.
They had a lot of guys out to start the year.
And as the season went on, they started getting guys back.
That defense with verse who wins Defensive Rookie of the Year,
They they got some They got some dogs. They got
some dogs on that side of about some young some
young boys Kyle Williams at the running back position. No,
(34:22):
I think, if you know, I'm not saying Aaron Rodgers
is the guy, but a quarterback away I think like
elevated over Stafford.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
I think the question would have to ask, is he
better than Stafford right now? But what answered that question?
Speaker 3 (34:35):
To me?
Speaker 8 (34:35):
It's the Vikings because they just made it. They just
had the season they had with Darnal or Darneld. Wow,
Aaron Rodgers in there, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
I know, I mean it sold Aaron Rodgers that played
like he played for the Jests this year. Just that
identical guy, not old Aaron Rodgers, not discout double check
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
Now, I think he's better than Sam Darn Okay, I'm
I'm just asking.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
He's not talking State Farm spokesman. Aaron Rodgers were talking
potential vice president. Not many Aaron Rodgers too. Very different,
two different guys.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
But the question with the Rams, I like that, but man,
I'd have to say, no, I don't think he's better
than Stafford now, so that that wouldn't elevate them. So,
you know, I don't think he's the guy to go there,
but I do think they are a quarterback away from
the end.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Continue.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Sometimes in sports, you know the phrase the calls coming
from inside the house. It really truly rings true. The
call is coming from inside one San Francisco's athletes. It's
his phone ringing as he comments on what's going on
in his league. That plus vj's Power five NBA Teams
All Star Edition coming up next Martin Wis Vja Husky
(35:36):
Fox Sports Football Saturday. Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio
Radio as we watched LiAngelo ball Grace the All Star
Stage in San Francisco. It's time for Vejay's Top five
on Power five NBA All Star Edition.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yes, sir, so let's go through the last few weeks.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
I had some teams up into the Power five that
I really like, but they've.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Taken a fall. Number one Houston is not going to
be in it this week. Guys.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Sorry, little Chewy raconaut in Houston. We love you home
yard know this, but defense is starting to kind of
wear down. That road trip was really heavy on them,
and then they gave up a home loss to the
Golden State Wards who were twenty eight twenty seven, so
I moved them out. So in replace for them, give
me the champions from two years ago to different Nuggets.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
They got an a gay win streak right now.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
They kind of remind me of a team that just
needs a little time to get going. They know what
this ride is like. They know it is a marathon
and not a sprint. You still have, in my opion
a top three player in the league. I'm not sure
what's up with Jamal Murray. I'm not sure if the
lower league extremity injuries have really affected his explosiveness, but
he does seem to be kind of fine in his
lays again. But as long as you got the joker Man,
(36:44):
you got a chance, just like in Batman.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
All right, number four, give me the mephis Grizzlies.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
I love this team, and this is a forgotten team
because of all the stuff y'all went through over the
last eighteen months. We forgot how good this team was.
And then think about the people they've moved on from,
they've moved off from, and what we thought were like
the heart and soul of his team. Dylan Brooks is
doing just fine in Houston, but they moved on from him.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
You draft the guy like Edie a two time back
to back.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
The only person ever do that National Player of the
Year in college basketball, the only person ever do that
and history is Bill Walton. And this guy is a
defensive star wars. He protects the rim. My only concern
about this team is, yeah, misses too many games with
what I call nagging injuries.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Nagging injuries is water stretching.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Stop eating sugar, Stop eating fried food, Stop staying up late,
stop drinking a lot of liquor.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
When you're young.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
I know you think you're young and you're invincible, Jah,
but I've always supported you and defended you.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Homeboy.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Don't make me look stupid. Y'all know I don't like
when athletes make me look stupid. I got them at
number four. Number three, they're coasting, the defending champions, the
Boston Celtics. They're coasting. They got two of the best
players in basketball. They got one of the best young
coaches in basketball. Once again, a team that knows what
this journey is like. There are in no rush to
get there because they know when it comes down to it.
I think they're coming out of the East if they
(37:55):
if it's not gonna be one of the other two teams,
are gonna mention it'll be them. But in any playoff serious,
I'll take this team in May because once again, they've
done it before, right Like, I'm gonna trust the guy
that's getting married for the second or third time over
a guy that did the first time first time. Hey, man,
you don't know what's coming. At least the second time,
you should know your mistakes. And by the third wife
our husband, you should definitely know the stakes. You should
have a good marriage. Since then, Number two, give me
(38:16):
the OKC thunder Listen man, Sga, I'm trying to find
a reason. Now this is gonna sound funny. I'm trying
to find a reason not to like him as much
as everybody else. But I can't because I watch his
game and I guess it looks so easy to him, and.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
It's like, is the league just soft now? Or is
there no defense?
Speaker 4 (38:34):
And then you watch about three or four straight Oklahoma
City Thunder games, You're like, you know what, it's.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
Kids, legit, Like this kid is a bucket. I know.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
People hate they say foul hunts, guys. NBA player has
been foul hunting since it foul hunting was a thing.
It's nothing new, guys. People hate it. When James Harden
did it. People hate it when they used to say
Shacky's to doing he was younger, and Orlando leaning in
the guys, lunging in the guys and stuff. Listen, if
you get the call, you get the call. If the
rest are going to call it, the rest gonna call it.
They did get Check hung him back, Sorry check Kaway
(39:03):
and Edwards, boy, that's you the other night. Goodness, gracious boy, listen, man,
get up off your feet or just get out of
the way, but you get him back. They got some
other really good pieces of their young team. I just
don't know yet. You guys don't know how I am
about young teams. I don't know if they can win
it all, but I do think they can be a
factor down the stretch. And then my number one team's
remember the number one team the last three weeks in
a row. I'm gonna stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Donovan Mitchell,
(39:27):
I'm trying to give him a comparable Now I'm a
give one. Don't don't don't blast me, guys, but just
just film me, let me cook. He reminds me of
Dwayne Wade before Shaq had gotten there. And now, remember
the way coming to the league, it was pretty good,
but that second year he just exploded. I know, Donavin
Mitchell's been in the league for a while, but you
guys always know what to say about pro athletes. Everybody
can't come in the league and explode right away and
(39:49):
have it consistent. Some guys have these flashes and they
go down a little bit. We talk about the sophomore
slump in college NFL football with quarterbacks. I just think
he's hit that stride now where he can get to
anywhere on the floor.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
He's a leader.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
He's take care of himself like he's doing it the
right way and the way it should be done. They
play defense, they rebound the ball down Allen like this.
This team's legit. I love what they're doing and they're
gonna they're gonna win the East. That's my top five.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Coming up next, we'll dive in Mahomes still worthy of

It's the way that tire buying should be.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Just watch Cam Johnson finish his first round of the
three point contest saw the Rising Stars Challenge see Victor
Winbinyama ejected, Chris Paul ejected.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Team Spurs was disqualified. Are you what are you? What
are you laughing about?
Speaker 8 (40:58):
What's because Mary was showing me the video, I don't
understand what I'm looking at.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
They try to hack the system. Yes, they tried to
hack the system. So you have to shoot right.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
It requires three shots or whatever you have to like,
you get three minimum shots and if you miss them,
then you keep going right. So instead of trying to
make the shots, what the Spurs players did. They just
threw the balls as fast as they could to then
advance to the next spot, as opposed to actually trying
to attempt the shot.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
Now, I think smarter not harder, or work smarter not harder.
Here's my beef, victim woman, y'am.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
The last year was talking about Anthony Edwards didn't take
all this stuff seriously and used it as a level
of like, oh, look the Americans, they're not serious about basketball,
and now all of a sudden we got this.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
So there you go.
Speaker 5 (41:43):
It's called assimilating America, he said, even blending in that's
pretty good.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
That was good, all right.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
So going back to the Super Bowl to fallout from
that conversation, uh, I seem to think that everybody watched
that Super Bowl LIX and just completely used it to
completely ignore the last like six years of football that
we've been watching. Now they say, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady,
(42:16):
I think right now.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
I don't know. Different people feel different ways.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
If you have a top three list and Tom Brady
is not in the top three of that list, I.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
Will say your list is incorrect.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Most people, I think have Tom Brady as number one
on that list. The reason why Patrick Mahomes felt like
he was knocking on that door he had the opportunity
to do something that Tom Brady had never done, which
is a three peat. Now we are now at twenty
nine years old, saying we do not think that Patrick
Mahomes will get a three peat seeing as it's never
(42:48):
been done before an NFL history. This was likely his
best shot to do it, So he's not going to
ever get that accolade on Brady. So with that, at
twenty nine years old, seven year years into his starting career,
can Patrick Mahomes ever catch Brady?
Speaker 3 (43:06):
Catch him? Hum, there's a path.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
Brady's seven and three, okay, so he's been to ten,
Pats three and two, he's been to five, all right,
so he's he doesn't have to get to ten, but
I do. I would like to see six at least
to make it other conversation just with me, winning just
has to still matter at the end of the day.
Who's holding the trophy at the end of the year matters.
It just still has to. And I know we've taken
(43:32):
every twisting turn we can in sports talk, TV and
radio to make it not that. But he's got a
shot at catching them. But some things got to change.
And remember Brady went on a little break from getting
to a super Bowl himself and winning one. Right, he'd
won the quick three out of four, and then it
got dropped for him in and then they grabbed a
couple more did it got draw for a really long
time before he got to Tampa, won the last one
(43:55):
and for the Patriots, and then gets to Tampa to
get the seventh one. So even if he goes on
a little to drop right here, he's not quite thirty
just yet, so he's got some time before he gets
to the thirty year of Mark.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
Could he catch him? Yes? Do I think he will
catch him?
Speaker 4 (44:11):
No, because I still expect I think Alan, Lamar, Herbert
and Burrow to still matter in the AFC moving forward.
They're all younger, They're gonna fix I'm pretty sure they'll
fix their teams. Kansas City's gonna lose some people this year,
Like his best pass catcher could be gone in Travis Kelse,
(44:31):
he could retire. You got to replace that next year.
I know they have Xavier and Worthy who went for
overall buck fifty in the Super Bowl two touchdown catches.
Speaker 3 (44:37):
Don't forget where she rice? Yeah yeah ra sheee wise.
Can he catch him? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (44:42):
He could, Yeah he could. He's young enough he still
could catch him. And then also too, how long is
Andy Reid gonna be around? I think that's a factor too.
Do I think he can?
Speaker 3 (44:49):
Yes? Do I predict and think he will?
Speaker 2 (44:51):
No, I'd say I think he definitely has a possibility to.
If I had to set the line, I would say, yes,
Patrick Mahomes catches Brady at like a slight a slight
underdog maybe plus two hundred, and I would be hammering
the plus two hundred, right, I think. Just to be clear,
I do think he has a great shot to happen.
(45:12):
I think that if you were setting the line, setting
the odds, know would have.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
To be a slight favorite.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
So so I don't think that's a crazy You don't
think that's the right opinion because who else does stuff
like that?
Speaker 3 (45:22):
Like you know what I'm saying, it's to kind of predict.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
It is almost going out on the limbs saying it's
impossible to predict because we haven't seen that level of
success prior to and really we haven't seen the level
of success that Mahomes has had in this stretch prior
to seeing Mahomes do it. The thing that I have
is people who are going out and having the like,
I not get it. You want to have a strong opinion,
especially the day after the biggest football game of the year.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
But the idea that.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
Patrick Mahomes is somehow knocked down a peg from where
he's at because of this Super Bowl appearance and terrible
Super Bowl appearance, which is by far the worst game
we've seen him play. But the idea that his two
worst games came in the Super Bowl and the third
was the AFC Championship game, to me is a testament
(46:12):
of the dominance we have seen from this guy. Like
you name me your favorite quarterback, Tom Brady included, and
I'll name you a worst playoff loss that they had
that Patrick Mahomes hasn't even sniffed.
Speaker 8 (46:25):
But let me post it to you like this, Martin,
because if because we're measuring Brady again, I mean we're
measuring Mahomes against Brady right.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
Part of the reason why is because he's so far
past everybody else. It's not a fair competition to the
Lamars and Josh Allenson's war.
Speaker 8 (46:41):
I mean things like Brady never got blown out in
a Super Bowl. It's like, how much is that gonna
gonna matter to you when you're weighing these guys at
the end of their career, who's the goat?
Speaker 3 (46:50):
Well, Holmes just got absolutely shmacked.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
To be clear, Mahomes still has more winning to do
along the way to be considered.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
I will say this.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
If he continues on the path that he is on,
Let's say he slows down and only he's three and
two in super Bowls. Let's say he goes two and
two over the remainder of his career, so he'd be
five and four in Super Bowls. But he remains at
the pace of I am in the AFC Championship Game
every single year, Like I'm not knocking guys because they
(47:21):
didn't lose in Round one, or they didn't lose in
the Conference champions or they didn't lose in the divisional round.
Like that stress you're talking about with Tom Brady is
because he didn't get to the super Bowl. Mahomes has
done that once as a starter, where he did not
get to the super Bowl. That's I mean, you win
the conference with five or six times, you're on track.
(47:42):
You win the conference six, ten or twelve times, you're
on track.
Speaker 4 (47:46):
Also, Ian I would also put out there too, He's
been out played three times in Super Bowls.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
He's all played about Tom Brady. He is all played
by Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 4 (47:56):
Two years ago, He's all played by Jalen Hurts again.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
I think that's a god.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Jalen Hurts had a strip sack fumble in a game
that was a one score possession in which they lost
the game by that.
Speaker 3 (48:08):
Like, I get that Jalen Hurts played really.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Well in that first foot Bowl lost for Philly, But
I think it's revisionist to say that he played better
than Mahomes did.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
He played well, but to play like that, that's tough
to me.
Speaker 4 (48:20):
Okay, I think he played. I think I thought I
thought they all played. I've been saying it since that game.
I thought he out played him. I know he had
the fund about me. Hell, he threw an interception last Sunday.
He turned the ball over also too, but he still
out played him though. If you put the rest of
the tape on, you take the one play out and
line up the rest of the plays evenly, I think
Jalen hurts. I go back and watch the game over,
you know, whenever, if you go back and take take
the strip fung fumble out by Nick Bolton, the return,
(48:42):
and just put the rest of the plays up against
each other, I thought he all played him. I thought
he played him also Sunday, and then Brady out played
him also too, So I think that would be I
don't know if I would use that in my argument,
and being that you brought that up, but I can
see people throwing at agree because that's what we do, right,
we have to nit pick everything down, And to me,
it's just gonna come down to winning.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
That's I'm gonna look at it and go, okay.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
Like, if he gets the four, let's say it gets
the four, you can't be better than the guy that
won seven.
Speaker 8 (49:09):
I'm sorry, it's it's the Jordan argument. Well that's what
I said. That's the reason I brought it up is
because it's like, if he losing this and getting absolutely
destroyed in it, maybe it doesn't knock him down relative
to everybody else. It doesn't take away anything he's done
in his career. But my point is, if you're measuring
him up against Brady, we're talking about the best football
(49:29):
player who's ever lived, the best quarterback who's ever lived.
Speaker 3 (49:32):
It needs to be little things at the margin like this,
you know.
Speaker 8 (49:34):
And if one of them got blown out in a
Super Bowl and the other one never did, that has
to mean something, is all I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (49:39):
And then you stopped on saying at four, oh right,
like there, I mean, there's winning, like I said, just
winning to me, But.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
It's also the years that he didn't get there. Yeah, true,
those don't matter.
Speaker 4 (49:51):
And you know what the thing was, I saw this
this interview with Brady, the Brady interview with Colin, and
he talks about that, right, he talks about, no one
cares about THEA and he started rolling them off. He goes,
no one cares about the NFC championship game I lost
against the Ravens and against the Colts and against the
Still like he goes, no one cares about that stuff.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
He goes, you know what people care about?
Speaker 8 (50:11):
It?
Speaker 4 (50:11):
What I hear when I still go to New York,
Is that Eli Manning beat me twice? Or when I
go to Philly, is that Philly beat me? At the
end of the day, we don't care about conference finals stuff.
We don't care about alcs's, we don't care about wildcard rounds.
At the end of the day, when we start the line,
guys up, we're gonna look at the championships. The numbers
are there too, so we'll look at the numbers. But
(50:32):
how often did you win at the end of the year.
How many times did you hold the trophy to show
that your team and you were better than everybody else
that year? And when you've done it seven times over
the length of twenty plus years, and you've had gaps,
but you still kept coming back. I mean, I think
that that that's gotta hold some kind of water, you
know what I'm saying. And Mahos he's had a great
(50:53):
run right now, the last five years.
Speaker 3 (50:54):
It's been great.
Speaker 4 (50:55):
We'll see how it goes moving forward, because you know
what I say, you got a four or five window.
Ye right, maybe that's been their window. We will see
him moving forward. But this team is going to change
drastically moving forward, and we've seen that with some of
these other quarterback we can look at Troy Aikman. We
could throw his name in. He's got three Super Bowl rings,
He's undefeated in Super Bowls. Yes, the line, Emmi Smith,
all these other guys. But I just know when he
(51:17):
was the quarterback and he was playing in that game,
he didn't lose. I'm not saying Troy Aikman's up there,
but there's the reason why he's got to go jacking
in Hall of Fame's three and old Super Bowls. That's
the first thing people are gonna say about him. They're
not gonna mention conference championship wins.
Speaker 3 (51:29):
They're not gonna mention that. They don't care.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
About Andy Reid went the five straight. Andy Reid went
the five straight conference championship game and got the one
Super Bowl over it. We don't hold that with Andy, like, well,
he got the five NFC straight Cup. We don't care
about that in.
Speaker 3 (51:44):
The Super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (51:45):
In the grand scheme of things, maybe not, but when
you're literally holding guys up against each other who's better,
you have to.
Speaker 2 (51:51):
And I think in the grands game of things we
do like I think, like would anybody say the Bills
team who lost four Super Bowls straight, was not one
of the best teams in the a FC during that
six year stretch.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Like I mistake to the storyline as they lost four straight.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Super bowl I understand, but but think about the question,
are they not one of the best AFC teams in
that decade?
Speaker 3 (52:12):
Absolutely? See that's my point.
Speaker 8 (52:14):
When talking looks upon you less favorably, but it doesn't
mean that you weren't one of the best teams.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (52:19):
But we don't talk about we don't have a segment of, oh,
let's rank the let's rank the the ten best AFC
teams in this in this decade. We don't do that.
Do we want to in order we want to defend something,
And that's the only time we do it is when
we want to defend something, then we'll go, well, they
got this far, they got this. But at the end
of the day, it's just always big guys. Who's winning,
(52:40):
who's winning at all? Who's winning? When we start putting
Mount Rushmore's and and and and and and and got
lists and stuff. In every sport, we don't talk about
conference and division rounds.
Speaker 3 (52:50):
We talk about Super Bowls in World Series and.
Speaker 8 (52:53):
But is it not losing a Super Bowl to not
make the playoffs. Is that not losing a super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (52:57):
That's how I don't say say that again, No, you do.
This is the fundamental super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
This is the intellectual split that happens with every single person,
in my opinion who makes this argument right here, right now.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
Go for it.
Speaker 8 (53:10):
No, yeah, I just in not making the playoffs, you've
lost the super Bowl. The ultimate goal of every single
NFL season is to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
So you either win it or you don't.
Speaker 8 (53:20):
And if you don't even make the playoffs, it doesn't
even matter if you make it to the big Game
or not. If you don't, it's the same end result
if you make it to the super Bowl and lose
versus if you don't even make the play.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
The point Kansas City is the last, the thirty first
team to lose the Super Bowl this year because Cleveland lost.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
It, New York lost it. New York lost it.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
All these other teams didn't even qualify, so they weren't
eligible to win it.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
But I don't say it that way. Ian, Yeah, I know.
I have to get what your second play in the
super Bowl to lose it. If you don't make the playoffs,
you don't make the playoffs. That's what that's title.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
Yeah, it's it's it's when you when you when you
talk about a team next year, Right, you don't go
to Dolphins. We're not gonna sit in here in August
and go, well, they lost the super Bowl last year.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
VJ.
Speaker 4 (54:04):
No, you're gonna go they didn't make the playoffs VJ.
Because that's where it stops. Only two teams can lose
the Super Bowl, and it's the two teams that play
in it.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
But at that point is if you had all time
like when you had an all time great and Dan
Marino and they're chalking up all how everybody finishes at
the end of the year when you're compared already even
at the end of the year, at the end of
careers where it's all said and done, you're looking at
Marino and you're saying, well, Okay, how many rings did
he win?
Speaker 3 (54:29):
How many of this did he win? How many that
did he win? For your team?
Speaker 2 (54:33):
To the point where now I don't have the numbers
off the top of my head, you probably have a
better I mean, I know you have a better concept
of how many times Marino like won the division round
or won the first round or won the conference championship.
Speaker 3 (54:44):
And I know he only got the one super Bowl,
right yep.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
So, but like there are guys who have more Super
Bowls who are less accomplished than Dan Marino, like Nick Foles.
Speaker 4 (54:55):
There you go, okay, okay, so and we can go
Nick Foles, we can go Trent Delford, we can go
Brad Johnson. There's always an anomaly, guys, there's always you're
gonna get one of those. But no one in their
right mind is gonna sit on radio or television to
say any of those three or four guys we just
name is better than Dan Marino, because the tape doesn't
say so. In the overall numbers over career didn't say so.
But you know, the one thing they do have that
he doesn't, They have a Super Bowl ring. It doesn't
(55:16):
make them better than him. But the number one thing
with Dan Marino, and I say this all the time,
you think that man cares about says he championship appears, No,
he doesn't have the ring. And that's why he slides
down people's list. Because we could put the tape on
and though the one, in my opinion, the greatest peers
passer other than probably him, Johnny United and John Elwick
that ever lay my eyes on. You just watch them throw,
(55:37):
It goes up, it comes out, It's perfect every damn time.
It's never an air ball. But he doesn't have the ring.
Those are the two guys I just name. Both have rings,
so they're gonna be elevated over him when that discussion
starts yes weekend. A man, he was great any sport
King Griffy Jr. Best five to two guy I ever
saw in my life. Guess what he doesn't have though,
he doesn't have a world serious championship, and he'll tell
(56:00):
you that you don't care about the divisional round. It's
corn coming from first on the single for the against
the Yankees where he gets my ball as team And yes, it's.
Speaker 3 (56:07):
A cool moment, But do you think that's what he
wakes up and thinks about.
Speaker 4 (56:11):
He wakes up and thinks if I just I just
had that one, if I just had that ring. I
just think winning still matters that way.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
No, I just know the going forward, I am not
and I'm not gonna be doing the Oh well, this
guy got knocked out in the first round, so some
all matters less than losing in the Super Bowl. I
think we've gotten turned around on this conversation in general,
and like to the like to Vj's point, I mean,
it goes like, I know they're throwing you me wrong.
(56:39):
Tom Brady's career holds an incredible amount of water, right
or you know, Peyton manning tom Bradyt'll stick with him
an incredible amount of water.
Speaker 3 (56:48):
But also you can't ignore the ten year drought.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
Right, So if mahomes and I'm not saying it's gonna happen,
but if in fact he does have a drought of
some proportion, let's keep this all in perspective, because there's
been zero drought throughout the start of his career up
to this moment, and up to this moment he is
at he is having the best start to an NFL
(57:12):
career that has ever existed, maybe honestly the best start
to a professional athletes career.
Speaker 4 (57:18):
He's had a drought, Brady had a draw. But we
have to also, I think, be responsible to name why
the drought was. There was a guy named big Ben
Hall of Famer, a guy named Peyton man and Hall
of Famer, and a guy named Drew Brees, hall of Famer. Like, yeah,
you went on the drought, but there were some other
guys that were in. It wasn't going to It wasn't
going to Bums. Flacko got won, but it wasn't going
to bump It was other Hall of Fame, top ten
all time guys that was getting some rings too.
Speaker 3 (57:38):
That's why I said I'm waiting on Mahomes because I
still I'm still holding faith on right.
Speaker 4 (57:42):
What have we been talked about Alan and Burrow and
Lamar and we've been told these guys are besides, these
guys are gonna say franchises that take their teams the
Super Bowls. That's what That's what's been said about each
one of those. So I gotta let this play up.
There might be a drought coming. But when Brady went
to their drought, their team was a lot of influx.
They had a lot of turnover. They had a lot
of guys that remember when they cut Laura malloy, and
they couldn't like they let like all pro guys go.
(58:04):
And those are years where they can still get to
the division round, to get to the AMFC Championship game,
but you just you can't. You don't have that extra
guy to get to the super Bowl, like those other years.
I could see that possibly happen to a casey because
I'm going by history. No NFL team runs the table
guys for like ten straight years. That doesn't happen. Get
about a four or five year window then contracts in
the way the CBA is set up. If things gotta happen,
you can still got my homes. You're still gonna win
(58:26):
thirteen fourteen games. But in the AFC Championship game, has
Burrow finally got a defense? Does Josh Allen finally beat
him one day? Does Lamar Jackson finally get him again?
Right now, it's like, Wow, he's lost three RC championship games.
It's still got the three rings. But now we're starting
to see some of these other teams and other quarterbacks.
I think that's part of the narrative too.
Speaker 3 (58:42):
Yeah, we'll see Lamar Jackson's two MVPs in this stretch.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
Yeah, and but no, Lamar Jackson an MVP in the stretch,
can't beat them. No conference championship wins for anybody except
for Joe Burrow coming on next NBA trades flew fast
and furious. Which one has the biggest impact on the
next forty or so games?
Speaker 3 (59:01):
Of the season. We'll get to that in just a minute.

Which move do you think we'll have the biggest impact
on this season the remaining forty games that the NBA
has to play as we're in the middle of the
All Star break.
Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
I think the easy answer, I think for most people
would be Luca to the Lakers. But I just Ian
and I were talking about how I feel about that.
It's not that one for me. I like the moves
and I know I'm gonna mess up Butcher's name Hunter
to pick up for Cleveland to get a guy like
DeAndre Hunter.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
Correct, all right, good guy, It all right.
Speaker 4 (01:01:06):
DeAndre Hunter, a D and three guy what you need
to win a championship, and he's not gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
Asked to do a lot. There.
Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
You're being traded from the Hawks to the top team
in the East, and they got so many pieces there
and they're my number one team in my power of five.
But that move right there, man, was was big for me.
You get a you get a six six sixty seven
wing guy who can defend three positions, four position on
perimeter and doesn't mind playing defense and getting and getting
a little nasty, getting a little elbow in there, and
(01:01:34):
the petts and boards and he's gonna hit the three
ball for you. It spreads the floor now. And now
you got a guy like Donovan Mitchell, who's got who's
got a another role, guy to create get into the
lane and kick out too. I thought I thought that
was the bigger move in the move. I think it's
gonna work out. When you see the best team in
the conference make a move to get a real impact,
(01:01:55):
impact type player, I think that's always the best move.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
I'll come with my best of the NBA treadd line
in just a minute, But first we have Team the
Saga to update us on the Scinti.
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
Letting events happening in San Francisco right now.
Speaker 7 (01:02:08):
Well, there's actual competition going on in Montreal because people
are trying and it's actually exciting. Yeah, we had three
fights first nine seconds of US at Canada tonight. This
is hockey's Four Nations face off. They've started the second period.
US tied one one at Canada. Finland won in overtime
today against Sweden for to three. And yeah, NBA All
Star Weekend is in San Francisco. It started with the
(01:02:30):
Youth the Rising Stars on Friday. Winner of that will
compete Sunday as Team Chris Mullen advanced to go against
the Big Boys in the All Star Game in San
Francisco Sunday night, which, by the way, the All Star
Game kind of a misnomer.
Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
Now it's now a.
Speaker 7 (01:02:44):
Four team mini tournament Skills Challenge tonight, won by Cleveland
beating host Golden State in the final. Three point contest
has its final going on right now. Tyler Hero was
in the lead in the final Buddy Healed had by
far the best first round to advance slam dunk content.
This coming up later. There is college basketball on Fox
TV right now twelve minutes to go, and Illinois at
(01:03:07):
home is tied with eleventh ranked Michigan State fifty six
fifty six, fifteenth rank Kentucky only leads at Texas forty
eight forty six early in the second half and halftime.
Number three Florida, which is to thirty seven to thirty
three lead over South Carolina, which is winless in the
SEC this year.
Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
Oh and eleven.
Speaker 7 (01:03:25):
Number one ranked Auburn won at number two Alabama ninety
four to eighty five. Three weeks left in the regular season.
In college hoops, Auburn will host Alabama to end the season.
Wins in the top ten for Duke Texas A and
m and Iowa State. At fifth ranked Tennessee, the Balls
trailed Vanderbuilt by sixteen just before halftime, but came back
to beat him eighty one seventy six, six thrank Houston
(01:03:47):
won at number thirteen Arizona sixty two to fifty eight,
and at number seven per Due sixteenth rank Wisconsin pulled
off the upset, scored fifty eight points in the second
half and beat Purdue ninety four to eighty four. Victories
for ten Texas Tech and Missouri wins for Clemson and
number twenty two Mississippi State, which held on to win
at number nineteen old miss eighty one seventy one. A reminder,
(01:04:09):
Sunday's Daytona five hundred TV coverage will start an hour
early due to the weather forecast, which is not great.
The race is due to begin at two pm Eastern
Time on Fox TV. By the way, the Dodgers full
squad workouts at spring training started today the Cubs yesterday.
The Cubs and Dodgers opened in Tokyo in March.
Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
Back to you, thanks Steve Martin and VJ comings to
you live from the tai Iraq dot Com studios for
me and I want your opinion here, VJ. I think
the biggest are not the biggest. It wasn't the biggest
biggest name obviously the move was Luca Dogs. But the
train I think well have the most impact on the
remainder of this season is the San Antonio Spurs getting
(01:04:51):
de Aaron Fox. This is a team that is four
and a half or three and a half games out
of the play in tournament right now. Now with the
Mavericks gonna be skyrocketing to our skyrocketing, it's the wrong way,
free falling to the bottom. The Suns, I think, are
gonna be going towards the bottom. And I think the
Kings obviously take deeron Fox from them, they're gonna be worse.
(01:05:14):
I think the Spurs were a team that we're going
to completely miss the playoffs to now a team that
have a shot to be a team hosting a play
in game, or if things break.
Speaker 3 (01:05:26):
Right for them down the second half of this thing,
to be a sixth, sixth seed in the postseason.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
And when you're a guy like Victor Winnbinyama who has
been touted and as the next best thing sice Bread,
look out, Victor win Benyama's on the way.
Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
You need to see this guy in the postseason. That's huge.
Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
And I think trading for de Aaron Fox Mica waves
the process a little bit. As long as they can
can put you know, Chris Paul put them down on
the bench a little bit. It's okay, all right, thank you,
thanks for your service.
Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
I don't, I don't, I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:05:58):
I'm not gonna get married to the I just I
just think that you look at Golden State, they get
Jimmy Butler. I'm not sure what that's gonna do for them,
but he is a better player than what they've had.
Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
I don't think I thought Golden State got better.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
The teams I'm targeting falling out are Dallas, Sacramento in Phoenix.
Well down terms of the teams that are going to
be struggling, I think Golden State will be about the same.
Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
Well, Dallas has got the injury bug. Now Ad could
be having season endo surgery. Gotford is out for six weeks.
They're down to Derek Lively. I mean they can call
Mongolia and see if the Marcus Boogie Cousins wants to
try to get back in the league or Dwight Howard,
who is now a finalist for the Hall of Fame.
So I think he's pretty much I think Dwight Howard
is pretty much done.
Speaker 8 (01:06:40):
Competing in the three point contest over and overseas was
Dwight Howard.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
Yeah, he still look Listen, Broy, listen, if basketball was
just looks he still looks like he can play, right.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
The guy still looks like.
Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
He's in tremendous shape us all TikTok video with him
and his lovely wife the other.
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
Morning, and you know he got the key there.
Speaker 4 (01:07:00):
What's gonna happen with Minnesota Phoenix is just the Phoenix
just feels like a dumpster fire man, like Bradley Bil.
I'm watching them play the other night against Memphis, and
I'm watching Bradley Bil and I'm like God, I told
people he's Gilbert Arena's two point zero guys.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
You'll have a few two good, you know, money.
Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
Type years where you'll think he's this great player and
just he's the scorer as a shooter. He doesn't play defense,
he doesn't really work on this game. It's kind of
what he was at Florida. He's the same guy. So
you know, they were thinking about trying to trade d
Rant back to Koda State. A lot going on there
the Spurs. I didn't think they'd be this bad. I
thought when they signed Chris Paul, I thought that would
actually help elevate the team. And they're better than they
(01:07:40):
were last year record wise at this point, but still
sitting six games under five hundred.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
This team isn't close to five hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
I mean, but the team is definitely elevated from where
they were last year.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
This you know, yeah it record wise, they're elevated. Record wise,
they are elevated. Point. They can't win on the road.
That's my problem.
Speaker 4 (01:07:59):
And when you got thirty games left, I'm assuming at
least half of them things gonna be on the road,
or just under half are gonna be on the road.
They're nine and six. They can't win on the road.
So if they're gonna be on the road, I just
don't I just don't see it. I think I think
go to State State's firm. I think they get into
the plan. I think Kyrie's enough, not enough to win anything,
but enough not to fall out of the plan. And
they just went up and got to get to win
(01:08:19):
in Boston without AD. Then they go to Houston and
get a win without a D Like they've gone on
the road. They got some other guys there. But I
just think the injuries are gonna catch up to them.
I think though we're deeping up into the season to
where they don't fall out.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
So I would say that I would say.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
The Spurs miss the play in I would think the
Spurs missed the plan. I get the Aaron Fox. I'm
still kind of, you know, fifty to fifty even on
him as a player.
Speaker 3 (01:08:43):
I like his game, but I haven't seen them like
I haven't seen that leap.
Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
He's kind of been the guy who's been the last
like three or four years, and it's just like, okay, brother,
I need to see something different. I mean, think about it.
He was Sacramento's franchise player and they traded him. He
was their guy and they traded him, So that shows
you what they thought. Also demanded out after they well
I mean I get that, but at the end of
(01:09:08):
the day, if you're still the team's best player and
they trade you, that still matters whether you demand it
or not. You still got traded as the team's best player,
and you gotta sit to another five hundred team. Now,
we'll see how much he elevates. We'll see how much
Chris Paul's gonna send on a bitch and give him time.
I just like I said, I think it's a nice player.
I'm just never been sold on Darien Fox being that
guy that's gonna lead your franchise anywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
Well, the leader of the franchise will be Victim Win.
Minyama just got a point guard. Like, so that's where
the take is coming from. It's not necessarily a Dearn
Fox is going to be, you know, stepping his game
up to some level.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
That I mean, he was best player.
Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
On a team that had home court advantage two years
ago in the Sacramento But either way more likely to
occur from the super Bowl fallout because me and ian
were talking about this pre show.
Speaker 3 (01:09:54):
If you look at Nick.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Sirianni's last three seasons, starts with a super Bowl loss, right,
then goes ten to one and free falls fast and
Tom Petty down a cliff to lose to that Baker
Bucks led team, then super Bowl win, right, So we saw,
(01:10:15):
I mean, just about as successful as you can be
with that winning the super Bowl three years ago, disaster
second half of the year, year two, year three, as
successful as you can be. If you had to predict
going forward for next season, more likely Eagles repeat or
Eagles fall off.
Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
A cliff repeat.
Speaker 4 (01:10:36):
I think it's far more to the repeat side because
they're young, they don't have a bunch of guys. They
gotta scramble around and figure out contracts. This year, important
pieces they got guys on rookie contracts, still they got young,
they got young talent. There, you have Saquon Barkley, you have,
in my opinion, a MVP style quarterback. You're still gonna
have that defense, just gonna have Vic Vangiel. That defense
probably gonna be better. Think about that defus can be better.
Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
Next year.
Speaker 4 (01:10:59):
They're gonna add people. They gonna draft well, they've been
drafted well.
Speaker 3 (01:11:01):
Look at the team. They've been drafted really well.
Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
And you think we had the GM debate last week, right,
we had the GM debate. You had it for Deagles.
So I don't think that's gonna fall off a cliff.
I think it's way more likely. I think it could
be tougher. I think the Lions bounced back. I think
Washington's good. I think something happens with Dallas. I think
Dallas bounces back this year. They have a good ross.
I think I think Michael Parsons is gone, which I
(01:11:24):
predicted over the summer. If you pay CD Lamb, something's
gonna have to happen with Parsons. But I think it's
way more likely they get back to just fall off
a cliff because honestly, as long as twenty six is
is healthy, turn a hand the ball it's football, one
on one, run the football, and you have that it
takes the weight in the pressure having this shoulder or
load to running the football and stuff off of Jalen Hurts.
(01:11:44):
I thought that was really evident this year. Like I said,
young players, young defense, I definitely like them to be
probably back in the NFC Championship game.
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
More likely to repeat than fall off a cliff.
Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
I said, more likely to repeat than fall off a
cliff as well, but I cause I think that falling
off a cliff is really hard or a roster that
that's good.
Speaker 8 (01:12:01):
Well, let me pose one thing to you guys, because
there have been nine teams in the Super Bowl era
to successfully defend their titles.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
There have been nine teimes repeat absolutely.
Speaker 8 (01:12:10):
So you'd be saying, if they repeat, they're one of
the best Super Bowl teams ever.
Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
Now we're now, we're back.
Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
Now we're back to the quarterback conversation, because what's the fact.
Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
The fact is that they did it and.
Speaker 4 (01:12:23):
There were only one of ten teams that ever do
it in sixty years of Super Bowls, So it would
be a conversation. But then once you start breaking the
team down, you know you have the Cowboys, you got
the Niners, you got the Steelers, you got the Packers,
you got the Patriots, the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
Who am I missing? That's six.
Speaker 4 (01:12:39):
I'm not missing somebody in there. But I said the Steelers,
So one of those pickers. But you know, cowboys, cowboys
of repeat it.
Speaker 8 (01:12:46):
What I mean is you can pose the question as
do you think it's more likely that they're one of
the best Super Bowl teams in the modern era or
that they fall off.
Speaker 4 (01:12:55):
A clay if they went back to back, then yeah,
you'd have to say that, because then that means what
they're doing is working. It's hard to get there, and
it's harder to win. It's even harder to restart in
July and go again and then win again the following year.
It's it's it's it's the hardest thing to do. Also
with the Chiefs too, Just a quick sybbarn and Chiefs.
Remember teams that lose don't go back to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
Think there's only been two.
Speaker 4 (01:13:19):
Teams to do that in the last thirty five years.
I believe the Bills and Patriots the other teams that
when they lose the Super Bowl to go back the
following year.
Speaker 3 (01:13:30):
Kansas City, Kansas City Tampa, and then the next year
was and the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Yes, yes it was a resume. There's only two teams
to do it. There are the only two teams that
lose the Super Bowl and go back. That's another just
sidebar about the Super Bowl and these two teams moving forward.
But I just think this team is set up right.
Where's their holes, who's leaving? What are they what are
they losing? I think they're right. I think they love
the coordinator. Coordinator is going to go be ahead of coach.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
That's and that's third year in a row they're gonna
lose their offensive coordinator to a different job. I think
that has major impact. I think the Eagles offensive line.
If the Eagles offensive line is not healthy, they're not
winning anything.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
I think that's the biggest thing for me.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:14:10):
They were able to.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Piece together in the NFC Championship game, Cam Jurgens and
Landon Dickerson back and forth at the center position, and
then after two weeks they were able to you know, obviously,
you know, extra time off between Championship game posting and
the Super Bowl was no impact.
Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
We saw no impact that front. But to me, the.
Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
Eagles offensive line is so important that if those if
they lose two or three guys on the offensive line,
this whole thing falls apart. Tousch pushes out the window
play actions done. And I don't think that they have,
Like I say, Kwa bark is great running back, you
got to have at least two or three guys blocked
up in front of you to be make things happen.
And I don't think they have the level of quarterback
(01:14:51):
that we see s Perennial getting MVP level votes and
being because he's a guy who's carrying the team here
and every single week type of thing.
Speaker 4 (01:15:00):
The GM, like you said, how Roseman does a great job. Whatever,
whatever they saw on the line this year, they'll fix
in the off season. They'll be a free agent signing.
We don't know anything to fix right now currently. I'm
saying mid through the through the season.
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
Let's say you lose backed in week four, and then
Lane Johnson week six, and you lose another guy week seven,
and then week eight. Now you're now you're signing from
the street, you signed from your practice squad. You're piecing
together you're offensive line very much in the same way
that the Lions pieced together their defensive line.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
This year.
Speaker 4 (01:15:30):
I think if the Eagles were in that spot, cancel Christmas.
I'll go what I've seen. What I've seen in the
line was healthy. And when it's healthy, they've the lead's
best prusher and uh, you know, protect the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
He had all day and the Super.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
Bowl to agree. If guys don't get hurt, they would
stay healthy. Coming up next to a game of Who
You Got? By producer Ian NBA All Star Game Edition,
No all Right? Coming up next Martin Wis's VJ Husky
Fox Sports Football Saturday. Come to your line from the
Tirack dot Com studios. You can hit us up on
Twitter with your two cents. Now, time for a game
of who you Got?
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
All Right?
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Who You Got? NBA All Star Edition.
Speaker 8 (01:16:04):
We're currently watching the NBA All Star festivities as they
go on right now, but we actually have always done
football for the show, so it's gonna be fun to
switch it up a little bit. Have an NBA player
you guys are trying to guess here?
Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Oh? Doing basketball? Basketball? Yes, sir, switching it up. I
don't think we've ever done basketball.
Speaker 8 (01:16:21):
I don't think we have either, so so yeah, let's
start here. This guy was drafted by the Golden State Warriors.
Klay Thompson No, Chris Molly No. He played in four
(01:16:41):
NBA All Star Games and made First Team All NBA twice.
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
Four All Star Games, two times first Manda Ellis no.
Latrell's pretty well no, He's never won an NBA championship.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
Drafted by the Warriors. Four All Star Games. This is
a guy who's famous for never winning a championship. I'm
sure drafted by the Warriors.
Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
Did he? How bet he never played for the Warriors.
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (01:17:14):
Tracey McGrady was not drafted by the Warriors. Nope, incorrect.
Four All Stars, one First Team All NBA. Drafted by
the Warriors. But no chippy.
Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
He said.
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
Monte Alice was a good guess, but never won a chippy.
Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
Monte is a good guess, but no.
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
I have a feeling this is a guy who was
drafted by Golden State, only played a year or two there,
and was traded or immediately.
Speaker 8 (01:17:39):
Dana Barrels, No, all right, here we are he never
He scored his career high of forty two against the
Nets in nineteen ninety five.
Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
Forty two nineteen ninety five. Chris Webber, Nope, not a
bad guess though.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
Oh oh oh uh uh slice, light skinned guy. I
can't get his name. His face is in my head.
Uh that says pretty well. Goodness gracious.
Speaker 4 (01:18:14):
Five uh spit Spence, Spencer, Spitzer, Spitzer, Spencer, Spencer Halls.
Speaker 3 (01:18:20):
He was a Philly I'll give you another clue here.
Speaker 8 (01:18:22):
While he's considered an all time player, his career was
derailed by injuries, stopping him from achieving his potential.
Speaker 3 (01:18:30):
Great hill.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
No, he drafted by the Pistons. Oh good, uh, blew
that one, Brandon Roy.
Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
Nope, here's another one.
Speaker 8 (01:18:39):
He jes No, he goes by a nickname, but his
real first name is Anthony Oh Penny Hardaway.
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
That's right. I was scared that he was. Yeah, he
did get he was drafted by him. You're right, was
drafted by the way they traded him on draft.
Speaker 7 (01:18:55):
No.
Speaker 8 (01:18:56):
He This is what Mary was saying, is you're weirdly
good at that stuff. Because last week Martin with Devonte Freeman,
I said he in the Super Bowl, he had two
receptions for forty six yards, and right away you were like,
I bet it's a I bet it's a running back.
Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
Nunners only the one first team All NBA twice twice twice. Oh, okay,
I was about to say, all it up? Did we did?
I was about to say, did we forget ninety four,
ninety five, ninety two, ninety three? He uh, the other clues.
Speaker 8 (01:19:22):
Shack famously said this guy was Kobe before Kobe said
that on his podcast relatively recently.
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (01:19:29):
And he's the current head coach at the University of
Memphis Memphis.
Speaker 3 (01:19:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
Yeah, Penny Hardaway one of the coldest shoes out Penny
Hardaway shoes.
Speaker 5 (01:19:39):
That's really sick. How you got that? By the way,
like you just said, Oh yeah, he definitely didn't like.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
That was weird. I mean I didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
That's that's the story of my life right around the answer.
Can't get it right right there? New mad details about
the answer with struggling to actually nail the response.
Speaker 4 (01:19:56):
Penny Hardaway was the guard that magic was the guard
that injured whose tall point guards and distributing and running
the show. Penny was the first tall guard they came
in and they took it up to the scoring that
ninety three to ninety four season. People need to go
back and look at that it went and just shack man,
Penny was a Dog.
Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Coming up next, right in the middle of the Slam
Dunk contest, Can anything be done to save the NBA
All Star Game?
Speaker 3 (01:20:20):
And we'll recap our playoff fix Martin de VJ.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
That's why the we're broadcasting live from the tire rack

road as a protection in over ten thousand recommended his
dollars tire rack dot Com. It's the way that tire
buying should be. We're in the midst of the NBA
Slam Dunk Contest right now. Andre Jackson Junior attempting his
(01:20:49):
second attempt here on what I believe to be his
first dunk over the round. We'll dive into the NBA
All Star Game in about six minutes and hopefully have
a better showing than Andre Jackson Junior just did on
that dunk attempt. But right now, let's go ahead and
recap for the last time our NFL playoff picks.
Speaker 8 (01:21:06):
Just waiting on that music, Yeah, there we go. All right,
So reviewing the playoff picks. So remember Martin won the
regular season, but now it's time to decide to determine
who won the playoffs. So we're gonna go through the
Super Bowl picks. We had thirteen props that we went on.
That's actually a lot. So let's go down one by one.
Jalen Hurts two hundred and thirteen and a half passing yards.
(01:21:29):
You both said over, and you were both correct. Patrick
Mahomes two hundred and fifty two and a half passing yards.
You both said under. You were both incorrect.
Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
He spent over two fifty two. Yeah, it was garbage time,
remember that deep bomb behavior worthy.
Speaker 8 (01:21:42):
Yeah, two fifty seven fifty seven, so twenty four yards in.
Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
The first half.
Speaker 8 (01:21:48):
Saquon Barkley one hundred and twelve point five rushing yards.
Martin you said under, VJ. You said over, he went under.
Martin was correct on that one. Travis Kelcey sixty two
and a half receiving yards. You both correctly predicted he
would go under. AJ Brown seventy one and a half
receiving yards. Martin said under, which was correct. VJ said over.
First downs for Kansas City nineteen and a half. You
both were adamant it would be less. Boy, were you right?
Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
How many did they end up past. I don't know,
I just knew it was less than nineteen and a half.
Got you gatorade color? Martin you said blue, VJ. You
said purple. I like that.
Speaker 8 (01:22:20):
You both went off on a limb. But it was
the favorite. It was the lemon, lime green.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Well, when Day put three freaking colors, that's the favorite, I.
Speaker 8 (01:22:27):
Mean last to score. You both said the Eagles. It
was actually the Chiefs. That was the aforementioned Xavier Worthy
deep bomb touchdown that got Mahomes over on his prop
longest touchdown. You both said Eagles, which was wrong. This
or Xavier Worthy fifty five and a half receiving yards.
You both said over, which was correct. This is where
VJ made his money back Chiefs minus one versus Eagles. Martin,
(01:22:50):
you took the Chiefs, VJ took the Eagles. That was correct.
MVP Martin, you said, Patrick Mahomes and then your long
shot was Devonte Smith. VJ you said Jalen Hurts. Your
long shot was AJB round. Jalen Hurst was the MVP.
So you got it and then finally over under forty
eight and a half. Martin said under. VJ said over
and over was correct. So for the Super Bowl VJ
(01:23:12):
you were seven and six, Martin, you were six and seven.
So overall in the playoffs, VJ is the winner with
a final score of seventeen and nine Martin thirteen and thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
Well done, boys, well five hundred. There you go. Didn't
lose the money.
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
First downs for Kansas City twelve twelve first downs to
twenty one for the Eagles. Now, had Patrick Mahomes not
completed that pass to Worthy, we would have been right
on under right on Underworthy yards and right on Eagles
longest play right.
Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
Is that correct? That is correct? But it happened.
Speaker 4 (01:23:47):
I thought, Josh, what, I'm sorry, go ahead, No, I
was just gonna say, it's the Saquan one. I could
feel that coming. He couldn't he couldn't find any holes.
But they just kept I mean, they gave it to
him twenty five times. It didn't even matter. By the
end of the middle of the third quarter. It's like,
why bother uh even running the ball?
Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
Get will Shipley some some love. I'm saying game.
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
Well, I know a popular prop every Super Bowl is
over two and a half players to throw a pass.
Generally speaking, that's because you imagine there's going to be
a trick play of some sort, not because we're going
to see backup quarterbacks like Kenny Pickett took Super Bowl snaps.
Speaker 3 (01:24:24):
I didn't even think about that, but Kenny.
Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
Pickett took Super Bowl snaps. That's what's wild about this
or one of the wild things about it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:33):
Now with the was one other thing that I wanted
to touch on.
Speaker 4 (01:24:37):
When do we when do we start to talk about
Andy Reid and his lack of adjustments in this game?
Speaker 1 (01:24:41):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
It was disgusting. They didn't wiggle at all. And it's
been a topic. I think it's just been kind.
Speaker 4 (01:24:47):
Of glossed over because it nothing was different from the
first half to the second half and all the garbage
points and all the garbage time, Uh, where the Chiefs
really kind of you know the the he wass a
waving a white black like game over, you got your
ass kick. We're just waiting to pour the gatorade down
in the caffetti to fall.
Speaker 3 (01:25:05):
But he he got.
Speaker 4 (01:25:06):
And I tweeted in like the second quarter, is anybody
gonna tweet about the way Vic Vangiel is out coaching
Andy Reid right now? And I want to make sure
I put that out in live time so that in
the second quarter where at the party I was host
and I'm like, hey man, this thing's this thing's not
looking good. They're not running any different type of plays.
And if you remember last Saturday I talked about I
(01:25:27):
thought this could be a game where we could see
Mahomes escaping the pocket a lot because of the pressure
that would come right up the middle. And that's exactly
what the Eagles did. I would just take at some point,
where's Andy, where's Andy's fall? Not I hate these fall
but when are we gonna start to just say, hey,
Andy Reid got out coached for the world to see.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
Rob Parker's ready to fire him. I don't know if
he saw that. No, I didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
That was his stake this week. All takes are better
when they're rooted in the level of fact. I'll just
put it like that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:57):
But the Andy Reid, the thing that to me.
Speaker 2 (01:26:01):
Was the most damning was the lack of rushing attempts
as the game progressed.
Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
You saw.
Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
It wasn't until now I get it that Philly was
not necessarily balls to the wall so to speak, in
the third and fourth quarters of that game, because it
was not even close. But Kansas City. To me, as
soon as they started running the ball, they started having
some offensive success. I don't understand why they didn't try
to run the ball earlier, but I think honestly, what
(01:26:31):
it boils down to, And I know that this may
be a little unfair, but when Patrick Mahomes has two
interceptions that lead directly to fourteen points, one a pick six,
the other one in his own red zone, are in
the Eagles red zone?
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
Was that born with that.
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
Interception leads directly to fourteen points in a game in
which they lose by twenty was forty to twenty two.
They were fourteen eighteen points. If he just plays better,
like if he just doesn't turn the ball over, I
think we're looking at an entirely different situation. So while
I begrudge Andy Reid for not necessarily making adjustments.
Speaker 3 (01:27:15):
I think that if Mahomes just didn't play the worst
game he's ever played, the Chiefs are gonna be in
a one score game in like late in.
Speaker 4 (01:27:25):
That game marabut To, that would be play calling, right,
all right. So they're they're rushing four and dropping seven
all game. That was the defensive So you have to
call plays that you have to there's got to be
a play sheet you have for form a rush and
you got to go to those plays. It felt like
everything was trying to go downfield and if you don't
(01:27:45):
have time, then we need more quick hit plays. Where
was the quick slant to Hopkins. Hopkins is a big
body guy. When they threw him a late you know
they threw it to him late in the game. He
scored right when they were trying to get the garbage points.
Where was those play calling? That's to me, is the
out being out? Coach Vic Vangel says we're gonna rush four.
We're not even blitzing. We're gonna rush four. We're gonna
(01:28:06):
drop seven. But it felt like it almost reminded me
when the Ravens tried to make Lamar Jackson a pocket
patch in the AFC Championship Game last year. The team
that's led the league in rushing for the last twenty
four months decides we're not gonna run the ball today,
And it just felt like the team that only had
I believe four plays over thirty yards if I'm not mistaken,
and that was twenty eighth in the league. As far
(01:28:27):
as they're big plays, they weren't a big play offense.
But it felt like, Okay, we're at the super Bowl.
No we're still gonna show people we're a big play offense. Well,
no you're not, because you weren't all year long forty
yard plays. I think it was I just think that
at that time quick slant hitch, there was not a
screen throw. Where was the wide receiver screen to Xavier Worthy?
You got the speech there. It felt like they were
(01:28:47):
just trying to run him downfield. It felt like they
were trying to relive what the Chiefs used to be
instead of what they are now. To me, that's play calling,
that's adjustments.
Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Felt like the first time all year for me watching
Kansas City that they cared how they won the game.
Like we talked about this with other programs, but it
felt like the first time they cared how they won,
Like it was important that Mahomes got another MVP trophy,
It was important like that they wanted to highlight him
(01:29:17):
in a way that felt weird when you consider the
way that they won games on special teams. They won
game getting big time sacks or big time interceptions lat
in games, and they won games by making last second
field goals. They won just about every way you could
imagine Kansas City did throughout this entire season.
Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
But for whatever reason in this.
Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
Super Bowl, I think, well, I say for whatever reason,
I think the reason was sitting up there calling color
for Fox, the idea they were chasing Tom Brady, right,
the idea of feeling the feeling the pressure of chasing
a Tom Brady for Patrick Mahomes, feeling the ability to
do something that Brady has never been able to do.
And that's a feather that you'll have in your cap forever.
Because Brady's not playing anymore. Right, So Brady doesn't even
(01:30:00):
have the opportunity to add to his resume. But the
same way that Brady had the opportunity to add to
his resume will never take off the fact that in Mahomes'
first playoff, Brady sent them home. You know, Brady sent
him home in his first Super Bowl, right, So there's
that juxtaposition.
Speaker 3 (01:30:14):
I think we saw it way on Mahomes. We saw
we saw him and Travis Kelsey play a game, and
we have not seen them play in three years.
Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
I get everything. They're older, Kelsey's older, he's dating Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3 (01:30:26):
All that, all that was true two weeks ago. All
that was true three weeks ago, four weeks ago, even
six weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (01:30:32):
Right, So I think that we saw for the first
time in the longest the Chiefs cared about the style
in which they won the fight because they really wanted
Mahomes to get all leave no doubt unturned that Mahomes
would have been the MVP and all of this of
the game.
Speaker 4 (01:30:49):
Yeah, that's essentially how I see it as far as
wanting to go for deeper plays instead of just calling
what's going to move the ball? They ran the ball,
and I think it's ian you could check this forward
eleven rush attempts, I think, and Philly ran in forty three,
Like Philly literally turns like, no, we're gonna run the football,
and I e would.
Speaker 3 (01:31:07):
Think at forty nine yard ye eleven rushing attempts.
Speaker 4 (01:31:10):
So it's you think about that, like they weren't even
trying to run the football. They weren't even trying to
just get small chunk yards here and there. It just
felt like, no, we're gonna run these deep you know,
these deep timing, time consuming routes. But your your your
offensive line is not getting time with a four man rush.
You gotta call different stuff. Man, you gotta get dink
and dunk if it is what it is. I mean,
(01:31:30):
just this is what you've been doing all year and
you've been winning a game, So why would you try
to change it? Try to change it now. So something's
definitely got to move in a different direction. Ian and
I were talking during a commercial break, like, you know,
they have to redo their wide receiver room, they have
to redo their tight end room, and they have to
redo their running back room. The three skill positions on
offense other than quarterback, they have to do these rooms.
(01:31:50):
It's out there that Kelsey is considering retirement. I think
once you start considering it, you're there.
Speaker 3 (01:31:55):
You know, even if he.
Speaker 4 (01:31:56):
Comes back next year, he's not gonna be the same way.
He also to catches yards, touchdown's gone down the last
three years.
Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
It's going back like it's I don't want to say over.
Speaker 4 (01:32:04):
But hey, man, if you want to just leave with
and say face, like say, don't get to Super Bowl
next year, probably you know, okay, I should have just
left off the loss instead of trying to come back
and get back. So they have a lot of things
that got to change. That's got to change. There and
I'll tell you some of these deals they've signed also
to it'll be questionable. We know it as an NFL.
You sign a guy and it's great, but the year
(01:32:25):
two goes by and you gotta now allocate money other places,
and that's when you start to see teams fall apart.
I think if there is a year that they can
miss the Super Bowl and this run there on, it's
probably most likely twenty twenty five, just off of just
the changes that are gonna have to happen. Now. They
can go out and get Devonte Adams, right, they can
they go out and get a big name guy to
come in and fill in. I don't know who you're
(01:32:45):
getting to replace Kelsey right, all time great first Battle,
Hall of Famer probably, but they definitely have some changes
that they're gonna have to make moving forward. And I
think that if there's a year man, not a down year,
but a year we're not talking about them in the
super Bowl, it's probably gonna be twenty twenty five. I
could even though bouncing back in twenty twenty six as
they fix maybe some things they think they have holes
in right now.
Speaker 2 (01:33:07):
So Tom Brady started his Super Bowl arc throwing touchdowns
to guys like Troy Brown and David Patton, and he
ended it throwing touchdowns to guys like Rob Gronkowski. Right,
So the idea that the like we had the debate
the day before the Super Bowl, which GM was better
Brett Veach Hovey Roseman the spoiler alert, they're both really,
(01:33:29):
really good. This is going to be just as much
on Brett Veach as it is on Patrick Mahomes. They've
got to be able to turn this thing, renovate the
house on the low for the cheap right now, because
you're still hosting Christmas dinner coming up. Now, this was
(01:33:51):
a staple in the sports landscape. Does it need to
just go away? We'll get to that in just a minute.
Martin Wis Vija Husky, Fox Sports Saturday coming to you
Live and the tie rack dot Com Studios. Martin Wiss
VJ Husky. You can follow us on Twitter at tweet
the show I'm at Martin Wise VJ at Big Vanilla
(01:34:12):
Funny will answer your tweets. Coming up shortly in the
midst of the NBA All Star festivities right now going
on in San Francisco at the Chase Center. We have
reached the final round of the Slam Dunk Contest, Stefan
Castle versus Mac McClung. Let's go around, quick, pick a
winter everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:34:31):
I guess Matt mccla I don't even I don't even
know if I even know who who's even in this thing?
Speaker 6 (01:34:35):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:34:35):
It's Max McClung and Stefan Cassel Mack mclunk for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:34:38):
Oh, if there's just those two guys left, I'll give
it them Mat, I'll give it to the time two time,
back to back dunk guy.
Speaker 3 (01:34:44):
I've got Castle, I've got Castle. I want to be different.
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
I am rooting for Stefan Castle to win the Dunk
Contest for the simple reason that Mac McClung it should
be ineligible to be a it is this third time time.
Speaker 3 (01:34:59):
Yeah, she should not. He was talking about three peats.
He should be ineligible for a three. You're trying to deprive,
trying to deprive us right now. Oh, they can't miss
NBA All Star weekend festivities. And he just cleared the car, right, Yeah,
so did Blake Griffin ten years ago.
Speaker 5 (01:35:15):
No, no, no, no VJ said that he landed on the hood.
Speaker 4 (01:35:18):
He doesn't clear that car. He lands on that hood.
Always got ripped for saying it. But he swings and
his feet land on the hood. He never cleared the car.
He didn't clear and jump over it. He swings on
the hood the rim and then when he lets go,
he lands on the hood of it. So I always thought, well,
he didn't jump over the car. You have to land
on the other side in my opinion, just for it
to be considered. He jumped over a car, right.
Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
So you know why this was better though, because he
was in the NBA. You know that's such a chief shot. Ye, yes,
that was so that's so cheap.
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
No, No, in the NBA because they were calling Maxba
Calim up from Ossiola, Florida or wherever the hell he
was playing.
Speaker 3 (01:35:57):
Better put some respect on that.
Speaker 8 (01:35:59):
But that is the issue with with with All Star
Weekend right now, is the fact that the biggest name
in what used to be the biggest you know contest
they put on he's a g laker.
Speaker 4 (01:36:08):
The smart thing back in the day with the dunk
contest is the star they did it. Do it while
you're young, like, get it out of the way while
you still got young legs, young Jordan Dominique, you know,
even Doctor J. And Doctor J was a little older
because remember he was in the ABA with the Virginia
Squires before he got to the Philadelphia seventy six ers
and then that's when he did the dunk contest here.
But he did do an ABA dunk contest with the
(01:36:29):
Philadelphia seventy sixth and Virginia Squars also too, one that
I think Larry Nance won if I'm not mistaken. But
there's there's I mean, the big name guys just won't
do it. And that's because I don't know if it's
failure of law, losing or being ridiculed on social media,
whatever the case is, but just the big names just
want to do.
Speaker 3 (01:36:46):
Vince did it, young, Tracy McGrady did it.
Speaker 4 (01:36:48):
If you go back and remember the Vince Carter dunk contest,
which was at the Bay at the where Golden State plays. Ironically,
that's where they are this weekend. It won't just him.
Steve Francis and Tracy McGrady were also dunk in the
ass off that night. Man. It's just that you're going
to gainst Vince like the guy's putting his arm in
a rim. And I remember that dunk because we had
to wait a second, and guys, you can hear the
(01:37:08):
commentators laugh like, hold ho, did he just And then
you're like, okay, did he just stick his arm in
the rim to show? Yet this is how high I
can jump. So that just with some of the bigger names.
But kudos to this kid for taking advantage of it. Man,
nobody would know him any other way and now we do,
so I'm not mad at him.
Speaker 2 (01:37:26):
So with the new NBA All Star format, you think
this helps hurts indifferent the All Star Game or whatever
the hell you want to call the All Star festivities
that would.
Speaker 3 (01:37:36):
Happen tomorrow thinking different.
Speaker 4 (01:37:38):
I think the way people feel about it now is
how they're gonna feel about it. I don't think that
they could do anything this way, even if they went
back to East and West and not picking like okay,
you got this many votes, you got this many votes,
you got this many votes, and then we're going back
to the old way of how we get the reserves.
Even if they did that, I think it's just too
far gone for people to care about. And I just
(01:37:59):
think it's in. I don't think they're doing anything to
push more people away, and I don't think they can
do anything to get.
Speaker 2 (01:38:04):
People back, So I think the number one thing they
can do to get people back, Like, I get it
that Mac mcclun just jumped over a car and it's
Stefan Castle just may have I don't know whoever announce
the winner of this or you know he's out here doing.
Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
Novel idea. If you're gonna be doing NBA All Star events,
they should be done by NBA All Stars. Novel idea.
Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
But like, why am I watching multiple not the best
player on their team at All Star weekend?
Speaker 3 (01:38:43):
The Pro Bowl is not even real anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:38:46):
I get that, but they still are sending generally the
best players on their team. Stefan Castle is here simply
because he is a first year player.
Speaker 3 (01:38:57):
That is it.
Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
Victim went Binyama, you know, he might have made that
Allstar team as whatever. But the point remaining, like these
guys you're not here because they are so graded basketball,
which is the kind of the point to.
Speaker 3 (01:39:07):
Me of the All Star Game.
Speaker 4 (01:39:11):
I don't mind the lesser known guys in the competition
skills and stuff like that, because it does give those
guys a chance. That probably, and especially nowadays where the
game's not even really marketed, we're more storylines and individual
players and narratives and what ifs. I think it's more
marketed than the actual games. Then we don't get a
(01:39:32):
chance to see a guy in the skill. I just
think this, like, I think some of the competitions can
get better as the guy just trites to do a
back off the glass to help Stefan Castle and he
makes the shot.
Speaker 3 (01:39:43):
Nobody, that's not what you're supposed to do.
Speaker 4 (01:39:45):
Also, too, I think you got to take people off
the floor if you can't do the dunk by yourself,
if you got to jump over a guy, fine, but
someone else throwing you the ball, I think they I
think they should eliminate that. But I don't mind some
of the lesser known guys getting a shot and getting
a chance to be seen by the by the rest.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
Of the world. Time for that is the Rising Stars game.
Speaker 4 (01:40:06):
That's what literally, that's played star that's just played at
the bad words Tyson Friday, I forgot, I God, I haven't.
What's the last Rising Stars game that you guys have watched.
Speaker 3 (01:40:15):
I've never even seen it?
Speaker 8 (01:40:16):
Okay, I like playing it in two k Okay in
my player, you make the Rising Stars show.
Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
Exactly seen it.
Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
I do I do my player in two K, I
do my player in every sports game. I was always
do my player martin last Rising Stars game.
Speaker 3 (01:40:31):
You watched, oh, before I was in college.
Speaker 2 (01:40:34):
I don't know, two thousand dial up internet probably it
was around the time, all right, So it's like, it's
Brandon Knight. When Brandon Knight made DeAndre Jordan fall, and
then Brandon Knight ended up getting dunked on later that
game by Andre Drummond. I believe, I may I may
(01:40:54):
be even confusing your memories, but Brandon Knight had a
moment he came down.
Speaker 4 (01:40:58):
You're thinking of DeAndre Jordan dunking on him when DeAndre
Jon was a Clipper. When Brandon Knight got slammed like
he that was in the Rising Stars night. That was
in a regular game. That was a Pistons game from
Brandon Knight. Yeah, when Brandon Night got dunked on by
DeAndre Jordan and he landed like like sideways. Most time
guys like fall at an angle. He got dunked on
(01:41:18):
and landed. That's DeAndre Jordan. You know what, I'm dunking
on Brandon Night and it's just made him fall. That's
what it was. I had the time he mixed up.
Speaker 2 (01:41:28):
I had agree Kyrie made him fall in the Rising
Stars game, so that would have been I'm ten.
Speaker 4 (01:41:35):
Years outside of a Rising Stars. It's like I said,
it's Friday night. No one it's it's it's a bad night.
I always thought, I just remember when everything was on
Saturday night, and that's just it's everything was on Saturday night.
They had it all on Saturday night, and then they
all start game on Sunday, and that was it. You
got the Celebrity game, you got the Rising Stars game.
It's just it's it's on.
Speaker 3 (01:41:54):
A bad night.
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
Man. No, no one is watching TV on Friday night,
and there's no more tea gif anymore. There's no more
family matters and you know those shows on back in
the day on Friday night. So yeah, it's I don't mind,
you gotta you gotta showcase in some way, somehow, I feel.
Speaker 5 (01:42:10):
Like Maximo and this dude jumped over a shock yes
last year, like fully jumped over shot.
Speaker 4 (01:42:15):
Yeah you jumped over shot the car. Listen listen him
jumping over the car tonight. The dude clears the car.
He doesn't use his hands, he doesn't lift off a
guy like we've seen guys in dunk contests jump over
people put their hands on them. To me, you lose
points on that because you're getting an assistance to get
that little lyft. I gotta see straight hops. Vince had
(01:42:36):
straight bunnies, spud Web had bunnies, Jordan can fly, Kobe
had bunnies, Tracy had That.
Speaker 3 (01:42:44):
Was the first year they started.
Speaker 4 (01:42:45):
They would pause on the replay and show you the vertical,
and that's when you were seeing guys forty six, forty seven,
forty five. That's that's a crazy vertical those days, those
days are going right there, Come on.
Speaker 3 (01:42:57):
Come on now. And he doesn't touch the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:42:59):
He is literally jumping over people and jumping over cars
without using his hands.
Speaker 3 (01:43:04):
I can't do nothing but salute the kid. I can't.
Speaker 6 (01:43:07):
I know more.
Speaker 4 (01:43:07):
I won't adopt this kid no more. Look at you,
I mean, just look at the reaction everybody that's there.
I mean, when you say you won't doubt him anymore,
doubt him in what regard? Oh, when the first saw him,
I thought no way. Like my first year two years ago,
when he first came in, I'm like, they got a
G league kid in here.
Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
Who you mean in the contest, you won't doubt him,
is what you're saying. Yeah, I've never seen a see
that replay. I've I've never seen him play a game.
I'm not gonna out like I have. Oh I didn't
know those two balls, dude, I didn't see that the
first time. I didn't know.
Speaker 5 (01:43:34):
I think as his brother, his friend spinning on a hoverboard.
Speaker 3 (01:43:37):
Yeah, that's just it. That's just crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:43:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:43:40):
I mean when I first saw him, know, I'm like,
who's this kid? And this kid ain't about to do nothing?
And then he was the first and then last year,
I ain't about to win back to back, and then
he wins it again. So every time he's in it,
that's who my money's on until he loses one.
Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
About the six, I haven't bet on mac McClung since
he was a Texas Tech red Raider.
Speaker 3 (01:43:58):
They know he played there, good little I don't you
know he played there Texas tecond.
Speaker 4 (01:44:04):
First time I heard of the kid is when they
said there's gonna be we're gonna choose one G league
guy to come do to Duncan.
Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
He's a really good college player, saying Matt McClung, it
was a bucket in college. He just was the type
of bucket in college that you can see is not
going to be a bucket in the pro.
Speaker 5 (01:44:18):
I just feels like he shows his ass every single time,
like why not just why is he.
Speaker 3 (01:44:23):
A g leaguer?
Speaker 4 (01:44:24):
Because you got to do more than dunkin basketball. You
gotta you gotta have game. Also see and Clung added
some artwork to his arms. Yeah, he finished year two
and three, finished strong term. And there's in, there's in,
there's and there's also to there's politics that go and
there's only certain amount of spots Mary in the NBA,
there's only a certain amount of roster spots everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:44:43):
There's a bunch of guys in the gle that can
play right.
Speaker 4 (01:44:46):
But you know there there's You build relationships with different coaches,
you build relationships with different gms, and you get somewhere.
You're a free agent. Sometimes they sign you just to
put you on the Trisian Thompson. Isn't he on somebody's here?
Isn't he on the Cavs again?
Speaker 1 (01:44:58):
Or something?
Speaker 3 (01:44:59):
A lot of but he was there on those years
with Lebron.
Speaker 4 (01:45:02):
He could always call back to them and say, hey,
look need little help with this cheld support.
Speaker 3 (01:45:05):
I got going on, can I get it? Can I
get it?
Speaker 6 (01:45:08):
Ended?
Speaker 3 (01:45:08):
The bitch ross?
Speaker 5 (01:45:09):
Nobody even knows him for real, except for like the
Kardashian stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:45:12):
No no, no, no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no no. I can't.
I can't let you do that cause I didn't know
him until he times.
Speaker 2 (01:45:21):
A lot of our audience was is older than twenty
one right now, so they have knowledge of when Tristan Towns,
when Tristan Thompson was winning championships and playing starting an
NBA finals games.
Speaker 3 (01:45:32):
I get it if you.
Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
Just popped in three years ago, you remember like the
fallout from the Kardashian trifting at ESPN And now I
actually just got in a fight a couple of days
ago in Toronto after dunk King and his last game
to CAP.
Speaker 3 (01:45:46):
And then he tweeted afterwards a double this is his city,
right as his city. Now, I know that that's a lot,
but ten years ago, trifted Thompson. Let me tell you something.
It was.
Speaker 4 (01:45:57):
It was It was a board he get on the
boards for you. But even back to college, he was
I believe all all big twelve player at Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:46:04):
If I'm not mistaken, no, Tristan.
Speaker 4 (01:46:06):
Used to be a ball and see that's what happens
when generations coming. It's not your fault. You can't help
when you're born, but you're coming in on the back end.
It's like kids today they see Charles Barkley and what
you guys don't know is that Dream Team that everybody
talks about. He's the second best player in that team
of Michael Jordan. Like he won an MVP, his team
won sixty something games. He just couldn't be Michael Jordan
in the finals, like Barkley was a dog. But the
(01:46:28):
Barkley you know, the only Charles Barkley you know is
the guy sitting on TV.
Speaker 5 (01:46:32):
Actually I know him because he used to be for Shack.
That's how the start. Well, no, but from from like
the basketball and their moms calling each other and stuff
like that.
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
That you learned. You learned that from watching them, say and.
Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
T shir s mac McClung is doing something with Evan
Mobley and a stand and I'm gonna let Steve the
saga update the rest Steve.
Speaker 7 (01:46:54):
And Charles Barkley was actually the leading scorer on the
Dream Team.
Speaker 4 (01:46:57):
There you go, yes, yes, yes, he was absolutely you know,
sixteen riight they sixteen points.
Speaker 7 (01:47:03):
I think it was eighteen points eighteen minutes again because
I remember nobody was playing full minutes.
Speaker 4 (01:47:07):
Yeah, and I'm sorry, but remember, what do you know
about Angola? I don't know much about him except four
day in a lot of trouble and he beat him
by like eighty or something crazy like that.
Speaker 7 (01:47:16):
I think that was also the team where one of
their subs got to get in the game at the
end and from the court while he's playing defense, he
yells at his buddy and says, take a picture.
Speaker 3 (01:47:26):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:47:26):
N mac mclung just had his final dunk of the
Slam Dunk Contest. If it's another fifty, it would be
four for four in that category and it would give
him the title again. He is the two time defending champ.
McClung plays in the G League. He just on the
previous round had the best dunk of the night. We'll
see what the scores come up for this. This ends
(01:47:48):
All Star Saturday Night in San Francisco. Earlier, the three
point contest went to the Heats Tyler Hero. Two time
defending champ Damian Lillard was eliminated in the first round.
The skills challenged to Cleveland, beating host Golden State in
the final. The All Star Game is Sunday night in
San Francisco, and it is now a fourteen mini tournament.
Each team tomorrow night will have eight players in college basketball.
(01:48:11):
The late game underway at Utah, You's ahead of number
seventeen Kansas twenty two to seventeen mid first half, Number
one Auburn a winner at number two ranked Alabama ninety four,
eighty five victories in the top twenty for Florida and
duke for Texas, A and M and Iowa State at
fifth rank Tennessee. The Balls came back to beat Vanderbilt
eighty one seventy six and number six Houston won at
(01:48:32):
thirteenth ranked Arizona sixty two fifty eight, while seventh rank
Perdue was beaten at home by sixteenth ranked Wisconsin ninety
four to eighty four. At Hockey's Four Nations Face Off,
the US, down one nothing early, is leading against Canada
in Montreal two to one with about twelve minutes left
in regulation of this round robin event. Finland today won
(01:48:53):
in overtime against Sweden for three. The Dodgers full squad
workouts at spring training started today Cubs yesterday, Hey, Dodgers
and Cubs will open the regular season in March in Tokyo.
A reminder, Sunday's Daytona five hundred TV coverage will start
an hour early due to the bad weather forecast there.
The race is due to begin at two pm Eastern
Time on Fox TV. And it looks like he has
(01:49:15):
won it again. Mac McClung, for the third straight year,
takes the NBA Slam Dunk Contest and it did look
like a perfect score again in this round, four dunks,
four perfect scores of fifty from the five judges.
Speaker 3 (01:49:30):
Back to you.
Speaker 2 (01:49:31):
So the kid gets one hundred percent. No notes, right,
has never made a single Everything was perfect, just nasty year.
Speaker 7 (01:49:39):
Well it wasn't actually, but he got four perfect scores.
Speaker 3 (01:49:43):
That is accurate. We wonder what's wrong with this? I mean,
what are you guys have the problem with the dunks?
Are the scores? Exceptually every dunk can't be perfect.
Speaker 7 (01:49:54):
Well, if you hit your foot on the car that
you're attempting to leap over, that was a very impress
If dunk it wasn't perfect, perfect would be you don't
fall on the landing because you hit your foot on
the car you're supposed to jump over. Yeah, he was
very impressive in the last two dunks he earned. He
earned the trophy.
Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
Yeah, I mean, you know, leaping over a seven footer
without putting his hands Like I said, we've seen Nate
Robinson did it and people went crazy and I crept
all over him, like dude, this is not a big
choosing one hand to lift off of the guy. Like,
that's not jumping over somebody.
Speaker 3 (01:50:30):
This guy.
Speaker 4 (01:50:31):
I just watched this man just go leap over someone
touched the ball at the rim and then dunk the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:50:37):
It was very impressive. Yeah, I just like I said,
I just leaping.
Speaker 7 (01:50:40):
Over shack er. You know crops that have been used
to right. But then again, this isn't a very tall guy.
Speaker 2 (01:50:46):
Magmcluk No, I'll tell you I had hand up. Bad
job by me as a sports talk radio host. The
Four Nations face off did not hit my radar until
about a week and a.
Speaker 7 (01:50:59):
Half ago, and I'm just taking place for the NHL
All start taking place in the NFL NHL All Star Game.
Speaker 3 (01:51:07):
After this, I can't tell.
Speaker 10 (01:51:08):
You what the NFL All Star Game looked like last year,
year before, year before, that are literally ever in history.
But I noticed today on February fifteenth, at ten thirty Eastern,
give me the four nation's face off over this slam
dunk foolishness. These guys out here fighting, these guys out
here hitting, they're playing reality.
Speaker 7 (01:51:27):
It's to your point earlier, this is best against best
on the ice. We're not seeing all of the NBA's
best tonight. As entertaining as this may be.
Speaker 3 (01:51:35):
We don't get to see rising stars Canada play.
Speaker 7 (01:51:40):
Team Chris Mullen tomorrow night is in the All Star Game.
Speaker 4 (01:51:43):
Let me ask you questions, Steve, What why? How we
gotten here to where? Like you said, we're watching this
hockey game.
Speaker 7 (01:51:49):
People getting paid fight and they care less. If people
stop getting paid, they start to care.
Speaker 3 (01:51:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:51:57):
I always always felt guaranteed contracts in the NBA, And
when I was a barber back in Virginia twenty years
I used to say this stuff during barber tals. I
used to tell people, man, it's gonna be the death
of his league if you if you're guaranteeing someone their
money and they don't have to improve, right.
Speaker 7 (01:52:10):
But it's even worse when people can engineer a buyout
still get the money right, and then pick the next.
Speaker 4 (01:52:15):
And then picked their next year, and they even get
another contract right, another absorbent contract. But I just always
felt with the NBA guaranteed contract like guarantee, but where's
the You gotta be cut a certain way to want
to be better, right, to want to be great, because
if you know you're getting your money like right now,
like you're there, in my opinion, best update guy in
his business. But if you knew you could miss four
straight days and your check and your check would still
(01:52:38):
be there, right.
Speaker 3 (01:52:38):
Would you? You'd probably take those four days.
Speaker 4 (01:52:41):
From time to time. But it doesn't make you you're
not improving.
Speaker 7 (01:52:44):
It's like when Magic Johnson came into the league and
he was already a champion in his first year at
an all start pretty much every year and he kept
working on his game every year. Yeah, yeah, I will
say there's one added aspect that the NHL has hit
on that makes this a great event for this next
well few days until the Thursday final of this round
robin event. It's national teams. It's best against best, and
(01:53:07):
there's a national fervor that brings out the best in
sports in general. I mean, the World Cup is a
superb event, and that's one of the reasons people that
don't watch a lot of soccer for twelve months will
watch what they get from the World Cup. What we
saw a year ago with the World Baseball Classic was sensation.
I mean, the stadiums, including in Miami, we're I mean
(01:53:31):
and Arizona also, we're just packed and at a fever
pitch and the games were.
Speaker 4 (01:53:36):
Great and comes down to who most people consider the time,
the league's best pitcher against the league's best hitter. Yeah right,
that's the best, best against best. And that's what I
think we're missing. And it's been like this for it
for a while.
Speaker 7 (01:53:51):
So even if they do internationals NBA against Americans NBA
and that kind of all star matchup, which has been
talked to, it's at least on the path to that.
Speaker 3 (01:54:00):
It's not quite like I'd watch that.
Speaker 4 (01:54:02):
Yeah, watch, I'd watch now next if Dan els you
know what, we're going international versus USA, like the USA
versus the world NBA. So I'm all, Ki, yeah, yeah,
I'm all this, can't pick your team if you're international,
I mean, if you're domestic.
Speaker 3 (01:54:16):
This is where Yeah, I like that.
Speaker 7 (01:54:17):
Even golf with the Ryder Cup gets good attention Dan
with what's normally not.
Speaker 2 (01:54:23):
That kind of crowd. Honestly, I don't do this for
a lot of things in the NBA. I blame Lebron
for the All Star Game. I really do. I think
that when you are the best player in the league
for so long, you have an obligation to be a
steward of the league. The idea that he's never under
dunk contest, to me, is laughable. As a guy who
(01:54:46):
has been the face of the league for the longest time,
the idea that he's in the all his All Star
career has a drinking It's twenty one All Star appearances
in a row. He should have been the guy leading
the charge for this about eight nine years ago and
we wouldn't be where we are.
Speaker 7 (01:55:00):
Well when he came into the league, recall that he
said what he wants to be is a global icon
that's been accomplished. Sure, what you're asking for was somewhere
on the list, but it wasn't at the top.
Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
Coming up next, we will do a quick look into
San Francisco, but the football side of things, and of
course by this time next week, shortly after the show
hour podcast, we'll go up if you missed any of
today's show, be sure to check out there podcast this
search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get any of your
podcast might and be sure to follow, rate and review
the podcast.
Speaker 3 (01:55:30):
Again.
Speaker 2 (01:55:30):
Just search Fox Sports Radio where you get yours podcasts,
and you'll see this show posted right after we get
off the air. Comeing to your life at the Tireck
dot com studios, keeping the seats warm for Aaron Torres
and Jason Martin. Coming up next, It's Martin Weiss and
VJ Husky VJA.
Speaker 3 (01:55:47):
Real quick.
Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
I know we will do this time next week in
about two minutes, but I want to take thirty seconds
here and spend some time on Aaron Rodgers, who is
not going to be a New York Jet upcoming.
Speaker 3 (01:55:58):
There was one team that kind of jump out in
the odds.
Speaker 2 (01:56:01):
The third favorite right now, the San Francisco forty nine ers.
Quick question, You're Kyle Shanahan, Jed York, John Lynching the
powers that be? Would you be all in on Aaron
Rodgers for the next two seasons? Are all in on
Brock Party for the next five at a Dak Prescott,
(01:56:22):
Trevor Lawrence level contract.
Speaker 4 (01:56:24):
Brock Perty for five at that level contract simply because
if you go in on Rogers, all right, cool, next
two years. I don't think they're gonna look much better
than what they looked in in MetLife. So now when
he's gone, what do you do? Because Brock's not gonna
stick around. Brock's gonna leave because you can't give him
a half ass contract.
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
I won't take it. I'm always a free agency. I'm out.
Speaker 4 (01:56:48):
If you want this guy to come in and no,
you gotta have some type of some type of gray
foods man down just like, Hey, I'm the guy here.
Speaker 3 (01:56:54):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:56:54):
You guys want to bring this old ass in and
sit me aside, no pay me. So if i'm them, yeah,
it might be a fun little conversation. He's from the area.
Aaron Rodgers is a Cali guy who went to cal He's.
Speaker 3 (01:57:06):
From the area.
Speaker 4 (01:57:07):
I you know, but go with you know, go what
you have move on with Deebo, which I spoke about
earlier this year during the season. I told you guy
to look out for that story. Look out for them
thinking about making some moves with Debo. They've given him
granted to secret trade. They're looking for trade. Told his
agent's starting to move some things around there bringing Aaron
Rodgers in guys to this team. No, I brock Pertty
is your guy. You gotta pay the quarterbacks guys. Not
(01:57:29):
saying he gets Dak sixty million, but it was the
same thing I was saying about tour right. I didn't
think toour should have been the highest paid guy or
the second, the third highest paid guy. I like that
about fifty one fifty three million. Do keep it in
the forties. No one's getting paid in the forties. It's
gotta be like fifty three enough. I think Brocket fifty
two fifty three. I think he can get a good
deal done. They're fifty four probably at the top. But
(01:57:50):
he's not getting sixty I'm not paying brock pretty sixty million.
He's not that guy. He doesn't deserve top money. I
think he's smart enough in his agent's smart enough too.
And if anybody's gonna give that money, it's fifty I'm
talking about. It's gonna be the nine. There's no other team.
I don't think I'll do it, so they'd be better
suit it five years.
Speaker 3 (01:58:04):
Brock perky.
Speaker 2 (01:58:05):
If i'm them, sign me up for seventeen games, Aaron Rodgers,
it gets me out of having to pay brock Purty
big money. Look at the other teams that have paid
their big money quarterback big money. They're sitting at home
like except for the Lions, who again had a stacked
roster right and then had to deal with those injuries.
But Cowboys, it's home, Miami, home like. But either way,
(01:58:29):
it's time now for By this time next week, go ahead, VJ.
Speaker 4 (01:58:33):
By this time next week, the Dolphins will be rumored
to be signing to make a move for a receiver.
A couple of names I got in my mind. I'll
keep to myself. But then talking about also moving on
from Tyreek Hill. You saw him have to do his
apology tour during Super Bowl Week. Didn't like it. I
love Riek, everybody knows that. But you shouldn't have just
said what you said at Homie. Now that do you
want to apologize for it? I think they need to
move on point, get that money, get some other pieces
(01:58:54):
for the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (01:58:55):
By this time next week, the New Orleans Saints will
finally have finished their coach. It was told that our
coaching staff finalists will finally be finalized.
Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
Took forever.
Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
Mickey loom Is saying the reason why it took so
long to hire a head coach is because the Eagles
kept winning.
Speaker 3 (01:59:10):
HM.
Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
That doesn't drive with Cliffs Kingsbury or Mike McCarthy, but
neither way either. Here though, the Eagles, I mean this
Eagles former offensive coordinator will be done hiring a staff.
Speaker 3 (01:59:18):
That team's gonna stink.
Speaker 4 (01:59:20):
By this time next week, we will be hearing people
trying to decide whether you should sign Aaron Rodgers or
Sam Darnald.
Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
Oh, I think that's you might hear that by Monday
of next week. Absolutely, And just for the record, my
answer would be Sam Darnald. But they're gonna see by
this time next week, Aaron Rodgers essentially verse every single
starting quarterback that's up for drabs, and you'll see somebody
convince themselves that it'll work. It'll work in Indie, it'll
work in Vegas, It'll work here, work there. Somebody will
(01:59:50):
convince themselves of it happening.
Speaker 4 (01:59:52):
By this time next week, we will start to fall
out of the love fence with this Luca move. I
think that this thing is gonna go south a little bit.
Lucas still looks oude of shape. I know people think, oh,
he's got Andrew and he can get back in it.
But I think the love affairs over that.
Speaker 2 (02:00:04):
Mark williamstraight getting rescinded really really changed.
Speaker 3 (02:00:07):
God bless everybody, have a great weekend. They starting up
next
