Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. Greetings and welcome in another
beautiful Fox Sports Sunday, normally a day of redemption, hope
and rebirth. Today a Sinner is on top. Welcome in
Mike Carbon alongside Dan Byer as we get ready for
another big day in the sporting universe. Finally, the NBA
(00:21):
Finals resume Game two. We'll get into that in a
few minutes. We've got Roland Garros the final Sinner and
Alcarez getting after it. We've got the Nation's League Final
later between Spain and Portugal. A full day of Major
League Baseball where my surging White Sox might get to
within twenty yeah, twenty games of five hundred. Welcome in
(00:44):
at Dan Byro on Fox where you find and find
me over at Swollen Dome. Another big week ahead for
US DAN. Some stories that we thought would linger and
become B and C block items for people to be
lazy about all summer long have been vanquished in our
sporting verse. So back to the drawing board for a
lot of radio and TV producers.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
And we have a taste test like no other coming
up with the Potato Chip Showdown. It's a Pringles Showdown today,
Beer canned chicken versus beer braised steak flavored Pringles. I
saw these in the line at the store yesterday and
I immediately test texted Mike Harmon and said, we have
(01:28):
to have a showdown, so we will have a breakdown
of who wins what in the better tasting limited edition
Pringles chip that you can find at your local grocer.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Now, does this officially mean we've left no stone unturned
in the great chip expansion?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
There have been some wacky chips that we have seen
throughout the few summers that this has become a thing.
The beer caned chicken Pringle. By the way, this is
Miller Lite as well, so they've got to handle this.
The beer can chicken one did not surprise me. It's
the beer braced steak that caught me off guard, which
(02:08):
reeled me in to be like, all right, we need
a showdown chicken or steak just like a wedding. Right,
you're gonna have the chicken, steak or fish? What are
you gonna have? We have it with our Pringles showdown today.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Look at that you're looking to get that third option
it Now, if we start getting fish flavored chips, I
mean I know, I know there are like d you know,
dehydrated flaky what Yeah, I mean you can buy that directly,
but if we get it in you know here where
we've got a beer company and pringles because anytime I
see that logo with the mustache, it's glorious. Uh wishing
(02:39):
I could grow one quite so thick and lustrous.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
And here's the update. Mike is producer. Shay is the
only one who knows which chip is which in our
plate and I've put this up on X it is
at dan Byer on Fox. Shay has yet to even
take his own test because we had to set one
aside for him. The chips look very similar, Shae, wouldn't
you say that they're Yeah, they're pretty identical. Yes, yes,
(03:04):
So only Shane knows which one is Chip one and
which one is Chip two. Chris Purfett is actually mulling
over the chips right now, so we may have an
early entry into our voting block.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Well after you see. It's certainly up for great debate.
That's always the questioning, the seasoning, like is there something
that that tips you off? Because obviously the shape size
of a pringle, it's the one thing you can always
say it is uniform. It's not like the normal bag
of chips, like I'm gonna go and I'm gonna I'm gonna,
you know, have my cheese dip or whatever I got
going on. It's like, Yeah, that one's broken, that one's broken,
(03:38):
that one's hit a third. Now I've got crumbs. Do
I just pour the crumbs into the bowl and just
mix it up.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I'll tell you what. When you get that rollout though,
of about fifteen all in one nice tight row, there's
nothing better to pluck. To pluck. They fit perfectly on
your tongue as well, if you want to do it
that way. It's magnificent. I don't know Prigginson design, yeah,
and I don't know if Pringle's got their design via
the Mike Brady poster tubes that he took at the
(04:06):
the Cincinnati Fair that got lost because Jan messed it
up for a Yogi Bear poster. But the Pringles can
is one of a kind.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
It's a good look at Yogi bear posts. Yeah though,
because that probably has some value in the secondary market.
Definitely original print.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Here are your architectural plans and the whole reason why
why we are in Cincinnati, and Dad, can I have
the poster for the Yogi Bear poster that I just
won for two dollars. Back then it was probably fifty cents.
Point being, I don't think it's an even trade, but
we'll find out who wins today in our pringles showdown two.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Probably costs more than the poster at that point. All right,
So Center over Alcarez six four seven, six down. Now
Alcarez three to one in the third. We'll keep an
eye on that. It's been entertaining. It looked like it
was going to be a walkover in the second set.
Alcarez battled back, ultimately losing the tie breaker. But you know,
whenever we get some championship work on whatever surf nan
(05:00):
starting a Sunday we've won.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Not to draw parallels to the NBA finals, but some
have wondered, is this the start of something for Oklahoma City.
I think that we look at Center and Alcarez and
say that this is the future of men's tennis, and
it's who's going to join that group. We had the
the the trio of Federer Nadal in Djokovic, Federer starting out,
then Nadal coming on board, and Djokovic just a little
(05:25):
bit later to make their big three and Djokovic ultimately
winning more than that, either Federer or Nadal. But now
the question will be will there be a third? Will
it just be these two maybe for years to come
to battle. But that's where we are right now in
men's as.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Long as we have a legitimate battle where it's back
and forth, as opposed to I'm propped up. I'm going
back to the Tiger Woods thing of sure, all right,
who's his guy? It's like, no, he really wasn't, but
we by default Phil had to play that role, and
he played it well. He played the villain really well,
and and he won some tournaments, and he captivated us
(06:00):
with his willingness to gamble like everybody does at their
Muni course every weekend. Like although for us it would
be just playing Dan, for him was a gamble sure.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
And you know, and even that, it's funny because you
have like Jack and Arnie, but you look throughout Jack's
career and the rivalries that he had because Gary Player
was introduced in it, and Jack's career was just I mean, it's,
you know, arguably next to Tiger Woods, the best that
you've ever got, or even maybe better than Tiger's depending
on where you come on the argument. But yeah, Jack
kind of left everybody of the dust, but he was
(06:31):
in that group. Then Tom Watson comes along and wins
a bunch. So we'll have to see what happens with
tennis here. But right now in the men's game, it's
it's Center and Alcoraz and seemingly everybody else.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Next level stuff. On an early Sunday morning here West Coast, Tom,
thanks for taking some time to be with us. However
you're getting about on a day East Coast, You're already
well into your day. Brunch is probably over. You're probably
at a kid's soccer, softball, little league game, maybe a
graduation party. Congratulate relations to those finishing off the job
(07:01):
this week. I know that's happening all across the Southland
here in the South Bay by us, so it's the hey,
there's no parking here here here, and here people starting
to rent out spaces in their driveways, all of those
kind of hey, man, make your dollars where you can
make them. But later on you alluded to the NBA Finals,
(07:22):
and we have to see how we could top this.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
The thing I'm most watching for tonight is what happens
in the final six minutes of this game, where I
believe at some point Oklahoma City will have a lead.
And we saw it in the Bucks series, we saw
it in the Cavs series, we saw it in the
Knick series. Do the Pacers have that ability to come
(07:49):
back from a deficit and do what they did so
the previous three teams? Is Oklahoma City immune to that?
And it's not that I'm going to tune in at
the six minute mark of the game, but it's just
the fact of does this magical run continue for the
Indiana Pacers? Buye what it?
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Dan Byer with Doug Gottlieb talking ahead of Game one
on Thursday and wondering aloud if we saw history repeating itself,
and the answer was yes. Fifteen point lead dissipates once
again Indiana because of the depth of their three point
shooting turnovers, they figured out how to handle the ball. Okay,
(08:29):
see didn't take advantage of what was it depending on
your box score? It was either eighteen, nineteen or twenty
first half turnovers that you converted into nine points. Transition
defense hues huge, But in the fourth quarter three point
shooting and that guy Haliburton.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yes, and with Haliburton's buzzer beater. But you had Nie Smith,
who was so big in the KNICKT series. He actually
had the three. The lead that we talked about is
the lead of nine by the Thunder with under three
minutes to go. Oh Mike and Nie Smith, you know,
ends up hitting a three nemhard with a bucket as well.
(09:07):
And the reason why I said that it's not that
it's I don't think it's I don't think it was
a huge stretch, but it's what could make this series.
And we've seen it in other series as well. But
for the Pacers, it's completely taken the life out of
their previous two opponents. When they came back against the Bucks,
the series is probably over anyway, once Damian Lillard went out, sure,
(09:28):
and even though if Milwaukee would have won that Game five,
they probably weren't gonna win the series. But Indiana comes
back and then ends up closing it out with a
great comeback against Milwaukee and winning that Game five and
winning that series. But it sure seemed to take the
the air out of the Calves. I know the Calves
went in one Game three in Indiana still, but to
win the first two games in Cleveland like the Pacers did,
(09:51):
and to have the comeback like they had, that's a
big deal. And then that happened to the Knicks. What
it does is it changes it's to use another tennis peril. Well,
it's breaking serve, right, and so when you have those
comebacks like you have, it's even more than breaking serve.
It almost feels like you're breaking their back. And for
Oklahoma City, who has just as many questions coming into
(10:13):
the NBA Finals as the Pacers do, now you kind
of start to question yourself. It happened to the Thunder.
The Thunder can at least say that the Nuggets did
this to us. We came back and won that series
in seven games, so there may be some history there.
But if Oklahoma City would have put the clamps on
the Pacers in Game one, I think we're thinking it's
a walk over for OKC and instead I think a
(10:35):
lot of people are now siding on the side of uh,
this is the PACER's destiny. And that's why I think
that those final six minutes and leading into the game
were so important because I felt it shaped the rest
of the series and now we have an idea of
what these next possibly six games could be.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Well to tie it back to our tennis world, right,
it was a soul snatching shot from Tyrese Haliburton. Yes,
so you just see it again. And we've talked a
lot about him over the course of this playoff run
and him going in coming out of the regular season
for the Pacers. It's a nice emblematic mark once again
(11:13):
of how the regular season doesn't tell you a whole ton, right,
and and how you're playing through the regular season right,
middling in the playoff seeding but best record other than
the Thunder since January first, playing good basketball. But you
don't need to kill yourself. Here's where you tinker, figure
(11:33):
out your rotations. How deep do you go? And one
thing that the Pacers do have is you have a number.
And we talk with Rick Buker Smith and I did
during the week, is like you go one through their
starting lineup and into their bench. You've got guys where
their floor is hitting about thirty three percent of their
three point shots. That includes Miles Turner, that includes all
the bigs that are stepping out, Pascal Siakam, who is
(11:55):
not a surprise. Okay, everybody kept making it like, oh,
there he is like he was new leading scorer, right
for all the headlines and everything. And Halliburton's a fantastic player.
You know, when we go just to the brass tacks
of scoring, when Siakam explodes for a thirty point game,
it's it's should not be that unforeseen, right. It's a
(12:16):
guy that can fill up the basket. We've seen it
through years. But going through just the way the games
sets out, right, lou Dord had his five to three
point shots. Check can step out and hit Jay Gildess.
Alexander is more at the free throw line in mid range.
They don't have a lot of three point shooters, so
if you want to play that game, you're gonna play
(12:36):
with fire when it comes to Indiana, but they're deep.
The transition defense was great now I know by all
the metrics going back to the regular seasons said they're
not a great defensive team. Well, they don't have to
be in the regular season. You play a lot of
bad teams if you can play good defense here and
how much you know there was a lid on the basket.
We could talk about that for the thunder or suddenly
(12:58):
no shots are falling the fourth quarter to try to
stave off that push. Does that balance out here in
game two? Maybe? Maybe not? Are they better in transition
off of turnovers if they can get Indiana to play
recklessly like they did in the first half. Now, for me,
it's delicious theater watching it. A guy like Obi toppin
(13:19):
because I had to listen to about him for years. Again,
my co host during the week, big Knicks fan, So
seeing Obi top and stepping out and hitting three after
three are like little stabs into his sport, psyche poking
the bear as it were. But once again, the betting
market said what it did before the series. It was
(13:40):
a minus seven hundred, got down into the minus four
to seventy five minus five hundred range, and for today
the thunder uner eleven point favorite.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Didn't change anything from Game one least. But that's Las Vegas, right.
I expect the Pacers to play a great game tonight. Again.
I don't think that they felt that they got lucky
in Game one. I felt that they probably feel that
that's what they they do. I think your point about
the defense is correct because and I've been critical of
(14:12):
Indiana's defense, but if you are going to be a
lockdown defense, you really can't play offense the way that
they play offense, But I will give them credit defensively
in the times where they have needed stops, they have
gotten stops. I think the last time we talked, maybe
it was two weeks ago, just talking about the possession
that Andrew Nemhard had, Jalen Brunson just completely frustrated that
(14:37):
he was, I think in Game six of the series
where it may have been the only possession during the
game where he thought someone was one ten percent playing
defense in a Pacers uniform. But it's sure as heck
got the crowd going and feeling it and gave them momentum.
And look at what happens even on the last shot
by Shay Gilis Alexander that doesn't go down the breakdow
(15:00):
of that play defensively, of what the Pacers have done
in getting at least some help off of Alex Caruso
in the corner, and I believe it may have been
Siakam at that point where instead of Shay Gildas Alexander
getting a six or seven footer or nine footer, he
kind of has to settle for about a thirteen to
fifteen footer at that point and it's just the little things,
(15:21):
and it's if you get those defensive stops on those possessions,
you don't have to play great defense the entire game.
But you're right about the Pacers and maybe not getting
the recognition they deserve on defense because they're not going
to lock you down. They're not going to turn you over.
Oklahoma City only had seven turnovers. They take care of
the ball pretty well, but it's the points where you
(15:43):
need it. They seem to have come through defensively, and
it happened at the end of Game one and getting
the stop that allowed Tyres Haliburton to become the hero.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Well, it's curious, right, because this is another game whereby
the Thunder control for the vast majority, right, you know,
figure out what you want on your clock. But they
only lead for three point three seconds when it's all
said on Indiana. But go back to that Denver series.
If you went minute by minute and you were scoring
it like a boxing match, Oklahoma City pounded them.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Yet we have a seven game series and now we
have a team in Indiana that we watched time and again.
It's like they're pacing, like all right, we're in range.
We didn't get because they should have been down what
twenty five points the way they played the first Yes, right,
everything was wrong except for the rebounding metric because they
took care of the glass very well over the course
of the night, giving themselves second chance points. Obviously seven
(16:36):
more three point makes than the thunder had gone down
that line. But they never the game never got away,
especially when you've got five guys on the floor that
can step back and hit a three, So it changes
how okay see has to defend and the extra pass
like if you want to go into clinics of basketball, right,
the old Gene Hackman Hoosiers, I need five passes, man,
(16:58):
this is the team that semble.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Yes, I'll say this if you're the Pacers tonight again,
what'd you say it was ten and a half or.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
A half or eleven?
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah, Indiana's lost two road games these playoffs, So why
would you think that all of a sudden they're gonna
fall apart, especially after two series where they've won both
games in Cleveland, won both games in New York. I'll
tell you another thing that's interesting, just to kind of
put a bow on it. I don't think there's a connection,
(17:29):
but I do find it interesting that these two participants
make up fifty percent of the finals that we've seen
in the NBA Cup. So the I I, you know,
I appreciate that. I appreciate your courtesy. Yeah, because I
think a lot of people roll their eyes like with it.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Well, no, but I wouldn't have thought about it. Yeah,
it is. It's a data points like okay, they I'd
have to look at it, but.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yeah, Pacers made the finals last year, they lost to
the Lakers, and the Thunder lost to the Bucks this year,
and so maybe just maybe like in those situations or
bracket situations, there may be a little something to it.
Maybe the NBA Cup is telling us a little something
that we didn't realize now with Milwaukee and the Lakers,
not the best data to support it. But I do
(18:15):
think Oklahoma City and specifically the Pacers aspect of it.
Because Oklahoma City great throughout the season. They should be
making a run to the NBA Cup. But maybe there
is something to it in playing those games in important
situations that have maybe helped both of these teams get
to this point.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
We need to send that on official Dan Bayern letters
head to the NBA. This is how you sell the
NBA Cup. It's a predictor of what we're gonna see
later on. I just I would have had no idea, like,
I know the Lakers, what right, because it's such a
big deal. But I was like if you asked if
you put a stack of bills in front of me
for this year, I had no idea, correct, because it
(18:52):
wasn't a big deal around here. Well, right, like when
it starts to pervade our rooms, whether it's making fun
of hey, you're gonna hang another banner, yay, you know
Laker kind of thing, correct, right, because we've got a
lot of Laker fans here, it becomes a think when
it's not, it kind of is just another day, yes,
right in the count.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
And for Bucks fans right now, it's the only thing
we have to hold on to twenty twenty one and
that NBA Cup title.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
You still got Doc Rivers.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
That's true, that's true.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
He's Dan Byer. I'm Mike Carmen at Dan Byron Fox
where you find and find me over at Swollen Dum
coming up next. Do we do the taste test it
or is that an hour one or hour two?
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (19:32):
No, let's we'll give it some of our results. Yeah,
let's see. I think Perfet's had a taste, haven't, Jev
you've yet Profeta is in all right.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
We'll dial up a little of the taste test and
begin our review of the NFC East for fantasy purposes.
See if we can find some more top ten guys,
because they were certainly lacking in the last division that
we traverse that's coming up next year. On Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Welcome back in Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday, Dan
Byer with me on Mike Carmen. Thanks for being with us,
team fully assembled here as we're watching the fourth set.
Actually no, we're yeah, fourth set getting underway.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Here soon enough. Actually third set still roll four? Yes, okay,
but I think Alkaiz is on serve, so he's serving
for the set.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Now there you go, reading one line too far. As
we go through, we'll keep you an eye an eye
on that. We've got baseball already underway at this early hour.
It's Tampa Bay and Miami, so maybe you missed it,
but all that leading up into the NBA Finals later
on today coming up in about fifteen minutes, we got
the feud and we have the first round of the
(20:54):
taste test, and some initial voting has come in Dan
the Beer Brays Steak versus the Beer Canned Chicken chip test.
I mean, as we get into the summer months and
you're thinking about graduation parties, weddings, all those things that
everybody's getting together, big house at the lake, whatever the
case may be, You're trying to figure out what you
(21:14):
should bring as a snack, and this may become an option.
I mean, you were back home in Wisconsin last week
for graduation, and now you come back and you bring
us this.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
You know, the Miller Lite flows well, and this was
and this was something that again I saw yesterday in
the checkout counter, two limited edition Pringles flavors, and one
is Beer Can Chicken. The other one is Beer Bray Steak.
I tasted both chips. I think most of us here
have as well, and I couldn't tell much of a
(21:49):
difference except I think I liked one a lot more.
But I can't tell which one it was, but I'll
just say this. I went with chip number one I
want with Chip number one on this I think I
know what the flavor is and I'm not too sure,
but I voted for Chip number one.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Okay, I voted for Chip number two. Now I am.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
This was curious.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Right as we were talking about you've got the full crew,
they're gonna weigh in on their voting process. But Chris Purfett,
our executive producer, Shay, and then we've got Isaac lowencrown
over at the news desk, is you know, talking about
smells and what might bef of ways or whatever. I
lost my sense of smell six years ago, so I
got nothing. I got a good pealet, I've got like
(22:36):
I could still taste, and you know, flavor is gonna
explode on the tongue and all that fun stuff. But
long ago, whether it was bad residue coming out of
a first run air conditioner, whether I was patient zero
on a cruise when I took the kids on a
Disney cruise years ago, whatever the case is, I haven't
had or just illness in sinuses and whatever. I haven't
(23:00):
had a sense of smell but for small parts of
days going. So that will not influence my my you
will not.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Be overridden by by the way, Carlos Alcarez one that
third set start sorry to steal it from Isaac, but
I misspoke. Sinner was actually serving to pull even, so
they were. Yeah, they were on serve. Alcarez was up
a couple of breaks earlier, but Sinner fought back.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
But I just had a premonition that he was winning there,
that he was finishing.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
The joy were shadowing. So you went with two? I
went with one. Chris Prefett, you were don't give an explanation,
but which one did you go with?
Speaker 4 (23:35):
I went with Sorry, I'm like looking upside down at
this thing, because you know, I'm seeing.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
It in reverse. I went with two. Okay, I went
with two.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Shaye producer, Shay, you have not tried one yet because
it's still sitting over here. Yeah, I got Ice Yes
and Isaac lowing Kron. Where did your vote go?
Speaker 5 (23:53):
I was pleasantly surprised. Actually I was more pleasantly stunned,
because both of them were admittedly very good, but in
the end, there's nothing like a good number two, and
that's why I.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Went with number two. All Right, So we've got a
little split. Bo Benson, who has left the studio voted earlier.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
And I'm running into the back he voted one.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
He did because Chris voted for two and they were
the only two that voted. So I'm alongside Bo Benson
here and producer Shay will end up casting his vote.
But I think we got a tight race between Beer
Brace actually and Beer Can Chicken. Is Shay's vote the
last vote we have? Well, people, Steve Harbin will probably
be here in twelve minutes, so he'll probably go because.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
I was going to say Ricky came in and voted
for two as well.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
No, he did two.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Is so right now the count is four votes for
two votes for one.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
We will reveal what is what Shay will reveal before
the show ends.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
Also, Steve would need to stop talking in order to
try one of the pringles, so we're not holding our breath.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
That's where you get to be part of the conversation there,
Ilo as you as you move forward, so that we
have the the great chip taste test of the early summer.
So well, you know what, Hey, everybody's trying to figure
out snack foods. The big question is did everybody just
eat one?
Speaker 2 (25:13):
I did? I only had one.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Because as we know, you know these things start to yes,
multiply pretty fast or maybe go down five ten at
a time.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
These these will not leave the studio. The tubes will
not leave the studio. They will be here until they're gone.
So somebody's going to eat them at some point.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Taking them home, you got to if nothing else.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
You have trophies, I'll take number one home. I just
don't know which one it is.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
There you go, we'll figure that out in a little
while as we go forward again, keeping an eye on
the front open and everything going on in our sporting universe.
Dan the abbreviated and we'll get back into it a
little bit next hour. Talking about the NFC East for
fantasy purposes. Last week we did the AFC East, and
you've got Josh Allen, you got eight Chan, you got
(25:58):
a couple of heavyweights, and then you've got a bunch
of question marks right when even going down to Tyreek
Hill and guys that have been fantasy heroes in the past,
it's what's their role, what's the offense look like? Is
their discord? Are they still with the team when we
actually break camp, because you still have some of those
little rumors floating out there in the NFL world. But
(26:20):
when we look at the NFC East, you know, writing
down based on where Fantasy pros rankings are on average.
Right now for the early draft returns, we've got two
quarterbacks in the NFC East coming into the top five,
Jaden Daniels coming in at number three, with Jalen Hurts
right behind him. I might have them flipped. And there's
(26:43):
something with Washington that in terms of they're over under
win total and successes, while Daniels may be a better,
more efficient quarterback to the numbers, wins and everything else follow.
Not to mention the Terry McLaurin part of the equation
right just sitting out there ADP wide receiver seventeen in
(27:04):
PPR leagues and he's very unhappy with his contract not
showing up Now, does that settle eventually, more likely than not,
but it does add a wrinkle to things. For a
team that greatly overachieved. They bring in Deebo Samuel as
his number two. So that just the curiosity up top
(27:24):
when you're looking at a guy like Jayden Daniels. I
don't think I'm paying the tax.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
You're not. I am, and I am paying a lot
of it. And the reason being is I think that
that Daniels gets his points for Washington fantasy wise, whether
they're winning or not. And if you look at kind
of how last year transpired, it was a mostly successful
year for Washington, but early on they lost the season
(27:49):
opening game to the Buccaneers. They had their field goal
fest against the Giants that they ended up winning, but
you had Jaden Daniels doing some damage with his legs
at that point. That still continued, Mike, but he wasn't
getting into the end zone via touchdown runs. He was
doing so via touchdown passes later on in the season.
So that to me is whether Washington is up or down.
(28:13):
And they may be ten and seven this year, they
may be nine and eight, they may be fourteen and three.
I don't know how it doesn't change for Jayden Daniels
and the additions that they made Laramie Tonsel now at
left tackle better for Daniels in that way, no real
addition at the running back position. So now you've got
(28:34):
Eckler and Robinson kind of doing the same thing. So
you're not giving the football to somebody who you just
gave a bunch of money to that you need to
force feed that would maybe take away from Daniels, and
you added debo with where you can use him as
a Swiss army knife but may help in just even
short little passes and screens that end up going for further.
So I'm higher. You're high on Jaden Daniels, don't get
(28:56):
me wrong, but I still would take him over Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Yeah, finishes QB five a year ago, about thirty points
higher than QB six, who was Jared Goff and just
behind Baker Mayfield with the you know trinity, keeping with
the sin Centers theme of Jackson, Allen and Burrow.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
At the time, I think there's a there's a real
chance tougher schedule. We know how many coin flips they
won last year, looking at how many times you looked
at Washington and said, man that they escape, right.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
I don't know anything about that. And it all started
with a Giant play.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
I mentioned the Giants game where the Giants didn't have
a field goal kicker because they didn't plan for Lawrence
Time's getting hurt in the first quarter and so they
couldn't They couldn't kick throughout the game, and that's how
they won with seven field goals. They won a game
against New Orleans. That was right right at the buzz,
like they won crazy games last year and at some
point those aren't going to go your way. And Mike
in the same breath with Philadelphia. For as great as
(29:54):
everything went, and now you have a Super Bowl championship
with you, I think there's destined to be a bit
of a pullback. I just don't know where it comes.
I don't know if it comes from Jalen Hurts. I
don't know if it comes from Saquon Barkley, who is magnificent.
But I would expect some regression at that point.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
So let's let's go into them a bit. You know,
with Hurts, obviously the tush push remains, so you'll get
your rushing touchdown as much as the sugar in of
the Saquon Barkley owners out there. Barkley coming in at
number three on the draft board right now, the continued
run of you know, hey, b Jon Robinson is going
(30:30):
to be that guy, very continues to push that so
that that works. But he's third, and then you have
aj Brown at ten, DeVante Smith coming in at twenty three,
so it's fantasy starters. I was curious as and then
we look at the other two quarterbacks. Dak at fifteen,
(30:51):
I think it's I.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Think it's way too low. I know the deck's numbers
when hell, they weren't magnificent last year. But Mike, I
also think in the same way as we look at Washington,
my take on Dallas is there not gonna be as
good of a football team. I don't know if they
really addressed the running back room. There's new faces there.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Javonte Williams is not the answer.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Yeah, correct. Jayden Blewen actually may end up being the
answer for Dallas. But so now you've added George Pickens
via trade, so you're gonna want to cash that in.
I don't think they're better defensively, so they're probably gonna
have to score points. All of that to me leads
to a better situation with Dak. And maybe the thing
that's keeping Saquon from the number one spot is the
(31:36):
possibility of injury or from his history. I'm wondering if
that's what's bringing DAK down so much down to fifteen,
because I actually think there's a lot of potential win
or lose for the Cowboys. The only way that they're
gonna win any games is if Dak's throwing the ball
to Ceed Lamb and George Pickens and Jake Ferguson. The
only reason they're gonna lose games is if they lose games,
(32:00):
Decks still gonna be throwing the football. So I don't know.
I know Brian Schottenneimer is gonna do things differently, but
I just don't know how you can with that running
back room.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
Ferguson at twelve among tight ends, that was one that
I circled as potential value proposition with the two heavyweight
wide receivers, assuming Pickings gets along with everybody in the room,
he's Dan Byron. Mike Carwell can send you this a
little bit, Yeah, exactly next hour, But first let's turn
it over to the news desk with an update from
our guy, Isaac Lowenkron. Remember he picked chip number two.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
What do you got, Ilo, I got an update on
what's turning into a riveting men's final of the French
Open between one Seedyonic Center and two seed Carlos al Karraz.
Center took the first set six to four, then went
up five to two in the second set. Al Karaz
then won four of the next five games to force
a second set tiebreak. Only to have Center prevail in
(32:55):
the tie break seven to four for a two sets
to none lead. And now here's how the third set concluded.
Moments ago, the.
Speaker 6 (33:02):
Second serve kicks up again. He hasn't double falsest in
this tournament so far. The foehends through the middle of
the Court's a little bit short. Is a heavy fourhand
from center, sitting with his backhand, bats at cross courts,
the backhand down the line from alacross, the pickup from center,
the big football for acress inside out, he goes with
the volley out crazy, He's got it.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
Two hutus, He's game on.
Speaker 6 (33:22):
In the men's finally, Yannick Cinner two cents to one,
call us southcrass the third.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
Set Gg Salmon with a call on Roland Garros Radio.
And right now Center and al Kharaz are tied at
one game apiece in the fourth set of the men's
final at Wimbledon. Tonight at eight Eastern, Game two of
the NBA Finals from Oklahoma City, with the Indiana Pacers
leading the Thunder one game. Then, only actually even have
a Major League baseball game going on right now. The
(33:48):
Marlins a one nothing lead at Tampa Bay in the
bottom half of the second inning, guys, back to you.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Marlin's got swept by the Rockies and they get relegated.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Way to go.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Yeah, check out all the calls Angel CITYFC at Isaac
Lowencron where you find it to tie yesterday? Thanks Ila.
We'll hear from him in a moment because we're gonna
get everybody together around the fireside. Maybe we'll have some
chips the time for some snacks and games.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
And here's what you need to ponder. A win is
a win in the NBA Finals, no matter how you
get it. Chew on that. We'll discuss it next. Here
on Fox you're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. Hey,
welcome back in Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday by
Garment Dan Bayer with you team assembled, full slate of
(34:38):
sporting events rolling on. But it's time to take a pause,
grab a chip and play a game.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
Let's get the family together and play the feud. Here
on Fox Sports Radio, Mike Harmon, Chris Purfett, Shay More,
Huguard Close. I tried it this time, Shay was, Oh,
he doesn't have his head. He doesn't have his head.
G there's no extra headset for me today. I got one,
I got one in here. I'll come and grab it. Yeah,
Shay is here, and Isaac Lohenkron is here as well.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
It's better there better be an extra otherwise, Hartman's gonna Complain's.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Top seven answers on the board. Top seven answers on
the board. So the Indiana Pacers won their third NBA
Finals game in franchise history on Thursday night. What NBA teams,
there's seven of them. Current NBA franchises not defunct have
won fewer NBA Finals games, So we're actually talking about
(35:36):
games here. The Pacers now have won three games in
their history, so that means two one or zero. Basically
is a question.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
I'm sorry, does this include teams that have never made
it to the finals or teams that have played but
just not one?
Speaker 2 (35:50):
It's two one or zero, Isaac, two won ers zero.
I think I've given you enough guidance, except one other point.
If we were gonna say the Lake, they would also
include the Minneapolis Lakers. So it's as a franchise, that's
how you would look at So if a team moved
those count let's start with Mike Carmen. Teams that have
(36:11):
won fewer games that the Pacers have an NBA Finals
history basically two, one or none. The magic, the Orlando Magic.
Show me the magic. There they are one. They've won
one game and that was a tricky one because they
were swept by the Rockets in ninety five and then
when they lost to the Lakers, they were beaten in
five games, so they only have one Orlando Magic. Off
(36:34):
the board. Over to Chris Purfett.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
All right, since we're I'm going to assume guys who
haven't made it is zero. I'm going to go with
New Orleans Pelicans.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Show me the Pelicans. Yes, no NBA Finals appearances yet.
Come on, as Megan Markle would say, yet yet? Boy?
Is that I think it's so cringe? Yet? Yet? All right,
let's go to producer Shay. You know exactly what I'm.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Talking about, right, My hair just stood up a bus.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Yet looking for the teams that have won fewer NBA
Finals games than the Indiana Pacers, who picked up their
third Finals win on Thursday night. Shay, who do you got.
Speaker 7 (37:15):
Gonna get rid of another easy one?
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Let's go Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte Hornets, Show me the Hornets. Alright,
zero none, nada over to Isaac lohing Cross.
Speaker 5 (37:25):
I'm actually gonna go with the team that has played
in a final but has not wanted.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Let's go with the nets, the nets, the Brooklyn slash,
maybe New Jersey nets, Piscatawa, show me the nets. There
they are with two? With two they won two games
in their appearances in the NBA Finals in two thousand
and three, was what they were swept yep by the
Lakers in two thousand and two. All right, back around
(37:51):
to Mike Harmon.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Hey reminder shortly after the show, the podcast goes up.
If you missed Eddie Today's show, be sure to check
it out. Search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your

Evangelized to friends and family as we continue our quest
for global domination. Again, search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcasts, and you'll see today's show posted right
after we get off the air. Noted for their futility
(38:14):
and the hosts of money in the bank, the Clippers.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
The Clippers, and they have not been money when it
comes to the NBA Finals because they've not been there.
Show me the Clippers. There it is into it. Dom
is that tonight is that it last night, well last night, okay,
I knew it was sometime this weekend.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Hey, Ron Killings, also known as our Truth, came back
Ilo closing the loop from last.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Week five five for five. I felt the perfect game
was in order, and in fact, I kind of I
don't want to jinx it, but I think we got
some of the difficult teams out of the way. Over
to Chris perfect.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
All right, Well, thanks to Steve Hartman and Shay. We
know it's not the Hawks, so take them, which I
was thinking about for a bit. Who I'm gonna risk
it here?
Speaker 1 (38:57):
The Jazz.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
The Jazz.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
I know they've been in finals, but I don't think
they I think they got like swept.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Is it the Jazz? Yes, the jinx is real. The Jazz.
Our first strike over to Shay. Teams that have won
fewer than three NBA Finals games in their history. I'm
gonna say, Grizzly.
Speaker 7 (39:16):
Is here another easy one?
Speaker 5 (39:17):
Ah?
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Memphis walking in Memphis? Do they have the Blues? Sure
they do? Show me Memphis. All right, there it is
one answer, laught Isaac Laurin Crown in Minnesota, Timberwolves, show
me the Minnesota Timberwolves. There it is that's a win
for the Fox family on this Sunday. Wow, good work.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
He did not and there was no hesitation. I was
a spot up three boom.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
I thought the magic was gonna be the tricky one
and you hit it right off the top.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
So well, just remember them getting swept when all the
height right, Shack and Petty, it's the age. No, it's not.
I hate one story mercifully ended this week. We'll tell
you what it is next. Ah greetings, welcome in another
hour Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. Blessed to be
with you as always. To my left is my God,
Damn Byer the Eye Watcher Flex Podcast Up and rolling.
(40:07):
We got our AFC East preview from last week up
the NFC East. We started it last hour. We'll continue
that with some more NFL conversation coming up in about
twenty minutes. Not that we're not starting with the NFL,
but we have to keep people apprized of the voting
continues and the great chip off to start the summer season,
(40:28):
the Beer Can Chicken versus the Beer Brays Steak and
starting to see the results. Like I wish I hadn't
seen the sheets, Dan, I'm got a little confused.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
I stayed away because I think, I think I know
which one is which, and we will unveil it in
the final segment coming up in about forty five minutes
or so. But there's been a lot of number two.
I was outnumbered on the air for our crew here,
and then Steve Hartman walks in and he ends up
taking a chip, and he took chip number two as well.
(40:59):
I think I know what it is, and I'm a
bit surprised because to me and my chip, I just
felt that there was more of a stronger flavor, like
more of a of a pow with it. That's what
I got from my chip, which was chip number one
in our blind taste test.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
Well, we'll see the result a little later on in
the hour. And then the gluttony commences. As we get
deeper into a Sunday rolling up.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
On the surface, you see beer canned chicken pringles in
beer bray steak pringles. I immediately thought on the surface
that the chicken would be better, and I don't know
if that's the case, but I don't know. Did you
have a lean going into what you thought? Like I
(41:45):
was thinking about the taste, and I'm like, I don't
know how the taste for a steak would be. Are
they both taste like beer? How does it work? But
I thought my lean was that chicken would be the
better option, maybe because it looks like they have a
nice barbecued chicken. Not that the steak on the can
with the miller light there is any less appealing. But
(42:06):
I just thought that the beer canned chicken Pringle was
going to was going to get my vote.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
It also prompted me to start looking up beer canned
chicken for the next iteration of grilling season.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
By the way, if you are a listener to Fox
Sports Sunday last week, I told you in the media center,
I had root beer Brai's short rib. Yeah, you cooked
it up yourself.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
I sweek. I found a recipe that worked simpler and
it went over very well at home.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Really it looked it was.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
There were no leftover, so I will need to make
another batch for a following Sunday here at Fox Sports
Radio because that four pounds of short rib gone gone. Friends. Well,
because it's the repeats final weeks of the school year,
so you know, study groups and you know burning, you know,
(42:52):
burning off the excess steam from all the studying you've done. Hey,
let's get together watch a movie. It's like, what's that
in there? That's Budd made some short rips. He did
what there you go? Time in bowl after bowl and
away it went. So I'll claim victory on that. And
this is where you know, look, not a sponsor, but
this is where Virgils came into play. I'm a fan
(43:14):
of the product, and so that was my root beer
of choice.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
Well job, well done. It looked delicious in the picture.
Speaker 1 (43:21):
Well, well, we'll replicate it and bring it in for
the crew and make sure that it goes around. But
I won't be here long enough to clean up, so
someone has to play mom or dad or whoever's in
charge of cleaning your house as it goes through. I
did not want to make that a you know, a
gender specific thing, because I do most of the cooking
and well the cleaning of the mess that I make.
(43:42):
RBC Canadian Open ongoing as we roll Ford, but coming
up this next week we get to the US Open
at Oakmont, where we talk about Pittsburgh, which leads us
to our next story here in the sporting universe. And
I told you as we were in the commercial break
and talking about, you know, rading card shows or whatever like.
There's still time for you to find a plane, a bus,
(44:03):
a train, something.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Dan Oakmont is my favorite course that isn't augusta National,
that is out there. Just you're gonna fall in love
with it. It will I don't know if it'll bring
the players to their knees, but it will. It will
not be easy. You can see a winning score at
overpar just depends on how much they want to tighten
the screws. One of the old sayings is they slow
(44:27):
down the greens for the US Open at Oakmont, so
the membership has them cooking, but they'll be flying. There
was a green controversy the last time we were there
when Dustin Johnson's ball moved on the fifth hole of
the final round. Go Johnson ended up winning. I've been
to the US Open the last two times it's been
at Oakmont, in two thousand and seven and in twenty sixteen.
(44:48):
Had a chance to play it the day after in
twenty sixteen and loved it even more so I am excited.
There's there's a bit of a buzz in golf with
Rory McElroy winning the Masters. I think that's continued and
Scottie Scheffler's play has helped, and that's big news considering
I think for the last year or so it's just
been in an absolutely dull in snoozefest. We've got a
(45:10):
Ryder Cup coming up this year at beth Page, which
should be crazy. So I think golf is on the
upswing and this next week and I think we're going
to be having some fun to talk about next Sunday
entering the final round on Father's Day. But I expect
a great, great show in Oakmont to shine this week.
Speaker 1 (45:26):
That's a reminder going and get those greeting cards, maybe
a recipe for beer can chicken because Father's Day is
a week hence we'll get into the US Open. But
a big story with Rory McElroy kind of circulating this
week that we'll need to talk about here as we
close up and get the results of our poll from
the crew here on the taste test. But another story
(45:49):
in Pittsburgh which comes to an end and people calling
for it the end, Smith is like, yeah, he did
it out of spite because I said he was going
to walk away at chuckle to go. Well, I think
we've got powers. We don't have those kind of magical powers.
But Aaron Rodgers finally signs the deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He put up the photo of him smiling as he's
signing the contract. Thirteen point sixty five million dollars ten
(46:13):
million guaranteed, max value of nineteen five playtime, performance bonuses,
all of that fun stuff, and it's a story that
I think for the sporting universe. You know, in terms
of TV and radio Dan, a lot of folks hoped
would carry on another couple of weeks because then you
could still do more handwringing that he's not in camp,
(46:33):
that he's not showing up, particularly now that we're at
the quote unquote mandatory mini camp stage of things. This
next week on Tuesday, that's the date for the Steelers
session to start, which was what I'd circled all along
of why am I bothering before them? Whatever is going
on in his personal life, hopefully everybody's good reports of
(46:54):
friends going through illnesses and such. Whatever is going on
in the background, Hopefully you know that's resolved and he's
at peace with that. But in terms of football status,
there was nothing he had to do before this coming Tuesday.
So as a veteran of twenty years, You tell me
you can't still go throw in a park somewhere or
behind closed doors with the guys that if this was
(47:16):
legitimately a handshake agreement going back six weeks.
Speaker 2 (47:19):
Yeah, which we've heard that there may have been throwing
sessions that I've gone on at least with him in DK,
Metcalf and Mike. I'm in that group of people that
was ready to pile on Aaron Rodgers if this was
going to linger into July and linger into training camp,
because I just thought, like, what are we It's one
thing for a veteran to not show up that's been
a left tackle and been with the team for a
(47:40):
long long time. I mentioned Walter Jones in the past,
did it with Seattle, and he'd show up and he'd
be all pro Walter Jones, and it was wouldn't skip
a beat. Trent Williams got more money for the forty
nine ers last year, but kind of the same thing.
He didn't want to deal with training camp and got
his cash and came in and showed up and was
Trent Williams. And I think it's different with quarterbacks, and
(48:01):
that's why I would have been in that group. But
I'm now no longer in that group because that group
doesn't exist because Rogers has signed it. And in fact,
I'm now in a group Mike that says kudos to
Aaron Rodgers for getting this done, Kudos for Aaron Rodgers
for the salary that he's taking now. Granted it's just
a one year deal, which I think does benefit him
in the fact of I felt like with the Jets
(48:23):
he had more control because it was a two year deal.
It was his way of doing things, and ultimately it
didn't go right in New York. But this has to
go right for Pittsburgh because if it doesn't, Aaron Rodgers
is going to move on, and if Aaron Rodgers doesn't
play well, the Steelers won't want him back. But I
do give Aaron Rodgers credit for taking the amount of
(48:45):
money that he did, and I give him credit to
your point showing up when he needed to show up.
I just don't think that his past in missing those
events gave him the benefit of the doubt this time.
So that would really stink. If there were personal things
and family stuff, and obviously this the Steelers understood what
was going on. But to your point, he's going to
(49:06):
be there when he needs to be there, And I
think that's a that's a huge win for the Steelers
and a tip of the cap to Aaron Rodgers for
not playing the game any longer.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
Yeah, I feel feel bad that Daniel Jones ends up
getting dragged with Rogers signing this contract because I don't
know how many times you saw the meme that Daniel
Jones in Indianapolis will make more money than Aaron Rodgers.
Now Rogers with bonus structure could exceed that. But we'll
get back to Daniel Jones because he's a pivotal part
of our other NFL conversation for the day. But with Rogers, look,
(49:39):
you lost the benefit of the doubt years ago, Like
I was out, and not just because he was a
member of the Packers and I'm a Chicago kid. But
as soon as he started going down the Brett Favre
and Ben Roethlisberger see it all ties together the playbook
of I think I'm done. Yeah, I think i think
I've had enough. Like as soon as you start going
down that road, like the organization has no choice but
to start looking. So when they after Jordan Love all
(50:01):
those years ago, I felt like I was on an
island and the only guy defending it, Like he's telling
you he's got issues with how you're doing things. He's
talking about retirement, and eventually you need another quarterback because
how many times have we seen teams fail to have
that guy ready to go right, Philip Rivers with the Chargers, yes,
Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh Tom Brady. They drafted guys, but was
(50:24):
there ever a guy that was going to be a solution? No,
that would work with the Belichick world, and we watched
it work, and mac Jones could have been except they
decided to go mad science with a bunch of stuff
and blew up his life and career for all of that.
But for the Packers, they were ready to move on.
And then you get to the next iteration. He goes
(50:45):
to the Jets. He's the king of New York and
it looked like he was embracing everything right. He was
on Broadway, showing up at every tourist spot and then
unfortunately forced naps in the only memory of that season
was him carrying the flag out right. That was it.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
Four plays late and the season was over. You know
when I mentioned play that game, it was the game
that you were talking about Mike the wishy washy stuff
that's and and he's apparently not playing it. And I
wonder how much it has to do with Mike Tomlin
because in the jet situation, it was his buddy Nathaniel
Hackett and Sala and Joe Douglas were kind of I
(51:19):
don't want to say put in the situation because they
signed off on it, but of giving up control of
their franchise to Rogers because they were in so desperate
need of it. And I know that Pittsburgh Steelers fans
are desperate to get out of this hole, but it's
just I don't know if they need it. And I
think it's more of a respect between Rogers and Tomlin
(51:42):
than maybe what was the previous relationship which has Rogers
doing this.
Speaker 1 (51:46):
Yeah, to be curious, right as you look at the
way this this roster is assembled, right is You've got
DK metcalf, a couple of young receivers that we don't
know about. You got Friar Mooth. There's been John hus
Smith rumor that we talked about a little bit. L
I mean, you want to talk about it. Not that
Aaron Rodgers was always the most tight end friendly quarterback.
(52:08):
But this is a guy that doesn't necessarily line up
and play like a normal tight end. Right eighty eight catches,
he's split wide and running out of the slot and
doing some other things. So it's a different, different rhythm there.
Now does he come in and completely bull rush Arthur
Smith's offense? Yes, he does. Right, it's gonna be It's
not the same as Hackett, but I think it effectively
(52:31):
will become the same. It's like, yeah, I'll listen to you.
But in the end, he's brought in kind of has
a hired gun to stop you know, the old Susan powder,
you know, the shaved head, you know, stop the insanity.
There you go. I'm bridging the gap for anybody, well
my age of fifty one, the late night infomercials, but
(52:52):
just that idea of you need competent quarterback play because
you've had the defense. You didn't have to like Najie
Harris and Jalen Warren as a com but they were effective.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (53:02):
Right, You're always going to get decent offensive line play.
Speaker 4 (53:04):
That is a.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
Staple of Pittsburgh Steeler football going back years to where
you needed a quarterback to push you over. Now, does
he the over under for their wins didn't move, still
sitting at eight and.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
Now, Yeah, and I wondered if that was baked in again,
that was you know, the expectation that he.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Would be that he was there. Yeah, I mean that
was already baked in. And and you know through all
the the permutations algorithms for for the AFC that at
eight and a half, it's like, all right, he keeps
the line moving, but he's better, Like he wasn't brilliant,
but he's still finished as a top ten in yards
and touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
His numbers were better than I gave him credit for.
Speaker 1 (53:45):
Now, a couple of those games from the touchdown side
of things really skew it. Like he had a couple
of huge games that really put him over the top
against bad team and the Jet.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Yeah, and the Jets that such bad losses that as
well where you're like, they lost that game, how do
they that contest? They let that team come in And
so that I think is well also altered people's view
of the season that Rogers had.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Now the curiosity becomes as we get towards fantasy draft season,
we'd be remiss if we didn't do a quick we'll
do a full AFC North later on with everything. But
as we look at the quarterback position for this year, Dan,
how high do you look look at Aaron Rodgers as
a viable fantasy starter right now? He's now it hasn't
(54:32):
reflected him actually signing, but this is where in an
industry that is going through numbers and pouring through and expectations.
He still has a back end QB two right now. Yeah,
I would expect him back end QB one. Again. It
assumes health.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
It assumes health volume. But also I just am not
in love. I'm not in love with what Pittsburgh has
in It's because I'm just not sold that DK Metcalf
is that guy.
Speaker 1 (55:05):
Because he used to be a Seahawks. In your spur,
you're spurned.
Speaker 2 (55:09):
I don't. I don't know, no I and your your
point is, it's not that I'm spurned, It's just that
there was never a point like DK Metcalf made some
amazing plays, but DK Metcalf never took over a game
right like there was. We remember him chasing down Buddha Baker.
(55:29):
It's it's probably as most known highlight as it should
be for the effort and the speed and and that
he gave on a play that seemed was seemingly lost.
But there was never a point where you're going rams
Cooper Cup in the Super Bowl where it's just like
we're just gonna go to him and keep going to him.
And so that's my concern. Like freakish athlete can make
(55:50):
great catches, you know, the when he catches the ball,
it looks like he's catching a ping pong you know,
ping pong ball, Like it's he's massive, physical in the
whole deal. But there's just there's just something that's missing
of him taking over a game. And that's that's my
issue is, then how does Pittsburgh get it done? And
(56:11):
I seemingly may have a TJ. Watt situation to go,
you know, with his contract and wanting a new deal.
He's your most important Pittsburgh Steeler, probably more so than
Aaron Rodgers. I just don't know how much you can
expect from the offense. He just needed to be productive
and playing concert with your defense. But I just am
not in love with DK to to raise Aaron Rodgers.
(56:33):
Fantasy wise, can the.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
NFL owners sue the players for collusion when you look
at Micah Parsons, TJ. Watt and Trey Hendris. They're trying
to hold us over up there.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
Then Miles Garrett money is I mean, and everybody.
Speaker 1 (56:50):
Was mad at him because he did to show up
to OTAs because he was at an anime convention with
his new girlfriend. So how about that at Dan Byron
Fox where you find and find me? Over at Swollen Dome,
We've got Sinner serving for the win.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
Yes, he had three championship points. He was up forty love,
but Alcaaz was able to fight back and hold serve
and to make it five four. But Sinner right now,
as he said, serving for the match.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
I dig that he's got that little boy look with
the ball cap on and everything as he rolls out there. Man,
we've got Ricky running, he's doing imaging and coming in
on a Sunday. He looks like he's ready to go
play a couple of sets with the headband.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
I love the Blue and the Green combo as a
Seahawks fan, but for some reason, I just don't know
if it works with Cinner Spike Lee taking it in.
He was there for Cocoa golfs win yesterday as well.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
Yeah, you made some headlines there. Yes, that's lucky he
didn't you have a ball fired back.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
Back to back to to Sinner's outfit. I think blue
and green works for the Minnesota Timberwolves. There's something about
this combo that I don't know what it is, just
doesn't work for me.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
About that. And just to close it, the DK Metcalf
Ring of honor ceremony. This is the play and it's
him chasing down Buddha Baker, not any catch like that's it.
Speaker 2 (58:11):
The Seahawks just unveiled their top fifty players of the
last fifty years, and DK Metcalf was one of them.
I'm curious on how much like in the video. I
didn't see the video breakdown. I know that he was named,
but how much how many other receiving plays are highlighted
aside from that one?
Speaker 1 (58:27):
You go and try to figure it out. It's like
a class ranking. Where is he in the top thing? Yes,
he's Dan on Mike, we'll come back, we'll have a
maybe a French Open winner, and we'll continue talking National
Football League while we open the book and another chapter
in Pittsburgh for Aaron Rodgers. Maybe we close a book
and put it on the shelf permanently for another NFL quarterback.
That's next on Fox. When last we left you here
(58:49):
at Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday, Welcome back, Mike Carmen,
dan Byer with you all right, Roland Garrols. We thought, oh,
we'll come back and they'll be having at trophy ceremony.
Algarez goes on a ridiculous run like he's a Indiana pacer,
and all of a sudden, we got ourselves some drama.
Speaker 2 (59:06):
Centner was up five to three at one point in
this match at triple championship point, trying to break Carlos
Alkaaz couldn't do it. And now Alcarez has broken Sinner,
and then Alcaz has won the next game, and now
it's six' five in the fourth, set.
Speaker 1 (59:24):
Went out an eleven to one run to get us
to where we are. Here we've seen The hawkeye put into.
Effect you AND i wondering and out just, like, OKAY
i Guess hawkeye over rules. Us we See Dirk novitsky
And Tony parker hanging out in the, crowd so you,
know a little bit of. Chaos just when it looked
Like cinner was going to start, rolling we came on.
(59:46):
Air you, know he battled through and it was up
to two to none and now here we.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Are yes And alkaz has all the momentum right, now
but that can change. Again but look like is not
that we were, vamping but we were just kind of
waiting for the inevitable and it didn't. Occur and Now Carlos,
alcarez if he can Break Yanix Center, serve they'll head
(01:00:12):
to a fifth set and he'll have all the. Momentum
how crazy is?
Speaker 1 (01:00:15):
That it's like we're vamping a bit talking about his,
outfit WHICH i think is responding because it also fit
with what we were talking about with THE Dk metcalf.
World but another show we were back in THE, nfl,
right we're talking a lot About Aaron. Rodgers that deal finally.
Signed what does it Mean pittsburgh and stability if only
for a year to get that upgrade In they didn't
(01:00:35):
have to break glass in case of emergency For Kirk
cousins as was. Speculated but a team that's in a
curious spot with their quarterback and really in division because
there's one circling underneath it THAT i don't think he's
getting enough. Run but we look at The Indianapolis colts
And Anthony richardson shoulder injury that he's trying to battle.
Through they bring In Daniel jones to try to battle
(01:00:59):
AND i can see and if he can find what
The giants once did in that first round evaluation and
ultimate draft selection Of Daniel. Jones but For Anthony, richardson
a tough run coming out of. College we know all
the stats about fewest starts in college coming into the,
pros and we saw some things you'd, like just not
(01:01:20):
consistently enough to where it's, like all, right it's starting to. Click,
right you'd have one game or one quarter of, play it's,
like all, right he's hitting these. Receivers he's got, pierced
he's got. Down because you have a pretty nice scenario
in terms of your pass catchers when you talk about
all those, guys full compliment of, Receivers Jonathan, taylor it's all.
There you dow draft a tight, end and now it's
(01:01:42):
just can you get competent? Play and Now richardson on
the shelf with his shoulder injury and wondering if that
isn't the final.
Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
NAIL i think it is the final. NAIL i don't
make the, Rules, mike you don't make the. Rules BUT
i think we can officially say That Anthony richardson as
An indianapolis cult is a. Bust his career may not
be a, bust BUT i think for his time In,
INDIANAPOLIS i think we've reached that point the first two
years he was given the starting job where the backup
(01:02:12):
was brought in to help bring him, Along Gardner minshew
And Joe. Flacco and, now as you, said open, competition
but it doesn't even have to be the open. Competition
AND i feel bad for the podcast listeners and those
that are going to listen back to this mic because
we do have bust to move playing behind. Me and
it allows me to just give me some numbers For
Anthony richardson and WHY i think we could say he's a.
(01:02:34):
Bust out of thirty six qualified quarterbacks in passer rating last,
year his was sixty one point. Six that was thirty
six out of thirty, six so that was dead. Last
no one was worse passer rating wise Than Anthony. Richardson
the next closest quarterback passer rating, Wise, oh what do you,
know It's Daniel jones seventy nine point. Four so the
guy that he's competing with was almost eighteen points better
(01:02:55):
in passer rating last. Year if that doesn't fly with you,
up that's My he did have a game where he
threw for two hundred and seventy two yards Passing. Mic
the next closest was two hundred and. Twelve just doesn't
get it. Done in their six, wins he had four
touchdown passes and four touchdown, runs but in three of
those six, Wins mike he had, Neither so he wasn't
(01:03:16):
the reason that they were winning those. Games AND i
go back to passer rating BECAUSE i want to bring
up this. Number he had passer ratings of one, sixteen
one o, six one oh, one and ninety. Seven the
one sixteen passer rating was in a game where he
went three to four for seventy one yards before leaving
with an. Injury we also had the TapouT. Game here
were other ratings sixty tap out, yes sixty fifty, nine fifty,
(01:03:36):
five forty, eight forty, one thirty, nine and thirty. Six
those were passer ratings and games For Anthony richardson those
that's the full gamut of his passer rating and we
have not seen any improvement over his now two plus
years in The National Football league And. Mike if he
can't stay on the, field it also means that he
can't do what he's best, at and that's running the
(01:03:59):
football in making plays with his. Legs he had the
highest completion the yards per completion of any quarterback on
average in THE nfl this past, season likely because teams
are trying to stop him And Jonathan. Taylor let's throw
a couple of bombs. Deep that's the only thing that
he led the league in and was competent. In it's
(01:04:21):
not meant to be a personal knock At Anthony, richardson
who's twenty three years, Old but how many opportunities can
you get and, now if you're not even fully healthy
enough to be on the field to improve and do
the stuff that you are actually good, AT i don't
know how he can be anything but a bust In indian.
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
Apples, well we've been talking a lot for years, quarterbacks
going From Lamar jackson on his entry all the way
Through Josh allen AND i always hate grabbing the top,
guys but for the purpose of this, argument we'll grab
the top. Guys is the when do you have to
pull the string and pull it back on how much
they're running Night With Josh, allen that's what we come
(01:04:59):
in to every season of how many fewer carries can they?
Do and The James cook situation with his contract is
interesting as a side story to all of. This but
with Richards and we haven't seen enough improvement at all
on the passing side to even say he's gonna run
less correct the only thing he truly does well when
he's physically able to do, It steichen in his comments
(01:05:21):
because we hope to have him back during training camp
at some point with his shoulder, injury so.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
He's lost all of this time where he needed to
get better throwing the football and he's not getting that
opportunity to do. So it's funny you AND i remember
have had the same conversation when it came To Cam,
newton where it's Like i'd rather have eight years Of
Cam newton Being Cam newton doing both running and throwing the,
football than trying to save him and only making him
a pastor like he. Needed For Cam newton to be truly,
(01:05:50):
effective he needed to be the multi dimensional. GUY i
think the same thing With Josh allen and With Anthony.
Richardson right, now the passing isn't up there to make
him a two dimensional. Guy it's only the, running and
if you can't stay on the, field then you can't
really run. Him, Mike that's, like that's my issue with.
It maybe as he gets older and if he finds
(01:06:13):
a new team at some. POINT i don't think The
colts are giving up on, him but by having a
competition right, NOW i think that they're saying and there
was a competition from right when the regular season, Ended
Chris balloch, said this is an open. COMPETITION i think
you kind of know how they end, up how they
feel About Anthony. Richardson i'm not saying they Want Daniel
jones to win the. JOB i just don't think they
feel that they can count On richardson at this, point
(01:06:34):
and the rules have. Changed Bryce young was this close
to being a bust and he turned it out at
the end of last, season and now we expect a
lot of better things from The Carolina panthers in that,
REGARD i don't think that you could see it say
the same For Anthony richardson in the progress that he's.
Made and, again it's a different game. Now top five,
guys you don't sit there and wait for four. Years
you know in the first couple of years and you move.
(01:06:56):
On Ask Sam, darnold Ask Baker. Mayfield those guys played
under the same. Rule AND i think that we can
look At Anthony richardson and, say for his time as a,
cult he has been a draft bust for.
Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
Them, well it becomes a question do you have the
luxury of a competent quarterback that they grow. Behind go
back to The packers'. Situation it love necessarily what you
were getting From Aaron rodgers in terms of buy in
and what he was saying, publicly and that continues regardless
of what format and forum that he's speaking. In but
it was the idea, of all, right we got to
(01:07:26):
have that plan in place because he's a mid thirties.
Quarterback let's move forward. Here these guys were drafted without
a veteran that was there for another, year and you're
the quarterback in. Waiting Because i've always, thought if the
guy's not, READY i don't want him on THE i
get it the ticking clock of the rookie quarterback wage
and whatever, else but if he's not, ready are you
(01:07:47):
really making any progress with? Him and For Anthony, richardson
from day, one it was the question of he hasn't
played a lot of football and he was scattershot in
the games he played in. College, yes, right you saw
a lot of things you, liked physical running the, football
big arm, strength all of that, stuff but it hadn't
been a well he played seven straight games where he. Dominated,
(01:08:07):
right he was The September, heisman as we joked during that,
process in his collegiate. Run but at no point have
we seen him put together four quarters correct in AN nfl.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
GAME i think there's one game against The jets maybe
if you wanted to make an, argument but, again, yeah
like there's like that's the point of that's how few
and far between And mike during the draft, process AND
i WATCHED. Cj straut a ton in. College but during
that draft, PROCESS i was still, saying if you want
to risk, it and if you want to trade, up
(01:08:41):
and if you're a team that just picks, it could
trade up and get number one because it was for
sale with The bears and The panthers did For Bryce,
young like go Get Anthony, richardson try to have him
be Your Josh, allen try to have him be Your Cam.
Newton SO i was on that. TRAIN i WAS i,
Was and it's not That i'm. Abandoning it's just that
(01:09:01):
the evidence is there and he could be successful quarterback
in THE nfl at some point in his. Career it's
just not going to happen in my mind In. Indianapolis
didn't happen on the field right.
Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
AWAY i, mean we're looking At, Pittman, pierce Ad Ni
mitchell that they expect more. From you've Got taylor and
you Add Tyler. Warren you've got a, squad and you've
got a division that's topsy. Turvy you can go get. It,
Yeah Now i'd be remiss IF i. Didn't while we're
in THE Afc south, here you brought Up. Stroud his
shoulder stuff concern you at all at this?
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Point not, yet because AND i THINK. Cj stroud is
the benefit of the doubt for how great the rookie
season ended up going for. Him but injury, wise you
do have to have some concern with. It BUT i
am not there, yet AND i think their situations are completely.
Different But i'm not there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
Yet with still from a throwing soreness and everything that's
been circulating, there it leaves me moderately. Concerned, obviously this
is a all, right we've got a. Team you only
have a couple more years Of Jonathan, taylor and not
that you're building off running backs as much as folks
want to talk about the new age of the running
(01:10:14):
backs like they went to good. Teams all those guys
that moved this last year went to good teams that
trusted their run. Games but now you're you're looking at
a circumstance here of you're gonna have a lot of
change and you have all these guys on their rookie wage,
scales which will not be the case for. Long, yep
(01:10:36):
He's Dan. Byer i'll buy carbon, Here Fox sports a.
Radio now let's turn it over to the news desk
as we've got some. Excitement, garris what's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
About christophert was ready for the breaking news in case
we needed.
Speaker 4 (01:10:47):
It, oh they're just colored the same on my, walls
just the wrong.

Speaker 5 (01:11:40):
Lead sinner pulled. Even they went to a tie, break
and just moments ago All kraz had set point in
the fourth set tie. Break here's how it sounded just

brewers scoreless going to the bottom of the third, inning

Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
And The Washington.
Speaker 5 (01:12:57):

taking a lead in the fifth set as the something's
got to give for those that missed It center oh
and five when you get into the fifth hour of,
(01:14:13):
play And alcarezh to eight career when dropping the first two.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
Sets alcarez broke sinners serve in this fifth set to
start it, out so he's currently up a break, up
one love in that fifth. Set but as we've seen
throughout the, match that hasn't necessarily mattered considering the way
that these two have gone back and.
Speaker 1 (01:14:33):
Forth game of, runs no question about. It as we roll,

Speaker 7 (01:16:30):
Right so With vjay's, vote it's it's close to a,
tie not just a, tie but close to a. Tie
So chip number two is still in the lead with
five And chip number one has. Four do you guys
want to get a little.
Speaker 2 (01:16:41):

at the end of the day of what we see
what the other Hosts jones throughout the shows and all,
That but do you do you guys have a guest
before we get into. IT i thought one was this,
okay AND i thought two was the. Chicken, okay, HARMON
(01:17:05):

Really so one was chicken and two was?
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):

Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Right how about that they tasted the.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Same, honestly, hello. BITE i thought one was significantly better
than number.
Speaker 7 (01:17:28):
TWO i think two tasted a little bit more just,
flavorful and then one tasted more like a, pringle AND
i like the pringle.
Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
Flavors said that you could taste the. Broth was THAT i?
Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
SEE i thought One that throws me for. LUCAS i
thought one was the, steak AND i BECAUSE i thought
that tasted like beef bro and the and and two
tasted like chicken.
Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
Broth So i'm, like all, right this is, chicken this is, steak.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
And it was the, opposite the. Opposite they're using beef
broth hereag all?
Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
Right all, right, quickly as we get towards THE Us
open next week at oak we'll have it full coverage
in the morning as we get into the final round of.
That rory and McElroy this week with some comments about
trying to rediscover motivation after completing the Career Grand slam
and then goes out and misses the cut at THE
Rbc Canadian, open and we're watching a very crowded.
Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
Leader.
Speaker 1 (01:18:18):
Boy, yes we've got six guys battling for the, title
but seventy eight in the second, round nine over par
for thirty six holds. CONCERN i like the candor on one, hand,
yes the other part is you still got to go
out and perform you, do so that round didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
Help he's won The Canadian open and in, fact only
four PLAYERS i think that actually finished their. Rounds there
were some players that, withdrew but only four players finished
worse Than rory mcclroy did over those first two. Days
and he says it's obviously concerning going into a test Like.
Oakemont but McElroy said at the beginning of the year
he has three goals left in his, career winning The,
masters winning An olympic gold, medal and winning Another Ryder
(01:18:58):
cup on the. Road so he Won, master so you
would that's now he's down to two goals for the
rest of his. Career you could imagine why there would
be a letdown maybe after THE. Pga you can imagine
maybe why he's not up for THE Us. Open he'll
be up for The Open championship At Port rush in
his home country Of Northern. Ireland it'll be up for
The Ryder. Cup BUT i think you could see this
coming from McIlroy once he won At.
Speaker 1 (01:19:18):
