Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Now, how do we top what we saw last night
in Major League Baseball? Well, we've got plenty of opportunity
to do so, some huge games on the slate as
we begin another week of the National Football League schedule. Yes,
it's near the halfway mark of everything, so lists of
MVPs would be hopeful, Super Bowl runs all of those things.
(00:26):
We'll discuss that in earnest as we get ready for
another big Fox Football Sunday. Here Fox Sports Radio, I'm
Mike Carmon. Hopefully all enjoyed your extra hours sleep if
you had to work through the night. I'm looking squarely
at my colleagues, Brianna and Mark. I should have brought
you large coffees to get you through as we get going.
But we're ready for another big day here Football Action.
(00:47):
Mike Carmon, Greg Cosel forty six years NFL films, The
NFL Matchup show you hear a weekly on the network
with Colin Cowherd one o'clock Eastern time, fifteen to twenty
minutes of film review and then we get to do
it without the video component. But he paints a picture.
He's Bob ross On the airwaves. It's Greg Cosell. How
you do Greg.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Mikey Witch shaken? How is your week in Baltimore? Do
you saw a pretty interesting game that you saw last week?
Coach Baltimore's played another game since, but maybe that game
you saw got him going.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Well, that'll do it. It's funny. I only had one
big interaction with some Ravens fans and it wasn't even
directed at them. It was my brothers and I were
separated by a couple of rows. Just you know, as
you're buying tickets going into a city, you're doing your
best to sit together, but sometimes it becomes a you know,
four and two or three and two kind of three
and three kind of situation. So like yelling. And there
(01:38):
was the one play that is now yielded. I think
it was like a forty six thousand dollars fine that
might have had some importance, a helmet to helmet call
that was not made, probably should have drew a flag.
And so you know, folks get a little animated. Oh
you're desperate. I'm like, that doesn't mean I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
You mean you're not the kind of fan that you're
sits there quietly with your mouth closed and watches the game.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
No, no, no, well, I mean look most of the
time you ask my daughter on her soccer weekends. No
all that, I'm Joe quiet.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
I'm just passed one of those dads. Huh.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Those no, like the referees get paid. They can wear
it a little bit when there's uh, you know, the
usually over a matter of safety. But no, Baltimore was great.
It was my first time at M and T. I
had a great time thanks to my hosts out there
at the radio network. Noah took good care of me.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
They they sweated me out. That was the one thing
I found out in Baltimore, Greg that really just kind
of freaked me out. I took a couple of cabs,
you know, airport to and from the studio whatever else.
Everybody had their their in car temperature at like eighty
five degrees and I could see me. Yeah, so I'm like,
I don't want to fall asleep. I'm going to do
(02:50):
a radio show. Come on work with me. Or it's
it's nice outside?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Why why yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Why why so warm? And you're driving overnight? Why why
so war?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah? You can work up ump you okay, there, you
can work up a little sweat there.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, so you know, I'm working up a lather, but
got into the stadium. Obviously a lot of angst in
the city over the forty eight hours prior to the game.
Right I flew out on Saturday morning, I was all
excited to thinking I'm seeing Lamar Jackson. Right all the
practice reports. Full participant. So that's how I'm now describing
my activity in anything anybody wants me to do. Full
(03:25):
participant means I may or may not show up, but
you're feeling good on the opportunity that maybe got to
do one hundred thousand dollars. How's that dissuade anybody from
playing games with the injury report? Greg, That's all I
want to know. League communication there.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, a little fishy there, but he played Thursday night. Yeah,
we'll get to that.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
That one in a minute. But yeah, last thing on
the stadium. Great stadium, great fans. Talking to a lot
of folks around the city of Baltimore. A lot of
hope for the second half of the year. But I
mean for me, you know, I like the people I
know here in Los Angeles. My homes originally Chicago. Baltimore
had more of that Chicago feel like where all of
a sudden, you're just up next to people in bars
(04:07):
or restaurants and you just strike up up conversation. LA.
That's a little more difficult proposition. You might well bridge
it like with that. You know, if you're all wearing
Dodger gear right now, you might embrace the guy next
to you. But generally it's just a little different feel well.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
I think you know East Coast cities, I think, I mean,
this is a very general statement, but it's probably maybe
with the exception of New York, but I think that Philly, Baltimore, Boston,
I think you get a lot of people who grow
grow up there and stay there. LA is not like that.
LA is a little more transient.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
No, that's it. I think there's something to do with that.
I really was hoping you were going to go fully controversial,
because that I would have opened the phone lines and
we would have seen No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
No, No, I don't don't, don't. I don't do the bold
controversial stuff, you know.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I taking nonsense.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, I don't do thet takes stuff. No, no, no,
I get ripped enough on on social media, you know,
people telling me I don't know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
So I get enough of that, you and me both,
My friend, great coach Selle where you to my Twitter?
Find me over at Swollen Dome. We're just getting warmed
up here at Fox Sports Radio alluded to it. So
I had the game last week. We watched New Huntley
and the Ravens take care of business. You know, for
those that forget two touchdown margin of victory for the Ravens.
(05:19):
Bears started out pretty well on script moving the ball,
but anytime you're settling for field goals, you're destined to lose.
And that's exactly what we saw. Things fall apart second half.
Now Thursday, the return of Lamar Jackson, and he got
to it really early. Lamar rolls out to the right
broth quickly touchdown, Mark Andrews quad call it and they're Ravens.
(05:43):
Deliver it and the Ravens grab their purse lead of
a night in South Florida. There you have it. Andrews
would eventually score two touchdowns. Operational efficiency in the game, Greg,
you had two catches, two touchdowns, Lamar with four overall
a big win. We'll get to the losing side of it,
because that's a whole other kettle of fish, as they
(06:05):
would say. But to start the new week, the return
of Lamar Jackson and overall, you know, making everything work.
And as the second half went on, you know, some
concerns I think early for the fact that Derrick Henry
I think, for a good chunk of the game was
averaging what it would be if he fell forward and
bounced twice. But eventually a couple of big runs break
(06:27):
it through. He finishes the day at you know, a
nice robust what ninety plus yard.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
One hundred nineteen I think nineteen.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, he got to one nineteen because he had a
couple of big runs to close that thing out. Yeah,
pretty five the long but that's just it, right, lean lean, lean,
the Levy breaks to steal.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
You know exactly. By the way, I just want to
acknowledge your pun on the fish and the dolphins. That
was pretty good. I hope people got that. Yeah, yeah,
it was. It was cute.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Yeah, you know, I watched that tape already from Thursday
night and it was a pretty I would say it
was almost a pedestrian kind of game for the offense.
I mean, I know, Lamar threw four touchdowns, but you know,
with the exception of a couple of plays like when
he hit Likely for thirty five yards late in the
first quarter, where he moved to his right, Likely mirrored
him adjusted his route. You know, that was a Lamar
type play. But other than that, I thought it was
(07:17):
just a pretty efficient offensive performance. And you know, I
think the way a lot of teams do play that
have good run games very often. You see them when
they get the lead in the second half, that's when
they turn to the run game. That's when the runs occur.
You know. So there's a lot of backs that gain
yards in the second half of games and it ends
up with a very good looking stat line. But that
(07:38):
was just one of those really kind of efficient performances.
It wasn't a Lamar game the way we think of
a Lamar game.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
No, it's it. He had the one one run for
what was it thirteen yards or fifteen yards or something
like that. That was the only time he really brought
that part of the arsenal out. And part of that
I think you'd be judicious with it. There's no need
to break glass for this.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
No, no, no, I mean a.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Team, and that was pretty evident early on.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
I thought there was some good adjustments by receivers though.
You know I mentioned the likely thirty five yarder. Yeah, yeah,
I thought the Bateman nine yard touchdown and the second
third quarter possession was a really good move by Bateman.
He saw the coverage, stopped his route and worked back
inside to open space and Jackson klined the pocket there
and hit Bateman. And the key was the red zone
(08:27):
because they were four for four in the red zone
in terms of touchdown efficiency. And you know you mentioned
the Bears last week settling for field goals. The Ravens
scored touchdowns, and when you score touchdowns on the red zone,
it just changes the whole game.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, I mean, just watching this one start to flow,
it just became all right, when's it going to break?
He had some weird stuff early on. I don't want
to spend I don't think they deserve a ton of
time at this point punishment on Fox Sports Radio for
bad play because a lot of what's going on Miami
is not tape related. Some of it is a lot
(09:00):
of it.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Well, the way the way they have to play offense. Yeah,
the way they have to play offense is tape related.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
I tell you what, though, that to a throw to
uh Waddle that got wiped out for the tripping call
might have been his best throw of the year.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
No, I don't know. He was wide open. I mean
he was.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Wild, but that's it. He got there.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Yeah yeah, yeah, but no, two yeah, two always has
a couple of throws a game as to what he
has to be. I mean, that's the only way in
which he can play. He started the game he threw
a twenty yard at a Wattle and then there was
another throw to Wattle later in the game, which is
all timing, rhythm, hits, his back foot works between the numbers.
(09:40):
That's who he is. That's the problem with that is
that's the only way they can really play uh and
they're so limited. So you know, it'll be interesting to
see what happens there. But you know, just one quick comment.
I think we have to talk about this Ravens defense. Absolutely,
that's being overlooked. Sure, yeah, that's being overlooked now with
a Lamar back, and Lamar is a great player, that's
(10:02):
not my point. But this defense. Now they've moved Hamilton back,
he's essentially a slot corner box player, overhang player. You know,
since they got Gilman in the trade, he's played three
games at safety with Starks, he pretty much plays every snap,
and Hamilton now has become such a critical piece. I
would almost argue watching their defense that Hamilton and the
(10:23):
two safety Starks and Gilman are the critical players in
the defense with their position versatility, they're multiple responsibilities. But
it's become a very good defense over these last couple
of weeks since they got a lowie Gillman in the
trade with the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Well ball hawking a little bit. You get Rokwan Smith back.
He'd missed a cop out of the games. So suddenly
the front seven with a little more teeth as well,
because I mean we called his name a lot. Looking
just from a box score reading perspective, twelve tackles, nine solo.
It was one of the toes where you're for Rokwan Smith.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
He was there, Oh yeah yeah. And he's a very
good player too. And they're doing some interesting things with
their dime package, which they play essentially on third down
six defensive backs. They have two dime packages. One is
where they play two linebackers. That's where Trenton Simpson comes
in with Smith, but they also play four down linemen
and just Smith that linebacker. So it's a team that
now defensively, I think is kind of feeling its way
(11:18):
and getting to where they want to be. And it's
probably a combination of the return of Smith and the
trade for Gilman allowing Hamilton to be a very versatile,
multi dimensional player, which of course he can do both
physically and mentally.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
No, that's it trying to get this team healthy because
what's interesting and for better force, they still have five
division games. I may talk about schedule watching a little
more than most, but they still have five games in division.
They've only played Cleveland once.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Yeah, and don't forget because Burrow being out, this division
is totally up for grabs. They could easily win this division.
But you know, just doing some research this week, and
then when I watched the tape from last night, not
last night, from Thursday night, the day start to run together.
Actually for me, you know, it's it's week ten. You know,
I have no idea what day it is.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Well, we sent a meal service to your trey under
the door.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Right right. You know, the last three games, Hamilton's played
fifty three snaps in the box and seventy eight snaps
in the slot. So he's essentially a second level defender.
You know, he's not really a safety anymore, a deep
safety as he was a year ago, but he's capable
of doing that, and he's as versatile a player in
the league at what he can do well.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
We look at the odds to your point, they're currently
implied odds sixty percent likely to win the AFC North
as we sit here today. Clearly, the Browns are what
they are. The most exciting thing that's happened for them,
I mean, other than Miles Garrett's Halloween decorations. I mean,
He's had some fantastic performances, but I mean there's not
(12:52):
a lot right about there. I mean Chador going back
and trying to help console his dad in the wake.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
After after another loss last night.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, yeah, that's just ugly in a whole other way. Yeah,
I mean Cincinnati to your point, they'll play the Bears
later on tonight. We'll get into that game as we
move on, and then Pittsburgh is a team that I
had more or less if I were to embody them, say,
in the way of a Batman villain. They're running around
in a giant Riddler costume with a bunch of questions.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Yeah, I mean Pittsburgh's an odd team because who would
have thought that the defense in Pittsburgh. Now we're talking
about Pittsburgh and there you know in their tradition that there,
everybody talks about the Cowboys defense, Mike, but Pittsburgh has
the worst pass defense in the NFL right now in
terms of yards given up on a per game basis,
And who would have thought that. You deal with the
betting part, I don't. I've never made a bet in
(13:43):
my life on any sports, so I have no idea
about that stuff. But I imagine you could have won
a lot of bets by saying that Pittsburgh would have
the worst pass defense in the NFL going into Week ten.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Oh, there's no question about it.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Right.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
You had fools gold for a couple of weeks where
the sack totals piled up. But other than that, it
has been a miss for me, Greg, It's always been.
And there was a time here on the network where
I'd get admonished for bringing up lines or different pieces
of information of that like back in the day, because right, well,
but it informs you know how you look at a
(14:15):
game to a degree. Right when we talk about.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Yeah, I don't live in that world, so I don't
even know. You know, I don't even understand any of
that stuff because I've never done it. You know, when
people say to me, you know, certain phrases that are
part of that world, I don't even know what they mean.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
That's that's not a bad way to live, probably.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
I mean, I don't even know what a prop bed is,
so I don't even I've heard that term a thousand times.
I don't even know what it is. I don't need
to know what it is, but I don't know what
it is.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
I could give you the quick eight second it's literally
all right, we put a line on something that a
player is going a player or a team is going
to do. Right, So we look at based on statistical analysis,
regression analysis, for say a Derrick Henry performance. They may
come to a you know, here's the trends, how they
call plays, here's the defensive trends. All right, we say
(15:03):
we think the number, we set it at seventy six
and a half, and then you bet as to whether
he's going over or under.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Got it? Okay, I'll probably forget that. I'll probably forget
that as soon as we're done with the show.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Is that is okay, there's just a great problem. But
you do that five billion times for every sporting event
known demand out there and roll from there and clearly
it's a part of the business. The Countdown to Kickoff Show,
by the way, presented by BETMGM, will follow us on
the network here a little bit later on every Saturday
Sunday morning, count you down to all the biggest games
(15:36):
three hours right up until kickoff, for all the best
plays up to second, up to the second injury news
one of those key components. Tune into Countdown to Kickoff
presented by BETMGM every Saturday Sunday morning right here on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart App. Yes, take that
iHeartRadio app where you go. It's now the holiday holiday
holiday season, right. We had our Halloween celebrations. Hopefully you
(15:59):
all got out there safe and moved on. And now
the Christmas tree starts to come creeping towards the front
of the line. I got a bunch of Mariah Carrey
ads showing up in my timeline. All I want for Christmas,
So all of that, give people the iHeartRadio App twenty
four to seven, all the best Fox Sports Radio stories
and back and forth and debates not to mention all
(16:19):
the music channels and podcasts that you've known and no
one loves so all of that as we.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Go forward, and I know you have every Mariah Carey
album on vinyl, don't you.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
I may have one or two.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Talk good for you.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Look, well, you know, the kids really loved the vinyl
now like they I.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Know it's back, which makes no sense to me because
the worst thing, obviously I grew up in the era
of vinyl, is the worst thing was going to the
store buying a record, okay, getting home and then finding
out that it's like warped or scratched, which always happens
with vinyl for some reason or another. So you know,
I was happy when the vinyl area ended, but I
guess it's back.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Well, all you know limited releases for a lot of
burtists where it's like, all right, we print this, and
then you have stuff where like when Taylor Swift releases
an album, she does fourteen different versions of it on vinyl,
which means, uh, she subsidizes a lot of bands, Hey
can you print your album a little bit later on?
We kind of need to keep it right right right right,
(17:17):
So you know, they might get off some of their costs.
So try the time it that that she's going to
release an album at the same time, you do. I
met a lot of my friends in college at at
record releases. Those were my favorite.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Oh good, okay in the day.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Yeah, you know, going to when User Illusion one and
two came out, or Ozzy Osbourne's No More Tears. My
first week of college, were standing there like a bunch
of dopes at eleven forty five.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
You a big gun and Roses fan, Were you.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Still still am they still? They still sucker me and
I'm a big Duf Mackagan guy.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
They're they're they're good. They were great.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah, they still get after it. They were out in
Buenos Aires the other day. You know, Duff used to
come in here when Nicky six did his show down
the hall from US and a big Seattle fan, he'd
sometimes just sit in the studio and hang out. So,
you know, just crazy times here at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Well that's good, that's pretty cool stuff.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Yeah, it all ties together. See, it's one big happy
family there you go. Can you all right? We talked
about Pittsburgh briefly. Let's do that in earnest because They've
got a big test today at home one of the
hottest teams rolling, and people are still saying, do I
believe it? Do I believe it? Greg Cosel is going
to tell you why you believe it? At least I
think so next year. On Fox Sports Radio.

Coming away, Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Radio, Fox
Football Sunday. Here Fox Sports Radio, My Carmen alongside Greg
Cosel having a blast with you. Thanks for joining us.
Week nine of your NFL season as we get ready
to roll through what is a monster slate, some huge favorites,
(19:30):
so some mismatches.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
A long the way.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
We got a new quarterback taking over in New Orleans,
but we have a big date in Pittsburgh, greg as
the Indianapolis Colts go in better than a three point favorite.
Fifty one and a half is the total, So the
implication being we're gonna see some fireworks in this one.
A lot of jokes about the usage of that stadium.
(19:53):
It's kind of like the greatness of Soldier Field, And
I say that tongue in cheek. I love the structure,
the field. Maintenance by the city of Chicago usually not
so great, but here we have an opportunity. The Colts
have been rolling along. We talked a lot about Daniel
Jones and his efficiency first down throwing in Jonathan Jill. Yeah,
Jonathan Taylor is already over one thousand total yards for
(20:16):
the season.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Yeah no, And I think you know you mentioned, And
that's one thing that stood out on film right from
the start of the season is just how good they've
been on first down. And first down is such a
critical down. Everybody talks about third down being the money down,
but if you can dominate on first down, and up
to this point in the season, and this is what
we have. We have what are they seven and one,
(20:38):
so we have eight games, this is what we have.
They've been able to win on first down both just
with physicality because their O line is playing extremely well.
And I got to tell you watching Quenton Nelson get
out and pull, I think there's two offensive linemen that
when you watch them get out and pull, you're just
blown away at how big they are and how they
can move like that, and that's Nelson and Trent Williams.
(20:59):
But just watching Nelson get out in front in the
run game and pull is remarkable. So they can win
with physicality in the run game on first down, but
they also win throwing the football on first down. And
this is where Shane Steichen has done such a good
job because Jones has far and away the most first
down passing yards of any quarterback in the league. They've
(21:20):
got the most yards on first down of any offense
in the league. And that is a stat that's very
rarely looked at, Mike, but it's it's in some ways
just as critical as third down.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah, as we look at it going I mean only
nine sacks allowed this year, averaging eight point five yards
per attempt. So you're looking at the distribution over the
course of the year. I mean, your yardage leader is
Tyler Warren. He's got a forty six yard edge over
Michael Pittman Junior. And then you've got the big play
threat twenty one yards per reception of m Pierce Pierce. Yeah.
(21:55):
So I mean you go on down the line distributing
the football well, defense is played. Well. You know, some
want to hang a star on the schedule, and I say,
you can only beat who's on the schedule. Yeah, and
then we get some popcorn and we watch what comes next.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Look, I don't think anybody believe they're going to end
up sixteen in one. That's not the point. The point
is how they're playing right now. And I'm glad you
mentioned Alec Pierce because you know, one of the things
you always notice as you watch tape, and obviously I've
seen every game that the Colts have played this year,
is you start to see some subtle adjustments. And one
of the things that's really stood out is they're beginning
to use Pierce as what we call their boundary X,
(22:29):
their single receiver to the short side of the field.
That receiver tends to get a lot of one on
one matchups that you have to win, and you can
win multiple ways. There's different kinds of boundary X receivers,
but Pierce has that vertical ability. You know. It's crazy.
I think Pierce was in the same draft. Does memory
serve me correctly? We see in the same draft as
Chris Olave.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
I think he was so twenty twenty two was Pierce's.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Yeah, And I think that was a Lave too, and
I remember feeling that. And again up to this point
people probably think, oh, oh, you know, a Lave. And
unfortunately Alave has had some injuries the multiple concussions a
year ago. But I thought Pierce was a really good
prospect and not really that much far behind a Lave
as a prospect coming out of the University of Cincinnati.
(23:15):
And now it's interesting to me that they're starting to
use him at that boundary X because Pittman is much
more of kind of the movement receiver, and that's the
Z that's the receiver that lines up off the ball
or in the slot. You can move him, put him
in motion, and so I think they're finding out how
to best deploy their their receivers and change. Steichen's doing
(23:36):
a really good job with that.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Lave the eleventh picking that draft People went fifty third
overall to the c Yes in the second round. Thank
you Brianna for the the check, our executive producer.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
I hope Brianna is not upset with me that I
like Pierce almost as much as a lave. But you
know that that was my thought when I watched both
on tape coming out.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
I'm still hurt that you like Tyler Shock more than
Spencer Ratler. I'm still getting over that though. It's fine.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Well, I guess we're going to find out, Brian, aren't
we Yes, we are. We're going to find out.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
A couple of short hours just down the road here,
the Rams hosting the Saints YEP is one of your
later games. So that's one that we'll all kind of
pay attention to.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Well, Brianna for sure, Brianna, for sure.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
She's gonna be locked in. I think she'll be napping
by that. It's been a lot because remember the extra
hour they were on air, So the extra hour while
the Will the rest of us were in our golden slumbers.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
It's easier to cry when you're sleeping, right, so that'll
be good.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Nobody can hear you scream in space and most of
the time you're not screaming in your sleep, we hope.
As we look at this though, I mean with the
Colts and what they've been able to do. Yeah, and
Pierce was one of those guys that has appeared on
my what I call the ninja list, i e. He's
kind of hiding in the shadows for fantasy processes and
then all of a sudden you get the big explosive play.
(24:55):
Only eighteen catches on the year. He's had a little
bit of a health issue.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
He missed a couple of games. Yeah, but a.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Guy that gives them that extra element and look, you
can pull the strings right now. Shane Stikeen's got to
be laughing as he sits with the riches that are
available to him, with that deep receiving corps and Jonathan
Taylor helping to run the machine.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
No question, and it's been kind of a fun offense
to watch because Shane Stikeen does a really good job.
You know. You mentioned the fact that Jones has only
been sacked nine times, and the other thing that really
stands out when you watch their pass game, is how
decisive Jones has been getting rid of the football. He
rarely gets stuck in the pocket. He has somewhere to
go with the ball. You know, every play doesn't have
(25:37):
to be a big play. And I think that's one
thing you really have to get through to quarterbacks that
depending on down in distance, you know, sometimes there's nothing
wrong with taking a six yard completion. You know, that's okay.
And I think that Jones has you know, and he's
a very smart guy. He's understood that. And they just look,
they've been in the red zone. I don't have the
number in front of me, but they've been in the
red zone more than any team in the league by
(25:59):
a wide margin. Just think about that. They move the football,
they get into the red zone, and they score touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yeah, we've talked about operational efficiency, right, not settling for goals,
taking care of your business. For Jones, obviously, the ability
to run. Folks will always remember him tripping over his
own feet on what would have been a great, great,
big run. But the aptitude and opportunities are certainly there.
Let's go to the other side of things when we
talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers. We talked about the WOLFL
(26:28):
back seven and the pass rush has been grossly inefficient
and inconsistent over the course of the year. Greg they
had three games where they had five sacks. Otherwise you
got a lot of empty stat sheets, no calories to
be consumed there. And for Aaron Rodgers, they're not really
pushing the ball down the field seven point two yards
per attempt. But you're not looking at you know, big plays.
(26:50):
Dk Metcalf to this point twenty seven catches four hundred
and sixty one yards. He's got seventeen yards to catch.
But other than that, your next leading receiver's Friarmooth and
he did most of his damage in one game.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Yeah, and even Metcalf's he's not really been a consistent
factor in the Steelers offense. Uh and and their passing game,
and you nailed it with the statue mentioned, but they're
reflective of the tape, and the tape shows Mike that
this passing game is much more limited than expansive. It's condensed.
It really doesn't have any significant intermediate or vertical dimension.
(27:22):
They're they're a difficult offense to watch now. They run
the ball, and they've been running it reasonably well because
they play a lot of big people, they play a
lot of tight yeah, and they play with six offensive
linemen quite a bit. They're among the league leaders in
that area. So they run the ball and they're pretty
good at it. But there's really the pass game has
(27:45):
been very, very limited. And uh, the run game is
fine if you have a really good defense, but obviously
they don't, so those two things aren't really working together.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Yeah. Jalen Warren's been much better, I think than we
would have answer spended, usually a guy that's known as
the pass catcher, but averaging four point five yards to carry,
he's done a good job there. He's their third leading
receiver to that point. But for Aaron Rodgers averaging about
two hundred and twenty yards per game, the explosives are
not there, and as we know in today's game, Greg, look,
(28:19):
I love a long protracted drive as much as anybody,
but the longer you try to pull that off, what happens,
false start holding battle and all of a sudden you're
settling for those fifty yard field walk.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
They're just not getting explosive plays. You mentioned Warren. He's
got eighty three rushes this year. Okay, only nine of
them have been ten yards or more, and that's very,
very low relative to the rest of the league. So
you can talk about the run game, and while it
looks relatively consistent, there's still no explosive plays. And it's
(28:50):
just as you've mentioned, it's just so hard to play
that way.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Yeah, playing you've got to play perfect football at that point,
right when the expected yard per play dips and you
don't have the explosives. You know, Roman Wilson shows up
on a box score and on the screen once in
a great while. Sure, John H. Smith, you know, the
other pass catching tight end. He's got twenty two catches,
but just for one hundred and thirty four yards. It's
(29:15):
a move the chains, which again, yes, it's better than
the alternative right grind and eventually maybe something breaks, but
they don't have that sledgehammer no, to make that happen.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
They don't. And as we said, Metcalf, you know, even
though he's capable at any time, he's not really presented
in their offense. Is kind of a featured receiver, you know,
And I'm not suggesting that they should just give him,
you know, fifteen targets every game and just you know,
just feed and feed and feed him. But I think
he needs to be more involved in the pass game now.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
One of the games that we mentioned obleikly, I mean,
Breon are our producer and her fandom of the New
Orleans Saints. Not that we want to give this a
bunch time, but we got a quick minute here. Tyler Schuck,
what are you expecting to see? What do you see
on tape coming out of the draft. I mean, obviously
I like to make fun of his age, but it's like,
I don't care if the guy could throw a football.
(30:06):
He could throw a football.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Oh I wish I was his age then that would
be great. Yeah. Yeah, I liked Tyler Shuck's tape coming
out of college a lot. I thought his tape was
the second best quarterback tape after cam Ward, So I
was not surprised where he was drafted. He's a very
mature guy because he's not a kid anymore. You know,
when he's played this year, everything's been quick, get rid
(30:28):
of the ball. Obviously, now that you that he's the starter,
it can't be just that. I'm very anxious. I truly
don't know what to expect. Obviously, they're not a very
good team overall. So you never know when you play
a young an inexperienced quarterback. He's not young an inexperienced quarterback,
what that ultimately means, just because there's so many factors
that go into how you then have to call the game,
(30:50):
what he's asked to do based on the flow of
the game. We don't know any of those things. I mean,
if he's forced to drop back forty times or forty
five times based on the flow of the game, he's
not likely to have a great game. And then people
might say, well, he's not very good, But that's not
the case at all. We wouldn't know that. So I'm
just anxious to see if they can hang with the Rams,
and we have a game in the third or fourth quarter,
(31:10):
we'll get a better reading on Chuck. But of course,
there's no definitive statement, Mike, we can make about Chuck
after one game, no matter what he does.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
No, and we're looking at a game, you know, and
again to just kind of inform the narrative, fourteen and
a half point home favorites. We don't see lines like
that very often in the National Football League. The curious
thing swirling in the background and we haven't mentioned it
yet this morning, is that we are just a few
hours away from the trade deadline. We get yes days
(31:39):
and the Saints are one of those teams that some
reports from Ian Rapaport and others that Alvin Kamara Rashid
Shahed are expected to play. Both were on the injury report,
but both expected to play. But we're going to find
out from some of these teams towards the bottom pretty
fast what their motivations are well, because of those early sets.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Ultimately, team like that need they need players, so they
want draft picks. That's what they want. And look, I
don't know what Camaro would get. He's an older back.
He's not going to get a high pick, a second
or third round pick. Sah, he's not either. He's a
certain kind of player, he's good at it. But that's
what teams. I think the Titans are looking to do
the same thing. These teams are just looking for draft
(32:20):
picks because they need players. They're not one player away,
you know, they need players. So that's why teams do this.
And a lot of fans, I'm sure can't stand it
because they get rid of you know, quote unquote good players.
But it's not likely, and I loved Alvin Kamara. I
think he's been a great, great player, but it's not
likely if the Saints are to get good in the
next year or two, that's he's going to be there anyway,
(32:42):
just because of his age and his deployment and the
tread on his tire. So you're just looking for bodies now.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
One hell of a career and a guy that you know,
he was part of that famous Trubisky Mahomes deal in
terms of how draft picks ended up getting confirmed around
and you know, folks can always talk about that quarterback thing.
I think it's a terrible argument that hindsight is always
twenty twelve, of course, but that lead that never never
(33:09):
let that get in a way of a good.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
No, no, everybody. Hey, I always say, Mike, everybody's a
genius when you have access to the result.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
That's it. And you know, I've got my Biff Tannin's
encyclopedia out of back to that.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, I'm always but yeah, everybody.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Mara there and and Fred Warner there obviously in San Francisco.
We'll talk about the forty nine ers a little bit
more next hour. Obviously he's on the shelf right now
emotional support from a skybox, but you know those were
parts of the trade. Camaro's had a fantastic career. I
know he expressed interest in wanting to finish his career
as a saint, but he's also a realist. I think
(33:44):
he'd like one more crack at, you know, winning before
he national. Yeah, so you know all that to say,
we could make for an interesting day as we watch
injury reports come down from a lot of teams Miami
that played on Thursday. They fired crew. I don't think
that's the end of what they do. The next forty
eight hours will be interesting there as well. But we'll
(34:06):
keep it all. I'll keep you apprized of all of
it as we roll on here. It's Fox Sports Radio. Hey,
remember with the iHeartRadio apps, stream us wherever you happen
to be, catch all of our Fox Sports Radio shows
live twenty four to seven. It's the new and improved
iHeart Radio app. Search Fox Sports Radio in the app,

your presets so it'll always pop up at the top
(34:28):
of your screen. He's Greg gosel. I'm Mike Harmon. As
we continue here, it's Fox Football Sunday. Yeah, the game
of the day, another battle between Mahomes and Allen depending
on where you're at good and evil. Let's keep going
with the Halloween theme as we roll through. It's Fox
Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, welcome back and
Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. A game that will
(34:51):
get started here in a minute, but it's a much
bigger conversation because we've got talk. We're talking favorites, we're
talking rising stars, et cetera. As we continue here, Fox
Football Sunday, Week nine, Mike Harmon, Greg co Cell with
you here at Swollen Dome, at Greg co Cell where
you find us and Greg. I mean, look, it doesn't
get any bigger than the latest iteration of Kansas City
(35:14):
and Buffalo. Every seems every year we get at least
one of these treats on the schedule. And first off,
you know, rising from the ashes, always left for dead.
Let's hear a little Patrick Mahomes. Can we Mahomes in
the pocket pump faking twice?
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Does it?
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Lake Todd plus side Rice Angling touchdown Chansas City at
eighteen yard touchdown.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Pass, Welcome back Rashie Rice two games back, two big
important opportunities for fantasy owners, and certainly for that offense
to take on a whole other shape. Every year, it
seems the last couple Greg ever since they got rid
of Tyreek Hill, everybody like, oh, I don't know how
good they are because it doesn't look the same, it's
(35:58):
not the same explosiveness. But there they are right in
the mix. Left for dead rising again and Rashi Rice
bringing another elements of that game.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
And you know what, I think Mahomes can play even
better than he's playing now. I really do. We know
he's as good as any quarterback creating positive plays both
when there are is not a lot there, and he
has the best spatial awareness of any quarterback in the game,
maybe as good as you've ever seen. And he's got
what one might call fighter pilot's vision when he's outside
(36:27):
the pocket. But I think that against the Commanders that
he missed some opportunities within the sche manics of the
passing game, but he can compensate for that, Mike with
his high level outside of structure ability. But I actually
think he can play even better, and we've seen him
play better in his career, but he's so difficult to
defend just because he has that feel for space and
(36:50):
his vision and that makes him really difficult. And the
reality is the Bills are scuffling a bit on defense.
They're missing some key players, although I do think that
get Milano and Bernard back this week if I read
that correctly. It's a shame Shaq Thompson is out because
he's played extremely well for them, but they don't really
(37:10):
have a big time pass rush. It'll be interesting. They've
played Mahomes pretty well. This is the tenth meeting in
the Mahomes Allen era, and the Bills for the most part,
have played them pretty well. But the games tend to
be high scoring, and there's a lot we could talk
about with the Bills offense. We'll get to that momentarily,
but jump in here.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Yeah, we'll get the Bill's offense on the other side.
As we get into our two here. Greg will stick
with with just the Chiefs, but Checko not going to
be available. It's becomes Kareem Hunt and Bershard Smith. We've
talked about a bunch at Oliver. Obviously the biceps in injury.
He's out on the defensive side. So ye, they're still scrambling,
and I would imagine they'll be active here in these
(37:50):
next forty eight hours, trying to find some help perhaps
on both sides of the ball before the Chiefs. When
we look at Patrick Mahomes, and here's the one to
one comparison, because this is always fun, two hundred and
eighty rushing yards for him this year, he's actually got
nineteen more rushing yards than Josh Allen. Take that. Things
you well, you'd never see.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Here, right, I mean early in the season, he was
running quite a bit, and again we don't know the
reason for that. People you know, always say offensive line
receivers aren't good. You know, there's all kinds of reasons.
We don't really know the answer to that question. You know.
I think Mahomes is a guy that if there's not
a lot of quick throws, I think he does look
to move and he's always been like that, and he's
(38:32):
so good at moving that, you know, we lose sight
of that. But I don't think that ultimately Andy Reid
would like him to play that way. So we'll see.
But but he's very very difficult to defend. We know that,
and the Bills don't really have a big time pass
for us, so we'll see how they choose to go
about or whether they spy him. A lot of teams
have been spying Mahomes, but of course that takes a
(38:54):
player out of coverage. There have been teams that have
spied Mahomes and the spy has been ineffective. There's other
times so the spy has been effective. We'll see what
Sean McDermot chooses to do with this iteration of Mahomes.
Every year is a different year.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
No question. Fifty two and a half is the total
in this one. The Chiefs a narrow road favorite Kelsey,
you're leading receiver with thirty seven catches, four hundred and
seventy four yards. Hollywood Brown is next to thirty two,
and then you've got Taekwon Thornton who's been their big
play guy twenty two yards per reception for him. So
you add Rashi Rice back to the mix. It's a
(39:29):
bit of a pick your poison. But for the Chiefs,
it seems to me that they've now embodied a lot
of what those Tom Brady Patriots teams were. Look September,
we're learning we just need to be healthy and ready
to go for the second half of the year because
we're going to be.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
In the mix, you know, and I've talked to people
who were with the Chiefs that I know well, and
you know, one thing about Mahomes is they say throughout
the course of the season they have to sort of
get him back on track, which for people who you
know and obviously Mahomes is great, people think, oh, you're crazy. Well,
that's what people in the building say, because he tends
to sort to lose his fundamental discipline at times. And
(40:02):
that's one of the reasons he's Mahomes because he can
do these things that other people can outside of structure.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
That's it. You make up for it, and you always
think you can make that next throw. Two hundred and
sixty two yards per game, seventeen touchdown, four picks thus far.
Hour two coming up next, great coach selling me, Mike
Carbon let's go.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Greedys and welcome in hour two of the program. Jacked
up to be with you. I'bout have gotten an extra
half hour of sleep. Of course, I didn't go to
sleep for a long time after that thriller Game seven,
Dodgers over the Blue Jays in case you fell asleep, Yeah,
you missed the thriller as that one goes into extra
innings before going into the good night. That Yamabodo guy
(40:45):
kind of a big deal, and folks were protecting a
lot of tweets that mocked his signing a couple of
years ago. But here we are, we baseball season officially
gone and in the rearview mirrors parade on Monday here
in Last Angels, Maybe I'll go to a parade. Actually no,
I don't really like parades, but we do love the
parade of games we've got later on today. That was
(41:07):
a decent broadcasting transition. Mike Carbon Greg co sell with
you here for another hour of fun as we get
you ready for Week nine of the National Football League season. Greg,
I look at the slate and I've got about it's
a coin flip. Look, I celebrate all two seventy two,
but let's face it, some aerre greater than others. We've
got some really good and interesting games on this slate,
(41:28):
and there are some that it's like, all right, I
might have a few questions about, but they're probably going
to be on the small box television that has like
four games together.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
Yeah, I think you know, we finished by talking about
the Chiefs, so I think we just do have to
say something about the Bills.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
No, we're coming back to them. That was just a
welcome back hour two. Yeah, aget, it just just formatics.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Yeah, because this game, as most people know, when this
game is on the schedule, I think it's probably viewed
as the game of the of the year in the
regular season. So you know, they've played great games against
one another.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Yeah, no question about it. This is one where when
we look at the history, Josh Allen's had to be
superman oftentimes to where the passing attempts goes north of forty.
As we go, let's hit the rewind button in to
hear a little Josh Allen if we can at work.
Ali gonna work from the shotgun.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
Here two receivers to the right, one to the left,
and now shavers in motion right to left.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Here's the snap back to pass.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
Quick hitter.
Speaker 5 (42:26):
Shakir spins away from the defender. He's up the sideline
thirty five thirty down to the twenty good to back
fifteen ten five touchdown.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
Kalil Shakir Old reliable goes fifty four yards to the
end zone, touchdown.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
Buffalo Old reliable, They're leading receiver. He's got thirty one
receptions thus far, averaging eleven point five per reception. But
a big play for Allen there, and he is the
go to guy when they need to move the sticks
or find a big play thus far.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Chris Brown the play by play there for the Brown
for Bills Radio Nice. This is going to be interesting
the Bills. You know, their offense has not been as
consistent this year. Their past game is not that detailed,
and in my view anyway, just based on tape, I
think that this is very much going to have to
(43:22):
be a Joe Brady game. The history of this series,
as you said, and you're correct, is that Josh Allen's
going to have to throw the ball. Yes, they're going
to try to run it, no question, that's foundationally how
they would really like their offense to start. But I
don't think, again just tape study, this is my view
based on if I was game planning this for the Bills,
(43:44):
I don't think they're going to win this game. Playing
a lot out of twenty one and twenty two personnel
with the fullback Gilliam on the field and That's what
they did a lot last week against the Panthers, where
obviously they had big rushing numbers and Cook grand for
two sixteen. Now I'm not suggesting that you ignore Cook,
and obviously they would like him to be a big
factor in the game, and he can break one any time, Mike,
(44:06):
as you know. But I think this has to be
more of a pass game, and so it's incumbent. Two
things have to happen. Joe Brady has to really design
some concepts that define the reeds and the throws for
Josh Allen quickly. That's what good coordinators do in the
pass game. And I will say this about Josh Allen,
and there's no question he's a great football player, but
(44:26):
the last couple of weeks, he's been playing a little fast.
He's been leaving the pocket prematurely when there's been no pressure.
He's turning too many plays into random improvisations with little
calculation and control. And I think he needs to settle
down and let the pass game, which ideally is going
to present him with some things, let it work for him.
(44:47):
Let him go through the process and deliver the football.
Now they've done that well when they played the Chiefs,
by the way, So that's something we've seen them do
and they did this very well for most of last season.
But he's going to need to do that in today's game.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
It's gonna be curious to watch, right because you've got
a number two defense, scoring defense in the game in
Kansas City, yep. As to how they get after it.
And look, you're not beating this team settling for field goals.
We've done established that as a general rule, but certainly
against this team that averages nearly twenty seven points the
game themselves. But for Josh Allen and company, it just
(45:22):
comes back to it. And I like Shakira as a receiver,
Coleman pops up on occasion, and Kincaid when he's in
the lineup has been a difference maker greg But overall,
you don't have that number one. And again it's maybe
I harp on it too much, but when you're trying
to compete and get past the top level, that go
(45:42):
to hey, I can throw it up and they're gonna
win the fifty to fifty ball.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
But that's not a factor against zone. That's a factor
against man. And there's no question the Chiefs play a
good amount of man, they will spy. This is something
they will do. They c speG Nola does believe in that.
So you might see them play man and spy. Because
there's no question that the Bills receivers are not great
winning one on one. They don't have those guys. But again,
(46:07):
zone and the Bill and the Chiefs have shown in
this series while Steve Spagnola has been the DC that
they play about the same percentage of man and zone.
So when it's zone, that's where the concepts and the
combinations have to win. And that's where you have to
present Josh Allen with clean throws. But Steve Spagnolo, I
guarantee will show him pressure. Now again that doesn't mean
(46:29):
he's going to start rushing five and six, but the
way Josh is playing now, Steve Spagnola's going to show
him pressure and see if he's going to break down.
Because those plays that Alan can make that are absolutely special,
just like Mahomes, he hasn't made them as much this season.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
See if you can't get him off schedule a little bit,
as you said, play it a bit faster. We've seen
the run to pass percentage Bill's highest in the league
that way, and yeab Cook has obviously been phenomenal in
several of these games. Last week with his two hundred
and sixteen but four one hundred yard games on the
year already, he averages six yards of pop as well.
(47:07):
The big explosive play could be no question, just the
next one, right. I think of the the backs growing
up that you'd watch, you know, default to Barry Sanders
because it was always fun to watch the chess match
of when he was going to find his angle, right,
He's like, for the lack of a better pop culture reference,
in the original Jurassic Park where the raptors are testing
(47:28):
the fences for weaknesses. That was how I always felt
Barry Sanders was that eventually he was going to break
through for the seventy five yard score.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
Yeah. I mean, I'm not a good, you know, prognosticator
so to speak, but I'd be surprised if the Bills
control the pace and tempo of the game by running
the football. Maybe they will, but that would surprise me absolutely.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
And he's and for all the rushing attempts, right, they
have an overutilized Cook. I mean, he got paid and
all that. Fine, Normally it's the how do we work
this and he doesn't have one of those thirty carry games.
I don't suspect this is one. I agree with you
one hundred percent. I think it's going to be Josh
Allen needing to make big plays. So we'll see which
(48:12):
of these receivers steps up downfield. Now, another game that
is really interesting to me as we look at this
slate greg is the Houston Houston game against Denver. Houston
a slight favorite at home. Forty and a half is
the total in this one. But CJ. Stroud a guy
much moreligned that offensive line. We've talked about a lot,
(48:34):
but boy, this is a game where the defenses are
really going to be focused.
Speaker 3 (48:39):
Here.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
No Patrick Certan for Denver, which may afford some opportunities
for Nico Collins company downfield.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
Yeah, it well could. Now. Stroud probably played his best
game in quite a while last week against a forty
nine or defense that does not truly have a good
pass rusher in their four man d Lion and Robert
Salad really increased his blitz percentage against Stroud last week
and it didn't really work out. The secondary didn't really
hold up particularly well. They played a lot of off
(49:08):
coverage when they blitzed, which gave Stroud some clean quick looks.
But he played really really well last week. Different animal
this week. I mean, you're facing a Broncos defense, a
defensive front that can beat you one on one. The
term we often use is they gap you out, meaning
they show a lot of five man fronts. So the
protection is what we call five to zero protection, meaning
(49:31):
it's five on five. It's man to man one on
one protection. But Vance Joseph's been doing this a long
time and he's also very very good with his selective
pressure concepts. And this O line for the Texans is
not great and you will see that. So the question
is how do they handle Nico Collins? Because Nico Collins
is that boundary X, that single receiver who can win
(49:53):
one on one against pretty much everybody, and without certain
out there, then that becomes potentially an issue.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
Now, let's here Gheit the rewind button to hear one
of the other receivers. Want to see what you think
about his potential to make a difference today.
Speaker 5 (50:07):
Third and seven at the San Francisco thirty. Here's pressure
CJ over the middle caught fifty ten five hit the
episode Rock and Roll Touchdown Houston, who is on a
play to Exavier hotshon cent who X.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Marks the spot. There you go, a great call on
the Texans Radio network. Xavier Hutchinson, third year man out
of Iowa State, our guy Iowa Sam is now on
the ones into our technical producer. He goes Iowa State guy.
So little celebration there, but expecting him, Higgins and somebody
to step up alongside Nico Collins. Perhaps Hutchinson can become
(50:47):
that guy.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
Well, they've got three Iowa State guys, you know, and
Noel Yeah, no, obviously Collins is a big time player,
went healthy. That was a big time play by Stroud
actually because he had Michel Williams right in his face.
That's the kind of play he made as a rookie
two years ago when many of us thought, you know,
he'd be on his way to being a top five
or six quarterback in the league. But they do have receivers. Look,
(51:12):
they've drafted guys. Higgins was a second round pick, and
I really like Higgins coming out of Iowa State, and
he's he caught a touchdown last week as well. But
I think this is going to be more on Stroud
and his ability to make throws from squeezed pockets, which
is something that he's shown he can do. Hasn't done
as well this year until last week, and even last
(51:34):
year didn't do it as well. But the key question
here is how does Sir Tan's absence impact how vance
Joseph will play on the back end because they do
play a lot of man to man coverage cover one.
Will that change with Sir Tan out? Will he go
to Morizone?
Speaker 2 (51:51):
Conversely, we look at the Houston defense, one of the
top rated yes going in the game. They're giving up
fourteen point seven points per game. That's the best in
the NASH Football League. Denver coming in at number five,
just a shade underneath nineteen points per game. But we've
seen the inconsistencies in the in the Denver game overall. Now,
the last two weeks have been huge output outpouring of points.
(52:15):
Go back to that crazy game against the Giants and
then obviously I think the four of us and seven
of our friends could score a couple of points against
Dallas if we call the right play golf. Now, well,
they're all still professionals, and I love that all right
right now now we are we you know it wouldn't be,
you know, a little tongue in cheek.
Speaker 3 (52:35):
They all have mothers. Now, come on now.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
I'm mom. Celebrate the moms. That's right, I'll get an
angry email at swollen dumb. I'll take it as we
roll through. But for that Houston defense as well, they
take away the perimeter very well. How does bow Nix
navigate this one?
Speaker 3 (52:50):
Yeah? This is also a really tough matchup because you know,
they're another team that can win one on one with
their pass rush. I mean, Will Anderson is as good
as there is in the league at we call speed
to power, where he just generates some some velocity off
the snap and can just get inside of offensive tackles.
And he'll be going up against Mike mcglinchy at right tackle.
(53:11):
McGlinchey at times struggles in one on one pass pro.
That'll be a very interesting matchup to watch. This is
a really good defense. Now they play Jalen Petrie as
essentially their their slot, their nickel corner, and he's an
interesting player. And I guess the way there's Demico Ryans
has to know. Of course he knows, he knows more
(53:31):
than I do about his defense, certainly, but you know,
Petrie is a guy that I always felt you could attack,
but he never really gets exposed in their coverage schemes,
and they do play some man. They're not a heavy,
heavy man defense, but they will play man, and I've
always felt you could go after Petrie, but it just
doesn't seem to work out that way within the context
(53:52):
of their defense. But Bone Nicks has sort of had
an uneven year, but he's been better recently. But of course,
the last game was against Dalla, and as you said,
you know a lot of people have done well against Dallas,
so I'm not sure how much we take away from
that game, you know, tactically, but Nicks is incrementally improved
this year. And surprisingly they've run the ball very, very well. JK.
(54:15):
Dobbins is among the league leaders in rushing by the way.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
Yeah, averaging five point three yards per carry. He's been fantastic.
Now you got R. J. Harvey smelling him, and he's
leaking out as a receiver out of the backfield. Fantasy
owners are really salty though, Greg he's vulturing all the
touchdown opportunities from Dobbins. But look, that's not Sean Payton's concerned.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
No, he's probably not concerned about fans, not so much ball, but.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
He might send you a nice note and thank you
for your interest.
Speaker 3 (54:43):
But Dobbins, you know Dobbins is he's third in the
league in rushing. And the other thing too, is they're
getting big plays in the run game. He's got the
second most ten plus yard rushes in the league. So
they're running the ball, you know, not just for a
sustaining element, which they are, but they're also getting some
big plays out of their run game. So this is
going to be a fascinating matchup on that side of
the ball.
Speaker 2 (55:03):
One of those guys I celebrate for the fact that
he just keeps battling, right how many season ending injuries
every time we see a flash and then he's gone.
So hopefully he's able to sustain this success and keep
it going, because it's been fun to watch as this
Denver offense tries to take its next step forward. Franklin
Mims Ingram the next receivers on the list for bo Nicks,
(55:25):
completing about sixty three percent of his pass attempts. This
is one of the games to watch. I know it.
The forty point five over under number might scare some
people away. It's okay to watch defensive football every now
and again, folks. It doesn't all have to be highlight reel.
Like Adam Silver says, his NBA is right.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
Right now, and this is one of those games. It's again,
you never know how games play out because you can
never count on turnovers. You don't know. But if you
just look at this game, quote unquote, on paper, this
doesn't seem like it's going to be a thirty five
to thirty game.
Speaker 2 (55:54):
Big opportunity for Houston though, as we know, the division
is still there to be had in the second half
of this season, so we'll keep an eye on that.
At Greg Cosell, where you find him forty six years
NFL film the NFL Matchup Show, and he joins our
Colin Cowherd on the network one o'clock Eastern time every
Thursday afternoon. You want to dial that up fifteen to
twenty minutes of video accompaniment as he breaks down film
(56:18):
as only he can. And we're blessed to get him
every week on Sundays for two hours, chopping up over
all of these good things. I like that speed, you know,
power to speed or speed to power power, speed to
power because that reminds me of the old nineteen sixty
six Batman series Atomic Battery, to Power, Turbine, to speed Go.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
Wait, you're talking about the one with Adam West.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
Yeah, that's right, that one.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
The one with where they put up Bam wham and
all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (56:44):
You got it?
Speaker 3 (56:45):
Oh yeah, I love that. I love you.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
That's that's my wheelhouse right there. It's all Batman, pure West,
Adam West. That was great show legend. I wish they
could have had that go on for many many years.
And I love the tails that had come out. They
did a museum thing here at one of the things
in Hollywood where they assembled several thousand pieces of memorabilia.
(57:07):
And you think Kiss sold a lot of stuff with
their logo on it. No, Batman did. Okay, Oh I'm
sure Batman matchboks and lighters and stuff. They were everywhere.
So it's all good things, all right. I had Greg
gozet where you find and find me over at Swollen
Do and we continue our slate lookover of the National
Football League Week nine, Big Monday Night Affair, Who's quarterbacking?
(57:29):
What's going on there? And can Dallas make a run?
Question Mark? We'll talk about it next here on Fox.

Welcome back in Fox Sports Radio, Fox Football Sunday, Mike
Carbon alongside Greg CoSeal. Thanks for being with us, hanging
out with us a little bit wherever you are on

(58:10):
of coffee, reading the newspaper because people still do that.
Maybe it's just the online version, whatever the case may be.
Walking the Dog two Front Services. Thanks for being part

as you're at traverse the world, take us with you
on the iHeartRadio app globally. And if you are on
the iHeart app, please do check in at swollen home.
(58:31):
Let us know where you're listening from. We'd like to
put the little virtual pins on the map as we
go through. Greg Monday Night Football another one of these questions.
We talked about it a little bit earlier with the
Lamar Jackson situation of a week ago looks like Arizona
maybe in the gamesmanship at the quarterback position. Jacoby Burssett
(58:52):
slash Kyler Murray. Now we're here, we're probably gonna see
a little bit of Kyler Murray. Fifty three and a
half is the total. This one explosive all around, because
we've watched this Dallas team for better for we're still
looking for a pass rusher or two. Jerry Jones in
between business meetings where he got criticized for talking well,
(59:13):
talking about the other business that he operates, that he
gets after it. But for Dak Prescott in that offense,
it's just been humming on a whole other level all
season long.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
Oh for sure. I mean, you know, at the bottom line, though,
it's so hard to play that way when you know
you have to score thirty every week, and this offense
has played very, very well. The run game element has
been something that was probably unexpected when the season started.
No one knew exactly where Deavonte Williams was in his career,
but he's another guy that's among the league leaders in
rushing yardage, and he has some real big boy runs.
(59:46):
I mean, he's a powerful man and he's done very well.
But they've got the perfect situation with their receiving Cort.
They've got the dimensions you want. You know, every team
when you talk about receiving, you want to mention what
I mean by that is you want someone who can
win vertically. You want to be able to work the
intermediate areas, you want the short game. You want all
dimensions to your pass game. Picking certainly gives you a
(01:00:08):
vertical dimension. He is a quintessential boundary X and we've
talked about that how important that is. There's many coaches
who believe you can't really have a complete pass game
and unless you have a true boundary X receiver, and
then that allows CJ. Cde Lamb to be kind of
what he's best at, which is a movement guy. You
get him lining up in multiple locations within your formation,
(01:00:32):
different splits, put him in motion, gets free access. He
can work all levels as well. He's not a true burner,
but he's such a good route runner that he can
win vertically just because he knows how to win and
create separation. So they really have and they've got a
very good tight end who's not talked about a lot
in Ferguson. So they've got every dimension you want in
(01:00:52):
the pass game.
Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
Ferguson a guy that they went and they re uped
at big money. That was Yeah, he got a lot
of incoming because of what end up transpiring with Michael
Harsons going. He paid this tight end on. No, he's
actually kind of important to both ends of what they
want to do offensively in the run game and certainly
as a pass catcher. One of their leaders over the
course of the year. Greg.
Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
So, yeah, and just one quick point on the other side,
I know Arizona's probably not super compelling right now. And
what you said, is Kyler Murray do to play? I
thought he was out for him.
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
No, they said that Brissette's gonna start, Oh okay, but
that Murray will will show up, which gets us send
too some of those you know, weasel words and handwringing
about how we're doing injury reports and whatever else and everything.
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
But what I was going to say is this, And
again I'm not in the building. I don't know what
they do on a week two week basis, so and
people who listen to me know I do not rip coaches.
I just don't do that. I have too much respect.
I've been fortunate in my career to be in meetings
with you know all that, so I don't I don't
get into that because I know what they do and
and now hard they work. But to me, and and
(01:01:57):
I think their staff would probably agree, there's something just
not right about the fact that in seven games Marvin
Harrison has thirty nine targets that it just seems and
I'm not saying he needs, you know, eighty targets, That's
not my point, but I think Marvin Harrison has to
be a little more featured, however you want to go
about doing that. Like I said, I'm not there designing
(01:02:19):
their offense, but that's not enough targets.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
He has appeared in seven games this year at this point,
by way of contrast, just for giggles, you know, because
it's something I track as I do.
Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
You like the giggle I do? Yeh.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
I mean, I'm like the pills very dope boy. If
you poke me in the belly, you're gonna get a
heat heat.
Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
I mean, I'm not saying that should have one hundred
targets like Jamar Chase, No exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
That's that's your upper end, right, You're already at one hundred. Yeah,
and you look at the leaders. You know, Christian McCaffrey
out of the backfields, third in the National Football League
for the forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
He's got seventy three targets. Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, But.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
The fact that we're looking at your guy that's the
number one, and look, he struggled a little bit. He's
obviously missed a little bit. I'm with the concussion. But
he's a guy that you drafted to be a difference maker.
You got to give him a chance to be a
difference maker.
Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
I mean, and I tell you on film, I've seen
him run some routes that are just special. So it's
you know, again, we're not there, Mike. So I always
find it hard to discuss this because you know, I'm
very fortunate in my career to have conversations with coaches, sure,
and the things that I learned from those conversations, given
that I'm a tape junkie and I literally work seventy
(01:03:30):
five hours a week watching tape, and I've done that
for years and years and years, you know, NFL tape,
college tape. And then the things that I'm told by
coaches who I know well and it just blows me
away the stuff that even someone like myself who grinds
on tape can't possibly know. And I learned so much.
So you know, again, I don't know the reason, but
that just doesn't seem like the right number. Wouldn't you agree?
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
I would agree right now? You got one double digit.
Otherwise his season high is six, which has been established
three times.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
So you know a guy that is averaging nearly seventeen
yards per catch, and I know timing, and you know
Murray being hurt and he and Harrison missing some time.
There's certainly some things. Losing Connor early was a big
deal for them and what they wanted to do offensively.
But moving forward, you know, you got to the old
(01:04:20):
make get get the ball in the hands of your playmakers.
However that has to happen. So we'll see what they
do against a defense that, as we say, to be kind,
has been generous. Yes, there you go at Greg Cosell
where you by Greg. Find me over at Swallowdum. Let's
take a turn over to the news desk with our guy,
my tag team partner, the I Watch a Flex Podcast.
You'll hear him later on on end Zone Radio. Here
(01:04:40):
Fox Sports Radio. It's Stan byer Hi Dan Fellows.
Speaker 6 (01:04:44):
We start out with the World Series last night, games
to seven in Toronto, as the Dodgers were able to
outlast the Blue Jays in eleven innings. If you missed it,
Yoshinobu Yamamoto the World Series MVP, getting three of the
four wins that the Dodgers needed to win. Back to
back time olds for LA three and six years, ninth
world title as an organization. Miguel Rojas with the solo
(01:05:07):
home run of the ninth to tie it. Will smith
solo shot in the eleventh won it for the Dodgers again,
their World Series champs, beating the Blue Jays five to four.
Now let's get to the Sunday action. Begos quarterback Joe
Flacco expected to start against the Bears today despite being
questionable with his shoulder injury. The Saints will have running
back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Rashi shi Heed for
(01:05:28):
Rams well. The Seahawks are likely without wide receiver Cooper
cup Tonight not expected to play against the Commanders after
popping up on the injury report this week.
Speaker 3 (01:05:36):
Big NFC North showed down in Detroit.
Speaker 6 (01:05:38):
JJ McCarthy returns, not only that he's going to have
some protection both Vikings offensive tackles. According to ESPN, that's
Brian O'Neil and Christian Derretsaw are expected to play in
today's game in Motown. And a trade happened yesterday, with
the trade dun Night coming up Tuesday, the Eagles and
Ravens made a swamp as Philadelphia acquired corner Jaire Alexander
along with a swamp of late round picks. Finally, guys,
(01:06:00):
if you missed the last time in the NBA, Hawks
gard Trey Young been ruled out at least four weeks
because of a sprain mcl in his knee.
Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
Back to you.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
Guys, Thanks Dan at Dan Byron Fox is where you
find him on Twitter, you hear him, It's part of
the Gottlieb Show and Cavino and Rich during the week
and again end Zone Radio a little later this afternoon.
Keep it locked on Fox Sports Radio for all the
latest couple of big injury news and notes that Dan
gave us. There obviously the big huge note coming out
(01:06:27):
of Minnesota where you get your tackles. But we'll talk
about JJ McCarthy in a minute. As we roll through
Mike Carmon, Greg co Sell with you here Fox Football Sunday.
I wanted to stay in division. Now they're a heavy favorite,
But be remiss if I didn't give a little bit
of well love to a certain quarterback who's having his
way with opposing defenses and utilizing the tight end position
(01:06:49):
on a whole other way. Let's talk Packers and Jordan
Love if we can.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Well for sure, I mean, I love love. There you go,
you love love. I love the way he's been played
playing and the way he's grown in the position. Because
you know, we've discussed this, I think a lot, but
a lot of people probably lose sight of the fact
that he's only it's only his third year starting. And
I think what you I really notice on tape he
always had a tendency because he's so gifted. He's got
(01:07:15):
a big arm, he's got an aggressive mindset. There always
been some throws in games that you go, that's a
little reckless, that's a little undisciplined. You know, why is
he doing that well? And again I'm not saying he'll
never do that again. You know that's that's a silly
thing to say, But I think what you're seeing now,
and I think Matt Laflor is really helping him with it.
Is he's playing with great awareness. He's seeing the field
(01:07:35):
with clarity. He's taking the throws that are there. He's
not chasing throws, and that's a term you hear from
coaches a lot. He's not chasing throws. He's playing with
much more calculation and control. Mike, and I think he's
just growing into the position as a third year starter,
you know. And this is another point that needs to
be made, and I think sometimes owners maybe lose sight
(01:07:57):
of this. In football, he's with the same coach, He's
growing with the system. I mean, I've talked to coaches
all through the years, and one thing I hear from
offensive coaches, veteran offensive coaches, is it takes a good
three years in the same system for a quarterback to
really understand it and to be able to execute it
at a higher level. And that is that's a really
(01:08:19):
important point when speaking about Jordan Love continuity.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
Certainly they are one of the benchmarks across the NFL.
Jealous being a Bears Bears guy, watching coaches, coordinators, yep,
position coaches guys who's disappeared. I'm still looking for Alan
Williams from last year that in the running Back Coach,
You guys have disappeared in season and we're never heard
from again. But let's hit the rewind button on Jordan
Love for a second, show a little love to what
(01:08:44):
he did against Steelers. Just snap the love.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
Rush On throws the Mets, cutting to the five to
the ends off better talker clap having a life Wow
touchdown Green Bay.
Speaker 5 (01:08:58):
They beach Chuck Clark on a Cruxer twenty four yard
touchdown reception.
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
The voice of Wayne Larovie, who I did Bears games
before heading to Greenville.
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
Sounds like Dwayne Laravie has been doing it for about
one hundred years.
Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
It is one of the best, though, one of the best.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
One of my favorites growing up, no question about it.
Voices of the game that stay with you throughout the years.
One of the great things I love about local broadcasts.
I still listen in to me, there's no better expression
of team angst and positivity and sometimes unwarranted hatred. Then
(01:09:36):
when you get a couple of X players together. I
listened to Hampton and Obradovich after Bears games. They can
win by twenty and you still think they got absolutely decimated. Yeah, yeah,
there's got to be a note being passed by the
producer reminding people.
Speaker 3 (01:09:49):
That they won exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
But they're so fired up. It's the best.
Speaker 3 (01:09:53):
Well one on the quick point because you just heard
Tucker Craft is obviously having a great season, but the
Packers have been one of the higher percentage twelve personnel offenses,
meaning they play with two tight ends. Almost forty percent
of their offensive snaps have been with two tight ends
on the field. That's the fourth highest percentage in the league.
And they're very, very good out of Craft can line
(01:10:14):
up anywhere. Musgrave, who hasn't had the receiving numbers, but
he's a very athletic guy, be interesting to see as
the season progresses and he gets healthier if he becomes
a factor as well.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
Ye had ten different players with at least one target
last week. Emmanuel Wilson ended up becoming the leading rusher.
He ended up with over eighty five yards from scrimmage
on his touches. So another option as they get to
maybe not overuse Josh Jacobs in the middle part of
the season and make sure he's ready and loaded for Bears.
This goes through I bring this one up because again
(01:10:46):
people think Carolina and they think of history. They're actually
a competitive squad floating in that five hundred range as
we hit the second half of the season. Now, obviously
this one's expected to be a big blowout scenario. But
until they play the games, you've got me locked in.
I'm curious to see what Bryce Young and company have
(01:11:07):
against this Green Bay defense.
Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
Greg Yeah, he's back. Green Bay's defense has It's been,
for the most part, pretty good, you know. I think
on the back end is where you feel at times
that you can take advantage of them, just because of
the people that they have playing back there, particularly at
the outside corner position. It's been Nixon and Valentine, you know,
(01:11:29):
solid players, But I think I would bet that offensive
coordinators feel like we can do something outside. And Ted
mcmillans had a really good season for a rookie, you know,
given that the quarterback situation, I don't want to say
it's been up and down. Certainly, Bryce Young has improved.
He missed last week obviously, and it just didn't go
well for Anddy Dalton. But Young's back this week. But
(01:11:50):
you're right, until you play these games, you never know.
In their defense. Look, they struggled against the run obviously
last week, but for the most part it's not been bad.
Speaker 2 (01:11:58):

As we go global time and time again, we get
one more game in as we roll through the Jacksonville
Jaguars on the road at Las Vegas. Brock Bauers is back,
still waiting for that big influx of stats and meeting
(01:12:43):
expectations for Ashton Jenny. But Jacksonville without Travis Hunters, so
Parker Washington steps up into that number two receiving slot
Trevor Lawrence. It's a spot for Jacksonville here as they
try to keep their hopes alive for season play. There
out of the South.
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
Yeah, there's been such an inconsistency to Trevor Lawrence. I
know coaches who've been with him, everybody loves them, you
know when they coach him. There's just been, you know,
an inconsistency to his play. He's a big kid, he's
a long kid. He struggles out of squeezed pockets because
he's a strider as a thrower, and when he can't stride,
(01:13:23):
he tends to rush his delivery and can lose his
ball location. So it'll be interesting to see his further
development under Liam Cohen. First year, new offense. You have
to take that into account. There's a lot of elements
to this offense. There's a lot of movement elements pre
snap movement, shifts, motions, all that plays into it. How
(01:13:43):
do you get the call in the huddle? Can you
get to the line of scrimmage fast enough so that
all the shifts and motions can happen comfortably, and then
Trevor Lawrence has time to research and investigate the defense.
That's the operational part of playing quarterback that not a
lot of people talk about, which is always takes time
when you have a new coordinator and a new coach.
(01:14:03):
But you know, the whole thing with Hunter fascinates me.
I personally believe, and maybe people tell me I'm wrong.
I think you have to decide what he is. Is
he a corner or a receiver? I don't think you
can play both in the National Football League on any
meaningful level. Does that mean you can't put him out
there for a couple of snaps here and there. But
(01:14:24):
I do not believe he can play twenty thirty plus
snaps at each position. That's just my personal opinion.
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
I'm right there with you get great at one and
then we can sprinkle back in the other way. But
we'll see how they use it on IR for the
next four and you roll on. He's great, Cozella on
my carbon Fox Football Sunday Fox Sports Radio. Is still
a couple of games as we whip around the schedule. Reminder, Cleveland, Philadelphia,
the New York Football Jets, and the Buccaneers all celebrating
(01:14:51):
their bye week this week, so make your lineup adjustments accordingly.
A couple more to get to what We'll head out
to New York, New Jersey with the San Francisco forty
nine ers and a huge spot here another Mac Jones
experience ahead. What do we expect? We'll talk about it
next here on Fox. Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Radios,

show hosted Wright. After we get off the air, a
couple more minutes, a couple more matchups as we go through.
As we heard Dan Buyer's update at the bottom of
the hour, Greg, the tackles will be ready for Minnesota,
will JJ McCarthy against the Detroit defense. Aiden Hutchinson looking
to prove he was worth every dime of that contract extension.
Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
Well, and what I'm curious to see is how Kevin
O'Connell goes about putting it together to the FA in
this game, because I think McCarthy's clearly not at the
point where you really want to put the game in
his hands obviously unless it plays out differently, but early on,
I would think it's going to be a lot of
quick throws, a lot of what we almost call one
read no reed throws, just get him completions. But I
(01:16:16):
want to say something about the other side of the ball,
because you know, this was a game that we did
in the Matchup show, and we went back and looked
at last year where the Lions beat the Vikings twice
in the two games. Check this out, Mike, just you
almost have to be seated to hear these numbers. In
the two games against a Brian Flores defense, Jamiir Gibbs
(01:16:37):
had forty seven touches for three hundred and thirty yards
and six touchdowns. Just think about that. For just those
are in the two games against the Vikings. I imagine
Brian Floores will be focused a bit on Jamier Gibbs.
Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
You think he gave him some nightmares for those fuzzy
math at seven yards of touch and six touchdowns and
six touchdowns, that's insane.
Speaker 3 (01:17:01):
And Gibbs is just one of those guys. You know,
I think I've said this before with you. There's just
a few guys in the league that have terrifying speed.
The Lions actually have two of them, and Gibbs and
Jamison Williams. So if Gibbs gets clean to a safety,
the safety is not going to tackle him.
Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
Now, it's funny you mentioned Jameson Williams because the OC
and everybody around the team talking about I got to
get him involved. They gotta do this, Yeah, force feeding
him the ball, just trying to get him involved early.
I'm trying to figure out. You know, you got a
lot of miles to feed there in that Detroit offense.
Speaker 3 (01:17:35):
You sure do. And that's not an easy thing for coordinator.
And Morten has done a terrific job. He's a first
year coordinator, and that's a hard thing to do. You know,
They've got Gibbs, They've got Montgomery, They've got Saint Brown,
They've got Laporta, they've got Williams. I mean, there's a
lot of players. They are really good players. And it's again,
I'm not a coordinator. I'm not going to sit here
(01:17:56):
and say I know how to do it. I certainly don't.
But it's a difficult thing to do.
Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
San Francisco trying to come back off that loss to
the Houston Texans, a week ago they traveled to New York.
No Scatabo done for the year with that ankle injury.
Very defleating. I think a lot of fans were disappointed
league wide, just the way in stylely Ran. You saw
the reaction from the crowd that gave him a standing
ovation and it was not, you know, a jeering kind
(01:18:22):
of motion. It was I'm sorry to see that guy go.
So a tough spot here for the Giants for young
Jackson Dart against San Francisco. Now San Francisco down a
couple of their their biggest defensive pieces, but still a
tough slate trying to find that next man up.
Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
Yeah, and the Giants are an interesting team right now.
Darts Darts an interesting guy because he's playing with his
legs more than he's playing from the pocket. And and
right now he's playing very fast with unfocused eyes. He's
I learned a great term when I worked with Ryan
Jaworski for years and years and years, and I love
this term. And you can see it with a quarterback.
Certainly when you watch tape, he's seeing everything but really
(01:19:01):
seeing nothing. Right and yeah, and right now Dart's kind
of in that mode. But his legs are are really
you have to stop him from moving around. That's the
way he's made a lot of his plays.
Speaker 2 (01:19:12):
I feel like that should be on a T shirt.
I'll get everything nothing, Yeah, piece of the action if
we can make that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
Right, right, right, right, all right, let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
Another match up. But Atlanta and New England. Drake may
Company nearly twenty seven points per game. There's a shocker.
Pennic's back under center for Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
Yeah, and and you know, Atlanta's a very interesting offensive
team because you know, again, I just feel like that
Bjon Robinson needs to They need to get back to
the basics. To me, then where Bjon Robinson's kind of
the foundation give him twenty to twenty five touches, you know,
assuming the game is close. For the most part, Atlanta's
defense has been pretty good. They've had some poor moments,
(01:19:50):
but for the most part, Jeff Eulbrook's done a really
good job with his pressures. He likes to play man.
And we've talked a lot about Drake may You know,
you're starting to say the same thing every week. You
just wonder is he going to have that bad game?
I mean, you know, you got to figure a bad
game might happen at some point. But he's played exceptionally
well and I just love how calm he moves within
(01:20:11):
the pocket. And yes he can run out of the
pocket too, but he moves so well within the pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
And for atlanta'll be huge. Drake London will be back
for them as well. Lastly, Look, I avoided the Bears
and Bengals, but Joe Flacco against the Bears, we can
even kick that to the curb Seattle, Washington or Chicago Cincinnati.
Choose You're an adventure for.
Speaker 3 (01:20:34):
The well, you know what. Look, I personally think after
watching tape that I thought Caleb Williams showed some positive
signs of growth versus the Ravens last week. He didn't
get stuck in the pocket as much as we've seen
in other games this season. I think incrementally he's developing
a little more sense and a better feel for the
timing of Ben Johnson's pass game. Now, he's not a
natural timing and anticipation guy, so this is going to
(01:20:57):
take time. He's really in his rookie season.
Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
Mike, Yeah, So it's curious, right, a work in progress,
no question about it. Need to cash in on those
early scripts and find the end zone, but certainly an
opportunity here against a well bad Cincinnati defense. Greg always fantastic,
run with you. Two hours in the books. Countdown to
kick Off presented by bet MGM. Next Up, Fox,
