like the kings of baseball battles Tony Clark and cc
Dee will and Mookie Joe Baryon. Of course the kid

and Gary Pettis greener than the lettuce raj Davis Haveril
Reynolds and bowl Porter Pajro Martinez from across the Border

that the player's alliance, no pimping, no win to m

and Randia rose Arena, who plays like there's no tomorrow,
but we do. The Bros, the baseball keep the pros

And every Monday on mlbbro dot com with my weekly column,
Diamond Cuts.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
This week on Classic Hits, we're.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
Moving to the Mound to tell the story of one
particularly notable night for a melanated mound. Marauter Orley Jackson
had been a non descript part of the pitching staff
for the New York Mets after being called up for
the minors for the first time during the nineteen seventy
seven season. In three years, he'd only appeared in just
sixteen games, putting up a one to two record.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
But in nineteen eighty, in his first start of the season,
everything came together for roy Lee Jackson.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
Facing off against the Cincinnati Reds on July nineteen, a
team that still had many of the parts of the
Big Red Machine still in the lineup, including Dave Concepcion,
Ken Griffy, George Foster, and Johnny Bench, Jackson turned from
afterthought into an All star. He retired the first nineteen
batters he faced on his way to a three hit,
three run complete game victory. Jackson struck out twelve batters
and only walked three starting the season.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Want to know what that kind of performance you think
roy Lee would get on a roll? He did not.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
He didn't win another game the rest of the season,
and eight starts didn't get pass a six inning in
any of them.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
He did manage one save on the year.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
Royley Jackson's story didn't end there, though, after being traded
to the Toronto Blue.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Jays, Jackson finally did become a state member of the
Jays bullpen.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Over the next four seasons, he went twenty four and
twenty one with a three point five zero earned run average.
In nineteen eighty three and eighty four, he let the
Blue Jayson innings, pitched in relief and racked up thirty saves.
He finished his career with solid campaigns for both the
Padres and Twins before retiring in the nineteen eighty seven campaign.
It's one of the few players in Big League history
to sing the American and.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Canadian national anthems before games. He was also.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
Inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in twenty twenty.
Jackson was a three year standout for the Tuskeee Golden Tigers.
I'm David Grove and this has been classic hits.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Now back to the mix, go indeed with Og, Mark Gray.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
Suppose you had a seat to Black American baseball history
in your lifetime and you got a chance to bring
those memories to life. It's your boy, Mark Gray tot
MLBOG and I'm going deep for the mixtape. The filmmaker
Byron Motley has created the epic documentary of life on
Negro League Baseball in America. The league chronicles all aspects

(05:52):
of the game that black people loved, despite the fact
it almost turned their facts on them.

Speaker 7 (05:59):
What was the labor of It took basically twenty four
years for me to get it completed. Started interviewing players
back in nineteen ninety nine at the Negoos Baseball Museum,
so it was a long process, but it was a
piece of a slice of him for me.

Speaker 6 (06:16):
Motley blends the stories of the triumphs over the Jim
Crow times with an energy that's never seen before. And
that energy was bigger than just what you saw play
on the field.

Speaker 7 (06:30):
These players were prime players, and they learned the game
from each other and kind of really on their own.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
They didn't have a lot.

Speaker 7 (06:37):
Of coaches that these players, they learned from each other,
they learned sping of the Diamond together, so they kind
of created their own thing, their own league.

Speaker 6 (06:46):
Several great legendary figures are quoted in this movie, and
through an interview with the legendary poet Maya Angelo, the
project actually got its name there.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
I am in may Angela's house and for living room,
we have this incredible interview and that you guys asked
her about with the Negro leagues aments to her growing up,
and she came over and she said, no, everybody referred
to as to it as the league. And when they
said the league, you knew they were talking about the
Negro Basically, don't.

Speaker 6 (07:17):
Make any error and check out the League on the
streaming service near You's boy, Mark Great, the MLB og
and I'm going d.

Speaker 2 (07:26):

the Black Age Report.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
What's up, everybody?

Speaker 8 (07:42):
This is justin Patirley with the Black Age Report on
the MLB Bro Show podcast mixtape. Here's where you get
the latest on the melodated Mountain Marauters. We're shoveling with
precision and popping out all across the big leagues, so
let's check the report. After such a long battle with
injuries and being on the restricted list of the minors,
Alex Spiez finally got his moment.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
In the show, and he was cooking.

Speaker 8 (08:03):
He appeared in the seventh inning for the Rangers on
July nineteenth, where he pitched one to two thirds innies,
gave up no hits, and struck out three batters, which
are the first three guys he ever faced with Speeds
being added to the bullpen with fellow bro Grant Anderson,
the first place Rangers have a dangerous pair of bros
coming out to help secure wins in the later portion
of games. Tywe Walker won his seventh consecutive start after

(08:24):
taking down the Podgers on July fifteenth by pitching five innies,
giving up four hits and two runs. He now has
a four point zero zero ERA and as eleven and
three on the year, tied for the league lead and wins.
Blackjack Clarity pick up the win on his first start
in the second half of the season, when he pitched
on July sixteenth against the Nationals. He won six innings,
allowed three hits, three runs, and fans seven. He's won

(08:47):
his last four starts, as he hasn't lost a game
in over a month after choosing to rest rather than
pitching the All Star Game. The rest paid off for
Marcus Strowman as he won his first start since the break.
He won six innings, giving up three hit in one run.
His eras at two point eight eight, which is third
in the National League. That's the black As Report for
this week. This is JP the urk Now back to

We believe in the minds that mold plush. It is
in rock and roll that rocks the soul with the

foul pole left the picture leaning like a junkie.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
You snore in dope.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
But this is the land, the whole sprngrass and post game,
can the vote the ball to travel to darn strawberry
blast that never choke.

Speaker 2 (10:03):

Riots Kerosene to Rundown Supreme.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
The bros know what I mean, Rings obvious Boa plus.

Speaker 9 (12:02):
Baseball is a game of stats. I'm Sebastianball and I'm
the numbers band. CJ Abrams came into the twenty twenty
three season with a lot to prove, being one of
the pieces that the Nationals hope would lead them to
success in the very near future. He has shown flashes
of being the elite player Washington hopes he can be,
and recently he has been the bright.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Spot in BC.

Speaker 9 (12:25):
Abrams has shown good progress so far in twenty twenty three,
improving upon most of his major stats from twenty twenty two.
As of July nineteenth, Abrams has a weight runs creative
plus of ninety one, which is a good improvement from
the seventy one he notched in twenty twenty two, along
with an increase in Fancrafts war of one point one
from twenty twenty two to toy twenty three. The real

(12:46):
magic for Abrams has been happening recently, as he's been
moved to the leadoff spot in the Nationals lineup. When
leading off, Abrams has a weighted runs creative plus of
one seventy eight, which is one of the highest totals
in the entire league. He straight tailed just thirteen five
percent of the time when leading off, and with this
hitting surge and Abrams' overall athleticism, Abrams is looking to

(13:10):
be a huge part of the National's future, and he
has potential to be the backbone of the Nationals lineup
for more than a decade to come.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
Young Krit, he had to tell you about the row Bombers.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
He had to tell you about low drama. What's up, everybody?

Speaker 10 (13:28):
This is Young Krit and this is my weekly countdown
on the biggest plays made by MLB bros over the
past seven days.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
This week come again.

Speaker 10 (13:36):
At number five, we have manager shirt stop JP cwper
let himself a ninth day on Sunday, collecting three hits
with two doubles and a two nothing win over the
Detroit Tigers. Up next to number four, Guardians first baseman
Josh Naylor continues to hit like one of the best
in the game.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
In the three game set.

Speaker 10 (13:53):
Against the Rangers over the weekend, he ranked in four
hits with two doubles, a home run in two RBI.
Sitting in there, we've got Yankee's outfit of Jan Carlos Setton,
who will up from slump for a couple of days
against the Rockies, collected three hits with a double, two
arm runs and six to RBI. And at number two
this week we have radio shortstop Marcus Simon boat himself

(14:14):
in a packful day on Sunday, hitting a home run
in an RBI with two walks, and he scored three
runs in a sixty five win over the sleeven Guardian.
Finally number one on Christy Countdown, we have national shortstop
c J. Abrams, who picked up where we left off
after the break and sending his.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Hitting street to six games. In his first three.

Speaker 10 (14:31):
Games back in action, he collected six hits with a double,
a triple, and a home run. The young Girls extremely
talented and this stretch could be just what he needs
to get him going.

Speaker 8 (14:41):
Breaking ball and Ingram skits hold of one though, se
you later.

Speaker 10 (14:47):
And that's it until next week. I'm Young krit and
this has been Chrits Countdown on the mb Bro Show
podcast mixtape.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Now backs to the mix.

Speaker 11 (15:03):
This is Rachel Hill and I'm taking from first to
third with the Atlanta Braves outfielder Mike Harris.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
During the All Star break, the rainy rookie of the
Year of Money.

Speaker 11 (15:12):
Mike Harris spent time with children at the Children's Hospital
of Atlanta. He stopped by with the Animal Support Pet,
which was a dog, to say hello to patients. He
passed out signing hats and gave the children words of encouragement.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
He brought smiles to the faces.

Speaker 12 (15:25):
Of his biggest and bravest fans.

Speaker 11 (15:27):
The visit was in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves Foundation
and the Catch twenty three Foundation. Catch twenty three Foundation
is a community based organization focusing on combating the stigma
of mental illness, eradicating the growing problem of homelessness, and
promoting diversity and inclusion. Michael has a desire to make
a difference in his community, which extends far beyond baseball.

(15:49):
Mike believes a life is not important except in the
impact it has on other lives. Mike also donated twenty
three thousand dollars to Jackson, Mississippi, residents impacted by the
water crisis. He helps most of the money benefited the
city's youth because they are probably the ones struggling the most.
The organization will address these issues with several annual hands
on endeavors, included, but not limited to aligning certain groups

(16:11):
with emotional support pets, spearheading efforts to supply back to
school supplies.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Meals, and clothing to those in need.

Speaker 11 (16:18):
Through annual fundraising, Catch twenty three will also look to
help foster future employment and educational opportunities for minorities, his
aspiration to become a veterinarian, and knowing how pets may
heighten the lives of others, invigorating his desire to get
back through animal support pets. Thank you, Mike for hitting
out of the park with the catch.

Speaker 12 (16:36):
Twenty three foundations, pssssssssst.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
The seven Deadly venoms of gore Pros, MNB.

His walkle and four brown cash fell fact you winning man,
old man by judge.

Speaker 13 (20:48):
Why why.

Speaker 14 (20:52):
This is Rachel Hill and this is my two cents
on Minnesota Twins designated hitter Byron Buxton. One thing about
Barbron is he going to serve the community. And he
does it so well that he was nominated for the
Roberto Clemente Award last season. The Roberto Clemente Award is
bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game
of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive

(21:15):
contributions both on and off the field. Byron did not
win the award, but he is involved in plenty of
philanthropic efforts in the city of Minneapolis. Byron has used
this platform to support military service members and their family
throughout Twins Territory. His career lawng commitment to the military
community highlights his personal values of service and integrity. Buston

(21:36):
has also been recognized twice in twenty seventeen and nineteen
with the MLBPAA Twins Heart and Hustle Award for his
dedication to the game and to the community. Byron continues
his Buxton's Battalion program for families of service members. They
are invited to Target Field every Friday for a special
batting practice, viewing session and meet and greet with sign

(21:56):
memorabilia and take us to that evening's game. Byron continues
his Buckston's Battalion program for the fifth year in the row. Byron,
who is a champion for the Twins commitment to empowering
the full potential for youth. Has attended multiple Twins RBI
glove giveaways, helping to distribute free baseball gloves who participants
in the Twins RBI program. He is Captain several Twins

(22:18):
Week of Service volunteer events, brought smiles to the faces
of countless Twins fans on Twins Winter Caravan, and flown
in Minnesota during winter solely to be able to pass
out presents at a holiday party at Gillett Children's Hospital.
Byron exemplifies the values that our nation's military is founded on, honor, courage,
and commitment.
