Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. What's up, everybody?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Happy Sunday, Fox Sports Radio coming to you live from
La I am Manci Belanyas alongside my buddy.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
As you heard, former All Pro safety.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Carrie Rhades hanging out with you, not for six hours
like Carlos Alcaaz and Yonick Sinner had.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Did you see that MATCHI.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
I did not see the match. I'm a big tennis fan,
but I was watching. I was actually watching something else
that I needed to do some research with.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Listen, go back and just watch the final game, the
final set of it. It went to a tiebreak, and
it was you were just like back and forth watching
tennis gods at their finest. It was unreal, almost six hours,
Like it puts into perspective, how can you last that
long and be hitting the ball that hard five hours later?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
It's one of the ultimate sports in this world. I
mean you you're out there for like you said, four
or five six hours.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
By yourself, by yourself.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
You have nobody to to take the blame but yourself. Yes,
And the pressure that mounts in those situations, especially in
the grand like a final, it's just unbearable. And I've
seen it up close. It's the tensions, it's palpable.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
It's one of those things that you don't need to
know how tennis works. You can just tune in and
understand how good those two were.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
The rallying back and forth, right.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
You know what I'm worried about, though, I'm worried about
the fans with six hours doing their head back and forth.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Like this forth right now. They probably had a strain
in their neck.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I assume it was Yannick Sinner's mom, but she was
just like at the edge of her seat with her
hands in her face, like she could not watch. And
I feel like that's how it literally went to a
tie break, which I don't know if it's the same
in every major tournament, but it's a tie break first
to ten points, just straight ten points, and Carlos Alkraz
won the first seven and he won it like ten.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
To two, so just straight points.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
After they went to tied six games in the fifth
and final set, Carlos Aukraz had not won in this tournament.
When he was down two sets to start. Jonick Center
hadn't won a match that was over four hours.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
The mental gymnastics that was going on, yeah, yeah, crazy
and it's like and theonic center is has been on
the top of this game this year and playing really well,
and obviously we all know al Koraz, but for him
to be able to come back. Somebody actually on x
they compared it to the Falcons being up to the
New England twenty eighty.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Three, and I was like, that's pretty accurate.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
I just thought of that game. That's funny that you
bring that up. I just thought of that game. Oh absolutely, no,
an absolute great match.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
If you didn't watch it, just watch the end. It
was so so good. But from one great match, we
go back to a great game one of the NBA.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Finals, carry we did not We tend to text each
other when there's a game going on. We don't even
you know, we see stupid things to each other obviously,
but like, we didn't even text each other, so I
actually don't know how you were feeling. We both said
we were gonna give our picks at the end of
last week's episode, but like always, we have too much
(03:04):
on the docket and then we run out of time
and that's.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Probably when it happened today. But we didn't get to
see anything.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
And I'm sure did you see the video I went
around very quickly and got everybody I did.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yes, this was I didn't even plan to do this.
I just decided to do it last minute, and I
got as many let me out. I was on Wednesday,
just like you do with the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Ye, shots fired, shots are.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
So before, honestly, before the game started, what was your
what what were you feeling?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
What was going to be like your pick? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Remember we were going back and forth and I didn't
know at the time. I really and I really thought
the Pacers were going to give them a great series anyway, Yes,
and a lot of people didn't think that.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
A lot of people think that.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Okay, so he was gonna I heard some sweeps and
I was like, are you guys, what are you watching?
Speaker 1 (03:50):
I know we dissected the mattress last week.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and so like it's one of those
things that we talked about it where I said the
Jayalen Williams and Chet Holmgren and the Miles Turner and
Pascal Siakam, those matchups between those individuals, it's what's gonna
dictate this series. And the Pacers Siakam and Turner won
that match up in Game one.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Who won Game one the Pacers.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
So what I'm looking for right now, obviously that game
is it was one of those things where the Pacers
have had this type of show this whole tournament, right Like, Yep,
doesn't matter how many points they're down, it doesn't matter
what point in the game it is, they can make
a run. That's just it just overwhelms the other team.
And that's what happened to them in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Man, it didn't matter that they also were playing ugly basketball.
Miles Turner could not hold onto the ball in the
first quarter.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
He just kept giving them the ball.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
I was like, just stop, take him out for a second,
let him cool off. I don't know if the jitters
were high, but Miles Turner could not hold the ball
and keep it in their possession.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
That was the whole first quarter. The first quarter was
awful basketball. And then the same quarter was a smidge better, right,
and then they were still down fifteen.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
And what I couldn't believe watching how bad the Pacers looked,
and then how good SGA came out swinging right like
a quick ten fifteen points.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
How the lead was only fifteen like.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Never once I took the pay after it's like you
say that because Lorena I recorded her late at night
on Wednesday night because I wanted a video to be
out before five, right, And she's like, well, who did
you pick?
Speaker 1 (05:29):
So it's late, it's eleven o'clock at night on Wednesday,
and she's like, who's picking. I was like, I don't know,
Like I haven't do it. I haven't done it.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I'm gonna do it tomorrow when I come into work
before five. And she's just like, that's how I felt, right,
because I truly wasn't sure. And I was like, I
feel that I, I and many people have underestimated the
Pacers this entire postseason. I have kept saying there's no
way that they're gonna be successful scoring by committee. I
have said that, I mean, we're gonna talk to Scott
(05:59):
Agnes again going to join us. I said that to him,
I don't see them going far. Well, boy was I wrong.
Here we are in the finals, and so I just
had to be like, I need to reassess the way
I look at the Pacers.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
While all the you're right, all.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
The experts and I'm using air quotes here because you know,
carry and I like to think we're experts, but.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
We're not considered experts.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
But the ones that are considered experts, you know on
across ESPN and Sports illict or whatever you want.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
To that's their titles.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Most people, if not all, took Okac to win. It
was only like us, normal people that like kind of
were like, maybe the.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Pacers have a chance.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Normal people that played that played or just kind of
watched a little bit more of just a couple of games.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
But you know, I really was I think the Pacers
I have been wrong.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
And then with Okac, it's like everybody's already saying you're
so good and you're gonna have an easy time, so
why won't okay, see underestimate them just like I have been,
And that's exactly what they did.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Yeah, I mean I think there's a little bit of
that feeling, that sentiment from me as well. But I
just you have teams that get really hot at the
right time, and a lot of times when you see
teams that get hot at the right time, what's the like,
I guess, the dominating factor over all those teams They
(07:15):
really like each other. And so when you talk about
the chemistry of a team that likes each other and
a team that wants to succeed outside of themselves. That's
the recipe for a team to get hot at the
right time and win it all. And then you have
that ace in the sleeve, that ace in the hole,
that it's in the back pocket wherever you want to
put that ace. Yea in Rick Carlisle, which you know
(07:37):
I've talked about forever.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Yeah, and I can give it flowers the whole.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Preach all the time. Yeah, he is a better coach
than Mark Dayton right now. I don't mean that, you know,
Mark can't catch him or be whatever, But at this time,
he has so much experience. He's seen so many different
scenarios on that level. He will have them ready to play.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
And obviously, like you just said, the word is experienced.
I mean Rick carl was not his first rodeo. First,
is not a second, it's not a certain and so
the experience actually comes with it. And like watching watching
him kind of you tell me back then, because I
don't remember. Has he always been this cool, calm and
collected No, no.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
And that's the thing experience and the thing about him
actually winning his first one in Dallas, m It's exactly
what you're saying his mentality change, right. He had a
point guard that he believed in because Rick Rick used
to be a control freak. He wanted everything to be
absolutely a certain way. He used to call all the
(08:37):
offensive plays. That's why I remember when Rajon Rondo went
to the Mavericks. Rondo's a wild card. He likes to
run things himself, but Rick Carlile didn't allow him. And
that's where the frixing came from. Interesting when Dallas won it,
who was their point guard? Do you remember?
Speaker 1 (08:50):
I'll put you on the spot, was it? Yes? Hold on,
it was Jason Terry Kid. Jason Kid, Sorry, but was
on the team, So I'm not crazy.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
No, But Jason kidds just starting point hall of famer
that knows how to orchestrade a team, and he allowed
Jason Kidd to beat him and do his thing.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
That's Halliburton right now.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Jason Kidd and Haliburton are just like you think about
the way they play. They're always about the pass first.
Now Halliburton can score better than Jason, but now Rick
has that guy and he can do the same thing
with this team.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I just man watching that final nine minutes to go,
Pacers were still down fifteen, but then a couple of
threes are hit.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
What was the switch? What do you think happened? Was
it just the threes or what do you feel.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I do feel like it was a couple of clutch
moment threes where where Okac was trying to pull away
and the Thunder were like, no, we're not going down
without a fight.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
This game is forty eight minutes. We're going to play
until forty eight minutes.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
They're the ones that have taught you this, this entire
playoffs run, and I feel like it was a Miles
Turner three, Amhard three a niece. It was the fact
that it wasn't one player doing it, and then it
wasn't Tyrese Halliburton.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
I was like, oh my gosh, this is this is
the little rule.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
It was just like a perfect example of what has
made the Pacers who they.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Are and why they are here right now.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
But it was nine minutes and they were still up
by fifteen, and it was like little by little, and
then of course Nemhard right stopping a SGA who was
the leading scorer and play the entire game the way
he needed to be the MVP. Thirty eight points came
out swinging exactly what you wanted him to do, but
getting that stop and then the Pacers not calling a
(10:41):
time out.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, let him go. H I told you. I'm reading
I'm almost done with it.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
I'm reading Phil Jackson's book Eleven Rings. I know I'm
very late to the game, y'all.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
But in that he.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Talks about how a lot of players expect the coach
to call a time out because they're looking for the
coach for answers, and he would always be like, I
just let them do it, let them figure it out.
And in that moment, Rick Carlile not calling time out,
that was such a badass move.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
That was such a bad ass move. He's like, go ahead, guys,
go ahead.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I trust you, Yes, I trust you, and I think
you know what You've been in this position before.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
And then there goes did the minute Terry's haliver and
have the ball? I was like, this is over? You did?
Speaker 2 (11:19):
I was like, there's because I just was like, it's
almost like the stars aligned, like you can't if it's
meant to be, it's meant to be, And I don't
know if that's what this Pacers run is am meant
to be Championship run but right, I.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Was like, and then I started screaming like I cared.
I don't even care.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
I started screaming up and down these halls like a
crazy person.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Yes, I ran all the way around here. I ran.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I ran back also because Bree called the thunder sweep,
so obviously I'm.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Sorry what you say? Did you see that? Are you still?
Is that still possibility?
Speaker 2 (11:49):
I don't know, so I like, I care, guys, I
don't care who wins this, but boy, it seems like
I was a Pacers fan.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
And for a hot second, did I look into his
new shoes? Maybe? Did I?
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Did I look into a shirt from Puma that says
what does it say?
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Over? Something about overrated? But not I want that one.
Let me die.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
If you get that one, get me one, and I'll
take care of.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Me because I it made me want to go do
that watching him on unreal And at the same time.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
This is exactly what they've been doing.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
You know it's crazy, no, no, yes, but you know
what's crazy about the Halla Burton stuff is and I
don't know how he may have the best, the best
moniker going right now with the Haliban thing.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Oh, it's really good. It's hilarious.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
It's so funny and another reason why the w NBA
fan base can't get with it, because this would offend
them so much.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
It was the w n B A and the NBA
that was offended. Everyone was just so so good.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Well, Game two is in about what less than three hours?
Lucky for us, we get to talk to Scott Agnes again,
who is in Oklahoma City right now?
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Are you there?
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Yes, so we're gonna chat with him. Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
I am want Sie Belanyas alongside former All Pro safety
Carry Roads, hanging out with you. Getting ready to watch
Game two of the NBA Finals. I'm sure you're getting
ready to watch the Yankees and the Red Sox too, right,
Are you gonna.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Do a little need a bounce back to back?
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Yeah, yeah, you definitely need that.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
But more Bartley gave two of the NBA Finals from
Oklahoma City, and we have Scott Agnes there living the dream.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Scott, how is it. How is it going over there, Scott,
let's trade.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Hey, well, they just finished up practicing the national anthem
before tonight's game. It's a ballming like ninety five, humid
in such at Oklahoma City here, but so many runners
and so many people leave in the gift shop looking
forward to game two here tonight.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Okay, Scott, you stayed in. It is ninety five and human.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Yeah, we'll chill here. Scott, you were there for game
one as.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
Well, absolutely tell me, been here about a week now.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
How at what point would you say in that fourth
quarter that the air was sucked out.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Of that arena?
Speaker 5 (14:33):
It was with Tyrethe's shot, without question. The fans did
not know how to react. They're not used to this,
and to see them have that lead in a fourth quarter,
a fifteen point lead and then slowly zapped away and
the Pacers finished the game on a twelfth two run.
They weren't prepared for what's to come, and so at
first it was oh no, and then silence like nobody
(14:53):
knew what to do.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Scott, I mean this series, I mean me and Monci
have talked about it. I you see the popular pick
is okay, see in an easy series and I never
saw it that way. I knew it'd be a competitive series.
And for the Pacers that go in and not played
their best basketball in Game one and still come out
on top, how is the team filling right now at
this moment.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
Yeah, that's the good reason for why they feel encouraged.
They're sitting back and saying, hey, we turned it over
more in the first half than they did in every
game throughout the postseason to get to this point, so
that was significant. On top of that, shots weren't going
down until the second half, and that's really what got
them in the rhythm. Sorry, it's they've tranked up the
music here, but fans aren't in yet though. But no,
(15:41):
they feel encouraged because that wasn't a great play, especially
in that first half. But what we did see was
they clammed down defensively and had some sex success there.
And then on top of that, that corner three is
something to watch. There were eight of ten in that
left corner and they knocked down a handful of those.
So that's something we knew. Okase gives up and we
also know the Pacers are better than anyone in the corner,
(16:02):
so that's something to watch here.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Tonight.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
You know, Scott, that first quarter I jokingly said that
Miles Turner couldn't hold onto the ball if his life
depended on it. It it just kept turnover after turnover nineteen.
Like you mentioned, what was said at halftime to the team,
because Okasey should have been up by more than fifteen
at that point.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
So that's what I was telling my colleagues next to
me on press row, I go, this should be a
twenty five point deficit for the Pacers. The fact that
it's what was it like twelve? I think, yeah, Thunder,
Thunder got to be a little bit worried here, because
again I have seen this all season. Twelve is nothing,
and as we saw, they race that in about two
minutes and thirty seconds to close the game. And so
when it got to the third quarter, got to the
(16:42):
fourth quarter, I was still sitting there, like thunder or
not in a good position right now, even though the
Pacers have not played good basketball. But in terms of
your question halftime, the biggest thing they talked about was
what they talked about all season. It's being process oriented.
Play the next play, get to the next time out,
rather than oh my goodness, we just turned it over
all this time, we're in such a deficit. That is
(17:03):
something that it's not just a cliche for them. They
have been, you know, a narrow mentality and a narrow
focus to get them onto each game, especially important right
now where you have so many fans, so many media,
so many people reaching out for tickets and things like that.
They're just trying to keep their blinders on and focus
on what's ahead of them.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Scott, you know the thing about this team for me,
I've said it coming into the series that they had
the ace in the hole, and the ace in the
hole for me was Rick Carlisle. And I know, I
know he's graduated from his all encompensing control that he
used to have then to now this point of freedom
for some of his players and players that he trust.
(17:45):
The last time he won a championship in twenty eleven,
he had a guy that he trusted at the point
guard position in Jason Kidd. I think it's very similar
to say he trusts Haliburt in the same way, and
he has a team that can possibly shock the world
here if things continue to go day way they are.
But talk about the trust factor that they have in
Halliburton and really leading his team.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Yeah, for sure, that's well said. That's that's exactly how
I felt as well going into the series, as that
was the Pacers the disadvantage. Not only him, but they
have several other former head coaches on their staff, Boyd Pierce,
Jim Boyle, and Jenny Boosick. They've several of them have
won titles, they've coached in big games. Where's Mark Dagnell
joked before Game one, he was like, given the Thibodeau
(18:27):
is just fired. He was asked, you feel like a
veteran coach now, and he goes, no, not when you
look down across the other sideline and there's Rick who's
obviously twenty five years older than the forty year old there.
But I think the biggest thing since they've acquired Halliburn,
it's just worked out seamiously as he's trusted him entirely.
You do not see Rick slowing down the offense. You
don't see him call him out many plays whatsoever. Where
(18:50):
he will occasionally take over is if they give up
three straight baskets that they refer to as a kill there,
then he's going to burn a time out because he
doesn't tolerate that outside of that. There may be no
better example than the end of the game. Right eleven
seconds Drew Demhart gets to stop on Shake Gildes Alexander.
Majority of coaches probably use a time out there, let's reset,
(19:11):
let's draw up the play. I'm gonna get criticized if
I don't. That has been a common thing for the
Pacers to not call a timeout because one they don't
want the defense to be set and two they want
to want them to be backpedaling on their heels. Maybe
there's cross matches, etc. So you had Wallace, not Luke
Dort for example, on Tyree Aliverton down in the stretch.
And so by not calling the time out, trusting your star,
(19:32):
trusting a guy that you've had a three plus year
relationship with. And by the way, Rick tried to draft
him in Dallas, he couldn't get enough to move up
and take him. So it was a situation here, guys,
where in Indiana, Rick finally was able to have the
assets to go and get the guy he wanted. Several
years earlier, you're listening.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
To Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
I'm Anti Blana, so alongside former All Pro safety Carry Roads,
and we're talking to Indiana Pacers and Fever Beat reporter
Scott Agnes, who is in Oklahoma City. Scott Wee literally
just talked about Rick Carlisle not calling that time out
very I trust my team approach, which a lot of
coaches don't want to do that. They don't they kind
(20:12):
of hold on to tight in those moments. And that's
what I was like, what a badass move from Rick
Carlisle to.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Knock all that time out in that moment.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
But question for you now, I know it's may be
early to ask, but right now, where would you put
Tyrese Halliburn in the great Pacers of all time?
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Like me, Well, here's the thing. You have to go
back further than where I existed, right, I have to
go back to the ABA days when the Pacers worthy
dominant team. And there there's why there's a big reason
why there's several different players jerseys hanging in the rafters there.
But I think he's probably jumped in into that top
five and pushing towards one of the best players in
(20:58):
just such a short time. He's up there with Red
g I think I saw the stat where he already
has as many game time and game winning shots and
clutch as Reggie and as close there with Lebron. So
because of that and how and how much he has
embraced the city and brought winning back. They were in
the lottery three straight years he came here. I think
he was in the lottery one year.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Dealt with that.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
But since it's been back to back conference titles and
now in the NBA Finals, so the first time in
a quarter century.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Scott Scott, I got one more. I got one more
for you. On my end, I said coming into the
series also that it's really going to be determined from
my eyes, between two matchups, and it's two set up,
it's two players from each team, and that matchup is
going to be key in winning this series. And it
was and Turner versus Williams and Chat and obviously it
(21:43):
seems like at the end of that game in Game one,
in the box score, it looks like siakam in Turn
of one, and so you know the Pacers won that game.
How big is that matchup gonna be in this series?
Speaker 1 (21:54):
In your eyes?
Speaker 5 (21:56):
Yeah, it's significant. The one way in which the Pacers
h make things interesting as they can play small, they
can play big, and right away before Game one right.
We saw the younger and more less an experienced coach
there make it, make a tweak spretting lineup. Now, long
term it might be the right decision, but I sat
back and go, yep, a veteran coach generally doesn't do that.
(22:16):
It's we're going to beat them with what we have.
We're not going to adapt at all. But in terms
of winning this series, I've said all along, the Oakham
is the key. While Halibert makes the big play, most
oftentimes the finishing play, the Oakham what he does on
both ends of the floor, and on top of that,
what he does in the locker room when we're not there,
that's in large part, and he's not getting enough credit.
That's a large part why the team is having success
(22:38):
and where they are today because of his wisdom, his
championship experience, G League, NBA, and he's also allowed to
seam and empowered them. Hey, look, don't take this for granted.
I wouldn't sure if I'd ever get back. And then
Myles Turner yesterday saying, look, I've been in the league
ten years, all with the Pacers, I wouldn't sure if
I'd ever actually get to this point. So we're not
taking this for granted whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
I was wrong Scott when I spoke to you, when
we spoke to you a couple of weeks ago, I
was like, I just don't see how the Pacers can
win by committee.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
I have been proven wrong.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
And I actually took the Pacers to win in six
What do you think the alcohol I.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
Wow. A little bit bull obviously, but given the fact. Look,
in the first three series the Pacers have won games
one in Game two, yeah, we tried to make it
four for four here tonight and the last these last
three series have all been on the road, so they're
not phased by the extra noise. And I thought the
most notable thing perhaps to come out of interviews yesterday
was how so many guys were like wow, I played
(23:38):
in so many big environments, including coming off the last
series in New York, I've never heard anything like it.
We have these hand signals. There was a moment where
a three minute moment where they they couldn't even hear
anything going on within the team. And again though, I
will say that's one of the big reasons why the
Pacers have an advantage, because they're not calling place it's
all read and react. You don't have to tell people
where to go. It's more let's get into the flow
(24:00):
with things and from there based on reads, that's how
they move along. So no, I don't think that's that
landish at all. I think it's clear the Thunder of
the best team. They've been the best team all series long.
But the Pacers have so many things working to their
advantage as well.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Just unreal.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Scott, thank you so much for squeezing time. I know
you're busy. Tip off in about two and a half hours.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Yeah, Mossy's got to get back. He's get back.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Yes, thank you, Scott. We appreciate you. Enjoy the game.
Let's go Pacer alright.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
You guys can follow Scott Agnes on ex Twitter at
Scott Agnes with two s's at the end there in
case you're looking out for him. And I had so
many questions but I forgot to even ask him how
Caitlyn Clark was doing.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
I'm I forgot. I forgot.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
But Caylyn Clark is still injured, even though the Fever
did have a nice easy win yesterday against the Chicago Sky,
but I'm sure the w n b A misses her
and h those ratings and those ticket prices.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
I said the ticket for the game was fifty cent
or something.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, I think a little cintel. Yeah that was I
think so a little cintel. But I do think it
was like five dollars, like I'm not Yeah, I think
it was real cheap to get your foot in the door.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Not fifty cents cheap. But I know it was a five.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
It was.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
It was a five. Oh wow, that was. He gave
us a lot of information.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
The loudness of Madison Square Garden. Yeah, this probably doesn't
compare having to give.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Signals to each other, cues to each other.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yea, Like if they feel like that was maybe the
toughest atmosphere, this has gotta be cake.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
I didn't even think of that.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Did he say Did he say that? I thought he
meant okay Se was louder. Oh I'm not sure. I'm
not sure. Yeah, but I would think so because okay
see is extremely loud Madison Square Garden. It's too many
celebrities for it to be that loud.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
I thought it was the last series. So even if
it's here, wow there, look at them, go, look at them?
Speaker 7 (25:52):
Go.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Well, why don't we check in with our technical producer
who was doing double duty today giving us a little
rundown for update.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Chris bet Parfe, Chris Parfa Parfe. I could use a parfa.
I really could actually frozen yogurt.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
McDonald's getting rid of their fruit yogurt parfa was Yeah, West,
things they've ever.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Gotten, abomination domination.
Speaker 7 (26:14):
Hey, we're bringing back the the stack rap, bring back
the par fay too. I'm angry about the snack crap
coming back though, because I just know it's not going
to be snack wrap price anymore. We're going to charge
you like four dollars for that crape and be like,
what what are we doing?
Speaker 1 (26:29):
What are we doing?
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Like I I I don't. I know I shouldn't doom
about my cheap junk food, but hey, no, anyway, we
are counting down to the NBA Finals. Game to tonight
eight pm Eastern Oklahoma City Pacers. One game up earlier
today Carlos Alcarez, big Yannick Skinner after like five hours
plus of tennis to win the French Open, and in
(26:51):
between that, We've got a lot going on right now.
Going to catch you up on some scores. I'm going
to start actually with this soccer going on right now
u WAIFA Nations League. We are going to penalty kicks
between Portugal and Spain tied to to to after one
hundred and twenty minutes of rough play out there. And
(27:11):
these these are two nations that do not like each
other whatsoever. So this is going to be solved in
a way that nobody likes, which is penalty kicks. Earlier
in baseball, let's catch you up on some baseball action.
Dodgers seventy three over the Cardinals. Clayton Kershaw picks up
the win, throws seven strikeouts. He's at two nine, seven
six right now, twenty four to go, twenty four to
(27:34):
go to three thousand. If you're keeping track at home.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
I think it's seventeen what seventeen away? I think no, no, no, no,
I think twenty four.
Speaker 7 (27:42):
Seventy six one hundred minus seventy six is twenty four.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Carry on, I okay.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
Paul Skeene's fiction to the eighth inning, and Andrew McCutcheon
hit a go ahead single, Pirates top the Phillies two
to one, and right we're counting down to Yankees Red Sox.
Later on, Mets blowing out the Rockies.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Ten to two. Who hasn't these days?
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Tigers blanked the Cubs for zero. It's been a sellout
crowd at co America part in Detroit for this entire
weekend for the Cubs and the Tigers. I think they
set some attendance records. They'll get you those numbers here
soon enough. Rangers right now over the Nationals at the
bottom of the eighth four to two, and Super Regionals
as we get closer to the College World Series in Omaha.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Louisville did talp Miami earlier.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
Right now going on top of the seventh, number three,
Arkansas eight to one over Tennessee, UCLA number fifteen two
oh over the ut San Antonio, Monsey and Carrie.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Back to you, Thanks Chris. You're listening to Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
I am anti velanyas with Carrie Rhodes. All right, Kerry,
get it ready for Game two of the NBA Finals.
But this past week Adam Silver, com mature of the
NBA revealed some information about the upcoming All Star Game,
save that it's going to be now Team World versus
Team US of A.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Why not what they've tried everything else, tried something else?
I mean it actually it sounds enticing. Sure, I wonder
if like the.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
World, no, the World would kick ass.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Sure, but what if the World is a is an
All Star. Is that something that's going to take away
from the World or is it just the word because
now you're messing with All Stars.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Now you're saying that maybe people are gonna be All
Stars that necessarily aren't to try and fill.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
The roster for World. Yes, like that. I don't know
how that. I don't see what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
So, because if you're an All Star, you should represent
the All Star, right, So now, huh a right, think
about that, Like that's that's something that spikes my interest.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
But like French players of an All Star like right,
like who you know?
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Like I was complaining about Norman Powell not making the
All Star right, like, uh, Shay are producer or may
have more on this.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Yeah, So I think it's more assumed, Like when I'm
reading the potential lineups for these kinds of things, it's
kind of assumed that these guys hopefully will be All Stars.
So like reading right now, team Team World, the starters
would be Sga Yea Luka, Doncic, Joannis Victor Webin Yama
Nicole and they.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Beat whoever they play, so they already be in exactly.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
So they've already be in the All Star pool.
Speaker 8 (30:27):
They shouldn't be in that, I mean, unless they're having
a really bad year. I'm assuming those guys would all
be All Stars.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
And then on Team.
Speaker 8 (30:35):
USA side, it's Steph Curry, Anthony Edwards, Jason Tatum, maybe
Lebron James, which I'm iffy on.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
He's playing he's not gonna play it because he can't
lose to a Team World exactly.
Speaker 8 (30:47):
And then Anthony Davis, Oh man, the world's going to
destroy me.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
No, the World's gonna And that's the first initial thing
I thought, which is like, I'm I mean, I'm down
for it, but I was like, the.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
World is going to destroy Team USA.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
I agree, and see if it's If it's that way,
that part would be confusing to me because they are
entrenched as All Stars in general. So how did you
separate that just because you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Yeah, they have to, you know, like if you think
about it, maybe it is more even than we think already,
and that's why they're moving in this direction. Like if
you look at the last couple of All Star selections,
maybe it's a lot more even, and that's why they're.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Going to do this.
Speaker 8 (31:22):
It seems really like looking at the reserves even it's like,
for for the world side, it's Pascal, this is just Therese,
Pascal Karl, Anthony towns Alpa and Sangoon like like Sabonis Zubac,
Jamal Murray who's from Canada. And then on the world
side where there deserves it's Tyres Haliber and Jalen Brunson,
Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant, Kate Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Devin Booker.
(31:45):
So I mean it seems very fair, honestly the starters
in Yeah, yeah, I do think Team World would win
in this scenario.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Absolutely, And you know, like as long the thing is like, you.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Can drive it whatever you want, but the only thing
that matters is competitiveness.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
That's what really the fans are looking forward to.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
So make it competitive and you know, turn it around
one year at a time, and if not, then get
rid of the.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
All Star Game. Not forever, but just like take a
break from it. Don't have it for like three years.
Let the fans be like, damn, you know what I miss? Yeah,
the All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
They should bring that back, and then all of a sudden,
you bring it back Jerseys. Yeah, you know, all of
a sudden again, We're gonna talk about marketing, Carrie in
the next hour. Don't go anywhere, because we're gonna talk
about marketing in the next hour. The marketing is what
matters here, and so like, get rid of it for
like two three years and then bring it back.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
But we'll see what happens with.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
The World versus USA and the upcoming NBA All Star Game.

in the NFL. It should be. We'll dive into that.
Don't go anywhere. He's carry on, Monzi. This Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
Sports.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
It is Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
I am Monty Belanya's alongside former All Pro safety Carry
Ruds hanging out with you.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
I don't I don't even know. I'm gonna need you
just send me that. You do have to send me.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
He was just showing me a clip of babies being
used in place of Charles Barkley sha Jet. So these
little babies in little little babies in suits and they're
just using them.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
But it's the voice of actually you know Shaq.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
And Charles, and Charles is apologizing to the women of
span Antonio. But it's just so funny because it's these
little babies, you know, in these suits. It's like those
commercials for the gummies where they use adults with the
baby voices.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Those are so good.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
I just want to I want to I want to
apologize to the women Antonio googe.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Those are good? Is buddy?
Speaker 2 (34:05):
You said so that you had to send that to
me because I feel like other people need to see that.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
I know, that's so so good.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I don't know if people need to see Aaron Rodgers
as a Steeler, but we are. Everybody get ready, it's abny.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
He's been We've been waiting on it, all of us,
and then he decides to reveal that information on Game
one of the NBA Finals, which I thought was so funny.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
I was like, of course you want us to talk
about you on today's day. But it's fine, it's fine. Listen.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
There was a story earlier in the week that we
I joked that. I was like, that was not plan
A or Plan B. They did not want Aaron Rodgers.
And there was information that know they did it, that
the Steelers actually really really wanted to resign justin Fields.
Then they were looking to trade for Matthew Stafford. And
when all of that fell through, they're like, ohay, Aaron Rodgers, right,
(34:57):
you're up.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Next, Mabe, come on down, come on down. And Aaron
Rodgers like, let me think about it. He's thought about it.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
One year deal thirteen point six five million, ten million guaranteed,
can be worth up to nineteen point five million with incentives.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Mandatory Mini camp starts Tuesday. He says he's gonna be
there week one against the Jets. They're now favorites. They're
not favorites to win, three boy favorites. I love that.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Yeah, No, I love that matchup right away, like give
it up for the NFL and knowing how to market things, yes,
because nobody cares about Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. But
now you're telling me week one against the Jets. Yes,
oh I'm in fayed less stay less. But I'm here
at the point where we both agree. We said this
(35:43):
a couple of weeks ago before it was official. He's
not giving the Steelers the magic to now win the division. No,
you're not winning the division if anything like you're trying
to stay above five hundred, which is what Mike Tomlin
has been doing was his entire career, and so if
that is what you're going for, then I think.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
You can get that.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Well, I this is what I think. Yes, no way
they're winning that division. But we talked about it. I
think last week. We talked about it last week. There's
a butt there. We talked about it last week, and
we just saw a division put three teams in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Yep, we did.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
We saw that right. Yes, that wasn't the fact of
my imagination, was it. That was a real thing. So
if you talk about the AFC North and you talk
about those teams, if he's able to stay around five
hundred and all of a sudden win a couple of
games and sneaking the playoffs, I think that would be
a success for the Steelers in this and this It.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Would be a sneak it.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Well, I don't know how good Cincinnati really is. I mean,
obviously they got weapons, but are they that much better
than the Steelers?
Speaker 1 (36:48):
I mean they won nine games last year, still was
one ten. Like that's what I'm saying. I understand, and
that's my point.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
I'm putting more money on the Bangles to be a
smidge better, right, like you have to. There were so
many games that they lost but yet outscored everyone and
their mom It's just their defense.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Couldn't stop anybody.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
So you can only assume, hey, we we fine tune
a tiny bit our defense and we have this great offense.
I'm only assuming that the Bengals, you know, and like
it's Bengals Ravens.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
To me in that division?
Speaker 5 (37:16):
Right?
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Wrong, Okay, I'm sorry, babe, it's not don't even have
a quarterback right now.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
I like the Browns of the Dark Corse as well,
but it's just too many and that it's.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
A tough division.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
And if they weren't a different division, it's a different story.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Is going for two just Blacks going for two?
Speaker 2 (37:38):
So I I feel like at this point, Aaron, just
announce that it is your final year.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Just announce it no, because then that was kind of
fit the narrative that he wants all the attention on
the fair World tour.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
You want the attention, but he wants the attention.
Speaker 8 (37:54):
But if he says it, we already know what just
tell us and that there is even more excitement to
watch a Steelers game.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
When when does he ever do that? When does he
like really show all his cards?
Speaker 2 (38:07):
I get that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
He can.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
It's time to just tell us it's your final year.
You're here to help the Steelers in this season where
maybe they don't have a quarterback, just to get them
through the next year.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Like, just announce it, Aaron, Just tell us it's your
last season, because it should be. It should be. I'll
eat my words.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
If you go to the Super Bowl at Hey, I'm
gonna put a nice little bowl of right in between us.
I don't know if it's gonna happen, but any competitor
that as talented as Aaron Rodgers was not gonna go
out like he went out last year. And this team,
the Steelers just made the playoffs last year. This isn't
a bad team he's joining. He's not if he plays.
(38:54):
If he plays like he did down the stretch of
last season, that team will have a chance to make
the playoffs. And it's not just a farewell tour in
that regard.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
You listen, you could say, you can give me all
these hypotheticals.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
You give me all these wonderful hypotheticals, What about this,
what about that?
Speaker 1 (39:09):
I don't see it.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
There's a lot of really good teams out there, and
he just doesn't make that jump. For me, I know,
towards the end of his year last year in New York,
it looked better.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
It looked better. But at the same time, I'm just like,
you are a little you are older you.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
I don't I would be very surprised if this is
more successful than above five hundred and sneaking into the playoffs,
and I mean sneaking in where you got in because
somebody lost and they you know, they screwed their own.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Deskliny correct, like something happened. That is how I think
you're gonna sneak in. And for me, it's just like
just say it's a farewell tour, just call it what
it is. I'm not doing it. You're not doing it.
Why not voice I'm not doing it.
Speaker 9 (39:56):
Well.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Listen, the Knicks decided to do something and I don't
agree with it, but we're gonna talk about next.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
This is Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
We got to get you a nickname right now, I mean,
or some type of intro with it.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
With your name is not just all.
Speaker 7 (40:13):
You.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
We got to get you something. What's what's your thing?
What we're going to do for you?
Speaker 1 (40:16):
I don't know, but that's good. Let's think about it.
I like this.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
I like this.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Everybody Happy Sunday Fox Sports Radio coming to you live
from La Carry Rhoads.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
Monte b is trying to give me a catch here
to get something for you.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
What can I What can I be like like pizza
loving Monte Billanos or like.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Yeah, something you know, like something that described.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
Like tequila clippers, pizza. You know, we'll think of something.
I like this.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
I like this, well, brainstorm right we are hanging out
with you for the next two hours, not as long
as a Yonick Center and Carlos Alcarez played in the
French Open.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
I was almost six hours. I can't I cannot imagine
that long.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
I'm trying to think of anything that I do for
six hours would I still be happy at you know
what I mean, right.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Right, Like I'm thinking to six hours, six hours, like
what six hours at Disneyland.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Yeah, but but but you're hired after you're ready to
go and ready to go, you're not excited at all.
You could sleep for six hours. You love sleeping? I do.
I do?
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Okay, look you know what thing the crazy part is
I love sleeping, yes, but I also love the studio.
I'm making music. I can be there for you.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
You could be there for and just get lost and
just get lost easy.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Yeah yeah, no, I'm like I would be Yeah, that's
like you said, like it's by yourself.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
By yourself, fighting by yourself, by yourself, that part.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
Yeah, no, it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
Congratulations to Carlos Alcoraz defending his Roland Garros title against
Yannick Center in a in a thrilling match. If you
haven't watched it, just watched the end of It's so
so good. But this week, Harry, something happened that I
was genuinely surprised about.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
And no it was not Aaron Rodgers. All that was happening.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
The New York Knicks, the Nickobaca's fellow a little short.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
To maybe I don't. I don't know if they fell short.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
That's like, I know, they felt like they could win, right, Like,
I get all that, but they decide that they need
to make a change, and the changes firing Tom Thibodeau.
I was so surprised about this not I also thought
it was real quick after it happened, Like you.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
Didn't even really think about it.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
You didn't even take a moment go take a vacation,
you know, like and think about whether you really wanted
to fire this guy who put you back on the map.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Guys, like, really think about where the Knicks were at
one point.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
They were not important to talk about.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
They weren't on the list of teams that you had
to be like, we have to see what the Knicks
are doing.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
In five years. He takes them to the postseason four
of those years. They get better every year, you know,
like every year they get a little further and including
this year getting to the Eastern Conference Finals. Yep, puts
them back on the map.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
That's the best way to put it, right, A team
that is that's that's everybody wants to talk about the Knicks,
but there was not really a lot of reason to
for many years puts them back on the map, and
then they just say, yeah, I think you've taken us
as far as we can go.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
We're changing direction.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
I got a question for you, Jess. How much do
you think social media was the reason that he got fired?
Speaker 1 (43:31):
I would hope not.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
I hate that, I know, but think about it.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
I stop, stop, don't tell me it was social media.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Wants to think about it. Everybody's been you know, contradictory
of the way he doesn't play as bench. I mean
that's spread on social media like wow, like a wild file.
Speaker 1 (43:47):
Right.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
Also, do you think if they lost to Boston in
the Eastern Conference Finals would he still have a job
versus the Pacers. I think that part of it is
an intricate piece.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
In this absolutely because as I was saying, it's like,
I don't know what their expectations were going into the
postseason r because not many people had you beating the
Celtics right right, or coming back from twenty point deficits.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Nobody had that. So like when you.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
Got to the Eastern Conference finals, did the expectations and
in the Skyrockets you having to get to the finals
when you just got Carl Anthony Towns in a very
shocking trade that happened, you know, during the season. I
just was like, what do you I Yes, we were
maybe critical at times for him not going into his
bench earlier than he did, but they still went far
(44:36):
and just we're a couple of tweaks away. I was
really surprised, and I wasn't the only one that was
surprised about this firing.
Speaker 10 (44:46):
When I first saw it, it came over one of
the you know, I thought it was one of those
fake AI things. You know, that's the way, It's the
way possible. And I know how the players feel about
him too. But Tom will certainly be, certainly be fine.
I don't think he's gonna have any problem finding it.
Finding his next job is just gonna depend on when
he's ready to jump back in again.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
That was Rick Carlisle, head coach of the Indiana Piecers.
Because yes, it from two thousand and like one or
two thousand and two, the Knicks had twelve different coaches
up until they got to Tom Thibodeau. Wow, and in
those twelve in those thirteen twelve different coaches that they had,
they won one playoff game and then Thibodeau shows up
(45:30):
and here again Carrie like make me under one playoff
game and then this man does all of this for
you and you just say not enough to get over
the hump.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
What is the hump? What hump are you talking about?
I don't know?
Speaker 3 (45:46):
Nineteen seventy eight, Okay, back in time.
Speaker 1 (45:50):
Here, like I don't.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
I'm flabbergasted by this move. Who else is out there? No,
Jay Wright says he's staying retired. Don't talk to him.
Speaker 3 (45:59):
Jason, they stayed, Josh Hart.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
Stay retired or something. He joked, He joked about it.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
I know there they've been. There's been whispers of them
trying to poach Jason Kidd. But I also saw that
the Mavericks said they're not going to allow an interview.
So that's another one. Uh, Mike Malone I heard out.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
There, Michael Malone, I guess.
Speaker 3 (46:20):
But yeah, you got Tom Thibodeau. You got a guy
that the players love. And that's the crazy part about it.
We talked about them having a short bench or whatever,
but there the players don't. They've made no quarrels about it.
What's the what's the issue? And that's why I don't
understand what it is outside of us maybe talking about
(46:41):
it or social media talking about the stuff that's go
that goes on with their bench and not being able to,
you know, give other guys an opportunity. And I mean
that's all I can see it.
Speaker 5 (46:51):
Right.
Speaker 2 (46:51):
It seems like it's did you rub somebody the wrong way?
Did somebody say something that that that just went to
James Dolan? Is James guy? I don't know, and like
I don't, I just don't know who your other options
really are. Michael Malone, yes, because he was fired. Also yeah,
like Jeff Van.
Speaker 1 (47:09):
Gundy, No, no, no, he's happy, happy with the Clippers.
They get your hands off of him. Okay, he doesn't
he doesn't need to go back there. Dan Hurleier and
he said, no, he's not leaving Yukon said.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
Rick Patino said no, Like I I just don't know
who you think is.
Speaker 1 (47:23):
And then I wonder, Okay, do you think they want a.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
Quote unquote players coach? Because Tom Toto is not that right,
Like he's a hard headed. We've talked about it. He's
stuck in his ways. Do you think he wants more
of a Do they want more of a player's coach,
a different like like a younger view.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
I don't know because I just don't know who your options.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Are here, and any coach that comes in, don't they
have to go to the finals? Now, don't they have
to go to the He's in conference finals at least,
and then wouldn't that be a failure.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
Yeah, the pressure of the guy coming behind is going
to be astronomical. Yes, I don't know who wants this job. Well,
somebody will take the job because they're gonna get paid nicely,
but outside of that, I don't know. I don't know
what they're looking for. Again, this team. Nobody thought this
team coming into the year was going to win a championship.
So why is the coach that took them to the
(48:17):
Eastern Conference finals being fired? I think we're on the
same page. It shouldn't have happened, But I don't I
don't know. I don't think we understand why a lot
of general managers or owners make the decisions they make,
and so we'd have to dive a little deeper, and
you know, maybe there's some insight that we're missing here,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (48:34):
And it also does it seemed quick Again, you couldn't
think about this like mull it over.
Speaker 1 (48:40):
Maybe see what happens in a month. See how you're feeling.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Have a cocktail. Really, just think about some pizza with
some pizza. I'm just like, it seemed so fast, and
I don't understand, especially when the story came out of
like Carl Anthony Towns struggling when it came on the
defensive side of the ball, like making decisions that and
did not communicating why he was moving or not covering
(49:05):
a certain player, and like all of that comes out
and then knowing that again, you put this team together,
this is our first time playing together, and you got
pretty damn close. Yeah, pretty damn close.
Speaker 3 (49:17):
It seems likes a messy. It could be like a
little mess underneath because also there has been reports talking
about some of the guys worried about Dalen Bronson's dad's
role with that team as well. So there's some there's
some I think there's an inkling of something that's underneath
the surface that we don't know yet.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
All right, well that one, and we're gonna blame the
Maverickshow how about that Mavericks should never let him go.
Speaker 1 (49:40):
Maverick's not an opportunity to keep Jalen Brunson. Yes they
did twice, Yes they did twice.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
He was like, no, I want to be here, like
I think about it, and then he got real good
and he was like, oh, I'll be here, but now
I gotta pay me more money exactly twice. So I'm
gonna blame the Mavericks on that one. I know that's
your team. Was Nico Harrison there.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
Is he was not there?
Speaker 6 (49:57):
He was not Yes he was this first year.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
Look at this is all in Nico Harrison's fault. Still
it is is still Nigo Harrison's fault. Yeah, Like.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
This is one of those like we talked about, oh,
who wants to coach the Lakers? But the Lakers have
been like, yes, I know they won in the bubble
and like they have Lebron James and stuff, but like
to say that, like you have to maintain this level
of success for the Lakers who have been up and down. No,
you just don't want that job because it's Lakers and
you don't want to go coach Lebron And it's a
lot of work with the Knicks.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
Now, it's like you want me to take over a
team that.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
Got to the Eastern Conference finals just because the coach rubbed.
Speaker 1 (50:34):
You the wrong way?
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Like, is that where we're at that's interesting, you said,
my mind, you know how I got you Rick Carlisle. Yes,
I think the connection with this and Tom Thibodau being
fired after an Eastern Conference final, that's happened to Rick
Carlisle before.
Speaker 1 (50:54):
And so just that dynamic there.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
I think that's why he spoke up about it and
was so prominently speaking up about it. Sure, but then
you know he he gets gets fired from there and
goes on to greener pastures, right, And so for Tom Thibodeau,
I mean, obviously the Mecca is the Mecca and it
was a great job to have, and you know, has
some success. But I'm sure, like Rick said, he'll bounce
back and hopefully find a place where he is appreciated
(51:19):
because he's a good coach.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
He is a good coach.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
We talked about Rick Carlisle in the first hour obviously
a lot and his changes.
Speaker 1 (51:26):
He's been around a long time, so is Tom Thibodeau. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
But Carlisle, I asked you, like back then if he
was a bit of more intense, more of a hothead,
because he is very calm, cool and collected right now
and letting the players play and trusting his players.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
So does Tom, because Tom is.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
Still pretty calm as well, you know, but he is
a hands on coach. He is the one going to call,
likely the time out, likely try to run a play,
likely to do that. So do you think like he
has to change his ways like our coaches have to
adjust now to being more hands off and more of
a player's coach.
Speaker 1 (52:04):
Is that the appealing coach right now?
Speaker 3 (52:06):
It depends on the personnel. And that's what we talked about, right, Like,
he has the personnel to do that now, exactly what
you're speaking about, right He has an all star player,
he has a guy that could be in the MVP
running obviously, I'm sure he probably was somewhere in that
running in Jalen Bronson. So you do need to actually
take a step back and give those guys to freedom.
(52:29):
And the thing about Tom Thibodeau, which has been his past,
is he's been a defensive coach. And so when you
talk about the rumors of Kat and him not being
able to do some of the things that they want
to do defensively and for them to fail the way
they failed in those moments against the Pacers where it
was defensive breakdowns, that's where you talk about like the
(52:51):
chain of communication being broken and maybe everybody not all in.
But again, Carl is this this is the first year
in this new system. So no, it's a lot, it's
a lot.
Speaker 1 (53:01):
I don't know. I'm just I'm genuinely surprised about it.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
And I don't know who else is out there that
that you think is the answer here. Hopefully it works
out for the Knicks, but they were so close, Like
even with this miscommunication that Carl Anthony Towns had.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
On the defensive side of the ball, you.
Speaker 2 (53:21):
Still managed to win, and you still manage to have comebacks,
and you still manage to get to the Eastern Conference
Finals against a team that a lot of people you know,
did not take seriously like me, And here they are
now I've taken them to win the Pacers.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
So it's just like I it's a I think they
made a rash decision.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
It's a brutal it's a brutal It's a brutal.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
Profession, a brutal profession, And I always hate that a
lot of times the coach has to be the scapegoat,
like you need a reason to find an answer as
to why you lost, and you blame it on the
coach where reality it's like, no, sometimes it's the players, guys,
you know, like it's not always the coach making the decisions.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Yeah, I won.
Speaker 3 (54:01):
Do you know how many years Tom was there live?
Speaker 1 (54:04):
Is it five? Five?
Speaker 2 (54:05):
And they went to the playoffs in four or five
And every year was like a little further, just to
switch further.
Speaker 1 (54:12):
And that's exactly what they got, even further this year.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
And you think about it, next year, Boston is not
going to be the same. No, Milwaukee's not going.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
To be the same. Milwaukee blow that one up.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
Yeah, Like they could have come into next year with
another piece and been the favorite to win, which is
which is crazy?
Speaker 1 (54:30):
And oh that exactly it. Your roster is what you
need to improve, Yes, not your coach. Yeah, your roster.
A couple of tweaks, a couple of ones. That's a couple.
That's all you needed. And it was not your coach.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
Jalen Brunson had his back the minute they were eliminated.
Speaker 1 (54:48):
Like they asked him about it, He's like, is this
a real question?
Speaker 2 (54:50):
When they were asking about Tom Thibodeau's you know, security
as a coach, He's like, is this a real question?
Like I love him, Like of course it really I
don't I don't add again, I don't know who is
out there that you think is going to come in
and do a better job than Tom Thibodeau with his crew.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
Yeah, you heard that. That was it. That's how we
feel about it, all right.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
Well, maybe we'll get some answers when it comes to
the Knicks and Tom Thibodeau in the coming weeks and months.
But we are getting closer to the start of the NFL, Carrie,
and we've got some quarterbacks that are they injured.
Speaker 1 (55:24):
Or are they not?
Speaker 2 (55:25):
Let's talk to Adam Kaplan so he can give us
the real suit. Yeah, don't go anywhere. He's Carrie, I'm
Monty and this is Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 1 (55:34):
There, I am. I've been not off the mic. I
was off the mic. It's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
It's a good thing. It's a good thing. Guys, Mary
mac on the ones and tunes In case you can't
figure that out based on the tools we've got going
on right now, she's hanging out with a share Our producer,
Christophered is still here.
Speaker 1 (55:48):
He's just moved over to the anchor studio.
Speaker 2 (55:50):
As uh, we like to play musical chairs occasionally here,
but it's a good one.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
It's a good song. Sorry. Sometimes Shane says things.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
In my ear and it throws me off and I
forget that it's not on air, it's in my ear.
Speaker 1 (56:08):
So that was that moment of silence. Yeah, you guys
are hanging out with me.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Monty Belanyas and former All Pro safety Carrie Roads. Carrie,
what is your Twitter? Is it just at Carrie Roads
or is it something fancy.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
At Carrie twenty five Roads? Ooh right, that's right, that's
not fancy. That's just because I got I shut my
Twitter down for a long time.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
No, I know, I know that's I remember you and
they kind of start over.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
I did.
Speaker 3 (56:32):
I had like over a million something followers on x Twitter,
and I was like, I'm done with this, I'm done,
cut it off, and somebody stole my name, so.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
Carry five Roads to deactivate.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
I did deactivate, and that's what happened. I was off
for so long that, Yeah, they delete.
Speaker 1 (56:47):
The account after a while. Twenty five because that's the
number you were.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
You were is your birthday because my birth is on
on the twenty fifth, So I remember when I learned
you wore twenty five.
Speaker 1 (56:57):
I was like, oh, the synergy was Yeah, I was ill.
Never forget that because twenty five is a big number
for my birthday.
Speaker 2 (57:02):
So you can follow Carrie Carrie five Roads just like that.
Do you follow me at Monty Belonga us on social
media as well, or you know Fox Sports Radio two
as well, but you can also follow Adam Kaplan, our
NFL insider at Kaplan NFL.
Speaker 1 (57:21):
Adam, how's it going, Happy Sunday.
Speaker 9 (57:24):
It's good to be with you. We we finally can
put the Aaron Rodgers stuff. Well, obviously we could talk
about it, but we finally got that done, so that
that big story's out and we'll see about the Steelers
this season. The bookmakers have not moved anything. They don't
think much of them.
Speaker 1 (57:40):
No, but.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
What's that MASSI does not either add No, I could understand.
Speaker 9 (57:45):
Well, we can discussed that. And by the way, we
a lot of teams are ending their all season program
this week. Some are gonna continue about a week or so.
But yeah, we're as Cary knows as a former player,
these OTAs, once they wrap up, you get a little
time off.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Yes, right, all right, yeah, no, this whole thing with
Aaron Rodgers. I just said to Carrie.
Speaker 2 (58:03):
I was like, can you just announce that it's like
your final year and make it a farewell tour? Like,
I'm just yeah, there's nothing else here, although we are excited.
We said week one against the Jets, that's kind of
an interesting little matchup to start things off.
Speaker 1 (58:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (58:17):
Yeah, And there's no coincidence here all.
Speaker 5 (58:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (58:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (58:21):
It's funny being on being on the national media call
every year with the league after the schedule comes out,
they try to explain stuff they're about quarterback matchups. They said, look,
they were just going on what they thought would happen.
They don't know. They didn't know for sure. Neither did
the Steelers that Rogers going to sign, but they had
a pretty good idea it was going to happen. So
(58:41):
now you have it. The Steelers will be at the
Jets week one, where the Steelers are ready. They're minus three.
They are three point favorite on the road here with
Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback. But you know, overall they
still have the eight and a half win total. Now.
Mike Tomlinson Mike Tomlin over eighteen seasons has never had
a losing record, right, but he has one of the playoff
games it's twenty sixteen. He's owned five over that time.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
Well, the crazy part about that matchup in general, it's
now going to be the Aaron Rodgers Rebands Bowl. But
I want to go on the other side and say,
it's the Justin Fields.
Speaker 11 (59:13):
I know you were going to Yeah, sure, sure, So
like let's talk about that part of it, right Obviously
Aaron Rodgers is a trendy thing right now, but I'm
excited to see Justin Fields play against that team as well.
Speaker 9 (59:24):
Yeah, and he's got an interesting contract. So he's got
basically a two year structure on a three year deal.
So he barked something unforeseen. He'll be the starter for
two seasons. And now, for whatever reason, Mike Tomlin wanted
to stick by Russell Wilson, though Arthur Smith wanted to
bench him and go with Justin Fields. Didn't happen, so
Russell finished up the season. It didn't go well, and
then you look at this situation now where the Steelers,
(59:48):
as you know, I've told anyone who talked to me
on FSR like they were not going to go with
Mason Rudolph. That wasn't going to happen. What they would
have done if Rogers decided to retire, they would have
traded for a veteran quarterback. That was their plan. And
you always have to have one this because you just
don't know sometimes it's going to happen. Now to move
this forward here, how good is Steelers going to be?
(01:00:09):
I mean with Russell Wilson. I mean you look at it.
You know you could you could say what you want
about Russell Wilson. It didn't end well certainly for those
those Steelers. Uh, you know, they got handled pretty well
in the playoffs at the Ravens and he added poorly. Now,
what does Aaron Rodgers have left? After he did play
(01:00:31):
a full season, He had twenty eight passing touchdowns. He
did have two injuries that she played with, which I
give him a lot of credit from talking to the Jets,
I mean, they weren't totally sure he's going to play
some weeks, but he did and he toughed it out
and that's great. But Curry, as a former player, when
you get in your forties, I understand you didn't play quarterback,
but all the miles you put on your body, yes,
(01:00:51):
and how many times Aaron has got has gotten hit
over his career, How do you, how do you think
he's going to hold up here?
Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
Well, that's the main dollar question, Adam, And I don't
know how good is the Steelers old line right now
going to bat?
Speaker 9 (01:01:05):
Yeah, so Carrie, They're going to get Trey Fatano back. Now,
he was a first round pick last season. He didn't
wind up playing. He had a tell a tenant injury,
so he'll be the right tackle they feel. They think
Zach Frasier was the second round pick last year. A
center is already one of the best centers in the league.
Now now they have one issue at left tackle, Broderick Jones.
(01:01:26):
He hadn't played particularly well. That's the one weakness they have.
Well that happens to be Aaron Rodgers blind side. Yes,
so that's a problem. Their number two receiver opposite DK Metcalf.
They have to kind of figure that out going forward
after the trade of George Pickens. Obviously Metcalf will be
their their number one receiver. They don't have a number two,
or really a number three now. They definitely think Roman
Wilson would be there at least their three, but he
(01:01:49):
barely played last season due to two injuries, a hamstring
injury and a high ankle sprain, So they got a
lot to score through here, guys that this is the
problem I have with this football team. So you get
a quarterback right, an older quarterback, but you still have
problems left tackle and receivers. So to me, they're marginal
at eight and a half or nine wins.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
Yeah, like they may just stay above five hundred another
season for Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
But I agree, I don't know. I don't know what
else beyond that. And I said to carry if they
sneak into the playoffs, it's because they snooking.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
It's because somebody else lost and they get in, not
because they got in.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
That's what I think. All right, let's move on.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
As you said, quarterbacks are really would drive the NFL
a lot. Anthony Richardson being injured with his shoulder something
that kept him out last season. I mean, Anthony Ridgars,
is it too early to say bust?
Speaker 9 (01:02:42):
Well? Thanks got so desperate, Hanci that they brought in
instead of just betching them and going with another quarterback,
they brought in Daniel Jones Coapete against something. This was
like their their big move. Chris bow the general managers,
he doesn't get it very involved in free and see
likes it built the draft. Unfortunately, these drafts have been
relatively mediocre. So Richardson who people won't remember this, but
(01:03:06):
in twenty twenty three he looked really good. Early on,
he did, and then he got hurt and he's really
I mean, he really did not look good last summer.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
I was told.
Speaker 9 (01:03:18):
He got hurt again and now shoulders bothering him. Yeah,
to answer your question, he's headed towards that. But you
know the problem is he's hurt, so we may never
see what he really looks like now. Daniel Jones, the
Vikings were pretty happy with him. They would have brought
him back as a backup, but he was not going
to compete for a starting job there, so he decided
to sign with Minnesota. Excuse me, with the Colts. We'll
(01:03:40):
see Daniel's healthy. You know, he's had a number of
injuries in his career. The guy did make the playoffs
of twenty two. People forget as their starting quarterback for
the Giants. Then Riley Leonard, a six round quarterback out
of Notre Dame. It will be the number three. Ye Look,
it's this is such a middling team, the Colts. Let's
be honest. About it. Yeah, and that's the thing that
disappoints me. But Anthony Richardson, the other the problem with
him is and this has to go with the lack
(01:04:02):
of play, the lack of practice time, Holly inaccurate. Then
he had the ridiculous situation where he declined to go
back in a game and he got kind of roasted
for it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:04:12):
Uh, some players, from what I understand, within the team
were not real happy with him. He didn't understand, like
you know, Kerry would know this very well. You got it.
No matter what side of the ball you play, you
you you suck it up and you go and play
absolutely and then you tell, you know, tell people after
how you were feeling. So it's you know, they had
the Jonathan Taylor drama the year before. This is just
(01:04:33):
the very middling team and unfortunately Monty you coming back
to you here, Richardson, I have a bad feeling. That's
just we're just never going to see what they thought
he could be.
Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Well, I mean, I'm gonna stick with the quarterback topic.
There's two I went up with. Well, we just talked
about one with Riley Leonard being there is there any
chance that he plays another position? I just I saw
him play. I never thought he'd be an NFL quarterback,
but I thought that, you know, I've been wrong with
that as well. But he looks like for me in
my mind, I can see him play like a tight
end or something.
Speaker 9 (01:05:01):
Or oh he's a big dude, now I know, but
he's not. He didn't have enough weight. No, they want
to go with him as well back. I don't. I
don't see that. In fact, they have too many tight
ends the draft to Tyler Warren, they brought Monwiley cox
back will be their their wife tight end. You now,
we got to see what happens with with Richardson this season.
If he's a train wreck and they're bad? Would it
(01:05:22):
surprise anyone if Riley Leonard leave frog Daniel Jones? So I
might as well take a look at Riley or that
that that evaluation mode decision. But there again, if you're
a Colts fan, as we kind of move on here,
they're super middling. This is the epitome of a five
hundred team.
Speaker 3 (01:05:36):
Am I am my other quarterback with who I've been
hearing rave reviews about in this offseason. We know that
we know the off season all the quarterbacks look good
I mean it's it's on air. They're gonna work on
time on air, Yeah yeah, and get it done. But
I want to talk about J. J. McCarthy from the Videns.
Good talking about so yeah, all right, So here are
a couple of things with McCarthy. Sam Howe was acquired
(01:05:58):
via trade. He'll be his back up. So McCarthy he
had the meniscus surgery.
Speaker 9 (01:06:03):
He got hurt in the first preseason game last year
against the Raiders. This gave us at home. He looked fantastic.
I know it's a preseason game, but you know they
had made a decision that Donald pretty much was going
to be the starter. And how do he not gotten
hurt in that game because he'd come on the final
two weeks before he got hurt of training camp. He
was pushing, He started to push Donald and then unfortunately
(01:06:24):
got hurt. But he's healthy. And one of the reasons
why you know, Rogers called them, they didn't call him.
One of the reasons why they didn't pursue Rogers other
than they left the door open if McCarthy got hurt
in Otez, if he had a setback, which he didn't do,
or if he looked really bad they certainly could have
contacted David Dunne's agent, Rogers agents say hey, listen, let's
(01:06:46):
we're gonna we're going to do it about face year
because McCarthy is not ready, but he is ready barring
some kind of unforeseen issue in Boboy. Sam Howe is
a pretty athletic backup that he's the boy with Washington.
One year he threw for a lot of yards. So
they're in good shape. I mean, they've kind of redone
their offensive line here. They'll get Darrisol back from his
aco injury, so they're feeling pretty good. They made the
(01:07:10):
trade for Jordan Mason, good power back from the Niners.
This is a team not a lot of people are
talking about because the uncertainty of how McCarthy's going to
play in his first season as a starter, which I
totally get, but if he's who they think he is now,
I know some teams had a third round grade carry
on him. A lot of teams did not like McCarthy,
but he had to have his mechanics broken down by
(01:07:31):
Kevin O'Connell. Their head coaches also the play caller, and
it sure looked like in that preseason game his footwork
is much better.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
You're listening to Fox Sports Sunday at Monty Bolanos alongside
former All Pro safety Kerry Rhoades, and we're chatting with
our NFL insider, Adam Kaplan. Adam, it just broke not
I mean not big news, but that Nick Chubb looks
to maybe be signing with the Texans pending a physical tomorrow.
Nick Chubb, I mean I loved him and then he
(01:07:58):
got hurt, and then as a running back, it's kind
of hard to have high expectations after a tough injury
on a.
Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
Running back who's I'm assuming twenty eight years old issue
he's around that time. What do you see?
Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
Is that like a good matchup or is that a
good team for him to join?
Speaker 1 (01:08:15):
Texans, you know, have a lot of weapons. What does
this do for them?
Speaker 9 (01:08:18):
Yeah, he's twenty nine years old, and look he had
a I mean one of the worst knee injuries of
running you've ever had. And I give a guy credit.
So what they're looking for is depth behind Joe Mixon,
who really did well after the trade from the Bengals.
He's played very well that in fact, Damian Pierce, he
did very well as a rookie then they changed their
offensive blocking scheme and he's a bad fit and he
(01:08:39):
hasn't really looked good. He's also in the finale of
Hiss rookie deal. They drafted running back. They drafted Woody
Marks as a fourth rounder. But yeah, this is just
about getting him back up. And good for Nick Chubb
for not giving up to it's thirty for the years out.
So yeah, he'll have a chance certainly to play going
forward here. That's a good se Yeah, because they actually
(01:09:00):
we're on him for about a week, week and a
half and now that I guess the story broke that
he's going to do that. And you know, the one
is show I have for the Texans guys before we
get out here is I don't quite understand what they're
doing with their offensive line. The Tredy tun sold their
star left tackle. They signed Cam Robinson to be a
fill in, and the former Jaguars first round pick who
was pretty much got benched.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
He was good.
Speaker 9 (01:09:20):
They kind of moved on from they didn't want him back.
I don't and they had all sorts of problems for protecting strout.
That for Texans, that is the one thing that'll keep
them from when that division if they don't win, it
is their offensive line one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
That was I'm glad you brought that upbout him, because
obviously the easy narrative was that c J. Stild got worse.
I was like, no, I don't think so. I said,
he's still He's still the guy. He just doesn't have
the same protection. So I'm glad you brought that up.
Speaker 9 (01:09:47):
No problem.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
Last one from me here Jalen Ramsey and the Dolphins.
Is that coming to an end? Are we just waiting
on semantics here?
Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
Like?
Speaker 9 (01:09:55):
Yeah, I mean honestly, once we got past the cap issue,
because you had to get past you in first to
be able to make the trade with the Rams, the
Dolphins are done with him. I mean, he's thirty one
this year. They want to move on they I mean,
I just don't see it happening. You've coming back to
mind based on everything I've heard on the Rams. Now,
(01:10:18):
the issue the hold up is if he goes to
the Rams wherever he goes, how A they're going to
split up the cash because it's over twenty five million,
and they stupidly extend his contract list. I know it's
really dumb. I see they've done I don't that carry.
I don't know why he complained like he like there
(01:10:38):
are a number of players on defense. And second did
not like vic Fangio scheme. Yep, they have match carried
delivery where you match up zone. And then Ramsey was
playing some inside. He didn't like it and there was
some complaining and he obviously saw what Vic Fangrew did
for the Eagles. He turned around the defense. So Ramsey's
got maybe two years left in him. But look he
(01:10:59):
could see still stud I mean, he's got land he
could play. You just have to decide what you're gonna pay,
and the min is gonna have to pick up a
chunk of cash. So yeah, the Rams, the Rams want
to back they've made.
Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
Yeah, Adam, I got one more question for you here.
I mean, still stand with the Ramsey. I think it's
time for him to move the safety as he had
any inklind and doing that because I career.
Speaker 9 (01:11:20):
You know, it's interesting because we saw Charles Wilson do
it a number of corners of of move from corner
to safety late in their career. But we're not at
the point Carry that he can't play corner anymore. Like
he what you know, it's a form and play when
you lose your legs, when you just can't run like
he used.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
To like me, right now, Adam, Well there you go,
all right.
Speaker 9 (01:11:38):
Well you're in your forties forties, right, yeah, so, but
I'm telling you when when that happens, if you're a corner,
you got a choice. I mean, by the way, Cream
Jackson did a great job in Stenning's career of moving
from corner to safety with Denver. Yeah, that's a good
I had not thought about that, but I I the
(01:11:58):
Rams are really good at safety. They're not They're terror
like really bad. I don't know how the heck they've
made the playoffs last year. I almost almost put off
a huge upset at Philly. So yeah, I would that
one to me. I know people are touching that. Cowboys
fans love to have Ramsey because they're also a bed
a corner because Trayvon Dickson is not expected to be
ready for the start of the season coming back from
another procedure on his knee. But the Rams make the
(01:12:18):
most sense because they've a giant need.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
Yeah yeah, Adam, thank you so much for hanging out
with us once again on this Sunday or NFL Insider
Adam Kapelin and you can follow him on ex Twitter
at Kaplan NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 9 (01:12:32):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (01:12:34):
Yep, that's a good idea for Jalen Ramsey there. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
I mean that's when you have lockdown corners that you
start to age a little bit moving especially Ramsey. I
mean he's one of those guys that moves around anyway.
He's not just an outside guy. He's been in the
slot with the Rams, right Yeah, moved around at the
dime nickel position as well. So it's it's something I
can see.
Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Wow, it seems like money is just the issue here
when it comes with the Rams.
Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
So we'll see what happens. But we can check in
with Chris Purfet. You could tell us what's going on
around the world of sports.
Speaker 7 (01:13:03):
Chris Well, the day of baseball is slowly drawing to
a close. We're getting ready for Red Sox Dodgers, and
of course the NBA Finals Game two at eight pm
Eastern Indiana Pacers with a one game lead in that series,
but catching up and everything that's been going on. Really
the only games going on right now Mariners and Angels.
George Kirby, the Seattle Mariners starter, through fourteen strikeouts things,
(01:13:28):
so he's got he's on heat. One more out for Actually,
I'm sorry that game. Just when final Mariners did defeat
the Angels three to two. Athletics just just get picked
up the win over the Baltimore Orioles five one. RBC
Canadian Open going on right now, and a playoff is happening.
I think we're in the third playoff hole between Sam
Burns and Ryan Foxtam, And a funny thing happened. Officials
(01:13:51):
came out and actually changed the whole location for this
playoff hole. Why probably, I don't know. They've probably probably
just make harder on these guys. They're doing the eighteenth
again and one of the I think it was a Fox,
one of his pots was like a foot short.
Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
So this is kind of a choke off.
Speaker 7 (01:14:11):
UFL playoffs is going on right Michigan Panthers punched their
ticket from the USFL Conference side forty four to twenty
nine over the Birmingham Stallions. They wait the winner of
DC Defenders and the Saint Louis BattleHawks, which is going
on right now on Fox. Yeah, it was like some beat. Hey,
(01:14:32):
I'll take football wherever I cana this day. College Baseball
Super Regionals right now number three Arkansas rolling over A
Number fourteen Tennessee eleven to two, bottom of the ninth,
bottom of the ninth for number fifteen UCLA seven zero
over UTSA. The start for LSU West Virginia that would
be number six LSU has been pushed back due to
(01:14:53):
inclement weather and earlier today, Carlos Alcarez beat Yennick Skinner
after five plus hours of tennis to win the French Open.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
Carrie and Monsey back to you guys. Thank you, Chris.
You're listening to Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
On the other side, how does Carrie feel about pinstripes
when they're not on the Yankees.
Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
We're gonna find out. Don't go anywhere. It's Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
Son be automatic supersonic, Kip not if.
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
Okay, that's enough. What's up? Everybody? Happy Sunday? Thanks for
hanging out with Carrie Rhoades and I Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Let me see you two step You know this song takes.
Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
Me back to high school because it was on Step Up. Yes,
Step Up to one former Tatum. They're not together anymore.
What's his name? Something Tatum? I can't channing trus Yes,
that movie.
Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
I know they went on to make like other versions
of it, but that first one Step Up was so fun,
so good.
Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
They just don't make movies like that anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:16:10):
No, they don't. I don't remember that movie that much.
Speaker 5 (01:16:13):
Oh s.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
Yeah, they fell in love and it was like, you know,
he was a he was a nobody, and then he
goes and helps her in her final recital as a
dancer with her, but he was not in the school
of like like a Juilliard.
Speaker 1 (01:16:29):
She was like an in like a Juilliard.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
And then he helps her, but he was like the janitor,
like cleaning or something like. He was a nobody. And
it's that story, right, It's always that story. But I thoroughly,
thoroughly enjoyed it. All right, let's move on here.
Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
That's when you are gone.
Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
That's right. You've never heard this segment, Carrie on or off? Carrie.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
I'm just gonna give you some things, and you're gonna
tell me whether you are for it or against it?
Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
All right? Carry are you? Honor? Honor?
Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
Off the Orlando Magic bringing back their pinstripes.
Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
I am on that way.
Speaker 6 (01:17:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:17:11):
Oh yeah, they look good. Oh they look good.
Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
They might that might be the my best new Jersey
favorite jersey. I may actually get one.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
Just so good. Oh yeah, I'm not a jersey wearer.
Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
I believe that men shouldn't wear people other men's jersey
outside of sporting events.
Speaker 1 (01:17:30):
But you know, we'll talk about that for another. We've
talked about that off air. Yes, all right, carry on
or off.
Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
AMC theaters are gonna show commercials during movie previews now,
so when you go to a movie, you have your previews. Now,
AMC is gonna throw commercials in that.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
Oh man, I'm off. I am off that one, terrible idea.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
I'm tired of Nicole Kittman and the ads anyway, So
you want to throw commercials on top, But I just
want to sit there and actually get down, have my popcorn,
have my little uh my little dippin' dots beside me. Yeah,
a good one, and just watch the movie.
Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
Yes, I don't want commercials. Yeah no.
Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
All you're telling me is to show up thirty minutes
after the scheduled time of the movie.
Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
That's all you're telling me.
Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
Oh my god, all right, Carrie on or off teammates
giving their fellow teammate a gift just for funsies.
Speaker 3 (01:18:24):
For funds yeah, just to just you know what, I
don't know about fundsies. I'm on that, I'm on, I'm on.
Speaker 1 (01:18:32):
I'm fairly on.
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
Okay, Yes, you gotta appreciate the guys around you, your
older women around you, and you know, if there's some
synergy there and they've helped you get to where you
need to be. I can see a gift being given.
Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
John Carlos Stanton gifted Aaron Judge a custom bleing.
Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
Gavel that he's weighing around his neck. That's dope. It's
so dope. It is so dope.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
There's a couple of like things on it, like Nora,
the name of his daughter. Uh, there is a two
time for his MVP awards.
Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
His dog's names are on them.
Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
And if you pay attention, because he's a subtle guy,
you wouldn't know. But it's a little gavel all blinged out,
cool given from Gihn Carlo's stand.
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
That's really cool. You want me to get you a
gavel that's blinged out.
Speaker 3 (01:19:13):
I don't want the galveol. I want like, give me
a number.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
Twenty twenty five. I was just gonna say, because we
got the twenty five, that's right. But maybe I'm gonna
have to do that, just like John Carlo did it
for Aaron Judge. Don't go anywhere. We've got more.
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
I'm Onzie, He's carry It's FOK Sports Radio. What's up everybody?
Thanks for hanging out with us on this Sunday, Game
two of the NBA Finals, less than an hour away
from tip off, and we are just getting ready.
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
Carrie, you never said what I told you pacers and six?
What were you?
Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
What I mean in I mean, what were you thinking
now that Game one is in the books, though, Like,
what were you thinking going into Game one?
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
Going into Game one? I told you to be a
super competitive series. I said six, I did say.
Speaker 1 (01:19:59):
Pacers or for But I said, but you thought okay?
Speaker 2 (01:20:01):
See yeah, no I get that is that was the
logical answer, trust me that it made no sense.
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
But for me, I was like, I just I have.
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
Underestimated the Pacers so long that I had to just
give him a chance.
Speaker 1 (01:20:14):
Like you've been proving me wrong, You're about to prove
everybody else wrong. Yeah, is my thought. There.
Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
You can follow Carrie Roads at Carrie twenty five Roads
on ex Twitter. You can follow me on ex Twitter
or across social media at Moncy Bolanos and as we
get into this final hour, carry Sekwan Barkley.
Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
Do you see his photo shoot for Madden cover? For
the Madden cover I did.
Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
And people were like, look at his hangtime, It's like, no,
you guys, he's got some strength. It's a harness or
something not still very impressive, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
But he is officially.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
Gonna be on the cover of Madden with that awesome
jump that he did do during the regular season, so
had to replicate it. And instantly when I saw this,
it's it's hard to not go into that. Oh the
Madden curse DoD Is that real or is that just
(01:21:10):
something that people want to pretend and talk about. How
do you feel about curses? I've told you I'm not superstitious.
I'm just a little stitious.
Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
Is any curse reel in your opinion? What do you think?
Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
I do think?
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Yeah, yeah, right, So this one is one that's been
proven to like really take place a lot, and me
being a former employee of that league and seeing plenty
of cover athletes go on the cover in the next
season not play any games, it's been a real thing.
Speaker 4 (01:21:46):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
I don't know how that's stacked up recently, and I
haven't seen any of that, haven't really been involved, and
I don't really play Madden either, so I'm not in
the loop. Yeah, but I would say the Madden curse
is one of those curses that has stood at the
test of time and has been proven to be true.
It has been so I hope this time it does
not occur. Can we break it some kind of way?
Speaker 2 (01:22:07):
I think there are ways to break it. But you know,
I'm very I'm not the I.
Speaker 1 (01:22:12):
Wish I I'm not the witch doctor I used to be.
That's exactly right. I mean, let's let's go back here,
just a.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
Couple of the final right, Christian McCaffrey. Yep, Yeah, that
was that was last That was last year curse. He
got hurt and like the Niners, just did not imploded,
like right before their eyes.
Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
Okay, that was the most recent one before that.
Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
Josh Allen, well not really, not really, not as much
because now you look at it, but.
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
He did marry a vampire, so that's part.
Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
So maybe that's what helped. That's what helped well in
the movie. Yes, in twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:22:50):
Twenty three was John Madden after a tribute to him,
but like obviously some one doesn't count. What about twenty
twenty two was Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes probably not
cursed but not cursed, no, because the next year but
Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
But things happened that.
Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
Tom Tom Hardy, that's true. Tom Brady's home definitely was yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:23:16):
In twenty twenty one, Lamar Jackson probably got hurt. He
heard as well in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
Yes, remember he was out, well he was out.
Speaker 1 (01:23:25):
Yes, okay, all right, so a bit of a curse there.
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
Patrick Mahomes again in twenty twenty, but then he won
his first Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:23:32):
So not not that one. In twenty nineteen, Antonio Brown
for the Steelers, like all the way, no questions asked,
like voodoo dolls and everything. Yes, yes, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
In twenty seventeen, it was tight end Rob Gronkowski for
the Patriots. But then you know he had a hamstring
injury and like I.
Speaker 1 (01:23:57):
Think he didn't finish the season. I think he did.
He heard his seat. Yes, so curse, curse, guys.
Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
I'm just I'm not even going that far back. Let
me go further back just to see okay. Two thousand
and nine it was Jets quarterback Brett Farv I.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
Was on that team. Curse curse, yeah, because he got
he got hurt. So we were like two thousand and eight,
we had just beat the Tennessee Titans. They had the
best record in the league. We beat them. We were
nine and three at that point. He injured his his shoulder, yep,
his old bowl shoulder, and we lost the last four games,
missed the playoffs, and he left.
Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
So curse, yes, yes, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNab in two
thousand and six, two thousand and six, and he hit
rock bottom.
Speaker 1 (01:24:43):
In two thousand and five that's when he hit rock bottom.
And in two thousand and four is when he hit
his peak.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
That's when he had like thirty plus touchdowns leading the
Eagles to that Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:24:52):
And then in twenty two thousand and five it just
went so cursed. Curse. Okay, let's see.
Speaker 2 (01:24:58):
Let's see two thousand and one, it was Titans running
back Eddie George.
Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
He met Ray Lewis that next year in the playoffs.
It was bad. He got baptized.
Speaker 1 (01:25:09):
All right, this is a real thing, you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
There are other like curses. There's other things that like
in life, you know, I don't. I don't know about you.
And guys, if you, if any of you, Chris, Shay
or Mary have stories about curses.
Speaker 1 (01:25:23):
Or superstition or how you feel, feel free to jump in.
Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
But Carrie, did you ever do anything while playing where
it was like I'm gonna wear the same undies because
we kept winning, or I'm not gonna wash my socks,
please tell me wash yourself, wash myself.
Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
Okay, good, But did you do anything like that?
Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
Yes, So before any game, starting back all the way
back in high school, well it changed to the PROB
but best the mindset, I would literally talk to myself
like in the mirror and like have a full on
conversation about what I'm I about to step into before
the game. So I had to actually have that conversation
with yourself and look at my like actually see me
(01:26:01):
as I do it. Like that was part of my
routine all the way throughout my professional career as well.
Speaker 1 (01:26:06):
Every game, every.
Speaker 3 (01:26:07):
Game, and I in the pros, I end up wearing
the same undershirt T shirt for the entirety of my career.
Speaker 1 (01:26:15):
This shirt was.
Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
Hanging on by because I would say I didn't wash
it all the time, but I would give it, yeah,
but I would give it a wash to make sure
it was okay, so it stood the test of time.
And also before the game, the night before the game,
in the pros, I would eat the same meal. Yeah,
so very supermicious. I can't, I can't. I will divulge it.
(01:26:39):
It's it's weird. I would eat and this is I
can't eat this now because I'm an old man. But
I would eat hot wings.
Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (01:26:47):
That's like a little seize. That's a smaller thing of
hot wings, like six wings. Yeah, like with some fries.
And I would have like a little two scoops of
ice cream with little hot foods syrup. So it's like
a little, not a lot. But I would have that
same thing before every game.
Speaker 1 (01:27:02):
I love that before the.
Speaker 3 (01:27:03):
Night before, the night before, okay before I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:27:06):
No, I'm all about wings. Even I don't eat anymore,
you know, I had to do something else. I love that.
I'm a big I do think curses are real.
Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
You know the curse of the band, right, like if
you think about the Red Sox and Babe Ruth, Like no, no, no,
that was a real curse.
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
Absolutely.
Speaker 7 (01:27:21):
I have to tell you about my favorite curse in
sports history I had. It's called the Curse of Colonel Sanders.
So in Japanese, yes, as Colonel Sanders. So there is
a team in Japan called the Hunchon Tigers who are
in Osaka. They're like the rivals to Tokyo's Young your
A Giants. H They're basically they were basically the Red
Sox of Japan. They hadn't won in forever, but they
(01:27:43):
had a ritual in the eighties where like they if
you looked like the player and the and the team
won a game, you would call out that player's name
throw the person who looked like it in the Osaka Canal.
So what happened is they have finally won the Japan
Series in like eighty four, I want to say, and
they had to American player on there by the name
of Randy Bass. Randy Bass, if you don't remember, had
(01:28:04):
a giant handlebar mustache. Obviously, no Japanese person's going to
look like that. So they took the next best thing,
which is in Japan and in China. In front of
KFC's there used to be a statue of Colonel Sanders.
So they took the statue of Standers and threw it
in the river, completely lost it, and then they started
to lose constantly, to the point where people thought that
(01:28:27):
the spirit of Colonel Sanders had cursed the Tigers for
disrespecting his likeness.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
I mean that's yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:28:34):
They even did like a whole televised search for the
statue at the bottom of the harbor, at the harbor,
at everything.
Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
It was fantastic.
Speaker 2 (01:28:41):
I for a second thought that I was cursing in
the Clippers because every playoff game I went to they lost,
and I was like, I need to stop going.
Speaker 1 (01:28:48):
I think I'm the curse in the playoffs, not in
the regular I can't watch Lions games half the time,
like oh my gosh, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
But then there's like every day curses, like do you
not walk under a ladder?
Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
If you one, I will not splitting a pole? Split
a pole when you're like with somebody. I used to
never believe in that.
Speaker 12 (01:29:05):
And I remember one Christmas or like Christmas Eve, my
brother and his best friend take us to the mall
and he brought it up for the first time and
we were like, I don't believe in that, and my
sister split the pole and I kid, you not within
five minutes we got into a car accident.
Speaker 1 (01:29:18):
No, I never split the pole ever.
Speaker 2 (01:29:21):
Since we are squeezing through this side of the pole,
I don't care.
Speaker 1 (01:29:25):
Yeah, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:29:27):
I I yeah, I definitely I will maybe split a pole.
I won't walk under a ladder, even if it's my
only option. I'll wait until you're done, sir, like I
will stand right here. Don't you worry about that. I'm
I also feel like they say, if bird poop falls
on you, that's good luck. Yes, right, And so I've
had poop fall on me from birds once or twice,
(01:29:51):
and I'm just I look at it, and I'm like,
all right, give me some good luck.
Speaker 1 (01:29:54):
Give me some good luck.
Speaker 3 (01:29:55):
This got a little wealth coming your way?
Speaker 12 (01:29:57):
Yes, Because if your palm is itching, isn't you're right
palm or something?
Speaker 1 (01:30:00):
I think that means much more something. Yeah, money, Come on,
am I let my palm itch? I would love that.
I would love that.
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
If your mirror breaks, you're gonna have bad luck for
what like seven years or something.
Speaker 1 (01:30:11):
That's another one. I break your mom back, step me
out a crack.
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
All these things and it's it's impossible to feel like
they're not true, right.
Speaker 3 (01:30:21):
They had to stem from somewhere. Obviously a lot of
these things are like your your parents wanting you to
obey or something that you think that way, like, So,
I mean I think that's part of it, right, But yeah,
I mean what would this world be without some type
of superstitions or curses or.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
Something to keep you aligned?
Speaker 3 (01:30:40):
Right, I feel that's a lot of a lot of
the time what this stuff kind of stems from.
Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
Yes, it stems from people trying to get you to
do things yes, or not do things yes, right, like
it it's more of that, and then you just it's
it's funner to think that it's real, but just.
Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
The human mind in general, right, the mental, the psyche.
If somebody says and not do something, or something's going
to happen, you have two sets of people, right, the
person that's going to go out and try that, yep,
you know, the person that's going to be obedient, right,
And so it kind of falls in line with that.
Speaker 1 (01:31:10):
Do you think the clippers are cursed?
Speaker 3 (01:31:11):
They are cursed for sure. Yeah, that's no question. And
you're part of it. I could, You're definitely.
Speaker 1 (01:31:16):
Part of the reason they Yeah, So what do I
have to do? Do I have to go put like
Sage all over into a dome or what you could
do Sage.
Speaker 3 (01:31:23):
But I would just say, I mean sticking to kind
of the chicken, the kernel chicken thing that Chris was
talking about. Maybe you could throw you can bring a
live chicken.
Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
I'm not bringing we're doing No, you know what I'm
talking about. Yeah, it's from the movie Major League.
Speaker 7 (01:31:36):
Remember, I gotta get some you gotta get some Saint
candles going on in here or something.
Speaker 1 (01:31:41):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:31:42):
I won't say who this was, but somebody that I
work without the Dodgers was like, you know, I went
to Astros in Houston to a game, and that he
took some dirt and then brought the dirt and spread
it at Dodger Stadium because he thought there was like
a curse from the twenty seventeen Wow and that he
was like, I just wanted to break the curse. So
(01:32:03):
I brought her brought it here. So it's like, no,
we're good. And I was like, don't tell people that.
Speaker 3 (01:32:08):
I was about to say, how many laws did he break?
Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
Don't And That's what I was saying, But what do
you told me? I was like, don't share this with people.
He's like no, and I was like, no, I'm not kidding.
Speaker 1 (01:32:16):
If people find out you just this is gonna go bad.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
But thank you for trying to break the curse that
you think the Dodgers had after the twenty seventeen world
It must have worked. It must have worked. It must
have worked. And he was like right after twenty seventeen
that he did it. So I was like, Okay, at least.
Speaker 1 (01:32:32):
You're trying to do something.
Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
Obviously, I'm hoping for Sekwon Barkley that this is not
a real thing for him, Yeah, and that he.
Speaker 1 (01:32:40):
Goes on to have another amazing year. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:32:43):
We want, yes, we want to wish.
Speaker 1 (01:32:44):
Him well well and then something.
Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
Yeah, but but but.
Speaker 1 (01:32:52):
Just be careful.
Speaker 2 (01:32:53):
Just yeah, be care obviously because the reality is a
lot of mileage on you.
Speaker 1 (01:32:58):
Yes, a lot of them. And hey, you know, you
win the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
So it's like, I even if if you don't have
the same success, I think you did it. It's almost like,
please only put super Bowl winners on the cover.
Speaker 1 (01:33:12):
It's doing it like that, so that way the curse
can't be that bad. Yeah, we already won. You already won,
so you can't. It can't. It can't be that bad.
I love that. I'm trying to think of an If
you think of another curse, you can tweet at us again,
Carry twenty five Roads. I'm Moncey Bolanos.
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
But again, we're hoping that this curse is not a
real thing when it comes to Saquon Barkley. We are
forty five ish minutes away from Game two of the
NBA Finals and Carry are gonna dive into that.
Speaker 1 (01:33:44):
So don't go anywhere. This is Fox Sports Sunday. Okay, Yeah,
who is this? Son Kingston? Is it? Yeah? Somebody going
on on one. Oh, that's this one. It doesn't sound
for milliear right away. Yeah, it's been a while. It's
been a while. It's been a while.
Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
Fox Sports Sunday coming to you live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios on Monty Bilanos, alongside former All Pro
safety Carrie Rose, who's happy that his Yankees are on
the score board against the Red Sox.
Speaker 1 (01:34:20):
Yes, Dobbins is the guy that you pointed out. I
didn't know it was him.
Speaker 2 (01:34:24):
I saw the story of a quick line of a
player saying like, yeah, I would never play for the Yankees,
even if they wanted me to.
Speaker 1 (01:34:31):
I would retire if they were the last team that
would take me.
Speaker 3 (01:34:34):
That's what he said.
Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
That is what the picture said for the Boston Red
Sox Dobbins. And so we're just expecting the Yankees to
have his way, yep, have their way with him because
of those comments.
Speaker 1 (01:34:47):
Things you don't say things, you just just don't say that,
or say it after the game. I don't know, say
it after that.
Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
Bad timing, bad timing, bad timing, bad timing for OKC
to lose Game one of the NBA Finals.
Speaker 1 (01:35:01):
But I will tell you, I think it's better. We're
getting ready for Game two.
Speaker 2 (01:35:06):
I think it was better that the Thunder loss Game one.
Then if they were have to have lost Game two
and split the series that way. I'll tell you why
I feel that. At this point, Carrie, you should know this.
You've talked about it in the NBA. Everybody's good. Everyone
on that roster is good. Yes, So the edge comes
(01:35:29):
mentally at this point, right like who has the edge,
and it usually is now a mental competition of who
can keep it together with okase all the experts. As
we talked about an hour one and if you didn't
catch our one, don't worry. Shortly after the show, our
podcast is going to be going up, So if you
missed any of today's show, be sure to check out
the podcast. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you do that,
(01:35:52):
and be sure to follow a rate review.
Speaker 1 (01:35:53):
Rate of five stars. You know.
Speaker 2 (01:35:54):
Again, just search Fox Sports Radio where we get your podcast,
and you'll see Toda's show posted right after we get
off air. In one, we talked about just a little
bit okay see and the Pacers in game one, but
all the experts using air quotes, you know, picked Okac,
and so I feel like if Okac would have won
Game one, they would have walked away with their heads
(01:36:16):
a little bit bigger in the sense of like, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:36:18):
Everybody expected this, They are right, we are the better team. Right. Instead,
you got punched in the mouth in game one.
Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
Yes, so that made you get on high alert. You
can't walk if you would have come walked away from
this series split one one, but you won game one.
Speaker 1 (01:36:35):
I don't know if they're worried now you're worried. You
should be worried. Ye, And this was only gonna happen
by losing game one the way that they did.
Speaker 3 (01:36:45):
Yeah, the crazy part about this, MANSI is yes, it
can go a couple of ways.
Speaker 1 (01:36:50):
But now.
Speaker 3 (01:36:53):
The pressures on them to have to win game two, absolutely,
and so how do they respond to that as well?
Right now, obviously they've kind of it's been a cake
walk for them all year. Regular season, easy marginal victory,
easy playoffs. Has been that way for the most part,
except for the Denver series where they got a little
bit of a challenge, right m h. But now they're
(01:37:16):
down one in the finals. They actually lost to a
team and the Pacers that didn't play their best basketball either.
So now, like the refocus, the recalibration comes into into play,
but also it can also become a pressing situation. So
I'm I'm eager and excited to see this game and
(01:37:36):
see which team responds and how do OKAC respond to
being down Oh one, I'm sure they will, but the
Pacers aren't just going to be out here and be
happy that they won the first one. The no, And
that's the part that I'm eager. I'm eager to see also, and.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
That's it's like, Okay, see again, you guys need to
see this as a positive because I think you would
have thought you were okay, if not okay, but walked
away feel better out of a split series if you
only lost game two versus losing the first one, and
when you led the game for forty.
Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
Seven point fifty nine seconds, right, like, it was ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
As to when they took the lead, How did you
feel about them changing their starting line up?
Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
Yeah, I didn't like that at all.
Speaker 1 (01:38:22):
Why would you do that?
Speaker 3 (01:38:24):
I don't know, and I think you know, I don't know.
I don't know why you do that. You had the
best team all year, it was one king and you've
won the way you've won, and you're going to adapt
to somebody else in game one before you even see.
Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
What happened, Before you even see what happened, it was.
Speaker 3 (01:38:39):
It was a bit of a panic move for me.
Speaker 2 (01:38:41):
And last minute you put in Cason Wallace took out
Isaiah Hartenstein, which are your You went smaller.
Speaker 1 (01:38:48):
You decided to go smaller. Yes, And I was like,
but why now? Why did? It made no sense to me?
Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
And I feel like you think And a lot of
the people were very critical.
Speaker 1 (01:38:57):
I said, Jalen Williams needed.
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
To be the X factor for OKC, and I think
you you had a two and two. You had Chut
Hongen and Jalen Williams and they were not great thereffective.
Speaker 1 (01:39:09):
They weren't effective.
Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
But is it that they weren't effective or is it
that shake Gildess Alexander came out taking all the shots.
Speaker 3 (01:39:17):
At the point, and I was going to bring that up.
I'm glad you said it. He was too aggressive. He
was and I know people were saying he should come
out and be aggressive. Yes, I understand he wanted to
get his imprint on that series right away. But they've
gotten there as a team as good as he is,
and he's the MVP and all that. For the most part,
everybody eats with that team. They didn't do that. In
(01:39:39):
Game one, him and Jalen Williams shot a lot. I mean,
I think Jalen Williams shot the ball close to twenty
times as well.
Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
In SA of nineteen, Jaylen Williams and.
Speaker 3 (01:39:47):
Shay had thirty thirty something in attempts.
Speaker 1 (01:39:50):
That's a lot. Thirty he was for so you got like.
Speaker 3 (01:39:53):
Those that's fifty shots between two people.
Speaker 1 (01:39:55):
That's a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:39:56):
And Jalen Williams shots I feel like came in the
later half of the game because agains she came out
aggressive and he was scoring. But again it never felt
like the Pacers were out of the game because they
could not pull away further than fifteen points, which we
know in today's NBA means absolutely nothing, especially with the
team that likes to shoot three is the way the
Indiana Pacers do, So they never felt out of it,
(01:40:17):
at least in my opinion. But I do I wonder
if that was a factor as to why Chet and
Jalen did not have their best games.
Speaker 1 (01:40:25):
Yes, because you were never in a groove.
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Yes, you weren't playing the game you've been playing.
Speaker 1 (01:40:31):
No, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:40:32):
Go ahead, because that's part of it. That's the thing.
In big moments and big games, people do things that
are out of the ordinary sometimes because you're caught up
in the moment. I want to do this, I need
to do this where it's not about I, it's about us.
It's about we, because that's what's gotten you to this
point now, right the I you got to take that
(01:40:55):
out and you have to be the team that you are.
But again, it's it was all set up from the beginning.
Speaker 1 (01:41:01):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:41:01):
The coach did something that's out of the ordinary, so
the players follow suit. And that's the part about basketball
and sports in general, where if you're a leader, your
head coach is worried or not confident or insecure in
what you guys have as a group going into a game.
It trickles down and that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:41:23):
And that's a really good point where it's like, man
Mark Dagnat, your nerves showed very early in that by
changing the lineup without it was game one, as you,
as most people say, game one is a feel out
game for both teams.
Speaker 1 (01:41:37):
How are you gonna come at me? How are we
gonna come at you? And you changed it without really
knowing what they were going to do. And now I
assume they're going to go back to Isaiah Hardenstein. Would
that would That's what I would do. That's what I
would do. I assume that's what's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:41:55):
But you look at the Pacers and if you remember
what I said last week, I was like, Shay Gilgess,
Alexander does need to go off in order for them
to win. Tyres Haliburn doesn't need to go off. And
he didn't. I mean, he hit the freaking game winner again,
like unreal, unreal, But it was what you said, Okay, see,
went away from what they've done all season. Which was
(01:42:16):
team basketball. And then the Pacers kept playing team basketball
the entire time. The run that they had there in
the fourth quarter, which we talked about earlier today, was
not even Tyre's Halliburton, It was not even Pascal Siakam
offensively on defense. Obviously they are all very important, but
it was all different players on the Pacers scoring and
(01:42:39):
keeping them in the game in the final nine minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:42:42):
Yeah, and they're not going to change from that. No,
and again and again, it starts with the head coach
of the Pacers, and you know, this game is going
to be that, it's going to be intact, and their
best player Halliburton, right Like again, he's not somebody that
has to shoot the ball thirty times for them to win,
and so he can actually, you know, really partake in
the team chemistry and the team building of what they've
(01:43:05):
gotten to to this point so far. And then when
I needed, oh I'm going to show up and I'm
going to show out because this is what I do
as well, so what I do.
Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
Yeah, six players in double digits for the Pacers, which
probably didn't look like that at started the game, you know,
and then you look at it at the end and
You're like six of you in double figures, including Obi
Topping off the bench, who again struggled so much with.
Speaker 1 (01:43:25):
The ball in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:43:26):
I just was like, man, this guy can't protect the ball.
But they win it, So I'm with you. The pressure
obviously is on the thunder Yes, in every way, shape
and form, especially knowing as we talked to Scott Agnes
in our one who covers the Pacers, that.
Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
The Pacers have won games one and two this entire playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
And I want to see the Pacers be greedy here.
Speaker 1 (01:43:48):
Yes, absolutely, step on their throat.
Speaker 3 (01:43:50):
Go win this one. Yes, And this is what I
think they will do. I mean, obviously, I don't think
they're going to win this game. I think, okay, see
ties it up. But let me tell you this, Monty,
this Pacer team is not satisfied. They're going to come
out and compete, and I think that I think come
into this game they are double digit underdogs. It won't
be that. It will be closer than that, I promise.
Speaker 1 (01:44:09):
How are they double digit underdogs? Are you serious? They are?
Speaker 6 (01:44:12):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:44:12):
They are?
Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
Well, who are these experts, Carrie? They should talk to
us about this. What do you mean it's double I'm
in double checking this right now.
Speaker 3 (01:44:19):
No, I mean it could fall.
Speaker 1 (01:44:20):
No, it's yeah, eleven and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:44:22):
Yeah, double digits.
Speaker 1 (01:44:23):
Double digits, which makes no sense, especially after what you
just saw in game one.
Speaker 3 (01:44:26):
They're just going off trends. I mean, okay See lost
that first game against Denver. They did, and they came
out and blew a mountain game too, So I mean,
I'm sure they're going off trends, but.
Speaker 1 (01:44:34):
Not the same. It's not the same. I don't even
know what I either.
Speaker 2 (01:44:41):
Both teams need to come out ready to step on
each other's throats.
Speaker 1 (01:44:45):
Yes, both of them need to come out like that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:48):
I want to see that. I want to feel that.
Speaker 2 (01:44:49):
Exactly like, I don't anticipate a blowout on either side.
Speaker 1 (01:44:53):
I think it's going to be another close game. And
if okay c does not, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
I was gonna say tidy up, but it's not tidying up.
Shake Giljos Alexander had a chance to score and ice
the game.
Speaker 3 (01:45:10):
Well, I mean they would have been three.
Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
It would have been a three. But you're right, not
ice game. But but feel a little way more confidently,
way more confidently, because you know what okay See would
have done fouled and not let you take a three.
So I yeah, we'll.
Speaker 1 (01:45:25):
See what happens. We'll see, We'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:45:27):
But I think the logical answer is a one to
one split series that heads back to in Deanna. All right,
let's chick again with our anchor Chris Perfett, who's been
here all day.
Speaker 1 (01:45:40):
Oh man, all day.
Speaker 7 (01:45:43):
I've seen everything from the start of the French open too.
Oh excuse me, I hit the wrong button there to
waiting for NBA, for the NBA countdown for ESPN. But
apparently there might be some issues here, Andrew Marshan reporting
that they may have to produce Game two of the
NBA Finals remotely. There are severe storm watches all around
(01:46:03):
Oklahoma City. Some smaller towns outside of Oklahoma City are
getting tornado warnings, I mean tornado warnings as well. So
Marshan says, there's a tornado warning outside of Oklahoma in
okac but I've gone through the National Weather Service and
I haven't found that just yet, so we'orking to confirm that.
But let's get you caught up on everything that's been
(01:46:24):
going on right now. First off, the only live baseball
game New York Yankees with a two early, two to
zero lead over the Boston Red Sox bottom of the
second inning, also going on, well, let's talk about the
earlier baseball first. Actually, excuse me, I'm kind of Paul
Skeen's pitched into the eighth inning. You know what this is, boss,
Sometimes you just know you have so much going on,
(01:46:46):
Sometimes you want to switch gears too quickly. Paul Sken's
pitched into the eighth inning and Andrew McCutchen hit to
go ahead. Singles Pirates top the Phillies to one, Tigers
blank the Cubs four zero, Dodgers seventy three over the
Cardinals as Clayton Kershaw picks up even more strikeouts George
Kirby through seventeen of excuse me, fourteen strikeouts through seven
as the Mariners defeat the Angels three to two. College
(01:47:09):
Baseball Super Regionals, The LSU game is delayed, but we
have number fifteen UCLA defeating UTSA three zero. Carries Louisville
not too very curious defeated Miami three to two. Number
three Arkansas eleven runs on Number fourteen Tennessee eleven to four.
As they move on and prepare for Omaha, where there
(01:47:29):
are wonderful jello shots I have been told and UFL
playoffs the Michigan Panthers forty four over the Birmingham Sounds
twenty nine and await the winner of DC Defender Saint
Louis Battlehawk. That game about to go to the half
currently DC fourteen to Saint Louis six.
Speaker 1 (01:47:46):
Carrie and Monsei. Back to you guys. Thank you so much. Chris,
don't go too far.
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
We will definitely do it on the other side, though,
as I'm going to test the Creuse knowledge here.
Speaker 1 (01:47:59):
Not just on sports, but also on the Grammys.
Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
Oh easy as one, two three four, Coming right up,
don't go anywhere, Mary, what's up?
Speaker 1 (01:48:08):
Everybody happy Sunday? Blurred lines here?
Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
Hey hey hey, that's right, that's that's not kawhi?
Speaker 1 (01:48:17):

five Roads. On Monty Bolanos, you can follow me across
social media at Monty Bolanos. Thanks for hanging out with us.
But it's time for a little game easy as one,
two three four. It's supposed to be easy. I don't
know how easy it is, but I'm gonna test the
(01:48:43):
crew's knowledge here.
Speaker 1 (01:48:45):
See, Carrie has lifelines. They include Mary.
Speaker 2 (01:48:49):
Our producer, Shay, Christopher Venn who was over at the
anchor desk, and I've got a little bit of everything
on today's game.
Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
But it is a little hard I think for today.
Oh man, I know, I'm gonna say five and a
three weeks. Five and a half is the number. See
if you can get over.
Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
Five and a half, bet bet all right, let's start here.
Speaker 1 (01:49:13):
Name one of two artists that have the.
Speaker 2 (01:49:16):
Most Grammy nominations of all time nominations not wins. One
of two Grammy artists to have the most nominations up
and shows.
Speaker 1 (01:49:30):
Folence, Mary, what you got? Marye? Okay, okay, okay, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:49:41):

of these, so they may seem hard at the surface.
Speaker 3 (01:49:47):
Michael Jackson.
Speaker 1 (01:49:50):
Could be one. Maybe let me think one.
Speaker 12 (01:49:53):
You just said between Michael Jackson and Beyonce. I know
that for sure. I'm pretty sure it's Beyonce one, right,
you only need one, only need one, I mean the
answer is like a pretty safe bet.
Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
Man over Mike.
Speaker 3 (01:50:05):
Okay, I'm gonna go with you because I'm gonna go
with Mary on this one.
Speaker 1 (01:50:09):
I'll go with Mary, all right, show me Beyonce. That
is right. Beyonce is the number one, yeah, Mary, all.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
Time nominations when it comes to the Grammys, ninety nine

Speaker 1 (01:50:36):
I think was nominated one time and one. I think
you're right about it. I think you're right.
Speaker 2 (01:50:41):
So I get why you thought Michael Jackson, but think
about artists that are still making music. Because with Cowboy Carter,
she got more Grammy nominations, so it.
Speaker 1 (01:50:49):
Keeps on adding. So yeah, Beyonce right now, and jay Z.
I didn't know that.
Speaker 3 (01:50:53):
Great job, Mary the jay Z when I would not
think at all.
Speaker 13 (01:50:57):
Right, he's been doing it for so long, even relevant
for so long that but how many albums or I mean, but.
Speaker 1 (01:51:05):
I'm with you, it's like twenty plus years of a catalog.
Speaker 3 (01:51:08):

NFL that have gone to one super Bowl but they

Speaker 7 (01:51:49):
It's the Cardinals, and the other would be the Titles,
and the other would be the Tennessee Titans, who got
there on the on the Music City mirror.
Speaker 3 (01:51:56):
Yes, the one yard short touchdown of a touchdown one?
Speaker 1 (01:52:01):
Two of the three? Who would you like those two?
You want to go with the Cardinals?
Speaker 7 (01:52:05):
No, No, Panthers is a good answer to You should
definitely know that. But you said, I'm confident in all three.
Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
But sure you okay, go with Chris.
Speaker 1 (01:52:13):

Speaker 3 (01:52:42):
That's what that one was against the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
And just so you know, it's not the Panthers. The
Panthers have gone twice. Just so you know they've gone twice.
Speaker 3 (01:52:52):
