Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
What is up? Everybody? Happy Sunday? Thank you for tuning in.
I'm Anci Belanos Carry Roads former all Bro Safety coming
to you live from the Tire Raq, well from the
tire rack at some points studios, you know, yeah, and
from the La studios here at Fox Sports Radio. Yeah.
I woke up today, Carrie. You know the weekend I've had.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Did you wake up?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
I did take up? No, no, no, I'm saying I was.
I was chilling. I was chilling. I have not posted
a lot on social media. I don't do that until
after the fact because I try to live in the moment,
as we all should. So I was in Vegas. You
knew for seven hours, six hours I was. Covino and
(00:47):
Rich did their show on Friday from the Circa Hotel
in Las Vegas, and I was never gonna go because
I was supposed to go see Shakira in concert on
Friday nightra and I also had a wedding yesterday, so
it was never on my docket. It was never gonna
be part of my plans. And then Shakita rescheduled her
(01:07):
concert not long ago. And then when you rescheduled it
to august I said, hold on a second, my Friday's
opened up. Can't kinda look it me already getting excited. Yeah,
that's you being very realistic on the situation, me being
optimistic as I was, like, my Friday has opened up?
(01:29):
Can I can I make it to Vegas to support
Covino and Rich? Right, so your girl booked the flight.
I flew out, went to the pool party slash show
for Covino and Rich, had some fun with with Shay.
Shay is struggling right now, guys, because Shaye arrived back
today this morning, struggling. But you know what, he's here.
(01:52):
He's produced our shows. He's here. He's just not happy
he's here, but he's here. He's happy to be here,
barely barely.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
The body may be happy.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but he's here. You know, give it
up for him for being literally getting off the fly.
But I after the pool party, which thank you Shay
for making sure I got on a taxi because I
would have missed my flight on Friday, hopped back on
a flight Friday and came back and I was chilling,
and then yesterday woke up, went to the wedding and happy,
(02:24):
Happy wedding to Ryan Berschinger, who works here, and Audrey
his new bride, great wedding, and uh, I'm here, so
I'm I'm chilling. But I did have a busy day
and I thought I was gonna wake up and just
have like a normal busy Sunday. And then I wake
up to a bunch of notifications, a bunch of notifications.
(02:45):
But we'll wait one second, Okay, go for it.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
You were able to fly to Vegas, go to the
thing the show, got back on the flight that same night, Yes,
and flew back at wedding.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
That's a lot of stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
That is a lot of stuff.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Gives me exactly you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Like I was, I probably got off my couch twice,
and you did a lot. I know I did. I
did not stop. Let me tell you, I did not stop.
And no regrets. I'm chilling. Shaye Shaye was working, quote
unquote working for Kevino Riche always yeah, yeah, no, you
were working. You definitely weren't working. Uh, And he's he
(03:23):
made it back today. He made it back today. And
I wake up to a ton of notifications, not just
from Twitter, but friends already. Oh what do you think
of this?
Speaker 5 (03:33):
Right?
Speaker 6 (03:33):
Right?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
One eye opened. I was like, what what what Kevin Durant.
Kevin Durant on the move headed to the Houston Rockets
Phoenix Suns in return getting not Alpera and Shingoon, not
Steven Adams, not I'm in Thompson, but Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks,
(03:54):
the tenth overall pick in this year's draft. I think
it was tenth what whatever?
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Either what not first or.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Second eight, nine to ten, whatever, You're right, and then
some second rounders, some second round picks, five, second round
five five. It is a lot, but it's Kevin Durant.
I'm not super surprised. On In fact, you could say
that what the Sons originally gave up to get Kevin Durant, yeah,
was a lot more. They are not getting the exact same,
(04:23):
but they are getting some pieces back. The Sons are
in a situation where it's gonna take a minute to rebuild, right,
it wasn't gonna be just with this trade. It was
gonna help you. The Rockets, on the other hand, are
a few steps away from really being true contenders. Yeah, true, right,
(04:43):
How do you like this move for the Rockets or
the Rockets?
Speaker 4 (04:47):
For the Rockets, they are in contention. Now that doesn't
mean they're going to win it, but they are in contention.
They are as this roster is constructed, their top four
easily and a healthy Kevin Durant if he was in
this series this year with Houston against Golden State, they
win like they're there. They're there, So I'm excited about them.
(05:09):
I'm excited for Houston. I'm excited for Im Dooka, who
obviously has gone through the ringer and had some you know,
some some miss some missteps along the way. Go to
a young team, a situation in Houston where people thought
he was just kind of exiled. Build those guys up.
They're ready to ready to compete even without Kevin Durant.
Now you get one of the top scores in NBA
history on your team where he can fully, i mean,
(05:32):
like solely focus on scoring.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
He doesn't have to be a defender because he's not
that guy anymore.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
No, but he's a statue.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
But adding that piece crazy.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
When you talk about the Phoenix Suns, when you talk
about mismanaging something.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
When they brought the new owner, I think it's Isa.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yeah, he completely toured that team apart. And that's that's
the other thing about the NBA. You think you can
just add names to a mix and you're gonna win games.
That does not happen. You gotta have culture, you gotta
have equity. You get rid of the coach that took
them to the NBA Finals, and then you get rid
of Chris Paul, you get rid of DeAndre Ayt, and
(06:13):
you get rid of all that core to bring in
three guys that you're thinking score points and fill up
seats and you don't win.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
The Phoenix Suns are in a bad, bad place.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
They really are. And with what you said, you add
a lot to it because you're right. As a Clippers fan.
Steve Balmer did dive into names, right, He's like, but
I don't blame him, and listen, we're not as bad
as what the Sons did. No, at least we had
other We had a benk. We were more balanced. But
that idea of like buying names, it's hard to not
(06:43):
dive into that when you have the money and when
you have these players that want to do it. But yeah,
they had no depth. The argument was for the Sons,
who's your point guard, who's playing defense? Like there was
a lot of questions and you bring this up just
because you're a MAVs fan. So you want to point
out that Nico Harrison might not be the worst, that's
what you're trying to do it. Yeah, I know what
you're trying to do. No, Nico Harrison is still the worst.
(07:03):
But what happened with the Suns was malpractice, absolutely, and
so one move was not going to change anything for them.
But I will tell you Jalen Green needed a change
of scenery, and I've heard that he's actually not probably
going to be there. Interesting. I think they're trying to
move him again as well. Okay, so we gotta wait
and see. We got to wait and see. The point
(07:24):
is he needed a change of scenery. The expectation that
was set for him because of where he was drafted.
They they, everyone did, thought that he was going to
be a lot better at this point in his career.
It's a short sample size. He's what twenty two, twenty three.
He's a kid, He's got more to grow. But it
seems like it wasn't happening in Houston, right. I hope
(07:47):
it happens wherever he goes on that he has the
chance to actually dive in and grow and be this
this score that everybody expected.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Him to be well, and it's you know what it is, Manci,
it's a timeline. Of course the Rockets are ready to now. Yes,
if they weren't ready to win now, I don't think
this move is made because obviously we know we can score,
we know he's dynamic, he's done some good things. Yeah,
but we saw in the playoffs he's not ready noting
the Rockets.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
No, sorry, just there's so much to this, right, There's
so many There's so many layers to it, where like
you say something in triggers a different thought, I say
something and triggers a different thought for you. We talked
about the Rockets going weeks ago of like going into
the playoffs, it's like they score by committee. But then
you face a team like the Warriors where they literally
have the best score probably you know that we've seen
(08:33):
in the last ten years, and the Rockets just could
not get that person. Fred van Vliet is gonna give
you a thirty point game every so often, but you
needed a guy who was like, hey we're tied and
it's one minute left, go get me a basket. And
they didn't have that. All of a sudden, they have
that they got that, they got that. And last week
you told me, Remember, I was like, why are we
(08:54):
hoping all of this for Kevin Durant? You said, it's
Kevin Durant. He's a scorer. And I like this trade,
I really do. I also am going to give Kevin
Juransom credit. He could have gone to the East carry
an easier route to the finals for next year. We
know that that's open because there's gonna be a lot
of questions going into the off season. I know the
(09:15):
Pacers are there, but like, I don't think anyone's anticipating
the Pacers to be there next year because everyone has
underestimated them. But he could have gone to an East
team like the Miami Heat and taking a quote unquote
easier route to maybe getting to the finals. He stays
in the West, which is not going to be any.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Easier, and his division alone.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
And his division, it is the Spurs who are going
to be good and really good this year, trust me,
the Rockets, the Mavericks, the Grizzlies. Oh, it's division. And
like the Grizzlies, like there's question mark question, But you
also aren't like, well, I'm not dismissing them. It's just
there's question bok of course. So I'm giving kd credit
(09:57):
because you absolutely know he had something to do and
say with this trade, I mean not gonna lie. I
also think he said, hey, break the news when I'm
at Phonetics cut and right before Game seven, can you
do that? Because like Lebron does this, so why don't
I do this? Now, all of that was absolutely controlled,
(10:17):
and I'm not mad about it, but that it's today,
that it was released today, that the you know the news.
But I'm gonna give Katie credit there also giving credit
to the Rockets because what have we seen in the
last two weeks for the Rockets, not just signing Katie,
extending email Doka making him one of the highest paid coaches,
extending Steven Adams making sure, yes, they're like, we're not
(10:41):
letting this guy go. Utilize this guy. I love Steven
Adams too, Like I don't know what it is about
him because he's scary, but yet he is very kind,
very kind, and at the same time, nobody's gonna mess
with him because they're like, no, no, this guy legit
probably yeah, just some damage.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
You have.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
A person that doesn't overreact to things is the one
that I'm probably the most.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Yes, absolutely, and that is Stephen Adams and not to
mention that he is giant and all. All of that
give credit to what the Rockets are doing. If you're
a Rockets fan, you should be so proud of your
front office and what they are doing because they are
doing something to win now. They want to, you know,
give surround email Dooka and this young team alpern Chegoon
(11:25):
with what they need. Aman Thompson, who I find so
fun to watch.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
He's so good.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
He's so good. And we have one year and I'm.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Gonna tell you something. That team is so scary good.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Yeah that we haven't even talked about Jabari Smith yet,
and I think he's gonna benefit the most from Kevin
Durant being there. Okay, they are very similar in the
way they play. Jabari Smith is like six. He looks
like he's not that tall. He's six nine to sixteen.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Oh wow, No, he does not look that tall.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
And he can handle the ball, he can score. He's
gonna learn so much from Kevin Durant. That team is
scary good.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Team is scary good. I don't want to face them.
And like we saw how good they were but one
thing they were missing was a consistent scorer, and they
freaking got it. Carried that guy. They got that guy,
they got the coach, they have the culture, they have
the pieces around him, and they have the defense. It's like, yeah,
(12:16):
Katie is not going to be your best defensive player,
but he's not going to be a statue and come
down to the final couple of minutes. If you need
him to play defense, he's gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
I'm just thinking about the height on that team too.
The only person that's small is Fred banf Other than that,
if Jabari Smith is playing the two, I'm guessing he'll
probably slide down to the two. He's he's six nine
and sixteen. You got Emmon Thompson six eight sixty nine,
he'll be in that range. Kat seven foot almost and
Sengoon sixty eleven, seven foot Steven Adams like, they're yeah big.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
The West right now is like damn, damn. Now we
were already worried about the Rockets. Now we really have
to worry about the rockets. And back to the Suns.
This is going to take a minute for this recovered.
It's gonna take a minute for them to recover. But
you mentioned how like it's not just getting these names.
You need to establish a culture, right, Yes, Dylan Brooks,
(13:09):
you can hate the guy, you can love the guy
that is a guy to establish a culture for you.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
And they may miss him early on because who's going
to be that defensive guy, that guy that's going to
muck it up and do thesolution.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
So I mean, I'm sure they'll find something.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
They absolutely will because but yes, that is one thing
that the Sun's got that can help them start to
develop this culture. This. No, we actually should care about defense.
We should put the effort in because defense is all
about effort, and if at least one guy is holding
you accountable, then maybe the next guy will hold the
next guy accountable and it's like a ripple effect. Right.
But when you don't have a single person who cares
(13:44):
about defense like that or holds you accountable like that,
then it's easier to just rely on offense.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
And it's so weird too, like why do you go
into any season or any game thinking you're just going
to outscore people, like having any like some type of
defensive identity. It just it's weird to me, MANSI that
so many teams are bad defensively it.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Is, but you know, I think it's the three ball,
like just people think like, well, the three is worth
more than the two. We make more threes, doesn't matter.
And that's it's a bad mentality to have because now
I think we're seeing the league or the sport, the
skill start to even out where it's like, oh no, no,
we do like the three, but also we need to
(14:26):
get back to traditional a mid range shot posting up.
We're kind of leaning into that little by little.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
And you have to because I think in the playoffs
is when you have to change. When you have to
change because teams know what you want to do, so
you got to go to your counter as. You got
to have a counter if you're an NBA player, you
have to have a counter move. And so when the
playoffs start, I think we do see it more and
I think that's why we're saying and.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
That's why we're seeing it and the effort. Some teams
just have the effort all year round, and some turn
it on in the playoffs, but then some don't know how,
don't even know what their effort is, and then you
see it right before your eyes and it's like, oh
you you just were not prepared for this next level
of basketball, which is the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
And we're talking about teams being able to turn it
on and obviously understand that the game isn't just about
the three pointer. And I think we'll talk about a
team later that actually got that. Now we're facing or
in a big game seven. As we move on throughout the.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Show, Cooper Flag does he wait to take threes?
Speaker 3 (15:24):
I just he can.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
He can't, but that's not right. He's trying. He likes
the mid range. They take it to the back. Yeah,
and see again, the number one overall pick not coming
in a big dude, But that does not necessarily necessarily
rely on a three. It's shifting. It's a slow shift,
but we're shifting because yes, not all of us, or
not all of you are Steph Curry. Like I don't
(15:49):
to hear that. Yeah, you're right, most of you are
not Steph Curry, and that, I think is the change
that has to happen, even with little kids. I'm sure
little kids are taking logo threes, but it's like, as
the coach, you gotta be like, Okay, listen, that's super
cute and you're awesome, but you're not somebody has to
tell them that you were not Steph Curry, and there
(16:10):
is We've never seen a Steph Curry until Steph Curry,
for a reason.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Is gonna be out there crushing kids dream.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
I'm gonna go on tory because.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Somebody do it. If you doing early on, it's better.
It's better so that they can be better all around
athletes or a better athlete in their position by not
just trying to look cool. Because Steph Curry wasn't trying
to look cool. It's just that was his game.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
That was his game.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
And even when you watch the Matt Davison when he
went there, he was so small he couldn't go inside.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
He couldn't. That's why he's like, what I'm going I
don't didn't have like weak angles and weak knees like
nobody thought he was gonna get to this in his
NBA career.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Do you watch his first couple of games at Davidson.
He looked like he wasn't even going to play there.
I'm not even joking. I think was it a documentary
also they were showing it. He looked so bad in
those first couple of game and then practice that once
he finally got it and became Steph Curry. It was
like almost like we didn't even know this was going
to happen either.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Yeah, he didn't even know, but he figured it out.
He figured it out for himself. Well. On the other side,
I'm gonna ask Mark Stein about this stray, but also
I'm wondering what he thinks of Game seven, which is happening.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Because you I did say it was over, and six you.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Said it was over. You had no faith in the
Pacers the first.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Time, because I've had no You've had it, but other faith.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
In most people. But I did not, but you did
not a week ago. Sitting here with me, I'm wondering
how Mark Stein feels our NBA insider. We'll check in
with him next. Don't go anywhere. It's Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 7 (17:40):
Sports Radio Rado.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
What's up, everybody? Happy Sunday? Martin White's over there again?
Look at him? Is that anchor studio?
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Just limber over there?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
There? Yeah, living his best little life. I love that.
What's up everybody? Thanks for hanging out with Carrie Rhodes
and I on this day. Kevin Durant on the move
packed his bags. Maybe not yet, but maybe the slim
Reaper the Slim Reaper. Slim Reap. He doesn't like that name.
I love that because he has the kind of physique
(18:15):
for it, Like if you just gave his silhouette.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Just give him a little what's the thing called?
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Hold the thing is? Chris Purpat. I feel like I
was never gonna get me.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
I was taking a stab because I didn't you said thing,
and I was just like, wait, are we still talking
about reapers?
Speaker 2 (18:32):
We're talking about Kevin Durant fans.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
What are we talking about the.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Fact that I went to you hoping you knew and
you did, because if you would have given me four
multiple choice answers, I would have not picked up.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
I've got to at least use my master's degree something.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Yes, thank you, Chris Perfect. You are listening to Fox
Sports Radio. We have our NBA insider Mark Stein on
the line. Mark, how are you? How do you feel
about this k D to the Rockets trade? Because Carrie
and I think the Raw gets win big.
Speaker 5 (19:03):
Yeah, I'm inclined to a green. I think I think
Houston was really uniquely positioned among any of these teams
that we've heard chasing Durant and that they could trade
a Jalen Green and trade Dylan Brooks and give up
(19:27):
the number ten pick in Wednesday's draft, and none of
that really hurts them because they have so many good
young players and so many good draft picks in coming years.
Like they had the flexibility to surrender that package and
it doesn't hurt them.
Speaker 8 (19:43):
And we all saw it in the playoffs. They need
a bucket getter, yes, and all season long.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Look, the Rockets could have done this during the season.
They flat out resisted it during the season.
Speaker 8 (19:59):
Phoenix has always wanted.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
To do a deal with Houston because the Rockets. The
Rockets have control of all their draft picks. I mean
all of the picks that the Suns gave Brooklyn to
get Kevin Durant.
Speaker 8 (20:13):
The Rockets got control of them and have them.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
The Rockets have Phoenix's first in twenty twenty seven and
twenty twenty nine. So that's what Phoenix wanted and the
Rockets during the season. The Rockets said, look, we are
not trading with you during the season. We want to
give our young team a chance. See what they do
on the playoff stage the first round. Did not you know,
Houston was a number two seed. It lost, It lost
the Game seven at home, and they had offensive issues.
Speaker 8 (20:38):
The whole series. So that did make them realize, Okay, you.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Know we do need we don't have the kind of
flat out instant offense scoring that Kevin Durant can give
you as a catch and shoot maestro from all over
the floor. And again, like you look at what they
gave up, and I just don't think any of it
would have been harder for any other team in this
(21:03):
discussion to give up the kind of assets that the
Sons wanted. And look, the Sons are trying to come
as close as they could to making up for what
they gave up for Kevin Durant.
Speaker 8 (21:12):
Look, they did not come close.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
They didn't come close to getting what they gave up
for him, but they were the Sons really wanted a
first round pick on Wednesday night. This deal gives them
that they took the best deal it was on the table.
Speaker 7 (21:26):
Mark.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
See, that's why we're glad to have you here, just
that inside stuff right there. I mean, knowing that they
could have made this trade during the season, I mean,
obviously I think it was a good move to see
what they had in their young team and the fact
that they can make it happen now is obviously a plus.
But I'm excited about this trade for one reason, and
there's there's multiple reasons I could go, but I'm excited
(21:48):
to see Jabari Smith get a chance to learn from
Kevin Durant. I'm really high on him. I think his
ceiling's really high. What do you see his position being
with Kevin Durant coming in with that team and the
pieces they had.
Speaker 8 (21:59):
That's you're hitting on.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
One of the reasons Houston feels so good about this
trade because Jabari Smith juniors who Phoenix wanted here. I mean,
that's you know, like they couldn't get, you know, Reed Shepherd,
Jabari Smith junior. You know, the Rockets made it clear
like we're not trading you those guys like Okay, Jalen
Green is as far as we'll go.
Speaker 8 (22:21):
The number ten pick is as far as we'll go.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
And look, Mattisfia was very clear at his end of
season press conference that the Suns wanted some toughness and
some edge, and so Dylan Brooks does give them that.
Speaker 8 (22:34):
But the Rockets also have you.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
Know, their most untouchable player was a Men Thompson, and
a Men Thompson will now slot.
Speaker 8 (22:41):
Into the Dylan Brooks role.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
So that's that's where I'm saying, like Houston was just
uniquely set up that they could give Phoenix things that
the sons want and need, but without really hurting their ceilings.
And so like minnesot know, for Minnesota or Toronto to
do this, it just would have been too costly.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
You know. Miami.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
Miami just didn't want to give up where they didn't
you know, they have young guys there too that they
just didn't want to part with. So yeah, I mean,
look the fact that Jabari Smith stays and they you know,
Amen Thompson will get a larger role, and they do
you know, have now in KD an adult in the
room who's been all the way to the finish line
(23:27):
and can can show these cause they're they're the Rockets
are a very very very young team. And so I
do think Katie's experience can you know, he's not typically
a vocal leader, that's not really his thing, but they've
got Fred van Vliet for that, I mean, you know,
and and he he remains in place, and I don't
(23:48):
think Fred van Zliet's going anywhere.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
Like they will come to terms on a new deal.
Would be my expectation.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
So, like I said, Houston was really set up here
to do this more on terms than on the Sun's terms.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Mark, what is the latest with Jalen Green. I'm really
happy for him because I think he needed to change
his scenery. But do you think that the Sun's plan
on moving him. There's kind of mixed reports.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Whether he I mean, look, all I can what they're
signaling to this point is that they want to keep
him now around the league. There's going to be skepticism
even if the Sun say that, because you know, there
will be fit questions between you know, you got Jalen
Green and Devin Booker and they still have Bradley Beal
on the roster and they just don't have an easy
(24:34):
exit route to partying with Bradley Beal. I mean, he's
got two years, almost one hundred and eleven million dollars
left on his deal and it's just a buyout will
be very costly and there are a bunch of cap
complexities there that I don't want to.
Speaker 8 (24:49):
Bore you guys with.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
But for now, that is what the That is the
messaging that is coming out of Phoenix is they want
Jalen Green and look and that is what the Sun
are going to say. They can't even announce this trade
until July sixth, until we get to the new salary
cap year, and then of course the first week in
July there's always a moratorium. They can't do anything until
(25:11):
the moratorium lifts. So on Wednesday night, we're gonna have
to sit through the charade of Houston making the number
ten pick when everybody in the league will know it's Phoenix,
and whoever it is that young man will have to
put a Rockets cap on his head. And that's just
that's just the way it works in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
And collect and collectively we will all cheer and that
like we were surprised as well, So I think that's
part of it, Mark, But I want to I want
to kind of switch scares a little bit. I know
there's a there's a big Game seven tonight, that's that's
happening between the Pacers and the OKC Thunder. I was
on a record Mark saying that OKC was gonna win
(25:48):
Game five by double digits and and and win this
series in six. But the Pacers, just like they have
been all playoff long, they answered the bell, even with
the hamper Tyrese Haliburton. What do you see happening tonight
in Game seven in OKAC? Who do you think is
going to be able to hoist the trophy tonight?
Speaker 5 (26:08):
Well, look, history says that only four road teams have
won a Game seven in the finals, but the last
time it happened in twenty sixteen, the road team did
win Game seven, and it's going to be like, look,
I'm not smart enough to sit here and tell you
I know what's going to happen, but either way, we
(26:32):
are headed for you know, Oklahoma City.
Speaker 8 (26:37):
Even though technically.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
According to the NBA rule book, Seattles championship is on.
Speaker 8 (26:43):
Their ledger, the Thunder have.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
Always tried to say the Sonics history is their history.
Our history is separate. So the Thunder would treat this
as the first championship in franchise history if they're fortunate
enough to finish this thing off at home, and being
at home is a massive advantage, not just because it's
their floor, but the you know, the OKC crowd is
(27:06):
as loud as it gets in the league. And then
the Pacers on the other side, I mean, if they
have one more.
Speaker 8 (27:14):
Surprise in them and it's been just I think they
will go down if they can win one more game
as the most surprising Cinderella NBA champion we've ever seen.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Wow Wow, surpassing in twenty eleven, again surpassing the MAVs
in twenty eleven.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
I mean you any team, I mean any team you
wish to name. You know, you could say the MAVs
in twenty eleven.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
You know, the Houston Rockets in ninety five were technically
a six seed, but they were the defending champions and
traded for Clyde Drexler at midseason and had a team
Elijah one. The Bullets in seventy eight were forty four
and thirty eight. That's the worst record for an NBA champion,
but they had Elvin Hayes and west Unselt, who were,
(27:59):
you know, surefire hall of famers, And we knew it
then when they were playing that they were Hall of famers.
Speaker 8 (28:04):
Queen the Pacers. They squeaked to fifty wins. They were
ten and fifteen in December. Their two best players were
drafted twelfth and twenty seventh. Overall, this is not the
profile of a championship team.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
And again, they still have to win one more game,
and it's going to be the hardest game to win.
Speaker 8 (28:25):
But if the.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Pacers can find a way, to me, you cannot find
a grander Cinderella in NBA history than them winning this championship.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
And mark. With that being said, let's flip it. If
OKC loses, what does that mean?
Speaker 5 (28:47):
If OKAC loses, it would obviously be devastating because they
had one of the greatest regular season resumes ever and
that all gets thrown out the window if you don't
win it all. You'll just ask the seventy three win Warriors.
They didn't win that year, and you almost never hear
anybody bring up that team which started twenty four and oh, which,
(29:11):
in all of my life covering this league is one
of the most amazing things I've ever seen, and I
don't think it will ever be duplicated, a team starting
a season like that, But nobody talks about any of
that stuff because that team didn't win at all. That
team is some ways forgotten now, but as devastating as
it would be. You know, if we want to talk
(29:31):
about teams that are set up amazingly for the future,
I mean OKAC is you know, they're in better shape
than Houston when it comes to their young core, the
assets there. I mean, they have the optionality to keep
making moves, keep making their team stronger. And that's why
if the Thunder win, you're going to hear all the
(29:52):
dynasty talk. You know, they are probably the one team
in the NBA that could win in this current state
we're in where there's been seven you know, we're headed
for a seven champion in seven.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Years, which has never happened in the NBA. Seven different
champions in seven seasons.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
But the Thunder are set up for long term success
no matter what happens tonight. But they don't want to
think about that, talk about that. I mean, they don't
even want to hear any of this, Like they it
would be crushing for them to lose this now because
like you know, like Carry said, when they won Game five,
you you know, you think they're in control. You know,
the Game five winner goes on to win the finals
(30:29):
I think seventy.
Speaker 8 (30:29):
Five percent of the time, So.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
It would be it would be devastating for them, Letten.
It'll be devastating for the Pacers, I mean too, if
they can take it all the way to the end
and fall short. I mean, that's another fascinating question, how
will history look at these guys if they fall one
win short of a championship?
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Yeah, last one here, Mark. Do you think the finals
MVP is up for grabs on either side? Good question?
Speaker 5 (31:01):
Yeah, probably. I mean I'm certainly up for grabs on
the Indie side because Haliburton has been injured and so
he's you know, he's not going to be a full
capacity tonight eater, So that certainly opens the door for Siakam.
Speaker 8 (31:17):
I can't really see anybody.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
With SCA winning it if OKC wins win Game seven, But.
Speaker 8 (31:25):
Yeah, I think it's you know, it's fairly up for grabs.
I guess is wha put it?
Speaker 4 (31:30):
What about TJ McConnell. He's been a spot Mark, he's
been excellent. I know, I know it's I know that's
not happening, but I just love He'll.
Speaker 8 (31:40):
Probably have to settle for just be.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Right. Yeah, no, for being the hero in Indiana. Maybe
it never has to pay for another meal. Mark, Thank
you so much for joining us on this Sunday Enjoy
Game seven. We will talk to you soon.
Speaker 8 (31:55):
That's good guys, Take care.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Thanks Mark. You can follow Mark Stein on twit x
at the Stein Line. Our NBA correspondent. That was crazy
where you mentioned that Houston. That's the Suns wanted this
from Houston all season and they try to stick it
out because people they don't want to admit that they
messed up. They don't want to admit that they were wrong.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
And I love I actually loved that for it like
Houston side as well. I mean, you know, knowing that
the teens wanted to get that stuff, they asked, that's done.
I get that, But Houston's standing farm on, No, We're
going to see what our young corps has.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Well, I think we have a new champion. And let's
check in with Martin Weiss to tell us what is
happening in the world of sports.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Morton, we do go Tigers, God banners.
Speaker 9 (32:39):
Ed Orgeron would say, And I know plenty of people
from my home state are celebrating as Louisiana State Tigers
have just clinched the College Baseball World Series, getting a
ground into double play to end the ninth inning. The
tying run was on basis five to three. The final
score LSU wins the World Series and men's College baseball
(33:00):
two games to none over Coastal Carolina. In the WNBA,
the Aces beat the Fever eighty nine to eighty one.
Fever I mean Aces leading scoring by Asian Wilson with
twenty four points. Had five players in double figures. Caitlin
Clark seven for twenty from the floor, one for ten
for three nineteen points on the day. She's now one
(33:22):
for one for seventeen from her last three pointers and
her last three pointers attempted the last two games Dallas
and Washington. The Mystics with a ninety one to eighty
eight lead with twelve seconds left in overtime. Riquelgumbwale with
twenty seven points. She leads Sonya Citron also has twenty
seven for Washington. The Dream and the Sky ninety three
(33:45):
to eighty. Atlanta beat Chicago. Earlier today in Major League
Baseball active games, bottom of the sixth inning, the Red
Sox beat the Giants five to from leading the Giants
five to four. Top of the seventh, Guardians with the
three to nothing lead over the A's Astros and Angels.
Houston leads by e eight to five. Top of the
sixth inning, Royals lead the Padres two to nothing in
(34:07):
the bottom of the seventh, and the Washington leads La
the Dodgers, that is three to nothing in the bottom
of the sixth inning. Earlier today, the Yankees beat the
Ooriols forty two, Marlins beat the Braves five to three,
Tigers outscored Raised nine to three, Ragers defeat the Pirates
eight to three, White Sox top the Blue Jays Florida two,
and the Marlins came from behind against Atlanta with a
(34:29):
five to three win.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
And you guys were just talking about it.
Speaker 9 (34:33):
The Phoenix Suns have agreed to a trade sending fifteen
time All star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, Dalen Green,
Dylan books Brooks, the number ten pick in this year's draft,
and five second round picks will go back to Phoenix
when this trade can be it's all consummated. And this
is one of my biggest pet peeves and I'll leave
(34:53):
I'll pick it back to you with this.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
I know what you're about to say. What is that
the two greatest words in sports?
Speaker 9 (34:57):
No no, no no no no. I do I love
the two grades. I agree with this one. But okay,
the idea that we all know that the tenth pick
in the draft is going to Phoenix but on draft
night he's going to have to walk out there and
si Adam Silver, sheandon wear a Rockets hat?
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Why?
Speaker 7 (35:14):
Why?
Speaker 5 (35:15):
For?
Speaker 8 (35:15):
What?
Speaker 1 (35:15):
For?
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Who who's it for? Because then it just looks stupid.
Speaker 9 (35:18):
Like, let's say this guy becomes an incredible player and
is a Hall of Famer, and every year on his
draft day, when we go back to look and see
what type of shilly shoe he had on, he's gonna
be wearing the wrong hat.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah, thank goodness for AI, We'll just swap it out.
But you're right, he is not wrong, and he is
Martin Wise. Thanks Martin. Be sure to check out our

Speaker 2 (36:10):
Fox Sports Sunday. I am Manci Bolanas alongside former All
Pro safety Carry Roads hanging out with you on this
day where we found out that Kevin Durant is going
to the Houston Rockets carry and I really like that
move for Houston. They were already contenders. Now they're I
don't know, extra contenders.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
They were number two in the West with.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Reason for a reason because all of the effort, gritty
stuff that other teams don't do, they already did. Yeah,
so now they add Kevin Durant. Sniper, yes, easy money,
slim ripper, slim reaper, who doesn't like his name. He
doesn't like his name. Kevin Durant moves the needle. He does,
he still does at his at his age. It's impressive.
(36:49):
He's twenty five points wherever he plays, wherever he play,
it doesn't matter, no, And that's that's a mid game.
That's easy. That's an easy game. He's not trying. But
somebody that moves the needle in a way that it's
like I watched this up close and personal because I
work for them. Uh huh show he o Tani Like, oh, TONI.
I work for the Dodgers. You know, I work in
(37:10):
the tour department. I've been working for the Dodgers for
over ten years, and so I've been there up closer long.
It's been that longing eye. I said I was gonna
quit three years ago, and then we signed Shootanni. I
still there. Uh So this past week, late at night
on Sunday night, after the game, it comes out notification
(37:30):
show heo Tani will start on the mound tomorrow, almost
two years since the last pitch for the Los Angeles Angels. Carrie.
There was no other way to do that but to
drop the information last minute. People were there. We opened
the gates early, not even a twenty four hour notice,
(37:53):
and he you know, Dodger fans and olay, there's a
lot of traffic. You might miss the first pitch a
lot of times. You just show up in the first
inny second. Everybody was in their seats to watch this
many pitch for one inning, by the way, I know,
but it was the only way to do it. Because
the gates opened an hour early, people were there. People
(38:14):
probably didn't go to work carry that day, and I
went into work. None of us knew even even our
security had to like on the on the fly adjust things.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
It was a last minute decision, but it was the
only way to do it. If you would have told people, hey, guys,
in one week or Tani's gonna make his debut on
the mound, people would have lost their minds for an
entire week.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
For sure.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
There's I don't know if there's other if there's players
that actually can do this, where like the whole city
was like, Okay, we're not going to work tomorrow' I'm
going to Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
No, not to that, not to this degree right now, right,
I mean, obviously this is also it was a monumental
moment as well. I mean, this is going to be
his first time on the mound with the Dodgers, and
of course it was going to break break the internet,
that that thing. But I want to see him pitch.
I know they're easing them in absolutely, of course, but
(39:05):
the whole thing, he's going to pitch the game. I
was like, always going to pitch five six innings. He
eight pitches. I'm like, all right, a little bit more,
but I'm sure they'll ease into it.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
And he today he went back on the mound, just
the first inning. Struck out two today, but in his
first outing, two of his pitches went over one hundred
miles an hour. It did, yes, and like you were
just like, man, he hasn't And what's crazy is Carrie?
He finished the He finished the inning. He didn't even
step into the dugout. He stepped off to the side.
They gave him that shin to protect his ankle. Yep,
(39:34):
and then he went aback because he was first. He's first, right,
what are like on reel we talk about unicorns and
like this and that, but show how Tawny is the
real deal. He gets hit by a pitch, he don't care.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
That point, he don't care. He walked over to the
bench like, what's up.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
I'm good, hundred miles proud on my shoulder blade. I'm good,
no problem. And you know what, there's no problem because
we have two more hours to go carry so much
still to talk about NBA, NFL with our insider Adam Kaplan.
It's Fox Sports Sunday. That is right, what's up everybody?
I forgot to turn my mic on like it's my
first day. What's up? Everyone? Happy Sunday? Mary Mack on
(40:09):
the ones and two is giving me that. Yes, thank you,
that's what I wanted. You got me, girl, You got me.
What's up? Everybody? Happy? KD goes to the Houston Rockets
Day Happy Game seven Carrie. For a hot second, I
forgot we have a game seven.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Don't forget that.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Don't forget we're rushing. Oh yeah, we're gonna be signing
off like already with the door open and running to
our car so that we can watch this game at home.
Don't worry, we are gonna dive into game seven later
on on the show. But something happened about a week ago.
Maybe it happened like a week ago exactly today or
(40:45):
maybe Monday. But once again, Lebron James starts trending. Once again,
Lebron James starts saying things, and you're just gonna scratch
your head like, huh, Lebron, what, I'm sorry? What did
you just tell Steve Nash? I love Steve Nash? Squeez him?
Can't we have sound of Lebron? Just in case you
(41:10):
missed it? Here we go.
Speaker 6 (41:11):
It's funny.
Speaker 7 (41:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (41:12):
I don't know why I've discussed so much in our
sport and why is the all be all of everything.
You sit here and you tell me, you know Alan
I Everson and Charles Barkley and Steve Nash, you know,
you know, wasn't unbelievable, Like, oh, they can't be talked
(41:33):
about or discussed with these guys is because this guy
one one ring or one two rings or one like
it's just it's just weird to me. It's like Sam
Peyton Manning can't be in the same room with Brady
or Mahomes because he only has one ring. They don't
never discuss that in the sport or telling me that
Dann Marino is not the greatest slinger of all time,
or he can't be in the room with those guys
(41:54):
because he didn't win a championship. They don't discuss those things.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Okay, okay, okay, so many things right.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
Let me go first, Lebron moves the goal post more
than anyone in the history, but to benefit himself.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
That's all this is. I mean, nobody's talking about that. Obviously.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
We know that in the Annals of History. We put
the Goat conversation based on Michael Jordan. He has six
he has more than you. He doesn't have more than
Bill Russell. Nobody says Bill Russell is the best player
ever because he's won eleven rings. That's not part of
the discussion. The discussions only solely based around Jordan and
(42:36):
Lebron when it comes to rings. Because obviously, physically, we
look at Lebron and say, he's the most physically imposing
player we've ever seen in the history of basketball, at
his size to speed, what he does, that doesn't make
him the best player ever though, And I think the
conversation surrounding it usually does come around the rings with
them two, but that's not the whole NBA. And so
(43:00):
the fact that he says these things, it's only to
benefit himself, and then he likes to bring and drag
other people names to the conversation when it's like, no, Lebron,
just say what you really want to say. And if
he says that one day, then I will probably be like,
you know what, Lebron, I get you now. But he
never does.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
No, there's nothing at this point, Lebron. You actually cannot
make anyone I think change their minds on their opinion
of you because of the way you present yourself, saying
after the wasn't it the twenty sixteen NBA Finals that
he's like, this is what makes me the best because
they beat the Warriors when the Warriors had the best record.
(43:39):
Remember yep, what you said that in twenty sixteen. Okay, Okay,
Like perfect example, Bill Russell, he's not in the goat discussions.
Every now and then there is somebody who may bring
him up right and they're like, no, he's my goat,
and it's like okay, but in reality, we know he
has the most rings and nobody, nobody cares about that. No, no, yes, Lebron.
(44:00):
There are a ton of great players that deserve the
credit and recognition even though they haven't won a ring,
but we do. Allen Iverson gets brought up all the
time of how great he was, Charles Barkley gets brought
up all the time of how great he was. I
that's a lie. And also when you come down to it,
and if you have to.
Speaker 10 (44:21):
Pick who the best player is and they're all the same,
then you go to rings, like like if everything else
checks off and you need one other factor to determine
why you're better, we're gonna go to rings, my guy,
Like everything else can be exactly the same.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
And so it's just like you, I cannot believe how
many times you have changed the goal, switch the goal,
the goal post, switch, the storyline, change the conversation to
benefit you talk about Dan Marino. No, no, no, that
is the conversation dan Marino. They're like, no, he never won.
He can't be in the conversation. What do we talk
I hear that all the time. I legit, hear that
(44:58):
all the time about Dan Marino. And it's a perfect
season right that they didn't make it. Yes, he he
is not in the conversation. Peyton Manning has run twice
and yes they mentioned he's got two, but Tom Brady's
got six, Like what are this is what? He literally
just lies through his teeth.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Only to benefit himself.
Speaker 4 (45:17):
And that's the part that's the crazy scary part about
it because he talks so much. I think the other
part about it from like priors, right, like the other
greats that we've talked about are discussed in the past,
they didn't have as many platforms to speak, and I
think that benefited them so so so much because what
(45:37):
you just said, things that you said nine years ago
still holds weight because.
Speaker 3 (45:41):
You said it.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
I can really yes, And that's.
Speaker 4 (45:44):
The part where he has to be careful, and I
just don't think he gets that part of it. We
heard you say nine years ago you are the goat,
like put the crown to me, I'm the king, Like
we've seen that. So the fact that everybody's not on
board with that doesn't make them all wrong.
Speaker 3 (45:58):
It just means you've put yourself in that position.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
Correct. My problem here is that I agree with the
overall point that he's trying to make, right good point.
You make a good point, but then you make it
about yourself, and that's where you lose us because you
could have not mentioned you or like, I don't we
know what you're trying to prove because you're trying to
(46:22):
be the goat and everyone's you know, in every conversation,
but you could have had I agree that sometimes winning
a ring sometimes holds too much value as to why
you want to diminish someone's career. I agree with that. Yes,
there it's been unfair for some players where it's like
they were freaking badass and they just didn't get there.
But then this causes people to come out like Tracy
(46:45):
McGrady comes out and says, oh, you switch me with Kobe.
You don't think I could have done that, my guy.
You had Yelming on the rockets, you had and and
Shane Battier. I'm like trying to remember Stephen is scull
out with the long hand. You had a good team.
What are you talking about? And you did not get
(47:07):
out of the first round. Also, you were part of
the Orlando Magic when the East was still not great
and you didn't do anything and you were a star
in Orlando. Like I that's what is upsetting. It's like
then other people chime in and you know the joke
of like they're they're in clutch sports pockets, yes, and
it's like it feels like they are. Why are you
(47:30):
saying this, Tracy McGrady about Kobe Bryant. We saw Kobe
with our We saw you with our own eyes. We
saw you. You were great. You did not need to
bring up Kobe and say if you switch us, I
could have done that. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (47:43):
No, it's just trying to make a point. But you
know him and Kobe are really really tight.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
And so.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
Kobe, Kobe's looking down right now, like, Bro, I'll haunt
you in your sleep.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
Him and Kobe are really really tight. But the fact
that I know he was just trying to prove a point.
And that's the thing what I just said, though, like
we're giving all these people of the platform to speak
these things, right, And when you get out of the
game and you've been removed for a while, your perception
of your time playing and your situation. Sometimes we talked
about moving the gold post. Sometimes that gets a little
(48:13):
skewed even to me, Like I can see it as
a former player when I look at the game now
and be like, if I was planning in this era,
I have thirty picks. It's like your interpretation of the game.
We always see it as not being as good as
it was when we played, because if it was, then
we could still play it forty right, Like that would
(48:35):
be the thinking. And so I know where these things
are coming from. But I just want all of them
to pump the brakes and just your time's over. My dude,
you had your chance. We all saw it. We don't
need to relive it. We know this isn't like it
was forty years ago when we weren't you know, we
were two years old or not born. We witnessed it.
So you had your chance, you were in a good situation,
(48:58):
didn't get it done.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
Just live with that, but also like Lebron, like you
are greet you didn't need to do any of this,
and you the fact that you're still doing it, it's
kind of like my guy, Like, like you said, you're done.
There is a new generation of players, and instead of
you trying to squeeze the juice out of your own talent,
you did not need to do that. You are one
(49:19):
of the greats. Nobody is denying that. And to some
people you are their number one, but to majority you're not.
You're you're a number two, maybe a number three, because
you keep rubbing people the wrong way in that part.
Speaker 4 (49:32):
Imagine Jordan comes on NBC this season and the whole campaign,
the whole season, he talks about He's the greatest. You
don't think he would take it. He would get some
some flak for that as well. Like that's part of it.
It's because you're saying it. Jordan has never been on
record saying I'm the goat. Whenever that conversation comes up,
he always deflects that he does.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
And that's what you should do.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Yeah, but I would love Michael on a broadcast just
score the Earth. Yeah, No, like if they bring it
up to him, No, I'm the King. I'm actually the king.
This guy is a cuckoo bird. He's great, but he's
a kuckoo bird, and I am that would be great.
But you're right, he's never done that. Kobe also never
did that. No, And even like Shaq, Shaq who is
(50:16):
great and he thinks he's the greatest big man. He
thinks he's the greatest big man. But he'll also like
give his flowers, and there is like a difference where
it's like Shaq has never changed his mind. But he
also doesn't move a goal post. He wants the big
man to be a big man, and that's how he's
gonna criticize you. If you're a big man who likes
to shoot the three, he's gonna take you down because
he wants you to play like he did. He's holding
(50:37):
the same standard Shaq when he talks about the big
man exactly, but when when it comes to Lebron, you
hit it right on the head. It's just moving the
goal post every single time, whether it's a little bit
or a lot to benefit him, And it's so obvious
to everyone and their mom, but yet he keeps doing it,
and I feel like he doesn't realize that it's diminished
(51:00):
his career. Yes, you're already great, Lebron. You're a great,
no question, no question. I think also it's kind of
just like, all right, you trying to convince us, you're
trying to convince yourself. Who are you trying to convince?
At this point? That's a great point because you've been
around for so long. We have seen your career. There
are no question marks as to what you can do
(51:21):
and what you've done on the court, and you've had
great moments. But rights, it's okay, it's giving insecure, Yes,
a thousand per Yes, Yes, unreal.
Speaker 4 (51:30):
I just saw that game, the game you're talking about,
the twenty sixteen game seven when they came back to
beat Golden State in Golden State and he had.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
A great game, and and.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
I literally literally was watching it.
Speaker 4 (51:42):
I was like, man, I actually like Lebron right now
in that moment, like I was like, oh, I like that.
And now you fast forward nine years and I can't
stand what he does.
Speaker 3 (51:52):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
I have a Cleveland Cavaliers Wow MVP cood sure Lebron
James shirt. You've never seen me wear it, and I
love wearing my all my sports stuff. Maybe I'll maybe
I'll pull it out. I have that. I have a
Miami Heat Lebron James shirt. I liked Lebron. I was
(52:13):
a fan of Lebron. When he came to LA I
still was like, okay, fine, you joined the team that
I hate the most, the Lakers. I thought you could
have been you want to call yourself the King. I
thought you could have been the King of the East
for your entire career, dominated the East. You came to
the West and it's been mid, been mid for the Lakers. Yes,
(52:38):
you won in twenty twenty, and there will always be
a star on that one because it was not a
normal year. Not that you didn't win it. Somebody was
gonna win it. But if you were to describe every
championship team with one sentence, right you get to twenty twenty,
you're like, oh, that's the bubble year. Like, there's no
way you don't mention that, right, There's no way, you know.
(52:59):
So it's it's different no matter how you slice it
and dice it. It is different that you guys wanted
that year and you won the d season Tournament. Whoop
de dooo, Basel, What does it all mean? Absolutely nothing?
In the grand scheme of things.
Speaker 4 (53:12):
Well, let Lebron tell it. He's going to move the
gold post and it would be the greatest championship of
all time, of.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
All time, that one the in season tournament against the Pacers. Yes, unreal.
It's it's really just like, Lebron, stop talk, king.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
Let us do it for you. You are great, Lebron.
Speaker 4 (53:29):
You there is no questions like, we don't need any
assurance of that, reassurance of that you are great.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
Lebron.
Speaker 4 (53:38):
Listen to me, if you are listening right now, you
don't have to speak about your greatness. You're the king.
If you want to be called that, I won't call
you that again. But right now you're the king.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
Right now, you're the king. Listen, I'm getting into this.
What is this?
Speaker 3 (53:52):
I no, no, but I'm just this is a Swan song.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
Swan song.
Speaker 3 (53:58):
You don't have to do it.
Speaker 4 (53:58):
We're gonna do it for you, no matter if your first, second, third, fourth, fifth,
like you did with the ring thing, You're going to
be good when you're out.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
But you got one you did not deliver. This was
really frustrating to hear. And then the discourse continued and
that made it even more frustrating because other people decided
to chime in. But I do hear what you're saying,
shedding light on like being a former player and looking
at the game now, how you tend to want to
(54:30):
feel like I could have done this had the game
been like this for me, that makes sense to me.
I get that. I guess, like even I think about
my you know, illustrious high school volleyball career, was like, man,
I could have been better, but I didn't take it
seriously or he didn't put in the effort or all
the things, and so I get that, but I didn't
like it. And it's just as simple as Lebron, you
(54:53):
don't need to do this.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
I just want to put a finger over his mouth
and just like just hush.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
So like in Dumb and Dummer when he puts his
finger on the girl's lip and touches and yeah, just go,
just go, just go. Lebron, You're great. You're great. Nobody's
denying it. Nobody's denying it. Well, on the other side
of this, there is a rookie NFL player that is
great but off the field not making the greatest decision.
(55:24):
So we're gonna talk to Adam Kaplan our NFL insider. Next,
don't go anywhere. This is Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Everybody?
Happy Sunday? You are listening to Fox Sports Radio with
former All Pro safety Carry Roads and Me Mansiolanos, and
we got a jam going on. Mary Mack, who is this?
Got it?
Speaker 4 (55:44):
You know?
Speaker 2 (55:44):
I was like, it's not Carol g but it made
me wonder if it was like okay, gotcha? Oh nice? Nice?
I knew it was Spanish Rosadia. Yeah, yeah, it makes sense. Yeah,
so I was like, okay, all right, nice, Thank you
Mary for bringing this song into my life. I may
have to add this to my to my rundown. I
send it to you. We are getting ready to speak
(56:06):
to our NFL insider, Adam Kaplan, who is here with us.
Adam Happy Game seven in the NBA. Are you going
to watch the game?
Speaker 7 (56:14):
I will?
Speaker 2 (56:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (56:15):
Look, I know the TV rings aren't great, but you
know what it's it is a Game seven. It's gone
farther than most people thought.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
Yep.
Speaker 11 (56:22):
It's been a very interesting series. I mean, it's just
a shame that they don't have the national appeal. And
that's that's the way it works in television, is that
if you're not in a big meet and market if
both or not, if they're in mid, mid or lower tier,
it's just people are just not gonna watch generally.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
But but real quick on this marketing, they've done a
bad job because when it's the super Bowl, I see
super Bowl left and right. It doesn't matter who's in it.
It's just super Bowl.
Speaker 7 (56:46):
Here, it's a great point.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
In the finals, I haven't seen anything.
Speaker 11 (56:50):
Well, here's the thing, guys. Look, first of all, the
super Bowl is one game. Right, Sure, it's a it's
not a best out of seven.
Speaker 7 (56:56):
That's that's part of it.
Speaker 11 (56:57):
You're you're, you're just it's like the biggest game in
professional sports. That's the way on your point, Montee, that's
way it's been marketed. So I've covered the league. That's
just the way it is. Whereas the NBA, and you're right,
it like in the NBA. Look if it's if these
are not New York, Boston, Philly, Golden State, well at
(57:18):
a point, the gold Seat doesn't have the cashe that
they once what but still it's not a national team
like the NFL will tell you when when the schedule
makers make the schedule, they have a group of small
group of less than ten teams they called national teams.
Those are the teams that the networks won on television
the most.
Speaker 7 (57:35):
That's the way it is.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
It's the way it is. Before I give you a
real question, what are the two greatest words in sports?
Is it Game seven or is it super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (57:43):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (57:45):
Oh super Bowl?
Speaker 11 (57:46):
Well see this, then let me let me expand on
your point about just the matchups and so forth.
Speaker 7 (57:52):
The people are gonna watch really no matter what, that's true.
Speaker 11 (57:56):
The super Bowl has the most crossover appeal to nonsports fans.
Why you've got little little friendly wagering, you've got it's
the biggest thing.
Speaker 7 (58:05):
Everybody gets to go.
Speaker 11 (58:06):
My mother, okay, my ninety five year old mother would
ask me for years who I liked in the game.
She wasn't because what they have the what are they
called squares or something? Yes, yes, yeah, she would play
squares at the Super Bowl parties. And that there you go, MONSI,
it is crossover a peal. She doesn't know anything, She
probably coudn't even name who the teams are, but she
wants to play squares. It's just the crossover peal. We
(58:28):
don't have that unfortunately in other sports, like we have
in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
I mean, you're right. Everybody loves squares and they doesn't
matter who's playing, who's what. People go to Super Bowl
parties just because it's a party. Yeah, no, okay, you're
you're right, all right. First real question here, Adam news
this week that Shador Sanders twice this month cited for
speeding over one hundred miles an hour. This is just
(58:55):
a bad start for a fifth round pick in a
situation where there's five quarterbacks on the roster. What do
the Browns do with this?
Speaker 11 (59:06):
Well, look, they've talked to him, they know everything about it.
They know it's not just once, it's twice. We're not
surprised if he's fined. Fine, sometimes they're not made public,
but look, they have to set an example here. This
is just not good because, for one, understand, he did
some good things in the OT program. I know it's
the off season, you don't put a lot of stock
(59:28):
into it, but there's a situation here, folks, where you've
got four quarterbacks. They don't know their starting quarterback is
going to be. There's an opportunity for him to.
Speaker 7 (59:37):
Carve out a role this season.
Speaker 11 (59:38):
And as a matter of fact, once you get once
they get out of the playoff rates, which should be
around that Thanksgiving, if not before. That's typically when you
look at the younger, not just younger quarterback, you start
looking towards next season.
Speaker 7 (59:49):
So, yeah, this is not good.
Speaker 11 (59:51):
You don't need this kind of distraction, and it just
goes to show shows you there's a sign of maturity.
Speaker 7 (59:57):
He's got it, He's got no better and that's just
the way it is.
Speaker 4 (01:00:00):
I think a follow up on that same topic is
if this was any other fifth round pick, would they
be released right now? In your opinion? What do you think?
Speaker 11 (01:00:08):
That's a good question. You know, that's a really good question.
Well speeding, okay, wasn't going to d u y or
anything like that. It's being still not good, so one
could get hurt obviously, right, you don't want to have that,
but that because of what happened, I would say probably not.
Speaker 7 (01:00:26):
No, I get the question. It's a fair question.
Speaker 11 (01:00:29):
But if there was something more serious then and that's
completely different. Absolutely you consider doing it even even though
it's should or Now, what if let's put it this way,
what if it had not been Shud or Sanders but
a second or first round pick. You know, that's that's
a good place in to carry's question and point the
higher the draft pick, the greater challenge. Just the way
(01:00:51):
this league is, you could say whatever you want, it's truth.
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
Yeah, that's good. Moving on from there. You have a
follow up on this one. Okay, perfect? All right? Adam?
Last week I asked you about JayR Alexander Civilly joining
the Ravens and you did not think that was going
to happen. It obviously did?
Speaker 7 (01:01:11):
Was this?
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
Why?
Speaker 8 (01:01:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
Yeah, here's the.
Speaker 11 (01:01:13):
Money he was They were not signing for ten to
twelve million, which is really what he should have gotten. Yep,
the real money is four million dollars like that?
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
Really? Is that it?
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
Adam?
Speaker 11 (01:01:23):
Yes, woes how look, I know he wanted to play
with Lamar.
Speaker 7 (01:01:29):
I know it's part of it.
Speaker 11 (01:01:31):
There's a saying in the National Football League, wen you
he had a number of teams interested in him. Now,
usually Carrie knows this, Usually I have leverage. However, if
they're all offering four to six million a season, you
just go. You go somewhere where you know you could win. Now,
my thought process was when you asked me that there's
no way he's going to get less than ten to
twelve million in the season. I understand their concerns about
(01:01:55):
his injury history.
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
That was my fire.
Speaker 11 (01:01:56):
I also said he wouldn't make anywhere close to seventeen
and a half million, that that was true, that was
what he was due. I'm guaranteed with green Bay. But
it is surprising that the real money is only four million.
That that's a stunner to me. And here's the other thing,
because I've learned this over the years. If you have
an offer like this, unless Baltimore is gonna put off
(01:02:16):
the table, why don't you just wait till start a
training camp or wait till somebody gets hurt. You know,
that's just the way. Unfortunately, that's what happens. I mean,
players get hurt, then you have more leverage. I'm and
I know John Thornton. You know his agent who played
in the league, and you know John's it's on his call.
He just tells him what's out there and what the
money looks like, what other teams are offering. And I
(01:02:38):
know there was more money out there for him, But
to take four million, to me stunning, that's just I Look,
I'm not him.
Speaker 7 (01:02:44):
So he's made a lot of money.
Speaker 11 (01:02:46):
His curse so he's he could, he could, he could
say he could just take something low in June.
Speaker 7 (01:02:51):
It's still surprising, let's be honest about it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Yeah, but he's he played seven games last season, none
after thanks Giving.
Speaker 7 (01:02:57):
But you know what, he's only twenty eight.
Speaker 11 (01:02:59):
And think about this, right, Baltimore had a problem at
corner last season. Nate Wiggins did a good job and
and you you look at their situation. They knew going
They brought in Chiudobi, a woozy. He was a good player,
but he's been hurt a lot. He'll be a backup.
And they felt like they needed another starting corner because
(01:03:20):
Marlon Humphrey what they like. He starts obviously, but when
they go to Nickel, they like to have him play inside.
They didn't have another cornerback they felt that could start
or could come in. And that's where JayR Alexander comes in. Now,
by the way, four million dollars is really backup money
the National Football I gotta be honest with you, Yes,
that's the surprising thing. Carry I don't know about you,
but that that to me to take four million.
Speaker 7 (01:03:41):
There's upside to it to get the six, but I
just I don't buy it.
Speaker 11 (01:03:45):
I would not if I was advising, I said, let's
I mean, if you want to make some money, why
don't you wait.
Speaker 7 (01:03:51):
To have real leverage to get real money? But you didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:03:53):
Yeah, you know, I'm definitely surprised. I mean I've known
I've known Jayere since he was a kid. I mean,
I've known him when he was at Louisville and sure,
always eager to play. I mean, and you know, NFL
changes changes you, obviously once you started to make the
big bucks. But he was a kid that just wants
to play. Adam, that's that's you know. He likes to compete,
and likes to talk, likes to do all those things.
Speaker 11 (01:04:13):
And so go helps them. By the way, Baltimore that
they are now stacked. Nate Wiggins had a good rookie season. Yeah,
Alexander Humphrey a woozy. Now now they've got and TJ.
Tampa was the fourth rounder, was hurt last season, so
now they've got legitimate corners. This is this is really
good for matchup purposes, no question. And Gyr again months
you're right throwing it back to you. He's had a
(01:04:34):
number of injuries. He missed twenty games the last two seasons,
but he's only twenty eight and the talent is not
the table from one understand, was pretty good lest season
when he played.
Speaker 7 (01:04:42):
He just you can't pay guys if they're not healthy.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
You are listening to Fox Sports Radio. We've got our
NFL insider Adam Kaplan joining us right now. All right,
Moving on to Travis Kelcey. Apparently he's lost twenty five pounds.
He's trying to get back in it.
Speaker 7 (01:05:00):
Maybe got a.
Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
Better haircut and anyone he needs one, he does. I
don't know if that was guys. You know he's he's happy,
he's in love. You let yourself go, you let your
hair go. But he's lost twenty five pounds. Can we
see the Travis Kelsey we saw two years ago. Carrie's saying, no.
Speaker 11 (01:05:18):
Ra he really fell off last years. Yeah, I tell
you well, carry Look carry played. He knows that when
you lose your legs at a skill position, when you
got to run, he does. He's not doesn't move as
well as he used to it. It was a struggle
for him.
Speaker 7 (01:05:31):
Now. I know.
Speaker 11 (01:05:32):
I was told by someone who knows him pretty well
that despite all that, he told me this after Super
Bowl has listened. I know it's going to be out
there that he might retire. He's not going to retire
because he's got way too much pride. He's not going
to go out like this. But I said to this person, now,
hang on a second, but what.
Speaker 7 (01:05:47):
If you lose it? Why? Like that? Carrie?
Speaker 11 (01:05:50):
You tell me, as a former player and you've seen
it from around the league during your time, what happens
when you can't run as well.
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
I'm gonna tell you. When you can't run as well, obviously,
you start to do things that are out of character, right,
Like you'll for him, he's a tight end and he
does it anyway.
Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
He's a good body positioner.
Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
I you know, you know the perfect example of not
having it anymore and still played a couple of years
down in the stretch of their career. That was Tony
Gonzalez when he went to Atlanta. I love Tony, so
this is not a slide on him at all, but
when he went to Atlanta he was.
Speaker 3 (01:06:23):
Such a shell of himself.
Speaker 4 (01:06:24):
And when I was covering him, like just having those
one on one battles that we used to have.
Speaker 7 (01:06:28):
You know it. Oh so it's a player.
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
Wow, you really saw yeah? Like you you literally sit
on everything.
Speaker 7 (01:06:33):
Could you describe that like what you saw? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:06:35):
No, no, I mean there's no shiftinginess in Tony Gonzalez
in his Atlanta years, right, So all he did to
get open was run to you, push off and position
you almost like playing basketball, right, And that's what those
big guys do. And I can see Travis Kelsey still
kind of being that he's not going to be a
guy that's going to be able to go fifteen yards
down the field and run a flag and get open
(01:06:56):
right like a little if you need five six yards
a cal the middle, he can do that just.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
By body positioning.
Speaker 4 (01:07:02):
But when you can't run and get separation, you just
you're no good in that league.
Speaker 7 (01:07:06):
Wow, that's good.
Speaker 11 (01:07:07):
So you know zach Ertz is I'll give an examples
to zach Ertz with Washington and they love having him
for his leadership.
Speaker 7 (01:07:12):
And he's still look, he gets first stands, he gets open.
Speaker 11 (01:07:14):
Not that Zach was a Bernie, wasn't the athlete that
Kelsey was, right, but veteran savvy knowing how to run routes.
And I know they do a lot of option routes
with chiefs him and Mahomes. You know that that that
really good chemistry. But man, the thing about Travis who
made him so special he will be a Hall of Famer.
By the way, yes, is his ability to run after
the catch.
Speaker 7 (01:07:32):
Bond.
Speaker 11 (01:07:32):
See as we sent it back to you, that look
lost last season. He just didn't have it all right.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
So NFL network at him has a bold prediction okay,
that the Broncos are going to dethrone the Chiefs in
the ash.
Speaker 7 (01:07:46):
It's funny.
Speaker 11 (01:07:47):
This is out, so I'll talk about it. I actually
picked on television on Sports grad. I actually picked the
Chargers to win the division. Churts so terrible gets the
Chiefs from number two. But I completely miss on the
Chargers last season. I didn't see with the roster.
Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
Me neither.
Speaker 7 (01:08:02):
But man, look great coaching you carry.
Speaker 11 (01:08:04):
You know this great coaching could sometimes overcome Look Washington
with the coaching they did. The roster wasn't that great.
That's why they regretsive the offseason. So this is the Manzi.
The great thing about this league is when we think
we know, we don't know Denver by the oddsmakers last
year was given it four and a half win total.
Speaker 7 (01:08:21):
Okay, four and a half.
Speaker 11 (01:08:22):
Trust me, I thought about like I thought it like
maybe the other might happen.
Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Wow, I didn't see it.
Speaker 11 (01:08:27):
Now, Now, look, do we know that Bonnicks would be
as good as he was? And I know they had
a great schedule that the schedule is easy. Some people
point out, but they got in the playoffs. You say
whatever you want. Now, obviously now teams know about them
and they'll play them differently. But coaching matters, folks, man,
it is super important this business.
Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
Yeah, Denver will not win that the vision. It will
be Charges. I agree, really really I feel that way
as well.
Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 4 (01:08:50):
I think they've added a few pieces that can really,
you know, get them over the hump. Defense will be well,
I mean, Kansas City is going to be Kansas City,
but I think Different is going to take a step back.
Speaker 11 (01:08:58):
Actually, well, I'll tell what if the Chargers can get
involved with Jayalen Ramsey and get him in there.
Speaker 7 (01:09:03):
Because they're not very good at corner. That's the one
problem that I have.
Speaker 11 (01:09:05):
They got enough past rush, they're very well coached, but
they're not very good at corner. That's going to be
a problem for them. Are they overachieved at that position?
You know, they've restocked their offensive line.
Speaker 7 (01:09:17):
I know they're good there.
Speaker 11 (01:09:18):
They feel like they're good at receiver and they add
you know they're gonna run it with Harrison now with
Mari and.
Speaker 7 (01:09:23):
Hamp Do, who I love.
Speaker 11 (01:09:24):
But the one thing that's going to prevent them from
winning a ring is the cornerback position is not very
good for that football team.
Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
All right, last one here, and it's it's early to
ask this, but speaking of dethroning, do you think the
NFC North is dethroning the A of C North in
being the toughest division this year?
Speaker 11 (01:09:43):
Well, that's the I know what you're getting because you're
assuming the Bears are Ben Johnson are going to make
a big jump.
Speaker 7 (01:09:49):
I get that.
Speaker 11 (01:09:50):
Well, the problem is the Browns now, Look, we could
all be wrong in this one. The odds makers, the
public thinks they're gonna be terrible because of the quarterback position.
They're given a four to four and a half way total.
Some books have him at three and a half, which
is comical. Yep, I would say this. The Bengals, I
think that they're gonna bounce BA because they're gonna be
coached better.
Speaker 7 (01:10:09):
Defensively. I don't know what they were terrible?
Speaker 11 (01:10:11):
List Yeah, on defense, we got Rodgers there in the
AFC North, they have to be better, right, Well, I
don't know about that. The people are still better in
the under their bad look, they over owned Mike Thomas
never had to losing record. The overrunner total is eight
and a half, which is scratches my head. But I
would say the NFC North has, yes, has a very
good chance to be better because I think Ben Johnson
(01:10:32):
is going to work out.
Speaker 7 (01:10:33):
They needed badly needed discipline. They've got it.
Speaker 11 (01:10:36):
He coaches hard. The Lions, we know they'll get Hutchinson back.
They had a number of players they had this offseum particular.
The draft packers are always good. Now here's the before
we end this. JJ McCarthy's the simple. It's it's still simple.
If he plays as well as they think he could play,
they actually could push for the division. That's a little strong,
but they're really well coached. The decordinator Floors is phenomenal.
(01:11:00):
Top three to Defen's the Bots, the natural FOOTBA League
that's actually about it's a good point. Yeah, that's a
really good division now that I haven't.
Speaker 7 (01:11:05):
Even looked at that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
Come on, really, but it.
Speaker 7 (01:11:09):
Depends on Caleb Boyts a Ben Johnson. Yeah, we got to.
Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
Say absolutely, Adam, thank you so much for joining us.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, Enjoy Game seven of
the NBA Finals, and we'll talk to you next week.
Right out. I've got it too, Thanks Adam. You guys
can follow our NFL insider Adam Kaplan on ex Twitter
at Kaplan NFL. Now, let's check in on Martin Wison.
What's going on, Martin? What's going on? How the Dodgers doing?
(01:11:34):
The Dodgers?
Speaker 9 (01:11:35):
Uh, they call it B two A this generation does.
That's what I mean. Alright, I like that one.
Speaker 7 (01:11:46):
Mary.
Speaker 9 (01:11:48):
It's ugly right now for the Washington Nationals. It didn't
start out that way. It was three nothing in the
third inning and all of a sudden sixth Any Max
Monty Grand Slam, and uh, it's now thirteen to three.
Key k Hernandez looks like he's taking the mound for
the Dodgers. So that goes to show you he's got
a ten run cushion.
Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
He's real good when he's in that position. He might
give up a few, though.
Speaker 9 (01:12:11):
Fifty two first, yeah, exactly, not exactly a four seam heater.
Did he show hal Tany had a triple, so he
had a home run as well. So those still there
getting their money's worth. For speaking of getting your money's worth,
the debate will be all Monday. Did the Phoenix Suns
do just that when they traded Kevin Durant to the
(01:12:34):
Houston Rockets, getting Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks, the tenth pick
in this year's draft back, and a whole bunch of
second round picks down the line. The Game seven of
the NBA Finals by ninety minutes away right now, and
we have a College World Series champion, the Los Angeles
the LSU wrong in ls LSU Tigers be Coastal Carolina
(01:12:55):
five to three in Game two, winning the series two
games to and Coastal Carolina's head coach and first base
coach got ejected arguing balls and strikes on the tenth
pitch of the game, so that one had to heard.
Colts Carolina grounded into a double play to go ahead
and end the college baseball season. In the WNBA, the
Aces beat the Fever Indiana's lost too straight, eighty nine
(01:13:18):
to eighty one. The final score. Asia Wilson has twenty
four points. Fever I mean Ace has had five players
and double figures Caitlin Clark seven for twenty one for
ten from three nineteen points in the loss, the Mystics
beat the Wings ninety one to eighty eight and the
Dream beat the Sky ninety three to eighty.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
Back to you guys, Thank you, Marian. You're listening to
Fox Sports Sunday. Coming up, we're going to test the
cruise knowledge easy as one, two three four. Don't go anywhere.
It's Fox Sports Sunday. I love this song. This is
a jam talking about wedding songs that should be played.
This is a good wedding song for all weddings. Martin,
(01:13:58):
play this at your wedding. My mom knows this song,
you guys. That's how that's how great this song is. Okay,
three six nine, what's up? Everybody? Happy Sunday. You're listening
to Fox Sports Radio. Get low former Hemepro Safety carry Roads.
I am Manti Bilanos and it is time for some
fun easy as one, two, three four where I test
(01:14:19):
the crew's knowledge a lot of sports today. We've got
Martin as a lifeline. Carry needs you. Yes, Mary Shay,
everybody's here, but we're gonna get into it because we
don't have a ton of time, as we like to
do Carrie, always too much to talk about, never enough time.
All right, the guys and gals here don't have to
give me the whole answer. They just have to give
me a piece of the answer. And again, I'm not
(01:14:40):
trying to make this difficult, but it might be I'm
gonna give you over under. I don't know if you're
gonna know the answer to that question. So I'm gonna
say five and a half, five and a half. It
might be a little difficult. And a half maybe yes,
five and a half. All right, So let's go name
one of two schools that have won the most College
World Series titles.
Speaker 3 (01:14:59):
I mean, would it be LSU?
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
I mean, it's easy. Let's go with the guy.
Speaker 9 (01:15:04):
Yeah, I say d I'll say, I'll tell you like
this every time I hear about the college because you
just want it, I'll tell you, all.
Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
Right, show me LSU. That is right. They actually have
eight with today's win, USC has the most twelve twelve
for USC, LSU has eight, Texas has six. Okay, let's
move on here. Name two of the three players in
the NBA that have won four Defensive Player of the
Year awards. Two of the three two of the three. Uh, Rudy,
(01:15:32):
Rudy and Bear history are active today, NBA history.
Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
Yeah, I got you, I got Rudy Gobert and then
Wallace and Ben Wallace.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
All right, show me Rudy Gobert that is correct, Show
me Ben Wallace that is correct. Guys, the other player
you know it to Kenby Mtumba.
Speaker 4 (01:15:50):
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no no.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
You guys knew it. You knew it all right. In baseball,
aside from cal Rawly and Aaron Judge, give me three
of the four players with the most home runs right now.
Aside from cal Rawly, he's the leader. He went today
thirty one and also Aaron Judges next with twenty seven.
Give me three of the next four. Yeah, I'm about
(01:16:17):
to say, go for it.
Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
I know, I know the one you don't too, Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
Last week she got on us for saying Mike Trout.
We did say Mike. He had he had the first,
he had the furthest good. You're right, you're right, that
was good. Otani is what's the guy from Alonzo?
Speaker 3 (01:16:35):
Is Alonso up there?
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
I don't know you want to, I don't know you
want to.
Speaker 9 (01:16:38):
Put I know for a fact, former Detroit Tigers prospect.
A you henne O Suarez.
Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
The fact that you said his name correct? Ohano correct?
Speaker 7 (01:16:49):
I'm here?
Speaker 3 (01:16:49):
Is that all right?
Speaker 9 (01:16:50):
He played for the Reds and he's got a ton
of home runs, and honestly he's plays for bad teams
and always hits a ton of homewn he's.
Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
On the Diamondbacks right now. But you want to put
on yeah, yeah, put you're good. Okay, we got to
give me. He's another one. Yeah, Otani o'hanno. And he
said you want to go Alonzo?
Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
You say Alonzo.
Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
I want to say him, but I'm not sure. I
know he's on the cusp there, No, he's down the
noise around.
Speaker 9 (01:17:15):
I'll tell you this. The Metchics heven home run. Yes
you say Peeluns didn't have one.
Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
He didn't have one of them. Go with your guy.
Speaker 4 (01:17:23):
We need one more. Anybody else got one? Got shay,
I know you're tired. Say look at say his face.
He's so he's a baseball guy, though, come on, say
give us one. I'll good Schwarber leadoff guys. Schwarber and
Otani have the most leadof her runs in like of
all time, of ever.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Say Cayle Swabber, Yes, okay, let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
All right, show me show he Otani. That's right. I
think he hit one today? Did he hit went today?
So he's up at twenty six? Now Ohenniel Swatis has
twenty five, so you are right on the money. And
Kyle Schwarber, show me Kyle Schwarber. Yup, he's got twenty three.
So you guys got all of them. Pete crow Armstrong
is the next one. Yeah, so not but Peter A.
(01:18:01):
Lonso is in the top, like twelve, but not in
the top. All right, all right, guys, NBA question for you,
name four of the five players this is the final
one that have had the most assists in a playoff run.
Now there's players that have done it multiple times, but
give me four of the five names. If you were
to look up, it's for five players that have done
(01:18:24):
it the most in an entire playoff series run, the
most assists. I go Yoka, I go Joke Joker Jokic.
That's a good one. I was not gonna. I was
not thinking him that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:35):
I go Yoka.
Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
I keep putting the combined running down. Let's go go
their guts, guys.
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
I'll go Magic. Ok I go Luca.
Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
No, you know I would not say Luca.
Speaker 4 (01:18:50):
You got modern basketball is quicker, so more.
Speaker 9 (01:18:54):
Tam right, but I'm thinking older basketball. John Stockton led
gotta have more.
Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
So I need four of the five? Are those of five?
Four Magic, Luca Jokic.
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
With Nash being there as well?
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
I don't know. You tell me give me for the five.
Speaker 9 (01:19:08):
I like Jason Kidd and Steve Nash over Luca, both
of them for there, but Steve Nash all right, yeah,
knock Luke out the rest.
Speaker 3 (01:19:15):
The rest should be good there.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
So you said Magic, Jokic, Nash, and Stockton. Is that
what we're going with? Then I want to fifth. I
got a Jason Kidd in there. That is an honorable mention. Okay, sure,
all right? Show me magic, Magic, win's it? Three oh three?
Show me John Stockton, correct, show me see Nash? But
is it Luca? Is it? Yokish?
Speaker 7 (01:19:40):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:19:42):
Do?
Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
Listen to Fox Sports Radio What's up Everybody? Our number
three with my buddy Carrie Rhads on this Sunday, Game
seven of the NBA Finals, tipping off in about an hour.
At the last hour, we finished up easy as one, two, three, four,
where I test the crew's knowledge barely. We did get
(01:20:04):
through it. Marin came in clutch as one of your lifelines.
But the last question was who has had the most
assists in a playoff run like a single playoff run.
It was not Eugenio Elhemio is an MLB player, He
has no assist that I know of. But Magic Johnson is,
(01:20:24):
you know, has the four top records. So you guys
got Magic Johnson. Three oh three is the most ever
for a playoff run. Three hundred and three assists, and
again he's the name top four. But then Rajon Rondo
comes in. You guys did not get Rajon Rondo. He
is two hundred and twenty seven. And then after that,
Magic Johnson comes in again. John Stockton comes in. He's
in the top ten two seventeen, and you guys got
(01:20:45):
John Stockton. Magic Johnson comes in again. Dennis Johnson comes
in with two oh five. You guys got Steve Nash
two oh four, Isaiah Thomas to one, Drew Holliday one
ninety nine, Lebron James one ninety eight. Russell was ninety
eight as well. Tyres Halliburton won ninety seven this playoff
(01:21:08):
run run, so he could catapult himself in a top ten.
What does he need he has right now, so one
ninety seven, if he got ten, it would take him
into the top ten over Dennis Johnson with two oh seven. Yep,
he would, he would. He can do that today, you guys.
(01:21:29):
He can absolutely do that. It's a perfect segue into
Game seven that we're gonna get to all watch in
about an hour. Very excited. Last week you dismissed. You
don't like the word dismissed, but you did. You dismissed
the Pacers. You didn't think they could pull it off,
(01:21:50):
going back to okaysee, you thought it's gonna be over.
They're gonna okay, see will win this and six. And
I was just surprised because you have been so high
on the Pacers for so long, and many people were,
including me, I like jumped late on this bandwagon to
believe that the Pacers could get this far. I did
not believe scoring by committee was gonna be successful in
(01:22:11):
the long term of the playoff run. They've proved me
wrong because Tyrus Haliburn has been so fun to watch,
Pascal Siaga, TJ McConnell, I want his jersey. Can I
get his jersey, Like, what am I doing? He's been
so great and listen, okay, see has been super fun
to watch as well. They have been very exciting. But
(01:22:31):
the big surprise year has been the Pacers, right.
Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
Yeah, I have to go for it. No.
Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
I the game in game five and okac that they won.
I didn't watch you it live and I went back
to watch it. And what I told you last week
was even if the Pacers lose, it matters how they lose.
And when I finished watching that game, already knowing that
the Pacers lost, I was like, how did they lose?
I want to go see this. Pacers did not play well.
(01:22:58):
It was sloppy, it was messy, and they made a
bit of a comeback and thunderstill won. And then after
I was like, oh, Pacers absolutely are going to win
Game six. They walked away from this not feeling down
on themselves. That's what I thought, because of how sloppy
and gross they played to start the game, that they
still in the end were in it. Yeah it was
(01:23:19):
a double digit, you know win, but it didn't tell
the story. They made a run, Yeah they made a run.
Speaker 4 (01:23:24):
Yeah, No, I mean Game seven, Yeah, I mean all
the chatter outside of real basketball fans and talking about
you know, the ratings and all that stuff. Nobody cares.
No real basketball enthusiasts are really enjoying this series, and
I know we are. And I know when you get
(01:23:45):
into a one game scenario, right, it just really gives
you that, like you have no margin for era. Everything's
going to be tightly contested. I mean, people are going
to be fighting for loose balls. Like it's when you
look at that, I mean, you talk about the NBA
as a whole, that's a product what we talked about
this year, like people not playing hard, or people kind
(01:24:06):
of taking it for granted and too many threes and
all those things. That's not the case in this series
at all. It's been fundamental basketball. It's been tough basketball. Obviously,
you're at this level competing for a championship, right, so
all the all the marbles are on the table and
nothing's really being no stones being left unturned. And you
can tell by Washington, like the coaches are going to
(01:24:27):
every possible matchup, every possible scenario, every possible thing they
can to help their team win. We're saying it all.
I mean, I know I've talked about it. We've talked
about it. Rick Carlisle has been the ace, you know,
the ace and the hole in this series. But I
want to also give Mark dayton As some credit. Yeah,
he's been able to you know, he made he made
an adjustment that we didn't like in Game one where
(01:24:47):
he took out Hartenstein and put in Casey Wallace. He
made the shift back to Hartenstein back in the in
the in the starting lineup in Game four turned the
series back. They won those two games. They won those games,
got back in the series, and now we're gonna see
who's gonna make the best decision in Game seven. Because
game seven, anything can happen. I think the coach that's
(01:25:07):
going to be more flexible in what they do in
this approach will be the team that wins the series.
Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
Yeah, don't give me statistics for a Game seven. I
don't care, Martin. I don't care if the Thunder haven't
lost two games in a row.
Speaker 9 (01:25:18):
Right, Well, do you care that the Thunder have their
buses painted well under them?
Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Martin? I was about to bring you up for this
here I am no. I understand. Okay, Martin found a
great video.
Speaker 9 (01:25:34):
It's going everywhere You're going to see him up, I
was Adam Schefter just retweeted it. So now we have
NBA reporting done by somebody named mister Milkman seven oh
two who recorded a video of the Thunder Open Top
Championship buses fully painted somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
I'm not sure where they are.
Speaker 9 (01:25:54):
Maybe they at least like a garage somewhere, a garage support.
Speaker 3 (01:25:57):
I don't think.
Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
I'm not saying that they're in the arena.
Speaker 9 (01:25:59):
However, we're Carlisle saw the video, and so you have
Milkman seven oh two and Curly Frow now tweeting, and
these are the people getting the credit for breaking this
news that Ramona show where and Adam Schefter and now
retweeting and what Carlisle saw and said, that's all I'm
thinking about right now after we watch that video.
Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
Yes, so to sum up in case, because I interrupted
Martin because I was like, Mario, I was gonna tell
you what for this, but you got excited, And yes,
this is a bad precedent, this is a bad thing
to show. But there is video. You can find it
now really everywhere on ex Twitter, but Rachel Nicol specifically,
(01:26:40):
which Martin sent us. So thanks Martin, there is video
of buses for the thunder where it already has painted.
They already painted on them champions like this is like
for the parade. This is what it looks like. These
it looks like double decker buses ready for the parade,
and it says, okay, see champions on it twenty twenty five.
(01:27:04):
You know what that means, Moscy that Ricky, I don't.
I don't know if this is really already set up?
How did you let anyone take video of this? Idiots? Idious?
Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
It's not set up, guys, listen in this in this scenario,
it's a one game situation.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
There's t shirts and hats printed up for both sides.
That's different, though, that is because you're selling that the
minute you can. You're not gonna sell this bus. You
could have painted this bus tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
I bet you that's a bus in Indiana that has
the same thing. It just hasn't been captured. Just so
you guys understand, this is something that's not this is
this is not a conspiracy.
Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
This it doesn't it's any if they win.
Speaker 3 (01:27:54):
Do I need do I need to be the adult
in the room again?
Speaker 7 (01:27:57):
Here?
Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
No, you're not the adult in.
Speaker 4 (01:27:58):
The adult in the room. There is no conspiracy. The
hats to your conspiracy the trophy.
Speaker 3 (01:28:05):
How can the engraving of the chop.
Speaker 2 (01:28:11):
He's he's on the payro ten minutes after the interesting
plans twice if you need it saving, Yes, you guys
can see it. But there's a conspiracy. You don't do
this and you don't let someone tape it. That that's
the conspiracy. How did they get leaked because you let
(01:28:32):
someone tape it. I don't understand. This is bad. This
is bad. So Rick Carlisle in his pressor pregame presser
Rachel Nichol, Nichols has that he saw this video already
that's gone viral and that's what he's thinking about right now.
Speaker 3 (01:28:48):
That's crazy, y'all.
Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
Motivation, talk about motivation, because you know what, I don't
think the Pacers have a bus like this already. I don't.
I think there are shirts because because they're going to
sell that, because after the game they're going to put
that on. Yes, they're not having a parade today at
ten pm. They're doing a parade in a day or two.
So I don't I don't believe that the Pacers already
(01:29:13):
have painted their bus, and the fact that they have
painted their bus. I can't you, guys, you're going to
a Game seven in the NBA Finals. You went to
a Game seven against the Denver Nuggets. You are not you.
You have not been in cruise control. No to do this,
it seems oh hasty, it's a little hasty. Have a cocktail.
(01:29:34):
What if I told you me? No, Well, I've told
you I have a cocktail. Have a cocktail. When you're
gonna make a decision like this, think about.
Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
It, you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
Should we paint this right now? Maybe we should wait
till the game's over.
Speaker 4 (01:29:44):
Well, you know what, maybe maybe that that that coat
of paint what's about to be dry or go extinct?
That that actual color. This is not like a normal
color either. It's a color you have to go get,
and I'm sure color.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
You have to go get. It's white. I'm looking at it.
Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
I thought it was blue.
Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
I mean the buses. No, I think this bus was
already probably theirs.
Speaker 3 (01:30:04):
No, that's what I was thinking.
Speaker 2 (01:30:06):
That's and then they're putting a champion. I gotta see
it again, you gotta see I think these are just
their buses. And then they have made the champion on
the side. The twenty twenty five. Let me make this
bigger for you. I'm making you watch this in the
size of a tiny, tiny little squear just quickly.
Speaker 9 (01:30:25):
Why would they have double decker bushes but no tops
just sitting around? I think that they probably recently purchased
these buses. Shut up, I'm shutting Hollywood celebrity tow.
Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
It does look like that. It does look like you.
Speaker 9 (01:30:39):
Think they just they just taking top down tours of Okay,
see all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
I don't think so, maybe, I mean, why not? Okay, fine, fine,
you're right, true, I don't know what they do. Yes, now,
now we're right. You're right.
Speaker 3 (01:30:53):
Made a whole little real argument.
Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
Regardless, Guys, this to me is not comparable to like
shirts and hats already being made. I don't think this
is the same. I can't. And maybe maybe this is
something that is done. And what's the first time we're
watching this? Right? But how did you let somebody tape this?
How did you let it go on social media? You guys,
come on, this is bad. And now if you lose,
(01:31:18):
no one's gonna let you live this down. No, nobody's
gonna let you live this down. Nobody was gonna let
you live it down because you were expected to win
in five games in a sweep, a gentleman's sweep, like
everybody was into anticipating an easy route for you to
get to the finals, especially when you handle the Grizzlies
so easily. You have not been on cruise control. This
(01:31:39):
is bad. I don't know what's gonna happen, but I
will tell you. I think the marketing for the playoffs,
or specifically the NBA Finals carry has been so bad,
like the NBA has dropped the ball, and I understand
that people maybe are not watching because ESPN sucks. I'm sorry,
it does. It does, It really does. And stephen A
(01:31:59):
you like I don't, you're watching solitaire. I don't want
to listen to what you have to say because it
means nothing. You're not even watching the game, so I
can't take what you say seriously. Aside from looking at
how cute Malika Andrews looks in her outfits, like what
am I watching ESPN for? Honestly, I think that's part
of the problem with the marketing and why people aren't watching.
(01:32:22):
It's not just two small markets. It's people don't like
ESPN and people don't like Steven a and people don't
like Kendrick Perkins and people don't like whatever, And so
why did the NBA do Carrie a minute? We had
the NBA Finals set up? How did I not get
a commercial that was like foul merchant versus overrated? Who wins?
How did I get? How did I not get that commercial?
Speaker 4 (01:32:42):
It's been bad and I think that's why. Obviously NBC
is back right after this. Yes, it will be, it'll
be a different group of people. And obviously take us
back to our heyday when the NBA Finals.
Speaker 2 (01:32:55):
Was was crazy. Huh.
Speaker 4 (01:32:57):
It was everything the marketing, the advertised and I guess
we also got winners that we could root for Heavy
sure and root against Heavy right Like I think that
part of it was the thing as well. This final
has been more of a coming out party for both teams,
even though okay, see what's the best team all year?
(01:33:18):
I mean like in this situation, like a chance to
win it. It's it's a different thing. There's no like
nostal joy history with the way ESBN.
Speaker 2 (01:33:26):
Does things, there is And I know people were upset,
and I agree. Where were the floor dcals telling me
that it's the NBA Finals and they said it was slippery.
This is not okay, stop it. You could have found
something that's not slippery. Don't lie to me. You ain't
gotta light a kick it. You could have done this,
but you dropped the ball. There's been no advertise. Give
me a billboard. I understand. I'm in La. Give me
(01:33:46):
a billboard. Because people love to hate. Watch exactly what
do we do when you have missed opportunity?
Speaker 3 (01:33:52):
You get to use both of all sens.
Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
You get to use. Because we saw Shay Gildas Alexander
be hated not by everybody, but be hated because you know,
goes for the foul. Then the story about mister overrated
with Tyrese Haliburton, like it was all there. And then
Tyrese Haliburton had game winners already leading up to the finals,
like there were opportunities for you to market and make
it be a topic of conversation, like we talked about
(01:34:17):
this with Adam Kaplan. Super Bowl comes around the week
of the Super Bowl. I can't stop seeing Super Bowl advertisements.
And even if you don't care who's in the super Bowl,
at least they're telling me as the Super Bowl. I
don't care about UFC fighters or boxing. I know every
single time there's a fight because I see an advertisement
for it. Where is the advertisement in the marketing?
Speaker 4 (01:34:38):
It makes no sense. I mean, these are the most
visible athletes in the world. I mean, obviously soccer is
a big thing now, but I mean in America for sure,
Like you can see them like they're good looking guys,
and you can market them in a way touly like
it's it's no reason that it should be a lack
of advertisement when it comes to the NBA Finals, Like,
(01:35:00):
nobody's getting together. We're not even going to watch this
after We're just going hard to watching the game.
Speaker 2 (01:35:06):
That Carrie Corona is one of the least tasty beers
in the world. But when I'm outside at the beach,
Son is in my face Corona. I'm like, give me
a Corona. Why because they market it because they tell
me I want it. And it's silly, but that matters,
you know what I'm saying, Patron not good tequila. At
(01:35:27):
least it tastes like tequila. You know, I like my tequila.
It tastes like tequila, which is why I don't like
cosam Egos because it doesn't taste like tequila. But Patrona
is marketed so well where when I go somewhere and
I ask for a specific tequila and they don't have it,
they'll be like, but we have patron And then my
my dumb person I was can I say I was
gonna say about r my idiotself, Yeah, I'll take patron
(01:35:48):
Why because you've advertised it to the point where it's like, okay, sure,
I don't get it.
Speaker 3 (01:35:54):
I don't know either.
Speaker 4 (01:35:55):
And again, like you said, I mean Adam Silva has
no really he's done a good job with the NBA
and trying to get it back on track, but they
dropped the ball here. I mean the fact that, again,
if you're not a basketball purist or an enthusiast, you're
not watching it because there's nothing bringing you in. There's
no trailer, there's no I need to watch them because
(01:36:17):
I hate him. I need to watch them because I
love him, Like I don't think anybody loves or hate
anything about any of these things. We're just watching good basketball,
and I think that's part of the reason. Think about that.
Speaker 2 (01:36:27):
That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:36:28):
If you watched the old school Bulls when I was
a bull fan, like either you're a Jordan fan or
lose and you will watch it because of either one
of those things.
Speaker 3 (01:36:38):
Right, that's not the case.
Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
But you could have driven that. You could have driven
hate watching in this situation for whatever reason. Now, okay,
even shake Gil just Alexander fine, put it aside. Lou Dirt.
Lou Dirt gets a lot criticism because he's gonna take
your ankle out if he can.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Yeah, he will, he will, No, and he's.
Speaker 2 (01:36:54):
Gonna go after Tyres Slivern's cast.
Speaker 3 (01:36:56):
I'm scared.
Speaker 2 (01:36:56):
Game seven. He's heard somebody, he's hurting somebody. Look alive,
Look alive. It's but there were so many where you
could have had people at least tune in because you
gave them one storyline that was a bit of like,
you know what, Yeah, I don't want to see okay,
see win. They've just they've had too much fun all year.
Why why do they get to win already? Like they
they really really missed an opportunity. Yeah, no, it's because
(01:37:21):
it's Game seven. Is here so ober?
Speaker 4 (01:37:22):
Like even game seven, like even they had three days
in between.
Speaker 2 (01:37:28):
They could have marketed. They could have put a billboard
on anything. Any Game seven, Game seven.
Speaker 3 (01:37:33):
I don't think anybody knows, but us and the people
listening right now.
Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
The two greatest words in the sports, at least in June.
Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
Game seven of the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
Finals, and they did not deliver.
Speaker 3 (01:37:44):
We're watching Steven they Smith in the.
Speaker 2 (01:37:45):
White suits and I could not care less, could not.
They had a real opportunity and it drop the ball.
They really just dropped the ball. Speaking of dropping the ball,
Aaron Judge did drop the ball in the World Series.
Speaker 3 (01:37:59):
But oh my god, no, you did not.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
Just se well, it's transitioning here, Carrie. There's a reason
I'm not just poking fun at your team here. Yeah.
Is Aaron Judge gonna be the al MVP? I don't know.
We're gonna dive into that next. Don't go anywhere. It's
Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:38:17):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 12 (01:38:30):
What's up, everybody, Hey, Happy Sunday. Happy Game seven of
the NBA Finals tipping off very soon.
Speaker 2 (01:38:41):
Get ready, We're getting ready married one. Let's check in
over the newsdesk with Martin Wises so you could give
us a quick update. So what's going on. That's right, Monty.
Speaker 9 (01:38:51):
We are about thirty minutes away from the greatest two
words in sports. Game seven, Oklahoma City and Indiana. This
being played in okac Obviously, the Pacers with a big
Game six win to force this Game seven. We will
see how it goes. Thirty minutes away from tip off,
the Phoenix Suns have agreed to a blockbuster trade, sending
(01:39:13):
fifteen times All star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets will get Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks, the tenth
pick in this year's draft, and five first round picks.
I'm sorry, five second round picks. That's a big difference
my second round picks and in a few upcoming years.
Sources told ESBN the College World Series over LSU the champion.
(01:39:33):
Congratulations to the Tigers. They win the series two games
to none. Win Game two five to three. Coastal Carolina
grounded into a double play with the tying run on
base in the I'm sorry to tying run at the
plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. Coastal Carolina's
head coach and first base coach were arguing balls and
strikes on the tenth pitch of the game got sent
(01:39:55):
to the locker room early, the clubhouse early, like.
Speaker 2 (01:39:59):
It's an elimination game. Guys, come on, reps, what are
we doing? What are we doing? You're gonna get you
should be fired a bit much.
Speaker 3 (01:40:06):
Up much much.
Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
It has a lot much, I mean, especially in a
tightly can tested game. This, I mean, it was just
anyway ridiculous, ridiculous.
Speaker 9 (01:40:15):
The Dodgers beat the Nationals now Keik Hernandez came in,
gave up a few runs, but it was thirteen to
seven the final score of that game. Ended up having
to get a pitcher come out of the bullpen said
all right, K, thanks for thanks to the effort there.
Padres appreciate.
Speaker 2 (01:40:30):
Beat the Royals three to two.
Speaker 9 (01:40:32):
Astros eight to seven over the Angels, Guardians blank the
A's three nothing. Giants beat the Red Sox twice in
the last two days nine to five, Rockies double up
the Diamondbacks four to two.
Speaker 2 (01:40:45):
Man and there's.
Speaker 9 (01:40:45):
Fourteen Cup six Cubs struggling recently, that's lost like.
Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
I know, and they started hot. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:40:54):
Reds beat the Cardinals four to one, Brewers nine to
eight over the Twins, Marlins five to three over the
Braves brave just put Chrisale on the fifteen day il
with fractured left ribcage White Sox with four to win
over the Blue Jays, Pirates beat the Rangers eight to three,
Tigers over Rays nine to three, Yankees four to two
over the Orioles. And right now we are looking at
(01:41:14):
Kyle Schwarber, who is what fourth in Major League Baseball
and home runs. You know that if you were listening
earlier today he got none yet, but it is nothing
scoreless on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, Mets Phillies, top of
the Second League.
Speaker 2 (01:41:28):
Back to you guys, Thank you Martin. Enjoy the rest
of your Sunday, Enjoy Game seven. We appreciate you. Going
into this MLB season, Carrie and I even thinking for
the next couple of years, I was like, all right, well,
Aaron Judge is going to be the AL MVP for
the next couple of years. Johill Tony is going to
be the National League MVP for the next couple of years.
(01:41:49):
I just was like, it is their award to, you know,
be taken away from and already in the American League.
Cal Rawly, who plays for the Seattle Mariners, a switch
hitter today, he won't stop hitting home runs. Today he
hit another one. He's at thirty one, thirty one, the
(01:42:09):
first switch hitter to hit thirty home runs before the
All Star Break a couple of weeks away, fastest player
to thirty home runs in only seventy five games since
Barry Bonds and Louis Gonzalez in two thousand and one.
He and Ken Griffy Junior are the only two Mariners
players ever to hit thirty home runs before the All
(01:42:31):
Star Break. Also, how about this, It is his third
consecutive season with thirty home runs, except last year he
only did thirty four for the whole year. So now
he's at thirty one. Sho Hao Tani is not having
the spectacular season that he maybe did last year. To start,
you can maybe say the same thing for Aaron Judge, right,
(01:42:52):
But on the national league side, I really don't think
right now anyone is challenging Sho Hao Toni. And it
adds to the fact that obviously Shoeo Tani is now pitching, right,
so we're talking so much about it. Cal Ray is
challenging already. Aaron Judge, Ah, how do you feel about that?
Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
I'm gonna say, pump your breaks. Pump your breaks, my friend.
I mean, yes, this is impressive. Don't get me wrong.
Thirty one home runs is ridiculous at this point. But
we got a whole we got another half of a
season left to go. And when you look at these
two teams, the Mariners, they're playing five hundred baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:43:29):
They're right, they're in the mix, they're they're they're there.
But the Yankees are.
Speaker 4 (01:43:33):
Going to be in high pressure situations, high pressure games,
games that are gonna matter down the stretch where if
Aaron comes through and plays that the Rady's playing that
right now. But he's got twenty eight home runs is
not far off. I think it's right there. He's going
to win the MVP because of that situation. In my
mind right not to. I'm not balking that cal Raley's
(01:43:53):
what he's doing. This is amazing, but he's not going
to overthrow Aaron Judge unless the Mariners win more. And
that's the I think that's the point.
Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
So you think it's gonna come down to because not
only does he have the most home runs and yes
we're approaching, we're approaching the halfway points a lot, he
also has the second most run runs bad at in Yeah,
he's got sixty six swat is that like if if
you you asked me who's challenging, maybe show Hetani in
the American League, probably Ohanniel swatt Is. But it's because
(01:44:24):
he's obviously like the pitching thing for Otani, it just
adds to it, right, right, So it's like the challenges
it's gonna be difficult with With Aaron Judge, you have
a guy who's playing a field position and hitting the
ball and hitting the ball for a team that like
is up and down. Yankees can be up and down.
They can be a bet. So you think at the end,
(01:44:45):
let's say we're talking about this in a few months
and Cal Ray and Aaron Judges numbers are interchangeable, Like
they're off by one run, one home run, but the
Yankees have the better wreck by a couple of games. Okay,
you're saying it's like close, and it's close. Did you
(01:45:08):
give it to Do you give it to Aaron Judge
because he's a Yankee?
Speaker 4 (01:45:11):
No, No, you're gonna give the Aaron Judge because he's
also a Golden Glove outfielder as well.
Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
So don't, don't, don't forget that part of it.
Speaker 4 (01:45:18):
Great defensive player makes great catches in the outfield except
for the World Series and.
Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
Let me.
Speaker 3 (01:45:27):
And he's throwing people out from.
Speaker 4 (01:45:30):
Center field at the like he's gonna make other big
plays outside of his his ops and it's I mean,
you know, it's everything about Aaron.
Speaker 3 (01:45:39):
Judge is a juggernaut.
Speaker 4 (01:45:40):
So at the end of the day, for cale Raley
to win that, I mean, these numbers are going to
have to continue, but he's going to have to possibly
win the Gold Glove that catcher as well. And so
we don't I don't know how good he is that
at at the defensive part of the game. It's not
just about offensive numbers, people, it's the whole, the whole,
the whole shebang. So I want to see what Kyl
does outside of the home runs.
Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
I mean, it's true because Judge, his batting average has
been amazing still and it's dipped and he's still one
of the best ones. It's dipped. Yet he's three sixty
seven or something like. It's something ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (01:46:14):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:46:14):
Also on base percentage, slugging percentage, I hate ops and
war I hate those numbers. But he he is, you know,
leading still in that is just impressive what cal Rawley
is doing. He's bringing attention to the Mariners. And when
your name is being put up there with Barry Bonds
and like Ken Griffy Junior, all of a sudden, people
(01:46:34):
start talking and MVP sometimes it is a bit of
a popularity contest, right And so like him already being
discussed now is why I say he's already challenging, because
there is nobody in the National League that is being
talked about like this.
Speaker 4 (01:46:50):
Well I loved them to keep doing it. So Aaron
Judge gets the memo uh huh and just goes on
one of his storyts. So keep doing it, MOUSSEI just
say it really loud, say cal Rally is going to win.
Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
The MVP right now, right now, And so Aaron cal
Rawle's maybe gonna win because I maybe maybe, I don't know.
I'm just saying, Aaron Judge, you hear this, Aaron Judge, Aaron.
I love Aaron Judge. I'm going, you know, all rise,
all rise all the time. I haven't here I have
an Aaron Judger. I love him. I love him, all rise,
all rise. I'm looking forward to what happens just because
(01:47:23):
I like what you said, the challenge. There are players
who live up to a challenge, and I hope Aaron
Judge does and he's paying attention, like, oh this guy
is he does want to come for this absolutely, And
I'm not against the challenge.
Speaker 3 (01:47:37):
You just you just look at you.
Speaker 4 (01:47:39):
It's like you're outside run running back people houses, throwing eggs.
You're trying to irritate people.
Speaker 2 (01:47:43):
You're trying to trying to irritate you. You're trying to
make people.
Speaker 4 (01:47:46):
Come outside to salute you and see you and kind
of find you. That's what Aaron Judge is going to do.
And he's going to come out, He's going to salute you,
and he's going to go on one of those runs
where he hits a home run every game.
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
You know how it goes, You know how it goes.
You're right, how are you on like envy? Like what
what if? It's like, oh, Aaron Judge is great, but
John Carlos stant is also great, like later in the season, right,
and then it's Cal Rawly is like actually like more
valuable to the Mariners. It's in his eyes, he's not
(01:48:16):
liking this. Stop yet. We're not there yet, but fine,
stop it.
Speaker 7 (01:48:25):
You know, what.
Speaker 2 (01:48:25):
Let's get into it. Let's do a little do it
all right?
Speaker 7 (01:48:29):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (01:48:30):
Let's get into it with carry on or off. I'm
gonna presents some situations, some topics to carry and he's
gonna basically tell me whether he's on board with them
or not. Carrie, are you on or off? Quick trips
to Vegas? Let's start there.
Speaker 3 (01:48:47):
I am so off that. Listen.
Speaker 4 (01:48:52):
I am the resident old guy in the building, grandpa,
and anything that gets me off the couch in a
quick instant, it would be something I'm against. Yeah, And
so going to Vegas on the seven hour journey there
and back to go to a pool party kind of
makes my head Hut.
Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
I didn't see how Shae was looking like, so, yeah,
and you saw.
Speaker 3 (01:49:12):
The youngest guy well besides Mary.
Speaker 2 (01:49:15):
Shae, Shae's yeah, one of the young you know, dead
to the world.
Speaker 3 (01:49:18):
I don't want that. I need stuff. I need energy
to get about my day.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
So I'm off that. So back during your twenties, would
you have done it?
Speaker 4 (01:49:27):
I only went to I probably went to Vegas to
two times I can count to this point in my Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
Yeah, I'm not I'm not like a wild No, no, no,
you would have died with Shaye on Night one, you
would have died absolutely. Shane was there longer than I was.
I was there for about seven hours. So all right, Carrie,
are you on or off the idea that NBA players
in today's game have a chance to be better than
players in the past because of their ability to shoot
(01:49:56):
the balloo?
Speaker 3 (01:49:58):
You know, I'm a basketball period.
Speaker 4 (01:49:59):
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna say I'm off that you're
off that. I think the demand on shooting is a
little bit more prominent now. The demand doesn't mean that
they couldn't shoot out. I mean there's so many shooters
from the past that you wouldn't even think about right now.
But you know about him, Chris Mullen and yeah, I
mean de Ray Allen's and the Larry Birds, and I
(01:50:22):
mean just so many shooters at that time. If they
were asked to do what the game is asking the
players to do now, they can shoot just as well.
Speaker 2 (01:50:31):
Interesting. So this comes on the heels of Scotty Pippens
comments with ESPN where he talked that he thinks Jalen
Williams could be a better two than him, and that's
what people fixiated on that one liner that he said,
but what he was actually saying, it's because of the
ability to shoot. That was his entire point in saying that.
But I like how you broke it down.
Speaker 4 (01:50:52):
And I think the thing about Scotty is he wasn't
a pure shooter, right, He did everything really really well,
but he wasn't a great shooter. And I think and
that can be Errison, that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (01:51:00):
And and also he got better like Scotty Pippin got better.
And so yeah, absolutely absolutely, Carrie. Are you on or
off the NFL networks bold prediction that Daniel Jones will
win Comeback Player of the Year.
Speaker 4 (01:51:15):
Man, I'm so off that Press that button quick, Mary,
Daniel Jones. I've been on, I've been to Daniel Jones.
I guess non supporter, not not a hater, non supporter.
For a while, I thought that he had one good
year in New York and when Brian dayball came in.
(01:51:36):
But I think you fell back down to the meeting,
which for him wasn't that high. I do think that
he may play some play some this year and he's
in Tennessee or is it?
Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
Yeah, yeah, you got it, you just so he may
have a.
Speaker 4 (01:51:51):
Chance to play with Anthony Richardson. But Anthony Richardson Steeles
should be the guy there.
Speaker 2 (01:51:55):
Okay, all right, uh you're you're a musical artist, Carrie,
so you on her off artists bringing someone up on
stage during their concert for like a special.
Speaker 4 (01:52:04):
Moment, only if it's Chris Brown. So other than that,
I'm off. I know you were, I know you were,
I saw, I saw that. You know what's funny is
the Janet.
Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Jack Jenny's Shae for a hot second, not liking that.
Speaker 4 (01:52:21):
Yeah, Jennet Jackson did that for a while, which was
the same similar thing that Chris is doing. And obviously
as a guy, you're like, oh, that's kind of cool,
but when you do it too much, it takes away
from the performance. We're there for that, not for a
peep show type thing.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
Jennet Jackson did it classier exactly, Yes, Chris Brown, that's
just kind of creepy.
Speaker 11 (01:52:42):
It is.
Speaker 2 (01:52:42):
And the most recent video was tying People Up. You
can't be classic and tie people up. Yes, you can disagree,
Chris Brown. This keeps bringing up a girl and like
laying her out on a keep.
Speaker 7 (01:52:58):
I've seen the one.
Speaker 2 (01:53:00):
The one she had a boyfriend was Kis Oh, yes,
like Usher all over with Palmer.
Speaker 3 (01:53:08):
That also that one, Yeah, that's the one man. Usher's
ridiculous US shirt.
Speaker 2 (01:53:12):
Was a bit ridiculous. But Chris Brown, I'm like, stop
bringing out this bed and bringing this girl out here. No, no,
it is a straight up love seat, so you won't
be doing that.
Speaker 3 (01:53:22):
No, I'm off that.
Speaker 4 (01:53:25):
I'm going I'm going to the show to hear Celine
Dion's pipes, not watch.
Speaker 2 (01:53:31):
I mean, you know what I mean, you know, I get.
Speaker 7 (01:53:35):
This one.
Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
I think you should do it. Yes, you man, you
would get a lot, you would get a lot of love,
You get a lot of people. Girls will get real
excited if you pull them up on stage. Carry my god, Carrie.
I mean, I'll think about it because you guys are
telling me, but absolutely absolutely you know on the other
side of this, Carrie, I I understand money speaks, I
(01:53:59):
get it, I understand, but there are some things that
money to me does not matter, and we're gonna dive
into that. This is Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Sunday.

whole thing, Carrie. So this week a big sale in
sports happened. A big sale, Genie Boss. The Bus family
(01:55:08):
decided to sell the Lakers for ten billion dollars billion
dollars exact. And that sounds like a number that I'm
gonna throw up, right, Like, I can't understand that, right.
But what I can't understand even more besides the astronomical
amount that is ten billion dollars, is the decision to
(01:55:30):
sell the Lakers. There's just some things where like I
don't think money can buy right, And I'm not trying
to talk smack, but like you didn't sell the Portland Trailblazers.
You didn't sell the Washington Nationals. You didn't. You sold
(01:55:51):
the loss Angelus Lakers. I hate the Lakers and I
would have never sold them. Wow, for ten ten bees,
you wand have sold the Lakers.
Speaker 11 (01:56:02):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
It's it's beyond that. It's beyond it's you have let
go of a few. There are very few sports franchises
that go beyond the sport that are an international brand. Yep,
and you I get it, ten billion dollars, but you
sold the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Yeah, it's it's been.
Speaker 4 (01:56:25):
I don't know if it's a great job though, so
like the owner of it, yes, obviously you want to
keep that in your back pocket. But I don't think
it's a great job. You don't get I mean, you
don't get credit for it. Really you're expected to do
it right. So that becomes old, that becomes a burden,
a burden, and so when the number, the right number
(01:56:45):
comes across, it's kind of hard to turn it down.
That's what That's where I would go with it. I
hear exactly what you're saying. But the burden that being
the name of that franchise has been for Genie Buss.
She didn't ask, well, she did ask you she did it,
but I'm saying she didn't. She wasn't there in the
in the beginning of I'm gonna buy an NBA team,
(01:57:07):
and this is you're going to have to run it.
That wasn't the plan. The plan was once she got
attached to it, and she really became really good at it.
Like I'm going to give it to her, She's the
one that's capable of doing it. But like it's something
that I'm sure becomes heavy for her and nobody else
can really do it in the family, right, So it's
(01:57:27):
a burden.
Speaker 2 (01:57:28):
It is, And I will say, like I do think
it's a lot for somebody to take on, you know,
when her father passed away. I don't think she made
the right decisions in hiring her quote unquote friends like
the Rambises to do anything because her father put the
best people in front of him to do the job.
He just are the best people, for sure, And I
feel like that's maybe where she didn't make the right
(01:57:51):
decisions early on for the Lakers. But you could have
she could have turned that around, you could have. I
just can't believe. I cannot believe you sold the Lakers,
like you're never We're not going to see family's own
teams anymore. This is it's becoming less and less. Now
it's just like head funch guys and CEOs and a
(01:58:13):
group of billionaires and like you you could have the Lakers.
You sold the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (01:58:19):
I get it, and it's I'm sure she has some
of that sentiment as well. But she'll be she'll be
okay when that check counts.
Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
Oh yeah, but wasn't she already okay? I mean, there's
no way she wasn't okay.
Speaker 3 (01:58:31):
Oh she was okay. She's doing way way better than okay.
Speaker 2 (01:58:35):
Now, but no, no what And now you don't own
the Lakers, and now you are, you are, you will
be a footnote.
Speaker 4 (01:58:44):
In the I don't think I think they'll always be
associated with them, though, you know.
Speaker 7 (01:58:48):
What I mean?
Speaker 2 (01:58:49):
Her her father will, her father will, but not her
and the kids. I just cannot believe it. I just
cannot believe it. All Right, who wins tonight? Game seven
NBA Finals starting soon in about ten minutes. I want
the Pacers to win, but you want the Paces. But
I'm gonna say okay, See you're gonna say okay, see
and you say, okay, see by a large margin. You
say what, Yeah, They'll win by ten, by ten, y'all.
(01:59:11):
Tyre's Halliburn is gonna win the game, is gonna hit
the game winning shots, win this in seven. Tyre's Halliburn
not overrated, right? I hope so too. It's Fox Sports Sunday,
