Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh right, Arnie's not
feeling well. I didn't know this was possible for you. Hurt, dude,
I am playing hurt. But what are you so excited
about it? We have no more football? What are you
all pumped up about? Well, first of all that I
made it. Secondly, I love the offseason. Oh no, come on,
(00:25):
you look? Are you taking shot to me already? I
didn't even say. I told pike A before the show.
I'm a little under the weather that this flu thing
going on. But I'm here for the show. I'm ready
to roll, and I'm playing the crying effect I'm taking
for a multiple other reasons. Can we can we share
this story just real quick? My? We we have to
(00:46):
share that, just just because we love Arnie so much.
Eric Roberts and Bobo, we've been in touch. I had
a flight that got delayed, so I was cutting it
close after watching the Mighty Sooner softball team sweep this weekend.
So I let the guy no, hey, I'll be in
plenty of time. Well, I had a couple of issues
and h so they gave Arnie heads up? What do
(01:07):
you say, hey, Artie? Heads up? So Arnie. Arnie has
this thing and everybody does it with him. He causes
Mick fly. He calls everybody Mick fly. So you called
him Mick Fly back. I get on the zephort, I
hit the button. Hey Arnie, just the heads up, you
might have to do the first segment by yourself. I said, no,
I said, hey, mc fly, just the heads up, you
(01:28):
might have to do the first segment by yourself because
he's running late. All I hear is, who are you
talking about talking to me? Are you talking to me?
I literally go hold up? Else am I talking to?
And who the can I be talking about paying attention
to anything you say to me? Ever, even during the show?
(01:49):
So why am I paying attention? Now? Okay, remember you
said that? Remember you said that. That is let's see
as you might get cut on thee again for the
rest say that. He's like, you may have to do
the show. That's not what I said to do this show.
I'm like, you know, I can see I got a
witness right here. What I said, hey McFly, you might
(02:12):
have to do the show by yourself because he's running late.
That's exactly what I said. Your next statement was, who
are you talking about? Are you talking to me? Literally,
that's talk. I have to hit a button to talk
to you. Like. It's not like I can just randomly
talk and you hear me. I have to do something
so you can hear me. Arnie. I'm gonna put a
(02:34):
camera in my studio so you guys can see what
I go through every weekend, every week and y'all can
see how much of a I don't. I can't even
say it because I'm gonna watch exactly talk to this guy.
I am here, though, to defend Arnie. Shocking, right, I know,
(02:54):
shocking what he's playing hurt. He's not a hundred percent now.
I still think in the mortal words of Jason Smith's
troll Game a couple of months ago, the flu is overrated.
I tend to disagree. You do you have to have
a fever to have a was I don't have a fever,
but I'm a little weak. My body is all achy
and stuff. Well that's just age, man, You're just we
(03:19):
come to be alive and welcome to the Fox Sports
Radio Studios, brought to you by Geico. Fifteen minutes could
save you fift or more on car insurance. Visit guy
dot com for a free rate quote. Yes, it was
our first Sunday without football, and you know what I
spent the afternoon doing on my flight back from beautiful
scenic Phoenix, Arizona. Wow, look at you. I know right,
(03:40):
I spent it watching the super Bowl, which was just
and I'm pretty sure it just wrapped up on I
believe it was the NFL network that I was watching,
and I just I wanted to kind of put a
little bow tie, if you will, on the super Bowl
because we were not on during this time slot last
week Jonas and I think Brady came on our buddy
Lane Johnson form sooner jumped on the show. It was
(04:01):
a it was an awesome celebration week for the Philadelphia Eagles.
I feel like there's a few loosens that still need
to be tied up. But obviously for us, Arenie, we
were on during the game, so we didn't get a
chance to truly watch and kind of take in all
the uh analytical work from Chris collins Worth, the sideline
stuff from Michelle Tafoya al Michael's played by play. We
(04:22):
didn't get the actual audio version of the Super Bowl.
And here's what I'll say, I don't know why you
people would not listen to us after listening to that
during the Super Bowl, Arenie, I just I'll go ahead
right now at tell Annie, Tell, Scott, Tell, Don Martin.
I want that shift for the rest of easy. I do.
(04:43):
I don't know if you want to be there with me.
I hope you do. But it's I don't think that
that was one of the better broadcasted Super Bowls that
we've ever had. I thought what we did the four
or five six of us whoever were on consistently during
that broadcast, Aren'tie. It just that's the biggest game of
the year, and maybe it ties into you're not a
hundred percent tonight. Some said maybe al Michaels wasn't a
(05:05):
hundred percent tonight, but they treated that like, say it
was week two and it was I don't know, the
Los Angeles Rams battling the Arizona Cardinals. I'm not sure
in what way are you talking about. Here's here's what
stood out to me, and for those of you who
watched it, doesn't I think need a full breakdown of
(05:27):
three hours tonight. But they're just for a game of
that magnitude for what we lived on the air last
week right here on Fox Sports Radio Arnie. That deserved
some energy, that deserved another level of excitement. Al Michaels
was I don't know. It was like there was a
nap that was needed at some point during that game.
(05:48):
Chris Collinsworth, whom I'm a fan of, just I mean,
he was wrong on everything, but I don't blame him,
because half the stuff we thought was to catch everyone
was wrong on. But I don't know. I was just
I was a little bit disappointed by the lack of
energy for the biggest game of the year. I'm not
saying you have to fake it, but you didn't have
to fake anything from that game last week. Anti. It
was one of the We've had, what two of the
(06:09):
last three Super Bowls have been some of the most
memorable games that we've had. Dare I even say in
Super Bowl history? So I don't know. Maybe maybe I've
caught up in the whole We don't have football this week,
so I need something to complain about. But that really
took me back watching it. What's some well, you know,
just the one thing that bothers me just about that.
I think the wave of the future now is doing
(06:29):
games like that the way we do it. We're you know,
in the n C Double A Tournament, you've got the
Homer Channel, you've got the you know, stuff like that.
I think that's the wave because these you know a
lot of these played by play guys, they do so
many national stuff. They don't get to stay with one team.
They don't get to see that team very often. So
they're studying up there. They're like, what's this and then
we go back to this game, and you know, they're
(06:50):
just reading stats and and storylines that they're given. They don't,
you know, remember it because they didn't go they didn't
see the game live. So I think the way of
the future is really local, local, local, you know what
I mean, just do the way we did it form.
For those that haven't listened to this show before, welcome.
Maybe you're anti football and you only listen to sports
(07:11):
during the non football season. I don't know if those
people exist, but um, what was the fallout for those
that aren't familiar. I live in the beautiful city of Norman, Oklahoma.
Arnie lives in Vermont. So the the Geico Fox Sports
Radio studios in l A. We have every single part
of the of the United States pretty much covered so, Arnie,
you're in Patriot territory. Whose fault was this? Who they
(07:34):
blaming it on? What conspiracy theory cost Patriot fancy super Bowl?
This week on your show the first and I said
this locally. For the first time ever in my life
except for maybe when he was head coach of Cleveland,
Bill Belichick is getting questioned about some of the moves
that he made. I mean, he's never been questioned before.
Even when he's let a guy go a year or
two early instead of a year or too late. They're
(07:55):
questioning him. What the hell happened with Malcolm Butler? You know,
why weren't things different in here? They're absolutely questioning, Uh,
you know that he may have cost them the Super
Bowl with the benchikan Malcolm Butler. Yeah, and I see,
I kind of fall on the other side of that.
Malcolm Butler is gonna get paid this offseason. Why because
cover corners in the league get paid. It's almost up
(08:17):
there with Russians and quarterbacks and left tackles. They get
paid the big bucks. But what I guess my question is,
wouldn't have made that much of a difference based on
the way things were clicking for Philadelphia offensively well, the
fact that they were the Patriots were up by a
point late in the game. I mean, could you imagine
if they would have just had one stop on Philadelphia,
(08:37):
if they had Malcolm Butler. I mean, Roe had a
good deflection in the end zone on one play, but
he got beat all over the place. So yeah, I
think it has to have an impact because it was
they lost, So yeah, it's gotta have an impact if
he was going to play the game. And two, you
didn't tell anybody what was that all about? And another
reason why? And I know this is kind of off
the subject that people are questioning Belichick. I think it's
(09:01):
his fault over the whole Josh McDaniels situation too. I
think he's part of the blame there. Also, McDaniels left
and one of the reasons he came back wasn't because
of the more money. He came back because he was
promised that Belichick is gonna open up the playbook to him,
uh and teach him how to do front office stuff,
free agent stuff. And my question is, why the hell
didn't Belichick do that a long time ago? Why was
(09:22):
he keeping a big secret for up till now? Maybe
that's part of the whole seth Wickersham article and the
expose where maybe as Belichick gets older, Arnie, he's softening
a little bit. And I don't mean that in his
desire to win. I just mean that, and maybe opening
up the the magic vaults of secret's your job. That's
(09:43):
your job to go ahead and help your coordinators become
head coaches and give them the best situation and make
them successful. You don't keep it under your hat. I
mean there's a lot of players that change teams. You know,
you're not gonna rewrite the whole playbook whouse you lost
the player to your arrivals or anything like that. I
would disagree. It's your job to win games. I don't
necessarily think it's your job to groom assistance to get
(10:03):
head coaches gigs. I mean you can look across college
football one of the and I I don't know, it's
comparing apples to oranges. So you guys can jump on
me all over Twitter if you want it, Plank Show
and at Stinking Genius one, But your job is to
win games. In college you hear about red asses like
Gary Patterson, who apparently doesn't like his assistance to interview
anywhere else at all, and you have people that try
(10:24):
to keep guys close to them and don't want them
go in different places. So I don't know, Arnie, it'll
be interesting to see what the fallout is from this.
I mean, let's face it, that has been one of
the intriguing storylines that's developed because was that Belichick that
had his hand in keeping McDaniels around. Was that Bob
Kraft that said, hey, don't go anywhere, I'm gonna take
care of you. Does it tie back to them still
(10:46):
being a little bit red arts so to speak about
the whole deflate gate saga. I mean, I I don't know,
but it's it creates some interesting storylines as far as
fallout from the super Bowl on the Patriots side. Now,
let me counter this on the goal side, because it
was a week of celebration. Uh, Jason Kelsey became an
absolute national hero at least in Philadelphia. Is that such
(11:08):
thing national hero in Philadelphia? Whatever? But is this team
built for a long term success? And if so, do
they try to leverage anything to get picks to get
something for Nick Foles, who's still under contract with the
Eagles for next season. I'm not so sure. I want to,
you know, ship him out. Consider he's making like seven
million dollars a year. You're not gonna, I mean, you're
(11:29):
not gonna get a better backup than him. Though, Do
you owe it to him to maybe do him a
solid and send them someplace else where he could be
a starter. Uh, why are you all about giving favors
to people in the NFL's so much a favor? I mean, look,
Nick Foles deserves to be a starter somewhere. I mean,
you're gonna put him back on the bench in Philadelphia
and and just say, Okay, that was your one time.
You're the Super Bowl m v P. So back to
(11:51):
the bench you go, and you don't get to play
anywhere else. I am such a curmudgeon, or maybe it's
it's a bitterman when it comes to quarterbacks that the
dude just won the m v P and the Super Bowl.
But I can't help but say, listen to this horrible take.
You guys ready, he only had two good games. Those
two good games happened to be the NFC Championship and
(12:13):
the super Bowl. But after two regular season games, they
were wanting to play his back up dude. They got
cut by Washington. They were an So I don't necessarily
know if we're looking at the next coming of Jeff
hoss Stetler, who leaves the Giants, who becomes a starter,
makes the Playoffs with the Raiders. But Artie, I'm not
here to bury him either, because I'm torn by that
(12:33):
other side that look around the NFL right now, look
at some of the guys who are starting. Nick Foles
has a Super Bowl ring that it's not a trip
Bilt for situation where defense carried him. By God, he
carried that team to the Super Bowl Championship on Sunday
with what he did with his arm in the NFC
Championship game and then on Super Bowl Sunday. So I
(12:53):
know this isn't very this isn't a good talk show host.
You guys can bust me out. I don't care. But
I'm torn on him. I have no idea how to
feel about him. It's this kind of old school mindset
that I've had that, oh, you burned me a couple
of times, forget about you. But yet he just did
it on the biggest stage. And it's not like we're
talking about starting quarterbacks in the NFL that are nothing
(13:14):
but Hall of famers right now, what you gonna do?
Put it back on the bench, and then the first
time things go wrong for Philadelphia, they're gonna be screaming
for him over Carson Wentz. You know how the Eagle
fans are. They're disgusting eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Right,
So there is our twisty tie on the Super Bowl.
But there's still so much more to get to involving
the NFL Draft, team building, free agency, maybe more coaching
(13:36):
mo moves. We had one today. We'll talk about that.
By the way, Bobo Bobo's jelling break in my year,
I was going to go, are you talking to me?
Are you talking to me? Eight seven seven ninety nine?
On Fox eight seven seven six three six nine. It's
Arnie and Plank were rolling on a Fox Sports Sunday.
You know, John Cannon will make his triumphant return to
(13:58):
the show coming up next segment. It's been a while
for j c. Well, I mean, let's let's be honest,
from about but late August until last week. This is
a football show. I mean there's a lot that will
cover in the NBA and everybody. For the most part,
Sunday nights after the games are over. It's a it's
a football show, but we're excited to be back to
(14:19):
talk about everything in the world of sports. Are you
into the Winter Olympics? Are we gonna be able to
talk some hockey nights. I'm watching it on TV, but
I got the sound down, so I don't know if
that helps at all. I watched a little bit. I
haven't really had a chance to kind of dive in yet.
It's it's it's just like everything else in the world today.
It's too busy being politicized for me to actually enjoy
(14:40):
a sports So maybe we'll have some moliquic Olympic coverage tonight.
Steve di Saeger will have updates at the top and
bottom of every hour, and then he slides in next
hour with this to go a little bit more in
depth and from a breaking news perspective. Today, Arnie, we
have a new head coach in Indianapolis, and this time
it's official. We talked to little bit about the Josh
(15:00):
McDaniels saga in the first segment, but this might work
out pretty well for Indianapolis in the long run because
I really like Frank Reich. I think he's got the
potential to be a pretty good head coach. What say you? Well,
first of all, I want to read this real quick,
Anthony says, A plank, your guys, stinking genius is that
Josh McDaniels of sports media snake, unliable, dishonest and a weasel,
hated by everyone that interacts with him. Wow? Ah, why why? Why?
(15:25):
Why are you letting that dude get to you? Arnie?
Uh No, just because I I said that about McDaniels,
I thought it was really really bad for him to
do something like that. He accepted the job. I don't
care if you put pen the paper. I thought it
was really awful from the back out like that, considering
that they already hired the assistant coaches and they were
all gonna go there, um, you know. And again I
bring it back to Belichick also for not opening up
(15:47):
the uh you know, the whole New England mystique to
him before now. So, I think it's just horrible the
way the whole thing came down. To be honest with you,
I will say this much. I hope that maybe it
sheds a on the somewhat ridiculous nature of the NFL's
rules regarding assistance being able to make deals official with
(16:07):
teams before the end of the season. Who cares again
that that's maybe another topic for another day, but let's
go back though. They get Frank Reich and might end
up being the right move in the end. I don't know.
I look, I don't know how good he's going to be.
I remember from his days in Buffalo. I'm not sure
how good these guys are gonna be when it's all
said and done. When you're not your first choice, uh,
sometimes the second or third choice works out better, So
(16:29):
I guess time will tell on that. But the bottom
line is, I'm not a fan of Andrew lock Um.
I don't even know what the heck is going on
with him. It's been very secretive. I don't know why
the guy's rehabbing in Europe and stuff like that. I
know absolutely nothing about what's going on with him. Uh.
Here's a by the way, here's another good point off
Twitter at Big John Too. He writes what's new about
(16:49):
Belichick showing McDaniels the secret of being a head coach?
He's already taught him how to accept a job and
quit before ever coaching books. Well, yeah, Belichick has done that,
but for actually on a couple of occasions, yeah, with
the Jets. But I mean again, I don't know why.
Going back to McDaniel saga, I don't know why that
wasn't really a hot button issue for me personally. People
(17:11):
take jobs and then change their minds all the time.
I guess in this instance, the way that Chris Ballard
handled it during their press conference on what was that
Thursday or Friday, that would have made me, as a
Colts fan fill a hundred percent better. I thought I
rivalryon But again I live by that. It's here's a
(17:33):
quick wrestling reference. This shows you I listened to too
many wrestling podcasts. It's that Vince McMahon mindset to where, hey,
if you don't want to be here, go I want
someone who's a hundred percent in. I'm not gonna try
to keep you. If you don't want to be here,
go do something else. If McDaniels wasn't a hundred percent in,
go see you, I don't care. Is it is it
a little bit greasy? Sure, it's a little bit slimy. Yeah,
(17:53):
but we're not necessarily talking about the pinnacle of ethics
in the National Football League. This isn't a place where
everyone high fives because they followed the rules correctly. I mean,
this is a place to where maybe subletting the rule
book is not only accepted, but it's also kind of applauded.
It's like, oh, they found a way to get around
(18:13):
that they were able to sign that rookie or that
that that free agent for this amount of money backload
of the deal. So I again, I don't know, why
shouldn't bother me more? Should I be more upset about this? Chris?
How about if I said this, and this is not
true fake news, but could you imagine if Belichick someday
this is going to happen one thing is going to
be so mad at the other team. They're gonna say,
(18:34):
you tell them you're taking the job, and then you're
gonna back out at the last minute, and we're gonna
keep you signed here, and it's really gonna screw them up.
Can you imagine if somebody actually did that on purpose? Yeah,
and I was thinking about that a bit in this saga.
But like you said, it's not like Indianapolis has really
been much of a player the last couple of years. Again,
if if the rivalry is back on, it kind of
(18:56):
helps to beat him a few times to get that
rivalry back on. I haven't beaten the Patriots since what
oh nine, So we'll see how this plays out. Now,
let's get a couple of tweets. John Cannon coming up
at the bottom of this hour, we'll talk NBA. We've
got news when the NBA start. Why are you doing that? Wow? Well,
I didn't know what started. My bad, My bad. You
(19:16):
absolutely knew that it started. But I knew it started
because I saw that Cleveland won the championship today. I
saw them celebrating. Well, this was after you destroyed them
last night. You have to give a little bit of
backstory here, because Arnie basically just panned everything the Cleveland
Cavaliers did. Uh No, you don't want to go tearing
down the goal post. You don't want to go cutting
(19:36):
down the nets. After one win. You got a minute.
I look like a pretty damn good fit with not
much time together. They absolutely destroyed the Celtics today. I
don't know why we're finishing out the season. I mean,
they should easily be the Eastern Conference representative. I think
that's such a joke watching lebron yucking up on the
sideline because they get one win. I think it's just
absolutely laughable. We'll see how he's going to be acting
(19:58):
in the playoffs, and let's see where that deep this
is going to come from. I just realized this. I mean,
we've been doing this for several years together. You're basically
a wrestling hell because you can't even take a moment
to say wow, um, I just destroyed them and saying
how awful it was. And now after destroying them, I'm
gonna make fun of them for celebrating and dancing around
in my face. He's acting like one game is put
(20:21):
them back over the top. Come on, you acted like
they would never win another game after they made these moves. Oh,
Jordan Clarkson, what is he? I mean, come on, so far,
so good. Here's what Robert Road, he goes Calves rock
Arnie trades were right on, Well again, that was just
one win. Rose has always been a mouth content, Thomas
wasn't a good fit, and Wade was tired of the
(20:42):
drama and glad to go back to Miami. So Arnie
time to say you were wrong. Of course, after one
game you should say you just get this right then.
So they traded Kyrie away. Uh, and what did they
get returned? What did they get returned for Kyrie? Jordan
clark exciting Larry Nance Jr. Yeah, that doesn't seem like
(21:02):
the best of trades when you're thinking about getting rid
of a Hall of famer who just about every team
in the world wants. So what was your question, Arnie
person I'm supposed to not be speaking to. I just
want to know. I mean, how could you go ahead
and and and ship out Kyrie Irving for for two
guys that, because you're could have got a whole heck
of a lot more. Are you Are you serious? Like?
Are you joking? Are you serious? Wait? Wait? Are you
(21:23):
telling me Kyrie Irving for Clarkson and Nance was the
best move? They can say? Hold on, hold on, hold on.
You're a sports talk host. This is gonna be good,
and you're literally asking why they traded Kyrie Irving. No,
I'm telling you what they got for Kyrie. That is
not what they got for Kyrie. They got Isaiah? Thank you,
(21:46):
so say it right? Stop? Stop? No, you got it? Chris?
Am I wrong on this? If they got Isaiah and
then they moved Isaiah, you gotta go and take it
the next step, don't You don't know Kyrie acts to leave.
Kyre acts to leave. He got sent to Boston. In return,
Boston sent Crowder and Isaiah Thomas. It didn't work out.
(22:07):
They traded them off, and they sent them to other teams,
and they got and they got worse than that, and
then they get caught. How did they get worse? They
get Clarkson? So you're telling me what it was all
said and on. Getting rid of Kyrie and getting Clarkson.
Larry Nance was the best deal Cleveland's ever. Isaiah Thomas
played fifteen about Isaiah but I'm saying, okay, but Isaiah
Thomas played fifteen games for them, meaning they got somebody
(22:31):
who's healthier and younger. With Jordan Clarkson, who's actually putting
up numbers right now, He's seventeen points last night. What
made them go get Isaiah to begin with? If they
didn't think it was gonna work out, I mean, they
should have because Kyrie. But you could have gotten a
lot more. I keep telling from where you think that
the only person they could have gotten in a trade
(22:53):
was Isaiah Thomas. Was the only team that stepped up
to the play because they had the most gift. They
could have gone ahead made some other I bet you
that Knicks were thinking about getting rid of port Zegis.
Could you imagine if you know what that That statement
right there just shows me you've been Nick fan, and
I know they wanted to get rid of port Zinglis
last year. I'm eating popcorn from this one. Um, here's
(23:15):
the thing. In the end, it might work out best
for Cleveland. Maybe they get better by getting pieces that
fit around Lebron better than what they thought Isaiah Thomas was.
They were hamstrong, aren't he? I mean Kyrie Irving wanted
out and people can laugh and him and hawn about
about it. Right now, this might work out in the
long run with these athletic winksca way we did Lebron say,
(23:36):
if you had to do it all over again, he
wouldn't have traded Kyrie. Yeah, but Lebron is not the GM,
isn't He hasn't right, So even Lebron is saying that
they made a mistake, they shouldn't have traded Kyrie. What
are you gonna do? Keep a mouth content around? But
he wanted to tell you what Lebron said. I'm just
repeating what Lebron said. I haven't been able to see
where ARENI where Lebron said the should have made the
trade after they won today, aren't they won the tide
(23:57):
away talking run all right, we are coming to you
live from the Getico Fox Sports Radio Studios. I didn't
expect us to get that heated over this deal, but
we got John Cannon to make sense of it. Next,
we got Steve the Sager sliding in because we got
a lot going on despite no football to day to segar.
We'll get to the eight NBA Games in a moment.
We do have a Winter Olympic update from South Korea.
(24:19):
Jamie Anderson of the U S has just repeated as
gold medalist in snowboard slope style. The women's Giant Slalom
was postponed to Wednesday due to high winds. The figure
skating team event went to Canada. Russians took the silver,
US the bronze US women's hockey one it's opener three
one over Finland including an empty netter, and Norway swept
the men's ski athl on to lead the metal count
(24:40):
now with eight. As for the eight NBA Games, the
last of them, Utah's victory is now over. In fact,
Utah's up to the five mark nine wins in a
row for the Utah Jazz. They wanted Portland one despite
Damian Lillard's thirty nine points, Oklahoma City and Minnesota with
home victories atlant in Indiana as well. Houston won its
(25:02):
eighth in a row, beating Dallas one oh four ninety seven,
so the Rockets just a half game behind Golden State
for the best overall record. For the Warriors, Draymond Green
doubtful for tomorrow with a strange sprained finger, and Cleveland
dominated today's game at Boston. The Gabs four new players
combined for forty nine points, Jordan Clarkson had seventeen off
(25:22):
the bench, and Toronto won its fifth in a row
while Boston lost at home. The Raptors final was one three,
one oh three at Charlotte, so the Raptors lead the
Eastern Conference by a half game over the Celtics. The
NBA All Star Game is next Sunday night. College basketball
wins for Cincinnati and duke for Michigan and Louisville. The
Colts new head coaches Frank Reich Alex Bowman earned the
(25:44):
poll for the Daytona five hundred on Fox TV A
week from today, NHL wins among the nine games for Pittsburgh,
Vancouver and Boston. Golf's Pebble Beach Pro Am was won
by the unknown Ted Potter Jr. And Serena Williams lost
her doubles match at the kept today. Back to you,
thanks Steven Say Ted Potter Jr. Unknown He is one
(26:05):
point three million dollars richer though, so really doesn't matter
if anyone knows ye not at all. It is all good. Hey.
We are coming to you live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios tonight, obviously with Arnie and Plank. Brought to
you by Geico. It's easy to say or more on
car insurance with Geico, go to Geico dot com or
call seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out which
(26:27):
way is easier. It's been a while since we've hooked
up with our good buddy, John Cannon at j Cannon
Sports covers the Golden State Warriors in the NBA extensively.
You can read them on a Twitter feed, and of
course had to come back and cross over NBA help
us settle this little battle. Did the Cavaliers improve themselves, John,
to the point to where maybe they're gonna have something
more to say in the East than we thought with
(26:48):
Isaiah Thomas and Jay Crowder and Lebron Oh yeah, I
mean yeah, they I mean I thought that that was
going to work out better for them than it did.
But I I thought i'd did Thomas was not as
injured as he was and that, you know. But even
at the time, guys, we talked about that when that
(27:09):
trade went down and it wasn't okay what what it
was was the best they could do with losing Kyrie Irving.
I think that's kind of was the consensus. They didn't
improve themselves, but we didn't think they took as big
a step backward as as they ultimately did, because A
Thomas was hurt, came back too soon, and be Thomas
(27:29):
is small and you noticed how small Thomas is really small? Yeah,
but yeah, he wanted the max contract. He was telling
Boston when he was here he was better get that
Max contract, which was one of the reasons they shipped
him out. John. Yeah, I think, um, you know, part
of me feels like he really has gotten a series
of bad breaks in a row. It was starting obviously
(27:49):
with the death of his sister, and then the hip
injury and and then getting traded from a situation where
he really was, you know, loved um and and sent
into a situation where he was a terrible fit for
that team in Cleveland. And now he's in l A
and that match contract, you know, it's not coming this
time around, and I don't know if he'll get the
(28:11):
chance to be the kind of player he was because
of the injury, where he'd ever he'll ever see that money.
So you know, he's kind of a tragic figure in
all this, but his his attitude at the at the
different stops. There's a reason when a guy you know
gets traded four times in four years. Is there a
reason in the West as John Cannon joined Discovers the
(28:31):
Warriors for Golden State, to panic at all With the
Rockets surging, the thunder have beat him badly a couple
of times when they played. Is this a team that's
kind of coasting through the regular season or should there
be concerns with what's going on around him? Well, I
think concerns a good word. I think panic is you know,
there's a dial and panic is on the far right
side of it, and you know, concerns in the middle
(28:53):
and malaises on the left. And that's where they've spent
most of this year is in malays phase. And I
really underestim add how hard it was going to be
for them emotionally this year. Guys, I thought they were
gonna win. I really did. I looked at at their
second year when they didn't add anybody. They basically had
the same team from the first year to the second year.
(29:13):
They won the first twenty four games, they went up
winning seventy three, and I thought, well, that's what they
have this year, right, because they're not you know, their
their core came back. They didn't have to incorporate any
new players. And what I really underestimated was they also
don't have a lot to prove that second year, they
still had a lot to prove. They won the championship,
but the Calves were injured and the Warriors aren't that good,
(29:34):
and and they had they still had a huge chip
on their shoulders. Well that's gone. You know, nobody's doubting
the Warriors anymore. And I missed read how much that
was going to affect their fire. And and guys like
three Aymond Green, I mean, Draymond's had a very ordinary
season for him this year, and he's the emotional engine
of that team. So I think concern is fair, and
(29:58):
I think that you're going to see after the All
Star Break them being more engaged and and playing better
earlier in games, not waiting till the third quarter as
they have, you know many times, Like in the San
Antonio the other night, they really got it going in
the second quarter. That was big for them because they've
been a third quarter team for most of the year
and sometimes they dig themselves too big a hole and
(30:21):
they throw the ball around the gym like crazy, and
their turnovers are just whack. And that's what Steve Kurry
I think, is hoping that Concern will help dial that
back and they'll take better care of the basketball. I still,
I mean, I think I think the NBA is very
interesting right now. I do. I think the Western playoffs
are gonna be great. I think the Eastern playoffs are
gonna be interesting. And I do still think Cleveland is
(30:43):
is now again the runaway favorite. But I think you'll
still have some good series and I make Cleveland has
a chance to give, you know, whoever comes out of
the West a decent final, because there's so much younger
and athletic than they were before. John where did that
Lebron rumor come from. Was it just bogus from the
very start? Were you believing any of it? The Lebron's
(31:03):
camp release, it was not all about it was the
It was the worst of sports media, it really was.
It was it was somebody, you know, asking a question
you kind of would you be interested? And I don't know,
you know, at no point where the Warriors interested, you know,
(31:25):
So it was a complete hypothetical that had no I mean,
they have a power forward right now. I don't know
if you heard of him, Durant, I think Chris you
you covered him, right, Yeah, he's still pretty much publican
number one here in Oklahoma. Well yeah, but so the
Warriors are not in the market for a floor right now.
So that that was just somebody trying to get clicks
(31:45):
and it worked. Here is maybe the bigger question here.
And I hate to do this to look at because
I'm with you, John Cannon's our guest, John. I think
the NBA has it going on right now. I think
there's incredible story lines everywhere. I honestly it's it's helping
fill my football void. I can't get enough of it,
and I haven't been able to get enough of it
(32:07):
all season long. But with that set, are we really
preparing for another summer of Lebron? Or with what they
were able to do over the last week, have they
been able to maybe maybe really keep this a little
bit more enticing for him to stay and make a
few more runs in Cleveland. Well, they had to roll
the dice, guys, they really did they And the ironic
(32:30):
thing and everybody talking about this is they have allowed
the Lakers to position themselves to really make a run
a Lebron. So in rolling the dice and trying to
make their team better to keep Lebron, they had the
single biggest destination everyone has thought about for Lebron. They
allowed those guys to clear clear out cap room not
only for Lebron, but for one other star to come
(32:53):
in and get Max Steel. So now they're on the
high wire, right, I Mean, they really have put themselves
out there, but they really didn't have a choice. I
think Kobe Altman deserves a tremendous amount of credit for
pulling off those deals and unloading those players that were
awful and and taking on you know, other other team's
problems and contracts in order to make make it work
(33:14):
and give themselves a situation where Lebron might have a
hell of a lot of fun this spring and decide
to stay. And if he doesn't, he doesn't, but at
least they take a shot at it. And you know, guys,
if Dave Griffin really mentored that guy, that kid, you know,
Kobe came in and you know, as a young guy
worked with Griff. Griffs are really really good and his
(33:36):
fingerprints are on these deals, even though he's not there
anymore because he tutored Alban. But I think the NBA's
in a great position, guys. I think it starts with
the All Star Game. I am excited about the All
Star Game. I haven't heard you guys talking about it.
Where are you on this? I dig it. I like
the idea of selecting teams, though if you're on Team Lebron,
put yourself in bubble wrap because it seems like everyone
(33:57):
seems to be falling by the waist side right now.
But I dig it, John, I think it's gonna be
fun for the game. I think they're gonna play hard,
you know. I think it's and the fact that the
NBA increased the winners share two hundred thousand. I think
it's almost embarrassing. I think it's insulting because the hundred
thousand dollars doesn't matter to any of those guys. These
(34:17):
are the All Stars. It's not the average NBA player.
It's not a guy you know, trying to It's not
a on a two way contract. A hundred thousands would
matter to those guys. It doesn't matter to any of
these guys. What matters is they were selected to a
team and they're gonna want to prove that they are
better than the guys on the other team. That is
(34:37):
what's gonna make it magic. It has nothing to do
with the hundred thousand dollars these guys. It's bragging rights.
That's what these guys want. And and I think I
can't wait. I think it's gonna be a great game
and a great kickoff to the second half of the season.
I am. Though Christie brought up the injuries. I don't
know whether it's because the season started two weeks earlier.
They tried to do that to stretch the games out
(35:00):
and not have so much stress on their bodies, but
maybe they should have had to go two weeks longer
at the end instead of shortening the off season. I
don't know what it is, but it just seems to
me maybe it's just bigger names going down and so
we're all noticing. Yeah, that's always the big debate. Yeah,
and John, we appreciate it, buddy. We'll talk to you soon, man.
Thanks for all. Thanks and good catch back up John
(35:21):
Cannon at Jay Cannon's getting ripped on Twitter like crazy.
John Cannon was just on with us, and I know
you care about his fighting with people on Twitter. They're
killing No, you totally tuned out on that interview. You
you were fighting with people on Twitter. I know you were,
and it's hilarious. But I will say this, I dig
(35:42):
the idea of the funniest thing and I know we're
doing break. The funniest thing about the All Star Game
was still that Russell Westbrook was sold by his teammates
that he was the very last player taken and that
he found out that the lebron He's like, I knew
I wasn't the last. That gosh, that's pure Russ. All right,
when we come back, we'll hit some of that Twitter next.
Plank on a Fox Sports Sunday, Arnie and Plank on
(36:04):
a Fox Sports Sunday every Sunday Night, brought to you
by Granger the products and services you need when you
need them. Grangers got your back to help keep your
facility running. Granger for the ones who get it done. Well,
you weren't kidding, aren't? They're killing me? Let me start
with Cody, who says this creep Spaniards more selfish and
self centered? Uh me, guy than Isaiah will ever be.
(36:28):
I don't know where that comes from. What did I
say about Isaiah that then I wouldn't give him the
MAX contract? Is that insulting? Now? Is that insulting to
say that? Um? Back up the Brinx trucks for at
Isaiah Thomas Notiard. What does that mean? Um? Thomas says Arnie.
I'm sorry, but you're way off on the Calves talk.
(36:49):
The guy yelling a spot on which I guess is Bobo.
You know, Bobo said, well, were they going to trade
them to if they didn't trade them to Boston? Well,
how about the Lakers? Since the Lakers ended up with
him to begin with? Any way about they could have
just forgot about the middlemaners didn't end up with Kyrie Irvy. No, no,
I was talking about I was talking about Isaiah Cabs
(37:10):
definitely got better and still can't beat anybody in the
top three in the West. Well, I don't know if
anyone from the East could beat any of the teams
in the top three in the West. To begin with,
what's this from Bason Baller? Any chance we get basketball
people behind the mix instead of these two clowns Rooney
rule for radio. He must be talking about you and
Bobo yelling at each other. That's the only thing I
(37:30):
can come up with. What happened? And then they panned
the man. What's up with? What? Show? On Fox Sports Radio?
Will be taking over your NFL postgame slot? Maybe talk
MLB pictures and catchers report this week the extremely slow
free Agenciason where the unsigned free agent sign blah blah blah,
blah blah blah. He wants to talk pictures and catch
I don't know, does he not know that this is
(37:52):
our slot? Like for the last five years, I'm on
a purplex, aren't you at Arnie? Yeah? Here, baseball guy,
I gotta try to refocus on baseball guy is Baseball
Guy is pretty angry. I think by the lack of
coverage a A story is getting and I'm I'm lumping
you in it with this pander man. Every baseball guy
(38:13):
can get mad at me. I'm a baseball guy and
my core. But what are we gonna talk about? What
do you really want to talk about? Right now? There's
no free agent movement. You Darvish signs a ridiculous deal
with the Cups. The Cups chose you Darvish over Jake Arietta,
which makes no sense to me. Whatsoever are you gonna
get ripped over that? If I say that, I'm a
(38:34):
knuckle ahead. Don't know what I'm talking about if I
say something like that. But my point is pictures and
catchers report. Let's watch spring training play out a little bit.
Let's see. I mean, Eric Cosmer is still without a deal,
There's a lot of Mike Mustakis is still without a deal.
There's a lot of big names out there without a deal.
So let's let it play out a little bit. Is
there some conspiracy behind why there aren't big contracts being
(38:55):
given out? Yeah, I'll tell you what the conspiracy is
this free agent class thanks, it's stanks and the only
player that might be worth the damn is is Hosmer
and they're being patient and waking waiting for his big
offer and it's not coming yet, so I'm not gonna
get too carried away with anything as far as conspiracies
with baseball and free agency are concerned. Hold, and there
(39:16):
was one more hate tweet that I got in my
whole tweputer just crashed. Well, uh, let me see here
which got so many that kind of gives you the
idea of the way the night has gone for Arnie
so far. Whenever we say the hate and he's sick
to people, And this is horrible? Is this when all
Fox Sports listens are hoping, stinking, she just gets another
gig and takes it. That is the one my old
computer that's just cold. And and then I like this
(39:42):
as well. This is from Seawan who writes, give the
proper respect to the legend Paul Pierce for having his
jersey retired. Well, I mean, do you want to celebrate
Paul Pierce? Do you want to talk about your team
getting their butts kicked today? I mean, which way do
you want to go? Anyway? Is that a digging us?
We didn't even say anything about Paul Pears. No, no, no.
I just think every so often you'll have people that
(40:03):
feel like that you should be talking about something more
than it really deserves. Hey, congratulations Paul Pierce got his
jersey retired. Yeah, shout out to homie Paul Pierce. Let's
break that down for the next hour and too, how
about where the hell do you go with that? What
do you want on it? Proper respect? He was mad
that he's gonna have to share his day with Isaiah
Thomas and guess what, he didn't have to worry about
(40:25):
it and the Celtics got smoked. So what do you want?
You want to start here and just gush over Paul
Pierce's career are talking about now? Maybe the Calves are
back to being your equal? You choose Sean eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox when we come back to
the guy called Fox Sports Radio Studios, tons of NBA
and a lot of NFL talk here with Arnie and Plank,
(40:45):
you know, for the first non football Sunday. No, this
is awesome. Can we start? I don't know what's got
you all fired up online tonight, but everyone's twitter mad
this evening. I did have to laugh ahead. This is
the first show that I've not started with a hot
sports take since football. I mean, I'm just like, I'm
(41:06):
not feeling so good. We're just coming very casual, just
talk with Plank a little bit, and then all this happens. Well, yeah,
part of it is. I mean, we just started fighting
right off the top, and I can honestly say I've
had nothing to do with it. I've been a relaxed
by standard here this evening. Though. I will say Matt
brings up a good point on Twitter, and again, you
(41:26):
guys should be falling in gals at Fox Sports Radio.
Everybody follow them, uh Fox Sports Radio Twitter feed. Arnie
is at stinking Genius want st I and k I
in Genius in the number one I'm at Plank show
and it was funny. Matt tweeted during the break he said,
safe to say Plank is and was not a Paul
Pierce fan. I I laughed a little bit because it's
not necessarily that I'm anti Paul Pierce. I just I
(41:48):
never understand the whole. Hey, you guys should talk about
Paul Pierce's number being retired more. You should talk more
about baseball, not not not getting guys sign more. It's like, okay, great,
Holland Depp, can we really go Paul Pierce had his
number retired? Yeah, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sit
there and have a debate about the mount rushmore of
Celtic players and if Paul Pierce belongs on it, I mean,
(42:11):
come on, that's for a hacky local show somewhere, not
this hacky national show, by God. And then the second
part of it, answered Pandaman, when the people are taking
over our show now that football has done, I don't
think he understands were I feel. I feel good that
we're on tonight, so we'll hope that it happens next
week as well too. But I'll follow up on that.
There is a part of me, Arnie that's still very
(42:31):
bitter about the whole wheelchair thing with Paul Pierce, whenever
he was basically taken out, i mean rushed to the
emergency room and then magically walks back out on the
court to lead the Celtics to win. So I'm sure
Matt there's a hint of bitterness out there as well too.
Um And there was a few more tweets during the
top of the hour, Oh oh my gosh, Arnie, you
had someone that actually agreed with you, which I don't
(42:55):
think any of us are losing our minds about Isaiah Thomas.
He said, I agree with you, Arnie, Isaiah Thomas is overrated.
Wouldn't give him the Max. I don't think anyone on
the show is saying that you should give Isaiah Thomas
the Max. But he was when he was in Boston,
he said that he there's it's only the Max or
pretty much nothing. I'll paraphrase he And you know at
that time he deserved it. He was having a phenomenal year,
(43:16):
thirty points a game. He came back after his sister's
death to playing games. He was tremendous for the Celtics.
But um, I'm not so sure that you know, after
what you've seen now that he's a MAX type guy.
To be honest with you, we are coming to you
alive tonight from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen
minutes could save you fifteen per cent or more on
car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote.
(43:39):
Coming up in our next segment, chronom Er Crush and
I think we all agree that I mean beyond the
major national story, which is the winner Olympics and everyone
pretending like they care about alpine skiing and everyone acting
goofy over curling. Hey, curling. I love curling. I got
a curly match coming up this week. No you don't. Yeah,
I'm in the curling. Yeah, we have curling weeks up
(43:59):
here in Vermont? Are you being Are you gonna tweet it?
Last year I couldn't do it. I just didn't have
the time. I'm supposed to be in a tournament. I
didn't have the time to do it last year either.
This year I'm probably either going to do the league
or just the tournament. I haven't figured it out yet,
depends how much side might have. So you're a curling
fan now beyond just I've never I've never played it,
but I I've watched not TV, so I think I
(44:19):
could be within the top. The sport of curling will
now cease to exist after this week, wipe out an
entire sport. I don't know if you guys know this,
but you don't have to get down on one knee
to push that thing. You could. You can stand up
and do it too. So I know it's called a stone,
that's whatever. You don't even know what it's called. I'm
taking even what Clay Travis said, give me four years
(44:41):
to just do nothing, but curling, and I'd be in
the Olympics. Well yeah, but how are you gonna pay
your bills? Well, you know, my mother in law still alive,
so honestly, I'm gonna have to my god. Um all right,
So beyond the Winter Olympics, everyone's losing their mind about
everything coming together for the Calves today. There's a lot
of talk about the Lakers. But can I just say
(45:01):
one thing, Chris. I'm sorry to jump in because you
said the one the Olympics, Like, just one little thing
that bothers me about that. I don't want to get
on my high horse or my soapbox, but it really
bothered me, really bothered me about what Shawny Davis said
about the USA uh selection on who the flag bearer
was gonna be was dishonorable. Um. I think that's a
(45:22):
poor choice of words. Uh too, here's the guy that
didn't even show up to the opening ceremonies. And I
know he said that he was possibly not gonna show
until he was announced that he was gonna be a
possible flag bearer. But from what I understand, that's the
way we've always done it. If it ended up in
a tie, which it did four to four you flip
a coin. So I think he was out of bound
saying that. I think he owes uh the four or
(45:42):
excuse me, the eight person selection commute apology, and I
don't like what he says hashtag us a dishonorable. You know,
it's always about the name on the front when it
comes to the Olympics, and I don't think people modern
day athletes don't understand it's the name on the front
and just about all sports. But now it's more about
the name in the back. And it just discussed me
(46:03):
and but there's no room for that in the Olympics.
I did find out one thing. I found out who
Shawny Davis was through all of this process. And then
the second part is really seriously, I just I think
of things that you can be mad about in this
in this world. And I understand the disappointment over Wow,
that's a pretty cool moment, But it's the opening ceremonies.
You still get to perform your event, you still get
(46:25):
to compete, you still have a chance to win a
gold medal. I mean, this isn't this isn't a race
issue by any stretch of the imagination. And I'm sure
We'll have a handful of people that want to act
like they suddenly care about speed skating, but oh it is.
But I don't see it as that. I a simple
look explanation, nothing about speed skating. I don't even care
what their events are. That has nothing to do with
(46:46):
anything at this situation. Well, I will say this much.
He did train separately from his US timmates for years,
so I would understand that they might have a little
bit of a different, say, relationship ship with someone that
had trained around them. But still it doesn't take away
from his greatness. He's still a great athlete. I just
wish this wasn't an issue for the United States team
(47:08):
heading into the Olympics. I wish we all were excited
and we all were pumped and we didn't have to
deal with this, because in all reality, this is as
much boy I'm gonna you weren't gonna get on your soapbox.
I don't want to get on mine. We act like
we care about these sports once every four years, but Arnie,
these are young men and women who trained their entire
lives for this opportunity. One of I was talking to
(47:30):
one of our one of my friends, Zach Roulette, who's
the strength and conditioning coach for the Oklahoma Saitors. And
he had trained to be a Bobsladder and he was
gonna try to make the Bob's led Olympic team, but
he pulled a hamstring and he never got that opportunity.
You don't think he would kill for just a chance
to go and compete in the Winter Olympics. And now
you have someone who not only competes, but is at
the highest level of competition and they're acting like this
(47:52):
over not being able to carry the flag. I just, again,
I understand the frustration, but I think you kind of
swallow your pride a little bit. You know, human aility
is a hard thing in today's world, because you have
enough people that telling that would tell you, yeah, man,
you deserve it. Go out there and and tell them
that you deserve it. And I just I think this
is one of the more ridiculous stories that we've This
is more ridiculous than the people that made that movie
(48:14):
Peter Rabbit having to apologize for the blueberry blueberry food
allergy issue that they have. Wait, no, no, I don't
Why do you say it's ridiculous. I think it's ridiculous. Well,
I think he's really upset about it, and the fact
that he tweeted that out bothered me so um and
I think it bothered a lot of Americans, to be
honest with your Chris, Uh, it's it should So why
(48:35):
are you are you want? Are you saying that you're okay? Listen,
you have freedom to tweet whatever you want, go do it.
But I just think it's ridiculous. You're you're still competing
in the Olympics. Will compete in the Olympics, don't he
The one thing that happens from the Olympics is you
have an opportunity to become a marketable star. And I'm
(48:56):
not saying I I can I can see a tweet. Oh,
you're just saying everyone has to just fall in line. No,
I'm not saying you just have to fall in line.
I'm saying that there is a certain sense of camaraderie,
of civic pride, of national pride, of teamwork that comes
into it. And when you're out there and you're acting
mad because you don't get to walk in with the flag,
it doesn't resonate with me. Maybe it should, but I
(49:17):
look at it and I say that's being just that
that's acting bitter whenever you still get a chance to compete.
So I'm off my high horse on this. I know
you're off your high horse on this. I hope we're
able to talk about an incredible winter Olympic Games and
stories like this, And I mean, I don't know, does
it go somewhere beyond here, Arnie, or does he get
buried after this unless the dude doesn't perform well or
(49:38):
if he does go out perfect. And I think it
gets buried after this. Well, I mean, everybody's gonna be
rooting for him. I think he's a great athlete. I'm
looking forward to seeing him skate. So I think it
gets it gets buried after this situation. By the way,
I like this. So we had went about five minutes.
They're talking about the Olympics. Our man Brendan checks in
on Twitter says American sports are greater than the Olympics.
Please do not talk Olympics on the radio. You can't
(50:00):
talk cocky on the air, then you can't talk Olympics
on the air. I think that's I think that's a
fun debate. Because here I am. I'm a huge NASCAR fan, right,
I'd love to be able to talk Nascar on the radio.
But I'm not gonna sit here and tell anyone, well,
you're dumb if you talk Nascar. I'm just gonna say
it's my sport. We're probably not gonna be able to
get people fired up on a national audience about it,
so I'll cover it in my way. We're not going
(50:22):
in depth on whether or not we thought proper technique
was used in the luge. We're not sitting here going
in depth concerning whether or not the proper sweeping mechanism
was used in curling. It's an issue that I think
has made a lot of headlines over the last forty
eight hours, aren't you. I think it's worthy of a
conversation on this show tonight. It's the Olympics. I mean,
(50:42):
my goodness, five minutes. I don't see the problem here.
And you know, by the way, we're seeing a stork
thing going on right in front of us with North
and South Korea. I don't want to get political, but
that's I mean that that's a stork. Like I mean,
it's unbelievable. What's going on? It is it is, It's
pretty cool. And from that perspective, you you hope that
(51:04):
there's not like an ulterior motive here, but from bringing
communities and countries together. That's one of the great things
typically about the Olympics. All Right, we'll do a break
and we got Crown of our crushing coming up next.
But real quickly, get two more quick tweets in here,
Eddie writes, personally, I enjoyed listening to NBC apologizing for
(51:26):
the snowboarders launching launching into their hot Mike f bombs.
I'll say this much, whoever is miked up the Olympics
this year deserves a raise. You can hear everything that's taken.
Maybe that's a matter of people. Is that a big thing?
No plank dropping the bombs and that bombs when you're
when you just get natural reaction from the athletes. I
don't mind it, but then again, I'm forty two years
(51:46):
old and as long as I you know, they catch
most of them anymore. To have you listened to an
NBA game recently, they usually do a pretty good job
catching them. But I was I was a little bit
surprised by that earlier. I don't have a big problem
with it. I mean, I'm not gonna write the FCC
or anything. Are you. I'm just wondering maybe they should
have just allowed cursing. You know, just it is again.
(52:07):
It's why I would say, I don't think you allow
cursing unless you want to put it on CNBC or MSNBC.
You're still on NBC. They'll get no punishment for that.
I don't believe. Well, I'm sure there'll be enough people
complaining where something will happen. And then I like this
from U C. L A Dodger, Frank Arnie going curling.
Arnie's wife just wants him to sweep the living room
(52:28):
once in a while. That is true. Are you dodging
your response to curling? Uh uh? They have icy here
curling about I'd say like five minutes from my house,
so uh yeah. They have it all the type tournaments leagues.
I just haven't had the time to play. So I
get asked all the time, and they always want us
to get a team together. So I may do it
(52:49):
this year. You just said you were are you wanting
to look, I'm good to do it. I just don't
know if I'm gonna do the tournament or the league.
I haven't made up my mind yet. When we come
back to the getic, Fox Sports right of studios. It's
time to play crown him or crush him, and don't
forget Arnie's picks are coming up later, which basically, what
are we gonna have the apology hotline out? We want
to apologize. I do pick right yesterday. I got my
(53:13):
Michigan pick right today. I I don't think I'm ever
gonna lose another game. Chris, you're on fire. I got
the super Bowl pick right. I did get the Boston
game wrong, but I'm not gonna bring that up last week. Yeah, don't,
but don't talk about the miss issues. Talking about the makes.
We'll get into chron him or crush him and Arnie picks.
Arnie's picks coming up in our final segment. Right here,
it's Arny in Plank on a Fox Sports Sunday. What
does it mean when getic says just fifteen minutes could
(53:34):
save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance, Well,
it means you probably should have gone to get dot
Com fifteen minutes ago. Bobo's on the wheels of steel.
Eric Roberts, our producer, He's he's Arnie span your I'm
nearly Chris playing hey, by the way, not one tweet
on shawnny Davis, which I thought was a big story.
Yet people ripping me for I'm not even sure what
(53:57):
they're ripping me because I said, what did I say
about Queenland? I don't even know what I've about Cleveland
and Isaiah that had everybody ripping me. Here's what happened,
Arnie is I don't know if after your shows you
have the whole men in Black? Is that is that
too old of a reference to use? And the Black
Men and Black had this thing in the movie where
they would flash it in front of your eyes and
you'd forget everything. Maybe more Baby Boss or Boss Baby
(54:19):
they have the same thing where they would flash this
thing in front of their eyes and they forget everything. Um,
I think you forge forget how much you destroyed Cleveland
for these moves last night. You basically made it sound
like they wouldn't win another game. So when they win
a game, I think people are more apt to try
to fire back it's won one game. Oh my goodness,
(54:40):
there's sub seriously wrong with you guys that everybody saw
Cleveland plate did they beat Boston and next thing you know,
they're on their way winning a championship. There's something seriously
wrong with you guys. But again, I mean, this seems
kind of a quit. If the Cavaliers win the championship
this year, mark the tape Central time on February. What
(55:00):
is it? If I recall correctly, I remember something similar
to this when was if I'll quit if my Arizona
Wildcats don't win the March Madness and still working. No, No,
I said I would quit if Minnesota but the two
championship games, if they both would have was, but Minnesota
pulled that. I think the point of this is we
(55:21):
can't take you serious with any of your bets. No,
I've never been rang on that you should things you
should go with what Mark Willard once famously went with
right here on Fox Sports Radio when he bet Brian
know that the Cat if the Calves ever won the
NBA title, he would cut both of his arms. He
should have done it, as you see him walking around
(55:41):
with just shoulders, which again is not You should probably
shoot a little bit higher for your bets. I think
from here on then it goes to show you that
but they're not going They might not even be in
the championship, So I don't know how they're gonna win
the championship if they're not even gonna be in there. Well,
I guess kind of the point is when when you
when you mock and you basically belittle a fan base,
(56:02):
and then they go out and do that in their
first game together, when they basically had one practice, that's
pretty reassuring. I think people might be firing back at you.
I got a temple, Barny. Here's Adrian that put a
tweet in that mixed in the Olympics Bobo and I
don't know, maybe basketball says your Bobbo needs to take
needs to go Tanya harding on stinking genius and do
(56:23):
us all a favor permanently. Somebody give him a lead
pipe already. So there you there, you go. There. Oh
my goodness, that was dark, little bit too much dark an.
Let's get after him. I signed to play. Crown him.
Are crushing Done's done, the games are done. Now it's
(56:44):
time to crown him for crush alright, crown of our
crush him. Our version of buyer buyer sell right or wrong.
Whatever everyone else does, we just have a little bit
of a different slant on it. So let's start here.
Since we've been talking a lot about the Calves in
their moves they've made. And again Cleveland went out and
(57:04):
played incredibly well today in just dominating knocking off the
Boston Celtics. What was the final score of that game?
I had it right here in front of me, one
to ninety nine. Lebron had twenty four points, eight rebounds,
and Tennessee was a hundred to nothing. So Crownomer crush him, Arnie.
The Calves have made the right moves. There again the
team to beat in the East. Well, based on one game, Chris,
(57:27):
they're a hundred percent. I mean, who's going to beat up? Now?
Let me tell you something. I have a better chance
I hook it up with the Golden State Warriors because
Kurse signs me to a contract, because we're buddies. Than
the Cavaliers winning an NBA championship. It's not going to happen.
You understand that, don't you. They don't play good enough defense,
they are too new. Yes, they beat up Boston team,
congratulations to that. No, they're not going anywhere. They're not
(57:52):
winning anything. And let me tell you something. If I
had to bet, I bet that they don't even make
the NBA Championship. Crownomer crush him. ARENI the Calves still
have the best player in the game in Lebron James. Yeah,
I'm wow, that's a tough one. I'm gonna say, well, no, no,
I mean we were talking strictly statistics and were talking points, rebounds,
(58:13):
this per game. Arnie Spanier gets to start a team
with one team with in the NBA, and you can't
do the starting your team thing because he's two old.
So I'm gonna go with a younger person. But if
it's like one player to your team before the start
of the playoffs to win a championship, who would it be.
It wouldn't be Lebron either, So um, no, he's no
(58:35):
longer the best guy in the NBA. Arnie wants a
guy that could consistently knocked down a perimeter jumper. I
was gonna say, James Harden, were you say hard? Okay?
Speaking of that Chronomer, crush him. The Houston Rockets are
now the best team in the West, by the way,
in the standings, they're only a half game back of
Golden State thirteen the Warriors or forty three and thirteen.
(59:00):
I'll go out and the women say they're one of
the top two. Chris, how about don't urge yourself space. Yeah,
I don't know if they're ready to claim that number
one spot away from Golden State. So I'm gonna say
crush them on that. They're They're not the best team
right now in the conference. You've got to prove a
little bit more. You gotta prove a lot more before
you take away that uh, that monica from the Golden
(59:21):
State Warriors. So no, I'm gonna crush him on that.
You know. It's it's interesting in the West right now
because I I watch a lot of the Rockets, we
get we get all the Rockets Mavericks in Oklahoma City
thunder games here where I live. I'm confused as all
get out on this very simple question. Are the Rockets
really this good? I can't figure it out. I mean, yes,
I know statistically where they are, but I mean, come June,
(59:44):
are we gonna be talking about a team that's right there?
Or as you just brought up, aren't either defense is
gonna hold him back, Clint Capella is gonna realize he's
Clint Capella, I mean hardened and Paul could be defensive liabilities.
I mean, I have a hard time figuring out if
they're really a great team or not with what Daryl
Morey's put together. Uh yeah, even if you don't play defense,
what's the best way to play defense? If you don't,
(01:00:06):
that means score a lot of scoring. So yeah, and
you know what, it wasn't like Cleveland wasn't defensive juggernaut either.
When it's all said and done, I don't see San
Antonio doing an all heck of a lot. So when
it's when? When when the playoffs finish up? The Western
Conference Finals will beat Golden State in Houston, and make
no mistake about it, it will go seven games and
Golden State Poppy wins game seven. I will say this
(01:00:28):
one and two seem pretty set in the In the
Western Conference, three through eight is wide open. You have
five games separating the three seed from the eight seed Arny,
and when the Thunder are healthy, they've shown they can
beat Golden State Minnesota. I I just like their mix
right now seeing Antonio is hard to figure out the
Leonard injury. You have Damon Lillard, Lillard and Si mccullo
(01:00:49):
that are putting up fifty on somewhat regular basis. Obviously,
maybe the Pelicans aren't so much in the mix with
their injuries, and the Clippers because of the trade they made,
did prison there as well too. But it's kind of
it's are seeing to look three through eight in the
NBA's Western Conference because it's a bit of a log
jam right now. It is. I don't know, you know,
five games still is kind of a lot. So I
don't see you like San Antonio dropping down to the
(01:01:10):
number eighth seed the Pelicans climbing on up. But it
is a big bunch up, especially with five six seven,
they'd only separated by a couple of games. All right,
I want to jump to the NBA in our final
Crownham or crush him? And it's become a very hot
button issue in the league, and that is the Kirk
Cousins debate. But let's rewind a little bit, uh, a
little bit more towards last week, Arnie Crownham or crush him?
(01:01:33):
The San Francisco forty Niners jumped the gun and giving
Jimmy Garoppolo the richest contract in the NFL and in
NFL history, Um, you have to jump the gun. So
what did you win? What did you want them to do?
Wait for this year to end? I mean, what what
other choice did they have, And what are you gonna
(01:01:54):
go ahead skimp out on a few couple of million dollars?
Does the NFL These owners are making money hands over fist.
So look, I don't think he deserves to be the
highest paid player in the NFL. A matter of fact,
you know that focus story about Tom Brady being upset.
The only reason I thought maybe that could possibly be
true is I would be upset if my backup was
making like almost double what I was making. I can
(01:02:17):
only imagine what the Roethlisberger's, the Russell Wilson's, Cam Newton's
of the world feel about Garoppolo making thirty seven million dollars.
So they had to give him the money build there
was no other choice, And yeah, you have to jump
the gun to get to make sure he's happy. Hey,
I'm the first one to say, hey, slow down, because
with a five game sample size, we basically we're putting
(01:02:39):
Robert Griffin the third in the Hall of Fame. So it's,
you know, e ease up, But I get it. It's
it's where the NFL is now. They feel comfortable with
Shanahan system, They feel good about what John Lynch is
built around him. Hell yeah, you gotta do it. And
and here's another thing, No one everyone's losing their mind
about Kirk Cousins. Oh you gotta pay Cousins. Dudes, four
(01:02:59):
games under five hundred in his career and I know,
quarterback wins or something that are kind of challenging to
gauge a quarterback on, but they still matter to me.
I'll take my chances with Garoppolo right now. I mean,
I think they've got an opportunity to build something pretty
special in San Francisco. I mean, how could you not.
I mean, the way he looked last year was tremendous.
I mean the way he won those games. And because
(01:03:20):
of those five wins, the San Francisco forty niners and
now twenty to one to win the Super Bowl for
next year, they have better odds. They have a better
chance of winning the Super Bowl, according to Vegas than
I think like Seattle or Jacksonville or some of the
teams that actually made the playoffs in Jacksonville. Um. Yeah,
and again Kirk Cousins twenty six wins, thirty losses, one tie.
(01:03:41):
But back to Brinks like that, back the Brinks truck
up and give a guy with a losing record as
a starter because he's throwing a few Knights passes. All right,
when we come back to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios,
I have a couple of other chrownomer crush them topics
to throw at Arnie. But before we get any for there,
let's bring in Steve to seer kind of go in
(01:04:02):
depth and all the stories that we've left out here
this evening on a Fox Sports Sunday, it was going
on Steve the thing about the Garoppolo contract. You know,
they say it's a five year deal NFL contracts. It's
five years on paper, and I might not be around
in the league much less that team in five years.
Not everything is guaranteed, but they sloaded the thing, so
it's great for them not to take a huge cap
(01:04:23):
hit later in the contract. But okay, so you give
him a signing bonus up front, But according to Forbes,
the signing bonus was thirty five million dollars. Jimmy Garoppolo
is getting a signing bonus of thirty five mills. So
he gets the thirty five plus the salary for the
coming season. Holy cow, is that in his favor to
get that much money up from But you've gotta pay
(01:04:44):
a lot more taxes. A lot of athletes want to
go ahead and get it back and so I don't
have to pay so much taxes up front. Well, I
heard on the show before you that Don Yee is
actually very team friendly in his negotiating, So I'm sure
both sides were very happy with this. By the way.
With the NFL notes, Utah had waved Derrick Rose yesterday.
Reportedly Minnesota and Washington are interested. He was just acquired
(01:05:07):
this past week from Cleveland, where Rose average ten points
a game. Draymond Green of Golden State is doubtful for
tomorrow night with a spring finger. The NBA All Star
Game Guys is next Sunday nights in Los Angeles, so
you know Laker fans will be cheering Paul George and
Lebron James as they are in action in this NBA exhibition.
There was a game at Oklahoma City tonight. Russell Westbrook
(01:05:29):
and Carmelo Anthony each out with sprained ankles. Paul George
had thirty three points eight assists. Oklahoma City beat Memphis
one ten to ninety two. Grizzlies from three point range. Memphis,
with one of the worst records in the NBA, and
they've lost six straight games. The late game was at Portland,
Damian Lillard with thirty nine points, but Utah one again
(01:05:49):
one fift. The Utah Jazz have won nine in a row.
Houston won it's eighth straight, Toronto won it's fifth in
a row, while Boston lost at home one to Cleveland.
So the Raptors lead the Eastern Conference by a half
game over the Celtics. Great news. There's a quick way.
You could say money switched to Geico. Go to Geico
dot com and in fifteen minutes you could say fifteen
(01:06:10):
per cent or more on car insurance. The Colts new
head coaches Frank Reich, Alex Bohlman, or In the poll
for the Daytona five hundred golfs Pebble Beach Pro Am
was won by the dreaded Ted Porter, Ted Potter Harry Potter,
Ted Potter Jr. And at the Winter Olympics, the figure
skating team event went to Canada tonight, US one bronze.
(01:06:31):
US has taken a gold. Jamie Anderson repeats his gold
medalist in snowboard slope style. The women's giant slalom Tonight
was postponed Wednesday due to high winds, and you mentioned
the political stuff going on, the possibilities with the two Korea's.
You know, they had that unified women's hockey team taking
place literally with a flag of Korea as their flag.
It doesn't say North or South on the uniforms. They
(01:06:54):
had their debut game. They play again tomorrow morning. The debut.
The Korean team lost eight nothing hockey. They lost eight
nothing in the open air to the Swiss. So what
you're saying, Steve is they might not be that good.
So you're saying there's a chance. Wow. By the way,
the US women's hockey they won the opener at BIT.
It's been almost twenty four hours by now. They beat
(01:07:14):
Finling three one, including an empty letter. We're coming to
you live tonight from the Geico Fox Sports radio studios.
Think Steve will be back in about ten minutes now.
It's easy to say or more on car insurance with Geico,
go to Geico dot com or call eight nine four
seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out which way
is easy, you know, Pike, We had one of the
uh locally. We had on the UM women's UH ice
(01:07:38):
or women's A hockey team. One of the players on.
She lives up here in Vermont, so she comes on
all the time with us very man the pelky really
really nice girl and great great hockey players. I'm curious. Yeah,
she's gonna end up doing now and I will I
will add it's at one of those sports and I
will never watch outside of the Olympics, So it's kind
of fun to follow it and go all in on it.
So we'll see how it plays out. By the way,
(01:07:59):
Steve mitch and something in his update, and we've seen
it play out over the last couple of weeks, Laker
fans losing their minds for Lebron and Paul Joy I think,
really Paul George is the only one so far, And
is Steve brought up maybe Lebron with the All Star Game?
Are you? Are you kind of getting a sense that
they're still going to be an active player in free
(01:08:20):
agency this year, despite that report early last week that
they were gonna wait until twenty nineteen. I think they're
gonna be a major player this offseason. How could you not,
especially with all the moves they made. It they set
up perfectly to go ahead and and and start restocking
the shelves there. So yeah, I think they go after
it immediately. I don't think they want to go through
another year like this. I think Magic is ready to
go ahead and and start and start rebuilding. And and
(01:08:42):
by the way, am I the the only one that noticed
that Rob Poinka looks just like Rob Lower? Nobody notices
that that's been out there for a while. I don't know.
I don't know if you guys know that, all right, Yeah, yeah,
that's been brought up. I think that's been a regular thing.
This is crazy. Bubbo might have to hit the delay
or or he might get mad at me. I kind
of I kind of dig the Lakers. I know that
they're not a championship team. I know they're not going
to make the playoffs. I know that they're you know,
(01:09:05):
nine games under five hundred right now, but I mean
they've kind of been fun to watch and and it's
been a while since you could say that about the Lakers.
You you can kind of see the future a little bit.
Call me crazy, but I dig the development you're seeing
from brandon Ingram. I know that Lonzo has been hurt
for a while and hasn't been a part of the mix,
but I kind of like the idea of a veteran
like Isaiah Thomas with this group, I don't know if
(01:09:27):
the long term future includes Randall or not, but I
kind of I like the way that the pieces are
fitting together, and I know that it could all be
shot to you know what if you're bringing up Paul
George and a and A Lebron James. But this seems
crazy for someone who has loved the Lakers since birth,
a team that regularly is fighting for the one or
two seed, Yet here they are at what eleventh in
(01:09:49):
the West right now, not near the playoffs, and I'm
and I'm talking about really digging what they're doing is
is this basically the explanation that I could give it.
If you're starving and they give you a crack her
and it's the greatest cracker you've ever had. Is that
what's happening right now? The Lakers actually win in a
few games. Because I was just about the man I
was about to be sarcastico. Yeah, it just reminds me
of the magic days and and Kobe and Shack Boy.
(01:10:11):
That's the that's what. Yeah, that just like that, you
know what I mean? You know, but if you if
if you hold everything to that you're always gonna be miserable.
I know, but I mean, come on, now, look, I
understand that they're getting better, but they're so far from
whether it being I was gonna ask John cananis, could
you imagine what happens if the Lakers do get Lebron
and Paul George or whoever, and they become a force
(01:10:32):
in the in the Western Conference? Can you imagine that
rivalry between the Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. How
great is that gonna be? Oh, it's gonna be amazing.
But I'll tell you what, the more I watched Paul George,
the more I don't think he's going anywhere. And again,
I'm in Oklahoma, so maybe there's a hint of Homerism,
because I think it's I think it's good for this city.
(01:10:55):
I think Durance a little bit of a different story,
though he was saying all the right things too. At
this point, you know, Durant was saying, yeah, I'm you know,
we'll wait till the end of the season, but I
don't foresee going anywhere else. And that's kind of what
Paul George has said. They both used the brotherhood and
and however one's together, but I don't. I don't know.
I kind of get the sense that MS this might
be a little bit different. Um, I I kind of
(01:11:16):
get a kick out of this. Uh Eddie hit us
up on Twitter. What's your take on the Clippers trade Aarnie,
I say the Clippers are getting the best of the
trade after seeing Harris play a few games, not bad.
Isn't that funny that they didn't they just tell Blake
like six months ago, we're never gonna get rid of you,
were like retiring the number, and we're you're you're Mr
l A and and you know we're gonna change your
(01:11:37):
name to the to the l A uh Griffs or something.
I mean, it's amazing how you fall out of favors
so quickly with them. Yeah, Tobias Harris has been a
nice edition to the Los Angeles Clippers. They're battling for
that eight seed right now. I I don't know what
they're playing. Is The reports during the day yesterday and
for most of today was that they were close to
a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers for DeAndre Jordan's But
(01:11:59):
I'm mean, I don't know what his future looks like
with the Los Angeles long term but I mean, now
you're talking if the Cavaliers get DeAndre Jordan's, Now that's
a whole another story there, Chris Well. I mean, of
course it is. You throw DeAndre Jordan there with Rodney
Hood and George Hill and Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance,
it's a much different story. But who knows if those
guys would have been part of the ill if they
(01:12:20):
get DeAndre Jordan. What if they weren't able to move
by Isaiah Thomas and it's Lebron Isaiah and DeAndre Jordan's,
it might not work. It might not be a situation
that works at all. And then uh one one more tweet.
Because everyone has to have a political component to everything
we do in the sports world, James writes, the Jimmy
G contract is about as stupid as the Nobel Committee
(01:12:43):
giving Gore and Obama the prize without doing anything. Listen,
it's the NFL, man, This is the way you do
business now when you would draft a quarterback number one
or number two. Overall, we gave these guys ridiculous contracts
for years and years and years, and they finally changed that.
Jimmy G's a guy that's paid his dues as a
(01:13:04):
backup when given the opportunity with the Niners showed out.
At least he's shown something on the field, Arenie, I
dig saying this is who we are, this is who
we're going with. Let's pay him. I'll take this any
day over giving no offense to my guy, Sam Bradford
sixty mill before even steps on the field. If this
was like a big time running back that had five
(01:13:24):
good games, how much would his contract be? Uh? Well,
I don't know if it would be near this what
not even close? Not even not even close that number.
So again you can act outraged, oh you want, but
for goodness sakes, we've given guys who have never stepped
on the field in an NFL game this kind of
money for years, Ja Marcus Russell, JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf.
(01:13:49):
Uh we could go down the list of top five
quarterbacks that were given these kinds of deals and never
panned out. Who knows if Jimmy Garoppolo is going to
lead San Francisco back to the Promised Land. But this
is the going rate when you find a quarterback that's
going to lead your franchise. I don't understand the frustration.
What would your rather they do bring back Brian Hoyer,
(01:14:10):
go out and and and have the kid from Iowa
start for him. Pay the man his money, and they did,
and I think it's gonna work out well for him. Now,
when we come back to the Gey go Fox Sports
Radio Studios, Arnie steven Saker is gonna slide in and
get us caught up on everything we've missed and we'll
go in depth on some Olympic talk next with Annie
and Plank on a Fox Sports Sunday. Progressive New Home
(01:14:33):
Quote Explorer was built to save you time and money
by allowing you to compare multiple quote options all online.
So head to Progressive dot com today and see if
you can save with Arnie spand your arm. Chris Plank
your tweets coming up next hour, so keep him coming
at Stinking Genius one if I could speak s C
I and K I N genius and the number one,
(01:14:54):
I'm at Plank Show and everybody should be following us
at Fox Sports Radio. The Twitter lists Steve to Seger
strolls into studio as he does every Sunday night at
this hour to talk at this time, to talk a
little bit about everything we've missed so far. What's going on, Steve, Well,
we'll get to NBA in a moment. Does anyone know
which country is leading the metal count in South Korea
with the winner Olympics so far. Um, I'm going to
(01:15:17):
go out on a limb and guess Germany. No, they're
doing okay, the Russians. I looked at out. The Russians
have two medals. We have four now Germany has four,
but with eight now after sweeping men's ski athlon today
it's Norway. Norway has double the medals of Germany and
the US so far early in the games. And if
(01:15:39):
you're wondering, yes, I was gonna see my quick Google
search gave me the leaders in gold medals, so I
was close to seger but I cheated like crazy. Let's
just be honest if you're wondering why networks spends so
much for NFL rights or World Cup or Olympics. The
ratings are out for last night's Prime Time TV and
(01:16:01):
ABC's NBA game. Last night was Golden State San Antonio,
opposite the Olympics. NBA got under three million, the Olympics
got over twenty three million. So if you're so when
people say, like with the NFL stuff the past few months. Ah,
the ratings are down. It's still kills everything else. Yes,
(01:16:21):
the Olympic ratings are down compared to four years ago.
It still kills everything else. And I must say that
here in the West, the western half of the U S,
they're actually showing the Olympics live now. They used to
tape delay everything so it would be in prime time.
Now they show it at five pm Pacific time, and
then they'll just replay it at eight or eight thirty
Pacific time. Do you know that it's mostly Pacific time
(01:16:44):
zone and Mountain time zone cities that are leading in
Olympic ratings so far? Now? Granted, the states like Colorado, Utah,
California supply a lot of the athletes for the Winter Games,
but it's mostly Western half cities that are the top
rated city's for Olympics on NBC. One of the rare cities,
by the way, in the top ten, not in those
(01:17:05):
two time zones, Tulsa, Oklahoma doing very well. Hell yeah,
Tulsa has about the same rating as l A and
the top ten. As far as so many people watching
the Olympics, as far as the Paul Pierce mentioned from
earlier in the show, and this is a guy who
averaged twenty points a game for a very long career
and then we get my wheelchair. Sorry, uh yet that
(01:17:25):
that did rub me the wrong way. It still does
from the finals, the diva aspect of it all. But
for fifteen seasons with Boston it was twenty two points
a game in that uniform. I looked up his draft class,
Paul Pierce from Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Clippers
were drafting number one overall. Pierce went number ten overall.
In that first round. Clippers took Michael Oloa Candy Pacific
(01:17:50):
from the University of Pacific, and the story, as I recall, was,
he was from Africa and he chose University of Pacific
for college basketball because he thought it would be like
on the Pacific Post where you could go to the beach.
It's actually it's in Stockton. It's about a hundred miles
inland from the Bay Area. So good luck with that.
But Vince Carter Antoine Jamison from North Carolina were top
(01:18:10):
ten of that draft. Dirk Navitsky, who's still playing the
greatest Dallas Maverick ever, was drafted right before Paul Pierce,
number nine over all that year. How did Dallas get
Dirk Navitsky trade with Milwaukee? Milwaukee said, we'll take that
Navitsky guy for you if you draft Robert Trailer for us.
And we will remember Robert Tractor from Michigan, guy who
(01:18:34):
was three hundred pounds and at least that after his
playing career and is already dead of a heart attack
years ago. And that's who you traded away. Uh, traded
Dirk Nevitsky away four Dallas and Milwaukee. Oh my gosh,
I had no idea that the tractor had passed away
in two thousand and eleven. How did I miss this
(01:18:56):
story this year? You weren't kidding? Uh? In the Eastern Conference,
the Raptors have won five in a row, while the
Celtics got killed at home today, So the Raptors are
up by a half game in the standings over the Celtics.
Utah one it's ninth straight. Houston won it's eighth in
a row. The Rockets a half game behind Golden State
for best overall record. Houston continues to throw up the
(01:19:16):
three pointers. Whether they make them or not, they're shooting them.
In tonight's forty eight minute game, Houston was thirteen forty
five long distance. They beat Dallas one oh four to nine.
Seven college basketball, A guy who could be number one
overall draft pick this summer, Marvin Bagley of Dukes sat
out with a mild niche brain. Ninth rank Duke still
won at Georgia Tech eighty to sixty nine. Bagley leads
(01:19:39):
the a c C and scoring at twenty one points
a game, and the Cincinnati Bearcats won their sixteenth game
in a row. They are ranked sixth in the country.
Cincinnati is twelve and oh in the American Conference after
winning easily at SMU, Michigan dominated at Wisconsin and as
anybody noticed pitt Panthers basketball what they're doing this year
(01:20:00):
or not doing this year? Unranked Louisville went in there
and one at pitt ninety four to sixty. Today Pittsburgh
is oh and thirteen in the a s C. Oregon
beat Washington State. Wazoo is one and eleven in its conference,
and Vermont in the America East eleven and oh. Now
after beating dreaded, you masked Luell by the way, I
(01:20:20):
used the dreaded adjective for the golf winner today at
Pebble Beach, Ted Potter Jr. I had looked up his
background earlier, and first off, I see a guy who's
five ten log and two d pounds around the course.
So it just continues to prove the golfers are not athletes.
The guy who you can be the best in the
world at this boart and not be an athlete. The
guy who tied for second, Phil Nicholson, You and I
(01:20:41):
both know cannot run from green to tea or or
reverse of that without stopping. Ted Potter Jr. Had stepped
off a curb a few years ago and broke his
ankle and missed two years of golf, so he deserves
to be emotional after the win. And he also did
win one point three million dollars by taking Pebble Beach today.
(01:21:04):
That's why I'd be emotional. I'm still trying to get
over that Robert tractor trailer is Dad. That's Steve Disager.
When we come back, we got a lot of college
basketball to get into, plus will continue to debate these
trades by the Calves. Next with Arnie and Plank on
Fox All Right. Final Hour from the getic Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fift or more.
(01:21:25):
On Car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a free
rate quote with Arnie spani I'm Chris Plank. We have
a lot to get to in our final hour. I'm
a lot of good Twitter stuff. I'm still trying to
get over the loss of Robert tractor trailer some eight
years ago. Now, I had no idea. It's one of
those stories to where I was. I was joking with
Bobo and Eric during the top of the hour Arnie
(01:21:48):
during the top of the hour, I don't hear from anybody.
I was ready to tell Disagre how wrong he was.
I was like, dude, Robert tractor trailer didn't Oh my gosh, heleven.
So I learned something on tonight's show. We have thirty
more Sundays until the NFL so you can start your
countdown clock now, but only ten more shows until the
NFL Draft. So we'll talk a little NFL Draft this hour.
(01:22:12):
But it seems look at you, Look at you just
sneaking that in there speaking you love the NFL Draft.
Who would you rather have right now as your quarterback?
Would you rather say, make a deal with Philadelphia and
bring in one, Oh, I don't know, Nick Foles, or
would you want to draft to Sam Donald, Josh Rosen,
Baker Mayfield or Josh Allen. I want to lead your franchise.
(01:22:33):
I probably want to take Donald to Rosen before I
take falls. That would be my order. Donald Rosen folds
Baker Mayfield, and I guess too. More than anything else,
Arenie it. It has a lot to do with where
you are as a franchise. I mean, Cleveland no fence
Browns fans. But I don't think you're set up to
win next year. I think this is a process right
right now. I want to you brought up Baker Mayfield.
(01:22:55):
I just had a quick question to ask you because
this was a story that was bothering me. And I'm
just gonna throw it on you. Chris, you you. I
was gonna say, cover Oklahomas soon as football. You're a
part of the broadcast, You cover the team. You get
information if Baker Mayfield, god forbid not Wood got hurt, right,
and we weren't sure if he was coming back in
the second game, the third game, the fourth game, right?
(01:23:16):
Is it your job to keep us updated on his
injury report? And the reason I bring that up is
did you see the rift between uh Well wasn't Marquel, folks,
it was what's his face? Is his teammate saying, hey,
leave the kid alone. I guess a lot of reporters
are trying to get video, and I guess he was
air bowling shots inside the key. Is that our business
(01:23:38):
to constantly hound the kid? Or do we back off
and say let him rehab in private. He's in Philly, man,
that's not a town to where you get a lot
of breathing room for goodness sakes, No, but I can
some people say it's it's wrong for the media to
not let the guy work out and just get his
shots up. I mean, so, I guess everything goes then,
is what you're telling me that Unfortunately in today's I
(01:24:00):
d all right, let's let's let's just let's play hypothetical here,
because I I haven't really been following this story is
as much as some others have. A J. J. Reddick
is the guy you were referring to that said, hey,
the kids bleeping nineteen whenever you had people that were
filming him during a shoot around. J. J. Reddick. JJ Redick,
(01:24:20):
it's annoying. The guy's nineteen. He's working his backside off.
I understand fans want to see his progress, but this
is maybe going to be a longer process than we
all hoped for. I don't get the coming in here
every day to like watch him shoot pull up jumpers.
It's a little obsessive. We want to see him back
on the court doing what he loves to do. I mean,
(01:24:40):
they moved up to get him, and and I think
when you move up to get a guy number one,
and you've had the disappointment with the embat injury than
the Ben Simmons injury, you've been waiting for this process
to play out. I completely get it. But already, even
even if it's not say channels, I don't know what
channels they have in Philadelphia, but the Channel six news
crew in there, there's gonna be some dude filming in
(01:25:01):
with this. It's gonna go viral anymore. So I don't
really know if there's a such thing as privacy when
it comes to that anymore. You're probably right, But can
you imagine if I said or not if I said,
if if the colt said, hey, tomorrow, on Monday, Andrew
walk is gonna be throwing the football so you can
see his arm straight, how many people you think would
show up to that. Oh my god, how many people
(01:25:23):
do you what do you think all talk shows would
be talking about to about Andrew Luck? Absolutely so, I mean,
I guess we could look at because if, if, if
people wanted to see him through, they'd be like hiding
into the bleachers to see just to get a glimpse
of what the guy can do. Now, one other story,
but I I hear, I see what you're getting at,
and I think this is gonna be a real intriguing
(01:25:44):
story to follow. The NBA, thankfully, has had some other
big issues like the Calves taking over the trade deadline,
Isaiah tom is finding his role with the Lakers, maybe
Rust Westbrook's injury being more severe than the thunder are
are basically making it out right now. But Arnie, we're
talking about the number one pick in the draft right
now and Marquel Folks not being able to shoot the
damn basketball. I think that's a major story. Um. But
(01:26:07):
another major story is one in your neck of the Nape,
Nape of the Woods, and that involves Christian for you,
I was not familiar with this story involving the agent
for Tom Brady, don yee. What's been the feedback to
this and what exactly. It's two different stories here on
Ron Borges, the writer from the local paper up here
(01:26:28):
in the Boston area, where he thought he was talking, uh,
texting back and forth to Don Yee, when it really
was just a caller like one of our callers into
the show, or like one of Mallard's militia's like the
mall or Mason or whatever his name is, or somebody
like that, just texting you and and you think you
have the right information. He thought he was texting Don
(01:26:49):
ye and it was going back and forth. Don. He said, hey,
run with it. Uh, Brady may hold out O t
A s because he's upset that Garoppolo is getting all
that money. And he was back up there. I mean,
it seemed like believable. He did say, um, numerous sources,
which isn't true. He only had one source and that
source wasn't correct. I don't know if I can hold
his feet to the fire. He's done this before, but
a long time ago, ten years ago, he had I
(01:27:11):
guess he had, Yeah, run board just did. But overall,
you know, I guess you're supposed to do your homework.
But I mean, come on, now, somebody is just you know,
you think you've got inside scoop, so you ran with it.
You know what I'm saying, Chris, do you always get
double um? You know here, let's rewind here. Ron Borges
(01:27:32):
was texting with some of that. He thought was Don yees.
You know what you're saying, okay, because you had first
had made it sound like it was Don Knee texting. No,
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It was a It was a
listener from uh one of the local radio stations actually texting. So,
in other words, he kind of got catfished, just this
rider did Boston got catfished? So is that where this
whole story started with Brady being upset about the deal?
(01:27:55):
That that's where starting He was never upset. Yeah, So
but see here, let let me let me stop right there.
This shows you how powerful something like this can be.
All right, let's pause for a moment. Here. How many
people as we come to you live from the guy
called Fox Sports Radio Studios, Arnie? Well here, Wow, I
(01:28:18):
saw in the I don't know which paper it was.
That's why I don't read the onion anymore, but go ahead.
I saw in the onion that Tom Brady is upset
about Garoppolos deal, and he might hold out, WHOA, that's crazy.
Well it becomes telephone tele a friend and and suddenly
gets spread around or like the fake Woes Twitter account
or something like that. But I guess does anyone even
(01:28:39):
really stop to say, really, let's dig in that a
little bit. It's almost one of those I use this
analogy a lot because I think it works. The toothpaste
is out of the tube. You ever try to put
tooth paste back in the tube. It doesn't work. So
we find out because Annie, you live in Boston, in
the Boston area, I guess I should say, so you
hear this that, Oh my gosh, this dude got fished
(01:29:00):
on his story by a fan and then the next
thing you know, they're having to backtrack a little bit.
But is anyone else across the country into this. No,
we have so much fake news out there nowadays that
you really don't even know until you do. Yeah, And
no one's gonna do the research because that involves more
(01:29:21):
than just reading a two d and eight character tweet
or the headline. That's all we want to do. So anyway,
and fished, Yeah, you mentioned christian Um, your fourier, the
former tight end. I believe of the Patriots did an
unflattering imitation of Don yee um, and I don't even
want to get into it. And he's been suspended by
(01:29:42):
the station, so um, things got kind of crazy out here,
you know, and he straight out took responsibility for that,
and I'm just wondering, you know, you know, where does
it you know, where's the line now in sports radio
because we used to be able to get away with
a lot of stuff. Now they are really holding your
feet to the five. Yeah, I think the line has
been drawn on basically making fun of anything there that
(01:30:05):
that's kind of where outside of Arnie span yours picks,
you cannot make fun of anything anymore. Oh my gosh,
Arnie the Boston Harold had to send out a uh,
I don't want to apology, but a statement on the
track story. Oh my gosh, and they suspended him. I
don't know if he's gonna be fired ever work again,
but um, yeah, it was. It was. It was a
(01:30:26):
pretty harsh thing for them. They were they people were
ripping them locally, so you know, it was a big
thing locally about that. I can't believe I absolutely missed
that over the weekend. I'm so caught up in stupid
draft talk right now, story story. I don't know. I listen.
I don't live in the Boston media cyclone that exists,
(01:30:47):
and I'm fascinated by it. I'm glad I don't. It's
it's incredibly competitive. It's something that we all watch and
kind of marvel at, from the newspaper to the two
sports radio stations. But whenever you see somebody who has
been described as is maybe someone that likes himself a
little bit that makes a mistake like this, oh my gosh,
(01:31:09):
how can you? How can you let that happ Don't
you have to at least check with two or three
other people. If you can't, you call his office and
speak to him personally. Now, in his defense a little bit,
he decided to pick up the phone and he spoke
to the caller. But I would know if I was
speaking to Don Yee or I was I was speaking
to you. You know what, I don't know what Don
Yhee sounds like to be. I mean, I may have
(01:31:30):
heard about a sound bite here or there, but you know,
you're on a phone, you're driving, you got the speaker
phone on. Who knows what you're talking to Well, let's
get to the core of this. Do you really think
Tom Brady cares about Jimmy Garoppolo's contract? Well, if I
put myself in Tom Brady's position, I would say yes, sure,
of course, I would think. I would think I'd be
insulted that I'm making half or you know what's he
(01:31:52):
making about fifteen million a year or something like that.
Let me look real quick, I imagine it would be
in that are I think he's making like fifteen million.
You see Garoppolo with this type of contract, and he
was and he was Brady's back up. Yeah, I'd be
a little sore over the whole thing too. And like
I said, I'd be sore if I was Ben Roethlisberger,
Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, any of those quarterbacks that have
been around for a while that have established themselves. Brady
(01:32:14):
and eighteen is due to make right around fourteen mill
That's like the biggest bargain in sports, right up with
Winston and and and falls. It's he does have a
seven million dollars signing bonus, so that and I'm sure
that's been amortized out, so the actual capit is twenty
two million. You know what's real interesting, My gosh, I
I did not realize this. Brady hasn't out in his
(01:32:35):
contract in twenty nineteen. Now again, he'll be forty one
years old. But with everything that's been talked about involving
the Patriots, could you imagine let's say they I don't
want to say they struggle, but let's say they fall
short of the super Bowl and he's got an out.
I think that would be interesting. Never you punt on
(01:32:57):
Belichick before you pun on Brady, or you move on
in another direction, before you ever let him leave you.
I'm gonna tell you this right now, in case you
don't know this, Belichick is gonna retire before Brady does. Hey,
you're probably right. I can't argue with that one too much.
Tom Brady. By the way, two years, forty one million
dollar deal that has that out by nineteen fourteen mill
this year, fourteen mill next year, and Jimmy g just
(01:33:19):
got paid. So I can understand where you would think
and get sucked in by believing there. And they have
the same agent too, So that's that's gotta make Brady
a little upset when you think it's both Don Ye
is his agent and Jimmy Garoppolo's agent. But you're saying,
as we reset from Super Bowl Sunday a little bit,
you're saying, the fallout hasn't necessarily been as negative or
(01:33:40):
as bad as you thought from the Patriots losing on
Sunday or about what you expected. I I don't. I
don't think it was a big fall I said, for once,
I'm questioning Bill Belichick because of what happened with Malcolm Butler,
and he's not giving us an explanation. But I'm not
questioning anything else. I mean, really, what could you do
if you're the Patriots? Uh? Yeah, you could have started Butler?
I mean, uh, what's his face? Brady was through for
(01:34:02):
five hundred yards, so you can't blame him. The offense
look good. They just had trouble stopping that Philadelphia offense.
So now there's there's no hard feelings. They just got
beat by a better team. I saw one of the
funniest things this weekend where someone speculated that maybe Matt
Patricia was just a homeless guy that Bill Belichick gave
a job and he ended up like letting it go
a little bit too far, and he got the lion's job,
(01:34:23):
and he had to actually be like, Okay, hold on,
it's really just homeless dude I found. But now you
got ready your defensive corn. He trimmed his beard, he
got a hair cut, he put on a suit, he
didn't wear the Goodell Nose clown shirt, didn't do any
of that. It's it's like when you have a buddy
that gets a new girlfriend. Yeah, he's crazy. He never showers,
(01:34:45):
doesn't do anything but drank, never shaves, and then all
of a sudden you see him one day and he's
cleaned up and he's got a nice beer, Like, what's
going on. By the way, they asked him about that
shirt in the interview? Did they really as they did?
What did he say? I don't know the answer to that,
but I saw the I think it was on Pro
Football Talk that said or one of the websites that
said they did ask them about that shirt. I mean
(01:35:05):
that obviously I would have asked him about it. Also,
we have big news breaking out of San Francisco tonight
involving a current forty nine or will tell you about
it and get to the best tweets of the show
so far. Next at Tarney and Plank on a Fox
Sports Sunday, Arnie, can you name this band? Uh? No,
(01:35:27):
it's your boy Johnny Gil Didn't you know him? This
new addition? Cool it? Now? This is very popular. I
mean I wasn't born when this came out. We come
to Alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen
minutes could save more on car insurance with Arnie span
(01:35:48):
your I'm Chris Plank. We got a lot still to
get to and only forty five minutes to get their
big Ben Mallard coming up next. I can't get enough now.
I was not in on the that's two stories tonight
that I have missed out on. Number one. You never
I know, the Robert tractor trailer death. I was seven
years old. Are are seven years removed from that actually happening? Uh?
(01:36:09):
And then this Ron Borge's story out of Boston. And
I thought about this during the break and I posed
it to you. What if it was someone other than
Tom Brady, where say Borgeous or any reporter got bad information? Hey? Um,
Dion Lewis is saying that he wants a huge contract
(01:36:29):
and he's mad about the way things went with the
Patriots in the Super Bowl, so he's willing to test
the market. Blah blah blah. I'm sorry, willing to miss
miss Minicamp. Would you get suspended if it was Dion Lewis. No, No,
you could say the same thing about remember that uh
the talk show host in Boston that was suspended because
of what he said about Tom Brady's daughter. So, in
(01:36:51):
other words, this has everything to do about screwing up
a story about QB one and oh yeah, by the way,
maybe the greatest quarterback in NFL history. So crazy story
that started on Thursday night into Friday and has kind
of reached a zenith over the weekend with Don Yee,
Brady's agent, basically taking a sports talk radio to call
(01:37:15):
a report BS. So good on Don Yee, and you
know so many times anymore, aren't even I mean, come
on nine out attend people. Even if you were to
call in and say something might might lay out, well,
you know, I don't necessarily know if that's true. But
in this instance you actually have the proof to say, yeah,
it's not true. It was BS. So kudos did Don
(01:37:37):
ye for standing up to his guy. For this guy,
we have a lot to get you on Twitter. Let
me let me lay out this story that we teased
here on a busy Sunday night, breaking news out of
San Francisco. The I guess key to the future of
the forty Niners defense is in trouble again as Ruben
Foster was arrested this morning in Santa Clara on charges
(01:37:59):
related to domestic violence and possessing an assault rifle. He's
being held on seventy five thousand dollar bail, fifty dollars
for domestic violence in twenty five grand for the assault weapon. Arnie.
It's his second arrest and the last month, after being
popped from marijuana possession in Alabama on January twelve. He
(01:38:21):
also failed a drug test at the Combine last year,
and remember he was kicked out of the Combine a
three had an altercation with a hospital employee. When healthy,
he was considered to be one of the top rookie
middle linebackers in the NFL. And now you, I mean,
this was the knock on the guy was whether or
not you could keep him on the field. And lo
and behold, he's been arrested for the second time in
(01:38:42):
the past month. What a mess. Yeah, I don't need
that that type of person on my team, especially with
the domestic violence that's disgusting. I mean, if if you could,
I'd say cut him, but you know it can't. Uh,
you just can't do something like that. And I think
the punishment is what six games suspension usual for the
first defense. So I'm gonna be curious to see how
the NFL is going to handle this and how they're
(01:39:03):
how the punishment's gonna be handled down all right, So
here's how Dave Lombardi described it. He covers the San
Francisco forty niners. The first, the domestic violence, and last
assault weapons charges are wobblers, which means they can be
classified as either misdemeanors or felonies. The second, which is
(01:39:27):
a criminal threat, is a misdemeanor. So basically, he's kind
of at the mercy right now of whether or not
the d A decides to go after him for felonies.
You know, you root for everyone to be the best. Uh,
it's a wobbler charge right now, so in other words,
(01:39:47):
you can go either way. The first and the last
charges against him could be defined as either misdemeanors or felonies,
so it's depending on I guess in this instance, how
severe that it might have been. Is away I'm out al.
I just basically read everything I see on Twitter and
I take it as fact. Call me the Ron Borgists
of Fox Sports Radio, but I guess I want everyone
(01:40:09):
to be successful. I saw this story on Ruben Foster
in the combine and I thought to myself, I still
want my team to draft them because we need a
middle linebacker, by God. And now you kind of look
in you realize, oh, hey, maybe that was the best
case scenario, because if you're a Niners fan, this dude
did it all defensively this season, and now, because of
(01:40:33):
everything that everyone had talked about heading into the draft,
he might not even be eligible to play this season.
What a mess for San Francisco. Yeah, it's it's horrible.
And you know what, I don't know how you can
go ahead, and I mean, we got to hear more
about the case, so absolutely can't comment on now, but
domestic violence. The NFL obviously gonna come down hard on him,
or at least they should come down hard on him.
(01:40:55):
By the way, we joked about Dion Lewis, uh and
whether or not we'd be losing our minds if it
was a involving Dion Lewis or say Tom Brady. But
in all seriousness, do you see Dion Lewis as being
a guy that's gonna get paid this offseason and maybe
potentially be a franchise back. Not with the Patriots. He
won't Uh, don't let your door hit the don't let
the door hit your ass on the way out. They're
(01:41:16):
not gonna give him the money. I I said this
about the Patriots at the beginning of the year. When
you have five running backs, you don't have one running back. Um,
they did better than I thought, But no, they're not
gonna go ahead and open up the brings truck to him,
So goodbye. Anybody want a running back, there's one available
in your opinion, though in your opinion you need a
running back, the best running back available isn't gonna be available.
(01:41:38):
Levian bell Is either gonna get resigned by the Steelers
or are tagged in some way, shape or form. Does
see them become a guy worthy of a big contract. Say,
I'm just trying to think off the top of my head,
Oakland or inverse somewhere that needs a running back right now?
Are you willing to pay this guy to be your
every down back? No, because there's a lot of Uh,
running backs coming out in the draft this year's I
(01:41:59):
don't have the was the running backs in front of me.
But you know, I know you can get some late
in this in in the like the fifth, sixth round,
and you get some undrafted free agents. It's so deep
at at running back. Look at the running backs in
the Super Bowl, right. Uh, Dion Lewis was a third
round pick, like Garrett Blunt was undrafted. Rex Burkehead was
the sixth round. Pig j G I I think was
(01:42:19):
a fourth or fifth round pick. It's kind of that
Pete Prisco from CBS Sports his school of thinking, you
don't have to break the bank on a running back
or take a running back in the early rounds because
you can find a running back anywhere anymore, aren't he?
I I thought, you know, these running back from what
is at San Diego State was gonna be like a
fourth or fifth round pick. There's a lot of them
that you could take. It's so deep at the running
(01:42:40):
back position. Like I said, you don't even have to
draft that. You can go ahead. I mean, I'm not
talking about like a Barklay or somebody like that. Obviously
they're their first rounders. Uh, Sony Michelle out of Georgia.
You're not gonna get him unless you know obviously falls
to you. Even Johnson, the running back out of Auburn.
These are all first rounders, at least I believe Johnson.
It's it's the ones that come out. Wait wait, wait,
(01:43:03):
how many running backs do you have going in the
first round? Then? I think Carrie On, Johnson, and Sonny
Michelle our second round picks right now. I don't know
if we'll have a running back outside of sa Kwon
Barkley go in the first round. And you think Richard
Penny's gonna be a first round pick too. No, uh no,
I didn't say him. I said he could be. Yeah,
later on I had him went like in the fifth
or sixth round. I mean, you could take like a
Nick Chubb, who's gonna be a second or third round selection.
(01:43:25):
You can take somebody like him. The kid out of
NC State, Samuel's is gonna be like a second or
third round selection. You could take him. Um. There was
a few others I mentioned, the one out of San Diego.
No Freeman, the running back out of Oregon is gonna
be a third or fourth round selection, which we are
a good pick to take him in that situation. Well,
I'll say this, I think there's gonna be one for
(01:43:46):
sure running back that goes in the first round, and
I think it's gonna be sae Kwon Barkley. Then I
think you have a bevy of guys who could go
early in the second round, Sony, Michelle, carry on Johnson,
as you mentioned Darius, Guys, the kid out of l
s U, Ronald Jones out of USC, You mentioned Nick Chubb,
You like Jalen Samuels as well. Um, I really like
Royce Freeman, you brought him up, and Josh Adams, a
(01:44:08):
kid out of Notre Dame. So you know you don't
have to kill yourself in the first round. But with
that set before we bring to sagre in here, if
you say have a need at linebacker and you're sitting
at eight, nine and ten, are you have a need
at offensive tackle and somehow se Kwon Barkley falls to you,
you gotta take him first. Yeah. I don't know how
(01:44:30):
he's gonna fall though. I I don't know how that's possible.
I don't see him fallowing. Was there's something that we
didn't realize about him that came out well, I think
it'd be very easy if he could fall in the draft,
because you could have quarterbacks that could go with three
of the top five teams, and then you decide to
show up your defense with a Mika Fitzpatrick or Bradley Chubb,
or you get your offensive lineman and quit Nelson. Aren't.
(01:44:51):
There's a lot of buzz building from some of the
NFL dot com guys that he could drop a little bit,
maybe seven, eight or nine. Okay, I thought you meant
like dropped to the end of the first what you're
talking about now, No, you're you're looking at a guy
that's projected right now is a top three pick. But
some are saying, now he could fall down to the
latter part of the seven, eight and nine slots, And
if San Francisco is there and there they've got a
(01:45:13):
decision to make on maybe they go out and get him.
Maybe the Raiders, who have a decision to make on
Marshawn Lynch might go out and take him. So I
think it's gonna be real interesting to see what happens
with se Kwon Barkley as we get closer to the
NFL Draft, which, by the way, only ten more shows
to the NFL Draft. All right, Steve de Seger is
sliding into the Geico Fox Sports radio studios with everything
that we've missed so far in the world of sports.
(01:45:36):
And that San Diego State running back is Rashad Penny.
And my assumption is that the Oregon and USC running
backs will be taken before him, and both Georgia running backs.
So what what round is he supposed to go into
third or fourth? I think, yeah, I think I don't know.
To Sega, you can disagree he has power, but this
is not some six two runner either. So but they say,
(01:45:57):
I'm talking about people in San Diego, Oh yeah, much
better than Humphries, much better pro than Humphries. And you know,
you barely saw Humphries this past year from San Diego State.
And as far as need Chris last year, I looked
it up the first round NFL Draft last year, nobody
in the top ten of the first round was taken
a corner. And so when the Saints finally took a corner,
they drafted the rookie of the year. So, you know,
(01:46:18):
talent is talent. Maybe you have a corner, but if
the guy is gonna be that good, I'm talking about
Marshaw and Lattimore. Go get him, Yeah, exactly. As far
as the Colts, they have a new head coach officially today,
Frank Reich. He was the Eagles offensive coordinator. He reportedly
gets a five year deal. Josh McDaniels had backed out
of the job this past week, so Reich interviewed with
India on Friday news conference with him coming up on Tuesday.
(01:46:40):
Pictures and catchers start reporting to spring training by this Tuesday.
Major League exhibitions begin February Opening Day. Opening Day is
in March this year. March. Alex Bowman in the poll
for the Daytona five hundred. The five hundred will be
on Fox TV a week from today. Bowman is driving
Dale Junior's old card number eighty eight. Denny Hamlin qualified second.
(01:47:01):
Brad Keselowski won the Clash at Daytona, the exhibition kickoff
to the NASCAR season. Joey Logano finished second. Today, Golf
Pebble Beach Pro Am was won by Ted Potter Jr.
Serena Williams had her first competitive times since giving birth
with complications back in September. They had Serena and her
sister Venus as the USA doubles team in the FED
(01:47:22):
Cup in North Carolina. Yeah, they got swept by Netherlands
six to six. Three Federations Cup is like they have
the Davis Cup for men, Fed Cup for women. So already.
Venus had won in singles today to clinch the American
spot in the Semis in April at France, but Serena
was at least on the court winner Olympics at South Korea.
The women's giant slalom was postponed to Wednesday due to
(01:47:43):
high wins. US took bronze in the team skating event.
Jamie Anderson of the US repeated as gold medalist in
snowboard slope style. NHL wins for Boston, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.
College basketball victories in the top ten for Cincinnati and
Duke and Idly. In the NBA, Boston got killed at
home by Cleveland, while Toronto won it's fifth in a row,
(01:48:05):
Houston won it's eighth straight, and Utah with its ninth
consecutive win. Back to you, all right, thanks a lot, Steve.
We come to you from the Getico Fox Sports Radio studios.
It's easy to say fift or more on car insurance
with Geico Go to Geico dot Com or called eight
seven auto. The only hard part figuring out which way
is easier. By the way, um, do you have I
(01:48:26):
don't know if Bobo has sounded this. That did Paul
Robert Parish ever apologize for saying Paul Pierce was better
than Larry Bird on offense? Did he say that? Or
you didn't see that story? Yes? Yes, how could you
miss that one? Could you? But people act you are
agreed with him? Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah yeah. So
earlier today Paul Pierce was described as the best offensive
(01:48:50):
player in Celtics. Sister, I actually have the audio here.
Robert Parish doesn't customist, does he? Arny? I don't know,
so problems that can dump it? I guess all right,
So here we go. This was Robert Parrish explaining why
he thinks Paul Pierre And by the way, this is
(01:49:10):
again the magnification that Arnie is all in on Boston
sports right now better than Bird? Have the check Phil Russell, Well,
I just feel like Creed he was a better school.
Uh then sat Larry on John Hava Jack. I think
Hama Chicken and Larry and problems of the deserted their
(01:49:35):
main and I think Paul tough that list in my opinion,
So basically Robert Parrish giving Paul the credit for being
more creative. And I understand what he was doing. They're
retiring his number, and obviously he's saying stuff. But let's
be honest. If he's just doing an interview, it they're
not retiring Paul Pierces number. He didn't say anything like that,
(01:49:56):
because that's just foolish. Here is foolish, isn't it. You're
turning this into a Boston talk show now because you
brought up the Donny. You've talked about Tom Brady and
Ron Borgis tonight, we've debated Dion Lewis. When you send me,
when you send me text for what you want to
talk about, it's about christian for you. And now we're
(01:50:17):
getting into this. Robert Parrish saga, ARNI, you have become
one of them. Stop you just walk around and go
one of us, one of us. That's all good. I
just feel like Paul was more creative. If you couldn't
hear the sound bite is what Robert Parrish said, he
was a better score than Larry and John halet Check.
I think that Larry and John hale Check and Paul
(01:50:39):
were the best offensive players that the Celtics ever had.
I think Paul tops that list in my Wow, come on,
that's ridiculous. I'll see some of the tweets of the
night at Stinking Genius want s T I and k
I N Genius In the number one I'm at Plank Show.
Once a fraud, always a fraud, writes Eddie. Don't let
Boorgeous all the hook? Is that kind of the thought
(01:51:02):
about I don't know if I'm gonna hold his feet
to the fire on this one. To be honest with you,
you know, I don't know. When I was working in
Los Angeles, I got a call from a uh was
either a GIM or assistant GIM, I'm not even sure
at the time, and I knew him and I could
tell as my phone was ringing um or it came
out on the phone call excuse me who it was?
(01:51:22):
And he's I want to tell you something. We made
a trade and this is who we traded, this is
who we got. And I'm like, okay, I'll run with it.
And I never decided to look for a second source
or anything like that. It turned out to be true,
But should I have to look for a second source
when like an assistant general matter general manager calls me
up if he trust him, No, if it's a guy
you know not at all. But if you don't know
(01:51:45):
for sure lying to me, then uh, how about this?
If someone calls me and says, hey, Chris, it's Arnie.
I have a pretty good feeling that our show is
getting moved to here, and blah blah blah. Well, I
know what you sound like. I I I've heard you talk.
I would I would probably call you back after we
hung up if you came from like an unidentified number
(01:52:06):
or something like, dude, did you just call me and
say this? I feel like this. This is a magnification
of not necessarily the writer's fault, but the media anymore.
You've got to have the most over the top ridiculous
story to get clicks and attention, So you're not gonna
source it? Do you have to? Well know if you
trust the dude that's telling you. But if you just
(01:52:28):
I mean, we know you can tell. I can tell
of the people I regularly communicate with if I'm being
I guess bamboozled would be the word. And I just
think he was more about trying to make headlines than
he was about getting it right. What about the people
that said that McDaniels was going to the cults? They
were wrong? Right, they were wrong? Do they get hold
(01:52:49):
of their feet to the fire on that or no?
Well I think in that instant, Now go ahead. Are
you really trying to compare a guy that went off
one source and a story that basically a team how
the story? But they're both wrong? You I mean you
you can report that he was maybe going to the
(01:53:10):
culture as soon as he signs a deal or something
like that, But I mean, the wrong is wrong? Is
it not? Can't be partially? Jaywalking and murder are both wrong,
but do we hold them to the same level? Jerry rights,
If the US Olympic Committee doesn't have enough problems with
the women's gymnastic situation, now the Olympic coin is racist
(01:53:31):
for not falling properly. I haven't seen this yet. Quit
making up stories, Jerry, Arnie, you're safe saying you would
quit as much as many would welcome. The Cleveland Lebrons
absolutely will not win the championship this year. Of speaking
of which, Arnie, which of your six NBA teams do
you want to win it? Hashtag don't quit Arnie. I'm
(01:53:52):
still going with my New York Knicks, Chris, but I'm
getting a feeling that's looking more and more like a
long shot. Uh. And of course my lay Lakers aren't
looking real good right now, so I'm gonna have to
stick with my Golden State Warriors, my Houston Rockets, and
my Boston By the way, Jerry's point was the coin flip,
so I apologize not the actual coin, the flip of
(01:54:15):
the coin. But I do like the hashtag don't quit Arnie.
Everyone should used it. Hey, you might want to check
the Super Bowl podcast rights Eddie, because with about two
minutes left in the game, Arnie changed his prediction and
said the Patriots would win after the Eagles didn't get
a pass interference, calling their last TD hashtag still the
(01:54:35):
kod remember that. I don't remember that, Chris, do you?
I don't and I uh I sat here with you
for five hours during that game, and one more here.
That was the quickest five hours ever. It was a
great game. That's what happens when you get a great game.
If it was fifty zero, it might be a different story. Uh.
And then Matt writes, I can't believe you guys having
(01:54:57):
broke down how important it is for the Heat to
bring back d Wade. Love it. That's so tongue in
cheek it's not even funny, uh it's And it's also
it's kind of hilarious how everything else is shedding talent
and moving on in another direction and Dwyane Wade moving
on is just all we wanted to do right by him.
I mean, I just made no sense to me whatsoever.
(01:55:20):
And Lebron celebrating the fact that he's able to go
back to Miami, that blew my mom. Did you see
the highlights of when Lebron made the game winner before
all the trades and he wouldn't give Isaiah high five
or anything like that? I mean, you knew right there,
you know this is done. I was laughing at that.
We were brought to you by Granger the products and
services you need when you need them. Granger's got your
(01:55:42):
back to help you keep your facility running. Granger for
the ones who get it done. It's time for arnies.
What the heck am I gonna make picks on? Now?
We don't have any football? Well, you got about three
minutes to figure it out, so you better come up
with something. It's got a couple of things on a
Fox Sports Sunday. I don't want the night to get
away from us without thanking the crew, the entire editing
(01:56:06):
crew in the background, that we completely ignored all their
hard work tonight, but we appreciate it. What hard work.
We didn't play cut I mean they've been Artie, they're
back there getting audio. Thanks to Bobo for running the show.
Thanks hold hold, hold hold on, hold on, hold on
real talk brot stop stop stop stop. You cannot be
(01:56:29):
little what the editors doing the back bro. No, but
they get, don't they get? Don't they get the tape
for the shows before me? So it's not like they
have to cut up each tape seven different times. They
got to cut up each game, every every game everything.
You know what it is now The Chris Plan Show.
Chris Is Thanks to Eric Roberts for producing this show,
(01:56:51):
and thanks to you guys for listening in tonight. Artie's
picks coming up in just a bit. Great news. There's
a quick way you can save money. Switched to Geico
go guy dot com and in fifteen minutes you could
say or more on car insurance. There was there was
one more yeah, I turned it back. There was one
more tweet I wanted to get too real quick and
I had to laugh at this. Arnie Mike rights Laker
(01:57:13):
fans don't want l bum He's a cancer like stinking
genius one which Arnie is in a cancer West l
a sports radio and we got him out of town. Wow.
Anyone who's saying that you don't want Lebron James is
either crazy or more happy with where the Lakers are
right now than I am, which apparely should be happy.
(01:57:34):
If you're the Lakers, you're nuts to say that. If
you're Golden State. I mean that report was focused anyway,
But you don't want Lebron? You know what I did,
Like what John Cannon said, I I think that was
another one of those situations where someone saw an opportunity
to throw something out there that would get a lot
of attention. So what did they do? They absolutely ran
with You don't you don't think it was like a
(01:57:56):
Lebron camp leaking it out just to see what would
happen to you just think it was like a bogus
radio talk show guy or something. I I what was
Chris Haynes from ESPN, And I think that someone gave
him just some bad information and he ran with it
and it just didn't make any sense to me whatsoever.
I mean, do you think that would work? No, well,
I don't think it would work. But that's that's not
the case here. The case here is if the story
(01:58:17):
had any truth to it. That that's what I'm talking about.
If if there was truth to it, we could be
discussed discussing it like crazy. But there's no truth to it.
So that who would you take? Is your for Lebron
or Kevin Durant. Oh, Kevin Durant right now? Yeah, so
I don't know why there would be much to it.
All right, let's get after it, shall we. It's time
for Arnie's Picks to wrap up the show. I have
(01:58:39):
no idea which direction after it. I only got to
give me a little music, Give me a little music,
put me in the mood. Bo bo. Yesterday when I
was on the air, when I did my Saturday show,
I had Michigan over Wisconsin, which was a winner. I
had Duke over Georgia Tech, which was a winner. I
had these Celtics over the Cavaliers. Let's forget about that
(01:59:01):
for a second. Now there's a game on Tuesday. The
Cavaliers are going to wear Chris Uh. The Oklahoma city
that's right where you're Okay See is going to crush
them by at least double digits. My friend Westbrook gonna
playing in Carmelo, doesn't matter, It doesn't matter matter. They're
(01:59:23):
gonna crush them because the Cleveland's not as good as
everybody thinks they are. So I'm going with Okay See
over the Cavaliers. Matter of fact, I wish the Cavaliers
were playing more this week, but they only play one
game and then we got the All Star break because
I I love to see him when they go up
against top teams and what they're gonna do with that
new team. So I'm going with okay See over the Cavaliers.
And I'm gonna go with Team Steph over Team Lebron
(01:59:45):
in the All Star Game, even though I have no
idea uh the teams right now in front of you,
I don't have the list, but it doesn't make a difference.
I'm going with Team Steph over Team Lebron. So there
you have my picks. Do with them as you please,
but remember they're strictly for entertainment purposes only. Chris, all right, Um,
I mean let me pose this. By next Sunday, will J. D.
Martinez be a red sock or a diamondback? Here's your
(02:00:09):
baseball talk? And will will we actually have any more
moves in Major League Baseball by next Sunday night because
pictures and catchers report basically next week. Ye. Once Martina signs,
that means the rest of the Scott boris Is clients
will sign. You know, I'll say this, Arn'tie. I I
don't know if I feel as confident about your calves
pick Thunder game, well, I don't know if us is
(02:00:32):
gonna play and it what what we found out today
is the powers of the Memphis Grizzly Tank overshadow the
powers of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Minimal roster line up
out there with Paul George. But I mean, if they
don't have Russ and if Carmelo is still out come
Tuesday doesn't matter, doesn't matter. Here's with Okay, see at home.
(02:00:58):
Here's the funny thing is, by the time we get
back to your show on Saturday night and then my
next Sunday, that's so old news. Remember, no one will
even remember it. I believe our listeners. Remember they do
keep the tweets coming. The show never stops on Twitter.
At Stinking Genius one, that's Arnie s t I N
K I N Genius and the number one, I'm at
(02:01:20):
Plank show, stick Around. Big Ben Mallard is coming up
next to recap this busy day in sports, and I'm
sure Ben will be talking about nothing but the winner Olympics.
It should be an interesting week. I think we might
see a little bit more movement, as you mentioned it,
with some baseball free agents. But Arnie, what NFL trade
might happen? What potential move in the league could happen?
(02:01:40):
As we get set for the combine and the reevaluation
and over evaluation of every quarterback. Can't wait to get
after it next Sunday. Have a great week, Aarnie YouTube,
my friend YouTube for Bobo for Eric for an ill
stinking Genius one. I'm Chris Plank, stick Around, Big Ben
Mallar is coming up next. We're back next week on
Fox
