the way tire buying should be. We got a very
busy couple of hours coming up here. Manci Adam Kaplan,
our NFL insider, is going to be joining us. We're
only weeks away, weeks away from the start of training
camps around the National Football League, so we're going to
get the latest there. Mark Medina, our NBA insider, will
join us coming up in the next hour. By the way,

(00:46):
as we get ready to start this show. As we
are starting the show right now, Mary Mack was beside
herself a little bit earlier. I don't blame her, So Marymack,
I want to bring on Marymack, who, by the way,
was off last week. You know she was, you know,
taking time off last week. I was think you were,
You're not feeling well, but you're feeling better now. In fact,
you were almost delirious as you came in here today.

(01:09):
Tell us about your connection with South Sudan.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Well, my parents are from Sauthsindana'm a first generation in
Sautsindan American actually, so it's very hard for to see,
you know, my country play against USA.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
It is an incredible thing. This is a very young country,
just celebrating thirteen years of existence.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
July nine eleven was when we claimed independence.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
And they were forty three and a half point underdogs,
understandably with a couple at best marginal NBA players that
they had on their team. And here they were pitted
up against the superstar team of the United States in
an Olympic warm up game, so to speak. And it
came down to literally the end of the game. And

(01:54):
I'll get into what happened on those last moments. But
for Team USA to.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
A s that's the word.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well, the one point win over South Sudan, YEP is unreal.
I don't know if it's more about South Sudan or
it's more about, Wow, what's going on with Team USA.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
You know, it's hard to not look at it, what's
going on with Team USA. But I watched the second half,
I don't watch the first half. I looked at the
halftime scoring and I was like, well, let me sit
and watch this, see how it goes. I thought salth
Sudan did a really good job in adjusting every time
Team USA tried to adjust, because Team USA was down
by what fourteen fifteen points and then they came back.

(02:37):
I think they got up by like seven eight points
at one point, and then Seal Sidan still hung in there.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
They never gave up. They adjusted right.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
I don't know why Team USA went away from Anthony
Davis in the second half because he seemed like they
couldn't stop him. He seemed to be the guy that
was keeping them afloat in that situation.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I don't know why they went away from him.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Curry hit a couple big threes, Lebron had a big
layup in there. But I'm going to give more of
the credit of more like good for you to South Sidan.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
That's what I'm gonna do.

Speaker 6 (03:07):
Well.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Bill Raftery was one of the announcers on the game.
I'm a big Bill Raftery fan. He's been around forever.
I think he literally announced the first basketball game ever played.
I feel like he's been around that long. But when
the Team USA went down by a point after the
three point shot by South Sudan, it basically gave the
ball a little Lebron who used his right arm to

(03:31):
clear out a guy who was I don't know, a
one hundred pounds stelf his size and then laid the
ball in and Raftery it was like, now that's impressive, and.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
It was like, I'm glad you brought that up.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
I was like, how is that impressive? I mean, you're
telling me that Lebron James going against a complete nobody
in terms of stature on the basketball planet compared to Lebron.
As he used his right arm to clear the guy
Yad and then lay the ball in, that was impressive.
So that left eight seconds left and obviously South Sudan
had a chance to in this game. With the timeout,

(04:01):
they got a clear shot off that banked off. Then,
unfortunately for South Sadan, they had two players go up
for the rebounds simultaneously. They sort of ran into each other,
the ball dropped, and then as that last second or
two is about to tip off, another South Sadan player
got his hands up, went up and got hacked hacked,

(04:24):
I mean hacked on the arms buzzer sounds game over.
He did look up, didn't argue, sort of looked up,
but I mean it was a hatch at job. I
don't know if he would have made the layup, but
he never got that opportunity.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
Yeah, they moved on real quickly from that moment. They
didn't replay a lot. They replayed it once and they
were like, don't show that again. Because Anthony Edwards won
per hacked him going up. They did not want to
dwell on that. They just wanted USA to win.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
That was embarrassing. Honestly, if it were me, I would
fire Steve Kerr right now. Wow, his mismanagement this team
is already evident. And by the way, I've said this,
I've been saying this the last couple of weeks since
this team was put together. This is the oldest team
we've ever put to the Olympics. Defensively, they are They

(05:14):
have Anthony Davis.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
They have Lebron James.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Lebron James does not play any defense anymore. So he's
an absolute zero on the defense.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
He just tried just defensively, Okay, Drew Jason Tatum, who
came off the bench.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
I believe today he didn't even have.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
A very many Basically, the three Celtic players are the
ones that play any defense. I'm telling this this, this
could be a problem for Team USA coming up in
the Olympics. And I've said this. Look back in two
thousand and four, we stumbled at the Summer Olympic Games.
You know, after dominating Team you know, obviously the dream

(05:56):
team of ninety two, ninety six, two thousand, everything seemed
to be swimming along. And in two thousand and four,
that US Olympic team, which by the way, included a
very young Lebron James, very young Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson,
Tim Duncan, they lost three games during that Olympics. So
they got blown out by Puerto Rico by nineteen in

(06:18):
the first game. They ended up settling for a bronze medal.
And I just have a feeling this could be that
kind of year where the makeup of this team. I'm
not a Steve Kerr guy.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
I know you don't say, yeah, you don't say.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I am not a Steve Kerk guy. I smelled trouble
here for Team USA.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
So something that you just said that this team is
a little bit older, right, So Joel Embiid spoke to
the New York Times and they asked him, I'm gonna
give you a paraphrase of what he said, but they
asked him if he thought Team USA was going to
win Golden just kind of you know, cruise through this.
And he says, the talent on this team is equal
to other teams in the field. Right, But then he

(07:03):
goes on to say that this US team is older.
The Lebron now is not the Lebron that was a
couple of years ago.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
It's a big difference. You can see for yourself.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
The athletic Lebron dominant that he was a couple of
years ago is not the same that he is now.
This is Joelle Embiid talking to the New York Times.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Well, I mean here, here is a game. This is
forty three and a half point favorites against Sal Sadan.
This is not a game where you want to see
Lebron playing until the very end of this game. This
was supposed to be. You know that last you know,
they had a nice win against Serbia, and then you
come in against Sal Sadan. You play the starters for
a few minutes, you're blowing them out by forty and

(07:45):
then you walk off the court and get ready to
go to Paris. Yeah, instead, you realize that if you
lose this game, it resonates across the world. You've got
to win this game.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
You do have to win this game.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Officials helped on that last nine call. But now, all
of a sudden, you have a older US team that
had to use up valuable minutes in a game that
should not have had to use a fatal minutes as
you are now heading to Paris for the Olympic Games.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Yeah, one of the final lens that I'll give you
here from Joelle Embaid is that he put I think.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
People get fooled by the names on paper.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
Is that what's happening doesn't make.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
A good team. Am I Again, you've got offensive weapons
on this team. Goalre Obviously I agree with you. As
far as Anthony Davis, Anthony Davis is the X factory. Yeah,
if you watch Laker basketball season long, he was the
most valuable player for the Lakers because he can do
it at both ends when he is health and he
was certainly healthy this year. You know, this brings up

(08:50):
a much bigger question than I'm going to raise a
little bit later. On in terms of the Olympic Games
and how much this actually means, and it just stays
with basketball for a moment here I mentioned the name
Carmelo Anthony, and most people would say, you know, I
had the great year at Syracuse, won the national championship.
But as an NBA player, yeah, he played a long time. Yeah,

(09:13):
he scored a lot of points. No rings. And then
if you counter by saying, wait a second, he won
three Olympic gold medals, You're like, that doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
It really doesn't.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
It doesn't. Nobody foctors in gold medals when you're talking
about NBA stars, like it's gonna raise their stature, doesn't
by winning gold medals? Yeah, does anyone say, you know
Stockton the Malone, they never won an NBA Yeah, but
they were on the stream team.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Yeah, that's never included.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
No, never included when you talk about their resume. So,

Game August first, Like my soul is falling. I can't,
I can't. Where has the time gone?

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Is that ten days away?

Speaker 4 (11:48):
Yes? Ten days days away? Maybe eleven? But still, guys,
the football is here. It is here.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Well, Johnny is right now. Is a guy that's gone
to more weddings in the last year than the normal
twenty five to thirty year old. That is our dear
friend and our NFL insider here at Fox Sports Radio.
Adam Kappa another wedding. I guess you have to get
these out of the way before the football season.

Speaker 6 (12:09):
It's actually my business manager who does some stuff for me,
some legal work and marketing stuff. So yeah, I had
to go that was back here in Philly, but that's
all gone. Yeah, my tour will probably start in Philly,
my training camp tour, which will be my I think
my eighteenth will start in Philly this coming week late
in the week, and then I should be out West
the follow week, like around around the first week of August,

(12:33):
I should be out West.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
All right, Well, we're gonna have to figure out how
to hook up at him and check in on things
I wanted to go back. I know ESPN came out
with a top ten quarterback list, but I'm more considered
Pro Football Focus, which is an inexact science. I mean,
I appreciate what they try to do. I've talked to
so many players over the years. Some actually were very
favorable about PFLF and others were not so favorable about

(12:56):
their rating system. But they did a whole rundown of
all three two NFL teams. I think this was a
couple of months ago, and they had them by tier. Obviously,
Mahomes was alone on his own tier, and then that
second tier they had Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen. So,
assuming that you're in line with those four quarterbacks, who

(13:21):
would you then rank as the fifth best quarterback in
the National Footballgue. Do you agree with those top four by.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
The way, Yeah, I mean I would have Josh Allen second. Now, again,
everybody's going to have guys. Everybody's going to have their criteria.
You're the way they look at it. I have generally,
I have a bunch of I would say criteria. When
I rank quarterbacks. I basically take everything that I know
from talking to coaches in front office people over the years,

(13:49):
and then I come up with my set of of
what I call non negotiables, like things that you have
to absolutely see. If you don't get it, you can't
like if you don't, if you don't have these traits,
then you're not a top ten quarterback. So yeah, Josh
Allen is so gifted. Look, he doesn't play the way.

(14:09):
He doesn't play it always the way you're supposed to, but
he's got so much talent. They haven't always had enough
talent around him. I think that's been part of it.
Talking to people have been on the coach staff with
the Bills. You just have to accept some things about him.
But overall, he's so gifted. He would be probably be
my number two.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
It's interesting because the one thing I just follow up
on when you brought up turnovers. You know, we remember
the day Adham when quarterbacks, many quarterbacks, top level quarterbacks,
have more interceptions and touchdowns, and honestly, no one made
a big deal out of it. It was a different game.
You're throwing the ball down the field man and man coverage.

(14:46):
I mean, it was just a different sport. So when
people downplay a Joe Namath because you have fifty more
interceptions and touchdowns, they say you're missing the point. I mean,
I saw Dan Fouts back in the day. These quarterbacks
were getting killed in the pocket, unlike the days that
we see right now. So I think when you look
at Josh Allen and people harp on the turnovers, my

(15:07):
attitude has always been this, he's trying to win games exactly.
He's trying to win games. He's not just trying to
play it safe. This was the knock on Alex Smith,
you know, for many years, who won a lot more
games than he lost, but he was a safe quarterback.
I don't buy into that. I mean, if a guy
throws a couple of interceptions trying to make a big
play at the end of the game, I'm not going

(15:28):
to hold that against him.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
So it's funny you bring this up with Josh Allen.
So talking to some people have work with Brian Dabele,
who's now the head coach of the Giants, Daball and
Alan would clash a little bit and nothing bad. It's
just that Dable's a little bit combustible and Alan had
a mine of his own. So most people who work
with the Bill would point to day Ball for a

(15:51):
big part of Josh Allen's development because he coached them hard.
He got into buy in over a series of few years
and they work great together Since Stan It's look, he's
played at a high level. We don't get me wrong,
numbers are fantastic, but look they've they're now on their
second coordinator since Dave Ball left, and they they're going
to embark on a first full season on Joe Brady.

(16:13):
So that's and by the way, Joe Brady was fired
mid season three years ago by the Panthers, so that's
a concern. But overall, Josh Allen's super gifted. I look
at the talent level, I don't worry so much about
interceptions unless the tape shows are a lot of bad ones.
Where he force throws and didn't have it. You always
have to grade interceptions by the way individually, Adam.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
So, this week Kayleb Williams signed to his rookie deal
with the Bears. Apparently he wanted some things, so to
two part question here, do you think if he had
an agent maybe he would have gotten more more of
the things that he was requesting. And then the Bears
have announced that he is going to play in these
preseason games with the Hall of Fame game they have four.
How much do you think we're going to see of
Kayla Williams in the preseason?

Speaker 8 (16:54):
A lot?

Speaker 6 (16:54):
He should because he needs the reps. You have to
remember this offense that they're playing in and Shane Waldron
and his offense coordinator who did a great job of
developing jud Smith to a quality and false starting quarterback,
certainly upper half. So Waldron now is going to run
his West Coast offense. Kayla Williams is not playing this
kind of scheme. So he's got a learner. He needs
reps in it. It's sound like they need to evaluate

(17:15):
you know, Brett Reppan who was a journeyman quarterback, or
Tyson Baigen who was with them last year is more
should be a number three and Austin Reid who was
undrafted free agent. They need to get Kayla Williams, get
reps with Dj Moore, Roma Dunze, Keenan Allen, Carl Kamet,
who's their starting tight end. He needs to get. He
needs to get reps. He's got to get his timing down.
They've by the way, the offensive line's got to get

(17:37):
used to his cadence when how he calls it stuff
at the line. So I would expect to play a
pretty good amount now with a contract. Yet it is
definitely unorthodox for the first pick overall to not have
an agent. Now, remember Marvin Harrison Junior didn't have an agent.
He got his deal done. Now what happened is he
he asked for some unorthodox things. The kind of things
that you could you can negotiate are deferrals and your

(18:00):
contract when you're going to get the cash. Clubs sometimes
wanted for a lot in the second, third, and fourth years,
where agents will try to get a lot of it
in the first and second year. Getting the payments up
front when you get your signings, bonus payments, that stuff's negotiable.
You certainly can do that. It is certainly a little
bit odd and how he want to be paid with

(18:21):
his LLC and Ryan Poulst, the general manser, kind of
confirmed that he wouldn't go into exactly what they gave
in to what they didn't give into. But I have
to tell you the odds makers, folks, the odds makers
are basically picking Matty Ibberfleus to be coach of the Year, who,
by the way, is on certainly shaky ground coming into
the season. Ryan Poult, the general manager, didn't hire him,

(18:42):
and the president Kevin Warren, who came for the Big Ten,
who used to work for the Vikings and Rams. He'll
make the call in the end whether Iberfu survives. He
used to be heavily involved, as I understand it. So
this is a team that and by the way, the
odds makers give him the eight and a half win total.
If you like over that. If you let over that,
that's the money is on the unner. You're gonna have

(19:04):
to pay a big price of the So a lot
of people are betting that over.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
It's interesting when I saw that list about eber Flus
being the honestly, I thought it was which coach is
most likely to not survive exactly after the season. He
would be the favorite, right and at the same time
he's also the favorite obviously. That's how the ward's only
gonna hunt in his hands if they actually go on
and get into the playoffs this year. I want to
ask you about my former organization, much removed from where

(19:30):
I was in Los Angeles, the Vegas Raiders. I got
three choices a quarterback. I'm gonna leave Anthony Brown Junior
out of this mix. You got eight in O'Connell, you
got Gardner Minshew, and you got Tom Brady was talking
about it again.

Speaker 6 (19:47):
I mean Bradley's son is on the roster, Carter Bradley exactly.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
But seriously, between the battle between O'Connell and Minshew, how's
that going to play out?

Speaker 6 (19:55):
And who do you think will be the starting quarterback
for the region. It's funny, It's funny you bring this up.
So I had lunch today with for NFL quarterback coach
John d. Filippo, who is a head coach in Memphis
with the in the UFL. And because John coach Gardner
Minshell is a rookie, and he actually he said, what
are you hearing? I said, I Mincha will win it.
Making twelve and a half a year. O'Connell's a different

(20:15):
kind of quarterback, super aggressive thrower. They kind of reined
him in with the Raiders last year because they're just
trying to win games and save their jobs and get jobs.
The coach kind of coach conservatively. But now you have
this new coach, staff owner, Luke Getzi, who has worked
with Aaron Rodgers, he worked with with Justin Fields. This
is another West Coast scheme. I'll interested to see how

(20:37):
O'Connell does. I'm going to give Minshew the veteran because
I know talking to so on close to Gardner, he
was going to go anywhere. Money wasn't so much. The
object is anywhere he had a chance to compete for
starting job. This is really the only job. And by
the way, they're going to pay him over twelve million
this season. Yeah, he'll win it. Now. Connell's completely different,

(20:57):
not a good athlete at all. You're gonna see as
Jersey tuckw not tucked in. He looks a little sloppy
out there, but the kid is a super aggressive thrower.
He's got to keep an eye on in training.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
Camp, all right, Brandon Ayuk. Is he going to be traded?

Speaker 6 (21:11):
Uh, they don't want to. It's simply because look, they
were open, as I understand it, talking up people around
the league. They were open to trading him leading up
to the draft and doing the draft. They nothing got
worked out. Washington was one of the teams interested. Didn't happen.
John Lynch, the general manager for the Niners, who'll not
confirm any talks. All he said was he kind of
hinted the time to trade him. If you're going to

(21:33):
to entertain that trade talk, we'll be doing the draft
so you can get a first round pick or compensation
for this year's draft. That's out the door now. Now.
One thing I would tell you, folks, and I could
tell you for a fact, Ricky Piersoll their first round pick. No,
he's on the non FOOTBA injury list. He came in
to training camp with something. They are super high on him.

(21:54):
He had a very good off season. Someone's going to
have to go after the season, whether it's Brandon Ayuk
after or debocam that you can't a first round pick
must play. Something's going to have to give. And the
Niners could easily get out of Deebo's contract there for
the season. There's really there's no guarantee money not they
cut him. I could see him being traded. Something's going
to have to happen. You can't keep all these guys.

(22:15):
And that's the situation. To answer your question, if I
holds out and is not there by mid mid August,
I could tell you what the Raiders told me with
clil Mac. They weren't trading him. Everything fine. That John
Gruden who had personnel control. Then in twenty eighteen, he
got bad information thinking that that clail Mack would hold
out into the season. He never was going to do that,

(22:36):
and they traded him. They got good compensation, but you
never want to trade a Hall of Fame player. Khlil
Mac probably will be a Hall of Famer someday.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Yeah, and you know, getting rid of a valuable receiver.
I know I was one of those. I went on
the record, Adam saying, when the Chief said bye bye
to Tyreek kill see you later.

Speaker 6 (22:53):
Chief, You're done. I was wrong.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
I totally agree you and I both They went back
to back super Bowl since his departure. All right, Adam,
we're getting ready. No more, no more weddings.

Speaker 6 (23:04):
I'm no fact I I'll be announcing some of my
work stuff soon in the next week or so. So yeah,
I got it. I gotta get on the road. I
look forward to it. I love traveling the country.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
This it's always enjoyable, I know, And this is the
absolute best time of the year. Everyone's optimistic because we
know every year, in fact, next week we're going to
get into those because every year we I mean, anyone
have the Houston Texans being a playoff.

Speaker 6 (23:23):
Team year ago?

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Nobody it's gonna happen again this year. We have to
figure out which teams are going to come up. Adam
great stuff is always We'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 6 (23:32):
Good.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
That's Adam Kaplan our Fox Sports Radio NFL Insider. All right,
let's find out what is trending right now. Look who's
in the house? Smart is here?

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Hi?

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Guys, Hi hanging out today? I am Hard's always like
he was like, why are you here so early? I
was here really early today?

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Were you like extra early, like earlier than your early?

Speaker 2 (23:53):
I was here at about an hour forty five before
our show.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Oh, yes, that's extra early for you.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
But I always want to hang out with Martin, even
if he doesn't want me to. Hang out. He's just
he's got a lot of things you're doing there.

Speaker 9 (24:05):
I mean, you know, it's not just hanging out having fun.
You do have to pay attention as monster though. So
the various scores and games going on.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
We were watching the end of that US South Sudan game. Man,
that was unreal.

Speaker 9 (24:18):
How about that Monsei? All the TV's in here, he
picks the twenty seven inch right here.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
You got the little idea?

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Yes, turning out the sound. We had to hear the
end of it. Did you see the hatchet job on
that last I did? Wendyon Gabriel has a complaint. I
don't know who he files it with. Yeah, it's International Waters.
I don't know why he's going with it. But uh,
Team USA probably should have lost this game. They probably
should have lost this game.

Speaker 9 (24:39):
Much of the Chagrina Mary Mac Team USA hangs on
the beat Saucer.

Speaker 8 (24:43):
Dan one on one to one hundred.

Speaker 9 (24:45):
Hey, it's lovely, we're doing it your team, team.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
Yeah, this is a good thing. The conversation.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Can you imagine what the money line was on this game?

Speaker 8 (24:58):
I believe it was one hundred one Wow?

Speaker 2 (25:01):
Yes, wow? If you bet one thousand dollars wel Sedan
to win straight up, you could have won thousand dollars.

Speaker 9 (25:09):
Lets'ten know if you bet one thousand dollars on Southdan straight.

Speaker 8 (25:12):
Up to win this game.

Speaker 9 (25:13):
You were in the field of position sick and crying
because that was a year's salary right there.

Speaker 8 (25:18):
They should have paid out.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
Oh, you're right, so right.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
You're sick.

Speaker 8 (25:24):
They almost had it.

Speaker 9 (25:25):
Yeah, and they had a chance with eight seconds left.
A Lebron James hit the game winning layup with eight
seconds left. He finished with twenty three points. But us
how Dan, as Steve mentioned, had an opportunity at the
end of the game winning Gabriel got the rebound.

Speaker 8 (25:38):
By my eye, he was fouled.

Speaker 9 (25:41):
Apparently the referees disagreed. A team, you will say, hanging
on one oh one to one hundred and what which
probably should have been the biggest upset in basketball history.
Major League Baseball's back from the All Star Break. The
Braids beat the Cardinals three to two and ten innings.
That's the first game of a double header. The Rays
beat the Yankees nine to one. Raindy Rose Arena had
two homers and nef their Cortes gave up eight hits

(26:03):
and two walks in four and one third. All six
of the runs that he gave up were earned, but
gim Carlos Stanton could be available as soon as next week.
He's been on the injury list for the last month
with a hamstring injury. Tigers when they're second straight up
the Blue Jay seven to three, despite starter Reese Olsen
leaving in the second inning due to shoulder soreness. The
Jaguars have placed Eric Armstead on the pup list, and

(26:24):
Tampa Bay linebacker Sequille Barrett announced his retirement from the NFL.
Brown three of the Open Championship wrapped up this morning.
Billy Horschel the lead at four under. Big group tied
for second at three under that includes Anderschoffleet and Justin
Rose and Sam Burns and Russell Henley. Scottie Scheffler the
favorite going in He's two under, and Shane Lowry is

(26:44):
one under.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Back to you guys, Thank you all right, Martin, thank
you very much. We'll check in with you a little
bit later on once again, Steve Harbin, Montcy Belanios Here Fox
Sports Saturday. We are live from the tire rack dot
Com studios. I want to bring up something that needs
a lot more time than we actually have on the
show today, but maybe a little bit during the course
of a long football season we can touch upon this.

(27:08):
Mike Florio, a Pro Football Talk, brought up a very
interesting story about the NFL's sudden infatuation with flag football.
As you know are the Pro Bowl now is a
flag football here now.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
It's just for funzies.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
And if you haven't heard, flag football is going to
have a major presence in the Olympics, the twenty twenty
eight games, which are here where we are in Los Angeles.
We'll have flag football men and women. If you think
about it, flag football is a sport that boys and
girls can play, men, women, all ages.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
I know, I'm so jealous. It wasn't an option when
I was in high school.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I know my boys both played flag football. I think
my daughter would have been the best flag football player ever.
She was that kind of an athlete. But you say, okay, well,
that's fine, that's flag football.

Speaker 8 (27:57):
I know that.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
My dear friend Eric Dickerson, hall of Famer, he played
flag football as a kid, said he never put on
pads until he was like thirteen or fourteen years old.
He always would recommend that he was not a big
proponent of the top morner like eight nine, ten year olds,
you know, putting on the pads. But I mean, if
you're going to play eventually tackle football, it's a much

(28:20):
different sport obviously than flag football. The point that Floria
was making though, is it just seems like, Okay, the
NFL is really really behind this whole flag football thing,
and what does this actually mean for the future of
tackle football. And once he gets featured on the Olympic

(28:44):
stage and goes worldwide, the NFL will be monitoring this
oka to see how much interest is actually generated. As
you know, the NFL is facing all kinds of lawsuits
in terms of injuries, long term injuries of former NFL players.
Right now, they have a fourteen billion dollar price tag

(29:06):
on some of the settlements on that and that number
is only going to go up over time. So this
is a big question that we could discuss over many, many, many.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
Weeks, and over I think a couple of years, because on.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
A couple of years, yes, yeah, it's not going to happen.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
It happened right now, but could you.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
Because I was telling Patrick, our producer, our young producer here,
I said, two things are going to happen in your lifetime.
One human beings will be walking on Mars, and two
you will see the elimination of tackle football. Could you
ever see the day? And could there be enough of
a market for flag football for the NFL to survive.

Speaker 5 (29:48):
I don't know the answer to will flag football have
enough of a market? I actually don't know. I'm curious
to see where we are in five years with this topic.
I don't know if people are going to be as
into it, but I do agree with you that I
think tackle football may be coming to the end in
a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
You know.

Speaker 5 (30:08):
I have friends that have kids, and their kids play sports,
and the first thing they tell me is like, oh,
I hope my son doesn't want.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
To play football.

Speaker 5 (30:16):
I really am going to steer him away from playing
tackle football. I rather him go play soccer, baseball, basketball,
Like that is the thing I hear amongst my friends
who have young kids. They don't want them to play
tackle They it's if it's already starting. Tackle football eventually
will be a thing of the past.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
I can say this. I worked in the NFL, as
you know, the Raiders during the eighties, and I was
a playing age. Obviously, I've worked there from ages twenty
six to thirty, and the number of players from those
teams that have since passed is quite alarming. Contemporaries of
mine and the athletes of today, bigger, stronger, faster, The

(31:00):
collisions are more violent, and again you watch it on TV,
it's hard to explain the perspective when you're actually on
a field, even on the sidelines, the veracity of the sport.
It's my numbing. I've said this many times. Anyone that
has the guts to actually walk on a football field, right,

(31:21):
that's what we're talking about. So I have a healthy
respect for anybody. Oh yeah, the walks between those lines.
And it's even punters and kickers. I mean, anybody can
be hit and hit hard and their career can end
on a single play. But that being said, it's so
big the NFL, and could you accept a sport without

(31:44):
the violence.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
I feel like people are already turned off by the
way football is now in comparison to what it was
just ten years ago.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
I hear about it, you know.

Speaker 5 (31:54):
Because it's a softer It is a much softer and
I'm not even just talking about protecting the quarterback just
in general. Now they're they're changing the way football was
played for so long and people are being turned off
by it. I already see it, I hear it now.
The younger generation doesn't know any better. So it's like,
will the younger the younger generation keep the NFL afloat

(32:15):
if it's not like the way it was twenty years ago.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
One other aspect to this, and a big part of
the growth of the NFL to where it stands today,
is the gambling aspect.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
Right, you can gamble on anything, doesn't have to be tackle.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Well, I understand that, and people say, well, other sports
are gamble not like.

Speaker 5 (32:32):
Football it is, but you know, gambling literally you can
gamble on anything nowadays.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
Yes, so user friendly.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Well, like I said, it's not going to happen anytime soon.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
Yes, but it seems like we're trending that way.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
But this push for flag football and the NFL's support
of flag football is something to keep an eye on. Yes,
In the meantime, we're going to get to some heavy
hit going on, all right, coming up on the other side.
Oh boy, it's that time again.

Speaker 4 (33:04):
It is that time again.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Who's your daddy gonna be firing questions of me? I
don't know how this started. Listens to you, Mark, This
is all me. You're the genius behind this. It has
become the rage of all sports talk radio. Who's your daddy?
Coming up here on Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio

Speaker 4 (33:34):
It is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 5 (33:35):
I am Monty Belano's here with Steve Harmon and we
are coming to you live from the tyreg dot com studios.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
And it's time for our favorite segment of the week.
All right, So it's time to test your knowledge, Steve,
as we do every week.

Speaker 8 (33:50):
Last week.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Last week, of course, if I remember Anthony Bennett, ah, yeah,
which I could not for a life of me remember
his name.

Speaker 4 (33:58):
Just remembered all the other details.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
He went to UNLV in the first pick in the draft,
and his name completely just evaporated from my head.

Speaker 6 (34:06):
That's out that.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
I think I ran the table.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
You did, You did, h So we're gonna see what
we can do this time around. We've all got questions
for you all. Start things off here, all right, what
college basketball teams have had the most first round draft picks.
What school time all time?

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Well, I would say how many? How many schools are
we talking about?

Speaker 4 (34:28):
All of them? Who do you think?

Speaker 2 (34:30):
I mean, Ucla would obviously be one. North Carolina.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
North Carolina's in the top three.

Speaker 5 (34:37):
Clas not in the top top three, So fours round
draft picks?

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Okay, North Carolina, Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
Kentucky's the top y. Good talk, he's the top.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
There's not Ucla in the top three. So who would
be the other team in the top three? I mean
you would think something like, I'm going to go with Kansas.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
No, not in the two.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
I didn't want to see. I didn't want to say Duke.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Wow, that's pretty good. Okay, all right? Ben Roethlisberger in
his career, through five hundred and fifty four touchdown passes,
seventy eight of them went to Antonio Brown for the most.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
The next two players do you know they are? And
I'm bringing the next two because they have the next
most by a lot, forty seven and forty five touchdowns
and then everybody else catches like one or two for him.
So who are the other two players that he threw
the most touchdown passes to?

Speaker 4 (35:26):
In his home.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Well, I would think heinz Ward it would be one
of them.

Speaker 5 (35:29):
Correct, that is second he threw in forty seven touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
And then forty five touchdowns.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
Wow, give you his position, but I think you would goe.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
You think it's a running back? Is it a tight end?
It's a tight end. Why am I missing their tight ends?
I am completely going blank. I'm going to give on this.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Heath Miller.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
Heath Miller, let's go.

Speaker 6 (36:00):
All right?

Speaker 2 (36:01):
You got me on that last time?

Speaker 4 (36:02):
All right, Patrick, our producer, what you got for him?

Speaker 6 (36:04):
Hey?

Speaker 10 (36:05):
Hey, everybody, I got one for you, and says we
were kind of talking about some Olympic stuff today, Steve,
or at least pre Olympic. We're gonna stick with the Olympics. Here,
I got one for you. Who has scored the most
points in Olympic basketball history? Most points? Oscar Schmidt?

Speaker 2 (36:24):
D I thought it was. I was so confident too.
We didn't even hesitate, did not Oscar Schmid? The Brazilian?

Speaker 10 (36:34):
How many of how many points?

Speaker 6 (36:35):
Was?

Speaker 8 (36:37):
I do know?

Speaker 2 (36:38):
Oscar Schmidt scored the most?

Speaker 4 (36:39):
So okay, of course he knows that. All right, Martin
coming in.

Speaker 9 (36:44):
There's been one player to wear the number ninety nine
in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Who is he the I would say George Michah No,
George Michael wore ninety nine was seventy seven? I believe
was he seventy seven?

Speaker 8 (36:59):
Ninety nine?

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Ninety nine? Okay, you're right, he might be right. I
don't know, George. I don't know why he said George
Michael ninety nine, ninety nine. There's a ninety nine ninety nine. Wow,
that's a good one, ninety nine. I think he is
a player that you know, Steve, he's a player. I know. Oh,
you know a lot of players that doesn't really saying.

Speaker 8 (37:21):
I don't know if you know personally, you guys, you know.

Speaker 6 (37:24):
You know.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
Here's the thing. If you guys really want to stump
me on a regular basis, like almost every time ask
me uniform numbers, it's really I am a numbers fanatic,
as everyone knows, but for whatever reason, uniform numbers are
definitely my achilles heels.

Speaker 9 (37:41):
So you want to I'll give you another hint his
Twitter account. I know you're super on the on the
online tweets. Yes, exact boss Man ninety nine bot nine.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
I serious. If it's a current player, I have no
clue you got me play Jay Crowder Jay. And I
don't know what it is about uniform I mean you
could ask me famous uniform numbers and I would be
still like like people say, well, what's what what number
did Tom Brady wear? Do you want to think about it?

Speaker 4 (38:12):
You're like A maybe you want.

Speaker 8 (38:15):
Another one, Steve, A little redemption for you, Pops.

Speaker 9 (38:19):
Who's the first player in the n b A to
average tenor more assists per game.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
For a season, ten or more assists for an entire season?
Good one, That's a good one. I'm gonna say, Guy Rodgers,
that's okay, son, You'll do better next time. Oscar Robertson,
the big O, the big O, get that with his

(38:45):
triple double season. Thought, I know, Guy Rodgers did it
a couple of times, led the NBA and assist with
double digits, but Oscar Robertson did it before him.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
I feel I thought it was like a trick question.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
So I got a.

Speaker 8 (38:58):
Look at it.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
You know, I just feel obligated here to say that
George Miken is wearing ninety nine in these.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Pictures, So I get I did got George Mike in
ninety nine?

Speaker 9 (39:09):
Well, you know what the ultimate basketball trivia book must
be inag Was that before the formation?

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Was before the NBA started. George Micah was the first.

Speaker 8 (39:18):
No, No, I'm not trying to you got it. You
got it.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
You know you got it.

Speaker 8 (39:21):
You got it. I'm not.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
I'm just I think that might be okay, that's right.
I get dead at him and right, Mikeen did wear
ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
He did.

Speaker 8 (39:32):
Let's take that up with the person.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Who wrote a semi may semi makes sam Amico you're
on watch pal. Yeah, oh there. Believe me. I have
seen a lot of record books over the years that
are very wrong. But that's what it feels. It sounds
like I'm holding one in the way. Look up a
book called Great, The Great Book of the Great Book

(39:55):
of Los Angeles Sports List, co written by yours truly.
Oh yeah, and the voice of the Chargers, Matt money Smith.
It's a really good book. Took a lot of work
to put that book together. So yeah, that's out there,
and you can still get it for like fifty cents,
you know, on Amazon Books or something like that.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
Will you sign it for me?

Speaker 2 (40:13):
I will. I'm on the cover.

Speaker 4 (40:15):
Have you ever seen I'm gonna get it right now.

Speaker 8 (40:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Great, book of the Los Angeles Sports List. You'll see
me on the cover there. All right, Well, good stuff, guys.
I got Oscar Schmidt, I had George Miken. A couple
of things though, But uniform numbers, yeah, I don't really
pay attention to all that. Coming up on the other stow,
we're getting ready for a huge game with the w
NBA All Stars. A unique twist. This is Fox Sports Saturday,

(40:43):
rolling along on another very busy sports Saturday. This is
Fox Sports Saturday, and we're broadcasting live from the tire
rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot Com. We're gonna
help get you there, and I'm Matt's Selection fasts Reshipping
free road as a protection over ten thousand recommended installers
tire the way tire buying should be well on this

(41:05):
very busy day. By the way, very quick note, and
I know not a lot of people listening out there
care about golf. I'm sort of into it, especially during
the Major Golf Championship. The weather conditions today at Royal
Troon were something to behold. What's interesting The last time
the Open Championship was at Troon, Henrik Stenson won with

(41:30):
a score of minus twenty. That was his final score
minus twenty. Right now Billy Horschall going into the final round,
has the lead at minus four.

Speaker 5 (41:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
You talk about how weather conditions, especially on those courses,
can change the whole dynamic of a course. I mean,
I'm watching Shane Lowry. Yeah, and he unraveled on that
back nine, five bogies on the back nine. As he crawled,
he blew a he had a three shot laid now
three shots back. But it's amazing on those courses because

(42:04):
they play through.

Speaker 4 (42:05):
Yeah, that was my next question.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
They do play through, right, They just play through unless
there's such a downpour that it affects the greens. But
that drizzle, the wind, it can change the whole dynamic. So,
like I said, the last time that they played, which
was eight years ago, it was Henrik Stenson holding out
Phil Mickelson twenty under par. Same course. Now the leader

(42:28):
going to the final round is at four eider Park.

Speaker 5 (42:30):
I would be such a terrible like like team Golfer,
because if I start at a time when the weather sucks,
but you started three hours before.

Speaker 4 (42:39):
Me and you had an easy day, I would be
so mad.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
And that's and that's really what happened today. The weather
early on, some of the guys came up the board.
There were some pretty good scores six hundred, couple sixty six,
sixty five. But the guys this went late. Wow, it
was a quagmire and they did not survive. So we'll
see find around of the Open Championship. And of course,
the good thing about the Open Championship is because it's

(43:03):
over there. You know, you wake up early in the
morning if you're into it, yeah, and it's on right,
you know, you get up early on a Sunday and
you get to watch the rest of the round.

Speaker 8 (43:12):
All right.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
So that's what happened earlier today, coming up here at
about an hour and a half, tip off of the
w NBA All Star Game. And let me applaud the
WNBA for thinking about, let's how do we make this
game interesting because, let's face it, the Baseball All Star
Game once again was forgettable.

Speaker 5 (43:33):
Yeah, and it's just because there's so many of them.
It's kind of what you hit last week on there's
just so many.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
Well, and you have a lot of All Stars and
everything else. But this year, with the Olympics happening obviously
coming up here next week in Paris, it's going to
be Team USA. Obviously, all you know w NBA All
Stars taking on Team WNBA, which is the rest of
the All Stars. Now, all of a sudden, you're like, well,

(44:02):
how is it that Caitlin Clark and Angel rees didn't
make the Olympic team. Well, now it sets up for
a really attractive w NBA All Star Games.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
Oh yeah, they both want to win, they both want
to prove something both sides. This is gonna be competitive.
Oh yeah, yeah, it's gonna be fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
So you haven't heard it from Caitlin Clark and Angel
Reese in terms of being snubbed for the Olympic team.
Neither one of them have said anything along the lines
their day will come, so to speak. But now they're
going to be teammates. Yeah, and you know, Kaitlyn Clark
made some reference. I think Angel Reese agreed. Look, it's

(44:40):
it's not the last time we're going to be teammates.
We're going to be teammates on All Star teams, Olympic
teams down the road, no question about that. But it's
still a little weird. I'm just thinking, like the locker
room conversation, Like, if you're Caitlin Clark, and you're, you know,
getting ready for the game and there's Angel sitting there,

(45:02):
wouldn't you be sort of tempted, like, you know, hey, Angel,
you know what's up? Man, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (45:08):
I really don't think that's what's going on.

Speaker 5 (45:10):
I think Angel Reese, you know, go it leans into
it because of the media.

Speaker 4 (45:14):
And then I think behind closed doors are like, hey man,
can you believe how much people are talking about it is?
That's so crazy And I think it's really that easy.

Speaker 5 (45:21):
They have now an NBA JAM shirt, you know, with
both of them, And then Angel Reese made a comment
everyone can wear there we get along shirts for this event,
like we can get along together. It's okay, I'm on
that one. I'm going to buy that NBA JAM shirt
with both of them on it.

Speaker 4 (45:36):
I'm gonna do it.

Speaker 2 (45:37):
But do you really want them to get along part
of the storyline.

Speaker 4 (45:40):
Right way, right in this situation, Yes, get along and
beat Team USA. That would be so great. Now, after this,
I want you to go and I want you to sell
that you hate each other. I want you to tell
me that.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
See this is the one thing about sports in general
now that if you're a fan of Caitlin Clark. If
you're a fan of the Indiana Fever, you you don't
just dislike Angelice and Chicago Sky, you hate.

Speaker 4 (46:06):
Them, yes, yes, and vice versa exactly.

Speaker 2 (46:10):
And you always want to believe as a fan that
that that energy that hatred I hate it is yes,
it comes from fans is shared by the members.

Speaker 4 (46:25):
Of your team, right right.

Speaker 2 (46:27):
And this idea of everyone, you know, high fiving before
games and hugging before I'm like, no, no, no, no, no
no no no no no no no no, no.

Speaker 4 (46:36):
Yeah, no, I hear you, and I agree with you.
Just be friendly behind closed doors.

Speaker 2 (46:40):
And I think I don't want to see any of
that friendly.

Speaker 5 (46:42):
Yeah, I bet you they are really friendly though behind
closed doors.

Speaker 3 (46:45):
I really believe that.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
I don't want to hear them.

Speaker 4 (46:49):
But right now they're on the same team, right, this
is the time to hear about it.

Speaker 6 (46:53):
This is it.

Speaker 4 (46:53):
They're gonna take down Team USA. It's gonna be great.

Speaker 2 (46:56):
I would just I would love to see this game
to add to this friction. Right, Like angel Reese has
the ball and he oh, shooting is not her forte.
I mean, her thing is rebounding and doing all that.
But she's got a shot and there's Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 5 (47:12):
She's open when.

Speaker 2 (47:15):
Not only does he give her the balls, he sort
of gives her a look like.

Speaker 4 (47:18):
No, no, no, that would be.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Really rows up a brick and that's not good.

Speaker 4 (47:24):
But that would be great. That would just be pairs.

Speaker 2 (47:27):
And then they go back to the bench and they
start jawing each other and they have to be separated.
That's all we want.

Speaker 4 (47:33):
It's not gonna happen. It's not gonna happen today.

Speaker 3 (47:36):
No.

Speaker 4 (47:37):
No, They're gonna come together and they're gonna take down
Team USA and it's gonna be great.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
Oh so you're taking Team w NBA.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
I am, I am.

Speaker 2 (47:45):
Well, that would not be good for Team US.

Speaker 4 (47:46):
No, it's not, which is why I'm going see you're
wanting that drama between Angel Reese and Kaitlin Clark.

Speaker 5 (47:52):
I'm wanting the drama between the two teams. How great
would it be if Team USA lost?

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Well, Team USA is a six and a half point favorite.

Speaker 4 (48:00):
Yes, so it's not even a lot. That's not a lot.

Speaker 2 (48:02):
I'm not not a terrible I like this though on
the over.

Speaker 5 (48:06):
On Alsidan was not favored by forty forty three.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Okay, it's not that kind of a mismatch, not even
close exactly. By the way, the over runner on total
points and we've seen now the NBA All Star Game
crack the you know, everyone's scoring one hundred, yeah, four hundred.
I mean, it's just ridiculous what they're doing over on
one ninety and a half. Okay, yeah, I mean that

(48:32):
doesn't seem that many points. Right, They're gonna play. There
will be more defense play in this one yeap, in
two minutes of this game than the entire game. Remember
this year's NBA All Say the best staff from the
NBA All Star Game this year was this There were
three fouls called in the game. In the entire game

(48:55):
were three fouls.

Speaker 4 (48:57):
It's just not taken seriously anymore. The players don't care.
The players don't want to play. These gals want to
play today.

Speaker 2 (49:05):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 5 (49:09):
Like, Team USA cannot lose, Like what you just said,
they cannot lose.

Speaker 2 (49:13):
No, they're not so bad. Do you want to get
some momentum going the right? We're heading off to Paris.

Speaker 4 (49:18):
The WNBA is gonna win.

Speaker 5 (49:20):
They're gonna go out there and they're gonna they're gonna
run circles around them.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
Yeah. I don't I don't know, do you. Are you
feeling continued momentum right now in the interest in the
WNBA has just slowed down? Where are you on that
right now?

Speaker 4 (49:35):
I think I am still interested. I am, but I
do think it has slowed down in general a little bit.

Speaker 6 (49:42):
Well.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
I heard our dear friend Jonas Knox say earlier on
his show that people are faking it with their interests
in the WNBA, like they're not being honest, like of
their real interest in the WNBA.

Speaker 5 (49:55):
I guess the real test will be in a month.
What's gonna happen in a month? Will the numbers can
anyone a month? Or is it going to be out
of sight, out of mind and you've lost momentum?

Speaker 2 (50:04):
Yeah? And then there are other people saying when you
say that, you know Caitlin Clark is valuable because we
were talking last week about Rookie of the Year and
I was bringing up the fact that I think Angel
Reeves has done more in her rookie season. Now, right now,
Caitlin Clark is playing her best basketball this season. But
if I were to say who's the most valuable player
in this league, it has to be Caitlin Clark. Even

(50:27):
if she's not the best player. If you're going to
say who's the most valuable player this year in the
WNBA in terms of interest, in terms of putting butts
in seats, I'm not saying she's anywhere near the best,
but value to the league it is. And then people
are saying, well, maybe she's not as valuable to the
whole league as you think. Obviously, she's valuable to the

(50:49):
Indiana Fever because wherever they play, they sell out arenas.
They're not selling out arenas all over the WNBA.

Speaker 5 (50:55):
No, it's where she goes, right, It's where she goes,
And definitely I think Angel recently Sky are also selling now.
I don't know if they're moving to bigger arenas like
other teams are when the Fever come to town, which
is a big part of it. But I think it's
interesting that Caitlin Clark could really be in the MVP conversation,
something that I don't think people are expecting. But there

(51:16):
is no clear cut MVP because the Aces are not
playing the way everyone expected them to play. So even
though Asia Wilson is kicking ass and taking names, the
team itself is not winning the way I think they
were expecting them, so that MVP conversation is definitely intriguing.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
Well, I do. I mean, I'm going to be watching.
I'm very interested to say. I like Like I said,
I like this dynamic of Team USA going against Team WNBA.
Speaking of the Olympics on the other side, the Olympic
Games start next Friday. Yeah, we are getting ready for
the Summer Olympic Games. And I have an observation as
someone that has followed the Olympics for a log and

(51:55):
I want to see if you are in step or
out of step with where I stay at. This is
Fox Sports Saturday, Steve Hartman, Montzi Belgios Here Fox Sports Saturday,
coming to live from the Tirack dot Com studios now.

Speaker 6 (52:17):

Speaker 2 (52:17):
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts.
You'll see this show posted right after we get off
the air. Mark Medina, our NBA insider, is going to
be joining us, coming up here in about twelve minutes.
As we got a lot to talk about summer leagues
continuing to roll along and getting ready for another NBA season.

(52:38):
But first we got the Olympics. So we have the
Summer Games coming up. And I said this about sports
that continuously are being added to the Olympic Games. We
mentioned that coming up in the next Olympics, we're going
to see flag football, fight football, man and women flag football.

(52:58):
We got break dancing in the Olympics, so they keep
expanding the roster. But here's the way I look at
these Olympic Games in terms of evaluating an athlete's career.
There are only three sports that I can think of

(53:20):
in which performance in the Olympic Games trump's everything else,
which are track and field, swimming, gymnastics. Those to me
are the three sports where the stars are born at
the Olympics. I mean, there's World track and field championships,

(53:43):
there are World swimming championships, are World gymnastics championships, but
they don't measure up to the Olympics. Now on the
other side, in soccer or football, the World Cup is
much bigger than the Olympics. Oh yes, and then you
have like we have Olympic tennis. No one ever talks
about any gold medals won by the way it's the

(54:05):
Grand Slam tournaments. We even have Olympic golf. In fact,
I saw this the other day. Justin Rose is going
to be eligible for the Golf Hall of Fame along
with Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia very similar resumes. They
all won one major, been in contention for years, won
a lot of tournaments over the year. And they're talking
about this whole thing with Justin Rose, right, and his

(54:26):
whole resume. They never mentioned the fact that he actually
won the gold medal. Does anyone remembers Xander Schoffley win
he a gold medal?

Speaker 4 (54:32):
No, not at all, No, not even a little bit.

Speaker 2 (54:34):
And I'm and basketball is the same. I mentioned Carmelo Anthony.
Nobody cares that he won three Olympic gold medals. All
they know is that he never won an NBA championship.
So when we talk about the impact of these Olympics, yeah,
track and field, swimming, gymnastics.

Speaker 4 (54:51):
You're right, you're right.

Speaker 2 (54:53):
But what I mean, I'm not going to even talk
about some of these totally off the wall sports, you know,
But I'm just serious. I mean, what other sports is
your magnitude as an athlete measured beyond the Olympics.

Speaker 4 (55:09):
Yeah, and maybe you could go to the Winter Olympics.

Speaker 5 (55:12):
I think for snowboarding and things like that, those gold
medals may actually weigh more than X Games.

Speaker 4 (55:18):
Yeah, oh man, X Games.

Speaker 5 (55:20):
Well, when I think of X Games, I think of
like BMX and bike riders. I don't think of snowboarding.
With the Winter Olympics, I think of snowboarding and bob
sledding and skiing.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
Well, scheme for sure, for sure, but I'm talking Summer Games.

Speaker 9 (55:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (55:34):
I mean to me, look, I'm old schooling. I mean,
you're doing gymnastics. Really, I'll tell you gymnastics for sure.
Nineteen seventy two, Olga Korbett from the Soviet Union was
this little girl and she stole the show. She was
the one. And then four years later he had Nadia
komen Each and eight years later he had Mary lurettin
and obviously gymnastics and now some o Bios obviously is

(55:56):
as big a star athlete as there in the world.
So there's a lot of interest in gymnastics. Stars come
out of these, uh, But it wasn't always that way.
The first week was swimming and the second week was
track and field and everything else. To me, was sort
of like, okay, filler.

Speaker 5 (56:11):
Yeah, is it because they don't have like a professional
league year round, so they.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
Do have professional but it's not track and field is
much bigger in Europe.

Speaker 4 (56:20):
It is in the gymnastics league.

Speaker 2 (56:22):
I don't know about gymnastics. I don't know what the
deal there is. I mean, I mean, seriously, when you
how much time are you going to be sending watching
the Olympics.

Speaker 4 (56:34):
I'm not gonna lie, not a lot.

Speaker 8 (56:35):
Not a lot.

Speaker 4 (56:36):
I'll tune in here and there, but not I'm not gonna.

Speaker 2 (56:38):
I mean, it's a big comeback for someone Biles, Yes,
I'll tune.

Speaker 5 (56:41):
In for her, but I'm not gonna I guess plan
my day around it, like and do I do other sports?

Speaker 3 (56:47):
You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 4 (56:48):
Like an All Star Games.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
When you're doing Olympic updates, yes, knowing that it's happened
hours before the actual TV coverage is going to be seen. Yeah,
they still do that right when it's in Paris.

Speaker 4 (57:02):
Are you going to do the like, am I gonna
get about two in the morning?

Speaker 11 (57:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (57:07):
Are you gonna You're gonna say, uh spoiler alert alert.

Speaker 4 (57:11):
Yeah, yeah, if I'm on the update desk, I'm gonna
keep you upted in a timely matter. Yeah spoiler yeah, yeah, yeah,
But aren't they gonna show it live at like two
in the morning, three in the morning.

Speaker 2 (57:23):
I'm sure they are, but I mean, who's who's awake
in the middle of the night. You know how they
do this? They do basically packages uh right in like.

Speaker 4 (57:31):
Uh maybe even a short version of it, right the
highlights of it exactly.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
Yes, yes, you know, it's still amazing to me, speaking
of all time moments, when you had the Nancy Kerrigan
Tanya Harding situation, which is still one of the most
mind boggling occurrences ever were Tanya Harding's boyfriend took a

(57:59):
mallet to the knee of Nancy Kerrigan. That is still
even though it wasn't live, that is still the highest
rated night ever to watch Olympic coverage. Was that playing
of them taking the ice the same night in what
lily Hammer wherever they were for these Winter Olympic Games,

(58:22):
and it wasn't even live, huge numbers, so much interest.

Speaker 5 (58:26):
Well yeah, because when have you ever seen a story
like that? Even even now, like nobody just does that
straight up going to take out the competition, just straight up.

Speaker 2 (58:37):
Like take the lead pipe to the knees. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (58:39):
That that story is just so incredible because you don't
see that very often, blatantly taking out the competition.

Speaker 2 (58:49):
You don't want to see a lot of it, do you.
The writing sent to speak for themselves, as I always
love to the condemn it. You know, it's like it's horrific.
You know, how is Tanya Harding still on this team?
And she claimed that she had nothing, had nothing to
do with it and everything else, and everybody was watching.

Speaker 5 (59:07):
Yep, I mean, how do you again, It's just we
don't see a straight out attack like that to take
out the competition.

Speaker 2 (59:16):
I feel like with these Olympics and it's it's going
to be interesting because in four years, the Olympics are
coming to Los Angeles. Right when the Games were here
in nineteen eighty four, I had just started working for
the RAIDO organization and people say you must have gone
to all the events. I didn't go to any events.
I mean I watched it. It was a weird year
because there was a boycott of the Soviet Union the

(59:38):
East Germans. So we were winning, The United States was
winning everything, like there was no competition. It was you know,
it was really great. Carl lewis a big star. I'm
going back. This is before you're born.

Speaker 4 (59:49):
Definitely, But I know the names.

Speaker 2 (59:51):
I know it wasn't around for maybe maybe, you know,
if I'm around here four years from now, maybe maybe
I should go are you are you going to.

Speaker 4 (59:59):
Go to the be here?

Speaker 5 (01:00:00):
I would be interested if baseball, if they let MLB
players play in the Baseball Olympics in twenty twenty eight,
that's still a possibility.

Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
I watch that. Yeah, I mean again, who cares about
Major League Bay? You want to win a world see him?

Speaker 4 (01:00:13):
I mean you do. You're right. It would have no
way if Mike Child have the World.

Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
Baseball Classic Baseball Classic. You know, we have John Paul
Morosi on every week and he is such a fan
of that World Baseball Classic. Yeah, and of course the
way it ended with show Hey Otani striking out Mike.

Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
Troud and everything else better.

Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
I mean, that was an amazing finish to that.

Speaker 5 (01:00:34):
No, yeah, you're right, if there is baseball in LA
in twenty twenty eight, is it really going to matter?

Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
But all right, well, coming up on the other side,
we're going to talk some basketball NBA basketball with our
dear friend Mark Medina. But first let's find out what
is trending right now.

Speaker 9 (01:00:48):
I'm sure you guys will ask Mark Medina about this.

Speaker 8 (01:00:52):
But Team USA hung on to be South to.

Speaker 9 (01:00:54):
Dan by one point one hundred and one to one
hundred and what should have been one of the biggest
upsets in basketball history. Lebron James scored the game winning
label eight seconds left. He finished for twenty three points.
Major League Baseball, the Brads beat the Cardinals three to two,
win ten in the first game of a doubleheader. Rays
beat the Yankees nine to one. Randia Rose Arena win

(01:01:14):
yard twice. Nefster Cortes give up eight hits, two walks,
and four and one thirds innings, But Jim Carlos Stanton
could be available for New York as soon as next week.

Speaker 8 (01:01:22):
He's been on the angel list for the last months.

Speaker 9 (01:01:25):
With a hammy, Tigers win their second straight up of
the Blue Jay seven to three. Reese Olsen left in
the second inning due to shoulder swords. We'll see how
that plays out for the Detroit pitcher. The Jaguars have
placed Arek Armstead on the pup list. Tampa Bay linebacker
Shaquille Barrett announced his retirement from the NFL and the
third round of the Open Championship, like you were just

(01:01:45):
talking about, Steve wrapped up this morning. Spoiler alert, Billy
Herschel is in the lead at four under. Big group
tied at three under, including xandersawfle A gold medalist, Justin Rose,
Sam Burns, and Russell Henley. Scotti Scheffler was the favorite.
Go He's two under and Shane Lowry is one under. Moncey, Steve, here.

Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
You Shane aughty, everyone thought he was, but you looked
like he was gonna run away with this thing, and
then the weather got the best of him. So he's
got a three shot deficit to make up. And scottis
Cheffer very much in the media.

Speaker 4 (01:02:16):
Oh yeah, he's so.

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Don't I wouldn't. I wouldn't bet against Scotti Scheffler. Once again,
this is Fox Sports Saturday, Steve Harvey, Montcy Belanios. We
are live from the Tirak dot Com studios and now
join us to explain everything NBA, NWNBA. Well, he's our
NBA insider. The great Mark Medina is joining us right now.
So Mark, I know you laid down a boatload of

(01:02:39):
money on South Sudan to win straight up against Team
USA is a forty three and a half point underdog.
My takeaway from that game was I would fire Steve
Kerr on the spot. I mean, the fact that you
had to exhaust the oldest Olympic team ever assembled in
a game like this with the Olympics next week, to

(01:03:00):
me doesn't bode well for this team as they head
into the Olympics. But what did you make of today's game?

Speaker 11 (01:03:06):
Well, let me ask you a question, what would you
fire Steve Kurr exactly? For as far as what decisions
he made or didn't make?

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
Well, I think all of that. For all the decisions
he made, it didn't make I don't.

Speaker 11 (01:03:17):
Believe what were the decisions though?

Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Well, I you know, Monsie and I were talking about this.
She was like, why was Anthony Davis not getting the ball?

Speaker 3 (01:03:25):
More?

Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
I mean, what we're talking about an undersized SASDAN team
where someone like Anthony Davis could literally score one hundred
points if he wanted to in this game. But the
fact that you had to use Lebron to the final
second after a full NBA season, that's not what you want.
This was supposed to be like the throwaway game to

(01:03:48):
get ready for the Olympics. He had everyone well rested
for what I think is going to be a challenging
run for this team. So the idea of getting your
team to peak at the right time obviously due to
Steve Kurr.

Speaker 11 (01:04:03):
Yeah, I mean, look, it was disappointing, but I do
want to give some caveat South Sudan isn't a random
Olympic team, Like they have international players and NBA players.
They're not obviously the calper USA, but they didn't come
out of nowhere. They have, you know, institutional NBA influenced
structure where Lou Abdeng oversees it. They have coaching staffs

(01:04:26):
that are NBA head coaches in the league or assistant coaches.
I mean, but to your point about USA and them
having to exhaust everything, I think what we saw was
that Joel Embiid's not going to start anymore. The thought
is was before this game was that even for his imperfections,
his size presence was going to at least allow USA

(01:04:49):
to dictate things against feb opponents that have traditional centers,
and even with his foul trouble, it would be almost
like he's eating minutes, eating any and then Anthony Davis
and dam Audibaut come in to your point. Things were
so dire that Steve Kurt decided, you know what, we're
emptying the bench. We're not having the starters. They led

(01:05:10):
the third quarter comeback, and so yeah, this shows they're
not untouchable. It's disappointing, but I don't think it's as
apocalyptic as maybe the final score indicates.

Speaker 5 (01:05:25):
Mark, Let's move on to summer league. Okay, So Brownie,
James Dalton connect. All these young guys need rest. That's
why they're not playing in their final roll, don't They don't.

Speaker 11 (01:05:35):
They don't need rest. This is a normal thing for
any draft pick, first round, second round. They don't play
in the final game, okay, just for that one percent
chance there's an injury. And then it's like, why what
was the point of That's a summer league game?

Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
All right?

Speaker 11 (01:05:51):
Well, with the there's a load management, don't worry.

Speaker 5 (01:05:53):
Okay, because the way it was worded it was like, oh.

Speaker 4 (01:05:56):
They're going to get rest. Are really they need rest? Okay?
Right now? With summer league? Who has impressed you the most.

Speaker 11 (01:06:02):
Mark, Yeah, I would say Ron Holland from Detroit. Really yeah,
he's a gamer, he's a great defender. I love how
aggressive he is. Look, the Pistons have a lot of
holes in the roster. They're one of the worst teams
in the NBA. But I think that he is a
player that could be in a Rookie of the Year contention.

(01:06:24):
I think you know, he was talking to me in Vegas.
Oh they're a playing team. I think that's a stretch,
but I think that he is going to help bolster
that team because not only is a good wing player,
he has old school habits as far as his work ethic.
The other player, it's a very interesting contradiction because he's

(01:06:45):
been struggling offensively, but defensively, Alex Sar with Washington's really good.
He's a great rim protector, very mobile. You know, there's
a lot of projections from people I talk to around
him and as well as around the end that he
could be having the same kind of defensive impact that
Seuck Holmgren did with Washington or with the Oklahoma City

(01:07:08):
last season. So yeah, he's got to shoot, though it's
a lot better, and he's got to be an offensive threat,
but his rim protection and his rotations or something else.
So I would take those two players as well as
Reed Shepherd, like great shooter back shooter in the draft,
has such sharp instincts. So yeah, I know you asked

(01:07:28):
me for two and I chose three. Star Reed Shepherd
would be one, Rod Holland will be two, and Alex
Star will be three.

Speaker 5 (01:07:34):
Why do you think Star is struggling offensively? What did
he go zero for fifteen?

Speaker 11 (01:07:40):
Yeah? Part of it is good shots aren't following. Part
of it he needs to make it the skill set.
He's a really great passer, but you know the mL
on him from people around him is that he needs
to be a stronger finisher at the rim and he
needs to develop his outside shots. So you know, some
of it will happen naturally with more time, but he's
got to also put on some more strength. He's got

(01:08:02):
to be more aggressive. But the least the encouraging thing
is he has a defined skill set where everyone knows, okay,
he's going to be an elite defender. So that's great.
You know, none of these guys are projected to be
generational players, but you know, someone like Alex Sar or
even Ron Hyland, there is a pathway for them to

(01:08:22):
be at least second tier All Star Calaber putters.

Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
So, Bronnie James obviously has been the most talked about
player and a lot of people went out to see him.
It was a mixed bag, some good, some bad, some
really bad. But I mean, let's let's talk about what's
going on behind closed doors with the Lakers. I don't
think anything that's going on in the Summer League is
affecting their ultimate decision on how they're going to handle

(01:08:46):
Ronnie James and his rookie season. How are they going
to handle this?

Speaker 10 (01:08:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (01:08:52):
See, I think you outlined it really well that nothing
really changed. I think it just crystallized how they're going
to handle it. Is that he's going to be for
the South Bay Lakers for the most part this season
with the G League team. So I'm with Jalen Brown
when he got caught on camera. Ronnie James is not
an NBA player, but he can develop into an NBA player. Now,

(01:09:16):
what does that mean. It doesn't mean he's going to
be a star like his dad. It means he could
develop into becoming a rotation caliber player, but that's down
the line, certainly not short term. Don't think he's ready,
nor will he you know, likely get rotation minutes outside
of you know, preseason action. I think the majority, if
not most, of his time next season will be in

(01:09:39):
the G League because he needs to develop and for
all the weaknesses, and there's a lot you know, we
saw with his shooting and just his readiness, there are
a few qualities that do leave some NBA talent people out,
even outside of the Lakers. Encourage is that he's resilient,
like he overcame a cardiac arrest. He will competes through

(01:09:59):
high and lows. He doesn't lack confidence. He's a team guy,
and he's willing to defend. The challenge. Short term is
he doesn't have a defined skill set. There's no lane
for him to fall back on. And I think it
is a stretch when dej Reddick saying, oh, yeah, he
could be Lou Door or Drew Holliday, I don't think
that's his ceiling. I do respect the Lou Door comparison,

(01:10:22):
just of the idea that you know, Lou Door was
undrafted and he's become, you know, one of the best
defenders in the league. I don't think that's how his
career will turn out, but I think that you know,
his value will be just in tangibles and defense and
being a good teammate and with that, you know, sometimes
those are all the qualities you need to be a

(01:10:43):
rotation player. But he's got even developed into that.

Speaker 4 (01:10:48):
So Brownie James is not favored to win the Rookie
of the Year at all.

Speaker 11 (01:10:53):
Vegas are I'll putting some bets on it.

Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
They are putting some bets on him, like a lot.

Speaker 5 (01:10:58):
Is this just because everybody's like, well, Lebron and Clutch
control the league, so you'll probably win it anyway.

Speaker 11 (01:11:05):
I think it's about always close to Vegas. A lot
of very very optimistic Laker fans, a lot of people
with disposable income with the ability to make some dumb decisions.
And that's that he's not ready in a Rookie of
the Year. He's not getting first team, he's not getting
second to So.

Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
Yeah, Russell Westbrook stay in Utah was very short. He
got released.

Speaker 11 (01:11:31):
Yeah for the second time. You do wonder will there
ever be a video tribute for him in Utah?

Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
So is this the end of the line? Is anybody
else interested in picking up Russell Westbrook to extend his career?

Speaker 11 (01:11:44):
Yes, yes, this deal is tied together where Denver is
expected to pick him up and I think that when
it looks when you look at Denver for a very
short term, this is a good pickup. They've lost a
bunch of their supporting cast death and Tato Viscot of
Pope this past summer. You look at last summer after
the championship, losing Bruce Brown, Fish Smith, they do need

(01:12:07):
additional role playing help to make life easier for Nikola Joki,
Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Junior. He can provide that off
the bench. I think the short term it can be good.
I think the long term it seems like it's always
our thing with Russell Westbrook where he'll embrace his role
just again in the foot in the door, but naturally
he'll want to have a bigger role like he was

(01:12:28):
during the prime of his career. But when you look
at the Nuggets, they don't need a starting point guard.
Starting point guard is Jamal Murray, and he's a much
better player, much better shooter, much better play maker with Jokic,
so I think that he can do things with the
second Union. I think Michael Malone can imagine because he's
a good head coach, knows how to match personalities, knows

(01:12:50):
how to empower people, while also holding them accountable. But
I think Westbrook has to have it in his head
that he's in a different stage in his career, and
I think the biggest thing and Monsey hope he can
back me up on this. There's kind of a narrative
with Ay. The Clippers brought the best out of Ross.
I appreciate him on like the Lakers and Russ eurly

(01:13:12):
embrace that role. All those things are true, but here's
what's also true. Russ became less effective in the playoffs
and less enthusiastic with coming off the bench as time
warred on. So I do wonder if the same scenario
happened in Denver.

Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
I'll never forget this. I took my boys, young boys
to a UCLA basketball game, and what was Westbrook's freshman
year at UCLA. He wasn't playing at all, and so
after the game, I was going to see Ben Hallen,
who was a friend of mine and introduce him too
my boys. And I was standing there with my younger son, Garrett.

(01:13:49):
He was maybe I don't know, six years old at
the time. I said, so, who's your favorite UCLA play?
He goes, I like number zero, And when he said
I'm like numbers zero, the hell's number zero, and he
pointed him out. My go Westbrook, the guy didn't even
play all right, Well, if you like, if you like
a guy who wants to sit on the bench arrest

(01:14:10):
of his lefe, go ahead. To have gone from that
a year later, to be the fourth overall pick in
the draft and then do I have a Hall of
Fame career still blows my mind. Yeah, it still absolutely
blows my mind.

Speaker 11 (01:14:23):
I mean, look, Russell Westbrook's career is come full circle.
He overachieved and no one ever doubts his competitive will
and desire to win. But that's also been his shortcoming.
Just because you work hard doesn't mean it gets good
great results, and you can't always will yourself to great performances.
As your athleticism wags down, and even if it's still high,

(01:14:46):
you gotta play smart. It's not just about working hard
and working smart, and Russell has struggled doing that and
it's created a lot of challenges in the latter part
of his career.

Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
No question mark has always tremendous stuff. And Joey, I
know you'll be watching every second of the WNBA All
Stars going against Team USA, so enjoy that game tonight.

Speaker 11 (01:15:09):
Montse Steve, appreciate you guys are great at radio and
love the debate.

Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
There you go, great, Mike Madina, thank you very much.
All Right, what kind of week is it going to
be leading up to these Olympic Games. We're gonna tell you.
This is Fox Sports Saturday, Steve Hartman, Montzi Belagios. Here,
Fox Sports Saturday. We are live from the tai Iraq
dot Com studios. Want to thank the crew today, Martin
jumping in, yes, updating us on everything and then finding

(01:15:35):
out himself that indeed, George Miken did wear ninety nine.
He's gonna have to use a different book to ask
me questions, as that doesn't have that.

Speaker 4 (01:15:43):
You would tell a book that they're wrong.

Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
Yeah, t I was like you were ninety nine. Didn't
as it turned out a good Patrick obviously. Just try
to throw me with the Oscar Schmidt question. I got you, Yeah,
but uh I got that one. That one I got,
I'll do better. Yeah, that's okay. I think I've gotten you.
The last three weeks you were kidding me Early.

Speaker 10 (01:16:05):
I believe there was one time where you did actually
call me stepdaddy for.

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
One time only, Yeah, for one time only and then
of course we are so happy to have Marymack back.

Speaker 4 (01:16:14):
Yeah, she's back.

Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
We missed her. She was under the weather last week.
We missed you, Mary mac and uh. Obviously it was
an unbelievable day for South Sudan. Even if they lost,
they were robbed at the end. There was a hatch.
It should have been a foul at the end of
the day.

Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
Agree, So yeah, well yeah, watch this in Paris.

Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
I thought it was interesting though. Mark Medina is saying that, no,
South Sudan is yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
No.

Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
The president of their their national league is Louell Dang
who played for it the Bulls.

Speaker 4 (01:16:41):
Yes he did.

Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
So are they in the Olympics? Are they going to
be Yeah, they're in the Olympics. Okay, well, maybe there'll
be a remat would that be something?

Speaker 3 (01:16:49):
And if it is where we're coming back for that point.

Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
That would be unli I guarantee you this, if there
is a rematch, they're not going to be forty three
and a half point underd dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
It was a little bit personal because Paul Pierce was
talking crap about our team like two days ago.

Speaker 4 (01:17:02):
All Piers likes to talk a lot of crap.

Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
Yeah, yeah, he does, all right. So we do have
the Olympics coming up this week. We had the w
NBA All Star Game coming up here shortly. But I mean,
you know, as we said, we can sit here and yeah, okay,
there's some interest obviously in this WNBL Star Game because
of the format and the Olympics of the Olympics. But

(01:17:25):
you mentioned it during the show, and I'll mention it
once again. We're ten days away from the Hall of
Fame game. That's Hall of Fame game.

Speaker 5 (01:17:34):
No football is here, Yeah, it is here, and a
great Hall of Fame game to start because Caleb Williams.

Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
So Caleb and I agree. Adam Kaplan said, expect them
with this offense, especially since eber Flutes their coaches favored
to win Coach of the Year. Well, the only way
that's going to happen is if they make the playoffs
with a rookie quarterback. So I would imagine they want
to get Caleb Wood, and I'm sure he wants to play.
I mean, give me out there. I got to learn
this system. I got to get comfortable.

Speaker 5 (01:18:02):
With this jitters out because he's got to have jitters.

Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
Sure, I get him all out, Like, yes, I don't know,
you know, I it was such a hard year to
evaluate Caleb Williams because when you're giving up fifty points
a game. Yeah, I mean, I'm not exactly that. It
was one of the worst defensive teams I have ever
seen ever I at the collegiate level. They were literally

(01:18:30):
putting hip like forty two forty every single game. It's
a lot of pressure in your quarterback saying, oh, by
the way, you're gonna have to score fifty for us
to have a chance to win a gata Yes, right, yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:18:41):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
And they didn't have their full complimentary of players that
they had the year before when he won the Heisman Trophy.
So I know this, I know what my I see.
I mean, I trust my eyes. I'm not looking at
the numbers, okay, And when I look at Caleb Williams,
I see a star.

Speaker 6 (01:18:56):
Do you.

Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
I do see a star, A generational star.

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
But I also recognize that the Bears have been a
graveyard for quarterbacks. You know, They've had a lot of
guys over the years. I thought maybe maybe in this
you know.

Speaker 5 (01:19:08):
Adam Kaplan has said that he doesn't see it, that
he doesn't think it's a generational star in Caleb Williams.

Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
I know that, and a lot of people think maybe
Janie Daniels will be there. Yeah, he's on another bad
team though, I'm telling you right now. I remember I
mentioned that Pro Football Focus off air to you. They
had the ranking, and last week I was really pumping
up bow Nicks in his rookie season with the Denver
Broncos and he's going to shock the world and lead

(01:19:36):
the Broncos the playoffs of the thirty two teams they
had Bonix last I'm like, no, that's not true. Sean
Payton will find a way because it'll be his guy, right,
But these are all the storylines going in.

Speaker 4 (01:19:52):
That might be the team that sneaks up on Everybodyron.

Speaker 2 (01:19:56):
Well, I'm the only one that believes that.

Speaker 4 (01:19:58):
Yeah, that you you are.

Speaker 6 (01:19:59):
But I I think.

Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
It's gonna be a rough first year for Jim Harbaugh. Yes,
I believe Harbor will get the Chargers.

Speaker 4 (01:20:06):
Back, just not right away, not immediately.

Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
The Raiders are not. I'm putting faith in Sean Payton
that he's going to figure this out, even if it's
a rookie quarterback. But Boni's played five years of a
start in college.

Speaker 4 (01:20:18):
He's not a kid it's gonna go a long way.

Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
Yeah, what are your plans? You're gonna watch this WNBA.

Speaker 4 (01:20:23):
I'm going to watch this game. I'm looking forward to.
I'm gonna get some food, I'm gonna watch it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
I'm thinking about the same thing. I have to hit
the freeways here, and that's not gonna be easy. Right now, HI,
don't go anywhere. We got much more coming up. This
is Fox Sports Radio.
