Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. Ah, Yes, living the dream
once again on a fabulous NFL Sunday. This it's Fox
Sports Red Zone a radio. Are you ready for another
big Sunday, Rich? Yeah? All right. We got seven games
that are giving kicking off here shortly. Here's the rundown.
Three really big games. We got the Ravens, Browns, we
(00:23):
got Raiders, Chiefs, and we got Cowboys football team those matchups. Also,
we got Jaguars at the Titans, we got Saints at
the Jets, Falcons at the Panthers, and Seahawks at the Texas.
But three really big games, all of them divisional games.
And when he got divisional rivalries like Ravens and Browns
and Raiders and Chiefs and Cowboys and the Washington football
(00:47):
team gets a little more intense, but major playoff implications
and all of those games, no doubt. And I mean
don't look past this Jacksonville visiting Tennessee game either, because
Jacksonville upset in a huge way the Buffalo those which
really sent them tail spinning. And the Titans can lose
like the Titans, especially a divisional game. But the Titans,
(01:07):
if they want to keep a high seed, if they
don't want to face a team that they really can't
afford to in this uh, this wild card round. They
really have to do some work here, because that was
a team when Derrick Henry was still hung still healthy
and hungry and and running like a man possessed like
he always does. We're looking at them as potentially being
(01:29):
a super Bowl contender at one point, and now they've
really sort of settled amid the pack of teams where
you're saying, yeah, well, they'll probably win their division. But
the Colts are right there in the rear view mirror absolutely.
Now this is a weekend. We have final bye week
around the NFL Week fourteen. The Colts, Dolphins, Patriots, and
Eagles are off this week later this afternoon of course
(01:51):
or in the evening, depending on where you're listening right now.
Lions at the Broncos, Giants at the Chargers, forty Niners
at the Bengals, huge implications for both teams, and yes,
the Bills at the Buccaneers. And we got the Bears
and Packers on Sunday night. Monday night matchup is the
Rams and the Cardinals. So we got a lot of
huge games this week around the National Football and I
(02:13):
love it in the scheduling that we start seeing more
divisional matchups and rich you know, in your in your
career in the NFL, I mean, every game obviously is
a critical game. You have so few games to decide
which teams get in and without, but rivalry games. You know,
we always talk about rivalries in college football and the
pageantry in the history of some of these rivalries. But
(02:35):
when you're talking about division rivals that you play home
and home with every single year, I gotta admit, are
you imagine that those games are a little more intense?
And speaking of which, we already have a turnover in
one of these divisional rivalries and a touchdown for this
Chiefs defense that has been absolutely on fire over the
last six weeks. Uh So, on the opening drive for
(02:57):
the Las Vegas Raiders, they turn over the football on
a forced fumble by Chris Jones, scooped up by one
of the defensive backs, Hughes, and he runs it in
for a touchdown. Chiefs on the board six nothing. You
can hold a football like that. That was just too easy,
absolutely too easy. So pending the extra point, Chief's first
(03:19):
one is on the board six nothing. Chiefs on an
easy walk in touchdown there. But yeah, just getting back
to these rivalry games, especially at this time of the year,
you got two teams in contention, I would imagine gets
a little chippy out there. It does well, especially when
it late in the season when there's so much more, uh,
depending on these games. And maybe as an offensive lineman
(03:42):
like I was, you know, there's a defensive lineman who
did you a little dirty in Game one, you know,
maybe got his hands up under your face mask. You
exchange some pleasant trees after the play. You remember those things.
You know, it becomes personal the second time around. And
so whether it happens in the regular season against the
divisional rival, or you happen to see an opponent who
(04:03):
you saw earlier this season in the postseason, dude, it's
just turned up a lot. And and it can it
can factor and you can get guys playing on tilt
because they're emotional and uh and yeah, so this is
an exciting part of the season for me, for everyone
who loves football. Cowboys on the road against the Washington
Football Team. Cowboys have the ball first in this game.
(04:23):
They are four and out point favorites on the road
against the Washington Football team that comes in on a
four game winning streak. Taylor Heineke has done enough, but
the big story there has been their defense, which amazingly
has played a lot better since the injury to Chase Young.
They lose their best defensive player, and I don't know
what has happened, but suddenly this Washington football team defense
(04:46):
is looking like the defense we expected at the beginning
of the year. And remember, this is gonna be a
match up two of the next three weeks. They played
today on the road in Washington for the Cowboys, and
then two weeks from now a rematch on the Cowboys
home field. Yeah, this is uh. And and then again
that that's a part of the story too, is a
lot of these divisional rivalries. You see repeats playing the
(05:07):
same team in not back to back weeks in most cases,
but in short uh time time periods. It turns over
that fast. So um, yeah, it's uh. It's going to
be interesting to see what happens out of the NFC
East because as we speak, the Philadelphia Eagles are just
observing this game on thereby. And that's another team who
(05:28):
look I just think they're waiting in the wings. Not
a great year not not not even a good year
for the most part, but good enough that they give
the Dallas Cowboys something to worry about. And that's the
final game of the season between the Eagles and the Cowboys.
You mentioned the Jaguars at the Titans is not exactly
a marquee game in terms of who should win the game.
Titans are obviously huge favorites against the Jacks teams to intend,
(05:52):
but once again, Urban Maya, what a mess this year
has been. Now, the latest news came out that he
added out for Marvin Jones, who by the way, is
one of the most well liked players around the NFL.
He had a back and forth. Then there was reports
that he want and called that his assistant coaches there
are a bunch of losers out there. Meanwhile, Cohn, the
owner is saying, I back up my guy, Irvin Meyer.
(06:13):
This has been an absolute catastrophe from the hiring. Do
you think I mean, I would imagine he'll survive the season,
But beyond that, I mean, are they gonna ride this
pony much longer? Because it just seems you talk about
a guy that doesn't get it what it means to
be an NFL head coach. As opposed to a guy
who has never challenged, you know, the all powerful college
(06:35):
football coach that just doesn't play at the NFL level. Well, look,
finger pointing when things are going wrong is very common
in the NFL. You know, that's the reason why you
see offensive coordinators or defensive coordinators fired as the season
grows long. I mean, just think about what's happening with
the Carolina Panthers. Joe Brady is scapegoaded because Matt Rule,
(06:57):
the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. He needs to
make a move, He needs to make something happen because
things really haven't turned out the way that he's hoped.
And same with Urban Myer. Right now in Jacksonville, though
it's been a much shorter amount of time, do we
have that first Chief's touchdown? Defensive touchdown? Mind you? Three
safety Nicol to start the game and running left off
(07:21):
falls out of checking fubbles picked up my Kansas City
turns touchdown Kansas City Mike choose what the scoop and
score on the ferry. First play from Scrititch Glindo tis
five the Wolf from the Chief's radio network. Just like
that seven nothing Chiefs. By the way, it appears to
(07:42):
be quite windy in Kansas City and somebody needs to
have the Raiders a wake up call. Is Derek Carr
just got swamped on a big sack by the Chiefs defense, which,
by the way, has really been the story for the Chiefs.
You look at Patrick mahomess numbers this year, by his stand,
it's certainly pedestrian at best. It's been this defense that
(08:03):
let's carry them now to this eight and four record.
By the way, they host the Raiders today. Charges will
host the Giants today. Big favorites obviously against the Giants
team with Mike Glennan a quarterback, but they got a
showdown Thursday at SOFI Stadium Raiders, excuse me, the Chiefs
and the Chargers. I will be at that game. It's
gonna be my first game evert so far. I'm taking
(08:24):
my boys to the game. That's gonna be a heck
of a showdown on Thursday. Yeah, yeah, no question about that.
And the way the Chiefs defense is playing, to your point,
is beyond admirable. It's the reason why they're a playoff
contender and leading this division. I think since Week six,
the status they are the leading scoring defense in the
NFL there there ahead of the Patriots. The Patriots have
(08:47):
been playing absolutely ridiculously defensively since that that point in
the season. That's really when their wind streaks started his
Week six, and the Chiefs have been playing better. And
it's because in large part of the pass rush Chris Jones,
Frank Clark, Melvin Ingram. I mean, they've gotten healthy up front,
and this is one of the healthiest teams in football
(09:07):
right now heading into the postseason. Uh, they're They're shown
a shot of Matthew in the defensive secondary after another
three and out for this Raiders offense just can't get
anything going. This Chief's defense is one of the best
units in football right now. Hello, this the Houston Texans.
Last week, they have a big zero last week, Well,
guess what they got seven points right now rerevend Jordans,
(09:31):
a five yard touchdown pass from the legendary Davis Mills
who is back, and the Houston Texans an early seven
nothing laid against. Wow, the Seattle Seahawks, even when their
win against the forty Niners last week, sitting at four
and eight, I heard a interview with Russell Wilson saying, yeah,
I'd like to be in Seattle for twenty years. I
don't know where's this franchise going four and eight? You
(09:54):
got a seven year old coach and Pete Carroll a
team of you know, even a year ago was a
twelve win team. They they seem completely have lost their way.
The frustrations are mounting. Um and Pete Carroll normally very
cool character. Actually at one point in this season walked
out of a press conference. Now he returned an apologize
(10:15):
and apologized and he said, you know, that's out of
my character. But I'm in a unique situation. I've never
had a team or a season quite like the team
that we have this year, in the season we've we've
had this season, and so yeah, they're searching for answers.
They don't have many of them. You want to talk
about a problem. Defensively, the Seattle stops nobody, including the
(10:38):
Houston Texans who are on the board looking stepping up,
Davis scrambling on the right side, Davis flung back at
the hands on wide up and Brevett Jordan touchdown. Houston
Sports Radio six and Texans Radio Network also so they
Texan US up seven out thing right now, the Cowboys
have opened up their game against the Washington football team
(10:59):
with a few a goal. So we are off and running.
It's time to buckle up Week fourteen around the NFL.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox
Red Zone Radio, and we've got the place that you
may have miss. Danehill gives forming a crack on the
(11:20):
left side. He cuts it up, he draps it in
times that Titans. Now back live to the studios of
Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio. That
was w g f X one oh four point five
(11:42):
Titans Radio Network. Titans with an early seven nothing lead
against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now it's time for the NFL
Fox Focus all right. Coming up later on in the day,
the Chargers will be hosting the New York Giants. Fox
(12:03):
NFL Analysts. He'll be doing that game. Mark Slare's Super
Bowl champion pro bowler, Join us once again. Mark. We've
been talking about things that have been going on as
far as teams that appear to be in playoff contention,
but week to week you're not quite sure which team
is gonna show up. And the Chargers have certainly been
one of those teams at times because of their great
(12:25):
young quarterback. They look really good, and then there are
other times when that defense, which has had the worst
run defense in the NFL all season long, has let
him down. Where do you stand right now? Are the
Chargers a serious playoff contender in your opinion? Right now? Yeah,
I don't think there's any question. I mean, I think
the Charges are a really good football team. So, you know,
(12:46):
obviously inconsistency. They still have a young quarterback, There's no
question about that. The run defense, you know, this is
where Staffson and numbers oftentimes live. I think you have
to really look deeper into some of the issues that
they've had. They've really had one game where they got
dominated with the Cleveland Browns, but beyond that, there are
have been some decisions to just say, hey, listen, we're
(13:06):
gonna really we're gonna really try to take like the
Cowboys friends, and we're really gonna let you run the
ball on us. We're gonna really try to take away
and focus on Ceedee Lamb and and focus on the
wide receivers they have Alamari Cooper and all that. So
some of that stuff sometimes lends itself to game planning
specifically because every game is a little bit different. But
if you look, other than the Broncost game a couple
(13:27):
of weeks ago, they've actually, since their bye week, have
been pretty good at defending the run. So I think
they have the opportunity to be a complete team this week.
They have to overcome another hurdle because Keenan Allen, who's
one of the best, most underrated receivers in football, kind
of the actuator of their football team, not gonna play today.
So who brings that energy, who brings that production? Um,
(13:48):
it'll be interesting see exactly you know how that how
that plays itself out. Yeah, Keenan Allen Mike Williams both
out of the line up a huge hit for this
Chargers offense. On the other side of the fence, you
got issues that quarterback for the Giants. So is this
going to be an offense really rely on se Kwon
Barkley to to do the bulk of the work for them. Yeah,
(14:10):
I don't know how you can, rich. I mean, honestly,
when you watch film, Uh, DeVante Booker is a better
back right now, like a better, like a better, a
better pure running back. Obviously, state Kwon Barkley is still
a freak show athlete. But when you're talking about staying
ahead of the change, helping to protect a very you know,
a very suspect offensive line. You want a guy that
(14:31):
understands the value of four or five year runs, understands
the value of physicality and putting us in a position
um up front to being second down in six minus
and sa Kwan Barkley just is not that guy right now.
So you know, for him, it's more about getting him
in space, using him as a receiver, swing passes, screens,
maybe even you know, on the outside, as a number
(14:51):
one type of receiver. You know, move him out there,
see if you can get a you know, a tell
on man coverage. You get a linebacker, our safety out
there and have him running around, but get ball in
his handsome space. But like if I'm calling plays, man,
I want Booker to be my Bilt out back. I
want him to punish some people. So that's kind of
one of the That's kind of one of the situations
that I think it's really interesting to see how this
(15:12):
plays out, because frankly, running between the tackles is not
saying right now, I'm really a headline in the New
York Daily News mark that says Giants coach Joe Judge
isn't fooling anyone. Uh. Jason Garrett obviously took the fall
as their offensive coordinator. Is this a head coach that
will be looking for work after the season is over.
(15:35):
I think that's definitely impossibility. I mean you look at
the last couple of coaches, whether it was um, what
is it, Bob McAdoo and and uh and Pat Shermer.
I mean they haven't lasted I don't think into their
third year. So, um, this is not a very good
football team right now. Um, they've got their struggles. They've
had a lot of ton of injuries. But you know,
you can go back through it last year with Jason Garrett.
(15:56):
You know, Jason Garrett is kind of a wide zone.
That's what he wants to run the play actions off
of that. And obviously, you know he had his Mark
Colombo was his offensive line coach. Joe Judge and Mark
Colombo didn't get along, so they changed kind of that.
They fired him, and you know, and then they changed
the way they want to run the offense, and you know,
and and asked Joe Judge esks uh, Jason Garrett to
(16:19):
to change that and do something different that really wasn't
their forte they haven't. They've struggled with that ever since.
And uh, you know, and then then you've you've had
multiple offensive line coaches. I think they're on the third
and fourth offensive line coach working together in tandem now
a new play caller and Freddie Kitchens. Um, you know,
and you've dropped from eight teen points a game to
(16:40):
eleven points a game since you fired Jason Garrett. So
con nuity is important, man, and and they have not
had it. Um. They haven't had it from a player's standpoint,
and they certainly haven't had from a coaching standpoint. There's
an in factor with head coaches. We talked about that
with quarterbacks all the time, but there there's something to
be said about the culture creator that head coach and
to be. And I look around at first year head
(17:02):
coaches in this league and I think, like, well, Dan Campbell,
that's a guy who kind of has it. I don't
know what it is, but it's a losing football team,
but those guys play hard. I look at urban Meyer
with Jacksonville, and I'm not sure if he has it
at that at this level. I look at Brandon Staley
and I'm a little bit on the fence. I think
he has it. Where are you at with Brandon Staley
in the job that he's done with the Chargers? Um,
(17:26):
I'm really, I'm really a huge fan. Um. He is.
He is bright, intelligent, loves his loves his players, puts
them in positions to win. Those guys, Um, those guys
really they really gravitate toward him, towards his leadership, the
way he creates, you know, a culture of responsibility, but
(17:48):
of you know, his two monitors, and he doesn't have
a bunch of things hanging up in the locker room
or anything. He has about relationship and competition, um. And
and those are the things that he preaches. He's pretty
simple when it comes to that stuff. But really, you know,
really does a good job of tying together and trying
to create a complimentary football team. And as you know,
it takes time, right, it takes time to build the
(18:10):
team the way you want it. Um. But here's what
here's what I love like. Culture is not static, it's alive,
it's moving every day and you've got to work on
it every single day. And there's certainly a sense with
this Charge this team that they work on that and
their young quarterback man is as cool as I mean
he is. He is incredibly talented, as you guys know. Um,
(18:33):
but he has a way of he has a way
of in his own mind, I think, keeping it simple.
Like he just has a way about him of knowing
what he wants to do, what he wants to accomplish,
what he wants to accomplish, but not over complicating things.
He just has a way about saying, hey, man, if
you know, if we're running this play, um, this is
(18:53):
what I'm looking at. You know, I'm I'm putting one
dude in conflict. And if this guy plays low, I'm
gonna throw it high. If he plays Hi'm gonna throw
it low. And I keep it that simple. And um,
I think it's one of the reasons he's been so successful.
He hasn't tried to overcomplicate the game. Yeah. And then
and the other thing, mark uh. Closing note here is
that in some of his postgame press conferences, whether they
(19:16):
win or lose, he already has an appreciation and a
veteran like yourself or Rich understands this. You just anyway
you can win a game, you want to win a game.
It's it's just a bottom light you get a W
you get an L. And he seems to have gotten that, like,
I don't care how we get there. It's He's even
said this a couple of times. It's hard to win
(19:36):
in the NFL against anybody. Everything has to come together
to get the W. There's a level of maturity there.
It's going to serve the Charger as well for many
years to come. Mark. It is always great to catch
up with you. You know, Rich gets excited Mark every
time you're on. I mean one of me, hente, one
of my own. I love it. Well, yeah, I'll leave
(19:58):
you with this thought. The game doesn't or how you
win it, Um, it doesn't. So and they're very much
that way here with the Chargers. Is we just gotta
win it. We gotta win it. However that is we
don't care. So there is that. There's again that goes
back to culture. There's an unselfishness about understanding that it's
there's no right way to do it. We just have
(20:20):
to win it. Exactly when does a team lose as
a team, Mark, we always appreciate it. Thanks so much,
my pleasure to take care, Mark Slayrath. There the Fox
NFL analysts will be working that Chargers game against the Giants.
By the way, real credit card questions or card real people,
someone who understands your issues and works to resolve them
with you. And that's why Discover offers helpful US based
(20:41):
representatives available seven Discover exceptionally common sense. All right, let's
catch up on the score board right now. Seven games
going on in the NFL. The Browns have a three
nothing early lead against the Ravens, tightens up seven nothing
on the Jaguars, chief seven nothing over the Raiders. Saints
have an early three nothing leading against the Jets. Cowboys
up three nothing over the Washington football team. How about
(21:04):
the Panthers and Falcons scoring Banan's already seven seven and
that matchup and the Texans leading the Seahawks seventh three.
So we got scores around the National Football League. But
you know, just getting back to Justin Herbert and the
maturity of this guy. On Tuesday, I was at the
College Football Hall of Fame ceremony and they give out
what they call the Campbell Award. It's like the academic Heisman.
(21:26):
He won this a couple of years ago at the
University of Oregon. He's a very bright guy, but his
maturity win or loose. I mean, they've had some ugly losses,
they've had some exciting wins this year, but there is
a certain level of coolness and understanding that it's hard
to win in the NFL. Appreciate it when you get
a w and when you don't. Let's get back to
the drawing board and figure this thing out. Everybody's had
(21:48):
a friend who you know, grew up under tough circumstances, right,
maybe maybe in and out of family relationships because of
parent leaving in divorce or passing away, living with grandparents,
maybe foster care. Like every like, everybody has that one
guy who's who's sort of walked the tough road and
(22:09):
on the other side of it has been better for it.
And that's justin Herbert. From a coaching standpoint, this guy
has never had stability, right He he since high school.
He hasn't had the same head coach and offensive coordinator
pairing contiguously a single year of football since he left
high school. Think about that, his entire career through Oregon.
(22:30):
His first year with the Charges, last year, staff completely fired.
New staff comes in with Brandon stand Stanley. He's he's
never had any sort of continuity and you would say, well,
many quarterbacks they wilt under those circumstances. He's really thrived.
And so instead of using it as an excuse for
the reason why, jeez, you know, hard down on my luck.
(22:51):
You know, I can't really get any consistency. He's become
a better player as a result of it. And so
I can't wait to see what this guy looks like
in year three, year four, year five. I've if if
Coach Daily stays there, because if he does, it'll be
the first time he's had the same voice in the
room in seven years, which is insane. All right, let's
(23:11):
find out what's trending right now. Look who's in the
house passing out food today? Yeah, I got a chocolate
for David Gascott. What happened here? A little hungover? Wo
Yeah sure, sure, sure happens burning the wicket. But so
you wake up today, you had to work, and you
just grab a bunch of stuff for Everybody's what you
(23:33):
basically did add a call in audible with the line
of scrimmage. Whole Foods decided to not notify myself for
Iowa Sam that they do not do breakfast burritos anymore.
What what happened there, like showcasing Champagne in their hot
food section. We demand biscuits and burritos. Well, well, well
we don't get him anymore because sucks. Well they pulled
(23:55):
because I had one of their breakfast burritos. They were
really good. During the pandemic they weren't making then they
went back to making them, and now they're not making them. Disappointment, Yeah,
speaking of that guy's um trait. Lions have had six
players placed in the reserve COVID nineteen list the past week,
and now they have twelve others and six coaches who
are battling the flu. They head into this game against
(24:16):
the dimmer Broncos today with a bunch of guys gonna
be out and that includes running back Jamal Williams. With
that being said, in the NBA, zat Lavine Trey Brown
Junior um Chicago's got nine players the Bulls do that
are in health and safety protocol, So they have a
bunch of guys that are missing in action. Back to
the National Football League, we go, Brown's driving again. They
lead Baltimore three nothing, Tennessee seven nothing over Jacksonville. Kansas
(24:39):
City just scored Patrick Mahomes a touchdown pass fourteen nothing
over Las Vegas Saints three nothing over the New York Jets. Guys,
all right, thank you very much, David. And by the way,
we are brought to you by one of our favorite cities,
Las Vegas, the greatest arena on Earth. Planning your trip
today a visit Las Vegas dot com. I was out
there on Tuesday for the National Football Foundation College Football
(25:02):
Hall of Fame Dinner extravaganza. Uh it was mind blowing.
I mean, how many people were there? Was the hugest
dinner because they had a combined to Hall of Fame
classes with the cancelation of the dinner the year before
where it normally is in New York. And uh wow,
it was just like a Who's who? I didn't really what.
Tony Romo was there, Carson Palmer, my dear friend, Eric
(25:23):
Dickerson was out there, Eric Crouch. I mean, it was
just literally if you were a college football junkie like
I am, Palmer Palmer was there. Thank you for listening
because I said his name, But I appreciate that I'm
here you are, Dicker said, yes, Eric Crott, Should I
say that? Uh? No, it was It was a lot
(25:43):
of fun, and and and and Bob Stoops. They always
the way they do that. You don't have thirty people speak, obviously,
they choose one speaker for the whole class, and this
was one speaker for both classes. And Bob Stoops with
the Oklahoma coach, made the speech on behalf of both
Hall of Fame classes. And the thing you would appreciate
as a man that played the game, he just he
basically told people why it is that football matters so
(26:07):
much to certain people? What is it about the nature
of the sport. What is it about the camaraderie of
the players, the coaches, the process of putting games together.
Where at the high school, college, pro level? What it
is about football that hooks people? And I thought he
did a great job just understanding of you if people
you know, a lot of not everyone gets the whole
(26:28):
football deal, Like what's this all about? And I thought
he really did a great job just explaining why football matters. Well,
you got to dedicate your life to others. If you're
going to be a good football player, you need to
rely on others to help you be a great or
good football player. I mean that's what it comes down to.
I look, there are great individual efforts, there's no question
(26:50):
about it. But think about a wide receiver uh paired
with a bad quarterback or a quarterback who's struggling, like,
for example, Odell Beckham Jr. And Baker Mayfield this season
before he moved on in trade. Like that's a perfect
example of how you absolutely need both there, there's there's
a there's no secret to this. That's the reason why
(27:11):
the best coaches in the history of the game have
relied on a great quarterback. Think about the best coaches
and then think about the quarterback they coached. Well, it's
just goes hand in hand right now, Andy Reid, he's
worked with Donovan McNabb. He's worked with Alex Smith, who
was pretty damn good. And now Patrick Mahomes. You got
Belichick worked with Tom Brady for two decades. Pete Carroll
worked with Russell Wilson, Mike Tomlin got the opportunity to
(27:34):
work with Ben Roethlisberger. The greats are always helped by grates,
and the same could be said about quarterbacks with their
wide receivers. Troy Aikman, he had Irvin, you know, Tom Brady,
he had Moss and a plethora of other talented receivers
along his path. You know, you have you have to
rely on others to have success. And if you don't,
(27:55):
if you can't play well in the sandbox, you can't
play the game. And so it's a relationship sport more
so than basketball, definitely more so than baseball. That's almost
an individual sport. Um, it's the ultimate team sport. All right,
let's get some of the highlights in. Here's a score
by the Panthers. Newton fikes the Hubbard will truck left
to the ten Newton Okay, okay, let's not touched out.
(28:19):
Pulpsuated it by pushing Jalen Hawkins into the end zone.
That was w BT and the Panthers radio network. But
the Falcons Ants are back. Here's Ryan hands to Patterson
left side. He'll score standing. Oh my goodness, Atlanta, who
is kind of knocking cracks in the wall of Carolina's defense.
It front Tolly burst through with Cordarol Patterson going five
(28:42):
yards for the score. Alright, the game Falcons radio networks.
So that game is tied seven seven, about a minute
and a a half to go in the first quarter. There Meanwhile,
the Chiefs are pouring it on early home sparking up
the calls right freck in front of the left of
the near Hash takes the snap, crows and the flat
tirl went. Fifteen time f Li touchdown cans Us City.
(29:05):
The Raiders still aren't covering. Darrell Williams. Yeah, one oh
six five the Wolf in the Chiefs Radio Network. So
just like that, fourteen nothing, Chiefs over the Raiders. Three
minutes to go on the first quarter. Uh, Cleveland looking
good right now. In the backfield it is Chuck. He
comes along the right side of Mayfield in the Shotgut
takes the snap, play action fake rollout right throws Wright,
(29:27):
It's caught. Landry's got a pretty touch for the pot
on touchdown. All right, Brown's Radio Network, ten nothing Brown's.
Earlier this week, I was listening to our buddy Colin Coward, Uh,
saying that the Browns have made up their mind. We're
not going to give franchise money to a quarterback like
Baker Mayfield. Today is a must game for the Browns.
There's six and six against the Ravens team that is
(29:50):
eight and four, and uh Mayfield right now, Rich off
to a hot start. He's nine of eleven seventies six
yards and that touchdown past we just heard, and I
always go back to this, is Baker Mayfield an elite quarterback? No,
but he was joining a team that was coming out
back to back seasons with a record of one and
thirty one. And the Browns have been significantly better with
(30:12):
Baker Mayfield than they have been since this franchise began
as an expansion franchise. I it's a tough question. I
don't know how much money you commit to him, but
I guarantee you this, based on what he has done,
there are a better team with him than without him.
Oh yeah, look, I mean they picked up his fifth
year option. I think they're going to see how this goes,
(30:33):
how next season goes, franchise tag him for a couple
of years, maybe if necessary. I could see this. I
could see them kicking the can down the road. There's
ways to do that. And Baker also understands this business.
I think i'd assume he's now a veteran of a
bunch of years in this league. You you can sort
of see the writing on the wall. It's not really
his time to start stomping his feed and and and
(30:57):
making a stand for the money like DC Pro Scott,
even on an injury, was in that situation because, yeah,
he's a franchise quarterback and hadn't really won a significant
postseason game for this team for this team yet. But
you look at the stats, you look at the offensive accomplishments,
and you say, are the Dallas Cowboys even close to
(31:17):
his exceptional as they looked? And they haven't uh in
the years that that he's been the quarterback, And the
answers no, So you have to pay that man his money.
Right now, Baker is a very competent franchise quarterback. He
needs to take the next step for anybody to entertain
the sort of big forty million dollar year contract that
a guy like Dr Scott based on where the Browns
(31:38):
were really for the entire history, since you're reborn as
an expansion franchise in as opposed to where they are
right now. Yeah, I agree that franchise quarterback doesn't mean
he's a Hall of Fame quarterback, but in terms of
the Browns, he's their best option. Seahawks trying to roll
back against the Texans. Two tight ends on the right
side and that's the side Penny coach to rights, three
(32:00):
stiff arms, a man down of the twenty. He's gonna
go fift t five touchdown Street Hawks rush Shot Penny
thirty two yards and a pict stiff farm and he
sticks it in the ends a Seahawks radio network Rashot
Penny near and dear to Rich and I Sandygo steak guy,
former first round pick up the Seahawks. He's had injury problems,
(32:22):
but he's still there and he keeps waiting because if
you look at his numbers since he's been in the NFL,
he has averaged five yards and carry. He just hasn't
been able to stay healthy. And today that you've got
thirty two yard touchdown runs, six carries, fifty nine yards
in that score for Rashad Penny. Yeah. Pe Carroll went
into this game talking about how he and Alex Collins
are gonna split reps today and uh really go based
(32:44):
off field. Whoever is having the hotter hand, he's gonna
stick with more so. And he loves Rashad Penny. He
loves him as a running back. It's just you fall
in love with a player for his talent, but then
you start thinking differently about him because of his durability.
And this is been the story of a lot of
professional football players, a lot of professional athletes you love
who they were in college, and then they get to
(33:06):
the league and they're often on the I R or
on the training room carpet instead of on the grass
of your practice fields, and that becomes a frustration. If
this guy can stay healthy, I'm telling you he was
like no other back I've ever witnessed in college football
that season. If you're board and you want to look
(33:26):
up a season like no other, look up Penny's final
season at San Diego State. I'm hoping the best for him,
and the Seattle team needs a spark, and this, this
type of talent, if he can stay healthy, can be
that spark. Cowboys have scored again touchdown past from Dak
Prescott to Mary Cooper plus a two point aversion, so
leven nothing Cowboys early lead on the Washington football team
(33:48):
three minutes to go in the first quarter. There, let's
hear that score. Snap the Freshcott back with time throws
in the back of the touchdown. Dallas, Dallas Cowboys d
on Network. All right, we're just locking in coming down
the first quarters of these seven games already underway around
the NFL. Keep it right here for all the information
(34:09):
you need. This is Fox Sports Reads One Radio. Hey
what's up everybody? It's me three time Pro Bowl La
Barrington and I couldn't be more excited to announce a
new podcast called Up on Game? What is Up on Game?
You asked, along with my fellow Pro bowler t J.
Hushman's OTTA and Super Bowl champion. That's right, Plexico Burds.
(34:29):
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with Me, LaVar Arrington, t J.
Hudgman's OTTA, and Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app,
Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast from. Ah.
(34:53):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, Steve Hartman and
Rich arm Burger with you right now. We got a
couple of game games that are teetering on blowout. Cowboys
that now have an eight teen nothing laid over the
Washington football team after a sack fumble of Taylor Hanoke
run back for a touchdown for the Cowboys. So they're
up eighteen nothing and the Chiefs are down to and
(35:16):
Chiefs just got in the end zone. Chiefs have scored
again twenty to nothing, penning the extra point as they
are doing a number on the hapless Las Vegas Raiders.
And by the way, a loss by the Raiders today
pretty much takes them out of playoff contention. There's just
too many teams competing for those final spots in the
(35:37):
a f C. It's all bunch together. I mean, think
about this right now. The Patriots are sitting there as
the one seed. They got four losses and we still
have four games left, So every single team in the
a f C has at least four losses already was
still a full month to play. That that a f
C is just twelve teams that are five hundred or
(35:59):
better out of sixteen going into this week. And and
you know, the Chiefs are a team that's getting exceedingly
hot at the right time. You know, the Miami Dolphins,
another team that's won five straight games. Quietly nobody's paying
attention after losing seven and row. The Dolphins have completely
turned around. Their season went out. Did you see the
rest of their schedule? They go one and oh, one
(36:22):
and seven, They could go ten and seven. They could
actually win their last nine in a row and then
you look at a team like the Patriots. It's well
documented now, especially after that win on the road at
Buffalo on Monday night. But I mean the a team
like Buffalo is an example of a team that absolutely
needs to win this week. A team like the Tennessee Titans,
(36:42):
like they can't play around. But right now we're we're
taking down the rest of the second quarter. They only
have a seven nothing lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars. I mean,
their their division title is in the balance here because
the Colts are right there in the rear view mirror.
By the way, Patrick Mahomes so far seven and nine
hundred and forty nine yards. That's better than twenty yards
(37:03):
a completion. He's got that touchdown pass. There are very
few absolute stats in the NFL, but there has been
an absolute stat for the Raiders this year. Derek Carr.
In games in which he has thrown for at least
three hundred yards, they're six and oh. When he's under
three hundred yards, they're o and six. And right now
he only has fifty six yards passing. With Tolman's to
(37:26):
go in the half, let's hear that chief score a
counter pitch. Now, left side hilarious trying to break the
tackles into the end zone. Loots side touchdown Tansas City.
What a counter pitch to c e h in the
Chiefs League twenty to nothing, one of six point five
the Wolf in the Chief's radio network at the extra
(37:46):
point twenty one nothing Chief's big lead early against the Raiders. Uh.
Watching Dallas right now, really do a number on this
Washington football team. Taylor Heineke has been awful so far.
Two of seven nineteen yards a pick. They have two
yards net rushing twenty two total yards. Here was Dallas's
(38:07):
latest score, empty gun for Heinechi. Fourth and two, back
to throw, rusting suck by Pustles cookba fuoble out recovered
by Dallas. They'll run it down the sideline chart strong
dancels in. That will be a Dallas touchdown. That's the
Dallas Cowboys radio network here Penn S Day guy Michael Parsons.
(38:28):
Uh if he doesn't win defensive rookie years because of
his teammate. Uh, you got the two best defensive rookies
on the same Dallas defense right now. Eighteen nothing Cowboys.
Also in the Ravens Browns game, Lamar Jackson came off
the field injured. Ryan. Do we have an update on that? Yeah? So, Uh.
(38:49):
The Ravens are officially ruling it an ankle injury. He
is officially questionable to return. He was seen limping to
the sidelines and then just a couple of minutes ago
was taken by a cart to the locker room. Officially questionable.
I'm not sure what that means. Officially, he may or
may not come back. Uh. Right now they need him.
The Ravens have no points, the Browns do, uh, and
(39:11):
their tend nothing lead over the Ravens. Baker Mayfield off
to a hot start eleven and thirteen eighty nine yards,
a touchdown and no picks. Lar Jackson was four for
four to start the game, but he only two for
seventeen yards, and right now the Ravens only have thirty
two totally yards. That's one of those teams. You look
at their record, it looks good eight and four. The
Ravens don't look like an eight and four team right
(39:32):
now when you look back on some of their wins.
Tucker sixty six yard field goal to beat the Lions.
They needed a miracle there. They come back against the
Chiefs when they have the fumble. They don't look like
a real eight and four team right now. Well well,
and if you look at the last three games that
Lamar Jackson has played, he's got three touchdowns to six interceptions.
(39:52):
I mean that tells you everything. And he's not being
well protected, and he's not making great decisions with the football.
He's he's he's just trying to make too much happen.
So sometimes it's offensive line and gives up sacks um
or or teams outschemed their past protection and he gets
hit when he shouldn't. And it's it's really strange what's
happened late in this season because he's pressed a lot.
(40:15):
And typically we're used to when Lamar Jackson or Patrick
Mahomes in years past, they start pressing, they make amazing
things happen. It hasn't been the case this year. I
think defenses have really caught up with that crew of
young quarterbacks from from that class five years ago. They
really have. They figured him out to a certain extent.
(40:35):
That's why we've seen the Chiefs offense somewhat suppressed this year,
and the same with the Baltimore Ravens, the Cowboys, Big
lad Over Washington's interesting because Mike McCarthy said on Thursday,
we're gonna win this game. I'm confident in that, and
that prompted Ron Rivera to say calling that a big mistake. Well,
(40:55):
how about this. The Cowboys brought in their own heated
benches to FedEx Field. They're in in Landover, so they
actually went through the expense of bringing their own heated
benches to this game on the road. Well, you don't
(41:15):
trust the heated benches and FedEx, Fie, you can count
on me. Old Jared set up my players for a victory.
It doesn't matter. I want my star prominently displayed on
our sideline. Well, whatever they're doing, it's working right now
because the Cowboys are off to an eighteen. Nothing laid
in that game. All right? To continue everything going around
the NFL Week four team, keep it here on Fox
Sports Red Zone Radio. How about that. Fox Sports Radio
(41:40):

all of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com
and within the I Heart Radio app search f s
R to listen live. Brown's load up on the right side,
makefield turns, and now he's gonna keep it. He's gonna
throw it. Hopers touchdown, that is the Browns Radio Network
(42:01):
and Baker Mayfield is having a day fourteen of sixteen
hundred twenty six yards, two touchdowns, no picks, and the
Browns up big over the Ravens seventeen to nothing. Absolute
must game for the Browns coming in and they are
delivering in a big way. The Ravens only have thirty
nine total yards in this game with seven and a
(42:24):
half minutes to go on the first half. They have
zero offense. Lamark Jackson out with an injury, so it
is all Browns right now. Meanwhile, the Falcons are showing life.
Here's Newton. He's gonna throw quick shot, intercepted Michael Walker
and he's got road in front of him. Walker will
score fifteen ten five up pick six off Cam Newton
(42:47):
in Atlanta leads nine the game. Falcons Radio Network and
the Falcons leading that game fourteen to seven. Both the
Falcons and Panthers rich coming in at five and seven
and and trying to stay alive. Although in the NFC
it's been top heavy, you got four or five teams
at the top, but it's realistic that a nine and
(43:10):
eight team could get in. Remember, we got a seventeen
game schedule now, but a nine and eight team could
definitely sneak in as a wild card in the NFC.
So even if coming into the week five and seven
doesn't sound great, but hey, get a few wins at
the end of the year, you might be able to
sneak in. That's what we got going on with the
Falcons on the road against the Panthers. Yeah, the Falcons
(43:30):
certainly are not dead in the water yet. There's a
lot of teams just like that both conferences. Frankly, it's
been wide open. I will say this about the top
of the conference. In the NFC, it feels more sturdy.
It feels more obvious, you know what I mean. You
got Tampa Bay up there. You've got Green Bay up there.
You got the Cardinals who have been great all season long,
(43:50):
even when Kylin Murray was out with injury. Two in
one record for Colton McCoy filling in Cliff Kingsbury. How's
that team humming right now out So, yeah, like the
top of the NFC seems more stable to me because
then you look over at the a f C and
it's sort of, I don't know, it just feels and
maybe maybe you feel differently about it, But it just
(44:14):
feels like there's more room for error, Like you have
the Patriots and you have the Titans, and I'm forgetting,
what is it the Bills up there? Bill in third place.
It just sort of feels like there's there's room for
one of these teams to fall out of favor. On
the FC side, Well, one team not falling out of
favor today is the Chiefs. Josh Gordon, Josh Gordon, a
(44:37):
little short one yard touchdown reception from Patrick Mahomes twenty
eight to nothing. She's slaughtering the Raiders right now, still
six minutes to go in the first half of that game. Uh,
there's another game I wanted to ask you about here,
Rich the Saints on the road against the Jets. This
game is ugly as advertised. Three three tie right now,
(44:57):
seven minutes to go in the first half. The Saints
have their first five game losing streak ever under Sean Payton.
If he just listened to us when we said when
Jamis Winston won down called Philip Rivers put him in there,
I guarantee you they would not have lost five straight games.
They are discombobulated right now. They can't even you know,
(45:18):
do anything against this Jets team that's absolutely going nowhere.
What's next for the Saints? Are you roll the dice?
Hope Jamie Winston will come back? I know there's another
quarterback they have that has proven he's not a starting
quarterback in this league? Would Tay some Hill? What exactly
should the Saints be looking to do to get them
back on track? Well, here's two things. One, we did
(45:40):
this a lot more with Belichick and Brady. When the
breakup occurred and Brady left New England for Tampa Bay,
it was like, who who really lad the greatness there
in New England? Was it Brady or Belichick? And the
reason why we all did that is because it was
hard to really decipher. I think it's a bit easier
when you look at the Saints and you look at
Drew Brees and the way he elevated that ball club.
(46:02):
Who was more important to their recent success? I mean
it was Drew Brees and and it was by a
landslide because the Saints in his time there actually had
some really bad years where Drew was still throwing for
a close to our over five thousand yards, but they
just weren't a very good team. And so from from
that standpoint. You know, you can't really look at any
one given year where Brady and Belichick were together, where
(46:25):
the Patriots were just a god awful team. It just
didn't happen. But it happened with Drew Brees, and maybe
some of his best years were wasted on some really
poor teams in New Orleans. And so he'll still retire
or he did retire, and he's a Hall of Famer.
But I don't think Sean Payton is all that great
of a coach. I really don't. I mean, don't get
me wrong. He had a great quarterback and he won
(46:47):
a super Bowl with him, but you could argue with
a quarter back like Drew Brees, he probably should have
won more. Yeah. Well, Tassan Hill is quarterbacking today. Net
passing yards today, eighteen net passing yards. I'm just putting
it out there. But a lot of people the way
they viewed Mike McCarthy is valid, and it's becoming more
(47:11):
and more the way I viewed Sean Payton. I mean
that made who? Who made who? And we had that
question a year ago about Belichick and Brady, and Belichick said,
not so fast. Look where I got my team right now?
By the way, for the Jets, Zach Wilson is three
of third team for twenty five yards. Okay, so you
use the second overall pick in the draft to replace
(47:32):
Sam Donald with Zack Wilson. And I'm gonna be generous
to Zach Wilson by saying that's pretty much a wash
that the quarterback position is not the reason the Jets
have been bad the last couple of years. There are
a lot other problems for them to designate Zach Wilson
with all due respect, and you saw him play for
(47:52):
a couple of years at b y U. Remember they
had five games scheduled against Pack twelve schools that were
all canceled. They had to replace him with a bunch
of no name teams. He rolled up some really impressive numbers.
I know he looked pretty good in the preseason, but
when you're on a bad team, he just seems overwhelmed. Yeah. Yeah, well,
(48:14):
and he's and he got injured for a long stretch
during this season, so he missed out on some valuable experience.
It really the Jets. They have so many more problems
than the quarterback position that I don't think, honestly, I
don't think it gets fixed during the Salah era. I.
I don't see how they get this much work done. Uh,
(48:37):
and give a head coach this much leash to get
it done. I I I feel like the Chiefs are
still spiraling, and it's and it's seeming more and more
out of control. Uh, speaking out of control, the Chiefs
are out of control. Past Josh Gordon touched out Kansas
City on a tunnel screen from less than one yard out,
(48:58):
and Shosh Gordon gets the taste the sweet neckert of
the end zone for the first time in his Kansas
City Chief's career. Well, at six five, the Wolf and
the Chiefs radio network, how many people how about that?
Started laughing? Yeah, you know, twenty eight nothing Chiefs right now.
(49:19):
If that wasn't bad enough, the Chiefs have the ball
back because after the ensuing kickoff, Las Vegas started driving
through a past to Hunter Renfro He gets a fumble,
force Chiefs recover, so they're back on the Raiders side
of the field with four minutes fifty eight left in
this half. They could score again real quick here and
put this game completely completely away before the Raiders even
(49:42):
get off the bus. I don't I don't know where
the Raiders are, but they're not in Kansas City yet.
They're somewhere. There's somewhere. Uh, their buses broken down in
in in Oklahoma. They're still fighting their way through the
middle of this country to get to this game. Uh.
The Titans are late in the Jaguars ten and at
the we've got two minutes to go in the half
(50:02):
two minute warning, the Jaguars have forty eight total yards
and three first downs. So it's not going well. I
mean this Urban Meyers situation. Now, Urban Meyers says, I'd
never call them losers, but yeah, I'm tough on my coaches,
easy to go away. Real quote. Listen, he's just look
(50:25):
seem before these college coaches that have all this absolute
power that they get to the NFL, it's a different beast.
It's like it was like an immune system. Yeah, okay,
college football, a bad player can stay on scholarship for
for five years, because the problem is if you start
taking scholarships away from players, recruits will stop coming to
(50:46):
your school in fear that maybe one day they'll have
their scholarship taken away if they don't perform. Coaches in
college football get paid such exorbitant amounts of money. At
this point, you're going to suffer through some real bad
years in certain cases before before a school make a
decision on you. In some cases, some others, it's a
it's a little bit quicker of a hook. In the
(51:08):
NFL not for long, man that that acronym stands for
National Football League, but it also stands for not for long.
If you don't perform, you get gone. And Urban Meyer
is staring down the barrel of a very short tenure
as a head coach in this league, no question about that. Alright,
rolling along right now, protein halftimes in our first seven
(51:28):
games of the day. For all the information, scores, stats
and everything else, keep it right here. This is Fox

(51:51):
he is into the end zone, right side, Alvin Camara
sixteen yards touch down, New Orleans. Back live to the
studios of Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio.
All right, that's w w L Saints Radio Network. Saints
(52:14):
trying to snap that five game losing straight. Have a
tenth three lead inside a minute ago over the Jets
in the first half. There Steve Harbin and Rich Armburger.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio brought to buy
one of our favorite cities, Las Vegas, or home for
Live Sports. That means all sports, every game, match, race
and competition. It is always on. Now go on and
(52:37):
plan your trip at visit Las Vegas dot com to
see the best and brightest in Vegas, the greatest area
on Earth. And yes, I was in Vegas, hadn't been
there in a couple of years. And yeah, it's always nice.
It's one thing about Vegas. It's always a unique place
to go over there countless time. Las Vegas is one
of those places. It just is whatever you're looking for exactly.
Trust me when I tell you it doesn't matter what
(52:58):
spectrum you're leaning toward, you'll find it in Las Vegas. So,
speaking of which, Las Vegas just isn't finding anything they're
looking for. In Kansas City right now, the Raiders are
trailing the Chiefs twenty eight nothing. I mean, this is
a blowout. It's the kind of blowout where you you'll
look at the score at the end of the game,
I presume, and it'll look bad. But if you watch
(53:21):
this game, if you have along with us or listen
to us talk about it. The Chiefs are so dominant
in this first half. I'm I'm like, the Raiders have
barely possessed the ball. They when they have, they've they've
been uh, they've been turned over I think twice maybe
turnovers three turnovers at this point, and the Chiefs offense
(53:41):
is finally looking like the Chief's offense. They're scoring at will,
they're getting different players involved. Patrick Mahomes has been well protected.
It's clicking in at the right time for Kansas City. Yeah,
three turnovers on the road against the Chiefs is not
a good formula. And right now, the Chiefs are already
inside the Raiders twenty yard line there in the red zone,
(54:01):
down of the fifteen yard line, looking to add on
to their twenty eight and nothing lead as we're inside
two minutes ago in the first half. All right, it's
it's it's that time of the year, you know, Week
fourteen of the NFL, which we were talking about this
last week. Normally the month of December is the wrap
up of the regular season. Then you flip the page,
(54:22):
uh to the postseason. But that's not the case anymore.
With an eighteen week schedule, the last Sunday of the NFL.
Remember that last week everybody plays on Sunday is January nine.
And to show you have times have changed. When the
Raiders won their very first super Bowl, super Bowl eleven
at the Rose Bowl, John Madden's one win is as
(54:43):
a head coach in the Super Bowl beating the Vikings
that day. The date of that game was January nine.
That was the date of the Super Bowl was January nine.
That will be the date of Week eighteen regular season
in the NFL. So this is the span its schedule.
You've you've told me you don't think it's that big
of a deal. You know, once you're into the weekly grind,
(55:06):
sixteen seventeen games, seventeen eighteen weeks, it doesn't really matter
how much further can you push it? Can you go
eighteen weeks? Can you go nineteen? Can you go twenty games?
How many more games can you add on to this schedule? Well,
I'll say this, in in a single season, in that vacuum,
it doesn't matter all that much, right, adding one regular
(55:27):
season game, I mean, because they're gonna be certain teams
who will and be able to rest starters they'll be
certain teams who you know, uh can sort of coach
to the finish because they know what they're seating is.
Don't get me wrong, it's going to create an opportunity
for another team to sneak in there. Like we're talking
about a nine and eight record will most likely get
(55:48):
one of these teams into the postseason this season the
way it's all panned out. But having said all of that,
it's just gonna be over the years. It's going to
have a compilation effect. You play one more game each
season for four seasons, well that's a fourth of a
sixteen game season, you know, So it's going to have
(56:09):
an additive effect at the end of a football player's career.
Will probably see shorter careers for positions like running back
and positions like offensive line and linebacker, positions where there
is a lot of heavy physical contact on every single play.
And you know, that's sort of gonna get lost in
(56:30):
the conversation because people just love watching more football. So
if it doesn't dilute the product, which it doesn't appear
to have diluted the product, I don't think anybody out
there is complaining from a fan standpoint in terms of
having an extra week of the regular season. By the way,
the Chiefs just got in on another score a rush
(56:50):
and so they're up thirty five nothing on the Raiders
right now. Yeah, thirty five nothing. Also, Cleveland a Miles
Garrett fumble return for a touchdown and they are twenty
four three now over the Ravens. So wow, that was
a musk game for Cleveland. Today has been a musk
game for Cleveland and they are now up twenty four
three in that game. And as you said, it's just
(57:12):
embarrassing what's happened to the Raiders today. It was Clyde
Edwards Hilaire, by the way, second touchdown of the second touchdown,
five touchdowns in the first half, thirty five nothing in
the lean. Uh, what what do you say at halftime
when you're down thirty five nothing? What's your what's your
speech for the Raiders? Well, if you're Rich Bisaccia, you
know I do get angry or say I'd be a
(57:34):
little upset. I would express disappointment with the team. I
would say, look, you know, I think everybody in this
room knows what happened in the first first half. We
got our asses kicked. And if you're any kind of man,
any kind of football player. You want to go out
there and prove that that you're not that team. I
don't know who showed up in the first half, but
that isn't the Raiders. We gotta go out and play
better football. And and that's true. I mean, in all
(57:57):
phases of the game, they've gotten sound beaten by a
Kansas City Chiefs. Are you one of those players that
would get up and get angry your teammates after a
bad half and I'm gonna tear your apart. You weren't
that kind of a guy Everybodyeah, I'm sure he had
teammates like that, though, well there were. It's rarer in
the NFL then, really, yeah, because everybody's a professional. Everybody
(58:18):
is expected to do their job, and if you do
an unprofessional job all the Raiders have shown in this
first half. Don't get me wrong. I've been in locker
rooms where the meltdowns start occurring on a game day,
it can get pretty ugly. I got some stories to tell.
I don't know if I'm telling them on air, but
it can get pretty ugly, especially a season like this
where things started out so hopeful and then by virtue
(58:41):
of things that nobody could control in that locker room.
John Gruden the way he ended up having to hand
in his resignation. Henry Ruggs, one of their star offensive players,
gets into an accident where he took a life in
an alleged drunk driving accident. I mean the wheels have
come off just from the standpoint of of keeping your
(59:03):
personnel and coaches in the building, let alone the play
on the field. So it just I mean, from all standpoints,
doesn't seem like their year. All right, let's hear a
Seahawks score. Russell sliding to his right side stops look
strongs got him out out there, locker right open, touchdown
stray Hawks. How in the world just tider lock it
(59:25):
get open? As he hits the deck and swims the
rest of the way to fifty five yard rainbow by
Russell Wilson, Seahawks Radio Network. He gets open because he's
playing the Texans. By the way, first missed extra point
of the day courtesy of those Seahawks. So they missed
the extra points sixteen to ten. Now, Rich, we start
(59:47):
the day and we tell Ryan, our producer, that we
can spotlight three games because we have multiple TVs watching
all the games out here, and the three games we
targeted were the obvious games Brown's Ravens, Chiefs, Raiders, Cowboys,
Washington football team. Browns are leading, Cheese are up thirty
five nothing, Cowboys are up twenty one nothing. So the
(01:00:08):
three Marquee games are like, okay, these are these are
the must They're all right, you know, the divisional games
and everything else. All three of these games are blowouts
in the first album, Yeah, and two of them are shutouts.
For crying out loud, Dallas leading twenty one nothing against
Washington in Washington, Kansas City hosting the Raiders. On the
Ravens do have a field goal. Okay, yeah, okay, no, no, no,
(01:00:30):
that's what I'm saying. No, the two of the two
of the three are shutouts. Let's put it away. The
combined score of those games is eighty two three in
the first half. Alright, So we have to turn our
attention into some of the other games. Although first here's
yet another brown score. Huckley takes the shotgun, snapped back
to pass. Let's the ball got sticked away, hit me
(01:00:50):
out of the Browns fight for the ball and it's
picked up by Biles. He's got a score touchdown Browns
Radio Network, twenty four to three, Browns leading the Ravens.
Lamar jackson out of this game. My guess is down
and they half probably not gonna see Lamar the rest
of the way. So the Browns at home needing a win.
(01:01:13):
Looks like they're on their way, leading this game by
a score of twenty four to three halftime with the
Titans and the Jaguars. And you gotta feel for Trevor Lawrence.
You know, he's ten of twelve, Rich's ninety three yards,
hasn't thrown an interception, the running game has produced eight
yards total in this game. They're down ten nothing. They
(01:01:36):
don't have much of an offense. When you think about
the investment if you made an ownership in Trevor Lawrence,
who obviously has the talent to become a success in
the NFL. But how much damage could be done if
you keep urban Meyer in is a head coach? Well, look,
there is no doubting the fact that urban Meyer's whole
(01:01:56):
job with the Jacksonville Jaguars is depending on how well
he can get Trevor Lawrence playing and how quickly he
can get him playing well. And right now, Trevor Lawrence
very much so looks like a rookie, and his contemporaries
in certain cases don't. Mac Jones is playing the position
like a veteran. He's on a winning football team. He's
(01:02:16):
in a much more stable culture. Do you like his
three pass victory? Yeah, listening whatever it takes to win
and winning ugly in that kind of weather is exactly
what you mean. Mac Jones is six and o on
the road. Yeah, to start his NFL core He is
six and oh as a starting quarterback on the road
to start his NFL career. This is like a broken record.
(01:02:37):
More Chiefs highlights. Edward gets the hand off off, the
first head off, the second half of the third d
head end of the sweet nectar, the end zone touchdown,
chance City Clyde Edwards Hilaire his second rushing touchdown, this
time breaking three Raider tackles one oh six point five.
The Wolf and the Chief's radio network. A lot of
(01:02:58):
sweet nectar at Ofctor out there, a lot of sweet
nectar going on thirty five nothing Chiefs over the Raiders.
Uh with a minute to go there. But yeah, I again,
when you when you invest in any young quarterback, and
we've always said this about quarterbacks and really the majority
(01:03:19):
of players I say, in the NFL, and I mean
the majority of the players. Yeah, there are super talents
that come into the league whatever their position might be,
and they'd be successful no matter where they go. But
so much of success in the NFL right place, right time,
right system, right everything. I've said, half more than half
the guys in the Hall of Fame are there because
they were in the right place, right system at the
(01:03:41):
right time. Well, and if you look at Trevor Lawrence,
I mean the jury is still out whether or not
he's the right player, you know what I mean. So, yeah,
all of the situational things and fit for quarterback especially
are super super important, but also you need to be
the right guy, and we're not sure yet if he's
the right guy. It just it's the nature of the business.
(01:04:03):
At the professional level. Once you graduate from college, you're
now playing with men who have dedicated their life on
the coaching side to stopping what you're trying to get accomplished,
and then men on the playing side who have been
out there in some cases for five years, eight years
a decade, winning Pro Bowl after Pro Bowl. While you
were still in elementary school, you know, so it's tough
(01:04:25):
to win in this league, and not everybody who's as
talented as Trevor Lawrence in college ranks has that talent
translate to the NFL level. So we'll find out who
he is over the years, but right now in Jacksonville
this year, I mean, he's got you know, the bottom
of the league in in categories and statistics. If you
(01:04:45):
watch the games, you can see the lights are on
and he's trying to make things happen, but statistically he's
one of the worst playing right now. All right, Uh,
it is coming at halftime around the NFL with the
early games, which means it's a perfect time right now
to find out what's trending a superstar, no matter where
he is. David Gascon, Hey, you guys, Uh, how about
(01:05:07):
this for being in the digital world. You know, earlier
this week with the hack of Amazon and a the
a WS systems going down, I was calling an international
game um in Germany, this international hockey game, and obviously
it's all digital, right, So the company that I was
(01:05:29):
working for is part and they partnered with with the
Amazon on this like eight games, all of them ghosted,
just dark, and it was pretty fascinating because you know,
obviously production companies put in a boatload of money and
time and resources. So did you just make things up? No,
stay in the air with nothing to call. It was dark,
so we couldn't connect to their servers, and the only
(01:05:51):
thing being shown was the camera. There was one camera
at center ice and that was it. That was the
only thing that was working. But this is the genius
of you as a broadcast. What's that You can make
something out of nothing. That's right, that's right. Gotta gotta
go abroad. Things are working, you know? Um, are we
(01:06:12):
just turning all the TV's off? I mean when we
were like, not not much. I mean that the three
biggest games we had going into the day literally blow us.
None of them are good. I mean, we have one
game that's competitive. That's Seattle in Houston. Yeah, uh, Seahawks
up sixteen three is a score. Carolina replaces Cam Newton.
(01:06:33):
He's done for the day. It looks like it. Line
up seventeen seven right now. P J. Walker into the contest.
Cowboys twenty one zip over Washington, Saints ten six over
the jet that's a game. That's a game. Kansas CEA
thirty five nothing or the Lost Matures. I I love this, Yeah,
absolutely love it. G Producing my show yesterday, Big Raiders, guys,
(01:06:57):
I was very confident the Raider is gonna make get
game of this. Not even close. It was like over
seventeen seconds into that affair, Tennessee tend nothing over Jacksonville
Brown six over Baltimore. Lamar Jackson removed from this game
with an ankle injury, was carved off and taken to
the locker room. Guys, if Cleveland wins this ball game,
it'll be interesting because Baltimore fall to eating five, but
(01:07:20):
they'll be They'll only have one win in the division.
When you look at the division standings, Baltimore will go
to one and three in the division. Cincinnati currently is
at three and one in the division, and Cleveland will
move to two and two in the division. So it's
jumbled up already, Baltimore eating four in Cleveland and Pittsburgh
right now in third and fourth place, respectively, or six
six and one and six six and oh so I mean,
(01:07:42):
I mean, for as ugly as that division has been,
it'll be a dog fight, no pun in ten to
we get to the end of the regular season. At
least that'll be competitive. Well absolutely. I mean when you
look at the a f C right now, only three
teams are out the Jets, Texans, and Jaguars, So you've
got thirteen teams. And by the way, number thirteen is
my Ami. He's won five straight games after losing seven
(01:08:03):
straight games, So they're certainly not out of it going
in today, Browns or six and Nicks, uh six and six, Broncos,
Steelers after their loss on Thursday, six six and one,
right or six and six Colts, seven and six, Bills, Bengals,
Chargers all at seven and five. I mean, they're all
bunched together. Uh So at the end, you know what happens,
(01:08:23):
You get a lucky break here and there. I said this,
going back to a sixteen game schedule, there's not there's
not a lot of difference honestly between six and ten
and ten and six. A lot of times just a
few bounces your way can make a six and ten
team and tendant six team and vice versa. So ultimately,
I get a feeling when it's all said and downe
the seven teams that will come out of the a
(01:08:46):
f C into the playoffs, you're gonna see a couple
of teams below that you say, wow, they're probably better
right now than a couple of teams that's snuck in.
But that's the bounces of the NFL. Yeah, And that's
how it always is in sports. There there are probably
more deserving teams that are out of it than teams
that are in it. But you gotta win that that
(01:09:08):
this is such an easy equation when you boil it
down to what really matters. Just win baby w's and els,
and those who have more of those ws, they're gonna
get into the dance. It doesn't matter how good you
think you are, It doesn't matter how good your players are,
roster was or coaches think their plan was. If you
don't win those close games, like a perfect example that
(01:09:30):
you make the Minnesota Vikings. I mean that that just
it seems inexplicable to have that many close games fall
away from you. But that that's the difference between a
playoff team and a and A and a non playoff
team the Detroit Lions. If you have time, and uh,
you want your your board, and you want to look
(01:09:51):
at something that is just almost confounding, how many one
score losses they have and they have a lot of
losses this year. So you could go back and look
through a bunch of these games and the way these
games were decided, heartbreaker after heartbreaker after heartbreaker. I mean,
the Detroit Lions are pretty good football team. They're just
not winning close games. And if you don't, that's that's
(01:10:12):
what will slide you all the way into last last
place and get you eliminated by Week fifteen of the NFL. Well,
there's a constellation price the lines that would be the
number one overall pick. Now, they're not gonna find a
quarterback at number one, but there's some pretty good players.
You know, it's unfortunate for quarterback situations. We're reminded last
night with a Heisman Trophy ceremony is expected. Bryce Young
(01:10:33):
was a one runaway winner. You know, Kenny pick At,
a pit who had a great senior season, but he's
not being projected, certainly as a top five type quarterback.
None of these quarterbacks are. But then you look two
years from now and you see Bryce Young on the list,
and you see c. J. Strout on the list in
a couple of years. By the way, uh Will Anderson
(01:10:54):
the Linebacker album, and he has another year of college.
He's a true sophomore. He will not be coming out
in the draft. That's what he gets a little tricky,
like you look ahead and like, well, you know that
guy will be available in two years. But where are
we going right now? I think Aidan Hutchinson is going
to be a high pick obviously out of Michigan. There's
gonna be a few guys, but could could really I mean,
(01:11:17):
because of the pass rusher he is, could really help
the Detroit Lions gain some of that ground in that
division because you're playing against some well especially Aaron Rodgers,
really talented quarterback there. Kirk Cousins obviously as well. Uh
you know he has his moments and that's a high
powered passing offense with Justin Jefferson and Adam Feeling. So
(01:11:37):
you need a pass rush here. Every team needs one.
So if you get a great one who happens to
play in the same state right now, going to Michigan
coming to the Detroit Lions makes sense. But to your point, yeah,
maybe there is in a first round draft pick quarterback
that you're in love with, whether it's the guys you
just mentioned, or Carson Strong out of Nevada or Sam
how out of you and see there's a bunch of
(01:11:58):
names that are just sort of loading around there in
the middle of the first round. But maybe one of
those guys falls to the second round and then all
of a sudden, you get a guy who may be
more talented than his selection. Uh, proves he is and
that could be a turning point for the Detroit lines too.
We'll see we'll see you well. And again, this always
(01:12:19):
gets back to when you're drafting players, when you're training
for players, signing free agents. It's putting the right guys
in for the system that you have. And we've talked
about it and nauseum about why the Patriots have had
so much success, the ability to identify what it is
players do best and then put them in a position
to succeed. Let's pause a little bit. So the Patriots
(01:12:41):
are off this week. They've won seven in a row
after that too and four start. They have a rookie
quarterback that's six and on the road. They just beat
the Bills where their quarterback through three passes. The three
passes ran for over two hundred yards. The Bills are
in a state of shock that they end up losing
that game at home. Uh, when you look at the
Chiefs rolling that right now. I know we dream about
(01:13:04):
a possible New England Tampa Bay matchup in the Super Bowl,
be a game of the ages, Belichick versus Brady. Where
are you standing right now on this pagees team seven
wins in a roll? Are they the best team in
the a f C? Are the Chiefs a better team
right now? Where do you think the Patriots fit? The
Patriots are the best team in the NFL right now,
nflo um, because they're doing the things that you need
(01:13:27):
to do late in the season and into the postseason.
That that uh, that that every team needs to do,
and it's running the football well and playing great defense
because in the postseason you're gonna be playing outside and weather.
It's just it just is what it is. And the
Patriots right now are gonna host these games. So I mean,
if you have a great defense and you have a
(01:13:47):
great run game, that Bill's game. Yeah, they handed off
forty six times, but they averaged five yards per carry
four point eight yards per carreou So everybody's like, wow,
they really don't trust Mac Jones. No, no, no, it's
not that they don't trust Mac Jones. They didn't need
Mac Jones Okay, he completed sixty percent of the passes
he threw, by the way, which was only three Josh
(01:14:09):
Allen was on a team where his running backs were
rushing four yards per carry. Well, they put too much
of the game in his hands. It was a close
game the whole fair. He completed fifty percent of his passes,
So if you look at completion percentage, it tells you
a lot about the story. They overuse Josh Allen's arm
in that game, the Bills did. That's the reason why
they lost it. But back to the Patriots. Look, it's
(01:14:30):
about team, team victories, special teams, defense, run game, and
a good enough quarterback to help manage this offense. Patriots
have all that and obviously a coach of who has
been in the postseason a million times in Bill Belichick.
That's that's the best team in the NFL right now
in my opinion. So coming out there bye week next week,
they have a Saturday and there's two Saturday games, and
(01:14:52):
we got no college football now, so a couple of
Saturday games they'll be on the road against the Colts.
So that's obviously a big game for the Colts. Both
these teams coming off a bye week and then the
rest of the schedule of the Patriots, Bills at home,
Jaguars at home, and then they finish off at the Dolphins,
and that could get tricky because the Dolphins, who knows,
(01:15:13):
Dolphins continue this winning streak, that might be a big
game for them as well. But New England in pretty
good position right now. And remember only the top seed
gets that by. Only that used to be the top
two seeds, but with the added team with the wild card,
only the top team gets the by. And you know, Belichick,
we love to get that to get ready for the postseason.
(01:15:33):
All right. We got all the games pretty much at
halftime right now. By the way, Raiders are right back
in it. Raiders are back in. They got a field
goal before the half thirty three. Now she's hanging on
at halftime against the Raiders. Much more coming up. This
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, Fox Red Zone Radio,
(01:15:58):
and we've got the place that you may admits the calling.
It's open. Hubbard cuts left in Hubb to the Fox
Cuba Hover touchdown Carolina Panthers. Now back live to the
studios of Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone
(01:16:19):
Radio w BT and the Panthers Radio network yes, Panthers,
by the way, trailing the game seventeen fourteen. Now Atlanta
with the lead. We're into the third quarter. Seven games
going on around the National Football League Week fourteen. After
this week, no more buys. Everyone's gonna be fully into
(01:16:42):
their schedule. As you mentioned Thursday, I'm really looking forward
to this game. It's the first time I'm going to
actually go to a game at the new Sophi Stadium. Uh,
huge matchup. Chargers and the Chiefs, by the way, paid
heavily for those tickets. You know, the Chargers aren't gonna
do me any favors. No, have a long history of
that organization. So there there. You know, if you want
(01:17:05):
to come, you're gonna have to pay evoided. I pay
not only pay for the tickets, but parking as well. Yeah, yeah,
that's that's expensive anywhere you're going. Here's what I will say,
hundred dollars to part and I'm sure you've heard the
same thing. Um, the the experience, apparently it's so far
stadium is next to none. It is truly worth the
(01:17:28):
price tag that it costs to build it. From a
lot of six billion dollars from a lot of people,
I've heard discuss like I mean, I I've never heard
people pour over how much they enjoyed going to a
game the way many of the menu. Because if there
was any knock, the stadium, I hear is spectacular. I
can't wait to get inside, But the knock was on
(01:17:50):
the food early on. UM. I've always thought this and
and down where we are in San Diego during the week,
Petco Park, UH, and this new stadium that's to be
opening up down there, local vendors, Yeah, why don't you
do that? I mean, that's the way Instead of apparently
what they did they went to one source that's like
create a unique menu, and it got a collective thumbs
(01:18:12):
down from everybody. Yeah. Well, and you know that's part
of that's part of what now you need to do
to entice UH people to come to your venue. So
it's not just about the game on the field. It's
about and this is going to be tied into gambling
pretty soon here. It's the experience. Legalization of sports betting
happens from state to state. You're going to see more
(01:18:35):
and more of these venues integrate some sort of gambling
app You need to have these unique food service opportunities.
Premium seating all that stuff, and if you don't, you're
gonna lose out. There's gonna be an attrition rate because
people just watch at home. Let's hear from Mr Field
of Dreams himself. I was Sam who was there for
that speaking. Yes, it was a great highlight of my summer.
(01:18:57):
Speaking of fields though, snap Dragon state Dum snap Dragon.
How did we get to that name? Well, it's that's
that's the sponsors name. Snapped million dollars is how they
got there. Snap Yeah, okay, the snap what notout the dragon?
Not the dragon? No, well you wouldn't call it the drag.
That would not not the dragon. Not the dragon, the dragon,
(01:19:19):
the snap. It's a telecommunication so Qualcom is like a
flower perrent company. Yeah, wall Com snap Dragon mobile platforms
that kind. I like it though. It's snappy. Well, I
will say this. You got the Rose Bowl up in
l A. You got snap Dragon Stadium down in San Diego.
We're working on a bouquet. Yeah, I mean you can
grow snap dragons down in San Diego. Yeah. The of
(01:19:43):
course Crypto dot com. Yeah, which is I mean we've
been talking about in l A. Staples forever, right, you
just say Staples are at it Staples the crypt see now,
I mean this is the thing back in San Diego,
qual calm uh it just became the que Now you
getting your full mileage out of it, Lincoln Federal Link.
(01:20:08):
You know what I'm saying. Levi Stadium makes sense. You know,
Manufacturing San Francisco they called Levi's. I mean, there are
certain stadiums that, even though they have a sponsor name
to the stadium, you you sort of grow accustomed to
calling them by the sponsor name and it fits. There's
other places though, that absolutely do not because there's uh,
(01:20:30):
I remember some of these ball games, by the way,
a perfect example, and I think I don't even like
the Jimmy Kimmel l A Ball. Did he sponsor it? Yes?
Interesting fact? Where interesting fact? No, it's just the Jimmy
Kimmel l A Bowl. And I'm supportive of this because
I think it's hysterical. He's the first, he is the
(01:20:52):
first ever living person who's out a ball game named
after him. Yeah, a bowl game. Absolutely, that's the first
time in the history I mean think about history of
college football. There's only been one living human being with
a ballgame after well. When I when I first came
to San Diego in the early nineties. The stadium was
(01:21:12):
named Jack Murphy Stadium, after a very prominent San Diego sportswriter.
He didn't pay for his name to be on the stadium.
They called it the Murf, and they called it the Murf.
But it wasn't like he was a paid sponsor. Obviously
he was a sportswriter. But they named the stadium after
a sports right because he was instrumental in getting the
stadium built and everything else. And then all of a sudden,
(01:21:34):
I was in Santio at the time Qualcom became, but
to me it was like the Murf, Like, what do
we call it now? The Qualcom called the Q I
don't know they they're they're spending I mean this crypto
dot com? What what was that? How much money they spend?
It was an astronomical amount of money by the US
(01:21:56):
of millions of dollars. What did they get out of
a crypt Well, well, I will say this, every time
you see that flyover when the Lakers are playing, Well,
how long is it gonna take you to go from
calling its staples to the crypt It's gonna be a
little bit a long time, but it will it's actually
changing this month and on on Christmas Day. On Christmas Day,
(01:22:17):
it is going to forever be referred to as crypto
dot com arenak hundred million. That's a lot of bitcoin.
That is a lot of bitcoin. By the way, price
on bitcoin. Did you see how they fell that one day?
Holy Moley. Remember that guy that got the bitcoin from
(01:22:40):
Tom Brady? He lost twenty thou selling lost twenty dollars.
All right, much more coming out. This is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports
talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows
at Fox Sports Radio dot com and within the I
Heart Radio app search f s R to listen. Five. Well,
(01:23:01):
once again, another very unpredictable day around the National Football League.
We started the day with our eyes set on three
games Brown's Ravens, Chiefs Raiders, Cowboys Washington Football Team. All
three of those games blowouts. In fact, combined score right
now in those games eighty three, two, nine, eight, three
(01:23:23):
to nine. The four games that we weren't jumping up
and down going into the day actually a pretty competitive games.
Titans leading, the Jaguars tend nothing. The Jags are awful
three forty one to go on the third quarter. There
Saints hanging on against the Jets, still ten to six,
two minutes to go on the third quarter. Falcons Panthers,
(01:23:44):
Falcons leading the Panthers about five minutes to go on
the third quarter. And the Seahawks and Texans sixteen thirteen
Seahawks and Texans. And it just once again illustrates, which
what we've seen all season long around the National Football League.
Just when he feels like, all right, I gotta read
on this game, you know, I feel like I know
(01:24:04):
where this team is and I expect to see much
of what we saw the week before. I told you
if I've struggled all season long, as have many with
their NFL picks, and I just adopted a whole different attitude.
Now what I do is I look at the opening lines,
and you know, there's always that lineer two that just
sort of jumps out like wow, that that looks off.
(01:24:26):
And so I look at that game, it's off one
way and then immediately go to the other way. Why
prime example that to me was Dallas and Washington today.
So the Washington football team had won four games in
a row, defenses playing dynamic. The Cowboys have been a
little uneven week to week the last month or so,
and Washingtons a four and a half point dog at home.
(01:24:47):
I'm getting four and a half points at home a
Washington football team that's playing good football. And then you
had Mike McCarthy said we're gonna win this game, and
Ron Rivera sort of calling his uh counterpart out on
the it's been all Cowboys today. Nothing Washington has gotten
zero going offensively. In fact, some of the numbers on
(01:25:08):
Washington are just flat out scary. Taylor Heineke in this
game is five of eighteen, thirty six yards passing and
an interception. We're into the third quarter, Rich and the
Washington football team has forty six total yards in this
gate and we're in the third quarter. By the way,
(01:25:31):
some people think Michael Parsons, who has a couple of
sacks today, forget defensive Rookie of the year. Uh, he
could be Defensive player the Year this year, that kind
of season. He's had really quick two scores updates. Titans
get on the board again, seventeen nothing lead over the
Jaguars after Ryan Tannehill rushed in for a score of
his own and the Saints add to their lead. It's
(01:25:53):
now thirteen six in New York against the Jets. Field
goal good from thirty one yard out. And we've got
a thirty eight yard attempt for the Seahawks. They're just
inside the twenty yard line against the Houston Texans. If
this is good, and it is there, you go now
(01:26:16):
for the Seahawks over the Texans. Nothing gets my juices
flowing like field goals. How about this way? I got
another one right now, Kansas City trying to hold off
the Raiders in this game right now, up just thirty
five to three, and it's good. Fifty four yarder right
through thirty eight to three. Now chase Raiders. So I mean,
(01:26:38):
I mean, you've watched a lot of NFL football, you
played in this league. Uh, this is a year in
which wrote teams have won the majority of the games.
I mean, just just stop right there. Road teams have
the advantage this year. Through thirteen weeks of the NFL season,
I don't know where where are we? I mean, is
it is it parody? Is that pero d I mean,
(01:27:00):
what exactly are we looking at in the NFL? We're
I doubt if we're gonna see a season like this
anytime again soon. It's just so rare when you see
what we've seen, tons of upsets, a lot of switches
at the top of the leader board and standings in
both of these conferences. It's been an odd season, and
(01:27:21):
I don't know what to blame it on. I mean,
We're we're in the first season after COVID nineteen. Maybe
that has something to do with it. Uh, We're we're
in the first season of a seventeen game schedule. Maybe
that has something to do with it. We're in a
season again where this this test or idea of having
seven teams in the postseason, We're doing that again. I mean,
(01:27:43):
maybe that has something to do with it, but I
can't really put my finger on it. Well, what about
this home field situation? Like right now, for the seven
games the road team is winning, including the Cowboys up
big on the road against the Washington football team. And
who could have imagined, But that's an entire season where
the road teams win more games. That's what I'm saying.
There's no there's no real way to quantify why this
(01:28:05):
is happening. It's a berrin, you know, it's it's an exception.
It happens. Sometimes there are occasions where you know, the
the double zero's hits on the roulette roulette board. It's
not supposed to happen. That wheel spins and spins and spins.
It is the lowest percentage chance. But you know, occasionally
you'll see some knucklehead, you know, kind of wobble up
(01:28:26):
to a roulette table put you know, a couple hundred
bucks on on green, and all of a sudden they
leave a huge winner. You know, the hotel casino is
probably gonna give him a free room to keep him
around for a couple more nights, so it gives it back.
But that's the way it goes. Sometimes you just don't
see it coming and then it happens. And that's the
only explanation that if you play football for long enough,
(01:28:47):
eventually road teams are gonna have an advantage in a season.
And that's what we're watching. Uh Patrick Mahomes, by the way,
and the Chiefs thirty eight three lead over the Raiders
sixteen of nineteen two yards, two touchdowns, no in or exceptions.
That's a near perfect passer ratings at one fifty two
point four. He made a throw in this game that
reminded us again what set him apart from every over
(01:29:10):
the quarterback in the league where he's rolling left and
he throws crossfield. I mean the length of that throw
crowing across your body. The only other quarterback that I
can remember that could throw that consistently was John Elway
in its prime. When you just have this superhuman arm
strength where you can roll left, throw across your body
(01:29:31):
opposite side the field and hit your target. Saw today
for Mahomes and we get back to Kansas City. My prediction,
preseason prediction, it's right out there in the hallway, was
a repeat of last year's Super Bowl. I had Tampa
Bay taken on Kansas City, uh in the upcoming Super Bowl,
And I've been waiting and waiting and waiting to sort
of see some of that Mahomes magic back. Now. I
(01:29:53):
don't know how to judge it today. Maybe we're gonna
see a different Mahomes next week. But it you know
a guy like that, and he gets a little bit
off his rails and he's not been there before because
since he took over as a sort of quarterback of
the Chiefs. Outside of that Super Bowl, maybe maybe a
little bit of a Super Bowl hangover like that was
a shock. Remember after that Super he said, I've never
(01:30:14):
lost any game like this. I've lost gains, but nothing
like this where we are completely dominated. Maybe a little
bit of the mindset not only for him, but and
and and as your quarterback goes, so goes your team.
If suddenly Mahomes isn't right, the rest of the team
didn't seem quite right. But I'm seeing a little bit
of it today where maybe if Mahomes gets back on
(01:30:34):
track to what we've seen over the last three years,
Chiefs are gonna be a tough out. Well, we forget
that players are human beings, and I remember feeling this
a little bit as a professional athlete. Now was an
offensive lineman, and it's a much more anonymous position than
a receiver or a running back or a quarterback, certainly
especially the quarterback position. But there were times where I
(01:30:58):
was having a bad day that led to a bad practice,
that led to a bad game week. And it happens
because you're human. Now, imagine if you are one of
the most famous football players on the face of the planet, right, Okay,
you have the scrutiny of the world who watches football,
(01:31:18):
which it is a lot of people in this world.
Um looking at this Chief's offense and saying, you know, jeez,
you know, the problem is Mahomes. For the first time
in his young career, the problem is Mahomes. He's just
not making the plays that he used to make. Now, yeah,
you try to shelter yourself from as much of that
as you possibly can, but a lot of it gets
(01:31:38):
through still, and then your family starts treating you differently.
They start asking you questions you're unfamiliar hearing, like, hey,
are you all right? How are you handling this? You know,
And all of a sudden, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy,
and it's difficult to break up that inertia. He's a
human being. He had a tough start to a season.
He had an awful Super Bowl experience against the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, who absolutely savage that offensive line and beat
(01:32:02):
him into a pulp, and he finally looked mortal. So yeah,
it's taken a lot to get that confidence back for
this entire Chief's offense. And it finally looks like they're
starting to get their legs underneath them when they're about
to make this playoff push and it's good timing. Man, Well,
I'm anxious to see them on Thursday. Will have a
short week, hit the road against the Chargers Thursday Night
(01:32:23):
Football this upcoming week. But definitely chuck up a w today.
Up thirty eight to three over the Raiders May while
I'm watching the Atlanta Falcons here rich and they're knocking
on the door trying to increase their leader. Up twenty
fourteen over the Carolina Panthers just a couple of weeks ago.
Remember they had those back to back blowout losses to
the Cowboys forty three to three, shut out by the
(01:32:45):
Patriots twenty five nothing. It didn't get much uglier than that.
They have a rookie coach and Arthur Smith, and they
come back and they get a win on the road
against the lowly Jack's ugly game, lose to the Bucks,
but they're still hanging around. They get a win today,
they go to six and seven, and but I use
(01:33:05):
them as a prime example. You got a veteran quarterback
in Matt Ryan. The jury is out still. They had
the fourth overall pick. Did they make the right choice.
They could have gotten Mac Jones, could have got Mac
Jones as a quarterback of the future. They went with
Kyle Pitts the tight end out of Florida. But that
is just one of those teams that at times look awful,
and yet at the end of the day, they're only
(01:33:26):
one game below five hundred. I almost wanted, like, how
do you win games? That's Atlanta to me just illustrates
one of those teams that sort of sums up what
we've seen so far in the NFL. Yeah, Atlanta is
one of those teams on the fringe of making a playoff,
push themselves and and you just look at them as
a completely discombobulated franchise. But when you look at some
(01:33:49):
of these games, they've played, to your point, exceedingly well.
They've given some really good teams a hard time. They've
beaten some good teams this season, but they've had blowoutlaws
and then other times on the other hand, yes, they've
had some horrible, horrible losses. Before we finished that sentence, though,
let's hear Ryan Tannehill's first rushing touchdown of the game,
(01:34:12):
Tannel rolling to the last turns runs finger throws Hi Yes, Sir,
w g f X one or four point five Titans
Radio Network. So the Titans came into this game eight
and four big favorites, against the hapless Jaguars and they
are delivering seventeen nothing end of the third quarter. There
(01:34:34):
So the Titans will move to nine and four barring
some miracle comeback, and I mean by the Jags. Similar
to the Falcons, although at the top of the FC
as opposed to the bottom of the NFC, have had
some horrible losses. They lost to the Jets, they lost
to the Texans this year. I mean just those two
games alone. Bit, I mean, think about that. Then they
(01:34:56):
got blown out by the Patriots last week. They came
into this game in a two game losey streak. Most
people dismiss this team once Derrick Henry went down with
the injury. Do we have a statusy boardom? Is it
still possible that if they get into the postseason he
could come back? I remember hearing that Initially, You know what,
I I wouldn't count those chickens, but but yeah, I
(01:35:17):
think that is. I think, as as far as I know,
that's still the plan. Let's see more than a month
at this from me and wrap before. More than a
month after breaking his foot, Titans star running back Derrick
Henry is on track to return by playoffs are sooner,
So and by the way, look at the rest of
this morning. Yeah, the rest of their schedule. Last four
(01:35:37):
games at the Steelers, who knows where that team is
right now, then home games against the Niners and Dolphins,
and then they close out on the road against the
halfless Texans. So the Titans with a win today, looking
in pretty good shape to make it to the postseason.
All right, we got plenty of second half action coming up.
In fact, fourth quarters are right around the corner. Keep
it are on Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is
(01:36:04):
Fox rad Zone Radio, and we've got the place that
you may admits, White Bank, gonna throw it wide open.
Haydon Nurst touchdown at lad All the rights are now
back live to the studios of Fox Sports Radio. This
is Fox Red Zone Radio. All right. That's the game.
(01:36:29):
Falcons Radio Network and the Atlanta Falcons trying to get
to six and seven on the season now leading the
Carolina Panthers by a score of to a four team.
By the way, if you're a valued customer, you deserve
a simple gesture of appreciation from your credit card company.
(01:36:50):
And that's why I discover matches all the cash back
you've earned at the end of your first year Discover
exceptionally common sense. Learn more at discover dot com. Slash
match limitations apply. The Ravens have three field goals today.
They have no offense. Lamar Jackson went out early with
(01:37:12):
an injury. Tyler Huntley has been a quarterback for the
Ravens and they haven't gotten the ends one three field goals.
Still lead trailing this game to the Cleveland Browns now
twenty four to nine. Some of the other scores around
the NFL. Let's take a look here at the updated scoreboard,
and we've got the Titans up seventeen nothing over the Jags.
(01:37:34):
Chief's blowing out the Raiders thirty eight to nine. Raiders
actually got a touchdown to miss the extra point. Saints
leading the Jets sixteen to six. Got about twelve minutes
ago in that game. Cowboys over the Washington football team
twenty four nothing. Washington has gotten zero offense today. Horrible
game for Taylor. Heinekey Falcons up over the Panthers and
(01:37:55):
the Seahawks still leading the Texans nineteen and thirteen. We're
coming to the end of the third quarter in that game.
Which score is shocking you the most? When we when
we could say Washington in Dallas. I I really felt
good about the Washington football team coming in this game. Uh.
And we were talking and by the way, they just
scored a touchdown. Finally, the Washington football team is on
(01:38:16):
the scoreboard. I did not see how that happened. He
guys catch that one. They just got a touchdown because
they were in the forty three yard line and then
boom touchdown. Uh to camp Sims, I believe it was.
It was kind of a jump ball. Uh. So they
were reviewing it. Nice. Okay, so a big touchdown pass
(01:38:37):
Washington trying to get back in this game. But I
really felt going into this game with Washington home playing
some very good football, four game losing streak, and really
Dallas a little bit all over the map, I was
expecting a much better defensive effort from the Washington football
team than we saw, certainly in the first half. Yeah. Look,
I I think I agree with that. Um, I I
(01:38:59):
think these games, these are pretty predictable outcomes. I would
say the fact that Cleveland's winning by as much as
they are is a little shocking. But when Lamar Jackson
goes down in the second quarter, that helps explain the
reason why the score is the way it is. But yeah,
all things being even, Uh, this Washington score is, it's
(01:39:20):
a it's a much bigger margin than I would have
expected with uh with about four minutes left to play
in the third quarter, although all of a sudden we
got we got a two score game on our hands
because Washington football team on a Taylor Heineke scramble on
the two and the end. So we have eight game
(01:39:45):
assuming they scored two touchdowns and they do this two
more times. By the way, this has become a signature
play for Taylor. Yeah, that's not a play very similar
to this to sort of put them on the map
with the Washington football team. So again, twenty four to eight.
Now Cowboys leading that game. Hey, one game I wanted
to get to. Uh, that's coming up here in a
little while, about an hour away from kickoff. Forty Niners
(01:40:08):
on the road against the Bengals. Both these teams are
coming off disappointing losses. Forty Niners losing on the road
to the Seahawks, and of course the Bengals. We saw
that crazy game against the Chargers where they were down
twenty four nothing, then they got within two points on
their way down the field and then Joe mix and fumbles,
Chargers pick it up, run for a touchdown, then dominate
(01:40:29):
the rest of that game. How do you look at
this matchup today? Forty Niners on the road against the Bengals,
And get this, the forty Niners are two and a
half point favorites. A six and six forty Niner team
are two and a half point favorites on the road
against the seven and five Bengals team. Should they be favored? Well,
I will say this, They're about to get healthier. You
(01:40:51):
got Fred Warner who's slated to return for this game.
I'm gonna look into whether or not that's the case.
Deebo Samuel also is gonna be back after missing some
time due to that groin, and he is a huge
part of the forty Niners success. Now they're not without
their issues offensively because Elijah Mitchell Mitchell, he's gonna be
out after doing some good things offensively for this team
(01:41:12):
with the concussion and a knee injury, respectively. So they've
got some guys coming back into the fold who can
help them. They've got obviously talented running back in Mitchell
who's out. Um, But I'll say this about Joe Burrow
and the Bengals. I mean, if there's ever an opportunity
to pounce on a team that has a key injury
to a key player. We watched that Chargers game together.
(01:41:33):
He injured his pinky. I mean it's on his throwing hand.
If there's ever a spot in a season when you're
trying to make that final playoff charge where you can't
have an injury to the most important player on your team,
it's uh, it's your quarterback during this time of year.
So the Bengals right now, it's going to be whether
(01:41:54):
or not Burrow is up to the challenge of getting
the getting getting the ball out because last game, the
Chargers were able to snuff out the run game completely
and the whole offense predicated around completing deep passes down
the sideline. That that was the biggest shock of that
game because Joe Mixing in the two previous games had
three hundred yards and four touchdowns. He was going on
(01:42:16):
a game and so you figure out, Wow, what a
perfect opponent to play the worst run defense in the
NFL going I guess one of the hottest running backs,
and they shut them down and without a running game,
suddenly the Bengals offense liked extremely By the way, this
line has changed more than any other game this week.
I mean, this game open with the Bengals favored. I mean,
so much money is flooding in on the forty niners.
(01:42:38):
You're just like, what am I missing here? I I
just think it's because it is flooding in on the
forty niners. They're getting healthy and and there's question marks
with the most important position on the field. I really
think this one in terms of the line, it comes
down to the injuries heading into the game or the
injury report heading into the game. A lot of history
between these two though, right because Cincinnati made it to
(01:42:59):
two sou Puper Bowls. They were beaten both times by
the close games. By the way, yeah, those were those
were the days right where you had Boomer a Siason.
Uh and well they had that game and then the
famous drive ninety two yard drive engineered by Joe Montana
John Taylor touchdown, they win the game. I I I'll
say this though, um, for the first time since really then, uh,
(01:43:22):
you know, and I understand that they've had Carson Palmer
and that was a good run in that Kitna who
helped groom Carson Palmer into the role he served with
the Bengals, and they had a lot of playoff runs.
They had Achille Smith uh third overall pick in the draft.
They had a lot of playoff runs with with Andy Dalton.
But I I really respect Joe Burrow from the standpoint
(01:43:46):
of like, that's a player who could truly elevate a roster.
One thing I love about Joe Burrow and this again,
uh speaks volumes of him and I see a little
bit of it already and Mac Jones. These are quarterbacks
that understand their own game. They know what they well,
and they also don't try to do things that they
don't do well. It doesn't mean they can't develop. You
think about Tom Brady and how he's developed as a quarterback.
(01:44:08):
You watch him and when they won their first three
Super Bowls, he was a much different quarterback later in
his career when they won three Super Bowls later on. Um,
but early on in your career you have certain limitations.
You know, you're you're learning the game, you know, at
a very rapid rate as a young quarterback in this league.
And and there's a maturity fact that we see with
Justin Herbert as well. But I I I think that's
(01:44:30):
that to me. Even Peyton Mann, if you remember his
rookie season, only three interceptions on a three and thirteen
Indianapolis team, but he learned from that. And I feel
like you're one a year two. Each year you're looking
for progress, You're looking for signs that they're ready to
take the next step. I don't think there's any question
Joe Burrow is that kind of a quarterback. He's that
(01:44:51):
kind of quarterback. He's only getting better. Um oh and
by the way, uh, let's see both of us, says
I'm because I'm doing some research into why this line
is to way it is. Yeah, Bengals running back Joe
mix in with some illness Te Higgins their wide receiver.
They're both listed as questionable but expected to play today.
So I I I this line has absolutely flipped. I
(01:45:15):
I just look I look at it as the healthier
team is getting the love in this matchup because the
home team, obviously is uh is getting crushed in terms
of line movement. The other interesting factor is even though
it was a loss last week for the forty Niners
to the Seahawks, George Kittle had a monster game nine
catches hundred eighty one yards two touchdowns. Here's another odd
(01:45:38):
little note. George Kittle, as productive as he's been as
a receiving tight end, that was his first career multi
multi touchdown game, which I would have not have guessed.
I I figured at least one one other time. He's
gotten into end zone twice in his career, but that
wasn't the case until last week. Yeah, So the Bengals
opened as to an app point favorites at home. Now
(01:45:59):
they're two and alf point dogs. A guy that could
explain that he's gonna have what's trending right now, as
we learned to look at that, there's one guy that
just you know, when it comes to David Gascon, he
doesn't really care. That's iwa Sam, look at it. Yeah,
this is a pregnant pause for effect. Kind of a jerk. Sam.
I was. Sam was over there eating some sort of
(01:46:22):
you see how I raised my voice there. But right
now you can always tell what Iowa's season has ended
because Sam just disengaged from the entire onever. They got
a big bowl game coming up. Well, that reminds me,
reminds me, Um, I forgot I was not here. Lass. Yeah,
but if you do recall Steve Yes, you and I
(01:46:45):
discussed on Saturday that I was gonna say Michigan by
forty Yeah, and what was the score differential in that game?
You weren't quite there at this this Iowa sucks has
probably the offense we've ever seen from a team that
(01:47:06):
won ten games. That's the stamp of honor. I mean,
I take that. I'd take Sanego State's offense over I was.
Neither team did well in their their championship. Twenty players
out with COVID. I was a lot like the Kansas
City Chiefs this year. You know, they're just they're just
waiting for their moment. Awful. Michigan ran right through them.
(01:47:27):
It was. It was a happy Thanksgiving Michigan by a
million over the Channel guys, Kansas, Kansas City nine over
the Las Vegas Rayers. They've also crossed Middifield again. Patrick
Mahomes was shot in the end zone, but it will
(01:47:48):
not Cannyway goes in complete. States sixteen six over the Jets,
Tennessee seventeen. Nothing over Jacksonville. Baker Mayfield been banged up
all day, but Lamar Jackson is the one who was
out nine Brown had the advantage there. Washington just scored.
They went for two and got it. So the Cowboys
up by sixteen. It's to eight for Tyler henry Kee
who had a pass a short passed two Antonio Gibson.
(01:48:11):
Gibson fumbled the football, Dallas recovered and so they're in
business again, trying to steal this game away. Atlanta by
fifteen at Carolina Seahawks nineteen thirteen over the Houston Texas guys.
It was awesome to see. I would just get fat
about this game. Mutilated butchered batter on a national platform.
(01:48:32):
It was awesome. Yeah, there you go, loved it. Talk
about a game a week later. Yeah, Michigan by fifties
a um thanks to that game, though, was named the
A P Coach of the Air. Been a little more
as solve it wasn't It wasn't parents, I would ran
(01:48:52):
into a bus. Sakay, right, this is the national title
cont team. How do you? I mean, like, honestly, are
you over it yet? Or yeah? Okay? And he's feeling
good about now you're remind us again about your bowl matchup.
What he got called Kentucky and the Citteress Bowl Citess
Bowl Basketball school. If you can't be a basketball school
in the Bowl again, that's problem. Kentucky is a good
(01:49:13):
I mean, they've they've been winning games in Mark Mark.
Are you are you worried that the guys could get embarrassed? Yea,
Kentucky solid solid. We'll see, all right, We'll see how
the Bowl games all play out there. Okay, So we
are sitting here right now with seven games going on
(01:49:34):
and only one of them one is a one score game.
By the way, Saints have increased their lead twenty three
to six. Now, uh, they missed an extra point. By
the way, you are getting a few missed extra points
at this point of the day. So they're safely over
the Jets. So the only one score game we got
going on right now. We we knew this was gonna
be a great game. The Hawks at the Texans combined
(01:49:56):
six and eighteen going into this game. Seahawks with a
ninet in thirteen lead about eleven and a half minutes
ago in the fourth quarter there, which is why we're
spending more time talking about some of the games coming up.
And we mentioned with the Chief's big win today against
the Raiders, still leaving thirty eight to nine, No danger there.
Chargers have their game coming up against the Giants. We
(01:50:18):
talked to Mark Schlarath a little bit earlier in the
show about this matchup. I want to get your thoughts
on one of your former teams, the Chargers right now,
Sitty at seven and five. Uh. The run defense that
we saw against Cincinnati is that at turning on the
page because you feel like when you have a quarterback
like Justin Herbert, you're gonna get things done offensively. By
(01:50:40):
the way, Mike Williams will play today. Keenan Allen is out,
but Mike Williams was activated, so at least I'll have
one of their wide receivers back for this game. It
would have been tough with both of them out. Of course,
the Giants are gonna have Mike Glennon at quarterbacks. It
shouldn't be a problem. But do you feel like that
performance against Cincinnati on the road, especial with the defensive
(01:51:01):
line doing what they did against the Bengals run game,
is a sign that maybe which should take the Chargers
seriously as a team that not just makes the playoffs,
but could make a run in a wide open a
f c um. Yeah, the run defense has improved and
I understand that they're still ranked very lowly and key
(01:51:22):
statistical categories that we traditionally look at, but some of
the advanced metrics will show growth in stopping the run,
and certainly they're coming off of some inertia. The way
they were able to handle the Bengals offense, who as
we detailed earlier, I mean, they were on fire through
the last two games before running into the Los Angeles Chargers,
(01:51:42):
and they were able to snuff out mixing and make
the game about what Joe Burrow could do with an
injured Pinky during the course of that game. So the Chargers,
if they get some help upfront from Linville Joseph, who
I believe is back from injury, if they continue to
play the way they it or continue off of that
momentum they created in Cincinnati a week ago, this could
(01:52:05):
go from being one of their biggest weaknesses to maybe
a strength for this team. It's it's weird to talk
about the run game in this way, but it truly
is a team effort. Everybody needs to be in their
gap assignments. Everybody needs to be able to make a
tackle when the ball comes to them. That has been
one of the biggest problems for the Chargers this season
is poor tackling after the running back breaks the line
(01:52:27):
of scrimmage. You see a lot of arm tackles out there.
They've really corrected that. Later on in this season, we'll
see how it looks against this Giant's offense. Who's really
gonna have to rely on the run game between Booker
and se Kwon Barkley. Alright, Saints beginning to roll right now.
From the shotdown the left task Marcus Taysom Hill take
the snap, Hill, run it right. He's got plenty of
green and Taysom Hill we'll just prance into the end
(01:52:50):
zone all by himself. Touch down. New Orleans w w
L Saints Radio Network. They missed the extra points, so
Saints leading into Jets by a score of twenty three
to six. A long day at the office for Zach Wilson,
the Jets quarterback. He is ten of twenty six for
ninety two yards. Ten of twenty six for ninety two yards. Meanwhile,
(01:53:13):
Saint's offense looks a whole lot better when Alvin Camara
is back hundred and twenty one yards rushing today twenty carries.
He doesn't normally get that kind of workload carrying the ball.
He's usually you know, a guy that's coming out of
the backfield. He has caught four passes. But the Saints
with a different mindset right now, handing the ball off
to Kimara twenty five carries hundred twenty one yards, that's
(01:53:34):
almost five yards of pop. He's got a touchdown. Taysom
Hill fourteen seventy yards, no touchdown, snow picks again. Hill
success totally dependent on that running game because everything you
see Taysom he'll do throwing the football. If it isn't
exactly by design, it's just not gonna happen. That's how
they get effective there. But yeah, Camara makes a huge
(01:53:55):
different returning to the Saints offense well, and and it
can balance out the offense. So less of it has
to be about what the quarterback does with the football
in the air, and a lot more of it can
be about the run game. And so twenty rushes or
Kamara twenty passes for Hill like that is a recipe
for success for the New Orleans Saints. You know, back
to Brandon Stalion, the Chargers, Robert Sala with these New
(01:54:16):
York Jets, it really is a frustration if you ask them,
and they're being honest about these defenses, because the fact that,
for example, Robert Sala has given up a hundred sixty
yards on the ground today to the Saints. When you're
a defensive coordinator or defensive minded head coach, your first
job is to stop the run. If you can effectively
(01:54:38):
stop the run and you can force the team into
a passing game where your defensive line can sort of
start pinning their earbacks and and and rush the passer,
it makes offenses so one dimensional. Now, you could still
get beat because you're gonna run into elite passers, you're
gonna be able to handle pressure, and they're gonna they're
gonna make it so you can't rush more than four
(01:55:00):
rushers at a time. But most of the league really
struggles when they can't offensively establish the run, and so
that has been a frustration, I'm sure for this New
York Jets coaching staff, the fact that their defense really
isn't up to the challenge to shut down the run
so far this season, all right, Brown still leading the
Ravens now twenty four to fifteen Lottavius Mario one yard run.
(01:55:23):
They went for the two point conversion but failed, so
it could have been a seven point game. It's still
a two score game, nine point lead. Brown's leading the
Ravens twenty four to fifteen inside nine minutes ago in
the fourth quarter. All right, so we're coming down the
stretch here hoping for some game please Seattle, Houston. Maybe
a game that we're gonna get an exciting finish, plenty
(01:55:45):
of action coming up. Keep it right here. This is
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio,
and we've got the place that you may have missed.
So give us to Latavias Murray. Murray slams into the
middle of touchdown. Lottavias Murray now back live to the
(01:56:09):
studios of Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio.
All right, that was w b a L. Ravens Radio Network.
Two point conversion attempt, no good. So Cleveland still leading
the Ravens by a score of twenty four to fifteen.
We do have a one score game now Atlanta and Carolina.
(01:56:31):
Carolinas scored. It's twenty nine to twenty one. Atlanta leading
Carolina in this game, and Carolina has the ball. Let's
hear that latest Carolina score. Walker fires en zone Anderson
makes the catch right side of the end zone. Touchdown. Alright,
So that there is the w BT and the Panthers
(01:56:53):
radio network. So twenty nine, twenty one Falcons leading the Panthers.
P J Walker, your buddy, uh has been in a quarterback?
Cam Newton took a seat. Did we have a report
on Cam Newton? Was that an injury situation? What happened there? Uh?
They initially just went to p J. Walker. Earlier on
in the game. During the week, Matt Rule had said
that they were going to consider platooning quarterbacks. But it
(01:57:16):
appears to be maybe a straight benching p J. Walker
very near and dear to you know, I know, Yeah,
one of the greats out of the Alliance of American Football.
And if he had a mount rushmore of great A
A F players, he would be on it. Uh. Yeah,
I would argue. I would argue out there with the
Orlando Apollo, with Spurrier as his head coach, they really
(01:57:37):
got a lot of great things done there in the
eight game. Uh, I guess we would say halted season
for the Alliance of American Football. But now looking like
a starter in Carolina, how about it maybe mounting a
comeback here on the field late in the fourth quarter
against the Atlanta Falcons, who currently possessed the football with
(01:57:57):
three minutes in a second left on the UH. It
doesn't appear to be a long flight in time in
terms of time from Kansas City to Las Vegas, but
it's gonna be a really long flight for the Raiders.
Derek Gore just ran fifty one yards up the gut
on the first play of a drive UH, and Kansas
(01:58:18):
City is now leading the Raiders fifty eight to ninety
eight to nine UH. And that game is not even
as close as that score indicates. So forty eight to
nine Kansas City leading the Raiders UH in that game.
Other games going on right now, just catching you up,
we mentioned Atlanta leading Carolina one. Atlanta with the ball
(01:58:40):
now three minutes to go, Cleveland over Baltimore fifteen, seven
minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Ravens have the ball.
Seattle now is increasingly to twenty seven and thirteen over
the Houston Texans, seven minutes to go. New Orleans over
the Jets twenty three to nine. UH. Three minutes to
go there, Tennessee shutting out Jaxonville twenty to nothing. We're
(01:59:02):
finally mercifully coming to the two minute warning there and
Dallas has been blowing out Washington eight thirteen minutes ago.
In other words, let me put it in a better way.
If we have sucky games, can I use the words second?
I mean we have seven games, and figure at least
one out of seven. We're here every single Sunday. We
(01:59:23):
have anywhere from seven to ten games going on. We
always have a couple of games coming down the wire.
We don't have crap right now? Can I be any
more honest about this? I mean, am I am? I? Right?
Have we had the worst start to our I mean
these are crappy games. They're they're not good in terms
of competitive and and then also when you look at
(01:59:46):
the teams or games that are close, yeah, they're they're
not the sort of games that are going to make
much difference in the playoff circumstances, like, for example, this
Atlanta over Carolina game right now, leading to I mean
there are five and seven football team in Atlanta. The
(02:00:06):
Carolina Panthers are five and seven football teams, so they're
both sort of vuying for being one of the teams
in the discussion. Normally, at this point, the playoff picture.
This is normally the point where we have Ryan, our producer,
run in and change some of the TVs around and
and there's really no need to change anything. Um, I
don't have any change. We'll just keep watching what we're watching.
(02:00:28):
We may have a quarterback change in this Washington football
team Dallas game. That uh, one of the interior defensive
lineman for the Dallas Cowboys took his offensive lineman to
the ground into the legs of Taylor Heineke as he
was dropping back to pass, and he injured both the
offensive lineman who was trying to block him and the
(02:00:50):
quarterback in the same place. So Heineke just limped off
the field. And I believe Larson is down on the
ground and they're going to cut him off the field.
So it goes from bad to worse for the Washington
football team, who right now are getting wax. Yeah. Taylor
Heineke in this game eleven of twenty five twenty two yards,
(02:01:11):
touchdown a pick. He's also been sacked four times for
forty six yards, two of which from Micah Parsons, who
has just had an unbelievable season so far. Uh, Seahawks,
you got a winning streak going on right now, play
fake looking now, lays it up over the top of
the ball, is caught by ever, but he's dropped at
(02:01:32):
the one foot line. No, we're gonna say he broke
the playing all right, Seahawks Radio Network touchdown there, Seahawks
leading in the Texas twenty seven a third team Russell
Wilson very solid today. Sixteen of twenty seven, two or
fifty six yards, two touchdowns, no picks were shot. Penny
sixteen carries again, this is it. He just scored on
(02:01:55):
a forty seven yard touchdown, his second touchdown run of
the game. So Rashad Penny, the former San Diego State star,
former first round pick of the Seahawks, today rich. He's
got sixteen carries, a hundred and thirty seven yards and
two touched. As we know this kid, we've known him
since he was at San Diego State. He's been waiting
(02:02:15):
for a day like this. And I never do this
because nobody cares except for me. Yeah, but today when
I was reading about what Pete Carroll said about him,
pregame right, you know, talking about how him and Alex
Collins are gonna share reps and saying he's healthy We're
hoping to get a lot out of him. I picked
him up because he was just out there floated in
fantasy football, and I started him on fantasy today. Whoa
(02:02:40):
you are? He undered thirty seven yards to touchdown single handedly?
Many points? Are we talking about that? Sixteen Carriss under
in thirty seven yards right now? In one of the leagues?
Who's touched down six point three point for a guy
you thought would had a zero possibly today? And then
in the other league, I mean he's in Imagine the
(02:03:00):
teams are going against had a rich no ra shot Penny.
Who would have predicted a shot Penny would have this
kind of day. It's a good feeling, guys. I gotta
admit it's a good feeling. Now that I'm seven years
outside of my own playing career, this is the closest
I can get to the game is just hoping that
I make smart decisions on my fantasy football game. What's happened?
(02:03:24):
I know that's that's what happens to all of us.
So rashant Penny in the end zone for a second time.
Seattle leading this game by a score of thirty three
to thirteen. By the way, they celebrated the Rashot Penny
touchdown run with a miss extra point. The thirty three
to thirteen now six. By the way, did you see
the stat extra point conversions are down to the lowest
(02:03:50):
since they moved the goal post back as far as
extra points uh back in TWI alright, one more hour
for us. We got games ready to kickoff. Keep it
on Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Fox Sports Radio has
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com and
within the I Heart Radio app search f s R
(02:04:12):
to listen live second down and seven run by Penny
left side bridge one tackle, first down. He has gone
thirty twenty timn five touchdown Sahawks and that is the
Seahawks Radio network, Rashad Penny having today sixteen Carriss hunder
in thirty seven yards, two touchdowns, Seahawks leading the Texans
(02:04:33):
thirty three or thirteen four minutes ago in the fourth quarter.
There all right, this is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Steve Harman a rich arm Burger with you. A couple
of games are final now Atlanta has the feed of
the Panthers twenty one. So the Panthers go to six
and seven Panthers fall to five and eight and the
Titans blow out the Jaguars twenty to nothing. Jacks are awful.
(02:04:57):
And you gotta wonder this UH four intercept and today
for Trevor Lawrence trying to do something, how about this
stat eight carries eight yards rushing total. Look look at
that number right there. Eight carries eight yards rushing. That's
a whopping. Let's do the math. One yard to carry
for the Jacksonville running game. And with all the noise
(02:05:17):
that came out of Jacksonville this week surrounding Urban Meyer,
you know, the owner is saying he's gonna stand by
his guy. His guy. He was warned by a lot
of people not the right guy, not the right guy
for the NFL, and he ignored them, figuring how could
I lose? Right? He was a success at Florida, right
(02:05:38):
down the road in Gainesville. Here we are in Jacksonville.
Years ago. I should have signed Tim Tebow. Remember that
whole thing about hey, bring the local guy in. It
is a disaster. I just I can't imagine there's any
way that Urban Meyer survives beyond the season. Well, yeah,
this is a league that choose up and spits out
people who are unqualified. In Urban my has unqualified the
(02:06:00):
coach at this level, no doubt. It's just what it is. Look,
I I mean, I'm not saying anything that's offensive. It's
just a it's a fact Trevor Lawrence. UH has really
not developed this season in a tangible way, you know,
whether it be statistically or when you turn on the
film and look at the sort of decision making that's
(02:06:21):
going on for Trevor Lawrence, this offense doesn't look anymore
productive this team. From a standpoint of will to win,
I think in many cases, I believe these players are
winning in spite of what they may feel about the
head coach they're playing for. Whereas you look at another
first year head coach like Dan Campbell, I think those
(02:06:41):
players are fighting for their head coach because of the
culture builder that he is and the sort of man
that he is. Look, Urban Meyer wants to be back
on recruiting trips so he can go and spend time
at UH. You know, I I assume UH rubbing elbows
with with people and and schmoozing school parents and maybe
(02:07:01):
getting five star recruits in the door. The NFL is
very different. It's just there's no more recruiting to be done.
That's not how you win in this league. All right.
We have one game that's showing some life and it's
the Ravens and the Browns. The Ravens have just scored
to cut the lead to twenty four to twenty one
a minute seventeen to go. By the way, Tyler Huntley
(02:07:24):
just had a fourth down pass he is in for
the injured Lamar Jackson to try to keep this drive alive.
That was as nice I mean, it was a beautiful
pass complete. And now the very next play touchdown pass
for the Ravens there down three, so going for the
two points means nothing. They will kick the extra point,
(02:07:45):
and right now the Cleveland Browns leading by a score,
the extra point is good, so two so at least
we'll get an on site kick here. Uh. And you
do have a future Hall of Fame kicker in Justin
Tucker delivering here, so maybe he can pulse the magic.
We've actually seen, even with all the rules they have
(02:08:06):
installed to make it near impossible for these on site
kicks to be recovered, we've actually had a few of
them this year in the NFL. As a matter of fact,
the Troy Lines against the Rams. We saw one successfully
in the in the first half. Um on the on
the front of what we just witnessed, any fourth down
play that the offense remains on the field, The fact
(02:08:27):
that Mark Andrews could come open at any point during
the course of that play is absolutely absurd. I mean
it is a failure of the defensive secondary. Where three
Browns players were in the vicinity, none of them were
covering Mark Andrews. It's a huge mistake. Mark Andrews in
this game has been targeted ten times. He has ten
(02:08:48):
receptions for one. That's a one. You don't see that
very often where a guy has at least ten targets
and is catches a pass on every one of them.
So we'll get ready for the onsite kick right now. Uh,
Tucker's got it all lined up. The Browns have not scored,
by the way in the second half they were up
six of the half. They've been sitting on this league
(02:09:10):
to the on site kicked. Oh it goes off a
brown player, it's recovered by the Ravens. That is unbelievable.
Like carramed off a Browns player and recovered by the Ravens.
They will get the ball with a minute sixteen to go.
Just when I said it was a dog day, we
got an exciting finish, A perfect on site kick to
wrect to write out a player big bounce. He didn't,
(02:09:31):
he wouldn't even trying to catch the ball hit him
on the shoulder. The angle of this ball, it confused
the player to the point where it hit him in
the side of the helmet. Oh my goodness, how about that?
And if caram right into a Ravens player, so they
recover the ball. Minutes fifteen officially to go right now,
uh and we'll see if Tyler Huntley in for the
(02:09:53):
injured uh Lamar Jackson can do it. He's twenty five
or thirty five, by the way, two four yards in
a touchdown, no picks. He's saw some pretty passes on
that last right. He's going for it all right now,
overthrows him, all right, So we got a game. We
got a game right now. Marquise Brown on the go
route near sideline on a first down throw, just sort
of get the defense to back off the line of
(02:10:14):
scrimmage there a little bit, and clock is on their
side considering where its over possession and they only need
a field goal to win the game, and they got
two time outs left, so he got the best kicker
in the game. And justin Tucker, he had a sixty
six yard or earlier this year to win a game.
So you only need about twenty yards here. By the way,
we brought up to Troy a couple of times in
this conversation that sixty six yarder was against Detroit. Gets
(02:10:39):
taken down like he didn't fumble on that. That was
a blind side blowney, absolutely wallop Tyler Huntley as he
was trying to make some room in the pocket gets
brought down for a deep sack. Brings up Yeah, and
again where they got the ball to start, they really
only needed about twenty yards now add another ten to that,
(02:11:00):
so they're gonna have a second or third down now
and about nine team, let's hear that latest raven score
left to play. Huntley throws the end zone touchdown Mark
Andrews and the Ravens narrow the margin w b A. L.
Ravens Radio Network. So third and twenty right now for
the Ravens. We got one oh five to go in
(02:11:21):
the fourth quarter and they are trailing by two, and
again they got the best kicker in the game. And
Justin Tucker, so he can he can go long distance.
He holds the record with that sixty six yard or
third and twenty right now and Huntley and for the
Angel Lamar Jackson throws complete, so they get to the
fortys again, and he's hustling. He wasn't looking to celebrate
(02:11:45):
the catch. He's hustling to get the ball back to
the officiating crew. Well, the clock has stopped right now
and it's a time out by the Ravens. I want
to I want to ask you really quick because you
didn't get a chance to talk about this Thursday night
football Chase Claypool and the game situation where the Steelers
can tie the football game. He does the dramatic point
on the first down reception instead of hustling to get
(02:12:07):
the ball to an official. What was your thoughts on that? Well,
I mean, I mean you can overplay it by saying
that cost him the game. I mean, how about being
down twenty nine nothing? By the way that last pass
have been through was his beautiful pass as I've ever
seen in my life. I don't he had a right
on his hands anyway. Um yeah, I mean again, he
had a rough game. Clay Pool all right, here we
(02:12:29):
go quickly. Fourth and six for the Ravens right now,
they need a first down. They don't get it. That's it,
game over. I'm I'm cleaving Hans off with the win.
So confused. How do you throw that pass on fourth
and six? I am like, listen, don't get me wrong.
Taking the sack on second down was bad enough. You
gotta understand the circumstance here. You need it's fourth down.
(02:12:51):
That ball needs to You can't check it now they're blitzing. No,
he he had plenty of time there. Where are you
going you? No, No, it doesn't matter if they're blitzing.
It doesn't matter if you're gonna take the hit. You
just gotta heave that downfield. It just doesn't matter. Checkdown
is never gonna work. Now, don't be wrong. Don't be
gonna be wrong. If this was a normal play during
the course of the football game, that's what you're supposed
(02:13:13):
to do with the football, right, you get it to
the receiver comes open on the blitz. But you can't
do that there. So the Browns survive and win two
as they're taking a knee to expire the rest of
the clock. Here, what a finish though. Yeah, in this game,
Baker mayfield yards, two touchdowns, an interception. Most of the
damage was done in the first half. Cleveland got shut
(02:13:36):
out in the second half of this game. By the way,
they're looking at Tyler Huntley saying, hey, kay, you're the
backup guy, but what were you doing on the last throw?
Fourth and six? Not fourth and one? Anyway, So we
got the Browns winning. That's a huge one. So the
Browns get to seven and six, Ravens dropped to eight
and five. Meanwhile, we got a touchdown right now for
(02:13:57):
the Washington football team. Uh, too little, too late. I
don't know. Um, they're gonna go for two here, which
would make it a two score game. Uh, and we
still got five minutes to go here, Cowboys leading Washington
by score of fourteen. Yeah, I think they'll go for
a two point conversion here. Meanwhile, we got games that
(02:14:18):
are kicking off right now, Lions at the Broncos, Giants
at the Chargers. We got much more excitement coming up.
Keep it here on Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This
is Fox Red Zone Radio, and we've got the place
that you may have missed. So he's got the staff
(02:14:39):
back to pass FROs Caud Bapon, don have a breach
store bum back head by de ward ward the red
oft fort have a boch Get the ball back now
back live to the studios of Fox Sports Radio. This
is Fox Red Zone Radio. All right. Well that was
(02:15:03):
Brown's radio network, Brown's hang on and beat the RAVENSWO. Now,
just when I called out an ugly slate of games
we had that finished unexpected and now all of a sudden,
a complete turnaround in this Dallas Washington game. So Washington scored.
They were down twenty four and nothing at one point.
(02:15:25):
In fact, that was the halftime score to the Cowboys,
and then they got and then this happened, pand off
Williams up the mid all touchdown, touchdown Washington, all right,
So that was the touchdown that got them to twenty
seven and fourteen. They went for a two point conversion failed,
(02:15:47):
so it's still Dallas gets the ball back about five
minutes to play, right, still up a couple of scores,
and then this happened. Picked up like a hook up
at the thirty five on fake pick Sex touched down
w t M the team nine eighty Dak Prescott just
(02:16:10):
missed the receiver. Uh and uh, Bob the linebacker standing
there walking touchdown. The extra point was blocked. So Dallas
leading twenty and I'm looking up right now and Washington
has the ball back. Washington has the ball back. After
a very short series of three and out by the
(02:16:31):
Dallas Cowboys, three minutes to go still in this game,
twenty nine yard line is where the Washington football team
will take over here, and they don't have They have
Kyle Allen in a quarterback. Taylor Heineke got injured on
a sack he took late in this game. He got
rolled up on by a defensive tackle who pushed his
offensive lineman into Heineke's lap. So right now, Washington's playing
(02:16:56):
without one of their starting lineman and without their starting quarterback, who,
by the way, started this season as their backup. All right,
So Kyle Allen in a quarterback right now, and he
throws a sideline pass and complete. There was a nice
pass a little bit. Uh also a third and three
right now, Still plenty of time, two and a half
minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but this was
a twenty four nothing. Halftime lead for the Cowboys was
(02:17:19):
in and out of the hands of Carter on the sideline.
Kyle Allen put that ball the only place his receiver
can make a play beyond the stretch the outreach arms
of the corner. Perfect was dropped. Goodness gracious, that would
have been a huge play for this football team. One
that that's a heartbreak, all right, Third and three right
now for the Washington football team. Kyle Allen scrambling, he
(02:17:43):
gets hit and it might be a fumble. It might
be a fumble. I think his farm was going forward.
At least they'll rule it on the field. His arm
was going forward. Uh, most likely, But look at this.
Watch watch where the ball. All it has to do
is be going forward, and it is. I don't know, man,
Look where that we knew doesn't have Yeah, I mean
(02:18:04):
you couldn't know. You could call a sack right there.
I don't know if he has possession of the football.
They'll watch this. The balls out. It's going behind him.
And his knee wasn't down. No, his knee was down,
which well, I mean his right knee was down. I
don't know. They've ruled an incomplete pass on the field.
They'll they'll review it. I would imagine they have to.
(02:18:24):
I'm telling you, I think there may be enough evidence
to overturn this and if they do well, the Dallas
captually they favor the quarterbacks on these armed forward and
we've seen how many times have we seen going back
to the rule. Yeah, they favor starting quarterbacks. This is
Kyle Allen. Okay, all right, Well they're they're they're they're
talking about it right now. Well, it's like, watch his knee,
(02:18:46):
his knee. See, that's what I'm saying. That balls and
the ball is coming out backward. It's it's really close.
It's really close. It's one of those do you gotta
question what was hold on the field? Was an incomplete pass?
So is there enough to reverse that call? Yeah, so
(02:19:06):
we'll see they're reviewing the play right now. Uh, if
it's an incomplete pass, it'll set up a fourth and three.
There is two twenty four to go in the fourth
quarter of this game. Dallas now a leading Washington by
a score of twenty seven or twenty by the way.
Dak Prescott in this game nothing to brag about. Thirty
nine two eleven yards, wasn't touchdown in two picks. That's
(02:19:29):
a passer rating of below sixty. Zeke Elliott Levin Carrey's
forty four yards. They're just not really clicking right now.
You look at the Cowboys, even if they come away
with a win here, you can't put him in the
class of Green Bay or Tampa Bay or Arizona. I mean,
would you put him in the class of the Rams.
(02:19:52):
I mean to me, they're behind Actually those let me
put them where they belong. The Rams and the Dallas
Cowboys are in my mind, they're grouped together because they're
their teams, their offenses, especially that are both so heavily
predicated on a successful run game that when the Rams
don't run for over a hundred yards, they usually lose.
Same with the Dallas Cowboys, Like there's no Aaron Rodgers
(02:20:15):
to come save the Dallas Cowboys. Are the Rams, it's
it's Stafford, it's Dak Prescott. You know, there's no Tom
Brady to to bail out those two teams when the
run game isn't working. The other three teams ahead of
them in the NFC, if you look at them, what
they have is great quarterback play, whether it's Murray or
it's Rogers or it's Brady. The Dallas Cowboys can't be
(02:20:37):
so Dak reliant in the same could be said about
the Rams, So I kind of I think they're suited
kind of fighting for that fourth spot between the two
of you themselves, uh in the NFC, because they both
need their run game to be better than they've been lately.
Just updating on two games that just kicked out. The
Broncos have an early seven nothing laid over the Detroit Lions.
(02:20:58):
Davante Williams a short touchdown run in that game. Uh,
Detroit just Jared Goff just got sacked for big loss.
They had to kick the ball away early on no
score the Chargers and the Giants, and the play was
reversed there it is Dallas takes over. They called it
a fumble. So now the Dallas Cowboys had the ball
(02:21:19):
at the twenty eight yard line of Washington seven point later,
and my guess is they're not gonna throw the football
at this point. I would say that would be a mistake,
and as well as their defense has played for most
of this game outside of this second half comeback for
the Washington football team, I'd be more comfortable at this
point running the football and then being forced to punt
(02:21:40):
it if you don't get first downs, rather than sacrificing
potentially Dad getting picked off deep in your own territory again.
All right, So what Dallas right now, all they're looking
to do is run some clock, uh and then get
a field goal, may get a two score game. As
we're coming close to the two minute warnings. So it
looks like Dallas at this point should be able to
(02:22:02):
hang on after just a crazy finished. I mean, this
game was we've turned this game off at halftime. It
was twenty four and nothing. Cowboys Washington came back, but
it will be too little, too late. Meanwhile, we got
the Chargers Giants game under way. Uh. The Chargers have
the ball right now driving down the field. Uh. We
talked plenty about Justin Herbert, one of the guys that
(02:22:25):
m people have been a little frustrated at least Charger
fans that I talked to why we're not seeing more
Austin Ekeler, you know, I mean he he really has
developed a guy that was undrafted into one of your
better all around backs, but he hasn't been carrying the
ball that much. He is right now in this game
early on three carries twenty three yards. But a little
(02:22:46):
frustration from some of the Charger fans that feel like
they've been a little bit too much leaning on Justin
Herbert throwing the ball and have ignored their running game
when he got a pretty good running back obviously, in
Austin Ekeler. Here, here's the problem with Austin Ekeler and
it's and it's really I guess it's one that has
followed him throughout his career is stumble. Yeah. I mean, like,
(02:23:09):
when you have a running back who's this talented, Yeah,
you want to get the ball to him as much
as possible, but you've got to be able to possess
the football. And and I mean, how many games over
the course of his career with the Chargers have been
you know, lost as a result of him fumbling down
near the goal line as a result of him turning
over the ball. And and a gotta have him moment.
(02:23:30):
You need, you need to be clutch in that situation.
You need to understand when you need to sort of
close the gate and lock that ball to your to
your rib cage. And and it's just been a problem
with him. Now. I think overall, I'll take the good
with the bad with Austin Ekeler. The good usually overshines
to bad. But he has some of those games who
(02:23:51):
are like, can he be trusted situationally in the answer
is sometimes no. Alright, Chargers are down to the ten
yard line right now of the Giants on their drive.
No score early on, but the Chargers definitely threatening. Meanwhile,
Dak Prescott just scrambled for a first down, so that
will do it. At this point, Dallas will have Washington
(02:24:12):
simply doesn't have enough time house to stop it. So
Dallas should be able to run out the clock right now,
uh and come away with a twenty seven to twenty victory.
A couple of games just kicking off right now, Rich
forty niners of the Bengals. We talked about that game.
I've been waiting for you to talk about this Bills
Buccaneers game. Uh. Tom Brady right now is the m
v P of the league. He leads the league in
passing yards, he leaves the league in touchdown passes. It's
(02:24:34):
got thirty four. This is at age forty four. Here's
the amazing stat to me, It just blows me away.
He is averaging through the first twelve games forty three
pass attempts a game at age forty four, so he
is averaging forty three passes a game. He's already thrown
over five passes in twelve games. How does this arm
(02:24:58):
not fall off? What is going? How can a man
at aget just the volume of passes that he throws
and I know they're not all down the field, but
just throwing the football that many How's it possible? Well? Look,
I mean there's like a pitcher. I mean, there's only
so many pitches, right, There's two things that play here.
As the Chargers almost get into the end zone for
(02:25:20):
the first score of this game five minutes left in
the first quarter, Chargers are now at the goal line
on a fresh set of downs as Justin Herbert rushes
it himself. Um, this is what I'll say about Tom Brady.
First of all, he's a genetic freak, because anybody who
can play this long has stuff in their body from
(02:25:41):
from a DNA standpoint that just the rest of society doesn't, right,
all right, So putting that aside for a second. Also
the way he takes care of his body. But the
arm again, I mean, we saw Brett Farve and Peyton
Manning and Drew Brees. At some point it goes, I
I get it, I'm this guy. It does it's it's
a strange phenomenon. Austin Ekeler rushes it in for a
(02:26:05):
one yard carry, Chargers lead six nothing at home over
the New York Giants. I get it. I get it.
I understand that it doesn't seem feasible or possible, but
it's happening. So you have to look at the things
that he does in the commitment he makes that other
players haven't. His diet is wired in. We know he
came out with the cookbook, the TV twelve method, his
(02:26:25):
training regimen, all those things. I don't know if explains
the whole story, because again, genetically he's different from the
rest of us. But it does help to prove the
point that if you are single mindedly focused on being
the greatest, that you can accomplish things that nobody else have.
And we see that with the greats like Tiger Woods
who came back and want of masters. We see that
(02:26:47):
with greats like Peyton Manning, who he had doctors and
by the way, I had the same doctor work on
my back that did his neck, who advised him not
to play anymore football. We talked to several doctors a
year he was out, and it was universal knowing his
background multiple neck surgeries, that he was putting himself in
severe danger if he were to even attempt to come back.
(02:27:09):
And then he comes back and throws fifty five touchdowns
in one year and he wins the Super Bowl after that.
Now that not Super Bowl, you're more of a game
manager from there. But even there, That's why I go
back Brett fav It seemed like he would never stop.
Same thing with Drew Brees, same thing with Peyton Manny,
and eventually there's not This guy is averaging forty three
pass attempts. Again. One of the other things about Tom
(02:27:31):
Brady compared to those other quarterbacks is he hasn't had
to rely on just absolutely throwing his arm out of
the socket his whole career. He's he still makes those
throws a lot of no I understand. I mean, I
was watching the throw he made last week. It was
one of those, you know, twenty five yard outs, and
he needed to put it right on the money back shoulder,
(02:27:52):
perfect with velocity. Nothing. I'm amazing. Speaking of beyond explanation,
let's find out what's trending right now. Devey Gascon defies
logic At times. I was really hoping Dallas was gonna
soil that game away. Yeah, we came very close, but
(02:28:13):
finally they got the win. It was it was not pretty,
but Dak Prescott, despite the factory through that pick six,
his Cowboys held on to win that game twenty seven
to twenty. I would have been brutal for Mike McCarthy
after his uh declaration of a victory prior to kickoff. Obviously,
the Saints walking with an easy victory against the Jets
thirty to nine. Was the final Kansas City Blitz Las
(02:28:35):
Vegas forty to nine. It was the fun that one.
They had a defensive touchdown in the ball game just
seventeen seconds in Browns held on. They they were leading
twenty six against a Lamar Jackson list Baltimore Ravens squad,
and they held on two. Tyler Huntley came in tour
in seventy yards and a touchdown in the defeat Bills
(02:28:55):
and Buccaneers under way, no score, San Francisco and Cincinnati,
the same charges on the aard Justin Herbert four or
five thirty yards at Austin. Eckler got his way on
the ends on seven. Nothing there, Denver driving again. Broncos
leading the lines uh seven, nothing is a score in
that contest first quarter action ballgames and Fox and prior
to uh their opening play, Denver took a delay a
(02:29:17):
game they had ten players on the field in remembering
Damarius Thomas so to trade decline the penalty, but they
had a brief moment of sounds for him obviously passing
away a few days ago at the age of thirty three. Yeah,
all right, thank you very much. Yeah, that was unbelievable
story about Damarius Thomas, and now I was. I know
they've been started trying to figure out how what happened here, right,
(02:29:38):
a thirty three old man. They talked about a car
accident he had a couple of years ago, but he
walked away from that accident, I mean took responsibility by
the way he admitted he was. There was a man
and a woman in the car. The woman was seriously injured. Um.
But I I know they're still trying to find answers
to what happened to de Marius Thomas. Apparently some sort
(02:29:59):
of under lying medical issue. But I will say this,
and I'm very curious if other I haven't spoken to
too many other former players since the news came out.
Just you know, sort of interactions on social media and stuff.
But I'm I'm curious if other players are affected by
this way. I am because having played you know, look,
I mean, a six year NFL career isn't an extremely
(02:30:22):
long career. But there there comes that point where you know,
some of the guys who you played with during your career,
you know, start passing away and I know you played
against him Maarius Thomas several times, and you start thinking, like, goodness, gracious,
like was that at all contributed to him playing? Was?
What was? Is there a link between his untimely passing
(02:30:45):
and uh, the fact that he played football for as
long as he did And and I don't know if
we're ever gonna know the answer to that question in
this specific cage case, but it's a violent game. It
takes a toll on your body. A lot of players
obviously suffered the rabbit is of a long career or
even a short career playing for guarantee of this, Damarius
Thomas in his great career, he took plenty of hits
(02:31:07):
as a wide receiver. He wasn't a huge receiver. Number
eight eight, We'll always remember on the receiving end of
that Tim Tebow pass in the playoff game against Pittsburgh Steelers. YEA, yeah,
I mean I I will. I won't forget that because
I was played over and over and over again, because
that year the Denver Broncos season stopped in Foxborough because
(02:31:29):
they beat the Steelers that met us in the divisional round.
And I remember Coach Belichick, who spoke so highly of
Damarius Thomas, was like, we need to know where eight
is on the field at all times, you know, And
he was hammering the point home to our defense. I
don't care if you're a defensive tackle, if you're a safety,
(02:31:49):
you know, he's pointing out like Patrick Chung, Vince will Fork.
He's like, you guys, you all need to know where
he is. And if somebody seems lost, you say, hey,
there's f and eight eight over there, you know. Like
he wanted it clear that he was a game breaker.
And then, obviously, playing in the same division as Damarius
during my years with the Chargers, got an opportunity to
(02:32:11):
compete against him. He was the ultimate competitor, a great
teammate by every account. You here and um still looking
for answers. We still do not know, other than there
was some sort of medical condition that costs him his
life at the very very young age of just thirty three.
Al Right, So Broncos leading the Lions seven nothing right now,
(02:32:34):
and they are knocking on the door right on the
goal line. Cam up, just a tad short. Lions look
like they're satisfied with their one win of the season. Uh, touchdown, Broncos, touchdown, Broncos. Watch.
I'm gonna anticipate you ready for this because I've already
seen the scorpion put up. There is Melvin Gordon, the
(02:32:56):
former Charger, now the Broncos extra boy is good. So
fourteen nothing? How about Melvin Gordon? Are you alright? Well?
I just I was looking up because I saw the
score here. But we're watching TV. Everything's in a different
time zone right here. Melvin Gordon has fifty one yards
rushing in the first quarter. Yeah, yeah, you know the Broncos,
(02:33:17):
you know, like they have eighty two yards rushing as
a team for what they in the first quarter, what
they've been this season, which is kind of a non
story for a good for a good portion, are one
of those teams that could quietly make some head head
roads or a headway into the postseason if they just
win this game. Now, I gotta share some stats are
(02:33:38):
right for the first quarters stats Broncos leading the Lions
fourteen nothing first downs Broncos eleven, Lions zero. Time of
possession Denver twelve minutes thirty seconds Lions one minute thirty
seven seconds total yards Denver has one and thirty five.
(02:33:59):
Detroit has negative three. So that's that's what we call it.
Pretty one sided first quarter? Would you not say? You
could argue that this is a decidedly uh Broncos game.
So far, however, the Lions have only had one possession.
So we're looking at two long drives for the Broncos.
Their opening drive win eleven plays. They spenned the seventy
(02:34:22):
five yards and ticked five minutes off the clock. This
last one was a twelve yard drive for seventy four
yards and it took seven minutes off the clock. The
the Detroit Lions have had the ball for three plays. Yeah,
and a punt and a punt and that's it. Uh.
Here was the beginning of the on slap by the Broncos.
Bridgewater Undersenter takes the handoff, cuts back to the goal line,
(02:34:44):
Williams powers in touchdown. Denver k O A eight fifty
a M and ninety four point one f M Broncos
Radio Network an i Heart affiliate. By the way, it's
amazing with the Lions sitting at one ten and one
that they're two non losses could cost those teams a
spot in the playoffs. Think about it. You got the
(02:35:06):
Steelers with that tie. If that's the Steelers win there
in a much different situation, and then the Vikings ye
their whole situation. Losing that game to the Lions when
it's all said dead could be the difference between them
making the playoffs and not making the playoffs. So even
though it's been a miserable season for the Lions, those
two games Steelers and Vikings could actually cost those teams
(02:35:30):
to spot in the postseason. And we got a Giant's touchdown.
So after the Chargers get in the zone with an
Eckler one yard, Lennon is unstoppable. We've got a is
that the fullback cousin of Rashad Penny who got in
the end zone for the New York Football Giants, who
we got a tie ball game seven? All all that
(02:35:51):
Mike Lennon in a quarterback of course, for the injured
Daniel Jones. You got Freddy Kitchens now is your offensive coordinator?
By the Jason Garrett, I don't know if you saw
this story. A lot of people thought he was going
to become the Duke football coach, like his name was
all like Jason Garrett. He's a perfect fit, and and
they end up going in a different direction. So, Jason Garrett,
(02:36:14):
we're gonna see him ever re emerge in the NFL.
What do you think? Uh? Yeah, I could. I could see.
Did you bring him in as your offensive coordinator? No,
not as an offensive coordinator, you bring him as a
head coach. I could see Jason Garrett, if he wants
to coach, him picking up a job as a quarterbacks
coach somewhere right now. All right, so we're quarterback coach.
Yeah yeah, Look, I mean it's you gotta love it
(02:36:35):
to be a coach in the NFL. Anyways, And a
lot of these guys, look, they have friends around the
league who want to surround themselves with guys who they trust.
And I easily, very easily could see him being a
position coach at some point in this league. All right, Uh,
we're all on the other side. We're gonna continue update
to on the games that are going on right now.
Also get just set for Sunday Night Football and Monday

Forty Niners early three nothing lead on the road against
the Bengals. Want to thank the guys today, Iowa Sam.
(02:38:24):
Uh the whole dynamic between you have Gascon. Have you
guys ever thought about doing a podcast together? I don't
think so. No. Well, I don't know why you dismissed it.
So he loves to dismiss greatness. Okay, West Champions, Great
West Champions. And you turned off his mike, so he
can't say no. His mike's on right now. You know.
For the record, I decided to get breakfast for everybody. Yeah,
(02:38:47):
Ryan Burrshinger and Iowa Sam want to get lunch. Didn't
get it for me? Wow, that wasn't oversight. I mean
you're kind of scum. Yeah. I think about it. Write
what happened there. I placed an order from myself. Sam
also placed in order for himself, and then I walked
about thirty ft down the street and picked him up.
(02:39:09):
Did you ask if you want anything? Gascon has these
things called feet also, so do you you should use them? One?
I can't leave the board. I can't leave. I we
sit on this side of the glass. There's a galaxy
of events happening outside of our purview. I feel like
somewhere in the upper stratosphere Ochael Strahan tattoo in your
(02:39:32):
four that says POS. What does it mean? Point of
sale either? Yeah, by the way, touchdown, Lions, knock it off.
Jared Goff has thrown a touchdown past that cleave Raymond,
of course, and it's now a fourteen six. But it
was actually a beautifully designed play because Raymond sort of
motion like he was going to cross the offensive formation
(02:39:55):
and then came back out scorted out the left side
of the offensive formation. Jared put it on him and
he walked into the end zone. So really unique play
designed down near the end zone for the Detroit Lions
to make this a ballgame. Now, all right, let's take
a look at a couple of the games coming up later,
one tonight and one tomorrow night. Start with tonight Packers
(02:40:16):
and the Bears Green Bay. Yeah, when you talk about
the NFC right now, are are they number one? Is
Tampa number one? Arizona number one? Are you talking about
my opinion? Your opinion? Right now? Where? Where? Where are
your NFC rankings right now with those three teams, because
you've already dismissed Dallas and the Rams as a notch below.
(02:40:38):
So Arizona, Tampa Bay, Green Bay? Where do you have
the pack in order of the way I think that
these teams will operate once the postseason arrives. Tampa Bay, Arizona,
Green Bay. I'm so impressed with obviously Tom Brady and
all the things he's been able to accomplish offensively the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This defense is repeating success this year.
(02:41:02):
That is one of the least heralded units outside of
the Arizona Cardinals, who come in second place behind them
in my power rankings, and that's because of their defense.
Their defense has been rushing the pastor and forcing turnovers
as good as any in this league. And all anybody
wants to talk about when it comes to Arizona Cardinals
is Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins, and I get it
(02:41:25):
that that's a big part of it. And this revamped
run game with James Conner has been great, But this
defense is the reason why the Cardinals have kept the
wheels on all season. And then obviously the Packers in
third place Aaron Rodgers. With that defense and the things
they're able to accomplish offensively with Davante Adams, is is
the reason why they round out the top three. All Right,
(02:41:45):
we cannot leave here without a Lions highlight. Let's hear it.
Go off turns, fakes, the give, watch the throw does
left side. Gotta to rating. It's not the five to
the end zone touchdown Detroit Lions. Boy, it's a beautiful play.
He was circling around the backfield and just cut it
back the other way on a real route, found him
(02:42:06):
into the end zone. Lions on the board, w x
y T FM ninety seven point one the ticket Lions
Radio Networks of the Lions getting back in that game,
now trailing the Broncos fourteen to seven. Meanwhile, the Chargers
have gotten into the end zone and they now lead
the Giants by a score of fourteen to seven. And
(02:42:28):
let's see him. That was Joshua Palmer on the receiving
end of a Justin Herbert touchdown. Tom Brady, he's gonna
be bragging about this playoffs the game. He did a
little scramble the galloping ghost over there here the other
day when he had I guess. I guess it was
like an eleven yard run. Somebody said, so, what was
it like in a tenure a run? He stopped eleven
(02:42:50):
eleven that's almost exactly rush was, Yeah, I'll tell you. Yeah.
And by the way, Rob Gronkowski looks, look at do
my eyes deceive me? Does he look right now as
good as he's ever looked? Yeah, he's having one of
those seasons where I mean his first team All Pro. Yeah.
(02:43:12):
Where the ball it seems like it's magnetically charged because
he finds a way to get into his hands no
matter what. Moving better. I mean, you know, we used
to talk about Gronk. One of the problems that Gronk
always had was understanding how to go to the ground.
He's a big guy, and it seemed like he did
more damage to himself not in getting hit, but going
(02:43:33):
down to the ground, like he didn't know how to
actually go down well. And also he's one of the
toughest guys I've ever played with in my life. Gronk
was the type of guy who had dragged three players
and be looking to stiff arm. Another. One part of
getting older in this league is obviously trying to sustain
as little damage as possible, and he's got to your point,
(02:43:54):
he's getting better at avoiding some of those collisions. He
actually knows how to get down. Yeah, I used always
I see him get hit and didn't look that bad
because he's doing as much damage to the guy getting hit,
you know, hitting him as as he's getting hit. He
did not how to go down, like just like awkward,
like you have to figure out how to go down.
All right, So buckets leading the Bills right now seven nothing.
(02:44:15):
By the way, if Tampa wins this game, obviously they're
in prime position to still get that one seed in
the NFC, But that really puts the Bills in a
predicament that would drop into seven and six. And we
got a long way to go obviously in this game
right now. But well, you look ahead for the Bills
right now, and I mean this is a team that
we thought, you know, they could win the a f C.
(02:44:36):
Look at the rest of their schedule. They still have
a road game against the Patriots coming up. They do
have some home games they should be able to handle.
But yeah, blood a lot going on here. The Bills
are are two or three well, I would say two
losses away from panic mode, you know, and if it
happens in the short run here, they're really going to
have to press to finish out this season and remain
(02:45:00):
in the playoff conversation, especially with the Miami Dolphins coming
on the way. They are, all right, a lot more
to come. Just keep it here. This is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio.
