You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Living the dream once again here on a fully loaded
NFL Sunday. This is Red Zone Radio and we are
brought to you by ty rack dot com Studios.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
That's where we are.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
We're gonna help get you there in unmatched selection, fast
reshipping free road has a protection over ten thousand recommending installers.
Tire rack dot com the way tire buying should be.
We got eight games about to kick off around the NFL.
Saints at the Falcons, Rams at the Bears, Vikings at
the Packers, Steelers at the Colts, Broncos at the Jets,
Eagles at the Bucketeers, Mangles at the Panthers, Jaguars at
(00:38):
the Texans, and you know, rich as we start week
four here of the NFL. Least, we start on Thursday
with a very ugly win for the Cowboys on the
road against the equally ugly Giants team. We only have
five hundredfeated teams left, and there's some speculation after week
four we may have none.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
It's possible.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I mean, there is a parody going on right now
in the NFL. And you know, some teams have looked
a little better than others Buffaloes look pretty good obviously
this year Josh Allen in early favor for MVP. But
I mean, year after year after year, it is evident
the parody is there in the in the National Football League.
There is no clear cut super team even close early
(01:19):
on in this season.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
No, I mean, do you put your trust in the Steelers?
I mean, do you do you put your trust to you?
Are you? Are you rolling the dice on the Bills.
I don't think there's any undefeated team remaining that that
makes me feel the warm fuzzies.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
And let's talk about the Chiefs. Roy The Chiefs are
defeated last eight.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Regular season games. For the Kansas City Chiefs last eight,
Patrick Mahomes has eleven touchdown passes in nine interceptions right
over eight games. Eleven touchdowns, nine picks. That is mediocrity
for a super talent like Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
But this is way we are right.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
We used to talk of these high power offenses, all
these touchdown pass We're nowhere near that anymore.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Well, they just know how to win. Quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes,
quarterbacks like Josh Allen. But then mixed in there you
have justin fields is an undefeated quarterback. You have Sam Darnold,
who's an undefeated quarterback, you have Gino Smith who's an
undefeated quarterback. Those kind of raise your eyebrows. And that's
where all the question comes in. Also, let's be honest
with each other. The Chiefs won but only by the
(02:26):
grace of three plays, like really big plays in each
of those games that could have gone one way or
the other, and it fell the Chief's way. The pass
interference against the Bengals is an example, the example of
the tight end likely stepping out the back of the
end zone. Literally, the Baltimore Ravens lost that game by
a toenail. That's how close the margins have been for
(02:50):
Kansas City. So look, they've won those games and credit
where credits to those ws count at the end of
the season. But they've gotten by by the slimmest of margins.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, and their defense is really and the main reason
they're winning those games. And when we talk about the
Steelers right now, that game just underway, undefeated Steelers on
the roll against the Colts. And you know, the big
question is Justin Fields. I guess the one thing you
can say about Justin Fields is he hasn't done anything.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
To lose a game.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
So far for the Steelers, the question is has he
actually done anything to be the difference in them winning games.
Whether that defense right now is playing as well as
any defense in the league.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah, what they need Justin Fields to do is keep
doing what he's doing, because they if he doesn't sacrifice,
if he doesn't pull a loss from the jaws of victory,
for the most part, the Steelers are gonna be all right.
Be a game manager, make the big play when you
need to with your legs. Don't try to fit a
ball into a tight window somewhere. Don't throw the ball
(03:48):
across your body like your Russell Wilson in his prime
or Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
That's not who you are right now.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Maybe one day, maybe he could develop into a quarterback
who can really see the field and make electric things
out up. But right now, Justin Fields is a nice
quarterback when he's playing under control, when he's following a
game script. When the Steelers are playing with the lead,
that's a great front running team. When you have a
great defense, a good running game, and a competent quarterback,
(04:15):
you could be a front running team. And when you're
playing with the.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Lead, you're you're okay, by the way, right now, you
got a lot of these two and one teams right
and at the end of the day, there's I don't know,
I know it's early.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
We're not even a fourth of the way through the season.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
It's somehow three and one sounds a whole lot better
than two and two. You know, you get to three
and one and all of a sudden, all right, now
we're off and running. Right now, we got this game
going on. The Jets are at home against the Denver Broncos.
Broncos come in one and two. They just got a
victory last week. Bo Knicks played well in that game,
the rookie And now now you got the Jets sitting
(04:52):
at two and one, and you know, is this going
to play out for the Jets this year? Is Aaron
Rodgers going to stay on on the field get more
productive with that Jets offense? We know the Jets certainly
have some defense. It will be going against a rookie
quarterback today. This is a real test for me with
this Jets team also already on their first drive three
(05:13):
and out and they have just handed the ball back
to the Broncos, who will open up their first drive.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Of the game.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
I think this is a real critical game for the
Jets at home. You have to be able to beat
a Broncos team with a rookie quarterback.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Garret Wilson got tackled, fumbled the football, turned it over
to the Denver Broncos on the Jets opening drive. So
that's the reason why the Broncos have the football deep
in Jets territory. So we'll see where this drives goes
for Denver. But yeah, to your point, the original point
about being two and one or three and one.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Three and one and two and two cents a lot
different to me.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
They sound different than me too, and I'll tell you why.
Because of winning percentage. Yeah, at the end of the season,
if you're a two and two team, that means you're
an eight or nine win team. If you're a three
and one team, again, if you're.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
A twelve and four, twelve and five, thirteen and fourteen, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
You're your twelve winner thirteen win team. And that's so
when you extrapolate out and you say, if this holds,
if what we're seeing early is what we see throughout
the season, well, this is a really good football team.
But we know that's fools gold. We know that's fools gold.
The season goes through different seasons all along the way.
And we have our first touchdown and it was Jonathan
(06:21):
Taylor barreling in for the Indianapolis Colts, the first points
on the board against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yeah, right down the field. And this isn't again a matchup.
We talked about an undefeated Steeler team and that great defense,
but let's keep in mind that when healthy, the Colts
still have one of the best offensive lines in the
National Football League.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
And if you can get.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Jonathan Taylor and that running game going, a whole dynamic
of Anthony Richardson changes the less pressure on him to deliver.
And the Colts just did that on their opening drive,
right down the field. The extra point is good seven nothing.
Indianapolis ain't stike, and the head coach of the Colts
is not dummy. He was a coach of mine when
I was with the then San Diego Chargers, and he's
(07:07):
the type of coach who understands who he's playing against
from a personnel standpoint, from a scheme standpoint. What the
Steelers want to do is they want to play bully ball.
And they want to own the time of possession as
we have another touchdown on the board. It's a passing touchdown.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Sam Darnold finds Addison twenty yards down the field, and
we got a penalty that's going to be declined on
the green Bay defense.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
So the Vikings strike first. Six to nothing in green Bay.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeah, Sam Donald already three for four seventy two yards
in the opening drive. You talked about Addison twenty nine
yard touchdown for the Vikings.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
There.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
We also have the Buccaneers on their opening drive, first
and goal at the Eagles eight yard line. These are
two teams sitting at two point one. Baker Mayfield is
red hot to start the game six to seven for
fifty four yards. Now a second in goal at the
Eagle two. And the Carolina Panthers against the winless Cincinnati
(08:05):
Bengals Andy Dalton four for four on this drive already,
they have a first and goal at the Cincinnati two
yard line. The Bengals postseason hopes are already on life
support with a zero three star they lose at Carolina.
Game over.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Jags are first and goal on Houston's two yard line
right now as well, we are off and rolling yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
No kidding. We got Baker Mayfield in the low red
zone and he just sort of strike to Mike Evans
over the top of the Philadelphia defender. And the Philadelphia
Eagles are trailing early on the road, six to nothing.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Ballgame, Bucks, and the Jaguars have scored a touchdown on
a touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence to Brian thom Junior.
So the Jaguars are up seven to nothing. All right,
we are off and running here. Things are going crazy.
We are going to along with course updates two constantly

Speaker 4 (10:03):
The end zone touch up, Welcome.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
Back Jordan Edison Bome Minnesota Vikings have a six to
zero lead. Sam Darnald has thrown nine touchdowns this year.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
That's Kfan one hundred point three FM Vikings Radio Network.
Vikings take the early seven to nothing lead on the
road against the Packers, who, by the way, are down
to the Minnesota fourteen yard line. They have a third
and eight right now now, a third and thirdeam with
a penalty, So we got a lot of scoring early
on here on this NFL Sunday. This is Red Zone Radio.
(10:38):
Steve Harbin and Rich Ornberger with you. We are live
from the Tirek dot com studios all right, as we
keep you updated here on the games going on.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
We got plenty of action later on today.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
One of those games, the New England Patriots on the
road against the San Francisco forty nine Ers.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Joining us right now, he will be on the call
for Fox.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Joe Davis joins us once again, Joe always, thanks for
joinning us in.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Previewing a game.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
I don't think too many people circle this game a
week four saying we'd have a battle of one in
two teams.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
But that's where we are right now. Let's start with
the forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Kittle is back, But what is the attitude around this
forty nine er team after that devastating collapse against the
Rams last week?
Speaker 7 (11:20):
You know what's interesting, guys, is that as dominant as
they've been relatively speaking for a while here, right, I mean,
this is just five years where they're always there at
the end, they've had times like this in just about
every one of those seasons where alarm bells have been
going off and people are asking what's wrong with the
forty nine ers. Most recently last year they started five
and zero but then they lost three straight and you
(11:43):
know we're able to recover from that and do what
they did going to the Super Bowl. So there's a
blueprint for this, you know, where they have these rough
patches early on and then figure it out. Like you said,
they've been doing it with less than a full calf
to characters and you get healthier today. Kittle's coming, as
you said, there's a chance they're going to get Deebo
Sanduel back as well. You figure the forty nine ers
(12:05):
are going to be all right.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
There's always there's always distractions with injuries, right, you know,
Christian McCaffrey being out, Deebo Samuel fir Stin, Kittle coming
back but hurt at least early this season, Trent Williams
and Brandon Ayuk with their contract disputes this. How focused
of a team is this forty nine Ers team this season?
Speaker 7 (12:28):
You know, I think that it's easy to say, okay,
is that a question? Is that a problem given that
they're one and two? But look, I mean they if
Ronnie Bell catches that ball last week and the defense
comes up with one more stop, I don't know if
we're wondering that. So that's the business we're in though,
right to try and figure out what's going on and
to see if that's maybe part of what the deal is.
(12:50):
But I don't know. I think if they win today,
take care of business today and get things back on track,
it's also easy to say, hey, there, you know, the
mindset's great, and you know part of it too is
the production, Like I've got to produce a little bit
more this flow start that he's had. But yeah, you know,
we're we're in a reactionary business. That's part of the deal.
(13:11):
And I guess those are questions they have to answer
given what they went through this summer with a couple
of those guys.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Joe Davis Johnny is on the call for the New
England San Francisco game coming up later on Fox. So, Joe,
you know the forty nine ers, all the focus obviously
on these injuries on their offense, but their defense is
not played well. In fact, they are thirtieth in the
league in yards per play giving up that should be
corrected against this New England team. So when we talk
about the Patriots right now, they had the nice wind
(13:38):
opened up the season against the Bengals, But how long
do you expect Jacoby were sent to be the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Is there a timetable for Drake May?
Speaker 7 (13:47):
Not a public one? And Guys, I don't know how
aggressive they should be putting Drake May out there. To
Kobe Pressat, it's just getting lit up and that seems
like a really really tricky place to throw. You're supposed
franchise quarterback, right Like, Drake May is not going to
fix this season for the Patriots, So what are you
(14:07):
going to gain by putting him out there where Brissett's
behind the worst offensive line in the NFL so far.
I just if I'm a Patriot fan, I'm excited to
see him play, but I'm really mindful of what damage
could be done if he plays without any kind of
supporting cast around him to protect him.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
When you look at a play, or I should say,
a player like Juwan Jennings in the game he had
despite the loss against the Rams, what's the level of
excitement around San Francisco about the future prospects for Jennings
Because it's probably going to be impossible if we look
into the future to keep Deebo and Ayuk on this
roster from a monetary standpoint, So is this the start
(14:48):
of something special in terms of maybe the next evolution
of the San Francisco forty nine ers.
Speaker 7 (14:54):
Yeah, that's a great point. I think it was exciting
just in a vacuum seeing what he did last week.
Can you talk to these guys are the forty nine ers,
and everybody says the same thing. We see him do
this in practice all the time. We knew that this
was in there. But more importantly, Yeah, as they kind
of move into this next phase with some contracts that
are due, of course, gonna have to Paybrock Purdy here soon.
(15:15):
Seeing that you have this guy on your roster where
even on a day where you don't have Kittle and
you don't have Depot, you can still have all these
exposive plays as he steps in there. I think that's
a big deal as they look forward to the future
of how to put this roster together.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
So one final question here, Joe, just an overview of
where we are. You know, three weeks in, This is
week four of the NFL, only five undefeated teams, only
three winless teams. Is conceivable that that list will narrow
tremendously by the end of this week. And Rich and
I've also been talking about we're the high power passing
(15:51):
attacks we're seeing suddenly seeing the running game like return.
Are we sort of in a transition phase with the
National Football League right now?
Speaker 7 (16:00):
It's a great question, and I don't know if anybody
has the exact answer right. I think that there are
so many theories and I don't know if any of
them are are the one. I don't know if any
of them are wrong. Like you look at the way
that teams aren't playing their guys in the preseason, how
much of the impact does that have on the flow
of the offenses. I think the proliferation of the Vic
(16:21):
Fangio style of defense for the two high safeties and
offenses are gunning for explosive plays more than ever, defenses
have shifted to counter that and try to take them away,
and so you're going to have fewer shots over the top,
You're going to have fewer yards in the passing game.
I think that you know the way, Greg who I
(16:42):
get to work with every week, who is just so brilliant,
I learned from him every week. The way he's put
it is, teams are not running the ball more because
that's what they're choosing to do. Teams are running the
ball more because defenses are saying it's better for us
if you run the ball. So I don't know what
the exact the answer is. I think there's so many
factors into it, but it's definitely something to, you know,
(17:05):
kind of inassurean seeing league wide story throughout this season,
that's kind of a thread. No matter what game you're watching.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
New England at San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Later on today on Fox, Joe Davis Greg Olsen on
the call. Joe, we always appreciate time, Thanks so much.
Have a great game today.
Speaker 7 (17:20):
Okay, guys, of course, take care.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
All right, that's Joe Davis joining us right there, all right.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
In the meantime, we have got fireworks going off rich
right now in some of these games, let me do
a quick rundown of the scoreboard. Saints and Falcons are
tied at seven rams early three to nothing lead on
the road against the Bears. Viking's up seven to nothing
on the road against the Packers. Colts lead the Steelers
seven nothing. No score between the Broncos and Jets, no
(17:47):
score Bengals and Panthers. But how about the Buccaneers fourteen
to nothing over the Eagles. Baker Mayfield is twelve of
thirteen for one hundred and thirty eight yards and two touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
Baker Mayfield is a real quarterback, and by real quarterback,
I mean a real good quarterback. This this story of
Baker Mayfield bouncing around after that stint in Cleveland where
it was the first overall draft pick. He's learned a
lot and we call them journeyman because that's what it is.
Sometimes it takes a journey to find your home. There's
(18:19):
no question about it. He's found his home in Tampa Bay.
He and Mike Evans have already connected on a touchdown
pass in reception. He's tremendous, by the way.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
One other score, Jaguars and Texans tied at seven. We
go to bow our producer right now, our resident Eagle fan.
What are we are missing here? As we were talking
to Joe Davis, the Bucks suddenly score again? But what
is this all about? The Bucks? Or have the Eagles
decide to mail this one in?
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Steve?
Speaker 8 (18:45):
After last week and watching the Eagles play football and
sitting here rooting for them to lose, I have sworn
off watching this team for.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
The rest of the year.
Speaker 8 (18:55):
Is that it that was just the last They're just
flat out not good. I think we were joking about
last week, but the Commanders have a legitimate chance to
win that division. Because I didn't leave Thursday Night's game
being impressed by the Dallas Cowboys. I don't know if
anybody else did. No like watching the Eagles play today.
This is this is a third time in like less
than a year they're playing the Bucks, and the Bucks
have just whooped them each time.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
I will think the Bucks are just a really good team.
Speaker 9 (19:18):
Though.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
Yeah, there's that part that can start considering the Bucks
might be one of the best teams the NFC right now.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
They're a good team.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
But also remember they played against another NFC South foe
earlier last.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Week and they held them. I mean, that's the Saints offense.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
All the nice things we were saying about them coming
into that game we have to say about them now.
And by the way, they're in a tight ball game
seven to seven right now against the Falcons. The Saints
were piling up points and then they ran into this
Eagles defense, who did a nice job. So maybe they
can slow down the bleeding here at some point.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
I will say, in fairness to the Eagles, if you
looked pregame at who Jalen Hurts has to throw to
out there today. Yeah, I hammered the under on Jalen
Hurts passing yards.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
And by the way, he's just gotten sacked and it's
fourth down and the Eagles are punting it back to
the Buccaneers, who are leading on.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
The side of the Bucks too. Like they do have
Vita ve back in this game, which they did not
have last week.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
He is He's a monster, all right.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Updated total yards in this game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
have one hundred and fifty nine. The Eagles have zero
okay zero total yards okay, right, so they have three
yards rushing, negative three yards net passing after that sack.
So total yards one fifty nine for the Bucks, zero
for the Eagles.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Guys, not a great start, but there's still a lot
of ballgame left. I mean, just look at what happened
against uh Georgia, for Alabama, or I should say for
for Georgia against Alabama. I mean, Alabama rushed out to
that hot start, and then it was a ballgame.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Twenty eight to nothing, dude, I mean, first four drives
of the game. Anything can happen, Anything can happen. You remember,
you see how bad he was in that first half
twelve two halfs tell because with over four hundred yards
past second half, I smell heisman. Okay, no, he's not
in my rate. I'm looking at genty. I'll tell you what.
I'm a Heisman voter. You look at Boise State gent
(21:16):
Ashton Gente. I look at Travis Hunter. What he's doing
at Colorado. They were two touchdown dogs on the road yesterday,
blew out Central Florida.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
It was amazing. And Milrow right now, he's in my
top three.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
All right, let's find out what is trending right now.
And of course she has been on top of things,
as she always is. By the way, in this game
till on Saturdays. Yes, Monty and I have our show together,
and I said, for a bonus point, sa Kwan Barkley
less than fifty yards rushing in this game.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
He did two carries for three yards so far.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Okay, Well, all of a sudden, that's looking okay, Nave
like me, I made my favorite part of the shows
when we get to talk to Monty, and it has
nothing to do with the two tacos or burritos that
she feeds me every single time we come to the studio.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Still there are gone there, dude, Come on, I didn't
even see him, but eat honestly did.
Speaker 10 (22:09):
Not actually didn't either. I didn't either.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
I I both of those required four bites total. Wow.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Yes, yeah, well done.
Speaker 10 (22:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Well.
Speaker 10 (22:17):
Also he's busy. He wants to get the eating out
of the way.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yeah, and my belly'es fulling, very happy and now yeah,
Manty my favorite person.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
You take it from here.
Speaker 10 (22:26):
I will take it from here, fellas.
Speaker 11 (22:28):
The Saints tie the game against the Falcons thanks to
Taysom Hills two yard rushing touchdown, but then Kirk Cousins
through an interception, so the Saints have the ball again
around midfield with less than five minutes to go in
the first quarter of that one. Ram's still on top
of the Bears by a field goal three zero.
Speaker 10 (22:44):
They're about to end the first quarter.
Speaker 11 (22:46):
Yeah, seem Darnold five of six eighty six yards, one
touchdown pass. Welcome back Jordan Addison four. The Minnesota Vikings
there beating the Packers seven zero late in the first quarter,
and Jordan Love is active for the Packers after missing
the last couple of weeks. The Colts are on top
of the Steelers seven zero, Jonathan Taylor with the rushing
touchdown three minutes to go in the first quarter of
that one. Halfway through the first quarter, the Broncos and
(23:08):
the Jets are still scoreless. Aaron Rodgers one of four
for seven yards. Denver right now has the ball around midfield.
The Buccaneers US, we're just talking about Baker Mayfield twelve
of thirteen, one hundred and thirty eight yards, two touchdowns.
Speaker 10 (23:19):
Yes, he's sitting on my bench, thank you so much.
Fantasy football.
Speaker 11 (23:22):
The Buccaneers are beating the Eagles fourteen zero, three minutes
to go in the first Bengals the scoreless Mangals taking
on the Panthers in Carolina.
Speaker 10 (23:30):
They are scoreless one minute to.
Speaker 11 (23:32):
Go, but the Bengals are at Carolina's four yard line
and second in goal, so they're knocking on the door
to score. And the Jaguars have taken the lead over
the Texans with the field goals, so it is ten
to seven about two and a half minutes to go
in the first quarter. Later today, the Browns are going
to be taking on the Raiders, and the Browns did
say that their star running back Nick Chubb is expected
to return to practice this week, so a big, big
(23:54):
lift for the Browns.
Speaker 10 (23:56):
Back to you guys, all.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Right, Monsie, thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
We'll check in with you a little bit later on.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Once again, this is Red Zone Radio, Steve Harbin, rich
Ornberger with you. By the way, Anthony Richardson just went
out with an injury, which means Joe Flacco entered the
game and he immediately threw a touchdown pass.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Just like that, he throws the Josh downs for the
easy score for the Colts, and we got another Josh
on the board with a touchdown Josh Oliver with the
Minnesota Vikings, Sam Donald finds his second passing target for
a tuddy So Minnesota now up fourteen to nothing. On
the road in Green Bay, Jordan Love back Sam Darnold
(24:31):
out dueling the very rich.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
Quarterback Jordan Love and that hit on Anthony Richardson, that
is absolutely him going to get checked for a concussion.
He took a slide and got immediately cracked in the helmet.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
So again, smart play by the Colts to sign Joe
Flacco for what he did a year ago in Cleveland,
and Flacco immediately comes in throws that touchdown pass. Sam Darnald, guys,
is right there in the MVP chase. Is there any
question about that? I mean, you got Josh Allen and
Sam Donald right now.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
It's a two man race.
Speaker 8 (25:02):
It is Sam Donald, Sam Donald. It's a one man
rich team. I'm skipping the MVP. I'm just getting the
bus ready.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Quick up date here.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Jaguars lead the Texans ten to seven. The Jaguars one
of three winless teams remaining in.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
The NFL, and past two games the Texans have looked
completely different.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
The Texans haven't really looked right all year long. Even
their two wins were all not all that impressive guys.
And so you know, this is a Jaguars team that
was all this turmoil this week, especially after their horrific
performance last week. What's the future Trevor Lawrence, What's the
future of Doug Peterson? Things could look a little bit
(25:44):
better if they get a road win today against the Texans.
But rich all the hype about the Texans. By the way, CJ.
Stroud in this game for for four to seventy seven yards.
His numbers look good. But the Texans have not.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Looked great, no, no share. They haven't looked like they've
looked last year. But remember strength of schedule has changed
things for them. Last year the Texans where I mean
they were left for dead. That's the reason why they
had so many high draft picks. This year, it's going
to be a tough sledding And actually they haven't even
gotten into the teeth of their schedule that I'm thinking
(26:15):
about it. They played against the Colts, the Bears, the Vikings,
and so the Jaguars is the first I guess you
could argue on paper at least real team quote unquote
that they're facing. But yeah, coming up soon. They got
the Bills, they've got the Patriots, they've got the Packers,
the Jets after their second visit with the Colts. So
(26:37):
it's gonna get more real for CJ. Stroud and the
Texans from here. Quick update on that Anthony Richardson hit.
I'm looking at the play. I'm telling you it's not
his head. I bet you it's his hip. When he
went down, he was clutching the side of his body
and it looked like he went down hard on that
right hip. And so I'm not saying it's better or
worse for a return, but usually lower body injuries mean
(27:01):
a return isn't likely possible.
Speaker 11 (27:03):
Hip pointer yeah, and he's headed to the locker room now.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
So yeah, yeah, but again you got Joe Flacco and
he is simply unstoppable. Big battle here in the NFC
South today, Saints on the road against the Falcons. If
you could choose between these two quarterbacks, Rich, who would
you choose, Derek Carr or Kirk Cousins?
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Oh, my goodness, for just this season or for the
rest of their career.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
If you had to pick a quarterback to start for
you this week right now in the NFL, who would
you choose Kirk Cousins or Derek Carr?
Speaker 4 (27:33):
I mean, besides the hiccup against the Eagles, I guess
Derek Carr because I've been very impressed with how this
offense is. Look, they've been very succinct, they've been very efficient.
I think they ran into the perfect scheme against the Eagles,
and also they played poorly. They lost that game as
much as they as much as the Eagles won that game.
(27:57):
So I would take Derek Carr right now. He's playing
better all right. By the way. Critically, game for Atlanta.
You're one and two, You're going against the two to
one Saints team.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
You're at home in division and You've also lost both
of your home games this year the Falcons, so they
have to win this game. You spend a minut on
Kirk Cousins. This is the reason why. But right now
the Saints have the ball and that game is tied
at seven early on. Right now the Rams and the Bears.
Where are you right now with Caleb Williams. Where I'm
(28:27):
at with Caleb Williams is he looks green. He looks
completely uncomfortable. He looks like the only time he's really
playing football instead of thinking about where to go with
the football is when he's running around and playing backyard football.
Because that's what this looks like when you are a
mobile quarterback and you're overwhelmed by an offensive system you're
trying to learn and run.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
He's not used to this. You know, this isn't this
isn't easy. Remember, he spent a long time in the
Lincoln Riley system. He came with him to USC. He
understood that system like the back of his hand by
the time his final season at USC rolled around. And
so it's difficult relearning. It's like learning a new language.
If you go to Mexico for the first time in
(29:09):
your life and you're gonna be dropped in. They're gonna say, hey,
you're gonna be living here for the next five years.
Good luck. The first couple months are gonna be real bumpy.
It's gonna be a bumpy ride for you because you're
learning a new language, You're getting used to a new culture.
Same thing for an NFL quarterback. You have no idea
what people are saying to you, the coaches, your teammates,
(29:31):
because they know, but you don't.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Right now, worst game of the day, bar none, Broncos Jets.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
You ready for these numbers. We're four minutes to go
in the first quarter. Total yards for the Jets. Six
total yards for the Broncos two. So we have eight
total yards.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
So far in this game, Aaron Rodgers is two of
five for sixteen yards. Bo Nicks is two of six
for negative five yards. Yeah, this is uh uh Lee,
But I mean I'm looking right now at the Jets.
Breese Hall five carries negative three yards. Okay, okay, So
that's not really getting it done up front. And you
know we were talking about Aaron Rodgers is joining a
(30:13):
team that has some you know, young talent at the
skilled positions, but there was still the question mark about
this offensive line and Reese Hall five carries or negative.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Three yards as long as run as.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
One doesn't seem to be going in the right direction. Remember,
the Jets had extra time to get ready for this game.
You're at home against the Broncos. Bo Nicks obviously is
having a rough start against that Jets defense.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
But where is the Jets offense.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
The Jets offense need it needs to be fortified by
a strong run game. You have a forty something year
old quarterback. You need to be able to run the football.
If you can't create a new line of scrimmage with
your offensive line, if you can't penetrate into the defense
and get positive yardage on first down to set up
second and manageable third and manageable for an aging quarterback,
(31:03):
you're gonna get into trouble against these defenses because they're
going to be able to defend the sticks. They're gonna
make it hard on as accurate of a passer as
Aaron Rodgers is, they're gonna make it hard on him.
And that's what keeps happening with this Jets offense. They
keep ending up in these longer third down yardage situations
and it's not going to benefit them. So they need
(31:25):
to fortify that run game. Don't I don't care what
you have to do. Add an extra offensive lineman on
the field on early downs, multiple tight end packages, whatever
it is. You gotta start winning on first down because
even the great Aaron Rodgers isn't gonna be able to
bail you out every time you're in third and long.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Big question this week. The Bengals own three start.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
It's a less than ten percent shot of making the
playoffs after an OH to three start.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
But this is not a normal team. If you look
at their losses.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
The inexplicable six point loss open the season on against
the Patriots, you lose, you know, laid against the Chiefs
on the road, and then Jayden Daniels look dynamite. They
had no answer. The problem with the Bengals has not
been Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow's passer rating coming into this
game well over one hundred. Their defense, though, has been
atrocious so far this year. But you're on the road
against the Panthers right now. The Bengals lead that game
(32:15):
seven to nothing. Then after that you got the Ravens
at home. You're at the Giants you're at the Browns
and then Eagles and Raiders at home. I mean, it's
conceivable that the Bengals, if they play well and can
you know, show up that defense a little bit. Yeah,
after the next six games or so, could get right
(32:37):
back into the playoff picture.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
When you dig yourself a hole, though, the emotional turbulence
of getting down like that and then having to dig
yourself out of that hole, it's so much because even
though we say this, it's a common refrain in every
locker room I've been in. Hey man, it's a one
game season. Hey man, we're O and O going into
this week. It doesn't matter if you're a good team
(32:58):
or bet team. That's what That's a lie you tell yourself.
That's the lie you tell yourself at halftime. You're trailing
by three scores. You know you're down and out played
a terrible first half. Hey guys, the score is nothing, nothing,
nothing nothing. It's not true, though, because it takes a
lot to get back into a game, to get back
into a season. So it's a herculean task ahead for
(33:19):
the Bengals this season.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
All right. The Saints have taken a fourteen to seven
lead another one.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Yes, another touchdown for Taysom Hill.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Yeah, he has two touchdowns. Taysom Hill a second touchdown.
Saints take a fourteen to seven lead inside fourteen minutes
to go in the first half on the road against
the Falcons.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
We continue on. If you just tune in, you're like,
what is going on? Simple?
Speaker 2 (33:41):
We are here to give you every score, every stat
every single thing you need for your NFL Sunday. This
is Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 12 (33:49):
Got the first down just inside the ten hand off,
Taysom Hill gets your left side and he just stands up,
can't even get close to being tackled. On Taysom Hill
take sit in for his second touchdown to Taysom touchdown.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Saints AT's ww L Saints Radio Network. And Taysom Hill
does what Taysom Hill does. He carries the ball. Everyone
knows he's going to run the ball when he comes
into a game, and he still get yards. And today
he has two touchdowns. Saints lead on the road against
the Falcons fourteen to seven.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Okay, two quick scores that we have to update everybody on.
The Buccaneers got a rushing touchdown. Baker Mayfield got in
for the score, so seven more points in the shutout
so far in Tampa Bay, twenty one nothing lead over
the Eagles, and Jordan Addison has just caught his second
touchdown pass from Sam Darnald, insuing extra point about to
(34:43):
be kicked. Twenty nothing lead turns into twenty one nothing
lead on the road in Green Bay for the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
All right, Vikings are for real. Let's make that clear.
Sam Darnald is an upgrade at quarterback from Kirk Cousins.
You heard me right, He's an upgrade. We just said
about Sam Donald. By the way, we are lost from
the ti iraq dot com studio. That's future Hall of
Famer Sam Donald. You're talking about Sam Donald again. I've
(35:12):
seen it firsthand many many times. Right place, right time,
right system, and especially for quarterbacks. And O'Connell's got the
offense that seems to fit Sam Darnald perfectly. Because the
key with Sam Donald this went back to his final
year at USC when he led the nation and turnovers.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
Remember he had as many turnovers.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
As over half the schools had his last year at USC,
after his fabulous red shirt freshman season, and then he
comes in with the Jets and he goes down to Carolina.
I say this. I think that Sam Darnald sitting on
the bench in San Francisco might have helped him at
least clear his head and get a fresh start where
(35:57):
he wasn't going to be playing, just sort of you know,
you know, get his senses about him, and then he
gets put into a perfect system with a lot of
talented wide receiver. He's delivering the ball and more importantly,
he's avoiding the dumb plays that it marred most.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Of his career.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Listen, Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback who ever played, sat
behind Drew Bledsoe. Right, Patrick Mahomes, arguably the most talented
quarterback to ever play, sat behind Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers,
a Hall of famer. He sat behind Brett fav who
obviously was another Hall of Famer. But my point being,
(36:36):
sometimes it takes time. It doesn't always happen, you know,
first rattle out of the box, you know what I mean.
Andrew Luck burst onto the scene. He was great from
the moment he stepped onto the football field for the Colts.
It was very obvious he was a tremendous football player
coming out of Stanford, and those skills immediately transitioned to
the NFL. It doesn't happen a lot though, folks, it doesn't.
(36:59):
It is unique. It is a unicorn that's able to
make that jump. See de Stroud last year, amazing this year,
some early struggles for the Texans. It's hard to play
quarterback at this level. Sometimes you could have a great
rookie season and then you can get found out as
a sophomore in the NFL a' lla RG three. This
(37:19):
is a difficult league to not only be successful, but
sustain success. And for certain quarterbacks and many of the
greatest of all time who've ever played the sport, it
took them a little time to figure it out. Peyton
Manning his rookie season, he got thrown into the fire.
He led the league in interceptions, famously led the league
in interceptions before having an amazing career.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
So it takes time. You gotta let it bake sometimes.
All right.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
I was watching the Jets Broncos game and there was
somebody out on the board. What do you guys have
an update on player? Who that was?
Speaker 3 (37:50):
It looked pretty serious.
Speaker 8 (37:52):
We'll let you know, but I do not know what
this time.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
I mean, somebody was strapped down.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Let me ask you this about the Steelers, who are
down seventeen to nothing on the road against the Colts,
have absolutely dominated. We said before the show with Justin Fields,
he hasn't lost the game for the Steelers. Their defense
has been doing all the heavy lifting. But if this
game continues the way it is and the Colts win
in a blowout at home against the Steelers and Justin
(38:17):
Fields can't muster any offense, does he go back to
the bench.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
If you have a healthy Russell Wilson.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
I mean, come on, if the Steelers keep it rolling,
you do not if they.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
If they get blown out today by the Colts and
they generate no offense.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
If they fall to the Colts and the offense look
looking nept, then you have a decision to make. Look,
the best quarterback will play. That is the end of
that sentence. Mike Tomlin, he made no bones about it.
In training camp. He's like, the best quarterback will play.
Russell Wilson's our name starter, but the best quarterback will play.
And so at that time they felt like he Wilson
(38:56):
was the best quarterback to lead the team. He hasn't
been healthy enough to help this team this season so far,
so obviously you go with your number two guy, and
that's justin fields. But if it stops working, then you're
gonna get Wilson. You will see Russell Wilson this season.
If the Steelers start to struggle.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Well, right now, they're down seventeen to nothing twelve minutes
go in the first half. They have one yard rushing
in this game. The Pittsburgh Steelers one yard rushing. Meanwhile,
the Houston Texans, trailing the Jaguars ten to seven, eight
and a half minutes to go in the first half
of that game, have a first and goal that actually
is now back at the fourteen yard line after a penalty. Oh,
(39:33):
we have a touchdown pass Jamar Chase on the receiving
end sixty three yards from Joe Burrow. Bengals take a
thirteen to seven leate penning the extra point, so Joe
Burrow is lighting up fines his favorite target, Jamar Chase,
sixty three yard touchdown, obviously after an zero to three start,
an absolute must game for the Bengals. All right, we
(39:53):
are just rolling along heading toward halftime around the National
Football League. Eight games going on right now, plenty more
in start throughout the day. Keep it right here. This
is red Zone Radio.
Speaker 13 (40:04):
Tight end two receivers here to the left, and now
Williams is going to check out to the boundary at
the right. Car going to try and makes quicked up
pat it in the air in accepting Anderson's got it
thirty five thirty twenty five to twenty ten five touchdown.
Atlanta hate being elivated the inso Falcons have gone.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
In front on Troy Anderson's six six.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
That's ninety two nine in the game, Falcons Radio Network.
So the Saints lead is gone. Falcons now lead the
Saints seventeen to fourteen inside eight minutes to go in
the first half of that game. Once again, this is
Red Zone Radio. We're broadcasting live from the ti rag
dot com studios. Tire rack dot com. We're gonna help
get you there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road as a protection over ten thousand recommended installers, tire
(40:50):
rack dot com the way tire buying should be. It
has been an interesting start to this NFL Sunday eight
games going.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
On right now. We got two blowouts, one could get
a lot worse. In a second.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Vikings are leading on the road against the Backers twenty
one to nothing. Sam Darnold's been near perfect nine to
eleven hundred and fifteen yards and a couple of scores,
and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just beating up on
the Eagles, already up twenty one to nothing. They now
have a third and goal and I guess incomplete, so
fourth and goal looks like they may have to settle
(41:22):
for a field goal attempt.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
But you know, we were talking off air here.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
As Bo Benson, our producer, who is dizony until they
get rid of Nick Sirianni, says he's no longer an
Eagle fan.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
He wants him out the door.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
So I'm gonna ask you, Rich, there is a guy
sitting out there who led his last team to nine
Super Bowl appearances and won six of them, by the
name of Bill Belichick. If the Eagles were to call
Belichick and say, look, we feel like we're a better.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Team than we're showing on the field right now.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
We just need a legitimate coach because we don't believe
in Nick Sirianni anymore. Do you think he takes the call.
Do you think he'd be interested in the job, What
would make him interested in the job. How do you
think your former coach Bill Belichick would handle such a
phone call.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
He would say, no chance, unless you want to pay
me something ridiculous that will just piss everybody off. I mean,
it would have to be a contract so unbelievably large
to step in in the middle of a season to
be marred by whatever the outcomes are going to be
for the Eagles this season, that there would have to
(42:29):
be certainties and guarantees built into this contract like nothing
you've ever seen in the history of head coaching contracts. However,
I want to ask a question that I don't know
the answer to. Is it possible, even if you hire
an interim coach to finish out this season just to
save the spot on the Bengo board, is it possible
(42:52):
to sign a coach for a future season?
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Sure, if he's not under contract with any other team,
you can do that.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
See That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (42:59):
Like, you know, if you're going to hire a coach
who's currently retired, like a Pete Carroll or a Bill Belichick,
can you just say, hey, we want this guy.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
He's going to be our guy next year right now,
or whoever, our.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
Defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, a special teams coordinator is going
to take over for the remainder of the season, and
then when Bill comes in, he'll hire his new staff.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Oh absolutely, you can do that. And by the way,
I think that would be the play, because look, if
you're Belichick, you've got to get your presence felt.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
You can't do it in mid stream.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
I mean, you would walk into a locker room with
players you don't know. He doesn't want to do that.
He wants a fresh start. He wants to get his
people in place. You know, when you've had the control
that he had with the overall operation in New England
for as many years as he did, he wants a
similar situation now again, they've got a well established general
manager in Philadelphia who maybe in the Hall of Fame someday.
(43:55):
I mean, you know, when you look at Howard Roseman
is great, how he's how he's done some good things.
I know, you know, Eagle fans are hyper critical, as
we see with Bo Benson every day. But I mean
the bottom line is is that his resume looks pretty good,
and I don't know if he'd want to relinquish that
kind of control to someone like Bill Belichick.
Speaker 8 (44:11):
You know, as we're talking about things that will probably
never happen. The Chicago Bears scored a touchdown on offense.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
Yes, Rashawn Johnson there a short run, and just like that,
the Bears lead the Rams by score of seven to six.
By the way, that was after a Matthew Stafford fumble
gave the Bears some nice field position. Caleb Williams so
far five of eight twenty eight yards. They don't have
much offense at all. No, right now with the Bears,
(44:40):
it's been a struggle to watch.
Speaker 3 (44:42):
Is this on Eberflus? I mean, what's his status right now? Well?
Speaker 4 (44:46):
Well, iber Flues is obviously kind of the master and
commander there right, you know, so the buck stops with
your head coach. But Shane Waldron is guilty of some
of this. Caleb Williams, frankly is guilty of some of this.
There when did you step away from the game? My
final season twenty fourteen?
Speaker 8 (45:04):
So I think there's a chance that you could sign
with Chicago Bears right now and you might be their
best offensive lineman.
Speaker 4 (45:12):
This line is Chee thirty eight years old. If I
went out, I'd be able to give him hell for
about three plays, and I'm pretty sure my Knees.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
Would chat it now.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
I tell you the key would be Monsey doubling up
on your burrito or that's right, You're gonna have to
put some lbats back by the time we start seeing
bye weeks.
Speaker 4 (45:28):
If she keeps doubling up the taco and burrito order, yeah,
then maybe I'll be in playing shape that the tacos is.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
We're going straight to the crunch raps for you, sir, good,
very good stacking.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Did they bring back the Mexican pizza because I always
liked them?
Speaker 4 (45:41):
I think? Is it limited or is it maybe?
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Guys?
Speaker 2 (45:46):
I have an update on this Denver newing Uh Jets game.
Right now, the Jets with ten minutes ago in the
first half of a three to nothing lead, Aaron Rodgers
is two for seven for sixteen yards. He's and sacked
twice for eighteen yards. That means the Jets right now,
with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, have a net negative two
(46:06):
yards passing against the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
What am I missing here is.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
By the way, the Denver Broncos in this game, Bo
Nicks has almost unbelievable numbers. He's five of ten passing
for negative nine yards.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
He's got a two stroke lead in the Masters right now.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
So here's his leading receivers. You ready for this.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
McLoughlin one catch for zero yards, Von Walliams one catch
for negative one yards, Batty two catches for negative four yards,
and Troy Franklin one catch for negative four yards.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
Okay, giving us as we got.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
We got four guys that have caught passes and none
of them have a positive yard.
Speaker 4 (46:46):
There's still a lot of time in this game. There's
ten ten over ten minutes off in the second quarter.
But there have only been two first downs in the
game so far. Yeah, okay, both of them by the Jets.
And mind you, there have been eleven attempts on third
down I for the Denver Broncos, six for the Jets,
zero conversions. So neither of these offense are able to
(47:07):
move the ball. Look, the Jets have an astoundingly good defense.
They are loaded. If you look at the roster from
a personnel standpoint, Robert sala he can really coach the
defensive side of the ball. The Denver Broncos, look, they've
got a pass defense so good. I call him the
no fly Zone. No, I'm kidding, but they they've been
in some battles, and they've looked pretty good early. This
(47:29):
is the ugliest offensive performance of the NFL season so far.
Speaker 3 (47:34):
Okay, a quarter and a half.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
Okay, but again, Denver's got a rookie quarterback going against
an elite defense.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
That's right, what's Aaron Rodgers excuse well?
Speaker 4 (47:43):
I mean again, I.
Speaker 3 (47:44):
Mean, I mean you would think, all right, we're making progress.
Speaker 6 (47:48):
Right.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
The Jets are two and one, you know, and he's
getting more comfortable. He's been back on the field a
couple of weeks. They had extra time to prepare for
this game, and this is how you play, right.
Speaker 4 (47:58):
But I'll go back to what I said earlier about
Aaron Rodgers and about this Jets offense. It sounds counterintuitive
because Aaron Rodgers has been such a great quarterback for
so long in this league. But the reality is the
Jets are going to go as their running game goes.
I really feel strongly about that. If you can establish
a great running game, it's going to take the pressure
(48:19):
off of Aaron Rodgers. Against the Patriots in a twenty
four to three victory, a blowout on Thursday Night football,
they rush for over one hundred and thirty yards touchdown.
Speaker 8 (48:27):
The MVP races, folks.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
Yeah, Sam Donald just threw another touchdown pass, this one
to Justin Jefferson fourteen yards Vikings Pennanty extra point up
twenty seven.
Speaker 8 (48:37):
That was maybe my favorite Justin Jefferson touchdown in his
career so far.
Speaker 10 (48:40):
He's like Matt, He's.
Speaker 4 (48:41):
Like, I don't even understand you. Just look at him.
He shoves. Okay, So, so he is hand fighting with
the corner with his inside arm. He's running down the
right sideline right, so his right arm's free and he's
hand fighting with the corner so much so that he
can't his left arm. So no matter. Sam Donald painted
(49:03):
his jersey with the football. It bounces off his chest.
He catches it with one arm, and he takes that
left arm that he was hand fighting with and shoves
the corner past him, saying, hey, touchdown, idiot, and then
he danced the gritty on everyone.
Speaker 10 (49:17):
That was very well described to me.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
That is thank you.
Speaker 4 (49:21):
This is the Sam Donald story. I didn't think i'd
ever find a storyline of a backup quarterback rising to
prominence that I was going to fall in love with
more than how Joe Flacco jumped off a recliner and
took a team to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
But Sam Donald has quickly come into contention.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
By the way Expoing get twenty eight to nothing. So
what's the future JJ McCarthy in Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (49:46):
Well, to tie back if we can, if I can say,
to tie back to something me and Bo keep talking about,
and to tie to the bow Nicks conversation.
Speaker 4 (49:52):
Can they give him back to Michigan? Does he have eligibility.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
After that narrow winning against Minnesota said we.
Speaker 4 (49:59):
Want our pickback, but the Wolverines you get your quarterback.
Speaker 5 (50:02):
I think tying it all back to Bonnicks to like,
we are going to start heading to a future with
more teams. Just you're going to have to sit quarterbacks
no matter what you do. And I mean the Vikings
are in a good place because either you signed Seem
Donald to a three year deal or if he gets
signed somewhere else, that's fine. You can go to JJ.
I guess, but this is a very high level of
play from Sam.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
But yeah, well I don't know. Sam Donald obviously on
a one year deal with Minnesota. What do you do
if you're Sam Donald?
Speaker 4 (50:28):
Wow, look at this.
Speaker 5 (50:29):
I mean, Steelers don't go somewhere else. If they're giving
you the We're at.
Speaker 4 (50:32):
The fifteen yard line of the Colts and one of
their wide receivers got hit fumbled and our buddy reed
Blankenship dove on the football.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
Is that who it was?
Speaker 10 (50:45):
So George Pickens.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
And by the way, that was interesting a defender to
It was almost a hit to the helmet but wasn't.
And it was almost a horse caller but it wasn't. Yeah,
it was a legal hit.
Speaker 4 (50:59):
It was a legal hit.
Speaker 5 (51:00):
That was the most insane catch fumble I've seen, because
right before that Pickens like flipped a defender too.
Speaker 3 (51:06):
Just oh, by the way, it's Rodrigo blanket ship. Yes,
I got different blanking ship.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
Blank ship?
Speaker 3 (51:13):
How many blanken ships are there?
Speaker 2 (51:14):
All right? Rams, By the way, have a first intended
the Bears twenty yard line two minute warning, which gives
us a chance to take a little breather right now,
all right, we're heading at halftime around the National Football League.
Eight games going on right now. Some are blowout, some
are air tight. This is red zone radio. First and
goal from the fourteen. Darnold out of the shotgun, puts
(51:35):
Jefferson in motions to the right.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
He'll go that way to the end zone caught touchdown.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
You didn't mean with that catch.
Speaker 6 (51:42):
Jous Jefferson with a fourteen yard touchdown grab and the
Minnesota Vikings lead the Green Bay Packers at lambeau Field
twenty seven zero with five twenty eight to go in
the first half.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
That's k Fan one hundred boy three Vikings Radio Network
twenty eight to nothing. Right now, Vikings lead at Green
Bay once again. This is Red Zone Radio. We're live
from the tirerak dot com studios. We just heard a
stat here, guys, thank you. Largest lead for the Vikings
at lambeau Field, twenty eight point lead since nineteen seventy three.
(52:21):
That's back when fran Tarkington was leading that Vikings team
with the Purple People leaders against a not so good
Green Bay team.
Speaker 3 (52:28):
Twenty eight to nothing Vikings.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
Yeah, great defense, mobile dual threat quarterback sounds very familiar, right,
that's all the way back in the seventies. Everybody says,
oh my gosh, you know, the era of the dual
threat quarterback has begun.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
No, it hasn't. It's been there the whole time.
Speaker 4 (52:47):
Ever since the dawn of football, you had dual threat quarterbacks,
you know what they were called?
Speaker 3 (52:51):
Option quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
Yes, Rogers, Staubachwander, the Dodger that used to call them
by the way. Packers brought Jordan love back in nine
of fifteen ninety four yards, no touchdowns, two picks.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
Where's Malik Willis?
Speaker 4 (53:04):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (53:05):
Wow?
Speaker 4 (53:05):
Wow wow?
Speaker 2 (53:07):
Malik Willis two and zero is a starting quarterback? Jordan
love Well on his way to be ozho and two.
Speaker 4 (53:12):
Okay, look, I'm just I'm.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
Just sitting fat I and let's let's slow down.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
But I will say this, it's a good problem to have,
knowing that you have a competent backup, you have a
quarterback who's struggling with some injuries early this season. Green
Bay obviously hoping in what they perceived to be maybe
a winnable division depending on what happened with Detroit this
upcoming season. Obviously the Bears rebuilding with a new quarterback.
(53:42):
I don't think anybody saw the Vikings coming because Sam
Darnold has completely flipped the script. What he got.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
We have an eagle touchdown right now. I'm surprised that
Bo hasn't jumped all over this. Told us he's not
watching them anymore.
Speaker 4 (53:55):
He said, no more.
Speaker 8 (53:56):
I didn't even see that.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
The cam one yard.
Speaker 8 (54:00):
Yeah, something too to watch with the Packers here, Jordan
Love took a hit and then immediately got up and
was kind of like holding his knee a bit. So
it'll be interesting to see how long he stays in
this game remains.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
Another team hanging in there is the Carolina Panthers. Boy
do they look a lot different with a different quarterback.
As you know, Andy Dalton took over last week from
Bryce Young and had a great game and it's playing
well again today.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
Sixteen to twenty one hundred and thirty four yards. He touched,
He did have a.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
Pick in this game, but right now, the Panthers tied
with the Bengals at fourteen. And you know, again we
kept saying with Bryce Young, he's really not surrounded by
a lot of talent. You know, if he had better
talent than Andy Dalton, with the exact same supporting crew,
their offense looks completely different.
Speaker 4 (54:46):
Well, it just goes to show you how how hard
it is to play when a quarterback isn't ready. Okay,
so a great quarterback can elevate a roster. A good
quarterback you're probably going to have to surround with a
lot of talent. Now, I'm not saying Andy Dalton's great.
I'm saying that he's serviceable. And he stepped into a
(55:09):
situation where they were so used to maybe having to
slow things down for a young quarterback trying to learn that.
All of a sudden, this offense got a little bit
of a turbo boost, Like all of a sudden, you know,
you got this wide open air intake and you're revn
with a little bit more hps, a little bit more
horsepower than you had before, and you're like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
(55:31):
where did this come from? And you can start doing
things and then all of a sudden, defenses have to
prepare for so much more. You get used to seeing
the way the Carolina Panthers offense is working.
Speaker 3 (55:41):
For a little while.
Speaker 4 (55:42):
Defensively, you get lulled into almost a sense of comfort,
like you're like, ah, well, we know what young can do.
He can't throw this ball. They struggle here because he's
limited this way. Well, all of a sudden, Andy Dalton
comes out there, changes the complete the complexion of the
team completely and we're seeing that I don't I don't
know if it's sustainable. It may come back down to earth.
(56:03):
There will be hiccups along the way, but so far
much better with Dalton as compared to Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (56:09):
All Right, this is a combined possessions in this Broncos
Jets game here for this, Yeah, I'm just going to say,
without even giving you the team, because it doesn't matter. Fumble, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, fumble,
another field goal, punt, punt, another punt.
Speaker 3 (56:31):
Another punt.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
That's where we are in the possessions so far. Gosh
gets worse Broncos game, Broncos out of the ball.
Speaker 4 (56:42):
I'm telling you it gets worse than that. There have
been six total first downs with four minutes to play
in the first half. There have been now fourteen attempts
on third down to convert, only one conversion between the
two teams, and it was the Jets who have tried
eight they've successfully converted one, zero for six for the
Denver Broncos. Total yardage for both of these teams forty
(57:07):
five for the Jets, forty six for the Denver Broncos.
This is officially the ugliest half of football of the
twenty twenty four season.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
Okay, here's why I don't understand about passer rating. Okay,
so Bo Nicks in this game is seven of fourteen
for negative seven yards. Okay, so seven completions for negative
seven yards, and yet he has a fifty six quarterback rating.
Would you have like a zero rating if you were
seven of fourteen for negative seven yards?
Speaker 4 (57:34):
Well, it's weird, right, because like a perfect passer rating
is one fifty eight point three. Right, it's one fifty
eight point three. So let's put it this way. I
think I don't think a zero is actually a zero.
It's probably some number. Well, and maybe we've hit it. Well.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
He actually has a higher passer rating than Aaron Rodgers,
who's four for eleven for twenty two yards.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
This is Aarvon Rodgers four for eleven.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
I mean if this, I don't know if they're going
to get the ball back because this could at least
from a passing stats standpoint rank.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
Is his worst half passing ever?
Speaker 4 (58:09):
Do you remember? And I think it was last year.
I can't remember if it was last year or the
year before it, but Zach Wilson with the New York Jets, Yeah,
turned in a half of football where he may have
had negative six yards passing? Was that it was? I
may be mister remembering the stat but I remember watching
I think it was a Jets Patriots game where Zach
(58:31):
Wilson struggled so much where it was unfathomable the numbers
that they were posting in the passing game. And I'll
tell you what, they were close to winning that football
game like it was. It was like a one score
game at the end. It's crazy. We're literally seeing that
game all over again here with the Jets again on
one side of the docket and the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
Didn't we have who is the quarterback that backup quarterback
that threw like five interceptions in one half wasn't against
the chart?
Speaker 3 (59:00):
Oh yeah, when we were playing at the Peterman Nate Peterman.
Speaker 4 (59:04):
Nathan Peterman threw five first half interceptions against the Chargers
when he was the backup quarterback playing for maybe it
was the Bills.
Speaker 3 (59:14):
It was the Bills, Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, it was.
Speaker 4 (59:17):
Look that we've seen some needless to say, we've seen
some bad quarterback performances over the recent history in the NFL,
and largely because there have been injuries.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
That's not the excuse here.
Speaker 4 (59:31):
In the NFL, or I should say, in this Denver,
New York Jets game. Because Bonix is healthy, so is
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (59:37):
That was Nathan Peterman's first NFL game, That's what it was. Yeah,
and he threw five interceptions in one hand.
Speaker 4 (59:46):
I think he was filling in for an injured to
Rod Taylor maybe when he was the starting quarterback there.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
And but Rod, don't call me Tyrod Taylor. You and
I are the only ones that call him to Rod
because that's what his name.
Speaker 3 (59:56):
Actually, well that's.
Speaker 4 (59:57):
What if that's what his mom calls him. That's what
I'm calling him exact. I want to get in trouble
with miss Taylor, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
The Bengals have scored right before the half, twenty one
to fourteen Bengals on the road against the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
This is on a excuse me.
Speaker 2 (01:00:13):
Here, Zach Moss one yard reception from Joe Burrows. So
they will go into the half Bengals leading this game.
Absolute months game for the Bengals after their own three start.
And by the way, Joe Burrow again came into the
game with a passer rating of one hundred and two.
This game.
Speaker 3 (01:00:29):
He has a passer rating of one hundred and thirty
thirteen of nineteen hundred and sixty five yards and two score.
Still a lot of questions about this Bengals defense.
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Carolina has got well over two hundred total yards in
the first half against the Bengals defense.
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
Well, Andy Dalton used to playing AFC North schedule, and
I will see this though. It's fun when you're a
when you're a player who's bounced around the league a
little bit, and you play against one of your old
squad duds and you have a good outing, and sometimes
it's you're just motivated by Hey, you know, you should
(01:01:05):
have never moved on for me. And so Andy Dalton
might be trying to make a little bit of a statement.
I'll Malik Willis last week for the Packers against the
Tennessee Titans, there's a little bit of that, Hey, you
moved on for me, and that's your decision. But I'm
gonna make you pay every single time I face you.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
All Right, we're live from the tirag dot com studios.
Let's find out what is a trending right now? So Montie,
how are your fantasy teams doing it?
Speaker 7 (01:01:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:01:30):
I really don't want to talk about it right now, Steve,
but I'll tell you that I I've played Dak Prescotch
and I benched Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 10 (01:01:39):
Yeah, in one of them. What was I thinking? Oh yeah,
I was thinking Dak would go off against the Giants,
That's what I was thinking.
Speaker 11 (01:01:47):
Yes, No, not thinking Mayfield will go off against the Eagles.
Speaker 10 (01:01:50):
But what are we?
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
You know?
Speaker 7 (01:01:51):
So?
Speaker 11 (01:01:52):
And then the worst part is like I'm playing somebody
in that.
Speaker 10 (01:01:55):
It's just it's bad, guys, it's bad. I'm playing Derek.
Speaker 11 (01:01:58):
Carr and in that league, playing against the guy who
has Sam.
Speaker 10 (01:02:01):
Donald and Jonathan Taylor. I just here's the thing. This
year the NFL has really been super wild.
Speaker 11 (01:02:09):
It usually is, but I think it's even more wild,
like nothing is going the way people expect it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
Yeah. I come in with zero expectations. Yeah, I let
the games play out.
Speaker 10 (01:02:18):
Just let the games play out.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
One thing we do know. Nothing happens from one week
to the next now, nothing nothing good or bad.
Speaker 10 (01:02:25):
Yes, it's true. It's true. Eight games going on right
now to.
Speaker 11 (01:02:29):
Continue Week four of the NFL, and they're either at
halftime or approaching halftime all eight of them. The Falcons
are on top of the Saints seventeen fourteen Kirk Cousins
twelve of nineteen one hundred and thirty seven yards and
an interception.
Speaker 10 (01:02:42):
The Bears are beating the Rams ten to six.
Speaker 11 (01:02:45):
Matthew Stafford eleven of sixteen one hundred and twenty two yards.
It's been all Vikings against the Packers. You know, we
talked about this yesterday, Steve. Whether you put in Malik
willis whether you put in Jordan Love. Jordan Loved looks
a little bit rusty out there. Sam Darnold does not
eleven of fifteen one hundred and thirty six yards, three touchdowns,
Vikings twenty eight, Packers a big fat zero. The Colts
(01:03:07):
are beating the Steelers seventeen to three, and you were right,
rich Anthony Richardson's hip injury is what has kept him
out of the game.
Speaker 10 (01:03:14):
He will not return. Joe Flacco in for the Colts
the rest of the way.
Speaker 11 (01:03:18):
Broncos and Jets three zero, with New York on top
at home one minute to go in the first half.
Aaron Rodgers five of thirteen forty seven yards.
Speaker 10 (01:03:28):
I think I could do that. I think I could
do that.
Speaker 4 (01:03:31):
Guys would pay I don't even know, obscene amounts of
money to see that.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
By the way, By the way, he just completed another
pass to the game boss an. Guys, since that's that
he gave, he just completed another pass for zero yards.
Oh good, So now he's six or fourteen for forty seven.
Speaker 10 (01:03:54):
Yards again, guys, I think I can do that.
Speaker 11 (01:03:56):
I'm just saying the Buccaneers all over the Eagles. Baker
a twenty one thirty two, two hundred and thirty two yards,
two touchdowns in there, a rushing touchdown. Buccaneers beating the
Eagles twenty four is seven thirty seconds to go in
the first half of that one. You mentioned that the
Bengals did score right before halftime, Joe Burrow connecting with
Zach Moss and they are beating the Panthers twenty one.
Speaker 10 (01:04:15):
Fourteen, and then the Texans.
Speaker 11 (01:04:17):
Are up on the Jaguars at halftime seventeen thirteen. Other
NFL news, ESPN is reporting that Cowboys defensive end to
Marcus Lawrence, he's not going to need surgery because of
that Liz Frank injury that he suffered this past Thursday.
Speaker 10 (01:04:30):
The bones, I guess are not displaced, but he is
looking to a four.
Speaker 11 (01:04:35):
To eight week absence for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 10 (01:04:38):
So no bueno.
Speaker 11 (01:04:39):
And the AP poll for college football is out. Who's
number one?
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Alabama? They deserve it.
Speaker 11 (01:04:47):
They deserve it. Alabama has now snuck in to the
number one.
Speaker 10 (01:04:50):
Texas Ohio State, Tennessee Georgia.
Speaker 11 (01:04:52):
Are the top five, but UNLV the whole drama with
the quarterback that decided to not play well.
Speaker 10 (01:04:58):
They've won four in a row and.
Speaker 11 (01:05:00):
There are tied for the twenty fifth spot with Texas
A and M. It's the first time in there in
their history that they've cracked the twenty five eight people.
Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
I heard Nick Staban talk about this you want to
be quarterback that apparently they didn't deliver what they promised
as far as nil, so he just walked yes, and
he says it only takes one to do it, and
then you will see a steady stream follow like if
you don't. You brought me here with the promise of
certain nil money and if you don't deliver, I'm out
(01:05:31):
of here.
Speaker 11 (01:05:31):
I also heard that another school offered him money and.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
That's why he's of course more money.
Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
That's amazing how money works, isn't it.
Speaker 8 (01:05:39):
It's just see, do you know, is there like some
kind of legal document that someone can sign that's like
a binding agreement between two parties.
Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
You can sign contracts.
Speaker 5 (01:05:48):
Are are you implying that they would be employees of
that university, donbo.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Interesting, Well, no, they would be signing contracts with the
nil money.
Speaker 8 (01:05:57):
Oh yeah, yeah, it would be a third party, like
with the car dealership that they're responsible.
Speaker 4 (01:06:02):
Okay, so listen, this is a car dealership. This is
all just hearsay. But I've heard I've heard a charitable
let's say, summation of events for UNLV, and I've heard
of charitable summation events for Matthew Sluca. If you believe
everything you're hearing from the Sluca family, promises were made
something to the tune of six figures we're going to
(01:06:24):
be given to him if he joined the UNLV Rebels
and played quarterback for them, and he was only given
three thousand dollars through the first quarter of their season,
which if we're doing the math, he's owed twenty five
thousand dollars if he's if he was promised one hundred
thousand dollars and he got something far short of that. Okay,
So that's the charitable version for Sluca. Here's the other
(01:06:44):
version of it. Nothing was ever promised to him before
he showed up to UNLV, and after the third game,
walked into the office and went, hey, I want three
hundred thousand dollars, and they went, yeah, no, we can't
do that. And so that is again, this is all hearsay.
(01:07:04):
These are things that are floating out there in the ether.
And I have not seen or heard that number three
hundred thousand dollars. Again, I've seen and heard obviously we've
seen source reports about one hundred thousand dollars. But there's
just a lot of rumors flying around this story. I
don't know if we'll ever know the exact truth, but
one thing we do know is he's no longer with
you ONLV.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
All Right, a single play can turn a game around.
So twenty eight to nothing Vikings inside a minute ago
in the first half and a muff punt completely lost
in the sun by the Vikings walking touchdown for the Packers.
But now they're saying, no, you can't advance the muff.
So it'll be first in goal for the Packers at
(01:07:46):
the Minnesota three yard line with thirty nine seconds to
go in the half.
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
So here they are right there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
Rich Packers have a chance at least get on the
board before they have but this thing has been all vikings.
And it was a ball lost in the sun obviously
on the muff punt return, and the Packers have an
opportunity at the three yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:08:05):
And that looks like a touchdown. That looks like a
touchdown Steve. Oh, they're gonna say its feet were in
the end zone, but the ball was outside of the
end zone.
Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
And the reception they said that, Wow, never crossed the
line when he had the ball. This will be reviewed.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
Oh we didn't have control. Oh there you go, there
you go. Yeah, Okay, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
A great it's inside the one yard line. Now second
and goal. But this kind of play, especially when you're
at home, sort of get the crowd back in it
when you've just absolutely laid an egg in the first half.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
So that was a correct call.
Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
Great call by the way by the officiating crew. That
was that was gathered at the one yard line. Yeah,
and there was a very very it was Matthew Lafloor.
Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
Yeah, you had coachman. Oh, he's screaming it.
Speaker 4 (01:08:44):
They might get flag front sportsman like on the coach
because he's losing his mind. I think he ran down
the field on.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Yeah field, Okay, he's had an embarrassing half as a coach, obviously,
and the call was the right call.
Speaker 4 (01:08:58):
It was the right call if you look at the
the video footage right down the line of the one
yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
Though it I mean it got to be.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
He gotta be. One of his assistants say, look by now,
they've seen the play, but somebody on the sideline has
seen the play.
Speaker 4 (01:09:13):
I'm curious if the discussion wasn't about the muff punt.
I'm not sure if there's.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
No no, no, no, no no, because he was the one
official was talking about. He extended his hands saying he
had to regrip the ball, and we get an unsportsmanlike conduct.
Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
Do you think one of the refs hold wow? I
think I think he did. I think he did. Did
he just arewelcomed on this show?
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
But are they going to move the ball back fifteen yards?
Speaker 4 (01:09:40):
That's what unsportsmanlike is when you're a head coach and
you get unsportsmanlike and your team is at the one
yard line, boyl boy, that is that's that's a bad
look for the Green Bay Packers, right, And he.
Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
Did not have possession of the ball in the end zone.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Clearly he did not.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
He did not.
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
He had to regrip the ball and he was back
out into the and Lafourt just absolutely lost it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
He was on the field.
Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
Look at him.
Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
What is wrong with.
Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
You, dude?
Speaker 4 (01:10:07):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
I know it's twenty eight to nothing Vikings and you're
getting blown out on your own.
Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
Check this out. This is how embarrassing this is. If
they don't convert on this, if they don't leave with
seven points, what he's sacrificing is a fourteen point swing
because the Vikings started the game with the football, so
it's Green Bay ball after the half. You know, if
they score here, they get seven points, and then you score,
you bracket the half with scores. All of a sudden,
(01:10:32):
this immanageable ballgame. You know you're down fourteen still, but
you're at home. There's things in your favor. You could
get some momentum going.
Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
He could.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
He is still screaming, this is unbelievable. Hey has completely lost.
So now it's second and goal at the fifteen yard line. Wow,
with twenty seconds left in the hack.
Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers got sacked, and I think the Jets
are just what looked like a pretty good chance for
a couple tosses into the red zone for a time
touchdown before the half. They're just going to settle for
a field goal. Here a field.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Goal is missed. Wow he bare.
Speaker 4 (01:11:10):
All right, So six nothing ball game in New York Denver,
trailing against the Jets. And that is the the end
to one of the worst halfs of football we've seen. Offensively,
that was ugly.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
Meanwhile, again we're keeping our eye on this Packers game.
Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
All right, here we go. We're back to action.
Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
Second and goal from the fifteen yard line after an
unsportsmanlike conduct call on your coach Lafleor, and Jordan Love
throws a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (01:11:39):
Wow, wow, touchdown Green Bay.
Speaker 4 (01:11:42):
That was a gorgeous ball, perfect and that was a
great catch, a terrific concentration catch by the Packers receivers
Jaden Reid who came up with it.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Man, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (01:11:54):
So back shoulder throw from Jordan Love, one on one
coverage down the far sideline away from the and that
is a ball that was placed on the back of
the helmet of the defender and perfectly executed catch, high
pointing the football by Reid. So Jordan Love a play
later throws another touchdown pass the first one wasn't really
(01:12:15):
a touchdown it was. It was really a one yard
throw to the one yard line. But that's how it goes,
all right. So Green Bay, look, they still can bracket
the half with points. They score here and they do
point extra good. So it's a twenty eight to seven
ball game, and they got to kick it off. My
guess is they'll squib it down to Minnesota. They'll go
(01:12:36):
in at a halftime and they'll try to circle the
wagons here, try to score fast in the start of
the second half, and then all of a sudden, you
have a ballgame.
Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
Well, last time I saw a team down twenty eight
to nothing and come back was Oh, I don't know.
Last night. That would be Georgia down twenty eight nothing
in Alabama. They am going to take in the league.
So look out for the Packers right now unless the
MVP Sam Darnold can regain control.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
All right, we're heading to halftime.
Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
We got half time around the National Football League. Eight
exciting games going on right now. Much more coming up
right here on Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:13:07):
Third and goal from the.
Speaker 9 (01:13:08):
One six seconds left in the half. Fourteen fourteen is
the score. Burrow waiting back at the six for the
snap from Ted Carris, Joe Catches throws a swing pass,
Moss slipped but dies.
Speaker 14 (01:13:20):
For the end zone and gets in touchdown Bengals with
one second left in the half. A risky call. They
passed it into the flat short of the end zone.
Zach Moss actually slipped but got back on his feet
and scored.
Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
That's Bengals Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
Let me ask you this, Rich, In all your years
as a analyst on the radio, yeah, have you ever said.
Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, as an analysis on a touchdown play?
Speaker 4 (01:13:52):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Okay, I'm just wondering.
Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
Once again. We are live from the tire Racket dot
Com studios. This is red Zone Radio all right half
times around the NFL, which gives us an opportunity to
take a little sneak peek on what's happening later on Today.
I want to ask you about this Chiefs Chargers game,
just like last week the forty nine er Ram game,
which the Rams amazingly came back to win that game.
(01:14:16):
I had several friends at SOFI Stadium, eight forty nine
Er fans at least.
Speaker 4 (01:14:22):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
I took my sons to a Chiefs Chargers game at
SOFI a couple of years ago. It's like ninety percent
Chiefs fans just a sea of red. It'll be a
similar situation today. But let me ask you this. You've
got Justin Herbert re injuring that high ankle spring last
week against Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
We were talking about he.
Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
Looks pretty good out there, like, doesn't look like he's hurt,
and then he reinjured. This is a This is a
very stubborn injury. High ankle springs, they don't heal quickly,
but you're gonna throw them out there in a game
against one of the best defenses in the league in
the Chiefs, and you're without Joe Alt, who, even as
a rookie, might be your best offensive line right now?
(01:15:01):
Is this a necessary risk for the Chargers sitting at
two and one right now? I mean, I get if
you're a zero and three or one and two, but
you're you're two and one. If he reinjures that in
that high inkle spraying again, he could be out. I
know they have a buy coming up, they have an
early buy with the Chargers, And that was another point.
Speaker 3 (01:15:20):
You got an early buy. Why not sit him against
the Chiefs?
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Just take the l let him sit out another week
with the buy and then get him ready, even if
you're sitting at two and two.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
Okay, So there's a lot to unpack here. Justin Herbert
is an incredible quarterback. He's a great decision maker. When
he's on the football field. The threat of his deep
ball accuracy forces defenses to react differently and to scheme
differently against him than any of the backups to have
(01:15:53):
available in Los Angeles, So we'll start there. So having
him on the football field benefit to your offense, even
if it's just by presence alone, even if you're not
gonna ask him to do much, even if you are
gonna rely on JK. Dobbins and what's been a fairly
dominant run game over the course of this short season.
Even if that's the case, just having him out there
(01:16:15):
is a threat. So the answer to your question is
if he can go, he has to go. Now logically,
you know, and in practice will it work out for
the Chargers, We don't know because it's highly variable. Is
he gonna get hit low, is the offensive line gonna
hold up, are they gonna be able to run the football?
Is it gonna turn into one of those games where
(01:16:36):
they have to rely on Justin Herbert to throw the
ball million times, and it's gonna turn into a herculean
task for him to win a football game and play hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
But here's the deal.
Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
Players are also competitors, and they want to play football
if they feel like they're healthy enough. If there's one
thing about Justin Herbert is his ability to play through
injury is elite. He's been banged up his whole career.
He has rarely had a full season where he's been
even close to one hundred percent healthy. But he will
(01:17:10):
get out there and he has a fortitude to fight
through things that a lot of quarterbacks may not want to.
Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
So you kind of gott.
Speaker 4 (01:17:16):
To let a guy play if he's willing to play,
especially when he's as important to your success as Justin Herbert.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Well, again, they have a bye week next week. I
would have sat him.
Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
No, I don't, just because let's put it this way.
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
If you go out there and you beat the Chiefs
and then he gets an opportunity to get healthy, rest
that ankle a little bit, man, Does that feel a
lot better than falling to the Chiefs and then having
to dig yourself out of a hole. Not only record overall,
but also in your division. That's a game lost in division.
You want to at least split in your division at
(01:17:50):
least and winning against the Chiefs, man, would that be
a coup Earlier in the season.
Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
The only thing in their favor is the Chiefs have
not played well. No, they've been surviving, that's the other.
Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
But their defense is elite and without Joels, got that
group gone.
Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
I mean, I'll put it this way.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
If the Chiefs get an early ten to nothing fourteen
nothing lead, forcing Herbert to start to drop back to pass, well,
you're risking it. A couple of updates, the Eagles have
scored on their opening drive of the second half and
they are back in this game. Buccaneers twenty four fourteen
over the Eagles. It was a sneak by the way
(01:18:27):
that sneak stuff where they have like you know, the
Eagles do it like no other, but without Jason Kelsey
takes a little extra effort. With Kelsey, it just seemed
like it was automatic. This time. It took a couple
of attempts using that formation they use to get it
into the end zone.
Speaker 4 (01:18:42):
Well, Jason Kelsey, what he had such a unique ability
to do is he well two things. One he had
a low center of gravity, and he had an incredible
ability and a flexibility and an agility to scramble out
of his stance and get yardage where there was. He
could submarine a nose tackle and bring him with him,
(01:19:03):
almost like carrying him on his back like a canyon mule.
The other thing he was able to do is he's
a twitchy athlete, and not a lot of times do
we consider offensive lineman athlete. I promise you they are.
When he stepped the football, he moved so quickly. His
first step got in the ground so fast that he
would legitimately surprise the defender in front of him. And
(01:19:26):
that creates leverage, and that timing is everything, especially on
a sneak play.
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
All right, the Bengals have scored again. They lead the
Panthers twenty eight to fourteen. I think that was a
let me get an update on that Legers score right here,
twenty eight to fourteen, Bengals right now, just underway in
the second half, and that last score was give you
a little update here. Okay, here we goes Chase Brown
a one yard run. Chase Brown a one yard run.
(01:19:52):
So Bengals now with a twenty eight to fourteen lead.
All right, we're in the second half around the NFL.
Keep it here with all the updates. This is read
Zone Radio. Run sets um up, another touch, push coming,
Jalen Hurts under center, goes over the top.
Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
Did he get in?
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
They haven't indicated yet, No indication.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
By the officials.
Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
Well that's ninety four WIP Eagles Radio Network and the
indication is Jalen Hurst dig it in the end zone
and the Eagles cut that buccaneer's lead to twenty four
to fourteen inside ten minutes ago in the third quarter
of This is red Zone Radio. We're broadcasting live from
the tire rack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
Tire rack dot com.
Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
We're going to help get you there and unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road as a protection over ten thousand
recommending installers, tire rack dot com the way tire buying
should be.
Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
I want to bring Bo in right now.
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Maybe a little relieved that the Eagles will at least
making a game of this right now, But Bo, we
understand that Tom Brady, broadcaster Tom Brady made a common
in reference to Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 8 (01:20:55):
Can you set this up last? So Baker Mayfield? He
basically claimed that Buccaneers players were not having fun before
he got there. So they read that quote to Tom
on the broadcast, and Tom responded.
Speaker 13 (01:21:08):
Quote, they wanted me to come in, be myself, bring
the joy back to football for guys.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
And weren't having as much fun.
Speaker 13 (01:21:13):
It's funny because you've made this environment for me very
stressful up here in the booth.
Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
So I understand where it's coming from.
Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
Do you feel no respress?
Speaker 4 (01:21:20):
Know?
Speaker 15 (01:21:20):
Well, I was gonna say I thought stressful was not
having Super Bowl rings. So there was a mindset of
a champion that I took to work every day.
Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
This wasn't daycare.
Speaker 15 (01:21:33):
If I wanted to have fun, I was going to
go to Disneyland with my kids.
Speaker 3 (01:21:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:21:38):
So you know, as you were saying, go ahead, let's
you feel like I feel like there's more in there
to say.
Speaker 3 (01:21:45):
There's a way to approach this game.
Speaker 15 (01:21:46):
Yeah, and it's that with the with the right mindset
and try to push each other outside of our comfort zone.
Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
And great teammates do that.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
You come in.
Speaker 15 (01:21:53):
I have someone like Gronkowska, I have someone like Evans.
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
There's high expectations for us. We got to make sure
we go out there and livery.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
The competitive juice is still flowing still in there.
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
I love no apologies.
Speaker 2 (01:22:07):
Well, first of all, my reaction is I agree with
Tom Brady. I mean, you know, you bring me in
with the idea of we want to win a championship. Well,
I'll tell you how to win a championship. You got
to be all business. And he has to convey that
to his teammates. Obviously you were his teammate. I would
imagine that as a quarterback, super Bowl winning quarterback as
(01:22:30):
Tom Brady was, is that he was a no nonsense
guy and demanded the most out of his teammates.
Speaker 4 (01:22:36):
Yeah. Listen, years ago, I got somehow involved in this
this weird swirling you know, controversy in in Tampa Bay
about some of the discord between he and Bruce Arians.
I put out a tweet that sort of, you know,
(01:22:57):
I guess put put in no uncertain terms that there
was a way that it was happening in Tampa Bay,
that that was before Tom showed up, and then there
was a way that Tom's expectations wanted it to go,
and those were differing viewpoints. And you know, when when
(01:23:19):
you've heard Bruce Arians over the course of his career,
say hey, I want my assistant coaches to go and
make sure they make it to their their daughter's dance recital.
And I want to make sure that my assistant coaches
get to their kids, you know, soccer games and softball
games and baseball games. Tom Brady doesn't view life that way.
Tom Brady just doesn't view football.
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
In the job that way.
Speaker 4 (01:23:40):
He's showing up every day to put as much time
in it as it takes to win and to win championships.
Not just to win regular season games, but to win
it all. And he did that in his first season
as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback. Now listen that philosophy.
It differs from place to place to place. When I
was playing in New England with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady,
(01:24:03):
we did things one way. When I was playing in
Arizona with Ken wizen Hunt and we had a couple
different starting quarterbacks, it was a very different feel. When
I was playing with Mike McCoy and Philip Rivers, it
was closer to what it was in New England, but
it was done differently. But I can tell you the
most success I had in my career was with Tom
Brady that's that's the facts. We won more games, we
(01:24:27):
made more playoffs than any other place I had been
and it's because every single moment was executed with excruciating detail.
And by the way, that's not fun. I mean, I
I don't know if we're there to have fun. Okay, okay,
(01:24:47):
I want to take this next level. Let's let's take
this off the football field for just a moment.
Speaker 8 (01:24:52):
Real not to interrupt your wonderful conversation here, guys, but
Caleb Williams just had a throw that made Chris and
Ize jaws drop in the studio with a time absolutely interrupted.
Speaker 4 (01:25:01):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
So they are now up on the Rams seventeen to nine.
Bears have taken control at least temporarily in that game.
And by the way, speaking of scores, we just had
another score from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that we're talking
about on a short run by Irving, So thirty fourteen
there bucks matching that Eagles touchdown waiting on the extra point.
Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
But my point is this, by the way, that was
a twelve play seventy yard drive that Baker Mayfield and
that offense put together. So very impressive day from Baker Mayfield,
who is at the heart of this little back and forth,
this little tif for tap between he and Tom Brady
right now.
Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
By the way bolt predictions, Yes, go ahead, No, I'm
just waiting to see what happened here. I'm pretty sure
the two point conversion by the Buccaneers just got taken
the entire length of the field back by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 8 (01:25:53):
They must have blocked the extra pointed it for two points,
and they did.
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
The Eagles get two points version on a blown two point. No, no,
it was a pH So this is a one point
defensive conversion unless you know it's a two point unless
he set out of bound.
Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
He might have stepped out.
Speaker 4 (01:26:16):
Hang on, hang on, hang on, No, no, no, he's
the second one.
Speaker 3 (01:26:22):
He's in. Wow, he got it all right.
Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
So instead of thirty one to fourteen Buccaneers, it's now
thirty to sixteen the Buccaneers over the Eagles. So all
of a sudden, the Eagles are within two scores. So
that's a good deal for the Eagles. But my point
is when we talk about fun and work, I mean,
you like to have a positive atmosphere at work.
Speaker 3 (01:26:43):
We have a lot of fun here.
Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
But I mean most people go to work, and you
go to work, right, you put your nose to the grindstone,
and then on your own time you final have fun. Well,
this idea that it's got to be fun for everybody
at the NFL level, are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (01:26:58):
Hang on, here's the thing. You can have highly stressful
occupations and still find fun. Look, I mean, there are
surgeons who are dealing with life or death. There are
police officers, first responders, men and women serving this country
in the military who will tell you some of their
fondest memories on the job is the camaraderie they have
with their the friends, the lifelong friends that they've made
(01:27:21):
along the way.
Speaker 3 (01:27:22):
And these are highly stressful work environments.
Speaker 4 (01:27:24):
Now, football, it's a game, but if you're going to
play that game at the highest possible level. And by
the way, there are some pretty significant consequences of playing football.
You see life and career altering injuries on a near
daily basis when you're playing football. So there are some risks,
not nearly to the level of there are if you're
(01:27:45):
an active worker in the field policing or in the military.
But I digress. My point is, though, even in highly
stressful environments, you can have fun and trust me, in
New England, there was times of levity where we would
goof around and have a good time. But for the
most part, on the field, we knew what we were
there to do. We were there to go out there
(01:28:06):
and kick some ass and win some championships. And with
Tom Brady, guess what that's all they did for twenty years.
Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
All right, Jaguars right now trailing the Texans seventeen to thirteen,
have a third and four at the Houston eight yard line. Again,
the Jags won of three winless teams and they are desperate.
Speaker 3 (01:28:27):
And they need to win today and right now in
a position to get it done. CJ.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Stroud in this game, by the way, fifteen of twenty three,
two hundred and fifteen yards, one touchdown, no picks, and
Trevor Lawrence hasn't been terrible. He is fifteen to twenty three,
fourteen to twenty three, one hundred and fifty three yards
and he just threw a touchdown pass. So the Jags
have taken the lead here against the Texans. This will
be a big story for the Jags. All the turmoil
(01:28:55):
that we heard in Jacksonville this week. Doug Peterson, you
know Trevor Lawrence. They can come up and get their
first win of the year on the road against the Texans,
It's a big deal.
Speaker 3 (01:29:07):
That would be a big deal. See South rival division
win for them win.
Speaker 2 (01:29:11):
I mean, we got a long way to go, but
they have taken a nineteen seventeen.
Speaker 4 (01:29:15):
League and it's not like they've played against slouches again.
Regardless of what you think of the Browns now versus
the start of this season, that's a really good roster
with a huge question mark at quarterback. Dolphins. Very good
team builds, very good team. They go into a little
bit of an easier schedule. Also coming up next with
the Jags, they'll face the Colts at home. They'll host
(01:29:35):
the Bears before hosting the Patriots. So you get back
to back to back home games.
Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
Oh wow.
Speaker 4 (01:29:42):
No, they have a fourth home game against the Green
Bay Packers, so they get to host their next four
games in Jacksonville. You know this this season could turn
around for the Jaguars with a winner on the road today.
Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
By the way Steelers, So we talked about it. They
were down seventeen nothing to the Colts. Could Justin Fields
lead them back? Now with Justin Fields, they're three and all.
They've been doing it with defense. By the way, how
about this stat. In their first three games, total offense
for their opponents was two hundred and twenty nine yards
a game. They gave up two hundred and thirty nine
in the first half alone against the Colts. But right now,
(01:30:17):
the Steelers have a first and goal at the eleven
yard line after a false start moved them back five yards.
But obviously if the Steelers get on the board to
get in the end zone here, they're right back in
this game. Fields using his legs right now, scrambling, he's
inside the five.
Speaker 3 (01:30:33):
That's a shot to the head.
Speaker 4 (01:30:34):
Well, i'll tell you what, justin Fields, he did the
only thing he could do there, because in the red zone,
tight windows. The Colts know what they're dealing with that quarterback.
And they said to themselves, all right, buddy, try to
beat us with your arm. If you're gonna drop back
there and bounce on your feet and look for an
open window here, and you're gonna send five or four
receivers downfield, guess what, We're gonna play coverage and you're
(01:30:55):
gonna have to make a throw that beats our zone.
Speaker 3 (01:30:58):
And you know what, justin field is gonna do.
Speaker 4 (01:31:00):
He's gonna survey the scene and say, okay, okay, defense,
you're only rushing four. Well, I'm gonna take it with
my legs. And that's what he did. He made it
a shorter distance for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's now second
in goal from the Colts five yard line. He throws
a floater out towards the side. It is dangerous knock
to the turf by a Colts defender, and all of
a sudden it's stirred and goal from the five.
Speaker 2 (01:31:21):
All right, And by the way, the Rams are rebounding
after that Bear's touchdown. We are at the end of
the third quarter. There the Rams, trailing seventeen to nine,
have a second and goal at the Bear's four yard line.
All right, we're heading to fourth quarters. Around the National
Football League. This is where it really gets interesting, folks.
Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
Keep it here for all the latest. This is red
zone radio.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
Outside of him, I don't say snap to Canna Williams
in the pocket, scanning, throwing back of the end zone,
creep down, back of the end zone, TAJ four touchdown,
touchdown Bears. That's the Bears. Radio network gave them a
seventeen to nine lead. Rams can scored a touchdown, failed
(01:32:02):
on the two point conversion. So we're just at the
start of the fourth quarter right now. Bears lead the
Rams by a score of seventeen to fifteen. This is
Red Zone Radio. Steve Hartman and Rich Arnberger with you.
We are live from the tire rack dot Com studio.
So a quick rundown of the scoreboard right now. We
mentioned Bears lead the Rams seventeen fifteen. Just started the
fourth quarter there inside twelve minutes to go in the
(01:32:23):
fourth quarter, Falcons lead the Saints twenty to seventeen, six
and a half minutes to go on the third quarter.
Vikings lead the Packers twenty eight to seven. Two minutes
to go on the third quarter. After a Justin Field's run,
the Steelers have cut the Colts lead to seventeen to ten.
Speaker 5 (01:32:41):
Dan Colts has got hit with an unnecessary roughness, so
I think Pittsburgh might be dealing close to the red
zone again.
Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
All right, So keep our eye on Pittsburgh trying to
engineer a comeback on the road against the Colts.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Mean, while the ugly game of the day.
Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
Three minutes to go on the third quarter, Jets lead
the Broncos sixth to nothing, and we got the Broncos
right now with a third and seven at the Jets
eight yard line. Buccaneers over the Eagles thirty to sixteen
inside a minute to go in the third, Bengals lead
the Panthers thirty one to fourteen three minutes ago in
the third, and the Jaguars have a first and goal
(01:33:15):
at the Houston four yard line, leading the Texans twenty
to seventeen inside two minutes ago in the third. So
I'm looking was.
Speaker 5 (01:33:22):
It was Colts on offense and the Steelers got called
front necessary roughness?
Speaker 4 (01:33:26):
Yeah, so it's the Colts who are currently at the twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:33:30):
Yard Yeah, where are the yard line?
Speaker 4 (01:33:32):
Forty yard line going in against the Steelers who are
facing a second and seven as we have a Courtland
Sutton touchdown thrown by bow Nicks. So all of a sudden,
we have a tight ballgame in New York six '
six pending the extra point.
Speaker 3 (01:33:47):
Is this would be a horrific loss for the Jets. Yeah, yeah,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
You're you're talking about a rookie court of Bownicks. Before
that throw was nine to twenty one for forty one yards.
So they get the touchdown and and the Jets have
just not done anything, only one hundred and forty one
total yards in this game. Aaron Rodgers twelve to twenty
two and twenty yards, but again they have yet to
(01:34:13):
get in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (01:34:14):
Extra point is good.
Speaker 2 (01:34:15):
So the Broncos lead the Jets seven to six three
minutes to go in the third quarter. And this again
we get back to a Jets team that, you know,
you we looked at their schedule.
Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
Did he get that second foot down? He might have.
They're taking a look at it. It looks like he may
have dragged it Jets or had an extra point, So
it's over. Yeah, that was a beautiful jet by Carlow.
That did that mean a light toe? Joe Flacco, who.
Speaker 4 (01:34:40):
Is in for the injured Anthony Richardson, is manufacturing a
heck of a ballgame for the Indianapolis Colts. After that
personal foul against the defense putting the Colts in Steelers territory,
Joe Flacco, facing a third and seven from about near
the Steelers forty, throws us Drake to slot receiver Josh
(01:35:02):
Downs and he takes it inside the twenty yard line
out out about the fifteen yard line. So the Colts
looking to score here as this game is continuing to
tick away for the steel Airs have.
Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
Just opened up their lead. DeAndre Swift touchdown pending extra point,
twenty three to fifteen.
Speaker 2 (01:35:19):
Yeah, that was a thirty six yard touchdown run by
DeAndre Swift right there. Eleven carries eighty yards on the
day for him. Caleb Williams sixteen to twenty two hundred
and forty eight yards, one touchdown. Key stat here, no interceptions,
pretty even game matchup. Total yards in this game, almost
identical numbers between the Bears and the Rams. So let's
(01:35:40):
see if the Rams can answer again after last week.
Speaker 3 (01:35:42):
I mean, that was unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
The Rams looked dead, dead dead against the forty nine ers,
and they came back to win that game. It was
a hostile crowd, even at home eighty forty nine er fans.
I had several friends that were at that game at
Sofi Stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
It was a sea of red.
Speaker 2 (01:35:59):
They were rocking, you know, And we know that Kyle
Shanahan has always seemed to have Sean mcvay's number and
regular season games, and yet the Rams came back to win.
So Matthew Stafford still has little gas left in the
tank right now. But right now, the Bears have a
nine point lead inside thirteen minutes to.
Speaker 3 (01:36:17):
Go in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:36:18):
Also, we have a seven or should say twenty three
to seventeen ballgame in Atlanta Falcons right now with the
football and the Saints are trailing. It was pretty crazy
start to this game. So the Falcons first, their first
two drives resulted in a punt and an interception. The
Saints first two drives touchdown touchdowns. So they have a
(01:36:40):
fourteen to nothing lead early in this game, and all
of a sudden, the Falcons roar back. They get that
interception return for a touchdown and they've taken the lead.
And so it's it's been kind of back and forth
matchup between these two NFC South rivals. I think that
the Falcons in the preseason, many of us because Kirk Cousins,
(01:37:01):
who he had been in Minnesota, assuming the Achilles as well,
would have been the missing piece for the Falcons to
have some success. Derek Carr and the Saints offense has
been a great surprise two and one football team. This
would be an enormous win for the Saints to legitimize
what we've seen early this season. It's starting to feel
more and more like a must win for the Falcons,
(01:37:22):
who will drop to one and three on the season
if they don't get this victory at home.
Speaker 3 (01:37:27):
Panthers are back on the board.
Speaker 2 (01:37:28):
They have cut the Bengals lead to ten after a
twenty one yard touchdown pass from Andy Dalton to Deontay Johnson. Again,
I don't want to overplay this, but I have to
because our argument, and both Rich and I were sort of,
you know, siding with Bryce Young, saying, look, give him
the chance. It's too early to pull the plug, you know,
Let's give him some talent around him. Andy Dalton has
(01:37:51):
literally stepped.
Speaker 16 (01:37:52):
In and.
Speaker 2 (01:37:55):
All of a sudden, it's like, wow, we got players here.
You know, Chuba Hubbard is jed. He has ninety six
yards rushing in a score in this game. All of
a sudden, he got Johnson lagat you got receivers on
this team. It's amazing when he actually have a quarterback
that knows what he's doing. To amplify the fact that, oh, yeah,
these guys are NFL players. These are guys that have
(01:38:15):
had some success at some point of their careers. If
you got the right trigger guy, it can happen, and
it's happening in Carolina.
Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
Even though they trail the Bengals thirty one to twenty one.
Speaker 4 (01:38:25):
Well yeah, look they're they're losing by ten points here
as the third quarter is taking away. But the Carolina Panthers,
there's no questioning it. They look vastly different with Andy
Dalton under center than they did with Bryce Young.
Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
It's not even close.
Speaker 4 (01:38:41):
CHUPA. Hubbard also has been a nice surprise for the
Carolina Panthers with a better passing game. Go figure, he's
having more success and the Colts get in touchdown Indianapolis,
who extend their lead. Now Drew Ogletree, their tight end
untouched until he was breaking the plane of the end zone,
(01:39:02):
gets in on a Joe Flacco strike heart a dart
from Joe Flatt twenty three to ten.
Speaker 3 (01:39:08):
They heed right now, Let's let's get back to the
Joe Flacco situation.
Speaker 4 (01:39:11):
Joe Flaco.
Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
So Joe Flacco, I mean, it's not like he's been
perfect out there, but he does have two touchdown passes
in this game. They showed Anthony Richardson, he's out with
that hip injury, and he's you know, celebrating. Obviously, his
team is up twenty three to ten, penning the extra point,
but the Colts are one and two. He win this game,
you get to two and two. Now you're back in
the mix, right. Anthony Richardson says, I'm ready. I'm ready
(01:39:34):
to get back in coach, and you're like, yeah, well,
you know Flacco is pretty good. Last year he you know,
led Cleveland to the playoffs. Wait, why don't want you
rest that hip another week? I look, what do you do?
It's it's a great problem to have. I think fans
want to see wins, and so if you're in a
situation where you have a hot quarterback and you got
(01:39:55):
a guy who may benefit from maybe taking a little
longer getting back from an injury, you do it.
Speaker 3 (01:40:01):
I mean, let's let's be very frank with each other.
Speaker 4 (01:40:08):
Whatever the old expression is, the blushes off the rose pedal, Like,
we don't have to worry about hurting first rounders and
fans feelings about first rounders anymore. We saw that with
Rosen not working out in Arizona, they go right back
into the draft and they get Kyler Murray. No, Cardinals
fans are going, well, you never gave Rosen a fair shot.
Nobody cares if Anthony Richardson can't stay healthy and Joe
(01:40:32):
Flacco is the better option, If Gardner Minshew last year
is the better option, so be it. You want to
see wins, right, You want to see playoff berths right, Well,
with a.
Speaker 3 (01:40:43):
Quarterback who can't stay healthy, you're not going to see either.
Speaker 2 (01:40:45):
Yeah, and you have a Super Bowl winning quarterback that
can get it done. By the way, just for the record,
the Colts have four of the next five games on
the road, at the Jags at the Titans, not great
teams right now. You get the Dolphins at home, and
then you're at the Texans at the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (01:41:03):
That's a critical stretch for you.
Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
No buying that. That's five straight weeks on the road.
If you have a veteran quarterback leading your offense, maybe
the way to go. All right, let's find out what
is trending right now. Manci has been all over it.
She keeps on top of everything going on.
Speaker 10 (01:41:20):
And trying eight games.
Speaker 3 (01:41:22):
When you have ten games like we did the for
that's just too much.
Speaker 11 (01:41:24):
Yeah, No, when I have ten, When there's ten games,
it's kind of just like I'm along for the ride.
Speaker 3 (01:41:29):
And then seven almost.
Speaker 11 (01:41:30):
Seen like a little easy, a little too easy, too easy. Yeah, eight, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I agree.
Speaker 10 (01:41:38):
I don't know what I was thinking. No, I'm going
to tell you what I was thinking yesterday, Steve.
Speaker 11 (01:41:41):
When I said it was going to be under for
the Eagles Buccaneers game, which clearly it's already over on
the number that I said would be under the over under,
I just thought, oh, Jalen Hurts doesn't have any receivers,
probably not gonna do.
Speaker 10 (01:41:53):
A lot of scoring.
Speaker 11 (01:41:54):
I thought, oh, you know, Baker Mayfield probably won't do.
Speaker 10 (01:41:57):
A lot of scoring against the Eagles defense. No, no, no, no, no,
it's hold on.
Speaker 3 (01:42:01):
So I made a bold prediction.
Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
You did the saikwon Barkley would have less than fifty
yards on the game, and then he had a fifty
nine yard run.
Speaker 3 (01:42:09):
I know, one run. I know, blew that out.
Speaker 10 (01:42:11):
Yes, I said, but you were. You were close though,
like for the first.
Speaker 11 (01:42:14):
Half, dude, you have like ten yards and then all
of a sudden, No, no, my pick was worse than
your bold prediction.
Speaker 3 (01:42:21):
Well, you lose a point.
Speaker 10 (01:42:22):
I do lose a point.
Speaker 11 (01:42:23):
I know Buccaneers are beating the Eagles thirty to sixteen.
Speaker 10 (01:42:28):
Early in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 11 (01:42:30):
The Panthers trying to make a little comeback, as you
guys were talking about. But Cincinnati they're still on top.
It's thirty one twenty one. They're about to start the
fourth quarter. Joe Burrow nineteen of twenty seven two hundred
and six yards, two touchdowns.
Speaker 10 (01:42:42):
In this game, the Jaguars are on top of the Texans.
Speaker 11 (01:42:45):
I agree with you guys, it'll be a big win
if Jacksonville can pull this one off. They're up twenty
seventeen early in the fourth. Texans currently have the ball.
The Broncos and the Jets boring game, but Denver is
on top seven to six.
Speaker 10 (01:42:57):
Aaron Rodgers fourteen of.
Speaker 11 (01:42:59):
Twenty five one hundred sixty five yards on this one.
The Colts are on top of the Steelers with Joe
Flacco in at quarterback twenty four to ten.
Speaker 10 (01:43:06):
Early in the fourth.
Speaker 11 (01:43:07):
Viking Sam Darnold did throw an interception. Fellas he is
not perfect, he's close to it, but he did throw
an interception. Xavier McKinney of the Packers with his fourth
interception of the season that leads the NFL right now.
But the Vikings Arsenal on top of the Packers twenty
eight to seven ninety seconds to go in the third quarter,
the Bears of taking the lead over the Rams twenty
(01:43:29):
four to fifteen early in the fourth, and the Falcons.
I don't know where Jon Robinson is today. He's on
a milk cart and it's not helping my fantasy teams.
But the Falcons are beating the Saints twenty three to seventeen,
six minutes to go.
Speaker 10 (01:43:42):
In the game.
Speaker 11 (01:43:42):
For the games to happen soon in about an hour
or so, forty nine Ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, left
tackle Trent Williams. They are active against the Patriots and
his official Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert active.
Speaker 10 (01:43:55):
Joe Alt is not. So that is not I don't
know how I feel about it.
Speaker 8 (01:44:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:44:00):
I made it clear you feel about it.
Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
I mean, and look and I know that Justin Herbert
if he says to Jim Harball, I can I want to.
Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
Play, He's gonna play.
Speaker 10 (01:44:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:44:09):
But they have a bye week next week.
Speaker 16 (01:44:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:44:12):
And so your seven point dogs against the Chiefs defense without.
Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
Joe Auld if you if you go down early.
Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
In that game, all of a sudden, Herbert's got to
go back there and pass.
Speaker 10 (01:44:21):
He should play.
Speaker 3 (01:44:22):
He should, he should.
Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
If he's how fine enough to play, then you play him.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
Okay, I don't want anyone to ever get hurt.
Speaker 11 (01:44:27):
But if he does, but the Chiefs have barely won,
like they've barely won.
Speaker 10 (01:44:33):
The Chargers have a chance.
Speaker 11 (01:44:34):
Last thing here, guys, we are on Triple Crown batting title.
Watch right between shoo Toni and Louis are show Heo
Tani grounded out.
Speaker 10 (01:44:44):
In his first step bats.
Speaker 11 (01:44:45):
So his batting average is three ten is struck out
in his first step bat he's at three thirteen.
Speaker 4 (01:44:51):
Oh wow, so he's down at three thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:44:54):
But what what is that? What does that put he
would have to get it at least three more hits? Yes,
with that many played appearances.
Speaker 15 (01:45:05):
See.
Speaker 3 (01:45:05):
Oh, I'm not saying to give you anything.
Speaker 2 (01:45:10):
We know that. All right, Well, Manzie, thank you very much.
Once again, this is Red Zone Radio, by the way.
On that Jaguars Texans game. So the Jaguars had a
fourth and goal at the one yard line leading twenty
to seventeen.
Speaker 4 (01:45:23):
Disgusting playholl And they.
Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
Decided to sneak Trevor Lawrence, who got stoned for no gain,
and they turned the game. And what's unbelievable is Tank
Bigsby has seven carries for ninety yards. In this game,
ETN has forty four yards. Their running game has been
motoring against the Texans. And he called a sneak on
fourth and one.
Speaker 5 (01:45:44):
It was a lie when I said it was the
one of the worst QB draws I've seen in yeah
a minute.
Speaker 4 (01:45:49):
It wasn't even a sneak. It was a It was
a QB draw from the shotgun. Here's the problem with
this this play design. Why call a plan QB draw Like, okay,
so on fourth and one, here's my problem. Just give
him routes to throw to, like say to him in
his ear, like, hey, look, your best option is gonna
be to your right. We're gonna run a little rub
(01:46:11):
route if that's not open, or you know whatever. We're
gonna run a short, short route into the fly. We're
gonna run a corner behind it. If that's not open,
look to run. That's what you do. Don't call a
plan QB draw at the goal line. Give him some
passing options because it's essentially the same thing. Your receivers
run off the defenders. Anyways, when you have passing routes
(01:46:32):
open there and guess what, your offensive lineman, there's still
gonna be bodies on bodies.
Speaker 3 (01:46:37):
I don't really understand the play call.
Speaker 2 (01:46:39):
All right, Saints fourth and goal at the Atlanta seven
yard line. Falcons lead this game twenty three to seventeen
time out by Atlanta. If you're the Saints, four minutes
to go to kick the field goal or do you
go for it on fourth and goal at the seven
yard line with four minutes to go in the game?
Do you kick the field goal? Or do you go
for it? With what's with four minutes in the fourth quarter.
(01:47:01):
You're down by six, it's fourth and goal at the
seven yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:47:05):
You have to go for it. You have to go
for it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:07):
If you kick the.
Speaker 3 (01:47:08):
Field goal, you cut the lead to three.
Speaker 4 (01:47:11):
But you're there, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
Well, they just went for it and threw an incomplete pass.
There you have it, so you went for it. They
listened to you. Yeah, they went for it incomplete pass.
Falcons takeover on downs Oka eating twenty three to seventeen.
Speaker 4 (01:47:25):
Leading by that much, but also have a very long
field to face and if you get the ball back,
even if the Falcons punt you're looking at favorable field position.
So I don't know. I always think of it from
this standpoint, especially when you're deep in your own in
your opponent's territory, and you need points. Take the points
where they are because you don't know if you're gonna
have an next time there.
Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:47:46):
So the Steelers right now with a first and goal
at the Indy two yard line, and I am watching
right now, the Steelers trailing the Colts twenty four to ten.
Still plenty of time I'm left in this game. We
got more than twelve minutes to go, so we'll keep
it on an eye.
Speaker 6 (01:48:03):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
It's first and goal at the two yard line for
the Steelers, down by fourteen. The Rams got a field goal,
so they cut the Bears lead to twenty four to eighteen.
We're inside nine minutes ago right now, the Steelers looking
to score. Fields as scrambling throws to the end zone
and it is knocked away. Second and goal coming up
(01:48:24):
for the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:48:25):
Yeah, Justin Fields was able to avoid getting sacked at
the goal line there on that first and goal play
from the Colts four yard line and narrowly avoided it,
by the way, and fit the ball into a tight
window looking for George Pickens in the back of the
end zone. It was in and out of his hands.
This wasn't well defended. George Pickens just flat out dropped
(01:48:49):
a touchdown pass.
Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
The Packers are stuck on seven points, guys at home,
and remember their only score came after a muff punt
near the goal line, so they had a short touchdown there.
Jordan Love is nineteen of thirty eight for one hundred
and eighty seven yards and two picks.
Speaker 4 (01:49:09):
And we have a Steelers touchdown and it's Justin Fields again,
winning with his feet at the goal line. And this
is kind of what we're talking about with the planned
QB draw to Lawrence earlier in the Jaguars Texans game.
Why bother doing that? Set it up so it's a
(01:49:30):
passing play and if there's an ability for your quarterback
to stress the defense with his legs, let him take
it and run it. That's exactly what the Steelers do.
They benefit from it. That's Justin Fields now, second rushing
touchdown on the day.
Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
Jordan Love's struggling right now, Rich, He's struggling, Yeah, he
absolutely is.
Speaker 3 (01:49:50):
This is a bad game for Jordan lest Well and
again he had a great finish.
Speaker 2 (01:49:55):
Remember really, if you look at Jordan love season last year,
he was decent in the first half and then red.
Speaker 3 (01:50:00):
Hot the rest of the way.
Speaker 2 (01:50:01):
Yeah, I mean he was on fire the second half
of the season, obviously on fire in that playoff win
against Dallas, and they're rewarded him with a huge contract. Sure,
it's amazing how expectations can affect the mindset of certain players.
Sometimes you're trying to do too much. You know, you're
trying to suddenly justify the fact that you've got this
(01:50:22):
huge contract, and maybe you're trying to force things or
make plays that aren't there instead of playing within the system.
This is where coaching comes in, where you got to
sort of take a step back, you know, I know,
after a game like this that appears that the Packers
will not win at home against the Vikings, where you
sit down, if you're Matt Lafleur and said, all right, Jordan,
let's let's let's just let's take a breath here. Okay,
(01:50:44):
we have made a commitment to you. You are our
starting quarterback, but understand we set up the offense to succeed,
and you're trying to do a few things, maybe a
little too much, right, stay within your lane. That's all
we did last year and how well it works. So
it's gonna be interesting to see how the Packers.
Speaker 4 (01:51:03):
Game hang on. One second, Like when we're really reviewing
what's going on with Jordan Love against this Minnesota Vikings defense.
I'd like to remind you that the Minnesota Vikings defense
have been playing unbelievable football against all the quarterbacks they
faced so far this season. Daniel Jones was sacked six
times in his matchup against the Vikings. In Game one,
(01:51:25):
he threw two picks. Brock Perdy threw a pick. He
was sacked five or six times in that game. CJ.
Stroud sacked four times against this Viking defense was Flumming's
the entire way. It doesn't matter how many times you're
sacked necessarily, it's also how many times you're hurried. It's
also how many times the defense gets to you. Brian
(01:51:45):
Flores his defense with Minnesota has been so confounding for
quarterbacks early this season that every single quarterback they've faced
so far this year has really struggled against them for
good reason. I mean, so far, the Giants were held
to six points the rock Purdy led San Francisco forty
nine ers with better health at the time, we're held
to seventeen points. And last week against the Houston Texans,
(01:52:08):
the Texans were held to seven points in a thirty
four to seven victory. For the Green Bay or for
the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
Well, you see, I try to wake up people, and
immediately I look up and the Packers have a second
one at the Minnesota six yeard line.
Speaker 4 (01:52:21):
But this outcome isn't shocking me because the Vikings defense
is so under heralded. They've been they've been playing crazy
good football on that side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:52:30):
So what we're saying right now, based on today's performance
and Jordan Love is under duress and he throws it
up for grabs, throw it out of the end zone,
that the Minnesota Vikings right now are the best team
in the NFL through the first four weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:52:45):
They are real. This is a real team. I'm telling you,
the Minnesota Vikings are potentially a Super Bowl contender. This
is how real this has gotten and how fast it's gotten.
Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
This real.
Speaker 4 (01:52:57):
Sam Darnold, they got to keep him healthy because he's
been on fire. But this defense, this defense has been
elite so far through the early portion of this game
or through the early portion of this season.
Speaker 2 (01:53:07):
Greg the leg Zer line just kicked another field goal
for the Jets. That's all they've done is field goals today.
But it's good enough to take a nine to seven
lead against the Broncos inside fourteen minutes to go in
the fourth quarter. All right, we're heading down the stretch now,
which games will go to the very end. You'll find
out if you keep it here. This is Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 4 (01:53:27):
Second of goal from the two fields, play.
Speaker 13 (01:53:30):
Action pass rolling out to his left fields Tad's rum fields.
Speaker 6 (01:53:33):
Tom hems it at the end zone, lowers the shoulder,
crashing through Jones and gets in.
Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
For the score. That's one O two point five WDVE
Steelers Radio Network. Steelers get back in this game, trail
the coast twenty four to seven. However, the Colts a
fourth down at the Pittsburgh sixteen yard line. Pittsburgh has
called the timeout. Expect the Colts to go for the
field goal to extend the lead. To attend. All right,
(01:53:58):
once again, this is Zone Radio and we are live
from the ti iraq dot Com studios. The field goal
is good, so the Colts lead the Steelers twenty seven
to seventeen six minutes ago in the fourth quarter. There Meanwhile,
we have a comeback brewing in Green Bay. As soon
as I downplay Jordan Love, all of a sudden, he
(01:54:19):
gets hot. This is out works, folks, if you haven't
followed this over the years. So the Packers down twenty
eight to fourteen, but they got a second and three
at the Minnesota thirteen yard line. So all of a sudden,
what seemed to be a walkover and touchdown pass Jordan
Loved the craft thirteen yards and they're an extra point
(01:54:39):
away from making this a one score game.
Speaker 3 (01:54:42):
It's already a one score game.
Speaker 4 (01:54:43):
It's already a one score game. Jordan Love, Look, he's
weathered to storm. He's thrown the football a ton in
this game so far, forty six pass attempts, he's been
hit ten times, so nearly twenty five percent of his dropbacks.
He's under fire now, and that's that's discluding hurries. You
know how many times has he been flushed out? So
(01:55:04):
this Minnesota Vikings defense is getting to Love and they've
been playing catch up the entire game because the Sam
Darnold led Vikings offense.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
They're going to go out for two here, Rick an
early start. Yeah, why are you doing this?
Speaker 4 (01:55:18):
Jeez, I'm not one hundred percent sure. I guess they're hoping.
Speaker 3 (01:55:21):
Ten minutes to go on the fourth way.
Speaker 5 (01:55:23):
Either way, with this, you're going to need probably a
two pint point conversion somewhere.
Speaker 3 (01:55:28):
But you're at home.
Speaker 2 (01:55:29):
I can understand if they were on the road maybe
trying to go for the win avoid overtime, but you're
at home, all right, So two point conversion to tempt
for the Packers. Love is going to try to throw
it into the end zone, and he throws and it's good,
and that's why they did it. Twenty eight to twenty two.
Now Minnesota's lead has been cut to six. Remember this
was a twenty eight to nothing game. I mean, this
(01:55:53):
is all repeat of the Georgia Alabama game.
Speaker 3 (01:55:55):
I don't love the call.
Speaker 4 (01:55:57):
I don't love the idea of going for it, but
I love the Jordan Love was able to complete the
pass to his tight end for a score.
Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
All right. The Saints right now have gotten the ball
first and goal at the Atlanta one yard line. As
the Saints got the ball back, as you said, Rich,
after failing on a fourth down play, they get the
ball back and they have now got a first and
goal at the Atlanta one yard line. Falcons lead this
game twenty three to seventeen. We are inside two minutes
(01:56:25):
to go in this game and Derek Carr trying to
engineer a comeback.
Speaker 3 (01:56:29):
On the road.
Speaker 4 (01:56:30):
Yeah, Chris o'lavi eight receptions for eighty seven yards in
this game, including that pass from Derek Carr, just a
quick slant over the middle. He rolls to the one
yard line and it's a first and goal for the Saints.
The Falcons had to burn a time out there to
sort of collect themselves after the Saints got within striking distance.
And now Derek Carr, he's under center at the goal
(01:56:52):
line with a full back and he tries to dive
over the pile close and he's straight up stuffed.
Speaker 2 (01:56:58):
What are they doing? Meanwhile, the Broncos regained the lead
on the road against the Jets with a field goal
ten to nine. Broncos lead, and they have the ball
with inside nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter
of that game. Bears and Rams two minute warning. Bears
with the ball in Rams territory and they have the
(01:57:19):
lead twenty four to eighteen. Steelers again have the ball
back after that Colts field goal. We're inside six minutes
to go. Steelers face in a third and two right
now from their own thirty eight yard line, trailing by ten.
The Bengals are not in yet. The Panthers have scored
ten unanswered, and all of a sudden, the Panthers are
(01:57:42):
within one score of the Bengals. Bengals do have the
ball right now, seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:57:48):
Love this, I love this. What the Derek Carr led
New Orleans Saints are doing right now is beautiful.
Speaker 3 (01:57:55):
Look at this.
Speaker 4 (01:57:56):
Okay, so he sets his in motion and then he
goes ahead and see he's scrambling for those yards on
the QB sneak and he gets down and now what
they're doing.
Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
He's turning his back. I mean, they're just running the
clock down. What are they trailing by, Well, they're trailing
by six, right, So if they score on this, do
they take the lead? If they hit the extra point,
they do and then the other team gets the ball
back and a field goal wins again.
Speaker 4 (01:58:21):
So what are they doing?
Speaker 3 (01:58:22):
Well, they're running clock exactly. This is called rolex.
Speaker 4 (01:58:25):
We used to do this in New England, if you
had an opportunity at the end of the game, even
if you were trailing to milk the clock, you do this.
Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
Okay, So they just literally ran the clock all the
way down, call to time out. So we now have
one minute and three seconds remaining, third and goal from
the one yard line. Again, Saints down by six, and
you need to score either way. You can't settle for
a field goal here, So why would you give the
Falcons the ball back with all that time? Okay, you
take your time at the goal line, you wind the
(01:58:54):
clock all the way down, So now they're at one
minute left on the clock. Falcons have already burned all
their time out. Okay, well let me ask you this. Now,
third and goal, third and gold, right at the one
yard line. Are we going to see Derek Carr turn
his back to the line of scrimmage and just fall
down on third down?
Speaker 3 (01:59:09):
Or is this now where you say I have to
score you now you attempt your best touchdown play.
Speaker 4 (01:59:15):
Yes, So now if you hand the ball back, it's
gonna be with fifty five seconds to the Falcons, as
opposed to two minutes with two timeouts like it would
have been if you scored right after the Lovvy.
Speaker 2 (01:59:25):
So here we go this third and goal from the
one yard line for the Saints. Right now, down by six.
They hand the ball off and that is touchdown Saints
and right there. So now the Falcons get the football
Baltlin Kamara in the ends, trailing by one point.
Speaker 4 (01:59:41):
If the pat is good or at very least tied,
and they have zero timeouts, beautiful execution.
Speaker 2 (01:59:47):
Go for two?
Speaker 3 (01:59:48):
There do you go for two? If you have the
Saints out of your mind? We got much more coming out.
This is Red Zone Radio, friar.
Speaker 5 (01:59:55):
Mouth Rice set now for fields left close caught inside
the It is prior new cutsdown.
Speaker 3 (02:00:02):
You gotta know it. In that situation, he's gonna get it.
Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
I'm not sure whose call that was. It didn't sound
like excited Steeler fans. I'm gonna say that was Colts
Radio network. Steelers have cut the lead to twenty seven.
That was Pittsburgh's call. That's hard to be lead, no way,
all right, so anyway, cold sleeve the Steelers twenty four,
twenty seven to twenty four. Steelers have the ball a
little more than two minutes ago in the fourth quarter.
(02:00:27):
All righty, Red Zone Radio We're broadcasting live from the
tire rack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (02:00:32):
Ty rack dot com.
Speaker 2 (02:00:32):
We're gonna up get you there and on matched selection
fast re shipping free road as a protection over ten
thousand recommended installers tire rack dot com the way tire
bind should be all right. We got a lot of
exciting finishes coming up. The Falcons right now are lining
up for a field goal to win this game against
the Saints. A big pass interference call set it up.
It is a fifty eight yard field goal attempt with
(02:00:57):
seven seconds to go, is up, it's straight and.
Speaker 3 (02:01:02):
It is good.
Speaker 4 (02:01:04):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:01:05):
With two seconds remaining, Young way Ku knocks it through
from nearly sixty yards out and the Atlanta Falcons win
on a last second kick.
Speaker 3 (02:01:17):
It's not over two seconds. Well that's true, yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:01:19):
I mean anything can happen, especially guys, especially with the
new kick return. I mean it for laterals, buddy, guys.
Speaker 3 (02:01:25):
It is dynamic alright.
Speaker 2 (02:01:27):
So again Falcons take the lead twenty six to twenty
four to two seconds remaining there. Meanwhile, the Vikings got
a field goal to make it a two score game.
Speaker 4 (02:01:37):
Jordan Love threw a pick. Yeah, you just do a
horrible interception all right.
Speaker 2 (02:01:40):
Well, that pretty much does it, because well the Packers
already down two scores and Jordan Love deep pass is
is so?
Speaker 4 (02:01:48):
Was that a pet was intercepted?
Speaker 3 (02:01:50):
Yeah, intercepting.
Speaker 8 (02:01:51):
He got pressure off the edge from Harrison Smith and
he just threw it up all right.
Speaker 4 (02:01:54):
Again, this is the point I'm trying to make about
this Vikings defense. They are forcing quarterbacks into making horrible decisions.
They're getting sacks at a rate that we haven't seen
since what the two thousand Ravens defense. And they just
forced on another hurried throw Jordan Love to throw it
early and inside of a receiver who had leverage on
(02:02:18):
the defense. I mean, if he places that ball to
the outside in the end zone, Wis may come up
with it instead. Murphy Junior comes down with the football.
Vikings football.
Speaker 3 (02:02:28):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:02:29):
We have the Texans right now inside two minutes ago,
trailing the Jaguars by three, and they have a first
and ten at the Jacksonville's fifteen yard line three hundred
and thirty eight yards passing for CJ. Stroud in this game.
So the Texans trying to get in a position to
either tie or take the lead late in this game. Meanwhile,
(02:02:50):
the Bengals with a seven point lead on the Royal
against the Panthers. They have the ball right now in
Carolina Territory. This is it coming up for Aaron Rodgers
and the Jets. They get the ball back two minute warning.
Jets trail the Broncos ten to nine and they have
a first and ten at their own forty five yard line.
So great field position for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets
(02:03:14):
to eke out a win at home against the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (02:03:17):
But they still have to get it done and.
Speaker 4 (02:03:20):
We have a final in Atlanta. After the Alvin Kamara
plunge making it a score in the favor of the Saints,
the Falcons come back. They hit the field goal, and
after the ensuing kickoff where there were a couple of
backlaterals thrown, it is now official. Falcons beat the Saints,
(02:03:41):
and so Falcons off to a pretty good start after
having some early struggles, I mean, getting to two and
two on the season. After what we saw in their
first outing against the Steelers, I mean it looked pretty
bad for a second there for Kirk Cousins and his
new crew.
Speaker 2 (02:03:57):
All Right, big play that set that whole thing up
was a pass interference call against the Saints. And I
am never been a proponent of the pass interference being
you know, forty yard penalties, thirty yard penalties. I just
don't like that well and never have, never will.
Speaker 3 (02:04:14):
Here's the problem now.
Speaker 4 (02:04:15):
Now you have a situation in the NFL where you
have field goal kickers who are routinely hitting from beyond
fifty five yards over ninety percent this year. How many
of them have we seen? Also, it's obscene how many
we've witnessed.
Speaker 2 (02:04:28):
Okay hitting over ninety percent of their fifty yard plus
field goal attone.
Speaker 4 (02:04:32):
This is a perfect example of how this is having
a terrible effect on the game because, I mean, the
Falcons legitimately did not earn that win. They didn't earn
that win. I mean, the Saints gave the game away
because they committed a foul. But when we're talking about
a subjective foul late in the game, you're gonna call
in a Saints defender. It's it's rough. It's a terrible
(02:04:54):
way for games to be called and finished.
Speaker 3 (02:04:56):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:04:56):
The Steelers, trailing Indianapolis twenty seven twenty four, were inside
a minute ago. They are facing a fourth and ten
right now from their own forty one yard line, so
they are at least twenty five yards away from field
goal range. Well I should say twenty yards the way
kickers are these days. But still fourth and ten from
(02:05:17):
their own forty one yard line fields looking to throw
the ball, scrambling trying to get a playoff, and it.
Speaker 4 (02:05:24):
Is incompletely intercepted and that is it.
Speaker 2 (02:05:28):
Wow, will take over on downs with the minute to go,
they can run out the clock. So it looks like
the Colts will survive and get their second one of
the season, handing the Steelers their first loss of the year.
Speaker 4 (02:05:41):
After the Jordan Love interception that gave the Vikings an
opportunity to run some clock, they barely took any time
off of the clock at all. Three and out they
pun away to the Green Bay Packers. And now the
Packers have another opportunity inside a Vikings territory or actually
on their own side of the field right now from
about thirty five yard line and looking to get the win.
(02:06:04):
Here hold on with four minutes thirty seconds remaining.
Speaker 2 (02:06:07):
So I told you the Jets take over their own
forty five yard line first down. How about fourth and
ten from their own forty five yard line? Game on
the line for the Jets right now, trailing the Broncos
ten to nine. We're at inside two minutes to go,
and Aaron Rodgers cannot get any offense going for the Jets.
Can't he work his magic. He gets blasted for a
(02:06:28):
sack on fourth down. The Broncos will take over edge,
and it looks like the Broncos will win this game
on the road against the Jets.
Speaker 4 (02:06:36):
Wow, yeah that was that was just turned it over
again too. That was a free hitter off the edge
for the Denver Broncos. So Jets will fall by one
point ten to nine. Ballgame there in New York. And yeah,
the Minnesota Vikings did they pick off Love again?
Speaker 8 (02:06:52):
Is a Tucker craft? I believe, trying to pick up
extra yardage?
Speaker 3 (02:06:55):
Funk GUYE.
Speaker 2 (02:06:56):
Texans right now, first and goal at the two yard
line at Jacksonville. We got thirty seconds left in this game,
Texans trailing the Jaguars twenty to seventeen. So let's keep
an eye on this game now, a second goal at
Jackonville's one yard line, twenty two seconds left, no timeouts
remaining for either team.
Speaker 5 (02:07:13):
Two minute warning. In Carolina, I believe it is third
and sixteen for the Bengals Carolina trying to get the
ball back.
Speaker 2 (02:07:21):
All right, So the one game really on the line
right now is this game between the Jags and the Texans.
Jaguars trying to get their first win of the season,
zero to four. It will be lights out for the
Jaguars this season in terms of a postseason. Texans trying
to improve to three and one. So here we go,
second and goal at Jackonville one yard line and again,
no timeouts remaining here for either one of these teams.
Speaker 4 (02:07:43):
Rich, Yeah, no timeouts left. You have a situation where
you can tie the football game, worst case scenario if
you're Houston, but you don't want that to be the result.
With twenty two seconds left on the clock, you can't
get cute here. You have to throw the football and
they do for touchdown. Touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:08:01):
Texans on a little roll out there and they are
in the end zone.
Speaker 4 (02:08:07):
And it's a dare Ogunbowale who gets to score off
of just a naked bootleg pass from CJ. Stroud, And
that was beautifully executed by the Texans.
Speaker 3 (02:08:20):
He's had a pretty big day by the way.
Speaker 4 (02:08:22):
Four rushes, or I should say that was a good
drive by the Jacksonville Jaguars about nine plays to march
the field and sealed with this CJ.
Speaker 3 (02:08:32):
Stroud pass to a Goomble. So now point after touchdown.
Speaker 4 (02:08:36):
Good. They turned this into a four point lead at
the end of the game and Jacksonville has no time left.
Speaker 2 (02:08:44):
Yes, and with this loss most likely loss, the Jaguars
are zero to four?
Speaker 3 (02:08:51):
Is Doug Peterson cooked?
Speaker 7 (02:08:54):
Well?
Speaker 4 (02:08:54):
I mean, all of a sudden you have to start
looking at the tail of the tape. How much has
he gotten out of Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (02:09:00):
After last season's late season collapsed.
Speaker 4 (02:09:02):
By the way, they just paid him a tremendous amount
of money. The owner, shod Con said he believes this
is the best roster that he's fielded in Jacksonville Jaguars history.
So you're you're talking about huge expectations for this football
season and you're getting out to a winless start through
(02:09:22):
your first four weeks.
Speaker 3 (02:09:23):
That's brutal.
Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
Buccaneers beat the Eagles convincingly today thirty three to sixteen.
Baker Mayfield ended up thirty to forty seven three and
forty seven yards, two touchdowns and no picks in this game.
Jalen Hurts eighteen to thirty but just one hundred and
fifty eight yards. You know we are talking off air.
I mean it's for four weeks into the season. I mean,
(02:09:47):
how hot is the hot seat for some of these
coaches early on in the year.
Speaker 4 (02:09:51):
Extremely hot? Extremely hot. I mean, if you think Mike McCarthy,
Nick Sirianni, I mean, Doug Peterson. I'm not sure I'm
going to include him in the conversation, but especially those
two NFC East coaches aren't on the hot seat. I mean,
you don't understand how temperamental these owners can be sometimes.
(02:10:11):
Jerry Jones, he's never fired a coach in the midst
of a season, and I understand that, but it doesn't
mean he won't. And if things really start going sideways
for the Cowboys, it's possible.
Speaker 3 (02:10:24):
The Eagles, it's possible.
Speaker 4 (02:10:27):
I mean, there's no doubt in my mind that it
could happen, and maybe sooner rather than later.
Speaker 2 (02:10:32):
If the Cowboys decided to make a change and Belichick
gets the call, I'm sure Belichick would call his old
buddy Bill Parcells and say, so, what does it like
to work for Jerry Joe.
Speaker 4 (02:10:42):
They've already had that conversation, I promise you, and he
knows exactly what it would be like working for Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (02:10:47):
Here's the stipulation.
Speaker 4 (02:10:48):
I would imagine Bill Belichick would walk into a situation
like Dallas with, Hey, you're gonna have to be a
lot more hands off when it comes to the football
if you want to have a role in personnel. There's
no question it's going to be collaborative though, and in
terms of the football stuff, you got to leave the
coaching to the coach and that's all there is to it. Otherwise,
I don't think Bill is going to be able to
(02:11:11):
swallow his pride and coach for Jerry Jones if he's
going to try to get involved on what happens on Sundays,
Mondays or Thursdays.
Speaker 2 (02:11:18):
All Right, the Jets Broncos game, suddling guys is not over.
Broncos just missed a field goal and the Jets now have.
Speaker 3 (02:11:26):
The ball back. Kidding me, they're at.
Speaker 2 (02:11:28):
Their own thirty two yard line and there's still a
minute and a half to go in this game. You've
got to be killed so now, and they're on the
forty yard line, so another opportunity for the Jets, and
old swing pass has gotten the ball to midfield. So
just like that, the Jets trying to get into field
goal position. How did the Broncos screw this thing up?
Speaker 4 (02:11:48):
So the Jets are out of timeouts right now and
the clock is winding on that swing pass, So second
and one opportunity for Aaron Rodgers in this offense.
Speaker 3 (02:11:55):
They take a shot down field that's incomplete and that's.
Speaker 2 (02:12:00):
Yeah, that's gonna be interference, and that puts them in
field goal position. You got Greg the leg man, he's
got a booming leg. He can definitely get it from there.
So the Jets are suddenly there is in field goal
position question.
Speaker 4 (02:12:13):
You cannot face cover in the interference all. I mean,
that's interference all the way. And so all of a sudden,
Jets left for dead. They draw the defensive passing from
interference and they're in field goal range.
Speaker 2 (02:12:28):
That that's just about a blatant call because you're ever
gonna see.
Speaker 8 (02:12:33):
Stop me if you've heard this one before. But I
think Justin Jefferson is the early candidate for Catch of
the Year. He's in this Vikings Packers game that well,
I don't know if they'll show it again. It was
it was looked at the Vikings challenged it, but the
toe taps stretch out of bounds. The one ridiculous catch
from him right one hand way.
Speaker 2 (02:12:52):
Focus on the Jets right now, guys, as the Jets
are trying to pull out a game incomplete pass of
the sideline.
Speaker 4 (02:12:57):
Since we have a minute.
Speaker 5 (02:12:58):
Evan McPherson did make the field goal in the Bengals
game thirty four to twenty four, So it looks like
that Bengals are on their way to get pick up.
Speaker 4 (02:13:06):
Their first win of the season.
Speaker 2 (02:13:07):
Yeah, the team I picked to win their division, so
I'm happy about that. Of Course, I also picked Jacksonville
to win their division. That's not going to happen, all right.
So now we have a second ten for the Jets.
They are trailing the Broncos by a score of ten
to nine, and they're at the thirty six yard line
of the Broncos.
Speaker 4 (02:13:28):
See them attempt to throw out towards the sideline to
get a closer look. Vance Joseph, defensive coordinator for the
Denver Broncos coaching everybody, Hey, we need to tackle them
in bounds, which they successfully do so on a third down.
Speaker 2 (02:13:42):
Here only and guess what Denver call a time out? Okay,
instead of letting the clock run down. They're thinking, is
this okay, let's assume they get the field goal.
Speaker 3 (02:13:52):
We want to have some time left on the clock.
Speaker 4 (02:13:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:13:54):
Yeah, and that's my assumption.
Speaker 4 (02:13:56):
Yeow.
Speaker 2 (02:13:56):
So they now have stopped the clock again. The ball
is at third and six now at the thirty two
yard line, So we are looking at a forty nine
yard field goal attempt, which Zerline is certainly capable of.
Speaker 3 (02:14:09):
He's had three field goals already in this game.
Speaker 2 (02:14:11):
As far as Aaron Rodgers is a concern, not exactly
a vintage Aaron Rodgers game. He won't care if they
get the w I guarantee you that twenty four of
forty two hundred and twenty five yards, no touchdowns, and
no interceptions. Meanwhile, Bo nicks twelve of twenty five for
sixty yards, one touchdown, but no picks in this game.
Speaker 4 (02:14:34):
Also, taking the time out here for Denver baits the
Jets into running one more play, which they are Aaron
Rodgers in the shotgun, facing a third and six, only
fifty second left on the clock, and he throws it away.
He throws it away.
Speaker 2 (02:14:48):
Yeah, so we have a Some of the Broncos are
saying wait a second, where is uh?
Speaker 3 (02:14:57):
I don't know what they're screaming about.
Speaker 2 (02:14:58):
Well, incomplete pass, so down, we're gonna get Zurline onto
the field right now with a chance for the Jets
to take the lead. But again with the incomplete pass,
the clock stops fifty one seconds remaining, so obviously, even
if Zerline makes the field goal, there will be some
time for the Jets, although they do not have any timeout.
Speaker 4 (02:15:19):
It's unbelievable, right, So back to back games the fry
I'm sorry for Denver.
Speaker 3 (02:15:23):
Denver does have one time out.
Speaker 4 (02:15:25):
The Falcons finish against the Saints, and now this Jets finish.
Speaker 3 (02:15:28):
Here's zer Line from fifty yards and.
Speaker 4 (02:15:31):
It is no goodand it he yanked.
Speaker 2 (02:15:33):
Absolutely shoved it the wrong way, and that is it.
Speaker 3 (02:15:37):
So there it is.
Speaker 4 (02:15:38):
The Denver Broncos will kneel on the football and that'll
be a ten nine victory on the road for the Broncos.
Aaron Rodgers did not look thrilled with that result. On
the kick, and by the way, it's raining in New York.
This is a difficult kick from distance and it looks
sliced it. Yeah, jeez, I mean, that's just.
Speaker 3 (02:15:58):
Can we see a lot of hooks. This was a
pure slice.
Speaker 4 (02:16:01):
Yeah, yeah, gosh, that is tough, man.
Speaker 2 (02:16:05):
That is a huge win for the Broncos to get
to two and two and a bad loss of the
Jets as they fall to two and two. I meanwhile,
the only game is still going on from the early games,
Vikings in control up nine with the ball three minutes left.
They're down to the Green Bay four yard line. So
the Vikings will win that game to go to four
and Oh. All right, so games that are just under
(02:16:25):
way right now, and the Cardinals have already taken a
seven at the lead.
Speaker 3 (02:16:28):
We should take a break, all right. I'll date everybody
on the other side. We'll do that.
Speaker 2 (02:16:32):
Pats and forty nine ers also under the way. This
is red zone radio, Sir line.
Speaker 16 (02:16:37):
From fifty to give the Jets to lead, fifty one
seconds to go out of the hold of more sticks.
The snap, the placement down, the kick is on the way,
It's got plenty of distance.
Speaker 3 (02:16:45):
Hen it has no good.
Speaker 4 (02:16:48):
It floated right.
Speaker 16 (02:16:50):
Heartbreak for the Jets, that, Sir line, hod it curve
off to the right and he can't hit from fifty.
Hen it looks like the Bronco We'll hold on and
win this game by a point.
Speaker 2 (02:17:03):
That's Q one oh four point three Jets Radio Network,
and he's absolutely right. The Denver Broncos come away with
a huge win on the road and met Life beating
the Jets by a score of ten to nine.
Speaker 3 (02:17:16):
All right, this is Red Zone Radio. We are live.
Speaker 2 (02:17:18):
From the tire rack dot Com studio. Steve Hartman and
Rich Ornberger with you. So all the early games are
in except for the Vikings Packers. And guess what. The
Packers just scored on a Jordan Love seventeen yard touchdown
pass to Wis and they get the extra point and
the Vikings have a thirty one to twenty nine lead,
(02:17:41):
fifty six seconds left. Now again, Packers have no timeouts.
They just drove by the way ninety six yards down
the field to get a touchdown. I don't know how
the Vikings can blow this game, but what we see
by the way Jordan Love after I was critical of
his numbers thirty two to fifty four, three and eighty
(02:18:02):
yards and four touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (02:18:04):
So yeah, he woke up two.
Speaker 4 (02:18:06):
Lass Is to read for twenty one yards, then forty
two yards, made quick work of the Vikings defensive league.
Speaker 2 (02:18:14):
Well, Vikings apparently in that dreaded you know, prevent defense
with a two score lead, But now it's a two
point lead.
Speaker 3 (02:18:24):
The new kickoff rule.
Speaker 2 (02:18:27):
Makes it near impossible, right as far as the on
side kicker's concerned.
Speaker 4 (02:18:31):
Yeah, you you must declare that you're gonna onside. You
have to be trailing, and they can only occur in
the fourth quarter. Now that's the twenty twenty four on
side kick criteria, which defangs the whole point of the
on side kick. It used to be.
Speaker 2 (02:18:49):
Well, the mechanics are still the same. You still have
to kick the ball ten yards. Yeah, but it used
to be a surprise. It used to be something that
teams could find ways to disguise. I think, look, the
sterilization of football.
Speaker 4 (02:19:04):
It's bothering me, especially on the special teams plays, because
special teams is where those unique moments happened that nobody's expecting.
And I think it's anti football. I just do so. Well, whatever,
we're going to see the Green Bay Packers attempt this,
I would assume, although there's a timeout on the field,
so yeah, it's either an official timeout or the Minnesota
(02:19:27):
Vikings wanted to burn one of their remaining two timeouts.
Speaker 2 (02:19:30):
Yeah, it is the Vikings timeout. So again thirty one
to twenty nine. Vikings at one point led this game
twenty eight nothing, twenty eight nothing.
Speaker 3 (02:19:40):
And this was very similar.
Speaker 2 (02:19:43):
To what we saw yesterday, right with the Georgia Alabama game,
which was twenty eight nothing. Absolutely so, here are the
Packers right now down by two. They will attempt an
on sidekick. There is fifty six seconds remaining in the
fourth quarter of this game. Sam Darnel did most of
his damage early in this game, twenty to twenty eight
(02:20:03):
right now, two hundred and seventy five yards, three touchdowns
on a pick. I feel like he's been stuck on
those stats for the entire second half.
Speaker 4 (02:20:10):
Well, they committed to running the football and running the clock,
and they did. They weren't very successful in the second half.
Credit where credits to Green Bay Packers defensively slowed down
the scoring and they were able to.
Speaker 2 (02:20:21):
Go on the drop kick a drop kick, oh and
they recovered, so instead of teeing it up, they did
a drop kick on side kick, yeah, which is legal.
Speaker 4 (02:20:32):
Obviously. Josh Oliver, the tight end for the Minnesota Vikings,
comes up with it, and that is going to be
the ball game.
Speaker 2 (02:20:39):
That was interesting with the drop kick because it does
give you and it was slightly fumbled, but indeed Minnesota
recover the ball. Green Bay has no timeout, so that
is going to do it. The Vikings will escape and
go to four and zero on the season, and the
Packers will fall to two and two. All right, let's
(02:20:59):
find now what is trending right now as we got
final scores from all the early games right now Montcie
and we got games underway.
Speaker 10 (02:21:08):
I know, a little busy.
Speaker 11 (02:21:09):
We got baseball to keep an eye on, not even
just for the triple crown on the batting title, but
the wild card situation in the National League.
Speaker 10 (02:21:16):
It's it's a lot going on. So let's start with
the game still happening.
Speaker 11 (02:21:19):
Yeah, I think the Vikings are going to pull this
one off. They're up on the Packers thirty one twenty nine,
less than a minute to go in this one, and Minnesota.
Speaker 10 (02:21:25):
Has the ball.
Speaker 11 (02:21:26):
The Commanders and Cardinals started things off early, both already scoring.
First was Kyler Murray connecting with Marvin Harrison Junior for
the Cardinals. Then it was Brian Robinson Junior with a
rushing touchdown for the Commander So that's a tie. Game
in Arizona seven to seven, about three minutes to go
in the first quarter. The forty nine ers on the
scoreboard first with a field goal. They're beating the Patriots
three zero. Late in the first Browns and Raiders, Chiefs
(02:21:49):
and Chargers.
Speaker 10 (02:21:50):
They are scoreless early in the first quarter. The games
that have wrapped up.
Speaker 11 (02:21:53):
The Falcons walked it off with the fifty eight yard
field goal. They defeat the Saints twenty six to twenty four.
The Bears took down the Rams twenty four to eighteen,
while the colt held on to beat the Steelers twenty
seven to twenty four. So the Steelers no longer undefeated
justin fields though twenty two of thirty four three hundred
and twelve yards, one touchdown and two rushing touchdowns in
the loss.
Speaker 10 (02:22:14):
The Broncos edged the Jets ten nine. New York had
a chance to win it they missed the field goal.
Speaker 11 (02:22:18):
Denver's defense did not let Aaron Rodgers throw any touchdowns.
He was twenty four of forty two for two hundred
and twenty five yards, and he was sacked five times.
It looked like he was hurting there at the end.
Bo Nicks for Denver didn't have to do much. Twelve
of twenty five sixty.
Speaker 10 (02:22:34):
Yards and that one touchdown and they win it. The
Buccaneers came out high and they beat the Phillies. I
wrote the Phillies. Why did I write the Phillies?
Speaker 11 (02:22:41):
The Buccaneers came out on end they beat the Eagles
thirty three to sixteen.
Speaker 10 (02:22:46):
I really did write Phillies. Who Baker Mayfield thirty.
Speaker 11 (02:22:48):
Of forty seven three hundred and forty seven yards, two
touchdowns and one rushing touchdown and the win. The Bengals
no longer scoreless. They outscored the Panthers thirty four to
twenty four. Joe Burrows twenty two of thirty one, two
hundred and thirty two yards, two touchdowns, one interception. The
Texans a twenty four to twenty one over the Jaguars,
who are still winless in this season.
Speaker 10 (02:23:10):
They are zero to four.
Speaker 11 (02:23:12):
Nico Collins though for the Texans twelve catches, one hundred
and fifty one yards and one touchdown.
Speaker 10 (02:23:17):
Now let's check in on the baseball situation.
Speaker 11 (02:23:19):
So obviously we're keeping an eye on the Mets, the Diamondbacks,
and the Braves. There's eight different scenarios that could happen.
Speaker 10 (02:23:27):
I'm not gonna describe them to you because.
Speaker 3 (02:23:29):
They're very confusing.
Speaker 2 (02:23:31):
We have the doubleheader because of Hurricane Hereen tomorrow in Atlanta, but.
Speaker 11 (02:23:36):
There's situations that may not happen where only might one happen.
Speaker 10 (02:23:40):
So it's just so much going on.
Speaker 11 (02:23:41):
But the Mets are beating the Brewers four zero, top
of the fourth inning, the Padres are losing to the
Diamondbacks in Arizona, so Diamondbacks on top six to one
bottom of the fifth, and the Braves are losing to
the Royals four to two top of the foight.
Speaker 2 (02:23:59):
All three of those scenarios play out, there will be
a doubleheader.
Speaker 11 (02:24:02):
To work, yes, and like the Braves have the easiest
route to get in, then it's the Mets. The Diamondbacks
are the ones that need the most help with.
Speaker 3 (02:24:10):
They would be rooting for the Braves heavy.
Speaker 10 (02:24:12):
Correct, exactly exactly. I think that's it, guys, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:24:16):
By the way, show he had Tani and a Rise
both are oh for two. It looks like a Rise
will end up winning the National League batting title. We go,
so I guess, Okannie can't do it all? He can well,
he's done at all but anyway, he's he will not
win the batting title. Rise of the Padres will win
that batting title again, all right, so yeah, it'll be
his third batting title.
Speaker 3 (02:24:35):
Was a nice pick up for the Padres. What's the
record for the Padres since he showed up?
Speaker 4 (02:24:39):
Oh my goodness, So Louise Rise. He joined the team
in the first half of the season early on and
immediately is on base percentage and his pen should get
hits in tight spots. I mean it has led to
this surge in the second half.
Speaker 2 (02:24:54):
Yeah, the Padres have been red hot. By the way,
right after our show, our podcast is going up. So
if he missed any today's show, check out the podcast.
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts
and follow, rate and review the podcast. Again, just search
Fox Sports Radio where every get you podcasts, and you'll
see the show posted right after we get off the air.
All right, let's update you on the games going on
(02:25:15):
right now, and a couple other games have just kicked off.
That would be the Raiders hosting the Cleveland Browns and
the Chargers hosting the Kansas City Chiefs. The forty nine
Ers have gotten on the board with a field goal
against New England three nothing there and a game that
I am hoping there will be a high scoring game
is off and running seven all between the Commanders and
(02:25:37):
the Cardinals. We didn't really get a chance to talk
about what Jaden Daniels did in his game last week
against the Bengals, where he was near perfect.
Speaker 3 (02:25:46):
I think what he had two incomplete passes in the
entire game.
Speaker 4 (02:25:49):
So coming out of the draft, when we saw you
know what ended up transpiring in the first round, I said,
among the first round quarterbacks selected in this year's draft,
Jaden Daniels is my pick for the most success his
rookie season. He's the most NFL ready prospect. Now that
doesn't mean that he's gonna have the best career. It
(02:26:10):
doesn't mean that one of these other six quarterbacks taken
in the first round won't develop into a Hall of
Fame talent. But Jaden Daniels to me, looked like he
was the most ready to make the jump for a
lot of different reasons. First and foremost, he looks comfortable
in the pocket throwing the football. Second of all, he
handled pressure at LSU better than a lot of other players.
(02:26:31):
And I'm not talking about the pressure of the moment
or being clutch or any of that. I'm talking about
blitz pressure. I'm talking about when you have free rushers
in your face, what you do with the football. Also,
he has the best deep ball of any of these
other quarterbacks in this draft class in terms of actoracy
downthrow downfield throwing the football, and on top of all
of it, he's an electric athlete when he decides to
(02:26:54):
take off with the football. So it's like vitamin C
to a struggling offense, which obviously the co and all
of a sudden they look completely different year over year
in terms of their prospects for improving offensively.
Speaker 2 (02:27:07):
All right, Commanders coming at two and one Cardinals one
and two Cardinals have actually played fairly well. They lost
a tough game last week to Detroit at home, but
this has figured would be a shootout between two former
Heisman Trophy winners. Meanwhile, the Chargers right now are driving
down the field. Justin Herbert is in a quarterback for
the Chargers and they're going against the Chiefs team with
(02:27:28):
one of the elite defenses.
Speaker 3 (02:27:30):
Although they didn't look elite. There is McConkie.
Speaker 2 (02:27:32):
The rookie was able to wrestle himself a way to
pick up a first down for the Chargers. So you
know you've been all for Justin Herbert playing in this game.
The Chiefs are beatable, and the Chiefs offense has not
look right for a while. They've been leaning on their defense,
which has been playing outstanding. I mentioned the last eight
regular season games for Patrick Mahomes. He has eleven touchdowns
(02:27:55):
and nine picks. I mean, he's nothing special at all.
Travis Kelcey seems to be mia this year in that
Chiefs offense. So we have a first and goal for
the Chargers right now, trying to get on the board early.
Speaker 4 (02:28:09):
Yeah, I'm very impressed with how the Chargers have built
this team. Obviously, with injuries up front on their offensive line,
it never helps, but they've built the team around a
strong running game, and that's exactly what we're seeing showcase
early this season. They're supplementing with the pass, and a
lot of teams are going this way, by the way,
because a lot of defenses are playing these shell coverages
(02:28:31):
to avoid the explosive downfield plays that we've been seeing
routinely completed and converted on throughout the course of the
recent history in the NFL. So Jim Harbaugh came back
to the NFL and said, hey, this reminds me and
when I left the NFL, when you know, the running
backs were a priority. So I'm going to bring in
Gus Edwards and JK. Dobbins and I'm going to try
(02:28:52):
to run a run first offense. As Justin Herbert throws
a strike to Lad McConkie in the back of the
end zone and the Chargers score on their opening drive
against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (02:29:04):
And the Browns have just scored a touchdown on a
pass from Shaun Watson to Whiteheart right there, so six
nothing pending the extra point there. The forty nine Ers,
by the way, have added a second field goal. They
have a six nothing lead over the Patriots. So much
as we saw early on in the opening games, we
(02:29:25):
get a little scoring going on early, but that's a.
Speaker 3 (02:29:28):
Huge start, by the way.
Speaker 2 (02:29:29):
Interesting stat about this Chess defense, which has been so
good this year, they haven't been good on opening drives.
They've given up the second most points actually now the
most points of any team in the league on opening
drives around the NFL. After the opening drives, though, it
seems like the Chiefs buckle down, but the Chargers take
advantage and waiting on this extra point by Dicker and
(02:29:52):
it is good. Seven nothing Chargers, six minutes to go
in the first quarter.
Speaker 4 (02:29:57):
By the way, it was the Kansas City Chiefs who
who really set up this drive for the Chargers, because
it was Carson Steele, I believe who. Yeah, it was
a rush up the gut. He fumbled the football recovered
by the Chargers, and that was at the Chargers' own
thirty yard line, so they had a long field. But
(02:30:18):
seventy four yards ten plays later, they get in the
end zone on that strike from Justin Herbert to McConkey.
Speaker 2 (02:30:25):
By the way, Travis Kelcey in his Hall of Fame career,
the one team he has destroyed as the Chargers. I
mean he is eating him up. And on that opening
drive before the fumble, he had a thirty eight yard catch,
so he actually I mean, we haven't seen a lot
of that of Travis kelce this year. But some guys
just have another team's number, and Kelsey the Chargers never
(02:30:45):
seem to have an answer for Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 4 (02:30:47):
Yeah, there are that is true. There are certain players
who win, they play against certain opponents.
Speaker 3 (02:30:53):
A we seem to have success. I don't know why
that is.
Speaker 4 (02:30:56):
There's really no explanation other than sometimes comfort, you know
what I mean, and sometimes also you know, I remember,
you know, playing with guys who are long veterans in
the NFL, who just especially against a division rival, they
were just like, I just like playing against these guys
because you're you feel at home on the road kind of,
you know. So the Chargers, I mean, they switched venues
(02:31:16):
to Los Angeles. Maybe maybe that's the reason why. Maybe
Travis Kelcey likes playing in front of the LA crowd
and you know, not.
Speaker 3 (02:31:23):
Just at h at Arrowhead.
Speaker 4 (02:31:25):
But whatever it is, he's off to a hot start
and we have not seen that from the Chiefs so
far this season.
Speaker 2 (02:31:31):
All Right, we started the day with five undefeated teams
in the NFL, and one is gone.
Speaker 3 (02:31:37):
That would be the Pittsburgh Steelers. Two teams have already
gotten two, well, one team got to four and zho
that would be the Minnesota Vikings. So later on we
have the Seahawks they have a big road game, the
Chiefs going on right now, and the Bills.
Speaker 2 (02:31:52):
All right, so on the other side, we'll catch up
todayight on the four games going on right now, preview
games later. How about the Bills at the Ravens. How's
that going to p layout? Keep it right here, this
is Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 3 (02:32:03):
Takes the handoff those Herbert looking at the end zone.
Here comes pressure to the back of the end zone.
Speaker 6 (02:32:07):
Pot touchdown, justin Herbert to Ladd mccauckey.
Speaker 3 (02:32:13):
What a grab for the rookie.
Speaker 4 (02:32:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:32:16):
That is k YSR ninety eight to seven the Chargers
Radio Network. Chargers taking the early seven to nothing lead
against the Super Bowl champion Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (02:32:25):
And they got the ball right back.
Speaker 2 (02:32:27):
After an interception throwing by my home So the Chargers
off to a good start there. Once again, this is
Red Zone Radio. We're live from the tire Rag dot
Com studios. We have an amazing crew here. Monci Belanos.
Of course, I'm feeling decent about my picks from our
day yesterday. I need this over badly in this game
between the Commanders and the card It's going well.
Speaker 10 (02:32:49):
For you so far, so far, so far. Anything can happen, Yes,
I know.
Speaker 3 (02:32:52):
It rarely happens in my favor. That's the problem. Min Seed.
Speaker 2 (02:32:56):
Chris, how are you feeling about this Lion's game coming up?
Speaker 4 (02:33:00):
Well?
Speaker 5 (02:33:01):
First off, I'm very glad the Lions decided to take
Sunday off so Tigers fans could in Detroit could celebrate
just a little bit longer. First playoffs in ten years.
Speaker 3 (02:33:10):
Do we know for sure right now?
Speaker 2 (02:33:12):
I believe the Tigers are actually losing to the hapless.
Speaker 3 (02:33:15):
White the White Sox, Yeah, and the Royals are winning.
Speaker 2 (02:33:18):
So if they end up with the same record, which
one is the five seed, which one is the sixth?
Speaker 5 (02:33:23):
People believe the MONSI might need to help me. Okay,
she's getting I'm not entirely sure.
Speaker 3 (02:33:27):
Okay, well, we'll figure out the tie break between.
Speaker 4 (02:33:30):
And the type breaker. I think the Royals of the
tie break. I'm just happy to be there.
Speaker 5 (02:33:34):
But no Tomorrow for the Lions, it's gonna be another
electric crowd of Ford Field.
Speaker 4 (02:33:39):
It's gonna be interesting.
Speaker 5 (02:33:40):
I think you know, they're gonna be without Frank Ragnow's
starting center. But the Seahawks defensive front seven is very
banged up right now.
Speaker 4 (02:33:49):
Both teams.
Speaker 5 (02:33:50):
You know, the Seahawks have been there, they have been undefeated,
but they've also had some questions as far as who
they've beaten in the Lions have had to make some
additions on offense, they really need to get a shot
in the arm to really get back to high powered
scoring and so by the fact they're also playing a
top ten defensive level.
Speaker 3 (02:34:08):
Right, Yeah, well, we'll see how that plays out for
your Lions.
Speaker 2 (02:34:11):
Meanwhile, it was a tough day at the office for
both Eagles, who he is now abandoned until they make
a move at the coaching position.
Speaker 16 (02:34:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:34:18):
Sure, two things real quick for me. You guys, remember
a few years ago there was mystery around the other
teams that Tom Brady almost signed with. Oh yeah, it
sounds like during the broadcast today he revealed that the
team he almost signed with that wasn't the Buccaneers was
the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 2 (02:34:32):
Why in the world would he sign with the Bears
a graveyard for quarterback?
Speaker 4 (02:34:37):
Was very interesting.
Speaker 2 (02:34:38):
I mean, what made sense was Miami, What made sense
was the forty nine Ers, you know, those were teams
that would make some sense.
Speaker 4 (02:34:44):
And then Bears. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:34:46):
I don't know if you guys saw this on the
interception return there in the Chargers Chiefs game, but it
looks like Patrick Mahomes may have taken out his best
wide receiver's knee tackle.
Speaker 9 (02:34:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:34:57):
Oh yeah, he hit she Rice's knee bent it backwards
and Rice just got carted out, So.
Speaker 3 (02:35:03):
It was it was a bad pass.
Speaker 2 (02:35:05):
He overthrew Kelsey Battle while Dicker Cameron Dicker has just
kicked a field goal for the Chargers ten nothing, Chargers.
Speaker 3 (02:35:12):
Not for nothing.
Speaker 4 (02:35:13):
But how how much worse could it get on an interception?
I guess it could have been a pit six. That's
but you you throw an interception and then you also
knocked the pins out of your your best wide receiver,
your best passing option.
Speaker 8 (02:35:27):
I know they're three and oh and everything, but this
kind of is starting to feel like the year where
things are coming due for the Kansas City Chiefs and
the run they've had over the last few years, like
stuff starting to catch up with them.
Speaker 4 (02:35:37):
Well, yeah, it's gonna be crazy also to see if
the Chiefs aren't like on top of the NFL, how
quickly do do that? If does the NFL step in
and say, hey, yeah, and about that suspension for your
star wide receiver who got in a six car pile
up and on a freeway in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (02:35:56):
Yeah where you.
Speaker 4 (02:35:57):
Know what, all of a sudden, we just got a
want of that out real quick.
Speaker 2 (02:36:01):
Yeah, I know this if the Chargers win today, they
would be tied with the Chiefs at three and one
going into their bye week. By the way, justin Herbert,
who I insisted should not play today, five for five
fifty five yards in a touchdown. Wow, who can light
up somebody better than me? I'm telling you you, I
can call somebody out. And we had the Jordan Love
(02:36:22):
situation where I literally turned to you, I said, all right,
look at these numbers. It is a bad day at
the office or Jordan Love, and within a matter of
less than an hour he through three touchdown.
Speaker 3 (02:36:31):
You are shockingly consistent.
Speaker 4 (02:36:34):
I mean, do this over and over.
Speaker 2 (02:36:35):
It is I mean, you want something good happening in
your life, tell me to say your life sucks and
I can.
Speaker 3 (02:36:41):
Suddenly turn your world around.
Speaker 10 (02:36:44):
Can never win the lottery, You will.
Speaker 2 (02:36:47):
Never, ever, ever, no chance in a million years. All
I gotta go sniffing anything close to winning a lottery.
Speaker 3 (02:36:54):
How's that?
Speaker 4 (02:36:55):
Yeah, over the time, it's a guarantee.
Speaker 2 (02:36:57):
Now, all right, Cardinals, Right now in the Commander's fourteen
to seven Skain's motoring, we got nine minutes to go
in the first half. Cardinals now have a fourth down
and they have punted the ball away, so the Commanders
will get the ball back. By the way, if you
worry wondering about Jayden Daniels, he's seven for seven to
start this game.
Speaker 4 (02:37:15):
Yeah, he is on fire, and so is this Washington
Commander's run game. It's been very, very good so far
this half. And then, speaking of run game, Deshaun Watson
just escaped the pocket on a third and nine and
was heading toward a first down. He was stopped short,
so it'll be fourth and one for the Cleveland Browns
are leading seven to nothing in Las Vegas right now
(02:37:37):
on the Raiders side of the football field. Looks like
he was able to scramble out to about the forty
three yard line forty two yard line, so they're going
for it fourth and three.
Speaker 2 (02:37:47):
By the way, remember we're just the first half of
Red Zone Radio. We got Dan Byer, we got Kerry Rose.
They getting ready to take over for us at the
top of the hour. We'll bring you through the four
games that are going on right now. What about this
game later on between the build and the Ravens Bills.
Speaker 3 (02:38:01):
We got to see this fourth and third Okay, never mind,
they just anticipated that.
Speaker 2 (02:38:06):
So the Bills the Bills right now through the first
three weeks. If you're doing power rankings, like the Bills
probably at number one, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:38:14):
Okay, I have I have that kind of ability.
Speaker 4 (02:38:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:38:17):
And you look at the Ravens and you're like, okay,
they're one and two, but they lose by a toe.
I mean, you know, against it's not like you're like, okay,
one and two, but there's still obviously an elite team.
But at home against the Bills prime time tonight. You know,
Lamar Jackson, you got to win this game.
Speaker 4 (02:38:38):
You have to win this football game. And this does
sort of feel like a spot where the Bills can lose,
right They've been so red hot, they've kind of I
don't know. But then again, with what we're just talking
about with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs looking mortal even
though undefeated through the first three games this season, maybe
(02:38:59):
this is an opportunity for the Bills to reassert themselves
as a as the power in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (02:39:05):
If they win at Baltimore tonight and Josh Allen has
another big game performance. Absolutely, I want to skip ahead
to the game we were just talking about with Chris,
and that's tomorrow Seahawks at the Lions.
Speaker 4 (02:39:16):
Seattle gets found out. This is really this is where
Seattle gets found out. And I understand there are some
injury issues with Detroit. Some oh it's it's it's just
Frank Crag.
Speaker 5 (02:39:26):
Now it is a big piece, but that is their
main injury center of Seattle.
Speaker 4 (02:39:31):
Is iron pyrite. They are fools gold. This is not
this is an illusion.
Speaker 2 (02:39:35):
This is a mirage and the dead who doesn't believe
that is Moncey belanias she take the Seahawks to win
this game. And by the way, she's killing me in picks.
So you better readjust your thinking right now on that.
