Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Living the dream once again here on a fully loaded
college football Saturday. This is Fox Sports Saturday, and we
are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Well,
here we are from. We are back together again here
on a glorious Saturday of college football. We have many
(00:26):
years together e from We're here during the football season again.
I was up early today. I could not wait to
get that Ohio State Texas game in. We'll get into
that in a moment. By the way, we also will
get you fully set for what's going on with the
National Football League. Obviously, season will open up on Thursday,
(00:48):
as the Eagles would take on the Cowboys. Here the
Cowboys in the New Seas.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Days, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Are we're talking about Oklahoma State Cowboys, Wyoming Cowboys? Which
one is all he talking about?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Well, we will have Adam Kaplan, our NFL insider, coming
up with us in about fifteen minutes, so we'll definitely
get into what's happening with the Cowboys and a lot
of things around the National Football League. All right, So,
but I want to start off from with what happened
this morning, because you have to. It is very rare
that we get this kind of a matchup to open
up the college football season. By the way, I thought
(01:23):
it was great what they did with leeksho.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Shout out to Lee Corso, Man, you want to talk
about you know, just class personify.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Well, you know, it's so funny. And Lee admitted this
when he went to ESPN, and he was his legacy
as a college football coach was very similar to Dick
vi Tal's legacy as a basketball coach, where you know,
he big personality, but it just wasn't working as a coach.
And now he's relegated to be in a broadcaster. And
when he launched help launch College Game Day back in
(01:54):
the day with beIN o'cook and Tim Brando, was the
original host of College Game Day on ESPN. He made
Claire I want to be the Dick Vitale of college football,
and he has been that and more so for him
to have that final sendoff and by the way, correctly
predict that Ohio State was going to win that game
a great sun. He's ninety years old. I mean, the
(02:16):
guy has had an amazing life, recovered from a stroke
fifteen years ago to continue his career. So absolutely as
a college football nut, that I am that you are.
Lee carso added a lot from to the landscape of
college football.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
He did, and he I also added a lot to
you know, players who step into that, into the business
of covering games in the media, just with his energy,
his personalities, just like the basketball guys. Everybody took a
little bit of something from Dick Vie to the excitement. Right,
(02:54):
Sometimes as players we can lose our excitement because we're
so into the technical aspects of things and trying to
give a take that a lot of people who didn't
play give. But he just reminded you just to bring
that energy, man, bring that energy. If you're excited, then
fans and viewers would be excited.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Absolutely. In fact, Kirk Kurbstrae was what twenty five years old.
He was replacing Craig James on college game day and
obviously he gives so much credit and well should for
his development and the career he had thanks to the league
course up. All right, So we are sitting down now
ready for this matchup. All right, So going into.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
The game, Eve four, what time did you get up?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Oh? I was up at I was up at before seven.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
That was up game.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I had had the coffee you know, Scott, I was
going to watch the game with my younger son. My
older son's out of town, my daughter's out of town.
So he and I were going to buckle down. We're
gonna watch, you know, from beginning to end. But before
we even get to the game, though, what were you expecting?
You have number one ranked Texas with arch manning Sarcasian.
Texas had a great run obviously a year ago against
(03:58):
the defending national champs. They're going to have a new quarterback.
It's got a five star quarterback coming in, but it's
a new quarterback there. It was such an interesting year
for Ohio State last year, after that disastrous loss to
Michigan to still be able to get into the playoff
and then run the table and win the national championship.
What did you expect going into that game? Did you
(04:19):
expect it to be a defensive struggle where you think
it was going to be a shootout? What were you expecting?
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Number one?
Speaker 4 (04:26):
Those early games are always you know, gear to the defense.
It's different, especially when you have so many new pieces.
You got a new quarterback, game, you got new receivers.
Both of these teams lost about twenty seven players total,
to the draft. And once you have that level of turnover,
(04:48):
especially at the signal caller, as the signal callus a quarterback,
then I'm always like, okay, it'll be a defensive game,
and then as the second half goals, they'll probably open
up a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Let me stop you for a second here, because I
you know, we we obviously talk about training camp in
the NFL, so we get to see it. We do
have preseason football and everything else. Really, people don't understand
what's the lead up to the college football season. We
hear about springball, right, and then how many weeks do
you actually have to get ready for that opening game
(05:23):
where you got everybody on the field. Obviously a lot
of new players. That turn over its tremendous. It's college
so you've got guys coming in and out, especially now
with the transfer portal, you got guys coming in for
different programs. I remember a couple of years ago, link
kiffn D, I don't know, like twenty guys in the
transfer portal and they asked them, you know, what do
you think, he goes.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
They're all coming from different programs, and you know, and
I've got you know, like three weeks, four weeks and
get them all on the same page.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
And for me, you know, I didn't want to put
the expectation on arch manning shoulder that the world has.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Right.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
This is supposed to be the Heisman front runner, this
is the number one team in the country. He's only
thrown about ninety passes prior to today, never started on the road.
That's a tall task to go on the road to
the defending national champions, one thousand people in the Shoe
for your first start on the road. And so I
(06:21):
expected pretty much what I saw. I you know, he
was a little rattled, a little off a little bit
second half. They used his legs a little bit more
to get him into into a rhythm. But I mean
any team in the country going into Ohio State into
the Shoe today as the first game would it'd be difficult,
(06:42):
let alone for a first time starter, no matter how
great he's projected to be. Now, this isn't an indictment
on arch Manning. No, he will you know, we'll revisit
this conversation at the end of the college year. And
and but you can't his career won't be an indicative
of the numbers that he put up today.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Let me make it like, by the way, did you
know I have a Heisman vote?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Do you have your favorites?
Speaker 5 (07:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (07:12):
You know.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
I don't understand this. The Heisman is not a career award,
it's a season award. So until we get a few
games under our belt and we can actually see what
guys are actually doing, I mean not counting arch Manning
out yet. But obviously he didn't do himself and he favors.
But I'll tell you what, Sark didn't do him any fake.
I felt like, here's what I felt going into this game.
(07:36):
So you're on the road. That's a tall task. Obviously
you're going against a really good Ohio State defense. But
the one thing I thought that you would do with
a quarterback that yes he hasn't started a game on
the road, Yes he has limited time, but he's two
years into that Texas program. I come out firing. I'm
going to try to put Ohio State on their heels
(07:59):
early by running. And then I understand Texas has elite
running backs, so they got a lead talent. Both these
schools have huge talent on both sides of the football.
But I would have at least come out firing and
try to get Ohio State's defense a little bit on
their heels, you know, a little bit uncertain, because the
idea of just running the ball up the middle over
(08:20):
and over again, to me, really got Ohio State into
their game, not just physically but mentally. And after that
it was almost impossible to get anything done against that
Buck guy's defense.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
What what I'll tell you is, I'm sure Sark didn't
want to put him under the gun that fast.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Now, look like I said.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
But is that really putting him under the gun.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Yeah, if you drop back seven step drops and you're
looking down the field, they got a brand new offensive
lineup there. Yeah, I got one guy that got the
right guard. They got one guy who they knew exactly
what they had. So the last thing, trusts me, the
last thing he wanted to do, well say, okay, let's
open this thing up. Let's air it out and put
(09:05):
him under instant pressure. You want to get him into
a groove to hand the ball off, hand the ball off,
move him out of the pocket, just get Remember this
is brand new for him, this is at this level.
He's never played in a game at this level at
this time. And I think it was important, and I
think Sark and that whole coaching staff wanted to make.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
It as fluid and as simple as possible to start
the game.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Well, I can't. I guess the question I had over
the last two years is this, because arch Manning, forget
the Manning name, just Arch Manning was the number one
rate of high school prospect in the country and he
sits for two years behind Quinn Ewers, who stand that
seventh round draft pick and has zero future in the NFL. Zero.
(09:54):
I mean Quin yours probably will never take a snap
in the National Football as a starting quarterback. So my
point is, if he was all that, think about what
Alabama did with to a tongue Bye Low and Jalen Hurts.
Hurts was a two year starter and they benched him
for two a tongue of buy loa well then the
whole next year. Yeah, so he sat on the bench.
(10:16):
I always gave Jalen Hurts a lot of credit for
just taking it. Then he transferred to Oklahoma and the
rest is history. But if arch Manny was all that,
then how come he had to sit for two years
behind quin you weres.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
The difference is the money. The difference is the money.
Back then, we didn't know about any money. Okay, now
there's a price tag. Quen Ers had a price tag, yes,
attached to him. So now you right, Like, so you
you can't.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
I would let to turn back the clock. You haven
I gave it fromim as a diehard ass tech. Okay,
he is absolutely to the But if if if we
had the current state, first of all, you would have
it out in the crowd, obviously, and you would have
played one year at San Diego State and the north
he knocking on that door transfer portal. Here comes Oklahoma,
(11:09):
here comes Alabama, here comes usc We're ready for you.
Speaker 7 (11:12):
Man.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Oh, I get it, and I understand that. But you know,
Texas made a decision and and our Manning made a decision.
What they didn't want to do is they wanted to
take the Manning family is what I'm talking about. They
wanted to take time, and Texas wrote a really big
check and so they.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Were like, look, it's okay for me.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Quarterbacks who play a lot in college and have multiple
years of starting fair better when they get to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
But he is in a system that he is known
for the system, so he and it didn't look like
there was a lot of uncertainty. He was very uncomfortable there.
He wasn't under dress every time he passed. There were
times when he had chances to look down the field
and he kept checking off and checking off and checking off,
and very frustrating. Well, I have more on that on
(12:05):

He is our Fox Sports Radio NFL insider, the great
Adam Kaplan is joining us right now. Gee, I wonder
what I want to ask you first? Oh?
Speaker 5 (14:41):
So game go?
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Yeah? All right? So bottom line, because I know you've
been all over this, MICHAEH. Parsonsingh bottom line was could
this have been avoided or was this inevitable that he
was going to be sent packing?
Speaker 9 (14:57):
No, here's what happened. This is really what happened. This
is Jerry Jones, the King of double talk. Could say
whatever he wants, but here's the real story. So you
know he did this undercover negotiation with Micah. We've talked
about this before. It was actually in April Jerry confirmed it.
My understanding as the offers was this before the JJ
Watt deal for over forty million per season. Okay, he
(15:17):
wanted him back, no matter what he said this week
after the trade. Oh, we're better and we're going to
be a better team now that Mike has gone. That's nonsense.
You made this monster offer to make him the highest
paid defensive player in NFL history.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
And that's what he did.
Speaker 9 (15:33):
It was going to beat Miles Garrett's deal, and he
did it without the agent David Mulligeta involved, and that
why he decided to do that, and that's when Michael
put a stop to it. Why he decided to do
that is beyond me, even for him. It makes no sense.
And you've seen some former players to beak out about it.
This is not the way you do business.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
And then you know you.
Speaker 9 (15:55):
Fast forward to this week really actually last weekend, when
Micah was laying on that table.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
What was that about?
Speaker 9 (16:01):
I think Jerry was kind of fed up with the
situation and then basically Parsons felt the heat and he actually,
you know, they contacted him and basically Jerry told him
it's simple, you're gonna either take You're gonna play in
your fifth year option, and we'll see what happens next year.
And of course he was going to do that. That
would have that would have made the situation way worse
because it wasn't playing on it, and there was dispute
(16:22):
about whether it was twenty one million or twenty four million.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
But to more point now, and let me ask you this,
what does that do to the locker room?
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Michael Parsons obviously was one of the leaders on that team,
definitely the best defensive player they had in the entire building.
And just watching the way Jerry has handled this, uh,
I know, people and Dak and probably CD and everybody
else was like, oh, this is par for the course
and it'll get done this week coming up, just like
(16:52):
the other two deals did the previous two years. What
does this do to that locker room? Heading into the
opening day, he was six days away. How do the
guys now, you know, refocus it and let it go
because it's got to be awful.
Speaker 9 (17:09):
Oh yeah, I mean, you're talking about one of the
top five defensive players of the National FOOTBA League, two
time All Pro, made a Pro Ball four years and
you're taking out the football team.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
It makes them worse. They know this. I mean, they didn't.
Speaker 9 (17:20):
Make this trade before the draft, so they didn't get
anything for the season other than Kenny Clark. But by
the way, one personnel director from another team told me,
if this guy's a culture built or good guy, but
he turns thirty next month or actually in October, to be.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
Exacts, so it's not good. They know this that the.
Speaker 9 (17:35):
Players can't be happy because it makes them worse. Now,
Jerry claims that he talked to some of the player
leaders about it, and of course he threw that stuff
about all that the front office and the coaches were
on board. Sure, okay, yeah, they want to get worse.
Sure when they're trying to keep their jobs.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah okay yeah. And by the way, I would they
stop though the comparisons with the Herschel Walker trade that
was three ones, three two. Oh, I mean it was
a completely different world back.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
Of the day.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I mean, not even close. All right, but does this
make Green Bay a Super Bowl contender? I got to
come clean because actually I've been saying this for the
last four years. Certainly I recognize Michael Parson. He's a
great player, but I don't think he is as great
as some people have hyped him up to be. Look
at their last playoff game against Green Bay two years ago,
as they're getting blown out at home by green Bay
(18:24):
through the first three quarters, I think was like forty
to sixty in green Bay, zero tackles, zero sacks. In
four playoff games, he has one sack. So there have
been times when he has disappeared in big games for
the Cowboys over the years. With that being said, can
he have the same impact that I don't know Reggie
White had when the Packers acquired him. The next thing
(18:46):
you know, they win a Super.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
Bowl nineteen ninety three. Yeah, in Plan B free agency.
Speaker 9 (18:50):
So basically with Parsons, and the word around the Packers
was they knew that other than Rashan Gary, they're just
not good enough on the defensive line, enough pass rush.
Lucas Fanas, who was a first round in twenty twenty three.
He was drafted to playing the thirty four front well
the next year. The next year they fired Joe Barry,
the defense coordinator. So they've gone with a forty three
(19:11):
last year in this year, so Vanas doesn't really fit
and they just don't have enough pass rush and.
Speaker 5 (19:16):
This is one of those opportunities.
Speaker 9 (19:18):
Or Shaun Gary's a good football player, you put him
next to Parsons and now you just assume they're going
to be really, really good. Look, I hear you in
the playoffs. That's a snapshot in time. But the guy's
a phenomenal football player. And now I think the way
I heard it is they wanted if they got the
deal done in Dallas, they want to parts has taken
a major leadership role. Now there's a question about what
(19:41):
type of leader he might have been, but you can't
in terms of regular season. I get the playoffs, but
regular season, I mean it's almost unprecedented to think about it.
He's only played four years to All pros.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yeah right, he finished top three in the Defensive Player
of the Year voting his first three years.
Speaker 9 (20:00):
I mean, look, the guy's a phenomenal foot player. Here's
another thing. He's only twenty six. Does it turn twenty seven?
See Steve. I want to touch on this. So one
former GM told me that, you know, I got a
lot of opinions. He said, don't focus on it's Green
Bay or to another team in the conference. Focus on
the value. I'm like, well, could you explain that he
goes Let's be honest.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
Green Bay is.
Speaker 9 (20:19):
A good team. They were a good team before this,
not great. They weren't elite most likely, and barring a
major injury on either side of the football, they're going
to finish somewhere between probably twenty four and thirty two
in the draft ward of the first round. So you're
getting it two late first round picks and an agent
Kenny Clark. That's not going to value, which is what
the guy said. I totally agree with that.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Let me ask you this, Let's stay with Green Bay
and let's go to the other side of the ball.
I know what Micah Parsons does for them in their defense,
but this is a huge year for Jordan Love. I'm
not sure, and the jury's out for me. I'm not
sure if he is what people are saying he is.
(21:03):
Some programasticated is saying he's a favorite to be the
league MVP.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Now, is it me or Am I missing something?
Speaker 5 (21:12):
Are?
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Is is he really that good? Because I'm not convinced yet.
Speaker 9 (21:17):
He's talented, But the problem with him is when we
saw this, really he's only started two years, a lot
of turnovers. You worry about that. He got hurt last season.
He hurt his knees, he had a finger injury. Now,
the other problem was, and the reason why they drafted
Matthew Golden the first round was because they wanted somebody
who's a playmaker.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
They just although they have pretty.
Speaker 9 (21:38):
Good depth, Christian Watson, who's their best deep threat, he's
coming back from a tourn a cl he's going to
miss at least the first four games. So Matthew Golden
they're hoping, and he did have a good training camp
I'm told so that he's going to be a playmaker.
They're very deep with their past target group.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
Now.
Speaker 9 (21:52):
Their offensive line's fine, it's not great, but it's fine.
He just you know that from playing offensive line and
watching quarterbacks, your job as a quarterbacks to make everyone
around them better, and he has not done that. On
your point, He's been good at times, but he doesn't
taken that next step.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
All right, let's talk about the first game on Thursday.
Eagles Cowboys. I mean, the Cowboys have got to be
spinning right now, you know, after the Parsons situation. And
then I look at the Philadelphia Eagles. I know no
team has repeated as NFC East champs in twenty years.
I know all these stats and everything, but I mean, seriously,
I'm looking at the Eagles this year. This is the
(22:28):
strongest team in the NFL by far on both sides
of the line. They're in the trenches. Well, I mean the statistic.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
They are, but you don't believe they lot five starters.
They're not playing. They don't have the same team. That's
the probably.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Well I'm okay, the year ago they certainly were and they.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
Showed up, they were awesome. But again they've lost five starters.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Okay, what is and now you're closest to this Eagles team.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
So I look at.
Speaker 9 (22:49):
Thirty two teams, So I look at I do strength
to sketchule for all thirty two tos.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Okay, would you still rate the Eagles as the prohibitive
favorite to come out of the NFC.
Speaker 9 (22:59):
I got to turn it. I got a turn three
picks in. You know what, the NFC is very op
wide open, Steve, I'm gonna be honest with you. Really, Yeah,
Green Bay is going to be better. I know they
choke in the playoffs. I get it that Matt Lafour's
not good in the playoffs. He's been like the Lamar
Jackson of head Coaches's great in the regular season. I'd
say that, but it is true. Specting Washington take a
big step. I know people pick apart. You know last
(23:21):
year was a fluke. The Chicago game. I don't think
the a NFC West is anything great. I think it's
very wide open. Tampa Bay has got all sorts of
injury problems. Detroit where's their past rush. I think it's
wide open. Now it's Philly, a top four, top five team. Yes,
I would agree with that, but I am concerned, Steve.
So here, here's my concern with Philly is left cornerback right,
(23:42):
It's going to be a Dorry Jackson who's sort of
a journeyman at thirty years old. They try Keithley Ringo,
who was a fourth front pick two years ago. Didn't work.
That's a problem. Moult Williams has gone New England. He's
signed a major deal. Josh Schwetz sign a Sigiffic deal
as a pass rusher. They low yeah, and then Brandon Graham.
He won't make the Pro football team, but it'll make
the team's Hall of Fame. He was phenomenal before he
(24:04):
got hurt. Last season. Guys, this is they lost a
lot of players, five starters.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
One key backup. That does worry me a little bit.
Let's stay in the NFC and let's go to Chicago Bears.
What do you expect from Caleb Williams under the new regime?
And I mean everything hasn't been roleses and smiles coming
out of training camp between Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
What can we expect from them? Because last year people
were like, oh, they're going to the League super Bowl
and all.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Of that that fell flat. What are we looking forward
to from the Chicago Bears this year?
Speaker 5 (24:37):
All Right, I'm gonna I'm gonna make this proclamation. It
won't take very long.
Speaker 9 (24:40):
If it's going to work either, it's going to be
a complete disaster for Caleb Williams. Unter, bench outs and
bench outs his short fuse. You know from being around coaches,
the term coaching hard. He is on his players and
his coaches and his quarterbacks and Caleb Williams played with
a lack of discipline last season quite frankly at USC
though he's right talented.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
First five or six games.
Speaker 9 (25:02):
If this is not working out, that they're going to
want to go to Tyson Pagent who got that nice extension,
but or case Keenum.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
But this thing could get really ugly because they're no
more excuses.
Speaker 9 (25:12):
They have the three new stars of the offensive line
of the interior. They're super talented receiver Johndre shifted a
great training camp, Colston Lovelin and Carl Comata titan. I mean,
you want to talk about one of the most talented
offenses the National Footall League. Bears are our top four
offense in terms of talent.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Wow, Well, we'll see how work out that. The big
question is going to be can Ben Johnson and Caleb
Willies get on the same page. Obviously Ben Johnson was
on the same page, you know, with golf and it
worked out beautifully in Detroit. Can they get on the
same page?
Speaker 5 (25:45):
All right?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Well, Adam, at this point, all we're thinking is get
the game started. That's all we want. Get the game started, Adam.
Great STUFFL talk to you next week.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Got that's Adam Kaplan, our NFL insider. Now let's find
out what is a trending and wow, look who is here? Yes,
he is a newly ed by the way, the new
quoff looks good man like you look better? I mean
he always looks good.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
I mean, but you look but you look I know
what's going on with you before? But you look good
right now?
Speaker 2 (26:20):
And you look good like you like? How's your world
right now?
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Steve?
Speaker 7 (26:24):
It's been almost a month because I've got a haircut
just just for the I don't know.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
I haven't seen it in.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
A month because the last time I got my haircut
is when I got married.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
I'm doing well.
Speaker 7 (26:34):
Yeah, I'm doing well better than the quarterbacks we saw
it at noon today, either one of them.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Yeah, rough, a little bit rough today.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Yeah, I'm uh, I'm sitting pretty though, Steve. How are you?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Oh, I'm doing great as matter of fact, and Martin
nine are going to do a show next Saturday, as
a matter of fact, to go. You ready to lock
in with me again?
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Listen, there's America ready.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
We got three hours next three hours, three hours think
the chef.
Speaker 7 (26:58):
Well, we have a couple of football games going on
most of them are blowouts, but one of.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Them pretty intriguing. Right here.
Speaker 7 (27:03):
Florida State and Alabama, the Seminoles playing host to the
eighth rain Crimson Tide. Alabama does have the ball and
is driving in Florida State territory, but right now trailing
twenty four to ten with about twelve minutes left in
the fourth quarter. It's been almost all Florida State pretty
much from the second quarter on the scoring seventeen on
(27:24):
answer to Alabama, answer with the field goal here and
see if they're able to score here. Ty Simpson has
been playing okay, but I just know the Alabama fans
and my group chat have been losing their minds saying
where's the freshman?
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah? They also have no running game, Alabama.
Speaker 7 (27:38):
Yeah game, it's you can tell Saban's been on TV
for a few years now.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
This is not a Nick Sabans Alabama team.
Speaker 7 (27:45):
Penn State the second rate team in the nation with
a forty six to three lead over in Nevada, to
Georgia with the forty five to six lead over Marshall
in the fourth quarter. Iowa State with a forty one
point lead over South Dakota, Oregon with they fifty two
to six lead with twelve minutes left in the fourth quarter. There,
I'm sure we have to finish that one to find
out who's the winner. Between Oregon and Montana State, Oklahoma
(28:08):
with day seven to nothing lead over Illinois State, John
Mattier getting his first start for the Sooners of the
first quarter wines down there earlier today. Speaking of first starts,
it was Julian Sam's first start for the Ohio State Buckeyes,
and he looked a lot better than the hyped up
version of arch Manning.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
That Steve got on a lot better, but he was as.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
You know what he didn't do. He didn't need anybody
in their ankles. No arch Manning did. A few times today.
Speaker 7 (28:33):
Ohio State forced four tournaments on downs, to one of
them in arch Manning touch push that didn't go into
the end zone.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
I was bad.
Speaker 7 (28:39):
Execution awful, Yeah, it was. I think execution the story
of the day for Texas. Offensively just weren't able to
get it done and when they had guys open, couldn't
hit him.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Jeremiah Smith was.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
Relatively quiet with six catch forty three yards the Buckeyes
winners forty I'm sorry, fourteen to seven Tennessee beat Syracuse
forty five to twenty six. Remember Tennessee had their quarterback
Nico iom ali avad. That was a big story of
the summer. Joey Agilar got the start for day today
for the volunteers. Sixteen for twenty eight, two forty seven
(29:11):
and three touchdowns. Now first and goal for the Alabama
Crimson Tide as they try to cut this to a
touchdown at best.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Uh, that was ugly. All right, back to you guys.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Yeah, we're watching it right now. So Alabama trying to
get into that now they got in get it they yeah, yeah,
ended well, all right, so a lot of time left.
Let me give minutes to go. Rico Scott there a
little six down, a six yard touchdown reception that penning
the extra point. We'll get Alabama within a touchdown here
by the way, Uh quick, my mind. Every once again
we are live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Steve
(29:44):
Hartmin and Ephrom swam with you. You know, everything has
changed so much. We're talking right at the top of
the show Ephrom about the money now, the infusion of
money into the collegiate game. These are professionals now, they're
actually getting paid and so the pressure on these coaches
is immense. And when you talk about high price coaches
on the hot seat, Kaylin de Bori is certainly on
(30:05):
that list. Lincoln Riley USC's on that list, Brian Kelly
at LSU is on that list. And you say, well,
the buyouts are ridiculous. Yeah, you remember Jimbo Fisher's baya
was seventy million plus at Texas A and M. They
had no problem buying him out and sending him packing.
So there is no price tag that is too big.
(30:26):
I mean, I see where USC they're twenty twenty six class.
They really open up the pocketbooks. They got this superstar
class coming in. I don't know if Lincoln Riley's going
to be there though, because if you could have predicted
when Lincoln Riley came to USC that going into year
four his team would be unranked going into his fourth
year at USC, which is now his team, you get
(30:48):
the year four that is your team and you are unranked,
a middle of the pack at best Big ten school,
not what you invested in at US. Is it fair
Ephraim to have a different level of accountability for these
college coaches now with the infusion of the nil money.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
Well, I think it is because now you can you're
actually building your team, You're going out and getting players
that you want in the transferred portal, You're offering a
large sums of money for the athletes. I think I'm
I'm essentially coming at it from the other angle when
it comes to these buyouts for these coaches. Now, some
(31:29):
schools may be able to buy out the coaches usc camp,
but when you talk about the amount of money they're
spending on the actual players. Now, now it's like, all right,
do we buy out a coach for thirty forty fifty
million dollars and still have to go out and attack
(31:53):
the portal? And nil? So Now, when Jimbo got bought out,
that was just Jimbo. They weren't paying players yet.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Oh but A and M was spending money. They had
the number one recruiting class in the country.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
What I'm saying is, now you're going to look at
it as an athletic director, as a school, You're going
to look at that buyout number a little different now,
because you know you have a large portion of your
resources or the collective of whatever they would like to
call it, going to the actual players.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Now.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
So, now are we digging out of both pots. All right,
are we just gonna dump this money out over here
and dump this money out over here? So but in
terms of Lincoln Riley, and you want to talk about
a hot seat, and you got to remember, Lincoln Riley
for two years had the number one college QB prospect
yes on the planet and nothing to show for it.
(32:51):
And so now it's like, Okay, how do you with
less talent, how do you dig yourself out of this hole?
And for me, I'm like, ugh, it doesn't seem promising
for se and Lincoln Riley moving forward just because of
the dynamics of remember that was the PAC twelve.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Is no, there is not the PAC twelve anymore.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Now you're in a bigger conference, tougher schools, longer travel.
It's so many things that are pushing against Lincoln Riley
and the SC Trojans. It's so different than when he
first got there.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Well, his game if you go back to his Oklahoma
days and what we've seen from USC the last three years.
When I think about USC football in the heyday, physical
oh yeah, physical football team in the mouth, and you
know they had sort of gotten away with it. And
then Pete Carroll brought it back and so physical football
team dominate the line of screwage. You go way back
(33:46):
to the John McKay, John Robinson days. You know, student
body left, student body right. It wasn't a complicated play,
but they were so dominant up front, it didn't matter.
You know what's coming. You still can't stop us. You
have to play for football in the Big Ten. Oh
they lost every one of their Big Ten road games
last year. You can't stand up to these teams in
(34:08):
the Big Ten and play that physical brand of football,
which is not Lincoln Riley's game. At least it has
a main brings in rob Ryan. I don't know what
rob Ryant can change the dynamic the mindset of this
USC defense, but if anything is close, he has a
worst winning percentage than Clay Helton had. Yeah, at ten
(34:29):
times the amount price tag. Uh, it just doesn't add up.
But I mean again, you look at Kalin de Boor
coming off what happened a four lost season at Alabama
last year, and here you are right now, you're losing
to Florida State. They're down twenty four to seventeen, plenty
of time left, eleven minutes to go, but they're not
looking great right now. And I know no one's gonna
(34:52):
that's always the problem, right You don't want to be
the guy that replaces the guy.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
And when you look at se scale, it's you know, hey,
today they get a chance to stretch their legs against Georgia, Southern.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Georgia, it's it's yes.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Okay, that's great. You get to see what you got.
Yeh can move some guys.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Look at their games coming up. In the middle of
that stress. You go to Purdue, Yes, Michigan State, yes,
Ellen number twelve, Illinois. You go to Illinois. Okay, see
there's a problem right there at Illinois.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Michigan. Yeah. Right, then you go to Notre Dame Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
By the way, Lincoln Riley wants to take Notre Dame
off the schedule. Yes, really you want to You want
to eliminate Notre Dame off.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
The USC schedule. Yeah, because they're going to get hitting
them out every single.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
A team that's not going to get hitting them out.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Hey, man, Look, it's just the wild wild West in
college recruits and n I L and and guys leaving
guys coming in. It's just a tough schedule for a
coach who's on the hot seat right now, and we
don't know who they're going to be offensively and defensively,
and this first game we still won't know who that is.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Brian Kelly came with a lot of hype with LSU.
They got their game coming up against Clemson. Dabos Sweeney
I think has finally got things in order again. They
have a veteran quarterback in Club Nick. They've got a
really good team. We got much more college football to
get to, but we also have to look ahead to
the week in the NFL. We're gonna break it down
for you. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio Steve Harmony from
salam Here, Fox Sports Saturday, coming in live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
All right, so we got a lot of interesting Week
one matchups in the National Football League and one team
that is not projected to have a great season but
still will get a lot of attention because of everything
that has happened leading up to the start of the
season is the Cleveland brown and Joe Flacco, who was
sitting on the couch a couple of years ago. Great
(37:05):
comeback story with the Browns. Kevin Stefanski found the right
guy got him into the playoffs, then he didn't look
good into the playoffs, and last year brought back Sean
Watson in the fl It's a mess. And then they
decide to draft two quarterbacks, one of them by the
name of Shudoor Sanders. These are the first six games
of the Brown season here Ephraim home against the Bengals
(37:28):
at the Ravens, home against the Packers at the Lions,
home against the Vikings at Pittsburgh. So that is your
first six games of the year. That is a rough,
rough stretch, which is ultimately why Kevin Stefanski, All right,
can we go back to that last preseason game for
a moment here. So Stefanski announces that Joe Flack willbe
(37:52):
is opening game starter, and people were just, ah, it's
going to be a five win season. Give Shudor the
opportunity to play. Then they play that last preseason game.
Flacco goes nine out of ten. He looked fine, and
then they bring in Dylan Gabriel. He looked pretty good,
and then Shador Sanders looks awful. Yes, so bad that
(38:14):
they put in Tyler Huntley for the final drive of
the game, a guy that obviously was immediately released because
he was only picked up after Kenny Pickett I went
down with an injury. So there was this theory that
Kevin Stefanski to prove to everybody out there that No,
Shador Sanders is not ready to be a Week one
starter in the National Football League. I'll show you why
(38:37):
purposely put him in a position to look terrible for
everybody to watch. So I want to I want to
get a fresh, fresh thought from you on two things.
One do you buy into the conspiracy theory that we
saw in Week three of the preseason the Browns? And
(38:57):
then the second part of it is how long do
you expect Joe Flacco to be the starting quarterback of
the Cleveland Browns?
Speaker 3 (39:03):
All right?
Speaker 4 (39:04):
On the first one, No, I don't buy into the
conspiracy theory because as a fifth round draft pick in
the final preseason game, you're playing with the guys who
are trying to make the team. That's just it. You
don't get a starting offensive line, you don't get it.
Dylan Gabriel didn't have the starting offensive line out there
(39:24):
with him, are the starting receivers or anybody like that.
They both played with guys try our vying for position.
On the team. How you handle that? What I saw
from Shadour was some of the same criticisms that had
for him when he was at Colorado.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
He hold on him to the ball to.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
Long, and he's not athletic enough to escape a rush
turning his shoulders to the opposite goal goal post. And
he did it and got away with it in college
at Colorado, But in the NFL, even those guys who
were chasing them, some of them don't have have jobs
(40:00):
right now, so people have to keep that in context.
Those guys were vying for a roster spot as well.
If you can't manage to get the slide up in
the pocket and get the ball off against third and
fourth string defensive lineman opening day against Trey Hendrickson, and
(40:22):
that defense is not gonna go well for you. So
for me, they took him out of the two minute
drive to preserve his health because a couple of those
sacks he took looked like they could have been serious injuries,
and they knew they were gonna cut Huntly in twelve hours,
so they wanted to take that pressure and that possible
(40:45):
injury to Shadure off the table to allow him to
continue to progress. As a you know, on the scout
team and during the year.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
Joe Flacco looking into the schedule, like how about three
straight games against the NFC North, about that Packers at
Lions Vikings.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
I can see him being done at the Vikings. Somebody
else starting at you know, at home against the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Yeah, right back on that couch is where he's going
to be. We got much more coming up about the NFL.
This is Fox Sports Saturday.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio rolling along on this.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
First full weekend of college football. This is Fox Sports Saturday,
and we are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
You know, I was a couple of years ago when
I realized that we suddenly have a bye week in
the NFL between the end of the preseason and the
start of the regular season.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
Yeah. Yeah, when I was like.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Did I miss something? Did there's like a bye week?
Speaker 5 (41:45):
Now?
Speaker 4 (41:45):
When they went to three games they just preseason games.
It was just a natural buy.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
But it gives college football the full spotlight this weekend,
and we do have some marquee games looking forward to.
This game coming up here going to kick off shortly
between LSU and Clemson. So it does give us really
a spotlight here on college football. But here's the thing
about what we're watching right now. As Alabama continues to
trail Florida State thirty one to seventeen, and again this
(42:12):
is a road game. And then you got you know,
Texas losing their game today on the road against Ohio State.
It's a different dynamic now, Ephraim, because you know, losing
a game week one doesn't mean you can't be in
the playoffs at the end. We saw what happened in
Ohio State. They lost the last game. Think about it.
They lose to Michigan, who was what a three four
(42:32):
touchdown underdog, did not even play in the Big Ten
championship game, and yet they were able to have enough
on their resume to get a wild card, so to speak,
into the College football playoff. They won on a roll.
Next thing, you know, you win a national championship and
people they shouldn't have been there. I'm like, wait a second.
(42:52):
In all professional sports, how often does the actual best
team in the regular season end up winning the champion?
And shit, it doesn't happen all that often. I mean
more often than I mean. You look at the Giants,
couple of Super Bowls and Tom Coughlin, I mean, how
many times would they beat the Patriots? They beat the
Patriots twice. If the Patriots and the Giants played, you know,
(43:15):
ten times in those years, Giants won what once twice?
It just so happened they won the biggest game in
the Super Bowl. So at the end of the year
you could say, well, they were the best because they
won the playoffs. All right, Well that's what we have
now in college football. Oh Lsday wasn't the best team
last year. They lost to Michigan, but they were at
the end of the year. They won all the games
ahead of them, and they won the playoff, the playoff
(43:38):
one year under the playoff. Do you like the format
of playoff? They are going to change the seating because
that didn't make sense a year ago. And that's why
Boise was a three seed. Arizona State at four seed.
Now they're going to redo that. Are you happy with
twelve teams? Is it too many? Too few? How would
he from Salaam put together his college football playoff?
Speaker 4 (44:00):
At first, when they went from four to twelve, I
thought it was a bit excessive. I thought eight was
a sweet spot, right, And you can even have the
top two seeds have a bye, right, and then carry on.
I thought there weren't twelve teams at any given moment
(44:22):
in FBS to challenge for the national.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
So you weren't excited about SMU or Indiana.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
It just Tennessee. It just felt a little bit watered down.
Right now. With that said, a lot of those first.
Speaker 4 (44:43):
Round games were blowouts, and you know, hard to watch it.
And then you know, as you kept moving forward and
kept advancing, the rubbers started meeting the road and things
like that. I'm okay with the twelve teams. Now there's
talk about expanding it to more. Don't do that for
a second.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
H Here's the one problem I have with it the bye.
I predicted correctly that all four teams of the bye,
including number one Oregon, we're gonna lose killed it. I
mean they look flat. I mean that first half of
that Oregon Ohio State game. How flat that Oregon looks.
They look like a team that oh that's right. They
hadn't played in overall month, playing a team that had
(45:23):
just played what ten days before a week before. So
that's the thing. If you're gonna go either you go
eight or you go sixteen. Byes in college are not
the same as byes in.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
Professional No, No, not at all, not at all.
Speaker 4 (45:38):
And you got to just remember there's so much more
to being a college athlete than just the sport aspect
of it. There's so much more responsibility that they have
that they're enduring, and so the longer you draw out
the season for them, the tougher it is in other
aspects of just being a college student. And so I'm
(46:02):
looking at the top twenty five now and as it stands, Texas,
Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, Alabama, LSU, Miami,
Arizona State in Illinois would be in the College Championship
Ship Series.
Speaker 3 (46:20):
Right now, they've been the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
Now we know that's going to change dramatically, but I
can pick four teams or right, let me ask you this,
what four teams do you see in this top twelve now?
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Right now? The top four teams I felt going into
the year were Texas, Penn State, Clemson, Ohio State. Okay,
those are the four teams I felt going into the year.
And of course, again, hey, you know, Texas looked awful today.
Ohio State, by the way, didn't look like great.
Speaker 3 (46:49):
Now, let's just they didn't look awful.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Well, defensively they look so and so you have to.
Speaker 4 (46:55):
Keep that in context when you're talking about it, Like
if they if the score was fifty six to twelve,
then we'd be like, they looked awful. The fact that
that defense was able to go on the road and
keep them in the game was unbelievable, tough task to do.
Both teams had things that they were trying to figure out. Now,
(47:16):
will arch Manning be able to learn from this pick
himself up and carry the offense because they're gonna have
to score points. They're gonna need to score points. They'll
still probably be in the top five and losing to
number three, the number three seed. What do you do
from here on out? He just looked very tentative. I
don't know if it was a play calling. I don't
(47:38):
know if it was the atmosphere. They had some pre
snap penalties on offense. I know it's hard to play
in the horseshoe, all of those things. He needed to
get that out of his system. Talking to arch Manning.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
And I think as well, getting this game out of
the way first. Oh yeah, it's a big plus huge.
This this is again. You know, there's not that sense
of urgency anymore losing these first games. You know, by
the way, Alabama's quarterback Tys Simpson is exactly the same.
He was a five star recruit. He's been in the
program for three years, just sort of sitting around winning
(48:15):
for his opportunity to be the starting quarterback. He is
struggling today against Florida State would help with Alabama had
a little bit of a running game going on right now.
But even if Alabama loses this game, it doesn't really matter.
Speaker 4 (48:27):
It doesn't And and case in point, not to get
too far away from Texas when you look at their
next three games. San Jose State at.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
Home, Spartans uteb Yes at homes, Sam Houston Hello at home.
Speaker 4 (48:43):
Yeah, so we're going to be able to say, right,
We're going to be able to tell real soon. If
arch Manning is who everyone says he is, right with
those three games, he should be putting up astronomical numbers.
The offense should find a rhythm. The defense is already
(49:05):
playing at that level that they need to play at
all year. So these next those next three games, Santos State,
UTIP and Sam Houston are going to tell us everything
we need to know about arch Manning and his maturation
moving forward this season.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
I dare say Sark is probably thinking right now, I'm
glad we got this out of the way quick. Got
that first. L You know, if you're suddenly ten and oh,
eleven and zero, you know the pressure builds. Right, you're
number one, So you're sitting preseason number one. I don't
even know why there's a preseason poll. It never makes
any sense, but they do it anyway. So we got
(49:45):
that out of the way. Texas, by the way, had
never been preseason number one ever preseason AP poll started
way back in nineteen fifty. Had never been number one preseason.
So you get that out of the way. No harm done, really,
no harm done. I mean we're going to be talking
about it. Oh and then the social media was blowing
up with arch Manning, you know, blah blah blah blah blah.
(50:06):
And it really doesn't have any effect on the rest
of this season.
Speaker 4 (50:10):
No, No, it's this is actually great because they'll be
they'll hit a stride because their next couple games are
tough ones at Florida, Yeah, right, the Red River rivalry Oklahoma,
and so it's it's he should be clicking, and that
(50:32):
offense should be clicking on all cylinders there as they
go into the second half of.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
The season and get into their SEC schedule.
Speaker 4 (50:40):
And they'll and and and look, we'll we'll re like
I said, we'll revisit this conversation in December.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
Well and again we were just reminded again we talked
about early losses. Ohio State had the ultimate late season loss,
the ultimate late season loss to their rival Michigan, a
vastly inferior Michigan team, and they still got a spot
in the playoff and made the most of it. So
the whole dynamic college football has definitely changed.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
And I think that's good because that that lose now,
that lose right now is a detriment right It doesn't
allow any wiggle room because there's only four spots up
now you can like. What I don't want to see though,
is any three loss teams.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
I don't think that's what I have them.
Speaker 3 (51:26):
Two.
Speaker 2 (51:27):
Do you want more expansion though, I mean.
Speaker 3 (51:29):
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no no no. They
want twenty four teams four, not twenty four teams in
the nation.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Our buddy Rich Rnberger won sixty four, just like they
have in college.
Speaker 4 (51:39):
That's the same thing they played, well, they got the idea,
played one a week.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
And for football, would you obviously if you go beyond sixteen,
you eliminate the conference championship games.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Yeah, but no, you want to have the conference championship.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Games and to be an automatic qualifier to get in.
You're not seated to see that was a mistake made
a year ago where the top four rank conference champions
would be the top four seeds. That will not be
the case this year. The seeding will not allow that.
So I look at it. I'm just such enough for
college football. The thing is, I don't want to take
(52:15):
away from all the tradition, because the tradition makes trying
to burn it down, and then then the argument for
people to say, well you make new traditions. No, you
don't have to get rid of all. That's why I
get so irked when I hear about Lincoln Riley saying, yeah,
we need to get Notre Dame off a schedule. Man,
We're already playing a Big ten schedule. We don't need
Notre Dame. I'm like, don't do that, just be better
(52:37):
beat Notre Dame. Then you can keep them on your schedule,
all right. Coming up on the other side, we go
back to the NFL, and we got a lot of
quarterbacks making debuts, but none bigger than this guy.
Speaker 3 (52:48):
Who is it?
Speaker 2 (52:49):
You're going to find out? This is Fox Sports Saturday,
Steve Harmon and Ephram salav Fox Sports Saturday. We are
coming a live from the Fox Sports Radio studios for
the best pregame show every weekend. Be sure to tune
into Fox Sports Radio's Countdown presented by bet MGM, every
Saturday and Sunday morning nine am to noon Eastern six
am to nine am Pacific. We'll count it down to
(53:11):
all the biggest games. Tune into Countdown presented by bet
MGM every Saturday and Sunday morning right here on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. We're actually trying to
watch coverage of this Texas A and a matchup with
Texas San Antonio. And yeah, you would, you would think
if you're broadcast in the game, you would get, you know,
(53:32):
pretty good angles for your camera.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
Old cameras are end zone kit.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
It's an aerial camera that might as well be shot
from the moon. I mean, you can't you can't tell
you can't. Look at they pulled back. Look at this
score bug, he's kind of blocking the bottom of the play.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
Yeah, you can't even the bottom half.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
That is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Wow, they're
gonna have to work out a few things. By the way,
it's over, Florida State has easily handled Alabama thirty one
to seventeen. Mike Norville, coming off a two to ten
season for Florida Stay, desperately needed that one. And as
far as Calen de wor is concerned, Wow, that's his
fifth loss in fourteen games as the head coach at
(54:16):
Alabama and hot seat, hot seat, hot seat. We'll see
where they go from here. All right. So everyone's like, Oh,
I know which quarterback you want to talk about, and
his big debut is starting quarterback? You want to talk
about Daniel Jones with a cult. No it's not Daniel
Jones kills. Yeah, thank you. That's going to be a
(54:37):
bad team, that's going to be a bad year.
Speaker 5 (54:39):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
No, I'm talking about the big game coming up where, yes,
a legendary quarterback is going to go up against his
former team, Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers taking on
the new York Jets. So we're finally here week one
Aaron Rodgers, and I'll preface this by saying this ephrom
you know, predicting that this will be this will be
(55:04):
the first losing season of Mike Tomlin's coaching career. Oh,
he's never had a losing season. He's had five hundred seasons,
but he's never had a losing season. And think about
they've been a playoff team. They're a playoff team with
Kenny Piggotty quarterback. They were a playoff team, you know,
rotating quarterbacks. A year ago. They were a playoff team
when Ben Roethlisberger could no longer throw the ball fifteen
(55:26):
yards down the field. Aaron Rodgers started all seventeen games
for the Jets last year. His numbers were not terrible. No,
they weren't his MVP Diet numbers in Green Bay. But
if we have what twenty eight touchdowns eleven picks, still
completing a high percentage pass. So you can't tell me
that he's not a better quarterback than what they've had
over the last three or four years. So how are
(55:48):
they going to be worse? And then I say that,
and then I think, all right, Well, throwing the football
is only part of it. It's also going into that
locker room and commanding respect and being a leader, and
by definitional leader is some of that inspires others to follow.
Can Aaron Rodgers be that leader for the Pittsburgh Well?
Speaker 3 (56:10):
I think it can.
Speaker 4 (56:11):
And if you look at their schedule, I mean, if
you don't think the Steelers, if you think Mike Tomlin
this year is going to have his first losing season
ever with the Jets, the Seahawks, the Patriots, the Vikings,
and the Browns as their first five games. That's crazy talk.
(56:37):
Just think about those first five games the Jets. Okay,
are we expecting the Jets to come out and the
Jets don't have a quarterback? So we're expecting the Jets
to come out and beat the Steelers?
Speaker 5 (56:50):
All right?
Speaker 2 (56:51):
I want to get into your great NFL career because
you play, and we've had this discussion many times. You've played.
You played with a lot of quarterbacks. Yeah, and he
played with some good ones and some not so good ones.
But imagine you're a veteran and in walks Aaron Rodgers,
how do you handle that situation? Because he comes with
(57:13):
a lot of notoriety, he's had a first ballot Hall
of Fame career on the field, do you have questions
for him? How exactly as a veteran do you take
on And again, you're not like some you know, bottom
feed or team. I mean, you're a playoff team, you know,
and so obviously what you're hoping he's going to take
you in the next level. But do you engage with
(57:35):
Aaron Rodgers? Do you step back? How exactly do you
handle that if you're a veteran on that Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (57:40):
Steel especially if you're on the offensive side of the boy,
of course you engage. He's now the leader in the
face of the franchise offensively, right, So no, it's it's
a thank you. We finally got a quarterback who's had
some similance of success, who's been what four time.
Speaker 3 (57:59):
League VP, super Bowl champion.
Speaker 4 (58:04):
The experiment the dual quarterbacks we had last year, it
worked until it didn't work. So you were I would
expect to be in a better positions, especially given the
first five games that I just rattled off to you.
You're going against justin fields that you didn't want. You're
(58:27):
going against Sam Donald.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
That has Yeah, we don't know if the Sam Donald right,
we don't know.
Speaker 3 (58:35):
We don't know that guy. You're going against Drake May,
Drake May, Yes, and then you're going against j. J.
McCarthy and then Joe Flacco. This is perfect. Yes, so
I'm optimistic.
Speaker 4 (58:53):
Offensively, I'm optimistic, and yes, the league gave them some cupcakes.
Speaker 2 (58:58):
Think think about the we were going to that Cleveland
Brown schedule murderers role for the first six games. This
is not And then they hand Aaron Rodgers and the
Steelers a launching pad.
Speaker 4 (59:10):
And then you go to the Bengals. That's a division, right,
they don't have a defense. They don't have a defense.
Now that might be a shootout. You have to put
up some points. Then the Packers come to you. I
just talked about I'm not sure who Jordan Love is.
Speaker 2 (59:29):
Why why do you say that about Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (59:31):
Because he hasn't done anything to me.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Two years ago he sort of broke out and then
predictably he took a little bit of a step back.
Speaker 3 (59:38):
Now, just be mindful. Two years ago he broke out
the second.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
Half, well, that was the thing that he thought based
on that second half, and then he ran into a
huge playoff game against the Cowboys and.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
He ran into a setback. So that's exactly why.
Speaker 4 (59:53):
If he was on the same trajectory at the second
half of that first year starting his second year, we
wouldn't be having this conversation.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
They still made it to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
They still made it to the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
I'm not looking at the Green Bay Packers like, man,
we got to prepare for Jordan Love. I'm not there
because I haven't seen enough. And there's some young quarterbacks
like I'm a fan of Justin Herbert.
Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
Right, they'll stop right there, all right, Okay, I'm a
fan of Jim Harbaugh. Okay, Okay, his record speaks for himself.
The fact that he got that team to the playoffs
a year ago was a miracle. And then, of course
you had your quarterback throw four picks against the Houston
Texas through all year, the entire year.
Speaker 4 (01:00:38):
It happens. But what I will say is, you know,
you got a quarterback that can make every throw. You
have a quarterback on pace to have more yards at
this point in his career than any other quarterback in
league history. Do you feel the same way about Jordan Love?
Do you feel the same way about Jordan Love?
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
But I mean Justin Herbert, he's beginning to why, Phillip Rivers.
Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
Tell me why, though, give me his first four Tell
me why? And you know why, because we've talked excessively
about this coach that was.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Justin Herber's going, well, I know, and because he wants
to run the ball. I get that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
I mean he was you know, I know, I'm not
talking about harball. I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Oh Brandon Staley. Come on now, okay, but what did
Brandon Staley do?
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
Nothing?
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
No, no, no, no, no, Brandon Staley. Basically, I'll never
forget this game.
Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
We got a better camera angle. We're back.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Okay, Oh, there we go. We actually can see the game. Now,
there you go. They actually got a camera working. Must
have been some kind of technical problem. We're talking about
this A and M game against San Antonio, so I
took my boys. First time I went to SOFI Stadium
was a I believe it was a Thursday night game
between the Chargers and the Chiefs, and Brandon Staley was
(01:01:52):
the first year coach of that year and it made
no sense. He was trying to get his quarterback to
make plays instead of just taking a field goal. And
you know, going in on fourth down in his own
territory and all this, But his idea was, I got
this incredibly talented young quarterback, and I believe in him
that he can make these plays happen. And I think
(01:02:14):
he did a huge detriment to Herbert, who wasn't delivering droid.
I mean. And so when you think of his first
two years, offensive player, Rookie of the year, Pro Bowl starter,
not just Pro Bowl. He was voted the Pro Bowl
starting quarterback for the NFC thirty eight touchdowns that second year.
But the last couple of years his stats have regressed,
and a year ago he was almost really not part
(01:02:37):
of it. His numbers were down considerably. Now they started,
they didn't have a lot of receiver help or everything else.
I mean, I'm still you're on the fence. So Jordan Love,
I'm very much still on the fence on Joseph.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
Would you be interested in this if I were to
tell you, okay, and twenty twenty was his first year, Yes,
rookie quarterback, forty three hundred yards, thirty one touchdowns, right reception,
would you want that?
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Okay? Second second year, second year five thousand.
Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
Yards, Yes, thirty eight touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Fifteen interceptions. Would you be interested in that?
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Yes? Cool?
Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
Cool? Cool?
Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
What happened?
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Fourth year?
Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
Four thousand, forty seven hundred yards, twenty five touchdown dinner?
Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
Would you sign that?
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
How about two playoffs?
Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
Would you sign up for that? Well?
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
I would sign up with the numbers into championships.
Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
You know why when in each of those years I
just mentioned what was the problem with the whole team,
not him?
Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
What was the problem?
Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
You just so eloquently stated that they had a coach,
Brandon Staley, who had no business being a head coach
being a head coach, and they stayed with him despite
how good their quarterback was.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
Okay, so you can look back at this last year
because remember how the season started. Harbaugh was gonna do
Harball football, which is a run first offense, and we
didn't see a whole lot of Herbert. Herbert's numbers were down,
way down early in the year, and eventually he was
starting to bring him back. So are we going to
ever see the Herbert that we saw those first two
(01:04:14):
years where he's throwing for five thousand yards and thirty
five touchdowns? Does that work on a Jim Harbaught team?
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Oh? It does? But didn't they run out of receivers.
Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
Year, he had mcconkeye.
Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
That was the kid was, That's it, And so you
can't fault. And even with that, he's still threw for
almost four thousand yards twenty three touchdowns in three interceptions. Ye,
at a certain point, you gotta have options for the
young man. I'm taking him over Jordan Love any day,
just for the fact that and this is what really
(01:04:47):
ingratiated me with Justin Herbert.
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
His first start his rookie year came out of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
All right. On the other side, I'm going to propose
a trade for you, Okay, okay, and then I'm gonna
I'm anxiously your answer to that question. But first let's
find out what is trending right now. And well, Martin,
so sure, you see Alabama lose, you see Texas lose.
Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
You've done to this beautiful sport.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
None of it matters, but doesn't matter to you? What
do you think?
Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
I mean?
Speaker 7 (01:05:18):
It used to matter to me, But I watched a
team that lost to a seven and five team compete
for a national championship last year, and another team that
lost to it was it Eastern Southern No, Northern Illinois,
Northern Illinois.
Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
Yeah, so those two like yeah yeah at home.
Speaker 7 (01:05:34):
These teams were still eligible to complete to compete.
Speaker 5 (01:05:38):
For the Texas.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
So you know what, you get bad teams that you know,
creep into the playoffs and they might get on a roll.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
Right.
Speaker 7 (01:05:44):
Yes, college football used to be you could be a
really good team and not make the playoffs. It's it's
like the Baseball Hall of Fame. It's like, look at
all these great players who aren't in the Baseball Hall
of Fame, and then you look at the NBA or
Pro Basketball Hall of Fame and it's like everybody's in here.
It doesn't matter anymore. So congratulations, you've ruined it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Yeah, okay, but you're gonna brighten our day by telling
us about all the things happening. I'm anxious for this
LSU game USC kicking off their schedule against powerful Georgia State.
I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
I am looking forward to watching this LSU Clemson game.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Oh yes, LSU.
Speaker 7 (01:06:18):
Honestly in years past, I know they're generally more of
a nine to ten win program historically than a twelve
to thirteen win program historically, but I feel like they
scheduled these games are I've years before the playoff was
the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
I'm watching LSU go up to Wisconsin and lose.
Speaker 2 (01:06:34):
All I know is this, Brian Kelly's three predecessors all
won a national championship at LSU.
Speaker 7 (01:06:39):
They did, all of them. What about Steve Sharkisian? How's
he doing in that in that category? Because I was
told that last year. You know, he was, you know,
right there knocking on the door college football playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
We thought Sark was done.
Speaker 7 (01:06:51):
No, I'm saying, well, then he came back EXAs Sark
because you know he just had arch Manning waiting in
the wings. Yeah, you know he arch waited his turn. Well,
his turn was today.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
How'd that go?
Speaker 7 (01:07:02):
Four turnover on downs, two of them in a REDGI
on eight threw a pick. Ohio State gets to win
fourteen to seven over the number one ranked Texas Longhorns.
Ohio State the third ranked team in the nation, and
Ohio State, I mean, played a pretty clean game, but
I would say.
Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
Offensively was not very explosive. Heis been hopeful.
Speaker 7 (01:07:19):
Jeremiah Smith had six sketches for forty three yards. Pretty
much everywhere else was pretty much a blowout.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
As we go through it. The other game of note.
Speaker 7 (01:07:28):
Florida State upsetting eighth ranked Alabama thirty one to seventeen.
That much the fourth time I believe that Kaitlyn de
Bor has lost as a fourteen point favorite in Alabama.
Speaker 3 (01:07:39):
He's on the seat seed. It's warming up.
Speaker 7 (01:07:43):
Penn State with a forty six to eleven win over
Nevada for the second ranked team in the nation, third
ranked until just told you beat Texas Georgia forty five
to seven over Marshall, Iowa State with a fifty five
to seven win over South Dakota, Oregon in a fifty
nine to thirteen game against months Yna State, which was
not close as the final score would suggest. Believe it
(01:08:03):
or not, Tennessee with a forty five to twenty six
win over Syracuse. Indiana with a thirteen point win over
Old Dominion. The Fernando Mendoza calc Transfer make his debut
for kurtz Signetti's Indiana Hoosiers, who also had an opportunity
to compete for the national championship last year.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
That was cool.
Speaker 7 (01:08:21):
Texas A and I with a seven to nothing lead
over at Gutsa with seven minutes left in the first quarter.
Kansas State leeds North Dakota nine, nine to seven extra
point pending. Davy Johnson just threw a forty four yard
touchdown pass. Florida with a fourteen to nothing lead over
Long Island University and Oklahoma with a twenty one to
nothing lead over Illinois State. John Mattier making his first
(01:08:45):
start as a transfer quarterback for the Sooners. He they
have twenty one points going into the half. My prediction,
DJ Lagway is going to climb those Heisman odds. Really
as Arch Manning catapults for all right.
Speaker 2 (01:08:59):
Well, I'm going to do my Iceman updates as I
always do, you know, and then weeks ahead, so stay tuned.
Speaker 7 (01:09:03):
From if you say Arch I'm running in there and
I'm turning off your microphone and the.
Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
Arch Manning Show. Everything's based on what you do this year.
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
Trust me, no hype, nothing the next three games, that
fifth week of the season, he's gonna in his top three.
I know, I know, because it's all about what happened
in this game.
Speaker 7 (01:09:21):
But none of it has ever mattered about this game
for ours, Manning's all have been the ghost of Mannings
past batime.
Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
Thank you very much, Martin. By the way, let me
correct myself. They're not playing Georgia State US he's playing
Missouri State. I'm confused because they have a game coming
up against Georgia Southern eventually, yes, in this season. Uh
so that game is kicking off right now. Once again,
we are here doing our thing in the Fox Sports
Radio studios. Don't forget after the show. The podcast is
(01:09:47):
going up. So if you miss any of today's show,
be sure to check out the podcast. Search Fox Sports
Radio wherever you get your podcasts, and follow review the podcast,
give it five stars. Again, just search Fox Sports Radio
wherever you get your podcasts. You'll see today show posted
right after we get off the air. All right, So
you professed your love for Justin Hurt.
Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
I do.
Speaker 4 (01:10:07):
I like it because when he was tapped on the
shoulder as a rookie because the training staff punctured Tyrod
Taylor's lung going up against Kansas City with no first
team practice reps, he went out there and duled and
I believe they lost in overtime, not his fault, and
I was like, oh, he has something. And then he
(01:10:29):
proceeded to continue to excel and I was like, oh,
to me, had the next year was better?
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
All right, So I want to propose a trade team. Okay,
it's a swap into quarterbacks. Oh all right, would you
trade if you're the Philadelphia Eagles Jalen Hurts straight up
for Justin Herbert today? If the Chargers offered you Justin
(01:11:02):
Herbert straight up for Jalen Hurts, super Bowl champion Eagles,
would you make that trade today?
Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
Yep?
Speaker 4 (01:11:10):
Okay, So guess who. Guess who would be a board?
Guess who would love that?
Speaker 3 (01:11:15):
Take it out. I'll give you one. No, no, no, I'll
give you one player who would be like, yes, uh
what any one? Other were reads he reads on during
the game because he feels that he's not needed.
Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
And that is.
Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
Antonio Brown. Not Antonio Brown? What's uh? Aj Brown?
Speaker 8 (01:11:36):
A J?
Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
Brown?
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
All right? So let me ask you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
You don't think he would want that?
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Okay, I'm just asking all right. Well, the reason I
mentioned that is so we have been getting into these
discussions about NFL quarterbacks, and I think you would agree
with me. If you're talking about four quarterbacks that stand
out from the pack. You have Mahomes, yep, you have
Josh Allen, you have Lamar Jackson, you have Joe Burrow.
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
They definitely stand out.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Okay, So those four guys stand out So we had
this round table on our Sunday show. All right, so
if those are the clearly top four, who's your number five?
And everybody raised their hand and pretty much had the
same One person did say Justin Herbert. Everyone else said
Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
Jalen Hurts, I mean, I wouldn't be my number five.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
So how do you evaluate Jalen hurts career? Who had
he not dropped a ball just randomly dropped the ball
in a super Bowl, could be a time Super Bowl champion.
And if you look at him, he outplayed Mahomes in
both those games had to head, So why would you
not Jalen Hurts In the conversation.
Speaker 4 (01:12:49):
Of Jalen Hurts, I think he is a tremendous I
loved him every since that debaco happened at Alabama.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
You and I both because the way he handled it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
I'm like, this is a leader, this is your.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
He's mature beyond his ears. I remember when he was drafted,
I said, give me a ceiling on this guy, you
know before he played, because that's what you're doing. You're
trying to project a guy. What's the ceiling? And people
had a hard time and not.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
A natural thrower of the football in a passing league. Right,
But why the Philadelphia Eagles were the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
I'll give you one guess. You have a guess. One
guess why he Well, okay, he had a historic he
did not a good year, but ja've already been to
a super Bowl. They won a game. They won a
game with eighty yards passing.
Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
Yeah, their best receiver out of protests was reading literature
during the football game on the bench. And then it
turned into this whole thing. Well, I do it all
the time. You don't, but that goes to show you.
Then all the things they're not friends. They all of
(01:13:58):
that happened because he's not a prolific throw of the football,
but he is the leader of that is the leader,
without a doubt, hands down the leader. Thank goodness, say
Kwan BARTI, thank you Giants for being such an franchise.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
The way you can do you can let your leader
and your guy go right down the freeway.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
All right, So who's your number five quarterback?
Speaker 4 (01:14:27):
My number five quarterback? Mmm, that's a good question. My
number five quarterback would be.
Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
This is how we were. We're all sitting around and
all said.
Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
I'm just going through the teams. I'm like, okay, okay,
I don't want to put Sam up there. I don't
know who Sam is, even though he had a terrific
Jared Goff.
Speaker 3 (01:14:54):
Jared Goff is Jaden Daniels there for you? Not yet?
I need one. I need I need a little bit
more for a j because remember Stroud with Matthew Stafford.
Matthew Stafford is my five.
Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
Well, you can't, no, no, no, I've said I had
become a Matthew Stafford fan. I wasn't always.
Speaker 3 (01:15:13):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
One of the most deceiving stats was his fourth quarter comebacks.
And I'm like, he had to Australian and every fourth quarter,
you know, I mean, how many times did Tom Brady
have a chance to actually have a fourth quarter comeback?
You know? So that was always a deceiving stat to me. No,
but he's I mean that that disc problem. I mean,
it's one thing that was a problem. When you're talking
(01:15:34):
about a.
Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
Disc problem, I have a disc problem.
Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
How's that working for working?
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
And I have a problem. As we say, you.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
Retired from the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
Oh yeah, and guess what. I was on that team
with Matthew Stafford his rookie year in Detroit.
Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
Oh my god, he's he's been around for a while.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
Yeah, he's been around for a while.
Speaker 4 (01:15:51):
But I'm happy for him because he got a chance
to get out of there and had instant success that.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Got the show.
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
I'm a Matthew Stafford. I said this, so he will
be five. If Matthew Stafford is healthy. The Rams to
me are the biggest challenger to the Eagles in the
NFC right now. They are my number tie in the
NFC behind the Eagles with big if a healthy Matthew Stafford.
All right, coming up, what are we going to see
(01:16:19):
once we get the NFL started? What's going to happen
with the Eagles and the Cowboys? And how about a
game in Brazil? Why are they playing in Brazil? We'll
break it down for you. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
Steve harmin E from Salam Fox Sports Saturday, once again
live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. I want to
(01:16:41):
thank our crew here today. Martin doing a great job
like a happy married man. It's a new life for him.
Speaker 3 (01:16:49):
New life is great.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
He's going to have a great life ahead. Mary Mack
reunited today. Mary Mack, I've been sort of shuffling back
and forth, Mary, Mary, and of course he and are
brilliant producer. He's decked out, he's brilliant. Well, well, he's
done a lot of good things. But he's a little
(01:17:14):
anxious now that his beloved Trojans are losing to Missouri State.
Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
Good luck, good luck this year, Bud.
Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
I'm sweating this one out.
Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
Yeah, I don't know if.
Speaker 4 (01:17:24):
You saw Thursday night football with San Diego State running
through Stony Brook.
Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Nothing forty two, then nothing, he take any win.
Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
Win, any win, three to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
I'm in Yeah, I'm with you on that one. No
style points necessary, no just win.
Speaker 5 (01:17:44):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
Speaking of no style points when it comes to the NFL,
there's definitely no stop points. It's all about winning or losing.
Just win, baby, it's my old boss used to tell me.
All right, So what are you expecting on Thursday with
the Eagles opening up the schedule against Dallas Dallas Mavericks
a massacred. I'm not going to say Mavericks because they
said goodbye to Luca and now the Cowboys get said
(01:18:08):
fame own suicide.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Why have you?
Speaker 4 (01:18:10):
It's unbelievable, right, I mean, they can't and I'm talking
sports suicide, not actual suicide.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
So the Eagles are seven and a half point favorites.
Right now, does that sound like they.
Speaker 3 (01:18:20):
Win by fifteen points?
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
They should, right fifteen? That seemed like easy money.
Speaker 3 (01:18:24):
Win by fifteen points.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
I will say this though before I did not expect
Micah Parsons to exit. I did not, But I see
a year ago and you know we have our sheet
we fill out here at Fox Sports. Right, everyone makes
their preseason predictions. Last year, my predicted Super Bowl winner
was the Dallas Cowboys. That's who I predicted before last
(01:18:48):
season would win the Super Bowl. And the reason I
said that they were coming off what three straight twelve
win season, and I felt like the football gods are
going to finally give them one. They're gonna they're gonna have.
Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
After all, Jerry's own the team, He's still running things, right,
So I was.
Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
Thinking after last year's debacle that you know what, at
some point here, even though the Cowboys seemingly are doing
all the wrong things, something positive is going to happen
for them. Is it conceivable to you without Micah.
Speaker 3 (01:19:21):
Parks that they got better? Is that what you're trying
to say?
Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
Well, I mean, can you still project them as a
team that could actually make the playoffs. No believe in
Dak Prescott in that division? Well in that division, are
you believer in the Commanders? Like the Commanders, they're not
going to have. You don't see Jade Daniels doing what CJ.
Stroud did where he takes a step back his second year.
Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
The funny thing is keep people keep saying c J.
Stroud took the step back and he's stistically he got
them to the exact same spot.
Speaker 3 (01:19:50):
That is correct, he did his rookie year. I'll take that.
So if Jay Daniels.
Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
Takes a step back statistically and they end up in
the NFC Championship Game, again, is that a step back?
Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
Is it a positive for the NFL to have a
game in Brazil?
Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:20:10):
No, number one, because no one cares about football in
Brazil things and that travel is way too tough for
these players to do. It's just not it's not okay.
Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
Did you watch that Kansas State Iowa State game in Dublin.
Remember they started the Dublin game with Notre Dame, so
it makes sense, you know, the fighting average Dublin, Ireland.
And they were interviewing people before the game like you know, uh,
You're like What do you think anyone in Dublin could
identify where the states of Iowa or Kansas hang? No, no,
why are you? What is the point? We have American football.
(01:20:42):
The rest of the world has football that we call soccer.
We have American football.
Speaker 5 (01:20:47):
We don't need to be.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
International with our game. Why is a game being played
in Brazil because.
Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
The NFL is on a global march to die.
Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
Forget the global mark moor.
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
After they die, there's more money that we had out there.
Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
You're not basketball, you're not baseball. Get your money, all right.
Great stuff is always always brother, always all right, keep
it right here. Much more coming up on Fox Sports Radio.
