Speaker 1 (00:30):
VJ. We did shows back in the day. Yeah, a
lot of them.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
A lot of those shows way back in the day.
It's great to have you here today on a very
busy Sunday. We got a lot to get to coming
up a little bit later on the show. JP Morosi,
John Paul It's gonna be join us. It's gonna talk
a little MLB as we get ready for the start
of the baseball season. We got a lot of NFL
news we're gonna get to over the course of the
show today. The domino effect of all these quarterbacks and
(00:55):
who's gonna end up. Were got a little inside on
a couple of big names on where they should end
up and will end up.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
We'll get to that as well, But I want to start.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
We got a lot of NBA news to get to
and I was mentioning this yesterday on my show with
Manse that the NBA, after the debacle that was the
All Star weekend, VJ has right of the ship. They
have found a way now to get in the news. Yesterday,
of course, the Celtics took care of business against the Lakers,
(01:28):
but the Luka Doncic trade has been good for the Lakers.
When the Lakers are good, that's good for the NBA.
You want your star franchises to be relevant. You want
Steph Curry to be relevant. And now that Jimmy Butler's
at Golden State, they are relevant. But this whole Lebron
James situation, and by the way, it looks like he's
going to be out a couple of weeks not good
(01:48):
news for the Lakers because he's definitely going to be
out of these next three games that they're gonna have
on the road. Tough test for the Lakers right now.
But the stephen A. Smith situation with Lebron, I was
there give us a little insight because I'm sitting there
watching this thinking to myself, Okay, I know stephen A.
We've done some shows in the past. I mean stephen
(02:10):
A is one way off camera, another way on camera.
I get that whole shtick. A lot of people do
that in this industry. But the idea that Lebron would
do that publicly instead of privately, because you know he
has stephen A. Smith's number. It's not like he doesn't
know stephen A.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Smith.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
He could have done this anywhere. What was your observation, VJ,
and why did this transpire? What was the message that
Lebron was trying to deliver doing this in a public forum?
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Well, its always man, welcome everybody, Fox Sports Sunday. This
is new for me. I'm noally saying Fox Sports side
of j Berner hus get a big vanilla funny to
big vanilla sports talk poppy and with you man, First
of all, glad you're safe, Glad you're okay.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I'm sorry about last night. I don't worry about it.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Well, Fender Benner, I show you the pictures and me
and Arnie jumped on man at last minute. We uh,
you know that's what you gotta do in this business, right,
You gotta with quarterbacks. We got to call audibles. You know,
you want to call audibles when the linebacker is shifting
or the safety drops down, that slants. Not that slant's
not there, you gotta call something else. So the slant
one in there we called another place. So good to
have you back, all right. So I'm at the game
the other night covering for Fox Sports Radio, for Vessel
(03:18):
Sports and Fan and TV other you know, freelance networks
that I worked for, and we see we could see
it browing because people were the rumblings were in the
arena during the pregame. Stephen A's there, steven A's course out.
I go to say, what's up to uh, Floyd Mayweather.
Steven A's standing right there with him. Someone leans in
the me was like, yeah, I think something's popping off
the night. Lebron's out there warming up and he's got
his eyes pierced over.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
All right, and just to slow down for a second
because we know this about steven A.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Smith.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
He is a diehard Knicks fan. Yes, absolutely, I mean
so I mean said yes, he.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Was there, Yes, yeah, John McEnroe, New Yorker was there
like it was Smith when he was there because he
is a devout. Yes, it's a Thursday nineteen, he naturally
televised game, so all the stars were oute. Stephen A,
is there so one leans into me, not gonna put
his name out there. He trusted me, or trust him?
He said, look at Lebron. Lebron's warming up, and he
(04:09):
just his eyes, his eyes just keep cutting over there.
And I'm like, okay, I gotta stay course side a
little longer than I normally do before I head up
to the press box. But you can see this thing, Bruin.
You can see this thing coming, so I'll go here
with it. Stephen A tells a story about when Kobe
Bryant called him and left him a voicemail. You guys
have all heard this clip and seen this clip. That's
the way you handle it. He called a left from
(04:29):
Forrsemanth said, Hey, you know, bleep be bleap when you
get this, when you get this message, call me and
don't let too much time go by before you call
me with that that bleep bleak you was just saying
on TV if you are going to push your son
on everybody alive and tweet a year and a half
(04:51):
or two years ago that he was better than half
the players in the NBAB This is when he was
in high school.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yes, second team All league is senior year. Absolutely, second
team All league and yet promoted. He has a McDonald's
all a man.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Absolutely, he wasn't even the fourth best player on that team.
I saw Saric Canyon with my own eyes. I went
saw him against Nordre Dame Academy. I saw him against Shamana,
and I saw him against Birmingham. He averaged eight points. Again. Absolutely,
And this is a team that had Mickey Williams. This
team has Scottie Pip the son, Kenya Martin son's on
this team. His team's loaded guys. Okay. And if you're
(05:22):
gonna go out and you're gonna do that, okay, fine.
I was all for LaVar Ball, right, I was all
for LaVar Ball. These are his sons. Did I think
that I think the baby boy was better than Steph. No,
But he thought to say it because that's his son.
He's promoting his son. He wants to get him into
the league. He wanted to get him drafted today. He
wanted a Lonzo to be drafted to the Lakers. He
said it was gonna happen. It happened. He said that
(05:42):
Mellow was gonna be the best one. Remember used to say,
my baby boy, when you see my baby boy, he
gonna be the best. Ride about it. He was right
about that. He's the best one out of the Ball brothers.
And then once his kids made it. You know what
Lvar Ball did, he faded the black. Have you heard
from him in the last year and a half.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
No, although he's had a serious hump.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yes, absolutely well that the mother at the time did too.
Remember she was fighting cancer at the time too. So
it's if you're going to do that, okay, when you
get when you get your son where you're what he's
trying to be, it's okay to peel back. Kenya Martin
was on the Gilbert Arenas podcast. He talked about the
same thing about John Morant's dad. It's like your son
has made it. Man, sit down, and he was very
vocal and very If you guys haven't seen this clip
(06:22):
on the Gilbert A. Reenas podcast with Kenyon Martin talking
about stuff like this, go look at it. It's not
just radio guys, TV guys haters. No, we're just looking
at it. Like you told us all these things, we
know they weren't true. Fine, got them drafted. Then got
them a guaranteed eight million dollar contract. Show me the
last time the fifty fifth overall picking the NBA a
second round pick gets a guaranteed eight million dollar contract.
(06:44):
But guess what, that's fine. I'm a dad of a son,
so I get I sat right here and said, listen,
I got no problem with with with with hooking up
your son. I have a company. One day my son
comes in. No, you can't get an executive job at first,
but I'm not putting my son in the mail room.
You know what I'm saying. You're gonna be on the
kind of in the middle, and if anybody got a
problem with it, you can go find another job because
I'm the CEO and owner and this is my son.
(07:06):
But now it's to the point, your son'sday professional basketball player.
We are allowed to analyze him. We are allowed to
talk about what we see on the core averaging a point.
Right now, he's not getting any burn and at the
end of the day, he's probably taken a spot from
somebody else that you probably need to sign and bring in.
The Williams deal fell through. They were gonna move off
(07:28):
of players like dalk connect. Did that look like a
smart idea. Now, Dalk connect comes back nineteen points last
week against the Clippers, hits five threes the other night,
didn't play as well as he did, but handle the ball,
play some great defense, has some stills late in the
game him and Luca that kind of kept the Knicks
from really winning that game. So now you're going to
approach the biggest sports talk name in the business right now,
(07:49):
probably other than Colin Cowherd, our colleague here at Fox
Sports Radio. And if it just if you go back
and watch the video, it it felt so Lebron, let
me make a show, let me put it out there.
You watch him at he's also he looks around in
the crowd to see that you know, no, no, no,
you're well aware.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
And by the way, even the camera angles look very stage.
Yes for the situation. Here's the thing about a VJ.
I one hundred percent agree. But here's where I cut
in on the old idea of a dad trying to
do whatever he can. And because Lebron is in such
a unique situation in his power base in the NBA,
as we all saw in the war room of the
(08:26):
Lakers when they made the BROWNNY selection, they were high
fivy why because it meant that lebron was going to
excite the extension to his track. So that's when they
knew it wasn't about, hey, Wow, we got Bronnie James. Yeah,
it means we're going to fail the second round. We
are going to keep Lebron. Look, I don't know if
there's any harm. The Lakers obviously had had a very
good season Jj Reddick in many ways as exceeded expectations,
(08:50):
and they had a coach.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Of the team.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
He's done a very good job job and Bronnie's presence
really hasn't had any impact one way or the other.
But here's where I would step in as a fall
of sons, you know, well into their twenties now looking
for their own path in life. I don't you need
to if you're going to bring Brownie into the adult world,
(09:13):
which is the NBA, then you need to have him
answer for himself. You can't be daddy there to defit.
It's a bad look for Bronnie. I mean, I feel
like so many times I feel sorry for Bronnie, like
he's been thrust into this situation because of his father,
you know. On this idea, I mean, it should have
(09:34):
just ended the first game. You know, they took the
court together. They made NBA history. Let the kid go
off to the G league. And yeah, he keeps traveling
with a team a couple of garbage times. The second
he gets into the game, he will fire up shots immediately.
But this is where as a dad, I don't want
my dad, who is my teammate and now a fellow
(09:56):
NBA player, crying to a member of the media that
somehow he's being unfair to me. I can speak for myself, Dad,
I don't need you to essentially embarrass me by having
to defend me because a media member is critical of
my presence on this team.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
You're making me look bad. Now.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
I know Bron he's never gonna say this to his father,
But as a father, I know how my sons would
feel about that, and they would say, Dad, I can.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Handle my own If.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
You're going to drag him into the adult world that
is the NBA, then you need to have him handle
his own business.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Yeah. And not only that, I will add this, Lebron James,
whether you like him or not, he has such a
status that if you if you really want to have
this conversation, First of all, the whole dad thing. Guys,
let's throw this away. This is that's this, this is
a bs, this is flip flaming fluff, This is crap.
This ain't have nothing to do about Lebron being a dad.
And I was disappointed that Steven A went on his
podcast and took the notion of that was a father
(11:02):
that walked up to me last night. No, it was not.
It was Lebron James who just doesn't want anybody to
criticize him and wanted to try to make a message
or send a message. This whole thing really got blown
out of proportion.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
But Stephen A was in a precarious situation. He does
not want to alienate Lebron James. Look at not all
due respect to stephen A.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Smith. His bread and butter is the NBA, not by
his words, and Lebron James can't mess up. Stephen A.
Smith is money in his car, in his career right now,
he's got the new deal with ESPN, he's staying, he's
good money. The NBA says bread and butter. Yeah, but
the NBA is not gonna tell him to go away
because Lebron and if you're gonna be doing if you're
involved with the NBA. You need to be in the
right position. With Lebron James. I totally disagree with that,
(11:41):
because he's gonna be gone one day and Steven A.
Smith is still gonna be doing it. Hold on a second,
hold that is he really gonna be gone.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
There's a reason why Lebron James at age forty is
suddenly playing at first team all NBA level.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
He's getting better, not worse. How is this possible?
Speaker 2 (11:59):
How do the Lebron Jamess and the Tom Brady's of
the world. How do these guys extend their careers and
seemingly get better with age?
Speaker 1 (12:07):
James Harrison, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
There was a guy named Barry Bonds that did the
same thing back in the day, and a guy named
Roger Clemens that kept winning games well into his very
thirty seven years old. Thirty seven and then one for view.
How do these guys do it? Is it modern medicine
or is it something else? Water streak it down for you.

(13:13):
pop up at the top of your screen. One of
the big stories that we've seen over the last I
don't know, ten fifteen years as far as professional sports
is concerned, is the extended careers of athletes, not just
sort of you know, trying to hang on for another paycheck.
(13:33):
You know, you go way back to the days of
like Willie May still playing for the Mets and falling
down in the nineteen seventy three World Series, or you know,
you know what I'm talking about, you know, Joe Namath
trying to get one more year in the NFL as
the quarterback of the Rams actually.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Went to the Smith with the Cardinals EMTT Smith the Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
The idea was, Hey, and I've always said this and Vjay,
since I had that opportunity to work for the Raiders
and being around professional athletes twenty four to seven, I
appreciate the fact as a non athlete that you would
literally have to rip their uniform off of me. I'm
going to extend this thing as long as I possibly can't.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
I get all that, but that's not what's happening now. Now.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
What's happening is guys at an age when they should
be playing out the string are now better than ever.
And I'm looking at Lebron James, I was watching. I
was just looking at Lebron the other day. That receding
hairline he had a few years ago gone, The hair's back.
There's not a speck of gray in that beard. That
(14:39):
beard is solid right now.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
That's just for men. I know about that.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
And I'm watching him, and I'm looking at him and
I'm literally thinking to myself, he actually looks younger now
than he did five years ago, which was the same
phenomenon of Tom Brady. Tom Brady was like Benjamin Button,
like they were getting younger and older.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
I've been accused of that over the years, but that's okay.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
But the bottom line here is is that something is
going on. And what's amazing to me is in baseball,
where the Baseball Writers' Association had made their mission to
expel all the great players that deservely had Hall of
Fame careers, to expel them from Hall of Fame consideration
because of their use of peds, whether it was Bond's
(15:25):
or Clemens or a Rod or Many Ramirez or Mark
mcgu Mark McGuire or Sammy Sosa, whoever, any hint of
pdpds and you're out of the Hall of Fame. This
seems to be ignored in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
In the NBA, I don't know what.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Cocktail a guy like Lebron James is using too. At
age forty, still play thirty seven minutes a night, put
up first team All NBA numbers, no slow down in
his game, If anything, he's better now than he was
two or three years ago.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
So do you have a theory on this, VJ.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Is it just the sign of the times, good nutrition,
or are NFL and NBA players going down the same
path The Major League Baseball players were accused of and
admonished for all those years ago.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
I'll say this, I can only go by the stories
that are out and then I'm a guy in sports
talk radio. I go with my gut sometimes because you know,
as you know, you can't always believe the reports, right,
Like there's always these reports, Like a few weeks ago,
there was a report from Shams that Lebron's probably gonna
miss the next two games because they were coming off
(16:37):
the All Star break, right, and if he had sat
those two against lesser teams, which were the Hornets and
somebody I forget the Hornet, just two hundred and five
hundred teams, that it would have given up a total
of nine days of rust. And it sounded like a
good plan. And those are the reports, this is what
they're looking to do. That was at about three point thirty.
I go down to Crypto and I, you know, position
myself in the press box to cover the team and
cover the game and out sprints Lebron James. There goes
(17:00):
that report because if there was any really shot he's
gonna miss those two games, he would have definitely sat
against the fourteen win Hornets, right, a game in which
they lost yeah, rugly Hillamela had a great LaMelo had
a great fourth quarter. He just he just took over
the game. Lucas and nobody, nobody could guard him. Luca
was one of nine from three that night. I think
it was three of fifteen or sixteen.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Which question what was he during during the All Star break?
Were you're working on your game and you're shot after
getting a little rusty or.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
He's been out since court?
Speaker 2 (17:28):
He actually admitted after that game, he says, Yeah, I'm
still trying to take in what happened here, and I
was just sort of like taking some time to sort of,
you know, gather my thoughts about this.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Deal and and that if I could just swing to
that really quick. That part, I believe it is true
because that is the talk among journalists and communists and
to beat writers in the TV people in the press
box room win. Once a player leaves and the PR
person leaves, we get the chattering, right you, you've been
in these rules before. I'm not I'm not breaking news
to you. And the talk has been man up with Luca.
But the talk lately is okay. You can see he's
(17:58):
starting to settle in. I got a chance to get
a question into Luca the other night, and I asked
him that the more demonstrative Lucas seems to be back
screaming at the opposed bitch, hitting three pointers, talking trash
like do you kind of feel it feels organic like
it was.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Taking Paul to the next level. Yeah, bitching and moaning
about calls like Luca.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Well, Luca got a tech the other night for it.
You gotta tech it.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
By the way, he could have got in the second
tech because he slammed the basketball down on the court.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah. Well he walked away with it and they gave
the Knicks a delay a game earlier in the game
for that same thing. Brunton, the Thibodeau. Everybody goes but listening,
hold on, yeah, that's a team and I and I'm
in a press, but I go, he better be careful
because he gets another tech, he's kicked, he's out of
the game. It's not about a minute and a half left,
uh in that game. So but back to back to
(18:46):
the Lebron thing. We can all have speculation, but I
think smart people know that Father Time beats nobody, to
the point where Lebron made a commercial with Aquaman last
year about Father Time he's purposely almost shoving it in
our face. They made it was a commercial Aquaman Jason
Momol played Father Time and they're playing Lebron's backyard. Lebron's
(19:09):
beating and it's beating them. Right. So when you when
you just add everything up, the totality, every everything is,
everyone's gonna have their speculation. There. We know all about
the reports down in Miami. We all know about the reports.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Well no, no, no, not everyone knows the reports. Fill
those that don't know. I mean, you can't just say, oh,
everyone knows about it. People are like, what are you
talking about? Well, because no, no, no, no, you'll never assume
people know anything.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Well, there's also Google. Okay, there's also Google and YouTube,
and there's c people don't necessarily there's search inches to it. Listen,
I'll put a cap on it like this. Do I
believe a forty year old gets better?
Speaker 4 (19:52):
No?
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Do I believe a forty year old athletes gets faster,
jumps higher?
Speaker 2 (19:55):
No?
Speaker 1 (19:55):
There's been breaks taking and now there's this. He's gonna
miss the next one to two weeks because of this
growing strain. Okay, this growing I was just there Thursday night.
I didn't see a groin strain. I watched the Laker
cli Celta game last night. I'm trying to see where
this growing strain is. If it's a low management thing,
Lobrono low managed for like three or four days. He's
not gonna lowd manage for a week or two. So
(20:17):
that's only gonna race speculation. We noticed some older athletes
have done certain things to try to hold on into
the end. But I guess, I mean, at the end
of the day, man, I guess we have to be
caught with the smoke ging gun. I'll throw two names
out there, Marion Jones, Lance Armstrong.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Right, don't get me started here, because down to the end, though,
right down to the end, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Down to the end. And then Marion Jones. She did
an interview where she talked about when she was being investigated,
how there's like five or six people around her like
this where this need to.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Remember her husband was the guy that was the masterminded exactly.
Look back in the day when that was both of
those were happened. I was working with my beloved friend
Victor brick Jacobs. Guy doesn't want to believe any negative
about anyone. I mean, he was such a stock supporter
Lance arms Strong and I go.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Vic, let's stop.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Everybody is using his protege got busted for it and
lost the Tour de France. You're telling me he's the
only guy not doing that, And that's my whole thing
about Pedes. Look, I take a step back simply as
a sports fan. Does it really bother me if athletes
use performance enhancing drugs?
Speaker 1 (21:29):
And my answer is no. I would say it is.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Critical to educate young people in the possible ramifications of
using performance enhancing drugs. We still don't know the full ramifications.
We're going to find out in decades ahead.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
That is one thing.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
But as far as a professional athlete is concerned, who
is a paid entertainer? So you look at actors, you
look at actresses, they use pds. We see these action
hero guys, right, they did all before and after of
these actors and they get all shredded up.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Now how that work because they're doing their pushups?
Speaker 2 (22:09):
You'd sit up you Jack, absolutely, Jack, and I don't
have a problem with that because they're portraying a character.
And so I want to see Lebron James as long
as I can. I want to see Steph Curray. I
want to see the great stars extend their careers.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
I'm all for it, and I.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Don't have a problem with them using performance enhancing drugs.
Let's keep it up front, let's all. Let's just it's
sort of like nil.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Right.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
For years and years and years, we knew that these
college athletes were getting compensated with money under the table.
Right now it's above board, there's no difference. They're still
getting paid. Now they're even making more. Let's get let's
get clear on this PD thing. If you are a
professional athlete, you are adult, you are paid entertainer, and
you choose to use performance enhancing drugs to extend your
(23:06):
career or enhance your career, just be up front. Help
them out, use them bigger, stronger, faster. Oh, I absolutely
no problems. I hold that. I hold that'd let us
come back to that. Let's go tomorrow. But let's find
out what is trending right now. Now here's someone that
(23:27):
doesn't need any performance enhancing drugs because she's a she's
a Bob Burget, a volleyball star, she is a multi sports.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
On the asses. I'm with you, though, Steve, I'm all
for it.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Thank you, Stronger faster, but just keep be honest about it,
like everyone.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Can do it.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
Then if you want to put your body through that,
by all means.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Instead of having to guess who is doing it right,
because it's happening. Because in the Baseball Hall of Fame,
there are several guys that are in the Hall of
Fame that definitely did peds and we decided to put
them in that exclude others because you're like, well, it
looks like they did it. Okay, it just drives me
absolutely nuts.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
I'm gonna let you do your update. If we're gonna
come back to this, dove Da, I can't believe what
I'm here.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Okay, Well I'm glad you can't, because I will. I
will continue all hard. I had not changed my tune
on this.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
I have to take Monzi's time, Manzi.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Fellas, we'll start in the NFL. I guess I expected this,
but Brown Star pass rusher Miles Garrett has agreed to
a four year, one hundred and sixty million dollar extension
with one hundred and twenty three million dollars guaranteed, making
him the highest pay non quarterback in NFL history. The
Bills released eight time Pro Bowl pass rusher Von Miller
today to clear salary cap space, but both parties are
(24:39):
reportedly open to Miller returning to the Bills.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Linebacker Nick Bolton.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
Is re signing with the Chiefs on a three year,
forty five million dollars deal. In the NBA, you guys
were just talking about it. Lebron James expected to miss
one to two weeks due to that strained left growing
that he suffered in last night's loss at Boston. Right
now in the NBA, Nicola Jokic fifteen points, nine reb bound,
Shay Gill, just Alexander twenty three points, and the Thunder
(25:03):
are topping the Nuggets seventy two to sixty four early
in the third quarter. In men's college hoops, guys, High Point,
a school in North Carolina competing in the Big South Conference,
just won the championship. They are aheaded to the dance
for the first time ever.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Yeah, how exciting is that? Very exciting? I have two
friends that graduated.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Really very exciting. They are headed to the NCAA tournament.
Good for you guys. In baseball, Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez
will undergo surgery on his broken left wrist. He's gonna
miss six to eight weeks.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Back to you guys, Hi Monsie, thank you very very much. Again,
this is Fox Sports Sunday, Hartman Husky with you. We
are live from the Thai Iraq dot Com studios. By
the way, a reminder a week from today selection Sunday. Yeah,
we are getting ready to get the brackets out and
get ready for March madness. I can't wait for that,
all right. So I have made it clear. And by
(26:01):
the way, this is not new. I have talked about
this for years and years and years. Is that you
are a paid entertainer and I want you to be
the absolute best you can be, bigger, stronger, faster.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
I'm all for it. I just wanted.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Above board everybody aware of it when you are doing it,
instead of the secrecy that is clouded who is and
who isn't using performance enhancing drugs. But you seem to
have a different take on this feature.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
No, I have a major different take. Number one. I'm
surprised to hear not you. I was surprised mostly to
hear MANSI agree with it, all right. So, first of all,
we teach children from the time they start playing sports
about integrity, about working hard, about being a good teammate
about being honest, about competing on a fair level. I
(26:51):
want to know that I'm my training, my eating regimen,
my stretching, my meditation, my yoga, whatever I'm doing is
better than what you naturally do. If we can all
go out and buy substances, what's next the chip they
put in your brain to make you smarter? So now
you don't have to go to Harvard Law to be
a top lawyer. You don't have to go to Michigan
(27:12):
and go to our ur go to Syracuse to come
out of their mass communications production to have a career
TV and radio? What What's what's next? If we're saying
you're allowed to cheat, but just tell me you're cheating.
What's next? In marriage? Guess what you could go cheat?
Just tell me? Just keep it about what? Absolutely not,
Absolutely not, because everybody is built differently. Lebron James is six'
(27:35):
nine and two sixty two sixty. Five he's a freight
Trained Chuck wagon a guy you AND i. BOTH i
Love Chuck. Wagger WHEN i was a, kid everybody was
A jordan. FAN i was An Isaiah thomas And Charles barkley.
Fan charles is my. God charles was six four and
a half at this, tallest with arms as long as
in a ring of, tang with hands like baseball, mits
and hopped like a. Kangaroo but he could compete against
A David robinson seven. Footer he could compete against A
(27:58):
Patrick ewan seven. Footer could you Imagine? Barkley could you
Imagine jordan on steroids? Apeds could you Imagine? Kobe kobe
is already.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Getting me excited imagining these guys at another.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Level oh But, jake, okay by anotherbody, Else steve is
not going to be Every first of, all there's a
list for a, reason Right there's a list of the
greatest running. Backs there's a list of the greatest. Receivers
there's the list of the greatest, pitchers point, guards, shortstops.
Everything those guys who did it clean are already the
best in the.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
World, okay but hold on a, second, here hold, On
here's here's the thing about.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
BASEBALL. Bj it always gets to me when they.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Talk about these guys that use peds of jeopardize have
tainted the integrity of the. Sport and my answer, is
you mean the integrity of sport that banned an entire
race of people for sixty.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Years you're worried about the integrity of.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Baseball we had a race of people at the entire
race for sixty years with what integrity are we talking?
Speaker 1 (28:54):
About there's no real integrity to coutry reheating going on
in sports again.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Constantly it, was you, know The Carlos, beltron, right who
is one of the masterminds of The Houston astros cheating
scandal that last year In. Houston and it looks like
next year's gonna get.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
In The hall Of.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Fame But John Paul morossey's gonna join us. LATER i ASK,
JP i, go let me ask you, This why would
you vote for a guy the masterminded one of the
biggest cheating scandals of all, time but they're not gonna
support guys to USE.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Pds, WELL i think it's. Different, really what's the. Difference
here's the. Thing just because we know cheating's going on
ladies and, gentlemen boys and, girls doesn't mean that we
just turn a blind eye to. It what are we
doing just because we know the cheating's going, On we
know cheating goes. On when college admissions or A usc
just had a huge scandal a few years ago about
cheating about letting certain kids in the. School so we just, go,
(29:40):
well you know, what let's just let all the universities do,
it and as long as we know you're doing. It
but the kids that don't have rich, parents the kids
that aren't six' ten and two hundred and, seventy pounds
that work their, ass off, the receivers the small guys
that Make A wes welker that makes it TO, the
Nfl A julian edelman that makes it TO the nfl.
Like it if we, start this then you are wiping
(30:03):
out an entire generation of athletes that weren't blessed to
be built a certain way and have a certain height
and have a certain could you imagine shack, On peds
he's already the most dominant force of. All time will didn't,
need Him and will Was An all American High jumperate
kansas was a. True Athlete bo jackson didn't. Need It
bo Jackson And deon sanders are the probably two best
(30:25):
Pure athletes i've ever laid my, eyes on and you're
telling me that. They didn't they didn't, need It And
deon sanders is still primed to. This day if you start,
this thing of everybody can. Do it you are truly
ruining sports now you thinking, ABOUT integrity i one hundred
percent agree. With you there is, no real true Integrity in.
(30:46):
America nowadays, big business, big conglomerates, big money, the, government politics,
the election all. That stuff anybody that knows ME knows
i don't get down with none of that STUFF because
i don't believe everything that's putting in front, of ME
and i don't all Victims, to well they said it on,
the news or they said you should, do this so
you said you should. Do that do what you feel
(31:06):
like you need to do to keep, your integrity follow, Your,
faith andy just try to live a, good life. All, Right,
No no, I'm sorry, I'm.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
SORRY jva i love. YOUR passion i do love. Your,
passion yeah but you're missing the point of the fact
that sports is entertainment more so. Than EVER when i
was a kid a thousand years AGO and i was,
in sports, you know in, the sixties where LITERALLY the
nfl was. An afterthought they didn't even have a separate
street in smith FOR the nfl was on the last
(31:36):
three pages of their college. Football issue it was such.
A niche my parents were like freaking. Out that why
is our son involved in something that so few people actually.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Care about people talk about the golden Era Of Major.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
League baseball they Had a yankees game in nineteen sixty
six that was attended by four hundred People At. Yankee
stadium that's. Four hundred so that wasn't a golden age.
Of sports this is the gold nature. Of sports look
at the. Television contracts why are so many people now engage?
In sports it is the entertainment value they get from
sports from.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
It's.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Already making not a matter. Of age it's creating a.
Better product it's as simple. As that that would not
create a. Better, product, bigger stronger faster is a.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Better product those guys are gonna, Get hurt they're gonna
be out you till. You want that's that's.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Their choice you're talking about people being excluded from the
party because they won't engage then.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Find another light. Of work just. Not fair why is that?
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Not fair there's a lot of people have dreams to
do one thing and find out they're just not capable
of doing it and they have to take an. Alternative
route so why can't that be the same thing.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
In sports.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
That's why i'm, saying it take the cheat out, of
it and let's be upfront.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
About it bring it out in. The open bring it
out of.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
The open, you Know if lebron or anybody else is,
doing Something If tom brady was having some kind of
magical list that allowed him to still throw seven hundred
passes a year at age, forty five.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Guess, What steve then it's time for you to. Move
on it's time for you to. Move, on yes your time.
Has come my time is not you the, day athlete
the athlete's time. Has come your time. Has come you're.
Forty something you've given us all. These years let the next?
Generation in?
Speaker 4 (33:18):
Are?
Speaker 1 (33:19):
You why what do you? Mean why there's other great
young kids. Coming up There's how. I'm. GENERATION okay i.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Just told you at the very beginning of this, conversation
that as a, non athlete having been around athletes my entire,
adult life my envy of them is knows. No limits
the idea that they were gifted with these these athletic
skills that enabled them to be a, professional athlete and
(33:45):
the idea of them extending their careers to the.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Absolute max i'm, all for when can?
Speaker 4 (33:50):
They?
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Start then when can they start with PDEs college. High
school when can? They start? All, right well when you
are a paid professional and you? Cant professional?
Speaker 2 (33:57):
All right coming up on the, other side.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
That's, Crazy steve, i'm sorry. That's crazy, that's okay that's.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
NOT crazy i know the people listening, right now A,
Like hartman why are you? STILL right vj needs to get.
A board you need to get on the on. THE
trade i want you might TO get vj on.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
The track.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
All right coming up on the, other side we'll get
back TO the nba And the luca dynamic and why
in RETROSPECT the nba turned a blind eye to one
of the greatest ROBBERIES in. Nba history This Is Fox.
Sports sunday don't.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Listening To Fox, Sports Radio, STEVE.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Harbin.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Vj Huskey Here Fox. Sports sunday we are alive from
the Tairaq dot. Com studios, all right we got to
take a breath for.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
A second here we kept it going doing the break
we do. All right so YOU know i KNOW. That
vj YOU know I love i. LOVE everything i love.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
Your passion you know HOW much i love your passion
and UH and i have a lot of passion about this.
As well we could come from. Different sides but here
here's the one thing again we. Talk, about yeah we
were talking, off air even making the comparisons to the,
wrestling world, like like why is wrestling still so wildly
(35:09):
popular all these years when we know, IT'S orchestrated i
mean obviously. Tremendous athletes, you know pd use has been out,
of control rampant and.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Wrestling forever but why is it?
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Still popular because people want to, watch it and that's
why they still want to packeringas they want to, watch
it and that's why it's.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Still Around john cena is a. Bad, guy now did
you guys? See, That yes but.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Let's get back to the trade That Landed luka doncic
In a. Lakers forum you, know again You Know, nico
HARRISON the gm Of, the mavericks sort of kiddingly sitting
alongside a Shell shock jason, kidd like what did you?
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Just do and they didn't.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Tell Anybody nico harrison conceded the fact that he may
not be AROUND his gm in a, few years but,
believe me. He was he was carrying out orders. From
above he didn't make this decision on. His own but
the bottom line was they did this trade and traded
away a twenty six year old just turned twenty six
As a laker Superstar For, anthony davis Obviously a Hall
(36:10):
of fame talent who has had a hard time, staying
healthy and one first.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
ROUND pick, i mean.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Based on other trades have been made in, recent years
Like The kevin, durant deal it should have warned five
six number one picks at least To Get luca doncers
In a. Lakers unity you tall it Three For rudy.
Gobert exactly so why did? This happen it's very simple
because if you look at the top two teams reckerwise
IN the nba, this year you Have The cleveland cavaliers
(36:36):
And The Oklahoma. City thunder and as Great As shay,
gildess is as great as that all Star back corn
Of the, cavs is if you end up With A
Cavaliers OKLAHOMA City nba final is going to be a
readings catasph off the.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Chart gone so what do you need?
Speaker 2 (36:53):
To do you need to Get the lakers back in,
the conversation which is exactly what. Has happened anyone that
doesn't believe this because Who was stone silent after that trade?
Was made that Would Be, adam silver a GUY that
i used to think was a pretty. Competent commissioner this
guy is the worst commissioner in all of professional sports
(37:15):
because he doesn't. HAVE control i had many Conversations With
david stern over.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
The years remember when they put in.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
The dress code because he got PISS at ai because
he showed up like with sweats on the. Post game
so we Had commissioners stern on the radio SHOW and
i asked him this. Verbatim question, i'd, say commissioner and
let me ask, a question.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Are you drunk?
Speaker 6 (37:36):
With?
Speaker 2 (37:37):
POWER now I knew i could ask it in that
MANNER because i Had interviewed.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Stern before his comeback.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Was predictably, he says if, you SAY am i drunk
with power in terms of what doing best for?
Speaker 1 (37:48):
This?
Speaker 2 (37:48):
League, YES absolutely i mean that was. HIS retort i
knew he would. Say that that's why he wasn't put
by THE way i expressed the question. To Speak But
adam silver has lost control OF.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
The nba you have.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
LOAD management, i mean there's a million things going on
right now and there's no putting. It back his job
is to make, them profitable and they are a far more.
Profitable league When the lakers, Are Strong steph curry has
a strong, Supporting Cast the knicks, are Strong the celtics,
Are strong his major bases.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
Are strong and that's why he has.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Been stone silent about this robbery that happened With The
dallas mavericks Giving Away luka doncic To The Los.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Angeles, lakers Yeah but i'm fifty to fifty on what.
YOU'RE saying i totally understand what you're saying and why you're.
Saying it but if that's, the case then When the
lakers were on their, way Down when kolbe after, the
championships if, people remember after the second championship Against, the
celtics they get swept in next year By The. Dallas,
mavericks okay they get swept, that year and then, they,
say okay we need to make some. Changes here they
(38:51):
Go Get chris paul And Then david stern. Nixes it
it says because the team didn't have ownership in and
all that other flipflam, and fluff all the other bs
that he put. Out there so if you Want the
lakers to, be good then why the hell would you
NOT let cp three go Play With kobe Bryant And
dwight howard at that point they were trading bite them
(39:13):
in a trading. GASAL bring i. Get it but to
your point of you Want the lakers to, Be good
i'm not sure if you Want the lakers to be
good as just the simple fact that the part of
your ARGUMENT that i totally one hundred percent agree In
Is adam silver has, No Backbone adam silver has. Lost
power you can't let the inmates run. The asylum and that's.
WHAT'S happening i remember them when this player empowerment rave
(39:37):
was OVER the nba for like the last six or,
seven YEARS and i would sit and, just, go, no
guys this is. Not good this Is, no yeah players can,
make moves and players can get, people fired and players
can can, move players and players can get. People trained
this is not good for. The business look at the.
League now one point three per average OF an, nba
GAME the nhl has almost. Caught them so all that
stuff you were doing before thinking you were helping the
(39:58):
league did not help. The league. All right coming up
on the, other side we're going to get INTO.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
THE nfl a couple of quarterbacks have found new homes
and now we have a pretty good idea where some
other big name quarterbacks are going to. End up get your,
checklists already we'll break it down. For you This Is Fox,
sports sunday, all right rolling along here on another very Busy,
Sports Sunday Fox. Sports sunday we're broadcasting live from the
(40:24):
ti Rack dot. Com studios ty rack. Dot com we're
gonna help get you there And on, matt's selection fast,
free shipping free road ads, of protection over ten thousand,
recommended installers tie iraq, dot com the way tire buying.
Should be, all right that was a busy, first hour
a lot, of passion, you know a.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Lot going on.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Right now we're going to, pick up but we got
to move TO the nfl, right now because, you KNOW
the nfl is three. Sixty five every day there's news
and as we get ready now, free agency, the draft
all this kind, of stuff everyone gets as excited as
they do in the.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Actual season who's going to? Go where and.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Normally at, this, TIME well i mean this is every
year quarterbacks are front, and center but the dynamic THIS
year vj is different than it has been in the. Recent,
past normally our focus on quarterbacks is who's going to
go first in. The draft who's going to go second in.
The draft who's going to go third in? The, draft
oh we have. Five quarterbacks if we had six quarterbacks
(41:25):
of the first twelve picks, last, YEAR yeah i mean
it was. Absolutely nuts by, the way that was ONE
prediction i. GOT right i predicted That bow knicks would
Lead The denver broncos to. The playoffs you can see
it on the sheet. Out there it's out on. The
sheet it was. MY prediction i knew that is a shot.
Out there it's still is the sheet still. OUT there
i don't know WITH their, nfl predictions but it's still.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Out there that was.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
My Prediction the broncos will make the playoffs With bow
knicks as. Their quarterback but that is not the case.
This year, if anything we are now looking at a
situation Where cam Ward And, shaudeur sanders the two highest
rated quarterback in, this draft are dropping like a stone, right,
Now guy i'm TELLING.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
You vj they.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Are dropping and so now all of, a sudden there's
more of a premium on the veteran quarterbacks that are available.
Out there AND obviously i had told everybody that the
biggest non story of the last month AROUND the nfl
Was That matthew stafford was Leaving. The Rams matthew stafford
was never Leaving. The rams that was never. In, PLAY
(42:27):
yeah i on, The Radio matthew stafford When, the rams,
They're like rams are telling him that he could go to.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Another team that's not what. They said they told.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
His, agent look if you want to know about his,
market value maybe we don't even know his, market value go,
out there throw his. Name around let's see what we got. Going,
On okay and that's exactly. What happened and he signed
a new deal With. The rams then we Get The geno.
Smith Deal The geno smith deal, made sense did? It
not who Literally Saved geno? Smith's career peek care who
(43:01):
gave him an opportunity After The russell wilson Trade With
drew locke coming in To Give geno smith an opportunity
to win. That Job And gino smith took advantage. Of
that and he has the utmost Respect For pete.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Carroll had to a new, contract, Too right.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
AND so i mean that made a lot. Of sense
so now you got those two pieces. In place now?
Speaker 1 (43:23):
What's?
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Next now BEFORE because i know you have a long
list in front. Of you i'm going to Share With
adam Kaplan Our Fox SPORTS Radio nfl insider SHARE because
i was really shaking him.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
DOWN yesterday i.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Needed answers he's always hes it and, he goes. Believe
me i've been caught with my pants down a, few times,
you Know, saying okay this is going, to happen and
then for, whatever reason. It doesn't but two moves that
he is, pretty sure, pretty sure ninety nine, percent sure
are going to happen Is That sam darnold is going
(43:54):
to Be A seattle seahawk And That aaron rodgers is
going To Be New.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
York giant.
Speaker 2 (44:02):
So those are THE two vj that he thinks when
it all, shakes out are going to be. Landing Spots
sam darnold Because the vikings do not want to franchise.
Tag him they're not even really going to entertain a short.
Term deal we'll get. Into alternatives So the vikings, moving
on And Then, aaron rodgers who when he went To,
the jets it, made, sense right you still want to
(44:23):
Win A. Super Bowl the jets on paper, look, like
hey they're a quarterback away from winning A.
Speaker 1 (44:28):
Super bowl it.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
Made Sense the giants are Not A aaron rodgers away
from winning A, super bowl which really means That Now
aaron rodgers is just out for, a paycheck is what.
He is so what do you think of those two
moves and what ore the moves do you have on?
Speaker 1 (44:42):
Your list first, OF all i want to Disagree with Cam.
AND shador i don't listen to all. That noise, all
right they're going in the. Top three both those quarterbacks
are going in the. TOP three I think tennessee probably if,
they're smart try to find somebody to fill in four year.
Or two if you don't like one of, these guys
You Take, travis hunter who's the best player in college
for they are trying to trade. That pick we'll see
(45:03):
when when. It comes, i've learned and you've been doing
this longer, Than Me but i've been doing it long enough.
TO know i don't listen to a lot of pre.
DRAFT stuff i DON'T.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Know, i had especially the last couple, of weeks remember
when They Had will levis is the second.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
Overall, Pick RESOLUTELY so i don't listen to, a LOT
but i. Get it, it's posturing, it's positioning it's it's
gamesman ships.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Because everybody people have understand that you got thirty two
teams to have a draft board and they. Are, secret yes,
YOU know i love to see those draft boards after,
the fact like where exactly did you have?
Speaker 1 (45:36):
This, person also remember two of you Watched the giants
hard knocks from last year of the second half of.
The year going into the. Off season at, the COMBINE
their gm goes to talk to some other gms, and,
say hey just let you know if you're thinking about moving, you,
know hey, you know, you know we're our. Phone, lines
oh like they do. This STUFF so i think She
Dore campbell bove going in the top three or. Four
(45:57):
picks as Far As Sam, darnold seattle it sounds good
because Now that gino is Left and geno's gonna be
a raider Down in Vegas if minnesota. Is smart in, my,
Opinion now i'm A big jj. McCarthy fan everybody Knows
that JJ's. My Guy think JJ's an. Nfl quarterback he's
gonna be. Just fine if they're moving On. For samdon
they must. See j THEY see jj. Every day they
(46:17):
must they must know that the the therapy is, going
well the rehab's. Going well, they said he's already, throwing
again said he's been. Locked in he hasn't left. The
facility he's, film, film film rehab. Rehaby reap that's what
you want to see from a. Young player but coming
from a Guy Like, jim harbor what else did you
think you were going to get out of?
Speaker 2 (46:32):
This guy You Keep datanel jones is a fill in
until you're. One hundred percy is ready.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
To GO and i think that's why you made that move,
this last all this, last season because you already knew
we're Not Keeping. Sam, dark listen that year was an. An,
anomaly okay he won't do. That, again okay let's. Just
see you can't give me eight years of a guy
career and give me one. Good. Year, go oh there.
He is that's who. He, is no that's not who.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
He is wait, a second isn't that what we were
Saying About geno smith in his breakout Season. With, SEATTLE
no i just thought it parlied him. Into it by,
the way his numbers have not been as good the
last couple.
Speaker 1 (47:03):
Of exactly That's what. I'm saying but it did parlay
him into. Another, contract listen let me just go. WITH
this i don't KNOW how i feel About this geno
move To. The vegas i'm. Not SURE when i, heard
that it was almost like, a Okay maybe tom and
those other guys are still playing. Something else i'm not
sure they're when they made. THIS move i don't think
they All, went okay so we're doing quarterback onto the.
Next position i'm not. Buying, That, NO no i think
(47:25):
it's a.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
Stop, gap look he's certainly an Upgrade Over, gardner minshew
absolutely who they are going.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
To release he Still have. Adan O'Connell they have a.
YOUNG quarterback, I mean i don't think you think they
bring somebody. Else there they draft somebody maybe in the.
Middle rounds, all right let let.
Speaker 2 (47:37):
Me slow down a, second here because you your first,
of all the idea that you believe The cam Ward
And shador sanders will go top four in this draft
is against Everything that i'm hearing. Right now, Feel okay
so let's talk About the raiders at number six in.
The draft, All right so you You've Gotten geno smith
If shardor sanders is on the board. AT six, I
(47:58):
mean i see a lot of, people Saying Take. ASHTON
genty I think genty is the. Real deal i've watched Enough.
Of boise he stayed and this kid has instincts as
a running back that cannot. Be taught he's the. Full
package he can, run, inside outside. BREAKAWAY speed i think
he's a super. Special Talent if I'm, THE raiders I
Take ashton genty in. A heartbeat But If shador sanders
(48:21):
is sitting on the board at, number six Do the
raiders take him as the quarterback of.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
The, future now if that's, the case now you get
yourself A super you're nowhere without, a quarterback. That's true
but if that's, the case now you get yourself sort
of to a conundru of What the falcons did. Last
year you sign now you didn't give them a hundred
million dollars AND guaranteed i didn't think it was A
conundrum loo they are.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Right, Now Listen kirk cousins is done for on this station.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
For weeks and MONTHS that i thought it was the
right deal, to do the right thing. To do because
even if You thought kurt was a, bad, move fine but,
in life when you make, a mistake you don't compound
it by making. Another mistake you try to correct. THE
mistake i think when They Signed. Kirk couzins You think
hennix was. A, mistake, no, NO no I Thought kirk
cousins was. The mistake. HE was i know what this?
(49:06):
Was wrong and at. Number eight remember they Didn't Tell.
Author Blake author blake didn't know who they. Were drafting.
They did they did it because they probably thought he
was gonna go woo. BO oh i just signed one
hundred mand. Dollar check you're not drafted. A quarterback they
all pull it together the, Other, like look don't say
Nothing to arthur because once the pigs said there's nothing he,
Can do he's not gonna fire all. Of us but
this will Work out dyna long and. It DID SO
(49:26):
i i do Think The geno. VEGAS deal i think
there's another quarterback coming there. At six if You're, THE
raiders i just don't. See shador YOU and i can
put a lunch bet. On this your door is not falling.
THE six I just i'm not believing none.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
Of that, oh okay, then okay but then Who is
see look at the Buzz around indianapolis at. The combine
is Is that tennessee is open to the idea of
trading out of the number. One slot so if you
look at the teams, after that who is? Trading up
when the When the titans threw it, out, there thinking,
all right this, your Opportunity cam ward number one, overall crickets.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
If you're the if You're, the giants so let's go
to A rob no one's gonna.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
Treat you what what do you have to give up
for a top five pick in. The draft you're gonna
have to give up a future, number one a two.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
Or three no team is gonna do that For cam
ward Or. Sure sanders no one's gonna. Do that so
let's go With the giants at. Number, three okay.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
What Are the giants are gonna do if you're Gonna Sign?
Speaker 1 (50:22):
Aaron rodgers no. They're not. They're not they're gonna take a.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
You are, Telling, me okay hang on, To This sid
i'm gonna get. To this, All, right okay, all right let's.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Go on adam you. That's FINE but i think at,
number three it's well.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
You can still take. A quarterback everyone To Have.
Speaker 1 (50:37):
Aaron, rodgers giants you reset. This thing you reset, THIS thing.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
I understand but you still the reason that you Would
Sign aaron rodgers if he still wants. To play i'm
not one hundred percent certain that, he does but If
the giants want to, sign him just to, you know
have anybody Interested in giants football for.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
A season we're not in this. For interesting we're in
this to try to get better as the franchise and.
Speaker 2 (50:56):
Will and then you could still draft. A quarterback on the,
OTHER side vj will continue on is he will give
us the, inside word ACCORDING, to vj of which quarterback
is going where and how indeed and Where Indeed shoudor
sanders And cam wood are gonna end up in. This
draft That's what i'm most. Curious about This Is Fox,
Sports Sunday steve HARVIN. And. Vj husky here We Are
(51:20):
Fox Sports sunday live from the tire Rack dot. Com
studios coming up in the, Next Hour John palm morosi
is going to be. Joining us, we are believe it,
or not only a couple of weeks away from the
start of the. Baseball season it's always a. Great Time
The masters golf.
Speaker 1 (51:33):

Got The arnold palmer obviously going on, this weekend but
THE Players tpc sawgrass next week looking forward to that
great course. Out there how do you think you would do?
On that what would you hit on? That island? HOLE
seventeen i was about, to say, Seth hole i'd.
Speaker 1 (51:54):
LAND it, i don't assuming there's, no win, probably.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Bogey, double, bogey, no, no no what would clubby pulling
out of your bag and let's.
Speaker 1 (52:01):
Say there's, no win, you know? No win was one
hundred and thirty yards one hundred and forty yards. Like
that i'm a Big strong i'm a big. Strong GUY
club i can, club down, just, wedge YEAH say. I
can i can wedge and just swing the hell out
of IT cause i want to get. Some, AIR yeah
i want to get some air because you. Want it
you don't?
Speaker 2 (52:17):
Want, it no not.
Speaker 1 (52:19):
With that ba's got.
Speaker 6 (52:20):
To.
Speaker 1 (52:21):
Drop listen i'll take the bunker to, the front to, the, front,
right absolutely the, Front right i'll take. The bunker. YOU
can't i don't want. IT going i don't want to, diving,
in no because they'll just. Roll Round so, I'll Wedge
i'll i'll off wedge and just swing the hell out,
of it stand up in front of the ball so
that the ball is kind of. Behind me put it'll
put the ball on my back leg and just swing
the hell out of. A wedge so.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
Quick t tour for a, Second here what is your favorite?
YOU KNOW i i preface this, by saying DURING the,
COVID shutdown, i remember, you Know rich ORENBERGER and i
would sit here with, you, know literally no sports are
three months doing four hours. Of Radio and i'm not
a big believer in taking a lot, of calls to
the frustration, of many but we did only a couple
of shows like that because we knew that we were
(53:03):
sharing this experience with. Sports, fans now most people look at,
a calendar they see. TWELVE months a sports fan doesn't
look at the calendar the same way a normal. Person
does in, other words we look at it. As season
so when we say, a month we associated immediately with
a sport or a. Sporting event So like april we
(53:24):
know the start of the. Baseball season probably we're right
at the End Of march madness Obviously the Masters golf.
Turma though that's how we look at. A calendar that.
Speaker 1 (53:33):
Being said what is your favorite month of? The year.
Speaker 2 (53:38):
What is the month you look forward to most on,
your calendar low?
Speaker 1 (53:42):
Hanging Fruit july august because football? Starting? Really, Yeah absolutely
so you're not Waiting. Until, september, no, well no when
the real. Needs, begin, no. NO no i am a
proponent on this network of telling people once the First
big domino name FALLS for nba free agency like live fifth,
to me football season STARTS because i started getting my
(54:03):
nose again and started getting geared up for.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
Training, CAMP okay i want to throw something.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
At you watch that camp STUFF.
Speaker 2 (54:08):
On. NFL now i know you're a fan of. All
sports i've said this ABOUT. The NBA the nba is
near and dear. To ME when i, Grew Up jerry
west was My ultimate oh, WOW here i never knew
THAT because i was a Kid when jerry was Still.
A laker i even remember a STORY when i actually
was seated Next To jerry west at a some dinner that,
you know some media people, were At and. I'm engaged
(54:29):
he could have, been, nicer right. He's engaging, HE goes
i hear you work For, the raiders and we, WERE talking,
i MEAN and i stopped him in. A second, I, said,
JERRY look i don't want to embarrass you. Or me
but the IDEA that i am like talking to you
is like an out of. BODY experience i had never
said that to. ANYBODY serious i had met so many
famous people over.
Speaker 1 (54:47):
The years.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
He laughed, he says let me tell you. His story,
he goes my rookie season With. The lakers lakers had
just Moved from Minneapolis To. Los angeles so his rookie
year With. The lakers they're playing a, preseason game exhibition
game Against, the celtics And Here's bob coosey and so,
He Says so coozy is dribbling down the Court and
jerry has assigned, to him and, he says in, That
(55:08):
moment i'm literally guarding THE guy I pretended i used
to be like like. He was, HE goes i didn't
KNOW if i should guard him.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
Or ask for.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
An autograph so he said. That idea so, you.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
Know but there's, Of course July and august is low
HANGING for i KNOW what i want to. Ask, you
READY the, nba season.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
Move it back, two months so you start the Season
at christmas and you end the Season. In august so
Instead of October, to june You go December. To august,
that way you're not interrupted and trying to fake us
out with some lame brain in season tournament to, draw
(55:52):
eyeballs which is a. Ridiculous thing. Move it so you
got the dog days of summer. In BASEBALL the nfl season.
Hasn't start imagine IF The nba finals Were, in august
you would own the.
Speaker 1 (56:04):
Sports world. Own, it absolutely they still wouldn't because more
people would tune IN for nfl preseason THAN An nba.
FINALS game i honestly still believe that football's king. Man
like we can't. TAKE that, I know i know you
GOT an nfl logo on your hat, right NOW and
I know nba is near and dear to, your art and.
THAT'S fine i LOVE the. NBA too i grew up
On the Detroit. Bad boys my dad Was a. SIXERS
fan i grew up going And, Seeing Uh moses malone
(56:27):
and and and and uh And THE doctor J and
Charles bark. That's why that's what made me a. Barkleay
guy but, THE month i just want to get. That
out my month is it's a. Blliant Day it's, november
first because by that TIME the nfl is in. Full swing,
oh yeah college is reven up towards. The conference you
know that who's gonna be where the college playoff seasons.
Are OUT the nba, HAS started nhl, has started Not
(56:50):
in colmby basketball is about, to Start And Major league
baseball is just. Coming out, november first like the end
of the End. Of october november is my favorite time.
Of HERE the nba. Starting late listen at the end of,
the day it's not. GONNA matter i like. THE idea
i hate the end season tournament as long AS. The
nfl he's playing days Games On. Christmas Day christmas day
(57:13):
belongs TO. The, nfl now it's NOT. The, nba well
that's my.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
Whole point is that's that's that's the DAY the nba season.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
Should start no one will no one's gonna. Watch it
you have five.
Speaker 2 (57:24):
Guess guess what when You're in July and august and
you're in the midst of, the playoffs everybody will be WATCHING.
THE nba i Still so July, in august so you're just.
Gonna kick baseball's not. About that baseball is, you know
you gotta. Trade deadline you Got The All star. GAME there,
i mean but it's dark days of summer in baseball
those those are the. Great days here's the one thing,
(57:44):
About BASEBALL and i am a, baseball PURIST and i Really.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
Get rev debil hear That With John paul morossi coming
up in the. Next hour but here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
About baseball every TIME that i seem to, be down
the one postseason that, always delivers it's a.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
Baseball postseason how.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
Much more dramatic than that walk Off grand Slam By
Freddie freeman game one Of The. World series it's the suddenness.
Of it that's the thing that baseball has going for
it that even, other sports.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
Even The, wildcard round because some of, those games especially
for us, out here and, they started, you know eleven am,
or noon and if, you're off like we, you know we're,
sports guys, radio guys so we're doing most of our
work on, the weekends nights and evenings anyway during. The
week so at, Eleven thirty, i'm, like, oh Wow the
razor Playing the orioles right Now in game one of
The WILDCAR and i can sit there my daughter and.
Watch lung i'll, eat LUNCH and i can go pick
(58:32):
my Son up cameron. From school at twelve thirty or
one thirty, two thirty whatever day they get out and
get back home and put the game. Back on the
game is baseball playoffs wildcar. Visional round. It delivered, you're
right it.
Speaker 2 (58:44):
Delivers the drama that sport is so tailor made for.
The postseason it's just the, way baseball especially.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
When it's tied in the eighth and the night next because,
every yeah because it could be, any swing, any swing
any person you.
Speaker 2 (58:59):
Don't, expect, okay yeah, all right let's get back because people,
ARE screaming i want to know where these quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
Are going, all right let's get back to.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
The draft because you made a comment that nobody, agrees
with including, yours truly that that somehow.
Speaker 1 (59:16):
Thanks for all of you guys. Out there I'M just
i want to know where you're.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
Going here so, all right so you have Both cam
ward And shoudor sanders going as, you said in the top, four,
picks yes of the twenty TWENTY Five. Nfl, draft right
so let's go over the. Picks again the number one
Pick is i'm going to give the first. Five picks
if you, Don't know i'm, Out there tennessee, At one cleveland,
At two giants, At Three new England four jacksonville.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
At five then we'll get To the raiders. At six, All,
right jacks.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
All right so which one of those five teams do
you think holds their pick and takes a quarterback or
trades out to try to get something in exchange for,
the pick and which team would move up to get?
Speaker 1 (59:55):
A quarterback giants are staying. At Three the giants are
Not Signing. AARON rodgers i don't. Have that i'll give you.
A team Think Where aaron rodgers could. End Up aaron
rodgers could end up signing With The. Tennessee titans he
has a house There. In nashville they probably are looking
for some type. Of Relevance the giants don't care. About
relevance They're. The Giants the giants are. Relevant anyway They're
The New York. Football, giants okay if you need to
(01:00:16):
reset that, whole thing you moved On From. Daniel jones
you dropped the Ball In saquon barkley oh led the
league in rushing over two thousand yards and Win A.
Super bowl nice, Move there giants. Front office you reset that.
Whole thing you got a nice young Receiver And. Elik
neighbors you got a nice young defensive kind of an all,
you know all pro maybe pro baller type Guy in
Cavon tab, but oh you got some real nice young. Pieces,
(01:00:36):
there okay you take a quarterback at, Number Three, Tennessee
Cleveland new england doesn't need a quarterback At for we
know that they're gonna stay there because they need offensive.
Line help that's where you grab one Of those texas tackles, Right.
There jacksonville there's some question, marks here and let me
just tell you give them a. Long contract doesn't. Matter
there he is. Not Pleaving matt jones is. A backup
(01:00:56):
me tell you let. Me finish he is not played
well if so comes with. AN offer i have been
told that there were some calls and made and some
people Listen About.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Trevor, lawrence wait now you Would Get Trevor Richard trevor
Lawrence For.
Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
SHADOR sanders i don't know what you, would DO but
i just know that that's been. Out there vegas sitting at,
six six the Bum ass jets right there at seven
is a. Lynch pin and so is the number nine
pick To The New. Orleans saints because we don't know
what's Happening With. Derek carr we Don't know spinler rats spenceon.
Excuse Me spencer rattler is the guy in. THE future
(01:01:31):
i could See if tennessee wants out of. That spot
if You're, the jets, you listen you need to clean that.
Thing up you need to clean that bad boy up,
Right there give up the next two first round picks
and maybe a second and try to go up number
one and grab your quarterback at. Number one in a,
Big market Cam and schador can both handle, the pressed
(01:01:51):
they can both handle. The city i'm not Worried about spencer.
Shit door You think shador can't handle, big season just
like he told everybody at. The combine You think i'm WORRIED.
About abcx do you know who my? Dad, Is like
i've been dealing. With this so you Have the jets
there and you Have. The saints both those teams. Need
quarterbacks now they.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Need quarterbacks, i'm sorry What's the brown situation at quarterback?
Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
Right now, he, no, No no i'm Getting to, cleveland
guy let. Me go well hold on hold on to,
that thought.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
All, right first let's find out, what's TRENDY because i
don't want to cut you off him it. Sends people
are you good they've been anxious to find this out,
Because me jay's got all the, Answers Here, me mansie YOU.
And i i'm not saying we're wasting our time with
The great, adam kaplan but he's already basically shot down pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Much everything adam said about the. Quarterback, SITUATION well.
Speaker 5 (01:02:38):
I know it's a, fluid, situation right THAT'S. The, nfl
right who knows who knows? Who's right we'll find.
Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
Out.
Speaker 5 (01:02:44):
Soon uh the first game IN the nba has, wrapped,
up fellas and it was a blowout in, the end
but it wasn't a blowout the, whole game which is.
What's Weird but oklahoma just Defeated. The Nuggets oklahoma city
won twenty seven to. One three they outscored them in
the fourth quarter forty one. To Twenty Shake gilgess alexander,
(01:03:05):
forty points, eight rebound, six assists his eleventh forty, point
game OBVIOUSLY an mvp favorite up AGAINST another, Mvp Candidate,
nicola jokic who kind of got cold in the fourth,
quarter there but ended with twenty, four points, thirteen rebounds and.
Nine assists it's just the first OF many nba games.
To come we still have later today At Eight eastern Cavaliers,
and bucks. For example so the first one has, wrapped
(01:03:27):
UP though i mentioned. It earlier in men's, college Hoops
That high point Out Of north carolina has Won The Big,
south conference so they're headed TO The ncaa tournament for
the first. Time ever IN, The Nfl, miles garrett he's not.
Going anywhere he And the browns have agreed on a,
four year one hundred and sixty million dollar extension with
one hundred and twenty three, million guaranteed making him the
highest paid non QUARTERBACK in. Nfl History the bills released
(01:03:50):
Eight Time pro bowl Pass Rusher von miller to clear salary,
cap space but both parties are reportedly Open to miller
returning To. The bills and, in baseball That's Catcher francisco
areas will undergo surgery on his broken. Left wrist he's
going to miss six to.
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
Eight weeks back, to, YOU guys i sure Laughed At.
Miles garrett why don't people just?
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
BE honest, i, mean, hey look you get off of
that kind, of money you're gonna turn, it down all that.
Guaranteed money and then then he comes back, and, says yeah,
YOU know i want to, stay here sort of finish
the job and then really try to help lure other free.
Agency jims so you used up all the free agent
money in. Your contracts also.
Speaker 1 (01:04:28):
Really quick, on. That guys he'll one out in a
year and. A half mark. It down he'll won out
in a year and. A half you signed, the, Deal
right you don't say no to. The deal This was
this Was coach williams With the pistons last year when
he said he wanted, To retire he wanted, to go,
sit down he want. The rest remember he lost his
wife and Then the pistons slot an eighty million dollar
contract across. The table he signed it as fast as
(01:04:48):
he could and didn't last. One season he didn't want to,
Be There miles garrett does not want to. Be there
but you don't say no to over one hundred million dollar.
Guaranteed money that's staring you right to. Your face he
probably could have gotten it, somewhere else but it's right there.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Right, now no he said there was an urgency to
get it done now is? Right there so that before
free AGENCY so i can help get other free agents and.
Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
Rebuild, belief sure not buying it. At all he'll. Want
out mark, my words he'll want out in the next
year and. A half you mark, my words, All.
Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
Right monsie great stuff Is always thank you. So much,

Don't lie tape has. Never lied because it's. Right there
he don't have it. No More if i'm them sitting,
It too what are you gonna add in this draft
that's gonna make you any Better that you're still gonna
have to Replace the shawn at, some point probably, this
(01:07:03):
year from playing bad and probably. Moving on they might
have to just cut this guy at some point and
give him his check and say. Thank you it was
the stupidest free agent signing in trade that has ever
been made in the history. Of sports we, messed up
but we are not gonna continue to compound. This mistake
here's your money and. Just go we have to move
on as. A franchise i can see them doing something
(01:07:26):
with the quarterback at number Two because i'm just looking at. The,
prospects yes you could take, the tackle you could take
the rushing Out, of georgia but does that make your.
Team better you're still got the quarterback question, mark there
so there is, a PLACE and i can See the
jets In the saints trying to trade up because if
you sit at nine With, the saints you're telling me
that you Really Trusted. Spencer ratler then if you sit
(01:07:48):
there at nine because you're not gonna get these, other
three remember you Also Got. Dylan gabriel i'm not sure
now none of these OTHER teams i don't think Would Take,
dylan gabriel but you just don't want. WHAT'S left i
felt like some times teams take a quarterback, because well we,
need one and this is what's left because everybody else.
Is Gone sean payton got Lucky Because sean payton is
a hell of a.
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Football coach yes. He is but he got left with
what was left out of. The quarterbacks but he had
the guy he wanted, All along Nicks. BOW knicks i
don't know if he wanted them all.
Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
Over quarterbacks but did you Watch bowt Knicks at orgon
completing what seventy eight percent of? His, passing so plus
he's an athlete that. CAN run i Watched bow. Nicks
run that doesn't change the fact that he took what.
Was left he wanted to. MOVE up I think i
forget that they tried to. Trade up they Tried To
(01:08:41):
the broncos tried to. Trade up how do you know
they didn't try to trade up to Get. Bow knicks, everyone,
said Well bot nicks was projected to be a second.
Round pick we don't.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Know, this again every, single team thirty two teams have a.
Draft board you remember when they were, talking, about uh
The Uh max Jones Versus justin fields and that that
the you KNOW that, I Mean and, i'm like you
show me a draft board That Has mac jones Ahead Of.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
JUSTIN fields i said that at, the time will show
me a draft board to Have bow knicks ahead of
all those. Other, QUARTERBACKS well i.
Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
Don't know do you think there was any that had
Ahead Of michael pennix that?
Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
Had? Him, no No The MICHAEL pennis i thought a lot.
OF people i thought a lot he's got my gun for.
AN arm i know a lot of People Liked. MICHAEL
pennix i don't Think bow knicks he Got my. Heisman
VOTE but i honestly thought That the broncos when they,
came out they were trying to. Trade up why do
you Think the vikings? Moved up Because the vikings were
afraid That the broncos are trying to come up TO take.
Jj McCarthy that's Why. The Vikings the vikings got Blindsided By. Kirk, cousins,
(01:09:40):
yeah well we didn't think for an instant that a
Team like atlanta was going to offer him that kind of.
A content but. That aside when it came to, draft
day they they could hear the footsteps Of. The Broncos
the broncos were not trying to trade up to Take.
Bo nicks they were trying to trap to take, somebody
else and that was probably GONNA be. Jj McCarthy that's
why they Jumped the jets. One pick think. About It
the vikers just traded up one picked to, a, sure
(01:10:01):
yeah that they COULD get jj McCarthy because they know
the stories were coming Out That sean payne loved. The
Kid sean payne liked him. A lot they wanked him.
Out twice he. Loved IT and, i, thought listen he
got lucky because he's a. Great COACH but i still
think he. Got left he picked what he was.
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
Left with do you THINK that jj McCarthy is a
better quarterback prospect Than?
Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
Bow? Nick yeah absolutely SAW what i have to. Own
film i'll put the tape on.
Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
Once again he TOLD what i SAW about, jj McCarthy
and i defended HIM because, i, said look when this
guy was needed because that senior game was a, freaking
blowout but you know when he was needed to, make
plays he. Made plays. He did that was my one
defence staff he did with His and i'll stand on
his hard CORE and i did all the way through his.
(01:10:48):
First office did he did.
Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
What his offensive coordinator asked him.
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
To do, That's good but how does that translate if
he's asked to do more AT?
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
The, Nfl, LOVE well i Get, THE joe i get
to Throw The. JOE jefferson i get to THROW. The,
tj HAWKINS and i have two of the top tackles in.
THE league i get the Hand To. AARON jones I
Have rob floor as his top, five defense number one
defense blitz rush rate in. The, league yeah there's OTHER
things i HAVE because i can. Do more, Tell me
tell me to court the receiver he was throwing To
a michigan somebody named him. For, me no you can
(01:11:18):
name me a, tight end but you can't name me.
A receiver he was told to not turn the, ball
over and. He didn't he was told to hand in
the ball to play Corn And donovan evers What he
That's what. Harball does That's what That's What justin. Herbert's
Doing justin herbert is Doing what harball's asking him. To
do how do you get knocked.
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
For, that well you get knocked for it when you
can't deliver in. The Postseason That, Justin Herbert justin herbert
is a whole, different.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Story, Right no I'm just i'm just making a comparison
of just doing What, you're yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
But then if, you're asking because this is where teams get,
into trouble where you're asking someone to do something they haven't. Already,
done well we know you can. Do this how do
you know that he can? Do it how do You
Know dylan gaber was asked to? Do more it Couldn't
be washington either time.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Last year.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
More players, i'd SAY when i look At The Pro
football Hall, Of fame i'd break it down into. Two
categories half the guys In The Pro football Hall of
fame would Have been hall of famers no matter what
team they.
Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
Were on they were just. That good they were just
like the.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
Other half, right place, right time, right system. Right ever, oh,
absolutely example do you have, Like anybody i'll give you
an out Of A. Jack, lambert okay let me Talk.
About jack this is, old. School right nineteen, seventy Four
The pittsburgh steelers in the second round take an undersized
Linebacker Named jack lambert Out Of. Kent, State OKAY and
(01:12:32):
i had a buddy of mine who Was An all
AMERICAN of Ucla Named, cal, peterson, bigger stronger faster Physically Than.
Jack lambert and, He goes so. He goes the funny
thing is because he went in the. Same DRAFT had
i been drafted By the steelers to ask to play.
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
That position i'd be In the Hall.
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
Of fame why because when he Joined the steelers in nineteen,
seventy four Me and joe green was at the peak
of his POWER. L, C Greenwood, Dwight White.
Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
Ernie holmes they.
Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
Had a front four that literally was so dominated offensive
lines that this undersized lot. Free shots if you look,
at him no one is. Blocking him he's literally getting
free shots at bulb carriers all over. The, field now
as he, got older, more mature his. Game mature it's
sort Of Like tom brady where. He was he went
(01:13:17):
from game manager to really the dynamic Of the. Patriots offense,
But again lambert, right place, right time right system for
a two twenty pounds linebacker who never got blocked because that,
defensive front the steel curtain was occupying so many blockers
just try to hold. Him off that he got free
shots and he got spotlight because guy's making tackles all over.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
The field no one ever blocked. THE guy I feel
i feel that in being a, football guy former player
coaching now in, HIGH school i get what, you're saying
but that's what defensive linemen are supposed. To DO because
i used to have this Argument about raylos supposed, to
do but none did it better. Than, that yeah but
that's just the way. IT is i used to have
this argum About. Ray lewison i'm not Saying ray lewis, isn't,
Great guys i'm not Saying ray lewis, isn't great, but man,
(01:14:03):
but Man.
Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
Kill.
Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
GOD good i want to start this so because that man,
Was great, but man did he always, have DOMINANT big
d tackles in front of him that when it Was
ray lewis ever blocked ray put On ray lewis tap
he he's flying untouched to the ball most of. His
Career Tony sarah gusa. Up front these are the like
(01:14:27):
it's Almost Like. Derrick, brooks well when you got First
ballot Hall Of Famer, warren sapid the nose tackle that's
taken up two and sometimes, three guys you should be
able to fly. Around untouched but but that is what his.
Job is his job is to hold up two guys
so the linebackers can run and fro and and and
(01:14:48):
free flow and. Make plays that's it's it's a it's
a level. Of football you GOT the, d level you
got the, linebacker level you got the second it's, Just,
LIKE hey i can't cover for, five seconds. D tackle
can you put some pressure on the cornerback because sooner
or later the receiver's gonna. LOSE me i can't touch,
him nowadays so you need that line to put pressure on.
The QUARTERBACK so i only got a cover for two
(01:15:10):
point five, to THREE so i can't cover for five and.
Six SECONDS so i get what.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
You're Saying jack lambert also had an outside linebacker and
that four to three Defense named Jack ham Jack cam
we just like the fact being a Six time First
Team all pro still is one of the most underrated
players in the history OF.
Speaker 1 (01:15:24):
The nfl you Talked About, Derrick peaky They'll Get.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
DEREK brooks i mean the kind of do everything, outside
Linebacker The ted hendricks of. The world guys. Like that
That was jack hamm back in.
Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
The day and. THAT'S shield I Mean. JOHN lynch I
Love John.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Jack, lambert got, you know because of his demeanor and.
Everything else are sort of. A, rniss.
Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
Yeah he had he had, those seventies gretty pretty dirty.
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
Looking back he was like the face of that defense
and he might have been the fourth Or fifth pray
now was a.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
Better Player bloe green was a. Better player jackham was a.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Better player uh and That's where lambert was all right
up on the. Other side will continue on with this
conversation because we still haven't finished with. The quarterbacks WHEN
is vja finally going to give us the answer on who's?
Going where we'll find Out This It's Fox, Sports Sunday, STEVE.
Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
Harvin.
Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
Vj husky This Is Fox. Sports sunday we are live
From the Tirak dot. Com studios, all right let's finally
get an answer Here. From vjay and, all Right so
i'm going to. Concede this we look at the top
five picks in The, Draft, Tennessee, Cleveland Giants, New. England
Jacksonville new england's not taking. A quarterback jacksonville is not taking.
Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
A quarterback but.
Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
Those top three all Knee, Quarterbacks tennessee cleveland And. The
giants so you, are saying really three picks in Knowing
That new england is not going to take, a quarterback
they need so much more that the two top rated
quarterbacks in, this Draft cam Ward And, shardor sanders will
be off the Board When new england sle at.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
Number four i'm Not Guaranteed new england selects at. NUMBER
four i Could See new england sliding out and trying
to gather. More, picks remember they have a new coach
after firing a guy after. One year they got, their,
quarterback RIGHT so i think the cupboard is.
Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
Really bare you realize That the jets move up and take.
A quarterback we, let's see let's, go over let's go over.
The quarterbacks they've already moved up to get over the last. Few,
Drafts right they've taken what two quarterbacks and the top?
Three picks and how do both those guys work out For?
Speaker 1 (01:17:30):
THE jets, I mean i already KNOW because i called.
It so i'd said the same thing About When, sam
dardal when They Drafted, sam dartle and when They Drafted. Zach,
wilson yeah the same Thing With. Mark SANCHEZ and i
Was watching mark sanchezter here A usc but are.
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
You convinced That cam ward Or shudor sanders would have
a different path than those two quarterbacks had if taken
high in?
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
THE draft, I DO but i know the only problem With
the jets is. The ownership that's the only problem About
the jets is just. The ownership is it so it
doesn't matter it doesn't mean that they're not going to
do it. Those theeves so let me just get it.
Out there within these first, three picks both those quarterbacks
are gonna. Be Gone but i'm saying there's no Guarantee,
That tennessee cleveland And. THE giant i Think the giants
stand pat Because the giants can't get who. They Want
if tennessee is flirting out here that they're looking, to
(01:18:11):
trade they're probably looking to trade because someone's trying to
come up to get. A, quarterback well they're a. Terrible
team they need more than. A Quarterback, APPS absolutely i agree.
With that so that means that if, somebody's trading you're
not trading up to number one to take. A, tackle
no you're not trading up the number one to take
the receiver Right Of. Arizona state you're not trading up
number one To Take. Ashon jitsy if you're trading up the,
(01:18:31):
number one you're looking to Take cam ward Or Should.
Door SAMs but, once again we are so early in.
This process the draft isn't Even. UNTIL may I believe
i think the draft is until when's the drivers In
late April Or may April Late, april okay they move
it back more.
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
AND more i remember the Draft is april twenty fourth through,
the twenty so.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
After After eastern easter's on The twenty IF that's i
know that four twenty, all right that's that's a little
over a. Month away, so yeah but there's still so
much to be done, since then You Got, pro days
you got a lot of more bringing players in, an
interview and they're talking to just mark, My Words shador
sanders And cam ward will both be off the board
by pick four, and five but it's not guaranteed that
it's Gonna be Tennessee and cleveland picking one. AND two
(01:19:11):
i Could see cleveland if at, Kaplan right kapla says
they're looking to, Trade, out, okay fine then that means
that somebody's calling them to trade up to try to take.
A quarterback they're not calling a trade up to take
the tackle Out. Of texas that's not what they're. Calling
for they're calling to try to trade up because they need.
A quarterback i Think, THE jets i Think. The saints
chicago's got, A quarterback samson's got, A quarterback dallas got,
(01:19:33):
A quarterback miami's got. A Quarterback the coat's got, A
quarterback alanta's got, A quarterback arizona's got. A quarterback i
think there are some questions There About, calla, Murray though
cincinnati's got, a quarterback And the seattle looked like FROM
what caapla told you, at eighteen they would be making
looking to make, this Team, man.
Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
Dardo which Team Will aaron rodgers play for in twenty
twenty five or will he play in twenty?
Speaker 1 (01:19:53):
Twenty five i'll take the under on just he might
not play in twenty. Twenty five it's gonna be hard
to try to pick. A team i'm, WITH you I
don't I. JUST rogers i think. HE'S done i think.
HE'S done, I mean i just don't see that in your.
Locker room, why well why would he want to just
extend his career and needs? Another payday doesn't make? Any sense?
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
All right coming up with the, Next Hour, john paulmelarossi,
a breakdown A Little major, league BASEBALL more.
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
Nba news This Is Fox.
Speaker 2 (01:20:17):

The Detroit detroit piston shocked the world by Beating The Los.
Angeles lakers and YOU know i was talking about it.
Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
Took a turn because you were here talking about, My Man,
mom blue you enter talking about. MY MAN i i
can't Talk, About, mike yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
My.
Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
Guy man if YOU if i can't talk about, Right,
now lewis you will not Be smirched.
Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
Kobe around it's not about Being. Smirching kobe it's about telling.
Speaker 1 (01:21:06):
The, truth okay oh, The, truth steve don't.
Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
Do that if you want to alter, THE truth bj.
Speaker 1 (01:21:13):
Be free i'm telling you.
Speaker 2 (01:21:15):
The truth but then they're talking ABOUT how i had
it Out For. Larry brown i'm literally showing look, At
this look at This picture i'm, showing you and.
Speaker 1 (01:21:22):
There's Me There's larry brown ninety right there for Beating.
The lakers you're Playing with kobe for. The Loss loss shack.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
Was Destroying ben wallace in, That game he's going to.
Score fifty if he needed to to win that game
and get, it made started pressing him and, making earlier
they would have gotten the series back TO. L a
and it could have been a totally. Different story was
if was an eighth we'd all. Be, hot well, you're
right that's that's a hell if.
Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
The biggest two letter word in.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
The vocabulary, all right, all right Excited About mark trandess?
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
Right, Now yes, i'm, Excited man i'm excited about, the
women's the men's by, the way the. Smaller tournaments, right
now We're watching Bradley and DRAKE like i love, this stuff,
all right so. Let me i'm Glad.
Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
You bridge they should be able, to cheat, you Know
Without caitlin clark on the women's side FOR the, i
mean that's all we are. Talking about right Last YEAR
iowa i did and right everyone's. Talking him we were just,
you know jumping on. The bandwagon, All right so here
we Are to we got the big ten women's CHAMPIONSHIP
(01:22:29):
game USC. And ucla UCLA's only lost two games, this
year BOTH. The usc in, Those Games juju watkins averaging
thirty five points shooting, fifty threes averaging five.
Speaker 1 (01:22:40):
BLOCKS blocks i wouldn't play her one on one, right now,
All right so let me ask you This About.
Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
Juju watkins you could make an argument that her skill
set is, as good if, not superior to That At.
Caitlin clark she can do things on the basketball court
by the way she is being.
Speaker 1 (01:22:57):
Tutored BY who i still believe to.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
This day, AND yes i consider her dear friend the
best women's basketball player of.
Speaker 1 (01:23:05):
All time that's The Great.
Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
Cheryl, miller, OKAY okay i still believe to, this day
even though she finished her collegiate career forty, years Ago
That cheryl miller is still the greatest women's basketball, player ever.
Speaker 1 (01:23:19):
No ARGUMENT and i love her on a personal love
Either her Lisa. Or kandas that's kind of. My three
here's THE.
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
Thing i always Said About candas parker when she hit
the Scene. AT tennessee i thought to my seven when
she went TO, the wnba if you can't market, this,
girl yeah with that, skill set the way, She, LOOKS
yes i mean, it's like if you can't create a
star Out Of, candas parker then you're doing. Something wrong
AND then i saw what they Did With. Caitlyn clark
(01:23:46):
they just try to undermine her the, entire year and,
it's like what are? You doing you have been given
a gift for. Whatever reason, She's resonating go, with it don't.
Fight it AND then i Look At juju, watkin's now
she's still a couple of. Years away should we have
hardship with?
Speaker 1 (01:24:01):
Women's?
Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
Basketball Now Should juju watkins go straight to THE. W
nba i know she's probably making it a pretty Good As.
Kennedy almine, She's ready, SHE'S definitely, I mean i know,
She's READY but i, Mean Again juju watkins is a
girl that has phenomenal, basketball skills and yet she's not
getting in the same notre the same Ink That caitlyn.
(01:24:23):
CLARK did i don't KNOW if u actually goes on
and wins, the championship but that's. GONNA change i try.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
TO explain i try to explain this. To you last
year you didn't want, to listen so maybe you'll listen
to me. This year YOU and i sat here On
a sunday filling in last year DURING the i think
it was during. The tournament it was During the, women's
TOURNAMENT and i Told you this was all about media
creating good guy versus. Bad guy You Had angel Reese Versus.
CAITLYN clark i sat here told you guys all last
(01:24:50):
year that all these same fans that were screaming how
they love women's basketball and they're gonna stick with it and,
Watch it we're all full. Of it the media knows
how to pull on people's, hard strings create a, good
guy create a, bad guy and then just letting it
and then just throw it. Out there where's all the
TALK on tv this year on these talk shows and
these debate shows about, women's basketball where's all the Talk
(01:25:12):
About juju Watkins And kaitlyn becker's, where's?
Speaker 4 (01:25:15):
That?
Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
Guys exactly because there is no story of good girl versus.
Bad girl that's what's gonna drive. The needle that's why
people arguing on debate shows drive, the needle even though
most fans are tired of. Watching it that's where they're
dropping the ball. Right Now And, Juju watkins i'm not
gonna say, she's better. SHE'S worse i tell, you this.
She's different though, She's different she's not just. Launcher Three
(01:25:38):
kaylen clark came onto the scene because she was a
woman that, can shoot, like Honestly Like, steph curry she
creates she worked on, her game her and, her dad
and she had. Stupid Range juju watkins does everything on
the basketball does she does everything. On it there's not
a shot she can't. Get to there's not a mid
range spot she can't. Get to there's not a penetration
she can't. Get to she does everything on the, Car
(01:26:01):
right so there's no Creation of juju Versus who, all
right there's no.
Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
Bad guy we came out of the last collegiate basketball
season with the idea that women's basketball is a runaway,
freight train, Like now rock's gonna go to, the stratosphere
and here we are a.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
Year later no one's talking. About it so let's, But hey.
I'm sorry i'm not GONNA say i hate to, do
this BECAUSE sometimes i do like to.
Speaker 6 (01:26:25):
DO this.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
I warned i, WARNED people, i, said listen this is.
You guys have to watch what the. Media, does like
this is what. They do they create something for us
to get us juices and get. Our juices we just
said it earlier About, the, Lakers right why are people
really tuning kind of back INTO the nba because they let.
A deal On a, SATURDAY night i was Saying That
red loster having dinner and my phone Was going, i'm
(01:26:46):
like what is? Going ON and i look and everybody's,
texting me like all my friends because they.
Speaker 6 (01:26:50):
Like.
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
You dude you just got off. The air but j'at
did to talk. About it, i'm like talk. About what
i'm just, going like Wtf the? Lakers did what the?
WHA hold, i said, all right this has Gotta be
wait's gotta be. Their jobs there's no way they traded
a d but why because they needed to create something
to bring eyes. To it there was nothing for. Women's
(01:27:11):
basketball we're sitting Here watching Texas And, south carolina two
teams that both have over thirty wins and to combine
four losses.
Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
All year loss is number One In south carolina's showing
a big, time today, blowing them.
Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Lowing them out right Now Like Don's, Don, stanley, yes
ma'am saluted to. You again so how do you.
Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
How do you sell a game in which the number
one ranked team in, The country texas has sixteen points?
Speaker 1 (01:27:34):
At halftime, i'm asking how do you? Sell? That create?
Good guy? Bad guy, come on so you've been doing this, long,
ENOUGH sir i create, good guy. Bad guy that's what's.
Gonna happen what what do? You think he's driving? A
needle basketball talk? Right now Lebron. Versus jordan jordan ain't
played in over, twenty years but they still use his
(01:27:55):
name to create this person versus. This person we don't
even talk about the. Games anymore it's all. Personal narrative
it's all, if, if if if this guy had, this
guy if this girl played with, this girl if this
and this, and this or we just want to create
two people that you. Guys hate they did It with Magic.
And bird that's HOW the nba. Came back then It
was jordan coin of versus everybody who can Knock. Off
(01:28:17):
jordan then It was Kobe and shack Against, The spurs
Kobe and shack against Against the jazz Or whatever western
time with. They create they this year they dropped the
ball by. Not creating but there was no good girl
bad girl to create, this year so it just went
by the wayside And the radis went right back to where.
They were they didn't Have An American kaylin Clark was.
(01:28:37):
American darling you're saying that they they did something that
every turn. TO or i kind of, was, Like, WOW
no i thought they Made her america's little darling and
people really. Will, attack well THE w nba didn't because
THE w nba Is gonna they have a lot of
girls there that are, like hey because on the, pro level,
LOOK college i. Don't care you.
Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
CAN create i don't want to Get That agentja wilson all.
Speaker 1 (01:28:57):
This game when you get to, the, pros though as
a rook you gotta go through the.
Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
Rook, STUFF well, i understand and she she held up
and obviously did. YOU know i thought she, had fatigue,
you know coming directly out of her college basketball season
into the w N.
Speaker 1 (01:29:09):
B a she was like two weeks all. For something it,
was like.
Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
He's crazy but as the season, went on she got her.
Legs back suddenly she's not. A.
Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
Player man i'm she may not be my cup, of
tea but she is A.
Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
Great but not recognize the, fact that, you know huge
ratings for the w N, b a no huge Ratings
For caitlin.
Speaker 1 (01:29:26):
Clark EXACTLY but i said that that's, exactly say it's
not the w N, b A It's. Caitlyn clark so
that's that's. The point they don't have that, this year
and that's Gonna, fall steve mark. My words watch the
W n ba ratings, This, year steve. Just, watch yeah,
well again let's fall right back to Watch The caitlyn.
CLARK ratings i still think that's, all well THAT that's
(01:29:47):
i still think that's. MY question i still think. That's
me is she?
Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
In?
Speaker 1 (01:29:50):
Insanity?
Speaker 6 (01:29:52):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
YET right i mean where you LIKE like i suddenly
like it's a shot, like analogy. Perfect analogy so.
Speaker 2 (01:29:59):
That's that that's so we're gonna find out with the
NEXT w nba Season Where' jeremy lena right now exactly?
All right coming up on the, other side will switch gears,
once again believe it.
Speaker 1 (01:30:08):
Or Not The Major league baseball season is only a
couple of.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
Weeks away we're gonna check in WITH our, mlb Insider
The Great John. Paul morosi This Is Fox, Sports Sunday, STEVE.
Speaker 1 (01:30:19):
Harbin.
Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
Vj, Husky Here Fox. Sports sunday we are live from
The tai Iraq dot. Com studios, all, right wow we've
been flying to this.
Speaker 1 (01:30:28):
SHOW today, I know i just leave up at.
Speaker 2 (01:30:30):
THE clock i know we're coming down. The stretch we've
done a LOT of nfl today with a LOT of.
Nba today let's check in right now WITH our, mlb.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
Insider, the one, the only the Great Job BAUB. Morosi
jp how are, You TODAY.
Speaker 6 (01:30:43):
Steven vj, i'm outstanding. Very much looking forward to the
start of the, regular season which we can actually say these. Magical,
words yes, next, week yeah. Next, week Okay let Dogs
and cubs.
Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
Are, Meeting okay but HERE'S what i.
Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
Don't get, all right so, you know it's Like the
dodgers Jess rajah vic camelback ranch on the. Breaking up
so they're going to go play these games Against the
cubs and then come back to play more. Exhibition games
please explain that.
Speaker 6 (01:31:12):
To, me well they did this actually a, year ago exact.
Same schedule, of course they visited a different country in last,
year's case It was korea where they Played the padres
and they, came back, and yes they did Play The
freeway series. After that, it is it has been done
before and of course resulted In the dodgers Winning The
world series one. Year ago so It is, you're right
(01:31:35):
it is not. Terribly common. It is it is maybe
a little, bit counterintuitive but when you live that TRAVEL
as i was part of the traveling media contingent a.
Year ago you need, the break you need the ability.
To reset and of course not every starting pitcher will
make that journey because you only have to start the,
(01:31:57):
two games so there will be an operation of players
that are still staying back at. Spring training but it
is in my experience from having the pleasure and the
privilege of Traveling to asia, multiple times it. Is important
it is important to building that buffer afterward and get
your body timed up again before you begin the. REGULAR
season i know it's, A challenge i, get that but
(01:32:20):
it's a very welcome trip that's going to help grow
the Game and i'm sure create some lifetime memories for
the twenty Twenty five dodgers In.
Speaker 5 (01:32:28):
The CUPS.
Speaker 1 (01:32:29):
Jay P Morosi vj verne hus get a big vanilla,
FUNNIER man a pleasure talking to, you man love. Your
work thank you FOR and i do, THANK you i
mean thank you so speaking Of a Dodger's former dodger
player Miss And jock peterson some Of My, texas rangers
my favorite baseball TEAM since i was. The kid two,
YEARS ago i finally tasted some cold champagne During The,
world series but then, last year injuries hit. Us hard
(01:32:49):
what do you see From? The rangers it was last
year just in kind Of A world series hangover. There
loaded we know You get jack, Young back josh youngback
who got hurt early in, the year the great young
kid at. Third BASE but i feel really good About
the rangers making, some noise getting above ninety wins and
possibly getting back To A. World series what do you
(01:33:10):
feel About The texas rangers?
Speaker 4 (01:33:11):
THIS?
Speaker 1 (01:33:11):
YEAR jp i.
Speaker 6 (01:33:12):
DID too i think that last year was an ABERRATION.
And vj, It's Rare and i'm glad you asked About,
the rangers because it's rare that a team that Won
The world series as recently as they did that we
don't talk about them as much as. We should. It's
amazing it feels as though when we have big time
national conversations about teams, in Baseball, the rangers who have
(01:33:36):
Won A world series title more recently than every team
in the sport except For, the dodgers it'll come up
as often as. They SHOULD and i think a really
important detail and development in their season happened in the
last couple, of days Which was Jacob de graham getting
back on. The, mount yes and he had some very
very positive comments about how in his best years he
(01:33:57):
wasn't necessarily throwing one hundred miles, an HOUR and i
think that was really important for me TO hear. Vj
that As de gram pitches, this year he's thirty six,
years old and you don't see a lot of guys
staying healthy and having success who are thirty six who
are trying to throw one hundred miles an hour on
most of. The fastballs it is a very difficult way
(01:34:18):
to keep herself on, The MOUND so i love the
veteran perspective that he is professing there and finding ways
to keep. Himself HEALTHIER so i think that's really. Really
encouraging they Brought Back nate evald who has been a
really important Member Of, john GRAY who i think is
in a lot of ways underrated for what he's able.
(01:34:39):
TO do i think the bullpen wi lots some. Different
Faces chris martin likely to be the closer this, time
around someone who's known and familiar there With The, texas
raiders so some newer names. Back There sean armstrong is
gonna have TO have i think a really, Important Role,
Jacob Web, robert garcia but it's a TEAM that i
think if they have a healthy year From de gram
(01:35:00):
and helped he gets us the Years from Semon, and
seeger they can easily find their. Way back and what
is a very. WINNABLE division i want.
Speaker 2 (01:35:08):
To take a step back from a term that we
have become very familiar With In Major, league baseball and
That Is tommy.
Speaker 1 (01:35:17):
John Surgery So tommy john's surgery.
Speaker 2 (01:35:21):
Has been around long enough now and literally hundreds and
hundreds of pitchers have had either one Or Multiple tommy.
JOHN surgeries, I want i want to get your thought
because you were Talking. About alcintara, you know is he
going to come Back From tommy? John surgery maybe he's
gonna get dealt and. Everything else and now You Got
garrett cole is, hurt again and so who knows what his.
(01:35:44):
Future is we went through This with Showy. You tony
the list is endless now. Of pictures we Know with
verlander he had a, year off came back. One Another,
cy young what is your Thoughts About tommy? John surgery
is it done? Too often is it sort of dismissed
or embraced as a cure all for a picture that
(01:36:07):
may or not have serious? Arm problems after all, these
years give me your appraisal of the effectiveness and the
Necessity Of tommy.
Speaker 1 (01:36:18):
JOHN surgery.
Speaker 6 (01:36:21):
I think that there is less, to say less to
debate about the efficacy of it or the importance of
it than the causes. Behind it AND what i mean
are you look at the modern GAME and i maybe referenced,
this BEFORE and i just think it's such an important
and interesting. Data point the starting pictures of the years
(01:36:44):
gone by when there was less fixation. On Velocity, Ferguson
jenkins let's see how many times it was Five Times
ferguson jenkins threw more than three, Hundred, innings yes, Three,
Hundred okay and now it's a rare time when you
might have half a dozen pitchers in the given year
(01:37:05):
get to two Hundred And ferguson jenkins five times got
to three. Hundred innings and typically in the evolution, of
athletes we, move forward we have we're finding ways to score,
more points or, more goals or or be a more.
Efficient operation, in pitching we've. Gone backwards we are throwing harder,
(01:37:27):
than ever and yet we have as many injuries in
terms of the last five or. Ten years if you
want to call it and take it over a, broader
perspective the last five to ten years have seen more
arm injuries and surgeries than any other era of the game's,
history period and that, it's, incongruous right we should not
(01:37:48):
be moving in. That DIRECTION but i think it's the
fixation on velocity, broadly speaking the high level, of training
and the chase, of stuff which is an interesting, baseball
world which is just the nastiness of the pitches and
a lot and the study OF The mlb commission basically
found that pitchers and teams incentivizing and chasing stuff results
(01:38:12):
in arms. Breaking down here but here is where it gets.
Really interesting it is the human body and the chase
for whether it's championships, or money which is of course
often a motivator for all of us. In life if
you basically tell, a, pitcher listen you can have your
health for. Ten years you're gonna stay healthy, every year
(01:38:32):
but you are going to be a back, end reliever
maybe get called up a, few times but you're gonna
spend most of that time in the, minor leagues but
you're gonna be healthy for the, whole time throwing ninety
one or ninety two miles an hour or if you
find ways to get your velocity, way up you're gonna
have two or three big. Time years you might get
(01:38:52):
five or ten million dollars in arbitration, one year and
then your arm's gonna break and you're never gonna be
able to. Pitch again, most people, i think, economically speaking
where the, second scenario you're hurt, more often but you
also maximize your earnings over a short amount of time
more than you ever would pitching in the. Minor leagues
they would take that life and, that outcome even if
it means that there are mess to get surgically repaired
(01:39:15):
a time. Or two that's what they. Would do and.
Guess what the teams like that, as well because they
wanted to get as much at least stuff as. They
can so that that's. The reason i'm not going to
say that it's every, single time the Reason For garrett
cole or, anybody individually but, broadly speaking why do we?
Have injuries it's the chase. For stuff because the chase
for stuff helps you miss a lot, of bats it
(01:39:36):
helps you make a lot, of money and so the
teams are supportive generally of this general chase for velocity.
Speaker 1 (01:39:42):
AND stuff jp that's very, well, spoken MAN and i
agree one.
Speaker 2 (01:39:47):
WITH.
Speaker 1 (01:39:48):
You jp i'm an al, Guy man I'm a rangers
fan Of grow up one Of The. East colls i'm an. Al, Guy, Tigers, Astros, Royals,
Oriols janks guardians all made the playoffs, last YEAR and
i think we could probably Say the royals And the
tigers might. Have surprised as, we Point the tiger's running
five hundred and then went on a nice little run
there saying With. The royals you're here talking to The ultimate. Tigers,
fan okay, oh, yeah, Okay okay so, so then so
(01:40:09):
tell me what team IN the al do you think
we're not? Talking about we don't. See coming Do the
rays bounce back uh? This year Do the orioles climb
higher or? Fall out who are we not talking about Aside?
The rangers we Know the range is gonna be number.
One seed Aside. The rangers who IN? The al though
you're looking, at, like hey, you guys better keep an
eye on this squad. Right here they could get to
(01:40:29):
the Wildcar The Tava.
Speaker 4 (01:40:31):
BAY.
Speaker 6 (01:40:31):
Rays bj, you said and the REASON is i like
their rotation depth that they've got, right now better than
almost anybody else In The, american league and how often
do we talk about it in spring training That the rays,
are overlooked and yet they're Gonna have shane McClanahan. COME
back I Think ryan pepio has some upside to get To,
(01:40:52):
TAS bradley i feel very very strongly. About Him shane bobs,
Is Back drew rasmus in. His back so, THEY'VE got,
i believe so really good depth in that, starting rotation
and they've had some really good spring. Training Performances curtis
Mead from australia has come UP and i think had
some some very impressive games. So Far, junior camanara who's
likely to be their their. Third Baseman so i'm impressed
(01:41:15):
by the way they've built. This roster THEIR bullpen i
think is pretty deep. As WELL and i just look
AROUND and i see concern With the yankees and. THEIR
injuries i see some concern With the orioles and. Their
injuries they just Got, grazed rodriguez who is now sidelined
for a. LITTLE while I and toronto is going to
have a pretty good ball club. As WELL but i
really like the depth of Pitching That tampa bay has
(01:41:38):
That the mariners just had a bit of an injury
scare Now With. George kirby so for a lot, OF
reasons i think that there is a clearer path To
the rays to making the playoffs than we. Ever thought and,
of course one of the interesting sidelights To the rays
season is they're playing this Year At steinbrenner field Outside.
Of tampa because of the of the damage unfortunately that
(01:41:59):
was DONE Drop A, canna field they faced a very
uncertain future of where they're going to play in the,
long term but for now they'll play A Time, burnner
FIELD and i believe they're going to have an excellent
chance to make. The postseason, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:42:10):
One final, Note here i'm going to share a story
getting back to the.
Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
Pitching situation nineteen Eighty Nine All star game Is, in
anaheim and it was my first year working on air
in radio after Leaving the. Raiders organization so they had
an old timers game back in, those days and one
of the guys that was there was The Great, warren.
Speaker 1 (01:42:29):
Spawn the winniest left hand history.
Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
Of BASEBALL so i sit down to do an Interview With,
warren SPAWN and i asked him that in nineteen sixty
three he had a twenty three and seven record, that
year but more impressive was the fact that he Led
The national league with twenty two. Complete games he actually
had two more complete Games Than sandy kofax had, that
year including that infamous game against twenty five Year Old
(01:42:52):
one marshall where they both pitched him too the, sixteenth
inning and by, the way on four days rest.
Speaker 1 (01:42:57):
After that he threw a complete Game. Shutout. WARRENS wow,
i said how is? That possible because, even.
Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
Then you know we're already seeing no guys were completing.
Twenty games now is more like that twelve, to fifteen,
you know leading the league in? Complete games and, he
said the problem is they don't.
Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
Throw enough they don't.
Speaker 2 (01:43:15):
Throw enough, HE goes i got stronger as the season,
went on. Not weaker he used to do long toss
between starts and. Everything, else yeah he didn't have the
same fastball he had when he was twenty five. Years
old he developed a screwball other pitches in. His repertoire
and as, you mentioned you know the idea of. Pitching now,
(01:43:36):
you know this is so funny about these questioning balls
and strikes now because it used to be Like The
greg mannos is the World To, tom glavins they would
expand the strike zone because again they're not trying to
throw the ball one hundred miles. An hour they're trying
to expand the. Strike zone and.
Speaker 1 (01:43:52):
That's that's how.
Speaker 6 (01:43:53):
To.
Speaker 1 (01:43:53):
Play now now you're just told throw as hard as
you can for as long as, you can.
Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
Then we'll get another live arm. In THERE so i
one hundred percent agree. With you pitching has taken a huge.
Step backwards get. Believe It During warren, spawn's time it
was still sixty feet.
Speaker 6 (01:44:10):
Six, inches right, And yeah and the one QUICK thing
i would Add on SPAH and i love The, story
steve is that Is that spawn was not throwing one
hundred miles. An, hour no he could throw. That long
he could throw in the in the, winter time and
he could keep that arm limber, and, loose which by,
the way more closely approximates a lot of the philosophies
(01:44:30):
that are Taught in. Japanese baseball and that's why we're
seeing So many japanese pitchers come here, and succeed because
it's it's the method of the pitching and the way
that they're looking at things, THAT allows, i think to
develop greater balance athleticism and harmony in the way that
you pursue your crap as opposed TO what i think
Is the, american perspective which is velocity. Is good so
(01:44:52):
if some, is good more, is better and let's just keep.
Throwing HARD and i think it's been to the detriment
of the way That the american pitching system. Is advanced
and last point about that Eighty Nine All. STAR game
i always think About This bo jackson that whole time
that's still Going And vin Scully And ronald reagan sharing
booth during the. First inning how?
Speaker 2 (01:45:09):
About that how About This rick russell starting a pitcher
For The Nation League, al sars who was a jackass by. The,
Way Anyway So, rick russell we are all Standing Around
rick russell because We Knew bo jackson was going to
lead off the game For The. American league so, we're like, you,
know so how are you going to pitch? The bow
and he's just like this big guy and, he, goes,
Yeah well i'll give. Him something he can't hit. That
thing he was a singer. Ball pitcher that thing was
(01:45:31):
almost on.
Speaker 1 (01:45:32):
The, plate Yeah and bo just. Golfed it golfed it
like four fifty dead crazy fun is.
Speaker 6 (01:45:39):
Still, Going On. BO jackson i really hope that if
you're if you're a, young person if you're under the age,
of thirty and you're listening to us, right now at
some point in time in the, next week here's your

that Documentary About bo jackson and appreciate one of the
greatest athletes our country has.
Speaker 1 (01:45:58):

NOSE right jp BOW nos i tell people all, the
time just really. Fast him he is purely the greatest
all Around athlete i've, ever Late and i'm, almost Fifty
so i'm not as old as some of these other guys,
out here but the greatest PURE athlete i ever laid my.
Eyes onto the fact that he said football was his third.
Favorite sport his first love, was track second level, was
(01:46:20):
baseball and he played football to have something.
Speaker 6 (01:46:23):
To.
Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
DO wow i hate to always have to throw my own,
stories IN but i FEEL like i have.
Speaker 1 (01:46:28):
To share, OF course i was working.
Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
For the raiders when We Drafted bo jackson and his,
First practice remember he had not played football in almost. Two,
years man right if the baseball season had ended With.
The royals he shows up at our practice facility and
elsa gundo for his first workouts in the middle of. The,
season right and he's out on the field and he's
running around two hundred and thirty plus bands runs a
(01:46:50):
four to. Two forty and so as players are leaving,
the field how long obviously one of our.
Speaker 1 (01:46:56):
STAR players i come up TO how? I go so
how does? He look, he goes.
Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
That guy's from a, different plan, different planet is not
he cannot be that big and. That fast here's no
way HE'S an. X man there's no way he can
be that big and.
Speaker 1 (01:47:11):
That fast he's. A mute.

Vincent vintage, for him, That's er that's all he.
Speaker 2 (01:58:09):
Cares About right here's my question for some of the
does NO sports nba M V p shay gilgis or
who IS your mvp IN the nba?
Speaker 1 (01:58:17):
This year it's got to, Be shame it's got it's
got TO.
Speaker 2 (01:58:20):
Be sga so you're ignoring the Fact that jokich is
about to become the first player in the history OF
the nba to be top three in the league, and
scoring rebounding and assist.
Speaker 1 (01:58:29):
And, everybody done and about to average another triple double for.
The season well because actually it's the first time he has. Done,
IT yeah, i Know but big has ever. DONE it,
I know but there's about to be another average Triple,
Double russ Russ And big o' and he did first
time ever thirty twenty twenty two. Nights ago i'm not.
Ignoring it BUT what i am is paying more attention
(01:58:49):
TO what sga is doing because a lot of people
probably thought it was a flash into pant type of
thing two, years ago and did it happened again last
year where he finished second in the M v, p
right and then he's doing it again nexty and have
the best record in.
Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
The, league okay is this one hundred percent on merit
or is there some voting fatigue as.
Speaker 1 (01:59:07):
FAR as I hate but now here's. THE thing i
believe in, voting FATIGUE but i hate. It too THAT'S
why i Always Got josh allen WITH the mvp IN
the nfl. THIS year i always get credits TO the
nhl with a, heart trophy which. Is There and gretzky
got a ninth, straight year eight. Straight, years well he's
the he's the greatest hockey Player, on earth, Right straight
so he got. EIGHT straight, I mean jordan should. Have
won they shouldn't have given it a bar late.
Speaker 2 (01:59:28):
Ninety three it shouldn't gotten it plone in ninety Seven
And david robinson.
Speaker 1 (01:59:33):
Stole, one yeah make sure we throw that one in,
There Too like jordan should HAVE. EIGHT mvp, I mean jokic.
Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
Is also shooting forty four percent threes. THIS year i
understand WHAT he's, i mean he's exceeding any numbers that
he has put up in previous m V p Ss.
Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
And shay's averaging over thirty and has the best team
in the league and probably taking his team to. The
finals WHY is usc now winning? THIS game i was
gonna point. That out guy's quick as should.
Speaker 2 (01:59:55):
Do that don't, worry you bless that Telling The eddie
bruins are going to win. This game much more, coming
up keep. It here This Is Fox SPORTS radio
Speaker 5 (02:00:07):
M
