Speaker 2 (00:08):
This is Fox Sports Saturday and we're broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio Studios VJ.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
We get bonus time this weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Wow, four hours coming up here today our normal three
hours on Sunday. So yes, we are all over the
airways here on the massive Fox Sports Radio network.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Husky and Hartman Man Husk and Harmon Hartman Husky. However
you want to say, it don't matter, man. We getting
that money and there's a lot going on. That's what's
so great about today. Man, if it felt like a Sunday, Man,
I'm a little under the weather. Woke up this morning,
went through some stuff last night in the middle of
to night. But I said, you know what, I get
to go talk sports and it's preseason football.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Baseball's popular right now.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Is so much happening to talk about, and I'd rather
do it with nobody but you so let's go.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Well, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
By the way, last night, for my TV work, I
was out of Dodgers Stadium to do my early hits
pregame hits from the stadium. A couple of things being
around the Dodgers right now. First of all, again, the
whole atmosphere of around the Dodgers, every time I met
Dodger Stadium, I understand this.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
VG.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I had a conversation with a young lady at works
local television in LA. She just got started. Her name
is Olivia Garvey. She is the daughter of Steve Garvey. Yes,
very sweet, and we were reminiscing and I was, you know,
I mean reminiscing. I was reminiscing and she was attentive.
(01:40):
So she was being very nice to the old guy
hanging out and telling stories about my history with her father.
But every time I'm at Dodger Staum, I have such
a long history at Dodger Stadium. I had just layers
after layers after layers times that I was there all
the time. But it was an interesting day because it
was August eighth.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
And when you think of the number eight.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
In the city of Los Angeles, when it comes to sports,
Kobe Bryant, It's Kobe Bryant. And so what do they
have last night? They had Kobe Bryant bobble bubble. So
I got ad and I brought it home to my
son Garrett, who you had a chance to meet. He
is a die hard Laker fan to the core. Kobe
was his all time favorite.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
And I handed over that bobblehead to him last night.
I actually saw it this morning. First thing.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, that's because you're a dope, dad man. That's why.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
What are you going to do with it? You know
what I mean? You have the memories, you have the
the the interactions. When I covered the Lakers, everything they
give away I've taken home to my children. I've kept
anything from a Ram game, Charger game, Laker game, Clipper game, Kings.
I've done the Kings in the playoffs and the regular
seem the Dodgers. Everything I've been giving accept except for
(02:54):
my Jackie Robinson felt cat. That's that's daddy's. Yeah, that's that.
I'll leave it in the wheel to camera. I'll leave
it in my will form. I haven't even worn it yet,
but that was the giveaway for Jackie Robinson night Magic
Johnson was there.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
It was star studying.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
They gave out the old school Felt Brooklyn Dodgers with
the big forty two on the side and then the
Jackie Robinson autograph on the right side, and I was like,
this is the giveaway tonight. And I've never even put it.
I've never even worn it out in public. But that's
the only thing I kept. But everything else, like you,
I give him games, I get them. Oh yeah, I
mean you want to give something that they appreciate, right,
(03:30):
you know.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
And obviously for him it was funny because his brother
saw it and he wanted to take it out of
the box.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
He goes, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Crazy stays
at the box. That's a fight. I told him.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
I said, I did have to take out of the
box the show it on TV. I put it right
back in the box. So anyway, it was it was
great to be out of the ballpark, big series. So
the Dodgers right now, they went into the series two
games up on the pod race and you're playing the
best team in the American like the Toronto Blue Jays.
And this was a classic matchup, you know, one of
those days where you go it's Clayton Kershaw versus Max Scherzer.
(04:04):
And to show you how crazy this is. September seventh,
two thousand and eight, two rookie pitchers, literally in their
first year in Major League baseball. Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers
and Max Schurzer with the Arizona Diamondbacks started a game
(04:27):
against each other on September seventh, two thousand and eight,
And here we are seventeen years later, beautiful and these
two guys, by the way, after the game, they exchanged jerseys.
They both pitched well. Surezer made one mistake to Mookie
Bats he hit it out and that was enough to
beat him.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Kershaw pitch well.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
But these two guys obviously mutual respect, future first ballot
Hall of Famers. But when you you know, this is
the thing about sports, and obviously you're like me, We're
into the history. We want to know this. You know,
we appreciate where we've been. Obviously we were very focused
on where we're going. But when you I have one
of these type of moments where you get two guys
that have just you know, the great competitors, first ballot
(05:06):
Hall of famers, both three time Cy Young Award winners,
both in the three thousand strikeout club. And to think
that they faced off as rookies, true rookies, on September seven,
two thousand and eight, and to see him back out
there seventeen years later, that was special.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Of course, it was special. But that's what the football
gods gives us. And that's something I always talk about
and preach on. Is I truly believe in the football guys. Guys,
it's not just radio jargon to attag like a saying
to my name, That's not what it is.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I really do believe.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
That sometimes in sports, the football gods take care of us, man,
and they give us these gyms, They give us this history,
they give us this longevity of players that have been
going at I'm not the biggest Lebriny knows that Lebron's
not my guy at all, but we do have a nice.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Longevity run of him.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
And Steph Right and Wurmas are the opening NBA game
game exactly opening this year. What are they gonna do?
You know what, even though I don't believe either one
of those guys are gonna win a championship along with Get,
I think those three guys, that era of championships it's gone,
but they are still the two names exactly, so still
we can go, Wow, let's go back to two thousand
and seven or two thousand and eight when they first
(06:11):
faced each other and then we had the four straight
year run in the NBA Finals against each other. And
we've had Christmas Day, We've had Martin Luther King Night,
MLK Day where they faced each other, and then and
then in the year what it is twenty one or
twenty two for Lebron and what would it be for Steph?
Isn't it like fIF fifteen or sixteen for stuff? And
here we are matching these two, as you said, first
ballot Hall of Famers.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Up against each other once again.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
It's just the sports guys, just giving us some good
stuff to watch, man, and some good stuff to take
with us. As like you said, this will be history.
This will be something we talk to our grandkids about about.
Hey man, these guys were so good for so long.
I remember when they first started out against each other,
and in year eighteen, nineteen twenty twenty one, they were
still lining up against each other from across each other,
competing on the highest level in their sport. It's the
(06:56):
sports guys, man, It's a beautiful thing. I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
I was approached by a young man yesterday down the field.
He was working for one of the Dodger outlets, and
introduced himself to me and he goes, you know, I've
been listening to you since I was a kid. Now
when he said kid, I'm thinking, okay, well maybe he
goes back to Chad forty and he goes, no, I
mean with Michael Thompson and Victor Brick.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
I'm like, your kid.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Then that was only twenty years ago, right, I'm like, okay,
that was my second act. But that for most people
listening out there, your interest in sports was passed down
to you.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
That's usually the way it goes.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
And then you pass it down and it goes generation
after generation. So you know, taking a moment to pause
and suddenly like time.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Flies are like wow, I mean it's.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Really sure's her and Kurshar At that point, even even
Curshaw said after the game, after the exchanged, Jersey goes,
you know, it was incredible that we faced off his rookies.
And then he didn't want to say our last year,
but he goes, he goes, He started to say, and
maybe our last year, but he goes, well, let's put
it this way.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Near the end of our careers to have this again.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
So it was a special night out there at Dodger Stadium.
Now I'm postponing the inevitable with my esteem partner here.
I'm delaying it a little bit because I want to
preface before we get into the overplay on what happened
yesterday to something that we spoke about last week. So
(08:22):
last Sunday, we were still talking about the Hall of
Fame game, and we were talking about the performance of
Trey Lance, and you and I both said, let's not
overplay this. Let's not all these people talking about Trey Lance.
Look out, good Trey Lance.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Look I didn't say that. I don't remember you.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
What I'm saying is, if we're going to overplay individual
performance in a preseason game, let me just start by saying,
the New England Patriots are going to win the Super
Bowl this year because they absolutely blew the doors off
the Commanders. Last I watched that game, forty eight to eighteen.
(09:13):
Absolute domination, as Mike Vrabel definitely got the Patriots back
on track. So look, I will say this about preseason football,
and this I'm sincerely believe for certain teams and certain players,
preseason matters.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
In terms of just for teams.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
That are bad, like the New England Patriots, to walk
off the field a winner, even if it's a game
that doesn't count, especially with a new coach.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
I think that matters.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I think it it allows you to go to that
next week of preparation, maybe with a little gidda up
in your steps saying Okay, yeah, we're buying into what
you're saying.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Same thing with certain players.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Especially quarterbacks that are trying to develop their game, whether
it's a new system or the rookies or whatever may
be on a new team. Yeah, it's important to get comfortable.
And so I will finally say to the name Shadoor Sanders,
and at the very least I will say this about
his performance against the Panthers. He looked comfortable, and he
(10:24):
even admitted afterwards he felt like himself. All right, now,
I'm gonna step back, because ladies and gentlemen, this is
a man on a mission to tell the world you
were wrong.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Wrong, wrong wrong if you've ever doubted shardor Sanders for
even a second. I'm not gonna do that yet, because
what I'm not gonna do is I'm not going to
overreact either way. Just like I did with Trey Lance
last week. You use the word that we both said,
what Harball makes his quarterbacks feel, and that was comfortable.
You myself and Mont sat right here and use that
(10:59):
exact same adjective. Is that he looked comfortable. Why because
that's what Jim Harball does with his quarterbacks. Now, Kevin
Stefanski won't ever be, I think touted as a quarterback whisper.
But what the man can do is coach football. That's
just bottom line. He's in Cleveland. We know what Cleveland is.
(11:19):
It's like the Royals, It's like the Charlotte Hornets. You
just don't ever believe they'll be good, because when if
you've ever seen him over the last thirty to forty years,
be good. It's hard to really look at a team,
no matter what player they have, no matter whether it's
Baker Mayfield or whether they got a great coach there,
it's the name Cleveland Browns just still kind of just
hangs on you and you're you're waiting for it to
(11:41):
go wrong. Speaking on Shador last night, you're right, he
looked comfortable. But what did people really expect? Did you
really think Shador Sanders, who was gonna go out kid
who led the nation and pass completion percentage of seventy
four percent last year through four over four thousand yards
last year like.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
It was Big Ten Player of the Year, Like the
kid balled.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Did you expect him to step on the field and
completely just throw up on himself and not know what's
going on, get shook by any coverage he saw or
any disguise he saw. There were times where now one
thing I will point on you. I've said it since
I've watched them at Jackson State. And he's got to
clean it up. And this to show you how reallyant
when I judge God's even that I love. He has
(12:21):
got to stop back pedaling out of trouble.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
He loses yard shador.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
You're gonna learn to just step up or fall down
and take the sack or throw the ball at the
lineman's feet. I get you want to make a play,
and last night you made a few doing it, But
there are also two other situations where when you did
that back pedaling trying to get out of trouble, and
you didn't throw an interception or get to take a sack.
But it just was it was a bad play, and
as an NFL quarterback, he's got to clean that up.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
But the comfortability is who the kid is.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
We keep forgetting this kid was raised in the NFL
he was raised in football. His dad is one of
the raiders all around athletes we've ever seen on Earth.
His father was not chop liver people. His dad went
through everything you can go through on and off the
field as a football player. Do you think Shador sat
(13:14):
there and just paid no attention to it? And Coach
Prime didn't didn't like poured this into his children. So
to say that he got on the field and you
look comfortable, my only rebuttal is what did you guys
expect the kid to look like? You? Guys?
Speaker 3 (13:27):
People really think this kid's trash.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
That's the thing I think that's getting me so rouled
up is that we look at him and we saw
Jackson Dart.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
We saw Jackson Dart right. Let mean like some of
these other quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
I tweeted, you know how bad teams are at picking quarterback? Steve?
The Colts have two top five pick and it last
like eight years and they.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Both still sucked. Well, look at the Jets they right there.
How many top picks do they have there?
Speaker 3 (13:51):
And they're and all their quarterbacks still are bad.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Well, they're bad because they go to bad organizations. Again,
when we when we qualify a quarterback as a bust,
and we had plenty of those over the years. First
for the picks, the majority of those guys had the ability,
of course, they had the ability to be successful. Wrong system,
wrong coach, wrong organization, wrong place, wrong time, can't pick
(14:16):
up the.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Game the time, can't pick up the game, don't adjust
to it. It's it's again.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
NFL teams.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
I believe this is far more true in the NFL
than other sports because in baseball it's a very individual sport.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
You're a hitter, you're pitcher right right.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
You know, in the NBA you can be so dominant
as an individual player. You can literally change an entire team,
even if you're surrounded by crap by yourself.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Yourself, you went forty eight games by yourself. If you've
got game, you cannot remember this.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Larry Bird his first year, the Celtics went from twenty
nine wins to sixty one. And that was the year
before they brought in Robert Parrish and Kevin Mayle. The
year before, I'm one guy thirty two more wins. But
in the NFL there's just too many moving pieces. And
if you are this is what I used to give
(15:11):
Belichick credit for, and the Patriots organization for their sustained
success over two decade period. What they did better than
any other team in the league was to identify what
it is a player does best and then this is
(15:32):
a novel idea, put.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Him in a position to succeed.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Succeed.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
So we're gonna where this is what you do well,
and so we're gonna put you in a position to
actually maximize what it is we know you do best,
so your job. No organization did that better than the
New England Patriots, and that's why they had sustained success because.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
You'd be shocked. You say, this should be obvious, and
you see a quarter back run one type of system
in college and then they run a completely different system
in the NFL, and they're shock, Wow, he's not good.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
He can't do this, and it's like he never did
give the give the Ravens credit. Right, you were running
one system for Joe Flacco and then you went to
Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson is not Joe Flacco. They changed
their system to Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Brilliant.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
It seems so obvious, and yet you'll be stunned how
many teams repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
Trying to put the old square peg in a round
hole and shock when it doesn't feel.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
And one thing else about Shador last night that I
saw too, his teammates love him. Guys, whether you like
it or not, whether you like him or not, or
you don't think that is real, you can listen. When
you coach football, you see the game from a different level.
I thought I knew the game and know the game,
but I learned it a lot more as it became
a high school football coach. Because when you're around the
(17:01):
guys every single day, and you're around the kids every
single day, it's not hard to find out who the
players like, who the players question, who the players don't
think can play like. Trust me, even on the high
school level, their guy, they're sixteen and seventeen year olds
that know that there's other sixteen sevent yeers on the
team that cannot play. They're not built for this team.
They're not built mentality wise. They don't stay late, they
don't lift long, they don't stay after practice and run
(17:23):
extra routes and just do extra drugs. Like you see
this when you see the guys know that do it,
and you see the reaction of his teammates, the coaching,
We talk about it privately away from the kids, like, yeah,
they respect that kid. Maybe one thing about making him
a captain, because we see the reaction and last night
it was organic and he didn't play a perfect game,
(17:43):
but he looked comfortable. He got the ball out of
his hands, so the receivers dropped us two first pass
and I'm sitting on the sofa like, oh God, I cannot.
Oh I don't want to have to deal with this tomorrow,
Like here's the receivers are dropping the ball to start
the game. But I think everybody, Steve was a little nervous,
I really do.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
I think because.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Everybody knew what this was. And you want to perform
well for your teammate, you want to block well for
the kid, you want you can. You could just tell
he's slowly becoming a leader on his team, and from
just the body language and everyone that kept going to
him when he would be on the sideline looking at
the iPad, all the players on the team that kept
going to him every single possession, I mean between possessions
(18:18):
and a saying whatever the were saying to him. You
look at that and you go, hey, man, this kid,
this kid might have. Is gonna take a little while
for it to all pour out. But yeah, well again
does put him a comfortable situation doing things you know
he can do, he know he can do. Why not
then as he starts to build, now you add layers,
(18:38):
just a little bit of it.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
It's a process.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
I mean, we remember Peyton Manning through twenty eight picks
as a rookie quarterback and a bad team. A year
later he's in the playoffs. So it just you know,
guys learning at a different rate, but you know steps.
And remember Dylan Gabriel did not play in this game.
He had a hamstring at the Coming up next, by
the way, it's not gonna be the Panthers, it's the
Eagles on the road, and that's a preseast. I don't
know if the Eagles are gonna show up, but it's
(19:02):
gonna be a different look and we'll get a chance
to see what Dylan Gabriel can do as well. All right,
Coming up on the other side, speaking of young quarterbacks,
the two breakout quarterbacks in the rookie year last year
with James Danis a bow Nicks, right, come rookie quarterbacks
that let their teams of the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
But the other four first round picks.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Caleb Williams, Drake May, Michael Pennix, Junior, JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
J Jason.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Right now, which one of those will be the next
breakout quarterback in the NFL?
Speaker 1 (19:35):
We're gonna tell you.
Speaker 3 (19:37):

Speaker 1 (20:55):
All right, we're getting.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Into some preseason football and you know it's a shortened schedule.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
I mean, you know, devastation again. I mean we're Shaun Slater.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
I mean yeah, I mean, it's like they just signed
him to the richest deal of any offensive lineman. He
had the injury a couple of years ago, but all
was smooth sailing the Northwestern great and he goes down.
And I went on a San Diego based radio show
on Friday yesterday and they asked me and I said, well,
(21:25):
the Spanos curse is alive and well, and if you
don't believe in curses, there there can be no other
explanation why certain organizations have these type of things happen.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Over and over and over again. But it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I mean, it's a good thing they drafted Joe all
but you know, you know, we'll move down to where
he was at Notre Dame on the left side. He
was one of the great college offensive linemen in all time.
But now all of a sudden, you're just a huge
missing piece, especially when you're trying to keep your quarterback
up right. So they're gonna have to shuffle their offensive
line and everything else. But it just it just seems
weird that certain organizations are.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Exactly just they just it's tough, really tough.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
But if there's one coach that can maneuver through this,
sure it's jim Harball. It's Jimmy Bergers. I'm telling you, guys,
when you lose a big piece, this is huge. But
don't think for one second that they don't got a
backup that they like our a guy that can step
right in or somebody. He just may not be as
good as the five they got.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
But they but they but they that means well, it's
next man in exactly to be a professional.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
There's a reason you're on this team.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
They've gotten reps in training. Cam whoever's gonna be, he's
gotten reps. He's gone up against number ones and number
two's and and he's still got four other really good
guys around him. Up front. The Chargers have one of
the best offensive lines in football, and the message is
we pound the football. So whoever they're putting in there
is a guy that knows what's expected of him, knows
what to do.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
I'm not gonna say they'll be fine because Rashaun Slater
might be a top five lineman in the NFL. Like
you said, he just got paid like it got He
just got paid like he's the best in the league. Okay,
the richest contract ever. So this is a chop liver.
This is the blogoney sandwich on the counter with no
mail for two days. He's not one of those guys.
But I do believe they will just plug next man in.
They'll still run the system. They're still gonna do what
(23:16):
hardball teams do. And you still got Herbert at quarterback.
You still got weapons. Keenan Allen comes back, which you
and I talked about months ago. We thought would be
you know, the landing spot form, but you hated to
see this. When I saw this come across my phone, dude,
I literally I literally said out loud, wtf literally out loud.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
And we talked about you want to stay healthy in
these preseason ands.
Speaker 6 (23:36):
This was in.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Practice, right, it wasn't the game Monday night practice?
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Yeah, last Thursday. I mean it again is a reminder.
We're reminded over and over and over again. I mean,
did you see the guy's leg go sideways? The kid
from Baltimore done for the year. I mean, it's done
for the year.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Just back it up.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
He button the lego sideways and Jared Verse Clyde nees
the other day practice at rams practice too.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
This is a kid who was a start as a
defensive rookie last year, who to expect big things from.
But here you are clecking knees and that's dangerous, man,
because that could be any type.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Of injury, and you know, we'll see, we'll see where
that injury turns.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Once again, we're coming alive from the Fox Sports Radio studio.
So a year ago, first time in NFL history draft history,
six quarterbacks taken in the first twelve picks. Yep, that
never happened in the history of the NFL. If you
want to remember again, Caleb Williams number one overall to
the Bears, Jade and Daniels number two overall to the
(24:34):
Commander's Drake May number three overall to the Patriots, Michael
Pennis Junior, a surprise eighth overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons.
The Minnesota Vikings at number ten, take JJ McCarthy, and
at number twelve the Denver Broncos get bow Knicks. Two
of those quarterbacks have already cemented it. Yeah, Jade and
Daniels and bow Knicks as rookies took teams that no
(24:56):
one thought were playoff teams and got to the playoffs.
So okay, both those guys you can check as okay,
they can play in this league.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
One kid got to the conference championship.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yeah, and one guy got to the conference and well
one guy honestly had one of the great rookie seasons
of many fou Yeah, all right, So now what about
the other four guys. You got Caleb Williams of the Bears,
Drake May with the Patriots, you got Michael PENNOCKX junior
with the Falcons, and he got JJ McCarthy with the Vikings.
Which one of those quarterbacks are you serious?
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Will be the one.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Because I know we're going to disagree on this, all right,
will be the one that checks the box saying he's
in Okay, I mean, and again we've seen great quarterback.
RG Three's rookie season with the then Redskins was phenomenal.
He beat remember he beat out Andrew Luck for Offensive
(25:51):
Rookie of the Year that year seven straight wins to
get his team in the playoffs, got hurt in the playoffs,
and pretty much his career was over. So there's no
guarantee movie for But I I'm gonna say, just like CJ.
Stroud two years ago, I know he took a bit
of a dip. I'm not worried about the Texans. They
got their quarterback in CJ.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Strout.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
So we're checking out Jayden Daniels and bow Knicks. Who's
the next guy?
Speaker 3 (26:11):
We say, all right, he's good. That's their quarterback.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
I'm gonna start with you, man, which one of those
four quarterbacks Caleb Williams, Drake May, Michael Pennock, Junior. JJ
McCarthy will be saying, boom, that is their quarterback for
the near future.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
This is easy for me. You already know who it is.
This is easy for me.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
This is Jay J. McCarthy. That's exactly who this is.
The kid missed last year. But trust me, guys, he
was gonna beat out Sam Donald and camp. He was
having a great preseason, he was having a great training camp.
And I said, back then, Sam Donald looked into that
spot of the starting quarterback. Now did he play well
for the first fourteen to fifteen weeks and then fell
apart like Sam Darnold does. Yes, he played great, But
(26:50):
he also played great because and JJ's gonna have the
exact same set of weapons that this man had.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
You're talking about a top five tide end.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
You're talking about a top five offensive line, you're talking
about a top five the top six running game.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
You're talking about the best receiver in football.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Is he better than Chase I tell you this.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Let me tell you this. Watching they watching him in
Borrow on those first two drives the other night.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Yeah, wow, if they stop anybody, didn't.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
You imagine that he had Joe Burrow had both those
guys in college.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
If they were not just him, they all he had
he had.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Uh. I mean, Terris the receiver Tears that was at
Caroline are the two best receivers in the league. And
he had both of them sixty touchdowns. Man. But but
I'm telling you he still got one of them in Cincinnati.
If they stop anybody this year the AFC, I can't absolutely,
but you have these weapons. And once again JJ McCarthy
(27:45):
has proven and shown time and time again, just like
we said about Chador, just like we said about Trey,
just like we said about any quarterback, put him in
a position to do what he's best at. And all
he ever has done is that he's done exactly what
he's been asked to do. And he's got a great
offensive mind head coach there that obviously could take different
(28:08):
quarterbacks to the playoffs because he keeps doing it with
the Vikings. And you're giving this kid that's got a
chip on his shoulder after missing last year. But also
remember he's one of the top recruits coming out of
high school and IMG guys, he didn't just.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Fall to Michigan.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
He wasn't a walk on, and everybody wanted him coming
out of high school. Sweeny wanted him, Smart wanted them,
Saving wanted everybody wanted.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
JJ McCarthy coming out of IMG. Guys.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
This is the same kit he is now now he's older,
more mature, had to miss last year rehab back in
the starter, first possession leads him to a field goal. Drop.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
This kid has the tools to be an.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
NFL starting quarterback and take his team to the playoffs
time and time again.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
But simply also.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Because he's got a really good offensive system, minded coach,
and he's got weapons around him. I'm not gonna blame
him for having weapons. That's what you're supposed to have
when you're a quarterback. To me, out of these guys, man,
it's easy for me, it's JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Okay, look at I'm a believer in JJ McCarthy. I
said this coming out of college. When you're on a
Jim Harbaugh team, it is a run first offense. The
quarterback's job is when we need you to make a play,
you need to deliver, and McCarthy did that. So I
don't have any questions about JJ McCarthy's ability to play
(29:22):
in this league. However, I think there is one other
quarterback on this list that I think is going to
get there first. And this may surprise people, but I'm
as much as I like JJ McCarthy, I've been in
love with this guy for a variety of reasons throughout
his collegiate career, and that is Michael Pennock's junior. When
(29:44):
you overcome the multitude of injuries he had at Indiana.
I remember at Indiana, we first got to look at
this guy and we're like, first of all, he's got
a cannon for an arm, I mean, very Michael Vick.
Like he's the left hander and he just fire. But
he was hurt and he was hurt and he was hurt,
and it's like it's it's just not going to happen.
(30:05):
Then he goes to Washington and he puts together two
phenomenal seasons and last year beat bow Knicks head to head,
or two years ago beating bo Nicks headhead twice twice
and got to the championship game. All right, I look
at the situation Atlanta and was such a weird deal
with Kirk Cousins. Why would you sign Kirk Cousins to
a deal in the draft Michael Pennick Junior, that's in
(30:27):
the rear view. The bottom line, Michael Pennix Junior is
going to be the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons and
they also play in a weaker division. This way, this
may be what I think could be the separation because
right now as it stands, JJ McCarthy is in a
much more competitive division than Michael Pennix Junior is. I
(30:48):
think once Michael Penix Junior hits the ground running. We
saw some signs of it at the end of last season.
I think this guy's going to skyrocket.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
I mean, this guy has overcome so much adversity to
get to where he is right now.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
If you had said.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
When he limped off from Indiana to go to Washington,
this guy would be a top ten pick in the
NFL draft. You're like ability, yeah, but I mean can't
stay on the field. He proved he can do it.
I'm just I'm gonna roll the dice on this one
and I'm gonna say Michael Pennix Junior is going to
be the next of these four quarterbacks. Caleb Williams again.
The bad situation right now with the Bears. I love
(31:27):
Mike Vrabel. He's going to get things right in New England,
but they got a ways to go. He saw Drake May.
Did you see this game yesterday? So Drake May through,
So you know, he didn't play a lot, but he
made a really bad decision and he fumbled and Vrabel
was asked about it and then he called him out. Yeah,
(31:49):
and he says, we can't have that. No, no, you
can't do that. And Rabel is a no nonsense guy
and he's not going to it's a perfect They should
have hired him a year ago, but anyway, they hired
him now, and I think he's that's the right guy.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
You know.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
McDaniels obviously knows what he's doing as an offensive coordinator.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
So I like what they're doing in New England. But yeah,
I'm gonna go with Michael Penick's junior. I tell you
this man, great minds, thinking light because he was the
second one I had. Yeah, I like him. I like
him as much as you do. The National Championship Game,
you would have been you went against a bunch of
nfls he did. He did that. There were much better
team Michigan was on a mission that Washington was gonna
be able to do nothing that night. And those other receivers,
(32:32):
not against that defense, not against Will Johnson, by the way,
who is locking down all.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
The receivers in Cardinals camp.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
From all the report, he is locked and that includes Maserati,
Marv locking guys.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Down and Cardinals camp.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
And and Penix just wasn't. He didn't have enough horses to
win that race, But the reasons why for me, for
JJ would be the reasons why. Also, I think Pennix
would be one B from me. You got Bijeon who
you could turn a hand into. You're throwing it, Drake,
You're throwing the pits like he's got some weapons. He's
got Morris as a coach there, who's a great defensive mind,
the guy that defense is really good in Atlanta. But
(33:06):
the only pushback I'll give you is, I think this
division ends up being better than people think it is.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
I really do.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
I think Bryce Young now, the line looked terrible against
Cleveland last night, and they're gonna have to fix that.
But I don't think you can do that in when
you're last year. Pro Football Focus had them thirty second.
And for people that don't like Pro Football Focus, fine,
find whatever publication you want to throw at me, and
I guarantee you the Panthers' offensive line were no higher
than twenty eighth.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
I guarantee it one hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
So if you don't like Pro Football Focus, fine, whatever
publications you want to give me, show me where they
had the Panthers offensive line. Most people know that they
were bad. I don't know if you can fix that
in one year. But Tampa and Baker Mayfield, I think
they're gonna have something to say in this division. You
know how division games go, even though last year the
Ravens just really stormed through the AFC North, who they
(33:52):
have trouble with both times the Steelers and the Steelers
weren't good last year. These division games is what's gonna
determine this This NFC South. And I'm with you on Pinnis.
I like the weapons I gott him and want to
be I think him. I don't believe in Drake may
I just don't. I don't believe in Caleb Williams. I
never have. When Caleb Williams was at Oklahoma, I thought
(34:13):
it was cute. It was he can move around, you
can run, he can make plays, you can improvised. And
then the Mahomes word got thrown out there, which I
hate when we do that. There's only one Patrick Mahomes.
There's one, and there's nobody else like him. Just because
someone can move around and have a side arm angle
Brett fav was throwing side angle arms guy passes back
in the nineties. Guys, you guys, some people need to
(34:34):
go do their research. We've seen this before. But Pat
Mahomes is the guy right now that's doing this. So
that's the guy we talk about. Bow Knicks proved me wrong.
Bow Nicks is legit. Sempaygne knows what he's doing. They're
gonna run the football. They have a great defense there.
I just think that division is just gonna be brutal.
So I'm with you. To me, it's JJ and Pinnix
and we'll see, you know, which one of these teams
(34:55):
work out better, like you said, because the division now,
there are people don't believe in the Packers. I do,
and there are people we won't believe in the lines
repeating you know, being good again, I do.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
So I do agree with that that division is tougher.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
But the way I'm hearing people talk right now, preseason wise,
there are people that are taking those two teams and
knocking them down, which means the Viking should move up.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Eighty three draft had three Hall of famers Lway, Marino,
Jim Kelly. Three other quarterbacks taking the first round had moments.
Tony Easton had moments he had Patriots, He let Patriots
a Super Bowl. Ken O'Brien had some moments with the Jets.
He wasn't awful awful. Todd Blackledge was awful with the Chiefs.
That was that was not good. He was the second
(35:33):
quarterback of Marino and Kelly. How many of these guys
are going to be destined to all time greats?
Speaker 3 (35:39):
We don't know.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Maybe none of them.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
But two guys got off to a good start. A
couple more, mate, check the box, all right? Coming up
on the other side, first episode of Hard Knocks in
the books the Buffalo Bills. Is this finally going to
be their year? We'll break it down. This is Fox
Sports Saturday.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Steve Harbin and BJ Husky Fox Sports Saturday. We are
live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. JJ McCarthy's on
the short end of the score right now, seven to
six to the Texans.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
But you're a command he's looking good. He's looking good.
He's looking good. Man, He's gonna be just fine. There's
a lot of these guys that are gonna be just
five right now. JJ McCarthy four seven thirty yards right now,
as Sam Howe has now taken in former Tar Hill.
Sam Howe is now taking over. JJ also had to
scramble for eight yards. So he's a guy who can move.
We already know that he's got he's got legs, he
(36:42):
can get out of trouble. They'll run a few RPOs.
And remember, also to Aaron Jones, he's got a veteran,
nine year veteran running back to be able to help
him back there pick up like he's not gonna get
blasted out of nowhere because it's running back. Didn't know
what the hell to do. He is protected as quarterbacks
should be. Steve should be protected, and so they can
do what they do. I just think he's set up nice.
(37:04):
But I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
I'm with you on Pennis though I'm not knocking Panicks.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
But these other guys, Nick, we already know Dan's we
are no but May and Caleb, I've never believed in
neither one of them.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Well, one guy that definitely has arrived is Josh Allen.
Josh Allen obviously, I mean, right now, you've got four
quarterbacks that are clearly above everybody else. You got Mahomes right,
you got Josh Allen, got Lamar Jackson, you got Joe
Burrow right.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
So those four guys are at the top.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
That's the top on the top four quarters and then
and then you know, then you get the mix, but
that those guys have separated themselves right now from the
rest of the quarterbacks in the league.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
So I'm watching the first episode of Hard Knocks. I
really haven't watched a lot of Hard Knocks in recent years,
but my son is a huge fan, so we sat
down and watched the first episode. Very predictably, it's the
Buffalo Bills, right, I guess they're They're an interesting team
because you keep asking yourself year after year after year,
(38:01):
with one of the best quarterbacks in the league, is
this finally gonna be here? Can they get past the Chiefs? Like,
you know, Josh Allen actually has a winning record in
the postseason. It's not like Lamar Jackson who's three and five.
He's seven and six, so he's won more postseason games
than he lost. He just can't beat the Chiefs, and
they were again last year an opportunity wasted. So I'm
(38:25):
watching this thing and they just the whole first episode,
whether they were talking to McDermott or whoever they were
talking to, all they were talking about was how great
Josh Allen is. Like he is the greatest. He is
the greatest of all time.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
You know, he was the MVP last year.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
They showed, you know when he was the surprise selection
over Lamar Jackson to get MVP.
Speaker 7 (38:48):
And the whole show first episode that was it. It was
just one player, coach, media person. Josh Allen's the greatest, okay,
And you know, there's nothing this guy does wrong.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
He got married, obviously he's by the way.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
He got married, as you know, to the Hailey Steinfeld girl,
the actress. And she was a classmate of my oldest
son in middle school.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Oh wow.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
They literally sat next to each other. Oh and then
she did True Grid and became a star and everything else.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
Anyway, who she is?
Speaker 2 (39:23):
So okay, So everything's good on the personal life. He's
making zillions of dollars. But can he get over the hump?
What is your gut right now? I mean, I have
said and I'm going to stay with this as far
as the Chiefs are concerned, the Chiefs are due for
a hiccup, and I feel like this is the year
it's going to happen. This is going to be the
hiccup year. I don't know if they're going to recover
from that. Hiccup, but I feel the hiccup is coming.
(39:46):
The Broncos are definitely on their way. Chargers potentially as
long as they don't lose any more offensive linemen are
on their way.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
I think the Raiders are going to be better. They're
maybe not a playoff caliberty, They're going to be better
with Pete Carroll and Ginosmith than they were last year.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
So I think the Chiefs take a step back, which
creates at least the illusion.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Of an opening in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
If you take the Chiefs out of the mix, FEJ,
which team right now do you think is the most
likely other than the Chiefs to represent the AFC in
the Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Baltimore. Baltimore's loaded. Baltimore's loaded this year.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
Remember they had some injuries last year, and they got
those guys back, and they got some young pieces of
young players that were shining last year. And now you
can see in the word new camp is these kids
have arrived. And Lamar Jackson got robbed of his third MVP.
More passing yards, more touchdowns, and less interceptions than Josh.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
The only arguments he did have Derrick Henry, and you
could make the argument maybe Henry was more valuable than
Lamar Jackson last year.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
We can't all right here? This is You're listening to
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
I rolling along here on another busy sports today, Fox
Sports Saturday. We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios. Now, I've been doing sports talk radio as
long or longer than just about everyone, and I pride
myself and the ability to articulate my thoughts. I never
(41:19):
really get flustered at all, do you. But as we
are going to the top of the hour and you
basically dismissed the Buffalo Bills while touting the Baltimore Ravens,
I suddenly ran out of time and this is how
we got.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
To the top of the hour. We can't all right here.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
This is Fox Swarts Saturday. To hear that so very
valley there, I did not can this is Fox Swart Saturday.
I mean, that is really interesting, the combination of words
that came out of my mouth in half a second.
But again, it's it's part of working with you, because
(41:59):
there are things that we are in tune with and
there are other things that were not.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
And I'm not quite sure.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
I mean, first of all, you brought up the idea
of Lamar Jackson me and robbed at the MVP he was,
and you look at his stats and he had the
best stats of any quarterback in the league. However, he
also had one of the two best running backs in
the league, and you could make an argument that Derrick
Henry was every bit as valuable to that Ravens offense
(42:30):
as was Lamar Jackson last year, as opposed to Josh Allen,
who obviously doesn't have a Derrick Henry in the backfield.
Why are you dismissing We're not the value of Derrick
Henry and what he brought to the Ravens offensive.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
I'm not devaluing it. We're not gonna make that the
reason why Lamar Jackson had a third MVP season when
he already won two MVPs without Derek Henry. Why Dereck
Henry was rushing for a gajillion yards four team that
was winning six since seven games. My man, Lamar Jackson
was getting to AFC Championship games and winning MVPs without
Derrick Henry.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
And Dereck Henry did run for nineteen hundred yards last.
Speaker 1 (43:09):
Year, which you're supposed to do if you got a
Lamar Jackson at quarterback and they're running RPO and you
got Zay my man Jay Flowers, who's the next Tyreek
Kill of this league? And I said that, I'm so
glad Ian is producing the show today because a lot
of stuff that I have said.
Speaker 3 (43:21):
Over the years on Martin and vj.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Ian has been witnessed to some of these things that
I've been saying about some of these football topics.
Speaker 3 (43:28):
And Josh Allen, his window has been closed.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
I don't get and understand why you people are still
trying to hold on to the Buffalo Bills. Their best
shot was the divisional game at Case that they lost
in overtime. That was their best team, that was their
best shot. That game got big game game paid.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
He had four touchdown catches that day from Josh Allen that.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Got that man paid to Carolina when he decided to leave.
They haven't had a team as good as that team.
But they're the ones who wanted to kick the ball
short to Tyreek Hill with the what was the eight
seconds left. They're the ones that decided to cover Travis
Kelsey in overtime with a linebacker, which hasn't worked in
ten years. But you think on this one, playing overtime
(44:13):
on the road where and guess what, he outplayed Pat
Mahomes that day. I've always admitted that that was their
best chance people to win at super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Will they still get to the playoffs, yes, Will.
Speaker 1 (44:26):
They still get to divisional games and may become a
couple of more conference ships, yes, But that team they
had that day, that was the day their championship window closed. People,
it didn't.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
They're not getting to.
Speaker 1 (44:41):
A super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
First of all, the division they're playing in this year,
the AFC East Week Week week by seasons in they
could win that division by seven games.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
I know you're hyped on the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
Of course, are the Jets of the Jets the Patriots
of the Patriots. They're awful, So you you they're go
to get home field advantage. The road to the super
Bowl is going to go through Buffalo, and that's why
they're gonna get to the super Bowl. Here's what I'm
true still trying to figure out about Lamar Jay.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
They've had home.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
Field advantage and couldn't get to the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Steve but Lamar Jackson regular season seventy and twenty four
with a career passer rating of one to oh two
in the playoffs, He's three and five of the career
passer rating of eighty four point six. The discrepancy between
Lamar Jackson regular season and postseason is dramatic. In fact,
(45:34):
there are very few quarterbacks who've been afforded multiple MVPs
where the drop off in terms of passing performance has
dropped so dramatically as that of Lamar Jackson in the postseason.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
What is the end result for both of these quarterbacks.
We can sit here and throw out all these numbers
in all these comparison, but at the end of the day,
neither one of them have gotten to a Super Bowl.
I think think this Ravens team is better than this
Bills team that we're gonna see on the field for
seventeen games this year. You still have Lamar Jackson and
hello the guy you just named and talked about. They
(46:11):
still have Derrick Henry, and they have their injured running
backs from back year back. Zave Flowers is gonna take
off this year and he bringing Now. I'm not expecting
a whole bunch from DeAndre Hopkins. I think he's more
for like November December. I don't expect much out of
him for September and October. Matter of fact, if I
were the Ravens, I'd hold him back a little bit
the first eight or nine weeks so he can, you know,
so you can have that longevity. Football beats up old guys, right,
(46:32):
so you want him deeper into the year. But this
Baltimore team and this defense, guys, this defense is going
to be mons man, This defense is gonna be monstrous
this year. All right, I'm gonna get more.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
I just gave you the comparison of the passing stats
regular season postseason for Lamar Jackson Josh Allen, who has
a seven and six postseason record seventy six and thirty
four during the regular season. His regular season passer rating
is ninety three point four. His postseason is one oh
one point seven. He's a better quarterback in the postseason
(47:04):
than he is in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
Think about this.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
He's had thirteen starts, twenty five touchdowns, four picks. You
just mentioned he outplayed Patrick mah did, Okay, so he is.
He has shown the ability to play at a much
higher level in the postseason so far than Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 1 (47:23):
And that's the.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
Difference between Because quarterbacks are ultimately responsible to get your
team to the big game.
Speaker 3 (47:30):
Jalen Hurts has proven himself.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
He's done it twice.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
Right, He's proven himself that he is a quarterback and
could come up and deliver and get his team into
the big game.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
That's what I'm looking at. That's when I'm judging quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
This is not to say that Lamar Jackson's got a
He's not going to get a spot in Canada Ohio.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
Because everyone that's won multiple MVPs has gotten to the
Hall of Fame. He is that level of quarterback. But
we're not talking about that. We're talking about getting the
team to the Super Bowl. And based on his post
season performance to date, Josh Allen has shown that he
has a much better opportunity to get to the postseason
(48:09):
right now than Lamar Jackson the Ravens.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
I know it's early, and this was my pick last year.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
As matter of fact, shout out to my Man Ian
and here doing the producer again because Ian and I
were the only two talent here. You know, we put
the sheet outside and everybody picks we're the only two
guys and all the Fox Sports ready who picked the
Eagles in August last year to win the Super Bowl
My pick was Ravens and Eagles, and I got pretty
damn close. I might lean that way again this year.
I am gonna say right now, I'll put the Ravens
(48:36):
in the AFC Championship Game for sure. Right now as
we sit here on August the ninth, they're going to
the AFC Championship Game this year. This team is, this
team is really, really really good. They have a really
really good coaching staff. Their special teams is gonna be
better this year. They're healthy this year. The defense, all
the younger guys that were spot, you know, star play
(48:58):
last year are now more season and more veteran wise
and more. Then you got guys like Derrick Henry who's
a VET, A Lamar Jackson who's a VET. Kyle Hamilton
is gonna just shut this secondary down. Good luck trying
to throw the ball on Baltimore this year. And then
you have some guys on the ends and on the
defensive line that are be back from injury this year
also too, that are going to produce. When I look
(49:20):
at Buffalo, first of all, I think, and I know
he's probably gonna surprised to hear me say this, I
think the Jets will be better than people think they
will because I believe in Aaron Glenn.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
I believe in Aaron Glenn. They still got a defense.
Speaker 1 (49:30):
Ladies and gentlemen. I don't know about the quarterback position,
but you know how I feel about Justin Fils, right,
Justin Fils is my guy. I've always spoke highly about
Justin Filds, and he's there now. I know he played
for them by mass Jets, but Justin Phills is still
my guy just because he's there. To me, I don't
like him anymore. I just don't hope he wins a
whole line, and definitely don't hope he beats my Dolphins.
But I think that the AFC is more loaded this
(49:51):
year than it's been in the last decade. You look
at the Wes alone. We can't pick a team. And
I'm gonna tell you something. I watched The Raiders the
other night. Raiders the other night, by.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
The way to hear about Gino Smith and Max crossby
getting into the Seattle fans.
Speaker 3 (50:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
But Pete Carroll, I'm giving you prose because you've been
on this. We talk about energy, we talk about body language.
He has injected himself. Yes, seventy creditability much of it,
and it and you you have no choice but to
just engulf in it. And they do have a quarterback that,
(50:29):
once again, he just does what you ask him.
Speaker 2 (50:32):
To do and he throws the ball accurately. And I
never thought Gino Smith was going to be this type
of quarterback. Here, can I get back to the Ravens.
Speaker 1 (50:39):
For a moment.
Speaker 2 (50:41):
Sure, Here's what is unexplained to me about John Harbaugh
as a head coach. With Joe Flacco as his quarterback,
he was ten and five in the postseason. With Lamar
Jackson at quarterback, he's three and five. So why was
he so successful? You realize that in every year the
six years that he had Joe Flacco as his quarterback,
(51:04):
they won at least one game. All six years, they
never had a won and done so. Ten and five
with Joe Flacco, whose numbers don't even sniff Lamar Jackson's
regular season numbers, but ten and five in the postseason
with Joe Flacco. Three and five in the postseason with
Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
Different teams, different teams.
Speaker 1 (51:26):
That team also with flame coach, I know, but you're
also talking Torell Suggs. You're talking guys like Ray Lewis
and guys like Jacobe Jones. They were different guys there
for Flacco than what Lamar. We went back again and
if had to rebuild this age also to around Lamar
hosting the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Right, the play
call was terrible. It was terrible play call. It suddenly
(51:48):
was talking about John Harball forgot how to coach. They
wanted to And I said this when we came on
air to follow at home. I knew at some point
the talk would get to these about Oh, Lamar Jackson's
gotta be No, Lamar Jackson needs to be who Lamar
Jackson is. That game felt like they were trying to
(52:08):
prove to the.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
World that he was better than Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
That he was better than Mahomes and he can throw
from the pocket. No, you let him run ballistic, you
let him carry it fifteen times if you have to,
you solely put it on him that day. I don't
have a problem with the coach going to the star
guy in the AFC Championship game and saying, no matter
(52:31):
what happens, you gotta be the one to go get
this one. Today. We've seen Joe Burrow do it We've
seen Patrick Mahomes do it. We've seen Tom Brady do it.
When the chips are on the table. Yes you got
a good receiver, Yes you got a good tight end.
Yes you got a good middle linebacker or dominic d lineman.
But in the sport of football, when you get to
(52:52):
the conference championship game, it's the one game right before
the holy grail of the sport that quarterback man gotta go.
You gotta go get this one today. I don't care
what everybody else does, you go get one. It felt
like they wanted to show well we could compete. The
game was seventeen fourteen, and what like the Chiefs went
(53:14):
in there and threw up a bunch of points and
then remember Baltimore fumbles going into the end zone. Let's
not act like the Chiefs went in there and just
kick their ass up and down the field, because that
was not the case. Baltimore's defense shut Pat Mahomes in
that offense down. But for some reason, on the offensive
side of the ball, they decide we're gonna throw a
lot of passes, and we're gonna pass more than we're run.
(53:37):
You've led the league in rushing the last twenty four
months leading up to that game. The last two years,
you are the number one rushing team in the league,
and in the conference championship game with the most dangerous
quarterback in the league as far as legs go, you
decide we're gonna throw more? Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (53:58):
It was?
Speaker 3 (53:59):
I'm not putting that on Lar. I'm not putting come again.
Speaker 2 (54:02):
Well they no, but I'm putting in on John Harbaugh. Okay,
I'm putting it on John Harball.
Speaker 3 (54:07):
All right.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
So the guy I was.
Speaker 2 (54:08):
Able to win ten postseason games with a guy like
Joe Flacco cannot win with Lamar Jacksons running backs. All
I know is the guy showed up in the postseason.
He never named a Pro Bowl. Zero, forget All Pro.
He never even got to a single Pro Bowl. Uncle
Uncle Flacco with a ten and five postseason record with
(54:28):
the Ravens. All right, coming up on the other side,
can one player change the dynamic of a team? Well,
we've talked many examples of guys that can, you know,
come in and bring a team success.
Speaker 1 (54:39):
But I'm going to tell you about a player.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
That ruined a franchise in the NFL and you probably
have forgotten about him, But we'll explain why he deserves
to be remembered for ruining a franchise. This is Fox
Sports Saturday, Harbin Husky, Fox Sports Saturday, coming live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios for the best pregame show
(55:03):
every weekend. Be sure to tune into Fox Sports Radio's Countdown,
presented by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday morning nine
am to noon Eastern six to nine am Pacific, counting
down all the biggest games turn in a Countdown presented
by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday morning right here
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
And the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
In this that show, like all the other shows here
on Fox Sports Radio, are going to go next level
in just a few weeks as we get ready for
the start of the NFL season. Wait, all right, So
we've talked a lot about players that can turn around
the fortunes good or bad for any kind of sports franchise,
(55:46):
but especially in the National Football League. But I don't
think there's ever been, at least in the last decade
plus one player would do more damage to a franchise
than this play. I'm so interested to see who you're
to the player I am going to say, is Andrew
Luck Andrew Luck what destroyed the Indianapolis Colts If you
(56:11):
don't know the story about Andrew Luck. So after Peyton
Manning's what appear to be career ending neck injury, they
bottomed out after being obviously a perennial playoff team with
Peyton Manning, they ended up with the number one pick
in the draft. They took Andrew Luck, who had the
most type of any quarterback since probably Peyton Manning in
(56:33):
terms of his ability to be ready day one, and
guess what, he was ready day one. They immediately jumped
back into the playoffs, and then after missing the twenty
seventeen season, Andrew Luck returned better than ever in twenty eighteen,
started all sixteen games, led the Colts right back into
the playoffs. Twenty nine years old, He's got years ahead
(56:54):
of him. And Andrew Luck retired since then. Here's the
history of the Indianapolis Colts. Quarterback so Lux last year
started every game in twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen starting quarterback
Jacoby Brissett twenty twenty, Philip Rivers twenty twenty one, Carson
Wentz twenty twenty two, Matt Ryan twenty twenty three, used
(57:17):
the fourth overall picking Anthony Richardson. Gardner Minshew starts thirteen games.
They put Richardson in last year, and who takes over
Joe Flacco at the end, and now Richardson is hurt
again and looks like it's going to be Daniel Jones.
So add up the quarterbacks. I also can throw in
names like Brian Hoyer started a game, Sam Ellener Bros.
(57:38):
Start Nick Foles. That's won two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight nine. Ten Quarterbacks Philip Rivers I said, Phillohobers twenty twenty,
Rivers in twenty, Wentz in twenty one.
Speaker 3 (57:50):
By the way, Bobo's Dota.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
So this team has been in complete disarray with their quarterback.
Remember they had Rivers per year he retires, They had
Wentz for a year.
Speaker 1 (58:00):
It didn't work. They bringing Matt Ryan right, it did
not work the ice you know.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Then they have the fourth overall pick. They use it
on Anthony Richardson. They were forced to use Gardner Minshew
last year. They had a dust off Joe Flacco to
bring him back, and now they bring in Daniel Jones.
Andrew Lucke should still be playing in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (58:20):
I'm not with this should be playing in the NFL.
Think about this. You know what the year this would
be for him. This would be year fourteen in his
NFL career. He would still be an elite quarterback in
this league. But Andrew Leck's decision to hang it up.
Now he's the general manager of the Stanford football team.
Destroy the Annapolis Colts because once again they are at
(58:41):
square one with their quarterback situation, and they're turning to,
of all people, Daniel Jones to save the day. I
told you the other I told you the other night.
I tweeted, I'm watching this preseason game, and I said,
you know how bad teams are picking quarterbacks. The Colts
have two top five picks in the last seven eight
(59:03):
years on their roster right now, and they both still suck.
They neither one of these guys are good. And that's
the reason why they're gonna be a six or seven
win team. They don't have a quarterback. Now, I think
it's hilarious that you're blaming you love this is one
of your wildest takes. It's not a wild take, one
of your wild.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
Never recovered from this guy.
Speaker 1 (59:25):
Why about they blaming Andrew for that injury?
Speaker 3 (59:28):
Oh No, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
That was he came back from injury, was healthy the
entire season, got in the playoffs, won a playoff game
in twenty eighteen. He had decided this. Andrew Luck was
always a different guy, right, He was, you know, cerebral,
right right, and he and he and he sort of
indicated that he was not gonna be one of those
guys who was going to play forever, like a Tom
Brady or Aaron Rodgers or pretty much every other quarterback
(59:51):
in the history of the NFL that had ability. No, no, no,
Andrew Luck at twenty nine, after the Colts got him
back and running so he could started an entire season,
looked as good as ever, and then he walks away
from the game, walked away, whatever his reasons may be.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
You know, everyone.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
Has a choice in life. I believe in that.
Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:00:13):
But they were not ready for him to quit at
that point, and they haven't been able to come with
the answer ever since.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
Okay, so can you say the same thing about two
other guys that just popped in my brain that prematurely
walked away and it shattered their franchises. I'll let you
try to guess him.
Speaker 3 (01:00:32):
These are quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
No, no, but they were they were that, and they
were that damn important. And when they both walked away,
a shocked the world and those franchises never recovered. All right.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
So Barry Sanders, yes, Barry Sanders, Yes, that's one. The
other one, let's go back to the sixties. Jim Brown.
Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
Well, but Jim Brown Brown still kept winning. The Lions,
who were a marginal team, definitely fell off the cliff.
The brown still they had Lee Roy Kelly Hall of
Fame running back at place, and he wasn't Jim Brown.
Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
Right, they continue to win. But how many people actually
know that you're Steve Harmon, you're walking sports sports amine.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Okay, two guys, and wide the way at the top.
But the Browns didn't fall off the map. But yes
the Lions did. Yeah, so could you say it came
out nowhere about them too?
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
But Andrew Lucks a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
And now now that we are seven years later, look
at this revolving door quarterback two, three, four.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. That's gonna be eleven.
When Daniel Jones starts, that will be eleventh quarterback starting.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
Is what happens.
Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
Though, if you look at the forty nine Ers.
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
They were lucky that they trade Montana after Leonard Marshall
tried to knock him into the next year in the
conference championship game on a blind side hit. They were
lucky to get Steve Young. But after Steve Young, they
went through a bunch of garbage. Damn Marino. Here I
am saying here that you want to talk about a
guy that knows about a revolving door at quarterback?
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
Saying right, I mean their quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:02:04):
This is what happens when you got greatness, and greatness
walks out the door.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
You think you can just replace people in life, you know,
and adors the Packers.
Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
Well, yeah, the pack there, they were anomaly there, anomaly
that can just for some reason keep drafting the right guy.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Well, but they draft them ahead of things, you know.
They was like, why are you drafting Aaron Rodgers when
he had stelled BRep fark.
Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
Right, you know why at the back end of the
first round, right at the first round and they moved
ups is like, what are you doing to me? That's
smart though, That's called prudent planning, Like you have to
get rid of guys, you have to plan ahead instead
of being reaction area and that's what happens. The most
(01:02:49):
famous stories the Boston Celtics. They held on to Age
and Bird and Micheale and on those guys just way
too long when they should have moved on from him,
and it just snaked bit the friend. Then then Lynn
Bias dies, right, they think they got their replacement in
Lynn Bias. He dies of a cocaine overdose in a
door room at University of Maryland. Like you have this
(01:03:10):
time where you can see it coming smart teams. We
talked about the Patriots in the first hour, why they
were so good, all the little things. You know what
Bill Belichick is, Remember the top Remember they cut lawyer Maloy.
You guys, remember they did right before opening people opening
the kick off the open the kickoff week, and people
are like, what the they knew what they were doing.
Tell me what lawyer Marloy ever did after that, guys,
(01:03:31):
tell me what type of career he had. The Patriots
sawed early, and they had a younger safety and younger
guys that they thought they can pay a cheaper contract
to that can still do the same damn job. At
that time, they drafted Ty Law out of Michigan who
had a pick six off of Kurt Warner in the
Super Bowl and cemented himself as a Hall of Famer
with all the great plays in the years that he's
(01:03:52):
had in the NFL. But you, this is smart, prudent planning.
But teams just tend to hold on two quarterbacks just
way too long. Seattle is another one I could think
of that held on the Russell Wilson way too long.
You got a little lucky with Gino. But now he's
out the door. And look who y're too. Now your too,
Sam Darnold as your starting quarterback. But I sat on
(01:04:15):
this network and said years ago, at least three or
four years ago, Russell Wilson, you better move on from him.
The guy don't got it no more. We get caught
up in the name Steve. And this is one thing
I'm not gonna do this NFL season. I'm making a
VJ proclamation. The one thing I won't do all year long.
I'm not getting caught up on people's name. Steve. I'm
gonna just I'm gonna put the tape on. I don't
care what your name is this year. If the tape
says that you're done, then the film don't lie. Now,
(01:04:37):
by the way, and you mentioned New England. I remember
another non quarterback that they picked up, First team All
Pro year, Hall of Famer Drel Reeves. We had an
unbelievable year for New England that year. It was a
year whe they won. Uh it wasn't Defense player of
the Year that year. But he had a great year
that one year with New England and they won the
(01:04:59):
Super Bowl. And there's like, okay, he said they didn't
sign him. No, they decided he was done. You're done.
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
He goes back to the Jets. He was never the
same play, never the same player.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
They saw it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
But that that's that's again.
Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
Might want I keep harping on the Patriots, but there's
a reason why you can be successful over two decades period.
Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
Here's the other thing is they would admit mistakes.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
Yep, it didn't matter if you were a top three
round pick and you don't fit, they're not gonna hold
on You say, well, you know, give him some more time.
Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
No more time.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
We can recognize instantly we made a mistake. Same thing
with free agents. They might sign a guy to a contract.
No it's not him, and they got rid of him.
That's that's that is such a big part of it,
you know, because again he's had these short windows in
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
But the problem again for the Colts is Andrew.
Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
Look, I'm sorry, I'm Steve. Maybe they should have protected
him better.
Speaker 8 (01:05:53):
If him leaving was gonna gut their franchise, I should
have actually drafted offensive moodment.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
And Andrew Luck basically told everybody from the get go,
from the get go that he was not going to
be one of these quarterbacks who was going to you know,
he was very cerebral.
Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
He went to Stanford.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
Remember he stayed an extra year at Stanford because he
would have been the first pick in the draft of
the year before, but he decided to stay another year
because well, he just wanted that Stanford education. It wasn't like, well,
I'm searching for a national He didn't say any of that.
He just walked about, there's more than I want to
do with my studies and everything else. So there was
the warning out there. But what really hit the Colts
was is that he misses the twenty seventeen season. He
(01:06:33):
comes back from that looked as good as ever, got
to the playoffs, won a playoff game. You're like, all right,
we're good. Twenty nine years old and then he said, yeah,
I'm done so and remember he did it. It wasn't
right after the season, was like before the next season,
and they were like, what happened if they had Persett?
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
Remember Bersett had filled.
Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
In in his end of year.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
And then they went out, They got Philip Rivers on
a one year rental.
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
Then they went for Wins, then they went for Matt Ryan,
and now they just the Anthony Richardson drafting was just
a catastrophe. It was because the idea that this is
again when you fall in love with a guy at
the combine, Because Anthony Richardson is an amazing athlete, But
you can't be a quarterback that completes fifty something percent
in your one year of playing college ball and think
(01:07:19):
that's gonna produce. Well, you know, Josh Allen was a
fifty eight percent passer. Okay, Well, there are exceptions to
every rule, but by and large, if you're a fifty
percent passer at the collegiate level, the idea that you're
gonna be a sixty five percent passer in the NFL
is outside of Josh Allen just does not happen.
Speaker 1 (01:07:37):
Well, first of all, if once again, if you put
the tape on, you can see Josh Allen's talent. If
you put on the Wyoming tape, you can see the talent.
And I, for one, I like big quarterbacks that play
in cold weather because if you come in the NFL,
you're gonna need that. And when Buffalo drafted him, if
you guys, remember Milk hyper was the biggest, the biggest
(01:07:57):
pomp pomp chair for Josh Allon. He was coming out
of Wyoming. People thought he was crazy, but he goes. Guys,
you have to understand when you put tape on it.
It was my thing about Zach Wilson. Don't show me
a Pro day throw running the other direction, throwing in
eighty yards across his body. That you're not gonna do
that on Sundays. Put the tape on, though, and when
(01:08:18):
you put on the nineteen tape, it's bad. The twenty
twenty tape during COVID where not everybody played. His best
game was against Coastal Carolina in the ball game and
they couldn't win that game and he couldn't move the
ball against that defense. Who put one guy in the
NFL on that from that programm in like ten years
off the defensive side of the ball that started an
NFL game.
Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
So you're right, we fall in love with the combine.
But if you go put on Anthony.
Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
Rich's Florida tape, it's not good, people, It's average at best.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
He definitely should have came back. Now, I get it.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
If you know the story of him, his brother, and
his mother, I get it. Get to the league, get
that money, generational wealth, set your family up. I will
never tell another grow as man not to go get
his money to take care of his family, whether that's
little brother, little sister, mom, dad, auntie, amuela, grandpa, whoever.
I ain't never gonna tell nobody not to go get
(01:09:11):
no money. But when you get there, you got it.
He almost just looks like he's just not even interested
in being that good. He doesn't.
Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
He looks like the same quarterback that was at Florida.
Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
I can't put on Florida.
Speaker 3 (01:09:23):
He is regrets. No, you're just seeing more of it.
I think I think he looks just like the same
kid f when he first got a look, he showed promise.
Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
Well you could show promise when the pros don't have
tape on you. And I always say this about the NFL.
Once coaches get tape on you. Now, we're gonna find
out how good you really are. Because to me, a
guy like CJ. Stroud, I'm gonna openly say it. And
I called his high school games when he was out
here out in Rancho, way out in the Inland Empire,
out here in high school. I haven't seen his kids
since he was seventeen years old. He's gonna take another
(01:09:54):
step back. Teams have tape on him now. And you
saw it a little bit last year. Is the stuff
on this thing didn't work because he got hurt. Nico
got hurt, all his weapons taking now all his weapons
got hurt, and you start to kind of see, okay
once again, not gonna say a guy doesn't any weapons,
because you do. But I still need to be able
to see that you have that it factor, like you
have that ability. And I just don't think you see
(01:10:16):
what guys with some of their weapons started to get
a little depleted around them.
Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
And it's here's the thing got me about. I just
don't think he's gonna be great.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
I think when I saw when I saw him in
that game against Georgia, oh right, I was like, is
anyone paying attention?
Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
Four touchdowns, no picks, three hundred and.
Speaker 1 (01:10:36):
Forty eight yards pass.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
They lose forty two to forty one against the dominant
Georgia team. He was running in that game and was
showing I'm like, hello, anybody paying attention. And then you
remember we were hearing all that Levis was gonna go
number two overall and that screwed up on his tesk,
you know, and he well, you know, they ignored all that,
(01:10:59):
and they took him and Anderson great picks and next
thing you know, boom, they're in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:11:03):
Well interesting, see j Stroude is very interesting though.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
We'll see we're gonna be exactly want to find out
this year Vince Young, People forget this about Vince Young.
He comes out. I mean, Vince Young, you.
Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
Talk about hype for a college quarterback, right, I mean,
they're no greater hype.
Speaker 8 (01:11:18):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
He was offensive rookie.
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
Of the Year and teams figured him out because he
could not do anything rolling.
Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
To his left at all at all. He didn't know
how to get his hips turn everything.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
He was going to his right. If you watch the
game against USC the National Championship, it's all to the right.
He's going to the right. And all of a sudden,
all the NFL teams do to steer him to his left,
and he was gone.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
He couldn't do anything. And that's what I mean by
getting tape on.
Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
You.
Speaker 1 (01:11:47):
Once teams get tapes on, you look man at the
quarterback position, you can just see it. I don't understand
why it's so hard for certain fans, and I get it.
With certain fans. You fall in love with the guy
that's wearing your helmet on Sundays, that matches the shirt
or a hoodie or the pajama pants or the shorts
or whatever you're wearing. The support your team. I get it,
But at some point you have to take those blinders
(01:12:07):
off and just look at a player and put the
tape on, because tape is never going to lie. And
when you look at guys footwork, when you look at
guy's eyes, when they show replays from the end zone camera,
watch a quarterback's eyes if their eyes are jittery all
over the place. Guys, he has no idea what he's
looking at. And now he's just guest throwing. He's hoping
(01:12:27):
this guy's gonna be there. He's hoping this receiver is
gonna be there. He doesn't know because he can't read.
You have to be able to read. Anthony Richardson is six'
five two forty, five like he's a. Monster but you
can't just hike him the ball and run them every.
Down this isn't.
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
College he's gonna get himself.
Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
Hurt and what someone told, HIM i forget what it,
was but it was a veteran his rookie year AFTER
i think like the third or fourth game where they
had a moment in the middle of the field and someone, said,
hey what'd you say to? Them he. GOES i told
him he's gonna be. Good you have to keep working,
hard but get out of, bounce get down and save.
Yourself you're you're lowering your shy get, it. Kiddo but
you know it was, like these guys will knock you.
Out these guys will put you on the. Sideline Tim
tebow right. Right Tim tebow is the same. WAY i,
(01:13:07):
mean he could run over people at THE layl, level
but he can't do that in THE. Nfl all, right once,
again we're alive from The Fox Sports radio. Studios SO
i threw a curveball To vjay with My Andrew luck
has just destroyed The colts.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Organization now he's going to return the. FAVOR i don't
know with, what but he's going to return the. Favor
this Is Fox Sports, Saturday harbin And, Husky Fox Sports
Saturday live from The Fox Sports radio. Studios All, RIGHT
i Threw andrew luck is a man that destroyed The
Indianapolis colts.
Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
Franchise you were stunned by. That now you say you
got something from, ME.
Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
I do got something for, you. Man All, right we
talked About Joe. Burrow m kids.
Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
PHENOMENAL i, mean this, kid this, KID i, mean, listen
it's a toss up in my, eyes who could be
the second best quarterback in? FOOTBALL i, think, Respectfully i'm
gonna still Say. Mahomes i'm gonna still give it the.
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
PATH i like how you say that respectfully because, respectfully you.
Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
Know when you look at his, record it's.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
Hard last two years it's been they've been.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Winning but as far as the ability just to play the,
game Right, joe, goodness gracious, man that. Guy and then
once again you're throwing. Too As steve AND i both,
agree ONE b ONE. A however you want it to, Be,
guys if someone told, me if somebody told me That
Jamar chase is the best receiver. FOOTBALL i don't have
a lot to argue but about, well as long as
you're telling, me, right thank. You as long as you
tell me That jefferson is like ONE. B all, right,
(01:14:32):
Cool let's move on to the next. Topic we don't
have to go back and forth between ONE a and ONE.
B BUT i look At, BURROW i look at this.
DEFENSE i look at this, team and it. Strokes it
really strikes something near and dear to my heart THAT
i had to grow up watching as a kid Loving
Mi Miami. Dolphins mm. Hm and that Was Dan, Marino,
yeah who in any given year was the best quarterback in.
(01:14:55):
Football apps was the best quarterback guys you can get
Me lway And montana and all these, guys and even
When aikman came.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
Along who was super. Accurate BUT i think they had.
Teams all those guys had.
Speaker 1 (01:15:05):
TEAMS i watched a ton Of Miami dolphin forty one
thirty eight losses in my, lifetime thirty six thirty. Two
it Wasn't Damn marino. Guys he'd go out there and
throw thirty on the. Board whether it Was Tony mahr
And Mark, Duper Mark, CLAYTON oj, McDuffie L Ronde. Gads
THEN i can name them all Day Keith jackson they
(01:15:26):
got in the midseason trade from The eagles one. YEAR
i could name them all day. Long but you just
knew he's gonna have to score thirty plus for you
for you to have a shot to win that. Day
AND i look At Joe burrow and the QUESTION i
want to throw to you and ask, you Is Joe
burrow gonna end up Being Dan marino Because, marino Like,
(01:15:51):
burrow got Two Super bowl early lost.
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
To just a better.
Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
Team San francisco was better with The rams Were burrow's
up in that. Game marino was never up in his.
Game they lost that game by double, digits But burrow was.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Up you, know he had a.
Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
Lead he was doing his part going Against Aaron donald
in that. Defense but when it's all said and, done
are we gonna look At Joe burrow as this? Guy
because you talk about The bengals ownership And Wayne, Heinzinger
lord rest is. Soul that was my guy BECAUSE i
was a, kid And Joe Robbie stadium and all. That
BUT i can't remember where they ever really ever tried
to truly Help Dann marino and bring in big name
(01:16:28):
guys and made great traf picks to Help.
Speaker 3 (01:16:31):
Dan marino, out and they just never.
Speaker 1 (01:16:32):
Did my question for you and everyone listening when it's
all said and, done Is Joe burrow gonna end up
being this Heirs Damn?
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Marino he could very well. Be and you know when
you Mentioned Dann.
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
Marino first of, all my first eyewitness To marino was
the first YEAR i worked for The, raiders nineteen eighty.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
Four did you KNOW i worked for The.
Speaker 1 (01:16:53):
RAIDERS i did not know. That so we go down To.
Speaker 3 (01:16:55):
Miami miami was twelve and. One they had started the
year eleven and.
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
Zero this was the hear That marino shattered at shattered
THE nfl record books. SHATTERED i, mean he went forty
eight touchdowns when the record was thirty six. Yards so
we go down To miami and we win this. Game
we needed this, game And Mike haynes had a ninety
seven yard interception for a. Touchdown but in that, Game
(01:17:19):
marino throws for four thirty four and four. Touchdowns So
i'm on the bus as we're heading back to the
airport And Lester, hayes who should be in The hall
Of fame comes back and He Mark clayton just ate him.
Speaker 3 (01:17:31):
Alive and he goes and he said he was a
bit of a. Stuttery CAN i CAN i?
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
See CAN i see the? NUMBERS i, go you don't
want to see that.
Speaker 6 (01:17:41):
It AND i.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
Because at that time The chargers With Dan, fous you
know That Eric coriel was unstoppable.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
Offense And lester looked at me and he, said.
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
This guy's. Better, yep and he.
Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
Was every pass was right.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
There when you ask quarterbacks that played in that era
who was the best, quarterback they will all tell.
Speaker 1 (01:18:07):
You Dan marina was the best. Quarterback and it Wasn't Dan.
Marina it Wasn't john L, way it Wasn't Joe, montana
it was none of those. Guys the best actual quarterback
in terms of throwing the football playing the position Was
Dan marino and it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (01:18:24):
Close and that's all we could say About Joe.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Burrow as great As Patrick mahomes, is he is the
goat right now With Tom, brady but he is the
guy because of the all the, Numbers Joe burrow is
a better quarterback in terms of throwing the.
Speaker 1 (01:18:39):
Ball what he can. Do the difference that he can.
Make he's, bigger he's, bigger he's. Stronger he throws a.
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
He, does he's got a bigger.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
Arm he does it just you, know because again the Problem,
reno they didn't have any consistency with a running game.
Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
At, all never had never had a thousand yard.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
Rusher they were just stagnant all those. Years they never
ever were a to put the right pieces. Together but
when you, Again i'll go by those to play the
game forget my, right those that played the, game quarterbacks
who understand the position.
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
Of that, era they will all tell you the best
quarterback Was Damn. Marino and there's the reason why he
still fits in some people's like top five or. Six
so without a Super bowl, ring without a, ring yes
you can't make a serious. Quarterback all time lists And
marinos outside of like the top six when the when
(01:19:32):
THE nfl or you, know the top one, hundred, Right
marina was on that. List.
Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
Absolutely there were people that were surprised at certain guys
were not on that, list like A Drew brees or
something like.
Speaker 1 (01:19:40):
That no, no, no, no, no, no no no no.
No drew was a. Listen And i'm not trying to Knock, drew,
guys But Drew champagne, system drop, back get it out.
Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
Quick Dann marino was the. System and When Jimmy johnson came.
Speaker 1 (01:19:53):
In if you guys remember, That Jimmy reed gets fired
from The, cowboys takes a few years, off takes The dolphins. Job,
hey and he Drafts kareem Abdul jabbar from your alma
mater at.
Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
The running back, position and we're gonna run the.
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Football, well that never worked because by the time they
got to the third and fourth, quarter they.
Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
Were always down.
Speaker 1 (01:20:12):
Ten and he even said it in an interview in
a documentary AND i Watched What's, on we SAID i
had to humble myself BECAUSE i had to keep going
To dan and, Saying, okay can you go get me
this one? Again like, no it's what you should have been,
doing is just lat And dan go get it for,
you because that's WHAT o Don shulan knew he was
smart enough to. Do by the, way very quickly you
Mentioned kareem Abdul, jabbar so he Was charman shaw, yep
(01:20:34):
right and Right Terry donnius's coach and he walks in
to see the coach and, Goes i'm gonna change my
name and he goes and as he's walking, Out donnias,
says what's your?
Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
Name he, Goes Kareem Abdul.
Speaker 1 (01:20:44):
Jabbar he's, like what you? See?
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
La all, right we're gonna talk some MORE nfl coming
up To this Is Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
Saturday do're listening To Fox Sports?
Speaker 1 (01:20:55):

The Fox Sports radio. Studios coming up here in about fifteen,
Minutes Adam kaplan OUR nfl insider is going to Be
Johnny Us and of Course adam he tours all the.
Camps you, know the camps have changed so dramatically over the.
(01:21:19):
Years it's it's not like it. WAS i mean when
you when you used to go to, camps you know
it would really start in Early, july you, know two a.
DAYS i, mean you, know hot as, hell and you
know it was a long extended. Thing, now of, course
these training cancer a very. Abbreviated they're not going to
risk wisely anybody get hurt and still Were Shawn slater's
(01:21:41):
out for the, year so there's no preventans football people
are going to get. Hurt but they're going to try
to do what they can do to prevent those injuries
from happening as best they. Can so it's not that
the environment is. Tough and in, FACT i wanted to
Ask adam in the. Past i'm definitely going to ask
him today because he's been following training cancer for, many many.
YEARS i have just you, know can you really get
(01:22:03):
a read on training and, camps on what's happening in
training camps like he used to because you got to
see guys extended play and everything else out on the.
Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
Field it's.
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
Different so we'll Have Adam kaplan coming up on the.
Speaker 1 (01:22:15):
Show by the. Way one other, things you, know we're we're.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Football heavy now because now the full, season but you
know what's coming up around the. Corner they don't have a.
Preseat i'm talking about college, football and let's.
Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
Face, it i mean there's there's going to be a
lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
Focus you, know we're excited That dion's going to be
back With, colorado very anxious to see.
Speaker 3 (01:22:35):
Now that his sons have moved on to the professional.
Speaker 1 (01:22:38):
Ranks you, know what's his, commitment what's he going to
do In? Colorado but.
Speaker 3 (01:22:43):
The number one coach as far as eyeballs is going
to Be.
Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
BELICHICK i, mean.
Speaker 3 (01:22:47):
What do YOU i?
Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
Mean BECAUSE i you, KNOW i you, KNOW i you know.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Me i'm a big nut for college, football SO i
you Know i've been and everyone will say the same.
Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
Thing they have no read On North, carolina.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
Right they have zero read on, This like what what
do you expect from the? Tar and we know they're
not favored to win THE ACC i mean where they're
not that. Level uh you know they Got Mac brown
to come back and you know he did okay. JOB i,
Mean North carolina has never been a power in. Football
they have some decent, teams but now you're bringing in
the six Time Super bowl, champ a guy that's going
(01:23:22):
to be elected to The Pro Football hall Of fame
coming up this, year first Ballot hall Of. Famer he
guy's on The Matt rushmore OF nfl, coaches there's no
question about. That but now in his, seventies he's coming
To North carolina to coach college. FOOTBALL i DON'T i
don't want so much a prediction because it's we don't.
Speaker 1 (01:23:42):
Know, Right but what are your?
Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
THOUGHTS i, mean are you are you all in to
see what this guy can? Do do you feel like
he's yesterday's, News, like what are you? DOING i mean
outside of his you, know his. GIRLFRIEND i, mean where
are you sitting right? Now in terms of your interest
in What Bill belichick does At North.
Speaker 1 (01:24:02):
Carolina on a scale of what give me a scale
one to ten, THREE i could care less. Listen like you,
said it's old. News Bill belichick At carolina's old. News
but you know, WHAT i think that's how he wants.
IT i think that's How Bill belichick wants. It and
let's get. Real the one thing that we can't do
this year THAT i thought we did a little too
(01:24:22):
much over the last two years is focus on a
team that's not a national championship. Contender but because of
the storyline and that Was colorado, knew we Knew colorado Has.
Shador shador is AN. Nfl now he's gonna be a starting.
Quarterback Travis, hunter best player in the world in college
football last, year won The Heisman. Trophy he's gonna play
both ways and do some great, THINGS i believe for
The Jacksonville jaguars and help Out Trevor lawrence's name down
(01:24:44):
there In North. Florida but they're so much riding on
this year for a guy Like James, franklin or It's
Kirby smart, done or do they just or did they
just have a little hiccup In georgia COU i thought
two years ago When georgia lost THE sec championship, game
is the number one team in the nation and got
(01:25:05):
knocked out of the top. FOUR i thought was a
Greagious that team had lost one game in their previous
twenty seven to twenty eight, games and you're telling me
this isn't one of the top four teams in college.
Football so then there's that. Storyline and then of course
the elephant in the rule of college, football the name
of all names at the quarterback, position probably in the
(01:25:27):
history of the, Game manning And arch And texas And,
Stark and it's just it's so much What's kelly gonna?
Do down AT. Lsu Nordon dame has lost their tight
end and running back now and they were just played
for the national championship. Game Ohio state's defending champions with
that fake championship they won last. Year they're back. There
there's so much we'll get to. That we talked about
(01:25:49):
That lray last. Week we all get a little more
to that you know HOW i. Feel, Man come, on,
Baby but the bottom line is they did win the national.
Championship they had to win four, games and your Beloved
wolverines beat.
Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
THEM i mean that that, counts, Right, okay you.
Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
Count because what He hayes once, said you can't lose
the game and claim to be a.
Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
Champion, obviously if you would have a previous format of four,
schools they wouldn't have been in the, playoffs and that have.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
Been the end of the.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Season, Listen i'm only going by.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
With The they had an, opportunity they made him in
after embarrassing, themselves and they lost two.
Speaker 1 (01:26:29):
GAMES i mean like they went like even lost just one.
Game they lost two. Games michigan went. Fifteen we went, on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
They, Lost they lost The oregon and they revenge lost
in a big, way by the, way lost your big.
Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
Way you're your, Guy Dylan.
Speaker 3 (01:26:42):
Gabriel people think he's gonna beat out shit During.
Speaker 1 (01:26:44):
Cleveland BUT i just.
Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
Think that ripping On Dylan. Gabriel what are you just
taking pot shots? Here you are you going to watch?
Belichicker you don't care how? Three So i'm going off right, Now, Listen,
NO I i. Don't but but here's the.
Speaker 1 (01:26:56):
THING i will definitely like you and like everybody else
that loves college, FOOTBALL i will peek, in would you
want would you rather see him go ten and two or?
Two inten so, no, no, no, no no. NO i
would love to see him do well because what that's
going to do is for our. Business it gives us
something next shoar to talk. About we'll get some.
Speaker 3 (01:27:16):
Dog if he, failed, right, well let me think about.
Speaker 1 (01:27:19):
This if he, FAILS i think it goes by the
way the.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Course between him And brady could not have gone any, worse,
right could. Not he never won another playoff, Game brady
goes To tampa immediately wins The Super.
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
BOWL i, mean all those, years who made?
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
Who and it took one year to, say, OH i
guess we just got the. Answer BUT i think it's.
Water legacy has taken a.
Speaker 4 (01:27:40):
Him.
Speaker 3 (01:27:41):
Nah Bill belichick's legacy is as semen as The.
Speaker 1 (01:27:44):
Do they have any statues of bella? Chick and it
will be there will be one In New. England get
a statue in the.
Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
Way you like How brady took a shot at The.
Jets of, course because that's what he's going to.
Speaker 1 (01:27:55):
Do he Supposed brady's supposed to take a shot at The,
jets The, bills and The dolphins.
Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
The rest of his life almost make.
Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
Nothing hold on a, second is he Not Fox sports
LEAD nfl? Commentator are they paying him thirty seven million
dollars a year to be an.
Speaker 1 (01:28:13):
Observer tons of? Change? Yeah, Right you could say that
all you want, to, man but we, know we, Know
And i'm a guy that had raised my hand and
put it out there if nobody else.
Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
Will it's like you're A jet fan and you're and
and he's assigned to your. Game of course that's remote.
Possibility but let's say The jets breakthrough and he's really, well.
Speaker 8 (01:28:32):
Hey, listen it'll make for great. TELEVISION i have an
issue with. That as A jets, FAN i would have an.
Issue list would you have an event he wouldn't be
able to help himself but take? Shots and CAN i
say about that that jab that he took about the? Statue?
Please everything he, said every joke he, makes whether it
was at his, roast whether it was that this thing
sounds so. SCRIPT i know that's always been a problem
(01:28:54):
With he's ahead of time and he had it so.
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
Ready you practiced in the mirror, Like, Oh i'm gonna Roast.
Speaker 3 (01:29:00):
Brady's not genuine.
Speaker 1 (01:29:02):
Cool, no, right he's. Not brady's not, cool like like organically,
cool you can't manufacture to go.
Speaker 8 (01:29:13):
Right we we had a show with talk about it
is like a naturally cool. Guy you can think whatever
you want about, him but he is effortless type of
type of.
Speaker 1 (01:29:20):
Personality With, brady it feels. REHEARSED i don't know about that.
Speaker 3 (01:29:23):
ONE i tell you WHAT i might have, Thought Aaron.
Speaker 1 (01:29:26):
Rodgers If rogers had taken a shot like, that it
would it would have.
Speaker 4 (01:29:28):
Been on the.
Speaker 1 (01:29:29):
Spot it wouldn't have been something you rehearsed. Days but
that last documentary was so. Manufactured, okay you know. What
the documentary was Pretty Brady brady and we had this
topic in about THE nba players DOING Nba playoffs because
of course it Was Tyreese.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
Halliburton was he? Cool AND i was, like, yeah why

This that dude if you if you're, making if you're
trying to make a concerted effort to appear, cool there's
nothing less cool than.
Speaker 1 (01:30:11):
That, no because like so so his his his attire
has always been a big thing when you watch quarterback
styling is his.
Speaker 3 (01:30:17):
Style his mom used to extravagantly dress him up as a.
Kid so it's nothing when he got to college.
Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
On his draft, today right when he was sitting on
the couch with his, parents, right a very modest, setting just.
Speaker 3 (01:30:31):
Chilling but he's cool, Though, no that's all WHO i
Really my impression Is burrow's.
Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
Cool. Yeah, yeah he's got a he's got a. Stylist
how MANY nfl courts, like he has a stylust that
goes to his house with a ton of clothes and
jewelry and.
Speaker 2 (01:30:42):
Stuff and the thing about with this and with, this
the thing About Joe, burrows he's going through a lot
of different styles. Here, YEAH i mean he's doing a
lot of different things with his.
Speaker 1 (01:30:51):
Hair he, walked he walked out of fashion show In
paris with the backout on the suit jack that's.
Speaker 8 (01:30:57):
You can tell what his stylist gave. Him and he
just decides to wear on his own little stuff like.
Speaker 1 (01:31:02):
That it's Like Tom brady.
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
Was Tom brady was the same. WAY i, Mean brady
had so much work done on. Himself but he was also.
Speaker 3 (01:31:08):

Sneakers that's.
Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
IT i have my workout sneakers AND i have these
these these are, that's by the, way the, WAY i
am not.
Speaker 3 (01:33:27):
Bragging this is just a. FACT i have never once
bought an article of clothing for.
Speaker 1 (01:33:32):
Myself.
Speaker 3 (01:33:33):
Ever my mom bought clothes for me WHEN i was a.
Speaker 1 (01:33:37):
Kid i've had, girlfriends, wives, WHATEVER i have never actually
walked into a clothing store and gotten even a pair of.
Underwear who bought the shirt you're wearing right? Now this
shirt was given to me as a. Gift this was
given to me as A birthday gift Or christmas, gift

way what do you, mean spoil? BRAT i don't.

Speaker 1 (01:34:01):
Gest you had the Honey dipsy had the honey dips
draping you girls love to dress.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
Me, yeah you had the honey. Dips draping. YOU i
think that's kind of. Think, HEY i WISH i lived that,
life don't, know mind bumby at.
Speaker 1 (01:34:11):
THAT i got to buy my own all, Right so, yeah,
okay coming up on the other, SIDE i don't know
if he dresses, himself BUT i know, this he knows
THE nfl as, well if not better than ninety nine
point nine percent of the people out.
Speaker 2 (01:34:24):

(01:35:07):
what the real games will. Begin and the man that
will give us all his insight as he tours training
camps across The National Football league landscape joins us right.
Now he is OUR nfl, Insider Adam. Kaplan, ADAM i
hope you have some extended time because we have extended time.
Today we will have a lot of time to cover
a lot of. Things BUT i want to ask you
(01:35:28):
a little overview question before we get into the nitty.
Gritty so you've been COVERING nfl training camps for a long.
Time i've been AROUND nfl training camps for a long,
time and we know they just keep reducing the workload
in these training camps is less more in terms of
getting a read on how things are progressing for, teams
(01:35:49):
or maybe the input that you're getting from people within
the organizations talking about you, know what progress are you?
Seeing you, know give me some inside word of what
you're seeing in training. Camp is it easier or harder
now that we're getting actually less production got getting in
uh during these training?
Speaker 1 (01:36:08):
Camps all?
Speaker 4 (01:36:09):
Right, So, steve if it really started for me on
that question in twenty eleven where we came out of
lockout and the players wanted less practice, time they wanted
less of an off. Season so talking to coaches and
far off the dectudes and really more coaches about. It
they hadn't learned how to coach. Better they had adjust
the way they did. It the. Practices you could still
(01:36:29):
do it to after our, practice but you. Can't there's
no hitting, basically but it's not as, intense and coaches felt,
like you know, WHAT i had to become a better.
Coach so, yeah it's definitely. Different you rarely see a
practice over two hours and their Letter, steve it's a good.
Question coaches have had to do it, differently and by the,
(01:36:51):
way they're not allowed to coach at all until after the.
Draft you're not you can't really talk strategy by THE
cba until after the. Draft so it's been an adjustment for.
Coaches they don't love, it but they're used to. It
they don't really to play like they used. To, boy
it bothered them coming out of that lockout after the
NEW cb in twenty eleven and then the next one
(01:37:12):
in twenty. Twenty it's just been an adjustment to move
this forward. Here that's really what's.
Speaker 3 (01:37:16):
Happened adam Cavinoll i was a. Pleasure V. J Vernond
husky here man training camp.
Speaker 1 (01:37:21):
Football this is, It man is the best time of
the year and the best thing to talk about the
biggest thing is all about was always the.
Speaker 3 (01:37:27):
Quarterbacks quarterbacks, says there's the pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:37:29):
Boy of the. Crew And i'll just throw a simple
question to you last, night what did you think of my,
gosh You Dora sanders last? Night and just your takeaway
things you may be. Hearing the chemistry looked like he,
had what his team and just the way he played last.
Speaker 4 (01:37:40):
NIGHT i, MEAN i hear there are two things that
are possitive that that you don't need to watch else
twenty two like you. Coach by the, way coaches don't.
Coach they don't great OFF tv the. Coach they great
off of what the tape looks, like which they did.
Today but on the, road no, turnovers no bone head
plays like when you're a. Rookie and by the, way
(01:38:00):
he was playing with the third team guys he had
worked with in training, camp so that was a good.
Thing now he had a good scramble. Nout do we
know did he where guy's?
Speaker 1 (01:38:10):
Open did he?
Speaker 4 (01:38:11):
Hit did he not throw it when he should? HAVE
i can't answer. That that's off of coaches. Teeth that's that.
STUFF i rarely go crazy after a preseason. Game BUT
dj the take away no. TURNOVERS i couldn't tell if
he played well or. NOT i don't know. THAT i
DON'T i don't grade off of. HER i don't gather
information From twitter or what social media. Thinks for the
(01:38:32):
media thinks a great. Buy what teams tell. Me and
they were watching the tape today Out i'll be with
The browns this. Week i'll have a better idea of
actually how well or not not Well sanders. Played BUT
i like. That by the, way The panthers should also.
Know The panthers didn't play all their. Starters they played
over half of the starts of the.
Speaker 6 (01:38:49):
Game.
Speaker 4 (01:38:50):
Yep the Overall to take away, this no bone had
played no, turnovers and you'll grow from.
Speaker 2 (01:38:54):
That so last, TIME i was watching much of This
Patriots commander's, game and you, know based on the final,
score it's, like, Hey patriots are on their way to
Another Super bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
WIN i, mean The commanders were playing touch football out.
Speaker 2 (01:39:09):
There but that, Aside i'm Watching Mike vrabel and you,
know in, retrospect he probably should have been hired a
year ago By New. England may it was just not
up to the. Job doesn't mean that he can't do
it down the, road but under the. Circumstances it was very,
difficult difficult. Situation but the, way you, know after the,
Game vrabel was asked, about you, Know Drake may's. Mistake
(01:39:32):
you know it was it was a mistake and it you,
know and granted's a preseason, game but he did not,
hesitate even though he joked with the the reporter who
basically asked the question and answered the. Question he, goes
you're going to ask and answer your own question type of.
Thing rabel's a no nonsense, guy and he made it
clear we can't have.
Speaker 1 (01:39:51):
That we just.
Speaker 2 (01:39:52):
CAN'T i, mean If Drake may is going to be our,
quarterback we can't have him have a brain fart like
that during AN nfl, Game which got me, thinking how,
quickly if it's, possible Can rabel turn things around In New.
Speaker 1 (01:40:07):
England all, right a couple of things.
Speaker 4 (01:40:10):
Here let's start With Drake. May so the knock On
Drake may was At North carolina try to be a,
superhero trying to make the big. Play just he thought
he could do a, lot and he needed to be coached.
Hard he needed to play with better. Discipline and by
the way the new staff talking to, them they thought
his tape last year was way better than they. Stated
(01:40:32):
they watched his tape when they were with another, team
And david love his. COLLEGE i don't they love the
state as much as they really were at press with
what happened last. Year so it's a little bit of head.
Schedule but see the play you talked about is a
president sample, like you got to do the right, thing,
Man take what's, there don't try to do too. Much so,
yeah and very. Well coaches, hard with a lot of.
(01:40:53):
Discipline and now WHAT i find funny is the oddsmakers
are on this. Team they the. Over uther'll say the, half,
yeah and if you like, over you're gonna pay a
little bit of a. Price, tho they clearly think that
they're gonna be winning a. Record that's. THAT i. Know
it's not a very good. Division The dolphins are a downward,
slide you, know The bills are, Elite jets are are
(01:41:15):
you know are are are on a. Rebuild so, YEAH
i think it's a little bit too much for. ME
i see six or, SEVEN i don't see nine or.
Speaker 1 (01:41:22):
Ten Fox Sports saturday Were Hartman husky right now we
had on the Great Adam KAPLAN nfl, Insider, Alam i'm
gonna stick with. Quarterbacks two young guys that were rookies last.
Year one got in late in the, year the other
one had to work through an. Injury AND i just
want to see what your thoughts are About Michael Pennix
junior AND jj. McCarthy what do you expect from these
two young quarterbacks and can they take the type of
(01:41:44):
stamp on their career and put people on notice the
Way Bod nicks in the Way Jayden daniels did last.
Speaker 4 (01:41:49):
Year, yeah and you know what McCarthy is because this
is essentially his rookie. Season he got hurt against The
raiders last year where he played, well very, well and
that's that opening preseason. Game but all he could do
is to take metal. Reps so he's had enough down.
Camp this Is i'm glad that he. Played that's The
texans today that that was a good, thing just to
get over that that metal heart role of you, know
(01:42:10):
he got hurt last year in that first. Game he's
got a ways to go. Now you know what's unfortunate
Is Duran, addison the number two, receivers suspended for three
games at the start of the. Season so you're not
gonna have early on that that that does concern. Me
who's the other quarterback you asked.
Speaker 3 (01:42:25):
About michael down In?
Speaker 1 (01:42:27):
Atlanta, hey, yeah, YEAH i like.
Speaker 4 (01:42:29):
Him he's a pure pocket, passer the great. Arm they're
loaded on, offense and, look you Got Kirk cousins as the.
Backup The cousins know's the. Deal he despite being paid
over thirty, million he's the. Backup it's, crazy But Michael
pennis could spin. IT i love WHAT i saw from
The Senior bowl two years, ago prior to his rookie.
(01:42:49):
Season he looked really, good really good. Leader now the
knock on HIM vj is big injury history through, college
playing in a couple of. Schools you know you're worried about,
That but he's got an. ARM i like this, player
AND i like what's around. Him he will wind up
elevating the talent around. Him they just have to be a,
patient which they will.
Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
Be, yeah we had this conversation earlier by which one
of those two guys will be the next breakout quarterback
after what we saw With daniels The nicks a year.
Ago i'm leaning panics because of that. DIVISION i think
that he might be able to do more. Damage BUT
i agree TO i MEAN. J. J McCarthy is surrounded
by such great talent In, minnesota he should have success as. Well,
again we're talking With Adam, kaplan OUR nfl. Insider, So,
(01:43:30):
adam where have you?
Speaker 1 (01:43:31):
Been give us a little.
Speaker 3 (01:43:33):
Where have you been hanging? Out and give us some
rid on some of the camps you've been.
Speaker 4 (01:43:37):
In, Yeah so you, Know eagles a, bunch and Then
i've got and then a couple Like baltimore at a
crossover with. Them i'm gonna see The steelers the sweat.
BACK i Think i'm going to see ten, teams at least.
Eight i've got Jetson giants On, tuesday possibly The commanders On.
Monday that's going to be a last finite. Decision i've
(01:43:59):
got The Browns Eagles, wednesday and Then i've got The
Bucks steelers On thursday for a joint for a joint.
Practice the, Weekend i've got a. Couple More so by
the time we get the Next, SUNDAY i should have
seen ten or twelve. Teams one of the things with The,
colts by the, way or who had the joint with
(01:44:20):
the with The ravens this, week What i'm very concerned
about their quarterback Position Daniel jones signed a backup, deal
pretty enhanced backup, deal but it's a backup. Deal i'm
not convinced right now that they have an answer at.
Quarterback richardson's injuries, minor but it's a right finger, injury
but he's gonna be. Fine i'm just if you're A colts,
(01:44:42):
FAN i just i'd be wirried right now about their quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:44:45):
Position, WELL I i CAUGHT vj, blindside and WHEN I i,
WAS i was, SAYING i got a name of a
player that ruined his franchise more than any other.
Speaker 1 (01:44:55):
Player AND i came out of it AND i, said
It's Andrew. LUCK i Mean Andrew.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
Luck he was twenty nine years, old were right before the,
season after a comeback year in which he led him
to the. Playoffs right, now Assuming Daniel jones will start
a game for The, colts that'll be eleven starting quarterbacks
that they've had eleven since twenty. Nineteen play quarterbacks has
start at least one game for The. Colts you, know
(01:45:21):
it started With, brissett and he Had, rivers and they
Had Carson.
Speaker 3 (01:45:24):
Wins they Had Matt Ryan, Gardner. Minshew The Anthony.
Speaker 2 (01:45:27):
Richardson situation nobody ruined a team more Than Andrew luck did.
Nobody and by the, way right now he would be
going into his fourteenth season in THE. Nfl but he
didn't just. Quit he quit right before the season began
in twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:45:42):
Nineteen, yeah it's a tough.
Speaker 4 (01:45:43):
Deal A Chris baller the general, Manager let's be honest about.
It it's been very mixed for him And Jim. Marsey
it's passed. Away you, know he hired him in twenty.
Seventeen remember The josh McDaniel. Situation. Yep so it's been very.
Disappointing that's that's On Area balloch. Simple it's not kind of.
Right you can't blame him For andrew luck. Retirement but
(01:46:06):
he rolled with don To Nancy, richardson who gotta it's
funny that he played actually pretty well to. Start then
it was downhill maturity issue when you've got if you
know this covering The, raiders when you're with The, raiders
when you don't get it, right a, quarterback you can
connect the.
Speaker 1 (01:46:21):
Beep, ADAM i want to throw a quarterback at. YOU
i Asked steve this earlier in the, Show Joe. BURROW
i WOULD i would ARGUE i would argue he could
be the second best quarterback in. Football things Saying Pat
mahomes is out of respect him because of What Pat
mahomes has. Accomplished but, Man joe's right. THERE i, mean
this guy just has. Everything but they they the franchise
(01:46:42):
doesn't run very. Well he's got a star. Receiver they
got to win thirty, eight thirty five most. Weeks man
could he be when it's all said and? Done could
he end up being this Era's Damn.
Speaker 4 (01:46:54):
Marino that's a great name Because mareno never won a
ring and he was great The all Of. Fame he
got in in his second year and never got. Back
so that's you know, what that's. Fair, Now, yes The
dolphins defenses in the eighties and really when in the
latter stage Of dan's career weren't very. Good and they
which is a passing. Offense but at times last year
(01:47:17):
OF vj The bengal defense that are Lou Ana romo
was not a defense when where The colts is not,
competitive that's come From puff's talking about. It it's they're
not very, talented particularly in the back. End, look they
got to Get Trey henderson's deal. Done nay one way
or the other and looked Sim, howbard the other star
IN dm he he retired, suddenly And Miles, murphy who
(01:47:38):
was a first round pick two years, ago has not
done anything, yet so they got. Problems you're, right, man
to bring that. Up it's it's it's certainly a very
fair way to look at. It they're fun to. WATCH
i mean that game Against philly to night was. Right
it was a fun. Game it was a fun watch
if you like. Offense AS i, said an x and
The eagles didn't play at the defensive. Starters but, overall
(01:47:59):
you're absolutely, right and there's a reason why they don't
win that they think it's The Super. Bowl LET'S i
forget four years, Ago, barrow but why have they not
been good since other defense is not?
Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
Competitive all, Right So Rashawn slater signs the richest contract
for an offensive lineman and the season ends and Employe
and AS i was telling, everyone The Dean spannos curse is,
alive and, well if people don't understand.
Speaker 8 (01:48:21):
This it.
Speaker 1 (01:48:22):
Is it is a real. Thing we've seen time and time.
Speaker 2 (01:48:25):
Again every time it looks like The chargers will take
a step, forward they take a step. Back injuries have
been a big part of it over the. Years it
has to be a. Curse i'm convinced of. That and
you know HOW i feel About Dean. Spanos that, Said
Jim harbaugh obviously is the kind of coach that. Understands,
hey you, know we even had him last.
Speaker 1 (01:48:44):
NIGHT i was DOING.
Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
Tv he, said you, know injuries are part of the, game,
RIGHT i, mean that's all he, says injuries are part
of the.
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
Game next man.
Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
In but how much does The Rashawn slater injury affect
The chargers offense from what you, See, well it's a.
Speaker 4 (01:48:59):
Problem now know all almost certainly be their left. TACKLE
i REPORT i put this out last year during the,
draft the twenty the twenty four, draft that The tens
are gonna Draft joel to get their left, tackle and
The charges beat them to. It so what they'll do
is they'll most likely move all to left. Tackle they've
(01:49:19):
got an answered right, tackle but it's a it's a
step down Because slayers an elite left. Tackle That Trey
pipkins will be the right tackle most, Likely so they'll
have an answer and it won't be Bad now for
those of, us And i'm raising my hand who were
considering picking the charges to win the. Division they never
do against The, chiefs and no one beats them. Out
(01:49:42):
i'm certainly not going to do it now because it
hurts their death, too because now you've got to start
someone else at right. Tackle so their depth, ishad it's a.
Problem there's no way to put a percentage on.
Speaker 1 (01:49:54):
It.
Speaker 4 (01:49:54):
Stephen by the, Way i'll be looking at the books
to see if the sportsbooks have actually adjusted.
Speaker 1 (01:49:59):
It all, wow all, right all, right well WE i
tell you. What it's that.
Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Time so by the time we talk to you next,
week you'll have been across half the, map is basically
what you're.
Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
Saying, Well East coast a. Lot i'll be driving a. Lot,
Yeah i'll be put a lot Of Frequent fly miles
on my.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
Car, Beautiful, adam great stuff is always we can't. WAIT i,
mean that's the only problem with the, Preseasons like what
is this? End then you get that bye week on
top of, preseason then you get a bye. Week i'm,
like come, on.
Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
Let's get this thing. Going great stuff has always had
and we appreciate. It we'll talk to you next. Week that's.
Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Good That's Adam, kaplan OUR nfl. Insider now let's find
out what is? Trending and wait.
Speaker 9 (01:50:42):
A, second been doing this for a. Year i've been
doing this for a. Year you shouldn't have to do
this double take thing every.
Speaker 3 (01:50:48):
Time but it's a double take because you were sitting
there and now you're sitting.
Speaker 1 (01:50:52):

Speaker 9 (01:52:13):
Sorry, well since we're thinking football right, now let's get
you up on the preseason. Action currently twenty to Ten
vikings over The texans in the fourth. Quarter but the
score is really not. Important what's important is we got
to look at the presumptive starting QUARTERBACK jj. McCarthy he
played the First minnesota. Possession he threw for four for
seven for thirty, yards and then the rest of this
(01:52:35):
game went To Brett repian And Sam. Howell, however bad
news for The vikings as wide Receiver Rondelle moore suffered
a lower leg injury in this, game very brutal, one
and the cart had to come out for. Him and
we didn't have the full stoppage like we had or
the ambulance like we had in The lions. Game but
still not a sign you want to see in. Preseason,
(01:52:56):
earlier The giants And bills were in preseason action as.
Well first round pick Quarterback Jackson dart played the full
first half Of New york twelve, nineteen one hundred and
fifty four yards a twenty eight yard touchdown pass to
Little Jordan. Humphrey and we're starting to get some lineups
for the preseason games coming. Up no, surprise But Aaron
rodgers and nearly all of The steelers starters will not
(01:53:17):
play tonight against The Jacksonville.
Speaker 1 (01:53:19):
Jaguars, however we will see an Action.
Speaker 9 (01:53:22):
Jaguars Quarterback Trevor lawrence along with first round first overall
Pick Travis, hunter who will play both sides of the
ball to night go For. Jackson let's, GO i tell, you,
Guys let's go should be a feast for the eyes.
Guys chargers officially placed For Seawan slater on the injured.
Deserve you guys been talking about, him and they have
signed Tackled David sharp as a replacement on the. Roster
(01:53:44):
AND i have one more note of, injury although it's
quite an interesting one IF i. May but so we've
got The Yankees Old timers game. Happening yankees defeat The
astros five to four, earlier but now we have The
Old timers game. Played you, KNOW i think we talked about.
THIS i think prior another Week steven That Derek jeter
wasn't playing in. This, yes so we did have a
(01:54:07):
bit of an. Injury Mariano, rivera according to his, agent
tore his acl wild game during The Old timers.
Speaker 1 (01:54:15):
Game oh, boy oh my, god stop playing these stage you're.
Speaker 9 (01:54:18):
Old, yeah this and it's like it's not Like rivera
has to go out there for very long, Either and
just a brutal injury for him and Other one last
bit of. News braves defeat The marlins seven to one
in the first game of their doubleheader And Jen powell
among the official eating crew In Major League baseball's first
female umpire in the regular.
Speaker 1 (01:54:38):
Season back to you, Guys, now what took so?
Speaker 2 (01:54:40):
LONG i, mean we have all the female officials in THE. Nba,
YEAH i mean you, know so you, know, yeah, exactly
so what Tuk Major League baseball so? Long by the,
way you, know speaking of old timers, Games so the
First yankees old timers game was back in nineteen forty.
Seven Babe ruth And Ty cobb were. THERE a year,
(01:55:01):
later The babe was. Dead, OKAY i don't get old
timers games in any.
Speaker 3 (01:55:07):
In any, sport in any. Sport you, know it's just
a celebrity softball.
Speaker 1 (01:55:10):
GAME i was always funny the.
Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
Worst and right NOW i was tennis where they have
That tennis just, awful.
Speaker 1 (01:55:18):
By the, way look like, me by the, way pickle
ball stop. It Arnie spaniard just flipped over just. NOW i,
mean that is Not i'm with. You that Is i'm with.
Speaker 2 (01:55:30):
You there is nothing more embarrassing from The fox than
watching anybody play that.
Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
Sport it's basically ping pong with.
Speaker 2 (01:55:43):
OVERSIZE i, mean if you can't, play to find another,
sport play golf.
Speaker 6 (01:55:49):
Books.
Speaker 2 (01:55:50):
Embarrassing and don't tell me why you really work up a. Sweat,
well if you're working up a, sweat it's because you're
out of. Shape, basically you're working up a sweat by
walking and, breathing if you're working up a sweat playing pickle, ball.
Speaker 8 (01:56:04):
If you're Rivera now do you even get? Surgery, like
there's no point you don't have to go back out there.
PLACE i know people who have torn their a cl
and never got surgery because really the right around and
of their.
Speaker 1 (01:56:18):
Lives you, know that's called that's called a lack of health. Insurance,
yeah it gets it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:26):
Repaired, okay once, again we're in The Fox Sports radio.

(01:56:59):
The vikings Is Sam howe eleven or thirteen hundred and
five yards with a passer rating of one hundred point
THREE jj McCarthy just four seven thirty, yards passer rating
of sixty seven point six.
Speaker 1 (01:57:15):
And four. Years sam how is going to be at
a gymsonwhere asking you if you want to purchase personal.
Speaker 3 (01:57:19):
Training by the.
Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
Way what are teams going to give up on this
idea That North carolina? Quarterbacks so they don't BRO i,
DON'T i.
Speaker 1 (01:57:25):
Don't it's a basketball, school you, guys know min you
know how you AND i talk trash doing college hoop
season your, Bruins, mozar it's a basketball. School, guys stopped
us really. Quick they'll talking ABOUT jj over under on
his touchdown passes this. Year what do you think it's?
SAID i just looked it.
Speaker 2 (01:57:40):
Up, WELL i, mean obviously it's contingent on him playing
a full. SEASON i would say based on what we
saw a year ago From Sam, darnold.
Speaker 3 (01:57:51):
They'll put the number below. That i'd, say over under.
Speaker 1 (01:57:55):
Twenty. Eight, well you're, close but take the over and
then thenber We i'm going to give. You they got
to set right, now four and a.
Speaker 3 (01:58:00):
Half twenty four and a, half WELL'S i would take.
OVER i would take, over. Guys he's gonna throw thirty
touchdown passes this.
Speaker 1 (01:58:06):
YEAR i mean What darnold have thirty four last? YEAR
i don't.
Speaker 3 (01:58:08):
KNOW i don't. CARE i know WHAT jj goon't throw this?
Speaker 1 (01:58:11):
Year? Though too many.
Speaker 3 (01:58:11):
Weapons, well being out is a big.
Speaker 1 (01:58:14):
Thing but they HAVE. Tj, Hocket they got other weapons
there and then out of the.
Speaker 2 (01:58:17):
Backfield going okay, again when we talk when we talk
about Elite kevin, O'Connell and this is personal for me
because as you, know i've Totally i've known him since he.
Speaker 1 (01:58:30):
Was in high.
Speaker 2 (01:58:30):
School, yes, sir two ugly playoff, losses that's what he's
got in his resumes so. Far, YEAH i mean games
in which they were favored in both games home against
The giants and then limping out Of. Detroit they were
favored against The rams and still lost that game even
though it was on the road and looked terrible in
both those.
Speaker 1 (01:58:49):
Games what do you think it?
Speaker 4 (01:58:51):
Is?
Speaker 1 (01:58:51):
Then just when you because you're, right he should have
a more successful postseason because of the weapons that he
has on his.
Speaker 2 (01:58:59):
Roster at it's a different gam you, know one in the. Postseason,
everyone there's two. Seasons there's the regular. Season Daniel, jones
he lost The Daniel jones home and remember that was
the year that both The minnesota had that incredible year
where they were eleven and zero in one score game
games and then they lose a one score game at.
Speaker 1 (01:59:21):
Home in the, playoffs they went up and Beat buffalo that.
Year you remember that game to the fourth and forever
to one hand catch By Justin jefferson to keep the drive.
Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
Gone quick story, Here Marty schottenheimer came To San diego
WHEN i was working In San. Diego you would have
loved to have been there for this ONE.
Speaker 1 (01:59:36):
Bj so The.
Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
Chargers had completely bottomed, out all, right And marty comes
in and he asked to have a dinner with some
of the senior members of the local, media of WHICH
i was one at the. Time so he takes us
out to a, steakhouse big time, steakhouse and THERE'S i
would say there's probably maybe a dozen of us at
(02:00:02):
the table With.
Speaker 3 (02:00:03):
Marty marty's at the end of the. Table so we're all.
Speaker 2 (02:00:06):
Ordering everyone's got their stakes in front of, him And
marty's got an empty plate in front of. Him and
then they walk in and they give him it was
either bourbon or whiskey in a glass and they put
it on his. Plate that's all he had in front of,
him and so he's looking, around he's sipping on it
and everything. Else, Immediately i'm like falling in love with this, guy,
(02:00:28):
right and this, Guy Marty schottenheimer won two hundred games
in his. Career there's ONLY i believe seven or eight
coaches in the history of THE nfl that have done.
Speaker 1 (02:00:41):
That but it's postseason five and.
Speaker 2 (02:00:43):
Eleven he just could not win in the postseason and,
again same, guy different. Results jury's out On kevin. O'Connell
can he get it?
Speaker 1 (02:00:57):
Done we will get it done with more found news
coming up here On Fox Sports. Saturday you're listening To
Fox Sports Radio. Radio no stopping us here on this
huge Sports, Saturday Fox Sports. Saturday we're broadcasting live from
The Fox Sports radio. Studios one quick note Here Jackson,
(02:01:19):
dart who looked real good.
Speaker 2 (02:01:22):
Today they were on the road against The bills twelve
to nineteen hundred and fifty four yards, touchdown no. PICKS
i was doing a little you, KNOW i was Watching
Cam Warchdor, Sanders Dylan, gabriel some of these top, quarterbacks
AND i was watching just some highlights Of Jackson.
Speaker 1 (02:01:37):
Dart At Ole Miss and of COURSE i remember when
he was AT Usc.
Speaker 2 (02:01:40):
Ticketsmen when you talk about just throwing the, ball like
the velocity on his, pass it's, noticeable like, REALLY i,
mean it's not like other guys can't get the. Ball
you still have to get the ball from POINT a
to POINT. B accuracy is the number one. Thing but
when you just when you just watch the ball fly
out of this guy his. Hands, WOW i mean he
(02:02:01):
has got a weapon on his right. Arm so we'll
see how that plays. Out The giants are, terrible but
at least first, day we're talking about your Door sanders looked.
Good yesterday we're talking About Jackson dart looked pretty good
in his first preseason out in twelve to nineteen hundred
and fifty four yards and a score against The.
Speaker 1 (02:02:18):
Bills he's, there and The giants aren't gonna be. Terrible
that defense is going to be really good and keep
them in. Games it's just what are you going to
get at the quarterback, position because you do Have molik
neighbors like you do have A bona five star to
get THE ba.
Speaker 2 (02:02:31):
Also played, today by the, Way Russell wilson was six to,
Seven Jamis winston seven to, Eleven Tommy DeVito was in there.
Speaker 3 (02:02:38):
TenneT get them all in, there But Jackson dart looked
probably the.
Speaker 1 (02:02:41):
Best get them all in, there And Jackson DART i
think should be the. Starter he will be the, start
just how long away drafted. Him you don't draft the
guy and then bringing old Ass Russell wilson and Give
Russell Wissell wilson's been done for three. Years, People well
let's stop.
Speaker 2 (02:02:53):
It. Okay first of, all you're not gonna have Both
Jameis winston And Russell wilson on this, roster, right.
Speaker 1 (02:02:58):
You know you're just. Not i'd much rather have Famous
jamis aka. Krabley, Well i've.
Speaker 2 (02:03:02):
Always has always Been Jameis winston fam too since. YEARS
i mean say his thirty thirty year he had With.
Tampa he had thirty, touchdowns thirty, picks threw for over
five thousand.
Speaker 1 (02:03:13):
YARDS i mean two pick six is like they were.
Going but he still, was, like you, know led the
league and. Passing the guy put up some huge. Numbers
the guy can throw the.
Speaker 2 (02:03:24):
Football but, yeah we'll see where we go With Jackson
dart with The.
Speaker 1 (02:03:29):
Giants SO i want to address something really. Quick you,
know we like that fun With twitter and our fans
and people that are listening. Stuff AND i was doing
the commercial. Break i've read two that were really, interesting,
okay and we get one here from At Listen Up,
casey who Is i'm assuming A chiefs fan because he
didn't like Your chiefs. Pick i'm.
Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
Sure and he wrote him in At lance the sp
something something.
Speaker 1 (02:03:50):
Something when you got a name too, long has got
too many, dots, man take some of them emoji's out
of your, name, bro before you put your name.
Speaker 3 (02:03:55):
Up that's.
Speaker 1 (02:03:56):
Ridiculous but he, said he quoted you The chiefs are
due for. Hiccup AND i think this this season end
quote at Ken hartman that is an accurate. Quote that's.
Accurate then didn't proceeds to not give any reason why
this end quote hiccup will occur other than dot dot.
Dot you guessed.
Speaker 4 (02:04:14):
It the.
Speaker 1 (02:04:14):
Annual THE Afc west got. Better, yes lazy ass take,
okay lazy ass is. Better The chargers are. Better look
at these.
Speaker 2 (02:04:24):
Coaches you Got Pete, carroll you Got Jim, harbaugh you
Got Sean. Paide those are really good. Coaches so they're
making their teams. Better, Right so then listen.
Speaker 1 (02:04:34):
Up at Listen, Up casey responds and, says, YEAH i heard,
This it was, ridiculous with zero pushback from his co
host At Big.
Speaker 3 (02:04:43):
Vanilla may do you agree with?
Speaker 1 (02:04:44):
Me, well, well here's the. Thing first of, all where's this.
Annual The west got better coming From when when have
we been saying? That thank? You for the last seven,
years no one has said THE Afc west got.
Speaker 2 (02:04:56):
BETTERS i predicted the Charge we're gonna have a bad.
Speaker 1 (02:05:01):
SEASON i was.
Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
Wrong we knew The raiders are going to be and
THEN i had, this you, know out of left.
Speaker 2 (02:05:06):
FIELD i picked the The broncos to win ten games
and make the playoffs as a wild.
Speaker 3 (02:05:10):
CARS i nailed.
Speaker 1 (02:05:11):
It that was.
Speaker 2 (02:05:12):
IT i didn't say The chiefs were gonna win The.
WEST i had them winning The, west, Right, yeah, no,
No well just to hold the.
Speaker 1 (02:05:18):
Annual that's the part that's got me is because we
do this for a, living and we covered this for
a living.
Speaker 3 (02:05:24):
Over the last seven or eight.
Speaker 1 (02:05:25):
Years here's nobody who's been saying that The chiefs are
up for you, know getting. Upset last, Year even myself
and people Like Adam, kaplan a few other like big
TIME nfl writers insiders thought The chargers could push, them
which they. Did it came down to week seventeen and
eighteen for The chiefs to win that. Division like they
(02:05:47):
didn't walk away this. Year last, year we're fifteen and.
One no towards the.
Speaker 2 (02:05:52):
End The, chiefs the, well the Chief remember what last,
year all season, long here's what we said about The.
Chiefs remember they had that good, undefeated, right but they
like the worst eleven zero team we've ever.
Speaker 1 (02:06:02):
Seen they weren't.
Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
Pressure you're, Right i'm, Sorry i'm. Thinking i'm thinking about
the the THE. Nfc you're right, Here, yeah but last.
Speaker 2 (02:06:08):
Year they were and then they got blown out in
a meaningless seventeenth game By. Denver but they they they
never looked as good as their record all season. Long their,
offense they had what one regular season game with thirty.
Points Obviously kelsey's at the end of the, line and
what do he averaged like seven.
Speaker 1 (02:06:25):
Eight yards a? Catch you, know?
Speaker 2 (02:06:28):
Sixty they had home field, Advantage buffalo had a, chance
couldn't get it, done and then they got.
Speaker 3 (02:06:34):
Annihilated humiliated in The Super.
Speaker 1 (02:06:38):
Bowl, bears they got The Super.
Speaker 2 (02:06:39):
Bowl and by the, way if you listen to this,
SHOW i predicted the entire time so on tape that
The eagles are going to win that game by double.
DIGITS i said the entire, week two weeks leading up
The Super. Bowl not only AM i picking The, eagles
The eagles will win by double digits in this.
Speaker 3 (02:06:57):
Game last, year it was the defense that carried. Them
it was that actually really.
Speaker 1 (02:07:02):
Cared the offense did not carry The chiefs last. Year,
so and LIKE i, said we just love to have.
Fun we love to respond to people that don't seem to.
Listen And, plus if you gotta type, Something i'm gonna
look at what you type it put it.
Speaker 3 (02:07:13):
Out so this these fans are in denial that annual ever.
Speaker 8 (02:07:17):
Happens if you want the comment to hold more weight to,
like don't make your username casey money, line right because
it's coming from A chiefs get more sensitive and someone
says something against your.
Speaker 1 (02:07:28):
Team, also what are you so mad? About like you've been? Humiliated, right,
well like Like steve is, saying because the last time
we saw them on the, field they were and you.
Speaker 3 (02:07:38):
Weren't and he was the other. One you AND i
picked them In august to be The eagles to win
The Super.
Speaker 1 (02:07:42):
Bowl you AND i were the only two people here
on our sheet that we post that everybody in the
world can see to pick The. Eagles they didn't just get,
beat they got embarrassed in that. Game bye bye by
The Philadelphia. Eagles and that's the last thought on their.
Mind so this is fan. Basis if you say something
about their, team it could be something. Small none of
us have said they're. Bad none of us have said
they're gonna have a bad. YEAR i just think this
(02:08:04):
division is so, hard and, yes the division did get.
Better that's normally how you unsee the. Team by the,
way if the division has to continue to, improve which it,
has air's a.
Speaker 2 (02:08:16):
Fact so there's a lot of grating systems that are
used to grade. Linemen, okay both offensive and defensive. Lineman
there's a lot of metrics involved in. Efficiency there are
two teams in THE nfl that have both offensive and
defensive lines. RANKED i believe it was in the top
three or. Five one is The Philadelphia, eagles the other
(02:08:36):
The Denver. Broncos, yeah there was gonna be tough. Man
bonnicks can take the next step from what he built
on as a. Rookie that team will win thirteen games
this year easily because they have the, defense they have
the coach and everything.
Speaker 3 (02:08:50):
ELSE i don't think The chiefs are at that.
Speaker 2 (02:08:52):
LEVEL i think The chiefs right now are a ten
to eleven win, team and that's of a lot of
things go.
Speaker 3 (02:08:58):
Right you got to keep. By obviously mahomes, upright but
you know the The kelsey.
Speaker 1 (02:09:03):
Is just not the threat he used to. Be, no
not even close an.
Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
Example so the defense has you, Know Chris jones officuely
has to say. Healthy they got to continue to dominate
with their.
Speaker 3 (02:09:11):
Defense but you just don't keep it on. Forever, now
at some point you're gonna get a, hiccup, right and
that's and that's how just the league.
Speaker 1 (02:09:18):
Is and once again THE afc is just so loaded
so on on the on the back hills of, that
uh W j At, FLANMAN kJ, says, Wow Fox Sports
radio just predicts The chiefs will. Lose THE afc was
finishing Behind, Broncos chargers And. Raiders just heard them predict
that and That Josh allen will win The Super? Bowl
(02:09:39):
what show are you listening? To either one of us
sat here and said The chiefs are gonna finish, last
and either one that The bills were winning The Super?
Speaker 3 (02:09:47):
Bowl DID i say The raiders are going to finish The?
Speaker 1 (02:09:49):
CHIEFS i think The. Broncos, honestly on, paper if you
look at him right now and, again Bow knicks.
Speaker 2 (02:09:56):
Has to prove that it was not a rookie. Flow oh,
yeah and there's and again we saw Ced A stroud
to take a step. Back we'll see What Jayden daniels
does his second, Year so that is always a.
Speaker 1 (02:10:04):
Possibility i'm going to trust The Sean payton, though Just
i'm gonna trust In Sean payton to make Sure bowl
doesn't have that.
Speaker 2 (02:10:11):
Right but go, ahead, yeah exactly look at. It and,
Again Drew brees wasn't a, rookie but he was a
new guy in. Assistant they had the great first year
together and then they settled in win A Super bowl
a couple of years. Later as far as The bills,
went that wasn't the question was. This if not The,
chiefs thank. You if not the this is how We
(02:10:33):
if you were listening to the. Show if not The,
chiefs then Who and you Said, ravens AND i Say,
Bills And i'm basing on. Again the quarterbacks play Between
Lamar jackson And Josh allen in the, POSTSEASON i pointed
out That Josh allen's passer rating in the postseason and
thirteen postseason starts is nine points higher than his career
(02:10:54):
regular season as opposed To Lamar, jackson's who is three
and five in the, postseason and his passer rating is
eighteen points lower in the. Postseason that was the conversation
we had in our, arguments he with The, ravens me
with The bills in terms of if not The, chiefs,
right then who is the team that would step in
and represent THE.
Speaker 1 (02:11:13):
Afc and that's.
Speaker 3 (02:11:14):
Right we didn't say they were winning BECAUSE i don't
Think buffalo's getting. There first of, all we haven't made
any predictions at.
Speaker 2 (02:11:20):
All and the reason we haven't made any predictions is
what happened To Rashaan, Slater, right we're not making a.
Prediction you, know the week before the regular, season you
gotta get in the. Books, okay you can't play regular.
Season you gotta get your picks. In but you don't
make picks before now because there's. Injuries there's a lot
of things that can happen over the next several.
Speaker 1 (02:11:40):
Weeks you. KNOW i don't make my predictions until the
fifty three man rosters are, set so you go when
you have to turn those in By monday morning Of
Labor day. Weekend that's The that's One i'll tell you
who's gonna win the, divisions the, beauty who's gonna win
The Super.
Speaker 2 (02:11:54):
Bowl the beauty now is we have that bye, week,
right you, know we have the bye week between the
end of the preseason and the start of the regular.
Speaker 3 (02:12:01):
SEASON i love. It college football gets the full spotlight week.
Speaker 1 (02:12:04):
One but you have a.
Speaker 3 (02:12:05):
Week everything is, settled rosters are. Set now let's make our.
Speaker 1 (02:12:08):
PICKS i don't even like doing fantasy drafts during. PRESEASON
i just because you can lose a, Guy, like, seriously
you could go draft the. Guy, hey, Listen Rashaun slater
is the first big. Name we all know another one's.
Coming it's never one guy in the. Preseason we all
know there's just another big name that will affect the
team that we are gonna hear is done for the.
(02:12:31):
Year our twelve weeks or four months where it's, like,
well we might could get him back By. December, yeah
you've just missed Up, Timber, October. November that's a lot
of games to. Miss like the Year Jalen ramsey got
hurt for The, dolphins, right and he's, like, well hopefully
you can get him back By. Thanksgiving but at that
point in your, life so, okay, great we get him
back At, thanksgiving but, goodness, gracious we don't we lose
(02:12:51):
him the first ten to eleven.
Speaker 3 (02:12:52):
Games of the.
Speaker 1 (02:12:53):
Year that's. Huge so another name's, coming, People Rashawn slater's
just the first. One there's a, receiver a running. Back trust,
me there's a big. Name another big name guy is
gonna have a slip or have a teammate fall on
his legs or. Something The Rashaan slader, thing it wasn't
like high collision. Impact it was just normal. Practicing and once,
Again jared Vers klax needs would a guy and they're
(02:13:15):
hoping that's not a big, thing but more injuries are.
Speaker 2 (02:13:18):
Coming BUT i just wanted to just play around with,
you all, right all, right, WELL i mean look at
the BYE i don't. Mind you know, what if you're
a fan of a, team stay a fan of your.
TEAM i have a kid that is a die Hard chargers.
Fan he gets heat all the. Time why do you
stay with The? Chargers and his answer is simple because
they have always been my, team right, always even though
they've never done. Anything they never won A Super, bowl
(02:13:39):
they have One Super bowl. Appearance you, know he's twenty. Seven,
now he, goes they've never been in a Super bowl
in my. Lifetime it doesn't change the fact that he's
still a die Hard charger. Fan there's a, team and,
see this is WHAT i get a lot from people
that have listened to me for, YEARS. Vj they're very
anxious for me to get on the record with predictions
because they go opposite me and they have become very
(02:14:01):
rich off that for many many. Years So i'm not
quite to that, point but there is one team out
there That i'm very intrigued. With it was a TEAM
i thought very highly of going into last, season and
NOW i feel Like i'm going to repeat either the
same mistake Or i'm going to be ahead of the
curve with this.
Speaker 1 (02:14:20):
Prediction who is? It you'll find?
Speaker 3 (02:14:21):
Out this Is Fox Sports, Saturday.

season that's for. SURE i can't wait either. Minute CAN
i say something To Marry ian real? Quick miss you,
GUYS i, do, MAN i miss you. Guys we used
to do the show together for three. Years for three
years we Had, MARTIN V jay And.
Speaker 3 (02:15:14):
David he's the. Producer she was the. Engineer, mary she's.
Speaker 1 (02:15:18):
Slicks she plays certain, music like you notice how the
music changed once she got behind the. Board she does
that from why and she knows she's waiting to see
my reaction and she's waiting to play a certain beat.
Speaker 3 (02:15:28):
To see my.
Speaker 1 (02:15:29):
REACTION i MISS i miss you, well AND i missed
that about being in here with, You Mary mac for,
me my girl will dig into the. ARCHIVES i mean.
Speaker 3 (02:15:40):
She'll Play Betty davis.
Speaker 1 (02:15:41):
Eyes you, know come, on that's that's good you guys.
Way but that's good stuff. Though but your hip, Though,
steve you know you know about some explosive you know
you know you was, WELL i have twenty three twenty something.
KIDS i, MEAN i am exposed to certain, things you,
KNOW i have to sort of pay attention. To All,
Right SO i wanted to imagine this thing because coming,
up we're gonna do a little quarterback thing coming up.
Speaker 2 (02:16:01):
HERE i want to stay with a. Team, okay, Okay
so this team a year ago was my pick to
win The Super. Bowl it's, right you, know on the
sheet we have our sheet here At Fox sports ready
got to write all your predictions.
Speaker 1 (02:16:12):
Down AND.
Speaker 2 (02:16:15):
I am getting the sense again that this team is
going to have the kind of, season maybe not win
the Super, bowl but certainly a lot better than a
lot of people are. Predicting AND i know it seems
like ridiculous in light of what's happening with his team right,
Now but because of, That i'm more convinced than ever
that The Dallas cowboys are going to be with one
of the bounce back teams of THE nfl this. Season
(02:16:38):
everyone's talking about the forty nine. Ers could well. HAPPEN
i say this about the forty nine. Ers you got
to Keep christian McCaffrey. Healthy, right you don't have a healthy,
McCaffrey forget, it no. Shot but with The cowboys And
dak who was running up FOR, mvp a couple of years.
Ago understand this about The Micah parsons. SITUATION i don't
understand why this is such a big. Story he has no.
(02:16:59):
Bargaining he is under contract this season with The. Cowboys
if he doesn't, play he's losing paychecks and they can
control him for two more years by franchise tagging.
Speaker 1 (02:17:12):
Him he's not gonna get.
Speaker 2 (02:17:13):
Traded there's no trading To. Micah Jerry jones is holding
all the. Cards and why is why is he being.
Speaker 1 (02:17:21):
Hesitant because he Made Dak prescott the highest paid quarterback
in the league and when did it.
Speaker 3 (02:17:27):
Get him last?
Speaker 1 (02:17:27):
Year? Nothing and he got.
Speaker 2 (02:17:30):
Hurt so, yeah he's a little out of joined, about you,
know maxing out contracts when you're coming off a losing.
Speaker 3 (02:17:38):
Season but that doesn't change The Michael.
Speaker 2 (02:17:42):
Parsons Michael parsons will be A cowboy unless he decides
he doesn't want to play and forfeit.
Speaker 3 (02:17:46):
All his, salary which is not going to. Happen, Okay
Michael parsons will, play.
Speaker 1 (02:17:50):
He'll get it all. Back then eventually he will get.
Speaker 2 (02:17:53):
Back because of, THAT i think this is going to
be a very Motivated cowboys.
Speaker 1 (02:17:59):
Team in twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (02:18:01):
Five and remember again it's been twenty years since we
had a repeat winner of the. Nfcast so on, paper
it would appear that The eagles should walk to an
EASY Nfc east. Title i'm not saying they're gonna take
a step. Back people talked about The. Commanders i'm not
so sure they can do what they did a year
ago because they're not gonna sneak up on anybody this.
(02:18:23):
Year The giants are, awful but The, cowboys to, me
still on, paper should be a lot better.
Speaker 1 (02:18:29):
Than they saw last.
Speaker 2 (02:18:30):
Year SO i Maybe i'm, wrong but if WHEN i
look at over unders and, Wins i'm going over over
over on The Dallas cowboys in twenty twenty, Five, well
the schedule makers were kind to.
Speaker 1 (02:18:43):
Them so let's just start that the schedule makers are
coming for and they do start out with The. Eagles
but some numbers about The, eagles because The eagles are
a team that's, very very very interesting to me this,
year and not just because they had Defending Super bowl
champions up that they embarrass The Kansas City. Chiefs see
WHAT i did, There chiefs listener, man whatever your name.
Was after the embarrassed The chiefs in The Super bowl
they did start with ten draft. Picks this, year they
(02:19:06):
bought in twenty unsigned free agents and THEY i believe
thirteen draft picks next. Year they have a lot of new,
pieces a lot of young guys that they wanted to
get younger this. YEAR i don't know if that team
can actually go back to the Super. Bowl BUT i
do not expect The eagles to fall off the map
Unless Jalen hurts gets hurt like it had two years
(02:19:26):
ago after The Super, Bowl, Right Jalen hurt got hurt
and really played through that injury all year. Long it
culminated to a playoff loss At Tampa, bay and then
people are, like, oh last year was a flukeing up
the final, year he's, healthy he gets Sa Kwan barkley
runs for two thousand. Yards then they get to the
Super bowl and they win. It they cash And dallas
is a question mark for me BECAUSE i just you
(02:19:48):
get back, back, okay so let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:19:50):
There so you get that question, mark so get your quarterback.
Speaker 1 (02:19:53):
Back BUT i Just i've never been a believer ceed.
LAMB i don't care about the. NUMBERS i don't care
about the record season. Numbers when you put the tape
on he loses interest in, games he. Wanders he's an
average route. Runner he's not A chris route. Runner you
gotta be that to be able to be productive every
single time you step out on the. Field and he
still has a case of the drop seats, sometimes and
(02:20:15):
that just worries. Me Number, two they might have one
of the worst running back rooms in the league right. Now,
javontai what come, on, Man? LIKE i, mean if he
was that, good he would have been starting somewhere else.
Already running back is not one of these positioned guys
that you find a guy that was on three or
four other teams or two other teams and somehow he
(02:20:37):
gets to you and just.
Speaker 3 (02:20:38):
Explodes do you find an undrafted?
Speaker 7 (02:20:40):
Guy?
Speaker 1 (02:20:41):
Yeah do you find A Mike anderson or In Orlandis Gary, Like,
yeah you, do but not a guy that's been on
a bunch of other teams and has some injuries or
has some. Carries and then you finally get him and
you unlocked Pans Doris box about his running back possibilities and.
Speaker 3 (02:20:54):
Abilities that's just not gonna.
Speaker 1 (02:20:56):
Happen that's. There then you do have This mica thing
that is still floating over, them and let's not act
like When Dan quinn walked out the building to The Nation's.
Capitol that defense didn't feel. It it's it's gonna be tough.
Sledding but once, again did schedule makers help? Them you?
Did The giants are. Terrible dallas gets them the following.
Week then they're At, chicago WHO i think is gonna
(02:21:17):
be terrible home against The. Packers coin flip game at The,
jets coin flip game at The, Panthers, Commanders, broncos And.
Cardinals is how they start their first eight. GAMES i
could see four and. FOUR i can't, see Like francis
that game up with The. Jets that's a defense up.
Speaker 2 (02:21:33):
There he's got to HOPE i can Get right, now
The cowboys at seven and a half over over.
Speaker 3 (02:21:38):
Under can they get to eight and?
Speaker 1 (02:21:40):
Nine, yes, yes that's What i'm, saying, Right but that
doesn't mean that's still a question mark for.
Speaker 3 (02:21:48):
Me are they a nine win team or are.
Speaker 1 (02:21:51):
They at twelve one? Too because that in twelve thirteen, games,
guys that's all that. Does the way this league works
is very.
Speaker 2 (02:21:58):
Simple the differ between seven and ten and ten and
seven is a couple of, bounces, right an.
Speaker 3 (02:22:04):
Injury, Here it happens all the.
Speaker 4 (02:22:05):
Time.
Speaker 3 (02:22:06):
Everything it's, like why did this team goes seven and?
Ten why is this team?
Speaker 1 (02:22:09):
Ten and a couple of? Bounces that's it, there that's.
It there's not a lot to.
Speaker 2 (02:22:16):
Differentiate you're always going to have the you, know the
fourteen win teams or the fourteen loss. Teams those teams
are who they. Are the rest of it is the
middle of the. Pack seven and, ten ten and, seven
a couple of. Bounces either, way you're either you, know
sneaking in as a wild card or you're on the
outside looking.
Speaker 1 (02:22:31):
IN i just think that, somehow some, way The chips
are going to fall The cowboys when not making predictions,
yet but just don't win out. There for The cowboys right,
now they can win ten. Games if they can Keep
Dak prescott, healthy they can win ten. Games, well you guys,
know All dak does is win double ditchit games like.
That that goes thirteen and, three that was twelve thirteen,
games got exactly when he plays the whole. Season so
(02:22:51):
that's What i'm.
Speaker 2 (02:22:52):
With you look at their running, game they're gonna have
to find a right they don't have a running. Back
they've had some you, know they've had to rebuild their offensive.
Line they've got a lot of rebuilding to do.
Speaker 1 (02:23:00):
There but you still have a quarterback, that, again just
two years, ago was runner up for M. Vp SO i,
yeah what do.
Speaker 3 (02:23:06):
You think about?
Speaker 2 (02:23:06):
PICKINGS i, mean, again the receiving, corps it's up your.
QUARTERBACK a quarterback can upgrade a receiving a. Lot, Absolutely
and so you Know George Picken, YEAH i mean he's a,
PLAYER i, know but.
Speaker 1 (02:23:19):
It's just he's such a question. Mark that's that they
would down ON Cd lamb as you. ARE i, Mean
i've always thought, That kay Was.
Speaker 3 (02:23:28):
It seems like The cowboys always have receivers like.
Speaker 1 (02:23:30):
THAT i remember the first TIME i said, that you
were saying that About Amari. Cooper, NO i ACTUALLY i actually,
thought well he was there was no reason to trade
him and then PAY cd the. Money that's what upset
me is the fact that they traded him to PAY.
CD i felt like you already had that type of
receiver And Amari. Cooper, yeah but A Marik cooper was
(02:23:50):
all over the. Map you know that he was like
phenomenal one, year he would take a step. Back it
just seemed like whenever you, know contract time showed, up
so Did. Amory all, right let's find out what is
trending right. Now Chris purfett is back with more and,
uh very busy scoreboard.
Speaker 9 (02:24:09):
Today chris like probably the third or fourth most IMPORTANT
cp out, there considering how many others seem to have those.
Speaker 2 (02:24:16):
Initials but you THINK cp three is going to have
any impact on The. CLIPPERS i used TO i was
At Wake forest WHEN cp three Was, okay that's you're aging,
yourself BECAUSE i, SAID i.
Speaker 1 (02:24:27):
Was like going getting close to forty And i'm wearing.
CROSS i did not, Know, yes you are wearing cross
and And Mary Mary mack told me the little buttons
of what he's saying they're called, giblets which sounds like
something that black people use the season and stuffing. With
i've never heard giblets were like a part of a,
chicken right. Something, yeah that that that we used the
(02:24:47):
season giblets made?
Speaker 9 (02:24:50):
Whatever, yeah, YEAH i. Know, anyway we do have preseason
action going on right. Now Stetson bennett is your quarterback
for The, rams uh six for nine right. Now but
rookie Quarterback Blake korum for the formerly Of michigan for
The La rams has a touchdown run in this, game he's,
(02:25:11):
Five he's got five carries for twenty three, yards long
of nine and that touchdown. Run go blames up seven
nothing Early, actually late in the first quarter against The Dallas,
cowboys we said That Aaron rodgers and the and the
starters For Pittsburgh steelers not playing. Well no problem so,
far seven to three right now early. On Mason rudolph
(02:25:33):
is perfect of seven for seven seventy yards and a touchdown.
Pass Trevor lawrence getting some action six of seven for
forty three, yards And Travis hunters got himself two, targets two,
catches nine yards so, far starting him off a little
easy seven to three right now on that. Scoreboard, Earlier Jackson,
dart who was the first round pick for The New York,
(02:25:54):
giants played for the entire first half against The bills
twelve of, nineteen one hundred and fifty four. Yards yankees
And astros traded, leads but it Was Trenton grisham's solo
home run in the eighth that put the game in
the barn for The Bronx bombers five to. Four and
during The Old timers, Game Mariano, rivera The Old Time
yankees Closer Enter sandman tore his acl according to his
(02:26:17):
agent in a comment to The. Athletics so, hey the
injury woes for The yankees continue in multiple multiple. Ways
elsewhere on the baseball, scoreboard The angels have a four
to two lead in the bottom of the fourth against
The Detroit. Tigers pittsburgh's up one nothing bottom of the
third on The Cincinnati reds end of the. Third excuse,
(02:26:40):
Me baltimore and The, athletics Baltim The orioles got a
three to two lead top of the second, inning and
earlier On nationals defeated The giants four to.
Speaker 1 (02:26:49):
Two all, Right STEVE. Vj back to you. Guys all, Right,
chris thank you very very.
Speaker 2 (02:26:55):
Much once, Again hartman And husky, here we're coming live

(02:27:15):
Podcasts see today's show posted right after we get off the.
Air all, RIGHT i want everybody in on this right. Now,
Okay So vjen AND i were talking earlier that there
are four quarterbacks that have differentiated themselves from the rest
of the. PACK i don't think anyone's arguing About Patrick,
Mahomes Lamar, Jackson Josh, allen And Joe burrow are just
that is. Right that's THE a level. Yep, OKAY i
(02:27:38):
want to hear from. Everybody Mary, mack you can get
in as. Well gonna Get chris As Mike. OPEN i
ready to. Go are we all good with? Those is
the four best? Quarterbacks any argument on?
Speaker 1 (02:27:51):
That run me down again for.
Speaker 2 (02:27:52):
Me, Mahomes Lamar, Jackson Josh allen And Joe burrow again
good to. Me they are clear from everybody. Else Agree
pat out of respect and for what he's.
Speaker 3 (02:28:02):
Doing and second, one it's still it's still number, one, Right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:28:06):
WELL i Just I'm i'm eliminating those. FOUR i got.
Speaker 2 (02:28:09):
You so the question now is, this which quarterback is number?
Five so we got the top. Four you can put
in whatever you already you. Want, Mahomes, Jackson Alan, burrow
who is number five currently quarterback in THE? Nfl Mary,
mac do you have a choice for the number five
(02:28:31):
quarterback currently in THE.
Speaker 1 (02:28:32):
Nfl, hey, NO i don't thank, You Mary. MAC i
love her. Honesty Young, no, no, no, no wait, wait, okay,
wait we'll put this in AS jamai And chase play.
Receiver he's a wide.
Speaker 3 (02:28:42):
RECEIVE i don't even know the. Difference that's all you
need to, say.
Speaker 1 (02:28:45):
Thank you very.
Speaker 2 (02:28:45):
Much all, Right i'll go To Ian. Ian all, Right,
ian who is your number five quarterback in THE?
Speaker 1 (02:28:52):
Nfl right?
Speaker 8 (02:28:53):
Now you, KNOW i thought WHEN i had every quarterback
in the league in front of, me this would be
a lot easier than when you guys initially. ASKED i
didn't make it any. EASIER i Think i'm gonna a
tentatively go With Justin, herbert AND i know that the
elephant in the room with him is the fact that
he hasn't been able to get it, done like at
all in the.
Speaker 1 (02:29:11):
Playoffs like quite the. Opposite he's been bad in the.
Speaker 8 (02:29:13):
Playoffs BUT i don't, know man, LIKE i don't think
he's had enough opportunities yet in the playoffs for me
to definitively say that he can't get it. Done, yes
it was a really bad, showing but it was it,
was you, know a one game last year at least
the the you, know ugly multiple. Interceptions all, Right so
you're going With Justin, Herbert, yes, size, arm. MOBILITY i
just think he's he's gone. Everything steve doesn't even have
(02:29:36):
him as a top TEN i.
Speaker 1 (02:29:37):
Know i'm not surprised to hear, That. Steve i'm not
surprised at.
Speaker 3 (02:29:40):
All All, Right so that's, fine that your.
Speaker 2 (02:29:43):
Opinion i'm not Gonna everyone has their own. Opinion So
ian's in With Justin. Herbert, guy all, Right, chris who
is your number five? Quarterback Like?
Speaker 1 (02:29:51):
Ian?
Speaker 9 (02:29:52):
Like the tier two is, messy, Right LIKE i see
some people putting Up jayden And, daniels But i've seen
enough of sophomore slumps that he can't be up. There
matthew Staff i'd love to say if he was, healthy
but the problem is at this point In stafford's, career
he can't be healthy no matter.
Speaker 1 (02:30:06):
What AND i Love.
Speaker 9 (02:30:07):
STAFFORD a lot of guys look. Up that's ultimately the issue.
There Justin Herbert, AGAIN i feel Like Justin herbert's To
ian's point is kind of in That Matt stafford territory
Where Matt stafford was with The, lions where you see
all the, talent you see everything he's, done he just
doesn't get a lot of national attention because it's with
a team that not a lot of people either care,
(02:30:28):
about or it's the playoff bomb, outs Which stafford had
before he came to The. Rams so it's kind of
The it's kind of a similar situation With herbert AND
i want to go, there BUT i really think at
the end of the, day at the end of the,
day we just do not do not do not give
enough credit To Jalen.
Speaker 3 (02:30:45):
Hursts because of what he does on the, field how
he takes over the.
Speaker 9 (02:30:49):
Game everyone talks, About, oh it's a great roster around, him,
sure but they're all great rosters at the top of
this league. Too Lamar jackson's got a great roster. Too Jalen,
hurts the is the draw that stirs that drink In,
philadelphia his, physicality everything about. HIM i know he doesn't
putting up the eye popping, numbers but that's a MAN
i want running the.
Speaker 1 (02:31:09):
Team and he's my.
Speaker 2 (02:31:10):
Number, five all, Right Jalen, hurts you jumped up when
he said that because that's my number.
Speaker 3 (02:31:14):
Five, well by the, way CAN i just interject he's
also my number?
Speaker 1 (02:31:17):
Five thank? You, wow that's What i'm talking, about you,
know and again thank. You now this is not to
say that a guy Like Justin herbert either right at.
Speaker 2 (02:31:28):
All when you talk about the tools necessary to be
a great passing, quarterback Certainly herbert checks all the. Boxes but,
again quarterback to me is is there are a number
of factors. Here and the thing About Jalen hurts is
that leadership. Factor that AND i you, KNOW i have
been a proponent For Jalen hurts ever since he sat
(02:31:51):
on the bench At alabama for a full, year having
to Watch Tua tongue Of iiloa takeover after you, know
being the starting quarterback for two, years never said, anything
took his, medicine transfer To oklahoma run or up for
The Heisman. TROPHY i said going, IN i, SAID i
MEAN i used to ask this question Of hurts going
(02:32:12):
into THE, nfl give me a ceiling on this, guy
because that's What i'm trying to. Do i'm trying to draft.
Somebody i'm, like where do you see this guy? Ceiling
and everyone really had a hard time with.
Speaker 1 (02:32:22):
It they didn't.
Speaker 2 (02:32:23):
Know ALL i had to do is listen To Jalen
hurts AND i, go this guy's a born, leader he
will be successful in this.
Speaker 1 (02:32:30):
League so, YES i am one hundred percent With hurts
at number. Five and that's why Again i'm glad my
Guy ian is in here today because he is a
witness to someone who has Been Pom pom pushing For
Jalen hurts for the last three. Seasons for people to
give this guy his damn respect once, again just put
the tape. On, yes and this is not the Not.
(02:32:51):
Herbert herbert has all the measurables, Right he's got all the.
Talent he's definitely in my top. Ten unlike to my
guy sitting to my. LEFT i lets youreus co host
here who doesn't have him, there but we're splitting hairs
on that And Trevor. Lawrence But Jalen hurts not only
has been to The Super bowl. Twice let's not forget
even the game he, lost he Outplayed Pat. Mahomes he's
(02:33:12):
out Played Pat mahomes twice in two Separate Super, bowls
handing him a natural expeditiously asked whooping last year the
way that he did Winning Super BOWL. Mvp all the
things we ask quarterbacks to, do but for some, reason
when certain quarterbacks do what fans want them to, do
(02:33:32):
we are to find every reason why somebody else was the,
reason as If Joe montana didn't Have rice And taylor
And Bred jones And Roger craig who happened to be
the first running back IN nfl history to go for
gag through the air and on the, ground Like Kurt
warner didn't Have Ozier kim And Isai bruce And Tory,
hall like great quarterbacks don't have. Weapons but we've seen
(02:33:55):
quarterbacks with weapons and still can't get it. Done and
when the guy gets it, done and like you, said
just watch how he carries. Himself one of the things
about covering The rams and The chargers last, YEAR i
told you The chargers always wanted to get to the
pres comes gonna Love Jim, harbaugh AND i Love Justin
herber And Khalil mack And Derwin, james though those guys
are all really good guys and cool.
Speaker 3 (02:34:13):
Guys but some of the other, GAMES.
Speaker 1 (02:34:14):
I want to get to the visitors' locker room because
you don't get a chance to those, guys to see those.
Guys and when The ravens came to town AND i
did that, game and when The eagles came to the
town and did that.
Speaker 3 (02:34:22):
GAME i did not do the home locker room or
the home press.
Speaker 1 (02:34:25):
GOVERMENT i made SURE i went right to the visitors
BECAUSE i wanted to talk to The Lamar jackson AND
i wanted to get a question out To Jalen hurts
and just watching this man handle, himself which?
Speaker 3 (02:34:35):
Matters it? Mattered Asks Ryan.
Speaker 1 (02:34:37):
Leaf if handling yourself doesn't, Matter Ask Jeff george if
handling yourself doesn't matter being a. Quarterback he has done
everything he's been asked to, do and for some, reason
the guy's been to Two Super. Bowls Josh allen ain't
been to, one and we still keep Saying Josh, Allon Josh,
Allon Josh Josh.
Speaker 3 (02:34:54):
Allen ain't been to.
Speaker 1 (02:34:55):
One Jalen hurts has been to two and one one right, There,
yes he is number five from, me my number.
Speaker 2 (02:34:59):
One i'm gonna tell you one name and this will
set you on, fire THAT i would right now place
ahead Of Justin. HERBERT i, mean there's a lot of.
Guys you can you make an argument for A Jayden
daniels Or jordan Lover. Baker mayfield to me IS i
am always been A mayfield. Fan seventy one percent completion,
percentage forty one touchdown passes last. Year i'll higher Passer
(02:35:22):
raady And Justin. Herbert and here's WHAT i know About Baker.
Mayfield he's got more fire in his, gut more fire
in his gut because of that perennial chip on his
shoulder Than Justin herbert has shown. Me and For herbert
to absolutely wilt under the spotlight of that playoff game
and throw more interceptions and in one playoff game than
he had the entire year he plays At, Say Baker
(02:35:43):
mayfield is a risk. Taker i've always been In mayfield's,
corner and, YES i would Rate mayfield ahead Of Justin
herbert right now that.
Speaker 1 (02:35:51):
We can have that discussion for those, SHOWS i want
to go To Josh allen for a. Second i'm, SORRY
i gotta throw a monkey wrench in this BECAUSE i
got to stick trough to my. Guns why CAN'T i
Have Jalen hurts rank hired In Josh allen right there
the other. Side think about, it, okay and then you'll
(02:36:12):
then you'll you'll realize why you.
Speaker 2 (02:36:13):
Can't that's coming. Up this Is Fox Sports, Saturday Fox Sports,
Saturday Steve harbin and V. J. Husky by the, way

Speaker 2 (02:36:51):
Cp mary Mac, well she's a she's a young, legend
leon legend. HERE i love the fact that she, admits
why AM i talking about SOMETHING i can't give an
answer to. That honesty will get you a long way.
Speaker 3 (02:37:06):
MARRIAGE i did look at the list.
Speaker 1 (02:37:07):
Though you know what's, real, though is you've always been
this way though from the Time i've started, here you
still have not learned a damn thing that's okay about.
Speaker 3 (02:37:19):
Sports Like i'm not, SURE i Know i'm, exaggerating.
Speaker 1 (02:37:22):
But you're not where you should be.
Speaker 3 (02:37:26):
As many hours as you put in this.
Speaker 2 (02:37:28):
Place and then he and our producer that that was
a quick show. Today we had the doubles shows today
and more hours felt like, TWO i, mean just like
really went quick today of course you slowed it down
by suddenly the last. Second look at LIKE i, Said
i'm A Jalen hurts. Fan i've always been A Jalen hurts,
fan and yes he is definitely my number. Five but
(02:37:48):
then you, offered why can't we Have Jolin hurts ahead
Of Josh, allen based again on the fact That Jalen
hurts has been to Two Super, Bowls he's been the
better quarterback in both super bowl and he's a Super bowl,
champion And Josh allen record.
Speaker 1 (02:38:04):
Like why can't he why can't he be? Better you
Kidd Josh? ALLEN i asked you how many times throughout
the show today about the top four? Quarterbacks and, YOU i,
KNOW i, know all that a sudden we Said Jalen,
hurts and all of a Sudden you're, like well why
was you?
Speaker 3 (02:38:20):
Guys because it touched the nerve with? Me is that
always has been With?
Speaker 2 (02:38:23):
Jalen now are we gonna are we gonna alter what
we've been? Saying i'm going in top, four it's a top.
Speaker 1 (02:38:31):
Five, okay that's, fine but why someone has to tell
me why CAN'T i Have Jalen hurts Over Josh?
Speaker 3 (02:38:40):
Allen when he's Done he's done what we ask quarterbacks to.
Speaker 8 (02:38:44):
Do do you think that if you Put Josh allen
on The, eagles he wouldn't have accomplished the Same.
Speaker 1 (02:38:49):
See we get now you Think barkley had any impact
On jalen.
Speaker 3 (02:38:53):
A, Point but at the end of the, day we
could say that about a.
Speaker 1 (02:38:56):
Lot of different.
Speaker 2 (02:38:57):
Players, okay so right, Now jalen heard his career postseason
record is six and.
Speaker 3 (02:39:02):
Three Lamar jackson is three and.
Speaker 1 (02:39:05):
Five. Right last year he was four and h and
he Was Super BOWL, mvp right. RIGHT i, Mean i'm
just Mentioned Josh. Allen why would you Mention Josh allen
and Now Lamar. Jackson why wouldn't you Have Jalen hurts
ahead Of Lamar? Jackson Because Josh allen is this guy
that we keep, like we keep, annoying we keep giving
(02:39:28):
him as Excuse Lamar.
Speaker 3 (02:39:33):
Jackson i'm not making excuses For Lamar.
Speaker 1 (02:39:35):
JACKSON i just said the ONE Afc championship game With
Tom monkey forgot how to call. Plays that's all Of
that's the only Time i've ever gone the guy's gotta.
Win that's Why i'm picking him IN. Afc possibly not just,
yet But i'm leaning towards them as MY afc pick
to get to the Super, bowl because at some point
he's gotta get, there OR i will sit here and, say, look,
man L jackson is my, guy but you ain't done it. Yet.
Man it's just like My Listen marino's my favorite quarterback
(02:39:57):
of all, time And i'll never play him over certain
people because you don't have that. Ring, now as the
list goes, down we've already all agreed it gets to
a certain point where he's got to make the list
because he was just that damn. Good but when we're
talking about players of today and the way we talk ON,
tv the way we talk on, radio we set these
parameters and these borders for, quarterbacks and when a guy accomplishes,
(02:40:18):
them we still are taking other quarterbacks that have not
done that and put him over. Him And i'm just simply,
asking why CAN'T i Have Jalen hurts Over Josh.
Speaker 2 (02:40:29):
ALLEN i would, SAY i, ask you, Can but if
you're gonna put him over, him you're gonna have to
put him Over Lamar. Jackson, fine because it's based on
Your you're what you're saying About Jalen hurs is he's done.
It he's won A Super, Bowl he's been in Two Super. Bowls,
fine you can rate him Over Josh, allen but you
have to do. Both by the Way Keillo burrow brought
postseason is five and.
Speaker 10 (02:40:48):
TWO i, mean CAN i have a back door say
That Lamar jackson's got two. MVPs, okay you also Discussed.
Warner you Also smith's Kurse, warner who was a two
time mv. PEOPLE i DON'T i hear much more coming
up On Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (02:41:05):
Radio
