Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up straight Fire? Bam, It's me Jason.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
McIntyre Straight Fire for Tuesday, October the fourteenth. Oh, it
was a phenomenal night in sports. A little scary if
you're a Dodgers fan, scary if you're a Washington fan.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Terrifying if you're a Buffalo Bills fan.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
And I start with the scary thing because obviously Halloween
is approaching, you start getting invited to parties, and the.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Wife and I settled on Halloween costumes.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Not scary, but we're doing the joint costume thing and
my son I pick them up from school and he's like, oh, Dad,
wait till I show you the trailer of this scary movie.
And I'm like, what is it. He's like Scream six
and I'm like, come on, bro, really, let's go watch
Screen the original. It's scary as hell. I still remember
watching him for the first time, so he's all geeked.
(01:00):
So we're gonna watch Scream this week. I highly recommend
you lean into any movies your kids wanted to watch.
But I'll tell you right now, if you're a Buffalo
Bills fan, you don't want to watch the replay of
Falcons twenty four Bills fourteen. I mean, I don't know
how we characterized the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
We did this whole? Is anybody good thing? I think
two weeks ago or last week.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
I'm just gonna tell you the last three weeks, Buffalo
has sputtered against the Saints and then pulled away late
to get the win, lost outright to the Patriots, who
might be good, and then lost on the road at
the Falcons, and we're thoroughly outplayed folks. With two minutes
left in the game. Bijon Robinson had more yards from scrimmage,
(01:48):
more offense than the entire Buffalo Bills offense. Okay, and
then you start to drill down, You're like, jeez, Josh
Allen did not look good.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Let me just see who the Bills beat.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Okay, they beat the Ravens in that thrilling comeback, which
at the time, I'm you know, I guess we can
call it a good win because the Ravens were healthy, right,
but they needed like an epic comeback in the final
I think fifteen points in the last like six minutes
or something crazy. After that, they beat the winless Jets
the one win Dolphins. I think Miami has one or
two wins whatever. The Dolphins to suck. You know that
(02:19):
they're terrible, and then they beat the Saints, who are
not good. Those are the wins for the Buffalo Bills,
and now they're off back to back losses. The offense
could do nothing right. I mean, folks, I don't know
if that was the I think that was the worst
first half I've ever seen Josh Allen play. He tried
to give Atlanta points at the end of the half,
threw a pick with like seven seconds left, and then,
(02:40):
in an unbelievable turn of the events, Drake London breaks
loose and all of a sudden, Drake London is about
to score a touchdown. They think it's a touchdown, but
he stepped out and they get zero points. It was
at that point that I knew my over was cooked.
Now I did lose money last night, which sucks because
I was I mean, I hit the Falcons right in
(03:01):
the contest four and won my best week of the season.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
But I had the over forty nine. It's twenty one seven.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Like midway through the second quarter, I'm like, oh, we're coasting,
and then it all fell apart at the block field goal,
the Falcons stopped playing offense. I mean, it was a
nightmare for Atlanta, but it was less about the Buffalo defense.
I'm just telling you they're not good. Bijon Robinson nineteen
carries for a buck seventy. Now, a lot of that
was on the eighty one yard carry, but that's still
(03:28):
eighteen carries. Even if you strip that out the explosive
eighteen carries for ninety one yards, that's still overs what
five six yards of carry?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Okay, so not six five yards of carry. That's still
a really good night for Bijon. And then they couldn't
guard Drake London ten for a buck fifty eight.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
So now all of a sudden, you're telling me that
the Buffalo Bills can't stop running backs. We knew that coming.
In Kendre Miller the Saints. I picked him up in
fantasy because of what he did to the Bills. He
hasn't really done much since. Nevertheless, and they can't guard
Drake London. We know they got over by Derek Henry.
I mean, this is not a good football team right now.
And then offensively, as Josh Allen's trying to mount a comeback, folks.
(04:09):
These are the guys he's thrown to. This is as
the kids like to say, no cap Tyrrell Shavers. I
promise you, I've never heard of him in my life.
I'm gonna click his bio right now because they were
thrown to him on like the final drive. Tyrrell Shavers
is a twenty six year old undrafted guy out of
San Diego State. I've never heard him his name in
(04:32):
my life. So that's the kind of offense you're looking at.
Tyrell Shavers. Keon Coleman had three catches for eleven yards.
Ray Davis out of the backfield stealing my thunder from
James Cook.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Kim k didn't play.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Dawson knocks one catch to I mean, this is just
a It is just an ineffective offense. And for the
first time, Josh Allen looked confused. Rob to me, He's like, guys,
aren't open. I can't play Superman. On every possession.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
I'm getting hit a lot. He got hit six times.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
The Falcons broke through the line of scream Mister three
tackles for loss.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
They had four sacks and this isn't even a great defense.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I mean, I'm kind of sort of stunned by this result,
even though I had the Packers in the points. You
don't expect Buffalo to get beat down by ten to Atlanta.
I mean, it's a Buffalo team that usually doesn't get
work like this. So I just wanted to start here
because I think they're in legit trouble. Now, Rob, if
you really want to laugh, and I know you love laughing, okay,
I'm gonna rattle off for you the current playoff standings
(05:34):
in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
This is not opinion.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
This is just if the season and today, and it's not.
These are the playoff teams. Number one Indianapolis Colts ain't
a damn soul. Had that Number two Pittsburgh Steelers, okay,
number three LA Chargers, Number four New England Patriots, they
would host number five Buffalo in a playoff game right
now because they have the tiebreaker by virtue of the
head ted win okay. Number six in the AFC Jacksonville,
(06:03):
Number seven Denver Broncos. So as of now, and obviously
things are going to change, But were six games in
a little more than a third of the way through
the season, about thirty five percent whatever you want to
call it. Currently, Patrick Mahomes, C. J. Stroud, Joe Burrow,
Lamar Jackson are not in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Now. I cannot fathom anything like that happening. But I
will say this, this idea that the Bills, Chiefs and
Ravens are going to run rough shot over the AFC
and they're the best teams, we have seen no evidence
of that noune so far through six weeks. Rob, I'm
kind of sort of stunned.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Yeah, me too, well, although I will admit that when
I and other people, I think maybe even you picked
the Buffalo Bills to be the top seing the AFC,
it had less to do with us thinking that they
were just leaps and bound and head and shoulders better
than everybody else. It had everything to do with man,
that schedule is a tiptoe through the tulips, like they
are going to be favored basically in every game that
(06:58):
they play that you're expecting them to roll with a
minimum like thirteen wins, right, Like you just pencil that in.
And for whatever reason, these last two games they have
completely fallen apart offensively. We like to play this game
with the Eagles, especially about how the sky is falling.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
You gotta fire the OC.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
There's something going on, Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown Saequon Barkle,
what's going on in Philadelphia. We're gonna lead three shows
a week talking about that offense. In the last two games,
the Eagles and the Bills, both zero and two, both
averaging seventeen points a game, both averaging exactly five point
seven yards per play. They are mirror images of each other.
(07:42):
But Buffalo does not get the same kind of discourse
because it's not seen as a toxic work environment. Right,
Buffalo is you almost feel bad for Josh Allay, you
feel sympathetic, and a lot of it's true because their
receiving cores is mediocre at best. Right, Like I read
a stat early on Monday and Tuesday, Josh Allen was
(08:04):
blitzed on fifty six percent of his dropbacks. Last night,
he was pressured on forty four percent of his drop backs. Okay,
that is of course, his highest pressure rate of the
season and the only time he's been pressured more than
thirty percent at the time, which tells me either one
(08:24):
the offensive lines out holding up, which I would not
say that because I think the offensive line is very good.
It's one of the better offensive lines in football. What
it really tells me is Atlanta and other teams across
the NFL have zero fear in their receiving cores. They're
gonna get all up in those guys. They're gonna say, hey,
Keon Colman thinks you can beat us, go for it, Shakira,
(08:45):
things can bet a go for it. You think Dalton
Kincaid and Dawson Knox, the dynamic duo tight end is
gonna beat us deep, go for it. We are gonna
hug up on those guys, and we're gonna send the
house at Josh Allen. And if Josh Allen goes Superman
yolo and beats us, so be it. But we are
not going to allow him to stand back there and
pick us apart. We're gonna get after him and force
(09:06):
the guys on the outside to win one on one battles,
which they just cannot do.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Right now.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
I do wonder what what do you think of the
James Cook situation. They seem to go away from him
early and then they realized that halftime, oh damn, we
have a top five back in the NFL. Let's give
him the ball. They do on that drive down the
field and then again then they just stop going to
him again. And I'm looking closely because Cook's on my
fantasy team, and he didn't really go off.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
I mean, we need like forty from him to compete,
but it was just weird.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
I don't what's their identity on offense because this you know, James, sorry,
Josh Allen being a superman yolo that can work in
a one game one off in the playoffs, you know two.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Or three times. Sure it's not a word for second
ward for seventeen games. Yeah, I mean it's one of
those situations.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
And I Joe Brady has not been good the last
two weeks, like, let's just call it what it is.
The last year or so I thought. I think he's
very good. He's been a clear upgrade from what they
had before. But one issue that he runs into that
you see a lot with Monkin in Baltimore is even
though their identity is a running team, I think Buffalo,
(10:14):
even with Josh Allen, their identity is they are a
running football team, and let Josh play off of that.
They get so enamored with their quarterback skill set that
they think that that guy can do so many things
and they can. But that's not like a consistent recipe.
You can't always count on extra superhuman effort to win
(10:34):
these games, and he shouldn't have to, to be quite
honest with you, you should be able to lean on
the running game and then throughout the game sprinkle in
the Josh Allen magic. Not Josh Allen be magical throughout
the game and then will sprinkle in the running game.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Shouldn't be that way, should be the way around.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
I just they have a buy this week and then
they face the Panthers and then a big win against
the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
That's gonna be a seismic game.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Now, the Chiefs do have Jaden Daniels Washington before that,
and I don't know how that game's gonna go, but
I want a dovetail to Washington.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
I was at Chargers Washington with a couple buddies two
weeks ago, and I'm just telling you, the Chargers were
rolling them in the first quarter, first half really until
the Quinton Johnson fumble. They're about to go up seventeen
to nothing, Quinton fumbles right around the red zone and
Washington took over the game. You know, early on, Jadan
Daniels was off. It was his first game back, and
he was lights out in the second half. Pretty much
(11:39):
saw the same thing again from Jadan Daniels last night
against the Bears. He starts off kind of slow, so
there's a brutal red zone interception. They find themselves down
thirteen to nothing, and then you know, halftime hits and
all of a sudden, we see a different quarterback. Jadon
Daniels is mowing up and down the field. Interestingly, no
(12:00):
Terry McLaurin last night, so I was a little nervous.
Could could he get it done again without McLaurin. Rob
g These are the guys who caught passes. Caught some
passes from Jayden Daniels. Somebody named Chris Moore. I'm assuming
that's the guy who used to play for the Colts.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Is it twenty six? He's never heard of it? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah, again not total non entity. Caught an amazing touchdown pass.
Jayleen Lane caught a thirty seven yard bomb. I saw
him make a great move on the sideline on the
dB caught it. I was like, wow, what who is this?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Jayleen Lane? He is a rookie out of Virginia Tech. Okay, okay.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Luke McCaffrey, who I pick up and drop in fantasy
pretty much every other week.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
One cat's thirty three yards. It was a touchdown. It
was wide open. Deebo got bottled up.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
It's tough for me in the rain to think Jayden
can win a game with Chris Moore, Jalen Lane, and
Luke McCaffrey as his top targets. All of a sudden,
My big take away, it's like, WHOA, Washington's in trouble,
but Jayden Daniels takes over until they couldn't take over
and they had their third turnover wet ball, Jayden mishandles
it fumble, They fumble the handoff and the Bears, you know,
(13:14):
take over with like what three minutes left.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
They go right down the field for the game winning
field goal.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Jake Moody delivers, and I mean that is just a
devastating loss for Washington, which falls to three and three.
They had a chance to tie Philly atop the division,
which they could have used. This is a big loss
for Washington. And if you're the Dallas Cowboys and you think, oh,
we got a shot, we got a shot, we got
something here. Just a very odd game from Washington's perspective.
(13:41):
Their three turnovers resulted directly in thirteen points for the Bears,
a field goal in the first half, then a touchdown,
and then the field goal at the end of the game.
And Washington also missed the field goal. I mean, just
a wacky game. I don't know what to make the Bears, Rob.
I mean, I'm out here spitballing saying, you know what
(14:04):
I mean, She's the Bears were smart. I don't think
they can they can like win the championship this year.
I don't think they can go to the Super Bowl.
I don't even think their NFC championship material. I think
they can win some games and be interesting and kind
of you know, fall ass backwards like they did here
into a victory. But the reality is, if I'm the Bears,
I'm planning for next year. You're two of Ben and Caleb.
(14:24):
That's when they're gonna make the jump to light speed.
So I'm like, Damn, DJ Moore looks fricking good. I mean, Rob,
you know you look at the Buffalo Bills tonight.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
They don't. They lack badly a number one receiver. I
saw Luther Burden for the Bears. He looks like he's
got some pop.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Okay, so you got Luthor burdon Roma Dunzell, why don't you.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Ship DJ Moore to Buffalo called me like, hey, Buffalo,
you want Dj Moore?
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Give me a second and a fourth. I don't know,
second and a fifth. I'll take a couple of picks.
We're not winning anything this year, so I know that
Bears fans are like, Jason, that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
We could go to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Okay, fine, you know I'm about building for the future,
and I just I don't see this Bears team like
making a deep run. And plus, eventually you're gonna have
to move off these guys anyway to start paying people,
So why not do it early?
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Now?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
The Bears rob Interestingly, they have the Saints next, not
a lock, but they're gonna be favored by probably a touchdown.
Then unfortunately, they get the Ravens off a bye and
I believe Lamar will be back and probably everyone else,
so we'll give that a loss. They do still get
to face Jake Browning and Jackson Dart assuming he's still
standing upright, So this team could be five hundred heading
(15:32):
into the home stretch.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
And I don't know where the Niners are gonna be
late in the season.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Browns are probably gonna be on shador Like there's a
world where they're an eight to nine football team, maybe
nine to eight.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
But Rob in the NFC, that's not gonna cut it,
is it?
Speaker 4 (15:44):
No? No, but but I will say this, and this
is full disclosure. I floated the idea and I still
I believed it at the time that we would have
a quarterback controversy in Chicago by Halloween.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
I don't see that.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Happening anymore, right, Like at full disclosure, and watch these
guys play. And I not to say that Caleb Williams
has been outstanding right, Like he still has some accuracy issues,
to put it lightly, you know, he's completing just north
of the six per cent of his past if you
take away that Dallas game where he was ungodly Like,
he's been okay, he's been fine. Yeah, But one thing
that he has done last night and two weeks ago
(16:18):
against my Raiders, he's engineer two game winning drives.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Say what you want about him.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
And his accuracy issues and him not seeing the field,
not processing well, and all of that might be true,
but he is making plays when they need him to
be made, and at this point in his career, that's
really all you can hope for. And I think the
Ben Johnson dynamic is still a work in progress. I
(16:44):
think that there are still plays that are schemed up,
that are there that he's not hitting. But so long
as they're remaining competitive and if he can keep eking
out of these ways. Now, even though to your point,
Washington gave it away more than Chicago took it in
the end, fell they all count the same. And I
guarantee you that if they get to Thanksgiving and they're
(17:06):
in the mix somewhere like around six and five, seven
and four, whatever it is, they're gonna be feeling real
good about themselves, no matter how it looks, no matter
what the you know, the scheme and the fit really say,
because if they're winning games, all that really matters.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
I mean, that's Ben Johnson. He's a good coach. I
like some of the stuff that dialed up now. I
was saving this rob. You know, the bye I think
was kind of kind of a big deal. The Atlanta
Falcons come off of bye and beat the Bills out right,
they look they look good, well for a half, then
they stop playing. The Bears come off of bye. They
(17:41):
take a thirteen to nothing lead in the first half. Okay,
they look good. They get to win on the road.
The Packers off of bye. Now they were playing the Bengals,
but that was ten to nothing. Hold on, I have
a stat in my phone here that I got from
the TV that I forgot to say yesterday. So at
in the first half, the Packers were up in yards
two hundred and forty one to twenty against the Bengals.
(18:03):
So coming off the buy Packers look really freaking good.
And then the Steelers off the by kind of curb
stopped the Browns. Now we can say, hey, those teams
are still stinks. It's Joe Flacco, it's Dilan Gabrielle. Okay,
just worth monitoring. Vikings and Texans were on a bye
this week. They come out facing the Eagles and Seahawks.
(18:25):
So those are two interesting games. I'm gonna look into
first half on the team's coming off the by just
as a betting thing. As a little side note, rob
let me ask you for this to go back to
the Bills real quick before we touch up Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
I'm curious where are you on this?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Should Buffalo go get a wide receiver because keyon Colemember
he was suspended for the first quarter or first half
against the Patriots. Shakir is a nice slot guy, but
I don't think he's winning on the outside. I cannot
imagine that Shavers is going to be a go to
guy into playoff games. I mean, I haven't seen anything
from him. I'm sure they like him a lot, But
(19:03):
if this is your window, right, Josh Allen, his contract
chiefs don't look amazing. Isn't this the time Buffalo should
just kick the tires? Hey, Dj Moore, what can we
get him? I mean, they won't call the Jets for
Garrett Wilson. He'd be too pricey.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
But like Josh Palmer is fine, but like, they need
to go get somebody. I think you've got to look
around the league.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
I mean, I doubt the Bengals would be like, hey,
you know, I saw Trey Hendrickson got hurt. By the way,
I doubt they'd be willing to part with t Higgins,
you know, especially in the conference. Joe Burrow would never
never let them hear the end of it. But I
think you've got to look around the league, look at
some teams that are underachieving. I mean, you know, Chris
Olave with the Saints, I don't know. I doubt they'd
(19:47):
move off him. I still think he's on his rookie deal.
The Bucks have too many injuries. Arizona's interesting because they
have Marvin Harrison, they have Trey McBride. Now, Harrison was concussed,
but a fellow by the name of Zay Jones came
in and look pretty good.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Do you try to pluck him? Michael Wilson is their
number two. I don't.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
I don't think they do what DJ Moore would do.
But I definitely think Buffalo needs to be in the
market for a wide receiver. I know people aren't gonna
want to hear that because they're like, no, we're good.
We could look at last year, we how far we
got Again, that was last year.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
This is different. This is a different year. You're the hunted.
Now everybody knows you guys are the favorites. No one
thousand percent agree with you.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
And it's not even just that you know, this is
their window, right because anytime you have Josh Allen, you
think that your window is probably two years longer than
what it really is. But what it really comes down
to is Kansas City looks vulnerable, even if they're surging
a little bit right now, they look vulnerable. They're not
as good as they have been. The Chargers are injury ravage.
(20:50):
They're not as good as you thought they would be.
Bo Nix, and that that Bronco's offense, despite the record,
has not been as good as you would expect them
to be. You thought the defense was going to be
all world in the offense would catch up, and they
just have Baltimore's way down right. Joe Burrow was hurt, Like,
who is in your way at this point? A forty
one year old Aaron Rodgers. No, we got worried about that.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Are you worried about the Colts? Maybe?
Speaker 4 (21:14):
But even then, like if you had to really break
it down, you say, hey, coming up at the AFC
Divisional weekend, we got the Buffalo Bill's Josh Allen hosting
Daniel Jones Inneapolis, Colts, are you really going to be like, hey,
I'm picking against Josh Allen. No, So why wouldn't you
if you just look at the lay of the land
and say do even if we don't have our best
(21:36):
team that we've had in this in this run, our
best team may have been two or three years ago.
We're being out with the defense and the offense kind
of meeting in the middle there. Why can't we push
all in and kick the can down the road to
Salary Cap and go get you mentioned DJ Moore, Chris o'lave.
I don't think you get Aj Brown, but swing for
the fences, like like, why wouldn't you.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Also, while we're at it, I was going to move
to baseball, but I totally forgot. It was such a
crazy night last night that the Titans fired their coach,
Brian Callahan, who pretty clearly was in Nepo.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Baby.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
You know his dad was a former coach in college
in the NFL, and he was just in over his head.
I don't like when reporters do this, but they're like
a lot of players in the locker room said they
were surprised this didn't happen last.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Week, or something to that effect, like, Bro, where was
this reporting last week?
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Bro?
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Come on?
Speaker 3 (22:25):
So you never know what to believe, But bottom line
is it sounds like Callahan just did not have a
grasp of what the.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Hell was going on there. Calvin Ridley got hurt.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
And you have to wonder, do the Titans start saying, hey,
we're going to move off some guys to start picking
up draft picks.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
We got a lot of work to do. Now.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Calvin Ridley's kind of bounced around the league at his height,
you know, at the apex of his career, he was
like a number one. Now that didn't last long. But
I think for sure, you know Ridley, what was he
twenty nine? He's thirty turned thirty one soon.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Damn.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Oh well, he was like an old guy in college.
Remember he was like almost too old in high school
and then he was a little older in college. I
think Calvin Ridley could make sense. I do think the
Titans are kind of interesting because is that a good
job rob A and B. Do you try to go
for a former head coach or do you try to
(23:17):
go for some upstart young guy, because it seemed like
they tried that with Brian Callahan, who was an OC
and a quarterbacks coach, and he just couldn't command the
locker room, you know, like I think Cliff Kingsbury, who
has thrived with Jayden Daniels, right would make sense with
cam word. The problem is is he gonna be able
to hold guys accountable in the locker room. He's still
(23:39):
like young, cool guy, maybe better suit as in OC,
a little laid back and chill, wants to travel and
party and have fun with you know, juggle women or
whatever he's doing. I listen, he's a handsome guy. Come on,
that guy's got a lot of stuff going on. Is
he gonna want to be like cracking the whip on
these on these players or does he want to like, actually,
just hey, I'll coach offense.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
I want to have a life. I don't do you.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Want to be Mike McDaniel, Like, that's the question, right,
is he going to be able to do it? To
answer your first question, no, it is not an attractive job.
And the reason being is number one, they are devoid
of talent. Like outside of Jeffrey Simmons, I don't think
there's anybody on that team where you're like, oh, I
gotta go acquire that guy. Gotta go with Calvin. Really,
I gotta get Tony Pollard, I gotta go get you know, Tajy.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
I saw that Adam Schefter tweeted this out on Monday afternoon.
Did you know that the last four quarterbacks taking number
one overall have had their coach fired during their rookie season?
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Oh? God, Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
Bryce Young, Caleb Williams, cam Ward And I was tracking
my brain all day on Monday trying to figure out
why that is right? Like, what do these guys have
in commedy? Look at the coach like Urban Meyer, Frank Wright,
Maddie Ebraflus, Brian Kallen, and none of those guys are
like similar. Like Urban Meyer was the college legend who
just tried to go to the NFL. Didn't work out.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Wait Urban was his rookie year. Yes, with Trevor Lawrence.
Oh that was so bad.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
Frank Wright had a reputation as being a really good
offensive mind. It didn't really work out as the head coach.
Matti Everflus with none of the defensive guy Brian Gallahan
was the upstart. Like none of these guys are all
that similar, and the only thing I settled on is
we have reached a point in our sports society where
we have decided that if you are the number one
(25:36):
pick in the NFL Draft and you're a quarterback, that
you are a generational franchise altering prospect. And the reality
is maybe twenty percent of those guys are. It is
extremely rare to find a quarterback at the top of
the draft where no matter where you drop him, the
(25:58):
circumstances will be in such a way where he's gonna
be able to elevate everybody around him. Cam Ward, I think,
is a fine quarterback prospect, but he is not one
of those guys where I was say, hey, I'm gonna drop
you off here in Tennessee with a thirty year old
Calvin Ridley a alec I am Minor as your second
(26:18):
best receivers, don't forget about Tony Pollard. Tony Pollard, right,
who was cast off from Dallas, and you're gonna be
able to put up big points and wins for us, Like,
that's not the way it works, bro. You need a
lot of stuff around you, you need a really good
structure around you, and you're asking these guys to come
in and play savior, and that's just not fair because
(26:39):
most of them aren't, to be quite honest with you.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yeah, being a franchise savior is extremely difficult. Remember we
were like two weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
It's like hey or no. He had Devin Gardner on
last week, the Michigan guy. It was like Dante Moore
number one pick. He goes out and LAIDs a major
egg against Indiana. I mean, we were so desperate for
quarterbacks that we want those. Anybody we see who looks
kind of good. It's like the guy who's so desperate
for a prom date that he's just grasping at anyone.
Oh hey, are will you go to the problem? You know,
(27:09):
just not even doing your research. If this is gonna
be fun or a good fit, I don't know. There's
no easy solution. It is interesting though, Bryce Young has
had a bit of a turnaround. Some of these guys
who flopped, and we've talked about this, like Darnald Baker,
hell Mac Jones. They've enjoyed turnarounds, but that first year
(27:30):
is gonna suck ass. Now, I will say this, who
I'm assuming the Jets get number one? Rob I'm guessing
they're gonna, well, I don't do if they fire Aaron
Glenn this year, then they probably will not fire the
next coach midway through the season, right, So if they
(27:51):
keep Aaron Glean, it's probably safe to say he's gonna
be gone through the rookie Seaton.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Right to go with your theme, I had not seen that.
That was interesting.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Yeah, it's one of those situations where, like, you know,
nobody's patient anymore. We're not gonna let these guys sit
and learn. You're expected to come right in and play.
And the reality is most of these guys number one
are not ready to play because the college game and
the NFL game are so different. You know, they they
do snapcounts now by clapping their hands in college, like
you don't do that in the NFL. Like the the
(28:21):
play calls in college are colors and numbers like good luck,
Like you're not gonna do that in the NFL. And
they're expected to show up after playing at some you know,
power five school where they got five stars all over
the place, and they're coming to also random franchise where
everybody's in disarray, and it's like, yeah, go ahead and
win seven games.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
It's not gonna happen. Yeah, it's it's extremely tough.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
I mean, listen, football is hard winning consistently in this league, Hugh,
I did. I'm just gonna before we pivot to baseball,
let me quickly tell you so, I you know, you
have a good week, you're.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Feeling feeling yourself.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
You're all cocky.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
I went and made a lot of bet throble. Let
me just it was just dumb because it's so early
in the week. Here's what I have for Week seven.
I did grab Seahawks minus three against Houston. Now that
was before I noticed the bye week thing. Seattle minus
three at home against Houston. This defense is nasty. The
(29:16):
offensive line for the Texan stinks. Seattle should be getting
healthier in the secondary. Any thoughts on Seattle at home
against Houston.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Oh, I really like Seattle. I mean I know that
you and Colin we both like him. So they're gonna
get crushed.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Yeah, you guys have been on that train, you know,
well before the rest of America has, you know, And
that defense is really really good. And Sam Donald very quietly,
if we look at all the advanced thatts is playing
some of the best ball in the foot in the NFL,
point blank.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Like as good as whoever your favorite quarterback is.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
If you look at all the advanced stats EPA and DVOA, whatever,
it is the one that you like.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Sam Donald is neck and neck with your favorite guy.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Yeah, let me just see if this has moved. It
looks like it's three and a half some places. Okay,
So I have the under in Steelers Bengals Thursday Night. Listen, man,
if you've got any life, Thursday night is the night
to do it. I mean, this game is total crap.
So I got thirty two and I got under forty three.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
I'm sorry, under forty three. It looks like it's forty
two and a half.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
I mean the Bengals, I don't know how Joe so
is Joe flackover Sarah Rodgers. Two forty year old guys
slugging it out. I just don't see a ton of
offense here. And by the way, the last couple of
Thursday Night games have been kind of clunky, slow, ugly plotting.
I think we'll probably see the same here in a
divisional matchup. Yeah, I'll agree with you with that one.
Absolutely London game, Rams Jags. I've noticed these London games
(30:41):
this year have been very low scoring. Huka Nakua sounds
like he's not going to play because they have the
buye after that, so they will give Puka two weeks off. Folks,
I've seen the Rams offense up close just now with
the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
It's not good. I don't know what's going on with
the Rams.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Well, maybe it's offensive line Kyrin Williams, but like, I
don't like. I don't think they open a can here
on the Jags in London heading into the by and
also the Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
How does Trevor Lawrence get hit seventeen times? Did you
see that seventeen quarterback hits by Seattle? Well, the Rams
are going to murder him too, you know. So I
see this being like thirteen ten whatever I got under
forty four and a half it is, we went up
to forty five, so well forty four and a half
some other places. So I'm an idiot. I have the
(31:29):
Detroit Lions minus four against Tampa Bay Rob.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Waker Mayfield. I'm fading him again like an ass.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
No, Brian Branch, you'll be suspended for that fracas with
Juju Smith Schuster.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
I mean, I can't bet against Baker anymore. Why is
Detroit even favorite?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Then?
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Why are they at home?
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Destroits at home?
Speaker 4 (31:55):
That's the only reason, because there's nothing that would lead
you to believe that the the way that Baker and
that Bucks offense is rolling, no matter who's out there.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
By the way, no matter who's out there, Abuka Hamstring
sounds like he's a no go. Mike Evans may return,
god Win out again, Bucky Irving TVD.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Bucky's supposed to be out. They already said hes supposed
to be out again. Bucky out again? Yeah, oh my god,
my fantasy team struggle bus. Uh so, I don't know.
I'm on Lions minus four, and currently the line is
is this a Monday game? Oh, there's two Monday games?
Oh it lines up to five.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Off shore, I could see two and a half, maybe
even three, but four and five I think.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
People just the numbers for Tampa don't add up. But again,
people don't want to hear that. They're just like you're
an as clown. And finally, this was a big one
Cleveland Browns minus two against the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
He's ready to bury Mike McDaniel in two. Aren't you No.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
I mean, I just this is in Cleveland and at home,
the Browns defense has basically bottled up everyone it's faced.
At home, they're unbelievable. It seems like they're healthy. I
haven't seen an injury report. I don't doubt Dylan Gabriel,
you know, has a chance here. The Browns, by the way,
like they're just a totally different.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Team at home than they are on the road.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
And I don't I haven't checked the weather yet, but
I'm guessing it's going to be fine in Cleveland in
the middle of October. Miami seems kind of like a
dead team walking and without Tyreek kill that other than
Devin eh Chan breaking off that long run and they're
tight end Waller.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
I know.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
I just nobody on Miami scares me. I think the
Browns kind of lock them down. This feels like sixteen
to nine or something. I ow went Browns minus two.
So anyways, yeah, I gambling. I go four and one
in the contest one week and I'm a gambling fool.
All right. Major League Baseball Rob, what was your nervous
level watching the Dodgers bullpen piss away a Blake Snell
(33:52):
gem He went eight innings, one hit allowed, ten K's.
I mean, he had one of the great performances we've
seen this play postseason, maybe the best one. Right.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Oh, he was incredible. Like I saw a stat that
he was the first MLB pitcher to face the minimum,
which is, you know, he had to give up a hit,
but he got doup play out of it through eight
innings of postseason game since Don Larson in nineteen fifty six.
Like he was that good on Monday Night for the Dodgers.
And to say I was nervous, I can't say that
(34:23):
because I expected it. Like you don't get nervous when
you're expecting them to blow it. It's like, oh, well,
here it goes again. This is gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Now.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
I didn't expect it was going to be Roki Sasaki
to be the one to blow and I thought he
was going to be their ace in the hole. And
for trying of all guys to come in and slam
door was kind of shocking to me. But yeah, I mean,
Blake Snail's a monster. And if the if the Dodgers
bats ever come alive, like they should sleepwalk their way
to another championship.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Yeah, let me ask what's going on?
Speaker 3 (34:51):
What's going on with though Tony oh for two walk
three times, batting one thirty eight in the postseason?
Speaker 2 (34:57):
What's you mean Baseball's James Harden? How you're talking about? Oh,
you did not call it.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
Otani has been so bad the last two playoffs Jets hardened.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Now last year the slander.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Oh, last year he was covered because he had was
at the shoulder issue right, like it kind of popped
out when he was sliding, I think is what happened.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
But he has just been brutal at the plate and
like he hold on. Last year he batted two thirty
this year one eight.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Oh boy, maybe maybe you wrong. I thought the Jags
Harden was two harsh. But Dave, he's just ding.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
But baseball is one of those weird things where all
the numbers say that he is playing badly, right, like
you look at objectively, he's not.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
He's not hitting the ball.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
And he gets three walks, he gets intentional, he walks
a couple of times right to set up a Mookie
Betts who walks in the basically on the winning run.
And just because his name is shoey Otani and because
he was so good thro one hundred and sixty two games.
Teams don't care that he's James Harden in the playoffs.
The reputation alone is getting him free passes, and so
(36:05):
that's kind of weird the way that works out in baseball.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
You're way more plugged in on this than I am.
But that the whole Dave Roberts pulling Snell, was that
an analytics play or was it.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Like just coaches, gut hey, we got to shoot him.
He was great. I don't I have no idea.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Well, Dave Roberts is notorious for pulling his guys earlier
than he should. I honestly was surprised. He went out
for the eighth inning and he went in and slammed
the door. So that was great, And I was not
surprised that all they pulled him for the ninth because
Sasaki has been nails in this playoff so far, Like
he's been a revelation for him. He went from being,
(36:41):
you know, a part of their opening day rotation, like
with a big free agent acquisition, fell off immediately because
he was terrible. Then he got hur they got optioned
down to minors, and then he came back at the
end of the season and suddenly became one of the
best closers or relief pitchers in all of baseball in
this postseason.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
So if you say, hey, he.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
Gave us eight innings of incredible baseball bringing this other kid, one, two, three,
let's get out of here. We're good to go, and
it didn't work out that way.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
I haven't seen any great quotes from Roberts on this yet.
I do know that Dodgers fans are outraged, like, dude,
what what are you doing? Like it just feels like
now I guess the counter is true, Hey, he was
gassed in the ninth then he gives you know, they
lose the game, and you blame blame the manager, right,
so you can manager can't really can't win unless you
(37:29):
have an ace in the bullpen, and which you know
he was supposed to be the guy, right sazaki mm hmm,
all right, So, uh, Mariner's two to oh over Blue
Jays looking like a Mariner's Dodgers a West Coast World Series.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Potentially, it's early all right, back tomorrow season
