Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntire.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up, far FAYM. It's me Jason McIntyre, Straight
Bawyer for Friday, October the twenty fourth, and toy. This
has been quite a week in sports. The World Series
begins tonight. Obviously everybody's fired up. Dodgers, Blue Jays. I'll
go with the Dodgers in five. Give the Blue Jays one.

(00:32):
NBA in full swing, NFL a bit of a clunker
last night, got a solid college football weekend. I have
a bunch of college football bets I'll reveal here shortly,
but I just kind of glossed over the NBA. Obviously,
there was a neutron bomb dropped on the league early
Thursday morning, and it's funny. It just funnily happened on

(00:54):
day two of the season, essentially right after Wemby had
a unbelievable performance. That sho have been the biggest story
in sports, but it was kind of overshadowed by some
litigious stuff. We'll dig into it. We have a guest
coming on the show, Jared Smith. He hosts a Fox
Sports radio show on weekends and he is based in Vegas.

(01:17):
I think you guys will enjoy Jared and I's conversation.
We're not dubious. I mean, I'm not gonna give you
the full story here. By now, if you're a sports
fan and you're listening to this, you are aware Chauncey
Billups was arrested linked to some shady poker games with

(01:40):
the mafia and a bunch of illegal activity at the
poker games where they were basically cheating people out of money.
Just how involved Billups was is the question. Obviously he
played in the poker games, that's you know, pretty well chronicled.
The question is, was Chauncey Billups recruit people to come

(02:00):
to the game knowing that the other people were cheating?
Theoretically you assume Billups would get a cut in that way,
shape or form. Or was Billips, you know, a gambler
and he was down bad? Who knows? Why was he
doing this? What was his level of commitment to this
poker game? So anyways, he was arrested and released. And then,

(02:23):
of course the other one is scary Terry Rosier, the
NBA player who was alleged to have faked an injury,
told people he was going to take himself out. They
bet his unders, They all cashed, the NBA investigated it,
Scary Terry met with the FBI multiple times over the

(02:45):
last few years, nothing came of it, and then all
of a sudden, boom arrested and it's like, huh okay, well, anyways,
that's basically the ten thousand foot view of the story.
I'll just I'll leave you with a say before we
get to the interview, is that anyone can indict a
ham sandwich, Right, It's a well known saying that it's

(03:11):
easy to indict someone, it's much tougher to actually, you know,
convict them. And I'm not a lawyer, just I'm not
defending anybody. I'm just saying it's this is.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Far from over.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Let's just leave it at that.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Now.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
The third level was the Damon Jones, who was an
assistant coach and is alleged to have told people, Hey,
the Lakers arresting player X, load up on the opposite
side the Bucks, and the Bucks ended up winning handily.
Player X just happened to be Lebron. There was zero

(03:50):
evidence Lebron was connected to this in any way, shape
or form, even though Damon Jones was his teammate. Lebron,
by the way, is worth I don't know, north of
five hundred million dollar. H The idea that he would
be involved is not even worthy of discussion. I don't know.
This is like, it's a tricky situation. And as I

(04:12):
was reminded many times by let's just say people, we're
in a sue happy litigious society and podcasters have been
sued in recent years. Bloggers have been sued. TV personalities
have been sued because you said this about me, and
that's not true and it was proven not true in court. Okay,

(04:34):
that stuff's actually happening. You've got a bunch of losers
out there who have don't want to work, and they say, oh,
this guy said this about me, I want to assume,
and so that's happening now, and nobody wants to.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Be part of that crap.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
So we're just gonna.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
I'll I you could.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
You should be able to tell by the tone where
I'm leaning on this, I'm very much I need to
wait and see on this. I again, I find it,
you know. Chauncey Phillips has a lawyer released the statement
he he's not jeopardizing his Hall of Fame career, everything
he's worked for for the last thirty years over a
card game like that's stupid, and it'll come out in court.

(05:09):
Obviously they're going to defend staunchly, defend themselves. I'm not
gonna make this political.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I know the investigation started several years ago, before the
current FBI regime was in place. Just just just be
patient on this, Okay, guys, let's just be patient. Is
it possible something happened?

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Of course.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Is it also possible that, you know, some guys got
nailed on something else and they're looking to roll over
and just give names to say to try to save face.
Whether that stuff is true or not, that's entirely possible.
It's early. It's fun to speculate. But yeah, I'll let
the interview with Jared speak for itself, all right, Without
further ado, let's get to today's guest, Jared Smith, Fox

(05:55):
sports Radio host.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports to talk lineup

think he knows everything when it comes to sports.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
I know what sports dance wants, but for everything.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
He doesn't, he knows a guy who does.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Let's just say, I know a guy who knows a
guy who knows another guy. All right, let's welcome in, too,
straight fire, a guy who you can't wait to talk
about this gambling drama in the NBA. Jared Smith, Fox
sports radio host, longtime gambler. He's on ground zero in Vegas. Jared,
how you doing, man?

Speaker 3 (06:41):
I'm good. It's definitely been a busy day, busy week.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
You know.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
I feel like we a lot of this news. We've
been kind of waiting to get the end result and
it finally came to a head today. But yet it's
been a busy day.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Jamais very very interesting timing.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
I'll just leave it at that. Interesting timing.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
You have.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
This popped the day after the NBA begins, and I mean,
I thought we were gonna be celebrating Wemby. Wemby was phenomenal.
I thought I was like, oh my gosh, this is
like Otani level. And then you wake up and you're like, oh,
an NBA head coach has been hosting poker games that
are with some nefarious individuals, shall we say. And then
of course there's the Terry Rogier story, which is dragged on.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
I don't know which.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I think they were disconnected. The two were separate, Jared,
but then they as people dig in more, they're now like, oh,
Billups may be linked to the gambling stuff. Where do
you want to start. What do you find more interesting
Billups or Rogier?

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Well, I mean again, and it is obviously an open investigation.
So there's a lot of things that I'm still that
need to be worked out. And you know, no one's
been found guilty of anything. But based on how I
read the indictment, there is a someone you know, call
him co Conspirator eight, that tipped off the mob that
the Blazers weren't going to be playing their starters on

(07:57):
a particular night. And then they describe co Conspirator eight
as a resident of Oregon an NBA player from nineteen
ninety seven through twenty fourteen. So again you can kind
of connect the dots on who that co Conspirator eight is.
But that person is very interesting to me because that
is right like in all the President's men, deep throat
the source, like that person is giving out information that

(08:21):
is not publicly available that the sportsbooks don't know about.
That can obviously impact the market. So I don't know
who that person is. I'm assuming it is Chauncey Villas
just based on the description, but there is no actual
you know, he wasn't named in the sports betting side
of the case.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
The poker side of the case.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
I'm not involved in the poker world as much, but
you know, there's a lot of people that I've seen
that have had Reddit posts and podcasts from years ago
where Billips was involved in this kind of let's call
it nefarious behavior with nefarious characters.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
So that doesn't surprise me as much.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
The sports betting thing is concerning because you're talking about
the integrity of the bets that are made, and that
is where I think the league has the biggest problem.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yeah, so the billet stuff is interesting.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
I looked it up.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
He made I believe, one hundred and thirty five million,
hundred and seven somewhere in there in his NBA career.
Now he's coaching. This struck me as a little bit
odd that a guy who made over one hundred million
and yes, you know, you take out taxes and the
agent and stuff, fine forty mili okay, over the course
of his career and he's coaching getting paid and I
believe he was in the media at ESPN briefly, I think,

(09:29):
and this guy is now all of a sudden like
luring people allegedly into a poker game run by the
mob so they could get cleaned out and he would
what get a commission. I some of this struck me
as just that sounds odd, But I don't know Chauncy
Billets at all, and he has had some checkered stuff
in his past allegations, of course, but this whole like

(09:50):
he tipped off people about sitting starters. Did you go
back and look at the box scores bydy Chest because
I did.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
They didn't play in that Like the game that was
in question was a game where that information was highly
valuable information. And that's again the important part to definitely
note here is that it like I saw the Damon
Jones part of the indictment as well, where he's basically
telling people to bet on the bucks one night because

(10:19):
Lebron potentially is going to be sitting. That is not
as damaging to me, because it's just, you know, we
see teams play and overcome that all the time. It's
not a direct correlation it's really the player props that
they're having the biggest issue with j Max. So I
think there's definitely a regulation that needs to be added

(10:40):
to betting on player props, whether it's limiting the amount
that you can bet on a particular prop, or just
limiting which side of the market you can bet on
based off of how big of a player you are,
Like they maybe shouldn't let lower tier players like the
Jontay Porter stuff have player props for him listed. So
I'd definitely think there is a step of regulation that

(11:02):
needs to be had in the player prop department. But
I am not of the belief that we should be
eliminating gambling or player props entirely because of this particular incident.
That's like the same logic as saying every time someone
gets a DUI, let's get rid of alcohol, Like, it
just doesn't make sense from a logic perspective based on
the country we live in. So I think there's conversations
to be had about regulation, but I don't think we

(11:22):
need to overstep.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah, how about this this idea that two hundred k
was lost on player props? I mean, you're in Vegas.
I don't move numbers I'm not betting thirty thousand on
a you know, an April player prop. But here's the thing, Jared,
you know this. You can't get down thirty thousand or
twenty five thousand dollars on a player prop in a
regular season game, at least none that.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
I'm aware of.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
And I text texted a lot of gamblers who I
know who are in some syndicates. They're like, you can't.
You can't bet twenty five thousand dollars on a player prop.
You can't do that tonight, Like I don't, So I'm
not understanding. Even if you had ten accounts to get
down two hundred thousand, something feels a little off there.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
That's where the racket part of it, right, the syndicate
part of it comes in. Where you're right, you probably
can get down a grand on a prop if you're lucky,
which means you need to have multiple people. You know,
they call them runners or beards, right, like you can
send people in to bet for you. But again, when
you expand, and that's why to your original point about

(12:19):
Billups making all this money, why is he caring about this?
Because when you start to filter it down, all right,
you have all these people in this operation and you
can only get down x amount and you have to
pay everyone out. The amount that you're going to actually
make hard cash from this is not even close to
what you can make from an NBA coach or player salary.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
That's why I've always.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
Been against the games are rigged theory because it's just,
you know, especially at the professional level, like these guys
make so much money, Like why would they risk it?
Because eventually right word filters out, your group gets big enough,
and you're gonna get caught. And if you continue to
make the same pattern of bets, there are you know,
roadblocks in place for you to get caught. In fact,
I would say I would argueation in general, like people

(13:01):
are like, oh, we need to you know, you know,
criminalized gambling again, gambling, legalized gambling as the costers. No,
actually legalized gambling is the reason why we caught them.
So it just it's it's kind of a weird argument
when people see this and they want to push back
on the act itself and not the person committing the act.
And that's where I try to be a voice of
reason at times.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
And I'm not defending Billups. I'm not saying he's the
guy who you should go to jail for this. But
I just looked up a salary. He's around five million dollars.
You know, these alleged poker games that where he was
he was bringing guys in and they would get cleaned out.
What do you I mean he would have to be
making Hey, we'll give you a million dollars off the

(13:41):
books every single time you organize a poke, Like you're
not doing that for fifty thousand dollars unless Billups is
just a moron and it's just like, yeah, I want
all the money. I'm greedy as hell. Like there's just
a lot of stuff that's not totally adding up. I
know the Blazers suspended him. It just feels strange. I mean,
Chelsey Billets, he's like he was a good player, you know,
he seems like a good coach. He sounds intelligent. This

(14:04):
something seems off here and the idea that he's like, yeah,
we got the win in I think it was April
of twenty three. They had lost six in a row.
They were obviously garbage and they get to win and
that was Dame Lillard played. After that, they just shut
down their starters. They didn't want to lose like twenty
games in road end of the season, right, So like
the idea that he's out there, Hey, you should bet
we're gonna bench all our guys, Like you could have

(14:26):
known that just watching that they ain't playing their right
Like you know when teams are starting the tank load right.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Absolutely, And I always say this to me, tanking isn't
done Like I say this through the frame of the NFL,
Like tanking's not done on Sundays.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
It's done during the week.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
The decisions that are made by the personnel people, Hey
we're going to give this guy a shot at starting linebacker.
We're going to give this guy a shot at starting quarterback.
The meeting rooms, the way that the teams are coached,
that's when tanking's done. Because all of these players, when
they when the game starts right and then the lights
turn on, they're playing for a job. So it's really
hard to argue unless you have a Terry Rozier situation

(15:04):
where he's intentionally Deontay Porter, intentionally not getting to a
certain point based off of some kind of money that's involved.
If a team is tanking for a roster spot or
a draft pick, it's happening during the week, It's not
happening on game days. So yeah, yeah, like the billup stuff,
I think we're gonna get a lot more like this
is the tip of the Iceberg jam, but we're gonna
get a lot more information on him. I think what

(15:25):
happens too is a lot of these guys just get
into trouble with the wrong people, and they love to
gamble their competitors, and they get into some trouble and
then they instead of paying the bookie, instead of paying
the mob back, they just work and they Hey, i'll earn,
I'll do this, I'll do that. I think there is
a case where some of these guys do get in
trouble in that way, and that can be a cause

(15:48):
for some of this, you know, nefarious behavior.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
So let's pivot to Terry Rozier. His is a little
more interesting to me because a the NBA investigated him,
be his lawyer came out and put out a strong
statement to podcast Pablo Torri, who is really all up
in this, that Hey, Terry spoke to the FBI in
twenty twenty three. Multiple times, the NBA's looked into this,

(16:12):
the FBI's looked into this.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
He didn't do anything.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
That's what his lawyers saying. And it is weird because
the NBA cleared Rogier here in the last what six months,
Something feels again off here, Jared, do you does this
pass the smell test for you? Because are they using
Rosier's name and the fact that he's like an actual
NBA player to you know, make a story here where

(16:35):
maybe there isn't one, or they trying to embarrass the NBA.
I don't know what's going on.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Possible.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
I think the more likely scenario is the NBA couldn't
really get the hard evidence, or maybe they caught a
sniff of some of the hard evidence and they just
didn't want to go down that road, because this is again,
very damning for the NBA if all of this is true. Again,
the indictments are posted on the DOJ's website.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
I'm reading.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
I'm looking through them right now, like you can go
through them right now, and you can read every line
of it.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
I'm sure you've heard the line, Jared, you can indict
a ham sandwich one hundred's famous, absolutely.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
Can sue anyone. And I think that weekend. I don't
want to jump to any conclusions about any of this
being true, but some of it is just like almost
too insane not to be true. Like they're celebrating x
amount of money on Rosier's you know, on on on
his you know, in his house after the game, and again,
I I don't know why they would put that in

(17:32):
the indictment.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Unless it wasn't true. That's pretty hard evidence.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
So that to me is like, Okay, yeah, no, there,
there's definitely something there, and I think there was something
there before. It's just maybe maybe the the corruptions always listen.
This isn't the first go around that the NBA has
been through this before, so there's always been things. And
the more you uncover, right, the more threads you pull on.
That's when at all. Right, Like, I think the connection

(17:56):
of it too is the scary part. The fact that
Phillips and Rosier and Damon and Johntay Porter, the fact
that they all have these weird dotted lines from these
same again nefarious characters in these mafia organizations, and they're
all kind of connected in some weird way.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Yeah, that's the part of it that gives it a
little more of validity.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Because that's how groups work, right, They group it all
together and they try to figure out a way to
keep it all in house, so there's not all of
these people out there with all of this information. So
the fact that it is all kind of weaved together,
with all of these people working together to try to
scam not only with poker but also with sports betting.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
To me, it does give it a little bit more
starch interesting. So this whole integrity of the league. A
lot of people, Oh, the NBA is ruined. You can't
believe anything. I mean, Jared, there's like four hundred and
fifty players, right, we have what like maybe five guys
who have been tied up in some stuff. We'll see
what happens. I don't like this idea that, oh, the

(18:52):
league is ruined. You know, the whole baseball with gambling,
way back with the Black Socks, the way back in
doing nineteen nineteen or whatever it was. And then you
had Otani's interpreter every Sunday, you know, betting football. Hey man,
the referees, oh, they're on the take. You know, this
is just this feels like normal kind of sort of.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
No, Well, this particular situation is is is an extraordinary
you know rabbit hole. For sure, There's no way that
this is what is taking place throughout the league on
a nightly basis. It's just it's just not And again,
I think at the professional level, you really can throw
it out the window. Like NFL's been hit with a

(19:32):
couple of minor things. Right at Calvin Ridley, I think
betting on basketball at the team facility like that. Again,
like that kind of stuff is just the housekeeping of
learning how to deal with regulated gambling. In the professional
sports world. We have not had any incident rise to
this level where you have players leaking or coaches leaking
information that certain people will be out to gain an

(19:53):
advantage on the books. Even the Emmanuel class A stuff
right in baseball that is so isolated because those are
micro bets that you can only get down.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
X amount on.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Wait, I don't even know who that is.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Oh, Emmanuel class A is the Guardian's pitcher.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
I think there was another one who was telling his family,
I think, and again this is all none of this
is one hundred percent confirm, but telling his family so
you can bet. You can make a micro bet on
whether the first pitch of an inning will.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Be a ball or a strike.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Oh geez, And the pitcher has so much control over that,
and it doesn't even really impact the outcome of the
game at all, Like if it's one to zero top
of the first inning, like who cares, It's literally no
impact on the game. So those are the types of
bets that I think we need to regulate. But the
fact that people think this is happening widespread on a
nightly basis and every time a call goes against your

(20:45):
particular wager, you think it's rigged. Yeah, it's just it's
completely asinine. It's just it's not the right way to
look at this situation. I think there's a lot of
incompetence that's involved on a nightly basis with the referees
and with the way they officiate the games, but that
doesn't mean that there's practice. So I think this is
not happening widespread. This is an isolated incident. Certain athletes

(21:07):
they make so much money it just is not in
their best interest to even pursue this kind of, you know, activity,
And I think for the most part, it's just bad
officiating most nights that people get upset about.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
Now, as a gambler, is this, Jared, all this stuff
going to give you any pause whatsoever in betting on
the NBA.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
No, I don't bet the NBAT period at all.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
Yeah, very rarely. Usually later in the year. I'm very
focused on football. During football season, I try to keep
my I try to keep my eye on the ball
because I'm just you know, I get asked on so
many more football shows and I do so much more
football content that basketball doesn't become a big thing until
later on in the year for me. But I will
not hesitate at all. And especially when you're getting close
to the playoffs. You notice the one thing about all

(21:47):
these games, like none of them are playoff games, none
of them are high profile games. They're all games where
teams are tanking or teams are missing stars. So it's like,
again like I think the the high leverage games j MAC,
like none of those are ever really impacted by this.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
This is all lower level stuff.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
We see this a lot in college basketball at like
the three level, Like I see a lot of this
at the lower levels of sports, where it's harder to
get down on the games, but there they fly under
the radar more, which also makes it more unique because
then if there's a large amount of money that gets
placed on some random D two game, it raises the
red flags of the integrity organizations that monitor this. But

(22:23):
if we're talking about hey, it's the playoffs, I want
to bet Lebron over under points. Like I'm not gonna
think twice about any of this when I fire off
those wagers.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (22:44):
We could wrap up with this Jared NFL Week eight.
You know, I listen, I'm doing the contest. It's spinning
my wheels. Eighteen and seventeen. Fortunately nobody, I mean, the
public is getting slaughtered this year. They're doing horribly. I
think they were like thirty nine percent in the contest
or something. I am just curious, just do any games

(23:05):
jump out at you because this week kind of sort
of sucks, right six teams on a buy. You had
the Thursday night game, the Monday night games of double
digit's bread, you got Colts Titans is I think minus
fifteen right now? It just feels like there aren't many
great games to bet this week. Do you have anything
that you jumps out and teasers aren't allowed, just for
the record, if.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
You can get the well teasers. I really like the
Falcons to Eagles teaser. I think Philly, you know, revenge
spot for them. You have to face the same team
twice in two and a half weeks. I think that's
a really good and Giants coming off that. I like
teams that are coming back from difficult travel situations or
fading these teams like we're gonna get Houston or excuse me,
Jacksonville in a little bit, They're gonna come to Vegas,

(23:45):
and I love fading teams the week after they come
to Vegas. I love fading teams the week after they
go to Denver. And that game was nuts last week
for the Giants. So I think you can put the
Eagles in a teaser feel pretty good even without aj Brown,
and then the Falcons. I mean, the Dolphins look like
the worst team in the NFL right now, maybe Tennessee
and New York. So I think Atlanta coming off their
loss to San Francisco, right I like zig zagging anytime

(24:07):
a team's coming off of ats loss or just a
loss in general. I like betting on them when they're
facing a team. If it's it'd be more helpful if
they were coming off of a win or a cover,
like the Giants are in the Philly case. But in
the Dolphins case, I think we just fade him. The
Broncos are in that situation, right, Dallas off a really
good win against Washington. Broncos had that crazy win where

(24:29):
they were fortunate to just win the game they didn't cover.
Now you get a little bit of a shorter line
this week against Denver. I got three with the Broncos
laying a field goal, So decent bet too.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
Yeah, I would. I would play Denver this week. I
don't like Dallas defense at all.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
No, no, no, I don't even think Dallas likes thirty.
Let me ask you. I did just have to look
this up. So aj Brown didn't practice Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
I was waiting.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
I was like, oh, maybe he's getting a veteran wrestling
He didn't practice Thursday, and I concerning, I do wonder.
I mean, the Giant secondary's trash, we know that, but no,
what he out there scares you? And could they could
they just play up? Hey we're double dog. Dare you
Devonte Smith to go beat us?

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Deep?

Speaker 2 (25:08):
I just the Eagles kind of scared me. And I'm
gonna be honest. The Falcons. I've liked them a lot
all season. This spot scares me. We may take them
and survivor, and I'm just like, oh my gosh, I
don't know if I can stomach the Falcons because you
know they're always due for a stinker. Bro and Michael Pennocks,
by the way, are limited in practice. The Kirk Cousins
experience last year. I mean, I think he led the

(25:29):
league and pick sixes. I'm not poking holes at your best.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
I'm just saying, like, I like nothing this week. Yeah,
it's I'll be I agree, it is a tough week.
I don't have as many like I think the tea.
I think the Falcons get home. I'm i to me
in Miami is on the verge.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
But yeah, the.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Penis injury certainly scares me. I think the Patriots. So
the Browns have had this weird.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Thing where their defense sucks on the road.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
They're allowing like eighty percent of their road opponents over
the last two years to go over their team total.
So so if you think New England's offense is legit
and you think Cleveland's defense doesn't travel as well, that
should be a really good crowd this week.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Right. The Patriots have been on the road for the
last couple weeks.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
Now they come back home and there they look like
a I don't wanna say super Bowl contender, but they
definitely look like they're at least in contention for a
playoff spot, maybe even the division. So I think that'll
be a good crowd in New England at Foxboro on Sunday.
And you can get twenty three and a half. So
you get over twenty three and a half on the
Patriots team, totally get to twenty four, you win.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
I feel like that's a that's a decent bet.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
I do.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
I mean, again, this is nitpicking, but like Drake May
every week is in the freaking blue medical tent. I
just I can't stand that. It terrifies me because he's
really good. Last one is the Texans Niners. Texans taking
money on Thursday. I like him, but I'm I'm worried
about Nico Collins. I hate betting against the Niners, but
I just think this is a matchup nightmare by far,

(26:49):
the best defense Mac Jones will have faced with the Texans,
and they're coming off, like you said, off an embarrassing
loss where they look horrible. But again, Nico collins with
the concussion. If he's not there, that's already a crap
offense with rookie receivers. I don't.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
I agree.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
I think Houston shuts down McCaffrey, which is the way
you shut down the Niners these days, right, like Atlanta
did not shut down McCaffrey last week. I think Houston
will do a better job of that. The market's kind
of telling you about Houston there, right. San Francisco's record
looks good, they've kind of strung together some wins, and
Houston's look terrible, especially on Monday. But the Texans again

(27:25):
still favored and the number moving in their direction. So
it's kind of your indicator that Houston maybe is a
little bit better than their record, and maybe their recent
play indicated.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
But I agree with you, Niko is a big injury.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
If he's not gonna play. This is not a bad week, Jared,
As you know the phrase to keep the powder dry,
save it for next week.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
I know it's tough.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I know, I know it's difficult. Maybe go to a
Halloween party, interact with humans, right, touch some grass, as
they said, such grass as my kid. Yes, yes, yes,
all right, Jared Smith, Fox Sports Radio, Saturdays, nine am
to twelve pm Eastern. Keep up the good work man,
thanks a lot.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
JAYMC.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
The only thing better than sitting on your couch watching
the game. He's making money while you do it. Here's
your best bat.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
All right, good stuff from Jared. Let's quickly chat about
the Chargers thirty seven to Romp. My gosh, that game
was terrible. Chargers basically went up and down the field
in the first half, did not punt I believe until
the fourth quarter, or maybe they didn't punt at all.
I gotta quickly check that, but essentially Chargers offense looked

(28:35):
way better than it did in the first half against
the Colts, when I believe they had three points. M Yeah,
the Chargers. No, the Chargers did not punt at all
the entire game. They were on an offensive juggernaut. It
was more like the Vikings didn't want to be there.
Vikings activated Aaron Jones, they had Jordan Mason. The Vikings

(28:58):
run game eleven carries thirty four yarts. Like what you
just watched. Jonathan Taylor cook the hell out of them
Devon a Chan a couple of weeks ago win nuts.
Why couldn't you do anything this? This is a pathetic
performance from the three and four Vikings. Afterward, Kevin O'Connor
was like, listen, if JJ McCarthy's healthy, he'll start. Carson
Wentz was abysmal, sacked five times. Minnesota is in a
bad place right now. And here's the scary part. The

(29:22):
Minnesota Vikings at three and four have wins over Caleb
Williams and the opener, which kind of was a luckbox win.
Late they beat Jake Browning forty eight ten, and they
beat in London Dylan Gabriel in his first start. They
have losses to and this is where it gets really scary,
the Falcons at home and Michael Pennix Aaron Rodgers twenty

(29:46):
four to twenty one in a bad game in London.
Then they what is Eagles? Yeah, they lost to the
Eagles tough last week, and then they got thumped by
the Chargers next yup, it gets hard at the Detroit Lions. Now.
JJ McCarthy should be back for that, but they gotta
need it. Then they face Lebar Jackson on November ninth.

(30:11):
Those two games back to back. If they lose both those,
they'll be underdogs. They're looking at three and six. They
still have games at Green Bay, probably a loss, at Seattle,
probably a loss. They have to go to Dallas, and
then they have the Detroit Lions and Grebata end the season. Folks,
that's easily six more losses. So now you're looking at
seven and ten. I think it's safe to say that
the Minnesota Vikings will not be going to the playoffs.

(30:33):
And I know I'm eliminating teams early. Washington, they're done. Minnesota,
I think they're done. Just not. It's just been a
wacky start to the season. NFC's very challenging, and you
know the Carson Wentz experience is over. Now let's quickly
look at this week eight schedule, and I touched on
it with Jerrard during the interview. If you skipped over

(30:54):
the interview, well that's your loss. I just I don't
like the card. So are we only have thirteen games
because there's six teams? Don't buy one game's down soon?
Now down to twelve. I don't know that Chiefs Washington
at minus twelve and a half is bettable. Could Mariota
come in the back door? Down you know, down seventeen.

(31:15):
If it's thirty four to seventeen late and Mariotas gets
a garbage time touchdown, you lose. I just I'm not
certain that I want to get involved in that game.
So now you're down to eleven games. Do you want
to bet the Colts Titans? I actually, guys, I'm really
close to pulling the trigger on the Colts. That's how
weak this card is. So now you're down to ten.

(31:36):
If you don't want that, you don't want to bet
a fifteen point favorite at home games that I have
bet now this week, they're I really like the egos
a lot, but aj Brown not practicing on Wednesday or
Thursday just has me super nervous. I do have several
teasers at play this is listen. As I said at

(31:58):
the end of the interview with Jared, you don't have
to bet at every freaking game, guys. There is nothing
that says you must fire if you want to take
a breather. And I got a cut bunch of college bets.
I'll just rattle those off here shortly. But if you
want to take a breather, you can't. You don't have
to go out and fire on all the games now.
Of course, it's fun when you do NFL bets. I
have Atlanta Falcons minus seven, minus one to twenty. Pennix

(32:21):
sounds like he's gonna be a go, but he's not
one hundred percent. Miami is in trouble. Did you see
Darren Waller, who's been like an actual weapon for them?
Is he's going to be down and probably out for
the rest of the season. On IR. The worry, of course,
is that eh Han breaks loose, Jalen Waddle catches a
slant and goes the distance like there's a world where

(32:43):
Miami on a fast track is able to generate some offense.
Two finds his footing. I don't. I think this is
probably going to go down. There'll be some money on Miami.
So the smart way to bet it is the Falcons
and a teaser take them down to one or one
and a half, right, I think the Buffalo Bills, who
could be susceptible to the Cuba Hubbard Rico Dowdles show,

(33:05):
I think it's smart to take the Buffalo Bills from
seven down to win by one. So that's a teaser
Falcons Bills. I firmly believe the Baltimore Ravens. It sounds
like Lamar's probably gonna go. You tease them down against
the Bears. I think with Lamar and reinforcements on defense,
I think they'll be okay. I think the New England

(33:28):
Patriots should be okay at home. Tease down again to
cover with a touchdown against Dylan Gabriel. I mean, the
New England Patriots a seven point favorite over anyone. Now.
I do think Vrabel against the rookie quarterback probably is
a big edge for the Patriots. It's laying a big
number with Drake May. It's a bit of a tough

(33:49):
sell if you ask me. That being said, I think,
for sure, tease them down and you're in good shape.
So the Eagles are the big one because of the
AJ Brown injury. I mean, in Survi, I'm talking to
my buddy and we've got we've got to make a pick.
It's kind of between Atlanta and the Eagles, and Atlanta
scares the bejeebis out of everybody, and so it's like, okay,

(34:09):
do we just go Eagles anyway? And I'm gonna go.
I'll be so pissed if Jackson dart ends my survivor's season.
I mean, there's legit money on the line here. There's
no way I can take the Bengals. I think, if anything,
you probably bet the New York Jets straight up in
that one, right right? I mean, how on Earth is
Joe Flacco and the Bengals a six and a half

(34:32):
point favorite. Just so what if they beat the Steelers.
I mean, there's a team that can't stop anybody. They
got one of the worst defenses in the league. Offensive
line's terrible. Now Sauce Gardner may not go. I mean,
it's a wacky weekend. I did bet the Bucks minus four,
but even they have a slew of injuries. I don't
know who's playing for him, Bucky irving A. He's on
my fantasy team and I see him out every freaking week.

(34:52):
So this is a tough one. I think Dallas is
probably at three and a half, one of the better bets.
You know, Denver plays a lot of man defense, and
I think Lamb and Pickens should should be okay against them.
I think the Denver beat defense is a little overrated,
to be honest, the data. The problem is the Dallas
defense is just buns and bo Nicks could find his

(35:15):
footing and instantly they run away with it. I so
I like Tampa favor by four on the road. I
like Dallas getting three and a half on the road.
I have nothing on Packers Steelers. If you ask me,
I'd have to take Packers. But they've been a letdown
the last couple of weeks. The Houston Texans minus one.
I'm now seeing that that's off the board. I would

(35:38):
assume that's either a quarterback related it's not about Nico Collins,
and uh, you know Nico Collins got a concussion. If
you don't have Nico Collins wide.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Receiver, who are you? Who exactly are you throwing to?

Speaker 2 (35:51):
I mean, they got all young guys out there. It's
it's a really tough week. Guys the contest. Oh yeah,
Nico Collins and Christian Kirk trying to figure out that
they're both gonna play. And it's like you yead zoos.
So now you're back in CJ. Stroud really with nobody.
I just it's a it's a brutal week in the NFL.

(36:12):
So college, I'm on Indiana minus twenty five, yes, minus
twenty five against UCLA. I know that's crazy, but I'll
go Indiana Oklahoma minus five and a half. Yes, I
fired on Oklahoma minus five and a half against Ole Miss.

(36:35):
I'm on Iowa State minus three, Arkansas minus one week
Virginia Tech minus five and a half.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Hokies.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
It looks like Kentucky is plus nine mildly interesting, Wake
Forest plus three. A lot of bets. You know, I
I don't mind adding this here. My guy, Adam Chernoff
is you know, he's been on the pod many times.
He created something that's awesome. He's not really promoting it,
so I'll just say it here. But he started a

(37:07):
website where he doesn't charge for his insight and picks,
but he offers like a hey, pay whatever you think
you want to pay, and then you can have access
to my picks. But because you have to pay, he
knows who's signing up. And I actually kind of sort
of like that. So I am in the process of

(37:27):
making one for myself and hopefully it'll be done by
the end of the football season and tinker with it
during basketball and I'll just have it and you know,
you can be like, Hey, I'm Joe Smith. I like
Jason stuff. Jay, here's twenty bucks. I'll read all your picks.
I don't have to ask you and shake you down
in the DMS, and and then I could just get
your picks on the site or Jay, sorry, here's only

(37:51):
here's five bucks. That's all I can do. Bro, you
wanted five bucks? Fine, you know I'm gonna have picks
up there all the time, and so I think I'm
going to be building one of those, and it just
seems like an easier place. Hey, you got my picks
on the herd, you got them on the podcast, you
got me on social This is just a catch all.
So you just know exactly where to go. There's no
question who are you on If you have a busy week,

(38:13):
you're traveling for work, and then all of a sudden
you wake up Saturday morning, Oh what's jmack on? Boom,
You go to the site, You've already paid whatever you
want to pay, and we're good to go. So that's
in the process. I'm not going to be heavily promoting that.
I got enough stuff to promote. I want less social
media people.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
That's the goal.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Less brain rot. As my kids like to say, all right,
have a good weekend.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
See that
