Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What is up Straight Fire, FAYM, It's me Jason McIntyre,
Straight Foyer or Friday, September twenty sixth, Action packed episode.
We are packed today my main man, Brad Powers, college
football gambling superstar, joining the pod and I try to

(00:31):
I mean listen. It's an amazing Saturday of college football games. Alabama, Georgia, Oregon,
Penn State, Notre Dame, Arkansas, sneaky good Iowa could are
they dangerous at Kinnick against Indiana? Ohio State a dangerous
spot traveling to the Northwest. I mean, this is this
is one of those Saturdays where it's like, let me,
let me check the calendar. Can I lock down a

(00:53):
time frame I don't know, twelve straight hours and then
you got to run it back on Sunday. So Brad
Power is breaking down the biggest games. I'll do best
bets for the NFL. I actually recorded. It's fourteen minutes
of gambling. Guys. I don't maybe I have a problem.
I don't know. I'm just kidding. I do not have
a problem. It's fun. I love this. Let's get to

(01:14):
the Seattle Arizona game first before we get to any
of this. So obviously started the week with a winner
Seahawks twenty three twenty. It should not have been that close.
I didn't bet the total. Let's see here it lands
on forty three. Oh bad. So this was twenty to six,

(01:36):
twenty to six Seahawks with what six minutes left in
the game, and it ends twenty three twenty. Because this
is the NFL, this is what happens. Defenses go to
the prevent, teams get lucky and get aggressive. You're like,
where was this from Arizona? For the first I don't know,
fifty minutes of the game. You know, you get this

(01:58):
one handed catch on fourth and three by Michael Wilson,
which was pretty damn spectacular. And then you know, I
don't want to say there's controversy and I'm going to
plead ignorance here. I understand there are new kickoff rules.
It looks different. And I confess, if you came up
to me tomorrow at Starbucks Dunkin Donuts, yeah, I go

(02:20):
to Dunkin Donuts and you said, Jake, can you explain
to me the landing rules, the landing zone? Can you
tell me about it? I could not articulate it. I
don't understand it, and this is I'm sure it's going
to be like a story today because we would have
gone to overtime if not for this landing zone. Nonsense.

(02:42):
The kick wasn't far enough and they get the ball
at the forty, right, I hope I articulated that correctly.
They got the bolt the forty yard line with like
twenty eight second, twenty three sec. Whatever it is. That's
like a gift. Kickers are banging from fifty yards out
like it's nothing. Now, I'm not saying this is, you know,
a cheap win for Seattle. Their kicker had just missed

(03:05):
from He had missed from fifty three. The game winner
was from fifty two. So Myers, who has been up
and down, I had him in fantasy last year. Whatever,
he had just missed a long win that would have
definitely iced the game. So the next time he comes
up and it looked wobbly, I thought it was gonna
go wide, And of course stays true and Seattle gets

(03:27):
the win. But like, this game was way closer than
it had to be. Seattle obviously covers basically every number
out there, and I don't know, like if there's some
sweeping takeaway that olk Kyler Murray stinks. Guys. It's not
the first interception. It appeared to be on him right,
but then it looked also like Marvin Harrison may or

(03:49):
may not have broke off the route early. Then on
the second interception, Marvin Harrison juggles what should have been
an easy catch over the middle of I mean, you
were a top five pick, bro all that shit is
and it's picked off by Seattle, So Harrison out of ruffland.
Then he makes up for it with an unbelievable touchdown
catch in the corner that was just like, holy cow

(04:09):
over Witherspoon, who's one of the best dbs in in
the league. But I do think there'll be some scrutiny
for Kyler Murray. So I don't totally understand it, but
he doesn't run enough for my liking. So he had
one twenty nine yard scoot and you're like, oh my gosh,
why aren't they doing that I don't know five times

(04:31):
a game, and the answers because you don't want to
get him hurt. Fine, whatever, get down, get out of bounce.
So outside of the twenty nine yard run, Kyler had
four carries for twelve yards like your calling card. I mean,
you're five ten probably, which is generous. Your calling card
should be running. So I'm gonna give you his passing
yardage totals, and guys, I'm gonna give you the opponent. Okay,

(04:56):
New Orleans one hundred and sixty three yards, passing Carolina
two hundred and twenty yards, passing San fran one hundred
and fifty nine yards, passing Seattle two hundred yards passing.
What's happening to Kyler Marie? He hasn't eclipped two hundred
and twenty yards passing against and again opening against the

(05:19):
Saints in Carolina. They're two of the worst teams in
the league. And you could say, well, Jay, the strategy
was to run. I don't know, he got sacked five
times against the Saints. He got sacked six times last night,
and now they don't have James Connor and there was
no run game like at some point, like, I don't
know whose idea this is? This a Drew Petsig thing is
this is Jonathan Gannon. We only want him to win
from the pocket because he's way more dangerous, not only

(05:43):
running outside the pocket, but when he's on the move.
Defenses have to adjust, and that's when you can hit
these big plays. They don't have a fifty yard completion
all season. Their longest completion was eighteen yards last night.
That is Now you could argue, well, Jay, Seattle's amazing. Yes, yes, yes,
very true. Seattle's got an awesome defense, but you've got

(06:05):
Harrison and McBride. Harrison was a top five pick. McBride's
a top four tight end in the league. Now. Now,
the loss of Connor clearly hurts, but they had four
yards of offense at home on a short week against Seattle.
I think it's a good win for the Seahawks. I
think their defense is gonna make them very, very dangerous.
If Kenneth Walker could stay healthy, how far can this

(06:30):
team go. I'm gonna just say this, Sam Darnold had
I thought if that Kyler touchdown pass to Harrison was
a catch of the game, I thought the throw of
the game third and six. This was on the drive
they missed the field goal. Donald throws right after Arizona
had scored, so the crowd was all juiced up. Donald
throws a rope to a streaking JSN down the sideline

(06:51):
for thirty six yards, like right into a bucket. I
had a men's league game last night, and it was
one of those, like your teammates streaking down the core
and you throw it to where he's going so it
can just that doesn't even need to dribble and lays
it in and you've got to drop it over a
leaping defender, right, And that was what Donald did, except

(07:11):
it was much further than the length of a basketball court.
Just a tremendous pass by Donald. I thought he had
a good game. He's not making mistakes. I'll double check.
I don't. Oh, actually, I'm sorry. He did have two
interceptions in the Pittsburgh game, but he was cleaning against Arizona,
New Orleans and San fran Listen, I don't know what

(07:34):
the ceiling is for Seattle. I think if they're serious
about making a run in a loaded NFC, they'll probably
probably have to uh make a move on another receiver
because they just nobody other than JSN scares you. And
I think he's a potential number one. I don't know
that he is yet. He's super dangerous. But like Sam,

(07:55):
Donald's throwing to Arroyo, who I don't know who that is.
He made a big night catch down the sideline. AJ
Barner is a tight end. Cooper cup Is, I mean
four catches, twenty six yers, you can't count on him.
I like Bobo, but he got one target. Tory Horton
not familiar with his work, but I think he had
a tuddy last week. Like if they want to make

(08:15):
a run, and you know, san Fran all beat up,
We'll see what happens to the likes of the Lions
and Eagles, whose schedules tough. I think Seattle let's see
when they're bias so they have extra rest before facing Tampa.
And what's interesting about that is Tampa plays the Eagles

(08:37):
this week. The Eagles are one of those physical teams
that you know, they wear you down in the trenches.
Tampa's already beat up in the trenches. Then Seattle has
to go to Jacksonville, they get Houston Washington. So here
are the quarterbacks that that defense faces. Baker Mayfield, Trevor Lawrence,
c J. Stroud, Jayden Daniels, Kyler Murray again, Stafford cam Ward. Yeah,

(09:01):
I mean, I think we need to start talking about
this team as a playoff team. Now they're gonna have
to get the next one from the Niners, and we
don't know what the health of San Fran is gonna
be a Week eight team. They're gonna have to probably
steal one from the Rams. And I think this is
a very dangerous Seattle team. They look to me like
a bet on team. I think I'm four and zero

(09:26):
involving games with Seattle because I had San Fran, I
had Seattle, I had Seattle, and I had Seattle against Arizona.
So I feel like I got a good read on
this squad, and I like McDonald's defensive mind. I don't
know if the bigger story is Seattle's dangerous or why
is Kyler Murray throwing for two hundred yards a game?

(09:46):
Is Marvin Harrison never gonna get it together? I know
the stat line will say six catches, sixty six yards, touchdown,
but I mean the drops continue to plague him, and
the guy's supposed to be a superstar. All right, Without
further ado, let's get to our guest, Brad Powers, college
football gambling expert.

he knows everything when it comes to sports.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
I know what sports fans want.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
But for everything he doesn't. He knows a guy who does.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Let's just say, I know a guy who knows the
guy who knows another guy. All right, let's welcome back
in to straight fire, the foremost authority on college football gambling.
I know he doesn't like when I say that, but
it's true. Brad Powers, he's got a newsletter, he's on.
I mean, Brad, it seems like you're doing podcasts, TV
shows left and right. You just slammed these days.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Huh Yeah, I mean, we do whatever we need to
do to be heard, get the voice heard, but get
out there. But yeah, I'm the I like to diversify
the portfolio when it comes to gambling, when it comes
to media, you name it.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
So this week is a monster week in college football.
It's vastly superior to the NFL week. So we wanted
to have Brad on and hammered through some of these games.
I know you know, you know Rufus Peabody. Oh yeah,
his buddies with Jeff Fly. He's a big time college
football gambler, and he hit a couple of big ones.
I was able to tail them. And apparently the one
he likes this week is it's not a top game,

(11:24):
but Arizona at Iowa State. And I'm like, Arizona on
the road in corn Country. I don't know, is that
game on your radar at all? And are you on Arizona?

Speaker 3 (11:34):
I am not on Arizona. I hear you. I just
need to it's Arizona's first road game. I mean, they've
certainly been improved. They got one common opponent in Kansas State.
Arizona dominated Kansas State much more than a final compared
to what Iowa State did in Week zero. I've seen.
I could tell rufus are a big group. Was definitely
on Arizona because there's been as much movement on Arizona

(11:56):
as any team on the board this week. But it's
always price dependant for me. If you tell me, hey,
I bet Arizona at seven and a half, seven more
power to you. At current I would lean more with
Iowa State at six and a half. So that's seven, yeah,
very key. All right, let's get to the good games.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
I remember you coming on in August and saying you
know Alabama was in the title mix and then they
get stomped by FSU. I'm like, oh jeez, I have
a ticket for Alabama to win the title, but I
am on them this week against Georgia. They just tend
to dominate the Bulldogs. I think it's last like eight
years of Kirby Smarts had his issues with them. I'm

(12:32):
curious who you were on Alabama Georgia.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yeah, how much of an idiot did I look like
right out of the gates there? Oh, Alabama's my pick
to win the title and they lose the first game.
Market likes Alabama this week. I would say that the
sharper the two sides, the fact that they'll spread is
only three now. Statistically speaking, Alabama's better than Georgia at
least so far through three games, although Georgia, in my
opinion's got the you know, the toughest opponent, you know,
a road trip to Tennessee getting that w in the

(12:57):
second half. I like the over more than anything here.
I think George's offense with Gunner stocked in the second half,
found themselves a little bit. But Kaylen to Bor and
Alabama has They've had success last year over Kirby and
ty Simpson's playing, you know, quietly last couple of games
as well as anybody in America quarterbacks. So I like

(13:18):
the over.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
It seems like sometimes you need that early season loss
to kind of re reconfigure the team and refocus them.
Because Alabama was gassed up coming in and getting crushed.
I mean again, the competition has been weak since. But
you think they can win this outright? I know you
said you were on the over, but what about a side?
Can they win this money line?

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yeah, certainly they can. It's only a three points spread.
If I had to bet the side, though, I'd be
more inclined on Georgia. Georgia has to win this game.
I mean, they're one in nine the last ten against Obama.
They haven't been Alabama at home in over twenty years.
I mean, smart, Kirby, smart can't go to zero to
two against Kailn de Bor. So I just this has
to be a Georgia win. But I mean, again, only

(14:00):
three points spreading. Again, I if you want to beat Georgia,
I won a three. I think you're gonna see al
at mammon money come in. I'm not necessarily sure that
this is going to close three.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Interesting. I know you're a big Notre Dame guy, Irish.
I don't want to say reeling. They've lost two very
close games. Got you could argue God unlucky in both
of them. That being said, they're kind of banged up
in the secondary, go to Arkansas. They're favored in SEC country.
This feels a little dangerous. I think the lines come down,
But what are you seeing in this one?

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Yeah, I'm part of the Arkansas money early in the week.
Do I love it as much? No numbers matter, I mean,
especially when it was seven and a half on Sunday,
so big difference. What I am confident in is I
like both teams offenses against the opposing defenses that have
struggled big time. I'm not sure Leonard Moore is going
to play again for Notre Dame, so I mean that's
a big advantage for Arkansas. Arkansas offensively is just as

(14:52):
good as when Notre Dame played against Texas A and M,
where they gave up forty one points. Hell, they gave
up twenty three points and a half to Purdue last week,
so I'm right now now over sixty three and a
half would be my preferred bed here.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Do you think it with a loss, Notre Dame's eliminated
for playoff contention this year?

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Uh think I went out. I mean ten and two
they're in, and any loss in the next nine games
and they're out.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Damn. That would be tough for Marcus Freeman. What have
you made of the quarterbacks so far? Car or anything?

Speaker 3 (15:21):
I like CJ. Carr quite a bit. If they had
a better record instead of one and two, there'd be
more people talking about CJ. Carr because that's as good
as it looks as a freshman. You like me as
far as giving you a hot take, I think CJ.
Carr continues to progress, there'll be the number one picking
the draft in two years. Wat there you go. You
heard that first two years in advance.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Number one overall. Wow, what about the kid from cal
he's been really good.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah. I just think CJ nore Dame that I mean,
the NFL has probably been starving for a Notre Dame
quarterback to have that, you know, that factor. I don't know,
he just has that, you know, doesn't have an over
He's not gonna be JaMarcus Russell or somebody you know
throwing the ball sixty seven yards but he just has
that touch on the ball and the deep ball like
a Tom Brady Joe Montana. I'm just his. They're not

(16:09):
one and two because of CJ.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Carr.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
I can tell you that six three, two ten. He's
a big boy. He had a good, solid game against Miami.
I didn't love that game plan, but we don't need
to revisit that one. What was the other game? I
had just looked at Okay, So Indiana smashes Illinois, I
mean absolutely destroys them. I didn't see a play of
that game that being stead After a big win like that,

(16:33):
they got to go to Iowa this week. I know,
you know the letdown theory? Are you considering the Hawkeyes here?
I didn't think they look great against Rutgers last week.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
No, I would agree with that. I think Rutgers, you know,
even though Iowa got the win. I thought for a
majority of the game, Rutgers was the right side there.
But it is a spot where everybody's now buying Indiana.
You know, oh my god, they look better than even
last year's team that made the playoffs. I mean last
night check Kinnick's a pretty tough place to play. Iowa
is fifty four and fifteen at home the last ten years?

(17:04):
Are you telling me I know I can get that
all important extra half point or point above a key number, Eileen,
Iowa here plus appointments. I think it's a sneaky over.
I think I was starting to find some things with
their quarterback. It's definitely better quarterback play than what they've
had for the last couple of years. Offensively and obviously Indiana,
if they get rolling again, I mean, I just do
who's gonna stop them? So over forty eight? I think

(17:25):
people are thinking low scoring. I'm not so.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Just hearing the words Iowa and over in the same
sentence is like laughable because historically they're like in the
low thirties. But are they like adapting?

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Last games have flown over for them? Yeah, I mean
how they just had sixty six against Rutgers.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Unbelievable. Wait they scored sixty.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Six of that sixty six total points?

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Oh total, I was good. I remember watching. I was like, wow, yeah,
one other quick one so Ohio State's first real road
test at Washington and this I think was ten. I'm
seeing eight at uh eight and a half? Where are
you on this game? Is this kind of sneaky, dangerous
for Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Yeah, I think so, but numbers matter, and I mean
the look aheadline was thirteen and a half. I know
it because I bet it. There's just been a little bit.
Las State didn't play last week, So are you giving
me Washington where Washington State shouldn't have been moving the market? Now,
it's not a liquid market. Look aheads and college football
compared to the NFL. Lookheads, But just I can't get
to the window now if you're chasing too much. If

(18:27):
you're betting Washington, what I do like is the over
because I do think Washington's quarterback Williams really good kid.
You know it's true, Solimore a very dangerous athlete. They
have a good one to two punch at running back.
I know Ohio State only allowed seven points to Texas
in the opener, but if you remember, Texas was moving
the ball up and down the field and that what

(18:48):
we see from Texas to last three games makes me
think maybe Ohio State's defense is a little overrated. So
I think Washington will have success. But on the flipside,
Washington's defense is a mess. And I mean Jeremy Smith
and then the monoskill talent that Ohio State has is
going to overwhelm them. So over for me fifty two.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Just for the audience. You don't have to tell us
how much. But what's the max bet you can do
on a look aheadline? What do they allow?

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Well, it depends. It gets sophisticated, so you can do
multiple well, you know, I try to bet at multiple
accounts at once. It depends on what counts you're using.
Some are limited, some are You can get a few
grand down, Okay, that's pretty amplice you get ten grand down,
but you get a few grand down.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
If thirteen and a half, dude, that's yah versus eight
right now, eight and a half, that's wild.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
We had Dan Wilkin on the pod earlier this week
and he said he's wondering if UCLA. I couldn't tell
if he had info UCLA makes a move on Kaitlin debor,
you know Calen. Let's say he loses to Georgia. You
know the message where idiots are already coming after him.
Does he just say I don't need this sec crap.
I'm gonna head back west and I'm going to rejuvenate

(20:07):
the UCLA program. Can you envision a scenario where that happens.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
No, So I could see him going somewhere else, But
I would not go to UCLA right now. I just
I would be stunned if they'd have that kind of
money because what I hear is there in debt as
you know when it comes to you know, all sports.
I just don't see him having the money to be
able to negotiate the buyout. Plus the bar is a

(20:33):
pretty smart guy. I mean, they're they're going to have
to really up to any when it comes to recruiting budgets.
So no, I do see him eventually maybe leaving Alabama
same throwing his hands in the air. But UCLA is
he could do better than UCLA.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Is it weird that, you know, I know the government
and we're not going to get political, is kind of
going after UCLA at targeting them, and a lot of
their students are international, meaning they pay full freight more
than in state guys, which is I'd love my kids
to go, But I wonder if that has an impact
on the coaching search because you know, like you said,
it's like, does UCLA have money to hang with the

(21:08):
big boys in the Big ten.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
I don't think they do. As of right now, they don't,
so I don't think the job is that attractive. I mean,
where's the fan base at I mean you've seen the
Rose Bowl. I mean they just Chip Kelly was looking
away to get out of there, and he was doing
all right. He was, you know, around that eight and fourish.
I don't think go eight and fish in the Big
ten as it is right now. They just they're gonna
have to commit a bunch of money that they don't have.

(21:31):
But that's California way though.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Yes, indeed, all right, let's take at the Big ten
USC Illinois. It's weird USC. I remember before the season, Wow,
like and Riley better win that buyout, blah blah blah.
All of a sudden, now I'm seeing social media a
USC sneaky national title contender. I gotta be honest, I
have not watched closely enough, but Jordan Mayava. People are

(21:54):
like geeked about this guy. Where are you on? USC?

Speaker 3 (21:58):
I don't know if they'll be as geeked after the
the next three games. I think they're gonna slip up
at least once somewhere. Illinois was really bad against Indiana.
It was a horrific performance. I'm gonna go derivative market here.
I'm gonna go first half Illinois plus three and a half.
Early start time for USC nine am Pacific start time,
Like Lincoln Riley's already complaining in the media about the

(22:20):
start time this week, So I'm expecting maybe a sluggish
start from them. Illinois's got to come out with their
hair on fire, big newon kickoffs there. I mean, you
just to were embarrassed last week. I think they give
it their all out effort, at least for a half.
I don't think it'll be enough for the full game.
But uh, Illinois plus three and at first half. That's
one of my favorite bets actually of the week.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Of the week. Interesting. So Jordan Mayava, like I remember him,
I think UNLV he was the guy who kind of
left after three games because he wasn't getting Is that
him or no?

Speaker 1 (22:47):
No?

Speaker 3 (22:47):
Different guy?

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Oh, different guy? Okay, So what's the Jordan Maava story?
Because he's looked good numbers wise, and I think he's
he reminds me of Sam Donald because he wears the
same number.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
Yeah he was. He started as a freshman in You
and All. He did a good job. I mean, one
freshman of the year in the conference in the Mountain West,
but you know, he had turnover issues and even last
year had some turnover issues. They just their slate of
opponents hasn't been that great so far, so I'm kind of,
you know, hesitant, you know, announcing him as the next
you know, Heisman contender under Lincoln Riley and you know

(23:18):
for you know, top five draft pick. I don't know
if he's that guy. So I'm just waiting, especially with
their one of their wide receivers is banged up. I
just they're gonna get a little bit more tested this week,
and they're definitely gonna get more tests in their next
two games Michigan notre name coming up. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Yeah, they're definitely not winning all three of this all right,
Final GAMEE the big one Oregon Penn State. I think
I saw this touch for and then there was some buyback.
It looks like on Oregon currently I'm seeing three and
a half of Penn State. A have you bet this?
And B is James Franklin a fraud.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
I like that as Yeah, I I have not bet it.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
And here's why. For a big game. Uh, there's a
lot of unknown and here we are at the end
of September. Why is there an unknown? Because both teams
combined and played seven opponents. Not a single opponent ranks
in my top seventy five my power ranks. I mean,
I tweeted earlier that maybe the best team either once
faced is Montana State, who Oregon played in the opener,
an FCS team. That's how bad the state of opponents

(24:21):
is numbers wise, though, because that's what I'm says. Oregon
is a better team and almost every metric, and they
played a slightly tougher schedule and for talking schedule, so
I lean Oregon. But it feels kind of like a
trap taking that three and a half. Yeah, but man,
James Franklin does not win big games. I know, it's
a wide out. He doesn't win white outs, especially against

(24:43):
teams like Ohio State. You know, an Oregon it could be,
you know, it's just as talent as Ohio State. I
expect a conservative game plan early. I think first half
under like twenty five and a half makes some sense
for me, you know, I think they'll play conservative with
Dante more Early, the Oregon quarterback, and Drew Aller. You
talked fraud with James Franklin. I mean Drew against good

(25:06):
teams when he when somebody has talent on the other side,
he's an average quarterback at best.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah. Okay, So when you said your numbers say Oregon
is the better team, is that just this season or
is that including last year? Or do you dross out
last year because it was Gabriel and and now there's
a new quarterback and more.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
Now that we're the end of September, you know, we
have something called priors that you have coming into a season.
You know those have been taken out, not entirely, but
there's you know, we're three four games, and you know
it's mainly based on this season.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Okay, So if your numbers say Oregon is the better team,
why do you think Penn State's favor I mean home
field is I guess the white Outs probably.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
The white Outs probably three. Yeah, it's worth more than three.
I mean that's it's the one atmosphere that probably gets
closer to four. As far as home field advantage, Death
Valley at Night, LSU and the white out for.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Pennyte and on James Franklin in these, So I think
the number is he's four and twenty against top ten opponents.
But then all these Penn State guys are like, well,
wait a minute, fourteen of those were against Ryan Day,
Jim Harbaugh, and Urban Meyer or something to that effect. Yeah,

(26:19):
and it's like, okay, so he can't beat good coaches.
I think we all agree Dan Lannings a really good coach.
I don't know if he's in that category.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
He's headed that way.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
It seems like he's headed that way. But I am curious, like,
how does that stuff handicap factor into your handicap at all?
Just like the Franklin against top teams.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
It shouldn't, but you know, I'm human, it does. I mean,
when a guy consistently cannot do it. I think the
bigger one was the last time he played a top
ten opponent, Notre Dame. That had to be Penn State's
game because they had two extra days rest, which shouldn't
at that time. Here arguably had to build more talented team,
had the two most talented players, you know, Warren a

(26:59):
tight end and obviously Carter defensive end. You're up in
the game double digits. Notre Dame's banged up, and you
still can't win that game. I just that was And
don't tell me, oh they're an underdog. They closed a
favorite in that game. Come on, So I do question
it because it's time and time again. He doesn't do
little things as far as clock management, and when you

(27:20):
combine that with Drew Aller doesn't perform all in big games.
It's tough for me to trust a head coach quarterback
that can't win the big game.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Wow. Yeah, no, that's good. That pretty good takedown. Real quick.
Since you mentioned Aller, I saw the new Heisman favorite
is the guy from Indiana. I confess I.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Wish I could bet to know on that.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
I didn't know who he was before that. I like
didn't know who he was a month ago. But like,
so what do you do? What are you looking at
a high school? Do you have any guys still live?
Club Nick?

Speaker 3 (27:49):
Obviously I'm Another bad take I had last time I
talked to you, is like everybody like Club Nick. You know,
arch Manning and stuff. You know, the two heiights and
favorites are completely out of it.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
I think it's a good week to diversify your portfolio.
So no matter who you like, one of these big games,
I think shading it. If you haven't already, bet one
of those guys to win the Heisman. Uh, the one
I like kinda. I know this goes against our Alabama
preseason pick, but Gunnar Stockton, if he has another big game,
he's gonna be the Heisman favorite. After this week. He
has the throw of the year so far in college
football against Tennessee. That fourth and six over the shoulder throw.

(28:24):
I mean, that's, you know, on a Heisman tape. If
he has another throw like that and they beat Alabama again,
we'll we'll next time you and I talk, he'll be
the Heisman favorite.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
It just well, for who was the Georgia Stetson Bennett.
Did he? Did he win a Heisman or no? No?

Speaker 3 (28:39):
Okay, he won more important than he won not one
but two national championships.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
I remember my take was like, boy, Stetson Bennett, Hey,
you know you need somebody to do your taxes. Call
Stetson Bennett. He just didn't look like much. He didn't
look like a dominant quarterback. But maybe that's what Gunner is.
I don't see NFL in that guy. But could he
be a Gardner midn't you?

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Yeah, I don't see that, but if he look, it's
also a team award. The last twenty years, the average
number of wins in the regular season for the Heisman
winner has been eleven. Now, you had Travis Hunter last year,
but I mean that was a totally different outlier playing
two ways with the coach prime media effect. I will
the award has become a November award. It used to
be when I was a kid, a career achievement award.

(29:21):
You know, somebody you know has rock Dan senior year.
But now it's just whoever has the biggest performance in
the biggest games in the month of November, there's your
Heisman winner.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Yeah, it feels like it's gone gone to the days
of rocket Ishmael totally dominating Mischig was his sparty in Michigan. Yeah,
man a college footballs Well. Hey, by the way, you
mentioned should Travis Hunter. So there was a report that
should Doer Sanders Before the draft or maybe it was
draft day, the Ravens called and were interested in him,

(29:52):
and he was like, no, I can't. I'm gonna have
no chance to play with Lamar and he went to
the Browns. Now, we don't talk NFL a lot. I
have no idea what your take is on this, but
I am just curious hearing that the Baltimore Ravens wanted
you and you said no, you wanted to go to
the Browns. I just want to see you up on that.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Probably not the best advice. I know he wants to
be a starter, but you know you're not gonna He
wasn't going to be a starter right out of the gates.
And in the NFL, I.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Mean, the Cleveland Browns are maybe the worst run organization
in the league, and the Baltimore Ravens are like a
top five, top seven, Yes like that.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
I mean Lamar runs and he's getting up there in age.
I don't know. Why wouldn't you want to sit in
that organization for a couple of years?

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Yeah? Anyways, Aaron Rodgers Sat, Brett har say a lot
of good.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
SAT A year. I mean it's okay to say a year.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
So yeah, anyways, all right, Brett Powers, gambling expert college football,
great stuff, Good luck this weekend, man.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
Hey, thanks for having me.

Great stuff from Brad Towers, and why don't we just
dovetail right into college football and NFL bets?

Speaker 1 (31:22):
Now?

Speaker 2 (31:23):
College football was outstanding last week because of a couple
of late big plays. The plays for me this week,
the big ones. At least Alabama plus three. We'll be
holding my breath on that one on the road at Georgia.
I know everybody likes Georgia, but I'm with powers. Give
me Alabama Arizona plus six and a half. I'm really
pissed that I missed the seven, but what can you do?

(31:43):
Washington plus ten that's long gone. But my plus ten
is minus one fifty, so the return on investment is
not great. I just you know, I mean eight not
nearly as good as ten. But there's a thought that
Washington makes us a three point game. I will see.
But yeah, ten more of a key number. Down seventeen
you get a garbage time touchdown. I will gladly take
the push and take my money back and say thank

(32:05):
you very much for the three hours of entertainment. LSU
plus one, and then I'm going Ucla. Yes, Ucla just
fired their coach plus seven, just on the hope that
they show up and are competitive. You know it probably
won't be for long. I'm gonna add some of Brad
Power's picks. I definitely like Illinois first half. That is

(32:26):
a good one, and nothing on Penn State. Oregon yet,
sorry Oregon yet, I do like his first half under idea.
My gut tells me it's gonna be Oregon for me,
I was hoping it goes back to four. We shall see, right,
NFL listen, I don't try to sugarcoat things here. I'm
not trying to impress anybody that like I'm some kind
of amazing gambler. That's just I don't fake the funk

(32:48):
like that. Guys. I'm not gonna lie. I got my
teeth kicked in last weekend. As many people know, you
can have a couple outs where you are say, getting
down so some money, and one of them won because
I didn't have a ton of NFL plays, and the
other was an absolute bloodbath. Basically, every every big side

(33:12):
that I liked just got killed. Well, I mean even
forty nine ers not covering due to that safety that hurt.
Chargers barely get there for me. Titans embarrassment, Falcons just
damn outright pathetic. Let's see what other losers did I have?
I think, Yeah, I was chasing Monday and I got destroyed.

(33:32):
It was just a It was bad. Listen, man, your boy.
I lost out on Bill's first half on Thursday. Jets
got there for me. Browns I didn't have money line,
but they got there for me I wanted. Vikings didn't
pull the trigger. Patriots lost, didn't cover outplayed the hell
out of them. I had the Rams in that epic loss.
I mean, it's just all around the horse manure. I
had Texans in the contest. Seattle was a hit, but

(33:55):
I didn't do it in the contest. Didn't even go
heavy enough. Dallas loses CD lamb, they get smoked. It
was just rough. And then of course the Ravens just
capping things on Monday. It was bad. So here's what
we're doing, Dublin. I'm on the Minnesota Vikings minus two
and a half against Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. I
remember what Brian Floores did to Rogers and the Jets

(34:17):
last year confounded him. Get pressure and the Vikings are
top seven in blitz percentage, top seven in pressure rate.
They are going to get after Aaron Rodgers and I
think Flora's in company. Get it done. Carson Wentz adds
Jordan Addison to the mix off his suspension, so that's
another weapon. Jordan Mason looked good justin Jefferson should eat

(34:38):
against the Steelers secondary. Just remember Sam Darnold had a
field day against him. Drake May went up and down
the field. They just had turnovers. So I think Carson
Wentz was gonna be fine. I think the defense carries
the day. I will obviously check to make sure the
Vikings injuries. Van Grinkle's so big, like he's an awesome
defensive player. Obviously you want m in the mix. But

(35:01):
the Vikings injury report hopefully will shape up is good.
Let's see her as we record this Thursday night. Damn
Van Grinko still not practicing due to the neck. I
mean they need him back, that's undeniable. Christian Darisow, he
played well. Good to have him back. Their center Ryan
Kelly is back from his concussion practicing so things are

(35:22):
looking good and there will be no high Smith coming
off the edge again at Carson Wentz, so that's positive.
I like the Vikings in that minus two and a half.
What is next, Philly Tampa. I'm on Philly fairly large
minus three, but that is a minus three minus one thirty.
You can either do that or you can do three

(35:43):
and a half. We know how many games done on
a field goal, so I would rather take my chances.
I think Philly handles them. Tampa's too beat up. No,
Mike Evans, I mean Abuka, you set them outside, you
get Quinion Mitchell on him inside, give me Cooper de Gene.
I think they're able to slow down Tampa. That being said,
Tampa has cost me money all three weeks with Baker
Lake comebacks, our Carter and Jordan Davis gonna eat in

(36:05):
the middle against his beat up Tampa defensive line. I
don't know. I thought the Jets would they couldn't, but
the Jets defense is not quite Phillies. So I like
the Eagles there New Orleans Buffalo not touching the fifteen
and a half. I know, out of just respect for
the gambling gods, you're supposed to take the Saints there.
I'm sorry. I can't do it with Spencer Rattler. I
mean he just he looks overwhelmed. We called that Seattle

(36:27):
one early that was a game over in like first quarter.
Maybe it's like ten minutes in Carolina, New England. I'm
on New England minus four and a half early in
the week, minus one nineteen. It's now minus five and
a half most places. I think that Panthers win was
just some lucky I watched it because I was invested
in the Falcons. I mean, Penix with the pick six
after halftime down ten, nothing was like, give me a break.
They missed guy, they missed two field goals. Everything that

(36:49):
could go wrong went wrong. Now New England's at home.
They get their best cornerback, Christian Gonzales back Raybel. He's
got a very new group. I think they I think
they are, you know, in good shape to do some things.
And remember we had Sheelle Capatia from the Ringer on
this week. He's bullish on the Patriots upside, getting all
these new pieces together. I'm on the Patriots. Yes, I'm

(37:12):
going with the Atlanta Falcons once again because I'm in
glutton for punishment. Plus three plus one fitty. Now that
was before it started to look like Jade Daniel wouldn't play.
It's down to Washington minus one, Washington minus one on
the road. Now Jaydan Daniels shows up, I'm probably cooked.
But excuse me, no, Terry McLaurin. You know they've got
Deebo Samuel. Okay, Atlanta's defense is not great to begin with.

(37:35):
We know that aj Terrell. Let's see if he's going
to be back. But I just look at that pass us.
I think they're gonna be okay against Washington. And is
Washington really good enough to be laying points on the road.
I don't know. Falcons just keep breaking my heart. If
they maybe I'll have to put like a firm do
not bet if they lose this one? What else? What

(37:56):
do we have next?

Speaker 1 (37:57):
We have.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
Browns getting ten against Detroit. I have nothing on that game.
I may take the under. Short week for Detroit. This
Jim Schwartz defense could cub some stuff and slow the
Lions for a bit before they finally pull away in
the fourth quarter like I thought the Packers would do.
But yeah, nothing on the side for me. I'm I
think the Texans stink. The Titans have been a colossal disappointment.

(38:24):
A line of minus eight for the winless Texans. Are
you kidding me? How are they favoritebody? They're not good?
Tell me what they do good? I mean we know
the Titans do nothing. Probably, I feel like that's my
worst call of the offseason at ohen three. I have
a ticket on them to make the playoffs. I'm probably
gonna burn it if they lose this game. Move to
the Chargers and Giants. It's a six and a half now,

(38:46):
I got I think the Chargers are the best teaser
leg with the Packers this week. You take the Chargers
from six and a half down to win by half,
and you take the Packers from six and a half
seven down to win by a half or one. So
you just need to pack Chargers and Packers to win
both on the road. Now, there is some unknown with

(39:09):
Jackson Dart. Maybe the defense shows up. I mean we
saw the Herbert get beat up by the Broncos, sacked
five times, still was able to bail them out. And
and you know Bo Nicks, he wasn't terrible against the Chargers,
just missed a couple open receivers. I mean that was
a closer game. I mean Broncos. You know, we're getting crushed.
And then before the half ended they get a score.

(39:31):
And then they opened the second half with the score,
and then there was some weirdness and all of a
sudden they're up. After being down ten to nothing, looking dead,
they're up seventeen ten. I was like, what the hell?
And then of course Herbert bails them out. So listen,
it's a Yes, it's a long road trip. It's not indoors.
Remember Chargers played the opener in Brazil. Then they came

(39:53):
back and played in Vegas. Yeah, and then they went
to the Dome in LA. Now they so outdoors to
New York. Doesn't look like weather's going to be an issue.
I just I think Jesse, there's a bet on Jesse
Minter not letting Jackson Dart do his thing. Now, quarterbacks
that run have thrown some scares into the Chargers. Minter

(40:14):
hopefully will be ready for Jackson Dart, who is good
with his legs. But I like the Chargers to win that.
Please forgive me, but I'm on the Niners again minus three.
And when you look at their injury report, you're like, Jay,
what are you doing? I mean, seriously, We don't know.
If you even know if it's going to be Rock
Purdy or Mac Jones. We don't. It could be either one,
which you know, maybe good news. Maybe they're playing games.

(40:38):
I don't know. But Jawan Jennings not practicing. That ain't great.
Ricky pearsall not practicing. That ain't great. These are the
Wednesday practice reports. If you go into a game with
no Kittle, Juwan, Jennings, Ayuk and pearsall those are your
four top pass catchers. How are you getting separation against
the Jacks. I don't know. Jacksonville's not terrible. I do

(41:01):
remember was it last year? Two years ago the Niners
went to Jacksonville And if you guys the video, I
love this video so much. Coming out of the tunnel,
some guy was carrying a boombox and Deebo Samuel and
Trent Williams were leading the way dancing and you could
just see, Oh, we're coming out to freakin hurt somebody. Yeah,

(41:24):
this was two years ago when they went to the
Super Bowl. They came out of the tunnel dancing and
they just I mean pounded the Jags. I think the
final was like thirty four to three, just an utter
ass kicking. Now that being said, remember what I said
last week. Oh the lost Todd and the Lions went
to Baltimore. Lots changed in two years. I don't think
this Jag seem is terrible. I'm already regretting my Niners
minus three, but I'm not taking the Jacksn't wait, Kyle Shanahan,

(41:47):
Come on, I'm not betting against that guy. And by
the way, they are three and zero despite all these injuries.
They are a good by low. At some point before
all these guys come back from injury. Coltrams nothing from me.
I don't like that hook. I saw DeVante Adams is
dinged up. Don't know if he's gonna go. Injury is
a big factor this week Bear's Raiders. I'm on the

(42:07):
Raiders minus one here. I think people are overreacting a
little to their win over Dallas. I'm just gonna remind
you CD Lamb goes down early, Dallas throws two picks
in the end zone. This should have been a little closer.
And I personally don't think the Bears secondary is great.
I told my son, hey, you might want to grab
Geno Smith in Fantasy bro. Geno Smith is Finna Cook

(42:31):
as the young kids say, brought Bowers should be back
to one hundred percent. Jakobe Myers, the young kid, Trey.
I believe it's Trey Tucker in the slot and the
Bear secondary is beat up. Go look at that injury report.
They're not good. See what the Lions did to him
two weeks ago. So I think the over could be
in play here, and I think Gino Smith goes bonkers
and I'll take the Raiders, although the last time I

(42:54):
bet them, they laid a massive egg against the Chargers.
Raven's casey, I'm staying away for now. I'm obviously rooting
Ravens because I want my off season prediction that the
Chiefs Smith's the playoffs to come true. And then Sunday
Night football is absolute fire Packers, Cowboys, no CD LAMB
for Dallas. I don't. I mean again, you look at

(43:16):
that offense. You come out and it's like, Okay, we
got Pickens, where's he at? Okay, where's Ferguson Gavonte Will
It's like, what are we afraid of? You know? The
Green Bay defense? I will expect they toggle between man
and zone. Halfley's a real crafty one. And then you
just unleash Micah Parsons against this offensive line that, you know,

(43:36):
if we're being real guys, this this Cowboys offensive line there,
it's just has not been amazing. And Dak, let me
look at the PFF grades real quick for the offensive line.
So Geyton, the young kid out of Oklahoma, their first
round pick. He grades out sixty second out of seventy
among tackles. Their backup center, brock Hoffman, grades out nineteen

(43:58):
out of thirty six. Tyler Smith, the left guard, is
off to a rocky start after three good seasons. Their
right guard is somebody named TJ. Bass, undrafted out of Oregon,
and then Terrence Steele is undrafted out of Texas Tech.
So the entire right side of the line is Jags
if you will. Sorry not to be mean to them.
They're obviously pros, but I expect Michael Parsons to be

(44:22):
moving around and getting after Dak. This is a revenge
game for Micah. I don't know if you could bet
his sacks, but you go over under one and a half. Now,
Dak does tend to release the ball quicker, but that's
when you have CD Lamb in the mix, and it's like, well,
if ceedee, Lamb's gone. Who's your quick hit guy? Let's
see here? Is it Turpin?

Speaker 3 (44:43):
Is it Tolbert?

Speaker 2 (44:44):
Is it just a bunch of short, quick slants to
get rid of the ball because your offensive line's not great.
So in the opener when everybody was healthy, Dak was
not sacked against Eagles. Then the injuries start to mount
and he sacked three times against the Giants twice against
the Bears. Dak, by the way, interestingly, did not run
once last week. Ran once against the Eagles and three

(45:06):
times for seventeen yards against the Giants. He had the
one big scrimble Lake. He clearly does not want to run,
and you could see his numbers last year were significantly
down when it came to running. I mean, I know
we only played like almost half a season, but he
is rushing. So if you look back at what twenty
was twenty three, the year he was nearly the MVP

(45:27):
might have been was it twenty two? Let me see here,
twenty Yeah, it was twenty three, he was nearly the MVP.
I think he finished runner up. This guy. There was
a lot of games where he's carrying five, six, seven times.
Now you go look at twenty four the year he
gets hurt. Three carries was the high in a game.
And I mean he's just not moving. He's not leaving
the pocket as much, folks. Against the Packers, he's going

(45:50):
to be running for his life. So I like the Packers.

Speaker 1 (45:53):
They're big.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
Those are the bets. Oh my gosh, fifteen minutes of bets.
You could see little Degeneraty chasing after last week's NFL losses.
Have a great weekend, See you Monday.
