Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
What is up, Drake Fire Faym, It's me Jason McIntyre,
Straight Foyer for Friday, December the fifth. It's a great,
great weekend for football, but Thursday night not great for
your boy. I was on Dallas the overhit, but the
Cowboys did not. Cowboys actually get run off the field
in Detroit forty four to thirty. Disappointing result for the Cowboys,
(00:33):
but I'm sure Jerry Jones somewhere will.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Be like, hey, you know, what.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Are our defense? You know we thought we really fixed
it with Quinn and Williams and company. Yeah, I'm sure
they did. Detroit Lions went up and down the field,
four hundred eight yards of offense, seven point two yards
for play. How about this final seven possessions Lions with
zero punts, four tudies, two field goals and a missfield
(00:57):
goal or a block field goal, whatever you want to
call embarrassing stuff from the Cowboys. They basically I think
I saw nine percent chance to make the playoffs. I
mean with that defense, you just got to assume they
don't really have a shot. It's just not a real
serious defense. And now you know the idea of Dallas
winning five in a row going to the playoffs like
that feels like a pipe dream. I bet on Dak
(01:19):
to win the MVP this week. That was stupid. You know,
this loss basically takes him out of it. Maybe they
win their Final four and they sneak in a wild
card berth, but they need like fifty seven things to
happen to pull that off. So I don't see that happening.
I feel like Cowboys are cooked. And then if you
want to get real scared, if you're Dallas, like what
are you doing in the offseason? You've sunk crap ton
(01:42):
of money into the defensive tackle position with Williams Clark
and Oogie I don't even know how to say his name,
but it's like, and you have no good linebackers are slow,
the secondary stinks, and then you've got the highest pay
quarterback in the league with the biggest cap hit. And oh,
by the way, Pickens is gonna want a big deal.
(02:03):
Oh well, just franchise tag him. Yeah you think he's
gonna like that? It says like Brandon Ayuk kind of
nonsense written all over it. That was just a devastating
loss for the Cowboys. I'll just say this. I'm not
gonna hammer him too much, but I just didn't at
all understand the offensive strategy for Dallas. I mean, I
(02:23):
swear I don't have the numbers in front of me.
I don't even know if everybody charts it, but I
would almost guarantee you if Dallas had fifteen first downs,
they ran on like thirteen of them. And I know
they were trying to set up the play action, and
the play action worked, but when they didn't go play action,
it was predictable what they were gonna do, and that
was Dak running for his life. He got sacked five times.
(02:46):
I mean, this is a Detroit defense. That's not great.
Al Kuadin Muhammad, who who he had three sacks for
the season. Let's see what he had for the season
coming into the game. He had Wait a minute, he oh,
he had six acts this season. I was totally unaware
(03:07):
of that, blissfully unaware of that. I didn't even know
he was a factor. I mean, that's a hell of
a game for that kid. He was destroying the I'm
sure the PFF ratings when they're out later this morning
will show that the offensive line was horrific. Obviously, the
CD Lamb concussion didn't help. He was on fire. Pickens
did not have his best game. Ryan Flournoy was solid
(03:28):
nine catches on thirteen targets, but overall I think just
cooks the Cowboys Detroit. I still don't think we take
them too seriously. It was shocking that a'm aat Saint
Brown played caught six passes for ninety two yards. That
was enormous. If you take him out, I don't know
what they do offensively, Like where were they throwing to?
Jmo had an okay game. Gibbs seven catches, seven targets
(03:51):
and was roasting people who tried to guard him. What
the bottom line is, this is Dallas, you know, unimpressive
showing when they needed it most, which is typical for
the Cowboys. They will not go to the playoffs, they
will not go to the NSC championship game. The beat
goes on before we get to best bets. I did
just want to quick well, we'll touch on Lebron in
(04:13):
a minute. I obviously Lebron had a monumental moment, Luca's
out with the birth of a child. But let me
quickly one more thing on the NFL. So this Lions
situation in the offseason. I predicted no playoffs, and obviously
a lot of Lions fans were like, you're out of
your mind. I even bet a buddy on Detroit versus
(04:35):
Denver because he thought I was crazy with my Detroit
love and I don't love the Denver at all. But
he was like, you're going overboard on Denver. The schedule,
the defense, Like, it's clear, but here's my thing. On Detroit.
All this does is really give them a stay of
execution for the playoffs. This doesn't totally help them because
(04:57):
they still are behind the Bears, They still behind the Packers,
who they got swept. The Lions need help actually or
to get into playoffs. And then you look at the
schedule and you're like, okay, well, Dan Camble certainly has
his work cut out for him. They are at the
Rams next week. The Rams are bargaed with the best
(05:17):
team in the NFC. Then they host the Steelers. That
should be a w Vikings. We'll see. I'm a little
bullish on the Vikings, as you will find out in
Best Bets. I'm bullish on them this weekend. I don't
think they're totally dead and not for like to make
a run or anything. I just think, you know, JJ McCarthy,
if he can get his left tackle back, probably not
this week. Justin Jefferson the defense that they're gonna be competitive.
(05:41):
They could play the spoiler role down the stretch. I'll
just leave it at that. And then they got to
wrap up at the Bears, which is outdoors and not
an ideal situation for GoF. So if we assume a
loss to the Rams, assume a win over the Steelers.
The Vikings game is four days it's on Christmas after
the Steeler that's a tough, tough to go on the
road four days later against the blitz heavy Vikings. They're
(06:05):
gonna need to win that. If they go three and
one down the stretch, that's eleven wins. Is that is
eleven wins gonna cut it in the NFC. I mean,
in the AFC, that would be amazing. But the NFC
is just so stacked. I mean, you look at the
San Francisco forty nine ers. Guys, the forty nine ers
are almost one thousand percent gonna make the playoffs. Okay,
(06:26):
they're gonna get They're gonna get probably twelve wins. Okay,
the Rams that game against Seattle will be huge. If
the Rams win that, they're probably fine. And then you
look at the Packers. Are the Packers getting beat again
this season? I don't know. They have two against the Bears,
they face the Ravens, which will be tough. That that
one's at home at the Vikings final game of the season,
(06:48):
and then there's an interesting Sandwich game against the Broncos.
I believe the Packers will be favored in all five
of those games, and so yeah, I just it's gonna
be tough for the Lions. I think we pencil in
the Eagles, right, Eagles are good. Let's just say Tampa.
I think they win this weekend. I don't think Carolina
(07:08):
is gonna win the division. And then you've got ram, Seahawks,
Niners are all safe. So that's three four five, You've
got Green Bay and then either Chicago or Detroit. So
maybe it will come down to that final game of
the regular season, Bears at home outdoors against the Lions,
(07:30):
because the Bear's schedule is brutal, Packers Browns Now, the
Browns game is at home, but that defense is filthy.
Packers again at Niners and then Lions. So I don't know, Yeah,
the Bear. Maybe the Lions sneaking is the last wildcard
we'll see. It's gonna be interesting a fun certainly. Month
of December into early January. In the NFL.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
All right, now, let's get to the Lebron topic. It's
funny because you know Thursday night football, you expect it
to dominate, But here we are. Lakers at Toronto Raptors
are a plucky team so far this season. You look
at their roster, You're like, who the hell is Sandro
Makashevi di VIDI. I have no idea who this guy is.
He's ragining threes. Jacoby Walter. I'm like, is that the
(08:27):
kid from Baylor playing heavy minutes? They're playing a kid
named Jamison Battle who was at Ohio State. I was like,
how are these guys playing major minutes? Jamal shed was
the stud who played at Houston for so many years,
And I'm like, they got a lot of guys, but
the problem is they don't have any superstars and their
default is Brandon Ingram, who had a rough game as
(08:49):
he usually does against the Lakers. Oh, missed all his threes.
He got a couple offensive boards, but like he just
didn't shoot it good enough, and especially not enough when
he's facing Austin Reeves. And I know this was a
Lebron game and he what happened at the end will
be huge, but we need to put this Austin Reeves
stuff in perspective. Guys forty four, ten and five. Austin Reeves.
(09:16):
I don't want to say he's unguardable, but when he
starts to go into his moves, his bag is so deep.
I saw a clip Kevin Garnett was talking about Austin
Reeves and he said he's got a black guy's game,
and I was laughing. I'm like, okay, sure, And then
(09:37):
you watch Austin Reeves. I'm just telling you look at
the amount of moves he goes to. He's it's not
just crossovers, it's up and unders, it's hesi's it's fake
fade away, keep your pivot foot down and then go
for the layup. Like he's consistently getting me to be like,
oh okay, Austin, I mean the guy is good and
(09:58):
so you knew he was cooking him. He had forty
four in forty one minutes with Luca out the birth
of his child. They doubled him on the final play
and they left Lebron unguarded. Scottie Barnes came off Lebron.
Scotty Barnes, man, he's he's a long, good defender. He
blocked a Lebron fadeaway. Lebron had a rough game. Let's
be real, okay, four of seventeen shooting, missed all five
(10:20):
of his threes. He's only been it's only his fifth game.
I'm not I know, J Mack. Why you making excuses
for the guy? Come on, listen, man, he's old. Okay,
But Austin Reeves gets doubled on the final play. TI
game passes to Lebron. Clocks starting to wind down, Lebron drives.
(10:44):
It's just like with the Warriors, where teams would double
Curry and then you get Draymond Green playing the point
forward driving in four on three and Draymond high iq
makes the play always for the Warriors. So Lebron, now
here's the difference. Lebron sitting on eight point. He has
a streak of two point seven billion NBA games in
(11:05):
a row scoring in double figures. Not really, but he
has the record by over like four hundred and a
selfish player would have said, I'm taking this to the
hoop and getting mine. I gotta get my ten and
hopefully I score. If not, we go overtime. Who cares.
Lebron didn't do that. Lebron took a dribble, looked off
(11:26):
Bi brandon Ingram just briefly, and then kicks it to
Ruey in the corner, who releases the three in the air.
Buzzer goes off. Bang, Lakers win. Now. I know that
there's a certain portion of our audience who's just so
sick of the Lakers and Lebron and Kuluka. I get that, guys,
But it was pretty awesome to see Lebron essentially put
(11:51):
his career into one play. At this stage, he could
have easily gone up and just said I got I
got a score. He said, no, I'm gonna do what
I've done, the right decision. By the way, thirty six minutes,
I know he had eight points. He shot horribly from
the field, eleven assists, zero turnovers. Always finds a way
(12:12):
to make something happen even when the shots aren't falling,
the threes weren't falling. Could not get to the line
in thirty six minutes, and he drove a lot. He
doesn't have the lift that he once did. Listen, this
is where it is. All throughout the game. I'm watching
this and you know, I'm always trying to think ahead
the next step, and I kept saying to myself, I
(12:34):
wonder if a Lebron decides this is gonna be his
final year, you know what I'm getting old. Let me
just hand the reins to Luca and Austin. I don't
want some prolonged, nonsensical worldwide tour where they give me
a rocking chair at every stop. I don't need that crap.
Let me just go off and become a billionaire, you know,
and by the Las Vegas team that's coming into the
(12:55):
league in a couple of years, maybe he does that
right cause it's pretty clear. I know it's only five
games a long way Togo, but that Lebron is not
a MAX or anything close to a MAX player. After
the season, that's very clear. He could hit the gym
only wants There's no shot of that. Nobody's giving him
any kind of max money. So then what does he say?
(13:17):
You know what, I want to play with my son
one more year. I'll play for the minimum. I'm not
gonna play heavy minutes, but it'll enable you guys to
go out and find someone else to take that big,
big salary. I'll come off the bench. I'll enjoy the
final season with my son and Luca and Reeves and
someone else can cook, and I'll help coach the guys
(13:39):
on the bench. You know, is there a war he
does that or is he too proud? Well, watching Lebron
make that decision of I don't need to score, screw
the double digits. I want to win, it made me
wonder if maybe he opts for that, because I'm just
telling you now, I don't see him going to the
Pelicans to collect some big paycheck and end his career there.
I just don't see that. And you can off at
(14:00):
the Pelicans, find Blazers, Kings whatever. I just and I
don't see like the Nick saying, Okay, we'll give you
twenty million dollars a year because that's what we have
at our mid level. I'm just tossing out numbers. I
don't see any of that there's no I don't think
there's a world where any of that stuff happens. So
I know I should live in the moment and really
focus on what the play was. And I did that
(14:21):
and it was great, and I'm doing that now. I'm
just saying, you watch this and you're like, hmm, interesting
because going forward, they have a big decision to make
with Lebron. They don't want it to get ugly. Nobody does.
And I don't think anybody's gonna want to sign Lebron
for a big money, one year deal anywhere. So these
are the things that I think about as I'm struggling
(14:43):
with the Dallas Cowboys to not cover the spread. And
of course, like an idiot for the first time all
season in the Vegas contest, I said, you know what,
let me let me submit early, just so I can
have the weekend to myself. I submitted the Cowboys as
one of my five picks. The others let's see, uh,
(15:06):
Cowboys plus three missed Vikings minus two and a half
Falcons plus seven rams ONUS eight and a half Texas
plus three. That's what I submitted. So yeah, thanks a
lot for nothing, Cowboys, but thank you Lebron. For a
beautiful night in the NBA. All right, let's get your
best bets for the weekend. A lot of football.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
All right, let's get the best bets. It's a huge
weekend for football. College football Championship weekend will determine the playoff.
Talked a lot about the games with Chris Felika yesterday,
so we don't need to dive too deep into them.
I am on Ohio State minus four and a half.
Give a slight lean to the under in the game
against India, and I expect a very cautious approach from
(16:10):
both teams early. I would look at a first half
under if you're interested. Just a quick reminder, the Buckeyes
ten to one in one against the spread this season
and people are still looking for reasons to date against them. Obviously,
Indiana story is great. The schedule has not been very difficult,
but it's not like Ohio State's played much since the
Texas game. I am on Alabama money line plus one
(16:31):
fifteen and I took to two and a half. Like
the Tide here Georgia, their center sounds like he may
miss I just I think Calen Deboor has a coaching
advantage here. I think Alabama has the quarterback advantage. Georgia
overall has the better team, but give me the coaching
quarterback and Debor obviously has something on Georgia. And it's
where Kirby smart for whatever reason, just he's got issues
(16:54):
with this Alabama team. I believe he's one and eight.
Is that it? I'm looking at my notes here. Kirby
has one win against Alabama. Might be one and six
in the I did not bet the JMU game, obviously
rooting JMU Texas Tech twelve and a half. It's ballooned
out to thirteen. I really want to hammer the Red
(17:16):
Raiders here. But the matchup, you know, the rematch given
the first one BYU, is gonna come with some new wrinkles. Obviously,
they will throw the kitchen sink here because they've got
a win to get in. Texas Tech is in. I
don't think they coast here. By any stretch, but I
do have some concerns about finding margin for Texas Tech
could just be a sleepy performance. They don't need to
oppress anybody if things break their way. I mean, Texas
(17:38):
Tech is gonna is probably gonna get a top four seed.
They would obviously need Indiana to lose and drop behind them,
and I mean they currently are right in the mix anyway.
I don't think Oregon's gonna pass them, but I think
Texas Tech wins. And what's the other one. I have
nothing on Duke Virginia at all. I could care less
(17:58):
about that game. All right over to the pros. This
is where it gets a little problematic. So I know
I've been talking about the website. I'm gonna just put
all the picks. It's nearly done, just tightening some screws.
It should be finished this weekend. So I have sent
it to a couple of people I trust and respect,
and they seem to think so far, Hey, this is good.
(18:19):
So I think you guys will like it. Here's what
I'm on this weekend. Houston plus three and a half
that was earlier in the week. I think it's gone
a lot of threes, but just a reminder, I get it.
Kansas City is Patrick Mahomes and andybe. They are at home.
They're very good at home. This is a team that was
down twenty to nine to the Colts before a fourth
quarter search. The Colts okay, and the Colts we've seen
(18:42):
in recent weeks are not great. Chiefs look like they're
going to be down three starting offensive linemen. That is
not great. I think the Texas keep it close, they
probably lose. But if the Texans win this and the
Chiefs basically nail in their coffin, I think they're eight
or nine percent to make the playoffs. If they lose this,
they would need a lot to break their way, like
the Chargers to lose to the Eagles and who's the
(19:03):
Buffalo to lose to the Bengals. They would need some
stuff to happen so they can still remain in the mix.
But ultimately, I don't know. I just it's tough for
me to not think that Texas three and a half
are the side I did bet Packers six and a
half earlier in the week. Bears have a couple injury concerns.
This is one of the games for the website that
I wrote up about liking the Packers here. I'm happy
(19:27):
to take a favored home team here, which is clearly
better when the Bears appear to be the biggest public
dog this week, it looks like seventy five percent of bets.
You remember, I forget who came on the site, came
on the podcast a couple weeks back and mentioned the
draft Kings bet splits. I went and checked them out,
and the public is hand over fist folks all over
(19:51):
and I mean all over the Bears here. They love them,
probably because it's a big number of division rivalry. I'm
just telling you the Packers. I think they're thirtieth in
blitz percentage, yet their tenth or eleventh in pressure rate.
What does that tell you? They send four and are
getting to the quarterback at one of the in the
upper crust of the league with four. So Caleb, he's
(20:14):
not gonna be like, oh, here comes the blitz from
this side, Oh this is happening. No, he's gonna be
under pressure from four and they're gonna be disguising looks
on the back end. I just wonder if a guy
who's struggling with completions is gonna have one of those
like oh, I don't want to make a mistake. I
don't want to screw up. He's gonna have one of
those nights and gets a little rattled. I can see
like a twenty seven thirteen Packers type victory. I am
(20:41):
on Minnesota minus two. I know it's crazy. JJ McCarthy,
what are you doing? Christian Darisoud doesn't appear as if
he's gonna go, which is not great. But I mean, guys,
I think we talked about that. I don't know if
I mentioned this on the Pod or the Herd, but
if you look at the Viking schedule and you're like, oh, man,
look at how bad they've been. They can't win a game.
They're not even competitive, they're not even covering the spread. Okay, well,
(21:05):
some context is needed. Here are their last seven games
versus the Eagles. They were underdogs. Eagles are one of
the top seeds in the NFC. They lose at the Chargers.
Chargers are a playoff team in the AFC. They get
Vikings get stomped at Detroit. They went there and they
won that game. Yes, they beat Detroit. Detroit is still
(21:28):
a playoff team as of now. They may not make it,
but they're still a playoff team. Baltimore leading the division.
They lose that game. Then they face Chicago. Chicago's the
number one seed in the NFC. They lose that game.
They play Green Bay, they lose that game. Green Bay
is one of the best teams in the NFC in
the league. They go to Seattle with their third string quarterback.
They lose that game. But what do all those teams
(21:50):
have in common? Common Philly Chargers, Lions, Ravens, Bears, Packers,
Seahawks all are playoff teams. They faced seven playoff teams
in a row. Are you kidding me? That is a gauntlet. Meanwhile,
Washington steps up to the plate and Washington is definitely
not a playoff team. Now. I know they showed well
against the Broncos last week, very impressive fight, good stuff.
(22:13):
I'm proud of them, But I don't know, guys, I
just Washington. Look at the results before that. That had
a lot to do with the inept to Denver offense,
and Washington's defense is just not very good. I think
McCarthy can get right here. Justin Jefferson has been complaining
this week. I expect a monster game out of him.
I like the Vikings here I bet the Vikings minus two.
(22:35):
I am on the over Bengals and Bills over fifty
two and a half. I do like Buffalo here. I
just I was hoping I could get a lower number.
I was thinking at four, but it doesn't seem like
you're gonna get that. I'm seeing fives and sixes. I
like Buffalo. I just that defense against Burrow up up
ten late you Burrow, Chuck and Duck. It looks like
(22:55):
Higgins is probably gonna be back. Hase Chase is there.
I could easily see Joe are going up and down
the field getting trash points even though they're down thirty
one to seven, and getting a backdoor cover. So not
a huge fan of that one. I did bet Ravens
minus six. I know rivalry game, Jason, what are you doing?
I just I think it's over for Pittsburgh. I know
that you want to say Mike Tomlin's in battle. This
(23:17):
is a perfect spot for Mike Tomlin. He can rally
the troops. I don't know, Kenny. I just look at
this team and I don't think there's a lot of
talent here, guys. I mean Aaron Rodgers complaining about his
receivers offensive lines, bad defense, can't stop the run. Now
you gotta face Derek Henry, gimme Ravens. I'm on Texans
(23:37):
Chiefs under forty two. And I also, let's go to
the other location. And I took the seven with the Falcons.
Interesting nugget that I kind of unearthed. I don't know
what it's is it's something? Is it nothing? So if
you look at where is it here at the last Okay,
(24:03):
West Coast teams coming east week eleven and on, Chargers
go to the Titans win, no cover. Forty nine Ers
go to the Giants win no cover. Chargers go to
the Jags loss badly. Titans host the Seahawks. These are
West Coast teams going east after Week eleven, not earlier
in the season. Okay, Seahawks beat the Tech Titans do
(24:26):
not cover. Raiders are one that went to the Browns
and got the loss. But the Raiders are the worst
team in the league arguably. Niners went to the Browns,
they won and cover. Okay, Arizona at Tampa push, Rams
went to the Panthers lost. Denver went to Washington win
no cover. Are you sensing a trend late in the
season West Coast teams may be worn down, tired, going east,
(24:51):
laying big numbers and not delivering. I would keep an
eye out on this Seattle Falcon game. I don't endorse
back Incau. We don't know about Drake London. I just
get the sense this game will be interesting. So I
took the seven in this one and Survivor. We will
(25:11):
be on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Unless something else happens,
It's gonna be Tampa for us. Now. I do have
a little concern. Again, at this stage in the game,
you gotta be concerned. I was talking to David Baker
and his point is like, yeah, Tampa's good. Everyone else
in your pool is going to be on Tampa. I
(25:31):
was like, yeah, but you gotta have options. What options
are there? Ain't no way in hell am I backing
Chaudeur Sanders. I mean, everybody has the Browns available. You
think Shaudeur's definitely beating the Titans. Isn't there a world
where Shauduur has two or three ghastly turnovers special teams
miss q any you know it's the Browns and Titans.
(25:54):
I just don't think that that's where we want to back,
you know, Survivor when you're this late in the game.
I don't think many people have anyone good left outside
of Tampa. There's no touchdown favorites. You're not taking Seattle
on the road. Everybody's burned Seattle. You could go Ravens
against the Steelers. It is a divisional matchup. But Lamar
(26:15):
miss in practice yesterday. I didn't love that. But that's
pretty much where we're at with Survivor and and hey,
you know what, it's tough this late in the season.
That's just how it works. There's not a lot of
options next week. I do know this. We got the Eagles.
They're hosting the Raiders, so please Baker deliver because we
know the Eagles are a layup. Raiders are horrendous. That
being said, Raiders are gonna be frisky against the Broncos.
(26:38):
I assure you guys love this stat. Broncos defense was
on the field for eighty five plays on Sunday. Usually
anything over seventy is like, okay worth looking at a
little more over eighty. And they only beat the Raiders
by three last time. I remember that because I had
the Broncos, so I would be very careful laying any
anything on the Broncos favor by seven and a half.
(27:00):
I doubt the readers can pull out to win. All right,
that's it for the week. We are back Monday, Oh boys.
Should be a good weekend of sports. Enjoy it.
