What is up Straight far Fan? It's me Jason McIntyre,
Straight boyer for Friday, October the third, And you know,
sometimes you get a good night in sports, and oh boy,
was Thursday good. Not good for me on the NFL
betting front, Holy hell, but it's a great night all
around in sports. Obviously the most important my men's league

basketball team. We had an awesome matchup against this team
that has two really really good players. They don't show
up for the game and so we set a scoring
record trouncing them that they're the rest of their team.
It was awesome. It was fun. But as I'm playing,
you know, the game was a blowof from like the
second quarter on, and I'm just asking the guys, Hey,

what's a RAM score? What's a Rams score? Guys? This
is it's really it's been a tough three weeks for
me financially with the NFL. I don't understand what's going on.
Sometimes you just don't see the ball well, sometimes you
get bad breaks. I don't know what to say. The
Rams lose outright, and the forty nine ers with Mac

Jones throwing to Kendrick Bourne, do you guys remember last
week Kendrick Bourne had a brutal drop against the Jags.
Do you remember that? I mean Kendrick Bourne. He was
unguardable for the Rams. So I just we're at this weird.
I don't know if it's a moment in the NFL
right now where nobody seems to know anything, and I
know there's some guys out there, so oh, Jay, come on,
you've got to take the points. The visual match up

The line went from three and a half, which I got,
to eight and a half. I think it reached nine. Okay.
The Niners were down their starting quarterback, starting wide receivers, one,
two and three starting tight end and when they lost
Bosa last week, they got zero quarterback hits, zero sacks.

This was a Rams team that I mean before last night,
a lot of people probably thought, hey, this is a
super Bowl team. And again the ball bounces one way
and next thing you know, I'm sitting here scrutinizing just
how good are the Rams. They beat a Texans team
that's crap. Texans only have beaten the Tennessee Titan, so

that win in hindsight doesn't look great. Tennessee's winless, so
that win doesn't look great. They have a huge lead
against the Eagles and gag it away. Egles are good, obviously,
but second half they couldn't do anything. And then they
kind of got lucky against the Colts because of Mitchell
dropping the ball in the end zone. And I don't
know how good are the Colts. Like they're good, but

are they a super Bowl team? I don't think they're
a super Bowl team. And so now you're you're basically
facing the backup Niners offense and you lose. I mean,
they came out and let the forty nine ers and
back Jones go right down the fiel know bing bang boom,
and then they did it, let it happen again, and
it's fourteen to nothing. I'm like, oh my gosh, here's
the worst part. I wanted to add more to my

bets on the Niners. I was like, you know what,
I gotta go to this Bensley game. I'm not touching it.
I don't know what the hell's going on. And you know,
rams wake up a little bit too late. And yes,
there was an opportunity for Kyne Williams at the one
yard line. He fumbles with the one that he scores
that touchdown, then the Rams cover at least three and
a half and at least they win outright right, but

he fumbles and then in overtime, you know they still
have a chance to get a touchdown after that bomb
to two two out. While I'm like, okay, that's a
great play, Stafford is absolutely on fire. I mean, here,
here's Matt stafford stats for the night. Okay, thirty of
forty seven for three hundred and eighty nine yards and
three touchdowns. He was unbelievable. I mean, whether it was

dump offs to Kyen Williams, Puka Nakua any and everywhere.
DeVante Adams had a game, Jordan Whittington got in the act,
Terrence Ferguson Davis like Stafford was just a mice stroback there, Okay,
and McVeigh. After two timeouts, san Fran takes one and

then the Rams get to the line and they take one.
So you have two timeouts to think about your play.
Here and McVeigh, the genius, the offensive mastermind, decides to
call a halfback dive into the teeth of the forty
nine ers, defense where Fred Warner's waiting the best linebacker
in football. I mean, you just I totally get going
for fourteen. You don't want to play for the tie.

I get it. And the Rams defense was moving up
and down the field. Again, you had the bad pitch
from I don't know if that fumble was on Let
me see who they credit it to. Yeah, they credit
it to Stafford. It was a pitch to Blake Corum
and I guess they're calling it like not a great
pitch or whatever. But so that fumble was on Stafford.
You had the Kiram William fumble, and it's like, you
make those two mistakes, you get a kick blocked right

the extra point. They should have been up twenty one
twenty again they should Rams should have won this game.
But I thought they were gonna win handily. And this
is where it gets crazy, folks. So now I'm in
my head like and I think I said it this week,
and this is not me, This is not opinion, this
is fact. The San Francisco forty nine Ers special teams
has been an abomination this year. From that opener against

Seattle where Shanahan was pulling his hair out over Jake Moody,
who they ended up cutting. And then before you're like, oh,
well they fix things, No, they didn't. Go Look at
last week against the Jags, they give up a kick
return touchdown or it was a punt return touchdown, and
like a sixty yard kickoff return. And their kicker Pinniero, who,
like I know, he's a veteran. I think he's like

older than I am. He had not been flawless. Let
me just so you guys don't think I'm out here,
like you know, trying to act like some know it all.
So last week he was two for two. Oh actually no,
maybe I was wrong. Where are the extra points? Okay,
they did miss an extra point against the Saints. I

knew it. So they was at Miskick. So his first
game after they dump Moody missed an extra point against
the Saints. Then he had a good game against Arizona,
a good game against Jacksonville, but against special teams was
not good. When you give up a punt return touchdown
and a kick and a kick return that sixty yards
is set went up and now their special teams is great.
Joel Piniero hits from fifty freaking nine and then he

hits the game winner. Uh, and he goes four for
four and the Niners special teams all of a sudden, Like,
the NFL is absolutely crazy right now, And somehow this
sport has made it so that, like the games could
be ugly and they could be boring, but in the
end they're gonna be thrilling. It's kind of like an
NBA basketball game where and I don't totally believe this,

but it's like, oh, you just have to watch the
final like five minutes of an NBA game. That's when
all the craziness happens. It's like, Okay, well you could
say that about every sport. Give me the ninth of
a baseball game or the eight to ninth inning, you know,
and I'll tell you who's gonna win, you know. Like,
but I don't know, it just feels different right now
with the NFL. Something is happening where no lead is safe.

People played down to their opponent, people stop playing I mean,
look at the Eagles last week. They had zero passing
yards in the second half after being up twenty four
to six. Teams just it's weird. People get ultra conservative
with the play calls. It's so crazy right now. And
McVeigh walks into the to meet the media and he's like,
I'm sick right now. I screwed my team by calling

it an awful play taking the ball out of Matt
Stafford's hands, and they should have won the game. It
made McVeigh admitted he screwed up. The worst part is
he had two time outs. I mean, you've got money plays,
dump off to Kyron. I would trust Kyrien in space
against just about anybody, probably not Warner. You have Adams,

who's one of the great route runners in the league.
You have Puka who just is unguarded. I mean, the
margins in the NFL are so slim, and Vegas wins again.

I'm a brock Purdy guy. He's hurt. This is what
Mac Jones did against the Rams, the Mighty Rams defense
thirty three or forty nine for three hundred and forty
two yards and two touchdowns. Now he wasn't throwing deep,

and this was a mistake that you saw the Rams
make early. Essentially, the Rams said, we're gonna give you
guys cushions. We don't want to give up the big play.
We don't think you can move the ball down the field.
And Mac Jones said, I can move the ball down
the field. And he hit Kendrick Bourne on ten of
eleven passes. He hit Christian McCaffrey on eight of nine.

Jake Tungus, the tight end, the hero from the Seattle game,
he had eleven targets. I mean, these guys are only
one guy had to catch over twenty yards and those
Kendrick Born, everything else under twenty yards, longest carry eight yards.
It was one of those games where the game plan
they simplified it. They said, we're gonna kiss it baby.
We're gonna keep it simple, stupid, very simple, nothing exotic,

nothing crazy. We're not chucking and ducking. Mac. Can you
run this? Mac Jones said yes, I can. And I
know you guys are saying, well, listen. The reason brock
Purty's good as anybody's good with Kyle Shanahan was Trey
Lance good he's top five pick. They've traded up for him.
They couldn't get him out of town fast enough. I
don't want to hear that. Okay, Jimmy Garoppolo was good.

They moved on from him because besides being injury prone,
although you could say that about every forty nine er,
besides that, it's like, you know, Groppolo couldn't make every throw.
It appears it appears. Now this is just my untrained eye.
It appears Mac Jones cannot make every throw. He can
make a lot of them. I don't know that he

can make the throws that brock Purty can. Now that again,
if you want to call if Shanahan wants to call
me on that, fine, great. But once he does that,
they're gonna be like, well, why the hell did you
pay brock Purdy when you've got Mac Jones here? And
I don't know that. It's like Mac Jones is better
than Rock Perdy. I'm not go that's a dumb discussion.
I think the better discussion is why have we seen

so many quarterbacks in the last five years, five six
years struggle in their first spot and then rebound at
spot two or three or four. Obviously, Baker Mayfield is
a poster child for this, but Sam Darnold for sure. Okay,
I think at this point you can toss Mac Jones
in there, like he is playing exceptionally well. Daniel Jones

in Indy, we saw Gino Smith, he's a little older
than these guys. But Gino Smith, now he was rotten
last week with the Raiders. But it's just a weird
situation where these guys are drafted in the first round,
they don't deliver, everybody calls him a bust, and then
they resurface elsewhere and it's like, oh wait, this guy
can play. So my two thought, my two lines of thought,

and feel free to counter this is Number one, when
you're drafted in the first round or HI, you're viewed
as the franchise savior. You have to save the day.
You've got to come in and be the franchise quarterback
that they've been looking for for years or decades. Is
this the case with my Jets? And so when you
don't do that, you're trash. We need to find someone
else and they move on. The second one is a

lot of these guys who are drafted aren't ready to.

Be the guy.

And I'm not talking about sit for a year like
Patrick Mahomes and then you come in and hit the
ground running and you're dominant. No, I'm not talking about that.
I'm just talking about not meant to mentally ready to handle,
whether it's the press, bad games. You know a lot
of these quarterbacks who were drafted high were studs. I mean,
look at Mac Jones at college. He won a ton
with Alabama and then he goes to the pros and

it's like, oh, he's not really doing anything. He did
get to the playoffs with the Patriots, I think is
a rookie. Let me check that, and then they got
slaughtered by Buffalo if memory serves, and let's see here, Yeah,
he was with New England and they got slaughtered by Buffalo.
Then he became a turnover machine the next couple of years. Now,
(12:35):
there had been some turnover there with Belichick and everything,
but then he bounced to Jacksonville, had like a brief
moment and now, by far, this is the best we've
ever seen Mac Jones at the NFL level outside of
his rookie year. And I just you know, you look
at Daniel Jones. He got to the playoffs. I know,
with the Giants. It was a little smoke and mirrors there.

You look at Baker Mayfield. He did get to the
playoffs with Cleveland, but I think the lack of pressure
when you're now a backup fighting, you're hungrier. You don't
come in with like an entitled attitude. Hey man, I
gotta deliver. I'm not the man. You know your first round,
pick your hand at everything. You're the guy you're starting.

You know, you're talking to the media, and now it's like,
you know, Mac Jones kind of got kicked to the curb. Bro,
you're back up in Jacksonville. You ain't on seating Trevor Lawrence,
and Jacksonville was like, yeah, you know, it's not happening.
And then you get picked up and it's like, oh,
I mean, it's at the point where like Mac Jones,
I mean, Baker Mayfield was in Carolina with Sam Darnold.
Those guys were reclamation projects on the scrap heap. It's

just a great story that they didn't throw in the towel,
right and they were able to rebound and are now
having productive careers. I mean, I'm telling you right now,
this quarterback class, we'll see how good it is. We'll
see what happens with Dante Moore if he comes out.
But I'm telling you Nuss Meyer Club Nick, all these guys,
it's like, I don't know. I wonder if mac Jones

has already shown enough here in three games where it's like, well,
she's if he can do that. Can we get you know,
a quarterback that could rank anywhere from twelve to twenty
for like twenty five million a year as opposed to
some rookie who we don't is a crap shoot and
I'm gonna lose my job. Can get? Can mac Jones

be a bridge quarterback where you're kind of like we're
gonna rent you with the option to buy if you thrive.
You know, I don't know, but i'll tell you right now.
Mack Jones stood in the pocket. He took some hard

with the NFL. Something is happening where no lead is safe.

look at the Eagles last week. They had zero passing

you're drafted in the first round or HI, you're viewed
as the franchise savior. You have to save the day.

moment and now, by far, this is the best we've
ever seen Mac Jones at the NFL level outside of

at Daniel Jones. He got to the playoffs. I know,

You look at Baker Mayfield. He did get to the
playoffs with Cleveland, but I think the lack of pressure
when you're now a backup fighting, you're hungrier. You don't
