Speaker 1 (00:02):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We are
coming you alive from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in La Vegas. We'll take you up to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern, an absolute jam pack show tonight. So
much to do, so little time, and snap your fingers
(00:24):
just like that. After twenty three days, the NFL preseason
is a fadea complee And on Tuesday, well it will
be one of those situations where the clock will strike
midnight for some folks. But hope springs eternal. They got
you on film. You can always end up somewhere else.
(00:47):
Teams will have to cut from ninety to fifty three,
but you do keep seventeen on the practice squad. If
you are on the practice squad, there's always a chance
that you can be picked up by another team. And
when you know it. Earlier this evening, Aidan O'Connell, the
backup quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, fractured his risked
(01:11):
he's going to be out a while, and well, let's
not started these silly rumors because they would be silly.
But there was one particular player the Raiders said they
loved although they drafted seven players ahead of them and
watched five rounds go by and they could have had him.
Well hold that thought, because whether we like it or not,
(01:33):
and there's some things I don't like about it, Sdeor
Sanders really has become sort of the story of the
NFL preseason. He was arguably the one that raised the
most iron on Twitter, created the most controversy, selacious accusations, craziness,
(01:58):
and today you cannot see what you saw. I'm not
going to overreact to anything, nor did I overreact with
two weeks ago. But that was a situation today now,
whereby it just changes the dynamic of the way you
look at him in the Cleveland Browns and the whole situation.
(02:21):
All Right, He had a decent debut a couple of
weeks ago. And the reason I say decent is because
I can name ten other quarterbacks who didn't get anywhere
near the pub who did just as well. But he's
the bell of the ball right now. People want to
see it. He's the son of a legend in two
major league sports. But you know, the rookie fifth rounder
(02:41):
today had just a little bit of a rough showing,
But that's not the only thing we're going to talk
about here. We're gonna get on and off this quickly.
Because you saw that he completed three or six passes
for fourteen yards zack five times. You were told he
likes to hold onto the ball. Yeah, he does. I
want to hear your thing about he was playing with scrubs.
(03:02):
He was playing against a bunch of guys that'll all
be working at Naple Auto Parts next month too, maybe
not all of them. And by the way, that's good,
good Christian values. That's a good career. Nothing wrong with that.
So people, you know, they sit where they stand and
they see what they want to see and they want
to advance their own narrative. But before I'm done here,
(03:22):
in a few minutes, Sanders did one thing today that
I actually really like, and I'm being serious, and I'm
gonna get to that in a minute, because you may
have noticed he was ultimately relieved by Tyler Huntley with
two three left in the game. And I don't know
if that's a good sign or a bad sign to
(03:43):
him making fifty three man roster. It doesn't matter to me.
We'll watch and see what happens Tuesday. But you can't
tell me you didn't want to see Shador Sanders come
off the bench. She'd try to redeem himself and run
a two minute drive against Forrest and see if he
could get it done. He might well have. We'll never
(04:04):
know now, Dylan Gabriel sure did in the first two
minutes of the first half. Let's move on for that
for just a second, because it's taken up just too much.
Damn air in the room. A couple of other takeaways
from this NFL preseason. Watch out for Denver BOWNICKX and
Courtland Sutton. They're in mid season four. They were one
(04:25):
of the teams to play at starters in the final
week several did I'm loving this by the way, and
it was an efficient, very efficient showing for bow Nicks.
He cooked through the air ten or fourteen yards and
a touchdown, and he connected with Courtland Sutton for nineteen yards,
who also finished the game with four receptions in a
touchdown eighty three yards, and prior to that they'd been
(04:48):
hooking up in the bottom line is it hasn't taken
Sean Payton very long to make this team. Somebody you've
got to keep your eye on. Just a thought a takeaway.
The Lions have a new wide receiver. You're gonna hear
about him more. His name is Isaac Taslah. He's a
local kid in Michigan. He's been on a complete tear
(05:09):
throughout the preseason, including his matchup against Houston. Caught two
passes forty one yards at a touchdown, and he caught a
touchdown pass in all three games. Caught ten of his
thirteen targets, and it looks like he's got a real
shot to be wide receiver three. We'll see, but these
are their names you're gonna be hearing about. How about
Pactor Mahomes starting shining in the third preseason game. Andy
(05:33):
Reid typically plays his starters throughout the preseason. In the
season was no different. And I absolutely believe that the
rumors of Kansas City's demise are very erroneous. They may
not go fifteen to two this year, but I'll be
shocked if they're not eleven and six, twelve and five
(05:54):
in the right back in the thick of it. They've
got it in their DNA, they've got something to prove.
Mahomes also looked at midseason for him hitting tag Kwan Thornton,
a fifty eight yard completion of vintage Mahomes deep ball.
He also hit Travis Kelcey on a touch pass over
the middle for twenty yards and had a touchdown pass
to Rashi Weiss. And what you saw was legitimate chemistry
(06:16):
all over the field Mahomes. He had a thirteen for
one hundred and forty three in a touchdown, had a
nice hundred and twenty four quarterback rating for the preseason.
He looks primed for a big year. I would not
go to sleep on the Kansas City Chiefs, you know
who all started like a lot. Cam Ward, he looks
ready for Week one. He didn't play a whole hell
(06:36):
of a lot in the third preseason game, but he's
going to be the number one starter week one. Unfortunately,
they have to travel to Denver, and in a couple
of weeks we're gonna go over all my Week one
NFL betting tennessees or trends as it were. Rookie quarterbacks
don't necessarily farewell in their debut if they're starting Week
(06:56):
one and they've got to go to Denver. Those we've
got a bunch of divisional games, and those dogs always
look right. We'll talk about some of those things. But
Cam wore three or four thirty six yards. He looks poised,
he looks buttoned up, he looks like he has command
of the offense. He's got a lot of ability, and
on his second series he led the Titans on a
thirteen play drive ninety yards for a touchdown. Again, poise
(07:18):
in the pocket, comfortable in the pocket, Accuracyanis throws, and
the Titans their offensive line is better than it was
last year and seemed to show are the Titans on
thep swing, Well, we'll find out. They've got a tough
draw in Denver Week one. By the way, Van Jefferson,
they used to know the Titans had two fourth round
(07:39):
picks on wide receivers this year, and Jefferson was one
of those free agent signings. But he only signed a
one year, one point six million dollar deal, so a
roster spot is not guaranteed for him. But he had
a really strong game on Friday night, was his last
opportunity to make the roster. Three catches, one hundred and
five yards and a touchdown, including the sixty five yards score. Again,
(08:00):
these are things to watch. I remember back in two
thousand and two and I was still cover the Lions.
There was a young wide receiver rookie for Arizona. Nobody
said much about him. He allegedly ran a four to
eight to forty in the combine. He caught twelve balls
that first day as Steve Mariucci's debut. Caught twelve balls
for the Arizona Cardinals that day, went on to catch
(08:20):
one hundred more than once. Caleb Williams had his final
tuned up. He started Friday's game against the Chiefs. He
got a few series in eleven to fifteen for one
hundred and thirteen yards and a touchdown. The Bear scored
twice on for Caleb Williams and he had four drives.
Look was he great this preseason? Seventy teen to twenty
(08:43):
six for two twenty two touchdowns, no interceptions. I would
say based on what I saw, I'm seeing some improvement.
He's getting the ball out of his hand quicker. We'll
see if that that can continue. But I said it
in the beginning, and I mean, oh, by the way,
if it wasn't just a tough day for one Sanders,
I don't know if you saw Shiloh Sanders. He got
(09:06):
ejected for throwing a punch during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
game today, and well, we'll see, we'll see what happens there.
Why not let Shiloh Sanders into the act as well.
But I sat at the top Chador Sanders did something
today that I really like. While he at the beginning
(09:30):
was moping going off the field, feeling sorry for himself,
kind of sulking after not playing real well, he was
gathering his thoughts, pacing up and down the sidelines, and
he very much wanted to go in and redeem himself
on that final two minute drive, and of course right
(09:51):
on schedule. You know, the writers clue, well, he's a
he's a competitive kid. Okay, there are twenty two player,
twenty seven hundred players in NFL camps. Every damn one
of those people are fierce competitors. He's one of them.
But he wanted to go in. He really wanted to
go in. He asked Kevin Stefanski if he could go
(10:12):
back in. Stefanski said no, I'm not really sure why.
I don't know how to read that. I don't know
if you can project what that means, if that hasn't
anything to do with Tuesday rolls around. But apparently he
played his case. And the reason I like that is
because he showed asship assertiveness. I think they're in leadership
(10:32):
to whatever degree he could on Saturday, and I get
Stefanski's uh pat line was well, all along, we were
gonna let Tyler Huntley do the last series. I don't
think Tyler Huntley's making the team. Although I don't dislike
Tyler Huntley. If if if I had a game for
my life on the line and I had to start
(10:53):
Shador Tyler Huntley this season, it wouldn't be Shadur. Tyler
Huntley has been in the big leagues. He's done it.
But I don't think he's making the team. So why
would they need to do that, and why would you
need to coddle Shador. He didn't want to be just something.
I thought about that little silver lining, if there is
such a thing, I would just say this. Shadoor wanted
(11:19):
to redeem himself. And it is one of those situations
where now we're never going to know and I don't
know how to read into it, but at least he
threw it out there.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
All right.
Speaker 1 (11:28):

(13:52):
standing up late, buddy.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
Yeah, no, it's great to be here, Bernie.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
I were right in your wheelhouse, and I want to
kind of cover three areas tonight this all time Week
one slate some names to watch and then of course
some storylines. But let's dive rid right into your wheelhouse.
For the first time since nineteen forty five. Week one,
You've got three matchups, non conference matchefs featuring top ten
(14:18):
teams facing each other. Let's start with Texas, Ohio State,
Ohio State to Cheryl home Favorite. Break that game down
for us from the way you.
Speaker 6 (14:26):
See it well, Ohio State. I mean, I would say
two best players in college football in Downs and Smith.
I both play on both sides of the ball. Both
are absolutely fantastic. I think how teams play Ohio State
this year is going to be fascinating because they still
have two elite receivers on the outside as well. So
(14:48):
I'll be interested, you know, with innocent Tate, do you
take away because Texas has the pieces defensively to do
whatever they want. It's a matter of what kind of
game plen do they want to play? And I think
how a team tam lines up against Ohio State. I
feel very differently about a lot of markets. For example,
do you let Jeremiah Smith just go off and say,
no one else is gonna beat us, but we're gonna
(15:08):
play one on one straight up because we know that
they're really good at the other skill positions. And if
we double Jeremiah s man, if that means Tate Nifer're
gonna have single coverage and we're gonna get hose or
do you just you know, allow Jeremiah to get his.
So I think how Texas plays it's going to be fascinating. Obviously,
the new coordinators for Ohio State are difficult, I think
(15:31):
to swallow. That's probably the toughest part of Ohio State
to handicap this year. Anytime you have a depending national champion,
and really Chip Kelly was the brain power that left
town and he's now here in Vegas. So how they
handle that and how they're able to overcome that, I
think is going to be the key to their season.
For Texas. You've got it all right. You're kind of
(15:51):
the epicenter of college football right now. Bernie, your quarterback
is the star. You know, he's the Heisman favorite, he's
got the most famous name in all of quarterbacks. Have
elite players at every position, essentially on defense, especially two
running backs Wisner and Backs. They're probably the best run
game in college football behind maybe Penn State. You've got
two of the best defenders in the conference in Collins
Simmons and Anthony Hill. You've got a very savable SEC schedule.
(16:14):
You've taken your lumps in the playoff the last two years.
I think Texas, if they fall short of a national championship,
it's a disappointing season. And you start that by beating
the national champion in their house. So I think the
number favorite Texas, right, you know, they're not. The fact
that they're not a big underdog, you know, on the
road in the shoe, I think is fascinating, and I
would say Texas goes in there and get a win.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Outstanding. So a couple of points, I agree with everything
you said. Let's focus on Julian Sayan and arch Manning,
two young bucks. You've handed to the keys to the car.
Who's got more pressure on him because the house the
Bluckeys are defending national championships, are defending national champions But
of course Texas has high expectations for our Sward mabe.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
Aright significant more, significantly more pressure on him. Frankly, I
wouldn't be shocked if saying got benched at some point
this year, if he struggles, and you know, it's just
kind of all right, next man up court. You know,
Ohio State's got multiple other quarterbacks at the position that
they could play for arch Manning. I mean, goodness, gracious,
and I think the media, frankly, has set him up
(17:22):
to fail. And it's not anyone's fault, but it's just
kind of what happens in college football. There has to
be a star there there there. There has to be
the guy that everyone looks to that is the the
star on the field, and everyone expects him to play
well this year. It's it's arc and that's really high
(17:44):
expectations for a kid that's uh, you know, played what
fifty snaps in college football. He is expected to be, hey,
the number one pick at some point, maybe not next year.
And I don't want to get into the whole snapfool
about whether or not he's gonna come out, like I
think I think he's going to come out, but I
think they're just playing it cool. But he is expected
(18:04):
to be in everyone pick, expected to be the best
player in the country. Texas was number one team in
the country. I think he has significantly more pressure. And again,
Ohio they's got a couple of experience, one really experienced,
the third year player Lincoln Kinhols behind saying who's a
freshman transfer, you know, again, who haven't started a game
in college football. So I think if saying struggled, I
wouldn't be surprised if they made a move because I
(18:24):
think there's enough talent around Ohio State. I mean, goodness,
Gracius will Howard won a national championship last year and
looked fantastic in that offense. So I think they can
put anyone back there and maybe have a chance to
win some games.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Well, you bring up a great point about Lincoln Keenholes.
I talked to people, and that was apparently a very
hotly contested competition that either got could have him, but
they ended up tapping, saying, so we'll see where that goes.
Imagine that, I mean nine am Pacific time next Saturday,
right out of the gate, LSU visits well they don't
(18:56):
visit Clemson, but they're catching for Chip Kelly has a
excuse me, Brian Kelly has a habit of losing Week one.
What are your thoughts on that game? Jared, I wanted
to ask you, is Clemson worthy of the love they're
getting this year as a short list team to win
it all?
Speaker 8 (19:13):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
Absolutely, best roster in the conference for sure. I think
best quarterback in the conference. I mean, you can make
an argument for Carson back, but I think Club Nick's
got the edge.
Speaker 8 (19:23):
Right now.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
Clemson's dominant in the trenches. Here's the name to look
out for, Adam Randall emerging as a top running back
to to replace MafA. Randal is six two, two thirty five.
He played wide receiver last year, switched to running back,
been working with the starters all preseason. It makes a
ton of sense because the receiver group for Clenson's loaded Williams,
West goill More. They can bind for one hundred and
(19:44):
sixty one catches and over twenty two hundred yards last year.
I mean, that's that's all coming back. And if if
Randal slides into that Phil Maffa role, they're probably better
than last year because you get club Nick. You know,
the third year boost the defensive line is absolutely fantastic.
Dabo's actually taking players in the transfer portal now, so
(20:07):
look out. They added a defensive end from Purdue. They
added another defensive player. I mean, this is the best
defensive line in the sport. I think Penn State and
Clemson are the best in the trenches this year. The
only difference is one of them plays in a conference
that should be Swiss Chees.
Speaker 9 (20:24):
The other one.
Speaker 6 (20:24):
Plays in a conference that has some tough teams. And
Penn State's got really two really tough games, really free
to count the game at Nebraska. But Clemson I think
deserves to be the best team in the ACC and
I think they will win that conference.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
I completely agree. I'm just curious how they'll look when
you put them on the field. But you're right about
the roster. You're right about the roster, so I kind
of have to unsee what we saw last year in
the playoffs. Is their a top ten game? You mentioned
Carson Beck If you wearing new digs in Miami, they
are a short two and a half point dog to
the Notre Dame fighting Irish. Talk about that game and
(20:59):
do you like a seid?
Speaker 10 (21:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (21:02):
I think Notre Dame's intriguing. They've got a really dynamic
run game, and I think Love is fantastic. But the
backup price averaged over six yards to carry last year
as well. The offensive line is more experience than last year.
Marcus Freeman actually says, now, this is the best offensive
line he's ever had. I mean, I think the coaches
always kind of say that, but we're going to get
(21:22):
a good look at it throughout multiple games this year.
Won't get a great look at it against Miami. Like
I think Notre Dame should dominate the line of scrimmage
in this game. I really like Malachai Fields transfer receiver
had over fourteen hundred yards in two seasons at Virginia.
They also transferred to Will Pauling. He had over twelve
hundred yards in two years at Wisconsin. So you brought
in a couple of skilled guys on the outside. We know,
of course, Love and Price are fantastic the old lines
(21:44):
great Freeman again said is the best receiver group he's
ever had.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
And you get.
Speaker 6 (21:49):
Greenhouse coming our great house coming back from last year
as well. Schedule is pretty easy. Like I think Notre
Dame is the playoff team. I think of all the
teams in college football right now, I feel very confident
saying Notre Dame is going to be in the playoffs
because the way the schedule shakes out and kind of
how deep they are, especially in the trenches. I think
they are a playoff team. Miami is intriguing. Shannon Dawson
(22:10):
is a really good play caller, and I think we're
gonna see a lot more of him this year. You know,
you get another new quarterback in They kind of rolled
the dice last year with cam Ward and it turned
out great. I mean, just think about Shannon Dawson. You're
able to take cam Ward and turn him into the
number one pick in the draft. I mean, that was
a zero star recruit who played at Washington State and
incarnate word and he goes to Miami and he has
(22:34):
just an unbelievable year.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
I mean they scored.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
Almost forty five points a game. You know, average though
was over five and thirty five yards a game. Imagine
what he can do with a four star transfer like Carson.
Beck's got all the talent in the world. So we'll see.
They're not as deep at the skill positions as they
were last year. They did get a good receiver in
the portal CJ. Gannas from LSU. Mark Fletcher is a
solid back, but I thought they were better in the
(22:57):
backfield last year. They should have a great offense, the
defense is going to be terrible, so they're gonna have
to win a lot of high scoring games. Maybe that
makes Beck an outside heisan candidate shot of Miami can
win nine or ten games. But I think Notre Dame,
especially the trenches, has a big edge in this game.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I'm with you one thousand percent, and you got a
nice cozy line two and a half. And I'm not
really afraid to lay points on the road in college football.
I don't like to do it, but typically you have
better athletes on one side of the ball. I'm glad
you mentioned Penn State because I've been in touch with
my Big ten Mules Jared, and I'm told that on
paper they very much have the look of Michigan two
(23:34):
years ago in Ohio State last year in terms of
their physicality, Veterans defense drew Aller's third year. All of
a sudden, they say they got a good group of
wide receivers that they've never really had through the transfer portal.
Is this finally the year for Penn State? I mean,
it really gets nauseating hearing this year after year after year.
(23:56):
I've been hearing it since nineteen ninety seven when they
had David Mack, when I can't buy it until I
see it, but I'd really like to hear what you've
got to say about Penn State.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
I'm sick and tired of hearing the James Franklin narrative.
I think it's fair to an extent where he hasn't
elevated the talent around him. Yes, if that is your
definition of an elite head coach, that he takes average
talent and he makes it great, and that's fair. He
has not done that. But all of the games that
he's lost that are the big game James narrative games.
(24:27):
I mean, he's been an underdog in all those games,
So yeah, maybe he should have grabbed one, because underdogs
win all the time. But they were never expected to win.
They were never expected to go into the Horseshoe and
beat Ohio State. They were never expected to go into
ann Arbor and beat those elite Michigan teams. Those teams
were much better in the trenches. They were had deeper rosters,
better players. Now Penn State has better players, best offensive
(24:50):
line in the country period, hands down. They will dominate
teams in the second half of games because Allen and
Singleton are absolute peace. They are fantastic in the weight room,
one of the best strengthening shitting programs in the country.
Two best coordinators in the sport too. Didn't say that,
couldn't couldn't say that last year About the defense, I
think Allen's a great defensive coordinator. Knowles is better. Coto
(25:10):
Nikkei is gimmicky, but he still understands how to get
the best out of his players. And now he has
the best receivers I think that he's ever had paying
in the slot, and he reminds me of Derek Williams
back in the day. Kyle Hudson from USC Penn State's
never had I mean I went to Penn State in
the early two thousands and since then twenty five years,
they've never had a legit Alpha X receiver who can
(25:32):
stand up on the outside and go up and get
and get the ball. Maybe Alan Robinson was that guy.
I would put Hudson in that category. They're gonna be
double digit favorites in every game besides the two. Right
they play Oregon at home, that's an elite game, white out.
You know, it'll probably a slight favorite in that game,
but who knows. Oregon might dominate in Penn State could
look a little sluggish to start, so maybe maybe that
(25:52):
game be closer to pick him and I expect them
to be a dog on the road at Ohio State,
depending if Julian Sayan looks good. Who knows, Maybe o'ha
State falls off and maybe Penn State's even a pickham
a short favorite on the road in the shoe. I
believe that game's early November, but they're shoeing to go
ten and too and make the playoffs. And then it's
all about kun Drew Aller pull his head out of
as you know what and play well in the big moments,
(26:14):
because that's really the only thing separating Penn State from
being a championship team. Bernie, it's Drue Aller playing to
the ceiling of his talent. If he plays to that level,
the rest of the roster is absolutely stacked and this
team should find themselves in the national championship game.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
I couldn't agree more with you. I I to some degree,
James Franklin and Andy Koltle Nikki have to have some
faith in him to to turn him loose. And I
don't know. And by the way I digress, maybe a
quick wink at and not that Joji Rovisius. Those are
the kind of receivers player.
Speaker 11 (26:47):
Though that was before my time.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
That was before my time. That was probably in the nineties.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
I think, yeah, yeah, here's the thing. I can't unsee this.
Two years ago, Penn State, all intents and purposes, had
Michigan beat first and goal in the nine yard line.
They don't try to put the ball in Tyler Warren's
hands once. Did anybody not notice that besides me? I mean,
like what it seems like James Franklin gets in these
(27:14):
high leverage situations where he gets hot and it's hard
to breathe and they get cautious or something that's going
to be manning to use a Penn State guy.
Speaker 6 (27:22):
I don't know how much he's really calling the plays
in these situations. I think so. I was at the
Notre Dame game last year in the Orange Bowl, and
that game came down to three plays in my opinion.
Obviously the interception late that was a huge point. In
the second half, Drew Aller missed a wheel ro out
(27:43):
wide open wheel route. It was called to perfection and
he threw it in like the first row and then
if you remember it was it was either the first
or the second drive of the game for Penn State.
They had it deep in Notre Dame territory and Drew
Allen ran a play action and they had a wide open,
flat route on the goal line and kind of put
it right into the receiver's hit instead of throwing it
out in front of him where he can make an
(28:04):
easy play, and they ended up settling for a field
goal in that game. If any one of those three
plays go Penn State's way, and they were all errors
unforced errors by Drew Aller, if one of those three
plays goes the other way, I think Penn State wins
that game. That's how close that game was. It was
a razorst in margin. And then you go to the
(28:25):
national championship game against the team that you've already faced
this year in that season that you've played very tough,
and who knows what happens. I don't think they fall behind.
What was it twenty four to nothing or twenty four
to seven, excuse me? Notre Dame fell behind in that
game against Ohio State before they battle back late. I
think that's how close Penn State was to win the
National championship.
Speaker 8 (28:43):
Last year.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
They were one or two plays away against Notre Dame
that were unforced errors by Drew Aller from playing Ohio
State in Manatti. I just to me, if you're that close,
you don't need to change anything. You just need to
clean up the mistate. You just need to play cleaner
foot and I think if Drew can do that now
from what I hear, he's.
Speaker 12 (29:03):
A little soft.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
He's a little bit soft around the edges, a little
bit mentally soft maybe is the issue that I think
I hear and I see. But he has to grow
up and if he does, I think Penn Sake's the
best team in the country this year. I really do.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
You're not the first one to say that. Now, they
got to prove it, but in terms of their roster, composition, experience,
both sides of the ball, depth, they're going to be
a problem. Will see think get out of their own way.
We're talking with Jared Smith. Hear him every Saturday mornings
here on Contown to kickoff on Fox Sports Radio and
Fox Sports Radio College Guru Analyst. A couple other quickies
(29:38):
I have to touch on because they're going to be
in the news. What is the Colorado Buffaloes without Western
Jimmy Horn Junr and Travis Hunter and the like look
like this year. Full disclosure Jared. When the sendoff line
they open up at home against Georgia Tech, I grabbed
it minus three. I think Haines King and group run
all over. These guys could be wrong. Your thoughts on
(29:59):
Colorad in Colorado Week one at home against Georgia Tech.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
Yeah, I haven't done much on this game, Bernie. I'll
be perfectly honest. I don't really know much about Colorado
this year. They're kind of an afterthought. I like Georgia
Tech a lot. I really like the coordinator Faulkner for sure.
I think he's an absolute rock star. And you're right
about Haines King. I think defensively he might have some problems.
But i'd be lying to you if I've done a
lot of research on Colorado. I'm kind of usually the
(30:23):
way I handle the first part of the college football season.
If something obviously stands out to me, I'm going to
dive in, and if I have a future on a
team that I really like, I'm obviously going to have
something there. But I let the college football season come
to me, especially teams that lost a lot and went
through a ton of turnover. I am not going to
break my back a handicapping be betting because typically it
(30:44):
changes and you have to watch a couple of games.
And for example, you went, you could have handicapped NLBT.
You blew in the face. They played two quarterbacks the
entire game. Today, you can't handicap that. I mean, that's
something that you just have to watch the situation play out,
you react to after you see it, and you have
to pay for the information. Unfortunately, I think college football,
unlike the NFL, where we get a lot of information.
(31:06):
We watch these guys in preseason, we have depth charts,
we had access. We get none of that in college
and these rosters turn over fifty percent or more every season.
Very difficult to handicap every team. Unfortunately Colorado because of
all that they lost. I just I don't have a
lot on them coming into the season.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
That's almost a perfect segue into my final point, because
I can't let you go without mentioning Bill Belichick, who's
welcoming in forty four new players to his North Carolina roster. Now,
their schedule is far from daunting, but I have no
idea how they're going to fare this year. You get
the last word on this.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
I took actually I took a point and a half
a TCU back in like June, and now they're laying
three and a half. Now, I mean for you, yeah,
good for me.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
I mean I did that the I wouldn't be surprised
if TCU went in there and trucked him. I really
wouldn't be.
Speaker 6 (31:54):
I totally agree, but I think at this point, you know,
when you get movement like that on a game, I
think it's fair to come back on the other side
and take three and a half just for a small
you know, maybe half half of my original position on
North Carolina. I agree that it's going to be a while,
but you do see a lot of these teams, you know,
show you their best stuff in week one, and then
(32:15):
teams adjust, So it'll be interesting. I know, I have
absolutely no idea how they're going to look, especially defensively.
That's really where they lost the ton They lost the
best defensive player he's playing in Ohio State now, and overall,
they just they just lost a lot and their quarterbacks,
you know, a power or a group of five quarterbacks to Eulopez.
They got him from South Alabama and he even struggled
(32:36):
to win the job. So I just think they're a
team that you stay away from unless you get a
really good number. We got a good number on them,
you know, we've baited them. In week one, I went
under seven and a half wins. I think that's really
the only way to play it right now. It's just
to take the whole season.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Yeah, you're great stuff, research, impeccable, comprehensive knowledge, work ethic.
Really appreciate all you do and let's get into this
season a few weeks and confident play. I love to
get you.
Speaker 6 (33:01):
Back again, absolutely, Burnie, anything for your powd.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Good luck this year. Thanks Jered, It's Jared Lee Smith.

You know what, you love it? You can't leave without it, Nita,
can I the midnight hour from where I sit? In
(33:45):
nineteen minutes, the clock will strike midnight literally here in
Las Vegas, twelve midnight Pacific time, perhaps for you as well,
but for all of us, literally it would be the
midnight hour, which means you, the callers, get the last word.
Eight seven seven nine nine six three six nine eight
seven seven ninety nine one Fox Store worming up those fingers.
We've got three provocative topics tonight that I think will
(34:10):
raise the ire of many and should lead to some
colorful discussions. And remember, the most boring conversations are when
everybody agrees. So let's have a little fun here. Coming
up in nineteen minutes, I'm Bernie Frattle. We're coming to
you live from the Fox Sports Radio Las Vegas Studios.
Keep it locked right here, you listen to the Bernie
Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right back at
(34:35):
the Bernie Fraile Show, Fox Sports Radio, come to you
live from the Fox Sports Radio Las Vegas Studios. Here
in Las Vegas. That's the department of we Donecy department
twelve minutes away from the midnight hour from where I sit.
It's twelve midnight in Vegas. Literally clock strikes twelve from
where you sit. Perhaps the same with when where we
all sit literally the midnight hours of polls, which means
(34:59):
you get the last word eight seven, seven, nine nine,
six sixty three six nine eight seven seven ninety nine
one Fox Topic number one. How could it not be?
You heard what Eric Dickerson said this week. Now, I'm
not gonna play kill the messenger with Eric Dickerson. He's
a Hall of Famer, pretty buttoned up guy. If he
heard something, he heard something. But it's hard for me
(35:21):
to believe. And I've checked with my NFL sources too,
and so far I'm not really validating it. But allegedly,
allegedly somebody called somebody who said, somebody, don't draft shot
or Sander just because, and they didn't until they did.
Of course Cleveland did, But that's not the point. And
and by the way, I just have to ask myself
(35:43):
who benefits from that. We're dealing with a human being here.
You may not like him, you may think he's brash,
like staflawn as walth Raviolse Royce. He's a human being.
You're gonna deny a man restrain a trade because you
don't like him. You're gonna teach him a lesson. Who
benefits from that? The NFL sure as hell doesn't, and
Shudoor short as hell doesn't. So here's where I'm going.
Here's your first question. I wanted people to know the
(36:06):
fact that this is now out there in the ether.
Should there not be an investigation? Should Roger Goodell not
immediately commission some sort of panel to seriously look into
this and start talking to people, because if it didn't happen,
we need to clear it. If it did happen, we
need to know this can't happen. That's what I want
(36:26):
to hear from you. Shouldn't there be some sort of investigation?
By the way, if you believe it happened, you can
weigh in on that too. I don't want to get
too caught up on that or if it didn't happen,
but you know how I feel about it. Number two?
All right, Urban Meyer this week was behind a few microphones,
and apparently whatever was said or wasn't said got misconstrued.
(36:49):
But it had to do with the punishment or the
Michigan faced and Jim Harbaugh's show cause he's never going
to go back and coach in college anyway, so it's
kind of silly. But urban Meyer went on to point
out that back during tattoo Gate in Ohio State, the
head coach at the time, Jim Trussell, who lost his
job over it ended up landing with the Indianapolis Colts
(37:12):
as an assistant, was actually suspended for six games by
the NFL, who piggybacked on the firing of Jim Trussell
and the suspension, etc. Urban Meyer's premise was, well, back then,
it's kind of silly that he thought Jim Trussell would
be suspended in the NFL since tattoo Gate did not
(37:35):
give Ohio State any competitive advantage on the field, or
it can easily be argued, I don't care what you say.
If you're on defense and you know what's coming and
they're going right or left or to a runner o
a pass, there's no way. It can't help you unless
you're blind, deaf and dumb. But do I think it
Michigan should have be stripped of their national titlemill they
blocked and tackled better than everybody else. They won it. Now,
(37:58):
somehow it got misconstrued that Urban allegedly said that Harbaugh
should be punished. Urban denies that vehemanly, So, I don't
know if he said it or not. I don't think
he did. I couldn't find it anywhere. But let me
ask you people, you folks, do you think, in light
of this, the fact that that is now also out
in the ether, should perhaps the NFL look at Jim
(38:20):
Harbaugh and exercise some sort of punishment whatever that may be. Suspension? Fine,
I don't know, do I think so? No, I think
it's time to move on. I don't think it serves
any fruitful purpose to penalize the Los Angeles Chargers franchise
for missteps that they had nothing to do with. What
(38:43):
does that serve any fruitful purpose? So topic number one,
should or Sanders do you believe what Eric Dickerson said?
Not so much that, but the fact that it's out
there in the ether. Should there not be some sort
of investigation yesterday initiated by right Goodell. This is a
stain on the shield and everything. Number two Urban Meyer, Yeah,
(39:06):
he denied that he said Harbaugh should be punished, but
drew a comparison in a parallel to Jim Trussell and
Tretouogate when he had a six game suspension. Finally, this
one out of wreak some habit because right on, cue
the fake outrage, because Jake Paul's fighting again in November.
He's fight Jervonta Davis. He's gonna be a way different
all no boxing screwed. We're a joke. Look, people, gladiator sports.
(39:31):
Art society has been infatuated with gladiator sports since the
beginning of time. You're gonna watch, You're gonna pis simony,
You're gonna watch, and you're gonna talk about it. We're
gonna watch it. Don't act like this has never happened.
Back in nineteen seventy six, Muhammad Ali had an exhibition
match against the Japanese sumo wrestler named Antonio Onok. It
was a joke. By the way, Holly also once fought
(39:53):
Lyle Alzado in an exhibition. Yeah, Lyle Alzato could box.
It was pretty interesting. You probably find that one on YouTube.
So tell me what you think of Jake Paul. I
know you're all going to say you hate him and
you can't stand him on all that getting ring with him.
Then the bottom line is this, It's one of those
cannon fodder topics that our callers do so well with.
So Number one Schendor Sanders, is it true what Dickerson said?
(40:14):
I don't know if it is or it isn't, but
I do know this regardless, there needs to be some
sort of investigation. Do you agree? Number two Urban Meyer,
Jim Harbaugh, Jim Tressel, you heard the comments. What are
your thoughts? Should they look into Harbaugh? And then finally
Jake Paul Gervonte Davis in November, He's fighting a real boxer.
We'll see what happens, and you can all lose your
(40:35):
minds and getting fake outrage. I'm not accusing you of that.
Eight seven seven nine nine six six three six nine
eight seven seven ninety nine And Fox, let's hear from you.
It's the midnight hour and the Bernie Frattle Show. You're
listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Show keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Frattle.
(40:55):
We're comedy line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. Getting started will take after three am.
Pacific six a m. Eastern and yet we have three
topics eight seven seven nine nine sixty six three six
nine eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. You heard
what Eric Dickerson said. I'm not going to play kill
the messenger. I've made some calls on my own. We
(41:17):
have no idea if this happened. However, that's not the question.
The question the fact that this is out there in
the ether and you're dealing with the human being in
shud Or Sanders. Why hasn't Roger Goodell assembled a panel
yesterday to look into these allegations. This is very serious business.
Did they conspire to not draft Shudor Sanders? Well, of course,
until they did. Urban Meyer back in the news drawing
(41:40):
a parallel between Jim Trussell and Jim Harbaugh. He denies,
saying that Harbaugh should be suspended, But that raises the
question it happened to Trussell and his actions didn't lead
to any on field competitive advantage. Harbaugh's certainly did. I
say no, let's move on? What say you? And then
finally Jake Paul and Gervonte Davis to fake Outrage's back.
(42:02):
Can't wait for November when people lose their minds again,
give me your thoughts on the legend known as Jake
Paul Yep, it's time. It's midnight hour, all right, as always,
much like Ricky Henderson leads off the game of the
home run, Jim in Massachusetts from the Great Commonwealth of
Massachusetts joins us. Jim, welcome in looking forward to your.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Thoughts, Barnie, what Eric Dickison had to say. I think
there was a lot of truth to that. You know,
he should have been in round one or at the
latest round two, so there could be something to that.
But you know, Eric Dickison, he was a freak man.
I mean, he was what Magic Johnson was at a
(42:47):
guard position. He was at a running back position, played.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
At LA at SMU with Craig James in the nineteen eightyalliable.
Continue on. What I want to hear from you, Jim,
is regardless where these allegations are true, don't you think
the NFL needs to take to seriously and investigate this.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
I think I think good that's more more in his plate,
you know, dealing with you know what's come out about,
you know, all the stuff about what.
Speaker 11 (43:15):
He did to what's his name.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
He's got lawyers to handle that, But think about the
integrity of the league, Jim and the draft. I don't.
I just I'm having a hard time believe this happened.
But you need to get to the bottom of it.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
Yeah, yeah, maybe, But the integrity of the league with
all that's going on, man, with all of what those
players do and what and what's happened to Grooten and
stuff like that, integrity is out the window, Bernie, with that,
with that crowd, I think, you know, for that reason anyway.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
All right, thoughts on Irvan Myers comments and Jim Harbor, you.
Speaker 11 (43:47):
Know, who chance what Irvin Maya has to say?
Speaker 2 (43:50):
That clown? I mean, my god, you know, he resurrects himself,
you know, running his mouth like that.
Speaker 11 (43:56):
Nothing's going to happen to Harbor.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Hobboys over there with a child. He's going to make
them pretty good.
Speaker 13 (44:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
As long as you win. That's the funny thing about
sports ranting. If you're winning, no one cares about anything.
When you're losing, that's when everything starts running like Niagara
falls on you, you know, of course.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
And I don't think anything should I mean, does it
serve any fruitful purpose to penalize the Los Angeles Chargers
franchise for Peccadillos that they have nothing to do with. Finally,
Jake Paul, I'm just gonna put myself out there. I
will watch that fight. I watch all of his fights.
You got the Florida.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
Yeah, I'm gonna watch the fight too. I mean, He's
boxing is just the thing with people. They just love it.
It's something about America. We just love boxing. It doesn't
matter what you know, middleweight, heavyweight, like middle eight, all Americans,
they just they just love the game. So let let
him go, let him go, let's see what happens.
Speaker 1 (44:51):
I appreciate you, Jim No. As I said at the top,
we are as a society that's been infatuated with gladiator
sports since the begin a time. So to be smirchis
is kind of silly. Antonio Andnoki, a Japanese sumo wrestler,
got into the ring with Muhammad Ali in nineteen seventy six.
That was a farce. Ali's I said earlier, also fought
(45:12):
uh Le Alexaderlile Alzato in a exhibition. So bring it on.
Kyle and Vegas.
Speaker 11 (45:18):
Hey, what's up, Kyle, Uncle Barry, what's haddening?
Speaker 10 (45:22):
Then?
Speaker 11 (45:22):
I'm out here and joining this nasty humidity out here. Yeah,
it's crazy, This is ridiculous. Right now, let's get this started.
First off, let me let me say thank you Eric
Dickerson for compartment where many of us already knew that's
number one?
Speaker 1 (45:39):
And uh, can it be proven, though, Kyle? Can they
be proven? And should there be? Can you should there
be an investigation? Immediately?
Speaker 11 (45:45):
I'd say yes, I mean there should. I mean because
everyone kept gas lighting the fact that oh, he's not
a good enough quarterback all of a sudden, but all
but beforehand, it was oh, look at this kid, Look
what he does, Look how he moves. Can he translate
this over to the next level? And without giving him
the proper stance that they would, like you said, with
(46:07):
Jackson Dart or any of these other quarterbacks, you never
know what you have until they actually get to that
next level.
Speaker 6 (46:13):
So give him an opportunity.
Speaker 11 (46:15):
But if you're going to say that everybody was in khoops,
which you know kind of does feel that way, that
he went from a top ten pick to almost mystery
relevant doesn't do any good and it should be looked at.
So yeah, and with all these other NFL stars, who
were coming out the woodwork saying, oh, no, it wasn't
(46:35):
because of this, It wasn't because of that, you know,
not the name drop nobody. But look at the interview
with mister cc sellout Carter saying what he said and
the backlash that now he's having to try to walk back.
Do I agree with it, No.
Speaker 9 (46:54):
Not at all.
Speaker 11 (46:54):
Should North Sanamers should have been given the opportunity that
everybody else had and or drafted in the realm, or
put into the perspective of what everybody else was being
looked at as well, not looked at because of his
last name, but looked at because of the player on
the field and his player conduct off the field. I mean,
it was sick when when what was that the first
the first game of the season, of the preseason, they're saying,
(47:16):
looking at and walking through the tunnel with his entourage,
this is what the NFL was afraid of. And then
it's his teammates for crying out, Well, he's walking with
his teammates down the tunnel like every other you know,
professional team does. So that's the first thing. Second thing
I agree with the last caller, uh, mister Irvin, my
respectfully at several seats. We don't need your commentary any longer.
(47:39):
You're you're not even a good analyst. You're you're you
were a great head coach at one point in time.
But as far as I remember growing up in the
nineties and early two thousands and watching Ohio State football,
the trust trustle did his thing, And no, it is
not going the same It's not on the same plane.
So like you, Stavid, you're not gaining any practical advantages
(48:03):
by giving toroll Prior some free tattoos. Okay, that that
doesn't help you significantly win a game.
Speaker 9 (48:09):
What is he doing wrong?
Speaker 11 (48:11):
Plays on his fall or this is what they're gonna run,
this is what they're doing for the next set of plays. No, uh,
And I am excited for the Jake follow Javonte Davis fire.
I like Javonte Davis. I'll followed him for most of
his career, if not majority of it. The young man,
you know, has a talented history with with with some
(48:32):
good fight. So I mean, hey, if this is what
the new celebrity deathmatches, where we're doing celebrity boxing though
instead of clay animation, then I'm all forward. Let the
good Let the goodness keep all coming out, Bernie, as always, brother,
I love you, stay dry out here because this is
very very human love you show.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Appreciate it, appreciate the candor. Uh. Yeah, where there's smoke,
there's probably some fire. And I know people are falling
back on what's your door? If some some interviews and
blew some whiteboards and all that. Look probably Johnny Manziel
did the same thing. And I can tell you there
were first round picks that half the leagues had, half
the league had no interest in. So there may be
(49:12):
some smoke here. I just think there needs to be
an investigation. I do, okay. It just bothers me on
on multiple levels. If it's true, I'm not sure. I
just don't know. I don't I need more information. But
this is out there, and right right before the beginning
of a season. Uh, Andrew and Bakersfield Joint. Just welcome in, Andrew.
How are you doing, buddy?
Speaker 8 (49:33):
What's up?
Speaker 14 (49:33):
Bertie? How was it in Vegas today? One four?
Speaker 1 (49:37):
It was about one oh it was about one oh six.
But like you heard Kyle say, we have this stupid
thing they call monsoon season which never really seems to materialize.
We never get any rain. But just the thought of
it brings all kinds of humidity, so you feel like
you're in New Orleans for a couple of days. So
we had a little cloud cover in humidity, so it
was I don't want to say it was hot, but
I saw a thief steal in upcaps. He was using
(49:58):
other admits. Thanks, I'm here all week. Thanks, thank you folks.
Speaker 6 (50:01):
Go ahead and you got the floor.
Speaker 14 (50:03):
Yeah, it rained for a little bit in Bakersfield too,
so should do her. I think this is a blatant
black eye on the NFL, on the shield. And like
you said, the owners should want the league to benefit
because then they would benefit. And they missed that, I think,
(50:24):
and I guess hold that thought.
Speaker 1 (50:25):
And stay right here because if this happened, yeah, who
benefits from that?
Speaker 14 (50:33):
No one?
Speaker 1 (50:34):
So why would they do it? Why?
Speaker 11 (50:37):
Pride?
Speaker 14 (50:39):
Probably continue on?
Speaker 1 (50:40):
I mean, this just becomes a bit of an imponderib
continue on.
Speaker 14 (50:43):
Yeah, and then as far as the evidence, it's it's
there for everyone to see. He dropped to the fifth round.
But the second one, my question is did Jim trustle
Where did he get penalized in college or pro No?
Speaker 1 (50:57):
He after he was fired from Ohio State, he took
a job with the Indianapolis Colts and he was an
assistant and after the fact, the league decided to uh
suspend him for six games the first six games of
the season as a result of tattoo Gate. So urban
Meyer was drawing a comparison, and that got misconstrued as
people were implying that, yeah, that urban Meyer said Harbas
(51:19):
should be suspended, but he didn't. But it's out there.
Speaker 6 (51:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (51:22):
I think Ben Mallers said it succinctly when he said
he shouldn't be punished for something he did in in
the pro.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
Yeah. I mean, yeah, we're here, you're you're You're still
on the air.
Speaker 14 (51:39):
I think we got there, we.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
Go, so, hey, you're still on the air.
Speaker 14 (51:43):
Andrew, Yeah, I think if it happened in the in college,
there's no purpose to punish him in the pros.
Speaker 1 (51:54):
And I think urban Meyer, I know, he was on
with Colin Coward and backtracked, and that's essentially what he
implied that he doesn't think. But I don't know. Again
here here we are again talking about these off the
field issues. All right, Jake Paul and Germante Davis. I
don't make fun of Jake Paul Okay, he can actually box.
People don't think he can. They don't know what they're
(52:15):
talking about. There's a lot of pro boxers that have
turned him down. Is he a championship, top ten contender?
Probably not, but he's not a slouch eater. Your thoughts?
Will you watch the fight and what do you think
of the people's outrage on Jake Paul?
Speaker 14 (52:29):
Yeah, I probably won't watch the fight on Netflix. Oh
it's on Netflix. You will, It's possible. I'm still kind
of waiting to see if he's he's the real deal
or not so Jake Paul.
Speaker 1 (52:45):
All right, that's it. That's fair. All right, Andrew appreciate it.
Speaker 14 (52:48):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
It sounds like you're having some weather like we are
eight seven seven nine nine six six three six nine
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Let's hear from you.
The Midnight Hour is off and running with your three topics,
Shidor Sanders, was he blackballed? Well, he got drafted but
fell all the way to the fifth round? Urban Meyer,
(53:09):
you know what we're talking about there, and you've got
a situation now where Jake Paul is fighting again. Let's
go out to Vermont, the home of my buddy Arnie Spanier, Zach,
and Vermont joins the show, Zach, because he's your first
time waging in on the Bernie.
Speaker 10 (53:24):
Fratles Show, it's actually my second.
Speaker 1 (53:27):
Bernie got mad, we welcome back in.
Speaker 15 (53:31):
So I don't think Shador Sanders are getting blackballed. I
think this is kind of similar to the Coen kaf
Next thing, where you're gonna have a bunch of quarterbacks
who are going to play let's say marginal this year,
and then that's gonna be everybody's go to. I think
Doug Gottley's kind of preferred to that on his show
earlier this week too, all.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
Right, And at this point, until it's proven, I can't
side with that. I mean, I know it's an look,
and I would just say this and stand line Zat.
I've got a lot of NFL context. Nobody I ever
talked to believe Sudor Sanders was a first round pick.
The media perpetrated that. The media did, but nobody I know,
so didn't surprise me. You fell out of the first round,
(54:17):
falling away to the fifth. If you weren't surprised by that,
then you have been paying attention. Okay, go continue on, though,
But I'm kind of in your corner there. It's hard
to believe, but I think there should be an investigation.
Go ahead, Deck.
Speaker 15 (54:30):
I don't know if there should be an investigation. I
mean I think the NFL would want him in the
league if anything, you know, like look at like a
Marvin Harrison junior and a Sante Samuel junior, like they
like players you know who came from former players in
the league.
Speaker 1 (54:51):
Would see. But if Eric Dickerson is saying this, and
I'm not going to play kill the messenger, then he
sentenced from a very good source. Okay, how did this
origin who wanted this to happen? And listen, you've got
thirty two billion ore owners. I don't think they can
agree where to have lunch, so all of a sudden
they're going to agree. But if it happened, stranger things
have happened. Continue on.
Speaker 15 (55:13):
Yeah, I mean he also went to the same team
that signed to Shaun Watson too, So I guess maybe
there's a chance to get that one Maverick owner out there.
It's just gonna do weird stuff and it just happens
not to be Jerry Jones. You know, I'm still kind
(55:33):
of in that like if I'm proven wrong, then.
Speaker 13 (55:36):
So be it.
Speaker 15 (55:37):
But that's kind of like see the Shador standards thing
right now.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
Thoughts on Urban Myers comments this week, the.
Speaker 16 (55:45):
Urban Meyer thing.
Speaker 15 (55:46):
I agree with them on, like the tattoo thing, like
looking back the fact that those guys got hit that hard,
you know, with punishments for tattoos and seeing like players
sign basically what five million dollar contracts and college football.
Now it's a little ridiculous.
Speaker 10 (56:05):
But maybe Urban Myer's not the best messenger when it
comes to that type of thing, you know that. Yeah,
well I look at his you know, his Florida teams.
Speaker 15 (56:16):
You know, he had Aaron Hernandez from a team or two,
then he went to Jacksonville. Didn't exactly have a good
track record there, So maybe right message, wrong messon.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
Jake Paul, Will you watch the fight in November.
Speaker 15 (56:33):
I may not catch it. I don't always catch boxing fights,
but I don't think he's necessarily bad for the sport either.
He's getting eyes on it, and maybe boxing needs that
right now, especially with the rise of USC It's kind
of looked at is maybe a little bit of a
prehistoric practice as far as contact sports go.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
That good stuff buddy, don't be a stranger. By the way, folks,

You heard his comments. Was Shudor Sanders part of a
conspiracy to not be drafted? Who wanted this and why?
I don't know if it's true. I think there needs
to be an investigation. You can't just let this die
like it's going to die on its own. You dealing
(57:40):
with a human being here. Irvin Meyer speaks out, well,
your thoughts on that? And then Jake Paul, it's your
Vonte Davis coming up in November fake outrage or are
you like most of us have infatuated with Ladiator Sports
eight seven to seven, nine nine, six six three six
nine seven nine nine on Fox. The Man That Hour
Can continues on Bernie Fratto we are coming to your

come to live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios.
The midnight hour is off and running eight seven seven nine,
nine six six three sixty nine eight seven, seven, nine
and nine on Fox. That's here. From here we go
back out to the phones. Rick in Nashville joins us.
Speaker 12 (58:46):
Rick.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
Welcome, man, how are you.
Speaker 16 (58:49):
I'm fantastic for a Sunday morning. Now, mister Fratto, how
do you.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
Do doing well? Sir? Let's get your thoughts on these
three subjects? All right?
Speaker 11 (58:59):
Number one?
Speaker 13 (59:00):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (59:01):
You start with Shudor Sanders and Eric Dickerson's allegations.
Speaker 16 (59:06):
Okay, one hundred percent incorrect. Eric Dickerson, he got away
with murder at SMU and he skated from that when
the SMU program was given the death penalty. Correct.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
With apples well, I know about the trans am story.
I don't know that. Yeah, but continue on. You got
the floor.
Speaker 16 (59:32):
Thank you. So to me, Shudura Sanders is a fraud.
He didn't prove anything when he was at Jackson State,
and he didn't prove anything when he was at Colorado.
He was there because of his father and to have
his name and his number retired on the Buffalo's Hall
(59:54):
of Fame or whatever it is retired. It's totally fraudulent.
All I can do is just listen to what comes
out from the interviews from the NFL teams before the draft,
and all I heard was he was a terrible interview
and we don't want anything to do with him, one
(01:00:16):
team after the other after the other. So he falls
to the fifth round. So what does he do? Does
he humble himself? Absolutely not. He gets his Bentley and
he goes out and he gets two speeding tickets in
excess of one hundred miles an hour. Is this the
kind of person that you expect to lead your franchise
(01:00:40):
to their first Super Bowl championship?
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
Okay, hold that thought, Rick, hold that thought, because I
want to jump in. I stand the line of course. Fair.
We have this man at hour, so people can speak
their mind. But thank you. How does that equate to
conspiratorial collusion to where somebody says, don't draft them and
everybody agrees with it. I know for a fact. I mean,
(01:01:05):
I know baseball players who were drafted in the first
round that have the teams wanted nothing to do with
so not everybody was in on him. I get that,
But to engage in this proactive, again conspiratorial effort to
not draft him across the board? Do you believe that
took place?
Speaker 16 (01:01:24):
Absolutely not conspiratorial rumor conjecture, innuendo. I don't have any
time in my very short life on this planet to
deal with that kind of stuff. I deal with fact
and information that is put out there.
Speaker 1 (01:01:45):
That's why I need to see an investigation. Fair, because
you seem like a pragmatic guy. Look Fair, you have
strong opinions, but if there were sufficient evidence, your refutable
evidence presented, I'm guessing you would hear it. You see,
That's what I'm seeing. It either happened or it didn't.
I lean more in your corner that it didn't, But
I don't know, man, and I need to see some
(01:02:08):
kind of investigation. Thoughts on Urban Meyer who's in the
news this week and Jamar Ball.
Speaker 16 (01:02:13):
Okay, urban Meyer protected a woman beater that was his
assistant coach when he was at Florida and then at
Ohio State. And I have no place in my life
for people like urban Meyer who does that and then profound,
(01:02:35):
you know, puts out prophetic statements like what he said,
and I just tune him out. Urban Meyer is a
worthless person and a terrible human being in my humble opinion.
And it showed in his final stint as a head
(01:02:56):
coach when he was at Jacksonville and it was an
un mitigated disaster. And what happens Fox says, It's okay,
Urban come on back and be another talking head like
you were before, and we'll forget all of that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
It's interesting, Yeah, this seems to be the motif that
we're skipping right past what urban Meyer said and directly
his character. Finally, quickly, I'm going to watch the Jake
Paul Gravanty Davis fight your thoughts on the Jake Paul phenomenon.
Speaker 16 (01:03:31):
Jake Paul is a fraud. He's nothing but a social
media glam artist. And I'm I'll be sixty nine in December,
and I was living down in Miami in nineteen sixty
three and sixty four when Cashus Clay at Ali and
(01:03:56):
he was getting ready to fight Sonny Liston. My father
took me as a little tight and we went to
see Cassius Mohammed and a sparring and I got to
see in person the greatest of all time and what
a real boxer looks like. And Jake paul E. Ain't
(01:04:20):
it all right?
Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
But I appreciate you mean, don't be a stranger. We
like strong opinions. I respectfully disagree. He fought Tommy Fury
and Terry Fury whispered and he goes, no, dude, yeah,
I changed my mind about you. You didn't start fighting to
you're nineteen and you're better than people. But look, I
love the strong opigions. We don't all have to do
good stuff. Mike im san Antonio, welcome in. How are you?
Speaker 13 (01:04:43):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (01:04:43):
Hey, thank you for saving my call. Sure, So, I
literally I feel like I'm in the tilt zone because mister,
your standards thing is like if you're if everybody's just that,
like the NFS, just like every team doesn't actually care
(01:05:04):
about winning, and that there's some conspiracy that like all
the all the keys were like conspiracy against each other,
like kind of figure out not to win. It has
nothing to do with Sugar Sanders. Like you have real scalps,
you have real people. Uh Like looking at this guy
(01:05:24):
and he maybe should have been drafted higher, but at
the same time like maybe not, Like how how can
we stand here and be like we know for the
fact that should have been drafted higher, Like, uh, he
he went to a school that wasn't like really in
the thick of it per se, he did great, you know,
(01:05:45):
he wanted stuff. But at the same time, like, uh,
I can't.
Speaker 17 (01:05:50):
Say that I know better than them, And I don't
want to act like uh like I don't want to
all the football football reality, uh the fabric of up
all reality to just be ripped away because uh, people
just think like there's something.
Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
Do you think there's you make a lot of sense.
Do you think there should be an investigation? That's what
I'm getting at here. I mean this is a highly
charged allegation.
Speaker 11 (01:06:18):
In my heart, absolutely not, I think I think he
so here's the problem with shaduor Standers, And I'm like,
I feel bad about the coaches of the of the
Browns like because they have them. It is like nobody
want to plan because nobody wants to be made to
be the fool. All of them are afraid of losing
their job, so like nobody wants to actually play him
(01:06:41):
on the off sense that he's gonna suck. But at
the same time, like they they nobody has a false
actually play him base off of the fact that, like
they don't want to lose their jobs. Sanders is in
a terrible, terrible spot, and like I would like to
think that, like there's some person that's not on the ground,
(01:07:03):
some person in the NFL that has the has the
football mind be able to say this dude could play.
Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
Let's move on from that? Your your points are duly loaded.
That did urban Meyer and Jim Harball your thoughts on that, buddy?
Speaker 11 (01:07:17):
Honestly, I can't speak on it because I'm not a
big college guy, so I really can't. Like I don't
want to.
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
Let's move let's move off that. Will you watch the
Jake Paul fight.
Speaker 10 (01:07:30):
Jake Paul?
Speaker 11 (01:07:33):
I probably will? And uh I hate the uh honestly,
like the old timer like boxing guys that are like, oh,
this isn't like a real foot or real like this
side or the other thing. Boxing is dying. Boxing is
literally dying in front of your eyes, and like it's
never gonna be like what you what you thought it was.
(01:07:55):
And this is getting people interested in the sport. And
and and I'm I'm thirteen years old, so I'm like
white at that cuss of Like it really wasn't interesting.
The coolest fight I ever saw was Wilder and then
it was boring. I saw the fight like, uh, he's
at least bringing eyes to a sport that is America's passtimes,
(01:08:19):
and it's making people watch, so like I hate the guy,
Like I don't hate the guy, but like hate the
guy because he sucks at it. But at the same time,
like he's he's carrying the torch and nobody else is.
Speaker 1 (01:08:33):
Thanks a lot, man, don't be a stranger. Appreciate you.
Mike OC in Oklahoma. Welcome in OC. Is this your
first time checking in with Bernie Fowler show.
Speaker 9 (01:08:41):
Yes, sure it is.
Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
I'm good to hear from you.
Speaker 18 (01:08:44):
I'm going right now listen to your radio show. My
phone's on one percent, so I'm not playing music, and
I'm like this sounds interesting. I want to get macoll Okay, Yeah,
I want to talk about your dirty Oh so yeah.
I feel like Cleveland like he's a graveyard QB. Like
they drafted two hadsman winners in the Pies I don't know,
(01:09:05):
ten years or so, Manzelle and Baker.
Speaker 11 (01:09:09):
Neither one of them.
Speaker 18 (01:09:10):
Turned out to be pretty good while they were there.
So I feel like it might not be a setup.
But for him to go to Cleveland, I feel like that's.
Speaker 9 (01:09:17):
Just not like.
Speaker 18 (01:09:18):
I feel like Cleveland just doesn't develop QB's well, and
I feel like it's anywhere for him to go for
him to fail. I feel like a man, all the
owners to be like, Cleveland is a place we're not
gonna take them. But Cleveland's gotta draft him just so
he dis drafted. If that makes sense, because he didn't
get drafted, everyone will be like what's going on? Because
(01:09:40):
he definitely worthy of getting drafted for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
Sure, so I would say that. I would say this
so see if for any reason doesn't work out in Cleveland,
I think someone else will take a chance on him.
I can list list a long list of quarterbacks and
I who didn't catch on to their second or third team.
Speaker 6 (01:09:56):
Go ahead, did you watch the preseason game today?
Speaker 1 (01:09:59):
Yes, they did.
Speaker 18 (01:10:00):
So he was in all all game until the last
drive they took him out.
Speaker 11 (01:10:04):
Like, that's the one I said that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
I said that in my opening monologue.
Speaker 9 (01:10:09):
Go ahead, I'm sorry I wasn't Maybe I wasn't on then,
but like that's the one chest of him to prove
that he's the NFL QB to drive down the last
two minutes to go win the game, like, and then.
Speaker 18 (01:10:19):
They take him out.
Speaker 1 (01:10:20):
So I didn't get that.
Speaker 18 (01:10:22):
For you to say it's a setup, no, but all
they That's what I'm saying this. Cleveland put QBS in
the best place to know.
Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
They've started nine quarterbacks in the last year and a half.
Speaker 9 (01:10:31):
So your points what they gave Baker and old O'Dell
old Jarvon's. I don't think Manzell had two good receivers either,
Like I don't know too many good receivers on the
roster right now. Like, so I don't I don't know
if there's a set up.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
I think I'll just say this so see because we
can go around and say, look, I think there needs
to be an investigation. These are salacious allegations, okay, if
whether they're true or false, we need to find out
because someone who felt like talking about it. Your thoughts
on real quickly, Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh. You heard
what happened there.
Speaker 18 (01:11:05):
I didn't hear about that.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
I don't worry about that. Then you can just watch
Jake Paul fight Gervanti Davis.
Speaker 18 (01:11:11):
I'm a boxer, I am a I'm a big boxing fan.
Good mag Paul and Javonte. That's not on my schedule.
I'm don't worried about.
Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
Canelo and Crawford.
Speaker 18 (01:11:21):
Crawford like I like, I like watching boxers fight. I
feel like Tank should fight another box I want to
see Jake Paul fight someone in his weight class first,
like like Canelo or something like that, like but to
go down.
Speaker 9 (01:11:34):
I don't know what Tank.
Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
Yeah, it's good. Yeah, he probably like one thirty five.
All right, Hey, oh see, good stuff. Man, appreciate the energy.
Don't be a stranger. We do this every Sunday morning,
Saturday night into Sunday morning. Next up, another Broncos fan
joins us. Welcome in, another Broncos fan. Hello, there, you
(01:11:57):
got the floor. What are your thoughts on these subjects? Hello?
Going once, going twice? So it is not right here, Brandon.
Let's move on to uh if we can get him back, great,
but otherwise it's going to our Rick in Louisiana. Rick,
welcome man, How are.
Speaker 8 (01:12:17):
You hey, Bernie?
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
How are you?
Speaker 8 (01:12:19):
Thank you for taking a call. Always, I guess we'll
just start with the chadeur thing. I'm will say this much.
Last year Travis Hunter warnas Heisman he didn't throw the
ball to himself, So that in itself, But as far
(01:12:39):
as an investigation, no, don't do it. For in my point,
at this point, it just would be a formality, you know,
because everybody's saying something about it. But no, I don't
think it should be an investigation because I know that
behind the scenes people can have conversations that never make
it published.
Speaker 11 (01:12:59):
So no, spot on.
Speaker 1 (01:13:01):
Let me tell you if you don't think these teams
talk amongst themselves and compare notes, they compete between the lines,
but I guarantee you they reference each other all the
time based on team needing such But the reason real quickly,
and I'll get off this. The reason I want there
to be some sort of investigation is because this is
(01:13:22):
just too serious of an allegation to take a young man,
whether you like it or not, and hang him out
to dry and say don't draft him just because we're
gonna make a sample out of them. For what is
that going to prove?
Speaker 8 (01:13:33):
Continue on Rick, Okay, so any rate, I would say, no,
no investigation because at this point, I think it would
just be a formality.
Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
Okay, fair enough.
Speaker 8 (01:13:44):
Far as Urban Night, as far as Harbo Harbo, I'll say,
if you don't keep it at the college level, don't
penalize the Chargers. I agree with you on net. You
know that was something that happened, you know, when he
was at the college level, and I just if anything,
I mean, he may not want to come back to
college ever, but you could make it official you will
(01:14:07):
not be able to come back into the college rank
for game.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Finally, yeah, when you watched the Jake Paul Geronta Davis.
Speaker 8 (01:14:13):
Fight, No, just I think it's just entertainment. I mean,
but I give Jake Paul one thing. Credit. He's making
a lot of money from the fights, and I give
him credit. He found his niche in a in an
area that I think boxing needed something, and so you know,
(01:14:35):
he took advantage of it. So I can't I commend
him for that, all right?
Speaker 1 (01:14:40):
Rick, always thoughtful, always good, Enjoy Sunday, Rick Uh, the
ben At Hour will continue. James and Tampa and Jackson
in Washington will be up next. Eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox. I'm Bernie Frattle. We are coming your
life for the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Don't
go away. You're listening to the Bernie f Show on
Fox Sports Radio. I wonder if this song was perhaps
(01:15:10):
written for Chadors Sanders' final exhibition preseason game. I'm Bernie
Fraddlewick Company laugh in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Wrapping
it up on the midnight hour. H James and Tampa
joined us. Next. Welcome in, James, Hey.
Speaker 6 (01:15:30):
How you doing. Do you hear me all right?
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
I can hear you just fine, James, Thank you all right.
Speaker 19 (01:15:33):
He a pleasure. Thank you for taking my call.
Speaker 8 (01:15:36):
Thanks you very much.
Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
You bet.
Speaker 19 (01:15:38):
I just wanted to go.
Speaker 6 (01:15:39):
Through the list.
Speaker 19 (01:15:40):
I just got off work on just the list that
you had already named.
Speaker 8 (01:15:44):
I hope it's not.
Speaker 19 (01:15:45):
Redundant what other people have said, but you had like
four categories.
Speaker 8 (01:15:50):
So if you just name one.
Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
Three Sanders, we'll start with that. Because of Eric Dickerson's
allegations yet, go ahead, you know where we're going with that.
Go ahead?
Speaker 19 (01:15:59):
Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely, So I'll say this with him,
it's unfortunately what's happened to him, you know, this young man.
I'll say this is that you know, with his name,
you know, there was issues the media. You know, they
always want to since sinsilation, you know, everything has to
be essentialized, you know, where they're like, hey, he's going
(01:16:20):
to be a first round pick, second round pick. I
you know, I'm a quarterback, you know, just ar I'm
just sitting there on a couch. But I'll tell you what,
he had issues even when he was playing college, just
with his decision making and as we saw today even
the preseason taking big stacks and definitely stats are different
(01:16:41):
with running with the ball and whatnot.
Speaker 6 (01:16:44):
However, I know I always.
Speaker 11 (01:16:47):
Thought he would be a backup.
Speaker 6 (01:16:48):
I always did.
Speaker 19 (01:16:50):
And the thing is is now they're they're saying that, oh,
he's a distraction to even be a.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
Backup on a team. Now, trying to get to you're
you're not wrong. The point I'm trying to get to
here is because these allegations were made, should there be
an investigation?
Speaker 19 (01:17:07):
Yes, So I'll say this it's the billionaire White Boys Club.
They have enough money if they want to clear their names,
because we all know the owners are colluding, the teams
collude together with everything. So yes, absolutely, do investigations clear
it out, like it's going to be this tig of
a media story. And it's not fair to even him honestly, Yeah,
(01:17:30):
he has his dad's name, but at the same time
he deserves a fair shot as anyone else, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
And I'm an agreement, yes, And I'm having a hard
time believe you could get these thirty two knucklets to
agree on what to have lunch, much less do this.
So if you got nothing to hide, let's bring it on,
because you know, this is an allegation by a Hall
of Fame running back, one of the greatest of all time,
who swears he's got a great source. Urban Meyer and
Jim Harbor. Your thoughts on that deal.
Speaker 19 (01:17:58):
Okay, yeah, this one all boy?
Speaker 11 (01:18:00):
All right?
Speaker 19 (01:18:02):
The thing going back to even trestles. You know, I
was never Ohio State fans here. I mean, I'm a
Canadian right living in the States there. You know what's
crazy to me going back to college is that as
long as I've known before the transfer. Boral was coaches
could literally just leave a team and they would not
(01:18:23):
be in the middle of a year if they're promised something.
But if a player tried to leave, they would be
you know, a year would be taken off their career
if they transferred to another college team.
Speaker 1 (01:18:36):
You know before the transfer, had you had a red shirt,
you'd still get the year back. Yeah, one time.
Speaker 19 (01:18:42):
But the thing is is that you players would be
punished and coaches could get away with it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
Right.
Speaker 19 (01:18:48):
So Tressel with this tattoo gate or with the cars
and everything, it was maddening to me though. He goes
to he gets that whole thing, and then he goes
to I went to the cold right and and get suspended.
Speaker 12 (01:19:03):
Uh.
Speaker 19 (01:19:05):
And my thing is is people are in uproar and outrage,
and then nothing happens with Harbaugh, n Cuba, NFL. They've
always picked and choosed who they.
Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Handle down and say real quickly because I'm up against it, James, Uh,
do you have any thoughts on the Jake Paul Givonte
Davis fight.
Speaker 19 (01:19:25):
I do I just can I just I do? Can
I just try go ahead?
Speaker 1 (01:19:30):
Nail it? Go seconds?
Speaker 19 (01:19:33):
I just want to say about the even being a
Division I school. What they get away with where we
had to win the conference to make it all right.
The amount of things you can get away with there
going to a big school, I mean, the things that
they It's crazy that Trussell.
Speaker 6 (01:19:51):
Got hit with what he did.
Speaker 19 (01:19:52):
By the way, Jake Paul as a boxing. Love boxing.
I love that he's sticking it to Dana White UFC.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
All right, Bud, listen, I'm up against it. Thanks so much. James,
call in earlier next week. We'll try to get you
more time. We're gonna get to Jackson, We're gonna get
to another Broncos fan. We're gonna get to Steven Los Angeles.
You'd be the final three callers. You take the time
to call in before the midnight hour expires. I want
to get you on and Mark Mendin is not joining
us at one am, so if you don't mind hanging
on over our short recess here, we'll get you right
(01:20:24):
back on at the top of the hour. I'm Bernie Frattle.
Keep it locked and listen to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports. That's right, you heard the man. The
Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along. My name is
Bernie Fraddle. We're coming to the line from the Fox
Sports radio compound here in Las Vegas. Take you up
to three am Pacific, six am Eastern. Lots more to
(01:20:47):
get to, but we are continuing a little overtime on
the bed that hour. I want to sweeze into three
guys who took time to call in. Let's go out
to Washington. Jackson joins us. Jackson, thanks for hanging on.
Welcome in.
Speaker 12 (01:21:00):
Hey, thank you, Bernie, first time long time. I want
to start by saying that your lots colors text for
ridiculous Sitar Sanders and and Jack Paul. But I want
to come in on a fresh take on Cal Rawley.
I mean, we've got a guy out here with forty
(01:21:22):
seven home runs Batten two forty five point five war
He's he's he's our man for an MVP.
Speaker 11 (01:21:32):
I agree, that's.
Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
Funny, switch hitting heading catcher. He's going to hit fifty
home runs. And if you get to the playoffs, it'll
be because I am.
Speaker 12 (01:21:39):
Yeah, if we get in the playoffs, I mean it's
going to be uh it's I mean, we got Julia,
we got a good pitching staff. Bullpen is questionable, but
we got a good closer and Munias, and I think
that if they're able to get there, I mean the
Mariners are you know, never been to a World Series.
Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
No, they can't close in ninety five, but no cigar.
All right, good stuff, Jackson. Appreciate you hanging on. We
do this every Saturday night. You're in our same time
zone midnight pacifics Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:22:12):
Anything else, Yeah, I'd love to hear what you have
to think about Sam Donald and make McDonald. I think
the Seahawks have a really, really solid defense this year.
Sam Donald's the question mark. We've got a questionable offense,
but we've got good running backs and a good defense.
Speaker 1 (01:22:34):
All right, thanks for calling in. My thoughts on that
are I'm a big Mike McDonald fan. He did an
outstanding job in Michigan, did an outstanding job at the
Baltimore Ravens, and I think Seattle will have an above
average running attack. Sam Donald may not put up the
same numbers he put up last year, but that's a
competitive division and Seattle has a real live shot. I
(01:22:54):
think they're going to be a tough out at home,
and they're going to be the type of team that
doesn't beat themselves, So would not surprise me at all.
I'll see Seattle have a nine ten win season, but
you still got to go out and do it. Let's
try it again. Another Broncos fan, jo, I just we
had some fun issues a little bit ago. Are you
with us another Broncos fan?
Speaker 20 (01:23:13):
Yes, I am, Yeah, that was Michael. I cut it
off by accident.
Speaker 1 (01:23:17):
Sorry, it's all good, my friend, welcome back in. You
want to talk about your RS Sanders first, Oh, I
do you?
Speaker 20 (01:23:22):
And I want to presence it by saying, first of all,
I've been a long time see Buffalo fan, so I'm
a Suder fan. I think he has a place in
the NFL. As far as your question, well, let me
say this before I address the question. I would love
it being a Broncos fanel so if somehow Cleveland cut him.
(01:23:43):
I don't know how many quarterbacks the Broncos are going
to keep for the regular season, but I would love
it if somehow they could sign him onto the practice squab. Okay, Now,
as far as the collusion aspects, I'd say possibly and
probably I should be investigated. Yes, would anything come of it?
Probably not? But yeah, if if it's a collusion situation, yeah,
(01:24:06):
wouldn't surprise me, you know, and he should have never
have fallen to the fifth round, never second round at most.
So yeah, I think there could be collusion or I
think differs, you know, could have his sources that are correct.
Moving on to the Trustle thing, and as far as
with Horrible, I don't think Trustle should have been suspended
(01:24:27):
by the NFL for something he did in college, So
therefore I don't think Harbaugh should be suspended for something
that happened in college. They're both in the NFL. They
should not be divving out fines, let alone suspensions. Jack Paul, Oh,
go ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:24:47):
No, I can't disagree at all. Could you doue one
with Jake Faul?
Speaker 20 (01:24:51):
Jake Paul, I'm raally not familiar with. I don't know
if it's a sanctioned fight, if it's a pay per
view fight.
Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
Was it exc it's not sanctioned yet, but the fights
started out that way ended up being saying people don't
take him serious. I disagree he's better than people think.
You got the last word.
Speaker 11 (01:25:09):
Well, I tell you what.
Speaker 20 (01:25:09):
As far as Jakebawll, that's fine. As far as if
it's like pay per or something, I'm up on Netflix
it's not a championship flight, so no, I wouldn't pay
for it. But that's fine if people want to. Hey,
it's entertainment. Everybody is entitled to their entertainment.
Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
One way or the other.
Speaker 20 (01:25:26):
They enjoy it. Hey, good for them.
Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
Hey, good stuff, man. I'm glad you called back. Don't
be a stranger, and I will say this quickly about
your door. I don't know what's going to happen Tuesday.
I don't think it serves the Browns well to keep
four quarterbacks. None of my business. If he ends up
on the practice squad. Remember there's ninety guys. You keep
fifty three and seventeen on the practice squad. If he
ends up on the practice squad, someone else can snap
(01:25:49):
him up. The Raiders claim they liked him, well, guess
who went down to night. They're backup quarterback with the
broken wrist, Aidan O'Connell. Look shame on me for even
bringing this up, because none of this is going to happen.
But there you have it. If he ends up on
the practice squad, I believe someone would take a take
a flyer on him. I really do, all right, Steven
(01:26:10):
Los Angeles, you got the last word. Tonight on the
midnight hour.
Speaker 13 (01:26:14):
All right, Bernie, I have spoken with you before ye
and we've talked about boxing. So I'm going to go
through everything quickly in order to get to Jake Paul
mister door issue. I agree with the previous caller. I
think it's entirely possible that collusion was involved, but I
(01:26:37):
don't think it will be ever able to be proved. Okay,
the Urban Meyer issue and the Harbaugh issue. Urban Meyer,
in my opinion, is a poisonous stain on the sport
of college football, so I don't pay any attention to him.
(01:26:59):
Harbaugh I don't think should be penalized in any way
that would affect the Chargers. Fair So that's what I
have to say about that.
Speaker 9 (01:27:10):
Jake Paul.
Speaker 13 (01:27:12):
I have a first cousin that fought Muhammad Ali in
the nineteen sixties. His name was Eddie Magen. When I
think about people like Ernie Sabers, Kenny Norton, and people
such as that, until Jake Paul is facing people of
that ilk, I can't take him seriously. He's just a circus,
(01:27:34):
a circus.
Speaker 1 (01:27:34):
Act, all right, fair enough. I appreciate anything else, Steve,
that's it. Good stuff, man, don't be a stranger. He's
not a heavyweight. And you mentioned some of the greats
here ke I mean Ken Norton, Ernie Shavers, mohamm Ali.
Not many guys can be mentioned in those sentences. Look,
I took up boxing years ago, trained very hard for years,
(01:27:58):
finally had three unsanctioned fights and won them all. I'm
not in training anymore. I have a respect for what
Jake Paul has done. I agree you really can't take
him serious, but because he's not being allowed to really
or ASTs to fight rank fighters, and most of them
(01:28:19):
don't want to waste their time with him. But you don't.
Until you get the ring, you don't know what happens.
Everybody thought Tyson would kill Hi. Everybody thought, you know,
the NBA player would be you know, he's not a
ham and egger. Okay, but he's not. He's I understand,
it's somewhere in between. But I think the man can
fight better. You realize, not sure one hundred percent about
his footwork or his defense. He'd be in trouble against
(01:28:40):
you know, a top five guy, but he told his
own for a couple of rounds. I just don't think
he's a big cotch potato like everybody makes him out
to be. And I get that it's an inefna to
a lot of people, but I don't think it's a
stand on the sport or anything of that nature. I
want to and by the way, later in the show,
just want believe it or not. Back in May, about
(01:29:05):
a month after the draft, when shud Or Sanders fell
to the fifth round, there was a fan who filed
a lawsuit. This is he actually filed a lawsuit against
the NFL over the draft day free fall of shud
Or Sanders. We're going to talk about it a little
bit later. And then he even filed an emergency motion
for targeted discovery. He wants to see emails and text messages.
(01:29:28):
So there's there's something to this. I just don't know what,
but you know what else, there's something to holdouts in
the NFL, and I haven't. I've intentionally avoided the Jerry
Jones Micah Parsons saga this week. There's nothing left to
talk about. He's either going to get signed or he's not.
(01:29:51):
He can scrub his account, he can say it doesn't
want to be a cowboy anymore. I think Jerry is
willing to pay. I don't know what's going on there.
I don't care anymore, but you know what, it leads
me to wonder, and I looked into this quite a bit.
Is historically what happens to players coming off the holdout?
Because it's really all over the map. What is actually
(01:30:14):
the impact? And by the way, the Cowboys have experienced
with this two years ago, Cee Lamb in twenty twenty
three led the NFL and receptions with a buck thirty
five and he had a baffle year, great year. Final
year of his rookie deal, he was dual monster contract extension.
Instead he held out, he got paid, negotiations dragged, he
(01:30:35):
missed the offseason program, miss training camp, but then he
got the lucrative extension about ten days before the Cowboys opener,
and he had a setback. In twenty twenty four, he
had respectable numbers, but they were down across the board
about thirty percent. This is what's interesting because now people
are saying, well, all, if Michael comes back or he's
(01:30:56):
gonna be able to play a week, why how effective
he's going to be. I don't know. Jamar Chase had
the same situation the following year, staged to hold In
reported to camp, didn't report to practice practice. Then with
the season on the cusp, he started practicing right ahead
of the opener. Wins the twenty twenty four Triple Crown.
He led the league in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
(01:31:18):
And then the Bengals finally gave Chase a contract extension
early this offseason, highest paid non quarterback in the NFL
history at the time he signed it. So we don't
know what's going to happen with Michael Parsons. Historically, the
performance of players coming off a holdout is varied. Like
I said, you can go back to nineteen ninety three, EMMITTT.
Smith missed all the training camp, in the first two
(01:31:40):
games of the season and in that contract dispute. That
season he joined the team He won the league MVP.
Dallas won their back to back Super Bowl. Dreo Reeves
held out in twenty ten with the New York Jets,
followed up by winning first team All Pro guard Zach Martin.
Similar situation tiers with the Cowboys flip side six years ago.
Iseki Elliott, he held out for a new deal in
(01:32:02):
twenty nineteen, got off to a very slow start never
fully rekindled the magic of his first three seasons. After
two Pro Bowl seasons in three years, Melvin Gordon held
out with the Chargers back in twenty nineteen that stretched
into the season let his It led to his worst
season since his rookie year, and although the forty nine
(01:32:22):
er pass rusher Nick Bolsa well, he turned an estellar
year back in twenty twenty three after his camp holled out.
He admitted halfway through the season that missing camp very
much impacted his ability to reach his full potential. So
it's all over the map. Now here are here in
twenty twenty five. The season is damn near hours away.
(01:32:42):
And you got some bright studs, Trey Hendrickson, you got
Terry McLarin. He's been medically cleared. He's going through a
ramp up period. But nothing seems to have changed in Dallas.
The Cowboys are holding firm in their position that there
was a handshake agreement that was reached in March. And regardless,
Michael Parsons is under contract, by the way, which he is.
If he just shows up and plays this year, he'll
(01:33:04):
get twenty four million dollars. And now Jerry canfranchise over
the next two years, and so over the next three
years he'd still make about eighty million, but he wants
more fair enough. He is an elite player and a
good guy, And I don't get what Jerry does this
every year. I gave you my theories a few weeks ago.
Maybe he's afraid if he signs a guy he gets
(01:33:24):
hurt before camp, and he's worried that just happened recently
with one of the other players in the NFL. Maybe
he likes to go onto his money. Maybe he likes
to be the center of attention. I don't know. Maybe
all the above usually ends up overpaying these guys at
the end and it ends up working out. This one
feels a little weirder because something's going on with the agent.
But even that doesn't make sense to me because David
(01:33:45):
Mullagetta represents other Cowboys other than Michael Parsons. So what
the hell in the wide wide world of sports is
is going on here? Coming up, We're gonna debut a
new segment. We've got Fantasy Finals with Brandon our Fox

Speaker 1 (01:35:24):
All right. Back of the Bernie Final Show Fox Sports Radio.
We are thirty seven minutes away from the Dance Sensation
sweep of the nation. What kind of brand new fool
you followed by? What my name? The NFL preseason is
now in the books. A week from Thursday, September fourth,
It all starts for real, which means you're getting your
(01:35:47):
fantasy draft rankings ready, deciding do I take a chance
on rookies, how do I want to with some of
my roster? What do I do? Well, it's that time.
We're going to have the perfect segment for you around
this time every Sunday AM between here and the end
of the NFL football season. We're calling it Fantasy Files
(01:36:11):
with Brandon.
Speaker 3 (01:36:14):
Fantasy Files with Brandon Deutsch, your go to fantasy football segment.
Speaker 1 (01:36:20):
I got one one, all right, Brandon. So this will
vary from week to week. But I'm guessing most drafts
have not taken place yet. Is that fair?
Speaker 4 (01:36:30):
That is correct, Bernie, most drafts, I mean for most leagues.
I would think you would wait to make sure no
one gets hurt during preseason, hopefully that last week. But
I've noticed a trend that there are some people that
play in four or five fantasy leagues, and obviously they
can't have them all the same weekend. So I actually
(01:36:50):
have one today later today as we as we speak,
because I'm in about five or I'm about six leagues actually,
so the first one I have today, but most people
will not be drafting until next weekend. So today part
of the big thing is focusing on the best draft strategies, Bernie, draft.
Speaker 1 (01:37:09):
Strategies in this real quickly, Brandon, in your draft that's
coming up later today. Is it a twelve team league?
How many teams? And where are you in your draft position?
Speaker 4 (01:37:18):
Yeah, so it's a twelve it's twelve teams. It's half PPR.
So I'm a big fan of PPR, like just full point,
but this one's half PPR. So obviously guys like Derrick Henry,
you know, true rushers Ashton gent He are probably a
little a tad higher than they would be versus like
a Chase Brown or a Bucky Irving, guys that catch
(01:37:39):
it a lot of passes. I have the tenth overall pick,
so you know, I hope none of the league mates
are listening to the national radio right now and hearing this,
but I plan on hopefully having Malik Neighbors or Christian
McCaffrey fall there and if neither do, I don't mind
taking Derrick Henry there, especially in half PPR. Honestly, I think.
(01:38:00):
I mean, he's I know, the age is a thing
and it is a factor we have to consider, but
we also have to consider there's never been a six three,
two forty five running back, right, that's this elite.
Speaker 1 (01:38:12):
No, No, that's it's it's very true. And he's gonna
get the ball in the goal line, right, and he's
gonna get get carries. What I always I always hated
drafting one, two or three because let's say you're okay,
so you're drafting tenth, so I guess, and it's a
snake draft. It's gonna come back around. So you get
like the tenth of the fourteenth pick or the tenth
of the fifteenth pick, right, yes, correct, So here's a
(01:38:35):
question for you, Uh, I guarantee you well, I don't
know if you might barely just missed out on the league, neighbors,
but you could still get a Nico Collins or a
mon Ross Saint Brown. And then coming back around, do
you go for a running back or do you go
for another receiver like a Pookin a kul who might
be there.
Speaker 4 (01:38:52):
So It's a great question, and I've gotten this question
a lot as well online And if people ask, well,
why can't I draft Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson round two?
Or why can't I draft Brock Bauers or Tray McBride
in round two? And I just always see it as
it's substantially tougher with the value right now that we
(01:39:13):
have at quarterback in late round and tight end. I
feel like with Tyler Warren round seven or eight, it's
substantially tougher to build a team unless you go running back,
wide receiver or wide receiver running back the first two rounds. Like,
I feel like you need an elite one of both
to truly contend for a championship.
Speaker 1 (01:39:31):
And I think you're in an excellent position to get that, yes,
because you could. I mean, I'm just throwing out names here,
but I believe Anico Collins or aman Ross Bron will
be there. Then coming back around, you might grab a
Brian Thomas or an Ashton Genty or Derrick Henry. But
(01:39:51):
here's a or even a Chase Brown. Here's the question
for you, Ashton Genty, what is your philosophy? I'm drafting rookies,
I was always scared a draft rookies.
Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
Yeah, I mean it's a it's a fair question, right,
Like Jamiir Gibbs and b Jeon Robinson were great as rookies,
So there there is you know, it's obviously Saquan at
a historic here when he was a rookie, So there
are some exceptions. I think Genty does fit into that exception.
I also would pair him with Amari and Hampton for
the Chargers and then a super run heavy offense. Jim
(01:40:23):
Harball loves to run the football and Ajie Harris says
a bunch of mileage on him. You know, he's been
in the league of a decade, so I don't think
that's going to be as much of a timeshare as
some people may think. So in that backfield. And then
you also got Trevion Henderson for the Patriots. Now, one
thing I'll say about Genty is I actually like this
Raiders line more than most people. I think Colton Miller
is a baller. I think Charles Grant from William and
(01:40:45):
Mary could have a substantial role right away. He was
one of my favorite tackles in the entire draft. I
wanted the Niners to take him as a dire Niners fan, Bernie,
and they took him to pick before us. I picked
ninety nine, so I was pretty heated about that. And
they have a better quarterback. They've a guy who can
act throw the ball down field, So that's going to
open up so much for Ashon Genzy. Not to mention
Jacoby Meyers possibly the most underrated receiver in the league. Well,
(01:41:08):
I also love in fantasy, but that's a whole that
might be in the sleeper topic that we have. But
Ashton Genzy overall, I'm not scared at all. I mean,
I wouldn't love him to be my first round pick,
but if he's my second round pick, I have a
substantially higher chance of winning my league because that is
a true arbi Wi.
Speaker 1 (01:41:24):
Here's a quick question for you, because I know Pete
Carroll also likes Zamir White and he also likes Raheem Moster.
So the thing that always scared me about drafting rookies
just me talking. You really don't know the workload you're
gonna get until the season starts, and might they start
to share carries by committee. I know they don't want
to burn Ashing Genty out. I know he's Number one
(01:41:45):
on the death chart, but you just don't know what
you got. And Zumir White and Rachee Moster might steal
some of those carries.
Speaker 4 (01:41:53):
Yeah, And you know, Raheem Mostard has had an illustrious career.
He was great with the forty nine ers, most famously
for that almost two hundred yard game he had in
the NFC Championship. I remember that like it was yesterday.
And then for the Dolphins, he was really good for
that year too. I mean, let he tied McCaffrey for
the year in touchdowns and he was in his thirties
(01:42:13):
by that point, so you know he is a bit older.
The speed is still there. Zamir White is is. I
just don't know if he has the burst that Ashton
Jenz has. He does not, And I think yes and
go ahead, yeah, no, I like him, Bernie.
Speaker 1 (01:42:28):
I I was hot on defending him and said, I'm
always concerned that when you have your bell cow, but
then all of a sudden he comes off the field
for a blow or two, and you other guy, you're
down at the seven yard line and you're losing on
a on an opportunity.
Speaker 4 (01:42:45):
I guess, right, yeah, yeah, I mean sameer. White I
always thought would would have been a great pick last year,
and you know, it ended up not working out. Like
he can't be right on everything. I wasn't telling people
that draft z a mirror white like he was, you know,
the second of Christ. But I was saying, you know,
I think he could have a pretty good year in
the Raiders backfield, and it just didn't work out. You know,
(01:43:06):
it was more of a committee. And I think, you know,
he stoles a lot of talent. He's super young, and
I just don't know, I just don't think he has
that burst. I think Genty is the perfect mix of
burst and being able to run through the tackles and
being a true you know, Marshaw Lynch esque running back
that Pete Carroll loves. Right, I'm not saying he's Marshaw Lynch.
(01:43:27):
I mean, beast Mode is in a tier of his own.
But if you were to talk about, okay, a guy
who can run through the tackles, a guy who has
the explosiveness to have those cutbacks and you know create
you know, miss tackles and everything. I mean he has that.
So I mean I'd be I'd be completely shocked if
he's not taken at least sev seventy five percent of
(01:43:48):
snaps in Week one.
Speaker 1 (01:43:50):
Agreed, and we'll see what happens. It's just it's an unknown.
Now you mentioned quarterback. It's my belief and this has
been this way for a few years, that you're going
to get some kind of scoring just about out of
every quarterback. So because there are thirty starting quarterbacks, you
can easily find twelve that are going to put up numbers. Right,
(01:44:11):
so we're going to be better than others. But what
is your philosophy? What are the real positions where a
fantasy championship is really one more so than just quarterback?
And also in what rounds do you think are the
most pivotal as you get into the middle rounds, which
are the most pivotal rounds in your view, to where
you really make hey and separate yourself from your competitors.
Speaker 4 (01:44:34):
Yeah, I mean I think Round five is a pivotal round.
There's I know there's multiple parts of that question, but
I'll start with that because I think it's important for
people that are drafting. They need ace round five. And
to me, there's only three or four good picks in
round five, and they're all but three of them are rookies.
That is the death round, as I call it, because
it's got DeVante Smith, which is like cryptocurrency when you
(01:44:55):
draft him. Great player in real life, but in fantasy football,
you don't want guys that are getting thirty points one
week in zero the next. You want a little more
consistency than that. In an Eagles run heavy offense, that's difficult.
Xavier Worthy's another guy that I know a lot of
fantasy analysts are in on, but I'm actually out on.
And here's the reason why his ADP is too high.
He only finishes the wide receiver thirty three last season,
(01:45:18):
and Rashie Rice missed the whole year pretty much. Now
Rashi Rice is we don't know how much time he's
gonna miss him, assuming it's between four and six games.
But they got Jalen Royals, who I liked out of
Utah State. They have Richard Smith who can catch some
passes out of the backfield. Travis Kelce's very good, and
I just don't know if the wide receiver twenty seven
(01:45:39):
position or twenty six depending on what platform you use,
that he's going at at the wide receiver average draft position,
if that's gonna be good because if he couldn't and
I know he was a rookie, and don't get me wrong,
the speed you can't teach. But if you're telling me
an entire season without arguably a top ten to fifteen
receiver when he's healthy, and Rashi Rice based on production
(01:45:59):
and target share, for talking fantasy football, is only going
to miss four games, let's say six, Max, you're telling
me he's in finish higher than wide receiver thirty three
when he missed the entire year last year or she
Rice and he still couldn't do it. So that's another
guy I'm actually avoiding there. And there's just a bunch
of those guys, you know, and.
Speaker 1 (01:46:16):
And there's a bunch of mouths to feed in Kansas City,
including Gravil.
Speaker 4 (01:46:20):
Yes, so I mean I'm looking at I'm looking in
those pivotal rounds a guy like Teteroa McMillan of the
Carolina Panthers. Who's I mean pluthoro of targets a rookie.
Speaker 1 (01:46:30):
I think I would not be afraid of.
Speaker 4 (01:46:32):
Drafting a hundred percent. I mean, Bernie, I mean there's
a plothora of targets there. I mean they're they're looking
to trade Adam feelin. It's no secret. Even his wife
thinks he's getting traded, you know, like at this point, yes,
and you know, nothing said in Stone and they love
him there and he's had a great career as well.
But you know, you have Xavier Lagat who didn't really
look that good as a rookie, and you have Hunter Renfro,
(01:46:54):
you know, who hasn't played pivotal football since he was
on the Raiders pretty much, right, and it's been a
couple of years.
Speaker 20 (01:47:00):
Though.
Speaker 4 (01:47:00):
I like Hunter Renfro. There's so many targets right there
for him. And Bryce Young improved as the season went on, right,
Dave Canalis, It seemed like his offense got going as
the season went on.
Speaker 1 (01:47:12):
He did wonders with Bryce Young exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:47:14):
So I'm just saying improving quarterback. This is a rookie
wide receiver that can do a lot of damage. And
George Pickens is another guy I love there. And I
know a lot of people will say, well, Pickens has been,
you know, kind of a head case and it's never
been about talent, and that may be true, but what's
also true is he hasn't been in an offense like
this Dallas offense, And I know they have new coaches
(01:47:34):
and everything, but well, you can't teach his talent. Dak Prescott,
regardless of what you think in the playoffs, is an
excellent fantasy quarterback every year. Healthy over there time.
Speaker 1 (01:47:43):
A little bit too. Yeah, which kind of leaves to
my next question, and this is, yes, Dan a je
dual threat quarterbacks, which I'm not a fan of in general,
but if you're a fantasy guy, oh my god, that
can win you league. I wouldn't draft justin fields with
anybody's money. But all he's gotta do is take off
on one run and you might win your league that week.
What is your take on running quarterbacks and how you
(01:48:04):
factor that into who you want starting for you every
week and your fantasy team.
Speaker 4 (01:48:08):
I think it is about a mixture. I want a
guy who has a lot of weapons out there, like
a Dak Prescott, and that This answer is part of
the question you had before too about where do you
wears the best quarterback value? I think it's in round
ten through twelve because Caleb Williams and Dak Prescott are
two guys I'm looking at that have a ton of weapons,
that can run a little bit but can also pass.
(01:48:30):
For a lot of touchdowns and have good play callers
there because you know, Dak Prescott has Seede Lamb man
George Pickens, Right, that's going to be a huge upgrade.
Take pressure off of Seed Lamb. That's why George Pickens
will have a big here, right. Same can be said
for Caleb Williams. He doesn't even have to be as
special as we projected him to be. Alious to do
is get the ball out quick to four or five
(01:48:50):
good playmakers and he has an excellent fantasy season, right,
So I think you need a little a mixture justin
fields is a little dangerous. The rushing up side is
so tantalizing. Th if he plays seventeen games, he finishes
as a top twelve quarterback minimum, you know, just on
the rushing. I mean, he could throw fifteen or sixteen
interceptions and have ten or eleven passing touchdowns. But if
(01:49:10):
he runs for close to one thousand yards, it's a
complete it's a game changer. And that's why JJ McCarthy
people like late. Now I'm not saying I do, but
people like JJ McCarthy because he can run a little
bit and he's in a good offense. Right.
Speaker 1 (01:49:23):
But we're back to the rookie thing again. And the
nice thing about to tonight's discussion is this will be
the only week we get to do this, because after
this it'll be talking about lineup changes and injuries and
things like that. One of the things I want to
bring up tonight is fantasy owners have to account for
that bye week. And I can't tell you over the
years how many people I've seen caught with their pants
down when a bye week rolls around before the season.
(01:49:46):
How much do you factor in your draft strategy in
the bye week?
Speaker 4 (01:49:51):
You know, Bernie I as long as it's not a
quarterback or you know, if you have three or four
guys with the same bye week, it's a problem. But
if it is only one guy missing one week, or
two guys and there you have replaceable depth there. I
don't mind it. I don't factors.
Speaker 1 (01:50:10):
Why I asked the question, because that can happen. There
are some weeks where several teams are off. It varies,
and guys don't take that into consideration. You realize, oh
my god, I got two of my receivers and one
of my running backs out this whole week. I got
to go in the trash heap and pick up a
player and no one's going to be out there to
help me.
Speaker 4 (01:50:27):
Well, also you could you could look at a triple
stack with Dak Prescott, Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens and
you just pick it happened punt the week that you
know they're on by and you just take the loss.
I've seen people actually succeed with that strategy where triple
stack works, like Jamar, Joe Burrow and T last year.
Speaker 1 (01:50:45):
That's another question I was going to ask you, because
over the years, some people think it's overrated. Some people
think it's necessary where you have the proverbial hookup right,
like a match staffer in a Puka Nakua r yes,
or a jured golf and a min on Ross State Brown.
How big are you on that?
Speaker 4 (01:51:02):
I'm huge on it. I think it wins fantasy leagues.
I mean, I can't tell you how many people won
Fantasy leagues last year with Jamar Chase in Joe Burrow
I mean right, I mean I.
Speaker 1 (01:51:13):
Say that is because over the twelve over the well,
I guess you've only got what fourteen weeks in the
playoffs start is.
Speaker 4 (01:51:20):
At yeah, yeah, no one's playing week eighteen, So right.
Speaker 1 (01:51:23):
So there you go. So here's the deal. Rather than
try to consistently score a lot of points every week,
you just have those four or five breakout weeks and
those are the wins that I think they can push
you over to get the playoff spot. Follow me, cumulative
amount of points over the year.
Speaker 4 (01:51:40):
Go ahead and no, And it's a It's a great
point because if you take a guy like Derrick Henry
right or and Lamar Jackson and have kind of a
stack in that sense of quarterback running back, then you
go run into the problem of Okay, if they have
so many wins and they won their division, do they
not play in Week seventeen, which is a championship round?
Speaker 2 (01:51:57):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:51:58):
If they lead you there, that's another point. And part
of the beauty of the Bengals last year is they
were fighting for a playoff spot, right, and they kept
playing and playing and playing and playing, and they couldn't
lay off the gas pedal. Right, So that is very
That's way tougher to project because it goes into win
totals and all that, but it absolutely matters. My favorite
this year, a sneaky one is Caleb and Roma Dunza.
(01:52:20):
I think Roma Dunze is going to take a huge leap.
Loved them at Washington. I think DJ Moore is good,
but I think Rome is going to be the one
this year. It's kind of my hot take game breaker.
Speaker 1 (01:52:29):
And yeah, he was a little quiet last year, but
we'll see what happens. No, the potential is there. So
the last one, and this was more of a philosophical
question as well, what are your thoughts on drafting backups
intentionally because you're gonna need them? Here's what I mean,
A true story my buddy Kevin Dudeck years ago. This
is when I was in Detroit nineteen ninety nine. He
(01:52:51):
drafts Trent Green as his starting quarterback for the Rams,
but as was his style, he always drafted the backup
in the starter went down because he wanted that same
system as an insurance.
Speaker 4 (01:53:05):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:53:05):
Well, sure enough, Trent Green, as you know, went down
in the preseason and some kid by the name of
Kurt Warner stepped in and Kevin won the league hands
down that year with the greatest show on turf. Your
thoughts on drafting backups real quickly?
Speaker 4 (01:53:17):
Yes, it's very important. The handcuff is super important for
all positions. I think less on the quarterback. But if
you're taking Matthew Stafford, it's a little dangerous this year
because it was back injury. But there's no point in
taking Jimmy Garoppolo at that point for ourbs though. Christian McCaffrey,
Brian Robinson, like Jordan Mason, Aaron Jones, guys like that.
And I like will Shipley a lot this year because
Saquan had like four hundred touches last year and that
(01:53:38):
screams disaster the following season if you look at history.
So I like will Shipley late as a handcuff to Saquon.
Speaker 1 (01:53:44):
All right, great stuff. There you have it. Folks, are
Fantasy Files with Brannon every Sunday morning one twenty Pacific
time for twenty Eastern. Gets you ready for Brandon will
help you if you're having issues deciding who to put
in your lineup, things of that nature, who the hot
trends are, and what defined so you can when your
(01:54:05):
fantasy league. We'll do this every single week. Coming up.
Who's my surprise team in the NFL this year? Well,
I actually have my eye on one. I don't know
if they all agree, but I got a funny feeling.
I like the coach. I like their team and I
think they're poised. I'm Bernie Frattle. Come to your live
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it
(01:54:25):
locked or listen to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox
Sports Radio. We are back on the Bernie Fradtle Show
Fox Sports Radio. Come to your live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas. We are twelve
minutes away from the top of the hour. The Dance
(01:54:47):
Sensation sweep of the nation. What kind of brand new
fool you followed by what my name?
Speaker 2 (01:54:55):
You know?
Speaker 1 (01:54:55):
Every year in the NFL, six teams typically who need
the playoffs the prior year don't, which means six teams
who didn't make the playoffs the prior year do.
Speaker 2 (01:55:09):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:55:10):
I have a surprise team in mind here. I'm not
ready to say they're going to make a playoff appearance.
They're gonna fight for one and the AFCU West is
very much up for grabs. I believe the Arizona Cardinals
(01:55:31):
will be a surprise team. They have a very favorable
schedule that includes only one game against the twenty twenty
four playoff team in the first twelve weeks. They're poised
now it's gonna come down to their quarterback, Kyler Murray.
Can he replicate how the twenty twenty four year started.
He was on point and I like their coach Jonathan
(01:55:54):
Gannon a lot only three turnovers in ten games. And
if that's that's the case with Murray leading the charge,
which he's capable of, he just never really has reached
that ceiling that we think he's capable of. This could
be a breakout year for the Arizona Cardinals. He did
have late season struggles. He had eight interceptions in his
(01:56:15):
final six games, which always raises questions about his consistency. Unfortunately, too,
he has an injury history which resulted in missing eighteen
games from twenty twenty one to twenty twenty three. Although
healthy last year, Kyler Murray played the full seventeen games
and even when Arizona got beat, they were always competitive.
(01:56:38):
You got on the field with him, you know you
were in for a fistfight in the phone booth. Meanwhile,
Okay Marvin Harrison junior out of Ohio State, their first
round draft pick wide receiver, sever could be argued he
had an underperforming rookie year in twenty twenty four. Caught
sixty two of one hundred and sixteen targets, hundred and
(01:57:00):
eighty five yards, eight touchdowns. But he's back this year
like the incredible hul He's bulked up. They're expecting, quite honestly,
and I am to a breakout year for Marvius and
Nearrison j Marvin Harrison Junior. I think he can only
go up, and I think he will and again I
think this, You know this. The FCU West is up
(01:57:21):
for grabs. The other thing, too, is if the Cardinals,
as I said, they every game they were in, they
were in until they weren't. They had an interesting record
in close games, which bears. Notice they lost five one
(01:57:42):
score games in twenty twenty four and six in twenty
twenty three. That's eleven one score games in the last
two years out of thirty four games that you know,
it's almost just a little under half. The third of
their games were one score. You get half of those back,
just half back, and you know you're in the playoffs. Now.
(01:58:07):
There's one other thing that this is a stat I
don't think can be underrated because in two weeks I'm
gonna be talking about NFL Week one trends that you're
gonna want to hear, but this is a stat that
bears noticing. Okay, the Chargers are one of five NFL
teams are checked at the Cardinals, Arizona Cardins we're talking about,
but the Chargers, Commanders, Panthers, and Seahawks also play also
(01:58:30):
follow this category. They're going to play a total of
five games against teams of the new head coach. You
don't hire a coach a new head coach unless the
team is, you know, wasn't good the year before, So
that could work in their favor as well. So I
know a lot of people are hiding the new England
Patriots because they basically have completely revamped their roster. Drake
(01:58:53):
May looks promising, and you have a situation where obviously
Frabel is setting a new tone. We'll see. I don't
know Arizona showed me last year they could compete. One
other thing. I want to just get off my chest
because I like Anthony Richardson. I just don't think he's
a major league quarterback. I like the way he carries himself.
I don't think it was good that he tried to
(01:59:13):
take himself out of a game once he did, But
I think that when the Colts made an official Tuesday
with the name Daniel Jones were starter. The Anthony Richardson
experiment is over. You know, I'm not gonna say he's
not gonna see the field this year, but I don't
know what's gonna warrant that, because Shane Steiken has basically
said I'm gonna hitch my wagon to Daniel Jones. And
(01:59:36):
I know Daniel Jones gets picked on a lot, but
he was in a bad situation in New York and
he did go into Minnesota and win one playoff game
on the road. Took Matthew Stafford fourteen years.
Speaker 8 (01:59:46):
To do that.
Speaker 1 (01:59:46):
By the way, he's not the worst quarterback in the world.
It comes to accuracy. In jones twenty twenty two season,
which was a breakout season, his accuracy was eighty one
percent on target league averages seventy. By contrast, Anthony Richardson
fifty eight percent. So we'll see if Richardson ends up
elsewhere or what ends up happening with the Colts. But
(02:00:10):
I feel, unfortunately at this time Shane Steike and his
part of it, it's on him too. He failed to
develop Richardson. You take a twenty year old quarterback which
is thirteen starts in college. That's risky. I don't recommend
doing it. Coming up, what kind of brand new fool
you followed by? What by name? Keep it locked the
Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. That's right, you
(02:00:34):
heard the man. Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along.
My name is Bernie Fratleworck Comedy line from the Fox
Sports Radio compound here in Las Vegas. We will take
you up to three in Pacific six a m. Eastern
and we've come to that juncture in the show. Well,
you know what, you love it, you Candley without it. We
do it every week because our staff will, as Yogi
(02:00:57):
Berra once said, you can observe a lot by watching,
and we do because all around this great land of ours,
from seed to Oily Sea, and certainly around the global
people engage in behaviors odd, goofy, silly behaviors. Sometimes it's
been out of control. Sometimes can be a little bit
more serious and maybe even run a foul of the law,
even maybe land you in jail. But regardless of the
(02:01:19):
level of stupidity, every time we observe these behaviors, well,
you know, however you characterize them however you describe them,
however you analyzed them, will they always leave us scratching
our head and asking ourselves, what kind of brand new
fool are you?
Speaker 6 (02:01:43):
So?
Speaker 3 (02:01:43):
What kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 9 (02:01:46):
Well?
Speaker 1 (02:01:47):
This time I get to take us back to our
favorite state where there just seems to be a haven
for these stories. It is, of course, the Sunshine State
in Florida. And on our recent Sunday, well, you know,
it's not uncommon for folks to walk their dogs. Or
we have a dog, his name's Walt. I'm not a
good dog walker, not my skill. My wife does a
(02:02:08):
great job of that, but I not so much me.
But I've noticed that dog walkers have a tendency to congregate,
and maybe you've seen that as well. Maybe they all
walk their dogs at the same park or the same
stretch of sidewalk or whatever, and sometimes they say hello
to each other and kibbets and it becomes one big,
happy mishbook of family, if you get my drift. Well,
on this recent Sunday in Florida, a twenty eight year
(02:02:34):
old young lady named Kaylee ended up finding herself getting
arrested because there's apparently this area adjacent to a mobile
home park she lives in where another seventy six year
old man and unnamed man. You know, they cross paths,
they say hello, and the dogs and one thing led
to another and they just did they say goodbye, and
(02:02:56):
then the next day they're everybody's walking their dogs and
they say hello. Well, and it's one particular day, Kaylee
was walking her dog and she got arrested because she
started a confrontation because for some reason on this particular day,
(02:03:17):
mister dog walker I guess his name was, Daniel, just
didn't say hello. It kept heright on walking. Well not
really upset Kaylee, and she got upset and she said,
this doesn't make any sense. He always says hello, I
walk my dog. I'm not putting up with that. And
of course most people would go on about their way
and say, well maybe next time. Whatever. They're all just
(02:03:38):
dog walkers. We see each other all the time, na,
But it just so happens. Kaylee's dog had to do
a little business on the ground, and so she was
scooping it up. She did what any person who makes
what kind of brand new fool segment do. She scooped
it up, smashed it in the face of mister David
and smeared dog crap all over him in the face
(02:03:58):
of a seventy six years old senior citizen. Well, the
cops didn't think this was too funny. They have charged
her with a felony. Of course, Robinson has not pleaded
guilty or has pleaded not guilty to a third degree
battery charge. Meanwhile, I'm hopeful mister David was able to
(02:04:23):
wash his face and survive this, which apparently he has.
This segment never ceases to amaze me. I don't know.
Maybe you can classify this under defecation of character. Where
are you, Mark oh Man? I know that was the reach.
I know Mark that that's on me. But once again,
(02:04:44):
Kaylee and David, the dog walkers who usually you know,
make nice when everybody's walking their dogs and say hello
and everybody. All of a sudden, it took a bad
turn when number two was smeared all over David's face
and now one's facing a felonony. So much for walking
your dog in the park and mining your own business.
Cali and Florida. What kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 6 (02:05:09):
All right?
Speaker 1 (02:05:10):
Mister Brandon?
Speaker 4 (02:05:11):
Take it away, all right? Bernie we're gonna stay in
the state of Florida, Okay, because this is the state
that provides such excellence when we do choose to observe.
And we'll go to this woman Autumn Bordisa, twenty nine.
Woman posing as a nurse sees thousands of patients before
arrest in Florida. So listen to this. This is a
(02:05:34):
pretty crazy story. A woman arrested in Flager County is
accused of posing as a nurse for eighteen months and
seeing more than four thousand patients before being caught. Okay,
comcost four thousand. Yes, yes, Bertie has caught me off
guard as well, four thousand before anybody even noticed. Okay.
So she assumed a different yet similar name okay to
(02:05:58):
her own in order to fraud obtained employment at Advent Health.
And then she saw four four hundred and eighty six
patients and gave all of them, or not all of them,
but a large amount ozepic, which she was not cleared
to do. And then she also gave them injections that
she was not legalized obviously to do because she's not
(02:06:21):
an RN, even though she was posing as an RN.
And it was determined that she had approached the health system,
staying she was an education first RN, meaning she passed
quote the required schooling to become an RN, but had
not yet passed the national exam to obtain her license.
So she fraudulently obtained that license, like I said, and
(02:06:43):
saw over forty four hundred patients and gave them a
bunch of ozempic and she was arrested. Of course, they
eventually made contact with Advent Health after an employee became
suspicious and they said, she's impersonating somebody. The woman said
that while she and BERTIEA went to the same college
at the same time, this was the person she was impersonating.
(02:07:05):
She did not know Burdisa and did not give anyone
permission to use her name or licensing information. So, oh boy,
she was arrested. But these patients, at least they got
their ozempic.
Speaker 1 (02:07:16):
I guess, Bernie, which phrases a question, how they helped
you get her hands on ozempik and did so someone
else is involved here.
Speaker 4 (02:07:22):
One hundred percent, So there was incompetence going all around
ODVND Health in Florida. But I have to say, Autumn Burdisa,
what kind of brand new fool are you lott.
Speaker 1 (02:07:36):
Of layers in that one. For I still can't get
my mind around four thousand patients wild more than that
average doctor see ten patients a day. I don't even know, ik't,
but that's like he's working three hundred and sixty five
days a year and seeing ten patients. Wow. Well, that's
exactly why we call this segment. What kind of brand
(02:07:58):
new fool are you? So? Another rousing edition of brand
new fool is in the books, which now allows us
to secuay into our second favorite bit, which we'd lovingly
refer to as what my name? Alrighty, and here we go.
I'm a current manager in the major leagues, and I've
(02:08:22):
actually won four World Series, even though my career record
is under five hundred. Brandon, what my name? I'm currently
managing in the American League.
Speaker 4 (02:08:38):
Okay, four World Series kind of gave it away, and
he had a bunch of tumultuous years with the Giants.
I think this is Bruce Bochie.
Speaker 1 (02:08:45):
It is, in fact, the great Bruce Bochie, and he's
only interestingly enough, he's only a few games under five hundred.
But it's kind of a distinctive statistic to have that
kind of resume first ballot Hall of Famer manager of
my belief. All right, I am a current NFL football player,
(02:09:06):
and I hold the following distinction. I have the most
career earnings in the NFL. Now, this is as a player.
Just doesn't include endorsements and all that, just salaries as
a player. At three hundred and eighty million mark, what
my name? I'm now on my third team. I'm a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (02:09:28):
Does he like to spend time alone in a room?
Is it Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 1 (02:09:33):
It is, in fact, Daron Rodgers three million dollars. He's
made his career since he broke into the league in
two o seven. That bad for guy had zero scholarship
offers coming out of high school in northern California. Let's
go back to baseball. I recently became the youngest and
fastest player in Major League Baseball to hit one hundred
(02:09:58):
home runs. Brandon, what my name? My father also played
in the Major leagues.
Speaker 4 (02:10:05):
Fastest, fastest to hit one hundred home runs. And this
is a current player. It happened to player.
Speaker 1 (02:10:11):
My father also played in the Major leagues, but he
was a pitcher.
Speaker 4 (02:10:15):
M oh, this one's tough, Fernando to tiast junior.
Speaker 1 (02:10:21):
That's an excellent guest. You'll get your clothes, but not him.
Speaker 4 (02:10:24):
And his dad was a hitter.
Speaker 1 (02:10:26):
His dad was a hitter. Remember hit two Grand Slams.
Speaker 4 (02:10:28):
And that's right, Yes, that's what he's famous.
Speaker 1 (02:10:30):
Yes, all right. I recently became the youngest fastest player
in Major League history to hit one hundred home runs
my last I'm a junior. My name is Blank, playing
junior and my father was a pitcher in the major leagues.
I'm in the American League. Mark, what my name so?
Speaker 4 (02:10:50):
Junior? Yeah, well, I was thinking the dumper, but I
guess it's not him, and he's not a don't I
don't know the name.
Speaker 1 (02:10:58):
I'll blurt it. I'll blurt off the first name. Neither
one of you guys can yell about. My first name
is Bobby. Oh, it's Bobby.
Speaker 4 (02:11:03):
I should have known that, ah Mad, I should have
known that one.
Speaker 1 (02:11:12):
You know, to this day, even though it's been twenty years,
the Bartman incident still talked about. And Mark, I'm sure
you know all about that Chicago guy. Well, no one
ever talks about who was the guy actually pitching for
the Cubs when the Bartman incident took place in left
(02:11:35):
field during the Bartman incident. I am the one that
was pitching for the Cubs. Brandon what my name? Here's
a clue. I'm a current pitching coach in the Major leagues. Man,
that's based in California.
Speaker 4 (02:11:53):
Oh gosh, it's not Mark Pryor.
Speaker 1 (02:11:57):
It is, in fact, Mark Pryor.
Speaker 4 (02:12:00):
That one was tough.
Speaker 1 (02:12:03):
He's a Dodger pitching coach, right, I haven't.
Speaker 6 (02:12:05):
Been, No, he is.
Speaker 4 (02:12:06):
He is known as the guy with the most talent
or projectability and got hurt obviously in the league.
Speaker 1 (02:12:11):
Oh, he had all kinds of arm talent coming out
of you. Just terrible, just terrible. He had sustained a
lot of arm injuries early. I think he's done a
good job with the staff, and I know our good
buddy Jason Stewart's worried about the Dodgers. But you watch
when October rolls around, I think you'll see a different,
different thing. But I think they're going to be Okay,
(02:12:32):
let's go back to football. In eleven starts at quarterback
in the National Football League, I had the lowest completion
percentage of any quarterback in the NFL in twenty twenty four,
Mark what my name? I played for an AFC team,
and I just got benched his past week. I've mentioned
his name earlier in the show, only at thirteen starts
(02:12:56):
in college, drafted third overall.
Speaker 4 (02:13:01):
I'm thinking, is it Richardson?
Speaker 1 (02:13:03):
Yes, it's Anthony Richardson. Yep, we stay with football, all right.
In the history of the National Football League, Reggie White
was the first player to register twelve sacks twelve sacks
(02:13:23):
in four straight years. I am the second player in
the history of the National Football League to register four
sacks twelve sacks in four straight seasons. All Right, I
butchered that pretty bad. Let me try it again. Reggie
White was the first player in NFL history to register
twelve sacks in four consecutive years. I'm the second NFL
(02:13:46):
player in history to register twelve sacks in four consecutive years.
I play for an NFC team, Brandon, What my name?
Here's a big clue.
Speaker 4 (02:13:59):
Yeah, well, no, no, the contract? Are you thinking of MICHAEH. Parsons.
Speaker 1 (02:14:03):
It is Michael Parson. It's absolutely Michael Parson.
Speaker 4 (02:14:06):
Yeah, the contract extension talks would have given it away
for sure, but I was pretty confident it was Michael Parsons.
Speaker 1 (02:14:11):
Regardless it's definitely, definitely Michael Parsons. All right, let's stay
with football, believe it or not. Last season, I established
the record as a quarterback for most consecutive passes without
throwing an interception for rookie quarterbacks. Mark Ramsey, what my
(02:14:34):
name play for a city you're very familiar with?
Speaker 4 (02:14:40):
Is it the guy who runs around and holds it
too long?
Speaker 1 (02:14:43):
Is it Williams's Caleb Williams? Yes, all right, last one.
We'll go back to baseball. I think you guys will
get this one. This season, I became the first rookie
(02:15:04):
in Major League Baseball history to have a four home
run game. I played for an American League West team,
and I starred at Wake Forest in college. Brandon what
my name?
Speaker 4 (02:15:18):
Yes? This is the big amish Nick.
Speaker 1 (02:15:21):
Yeah, Nick Kurtz, Yep, yep. Buddy Larry's sorens have raved
about him at.
Speaker 4 (02:15:27):
Ways over a thousand. By the way, he's got what has.
Speaker 1 (02:15:30):
He got now? Twenties? Yeah? Over one thousand? What's he
got on? Twenty seasons?
Speaker 4 (02:15:33):
One of the most impressive rookie seasons ever. Yeah, I
think three fifteen average, twenty six home runs over about.
Speaker 1 (02:15:39):
He noticed this Oakland A's team has got some talent.
Their Stockpiland, I love their shortstop. I love their catcher
Shae Langeleers who came through here. He was original dragon.
They might be interesting, but the attend to get to
Vegas in three years it might be something I don't know.
They compete.
Speaker 4 (02:15:54):
Yeah, and Rooker they signed to a team friendly long
term extension too.
Speaker 1 (02:15:57):
You're seeing more and more of that now. All right, guys,
it's a great job, but another rising addition to what
kind of brand new fool of you followed by what
my name? And at this time I should remind you
that with the iHeartRadio app, you can stream us wherever
you happen to be. Catch us in all of our

Coming up, College football is underway and it is time
(02:16:41):
to talk about some names you're gonna be hearing about.
We've had another offseason field with all kinds of chatter
around college football. You've had expansion conference, realignment, TV contracts,
we're now back on the field. There are as many
as twenty five important names you're gonna be hearing about
this season, and some you've always heard about, some you
(02:17:02):
have it. It's time to do a little roll call,
because that way when it starts for really real next
week Thursday, you'll say, Hey, I've heard of that guy.
I'm Bernie Frattle. We're coming to line from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios here in Las Vegas Department
of Redundancy Department. Keep it locked. Listened to Bernie Frattle Show,
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (02:17:41):
All right back at the Bernie Fradle Show, Fox Sports
Radio Company. Live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
Studios here, college football is back. There was a slate
of games on Saturday, if actually referred to as weeks zero,
and next Thursday, it really gets going for real. I mean,
(02:18:03):
for the first time since nineteen forty five, you're gonna
have three matchups featuring non conference teams ranked in the
top ten. We haven't had that in eighty years. You
know about Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame.
How about the players? You know? Carson beck is in Miami.
(02:18:23):
Now you probably already knew that, and you already knew
about Arch Manning. You can't get five seconds into a
college confer football conversation without Manning's name entering the picture.
He is the most talked about college player before being
handed to starting jobs since Johnny Manzil. Now he's gonna
be QB one Texas quin Yours is gone, and I
(02:18:44):
would say you combined him with Steve Sarkisian's offensive game planning.
This is gonna be fun to watch. We don't know
where it ends up. I think he's gonna be outstanding.
He may or may not win the Heisman. He may
or may not be the number one player picked overall.
Next year you will be watching. Know that name. Ohio
State is defending the national championship. A lot of players
(02:19:06):
are gone, but two key returning players you need to
know about. The First one is Caleb Downs. He's an
all world defender. He can ruin games with his return abilities.
He's also got you know, teams that always have to
account for him like NFL offenses did for Ed Reid.
He's that type of player. He'll be a top ten pick.
And that's on the defensive side of the ball. On
(02:19:28):
the offensive side of the ball. Jeremiah Smith, he's you know,
those two guys maybe the two best players in the country.
He should need no introduction. He torched everybody last year
as a freshman wide receiver with the Buckeyes. He's one
of those guys. They say Ervin Meyer said it about
Percy Harvin, they said it about Adrian Peterson. They're saying
(02:19:51):
it about Jeremiah Smith. Now, as a freshman in college,
he probably could have played in the NFL, but he's
got to play two more years of college football. And
he said he is right now going in it should
be the most dominant player in college football this year. Now, well,
you know, we'll see that is a name you'll hear
(02:20:11):
a lot about. You already, have you gonna hear more?
Now this is a name you may have heard of,
but you're gonna hear more this year. I'm talking about
Kaylen de Boor. Now, the board did a hell of
a job at Washington, took over for Nick Saban, almost
an impossible task. And the problem is, the last time
you saw you know, Alabama play, if you've watched Bowl games,
(02:20:36):
which most of us do, they were getting worked over
like a burger and fries by Michigan's backups. So the
honeymoon in Tuscaloosa is over and there's a lot of
pressure on Kailin de Boor this year. But he brought
in Ryan Grubb, his former offensive coordinator at Washington, who
spent last year in the NFL, and I'm predicting Alabama
is going to have a tremendous bounce back here. They
(02:20:56):
got road trips to Florida State and Georgia the first
of the season, and I think that Alabama's going to
be good. And Calyn de bor was brought there for
a reason. I wouldn't jump hip on this guy now.
Lincoln Riley, look, year one in Los Angeles was kind
of a Hollywood dream for Riley. They were eleven and
three in his first campaign, but ever since then, it's
been a nightmare. Okay, they the Trojans are a beyond
(02:21:20):
medioc or fifteen and eleven in the last two seasons.
And I don't think that they gave Lincoln Riley one
hundred million dollars to finish in the mid pack of
the Big Ten and or preside over the eighty seventh
ranked defense. But they hired Rob Ryan. Yes, that Rob Ryan,
the son of Buddy, the brother of Rex. We'll see
(02:21:44):
if he can help USC's defense join the modern society.
Don't bet on it, we'll see. I bet you haven't
heard of Harold Perkins Junior. Look a lot of pressure.
You've heard of Garrett Nutzmeyer. Okay, he's the quarterback at LSU.
He depending he'll give you a lot of wow highlights.
But he's also got those WTF moments. He's got elite
(02:22:06):
arm talent. He's poised to put up out rageous numbers.
Some people think he can be a Heisman candidate because
LSU is gonna throw the ball a lot. But the
truth of the matter is he's got to do it.
And I know, I think he's he's got NFL talent,
and I you know what, I'm my wife and I
are going to LSUS. We can see LSU Arkansas this year.
Later in the year. I don't know what Brian Keller
(02:22:28):
is gonna do. But if they do anything, it's gonna
they're gonna be relying heavily on Garrett knut Spinner and
a kid Harold Perkins Junior. He was an absolute stud
as a freshman, but two years later he's got he's
had a torn a cl and he's got a position change.
He's got a tremendous skill set. H he is gonna
be a cod of the defense. If you thought USC's
(02:22:51):
defense was not great, well neither was LSU's. They ranked
eighty ninth last year. But keep an eye on Harold
Perkins again. He's your household. Names you're going to see
this year. You already know about Jeremiah Love, maybe the
most electrifering player in the nation other than Jeremiah Smith.
Absolute stud at Notre Dame last year. Averaged almost seven
yards of carry, scored seventeen touchdowns, and he only carried
(02:23:13):
the ball about ten times a game. So it looked
for another big stud year out of Jeremiah Love. Now
I'm gonna give you three names I guarantee you haven't
heard of, Karen Hudson, Trevor Pana and DeVante Rossto. If
you hear Jeredley Smith on with Me in the first
hour of the show, he mentioned those names. Think about
Penn State, right, they're like wide receiver central man, except
(02:23:36):
they're not. Do you know Drew Allerg has completed twelve
to twenty three passes last year when they lost to
Notre Dame. Six were to their tight end Tyler Warren,
and six more to a combination of running backs and
backup tight ends. You can't blame it at all on
Aler because his receiver group proved time and time again
they weren't great. Warren's now in the NFL. But you've
(02:23:58):
got a trio of transfer receivers who are all said
it as being very good, Kyen Hudson, Trevor Payne, Devonte Ross.
They all in Presston fall camp. And if they fit
in and they produce, then Penn State could get to
that coveted national championship game that's been eluding to him
since what nineteen eighty six when they shocked Miami. You're
(02:24:19):
gonna hear more about kid Clubnick now you already have.
I know a lot of just Gronald Clemson fans were
calling for Clubnick to be bench, but Dabbles Swiney stood
by him. He got rewarded in a big way. Club
Nick came on big down the stretch last year, just
six interceptions in thirty touchdown passes. Thirty seven touchdown passes.
They're saying he's improved, much more poised, much more command
(02:24:41):
and LSU has a superb roster. Speaking of quarterbacks, the
North sellers he's got the type of combination of play
baking ability, raw talent. I don't know if he's the
best quarterback in the country. There are some people who
who say he is. I don't know, but he might
(02:25:05):
be the funnest quarterback to watch in the country. NFL
scouts have already taken notice, and I would say he
should develop into an above average passer flying up draft boards.
But there's a highlight reel in uh in the North cellars.
I think you know when when they played with South
Carolina played Clempson last year. Go watch that tape and
(02:25:26):
you'll see what I'm talking about. How can we have
this list without having Coach Prime. It's gonna be always
be must watch TV whenever there's a micro microphone around
Coach Prime. They open up against tu No, they open
up against Georgia Tech A tough call this year no
more Shador, no more Wester, no more Jimmy Horn jur
no more Travis Hunter. Uh, it's good. We hope he
(02:25:51):
remains in good health. Dion's good for the game. He
beat bladder cancer. He's entering a season of Colorado with
all the players I just mentioned, but there's still going
to be eyes on Boulder. We'll see what they do
for an encore. Okay, this name has been polarizing, but
let him get on the field and see what he
(02:26:11):
can do. He's returning home to California. When the history
books are written, he will be most noted for the
first ever real contract dispute in the NIL world I'm
talking about. Of course, Nemo checked that. Nico Yamalava all right,
He's now going to be the highly scrutinized quarterback at EACLA.
(02:26:34):
For whatever reason, he decided he wanted to be ECLA.
It was worth more of him to go to Tennessee.
I thought he'd got a really good offer at Tennessee,
but he wanted more whatever I don't know the story.
Volunteers disagreed. He packed up. He's now back at home
in the friendly confines of Los Angeles, where he grew up.
Now this will be fun to watch for a couple
(02:26:55):
of reasons. Okay, because if Nico flashes, Tennessee will have
answers for allowing a potential future first round quarterback to
leave over money or will it be Nico believe he
was overvalued. But this is something we're going to watch. Okay, Now,
(02:27:18):
you saw this with Travis Hunter last year. Remember this name,
Coy Perrich. He had an incredible freshman season at Minnesota
last year for BJ Flack. He led the Big Ten
in interceptions, and they have hinted at him having a
dual threat in his sophomore years, seeing time at wide receiver.
(02:27:42):
He did everything just about in the world in his
high school career, and his athleticism and performance as a
freshman suggests that he could do it at the Big
Ten level as well, whether it's a runner, passer receiver.
Apparently Minnesota's got plans for peric and that is going
to make him a must watch guy this year. I
(02:28:04):
mentioned Dione Sanders. You gotta mention Bill Belichick. I have
no idea how North Carolina's gonna do this year. They
brought in forty four new players. I think their quarterback
has yet to be proven. You can argue that he's
the greatest NFL coach of all time in the college ranks.
I think North Carolina's defense was brutal last year. They
(02:28:24):
need to have improved on that. But you're gonna watch
win loser draw. Now, Jeh Mattier, I have a special
interest in this, but I'm gonna put these two names together,
Jeohn Mattier and Bryce Underwood. Now, Bryce Underwood was the
young man on a Belleville High school in Michigan who
Michigan paid the princely sum to come in and start
a quarterback for my moles. Tell me ninety nine percent
(02:28:46):
chance he's gonna start against New Mexico next week, But
the week after they get to visit Oklahoma. Oklahoma's got
ten starters back on defense, and they got a new
quarterback who can run like the Dickens. I'm not sure
how he is as a passer. He did real well
at Washington State, but he's stepping up into a much
tougher conference in the SEC and he will have max
(02:29:09):
venables Okay to have a defense to support him. But
this is a quarterback. John Mattier. If he comes on
and has the kind of production. They hope he can
have kind of like maybe a Caleb Williams had at
Oklahoma or even at Dylan Gabriel. Oklahoma could be a
sneaky dark horse SEC title contender. But they'll get their
first ascid test against the Michigan team. That won't be great,
(02:29:32):
but they'll be tough, all right. Michigan can't be any
worse than throwing the ball than they were last year.
The only team's worst than throwing the ball at Michigan
last year were Army Navy in the Air Force, and
those teams don't even throw. I think they were on
the wishbone. But they have their solution. Bryce Underwood, who
flipped his commitment from LSU because he got incredible financial support. Again.
(02:29:56):
Larry Ellison, the Oracle founder, underwrote the deal. I hear
good things out Underworld works hard, he's ready for this.
I have no idea how he's gonna do, and you
don't either. I spent a lot of time in Michigan.
His high school team got beat in the semi finals
against Catholic Central. They picked him off twice. He threw
into coverage multiple times. But he's a world class athlete.
(02:30:18):
We'll see what happens when he steps in to the
big ten. Georgia don't go to sleep on them. This year.
The Carson Beck era is over and it's Gunnar Stockton
who's going to try to lead the Bulldogs back to
a national title game. And you know that Kirby Smart
is never going to have two mediocre years in a row.
You even have a mediocre here last year. But for
(02:30:41):
Georgia standards, but he prioritized finding players who can catch
the ball. Why Georgia's wide receivers. I might have picked
on Penn States. What if I told you Georgia led
the nation and drops last season. For the wide receivers,
they bring in Zachariah Branch from at USC who is electric.
I saw him in high school here. Bishop gormanck electric.
(02:31:03):
And they brought in Noah Thomas from Texas A and
m all of a sudden, Gunner Stocktrin's got one, but
two way above average wide receivers to throw to. Okay,
These are the kind of weapons that give Georgia the
kind of bite and the offense in their passing attack
they didn't have the last couple of years, at least
(02:31:23):
from what I could see. Sam Levitt Okay. He was
the starting quarterback on college football's biggest surprise team last season.
Nobody saw Arizona State and that playoff charge coming, and
they almost beat Texas, legitimately almost beat Texas. No more
Cam Scatable, but they've got Sam Levitt who's a dual threat.
(02:31:43):
They were the one of the major reasons that the
Sun Devil shocked the world last year. And this team
is going to be good, but they are missing their
most dangerous weapon. Like I said, Cam Scattable. However, I'm
intrigued by their head coach, Kenny Dillingham. He's proven his
game calling skills over the years, his leadership skills. He's
(02:32:04):
a very interesting kind of renaissance guy. I think you'll
have Sam Levitt crying for another outstanding season. Probably arguably
is the best quarterback in the Big twelve. We'll see
what John Mattier has to say about that. Finally, Will Stein, Okay.
Will Stein's a perfect two for two at Oregon in
(02:32:24):
sending quarterbacks to the Heisman ceremony. Had Bode Nix and
Dylan Gabriel got invites to New York last year. He
pulls it off for a third straight year. It's safe
to assume he probably won't be at Oregon next year. However,
he's got kind of a tall task. He's got a
kid named Dante Moore, a young kid out of Detroit,
all kinds of athleticism, a highly touted passer who started
(02:32:46):
as a freshman UCLA before transferring to the Ducks prior
to last season. It did not work out for Dante
Moore at UCLA at all. If wilf Stein can go
three for three and get more anywhere near the level
Nicks and Gabriel played once again, Oregon's a legit national
title threatned Big ten. I'm already looking forward to one
game that Oregon plays this year, and that's when they
(02:33:08):
visit the aforementioned Penn State and Nitney Lyons later in
the year, and that could be a white out game.
So there you have it. There's a bunch of names.
You're going to be hearing about them. You'll apply the
names to the schools and as they go on throughout
the season and make their name for themselves if they do.
You heard it here Coming up we wrap up the show,
(02:33:28):
And yeah, I can't resist sharing this with you because
I know that Michael checked at the Eric Dickerson allegations
really caught fire this year in terms of nationwide discussion.
He was on The Rogan and Rodney Show and made
the statement that somebody called the NFL and said, don't
draft your door. Well, they ended up drafting him. But
(02:33:50):
what's interesting is somewhere under the radar back on May nineteenth,
a fan filed a lawsuit. Although it appeared to be
frivolous against the NFL over the draft day free fall
of Schador Sanders, it's time to revisit that because this
plaintiff is asking for a lot. We'll tell you what
he's asking for. I'm Bernie fridder Wor coming to your
(02:34:11):
line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked.
You're listening to the Bernie Fradders Show on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, we are wrapping it up on the Bernie
Fraters Show. Been with you since eleven pm Pacific on
Saturday night. I don't think my producers, Mark and Brandon
(02:34:35):
for all your hard work. What kind of brand new food?
What my name? Turn around? The Donalds? Keeping us school together,
answering all the phones in the midnight hour, which is
another raucous hour tonight where callers call in. We had
some interesting subjects, not the least of which involves Schador
Sanders and the allegations by Eric Dickerson that someone spoke
(02:34:56):
to someone and someone and said, don't draft Shador. And
my belief is there should be some sort of investigation
into this. This is these are not fly by that allegation.
So if it's true, I don't know, there needs to
be some sort of follow up, all right, will there be?
I have no idea. And oh, by the way, if
(02:35:16):
you're wondering, and again, Tuesday is D Day. Teams that
are currently carrying ninety men on the roster, they got
to get down to fifty three. You can keep seventeen
on the practice go out on top of the fifty three,
but if you find yourself on the practice squad, you
can be picked up on another organization. So the question
is will shoot or make the team. It's funny because
a reporter asked him that same question right after his
(02:35:39):
performance on Saturday, and Shoot Door's answer was apparently a
very smug one word. Obviously, and he probably will. But
that's I'm not here to talk about that. What I
am here to talk about is what prompted my what
jogged my memory when the Eric Dickerson guest spot on
Rogan and Rodney, one of our affiliates five seventy in
(02:36:01):
Los Angeles Thursday. It really raised some eyebrows, It really did.
Speaker 6 (02:36:07):
And.
Speaker 1 (02:36:09):
It made me remember that last May, about three weeks
right after the draft, some fan who will we will
call John Doe because the lawsuit was inexplicably filed under
John Doe was a pseudonym filed what may have been
(02:36:30):
appeared to be very frivolous lawsuit against the NFL over
the fact that Shudor Sanders had a free fall and
when he was drafted thought he should have been drafted higher.
And here's what's interesting, and even took it a step further.
The John Doe pseudonym filed an emergency motion for what's
called early and targeted discovery, Like we want to see
how much information exists. So here's what John Doe is
(02:36:53):
asking for. He's the plaintiff quote citing the urgency, public
interest and volume of evidence. It's likely to be in
the exclusive possession of the NFL. We seek one emails
and text messages between and among a broad range of
team and league officials regarding Sanders from April first, twenty
(02:37:15):
twenty five through May one, twenty twenty five. Was there
any communica saying don't draft should or Sanders? Number? Two
and again, I'm reading this from the complaint. Scouting reports,
internal assessments, draft boards and interview notes used by NFL
teams when evaluating quarterbacks during the twenty five draft. Three
(02:37:38):
avoid and video recordings of team meetings, Draft room communications
or NFL scouting combined sessions involving Sanders. Four communications with
third party media outlets regarding the public portrayal and narrative
regarding Sanders before the draft. Five all documents regarding the
(02:37:59):
NFL's investigation regarding the prank call place to Sanders. Remember
on draft night, somebody pranked him and said we just
drafted you. Six results or report of the inquiry into
why sanders personal phone number was provided to NFL teams
via the waiver wire. And seven the sixty one page
(02:38:22):
arbitration report that found evidence of collusion against black quarterbacks. Now,
you got to give John Doe a little credit. He's
for being earnest. Even though the lawsuit, I could be wrong,
It could have already been dismissed. But lawyers I've talked
to say, it seems destined for dismissal for real, simple
(02:38:43):
you soon to mitigate loss. How did this fan lose anything?
You have to stay a claim on which relief could
be guaranteed. Okay, But what's interesting about whoever this John
Doe is he seems to be pretty darn knowledgeable regarding
the areas of certain factual inquiry that providing a case
like this would entail. So part of it is looking
(02:39:03):
at the arbitration ruling from earlier this year for whatever
reason that neither the NFL nor the NFL Players Association
doesn't want to discuss anymore. We've heard that the arbitrator
found a reason to believe that collusion did happen as
to the refusal to give guaranteed contracts to certain veteran
quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Kyler, Murray Russell Wilson, but that
(02:39:24):
the players Association failed to prove financial damages. There's not
a dot in my mind that this targeted discovery and
request for all this information is going to be denied.
There's just, unfortunately, nothing really compressing or compelling about this
case that would require the world to stop. For John Doe.
(02:39:44):
It gets complicated, and I understand the planets proceeding without
a lawyer, and the judge might show a little extra lenience.
But this is not a compelling thing. But I do
think that Eric Dickerson's comments were and you can't brush
him under the rug. We'll see where this is goes.
It might go nowhere, I don't know, but man, if
this were to happen, who benefited? Who would really benefit
(02:40:07):
from that? You may or may not like sad or Sanders,
but as a human being, it's gonna do it for
the show. See you in a couple of weeks. Next up,
stay tuned the great Andy Ferman, Fox Sports Radio,
