Speaker 1 (00:02):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We are
Comedy Alive Forny Fox Sports Radio Studios here in Las Vegas.
Absolute jam packed show tonight. Plenty of stuff in the news,
great guests will take you up to three am Pacific,

(00:23):
six am Eastern. And for good reason today I'm reminded
of the legendary Willie Nelson, who's now ninety two years young.
He'll turn ninety three next April. And you may or
may not remember, many many years ago, actually decades ago,
he got into a little hot water with Uncle Sugar
the Irs. He owed some money, and he was in

(00:46):
the process of negotiating with the government on which of
his assets would be.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Well frozen and or taken from him.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
And Willie fought tooth and nail to keep his golf course,
and somehow ended up prevailing. And many years later a
reporter got a hold of the story, and they were
sitting in Willie's deck in the back out of his house,
looking upon the golf course that he was able to retain,
and the reporter says, well, why was it you wanted

(01:19):
to keep your golf course so badly? Among all your assets.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
He goes.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
It's simple, he goes. When you own your own golf course,
you get to decide par You see that eighteen finishing
hole there by the lake, that's the par fourteen, and
yesterday I birdied it. You know, if it was always

(01:45):
so simple for the University of Michigan, it was always
so easy that maybe they could in fact make.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Their own rules.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
And by now you've heard and all of a sudden,
just like that, the Friday News domut after a year
of teeth mashing, the NCAAs spoken, and interestingly enough, no one,
no one seems to be happy.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
I was on the phone well out with my Michigan
moles Friday, and I'll share it with what I learned.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I would say this that that I hadn't.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Been saying for over a year that anybody who would listen,
they weren't gonna have to vacate, and he wins, there's
gonna be nothing retroactive like that. They were gonna they
certainly were not gonna have to vacate their championship, and
there was not gonna be any any postseason ban. But
yet Michigan will appeal. And why well, in part because

(02:46):
they can they can handle the.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Twenty million dollars?

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Fine? Trust me? Perhaps Larry Ellison, the benefactor who presides
over Michigan's collective of the Champion Circle, who wrote a
check to Bryce Underwood, their incoming freshman quarterback from Billeville
High School, for twelve million dollars, hell, he could. He
could pull it out of his wall if he wanted to.
Maybe they will, Maybe they'll, I don't know, but they're

(03:10):
they're gonna appeal that. I think Michigan would like to
see that reduced. They're officer going to appeal Jimmy Joe
Harbaugh's ten year show cause penalty that stacked on top
of it was already four years show calls penalty, which ends
in twenty twenty eight, which means, shoot, he decided to
come back and coach, it won't be twenty thirty eight.

(03:30):
We both know that's not gonna happen. It's kind of silly,
but they like Jimmy Joe and Michigan and they want
to clear his name, so they'll they'll contest that. And frankly,
Michigan didn't like the language, some of the language in
the agreement because apparently in the throws.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Of the agreement, The NCAA said that the.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Infractions report that quote a postseason ban was required in
quotes in Michigan's case, and that a multi year ban
would actually have been appropriate. However, the nca said that
quote a postseason band would unfairly penalize student athletes for
the actions of coaches and staff who are no longer

(04:09):
associated with the Michigan football program, and thus a more
appropriate penalty is an offsetting financial penalty. You see, Michigan
didn't like that language, so they're in fact appealing. So
on Friday, the nc's Committee on Fractions handed down what
has basically been reported as an historic set of fines

(04:33):
with a minimum of twenty million to the University of
Michigan over the sign stealing scandal that occurred before and
during their twenty twenty three National Championship run, and again.
Jim Harbar, their former coach, currently now coaching the NFL's
LA Chargers, received a ten year show cost penalty. Connor Stallions,

(04:56):
the former staff member accused of carrying out the sign
stealing for the Wolverines, well, he received an eight year
show cause order restricting him from all athletic related activities
during the show cause period. But again, the Wolverines will, not, however,
endure a postseason ban that seems to have raised the

(05:18):
ire of a lot of folks, most notably the good
folks in Columbus Buckeyes fans who don't think Michigan's championship
is legitimate.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
A lot of some people don't, A lot of people don't.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
I'm not in that in that corner, actually, but I'm
not taking sides here. And for what it's worth, while
the two schools are pissing on each other what they've
been doing for over one hundred years, Michigan doesn't think
Ohio State's national championship last year is legitimate since Michigan
beat them in Columbus.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Be that as it may, we carry on.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
See the panel determined again, I'll repeat this, that of
postseason ban would have unfairly penalized students, athletes, quote for
the actions of coaches and staff who are no longer
associated with the Michigan football program. Thus, the panel determined
that the more appropriate penalty offsetting financial penalties.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
All right, The.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Investigation found a lot of things that maybe people don't
want to hear. During the twenty one, twenty two to
twenty three seasons Connor Stallions quote directed and arranged for
individuals to conduct off campus in person Scott of Michigan's
future regular seasoned opponents end quote. They have receipts apparently

(06:39):
of tens of thousands of dollars of tickets that are purchased,
distributing to people who would then filmless signal callers of
their future opponents' sidelines and give the footage to Stallions
and not only receive tickets, but phones from Stallions to
film how to document, how to steal signs. And it
was a cadre of intern members, friends of the program.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
They even had their own.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Little cute nickname called the KGB. Now the NCAA Committee
of Infractions also detailed the refusal for Michigan to cooperate
with the investigation on the part of multiple Michigan staffers.
Now that's I think what cause this thing to spin

(07:23):
out of control badly. That's an infraction that the governing
body has no sense of humor about. In fact, Connor
Stein's admitted to the NCAA that, in order to conceal evidence,
he'd thrown his phone in a pond. He also threw
some of the film in upon according to a recorded
phone call, it was in reported that head coach Rylan Moore,

(07:45):
who will pick up another suspension by the way, in
the twenty twenty sixth season on top of the two
game suspension he has this year, apparently had access to
delete text managed messages with Connor Stallions from his own phone. Now,
the NCAA's report that staians participation in the Netflix documentary

(08:10):
on that scandal also quote threatened the integrity of the
process and the people involved in it end quote, and
therefore constituted another cooperation violation.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Anyway you slice it.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
The NCAA was quite clear that throughout the scheme, Connor
Stallions went to great lengths to collect, decipher, document thousands
of signals and pass that on to other staff members.
They recorded materials that demonstrated that you know, Stallions clearly
had access to prominent coaching staff members who he actually
stood next to during football games, which you've might by

(08:47):
now probably seen on film many times. And once that
information became public Stillians also went to then go to
significant link links to try to conceal his efforts, and
those actions were considered again part of the denials and
the faire to cooperate, which led to quote failure to

(09:09):
cooperate violations. There were some other unrelated recruiting violations that
were assessed during the whole Michigan as in any way
it slice it. No one really goes home happy here
and again Michigan, well, they don't have to vacate any wins.
There's not going to be a postseason ban. They're certainly

(09:30):
not going to have to vacate their championship. But at
the end of the day, there appears to be an
incredible bad taste in their mouth with everybody.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I mean, there really is a lot here, you know.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Cheron Moore also has a two year show cause order,
which he's suspended for a total three games.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Now. Michigan's self composed.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
The two games suspension for more during this upcoming season,
but they'll coach they Oklahoma game. The panel determined again
he'll be suspended for a game next year. And look
there they sprayed the board. Denard Robinson the part of
the program as well, former quarterback back in what twenty ten.
He has a three year show cause order and that

(10:12):
restricts him from all athletically related activities during the season.
So look, Michigan, you know another big ten. Anonymous Gems
said they did what they did, they won a national titlet.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
The problem with.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
The NCAA takings along the dish out to penalty helped Michigan.
They believe a postseason ban with a quicker decision on
top of their punishment would have fit much harder. In
this day and age. I just don't think you're ever
going to see that anymore. And by the way, you'll
notice there's not any scholarship prediction, you know, reductions from
what I have learned, because look this collective, this Champion

(10:53):
Circle collective in this day and agel with nil and
transfer portal.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
You know, you can pay for a kids that education.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Without a scholarship. But apparently as you dig deeper into this,
and frankly, you start to scratch your head and it
gets a little bit more boring the longer you go.
But they were able to trace off campus scouting for
thirteen regular season opponents, fifty two opportunities spread over a

(11:21):
four season in endeavor, and thirty five thousand dollars was
spent in doing this, and multiple people were involved. So
look one coach, Chris Partridge, who Michigan fired in twenty
twenty three received no penalties, and I think he felt
vindicated the final ruling. He does not face the show

(11:41):
cause order. So listen, this was a very thorough investigation.
It was an elongate investigation. The wheels of justice scrim slowly,
as I'm sure you know in many cases. But the
irony here is, at the end of the day, no
one goes home happy. The people who wanted Michigan to

(12:04):
be extracted a much greater pond of flesh. They're not
getting their wish. And as far as Michigan's concerned, as
I said, well, they're going to appeal because they can.

Speaker 8 (14:32):
Bernie, I'm doing great. Thanks for having me. Pleasure to be.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
With you always a pleasure.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
I always look forward to it, and you know, I
want to dive right into this without any you know,
any fanfare. Let's talk about the Buffalo Bills. They're on
hard knocks. No hard knocks team has ever even been
to a super Bowl, much less one one. They look
like a powerhouse, but they have a win total that

(15:00):
has you looking in a certain direction. And you've been
really good at DC. So give us your thoughts on
the Buffalo Bills and.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
The win total.

Speaker 8 (15:10):
Well, Bernie, the Bills this year remind me an awful
lot of the Kansas City Chiefs two years ago. And
by that I mean that they're the win totals were
eleven and a half. It was a similar win total.
And I remember saying that that the Chiefs can surely

(15:30):
win the division, they can surely win the AFC, and
they can surely win the Super Bowl. But they weren't
gonna win twelve games to beat me. And if you remember,
Antonio Pierce brought the Raiders in on a Monday night
Kansas City, and it was that game that was the
determining factor in me winning that. Now, when I talk

(15:54):
about Buffalo this year, I want to say the almost
the exact same thing. Buffalo, I think is a team
that's going to benefit from the adversity that it is
going to see this year. I think that they can
still win their division, they can still win their AFC,
and I think they're going to be there to do that.
I think they can even win the Super Bowl, but

(16:16):
I don't think it's going to be on the heels
of another thirteen and two kind of performance. Listen, in
the last three years, this team's played fifty nine games.
That's nineteen point three games a season, So not only
have their seasons been long, but they rely tremendously on

(16:36):
their quarterback. And yes, they recently did get Cook signed,
which is very good news, but they did nothing with
a wide receiver room that's really lacking in depth and talent.
And their offensive line has remain unchanged from last year.
And when we talk about offensive line with the Buffalo bility,

(16:59):
you got to talk about how much continuity they had
last year, which is another thing that's very, very hard
to uphold. In fact, the Buffalo starters lugged nine hundred
plus snaps each last week excuse me, last year and
that can't continue. So the overall health of that offensive line,

(17:24):
the overall health of the Bills. Now, we look at
the defense with a plus twenty eight turnover differential, that's
an up twos amount of turnovers, So they netted a
plus twenty four. Teams that net over twenty turnovers one
year dropped drastically in turnovers the next year, and I

(17:49):
believe that's going to happen as well to the Bills.
And so there's a confluence of factors that I think
together really paint to pitch for the Bills of much
more struggle this year. Anything happens to their quarterback, they're
in dire trouble. And we haven't talked at all about

(18:10):
the helplessness of their defense. Their defense has really caused
them a lot of problems. And let me just spell
this one out. In twenty twenty three, the Bill's D
was tenth in yards allowed. In twenty twenty four, they
were twenty fourth in yards allowed. In twenty twenty three,
that Bills forced punts at the ninth best rate in

(18:33):
the NFL. And in twenty twenty four, the Bill's D
forced punts at the thirty first rate. So there's been
tremendous erosion in the defense. And yes, this year McDermott
and the Buffalo Bills brought in a whole bunch of
defensive players that how fast are you going to get
these rookies to gel into a defense that's really lacking

(18:57):
to begin with. And yes, Bosa is a big addition
to that defensive front's front nine or front seven, I
should say, But I still think that it's this is
going to be a much different year for the Bills.
I think that when you look at their schedule and
you understand that in the last five years, the Bills

(19:19):
have averaged the fourth best rest differential in the NFL,
so they're used to having positive rest. This year they
had the seventh worst as well. That's all backloaded into
their schedule. So when people look at the Bills, they see, okay,
they open with Baltimore and then you got Jeff's Dalphin's Saints, Patriots, Falcons.

(19:43):
There's a cake walk, and so this is not going
to be an easy handicapped the first five weeks when
the Bills are four and one, that's because there's scheduled
difficulty and their lack of rest is all backloaded between
weeks ten and eighteen, and in that span they have
a negative ten days of net rest, disadvantage over their teeth,

(20:07):
over the teams that they play, and so all those games,
everything else I've enumerated, and then a schedule that gets
really really tough at the end of the year forces
me to think that that under eleven and a half,
and that's a plus one forty five number. I think
that's very, very inviting, and I've gone as far burning

(20:29):
as to recommend the under ten and a half. That
comes in a much better the alt fotal and that's
a minus that's a plus two fifty to plus two
sixty depending where you shot.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Talk with a gamble loo loose and a carol. You're right.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
They open up in there, you know, before their bye
week in week seven, with three straight home games in
weeks three, four, and five, including their opening home game
against Baltimore, which is also at home this season, have
another tough home game against Philadelphia. The road schedule fair
is very favorable, or I'd be concerned, and they might

(21:09):
very well go eleven and six very well. And you
bring up a great point, Lou because in the last
couple of years in the playoffs, their defense is not
only ranked twenty ninth versus the rush in the playoffs,
they're allowing forty five percent conversion on third down. That
can't continue. But I feel like they have a very
favorable division. Who can trip them up in their own division?

Speaker 8 (21:32):
That's a great question. And if we go back to
that Kansas City chief dialogue, who'd have thought that the
Raiders without a coach training or I should say auditioning
Antonio Pierce, We're going to go into Kansas City and
win on Monday Night. These things. This is the NFL,
and this happens. It happens all the time. Now, is

(21:54):
it going to be New England? Is it going to
be a Miami game?

Speaker 2 (21:57):
I don't.

Speaker 8 (21:58):
I can't really tell you which one of going to be,
but I really feel strongly the Van it's gonna be.
And I think there'll be surprises through the course of
the year that we'll have to try and witness as
we go. So I don't think they're gonna go undefeated
in the division, if that's one way of trying to

(22:21):
answer your question.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Well, at your point, they have three very tough home
games in Baltimore, Kansas City, and Philadelphia, and a couple
of very challenging road non divisional games at Houston at
Pittsburgh back to back weeks, followed up by another very
tough home game against Cincinnati. So you bring up a
great point. I agree with you that every NFL schedule
is a gauntlet. Let's talk about another team where I

(22:45):
think there are oodles of question marks and you're squarely
You've got your s squarely set on the Dallas Cowboys
and they're.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Their win total as well.

Speaker 8 (22:59):
Yeah, now that one, I'm going to pay a little juice.
If you're looking at the eight and a half. You're
going to pay the one forty or the one forty
five to go under there. And this is another total
where I'm not afraid if you look for an eighth
or even a seven and a half to change those
numbers around this, and I start, I'm just an opportunist.

(23:23):
I'm just looking at profit. I don't love any nh
NFL team, and I don't really despise any NFL team.
I like the one that can make me money. And
this year, I think the Cowboys have tremendous holes. I
think Jerry Jones is now entering the strata of Woody

(23:43):
Johnson and the mccaskeys as far as ineptitude of running
an organization. So let's just start with them. And the
Cowboys have the tenth most difficult strength of schedule this year.
That's a tough thing. And they're going to do that
on the heels of a brand new coaching staff. Yeah,
Schottenheimer was with him last year, but it's his first

(24:04):
year at head coach with a first year defensive coordinator
in EVERFLUS. And you really look at these Dallas Cowboys
and this is another schedule totally backloaded with difficulty in
weeks eleven through thirteen, Dallas the only team this year

(24:28):
in the NFL that has to play three games in
ten days. Further, there's a game a week later and
they also so that's also four games and seventeen days.
That's really really difficult to try and pull off as well.
Their schedule is the second most difficult in the NFL
weeks twelve through eighty against It's backloaded. When I look

(24:51):
at Dallas, I look at an offensive line that used
to be the pillar and the foundation of a great
offic That offensive line has he eroded away. They're still apt,
but they're not what they were. Their running back room
is a laughing stock. They drafted some young kid out

(25:13):
of Texas and the first thing everybody started saying that
the guy showed up with a hammock and a margaritea
in his hand. He's not much of a worker, is
the word out on the street. And that's before we
really we're talking about the strength of Dallas. And it's

(25:35):
supposed to be that offense. Well, they say Dak was
hurt last year, Yeah, Dak was hurt. But when Dak
was healthy weeks one through nine, their yards per completion
was thirtieth in the NFL. Their EPA for rushing was
twenty third in the NFL, their rushing success twentieth in
the NFL. That's when Dak was playing. That's really a

(25:58):
reflection of the running backs and the offensive line. Yeah,
they got some fancy wide receivers, but I don't know
if they can just throw the ball all over everybody.
And that's before we even start to talk about a
defense that's really been decimated over the years. I think
that it's going to be a very very difficult road
to hoe in Dallas without much running game and a

(26:22):
Dak Prescott that is a good, solid, serviceable NFL quarterback,
but you're going to put way too much pressure on
him without any form of running game, strong offensive line,
and so I really think that Dallas not only will
not achieve, will not eclipse eight wins. I think at

(26:45):
thirty to one, they're also a team that I would
look at for the fewest wins in the NFL this year.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
You're not wrong.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
They're in a tough division to get Philadelphia twice, they
get Washington twice. But that ten day stretch you speak of,
they play the Eagles, the Chiefs, and then they go
to Detroit before coming home back to back games against
Minnesota and the Rams and then visiting the Commanders. So yeah,
no rest for the wicked in Dallas. You get the

(27:14):
feeling the wheels could really come off there in a
bad way. Lou One team I want to talk about
that I just can't get behind for any reason.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Forget the hype.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
And yes, I live here and I know they're an
iconic franchise that insists on living in the past.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Give me your take on the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
I feel like they've got seven and ten, six and
eleven written all over them. Give me your.

Speaker 9 (27:36):
Thoughts, Bernie.

Speaker 8 (27:40):
My talks are that I'm not afraid of them. And
at this point in time, we've just talked about two
under teams, because at this point in the NFL season,
I'm only looking at unders. An injury will only help me,
it will help me win a bet. So I have
not ventured in what teams that I like and what

(28:02):
teams I think are going to do positive things like
when their division or win the AFC, etc. However, when
I look at at the basic makeup of the Raiders,
the first thing I see is Pete Carroll, Chip Kelly
and Pat Grant. I think the culture immediately in Vegas

(28:24):
has metamorphosized itself into one of patient experience, which is
all Pete Carroll. This team's going to take on a
new identity and they're going to be a physical running
team like all Pete Carroll teams. Are fourteenth most difficult
strength to schedule. That's not too bad. The issue for

(28:48):
the Raiders, unfortunately, is they have the worst net rest
differential in the NFL this year, negative nineteen. That's just enough.
Two's ridiculous number, and so their schedule sets up to
be very, very difficult as well. You're talking about an
offensive line ranked twenty eighth to thirty two teams, So

(29:10):
there's going to be tremendous growing pains, I think with
the Raiders. But that win total is marked at what
burning is that win total?

Speaker 1 (29:20):
Seven? I've seen seven and I've seen seven and a half.

Speaker 8 (29:25):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's a number that with
a gun to my head, I would be forced to
take it over. And they are The Raiders are a
team I am thinking of using for an over and
I'm going to have to get past all that that
negative rest. But in the case of the Raiders, that

(29:47):
rest is from the first part of the season up
through about week eleven or twelve through those breadth of
Cleveland Browns. After that, their schedule, at least as far
as rest opens up. Difficulty is you got the Chargers, Browncos, Eagles, Texans,
and Chiefs, so it's going to be a hard road
to hoe for the Raiders. What I would say with

(30:10):
Fairs with a fair degree of certainty is the Raiders
are going to be a way better team this year
than they were last year.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
Fair enough, fair enough, I'm a doubting Thomas. We shall
see how that farts out before lets you go, lou
who's the surprise team this year?

Speaker 2 (30:30):
There's always one.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
I have one in my mind that we're not most
folks aren't talking about now, but they will be in
November and December. I'll just fill the beans for me.
I think it's the Arizona Cardinals. Do you have a
surprise team wh should keep an eye on this year?

Speaker 8 (30:44):
I don't know if you can call them surprise, but
I sure think that the Texans bound. The Texans had
a great year two years ago, then last year they
had some injuries. They're dealing with a terrible offensive line,
which is something they're going to have to get over.
But Tamiko Ryans runs the defense, and that defense is

(31:05):
going to be top three in the NFL. And so
I think Houston re establishes themselves as a solid playoff
contender this year. I don't know if that can qualify
for a surprise team. I'm really having a hard time
finding a team that wasn't last year and trying to

(31:29):
see if that team will be this year. The other
one could be Jacksonville, But when I look at Jacksonville analytically,
there's just so many questions, and then there's so much
pressure on that quarterback who we don't really know is
all that hyped up? I mean he was hyped up,
but is the all that the hype suggests that. I

(31:51):
think we'll find that out this year, one way or another.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
All right, lou last question quickly. We haven't had a
repeat Super Bowl champion since Moby Dick was a minto.
Does Philly repeat?

Speaker 8 (32:06):
I think it's AFC this year, So no, I don't
think Philly repeats. I think you're gonna see it's either
B or B, Baltimore or Buffalo. I really think that.
And I think Kansas City still may have something to.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Say about it.

Speaker 8 (32:23):
But those three, absolutely, those three teams I believe are
going to be very, very difficult for any NFC team
to contend with.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Lou great stuff man, always well prepared. I appreciate the
strong opinions backed by receipts. I will get you on
again before too long.

Speaker 8 (32:39):
Have a good season, buddy, Thanks, Bernie appreciates you having me.

Speaker 1 (32:43):

minutes away from the midnight hour. Get your fingers warmed
up eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three six
y nine eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. From

(33:27):
where I sit here in Las Vegas in the Pacific
time zone, it will be twelve midnight literally and perhaps
the same for you. But regardless where we all sit,
it will be twelve midnight figurably, hence the midnight hour
and your chance to have the last word. We have
a couple of very provocative topics tonight. The colors have
been fantastic. I expect nothing different here coming up in

(33:49):
nineteen minutes. I'm Bernie Fraderwick comedy line from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back at the Bernie Fatal Show, Fox Sports Radio, Come
to your life from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Just getting started to take you up to three am Pacific,

(34:10):
six am Eastern. We are twelve minutes away from the
midnight hour here in Las Vegas. The clock will strike
midnight here in Las Vegas literally perhaps where you live,
same situation, but for all of us, it's figuratively the
mannight hour, which means you get the last word eight
seven seven nine nine six six three six nine eight
seven seven nine to nine on Fox. Well look forward

(34:32):
to hearing from me. The colors have been fabulous ever
since we started doing this about eighteen months ago, maybe
even longer than that, and we have a we're gonna
hone in on two big topics tonight, but we also
have the rant. So if there's something you want to
rant about that just happened this week, or you just
want to get something off your chest having nothing to
do with the two topics, someone to set up. Fine,

(34:52):
that's what this is about, so people can be heard
from in the midnight hour.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
You get the last word, all right.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Topic number one, we have to let the people weigh
in on the Michigan football situation. If you observe the
comments on Twitter and boards and things this week, very
very very polarizing. The Michigan haters. They wanted Michigan to
burn at the steak, Let's make no bones about it.
They wanted their national championship vacated, they wanted wins vacated,

(35:21):
and they wanted blood. That's what they wanted. They didn't
get that There will be no vacated wins or championships.
It will be no postseason bands. But there are millions
and millions of dollars of fines twenty million dollars or more.
There will be you know, show calls penalties for Jim Harball,

(35:41):
which is kind of silly because I don't think he's
going to come back and coach college football. And there
was language in there that Michigan didn't particularly care for,
having to do with the fact that the NCAA thought
that Michigan's actions warranted postseason bands, perhaps multiple postseason bands,
but Michigan didn't let that language.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
So they're appealing.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
So what do you think did Michigan get off easy
with the slap on the wrist? Is it about what
it should have been, or you know, do you wish
Michigan would have suffered a far more devastating fate, far
more devastating consequences. I have a feeling we're going to
have some good, interesting discussions tonight. And keep in mind,

(36:22):
as I've said for a minute, one the most boring
conversations were everybody agrees that I don't really care if
you bring your personal feelings into this because not everybody's
a Michigan fan. Trust me, their they really have their detractors.
I covered that program for many, many years. You go
into Ohio and on game day with a Michigan play,

(36:43):
you're taking a life in your hands. All right? Uh,
I want to talk about John Gruden. John Gruden actually
had scored a major win in court this past week
here in Nevada in his lawsuit against the NFL. I
know you don't hear about it a hell of a
lot because it's been actually more than three years since

(37:03):
John Gruden filed a lawsuit against the NFL over the
way he was pushed out as head coach at the
Las Vegas Raiders. And now he's got kind of a
nice legal victory on his side because the Nevada Supreme
Court ruled on money that Gruden's case against the NFL
must be litigated in court rather than arbitration. Well, I
think for obvious reasons, because when you go to arbitration, well,

(37:25):
the arbitrator is Roger Goodell, and John Gruden is bent
because he believes that the emails in which that's not
sugarcoatis John Gruden said some very sillacious, inflammatory things were
often racist. John Gruden believes he was singled out and

(37:45):
the emails were leaked intentionally, and he is not taking
a liking to that. The NFL filed the motion to
dismiss the case to compel arbitration, but US District Court
judge said, no, we're denying that motion. You're going to
court Here's what I want people to answer though tonight.
Guess what John Gruden wants to come back and coach.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
Now.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Do I think he'll ever coach in the NFL again? Yeah,
I think you'll see. I think you see. You know,
Led Zeppelin re record the gilligas Alan theme song, and
Cell met in copies before that happens. But John Gruden
wants to come back and coach in college. He talks
about with great fondness. You know, his dad was a

(38:29):
college coach. He was a college coach at pitt His
wife was a cheerleader at Tennessee. And he said, hell, yeah,
I'm interested in coaching back in college because I know
I can help a team. I know I can help
young players get better. I know I can hire a
good staff. I guarantee that I'm But yeah, I'm very
interested in coaching at any level.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
All right.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Remember he does have a Super Bowl titled to his
name in two thousand and three, but he's been out
of coaching now five years. When he resigned from the
Raiders frankly in disgrace following reports that he had used
repeatedly homson logistic language, racist language, and a series of
emails work a period of time. Do you think John
Gruden deserves a chance to come back and coach? And

(39:09):
do you think he will in fact get a chance
to come back and coach. So we've got the mischief situation.
Do you see where they were penalized. Do you believe
their penalty was just? It wasn't enough? Could have been more?
Where do you weigh in on that? John Gruden? The
NFL suit continues, but he wants to come back and coach,

(39:30):
most notably in college. Would you give John Gruden a
second chance? Is he worthy? Do you think he will
in fact get a second chance? And then there's of
course the rant. If you got something that you just
simply want to rant about. Eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six three
sixty nine. We've got John Gruden, We've got Michigan football,

(39:52):
We've got the rant. Keep it locked. It's the midnight hour,
listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. That's right,
you heard the man, Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
My name is Bernie Friddery.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
We are coming to a liner from the Fox Sports
Radio compound here in Las Vegas. We'll take you after
three in Pacific six am Eastern. We are just getting started.
We have the as Lee Hamilton would say, the topics
on the table for the midnight hour Michigan Football. I
laid out their punishment with receipts. Was it too much?

(40:29):
Was it not enough? Right where it should have been?
We all know the haters wanted to burn at the steak.
How do you feel John Gruden scored a big win
in court this past week. Roger Goodell can no longer
be the prophet in his own kingdom and this phony
blowning arbitration panel. But moreover, Gruden wants to coach again.
Would you let him? Did you deserve a second chance?

(40:50):
What are your thoughts? Eight seven seven, nine nine six
six three sixty nine eight seven seven nine to nine Fox,
It is the midnight hour, and we take you to
the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where our own Ricky Henderson
in the leadoff spot, Jim in Massachusetts jointed Just to
lead things off, Jim, you've got the floor.

Speaker 9 (41:11):
Hey, Bernie. As far as Michigan, Ohio state and the drama,
I mean, that's just between those two states and the NCAA.
Why don't they just concentrate on getting women out of
guy's sports and vice versa. Concentrate on that. Don't worry
about all this other stuff. No, you know, no one
cared about the you know, spying on signals and all

(41:34):
this stuff. You've still got to go out and play
the game. I mean that was brought up on Belichick
and the pros and all that, none of it when
it went anywhere. To me, it sounds more like, you know,
just solid grapes, you know. I mean, they should be
concentrate more on getting you know, males out of female sports.

Speaker 10 (41:52):
And as far as.

Speaker 1 (41:55):
What was the other one, well, John Gruden, John Gruden
is I.

Speaker 9 (42:01):
Love John Gruden. I hope he buries them. I've read
everything about this that has come out, everything that's been
a you know, the the iPhone and all that other
stuff about that. I love John Gruden, and I'm a
Giants fan, but I love Gruden. I think he's good
for the NFL. I think he should be back coaching
in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (42:22):
Question, do you think he will get a shot to
coach again? He he said he wants to come back and
coach in college, but you know, he wouldn't turn down
an NFL gig either.

Speaker 9 (42:30):
No, he wants the NFL. He's just saying that he's
an NFL guy all the way. In my opinion from
watching it all my lifetime, and I'm an old folge,
he belongs in the NFL. I mean he's a character
just like some of the pro athletes. He's like a
Bill pots Cells type. They need him in the NFL.
And I just hope rose Elli get is buried, you know,

(42:53):
with all that he leaked at and everybody.

Speaker 11 (42:55):
Knows that you don't you don't need a PhD to.

Speaker 9 (42:58):
Find out, you know, that was all arsenal and stuff
like that. So I hope he gets he gets buried.
And the last thing, you know, the w NBA is
going into contract. I think this is the last year
for them, I really do, with all that's going on,
the officiating it and all that's come out that it's

(43:19):
all been you know, like a rigged and they've been
getting you know, stipends to go on trips and stuff
like that because they want what they want. It was
almost like a club until Caitlin clot got there and
exposed them to what talent really is, you know, not
the you know, your sexual orientation, any of that, but
really good talent, and everybody's going to see her. Everybody's

(43:43):
buying her, give buying her. Stuff's way.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
You're a pretty measured guy. And look, I couldn't give
a horses petuit about the w NBA. I think I'm
pretty well on the record for that. But you do
know they've just taken in about two hundred and fifty
million dollars in expansion fees and their new TV dract
kicks in next year. So is there is there really
any valid, you know, justification for your position that they're

(44:11):
done after this year?

Speaker 9 (44:12):
Well, Silver's gonna come and say, you know what, you
to fix this or you're not getting your money.

Speaker 3 (44:18):
They're not gonna fix it.

Speaker 9 (44:19):
It's a culture, Bernie. How are you gonna change a
culture that's been there?

Speaker 1 (44:25):
They're obstinate. Adam Silver is an empty suit in many
in many ways, with all due respect, he's no David
Stern and.

Speaker 9 (44:33):
By the way, but money, Bernie, money talks everything else walks.
But they don't have the money. They don't have a lead.
That's how you handle that.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (44:40):
Jimmy always lead us off and you don't mess around.
You take big swings and we all know that you
meant Roger Goodell, not the late great Pete Roselle, Stephen,
Kansas City. Here it comes. Buckle up, everybody, Steve here up.

Speaker 12 (44:53):
Next, buddy, Hey, well we gotta we got an all
star lineup? Tod Hi man Jamis I always like all
star lineup. I always like following Jim A strong, strong caller.
What about Michigan. I think the n c A. I
thank goodness the NCA is finally done that they are

(45:16):
done prosecuting all these If you're not to borrow and
old NASCAR phrase, if you're not cheating to try and
beat Ohio State, you're not trying. So uh, I think
the punishment was exactly exactly correct. What was the other
John Gruden?

Speaker 1 (45:32):
Uh?

Speaker 12 (45:36):
Okay, I'm I'm with my guy, Jim. I want I
heard he wants to go SEC once it's successful. I
would love I would love to see John Gruden in
the SEC. This is about giving. This is a good
object lesson for these kids to give him. Give him
us a quote unquote second chance. You know, I wouldn't

(46:01):
have any problem with that at all. I don't know
what people are so struck up about.

Speaker 1 (46:05):
You know, Well, let's be fair to try to maintain
our objectivity. I know you're asking sort of a rhetorical question,
but you've read those emails and they're pretty salacious and
they're pretty damning well.

Speaker 12 (46:17):
But my question is if if you had every one
of your communications in your life put out there on
Front Street, would you come off of I'm not saying
that you would be red. I'm not saying they'll be racist,
But what I'm saying is is, you know those don't
don't throw stones if you're in if you're in a
glass house. Roger Goodell is way too liberal for my taste.

Speaker 9 (46:42):
I would love to.

Speaker 12 (46:43):
See all the all of his strategy emails put put
out there. Let's just let's just I'm not going to
prosecute John Gruden now if he screws up for the
college kids, and then surefire him, you know if he can't.
If he can't, But I got a feeling these guys
in college or Mary Switzer earned out to be.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
So turned out.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
Last you think that press conference?

Speaker 1 (47:05):
Do you think they could sell that press conference? The
what the It's a phraseology we used to use when
I cover the lines every time we brought in a
new coach. Part of hiring a new coach is you've
got to sell the press conference. People have to buy.
And so, ladies and gentlemen, the Mississippi Rebels, here's your
new coach.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
John Gruden.

Speaker 1 (47:22):
Boy, there's gonna there's gonna be some goofas. But but
you got the last word.

Speaker 12 (47:26):
Go well, Jimmy, Jimmy Johnson said, end up pretty good
in my comment about the w n B A and
all the you know, money talks and then BS walks,
and I think eventually the money let them go on strike.
Eventually the money.

Speaker 9 (47:39):
My my.

Speaker 12 (47:42):
The problem is the problem is you have to respect
the culture that you're in, just like I'm kind of
doing a wild card here with the Minnesota cheerleaders that
are bubbling under the you know, the crisis with people
canceling the season tickets. You have to respect the fact
that people want to she Tate and Clark that you
can't let her get her and an angel get brutalized

(48:05):
in the name of hazing. You know, you have to
be respectful of the market. Churina, And that's what the
w n B A and UH and the NFL with
the Minnesota viker. We don't want to see male cheerleaders
in pomp poms getting flagged.

Speaker 10 (48:19):
That's fine.

Speaker 12 (48:20):
I got no problem with male cheerleaders. But we got
we got a real crisis with some of our some
of our executives not figuring out that you have to
respect the markets that you're in or else they're going
to be out of business. So that's all I got.

Speaker 1 (48:34):
Burn, Thank you, pretty appreciated, Steve, and uh so part
of our been that hour is the rent and and
and Jim took advantage talking about the w n B
A and Steve's same situation in Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
You're fine.

Speaker 1 (48:47):
If you got a rant, I want to hear it.
I would say this just ever so quickly. I double Doug,
triple Doug. Dare the w NBA to going straight? They
tried that mischieon Goss back in two thousand and one,
and David's and said, do you go on strike?

Speaker 2 (49:01):
I shut down the league. Now they're in a little.

Speaker 1 (49:03):
Different leverage position now, but they've managed to drop a
billion three in the last twenty seven years. That's a
billion with a b hollering James, you are up next
where you been, buddy, It's been a while, hollering James,
hollering James going once.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
Are you there?

Speaker 1 (49:22):
Hollering James, Yeah, you are off. Holler in James, let's card.
I thought you're doing Mark, You're Marcel Marceaul imitation. There
been a while. Where are you been? You're up?

Speaker 2 (49:31):
You got the floor hollering James.

Speaker 11 (49:33):
I does because some meds and they're heavy.

Speaker 13 (49:37):
Duty meds and that will be out like a light.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
What are your thoughts on John Gruden? What are your
thoughts on Michigan?

Speaker 12 (49:46):
My thoughts jud John Gruden?

Speaker 8 (49:48):
Thoughts I had Michigan?

Speaker 10 (49:50):
Are the calls that go first? Gee?

Speaker 3 (49:54):
Oh b e age e?

Speaker 14 (49:59):
Are birds.

Speaker 1 (50:04):
All right? Holler James? Thanks for checking in, Buddy. I
love Howard and James. He just might have got into
Grandpa's coff ser tonight if you get my drift. But
color and James is always welcome. Christopher in London, enjoying
his new digs in London on a lovely Sunday morning. There, Christopher,
thanks for taking time to reach out. Formerly of North Carolina,

(50:27):
now London, England.

Speaker 13 (50:29):
Well, i's fifty eight degrees. It's Chris, and I'm starting
my morning with Earl gre hy yea ye, so Ernie
being born and raised in Michigan. It amazes me about
the fact that Michigan, who has gone out of its
way many different ways of cheating in different respects, and
when that happened, or when someone wasn't appropriate, what would happen.

(50:52):
They would be fired. Remember the old bull shlick days.
If you weren't true blue, you were done. Bill Frieder,
You're gone, Michigan.

Speaker 1 (51:00):
You cheated.

Speaker 13 (51:01):
You should pay the price. It's not money, it should
be games. You got caught. Hey, what you did. I
don't think it's sufficient. I'd be really sad to see that.
But that's the NCAA.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
And by the way, just just have to reconstrate Christopher.
The NCAA spoke about that, and I should have articulated
it better in my opening monologue. They were never going
to vacate games because they never used any ineligible players,
and had that happen, that would have been a different story.
But that was what prevented them from having any games,
or certainly the championship vacated, because they never used any

(51:35):
any ineligible players.

Speaker 2 (51:36):
Continue on.

Speaker 13 (51:38):
That's a fair point, and I respect what you're saying,
but I think the penalty for the coaching staff is
and it isn't sufficient. I think it should have been
five games. And I think that's where this is where
the NCAA is continuing to cater to those that have money.
Mister Gruden, Hey, if you don't want the NFL, go
the way that what's going on here at North Carolina,

(51:59):
take the twenty five million, be an NCAA coach, live
your life the where you want. You're not under the
stress because these eighteen to twenty year olds are going
to listen to you and they're going to do what
you say because they want to be in your program.

Speaker 1 (52:13):
Well, I'm sure he would love that, Christopher. The question
is do you think he's going to get that chance
to come back? And CODE don't.

Speaker 13 (52:21):
I don't think they're going to give him any chance
based on the severity of the emails and the information
that he presented. I think he's going to pay a ban.
I think this is just his way to try and
force this to happen. And I'm sorry for him, but
he he got it posed. He said what he said,
and you can't take it back. So now you're going
to pay the price. And that's the bottom line. So

(52:43):
the bottom line for me, I have to get ready
to watch what we call soccer, meaning football in England.
God help me, I need a drink already. Thank you
for taking my call, Ol.

Speaker 2 (52:54):
Sorr, I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (52:55):
Christopher in London, formerly of North Carolina. Poppy is up?

Speaker 2 (53:00):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (53:00):
Poppy?

Speaker 15 (53:02):
Hey?

Speaker 13 (53:03):
Bernie?

Speaker 15 (53:04):
Well with Michigan, you know, like you called it in
the midnight hour and stuff like that, but uh, you know,
you know it wasn't a harsh punishment where he got
like they won the championship and you know, Harball went
to the Chargers and he's having a great time how
I predicted. And we can't wait to see the Chargers

(53:25):
see what they do this season on the AFC West.
I don't think the Chargers, I mean, sorry, Bernie, I
don't think that the Chiefs are gonna win ten in
a row. I think the Chargers and the Buncles and
even the Raiders are going to give him competition in
the AFC. With now talking about Gruden screwing in, coach
screwed in with Chucky. I really love Chucky. I'm excited.
I think look, Roger Goodell did a bad job like

(53:47):
leading that information and the information it worked the first time,
and they did it again the second time until he
got fired. You know, David didn't want to let him go.
But I think Chucky, I'm really excited. I don't know
he you know, he won an eventa the lawsuit, right,
so it's interesting what he wants to do. Did he
want to go back to an NFL with the right

(54:08):
team or go to college. Wherever he goes, he's going
to be successful. So I'm cheering for him and coming
back and maybe yeah, helping the future kids will be good. Right,
And another thing that's on my mind. Uh, you know, Wnba,
no comment, but I will when I want to talk
about at UFT three nineteen, Chiliam tim I s the

(54:32):
new middleweight champion. He dominated duplex like dominating, and he's amazing.
When I saw him fight, it was just he outstriked
him like five hundred and something to like fifty, control
them the whole thing, ground and pound just just as
amazing with Tamaya and you know how he said he
smashed his head and beat his opponent and that was

(54:54):
a really.

Speaker 9 (54:55):
Good fight tonight.

Speaker 15 (54:55):
So that thank you.

Andrew, Thanks to your patients. What do you got for
us tonight?

Speaker 16 (56:36):
What's up? Bernie? Uh?

Speaker 3 (56:39):
So?

Speaker 16 (56:39):
For John Gruden? I don't think there should be any
place for any racism or any of the stuff. I
don't know exactly what he said, but I just I
don't think he should ever get a chance again unless he,
you know, goes through some kind of counseling and then
some statement and just more time. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (57:03):
Do you think he will get a chance, because I
think there's going to be a fair amount of folks
that are in your camp there. This is just hard
one to get over. Not that it can't, but it's
a pretty big hump to get over. Do you think
he will get a chance.

Speaker 16 (57:21):
I think it's possible.

Speaker 2 (57:24):
What are your thoughts on? Go ahead?

Speaker 16 (57:26):
Yeah, I hope he doesn't. But my rant, I'm going
to skip the Michigan my rant is from a while ago.
But I always thought that Colin Kaepernick to kneel during
the national anthem. I always thought that the flag represents
the Constitution, and the Constitution basically has laws that are

(57:52):
to benefit people's human rights and civil rights, and so
I felt like the protest was just missed. Not that
he shouldn't have something that he wants to protest, but
I just wanted to throw that.

Speaker 1 (58:06):
Out, all right, fair enough, I heat for the record,
anything else, say, Andrew, No, that's it, thanks for calling
it for the record. Colin Koperning wasn't the only player
that kneeled during that season, but there were other more
talented players who were managed to remain in the league. Look,
I covered the lines up close in personal ten years
pre and post CBS Radio and Detroit.

Speaker 2 (58:28):
Colin kat Prinek hadn't.

Speaker 1 (58:29):
Been three and sixteen in his last couple of years
and wasn't basically a glorified readoption only quarterback. He'd gotten
a job, he would have stayed in the NFL. And
it's not worth debating anybody because people's minds are made
up about that about that subject. But be that as
it may, we don't have to take up a collection plate.
He had a serviceable NFL career, got to a Super

(58:50):
Bowl and made forty two million dollars? What am I
supposed to deal? Feel sorry for him? Andre in Massachusetts,
Thanks for hanging on, buddy. What have you got for
us tonight? Harry?

Speaker 8 (59:02):
How you doing than?

Speaker 10 (59:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (59:05):
Yeah, well fired up my dog.

Speaker 8 (59:08):
He's got to get up.

Speaker 3 (59:09):
Snack of ruse. He's uh just fired up this tonight.
I think that's because uh he's a Michigan Wolverine fan,
he says. I appreciate it how they were, you know,
won that Natty, which was good not just for me,
I think they earned yeah. Yeah, also for the Big
ten right to uh relink with the nc double. Excuse
me the SEC strongholds over that title. But uh a

(59:30):
slap on the wrist for Michigan and kind of showing
the type of nature of the n C double A
you know, and frankly it's an outdated institution. Uh, it
has no real backbone in power. The super conferences run
everything based on the TV megadeals, uh, and what's frustrating
in these instances, the horses already at the barn, so

(59:50):
it's not turning around. But when these blue brook blood
programs are caught, uh Michigan in terms of football, in
North Carolina in terms of basketball, on and on and on,
there's no real penalty, right because I go back to
this with North Carolina, who was caught a couple of
years ago operating a completely fraudulent academic department, caught red handed.
This is going back early two thousands when they won

(01:00:11):
the Natty, you know five with three all Americans, May
Felton in the camps and Antaa said, you know, we're
just you know, we're going to give you sensitivity training
or something like that. So you don't penalize the blue Buds.
But then you can amid major like Memphis as they're growing. Oh,
Memphis can take them, get a real penalty because Califari
is somebody that we can say, you're a.

Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
Very learned man. You I'm sure you know that USC
faced tremendous penalties after the Regie Bush situation. Penn State,
the schools have had Victory's vacating, and I think at
a punishment is is relative a right. I mean, the
Michigan was punishing part of the punishment as the process.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
But all right, be that as I may. You don't.

Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Do you feel Michigan kind of got off with a
slap of the risk basically, is what I'm hearing from you, Right,
that's fair.

Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
Indeed, indeed, flap on the wrist, and it's these penalty
are coming from a different error when the NTUAA actually
did have you know, the authority you know, And I
just think now with the nil and everything else, they
just need to focus more on fixing college football rather
than pretending that they are this authority figure. In terms
of John Gruden, he's.

Speaker 9 (01:01:17):
A good coach.

Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
You know, he's a benefit of the game. He has
a lot, you know, it'd be good to have John
Gruden in football. And by the way, he wasn't the
subject of that investigation. They were going after Daniel Snyder
and he happened to get caught up. Does that justify
any of the things that they unearthed about him? Absolutely not,
And those things are on the record for him and
it's a part of who he is. Do I feel

(01:01:38):
that he should be canceled because of that? No, I
personally don't feel he should be canceled, but I don't
have a problem with him, with him facing those penalties
that that he's faced because of what was unearthed. In
terms you know, how are you going to you know,
it's like this. It goes back to football with my
how I disdain how these coaches rail against nil, but
then they have these ten year guaranteed contracts one hundreds

(01:02:01):
of millions of dollars, but they have a problem with the
end the kid getting having similar leverage and power. But
you know, they themselves are are not held to that
same standard of accountability. They get these super contracts and
nobody can tell them anything. But now that the kids
have to say so and some pushback, you know they're
running for the hills. It's the same thing with John Druden.
How can you expect the team of guys and men

(01:02:22):
to follow you when when when you're on the record
with those things, and he hasn't really beyond defending himself,
I haven't really seen much accountability.

Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
No, I haven't seen a whole lot of contrition.

Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
I don't really Yeah, I'm.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
The least racist person you know, and all that that stuff,
And I get it in terms of he doesn't act
that way in his professional capacity as a coach. You know,
he keeps all of that to himself. But at the
same time, if you're leading in a league that's seventy
percent African American and those things are on the record,
you need to come closer to the center, you know,
and you know, try to mend some of those fences,

(01:02:55):
which which he hasn't done. But at the same time,
if he can't, if he can do that and lead
it team, and I think you should get an opportunity.
But it may it may or may not happen, Okay,
but you know, he didn't do nearly enough at this particular.
I'm not for canceling people. I'm for people having their opinion.
And again it wasn't it was private that became public.
It's different than other instances of out and out racism

(01:03:17):
and discrimination. But he needs to do a lot more
there in terms of in terms of coming back to
the Senate. Arnie, So thanks taking a call. I appreciate
the show, and I'll listen to the other college.

Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
All right, Thanks so much, Andre, I appreciate your time
as always, Joel and Charleston, and I'm very curious of
your thoughts on tonight's subject matter. Harry Jerome, all right.

Speaker 11 (01:03:39):
You will never give another chance, and it ain't going
to happen. But I got told you before, what's in
the dark will come to the light.

Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
You're leader.

Speaker 11 (01:03:47):
Look, I've spent eight years in the military. Mayor. You
can't have you even talking right there anyway. People are
going to follow somebody like that. He's done, and he
walked around. He didn't do anything. That's the worst, one of.

Speaker 8 (01:04:03):
The worst thoughts about it.

Speaker 11 (01:04:04):
Not only would he shed and he didn't have to
say that stuff. And when Kyrie Irvan made his anti
the medic comments, the Anbia came down on him hard.
Maybe they didn't fan him, but they taught him a
very good left. Okay, he lost his shoe company, he
got fined, he got suspended. They probably would have thrown
him out of the leaves stuff, they could do it,

(01:04:25):
but they couldn't do that. By that, they came down
on him pretty hard, all right. The other thing about
what else were you talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
We were talking about Michigan and their penalty.

Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
The verdict is in and a lot of folks wanted
him to burn at the steak and have their wins
vacated and their championship vacated other people, you know, thought
the punishment was too hard for what are you wearing.

Speaker 11 (01:04:48):
Let me say this about Harball. A guy that is
as controlling as that guy will doesn't know anything about it.

Speaker 14 (01:04:55):
You will never make me believe that.

Speaker 11 (01:04:57):
No, no, not the control free that guy is.

Speaker 10 (01:05:01):
He knew all about it.

Speaker 8 (01:05:02):
He tried to hide it.

Speaker 11 (01:05:03):
You had athletes on your network him on and tried
to send him after. I said, oh he knew about
call me a liar and all kinds of stuff. Well,
who's the liar now? Okay. I believe in the truth.
The truth will always set you free. And for him
to do that, hey, he's gone. He was under a
lot of pressures. He's been there like about eight eight

(01:05:24):
eight eight nine years or something like that before they
won that Max TO Championships.

Speaker 1 (01:05:29):
Yeah fifteen, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:05:32):
So he was desperate and when people get defferent sometimes
they do crazy things. And this was just another big
gamble of it.

Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
That's about it, all right, jerm thanks for fourth just
because I know I got a lot of Michigan fans
listening to the show and maintaining an objectivity here, I
cut my teeth in radio covered Michigan football I'm still
very connected. There they are in the National Championship. In
my view, they blocked and tackled better than anybody else.
Just let's just be honest about that, all right. The
rest of this stuff is in pretty but it ain't,

(01:06:00):
you know it is. It's not like they're reinventing the
wheel here, Lamont in Las Vegas, June.

Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
Just welcome in. Lamont, has it on good?

Speaker 1 (01:06:09):
You not too bad?

Speaker 11 (01:06:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (01:06:11):
No, Like the last two guys, they're pretty much fought
on about the Gouden situation. You know, I'm a retired
military vet.

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
Thank you, thank you for your service, and thank you
Lamont for yours.

Speaker 14 (01:06:21):
Well, I appreciate you guys. You know, like when it
comes to the whole racist stuff, I guess there's time
and place. I'm a black guy, so there's a time
and place for a little funny jokes. But when you're like
just blatantly racist and there's like no remorse behind it,
there's no place for that, you know, like it's don't
get me on.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
And especially and especially Lamon if you're overseeing a major
enterprise like an NFL team, where it's just it's just
it's go ahead, continue on.

Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
I just wanted to find their point.

Speaker 14 (01:06:53):
Like like, uh, in the military, if you are a
commander or a first sergeant or whatever your position may be,
if you lose offense to your people, your career is friede.
I'm trying not to cut you know, you know, it's
just one of those things. But when you when you
lose confidence of your people, there's no coming back from that,
like your career.

Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
Well, look look what happened to Donald Sterling twelve years ago,
the owner of the Clippers. Here's the guy over. Here's
a guy.

Speaker 14 (01:07:20):
They pushed him out.

Speaker 1 (01:07:21):
They had to you had words matter, and they're like.

Speaker 14 (01:07:27):
You know, I get it if you make it like
a little like you know, a little small joke here,
slow joke there. But the stuff that Gruton was saying,
that's just egregious.

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Well he was abrasion enough to put it in writing too,
and that's kind of that that makes it all the wars.

Speaker 14 (01:07:42):
No wrong, I'm one hundred percent with the privacy whatever,
But when you know your emails can be leaked and
you're still that confident to say that kind of stuff, come.

Speaker 1 (01:07:53):
On, man, let's be real, you know, yeah, so hey
real quickly, Uh, Michigan, what are you weighing on on
their final verdict.

Speaker 14 (01:08:01):
Ah, Man, Honestly, I really think Harbad did what he
had to do, because let's be real, there's a lot
of like when we're in sports, where we're playing sports,
Like when I was in the military, my drill started
to tell me, if you're not cheating, not trying, So
should he have punishment? Yeah, but they shouldn't ship them
from the titles because Michigan was already a great team, yeah,

(01:08:25):
for years from years and years. So just because he
did what he did, I don't feel that that gave
them a leverage to you know, get more wins. You know,
could it Yeah, but would it makes a difference, Not really,
because Michigan was already one of those teams that if
you saw your favorite team going to get them, you're like, oh, man, hoe,
we can win this week.

Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
You know, Lauran, thanks for checking in, Man, don't be
a stranger. We do this every Saturday night, and you know,
look for for what it's worth, Teams employ various tactics
in all sports. They got caught, they didn't cooperate. That
added to the issue, but again they blocked and tackled
pretty damn good that year. Beat Penn State, Ohio, State, Alabama, Washington.

(01:09:08):
They had a breaking Dear, there's snacks, gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Oh boy, Alert the kids, wake the neighbors. Grandpa put
on pants.

Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
Man, well from Guardina, Man, well we're in the hell
have you been? Man?

Speaker 14 (01:09:24):
They say, I'm leaving it, budd.

Speaker 7 (01:09:26):
It takes so my time because I just won't to
celebrate Bernie. I've been bringing home the bacon man the
last few weeks. I've been having some jobs that I
had to really hyper hyper focused and I couldn't call.
But I've been listening. Then great as usual. So let's
get down to brass tacks. My man Grooting always loved

(01:09:49):
the guy. You know, I'm a huge Raider fan, echoin
on when a few people said there's no place for
the racism that he exhibited, but it is. It's kind
of a weird thing because there was an invasion of
his privacy, you know, so it doesn't absolve him, but
I don't know, man, it's just kind of iffy. He

(01:10:10):
will get another shot though. You and I both know
that Bernie. He's a brand. Hey is knowledgeable, He's a guru.
On offense, someone is gonna pick him up, even if
it's some directional school from eastern Tennessee.

Speaker 14 (01:10:26):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
I don't know if it accept that. I think he's
got a delusion.

Speaker 1 (01:10:30):
He wants to coach in the SECERI, he wants to
coach in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:10:33):
And man, that's Ralph.

Speaker 11 (01:10:35):
We don't always get what we want.

Speaker 9 (01:10:37):
Bernie.

Speaker 7 (01:10:37):
You know that if he wants to be out there,
he's got to take what they're gonna give him straight up.

Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
That's fair, go ahead.

Speaker 7 (01:10:47):
When it comes to Big Blue, you know, I'm reminded
of this every time someone gets caught scheety, whether it's
Big Blue, whether it's the Astros, whether it's Tatis Junior
with herog I get reminded of that.

Speaker 8 (01:11:07):
You know, the.

Speaker 7 (01:11:08):
Braakfast Club, I know you remember it. Of course, it
gets jammed up by his dad, and his dad's like, hey, guys,
screw around, man, guys screw around. But guess what, buddy,
you got caught.

Speaker 14 (01:11:20):
And that's what happens.

Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
Cheaters.

Speaker 7 (01:11:22):
There's cheaters in all sports. And when you get caught,
you got to face some music.

Speaker 17 (01:11:28):
Man.

Speaker 7 (01:11:28):
And if the hammer drops, the hammer drops. But unfortunately
for the empty two A they're like a toothless kit bull.

Speaker 13 (01:11:37):
So good luck with that.

Speaker 7 (01:11:39):
Hey, love you, Bernie, thanks.

Speaker 1 (01:11:41):
For checking in man. Well, appreciate you. Bud Rick and
Louisiana joins us.

Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
Hi Rick, are you yes?

Speaker 16 (01:11:47):
Bernie?

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
How are you doing good?

Speaker 9 (01:11:49):
Buddy good?

Speaker 10 (01:11:51):
Thanks for taking my call. As far as the three subjects,
well rant to come at the end. But as far
as Michigan, I mean, I don't. I don't really catch
all of it. But most of that I did catch
was that, you know a lot of them will Christening
why I was more being punished for something that Hawball did.
What are your thoughts?

Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
He was part of the staff, he erased some text messages,
there was evidence.

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
That he was complicit.

Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
So fortunately, fortunately you know a couple of games suspension.
He's gonna lose his job? No not no, hell no,
he's not gonna lose his job. A couple of game
suspension here and there, onward and upward, go.

Speaker 10 (01:12:26):
Ahead, okay. And the next one is Gruton. And I'm personally,
I generally think you know, I'm good for you know,
I think people deserve second chances. But I don't think
you know some of the comments that I read. I mean,
first of all, if you are sending an email and
it's on your job, then you know somebody, you know,

(01:12:48):
had the capability of reading that. And some of the
comments he made about his his boss, I quote unquote
the commissioners, that was kind of foul man, like, that's
a good brave And you know they told us on
our jobs that you know, don't don't send out certain emails.
Don't say stuff only because there's always somebody reading those emails.

(01:13:10):
So if he called it a leap, but that's somebody
else doing their jobs. I mean, if you're sending pictures
and stuff on your job that you shouldn't be sending,
your days are probably numbers. And mentioned that, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
Real quickly, Rick, did you send you you had a
certain thing you wanted to touch on.

Speaker 10 (01:13:29):
Yeah. The certain thing is I'm going out here again,
just like I did with the Lakers a while back.
I think the Cowboys, and I'm a cowboys, sayan are
going to the Super Bowl and they'll probably be using
the tickets. They'll probably be using the tickets that the
NFL gives.

Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
I fell into that one man man and.

Speaker 10 (01:13:51):
They got some problems. And the other thing is that
I think that the teams that you probably should watch
all the Wales. Is the Rams as well. I was
seeing in pre season that Stison Bennet is playing, so
hopefully he's got all of whatever he had gone worked out.
But you know Stison Bennett was in Georgia.

Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
Was did a great champion Georgia.

Speaker 17 (01:14:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
The other Rams, you know they got a defense.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
We'll see is Sean McVay is always give me competitive
rick good stuff as always. The minute I will continue, Dave,
and here you will wrap things up. I'm Bernie Frattle.
We are coming to your live from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio studios. They can stay and listening to
the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. We're back
of the Bernie Frattle Show, wrapping it up on the

(01:14:38):
midnight hour Fox Sports Radio. Dave and Phoenix by way
of Michigan. I'm sure you've got some real thoughts on
the Michigan verdict.

Speaker 17 (01:14:49):
I do, Bernie. I've been a Michigan fan for well
over half a century. I don't know how many people
you know who've been to the last six final fours
that Michigan and spent in starting in nineteen seventy six,
but I'm one. I was at the nineteen sixty nine
Michigan Ohio State.

Speaker 11 (01:15:06):
Game, twenty four to twelve.

Speaker 9 (01:15:08):
Pretty big game.

Speaker 17 (01:15:09):
And I could go on and on, but I'm not
a homer. I'm not blind.

Speaker 14 (01:15:16):
I try to look at the facts, and.

Speaker 17 (01:15:19):
I wonder how many of these Michigan people defended the
Houston Astros and said that they did absolutely nothing wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
So you bring up a very pragmatic point. So the
bottom line is you think the punishment was just.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
Well, I think they got off really light.

Speaker 17 (01:15:37):
I mean, I've never seen an investigation where the committee
comes out and says on page fifty one, I believe
that the infractions were bad that a postseason ban is required,
a two year.

Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
Postseason I talked about my opening monologue. Good good point,
good point, right.

Speaker 17 (01:15:56):
And they, of course, their justification for not doing it
is that it would affect players who weren't there at
the time the violations. But that's always going to be
the case. The violations are always in the past, so
if there's going to be any punishment, it has to
affect people who unfortunately weren't there when it happened.

Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
No, it's a very mesure, it's a very measured it's
a very measured call deve uh And interestingly enough, look,
Michigan's even they're they're appealing, that they're appealing because they
don't like the language.

Speaker 10 (01:16:29):
Amazing.

Speaker 17 (01:16:31):
And you know what, another thing people keep saying is
that it's only Michigan State and Ohio State people that
think Michigan did anything wrong.

Speaker 14 (01:16:39):
Everybody else, you know.

Speaker 17 (01:16:40):
Supposedly supports Michigan thinks they did nothing wrong.

Speaker 9 (01:16:43):
Well, that is not true.

Speaker 17 (01:16:45):
I've read columns from across the country by national writers
who did not go to Michigan State or Ohio State
that are very critical of what Michigan did. I mean,
somebody should read Pat forty, he wrote a great columns.
Stuart mandel Connor, I could go on and on. None
of these people went to Michigan State or Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
Yeah, there is some objectivity out there, and I think
the consensus, Dave is they did get a bit of
a slap on the wrist, and they're not going to
vacate wins because they didn't use any of the eligible
players and they're not going to get a postseason ban
for the reasons you just outlined. And Michigan didn't like
the way it was worded. So they see here's what's interesting.
They lose nothing by appealing because they can't get any

(01:17:29):
worse penalties, and they're trying to you know, they're like
Jimmy Jo Harbaugh a lot, so they want his show
cost penalty. So it's all it's all part of the
it's all griss for the mil. Do you have any
thoughts on Johnny Gruden?

Speaker 8 (01:17:41):
Quickly, Yeah, I do.

Speaker 17 (01:17:45):
I think some of these people who are supporting Gruden
need to actually listen to the words of what he
said about Morris Smith in those emails, and.

Speaker 18 (01:17:57):
It was pretty terrible.

Speaker 17 (01:17:58):
It was, you know, to make a historical comparison, and
what Gruden did is not as bad as what Ben
Chapman did. But when Jackie Robinson broke in, ben Chapman
was the manager of the Phillies and the racism that
he exhibited was so severe to Jackie Robinson. That's something
people really should look up. But sadly, I get the

(01:18:19):
feeling that some of these people who are defending Gruden
would also defend ben Chapman and say that he should
get another chance.

Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
Dave always appreciates your calls.

Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
Man, You spaced him out, but good stuff, and I
think it's going to be a tough sell. Honestly, for
John Gruden to get back into a Power conference team
a couple of commons.

Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Sposweed said, my entire twenty five career.

Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
In sales and in the army, I've never put anything
in writing, especially in an email, that would reflect bad.
I mean, John Gruden was stupid, even if he thought
the emails are private.

Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
He deserves his come up. It's Hugh on the.

Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
Five, number one Michigan joins usc U, n ov SMU
the like in the mind of you know, the other
schools have had, you know, bad penalties which kind of
never went away in terms of the minds of some
number two. Gruden colorful, smart, witty kookie, just like you
want a football coach. Not the only coach to use
the N word, for sure, But I don't know if

(01:19:18):
that's a justification. Remember every time you're looking at him
and you're a player, you can't unsee or unring that bell.
You just can't do it. So that's going to be
a tough road too. Has always I really appreciate the
callers in the My Night Hour, great stuff coming up.
We switch gears, a little Medina magic in the NBA.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show

(01:19:40):
on Fox Sports Radio. That's right, you heard the man.
The Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along. My name
is Bernie Fraddle. We are company line from the Fox
Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas. Take you up
to the three am Pacific, six am Eastern. Thanks again,
so much much to all the callers patiently waited on hold,

(01:20:03):
got their thoughts, gathered their thoughts, strong opinions tonight in
the midnight hour regarding John Gruden, whether or not he
gets a chance to come back and coach again he
wants it, and whether or not Michigan's penalties punishment. We're
just should have been harsher all that kind of stuff.
But we switched gears ever so quickly at our new

(01:20:25):
time slot because there's always news in the NBA. Twenty
four to seven, fifty two weeks out of the air.
Three simple words. It's that time. Mark Medina Medina Magic
comes to us every Saturday night Sunday morning here on
the Bernie Frodder Show. Actually about sixty five days away
from another NBA season, so we like to stay out

(01:20:47):
ahead of the game. Mark, let me start with something
quickly because a lot of folks, including me, saw the
video of Luca in Slovenia, and a picture can pay
in a thousand words, but it's not always accurate. Uh
What's what can you tell us about whatever injury if
any Lucas suffered on his knee in that in that

(01:21:10):
ballgame in Slovenia.

Speaker 18 (01:21:12):
Yeah, Bernie, it's fluid, but I know Mark Stein first
report and can confirm that there's a feeling he has
a right knee conclusion. Now, it was stressed to me
from people around Luca He's okay, he's fine. When I
was pressing for questions on you know, severity of all that,
that was the message that it's nothing to worry about.

(01:21:33):
Uh So it's almost, you know, a dodging of a bullet.
But I think that, you know, this really encapsulates the
perfect push pool on how NBA teams steal about star
players playing with their international teams every time it's the
Olympics or eurobast or anything else. Teams are always on
pins and needles with that. But they're never going to

(01:21:54):
tell a player out right they can't play further national
team because it means so much to them. But you know,
if you're the Lakers, you're you're nervous about it, but
you're also breathing a little bit of a cyber relief.

Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
Well, so it is. It is a right knee contusion,
which been reported. It's also been reported by reputable agencies
that it's not serious, but soft tissue injuries are weird.
Hat a dollar to play Division one soccer tory ac
all the same knee three times. Have they done an
MRI or have they taken a closer look? I'm not
trying to cast dispersions, but have they really confirmed what

(01:22:27):
they are telling us?

Speaker 18 (01:22:29):
You know that I can't confirm on whether they've done
the MRI or not. This is always fluid. But the
main messaging I got, you know, you take it for
what it's worth. From people around Luka Doncic. They're saying
things like he's okay, he's going to be fine, not
to worry, so we'll see. I tend to believe, you know,
that line. But at the same time, I'm not naive

(01:22:53):
and thinking that injuries could evolve. But I guess the
main thing I would say is that if there was
hovy concern, I've probably met with the radio silence as
opposed to people around him saying nothing to worry about.

Speaker 9 (01:23:08):
He's going to be okay, well.

Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
Fair enough. And one of the things that was reported
is he actually wanted to return to the game. He
came back on the bench with a nice pack on
his knee, wanted to return to the game, but the
Slovenia officials said maybe not today.

Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
So that might be a good sign.

Speaker 18 (01:23:24):
That much, Yeah, abundance of caution. It can always be
a good thing, both for the Salevenian national team and
obviously for the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (01:23:32):
Speaking of the Lakers, the Lakers are going to unveil
a new statue for pat Riley on February twenty second.
I'm biased here, but I think it's very well earned.
What are your thoughts. How is this being received to
be a big ceremony.

Speaker 18 (01:23:46):
Yeah, I think it's very well earned. You know, pat
Riley was part of showtime. I think technically, you know,
Phil Jackson had more success as a Laker head coach
and head coach overall. It's ours number of championships, but
pat Riley in a way almost feels more attached to
the Lakers because you know, he built a lot of
long lasting friendships with the Showtime Lakers. I think it's

(01:24:09):
very telling that for all the Showtime players, they're all
in their sixties now. He was a few years ago
part of putting together a reunion where they all went
to Hawaii and they did like a pseudo training camp
and everyone showed up, whether it was Magic Johnson, James Worthy,
Michael Cooper to role players, so there is a kinship.

(01:24:30):
He has been at other past events, you know, whether
it was other statue on Vailians or Michael Cooper last
year were the Lakers are tiring his jersey because he
was inducted in the Hall of Fame. So I think
it's going to be a very well received ceremony. It's
also fitting that it's coinciding with the Lakers and the
Celtics because pat Riley hated the Celtics then and he

(01:24:54):
hates him now, so it all ties together well.

Speaker 1 (01:24:56):
Of course, two of their championships were with the Sale Takes.
I was up close in personal of those teams for
many years. Hard to believe pat Riley is now eighty
years old, and I understand they've named the court in
Miami to pat Rally Court? Is that is that true?
Down in Miami to eat.

Speaker 10 (01:25:15):
That part.

Speaker 18 (01:25:16):
I'm not sure what if he's surprised though, I mean,
he's in the Godfather there forever, and I think that's
very telling that in his exit meeting at the end
of this past season, he made it very clear that
he feels good, healthy, and he's he wants to still
continue being a part of it as far as being
ahead of the organization calling the shots with personnel moves.

(01:25:36):
So you know, he has a pretty hefty job description
on his hand on how he can make Miami a
viable playoff contender post Jimmy Butler. But you know, as
far as alertness and passion for the job, it's the
same pat rally that we saw in the eighties when
he was wearing those you know, Armani suits that was
you know, resulting him again magazine cover spreads in La.

Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
Yeah, he'd get off, he'd finish the season and goes
straight to Florence Siddeley and spend a month and get
a bunch of new suits made. And that was quite
an error for the Lakers nine finals in twelve years.
He was an assistant of course on Paul west Head's
team that won the championships. So yeah, his legacies is
very secure in my view. The NBA announced what seventy

(01:26:25):
five national TV games this year, of which I believe
the Lakers, The Lakers, the Knicks, the Thunder, and Gold
State will all be a part of thirty four of those.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming NBA schedule?

Speaker 18 (01:26:43):
Yeah, I think as far as the amount of national
TV games for all those teams, it's not surprising.

Speaker 2 (01:26:49):
Now.

Speaker 18 (01:26:50):
Historically the Lakers Next of Warriors have always gotten that
heavy run because of the global appeal, the fact they
have star players. The Thunder, they're the it's the first
time they got it because you know, they're small market team.
But now they're an NBA champion. They have the MVP
and Shay golichs Alexander. But I think what's interesting here
is the Thunders showed in the finals that they can

(01:27:12):
be a ratings troll, and that's not always a given
for a really good team that's in a small market.
Think that the early two thousand San Antonio Spurs. They
have Tim Dunkan, Monigenobi, Tony Parker, and Grey Popovich very
well respected, but to the casual fan, they didn't give it.
You know what, even the Denver Nuggets in twenty twenty three.
They got Nikolay Yokich, the best player in the game,

(01:27:34):
and they're playing at all, you know, caliber level, winning
a championship, and they weren't really much of a rating
s troll here. So I think with the Thunder it's
a little bit different. I mean, Jay Gojess, Alexander, he's MVP,
he's got the International Peal. They have a good young
core that's going to be seen as, you know, a
force to be reckoned with in future years. So you

(01:27:56):
never know, you know which teams lack drawn to an audience,
but I think that here it's safe to say that
the Thunder art going to have that audience because even
when even though the NBA and Adam Silver always talks
about they want competitive balance, they do listen to the marketplace.
And if the Thunder wasn't a team that was wasn't
moving the needle, they wouldn't show them on national TV.

(01:28:18):
But they are a team that draws a lot of interest.

Speaker 2 (01:28:20):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (01:28:21):
I mean, they had legitimate star power, and they validated
their regular season a bout what they did in the postseason,
So I think I think people are going to want
to see how they follow that season up. I think
that's fair. Uh, it's my understanding, marketed every team, every
team in the NBA is going to get at least
two national TV games. I was surprised though the Houston

(01:28:42):
Rockets were way back in the pack, they got like
twenty of them, even though they picked up Kevin Durant.

Speaker 18 (01:28:49):
Yeah, I thought it would be a little bit higher there.
But I'm also not surprised that are not among you know,
the league leaders with Golden State and the Lakers and
Oakham City and New York because they're not in the
biggest market, and you know, they're a team that they're
making progress, but they're not quite there yet. But I

(01:29:11):
thought it would be more in twenty I mean, Kevin
Durant is a generational player, one of the best scorers ever,
and they're going to be a team that, you know,
even though I give the Thunder to the Edge to
repeat and get back to the finals as the West representative,
I think the Rockets have the best shot and challenging
them or even upsetting them because Kevin Durant, he's plugging
play even with injury concerns. When he's on the court,

(01:29:32):
He's an efficient scorer. They got a great young core.
Of the fact that they did not trade Almen Thompson
and Albernson Gooon is part of that deal with Durant
means it's a steal and Adoka is one of the
best coaches of the NBA. So, barring major injury, I
would still give the Thunder to the Edge, but I
think the Rockets can very well challenge them in a

(01:29:52):
playoff matchup.

Speaker 1 (01:29:54):
Tyler Mark, Medeina and Medina Magic are Fox Sports Radio
NBA guru. You hear him every seven night into Sunday
morning here on the Bernie Frattle Show. So as we
look ahead the individual honors, I think it's clear that
while Cooper Flagg may have been the lead horse in

(01:30:15):
a Rookie of the Year Award quest, I understand there's
as many as eleven rookies that could potentially challenge him.

Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
Give us your thoughts on that.

Speaker 18 (01:30:25):
Yeah, I saw that too. I don't buy it. I mean,
barbering a major injury, it's Cooper Flag winning the Rookie
of the Year award and everyone else. That's not to
say that there aren't good rookies in this class. I
mean Dylan Harper, Ace Billy Bailey, contain Nipple. These are
all good players. But when I talk to people around
the NBA before the draft, it was pretty clear it's

(01:30:47):
Cooper Flag and everyone else. So, yeah, he's going to
win the Rookie of the Year award. And I think
you have to look at a few things here. He
has so many different skills. He's a great score, he's
a playmaker, he can end multiple positions. He's used to
being on winning program, so he impacts winning. He's very
adaptable as far as his role is concerned with being

(01:31:10):
a number one, number two or number three option. And
with the Mavericks, this is almost a match made in
heaven because he doesn't have to be that number one
pick that carries a franchise because Anthony Davis and Kyrie
Irving are on that team. They also have, you know,
very respected role players with Derek Lively the second and
Klay Thompson and Daniel Gafford. But there is a lot

(01:31:33):
of fluidity because Kyrie is not going to come back
till midway through the season because of his acl You
never know how limited he will be. Same thing with
Anthony Davis because of his injury history. But you know,
talking to people around him. The key word that they
talk about is adaptability. Cooper Flagg really thrives on it,
and he's really competitive in a student of the game

(01:31:54):
and his harshss credit. Now, Bernie, don't get me wrong,
like Summer League technically doesn't matter. But what I thought
was really cool was the fact that he was so
pissed off that he struggled his first game not becaueing
the ball well, and he immediately rectified it so much
that I was talking to as trainer Matt mackenzie, you know,

(01:32:14):
after his second Summer League game, and he was saying
like he wasn't down on himself and thinking, oh my gosh,
I can't overcome this. But he was legitimately pissed off
for two straight days after this summer League debut. And
that shows me that A he's highly motivated. B he's
his worst critic, and see, he can be a really

(01:32:38):
good bounce back player after a tough out it and
it's inevitable even though he's a special player, he's going
to have, you know, challenging moments because that's what every
rookie has, but he's going to be able to respond
the next game. So given all that he's a Rookie
of the Year. I don't buy this. So there's eleven
other contenders.

Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
Now I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (01:32:57):
And indeed, he's eighteen years old and he's nowhere near
a ceiling. And I bet you remember because Kobe Bryant
turned this into a bit of a signature moment for
him in a positive way as an h year old rookie.
Kobe once shot five airballs in the same game, and
he used that as fuel to get better.

Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
So you know, I think.

Speaker 1 (01:33:21):
There's a lot of a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
Of similarities there.

Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
I wasn't going to bring this up, Mark, but apparently
Lebron and maybe even Anthony Davis both had well some
infamous tweets this week. I'll see if I can paraphrase
having something to do with Sometimes change comes with saying
a lot of goodbyes. Did you happen to see that?
People picked up on it, aggregated it. Maybe there's nothing burger,

(01:33:48):
but with Lebron there's always some sort of agenda.

Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
Did you happen to see that?

Speaker 13 (01:33:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:33:55):
I did.

Speaker 18 (01:33:56):
I don't think I think I should send throwing stuff
on the wall and trowing people being passive aggressive, that's
all Lebron James, does he exercises player option to be
with the Lakers. He's going to play this season with
the Lakers. Yeah, you know, I think it's taling that.
Rob Palinka, after Luca Dotris just signing, said that Lebron
and Rich Paul have been, you know, very professional and

(01:34:19):
a joy to work with. I think when you read
between the lines here, there's not warm, fuzzy feelings amongst
each other, but it's very transactional business like, and that's
what's going to happen. He's going to punch in, punch out,
and he'll retire, you know, after the end of the season.

Speaker 1 (01:34:37):
Mark, as we wrap it up, is there anything on
August when we're into August seventeenth now that I might
have overlooked with respect to you know, an NBA headline that.

Speaker 18 (01:34:49):
Yeah, yes, yes, Bronni James is off season regiment here,
Come on, what do you miss?

Speaker 9 (01:34:55):
Still?

Speaker 2 (01:34:55):
Bring it on?

Speaker 1 (01:34:56):
What do you join George Steery fitness or what?

Speaker 10 (01:35:00):
No?

Speaker 18 (01:35:00):
I mean he was in Vegas Summer League. He didn't
shoot the le ball a lot better.

Speaker 17 (01:35:03):
Now.

Speaker 18 (01:35:04):
I talked with dru Leieu commissioner Dino Smiley. He said
that there was a chance he was going to play
in the summer League. So far it has, I am
any playoffs have already started. That ship sailed. But now
I was being facetious because we do bring up Ronnie,
and sometimes I try to force my way into bringing
that up. So there really wasn't anything to report. Rather
than to give a new hard.

Speaker 1 (01:35:24):
Time, I've got nothing. I've got no problem with it.
It's a recurring motif. It's it's part of our time.
You know, I've never brought this up. But we'll wrap
it up with this because I had a caller about
an hour ago referenced the w NBA and it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:40):
Was none too kind fair you know, it's an open
for I mean, he was.

Speaker 1 (01:35:45):
Fairer about his comments on a scale of what chance
do you give that the WNB would actually I dare
I say strike because I understand their CBA. You know,
I understand their CBA negotiations. If you want to call
them that aren't exactly going swimmingly.

Speaker 18 (01:36:04):
Well, yeah, it's hard for me to give a prediction
if they go on a lockout or not, just because
I'm not following it as much as the NBA. But
I think what we have to keep in mind is
that it's a very fair criticism to talk about, you know, hey,
why are WNBA players asking for more money when historically

(01:36:27):
teams haven't been profitable. It's been subsidized a lot from
MBA owners. But I think what we need to keep
in mind is that ship is about to change here,
not just because of Kaitlin Clark, huge factor, but there's
an overwhelming popularity and interest in women's basketball, and the

(01:36:48):
teams now are making money, and so they're trying to
change the terms so that you know, it's reflective of that.
So there's going to be give and take. I think,
by and large, even if there is a lot of
popularity in the WNBA right now, you never want to
be out of sight, out of mind and this attention economy,

(01:37:09):
and especially in an economy where there's just so much
fluidity with people spending habits. But I do understand both sides.
Historically the WNBA was a sunk cost, but we have
to also keep in mind that currently it is a
profitable business, and so I think the players are trying
to make their voices be heard of adjusting the terms

(01:37:31):
to adapt with those times.

Speaker 1 (01:37:34):
That's about as eloquent as you could put it after
those stupid T shirts they wore, and then they go
out and put that product on display of the All
Star Game. I mean that looked like I almost drop
words that I can't drop on the radio. So we'll
just leave it there. Mark, listen, great stuff, the NBA news.
The NBA clock continues to swirl, and the future always

(01:37:56):
has a way of arriving ahead of schedule.

Speaker 2 (01:37:58):
It won't be long we'll be talking about night in
the NBA.

Speaker 18 (01:38:01):
Yeah, we'll be talking Opening night. And you know, second here,
Brownie James most improved player in Canada. You heard this first.

Speaker 1 (01:38:10):
Uh yeah, it's hard. It's hard to dispute that because
he certainly can't get any worse.

Speaker 18 (01:38:15):
All right, Mark, great after tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
I could don't forget to try to set my bonus,
big Eddy, folks.

Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
Mark always appreciates.

Speaker 18 (01:38:23):
You, Man appreciate you well.

Speaker 1 (01:38:25):
That is Mark Medino. We kid because we care. We're
doing sports talk radio here. Okay, we're not solving the
world's problems. Don't take us too seriously, or actually take
us very seriously.

Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
By the way.

Speaker 1 (01:38:36):

(01:38:59):
what by next week at this time, we will have
college football results. Well that's week zero and they're actually
a couple of interesting matchups. But there's a ton of
storylines involving teams, coaches, players, matchups that is right around

(01:39:21):
the corner, and I want to dive into a few
of them. We're not going to get to all of them,
probably get to the rest of the next week, but
there are a lot of compelling storylines. As the twenty
twenty five twenty six college football season is right on
our doorstep. I'm Bernie FRADDLEWI are Company live from the

All right back on the Bernie FA, I don't show
Fox Sports Radio comingy live. The Fox Sports Radio studios
here in Las Vegas take you after three am Pacific,
six am Eastern, and next week at this time, we
will actually have college football results from Week zero, and

(01:40:19):
they're actually a couple of interesting matchups, which leads us
now to in it won't be long and be drinking
through a fire hose all things college football, and we
are here for it as we have been my entire
eight years with Fox Sports Radio. This year, I believe
has some of the most compelling storylines, more so than

(01:40:42):
any other year. And you can really can't say that
every year.

Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
You can.

Speaker 1 (01:40:45):
You can conjure up storylines, but there are real storylines
beginning with now. Next week is affectionately referred to as
Week zero, the games of August twenty third, but there'll
be games Thursday at the twenty eighth, Friday, Saturday Sunday
through Labor Day weekend Monday. It's an absolute cornicopia extravaganza

(01:41:06):
of college football craziness, and it begins with what I
believe is an all time, an all timer in Week
one matchups. Now, look, there's no guarantee that all these
Week one matchups are going to be great, but on paper,
you've already got right now, period, one of the best
slates of high profile matchups that I can remember in decades.

(01:41:30):
Why well, first, you've got Texas at Ohio State. There's
the number one and number two teams in the country.
One is the defending national champion. It'll be the first
regular season non conference matchup between number one and number
two in nineteen years, and the first time a reigning
champion has faced a top five opponent and their season

(01:41:51):
opener in thirty seven years. Yes, that's historical, that's huge.
Texas at Ohio State, and I buried the lead you
got Manning. We'll get to that in a minute. Now,
let's add in a couple of more Week one matchups.
Notre Dame currently ranked number five, we'll be playing Miami

(01:42:11):
who are they're tenth right now? And Clemson, who checks
in at number six. Who A lot of folks feel
with kid Clubnick just might find themselves in the championship
game again this year. Long way to go, but they're
hosting number nine LSU and Brian Kelly who's trying to
get the monkey off his back. LSU always manages to

(01:42:31):
get beat their first game of the season, and this
is a brutal matchup. Again, we don't know if all
those top ten rankings hold up in the AP twenty
five pole the season goes down, but if we do
notre Dame Miami, Clemson, LSU, and Ohio State Texas, that
will be the most loaded, top heavy crazy weekend probably

(01:42:54):
in eighty years. By the way, according to CBS Sports Research,
the last time three regular season non conference games played
between top ten teams in the ap POL was November
of nineteen forty five.

Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
This is only.

Speaker 1 (01:43:11):
Apparently, this is the only weekend in college for football
history so far to feature three regular season non conference
games between top ten teams. It just doesn't happen now.
Speaking of Texas, Texas is back. They're back in a
big way. That's just kind of a running joke. Texas's back, Well,
they weren't for a long time. They're back now. But

(01:43:33):
even better, the arch manning era is finally here. Third
year on campus. They've handed him the keys of the car.
Steve Sarkisian has truly built Texas up. The foundation and
you know, he came over under the you know wing
of Nick Saban while he was in Tuscaloosa, and Sarkisian

(01:43:56):
knew up close and personal what it would take for
Texas to compete in the SEC. He's got the right
staff in place, he's got a pipeline of elite talent,
and either the Texas takes a back seat to nobody
when it comes to the talent they've put on the field,
not only this year, last year they had eleven NFL

(01:44:17):
draft picks. Check that, twelve NFL draft picks and eleven
the year before. Still haven't won that national championship, but
they've been right there knocking on the door. And they've
had multiple scene at your wins. Put twenty three guys
in the NFL in the last two years.

Speaker 2 (01:44:32):
So there's no question.

Speaker 1 (01:44:33):
Texas has put together a staff. They've put together recruiting,
high end development, an elite roster. They are now not
just a heavyweight, they're at SEC heavyweight and back to
back appearances in the College Football Playoff semi finals. They've
won twenty five games the last two seasons. They're fifty
to two in SEC play the last two years. This

(01:44:56):
is year five for Sarkesian.

Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
Now his back.

Speaker 1 (01:45:00):
The question is can they get to the top of
the mountain top. Arch Manning is one of the brightest
quarterback prospects in decades, one of the shiniest stars. Polished
from a royal you know, a family of quarterback royalty
and I know this is his first chance to get

(01:45:22):
the keys of the car. But he's been on He's
been in Austin now for two and a half years.
He spent the last two years backing up quin Ewers.
He got a couple of spots starts, had some situational
staff snaps. But this dude has talent, He's got tools, he's.

Speaker 2 (01:45:39):
Got the pedigree.

Speaker 1 (01:45:40):
He can play the play the position from the neck
up and listen, He's facing.

Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
A lot of pressure.

Speaker 1 (01:45:47):
It's not just representing Texas and the pressure packed you know,
obligations that come along with being Texas's quarterback and the SEC.
But there's a whole other level of scrutiny because he
follows Peyton Manning, he follows Leli Manning.

Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
Who both won multiple Super Bowls.

Speaker 1 (01:46:04):
He follows Archie Manning, who was MVP of the league
in nineteen seventy. His grandfather for the New Orleans Saints
and they were in five hundred team that year. Archie
Manning was brilliant at Mississippi. So and this isn't a
normal season, okay, because Texas genuinely has real expectations now.
It isn't like before when people say Texas is back

(01:46:25):
and oh yeah, okay, well show me no, they're back.
And for them to be ranked number one of the
preseason coaches poll for the first time ever in the
history of Texas football, that only adds to more pressure.
And they open up at Ohio State. Speaking of Ohio State,
what does Ohio State do for an encore?

Speaker 10 (01:46:46):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
This year?

Speaker 1 (01:46:48):
During Big Ten media days, Ryan Day could finally smile
a little bit. Okay, he has a national championship and
he seems to have a little bit more confidence.

Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:47:00):
He's only one of three coaches active in the entire
sport that has a coach that has a title next
to his name. And you know, I know, Michigan fans
and some Michigan players have been vocal about their titles
not legit because they lost to Michigan, but they rallied back, okay,
And it's actually one of the great stories in the

(01:47:22):
history of the college football playoffs, which is not a
long history. I mean, you had the BCS and you
had right what I call the four team made for
TV Invitational tournament. But last year Ohio State beat the
number two seed, the number three, the number four, the
number nine teams in the final AP poll Mickey one
of the most impressive and they did it all in

(01:47:42):
the final month. That's one of the most incredible runs
in college football history. Okay, again, they start up at
home against Texas. They got a reloaded roster, they got
two new coordinators. There has been some turnover in Columbus,
so could they repeat. They might have the talent on

(01:48:03):
paper to do it, but it's going to be a
tall order.

Speaker 2 (01:48:06):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:48:07):
You don't see programs go back to back that often
on college football. And I don't think you could blame
Ohio State if they fell short this year, if they
make a run. What you will blame Ohio State for,
and this looms, is if they lose to Michigan again.
Ryan Day is now one in four against Michigan, but
sixty nine and six against everyone else. And you have

(01:48:28):
to know, you have to have lived and worked in
those areas, whether it be Ann Arbor, or Columbus to
genuinely truly know. It's the incredible intensity and pressure that
goes with the Ohio State Michigan game. So look, Ohio
State will have lots of speed bumps this year, beginning
with Texas and ending with Michigan, and lots of them

(01:48:49):
in between. Another storyline into this year that I'm not
really nearly as curious about as everybody else is, but
North Carolina surprised the football world, the college football world
when they managed to land Bill Belichick, and I even
more surprised it was that Bilichick took the job, in

(01:49:11):
my opinion, and it's been kind of a goofy off season.
But finally, here's a guy who's won six Super Bowls
and he also helped you know, Bill Parcells win too
as a defensive coordinator with the New York Giants in
eighty seven to ninety one. He brought in a general
manager and named Michael Lombardi. So that's a lot of
football royalty there. He's got two sons on his staff

(01:49:34):
and a bunch of other NFL guys, and they've made quote,
you know, there's sort of this goofy mission statement to
make North Carolina the thirty third team of the NFL
because they have said they have stated they are implementing
a pro model for evaluation, for practice, for preparation. They
have seventy new players on the team that weren't playing

(01:49:57):
for North Carolina last season. So what's interesting is if
you really think you're an NFL team, where you're going
to act as if you are an NFL team with
respect to the way you prepare and practice and evaluate
talent and develop talent. That's like seventy free agents in
one year. So in eight months. Bill Belichick's got to
get to know these guys. The North Carolina schedule is

(01:50:20):
not daunting in the leaks. Look it up for yourself.
I'm not going to go over it. So what should
we really expect?

Speaker 3 (01:50:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:50:28):
North Carolina was fairly active in the transfer portal even
after spring practice. You know, they got a kid from
South Carolina that's got a chance to start. They open
up Labor Day against TCU. Now, their schedule, especially in
the ACC, is favorable, but they do have some question
marks because how quickly can you mail seventy new guys

(01:50:52):
into the same locker room? And they got some size,
don't you don't know the chemistry. You don't know if
they got the right guys. They are purporting to be
a team that will bring physicality and toughness. We don't
know what kind of explosive iss and playmakers they have,
and you don't have no idea until they take the field.

(01:51:13):
Super Bowl rings aren't going to matter a lot if
you don't have the horses. But Pedro said it best
coaching football, he's like driving a stage coach. If you
ain't got the horses, you're not going forward. Speaking of
going forward, insert your former Texas joke here with Penn State.
Every year is this the year for Penn State? And

(01:51:33):
then they managed to lose the game they need to win.
What's interesting is if you look at Penn State on paper.
None of the games you're not played on paper. But
if you give an honest, fair, objective appraisal to Penn
State on paper, they very much resemble how Michigan looked
two years ago when they won the national championship. And

(01:51:55):
they look very much how Ohio State looked last year
and they won the national champion Why because they're loaded
with players that have a lot of experience. They've got veterans,
who've been trying to be part of this breakthrough that
Penn State has been trying to break through forever, and

(01:52:15):
they stayed. They stayed for one more season instead of
moving on to the NFL. They've also got a quarterback
and Drew Aller, he says, third years a starting quarterback,
and thanks to some clever handiwork on the transfer portal,
Penn State will have the best group of wide receivers
he's had in three years now. On defense, their heir

(01:52:38):
apparent the loss of Abdul Carter, They've got another guy
with three names, which I'm going to get to. So
coming up, we are going to continue with some of
the most prominent compelling college football stories as the college football.

Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
Season is literally right around the corner.

Speaker 1 (01:52:56):
I'm Bernie Friderwick Company Line from the Law Vegas Fox
Sports Radio Studio. Keep it locked. You're listening to the
Bernie Frawdle Show. All right back at the Bernie Fraddle Show,
Fox Sports Radio, twelve minutes away from the dance Sensation
sweep of the nation. What kind of brand new fool
you followed by what my name? Wrapping it up on

(01:53:18):
Penn State. What I was going to say was They
may have lost to Abdul Carter, but they have other
players they've picked up. They even lost their defensive coordinator,
which happens seems like every year, but they were able
to bring.

Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
In none other than Jim Knowles.

Speaker 1 (01:53:32):
Fresh from his Ohio State Buckeyes title run, as their
new defensive coordinator.

Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
So here's the deal.

Speaker 1 (01:53:40):
Ohio State's reloading after their national title, Oregon's reloading after
winning the Big Ten, and Michigan is in a bit.

Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
Of a rebuild right now.

Speaker 1 (01:53:47):
And they got a freshman quarterback who's never taken a snap.
So everything is pointing to Penn State. So if Penn
State can't break through this year, I don't know when
it will be. You never say no. They're heavy as
the head who wears the crown, So let's see if
Penn State will live up to these expectations.

Speaker 2 (01:54:08):
They're loaded, man.

Speaker 1 (01:54:09):
They haven't finished number one in the country since Reagan
was president in nineteen eighty six. They did win the
Big Ten in twenty sixteen. They have had five top
ten finishes in the last eight years. One of the
most consistently successful programs in college football and during the
playoff era, but until last season, they did not even

(01:54:30):
log to college football playoff appearance. But they have a
core group that not only made a playoff run last year,
but won two games and came just a few plays
away from getting into the title game. It'll be very
interesting to see. Penn State should absolutely be a playoff
team in twenty twenty five, but at this point that
might be passe. I'm quite sure people want to see them.

(01:54:53):
Their fans want to see them in the national championship game,
if not winning at all. Another big st y line
this year, whether you like it or not, there's no
more Travis Hunter at Colorado now. Dion Sanders his last
press conference was basically the good news that his medical
issues thankfully.

Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
Seeming lear behind him.

Speaker 1 (01:55:16):
He had undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumorund his bladder,
and he's been cleared in his recovery. The Colorado football program,
of which Dion has done yeoman's work and building into
a just a phenomenal uh you know, going concern as
you will because of his commitment, which has you know,

(01:55:37):
been I don't think you can. I don't think you
can question Dion's commitment. But now he's lost his two
guys Chador and Travis Hunter. And he did bring in
two quarterbacks, a kid from Liberty named Kate and Salter.
And he's got a blue chipper, Juju Lewis, and they'll,
you know, they'll both battle to be the successor for

(01:55:59):
Shador was thirteen and twelve was two years there. But
you know, they also lost Jimmy Horn junior. They lost
the Western kid who returned to put in the NFL game.
And so this is a Colorado team that's gonna have
to be a little bit better on defense and a
little bit better in a run game if they're gonna
continue winning games. How will Colorado, this new look Colorado

(01:56:21):
team b Well, we'll find out here in about two
weeks when they open up against a very tough Georgia
Tech team at home. One of the things we're gonna
be watching also this year is the Group of five
college football playoff race now in Week two last year,

(01:56:42):
Boise State, by the way, it's just done him Boise
a couple of weeks ago with my wife, he went
on the blue field. It's pretty cool there. It's it's
quite a thing they've built in the last twenty years
there at Boise State. They took Oregon to task in
Week two up in Eugene, and then they started stacking
win after win after when they beat UNLV twice, they
win the Mountain West, they got their automatic bit of

(01:57:04):
the College Football Playoff, and they finished the regular season
not as the fifth rank conference champion, as the number
three seed.

Speaker 2 (01:57:12):
Now that's been.

Speaker 1 (01:57:13):
Changing now with the new playoff format this year, and
they're gonna get a very tough test that Notre Dame
in early October. But Boise State will very much be
in the mix as to the one group of five
team that gets a nod. But there are other teams
they will have a say, Army, Navy, Tulane, Memphis, Liberty,

(01:57:35):
James Madison, Louisiana, Toledo. They are all very much in
the mix. They are part of the conversation that if
they're pursuit of a conference title in a gaudy record
is what they are able to put on display, they should,
you know, in theory, get the same opportunity that Boise
State got last year, which is the seat at the

(01:57:57):
table with the big boys competing for an actual national championship.

Speaker 2 (01:58:01):
Now there are two many college stories to get into.

Speaker 1 (01:58:05):
We're gonna get into a lot more from next week,
because there were a lot of Cinderellas this last year,
like Arizona State and Indiana. We're gonna break it down
next week. How will they fare? Who will the new
Cinderellos be? Oregon's on a revenge tour after getting stunned
in the Rose Bowl. Finally, is it possible for USC
to be a sleeper? You know in their history they've

(01:58:26):
claimed eleven national championships across five decades, but they've been
an absolute all serrand And next week we'll get into
the Heisman watch. I know Arch Manning's a favorite, but
kid Club, Nick Garrett nuts Meyer, Jeremiah Smith, Try Simpson,
Nor Sellers and many many more are also going to
be mentioned. Finally, the hot Seat report, which coaches might

(01:58:46):
find themselves on the hot seat? You know they're always there,
So we'll talk about it next week. Keep it locked
up next the Midnight or the brand New Fool. Well,
that's right, you heard the man Bernie Fraddle Show keeps
from rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fradder. We're

(01:59:08):
comany line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in
Las Vegas. We will take you up to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern. It's been a rocket show so far,
particularly spirited midnight hour. But you know we've come to
that juncture in the show.

Speaker 2 (01:59:25):
You know you love you.

Speaker 1 (01:59:26):
You can't leave without it because, as we've said many
times in the words of Yogi Berra, you can observe
a lot by watching, and that's exactly what we do
here on the Bernie Fratter Show because around this a
great country of arms, from seed to Oily Sea, and
around the planet, the globe whatever. Well, people engage in behaviors,
engaging odd egostymocratic behaviors. Sometimes well they're innocuous, no big deal,

(01:59:51):
just kind of silly, Stupidn't they catch your eye? Other
times they're far more serious, fry to follow along. Many
times well they behaviors that people engaging cost people to
end up in jail. But anyway you slice it, anyway,
you describe it, anyway a characterize it, every one of
these behaviors we observe. Well, they always leave us scratching

(02:00:13):
our head and asking ourselves what kind of brand new
fool are you?

Speaker 6 (02:00:18):
What so, what kind of brand new fool are you?

Speaker 1 (02:00:27):
Well, this will be one of those in the innocuous category,
no harm, no foul at the end of the day.
But I gotta tell you it was one of the
looniest and it all started. We take you into the
great city of Milwaukee. Milwaukee wis constant started last Wednesday.
The Brewers beat the Pirates on Wednesday twelve to five,

(02:00:47):
and it was Milwaukee's twelfth win in a row. And
therein lies the story. See because a local diner famous
in the area. It's been around since the nineteen forties,
the George Webber Restaurant. Apparently it's had a standing offer
their entire time in business. If the Burgers put together
a twelve game winning streak, everyone gets a free burger.

(02:01:10):
And believe me, all the Brewer fans were very well
aware of this last Wednesday, and according to the GEORGEI
web website, so only happened twice in their history. Back
in nineteen eighty seven, you remember, those great Brewer teams
with Paul Maltar got off to a fast start in April.

Speaker 2 (02:01:30):
They won thirteen games in a row.

Speaker 1 (02:01:31):
That led to the restaurant giving out one hundred and
sixty eight thousand free hamburgers. Seven years ago, Milwaukee ran
off twelve straight ruins this time, well, they only had
to hand out ninety thousand free burgers. But see, given
how fast Ward spreads on social media these days, well,
I absolutely believe this must have been madness. We don't

(02:01:54):
have any details yet, but people were buzzing, they were excited.
I think it was a four hour window they had
to I think they had to set up a special
giveaway date, all that kind of stuff. All it was
all good, Okay, apparently they went I had to order
twenty five thousand pounds of meat. They're expected to give

(02:02:14):
away one hundred thousand free burgers. All right, there was
going to be an announcement of noon on Thursday when
you could get your free burger. Blah blah blah, and
here and there in Lives of the Fun because one
particular patron, and by the way, this is no small promotion.
Just seven years ago, the cost to do this was
about three point fifty at Burger, So that's a little

(02:02:36):
under seven hundred thousand dollars in free product given away. However,
one particular hungry patron had a little issue because he
showed up that night Wednesday to get his burger. Well,
he couldn't get his burger right away. So what did
he do? And here's what comes the brand new fool part.

(02:02:58):
He picks up the phone and do what any burger
hungry knucklehead would do. He calls nine to one one
to complain about not getting his burger.

Speaker 10 (02:03:09):
Thank God for the Internet.

Speaker 1 (02:03:13):
Well, here's what's interesting. He actually showed up to get
his burger before the game had even ended, allegedly. And
truth of the matter is they knew they had to
gear up, so they needed time. They weren't even announced
until Thursday when the burgers are ready. But therein lies
the conundrum. The guy wants his burger, believes he's gonna

(02:03:34):
get a free burger. But sometimes you can't reason with
people if they are brand new fools. So unnamed individual
who calls nine to one one because he doesn't get
his burger even though the rules are in place in
Milwaukee or George Web Restaurants after the Burgers are wonder
twelfth game in a row, What kind of brand new

(02:03:56):
fool are you?

Speaker 2 (02:03:59):
Now?

Speaker 1 (02:03:59):
That's about as tame as any of these ones I've
ever done. But I'm sorry it falls into the brand
new fool category. Okay, Brandon take it away?

Speaker 19 (02:04:09):
Alrighty, So I'm going to go to the great state
of Florida, which is oh boy, yeah, a gold mine
for these types of stories on brand new Pool. So
this is an interesting one because when you use a
getaway car, Bernie, well, not when you do, but when
people typically do, you'd think it would be a fast car, right. Well,

(02:04:33):
a Florida couple had no idea their recently purchased Class
motor home would end up in the wrong hands. Okay,
So we take it to Florida there and RV was
stolen as a getaway car and RV okay, and it
was a big investment for them. They had just bought it,

(02:04:54):
and that's what one of them told the police. One
of the owners of the RV and the police reportedly
caught up with the recreational vehicle after two of the
criminals shoplifted items from a nearby Walmart in the RV.
The team of thieves then use the RV as a
getaway vehicle afterward, leading police on a high speech chase,

(02:05:14):
including instances where the RV plunged into oncoming traffic and
performed abrupt u turns. Police say the driver even resorted
to ramming into at least one of the police SUVs
before the officers were able to pull him out and
arrest him. As for his fellow thieves, they bailed, leaving
him to face his fate. But guess what about this.

(02:05:37):
They didn't just take the RV from someone's driveway hotel
parking lot. According to the news that thieves found the
RV behind a gate an electronic lock, which makes it
even scarier. These were actually not experts, but they had
experience because they were able to get behind all these
security systems, get in get this RV, and they changed

(02:06:01):
the plates so that they couldn't find them for the
first thirty minutes to an hour, so they were pretty
nifty about that. Regardless, the one guy who was caught,
the three thieves left him for dad, basically to be arrested.
What kind of brand new fool are you.

Speaker 1 (02:06:19):
That's got a lot of moving parts, stealing an RV,
stealing stuff from Walmart and attempting to evade a chase.

Speaker 2 (02:06:26):
That's a beauty. That's a beauty, Which is.

Speaker 1 (02:06:29):
Exactly why we call this segment what kind of brand
new fool are you? Because it never ceases to amaze
me the craziness with which the links will people will
go to make damn fools of themselves, so they have
it another arousing addition of what kind of brand new
fool is in the books, which now allows us to
segue into our second favorite bit, which we'd lovingly refer

(02:06:52):
to as what my name? All right, well, since the
football season is here, we'll start with a football question.
Since two thousand and eight, I've been sacked more than
any quarterback in the National Football League? Mark what my name?
And here's a clue. I'm with a brand new team this.

Speaker 19 (02:07:14):
Year, brand new team.

Speaker 1 (02:07:19):
Since TIWO thousand and eight, I've been sacked more than
any quarterback in the National Football League.

Speaker 6 (02:07:26):
Isn't that somebody named Rattler?

Speaker 19 (02:07:28):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (02:07:29):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:07:29):
Spitser Rattler?

Speaker 1 (02:07:31):
Nopeuh yeah, that's probably a good guess, because he's not
looking too great with New Orleans, is he? Keep in
mind here, this is since two thousand and eight. Since
two thousand and eight, I've been sacked more than any
other quarterback in the National Football League.

Speaker 2 (02:07:48):
Brandon what my name?

Speaker 10 (02:07:50):
Uh?

Speaker 19 (02:07:51):
Well, it has to be an older player, right to
accumulate getting sacked that much.

Speaker 6 (02:07:56):
I'm gonna go Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (02:07:58):
It is, in fact Aaron Rodgers hold on to Mark's credit, Spritzer.

Speaker 2 (02:08:03):
Rattler is is not a major league quarterback. I don't
get that deal.

Speaker 19 (02:08:08):
But I don't think he's gonna play that long to
get sacked out much. I think we'll be out of.

Speaker 6 (02:08:11):
The league before that.

Speaker 1 (02:08:12):
But yeah, let's see it goes the route of Caleb Williams,
who got sacked what sixty eight times last year or
something crazy. It is also still baseball season, so we'll
flip to baseball now. Shohey Otani now has one thousand
hits and five hundred k's as a pitcher. There's only

(02:08:37):
been one other player in Major League Baseball history to do.

Speaker 2 (02:08:40):
That, and that was me, Mark.

Speaker 1 (02:08:42):
What my name?

Speaker 2 (02:08:46):
Assuming I give a.

Speaker 1 (02:08:48):
Clue, but I think you're probably gonna get it?

Speaker 19 (02:08:51):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (02:08:52):
Is it Schwaber?

Speaker 1 (02:08:54):
Okay? So let me so? Well, Okay, so I probably
didn't ask the question. Probably remember because college Schwarber doesn't pitch.
So this is a guy who had to have had
a thousand hits and pitched and got over five hundred
strikeouts as a pitcher. Here's a clue. He played most
of his career with the New York Yankees.

Speaker 6 (02:09:14):
What my name, babe, Ruth?

Speaker 1 (02:09:17):
It is, in fact George Herban Babe Ruth.

Speaker 2 (02:09:22):
Pretty amazing.

Speaker 1 (02:09:26):
All right, next week, I'm going to dive into the
Heisman Trophy race because there's actually a lot of candidates.
But for now, Arch Manning is the favorite, the odds
on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Arch plays for Texas,
but I'm still the last Texas Longhord to win the
Heisman Trophy. Brandon, what my name? Here's a clue. I

(02:09:52):
was a star running back.

Speaker 19 (02:09:54):
Oh, this one's tough. I know that Cole McCoy didn't win.
I'm gonna go Ricky Williams.

Speaker 1 (02:10:00):
It is Grant. It's a great Ricky Williams is the
one that one. Well, my next clue would have been, yeah,
Coplecourt did not win it. I got hurt in the
National Championhip game against Alabama. My next clue would have been,
you know, most of my career was I think I
think it was with the Miami Dolphins, but a lot

(02:10:20):
of it was all right, let's go back to baseball.
I got a feeling Mark's gonna get this one. I'm
the only pitcher in history major League baseball history to
strike out Hank Aaron Roger Merris, Mark McGuire and Ken
griffiyd Jr. Mark What my name? And here's the clue.

(02:10:42):
There are freeways and schools all around Texas named after me. Mark,
What my name is?

Speaker 6 (02:10:51):
Nolan Ryan?

Speaker 1 (02:10:52):
It is Nolan Ryan, the pride of Alvin, Texas.

Speaker 6 (02:10:57):
I was also thinking about Abbot, but you know.

Speaker 1 (02:11:00):
Jim Abbott, Yeah, Jim Abbott. All right, this may be
our first ever and last ever WNBA question and what
my name segment, but it's a worthy one. I recently
became the first w NBA player to post thirty points

(02:11:21):
and twenty rebounds in the same game.

Speaker 2 (02:11:26):
Brandon, What my name?

Speaker 1 (02:11:28):
Here's a clue. I was a key cog of a
world champion WNBA team a couple of years ago.

Speaker 19 (02:11:35):
Though I do love Caitlin Clark. I'm not a big
WNBA watcher, but I do know the best player in
the league is still Asia Wilson. So I believe it
is Asia Wilson.

Speaker 1 (02:11:44):
And that is an absolute correct answer, and I think
it is. I think most people would agree that Asia
Wilson is in fact the best player in the WNBA.
All right, what more here, We'll go back to Major
League Baseball. Currently, I'm the only Major League baseball player

(02:12:04):
in either league to hit forty home runs in each
of the past three seasons. Mark what my name, here's
a clue. I am a foreign born player.

Speaker 6 (02:12:22):
Is Itani?

Speaker 1 (02:12:23):
It is sho Tani? All right, you guys killed it,
swept the board. Aaron Rodgers, Babe Ruth with Dee Williams,
Nolan Ryan and Asia Wilson and Shohei O'tani. Excellent job,
excellent job. A little roundover proms for you guys, maybe no, yeah, excellent.

(02:12:44):
Not a lot of hesitation gets I'm gonna have to
tune this up.

Speaker 2 (02:12:48):
And now you guys did a great job.

Speaker 5 (02:12:49):
All right.

Speaker 1 (02:12:50):

matter throughout the years, and this year is no different.
So coming up we'll share that with you that you

Very much right around the corner.

Speaker 1 (02:14:15):
All right, back at the Burning Fattle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
come to live from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in a Lost Vegas. Before we get to our programming
announcement and a new feature we'll be offering starting next week.
I mentioned earlier in the show as we got into
the midnight hour about Michigan and the verdict and the

(02:14:36):
punishment and the relative severity based on people's perspectives and
all of the fodder and rhetoric that's gone back and
forth in the last year and people thinking, you know,
maybe their championship wasn't legitimate. It should have been vacated

(02:14:58):
whether Okay, all right, we're not going to revisit that.
But as part of the dialogue, I shared with you
that some good folks at Michigan thought that Ohio States
championship wasn't valid this year. Actually, the research shows that
was Michigan defensive end Derek Moore allegedly asserted that Ohio
State's national championship win wasn't a real win because the

(02:15:19):
Buckeyes couldn't beat the Wolverines in a regular season. He
said the while he's willing to congratulate them, he feels
that this year will be quote different. Now, if I'm
being somewhat objective here, and what other sport is the
championship invalidated by one regular season LOKs? Okay, that's not

(02:15:40):
really real, I think enlightened take Ohio State beat four
of the top five teams and six of the top
teams last year, but they're not a real championship because
they didn't beat a team that was eight and five
and unranked. Okay, by the way, did you know that
the Atlanta Falcons beat the Eagles? Last year? They did, so,

(02:16:00):
does that mean, the Eagles championship is not valid. All right,
Rob'm going with that, which is a perfect segue into
the NFL, which is also right on our doorstep. And
folks typically can't get enough of fantasy repartage before the
season for your draft, during the season, players to pick

(02:16:21):
up lineups, to start things of that nature. And fortunately
we have a fantasy football goou on staff now and
so Brandon, I'm gonna turn it over to you and
you can break the news as to the new feature
that you'll be offering our listeners starting next week.

Speaker 2 (02:16:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:16:38):
I can't wait, Bernie.

Speaker 19 (02:16:39):
I mean, fantasy football has been a huge passion of
mine for a long time. I've established a pretty big
brand covering it and doing it and trying to help
people using analytics and all that stuff. So we'll be
introducing Fantasy Files next week segment where it will include
everything you need to know for your lineup, including draft
advice before the draft because a lot of people don't

(02:17:02):
draft until right before the season. Sit starts suggestions once
you do draft each week, because we will be on
air when you guys are already starting to think, well
should I start, you know, let's say Joe Mixon even
with a hurt foot this weekend or.

Speaker 6 (02:17:20):
Do I start?

Speaker 19 (02:17:21):
I don't know, Maybe I go down the list and start. Okay,
Trevion Henderson, will he get enough snaps week one with
Ramandre Stevenson there, that's another thing. Sit start suggestions Waiver
Wired advice too, though it is before Sunday's games. There
will be sleepers discussed in waiver Wire advice with that
some by low sell high candidates each week depending on

(02:17:41):
how they performed the previous week, and sleeper candidates to
keep an eye on deep waiver guys. So that'll be fun.
We'll go through all of that primarily during the year.
We'll focus on sit start suggestion since that will be
what most people will want going into their Sunday exactly
who to start and why and matchup analysis, but all

(02:18:01):
that other stuff will be included as well.

Speaker 1 (02:18:03):
Bernie, And of course you get into the Yeah, you
get into the the bye weeks as well. Brandon, what
is your thought and theory about drafting to look ahead,
you know, to buye weeks, which you're inevitable.

Speaker 19 (02:18:17):
Yeah, that's why I'm always look I don't think there
is a perfect way to draft. I think there's a
ton of different strategies. Obviously, you don't want three or
four guys on the same bye week of your top players, right,
but you want to you want to space those out
a little bit. Maybe you only have two guys that
are going to be in your lineup have a similar
bye week, the same bye week, right, but you want

(02:18:38):
to have depth where you can throw a guy and
like Ricky Pierce in the ninth round and feel comfortable
having him be your wide receiver two one week because
you know he's going to have a breakout season.

Speaker 2 (02:18:48):
Right.

Speaker 19 (02:18:49):
So it's all about drafting value late. So you can
feel that seamless, uh, you know, change putting that guy
in your lineup that primarily is on your but because
of a bye week you could trust to put up
fantasy points.

Speaker 1 (02:19:03):
You know what's interesting is in past years people waited
to draft running backs. But I think if you look
at the top ten rankings now there's a bunch of
running backs. Do you believe that your Mark Chase will
be the consensus number one overall pick.

Speaker 19 (02:19:18):
I do. I don't think he should be the first
overall pick. Just based on history, no wide receiver one
has repeated as the wide receiver one and even non
consecutive years in almost ten years. It's been since Antonio Brown.
Now he probably has the best chance to do it.
With Joe Burrow a quarterback right obviously elite quarterback Elee
wide receiver T Higgins did miss five games last year, though,

(02:19:40):
so if you're expecting T Higgins to play fifteen plus games,
you can expect your mar Chase to maybe finish in
that three to five range. Just because T Higgins is
so talented as well. I would roll with b Jehan
Robinson with the first overall pick. I think he's got
a clear path to superstardom. Christian McCaffrey type of year
lt type of year in his prime, that type of stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:20:01):
This year. One last thing.

Speaker 1 (02:20:04):
As we tease this going in next week, it's always
a craft shoot drafting rookies. What do you expect a guy,
even though he's going to get a lionst year at
the load, a guy like Ashton Genty to be drafted
because you know, is he going to get the ball
on the goal line? Is he going to get you know,
all those questions you don't toward the end of Barry

(02:20:26):
sanders Kurk, he didn't get the ball on the goal.

Speaker 2 (02:20:27):
Line, right, So go ahead. You know what I'm trying.

Speaker 19 (02:20:30):
To say, Yeah, Bertie, I mean I think Ashton gentsy
in most you know, competitive leaks, right, like people that
know football at a very high level, which are most
of the people that will be or all of the
people basically listening to this and following this on a
weekly basis. Right, you want to draft him at the
end of the first round. If you can get him
in the early second, it's a steal. I mean, the

(02:20:50):
workload volume is king and fantasy football, depending on if
you play PPR or half PPR doesn't really matter. I'm
comfortable taking him with a late first early second round pick.
I like Colon Miller a lot on that line. I
think Charles Grant was a steal. I don't know how
much he'll play right away from William and Mary. He
needs to develop a little bit, but I don't think
the line is as bad as people think. And I
think Gino Smith, you know, him being a ten times

(02:21:13):
the passer of any quarterback they had rostered last season
right through for like forty six hundred yards last year.
That's going to open up so much for Ashton che
team more than people think. So I think he's going
to finish as a top five Fantasy running back as
a rookie.

Speaker 1 (02:21:26):
All right, this is gonna be great stuff, Brandon. You'll
roll that out next week. We'll have a nice open
and everything. It'll be the Fantasy Finals with Brandon and
I'm sure you'll cover a lot of ground. We cover
a lot of ground on the Bernie Frattle Show. We
don't just talk football spelled foot b A L L. Well,

(02:21:47):
we also talked that other football spelled fut bol that
you heard our caller Christopher from London bring up earlier
on the show. It's time Chris Burfett's World of Soccer.

Speaker 20 (02:22:00):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drum.

Speaker 5 (02:22:12):
Him.

Speaker 4 (02:22:13):
I am again the level. It's all here in this
report from the World of Soccer.

Speaker 6 (02:22:19):
So a little bit of housekeeping before we begin on
the World of Soccer.

Speaker 21 (02:22:22):
A listener had written in about the fight that had
broken out in the Club World Cup. I know that's
almost like a month ago, now. I did want to
acknowledge that. I know that's kind of fallen off our table.
It's a fight that seems to happen at the end
of a lot of soccer games where everyone is huffy,
and maybe that fight would have really benefited Tottenham Hotspur
in UEFA Super Cup, which kicked off the European season. Yes,

(02:22:46):
we are already back into the European season and Paris
and Germain started where they left off. They are now
lifting their fourth major trophy in the twenty twenty four
calendar and probably the last one they will be able
to do so before the calendar flips. Excuse me, twenty
twenty five calendar, before the calendar flips over to twenty
twenty six.

Speaker 6 (02:23:05):
Geez, wow, these years move by so quick.

Speaker 21 (02:23:09):
I am always continually impressed by how much more fun
I have watching Paris and Germain since their reorganization into
a younger, faster and more team friendly rather than just
being loaded to the.

Speaker 6 (02:23:19):
Gills with stars.

Speaker 21 (02:23:20):
Speaking of stars, Manchester United is hoping to come out
of the gate in the Premier League. Yes we are
back in the Premier League. Liverpool's already played their first
match and beaten Bourne myth. The Championship's been back for
a couple of weeks now, and Wrexham got their hey
buds welcome to the second tier, getting their teeth kicked

(02:23:41):
in by a Premier League veteran in the form of Southampton,
and that should be a little bit of a wake
up call as Wrexham, along with Birmingham City become these
new darlings, the new media national darlings of the Championship
against a bunch of teams that have seen the fires
at the top.

Speaker 2 (02:23:59):
Now.

Speaker 21 (02:24:00):
Birmingham City of Tom Brady fame has already picked up
one winning the Championship and Rexham is still looking for
their first after two matches. It's going to be a
long road for them. But as I said, the Premiership
is back and that means kind of checking in where
we left off with everyone. Manchester City looking to bounce
back with everything, Tottenham Hotspur losing the awaya Super Cup,

(02:24:23):
trying to have not as bad of.

Speaker 6 (02:24:25):
A year as they had last year.

Speaker 21 (02:24:26):
But also losing you know, song hyun Men to LAFC
continuing to empty their cupboard a bit.

Speaker 6 (02:24:34):
And Manchester United.

Speaker 21 (02:24:35):
Manchester United who went out and spent big transfer money
the other week on Benjamin Cesco. No, that's not Cisco
to the Star Wars fans like me out there, no no, no,
no no. He is a Slovenian played for RBI Leipzig
and now he comes over to the English side. I've
seen some British commentators try to ask if he is
the answer to help free Manchester United from their woes.

(02:24:58):
He is in his early twenties. That will not be
happening anytime soon. Manchester United just needs to find ground
again this year. And I know that's not a very
big Manchester United goal to be saying, but for a
club that spent so many years in the wilderness, you
now have some new ownership groups in place, you have
another star in Cesco, you have time to grow develop

(02:25:23):
and this might be a little bit difficult, but you're
just really looking to get back into European play or
just at least be meaningful on the table rather than
competing for a title or even competing for the championship.
The road for Manchester United to get back is still
a long long way to go. And then you've got

(02:25:43):
Arsenal who has spent so many years, as I love
to keep saying, being the bridesmaid and never the bride.
And we'll see how they get off two things here
very quickly. Newcastle United, as always, the promise continues to
be that they will be there, but they've never really
been better than someone around a Aston Villa or Brighton
and Hove Albion level of performance. Leeds United back in

(02:26:05):
the Premier League and one that always carries a lot
of American players to keep your eye on. It's all
very fascinating to watch. Meanwhile, a rather interesting start to
the Spanish season, Barcelona kicking off where they left off
Lamina mal with a screamer of a goal Mallorca. Their

(02:26:26):
opponent got two red cards in six minutes, so this
was a little bit of chewed food for Barcelona to
get on and yet their coach Hansi Flick was not
actually happy with it.

Speaker 6 (02:26:41):
He thought it was too easy.

Speaker 21 (02:26:42):
He said that he didn't like the matches three points,
but that they were only really playing at fifty or
sixty percent against nine players. We have to play faster,
so really wanting to ramp up and start scoring on
the points. Barcelona should be very fascinating to watch this year,
especially since I think there's gonna be some real questions

(02:27:03):
at some point about Real Madrid and how much this
is working. Even with the acquisition of Killing and Bope.
They really have to find their way forward, but that'll
do it for us, Bernie, We're gonna be off next week.
I have some family matters to attend to, and then
we'll try to get into the fall calendar as it
starts a barrel forward, and maybe in this incredibly crowded

(02:27:27):
European clock, try to find some time to talk about
what's happened over in the MLS.

Speaker 6 (02:27:32):
But we'll see you next time on the World of Soccer.

Speaker 1 (02:27:35):
All right, the World of Soccer. You know what's interesting.
The calendar is going to turn here in let's see,
about four months in two weeks, so they're there abouts, right,
and that means we're gonna be in another World Cup year,
which is how we debuted the World of Soccer just
before World Cup twenty twenty two, and it was a

(02:27:56):
different calendar then because it didn't really start so after Thanksgiving.
But regardless, the news headlines will be very fast and furious,
and of course they'll be played on North American soil,
including many games in Los Angeles, so you got that

(02:28:17):
going for you. Coming up, we wrap up the show
and we highlight the weirdest but maybe the best team
in baseball. And you can't tell me you saw this
one coming and It's not exactly that we're breaking major
news here, but there are a couple of factoids here
that well will cause you to raise an eyebrow. I'm

(02:28:41):
Bernie Fraddle. We are comedy line from Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Don't go away. You're listening to the
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, we're
wrapping it up on the Bernie Frattle Show. I want
to thank my producers Mark and Brandon. Great job turning

(02:29:02):
all the dials, keeping us glued together, answering the phones
during the men at our segment participation of course in
brand new Fool what my name? Appreciate all the efforts,
all the professionalism, and next week we'll have the Fantasy
Files with Brandon, as there's always an insatiable demand for

(02:29:24):
that kind of information. I believe our first NFL game
that counts for real is two weeks from next Thursday night,
so I can't get your strap it up. It's ready
to go, but let's not rush things too quickly, because
we are in the throes of a crazy, entertaining, record setting,

(02:29:50):
a tenance record setting Major League Baseball season that I
hope continues into October with the same kind of unpredictability
and accepement we've seen during the season. You can't tell
me that on August seventeenth, you had the Milwaukee Brewers
thirty games over five hundred. Checked that, thirty four games

(02:30:10):
over five hundred, seventy eight and forty four, a nine
game lead in the NL Center over the Chicago Cubs.
And they're even eight games better than the East leading
Philadelphia Phillies, who were seventeen games over five hundred. Not
for nothing, by the way, the Milwaukee Brewers just set
a single season franchise record with their fourteenth straight victory

(02:30:31):
Saturday night, and they had to rally to do it again, right,
beat the Red six to five and eleven innies, a
new benchmark for consecutive victories. This is surpassing the eighty
seventeen that opened the season by winning their first thirteen games.

Speaker 2 (02:30:47):
I guess the thing you watch for next.

Speaker 1 (02:30:49):
Milwaukee's overall record for consecutive wins is sixteen in a row,
but that actually spanned two seasons from eighty six to
eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (02:30:59):
By I diagre. Yes, what we have here is.

Speaker 1 (02:31:03):
The best team in baseball is certainly by record, but
also maybe the weirdest.

Speaker 2 (02:31:08):
Here's why.

Speaker 1 (02:31:09):
I mean, we got six weeks to go in the
Major League Baseball's regular season, and again, a lot of
things are taking place that nobody predicted back in March,
not that I can see, not that I can remember.
The top of the list, clearly the Brewers there are
Baseball's winning his team, not by a little, by a lot.

(02:31:32):
And they've had two comeback wins againt Cincinnati two nights
in a row, so they've not won fourteen in a row.
And in terms of the number of wins that they
have seventy eight, that's six better than the next closest team,
which is over in the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays.
Now look as far as Milwaukee feeling a good club

(02:31:56):
and Milwaukee being competitive, let's not exactly earth shattering news
because they've had six postseason appearances in the last seven years.
But here's what makes this year, and this is why
I use the term weird, because the Brewers waved goodbye

(02:32:16):
to William Damas after last season. He was their second
most viable hitter in twenty twenty four. He left in
free agency. They traded it away an elite closer in
Devin Williams. And if you can tell me what splashy
offseason move that the Brewers made, feel free to send

(02:32:37):
us those cards and letters.

Speaker 2 (02:32:38):
I didn't see it.

Speaker 1 (02:32:39):
The Brewers didn't do anything resembling a splashy off season edition.
So with six weeks to go, you got the best
baseball team with the best record in Milwaukee and maybe
the weirdest. As we continue with the weirdness, he got
a couple of rookie hitters. Twenty eight year old rookie

(02:33:01):
by the name of Isaac Collins, another twenty five year
old named Caleb Durban. They've generated five wins against replacement
per Fangrass, and they're both rookies. Oh yeah. They picked
up a guy that the White Sox, the White Sox
of all teams, didn't want. He watched out by the
name of Andrew Vaughan. And he's well, he joined the

(02:33:23):
Brewers June thirteenth. And you know, if you've looked at
the box scores, people do that. Still he's making a
pretty good impression of Aaron Judge. So household names no
Caleb Durbin, Isaac Collins, Andrew Vaughn. But they've helped lead
the Brewers to seventy eight games without Willia Doomas, without
Devin Williams, and without the benefit of a major free

(02:33:46):
agency acquisition. You don't do this without good pitching. And
the pitching success stories are starting to stack up now.
Jacob Missiorowski got roughed up the other day, but in
his return from the injury list, and remember he was
the guy in the All Star team, he threw one
hundred miles an hour and everybody was up in arms
because he'd only appeared in like six games or something

(02:34:07):
like that. When he's been healthy, he's been electric. Period.
Another guy that most people probably haven't heard of, twenty
seven year old Chad Patrick. He's been the most valuable
pitchy a rookie pitcher in the National League, at least
according to Fangraft's War, and he's barely gotten his ears

(02:34:31):
wet in the major leagues. He got a bit of
a taste of the closer role last year. By the way,
Trevor McGill, another guy who broke in as a closer
last year, has been great helping all these pitchers. Now,
baseball is a simple game, right He hit the ball,
run the bases, put in play, catch the ball, throw strikes.

(02:34:54):
That's it. Milwaukee's defense has led b and fielding run
value entering this last weekend. So they played good defense,
they timely hitting, great managing, outstanding pitching, and guys picking

(02:35:15):
each other up.

Speaker 2 (02:35:16):
Okay, now I.

Speaker 1 (02:35:17):
Know this isn't enough, but a cup fans, and by
the way, they even give free burgers or their fans.
Even if you call nine one one, well, the Cubs
are nine back. They're probably not too happy to see this.
And uh look, Milwaukee is kind of one of those
feel good stories. You know how many times the Milwaukee
Brewers have won the World Series? Yeah right, same as

(02:35:39):
you and me. None the Milwaukee Brewers franchise has never
won a World Series. They were in that highly competitive
World Series in nineteen eighty two against the Saint Louis
Cardinals that actually went seven games, but Milwaukee didn't prevail.

Speaker 2 (02:35:56):
Saint Louis did.

Speaker 1 (02:35:57):
But in a year of weird years and things of
that nature. Is it true now the Dodgers really is
sorted themselves these last two games against the Padres, But
it's not out of the realm of possibility. The Padres
could not or checked that the Dodgers might not prevail
in the NL West. Okay, the Potteris entered their weekend

(02:36:18):
series up by a game. LA took that away Friday night,
followed up with another Saturday night performance. But look, the
Dodgers have to get their pictures healthy, which I believe
they will. It's been sketchy Mookie Bets as has. I
don't know, maybe he's on the downside of his career,
but he's such an impactful player.

Speaker 2 (02:36:38):
You notice these things.

Speaker 1 (02:36:40):
Potters are doing lots of things, well, just not against
the Dodgers. We've got to watch that. In terms of weirdness,
the Tigers remember what a hot start they got into.
Well they might also lose the Al Central, which they
did in two thousand and six but ended up making
it into the World Series. Probably not gonna happen. But
on July eighth, third game, their lead was fourteen games
and now it's about seven. The Guardians look a little

(02:37:03):
bit like last year's Tigers, who kind of stormed into
the playoffs late. The Yankees have gone from an ale
sure thing to a wild card scrapper. The Blue Jays
tracking to win that division and they're running away and
hiding so over the last month and a half, up
to this weekend, and the Yankees they're deadline pickups and
all their twenty fifth in ERA and twenty third and FIP.

(02:37:25):
So there are a lot of teams that are biting
their nails, holding on for dear life, but the Milwaukee
Brewers are not one of them. Pat Murphy has guided
his team former head baseball coach at Notre Dame, and
the truth of the matter is, not only are the
Brewers getting it done with seventy eight wins thirty four

(02:37:45):
games over five hundred, they play with joy. They absolutely
have fun. They find a way to give themselves every opportunity,
and then they find a way to take advantage of
those opportunities and create extra opportunities and then take advantage
of those. That's the way baseball works. They can't give
a team five outs an inning. You can't defend a walk,

(02:38:08):
and when you do, when teams do that to you,
you make them pay for it, like Bryce Terrang did
the other night when he doubled in read. Look, the
Brewers are the story. Well they finish it off in October,
we'll see. That's the beauty of baseball. There are no
guarantees it's gonna do it for The Bernie Fradler Show.
We'll see you next Saturday Night, eleven pm. Keep it
locked up next to great Andy Furman on Fox Sports
