Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. Is that time
of week. My name is Bernie Frederickick. Come to your
line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas.
We'll take you up to three am Pacific, six am Eastern,
And as usual, even though I've only got four hours,
I've got about six hours a material.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Will try to get to it all.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Actually probably seven hours thanks to that load in the shorts.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Lane Kiffin, who if.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
You don't know by now, Lane Kiffin has a very
well documented history of abrupt departures, controversial departures from several
high profile coaching jobs. This may be the cherriot on
the cake. I mean, this is so stupid. We're gonna
get to it later. I'll gave you a chronology. He
obviously has a reputation for messy innings and he is

(00:56):
doing nothing right now to change that. But I digress.
I wanted to get to what should have been the
biggest news of the day. And if you happen to
watch the Michigan Ohio State game today, it is the
greatest rivalry in all the sports.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
It covered fourteen of him.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It started out as a land war in the eighteen hundreds,
So think what you want, but as you know, I
look for turning points of the game. And with about
six minutes to go in the first quarter there I
don't know, Michigan was.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Leading six to nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Ohio State's Bo Jackson took a little swing pass, turned
the corner and he pulled the old whipny n stanky
leg on Michigan's Jimmy Rolder and left his jock back
in Ipsilanti. And from that point forward, because I was
on with Aaron and Jason Icebeak, I said, look, Michigan
just will not be able to match Ohio.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
State skill this week. And they didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
And anybody who thought Ohio State wasn't physical when now
you're being silly.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
I'll have some have some stats for you here. But
I think.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Collectively you all can say your apologies to Ryan Day now.
I mean I have never He's been beaten like a
rented mule basically since he took over for well, he
didn't take over what he followed Erwin Meyer, let's face it, okay,
And then heading into this season, even though he won
the national championship, certain people who want to give him

(02:20):
props because he didn't beat Michigan, which I get, I
get if you want to go.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Down that road.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
And by the way, heading into this season, what if
I told you Ohio State lost eight.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Players to the NFL.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
They lost their entire defensive line and both coordinators. But
since losing to Michigan last year on November thirtieth, Ryan
Day is now sixteen to zero, including wins over number
seven Tennessee, number one Texas, number three, Penn State, number.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Five Notre Dame. In the playoffs last year by.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Accumulative sixty points, they beat number one Oregon. Listen, this
is a team at Texas Texas week one who is
preseason number one And if you're scoring at home and
hope you are. Ryan Day is now two and four
versus Michigan. Won a national championship in his fifth year.

(03:18):
Remember Jimmy Harball, Jimmy Joseph Harrball. He actually started out
zero to five against Ohio State. But those same people
that would put Harball and deify him, and no doubt
he's a Hall of Fame coach, no argument. You want
to treat Ryan Day like a bastard child. Harball won
a Nation Natty in his eighth year. Day one in

(03:39):
his fifth So back to that physical part. Yeah, Ohio
State out gained Michigan today four hundred and nineteen yards
to one sixty three. Just the facts, man, you don't
like him, not my problem. Title possession forty minutes to.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Nineteen minutes and fifty nine seconds.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
And I we're gonna get into the Brice one Underwood
thing a little bit later because I like price owners
under what.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
I like the way he carries himself.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I think he's got a lot of ability, but I
don't see twelve million bucks yet. And I saw a
lot of air and throws today that were late, not
on time, not on target, And maybe that's why Ohio
State had twenty two first downs to Michigan's nine. And
oh yeah, Michigan only had negative eight rushing yards in
the second half. But give Michigan credit. Their best defensive

(04:26):
stand was at the end of the game when they
all stood by the block in at midfield and formed
a blockade as if Ohio State was going to try
to plant their flag. The classless move Michigan poll last year,
I could say this.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
I lived there.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
I lived in that area for seventeen years, covered that
team for fourteen years. Among the Lions and other teams.
My dear Martha went to the University of Michigan. It's
a dignified institution, a wonderful institution, but they didn't show
it Saturday. They made asses of themselves. Ryan Days told
Sherwan Moore alike. He says, we don't want a problem here.

(05:03):
You better get your players off the field. Look, we're
not going to plan a flag.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
We I got to do that. My god, what the
hell was that about?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
That tarnished a situation that he's really majestic. And that's
the oh House State Michigan football game. And I gotta
tell you, be very afraid this Ohio State team's loader.
I know Michigan's young. They get to go to Columbus
last year. Next year, so we'll see what happens next year.

(05:30):
But for the first time in twenty ninety one days
since before the introduction of nil the transfer portal, well
all kinds of stuff, the Buckeyes again beat beat Michigan
down and give high props, high praise to Charles Woodson,
who was very classy after the game. He said, look,

(05:50):
they came in here and took care of business. They
beat us every which way. But Tuesday, when the line
of scrimmage won everything and Ryan Dave finally gets the
monkey off his back, and let's not forget after that.
Before that, Ohio stated won like seven in a row,
and it always goes back and forth. It goes back
to eighteen ninety seven. So now Michigan's had their little run.

(06:10):
They celebrate a little bit too much, and Michigan's got
a talent disparity. We'll see what happens next year. But look,
the truth of the matter is, until coach Day can
reel off more victories against Michigan, he's record against the
team up north, and images of his frozen posture following

(06:32):
that twenty twenty four meltdown is going to continue to circulate.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
That's just the way the world works. People love to.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Dunk on each other, But the truth of the matter is,
you know, Ryan Day has the last laugh. Saturday, his
rebuilt offensive line completely dominated the line of scrimmage. They
gave Julian Saying plenty of time and there were tremendous
rushing layans for Bo Jackson, who had one hundred and
seventeen yards. The defense was physical at the point of

(07:01):
the attack. Very much did bother Bryce Underwood enough to
hold the Wolverines. Bryce underwent through for sixty three yards. Now,
I gotta tell you, but David Warren, the starting quarterback
from Michigan last year, through for sixty two yards. So
for twelve million, you get one more yard. Got I'm
starting to wonder is he being developed properly at Michigan.

(07:24):
I don't see a lot of progression from week one
to what I saw Saturday. I'm sorry, and I saw it.
I see with arch Manning, see what look at Julian
saying he's a freshman too. So the truth of the
matter is for one day, Ohio State, you don't how
the scene works. It's they get to gloat for a year.
And I listen, I don't know who's going to beat them.

(07:46):
They may win back to back national champions championships.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
If they do that, that'd be twenty one wins in
a row. And that's the second big takeaway from Saturday,
Julian saying completely outplayed Bryce went Underwood in the matchup
of the first year starting quarterbacks. And I could give
a bunch of numbers, but you saw it.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Trust your rights.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
They tell you a lot, you know, Will Howard. People
made fun of him last year, but he still has
a national championship. But all week, fans and media members
wondered if Jeremiah Smith and Cardinal Tate would be available
after they didn't play against Wreckers. Smith had really looked
like himself for about three or four weeks. Tate hadn't

(08:25):
even played in the games since beating the Penn State
back on November first. But they were there Saturday, and
they showed up and showed out big time. And last
thing I'll say about the game, you know you were
one of these people.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Okay, there was an early first of all, Michigan busts
a run.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
You know, first play of the game, they'd taken ready
to field Grange and gets stuffed in the red zone.
But they're up three to nothing. They're off first blood.
Then Julian's saying throws a pick, and you know you
were saying, here you go. It got I was one
of them. That's my buddy, Arnie Spaniard. I called him
and said, I'm not backing off. Ohio State's gonna come
back and roll them. Just wait till they get going,
and they did. Michigan tried, but they were overmatched badly.

(09:12):
Ohio State flipped the field and the next thing you know,
you know. And by the way, Jay Sean Barklem is
a good player. He got kicked out of the Mexico
game for targeting a new Mexico game first week of
the year. It had to sit out a week head
butts a ref. He should link think his lucky stars.
He was not kicked out of the game, and I'm
glad he wasn't.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
You know. So at the end of the day, Ohio
States punter didn't have to take a shower.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Julian sand they don't really have to watch his uniform,
didn't get hurt. And give it up to Michigan kicker
Dominic Zavada. He's been struggling all year long, but he
had a very good game on Saturday. It's all Michigan
could muster. Were field goals, more field goals. When we're
ringing field goals to a touchdown fight doesn't usually work
out well. The other big takeaway, you know, Auburn didn't

(09:59):
beat Alabama. There's not a lot of other craziness. However,
if you would have told me Duke would play for
the ACC title next week. In football, even though the
record is seven to five. Well, does the ACC stand
for the All Chaos Conference? Are you kidding me? These
are the teams who won't play for the title next

(10:20):
week in Charlotte Louisville they're eight and four, Wake Forest
they're eight and four. SMU they're eight and four, Pitts
eight and four, Georgia Tech ninety three. And how about
the Miami Hurricanes ten and two. Hm, they won't play
for the conference title next week. It's Duke and Virginia.
Get your popcorn ready?

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (10:45):
What more can you say? The regular season was a blur?
And uh, you know Oregon they look scary. It's gonna
be a fun playoff. They went into Washington, a tough environment,
and and I know Texas is going to try to
make their case now they're being penalized for their velost

(11:05):
to Florida. But you know what, if they had they
give them credit, they had the coyones to schedule at
Ohio State week one. Had they not done that, you know,
they might be in the playoff. You know, had they
scheduled Roast Beef Tech, they'd be ten and two. Right,
But fifths and butts were candies and nuts. Well, you know,

(11:26):
what happens, then they're not going to take a three
loss team. They're not going to take a three loss
team in the playoffs. So Soarkisian can bitch all he wants,
But if they should have Beatlehouse State week one, I
guess it's easier said than done. I want to remind

the litany and the chronology of the message he's left

(12:08):
behind and how every profile he every profile job where
he has been the head coach, ended abruptly and many
times quickly, on serriumonously, infamously name of your own adjective.
That's Lane Kiffin and he's doing it again. Incredible, good luck, LSU,

(12:28):
you already hired the most unlikable coach in the history
of coaching, Brian Kelly and now you got the second
most unlikable coach, except he might now be the.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
Most unlikable coach. We'll see, by the way. I was wrong.
I thought he would stay. I was wrong.

All right back in the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Coming to live with the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. Just gave to start and we'll take
after three Pacific, six am Eastern. It's welcome into my
good buddy. Among his travels in the media, he has
worked alongside Brett Musburger and it is a true NFL

(14:00):
and Saturday, say all lit to my good buddy, Amaal
shaw Ma.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
How are you man?

Speaker 8 (14:05):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 9 (14:06):
Thanks, Bernie, how are you good?

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Good to have you.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
We got a lot to dive into before I do
want to preface it. Did you know that forty seven
games in the National Football League this season have been
decided in the last minute with a goal ahead, score,
last mien of the game or overtime. That's the most
ever in NFL history heading into December.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
But I digress.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Before we look ahead, I want to look back because
all four dogs covered and one out right Thursday and Friday.
I just want your quick take from each game Bears Eagles.
The Bears clinched their first playoff or check that their
first winning season since twenty eighteen. What's your takeaway from
that game?

Speaker 9 (14:48):
Well, Philly can't stop the run and they couldn't get
off the field on third down. Almost three hundred yards
rushing in ten for seven at seventeen on third down.
That was the difference in that one from a a
bear's perspective, excuse me, from a bear's perspective. And then
the other thing is Philadelphia they had a hangover. You know,
you always say the old Aders don't allow one loss

(15:09):
to beat you twice, and that's exactly what that Dallas
loss was. They were up twenty one to nothing in
the second quarter. Cowboys score with twenty one seconds remaining.
Think about this. The last six quarters they have thoroughly
been dominated and this has really put them in a
tough spot. Obviously the pressure of being the defending champion,
but you know, you see some of these things with

(15:30):
this team. We had the conversation with aj Brown earlier
in the season in sums that he's not happy with
his distribution of balls and things, and so Philadelphia better
find out pretty quickly if they're going to get things
on track. The only good thing right now, though, to me,
is outside of the Rams, and this applies to vote
the AFC and the NFC. I don't know which team
really could stand up and say they're going to be

(15:50):
the Super Bowl champion this year. I feel like it's
a wide open season and this might be a year
to take a look at a long shot.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah, good stuff, man, And which is a nice segway
into the next game.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
We want to talk about.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
The Cowboys Chiefs. Is Casey done? And could the Cowboys
make the playoffs?

Speaker 9 (16:08):
Well, you know, I don't want to discount Dallas. I'll
still have a ton of question marks about their defense.
But you know, confidence in anything in life is so
vitally important that we're seeing it with the Cowboys. That
win against Philadelphia really seems to propel them. In that
game against Kansas City to be able to hold on
kind of really be the forefront of that game where

(16:29):
Casey was playing from behind, makes a huge difference to me.
Mahomes was tremendous with four touchdown passes, but they got
what they needed done. They threw for over three hundred yards.
And I'm not going to sit there and discount Dallas
at this point in time. You know, they're quietly sitting
at six five and one. They won three in a row,
and they've got a tough game coming up against the Lions.
But the rest of the games, the Vikings, the Chargers,

(16:52):
the Commanders, and the Giants are all winnable games. I
definitely did not have the Cowboys would in ten games,
but this team is in a position where they could eat.
They finished the year ten six and once because I'm
not convincing charges of that good of a team. And
you know Detroit right now got some question marks about
them as well.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Yeah, it doesn't you know, that's the next game. I
want to talk about Lions Packers. I thought for sure
the Lions would pan back now, Frank Ragnow Flunx is physical.
The Lions have injuries all over the place, and they
host Dallas next week.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
I still think.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Detroit and by the way, they go to the Rams
later in the season, they can still make the playoffs,
but right now they're on the outside looking at quickly.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
What are your thoughts on Alliance?

Speaker 9 (17:34):
They got to get better defensively. I mean, you know,
Green Bay moved the ball effectively in that game and
then they go combined nine to fifteen between third and
fourth downs. Just can't happen. That was the problem in
that football game. And they've got to force some turnovers. Elion,
you got to get lines, have to get better defensively.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
No doubt about it. Finally, the Ravens. I think you
can stick a FOURK in them.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
I cannot.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
I believe, hollywe you were dominated by the Bengals Thursday night.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Your thoughts, I don't tell you.

Speaker 9 (18:08):
Bernie. I've met a small play this week on the
Bengals to win the division at twelve to one.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Why not?

Speaker 9 (18:15):
Well, they're three and one within the division. Yeah, we's
got a lot of question marks. They still have a
return date with the Ravens, and I think they have
another home game with the Browns, so they could potentially
finish up five to one in that division. Gives them
a good position. And this Ravens team defensively can't stop anybody.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
You know.

Speaker 9 (18:31):
I was on the Jets a week ago Sunday plus fourteen.
I was fortunate to win that game. Could have gone
either way late in that one. But the one thing
I'm realizing is Baltimore offensively, it's just not consistent. They
don't have it consistently. We saw them only put up
fourteen against the Bengals. I'd be very concerned if I'm
the Ravens right there.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Very concerned.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
And I will tell you that the Bengals really played
complimentary football. They were very energized by Joe Burrow's return.
All right, let's look ahead to later on Sunday, Buffalo
visits Pittsburgh, both teams coming off losses. Josh Allen was
sacked eight times last week committed four turnovers, but heading
into the game on all the Bills have the number

(19:14):
one pass defense and the Steelers ranked thirty first in
past defense, giving up two hundred and fifty eight yards
per game. Buffalo is short favorite on the road minus three.
Do you like a side here?

Speaker 9 (19:26):
I would take the home dog simply because Pittsburgh seems
to play well in that building. They just know how
to get things done. And this Buffalo team defensively's got
a lot of concerns. You know, you take away Josh
Allen and James Cook, they don't have much offense, right,
I mean taking about this Coleman was a healthy scratch.

(19:47):
I mean everybody was hyping him up a couple years ago.
I was like, I don't know, I guess you guys
didn't watch him play at Michigan State, but hey, okay,
and you know, so many guys get hyped up. And
I'm not trying to knock him, but it just doesn't
seem like there's anybody else stepping up. Well, can't get
off the field when they need to defensively. You know,
home dogs in the NFL generally have a lot of value.
I'm a guy that college are pub favorites NFL. I'd

(20:08):
probably play about seventy seventy seventy percent underdogs.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Yeah, you're spot on with those comments. It feels like
a Josh Allen doesn't score six touchdowns a game. They
struggle to find points. All right, this would be an
interesting one. Minnesota visit Seattle. I'm calling it the Sam
Darnold Bowl. But rookie Max Brosber I can't remember the
last time I quarterback from the University of Minnesota, made

(20:36):
a start in the NFL. I have to look at it.
It's not that big a deal. And that's just a
throwaway line. I think he's making his first start Seattle. Look,
they they have a firm grasp on the top wild
card spot. They're laying a big number. You'd never like
to lay ever, ever, ever double digits.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
In the NFL.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
But if there was ever a time, my goodness, you
might look up in this thing is thirty four to seven.

Speaker 9 (21:01):
Your thoughts, well, first, of all, you know you mentioned
the University of Minnesota product there. I don't want to
tell you right now. I watched him play at U
of M. And how this guy has wound up on
an NFL roster. I don't know if his name got
pulled out of a hat or if it was. You know,
it was like the with Lebron James Junior. Make a
wish program here because there's no reason for him to

(21:23):
be in the league. I'm just being honest here. I
love it, I love it, but listen, DJ Plex hasn't
had a quarterback in forever, right. I've always said, why
did in Minnesota just go direct snap? They'd be able
to roll the boat more effectively. They just went direct
snap and took out the quarterbacks. But this is going
to be a problem. This Seattle team is very good defensively.
They blew that game last week in terms of a

(21:44):
large lead against Tennessee. I don't think that'll happen again here.
I think it's gould be a real challenge as greatest
justin Jefferson is. It's very difficult when the quarterback is
not respected in terms of the ability to kind of
spread the ball around. I think I think this would
be a tough game. Look, I'm not going to lay
the number here, no, but I think this is one
where I'm not looking to take Minnesota, even though Minnesota's
got some pretty good parts and pieces. Again, the quarterback

(22:07):
position has become so important in football. I got a
quick question for you. I don't know if you remember
Henry Ellenson from Marquette. He was a basketball player.

Speaker 7 (22:16):
How Pistons took him?

Speaker 9 (22:18):
I think the eighteens pick a few years ago. I
watched him at Marquette and I remember going, I'm going
to tell you there's few people that watch more college
basketball than I do, And I go, what the hell
do you see? This guy can't play. It was the
same thing with JJ McCarthy. I never saw anything a mission.
Go oh, that guy was the first round pick. You
know he wants to come to Ohio State. The Buckeyes
didn't recruit him, and I don't understand how when you

(22:39):
had Sam Darnold doing what he was doing last year
they decided to let him walk. But they say, hey,
listen to the handoff merchant. That looks like our guy.
When we have the best receiver in football.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Yeah, they're paying for it now. Dearly, and you know
this is a team that was ready to win. By
the way, just top of my head, Tony Dungee was
a quarterback University of Minnesota and the f set in
Michigan in seventy seven. I'm just again, just another throwaway line.
But you know, Max Brosber for the Max Brosber fans.

(23:10):
Of course, if he goes you know what eleven for
twenty and throws a three yard pass behind the line
of scrimmage and they go sixty six yards, maybe they'll
give him Player the Century.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Oh that's a shador joke.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Thee. The Browns are hosting the Niners Sunday. Schudor gets
his second start.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Now.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
San Francisco is seven to two on the road against
NFC teams, or seven to two against NFC teams, but
interestingly enough, only one and two against AFC teams. The
Browns are gonna bring their sack exchange, right, they had
ten last week. Miles Garrett's gonna probably be all over
the place. But I want to talk about Shudor. Look,
I got no beef with the guy. I'm just not
anywhere near convince he's a major league quarterback. Do they

(23:51):
make the most of his opportunities last week. Does he
have the it factor? Do they play with different energy?
Come on, man, what are your thoughts on that game tomorrow?
Can sr Door do it back to back weeks.

Speaker 8 (24:01):
I think it'll be a different thing.

Speaker 9 (24:02):
I thought last week the number was wrong with the
Raiders being three and a half points favorites. I don't
know if the Raiders should be three and a half
point favorites against the team from the Mountain West Conference,
let alone an NFL team with that level of defense.
So for me, I'm not looking at lay numbers with
a team like that.

Speaker 10 (24:16):
Now.

Speaker 9 (24:16):
I played the undred thirty five and a half in Cleveland.
I think this number is going to come down. The
wind is going to be pretty strong if you're San Francisco.
It's funny you said that Berne. I was talking about
a friend of mine as a Niner fan. I said,
this figure game, we don't take unnecessary risk. You play
this in a way where you keep it conservative as necessary.
You know, today I was apoplectic when Brett Vennibles went

(24:40):
for it on fourth and one at the at their
own forties nine yard line against an LSU team that
couldn't move the ball and then they went up with
a pass interference and erupting the pass or on that drive,
an LSU ties up to three, and I'm like, just
pump the ball. In my opinion, Oklahoma's got the second
best defense in college football, and the same thing with
the Niners. In this game, you're playing against a quarterbacks

(25:01):
who he might be high on his own supply right now.
But the reality of it is they didn't do much
they got because their defense they were stuffing fortuitous situations.
I think you do the Niners. You don't take risks,
you play it safely. You're gonna be able to win
this game against the good defense, but you don't want
to give the Browns any short fields, any opportunities to
make play. I think the Niners win this game, but

(25:21):
this feels like a it's going to be a low
scoring game. I'm not getting involved in the number because
if the win becomes a factor, which I think it
could be, then you might wind up a little bit
of a scenario where it's a thirteen to nine type
of game or something like that. So they played under
thirty five and a half here, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
I actually got it at thirty six on Thursday, So yeah,
there's going to be sideways wind and precipitation and the
whole schmier coming off the lake there in Cleveland. So
I think your assertion is correct. Speaking of another game
where I think points could be to premium, the Texans
have won three in a row.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
They lead the NFL or the NF.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Well, yeah, the entire NFL in total defense culture number
two ranked offense three hundred and eighty four yards.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Per game, but Daniel Jones has the issue with his foot.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
An interesting game now, it'll be played in perfect conditions
in the Dome, but I can't really get my mind
around this one as well. You could have gotten the
Texas at four and a half a couple of days ago.
It's now down to Indianapolis minus three.

Speaker 9 (26:24):
Year thoughts amall and numbers come down a little bit,
quite a bit. They're going through four and three and
a half and now down to three. I still like
the Texans here. I think their defense has been underappreciated.
It's kind of the brown A similar situation with the
Browns offense wasn't sustaining drive. I think they'll be able
to play well enough.

Speaker 11 (26:43):
CJ.

Speaker 9 (26:43):
Stroud comings back in the mix here, hopefully, he can
stay upright and play better, But I don't like this
cold defense. Offensively, we know what they can do, but
I think it's gonna be a challenge. Will Anderson has
been tremendous this year.

Speaker 12 (26:55):
For this Texans team.

Speaker 9 (26:56):
I like the Texas. I did a kind of making
a late surge. When you look around the AFC right now,
Bernie bry were to ask you, which team do you
believe is coming out of the AFC, I could not
definitively give you one team and stop at Bronco fans.
You guys know you were perpetrating the fraud, and so
do the Colt Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
I couldn't give you one either, because when you throw
them into a bin, and I don't think Baltimore's gonna
make the playoffs, they blew it and we'll see.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
But you know, you get Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Kansas City's not dead yet, but anyway, you get your
points taken. All right, one team that everybody's completely gog over.

Speaker 11 (27:30):
But I.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Wouldn't look too far ahead. The NFL has a way
of looking a lot different than January. The Rams US
in Carolina another double digit favorite, this time around the road.
The Rams number one DVOA on offense and defense, double
digit road favorite. I sure as hell don't want to
lay the points ten and a half, but I don't
want to get in front of a speeding train either.

(27:55):
If you're Carolina, I thought they and I don't know
why they only give Rico Dodo the ball like twelve
times money night.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
But I digress. Thoughts on Rams Carolina.

Speaker 9 (28:04):
Yeah, I'm definitely not putting the Rams here. I like
Carolina in ten and a half. I haven't played it yet,
but I would look at them, and if you're like me,
you do a lot of in game betting. You know,
maybe it's a situation you wait to take a play
in play where maybe you get a thirteen and a
half or a fourteen and a half. The Rams jump
out with an early touchdown. But I'm not laying this
number on the road. If anything, I'm taking Carolina in

(28:25):
the spot.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
All right.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Last game, a good old fashioned division rivalry the Raiders
is that the Chargers Chargers licking their wounds, took a
week off after that. You know Cane, you know Caning.
They got in Jacksonville the week before. They're laying nine
and a half. I just don't know how in the
hell you back the Raiders, but again, you lay over

(28:48):
a touchdown in a divisional game like that, you're asking
for it.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
But I think the Raiders are just hapless.

Speaker 9 (28:53):
Your thoughts, Yeah, I think it's one of the few
spots where you look at it. I think a divisional
poem is going to get blown up. Raiders are horrific.
I think We've got to a point in the season
where God's going to be potentially making business decisions.

Speaker 12 (29:06):
And the other thing that helps.

Speaker 9 (29:07):
I think the Chargers are somewhere in between that performance
against Jacksonville and to win in Brazil against the Chiefs.
I'm not sure which team they are, but there's somewhere.

Speaker 11 (29:17):
In between, and I think they can really come out
and take care of business.

Speaker 9 (29:20):
Some of that Sunday night game where they destroyed the
Steelers at home. I think you can see a result
similar to that in this one. This is where Jim
Harbaugh is really done well over his career, whether at
the collegiate level and the professional level. I think they
Chargers blow the Raiders out in this game. I know
it's a division game, but man, the Raiders can't stop anybody.
I think Justin Herbert has a good day This is

(29:41):
where the Justin Herbert's a very good quarterback conversational comes in.
Let's go to three hundred yards or two seventy and
you're like, oh, you had a great game, and then
you realize he played Bishop Gorman High School and so
that's the reason why you know, he put up some stats.
And that's basically what the Raiders are at this point
in time. So I just can't back the Raiders at
any point time, Bernie. They are a bad team. Look,

(30:02):
I know the Titans have less wins. In my opinion,
the Raiders are thirty two out of thirty two. Wheres
Michael Lombardi says the Radiers are the thirty third team.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Yeah, I agree with all that.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
I'm slightly concerned about the Chargers offensive line, which is
a twenty car pile up. It's terrible. But again, I
don't know if the Raiders can take advantage of amall
great stuff was always tell the folks where they can
find your stuff.

Speaker 13 (30:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (30:28):
I'm on with Rick Newhizel Everage Friday on Serious x
tim and then follow me on Twitter at a mall
Shaw one.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Let's get you back in January when the playoffs start.
This is really good stuff. Appreciate you man, Thanks Bernie.
There is a mall Shaw, longtime NFL insider among his
you know resume, worked alongside Brett Musburger. By the way, folks,
for the best pregame show every weekend, be sure to
tune into Fox Sports Radios.

Speaker 3 (30:52):

Speaker 2 (30:55):

Speaker 3 (31:12):
Coming up.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
We're twenty two minutes away from the midnight hour. From
where I sit. The clock strikes midnight. Literally perhaps same
with you, but certainly figuratively, the clock strikes midnight, which
means you got the last word. Three saucy topics tonight
get ready eight seven seven nine nine six six three
six nine eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
We set up the topics in just a second.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
I'm Bernie frattlework comedy line from the Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio studios, don't go away, or listening to the
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back
at the Bernie Fradtle Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to
live from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
We are fourteen minutes away from the midnight hour.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Get those fingers ready eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six
six three six nine, eight, seven, seven, nine or nine
on Fox. From where I sit, it's gonna be midnight.
From where you sit, maybe the same, but figuratively it's
the minute. How you get the last word?

Speaker 3 (32:09):
All right? So, if you watch the Michigan Ohose State
game today and.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
You know you did, you saw two quarterbacks there are
both first year starters, Julian Sayan and Bryce Underwood. Now,
Sayan's on his way to maybe another national championship. Highly
efficient quarterback, nearly flawless season, leads the nation and completion
percentage very high in patching efficiency. He's very poised, a
very refined passer. Much for more refined passer. Excellent ball

(32:35):
placement and poise. He's having a much better year than
Bryce Underwood.

Speaker 8 (32:40):
Now.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Bryce Utterwards considered a more dynamic athlete. He has a
tremendous physical upside. I like the way he's carried himself,
has a strong arm, but his production way less consistent.
He's had some turnover issues, and I know he operates
in a run heavy offense in Michigan. And watch paid
twelve million for a quarterback. Side by side julians Anne's

(33:00):
completed the seventy nine percent of his passes, Bryce Underwood
about sixty two, maybe a little less. Bryce Underwood's throwing
for twenty one hundred yards Julian Saying over almost three thousand,
twenty seven touchdowns, four interceptions for Julian Saying, nine touchdowns,
five interceptions for Bryce Underwood. There's more, but you know

(33:21):
the long and the short of it is, Julian Saying
is considered the better quarterback, the more productive quarterback right now,
with a higher passer rating and better efficiency. But Bryce
Underwood very much noted for perhaps what might be a
higher athletic upside in arm talent. Here's your question, which
quarterback would you rather have, Julian Saying or Bryce Underwood

(33:43):
and why?

Speaker 3 (33:44):
And by the way, I like Charown Moore.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Okay, but if you never worked in ann Arbor and
you never lived there, then you're scratching your head as
to why people are their whispers about your own more
and its future.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
Not gonna fire him. He's going to definitely be back
next year.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
But he lost, you know, the three pivotal games this
year to USC to Oklahoma, and not Ohio State. And
that's just the way it works out there. If if
you don't get it, you think it's silly, Fine, you're
telling me you never lived there and never worked there.
I'm not saying I agree with it, but I'm not.
I'm curious why Bryce Underwood has not been developed better,

(34:21):
come on, look at it, Okay, Not that it can't
change next year. So I want to know from the
folks eight seven, seven, nine to nine one Fox eight seven, seven, nine,
nine six six three sixty nine, who would you rather have?

Speaker 3 (34:32):
You get?

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Probably three more years it starts Julian sand or Bryce
Underwood the second one. This one's going to be uh,
I think pretty I'm looking forward to the calls of
this one more than any of them. And I'm going
to get to the chronology later.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Lane Kiffin, as I said at the top of the show,
has a very well documented history of abrupt, very abrupt departures,
controversial departures, messi departures, and all from high profile coaching jobs.
He's got a reputation for messy innings. I'll tell you
what happened later with the Raiders, Okay, Al Davis not

(35:15):
only fired him for cause in September twenty eight, twenty
games into his tenure, he called him a con man
and a professional liar.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Kiffin left Tennessee after just one season he was seven
and six in January twenty ten to go to USC
calling in a dream job, less than a month before
National signing Day. It caused all kinds of fan outrage,
student protests, Mattress being burned by the way. Kiffin was
famously fired five games into the twenty thirteen season at

(35:45):
USC on the airport tarmac, and even Nick Sabit let
him go, all right, we're going to get into more.
We're going to get into more of the specifics on
that later simple question. It looks like Lane Kiffin is
on his way to LA Is it gonna work? You
know what I mean by that. You've had three coaches

(36:07):
this millennium win national championships at LSU. Nick Sabman did it,
then Less Miles did it, and then at Ordren did
it within a couple of years after Orgeron and Miles
one that they were fired.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Good luck, Lane, They've already done it without you. Is
it going to work at LSU? And you know what
I mean by that? I want to hear is it
going to work? And why so?

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Who would you rather have? Julian Sayan or Bryce Underwood.
By the way, and the Ohio State Game last year,
the quarterback for Michigan, Davis Warren threw for sixty two
yards on Saturday. Bryce under went through for sixty three
yards three point five yards per attempt.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
You paid twelve million. I'm not picking on.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
The kid, but hey, come on, now you get in
a return on your investment. And I like them, but
I expected more. Number two is Lane Kivin gonna work there?
You know where I'm going with that. The third one
I've been wanting to do is for a while, I figured,
what the hell, let's squeeze it in tonight. Let's talk
about our good old pal Tony Romo, who I think
most of us by at this point consider him to

(37:09):
be a very annoying broadcaster. He rambles, He's got kind
of this overly casual style he's full of excessive chatter,
and he's even been accused of bias toward the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
I don't know if I know about that or agree
with that or what.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
But here, listen, here's what bugs me about Tony Romo,
who never won a damn thing in the NFL. And
the thing I remember most is when he bobbled a
snap in a playoff game in Seattle and costs Dallas
a playoff win. Tony Tony Romo put up some numbers
as as a cowboy quarterback, no doubt about it, and
he stepped aside for Dak Prescott in twenty sixteen in

(37:46):
a very classy manner. But what is it with these
fake play predictions. He's still I treated about it about
a month ago. They're gonna have fourth down, They're gonna way,
They're not gonna run to play, They're gonna draw. I'm
off side there. Next play, they run it up the middle.
He's got these fake play predictions. And there was sort
of this initial novelty of his quote play predictionability, but

(38:12):
I think it's completely worn off and it's not sustainable,
and it's inaccurate over half the time. Now he's very
much jumped to sharp. He was once praised for predicting plays,
but I think his commentary is now seen as vacuous,
and he very much lacks any kind of deep analysis
and more focused on silliness. Frankly, so, he's got this

(38:33):
overly casual rambling style. He's loose and goofy, and he
goes off on tangents, and I think it's very distracting.
I don't think he's informative at all. Excessive chatter, perceived bias,
lack of deep analysis. He's been accused of making inappropriate comments.
What those are I don't know. But the main thing
that bugs me is he tries to give quarterbacks and
teams and offensive coordinators advice when he never won a

(38:56):
damn thing in the National Football League.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
I mean not a thing. He was annoying. So Tony Romo,
do you feel the same as me?

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Or a Mile Wett? Do you like Tony Romeo? Hey,
this is fun, relax, man, We're all having this. This
is all fun here, all right. So number three, Tony Romo,
do you like him? Do you feel the same as me?

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Give him? Take them? There you go.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
So Topic number one Julian sand versus Bryce Underwood, Who
do you like more?

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Who would you rather have? And the thoughts on your
own more?

Speaker 2 (39:26):
And if his criticism is warranted? And then of course
number two Lane Kiffin. Will he have success at LSU?
Will he win a national championship there? It's national championship
or bust at LSU. If you don't know that by now,
you're gonna know it. And then finally, Tony Romo, I
think he's annoying as a broadcaster. You know where I'm

(39:48):
going with that. So those are our three topics eight
seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine, eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox, Let's have some fun
with this night. Look forward to the comments and the
intelligent comments and the thoughtful comments. That's why we do
the midnight hour. It's all about the callers. So the

(40:09):
midnight hours here, keep it locked. You're listening to the
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
That's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Frattle Show
keeps rolling right along, coming.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
To your line for the Fox Sports Radio compound here
in Las Vegas. The phone lines your Jim, please be patient,
we're gonna get all of you, all of you. We've
got obviously three cool topics. Julian sand versus Bryce Underwood,
Saint one hundred and through for sixty three yards Saturday

(40:44):
Davis worn through for sixty two last year in the
Olim State game.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Who would you rather have? Who's got the better upside?

Speaker 2 (40:50):
They're they're both gonna start three more years, and then
of course we've got the situation. Look Lane Kiffin, he
has a very well documented history of abrupt, controversial departures.
Is he gonna make it at LSU if he ends
up going there?

Speaker 14 (41:07):
You know?

Speaker 3 (41:08):
You know where we're going with that.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Finally, Tony Romo, the lovable goofball, I think who's become annoying,
overly casual, His fake you know, play picks predictions, they
don't work anymore.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
Hat it with him? Yep?

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Start for the midnight hour. All right, please be patient.
I'm want to get to all of you. I really
want to hear what you all got to here.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
We start with Steve in Los Angeles. Steve lead us
off tonight. What do you got for us?

Speaker 10 (41:32):
By Hey, Bernie, Okay, I want to talk about usc
which I'm totally sick of living the life of Riley.
I don't mean chester A Riley a ka, Babe Ruth,
I mean Lincoln Riley's.

Speaker 3 (41:51):
He's no better than Clay Helton from what I can see.

Speaker 10 (41:53):
Go ahead, Yeah, now, I was watching. I watched this
guy through his tenure at Oklahoma, and he's done nothing
different than what he had already done at Oklahoma. He
hasn't up his game at all. And the thing is
is that I'm an old guy. So I go back

(42:15):
to the Arab part Siegeon and and John McKay days
of the Irish and the Trojans, and the idea that
this guy can come in and have even an opinion
contra you know, to dismiss for whatever reason, the Irish

(42:40):
and USC rivalry, which after Ohio State and Michigan, and
I think that's the next biggest.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Yes, let's just send it here. I let you went
off the off the grid there, my friend.

Speaker 3 (42:56):
But that's okay, okay, I'll get to your three. Well,
well you gotta go quick now because you use used
one up.

Speaker 10 (43:02):
Go all right, I'm in lockstep with you over Tony Romo.
Nothing more needs be said. I go for the fans, kid.
That seems kind of obvious at this point and as
far as Lane Kiffin, I'm a norm chow An organ guy,

(43:23):
so I'm not much for Lane Kiffin. I don't expect
him to win a national championship at Ellis.

Speaker 8 (43:32):
So that's what I have to say about that.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
By the way, Lincoln Riley's all, what canceling the Yes
C Notre Dame game is ridiculous. I don't know what
the hell Colin Coward's talking about. Well, when I went out,
the game played in a Blizzard. It's never been played
in a Blizzard. It doesn't Blizzard in October. Okay, it
doesn't or November.

Speaker 3 (43:49):
It doesn't. Silly, we're being silly. Kyle and Vegas. Welcome
and Kyle, what's up?

Speaker 15 (43:55):
Uncle Bernon, what's happening? I hope you en Georgias given
the whole career. There we go, There we go?

Speaker 10 (44:03):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 3 (44:04):
I'll go ahead, letter Man, we got all righty.

Speaker 15 (44:06):
So I got you?

Speaker 8 (44:07):
I got you.

Speaker 15 (44:08):
First off, I don't really care about Ohio State Michigan.
You know, I'm a role Tie fan all day every day.
I'm glad I won today. Either Either quarterback is going
to be a watch to me.

Speaker 11 (44:17):
I don't care.

Speaker 15 (44:19):
Both both young men seem super talented. At the end
of the day, one of them is going to do
better than the other. We're always going to have a
breakdown analysis of which one is going to be one
UP or one A, one B coming out of their
respective draft class moving forward. Number two, should we.

Speaker 8 (44:36):
Just change his name to Lame Kiffin?

Speaker 15 (44:38):
Because that seems like at this point he's just really lame.
I'm tired of hearing about the guy. He's been in
the news in the media for the past fifteen years,
in fifteen twenty years.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
Longer, when do you hear my chronological dissertation of every
one of his stops later on the show, Go ahead, Kyle.

Speaker 8 (44:54):
Exactly exactly.

Speaker 15 (44:56):
And lastly, mister Romo, and and I say this with
all due respect with mister Tom Brady as well, but gentlemen,
please take a lesson from mister Greg Olsen, who doesn't
insert all of his wacky, witty stories like I heard
Tom over the weekend saying we used to run a
play like that called.

Speaker 11 (45:12):
Scat Boob and this is what we do, and that
used to run and I used to.

Speaker 9 (45:16):
Run with player body and it's like, bro, nobody cares.

Speaker 15 (45:18):
Tom. We watched your career, my guy, we watched it.
Tony Romo, we thank you with the Chicago Bears. I
gotta throw that in there really quick, but Chicago Bears,
thank you for all those picks that you give us
out of the many years.

Speaker 8 (45:29):
We love you for that.

Speaker 15 (45:31):
And and lastly, Bernie, you know, I gotta say this,
I wish you would have had one for the Bear.
Are the Bears that good? Or are the Eagles that soft?

Speaker 8 (45:40):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (45:41):
That's a good question. Thanks Kyle. Something wrong in Philadelphia.
And by the way, I feel free to invote Greg Olsen.
When I look at Greg Olsen as a broadcaster, he's
like a shiny Bentley Rulls Royce gleaming in the sun
after being washed and waxed.

Speaker 3 (45:58):
Tony Romo, he's like a car pile up. That's how
I see it. Stephen, Kansas City, here we go. What
do you got, Steve?

Speaker 12 (46:06):
Oh, Bernie Man, go with your gut.

Speaker 8 (46:08):
Your gut is good.

Speaker 12 (46:10):
Give me, give me more of that.

Speaker 11 (46:11):
Uh.

Speaker 12 (46:12):
You know that's one of my pet peeves. You know,
I don't even mind that Tony Romo has problems with
the Chiefs. It's just I'm gonna kind of come at
this from a different angle. I think the problem is
Tony Romo is just being himself and jim Nantz can't
jim Nance can't reel him in.

Speaker 2 (46:32):
That's that's true, But you know what bothers me? And
I don't think Brady's any good as a broadcaster too.
But he won Super Bowls. Okay, Tony never won anything,
and he's given guys advice go ahead, but I don't.

Speaker 12 (46:44):
I'm not gonna hate on the guy because he's he's
just revealing his own personality. But but jim Nants has
decided that he's gonna let this guy play a pool
and make him make him a pool and jim Nantz
is too good of a broadcaster to be doing that,
all right, and retirement, you're.

Speaker 3 (47:06):
Fair about Romo. You'll just get him a hawp ass.

Speaker 2 (47:08):
What about uhiff and and and what about the two quarterbacks?

Speaker 3 (47:13):
Person?

Speaker 12 (47:14):
Yeah, I heard Lane's gonna talk to the team at
ten am tomorrow and Marty Smith said he's been texting
with Nick Saban and uh and Pete Carroll. You know,
Lane is kind of like your your dumb brother in
law who you know, sort of lucked into a lottery job.
Or something. And and this guy is never gonna he's

(47:36):
never gonna win anything at LSU. You just tell him,
you kind of be nice to him. You tell him
to take the bag and and and don't don't hurt
anybody that don't drive any any any big equipment or
while he's drunk or anything. The guy, the guy is
a weirdo. And you know, I hope he I hope
he does well. But you know, I don't think he's

(47:58):
gonna do anything. I know, I don't think he's going
to do anything.

Speaker 10 (48:01):
He's just what he is.

Speaker 12 (48:03):
He lucked, he lucked into a situation.

Speaker 2 (48:06):
He's a he's a complete load in the shorts. This
couldn't have gone any mess year and he didn't have
to do that. Coaches all the time. But he's got
to turn it into the you know, ten alarm dumpster fire.
All right, Julian sand versus Bryce.

Speaker 3 (48:20):
Underwood, did you have rather half for the next three years?

Speaker 12 (48:23):
You know, I'm Underwood all days. It would have been fantastic.
It would have been fantastic to the Ohio state go down.
Hopefully Indiana will take care to take care of him
next week. I I'm I'm Michigan I'm Michigan all the way,
Michigan and the un if.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
Your paycheck, if your paycheck where it was was dependent
on uh ye, okay, I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (48:48):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 12 (48:51):
I bet on the future. I'm betting that he's going
to be He's going to be the guy in the future.
And my my wild card is on this holidays, the
farewell to l Duncan going to Netflix and we're getting
rid of her on on the Mouse on the Mouth
Sports Network. So another another person that we sort of

(49:12):
like a Tony Romo as broadcast is leaving.

Speaker 3 (49:15):
So I appreciated Steve. Thanks, uh Manuel, how you been there?

Speaker 2 (49:21):
Man Well Man well in Guardina, the legend known as
man Well in Guardina, welcome in.

Speaker 11 (49:28):
Just won't and celebrate Bernie Man never been here. I
hope you had a great Thanksgiving with your family, man.

Speaker 3 (49:36):
Sir, thank you. You hope you did too.

Speaker 11 (49:39):
Yeah, yeah, it was, it was beautiful. I don't know, Man,
I come out a little different on Lane. I know
he did make a mockery of it and make a
mess of it, but isn't doubt what today's day in
ages we're talking about guys at four different colleges at

(50:01):
you know, seven year majors. It's all the way out
the window, all of it. So okay, kudos for Lane, Man,
and I do think he's gonna win.

Speaker 9 (50:12):
You know, Bernie.

Speaker 11 (50:13):
One thing about Lane the guys was silly good Man
and he gets knocked down, he picks himself up. Bill
and I don't know what that what are the last
callers was saying about he's narrow and granted he hasn't
really won a national championship on his own, but he

(50:34):
was a big part of a few of those Alabama runs.
And oh, miss man Ole Miss hasn't been squat other
than what when Archie and Eli were there, all.

Speaker 2 (50:44):
The more reason for him to stay exactly, and interestingly enough,
Saban got rid of him a week before the twenty
seventeen National championship game. But listen, I like the variants
of opinions. So you're like, hey, Lane's earned the right
to do this. People want him. That's the way it works.
Man supplying to Man, and he's one on one.

Speaker 3 (51:04):
I'm with you on that. What do you think about
the other topics.

Speaker 11 (51:08):
I can't really speak on the Ohio State Michigan thing.
I mean, typically as I think about, you know, football,
other than Tom Brady, I can't really think of any
OSU or Michigan quarterbacks that really lit up the NFL.
So you know, I mean I would go Brewsters, millions,

(51:31):
none of the above.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
Little John Candy reference. All right. Finally, do you like
Tony rollmore or not? I think he's a clown.

Speaker 11 (51:41):
He is a clown. And you know another thing, it's
the state of the industry, Bernie, I mean Kirk Galdi,
Vin Scully, Keith Jackson, no more, you know, I mean
all vern Lund Quiz these guys that were great, you know,

(52:03):
and just black and white, you know, showing the game,
knowing when to let the game breathe, you know, instead
of like they're saying, inserting all of the crap, like
nobody gives a damn about that game you played against
Pittsburgh in twenty twelve, you know, like just a bunch
of stuff. Man, Like, let the stuff on the field speak,

(52:25):
do your research and get the fans what they want.
An old school broadcast. But you know, hey, man, I'm
the old man screaming at the clouds, right, Bernie, keep
up the good work.

Speaker 15 (52:37):
Love you, my man.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
Good to hear from me. Man, Well, don't be a stranger.

Speaker 2 (52:42):
We go out to Colorado. We're joined by another Broncos fan.
Welcome back in.

Speaker 3 (52:46):
How are you?

Speaker 8 (52:48):
That's the good Bernie good Man. I'll tell you what
you know something. I'm glad to hear your voice is
doing excellent. We've been kind of plagued with the cold
around here in the whole shot. Anyway, let's just jump
into it. The first one, the tea quarterbacks. Yeah, can
I reserve that spot for something else? I want to say? Yeah,

(53:09):
go go ahead, dive in Kiffin. Oh good god, I'll
let you get what you want. You know, I really
question his loyalty over the years with you know this
and that the other I'm going hmm, I mean, Excells
knows great, but damn, I really question its loyalty as

(53:29):
far as uh well, no, let's discuss that. And then
I was gonna say something about Romo and no, no,
I don't think he anyway fair enough. But anyway, Romo, No,
I'd rather listen to Dave Logan on KOA Regional. He's
a professional, he's a little bit of a homer, but no,

(53:52):
I'd rather listen to him. It's unfortunate with the Simon
Cass As far as the whole situation with the Okay,
we're gonna have three seconds and blah blah blah. But anyway,
what I'd love to say is, as a Colorado sports fan,
professional teams, the Broncos, the Avalanche, the Nuggets. Wow, how sweet?

(54:15):
How sweet?

Speaker 3 (54:17):
Yeah? I agree with all.

Speaker 2 (54:19):
I appreciate you checking in again tonight, Broncos fan. Always
a pleasure. We go out to Phoenix. My man Daves,
who I know is a Michigan man, and Dave, I'm
sure you've got some thoughts.

Speaker 16 (54:34):
I do.

Speaker 17 (54:35):
Bernie. Actually, I have no real strong opinion on Tony Romo,
so I'll go to the other two topics. I do
have strong opinions, and as far as the two quarterbacks,
saying in Underwood as of right now, you'd have to
go with saying he's had a much better season, but
he also has a much better surrounding supporting cast. So

(54:57):
I would preserve judgment until we see what happened in
the next couple of years. But I would say this,
Michigan had a really easy schedule this year and they
did not take advantage of it. The next two years
they're going to have much much tougher schedules. And to
make my point, you know, Michigan has a nine to

(55:17):
three record that looks okay. But who did they beat
for their nine wins? I can answer that question.

Speaker 2 (55:21):
Well, here's here's the larger issue. Rather than do all that,
they lost to Oklahoma and they didn't look good. They
lost the USC and look good, olstall House, State didn't
look good. And the thing about the supporting cast day
which I would respectfully push back, I'm going to give
you twelve million bucks. Feel free to elevate your supporting cast.

(55:41):
And oh, by the way, why the hell doesn't Shorelan
Moore let him do anything? They don't let him do anything.
I don't see a lot of throws down field. You
paid twelve million bucks for the guy.

Speaker 17 (55:52):
That's a good point. And in fact, last year Michigan
had much much less talent on offense than they this year.
And yet they escape go to the offensive coordinator and
fired him, and they brought in Chip Lindsay and they
told us how much greater he was going to be
and how he's going to be a fantastic difference maker.
Well we didn't see much of a difference. A little

(56:14):
bit of a difference, sure, but not a huge improvement.
So I would say it's a disappointing season. They in
two years, Sharon Moore has eight losses, could end up
being nine. In the three previous years they were forty
and three, culminating in the national title. So there's a
lot of work to do and they're going to have
to overcome a tough.

Speaker 2 (56:34):
Stet that next year is going to be a very
pivotal year. And I like Charon Moore, but look, you
live there. I live there, I worked in that market.
You can't explain it to people who don't get it.
There's already whispers about Sharon Moore. Finally, real quickly, Lane.

Speaker 18 (56:48):
Kiffen, Yes, well, Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 7 (56:52):
You can argue either way whether he should be allowed
to coach Old Miss in the playoffs.

Speaker 17 (56:56):
I don't think they're going to.

Speaker 11 (56:57):
Let him coach.

Speaker 17 (56:58):
But interestingly, off to coach at Tulane and the coach
at North Texas Core Leaving, are going to be allow
to coach in their conference title games, and if they
make the playoffs, they'll be coaching.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
In that and cour but but, but, but Glayne Kiffin's
leaving for a conference rival, and he's gonna steal without
damn team.

Speaker 11 (57:17):
So he got here.

Speaker 9 (57:18):
You're right, You're right, You're right.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
I don't mean to be short with you, Dave. I
want to hear from you more often. I we got
tons of phone lines. We've got a lot of stuff
to get to. Tyler and Minnesota, Andrea Massachusetts, Poppy, Jimmy
New Hampshire, Kendy in Alabama.

Speaker 3 (57:32):
We're gonna get to all of you. I want to
hear from all of you. Please be patient.

Speaker 7 (57:36):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
We're often running with the men night hours, the callers
that make it great. So hang right there because we're
going to be resume quickly. I'm Bernie Frattle, coming to

Speaker 2 (58:05):
That men at hour keeps rolling right along. We go
out to Minnesota. We're joined by Tyler. Tyler, thanks for
hanging on.

Speaker 9 (58:13):
Welcome in, Hey, buddy, thanks for taking my call. The
one thing that kind of annoys me with Lane Kiff
and stuff is like he's saying he's going to a
or not sec rival. Yes, but I've kind of got
numbed to it over the years because one thing before
Nil hit that these college coaches could ever they can.

(58:33):
They can do whatever they want anyway. They could promise
you something tonight and tomorrow they're going to Baylor.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
Okay, very true, but but this is over the top
because he wants to coach the team. He's supposed to
make a decision. Okay, you know where we're going with that.
So if you're okay with it, if it's just all
part of Christopher the milk.

Speaker 9 (58:51):
Ahead, that annoys me. But the analogy I'd use is
like you've got a girl you've been dating for a
long time, you're going, you know, six seven years, you
think she's your wife, all of a sudden, this better
looking girl with a little more money, or.

Speaker 15 (59:05):
She just something that you think is a.

Speaker 10 (59:09):
You know enough.

Speaker 11 (59:11):
Here's the thing, Tyler hear it's probably about.

Speaker 3 (59:15):
Yeah, here's the deal.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
He's got an entire organization of people, one hundred players
on that roster whose lives are at stake a coaching staff.
So look, if he wants to leave, fine, people do
it all the time. But he's it's another Jackassian way
of doing it. What are your thoughts on the other
two tops?

Speaker 9 (59:33):
It's horrible. I, like I said, I just got so
numb to it with college coaches where I've seen so
many of them on TV come out and say one day,
I love this place more than anything in the world.
I would do anything for these guys, and then next
day they're gone. They signed the bigger deal, And I.

Speaker 11 (59:49):
Get that, But like this thing is, you know, this
is a girl you could marry, you could.

Speaker 9 (59:53):
Stay there for a long time, make a great name.

Speaker 8 (59:55):
He's he has what we all get.

Speaker 3 (59:58):
We all get the rationale.

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
They've already won three championships at LSU in the last
twenty two years.

Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
He just another notch on the belt.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
He could stay at Mississippi and in a po statue,
let's move on off off the jackass Kiffin.

Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
I've really I get it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
You're you're you're just being rational and that everybody else
is doing it, So why is he so bad?

Speaker 12 (01:00:16):
Fair?

Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
Okay, let's move on to Tony Romo and or the situation.
Who would you rather have Julian Saying or Bryce Underwood.

Speaker 9 (01:00:25):
I got still burned out watching the Underwood kid early
in the year. I haven't paid much attention.

Speaker 19 (01:00:30):
To Michigan for the last few weeks because I.

Speaker 9 (01:00:32):
Got burnt out. I think he's young, he could do well,
but I just didn't think he was processing anything.

Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Well, he's not. He's not, And that's part of the
I don't know if it's development or what.

Speaker 9 (01:00:43):
Well, it's football. If you don't have a quarterback that
could either do both or one really good if you're both, Like,
he's a good runner, but I just don't think you
passed the ball. I don't think he win a college championship.

Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
Yeah, he's one dimensional.

Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
He's way far away from being at that plateau real quickly.
Do you like Do you like Tony Romo?

Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
Yes or not? Yes or no?

Speaker 9 (01:01:04):
I'm not I'm not a Romo fan. Like way, when
he started calling out the players doing whatever, I thought,
all right, this guy's great, he's gonna be great. Well
that's turned into.

Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
Being a rambling that's weren't off yet.

Speaker 9 (01:01:15):
Whatever. But the one thing I want to ask you
is what is your opinion on Chris Collins Earth, Because
he's like Romo annoys me, but Collins worst When he's
calling out everybody a six wide receiver and the team
catches a you know, slot route, he calls him the
best player, and he's never seen somebody so good in
his life, and like it almost gets sickening where everybody,

(01:01:39):
everybody has the next play in the game is just
the greatest person or the greatest player.

Speaker 11 (01:01:43):
He's used to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Hey, thanks a lot, Tyler, don't be a stranger. I
think you're a first time look. I like collins Worth
a lot. He's a lawyer. I had a successful NFL cark.
He's incredibly popular among his peers and broadcasters. A little
bit of history onics there, but I think by and large, uh,
he's his his zeitgeist, his intelligence, his ability to analyze

(01:02:06):
a billion times better than Tony Romo will ever be
Andre in Massachusetts?

Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
Where you have been? Man?

Speaker 14 (01:02:13):
How are you doing?

Speaker 12 (01:02:14):
Ernie?

Speaker 11 (01:02:15):
Good to be with you.

Speaker 20 (01:02:16):
It has been too long, This dreaded day shift has
has gotten in as a way of my passion in
reaching out.

Speaker 11 (01:02:23):
So we got to get that in order.

Speaker 18 (01:02:24):
We got to line up the work.

Speaker 20 (01:02:25):
Life down look in terms of lane Cifsan what does
Dennis Green say they are who we thought they were.

Speaker 10 (01:02:31):
Is that what he said?

Speaker 20 (01:02:32):
Well, Lane Kiffin is who we thought he was. He's
always been this guy. Going back to him, he was
at Tennessee. He was at Tennessee for a quick you know,
two shakes of a lamb tail. What get you got
a little bit of barbecue, you know, some of that
good home fo home soul food, good cooking. Next thing,
you know, usc come.

Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
Clost team games.

Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
I'm gonna give a litany of his chronology later in
the show.

Speaker 10 (01:02:55):
Yes, so he's always been this guy.

Speaker 20 (01:02:57):
I'm not sure why the folks you know down you know,
old Mississippi, I'm not sure why they're like thunderstruck or perplexed.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Well, because because they're they're they're about to make the playoff,
which you've never done, and he wants to leave for.

Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
A rival, a conference rival.

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
This this brings you to new level launderie, a new
level of jack assery, I think.

Speaker 20 (01:03:18):
Indeed, indeed, but if you're if you're you know, with
somebody that has that Diane Diana Ross.

Speaker 9 (01:03:24):
Level divus in them.

Speaker 20 (01:03:26):
Okay, we're not just talking about one of the supremes.
We're talking about the supreme of the supreme and he's
always been like that. So yes, I do to your point, Bernie,
it does hurt because you know you're you're on the
precipice of doing something they haven't done before, and it's
it's this great season and then now but we's pulling
the rug out from under you, as you might have

(01:03:46):
suspect that he might do the thing for me is
and other calls have said it that they you know,
and I'm not rationalizing it because you have a wild
West with the nil and the transfer portal, and really
College Athletics has just gone absolutely buck wild across the board.
That doesn't give Lane any any cover. But in terms
of getting rid of him for the playoffs, even though

(01:04:08):
I know it's frustrating, you might want to just keep
you because he's he's the best coach that you have available,
so I might keep him. So your point about what's
going on the big game today Michigan and Ohio State,
Ohio State kind of handling business and getting hot which
quarterback I would prefer? I feel listen, this kid bright Underwood,
twelve million dollar man. You know they gave up everything

(01:04:30):
but the kitchen sink to get him for me, Michigan's
missing a hardball, that's what they're missing, okay, and someone who.

Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
Can develop them. That is that where you're going with that,
someone who can develop them, Okay, okay.

Speaker 20 (01:04:40):
Exactly, you know, and so they're not you know, it's
you know, it took hardball some time. He was getting
the break speed off of them by Ohio State for
some years and then once he you know, found his
niche and got in his group, he took them to
a national championship and then he parachuted out to the NFL.
So with Underwood, I just you know, Ryan Day, he's
been there. You know, they have to get their new programs.

(01:05:03):
Everybody's not carbum okay. So I think that's you know,
I don't know if they want to panic or do whatever.

Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
Well, they had to. They had to know that going in.
They figured this kid was plug and play.

Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
And I think he's conquited himself well, but I have
not seen an ascension towards his ceiling at all. In fact,
in fact, I've seen a regression real quickly. Tony Romo
andre yes or.

Speaker 20 (01:05:24):
No, yes for Tony Romo. But the thing for me
with him is that everybody's not a broadcaster. Just because
you're you can talk and doesn't mean you're a broadcaster.
It doesn't mean you're a journalist. So the luster has
worn off a little.

Speaker 11 (01:05:39):
Bit with him. You know what he came in, you know,
with all of his trips.

Speaker 20 (01:05:42):
Not wow, it's new, it's amazing, it's innovative. But over
time he doesn't. He doesn't have the core competency as
somebody who's spent years and years. That's it's the same
thing as when they give a head coach like JJ
Reddick's doing well.

Speaker 10 (01:05:56):
But you know, every time you just give.

Speaker 20 (01:05:58):
Somebody a head coaching job with no background, know, and
they get hot, could win a couple of games, but
over time there's a regression to the me. That's my
feeling on Room. I don't I don't have any animies
towards him, towards him, but he's no, no, no, he's just.

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
A fun loving gooseball. He's not my Yeah, he's not. Yeah,
he's not my Jim.

Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
All right, thanks a lot, Andre, appreciate it as always.
Hope to hear from me again, Poppy and san diego.

Speaker 19 (01:06:20):
Let her rip my man Berdie Well, you know the
first one was that college I don't want to. I'll
skip on that one. Uh you know, Ohio say is
a bigger, best team and our number one. So that
was a great rivalry game. So and onto the next one.
What's the next one, Bernie.

Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Well, do you believe Lane Kiffin is gonna make it
at LSU and win or not?

Speaker 11 (01:06:42):
I don't know about that.

Speaker 19 (01:06:43):
All skins college chock. I'll let somebody else in college expert.
I'll leave that for my rat. At the end, Bernie.
And the third one it was about yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Do you like him or not? I think he's become
a clown? Go ahead.

Speaker 11 (01:06:57):
So the thing I know about Tony Romo is there's Bernie.

Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 19 (01:07:00):
I'm surprised no caller than anyone says that when Tony
Romo was dating Jessica Simpson. I just want to know,
Bernie is is it Jessica Simpson.

Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
Or what I was like eighteen years ago? Remember before
a playoff game, the week they had a buyer week
and he went down to Cancun or something.

Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
All I remember.

Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
What I remember more than anything about Tony Romo is
the fumbled, botched holding of the field goal against Seattle
in the playoffs. Good night, Thank you for participating cowboys
go home, Yeah, and go.

Speaker 11 (01:07:31):
Home, man, how about them cowboys?

Speaker 10 (01:07:32):
Right?

Speaker 19 (01:07:32):
And then what my round was going to be up?
Bernie actually went to San Diego FC. They won the
Western Conference finals a game, that's why my boys looked
it out and we lost three to one against Vancouver.
The better team won Circulosano did score a goal. That's
why my boys a little bit alpo. I mean, I'm
happy for the first year we made history better team
in San Diego. And then Vancouver is going to be

(01:07:53):
playing in the finals against Leon Messi on the MLS
club and I'll be hopefully next week. You guys, could
we could talk a little bout it or else I
could talk about.

Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
It, but well you you I always open the you know,
thirty seconds or a minute if someone's got around. I
know you're a big soccer fan. Poppy always appreciates your enthusiasm.

Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
But I want to kind of.

Speaker 19 (01:08:11):
Keep it, yeah, real quick, quickly what tomorrow? I like
to sayings and the Dolphins tune out by love minus
five and a half.

Speaker 9 (01:08:20):
Or are you taking the Dolphins tomhow Bernie?

Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Or actually I actually do like the Dolphins tomorrow? I
do all right? Thank you?

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
Bert all right, thanks, thanks Poppy. Seriously, I do Jimmy
in New Hampshire. Welcome in, Jimmy. Is this your first time?

Speaker 21 (01:08:34):
No, No, I've called you for Bruce.

Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
My bad, My bad. I got a few holes in
my game letter rip Jimmy.

Speaker 21 (01:08:38):
All right, listen, Lane Kippen. I'm not big college football guy,
but let me tell you some of I believe uh
that when you hire bad people, you gotta get bad
results sooner or later. And this track record speaks for itself.
So lsu, this program to me is been sketchy the
last few years. So I think they deserve each other.
And I don't have much heat. I leave it much

(01:09:00):
sympathy for old Messina because they knew what they were
getting with Playe Kippin. So I don't think there should
be a big shock that there's there's a drama drama
coming up here, and now there's talk about him poaching
personnel and all that stuff. So they all get what
they deserve it with this guy, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
You know, so you're not wrong, You're not wrong. It's
just just this one even feels over the top for him.
Thoughts on do who would you rather have Julian saying,
or would you rather have Pryce Underwood.

Speaker 21 (01:09:30):
I'm gonna have to take a pass to that for you.

Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
How about how about the legendary Tony Romo considered an
annoying broadcaster now his goofy style on and on play
predictions that falls short.

Speaker 21 (01:09:45):
This is what I called you about, Britty about Tony Romo.
I just care about the guy one way the other.

Speaker 15 (01:09:49):
Uh.

Speaker 21 (01:09:49):
And whether you like the guy announcing or not, it's
like going to a game and worry about the umpires.
I don't really care. However, I get to take a
little issue with you. A number of times he said
the guy never won a damn thing, so he doesn't
really have a right to his opinion or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
And oh no, he's got a right to his opinion,
but it's less credible when you've never won. Maybe he
won one playoff game, he didn't win like you're paid
to win as a quarterback in the NFL. And that's
why I take umbrage Jimmy, because he's giving advice at

(01:10:31):
what the next place should have been or what I
would have done there, and well you didn't do it
when you were playing, So anyway, you got the last
word Jimmy.

Speaker 21 (01:10:37):
Well, all I'm saying is from a guy you can
only get into a game with a ticket. There's many
people that broadcasted that haven't.

Speaker 11 (01:10:45):
Won a thing.

Speaker 21 (01:10:46):
Dan Founts, Dan Marino for example, and all that.

Speaker 7 (01:10:49):
So I guess said that's all true.

Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
But those guys are an annoying goofballs. Go go ahead, Jimmy,
I'm the same.

Speaker 21 (01:10:55):
Like I said, he's on my play breathe. I don't
care what was the other I'm the say. Some people
like him, some people don't. That's how the world, that's
how it works, you know. And but like I said,
I think it's a relevant whether he was a great
quarterback already good call.

Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
No good stuff, Jimmy, No, No, that good, good, objective,
pragmatic opinion.

Speaker 3 (01:11:14):
I appreciate it. Thanks a lot, good good, good enthusiasm too.
I like that, Kenny and Alabama. Welcome in the Bernie
Fraddle Show.

Speaker 14 (01:11:23):
Oh thanks for taking call of first time callers.

Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
Welcome in. Good to have you.

Speaker 14 (01:11:29):
Oh yeah, I want to start off with Lane kissing man.
I think he's the most overrated coach mavering about the
last ten to fifteen years, like all this hoopla over
guy that's never won a championship, a playoff game, a
conference championship game, and LSU was about to spend one

(01:11:50):
hundred million dollars on him. I think that's just ridiculous.
And all this drum and stuff that he's putting both l.
Shuter and the old mess through, it's just not called for.
It's not fair to the players, the coaches, their families.
It's not fair at all.

Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
And that's well said. It feels like he's leaving.

Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
He's holding a hell of a lot of people hostage
in the most egregious way, right before Mississippi's about to
go to their first ever playoff Go ahead.

Speaker 13 (01:12:23):
Yeah, it's just crazy, you know. I hope the committee
don't punish Old miss for this and leave them out
because that was something he's doing.

Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
I hope not too. I don't think that'll happen. They
may change their seed.

Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
I would say this, Kenny, that we were told this
new playoff format was going to make the games on
the field matter more. Well, I hope they remove some
of the subjectivity and put place Old miss.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
Wherever they would have been. I agree with you on that.
Anything on would you rather have Julian saying or Bryce Underwood.
Oh neither, Okay, Okay, we'll just leave it for your reason.

Speaker 14 (01:13:07):
Yeah, well two reasons real quick. I think Ohio State
and Michigan don't do the best.

Speaker 13 (01:13:13):
Developing quarterback and like Daja, McCarty is a prime reason
of that.

Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
And you know, ce J, you know, and I should
have clarified this, Kenny.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
I'm more alluding to they're both going to start unless
something crazy happens three more years at the respective schools.
I was more alluding to, as you, as you strive
for a national championship, would you rather have Underwood or
saying under center in college the next three years in college?

Speaker 10 (01:13:40):
Uh?

Speaker 14 (01:13:41):
Probably saying but.

Speaker 13 (01:13:46):
Yeah, neither.

Speaker 14 (01:13:48):
I just say this with queer like nil getting all
the nil money. It's just making you know, these guys
not value football as much.

Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
I think. Good point.

Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
Hey, Kenny, listen, I didn't manage a Clockwell, don't be
a stranger. H Coming up, we'll have John in Louisiana
will join us. Sit right there, John, the men at
hour Rock and n' rolling as usual. I'm Bernie Fraddwick
County Life from Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep
it locked and listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, back in the Bernie Frattle Show,
Fox Sports Radio, we go back out to the phones.

Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
John and Louisiana joins us. Your thoughts on the topics.

Speaker 22 (01:14:25):
John, Hey, hey, Bernie, real quick, could you rob me
of the first question?

Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Basically the first one had to do with Julian sand
versus Bryce Underwood, two freshman quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
Who would you rather have?

Speaker 22 (01:14:41):
Yeah, no, saying one hundred percent, staying over under one
hundred percent.

Speaker 11 (01:14:45):
I think Underwood can.

Speaker 7 (01:14:46):
Can be good.

Speaker 22 (01:14:47):
You got to develop a little bit more. But saying
saying his money, he can hit the deep ball, I
think it's by far staying so far.

Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Fair enough. Let's move on to, of course, the big topic. Kiffin.
Uh is he going to come through at l s U.

Speaker 22 (01:15:07):
Oh yeah, Now he's gonna have success. We're gonna win
interesting success, and he's gonna he's gonna perform a hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
Now, so you do think you do think he'll win
a Natty like saving less miles of not Ordron did?

Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
Yeah, Yeah, I think enough.

Speaker 22 (01:15:24):
I think it's I think it's definitely possible. I'm not
saying it will happen, but it's gonna be possible. It's
definitely gonna be possible. And Alix fans are going to
expect that.

Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
And well, there's no question Tony.

Speaker 22 (01:15:38):
There's unrealistic expectations in college football. What happened.

Speaker 7 (01:15:42):
But he'll he'll if it didn't work out, he'll get fired.

Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
So real quickly, John, Tony Romol, Yes or no? I've
I laid him out pretty good there earlier.

Speaker 14 (01:15:51):
Yeah, I think Realm's fine.

Speaker 11 (01:15:53):
He didn't bother me, But you know, I don't really care.

Speaker 22 (01:15:56):
I like to watch football and I'll meet the commentators
if I have to, But Freddie Romo, none of them
really bother me. Those guys rab people the wrong way
or not me.

Speaker 3 (01:16:06):
Hey, thanks a lot for checking in, John.

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
And what would be the big story at LSU if
he actually did win there, not if he crashes and burns.
The big story would be if Lane did win? All right, Jeff,
you're the final call, Jeff in Denver. We're bringing some
to that on the minute hour.

Speaker 18 (01:16:22):
Hey, Bernie, good talking to you. I had this time
in on this. I don't have much for the two
quarterbacks things. But Tony Romo is just doing his thing, man,
He's just put providing what he can provide. It is
what it is. But all right, Lane, the line Kiffin
thing is just absolutely wrong to tell kids all year long,

(01:16:44):
we're in it, this is what we're doing, stick with
the program, let's go, let's go, let's go, and then
to back out. It's just the most asinine thing in
the world.

Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Well, what makes you troubling, Jeff, is they're about to
go to their first ever playoff.

Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
I gotta fight in chance they lost one game this
year to Georgia, one game.

Speaker 18 (01:17:04):
To stay there and build your legacy there instead of
jumping ship. You tell these kids to you know, buy
and buy and buy in and then you back out.
What a horse is behind.

Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Yeah, you're never gonna like the way your coach leaves
if he's been successful.

Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
But this just adds tremendous insult to injury. The timing.

Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
He didn't make the announcement Saturday like you said he was,
and I understand there's all kinds of consternation. He's threatening
to steal a whole team and you better let me
coach during the playoff or I'm gonna do this. He's
like a petulant child.

Speaker 18 (01:17:38):
What the LSU doesn't go, You're gonna go somewhere else.
You know, you tell kids that you know buy and
buy and buy and then you leave. That is the
you know, you know, the pot calling the kettle black.

Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
Did you have a thought on Julian Sane versus Bryce Underwood.

Speaker 18 (01:17:58):
I don't even know who those guys are.

Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
Tell you, okay, no out gig good enough?

Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
Look anything else? Jeff, you got the last word.

Speaker 18 (01:18:09):
No, that's the only kipping thing is just absolutely wrong,
one hundred and on everything. I mean, you cannot buy it.
You cannot be a coach and tell people to buy
in and then.

Speaker 11 (01:18:20):
You back out.

Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Yeap point taking Jeff, thanks a lot, don't be a stranger.

Speaker 3 (01:18:47):
Of your screen.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Look, I'm gonna get to the litany later. The Oakland Raiders,
the Tennessee Evalls, the USC Trojans, Alabama and now LSU.
Lane Kiffin has a well documented history. He leaves abruptly,
he leaves in controversial fashion. He has had multiple high
profile coaching jobs and that's led to his reputation for

(01:19:14):
messy innings.

Speaker 3 (01:19:15):
I was hoping he wouldn't do it this time.

Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
But when you heard the things Al Dave al Davis
said about him, he called me and he called him
a con man, called him a liar. It was one
of the most craziest, one of the craziest press conferences I've.

Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
Ever seen in my life. And I remember it was
basically seventeen years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
He fired Kiff and al Davis fired Kiffin after only
twenty games for cause. All right, thanks to all the callers.
Great job coming up. Well you go to our man,
Mark Mendina. A little NBA coming up next. Keep it
locks to the Bernie fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:19:47):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
That's right, you heard the man Bernie Fraddles shows keeps
rolling right along. Take you up to three m Pacific,
six am Eastern. Thanks again so much to the great
men at hour callers. I wish we had more time,
but thanks to your patience, thanks to your input, you
are what make this segment great. Speaking of a great segment,
we're gonna jump to basketball now. Three simple words.

Speaker 3 (01:20:10):
It's that time.

Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
Mark Medina Medina Magic are Fox Sports Radio NBA guru
also a writer for essentially Sports Mark another week, another day,
another don it? How about those Lakers fourteen and four?
They've won six in a row. Honest to God?

Speaker 3 (01:20:29):
Is this sustainable? Or they just doing it against the
Utahs and Dallases?

Speaker 16 (01:20:33):
Bernie, you reader eat some crow and actually legitimize the
Lakers here or what?

Speaker 3 (01:20:38):
Well? Sure? I mean why not? Since the season's only
eighteen games? Why not?

Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
No, I'll eat some crow in that. I thought Lebron
would be out till December first, But I'm still good.
I don't have them in the conference finals or anything.

Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
No, and if they I'll lead crow in April or May.
But the truth of the matter, is this really sustainable?

Speaker 11 (01:20:59):
I think it is?

Speaker 16 (01:21:00):
Well, I'm a believer in the Lakers. Now, that doesn't
mean I'm a believer that they're going to win the
Voice of the Little Area of Brian trophy or beat
the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, but
I honestly wont to be surprised that they finished the
way the season is right now, second in the West.
That's not to say it's going to happen to Denver Nuggets.

(01:21:20):
They could have a rebuttal, but in the short term
their managing challenges because Aaron Gordon's out of the lineup
and hamstring injuries are always sticy. The Houston Rockets can
have a rebuttal because they have Kevin Durant and a
really good young core with Alvin Thompson and Albert Singhoun.
But look, the Lakers have laid down that this blueprint
can work. Luca Doctics is early running for MVP, Austin

(01:21:44):
Reeves is playing a case for him to be in
the All Star Game, and Lebron he seems alright with
playing the third option. And you know they're not strength
in numbers Golden State Warriors type depth, but the role
players aren't decent. So you add it all up and.

Speaker 3 (01:22:00):
Win some games.

Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
Well, I covered a team, the Detroit Pistons, where defense
did win championships, and you made factual statements about their
big three, and I don't think any of them can
guard a park car in the playoffs. You know, Minnesota.
Minnesota is gonna have something to say about it too.
It took the Lakers in five last year, and you're
you're gonna run back with essentially the same team with

(01:22:23):
maybe less depth and oh, by the way, defense.

Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
But listen, you answered my question, so let's not debate it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
It's only November thirtieth. I mean, we're a long way away.
You saw the MAVs. Cooper Flagg had a coming out
party against the Clippers Saturn. I scored thirty five points
as an eighteen year old, surpassed the aforementioned Lebron Will
Dallas wake up and do some things later in the year?

Speaker 3 (01:22:47):
Are they cooked well?

Speaker 16 (01:22:48):
Talking to Dallas average, they're firm believers that they're gonna
be all right once they got healthy. But I don't
see it. Cooper Flag he's going to become a really
special player. I think that he's shown, you know, barring
major injury, he's winning a Rookie of the Year. And
Klay Thompson, you know, how to breakout game tonight against
the Clippers and had some flashback moments as if he

(01:23:11):
was with the Golden State Warriors in his prime. But
I know Anthony Davis is back, but you never know
how sustainable his health can be. Kyrie Irving he has
an ACL injury. The earliest projection for him is likely
January February. And a lot of times when players come
back for ACL injuries, like they're not the same player

(01:23:32):
and they have to treat that season is almost a
gap year. So I would be surprised if the Mavericks
can take themselves out of this hole. But one thing
I will give the Mavericks credit after seeing them live
these past two games, they at least compete guys like
Nagie Marshall, great role player, two way talent, Cooper Flag

(01:23:53):
As I mentioned before, he's not afraid to get physical.
He takes on challenging defensive assignments. He's really aggressive at
the rim. Klay Thompson, he's for professional with his bench
playing role. So they're always going to give an honest
effort here. But I think it's just very telling that
how fitting this was.

Speaker 8 (01:24:13):
PJ.

Speaker 16 (01:24:14):
Washington was a late scratch because he's slipped on a
basketball and spraying his right ankle during pregame warmups. I mean,
I think that symbolizes that this team is going to
struggle to stay healthy and hence my skepticism. But again,
I at least do give credit to a man that
you know, there's no fractured locker room and they're all
trying to, you know, fight and still make it worth

(01:24:36):
their while.

Speaker 3 (01:24:38):
I agree with all that. Again, it's it's very early
in the season.

Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
And what's interesting is Lebron has actually gone almost thirteen
hundred games in a row while he scored. He's got
a double digit scoring streak. Do you think that gets
broken this year?

Speaker 16 (01:24:55):
No, I think it's just going to continue because there's
been so many games, right, I think, you know what,
this might be the one that's in then all of
a sudden, he goes on a scoring tear in the
second half. I think Lebron is very conscious of that.
At the same time, he usually plays the right way.
But you know, because he's still a focal point, at

(01:25:15):
least a third option on the team and on the floor.
When he's on the floor, he's been still effective playing
through injuries. I think that he's still going to get
that now. I don't think that he's going to be
eligible for any All NBA awards this season because you know,
it's the sixty five game minimum. He could really only
miss a handful more games. And I think that because

(01:25:39):
of where he's at in his career, they're going to
rest him on certain back to backs that he's not
going to be eligible for that. But I think that
double digits scoring streak, I think that he'll be able
to sustain that, frankly the rest.

Speaker 7 (01:25:50):
Of his career.

Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Tait of Mark Medina Medina Magic or Fox Sports Radio
Nbia Guru, also writer for Essentially Sports Mark.

Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
I want to go off the reservation for a minute.

Speaker 2 (01:26:03):
Is there truth to the rumor that the minority group
of the Phoenix Suns is accusing Matt Ishbia of using
his team as his personal piggy bank?

Speaker 16 (01:26:12):
Oh yeah, I mean this is all litigated now. Matdishpil
will say none of that's true. You know, this is
just you know, them trying to extort him and all
that and try to get some money out of him.
But yeah, there is a lawsuit in that. It's always
how it's solved in the courts, but it always starts
with allegations. But if I had a guess, I frankly

(01:26:36):
don't think this really goes anywhere.

Speaker 2 (01:26:38):
Yeah, it's just when things like that make news. And
by the way, has there been any follow up. It's
very much under the radar. The whole Chauncey Billups situation
with the poker games and the gambling. People kept saying
it's a tip of the iceberg. Well, I haven't seen
the second shoe drop yet, but what's happening with that.
It's just quietly for you know, proceeding behind the scenes.

Speaker 16 (01:27:00):
Yeah, well, earlier this week he pled not guilty, so
this is all these court cases take a while. So
he appeared in federal court earlier this week he pled
not guilty, So you know, they're going to make some scheduling,
you know, arrangements on him and Damon Jones on when

(01:27:21):
they appear in court next. But this is all just
kind of procedural. So the fact that you're not hearing much,
that's kind of just how litigation works. And as far
as what happens with the investigation with the FBI, you know,
I know that they've been trying to call you know,
different league officials to testify, so that's another part of it.

(01:27:43):
I think the other part of it is that the
league itself, they're going to cooperate with authorities with going
through their own investigation, with interviewing all these different people.
And so I think this is something that's going to take,
you know, upwards to a year, and we'll lowly but
surely have news trickle out about any of these developments.

Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
By the way, if I a digress for just a second,
I meant to bring this up. The Lakers are giving
up like seventy shooting inside of five feet, so they
lack rim protection too.

Speaker 3 (01:28:15):
Do they have a solution for that?

Speaker 16 (01:28:18):
Yeah, well they're not a weit defensive team. But one
thing I do want to point out is they didn't
bring back the same supporting cast, right. You know, Marcus
Smart is a really great defender. Same thing with Jake
Wulrabia as far as perimeter defense. And that helps because
Austin ree Is, Luka Dodgis that are giving an honest effort,

(01:28:39):
better effort defensively this season. But they're not elite defenders.
You know, I think as far as you know what
they do on their front court. DeAndre Ayton, he again
he's not going to be an all defensive player, but
he has shown an engagement level. You've seen the best
version of him so far because he's gained so many
easy baskets and as a result of that, he is

(01:29:00):
giving an honest effort in the interior.

Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
God bless him. But that's kind of like being the
best hockey player in Argentina right now, you know. Anyway,
moving along, and I should have mentioned this too, because
you're here again, that's right. Don't forget to try to
send my bonet spaghetti here all week. Listen, let me
say this mark because I meant to bring this up,
and I'm kind of jumping all over the map tonight.

(01:29:25):
Anthony Davis is and I like Anthony Davis when he's healthy.
Scheduled to make like one hundred and seventy million the
next three years. But I understand the Mavericks are actually
exploring a Davis trade already and hoping you get it
done by the trade deadline.

Speaker 3 (01:29:40):
Is your true to that and could they make that happen?

Speaker 16 (01:29:43):
I don't think they're exploring trades right now. I think
it's just been about trying to be patient with his rehab.
You know, he made his return on the Mini's restriction
against the Lakers. He played relatively well and established some
good chemistry. I think what's going to happen is the
Maverick are going to have full clarity. You know, by
the end of December mid January. Is this team climbing

(01:30:06):
out of the hole after they're finally getting whole with
having a Quean Bill health and then that's when they'll
start becoming sellers. I think when you're looking at the
business of basketball and hal NBA teams operate. If they
can't sell winning, they sell hope and what the right
of what the Mavericks right now are trying to sell
us hope that hey, guys are playing hard. Anthony Davis

(01:30:28):
is coming back, you know, he's getting phase back in
the lineup. Maybe some of their guys like Daniel Gafford
and Derrick Lively the second can come back soon. Now
let's see what they're made of. But it is a
long haul. But to answer your question, they're not making
any selling moves right now. But that's because the way
the calendar works is no teams are really negotiating because

(01:30:50):
we're still two months away from the trade deadline.

Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
Speaking of trades, I'm hearing LaMelo Ball amongst some trade
rumors and he might have more than one suit out.

Speaker 16 (01:31:01):
Yeah, I think that that's definitely going to happen. But again,
I don't think that the Shard Hornets are entertaining calls
at this point because there's still a lot of time
before the trade deadline. But I know going into the season,
the Hornets wanted to finally be a team that turns
the corner with Wa Melo Ball being more consistently healthy

(01:31:23):
and this team finally becoming a playoff team. They've been
a team that is very intriguing, but you know, isn't
quite making that leap. You know, they've had a few
planned tournament appearances but doesn't really go anywhere. So it's
really disappointing that even when you look at how great
of a performance that Kamker Nipple has had his rookie

(01:31:45):
season with not just being a great shooter but being
a great all round player, that everyone else hasn't carried
their own weight here. So I think that going to
the trade deadline they will be sellers and Ball be
at the top of the list. But given his talent,
I think the Hornets are going to be expecting a
lot in return.

Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
Yeah, no question, And again I like him when he's available,
but he hasn't always been available talking with Mark Medina
adda magic or Fox Sports Radio NBA guru or a
writer also a writer for essentially sports. All Right, I'm
invoking this subject tonight because another thirty days have gone by.

Speaker 3 (01:32:24):
We have November thirties upon.

Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
Us in the December first, so the extension for the
WNBA CBA is about to expire. Have they made any
progress on those talks.

Speaker 16 (01:32:37):
Yeah, I think that they haven't made substantial progress, but
I think by the time the steadline happens, they agree
to a deal. You know, as much as I'm not
following the ins and outs as I have and with
the MBA, we've had this discussion that even though there's
queer disagreements with the players union and ownership on how

(01:32:58):
they divide the pie, given the recent growth in the league,
both parties are very well aware of the attention economy
and the ramifications if they don't seize on the momentum
of ensuring there's no work stoppage. So I don't know
when they're going to agree to a deal, but they're
going to agree to a deal well before there's any
concern that it can sacrifice, you know, it can leave

(01:33:21):
next season vulnerable as far as scheduling goes.

Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
Marcus Early, we left out that you wanted to bring
to the table tonight.

Speaker 16 (01:33:32):
You know what I think, Yeah, I will say that
Kevon Looney, you know, Warriors Prize role player, he got
a very good video tribute when the New Orleans Pelicans
played the Warriors today, So that was very notable and
I know that that was something that was very emotional
for Kavan Luis. Look, he's only a role player here,

(01:33:53):
but to a man, the Warriors really credit him for
how great of a glue guy he was to compliment
all those star players. And he's in rough sledding right
now with the Pelicans, but you know, he's been someone
that's trying to inject some veteran leadership on the team
and be kind of a model example for Zion Williamson.

(01:34:13):
Right like, Kevon Looney entered the NBA having a lot
of injury problems and then he became known as a
guy that can play you know, allwards of eighty two
games these past few seasons. So talking to him earlier
in the year, he was saying, you know, it's about
keeping your routine consistent. And while he did stress that
he's been impressed with Zion Williamson's work behind the scenes.

(01:34:36):
He did stress that it's one thing to show it
one day, but you have to be very consistent every
single day. But you know what, beyond that, you basically
have the whole league cover. That's why this weekly segment
is so enjoyable with you.

Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
Well, I'm glad you brought.

Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
Up Kevon Looney because he's always been one of my favorites.
He got a full minute standing ovation. He was a
first rounder ten years ago. Remember Golden State just won
a championship in twenty twenty two. He played all eighty
two games that season, and I think he was a
key cog in that championship season. But he played the
game the right way and was a fan favorite. Speaking

(01:35:13):
of fan favorites, this we'll wrap it up on this one.
What in the hell happened to John Moran?

Speaker 3 (01:35:19):
Three years ago? They were talking about him being the
face of the league. What to take it, He's going
to be working at a cookie factory to.

Speaker 16 (01:35:29):
Be well, he won't be the face of the league.

Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
Yeah, what what happened? Really? What in the world happened
to this guy?

Speaker 16 (01:35:38):
Yeah? Well, I've been able to stay healthy, so that's
point number one, but point number two, when he's been
on the court, he hasn't been able to adjust to
what the new coaching staff wants. And you know what,
as much as in today's NBA a lot of times
they cater to the star players, if you're not consistently productive,
you're no longer catered to. So I do wonder it's

(01:36:01):
gonna be tough because he embodies the Grizzlies skin of
the Memphis community. They really love him for, you know,
being a franchise guy that's really embraced the city. But
when you're looking at his maturity issues, you know, with
the off the court stuff, with the gun, his episodes
of Instagram Live, and his poor attitude this season, it's

(01:36:22):
going to be a really tough decision. It's disappointing because
I know, talking to people in the Grizzlies organization after
his mistakes, when he had the lengthy suspension for his
off the court behavior, they would say, you know what,
he's in more controit. His work habits are great. He's
a great teammate, but he's really he's really not doing

(01:36:42):
himself a disservice by being a distracted with the team.
With the way he's conducted himself this year.

Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
Well, even on the floor, the last sixty three pointers
he's attempted, he's missed fifty of them.

Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
Yeah, those are real numbers.

Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
I always got a cafe injury. Now he's not playing,
but sixty three pointers made, ten and no folks were
not talking about Brownie James. Good night, Mark.

Speaker 3 (01:37:07):
I always appreciate you. You got the last word.

Speaker 16 (01:37:09):
Anything else, Well, I was gonna say, there's a reason
why when he was talking trash with Klay Thompson last
week that Klay just called him out and said, you know,
he has a lot to say. He has a lot
to say all the time, especially for a guy who
rarely takes accountability.

Speaker 3 (01:37:26):
Hey, good stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
We'll see if there's any major news between now and
next week, but this segment always pops.

Speaker 3 (01:37:32):
Mark, enjoy your week ahead.

Speaker 16 (01:37:34):
Likewise, se you appreciate you, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:37:36):

Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
But coming up at a second I will share with
you a little tidbit about what Al Davis, the late
great owner of the Raiders, had to say about his
experience with Lane Kiffin. I'm Bernie Frattle or Kenny Line
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it
locked You listened to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox

Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
All right back at the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio.
Take up to three am Pacific six am Eastern. About
three or four minutes we'll get to the Fantasy Files.
But a little reflection on Lane Kiffin, who, by the
time he was thirty one had already had stops at
Fresno State in Colorado State, had a cub had a

(01:39:11):
Coaly controlled position with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and then even
spent some time with Pete Carroll at USC. But then
al Davis hired him at thirty one as the head
coach of the Raiders in January will seven.

Speaker 3 (01:39:24):
It didn't take long for those two to go at
it like I Cantina.

Speaker 2 (01:39:28):
Turner facts facts. He was four and twelve his first year,
Lane Kiffin. Al Davis asked him to resign after year one.
Kiffin refused, and I don't know what happened after that,
except I do know this. The second season got off
to even worse start. He went one to three. Kiffend
did his first four games, and by mid September al

(01:39:50):
Davis knew let everybody know he was unhappy with Kiffin,
and on September thirtieth, he fired. Al Davis fired Lane
Kiffin over the phone. He's tenure with the Raiders five
and fifteen with Oakland, over twenty games as a head.

Speaker 3 (01:40:05):
Coach, and he took over. You know, that's that opened
the door for Tom Cable.

Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
But what was incredibly noteworthy and infamous al Davis had
a one hour press conference after he fired Lane Kiffin,
and he completely went scorched to earth on Lane Kiffin.
This is just a sample snippet as to what al
Davis said at that press conference.

Speaker 3 (01:40:31):
And these are quotes.

Speaker 13 (01:40:33):
Quote.

Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
I reached a point where I felt the whole staff
was fractionalized. The best thing to do was get this
thing to get all right, let me try that again
in English. The best thing to do to get this
thing back was to make a change. Al Davis said
as he opened up, it hurts because quote, I picked
the guy. I picked the wrong guy. At one point,

(01:40:57):
al Davis read a letter that he said to his
former coach that detailed mistakes kiff had made on and
off the field. Al Davis went on to say he
finally fired Kiffen for cause because quote, he disgraced the organization,
setting a variety of issues, including conflicts over personnel moves.

(01:41:20):
Alright Lives to the media all quoting dal Davis, he said, quote,
I don't think it was one thing. It was a
cumulative thing. I think the pattern just disturbed me. It
went to arbitration, and an arbitrator upheld Kiffin's firing for cause,
which meant al Davis did not have to pay Lane
Kiffin the remainder of his salary. He'd signed a three year,

(01:41:42):
six million dollars deal in two thousand and seven. Afterward
he left Tennessee in the dust. He returned to college.
Why did Kiffin lead Tennessee? Well, I'm going to get
to that in a minute, and now that ended in
a complete dumpster fire. First, hey, we are eight hours
and thirty minutes away from NFL Sunday.

Speaker 3 (01:42:06):
It's time for the Fantasy Files.

Speaker 4 (01:42:10):
Fantasy Files with Brandon Deutsch, your go to fantasy football segment.

Speaker 11 (01:42:16):
Are you got one?

Speaker 23 (01:42:16):
God? Welcome to Fantasy Files. I'm Brandon Deutsch and we
have to win our matchups this week. This is a
pivotal week. We got playoffs in a lot of leagues
next week, and this is the time to really lock
in and play the guys that you have the most
confidence in. I know in one league, I sat Roma
Doonze for the Friday night game or Friday the day game.

(01:42:38):
Actually I might as well just call it the Black
Friday game because it was not at night. But Roma
Dunze only had a few fantasy points. I figured against
a really stout Eagles defense, he would not be great,
and I slotted in Khalil Shakir, so that's gonna be
our first lineup lock of the week. Shakier is coming
off of back to back very good games led the
Bills and target share last week, and he's going to

(01:42:59):
against the Pitts defense in ranks bottom five in the
entire NFL guys, So this is a guy that should
get at least fifteen fantasy point flour. I think Josh
Allen he always has big games after he has a
stinker of the previous week.

Speaker 1 (01:43:13):
He's still in the MVP race.

Speaker 23 (01:43:15):
Say what you want. I know Matt Stafford, Drake May,
and Dak Prescott are probably at the top of that
list because Christian McCaffrey, Jonathan Taylor, and jamieer Gibbs are
not included in JSN because they're not quarterbacks. It's a
quarterback award. But Josh Allen could still very much win
this award if he goes on and has a huge
few games coming up. I would also start Lad mccaukey
against the Raiders. The Raiders have one of the worst

(01:43:35):
teams in the league. I know a lot of people
would say, oh, their defense is better than their offense. Well,
you can't compare atrociousness with atrociousness. They suck all around
right now. The players are not bought in. They're playing
for the first overall pick. I don't think they want
to win this game.

Speaker 14 (01:43:50):
I don't.

Speaker 23 (01:43:50):
I think that Lad mccauckey's still the wide receiver one
on the Chargers and going to have a big game
coming off of their bye week. I would sit Michael
Pittman Junior against Houston. Love this matchup. Houston has been
the best defense in all football all season long, but
especially the last five weeks. They haven't allowed more than
one hundred and fifty passing yards per game. So I
just don't trust any of the pass catchers for the

(01:44:11):
Colts right now. I would also sit Ricky Piersall against
Cleveland and pains me because I thought he would have
a big week. He gets the Panther's team that plays
a lot of zone. Party typically kills zone. But when
they played the game, they saw Ayuk's not playing party.

Speaker 3 (01:44:23):
Can't beat man coverage.

Speaker 23 (01:44:24):
Let's play man coverage the entire game. Piersall was open,
he got open, he separated, and Piersall was late with
those three hitches and through two picks when he was
targeting Pearsall. So we can't trust him against the Cleveland
Browns defense that only gives up one hundred and seventy
point two passing yards per game, which is second in
the NFL behind Houston. So I'm sitting Ricky Pearsall. I'm
also sitting Juwan Jennings in this game. If the Niners

(01:44:45):
want to win this game, they got to control the clock.
They get a run with Christian McCaffrey, with Brian Robinson Junior.
I do like George Kittle still because he will get
a lot of checkdowns. I think he gets eight or
nine catches. I really really really like in this game
Quinn Shawn Jenkins. I know the forty nine ers Brenden
Butter is their run defense versus their pass defense ninth
against the run. I just don't trust a young quarterback
and Shure Sanders in this game to really make things happen,

(01:45:08):
even against the twenty sixth ranked pass defense in all
of football, especially after last week Wednesday finally got some
turnovers against Bryce Young, who right now is a better
quarterback than Shador Sanders. Shaudor is only played one game
and it was against the Raiders, So was it really
a football game?

Speaker 20 (01:45:21):
Right?

Speaker 23 (01:45:22):
Like, we got to ask ourselves out. When you play
the Raiders right now, that is like playing a CFL
team that is not an NFL team right as we speak,
it's like playing the Titans, right I can't judge somebody
off of playing the Titans or Raiders. This is where
we can really judge stuor Sanders. I think they'll lean
on quinch On Judkins. I think they he will have
a pretty big game, get a touchdown, probably sixteen seventeen,
eighteen carries. I think this will be a closer game

(01:45:43):
than people think. I would start Stefan Diggs against the
New York Giants. I think Drake may is a huge game.
And now I'm not that he played bad last week.
He had fifteen Fantasy points. I do expect the Giants
to be exploited, especially that pass defense is horrible, just
a horrible pass defense. Stefan should have a big game,
and of course Hunter Henry, if you're starting a tight
end need a streamer, I would start him too. He

(01:46:04):
should have a pretty big game. I'd sit Quinn Johnson
against the Raiders. Now I know the Raiders suck, but
also Quinn and Johnson hasn't done anything in the weeks.

Speaker 3 (01:46:12):
He did legit Cardio.

Speaker 23 (01:46:13):
Before the bye week zero fantasy points, and Lad McConkey,
Ronde gatst And, and Keenan Allen are ahead of him
on the depth chart. So to me, I don't see
an avenue where Quinn and Johnson has a big game
unless he gets a touchdown, which I just don't think
is likely this week. I would also make sure to
start Troy Franklin against watching Troy Franklin has almost double
the targets of any other wide receiver pass catcher in

(01:46:34):
the team combined in the last four games for the
Denver Broncos. Bo Nix and Troy Franklin played together at Oregon.
They have a rapport that you just can't teach. He's
been the one on this team, not Courtland Sutton. I'm
not saying sid Courland Sutton, but I think you have
to start Troy Franklin at this part. At this point
in the season, he's averaging twelve Fantasy points. The last
few games. He's gotten eight plus tarks, every single one
of them. Make sure to start Travis etn against the

(01:46:55):
Tennessee Titans twenty fifth ranked run defense. Eten should have
a huge game really like he did last week with
those two touchdowns. I mean, he's been great all year
fifteen fantasy point average. I would sit Aaron Jones against
the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle as a top five run defense.
Aaron Jones has been bad all year, and I would
actually start even if he's on a little bit of
a snapcount Bucky your being against Arizona. He's just too explosive,

(01:47:16):
too much of a playmaker to keep on your bench.
You have to kind of put him in, especially if
for trying to get into the playoffs. And I would
sit Tony Pollard because I think it's the opposite of upside.
He's a lock it in eight to nine fantasy points.
You don't need that. You don't need that. The difference
is typically fifteen. You want your flex or your RB
two to get fourteen or fifteen fantasy points. So that's
where I would lean Tony Pollard there. I'd start jailing

(01:47:36):
warning against Buffalo great pass defense. Buffalo does not have
a good run defense this year, And I would sit
Formondre Stevenson against the New York Giants. Just because Trevion
is the guy out snapped mondre by a ton last week.
Let me know what you guys think. Make sure to
check me out at BSD takes on x, Brandon s
Deutsch on TikTok, and Bran Deutsch on YouTube. Back to
the Bernie Fradershow let's win our matchups?

Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
Baby, Yeah, it is the last one before the playoffs start.
I know my son's got a big weekend. If he
wins this weekend, he will he will finish in first
place and ta get up by adding into the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:48:10):
So this big stuff, but also big stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:48:14):
Let's go back to the Lane Kiffen debacle timeline of controversy.

Speaker 3 (01:48:20):
So up next.

Speaker 2 (01:48:21):
After the Raiders, Kiffen went to Tennessee, where he lasted
all of thirteen games one season, thirteen games. He was
seven and six, but he accepted the head coaching position
at USC quality it his dream job. Timing again the
worst less than a month before National signing Day. It

(01:48:44):
cost significant fan outrage. There are all kinds of student protests,
mattresses being set on fire, and chance of.

Speaker 3 (01:48:53):
Fu Kiffin. You could hear it all around the city.
So what was up with that?

Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
Why did Lane kiffen leave Tennessee, and by the way,
he replaced longtime Tennessee coach Philip Follmer. Foemer had been
in Knoxville for a couple of decades, won a national
title in nineteen ninety eight, and he was beloved. Kiffin

(01:49:21):
was a debacle debacle, and he described why did they
leave Tennessee. He described US as his dream job. Why well,
he'd been there six years a decade earlier as an
assistant coach under Pete Carroll. He considered Pete Carroll his mentor,
and replacing his longtime mentor he believed was too good

(01:49:43):
of an opportunity to pass up. He said Coote, I
felt like I loved the time at Kent Tennessee, but
I love the people there. But I just can't watch
USC for years on TV and say, man, I had
that job and said no, And whether I was right
or wrong, that's just how I So Lane Kiffin does
what Lane Kiffin wants next up on the on the

(01:50:07):
on the Debacle Tree. Yes, we'll go to Alabama and yes,
or check that, check that we're not done with the USC.

Speaker 14 (01:50:16):
He hasn't.

Speaker 3 (01:50:17):
We hasn't finished at SC. That ended like a twenty
car pile up as well.

Speaker 2 (01:50:24):
I'm Bernie fraddlewor Kemedy line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports
Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (01:50:27):
Keep it locked.

Speaker 2 (01:50:28):
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, back at the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports
Radio Company. Line from the Foxworths Radio Studios here and
Las Vegas will take you up to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern, top of the hour, two am Pacific,
five am Eastern. I'm gonna try to connect with our
Columbus guy, Don Gessick, our Ohio State insider. He was

(01:50:52):
with us last year during the ride and looked sixteen
games later, sixteen wins in a row later after losing
to Michigan.

Speaker 3 (01:50:59):
Look at those guys.

Speaker 2 (01:51:00):
Now, we'll get you, get you some perspective from inside
the Avery Tower.

Speaker 3 (01:51:04):
At Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (01:51:06):
Back on the Lane Kiffin timeline of debacle controversy as
it were. So, we told you what happened when he
got to the Raiders and left the Raiders. Told you
what happened when he left Tennessee and went to his
dream job, USA USC. Excuse me, Yeah, it didn't take long. Well,

(01:51:29):
he's five games into the twenty thirteen season, Lane Kiffin
was famously fired by then athletic director Pat Hayden at
Lax Airport after the team returned from getting blown out
by Arizona State, given up forty three points. The event
is referred to as quote the tarmac firing, and that
may some people say that may have been the lowest

(01:51:51):
point of Lane Kiffin's career because even though that got
blown out and the team was three and two, Kiffin
was very surprised that he got fired. He tried to
make the case to Pat Hayden to keep him. It
didn't happen, USC and the leadership had already made their decision.

(01:52:17):
Kiffin ends up getting fired and who took over an
interim coach at Orgeron and in the remainder of the season,
as he started out three and two, he was actually
six and two. A footnote from that this seems like
a pittance compared to the biots these days, but according

(01:52:38):
to the Los Angeles Times, USC paid Lane Kiffen two
point seven million dollars in twenty fourteen, after a year
after he was fired. And the irony is is that
Pat Hayden, the sitting athletic director, made two point nine million.

Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
The next year the same year.

Speaker 2 (01:52:58):
Excuse me, well, after the Raiders are in the books,
the Tennessee volunteers are in the books, the USC Trojans
are in the books. Could it be he even runs
a file a Nick Saban and Alabama was doing well,
so he become Kiffin kind of rehabilitated his career much
the same way Steve Sarkisky did.

Speaker 3 (01:53:18):
Saban does that.

Speaker 2 (01:53:21):
Kiffen joins Alabama as Saban's offensive coordinator. But again, once again,
it was another tenure that it did very abruptly. A
week before the twenty seventeen National championship game, Saban dismissed Kiffin,

(01:53:41):
reportedly due to concerns that Kiffin was distracted by his
new head coaching job that he'd already accepted at FAU.
So again, not there very long two years and in
about two you know, eighty percent of the next season,
and interestingly enough, they had success the Okay Obama won
the national title in twenty fifteen, and Kiffin presided over

(01:54:06):
multiple Alabama quarterbacks, including Jalen Hurts. But again, Kiffin's exit
from Alabama during the twenty six the twenty sixteen season
once again was not smooth see because in early December
south from Ayer, he accepted the head coaching job at
Florida Atlantic while continuing to want to lead Alabama's offense

(01:54:29):
as they prepared to face Washington in the semi finals
that year in the Peach Bowl. Now Alabama ended up
beating Washington twenty four to seven, and it was Kiffin's
plan to split time between both jobs, but just about
a week before the National championship game against Clemson later

(01:54:51):
that month, Lane Kiffin simply announced he would leave the
team to focus on Florida Atlantic, and he was quoted
as saying, coach and I we I had some time
together at the office, game planning in Atlanta, and then
again this morning, just bouncing some things around. I thought
doing both jobs would be easier. But as I looked
at it, I rewatched the game a couple times and thought,

(01:55:12):
I don't think we played great.

Speaker 3 (01:55:14):
Now those things happened. We still did some good things.

Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
We ran the ball well, turn it over, call blah
blah blah blah blah, just just gibberish, okay, But at
the end of the day, Kiffin left. Kiffin left, okay,
And on January second, twenty seventeen, I think he was
director of Communications. Josh Maxon at Alabama issued the following

(01:55:41):
press release, and this is worth hearing.

Speaker 3 (01:55:43):
Okay, I won't do the whole thing, but enough of it.

Speaker 2 (01:55:47):
Dateline January second, twenty seventeen, TUSCA loose Alabama. University of
Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced Monday that incoming offensive
coordinator Steve Sarkisian will assume his duties in advance of
the upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship Game. We appreciate
all that Land has done for our football program over

(01:56:07):
the last three years. We sat down following the Washington
game and talked about the time demands of managing both jobs.
We recognize it's best for our players and for Lane,
we allow him to turn his full attention to his
new head coaching role at FIU. This wasn't an easy decision,

(01:56:28):
and we appreciate the way Laying handle it in terms
of doing what is best for our team. At the
end of the day, both of us wanted our players
in the best position to be successful. Obviously, we are
in a unique situation here.

Speaker 3 (01:56:39):
We have our next.

Speaker 2 (01:56:40):
Offensive coordator already on staff. We have full confidence that
sark will step in right away and make make this
a smooth transition after going through these Okay, same, it's
it's mischie goas so long, and the short of it
is Nick Saban because of the professional guy he is
handle it very professionally and without a lot of the

(01:57:04):
craziness that you're hearing right now. But you can't tell
me that that ended well. You can't tell me that
that was a comfortable situation. They're getting ready to play
for the National championship. I know there's no easy way
to do these things, But how does a guy like
you know, Kaylin de Borr manage to leave Washington fairly well,
seamlessly and end up with you know, Alabama.

Speaker 3 (01:57:28):
I think it can be done.

Speaker 2 (01:57:29):
Not every one of these departures ends up with an
f U kiffen like he heard at Tennessee, or a
pretty damning firing on the tarmac at USC by Pat Hayden,
a very respective guy, former quarterback on very good USC
teams and quarterback of the Rams who helped get a
team to the Super Bowl in nineteen eighty, or the

(01:57:52):
situation with Al Davis. You would think that Lann Kiffin's career,
I mean, it started out so promising and by the way,
he's a son Monti Kiffin, a very respected coordinator in
the National Football League, the first ever a million dollar coordinator.
He's no longer with us. I'm told Monte Kiffin in
his career had fifteen jobs. This is no Lane Kiffin's

(01:58:13):
ninth job. And what's going to happen to Old Miss
I really don't know. He may win there.

Speaker 3 (01:58:20):
I just think it's a He's.

Speaker 2 (01:58:22):
Going to be walking in to the biggest hot firestorm
in the history of college football. It's tough down there, man,
it's really tough. Saban left after winning a national championship.
Les Miles was fired after winning a national championship. At
Orgeron was fired after winning a national championship.

Speaker 3 (01:58:43):
They didn't even wait for.

Speaker 2 (01:58:47):
You know, the current coach, don't even mean you mentioned
his name, the Southern accent, Brian Kelly, didn't wait for
his fourth year to finish.

Speaker 3 (01:58:57):
So he's walking into a firestorm. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
Coming up, we take you out to Ohio State with
Columbus Don Let's talk about what it looked like from
the Buckeyes perspective. Keep it Locks, The Bernie Frattle Show,
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:59:09):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:59:12):
It's right you heard the man. The Bernie Fraddle Show
keeps rolling right along.

Speaker 2 (01:59:17):
My name is Bernie Frattle, coming to your line from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. And after a terrific football
game on Saturday, we're gonna go back to our guy
in Columbus who's been a staple Ohio State football joined
us last year.

Speaker 3 (01:59:31):
Most of his predictions have come true.

Speaker 2 (01:59:34):
Welcome in Don Gessick, our Ohio insider from Columbus. Don,
Good morning, Thanks for getting up early as usual.

Speaker 7 (01:59:41):
Good morning to you as well, Bernie, thanks again.

Speaker 3 (01:59:43):
For having I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:59:47):
Obviously, Ohio State completely outmanned, outclassed, out coached Michigan on Saturday.
I want to kind of come in from left field.
Before the game. Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports said, I
know a nervous man when I see him, Ryan Davis,
Bryan Day looks nervous. Actually, I thought you were and

(02:00:07):
more look nervous. What was your what were your thoughts
if you could remember what they were right before kickoff?

Speaker 7 (02:00:15):
Well, I got to say that Portnoy has become one
of the most hated men in Columbus. Out there. He
certainly has been a real Michigan booster, and so, you
know whatever, we believe that they handled this in a
very professional manner, very adult. Frankly, there's more of a

(02:00:35):
sense of relief than there is exultation about winning the game.
So it's again, they handled this in a very professional manner.
They move on, and so there there was obviously a
lot of nervousness before the game. You could tell that,
you know, it's a big deal here in Columbus when

(02:00:55):
they play Michigan. It's all the other games combined, aren't
as it don't cause as much anxiety as the Michigan
Michigan as well.

Speaker 2 (02:01:04):
I certainly know that I covered fourteen of those while
I was a resident of Michigan and then.

Speaker 3 (02:01:09):
With WTT and CCBs radio.

Speaker 2 (02:01:12):
Here's what I don't get, because it's become beyond silly,
the credit that Ryan Day just doesn't get. You know,
don heading into the season, Ohio State lost eight players
of the NFL. You lost your entire defensive line, both coordinators.
And since losing the Michigan day sixteen to zero, he's

(02:01:33):
beaten Tennessee, who was ranked seventh, Oregon at one point,
who was first Texas first, Penn State third, Notre Dame fifth,
won a national championship and run the table this year.
What kind of respect does Ryan Day get inside the
average tower at Columbus.

Speaker 7 (02:01:48):
Well, you know, you and I and all of our
listeners heard what Saban said about people in Columbus needing
some help relatives to the anxiety that's created.

Speaker 14 (02:01:58):
For the Michigan game.

Speaker 7 (02:02:00):
It's, uh, you know, let's say it's the biggest game
of the year, and it's again, it's more of a
sense of relief and getting that in his review mirror,
and now they can move on and not listen to
any more Michigan rumors about how he hasn't won and
so forth. So it's it's again. It's it's more of
a relief and now we can move on and play
Indiana next week and uh and hopefully play again for

(02:02:22):
the back to back time.

Speaker 3 (02:02:25):
Uh don uh.

Speaker 2 (02:02:27):
I joked in my opening monologue that perhaps Michigan's best
defensive stand was when they formed a wall around the
block m at midfield, as if Ohio State was going
to plant the flag the same way Michigan did last
year in Columbus. I thought Ryan Day handled it really well.
And and so I think Seril mor did as well.
But what were your thoughts on that? Did Michigan look.

Speaker 3 (02:02:49):
Desperate to you?

Speaker 2 (02:02:49):
I mean, what's the what's the takeaway there on Columbus
as to the way Michigan conducted themselves, not just losing
the game, just sort of the way they conducted themselves
with all the extracurriculars and what happened at the end
of the game surrounding the block am and not.

Speaker 3 (02:03:02):
Leaving the field.

Speaker 7 (02:03:04):
You know, we've heard a couple of different rumors about
that too. Not only did they circle the block am,
but you know we heard as you know, there's only
one portal that goes out, that's right, that's right, And
you know we heard that Ohio State was jumping up
in the stands and having a good time and celebrating
it's over. Then they weren't going to the portal. So
therefore Michigan couldn't go in until Ohio State did, so

(02:03:25):
they were just kind of lulling around waiting for Ohio
State to go in the portal as well. So that's
another rouver that we heard.

Speaker 2 (02:03:31):
Oh okay, then I then okay, then then I'm glad
you're correcting. That because look, my mom went University of Michigan.
I covered that team for a lot of years. I
just felt to handle themselves in a bit of an
undignified fashion Saturday. But if I'm wrong, this is why
we have you on. So is it possible. We know
that there are It's the same way at Notre Dame.

(02:03:51):
It's it's clunky, but these old stadiums, you have one
portal that both teams have to share coming on the
field and coming off the field. Was that basically Michigan
wanted to wait till Ohio State left the field first.

Speaker 7 (02:04:03):
Well that's that's one of the rumors that we heard.
And again, you know, Ohigo State was having a good
time jumping up in the stands and so forth that
they were going to go out there, and they made
it pretty clear to his players before the game, during
the game, and even immediately after the game. Look, I
don't want this plant to planting of a flag thing.
We're not doing that. We want to stand heads and shoulders.
We want to Ohio State to be a program that
doesn't do that kind of silliness and so forth. So

(02:04:27):
that's entirely possible, But you know it's I'm sure, you know,
I'm sure that things came off. The whole day was
great for day, so to speak.

Speaker 2 (02:04:37):
So we're talking with Don Gessick, our Columbus insider Ohio State.
Don most likely and by the way, I think Ohio
State will be and as the odds on favorite to
win the National championship again, they still.

Speaker 3 (02:04:49):
Got to do it. But I got to say, we'll
probably have you on again in January right before if
they get to the National Championship game.

Speaker 2 (02:04:55):
However this this shakes out, but one of the things
I want to focus on the Tails quarterbacks. They're both
first year starters, they're both freshmen, have three years left
of eligibility. We'll see where that goes.

Speaker 15 (02:05:07):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:05:07):
I happen to like Bryce under what I think he
conducts himself well, but he has not nearly progressed to
what we thought in terms of the passing game, and
they don't seem to let him do a hell of
a lot. They're not getting their twelve million dollars worth
that I can see. To this point, What is the
honest viewpoint of Bryce Underwood in Columbus.

Speaker 7 (02:05:28):
You know, the difference we believe is Brian Hartline, the
offensive coordinator for o High State's he's as good an
offensive coordinator in college as you're gonna find. He's going
to get tons of offers in the offseason for head
coaching position. And he brought saying in slowly in the
Texas game and then let him throw a few more
passes in the next game. In the game after that,

(02:05:50):
he moved him up in an offense that had wide
receivers like Kate and Smith, and certainly Michigan didn't have
those types of wide receivers. So the offensive situation in
the mindset for Michigan was more of a run oriented offense,
as you're well aware, whereas Ohio State is swinging it
and singing it and Jackson has turned out to be

(02:06:11):
a great running back for them to offset that passing offense.
So you know, Underwood, you know, maybe Underwood would have
moved along and matured a little bit different if he'd
been in Ohio State's offense. But again, Ohio State has
an offensive coordinator that's second to none in college.

Speaker 2 (02:06:28):
Talking with Don gessigar Ohio State in Saturday, you said
something last year about mid season, uh, and I'll never
forget it.

Speaker 3 (02:06:37):
You said.

Speaker 2 (02:06:37):
One of the teams in Ohio State has very much
uh that that's really drawn the.

Speaker 3 (02:06:43):
Attention of Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (02:06:44):
Again, this goes back to this goes back to probably
Week five or six last year were the Indiana Hoosiers.

Speaker 3 (02:06:54):
So the Buckeyes have the Hoosiers this Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:06:57):
In the Big Ten Championship game. What are your thoughts
going into the game. Do you believe this will be
Ohio State's toughest challenge? And on a scale of one
to ten, how how surprised would you be if, well,
you know, Indiana were to pull the upset.

Speaker 7 (02:07:14):
You know, it's going to be a fun game. If
you're a fan and you have no skin in the game,
it's going to be a fun game to watch. Both
teams will be winging it and zinging it. You'll see
some scoring there. You know, it's an artificial turf, it's indoors,
you won't have the elements as a factor. It's going
to be fun. And you know, I'm sure that irregardless

(02:07:34):
of who wins that game, you're probably going to be
looking at ones and two seeds and so forth. So
is it possible Indiana CoA beat?

Speaker 14 (02:07:43):
I'm sure sure.

Speaker 7 (02:07:44):
I mean they're playing them at home.

Speaker 3 (02:07:46):
So well, it's good.

Speaker 2 (02:07:47):
Yeah, it's going to be in Indianapolis, Yes, and inside
of dome, perfect conditions, as you say, yeah, look at
these things can happen, right, Just a Sile State team
looks so buttoned up. One of the things I haven't
even talked about is a defense in what Matt Patricia
has brought to the fold. They were giving up seven
points per game all year. They gave up nine to

(02:08:08):
Michigan on Sunday. But I got to tell you, it
feels like Matt Patricia is dialing up defenses and schemes
and personnel groupings that are completely confusing college quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (02:08:21):
What's your game planner? What do you expect him to
do against Indiana?

Speaker 7 (02:08:25):
You know he's great at adjusting at halftime. You saw
yesterday that Michigan had the ball twice in the first
five minutes in the red zone and got a total
of six points out of it. And anybody that has
sen Ohio State play knew that Michigan had better score
some points, some real points, some touchdowns in those first
couple of drives, and we only got six points.

Speaker 18 (02:08:46):
That's bad news.

Speaker 7 (02:08:47):
And Patricia's great. I mean, he's been at every level
he's been a Super Bowl winner, so he can adjust
on the fly, and he certainly know Indiana. I'm sure
we'll have some tricks for him, and they'll have some
offensive SCHEMESOSSI believe that Ohio State hasn't seen this year,
But Patricia will adjust and adapt to so forth. And
he loves it here Into High State loves it here.

Speaker 2 (02:09:08):
So I want to go back to Brian Hartline, and
I would say this, You're right, he's probably gonna get
offers one of the names that's come up as Penn State.
Uh do you think Heartline potentially ends up at Penn
State last year?

Speaker 7 (02:09:25):
You know, it's interesting that Penn State hasn't named a coach.
I mean, you've heard some sketchy rumors as to who
their coach will be. But it's interesting how nothing really
has happened there and you haven't had any real deep
seated rumors other than maybe Hardline. So you know, it's
entirely possible that he would take that job. You know,

(02:09:46):
it's Uh, it's it's tough to turn that turn down
that type of money that he's going to be offered,
So it's yeah, it's possible.

Speaker 2 (02:09:54):
I want to go back to Julian saying, you duly
credit Brian Hartline for his development, as saying, but this
kid seems pretty special with his poise, his intelligence. And
I played high school football in California. The next time
I hear a high school kid in California can't handle
cold weather, I'm going to take a hostage.

Speaker 3 (02:10:13):
Look what this kid has done with his poise. It's
not just his arm and his accuracy.

Speaker 2 (02:10:19):
What a find for Ohio State and what was what
were Ohio State's thoughts and projecting the kind of success
he might be able to have this year, irrespective of
the fact that anywhere they're they were going to develop him.

Speaker 7 (02:10:32):
You know, it's interesting because early in the spring there
was competition, a competition for the starting spot as far
as being the QB. And even Smith jumped in and
talked about how sayans ball comes off his hand in
a special way, that he loved the guy. And when
you've got Smith, the Date and the wide receivers talking

(02:10:53):
about how special this quarterback is and how the ball
comes off his hands. He's a very level headed kid.
You talk to it in interviews, are just out and
about and so forth. He's a very mature kid. He's
a very intelligent young man. So he's certainly going to
be sitting there in New York in a few weeks.

Speaker 3 (02:11:11):
Yeah, do you think do you think he could win
the Heisman?

Speaker 2 (02:11:13):
I mean, they're undefeated, his numbers are crazy, he's completing
about eighty percent of his passes.

Speaker 7 (02:11:20):
Well, he you know, he had three more touchdowns again yesterday,
and you know, I had that one interception early in
the game, which I would attribute to nerves, but three
more touchdowns. He's still got this wide receivers. I mean,
he's going to be sitting there and he certainly is
going to be among the top two or three selections
for the Heisman and so forth. So you know, if
he wins it, great, If he doesn't, you know, he's

(02:11:41):
got another year next year that he absolutely will be back,
and he absolutely will have Smith back as a wide receiver,
so you know, and he's got another recruit coming in
that's a five star wide receiver recruit, so he's going
to be loaded again next year too. So yeah, he's
got a chance.

Speaker 2 (02:11:55):
Last question, don so, both Indiana and Ohio State will
advance to the playoffs regardless of the outcome next Saturday,
and it's possible the two could face each other again
in the playoffs. But outside of Indiana, who's a legitimate concern?
Who else makes you just a little bit edgy?

Speaker 3 (02:12:14):
Is it Oregon? Is it Texas A and M? Is
it Alabama? Who's on the radar for Ohio State?

Speaker 7 (02:12:20):
You know, all of them would be of concern, I
would think, and Day has done a great job, a
very professional job of keeping these kids focused, keeping them
ready for games and so forth. So Oregon could be
a challenge, you know, A and M had a bad game,
arguably could be called a bad game. Alabama, any of
those teams could, you know, could challenge. But it's you know,

(02:12:41):
as long as Ohio State plays their game, as long
as they put on you know, even as urban Meyer
was talking about yesterday before the game, you know, if
Ohio State puts up twenty four points, it's going to
be tough for anybody to meet them. With Patricia's defense.

Speaker 2 (02:12:55):
My god, they're giving up seven points a game, you know,
and I mean I don't care who you planning to
sustain that for four months is unbelievable. Don great stuff.
As always, Let's plan on getting you back in January.
Either way, we're gonna have a story either Ohio State's
going to be the champ again or someone's gonna have

(02:13:16):
knocked off the champ, and that'll be your story in
and of itself. So appreciate all your input there coming
from Columbus.

Speaker 7 (02:13:24):
Bernie. Thanks again. I always appreciate your time and you're
talking to me.

Speaker 3 (02:13:28):
Thank you all right, thanks a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:13:32):

Your podcasts, and you'll find tonight's full show posted right
after we get off the year.

Speaker 3 (02:14:05):
You know.

Speaker 2 (02:14:06):
Earlier in the show, we had our good friend Amal Shaw,
our NFL insider, join us, and he invoked the name
JaMarcus Russell. JaMarcus Russell is infamous as people have labeled
him maybe the worst bust in history, and interestingly enough,

(02:14:27):
according to Lane Kiff, and he begged Al Davis to
draft Calvin Johnson in two thousand and seven, but Al
drafted JaMarcus Russell. And you know what happened next, Well,
there's a quarterback currently playing in the National Football League.
And well, if we're being honest and we're being fair,

(02:14:48):
this particular gentleman, well he might be comparing favorably with
JaMarcus Russell.

Speaker 3 (02:14:55):
What am I saying? Well, JaMarcus Russell might be f
the hook. We'll see.

Speaker 2 (02:15:00):
I'm Bernie fraddlework come to your line from Las Vegas,

Speaker 2 (02:15:19):
All right back on the Bernie Fraddle Show Fox Sports Radio.
By the way, one final thing on Ryan Day in
case you missed it. Saturday, Ryan Day coached his ninety
second game as Ohio State's head coach.

Speaker 3 (02:15:36):
Now Urban Meyer also.

Speaker 2 (02:15:39):
Coached ninety two games at Ohio State. He's pretty highly
regarded there and won a national title. Urban Meyer in
those ninety two games won eighty three. He was eighty
three and nine. Well, guess what Ryan Day is eighty
two and ten won one less game than urban Meyer.

(02:16:01):
And yeah, there's been some up and down moments, but
for the most part, to not give this guy his flowers.
It's just a little city silly. Maybe you have a
different agenda, but people are entitled their opinion. By the way, again,
I'll remind everybody if you miss any of tonight's show,
you'll want to catch the podcast. Just search Fox Sports
Radio wherever you get your podcasts. Right after the show,

(02:16:22):
Tonight's podcast will be posted. Be sure to follow the
podcast rated five stars. You can even provide a review. Again,
just search Fox Sports Radio ever get your podcasts, and
you'll find tonight's full show posted right after we get
off the air. All right, JaMarcus Russell's names come up

(02:16:43):
a couple of times. Tonight, my guy, I'm all shaw,
he's entertaining guy brought the name up, and I brought
it up again because apparently in two thousand and seven,
that's the second of the last year I did the
Lion's post game show pre and post I remember we
drafted the line. I didn't the Lion's draft to Calvin
Johnson that year, but apparently Lane Kiffin wanted Calvin Johnson,

(02:17:06):
but Al Davis drafted JaMarcus Russell, which fortunately, unfortunately he'd
become kind of a Punchline is one of the biggest
busts of all time.

Speaker 3 (02:17:16):
But is he the guy?

Speaker 2 (02:17:18):
Got no beef with JJ McCarthy. He seems like a
solid individual and his career it started slow and now
it's fading. I mean, missed the first year completely with
an injury. He's been injured again this year, but he's
been incredibly inconsistent. Well, he's basically had six starts six

(02:17:39):
career games. In his first six career games, JJ McCarthy's
thrown for nine hundred and twenty nine yards, six touchdowns,
ten interceptions, had a completion rate of fifty four percent
fifty four point one to be exactly, be exact, and
a passer rating of fifty seven point nine. All right,

(02:18:02):
Remember the JaMarcus Russell guy we talked about. Well, in
his first six games, he actually passed for one hundred
and twenty two yards more than JJ McCarthy one hundred
and fifty one versus nine twenty nine, throwing for about
the same number of touchdowns five McCarthy s six, but

(02:18:24):
McCarthy had ten interceptions and JaMarcus Russell only had three,
two for one thousand and fifty one five tds, three interceptions.
JaMarcus Russell's completion rate nothing to write home about, fifty
four point five percent JJ McCarthy's fifty four point one percent,
but the passer rating JaMarcus Russell seventy six point nine

(02:18:48):
JJ McCarthy fifty seven point nine. So we're doing quarterback
comparisons all over the map tonight, and as we wrap
up the show, we're actually going to have another quarterback comparison,
and that's going to be well Shador Sanders versus Dylan Gabriel.

(02:19:11):
Now what's interesting is in Sudore is going to get
a second start, who's the better quarterback? You already know my.

Speaker 3 (02:19:20):
Opinion, But if we're being honest, here's really the situation.
I think.

Speaker 2 (02:19:28):
Rookie, you know, they're both rookies, should or seen as
the more creative talent, better off script, while Dylan Gabriel's
viewed more experienced, safe system oriented player, and I expect
Sanders to likely be the starter for the remainder of
the year. And in a minute, I'm gonna give I'll

(02:19:52):
tell you what I'm gonna give the numbers. Now, remember Gabriel,
they both won one game, but give started seven games
and Shador has only played two. Or actually Gabriel's been
an eight. I think he started six. And I'm gonna
give you the numbers because you might be a little surprised.

(02:20:12):
All right, I would say Shador Sanders made the most
of his opportunities last week. He's got the yit factor,
he's got a flair for the dramatic, he's de seed.
The team played. He seemed to play with real good
energy around him. But again, how much can you really
take away? Because come on, it was with all due respect,
it was against the Raiders. We'll see what Shador does

(02:20:35):
Sunday later today at home against the forty nine ers.
And again, the play of the shifted everything was when
he rolled or was right. I saw the receiver streaking downfield.
The other rookie threw the ball up and it was
a good play. But what slays me is when he
they didn't det up due a lot. They kept taking
him out on the ten yard line. Why would you

(02:20:56):
do that, and then he throws a five yard pass
behind the line of scrimmage. He got run sixty six
yards and that adds to his pass per a tamp total,
which was really kind of skewed. Okay, so one game
does not a season to make. Let's see what she
Door Sanders does from here. And he said some things
before the game and after the game that don't appear

(02:21:16):
to be confidence. They appear to be arrogance. But look,
on balance, I think Schodor Sanders has handed himself pretty well.
He didn't bitch him own about being drafted late. He
went to work obviously, and now he listened. He's got
a chance. But I'm going to compare there's a season
statistics comparison and give a little bit more of a

(02:21:36):
scouting report and analysis comparing both of them coming up.
But first, hey, we're one hundred and ninety three days
away from World Cup Soccer. It's that time again, time
for CHRISP. Perfett's World of Soccer.

Speaker 4 (02:21:50):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, international drum. It's all
here in this report from the World of Soccer.

Speaker 24 (02:22:10):
So as we wait here for the Major League Soccer
MLS Cup final coming up here on Saturday, December the sixth.
There is something that took that earlier in the month,
took news from the MLS Cup playoffs away from it
that really spoke to me, and that was the fact
that the MLS Board of Governors earlier in November voted

(02:22:30):
to change the league's schedule to a full format. This
basically means that MLS would fall in line with other
leagues around the world, like the Premier League and Bundesliga
and everyone who plays in Europe. So right now, you
know MLS begins right now in spring. Now it would

(02:22:52):
begin in mid July. It would take a winter break
around mid December, which is probably a great idea because
you know, we've got teams in the North and sometimes
it's hard to play games up there, especially when you
don't have the mild winters of something like a Europe.
But then it would restart in the third week of February,

(02:23:13):
notably avoiding Super Bowl week. And that I can't help
but notice here before we really get into the deeper implications,
is at the very least in a North American sports landscape,
it does mean that MLS stops spending its crunch time
at the end of the season and its playoff format
in the MLS Cup competing against college football and the NFL.

(02:23:36):
MLS Cup playoffs have been largely irrelevant because it's going
on on Saturdays and Sundays where you're watching American football.
Did you see the end for the race for the
supporter Shield. No, a lot of people did not, because
you're competing with football. It starts out good for MLS
in the summertime when all your competition really is is baseball,

(02:23:57):
but then it gets a little janky after that, and
it doesn't really bring in a lot of other watchers
from other markets because again it's such counterprogramming too other
leagues around the world because of how they play in
this schedule. Now, the bigger ramification of this for MLS
itself is that it will get to be able to

(02:24:19):
partake in the European transfer market, those windows that open
up in UEFA and other leagues around the world, thus
probably being able to get talent at better times of
the year and also being able to sell talent to
Europe and bringing in some cash that you might need
for other deals down the line, or just to make
yourself more appealing as far as being part of this

(02:24:42):
ecosystem having that exchange with clubs over in England and Germany.
Those two nations in particular, along with Italy, do feature
quite a few Americans playing at different level. Leeds has
always been a big provider of American talent.

Speaker 5 (02:24:58):
You see them in Italy. Christian pulasitch right now playing
in Italy.

Speaker 24 (02:25:02):
Germany has been the home for several Americans as well,
so this all kind of works out a little bit better,
especially as MLS wants to compete for more European talent,
having brought in Lionel Messi and now paying a massive
salary to some hung Men which is only second to
Leonel Messi's deal right now in MLS. The bigger change

(02:25:23):
too that's coming is we right now have East West
divisions in MLS, which aligns itself with sports like NBA
and the NHL. That's going to be gone and once
again we are taking a much more soccer specific approach.
There is one table one to thirty. That's pretty massive
considering most European tables are only about twenty teams or so,

(02:25:46):
but that's kind of the size of the league you have,
and you don't really partner with USL and you're not
really open right now to promotion relegation, but that single
table will feature five sixteen regional divisions, with teams playing
each of their division rivals twice home and away and
every other team in the league once, so it will
kind of make a lot more sense of a schedule.

Speaker 5 (02:26:09):
This is going to be a little tricky for MLS
to pull off.

Speaker 24 (02:26:12):
It will It's not going to happen until twenty twenty seven,
at which point there will be a shortened season at
the beginning of that year and then start the full
season under the new format in July of twenty twenty seven.
Now is sheoed around twenty twenty seven or twenty twenty eight?
When was when the USL, the United Soccer League kind

(02:26:33):
of the second tier in this country, but that also
includes the third, fourth, and fifth tier because they have
a whole pyramid was set to implement promotion and relegation.
No clue if USL will follow MLS into the fall format,
but either way, USL has always been a lot more
grassroots for these kind of things, whereas MLS is now
at this point thirty teams. It's really hard to justify

(02:26:56):
further expansion and a lot of money came to MLS
four those expansion fees, a lot of money. Now the
next big thing for them it's not just competing trying
to avoid competing against football in this country. It is
taking advantage of that global transfer market. That money will
be huge. I think there's some very interesting implications for that.

(02:27:17):
I don't know if it all means it's great for
MLS as far as bringing in talent. I could see
them be much more about selling to try to take
advantage of some hot upcoming American soccer players to send
them over to Europe. But we have to see and
ultimately it's just opened up a lot more opportunities for
MLS to be part of the global game and better

(02:27:39):
aligning itself by better aligning its calendar.

Speaker 5 (02:27:42):
I like the move a lot injured to see where
MLS will go from here.

Speaker 24 (02:27:46):
We'll talk next time about the MLS Cup final and
where Europe stands next time on the World of Soccer.

Speaker 2 (02:27:53):
All right, one hundred and ninety three days until World
Cup is here. It's going to come fast and furious.
When this whole segments started back in consh she gets
just twenty twenty two and the World Cup dates were
later in the year. That year, the USA played England
on Black Friday. Coming up, we wrap up the show.

(02:28:16):
Actually one more bit of bad news involving LSU, and
then we'll take a quick look. Hey, while we're comparing quarterbacks,
JJ McCarthy to Jmarcus Russell and Julian sayin to Bryce Underwood,
how about one more Shoudors Sanders and Dylan Gabriel. I'm
Bernie Frattle. We are coming to you live from the

(02:28:37):
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked you
listen to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
I will wrap it up on the Bernie Fraddle Show.
I want to thank my producers, Mark and Brianna for
other hard work keeping us in on the air, managing
the clock, the callers, everything.

Speaker 3 (02:28:55):
Really appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (02:28:59):
Before I get to the comparison between Shudur and Dylan Gabriel,
more not so good news for LSU. If you recall,
LSU fired Brian Kelly October twenty sixth, one day after
they lost at home to Texas A and M. Kelly

(02:29:20):
then sued LSU. Two weeks later after his buyout, Kelly
set in a lawsuit that LSU had told him he'd
been fired from his job. He'd later filed the lawsuit
alleging that the school was trying to find cause for
the firing to avoid paying Brian Kelly the money he

(02:29:41):
was owed on his contract.

Speaker 3 (02:29:44):
Well, Kelly won that one. He secured the final.

Speaker 2 (02:29:48):
Victory against LSU or with LSU, or depending on how
you look at it. LSU informed Brian Kelly in writing
three days ago that he is, in fact has been
fired without costs. The letter was sent to Kelly by
LSU president Wayne rows At states LSU will pay out
Kelly's contract in full. They made it clear in the

(02:30:11):
letter that Kelly has a contractual obligation, though to seek
a new job. If you follow any of this, I
mean this basically means LSU owes Kelly his full fifty
four million dollar buyout. Apparently, LSU had offered Brian Kelly
two lump sum payments to settle his contract. First, they

(02:30:32):
offered him twenty five million with no offset language, and
then offered him thirty million to be paid out in
two installments. Kelly declined those offers, so now it looks
like he's going to receive nine million annually between now
and twenty thirty one. But if Brian Kelly finds a
new job, whatever he earns would be offset against the
nine million per year he's owned. So whatever you want

(02:30:55):
to call it, a game of Shenanigans, Brian Kelly won.
I guess LSU's not happy about the way any of
this ended. Kelly, by the way, when thirty four and
fourteen and four seasons at LSU and he was five
and three this season, you know, will Lane Kiffin have
the success that they wanted to have assuming he goes

(02:31:17):
there again, it's early Sunday. Anything can happen with this guy.
But assuming Lane Kiffin goes to LSU, well, Nick Saban
won a championship his fourth year, Less Miles won a
championship his fourth year and then was fired. And at
Origin I won a championship and his fourth year and

(02:31:39):
then was fired. Kelly didn't make it through his fourth year.
We'll see what happens with Lane Kiffen. All right, So
Sunday later on to day, we're just a few hours
away from Schudoor Sanders making his second start as a
National League National Football League quarterback with the Cleveland Browns.

(02:32:00):
When you compare, well, I'll tell you. Let's just for
the hell of it, let's compare the numbers. Now again,
Sanders has only played two games. He is credited with
two hundred and fifty six passing yards, but one of
them travel three yards in the year behind the line
of scrimmage, or maybe five yards in a year. And
it was a hell of a run by the player.
As the Raiders stood by like a like they look

(02:32:22):
like it was a bullfight, and they were ola letting
the guy run to the end zone. It was a
hell of a run though, sixty six yards. So really,
you know he gets credit for those two hundred and
fifty six to sixty six, Well, you get it.

Speaker 3 (02:32:35):
For the records.

Speaker 2 (02:32:36):
Shoot or is throwing one touchdown passes, two interceptions. His
completion percentage is forty one percent. His QB rating is
fifty two point five. Now, Gabriel's had six games. He's
passed for a niner and thirty seven yards. He's throwing
for seven touchdown passes, two interceptions. He's completing fifty nine
percent of his passes, and his QB rating is about

(02:32:56):
eighty one.

Speaker 3 (02:32:58):
What does that mean? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:32:59):
Let's compare and apples after Shoodoor Sanders has seven games
under his belt as well.

Speaker 3 (02:33:05):
We shall see.

Speaker 2 (02:33:06):
As I said earlier, I think shud Or Sanders made
the most of his opportunity.

Speaker 3 (02:33:12):
He has the yit factor.

Speaker 2 (02:33:14):
The energy the Browns played around him was admirable, and
I think he's got a flare for the dramatic.

Speaker 3 (02:33:19):
I am nowhere there yet convinced he's a major league quarterback.
It's going to be a while. Can he prove me wrong?

Speaker 8 (02:33:24):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (02:33:25):
Sure he can't.

Speaker 2 (02:33:26):
But now, based on what I've seen, that's an objective viewpoint,
not a fanboy viewpoint, not a subjective viewpoint. Am I
rooting for shoot Or to fail? What the hell would
I do that for? How do I benefit from that?
As I've always I've mentioned under Dick shapp a root
for the story. What would really be the story? Hell,
Cleveland goes on a winning streak, wins five of the

(02:33:46):
next game, you know, the next five games, that would
be a story. Shood Or wins the job out of
camp next year and leads, that would be a story,
not washing out like most fifth round quarterbacks do.

Speaker 3 (02:33:58):
So let's see what happens. But if you want to
compare the two look, Schnor Sanders he's more of an artist. Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:34:05):
Does he make plays outside the offensive structure? Does he
make offscript you know, playmaking? Does he involve himself with that?

Speaker 3 (02:34:12):
Yes? There are questions though about his pocket movement and
arm strength.

Speaker 2 (02:34:19):
That's a fact. These are scouts saying it. Not me,
Dylan Gabriel is not an artist. He's more of a scientist.
He plays within the offensive structure, within the offensive framework.
He had a hell of a much more impressive resume
in college at two big schools Oklahoma and Oregon. Dean
Sanders and Shoodoor Sanders were part of a major rebuild

(02:34:39):
in Colorado.

Speaker 3 (02:34:39):
But they stay. We're thirteen to twelve. Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:34:42):
But Gabriel is also known for his quick decisions. He's
got a very high completion rate. He set an FBS
record for career starts. He's got tons of experience. Although
the critics point out he has, you know, an average
depth of target shorter, and you know that could inflate stats,

(02:35:03):
just the way Shadors was inflated. So what's the bottom line.
Gabriel basically has the edge and experience and consistency. He's
better within a defiance system. I think he's more polished.
I think he's every bit the passer, if not better.
But there are folks who believe Sanders has the higher
ceiling and potentially more long term potential as an NFL starter.

(02:35:24):
Now let's see him do it on the field. Maybe
he will again, that would be the story. By the way,
not for nothing, somewhat flew under the radar because we
had so much craziness the Ohio State Michigan game and
all that was involved there, and of course the situation
evolving Lane Kiffen, which had a way of kind of
hijacking the news cycle and still not done. You wait, Sunday,

(02:35:46):
it's going to be. It's going to lead everything because
just to the dynamic. But Tuesday they will announce the
second to last I guess they call it the penultimate Award.
I'm not forbearing with that all of a sudden. Everybody
uses now the last two or three years in terms
of the college football playoff and if they've been pretty

(02:36:06):
accurate on these things, and I don't think anybody can
argue that Ohio State won Indiana two, Georgia should be three,
Texas Tech should be four. That's the way they see it.
They're projecting it and if that's the case, then all
four of those teams would have first round bys. Now,
for what it's worth, all four teams are at first

(02:36:29):
round bys last year lost. Now one of them was
Boise State. Nothing against Boise State, but Penn State kind
of put a whooping on them. That would mean projectively,
it looks like if the season were at end today, Tulane,
who's the American chap would be sort of the at
large group of five entrant. They'd be a twelve seed
and they would have to visit Oregon. Oregon wouldn't get

(02:36:51):
a first round by Virginia, Who's let's say they're the
ACC champ. They're going to play Duke next week. They
may not get in, I don't know. But if they're
the ACC champ, the committee doesn't let him in and
you win the ACC, what are we doing here?

Speaker 3 (02:37:05):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (02:37:06):
Now, if Duke wins, it's a five lost team. You
got to mess on your hands. But I thought this
was supposed to be championship based. Either way, just for
the hell of it, work would be let's say it's Virginia,
they would visit number six Texas A and m Alabama
checks in at number ten. They'd have to go to
Old Miss. Yeah, Old Miss is getting it. And even
if flat Kiffin leaves, that ought to be a story

(02:37:27):
in and of itself. Alabama versus Old Miss and then
number nine Notre Dame at number eight Oklahoma where it
goes for there is anybody's guests. Assuming Oregon wins, they
would face off against Texas Tech Texas M A and
M would be the winner most likely.

Speaker 3 (02:37:48):
Check that out. They would not have a bye, but
most likely they would.

Speaker 2 (02:37:51):
Be the winner of their game and they would face
Georgia in the second round, and the Alabama Old Miss
winner would face number two Indiana. That'd be worth the
price of admission, and then Notre Dame in Oklahoma would
face number one Ohio State. So I am liking the
twelve team playoff. I hope again the games on the
field matter. That means whoever wins the SEC championship game.

(02:38:12):
Grinn and Barrett, this is what she asked for. It's
still better than the stupid made for TV Invitational tournament.
And that's about all I got to say on that.
It's going to do it for the Bernie Frattle Show.
And yes, of course we'll be back on this chair.
