Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well that's right, you heard the man that time of week.
My name it's Bertie Faday. We are coming a line
from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas.
Absolute Jam packs show tonight, Sports Field Saturday will take
you up to three am Pacific, six am Eastern. And
I am told that Saturday, September thirteenth was National Positive

(00:28):
Thinking Day. So not positive the Terrence Crawford camp after
his impressive victory over Saul Canelo Alvarez, making him I
believe the first ever boxhered old Belts Championship Belts in
three way classes. Congratulations to Terrence Crawford. I am positive

(00:55):
at Crawford and his camp will sleep like a baby
tonight after they're done blowing up the town for a while. Meanwhile,
the Notre Dame fighting Irish, I'm positive they'll sleep like
a baby tonight as well. In their nation. Well, you know,
like a baby where you wake up every two hours

(01:16):
crying with a load in your shorts. That's how they're
gonna sleep. Notre Dame's not lost three in a row.
If you've been scoring at home, I know it was
to Ohio State in Miami and Texas A and M.
But that's not supposed to happen. Texas A and M
strolled into South Bend Saturday, and these are two teams
that have they've built their reputations in recent years. Hard
nosed teams win games with dominant defense a punishing rushing attack.

(01:41):
Last year, that's what the Irish did on Opening Night
in Kyle Station, winning twenty three to thirteen. That was
out the windows. Saturday, both teams combined for eighty one points.
But again, you've heard me say it a thousand times.
You can script everything in sports. But the ending Notre
Dame botches an extra point try in the fourth quarter

(02:04):
after taking the lead with about three minutes to go.
That allowed Texas A and M to drive the field
and on the final play of the game they throw
a touchdown past me eleven yard line, they make the
extra point. Notre Dame now has two losses and it
wasn't even November fifteenth. Yet that's a scenario for missing
the college football playoff because they're not going to get

(02:26):
that many more chances to beat top flight teams in
bolster their resume. They're not in the conference. They do
get Purdue next week. So there's that. How about LSU
and Brian Kelly, known typically for their well prolific offenses
over the years, not so much, but they're three to zero.

(02:49):
Saturday was a master class at home. They beat Florida
twenty to ten. They picked off DJ Lagway not one,
not two, not three, not four, not seven, lebron five times,
five times. Kelly admitted that the game plan was to
confuse mister Lagway, and I would say, I don't know

(03:10):
if he was confused, but he threw five picks. What's interesting, though, is,
you know they say winning cures all hills. That offense
is you know, what's the fuss Meyer about Nussmeyer. I'm
missing something here. It hasn't shown up yet to the
way we were told it would on the Lester three
and oh might be underwhelming day for Gerett Ninchmeyer in

(03:33):
the offense, but Kelly seems content at the moment to say, hey,
we're a defensive team. Now, okay, you are three and oh.
By the way, along those same lines, all the respect
to DJ Lagway, all right, we were told heading into
next year the way too soon draft or whatever, the
actually two years from now, possibly Arch Manning will get

(03:56):
to him later. DJ Lagway, maybe we don't want of
them will be the top pick while I get it.
Lagway had some great moments his freshman season. He made
Florida very trendy pick to go on and run for
the SEC title three games into the year. Uh h
h Lagway. The entire Gators offense that are billing nip here.
They couldn't score in a women's prison with a fist

(04:16):
full of fifties. Yeah, they say a running game is
a quarterback's best friend. Well, Lagway, you're on your own,
my friend. Florida doesn't have a running game. On to
Cincinnati or something like that. Georgia meanwhile, they actually did
find an offense on Saturday, and they're gonna need it.

(04:37):
The SEC is loaded. You saw it, We saw Tennessee
when every bit of that game except on the scoreboard.
A dramatic forty four to forty one win for Georgia
and overtime. Kirby Smart admitted that Tennessee deserve to win,
and they did, but give it up to Gunner Stockton
because there's an old saying, can you be great when

(04:59):
the situation? The man's greatness? He he was, He rose
time and time again through for three oh four or
thirty eight yard Rouchie performance, the accounted for three touchdowns.
The key takeaway here is Georgia has a quarterback they
can rely on in the clutch. That's the way I
see it. That's a great sign because the defense and

(05:19):
their defensive showing suggests that the irony lsu had always
had an offense. Their defense let him down. Georgia has
always had a defense. Hell, they're all playing for the
Eagles now. But be that as it may, Georgia got
it done. They did what they needed to do. They
did it with offense. Back to Tennessee. You may recall

(05:41):
last June, I said the big news is at Nico.
A million dollars was enough for him, so he went
to UCLA. I had, hey, lady, check how's UCLA doing
this year. We'll have to get the cracks week. I'll
have to check on that later and see how they're doing.
But I talked about this kid, Joey Aguilar, who I
heard great things about it Appalachian State, and not just

(06:02):
that he put up numbers at Appalachian State, but he's
sort of built to play the position, all right. I
think Tennessee kind of won this one. Aguilar started Saturday
becoming the first SEC quarterback in twenty years to go
fourteen for fourteen in one quarter of play. The dust cleared,

(06:22):
Aguilar had thrown for three hundred and seventy one yards
five touchdowns and by the way, again, Georgia was thought
to have one of the best defensive units. Maybe they
do okay. Not bad for a guy who was their
second choice at Tennessee after Niko build to Ucla due
to an nil dispute. Again, Look, you're never gonna hear

(06:44):
me say this is a great loss. There is no
such thing as a good loss. Looks like a good
kidney Stone. Tennessee didn't get the win, But Tennessee fans,
you can sleep well knowing that Joey Aguilar is your
guy he bawled out in the thriller. And the fact
that it came less than twenty four hours after Nico's
Bruins were barrassed at home thirty five to ten at

(07:06):
sixteen point favorites by a pretty tough, little New Mexico
team that is going to leave a mark Clemson on
the Clemson look. I never really bought the Clemson hype
going into this year. Everybody loved him fair enough, fair enough.

(07:27):
They're one and two now, though, and Clemson is just
not the same as they were five to seven years ago.
Things that used to feel seamless and easy not look
like a struggle. Clemson starts slow. I'm not sure what
it is. They look sluggish, they look like I don't know.
I don't have a cute analogy for that one. Clemson

(07:50):
used to rightfully hold a large part of the conversation
when you were talking about the nation's top team. And again,
before Deshaun Watson had his issues, he was a hell
of a quarterback at Clemson, and Trevor Lawrence as well,
and neither one of them might think have any ability left.

(08:11):
Clemson's lost to Georgia Tech dropped him to one and
four over the last five games versus Power Conference competition,
and give it up to Georgia Tech. I love Haines King.
I like the coach, Brent Tee. The dude is the
real deal. They say death and taxes are the guarantees
things in life. Well there's another one. Brent Key and
their Georgia Tech. They always take down the top ranked

(08:33):
a SEC opponent. They added Clemson to their latest you know,
notch on their belt. And here's what's interesting in Brent
Key's tenure at Georgia Tech, They've been an underdog twenty
two times. Twelve of those times they won out right.
Keep an eye on Georgia Tech and keep an eye

(08:54):
in Miami. I think Miami has a firm grip on
the entire southeast in the United States, maybe the nation,
certainly South Florida. They took the Bulls to the woodshed,
the South Florida Bulls, the aforementioned two and oh South
Florida Bulls, the hell of a team, but they met
their match Saturday and lost by thirty seven points. Now

(09:15):
the Gators, they turned their attention to, you know, winning
the ACC. I don't think it's going to be Clemson.
I don't know Georgia Tech. They're going to be a
tough out. But I got Miami with Carson Beck. That
is a transfer that it's been a huge success. It's
worked out incredibly well. And they added a defensive coordinator

(09:38):
I'd never heard of, by the name of Corey Heatherman,
and that might be even more important because they got
a tremendous defensive line. Finally, I know that there have
been people lying in wait to piss all over Arch
Manning if he got off to a slow start, and
he has, and they keep talking about this wincing. I
don't know if they're talking about Carson Wentz or whatever

(09:58):
the hell they're talking about. Something's not right, He's not
this bad. Something very long here. I know that high
school recruiting rankings might not be the most reliable way
to evaluate talent. But there's again a big takeaway, and
it happened against Saturday between UTAP and Texas. That game

(10:19):
shouldn't have should have been decided right after you know,
the national anthem ended. But you've got a situation where
Arch Manning lost out to a kid named Malachi Nelson
who's on his third team at UTEP. He threw for
almost one hundred yards more than Manning, and Manning only

(10:42):
threw for one hundred and fourteen yards for the third
straight start. Manning just looked underwhelming when throwing the ball.
At one point he tossed ten consecutive incompletions. I know
he has excellent running ability. He ran for fifty one
yards and two touchdowns. I know what his ceiling is.
I know he didn't ask for this he didn't know.
He never said he was going to be the Heisman

(11:03):
Trophy winner or come out next year and be the
first pick. He doesn't drive a Bentley or the misters
t starter kick. But something is wrong. I expected to
get fixed, but I don't know. And something looks wrong
with Steve Sarkisian too. It's funny, man, You know what
was that I was saying? Past performance is not a
guarantee if future success. Yeah, insert your own Texas Clemson

(11:26):
Notre Dame joke right there by the way. One kid
who is absolutely the goods, you know, Sheeran Moore. When
you come back, make sure you keep the training wheels off.
Bryce Underwood. I am blown away. Everybody knows he's got
a great arm. Everybody knows he's accurate. He's got a
physical attitude and a commander of the position, and a

(11:47):
presence on the field in the huddle, presence becoming of
a guy in his second year in the NFL. He
is the real deal. I really think if they had
turned him loose last week a game's Oklahoma, that would
have been a much closer game. But be that as
it may, We'll see what's well with Michigan. They head
in Nebraska next week, and already that's shaping up to
be a fun first big sort of a tilt road

(12:08):
tilt for Michigan, and they'll have their challenges. They got
to go to USC later in the year. I didn't
mentioned USC. Okay, until you really beat somebody that is worthy.
They got a nice one to two punch at running back,
but we've heard the hype before. Don't tell me, show me, yes,
he looks. They look like they got potential, but don't
tell me show me so look. Next week sort of

(12:31):
kind of is when college football really starts to ramp up,
although we don't get to see Oregon Penn State for
a couple of weeks. But at least now we're past
these games where they pay, you know, our sisters of
uncontrollable flatulence to fly in and face the number one
team and they get a million dollars in the whole
version of the game to go home. I hate that
part about college football. All though. We've had some really

(12:53):
good matchups in the first weeks. But next week it
really starts for real. YouTube be sure to subscribe to

(14:57):
hello to my good friend, doctor Doug. And and Doug,
how are you, buddy?

Speaker 5 (15:01):
Hey Grady, Good to talk to you.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Good, good to talk to you. Good to have you back.
Because it's very opportune. We are only heading into Week
two of the NFL season, and already injuries are in
the headlines, starting with the team in San Francisco forty
nine Ers, who by god were completely snaked bit last year,

(15:25):
and now their quarterback uh Rock Purty has well. He
has a couple of injuries, a turf toe and a
shoulder injury. But let's talk about the turf toe because
they're saying that could keep him out up to a month.
Tell the folks what turf toe means, how debilitating it is,
and why it might take a month to heal.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
So turn to is a it's called a hyper extension injury.
So just meaning at your teacher, like get on your
tip toes. That's what that's. Now you're your big toes extended.
And now with turf toe, all the weights on that
you're on your foot and bad and go comes back
towards your body and what happens is that it tears

(16:04):
the capsule below you know, on the on the bottom,
bottom side of the foot. So it you know, like
there's there's different they have different grades. You know one
is just going to be mild, where it's just it's stretching,
not tour that's like about a week. And then you
know grade two is going to be a partial tear
and that is going to be you know, anywhere from
two to four weeks. And when they said, well, you

(16:24):
know Parsons is not that bad. Party's injury is not
that bad. But then they said, well, you know he
might be down for a couple of weeks and maybe
even longer. We know it's got to be at least
a Grade two, maybe a Grade three. And we also
know that they don't like to give They want to
give out as little information as they can, and also
they want to let the other teams know, well, he
might play, because it's you know, if you have if

(16:45):
he might even though they know he won't play. If
they dropped that he might, they still don't prepare, right,
They've got to prepare for somebody, and that any little
edge they can get and they will use.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Talking to doctor Doug Anderson, NFL Engine, is you fantasy
owners always particularly concerned about this. To stay with the
forty nine ers, Christian caffrey. McCaffrey has a calf injury,
and there were fantasy owners actually concerned whether he might play.
Last week. You' not only played, he had thirty one touches,
but what does that do to the wear and tear

(17:17):
when you're trying to heal a calf injury and what's
the nature of his calf injury.

Speaker 5 (17:22):
Well, so McCaffrey said, you know, after the game, he said,
you know, there was nothing serious. It never was. I
knew I was gonna play. I just wanted to be
smart with it, you know, obviously because of what happened
last year, when you know, when IT'SOK much longer, and
you know, I believe it was both of them last year.
So in generals, thinking, you know, they're worried about the Achilles,
other one knows about you know kV was you know,

(17:44):
had his bad calf, and then all of a sudden, bamn,
they'll go to the Achilles and that's you know, that's
the big worry. But in general, caffs, trains and Achilles
chairs are different. You know, it would be interesting if
you're on the inside. I would have loved to, you know,
pinch uh, you know, Rogers Achilles and see if it
was tender. You can if you just bend pictures, Kelly
attend on each side. You know, one side's you know

(18:05):
a little more attended than the other. And you've got
a little bit of a Kelly tend to nine is
and you'll really know it. You know, in the morning
you get up with your first two sentence us to hurt,
and eventually you know it's going to get me sore
all day and you'll feel a bump and a lump
and things like that. So we don't know how many
of these guys are trying to play through this when
they're not that bad or not. I thought it was

(18:25):
kind of interesting on that, you know, on the turf
toe with doctor Purdey is that you know he did
heart it on UH on artificial turf at the Seahawks stadium,
and I read that actually, you know, when they have
the World Cup soccer, they won't play on the artificial turf,
so Seahawks are going to have to They're going to
put it in regular grass for the World Cup and

(18:47):
then remove the regular grass when the football comes back.
And of course the nfl PA doesn't like that at all.
They want grass, and I don't blame them.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Hold that thought. You got some interesting things in your
notes about the different turfs that various NFL stadiums employ
throughout the league and the differences between the various turfs
and how some actually lend themselves to more injuries versus
and others break that down for us well.

Speaker 5 (19:16):
So, first of all, when you look at the injury data,
it's not uniform, and that's a problem, right there. You know,
the NFL, we you know, will study. You'll say, well,
you know there's about a ten percent higher rate of
injuries on on turf versus grass. Well, the NFLPA is
going to say, you're crazy. It's like more like you know,
twenty five thirty percent higher and to hire both non

(19:38):
contact and contact and especially you know, higher lower extremity
as especially like you're the turf toe. Well they didn't
call it grass, so they call it turf toe. Why
because that turf is further, you know, And then we
want them to be more flexible, we want them to
move faster. So what happens, you know, you get better shoes,
but your shoes are there more flexible on a hurt

(19:58):
on a hard surface of vam there goes there's a
turk though.

Speaker 6 (20:02):
You know.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
Of course, now they have like four or five different
kinds of shoes. I mean they've got firm ground shoes,
they've got soft ground shoes, they've got artificial ground shoes,
they got multi ground shoes. So so and you know,
obviously each brand has little tweaks. All the cleatus are a
little bit different, so that takes time that players have
got to you know, they've got to take some time
to find out which one is going to be best.

(20:23):
And what's interesting is that even the teams that you
know that play, you know on turf, they're they are
generally thinking they still practice on grass. So you're touching
one service that you're going to play on another surface.
And you know, people will say, well, there's only a
two different kinds of turf in the NFL, but when
you you know, maybe so. But you know what, if

(20:44):
you actually do the mappen count, there's like nine different times.
I mean one brand may have four you know, Field
Turf has four different brands, but still the Field Turf Classic,
the Field Turf Core, Field Turf Revolution, all these things
are going to be a little bit different. So and
so again, if you're not accustomed to that, that's going
to also increase the risk of having an issue.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
I like the way you laid out the various types
of shoes. What kind of shoes you suppose those high
tops Johnny United? What kind of were those?

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Yeah, well they were metal cleats and those shoes had
no flexibility. And guess what if you if your shoe
doesn't have any flexibility, you're going to have a much
harder time getting a trip toe. And that's of course
why we didn't see anything called grass toe back in
the day. You know, it wasn't ntil. We were basically
playing on concrete with you know, with a little bit
of plastic on top. And then and then again as

(21:37):
the as the shoes got better and better. Well, a
flexible shoe on a firm surface, Boy, that.

Speaker 7 (21:42):
Sets you up for issues on the flip side.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
These guys, you know what, they got to move. It's
just the NFL, the speed game. And these guys are bigger,
stronger fashion which also caused injuries. Bigger strongers, and they
wear a lot less.

Speaker 7 (21:56):
Padding than they used to go back.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
To look at old NFL films the seventies eighties, so
these guys had much more padding in that also blows
you down.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Oh man, no doubt about it. Look up big the
shoulder pads used to be. And no, they don't even
wear knee pads anymore, doug, No, they I don't see
girdles either.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
No, no, And again, well, what's the the number one
injury in the NFL's knee injury? So there you run
around no knee pads. I mean, I don't know how
you know, Obviously when you plant and twist that gets
your that's going to get your meniskets or your cartage, right.
You know, the knee pad is not going to help that.
But still you're hitting the ground repetitive traumas. I mean,
all that's you know, when that thing your need starts

(22:36):
getting in played that in terms going to you know,
also bound the cacs and make it easier.

Speaker 7 (22:40):
To get hurt.

Speaker 5 (22:41):
But yeah, you know it's really interesting. We knees are
number one and then followed by ankles, and then then
you got upper legs, you know, get henmies and hamies
and quads, followed by like then you then you go
to shoulder and foot and the head injury. So I mean,
I mean, these guys, you know, it's a brutal, brutal game.
I read where they said something like twenty twenty percent

(23:08):
of NHL retirees have authoriots in the mid to late twenties,
compared to five percent of non NFL playing people like
near the rest of us, right and therefouries, like the
people athletic players have authoriots compared to twenty percent that
you know, they didn't play this. You know this this uh,
you know it's a lot of you know, it's a

(23:30):
it's a collision sport, not a contact sport.

Speaker 8 (23:32):
Is a collision sport.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
My good buddy Doug Anderson, Doctor Doug Anderson, prominent working
brea works with Olympic athletes, professional athletes. It's move on
to Michael Parsons. He has what's called an L four
L five facet joint spring in his back, which I
guess is a more common injury, but they were saying
he wasn't anywhere near one hundred percent, but he's managed
to look good his first two games. How debilitating is

(23:56):
an injury or can like tour doll hide it? And
what are his long term aspects for this year and beyond?

Speaker 5 (24:01):
Well, I was kind of surprised when they when they
were making a big thing of a set syndrome, because
I mean, that's basically the kind of thing when you
go to the chiropractor get your back pop right, that's
what that injury is. Now. I guess you know he'd
also held out for he was a little bit deconditioned
on top of that. But you know again it was like,
wait a minute, he's got potensive he should be fine,

(24:22):
and what do you have But thirty plays the first
game with the sack and then got l asked, what
do you have? I mean this guy, you know, so
I think he's fine. I mean I think he got
plenty of treatment. You know, and the medical staff of
these teams has exponentially expanded. I mean used to be
back in the day and there was you know, a
couple of trainers and that's it. I mean they've got

(24:45):
they've got all kinds of trainers and physical therapists. Some
of them have Cairo, some of them have acupunctioners in
and got strength conditioning guys, that got performance guys, they
got the video guys. Everything's getting am I so it is.
You know, it's definitely changed. Where they have. What they
have is massive. And you know, when these guys aren't

(25:05):
they can't play. You know, hey, guess what you're You're
you're going to the facility. You're fine if you don't
show up. But the rest of us, we know, we
have the injury. We go to the therapy. We go
to therapy two three times a week. These details are
getting treated four or five times a day to find
if they if they if they're not there, and they
get everything right, I mean everything under the sun. You know,

(25:28):
money is no object.

Speaker 8 (25:29):
When it comes to these guys.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
And on top of that, they've got amazing genetics and
they're any motive be able to get better because they
know that you know, they're not on the field, but
team has no use for them, and so you know
they're going to push their bodies to the breaking points,
you know, to make sure they can get on that
get on that field.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
That's a perfect segue to the next guy I want
to bring up Xavi. You're worthy of the Chiefs. When
I saw the injury, we could go Friday. I said
to my wife, I said, that's a separated shoulder. You
could see it. Well, he does have one. But they're
talking about in a brace and possibly playing and like
you said, a collision sport. How dangerous is it for
Worthy to do this? How much range of motion and

(26:10):
his catch radius is he going to lose? And how
much is Exavier Worthy? Uh, you know, risking further more
debilitating injury if he gets on the field Monday night.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
Yes, yes, and yes, but you can take it a
step further. It's like you watch a lot of football.
I've watched a lot of football. I mean, come on, man,
I mean, you're doing it your star tak tied end
takes out your star wide receiver. How many times have
we seen that?

Speaker 7 (26:36):
Like, uh never?

Speaker 5 (26:38):
So some of this is just you know, obviously just
horrible bad luck. But I don't think it was as
bad as everybody thought because surgeony is completely ruled out,
So you know, he's dealing with something that you know,
when you will not shoulder moves where it's not supposed
to be. And then even if you know spontancy relocates,
you still stretched the drink capsule and irritated those tendons. Again,

(27:00):
we don't know how bad it is. I'm not surprised,
you know, he's out this week. But again, trying to
you know, trying to play, you know, trying to catch
a ball with a shoulder like that, that's not that's
not going to be fun. Although we also know that
they you know, they will take meds you know that
will reduce the pain to the point where they can't
even feel it, right, I mean, pain is our natural

(27:20):
warning sign that says they don't do this. But you know,
you go and you get on that, you know, you
get that, you get your turn doll shot and all
of a sudden you don't feel a thing, so you
can go out there and guess what you can also get.
You know, you can also dig a hole and damage yourself,
you know. More so it will be interesting to see again,
it's in such a short past season.

Speaker 7 (27:39):
In the perfect world, you'd.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Be able to say, Okay, you know, we'll see you know,
we'll see you in six eight weeks when it when
you're one hundred percent. But as we know already, they've
already played one game. There's probably almost anyone that's had
any time on the field already is no longer one
hundred percent. They've all got bumps and bruises and things
like that. You know the thing they say, we're playing hurt,
Well what not injured? Well those are all injuries are

(28:00):
just wild injuries for you know, they're not in major injuries.
But still that's what they add up.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
When I covered the Lions Matt Stafford's rookie season, he
actually dislocated his shoulder in the third quarter. It's the
Cleveland Browns came back, they popped it in. He came
back and threw a touchdown pass. But he's not running
rocks over the middle, you know, where linebackers are coming
at him with bad intentions. So it's not I mean
not just catching the ball, but you know, absorbing physical
contact as well that that can't be good for the shoulder.

(28:30):
Last last one to go go ahead?

Speaker 5 (28:33):
Oh yeah, no, I go ahead, Yeah no.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
I just kind of wanted to make that distinction, but
all points duly noted. Last one, you absolutely nailed last
year that Aaron Rodgers coming off of his achilles surgery
at age forty would be fine, and noted multiple examples
of players over the years that healed and came back
to not only play the following year, but multiple years.

(28:58):
Rogers now heading in to his forty first year, looked
okay Week one. You expect that to continue or is
he at risk because that achilles has been repaired once?

Speaker 5 (29:10):
I would expect it to continue that. I think he's
got a better line this year. What's playing me last
year was his quarterback rating was the lowest I get
in his career. Right, and yet on the flip side,
like the CBS Sports said, well, he has rided him
as the ninth and best season for a forty plus QB. So,
I mean he had what twenty eight touchdowns and eleven picks.

(29:31):
Eleven picks is high for him, but you know, I
was surprised he's still he is still going to rather
take a sack, you know, than fill a pick. And
of course we saw what he did last week. I
mean it was like, dude, that's Aaron Rodgers from buck
Wings winning MVPs.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
The fantastic stuff. As always, your knowledge based impeccable preparation.
You do great stuff. We'll be getting you on again
as the season goes. We don't risk for it, but
we know that injuries are simply a part of life
in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
Yeh, basically sure, And you know it's funny we thing
back of all the rule changes, how much safer the
game is now, yet the injury rate is not going
down because these guys are so big, so strong, so fast.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
Yeah, the collisions. All right, buddy, Thanks, enjoy the rest
of your weekend. Appreciate it anytime.

Speaker 9 (30:17):
Brady.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
That is doctor Doug Anderson, and you will hear him
on my show throughout the year. Again, right out of
the gate, four key injuries to players on prominent teams.
The Niners have designs on going somewhere this year. So
we're the chiefs and sort of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so
we will see what we will see. For the best
pregame show every weekend, be sure to tune into Fox

you love it. You can't live without it. We are
twenty two minutes away from the midnight hour see from
where I sit here where I live in Las Vegas.
We are in the Pacific time zone, so it will
be midnight literally twelve midnight, and perhaps where you live

(31:21):
as well. We get calls around the country and all
over the world, so it may not be midnight literally
where you live, but it's midnight figuratively, which means you
get the back. Last word. By the way, I've got
three topics which you'll point out, but I've also got
some other ones as well. You know, it's more of
an open mic situation, so you're not married to these
three topics that we pose every week. I'll give you

(31:44):
several suggestions tonight because there's a lot of meat on
the bone. Or if you just want to rant about
something you take the time to call, We're gonna get
you on. So that will be coming up, and in
a just a minute, we're going to set up those
topics and some suggestions for you. Eight seven seven nine
nine six sixty three six nine eight seven seven ninety

(32:05):
nine on Fox. We are now twenty one minutes away
from the midnight hour, So get your fingers warmed up,
be ready to dial in. Hi, Bernie frattewor come to
you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in
Las Vegas. Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie
Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. Or back at the
Bernie Fraddle Show Fox Sports Radio. Come to live from

(32:25):
the Las Vegas studios of Fox Sports Radio. We are
fourteen minutes away from the top of the hour, which
means the midnight hour eight seven seven nine nine six
six three six nine eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
Here's what's on my mind. I want to start with
Adam Silver. He provided a very strange response to the

(32:47):
rising costs of watching NBA games this year. He referred
to the league as quote a very much highlights based sports,
a sports in response to the various concerns surrounding the
new broadcast schedule UH, in which, of course there's UH
multiple modalities in which the NB will be broadcasts this year,

(33:09):
not all of them are free against the NBA coverage
is gonna look different this upcoming season. There's a new
media rights deal of course the esp and NBC, but Amazon.
This means NBA games, a lot of NBA games no
longer are well no NBA games on D and t uh.
But you're gonna have, you know, streaming on Peacock, which
is NBC streaming service, and Amazon Prime, et cetera, et cetera.

(33:33):
And what's interesting is uh. His his response was, well,
you know't just watch the highlights. I'm teraphrasing, of course,
how does that make you feel, as a consumer and
as a fan just curious? I don't want to, you know,
be I don't want to kill an ant with a
sledgehammer here. But it was a very odd, I thought response,
and one of many Adam Silver's has had over the years. Uh,

(33:57):
because again, we're we're in a new world now and
games are not just on a regular TV or cable TV.
They're they're streaming and sometimes you have to pay for them.
And that was Silver's response. So I would would really
like to hear you know what your thoughts are on that.
There will be Thursday games on Prime. Friday games will

(34:19):
be on ABC, ESPN and Prime Plus. Sunday matchups Peacock
will start later in the season, but over the over
the over the over the season, there will be national
TV games on Monday on Peacock and on Thursday on
Prime Video, and Friday on Prime Video and then Tuesday
NBC and Peacock and at Sunday Peacock. So it's not

(34:40):
just turn on your TV anymore. Just a thought. I know,
I'm kind of elongating that second. I'd like to we'll
pine on this. So Aaron Rodgers and Justin Field's swapped teams.
Rogers is now a Steeler, Justin Field is now a Jet.
All right, Well there's he wants a debate about those two.

(35:02):
Who do you think will have the better season which
might lead their team to the playoffs? Would you take
Justin Fields, would you take Aaron Rodgers? I expect this
to be a close call. I listen, I'm taking Rogers
on every day Sunday twice. I like Justin Fields. He's
a consumment professional. He's an absolute class acts. He goes

(35:23):
about his business with a great dignity. He's fourteen and
thirty one. As a starter, he looked good Sunday. He
set his feet, He made a lot of throws right
on target. But if you really look at the film,
people were going gaga about throws that a group of
five starting quarterback should make easily. He threw a touchdown

(35:44):
on a wheel route, dropped it nice to get the
five yard. I had about a twenty five yard pass
and I said, oh my god, we'll look at that.
Come on, is the bar that low? I'll tell you why,
because this would have been a whole different narrative if
on the final possession for the Jets Sunday, instead of

(36:05):
going a mere seven yards in four plays and losing
the game, if he could have engineered and manufactured to
drive down field. But when it mattered most he couldn't
do anything. Now do I see improvement? Yeah? Now the
Jets take on the Bills at home later Sunday afternoon.
I expect him to start owing too. I expect them

(36:26):
to put up a fight. Rogers and Steelers they host
the Seahawks, may maybe two to zero. But I don't
want to lead the witness here. If you like Fields,
better fine, tell me why. If you like Rogers, better
tell me why. Who would you rather have? Aaron Rodgers
or Justin Fields? And one of those circle of life oddities,
they switch teams, and I think there'll be people following them,

(36:47):
just like Deco at UCLA and Joey Aguilar Tennessee. You're
gonna follow those two. They're gonna be, you know, linked
joined at the hip. So Aaron Rodgers or Justin Fields
and again Adam Silver, you can't afford Hey, just watch
the highlights. Okay, guess what starts later Sunday the WNBA playoffs,

(37:09):
And a certain network is absolutely force feeding one commercial
after another, and I get it's their product. And we're
hearing things like you can't get enough of the WNBA playoffs? Here,
come in the playoffs? Are you gonna watch the playoffs?
I want to know you see a gentleman for ESPN
last year, I bought this time, or maybe it was

(37:29):
sooner than that. By the name of David Dennis Junior
said he really wished that Caitlin Clark wasn't playing during
the playoffs. We could see for real how this league
can draw ratings. Well, he's gonna get his wish. We'll
see if he's right. We'll see if he's right. Would
you watch if Caitlin Clark was playing? Are you gonna

(37:50):
watch whether even though she's not playing, or would you
not watch either way? Or do you ever even watch
the NBA? Do you know the WNBA exists? I meant
to say w NBA, so the three topics, But I'm
gonna have some more here for you. And by the way,
consider it like open mic. You got something you want
to ran on, do it? You got something you want
to get off your chest. We had a player I

(38:12):
want to call I want to talk about Seattle Mariners
last week. Fine, we had the legendary hollering what's his name,
hollering Bob or whatever the hell's name he's called him,
just hollering James, thank you. He's just a snore. It
was a fabulous call. All right, whatever, we're not trying
to solve the world's problems, and we're just trying to

(38:32):
have fun. So the bottom line is, you know, it
doesn't necessarily have to be the Rogers Versus Fields topic,
the Adam Silver topic, or are you going to watch
a WNBA playoffs? You might want to weigh in on
Canelo versus Crawford fabulous fight Saturday night in Las Vegas.

(38:53):
Crawford won by unanimous decision. Now holds three belts. You
can weigh in on it. What's the future of boxing
with Dana White not promoting some of these? And guess
who's going to fight Floyd Mayweather next spring? Mike Tyson.
Mike Tyson was in the news this week. He said
Mayweather was talking issue about him and he said, well,

(39:17):
I can't have that. He waited and waited, and he
was just minding his own business, you know, managing his
portfolio and living his life and enjoying and all said Floyd,
whatever comes out of left field, you know we're all
going to watch it. Society has been infatuated with gladiator
sports since the beginning of time. And I know there'll
be plenty of fake hot Ridge. We got plenty of

(39:38):
shows on this network. Nobody have for this, Well, then
don't watch it because plenty of people are and everybody
made fun of Jake, Paul and Tyson last year and
then set records and the money it brought in. Finally,
I don't know what you know Angel Reese. Before she
joined the Chicago Sky they were a playoff team. They're
thirty four games under five hundred or two year tenure.
She's put up some decent personal numbers, but she went

(39:59):
out of town and blaze of glory, throwing her teammates
under the bus, and now not doing her exit interview.
I don't know. You can comment on that. You can
comment on a Tyson and Floyd. You can come on
Canelo Crawford, anything else you want, or Aaron Rodgers versus
Justin Fields. Adam Silver and his comments about the NBA
is used to highlight sport. If you can't afford streaming

(40:21):
and the WNBA playoffs start later today, will you be watching?
Would you be watching if Caitlin Clark is playing? Maybe not?
Maybe you've never heard of the WNBA eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six,
six three sixty nine. Dial them up. It's time for
the Midnight Hour and the Bernie Fraddle Show. Fox Sports radio.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
That's right, you heard the man, the Bernie fraddle Show.
Jess keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie fraddle Wick.
Come to your line from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
You're in Las Vegas. We'll take you up to three
a m. Pacific six am Eastern. We are merely nine
hours and fifty nine minutes away from NFL week too,
the full Sunday slate. But we've got business before that.

(41:07):
We've got a little thing. The callers are lining up,
so we'll get right to it. Aaron Rodgers or Justin Fields,
Adam Silver what are your thoughts about his comments? It's
a highlight league. If you can't afford streaming. And the
WNBA playoffs start later today, are you gonna watch? It's
time for the mid that hour and here we go.
We take you to the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where Jim,

(41:30):
as usual, leads us off. Good evening, Jim, good morning,
Good evening.

Speaker 7 (41:33):
How are you hey?

Speaker 8 (41:35):
What's going on? Bernie on the first one on the too,
Adam Silva, that's not gonna work because I remember the
Celtics when Bird got there and once he started going
good Sports Channel put our local thing. It was pay
to watch the home games, and like everybody did it.
And then after a while I was like, why are
we doing that? And that like staated. So I don't

(41:56):
think that's going to go anywhere, you know, I mean,
why they're trying to squeeze trying to squeeze money out
of fans, and I just don't think that's right. I
don't think that's gonna last. Rogers Rogers Overfields. Hey Fields
is a good kid and everything like that, But I
think Aaron is going for the brass ring on the
merry Goo around this year if they can get there.

(42:18):
I think he's got a legitimate shot, you know, one
more time.

Speaker 2 (42:21):
Yeah, look that look on his face. He looked like
he was, you know, all about his business.

Speaker 10 (42:26):
Go ahead, oh yeah, popping it.

Speaker 8 (42:28):
When he's throwing touchdowns and jumping up and down, we're
like Rayryron, like what's that all. Usually he's acting like
he's in a pew in church. So I think he's
into it. I think he's got I think he's got
a coach and staff, I think and in the persona
of the steal with all the other I think I
think he's got a legitimate shot if they can get there.
And the w NBA, who cares? Without Caitlin, who cares?

(42:50):
No one's gonna watch. No one's not watching.

Speaker 5 (42:52):
Now.

Speaker 8 (42:52):
If you notice, ever since she got injured, it's been declining, declining, declining, declining.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
And uh no, I haven't paid attention to the ratings.
Does the data show that, Jim, if you had a
chance to sample that, and and and do you expect
there to be a marked difference in ratings drop since
Caitlyn Clark's not there versus what was last year?

Speaker 8 (43:14):
Yes, exactly, because it was all about her. I mean,
they hated that, but they didn't it's all about marketing.
They screwed up in their marketing. They knew they had
a diamond in the rough there instead of polishing it
and helping out, because she's going to help out everybody,
every player in that league, she would help and they
just it was all about you know, all that culture

(43:38):
stuff and all that, you know, and and the physicality
in the in the in the blatant uh you know
shots she took.

Speaker 11 (43:47):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (43:47):
And then and then it came out that the rest
were getting stipends from the league office. You know, they
go this is I've never seen anything more corrupt than
anything bad. I mean that usually happens in leagues on
local levels. It should be happening all pro level.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
You know, Jim appreciation candor as always enjoy your sunny man.
Thanks a lot, Steven, Kansas City? Is that next? Welcome in, Steve?

Speaker 9 (44:09):
Hey, Bernie, all right, fight night a big city and
big game day in Kansas City. I kind of wanted
to go with your wild card of Bud Crawford making
a making an assault on Mayweather's record. There he's fighting
all the great fights and and and yes, I will
be purchasing Tyson first Mayweather.

Speaker 5 (44:28):
I can't, I.

Speaker 9 (44:29):
Can't help myself. I think I am definitely not alone.
I think that fight will break records. At see they
arguably the greatest offensive force in boxing versus the greatest
defensive force in money. Mayweather.

Speaker 7 (44:45):
We're all, we're all.

Speaker 9 (44:46):
We all know Mike will go five or six rounds
and give it all he's got, and uh and maybe
he could hit one shot. We're all looking for one
or two punches to from for Mayweather to go down
and ruin his undefeat did record.

Speaker 6 (45:00):
Now we will be an exhibition.

Speaker 9 (45:02):
But I mean I mean, who's who's not gonna buy that?

Speaker 2 (45:06):
There's you know what's interesting is there's a lot of
there's a lot of people out there. I mean, we've
got shows on this network that's just fake outrage. Oh
they're welling and screaming. Who asked for this? Okay, don't
watch it?

Speaker 12 (45:20):
Who cares?

Speaker 2 (45:22):
But but but but again, And you've heard me say
it a thousand times. We are a society infatuated with
gladiator sports, two icons. So you got the floor, Go ahead.

Speaker 9 (45:34):
Oh you're sitting you're you're we're all sitting at home
on a Friday or Saturday after we come back from
dinner or whatever. What are you gonna flip on?

Speaker 5 (45:41):
I mean, you're you're gonna.

Speaker 9 (45:42):
Flip on Mayweather versus I mean.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
What Allen said it best. Nostalgia is a trap, and
there's something nostalgic about this. We don't know what it's
going to look like. It may not live up to
whatever building people want to give it. But aren't you
at least curious?

Speaker 9 (46:00):
Sure, and listen about the Angel Reaves Caitlin Clark thing.
You know, I probably won't be watching the playoffs, but
you know, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna rag on
on Angel Reach because you know, we we celebrate Dennis
Rodman when he was going to wrestle with Hulk Hogan
during the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
I mean, you.

Speaker 9 (46:22):
Need for you know, for these events, you need a
Luke Skywalker versus Darth Vader, and even Darth Vader turned
out to be a good guy in the end, So
they have to have Caitlin versus Angel. I'm sorry, That's
that's how you generate. You have to have Larry Bird
versus Magic Johnson. That's just how these things go. And

(46:44):
and no one sadly, like like the previous Colors said,
I don't think any of anybody's gonna watch without Caitlin fighting,
fighting the forces of whoever against her, you know. I mean,
that's how the storyline goes. What was what was the
other one? Aaron Rodgers? I think I'm on Aaron Roy.
I'll vote for Aaron Rodgers. And listen this Adam Silver thing.

Speaker 5 (47:07):
I pay.

Speaker 9 (47:08):
I pay two hundred bucks to watch all the to
watch all the games, and our teams start getting good
here in Kansas City, and then they shifted to the
gold level. This has got to be illegal. Every time
we I mean I paid to watch all eighty one
Thunder games. They shifted to a different tier, so you
have to pay more. I was not going to pay more.
I'll watch it, I'll watch no more. They shifted the

(47:31):
Royals started playing the Yankees and the Championship, they shifted
it to the gold level. Every single sport you can't
even watch your regular teams unless you pay more than
you're already paying. I mean, it's just that they've got
to maybe that the regulatory you know, aspects of it
are more or are more amenable to it.

Speaker 8 (47:51):
Now.

Speaker 9 (47:51):
We've got to stop this somehow. This is going to
kill sports. This is going to kill the NBA.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
Thanks lost, you know, we were in a free enterprise.
I don't you know, no one likes it. I don't
begrudge him in that sense. And it's an elective thing.
This is just where it's going because people can see
games on multiple platforms and devices now, and I think
it's you know, we're not going back to what we

(48:19):
were were before. So it's just one of those situations
that I just thought Adam Silver's response was a little cavalier.
I'll just watch highlights, and we're a highlight based league.
That's paraphrasing, and maybe that's not fair because it turns
out there are actually more games on network TV this
coming year than there have been in the past, but

(48:40):
not all of them. So there you have it. Let's
go out to Nashville. Let's welcome in, Uncle Bob. Now,
Bob is just your first entree into the Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 13 (48:50):
Yes, sir, good morning, burn, Thanks, welcome in, Welcome, thank you,
good morning. I'm a big Chenni saye. Okay, so nobody
really in the nation cares about what I've got to say.
But I'm probably not the only Tennessee fan that can't
sleep here.

Speaker 2 (49:08):
You yeah, uh, I'm terrible for that kicker.

Speaker 13 (49:11):
Man gotten man. But anyway, I'm seventy three years old
and I haven't missed the game, whether I had season
tickets or on the radio or being there or on television.
I haven't missed the game in fifty years, okay, and
I can't remember when I've been so disappointed.

Speaker 2 (49:34):
You had a two touchdown lead and all you have
to do is make the field goal. I know it's
easier said than done to go ahead. No, you're justified.

Speaker 13 (49:41):
No, well, thank you. That's it. In a nutshell. I mean,
come on, man, So I don't know. Now I look
at the rest of the schedule, and you know, I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (49:50):
Just keep winning games, Bob, because they're going to take
three teams from the SEC, and Tennessee can be one
of them. Well, you got you everything in front of you.
You're just going to have to take care of business.

Speaker 13 (50:02):
Well, I appreciate that. That's very optimistic. And well, Vanderbilt.
I grew up on Vanderbilt football, so I you know
when I was young.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
Hell, they might make it. Man, look at that team.

Speaker 13 (50:14):
That's what I'm saying. Man, that guy's a gamer. He'te something.
I mean, he's fun.

Speaker 2 (50:20):
The quarterback you're talking about, Yes, sir, he's legit. Man.

Speaker 13 (50:24):
Man, he's a real zeal And. They're fun to watch.
So I wished him well, and I hope they make
it the playoffs. I'm not a Vandy hater, but anyway,
I'm sure I'm not the only Tennessee fan that can't leave.
And I listen to I wake up every morning to
put things and I listened to y'all almost every morning

(50:46):
between two and three point thirty or something.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
All right, buddy, appreciate you taking the time to call
and get my best to Condridge, holloway Man Well and Guardina.
My men were the hell have you been?

Speaker 6 (51:01):
Just won?

Speaker 7 (51:02):
Sheell bray own the midnight out, Oh man, just working man.
You know we've got to bring on that bacon burn
of bacon. Man, you gotta be bacon. If you think
either Aaron Rodgers or Justin Fields will be appearing in

(51:28):
a super Bowl near you, and.

Speaker 2 (51:29):
Fair enough, But who would you pick this year to
have the better year?

Speaker 7 (51:32):
Which is sort of the question, Well this year, I mean, Klin,
I think, yeah, I think it's apparent.

Speaker 5 (51:38):
Well, no, I shouldn't say that because it was a it.

Speaker 7 (51:41):
Was a pretty crazy game. I'd have to go with
the Hall of Famer, you know.

Speaker 5 (51:45):
I mean, I think we've seen the ceiling on.

Speaker 7 (51:49):
Justin Fields, which is unfortunately he's a one trick pony man.
My dad's a Paris fan, so I don't. I saw
a lot of Justin Fields in the last few years,
and mostly unimpressive and the two inconsistent, I mean dynamic
on certain plays and they look like a Pop Warner

(52:10):
quoted back on us. So you know, but he's a player.
I mean, he'll get your five win.

Speaker 2 (52:20):
Thoughts on Adam Silver's comments and are you going to
watch the WNBA playoffs?

Speaker 7 (52:25):
Tone deaf, tone deff. I think all these leagues are
missing the boats, Bernie, you and I. I mean, I
know it's obviously a different era, but we grew up
on the you know, Monday.

Speaker 13 (52:38):
Night football or the game of.

Speaker 7 (52:41):
The week era that grew america fan base tremendous, you know,
something like the family could do. And I know we
don't live in that America anymore, so, don't get me wrong.
But at the same time, these basis be the sports
turned into uger knocks based on that formula, and for

(53:03):
them to be going away from it, I don't know, man,
our kids, you know, I got twenty twenty something and
those guys don't care about sports the way we cared
about You think they're gonna care enough to come out
of the pocketbook. Hell, they barely want to buy cars
they want to I mean, they're a weird generation, man,

(53:25):
So I don't know. I think these sports leagues are
they I think they need to get a little bit
more to the basics. And Amen new a billion dollar
N five. You got to give it away sometimes not
always can't make it so exclusive that you're hard to find.

Speaker 2 (53:47):
You know, well, that does become an issue because for
some people, yeah, fair enough on that. Would you watch
the WNBA playoffs?

Speaker 7 (53:55):
Manwel if Caitlyn Clark was playing, I would probably watch
five minutes so real quickly.

Speaker 2 (54:02):
Before I let you run, because you know, I'm sure
you're familiar with who David Dennis Junior is on ESPN,
and he he was a sincere wish I'm paraphrasing that
he wanted to see what the WNBA look like would
look like without kit lenccarke. He was convinced. That was
the impression. I got to want to put words in
his mouth that the Rays would be just as good

(54:22):
without her. Now we'll see what happens. You believe they will.

Speaker 7 (54:26):
Be Hell No, we all know she is the WNBA,
whether they want to realize it with it, whether they
want to face up to it or not. They're trying
to kill that golden goose. Lord knows why. We've seen
the talent level of her come through the league, but
she's different. She's dynamics. She brings in crowd, she brings

(54:48):
in eyeballs and in sports man, that's invaluable. They got
to realize that, but jealousy, man, women are a different
breed man. Women get so ellis of each other, and
I think we're seeing that first.

Speaker 5 (55:03):
And with the WNBA Bernie and towards man.

Speaker 2 (55:07):
We'll always appreciate you, man, And I know you can't
always call in, but we love it when you do.
And so enjoy the rest of your weekend. The midnight

All right. Back of the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
The midnight hour is off and running. We go back
out to the phones. We're joined by Kyle here in
Las Vegas. Welcome in, Kyle.

Speaker 7 (56:02):
How are you tonight, Uncle Bernie?

Speaker 14 (56:05):
First off, PSA, please everybody who went out, you didn't
stay at your own house. You went somewhere.

Speaker 5 (56:11):
Don't drink and drug. If you've already been.

Speaker 14 (56:14):
Drinking, park it somewhere caught somebody, come pick you up.
That that that goes without saying good nice. Now let's
get into the meat and potatoes of it all. First off,
Chicago Sky, we don't care buy injuries. You know I'm
a Chicago sports fan. By we we we will do
good without you, will do better without you. You're nothing

(56:34):
but a headache. You're a young lady who sells that
you're entitled to everything. Uh that you somebody created a
meme of you calling it a knee bound and you
ran with it thinking that it was something good. It
was a joke on you. So no, we don't care.
We'll I'll be watching the w n b A playoffs.

Speaker 5 (56:54):
Nahn.

Speaker 2 (56:56):
We speak truth. I got to you, Carl. You speak
truth that I'm looking for to us talking four weeks,
five weeks down the row when the playoffs are done,
because I want to see I'm gonna keep an open mind.
I want to see what the ratings are, but continue on.

Speaker 14 (57:09):
Yeah, no, you know, I mean roller Derby. You know
that's my biggest.

Speaker 5 (57:15):
Thing for roller Derby. In the place of the w
n B. I'm pretty sure we get a lot more fans,
a lot more excitement, and a lot more revenue, uh
without being revenue loss, and.

Speaker 14 (57:26):
The players can get a percentage of revenue.

Speaker 5 (57:29):
That they want. Uh. You know, we can go on
and on endless heard it with with that one.

Speaker 6 (57:36):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (57:37):
As far as Aaron Rodgers and Justin Field just concerned,
both played mediocre. Neither one really wowed me in the
sense of, hey, this guy is gonna have a you know,
a heck of a season this year. You know, they
both had great run support all given that they had great,

(57:58):
you know, great offensive teams that plan uh first week jitters,
so really really happy to see what what transpires this weekend.

Speaker 7 (58:07):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (58:07):
Speaking of you know quarterbacks McCarthy and uh and and and.

Speaker 5 (58:11):
My guy day with Williams. Yeah, that was that was
fun to watch until it wasn't and then it got
fun again and it was like, can we can we
just take the rains off the guys and.

Speaker 14 (58:22):
Just let them play quarterback and just let.

Speaker 5 (58:25):
Them do the thing. It seemed like McCarthy uh came
out in the third quarter, fourth quarter and finally got
to show his arm strength, his running skills, and you
know the fact that he can actually play the position.
Moving over to College really quick, Uh, to the to
the God from Tennessee.

Speaker 14 (58:42):
Man, you guys, Dodgs a.

Speaker 6 (58:43):
Real bullet with with Nico.

Speaker 5 (58:46):
He looks horrible, horrible. I'm not even gonna take the front.
And I know that to you allude to this to uh,
it's to be down, you know, to U n l
V in a.

Speaker 14 (59:01):
Pretty tight game and then almost came back and won it.
That he's sloppy. He's very sloppy.

Speaker 6 (59:07):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (59:08):
You know, good on U c l A for giving
them the nine million or the seven million that he
was asking for that he was looking for. But I'm sorry, guys,
all are not going nowhere. Let's talk Oregon really quick.
The Ducks are looking phenomenal. They have all the steed positions,
they have all the skill positions down. Their defense looks

(59:30):
like they can do some cleaning up. They absol clean
enough to do. But their defense looks really good. Everything
about College this past three weeks has been phenomenal. NFL,
they have a real competition going on. And lastly, because
I'm not going to take up Noah, but nobody else's town,
Adam Silver, you have more than just highlights and stuff

(59:52):
to worry about.

Speaker 5 (59:53):
You have a whole fraud schemes.

Speaker 2 (59:59):
That's a great story.

Speaker 8 (01:00:01):
There's more tory.

Speaker 14 (01:00:02):
Now you have Jalen Brunson, who might be the next
one that's out it. You might have bigger things with
the scheming and the plotting of the gambling that's been
taking place around the league. But dude, you have more
to worry about than a contract agreement with companies that
are not broadcasting any of these games. Like when you

(01:00:24):
want to watch a Lakers game here in Vegas, you
can't because sometimes they block it out. And they said,
you know, you got the Ballgies game going Bernie.

Speaker 5 (01:00:32):
I love you man, love the show.

Speaker 14 (01:00:34):
I'm trying to get back in touch with the show
more often. Saturdays are just really hard for me now,
But I love you man. Keep up all the success
and all the great work.

Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
Thanks Cale, appreciate you checking in. Buddy H. Gill in
San Francisco. Welcome in. Is this your first time calling
the show?

Speaker 15 (01:00:50):
Indeed?

Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
Yeah, Well, welcome in the first timers. Go ahead, you
got the floor.

Speaker 7 (01:00:55):
Oh right on, Well back on the streaming piece.

Speaker 16 (01:00:57):
It's like the thing about with like with spirts right
now is exactly that there's so many blackouts, so honestly
bring out to Jolly Roger because like right now it's
you might as well just use stream East or something
like that to like watch the games because of like
having to go Thursday for like you know, like Amazon,
and then going to something else for like Sunday, and

(01:01:18):
then you can't to go somewhere else for Mondays. Like
if they had just a uniform it's going to one
specific service would be one thing, but like having it
so that nowadays where you just have to guess basically
or let alone blackouts. Blackouts shouldn't be a thing, especially
if you're in the area trying to watch your like
watch your team.

Speaker 6 (01:01:37):
It just doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 16 (01:01:39):
But yeah, that's that's about.

Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
You know, you bring up a really good point because
a week ago Friday, when the Chiefs opened up against
the Chargers in Brazil, it's talking to a buddy, you said, hey,
the games on YouTube, because what you you didn't know?
So continue on.

Speaker 16 (01:01:55):
Yeah, like like YouTube I will say, though, is pretty smart.
I mean it's better than happened with like the first
Tyson fight, which, by the way, okay, Tyson versus Mayweather
should not be a thing.

Speaker 5 (01:02:07):
No, it should not be a thing.

Speaker 16 (01:02:08):
It should not be a thing.

Speaker 15 (01:02:10):
Like I'm sorry.

Speaker 16 (01:02:11):
No, everyone's gonna say like, oh, yeah, Tyson just needs
one punch. No no, no, like dude, please stop. Yes,
you want to get the buck, I get it, but
like do it somewhere else, do it in coaching. I
don't know, like you just, dude, don't have the fight anymore.
Like one, that's the biggest thing. But two, if you're
getting old man, like even though you're gonna get probably

(01:02:33):
peppered up with a few punches and whatnot, like it's
probably not gonna be as bad as like a heavyweight
kind of thing. Like no, sorry, pang inside on that piece,
like the love of all that is good in boxing.
Stop like get the super fights, like get another, you know, hell,
get another, like a jury fight, like that's sure with whoever.

(01:02:54):
But anyways, no, but the other thing because like San Francisco, uh,
I will say, I'll watch the w n B a
like for the playoffs, like yeah, Kaylin Klark is the
w n b A and what's everything that's going on? Like, Hey,
if she wants to go to the Bay Area, we
will take her. We will, oh lordie, we will treat

(01:03:15):
her the best. So I mean I joke aside with
like kind of like you know, the situation. Uh, it
is kind of cool, especially because with the Valkyries first season,
whatnot like as an.

Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
Expansion, first expansion, do you have the playoffs in the
first year?

Speaker 7 (01:03:28):
Yeah, dude, it's cool.

Speaker 16 (01:03:31):
Like I will say, like the vibe in the sense
of the like recognition to the sport. It's not you know,
it's not like the Warriors, but uh, it's definitely kind
of has it has a buzz basically, and it's almost
like a cult following in the sense because like you
you hear about it, like you hear about like a
distinct band and all of a sudden like, oh you
know about that band. It's kind of like that kind

(01:03:51):
of feeling. But it's really it's only it's only positive,
which is really cool.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
So, man, pickets are super cheapiol I just thanks so much. Man,
I got to get to these other calls. But you
cover a lot of good ground. Don't be a stranger. Okay,
I want to make sure the folks get in. Thanks again, GEO.
First time caller, Andrew and Bakers feel's back. Welcome and Andrew.
How are you hey?

Speaker 6 (01:04:13):
Bernie?

Speaker 17 (01:04:14):
All right, I got two things. First thing, I'm gonna
touch on Aaron Glenn when he cut that guy after
fumbling the kickoff.

Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
Yep.

Speaker 17 (01:04:26):
I've been thinking about Don Mattingly when he was the
coach of the Dodgers and yas Yasiel Puigue. Don Mattingly
was pretty good manager, but yeah, Yasiel Puigue was great,
and I feel like Maddingly like crushed his spirit and
because he was a little bit out of control. And anyways,

(01:04:48):
I think you got to keep that in mind. If
you're Aaron Glenn, well.

Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
You know what you bring up an interesting point. He's
setting a tone because the other fifty three guys and
the seventeen as in a practice squad saw that. Jimmy
Johnson's first year in Dallas in nineteen eighty nine, cut
a draft choice in preseason for forming a kickoff. He
called him and said, Son, I'm gonna give you a
chance to never lose a game for the Dallas Cowboys again.

(01:05:14):
He set that tone. Early two years later they were
in the Super Bowl. Continue on.

Speaker 17 (01:05:19):
Okay, and then my second thing is in regards to
Adam Silver, he's not listening to people. Adam, you're not listening.
You're not listening to people on Fox Sports Radio. You're
probably not listening to common sense. People are asking for
a chocolate chip cookie and you're giving him a half

(01:05:40):
half of a mic and ike, and you're offering these
things that we're not asking for. And if you think
about the Cubs, they were on WGN all the time.
How many Cubs fins were made because they were on WGN,
how much merchandise was sold, and how many lifelong Cubs

(01:06:04):
f fans were made because of that being available.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
That's a really good point. That's going back today, good stuff.
Appreciate that as always. Andrew, thank you, Jack and Denver joined.
Just welcome in, Jack, how are you?

Speaker 18 (01:06:17):
It's actually Jeff, she got along.

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
But it's all good, it's all good. We're just we're
just glad you called in. Have you joined us before?
I have?

Speaker 19 (01:06:25):
And I love your show and I love the multiple topics.
But as far as Adam Silver goes, that is just asenine.
I mean, they're trying to compete with the other markets,
and now they're making people pay for stuff because I
have Drake TV, and I've had Drake TV for a while,
and I was the only one to be able to

(01:06:46):
watch the Nuggets on Altitude for three years because the
other markets here in Denver didn't carry him. And now
not having the NBA on TNT and him asking us
to pay more to watch NBA, it's just asinine.

Speaker 20 (01:07:04):
It's stupid.

Speaker 21 (01:07:05):
It's like, put it on, let us watch it, don't
make us pay more for it. It's batten up the
NFL doing this Prime crap and this Amazon crap.

Speaker 7 (01:07:16):
It's like you subcracked to your cable number. I want
to watch what I want to watch.

Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
That's fair. No, you're consumer. You have a right to
your opinion. I certainly get it, and I what triggered
me and what I triggered me, But what prompted me
was I thought Adam Silver was just kind of cavalier
in his comments, Well, we we'll just watch highlights. We're
kind of a highlight league.

Speaker 7 (01:07:37):
Okay, they're going to lose viewers and it's stupid because
it's it's nice to.

Speaker 21 (01:07:42):
Be able to watch the games on ESPN or DNT
whatever and can watch the games.

Speaker 8 (01:07:48):
But to pay more for the NBA, No, that's just stupid.

Speaker 7 (01:07:51):
And as far as the w NBA, yeah, Caitlin Clark
was playing, I'd watched.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
But if not, no, well she's not. So how do
you think they're will be.

Speaker 13 (01:08:02):
Down?

Speaker 14 (01:08:03):
Down, down down? They're losing their cash cow?

Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
Good stuff appreciated. Jeff in Denver, don't be a stranger.
Appreciate the call and strong opinions. Mike the Leprechawn from
Boston joins us, what's up mate.

Speaker 20 (01:08:18):
Good morning again, Bernie. I do miss TNT, by the way,
and the guy GEO had a brilliant point about the blackouts.
I was trying to watch the Red Sox and the
Yankees on Thursday and I couldn't find it. I was shocked,
and go listen on the radio. I'll do quickly comments
about the w n B A. I watched the highlights.
I watched the NBA, the NBA, the w NBA highlights.

(01:08:42):
If I were a football fan, I think Rogers for
one year, but I would take Stoppers for the long term.

Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
And I met Rogers Fields Rogers versus Field justin Fields.

Speaker 20 (01:08:52):
Anybody Rogers for one year he has one.

Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Yea, I'm just talking about who do you think I
will do better this year?

Speaker 9 (01:08:58):
What?

Speaker 5 (01:08:58):
This?

Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
Just this coming here?

Speaker 5 (01:09:00):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Okay, go ahead.

Speaker 20 (01:09:03):
So I love soccer. Soccer is on NBC Peacocks. They
have a Friday in that game. They have three slots
on Saturday and two on Sunday. And that's so anyway.
I ran into Robert Powis yesterday at my local grocery
store just as an FYI. But I do have a
funny story for your what kind of fool of you?

Speaker 6 (01:09:22):
Look it up?

Speaker 20 (01:09:23):
A guy up in British Columbia in Canada got pulled
over for DUI and do you know what he was
doing on the main street. He was driving his daughter's
Barbie car down the main street.

Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
All right, we'll end on that, Mike, good stuff. You
enjoy your football. Sunday, Tyler and Minnesota joined us next
welcome in.

Speaker 22 (01:09:44):
Power Ay burn sank my call always, I hate I
hate to ruin the vibe. Everybody's got a platform on
but I just want your pretty on the PHILLYKSE game like.

Speaker 9 (01:09:57):
The spreads very close.

Speaker 15 (01:09:58):
I hate taking the road, but the way they dominate them.

Speaker 7 (01:10:02):
The Super Bowl without worthy or Rice.

Speaker 15 (01:10:06):
And AJ brown Smith didn't really do anything in the
first game.

Speaker 7 (01:10:13):
They got to come on at some point like, do
you think this is a good spot to take a
road dog.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
Here with well, their road favorite actually Phillyes laying a
point and a half. I haven't done anything on that.
I think there's real concern about the Chiefs. I know
you'll never convince Nick right of that, but these are
the facts. Tyler. Patrick Mahomes is zero and two against
the Eagles, including the Super Bowl. He's the only average

(01:10:41):
nineteen points a game, and they played the Eagles five touchdowns,
four interceptions, has been sacked seven times, and frankly, if
we've been paying attention in the last thirty four games,
the Chiefs offense points per game ranked sixteenth, yards for
play rank eighteenth, yards per rush twenty third, big plays
twenty seventh. The suffice it to say they're not what
they were. The difference also, though, now is the Chiefs

(01:11:04):
checked that the Eagles have six new players on defense.
So it's a game. I don't like the game. I
probably will not touch the game. And I've heard of
the thousand and has. Of course, I know whenever Patrick
Mahomes is a dog at home. You know it's a lock,
but it's a point and a half that's not really
a dog basically a pick them game, and this is

(01:11:26):
not the same Chiefs team. It's just not you got
the last word.

Speaker 15 (01:11:30):
That's that's kind of where I come from.

Speaker 9 (01:11:32):
It's like, it's tough.

Speaker 7 (01:11:33):
It's tough not to take the Chiefs at home, especially
going zero.

Speaker 15 (01:11:36):
To one first, Like you can't think after winning fifteen
games they actually lose another one at home right away,
but the Eagles kind of dominated them, and they're coming
out without any wide receivers or the top two at least,
and it just when you start adding up the Barkley,
the AJ Browns, all that with the deep, the Carter

(01:11:57):
coming back after spitting on the quarterback, Like it's tough
to kind of not think that they.

Speaker 7 (01:12:02):
Should win this game.

Speaker 15 (01:12:04):
And it's early in the NFL season, so it doesn't
mean much in the Grand Steama thing, but it's kind
of feels like they're undervalue tomorrow, which is kind of
weird with Chiefs at home.

Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
If I had a gun in my head, and I don't,
but I might take a look at the Chiefs first half,
but that'd be about it. I appreciate you calling in.
Don't be a stranger. Coming up, We'll welcome in Lynn

(01:13:19):

in Boulder, Colorado.

Speaker 18 (01:13:22):
Welcome in, Hey, Bernie, Hi, I just wanted to give
you a couple of quick time ins on this WNBA. No,
I won't waste my time. Adam Silver has got to
be crazy. I mean, he's got his league already forty
viewing audience and he's pulling this crap.

Speaker 7 (01:13:44):
And what was your third one?

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
Aaron Rodgers versus Justin Fields? For this year, who do
you believe will have the better season?

Speaker 18 (01:13:53):
Rogers are going to have a better season. And my
last thing I'd like to ben about a little bit
is the Sanders family older. Okay, how this is how
this is all going? Uh, they're already talking about trying
to do a buyout on him.

Speaker 5 (01:14:08):
Now really.

Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Stand on the lineland. This is interesting because I was
talking to somebody and they're like, Okay, it blooms off
the rose. He's basically fourteen and fourteen now as a
coach doesn't really beat any ranked teams. Uh, it's starting
to in. The sizzles starting to fade. There's more sizzled
than steak. But honest to goodness, that you're really you're

(01:14:31):
they You've heard people intimate they might be looking at
a buyout.

Speaker 18 (01:14:36):
Already talking about it online.

Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
Okay, but anybody credible talking about that because it's.

Speaker 18 (01:14:42):
Not yet, No, not yet.

Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
How do you feel about it? Because let me ask
you a question. I don't really like the way he
through his defense under the bush after the Houston game.
Don't you know both quarterbacks he's not kind of jumped shit,
he's really I've always been a Dion fan, but man,
and does this guy were his emotions on a sleeve?

Speaker 18 (01:15:02):
He's real wishy washy right now. Who knows what he's
going to do next? Because I mean, you start, he
got three quarterbacks, two of them were big time quarterbacks,
and neither one of them are playing.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
I don't quite get that.

Speaker 18 (01:15:15):
But other thing about the Sanders family is Shiloh getting
cut down in Tampa Bay. He showed his emotions again
by trying to slug. The guy got ejected.

Speaker 5 (01:15:24):
Right.

Speaker 18 (01:15:25):
He's got a settlement going back to his senior year
in high school that he beat up a security office
officer and he owes over a million dollars in a settlement,
and he's trying to get a bankruptcy declared on this
and he's tried two times already, and he's trying to
get a third but he doesn't he doesn't even have

(01:15:47):
a net worth of over three hundred thousand dollars because
he owes this guy a bunch of money. So they're
not they're not talking much about that right now. But
then you know, they talk about this Mercedes or not
this Mercedes roll Joyce being delivered in Texas for Shila,
for Sudeer. That's all true too. So I mean, you know,
this whole thing is just a mess and just keeps

(01:16:09):
getting worse.

Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
Interesting. Okay, thanks for checking in. Lynn, don't be a stranger.
I had vaguely heard something about shallows issues. I haven't
really talked about it. I don't have enough knowledge. Uh, Mike,
back to Vegas. Welcome in, Mike, how are you?

Speaker 6 (01:16:23):
I'm doing good, Bernie, how are you doing good?

Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
Thanks?

Speaker 6 (01:16:26):
Okay. I love that there's a folpery of topics and
we get to talk about them here. Let's see Mike
Tyson and Floyd Money. Mayweather a complete joke. Not Floyd.
I don't really like his style of fighting. I never have,
but I think we have a.

Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
More enjoyable But will you watch it? Will you watch
it just for the following? Okay, that's the main thing
I'm looking at.

Speaker 6 (01:16:53):
I mean, rather watch George Foreman resurrected from the graves.

Speaker 5 (01:17:00):
Yeah, continue on for a real fight.

Speaker 6 (01:17:04):
I get many uh many to fight him. So yeah, no,
I won't watch that fight. It's ridiculous. Uh. Tyson's already
lost his credibility, uh from the fight previously fight. Okay,
all right, here's the deal with Caitlin Clark. She is

(01:17:24):
the league. Pay us what we're worth. Well, they're not
worth bupcus because they still they have never made a profit.
And I was a w NBA fan from the beginning,
being from La watching the Sparks. That team has been
through four or five different owners, and that's starting with
Doctor Bust, went through Magic and other people. So here

(01:17:49):
here's the thing. Uh, I think if you want to
see a boxing match, I think you get better ratings. Uh,
Caitlyn Clark versus uh what's her name? May fighting angel
reaes Angel Rees. So yeah, she is the league king.

Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
Will you be watching the playoffs period?

Speaker 11 (01:18:11):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
Or no?

Speaker 6 (01:18:13):
No, I'm not watching the playoffs. I might by accident
turn it on by by channel surfing, but no, not
by design. Going to quarterbacks, Justin Fields has been a
victim of his organizations. Even the Steelers made a very
big mistake by not leaving him in and.

Speaker 7 (01:18:34):
Putting in Russell Wilson. I think both quarterbacks Rogers and
Fields are going to have superb seasons and will Unfield
the best of his career. But being from Pittsburgh originally,
we've been whispering for months, well since the Rogers got signed.

(01:18:55):
This could be really special. But Sop, everybody stays healthy.
So your topics have been great spot on, and Adam
Silver has been a horses ass. And remember one thing
in business, the tig gets fat and the hog gets blottered.
I hope that that's not true with my beloved nb A,

(01:19:17):
but I don't like getting jerked around with all these
different platforms to enjoy my sports, and that's what's happening everywhere.

Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
Thanks for checking in, buddy. What I want Emma to
do is hold on till after the top of the
hour so I can give you enough time. We're not
gonna have enough time. We're up against it, and you
know if you can hang on, we'll go right to
you and there you'll be our last call. Uh. And
we'll do that off top of the hour and tat
and I'll get to your your Bengals Jags thoughts. It's

(01:19:52):
an interesting game, It's an interesting line for Sunday. I listen,
you know they're they're They're both coming off week one wins.
Both teams are gonna face a tough test. And I'll
get you in my analysis sometime after after the top
of the hour. Uh. And I think that this game

(01:20:14):
is gonna be close. I do. I think it's gonna
be The Jags are gonna keep it close. The Bengals
could cover. Well, we'll get to that. I'll get to
my pros and cons after the top of the hour.
Listening to the Bernie Frattle Show, keep it locked on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:20:29):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
That's right, you heard the band. Bernie Fattle Show keeps
rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We're coming
to your line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. We will take you up to three
am Pacific, six a m. Easter and we are now
just eight minutes and fifty nine Try that again, eight
hours and fifty nine minutes away from Week two in

(01:20:54):
the NFL. We have one call to wrap up on
the Bennight Eletants go to Emmett in Olympia, and but
thanks for hanging on. Welcome in man, Ernie Fridat, what's
going on? How you doing good? Thank you man, thank you.

Speaker 10 (01:21:07):
Yeah, Aaron Rodgers, I'll start with teams who have the
better season him or justin Fields and good to be
back by the way. I think I look at this. Obviously,
Steelers and Jets played each other Week one. The Jets
looks really good. I'm not going to dismiss that.

Speaker 20 (01:21:21):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (01:21:21):
And also we have to look at this and also
think the Steelers are always a team that starts out
very hot and then fools down. But I think I'm
gonna lead with history here. I think that we've seen
Aaron Rodgers do this before. I think that the Jets,
I mean, he's still gonna be very good. I think
that he's gonna be the best quarterback they've had.

Speaker 5 (01:21:40):
In a little bit. But I think when you ask
who's gonna.

Speaker 10 (01:21:42):
Do better, I think it has to come down to
the veteran and the guy who's been in the league
doing this.

Speaker 7 (01:21:47):
I mean the Jets defense. You can say, oh, maybe that's.

Speaker 5 (01:21:50):
You know, not too good.

Speaker 10 (01:21:52):
I mean sauces overrated, to say what you want to
say about that, But I think that performance trump to
anything that he had with the New York Jets. I mean,
just great for moments overall. And I'm nervous as a
Seahawks fan that we have to take on Aaron Rodgers tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (01:22:04):
I'm interested to see what happens with that.

Speaker 10 (01:22:06):
I think at this point it's a little bit too early,
But if I had to take one, I'm say Aaron
Rodgers because of the experience Adam Silver. It's not like
the Highlight League. I mean, he's not wrong in a way,
because there's a lot of people who just know what's
going on in the NBA because of what ops up
on their IV reels, because of the highlights they see,
because of Legion hoops or hoops, Central Post and whatever

(01:22:29):
it may be on Twitter.

Speaker 5 (01:22:30):
So he's not wrong in that aspect.

Speaker 10 (01:22:32):
But when you're the commissioner, the commissioner of the National
Basketball Association, you've got to be better than that. Like,
your job is to make this league the most money,
the most ratings, and you know what's going to happen
if you can get people to watch these games naturally
instead of giving up all on my highlights league and
given too much essays about.

Speaker 5 (01:22:51):
The NFL, then you really should. If you're the commission
of the NBA.

Speaker 10 (01:22:54):
Guess what, If you can get these ratings up, people
are going to have way more authentic NBA discussions when
you talk about the actual game. I feel like the
NBA media as a whole, it's not we break down
the game sometimes, but a lot of it it's us
more breaking down dramas, breaking down a way.

Speaker 2 (01:23:11):
It's become a lot of that it is, And I
think you'll see some drama in Los Angeles this year.
It's under the radar right now. But finally, are you
gonna watch the w NBA Playoffs?

Speaker 10 (01:23:22):
One more thing quickly on it? I mean it's just obvious.
It's low hanging through and I mean not a lot
of casuals would know much about the NBA because they
don't watch it.

Speaker 5 (01:23:30):
Look at the ratings.

Speaker 7 (01:23:30):
It sucks.

Speaker 10 (01:23:31):
I'm an NBA fan, but w NBA Playoffs, I'm not
going to watch it at all. Bernie, I think the
you know, the majority of the cars kind of stayed
it perfectly. I think it's Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese
we're in the playoffs. I'd be more down for that,
you know, the CE and their rivalry, because their rivalry
is what brings attention to this for I mean, every
time they played before Caitlin Clark got hurt, that's all

(01:23:51):
we talked about.

Speaker 23 (01:23:53):
But I mean there's so much better stuff to watch,
Like you know, we'll have the NFL Week two, Week three,
Week four, all that NFL season, and obviously MLB is
wanting now get into the playoffs.

Speaker 10 (01:24:03):
I'd rather watch that college football NFL over the WNBA playoffs.

Speaker 15 (01:24:07):
Thank you, Bernie.

Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
All Right, thanks Sam, and thanks for hanging on in
th eighteen on Twitter. I want to get to your question.
I think this Jaggs Bengals matchup is very difficult to handicap.
I think with the numbers right where it should be,
Jags are catching three and a half on the road
against Cincinnati. If you watched the game last week, the

(01:24:30):
Jacksonville showed they're a team that can't really be taken lightly.
I think their defense is going to be much improved.
You still have a franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who hasn't
been great in his career, but I still think it's
a high ceiling. And you've got other skilled players Travis
at and Brian Thomas, and I'm curious to see what
they're going to do with Travis Hunter on defense. He

(01:24:50):
only took six defensive snaps last week against Carolina. He
did play forty two snaps on offense and caught six
of six passes. Think think you're going to see more
of Travis Hunter on defense, and how does that help
cover Jamar Jason t against I don't know. The bottom
line is I cannot go against Joe Burrow. But I

(01:25:13):
don't want to lay the three and a half either.
I know I don't mean to be wishy watching you
remember we got to be very vigilant when we bet
these games. So gun in my head and I'm not
involved in this. I'm not telling anybody else what to do.
I might take a look at the Bengals first half.
I might take a look at the Bengals first half.
But I think it's going to be a game that
might be a little tighter than people realize. We shall see.

(01:25:36):
It's too early. You don't really know a hell of
a lot about the NFL to you get to about
the fourth week. But I did form some impressions the
first week, and I'd like to just kind of kind
of and By the way, mister Lucky, I'm going to
get to my Marvin bad News barn story because he

(01:25:56):
put on Twitter he'd rather watch old ABA highlights then
the W NBA, and that, of course I cannot think
about the W in the ABA without Marvin bad News Barnes. All,
what the hell, I'll just tell the story now, then
we'll get to NFL first depressions. Marvin bad News Barnes
is one of the most prolific offensive players in the

(01:26:17):
history of basketball period. And when he played for the
Saint Louis Spirits back in well, I think it's like
seventy four or seventy five whatever, and Bob Constas was
actually one of the I think they did play by
play announcer. So they had one particular road trip I
believe they were in They were in Philadelphia, and they

(01:26:39):
were flying somewhere west and the flight was only about
a forty five minute flight. So when bad News Barnes
got his itinerary, all players get itineraries, and it basically
said the flight departed at ten ten am in Philadelphia,

(01:27:00):
and I can't remember the city wasigning in it. I
might have been Saint Louis and it was going to
land at ten am. So it's going to depart at
ten ten in Philadelphia, atlant at ten am. Now bad news.
Barnes wasn't exactly on top of his you know, time
zone knowledge, that is the words light way of putting it.

(01:27:20):
So he looked at Bob Costas and said, Bob, is
this true? We take off at ten ten and land
at ten am? And Bob says, yeah, of course, Marvin,
why he goes Bob, I ain't getting on no time machine.
And that's a true story. And you know he actually
missed a flight once and charted his own. There's a
million stories on him. I don't want to get off

(01:27:41):
on a tangent. But back to the NFL first impressions
heading into week two. Listen, everybody's gaga about the Baltimore
Ravens every year that people predicce the same people predict
them to win the Super Bowl. Even got new Super Bowl.
And I like Lamar Jackson. I have been defending him
since he was a senior at Louisville. He's a far

(01:28:03):
better pocket passion that people give him credit for. He's
a prolific offensive talent. I don't know what happens to
this team. When it matters most. And it happened to
get him Sunday night in Buffalo to cough up that lead.
You know, by the way they gave up forty points.
So it has to do with I guess you know
the old joke about the boxer. I was worried about
the way and he should have been worried about the

(01:28:23):
way out. Well, the details were different, but the results
were saying for Baltimore. The next gen stats had given
the Ravens a ninety eight percent chance at winning about
three and a half minutes to go in Buffalo Sunday night,
and Baltimore became the first team since two thousand to
lose after leading by fifteen points with possession and under
ten minutes in regulation. Those teams culatively in the last

(01:28:45):
twenty years had been fifty three. And oh that is concerning.
I don't care what anybody says. It's an impression. I
may have been wrong, very wrong about the New England Payots.
We were total they were rebuilding and I thought they
completely you know, the culture, the coach, the roster. Maybe

(01:29:09):
the roster's not as good as I thought. They looked
a lot more at the version they were last year.
Than what we had been told. The Patriots trailed in
every stack category against the Raiders, and I get that
the Raiders are better with Geno Smith, seemingly better with
Ashton genty, different energy with Pete Carroll, and everybody said, oh,

(01:29:29):
it's a new attitude. They said the same damn thing
when Derek Carr came back from injury a few years ago.
They said the same damn thing. When Josh mcdameels was hired.
They said the same damn thing with Antonio Pearce. I
liked Antonio Pierce and now are seeing it with Pete Carroll. Okay,
but the Raiders went up there to New England three

(01:29:52):
thousand miles and owned the Patriots. Now the score was
twenty to thirteen. And I'm not saying the Raiders were
st Their run game only average two point three yards
a rush, even though they have action genty. But I
like asking genty a lot. But you know, you can
go back and research the stats if you want, if
you've got nothing better to do. In this New England

(01:30:15):
team heads to Miami and then they get to jump
into that high eighty degree heat in South Florida in September.
Miami's a really nice, cozy one and a half full disclosure,
I've fired on Miami. I don't have any faith in
this new England team. What I saw last Sunday. I
can't see Mike Rabel fixing anytime soon, not in one
week when you got to go on the road. It

(01:30:36):
gainst the pissed off Miami team. And I will tell
you it's amazing how often that an NFL team could
look just about the exact opposite of the way they
did Week one. Teams that look weak one look terrible,
all of a sudden they look completely different we two
and vice versa. And make no mistake, I am not

(01:30:58):
I am not implying that the Miami Dolphins are going
anywhere this year. With all the respect, all the respect
to my guy, aren't expander I love. It ain't in
the cards, and I don't wish any ill will on anyone.
But I'd be very surprised if Mike mc daniels back
next year. Just an opinion, Just an opinion. I'm paid
to have opinions. I got it, okay. So that's that's

(01:31:19):
where we are on that. But I think in this
spot later today, in hot, humid Miami, in September, where
Northeast teams typically wilt. And if I'm not mistaken, I
think I think two was like five and zero against
the Patriot whatever. If we forget all that other mischig gouts,
I think in this spot in New England gets exposed

(01:31:40):
once again. Seattle, Okay, no longer do they have dk
metcalf or Tyler Lockett and Jackson Smith and Jebe is
now the lone receiving threat for the Seahawks. He had
almost sixty percent of his targets, which let all Week
one receivers, but he also fumbled on a screen pass

(01:32:02):
in the fourth quarter. There were many one of many
miscues that the Seahawks had. They drop a home game
seventeen fourteen to the Niners. And I know that the
Seahawks were really trendy pick plus two and a half.
They didn't get my money.

Speaker 8 (01:32:16):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:32:17):
Now, to be fair, I didn't bet on them forty
nine ers either. Now they're a short underdog at Pittsburgh
on Sunday, But I don't know. I liked their coach
a lot in Seattle. We'll see where they go. The
Rams in Houston lockhorns Sunday, and I expect defense to
be the story. All right. I checked that the Rams

(01:32:39):
in Houston locked horns last Sunday, and you've got CJS John,
you got Matt Stafford. One would have thought those two
guys would have got the headlines, but it was actually
the respective defenses that showed out. They completely played smash
mouth football the other way, smashing their opposition in the face,
literally in the case of Pooqua Nakua, who was bleeding

(01:33:02):
from his forehead. And he even admitted he took a
hell of a shot. He says, I don't think I've
taken too many shots like that one the Rams. It
was a fist fight in the phone booth. The Rams
managed to escape fourteen to nine thanks to Pooka Nakoula,
who's a hell of a player. Ten catches one hundred
and thirty yards. So I look for that to continue.

(01:33:23):
I think Houston's defense might not be as good as
last year's, but it's good, and so are the Rams.
Just an observation, all right, The aforementioned Dolphins, all right,
it was a disaster last week. Let's call let's call
it for what it is. Miami's in trouble against the
Colts last week, and I know people like to you know,

(01:33:47):
punk Daniel Jones. He's not that bad. I know he
turned he was a turnover machine his first few years.
But he can play and he's accurate when he's on
his game and sets his feet. He's actually got a
road playoff win in his first three years in the league,
which is more than Matt Stafford ad. We'll see if
he can follow up this week what he did last week.
There's no way to know. The NFL is a week

(01:34:09):
to week league, but I can tell you last week
that Dolphins defense, they allowed scores on literally every Colt's possession,
literally every possession, and the first four drives for Mike
mcdanielin and the Dolphins or offense. Here's what they were.
An interception, all humble, a punt, an interception. As I said,

(01:34:30):
I am not so sure Daniel Jones will be living
in Miami coaching the Dolphins. Check that. Try that again,
Mike McDaniel in twenty twenty six. Don't want to cast
his persions, but at least for Sunday, I think I
think Miami gets it done. I think he gets it done.

Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
We're back at the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio,
coming you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Will take you up to three AMCIF at six am Eastern.
We are eight minutes and thirty seven I did this
every time. We are eight hours and thirty seven minutes

(01:36:10):
away from what should be an exciting Week two in
the National Football League, and there are three notable matchups
that I'm really looking forward to, and I'm going to
get to those in a bit here. Coming up in
about six minutes, we'll have the fantasy files for your
fantasy owners. And I want to just take a quick

(01:36:32):
detour here because this is this is not a small
sports story. You may or may not recall that last
week the sports world stood up and took pretty significant
notice for those who were paying attention, when Pablo Tory
broke the news that Kawhi Leonard and Clippers owner Steve
Baumer might have circumvented the NBA salary cap via not

(01:36:57):
show marketing Jotford Leonard, which allegedly paid him twenty eight
million dollars forty eight million if you count stock options
to do nothing. Now. After that died down, Balmer and
the Clippers issued pretty staunch denials. But now the NBA
has announced an investigation. You haven't heard a hell of
a lot since, and I'm not really sure how the

(01:37:20):
other owners feel about this, believe it or not. Mark
Cuban actually came out publicly. I think he was kind
of on Balmer's side, So I'm not implying there's any
animosity or anything like that. I don't know. We just
don't know a lot. But there is an investigation, and
if the investigation finds guilt, what could the punishment be?
All Right, that's really the question, and we'll get over this.

(01:37:43):
We'll do more of this with Mark Medina next week.
But it's in the CBA Article thirteen, section three. The NBA,
in theory, could find the clippers of millions of dollars
that could make them forfeit draft picks and even void
Leonard's contract. It could get very ugly if you look
up what happened to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Joe Smith,

(01:38:05):
a player out of Maryland about twenty five years ago. Okay,
some people think the NBA should really lay down the
hammer or if the allegations are proven too. I don't
have any idea where this is going. I know that
it's there. It is a story. And in the last
week or so or ten days since this bomb show

(01:38:26):
came out, by the way, the NBA has not only
launched an investigation, they've even hired an external law firm. Now,
I don't know how much appetite they have to have
this become this big stand on the NBA, but the
sports world is awaiting some kind of verdict, okay. And
there were even some additional details who came out last

(01:38:47):
week about the Clippers and in the relationship with this
company Aspiration, which is now the bankrupt firm and a
sustainability firm that allegedly paid Kawhi Leonard as well as
Leonard in his camp prior dealings when you still a
member of the Toronto Raptors. Even ESPN's Ramona Shelburne has
checked in. She conducted the first public interview with Steve

(01:39:09):
Bomber that followed Pabla Tory's report, and then this last
Monday on NBA today she said that actually, I believe
it was reported that Aspiration there they had actually bid
almost double what in two it paid for the naming
rights the Clippers, shiny new toy that arena, the Intuit
doma in to it. As you know, it's a financial

(01:39:30):
software company. They're the ones that make turbo attacks and
quick books. They paid five hundred and fifty million for
the arena and the Clippers had their first season this
past season. Now, Shelburn said that Balmer, who accorded to
tours report, invested fifty million in Aspiration, explaining the Clippers
chosen to it because it was a long standing company.

(01:39:53):
But the Clippers also said that they had had sponsorship
deals with Aspiration for two seasons back in twenty one,
twenty two, twenty twenty three. But see that gives you
an indication of the kind of money the Aspiration that
at least at one point was throwing around.

Speaker 5 (01:40:09):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:40:09):
The Clippers also said in a statement following a report
that well, neither the team nor Balmer quote had any
oversight of the endorsement deal Leonard made with Aspiration and Tory.
Pablo Torre said he actually spoke to seven former Aspiration
employees in his report, one source who consented to the

(01:40:31):
interview being interviewed. But it was one of those deals
where they kind of distort your voice, you know. He
said that Leonard's deal with the company was so the
Clippers could circumvent the NBA salary camp. Now, again, I
have not seen any hard evidence. I am not taking sides.
I'm just saying that on the face of it, one

(01:40:51):
could surmise where they're smoke, there's fire, but we don't know.
In an interview with Ramona Schouburn, Steve Balmer, the owner
of The Clipper, pointed the fingered Aspiration, saying, quote, they
conned him. This was Balmer's quote. I made an investment
in these guys thinking it was on the up and up,
and they conned me. At this stage, I have no

(01:41:13):
ability to predict why they might have done anything they did,
let alone the specific contract with Kawhi, Balmer said. Now
Boston Sports Journal has also checked in, and they reported
last week that Aspiration paid an additional twenty million to
Leonard in shares of the company, which would have brought
the total endorsement deal to forty eight million, just a

(01:41:37):
two million shy of Bamber's investment. By the way, there
may be some precedents here. If you really want to
get deep into the weeds, they go back to twenty nineteen,
and there have been some reports in Surface that implied
that Leonard's uncle, Dennis Robertson, who also represented We represents Kawhi.
Leonard and lots of business deals, had several demands for

(01:42:00):
Kawhi services, including part ownership, which is not allowed in
the NBA CBA and on Tuesday, the Trinal Star Reporter
that one of the requests at the time was for
the Raptors to match at least ten million annually in
additional SPONSOROUSIP income. So stay tuned because this story has
layers and it has legs. Where it goes nobody knows,

(01:42:22):
but there are a lot of intrepid reporters doing a
lot of work on this, so it's something to watch,
especially with the NBA season around the corner. What's all
say around the corner is you got to set your
fantasy lineups, and so it's time for our Fantasy Files.

Speaker 24 (01:42:41):
Fantasy Files with Brandon Deutsch, your go to fantasy football segment.

Speaker 5 (01:42:47):
You got one going when.

Speaker 11 (01:42:50):
Welcome to Fantasy Files. This is the week that we
all need to win. If you're zero and one, you
need to get to one in one and if you're
one to oh, you need to get to two and oh.
That's how I see it, and we like to win
every week. But I know people have multiple teams and
if you didn't win with all your teams, I'm going.

Speaker 12 (01:43:06):
To help you with that right now.

Speaker 11 (01:43:07):
In the Bernie Frado Show with Fantasy Files, we'll be
doing six start suggestions in The first guy that I
love this week is Calvin Ridley against the Rams. Now,
Colvin Ridley didn't have a great week last week, and
it was against the Broncos, who, in my opinion, have
a better defense than the Rams. I think they have
more guys in the secondary. I don't think. I know
they have more guys in the secondary, and the Rams

(01:43:28):
have a great defensive line. We know that it makes
their secondary look more than pedestrian, which it probably is. However,
I do think Ridley, with the drop issues last week,
him having another week of practice with cam Ward so
receivers dropped a lot of passes. I think it's gonna
be a closer game. I think that Calvin Ridley is
a start this week, and I would sit JK. Dobbins
of the Denver Broncos against the Colts. R J. Harvey

(01:43:51):
is going to get more touches this week after that
fifty yard run. Now, Dobbins did get the touchdown which
salvaged his fantasy day last week, but I just don't
expect much consistency from Dobbins.

Speaker 12 (01:44:01):
I don't r J.

Speaker 11 (01:44:02):
Harvey is the better running back. They have a great
offensive line to whoever's at running back's gonna get a touchdown.
And I do think that this is a better matchup
for them because they are playing Indianapolis Colts, who I
still think aren't that good. They just played the Dolphins
in Week one. Make sure to start Ricky Pearsall again
against the Saints. Mac Jones at quarterback not a big
difference for In fact, mac Jones eighteen point six fantasy

(01:44:23):
point average for Brian Thomas Junior when mac Jones was
that quarterback last season, Guess what his fantasy point average
was with Trevor Lawrence less than fourteen. So mac Jones
can support wide receiver ones in an offense. He did
it multiple times last season. He did it in New England,
and he's going to do it in San Francisco. Or remember,
Kyle Shanahan can make any quarterback look good. Mac Jones

(01:44:45):
kind of fits his system to a t. That's why
he wanted him coming out of Alabama. I think Ricky
Piersall after that four catch hundred yard performs. Remember I
told you guys to start him last week, he dominated.
I think he's in dominated against the Saints as well.
Now I do think it's going to have to be
early because I think the Niners will be up this
entire game, and they will use Christian McCaffrey a lot
in Brian Robinson Junior, and probably even Jordan James you'll

(01:45:05):
see a little bit in this game as well running
the football. The Saints, on the other hand, sit Alvin
Kamara and Chris Olave. Neither are going to do much
of anything. I am more confident about Alvin Kamara not
doing anything. Great player, don't get me wrong. The only
way he's productive is if he gets six or seven
catches and it's in a PPR league because or a touchdown, right,
he's gonna get maybe.

Speaker 12 (01:45:26):
Two yards per carry.

Speaker 11 (01:45:28):
That Robert salle led forty nine Ers defense is absolutely amazing.
It's incredible, and it's gonna be one of the best
defensive lines in the league in terms of stopping the run.
Now they have to get better with the pass rush,
but that's a separate story. You have Spencer Rawler, who's
a radic back there and doesn't have much experience in
the NFL. I think the Niners win big. I think
Ricky Piersal does a good job. I don't think Chris

(01:45:49):
o'lave does much of anything because the Niners corners are underrated.
You Olave had a decent week last week, but he
didn't have a great week, and I just don't see
them even if they're down and they have to chuck
balls down the field, I think it's gonna be more
of a Juwan Johnson out there, you know, pass the linebackers,
intermediate throws, whereas Chris Olave, you know the slot they.

Speaker 2 (01:46:09):
Can use him.

Speaker 11 (01:46:10):
I don't think it's gonna be downfield to Chris o'lave.
I think it's gonna be more of a Juwan Johnson
day if anything, if they're down the entire game, make
sure to start Travis Etn Junior. Travis Etn Junior was
an excellent late round pick. And I told you guys
that Travis Etn was a great pick and he turned
out to be excellent that they traded Tank Bigsby. That's
how good he was. Sixteen for one forty three week

(01:46:30):
one eighteen point six Fantasy points. And you want a touchdown,
I think you can get one this week against the Bengals.
That's an atrocious defense. Give me Travis Etn as a
locket in start over Guys like Jonathan Taylor, who has
a tougher matchup going up against the Broncos. And they're
not saying Jonathan Taylor. I'm just saying I would rank
ETN higher than a guy like Jonathan Taylor simply because
of the matchup. And make sure that you are sitting

(01:46:51):
Davante Adams against the Tennessee Titans. DeVante Adams didn't do
much last week, but I don't think he does much
against an underrated Tennessee defense. Buku Nakua is the focal
point of this offense. The Rams couldn't do much at
anything against Houston, who granted has in my opinion, a
slightly better defense in Tennessee, but it's not like it's
a huge drop off. I really think that the Rams

(01:47:12):
won't be able to score more than twenty one points
in this game.

Speaker 12 (01:47:15):
It'll be closer.

Speaker 11 (01:47:16):
I think Pouka is the only guy that I can
trust to go and give me twenty fantasy points in
this game. DeVante is going to be capped between five
to fifteen max, and I think it's more like five
to ten. Make sure to start Jordan Mason and sit
Aaron Jones. And here's why. Jordan Mason fifteen for sixty
nine last week on the ground they were down, so
they passed more. Aaron Jones is the pass catching back,

(01:47:37):
which is why he was targeted more and it got
that touchdown. The Vikings are going to be ahead in
this game against Atlanta. Mason will get a rushing touchdown
and he will do damage on the ground. So make
sure to start Jordan Mason and actually sit Aaron Jones
in that matchup. And I got one more for you
guys right now to end the day. Sit Cedric Tillman
against Baltimore. Hate the matchup, and make sure to keep starting.

(01:47:59):
Like I said said last week, a Mechegg Buka against Houston.
He was insane twenty four Fantasy points last week. Well
that's it for Fantasy Files on this week. Go win
NFL Week two. I'll see you back next week on
the Bernie Prouto Show on Brandandwitch.

Speaker 2 (01:48:14):
And we'll do this every Sunday morning one thirty am Pacific,
four thirty am Eastern. I do remember he did like
Ricky Pearsall a lot last week. I love the circle
of life aspect of Mac Jones starting for the forty
nine ers. There was that hullabaloo back in twenty twenty one.
Who would they draft through overall? Would it be mac Jones,

(01:48:35):
Would it be Trey Lance? They drafted Trey Lance. How
did that work out for you? By the way, what
a shock. DeVante Adams didn't do much and I don't
know what he'll do Sundays. That's gonna be a fist
fight in a phone booth at Tennessee. I do think
Tennessee defense is it's pretty good. And then Rams have
to also go on the road. Coming up. You know,

(01:48:58):
since the league realigned all their divisions in twenty oh two,
there have been twenty nine teams in that time span
that have gone from worst to first in their division.
Other eight divisions, and there are eight teams who finished
last last year. Who is most likely to go from
worst to first? Well, after analysis and after watching Week one,

(01:49:19):
it might be nobody. I'll give you my thoughts. Coming up.
I'm Bernie Frattle. We are company a line from the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios here in Las Vegas.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, we are back on
the Bernie Frattle Show. Fox Sports Radio Company line from
the Las Vegas studios here of Fox Sports Radio takeap

(01:49:40):
to three in Pacific, six am Eastern. Another full NFL
Sunday awaits which begs the question might any team go
from worst to first? THO there are eight divisions, so
eight teams finished last last year Cleveland, New Orleans, Tennessee,

(01:50:00):
the New York Giants, the Raiders, the Bears, the Patriots,
and the forty nine Ers. And as I said earlier,
since twenty oh two, when the divisions realigned, it's happened
every year except once, I believe in a couple of years,
there have been two teams that have done it. A
total of twenty nine teams have gone from worse to
first since twenty oh two. But after watching what happened

(01:50:27):
last week, I'm of the opinion we may not get
one this year. Let me start with the forty nine Ers,
who may have been the most likely choice to go
from worse diverse in their division. They were six to eleven.
Then the Las Vegas odds have been plus one fifty five,
the shortest odds by far. I mean, if you're really
feeling safty, bet the Browns. They're thirty five to one.

(01:50:47):
But I'll get to that in a minute. The Niners
have the easiest schedule. I see that in their quotes,
because there's nothing easy in the NFL. But based on
the teams they play in one lost records last year,
rejections this year, they have the easiest record. They are
want to zero. They had to the Saints on Sunday.
Then I gave some good reasons last week why they might.

(01:51:08):
But now they're already dealing with injuries again. They're just
snake back. They're gonna need brock Party to do this.
I'm not I'm not down on Mac Jones, like a
lot of people, are a pretty good quarterback, but I
don't know that Mac Jones helps you win that division.
Maybe maybe not. It's you're gonna hear from Arizona. I

(01:51:29):
told you, man, Arizona's gonna be good. Seattle will be
a dogfight. D Rams can they make I just don't
see it. They lost. You know, they got Robert Salad,
Nick Bosa and Fred Warner and players, but I just can't.
I can't feel that they'll do it. And so the
second most likely team, based on the ads in Vegas

(01:51:50):
for the New England Patriots plus five point fifty again,
Mike rabel revamped roster culture Drake May who did not
look good last week. The Patriots also have the easiest schedule,
just in the AFC. The last time the Patriots went
from worse to first were Tom Brady's first two seasons

(01:52:11):
with the team. Okay, they were five and eleven. The
year before. One year later, the legend of Brady was born.
He went to a first place finish in an eventual
winning the Super Bowl over the Rams. Brady ain't walking
through that door. And based on what I saw, that
roster might not be as good as I thought. Well,
the team with the third best odds with Chicago Bears,

(01:52:33):
you cannot tell me what you saw last week. And
by the way, at the end of the show, I'm
gonna do a little feature. Is it too early to panic? No,
And it's not too early to panic on this Caleb
Williams Ben Jonson relationship. And I'm sticking to my guns.
And oh, by the way, and I like Ben Johnson.
Oh and not for nothing. Let me just I'm spitballing here.

(01:52:54):
Of all the teams on this list that I mentioned,
the Bears were the most recent one to go from
worse to first after finishing five and eleven and twenty seventeen,
they came back. They won the NFC North in twenty
eighteen with a twelve and four record, sixteen game scheduled
in they even would have won a game in the playoffs,
said they not kind of double doint kicker miss a
field goal and guess who the quarterback was. Mitch Trubisky

(01:53:17):
completed sixty seven percent of his passes, went to the
playoffs two or three years, twenty five and sixties. It
started up, but now he wasn't good enough. I don't
I get it. Mitch wasn't going to get you the
Super Bowl? But what have you done since? Ben Johnson,
not for nothing, is already under fire after one game.
He made a fairly I call in the In the

(01:53:41):
week one loss Monday Night to Minnesota in which the
Bears led for about three quarters at Soldier Field, the
Bears were hopefully still trying to win the game. They
got a touchdown at the two o two mark at
the fourth order, and all of a sudden, the deficits

(01:54:02):
twenty seven to twenty four. So the big mistake that's
being massively questioned by the Peanut gallery was when their
kicker Caro Santos, on the ensuing kickoff, kicked the ball
into the hands of ty Chandler, who was the Vikings
return specialist. He was waiting in the end zone. He
looked at coach Kevin O'Connell, who's a tremendous coach. Connall.

(01:54:26):
Kevin O'Connell signaled take the ball out of the end
zone rather than neil for a touchback. What that did
was eat up clock and allowed Minnesota to take the
game to the two minute warning. That hurt the Bears,
well never know how much, but they didn't have the
two minute warning on their side after that point. And
there's a reason Kevin O'Connell was Coach of the Year.

(01:54:47):
Chicago had one time out remaining at that point. Several
fans and people questioned why didn't Ben Johnson half Santos
kicked the ball out of bounds for a five yard
penalty instead. No one really understood that decision. It makes
zero sense, and that's why you're paid the big bucks.
They already had all kinds of trouble with situational football

(01:55:08):
with Matt Eberflus last year. The Bears not kicking that
ball out of bounds. Here's a perfect summation of the
second half where they just said, we're going to find
a way not to win this game, will grab defeat
out of the jars of victory, and the Vikings would
have had better field position theoretically in such a scenario,
but the Bears would have benefited more from stopping the

(01:55:31):
clock and fourteen Minnesota to start its strive before the
two minute warning. Interestingly enough, the Bears were able to
get to three and out they needed. However, because of that,
Chicago had just sixteen seconds to score, which was not enough.
So already the season's just barely starting. Ben Johnson already

(01:55:53):
being scrutinized, and for good reason, and for good reason,
so I cannot in good conscience suggest or imply that
the Bears would be the team to win that division
when you got the Vikings and the Lions in there. Wait,
that's call them as I see them. That leaves the
team with the next best obs at twelve to one,

(01:56:16):
your Las Vegas Raiders, who everybody's gaga about after that
first performance at New England. Well, it was a good game,
and the Raiders, by the way, have never gone worse
to first and it's based on how stacked the AFC
West is this year. It's going to be very tough

(01:56:36):
to end that drought in my opinion. However, Pete Carroll,
there's hope, Hope springs eternal. In his fourteen years in Seattle,
Pete Carroll had eleven winning seasons, went to the playoffs
ten times. So do the Raiders have what it takes
to make that quantum lead jump. I don't think so.

(01:56:58):
I just don't. And I know they are a trendy
betting pick again this week catching three and a half.
The Chargers come to town. We don't know, you know,
if they got to sleep on their flight back to
Brazil or what that kind of lengthy travel might affect
how or if it affects them. You just don't know.

(01:57:19):
But I do know this. You compare the two rosters
and you tell me who you'd rather have. So that's
a tough game Monday night, Chargers laying three and a half.
The Raiders are in fact a trendy pick, and they
may cover and they could win out right, but that's

(01:57:40):
you know, that's one thing, and it's a quantum leak
to have to you know, tussle with Kansas City twice,
the Chargers twice, in Denver twice. I can't. I don't
feel it's the Raiders, which leaves the New York Giants
to twenty two to one. Now, the Giants are supposed
to be improved, and I think they are improved, but

(01:58:01):
I don't think they're as good as Philadelphia or Washington.
May not even be as good as Dallas. We'll find
that out on Sunday. They'll get a test. Yes, there's
an odd stat that the Giants became only the eight
team since two thousand and nine do outscore their preseason
opponents by sixty points, and last time that was done,
the six teams have made the playoffs. I don't think

(01:58:22):
the Giants will. Tennessee Titans at three and fourteen. Liked
what I saw out of cam mord A lot last week,
seven to one to win the AFC South. Now, but
if history is any indication, the Titans are in trouble
by virtue of the fact, they've never gone from worse
to first in their history, even the thirty seven years
they were in Houston. So we'll see how they fared
at home against the Rams. They played Denver really tough

(01:58:45):
last week. I was impressed. I was impressed with their effort.
I was impressed with cam Ward. I think this team's
going to be a tough out. Does that mean I
think they win their division? Can't say they will. The
New Orleans Saints, I don't think. Spencer Ratler in thirteen
to one. The Saints again went from worces to first
back in twenty oh nine. That's when they had Drew Brees.

(01:59:05):
They actually act win the Super Bowl that year, and
by the way, the twenty seventeen Eagles did the same
thing going from Worces to first, but this is not
the case. Finally, the Cleveland Browns thirty five to one.
Since the AFL NFL merger in nineteen seventy, Cleveland's actually
won five division titles in fifty five years, but they've

(01:59:26):
never gone from worse to first, and I think it's
probably a safe bet that dot will continue in twenty
twenty five. They had Cincinnati beat last week. They played
really well. Flacco played well, good effort all the way around,
and a comedy of theirs, a missed extra point, a
missed field goal, turnover. This team has just cursed. And

(01:59:48):
I think Kevin Stefanski is a good coach. But I
feel like Cincinnati gets it done in that division. So
I'm just gonna go out on a limb, and if
I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But those are the eighteen and
I don't think any of them are going to go
from Worster first this year, unless you know, Rock Purty
comes back and the Niners do something crazy. Keep it locked.

(02:00:10):
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show here on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (02:00:15):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
That's right, you heard the man Bernie Frattle Show. Keeps
Roland right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We're coming
to your line from the Fox Sports Radio compound here
in Las Vegas. Will take you up to three am Pacific,
six am easter ward. We are now seven hours and
fifty nine minutes away from which should be an entertaining

(02:00:39):
NFL Week two, and I expect it to look a
little different than NFL Week one in terms of how
often you'll see an NFL team not look very good
week one and look completely different week two, and vice versa. Now,
if there were let's put it this way, you don't

(02:01:00):
sample all the games, but the three most notable matchups
that I really am looking forward to I'm going to
start with the Bears Allions. Lions are lay six. This
is a notable game. It's a very critical early division matchup.
And the Bears, you saw what they did in their

(02:01:22):
divisional matchup last week, and you saw what the Lions
did in their divisional matchup last week. And this has
added fire because Bears head coach Ben Johnson he made
his mark in Detroit, and he loved his time in
Detroit and even decided to pass up potential head coaching

(02:01:44):
gig in twenty twenty four and spent another season competing
for a Super Bowl with Dan Campbell. Now, from what
I understand, Ben Johnson is not going to get a
Heroes welcome at Ford Field in Detroit courtesy of the
promise that Lion's receiver among Ross Saint Brown made. Apparently

(02:02:06):
he's calling for a chorus, a booze and expletives and
all kinds of things, and you can bet that'll happen.
They just will. But these are the matchups and part
of the reason that I think these are notable, intriguing
matches for me. Let's start with the Lions running backs
versus the Bears defense. Now, last year the Lions had

(02:02:29):
the top running back due and Jamier Gibbs and David Montgomery,
and they struggled mightily in Week one against Green Bay.
And now we have sort of added reference that this
Green Bay team might might be pretty damn good. Their
defense was already rounding into shape last year. They accumulated

(02:02:51):
all those draft picks in the first round on defense
and their coming of age. Now you add Micah Parsons,
and well you saw for yourself that the Packers not
only handled the Lions week one, they handled the Washington
Commanders Thursday night. And in Week one Jamior Gibbs and

(02:03:12):
David Montgomery only averaged two yards of parrot carry a
success rush rate and not great yard of d after
contact or even before contact. They ranked thirtieth among all things. Now,
this is why I want to watch. Was that just
it was because it was against the Green Bay Packers

(02:03:33):
and this was perhaps a bit of an outlier performance
against an extremely stout green Bay defense? Or is this
a sign of things to come? Now? I like the
Lions in this spot would not be surprised if they
cover the six haven't fired on it yet. But I
don't see a scenario where the Bears win the game.

(02:03:54):
I just don't and I think the Lions have an advantage.
They have a revamped offensive line, which was very much
plagued with some communication issues against Green Bay. But they've
had several days to clear that up, clean that up,

(02:04:16):
and they've dedicated that. It's my understanding the Lions have
had sort of dedicated their workouts and their focus on
addressing their running game, which was which was critical last year,
by the way, after Chicago's defense was completely gashed repeatedly, repeatedly,

(02:04:37):
repeatedly by Minnesota's Jordan Mason, who averaged about four yards
of carry after contact. This should really be a get
right game for Gibbs and Montgomery. I think you'll see
a whole different Lions team on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Bears, Yeah,
you could hit the panic meter, Okay. Ben Johnson's arrival

(02:04:58):
was supposed to spark this may you breakout for Caleb Williams,
and he had a flawless opening drive Monday night against
the Vikings. But we'll get to the rest of that
later in the end of the show. When I talk
about panic meter, and there's a few teams and a
few players, yeah, you should panic about Okay, there's a
long way to go in the season, but people don't

(02:05:19):
escape their nature. There's just something about this Caleb Williams
dude in his style of quarterback play. He's got all
the physical ability in the world, but you know, on
the NFL level, you've got to get rid of the ball.
It takes too long to get rid of the ball.
He likes to playoff schedule, and the longer the game
went on, the more he reverted back to his nature.
People don't escape their nature. That one play where he

(02:05:40):
ran around like a worlding Dervisi and stepped out of
bounds for firing the ball, that to me was metaphorical.
I mean, you might as well just queue up the
you know, the Benny Hill music on that one. So
I like the Lions, but it's again key matchups now,
the Falcons and the Vikings. To me, I am very
interested in. Vikings are currently a four and a half

(02:06:01):
point favorite. Kirk Cousins visits Minnesota. The irony is he
probably won't take a snap against his former team, the Vikings,
and it's interesting that that the Falcons chose to pay
Cousins and still draft Michael PENNOCKX junior and it's completely
in contrast to what they did in Minnesota. If you're

(02:06:25):
gonna take the rookie route, why not choose the surplus
value to plug roster leaks. And that's what the Vikings did.
You know, when the Vikings got going, it's a four
quarter game. I know people making speeches and how bad
JJ McCarthy looked the first three quarters in the Vikings.
So it's a four quarter game. He deserved to be
Player of the Week. The Vikings were able to sign

(02:06:47):
more core players like Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel
and Blake Cashman Aaron Jones because they're not breaking the
bank for a quarterback who's going to end up sitting
on the bench. But here's a key matchup again, it's
all about matchups in the NFL. Justin Jefferson versus the
Atlanta Falcon secondary now again rookie QB JJ McCarthy. He

(02:07:09):
relied heavily on Justin Jefferson last week, who saw the
ninth highest target share among all receivers in Week one.
And I think any concerns about people that had about j. J.
McCarthy were overblown. He's a leader, he's a winner, he's smart. Yes,
he had to acclimate. It never started an NFL game.

(02:07:31):
They threw right into the fire and Monday night football
in a highly charged situation. I always knew he had
that kind of armstring. People didn't know he could do
it at Michigan because he wasn't asked to. Michigan did
what they needed to do to win games, but every
time JJ McCarthy needed to come up with a throw,
he did, and he has that it factor. I expect

(02:07:56):
he'll lean heavily again on Justin Jefferson, as he should.
Falcons got a pretty good defensive backfield, but I think
the Vikings have the advantage. AJ Terrell one of the
Falcons cornerback. He had a very strong start in Week one.
He limited Mike Evans to only fifty one yards in
shadow coverage. Now, I would suspicion that AJ Terrell will

(02:08:19):
draw the assignment on Justin Jefferson for most of the game.
But don't expect that to slow down Justin Jefferson one
hundred percent. You're not going to. Since both Jefferson and
Terrell were drafted five years ago. In twenty twenty, Jefferson
has actually posted two hundred and ninety eight receiving yards
and four touchdowns in the two games against Atlanta, including

(02:08:40):
well thirty plus fantasy points in each game. Still, it's
a matchup to watch. I'm intrigued to see how JJ
McCarthy does it his second start, and how the Falcons
do after pulling out that win last week. Again, it's
an intriguing matchup. Finally, Monday Night Eagles and Chiefs. Now,

(02:09:03):
we've been kind of spoiled with football so far, and
now you get this weekend's Super Bowl rematch. Right, there's
an obvious matchup that once again is going to decide
this game. And you already know what it is because
I'm sure Patrick Mahomes saw these knuckleheads in his sleep.

(02:09:23):
All winner and that's the Eagles defensive line against the
Chiefs offensive line. Now, Jalen Carter, a spitting image of
Jalen Carter, is going to be back to the front
four that rock Mahomes and his three peat. Last February.
He missed virtually, well, he missed the entire Week one.

(02:09:46):
He didn't play snap we played well, Diddy, I don't know.
He was seven seconds into the game. He got into
this bidding contest. You know what happened. But Kansas City
is going to rely on a rookie tackle by the
name of Josh Simmons and you know, another repatched offensive
line to hold up. Okay, but if they hold up,

(02:10:06):
I expect a pretty good game out of Patrick Maholmes.
You don't know, though, I have to give the advantage
to the Eagles here. Why there are a couple of problems.
First again, as I said, the Chief's offensive line remains
a work in progress. Secondly, and every bit is important,
is that Mahomes is now without Exavier Worthy. I know
he may I don't know if actually forgive me, I

(02:10:28):
haven't read the latest injury report. They may gloo him
together and he may get out there. He's got a
separated shoulder that's going to hurt his catch radius. I
don't know if he can take a hit. He may
wear a brace. He may try to go no where
she Rice No Xavier Worthy, and Xavier Worthy was actually
the lone bright spot in the Super Bowl, if you recall,

(02:10:49):
going to make matters worse for the Chiefs. Eagles defensive
coordinator Vic Fangio has a defense. Well it's new, but
he's got dogs, and the Eagles just have this belief
that the way to be Kansas City is to smack
him in the mouth early and offen and keep it coming,

(02:11:12):
all right. And Patrick Mahomes admitted last year the reason
the Eagles slowed him down so much they've played Mahomes
has played the Eagles twice, lost to him twice. The
reason that the Eagles slowed him down, he says, quot
they did a great job of disrupting my timing. Look

(02:11:34):
at the numbers zero and two. The Chiefs only average.
The offense only averaged nineteen points per game in the
two games against the Eagles, completion percentage sixty percent, only
two hundred and seventeen yards passing per each game on
average through five touchdowns, and had four turnovers, four interceptions,
sacked seven times. And in case you missed it, if

(02:11:58):
you haven't been paying attention in the last thirty six games,
the Chiefs offense in point per game ranks sixteenth twenty
two point two points a game. They ranked eighteenth in
yards per play, They ranked twenty thirty in rush yards
per game. They ranked twenty seventh in big plays explosive plays,
and they ranked eighteenth. And their red zone touchdown percentage

(02:12:22):
those are not good factors when you line up against
an Eagles team that, frankly I expect to be a
hell of a lot more buttoned up than they were
opening a week against the Cowboys. Take nothing away from
the Cowboys. They gave an excellent effort and that was
a good ball game, and they covered the number. As
you recall, I liked the Cowboys plus eight and a half. Okay,

(02:12:45):
they covered big deal. Outward and upward. Monday Night's going
to be a lot of fun to watch. You know,
you've heard the stories over the years, the Chiefs a
dog at home. This is not the same Chiefs team.
It's just simply not you know that. And they're only
getting a point and a half. And I think the Eagles,
I joked earlier in the show, there's no such good
thing as a good loss. It's like a good kiddy stone. Well,

(02:13:08):
the Eagles won, and they'll take the w that's for sure,
But it was an ugly win. As Doug Brader used
to say, they were winning ugly. So the three notable
matchups for me, and there are lots of great games
on Sunday, Sunday Night and then the doubleheader Monday Night
football but the Bears and Lions really has my attention,
the Falcons and Vikings really has my attention, and the

(02:13:31):
Eagles and Chiefs absolutely is probably gonna have all of
our attention based on the factors I just gave. I
did not mention. I did not mention the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They hosted the Seahawks later on today, and I did
not mention Aaron Rodgers for Rogers. Looks like he's going

(02:13:54):
to operate the Pittsburgh offense and their coordinator, Arthur Smith
and that offense at a pretty high level actually, and
his willingness to do so is going to make for good,
you know, camaraderie with the Steelers. Now, his final statline
against the Jets look pretty good, and he seems to

(02:14:16):
have checked his ego with some of his preferences such as,
you know, a few emotions in play action. Maybe he
realizes he needs those easy button plays, especially when he's
forty one years old, and he's definitely playing the back nine.
I'm guessing this is going to be Aaron Rodgers last year.
Who knows, but you know, there ain't many left, let's

(02:14:39):
put it that way. So the question is, is Aaron Rodgers back.
I don't know if I want to go that far,
but I'll give you some thoughts on that coming up.
And again, it's only one game, but that's got my
attention as well. By the way, if you missed any

All right, we are back on the Bernie Frattle Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Come to live from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Just seven hours and thirty six

(02:15:43):
minutes away from another raucus NFL wee can you get
to see her? In Rodgers play? Is the uh.

Speaker 6 (02:15:50):
Is?

Speaker 2 (02:15:51):
The Pittsburgh Steelers take on the visiting Seattle Seahawks and
first impressions, well, Rogers seems like he operates Arthur's Meth's defense.
He's the offensive coordinator for the Steelers at a pretty
high level, and he's open minded. To me, he's more
team oriented this year, and he seems to be willing
to do it. And his final stat line against the

(02:16:13):
Jets look pretty good, and he seems to his check
his ego, and so is Aaron Rodgers well back. I
don't even know what that really means. I mean, I
know the last time he was out in Green Bay
twenty twenty one, he was an MVP, but it's been

(02:16:33):
pretty much downhill since. The stats in Green Bay in
twenty twenty two were not great. He had four total
snaps with the Jets in twenty twenty three before the
Achilles twenty twenty four was a nightmare, and now with
Pittsburgh one last fight at the Apple, Rogers seems very intent.
I'm not only proving his doubters wrong, but trying to

(02:16:56):
make a legitimate wrong with his team. Don't know about that,
but that get too far ahead of ourselves. Against the Jets,
Aaron Rodgers used play action on thirty three percent of
his plays, and he was six of eight for three touchdowns,
and that's his bread and butter, play action. But it
was only eight plays, okay, And so the fact that

(02:17:18):
his preference, even though you know he likes motion, he
likes play action, that's not necessarily a big part of
Arthur Smith's offense. Rogers is going, was seemingly going with
the flow. His other touchdown was a tap pass, which
is basically essentially a handoff. Now, before we go too crazy,
the truth of the matter is most of Aaron Rodgers'

(02:17:41):
passes were short. He only averaged six point or check that,
four point six air yards per play. That's not great.
That's not great. In the NFL, you should be around
eight or nine. You know what. The reason how they
get that stat is they take the number of passing
yards you accumulate and divide that by the number of attempts,
not number of completions. And the higher that that air

(02:18:06):
yards per play is an indicator of the fact that
you're able to keep your eyes down field, and you
may be checking down some of the time, but you're
still a very vertical threat. So four point six yards
per play not great. But Rogers got rid of the
ball extremely fast. Average two point six seconds time to

(02:18:28):
throw at forty one, that's about half the time that
Schador Sanders does. So that's serious. That's really good. The
Steelers gain their most yards after the catch per reception
in the league as well, seven point nine. Look, Rogers
can still make the throws, most of the throws, most

(02:18:50):
of the time. He still throws a real nice fadeball,
but so far we haven't really seen a willingness to
test the middle of the field. And the Steelers had
nine third down plays and Rogers on I think all
but one through the ball short of the sticks. That's

(02:19:13):
no bueno. You're even taught in high school. Find the
first down marker, run your route, catch the ball, make
a first down. They don't pay it a punt on
third down. They pay to get first downs. That's where
quarterback makes his bones. Third down, red zone, fourth quarter.
But third down is critical, all right. And this is

(02:19:34):
kind of revealing too, because either they're i won't say,
taking training wheels off the guys. The freaking guy's been
in the NFL what twenty years, but the vertical game
was not you know, anything to ride home about. So
on the nine third down plays, Rogers threw the ball
short of the sticks every time but one, and he

(02:19:57):
was actually sacked twice. Now that's not all on Rogers
because his left tackle, the blindside guy, Brodert Jones, was
beaten like a drum. But overall, overall, although the Steelers
got the win and there was some pluses, the Steelers
drop back passing game in terms of what you need

(02:20:19):
by NFL standards to be taken seriously, is a concern,
possibly a major concern. We'll see what Pittsburgh does later
on to day against Seattle and as the season grinds on.
The positive is Rogers actually can execute. This is not
his first barbecue. He can execute if they stay on

(02:20:41):
schedule and run the system. If they stand on schedule,
run the system, Yes, I think that should be enough
to get them into the playoffs. Why can't Pittsburgh go
ten and seven when they did it last year with
the tandem of Fields and Wilson and the year before
with all Right, shame on me the quarterback that's no

(02:21:05):
longer there. It doesn't matter, Okay. The question is, as
usual for Mike Tomlins team, is whether there'll be a
threat in the postseason. That's when the real acid test
will come. So there, there's where you take the question
regarding Aaron Rodgers. Is Aaron Rodgers back, Well, not gonna

(02:21:27):
be enough to win ten games. It's not gonna be
enough to just get into the playoffs for once. The
Steelers have to do something in the playoffs with Rogers,
like win a game, maybe win two games, And in
order to make that projection and feel confident about that prediction,
we're gonna need to see more from Rogers when the
offense gets thrown off schedule. But week one you'll take

(02:21:51):
the w Seattle's on deck in a few hours, we'll
see what they do with that. We covered all on
the Bernie Frowder Show, lots of football, especially over the
next twenty one weeks, will you starting later on the
day and next twenty one Sundays football every Sunday. We
also cover the other football you heard Doug, Doctor Doug

(02:22:13):
and our one apparently in North America. Will we know
that the World Cup's coming to North America in twenty
twenty six, coming to a city near you, including Seattle,
in which FIFA said they will not play a game
in that stadium if it's not on grass, so they'll
have to put in grass. When they're playing soccer or
football futbol and take it out when the NFL comes back.

(02:22:34):
The NFL is not real crazy about that, but I digress.
It's time Chris Perffett's World of Soccer.

Speaker 24 (02:22:42):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama. Hi,
it's all here in this ruck from the world of soccer.

Speaker 12 (02:23:02):
Welcome into the world of soccer.

Speaker 25 (02:23:03):
Let's start with the United States team who picked up
a two zero win over Japan, usually just right after,
of course, I lay into them.

Speaker 12 (02:23:12):
It always seems to happen. They go out and have
a good game.

Speaker 25 (02:23:14):
One thing to note is one thing I've been pounding
on the table for for a long time in the
world of soccer is that Flaren Bollogun should be in
the starting eleven. And he was, and he had a
goal in the sixty fourth minute before subbing out with
for Damien Downs.

Speaker 12 (02:23:28):
That's how you do it.

Speaker 25 (02:23:30):
That is a very good turnaround, and I enjoy seeing
Bollogun in the lineup. He is a rising star. He
really could be the focal piece for this team if
he continues to get more time and the rest of
this team gels around him. But we will see now
I don't usually talk a lot of women's soccer on

(02:23:51):
the World of soccer. That's a bit of a blind
spot for me. I don't follow the women's game as
closely as I do a lot of the club side
for men. I do know a lot of issues swirl
around the women's game, especially now. There has been several players,
including the great Alex Morgan, who have weighed in on

(02:24:11):
a matter that quite honestly I didn't even think was
too much of an issue, but has been swirling around
for a bit, and that is how to retain talent.

Speaker 2 (02:24:22):
Now.

Speaker 25 (02:24:23):
This is something of a something we've talked about with
MLS because, like MLS, NWSL National Women's Soccer League is
a salary capped sport, unlike most other soccer in the world. However,
unlike MLS, NWSL is kind of considered one of the top,

(02:24:43):
if the not top women's club league in the world
right now. It has been home to a tremendous amount
of talent. It has always been a few steps ahead
of its European counterparts when it comes to supporting women's clubs,
especially since a lot of those and say Europe have
to be tied to the hip to a men's club

(02:25:04):
such as Real Madrid or Chelsea. But we've seen in
the last few years the rising power and investment of
those European clubs into their women's teams, and it's starting
to become a bit of an issue to the point
where Alex Morgan spoke about it, where talent is slowly
starting to be drained from NWSL going over to places

(02:25:28):
like Chelsea and Real Madrid and Barcelona. And some of
those happen to play on the United States women's national team,
such as Naomi Germa, who transferred to Chelsea in January
for a one million dollar transfer fee. A twenty year
old Alyssa Thompson transferred from Angel City FC to Chelsea

(02:25:48):
as well this past week. And again always at the
core of this, at the forefront of this is the
fact that North American soccer leagues have a salary cap
in line with the NBA, the NFL, the NHL and
the rest of the world operates a lot more like baseball.
Now there are the financial fair play rules over in Europe,

(02:26:09):
but just by comparison, the NWSL salary cap in twenty
twenty five is three point five million, and that will
rise to five point one million by twenty twenty three.
By comparison, the MLS's base salary cap, which is kind
of a bit more of a confusing bug just because
of what they have for designated players, is around just

(02:26:32):
under six million.

Speaker 2 (02:26:34):
Now.

Speaker 12 (02:26:34):
There's a lot of consiserations.

Speaker 25 (02:26:35):
About why these numbers are there, but I feel like
in soccer in North America more than other sports, it's
there not as a competitive balance, but to keep make
sure that these clubs don't spend themselves into oblivion at times,
because we will see clubs sometimes overreach and get themselves
in trouble, and that's a that is a tail that

(02:26:56):
you can find across the lower levels of soccer in
say England. But I also think it's becoming a bit
of a stumbling block for NWSL. Again, I haven't looked
too terribly deep into the subject, but I do know
for powers like Chelsea and Real Madrid that they are
flush with enough capital that they could very easily eclipse

(02:27:18):
three point three million for their roster very easily and
thus pull away talent. And that's to say nothing about
women's specific clubs like London City Lionesses. It is suddenly
a lot more of a competitive game for women's talent
in Europe, and it's enough that I know multiple former
United States women's national team players have spoken about it

(02:27:39):
and call it a problem with the salary cap. The
fact that there are a lot of teams out there
who don't have to worry about it, who have more
money and they're not going to be constrained by situations
like a league trying to manage as many teams are
in the NWSL. Now, there is still, of course no
question in my mind at NWSL is one of the

(02:28:01):
top women's leagues in the world, but in this case,
where it's finally getting European clubs to sit up, pay
attention and give money to their women's teams, it might
be suffering from competitive success while not really having the
financial power to really keep up. The men's club soccer
side is back from the international break. The morning will

(02:28:24):
be punctuated at eleven thirty am Eastern Time the Manchester Derby,
the first of them between what is right now sixteenth
place on the table, Manchester City against eleventh place Manchester United.
Early in the season, MANU has four points, Manchester City
has three. Either way, this isn't exactly the Manchester Derby
of old, and neither of these teams are exactly in

(02:28:47):
the best of moods, so this could be a very
salty derby. I'm trying to think of any reason to
really watch this one versus a lot of the other
soccer games out there.

Speaker 12 (02:28:57):
But we'll see you next time on the World of Soccer.

Speaker 2 (02:29:01):
There you have it, World of Soccer, and as the
year rolls on, and as we head into twenty twenty six,
it will pick up steam because twenty twenty six is
a World Cup year, and that's what launched this feature
in the first place, was the World Cup. Coming up,
we wrap up the show and we delve into a
subject that is relevant. How worried should you be about

(02:29:27):
certain teams the certain players after Week one? In other words,
how big is the panic meter? I'll give you my opinions.
Coming up, Hi, Bernie fraddle Wire, come to your line
from Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Don't go away
or listening to the Bernie Fraddles Show on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, wrap it up on the Bernie Frattle Show.

(02:29:49):
Much thanks to our producers Mark and Brianna. We are
now seven hours and sixteen minutes away from NFL Week
two and there's a thing we call the panic meter,
because after Week one you form first impressions, and sometimes
those impressions are justified, sometimes they're not. One bad game

(02:30:13):
to start the year could sometimes be all it takes
for a team just you know, to sap out any
optimism whatever had been built up during the offseason. Now,
I get it. Patience is always key, right, there's no
diat I mean there have been teams zing two that
made the playoffs, won the Super Bowl, teams owing three,

(02:30:33):
even at San Diego Chargers team back in nineteen ninety
two lost their first four games and still came back
to go to the playoffs. Patience right, Well, if you're
if patience is a virtue, then Dolphins fans are virtue
alsos because on a scale of one to five, they're
panic meters of five, it's a ten. Everything about the

(02:30:58):
Dolphins in the offseason, heading into the season, and observing
the very embarrassing blowout to the Colts Week one only
amplifies the concerns by a factor of what ten. Everything
about the Dolphins fell off heading into the season, and

(02:31:20):
it's because the offensive line wasn't any better than it
looked on paper. And this underwhelming performance, and now the
Dolphins are dealing with multiple injuries, and you know, people
were concerned about their secondary that was confirmed. They allowed
Daniel Jones to throw for nine point four yards per attempt,
his best mark in four years. More than anything else, though,

(02:31:42):
what happened to Mike McDaniel's creative offense. It's gone dormant.
He has no CounterPunch for any adjustments that opponents seem
to make against him. And I've always been a to
a guy I like tatage of a low. He looks lost.
The Dolphins are on a fast track during you know,
through a fire sale that the trade deadline, right, I

(02:32:06):
always bugged me to talk about. You know, tank for
two would suck for luck. How does that work out?
It never seems to work out. But if the Dolphins
don't watch it, they're gonna be a sneaky contender for
the number one overall pick. That's just the way it
is now.

Speaker 5 (02:32:18):
I know.

Speaker 2 (02:32:19):
Having said that, I'm on the Dolphins later today at
home against the New England Patriots because I think they're
gonna beat the Patriots. We'll see, don't do it because
I did it. I'm just telling you where I put
my money, I did. There are multiple reasons why. There
are technical factors, and it's been my observation the Northeast

(02:32:39):
teams come down to Florida in early September, mid September,
and that they wilton that South Florida September heat. I
even saw it happened to Brady and the Patriots when
he was on the team. So I like the Dolphins,
but it's time to panic. They can change that, but
they're gonna have to do it on the field. Another
panic meter. I'll give this a seven on a scale

(02:33:01):
of one to ten. Caleb Williams Ben Johnson coming to
Chicago was supposed to spark this major breakout for Caleb Williams. Now,
if you judge him on the opening drive Monday Night
against the Vikings, you're dancing in the aisles. It seemed
like that's exactly what might be happening. Sometimes the light

(02:33:26):
at the end of the tunnels an oncoming train, isn't it.
The rest of the game looked like a train wreck.
The Bears look like a drunk cross of a nicy street.
Caleb Williams is a former number one overall pick. He
finished the opener with eight incompletions charted as inaccurate passes
means he just flat out missed guys, the worst among

(02:33:47):
all quarterbacks in Week one according to Pro Football Focus. Now,
I acknowledge that Caleb Williams has a lot of talent.
Talent only takes you so far, and I'm not going
to write off a guy with talent like that early
in the second season. And this is essentially the first game.

(02:34:11):
Having the support of a competent coaching staff and the
Vikings defense poses a challenge. Steven veteran quarterbacks, right, and
good quarterbacks. Yes, Williams has arm talent, Yes he can
be creative, and yes he has elite athleticism. That doesn't
necessarily make you a star at this level. You've got

(02:34:34):
to refine your timing. Within Ben Johnson's offense, it's about
scheme and adaptability, and he's got to be a lot
more accurate. Now, there's nowhere to go but up with
Caleb Williams, and maybe he'll take some meaningful steps as
this season goes on. But if you consider this, if

(02:34:54):
you continue to see the same types of issues with
Caleb Williams as we get into November, Let's say you
got a major problem. If you've got a major problem
because they're a play Look at how buttoned up cam
Ward looked. He stepped right off the campus at Miami.

(02:35:15):
He's Tennessee starting quarterback. He looks like he belongs. Bryce
under was the same way with Michigan. No matter what
is it for, these guys belong. Caleb Williams. I'm just
not seen that you're not either. He's improvisational. He likes
playground football. That doesn't work at the National Football League.
Can you panic? Yeah? Sorry, I'm paid to have opinions.

(02:35:36):
In my opinion is it's time to panic with this guy.
Proved me wrong. It starts Sunday in Detroit. We'll see
what he does now. I think the Houston Texans are
a good team. Two years ago they were an up
and coming good team. Last year they were a good team.
I don't know if they've peaked or they're even going
the other way. There's been nothing but good vibes around

(02:35:56):
the Texans, and their offense is past offseason. They brought
in a new offensive coordinator that was supposed to bring
optimism because last season was a little frustrating. So Nick
Cayley takes over and his system. You know, if they
can clean up their issues in pass protection, there's reason
to believe that C. J. Stroud would get back to

(02:36:18):
the player he was two years ago. Combine that with
a dominant defense, and all of a sudden, Houston maybe
is a legitimate contender. That was all theoretical, and that's
all logic on paper. They didn't score a single touchdown
under season opening loss. That's not the best way to
inspire confidence. Their offensive line resembled last year's unit too much.

(02:36:39):
The yielded pressure on almost fifty percent of CG. Stroud's dropbacks. Still,
one game against a good pass rush by the Rams
does not a season make. Don't go into full scale panic.
I'll give you a five out of ten panic. Stroud
looked good when he faced pressure. He's eight of eleven
for seventy nine yards, and he wasn't shy about taking
off as a runner. Probably a matter of time before

(02:37:02):
Nico Collins gets going, and maybe this offense can take off. However,
houston ceiling is going to be capped if their offensive
line doesn't make meaningful improvements. That's a very much wait
and see situation. Everything in football is blocking and tackling.
The rest of details. I'm a big Bryce Young fan.

(02:37:22):
I was a fan at modern day fan at Alabama.
This is supposed to be Bryce Young's breakout campaign. Again,
He's an also a number of former number one campaign
Excuse me. He was supposed to take a major step
in the right direction. He got bench briefly last year,
but came back and flashed a lot of great playmaking

(02:37:42):
traits that made him the kind of exciting prospect he
was coming out of Bama. From Week twelve through the
end of the season, Young was tied with Patrick Maholmes
for thirteenth best performance by EPA dropback. Now he's in
year two in Dave Canal's offense, you assumed he'd grow,
but Sundy's open was a crucier reminder that well development

(02:38:04):
improvement isn't always on a straight line. The Jaguars have
a suspect defense. Bryce Young couldn't take advantage. He only
completed eighteen to thirty five for one point fifty four
and a touchdown in two interceptions. I still think Bryce
Young could be a good quarterback in this league, but
now's the time to get the ball rolling because you

(02:38:24):
can panic. Finally, the Bengals, the Bengals narrowly avoided another
Week one disaster. They barely edged the Browns seventeen to sixteen.
On one hand, a win is a win is a win.
Cincinnati opens the year with the victory only the second
time in Zach Taylor's seven seasons. On the other hand,
it's kind of tough to convince yourself that legitimate contender
would look that bad against the Browns. Now. The defense

(02:38:48):
dominated the conversation around Cincinnati through the off season, but
it was the offense that struggled. In Cleveland. Only the
Titans manage few yards in the Bengals in Week one,
Bengals had one hundred and forty one yards. You got
