Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Frottle. We are
coming toy line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. Take you up to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern as usual, We've got an absolute jam
pack show. Might this be a November to Remember in
(00:25):
college football? Now it's become survive in advance, like tom
as I used to say. And you know, I understand
that the committee at some point claims to have you know,
they reserve the right to have the eye test influenced
their decisions. But at the end of the day, they
(00:46):
don't ask Cole just how many how many games did
you win? And how many games did you lost? Did
you lose?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Today was a little bit of a whole home day
in college football except for one game. I mean, my god,
if you wake up on the West coast and you
know you got a basically a nine am kickoff at
Fox Big Noon Saturday, they were out in Iowa. But
I gotta tell you this Indiana penn State game was
abute because it started out. It started out well, you
(01:23):
had a situation where you know, they always have these
sideline reporters ask coaches questions, and I mean I think
the coaches would rather, you know, have three root canals
before doing any of this, but most of them go
along with it. Over the years, There's been a few debacles.
I've ever Lloyd Carr bagging on him, and Greg Popovich
has never been too friendly. But so Kurt Signetti comes
(01:44):
out of the tunnel and the reporter asked him, what
are you concerned about today? There's nothing concerns me. We
gotta go out and it's time to time to go
to battle. And well, you know, in Indiana, team's never
won here at Penn State. Well, this team has never
played here at Penn State. Actually a very good response,
because both were right. Even though the Hoosias had never
won at Beaver Stadium, this version of Indiana ate the
(02:07):
same program that holds the FBS record wait for it, yeah,
for most all time losses. This one's got two dudes.
A wide receiver that will be competing on Sundays, two
cornerbacks that will be competing on Sundays. A quarterback who's otherworldly.
I believe in his ability to be great when the
moment demands greatness. Fernanda Mendoza, go ahead, book your trip
(02:31):
to the Heisman ceremony in December. You're going to be
there if you're not. Somebody's first in line for a
frontal a botomy. This is a star, a human being
in every respect, the way he talks, the way he
conducts himself, the way he delivers the biggest moment of
the season in the game's dying minutes, when the heat
is hot it's hard to breathe seemingly completely unbothered by
(02:54):
a four point deficit in a very hostile road environment.
I'm not sure why cow I let him out, but
they did eighty yards in a minute, in fifteen seconds,
making multiple big time throws and give you again. Charlie
Becker made an incredible catch. He was well covered and
set up Indiana deep in Penn State territory. But then
that everybody will forget that because of what Omar Cooper did,
(03:18):
channeling his inner Mikhail Barishnikoff as he danced along the
goal line, in the end line, in the end zone
and won. Take a bow, my friend. It's the catch
of the year. It may be one of the greatest catches.
The last time I heard a nation collectively gasped. Was
probably Doug Flutie to Gerard Fhalen Notre Dame, Boston College,
nineteen eighty four. Google at your knuckleheads. Unreal, They've only
(03:40):
showed it in a million highlights. But this was a
catch of the year. This secured the win for Indiana,
keeping them perfect on the campaign. And it looked like
this game. I may have actually got to Kurtzy Netty
just a little bit because he admitted he'd never seen
anything like that in his career. However, used to it,
Indiana fans something else, you know, you don't really see
(04:04):
a lot of that I can remember. And that is
a top ten matchup in Lubbock, Texas. But I'll tell
you what, give it up to Texas Tech. This is
a new era Texas Tech team as well. God bless
Mike Leech. He's long gone and he's no longer with us,
but his memory lives. But it's been fifteen years since
(04:25):
Texas Tech played a game like the kind of meaning
that it had Saturday in Lubbock, and boy did the
answer to the call ten point favorites over BYU were
never in trouble, completely dominated the Texas Tech defense. I
didn't know it was this dominant. I may have underrated
how excellent they are. By you entered the game with
(04:46):
the nation's fourteenth ranked rushing attack, could only manage a
little over two yards to carry, ran for sixty seven yards,
and by you could do nothing on third down. They'll
byu to fourth or four for seventeen in those situations,
got off the field with ease. By the way, Jacob
Rodriguez may have become a household name for Texas Tech.
(05:08):
Fourteen tackles, one tackle for lost, picked off a pass,
had a fumble recovery. Other than that, not much. Final
score twenty nine to seven and Texas tex Texas Tech
completely flat. Mccouver's Oregon took care of Iowa again. Another
another close game, but not a Oregon. Excuse me, not
(05:28):
not a you know a result that's gonna surprise a
lot of people. Let's used. You know that offense couldn't
score with you know, women's prison with a fist full
of fifties. Bama holds serve again UH and Texas A
and m SO. I think the best four teams are
are Oild State, Indiana, Texas A, and M Probably Alabama,
but Texas Tech's really got my got my uh or attention,
(05:53):
even though they have one loss. But you know what
I really want to talk about. I really observe Penn
State today, and there there are ten teams, ten schools,
maybe even more good jobs out crazy jobs Florida, LSU,
Oklahoma State. I can't even think of them all right
now schools that are looking for head coaches. One certainly
(06:15):
is Penn State. And I'm going to come off the
top rope here and I am going to strongly suggest
to the Penn State brass you seriously consider Terry Smith.
You're a current Penn State interim coach. And before you
drive off the road or ask you if ive you know,
gotten into Grandpa's coff suerup, hear me out. You know,
(06:38):
back in nineteen sixty five, Penn State had a coach
by the name of Rip Engle. He's been there fifteen years,
one hundred and four games, and decided to step down.
And Penn State was in a bit of a quandary,
but they decided to take this little assistant on their
staff who no one had really ever heard of. He'd
come over from Brown University actually worked for Rip Engle
(06:58):
at Brown University god with the name of Joe Paterno.
Joe Paturna was an assistant on staff and he got
hired in nineteen sixty six and I believe spent about
forty six years there. I know how it ended. We
don't need to revise that history. But let's face it,
Joe Paterno, Joe pa had one time had a statue.
(07:19):
Now James Franklin has gone and he won the same
amount of games that rip Eingle did one hundred and four.
And you're gonna hear all the uh, the usual candidates.
I mean, somebody threw Urban Myer's name out there last week.
Don't plump me on that one. I don't have anything
to do with that one. I'll go to my grave.
I know what happened to Michigan State two years ago
(07:39):
when he visited East Lansing. If you don't believe me again,
get yourself a goal compress. But I don't think he
has any interest in Penn State. You know thin you
can hear about Joe Brady and Matt Campbell and Clark
Lee from Vanderbilt, and Brian Hartline and Manny Diaz. Although
many das lost the Yukon today, gave it up to
Jim Mora yukon good football team, Good football team, Brent
Key at Georgia Tech and other coach Mike Elco. You
(08:02):
think he'd really leave Texas A and M I don't
know why I would do that. He doesn't have he's
coach roots, I get it, but he's pretty stilt at
Texas A and M Jeff Brohm. Well they got beat
by Calladay, Eli drink Winz. So they got beat today.
So anybody you replace, I mean, and then Matt Rule
is no longer being considered because he's already sat in an
(08:22):
extension and so do the aforementioned hurt signetty. So why
not instead of you know, goofing around and going through
this big, long process revolving to a process, you might
have a guy right on your staff. Give him a
three year deal. I think players will stay with the program.
(08:44):
They play hard from this guy. I've listened to him
in interviews. He's got deep Penn State ties. I'm talking
about Terry Smith. He's a former wide receiver played there
four years, eighteen seven and ninety one. His nickname was Superfly.
He's a well regarded assistant. He's been on the coaching
staff twelve years, including as an associate head coach, So
there's going to be none of these candidates and understand
(09:05):
the program's culture and traditions currently better than Terry Smith.
By the way, as a defensive recruiting coordinator, Terry Smith's
been absolutely instrumental in securing twelve consecutive top twenty five
recruiting classes for Penn State. You think that might help
stabilize recruiting during the transition to a new head coach.
(09:26):
He's also proven his medal as a way above average
at excellent position coach. He's had a proven track record
of developing NFL talent at the cornerback position. None of
his players since twenty fifteen have been drafted. He also
has an act for building deep, strong relationships with many
players on the current roster, so that could help retain
(09:49):
talent and provide stability. There are turbulent times in Penn
State right now. You really want to bring someone in.
I get it that Matt and Rule play there a
long time, but he's not coming anyway. But think about this,
Just think about it, Penn State. I told you how
you ended up with Joe Pertno. I know there are
arguments against Terry Smith has very limited head coaching experience. Frankly,
(10:11):
his only head coaching experience came at Gateway High School.
I believe Gateway High schools in Florida. I think he
won one hundred and one games in eleven seasons. But
guess who also never had any head coaching experience got
by the name of Don Shula. You can even do
the job or you can't now because Penn State is
(10:33):
in the midst of incredible turbulence. I know that people
are going to use his inexperience against him, but might
that be a positive? He's gonna come in. He's already
there and he might be in experienced at the head
coaching position, but he's not inexperienced in knowing his way
(10:56):
around Penn State. And why do I say that works
for him? Because he doesn't bring in someone else's habits
from another school that players are going to have to
adapt to. And you watch players hit them if they
don't hire Terry Smith. Watch some players hit the transfer board.
Watch it. Okay, he took over a very unenviable situation
following the firing of James Franklin, and then he loses
(11:18):
quarterback Drew Aller. It's going to be challenging for him
to get this job and even just finish out the
regular season with dignity, although I thought they did with
dignity on Saturday. And I know people want to say, well,
you don't know what his game to impact is. He
was a position coach and a recruiter, but how's he
going to be in his strategic decision making and leadership.
(11:41):
I thought I saw enough of that these last two
or three games. I like the way Terry Smith carries himself.
So I'm looking at you, Patcraft, he's the ad at
Penn State. I know you're monitoring how Smith's leadership and
How's coaching, you know, is having an effect on the
team's relative performance. But you can't not see that his
(12:04):
ability to at least stabilize the program and demonstrate these
players are playing hard for him and competing against tough
competition that should be crucial. That should be crucial in
determining who you know, you who you will hire as
the permanent head coaching position. Just my two cents. It's
(12:25):
been done before, you know, years ago, when rich Bassacia
took over a terrible situation here in Las Vegas, for
the Raiders, got the team to the playoffs and should
have beaten Cincinnati if Derek Carr had been throwing interceptions
and spiking the ball in fourth down. I said, give
this guy some time. There was a there was an
interim coach the Raiders hired many years ago. God in
(12:48):
the name of Art shall believe he's in the Hall
of fame. Well, Bisaci moved on, and how's it worked out? Since?
Not so much? Not so much. You're on her third
coach already. So the truth of the matter is, you
can look at a guy's resume, but sometimes you know
lots of people are going to come in with the
same process. But I feel like Terry Smith as the
(13:10):
principles and the knowledge and the genuine understanding of the
culture what Pennsylvania State University football is, and based on
what I've seen, he deserves a shot. They should seriously
consider Terry Smith as the next head coach of penn
State football. They be sure to subscribe to you the

knowledge of NFL referees and their tendencies is par excellence.
Writes for the magazines, work for Warren Sharp, and we'll
get into the Sunday NFL slate from the referee perspective,
because these guys have their own tendencies as well, and

All right, back of the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
coming to live for the Fox Sports Radio steers here
in Vegas. Just get started. We'll take you after three
am Pacific, six am Eastern's welcome and a gentleman who's
been a fixture on this show because in this day
and age of analytics, statistics, statisticians, dan leers, and all
the above, well, even referees now figure into the mix
(15:33):
because they have tendencies just like umpires who call balls
and strikes. And this gentleman has voted a great amount
of time to researching those tendencies and understanding the habits,
as it were, of all the referees working. It's welcome
in Joe Gibbs of NFL ref Stats, Hey, Joe, how
are you buddy?
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Doing good?
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Bernie?
Speaker 2 (15:53):
How are you good?
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (15:55):
We had you on before the season, and now we're
to the halfway points, so I'm sure you've got even
more data right now, and I want to go backwards.
I'm going to start with the last game on the slate,
which is Monday night, because it'll probably be considered the
biggest matchup of all. Green Bay currently a one and
a half point home favorite to the Philadelphia Eagles, the
(16:16):
defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, and the crew has some Tennessee Tennessees,
you know, headed by Clay Martin. So share with us
what we might expect out of this crew.
Speaker 8 (16:30):
Okay, so off the top, it's not a good home
field referee home teams for his career is forty eight
sixty four and three against the spread forty three percent.
These guys place a major focus in a couple of areas,
primarily the key combination of false start and offensive holding penalties.
They're the highest percentage of those penalties called over the
last three seasons at forty four percent. And the reason
(16:54):
that's important the Packers have really struggled this season with
that combination of false start offensive holding combination. Forty six
percent of the package penalties have come ya those two penalties.
That's compared to the league average, it's thirty eight point
one percent.
Speaker 9 (17:08):
Now.
Speaker 8 (17:09):
The Eagles, conversely, just thirty two percent of those penalties.
Well thirty two percent of the penalties come by those
two categories. So now some may say the Eagles get
away with it quite a bit. I'm just giving you
the numbers. There's a distinctive Vanda chief of Philadelphia with
the Claymont and Crew officiating on Monday Night.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
This is interesting too, because you know, you don't call
a lot of pass interference penalties that you know gives
Philadelphia free license a lot, a lot to do with. Also,
they've got some new defensive reinforcements, as you say, some
trades they made so and I think you also pointed
out Joe, the Eagles have kind of had the Packers
(17:47):
number in recent seasons.
Speaker 8 (17:50):
Well, yeah, there were two and zero lost season they
went in there on Landbeau or I think it was
twenty nineteen. I wrote up about it this week. Actually
Claimont was the referreverw that night. The Eagles with three
and a half point underdogs. One I m one out right.
I think it was like thirty two to twenty eight
or something like that. I just trust Philadelphia more. I
like Green Bay a lot. And I've been on multiple
shows and said I think the Packers best is as
(18:11):
good as anyone's best. The public missige just don't see
it very often. It's like it's like Bigfoot. You see
a glimpse of it here and there. But I mean
he sorto. We saw two weeks ago in the second
half against the Steelers, like that was the Packers at
their absolute best. But we may not see that again
this year. I trust Philly Moore. I trust them in
the trenches. They're off to buy. They're fouring off the
(18:31):
buyer and the Nick Ciriani era, And like you said,
they've had defensive reinforcements, fire some trades. You know Howie
Rosen is a master are getting getting the right pieces
on that team and making that run down the stretch.
I like the Eagles a lot on Monday Night.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Well you look, green Bay's five two and one, and
I like the Eagles too, So I'm not so sure
that green Bay. Everybody's still sort of dizzy about what
they did to Detroit week one, but that's a long
time ago. I want to jump to Seattle. This is
an interesting game. He got a big healthy number here,
the Seahawks laying seven and a half, and I had
(19:08):
noticed two or three weeks ago. You know, Arizona's defense
is good, it's it's better than average, but they're actually
better offensively with Jacoby Brissett. Seattle's a tough place to
play at home. But you know, Alan ck Is is
a referee I'm not real familiar with. Talk about how
the home teams do under him.
Speaker 8 (19:30):
Yes, Allen X, he's something he stood he beginning twenty
twenty three as the head referee. So we're only going
to forty games sample saw us. He used to keep
that in mind. But this guy's a hell of a
home field referee. Here are the numbers since his first
game in twenty twenty three home teams twenty eight and
twelve straight up seventy percent, twenty four and sixteen against
the spread sixty percent. This divisional home teams that Seattle
(19:52):
is tomorrow eight and two straight up and six and
four against the spread in Allen X's career. So the
numbers trying to speak to themselves. Excellent home field advantage crew.
And the thing is Alan eck came from the John
Hassey crew, and anybody who's followed me knows that Hussey
is the best home field referee over many, many, many seasons.
Speaker 10 (20:10):
So ECK is.
Speaker 8 (20:11):
Essentially a continuation of what John Hosky's crew does. And
the numbers, you know, the numbers detail that I kind
of agree with you. I like the Condinells team a lot.
I mean, if you look at a team what they need,
Arizona has it. They have the left tackle, they have
a good pass for us, they have a great tight end,
great wide receiver too, good defensive backs sol though Will
Johnson will be out tomorrow. Jacobe Brissett. Look, he's a
(20:33):
solid player, but he there's a limit on what he
can do. So look, those are the numbers. The Seahawks
definitely have an officiating advantage tomorrow and it's a tough
place to play Arizona coming in off a short week,
so we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
So again, it's I know he's a good alan ACKs
favorite will the home teams, but that's Steven has a
big number of the visual game to be So do
you get a feeling the Seahawks. This Seahawks win the game,
but Arizona can hang that number.
Speaker 8 (21:03):
Yeah, I predicted twenty seven to twenty three. I mean
when I looked at it during the week, I think
was six has gone through seven. I think it's like
you said, seven and a half and some spots. Now,
I like the Coginals team I'm really doing in pretty
much every game this year. If you look at that record,
like they come down to that one position late. Unfortunately
for them, they've been on the wrong side of it.
But they're a good team to again, We'll see what
(21:25):
happens tomorrow. That's why they play the games, all right.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
Talking with Joe Gibbs NFL ref Stats, he's a devoting
really a great percentage of his time into assembling and
analyzing the types of penalties referees call their pendencies, whether
it's defense, offense, special teams, holding, false starts, pass interference,
et cetera. This game's got me intrigued. It's his Sunday
(21:51):
nine game, the Chargers playing two and a half against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh looking sharp off their big home win last week,
bringing any Napolis back to earth. You got Brad Rodgers here.
He likes to blow the whistle a lot. What are
your thoughts about Brad Rodgers.
Speaker 8 (22:08):
Yeah, so you're damn right about that. And here's the thing.
His crew assessed seventy five percent of their penalties via
offense and special teams. That's well abobb. The league averaged
about sixty four point nine percent on those two categories.
So these guys go above and beyond on like I said,
offense and special teams. And that shapes up as a
problem for the Charges because their offensive special teams this
(22:30):
year count for seventy percent of the team's overall penalties
compared to just fifty two percent the steals. The steals
are super efficient offensively Rodgers. There changes the whole dynamics
of that team. They ranked thirtieth in offensive penalties per
game the only important false start offensive hole combination. Rodgers
ranked second in penalty per game in those two And
(22:51):
the charge of that issue is on the offensive line
this year, which is kind of to be expected. And
I think that's going to be a problem tomorrow. And
I because Rashawn fled has been out the whole season
and now Joe Oldi's out he got in the second
half league against the Titans.
Speaker 11 (23:04):
Yeah, that's huge.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
I mean, Jim Harbor said it himself in the off season.
Other teams look at wide receivers as weapons. He looked
at these tackles as weapons. He goes those are weapons.
Those guys set the tone for the entire team. We've
got good guys on the left and guys on the
right tackle, and they're gonna set the tone what these
guys have gone now, and you've got a Pittsburgh team
that's coming in. They found the mojo last week. Surfi
(23:27):
Stadium is going to be ninety percent Steelers fans. It's
just going to be Chargers don't have as many fans
to begin with, so it's going to it's going to
essentially be a home game for the Steelers. Charges offensive
lines reshuffled. I like the Steelers again tomorrow. I like
the I like the dog here I say the road dog,
but I'd say they're the home dog. I like the
Steelers outright and kind of a grinding out sort of game.
(23:49):
You know, you've got Mike Common versus Jim Harbor, and
you got offensive coordinators Greg Roman and Arthur Smith. These
guys aren't looking to blow anyone out. It's going to
be a grinding sward of game. So taking the points
to the Steelers is the way I'd look.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Well, and not for nothing, if memory serves, the Steelers
are the least penalized team in the NFL. To me,
that matters because let's say a team gets eighty yards
and penalties a game, that's like given the other team
eighty yards of offense. So does that during your prediction
as well the fact that Pittsburgh is I believe the
(24:23):
least penalized team in the league.
Speaker 8 (24:25):
Yeah, there's different ways you can do it. People look
at total penalties. I do the penalties per game, but
they're in the bottom five and it's where you commit them. Like,
committing penalties is not necessarily a bad thing. I talked
to some of the teams about this, that committing penalties,
if you're on defense on a say first and ten
and you commit a defensive holding, that's actually a smart
thing to do. So they can be misleading. But the Packers,
(24:48):
I mean sorry, the Steelers offense has been super efficient
with Rogers, like I said, the thirtieth and penalties per
game average, so they don't get behind the change too much,
and they really can't afford to because they're not explosive.
Explosive and to become those you know, full start off
into holding penalties. And I think that'll play a big
part of it tomorrow night. Given their records, so about
this season with Rogers in charge.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
So Joe, we talked about Alan Eck and Seattle being
very favorable to home teams. Land Clark is actually very
favorable to road teams. The Rams visit San Francisco Sunday
five and a half point favorites. I got to tell you,
home divisional dogs this year have been absolute nails. How
(25:34):
does land Clark in his career and his style and
tendencies perhaps favor one of these teams on Sunday since
historically land Clark it seems to be favorable to road teams.
But man, is that baked into the number here?
Speaker 11 (25:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (25:51):
I don't know if I was making a bit. I
don't know if to make it even I who Land
clock is, but I do and I can tell you
the numbers right now. So for his career home teams,
thirty four fifty one and two against the just fourty
against the spread. That's the second work over the last
five five years. That includes two and five against the
spread this season. So this guy likes to play the villain.
He's kind of like Sean Hockeyley. So you know that's
(26:14):
just those are the numbers with that the Niners all
time with Lane Clark are one to three, including zero
to two straight up and against the spread when they're
play at home. The Rams are one to zero on
the road all time with Lang Clark. They're not a
huge sample size, but those are the numbers. Again, these
guys are above and beyond the setising penalties via offense
and special teams seventy percent of their penalties. And that
(26:34):
is big because the RAMS ranks is the least penalized
offensive unit in the NFL so far this season, and
that's huge with a crew like this that looks to
call those offensive holding false starts, legal shift stuff like that.
The Rams are super efficient. Mcveigh's teams always have been,
and so this year is no different. They're just taking
it to a different level. Also, the Rams are number
(26:55):
one beneficiary of automatic first downs via penalty. By that,
I mean you know, getting those defensive pass interferes call
the legal contact, defensive holding calls. These guys get a
lot of cheap oddage via big plays down the field. Now,
Clark's crew doesn't call as many of those defensive penalties
as most and so something has to give that tomorrow.
But you gotta bang up forty nine as defense. I
(27:16):
like the Rams in this one. I like them to
avenge that Thursday night loss which was inexpl inexplicable back
in I think it was like Week five.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Yeah, Shanhan always gets up for the Rams. But there
is one factor in this game. I think there's gonna
be points, Joe. From what I understand land Clark, you
really can't touch the quarterback if you're in a land
Clark game because you're either gonna be a roughing passer
or unnecessary of roughness.
Speaker 8 (27:43):
Yeah, these guys they ranked I think they ranked second
run this year in roughings, and they've always consistently ranked
highly for unnecessary roughness. Now that dog back on that
this year, but they picked up the slack with the
roughing apostle holes as you mentioned. So yeah, these guys
are big on those two categories, one way or the other.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Talking with Joe Gibbs NFL Refs Stats, Joe, let's jump
to the Minnesota Ravens game, another home dog. Both teams
looked pretty good last week. Minnesota looked very good. I thought,
really surprised me the way they strolled into Detroit and
took care of business. Now they are hosting a very
hungry Baltimore Ravens team who has designs on not only
(28:23):
getting back into the playoff hunt, but perhaps even even
winning their division. They will be the game will be
refereed by the aforementioned Sean hockey Ley. What are your
thoughts about this contest in Minnesota.
Speaker 8 (28:37):
Yeah, well, Hockey's pretty much managed to run a foul
of every team and every fan base in his career US.
I mean, he really has. And now the only positive
here is not a prim time game, so I went,
you want to look for as much camera time. But
having said that, the bunkings of one team that has
a good record with Hockey le the bunkers of five
and zero all time with Shoran hockey Ley. That's a
(28:58):
small family size, but I thought I put that in there.
But in generally he's not a good home field referee
home teams is just forty three percent against the spread
in his career. Again, he's another one where big focus
on that combination of offense and special teams penalties. Special
teams penalties are up this year significantly versus previous years
because of that new Kypoff rule and Hockey Leagu's crew
(29:21):
co ranked number one in special teams penalies per game,
so keep that in mind for tomorrow. That generally leads
to less than ideal starting field position, and the Vikings
have struggled with special teams penalties this season. So a
bunch of other stuff with Hockey League. I mean, look,
everyone knows this guy that, or they don't know him that.
They've seen him on a lot of these games on
prime time, really getting in front of the cameras and
(29:43):
poking it up for that. But you know, it's the
same old thing with him. Unnecessary rough They ranked number
one for legal contact ineligible man down field. I like
Baltimore in this game. Minnesota hasn't won back to back
games this season, you know that that yet to put
together two wins in a row. And I had to wonder,
I was last week an outlier or was that the
sign of things to come? Whereas Baltimore, I trust, Lamar's
(30:06):
record against the NFC is well documented. I mean, I
like Baltimore in this spot. Not being high on Baltimore
for a couple of years, and I do like him tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Do you think they cut Baltimore covers the four and
a half?
Speaker 8 (30:19):
Yeah, I do. I mean, I said, you know, twenty
eight twenty three, somewhere in that range, you know, thirty
to twenty four. I think it's going to be a
little bit high scoring. But yeah, in the end, I like,
I look pretty trust J. J. McCarthy or Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 12 (30:34):
I mean J. J.
Speaker 8 (30:35):
McCarty's had one and a half good games in his career.
Well one in the quarter because he had a good
Monday night game against the Bed the last quarter. He
had a solid game last week. But that's really it.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Well, you're not wrong, but the game, the matchup I'm
looking at is what is the Brian Florence, the defensive
coordinator for Minnesota, what defensive scheme does he dial up
against the Ravens to keep Yeah, any Jackson in check?
Speaker 11 (30:59):
Is he doesn't?
Speaker 5 (31:00):
He has experience?
Speaker 8 (31:01):
Like that's the thing. Florence has experience against Lamark because
he used to be the defensive coordinator for Pittsburgh. So
there is that angle lere. Look, I've been high in
Baltimore for a couple of years now and then back
to full health. You know, there's an old thing in football,
and id you say it, Bernie, It's not who you play,
it's when you play them. And unfortunately in Minnesota. They
they're playing. They're playing Baltimore at the worst possible time.
(31:23):
Botimore is coming in off extra rest, they're relatively healthy.
They kind of got on.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
A bit of a role.
Speaker 8 (31:29):
He I do like Baltimore tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
Joe just got about a minute. You have any thoughts
in the reds Almost called in the Redskins. The Commander
is hosting the Lions Lins lay in seven and a
half now, Just so people know, in fifty five games,
the Lions have not lost two in a row under
Dan Campbell. So they lost last night. The question is
they cover that seven and a half and they'll be
facing a backup quarterback at Marcus Mariota.
Speaker 8 (31:54):
Well, it's funny we're talking about that homefield referee. The
referee for that game, Scott Novak, who's the was homefield
referee in the NFL since since his debut in twenty nineteen,
So the lines had that going for him. No, that's
a terrible homefield referee and home teams is just two
and five against the spread with him this season. Again,
(32:15):
he's a big folks on offensive penalties. There's a lot
of issues with Washington as far as the cohesion with
new quarterback players being out the lines are offensive jugger
on it, and they're very disciplined from a penalty perspective.
So it all shakes up verynestly for Detroit tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Joe, great stuff. Appreciate all your hard work and research.
Definitely gonna want to get you on later in the
season as we head toward, you know, the playoff matchups
on that type of thing.
Speaker 8 (32:41):
You sounds good, buddy, and good luck tomorrow you too.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
That's Joe Gibbs, NFL ref Stats, works for Warren Sharp
Rights for many magazines, and he's a guy who just boy,
you just turn them loose, and you listen to his
commentary and his knowledge of referees and their tendencies and
their history backed by none data is unsurpassed. All Right,
(33:05):
we are twenty minutes away from twelve midnight here in
Las Vegas where I live. The clock will strike twelve
midnight literally perhaps the same in your time zone, but
certainly figuratively, it's the midnight hour for all of us.
And it's the callers who are the stars. Eight seven
seven nine nine six six three six nine eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox. You'll call in, You'll give
(33:29):
your thoughts and I'm very much looking forward to hearing them.
We have three as usual, three pretty provocative topics, or
maybe not super provocative, but the type of topics that
should draw a range of response. So we will set
that up coming up here. As the as I said,
the Midnight Hour was now nineteen minutes away. Midnight hour
(33:52):
is figurative, meaning you get the last word. By the way,
for the best pregame show every weekend, be sure to
tune into Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff present It
by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday morning. We will
count you down to all the biggest games for three
hours right up until kickoff for all of the best
plays and up to the second injury news. Tune into
(34:14):
Countdown to Kickoff resent It by BETMGM every Saturday and
Sunday morning right here on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app. Coming up, we set up the topics the
midnight Hour. We are eighteen minutes away eight seven seven
nine nine six six three six nine eight seven seven
nine to nine on Fox. We want to hear from you.
I'm Bernie Frattle. We're coming to your line from Las Vegas.
(34:35):
Fox Sports Radio studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Frattle Show on.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
All right, back in the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio.
We are twelve minutes away from the midnight hour. It
turns midnight literally here in Las Vegas in twelve minutes
eight seven seven nine nine, six six three six nine,
And the midnight hours a figurative thing too. It means
you get the last laugh, no matter where you are
in the world, and we do get calls from around
the world. It is to bend that hour and you
(35:07):
get the last word. All right. I want to start
with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Speaker 13 (35:12):
Now.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
They're talking about Lebron returning here, maybe as soon as
mid November. So depending on where you live, it's either
November eighth right now from where I sit, or it's
November ninth. So I don't know what mid November means.
November fifteen, sixteen twentieth, I told Mark Medina, and we'll
be talking to him in about an hour. I don't
think it's coming back to December first, but that could
(35:32):
be wrong. But here's the point. This is going to
be interesting. Lakers are off to a pretty good start.
They're competitive. They were seven and two and then they
got beat There's seven and three in their first ten.
Lucas looked out standing. And you know, when given the opportunity,
Austin reeves or they're all ball dependent. And you've heard
(35:54):
me say this before. Okay, the Lakers are a franchise
of eras. You had all the way back to the
George Mike and era when they were in Minneapolis. Then
he had the Jerry West Elgin Baylor era, then the
Showtime Lakers with Magic and Kareem and James Worthy, and
then that led to the Shaq and Kobe dynasty, and
(36:14):
then Kobe and the pau Gasol era, and then finally
Lebron James, which I've called the clown era. Now I
believe that Luka doncic era has begun, and I'm gonna
call it the no Bs Era. It's not really Showtime
and it's not a clown era, and I don't see
any dynasty coming. But I call it the Nobs era
(36:35):
because Lucas a band about his business and the team,
and I think JJ Reddi's doing a good job. So
what happens when Lebron comes back? Have you noticed. It's
eerily he's almost conspicuously missing. It's almost like, you know,
he was never a Laker, to tell you the truth,
He's no longer the centerpiece. That's obvious. I don't know
(36:59):
that they need Lebron to sell tickets anymore. And when
Lebron returns to the lineup, the question I have for you,
man that hour callers, is this gonna be a positive
or negative? Is he gonna screw this up or take
a back seat. Luca's got to have the ball to
do what Luca does, and really so does Lebron. And
(37:20):
I know Lebron's not afraid to pass, but you wouldn't
be human if his feelings weren't hurt. And I just
don't know what it's gonna look like or feel like.
And then he got Austin Reeves. What's gonna be like
with all three up on the floor. So when Lebron
returns to the Lakers, whether it's mid November or December
or whatever, because the Lakers are doing well, is this
(37:40):
gonna be a positive or a negative? Might Lebron even
screw this up? Eight seven, seven, nine nine six sixty
three six nine And give me your thoughts are you're
looking forward to seeing him return or do you care
if he returns Jerry Jones, I just get the biggest
kick out of I think he's playing everybody for fools.
The man is a billion Come on, he built that stadium.
(38:01):
I don't think it's fashionable for people to bash him.
I'm starting to wonder, though, if you can't rule this out,
is impossible. Jerry Jones might get the last laugh on
the Michael Parsons trade. Now, it's far too soon to
definitely say anything because the outcome was gonna depend on
Dallas's team success in the future, particularly if they ever
(38:21):
have designs in winning a championship, and the same with
green Bay. I expect green Bay get beat by Philadelphia
either gonna be five with five to three and one
and Dallas. Expect Dallas they're gonna buy this week, so
it's not like green Bay's running away with it. I
get that Mike is playing at a high level, but
you really couldn't pay Micah. You'd had half your shower
cap and three guys he acquired draft picks Jerry did.
(38:44):
And oh, by the way, the Quinnon Williams trade got
the Cowboys a phenomenal player and not just renting for
one year. He's under contract through twenty twenty seven. He's
a tremendous pass rusher twenty eight years old. So look,
we'll see how that operates. But what I'd really like
to know if you think that it's possible, Jerry Jones
(39:06):
might have the last laugh on the Michael Parson's trade.
Just the way it's fleshing out, Green Bay is not
exactly running away with it. They get Quinn Williams. You
know where I'm going with that. So number one Lakers
are doing pretty well. What happens when Lebron comes back?
Is it a positive or negative? Do you want to
see if you care? And then Jerry Jones in the
Micah trade, it's going to be two or three years
(39:26):
before we really know this. Green Bay was a championship
this year. Okay, then you'd have to see that. That argument's
over with. But Mike Jerry still have the last laugh. Finally,
there was a play Friday night in the USC Northwestern
game that's got the world up in arms. Early in
the second quarter of SE's three touchdown victory, they executed
(39:47):
this wild, fake punk play that looked like a stroke
of genius kind of But according to the officiating analyst
Mike Pereira, the trick bay should have been called back
and the Trojans deserved a penalty. You saw what happened.
The punter comes on the field worring number eighty to
set up for a punt, but when he took the snap,
instead of booting it downfield, he threw a pass. Because
(40:07):
he's the backup quarterback. He's usc punter. Sam Johnson usually
wears number eighty, but he didn't throw that pass. It
was their third string quarterback, Sam Heward. So it's this
dirty pool that coach Riley played, dirty dirty pool, dirty
trick or just clever football. You can to defend coach
Riley or bag on him. The world's bagging on him.
So Lebron, you just screw it up when he comes back.
(40:29):
Jerry Jones, last laugh and Coach Riley fake punt, trick player,
dirty pool. KEEVI it locks the midnight hour. Bernie Friddle
Fox Sports Radio. That's right, you heard the band, The
Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along. My name is
Bernie Fraddlewick Kenedy a line from the Fox Sports Radio
(40:49):
studios here in Las Vegas. Take you up to three
am Pacific, six am Eastern. Three great topics. We've got
a situation where, well, Lebron's gonna be back soon, Lakers
doing well. Is it a positive or a negative? You
tell me. Jerry Jones, might he ultimately have the last
(41:10):
laugh of the Michael Parsons trade. And then Lincoln Riley
Friday Night marching out a punter who's really a backup
quarterback with the same number as the punter. Good trickery
or dirty pool, It's time for the Midnight Hour eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six,
six three sixty nine. Let's hear from you. We begin
with Andrew in Bakersfield. Andrew, welcome in. How are you?
Speaker 10 (41:32):
I'm all right, how are you doing?
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Bernie good Man?
Speaker 10 (41:35):
Go ahead, Well, I got the leadoff spot. I'm show. Hey,
I'm just kidding there you go. I am a Lakers
fan and I'm looking forward to him coming back. The
sooner the better, Okay, And you know, I just hope
that it works out and he's a good teammate.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
You that's very revealing. You hope that he works out
and he's a great teammate. And I don't want to
put origin the mouth spell out what you mean by
great teammate to find that for me in your world.
Speaker 10 (42:10):
Well, you were talking about will it work, So if
it works, then he's a good teammate.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
Fair enough, all right, Now to the next project.
Speaker 10 (42:21):
What's the second one?
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Well, Jerry Jones mighty have the last.
Speaker 10 (42:27):
I think he might inadvertently if they can do well
this season. I think it was a good move to
get another deep, good defensive player. And then what was
the third one?
Speaker 2 (42:40):
Well, Friday night, Lincoln Riley and USC pulled a fast one.
They looked like they were gonna punt number eight he's
the number of their putter. Turned out a second guy
had number eighty. He's a backup quarterback. Trickery Mike Perra
said they should have been assessed a penalty. I'll leave
it up to you guys, trickery or dirty pool.
Speaker 10 (42:56):
Well, what does it say in the rule book? I
would that would be my forget the road book?
Speaker 2 (43:01):
What do you think the game's over? And uh, I
mean we just got it. It happened and they got
away with it. I just wonder what your thoughts were.
Speaker 10 (43:08):
I think it's okay the rules as well.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
All right, all right, appreciate you checking in. Andrew always uh,
Poppy and San diego back and second tonight, what do
you got for us? Poppy?
Speaker 9 (43:19):
Okay, hold on, maybe I think Mark Medina I was
gonna like this. I can't wait for next Shaur. But look, Lebron,
James Horble, teammate, Morbo person fools gold right now, it's
looking good. The teams that can all telling us. But
you know, when it comes, very very talking, very negative energy,
the team's gonna be going down south. Don't buy them.
(43:40):
It's fool's gold right now, because when it comes, that
team ain't going nowhere. Everyone's pumping them up for no reason.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
Bernie, you know what's interesting. She seems eerily They've played
ten games and it just seems like it's eerily silent.
He's not traveling, which I get is that's said, that's
their prerogatives. Maybe, but it's just he's always so omnipresident.
All of a sudden he's not, and Luca Era has
begun and a gun. Like I said, Poppy in my open,
(44:08):
I said, it's a situation. Lebron's no longer the centerpiece.
I don't think they needed to sell tickets anymore. And
you know, ball dominant as is Luca as his Austin Breeves.
So when he gets back, he's just gonna work or
blow up. That's so you give it a good answer.
Speaker 9 (44:24):
Go ahead, it's gonna blow up. It's gonna blow up,
and he's not gonna work out and onto the next one.
Jerry Jones Jerry ding Man Man, Jerry Jones, the most
entertaining person Cowboys, always on the spot line. We'll see,
we'll see. I mean I think he's, uh, you know,
having too many illusions. I think the Cowboys are in
(44:45):
the nineties. He's stuck in the twilight zone.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
You know, all right, let's talk about us. He's game
Friday night. I'm sure you've heard about it. Uh you know,
they pulled the fast one with the punter. Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (45:00):
I like that the trick or replays. They get away
with it good. They can get away with it sometimes,
you know, teams don't get called their way on the
other team. It's unport but hey, that's sports for you.
And uh, a little bit on my mind, Little Bernie Poppy, thanks,
I like some All the dogs on Mina is too.
Speaker 3 (45:23):
Sanders.
Speaker 9 (45:24):
Guys, you heard it here. First. He is gonna play,
He's gonna he'll take over the game. And I believe
Bernie he will. When he take over, he's going to
be the starting for the resisident for the Browns.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
There's a hot take for you. So the Browns are
in New York. It's going to be very bad weather
Sunday in New York, New Jersey, and so you believe
they'll bench Dylan Gabriel Schudor will enter the game and
start the rest of the year. That's that's the poppy prediction.
Speaker 9 (45:51):
That's my prediction, Bernie, Yes, I can.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
Right, Poppy. Well, we'll see what happens. So all right,
appreciate chans always jam in Massachusetts, jump into the Frey
tonight you're bat And third.
Speaker 3 (46:03):
Hey, how's going Lebron James? He might as well retire.
It's time for him to go because if he comes
back and they have problems after they're acting like a
well oiled machine. Now it's just going to be magnified
a thousand times over, especially in the media market like
La So I think.
Speaker 2 (46:21):
So the opotive word there is this what do you
think is going to happen? We know Lebron basically has
to be ball dominant, so does Lucas Sodas Austin Reeves,
there's seven and three without him. Clearly the Luka doncic
era had started. I'm calling it the nobs era, and
uh so I get that if this has potentially the
(46:42):
potential to blow up, what do you think is going
to happen. I'm asking you to be Kreskin.
Speaker 3 (46:46):
You it's it's it's gonna blow up. It's gonna blow up,
because like look at when Burrett at the end of
his season, when he had his bad back, no one
really knew how bad that was until afterwards. He came
out and played every night and he wasn't a whiner
in a crier. Well, Lebron's a whiner and a crier.
He just it's it's in his DNA. He can't help it.
(47:07):
And I just think he'll be more of a problem
than an asset.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
So I kind of really agree with you. We'll see
what happens. I just he's always very passive aggressive, But yes,
all right, the Jerry Jones deal, Green Bay's not exactly
light in the world on fire and now he's got coinna.
One of your thoughts, I just.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
Think, Jerry Jones, you know I told you this before.
He's got the idea of a house planning. He's not
going to come out smelling good like this, And who
really cares because Dallas isn't going anywhere anywhere anyway with
their records. So not this, not this year, not this year.
And on the on the rule thing, now, Bernie, I
haven't wrapped in fifteen years, but that is in the
(47:45):
rule book. It's rule two. When they talk go out
the field, and there's like a whole chapter on Jersey.
You just can't do that switch around like that. Now
they might get fined by the NCAA or however they
do it, but you just can't do that. But how
how are the officials supposed to know? You know, the
guy comes out and that shirt this, and that it
was just a bad, bad play. It looked good, but
(48:07):
it was illegal.
Speaker 2 (48:08):
I think you know, Jim always appreciates your perspective.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
One last question, Bernie, go ahead, one quick. Why did
they bounce the ad out of LSU. Remember we were
saying Kelly was going to finish the season. He didn't
even make the Seaton. But why is the ad out?
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Because powerful people didn't want him there and they did
not want him having anything to do with hiring the
next regime. That's really kind of the short answer. Even
the governor weighed in, and so they take their football
very seriously down there in the Cajun country. But that
that's basically some very very powerful people in I placed
and said, we don't want that guy back making the
(48:44):
decision on who our next coach is going to be. Jim, Jim,
always appreciate you, man Martin and Orange California, welcome back in.
How are you.
Speaker 14 (48:55):
Hey, How you doing tonight?
Speaker 3 (48:57):
Man?
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Good good to hear from me. What do that for us?
Speaker 14 (49:00):
Yeah, let me just attect given reverse order USC.
Speaker 15 (49:07):
It doesn't surprise me that they're doing some jersey switching,
some uh safe plays. That's what their program has been
reduced to, running sakee plays against an IVY league from
the Midwest, like Northwestern. They're busy running the annexation of
Puerto Rico.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
What great movies, little giants?
Speaker 15 (49:29):
Oh yeah, what what's what's next? Matt Leinert and Reggy
Bush is done in some jerseys so they can up
their play a little bit. I'm gonna tell you this,
instead of running sake plays, what they need to do.
I live in Orange County, Bernie the top Orange County.
None of them are going to USC They're going to
(49:50):
Ohio State.
Speaker 14 (49:51):
They're going to schools like that.
Speaker 15 (49:53):
He needed to work on that before he starts running
these damn trick plays.
Speaker 14 (49:59):
Jerry Jones.
Speaker 15 (50:02):
Jerry Jones has done two things right in his life.
One was finding that Glory Hall, not that one, Bernie,
the one with the oil. And the second thing was
hiring JJ.
Speaker 5 (50:15):
That was his team.
Speaker 15 (50:17):
He took them to the super Bowl. Since then and
since then nothing, He's made every decision wrong. He's paid
the wrong players, He's done the wrong moves. But I'll
tell you this, I agree with the Michael Parsons things
because that's the sexy position, but the real position is
(50:38):
the interior line, and he's trying to make a move
that way. I just don't have faith that Jerry Jones
can get it done. Last thing, Lakers. I'm a Lakers
Van Bernie. I'm in the land of the Lakers, and
I can't believe your colors are gonna have me decend Lebron.
Speaker 5 (51:00):
Poppy.
Speaker 15 (51:01):
You're in San Diego Noah Fense.
Speaker 8 (51:03):
But you saying.
Speaker 15 (51:04):
Lebron's a bad man. That man's never been in trouble.
He's a faithful husband, and he's a good brother. So
I don't know what you call a bad man, but
he's a good man. Being a bad teammates a different thing.
Don't assassinate a man's character because you don't like the ball,
the basketball he plays.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
Will he be?
Speaker 2 (51:23):
I think, just to be fair, everything you said is
correct and and and I get it. And that's all
well and very good. But when he steps back into
the leg, he takes up so much air in the
room because he's got an ego the size of Nebraska.
The question is is he gonna disrupt that chemistry passively?
Which is not beyond him? And this is what I
(51:44):
was coming to Britain.
Speaker 15 (51:46):
Go ahead, It depends on how he's gonna take it.
This man has been the best player on his basketball
team since he was in sixth grade. Now we're talking
about him being a third option. And I'm seeing, at
this point in his career, with all his accolades, he
(52:07):
said want that. He said, hey, let me be that
third option. Let me get my game when you guys
need me. But if said ego, Bernie, We've talked about it.
Before Warriors go out on their shields. They always think
they're on top of their game. I'm hoping he humbles himself.
I'm hoping he writes the ship with this Lakers. I
(52:29):
love what Jajen Reddick's doing, the new culture he's bringing
to La and Bernie. I may be seeing the world
through purple and gold glasses, but I can see them
getting another title.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
Thank you, Bernie, I love you by all right, Strong call,
Strong Call Martin. Martin's called one of the newer callers
last years before we said really strong perspectives, and I
respect it. I can't say I totally agree, but I
respect his position a lot. And you'll you'll knock me
(53:03):
over with a feather if this this group wins another
title with with Lebron But hey, you've heard me say
it before, Bob Youuker once hit a home run off
Sandy Kilfax. Damn near just about anything could happen. Spockxwed
jumps in from Oregon. My man, what are you drinking tonight?
Speaker 11 (53:21):
Spot Hey Bernie, good good to hear from you. By
the way, I don't know if anybody else besides you
and me know who Creskin is.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
Oh, we got a very you know, we read a
book people. You know we got a very sophisticate ter.
Let's get I'll tell you what. Let's let's get to it.
We got a ton of callers. I want to get
to all three subjects. Go ahead and dive right in.
Speaker 11 (53:41):
You always tell me that, why not anybody?
Speaker 3 (53:44):
All right?
Speaker 6 (53:45):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (53:46):
Lakers, Lebron coming back. I think that he will do
his best to be in that positive I don't think
he wants to be the person who embarrasses the Laker.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
Will he be it?
Speaker 16 (53:58):
Will he be a team player?
Speaker 11 (53:59):
I think he'll try it first, But he does have
a big ego.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
There it is my friends, see there? It is when
that you just nailed it, Spock, you always do. The
bottom line is there's going to come that moment when
they look at He looks around and says, they don't
really need me anymore. I'm not the centerpiece. They don't
need me to sell tickets, they don't need me to win.
Speaker 11 (54:20):
Means you know, And what happens then then he'll go
to New York and try to be a celebrity or
something over there.
Speaker 16 (54:29):
But I don't know how that looks like.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
He wants had fifty two million dollars contract. What are
your thoughts on.
Speaker 11 (54:35):
Jerry Jones all right, well, Jerry Jerry Jones, He's always
needed control he had. He still drives a stick shift
because he has to have so much control.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
But last lack on the Parsons, last laugh on the Parsons.
Speaker 11 (54:48):
Straight, Yeah, he is because he's going to save money.
Parsons is going to do his his stats. But if
he's not with a team that is really going to
going to get it done, which he wasn't with the
cow Boys either. But I think that the money the
Jerry saves and if he ever gets anybody competent enough
to do the picks, then then maybe, But if he
(55:11):
continues to pick all these other people that don't quite
measure up, I yeah, it's I think that he's made
the right move.
Speaker 3 (55:19):
Though.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
You had to remember Spock, you know, if you just
signed him, they'd have three guys tied up with fifty
percent of the entire salary cap. Quinn Williams exactly taken.
And frankly, they have drafted pretty well in the first
round the last few years.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
So okay, yeah, we'll see what happened anyway.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Yeah, the USC trickery, Friday Night trickery or dirty pool.
Speaker 11 (55:42):
Well, you know how they always say if you ain't cheating,
you ain't trying, and it's legal.
Speaker 5 (55:50):
He did his he did his thing.
Speaker 11 (55:51):
If people can't if people can't catch him, yeah, it might,
it might be dirty pool, but it worked. And frankly,
my ex fiance went to Northwestern. I'm happy it happened
to them. So that's that's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
So all right, good stuff as always, my friend. I
always appreciate when you check in Spockole. You forgot the tailors.
What are you drinking tonight?
Speaker 1 (56:11):
Oh?
Speaker 11 (56:11):
I'm drinking a Pelican Brewery West Coast Ipa, which is
delicious seven point four white.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
Well done, my friend. You're always very creative with your libations.
I'm just a simple guy. Crown Royal, I mean, so
you always got me beat there. Joy the rest of
your evening. You always appreciate you.
Speaker 11 (56:33):
Man, Try some apple, all right, yeah, not bad?
Speaker 2 (56:37):
All right. Listen, we've got Kenny in New York, Jerome
and Charleston, Rick and Louisiana, Jeff and Denver. Please don't
go anywhere.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
I know who you are.
Speaker 2 (56:45):
I want to hear from all you, and we just
got to get to some stuff here. But we're gonna
dive right back in. I'm Bernie Froderwick Kennedy live from
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio studios. Here in Las Vegas,
don't go away? Do you listen to the midnight hour
and the Bernie.
Speaker 4 (57:00):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
We're back on the Bernie Fradles Show Fox Sports Radio.
We are in the midst of the midnight hour talking
about Lebron and his return to the Lakers. We will
be positive or negative. Jerry Jones might he have the
last laugh on the Mica Parsons trade and then the
situation where the USC which to me felt like a
tennis in a teapot. But Boyd did blow up today.
(57:37):
And by the way, referee Mike Perera noted that he
said there was one thing that potentially made the you
know play illegal. He said, you know, Sam Heard was
lined up as the punter, so therefore, quote that's actually
a fifteen yard penalty because both he and Johnson the
punter lined up as the punter in the game with
the same number. Kenny in New York, thanks for hanging
(57:58):
on there, pal, What have you got for us tonight,
Jenny in New.
Speaker 17 (58:04):
York, I'm loaded with all kinds of information tonight.
Speaker 18 (58:08):
Listen this thing with Fields and Tailor, I mean the
Jets and Aaron Glenn. They're treating this like Starbacker, Starbuck, Morton,
killmu Jorgensen, Robinson, Todd, Snake Darrel.
Speaker 7 (58:20):
I mean, and also to me, Aaron Glenn is Mike
Singletary's mini me. I mean this guy, I mean, come on,
I mean, the Jets pleased the cults because listen, sours Guardener.
I'm not a Jet fan, but the Jet fans will
tell you he's living off his first year last year.
Speaker 14 (58:42):
This year.
Speaker 18 (58:43):
The guy plays Patty Cake back there. He can't tackle,
can't cover the big time receivers, and the Coole fans
are gonna find this out.
Speaker 7 (58:51):
Very Quickly're going to do that, And I guess the
Jets have to root for Dallas and Green Bay to lose.
Speaker 18 (58:56):
Because one of those picks, they'll take one of the
words for those two picks, well, whichever draft pick is
closer to the first pick in this draft.
Speaker 7 (59:05):
And also with U come out with Quenton Williams, man,
you might as well call him Quinton Williams because he
hadn't play good either this year.
Speaker 2 (59:15):
You're not wrong, You're not wrong, but sometimes guys get
a new uh change your scenery? Are Kenny? And you
know he's only twenty seven years old. I'm not saying
the go ahead.
Speaker 17 (59:28):
Well, I know what you're saying, his age and everything.
Speaker 5 (59:30):
Happy birthday twenty seven.
Speaker 8 (59:32):
The thing is with when the dis pack it in.
Speaker 2 (59:38):
Did we lose Kenny? Kenny? Are you there? Well, I
don't know what happened, but Kenny, if you call back
in and we'll we'll get back to you again. Jerome
and Charleston. Where you been, Jerome? How you been?
Speaker 10 (59:53):
I want runners?
Speaker 2 (59:55):
That's right, that's Mike Singletary just channel Yeah, forty nine
or so. I'm guessing that was like what nine two
thousand and four or something that anyway, go ahead, Jerome, Hey.
Speaker 14 (01:00:06):
And I'm taking the hot stuff, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
You want good to here?
Speaker 14 (01:00:09):
Good to hear man, I'm taking Mountain Dew with no
chaser right there.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
You're not driving tonight. As long as you're not driving, Jerome,
and we'll have spots week pick you up, take you
where you need to go, all right, man, go ahead, Hey.
Speaker 14 (01:00:22):
As far as Jerry Jones. He once said, I'm never
tend to control over this team to anyone, And after
thirty years, he's right. I don't trust that. I trust
that guy about as far as I can throw him. Okay,
I don't trust it. I'm just look, I've had it
with Jerry Jones went to talking in the distance and that,
and look he's worth thirteen billion dollars between the Cowboys
(01:00:48):
and his money and his own private money. All right,
I don't trust him. Look just like one day he'll
decide to turn it over. But as of right now,
it's not happening. And that in that Southern care I
watched that camp and I saw the guy throwing the path.
He said, he's ard number in you. I said, oh, no,
wonder And the Anasis were laughing about him. They thought
(01:01:10):
that was fun.
Speaker 15 (01:01:11):
Ah.
Speaker 14 (01:01:12):
They put home the don't on a north Western You know,
that's not integrity in this cutting integrity and sports you kidney.
But with all the showboarding and the dancing and the
and the well, I got money and I making I
need to make money. We spend a lot of money
because we make a lot of money. Come on, man,
(01:01:34):
and so sleasy sometimes I don't know whether I need
to take a shot or go get a shower, because
it's just I mean, guys, like listen, like Iowa was
quarterback to day. He played four years in one school.
Then he gets a million dollar to come to Iowa
and he wasn't that great. They're paying him a million dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
He isn't.
Speaker 14 (01:01:57):
He can't even complete a part path and he's playing quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
So I don't know. All you gotta get to Lebron.
I gotta hear your take out of Lebron when he
comes back to the Lakers.
Speaker 14 (01:02:08):
Honor for Lebron the One and the Leado jimp to
another title, he's gonna have to show his soul to
the devil look. One of his biggest missteps was when
he went to Miami and kids him and says, not four,
not five, not trick. And when I said, I really
mean it, I said, you know, never respect to disrespect
the process of success and winning, because when you do that,
(01:02:32):
when you disrespect it, you're going to find yourself on
the other side, and the other side is losing. And
he hasn't won a title him over ten years, and
I don't expect him to do it. With the Lakers,
and I also want to Joe Chuck alone, pretty boy
head coach with the tattoos. Okay, come on, what's that do.
Speaker 15 (01:02:50):
He has to be the coach, no leads, and.
Speaker 14 (01:02:52):
He's the course of the lagers, and you believe.
Speaker 5 (01:02:54):
In him, not me.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
Fuck you outstanding, Joomy, Sure you're not drinking. Joel was
along with that Mountain dew that was outstanding. By the way,
just set the record store because you rarely make him.
I don't think if you ever heard him make a mistake.
They did win a title in twenty twenty, so that
was less than ten years ago. That was you can
you can check in, but you can never leave. You
(01:03:17):
can check out, but you can never leave the Hotel
California playoffs, which I contend, which I contend Jerome, they
didn't have to travel. They got to sit on their
butt for two months. That helped the Lakers. They were old,
Lebron was even old then. And oh, by the way,
they had three months off to lick their wounds before
the tournament started. So again, everybody else was in the
(01:03:40):
same boat. And I hear it was really tough in
the bubble, but they fitted from that.
Speaker 14 (01:03:44):
You got the last word really tough. Withe Okay, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Yeah, that's what they said. All right, Hey Rick in Louisiana,
how you been Rick?
Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
You Bernie good Man, you hear from you. Yeah, I've
been out for a while. Had to get me some rest. Sleep.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Rest is good, rest is good.
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:04:07):
So what do you think about these street topics? Take
them at anywhere you.
Speaker 5 (01:04:09):
Want, all right. Let me start with the eighty eighty
in college. You know they can do those. They have
two players with the same number, so I think that
was good. They managed to get away with it, you know,
just send in the backup quarterback, so that was a
good move. Secondly, as far as Jerry Jones, one thing
(01:04:31):
that hasn't happened with all these moves he's made. Still
can't stop the run.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
That's so true.
Speaker 5 (01:04:39):
True Boo scatter Boo, which is out now with an isray.
But he was helping when they played Dallas and Denver.
When Denver played, oh my goodness, man, they were running
the ball like there was nothing. So if I mean,
if these moves can get the run stopped, and I
think he'll be okay. But he's not laughing yet.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
I've always liked no no, far from it. But I've
always liked Quinnon. Williams with Kenny in New York was right. Uh,
he did not really live anywhere near to his potential
with the Jets. What are your thoughts on Lebron or
what are your thoughts on the USC trick play?
Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
Yeah, that said with the trick play because in college
you can have those A two eighties eighty eighty numbers,
so you can that was a good move because they can't. Hello,
you're still on oh okay, and so that was a
good move. But then now to Lebron, my concern is, well,
(01:05:44):
I put it like this, I just don't see Lebron
being a person and I can be wrong that if
if what's his name, the guard, Luca Luca. Yeah, if
Luca becomes the main, you know, point of interest and
(01:06:05):
he's leading the team, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
I think he kind of I think we're kind of
to that point now, be honest with you, I think
we're now Rick, It's it's pretty much Luca's team now.
Speaker 10 (01:06:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:06:21):
So my question is this is that going to be
a Lebron issue or is that going to be a
coaching issue? If if him coming back disrupts the team
and JJ Ridrick gonna have to make some decisions, you know,
and we'll see it. But but you know what also
is the issue is that that fifty two millions. So
(01:06:42):
he may have to keep him in there, right, you know,
because of the fifty two millions. But I still think
that he needs to be prepared to say, hey, look man,
you you know, he probably needs to start having some
some talks with him now because one thing I believe
Lebron two things I believe Brown will do when you
get in the game. He may pass the ball, but
(01:07:04):
he's no jack of them threes. And oh boy, he's
not the best three point shooter, and.
Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
He's no longer the centerpiece.
Speaker 9 (01:07:12):
He's not.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
And we're going to see how that, how that plays
with his ego anything else.
Speaker 5 (01:07:17):
Rick, Yeah, I don't know if you noticed, but Bill
Belichick and his girlfriend has won the last two games.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Man, I choose not to consume that content, my friend,
I choose not to consume that content. They're going nowhere,
all right, my friend. Appreciate it. Rick, You have a
good evening. Jeff and Denver join. Just welcome in. Jeff, Hey, Bernie,
how you doing good, sir?
Speaker 9 (01:07:43):
You I'm doing good.
Speaker 17 (01:07:46):
I think you should look at the expense fund and
maybe do some mobile events and get yourself out there
so other people can meet you.
Speaker 11 (01:07:56):
You never know.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
You never know. My wife and I do a lot
of travel it and I've been to Denver many times.
A great city. I used to stay in Littleton when
I went there on business. But your thoughts, appreciate that,
Your thoughts go ahead, Jeff.
Speaker 17 (01:08:12):
Hey, So the first off, I want to chime in
on the Lebron things. As a Denver Nugget fan, I
cannot wait for Lebron to come back because it's going
to totally jack up all the mojo that they have
going right now. I hate to say it, but the
Lakers are playing with pretty good mojo right now, the
balls moving, but Lebron's it's going to stop it immediately.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
That's what I was thinking. It's going to be a
bug on the wheel of flying the ointment, isn't it,
because they're all ball dominant. Yeah, go ahead, Jeff.
Speaker 17 (01:08:43):
Yeah, everything's moving and flowing, and Lebron's going to come in,
give me the ball, give me the ball, give me
the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
Passively. He'll do that, and I just think he's going
to take up air in the room. Weren't completely in
agreement on that. Jeff thoughts on Jerry Jones and Michael Parsons.
You know the trade. He's got back some capital. Uh
and and and we'll see if Quinn and Williams pans out.
But in the meantime, Green Bay is not exactly set
in the world on fire. So Mike Jerry have the
(01:09:09):
last laugh on that trade.
Speaker 19 (01:09:11):
I never thought Michael was that good anyway.
Speaker 17 (01:09:14):
Of all the top name pass rushers, his numbers were terrible.
I never thought he was that great anyway. So I
think the guy is overrated. So that thing is like
Barry Jones to like get rid of him. But I
don't see him doing anything anyway. He's not done anything
in Green Bay yet, So.
Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
I guess you're right. So I guess the jury's out.
We'll see uh he's I think he's got all the
ability in the world. But the question is, you don't
you know, you just don't win super Bowls with one
edge rusher, right, otherwise Michael Miles Garrett would have a
couple of super Bowls. Well, finally, you have a situation
now here in the USC trickery or dirty pool on
(01:09:54):
Friday Night with the with the poll, both players were
in number eighty. I'll get to that.
Speaker 17 (01:10:00):
As far as the edw's got two pass rushers that
are like killing it, we in sack so Mike I
can't do his own.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
You're right, yeah, listen, listen, Denver keeps winning. They don't
ask Kyle just how many. They're not getting the respect
they deserve. But I think Sean Payton's doing a great job.
Speaker 17 (01:10:17):
Well, our defense is great, but our offense is non existent.
But the whole usc thing. Any punter, whoever you put
in the position, a punter can throw a pass. It
doesn't matter the number or the trickery, any position.
Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
That's a really good point. That's a really good point.
Speaker 11 (01:10:35):
Punter.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
That kind of says it all right there, Yeah, you're
not wrong.
Speaker 17 (01:10:41):
What's the what's the issue about that?
Speaker 8 (01:10:43):
Whoever they put back there can still throw.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
A pass, right, Yeah, the original punter could have thrown
a pass. You're right, all right? I remember, I remember,
thanks a lot, Jeff. There was a punter Ollhouse, see that,
a punter named Tom Tupa back in the day. He
was actually the number three quarterback in the death shot.
He was like an all State quarterback in high school.
Tom Tupa. Hey, we're off and running. Callers have been fantastic,
(01:11:07):
Dick and Dayton, Miguel in Southgate. Please sit tight. We're
getting to you right quick. Next, I'm Bernie Frattle. We
are comedy line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
Studios here in Las Vegas. Keep it lock listening to
the Bernie Fraddle Show the midnight hour and five.
Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio all right.
Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
Back at the Bernie Fraddle Show midnight hour. He got
four callers. I want to get to all of them.
Let's go out to Dayton, Ohio. Dick joins. Just welcome in, Dick. Hey,
how you doing, Bernie good sare you?
Speaker 16 (01:11:37):
Oh good?
Speaker 20 (01:11:38):
I was talking about your screener. You know, my family
liston Cleveland and I've followed with them the Cleveland Sports.
But I really think the Browns need a re shuffling.
I think Tasanski, I think Adam Barry. I think they
need to It's pitiful about them in the Bengals the
(01:11:59):
same way that's I'm sad about Joe Burrow, but the
defensive line is just terrible, and it's just you know,
it's just I don't understand. We've had, you know, in
the eighties, they were good. What do you think's wrong
with them? The Browns and Bengals?
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
They never should have let well, the Bengals is bad luck.
The Browns. Listen, They've had quarterbacks. You had Bernie Coosaar,
you had Baker Mayfield. They were one and thirty one.
He got into the playoffs. It's leadership from the top down,
just like any other organization, Dick, you know, so anything else,
but because I want to get to the air calls that.
I really appreciate you checking in anything else.
Speaker 20 (01:12:35):
Yeah, I just wanted to congratulate the Buck guys. So far,
I think they're going to go, oh yeah. But I'm
a big fan. I watch Fox Sports, you know. I
like to see the Bengals and Bengals and what is
it the Bengals and Browns and you know, I watched
the Cavaliers, so it's kind of nice. I'm a big
fan of Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
Appreciate you, man. I've been to Dayton, Ohio. My buddy
and I used to drink it thirsties here in Dayton, Ohio.
And by the way, Cleveland's a great city. I don't
care what anybody says, I mean that mcgallan, Southgate. Welcome
in Bernie fratershow Hey, what's going on.
Speaker 21 (01:13:11):
As far as as far as the Lebron situation, Yes, sir,
I believe you got to give it a little sample
size as far as like fifteen twenty games tops, and
if it doesn't work out, you have to sit them.
You have to sit them down and talk to him
and possibly look to trade trading him.
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
You're not wrong, They're gonna that's gonna be a bear
because of the size of the contract, in his age
and the injuries and all that, and idealistically you're not wrong,
but boy, that's gonna be a tough not anything on
the other subject, said Miguel.
Speaker 21 (01:13:40):
As far as far as Jerry Jones goes on this one,
I think he did get it right as far on
not paying Micah just because the team is not really
going to win a Super Bowl anytime soon. But overall,
Jerry Jones, I'm sorry to say, the companies are not
gonna be legit super Bowl contenders until he passes away,
because he's never gonna let somebody else run the team,
somebody that can actually get him the players and the
(01:14:02):
team that can actually content.
Speaker 19 (01:14:04):
For the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
You're not wrong in terms of the fact that he
is the king. It's good to be the king. Anything
on the USC punter or fiasco, I think.
Speaker 21 (01:14:15):
I think USC for a University of vat Kylibert to
do something like that, it's a bad look. Especially it's
just I don't like it. Whether it was right or wrong,
penalty or no penalty.
Speaker 9 (01:14:30):
They shouldn't have done that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Hey, Miguel, that's a really strong call. I appreciate you
checking in. Please don't be a stranger, man, Marco and Charlotte.
Welcome in, Marco.
Speaker 8 (01:14:40):
What's going on, man?
Speaker 19 (01:14:41):
How you doing?
Speaker 11 (01:14:41):
Good?
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Sir? Thanks for checking in.
Speaker 16 (01:14:44):
So I just I just wanted to talk on two
of the topics. I'm a Cowboys fan, so obviously I
want to talk about Jerry.
Speaker 5 (01:14:50):
Okay.
Speaker 16 (01:14:52):
I feel like I had already said to myself about
a year ago that we should trade my good just
after we signed that and signed CD and just where
we were at with those kinds, I was like, don't
make sense to pay Micah that much money on top
of that, like like just by default now because I
didn't like him about default, we should have.
Speaker 8 (01:15:07):
Got rid of him.
Speaker 16 (01:15:08):
So I was cool with that decision, but I didn't
like how Jerry went about it, Like I think he
went about the situation the whole wrong way. It's like
he wanted to make it a spectacle and it just
seems like he wanted to be super disrespectful towards Michael,
and Michael wasn't that way towards him.
Speaker 8 (01:15:25):
So I don't know.
Speaker 16 (01:15:26):
I don't like the way Jerry handled it. And it's
like they're talking about we're gonna sign Pickens, but Pickens
has the same agent that Michaeh had, So that's gonna
be that's gonna be pretty interesting to see what happens
with George Pickens because Jerry obviously said he didn't like
Michael's agent.
Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
And then.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
How much you said excellent perspective, continue on, oh man.
Speaker 16 (01:15:47):
Then with the Lebron thing, I've been I've been listening
to all the other callers and stuff, and I don't know, man,
it's like nobody actually watches the games, Like, do y'all
remember Lebron playing with Luca last year?
Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
He played off the ball the whole.
Speaker 5 (01:16:00):
Time and he did great.
Speaker 14 (01:16:01):
He did he had way more energy.
Speaker 16 (01:16:03):
For defense, Like the whole reason the Lakers brought Anthony
David to LA was because Lebron wanted him to take
over and be number one?
Speaker 3 (01:16:10):
Did we all forget that?
Speaker 16 (01:16:11):
Like everybody's questioning whether Lebron can play in this type
of situation, He's already wanted to do that. He did
it for the twenty eight games that he played with
Luca last year, So like, what are we talking about?
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
Well, let's see if that plays out. And don't be
a stranger, Marco. I'd like to hear from you again.
But those are excellent perspectives all the way around. Listen,
signing Micaeh. They would have killed the salary cap with
three guys, but you're right, the process was clunky and disrespectful,
all right? Our last color of that DJ different in
Kansas brand home for us.
Speaker 19 (01:16:43):
Hey, what's up there, Bernie bro I haven't haven't called
you guys in a good while. For man, I apologized
called work late. But look, let me just say this
right here, right now, Garry Jones, he's getting people who
they can who he could control period that let's to
put it. He getting the coach of where he could control.
(01:17:04):
Now Lebron, this is just my take, dude, sit down.
Let other people take the range because you're getting older,
like you was at Miami and Dwayne Wade said, look,
you take over the control. Now he needs to sit down,
let other.
Speaker 22 (01:17:20):
People take control, retire and go golf into the movies
or productions that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:25):
He needs to do.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
All right. Anything on the USC punk Fiasco deal last night, Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
Well that was bad.
Speaker 19 (01:17:35):
I'll just let's put it this way.
Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
That was bad. That was bad.
Speaker 22 (01:17:39):
That was majorly bad.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Period. That just bad. It just you can say about it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
It was bad, all right? Anything else said DJ.
Speaker 3 (01:17:50):
Berdie.
Speaker 22 (01:17:51):
Look here, I just want to say thank you for
getting up the time to talk and to express opinions
to other activity that's going on.
Speaker 3 (01:17:59):
I'll listen to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (01:18:02):
I keep it locked, like Chris.
Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
Rod say, keep it locked.
Speaker 22 (01:18:06):
When I wake up, I listen to it. When I
get ready to go to bed, I listen to it.
So you guys, you got doing a really good hookup
job down there.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
I like you guys a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
All right, we appreciate that. Appreciate you and all the
callers tonight. And to piggyback on what Marco said from Charlotte, Look,
Lebron has in the past shown defference. He did in Cleveland,
he did in Miami, and he did last year with Luca.
They didn't quit themselves well against Minnesota, but he did.
(01:18:40):
I feel like the dynamics different this year. But let's
see how Lebron is. Let's give him a chance, because
he did want Anthony Daves to come in. Although Anthony
Davis wasn't ball dominant like Luca is and like Austin
Reeves is, You're gonna have three guys potentially ball dominant.
Now if Ron comes back and finds a role that
(01:19:08):
essentially turns the playmaking duties over to Luca, and this
is a pairing that has a potential to create a
top tier offense, and we'll see how they do during
the regular season and then into the playoffs. It's a
very crowded West Division, so I was posing the question
as objectively as I can. I don't know how it's
(01:19:31):
going to work out. It just seems eerily quiet with
Lebron not around, and you know, I don't think I
just don't feel he wants to go out this way.
But I think I've told this story a hundred times.
Two thousand and three, I drove down to Cleveland to
say Vincent Saint Mary's play, and I was shocked by
three things. Lebron walks in the court and he's eighteen
(01:19:53):
years old. He's built like an NFL linebacker. Go wow.
Then he's a point guard bringing the ball up the floor,
and I said to myself, this kid's got guard handles.
He's incredible. And then he was very unselfish. Because I've
seen a lot of high school stars play over the years,
they take the air out of the room. Lebron was
dishing balls off passing. He was not a ballhog at all.
So I do think it's in his DNA and its
(01:20:15):
nature to try to fit where he's most needed. The
question is will he because there's a dynamic here in
which Luca is now the centerpiece of the team and
the guy may be selling tickets. But hey, like Marco said,
he did it last year, let's see if he does
it this year. And we'll talk to Mark Medina coming up,
because we're gonna get into the NBA Medina Magic. Thanks
(01:20:35):
to all the callers again on the MIDnet hour, You're fantastic.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Yup, that's right. You heard the
man Bernie faddle Show keeps from rolling right along. My
name is Bernie Fraddleick comedy line from the Fox Sports
Radio studios here in Las Vegas, take after three and
Pacific six am Eastern. Thanks to all the callers again
(01:20:56):
for another Rockets Minette hour. You're outstanding getting compliments on Twitter,
so really appreciate what you bring to the show. But
we got to switch to the NBA. Three simple words.
It's that time. Mark Medina, our Fox Sports Radio guru,
also a writer for Essentially Sports never fails. Always plenty
(01:21:19):
of stuff to talk about, Mark, we haven't gotten to
it the last couple of weeks. So why don't we
start out with Browny's defensive gym against Victor Winbinyama, which
I obviously say a ton in cheek, poor guy. I
don't think anybody can stop winnby that night.
Speaker 12 (01:21:35):
Your thoughts on what you saw, Hey, don't be talking
in chick about Bronni. He had nine points in today's
game against the Atlanta Hawks. JJ Reddick is praising him
for how he's a great catch and shoot player. I
mean he played eighteen minutes today against Portland last week
nineteen minutes. He is playing legitimate rotation minutes here.
Speaker 2 (01:21:57):
Unfortunately, I believe the Lakers lost to Atlanta today, correct,
that is true. What would they be without Bronnie? That's
that's really trying to.
Speaker 12 (01:22:04):
Tie games in a row. And actually Victor one Minyama
was struggling that game, not because of Bronny, but he
did get into foul trouble. He wound up fouling out
of the game. But you know, they're just sending multiple
bodies at Victor, you know, so you want to get
in the paint, and you know he actually was struggling,
but had nothing to do with Browny.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
No, that's fair, that's fair. So they get a couple
of days off and they get to visit Charlotte. And
that's what I was thinking. If there's no lebron, there's
no Luca, and there's no Austin Reeves, you got Bronnie,
who I think. Well, I don't think he was even
ball dominant in high school. But that's a different story
for a different day. All right, good stuff. That'll that'll
conclude our Bronnie update. I want to go back to
(01:22:45):
the Clipper situation. Apparently Steve Balmer was sued this week
over the Kawhido, can you tell us about that?
Speaker 12 (01:22:51):
Yeah, I mean this is part of the lawsuit that
they asked. Some of the former Aspiration employees were suing
Sue Balmer because he was managing these payments as a
way to circumvent the cap. Now all these things are
going to be litigated, so anyone can technically file a lawsuit,
but what to see what happens with how the court
(01:23:13):
looks at this And this is tied to the larger investigation,
Bernie that we've been talking about for these past few months,
that they're going to look at all the evidence. But
I think it's again going to be something that gets
decided once all said and done, sometime next summer.
Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
Talk with Mark Medina Medina Magic or Fox Sports Radio
NBA Guruls, a writer for Essentially Sports. The dialogue or
rhetoric is heated up in terms of the tough choice
that Memphis faces regarding John Moran, and I understand his
trade market is not exactly robust, but there are some
(01:23:53):
teams showing interest. What do you expect is going to
happen with John Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies If I.
Speaker 12 (01:24:00):
Guess I think that he stays with the Memphis Grizzlies,
I think that obviously, even though they are not good
right now, I e. The one game suspension, I don't
think that it's in jaws interest to request the trade
because of what you just said that I don't think
the market is that robust for him. I think with
the Grizzlies, you know they're going through an uncertain period
(01:24:22):
with how they're going to be in the Western Conference
this season. Then trading your hometown favorite star player usually
isn't a recipe for success. He's beloved in Memphis. They
really identify with, you know, the grit and grind kind
of personality he has and you know the kind of
chip and chip on his shoulder mentality. Uh that I
(01:24:45):
think that ultimately they're going to huddle their heads together
and prevail. That you know, they did give the one
game suspension to them. That showed the message that we're
not going to let you just run things just because
you're a star player. But I think eventually things will
fizzle down. But that caveat of side, I could see
Miami being a real realistic player in this because that
(01:25:09):
he'd have a pretty good track record with taking guys
on that don't really work out elsewhere because they feel
like they can mold them, you know, under pat Ryo
and Eric Spolser with all the conditioning commands and strong
coaching expectations, and they have a really good reputation. But
even if they might be interested, I don't think that
they'll give up the farm to get them, and so
(01:25:31):
I think ultimately he'll wind up Stanpo where he is.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
So this isn't exactly a man bite stock story. But
Zion Williams heard again with an amstring. But I'm understanding
this finally might be the year they do move move
Zion from the Pelicans. What are you hearing?
Speaker 12 (01:25:48):
Yeah, it's fascinating here because when you talk to the Pelicans,
they always swear by him about not that he can
stay healthy because clearly he has them, but that they say,
you know what he's doing the work saying discipline. Kevan
Mooney talked to me a few weeks ago. You know,
he just joined them this year. He has a lot
of equity with the warriors, and he himself said, yeah,
(01:26:08):
I was wondering myself what the real deal is about him,
because you always hear stories. But he was adamant that
he's putting in the work and he's doing everything from
a dieting training standpoint. But availability is availability. Even if
you're doing the right things and you're not being available,
there's only so much you can do. But I think
(01:26:30):
for different reasons here, but similar to the job conversation,
I don't see there being much of a market for
Zion either because of availability, and so I think the
Pelicans are just going to keep riding this out, and
if there is going to be a change, the low
hanging freak is going to be Willie Green. You know,
I know that we talked about this last week, and
(01:26:51):
I would I expressed a little bit surprised, but the
fact that they keep persisting with their struggles. It's always
inevitable that the head coach gets the first acts, especially
when there is a new front office in charge.
Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Would it surprise you, Mark if Trey Young is possibly created.
He's entering the last year next year his two hundred
and fifty million dollars deal, and it's not exactly like
the Hawks are in a big hurry to sign him
to an extension, and as productive as he's been, the
Hawks just win forty games every year. Could you see
Trey Young elsewhere.
Speaker 12 (01:27:23):
You know, if we had this conversation at the end
of last season, I thought it would be a matter
of when, not if, he's he's being dealt. So the
Hawks actually kind of doubled down on him by giving
some good supporting cast players around him with Chriss Porzingis
and Alexander Alexander Walker, they're up dayson Daniels. He's a
(01:27:43):
great defender. Luke Kennard another great shooter. So you know,
they're they have this great win against the Lakers, but
I think that, you know, that was more of the
Lakers not showing up, but they have been undermanned with
Trey Young having an injury. But I think they see
themselves as you know what, the Eastern Conference is so
wide open this year, and they have a better supporting
(01:28:04):
cast around him, maybe they can catch lay in a bottle.
So again, I thought, eventually, because they kept writing a
brick wall off for that twenty twenty one playoff run,
that they would just say, you know what, what's cutter losses.
But with what they did this offseason makes me convince,
you know what, Trey Young is here to say last
name I.
Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
Mentioned in this subject matter, All of a sudden Janice
and tenakoople guy. I think we all thought three or
four months we had a guy on Twitter. Buck Jenner
said he's going nowhere and so far is not what's interesting.
He's really been productive this year. He's averaging like thirty
three points a game. He's shooting almost seventy percent. Would
you be surprised if Jannis ends up elsewhere? Does he
(01:28:47):
finished his career with the Bucks.
Speaker 12 (01:28:49):
He had so much of a guessing game because I
thought that the right on the wall last year is
pretty clear. With another playoff exit, Damian having his achilles
injury and then then making the tough but necessary decision
to waive him, I thought that he would see the
right on the wall. But to your point, he's already
(01:29:11):
eclipsed his numbers last season. He's back in the MVP conversation.
And even though you know they're not a perfect roster,
having someone like Miles Turner has done wonders. Kyle Kuzmana
has been a better player, Gary Crentton Trent Junior is
a good outside shooter that you know. I think that
even with all the imperfections, he's gonna wind up staying
(01:29:34):
with Milwaukee, and that's something that was emphasized to me
before the season. I saw Marquise Johnson, who's longtime Bucks analysts,
and he was stressed to me, even though Jannie has
put on all these messages, he's just doing this to
keep the front office of front office honest with making
sure to the upgrade of the roster. But he said,
(01:29:54):
knowing him, he's all about loyalty and he doesn't believe
anything h elsewhere that would suggest that that loyalty's ever
going to break because of just how he is as
a person.
Speaker 3 (01:30:06):
So we had a very.
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Rocous midnight hour, a lot of it having to do
with the Lakers and Lebron's return. We're going to get
to that in a second, but before I do, I
understand Austin reeves injury might be a little worse than
originally anticipated. What is his timeline to return?
Speaker 12 (01:30:23):
Yeah, well, he's in the past three games because of
a right groinstring. JJ Reddick didn't give a timeline yet,
but you know.
Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
I think that.
Speaker 12 (01:30:34):
He could return pretty soon. I don't think it's going
to be Monday's game against Charlotte, but I could see
at some point this road trip that he's back. But
given that groin injuries are always delicate. They want to
be cautious. So if I had a guess here looking
at the schedule, they'll sit them out Monday against Charlotte,
Wednesday at Oklahoma Citi, but probably get him back for
(01:30:57):
Friday's game in New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
Interesting, so I said, sort of in a brazen fashion, Gosh,
I think it was in September. I thought Lebron would
be back in December, but now they're talking about maybe
middle of the month. What's his Lebron's timeline?
Speaker 12 (01:31:14):
Yeah, well it's JJ Redick has said what you just mentioned,
probably the second third week of November. He's not with
the Lakers right now on the road trip which extends
them past Charlotte Monday, Oklahoma City Wednesday, New Orleans Friday
in Milwaukee Sunday. So maybe he plays their first home
game against Utah and November eighteenth, or maybe the two
(01:31:39):
days before Thanksgiving November twenty fifth against the Lakers. He
needs to do five on five work contact, but he
is going to be evaluated technically in about a week
or two, so we have.
Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
An interesting dynamic mark. We have to be honest, he's
no longer the centerpiece. I don't think they need Lebron
to sell tickets anymore. This is Lucas tem Luca has
begun now. I know in his career Lebron can show defference,
but this is a different dynamic because it's a passing
of the torch, among other things, and he's playing without
a contract next year. How do you expect this to
(01:32:12):
honestly work? Maintaining your objectivity here? What does this look like?
Not just the first week Lebron's back, but throughout the
remainder of the season. Can they make this cool exist simultaneously?
Speaker 12 (01:32:24):
They can, but it'll be awkward. It's going to be complicated.
Here's why x as it knows. I don't think it's
a problem. I think Lebron is good and gladly take
a back seat because he trusts Luka Doncic. It helps
his workload. He's a great passer. Last season he embraced
being a defender. And also the medical people are going
to limit his workload. I talked to a few outside doctors,
(01:32:47):
you know, away from the team, and they projected he's
going to be on minutes restrictions for at least the
next month or so, and his production won't be the same,
but he'll ramp up the second part of the season.
I think where the awkwardness is, you know, him having
command of the locker room, him having influence on what
the Lakers do, lead into the trade deadline. But you know,
(01:33:08):
I know they laid an egg against Atlanta, But I
think at fairness, when Lebron was out, they've shown that
they have a pretty good roster. They don't really need
to make dramatic changes. They have Luca playing at MVP level,
Austin Reeves playing at All star level, a lot of
good role players being the best versions of themselves with
Marcus Smart, DeAndre and Jaquaraba. Really the only question mark
(01:33:31):
and negative part is he gave Vincent's injury. But he's
supposed to be back at some point in the next
week or two, so you know, x ason Os, I
think it's going to be fine. It's just more all
the behind the scenes drama for the front office dynamic.
Is he playing well enough that the Lakers would want
to give him an offer next season? And you know,
(01:33:53):
how does he weigh when to make an announcement about
his future because there's always the farewell tour. So well,
if it were only as simple as basketball. There want
to be an issue at all because Lebron is all
about the right things on the court. But as we know, Bernie,
it's all the extra curricular that makes things complicated with
Lebron and sometimes leads to some tension behind the scenes.
Speaker 2 (01:34:17):
Well, you made that distinction about as well as anybody
humanly can. I think that statement needs to be framed
and hung on the wall to love next to the
Mona Lisa, because Mark, you've essentially diagrammed the psychodynamic here
and so yes, the x's and o's, we've already seen
what that looks like. But last year at this time,
(01:34:37):
Lebron didn't know the Lakers are going to basically tell
me what the road and Ale it's Lucas team. So
you have this fall from grace as it were. I
don't want to be dramatic. So the real question is
use the word awkward, awkward, perfect word. How does his
awkwardness manifest itself as a practical matter, because I don't
see how it helps him on the floor win games.
Speaker 12 (01:35:00):
Yeah, well you know what, buy a ticket because even
if there's more losses or wins or it's a roller coaster,
it's going to be entertaining because the other thing that
we don't really know is just how is his body
going to respond. Well, we've seen his time.
Speaker 3 (01:35:16):
With the Lakers.
Speaker 12 (01:35:16):
When he's on the floor, I'm not going to say
he's playing like his prime years, but he still plays
at all star caliber level. But there's been a lot
of games that he has been hurt with the Lakers,
and when you're forty years old, you're coming off a
back injury, all bets are off. So I think, in
fairness to Lebron again, I only has any problem with
(01:35:37):
Luca taking rains with the ball handling, taking more shots.
To some degree, Austin reeves he does make the right
basketball play, and because he has better talent around him,
I think he's willing to take it back seat. Previous
years he refused. He initially signed on board, but then
refused to do it because he didn't trust guys like
(01:35:58):
D'Angel Russell, Russell Westbrook. This is a whole other animal here,
But again, the aw fourdness has to do with the
uncertainty about his health, the uncertainty about how the front
office views his future, and the uncertainty on you know,
when he wants to make an announcement about his future.
There's just a lot of unknowns and moving parts that
again is going to make for very compelling soap opera coverage.
Speaker 2 (01:36:22):
Look, we've seen Aaron Rodgers do this in Green Bay.
We've seen Brett Favre do this in Green Bay. It's
going to be a distraction. We'll just have to see
how it manifests itself. Finally, I want to run this
by you. The WNBA and their CBA negotiations date agreed
to extend the talks without us, you know, the CBA
(01:36:43):
one more month after Halloween, when now we're already ten
days into that month. That's not very long. Do you
expect these two sides to strike a deal? Is the
Commission have his eyes on this at all? Adam Silver?
From your vantage point, what do you expect?
Speaker 12 (01:36:59):
I expect fact that they're going to reach a deal soon.
I think the fact that there was an extension shows,
you know what, we just need some time to dot
the you know, dot I cross T's neither side want
so lose any momentum. With the fact that the WNBA
has gotten more popular because of star players like Caitlin
Clark and other players. Regardless of how you look at
(01:37:22):
labor negotiations and who's right, who's wrong, and philosophically where
you land on it. When you're out of sight, out
of mind. That's not good for business, but for the
players because they only have a certain amount of years
available to earn this kind of money, and for the
business itself and especially the WNBA. They're catching lighting a
bottle right now with you know, eyeballs finally turning on
(01:37:45):
them after them playing second fiddle to the major professional
sports team. So I don't think. I think both sides
are very cognizant that they can't squander this kind of momentum.
Speaker 2 (01:37:55):
That's a common sense, pragmatic viewpoint, and I understand, But
I don't think there's anything common sense or pragmatic about
the w NBA. It's almost a sensitive en titledmn. By
the way, they lost money again this year, so we're
going on a long time. But listen, I'm gonna take
your word. Perhaps behind the scenes they realize there's a
(01:38:17):
chance to grow from here, and you're right, any kind
of interruption out of side, out of mind, which I
think they're out of side, out of mind even during
the finals. But that's just me. The long and the
short of it, Mark, because I think you make some
valid points and we just have to see how it
plays out. And I'll end tonight like I end every week.
I'm always anxious to see what the new cycle brings
us between now and next Saturday. I got a feeling
(01:38:39):
there'll be something, some bombshell again, you get the last word.
Speaker 12 (01:38:42):
Yeah, Well, look, given what's going on in the NBA,
with the gambling allegations and that investigation, we should urge
the listeners to bet on it that there will be
plenty of things to talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:38:57):
Mark, enjoy your week ahead. Nice punchline there, I'll let
you have the last word.
Speaker 12 (01:39:02):
Good stuff, Pal, Thank you, I appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
Bernie, you too.

up to the second injury News. Tune into Countdown to Kickoff,
presented by BETMGM every Saturday and Sunday morning right here
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Look, you
heard Mark Medina so eloquently say it, when Lebron returns
(01:40:56):
to the Lakers, the x's and o's should be read
relatively seamless. We had an earlier caller, I think it
was Marco, I think from Charlotte. He brought up a
great point and he said, hey, look, Lebron was more
than willing to do this last year. And he's not wrong.
It was a good call. That where I differ slightly
is last year, at this time, I really thought Lebron
(01:41:19):
would be thought he would be offered an extension. Instead,
the opposite happened. And this is he's essentially a lame
duck with the Lakers. And we know I have a
situation where the Luca is the centerpiece, and Luca is
the one selling tickets more so than Lebron, I believe.
So Mark said, you know, he's got his finger on
(01:41:41):
the pulse. He says, it could be awkward, and we
don't know how that's going to manifest itself as a
practical matter. The Lakers. I've said it a thousand times.
They are an organization. They are a franchise defined by
their eras going back sixty seventy years to Minneapolis, when
they're keep player was George Mikeen, a seven footer. They
(01:42:03):
won five championships in the Minneapolis Laker era and their
key player was George Miken. Then you had the Jerry
West Elgin Baylor era. They won a championship, they reached
several ANBA finals. Boston was their nemesis, but that was
quite an era. And then the one I'm most familiar
with because I was an intern at the Forum for
(01:42:24):
three years and Front and Center had full access. They
showed time Lakers era and Magic's rookie year. I saw
virtually every game courtside. They were an exciting, running gun style.
They had five championships. There were nine finals in twelve years.
Kobe and Shack took over nineteen ninety six. They returned
to dominance. They won three consecutive NBA championships from ninety
(01:42:45):
nine to oh one. Shack left, Kobe and Paul Gasol rebuilt.
The Lakers returned to championship contention. They won two more
titles in nine to oh ten, there was a drought.
Lebron joined the team in twenty eighteen made them relevant again.
But I've often referred to Lebron air as a bit
of a clown era. There's just drama, weirdness. In twenty
(01:43:06):
nineteen they signed them and began a new era. They
won the championship at twenty twenty. He was in the bubble,
not taking it away from him. It's what I call
the Hotel California. You can check in anytime, but you
cannot leave tournament. And everybody was in the same boat.
But you'll never convince me the Lakers didn't benefit from
the fact that didn't have to travel and they had
three or four months off to lick their wounds before
(01:43:27):
the tournament started.
Speaker 5 (01:43:28):
Be that as it made.
Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
They did win one. Now the Luca era is here,
make no mistake, and I'm calling it the no BS era.
Lucas just kind of an all business guy. Saw how
he lost the weight over the summer. You see he
plays hard. We'll see if it manifests itself in championships.
We'll see, and we'll also see what it's going to
look like this year. Sooner rather than later. Mark Thing's
(01:43:51):
Lebron could be back by Thanksgiving with his side of
a nerve a situation, and you'll still have a good
sixty five games left to go in the season, plenty
of time to get into the playoffs. And let's see
what they do. That's where they live. That's the Lakers
standard championships. But we switch gears. Hey, we're five hours
away from kickoff resumption week ten. We already had the
(01:44:14):
Raiders Broncos game on Thursday night. Five hours from now,
we'll have a game in Germany, Germany, the Indianapolis Colts.
We will see how they rebound from the situation last week.
They face Atlanta. So get your pens and pencils ready,
because you fantasy owners were coming up on crunch time.
(01:44:36):
It's time for the Fantasy Files.
Speaker 13 (01:44:40):
Fantasy Files with Brandon Deutsch, your go to fantasy football segment.
Speaker 11 (01:44:46):
Are you on one?
Speaker 14 (01:44:46):
God?
Speaker 2 (01:44:47):
When?
Speaker 3 (01:44:48):
Alrighty?
Speaker 10 (01:44:49):
What is up?
Speaker 3 (01:44:50):
Guys?
Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
Bernie?
Speaker 23 (01:44:51):
I am doing it live tonight, and I'm doing it
with a little bit of a head cold if my
voice sounds a little bit different, but we will persevere
with is a city start selection time for this and
we're gonna start with the Vonte Smith going up against
the Green Bay Packers. I mean, the upside has been
vast for a long time with him. You want to
(01:45:12):
see more consistency. We're finally seeing it with him and
Brown and this passing game. Give me Devonte Smith have
a huge game against Green Bay on a prime time matchup. Now,
I would sit Jameson Williams against the Washington Commanders.
Speaker 2 (01:45:27):
Two things.
Speaker 23 (01:45:28):
One, I'm on Ross Saint Brown as due for a
big game.
Speaker 1 (01:45:32):
He's just due.
Speaker 23 (01:45:33):
He didn't have one the last time they played. Jameson
Williams actually had a touchdown the last time they played.
And what have we seen from Jameson Williams throughout not
only this season, but his career. He has one great game,
one bad game, one great game, one bad game, and
there hasn't been a string of great games. And they're
going to be ahead the entire game, which means they
are going to run. So make sure to sit Jameson
(01:45:54):
Williams against the Washington Commanders. Start Jordan Addison against the
Baltimore Ravens. I really like this matchup for him. I
know Baltimore has looked better offensively, but defensively, they still
can't guard to Parker.
Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
We all know that.
Speaker 23 (01:46:07):
Everybody knows that. And the issue with that is you
open up for Justin Jefferson. They're gonna try and take
him away. Obviously they won't be successful, but I do
expect Addison to have no pressure on him to perform.
Obviously with their intentions to stop Justin Jefferson. Big game
for Jordan Addison against a bottom ten pass defense. Now,
(01:46:28):
this one might be a little questionable. Some people will say,
but DJ Moore against the New York Giants, Man, I
just think it's a sit. Roma Dunsay's a start at
this point. Roma Doonsa had zero fantasy points last week
and I'd still start him over Dj Moore. Roma Donzay's
dad came out on social media and was like, Roma
(01:46:49):
Dunsay needs to get the ball. Marvin Harrison's dad did
the same thing, Marvin Harrison Junior. Rather, his dad did
the same thing Marvin Harrison Junior last week and what
happened twenty plus fantasy points for Mark Harrison Junior. So
I do think Romadonze can exploit this New York Giants secondary.
We know where they have a good defensive line, they
don't have a great secondary.
Speaker 14 (01:47:09):
Sit.
Speaker 23 (01:47:09):
Dj Moore though, because Romadunza is going to have the
big day, So start Roma Dunza, sit Dj Moore, and
I would actually start Kenneth Walker against Arizona. Kenneth Walker
always gives you a nine great games. In the rest
he does absolutely nothing. I get Zach Charbonaguet's goal line touches,
but the last game he played against Arizona he was
very efficient. I like Kenneth Walker to get a touchdown
(01:47:30):
or two against the Arizona Cardinals, and which should be
a very close game actually, and I would not be
shocked if Arizona pulls off the upset. I'd sit Nick
Chubb against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Really like Jacksonville's defensive line.
I think this is a game where Houston's going to
be down the entire game, which means they're not going
to run the football. And who's their pass catching back
what he marks? It's not Nick Chubb, So I would
(01:47:53):
make sure to sit Nick Chubb, of course, and look
another guy that's a lock it and start I just
mentioned him, Marvin Errison Junior. I mean, you guys should
be starting him anyways. But people might say, oh, it's
a tough matchup at Seattle has the number one run
defense in the NFL, they don't have the number one
pass defense in the NFL. Marvin Harrison Junior has been
much better with Jacoby Brissett. I think he's going to
(01:48:15):
have an excellent, excellent, excellent matchup. And another guy I love,
Jalen Warren against the Chargers in primetime. The Steelers aren't
favored in this game, which is wild considering that they
basically have a home game because you know, Sofi Stadium
is more filled out for Rams fans, not Chargers fans,
but it's mostly the opposing team every time the Chargers
(01:48:35):
play there, and the Steelers have a vast fan base,
so Steelers need this win. Chargers down two linemen, I
think that they'll be able to control the clock the
Pittsburgh Steelers and Jalen Warren has a huge game. And
another guy that I love, lock it in start and
he should be starting every week. But I just want
to remind you guys, DeVante Adams is going to go
(01:48:55):
nuclear against San Francisco. This is a game where the
Rams are going to be super angry about the previous loss.
There's no Fred Warner this time for the San Francisco
forty nine ers, so I am going with Davante Adams
Karen Williams to both ball out and for San Francisco.
I do expect Kendrick Bourne to have another big game.
I do, even with George Kittle still back finally right
(01:49:17):
Christ McCaffrey there, I expect Kendrick Bourne not to replicate
the twenty Fantasy points that he had agains him last time.
He had like ten or eleven for one hundred and fifty,
but I do expect him to have fifteen Fantasy points
and as a solid dart throw flex option. So that
is Fantasy files for today, and let's all win our matchups.
You can find me at PSD takes on x, Brandon
s Deutsch on TikTok and Instagram. Back to the Bernie
(01:49:39):
Frado Show. Let's all win our matchups.
Speaker 2 (01:49:42):
All right, thanks a lot, and again we have our
first game here and just under five hours so it
is upon us. And I'm sure there are plenty of
owners with the Colts players and Daniel Jones players and
things of that nature. And there are buys this week
angles the Cowboys, the Chiefs and Tennessee. We are in
(01:50:03):
that time of year. But I'm sure the fantasy owners
all certainly are aware of all that. The guys are
spent a lot of time devoted to their my sons
in a league is in first place right now, they're
eight and one, and we'll see how He's got Justin
Herbert as his quarterback, and he lost his tight end
Tucker Craft, but picked up Luke and so we'll look,
(01:50:24):
we'll see how it goes. It's it's never easy, and
everybody's always dealing with, you know, either injuries or buys
or something, and juggling lineups and second guessing. So it's
become quite the thing. Fantasy football is a very big
proposition in this country, really is. That's why we have
the Fantasy files every Sunday one thirty a and Pacific
(01:50:46):
four to thirty Eastern. And again we're under five hours
away from kickoff between in Germany between the Jets to
check that, between the Colts and Atlanta coming up. You know,
the NFL Fall meetings have come and gone somewhat quietly.
Roger Goodell has well, he's been working in pro football
for four years and he's not prone to overstatement, but
(01:51:09):
he did basically say he's more excited after four to
four years, about this NFL season than ever, and we'll
talk about the subjects that came up in the NFL
fall meetings. I'm Bernie Fraddle, Where Comedy Live from the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked listening
to the Bernie Fraddle Show.
Speaker 1 (01:51:28):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radiow.
Speaker 2 (01:51:32):
We're back at the Bernie Fraddle Show. Fox Sports Radio
Company live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio students
will take you after three and Pacific six am Eastern. Now,
Roger Goodell's not wrong. Through nine weeks of play TV viewership,
they're averaging almost eighteen million per game. That's the highest
level in ten years when they set the record in
(01:51:53):
twenty fifteen. Play on the field has been pretty compelling.
A third of the games they're decided in the final
minute of regulation. And even though I hate that goofy
kickoff rule, the way it looks well, they've doubled the
kickoff return rates to seventy nine percent, which is what
the plan was. So life's good for the NFL, and
(01:52:15):
competitive balance is good. Six of the eight divisions have
leaders or co leaders that did not win their division
last year, but there's always a big bud pee wee.
There's issues though, still keeping commissioner up at night. Remember
that Pro Bowl, Remember the old Pro Bowl. I don't
know what the hell it is now. It's a cluster,
(01:52:35):
is what it is. They've reformatted the event and you've
got a new date, new locale, and what they had
flag football and some kind of I can't intelligently describe
what the hell the Pro Bowl is now, but I
know that they have to do something about the Pro
(01:52:56):
Bowl and the Pro Bowl week. It's evolved into an uncompetitive,
low contact farce. No one really wants to be there.
There was a time players loved to go to Hawaii.
The game is competitive. There was pride long gone, long gone. Look,
the Super Bowl is a two week convention for the NFL,
culminating by a game, culminated by a game. I don't
(01:53:19):
know what the Pro Bowl is anymore, but the NFL's
talking about it and they're saying it's a critical priority.
What that means, I don't know, but that was on
the docket, so we'll see what happens. One of the
things they talked about in the meetings was the eighteen
game season. The NFL has made no secret of their
desire to expand the regular season by another game, but
that's got to be collectively bargained, and the Players Association
(01:53:42):
is still the midst of They don't even have their
executive director after the resignation of Lloyd Holland July, so
they've got an interim leader right now and negotiations on
that issue are on hold. But if the expanded season happens,
it will open up a lot of new possibilities around
revenue generation, and it will increase their domestic media rights,
(01:54:05):
and I think we will open the door for additional
international play. So the negotiatings around the hole will make
no mistake. They're headed for a collision course on that,
and I believe the NFL will get their eighteenth game
and the union. There will be more money in the
coffers for the players Union. Now, the touch push has
come up many times on this show. I've had it
(01:54:26):
as a as a subject matter in the Midnight Hour.
I got no beef for the touch pusch. If you
don't like it, stop it. I know that one of
the rationale in terms of perhaps eliminating it. Someone talked
about the injury factor. That's fortune cookie wisdom. There aren't
any injuries in the toush Puss that anybody can remember.
(01:54:47):
There's been a proposed measure to kill this, you know,
heavily debated short yardage play. It failed in May, but
that's really not the end of the story. Since the
new season's unfolded, the tush push has only gotten more
difficult to officiate in real time, and the replace you
know show early movement by linemen. And it's not certain
(01:55:08):
whether a new measures of band to play will surface
in the off season. I predicting you won't because the
team that that you know wrote the referendum to get
it turned over in the first place is sort of
backed off their demand. There's one team that doesn't well,
the Philadelphia Eagles. Other people have versions of it, they
(01:55:30):
don't do it as well. And even the Eagles tricked
everybody when they line up in the touch push. It
ended up throwing a pass or running an end run
or something. So look, from an officiating standpoint, that's a
bit of a cluster. I get it. They've got to
get better at identifying when someone is in the neutral
zone and when someone leaves a little early. But beyond that,
I just think it's a lot of sour grapes because
(01:55:52):
teams can't stop it, and the Eagles seem to have
cornered the market on the touch push TV viewership has
talked about it's not about on eyeballs. That's not an
issue because when the NFL is king, whenever they're on TV,
they beat everything else by a considerable margin. However, you
(01:56:14):
know they're having some issue with the Nielsen Agency, the
measurement agency, and the NFL has raised the flag and
see what I did there, as it pertains to the
belief the NFL believes that the the the you know,
the Nielsen people, they're the the they're the official measurement agency,
(01:56:38):
that it's all their viewerships not being counted due to
what are considered to be perceived gaps in their methodologies.
I don't know. I just don't know. Maybe the NFL,
maybe there's even more people watching is not being captured.
Bad Buddy came up. So unless you've been under a
rock or living on Mars or not. Bugs Bunny, not
(01:57:02):
the crazy wabbit. We talk about Bad Bunny the rapper.
He is a rapper from Puerto Rico and Roger Goodell,
I guess took some heat for saying that Bad Bunny
would be the halftime show, but he stood pat at
the meetings and he affirmed there'll be no change. Bad
Bunny will be the headliner. And he's a bit of
(01:57:25):
a bit of a lightning rod. He's been you know, criticized,
and so long and short of it is, the super
Bowl halftime show is going to generate significant viewership like
it always does, and Roger Goodell went on to say,
I'm not sure we've ever selected an artist where we
(01:57:46):
didn't have some blowback or criticism. Yeah, I'm gonna have
to go ahead and disagree with you there, Bill Lumberg.
We covered the super Bowl in two thousand and six,
and I don't believe anybody was pissed off about Mick
Jagger and the Rolling Stones or when they had the
Motown show, or I don't know, did anybody start a
protest where they did up with people back in nineteen
(01:58:06):
sixty seven or whatever the hell it was. There've been
some damn good halftime shows most and most people don't
I don't watch them, not that you care, but I
don't watch them. But some of the good ones I watched.
The Bears want a new stadium and new stadiums for
(01:58:27):
the Bills and Titans. You know the one if you've
seen in the Buffalo Bills on TV. I still call
it the old Rich Stadium, the beautiful, big, beautiful stadium
right next door. It's just about finished. And Tennessee there's
as well in the construction the Commanders and Browns. Apparently
they're making headway and getting you know, dome versions of
(01:58:49):
their own new stadiums. The Bengals, Cincinnati Bengals recently got
approval for a major renovation. The Chiefs they're even considering options.
I hope they never leave that area though, if you've
ever been to a game, I still call it Arrowhead.
It's just so cool, right next to Kaufman Stadium, where
the world's play. But the Bears have issues. They want
to build a five billion dollars stadium and mixed use
(01:59:11):
development on their own land way out in suburban Arlington Heights,
and they say they'll pay for most of it themselves.
But it's getting a lot of sharp criticism from lawmakers
because there's a lot of unresolved issues now. Roger Goodell,
even though it came up at the meeting, he did
not commit to getting more directly involved in the political
(01:59:34):
landscape there in Illinois, but he did say the league
is available to do so if the Bears seek their help.
All right, But moreover, Roger Goodoll's very excited about all
the new stadiums popping up, with these multi generational new
facilities that are glorified. I mean, they're beautiful. They're a huge,
(01:59:55):
big conglomerate edifices that have mas of you know, party,
you know, room to whole parties and suites and all
that kind of stuff. So anyway, the Fall meetings don't
necessarily make a lot of headway in terms of media coverage,
but they're there. But I'll tell you what did a
(02:00:16):
pretty raucous trade deadline this last week. If you found
yourself looking at the trade line deadline Tuesday and saying, wow,
this seems like a lot busier than usual, you were right.
I'll talk about the winners and losers of the NFL
trade deadline. Coming up, it's Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
(02:00:37):
That's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fraddle Show keeps
rolling right along. My name is Bernie fraddermock comany lion
for the Fox Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas
take up to three in Pacific six am Eastern. We're
only four and a half hours away from the resumption
of Week ten in the NFL, another international game in Germany.
(02:00:58):
The Colts believe their six point favorites over the Atlanta Falcons.
So Tuesday was the NFL trade deadline, and most of
the time it's relatively non existent in terms of the
mainstream and headlines. But if you were on the impression
(02:01:19):
that this year was a little different and busier, your
impressions were right. There were eight trades, eight trades made
on Tuesday before the four o'clock Eastern deadline. That's tied
for the second most deals on deadline in the last
thirty five years. Now, between October first and the deadline,
(02:01:40):
there were eighteen trades. That's also tied for the most
during that time span. A lot of them were inconsequential,
like I bet you bet you didn't drop your fork
when you heard the Bears acquired reserve defensive end Joe
Tyron Shrinka. I didn't either. But there were some blockbusters
hop out the New York Jets. They completely blew it up,
(02:02:04):
as probably they should have. They're one and seven. They're
not going anywhere. So New York was widely expected to
be an active seller at the deadline. But who they
sold is what came as a surprise. They showed the
door to two former All Pro players, cornerback Sauce Gardner.
He went to the Colts. I'm assuming he's going to
play in Germany, and defensive tackle Quinn and Williams to
(02:02:27):
the Cowboys. And they actually brought They got a boatload
of draft picks in a return. Okay, now, the Sauce
Gardner trade was the most significant of any of the
deals made during the entire deadline period, in part because
of what the Colts had to give up to acquire him.
They gave up two first round picks and a receiver,
a Donna Mitchell, and also because remember, Sauce Gardner had
(02:02:51):
just been signed to a fairly big contract extension just
five months ago. Four months ago, Gardner's four year extension
made him the highest paid corner in the NFL and
an average of thirty million dollars per year. But I
believe the Colts are very happy to get him. He's
going to join a Colts defense has been good, but
not great against the pass. Indianapolis the only ranks twenty
(02:03:14):
sixth in passing yards allowed per game, but that's misleading
well because the Colts have played much of the season
with big leads and forcing their opponents to go through
the air on the fourth quarter. But be that as
it may, the Indianapolis is respectable now and adding Gardner
should only strengthen their pass defense now. The return Dallas
(02:03:37):
scot Or checked at the return the Jets got for
Quinn Williams was also pretty lofty. The Cowboys, well, they
gave up a second round pick in twenty twenty six
and a first rounder in twenty twenty seven, as well
as defensive tackle Mazzie Smith out of Michigan, who really
isn't panned out in the NFL like I thought he would.
But I we had a caller from New York earlier.
(02:04:01):
I think it was Kenny. He was ripping Quinn Williams
and he would know okay, so he probably saw more
than I did. I high hopes for the guy coming
into the league. He hasn't performed and that's why he
was expendable, but Dallas had to give a boatload to
get him. The good news is he signed through this season.
Next season, in the twenty seventh season. So if he
(02:04:22):
can straighten up and fly right in Dallas, I'm not
saying it makes up for Michael Parsons, but what I
am saying is Dallas got themselves, I think a potentially
very good player. So who were the real winners and
losers of the NFL trade deadline this past week. Well,
(02:04:42):
I'm gonna start with Sauce Gardner, who I just mentioned
because it's shocking again he just signed one hundred and
twenty million dollar contract extension in July. But it's also impactful.
I didn't even know if Soas Gardner was in the
trade mill and then all of a sudden it's announced,
(02:05:02):
And at the time of the extension looks like it
looked like the Jets were committed to SaaS Gardner for
the long term. But then they trade him five months later,
and all of a sudden, the team friendly deal. We
now know why that he gets it a team friendly deal.
His signing bonus, Gardner's signing bonets when it hits the
Jets books this year, He's only you know, thirteen million
(02:05:27):
in dead cat money because most of Gardner's guaranteed money
was an option bonuses down the road. Allah show, Yeah, TONI,
but nothing quite like that. Look, Gardner is only twenty
five years old. The Colts get a good player, a
good bargain the cost of an average of about twenty
six million, they remaining five years in a deal. And
(02:05:48):
if he he's considered more valuable than the other two
top corners Derek Stingley Junior and Patrick's are Tan or
pats are Tann the second in Denver who's currently injured.
He's considered one of the best top ten covered players
in the NFL. He's having a bad year in New York.
(02:06:08):
This year he was his numbers were not good, but
allegedly Gardner was blindsided by the deal. He did not
ask to get out of New York. But now he
goes from a team that only won one game all
year to a team that's only lost two games in year.
That's a big move up in the standings. And if Gardner,
(02:06:29):
you know, is he is he it becomes that type
of lockdown player that the Jets needed him to be,
even though the Jets needed a lot more than that.
It's a big win for Gardner, it's a big win
for the Colts and again coming off that extension. It's
good to be Sauce Gardner right now. The Colts have
(02:06:50):
weakness at the cornerback. There's their cornerback two as long
as Shivaris war is injured, and their linebackers are not
great in pass coverage, so they need Garden to return
to his twenty twenty three for him because he can
take away one side of the field. It's a win
for Safts Gardner. Deadline loser. I think the Cowboys are
going to be considered losers in the trade deadline because
(02:07:13):
although Jerry Jones has said he's obsessed with fixing Dallas's
run defense so far, you know, it's like saying the
operation was a great success, but the patient died, all right,
Dallas's defense couldn't stop a nosebleed. Now, Quinnon Williams is
(02:07:34):
theoretically a big, reliable run defender, and he's still got
you know, the rest of this season, and his contract
ends when he's twenty nine. They got it for a
total of forty seven million for all three years. I mean,
that's almost as much as Michael Parsons makes in one year.
So nothing against Michael Parsons, but the truth of the
(02:07:55):
matter is Dallas really would have been in salary cap. Hell,
had they kept Michael Parsons, you'd had three players Ceee Lamb,
Dak Prescott, Michael Parsons take up fifty percent of the
salary cap. And I'm not you know, I'm kind of
impressed with the way Brian Schottenheimer's conducted himself in this
big mess. But when you consider how much teams like
(02:08:19):
Dallas give up, if you just judge his trade in
a vacuum, you remember, you remember the Cowboys traded Parsons
away for two first rounders, all right, and now they
give away a first and a second and they get
Quinn Williams and they're paying Quinn Williams with the money
they would have used in part to pay Parsons. So hypothetically,
(02:08:44):
this could work out for Dallas, but if you're really
break it down, it's not smart business. Although you never
I'll never bag on Jerry. I know people love the
bag on the guy. I'm just not one of them.
But I can't say Dallas came out small like a
rose in the trade deadline. Here's a winner. Jacoby Myers,
a wide receiver of the Raiders. Okay, this last summer
(02:09:06):
he really wanted to be traded. He requested to move
over the summer, and now he gets traded. But in
much the same way, Jacoby Myers was a winner because
for some reason he wanted out of Las Vegas. He's
a loser because his new home in Jacksonville. I don't
know that the Jacksonville Jaguars offense is appreciably better than
(02:09:30):
the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (02:09:31):
Not good.
Speaker 2 (02:09:32):
Raiders passing offense not good. Raiders' offense not good. This
is a team that would have troubles scoring in a
women's prison with a fifth full of fifties. And by
the way, Travis Hunters out and Brian Thomas and Dianmi
Brown are not healthy. So that's going to create our
opportunity for Jacoby Myners, at least in the short term.
(02:09:54):
But he turns twenty ninety as one year remaining on
his deal. He could generate a solid market for himself
if he, you know, has a good year this year.
But you know, I don't see Jacksonville as a playoff team,
and it just they're not buttoned up right now. It's
not his best landing spot. I think Jakobe Myers would
(02:10:17):
have been a double winner if you ended up in
some place like New England or Pittsburgh, but he's happy
to be out of Los Angeles. Another deadline loser, with
all due respect the New Orleans Saints. They traded Rashid
Shaheed to the Seahawks for a fourth and fifth round selection.
They got a decent return, all right. It's frustrating though,
(02:10:37):
because the Saints acquire a twenty seven year old receiver
this year where they sent a fourth and seventh round
pick to the Broncos, and he's barely contributed to the
Saints offense. So the Saints Cats got worset whide receiver
in the past few months, and they're losing talent, and
they're gaining in cap space, but they're losing talent. I
(02:10:58):
guess I'm gonna have to go the deadline winner. The
Jets a deadline winner for if you are willing to
fast forward to twenty twenty seven. Okay, Now the Jets
start out, they ship off two of their best young players,
although I know that the Quinn Williams that's going to
be debatable. But they added three first round picks, a
(02:11:19):
second pick, second round pick, two young players in a
matter of four hours. Now, in terms of long team
I'll check that long term, a long term view on
reconstructing this team. The Jets have a chance to turn
their over, you know, the roster, in much the same
way the Lions did a few years ago. Think about
(02:11:40):
how Detroit nailed the twenty twenty three draft because they
got two first round picks and two second round picks.
They got Jamiir Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Sam Laporte, and Brian
branch not bad well. The Jets have two first and
two seconds next year. Also, one loaded draft class can
fundamentally change a franchise's future. You don't believe me. Paigrin
(02:12:02):
herkle herschel Walker nineteen eighty nine, that built the foundation
of the Cowboys to win three Super Bowls in the nineties.
I'm not saying this is that. But as you can see,
the Lions have been very relevant in the last three years.
And all those players I just mentioned, Jack Campbell and
Brian Branch on defense, Sam laport and Jamier Games Out offense.
(02:12:24):
They're all franchise type players. So the Jets are a
winner in this year's draft deadline if you fast forward
to twenty twenty seven, but they're also a loser when
it comes to twenty twenty five. Okay, so to add
(02:12:45):
some similars to be clear about this, you can understand
at least in theory of what the Jets are doing
and why they're doing it, But everything else beyond that
is theoretical. It's hypothetical future drafts. You hope they work out,
But as Arnie likes to say, the shows tonight, the
(02:13:08):
games are today. The Jets lost two excellent young players. Okay,
those are the types of players they hope to draft
and develop over the next two draft classes. So you know,
I've backed down the Raiders call me an idiot, but
I still think they should have never traded Khalil Mack.
I was told they'd be in Sally cap Hell, but
what the hell have they done with it since? And
(02:13:30):
they shouldn't have traded Josh Jacobs, but they did so
they got action gent and I don't know who. Look,
Max Crofty's a fine player, but what are they doing?
So you can move chess pieces around? But you know,
the risk reward is always something you really have to weigh.
Because the in every major league sport, make no mistake,
(02:13:52):
the future is now. Fan bases are impatient and picks
and plans are gambles. You gotta make smart ones. Now
on paper, it looks like the Jets have, but for today,
when the game is played, they got dramatically worse on defense.
They lost young stars, all pro players stole in their prime.
(02:14:13):
You gotta be honest here, some very good top flight
players who were certainly highly regarded were sent packing in
New York so the new front office and new coaching
staff could have a better chance with a blank slate,
to build it their way with the stockpiling of draft choices.
Not a guarantee, I see, does guarante? You know those
(02:14:37):
disclaimers future you know, if future performance is not guaranteed
or something, whatever the hell it says. You know what
I'm trying to say. They're trying to build a competitive roster,
but they're down two players that they thought they were
building a competitive roster with when they were drafted three
years ago, Sauce Gardner and Quinn Williams. If you're telling
me the Jets are better this week then they were
(02:14:59):
last week, I'm saying no, And they weren't very good
last week and now they're worse. But when you trade
good players away, you get draft capital. Here's a chance
to remake yourself. How about one deadline winner the Baltimore Ravens.
They executed three trades before the deadline this year. They
(02:15:21):
got an edge rusher Dumont Jones from Tennessee. And since
we by the way, by the way, I'm not going
to go for all their trades. The truth of the
matter is Baltimore has been thin along the defensive line
all season, and Jones is going to provide snaps on
the edge and the interior, and he's got a high
(02:15:44):
ceiling and he provides depth. And so in terms of
the Alohai Gildman trade, the safety the Ravens acquired with
the fifth rounder from the Chargers in exchange for A
Daffiola and a seventh rounder, he's already made a big impact.
Remember that you October you can start trading October first.
This was just the deadline. The Ravens also sent Jaire
(02:16:05):
Alexander and the seventh round pick to the Eagles for
a sixth So the Ravens, if you pay close attention,
had a good deadline. The New England Patriots not so much.
Of all the teams that stood pad at the deadline,
as you notice, Tampa Bay didn't do anything. Denver didn't
do anything. The Steelers didn't do anything. I think it's
surprising that the Patriots didn't. The Colt Scott aggressive they
(02:16:29):
wanted a blue chip player. You can see what they're
trying to do. But the Patriots have really shown flashes
are looking like a legitimate AFC contender. Drake May is
everything you could ever want for in a young quarterback
and he's playing on a rookie contract. The Patriots do
have good depth along their interior lines, solid play. They
(02:16:51):
got French starters that play well, and I think they
could have made a move or two to you turned
them into a team that could make noise in the playoffs.
But again, water under the bridge. Finally, one deadline loser,
running back Breshall. I thought for sure Bresaw was gonna
(02:17:14):
end up in Kansas City. I think there was dialogue,
The Chiefs were interested. Breswall wanted out. At the end
of the day, Bresall is staying in New York. He
even tweeted out saying you wanted He was implying he
wanted to get out of New York and then waited
by his phone and the call never came. So Brisall, unfortunately,
(02:17:34):
I think is a Bristall's not a loser, but in
terms of the deadline, he trade deadline aspect of Brestaw's career,
he didn't come out of winter. I think it's a
little surprising the Jets didn't move Brisaw. I was told
they wanted a fourth round pick and the Chiefs would
only offer a fifth round pick. I don't know. I
(02:17:57):
didn't do that much research like I've done with some
of the things. But he's having a good season. Bristaw
is only twenty four years old, should have another full
contracts worth a good football ahead of them. It's always
he could be franchise tagged fourteen million, transition tagged, and
that's relatively cheap these days, even for the running back position.
So you know, Bresaw seems like a really good dude.
(02:18:19):
I can't picture of making a stink this offseason. Try
to get out of New York to go to a
more competitive team. But the Jets hold all the cards.
Then they can retain him and control them for another year.
But again, the Chiefs, who need better play for the
running back position desperately. Man, that would have been cool
seeing brees Haall in Kansas City. I thought for sure
he was going there, I really did, but he didn't.
(02:18:40):
So he'll be stuck in New York grinding away three
or three or four yards of carry while the Jets
attempt to impersonate an NFL team. By the way, if

Speaker 2 (02:19:37):
All right back at the Bernie Fradtile Show Fox Sports Radio.
Before we get to the world of soccer, we'd like
to get something off my chest. Here's a team in
the National Football League that's believe there's seven and two
and people are calling them frauds. I'm gonna address them
a second, but always cracks me up into that team's
(02:19:58):
a fraud. There a fraud. I have a little bit
of a law background, and I well a little fun
here for you law buffs out there. And this is
why I would It always bugs me when I hear
somebody calling a team of fraud. There are five elements
of fraud in the legal world. One, you have to
provide a false statement as a material fact.
Speaker 3 (02:20:20):
Right.
Speaker 2 (02:20:22):
Let's say like you're trying to get somebody to invest
in your business, but you give a false statement to
potential investors. The second thing is you knew the information
was giving you were giving was correct. Okay, the information
you gave was incorrect, right, but you knew it was incorrect,
(02:20:43):
you did it anyway. And the third part of the
element of fraud is you intended. You intended to deceive
the victim. Fraud is intentional. You cannot accidentally deceive somebody
or mist lead somebody. You intend to deceive them, right,
you provide a false statement as if it was a
material fact, you knew the information was incorrect. And three,
(02:21:05):
you intended to deceive the victim. The fourth element is
the victim relied on your false statement. They counted on
the information that you gave them as being gospel. But
the fifth element, and this is perhaps the most important one,
the victim had to suffer damage as a result of
(02:21:27):
trusting and relying on your false information, and you have
to mitigate your law. You have to show damages. Okay,
these are the five elements that comprise fraud charges. So
when someone says that team's a fraud, are they really
intending to deceive you and lose games? And they're telling
(02:21:49):
you what they're trying to do and you're relying on
their statement, it's false and you suffered real damages because
they intended to deceive you. So they're talking about the
Denver Broncos odd narrative is gaining traction because, well, I
get it that the offense has been inconsistent. They do
have a strong defense, but you don't go seven to
two in the National Football League by accident. Now, critics
(02:22:13):
are gonna say, yeah, they're winning, but they're winning by
the skin of their teeth, and they're winning close games
and they're relying on their defense, and their defense isn't
gonna be able to carry them all year. But the
defenses is very much a strength. They lead the league
in sacks, and the defense is going to keep them
in any game. Defense travels. The offense is drawing a
(02:22:33):
lot of heavy criticism because well, they've been inconsistent. The
National Football League is easy, and people say, well, you know,
they're living in dying in one score games. That's the
symptom of not being a great team, but rather a
team they can't put teams away. So the public perception
and the fraud label of the narrative, the group think
(02:22:54):
echo chamber chamber is starting to you know, characterized the
Broncos as frauds, even though they still have the tenth
pet dodds to win the Super Bowl according to FanDuel.
Although people say they don't deserve to be there three
reasons they think Bodenecks is way too inconsistent and uh,
(02:23:14):
Thursday night, a lot of penalties and the offense looked
not great and they're putting that on bo Nix. He
played his worst game of the season, sixteen to twenty
eight for a buck fifty. Struggled to run too, but
they won, okay, and this is a national win. The
game that's right, thank you. And the bottom line is, look,
(02:23:36):
I covered the Lions for ten years and I covered
at TV one one sixteen, two thousand and eight, two
thousand and eight. Yeah, Rod Marinelli. So if you win,
you win.
Speaker 3 (02:23:46):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:23:46):
The running game has also not been great JK. Dobbins.
You know Grant for seventy seven yards, which is a
little deceiving because most of those were in the fourth
quarter and the Broncos were trying to sult the game away.
But the narrative is the Broncos win close games, are
inconsistent bolnecks. Isn't that good? And the belief is that
(02:24:09):
the defense can't carry the offense all season. Now I
don't I don't agree with that. I don't agree with that.
Did you forget what they did ten years ago against
Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. You know, Peyton Manning
was was at the very end of his game. Now,
(02:24:29):
he threw a past the beginning of the name across
the seam that went for fifteen yards. It was awesome,
But it was really the Broncos defense that won that
Super Bowl. And we've seen the We've seen the Ravens
do that with Trent dilferd Okay, but the narrative is
also that this Bronco defense hasn't really been tested and
(02:24:51):
a better offense could put up points. And yes, the
Broncos defense dominated the Raiders, but what will look like
when they play the Chiefs or the charge Argers. Okay? Now,
by the way, the Broncos have already played the Chargers
and lost twenty three to twenty Week three. They also
lost twenty nine to twenty to the Indianapolis Colts. However,
they did beat the Philadelphia Eagles. So in Week eleven,
(02:25:15):
the Broncos are going to host Mahomes in Kansas City
in Chiefs, and then they'll head to the Washington Commanders.
They won't have to face Jade Daniels. Then they'll head
to Green Bay, and then they got a Christmas Day
game at Arrowhead Stadium against the Chiefs and Chargers. So
at some point the narrative will be the Broncos are
living up to what their building was hopefully was. But
(02:25:36):
I'm not calling on frauds. Okay, they still think they're
going to the playoffs. It just said it's a common
moniker that people unfairly put on teams when they're rooting
against them, or perhaps they're not living up to the
potential that people thought they had. But I do not
believe you could be seven to two and be a
(02:25:57):
fraud in the National Football League. Trust me, I covered
an NFL team for ten years. It ain't easy going
seven to two. So we'll see where it goes from here.
Maybe we'll revisit this, Maybe we'll do this in a
midnight hour coming up. In the meantime, we covered all
here on the Bernie Fraddle Show, including the sports felt futbol,
football that we call soccer. It's time for Chris Perfett's
(02:26:19):
World of Soccer.
Speaker 13 (02:26:21):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drum.
Speaker 1 (02:26:34):
Hi, it's all here in this report from the world
of Soccer.
Speaker 24 (02:26:41):
Well, Bernie, here we are.
Speaker 25 (02:26:42):
We are at the doorstep of the final match of
Round one of the MLS Cup playoffs. So just in
case we've all forgotten how the MLS Cup format works,
just because it seems to change almost every year, and
you might as well rite the rules on a whiteboard.
Round one, which is actually after the wild card, is
(02:27:02):
a best of three, and then the conference semi finals,
the Conference finals in the MLS Cup itself are all
single elimination matches, as was the wildcard round before this
for eight versus nine, So this is the only round
that is best of three. We've already seen Philadelphia, New
York City, Cincinnati, Minnesota, LAFC, and Vancouver all move on.
(02:27:25):
On Sunday, you will have San Diego against the Portland Timbers.
But I want to talk about Leonel Messi because this
is the Leonel Messi we've kind of been promised for
these playoffs. After a bit of a slump near the
end of the year, Leonel Messi turned on against Atlanta
on the penultimate game of the MLS season back in October,
(02:27:47):
he had two goals. Against Nashville on the final game
of the regular season, he had three, and then you
pull Nashville again in the Round one of the MLS Cup.
Speaker 24 (02:27:58):
In the first game which Miami won, he had two goals.
Speaker 25 (02:28:01):
Then he had a goal last Saturday and a losing
effort which gave us a defining Game three between Inter
Miami and Nashville. And that game, which is now final,
saw Leonel Messi score a brace, which is two goals.
Speaker 24 (02:28:16):
So did his teammate Allende. So four nil. Your final
score inter Miami.
Speaker 25 (02:28:21):
Moving on, you can start to do the math here
on how many goals Messi has suddenly been up to
in the last five matches he's played, not counting, of course,
the international Argentinian appearance against Puerto Rico, but in MLS
that racks up to about ten goals in five matches.
It's a tremendous, eye watering, staggering amount. And has Lionel
(02:28:46):
Messi been saving himself for the MLS Cup playoffs, Well,
we would hope. So he is the weapon, he is
their best chance, and he is what they want to
put on the big stage. It is again, if you've
missed some of this, I cannot blame you. It is
on Apple TV Plus and the MLS Season pass. Apple
TV Plus has kind of become the home for a
(02:29:07):
lot of, shall we say, the international style of sports,
especially as they also picked up Formula one, which was
in a lot of people's wheelhouse. Some early mornings amongst
some have been trend you sorts kind of like what
you know soccer was for a long time, with more
healed sports fans in the Eastern United States getting up
early for the Premier League like I do. Although I
(02:29:29):
kind of do that because I am a freak and
I love this sport. So we'll have to keep an
eye as the MLS Cup continues. Meanwhile, out in Europe,
a real shake up.
Speaker 24 (02:29:40):
In the Premier League.
Speaker 25 (02:29:41):
Arsenal actually got held to a two two draw at
Sunderland on Saturday. It has stopped them from really opening
up a massive lead here at the third way mark
of the Premier League season, they now set only six
points above Chelsea, man City and aforementioned Sunderland at nineteen
(02:30:02):
on their heels, while Liverpool has kind of dropped into
a tied with for five to six with Tottenham. The
defending champions after a tremendous start once again have dropped
four games since we last I think really talked a
lot about it. They got their teeth kicked in in
the Carabell Cup by Crystal Palace. They dropped a match
(02:30:25):
a while back to Manchester United before then going on
a tear picking up two wins in the Premier League
and also picking up two wins in the Champions League,
which is ongoing and we'll touch on that soon enough.
But this match here eleven thirty am Eastern Time on
November ninth, Sunday, Liverpool at Manchester City might be a
(02:30:46):
pretty good test for both clubs, especially for Liverpool to
get back on track and try to get to what
we expect the boys Manfield to do. Manchester City has
been getting back to form. It's not at six, one,
one and three. Maybe it's not the most dominant start
they've had, but Earling Holland looks fantastic. How fantastic you ask.
(02:31:07):
He's gotten ten starts in the Premier League and he
has thirteen goals, and with the twenty twenty six World
Cup draw just a month away, Norway, the country of
which Holland belongs to, has two more matches to play,
once against Estonia and one against Italy, who's three points
behind them. They sit atop the standings right now in
(02:31:27):
Group I. If they get number one, they automatically qualify
for the World Cup. Position two qualifies for the World
Cup playoffs. There's a good chance they'll be in there.
Estonia should probably be easy points for them at a
plus twenty six goal differential, which is extremely eye watering
to see right now. Italy and Norway already played once
(02:31:48):
so far in these qualifiers, and we must remind people
that the tiebreaker would go to gold differential here, of
which Norway has a massive lead. But in case Norway
does stumble, it does leave a final match against Italy
at the end of the qualifier rounds. I've got to say,
come the World Cup, Norway will absolutely be a country
to keep an eye on. And I would say eighty
(02:32:10):
percent of that is because of Earling Holland. We mentioned
his pace for man City thirteen goals and ten matches.
Well for Norway he's had twelve goals in six matches.
We'll see you next time, Bernie. On the world of soccer,
all right, the world of soccer.
Speaker 2 (02:32:26):
And we're spout six seven weeks a week from six
or seven weeks away from the new year, which means
we will be in another World Cup year, which is
when we started this old World Cup Soccer thing back
in twenty twenty two. Heading into November and Friday after Thanksgiving,
all the anticipation with you know, the US and England,
(02:32:51):
and of course it you know, deflated like a tijan
a breastand plant. But one of these days, maybe or
maybe not, the US team will make us proud. The
World Cup's a big event and it's the coming to
North America, so we'll have plenty of reportage on that
coming up. We wrap up the show and oh, by
the way, we've got show he Tani we've had each year.
(02:33:16):
Oh we have Yamamoto is perhaps a Japanese Babe ruth
poised to come across the Pacific Ocean and playing the
major leagues next year. I'll fill you in on the details.
I'm Bernie fraddlework Company line from Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie
(02:33:37):
Fradle Show on fire.
Speaker 1 (02:33:39):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (02:33:44):
All right, we're wrapping it up on the Bernie Fradle Show.
I want to thank my producers, Mark and Brandon while
the professionalism, hard work, keeping a plane in the air,
keeping the show on the air. Thank you very much. Clearly,
the influence of Japanese Major League Baseball players has greatly
(02:34:09):
enhanced the fandom of Major League Baseball and the success
we were treated to Itchiro for the past couple of decades,
and of course Shoheotani, and it goes much deeper than that.
Yaomota was phenomenal in the World Series. MVP Rookio Sasaki
now don't look now, but you're about to most likely
(02:34:32):
hear about a gentleman soon if you haven't already. And oh,
by the way, he entered Friday, something called the posting system.
That's the process. It starts, essentially the Japanese free agency.
This is a twenty five year old gentleman who's already
(02:34:55):
had two hundred and forty six home runs in his
Japanese you know, major League baseball playing career. It's called
the Nippon Professional Baseball League. He's a left haned slugger.
He's a third baseman. In twenty twenty two, he won
the Triple Crown and set the single season home run
record of fifty six home runs. And he said, well,
(02:35:16):
wait a minute, I thought Sadaharu oh was the champion
home run king in Japan. Well he was. For his career,
he ate under the sixty eight home runs, but the
most all ever hit in the season was fifty five.
Did it back in nineteen sixty four? Tuffey Roads tied
it in two thousand and one, and all of a sudden,
(02:35:38):
this gentleman, Munataka Murakami hit fifty five. Checked that fifty
six home runs in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 3 (02:35:46):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:35:47):
This last year he only played a limited number of
games due to an oblique injury, still hit twenty two
home runs in fifty five games. And for his career,
he played for the Tokyo Yakult Swap and his career
averages two seventies at two hundred and forty six home
runs in his career seven hundred and twenty two RBIs
(02:36:08):
Now he does strike out a lot. When you consider
he's hit two hundred and forty six home runs in
only eight hundred and ninety two games, that equates to,
you know what, just under averaging fifty home runs a year.
(02:36:28):
So just to understand how this works, there's a thing
called the posting period, and the Tokyo Swallows posted Maurakami
just Friday, which is the first day he could do it. Now,
he has a forty five day window to negotiate and
sign with any of the thirty Major League Baseball teams,
which opened up Saturday, Yesterday, November twenty eighth, eight eight
(02:36:51):
o'clock in the morning Eastern time. It's going to last
for forty five days, So Monday, Umber twenty second, at
five o'clock Eastern time, the window to negotiate and sign
for Murrakammi with any of the Major League Baseball teams.
Can you imagine the teeth nashing if the Dodgers get
(02:37:11):
this guy, Well, they already got Max Munsey. He's a
left anything third baseman. You imagine he's twenty five years old. Again,
Murray Commedy's twenty five years old. He's actually played eight
seasons in the NPB, and he is not subject to
any of Major League Baseball's international bonus pool restrictions. He
can actually sign for a contract of any size. Now,
(02:37:32):
there are fees if you if you sign Murrikami, any team,
any Major League Baseball team that signs Murrikami, they'll pay
a posting fee to the Tokyo Swallows, and it's basically
calculated on the total guaranteed value of his contract. So
they'll pay twenty percent of the first twenty five million
that's five million bucks, seventeen and a half percent of
(02:37:52):
the next twenty five and fifty percent of Mini mioun
over fifty So that's not a chump change. Now, the
rumors as to what Murakami is gonna draw or command
in terms of a salary, and by the way, the
previous record for a Japanese position player Masataki Yoshida signed
(02:38:15):
a five year, ninety million dollar deal. They are projecting
that this gentleman, the Babe Ruth of Japan, Mudataka Murakami,
will sign a deal for most likely in the area
of six years about one hundred and forty million, could
be as high as one hundred and fifty eight million.
He has tremendous upside give it. His agress is only
(02:38:35):
twenty five, and his power. Some analysts think he could
even get a two hundred million dollar deal or even
more like other young sluggers like Austin Riley. Got Now,
who who are the teams that Murakami is expected to
draw the most interest from?
Speaker 1 (02:38:53):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (02:38:54):
Come on, Yankees, Mets, Cubs usual suspect talking about the
giants in the mid Oh? Yeah, did I forget to
mention the Los Angeles Dodgers. Can you imagine the teeth
gnashing that some poor people have if the Dodgers get
Munataka Murakami. So this is a guy who's got tremendous
(02:39:17):
slugging prowess. He can also play first base and there
are He's not the only Asian player coming over, but
he's considered the crown jewel of a deep class of players,
but imagine that a left handed hitting third baseman two
hundred and forty six home runs. By the way, don't
poop poo this because the Dodgers added choe Yo Tani
(02:39:37):
two years ago, they won the World Series, added Yoshinobu
Yamamoto this last year, and they're both worth every petty.
They led the Los Angeles Dodgers to World Series victories,
and the Dodgers guaranteed more than a billion to sign
Otani as a free agent, and they plug Yamamoto for
the Orcs Buffaloes through the same posting season that Murakami
(02:39:57):
is coming through now, so keep an eye on it.
We're gonna f all the story, all right, Munataka Murakamedi,
the Japanese Babe Ruth. The bidding will begin. It'll be
done by the December twenty second, and we'll see which
team gets him. It's gonna do it for the Bernie
Frattle Show. See in a couple of weeks. Don't go anywhere,
