Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Wow, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time a week. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We are
comedy in Line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. We'll take you up to three m Pacific,
six am Eastern, and my goodness, do we have an
absolute jam pack show tonight. We're gonna get to it all.
Little Lebron stuff, Shadore, the Lakers sold, even Steven A Smith,
(00:28):
brand new Foo, what my name? We run the full gamut,
full of stories and hijinks, but we begin with the
two most notable words in sports. Game seven. We are
about what eighteen hours away something of that nature from
a Game seven, which I'm very much looking forward to.
(00:49):
But what's interesting is, and I'm gonna tie this together.
I promise you I'm gonna button this up with a
nice little bow. What came to my mind? Lily Tomlin
actre Sally Tomlin, who once said I always wanted to
be something in life. I just wish I'd been more specific,
(01:12):
because after Lebron was insistent on once again putting forth
one of his inscrupulous, sir, inscrutable, there's no suitorites in
scrupulous I sound like a lebron inscrutable oratory about ring culture.
This from the guy who did nothing but chase rings
for two and a half decades, and he got four
(01:34):
of them with three different teams. Give the devil his due.
And oh, by the way, who in the hell stand up,
raise your hand, beep your horn if you're one of
the people that's been disrespecting Allen Iverson and Charles Barklay
and John Stockton and Steve Nash and Carl Malone and
Ernie Banks and Ty Cobb and Barry Bonds, and you
(01:55):
get the picture. Who exactly has been disrespected him because
they don't have ring But see what I What I
did next is I did It's the only thing you
can do, and that is you get out your lebron
to English dictionary and say what is he really trying
to say?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Here?
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I got it? I got it translation, I'm stuck on
four rings. I ain't never going to win a damn
another run. Bring I got four, it's pretty good, but
I ain't magic. He's got five or a courier Jordan
is sure as the only Bill Russell, But damn it,
I'm gonna go just ask me, but I'll never get
another ring, So why are we so hung up on
(02:32):
ring culture? And as my my grain headache increased and
my teeth itched even more every word Lebron said, I
suddenly realized there's an interesting juxtaposition between what Lebron was saying,
the ring culture phenomenon, and the NBA Finals Game seven
(02:52):
on Sunday. And the juxtaposition is trees or shay, because
what Lebron actually said has a modicum of truth. When
you finished second in this country, people really don't look
at you the sin quite the same. Tac Abwen said,
(03:15):
second place never interests me. I gotta get lots of
quotes on who finished and second, that kind of stuff.
If you ain't, you know first, your last, I'd all
that pablem. But perhaps what I consider to be the
most notorious example of this phenomenon, I give you a name.
His name is Mack Robinson, and this is the hell
(03:37):
of a story. Mack Robinson's been dead twenty five years.
He died very quietly in the hospital in his hometown
of Pasadena, California, complications from pneumonia. A very dignified man,
mac Robinson spent his final years as a janitor to
middle school at Altadena, and he was toileting in obscurity.
(03:58):
But if you do your research, mack Robinson was actually
elected to the Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame back in
nineteen eighty one. But I bet you've never heard of
mack Robinson. See it turns out though mack Robinson was
a world class athlete. In fact, he competed in the
two hundred meters at the nineteen thirty six Olympics, and
on August fifth, nineteen thirty six, mack Robinson's efforts produced
(04:21):
a world record time at the time of twenty one
point one seconds in the two hundred meters. But then
life happened. Well that thought, I'm coming to it because
you've not only never heard of mac Robinson, you probably
didn't know he had the world record in the Olympics
in the nineteen thirty six Olympics, but mac returned to
(04:42):
the United States to join the Army, even had a
stint in the Negro League's professional baseball in the last
twenty years of his life. You could see him sweeping
the streets of Pasadena, mingling warring his Olympic sweatshirt. Now
think about it, winning an Olympic medal is an impressive feat,
ardibly impressive feat. Still, Americans have a thing for winners,
(05:04):
and we almost never remember who finished second. Is sometimes
said that the Daytona five hundred has one winner and
thirty two losers. You see mack Robinson's effort, even though
it turned out to be a world record, ever so
briefly will it netted a silver medal. He finished second. Now,
(05:24):
had mack Robinson finished first, it's likely he would have
become a household name, as the nineteen thirty six Olympics
had become renowned for US athletes, overcoming Hitler's self proclaim
elite society. But for the record, mack Robinson finished second
to a guy by the name of Jesse Owens, who
(05:47):
won the race by a mere four tenths of a second.
After nineteen forty nine, Max's life was a mere blur.
He was a virtually unknown except for some friends who
remained pro Oh yeah, one other thing. One particular individual
who was very proud of mack Robinson was his brother.
(06:10):
He had a brother by the name of Jackie, Yes,
that Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major
League baseball in nineteen forty seven. You see, to that end,
you really can't tell the story of Jackie Robinson or
Jesse Owens completely without including the name of an obscure
athlete from Pasadena who even for a millisecond, held a
(06:31):
world record. His name was Mack Robinson. So you see,
le Brown has a point, even though he had no
clue the point he was making. Because Sunday, only Tyrese
Halliburton or Shay Gilgess Alexander, two fine young men who've
(06:52):
acquitted themselves brilliantly in these NBA Finals, is going to
wake up Monday very depressed. And there's no guarantee either
one of these good guys get back to the NBA Finals. Ever,
there's no guarantee much less win one. And I know
they're both here more than twenty five. I get that.
(07:14):
You may remember Dan Marino after getting to the Super
Bowl the second year, they had the commercial with Joe
Montana where they were up to a pepsi machine and
Montana says, let me pie at pepsi and Marino says, okay,
but I got the one. Next year, Marino never made
it back to a Super Bowl. So you see, there's
(07:36):
a lot more on the line Sunday than just a championship.
And I know you really can't count okc's championship in
nineteen seventy nine when they were called to Seattle Super Sonics,
we won't and the Indiana Pacers have never won one.
Someone's going to break that mold tomorrow Sunday, and the
same with Shay Gilgess and or Tyree Saliburton. But the
(08:00):
loser has a chance because of the society we were
in of becoming a potential mac Robinson. You don't remember, However,
I would say this, in sports, we actually honor perseverance,
people who defy the odds. And to that end, Lebron's
legacy is secure. He just needs to shut up. He
came straight out of high school, seamlessly transitioned to the NBA.
(08:23):
He's played twenty one years, Make no mistake, He's going
to play three more because he's gonna want a farewell
to He's gonna want to try to play with Bryce.
But I digress. But if you want to find something
that really forms the bedrock of our fandoms, find someone
like Frank Sinatra said, there's something to be said for perseverance.
(08:46):
The Indiana Pacers team is one of those teams. What
more can you say about them? Everybody waiting for them
to peter out after three rounds. They gave him a
golf applause after losing. You know, Game five in Oklahoma
City went down three to two. And I don't know anybody,
anybody on the air that picked Indiana to win Game six.
(09:08):
I did. I texted my betting slip to Mark Bendeen
and Improvement to prove it. And I'm picking him in
game seven two And I know, Tyre, you know Halliburtons
still nursing a CAF stream. But he played a gritty
twenty three minutes, scored fourteen minutes, ended up helping his
teams with cobble. The times with the were moments were fleeting.
For the most part, he went, he looked good. Pacers,
(09:31):
defense went nuts. Thunder players not named Shay Gilders scored
seventy total points. Okayse shot forty two percent from the field,
and they missed twenty two to three pointers. Now we'll
see how much of that carries over Sunday. But in
the meantime, on this night, this may be the only
show in history where you ty Lily Tomlin Lebron, James
(09:53):
Mack Robinson, Tyree Saliburton, and Shay Gilgs Alexander And on
that note, we'll all be watching. Do I think Indiana
could win? Yes? I covered the Pistons up close, and
Rick Carlisle as coach, the man is a genius. Now,
Oklahoma City losing Thursday was not surprising to me. They're
(10:13):
only five and five on the road in the playoffs
this year. Their point differential was minus sixty seven, their
net rating was minus six. Not home different story ten
and two. The point differential big, the net rating big.
So I do expect a max effort, but I also
think quantum physics kicks in. This is a young team.
Coaching and experience matter a hell of a lot when
(10:36):
you get to the playoffs in any sport. I definitely
give both edges on those FRONTS two two the Indiana Pacers,
but we shall see. Hey. Be sure to check out

lots to talk about names in the news, Rest wort KD,
the Knicks, maybe they're closing in on a coach and
(11:20):
oh yeah, the Lakers are sold for ten billion. She
wasn't it? About fifteen seconds ago Boston was sold for
an outrageous six point one billion. We wondered how long
it would take to break that record. About fifteen minutes. Hi,

Back in the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio. Come
you live from the Las Vegas studio. Is Well, we're
just hours away from a game seven, and there's a
whole bunch of other stuff happening in the NBA. So
three simple words, it's that time. Medina Magic, Mark Medina,
our Fox Sports Radio NBA guru joins us, Mark Lestive
(12:17):
Radia and the Thunder and the pitches are set to
write their own chapter. We haven't had a game seven
in eight years, nine years. How happy is the NBA
that they got this final result here? I know we
don't have you know, Lakers, Knicks or Golden State Boston
or you know in big names, but this has been
pretty darn good. How does the NBA feel about this?
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Yeah, I think they're satisfied. I mean, obviously, the more
games the means, the more eyeballs, the better the ratings.
I think. You know, even though the NBA talks about
they want parody and equal competition between big and small markets,
there's no doubt there's more interest when there's more high
profile teams with more familiar stars. But look this it
(13:00):
wou not be the ideal matchup in the current moment,
but this can plant the seeds for a lot more
interest in the Pacers in the Thunder and Sha Gilds,
Alexander Tyres Halbert moving forward. And so I think at
least in the short term, it may not have been
an initial ratings shrug. But when you have great compelling basketball,
a lot of good theater, a lot of good drama
(13:21):
that goes a full seven games, that's what's all about Bernie.
We've talked a lot during the season about how some
of the regular season games weren't watchable, weren't interesting. Finally
we have some basketball that's interesting, and I think that's
what's ultimately most important about the NBA, the products on
the floor.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Well, we also have great storylines. We had the Tyreus
Halliburton game winning jumper in game one. They've been matherin
game in game three, Shay Gil just look at the
MVP in game four, the Jalen Williams game in game five,
then Halibert does his Willis Reid thing in game seven. Yeah,
and now we're going to have the eighth year in
a row where it's going to be a brand new
(13:59):
NBA champ in and you mentioned parody. Is the NBA
good with that?
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (14:07):
I think they like that there hasn't been a repeat champion.
Speaker 7 (14:10):
Now.
Speaker 6 (14:10):
I think that I want to be surprised if there's
more tweaks to the CBA, because there's a lot of
angst among teams about all these second apron concerns and
that's made it, you know, really challenging for teams to
be able to be in a position to have subtain
success I think whether the Thunder win Game seven or not,
their championship window is better than the Denver Nuggets because
(14:32):
they still have two years left for Chet Holmer and
Jane Williams before they have to negotiate a new deal.
But you know, once young players are out of their
your rookie contracts, that once becomes more and more challenging
to keep everyone because they're due for pay raise, and
that means it's a bigger payroll, bigger luxury tax bill,
bigger second Apron concerns. But yeah, I am curious if
(14:55):
they tweaked that a little bit so that, you know,
teams that do rap right, do player development right, have
an ability that's much stronger to retain that young core,
so that maybe they're not guaranteed to be in the
championship conversation every single season, but at least they have
a chance. But we'll wait and sue.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Well, if you could just buy a championship Phoenix would
be a dynamic. But I'm glad it's a good segue
mark because obviously the glamour franchise of the NBA was
sold this past week for ten billion, and I'm scratching
my head a little how big of it. And by
the way, all due respect to Mark Walter, how big
of a deal is this. This isn't the Dodgers. You
(15:38):
can't go to Japan and get the best basketball player.
You can't defer contracts like you can in the in
Major League Baseball. The second apron which you brought up
is basically a hard salary cap. And Genie Buss is
still on the show. So what is going to be
so dramatically different, Whether you can buy more analytics gurus, well.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
That remains to be seen. I think in the short
term things will be pretty much the same, because you
established eating Bus is still in charge at least, you know,
through the next years. And you know, it's been reported
out there that this is in writing, so it's not
going to be like the Mark Evans situation where he
thought he had the same basketball matters and all of
a sudden he doesn't. I think that the other natural
(16:23):
thing is Sheening Buss wasn't really involved with basketball ops
when she was governor. She had an involvement as far
as improving expenses, But now that you know Mark Waltter
is in charge of that, she'll managed the business side
she always had, you know, even when her father, the
late doctor Jerry Buss, was around, and so I think
that part is going to stay. I don't think that
(16:46):
there's going to be dramatic off season changes here. You
know this specific summer, Lebron James is going to come back.
It's just a matter if it's a one or two
year deal. Luca Dacas, he put out a really good tweeting,
urging tweet for Laker fans, a thing that he wants
to help them win multiple championships. And if you're between
the lines, he has one year lest on his contract.
(17:07):
He's eligible for an extension in August. I think he
can pencil him in that he's signed an extension, but
I think he was going to do that anyway. I
think the Lakers front office, headed by Rupplink, who is
going to try to upgrade the center spot and their defenders. Anyway,
I think what the changes are are going to be
long term. You mentioned the analyticsgoers and beefing up that staff.
(17:28):
It's not just that, it's also beefing up support staff,
beefing up the training staff, and also I think giving
the Lakers a little more comfort level when they have
to weigh role players and if it's enough to retain them.
I think the best example that, you know, the same
season they got Russell Westbrook in twenty twenty one, they
had to make a decision on Alex Caruso, and if
(17:49):
they wanted to, they still would have been able to
keep them. They had his Burger rights. All they need
to do is have an appetite to spend. But they
decided they didn't want to spend because it was a
huge bill, and they concluded, you know what, they have
enough to win a championship with Lebron, James, Anthony Davis
and Russell Westbrook. We saw that that was a fourth
way of thinking. And I think in Caruso's case, even
(18:11):
though he's a role player, he had a lot of
great commissary with Lebron and he always helped to maximize
the championship windows. I think it's those kind of you know,
things on the margins that add up into giving yourself
a better chance to win in today's NBA.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Now, dot in my mind, Luca gets the extension in
August and Lebron is going to come back, I'm going
to think I'm going to say three years. I don't
know what his contract situation is going to be after
this year. But Darren lines the question because if you
look at Mark Walter's tenure and their partners when they
took over in twenty twelve and did some amazing They've
done some amazing things with the Dodgers, you know, the championships,
(18:49):
but just the penance, large scale upgrades to Dodgers stadium attendance,
all that stuff, right, but it's a totally different playing field.
One of the things that Mark Walter in his ownership
group was not afraid to do in LA in baseball
was move off as stars. They didn't want anymore. What
are the chances to look around and say, Okay, we're
kidding ourselves here. Lebron gives us the best chance maybe
(19:11):
to get to the playing around And you can show
me Lukey eating vegetables all day and on the treadmill.
I'm still not buying it. And they're a long way
away if you look at these teams that advance in
the playoffs. So do you think at some point, Mark
is it's possible? And Mark Walter says, all right, let's
reas shuffle the deck and move one of these one,
if not both of them, or maybe not both of them,
(19:31):
but certainly one of the other and say let's build
around them.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
Yeah, I would never want anything out because if you
have the worst case scenario things Lebron not being healthy,
Luca Dodgrich not being in better shape, Yeah, but I
don't think either of these things are going to happen
because I think Lebron, for all the questions about durability
and understandably so, he's in a forty year old club. Now,
he's still playing all star caliber level, and the fact
(19:57):
that we got Luca dodgris is queer. He's the next star,
generational star that will carry the baton when Lebron retires.
I think Luca's shown that he is very deserving of
That doesn't mean he's a finished product. He needs to
be in better shape, but I think that you know,
he will be in better shape now that he's further
removed from the calf injury, and you know, he's with
the Lakers where there's more heightened expectations, and so we
(20:20):
have to keep in mind he's twenty six years old,
and even though he's shown he's a very special player,
he still has a lot of work to do. But
he's willing to put in that work. So I don't
think it's going to happen because I don't think Lebron
or Luca are going to put any you know, any
put themselves in a pision where Mark Mark Waltz even
(20:40):
has to think about that. I think the other thing,
it's through a pragmatic one. It's not so much nostalgia
or being upset. So we have to have this farewell
toward Lebron James. Given where he's at in his career,
I would think it's more likely that the Lakers would
just be would benefit more from just having him on
the team, not just from a business standpoint, from a
(21:02):
basketball standpoint, because if any team trades for him, they're
not going to get equal value in return. It's not
like they're going to get a bunch of young talent
and draft picks. It's going to be, i want to say,
a wapside of trade, but not equal trade. So I
think with that they're going to just go with that.
I think the bigger changes are more long term as
(21:22):
far as personnel. Possibly long term with the front office.
You know, maybe they go after Bob Myers, who's you know,
been on the ESPN set, Rob Polinka, he signed an
extension with April in April. You know, he has some
goodwill with getting the Luca Dogics trade. And I'm not
going to say his job's in jeopardy right now because
he has a lot of capital, but you know, now
(21:44):
is an opportunity and some pressure to show new ownership. Hey,
you know, I know what I'm doing, and so regardless
of whether he stays or not, I wouldn't rule out
Mark Waltzer trying to just add more and more resources
to the front office so that again they're in a
better position to compete on a night and night at
bet Basos.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
The operative word being long term. And you may be
well right, but you know the future is now with
this Glamor franchise, and I don't see him winning anytime soon.
But you know what, he brought up a lot of
good points. I think it's speculative because I'm of the opinion, Okay, Luca,
don't tell me, show me. I don't care that you
(22:24):
got the you know, orange Teary fitness membership in your kid.
Let's move on because there's too much other stuff going on.
The Knicks looks like they may be closing in on
coach A guy I like a lot personally spoken to
many times Mike Brown. Is he going to be Mike Brown?
And he's had a good fit.
Speaker 8 (22:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
I mean it's fluid, but I've been told that Mike
Brown stands the favorite and it's his job to lose.
I think that he would be a natural fit. He's
obviously a qualified head coach, has had a lot of experience,
whether as a head coach or an associate head coach
at Colden State. I think, you know, the mL on
him historically is, oh, he's a great defensive mind. He
(23:03):
has a lot of demanding practices, but he's limited offensively.
He has shown during his time with Sacramento that he's
more innovative. When he has the personnel, he can be
a great offensive coach. You know, he loves pouring the film.
He likes Steve Taylor Orion practices. But when he was
in Golden State, he's told me multiple times how it
(23:23):
really opened his eyes that he didn't he doesn't have
to have these long, intense practice sessions that were guys
out where their attention spans. So I think he's evolved
with the times. I think the other thing, you know,
Taylor Jenkins, he might be another candidate, but just the
resume between Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins is pretty stark. Now,
when this happens, I've been told that it might not
(23:47):
be for a while. You have the draft coming up,
you have free agency. I think the NIXT thought processes,
they can take their time with us. But you know,
I have been told that Mike is seen as the
favorite candidate.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Talking with Mark Mandina, our Fox Sports radio grewer, let's
talk about Kevin Durant. Yesterday about this time, I could
have swore that Durant would have a new destination sooner
rather than later. Maybe the Rockets, maybe the you know,
pick your poison. I don't think he wants to go
to Minnesota, but that's just a thought. And now I'm
hearing these talks with the Rockets are at an impass.
What's going on with Kevin Durant.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
Yeah, well it's fluid because Kevin Durant All Fame player,
one of the best scorers ever in the NBA. But
he makes fifty two million dollars, he's in his high thirties,
and he has an injury history ever since twenty nineteen.
So I think what's happened is you know there's a
depressed market. I think Kevin, to be frank, kind of
(24:43):
prefers that because he is he doesn't want to just
be traded anywhere. He wants to be able to, you know,
have some sort of influence where he plays and hopefully
ends his career there, and he wants to be on
the team has in a position to win. But that
might not happen because teams might like Kevin but enough
to give up a lot of their assets. So yeah,
there's teams like Houston San Antonio that are intriguing, but
(25:06):
I'd be doubt I'm very doubtful that either of them
would do that because they have a good thing going
with a lot of good young players. They don't want
to break that up hastily. You know, there's teams like
Minnesota and Miami that could be in the mix. I'm
doubtful in Minnesota only because again, they want to be
(25:26):
able to build off of their current playoff shortcomings and
their potential, but you don't want to get the roster.
I think we've said this again, and I'll say it again.
I really think it's Miami. You know, right now, they
may not be enamored with making Tyler here available, but
I think eventually he will and I think the Suns
(25:47):
will also realize they don't have a lot of options here.
And I think with Miami, you know, they they historically
have valued roster depth, but because they lost in the
first round in Cleveland, got swept that Jimmy Butler off
the oscar played out the way it was, they don't
believe in rebuilds. So I think that they like Kevin
Durant for his skill set, has practiced training habits, and
(26:10):
it might not change the needle as far as their
standing in the Eastern Conference landscape, but at least they
have a better chance at game now the first round
than they did this past season.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
I'm glad you mentioned Miami because the guy we brought
up last week is will Russell Westbrook entering his eighteen season.
I'm told Miami's actually showing legitimate interest with Dallas a
distance second, And what are your thoughts? Could could Russell
Westbrook end up with them?
Speaker 6 (26:36):
You never rule it, al, I think we have to
keep in mind that teams are interested in him because
he's not making a lot of money. You know, he
he has all star credentials, but he's making veteran minimum
type money. So I think teams are looking at it.
You know what, It's a low risk, high reward. You know,
we'll see if he's adaptable to a fluid role. But
(27:00):
they love his competitiveness and all that. But we've just
seen the story over and over again. If but Russell
Westbrook will come to a team, he will show his
competitive fire, it will ignite the locker room, and then
his weaknesses will show up, and then his rolling his
playing time will decrease because it's not worth it having
him on the floor. So yeah, there might be teams
(27:22):
that are interested, but I think it's more of a
last resort and only to fill the back end of
the roster. I think teams should further realize after seeing
him with the Clippers, seeing him with Denver, that he's
good in the regular season. Maybe he'll win you a
playoff game or two, but he creates more problems when
you need him the most in crunch time.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
I can't disagree with any of that. And last question,
the team that Russell Westbrook you know, is departing. I
think he's turning down to a three point four million players. Yeah,
so I'm like, Dad, Yeah, you're right, that's not a lot. Well,
what's he meane? Five hundred million in his career, just
about it. He's made a fortune.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
Yeah, I don't have the exact number, but yeah, he's
been pretty lucrative. He's he used to be a max player.
He used to be an All Star caliber player. You know,
I think he's opting out thinking, you know what, maybe
my market value is actually higher. But I want to
be surprised if it's actually the other way around, because again,
teams are going to pick him up. If he's a
veteran minimum guy. You know, maybe he'll start, but it'll
(28:24):
be a fluid role with coming off the bench and
just being available in case injuries happened. But again, teams
are still interested in him because it's not a significant
investment in their salary.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
And there's one last diarny, because I don't think Denver's
done yet. It's odd how they roast at the top
and sunk they get rid of, they get rid of. Well,
the Russell westborothst not could be back. But I'm hearing
in Denver they still have a concern on how to
replace his energy in his defense, and I'm hearing they're
going to give a shot to Jalen Picket and maybe
he didn't get much experience last year, but all of
(28:59):
a sudden, now there is they're rid of Westbrook, that
they got to find a replacement for him. What does
never do to get back in the mix.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
Yeah, I mean, I think they're going to try to
see what they can get in return for Michael Porter Junior.
But it's gonna be tough because he's a great player,
but he's inconsistent, he makes a lot of money, and
he has injury history. So I think the Nuggets are
in a precarious position because you can pencil in Nicole Jokic,
he's going to produce triple doubles, but they haven't quite
(29:27):
known what they're going to get with Jamal Murray in
the regular season. He'll come up big in the playoffs,
but they also need him to be healthy and productive
in the regular season. They love Aaron Gordon, He's shown
that he's a gamer in the postseason. They just they
haven't found enough young players outside of Christian Braun and
a little bit of Julian Strather, of enough rotation guys
(29:50):
that are young. They know what they're going to get,
So it's a tough sled, but I think that they
are encouraged that you know, they they David Adaman was
really get a coach chapter, Michael Muller inspiring, and that
they can build off of that and kind of improve
from with them.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Mark, great stuff. I'm already looking forward to the next Saturday.
There'll be more news, maybe another team will be sold,
who knows. And oh, by the way, we gotta start
talking about the draft. Yeah, it's gonna be well.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
I'm sure we'll talk about Cooper flag. I might have
some intel on Mark Walter's willingness to give Brown and
James an extension.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Well, beautiful props to you. I was remiss in my
Bronnie James reference tonight. Good for you, Thanks Mar, appreciate it, Bud,
Thank you, Ben, Mark Medina Medina Magic. Every Saturday night
here on the Bernie Frowders Show. Coming up, we got
a rockus and I mean beautifully raucous midnight hour this week.
Three outstanding topics. Callers will be outstanding as well. As
(30:45):
you know, twenty two minutes away from now, it will
be literally twelve midnight in Las Vegas. Also figuratively same
for you, which means you get the last word. That's
what the midnight hour is all about. Eight seven, seven,
nine nine six six three six nine, eight seven, seven,
nine to nine on Fox will give you the three
topics coming up. Phones are all good this week, looking
(31:07):
forward to hearing from you. I'm Bernie Frattle, coming to
your line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio Studios. Don't
go away, you're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
We're back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
By the way, be sure to check out the Fox
Sports Radio YouTube channel. There's a ton of great videos
from many of our Fox Sports Radio shows. Just for
Fox Sports Radio. On YouTube. You'll see a whole bunch
of video highlights from my shows. And be sure to
subscribe so you always have instant access to our Fox
Sports Radio videos on YouTube. All right, it is now
(31:44):
fourteen minutes away from the midnight hour. From where I
sit here in Las Vegas. It will be literally twelve
midnight for where you sit perhaps the same, but for
all of us it's figuratively the midnight hour, which means
you get the last word. I have three top pick tonight.
I think could get a kick out of eight seven seven,
nine nine six sixty three six nine seven nine nine
(32:06):
one Fox. The first one we've got to talk about
the Lakers being sold is how big of a deal
is this to you? Will they win a championship the
next three to five years? Again, this is not the Dodgers.
You can't defer contracts like Major League Baseball. The second
apron is a hard salary cap. Genie Buss is still
running the team. The Lakers are a starstruck franchise. They're
(32:28):
a glamour franchise. They like Vandi Bys. It's still showtime,
big name Honting. Maybe I'm all wrong, Maybe you've got
an idea the brilliance that Mark Walter is showing the Dodgers. Again,
it's not the same playing field. I want to get
your thoughts on the Lakers and then being sold Shadoor
one oh one. By the way, one oh one is
not Shadeur's qbr Okay Shadoor. You know there's an old
(32:56):
saying leadership is influence based on trust you've earned. And
if you're quarterback of the National Football League, you can't
just say your leader. You got to be leader. Now
we're now hearing more that not only was Shador going
one hundred and one, which is forty one over the
speed limit, he may have run a couple stop signs.
Allegedly I was there, I didn't see it. Just telling
(33:17):
you what I've heard. And oh, by the way, this
is his second speeding ticket inside of a month. The
other time he was going ninety one, so he didn't
learn this less than that time, allegedly didn't show up
for his arraignment, and allegedly was rude to the officer. Hmmm.
My question to you is does this possibly change the
way you look at Shador Sanders? What are your thoughts?
(33:43):
So we've got the Lakers, big deal? Are they gonna
win a championship again within the next three to five years? Again,
they're not the Dodgers, right, This is not major League Baseball.
You cannot defer contracts like major League Baseball. There's a
hard salary cap, which is the second an apron basically
Genie Buster run on the team. What do you think,
(34:04):
Shudor Sanders? How do you look at him now? If
you thought he was a leader before, do you still
think he is? Or maybe you haven't changed anything at all?
Speaker 9 (34:11):
You know?
Speaker 2 (34:11):
My thoughts on Hudor. You heard me go on from
my oratory last week about you can glean virtually nothing
from shorts and helmets, and I don't know why they
keep peeing all over Dylan Dylan Gabriel's face. The kid
can play. I'm hearing he's small. Okay, Well, I saw
him going to Michigan and pick him apart. He was
a starting quarterback for two iconic college football franchises, been
(34:32):
to the playoffs, sixty starts, far more advanced by some
field that Hudor has better talent than proven on the field,
not behind the wheel of a car going one on
one and forty one over the limit. You know, we're
a little sensitive to that now. The Henry Ruck situation
here in Las Vegas. Possibly ran stop science, possibly was
rude to the cop. Possibly, we're hearing he didn't show
(34:54):
up at his arraignment and that was his second speeding ticket.
All right, he's human. Here's the deal, though, if if
you're fourth on the depth chart, you just can't afford
hiccups like that. I know that. I know for a
fact of the years I covered the Lions. NFL security
is pretty tight and teams employ pretty sharp security personnel.
(35:15):
Most of them are X's law enforcement and I'm sure
they sat him down to talk to him, and they
probably had a lot of questions You and I might
not be smart enough to ask depending on his answers.
It will be depending on what kind of short rope
he's on. Now. They're not gonna cut him. That's not
gonna do that, No should they? Okay, let him get
on the field in pre season against guys who will
be working at NAP Auto Parts next month and see
(35:36):
how he can do. But this is not a good
look in my view. But how do you look at
your door? Now? The third topic, I know people are
gonna explode on this one. I have to talk about
steven A. Smith. Now, full disclosure. I like steven A.
Smith all right. I think I've told you multiple times.
Thanks to Rob Parker, steven A and not Rob and
(35:57):
I had dinner the night Steve Mary got fired after
our Alliance postgame show on Thanksgiving two thousand and five,
after at at Fishbones and Detroit, Steven Daser. If you
ever meet him in person, I promise he'll be gracious
to you. He was a really nice guy, and I
mean that. But is Stephen A perhaps being overexposed. He's
(36:18):
had a pretty rough forty five days. First, she had
that situation with Lebron in the middle of the court
and now comes out that Lebron and steven A really
don't like each other. Wow. Then you had the situation
with the solitaire, playing solitaire, and Stephen exploded and got
(36:38):
very very defensive and made the statement that you know
it was under he was doing solitaire. You know, he
do this every night a year. I'm not chucking my responsibilities.
I'm I'm this, I'm that, but blah blah. And the
game wasn't even there wasn't even going on when I
was doing it. Of course that's been debunked. There's metadata
that shows that the was certainly in progress while steven
(37:02):
A was looking at his solitaire. And then he had
this terrible gaff involving Tyrese Halliburton in game five. He says, man,
he looked awful tonight, and I'm glad he's injured. What
I know, Stephens state dated meaning steven dated meaning clunky
or you know, derogatory by that. But it was very,
very clunky. So the truth of the matter is, is
(37:25):
the bloom off the rose now he's everywhere. Man. He's
even doing tours with Bill O'Reilly Andrew Como and they're
very successful. And he's a polarizing guy. But here's the question. Now,
when you see Steven A. Smith on TV, do you go,
oh good, let's see what he's got Steven, it's got
to say today, are you more likely to turn the
channel because maybe you've been turned off a little bit
(37:47):
by some of these events of the past. Right, week, month,
six months, three months, whatever. He By the way, for
the best pregame show every week, and be sure to
tune into Fox Sports Radios. Countdown, presented by BETMGM every
Saturday and Sunday morning from nine am to noon Eastern
six am to nine am Pacific, will count you down
(38:08):
to all the biggest games. There's no better place to
prime you for the tournament games than right here. Tune
into Countdown presented by BETMGM every sad Saturday morning right
here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
All right, eight sixty six nine, try that again eight seven,
seven nine nine six six three sixty nine eight seven, seven,
nine to nine on Fox Looking forward to hearing from you. Oh,
(38:29):
by the way, if you couldn't get in last week
cause of the phone snafu, And you want to come
on comment on whether or not the NWNBA champ could
be a high school state champ. Team love to hear.
I don't care. This is fun, Okay, we want to
hear from you. The callers have been fantastic. So the Lakers,
big deal your thoughts the glamour franchise new ownership. It
(38:49):
ain't going to be like Major League Baseball. I've already
given you what the limitations are. Genie Busts is still
run on the team and you can't defer contracts. Shador Sanders,
mister legendary, so concerned about being legendary, might want to
be more concerned about getting your qber to one o
one than driving one oh one forty one over the limits.
Second speeding ticket, ran stop signs allegedly, then show for
(39:10):
his raymon allegedly it's his second ticket in a month.
Root of the cop. We think not great leadership if
you're Shador and Stephen A. Smith is he over exposed
them and the bron don't like each other. Stepping from
the BROWNI incident, playing solitary during a game and oh
by the way the Tyre's Halliburton gaff in Game five,
he's looked awful. I'm glad he's injured. Wow, bloom off
(39:32):
the roads with steven A. Well when he comes on
the TV, do you say, oh good, let's see what
steven A's got to say? Or is it I'm gonna
change a channel? So the Lakers shadoor the Midnight Hour
with steven A eight seven seven nine nine six six
three sixty nine eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
We want to look from you, hear from you. You've
(39:53):
been fantastic the last year and a half. Let's keep
it rolling. It's time for the Midnight Hour on Bernie
Frattles Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
Ra Do listen no Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Faddle
Show keeps rolling right along the Fox Sports Radio studios
here in Las Vegas. Jim Emmett, Christopher Allen, Steve Andre,
You're gonna be the first six. We're gonna get to
all of you tonight in the min that hour. Another
rock its min that hour is we hack saw Hamilton
The one said, let's set the topics on the table,
just for everybody knows the case you're just douning in
(40:26):
the Lakers. Okay, they were sold. Is that really a
big deal where they win a championship the next three
to five years. Here's why I say that this is
not the Dodgers, this is not major League Baseball. You
can't defer contracts the second aprons basically a hard salary cap,
and Genie bus is to run the team. All right,
what's the big deal my view? And not that's not
to disavow what Mark Walter is done with the Dodgers props,
(40:49):
and we'll get to that later. Shador, mister legendary, mister
one on one, no one on one is not his
QBR forty one over the limit, allegedly ran stop signs,
allegedly it was to the police, and apparently allegedly didn't
make his arraignment on the first ticket of ninety one,
which he got a month before. Look, you want to
be a leader, you want to be a legendary. I've
(41:09):
always said that leadership is influence based on trust you've earned.
Can you really trust Shudor Sanders I'm sure as I'm
not sure you can trust him under center. People can
pick on Kenny Pickett all they want he's fifteen ten
is a starter in the NFL. Shodoor was thirteen and
twelve as a starter in college. Finally, steven A Smith.
I like steven A, but as he overexposed the fight
(41:31):
with Lebron, they don't gate along the briny deal. The
solitary mishap made the statement about Tyreus Halliburton on Game
five quote, he looks awful. I'm glad he's injured. Wow.
That just came out clunky. So is the bloom off
the rose for the one hundred million dollar man when
you see him on TV? What's your reaction? Oh? Good,
steven A's up. Let's see what he's got to say,
(41:52):
or you turn the channel eight seven, seven, nine, nine,
six six three sixty nine. We begin with Jim and
Man massachusets Jim always glad to lead us off.
Speaker 10 (42:02):
What do you got bud uh Bernie selling selling of
the Lakers And that was a good price that she
got there. I think they're gonna win. They're not gonna
win a championship in the next three or five years.
It's just not going to happen. There's just too many
distractions around LA for those players to really concentrate on
their craft and come together and you know, go for
(42:25):
a title. You know.
Speaker 6 (42:27):
So that's my.
Speaker 10 (42:27):
Feeling there as fire as she could goes he is
an idiot. I thought he I thought he had more
self discipline than what he has. I mean, mounting off
the cops and running stop signs and they're not showing up.
You think the judge or the course. There's some kids
if they wouldn't care if it was Tom Brady or
Larry Burr. You get someone to go to court, you go.
(42:51):
I mean, I don't understand. I understand his mind, and
I'll tell you they won't put up with it much
more if he keeps that that that attitude.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
Now you know that, you know the rub here Jim
is that this is a Jimmy Haslm decision. It's so
obvious that Kevin Stefanski, uh and and crew don't necessarily
look at this guy as a future franchise quarterback. I mean, hell,
they'd be better off with you Dona's Haslm on the team.
Are you got the last word?
Speaker 10 (43:19):
Yeah, I'm I'm sure they're looking that way. I'm sure
they're having to buy a remorse now. And what was
the last topic?
Speaker 2 (43:25):
Oh, Stephen A stiff he's had, he's had a rough
sixty days.
Speaker 10 (43:30):
Yeah, well, I mean I think that that candle was done,
burned out. He was good, and then I think his
persana overwhelmed him, and then he started dabbling in politics
and everything, and that will that will make everybody taste sour,
you know. So I really wasn't a big fan of him,
and him and bron a two piece from the same plot.
(43:51):
You know, it's all about them and forget everybody else,
you know.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
So all right, Jim, appreciate you as always. Thank you,
emmittt and Olympia.
Speaker 11 (44:01):
Bernie Freda, what's going on? How are you doing tonight?
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Another big night, my man? What's up?
Speaker 11 (44:06):
Yes, sir, I'll start with the Lakers, and I think
there's not going to be an im media impact in
terms of selling the team. Genie Buss is obviously still
going to have operations of the team, like you said,
in terms of winning a championship in the next three
to five years, I don't think it's.
Speaker 7 (44:19):
Going to happen.
Speaker 11 (44:20):
I think that the NBA in a hole, like, yes,
the ratings are down tremendously, but I think we're in
a position where we've seen the most talent in both
of the conferences that we've seen in a long time.
So I think it's going to be very hard for
the Lakers to get back there, especially with this Lebron stuff,
especially with not being able to really do that much
in terms of trading for a big man. I mean,
(44:40):
you have some options, but you don't have that capital
if having a lot of draft picks or even having
a lot of money. So it's going to be hard
for them to get these right additions that they need
if they want to win a championship on top of
a stacked Western conference. And I think with Shador this
is a horrible look because this is a thing that Okay,
you were getting talked about as someone who didn't care,
as someone who is kind of egotistical, didn't really have
(45:02):
the best personality, The coaches didn't like your vibes. And
you're not in the NFL for two months, and you
come out here and you go one to one and
then get caught speeding, don't show.
Speaker 12 (45:12):
Up to your court sec exactly second time.
Speaker 11 (45:16):
In the month, Bernie. And the thing is is you're like, Okay,
a lot of players in the NFL, you know, they
not even in the NFL.
Speaker 12 (45:23):
If you get money and you.
Speaker 11 (45:24):
Get a fast car, you're gonna drive it fast. But
Shador Sanders is in a really bad spot because of
how everyone was revealing him. He slipped in the draft,
so they're not going to be more, oh, this is
our first round pick. It with some guy they drafted
in the fifth round.
Speaker 12 (45:38):
You can take a loss on that.
Speaker 11 (45:39):
So he really needs to figure out how to be
Like I think there's like some tendencies there in terms
of him being a leader, but he needs to figure
out his personal stuff because he's not in a situation
to take any more risks and get caught up in
any more bad situations. And Stephen A. Smith, this is
a tough one because I think the Lebron thing at first,
like what he said about Brownie wasn't too terrible in
(46:01):
my opinion, but the way he handled it, you as
a media member, you got to kind of look at
it differently and you got to be professional about it.
And then he was saying on the show first take
the next day is like, oh, I would have punched Lebron.
It's like, that's a bad look for the media. That's
a horrible look. And Jim and Massachusetts he brought it
up perfectly. I mean, this is just Lebron and stephen A,
two p's in a pod, and I think stephen A,
(46:24):
I'm not really as much of a hater on him
as other people are. When I see his tit takes
on TV, I'm just thinking, Okay, I'll check it out
because I like to hear everybody's points in the media,
and I listened to Fox Sports Radio, but I do
check out a lot of the other videos or a
lot of the people on TV, just to hear a
different perspective. So of course I'm going to give him
a shot. And the solitaire thing, it's just so a
(46:45):
horrible look in my po when you.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
Start stacking these things up. I appreciate you. Good job.
He checked every box when you had the solitaire thing,
and it becomes defined and they've got metadata that shows
he was playing it while the game is going on. Now,
this Haliburton gaff heavy as they had that where's the crown?
Christopher and Charlie, welcome into the Bernie frownishow.
Speaker 6 (47:05):
How are you good?
Speaker 8 (47:07):
Very good, Bernie, thank you for taking my call, sir.
Just start with the Lakers, Okay. Business buzz now has
a golden parachute. She kids to make the Lakers look
be prestigious, the most extensive franchise in the world.
Speaker 7 (47:22):
As of today.
Speaker 8 (47:23):
Somehow that'll change because they've already won their championships. They're
stuck with Lebron. There's no way they're going to win anything.
And until they can get rid of him and move on,
there's no way they're going to do anything.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
So what do we do.
Speaker 8 (47:36):
We sell the franchise, make it look good. So she
is to have something that make her father's legacy be
something important. So we then move on to stephen A.
I remember when he mouthed off constantly on a three
letter I'm sorry the four letter network on the radio constantly,
I'll think off all the time his opinions. So now
(47:57):
he's got to get a chance to go on by television,
continue to do the same time after time, making himself
the most important.
Speaker 9 (48:04):
What does he do?
Speaker 8 (48:05):
He slips up, not once twice, but three times. Gosh,
if you were in a public job, or would you
be on the street unemployed? He has to realize he's
made a mistake. Own up to it. Day, what you said,
you're on a roll.
Speaker 2 (48:21):
I don't mean to cut in, but he's been very recalculitrated.
Speaker 13 (48:24):
To continue on Christopher, Well, my only point is that
from the standpoint of someone from the northeast, when I
watched him there, he had an attitude.
Speaker 8 (48:34):
You can't do that when you get caught own up
to it. I screwed up. I'm sorry because people will
respect that. You can't keep thinking you're going to go
down the same path and have people respect what you say.
You don't do that. So let's take a look at
how we are dealing with a speeder repetitively who's now
decided to skip court and as a fits round draft pick.
(48:57):
Let's see, the Detroit Lions had a receipt. It was
still extremely popular, but got caught doing things, got suspended
for it. Mister Williams owned up to it and moved on.
How in this case, the Keeveland Browns must say, this
is an idiot, we don't need him, we don't have
to keep them.
Speaker 3 (49:14):
Move on.
Speaker 8 (49:15):
You are now going to the XFL. Congratulations, because that's
what you deserve to be. If you're so mature based
on what your father did to teach you, you're not
showing it, you're not respecting it, and you should be
wire in jail. That's all I have to say.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Anything cross standing, don't be a stranger, checking every box,
Appreciate the candor. And again I think Shidor Sanders has
the quote unquote Rabbi in the room in Jimmy Haslam.
I don't know how much he violated that trust, but
we'll find out. I guess Alan Saint louis always good
(49:50):
to hear from you. What's up tonight, man, Well, good morning, Barney.
How you doing good, sir.
Speaker 14 (49:57):
In the top of those always the first and four
of the Lakers are concern I don't think there will
be much much difference right now, you know, the one
they want that owner, you know, with the with the Dodgers,
he's basically hands off, you know, he lets he let
all the baseball people do all the all the things
that they just he just approves everything, and I think
he'll be the same with the Lakers. Like you said,
(50:18):
the difference the Lakers is they have a hard salary cap,
so it's not much the owner can do as far
as his money is concerned.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
No, you're not going to Japan to get the best
basketball player and then paying him a billion dollars into
fernive for thirty years. They don't do that in the NBA.
Speaker 14 (50:33):
Continue, he may rent, he may make some improvements in
the center and make the officers better, hire better office
staff or scouts or whatever. But Wilson deal this, this
deal will won't be already shown with the next three
to five years. Now, as far as Shador's concerned, I'm
not going to go as far as call him an
idiot and everything, but I will say right now it's
(50:55):
irresponsible and one they want the NFL where you know,
I'm seeing bigger stars get in trouble and the NFL
will humble you after while. And like the previous caller said,
you're fifth round draft choice. So monetarily there is no
risk as far as he's concerned. So you know, if
he decides to keep getting in trouble, I mean, regardless
(51:19):
of what his last NAIM is and what he has
competing ahead of him, you know, you know, he may
learn this lesson the hard way, and that'll be all
on him. And as far as Steven A. Swift has heard,
I think Stevin A's problem is when he was Stephen A. Swift,
the broadcaster, he was okay, he became Steven a swift
the brand, and I think I think that's a whole
(51:42):
that's a whole different, whole, different thing. When he first
a little first take, everything was good. Now it's put
the camera on me. Make sure I'm on the camera.
You know, you could just tell, you know, he's a
come of a character, that he is a sportscaster. And
let's face it, there's no there's no secret that him
when Lebron James don't like each other every time, at
(52:03):
least at least don't we knew he didn't like Lebron.
You would just tell about the subject matter, you know,
when when Lebron names come up, he'll start of a
different toad dinner kind of tone it down when he
realized he may be getting too far off. So there's
you know, there's no secrets as far as the solitaire,
you know, as far as I'm the third that's on
(52:24):
the bottom of my list, as far as he's got
four other people in there during the during the halftime
show to cover his butt up if he missing something.
Take care of Bernie, great show as.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
Always, Thank you all and always appreciate your thoughts, and
just to just to touch every so quickly on one
aspect of your call, she Dura is a fifth round pick.
H No one I knew in the NFL had it
projected as a first round pick. It was all part
of the group. Think echo Chambion for your last name
was Sanders, or you're part of the Sanders collective? All right? Uh,
(52:56):
it's just in his position in all sports, he didn't
have that one super power to be a first round pick.
But I will say this kind of you know, touching
on Allen's one of the points he made. You know,
Jimmy Johnson would said, no, I don't treat all players
the same. You can't. He goes. For instance, if the
backup pooch punter falls asleep during film, he's cut. If
(53:16):
if Troy Aikman falls asleep during film study, I'll say, Troy,
can I get you a pillow? So the truth of
the matter is Dion doesn't that you know, he hasn't
earned any knockers yet. Steve in Los Angeles Joint, just
welcome back in Steve.
Speaker 7 (53:31):
Hey, Bernie, thanks for taking my call. I was going
to rest tonight, but when I heard the topic of
Shador Sanders and Stephen A. Smith, I had to call in.
Let's start with Stephen A.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
Smith.
Speaker 8 (53:47):
Talks like a jerk, acts.
Speaker 7 (53:49):
Like a jerk, looks like a jerk. Must be a jerk.
That guy is the worst guy in media. I turned
the channel as soon as possible.
Speaker 6 (54:00):
Bowl.
Speaker 7 (54:01):
He is the worst person. And this is I don't
know if this is true, Bernie. When the Super Bowl
was in Vegas? Is it true the guy had nine bodyguards?
That's how much people despise the man.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
I have no idea if that's true. I can only
tell you in fairness and my encounters with Steve and Ay,
including the dinner we have Rob Parker back in five
after Steam mar Ucci got cut fired after our postgame
showed down at Fishbones in Detroit. He was gracious, and
I run into him three or four times. He's always
been very gracious. But listen, I don't want to steal
your thunder you continue.
Speaker 7 (54:33):
On, Okay, Shador Sanders, I got Bernie. I come to
you for a job and I act terrible on a
job interview, and then I expect you to hire me,
and then I'm a fifth round pick. And he thinks
he's God's give to the world. Guys like that don't
play Bernie. He's a jerk also, and he deserves to
(54:56):
be a fifth round pick and he'll never play in
the league. As far as the third one, the Lakers,
if they make a move or two, can win a
championship way before the Celtics. But Bernie, when you told
me that Chador Sanders and stephen A. Smith were the topics, Bernie,
(55:17):
stephen A. Smith is a jerk, Please, Bernie Shadoor Sanders
is a jerk. You come to a job interview, you're
not that good of a player, and you blow off
NFL executives. Bernie, I come to you wrong.
Speaker 2 (55:33):
Yeah, no, no, no, you're not wrong, Steve, go ahead
and finish up. I'm sorry.
Speaker 7 (55:37):
No, I'm just telling you today's athlete is bad.
Speaker 6 (55:41):
They think they.
Speaker 7 (55:43):
They're God's gifts. They have improvement and he said, and
they've made money before they've even done anything. He's the
poster child of what's everything that's wrong with college football?
And Bernie, they had to desire, they had the nerve
to retire his jersey at college, right that fan done?
Come on, Bernie, what are we talking about?
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Exactly? Well, thank you, Steve, appreciate you. Look, I always
appreciate your calls. If we could just get you to
get over the shyness if you get my drip. Yeah,
well if you're If his last name was shudor Slobotnik
and the coach was you know, Royal Fuchs, he wouldn't
have been. You wouldn't have been, you know, having his
(56:25):
jersey retired. So look it's all lining up now. I's
got to get on the field and back it up.
He likes to be legendary, but for not the same reason.
Andre in Massachusetts, Andre, where you have been? Buddy? You
took a hiatus.
Speaker 14 (56:39):
Bernie, how are you doing?
Speaker 15 (56:40):
Thanks for taking the call that hiatus will be concluding
as we are moving into the summer months here on
the Cape, in a very productive school year has reached
its conclusion, and so now the school is out for
the summer, my attendance will be much improved. Okay, So
in terms of the Lakers and this deal, that bus
(57:00):
that has made, I got to tip my hat frankly
to Genie who's been a mover and a shaker and
has operated in some machiavellian ways when needed. But okay,
we sell it ten billion dollars. We secure the money
side of it. But what the Lakers are doing. What
Genie Bus is doing. What's not taking place in Dallas
in terms of the disaster that's gone on there is
(57:21):
that Genie's going to remain in control in perpetuity to
make the decisions that need to be made. It's just
going to make the Lakers championship team tomorrow. No, okay,
but we see when you just hand the keys over
to the next billionaire to come and own an NBA
team and just give let them do it all themselves,
you have the fiasco that took place in Dallas and
continue to take place in Dallas, and it's just not good.
Speaker 8 (57:44):
So I'm a fan of it.
Speaker 15 (57:45):
To cure the money, Jeanie continue to run the franchise,
and I have more much more faith in Genie Bus
than whoever the heck the new billionaires are terms of
shador Sanders for we want shame on you, Bernie for
me twice, shame on me that this is the this
is a pattern and it doesn't look good.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (58:02):
And then you add on to this, never mind the
pressure that he feels uh coming in as a fifth
round pick and to prove himself in the NFL. But
he's They've got some real things taking place in the
Sanders family, you know, with with Dion kind of having
an illness, nobody, you know, not specifics, but you know,
you know, maybe forget about Colorado. You know, your your
data sick. You know, so so that is going to
(58:24):
have a major impact on you. And so one one incident,
the second incident, you know, I think it's time to
maybe take a step back and from your door and
kind of get myself right. You can't nobody can do everything,
all right, And he had enough on his plate to
start with coming into the NFL, the drafting, you know,
the catastrophe, but now that there's real stuff going on
(58:44):
with his family, I think you should take a step back. Well,
visa b Steven H.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
Smith.
Speaker 15 (58:48):
The last point there, listen, in my mind is I
can't I respect the hustle. First of all, you know,
he does first take, he has his own podcast. Now
he's getting really into politics, you know, and that he's
diving into that. He's on NBA finals, and you know,
so his whole brand of never taking a day off,
(59:09):
you know, be a twenty million dollar man's fine. But
when you spread yourself, it's tough to know how you
know which way I'm looking.
Speaker 1 (59:16):
At you right, the same party.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
I got it.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
I want to get to everybody, thanks so much, and
I want to thank everybody for their patients, because coming
up we're going to have Manuel and Guardina, Steven in
Kansas City, Sean Moby All Alabama, Andrew and Bakersfield, Poppy,
San Diego, Bryston, Texas. We're getting all you. I appreciate
your patience. I want to just set one thing on
the record straight, Mark Walter when he took over the
Dodgers and his partners took over the Dodgers in twenty twelve,
(59:45):
the Dodgers are basically being bought out a bankruptcy. They
would have been financially ravaged by Frank and Jamie McCourt. Competitively,
they weren't competitive on the field. They missed the playoffs
three straight years, all of a sudden, eleven division titles,
National League pennants, couple of World Series, major upgrades to
die up your stadium. They lead the league in attendance
every freaking year. But the NBA is not Major League Baseball,
(01:00:07):
and you don't have some of these same luxuries, and
you're stuck, and I mean stuck with Lebron whose ring culture.
If you heard my opening commentary. My teeth still it
from what Lebron tried to mumble this past week. Coming up,
we're gonna get to all you. You take the time
to dial in, you're getting in. I'm Bernie Fratto. We're
(01:00:28):
coming to your line from Las Vegas. Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back in the Bernie
Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. The Man at Hour continues
nine ninety six, six three six, nine eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox, we go to the legend Manuel
and Guardiana. Yes, the man has balls. I don't want
(01:00:50):
to see him, but I know he's got him and
you're about to be treated America. Manuel, take it away?
Speaker 16 (01:00:55):
Oh oh, which mag know?
Speaker 17 (01:01:01):
Chim in with Bernie Fred Oh.
Speaker 7 (01:01:05):
How you doing?
Speaker 17 (01:01:06):
My man?
Speaker 6 (01:01:06):
Hey?
Speaker 16 (01:01:08):
Real quick, I gotta say, what's up to one of
my fans out there, Steve in La What up? But yeah,
he did have a great call tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
I think his favorite song is cool Jerk by the Capitals.
That's a great song back in the day.
Speaker 16 (01:01:25):
Go ahead, it's all good man, nothing but love. So
what I was gonna say, Bernie is he actually nailed
it and show did the other guy on Shador Sanders.
You know, it's a shame.
Speaker 8 (01:01:42):
The kid had it all.
Speaker 16 (01:01:43):
He has it all in the palm of his hands,
plus his dad. You know, like there's not a whole
lot Patrick's shurteen juniors around, you know, like guys that
can take after legendary dad, especially in the league. You know,
I can't recall very many father sons that both like excelled,
(01:02:06):
other than maybe the Slaters.
Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
You thought, you know, right, don't let me, don't let
me go off the rails. We got too many calls
continue on how does this change the way you look
at your.
Speaker 18 (01:02:16):
Door or or what?
Speaker 6 (01:02:18):
Oh man?
Speaker 16 (01:02:19):
Uh yeah, I mean it has to, because the lack
of respect on his part is just it's just borderline stupidity.
Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
Know you know about the Lakers and uh and uh
Stephen a saga.
Speaker 6 (01:02:34):
With the Lakers.
Speaker 16 (01:02:37):
I'm excited because I've seen what a Mark uh Walter
right ownership group can do with the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (01:02:46):
They came in and infused the boatload of cash, got
all the free agents, and that's been the Laker way forever.
So I mean, might as well play the hammer that
you're dealt with and that's what Lakers fans expect, nothing
but championship. So he's gonna put down the money. I mean,
he already put down the money right Well, you know,
(01:03:07):
my man, I.
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Mean, they're gonna pay Luca this summer and they're stuck
with Lebron and that's saton. Apron is basically a hard
cap and you can't to first salary like you do
in Major League Baseball, so it's not the same playing field.
Speaker 16 (01:03:19):
But you know what, these guys are also hard line
on the other side, Bernie. So my thought is, yeah,
they're stuck with Lebron, but one more year, whatever his
contract is, he's not gonna get re upped like they
will put their foot down, I believe. So it'll allow
the Lakers to grow and eventually get out of that.
(01:03:41):
At what we what we know of the Albatros, Luca,
they're going to resign them.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
I mean, oh no, that's that's definite. I mean, but
he's better be doing his Orange Theory fitness because I'm
not sold in the least he's gonna change it here.
He was he's only twenty six. Well, he's been a
professional basketball player for twelve years, including am b.
Speaker 16 (01:04:00):
That's a lot of wear and there too.
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
Well the habits are ingrained. Okay. The final thought on
on on uh did we talked Stephen? Are you yeah?
Speaker 12 (01:04:13):
We talked?
Speaker 16 (01:04:14):
So again one of your cars here, Man, he's becoming
character like when he nailed it, that that line that
he said about now that he became Stephen Avid Brown,
because he's a lot more respectful as the journalist.
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
You know.
Speaker 16 (01:04:30):
Now, you're right, I almost took her like w w
F style, where they're back laughing it up, having drinks
behind everybody's back and just saying, let's seed this thing
to keep us both relevant because they are slipping from
the grasp of the next generation. I could tell you
(01:04:51):
that athletes and athletics in general, they better start really
doing their homework or else they're gonna lose gen Z. Hey, Bernie,
I love you, my man.
Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
Back at you, man. Good to hear from you again.
I think Allen and Saint Louis gets the credit for
the brand, and that's why they piandom one hundred million dollars.
Steven in Kansas City can't wait to hear what You've
got to see. You don't pull punches.
Speaker 12 (01:05:13):
Hello, Bernie, the best words in Sports Game seven in
Oklahoma City. You know, I think the Lakers have.
Speaker 10 (01:05:21):
Got en uphill five.
Speaker 12 (01:05:22):
They just don't have enough m or artillery for the
burgeoning dynasty here in the heartland.
Speaker 10 (01:05:29):
And with all the picks that.
Speaker 12 (01:05:31):
Okase is going to have in the future. But but
good on Jeanie, she got her money. And then Jay
Moore is the luckiest man on the planet.
Speaker 10 (01:05:41):
He's going to end up.
Speaker 12 (01:05:42):
He's going to end up with five million dollars. H
a former the former comedian, things, you're ready.
Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
To head a lock of toys, are all right? I'll
sell you what? Give me what your thoughts? Aren't you do?
He and Steven and you know the.
Speaker 12 (01:06:00):
Great thing about Shader is you're not looking at it.
We're not looking at the sunny sign up side here.
You know, he can always he can always get a
job at the Colorado coaching first Dad, you know, no situation,
you know the other other than all the money, he's
the ten million dollars he lost on his contract for
(01:06:22):
messing up a job interview with the Giants when he
had his headphones on the whole time. So you know,
let's let's he's always going to have a job somewhere.
You know, the idiot, the idiot son is always going
to be taken care of allegedly.
Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
You know.
Speaker 12 (01:06:39):
The thing the thing about stephen A here, you know,
I I'm you know, I'm a natural contrarian, but I
kind of love I kind of like stephen A. You know,
he got his bag, he got his hundred million. You know,
like the Travis Kelsey podcast. You know, stephen A can
say what his problem is is on that network, there
(01:07:01):
there's no one that is his equal, that can that
can converse with him and argue with him. Most of them,
most of it. You know, when he started that show,
most of those guys ended up on your fine network
that is that is, in my opinion, superior. So stephen
A is having to manufacture, you know, sort of crises.
(01:07:23):
I mean, the only guy who's almost as equal as
Mad Dog, and he's only on one one day, one
day a week. So stephen A's problem is like the
previous college that said he has to manufacture WWE type
controversies to justify his one hundred million dollars. So, I mean,
I like his politics. I like all the stuff that
(01:07:44):
he does. It's just that they need to get Mad
Dog on with him or someone to help him. You know,
it's a very interesting it's a very interesting thing that's
happened with Stephen. But steven a but I still listen
to him.
Speaker 10 (01:07:58):
I feel like what he has to pay.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
Thanks, Steve appreciated Listen. He may be overexposed, but he's
got a hundred million reasons to be happy. Let's go
to Sean in Mobile, Alabama. We lost, Sean. Okay, thanks Ian,
Andrew and Bakersfield Joint. This welcome and Andrew.
Speaker 19 (01:08:17):
What's up, Bernie?
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
How are you?
Speaker 19 (01:08:19):
I'm all right? So I'm optimistic about the Lakers. And
be honest, even you, probably one percent of your brain
said maybe they could win this year.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
No, no, no, I'm gonna be honest with you, Sean.
Check that.
Speaker 6 (01:08:36):
Andrew.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
I know I gave him a zero chance to win
this year.
Speaker 14 (01:08:41):
Zero.
Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
They are as a matter of fact, after not getting
knocked out in the first two round in the last
two years and like one and eight. I feel, honestly, Andrew,
they're further away now than they've been in many years.
They are further away.
Speaker 19 (01:08:55):
Continuing well, I say they would win if they could
play some deeper sense.
Speaker 7 (01:09:00):
I mean, they could have won Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
But you know what if if your ant had ball,
she'd be your uncle. You can't really do the ifs
and butts. The candy and nuts would all have a
merry Christmas, all.
Speaker 19 (01:09:09):
Right, shadoure, Yes, Okay. When I was growing up, I
got a bunch of speeding tickets over and over and over.
I got caught in veal tin going one hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Did you have some beaup there? Yeah, go ahead, my friend.
Speaker 19 (01:09:24):
Going one hundred and twenty. And then basically I became religious,
became a Christian, and then I got like no tickets
after that. But he needs, well, he needs to make
a decision that he can't do things like that.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
He's got a chance to know it before go ahead.
Speaker 8 (01:09:41):
Yeah, he's got a.
Speaker 19 (01:09:42):
Chance to still turn it around. But anyways, real quickly, Yeah,
stephen A. I remember he was the only one when
Kevin Durant got traded to Golden State that brought it
up that he thought it was ridiculous that Kevin Durant
would make that trade after losing to them. So I
(01:10:02):
respect his opinion and I listen to him. Sure, and
playing Falter Charles Berkley is sleeping during the games, So
which one's better.
Speaker 2 (01:10:13):
Hey, good call. Goods good calling. You appreciate you, man,
You've been You've called a lot. The most boring conversations
are when people agree. So you're optimistic on the Lakers, okay,
and you're not wrong about your door. But let's go
back to leadership. You know, I used to have many
talks with Jim Fossil. We talked about Colin Kaepernick quarterbacks.
Different man. You you really have to be buttoned up
(01:10:35):
to be a quarterback in the National Football League because
you are seen as a leader. And I define leadership
as influence based on trust you've earned. How do you
trust a guy doing this? Most of us have got
caught speeding. I've never been driven over one hundred and
one though, and this isn't good. Poppy in San Diego.
What's up, buddy?
Speaker 12 (01:10:55):
Everybody right here and joined the Great Show tonight midnight hour.
I want to talk about Genie budd like. I don't
know she's like. I don't like her as an owner.
She got the Lakers because Daddy, you know, yeah, you
inherit as a team. Horrible moves in my opinion, with
Lebron James giving them all the money when she could
(01:11:15):
have done something now is like she should have just
kicked them out of there. And I'm glad she sold
that team so that billions own billions and billions of
dollars that he owns from the Dodgers owner. So I'm
glad about that.
Speaker 4 (01:11:28):
And uh, you know.
Speaker 12 (01:11:29):
About Shador Sanders. Look, I know a lot of people
are bashing them because he did speed and like he's young,
there's no generation. Just got to think the psychology and
my mentality with his youngsters. They think they know it all, Bernie.
They think they know more than you and you're an
expert of what you're doing your craft. They think they're
(01:11:49):
they're better than you. They think they're better than me,
they think they're better than everyone. Why because it's that
is Dion Sanders time time, prime time. But look sharing
for him. Yes, I'm gonna cheer for him because everyone
deserves a second chance. Like I love what Sir George
Sanders did. If you saw him, he went to mini
(01:12:10):
camps with these young kids. These young kids went up
to him, they hugged him, he was dancing with him.
It shows that he's a great human being and he
has a heart connecting with these kids, these kids are
looking up to him. Yeah, he's a fifth bounder.
Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
Yeah, all right, fair enough, you're being fair enough. People
are complex. Uh, you know, one one bad days is
not a season make. But he's got to dig himself
out a bit. Steven a fire and fought on that.
Speaker 10 (01:12:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:12:37):
Look, stephen A, look, a lot of people like him,
a lot of people don't like him, like a lot
of people don't like me, and a lot of people
don't like me for my comments. But stephen A, obviously
he worked the way down from the bottom. He worked
his way up.
Speaker 8 (01:12:51):
Do I agree him playing so.
Speaker 12 (01:12:52):
Much around here? No, but he's getting paid. The Netfort
wants to pay him for there, then keep him under right, Like,
I wonder what he's gonna be doing in Oklahoma Thunder
in game seven because the Indiana Pacers. Right, But I
can tell you this. I can tell you guys this.
That game's gonna be very intense. I got a free
pick for you guys, and she is gonna bounce back
(01:13:14):
chet home grim and I believe that Thunder are gonna
win by minus seven and a half. And just remember this, Bernie,
you heard it here first. Scott Fosser is going to
be in game seven.
Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
No, No, I'm going to talk about that later in
the show. Yep, Poppy, appreciate you man, thank you and
uh thoughtful call. And you know you're you're trying to
maintain there's a lot of subjectivity. I think you're trying
to maintain some objectivity coming up. Bryce in Texas, Mike
the Leprechaun, Nick in Montana, don't go wage just please
please be patient. We're gonna get to all of you.
(01:13:43):
If you dial in anytime before one am Pacific time.
I'm getting you in as long as you as long
as you're patient, you can wait through. I'm Bernie fradder Wor.
Come to your line for the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Keep it locked. It's the midnight hour. You're
listening to Bernie Fratter Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come
(01:14:04):
to you line from Las Vegas Studios. The minute. Our continues.
Back out to the phones. Bryce in Texas Joints. Just
welcome in, Bryce.
Speaker 18 (01:14:13):
Talking about the doors Fangers, the resident Browns fan has
to jump in just for a minute, okay.
Speaker 12 (01:14:19):
And I agree with you.
Speaker 18 (01:14:20):
I don't understand why they are not pushing Dylan Gabriel
more than what they should be.
Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Well, he's getting reps against the first team I need
to the coaches have clearly seen he's far more polished,
far more go ahead.
Speaker 8 (01:14:36):
I'm happy to hear that.
Speaker 18 (01:14:38):
I just feel like I said this before to you,
the Browns is just that girl that keeps going back
to the abusive X. We've done it with like Johnny Nanzel,
we did it with Staper Mayfield.
Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Now we're gonna do it with like sor Sean Watson.
Speaker 18 (01:14:50):
Yeah, we just keep going back to these abusive players
that that's feeling in that keeps us relevant. I would
like to see either Tenny Ticket or Dylan Gabriel start
to grow under Placo and start building a legit team.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
It's Jimmy HANSLM. Dude, you sound very knowledgeable, but look,
what are you going to do? It's good to be
the king. As mel Brooks once said, what are your
thoughts on Shoe Door or the Lakers check out? I
already did she Door, I apologize Lakers or Stephen A.
Speaker 10 (01:15:22):
For the Lakers.
Speaker 8 (01:15:23):
I think this is to be determined.
Speaker 18 (01:15:26):
The guy who bought it the Lakers, Yes, he owns
part of the Dodgers, that he also owns other sports
franchises that had success as well. So yeah, you can't
defer contracts, but I think he's used to this already,
and once you get rid of the feedback contracts in LA,
I think you can start seeing him build a system
that's actually winning culture. So in the next two years,
(01:15:47):
maybe not in the next five, I think so.
Speaker 10 (01:15:50):
And then the last one.
Speaker 12 (01:15:51):
For the last one for steven A, I think that
we are addicted to.
Speaker 18 (01:15:58):
Entertainment in America and so anything that that comes down
to that Dud's South.
Speaker 10 (01:16:02):
Is for shock and all.
Speaker 18 (01:16:05):
Yeah, he might have minced his words a little bit
by k and oh, I'm glad the howl of it
Halliburton's hurt, But I mean it's got usqualking, and that's
exactly what ESPN wants. That's exactly what stephen A wants
is to have us punking over and over again. By
the way, real fast, I didn't it's pluck you last week.
Congratulations to Alfris for the French Children.
Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
All right, very good, thanks, Thanks Bryce. I appreciate your
calls as always. Right, I'm gonna I'm gonna call an
audible here because we've still got Mike the Leprechaun. We've
got Nick and Montana, Rick and Louisiana, Beast of the
East in New York. Looking forward to hearing from all
of you. So what I'm gonna respectfully ask you to
do is if you can hang on, Uh, you've got
(01:16:46):
my word. I mean, if you're dialing before one am
Eastern check that one am Pacific, which you all did
during the midnight hour. I want you to get your
chance on the air. So just hang on for a
few minutes, if you would please, because I want to
be in the middle of the call and have to
cutch it short. And you know, I got to tell
you that the Shador Sanders comments tonight have been fairly
(01:17:09):
well consistent. The steven A comments have been fairly well consistent.
I'm interested to hear that a lot. There are folks
that believe, you know that this new owner of the Lakers.
And by the way, I want to give Mark Walter props.
As I said earlier, he basically bought the Dodgers out
of bankruptcy. Well it's his Gougen Hunt and baseball management.
(01:17:31):
Frank and Jamie McCourt, the former owners, they'd run it
into the ground. They'd financially ravaged it since then, and
the Dodgers had, you know, three years in a row,
hadn't been to the playoffs. Eleven Division titles, four National
League pennants, two World Series titles, many large scale upgrades
to Dodger Stadium that costs about one hundred million dollars.
That was just a Dodger Stadium about a month ago
(01:17:51):
with my wife sixty three years old. And it still
looks terrific. It really does. And I've been going there
since before. The dh Okay Major League tenants totals every
year are incredible. They spend money on players because they're
able to. They become the envy of many other franchises
because people want to go there. And Bryce brought up
a good point. Mark Walter. You may not instantly recognize
(01:18:15):
him like you would a Jerry Jones or a Bob
Craft or a saying Mark Cuban, but this dude is
the CEO of Guggenheim. And again they're a min in
addition to the primary owner of the Dodgers and a
minority owner of the Lakers. Now he's got ownership stakes
in the La Sparks, Chelsea FC, in the Premier League
(01:18:38):
are c Strasburg and League One Cadillacs F one team.
He personally financed the launch of the PWHL and he
owns the parent company of Gamebridge. That's the annuities company
whose name dorns the arena that's home to Caitlin Clark
and the Fever and Tyrese Halibert and the Pacers. So
these people are serious people, all right. But the NBA
(01:19:03):
is a different animal in terms of buying players. The
Dodgers already of you know, with their vanity buys. Lakers
do the same thing. You can't go to Japan and
get the best basketball player in Japan and pay them's,
you know, eight hundred million dollars and defer it for
thirty years. You've got a thing called the second Apron,
which is basically the salary cap, the hard salary cap.
(01:19:27):
So look, callers have been fantastic. We're gonna get to you.
Find you remaining for fine people. Mike the Leprechaun, nickd Montana,
Rick and Louisiana Beast of the East of New York.
I appreciate your patience because coming up at the top
of the hour, we will continue on with the Midnight hour.
You are listening to the Bernie Fratto Show on Fox
(01:19:48):
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
Yep, you heard the band. Bernie Fraddle show keeps rolling
right along. My name is Bernie Frattle. We're coming to
your line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in
Las Vegas to a camp to three am Pacific, six
am Eastern, and we're going to continue on the midnight hour.
We got a little overtime. This happens now and then
if you're downing before one, you are getting in. So
let's go to Mike the Leprechaun. Mike, you've got three topics,
(01:20:18):
tackle aimnee or you.
Speaker 6 (01:20:19):
Want I know all of them.
Speaker 18 (01:20:21):
Patience is a virtue.
Speaker 7 (01:20:23):
I have the patience of job.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
All right, you're from you.
Speaker 16 (01:20:28):
I retired on Friday, by the way.
Speaker 12 (01:20:30):
And I'm going to La to be on the Benvalor Show.
Speaker 15 (01:20:32):
I digress anyway.
Speaker 16 (01:20:34):
One word for the three topics, it's a sharp word.
Speaker 8 (01:20:37):
Ego.
Speaker 17 (01:20:37):
Eg o.
Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
You will actually there's there's a similarity in all three. Yeah,
the Lakers are a glamour franchise. This is probably a
Vandybay s Door's got a big ego, and so to.
Speaker 12 (01:20:49):
Stephen A yes, so I summarize the field right now.
Speaker 8 (01:20:52):
It's so for for uh Shadar.
Speaker 19 (01:20:57):
Obviously he has a silver spoon and so.
Speaker 12 (01:20:59):
It Bronny and I'm not sure about Stephen Ahole but sorry.
Speaker 8 (01:21:06):
All right, oh my god.
Speaker 7 (01:21:07):
Anyway, so he's a sport Brad Sanders.
Speaker 16 (01:21:10):
He got two tickets for three weeks. You should put
him on the show.
Speaker 12 (01:21:14):
On your basins?
Speaker 8 (01:21:15):
What kind of fool are you?
Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
I try to keep public. Yes, all right, anything else, Mike,
I appreciate you man.
Speaker 7 (01:21:24):
He should have a career in that car.
Speaker 16 (01:21:26):
Yes, Los Angeles is burning the eyes is at the
Dodgers ten billion from a ten million purchasing then seventies.
That's pretty good. I would say, take Luca.
Speaker 7 (01:21:38):
To the fat farm this summer and I'll be in LA.
Speaker 8 (01:21:41):
Like I said, next week.
Speaker 16 (01:21:42):
I'm going to La next week to be on the
Ben Malor Show.
Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
All right, Mike going to Thanks Mike. I appreciate you man.
You know I love you. Is Mike going to the
Ben Maller show next week?
Speaker 10 (01:21:53):
Oka?
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
I wasn't sure for it. Appreciate you, Mike, uh Nick
and Montana, welcome into the Bernie Frottle Show.
Speaker 9 (01:21:58):
How are you hey, Bernie Frado, Is it you?
Speaker 1 (01:22:02):
It is me?
Speaker 9 (01:22:03):
Hey, okay, so I had well, I'm gonna hay al three.
Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
I think that.
Speaker 9 (01:22:11):
Shoulder getting pulled over going one on one in a
sixty is bad, but I think it's worse that he
went one forty four in a twenty when he's supposed
to go twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
What that's a good play on words. Might be a
little slow on the uptake, what would for me?
Speaker 9 (01:22:31):
So he went one on one in a sixty, that's
what he got pulled over for the second time. But
he went one forty four when he was supposed to
go twenty five?
Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
Is oh nicely and thanks? He it nicely done. That's
a good play. Nobody said he was supposed to go
twenty five in the NFL. I'll go to my grave
on that. That was all a manufacturer group think echo chamber.
Uh situation. Uh anyway, that's clever though, I'll give you that.
By the way, he went ninety one. Yeah, he went
(01:23:00):
one to one a sixty ninety one. And you know,
you just tell me, do you look at him different?
Speaker 9 (01:23:07):
I mean at that at that age, like it's it's
hard to stay.
Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
He's trying to be starting quarterback in the Browns, which
taking a half. I'm just saying it.
Speaker 8 (01:23:17):
His dad's sick.
Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Well, who knows, you know.
Speaker 9 (01:23:19):
I mean I can't I can't relate to what he's
going through to switch, is right? Stephen Stephen A. Smith
is just clickbait, like he's good for a hot take,
but he can't really take his word for it. He's funny,
kind of annoying, kind of reminds me of like Chris
Farley or Jim Carrey.
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Well, he's sure as how they lived in van down
by the river. I'll say that.
Speaker 12 (01:23:43):
That.
Speaker 14 (01:23:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:23:45):
And then the Lakers sale, I think, honestly, like, I
think it's a good move by the bus family. I
can't remember the guy's name that owns the Dodgers, but
they just won a championship, and so if you're gonna
hand the reins over to somebody who is winning, I
don't think it's a bad move, you know. And they
got a what ten billion or something like?
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
Crannrel exceeded the Celtics sale by four billion dollars. Unreal.
All right, I'll tell you what, Nick, I appreciate your call.
Very clever. I think it's your first time. Don't be
a stranger. Happy to hear from you. Rick and Louisiana's beneficure.
Welcome back in Rick.
Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
How are you yeah, I'm all right. How are you burning?
Speaker 8 (01:24:27):
Thank you?
Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
We're taking my call?
Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
Sure, how are you well? Thank you?
Speaker 3 (01:24:32):
All right. As far as the Lakers, I'm gonna go
on record that the Lakers are gonna go to the
finals in twenty twenty six. Okay, yeah, do you know
when the tickets will go on sale for the finals,
because they're gonna have to combat some tickets because of
(01:24:53):
the list they get them.
Speaker 14 (01:24:54):
Oh, I hear you.
Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
They're gonna go, but they're not gonna be a playing
We got to what comedy from people? Tonay, go ahead?
Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
And another thing too, if they you know, one of
the things they might want to start with is with
an apology for Caruso and a check because he was
with him and they should have kept him. He's playing
well in these finals. So unless they get a bench
another score, uh, they're not going to be there on
(01:25:22):
the court. They may be on the sideline, but not
on the court.
Speaker 6 (01:25:26):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:25:26):
Secondly, as far as she do it's concerned, I think
he suffers from cls LCS. I'm sorry, lack of common sense.
Just because the car will go one hundred miles an hour,
or if it had goes up to maybe one fifty
or two hundred, don't mean you have to try it.
You have to just trust that that it will get there.
(01:25:50):
And that's dangerous. You know what I'm saying that that
is dangerous. You're not just putting yourself. No, you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
Not just you had a ones again, that's just simple
as that.
Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
Yeah. And as far as stephen A, I think he
suffers from TMS too much Solitaire. That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
Rick nicely done that. Rick follows Nick and you got
the Nick and Rick comedy team. And I say that
in the most complimentary way. That's clever. That was clever
Nick one four and twenty five. I can't steal that.
That was that's too good. And I just I know
I got a little vehemen. It's just that this group
think Echo Chamber, had people believing that Shudor was a
(01:26:37):
first round draft pick. But I have got plenty of
NFL times and nobody I know had him projected in
the first round. Nobody. He doesn't have that superpower. He's
a good quarterback, but put him on a field with
NFL players, and we're gonna see how well it's gonna
translate our final call. Thanks for your patience. I really
appreciate it. I believe he's the first time here at
(01:26:58):
the Bernie Frouder Show. We welcome in the beast of
the East of New York. Welcome in good me, sir.
Speaker 17 (01:27:05):
I only listen to four shows on that whole.
Speaker 4 (01:27:08):
Line of twenty four hours, and here's one of them.
Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 17 (01:27:13):
I love Dan Patrick, Ben Mahler, and I used to
love Chris Bersard and Rob Parker, but the other one
I forget. But anyway, it's about the Lakers. I just
wanted away in there. Sure, I'm a longtime Laker fan,
old enough to see the Little Chamberlain days, Jerry West
stays and all through showtime and then now, and they're
(01:27:36):
a joke right now. I'm probably the biggest Laker fan
in Western New York who doesn't root for him right now.
I don't like Lebron.
Speaker 4 (01:27:44):
I will argue and debate to the end of the
year to give good facts of why I don't even
have in my top five great player, not a great person.
I had personal experience with them, you know, but other
than that, it's a joke. The players run the team,
James out and she is nothing like her father, Doctor Bosh.
Speaker 17 (01:28:05):
I mean the Jerry Watt building, the two teams from
Draft and Trades. That was the old Lakers, and they
were fun the roof board. We're now just kind of
a joke.
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
You know, well it is it is is not a
funny joke. And obviously you have the perspective of you know,
of of history and observing you know it's funny. You
say that stand a line because I was an intern
at the Forum. Magic's rookie year, and the Lakers are
(01:28:37):
the Lakers. Beast are a franchise of eras you mentioned
Chamberlain Good era transition that into Jabbar U transition that
you know, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor. Then let's get to
Jabbar and Magic and then on to Kobe Uh and
right up the line, and then you end up with Lebron.
(01:28:58):
This is the clown era. It's a clown show. Can
you imagine? You know, I mean, with all due respect
and when people have power, they wielded getting his son,
Brownie James. You want to you want to play games
like this, fine, fine, but don't try to sell me
these really an NBA player, all right, I didn't mean
to steal your time. There beast to continue on with
(01:29:19):
what you get.
Speaker 8 (01:29:19):
Oh, I know, I'm just saying.
Speaker 17 (01:29:21):
I met Magic and his wife twice and they are
very very nice people.
Speaker 3 (01:29:26):
Play.
Speaker 17 (01:29:28):
That's what players and athletes for the most party had
more clients and.
Speaker 4 (01:29:33):
Respect, especially for the people before them.
Speaker 17 (01:29:37):
Today's NFL players, they wouldn't even know who played in
the sixties. The gym motto that wore body casts his
whole life, that paved the way, the French Smirliss's and
go on and on. But they don't. There's no respect there.
It's all eye ee eyes. There's no team. You know,
contracts are way out of whack. Get all on the sons.
Speaker 15 (01:29:58):
You know.
Speaker 17 (01:29:58):
It's hard to thank god I do have an NBA title.
Speaker 4 (01:30:02):
I wasn't alive.
Speaker 17 (01:30:03):
But the Rochester Royals, who are now the sacramental change,
I believe.
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Yeah, Cincinnati Royals.
Speaker 6 (01:30:09):
Oh yeah, sure, well Rochester Royals.
Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
Well, excuse me, roch apologize man.
Speaker 17 (01:30:16):
Nineteen fifty one, they were down three nothing to the
Knicks in one all four.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
Listen, this is your first time calling the show. Don't
be a stranger. Okay, we do this every Saturday night.
We'd probably if you're in New York, we kick it
off at three am your time. But it's a big world.
It must be midnight somewhere. Thanks a lot beast, good stuff,
interesting array of callers. Everybody was outstanding, desperate opinions, desperate thoughts,
(01:30:43):
had some humor in there. You had the nickd Rick Show,
outstanding Alan and saying, listen, everybody, Okay, I don't want
to leave anybody out. Everybody brought something to the party,
and I appreciate a lot. A couple of tweets I
want to read. George Sands says, no matter how much
money in the Lake have, nothing will change until they're
out from under Lebron's contract. I couldn't agree more. They're
(01:31:05):
completely hamstrung, and I'm honest to God believe he wants
to play three more years. Here's why I say that
he's playing this year and then next year he either
announced his farewell to it or not. But then remember
he's got a second son, Bryce, who's a freshman at
Arizona this year, and once he plays one year in college.
Do you not think Lebron's gonna try to do the
(01:31:25):
same thing for Bryce that he did for Bronnie. We'll see.
I listen, I think I think Lebron suffers from the
Bobby Knight syndrome. He's going to realize when he leaves
the game he's gonna miss the spotlight a lot more
than the spotlight misses him. That's just the way I
see it. His records are, you know, undeniable, and he
has four rings. But this this whole ring pablum deal
(01:31:49):
this week when he's the guy who chased rings, and
I don't recall anybody you know dogging Barry Bonds, Ty
Cobb and Charles Barkley and Dallan Iverson and Steve Nash
and Carmelane. They're all great players. They get respect, and
they get respect for their tenure and contributions to the league. Yeah,
(01:32:09):
they didn't win. But when I got out my Lebron
English Dictionary, I realized he's saying, Oh, I know, I'm
stuck on four, but remember, I'm gonna go just ask me.
I got less rings in Jordan, I got less rings
in Magic, I got less rings. And Steve Than and
Steph Curry certainly less than Bill Russell, whoa all right outstanding.
(01:32:31):
By the way, I want to read Big rig Rob's tweets,
is Burnie my man? She'd order did something most of
us have done. Get caught speeding well speed See this
is where okay, let me read the rest of it.
The only thing he failed to do correctly was get
a layer. No, he did get a lawyer. Are we
really trying to judge a kid for speeding when the
same team signed an alleged massage therapist abuser? Sure we are.
(01:32:54):
When you get millions of dollars to play quarterback and
you're a French player at best, you got to do
your talking on the field, not by the wheel of
a car. And Rob, I appreciate you taking the time
to check in. But he got conference speeding twice, one
on one in a sixty three weeks after getting going ninety.
Allegedly didn't show up for his arraignment. Maybe his lawyer did,
but he didn't. I don't know. We don't know the details.
Allegedly he was rude of the cop, allegedly ran several
(01:33:16):
stop signs. You see, though, when you're a quarterback in
the NFL, the thinnest position in all of sports, heavy
as the head that wears the crown to who much
is given, much is expected. And uh, there's four guys
in that room. Joe Flacco's won a Super Bowl. I
don't care if he's older. He's chronologically accomplished. He's going
(01:33:39):
to start. You may or may not like Kenny Pickett.
I'm not mixed up. He doesn't throw a beautiful ball.
But he's fifteen and ten as a starter in the NFL.
That's not nothing. That's not nothing. Everybody's in love with
Justin Fields. He's fourteen and thirty as a starter, but
it's everybody else's fault. I love Dylan Gabriel. I saw
him pick apart Michigan. I don't in Michigan. I don't
(01:33:59):
think she door would have done that got him to
the You know, damn near got a national championship at Oregon.
So look, I I before this happened, My my stance
on your door was, I still am not sure he's
an NFL quarterback. You know what, don't tell me, just
show me. And I thought he was enthusiastic and working
hard and in mini camp and looked like he was
(01:34:20):
terminally happy to be part of the NFL. And then
he goes out and does this. I'm sorry, Rob, I can't.
I can't throw him a hall passing this one. Would
you cut him? No, You're going to talk to him.
The security department, which is comprised of excellent enforcement, is
going to sit him down, ask him a million questions.
He did it not once, but twice. And you can't
do that when when you're you know you were drafted
(01:34:41):
in the fifth round, and you're in the room with
three other guys deserved to be ahead of you. That's
the way I see it. Speaking of the NFL coming
up eight weeks in a row, we're going to preview
a division, and tonight we're going to preview the End North,
which I think will end up being the most competitive
(01:35:02):
division this year in the NFL. By the way, shortly
after the show, our podcast will be going up. If
you missed Danny of Tonight Show, be sure to check
out the podcast. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcast. Be sure to follow and review the podcast.
And well they told me to read this rated five
stars again in just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
(01:35:24):
get your podcasts. You see Tonight Show posted right after
get off the air. Coming up, take a look at
the NFC North. Not a little fun football's here.
Speaker 14 (01:35:30):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:35:31):
Somebody asks me when as I know when football season starts.
I'll tell you when it never ends. I'm Bernie Frattle
or come to your line from the Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the
Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. We're back on
the Bernie Fradile Show Fox Sports Radio. By the way,
for the best pregame show every weekend, be sure to
(01:35:54):
tune into Fox Sports Radio's Countown. We're ever sent up
by Ben mgm every Saturday and Sunday morning from nine
am to newon East. You're in six to nine am Pacific,
will count you down to all the biggest games. Tuned
into Countdown presented by Bett Mgm every Saturday and Sunday
morning right here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
But you say we talk a little football, We're just
(01:36:14):
a seventy plus some days away. And listen. Aren'ty said
it best? But basically been when we were. You know,
the Hall of Fame game starts, it's on. Well, look,
I want to start to preview the various divisions, and
I'm gonna start with the NFC North because this I
believed that the NFC North was the league's most competitive
(01:36:35):
division in twenty twenty four, historically impressive results. He had
three playoff teams. The irony is zero postseason wins. So
the Lions, Vikings, and Packers all hope to get back
to the playoffs again and fix that issue. But keep
your eye on the Bears. And they're paying, you know,
the salary they're paying Ben Johnson. They expect to make
(01:36:56):
this a four horse race. Will they Well, let me
start with the Lions. They're over under totals ten and
a half wins. I believe they'll go over that. The
key question for the Lions is can their new coordinators
replicate the success of Ben Johnson plus Aaron Glenn. Remember
Johnson went to the Bears as the head coach and
Aaron Glenn, a very good defensive coordinator, went to the Jets. Now,
(01:37:17):
there's history that when teams that are talent rich, like
the Lions are lose both coordinators, they struggle. The Eagles
lost Sean Steikin and Jonathan Gannon after their twenty twenty
two Super Bowl run. They had a terrible season before
the replacements are fired ten twelve years ago, the Bengals
said Jay Gruden and Mike Zimmer two thousand and four
of the Patriot said Charlie Weis and Romeo Cornell. If
(01:37:40):
you're really are going to go way back in the
mid nineties, Mitke Shanahan and Ray Rhodes were with the
forty nine ers. You right off the Lions, though, you're
making a mistake. They were beat up as hell last year.
They were beyond a mesh unit. They're going to be
healthy this year, especially at the one position. Edge watch
(01:38:00):
Aigen Hutchinson. He was probably the defensive player of the
year last year before he got hurt in Week six
and then Alliance traded for Zadarias Smith, who was a
big disappointment. Hutchinson is healthy, Smith is now free agent,
and Smith returns. They're pass rushers side of Hudson, outside
of Hutchinson is still a strength because you've got Smith
(01:38:21):
on the side of Hutchinson, who's going to command a
double team? All right. Now, I know that people are
gaga about the retirement of their center of Frank rad Noow,
but all that does is give the Lions more cap space.
Here's a guy to watch on for He's got a
very distinctive name. You know, the most important thing of
any football team. He's your offensive line. Right, They've got
(01:38:43):
a guard by the name of Christian Mahogany. Now the
A're all tired of hearing about Jamison Williams every year.
He had a decent year last year. Seven touchdowns, thousand yards,
about damn time coming out of Bama. He had some
issues himself. But here's the deal. This Christian Mahogany, who
was a sixth round pick this last year. So there,
there's your sign, as Shadoor. If you're good enough, they'll
(01:39:06):
find a spot for you. Okay. He was a rookie,
you know, after being a six round pick. He had
some spots starts, made the team and did great. He
had a very high PFF grade. He ranked seventh among
one hundred and thirty six guards in the NFL. He
will probably start. His predecessor, Kevin Zeitler, was traded to
(01:39:30):
the or He signed with the Tennessee Titans. Do I
think the Lions are going to win the division? Will
they be better in twenty twenty four? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:39:40):
I know.
Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
They lost some key lineman and lost some their you know,
their superstar coordinators. But thankfully they kept Hank Frayley, one
of the league's best offensive line coaches. You still got
Brad Holmes, you still got Dan Campbell, you still got
Jared Goff and a lot, lot, a lot of talent.
If they just have a little injury luck this year,
the lines will top five on defense and top five
(01:40:01):
on offense. Rumors of their demise has been greatly exaggerated.
I expect the Lions to be an eleven win team
minimum and win the North. The Packers they were in
total is eight and a half. The key question, I
like Jordan Love, but now there are greater expectations. Is
he good enough? He's twenty seven now. Aaron Rodgers was
(01:40:22):
twenty seven when he won a Super Bowl, So it
was Brett Favre gets how old Jordan Love is. He's
turning twenty seven this year, and he's got two hundred
and twenty million reasons to be happy, and Jordan Love
deserves it. I think he's done a hell of a job.
But it was a little shaky in twenty twenty four,
and Aaron Rodgers, you know, once said that somebody's sole
(01:40:45):
single Super Bowl trophy was looking lonely. Well, the Green
bas only got one won this millennium, okay, twenty six years.
In the position you want to watch is the receiver room.
The Packers have me the deepest receiving room in the NFL.
All right, they got a bunch of guys, and I
(01:41:06):
would say this. I mean, first of all, they converted
one receiver to cornerback, but then they drafted this kid,
Matthew Golden in the first round, on Savon Williams and
the third. These guys are studs. You're gonna be hearing
their names. Another breakout player, wide receiver Jaden Reid. All Right,
people were concerned about him maybe being the number one
(01:41:28):
receiver after the draft, but he was outstanding in all
of his workouts. And again this comes from the Athletic
their beat reporter, Match Schneidman. He said, Green Bay has
probably the most talented all around receiver on the roster.
The truth of the matter is Green Bay's biggest loss
was their cornerback Pro Bowl cornerback Jared Alexander, who basically
(01:41:50):
they cut in early June because they wanted to free
up seventeen million cap space. Jered a Lexander was talented,
but he's not healthy. A lot. He's hurt a lot.
So look, I think this is actually a slightly better
version of the twenty twenty four Packers who surprised people.
It's gonna be determined whether or not Jordan Love can
take a step up. The nicked surprise may make the playoffs.
(01:42:14):
I see Green Bay as a nine and eighteen. I
think to go over eight and a half wins, maybe
a ten and seventeen. All right, let's talk about the Bears.
The Bears wint is also eight and a half. Now,
this is the sixty four dollars question. Can Ben Johnson
translate his creativity, his offensive genius, and the success he
(01:42:34):
had in Detroit to Chicago. For the last two hiring
coaching cycles, Ben Johnson was the most coveted coach. He
was basically the number one takeaway from Chicago's offseason program.
But it's one thing to run an offense when you
got Dan Cambelllee in the organization. It's harder to do both. Okay,
(01:42:54):
Josh McDaniels certainly sure as hell couldn't do it with
the two. You know his disaster here in Las Vegas,
and Cliff Kingsbury is an offensive Genie's been a as
a head coach, not so much when he's got to
run the offense. All right, this is the thing to
watch the offensive line, because camb Williams started to win
(01:43:15):
me over toward the end of the year. He did,
but he still got a ways to go. But Ben
Johnson was able to create this monster offense in Detroit
partly because they had not only one of the best
best offensive lines in the NFL, but they were completely
It was an embarrassment of riches in all their skill positions,
you know, I mean speedy and Nichols and knuckles in
(01:43:39):
the backfield whatever hell he called him to stud running backs,
stud wide receiver, stud tight end. In Chicago, interestingly enough,
drafted some skilled players. They got tight in Colston Lovelin
on a Michigan who's got big upside and has been
conferred favorably to brock Bowers. I'm not saying these brock Bowers,
(01:43:59):
but he's good player, Luther Burden the third. But you
are going to have to protect your quarterback. As Bert
Reynold said in the Longest Yard, they allowed sixty eight
sacks last seed in Chicago, and again Ben Johnson knew that,
so he wasted little time trying to overhaul that position.
(01:44:19):
Five new players Joe Toney, Drew Dolman, right guard Jonah Jackson.
So the Bears are really kind of revamped, all right.
Last year with the wrong head coach, all all due
respect to Maddiflus just didn't work out. Awful play calling,
a mediocre offensive line, basically a defensive minded head coach.
(01:44:42):
That wasn't the best scenario for Kayleb Williams. And I
was dubious to him coming out of USC. But he's
kind of won me over a little bit and the
Bear showed some real flashes. Now we'll see if they
can build on that. All right, So Ben Johnson, should
you know, check all the backs is with it? You
know VSA V the issues the bat. You know, he's
(01:45:03):
not a defensive minor head coach. He's an offensive guy.
There was awful play calling last year. The offensive line's
been improved, and I think Ben Jonson sees Colston Lovelin
is a maybe even a slightly better version of Sam
Laporta out of Iowa who did great in Detroit. Now
you pair loved them with Dj Moore, Roma Donze, I
(01:45:26):
tell you, and this kid Burden. I think Luther burden
the third. I think the Bears potentially have a playoff team,
but you got to do it. Are they better in
twenty twenty four? Definitely, no question. Scheme changes. By the way,
Dennis Salin has never been really a great head coach.
(01:45:47):
He's not so much with the Saints, certainly not so
much with the Raiders, but he's a good defensive coordinator,
and so talent in the trenches. Talent and the skill positions.
New head coach, new defensive coordinator. You might it might
be a stretch, but I think the Bears can go
nine to eight. It'd be their first above five hundred
season since twenty eighteen, which Mitch Trubisky area laughing at. Now.
(01:46:10):
That was Mitch Trubisky who, by the way, went to
the playoffs two out of three years, was twenty five
and sixteen and completed sixty six percent of his passes,
and they would have won a playoff game had not
the double doint kick hit the goalpost. Sure things have
a way of spinning out of control with the group
(01:46:30):
think Echo Chamber. You know, Sam mentioned the Vikings, all right,
The Vikings went till it was eight and a half wins.
Then the Vikings chose to let Sam Donald walk. They
are now turning the keys to their twenty two year
old sophomore. Is just a sophomore. Well, JJ McCarthy's got
to be more than that. We don't know what his
(01:46:51):
rookie season is.
Speaker 3 (01:46:52):
Going to be.
Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
I know the mini camp returns have looked good. McCarthy
is any fishing quarterback. He does not get enough credit
with his arm, his command of an offense, his ability
to operate from the pocket. He wasn't allowed to it Michigan.
I think he could have. But he's a tremendous field
general and in the short time he showed in the
preseason last year. Again, you're playing against most guys are
(01:47:16):
going to be working at NAP Auto Parts next month.
That's nothing wrong with that. That's good, green good. You know,
Christian value is good work. You can get it. But
it's a big if you just don't know, and he's
coming off two injuries, you're gonna have the all eyes
will be on JJ McCarthy in Minnesota, right, the Vikings
chose to forego the Aaron Rodgers saga instead going all
(01:47:39):
in on McCarthy, and you know, Minnesota's got a beat.
Reported by the name of Alec Lewis, and he basically said,
you know, he asked around what is it going to
take for Minnesota to have a winning season and get
back to where they were last year? And he said,
(01:47:59):
there's five things. McCarthy's d McCarthy's aren't, McCarthy's feet, McCarthy's eyes,
and McCarthy's mind. It is all about JJ McCarthy. He
has to be their breakout player because Minnesota has a
lot of talent around him. And this is an infrastructure
starting with Kevin O'Connell, who's a brilliant coach. I think
he's superb and he was obviously Sean mcvay's offensive coordinator
(01:48:24):
in Los Angeles when the Rams won the Super Bowl.
So McCarthy is surrounded with a world class infrastructure. If
you don't believe me, well they sure as hell helped
resurrect Sam Donald's career and even Kirk Cousins right benefited again.
You've got an improved interior offensive line, you're returning Christian Darisaw,
and you've got plenty of skill position players. Will Minnesota
(01:48:46):
be better in twenty twenty four only if the number
ten pick of twenty twenty four plays better than Donald
who couldn't stick the landing in the playoffs and then
really faded down the stretch. But Minnesota could make noise
for the first time in Kevin Connell's tenure. It's perhaps
noting McCarthy has only lost one what one game as
(01:49:08):
a starter since graduating from elementary school? Do you graduate
from elementary school? Look, the kid knows how to win.
I think there's real upside there. I think Minnesota can
easily go nine to eight, ten and seven because they
got too much talent. I believe all four teams in
the division next year we'll go over five hundred. That's
(01:49:33):
the first of eight division previews coming up. What's up
with Travis Hunter? Hear we're always hearing about Shador? Why
are we hearing about Travis Hunter? And who else has
been impressing during these rookie camps in mini camps? We'll
talk about that coming up. By the way, for the

(01:50:18):
All right, back on the Bernie Friddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Come to you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Will take you up to three m Pacific,
six am Eastern. Hey, we're just fifteen minutes away from
the Dance Sensation sweep of the nation. What kind of
brand new fool you followed by what my name?
Speaker 3 (01:50:39):
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
The last time the NFL had a full time two
way player, we go back to nineteen sixty two Hall
of Fame linebacker and senator Chuck Beneric of Eagles fame.
He retired in sixty two, five years before Super Bowl
was even played. By the way, if you're keeping score
(01:50:59):
at home, I hope you are. His salary never was
higher than twenty two thousand dollars. He also had to
sell concrete as a side job on his off days.
All right, give you a lone an idea how far
the game has come. We may be seeing another two
way player. Legitimately, Travis Hunter has lit it up. There's
(01:51:20):
no question his talent translates to the NFL nicely. His
character is unquestioned. Last I checked, Travis Hunter hasn't been
pulled over for going one hundred and one. The only
uncertainty is, whew, how high can this guy go in
terms of both positions. And the other thing is to
which position do you want him on the field more
(01:51:42):
all right, I know that Hunter was seen mostly with
the Jaguars offense during rookie Mini caamp in the first
few OTAs and he was outstanding. But then their head
coach Liam Cohen put him on defense just about a
week ago, and he was learning the fundamentals and play well.
So the focus appears to be on offense and that
(01:52:04):
could be his primary role. And this is important to
know to private, to check with Mike Harmon and Dan
Byer on this. But if you're a fantasy football drafter,
it appears that Travis Hunter maybe on his way to
being a wide receiver one in his rookie class. If
he gets a guaranteed snackout, he's going to make plays
(01:52:25):
and score touchdowns and catch passes. But what we're also
finding his Hunter has gained a lot of trust from
his coaches to getting looks on the opposite side of
the ball as well. So the Travis Hunter story is impressive,
and he's impressing people. Who else is impressing people. I'll
(01:52:45):
bring up listen, I'll bring up JJ McCarthy one more time,
because when you've got a situation where the story around
him is as sensational as it is, and I think
for the right reason, and it's too bad. He you know,
he not only got hurt in the preseason, he tore
his meniscus last summer, but people who were at the
(01:53:08):
Vikings workouts said McCarthy's throws spiral the same way they
did last year, and he absorbed the play verbiage. He
stepped into the huddle, he spit off the calls, he
goes to the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (01:53:21):
He is good.
Speaker 2 (01:53:22):
You know, he's a field general, he's a leader. He's
got what I call a huddle presence. He holed out
all the cadences. He makes his reads. He did all
the things you have to do to be a successful quarterback.
And look he didn't win a national championship at Michigan
by fluke. And I know people can pick on because
he didn't put up gaudy numbers. He wasn't allowed to.
(01:53:43):
But did you notice when he had to make a
throw when the heat got hot, it was hard to breathe?
He was tremendous, all right. So look, the truth of
the matter is their fortunes, Minnesota's gonna fortunes are gonna
ride with with JJ McCarthy. But he as look good,
by the way, not for nothing. The Giants quarterback competition,
(01:54:04):
it's also underway. Russell Wilson is expected to be the
Week one starter. He's taken most of the first team reps,
but Jackson Dart's been sprinkled in with first team reps
as well, and according to their beat reporter Charlotte Carroll,
Jackson Dart has looked very impressive. That doesn't surprise me.
Another name you'll be hearing about more sooner rather than later.
(01:54:28):
I believe this was a very good pick by the
Raiders or wide receiver Jack Beck. They got him in
the second round and in the drills he constantly got open.
And the bottom line is it looks like he has
a real chance. Remember this is the kid out of
LSU six one, two fifteen. He kind of models his
(01:54:50):
game after Poka Nakua because he's got great inside outset versatility,
and he's going to be a target for Gino Smith
and I think he's kind of on from what I'm hearing.
Jack Becket's tracking to be a starter week one. You know,
we got a long way to go, but that's where
it's tracking. Terry McLaurin, I think, is a huge addition
(01:55:14):
for the Commanders. And I don't know if you've seen
the Commander's schedule this year. In addition to a very
tough division. I don't know about Dallas. Looks in Dallas,
New York and you get Philadelphia. It's no division is
easy in the NFL. It always bothers me when someone
says cake schedule. The NFL is a gauntlet. Now, some
teams have better records than others, but listen, you saw
the Raiders go into Baltimore and beat them. Okay, so look,
(01:55:36):
anything can happen at any given Sunday. It's a real thing.
Former Commissioner Burt Bell used to say Terry McLaurin was
absent from his voluntary practice because he wants an extension
for playing out the final year of his contract. He's
getting twenty three million thereabouts. That ranks him sixteenth among receivers.
I'm hearing Jayden Daniels has bulked up, put on some muscle.
(01:55:58):
That can be a good thing. Some people don't think.
They think what the Commanders did last year was a
bit of a fluke. I don't. But here's the deal.
In addition to their tough division, they get to play
the AFC West, So the Chiefs, Broncos and Charges to
be no slots. And look, even the Raiders could rise
up on a day. And I just previewed the NFC North.
(01:56:21):
They get to play the NFC North as well. By
the way, I'm a big Joey Bosa fan, but you
know they say the best stability is availability. He's injured already,
Joey Bolsa, and Buffalo needs a healthy Joey Bosa to
take the next step. I believe. Now, all of a sudden,
(01:56:41):
you know, you have to wonder if Buffalo is scratching
their head and wondering check that now understanding more clearly
where the Chargers were willing to let the oft injured
Bosa go. He pulled a calf muster during workout last week.
He's going to be silined all the way to training camp.
So look, he's a muscle bound guy. He's a superb player.
(01:57:03):
Physical dominates his position. But let's face it, if you
can't get on the field, that ain't good. Speaking of
who's on the field around the court, I want to
switch gears. Guess who is going to be the referee
in Game seven? The legendary Scott Foster. Now, look, Scott
(01:57:25):
Foster takes a beating from some people, but he's considered
a very experienced, highly rated ref The NBA regards him
as one of their top officials. They do seem to
assign him to many significant games. He has extensive experience.
He's been in over sixteen hundred regular season games, hundreds
of playoff games. He has a strong personnel. He doesn't
take any crap. But the player perception, Scott Foster has
(01:57:48):
been voted the worst referee by NBA players in multiple
anonymous polls. Because he got this nickname the extender. He's
believed or perceived to be an extender of play plaoff
series due to a trend where teams trailing in a
series tend to win games he officiates. Now, this is
a popular nocean. The group think Echo Chamber, you know,
(01:58:11):
obviously goes overboard on this, but there's a lot of
data and analysis that can suggest otherwise. He does have
a connection to Tim Donaghy. He exchanged numerous phone calls
with Donaghey, was involved in betting on NBA games with Foster,
was never be clear, never accused of any wrongdoing in
the federal investigation. Foster also, as you know, has a
(01:58:31):
very contentious relationship with Chris Paul when Chris ball plays
and maybe it's a coincidence. I don't know the Paul's team.
Chris Paul's teams have had an incredibly poor record in
playoff games officiated by Foster, and he's been involved in
several controversial calls that have sparked a lot of reactions.
In summary, Scott Foster may be a side show on
(01:58:52):
Sunday Night, as I cannot wait. I mean, we are
now what fifteen hours away from game seven to best
words in Sports? Well, guess what, We're just ten seconds away,
six minutes away from what kind of brand new fool you?
And what my name so keep it locked and listening
to Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:59:12):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio rad Yep, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:59:16):
You heard the man. The Bernie Friddle Show keeps rolling
right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We are coming
to line from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in
Las Vegas. And you know we've come to that juncture
in the show. You know you love it, you can't
live without it. Yep. It's the dance sensation sweep of
the nation because you see here on the Bernie Fridle Show,
(01:59:37):
as Yogi Berr would say, you could observe a lot
by watching, and that's exactly what we do. Because around
this great country of ours, from seed to Oily Sea,
and certainly around the globe and the planet, well, people
engage in behaviors, odd behaviors. Sometimes sometimes they're innocuous, Sometimes
they're just silly and stupid. Other times they're far more serious,
(01:59:58):
and you run a follow the law and they can
even become behaviors that land someone in jail. But anyway
you slice it, any way, you characterize it, anyway you
describe it. These behaviors that we allude to, well, they
always leave us scratching our head and asking ourselves, what
kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 1 (02:00:24):
What kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 2 (02:00:28):
Well, this one might be the weirdest one I've ever done,
because it just defies the imagination. We take you to Littlestown, Pennsylvania,
Nesslon Adams County, and we introduce you to Cole Williams,
nineteen year old young man who well, like a lot
of folks, just trying to make a buck, just trying
to get along in the world. Not sure if this
(02:00:50):
was his side hustle or his his main gig, but
he decided to sell something recently on I guess what
they call it a Facebook marketplace, and uh, certain people
in the state Gaming Commission uh saw the post, and
(02:01:13):
a concerned citizen called the Gaming Commission and said, uh, yeah,
you might want to look at this. This one looks weird.
You know, often the police get tips from people, uh,
and that can lead to that can lead to a rests,
you know what happens all the time. But in this
particular case, and by the way, you should know in
(02:01:33):
case you live in Pennsylvania or even thinking I'm moving there, possessing, importing,
and selling exotic wildlife species without the proper permits is illegal.
Of course, you know that. Everybody knows that, and say, look,
these laws are in place to protect the public as
well as native wildlife species because there's dangers and harm
(02:01:54):
created by proper handling of these quote exotic species. As
a matter of fact, right on their website, the Pennsylvania
Game Commission says the Operation Thief program quote serves to
protect wild birds as wild mammals and encourages those who
have information related to wild life crimes report the details
as soon as possible. And that's exactly what happened. So
(02:02:15):
officials took a little visit to mister Williams home and again,
guess what mister Williams was trying to sell on Facebook?
A six month old kangaroo hiding in a closet. And
mister Williams well, he ended up pleaning guilty to three
(02:02:36):
summary accounts of unlawful importation of wildlife to summary accounts
of failing to acquire required permits. I have no idea
how the hell he got this kangaroo. They found the
kangaroo hiding in a closet. The Game Commission did the
kangaroo was seized, taken to a facility where it could
be cared for, and mister Williams will have to answer
(02:02:57):
to the judge. Now, I'm all for anybody he wants
to be earnest and try to hustle and make a buck.
But if you're gonna be hiding kangaroos in the closet
and that's going to be your source of income, well
you're going to run a final with the game Commission
in Pennsylvania. Is is mister Williams found out the hard way.
So we asked you, mister Cole nineteen of Littlestown, Pennsylvania,
(02:03:19):
what kind of brand new fool you? All right? Ian Roddy.
You are a veteran at this game. You've had some
very good brand new fools in the past. Take it away.
Speaker 20 (02:03:31):
Yeah, I've had some good ones in the past. I this,
like you said ahead of yours, Bernie, this might be
the weirdest one I've done. I'm about to take you
on a journey here, so go. Our story begins in Wichita,
Kansas and this is just from back in May, so
you know, just over a month ago.
Speaker 21 (02:03:48):
Now, yes, thank you, Mark. Now there's a man named.
Speaker 20 (02:03:53):
Gordon Pierce who at the time owed a drug dealer
a lot of money, about twenty thousand dollars, according to
reports now, to repay the debt, Pierce's plan was to
sell copper. Kind of a unique plan there, but he
would get that copper from stealing statues around town.
Speaker 2 (02:04:09):
Now.
Speaker 20 (02:04:09):
He was reportedly driving around in complete desperation looking for
copper statues to sell to repay this debt he had
to the drug dealer when he came across a giant
metal cannon at a place called Riverside Park, so Bernie,
this is an eight hundred pound cannon from the Spanish
American War. It is made of copper, and it's been
sitting It's been in that park since nineteen hundred, so
(02:04:31):
well over a century. It's been sitting there now. Pierce
told investigators now that he recruited a nearby homeless man
to help him by offering him drugs. The two men
got high on meth together before initially trying to lift
the cannon into the bed of Pierce's truck, which they
weren't able to do obviously because it's eight hundred pounds,
(02:04:51):
so they ended up hooking it up to a chain
attached to the back of the truck's hitch so that
he could tow it off of the pedestal that it
was on. So Bernie, he dragged an eight hundred pounds
Spanish American war cannon through the streets of Wichita, Kansas
until the chain eventually snapped.
Speaker 21 (02:05:10):
This isn't over yet.
Speaker 20 (02:05:11):
He left the cannon there in the middle of the road,
fled to a friend's house for a new chain. So
he then hid the cannon in that friend's garage. So
he did get it to the friend's house. Inside the garage,
he chopped the cannon up into five chunks, loaded the
pieces back into his truck, took them straight to the
drug dealer that he owed money to in hopes that
he would settle his debt. Now, the drug dealer, as
(02:05:34):
you might imagine, was pretty pissed off at him, calling
him an idiot. Terrified, Pierce went to his mother's house,
confessed and fell asleep. Then when he woke up, police
were there to arrest him, and now he's in jail.
His bailist set at like two hundred thousand dollars, I thought,
which is like ten times more than he already owed
the drug dealer. So he just dug himself a much
deeper hole. So Gordon Pierce, what kind of brand new
(02:05:57):
fool are you?
Speaker 2 (02:06:00):
Boy? Did that have a lot of moving part?
Speaker 20 (02:06:02):
Oh my god, I know the guy must like to
talk to because the amount of detail that was in
this article I read like he must have just been
babbling to police and once they got their hands.
Speaker 2 (02:06:09):
On him, well, he's probably safer and jail it out,
because it seems to me like this drug dealer is
looking for some retribution.
Speaker 8 (02:06:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 21 (02:06:18):
I hope they catch that guy.
Speaker 2 (02:06:22):
And that's exactly why we call this what kind of
brand new fool of you? Rousing additions of what kind
of brand new fool of you? Which now allows us
to segue into our second favorite bit that we refer
to as what my name? And here we go? All right?
(02:06:43):
Most recently, actually, let me try that again in English, Yogi,
I recently became the latest Major League baseball player to
homer against all thirty Major League Baseball teams. Now, mind you,
thirty two players have done this in history, but this
(02:07:06):
particular player just did it Saturday, becoming the most recent
player to homer in all against all thirty two Major
league teams. Ian Roddy what my name? And by the way,
here's a clue. I just got traded from a prominent
(02:07:26):
ALE East team to a prominent NL West team.
Speaker 21 (02:07:32):
Well, I might just get it because of your clue.
Is it Raphael Devers?
Speaker 7 (02:07:35):
You got it?
Speaker 21 (02:07:36):
All right?
Speaker 2 (02:07:37):
It's a winner. Raphael Devers picked right up on it.
All right. Let's stay in San Francisco. Believe it or not,
but this proud franchise. I'm still the last San Francisco
Giant to get thirty home runs in this season. Mark Ramsey,
(02:08:00):
what my name? And here's a clue. He hasn't been
voted into the Hall of Fame for alleged steroid use.
Speaker 3 (02:08:10):
Is it?
Speaker 21 (02:08:10):
Very bighead bonds?
Speaker 2 (02:08:12):
It is nicely done. Because I was going to talk
about that was going to be my next clue. He
had a head the size of two bowling balls, which
he seemed to be shrunk since he retired. Wow, what
a coincidence. Huh? All right, let's mix in a little football.
So I currently am the only NFL running back to
(02:08:34):
run for one thousand yards in each of the last
four seasons. Ian Roddy what my name? And I'm no
longer on the team I did it for. And that team.
That team actually has a new quarterback that's forty two
years old. H I played my college football at Alabama.
Speaker 21 (02:09:00):
I'm gonna guess Derrick Henry.
Speaker 2 (02:09:02):
That's a good guess. It's not Derek. Yeah.
Speaker 21 (02:09:03):
The new quarterback thing proved me off a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:09:05):
Yeah, it's Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback of the team
I played for. I'm the only NFL running back one
thousand yards in each of the last four seasons. Mark Ramsey,
what my name?
Speaker 21 (02:09:18):
Can I dial for a friend?
Speaker 2 (02:09:21):
Absolutely?
Speaker 21 (02:09:23):
Is that many clues?
Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
You guys can? Oh, okay, so let's give you another. God,
it's hard for me to come up with a clue
here with that.
Speaker 19 (02:09:30):
I just.
Speaker 2 (02:09:33):
Okay. His last name might be the same as someone
who lost their run for the presidency last November. That's
a pretty good clue. Either one of you guys, you're
gonna kick yourself. You go ahead. Ian?
Speaker 21 (02:09:52):
Is it nag Harris?
Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
It is, in fact, Nagie Harris. Why don't we stick
with football? Believe it or not. I'm the most sacked
quarterback in NFL history, Mark Ian Roddy, whatn't my name?
(02:10:14):
And by the way, I'm now on my third team.
But I'm still playing. And I'm sure. First, I'm a
sure Hall of Fame Yeah, I'm a sure Hall of
Fame ballot player.
Speaker 21 (02:10:27):
I think I know this one? Is it Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 9 (02:10:29):
It is?
Speaker 2 (02:10:29):
In fact, Aaron Rodgers's sacked more than any other player
in history.
Speaker 21 (02:10:34):
Added a lot to that total last year playing for
my Jets. So mister Carr doesn't make that list of
sacked quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (02:10:42):
Well, see, that's a really good point. Mark. The difference,
of course, is Aaron Rodgers has been playing since what
two thousand and seven, and Narrick car didn't really breaking
his lead to twenty sixteen.
Speaker 21 (02:10:53):
I thought the amount of sacks he would just outdo everybody,
just joking, He.
Speaker 2 (02:10:58):
Damn near would have if he played long. Yeah, there's
no question about that. All right, let's go a little
deeper into the cookie jar. We're not that far removed
from March Madness. Really not, well, kind of maybe, But
a few saturdays ago, during March Madness, I became only
the second coach in college basketball history to lead four
(02:11:23):
teams to the Sweet sixteen. Mark Ramsey, what my name,
here's a clue. One of those teams was Kentucky, where
he's probably most notable for his tenure there. Mark Ramsey,
what my name?
Speaker 21 (02:11:39):
Oh Kentucky, Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (02:11:41):
No longer at Kentucky. Oh Kentucky.
Speaker 21 (02:11:46):
I could see his face, but I can't think of
his name.
Speaker 2 (02:11:50):
That's all right. Last March, Madness on the second Saturday
became the second coach in college bass calling history to
lead four different teams to the Sweet sixteen. Ian Roddy
what my name? Here's a clue, currently coaching in the
SEC and obviously had a pretty good first year.
Speaker 21 (02:12:12):
Yeah, is this coach? Cal John Calipari?
Speaker 2 (02:12:14):
Cal John Calipari. You guys are on fire. Raphael Devers,
Barry Bonds, Notatierras and Rats n Calipark. Let's keep it,
just keep it going. This one's a little tougher because,
aside from John Calipari, I'm actually the only other coach
who led four teams into the Sweet sixteen. Mark uh,
(02:12:37):
let's start with you. Ian Ian Roddy, what my name?
Here's a clue? His son.
Speaker 9 (02:12:43):
Was.
Speaker 2 (02:12:44):
I thought he did a good job, but he was
fired at UNLV as a head basketball coach last April.
Speaker 21 (02:12:49):
I'm gonna get Rick Patino, Not Rick Patina.
Speaker 2 (02:12:52):
Yeah, Rick's at New Mexico they need a left. You're
on the right track.
Speaker 21 (02:12:55):
Yeah, I was gonna say Patino either way.
Speaker 2 (02:12:58):
Yeah, farewell, But yeah, I probably threw things off with
the sun. But think about this. The only other coach
to lead is lead four teams to the Sweet sixteen
history of college basketball. His last coaching job was at
Oklahoma before retiring. He's currently retired. He also coached at Florida,
(02:13:19):
coach at UNLV, coached in the NBA, coach at Illinois.
His first name rhymes with Ron, but it's not Ron.
His last name is eerily close to a grocery store
chain in the Midwest.
Speaker 21 (02:13:41):
Somebody named Kroger.
Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
Oh you're getting We're warming up, We're getting close. You're
getting close. First name rhymes with Ron. Anybody going once,
going twice? The legendary Ln Krueger, a very respected guy
in coaching ranks. Yeah, it was actually Lon Kruger. All right,
all good, all good, All right, let's go to the
(02:14:06):
distaff side. I am the winningest coach in NCAA history
in women's basketball. Mark Ramsey, what my name? I'm still coaching?
And uh my last star to send Beckers, not Don Staley,
not Don Stay. That's a good name.
Speaker 20 (02:14:26):
Though, Bernie, I was about to get it wrong, but
your hint I think just gave it to me as
a gino.
Speaker 2 (02:14:33):
Oriama still can't I still can't believe he hasn't attracted.
Some of the things he said about Caitlin Clark last
year just really stupid. Man. All right, let's continue on
a couple more here. Uh, this one's a little tricky,
but I'm gonna clarify it. I'm one of only two
(02:14:54):
players to play in an NBA Finals Game seven for
two different teams. You can get either one, but let
me start with the one because here, here's why the
question is tricky. There have been guys that have sat
on the bench that have been on different teams that
(02:15:16):
were part of a Game seven because they were on
the roster. Okay, but but one of only two players
to to to play actually in a Game seven in
the NBA Finals. So, Ian Roddy, here's your clue. I
did it with san Antonio was the most recent team
(02:15:41):
to do it. And my nickname is big Shot.
Speaker 12 (02:15:47):
Oh man, I.
Speaker 21 (02:15:49):
Feel like I should know this, san Antonio. I'm just
gonna say, Monogenobili.
Speaker 2 (02:15:57):
It's not a bad guess. I think spent most his
whole career, you know, at this one, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 21 (02:16:03):
You're right, And he was his whole career though.
Speaker 2 (02:16:05):
Yeah, but all good? Uh, because this other guy.
Speaker 21 (02:16:09):
I think he's a guy does it?
Speaker 2 (02:16:11):
He does it?
Speaker 21 (02:16:11):
Does he currently do? Lakers?
Speaker 2 (02:16:14):
Uh?
Speaker 21 (02:16:15):
After game?
Speaker 2 (02:16:16):
You know, I think he? I think he does. I
think I've seen him there.
Speaker 21 (02:16:19):
Yeah, because he's won like a bunch of trophies with
various teams.
Speaker 2 (02:16:22):
He was, he was all around it. And his nickname
is big Shot Bob. What's his full name? What's my
full name? You're gonna get it now?
Speaker 21 (02:16:31):
I don't, I don't.
Speaker 2 (02:16:32):
I covered the five Pistons. Robert or it is Robert
Rory big shot op? All right now, I said one
of two names, Okay, the other guy to do it?
H He hasn't been an NBA Game seven since twenty sixteen,
which is the last time there was an NBA Game seven,
(02:16:53):
but he managed to win the championship with that team.
Think about that.
Speaker 6 (02:16:57):
What my name?
Speaker 2 (02:16:59):
Either Mark or Oran whoever can get it?
Speaker 1 (02:17:02):
I think?
Speaker 3 (02:17:02):
Is it?
Speaker 14 (02:17:03):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (02:17:03):
Lebron?
Speaker 2 (02:17:03):
It's Lebron. It's absoutely Lebron James? All right, last one, guys,
I'm actually the only Japanese born baseball player in the
major leagues to have two hundred and fifty home runs?
Mark or Ian?
Speaker 21 (02:17:25):
What my name is it Otani?
Speaker 2 (02:17:28):
It is Otani Son, the honorable Shotani. It was funny
because I remember what a prolific hitter it' youerro was right,
believe it or not? Is oh? I say this only
here one hundred and seventeen home runs with three thousand minths.
So all right, excellent job on what my name? And
excellent job on brand new fool Mark and Ian? Very good,
(02:17:50):
very good, and we are off and running with another
crazy addition to what kind of brand new fool you?
And what my name is? Now in the books. Hey,
By the way, you can stream this show and all

preset Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app and will

the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios here in Las Vegas.
So we beat the Lebron thing up pretty good. This
whole ring culture. What I would call you more inscrutable
(02:19:01):
oratory from Lebron. And you know, the one thing I
didn't spend a lot of time on is the nonsense about,
you know, people disrespecting athletes who didn't win a championship.
And I challenge you who exactly is disrespecting Ernie Banks
(02:19:22):
or Charles Barkley or Jeff Bagwell and Craig Bigio. Right,
how about Algend Baylor, Barry Bonds, Paul Olburray, Dick Buckis,
Rod carew Ty Cobb, Marcel Dion, Patrick Ewing, Mike Gardner,
Ken Griffy Junior, Ken Grifford Junr never won a championship.
You look at him any different? George Gervin, George Gervin, Yeah,
(02:19:47):
you know what if you want to see what George
Gervin look like back in the day. Look at Shay Gilgis.
That's how George Gervin look the iceman. One of the
most prolific scored in NBA history. How About maybe the
greatest tight end to ever play the game, Tony Gonzalez
of the Kansas City Chiefs, incredible, had almost fourteen hundred
catches pro bowler fourteen years. Number one. Tony Gwynn, the
(02:20:10):
late great Tony Gwynn. How many people in history knew
how to swing a bat like a magic wand than
Tony Grinton, better than Tony Gwynn. Eight time batting champion,
fifteen time All Star. Roy Halliday rest his soul died
in the plane crash, spent the first twelve years of
his you know, being a lone star the Toronto Blue
(02:20:31):
Jays handing the ball and he wins. There's a guy's
still playing. James Harden been an All Star, you know
many times. Look, we've talked about this, Alan Iverson. There's
another name, right, I didn't even mention, you know, John Stockton,
Carl Malone, right on down the line. Look, look, Lebron,
you know, with all due respect, as I said earlier,
(02:20:53):
you know, Lily Tomlin one said I always wanted to
be somebody. I just once i'd been more specific. I
think Lebron just wants to be somebody. And playing fifty
eight years in the NBA and scoring a bazilion points
and getting four rings with three different teams, that's not
enough for him. He's got the Bobby Knight syndrome. And
if Lebron ever retires, which I have no idea if
he ever will, he doesn't want to. You know, Bobby
(02:21:18):
Knight suffered from what I call you know, he he missed.
He realized after he retired he missed the spotlight a
lot more than the spotlight missed him. And I think
that's Lebron right now. So he's got to get up
there and talk while the NBA finals are going on,
because all right, we covered all There's been lots of
news on soccer. They spelled the sport football, futbol. We
(02:21:40):
are now closing in on what should be a pretty
interesting World Cup in twenty twenty six played here in
North America. It's time for Chris Purfett's World of Soccer.
Speaker 22 (02:21:51):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama.
Speaker 1 (02:22:07):
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 23 (02:22:11):
We talked in bits and pieces about it through the
last couple of weeks Bernie, about the FIFA Club World Cup,
how we would look, whatever would happen with it. We
are about a week through it now and starting to
really get a sense of things as the international break
rolls back. So on this edition of the World of Soccer,
we are going to go through the good, the bad,
and the ugly. Let's start with the good. There has
(02:22:33):
been a lot of talk when it comes to the
matter of what this would really look like and European dominance.
I echo the words of Gabriel Marcatti, the great soccer journalist,
who talks about it a few weeks ago, about this
seems to be exactly what we wanted, maybe not in
the form we wanted, though that we wanted to see
(02:22:54):
less about European dominance, and I worry that European dominance
would continue. However, we've gotten some interested results, and a
lot of that is that I said, hey, you know,
keep an eye on some of the Brazilian clubs. They'll
make a they'll make some fun of it. Well, I
mean two match days in for most groups and the
Brazilian clubs are really making themselves known. Between Flumenes, Flamengo,
(02:23:22):
Botafogo who beat the reigning champions of Europe, Paris Saint
Germain and Paul Marris all sitting atop their respective groups
as of Saturday night, and it's it's really fascinating to watch.
I think maybe there is some motivation gap that is
going for the Brazilians, but it also shows that really
(02:23:44):
the Brazilian clubs have never really been in the spotlight
for a lot of the high end North American watchers,
in for a lot of global watchers of soccer, and
maybe they deserve some recognition. And we'll see what happens
when we start to get towards the round of sixteen.
And probably one of the most important good things about
it seems to be there is growing interest in the
(02:24:05):
Club World Cup. There's been a few reporters talking that
clubs are buying in in spite of the fact that
it is at the end of an extremely loaded soccer
calendar in odd years, which used to be considered for
a lot of rest for a lot of guys, but
clubs do seem to like the idea of going to
this event.
Speaker 21 (02:24:22):
And for the payouts that come with it.
Speaker 23 (02:24:25):
And there is a report out that Brazil is interested
in hosting the Club World Cup in twenty twenty nine.
Not surprising because we just talked about the Brazilian clubs
having such good performances so far and I'm sure they're
fans with love a home field advantage. Now a couple
ugly entries before we get to the bad Auckland CITYFC.
Now they have been included as the lone Oceania representative
(02:24:48):
for the Club World Cup. Unfortunately we have the problem
in that they have been outscored ten nil and six
nils so far. That might just be because Auckland CITYFC
is not a professional club. It is full of part
timers and amateurs. In fact, a lot of their players
actually couldn't make the Club World Cup because they had
other jobs to work. It's kind of funny and it
(02:25:11):
would be acceptable if it was a US Open Cup
or a FA Cup in Britain, but here it's just weird.
Speaker 1 (02:25:20):
Now.
Speaker 23 (02:25:20):
I will be rooting for them in their final match
against Boca Juniors, but I don't expect them to do
anything ugly. As well has been attendance which has been
up and down. In some places you could see close
to ninety ninety four percent attendance. In some of these others,
it's actually closer to thirty percent or barely half full.
(02:25:40):
And that's really not something when you're trying to put
on a Club World Cup that I really think is
a really good look. And it's unfortunate that, but it's
kind of the reality of some of these clubs. People
aren't just going to travel, and that kind of dovetails
into the bad because this is a tournament at the
end of the day that struggled to get media partner
to carry in broadcast these matches until the final month,
(02:26:05):
and here in the United States.
Speaker 1 (02:26:07):
Most of it's on his own.
Speaker 23 (02:26:09):
Most Americans haven't heard of that service unless you happen
to be a very deep boxing fan, and there's only
a couple games every now and then on TBS. Another
bad is unfortunate, but the champions of Italy, Spain and England, Liverpool,
Monopoly and Barcelon are not represented here. We talked about
(02:26:31):
the previous episode and I still strongly believe that needs
to change period and there's no avoiding it. But the
heat is an issue, no real way around this. The
heat wave that is coming. But even still, this is
a going to be hosted. We're talking about games in
Charlotte and Miami in June and July. It was never
going to be anything that is cool enough for soccer. Unfortunately,
(02:26:55):
the bad mark about this has been come stems from
a few around Charlotte, from a since deleted post by
US Customs and Border Patrol that they be providing additional security,
which has made people worry. I'm I'm embarrassed as an
American to even talk about this, that people are fearing
for their safety because of border patrol or because of
(02:27:17):
ice by trying to attend games. And you may say
they have nothing to fear, but we've seen ice grab
both US citizens and guests of this country and people
who are legally supposed to be here. We can't ignore that.
You cannot ignore that, period hard stop. This has been
an extremely large dark cloud hanging over the head of
(02:27:38):
the United States. Who is expected to be a host
A host A host it means no threat can come
to you or guests. A host, you have to be generous, magnanimous,
show hospitality, show welcoming spirit, and make no mistake about it.
This Club World Cup is a test run for what
next year the actual World Cup will look like. People
(02:28:01):
have concerns about their safety in the United States from
people who are supposed to be keeping people safe. You
can't dismiss that, you can't shrug it off, you can't say, oh,
get over it. If you can't control this, people.
Speaker 1 (02:28:15):
Will stay away.
Speaker 23 (02:28:15):
According to people who have been talked to, they already
are in the Club World Cup, and frankly, that's a
disgrace either way. We will be keeping our eye on
the Club World Cup as it heads towards its knockout rounds,
and hopefully we'll have some interesting drama that isn't just
more European clubs on top of this to really make
it worth its while. USA has gotten back on the
schneid again, which is good.
Speaker 2 (02:28:36):
It's good.
Speaker 21 (02:28:38):
We'll talk about all that next time in the world
of soccer.
Speaker 2 (02:28:42):
All right, the world of soccer. We'll see what happened
is next year in the World Cup. Often people's greatest
fears don't come to pass, the real fear it should
be Can this US team equit themselves for once in soccer?
I'm talking about the men's team. We shall see coming up.
We wrap up the show, and yes, the Thunder and
(02:29:02):
Pacers fourteen hours and so away from writing their own
chapter among finals Game sevens. What are some things to
watch for on Sunday and what are some things you
might not have thought about? I'm going to fill in
the blanks coming up him Bernie Fraddle were company live
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked.
You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
(02:29:24):
All right, wrapping it up on the Bernie Fraddle Show.
Before I go any further, I want to thank my
producers tonight, Mark Ramsey and Ian Roddy. Great job, guys,
appreciate the effort, the professionalism, turning on all the dials,
keeping us glued together, taking all the phone calls in
the raucous midnight hour, and of course what kind of
(02:29:44):
brand new fool and what my name? Good job to
Ian and Mark.
Speaker 12 (02:29:51):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:29:54):
We got game seven. By the way, in case you're
wondering the last time the Thunder found themselves in the
game seven, well, they blew out Denver by what thirty
two points in the final game in the Western Conference
semifinal series. But Indiana had some recent history as well.
Remember the Pacers took Game seven on the road in
(02:30:14):
New York in the twenty twenty four Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The top eight players from that team they went by
twenty one are still with the team. Remember they fell
to Boston in the finals last year the Conference finals,
but every game was super close. They didn't have Tyrese
Haliburton in their final two games. So these teams are
(02:30:38):
set to write their own chapter tomorrow later on today.
Excuse me, we're what fourteen hours away or a little
for thereabouts from tip off? Can't wait? So what can
we expect? And by the way, I'm not quitting now.
I picked Indiana to beat the Knicks. I had Indiana
(02:30:59):
in Game six on the money line. I've texted my
ticket to Mark Medina for proof. And I'm picking Indiana
in game seven. You may think I'm crazy, but I
covered the Pistons when Rick Carlisle was there. I know
how smart he is, and I give me a game
of this nature, and I really think coaching and experience prevail,
(02:31:21):
and I give the nod to Indiana on both fronts.
Could I be wrong, of course, But what's interesting is
what I don't think anybody is considering is how close
the game this should be Sunday. I know they're eight
point dogs, but you know this, Indiana is a forty
(02:31:41):
eight minute team, and I'm not going to rule out this.
This the way this series has gone, would you be
shocked if it went overtime? Because I wouldn't you. See,
you got to remember there's only been nineteen game sevens
in NBA, I think, since nineteen fifty seven. In nineteen
game sevens in the NBA Finals, two of them went
(02:32:04):
over time. All right, But here's what's interesting. The average
margin of victory in game seven in the NBA Finals
average is six point seven points. That's the smallest of
all finals games. The past six final NBA game sevens
have been determined by less than seven points. That may bide, well,
(02:32:25):
if you're taking the points in Indiana do so? You know,
should you be inclined to be feeling saucy about this,
let me show you how that applies to this series
as well. Get this. Through the first six games of
the Thunder Pacers series, the thunder of outscore the Pacers
(02:32:45):
just six sixty two to six fifty five. That's seven
points cumulative. That's an average margin of victory of one
point two points per game. So if you're expecting a
lopsided game Sunday, I think that's not to be expected.
Could I be wrong? Sure? I would not expect that,
all right. The second thing is Rick Carlile is tricky,
(02:33:07):
He's crafty, and he you can count on him to
expect the unexpected. Look what he did in game six.
Carlisle came up with a very clever change in game six.
What has Indiana been known for? They played with tenacity
and pace both offensively and defensively all season long. But
(02:33:27):
what do they do in a surprise tactic that I
think confused? Okay?
Speaker 3 (02:33:31):
See?
Speaker 2 (02:33:31):
In game six, they tapped it down, they throttled it back,
and they held, Okay see in ninety one points in
Gamebridge Fieldhouse. Right, this is a guy, Rick Carlile, that
knows how to put every trick in the book, every
excellent on the table. And now if you think he's
run out of a supply of things to do to
(02:33:51):
get the best out of his team and confuse, okay, see,
then you don't know Rick Caylisle. All right. Remember how
the first few games they were appreshed shuring the thunder
from the moment of the inbounds pass, they were hanging up. Okay,
they set up more cohesively into a half court defense,
and then they sent helpers at coach at the Thunder's
(02:34:12):
lead ball handler most of the time it was Shay Gilgess.
Then they had earlier in the series. Frankly, they they
really swarmed him. They brushed him. And the truth of
the matter is, Alex Cruco admitted, because we didn't do
a good enough job adjusting to that and trusting the
way we played previously, they were confused. It was a
speed bump. Crucer went on and say, quote to that point,
(02:34:34):
we'd seen every attack defensive this year, whether it be
for Shade doub Williams, the whole team. People play aggressive,
people play soft plays, don't play trap. They sit back
and plug. We're prepared for whatever it is about going
out there and recognizing the right one and taking advantage. Well,
they weren't in Game six. Now. Coach Dagnall said he
has a card or two to play as well as
(02:34:56):
long as it doesn't you know, you have to do
with shifting his guys into thinking too much when they
should be flowing and reacting. You can be sure they're
going to be thinking too much. There's only one team
that wanted a Game seven. It was not Okse. This
team has been athletic, they've been exciting, they're talented, they're young.
They've not been in NBA Game seven finals, and neither
(02:35:17):
has this NBA Pacers team, Indiana Pacers team, but they're
more experienced. I believe Pascal Siakam has a championship. Rick
Carlisle had one on Dallas. I've said all along this guy,
we are seeing what I believe with what people end
up being one of the greatest circle of life stories
of any coach ever, because back in four to roh five,
(02:35:37):
when Rick Carlisle was hired to coach the Pacers, he
had a hell of a team. They were on their way.
They'd won a ton of games a year before and
were unceremoniously knocked off by Larry Brown's Pistons. But on
November nineteen, two thousand and four, everything changed. The mouse
at the Palace I know I was there, and they
set back the franchise years. Twenty years later, in twenty
(02:35:58):
four to twenty five, Rick Carlisle was doing with the
n NF Faithful Hope the do back in four and five.
Have you ever seen a coach return twenty years later
to the circle of life shape like a basketball whereas
this is something that can actually happen. Carlisle's seen it all,
He's learned the lessons. He knows how to get into
his game plan, he knows how to make adjustments. This
(02:36:18):
is all new for Dagnall. I'm convinced of it. It's
gonna matter now they're home, Oklahoma City's home. But that
might mean there's more pressure. So listen heavy as a
head who wears the crown, we will see if oka
see and it'll be a referendum. You do Tire's Halliburton
will get a crew, get a you know, get the
chip or Shay Gilles is Alexander and there's no guarantee
(02:36:40):
in this world either one of them will be back
to the finals, much less a championship. Just ask Dan
ma Reno. I think you're going to see backcourt play
very prevalent. Okay, they're gonna need a big game out
of wingman Ben Mathron. I think Obie top And will
be there. But listen, watch for tg O'Connell. Okay, the
(02:37:04):
undrafted guy thirty three years old, became the first bench
player in Finalist history to ten points, five assists, five
steals in the game. And the guy plays like his
Arizon Fire in its reigning gasoline. Kind of reminds me
of JJ Barrea, who was the backup point guard who
up to twenty eleven Dallas Mavericks upset the Miami Heat
who coached that team. Yeah, Rick Carlisle PJ McConnell's greatest
(02:37:27):
strength is in counting the stats he gets. It's his
floor burns, his elusiveness. He's rarely shooting for more than
ten twelve feet away. He's very sneaky, he can reverse directions,
he can swipe passes. He's all over the place. And
maybe we'll see it. Maybe we'll see something out of
the center tomorrow. Miles Turner. He's been doing great job
opposing bigs beyond their defensive comfort zones, but he's only
(02:37:50):
made five of his twenty five to three point attempts.
Maybe he steps up on the other side. I think
you're gonna need to see Chuck Holmgren step up as well.
Even though Carlisle gave him a lot of respect, there's
been stretches they haven't dealt with him. This will be
one hell of a chess match. Don't expect to think
he can predict how this game's going to end or
what the score will be. I just think it's going
(02:38:12):
to be closed, and I will not be surprised if
Indiana wins. These teams have leaned tremendously unintangibles to get
to this point, and I expect that to show up big.
Both teams are better than the sum of their parts.
It's going to be a highly competitive, highly exciting game.
It's going to do it for the Bernie Fraddles Show.
I'll be back on the airwaves next Saturday night, eleven pm.
(02:38:33):
In the meantime, keep it locked and Andy Furman is
up next.
