(00:26):
way tire buying should be absolute jam packs show tonight. Yes,
the sports cornucopia World of sports. That's the Department of Redundancy.
Department keeps right on rolling along. Yes, there actually is
life after the NFL? Is there? Or well? Well, he
(00:48):
did have the NBA All Star weekend? Meh, how about
Matt McClung and the three peat? Mech Now USA Canada hockey?
That was epic three to one for the good guys
in the four nation faceoff. It was epic. Number one.
Auburn and Bruce Pearl beat Alabama Today. I watched it
a game. Oh yeah, pitchers and catchers report, But are
(01:11):
the conversations as interesting? See? I haven't had a chance
yet to give you the one last look as to
the Super Bowl paging the Philadelphia Eagles likable, impressive, dominant, superlative,
called them champions. Now let the copycat offseason begin as
(01:32):
people start to analyze, how the hell did they do
this with such raw efficiency? If you saw the parade,
there was a bit of a metaphor Howie Roseman. They're brilliant.
Wonder Kin gam who once wrote a letter to every
NFL team saying I've never even played football or stepped
(01:52):
down a field, but if you hire me as your
general manager, I'll be the best general manager in the
history of football. Wrote over thirteen hundred letters to all
thirty two teams. Finally, Mike Tannebaum said, I gotta at
least meet this guy. Ironically, he didn't have an opening,
but he knew someone who did. If you saw Howie
Roseman get hit in the head with a beer can
(02:12):
in the middle of the parade, open to gash, he's
cutting me. Flying beer can doesn't miss a be I
bleed for you. Philadelphia, so on brand, so resilient, so clever.
You want to know the Eagles secret formula, I just
(02:36):
told you it's Howie Roseman. A lot did he do it?
Because everybody's gonna try to figure it out now here's
all you gotta do. First of all, Howie Roseman built
this Super Bowl champion by winning in every single facet
of roster construction. Hell, that doesn't hit home for anybody
(02:56):
more than me. I covered ten Detroit Lions drafts, and
every year Dan Matt Millen would draft another wide receiver.
Here's how the Eagles did it. In case your rival
GM who's taking notes, one, draft well, draft very well
every year, draft very well, early and often. So all
I got to do, right, Well, here's what Holly Roseman did.
(03:19):
The Eels have had exactly twenty seven draft picks in
the last five years. What if I told you twenty
four were still on the team, and eleven of them
are absolutely significant contributors. Jalen Hurts, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens,
Jalen Carter. Another strategy. One of the things Howie Roseman
(03:43):
likes to do is focus on players who produced against
top college competition. If you look at Holly Roseman's draft board,
just look at the college football title game. Then again,
the greatest pick of this are Uah was the seventh
rounder back in twenty eighteen. Keet out of Australia who
(04:05):
never played football named Jordan Malatta, now one of the
NFL's best tackles. Write this name down, Howie Roseman, still
nobody's perfect. I guess you don't. You want to find
the ward on Lincoln's knows. Howy Roseman actually drafted Jalen
Rager one spot ahead of Justin Jefferson. Okay, okay, Babe
(04:29):
Ruth struck out thirteen hundred times too. Number two. They
not only draft well, Howie Roseman, they win the majority
of their trades. One example, after you had an opportunity
to really evaluate and look at Howie Roseman's trades in
the last five years, he essentially moved the already benched
(04:51):
Carson Wentz and four picks for rookie contract DeVante Smith,
Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter plus AJ Brown. Oh my god,
he picked their pockets. Have them arrested. Howie Roseman wins
by trading back in the first round and moving for
picks for players seeking contract extensions like AJ Brown. Now,
(05:14):
he did make one bad trade four years ago. He
traded a fourth rounder for thirty two year old Bears
defensive end Robert Quinn. So if Day three you make
a bad pick once in five years. Check that trade.
We're gonna give you a haul pass. So they kill
it in the draft areta. They kill it in the
trading arena. That leaves free agents. Hy Rosaman manages to
(05:37):
sign great free agents. Their latest offseason was one of
the best in NFL history. They had multiple veteran signings
added probably some of the most valuable talent and valuable
additions for any team in the last fifty years. In
the past fifty years, the Eagles were the only team
to make the Super Bowl with two free agents signees
(06:00):
first Team All Pro Saquon Barkley and linebacker Zach Bond.
By drafting higher earning players and signing veterans at non
premium positions like Saquon Bartley and Zach Zwon Bond, excuse me,
Philly maximizes every single dollar. Now. Their latest offseason, believe
(06:23):
it or not, could have been even better. Their highest
priced free agent, Bryce Hoff, who was a former edge
rusher for the Jets, three year, fifty one million dollars.
He actually was a healthy scratch in his Super Bowl.
Turns out that I guess they really didn't need him.
But the other thing that Holly Roseman does better than
anybody else, because we're in a salary cap era. Howie
(06:46):
Roseman somehow manages to navigate the cap better than anybody else.
That Carson Wentz trade was at the time saddled with
the largest dead cap in NFL history thirty three point
eight million, which happened to be eighteen percent of that
year's cap. They still almost made the twenty twenty one playoffs.
(07:06):
But let's we forget the Nick Siriani era. They've made
the playoffs all four years in the Super Bowl twice.
Quota won both Super Bowls. They didn't, but they won one.
Fast forward to five years from now, the Eagles salary
cap total is already one hundred and twenty nine May
Now only eight teams have pushed money that far into
the future, and none have come close to the Eagle's allocation.
(07:31):
But Roseman tried to tell people four years ago they
see debt cap money as an interest free loan. Here's
his quote, quote Howie Roseman, it's no different than when
you're trying to buy a house. If you have the
opportunity to buy a house and put all the cash down,
or the interest rates are really good, and you're going
(07:51):
to pay it over time, Why wouldn't you use that
money now and understand that as it goes forward you're
able to do that end quote. In other words, if
the cap continues to rise, void years allow you to
push hits into the future when they take up a
lower percentage of your total cap. It's Hoyer Rosemand. Guy's
pretty smart, isn't he. So any team that refuses to
(08:14):
backload contracts with void years when the cap will be
higher in futures is putting their current roster at a disadvantage.
For perspective, here were the twenty twenty four cap hits
for the Eagles offense compared to the cash and money
spent in void years. Wayne Johnson, their cap hit was
fifteen million, the cash spent was twenty Jalen Hurts their
(08:37):
cap hit would be fifth thirteen million, the cash spent
was forty I'm not going to do the whole thing.
Aj Brown, Jordan Mylata, Dallas Goddard, DeVante Smith, Atlanta Dickinson,
Sakuon Barkley all huge contributors. Now, those bills are going
to come due eventually, just as the New Orleans Saints.
But I don't think Holly Roseman's to work about it.
(09:01):
Here's another quote from four years ago. He said, quote,
if you said to me in the next five years,
we're going to the playoffs four times, we're going to
win one World Championship, and we're going to have a
horrible year when I sign up for that. Yes, Well,
they went to the playoffs all four years and went
to the Super Bowl twice in one one. The bottom
line is, all you have to do is clone Howie Roseman.
(09:27):
He's proven. It's incredible. He knows how to draft, he
knows how to win the majority of his trades. He
knows what to do when it comes to free agency.
By the way, he also knows how to manage the
cap like nobody's business. Now, we've got a lot of
NFL stuff to get here too later in the show,
(09:47):
because the off season is here and the NFL is
twenty four to seven, three sixty five. Now, there are
lots of questions we'll try to answer as far as
the NFL off season goes, including what appears to be
quarterbacks who you might not have thought would be on
the move that are going to be on the move.
(10:07):
We've LUSA got incredible NBA stuff. We got stuff coming
out of Boston, We've got you got it right, and
in about five minutes. Doug Anderson, my good buddy, a
big time doctor, chiropractor and Bray California chiropractor to the
world class athletes, Olympians, professional football players. He's been on
(10:30):
my show before. When DeMar Hamlin went down, we asked
Doug what happened? He called the commocial quartus. He nailed
it and said Tomar Hamlin would be back. He is.
When Aaron Rodgers had the Achilles, he said he'd be back,
and he'd be healthy and he'd be Okay. They didn't win,
but everything else was true. And then when Tua went
down with the concussion, and people were screaming, please retire,
Thuk said he's going to be fine, and he was.
(10:52):
Now pictures and catchers are reporting there's a broad consensus
that pitchers continue to chase max effort velocity and driving
major injuries. I'll want to get Doug's perspective on this.
Did you know there's only one pitcher in the Major
League Baseball Hall of Fame that had Tommy John surgery. Yeah,
(11:12):
you guessed it, our good buddy, John Smoltz. Hey be

Speaker 2 (12:03):
We're back at the Birday Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio, Keny,
live from the tire Act dot Com studios here in
Las Vegas. Take after three am Pacific, six am Easter.
Just getting started. Welcome and a gentleman, a good, good
buddy of mine, going back to high school. We've been
on our show many times. He nailed the Damorrow Hamlin situation,
Commercial Cordis, he nailed the Aaron Rodgers situation. Achilles predicted
(12:27):
he'd come back and play the full season without incident,
and he did. And the tua tongue of a lowest
situation after everybody's screamed retire and the concussions, he said
he'd be fine, and he was. Now we're gonna talk
major league baseball pitchers. Say hello to doctor Doug Anderson. Doug,
good to be with you again, Buddy, Hey.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Greg, glad to be here.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
So let's take it from the top, because pictures and
catchers recorded that reported or they're reporting now, and there's
a continued broad consensus that pitchers continue to chase max
effort velocity so they can get to the big leagues,
but it's not really working. Take that anywhere you want,
start at thirty thirty thousand feet and to send downward
(13:08):
because we have an endemic in Major League Baseball with
pitching injuries.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Well, the first thing I'll say, because you get I
love that John smolfstat and that is fifty percent of
the hardest throwers in twenty twenty three have had Tommy
John surgery. So it won't be long before he's for
a whole bunch of guys in the Hall of Fame
will join him having had the elbow reconstruction.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Yeah, as long as these guys can pitch a full season.
About Walker Bueler, a guy I'm a big fan of.
He's had it twice and now he's on his way
to Boston, so yes, he's tell us what you.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
See is the success rate for two surgeries is only
about sixty percent. The success rate for the first ones
about eighty percent. But when you when we talked months ago,
you said, we're look into this for me, and I
really did take a deep dive and I looked at
all kinds of things and our mango release point, lower
broady mechanics, everything, and you know, even an overuse was
(14:05):
the one that everyone was talking about that basically, it's
not over use, Okay, it's it is pure and simple.
It is reelow and spin rate game over I mean,
that's it in a nutshell. Today's pitchers start fewer games,
they pitch fewer innings, they throw less pitches, they have
(14:26):
more rest. Every team has a huge strength, conditioning and
performance staff. You know, historically or mechanics led the injury. Today.
Look at the look at the radar gun and when
they go into the dugout, they get the they get
the iPads out and look at their spin rates. So
what's interesting. In the past we looked at you remember,
(14:47):
it used to be rotator cuff with what really what
Riddy tailed the pitchers. But guess what we every pitcher
now before they get hurt, is on a Rotator cup program. Right,
So the rotaer cup injuries have gone down. But it's
really hard to do a program for a little teeny
ligament on the side of your elbow. And basically, if
you're lucky enough to have a millimeter or two thicker,
(15:10):
you build genetics, you might you might last a little
bit longer. But you know this thing, I mean it
is it is absolutely you can't throw as hard as
you can every single every single pitch, whether it's a
fastball or it's an offset because again you're still trying
to get that spin rate up. And all you got
to do is look at the scats over the years,
(15:32):
you know, I mean, look at right now today. For
nineteen o one, nineteen forty five, we averaged two pitchers
a game, and then it took forty five years ago
from two to three, and then it only took twenty
five years to go from three to four. But at
that same time, everything's going.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
Down except for the elbow injuries.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Twenty eleven, forty three guys averaged over one hundred pitches
a game. In twenty twenty three, that is zero and
zero in twenty twenty four. In twenty eleven, eighty one
guys through over ninety pitches a game. Now it's down
to like thirty three. I believe average over ninety pitchers
so pitches, excuse me. So that's what's going on. They're
(16:17):
going to have to pay themselves. And I come up
with a solution and that because if you tell it,
you you know, back in the day, they of course
they pace themselves because they have to go nine innings.
What we need is we need a rule that says
you can only use three pictures for every nine innings.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
And what if they if.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
They put that rule in, then the guys would be
forced to pace themselves. And if you're forced to pace yourself,
guess what, you know what, you're not going to throw
max volume every single time. What's going to happen? Then? Well,
the law of unattended constantquences. Guess what it might It
might help the hitters a little bit, But that's okay too,
(16:55):
if we could drop the elbow injuries and we can
help the hitters. Because remember it's nineteen oh one when
the ALE started. There's a batting champion each league. There's
been two hundred and forty eight batting champions. Right of
those two hundred and forty eight, there's been thirty nine
of winned batting champions jim hitting below three point thirty
and eleven have hit won a title hitting below three twenty.
(17:20):
In the last seven seasons, seven of the last fourteen
batting champions have been hit have hit under three thirty.
That means that in the previous one hundred and seventeen seasons,
only thirty two out of two hundred and thirty four
hit less than three thirty. It's even worse for three twenty.
Only eleven in history have you won a batting title
(17:41):
getting under three twenty. And in the last four seasons,
thirty seven percent of the batters and won titles getting
less than three twenty. So when people say we have
a pitching problem, saying even though we had Llow injuries,
they're dominating the hitters, So I'm thinking they have to
pace themselves. Batty just might go up a little bit,
(18:02):
and if they go up too far, all we have
to do is move that strike zone back to where
it used to be when you and I met in
the little league.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
So Doug hold that thought, because I'm going to add
to that and take the conversation to the next level.
But I play a little baseball, as you know.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
And we're quite good.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
So here's where I'm going with that. Pal As a hitter,
I'd much rather face velocity than movement and location. To
make my point, Greg Maddox never threw hard. He won
three hundred and fifty five games. He struck out over
three thousand guys through one hundred and nine complete games,
thirty five shutouts. Where am I going with this? You
raise a lot of good issues, But the problem starts
(18:46):
much earlier than that, because Major League baseball and amateur
baseball are interconnected. The factors that create this scenario in
the first place are because young pitchers are chasing for
a lot. You got to show a scout they can
throw hard and short bursts. The radar guns in their face,
dollar signs are in their face. Kids know the velocity
(19:09):
and metrics of every pitch, and the thing that goes
most into someone's recruitment profile is velocity, spin rate, and
vertical break. So Doug take it from there. You got
to deliver this message to the amateur leagues and then league.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
When you and I met, you had little league season
and that was it. We weren't doing travel ball, we
weren't doing two or three, we weren't doing two teams
at the same time. We were not doing is. We
were not playing all year long. So there's no question that,
you know, overused for the little ones is definitely a thing,
there's no doubt, you know, but hold.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
That fact because we went to high school together as well.
We played probly about thirty games in high school, then
about thirty games in the summer. Then when I went
to college, we have about sixty six games. So it
does jump up in those formative teenage years.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
It sure does. And here are the kids that are
too young. They're in multiple league for any So there's
no question that this is that on the you know,
the baseline, for the young ones, there is definitely overuse,
there's no question, and they're you know, they're doing too
much before their bodies have developed. But that's to me,
that's a little bit different than the big boys, because
(20:21):
the big boys. You know, we talked when we go
back the way back machine. You know it used to
be when we met, when you had open day introductions, right,
the training staff was like one or two people. You
know that we have we have strength, we have none
to have the strength coach. We have a whole strength
and strength team. We have conditioning teams, performance teams. When
(20:43):
they do the introductions, there are many there's you know,
twenty five players. There's way more staff now than players
that never used to be. So, you know, these guys,
there is so much that they have that they never
had before.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
And yet we.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Can't keep these elbows. The elbows keep breaking. Why is
it again? They won't face themselves. Well, why would you
pace yourself? If you tell them to pace yourself, they
want to paycheck. The only way to do this is
to say, hey, you get three pitchers every nine innings,
and now you're going to have to pace yourself. And
you know, it's kind of like when we when we
(21:19):
hit with the relief pictures, when it got so crazy
when they were coming into you know, to face one
batter at a time. It's like, hey, you got to
you gotta have you got to face at least three batters, right,
And the same thing with the pitch clock. I used
to watch Kaby Jansen then it would it would take
twenty minutes for him to get three outs because he
wouldn't throw a ball but every forty five seconds. And
(21:41):
we fix that problem and it's been really good for
the game. When people say, well, the pitchlock calls the
elbow injuries, no it didn't. Just look at the stats.
The elbow injuries were exploding before the pitch clock, and
the elbow injuries actually haven't gone up, you know anymore
with the pitch clock.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Time with doctor Doug Anderson, big time chiropractor doctor in Brea, California,
works with major athletes, olympians, et cetera. All right, let's
focus back on the high school level and college level. Overall,
UCL surgeries are up about twenty percent in the last
(22:21):
five years, and they're up sixty percent in the last
twenty years. And players drafted in the first two hundred
picks in Major League Baseball UCO surgeries are up thirty
five percent in the last ten years. Tell the folks
exactly what a UCL surgery is in what exactly is
causing that?
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Well, well, what's causing it is is the VLO. It's
this NAX effort, much more I think than than overus
for mechanics. It is NATS effort, at least at the
pro level, because these guys at the pro level are
no longer already we've never had. Twent four was the
(23:03):
first time in MLB history that the innings pitched leader
for both leagues through less than two hundred and ten innings. Right,
so they're pitching fewer innings. You know, twenty twenty four
nobody averaged one hundred pitches. Again, so they're throwing less bones.
There's there's the guys that lead the league in shirts.
Now we're only doing thirty three starts, so they're starting
(23:25):
with so in other words, there's a wait a minute,
there's a lot more rest, there's a lot more time
between games and during the games there they are not
throwing as many pitches. So it comes down it comes
down to the below and the spinning rate, which and
again the spin rate you're throwing your off speed just
so far. Now the the olmar co lateral ligament, you know,
(23:46):
there's the upper arm bone is the humors, and then
there's the alment and so This is a ligament, is
something that connects bones to bone. So yeah, this little,
this little fit, I mean, it's not a strong ligament
at all.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
It's little.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
It's only a few millimeters, right, And this is the
thing that on a max effort is it just can't
hold up. There are sixteen muscles that cross that elbows weight.
And again, you know when you let's say you're doing
bench press and you're doing bench pressure warming up, you
know you're doing a lightweight, right, only a small persentional
(24:18):
of fibers have to fire. But if you're going to
max on the bench press, now suddenly every single muscle
fiber has to fire bam. So that's what's happening with
sixteen muscle saucing this elbows when they're throwing. Is that
you know, it is set up for a disaster. Okay.
And again, anyone that fitted the weight, you can't go
and max every single time you work out or you're
(24:42):
going to get hurt. And right, I mean the whole
thing is, you know, you're trying to work out to
prevent injuries, and unfortunately when it comes to this the
colatter ligament, it's not like the rotator cuff. We every
picture now is on a rotator cuff program. Well before
the don't wait till they get hurt.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
They're on them.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
You know, they're all on roches cup problems. And guess
what it works because the roachander cup has four little
muscles that state wise, the shoulders wint underneath the big
strong chest, shoulder and back muscles. This. But unfortunately here
there's you know, there's there's no way to do this
other than to say, you know, you've got to pace yourself. Hey,
(25:23):
no one Ryan didn't throw you know, he didn't start
out the game, nor to kullbacks ord to get it
thrown as hard as they can because they knew they
have to say something in the tank because they have
to go. No one is going to pace themselves to day.
And I wouldn't paste myself either unless you force them to.
So again, I think it's an obvious solution is three
(25:45):
pitchers per game for the first night innings, you know,
and they're gonna have to pay themselves. And I think
that happens boom. You're gonna see the injuries go down,
you're gonna see batting come back up.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Dereg I got to share this with you because you're
a tremendous stat, Maven, and I know for a fact
that Nolan Ryan would ride the bike for an hour
after every start to strengthen his legs. But in June
seventy four, when Nolan Ryan was with the Angels, he
actually threw two hundred and thirty five pitches in one
game against the Boston Red Sox. Oh, by the way,
he made his next start on three days and won
(26:20):
the game. Did it recon arm No, he pitched nineteen
more years. Where am I going with this? You brought
up something a minute ago that I can't resist. You
talked about the amazing staffs and medical staffs the team
has privately. Teams have privately. Tommy Lesora used to be
really pissed off and pitchers got hurt and players got her.
(26:41):
For that matter, he once started yellow one day. He says,
I don't know what's wrong with you guys. This team's
got three doctors, seven trainers, massage therapists, medicine men, blah
blah blah. He goes hell. Back when I was playing,
we had one trainer and one bottle of rubbing alcohol,
and he usually drank it all by the seventh inning.
The question is dog is what what can these staffs
(27:03):
do because we are finding out, believe it or not,
my research shows that in recent seasons, the injury spike
is actually happening in spring training. Pitcher injuries have much
greater before the season, but they start to decline in season.
What's your theory on both of those issues. Training staff's
doing a better job and injuries in spring training versus
(27:27):
the regular season.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
I think I think it's the guys that are already
on the verge of getting in trouble, That's what I think.
And the guys that and the guys that are the
guys or the few that have that little sticker ligament
are going to last longer.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
You know.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
You know, there's been over one thousand Tommy John surgeries
and MLBS, you know since you know, since nineteen seventy four,
over one thousand of them seventy percent forty has happened
in the last ten years. Thirty five percent of all
MLB pitchers have had Tommy John surgery and fifty percent
of the hardest throwers had Tommy John surgery. So I mean,
(28:03):
there it is.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Last thing, Doug great stuff is always We'll be looking
for the return of Shoho tany this year on the mound.
You correctly predicted tomor Hamlin Aaron Rodgers into a tongue
of ALOA. I don't think he's going to start at
the beginning of the season, but we'll see him sooner
rather than later. How do you expect Shoyo Tani to
fare this year in terms of his durability on the mound?
Speaker 4 (28:28):
Well, as a fan, I sure am hopeful, and hopefully
it's because you know, they're going to have a six
man rotation, so I would be surprised to see him
go on top in one hundred. But if he can
do ninety seven ninety eight, I'm gonna be I'm going
to be happy. So that's that's my hope for show.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Hey, well, the question is, well, you think he'll I
assume the Dodgers to be back in the postseason. You
think he'll remain healthy enough on the mound after this
surgery to be able to pitch into the postseason.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
You know what, I think? I think there's a damn
good chance he will, because again that the Dodger strengths, conditioning, performance, medical,
those guys, I mean, it's a giant staff and they're
gonna be watching him. You know, he's gonna be under
a microscope every single I mean, every single pitch he throws.
They're going to analyze. So I'm anticipating that we're not
(29:22):
going to have the catastrophea last season, which, ironically right,
they won the whole thing anyway, even though they didn't
have a single man on the postseason staff that pitched
one hundred innings, nor do they have a single pitcher
that won that won ten games, and yet they won
the whole thing. So I think this year, even if
(29:44):
even if half of their guys go down, shit, they've
got They've got ten you know, pitchers that most teams
would like. So I think it's you know again, they're
going to have a six path rotation with extra rest,
So I'm hoping that that's gonna that's gonna solve a
lot of the problem at rest until we change the
rules and go to my idea, which by the way,
(30:05):
was inspired by you telling me, hey, go go figure
out the other bolt thing, I think I've got to
figure it out. I think we have to have him
taste themselves. I don't think they're going to taste themselves
until we forced them to do so by a real change.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Doug great stuff. Major League Baseball claims they're investing the
manpower to prevent this epidemic. We'll see. We're going to
have you on sooner rather than later to see how
the progress goes as a new season of upon us.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
Thanks again, Doug, You're very welcome, Bertie, take care.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
That is Doug Anderson, doctor Doug Anderson and brea a
man a wealth of knowledge in sports and kinesiology, sports
injury surgeries, and not just baseball. I mean football. Told
you he nailed the Tomorrow Hamlet thing. He nailed Aaron
Rodgers thing to a right and down the line. And
Major League Baseball is trying to get out in front
of this. Okay. They claim all their research and their
(30:54):
implementation of intelligent programs have to do with off seat
and picture training and early season workouts and workloads, non
game between game training activities, biomechanics and pitching styles, measuring
picture fatigue, picture injury trends, and try to manage injury
(31:15):
management and other foreign leagues not just here but in
Japan and Korea. Amateur baseball and their injury risk factors.
The injury rate of amateur players in the US versus
amateur players and other countries is different. Why they claim
they're looking into that. I guess we're all gonna find
out why. Hey, be sure to tune in check out

(31:58):
going to get to the Donk contest and Mac McClung
and Anthony Davis and Draymond Green and Luca and even
Tristan Thompson with a little dust up. Mark Medino will
be joining us in about twenty minutes. But first, is
it true his Juan Soto already pissed off the Mets
fan base? Is Juan Soto off to a rocky start
(32:21):
with the Mets and he's only been there eight weeks.
I'll tell you what's going on coming up you decide. Hi,
Bernie Fradle, we are coming you live from the tyreq
dot com studios here in Las Vegas. Fox Sports Radio.
Keep it loted. You're listening to The Bernie Fraddle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. How right back at the Bernie
Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio, about thirteen minutes away from
(32:44):
Mark Medina Medina Magic Shee. You think there's some things
to talk about in the NBA. By the way, I
got a tweet from one of my listeners, Patrick Albert.
He says, how about talking USA Versus Canada hockey game?
It was a big story for many levels. Great show
was always don't worry, man, I won't forget national audiences
don't have a hell of a lot of love and
(33:05):
appetite for NHL hockey. And it's a bit of an
enough butter knee. But I got to play the hits.
I covered the Red Wings for years, man, I was
privileged to be up close and personal Scottie Bowman. Look,
I'm going to get to it. It's going to be
in the fourth hour of the show. If anybody doubts
whether or not there's a rivalry or some people care
(33:25):
enough people care about USA Versus Canada, just look at
the first ten seconds of the opening periods. These two
countries hadn't played a best on best game in almost
ten years. The juice has got flown incredible. The game
was played Manchiol, the star spangled banner was booed. Gottr
Hellibuck clearly the better goalie. It was clear that the
(33:49):
Team USA had the advantage of net and it proved.
But I'll get to you. I'll get to you some takeaways.
In the fourth hour. Pitchers and catchers are in camp.
She ain't gonna be long now baseball this year, I'm
here for it. Man is one Soto. Remember that one
Soto is the one who got seven hundred and sixty
(34:11):
five million dollars to sign with the New York Mets.
Seventy five million dollars signing bonus. He's only going to
make forty seven million each of the next two years,
forty three million and twenty twenty seven and forty seven
man and twenty eight and twenty nine and forty six
man each of the remaining final ten seasons. You know,
(34:32):
that's only fifty one million a year on the average,
nine hundred and eighty thousand a week, one hundred and
forty thousand a day, six thousand dollars an hour. And
then in the last minute, it took me to recite
that he made one hundred Bucks, How was your day?
SODA's only been with the Mets, shish, what eight weeks,
and it looks like he's already made a public relations
(34:53):
club with the guy who they couldn't wait to kicking
the butt out of New York, the Bronx, that is,
you know what do you wanted them? But then the
minute he rejected you, the foul language and the four
letter words and some of the incredibly funny YouTube and
TikTok videos just ruled the guy or like a runned mule.
I mean, they just destroyed him. But the Mets about
(35:15):
a week ago held their quote unquote annual Okay, let
me try that again in English. I can do better.
The Mets have an annual event called quote Amazing Day,
you know the Amazing Mets. It's held right at City
Field in Queens. It's on a Saturday, and the damn
things sells out every year and it sold out this year.
And the beauty of it is it gives fans an
(35:37):
opportunity to meet players who did this in Detroit for
fifteen years on covered with the Tigers. They have Tiger Fests,
so the people in cold weather clowns, you know what
I'm talking about. It just gets your juices flowing, and
it gives the fans an opportunity to meet players, get
a kind of a behind the scenes look at the ballpark.
But one player that fans did not get to interact
with was no. Not Alweiss, not Ron Sooboo, not Tom sever,
(36:01):
not Gary Gentry, not Dwight Gooden, not Darryl Strawberry. It
was Juan Soto. One Hello, Hello, this sing on paiging
Juan Soto. Apparently the Mets announced that morning with no
notice that Sodo would not be able to attend amazingly
because of quote flight difficulties. There were no further details provided.
(36:30):
Is that because I hate to be that guy? Is
that because the reason there were no further details is
because this book's missing a chapter and that's a chapter
that the Mets did not care to share. Is that possible?
You see a couple of days before, Soto was attending
Game seven of the Light of Championship series between Leoni's
(36:54):
Del Escodito and Tigre's De Lise in the Dominican Republic.
Soda was there for that matter of fact, he was
in the dugout with light set. It was very animated.
Throughout the game. Never even played in that league for
obvious reasons, but he's very open about loving the league
and wanting to be in that league at some point
and getting fired up over the game. And there's plenty
(37:16):
of video with Juan Soto there, so he could make
it to tigery As de Laici as they were trying
to become the first lead them team. Stop me for
this all year to three pet Okay, yeah, well, you
can watch it on MLB dot com. It turns out
that Soto is an honorary member of LESI who lost
the game six to five. He's been open about wanting
(37:38):
to play in the Deadmacon win a league for Lys
at some point. Why would you do that? So either
Sodo actually had flight difficulties and milked it for what
it was worth. Oh, he just planned to remainder the
Dominican Republic all along. Now, if you're a Mets fan,
you have a damn complaint. This is the lame excuse.
This is a bad look for a player who just
(38:00):
signed a fifteen year, seven hundred and sixty five million
dollar contract to not show up for their version of
fan fest. Oh, by the way, Soto also gets a
free use of a luxury suite up to four premium
tickets behind home plate for regular season in postseason for
Mets home games. So sweet's not enough. He gets four
of the highest priced seats in the house. The Yankees,
(38:20):
whose last offer to Soto was seven hundred and sixty
million for sixteen years, which he turned down, said hell no,
not no, not up in year. We're not giving you
free suite. We didn't give one to Aaron Judge, we
didn't give one to Aaron Jeter. We're not giving one
to you. Got it, Juan Soto, you pay for it,
he said. Knack Audios also win the deal the number
(38:42):
twenty two claws. You know who wore number twenty two
for the Mets last year. Of course you do, Brett Batty.
Sure everybody knows that he's won it for three seasons.
Apparently Soto did not have the class to do what
Johio Tani did by Joe Kelly a Porsche so he
could get the number seventeen he wanted, or what Steve
Garver you did for my buddy Tim Flannery back in
the day when he wanted number six. When Garv got
(39:05):
traded to the Padres took Plan up to San fran
bought him a twelve hundred dollars suit that was nineteen
eighty three. Very nice gesture. He didn't give Betty anything.
It's part of his contract. But the one thing Soto
does have to do is by the remaining allotment of
Baty number twenty two merchandise. Okay, it's per rule. Sodo
also get security for him and his family for all
(39:26):
road and home games, five hundred thousand bonus for an MVP,
A million dollars for every MVP after that. Okay, I
could go on, but you really don't want me to
show up for FanFest, Sodo? What the hell is going
on with the Dominican Republic? That's so damn important. You're
already bugging me, and I got a feeling this might
not go well. I'm not wishing it on him, but
(39:47):
they're not off to a good start in the Little
Apple coming up, Mark Medina, Medina Magic, We got NBA.
Keep it locked and listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Don't listening no Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Well that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Fraddle
Show keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Froanda.

Tyrec dot com the way tire buying should be well,
(40:27):
we do it every Saturday night at midnight Pacific time.
There's always news twenty four to seven, three sixty five
three simple words. It's that time, Mark Medina, Medina Magic
every Saturday night on the Bernie Fradile Show, twelve midnight
Pacific Mark. As we say when I sign off every week,
(40:49):
we'll see what the news cycle brings. There's some new
things and there's some additional I would say information coming
out on some other stories. So let me first save aloha.
Speaker 6 (41:01):
Are you I'm doing well? This is that mcmac mcclun
first ever three time dunk champion, first time ever in
the history of the league, monumental.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
Just just absolutely scintillating. And I know as the NBA
All Star Week and continues to be immensely popular. We're
going to get to that in just a second. But
as we like to I like to pat myself on
the back. We have a journalistic bent. I got to
run this by you. According to somebody named Jerry Wolfel
(41:35):
of Wolfele's press box, with regard to the Luca trade,
is it true that the Mavericks initially approached Milwaukee about
swapping superstars? The Bucks said no. Then they turned their
attention to the Minnesota Timberwolves about training Luca for and no,
both teams refused. They moved on, and Luca is in
(41:59):
Los Angele. So let's just address that every so quickly.
Have you heard any of those allegations.
Speaker 6 (42:04):
Yeah, I think that there were definitely some initial gauges
on you know, what the marketplace would be. Now. It's
really interesting, though, is Rob Pa Lincoln on record the
Lakers Cheryl Mander had said that Nico Harrison him talked
and said that they swore themselves to secrecy on moving
forward and they want to talk to other teams. But
(42:25):
I think that this happened ahead of that coffee conversation.
But it wasn't like they were in negotiations. It was
pretty made clear that the Bucks weren't interested in trading
the anathonse to Tacumpo.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
End of discussion fair enough, Okay, so let's move on.
I don't want to say it's fair to overreact to
Thursday night's loss against Utah or was it Wednesday? And
I excuse me, the Lakers their second game with Luca
at all in company. But frankly, I think it exposed
some cracks in the armor. But moreover, we talked down
(43:00):
the phone the other day privately. You can address this
or not address this. I had heard that Luca is
really still sorting this out on his head and needed
a mental breaks from the All Star break, and allegedly,
I want to emphasize, allegedly was overheard saying all I
want the next few days is then I want to
get any FN calls from my coaches. Give me your privacy.
Can you speak to Luca's mental state, because I think
(43:22):
it's a story moving forward.
Speaker 6 (43:25):
Yeah, I think there's obviously a lot of fair questions
to ask about conditioning, and you know, frankly, perspective to
what extent does even matter. I'm of the belief that
he's twenty five years old, so it doesn't matter right now.
He led the match the finals last year, he's been
an MVP caliber player, but it doesn't mean that he
can't improve that now when to talk about the All
(43:45):
Star break, I just want to be clear here for
non participants, I think that's what every player is saying now.
In fairness to Luca, he is devoting part of his
All Star weekend also the training, so both things can
be the same. He's going to get a mental break,
he's going to take some time off, but then he's
also going to get back to the gym. But he
(44:06):
also wants to be left alone. But you know, frankly,
that's how all NBA players are true at all during
All Star weekend for that aren't participating. So I don't
see it as a major concern, you know, moving forward.
But obviously it's a result of oriented business. So if
his conditioning is an issue next season, yeah, let's have
(44:26):
a conversation. But I don't see this as a big
deal right now.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
So you're scoopid me, big fellows. So Luke's even taken
some time to train this weekend, what do you do, like,
did he join Launch Theory Fitness or something. Look, yeah,
he had a three year deals.
Speaker 6 (44:42):
He's doing that and doing some other gyms that they
want to get a plug, they can buy an ad
for your show.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
Yeah, I heard it from a not very good source
that he was in a shop he was advanced shopping
for a line cuisines. Is that true?
Speaker 4 (44:53):
That is.
Speaker 6 (44:55):
No, I mean we don't I don't know the exact
timeline on what you know, how many days he's going
to devote to or getting away and when he's starting.
But we have to keep in mind that the Lakers
don't play until next Wednesday, and so you know, I
think that their first practice will be Tuesday. So when
you look at the timeline, they've had off since Thursday
(45:15):
through Tuesday. Again, I think that both ideas can be true.
That you use the All Star break to get away,
take some time off, and then you start getting back
in the gym, because there's a significant amount of time.
I think given the context that you know, Luca had
gone through a pretty lengthy rehab the last two months.
(45:36):
He got two games in, but now his body's trying to,
you know, adjust to that workload. It's perfectly normal. So yeah, Bernie,
I don't see this going anywhere, but we'll see.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
What happens versus. So I can't not have this conversation
without just ever so quickly taking a look at the
other side of the trade. Anthony Davis comes out like
house of fire and the irony, it's just the irony
of it all. He gets hurt and I've heard he's
going to be out several weeks, like four or five weeks.
(46:10):
What are you hearing about Anthony Davis.
Speaker 6 (46:12):
Yeah, I want to be surprised if he's out for
another month because these abdominal injuries, they're pretty delicate. And
I think that the irony is as a keyword that
he hit on because we know Anthony Davis's injury history,
but this wasn't a Mark Williams like kind of trade
where the Lakers were hiding medicals and all of a
(46:33):
sudden came back to bite him. He got hurt in
his debut against Dallas in a freak play. We also know, yes,
ad has had an extensive injury history, but you and
I have discussed before. Ever since January of twenty twenty three,
he hasn't had major injuries. No one's ever going to
confuse Anthony Davis for ac Green, but he has been
(46:56):
you know, mostly available then, you know, having that nickname
that Charles Barkley gave them. As far as being street closed,
So what I'm getting at, Bernie is that it's obviously
bad misfortunes, especially in the context of the Mavericks trade
and all the criticism that came with it, and now
they don't have the main pillar of that trade available.
(47:18):
But these are really just kind of a rare confluence
of events. And Frank, we can happen to any player
at any given time.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
Talk with Mark and Dina, but Diina Magic every Saturday
night til midnight here on the Bernie Fratto Show. Let's
start current and I work backward. Draymond Green had some
very candid comments and you'd find it spot to lie.
And I really don't think the NBA game is boring
because the too many threes or players that run fast,
(47:48):
and there's no substance mark in America. We need to
know context. Okay, there is no more Laker Celtics, Piston Celtics,
Magic Bird, Isaiah Bird, Parish, Lambeard, Jordan Rules versus Detroit.
It's missing feed. I believe in the game and the
players who play the game are in large part vacuous. However,
(48:12):
I'd like you to address Draymond Green's comments. Here's the
guy playing in the back nine, so hell why not
trust the apartment on the way out.
Speaker 6 (48:21):
Yeah, I mean basically he says that he thinks the
NBA game is boring and it wrong. Well, there's a
lot of unpack here because I think that the NBA
game there's a lot more skill than the past. You know,
it's you could make the argument that shooting a basketball
requires more skill than just being a big guy that
(48:43):
can dunk, Like a lot of times you can dunk
because you're big and you're tall. Right, But I think
that again, two things can be true. There has the
current NBA game requires more skill, but some of the
competitive edge isn't there every single game. And I think
it's gotten saturated where everything just feels so transactional. There's
(49:06):
not as much of There might be the one on
one creativity, but there's not the creativity within a team
game and just seeing how you know, everyone's moving the
chess board. I think the game atmosphere also is different.
Everything in this world now feels transactional and there's not
(49:27):
as much of an excitement level over being part of
an event. And look, part of it is just the
times that we're in. People are on their phones, it's
in social media, people are consumed with having so many
options that it's inevitable that's going to be different than
a previous generation. But I think at the same time,
it can be avoidable if all parties, you know, players,
(49:51):
organizations and fans you know, really care more about the
game than the soap opera or the highlight reels. You know,
there's just seems to be even when I'm at games,
it's not the same kind of buzz. And you even
look at how game ops are. I mean, I'm in
so many arenas where it feels like the atmosphere is
(50:13):
loud because the music is loud and there's piped in,
you know, speakers that make it greater than what it is.
But when you actually look at the fan engagement, a
lot of them are on their phones or just.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
Kind of that's fair, that's fair, But it's also the
same in Major League Baseball, where attendance isn't an all
time high the NFL, the the the interest is in
an all time high. I gotta tell you, buddy.
Speaker 6 (50:38):
And I would say attendance for NBA games is pretty good.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
Too, Okay, but why the game no one's calling the
NFL or the NBA or even hockey boring. I gotta
throw a flag on one thing, because listen, there's nothing
with respect to your premise and what you just said.
I can't take homage with any of it, but I
would like to just offer an alternative viewpoint. To imply
(51:05):
that the nineties Bulls were not skillful, or that the
eighties Celtics and Lakers or even Pistons were not skillful.
Come on, I mean, look at the roster composition though,
and the savoir faire and the panache that those players had.
I've said it a thousand times on my show. We
don't have royalty in this country. Our athletes and our
(51:27):
entertainers are our royalty. You get me, Bird, Michale Parrish,
Dennis Johnson, charismatic eyes, going all the way back to
Doctor J Magic Bird, even Isaiah Bill Lamba. These guy's
were quotable, interesting people. Steve Kerr was a member of
that Bulls. I am a big fan of JJ Reddick,
(51:48):
but he can take his comments down river. He's out
of his mind. If the nineties game was bad, it
started to be a little bit of a two on
two ISO league. But then to imply that the skill
wasn't deres silly.
Speaker 6 (52:00):
When didn't I say the Lakers and the nineties Bulls
weren't skilled.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
All I said, well, you you didn't. I just said
I didn't take average. I just said I wanted to
give an alternative viewpoint, right, okay, point correct the record.
My point is those comments Present Company excluded imply that
the skill level is so much higher now that you
really can't compare the game to back. Then that's crap.
Speaker 6 (52:25):
No, I'm talking about I'm not talking about teams. I'm
talking about when you look at the way the game
is played, there is more skill involved. I mean, the
shooting is a lot better, right league wide. I'm not
talking about comparing dynasty teams. Those are dynasties for a reason.
I'm talking about when you're looking at the league, there
is more skill involved when it comes to shooting.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
Don't have to be could come to town and Alex
English could go ahead.
Speaker 6 (52:53):
All I'm saying is this, like, can you really debate
that it required it takes more skill to be an
elite shooter than it is to dunk a ball. Yes, yeah,
that's all. That's my point. Like to say that I'm implying, yeah,
that the nineties Bulls weren't great. I mean, where's this
coming from.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
It's coming from an overarching uh group think.
Speaker 7 (53:16):
But I didn't.
Speaker 6 (53:16):
I didn't imply that.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
But Mark, okay, let me let me, let me play
back to tape again. Present company excluded. I didn't take
umbrage with any of you said. I'm giving an alternative viewpoint.
We're trying to do is have an intellectual conversation they're
having to do with You got one of the major
stars of the game who's won championships, is going to
the Hall of Fame that says his own products boring.
Let's start there and go from there.
Speaker 6 (53:38):
Yeah, And what I was saying on why the games
feel boring is exactly what I said. It's the competitive
tense intensity isn't there as much, The feeling that every
game is important isn't there as much. The fan atmosphere
isn't the same kind of buzz. And I think the
thing that's tough about while we're talking about the state
(54:00):
of the game is that these things can be true
at once. I'm of the believer that the modern NBA
game there's more skilled than in the past. And again
I'm not comparing dynasties. I'm talking about the game itself.
But I will also say that the competitive intensity isn't
as high as it was in the past, and the
novelty of how exciting and important a game is is
(54:25):
not the same as it was from organizations, players and fans.
So there's a lot of gray area and some contradictory
elements that bleed into that. But two things can be
true at once.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
All right. Just for the record, I am not blaming
the three point shot as the reason why the NBA
game is boring. Can you imagine the NBA without a
three pointer? It'd be it would be boring, Okay, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (54:52):
And I think, however, the one thing we also should
keep in mind, you know, and I'm validating what you're saying,
is that you know, we're talking All Star weekend twenty
five years ago. It was you know, it was also
in Oakland, the Bay Area at that point. That was
the last year before rule changes were made. Where it
(55:14):
is the impetus was to speed up the game, have
it be less physical, And the reason why the rule
changes were made then was that the game was seen
as boring and it was seen as though it's just
post Michael Jordan era. There's not enough skill it's too
many players being overly physical but not enough. And that
(55:35):
was what I'm getting at is all these things are
cyclical here, and so I think the game from a
skill level is better. But the reason to the point
that you're asking, why does someone like Draymond think the
game is boring? And do I agree? Is what I
talked about before, the competitive intensity and the importance that organizations,
(55:57):
players and fans have given to each regular season game.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
Thought with Mark Medina Medina managing every Saturday night here
on the Bernie Fratto Show. By the way, I just
got a text from Smash Parker said, what do you mean?
I was skillful too. We do it all here on
the show.
Speaker 6 (56:14):
Mark all right, Bernie, Well tonight to show Saturday.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
Don't forget to try that semi bonus spaghetti. Here's a deal.
Even the commissioner dished on the state of the game tonight,
and he kind of deferred to he demurred. That's a
legal term. To Steve Kerr, who recently told Bob Costs
that he thought there was too much three point shooting
in the game, but he also thought the state of
the game was great. According to Steve Kerr, however, believe
(56:42):
there could be a fix that could improve the game,
but I don't really have one to suggest. There's a
competition committee that's devoted to this kind of stuff. Can
you take us behind the four walls and share what
the competition committee talks about.
Speaker 6 (56:56):
Yeah, they talk about the minutia and nuances and rule
chamin is. I mean literally every single year when they
have Board of Governors meetings, So you know, sometimes it's
not as noticeable because it's not a dramatic change, like
every year, there'll be points of emphasis on what you know,
officials should enforce. And I feel like every single time
(57:18):
every year there's an attention about okay, I have officials
and forced flopping, right, But the competition committee also oversees
rules that I was referencing that happened, you know, in
the early two thousands that you know, Jerry Colangel was
a part of where, you know, to to make the
game more entertaining, more fast paced. They eliminated the hand
(57:38):
checking rule, they allowed illegals, you know, they allowed zone defenses,
and that was under the context that post Michael Jordan era,
the NBA was just seen as a league without a
definitive superstar that was overly physical, and it was low
scoring and not entertaining to watch. So, you know, I
(58:00):
think what Adam Silver was referring to here is that
they discussed the stuff all the time, and so the
league can always be tweaked as far as how, you know,
how they enforce rules, what's more of a priority. You
know what's interesting last year is that, you know, post
All Star Break, they were indirectly telling officials to not
(58:27):
call as many fouls because they felt like the free
you know, the amount of time guys were at the
free throw line, it was bogging down the game. And
you saw post All Star Break there were not as
many high scoring games, but a lot of coaches across
the league thought the game was being played better because
the whistles were stopping. So it's a very common thing
(58:48):
that you know, coaches are part of the committee and
they talk every summer about what to do.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
Mark, I just got about twenty seconds, but your thoughts,
please know, Steph versus going to rematch? How disappointed were
the NBA with Caitlin Clark turned them down.
Speaker 6 (59:05):
Yeah, it was very disappointing. I mean every player, Steph, Sabrina, Caitlin,
they have every right to turn it down, but it
was such a successful event last year, and Caitlin Clark
looks she doesn't need the NBA. She is a global
superstar and I get her thought process. She wants to
have the first All Star appearance under the WNBA umbrella
(59:26):
when they're in Indianapolis. But no doubt the NBA is disappointed,
but they'll try to do it again next year.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
Mark great stuff is always already. Can't wait for next week, Pal,
So we'll talk soon and you enjoy the rest of
your NBA All Star weekend, well do.

You'll see this show posted right after we get off
the air. You know, in a world of problems, we've
got solutions. In a world of questions, we've got answers. Well, unless,
(01:01:13):
of course, it comes to Aaron Rodgers. Well dyline. February thirteen,
twenty twenty five, the New York Jets made it official.
They publicly confirmed on Thursday that Rogers would not be
brought back for the twenty twenty five NFL season. The
(01:01:35):
news was accompanied by all kinds of gibberish and statements
in pablom and second babble from various organizational leaders that
all made sure they took the time to very much
thank Aaron Rodgers for the last two seasons with their organization.
Quote I personally want to thank Aaron for his time
(01:01:57):
at the New York Jets end quote Jets owner Woody
Johnson said. Quote He's arrival in twenty twenty three was
met with unbridled excitement, and I will forever be grateful
that he chose to join us to continue his Hall
of Fame career. From day one, he embodied all that
it meant to be a New York Jet. He embraced
(01:02:20):
our fans, he immersed himself in our city. That is
what I will remember most when I look back at
his time here. He will always be welcome and I
wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to
do next. Translation, don't let the door hit you in
the ass on the way out. And oh, by the way,
(01:02:42):
next time you want to go to Egypt and we're
having each ota, don't This thing started slow and faded,
not kind of like Aaron Rodgers. And trust me, I
hope he's back somewhere in the NFL next year, and
I've got some thoughts on that coming up. I think
he's going to be okay, Wow, don't get you know,
too excited. Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network reported that
(01:03:05):
the Jets will probably not release Rogers until after June first.
That'll better manage their salary cap. Hick, But thanks for everything,
thanks for missing wide open receivers looking you know, that
same look on your face like you just smelled the
bad fart, dumb postgame conferences. Oh, by the way, the
thing I remember when he walked in day one. Oh
(01:03:26):
that's Super Bowl trophies looking kind of lonely. Yeah, it
still is. I loved it. I didn't want to see
in Rodgers. For the record, I was wrong. Now, no
one could have seen the Achilles situation coming. You know,
four plays into the twenty twenty three season. That just sucked.
That was just incredible bad luck. And there's a universe
(01:03:49):
somewhere that exists that had that never happened, things might
have been different. We'll never know. We'll never know. I
was wrong. I thought Rogers would come back this season,
and I thought they grew up the playoffs. I said that, why, well,
well they won seven games the year before. Was Zach
Wilson and al Woodhall? What the hell do you expect
(01:04:10):
they had the defense, all the pieces of place. We
were told. They told us all we needed was a quarterback.
But you got a Hall of Famer there. But now
Rogers flies into town on his old dime, which leads
me to believe he still very much wants to play football,
and you know, the Jets. I could be wrong. I
(01:04:32):
didn't know what flew in his own dime, but I'm guessing,
or maybe the Jets flument. What does it matter. I'm
sure they got some deal on Spirit Airlines to complete
the trifecta. They informed him face to face they plan
and move in a different direction. Okay, there is some
pablum out there that suggests that the Jets had presented
(01:04:54):
Rogers with some sort of an ultimatum if he did
want to return for twenty twenty five. I don't know
what that ultimatid is. Now we don't know what rogers
next move is because I don't know who's interested in him,
and I don't know who he's interested in, you know.
And then is he gonna want to bring DeVante Adams
and Don Maynard and George Sower and everybody with They
gave the guy everything he wanted. Now Rogers has yet
(01:05:14):
to confirm that he plans to play in twenty twenty five,
which means he definitely wants to play. Let me tell
you something. If he doesn't play next year, I don't
have a funny metaphor, So just move on. He gonna
play next year. He wants to play next year. And
by the way, a handful of teams are in market
for quarterbacks and bridge quarterbacks. At least one of those
organizations I think has already reached out to him. I
(01:05:35):
don't know. I don't know if they can. Maybe he's
under contract, but I don't really want them. He did
throw it for thirty nine hundred yards and twenty eight touchdowns.
His numbers did pick up towards the end of the season,
and that could provide some encouragement for some interested teams.
But hell, that in fifty cents will get you a
cup of coffee, Burger chef. Okay, this thing was an
abject failure, and you know it was all right, and
(01:05:59):
I guess you know. Look, according to Diana Roussini, it's
not so much. The Jets were one hundred percent opposed
to bringing Rogers back for another season. Remember, you got
a new coach on Aaron Glenn, who's an no O
BS guy. But apparently there were some conditions that Rogers
would have to meet. One stipulation that Rogers would have
(01:06:19):
to stop making regular appearances on the Pat McAfee show.
Seems reasonable to me, right. The Jets also reportedly told
me he could not skip off season workouts, and I think
that was probably a red herring, knowing that Rogers would
not give up his Pat McAfee show and then he
would skip off season workouts because he thinks he's old
(01:06:41):
that time. I think. So, you know, apparently they you know,
the conversations they had with if you're going to be
a part of this team, you're gonna attend all the
training camp, You're not gonna do Pat McAfee anymore, and
if you're to stay here. So to me, this is
Aaron Glenn setting a new setting a tone. This is
Aaron Glenn re established in the culture. Yeah. And I
(01:07:03):
don't know, by the way, maybe maybe Rogers thought about
it and didn't want to go back there anyway, But
I don't know. The reason I think he may not
really care if he wants to go back there is
he has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract with
the Jets. But if they cut the Jets, if they
cut Rogers again, I look at what he Johnson's comments
(01:07:26):
and my teeth diitch, because the Jets are about to
take a forty nine million dollar dead cap hit. The
only reason they'll cut him after June first is they
can spread that money out over two years. Now, Rogers
would still be able to sign with the new team
and free agency begins in March if they were to
go that route, which I kind of expect to happen. Okay,
I just think that this isn't done. This isn't done.
(01:07:50):
So the question that begs the question, where can Aaron
Rodgers move on to?
Speaker 5 (01:07:55):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
Colin Coward gave a pretty lengthy soliloquy about Aaron Rodgers
any with the Rams. I'm not saying he's predicting that,
not that Colin's predicting that, but he laid out a
really interesting case for Aaron to go to the Rams.
Would I like to see that? Absolutely? Will that happen? No?
Not no, hell no, ain't no way, not up in here. No,
(01:08:18):
it ain't gonna happen. Sean McVay isn't going to play
that crap, that's circus. No, that's not how Sean McKay
McVeigh rolls. And later in the show, I'll tell you
who I think Sean McVay has his eye on and
why I think Matt Stafford could end up next year
there were him and Kelly Stafford. I think are weren't
out there welcome in LA Now, none of this has
happened yet. We could look up in September and Stafford
(01:08:39):
could be quarterback of the Rams on opening day. All
that could happen. But Sean McVay, no grass grows under
his feet. Now. I'll give a little commentary about that
coming up later in the show, and when you listen
to it, I think you'll agree with me. But the
point is is that, And to be fair, I didn't
say Colin was predicting it, but I don't agree with
(01:08:59):
the premise at all. If you know Sean McVay like
he knows Sean McVay, Sean McVay is not. He's no.
The Rams are pretty good team, man. They gave the
Eagles a nice little tussle, a nice little tussle before
going down, and they fill in a couple spots here
and there, and I've always said, look, Stafford got a
Super Bowl. I know somebody will tweet at me, ha,
(01:09:20):
big deal, paging Jekwowski, tard paging Aaron Donald. He got it, though,
I'll give it to you. Stafford's not a guy you're
gonna win because if he's a guy who might win
with trust me. I had my fill of him in Detroit.
I got Stafford fatigue, as if you didn't know. But
where the hell could Aaron Rodgers go? If I had
(01:09:41):
a magic wand put him on the Raiders, come on,
come on, let's go move it. Why the Raiders need anyone, someone,
somebody under center. And they got a ton of cap
space to put a ton of potential upgrades surrounding him.
They brought in Pete Carroll to win immediately. Now that
(01:10:02):
may be a bit of a stretch, and people in
hell on ice water now, and look, cam Newton got
to Carolina and turned around at one and fifteen team
in one year. It can happen. Okay, it can happen
if you bring in Rogers, who's sheer volume of experience,
(01:10:23):
and team him up with Tom Brady and Chip Kelly
and Pete Carroll in a short term deal, all right,
a bridge deal while they figure out what they're gonna
do next to quarterback. I don't know, Man, tell me
that might not be at least fun to watch. Of course,
there's always big bucks pue even if a trade checked that,
(01:10:44):
even if we're required a trade up. Well, the Raiders
are pretty well positioned to address quarterback in the draft
because they got the number row over six pick, and well,
they've got money to spend. You got to get a
guy who can get the ball to brock Bauers. I mean,
this is a guy who just lit the league up.
Excuse me and his rookie year. So let's get going.
(01:11:07):
Let's pick it up, let's get to stepping. I would
like to see. I would like to see Aaron Rodgers
go to the Las Vegas Raiders now, assuming he returns
for his twenty first season. And I know it's debatable
because there are some who question how much he has
(01:11:28):
left in the tank at forty one, after a couple
of underwhelming seasons in New York and his final year
in Green Bay was not great. In twenty twenty two,
one team that was mentioned in you know whispers were
they Indianapolis Colts now that's not to imply the Colts
are ready to give up on Anthony Richardson. I'm ready
to give up on Andy Richardson, but that doesn't mean
(01:11:50):
the Colts are. They could rent Rogers for one year.
Richardson is still twenty two. You put him behind a
proven veteran. The Colts have a solid offensive line. Perhaps
Rodgers could get them back in the playoff conversation in
a very iffy division. And oh, by the way, Pat
mcafused to play for the Colts see see it's already
(01:12:12):
coming together cons well. Richardson might not be reliable at
this stage of his career, but adding Rodgers is merely
going to delay for Richard's development. Would it really improve
the Colts as a whole team hasn't made the playoffs
in five years? And even if Rogers was decent, who
knows if he stays healthy. Coming up, I will continue
on my Aaron Rodgers rant. And oh, by the way,
(01:12:35):
one of Dion's sons was not invited to the combine.
That didn't sit well with Dion. We'll chop that up
coming back as well. I'm Bernie Frattle were comedy Lion
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tirat dot com studios.
Keep it lockedly listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, back on the Bernie Frawdles Show,
(01:12:56):
Fox Sports Radio, comedy liar for the tyrack dot Com Studios.
Here in Las Vegas, we continue on with the Aaron
Rodgers saga Sinara from New York. We think he'll play
somewhere next year. I'm sure he wants to, and I'll
think he'll find a suitor. I do not believe it'll
be the Rams. I hope it's the Raiders. The Colts
(01:13:17):
have been mentioned, and so have four of their teams,
not in any particular order. The Minnesota Vikings were actually mentioned.
They seem prepared to at least allow Sam Donald to
test the market. He did have a bit of a
bummer in his final two games. And if it ain't
Sam McDonald, they can sure use a battle tested arm
(01:13:39):
because again they think the world of JJ McCarthy, but
he's coming back from multiple knee surgeries. It would be
wouldn't it be coincidental? It wouldn't be ironic, could be coincidental?
Farv went to the Jets, then went to the Vikings.
Rogers goes from the Drinking Bay Packers to the Jets
and now maybe the Vikings. Could it be Ladie Ponder passing?
(01:14:01):
Minnesota's got a ready made supporting cast, and you gotta
believe Rogers might like getting in the ring with his
old pals, the Green Bay Packers. However, do I think
that's gonna happen, though? I think the Vikings are crazy
if they don't at least franchise tag Sam Donald. And
I'll get to him a little bit later. What the
options are with Donald? Okay, erase what you saw in
(01:14:23):
the last two games, all right, it's all part of
his development. JJ McCarthy is completely untested, although I think
he's gonna be pretty good completely untested. I think Kevin
O'Connell's way too smart not to know that he could
even build upon what he got with their Sam Donald,
at least for next season. I get it they really
(01:14:43):
like the Vikings, really like JJ McCarthy. But even if
he's not one hundred percent for week one, then you
can maybe if you can't, for whatever reason you don't
come to terms with Donald or whatever, Rogers all of
a sudden makes the Vikings. You go back to two
thousand and nine and Brett Favre. It's exactly what it is,
and they did pretty good. It'd be pretty good. It
(01:15:06):
would be very interesting the Aaron Rodgers. So maybe coming
to a town not called Minnesota or Minnesota, I don't know,
the New York Giants, and there's an organization that badly
needs somebody at quarterback, somebody, anybody. I love Tommy DeVito, man,
I'm just maybe because he's Italian and I'm Italian. They're
(01:15:29):
better off with Danny DeVito. I'd keep Tommy DeVito on
the roster, but hein't gonna get you the playoffs. All right,
Rogers doesn't have to move and stay right there to
the New York market, stay played right at the same stadium.
He can stay put. The Giants need something. The Giants, though,
are not ready to contend. They've been in perpetual rebuild
(01:15:50):
modes since Lincoln was president. The defense scrappy in some games,
other games not so much. They need to rebuild their
long term infrastructure actually had on offense, and that comes
through the draft. Look at what I told you how
Holly Roseman did it. He didn't do it by you know,
taking Hall of Fame quarterbacks with bat Achilles off the
(01:16:11):
shelf that are almost sixty eight years old. He gonna
I don't see him going to the Giants. Okay, the
Giants pick number three overall, they're gonna draft quarterback. I
don't know, man, in this quarterback class, I wouldn't be
too excited. Now. On one team that was mentioned that
caught my eye again, I put this sort of in
the Raiders category, meaning that I'd like to see this,
(01:16:34):
and I'm talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin.
Huh huh. Well, he had a once elite veteran in
twenty twenty four by the name of Russell Wilson, who
I refuse to take a dump on his face like
everybody else can't wait to do. I like Russell Wilson.
He's a pretty quarterback conversation for a different day. And
(01:16:58):
Rogers actually beat Tomlin on the biggest stage or four years ago,
and they kind of winked at each other across the field.
There was always that notion those two might connect someday.
Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tomlin, I think there's mutual respect,
but they always deny it, and so it's not really
a fit from the standpoint if it doesn't really fit
fit Pittsburgh's culture to bring in a guy like, you know,
(01:17:22):
like like an Aaron Rodgers. But you know, Pittsburgh seems
perpetually in the wild card round even though they haven't
been good. They need help in the trenches, they need
wide receivers. A short term, you know stint with Aaron
Rodgers possibly makes sense. Okay, but they're gonna say, well,
didn't work with Russell Wilson. I get their different players,
(01:17:43):
but the Steelers are not just only a quarterback away. Plus,
the Steelers are an old school franchise that is a
very stable culture. Three coaches since nineteen seventy. Rogers really
looked his age last year with the Jets rather than
a resort to another guy who's even older than Ben Rothberger.
Why would Pittsburgh do that? Finally, the Tennessee Titans now
(01:18:04):
coach Brian Canahan, try that again. Callahan apparently he's had
enough of Will Levis. Okay, Will Levis Is, I've had
enough of Will Levis and I have no skin in
the game. So Rogers could again be a proven quarterback
for an offense that a's in veterans like Tony Pollard
and Calvin Ridley. The division again, that's a wide open division.
(01:18:27):
And can you you know a guy like Rogers if
he came in and somehow got the fountain of youth
for one year, could the Tennessee Titans get into the postseason.
It's not all the rum of possibility. By the way,
guess who owns the number one pick in the draft Tennessee.
Now I think they're crazy if they draft Camy Ward
in number one. They're not going to draft shirdor Sanders.
(01:18:49):
But how about go get a guy like Travis Hunter
or trade down to get a bunch of picks and
you bring in one time, you rent Rogers for one year,
they got a brand new general manager. And uh, I
don't think anybody would complain if Tennessee came out of
the gate and won their first year, and if they
did it with a bit of a mcgazy like Aaron Rodgers.
But look, at the end of the day, I want
(01:19:11):
to see Rogers return for his twenty first season. It
ain't gonna be with the Jets. The Giants would be crazy,
Indianapolis probably not so much. The Raiders would be my
number one choice by far. It just fits that it
checks every box and you know it. Pete Carey, you
know it. Viking's probably not gonna happen. The Steelers somewhat intriguing,
but when the rubber hits the road, I don't think
(01:19:33):
it fits the cut of their jib very much. But nonetheless,
Aaron Rodgers will continue to be I promise you a story.
What are some of the rest of the stories in
the NFL offseason? Questions we need answered? We're gonna tackle him,
keep it locked. Were listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
That's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fridle Show keeps
rolling right along. My name is Bernie Froddle. We're County
Line from the tyreck dot Com studios here in Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio. Tyrec dot com will help you get
there at unmatched selection, fast free shipping for you, roodazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyret dot com the
(01:20:16):
way tired buying should be. Well, I'm not mixed up.
There's a cornacopia of sports. We covered a lot of
it with Mark Medina and the NBA. We covered some
great stuff with Doug Anderson, Major League Baseball, a little
fun with Juan Soto. We'll be getting into that more.
Luca Anthony Davis coming up in an hour. Jeff Donsill
(01:20:39):
will join us from Boston. Believe it or not. We
got some Belichick stuff. And how about that big deal
they just pulled off with with Bragman. We talked about
Sam Donald. Check that we're gonna talk about Sam Donald.
We talked about Aaron Rodgers. We'll get to Matt Stafford.
But as I said, you know, the NFL's king the
off seasons here. It's twenty four seven, three sixty five.
I'm not dissing any of the other sports, but the
(01:20:59):
NFL continues to be the most interesting as it comes
to sports conversations. Right, What are the questions that are
on people's minds as we sit here on Sunday, February sixteenth,
NBA All Star weekend. Forget about that? So did I?
Which team or slash possible contender? Will and Miles Garrett?
(01:21:26):
He wants out of Cleveland, all right now? Joe Thomas,
the last Hall of Famer that I think the Browns had,
you know, he he wants out of Cleveland. Miles Garrett
wants out. He made multiple media appearances during Super Bowl
Week and he emphasized his trade demand. He not only
(01:21:48):
wants to leave Cleveland, he wants to go to a contender.
But Cleveland had something to say about that. He said,
we are not moving him, but stay tuned. Okay, he's
at like a one of those Salvos you fired to
perhaps set the stage for a deal negotiation. I don't know.
(01:22:10):
The one thing is you can say Miles Garrett is
probably in his prime. This past season. He led the
league in quarterback pressures, he led the league in pass
rush win rate. And can you just think about this now, Mike,
Miles Garrett have been a difference maker for say, the
Buffalo Bills. I don't know. I don't know. Mighty have
(01:22:36):
been a difference maker for the Washington Commanders. Probably not,
but be a nice addition for my money. I'm guessing
that's where he might have his best opportunity. Or how
about the Los Angeles Rams, who don't play around? Or
how about the other team in Los Angeles with Jim Harbaugh.
(01:22:56):
There's four teams right there that if you were to
put Miles Garrett on any one of those teams, and
all of a sudden causes you to look at those
on field, you know, personnel groupings a little differently. The
truth of the matter is, after watching what Philadelphia did
(01:23:17):
to Kansas City and the kryptonite for Patrick Mahomes is
a strong defensive line. It's been done twice now, Tampa
Bay five years ago and Philadelphia a week ago. Maybe
the Bills should be picking up the phone as we speak.
Remember the Bills just they were trade dance partners with
(01:23:39):
the Browns a year ago to get Amari Cooper. So
maybe they pick up the phone and do it again
with Miles Garrett. The second question, will the Rams really
move on from Cooper Cup and will Matthew Stafford really
go to You know, the reason you heard me pause is,
if we're being honest, if you watch the games, are
(01:24:00):
really the only team that tested the Eagles in the playoffs.
They really handled the Packers, They certainly handled the Washington Commanders,
and they certainly handled the Chiefs. But the Rams tested them.
You could argue, and I believe Pooka Naku has said
it with Doug Gottlie, we're one play away. They were
thirteen yards short of potentially beating the eventual Super Bowl
(01:24:23):
champion Philadelphia Eagles. The irony is instead of running it
back with their Sam roster. Look, we've talked about this
with Sean McVeigh before. The dude does not let grass
grow under his feet. The answer is yes, the Rams
are actively looking to trade Cooper Cup. He turns thirty
(01:24:44):
two in June. Has he lost a yard office fastball? Maybe,
but he's a former Super Bowl MVP. Unfortunately, it appears
that his injuries might have caught up with him. And
it's everybody loves Cooper Cup. How do you not love
Cooper Cup? All Right? I don't know if he's worth
(01:25:05):
his twenty nine point seven million dollar cap hit. Okay,
he could be moved before March nineteenth, and they don't
have to pay him an eight million dollar roster bonus,
I believe. As for Stafford, the front office has refused
to commit to him publicly, as they started in twenty
twenty five. But at thirty seven, people still rave about Stafford.
(01:25:25):
I know he'll make the occasional brilliant throw. I've never
questioned Stafford's toughness, his competitive nature, his resiliency, his will
to win. I just stafford fatigue from Detroit. Now, if
he's that good, why would the Rams. I'm telling you
this could happen. I'm not predicting, and you're to what
(01:25:46):
Colin had say. So what are the odds? Here's another question,
what are the odds both Stafford and Cooper Cup end
up in New York? And I'm not talking about the Jets.
There was a buzz last week Adam Schefter reported that
the New York Giants hired Matt Stafford's brother in law
as their assistant quarterbacks coach. Now, the question is, if
(01:26:09):
you get Sean McVeigh in a room and you ask
him the question, would you see a universe in which
Matt Stafford is not your quarterback next year? I'm going
to address that coming up, but it's all speculation. The
forty nine Ers went completely off a cliff this past
year in the last half of the season, and so
(01:26:30):
this is a team that's been a fixed year in
the playoffs, multiple super Bowls. They just can't quite get
over the hump. They still have the sixth best odds
per bet MGM to get to the super Bowl in
twenty twenty six. But this is going to be incredibly
crucial offseason. I did not have the Niners going six
(01:26:50):
and eleven this past year, and you can blame some
of it on injuries. I guess the only year that
Aaron Rodgers won a Super Bowl, they had fourteen guys
on injured reserve that year. But I digress. There's injuries.
It's called the natural Football League. Robert Salah returns. Can
he create his magic in twenty nineteen? Can Christian mccafy
(01:27:15):
caffrey stay healthy? And I mean stay healthy? What do
they do with Rock Purty? What do they pay him?
What does he want? What will he accept? Do they
dare reset the quarterback market with his impending contract. If
you're looking for clues as to where the Niners are
(01:27:37):
headed in terms of personnel, Deebo Samuel said, I want out.
They said, okay, you've got permission, go find yourself a
trade partner. Now we've already addressed the Aaron Rodgers situation. Okay,
we already know the Jets are moving on from their
forty one year old quarterback, and they have as many
as twenty potential replacements allegedly. I think they'll end up
(01:27:59):
with Torod Taylor. To Rob Taylor is a good quarterback,
I get it. He's not the guy that can you
can hand the keys of the car and he's gonna
win you a Super Bowl. But he's a good quarterback.
And I think the Jets just need to get back
to running the ball, playing defense, ball, control field position,
and win games the way that they're really built to
win games, and get rid of this dash and flash
and crazy Hollywood script that Aaron Rodgers never seemed to
(01:28:22):
live up to. Okay, and from what I hear, Tarrod
Taylor is very popular among the Jets wide receivers, especially
garn Wilson, who I think is a star. By the way,
feel free to move on from DeVante Adams. Okay, what
did he grab? What did he do for you in
New York? You already know the answer, all right, Rogers,
(01:28:48):
We've already talked about it. He's going to He's gonna
end up somewhere. No one really knows where. But so what,
I want to go back to the sa Donald dilemma
that the Vikings face. Okay, because they had a Cinderella
season this past year, but it got flipped on its
head as soon as it got to January. They had
(01:29:11):
a very embarrassing loss to the Lions in Week eighteen,
final game of the year, and that would have secured
them the top seed and a home playoff game, actually
in all home playoff games. Then they proved that loss
was no fluke. A week later, they went to Los
Angeles on a Monday night game in the wild card
and the Rams rode them like a stick horse. They
(01:29:33):
scored just nine points the Vikings did in their last
two weeks. Unfortunately, that put the spotlight on the performance
of Sam Donald, who signed a one year, ten million
dollars deal with the Vikings last March, and it put
his future in somewhat in question. Over those two games,
Donald was forty three of eighty one through just one touchdown,
with sacked eleven times. It looked like up until those
(01:29:57):
two final games, Darnald sheesh, he might have been their
long term solution. I get that they drafted JJ McCarthy
with the number ten pick earlier, but he toreus meniscus,
he got hurt, got multiple Darnald had a career year
top five in the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns.
(01:30:19):
And by the way, Kevin O'Connell, who's a very smart guy, said,
before we make any major decisions, we have to really
consider Sam's entire body of work when we're going to
decide on his future. That is smart. So what are
their options? It's very simple. Here's what the Vikings options are.
And you do have JJ McCarthy waiting in the wings.
(01:30:43):
I like him, he's got potential. I believe in him.
He's completely unproven. Be careful. Here's the Vikings options. One,
do you do a long term deal. The dude's only
twenty seven years old. Is the mid range quarterback following
this year, which means, hey, you could lock them up
(01:31:04):
for four years, four years, one hundred and sixty million.
The Vikings could then trade JJ McCarthy, who could potentially
command a first round return in this open market, in
this crappy draft quarterback class, it's not good. I would
consider that. I'm not joking, not saying I'd do it.
I'd also consider this option too, franchise tag him. Minnesota
(01:31:30):
could test the waters by franchise tagging Sam Donald, which
means a one year, guaranteed deal of about forty one
million dollars. That would be more than twice as much
as Darnluck's made in any single season in the National
Football League. But look at what his production was last year.
And I you know, as I told you a Major
(01:31:52):
League Baseball GM told me many years ago, when you
look to move on to a guy, move on from
a guy, you say to yourself, well, I'm not sure
I want them anymore, But do I want to still
have to play against him? Sam Donald in the right offense,
proved what he could do over the course of the season,
albeit the last two games, okay under Kevin O'Connell. I
(01:32:14):
believe he's got a lot left in the tank. And
again you can you can speculate as to you know,
the state of limbo right now, if they're in, if
they you know, don't sign him because you got JJ McCarthy,
which leaves the option number three. You could simply let
them walk. You can give them a long term deal,
which I think the most you could you'd the most
(01:32:37):
you'd consider offering Donald right now is the mid range
four year, one sixty or you're franchise tagging for one
year at forty one. I think that's the safe route.
I do you're hedging your bets, or you let them go.
You hand the keys to JJ McCarthy. Do you know
for sure that McCarthy is ready to take the keys
of the car tad and play one one half of
(01:33:00):
a preseason game. He looked pretty good against guys who'll
be working at NAPA Auto Parts next month. The question
is Ken McCarthy a takeover after coming off a serious
knee injury. The team has plenty of ancillary pieces to
surround him. That's not the issue, by the way. Interestingly enough,
Justin Jefferson, who I think no one can argue is
(01:33:22):
the team's biggest star. Last year signed the largest quarterback
of any wide receiver in NFL history four years, one
hundred and forty million. He's kind of kept a neutral
opinion on the team's future quarterback. I find this cryptic.
It's not my job to say who's going to be
the quarterback or who do I want to be the quarterback? Yeah,
(01:33:45):
I don't know. I don't blame him for not speaking.
You gotta see these guys all year. I don't blame
him for not speaking. Unfortunately, though, it's not a very
ringing endorsement of Sam Darnold. So let's go back to
now Matt Stafford, and in a minute, I'll get to
(01:34:06):
whether or not I think Sean McVay would even entertain
this Matt Stafford, it's not all the realm of possibility.
He could be on the move. Okay, he technically has
two years remaining on his current contract, but it's essentially
set up. He's kind of going year to year with
the Rams and he's refusing to restructure it. That opens
the door for a decision to be made by by
(01:34:28):
both sides here coming up in the next month or two.
Stafford is due basically four million dollars in guaranteed money
in twenty twenty five, and there are no guarantees for
his deal in twenty twenty six. That needs to be adjusted.
But it remains to be seen which team would actually
be willing to sit down with Matt Stafford and sweeten
(01:34:51):
the pot. The Rams are kind of at an inflection
point here. He's thirty seven years old. Sean McVay. I'm
going to approve tea in a minute coming up, he
doesn't let grass grow into his feet. If you think
he's afraid to set the reset button, which would include
not only moving off of Stafford and also Cooper cup,
(01:35:13):
don't think he didn't have the colonies to do something
like that. So if Los Angeles, if the Rams ultimately
decided to put Stafford on the trade block. Let's do
what we did with Aaron Rodgers. Who are some potential destinations.
Could the Pittsburgh Steelers be in the mix? Do they
want to get their next version of Ben Roethlisberger at
(01:35:34):
thirty seven years old? Maybe if Pittsburgh said, we'll give
you a first round pick Steelers draft twenty first this year,
a second round pick they draft fifty second, a conditional
second round pick. Hmm, Okay, maybe you got Sean mcvayzier Stafford,
(01:35:55):
he'd go to Pittsburgh and maybe the Rams give them
their first round pick. Also, the Rams don't get two
first round picks in the first round this year. Bit
of a convoluted deal, right, several picks exchanging hands. But
the truth of the matter is there have been player
there have been deals that have been done like this
in the past. Okay, not too ultimately dissimilar to what
(01:36:17):
Green Bay and the Jets did with Rogers in twenty
twenty three. And I know what you're thinking, how did
that work out? Not so well? Okay. The truth of
the matter is, if we're being honest, Matthew Stafford's numbers
weren't much better than Aaron Rodgers this year. He threw
for six less touchdowns. He threw for about the same yards,
(01:36:42):
but they got a better culture in LA. The Rams
would have to get you know, a handful of spots
to do this deal, but it's not on the Roman possibility. Okay,
could Matt Stafford end up with the Minnesota Vikings and
he's starting to see the same usual suspects. The Rams
could potentially get the first round pick, the number twenty
four pick overall, which means the Rams would have two
(01:37:03):
first round picks and the Vikings could get Stafford. That's
kind of a tit for tat deal. Straightforward, Stafford goes
to the Vikings. This center's around whether or not the
wild card here is, of course, Sam Darnold. What do
they want to do? We know he faltered down the stretch.
How much confidence do you have in JJ McCarthy. Finally
you look at the New York Giants again. Oh my god,
(01:37:24):
here we go again. Well, the Giants, the Rams could
only get a second round pick, number thirty four overall
and a second round pick in a future that get
Matt Stafford, And I would say this market isn't a
robust for Stafford, and I don't know if a first
round pick is going to be available for the Rams.
But again I'm back to the family connection. They Giants
(01:37:46):
hired somebody named Chadthall, who's Stafford's brother in law. And
if you got two second round picks, that'd be a
nice return for the Rams. And the question in begins,
who gives Sean McVay the best ants to win? Okay,
by the way, there are other rumors. I'm telling you
(01:38:08):
Sean mcvayh does not led grass grow under his feet.
He's not one to sit still. I'll tell you the
most delicious rumor we heard this week about if Stafford
goes and who would come back in his return. By

after we get off the air. All right, we've talked
about Rogers, We've talked about Donoald, we've talked about Stafford. Well,
let's talk about Sean McVay because there are rumors out
(01:39:52):
there from very credible people that Sean McVay may may
be tigeting a certain quarterback, and perhaps these rumors also
suggest the Giants have more interested in Matthew Stafford than
I have previously indicated, or not that I haven't indicated
(01:40:15):
that could possibly get together, but the implication is it
may be more serious that I implied. So look, we
all know this about Sean McVay. The dude is a
mover and a shaker. He's brilliant. He's one of the
top five coaches in the NFL. He's never wanted to
let grass grow under his feet. He doesn't sit still.
(01:40:35):
Sean McVay has been with the Rams since twenty seventeen.
From the minute he set foot in that office, he
turned a more abund franchise into a Super Bowl contender.
They were stagnant. Sean McVay did things differently in the
way he approached the preseason, preseason games, his offense completely
(01:40:57):
turning the playbook upside down. He brought an energy that
you know, rejuvenated the locker room. And he was ruthless
when it came to building his roster. He would trade picks,
you know, picks her capital but nothing yet. He wanted
stars and got him. Sean McVay wasted no time. He
(01:41:19):
pushed the salary limit to the brink, and that's become
his trademark. Sean McVay helped even though he didn't draft him.
He helped turned Jared Goff into a Super Bowl quarterback,
then shortly thereafter kicked him to the curb. He did
in a nice way because I think Sean McVay is
(01:41:42):
a class act, but made no mistake he kicked him
to the curb. Matt Stafford was who he had his
eye on, and Matt Stafford joined the Rams and with
the help of Jekwaski, Tart and Aaron Donald and company
had about forty two doll of famers on that team.
Matt Stafford was under and the Rams delivered the ultimate championship.
(01:42:04):
But in the NFL, you know what they say, not
for long? What have you done for me? Lately? Success
is fleeting, and now Sean McVay finds himself not too
dissimilar to Jared Goff four years ago. There's another inflection point.
I think Matt Stafford's future as a as a top
(01:42:25):
flight quarterback of the National Football League is in limbo
in my opinion, and the Giants appeared to me to
make it, making a serious push to bring him to
New York from I can't take credit for that reportage.
I'm repeating what I've heard. So the Rams faced sort
of a two fold decision and something that completely reshape
(01:42:46):
and redefine their future, particularly their immediate future. Do you
keep Stafford? Yes or no? And if you don't, who
do you get? By the way, there was a recent
fan poll should the Rams trade Matthew Stafford for a
younger quarterback like Sam Donald? That was part of the question.
(01:43:11):
Forty five percent of the responded says yes, it's time
for a change, but it depends on the trade deal.
Three percent said not sure, So half of them didn't
say no, but the other half did say no that no,
Stafford is still valuable. But enter Sam Donald, who also
(01:43:32):
finds his career in his NFL opportunities potentially at an
inflection point, a fork in the road. Wasn't that long ago?
Coming out of USC Sam Donald was supposed to be
the Jets franchise savior. Unfortunately became the poster child for
(01:43:53):
somebody who had potential but never could quite get over
the hump. So he has been road hard and put
away sweaty in New York and Carolina. They kicked him
to the curb. He ended up taking a quick tour
through San Francisco, remember as a backup now after a
(01:44:18):
tremendous season in Minnesota, who would have thunk it until
the last two weeks of the season. Ironically or coincidentally, however,
you want to put it against Sean mcvay's Los Angeles Rams,
there's a situation where I am hearing this rumor. Again,
(01:44:40):
not taking any credit for this repartage, I'm just repeating
what I heard. It's a conversation point. Sean McVay, who's
already proven he has an incredible knack for reviving quarterbacks,
might find just such an opportunity moving off the thirty
seve even year old Matt Stafford and moving on to
(01:45:02):
the twenty seven year old Sam Donald. Sam Donald would
also have the chance to prove he's more than just
a journeyman. But make no mistake, the Rams have a
quarterback question. I believe they have to figure this out
and what I think will make the decision if the
Rams were to get Donal is he just a temporary
(01:45:25):
bridge quarterback? Is he a temporary band aid solution or
does McVeigh somehow see something the rest of the league missed.
But I thought we already saw that last year in Minnesota. Okay. However,
the flip side of the coin, the Rams lost their
final game this last season, just three weeks ago to
(01:45:48):
the Eagles in the Divisional round. Matt Stafford said he
was not clear on his future, said he will need
time to make a decision. Do I believe he's coming back.
Of course he's gonna come back. He wants to come back.
I hate when they do that. And by the way,
I got some moles telling me Travis Kelsey's coming back
next year too. He's coming back, okay. Stafford said he's
(01:46:11):
not clear. In a recent interview, he said, quote, I
just want to keep playing good football. I love competing obviously,
getting a chance to make runs in the playoffs, Competing
for Lombardi Trophies is what it's all about. Once you
get a taste of one, you want more of them.
I love playing this game. True. While Stafford considers what
he wants, what does Sean McVay want or do the
(01:46:32):
Rams want something to watch? Is it possible could the
Rams be greasing his kids to welcome a potential Sam
Darnell into the fold. It's possible. It's not a zero
because this I do think I know the Rams are
(01:46:52):
already busy preparing to find Stafford's ultimate replacement. Whether it's
this year or in the future, you can see the
end of the tunnel with Matt Stafford and Sam Donald
has merely emerged as a possible candidate, and outside of
the last two games for the Vikings, Donald proved he
can lead a team. He's a free agent, he's twenty
(01:47:13):
years old, he's coming off his first career Pro Bowl.
Sean McVay has realized, may have realized that here's a
guy that can serve his team, get to his ceiling,
realize his potential and join a pretty damn good supporting
cast with an above average defense that according to Puka
and a Coup and he's right in theory, they were
(01:47:35):
one play away from beating the Philadelphia Eagles. The Commandos
can't say that, the Packers can't say that, the Chiefs
can't say that. So you know, I know the Rams
started one on four, but look how they finished. I
think they were a solid franchise with a solid culture,
coached by a top five coach. So the next sixty
(01:47:57):
four dollars question, can you trade Matt Staffer Efford for
a first round pick and then just signed Sam Donald
for the forty one million that basically Stafford's get. And actually,
you might theoretically be in a better police place if
you're the Rams, if you are taking into consideration, this,
in theory could be your solution for the next five years.
(01:48:18):
Stafford is not your solution for the next five years.
And because you potentially could get some draft capital in
addition to a quarterback who may be entering a prime
on a similar deal. On paper, this sounds pretty good
for the Rams, or at the very least sounds very
intriguing for the Rams. The thing is, there's a fair
(01:48:41):
chasm between here and there. Nothing's set in stone. The Vikings,
I believe, will make some effort to keep Stam Donald.
My guess is they'll offer him a franchise, a franchise tague. Okay,
I don't think they'll give them the four year, one
to sixty deal. I don't think they just let them
walk because their available options are basically, well, we want
(01:49:05):
to avoid what they did with Kirk Cousins. The Vikings
and Cousins couldn't agree on a new contract and they
parted ways. They drafted JJ McCarthy in the first round. Also,
remember Daniel Jones as they're back up there. But the
truth of the matter is, Sam Donald, if you had
if you had to win a football game today and
(01:49:25):
you're in the Minnesota Vikings, you're not starting JJ McCarthy,
you'd start, You'd start Donald. But that still has to
play out. An organization called over the Cap projects the
Rams will have a thirty eight million dollars you know,
cap hit before making any further roster moves this season. Donald,
(01:49:46):
who earned sixty three million in his career, has a
projected annual value of thirty eight point two man. Now,
many people who are in the know expect Donald to
return to Minnesota. I told you Stafford threw for thirty
seven hundred yards. Donald threw for almost forty four hundred,
thirty five touchdown passes. I think it would be a
huge decision to see if the Vikings just let him go.
(01:50:08):
But stranger things have happened. They do have JJ mccarthurre
and their rookie deal. But let's go back to Sean McVay,
and if the Rams come up with a better offer, well,
the Vikings are going to be very tempted, very tempted.
As far as Sean McVay goes, I'm told that he's
a fan of Sam Donald. Before the wild Card game,
(01:50:29):
in which the Rams just rode the Vikings like a
stick horse, McVay was all praising Sam Donald for the
job he'd done. He said, quote, I think Sam has
done a great job. He's always had great ability to
be able to get through progressions. He can activate different
parts of the field, he can buy time with his legs.
I think he's a much better athlete than me, but
people give him credit for I think that's true. He
(01:50:51):
moved the sticks with his legs a lot this year.
Sean McVay is a smart dude. He saw that no
one else gives him credit for that. For the Rams though,
resolving and how they reconcile Matt Stafford's future, he's going
to be a key indicator of where things will go
the Rams. Matt Stafford just what two years ago, three
(01:51:14):
years ago signed a four year deal for one hundred
and sixty million dollars. Well, that's a pretty staggering amount
for a thirty four year old dude at the time.
Out of that total amount, one hundred and thirty million
was guaranteed. Now, Stafford's average salary is forty million with
a cap hit of forty nine to six, and Stafford
is keeping his options open. The Rams may consider moving
(01:51:36):
on from him because it just may be time to
get a much younger quarterback. A move to the Vikings
would not be that surprising. Stafford has an annual value
sitting at twenty nine million, which could suit the Vikings plan.
Having someone with a veteran presence of Stafford would not
only help their offense, I think most likely it would
(01:51:58):
also help JJ McCarthy. Moreover, Stafford has deeper connections with
the Vikings. Remember Kevin O'Connell was the Rams offensive coordinator
when Stafford won the Super Bowl. What back in twenty
twenty two was a Super Bowl fifty six? And I
think there could actually be a bigger market for Stafford
(01:52:18):
even though he's not young. Finally, one last thing this
story won't end. Stafford could land with the New York Giants. Okay.
Adam Schefter, quoting to him, said quote, Giants are hiring
former Jags and Bill's wide receiver coach Chathall, and I've
told you this three times as an assistant quarterbacks coach.
(01:52:39):
He's related to Stafford. One of The interesting facts is
Chadthall and Stafford are of similar age and they have
quote a brotherly love. Stafford once said he's the brother
I never had. Okay, enough with the soap opera. I'm
just telling you things could be changing. Things could be
changing in Los Angeles. We're watching. I'm telling you this
(01:53:02):
NFL Man twenty four to seven news cycle. You know
what I mean? What did I say earlier about one
of Dion Sanders' son's getting snubbed? What the hell was
I talking about? I'll tell you. Coming up, I'm Bernie Friday.

Radio wherever you get your podcasts. You see the show
posted right after we get off the air at about
eleven minutes and take you out to Boston. We'll be
joined by f Jeff Dawson, insider East Coast Investors, sports consultant.
We were gonna have him on a few weeks ago.
He had a bit of an emergency and had to cancel.
Very understandable. We're going to talk about Bill Belichick. We
(01:54:10):
have other news as well, but there's things to know about.
I'm of the opinion now some of us, including me Mike,
might know Bill Belichick an apology. I don't know if
he's gonna win games in North Carolina, but his early
recruiting returns and what he's been able to do in
the recruiting trail, the reception he's getting trying to establish
UNC is a national program, getting support from the likes
(01:54:32):
of Michael Jordan, the goals he's trying to reach, the
types of players he's trying to recruit to North Carolina,
including one very famous player who was a thousand yard
rusher and one of Bill Belichick's new England Patriot teams.
Bill Belichick has offered his son a scholarship, and we'll
(01:54:53):
get to that coming up in just a minute here.
But you know, you cannot swing a dead cat without
getting three stories about Shador Sanders every single day and
Dion Sanders and what his game plan is for his sons.
And we all know that the NFL Combine is coming up,
(01:55:16):
and on Thursday, the NFL released the full list of
players who have been invited to participate in the annual
scouting combine in Indianapolis. There were actually a total of
three hundred and twenty nine players invited in total to
participate in the scouting combine. Of those, there were fifty
(01:55:40):
six defensive backs invited to participate. Now, I know you're
what with Shador Sanders, we'll see one of the fifteen
quarterback prospects who were invited. Yes, of course he was.
The dude's gonna probably be a first round pick. I
don't know how he's going to do in the NFL.
I'm just not there yet, but he's certainly going to
(01:56:03):
get a very good opportunity. We'll see where he ends up,
and I believe Shdor Sanders will be drafted in their
first round if he doesn't go to the number six
overall to the Raiders, which I think the Raiders are
out of their freaking mind if they draft the quarterback
number six. Overall, they have a whole bunch of other
needs above and beyond quarterback, and they want to try
to win now. As I mentioned earlier paging Aaron Rodgers,
(01:56:26):
but of the fifty six defensive backs invited to participate,
wait for it, Sanders, Shilo Sanders was not one of them. Now,
as you recall, Shiloh Sanders, Yes, he's the son of
Dion Sanders. He's his second eldest son. He played for
the Colorado Buffaloes these past two seasons. He wears number
(01:56:49):
twenty one. Shiloh is a safety, not a defensive back.
It's a safety. He began his college career five years
ago South Carolina, Then he followed his father to Jackson
State in twenty one. Then Shiloh transferred to Colorado in
(01:57:10):
twenty twenty three. Shiloh is now twenty five years old,
but he did have sixty seven tackles, one sack, two
fumble recoveries, and two passes defended in the twenty twenty
four season with the Colorado Buffaloes. Shiloh also participated in
(01:57:30):
the East West Shrine Bowl, but he got very mixed reviews,
very mixed reviews. There was a video put out by
a gentleman named Apex Jones twenty two and Apex Jones
seems like a dude who has strong opinions and he
made very very knowledgeable and he put out a video
(01:57:52):
of Shiloh just getting barbecued in coverage time after time
that went viral and Apex had this to say, quote,
they say, Shilo Sanders has been out there getting fried
at the East West Shrine practices. This is the other
side of sports on social media. One practice can get
turned into a damaging narrative. And that's true. But he
(01:58:15):
also went on to say, I've said before, Shiloh in't
an NFL player. To me, I don't see it. He
definitely ain't a corner and I don't know why they
got him out there doing corner drills and looking bad.
So Shiloh was not invited. Now, I know that video
(01:58:35):
reflected poorly on Shilo Sanders, but again, to be fair,
he's a safety, not cornerback, so lining him up one
on one against top receivers is not going to be
his specialty. I understand he did show off some good
tackling ability. In the actual game. If you don't think
Chilo's going to end up an NFL camp, you're wrong.
Maybe the same one as Shudor. He still could be drafted,
(01:58:56):
and at the minimum, I believe Shiloh will at least
get a look as undrafted free agent. Coming up, we
take you to Boston. We owe Bill Belichick an apology.
Keep it locked, Bernie Fraddles Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:59:08):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio, Well, that's right,
you heard the man.
Speaker 2 (01:59:13):
The Bernie Frattle Show keeps rolling right along. My name
is Bernie Frattle. We are Company Lion from the tarrac

Tyrat dot com will help you get there, an unmatched selection,
fast free shipping for your roadazard protection, and over ten

(01:59:36):
take you out to Boston. We have a gentleman who's
been a regular on my show, Our Boston Insider, and
he was scheduled to come out a few weeks ago
ahead a very serious family emergency. We'll move on from that.
Hope everything is okay, but let's say helload again to
our friend from ECI, Jeff Dawson and Boston. Jeff.
Speaker 5 (01:59:54):
How all right, buddy, Good morning Bernie. We've got about
a half a foot of snow here, but all which
you well, they call.
Speaker 2 (02:00:04):
That Februarynie, Yeah, well it's coming. I lived through seventeen
Detroit winners. Give yourself about three or four months and
maybe the sun will pop out. But I digress. Listen.
I want to start by saying that I think I
owe Bill Belichick an apology. Maybe many of us do,
(02:00:26):
because I'm hearing some very positive early returns. We don't
know if he's gonna win at North Carolina, but very
positive early returns from everything on the recruiting trails, of
the receptions he's getting from fans and alumni, to the
staff he's put together, even a nod from Michael Jordan.
You've been the Belichick and Saturder going back two years
(02:00:47):
when you predicted it would be his last year in
New England, and it was, what are you hearing? What
can you tell us about? But Bill Belichick's actually doing there.
Speaker 5 (02:00:55):
I think it is spawn on Bernie, because when this
first happened, kind of thought it was like going to
be a little dog and pony show. What's Bill doing?
What's he going back to college? And you know, North
Carolina of all places. Uh, started to put the pieces together,
brought the band back together. Michael Lombardi, his son, the
(02:01:21):
four hundred page I guess we'll call it the Bible
that you know he sent to un see the script.
I guess we'll call it.
Speaker 6 (02:01:30):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:01:31):
A lot of us, you know, the June first bio clauses,
but a lot of us were skeptical. Uh, couple last
minute holdouts. Maybe Dallas would call, Maybe uh New Orleans
would call. Well, you're right. Uh, he's there, and he's excited.
He's locally come back to the big schools in Massachusetts,
(02:01:55):
the Archbishop Williams, the Everetts, the fark Borrows, recruiting, believe
it or not, going into the parents' homes and talking
to their sons. Just sent a potential scholarship to the
Garrick once son. Yeah, which would be a couple of
years now down the line. I don't mean this, ton.
(02:02:18):
You're taking this seriously, as in excited and ready to go,
and maybe it's just a one year deal. Meaning gay,
my name's relevant again, maybe we get to the final twelve,
maybe we get to the ACC Championship, but really making
his name relevant again, getting the coaching skills back to
(02:02:41):
where he needs him to be to maybe make another
run next year into the NFL coaching carousel.
Speaker 2 (02:02:47):
Okay, hold that though, I'm definitely going to circle back
to that. He's been on the job two months. He
took the job December twelfth. Then he inherited a recruiting
class that was complete and disheveled and tatters, believe it
or not. After National Signing Day, it's moved all the
way up to number forty in ESPN's ranking class. And
(02:03:11):
he I understand he actually did offer a scholarship to
Legarrett Blunt, Legarrett Blunt Junior I think his name is,
And of course you know Blunt was a thousand yard
Russia with the Patriots. But before I move forward, I
have a question. My last inquisition about this question I'm
going to ask you was that No, it was a no.
(02:03:34):
Has Bill Pelichick officially signed his contract yet?
Speaker 4 (02:03:37):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (02:03:38):
Yes he did do that. Okay, that's why we have you.
Speaker 5 (02:03:41):
Okay, yes he did. That was like the million dollar
question of verbal Yes, everything was there but the XS
and Os, and it was almost one of these last
you know, Dallas job was still available, Jerry didn't come knock,
and and of course the Saints' job was still available,
(02:04:03):
and they were going back and forth, obviously with Kellen
Moore in the Super Bowl, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
So it has officially been signed.
Speaker 2 (02:04:12):
Okay, thanks, Jeff, that's all we have you. I want
to circle back for just a second because the one
you know, punchline about Belichick was, oh, come on, how's
he going to go out and recruit high school kids? Well,
here's how he's gonna do it. He managed to get
a kid out of a high school kid out of
North Carolina named Xavion Griffin Haynes, and he was he
(02:04:37):
was a star studded, you know, defensive end at some
high school. And it's my understanding, he sat the kid
down and he showed up a bunch of same pass
rush pointers, the same one he showed to Lawrence Taylor
back in the eighties, compared him to Lawrence Taylor, and
he said, Xavion, you're gonna have to go to college first,
but you're not only an NFL player You're a first
(02:05:00):
rounder based on who you are, what you bring to
the table, and what I've experienced. When Bill Belichick does
add to a high school kid, all of a sudden,
now this is a game changer. Were we completely wrong
about Billichick's ability to close kids on the high school
level as he appears to have been doing.
Speaker 5 (02:05:20):
Ah, great question, Bertie. I'm going to say yes. Initially.
You know, Bill has the rings. When you talk about
Lawrence Taylor, that is his prodigal son. There is no
better defensive player in the NFL history. If you ever
(02:05:43):
say a bad word about Lawrence Taylor, it's like the
Forcupine and the Quills come up. I mean, no one
says anything wrong about Lawrence Taylor. And Bill coming in
with the game plan, with the script into your home
and saying, hey, if you want to be an NFL star,
(02:06:04):
if you want to go to Super Bowls, I have
the script rate here.
Speaker 4 (02:06:10):
Come in.
Speaker 5 (02:06:11):
We'll get you the right techniques. We'll put you in
the right situations to then make it available to you
to make the next step. So I think we were
very apprehensive. But he's doing it, he's enjoying it, and
he's back in the game. So hats off the bill.
Speaker 2 (02:06:31):
Well, one of the things he's done, and this is
out of the time, is a playbook. Is A knew
Tom when I was in Michigan. If you're going to recruit,
you got to win your state, all right. In Michigan,
state gets who they want pretty much in Michigan for basketball,
Belichich has served notice to North Carolina that's going to
be his state. There's a lot of talent in the state.
(02:06:53):
And he's not only doing it, he just got a quarterback,
a top quarterback out of the state as well. So
I got to tell you, yeah, I'm very impressed. There's
even stories that he's having a blast on the recruiting trail.
Love visiting high schools, loves talking to coaches, loves asking questions,
loves breaking down film evaluating players.
Speaker 4 (02:07:11):
So I was wrong.
Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
Now the other thing too, he's still got to finish
putting together a staff. It's almost complete. He's got guys
like Mike Lombardi and Freddie Kitchens and Steve Belichick. Any
word on how he completes the rest of his staff
or how.
Speaker 5 (02:07:24):
That goes, it's been real quiet.
Speaker 4 (02:07:28):
You know.
Speaker 5 (02:07:29):
Josh McDaniels ended up holding out and ended up here
in New England with Mike Prable. Well, you talked about Kitchens, Lombardi,
his son. I haven't heard a lot of late and
what is still needed. I did see some snapshots not
too long ago of him again locally in town. You know,
(02:07:51):
if you play lacrosse or you you know you play.
That was an added bonus, tongue.
Speaker 4 (02:07:56):
In cheek there fort Bill just having a blast.
Speaker 5 (02:08:02):
Surprisingly, you know, they came out with the cutoffs leeve
hoodie form in this press conference, and it's going to
be interesting, you know, another added bonus for us back
east here on Saturdays? What did North Carolina do?
Speaker 4 (02:08:20):
And then oh, by the way, the Patriots are on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (02:08:24):
All right, so we're going to continue to watch this.
All you got is mention the name Bill Belichick, and
you're going to draw attention. And I think his subject
matter is fairly well evergreen. And pretty soon before you
know it, they're going to be in spring football. So
right around the corner, all right, we pitchers and catchers
are reporting there's major news coming out of Boston, which
(02:08:45):
made the timing of you coming on that not even better.
Having been to Fenway many times, having spent a fair
amount of time in Boston. I know what the team
means of that city. I'm guessing you weren't too happy
that they were eighty one and eighty one last year.
You continue to watch this eve, the Empire, the Yankees
right go past you. So the Red Sox sign Walker
(02:09:05):
b You learned a wald As Chapman and they trade
make a great trade with the White Sox for Garrett Kochet.
But then the icing on the cake, Alex Bregman three years,
one hundred and twenty million dollars deal that is to me,
a real game changer. Breakdown what Alex Bregman means to
this team and manager Alex Cora.
Speaker 5 (02:09:24):
Duck boats parades. We're relevant again, Bernie. We've been irrelevant
for four years now and we haven't spent the dime.
The only thing that we were able to do is
now officially have the number one ranked farm system in MLB.
So you're spot on. You add Garrett Crochet. We have
(02:09:47):
them for two years, but we will get an extension,
a bigger version of Garty of Chris Sale, Bigger, stronger
only through one hundred and forty five in average twelve
point nine strikeouts per nine legitimate ace ad Warker Buehler
(02:10:07):
looked phenomenal in the playoffs and World Series, and that
what that enabled us to do was to take out ones,
twos and threes our Crawford's are bellows and then drop
them down in the order. Add eraldis Chapman for about
twelve million dollars. Jansen now an angel. So we were
(02:10:28):
missing that one piece our infield defensively horrific. Trevor Story
now healthy. You got two kids coming back, are coming
up into the system now Campbell and Anthony. We were
missing that right handed bat. We were missing leadership, someone
that has one that can help the kids' incomes. Fragman
(02:10:51):
an absolute perfect fit initially going to play second. Devis
was early into camp and left on Friday to go
back home and then we'll be back the start of
the week. Nevers has already been paid. So what's best
for this team is to become the second greatest DH
(02:11:12):
of all time for the Red Sox. Of course, David
Ortiz number one, having devors DH, having Castis at for us,
Bregman at third, figure out what we have at second.
But there's a huge, huge buzz here in Boston. We're
actually talking Red Sox again excited, and we really think
(02:11:33):
we got a decent shot here, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (02:11:35):
So, Raphael Devers has been your guy at third base.
Obviously he plays the same position as Bregman. It's been
talked about that Bregman could move the second to keep
Devers at third. For some reason, Alex core hasn't confirmed
that out, even though Bregman in his entire career is
only log thirty innings at second base. He's a third
(02:11:56):
He's a gold glove third baseman. Why would Alex Korra
equivocate on that? Right now? What's the thinking?
Speaker 5 (02:12:03):
It's Dev's team. He's technically the face of the team,
saying all the politically correct things. I almost kind of
dancing walking on eggshells here. Bregman also saying all the
right things. Hey, listen, I'll do whatever is needed for
this team. I have no problem playing second base, turning
(02:12:27):
the double play with Trevor story. Also, Bernie, the Red
Sox are unclear right now, Ken Campbell come in to
camp and take second base if Devs is struggling at
third Initially, if Campbell is struggling at second base, you
(02:12:48):
have options here. If Campbell comes into camp and is
absolutely lighting it up at second base. Devs is struggling,
then it's a no brainer. Hey, hey, Raphael, do us
a favorite. They start on the road, I think their
first two series at Texas and Baltimore. I think it
is before they come home in the Fenway, they'll figure
(02:13:09):
this out. And I think when we really start cooking
here with Chrisco in April and before we get to May,
if Rafael is struggling at there, they'll just move pregnant
right over and then they'll figure out who will.
Speaker 4 (02:13:23):
Be playing second base.
Speaker 6 (02:13:24):
Party.
Speaker 2 (02:13:25):
I wrap it up with Jeff Dawson e cr R
Boston Insider. All right, so just a harsh reality major League.
I listen. I think you know, football's better when the
Raiders are good. Baseball's better when the Red Sox and
Yankees are good. It's better for baseball. According to the
insiders I talked to, no one can deny that the
Red Sox improve themselves. And if you had this team
(02:13:48):
last year, they'd have been a wildcard team, and they
might be a wildcard this team this year as well.
And they've certainly improved their offense a lot, but they
were ranked twenty fifth in defense, and they're there's no
reason to believe they're any better defensively this year. You
do you dismiss the notion that the Red Sox are
no better than a wild card team and won't be
(02:14:08):
able to make a real run. Or you know, what
is your honest to God because you do this for
a living, you know, set aside the odds. Just look
at it through your you know your prism is what
is the Red Sox ceiling in twenty twenty five?
Speaker 5 (02:14:25):
Well, put it this way. With the Bregman signing, I'm
already in on over eighty five and a half games.
They're under over took a bite at the applet around
plus four to ten to win the division. They're plus
one thousand to win the American League, plus twenty five
hundred to win the World Series. Looking at the East, now,
(02:14:49):
the Yankees lost their biggest chip and that Soto. They
had Bellinger, Garrett Cole another year older. The Orioles lose
Corbin Burn and Campa Bay is going to be better
this year. They get some of their pitchers back, McClanahan
and a few others, and the Jays of the Jays
(02:15:11):
they're trying to extend Vladdie here. I think the Socks
are the second best team right now in the American League.
I think they can contend with the Yankees, and I
definitely there minus one twenty five to make the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:15:28):
I definitely think they'll.
Speaker 5 (02:15:30):
Be in the playoffs this year, as long as the
pitching stays healthy, and of course their defense will be better.
They Rafael potentially playing center, moved Durant to left. They've
been trying to get rid of Yoshida and the fifty
five million dollars left in that contract. No takers there,
but Bernie, I really expect they'll be pushing about ninety
(02:15:52):
wins this year.
Speaker 2 (02:15:54):
All right. So that over under bet of eighty five,
I think it's rock solid. They won eighty one games
last year. I think they can win eighty eight this
year for sure. And well, you see how coach I mean,
you gotta stay healthy. And there's some intangils, Jeff, great stuff.
As always, we're gonna follow the Belichick thing, and you know,
the four sweetest on words and sports pictures and catchers.
(02:16:16):
Report it's upon us and give it a few months, Jeff,
that's son will pop out there, buddy, and you'll see
the green grass at Fenway.
Speaker 5 (02:16:25):
Listen, I'll always a seat available for your at Fridley
Fenway out for you.
Speaker 2 (02:16:31):
I'm always done for a Fenway frank Man. But we
gotta start. We gotta start out the casket flagging. That's
that's a must. Okay, gotta start at the casket flagging.
That is Jeff Austin. He thanks again. Jeff always appreciated
Jeff Austin E c I and he joined us from Boston.
He we started having him on Bill Belichick's final year
(02:16:53):
on the sideline at with the Patriots, and very aptly
he predicted, knowing certain terms by mid October, that this
was going to be his last year. I'm were sure
how they were gonna do it, what was gonna happen.
You know, he didn't think Kraft would fire him in midseason.
He didn't do that. I wasn't sure if they were
going to set up so week eightem would be a Belichick.
(02:17:15):
The bottom line is he nailed it and we've gone
from there. I got to take my hat off to Belichick. Now,
I don't know how many games you're gonna win, but
he has taking as serious. This is not some twenty
malooney thing. And you know what, I blew it. I
meant to ask Jeff, what's the reality that Belichick gets
back in the NFL. I do think it's fifty to
fifty at least. I just can't believe he'd get this
(02:17:39):
close to Shula and want to beg off.
Speaker 1 (02:17:42):
But what do I know.
Speaker 2 (02:17:43):
I mean, he's talked about wanting that record, and I
know that I believe when Don Shula was live, I
think I was told this that he cast his versions
on Belichick's record because of the the flake gate and
all that kind of stuff. But by hell, who knows?
All right, coming up, I promised that I would at
(02:18:04):
least touch on the USA Canada hockey takeaways. The gentlemen
who tweeted at me Patrick earlier in the show. He
wants to hear some Look, you can't really talk a
lot of hockey to a national audience and expect him
to be engaged. You got to play the hits. But
(02:18:24):
you can't ignore this either, all right. I mean, I
don't know if he saw the USA Canada tilt. And
by the way, USA advances to the championship game on
Thursday night eat Sweden, But hell, the first ten seconds
of the game are epic. Three fights, all that we're
missing with the Hanson Brothers. You know what I'm talking about.
I'm Bernie fradderwar kemedy lyon from Las Vegas, Fox Sports

We're back at the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio,
Keevil AFTERTAK dot com studios here in Las Vegas. All right,
I hope you saw it because it was worth the
watch in the UH four Nations faceoff matchup between USA
and Canada. And by the way, props to the USA team.
(02:19:26):
They advanced to the championship game versus Sweden next Thursday,
the twentieth of February. This is the first best on bet,
best on best matchup between these two countries in nine years,
and the US pulls out a three to one win
and they were the better team. And I'm telling you,
if anybody doesn't think this matchup wasn't highly anticipated and
(02:19:49):
there isn't tremendous hype and animosity and anger and competition
in between these two teams while the NBA dances around
and plays footsies with these stupid gimmicky things on All
Star Week and the NHL got after it. You don't
believe me. Hell, they had even finished the national anthem.
The game was played in Montreal the Bell Center, A
(02:20:09):
very raucous crowd booed the Star spangled banner, booed it.
Then in the first ten seconds there were three fights.
All it was missing were the Hanson brothers from slap Shot.
Once they got all that Michigan gots out of their system,
USA they pull out their first win over Canada in
a major tournament since the twenty ten Olympics. Low scoring affairs,
(02:20:30):
two to one, and then you had the empty nettor
Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin believe he's a Michigan
State Guyard Michigan are on the two game winning goal,
capitalized on a two on one, got the shot under
Canadian goalie Jordan Bennington. By the way again, Okay, this
rivalry was ignited, reignited, and Team USA clinch is a
(02:20:53):
spot on Thursday's championship game. But what was the difference
Connor Hello. Everybody said the USA had the advantage in that.
Connor Hallibuok is a two time Vesna Trophy winner. He
is the best goalie in the world, and he lived
up to that billing Saturday night. He may have given
up the first goal of the game, but it really
wasn't his fault, all right. You had a speedy Connor
(02:21:18):
McDavid coming at you like hell on wheels, and usually
Connor McDavid gets it done. But after that, forget it.
Stood on his head, had a great game, and the
USA played a very spirited game. Dylan Larkett had impact,
Jake Gunsel and let's you know, it ended a very
lengthy drought against Canada, and again the United States punched
(02:21:42):
their ticket to the Four Nations face off Championship game,
which would be played Thursday night. It's been an amazing tournament. Frankly,
it's been something that has kind of caught my eye
and came out of nowhere. They planned for this for
a long time and there was some build up and
the closer you got a lot of hype. It lived
(02:22:04):
up to the hype. It just simply did tune in
Thursday night. I think you'd be glad you did. As
you know, we covered all here on the Bernie Frider Show.
We've talked a lot of football F T B, A
L L. We also talked some football f U T
B O L. We call it soccer. It's time Chris
(02:22:27):
Purfetts World of Soccer.
Speaker 3 (02:22:31):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama.
Speaker 1 (02:22:46):
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 8 (02:22:50):
Bernie World of Soccer begins tonight in Germany, with about
twelve matches left for most teams in the Bundesliga season.
I won't call the league over, however, with the result
on Saturday, we might be closer to a champion than
ever before. Here early in this season, where at least
some other leagues have a little bit of drama going on.
(02:23:11):
Real Madrid and a Letico Madrid separated by a point
at chase in the Premier League, we'll talk about. But
Bayern Munich has a eight point lead at this time
of the year and they have kept that eight point
lead following a draw nil nil against Leverkusen on Saturday.
Buyer Liverkusen, of course, the reigning champion of the Bundesliga,
(02:23:33):
insatiable pressing in this game, but scoreless, Munich survives.
Speaker 7 (02:23:37):
And that eight point lead might be fairly insurmountable.
Speaker 2 (02:23:40):
At this point.
Speaker 7 (02:23:41):
I've always been shocked.
Speaker 8 (02:23:42):
I've always been surprised to see something different happening, but
it's Munich's not been the Bayern Munich of old. However,
Leverkusen is certainly not putting on a repeat of their
performance from the past year.
Speaker 7 (02:23:57):
If you remember, at this point last.
Speaker 8 (02:23:59):
Year, Bayer Leverkusen basically had Bundesliga wrapped up. They had
been on an insatiable amount of scoring that had seen
them take dominating leads all across Europe and taking home
a Bundesliga trophy. However, in the past five matches in
the German league they have been held to a draw
(02:24:20):
three times. Bayern Munich, however, hasn't suffered a loss in
Bundesliga since I would say the middle of December when
they lost to Mainz to one. It has been a
pretty good run for the German giants, and of course,
over twenty goals so far on the season for one
Harry Kane. On top of that, they passed the first
(02:24:41):
leg of YUEFA knockout round with Scottish side Celtic with
basically flying colors to one. These two clubs have been
circling each other for a while, especially with the other
German giant, Barussia Dortman taking a noticeable step back. They
currently sit I believe eleventh on the German table and
i'm trek Rankfurt is a distant third behind Leeferkusen, so
(02:25:04):
the two can still go at it. The season isn't
over just yet, but it's getting late early and Bayern
Munich looks to be back once again after spending a
year off from their winning ways, back to claiming another
German title. Meanwhile, close races continue in Italy with Knopoli,
Internazion Now and Atalanta all separated by about five points
(02:25:24):
we mentioned earlier the Spanish La Liga, with that Lettico
Madrid of Real Madrid and Barcelona even not far behind
that I think three points behind Real Madrid all waiting
to slug it out to the very end.
Speaker 7 (02:25:35):
The Premier League is going to remain some consternation.
Speaker 8 (02:25:39):
I still don't think Liverpool can be caught, but Arsenal
is going to make a very good go of it
as Nottingham Forest kind of drops to about ten points
back in the third Something interesting happened though this weekend,
as Manchester City found themselves with a very very surprising
tat trick from one of their younger players, twenty six
(02:26:00):
year old or Marma Musch, who had a hat trick
in thirteen minutes against Newcastle United, who Newcastle are not slouches,
they are not at the bottom of the tail by
any stretch of the imagination, overwhelmed them and it's given
some life to Manchester City, who I think at this
point is just really trying to play for a Champions
(02:26:22):
League spot, assuming of course they don't just get absolutely
slaughtered in the tribunal's decisions over their financial improprieties. It
is a scoring avalanche from Marmousch and it's something that
City will need moving forward, especially as their great star
Earling Holland left this game in the second half. City
(02:26:45):
coach Pep Guardiola saying they are hopeful to have Hauling
back in time for their knockout round game against Real
Madrid in the Champions League. But this is the busy
part of the season, Bernie, and the pressure just keeps ratcheting.
Speaker 7 (02:26:59):
Up tighter and tighter for all of these clubs. Across Europe.
Speaker 8 (02:27:04):
And finally, Bernie, we're going to talk about this more
next week as we get more details out here, but
the MLS might actually be seeing some competition here in
North America. USL, the United Soccer League, which is run
the other the rest of the pyramid outside of MLS
for American soccer and defines itself by grassroots soccer clubs
(02:27:25):
such as Detroit City FC and the Pittsburgh River Hounds,
is saying that they are planning on making a Division
ones men's professional league in twenty twenty seven. This would
make MLS Championship Division two and their Division one would
challenge MLS itself. They certainly would have the star power
of someone like Leonel Messi, but I think that the
(02:27:47):
value proposition of a league that is committed to things
such as not aggressively over expanding promotion, relegation, and grassroots
ownership across these leagues, it would be something very very
interesting to see. It's gonna be started by twenty twenty seven,
and it's part of a push now when coincide with
(02:28:07):
a North American World Cup that would be happening here
in twenty twenty six, and we're going to dive more
into this next time in the world of soccer, because
this is really really interesting and I really want to
get some more details on this. This was just announced
on Thursday. We're still building the portfolio. We'll talk to
you next time, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (02:28:27):
So I know the MLS has always had big aspirations.
How else do you learn a lurea Lionel Messi and
you know they host a check that they play in Miami.
In Miami plays at Vancouver White Captain. I'm not sure
when that game is supposed to take place. I think
it was the Vancouver BC Place, which begs the question
(02:28:50):
do they sell enough tickets to you know, fill those venues.
I don't know anyway, All right, coming up, Dak Prescott,
are you tripping? Are you hitting me? What I heard
what Dak Prescott said? My response was simple, if you
need to lie down on the soft chair, get yourself
a cold compress, some more milk and soft music, and
(02:29:10):
hope it goes away. Because when you talk stupid like this,
all it does is bring more unfair, stupid attention onto
the Dallas Cowboys. Why do you do this? Okay, there's
an old saying your action speaks so loudly. I can't
hear what you're saying. All Dak does is talk. I
(02:29:30):
got nothing against Dak. I just wouldn't want him as
my quarterback. Now why did I just do that rant? Well,
I'll tell you coming up as we wrap up the
Bernie Fraddle Show. I am Bernie Fraddle. We are coming
to life from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, tarrect dot
com studios. Keep it locked right here. You're listening to
the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. I've wrapping

(02:29:53):

You know, the great PT Barnum once said, without promotion
something terrible happens nothing. By the way, before I get
to Dak Prescott and his self promotion, I have not
(02:30:37):
talked to one ioed about the NBA Tonight or NBA
All Star Weekend. That's by design. But I gotta give
Mack McClung a little love, Okay, dial up a big move.
Saturday Night set the tone made NBA history. The only
player in this world of three peats, Pat Mahomes couldn't
do it right. Pat Riley couldn't do it. Maybe you
shouldn't naven be Pat. Change it to Mac. He did
(02:30:58):
it three consecutive of slam dunk contest titles. This is
a guy who plays in the G League. Took a
page out of the Blake Griffin book from twenty eleven
when he soared over a key of Sedan and slam
dunk and blah blah blah, and I didn't watch it.
Thank you very much. Cannight folks have been a great audience.
Give it up to Damian Lillard on why he failed
(02:31:21):
his bid to become a third straight three point contest
contest title winner, which means he tried to be a
three point three p Say that five times fast. Couldn't
do it. Give it up to Tyler Hero best of
the field, become the fifth player. I don't know what's
in the water there in Miami. There have been five
different heat players that have wondered over the years. I
(02:31:42):
do think they miss Kitlyn Clark tonight. But Caitlin Clark
doesn't need the NBA. The NBA might need her. But
if you don't need the NBA, just saying, prove me wrong, NBA,
this Luca thing. Will watch the rest of the year.
We'll see where it goes. Okay, and we'll see where
it goes with Dallas and we'll be watching. But let's
face it, the league it seemed better days, not that
(02:32:03):
it can't rebound. It did it did in nineteen seventy nine.
They're just they're just a magic and bird away from,
you know, reviving the league. Although they are making a
fortune and the tenant is up, so I'm gonna be
fair about that. But you know about the buzz here.
Did you hear what Draymond Green said? He called his
own product boring? He called his own product boring? All right?
(02:32:25):
What did P. T. Barnum say? I'll repeat the great P. T.
Barnum once said, quote without promotion, something terrible happens. Nothing
end quote. He also said, there's an ass for every seat.
Dak Prescott, Okay, I really had to do a double take,
(02:32:47):
a triple take, a quadruple take. Actually had the auDA asked?
Heeded to say the Cowboys are quote very close to
the Super Bowl champion Eagles. I'm not of watching the
NBA festivities Saturday night, but I did watch the Super Bowl.
How in the hell in this universe can you make
a case the Cowboys are on the same universe as
(02:33:11):
the rival of Philadelphia Eagles. Not only did the Eagles
impressively dismantle the defending Super Bowl champ Chiefs with raw efficiency,
rode them like a stick horse with relative ease forty
to twenty two. But oh, by the way, the Eagles
had a very dominant performance against a very game, plucky,
(02:33:34):
talented Washington Commander's team. Being in fifty five to twenty three,
that's like we're in nineteen eighty five eighty six Bears world,
where the Eagles outscored their last two opponents ninety five
to forty five. That's a fifty point spread, and Dak
Prescott says, you're close to the Eagles. The gap between
(02:33:56):
the Cowboys and Eagles. I can't hold my hands out
that far, and you couldn't see them on the radio anyway.
But Dak Prescott doesn't see things that way. Maybe we
should change his name to bag Dad Bob. He said
quote that the two teams are very close. Quote, I
feel like we compete with the Eagles and beat them
(02:34:17):
for the most part when we play them. Prescott made
these comments while hosting a children's cancer fund at a
mall in Dallas. He's good at that kind of stuff.
I don't want to say quote check the record, but
the guys that are holding a Lombardi trophy, don't compare
yourself to them, Dak, because they did it in such
a dominating fashion. Don't compare yourself to them. If you
(02:34:40):
have high hopes for the future, that's one thing, you know,
You know, you should sound more like Alfred Lutter in
Bad News Bearers. Okay, Rome wasn't built in the day, No,
it took several hundred years.
Speaker 4 (02:34:54):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:34:55):
Ironically, over the years, Prescott has had some success against
the Eagles. However, not so ironically. During the time that
Prescott's been in the league, the Cowboys have never even
reached an NFC championship game, never even won a playoff game. Well,
maybe they won one. I'm sorry, excuse me, someone, no, correct,
(02:35:16):
the Eagles have hold wait for it, they've been to
three Super Bowls and one two. Paging Dak Prescott. You're
close to the Eagles. They've been to three Super Bowls,
one two. Meanwhile, Mike McCarthy, Barney Robolt, no longer. There
nothing against McCarthy. Wherews all that demand for his coaching services.
He's going to focus on twenty twenty five. Yeah, you
(02:35:37):
do that. And I've got no beef of McCarthy. He's
a good players, coach and all that stuff. But when
he looks like, you know, the lost at the mall
looking for his car in the parking lot, when those
two you know, playoff losses that the Cowboys had against
the Packers and Niners respectively. Okay, I'm back to Prescott. Okay,
(02:35:58):
And in case you were scoring at home this year,
hope you were. The Eagles swept Dallas in their season series. Now,
what's the status on Dak Prescott? He provided a health update.
It was ninety days ago he was having hamstring surgery,
which ended his season. He says his health is good,
he's doing a lot more. I'm getting there. I'm really
(02:36:21):
looking to amp it up here. I got all my confidence.
Will be fine. What the hell do you have any
evidence of that? The last public setting was Prescott attending
the Brian Schottenheimer press conference when he was announced as
(02:36:42):
the tenth head coach in team history. Interestingly enough, they've
not had like what three or four head coaches in
the last ten years. It's pretty clear, at least verbally,
that Dak Prescott is on board with a higher So
things are looking up. We're close to the I'm doing better.
We're gonna amp it up. We're gonna be fine. I
(02:37:03):
once saw a bumper sticker that said anything's possible if
you don't have to do it. I wouldn't bet a
plug nickel on the Cowboys. They're gonna stink again next year.
Maybe not as bad, but they might be as bad.
But at least, according to Prescott, they keep some continuity
in the offense, which hopefully they should because they've been
a huge investment in Dak Prescott and his star wide
(02:37:24):
receiver Cede Lamb, and right now they got nothing to
show for it. But Prescott said he's really looking forward
to worker with Brian Chottenhammer. Well, I think he already was.
He said, he's kind of old fashioned. I don't what
does that mean, He's kind of What the hell does
that mean? Please tell us? He said he's looking forward
to the grind and some things we're gonna do and
(02:37:44):
he's going to add. Excited for him. I know he's
ready for it. He's been in the system a long time.
Something else I am is the way he went on
with the interviewing process. Hey, I don't know. I actually,
by the way, I think football's better if Dallas is good.
So I don't root for Dallas. I just have no
faith in dak Prescott. And Prescott went on to compliment
(02:38:05):
how shot and iron Heimer is putting together a staff
and then the time he's devoted to finding the right assistance.
There are a lot of questions though, that really need
to be answered about this roster on the field. With
a new head coach, who's going to be calling the
offensive players? What are going to be the biggest changes?
And even if Mike McCarthy had remained as head coach
and play caller, they already needed to make a bunch
(02:38:26):
of changes okay, and Schottenheimer said he's got to have
a system flexible to meet the player's drinks. Did they
do that last year? Prescott said, we got to get
the run game goal. And that's all. It's all platitudes.
It's like in the stock market. All I gotta do
is buy low and sell high. If they can fix
this thing, it'll be a miracle. It's gonna do it
for the Bernie Frattle Show. Keep it locked up next.
(02:38:46):
They're great, Andy Furman, Fox Sports Radio,
