Tyrack dot com the way tire buying should be. We
(00:28):
have an absolute jam packed show tonight. It was a
very eventful Saturday, It was a very eventful week in
terms of sports news headlines. I expect this to have
a particularly raucous midnight hour here coming up in about
fifty nine minutes. I've got literally three, four or five
things to delve into, and we'll chop it up and again.
(00:51):
You know, the most boring conversations are when everybody agrees,
So I expect there to be some disagreement tonight. I'll
get to that a little bit later. One thing people
seem to agree on was there was no sense in
having the Timberwolves play the Lakers in the first round
because it was a fad of complete why bother right?
(01:13):
I mean, just as Shannon sharp By the way, has
anybody done a wellness check on Nick Wright? And I
know it's only one game, Okay, I get it. I
was a stringer for the Old Herald Examiner back in
nineteen eighty eight when the Lakers lost at home to
the Pistons in Game one of the nineteen NBA Finals.
(01:33):
Lakers came back to win that series and repeated. And
by the way, for scoring at home, and hopefully you are,
this is the first time the Lakers have lost a
home playoff game, a game one home playoff game, in
fifteen years. And oh, by the way, also in case
you missed it, the Lakers are six and twenty five
(01:55):
when they trail at the half this year. Oh, in
case you missed it, they're under five h hundred on
the road this year, So buckle up. I think Minnesota
got a lot of confidence beating Denver last year. And
that's what I saw Saturday night, a confident Minnesota team
that was superb and transition on both sides. They were physical,
(02:18):
they were fast, they were fearless. Yeah, they made twenty
one threes and that mattered. But let's back up just
a second here, all right, I think it's suffice it
to say that Luca's playoff debut with the Los Angeles
Lakers did not exactly go as planned. Now, he did
(02:39):
have a huge opening quarter right out of the gate.
He's the new star. But things after that point at
Crypto dot com Arena, God, that just does not roll
off the tongue. Still, the Lakers found themselves on the
wrong side of, you know, of a butt kicking it
(03:00):
frankly stunning. Not you You're never gonna like the way
you lose, and we'll get to the Clipper stuff later,
but a stunning blowout. Uh, you know, after that first
quarter that Luca had, the Lakers fell off like an
ambulaince of bugs. Bunny cartoon just rocketed to earth. Timberwolves
win by twenty two, one seventeen over one seventeen to
(03:21):
ninety five. And it should be noted because the Lakers
led by seven after the first quarter, So the Timberwolves
beating by thirty after that point, and uh, the Lakers
have some adjustments to make. There's gonna be some chess
pieces they're gonna have to move around. Don't think Minnesota
can't win this series. Yes, the Lakers do not have
a god given right to go to the NBA Finals.
(03:43):
In spite of what Shannon Sharp says, or Nick Wright
or anybody who's just a Laker fan, that's just a reality.
But when I look at the game Saturday night, I
am going to call this the Jaden McDaniels game. He
made it his game. This is a guy who's been
a role player, he's been a quiet role player, and
(04:05):
he was all that in a bag of chips. They
still say that. I think I just channeled nineteen ninety
one in night Listen in the series opener. This is
a guy and this is what you love. Every every
day in America, a new star is born. I'm not
saying he's a new star. But when you grab twenty
five points on eleven for thirteen, shooting nine rebounds, that
(04:25):
was a crucial, crucial contribution offensively from a guy who's
frankly been lost to the shuffle this season, and frankly
has had his struggles from behind the arc. But he
made all three of his threes, and he attacked the rim.
And what happened to this daunt You know, this vaunted
Lakers defense we saw in February. They like to pack
(04:49):
the painting daria to shoot threes. Well, they dared at Minnesota,
and Minnesota did. Now we all know opposing defenses love
to load up on Anthony Edwards and Julius Randall and
they dare Jade McDaniels to beat them. And that's exactly
what he did Saturday night. He also played pretty strong defense.
Believe he was guarding Luca, but he helped the Lakers,
(05:09):
or checked that. He helped his teammates hold the Lakers
to a forty one percent shooting for garbage time in
the final three minutes, which really didn't matter. Now, can
you really expect McDaniels to do this every game? Daffle?
But what he can do is cause you to pay
attention to him because he'll attack the room, he'll rise up,
(05:32):
he'll knock down shots, and let's face it, the Timberwolves
have a size advantage. And I think the Wolves got
a lot of confidence after Saturday night. I think they
already had confidence when they beat Denver last year and
got to the Conference finals, and I think they gained
even more confidence Saturday night. And that's going to carry
(05:53):
them through the next few days, at least until Game
two on Tuesday. And by the way, make no mistake,
and the Lakers are under five hundred on the road
this year. They have to win one game in Minnesota.
They can't beat them. They have to win at least
one game in Minnesota. Now, let's be honest, the Timberwolves
needed this game a lot more than the Lakers did.
(06:13):
They were facing a future Hall of Famer in Luca who,
for whatever reason, and he certainly did last year in
the playoffs. You know, Dallas road Minnesota like a runted
mule last year. You know, Luca just destroyed Minnesota the playoffs,
and he came out of the gates on fire Saturday
night as well. But you know, the Timberwolves didn't just
(06:37):
beat the Lakers. They dominated And as a matter of fact,
I'm hearing that they were confident they matched up well
against the Lakers, but showing it. You know, there's an
old saying, don't tell me, show me. Well, they did
show what they could do when they bring their a game.
I'm talking about the Minnesota Timberwolves, who, by the way,
who are who are top ten, top eight in both
(06:58):
offensive and defensive efficiency. The Lakers are neither. But the
Timberwolves flex some muscle. It's they've had a full year
with Julius Randall, and they seem to have gotten in
sync with him. No more Carl Anthony Towns. Now you've
got Julius Randall. And I love how the world of
sports can come full circle. Remember Randall was the lakers
(07:19):
number one draft pick in twenty fourteen. Not for nothing,
and this is really important. The tea Wolves out rebounded
the Lakers. O't scored him in the paint forty four
to thirty three, got to the rim. It will beat
him on fast break points every which way. But Tuesday,
Le Brown had only nineteen points and Austin Reeves at sixteen.
And I know we keep seeing that stat every time
(07:40):
Austin Reeves scores twenty points. The Lakers are what one
hundred and ninety two thousand and one or something. Look,
they bothered Austin Reeves and they're gonna do it again.
And Austin Reeves has been a hell of a player
for the Lakers. So let's not overreact to Game one.
But let's also not just flush this like this is
a nothing. The Wolves got such a they didn't have
to really worry about clutch time because that's where frankly,
(08:04):
Minnesota has been weak this year. When clutch time happens.
But they finished up strong down the stretch. Took advantage
of their size advantage in Game one, and they hammered
that home a great some three great point of some
great three point shooting as well forty two shooting and
come and go. We all know that offense can be fleeting,
(08:26):
but when you beat the Lakers underneath, that feels sustainable.
I think you'll see more of that game plan in
game two. Bottom line, the Wolves, their length, their athleticism.
They very much bothered Los Angeles on both ends of
the series. We kept hearing the obvious advantages for Minnesota
(08:46):
were its size, their length, their physicality, or athleticism. They
showed that they did a masterful job of leveraging what
they do best. That dominated the Lakers on both sides.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Of the ball.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
They got out on transition twenty five to six advantage.
They were a step ahead the Lakers with their passing.
They had twenty nine assists to the Lakers fifteen. They
dominated the glass, out rebounding the Lakers by six and
by the way, they shut off the paint. Lakers only
have thirty three points in the paint. That's not very
many when you give up one hundred and seventeen. The
(09:20):
Lakers defense often overhelped. They had to over rotate to
dribble penetration, and what that enabled Minnesota to do was
share the ball, spray the ball space, find open shooters,
and when they found those open shooters, they knocked them down. Now, look,
I'll give the Lakers a lot of credit for the
season they've had during the regular season, where have they excelled.
(09:42):
They have a unique combination of the shot creation of playmaking.
But they got three primary creators, Luca Lebron and Austin Reez.
But see against Minnesota. This is sort of a different
level of challenge because when you bring Rudy Gobert and
Jade McDaniels and Julius Randlin, nas Reed, Nikayle Alexander Walker,
(10:05):
all of a sudden, the Lakers in the week's an
three pointers are either short or bothered, or altered or
blocked by Minnesota's length. They were bothered. This is an
entrustment that Lakers are going to have to make. They
couldn't Saturday. Lakers couldn't get to the rim too often.
They were forced to isolate settle for contested jumpers. Now look,
we know the Lakers will adjust. I expect them to
(10:28):
target Minnesota smaller defenders more. I expect Lebron and Austin
to step up their game Tuesday night, and you really
can't expect Minnesota to shoot twenty one to forty two
from behind the arc every game. Los Angeles can play better,
and they can play harder, and they can play more physically,
but one thing will remain throughout this series. The Lakers
(10:50):
are at an obvious physical disadvantage and there's only so
much they're going to be able to do to overcome that.
Later in the show, I'll get to Nick's pistons, I'll
get to Clippers Nuggets, and certainly we'll get to the
Pacers Bucks. Which was not much to talk about there,
But I like the way the NBA Playoffs got out
(11:14):
of the Blox today. It was it was entertaining, to
say the least, coming out. Mark Medina will join us.
He was at the game tonight at the Crypto dot
Com Arena, and I'll be looking forward to getting his
thoughts and we'll look ahead, and we have other NBA
news to chop up as well. By the way, Fox

we do it every week. We do it fifty two
weeks of the year, and it's especially spicy during the
NBA Playoffs. Three wards, it's that time. Mark medeena Medina
Magic are Fox Sports Radio NBA guru. You hear them
all around the network and certainly on the Bernie Frader
Show every Saturday night. Mark, let me start by this.
It's you know, it's tough to win a playoff game
(13:42):
when Brownie James is held scoreless than three minutes.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
Your thoughts, you know what's a bad sign that brought
in James is playing in a playoff game, because that
means it's a blowout win or loss. So yeah, a
lot of unpack with the Lakers lost in as well
as a lot of other games today.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Yeah, I want to start with the Lakers in Minnesota, Mark,
because I'm not so quick to purpoo this. So the
Lakers are six and twenty five when they trail a
half this year, they're under five hundred on the road.
By the way, Minnesota is seven games over five hundred
on the road, and the Lakers haven't even lost a
home game, one playoff series game in fifteen years. We
(14:22):
can get into certainly how impressive I thought Minnesota was
in their transition. They were physical, fast, confident, everything fearless,
and I took I had a lot of takeaways, but
I want to hear your takeaways. You've got the floor,
what you saw the game in person, give me your
thoughts from top to bottom.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
Yeah, with the cavea. I don't like when people say
it's a long series or dismiss bad performances. I think
practically the Lakers are going to be fine because I
think they have it in them to adjust. But it
was very disappointed that they did not set the tone
in this game.
Speaker 6 (14:56):
One.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
There's a lot of things that were basically handed to
them on a sol patter. They had more than a
week to rest and recover and prepare for this upcoming series.
They have home court advantages the first time they had
a home game with fans to open the playoffs in
twenty twelve, So there's a lot of excitement. There's a
(15:18):
lot of excitement that it's Luca Dodgrige's first playoff game
with the Lakers, a lot of excitement with kind of
the storyline that Luca Doctrich had with Rudy Gilbert during
the last year's playoff run with the Dallas Mavericks and
how he crossed them up, and it did not live
up to any of that excitement. You saw a little
bit of the Luca Rudy show at the beginning and
then it fizzled out. And then what happened is Luca
(15:40):
was trying to carry everything and no one else was
stepping up. And I think they can make the adjustment.
So it was just disappointed they didn't bring it from
the jump. Because Minnesota is a great team. Anthony Outwards
has grown a lot, but they also have a lot
of good, complimentary players that made a very physical game.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
This is not the same Minnesota timber Wolves team from
last year. I feel they got a lot of confidence
by beating Denver in the playoffs. Julius Randall genuinely settled
in nicely, and they're going to have to be some
chess moves clearly made by JJ Redick heading it before Tuesday.
(16:18):
I think I know what those chess moves might be.
Give me what your thoughts on what those chess moves
should be.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
Yeah, well, I think from a personnel standpoint, there might
be more run for Jackson Hayes. He only got eight minutes.
Part of that was because Rudy Gilbert was taken off
before earlier before being put back in. But I think
that Jackson Hayes was not showing the kind of things
that was making him such a great defender. So they
made small ball lines. But there's a lot of issues here.
(16:45):
The Lakers themselves admitted that they didn't have enough physicalities
they get out being on the boards. They committed a
lot of turnovers, they did not defended three well, and
when you add all that up, they also got lost
in transitions. The Lakers, you know, they did bounce back
a little bit, but it didn't set the tone. Well,
you had the fact that outside of Luka Dodgic, there
(17:07):
wasn't a lot of offensive depths. Lebron James didn't score
until I think eight minutes less in the second quarter.
Austin Reeves did not look like himself, going five to
thirteen from the field. So aside from Luka Doncic's thirty
seven points, there's not much to like offensively. And when
he talked to JJ Reddick after the game, you know,
he was lamenting on how you know, there wasn't a
lot of bald movement, there were stagnant there's one on
(17:30):
one play. As much as it's easy to point the
finger at Luka Dodgic and saying, okay, he's got to
remove the ball around a past this teammates, his teammates
also have to make shots here, and so it was
just very disappointing across the board.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Well, a couple things I realized. Jackson Hayes only got
eight minutes, but Jared Vanderbilt has a reputation of being
a disruptor and he had some effect on that getting
under the Wolves skin and they started to make a
little bit of a dent in that big defens Do
you expect to see more of Jared Vanderbilt Tuesday? And
(18:04):
number two, you mentioned that Austin Reeves wasn't himself. Will
give the t Wolves credit. I thought they bothered him
from the jump.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Yeah, I do expect more Jared Vanderbilt. He's been an
underrated player, and part of it's because he's been struggling
with the injuries. To keep in mind, when they got
him two years ago in the exposed trade deadline move
that really transferred them defensively. Yes, it helps with Anthony Davis,
but now he had an anchor here fast forward here
they became a better defensive team because he was healthy
(18:34):
and Lebron James was actually trying after the Anthony Davis trade.
So you also add the fact that he doesn't like Minnesota.
They're the team that trade him. He's going to be
a huge X factor. Now what you mentioned about the
Wolves defense, to give him credit without a doubt. I
think the guy that has to give the most credit
is Shane mccannon. Yes, twenty five points, but he's an
(18:56):
amazing perimeter defender. Anthony Edwards just said he's the best
permoner defender in the league, and the reason is he's
really good at seizing individual matchups, whether it's picking up
Luca Dodgic at half court or Austin Reeves or moving
on or off the ball. Great communicator. So I think
he's great defender number one, great defender number two. I
know Rudy Gobert, you know, gets dumped on a lot
(19:18):
because of just how he's struggles defending you know, perimeter players.
But he's a great room protector. You have the fact
that Anthony Edwards has started to play both sides of
the court, and Julius Randall as a really physical guy.
The Lakers have their hands for now. To be clear,
I think the Lakers will still win the series. The
Lakers have better talent from top to bottom. But you
(19:39):
have to take this Minnesota team seriously. They've ended the
season both top ten offense and defense for a reason, top.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Eight and talking with Mark Adina adda magic last thing
on this matchup. To me, it's undeniable. You saw it
up close and personal tonight. The Wolves have a length
and they have an athleticism. It's going to bother Los
Angeles on both ends of the floor for the entire
series period. Now I know that you can't, you know,
(20:08):
continue to shoot twenty one to forty two from behind
the arc. Yeah, but what is sustainable is the te
Will's ability to play down low that I believe is sustainable.
How do the Lakers combat that?
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Yeah, well, you're exactly right. I mean, nas Reed going
six to nine from three point range, that's uncommon. But
nas Reed doing all the intangibles, that's what he does.
That's why he wants six to the Man of the
Year last season. Now, as far as what the Lakers
need to do to limit the paint presence, it goes
back to the physicality. One interesting thing is they can
(20:43):
tested a lot of shots in the paint. Well, they
just weren't getting rebounds. So they need to box that
lot better, get bodies on bodies. And again, they had
the personnel to do it. They just got to put
it together. And this is why it's said disappoint It's
not so much about reacting to one loss and saying, Okay,
now they're in tarl Well they're fine. It's just that
they're better than this and they shouldn't make it any
(21:04):
harder than it should be. You give the Wolves all
the crowd in the world, but the Lakers also didn't
do their part.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Let's talk about the other Los Angeles team. Once again,
Denver showed they could take a punch. But I watched that.
I watched this game with great interest, and frankly, I
thought the Clippers should have won. They gave up twenty
nine points off twenty turnovers. Clean that up and they
win the damn game. Now, both teams look fairly well
(21:31):
gassed at the end of the game, and they don't
get to wait till Tuesday. They have to play Monday.
What are your thoughts on the Clippers rebounding Monday and
for the remainder of the series.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
Yeah, well, it is a quick turnaround, and it's in Denver,
where the high altitude is. I think obviously it could
have gone either way. It was a two point game
and overtime. Now, one of the things that they might
adjust more is not allow Russell Westbrook to do Russell
Westbrook's thing. He only went five to SEVN two from
the field, but he had a lot of open shots.
They're stagging off of him because he's not a good shooter.
(22:04):
But Russ likes to take it out on teams that
he felt disrespect to him and he was at the
Clippers last season, didn't play a lot in the playoffs
because he didn't play well and he wanted to have
a revenge game. But they got to take at least
his athleticism seriously. They got to take Christian Brown's out
by shooting seriously, as well as Jamal Murray. But look,
(22:25):
you look at how the Clippers played a Vita Zoo
boxes playing at elite level as a step Ya Harden,
same thing, Kawhi Leonard, same thing. They have so much
depth from top to bottom where all their starters cracked
double digits. And when you look at ty Lue, the
Clippers coach, he has seen as the master at making adjustments,
(22:46):
so I don't think they need to make any major adjustments.
But he's also good at making it various tweaks, even
if it's just you know, things about when he's going
to take a guy out and roster combination. So of
I think the Clippers will Game two. There was an
element of the Nuggets trying to feed off the adrenal
and rush with playing for David Adaman assistant coach. I
(23:07):
got promote a head coach after the Michael Muran firing.
But I think the Clippers are the better team because
usually it's a Nikola Jokic than everyone else.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Well, and give it up to David Adelman. They're actually
four and oh since he took over. Yeah, but I'm
glad you brought up a Vika Zubach because that's where
I was going next. I think his presence is real.
Denver is going to have to figure out a way
to handle his presence in the paint. He had a
great ability. He made Nikole Jokic work for everything. He
(23:38):
kept knocking him off his spots. He presented a lot
of resistance at the rim. He contested everything. He made
an a human at times, and that's you know. Zubox
defense at the rim not only affected Jokic at times,
but other Denver players who drove to the basket and
they altered their shots. He just defended incredibly Well. I
want to make a bold statement and you can respond
(24:00):
to this. Based on what I saw Saturday, I actually
think the Clippers have a better chance of beating the
Nuggets than the Lakers dual of beating the Timberwolves.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
You got the fool all that is that is a
bold statement. I think the Clippers are going to win
this series. But I also think the Lakers are gonna
win the series. I think the Lakers lacked a lot
of things that they can easily correct or the Clippers.
In the Nuggets, it was a competitive game. You know,
it went back and forth, and I think when you're
talking about the Beata Zoobos specifically, you hit the nail
(24:31):
on the head. Great rim protector, great versatile, skill, skilled
big as far as how he is as a score
and there's a reason why Tyron lou and he's not.
I don't think he's exaggerate. And he thinks that he's
one of the best centers in the NBA. I mean,
Nicole Jokich is the best center in the NBA and
when healthy to all Embi the second. But you know,
I think basically after Karl Anthione Town's at third, you
(24:53):
could make the case with a straight face that is
beat to Zoo Boss is the fourth and best big
in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Look, he does a lot of things. Well, I've seen
that drop step left hand and he's I'm impressed. I
hadn't seen enough Zoo bops during the regular season, and
I'm not overlook I'm not overreacting. Mark to Game one
with the Lakers. I just saw some things that were
really bothersome. I was a stringer for the Old Herald
Examiner during the nineteen eighty eight Bad Boys Pistons Finals
(25:23):
versus the Lakers, their first trip to the finals with
Isaiah and the Lakers. The Pistons strolled into the Forum
and led by twenty in Game one, and led and
led by twelve. It won the game by twelve. You know,
everybody was jumping chip all this Lakers team, blah blah,
and the Lakers came back and won the series in seven.
And this is a team that had repeated they had
won the year before in eighty seven. The Lakers are
(25:44):
still trying to find their way, if you will. I
don't like I don't think they're one hundred percent comfortable.
The hole is not greater than some of its parts.
And you you mentioned you said something I kind of
got to push back on. You think the Lakers top
to bottom are better than the timberwol I'm not so sure.
After their top three players, I'm not so sure that's
(26:04):
I agree with that. Do you really believe the Lakers bench,
in supporting cast is better man for man than the Templewolves?
Speaker 5 (26:11):
No, but I think the bigger thing is that Luca
Doctors and Lebron James. I think when you compare those
two stars versus the Wolves stars and Anthony Edwards and
Julius Randall, Luca and Lebron are better. You know, Lebron's
finals or caliber level. Yeah, he's not the same player
as he once was, but Luke is a top five
player right now. Anthony Edwards, I would say, is probably
(26:33):
a top ten. But I think you know, the supporting
cast that the Lakers have, it's very respectable. It doesn't
have the same kind of continuity that the Wolves have
with Mike Conley and you know, Nas Reed and Jade McDaniels,
but their supporting cast has improved a lot. I mean
Austin Reeves with exception the tonight's game that was awful.
(26:56):
I mean, he's been a guy that's averaging twenty five
points the game since the Luka Doncic trade. And you've
seen players like Ruliatchama, Gabe Vincent, Dorian Finney Smith hit
timely shots. You've seen guys like Jared Vanderbilt and Jackson
Hayes makes defensive plays. So I do want to be
clear that it's not likely. Their benches a liability. They
(27:18):
do have good rosters that I would say the Wolves
bench is better. But when I'm saying top to bottom,
I'm adding their star players. The Lakers have better star
players than the Wolves too.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
No question, But the Lakers bench, I think managed what. Yeah,
the Wolves have.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
A better bench, but I'm saying the Lakers have a
respectable bench.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Yeah. Look, look sixty one half does the other. At
the end of the day, they got to get on
the floor and do this. And I realized that that
Austin Reeves is better than he was showing Saturday. But
I prefer to give a lot of credit to Jaden McDaniels,
who was incredible on both sides of the floor. His
plus minus was twenty seven and Austin Reeves is minus
twenty five. So we'll see what happens. Listen, the Lakers
(28:02):
are going to have to win a game in Minnesota. Now, Yeah,
Minnesota just holds Serve at home. This thing's over now.
I'm not predicting that's going to happen, but they're going
to have to win a game in Minnesota. I'm not
so sure how easy. That's good. What I saw and
I know I've overstated this. I saw a very confident,
very confident Minnesota team.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
The Wolves are a legit team that are very confident.
Don't get me wrong. Here here's where here's where I land.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Here.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
It's going to be challenging for the Lakers to win
in Minnesota, but they can do it. The Lakers still
have what it takes to win this series. Now, if
they're down oh two, that's if I'm a Laker fan,
start staying worried because you're just you don't have margin
for er at all. And so I think the takeaway
that I have for the Game one is that they
needlessly made it more difficult than it could be. If
(28:49):
they had set the tone, it would have still been
a competitive series. The Wolves are a legit team, but
at least they would have been the driver's seat, and
now they have to play catch up. But Game two,
I would say, technically speaking, mathematically speaking, it's not a
must win situation, but I would say logically speaking, it
is because of how great Minnesota is. But for now them,
(29:10):
faced in a one zero deficit, it's still manageable for
them as long as they make their adjustments.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
You might you might find this interesting to know that
when Lebron loses the first game of a series anytime, anywhere, lifetime,
he's twelve and eleven, he's a prouder.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Did about how about this that Bubble Championship lost game
one in the first round of Portland, lost game one
the second round as Houston.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
They wound up.
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Winning both series and five games. I don't think it's
going to happen like that with the Wolves. I had
to make a prediction. I still think the Lakers win
the series booby and six games.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Well next Saturday, and it'll be a fun conversation regardless
of what's happening. Well, I would just say this, I
dis miss I just miss the Bubble Championship. Not that
they didn't earn it and have the same situation, but
time off is not created equally. That was a tired
old team. They didn't four months off and they didn't
I have to travel. And I will tell you this.
I saw I covered the Pistons when the Pistons got
(30:04):
knocked off their perch in two thousand and seven by Lebron,
a young Lebron James. What happened was they'd been to
four straight Eastern Conference Finals, five straight Eastern conference finals
and two straight NBA finals, and they were so worn
out by the series before when they beat Lebron that
they had no gas in the next series. That could
(30:26):
end up being a problem here if this goes seven
and then the Lakers tied up next round against Golden
State or somebody. The carryover effect is real, belief, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
The carryover effect is real. And I think you hit
on a good point because it's not just about Okay,
can they beat Minnesota. It's about what will the fatigue
look like against either Houston or Golden State. But here,
let me defend myself on the bubble because I covered it.
Speaker 7 (30:49):
I'm with you.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Yes, that is an advantage that the Lakers and other
NBA teams had with pausing the season in March and
the rest hating the reset button, not having to travel
on the bubble. I think those two advantages were vastly
outweighed with all the other disadvantages of having no fans
in the stands, being away from friends and family, having
to do all the COVID protocols because that was what
(31:12):
was required to be safe. Those things were very challenging,
very real, and I can tell you because I was
there for it. But yeah, it is what it is,
fair enough.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
The only other series I want to touch on for
now is, I know the Pistons had become a very
trendy pick to beat the Knickson for a while, but
there's a thing such as lack of playoff experience. And
as much as the Pistons had been a phenomenal story,
and you know, I'm still very plugged into Detroit and
their group of veterans played well enough to keep them
in there until that twenty one nothing run. But I
(31:46):
think that's what you can expect. I think teams with
playoff experience are going to prevail in this tournament. That's
just the way it always is. You got the last word.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
Yeah, I mean it always cuts both ways sometimes when
you're young, you know. I asked Tylou about this the
other day with the Clippers Cooch, and he said, sometimes
it can help because you don't know any better. But
I am with you that usually having an experienced team
plays your advantage because they know the rhythm of the playoffs,
they know how to make adjustments, They're not overwhelmed with
(32:17):
the moment. I like this Pistons team. They're the real deal.
Kid Cunningham is a star. They have a lot of
good young players with Ostar Thompson, great defender, as AA
Stewart's a real physical guy. You know, Tim Hardaway, Junior,
Tobias Harris, all good veteran presence here. But those are
those aren't star veterans. Those are role player veterans. And
(32:37):
when you're looking at the Knicks, as long as you
have Jolen Brunson on your team, the Knicks are very
tough out. I mean, he's been a gamer. He at
thirty four points to night forty minutes. And I don't
think that the Knicks have enough to you know, beat
the Celtics or the Cavaliers in the playoffs, but they
certainly have enough to beat the Pistons in the first
round because Joe Bronson's great class player, great competitor. His
(33:02):
chemistry with Carl and the Towns is one to none,
and they have some good role players to throw John
Inobi and Josh Hart and so it might not be
enough in future rounds, but for this round, I think
that's gonna be a short series.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Mark because of what happened to night at the Crypto
dot Com Arena, we really needed to spend this amount
of time when this, I didn't get to another topic
about who has so much to proving the playoffs, including
Karl Anthony Townsend. I even had Julius Randell on the
list because I know the Lakers interior defense is vulnerable
and Randol is the type of driver and finisher who
(33:35):
can possibly exploit that vulnerability. So you almost wonder if
Julius Randall has just a little something extra. Remember he
was drafted first round by the him in twenty fourteen
and never worked out in Los Angeles.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
Yeah, and I mean, look, KUIs Randall was a great
player with a young player with the Lakers. It was
just that he was young and so he he really
didn't play at all his rookie season because he got
a season ending injury his first game. But knowing how
Julius Randall is, yes, I think that's another element of
wine to bring it against the Lakers because he was
a good young talent. You know, they are obviously clearing
(34:08):
up cap space to try to get Lebron James and
then Anthony Davis, and he was a casualty with that,
and so you know, the Lakers, they don't regret letting
him go was for that, But Julius Randall has been
a very good young player. He's had some ups and
downs with injuries and consistency, but Randall's a gamer and
he has a very unique skill set. Great playmaker, you know,
(34:31):
good mid range outside shot, and he's a competitor and
so sometimes he makes mistakes. Sometimes he's not the best defender,
but he always brings it every single night, and knowing
how he is, he definitely wants to sig to the
Lakers because of the history.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
Mark, I'm already looking forward to next Saturday night. It's
going to be fun.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
Thanks Paal, I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (34:55):

ten minutes away from midnight here in Las Vegas. Literally
figuredly or literally where you're at eight seven seven nine
nine six six three sixty nine eight seven seven nine
(36:19):
to nine on Fox. Get your fingers ready. The callers
have been outstanding. We got so much to choose from tonight,
so we got to dive into it. Number one, Remember
I held this silver from last week. Nico, not Nico Harrison.
Nico ia Ma Liava left Tennessee, said he wanted four million,
they'd give him two point four. Now it's not about
(36:41):
the money. Hop up, up, up, up up whatever. So
a week it's going by, and a lot's happened. Now
it looks like he's gonna end up at UCL eight.
We don't know. It's kind of been reported, and it
looks like he's not gonnat anywhere near the amount of
money he got at Tennessee. So I want to hear
from you who's gonna get the last laugh here, Tennessee
or Nico? Whose side are you on Tennessee's or nicos See?
(37:02):
Even urban Meyer checked in this week and said Tennessee screwed.
They let a great quarterback out. Now they don't you know,
they got a kid who took six naps last year?
Well are they? So Nico's gonna have the last laugh
going to UCLA one hundred and twentieth ranked offense in
the nation, where he said offenses is his choice. You
tell me. Okay, a week has gone by, he hasn't
(37:24):
signed out with anybody new. It doesn't look like his
market's that vast, but the story is not final yet.
So who sat are you on? Nicos Or Tennessee's who's
going to have the last laugh number two? Dion's back
in the news, Shadoor, he is getting his number retired.
Well so is Travis Hunter. Well, he won the Heisman Trophy.
(37:46):
Rashaan Salom, the other other Heisman Trophy winner in the
history of Colorado football, got his number retired, But Cordiel
Stewart doesn't. Mike Pritchard doesn't. A lot of great players
who contributed to national championships and other things they didn't.
But she over has. And Deane said, well, the only
reason you're talking about this because of his last name.
Now we're talking about it because he was thirteen to
twelve was his starter. They can do whatever the hell
(38:07):
you want. If you're in the last names, why not
put Schilo Sanders up there too? All right? Your thoughts, hey,
you know, maybe maybe you think this is a great idea.
Should Shudor have his number retired? Number three? Time Magazine
listed their one hundred They're one hundred most influential people
in sports. Kitlin Clark does not make the list. Are
(38:30):
you kidding me? Okay, help me help me unpack this. Uh,
maybe you have reasons why she wouldn't all right. All
I can tell you is everything Clark did last year
in college and her influence on the populary of women's
basketball over the last year has been evident in every
measurable statistics, from from viewership to to fans in the
(38:55):
in the stands, to revenues. Everything. Okay, they now fly
private because of Kitlyn Clark. So we got Nico? Who
sat you on? Nico or Tennessee? Shador got his number retired?
You cool with it? Why not Kaitlin Clark? How does
she not make the top one hundred most influential people?
What am I missing? Finally, look, we got to talk
(39:15):
about this Lakers Clippers thing. We got two very good
LA teams. Who were you more confident in that could
advance past the first round? The Lakers or the Clippers?
Eight seven seven nine nine, six sixty three sixty nine,
eight seven seven, nine to nine on Fox it's the
(39:36):
midnight hour. You know what to do? Callers have been
fabulous Nico versus Tennessee? Who sat are you on? Shador
was thirteen and twelve. I don't care what his last
name was. He is now got his number retired. Kaitlyn
Clark can't make the top one hundred most influential athletes.
And then finally Lakers and Clippers, who do you have
more confidence on to advance? Keep it locked. You listening
(39:59):
to the Bernie Fradder Show. It is the midnight hour
of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
It's time right now, the midnight hour.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Eight seven seven nine nine six six three seven nine
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox we are talking
Nico versus Tennessee. You heard Urban Meyer's comments, who's Sata Young?
Who's going to have the last laugh? Shardor what the hell?
They went thirteen to twelve? He didn't win a national championship,
didn't win a bowl game, didn't win a didn't win anything.
But his number is retired. Maybe that's a good thing.
(41:50):
I don't know. Caitlin Clark, oh yeah, she can't make
the top one hundred in according to Time magazine of
influential athletes and Lakers lippers. Uh, well, you know, one
of them could advance, or neither of them advance, or
both could who you more confident? By the way, I
didn't even mention Aaron Rodgers. I'm gonna get to that
later in the show. If you want to talk about that,
that's fine too. This is your hour. Let's do it.
(42:11):
You've been great. We begin with Eric in Long Island. Eric,
welcome and starts off tonight. Welcome to the Bernie Frowder Show.
Speaker 8 (42:19):
Hey, you're doing, Bernie. What's going on?
Speaker 2 (42:21):
Bro? Good? Nice to hear from you. Are your first
time caller?
Speaker 8 (42:24):
Uh no, I'm a call usually to the Ben Maui Show,
but I want to try calling you this time.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
Well, good, let's hear from you. What have you got
for us tonight?
Speaker 8 (42:35):
I think the Nicks are gonna sweep the bad boys.
They gotta watch out for Cunningham. Payne is gonna drink
some champagne when they coulinch and I think they're gonna
have a good year this year. I think they're gonna
win the whole the whole thing. Think of the truth
once thing comes up the bench in the fourth quarter
to smoke the team, or also about the Lakers. They're
(42:56):
not gonna go down easy, you know what I'm saying.
Also about Kaitlyn Clark, go ahead, Oh, I think she's
one of the top one hundred into the Wential Sports Athletes,
And I vote my nephew a Caitlin Clark pote picture
on the Sports Illustrated because someday it's still worth a
lot of money.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Probably will all right. Nice to hear from Eric. Appreciated,
And I will say this, I always root for the
story and if somehow the next win the championship, that
would be a fantastic story. And I really mean that,
that would be a hell of a story for the
NBA Poppy in San Diego. We got all these topics tonight.
Which one do you want to start with?
Speaker 3 (43:35):
Yeah? You know the first one, you know, the quarterback
with the UCLA you.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Know, yeah, Nico Nico Im Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
I don't know, had the Bernie who the last lap?
But I think they'll be Doug grading UCLA and you
know Doug better than Tennessee. You'll have the best lap
right onto with Sanders, you know, well, yeah, we're only
talking about this. How even Deon Sanders said, we're only
talking about it because of the last name is getting retired.
(44:05):
How you said, Bernie, both of the Suns should have
their thurday retirded.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
Center A smart assos.
Speaker 7 (44:14):
Yeah, don't.
Speaker 9 (44:16):
I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
But the reason why they're doing that, Bernie, is because
you make beyond Sanders happy. You want them to stay
there as long as possible. So I see them rideing
in between the boat wall, you know? And uh. And
then on the third one, the New York Times magazine
or Times magazines? Who reads that top one hundred? Like
nobody cares about that. We know Clayton and Clark. She's
really influential and she should be there, Like now we're
(44:40):
talking about them.
Speaker 5 (44:40):
Who cares?
Speaker 3 (44:41):
She should be on the top fend you know?
Speaker 2 (44:44):
This is crazy be in the top two. I'm going
to get to substatu lad. I'm going to give a
commentary on her at the top of the hour.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
Continue on yeah, and then on the on the basketball
right on the.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Lackers and Clippers, who you maybe? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (44:59):
I love the basketball playoff series even though Lakers had
you know which always the DNA magnic Lakers have a
slump to have a better team with Luka Donks and
Luca Magic, Lebron James Austen recall of that right, even Broddie.
Speaker 11 (45:12):
James, I was happy.
Speaker 6 (45:12):
Did he played right?
Speaker 3 (45:14):
But Lakers have to bounce back on the next one.
Speaker 12 (45:17):
It's gonna be a revenge game.
Speaker 10 (45:18):
And I actually bet it.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
On on the whole series, and I think the Lakers
are going to win that game. So that's that they
have the better chance and the Clippers, because Clippers with
Kawhi Leonard, he gets injured too much, Bernie, so I
can't trust him, you know, Poppy.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
Always good to hear from you. Good luck to your potters.
We'll hear from me again. Thank you next week. By
the way, Mick Lewis checks in, he brings up a
good point. Deon Figures Ward number two. Deon Figures played
for Colorado. He was part of that national championship team
in nineteen eighty. He said that number should have been
traid years before shador of A stepped on campus. Figures
(45:52):
was excellent, very decorated college football player. That's absolutely true.
As a matter of fact, in North Carolina joint just
welcome into the Bernie Frattle Show.
Speaker 13 (46:05):
Bernie, thank you for taking my call, sir, I appreciate.
So let's start with what's going on with Tennessee. It
doesn't matter where this kid ends up and why because
any other kid's going to do the same thing in
another start program and it's just going to continue to
happen until the NCAA says, anil, this is what's going
to happen. This is how we're going to do things.
(46:26):
Either you sign and stay or you are out, and
the NCAA is not going to do that because there's
just too much money involved. Either they keep the players happy,
they keep the schools happy. It's not going to happen
either way.
Speaker 5 (46:40):
Number two.
Speaker 13 (46:41):
So we then take a look at what's going on.
Speaker 7 (46:43):
But beyond I.
Speaker 13 (46:45):
Don't care where his sen son ends up in regards
to being rated at the university. Why because the NFL
is going to determine his success. He's going to be
a joke thirteen and twelve, and now you're going to
go and try and step into the NFL. He's going
to be a third stringer and he's not going to
be productive anywhere, and it's going to be an embarrassment.
(47:06):
So that's why he'll end up. They'll have his millions
and some team will say he's going to be my
savior yet not going to happen.
Speaker 14 (47:13):
Number three Ka, this Clark.
Speaker 13 (47:17):
That woman has changed the WNBA. They have shown respect.
I mean, look what she did against five men, twenty
two points. Twenty two points against five.
Speaker 5 (47:28):
Guys, all on her own.
Speaker 13 (47:30):
This woman dominates. She is a scoring phenomenon. This gives
the WNBA stature with all of the other key players.
And until the NBA gets off its backside and starts
to support this league, this is what's going to continue
to happen. No matter how good she is.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
We keep going. Hold on, you're at a real big fella,
and I'm loving this call, your candor. The NBA has
done more than support the league. They've carried it on
its back for twenty five years. All the WNBA does
lose millions every year. They lost forty million last year,
and the only reason they exist is because the NBA
continues to write the checks. Those are. That might be
(48:08):
an inconvenient truth for some people, but it's a fact.
Continue on, Christopher.
Speaker 13 (48:13):
But well, the point though, Bernie, even though they're supporting
the league, then why put it where it's where nobody
cares about watching the sport. That doesn't help It doesn't
help it because then if you're going to do that,
why don't you just put it during the same time
NCAA happens. People care about basketball, then they don't care
about it now. This is an insult to the league.
Somebody needs to wake up to their backside and do
(48:34):
some better marketing to say.
Speaker 5 (48:36):
This isn't working here.
Speaker 13 (48:37):
Maybe we should change something.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
I guess not.
Speaker 13 (48:40):
So let's talk about the Lakers, but I know you
know what I change.
Speaker 7 (48:44):
Them, EF.
Speaker 13 (48:44):
I want to talk about mister Rogers neighborhood. Okay, ahead,
mister loser can't find the league, can't find a team?
Why because he's a jay ass. I'm sorry I didn't
say that correctly. He is a jerk. The bottom line
is nobody wants him. He screwed up when he went
to the Jets. He mouthed off. He thought he was
better than what he really was and it showed. So
(49:06):
who wants this man? Because all he cares about is
his ego.
Speaker 5 (49:10):
He can't perform anymore.
Speaker 13 (49:12):
Go away, please just go away.
Speaker 5 (49:15):
Do the NFL a favor.
Speaker 13 (49:16):
Stop hanging around, Stop going on major talk shows and
podcasts thinking I'm so important.
Speaker 15 (49:22):
You're not.
Speaker 13 (49:23):
You're past your prime.
Speaker 16 (49:24):
Go away.
Speaker 2 (49:26):
Christopher, great call. Don't be a stranger man. We do
this every Saturday night, and make no mistake. Aaron Glenn
had no interest in being in the Aaron Rodgers business,
and it's hard to blame him a little later in
the show, I'm going to show you why, especially after
that another lame interview with Pat McAfee, who's really not
trained to do interviews, not at all. He proved the
(49:47):
Jets made the right decision. Aaron glid did Jim in Massachusetts?
What's up? Jim Lot on the plate tonight Take it Away?
Speaker 17 (49:55):
Was going, Bernie, I'm with Tennessee. I don't believe it
should be money in sports, especially in college.
Speaker 7 (50:02):
Now you see that, Now you see.
Speaker 17 (50:04):
The Pandoras box that they're open, every kid is going
to start pulling the same stuff. So you know, I'm
with Tennessee, and I hope the college is wake up
because you know, once one pays, and they all have
to pay. Look what happened to baseball, bazillions of dollars
everybody makes. You know, once it opens up, you can't
stop the once the snowballs run rolling down the hill.
(50:26):
Uh she sure Sanders they're retiring to his number? Are
you serious. That is just beyond bazaarre. And you better
not go to the Giants. You better not go to Giants.
We are no way bert Nerdi didh I have the
Three Stooges.
Speaker 7 (50:42):
I love the Three Huges.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
Yeah, they courted the Giants courted Matthew Stafford. He said no,
the courted Aaron Rodgers. He said no. They gave Jameis
Winston four million and Russell Wilson are yeah, twenty million
and guaranteed ten. So that sounded like a team that's
going to draft a quarterback, especially with Ryan Dable and
Joe Shane in the hot seat. He doesn't fit an
immediate need this year. He will not help the Giants
(51:07):
this year. And the if they draft him, if the
Giants draft shoodor Sanders, then I believe Brian Dables signed
his own death war.
Speaker 17 (51:15):
And continue on, well, if they if they draft them,
they might trade him, you know, like they did. Eli
Manning went from San Diego.
Speaker 12 (51:23):
To New York.
Speaker 2 (51:26):
And Eli Manning not by a mile and almost sticking
to my guns, continue on.
Speaker 17 (51:30):
Jim, and the other thing is I cannot but well,
Caitlin Klott is a phenomenon, you know, and the thing is,
no one should worry about what Time magazine says, because
that's a liberal rag and they believe in all that
woke stuff and all this.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
But do you know the iron They just gave her
Jim Athlete of the Year last year, and she doesn't
make the top one hundred most influential athletes and two
other NBA players no one could ever recognize did did
continue on?
Speaker 7 (51:59):
Yeah, And that's just the way it is.
Speaker 17 (52:02):
It's the way they are there, you know, all those
taper just all you're gonna do is research who's saying
that about her? But she is a phenomenon and I
think the country and the world should be happy that
they have her as long as they have her. And
one last thing, just just for me going to work
(52:22):
every day and listening to him stuff, You and Medina
have got a really bad case a Laker ritis. I'm
telling you they're not going anywhere.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
I'm saying there. I think they're getting done by Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (52:36):
Mark.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
Look, Mark covers the team, and I respect Mark, and
I think he does do his best to maintain his objectivity.
I do.
Speaker 7 (52:43):
But may Well, I know you're in their market.
Speaker 17 (52:46):
I know Las Vegas is the market.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
I got to play the hits, Jim, Hole, stay right there, fellow,
I got to play the hits. You're the number two
media market. The Knicks haven't done anything since Moby Dick
was a Minno. This trade was the biggest trade in
fifty years. And if the Lakers don't at least get
to the NBA Finals or the conference finals, it's not
going to be pretty. Lebron is the most polarizing athlete
(53:10):
I can remember in the last thirty years. His son's
on the team. The Lakers have massive expectations, so I
have to talk about them because they continue to be
a story. Jim.
Speaker 7 (53:23):
Yeah, well that's that's true.
Speaker 17 (53:25):
But you know what, at the end of the day,
it's about.
Speaker 7 (53:28):
Winning, you know, and I just don't.
Speaker 2 (53:31):
Well the question will they do it?
Speaker 7 (53:35):
No, they will not do it.
Speaker 17 (53:37):
I don't even think they're gonna get we get out
of this series.
Speaker 7 (53:40):
I really I will.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
That were not for off gim always because go ahead, Bernie,
when it's winner, go home.
Speaker 17 (53:48):
And all you have to do is prepare for one
team in the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (53:51):
It's not like you're.
Speaker 18 (53:52):
Playing Denver one night and then you're in Milwaukee the
next night.
Speaker 7 (53:55):
Then you're going down to Miami.
Speaker 17 (53:56):
When you prepare for one team, then you see the
cream right to the top, and then you see what
the coaching is all about. And the Lakers don't have either.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
Sorry, all right, thanks Jim, all good stuff tonight. I
appreciate you.
Speaker 7 (54:09):
Ben.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
Steve in Kansas City is never shy. What do you
got forced tonight, Steve?
Speaker 16 (54:15):
Oh, Bernie, what a dime man?
Speaker 7 (54:17):
They go. We got a lot a lot.
Speaker 14 (54:18):
Of stuff here that the Lakers.
Speaker 7 (54:20):
That was a shocker today.
Speaker 14 (54:23):
You know, it's it's the the NBA needs them badly.
You kind of you guys were kind of dancing around it,
you know.
Speaker 7 (54:32):
It's.
Speaker 14 (54:33):
Uh, their MVP is kind of a is kind of
an Avandrago type in Denver, and he's not very marketable
and and like you said, Lebron is sort of surly,
so they need they need Luca. Now we'll see whether
the referees bend or backs over to help them out.
They made the Lakers may maybe beyond beyond help at
(54:55):
this point.
Speaker 19 (54:56):
And uh uh.
Speaker 14 (54:58):
And about Caitlin, she he's always getting slided because she's
she she disrupts the business model. That's why she always
gets She always gets the short trip. Because they were
they were very happy, I think, losing all that money
and just kind of accepting what they get. And now
(55:21):
Caitlin is lifted up the entire league and they have
to earn their supper, they have to work for their money,
and you know, a lot of a lot.
Speaker 16 (55:30):
Of people don't like that.
Speaker 14 (55:32):
A lot of people, a lot of people. And David
Stern was famous for when he heard the w NBA
was going on strike, he just said he was going
to cancel the league and that that was that.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
That was That was back in two thousand and one.
That's right, if you're going to be that stupid they
can't pay their own bills and you're going to go
on strike for more money anything else?
Speaker 14 (55:52):
Tonight, well on Shader. I love the reaction of the
New York fans calling up about do or you know
I would say about the Colorado situation, if you're the alumni,
just vote with your feet and walk out. When Shadur
was getting his number retired, I love Travis Hunter. I
(56:13):
think he should have gotten this number retired, but the alumni,
I don't think Dion is gonna be much for Colorado
very very much longer. I don't think after after his
after his kids get out of there. I don't feel
like that's gonna be that's gonna be going on.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
Very just gave a.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
Ton of money. They just gave him to money, a
ton of money. So we'll we'll see listen. Always appreciated, Stevie.

Speaker 19 (58:04):
Hey, Bernie, You're the only show I listened to, and
I'm being very sincere. You have a great knowledge of sports,
believe me.
Speaker 2 (58:13):
Thank you for the kind words.
Speaker 19 (58:14):
I would like to chime in on the Steelers once
again problem at the quarterback position. I am so surprised
that nobody has mentioned one person, and that person is
former GM of the Steelers, Kevin Colbert. Let me tell
you what this guy did over the years in terms
(58:36):
of watching those number one draft picks. Let's go to
two thousand and eight, and I'm sure you remember this
quarterback two thousand and eight, Dennis Dixon.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
The Steelers a lot of Oregon. Yeah, I saw him
playing person actually when they played.
Speaker 19 (58:50):
Go ahead, there you go. They took a flyer on
him at the fifth round because he tore up his
acl back in two thousand and seven. Okay, how did
that go? He crashed and burned. Let's go to twenty thirteen,
Kevin Colbert. Fourth round, Landry Jones crashed and burned. Let's
(59:12):
go to two thousand and eighteen. Now, now they took
Mason Rudolph. At least this skuy is still in the NFL.
My thing with Kevin Colbert is he basically made horrible decisions,
especially at the quarterback position, and it basically set back
the Steelers. And what the Steelers assumed that they need
(59:35):
is Rogers. Hell no, they blew it with Kevin Colbert.
Colbert was there from two thousand all the way to
twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
You know what saved us, but you know what saved us?
But they won two Super Bowls during that tenure. And
I'm not disputing anything you're saying in terms of drafting
a Reid option only quarterback out of Oregon and some
of the things obviously here well versed on this. But
because over his tutelage, they won two Super Bowls, so
that saved his buck. I just gotta be fair about that,
(01:00:06):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 19 (01:00:07):
And let's not forget the big miss with Ken Picket.
Kevin Colbert assumed that since he saw Ken Picket on
a daily basis, because Ken Pickett would use the Steelers
facility since he played for the Pitt Panthers, Kevin Colbert
thought he was the next coming of Dan Marino, even
(01:00:28):
though Ken Picket broke many of Dan Marino's collegiate records
over at Pitt. Kevin Colbert thought, Hey, this guy is
going to be better than Dan Marino. And look what happened.
He crashed and burned. And let me tell you some
of the other draft picks at the that Kevin Colbert made.
Twenty thirteen. I'm pretty sure you remember this middle linebacker
(01:00:52):
Jarvis Jones out of Georgia. He was a highly touted
outside linebacker. Kevin Colbert took him even though Jarvis Jones
had a spinal stenosis problem. Unbelievable. And Artie Burns in
twenty sixteen and Terral Edmunds in twenty eighteen, and let's
(01:01:14):
not forget Devin Bush in twenty nineteen, giving up a
number one pick for Devin Bush who couldn't even play
in this league. My thing with Pittsburgh is this, they
need to go in a different direction. I would not
draft a quarterback this year's not.
Speaker 2 (01:01:32):
I would not drafts at twenty one. I am with you.
Speaker 19 (01:01:36):
I would not draft a quarterback in the first round
nor in the third round. What I would do, Bernie,
is if I were GM of the Steelers, I would
definitely trade out of the twenty first pick and trade
it with an NFC team such as the Rams, and
get that second round pick for this year's draft, because
(01:01:58):
the Steelers need to address their pres He needs at
defensive end, corner back, quarterback, running back, and another free safety.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
All right, pal, thanks so much, a lot of good knowledge,
or I got to get to all the other calls.
Do not do not be a stranger, Foster, Alan and
Saint Louis John just.
Speaker 20 (01:02:18):
Welcome and Alan, Well, good morning, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
How are you doing well, sir?
Speaker 20 (01:02:22):
How are you I'm doing well. First, I'm gonna stove
with the Tennessee player. First, Yes, sir, I think he
was a victim of bad advice. You know, he decided,
he decided to try to pull a power play at Tennessee,
didn't fall for it. I well said, if this was
about money, why do you go to u z L
A who's not able to pay any of their coaches money?
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
Well, the only First of all, he's from southern California,
the only reason. But put to your point, because it's
really kind of a rhetorical question. No one else wants him.
There's no demand for this guy. He could sit there
and say, how come the Duke quarterbacks getting formed? And
I'm not well, you know, people hell on ice war.
Looks like they're both out of luck.
Speaker 20 (01:03:04):
Yeah, they were, they were in demand. As far as
the Lakers are concern, I'm not not sure.
Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
You know.
Speaker 20 (01:03:11):
I still say whatever they do this year is a
plus because unless they if they lose this round, it
won't be But let's face it, this Lucal deal was
made for the future. So if the Lakers conference finals,
it'll be good. But if they lose this round, I
won't be surprised. And as far as Snor Sanders getting
(01:03:34):
his jersey retired, I'm not sure about that. I think
that was more to a pass dad, but I don't
think his I don't think Dion asked for the jersey retired.
You know, sometimes people think Dion is making all these
power plays and sometimes not. You know, I think they
gave this big contract and now you know, since they
(01:03:54):
retired Travis Hunter's jersey, I think to doors jerseys, I
could throw him. Okay, good?
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Oh yeah, real quick, go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 20 (01:04:05):
Kaylen Clark, I'm going to ask you a couple of questions.
Did they WNB have private jets last before.
Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
Last season, Caitlin Clark did that?
Speaker 20 (01:04:16):
Did WNB have a new TV contract?
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
No? It would oh that she helped a lot of
among others, but yes, now they got How many w
NV players did you see on commercials before Kitlyn Clark?
Hardly any and you couldn't name them or remember him.
But no, you bring up some excellent points. A and
I appreciate the call it which I had more time.
I just want to get to everybody, and I dope
(01:04:41):
be a stranger coming up top of the hour. I'm
gonna bring my receipts. This is just silliness. Let's give
credit where credit's due. Come on now, I mean you
got you got a transcendent human beings staring me in
the face, and all they want to do is smack
her down. And it's getting to be ridiculous in my
humble opinion. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please term
(01:05:02):
your hymnals to page twelve fifty two as we welcome
in Jerome from South Carolina and Jerome. I'm sure you've
got a mouthful.
Speaker 15 (01:05:11):
Tonight to WNBA.
Speaker 16 (01:05:16):
Don't waste my time. Okay, fifty million dollars. Who do
you know goes into business to lose money?
Speaker 18 (01:05:22):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
Now, come on that damn drel.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
You run for president Jerome. You got my vote? Just
down that alone I have. Yeah, go ahead, go demand's
on a row. Forget it, it's rolling. You didn't give
up when the germs attack pro Harbor. Go ahead?
Speaker 21 (01:05:40):
Who does that?
Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
Who does the WNBA does that?
Speaker 7 (01:05:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
No, you listen, you're not you are not wrong. Don't
please don't get me started. Please don't get me started.
Speaker 16 (01:05:50):
So thank you Adam Silber for making great business decisions
like that. Anyway, as far as Cailen Clark. Come on, man,
come on, I'm not interested in the W I'm just
talking about that today.
Speaker 7 (01:06:03):
Man, I'm not introduced.
Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
Move on, I want to cause up here for what
you got to say about Nico or Shador or the
Lakers and Clippers. Let's hear about that or Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 16 (01:06:12):
Hey, look I was I went against him. Now when
when I saw them going to Columbus and I saw
all that, Cole said them Tennessee boys ain't gonna be
able to handle that.
Speaker 22 (01:06:22):
Man.
Speaker 16 (01:06:23):
I'm telling you that they're just not gonna handle it.
And now he's running back.
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
To southern California.
Speaker 16 (01:06:29):
Okay, let's see what he does at U C.
Speaker 19 (01:06:31):
L A.
Speaker 16 (01:06:32):
And what is you just gonna be like? The story's
not over you. Let's see what happens.
Speaker 5 (01:06:37):
Hey.
Speaker 16 (01:06:38):
And as far as Shador, come on, man, getting you
a number retired? Who kids?
Speaker 21 (01:06:44):
Anybody?
Speaker 16 (01:06:45):
Anybody get the number that b yu bust and.
Speaker 7 (01:06:47):
Rent over him?
Speaker 6 (01:06:48):
And the Bowl game?
Speaker 1 (01:06:52):
You do you?
Speaker 21 (01:06:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
Rack them. I'm just just good stuff, boy, man, this
is good stuff.
Speaker 16 (01:06:59):
Okay, that's on our guns you damn all right?
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Well, listen, we always look forward to hearing from you
all the callers are great. Drum has been a regular though.
All right, it's kidding men, We're gonna have to retire
Drum's number. I don't know whose number is, but we'll
have to retire it. Maybe some days. Emtton Washington, where
you have been. You show up every every few weeks.
Speaker 23 (01:07:16):
What do you got for us today, man, Bernie Frado,
There's a lot to talk about tonight.
Speaker 6 (01:07:21):
Man, I just want to say.
Speaker 23 (01:07:22):
Before I get to the point, some mighty mark. This
man is killing it tonight. The pause, the laughter, keep cooking, man.
But I'll start with Caitlyn Clark. Now, I think that
this is a disgrace of a move not being in
the top one hundred. I mean, this woman has changed
the sport. I mean there's a bunch of casual fans
who didn't he like, I know, people didn't watch the
NBA and even like basketball. Talking about Caitlyn Clark like,
(01:07:43):
she has so much influence on today's sporting world, and
you know, face you want to say about her talent.
Speaker 15 (01:07:48):
You know, I've heard a Fox.
Speaker 6 (01:07:49):
Sports radio hoster too, you know, kind.
Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
Of kind of bash that.
Speaker 23 (01:07:52):
But the talent aside, Well, what's what's to bash?
Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
She only broke about a million records.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
I know, I know, I'm just saying, say one thing,
isn't it?
Speaker 23 (01:08:01):
Okay, go ahead and all.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
I respect everybody on our airways. But there are objective
truths and there are personal feelings, and all too often
people interject their personal feelings of rooting interests or what
they wish what happened versus what reality is. Who's credibility
when that happens? Continue?
Speaker 23 (01:08:19):
Yeah, one hundred percent, because when you're like looking at
a story like that, you have to be as transparent
as possible and talk about what you're seeing on the court,
not like, yeah, I get that we may not like
some athletes, but you've got to be real about it.
So Shador Sanders and Travis Hunter getting their number retired,
now I think that Shador I don't really think that
like he deserved it.
Speaker 24 (01:08:38):
But what I will say is, like.
Speaker 23 (01:08:40):
Colorado doesn't have like the best football class. Like you
look at guys like Michael Westbrook, like Philip Lindsay also
came out of there, guys like that a Vienna Court.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Bill Stewart, Mike Britch, Sad Brown.
Speaker 23 (01:08:51):
Yet of guys I mean with Sean salam you ever
shawt Salon that that that's probably like, yeah, that's that's
the name.
Speaker 2 (01:08:59):
Now his number was ret but yeah, your Sanders, he
was thirteen and twelve. That's nothing to do with this
last name. He was thirteen and twelve. I love what
Jerope said, would you get that truck that BYU license
plate that ran overs?
Speaker 23 (01:09:11):
But yeah, yeah man, that that. I mean, he's kind
of right because in a way I feel like it's
just one of those things where it's just not too much,
like you want to get his number retired to like
Alabama or Ohio State, and Travis hunder completely deserves man.
I mean, this is a dude who is a generational talent.
I mean if he fought in the NFL, oh well,
like what he's done in college has been great.
Speaker 9 (01:09:32):
I'm in the cornerback position, like it's great.
Speaker 6 (01:09:35):
You know, you never see that.
Speaker 23 (01:09:36):
You haven't seen anyone at that level. So what we'll
all go next is the whole Steeler thing that the
dude was talking about earlier, and then I'll let you go.
Burnie said, I got some other callers to get to
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 11 (01:09:46):
I think that you can't do that.
Speaker 25 (01:09:48):
That is a guy that would.
Speaker 6 (01:09:50):
Mess up your locker room.
Speaker 23 (01:09:51):
I think if you're the Steelers, like you're kind of
in a bad situation because you procrastinated this quarterback positions
for super long. Like they were guys out there, Jameis Winston,
Joe Flacco, Ryan Tannehill. I believe he's still out there,
Like you could have brought back Russell for another year
over Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
I think they're still gonna probably. Yeah, listen, great stuff,
em and I I gotta get to all these callers.
Don't be a stranger. Jump back in next week. We
do this every week. Pittsburgh is going to figure this out.
I trust their culture and their DNA. There is no timetable.
It's artificial. Mike the leper con in Boston Joints just
walkome too, The Bernie Frattle Show.
Speaker 22 (01:10:30):
Long time listen, first time color.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
Welcome in, Mike, is that blee?
Speaker 7 (01:10:40):
Listen?
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
You're on the air.
Speaker 26 (01:10:42):
I know that.
Speaker 22 (01:10:43):
But can you hear me?
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
Yeah, we can hear you. We got four topics. I
got a bunch of callers, big fellow, So let's jump
to it.
Speaker 22 (01:10:49):
All right, all right, I'm going to Lexington today. There
was a brilliant parade there. They had the shots harder
on the world. And I'm going to the Celtics tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
It should be That's fantastic. I appreciate you checking in there.
Speaker 18 (01:11:07):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
Listen, I I we we we have four topics. I
want to hear from you. I want again, but I've
got to get to the callers. We have some some
very polarizing topics tonight, and I do want to hear
from me again. Call in earlier next week, so we'll
give you some time to have a little bit more latitude.
Bryce in Texas joins us. Welcome back in Bryce, Okay,
(01:11:32):
long time, no talk. Go ahead, buddy, to hear from him.
Speaker 6 (01:11:36):
I'm just gonna mention a couple of things. One, I
think Nico is going to get exactly what his name
means in Serbian, his name literally.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
Means And the earlier caller, I think I might have
been JERNALM said he got some bad advice, but he
took it. Go ahead you. I don't think you're wrong.
It's the thing I'm not gonna end.
Speaker 6 (01:11:55):
Well you mentioned it, or you will work what people
are willing to pay you. Nobody out to pay him.
And the last person to be giving judgment advice is
Urban Myers. So while he's opening his mouth, I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Yeah, I don't think screwed Urban. They'll find another guy.
Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (01:12:13):
So the next thing, real quick is standards getting his
number retired. I go ahead, fully, fully support retired somebody's
name into the Hall of Fame. And because of that,
general Booty from Oklahoma needs to have his number retired.
Speaker 7 (01:12:29):
Next, just for name purposes only.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
Okay, anything anything on Caitlyn Clark or the Lakers Clippers.
Speaker 6 (01:12:38):
I mean, Kaitlyn Clark is a tragedy. That's really all
I can say about that. As far as the Lakers
and the Clippers, it's the lane of broken toys. That's
whoever can stay healthier longer, I think comes on top there.
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
Hey, good stuff, good stuff, Brice, appreciate you. Squeeze one
more in here. Manuel and Guardiana, welcome in, Buddy.
Speaker 26 (01:12:57):
How are you?
Speaker 20 (01:12:58):
Oh?
Speaker 21 (01:13:00):
Oh with magic?
Speaker 15 (01:13:02):
You know, listen into.
Speaker 21 (01:13:05):
Bernie Bradoh why Bernie my man and a polarizing topics. Indeed,
today Nico watch mccollege talk about overplaying your hands. You know,
you're with a powerhouse and tennan team. You're going to
go somewhere that hasn't.
Speaker 15 (01:13:24):
Sniffed in FCS Bowl games since Bob Toledo, Kde McNown
and JJ Stokes were.
Speaker 7 (01:13:31):
In the building.
Speaker 11 (01:13:32):
I mean, I'm a UCLA fan, and I know it's
not a football school at all. It's fairly a basketball
school nowadays.
Speaker 8 (01:13:39):
Oh you didn't know about.
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
One hundred and eighteenth ranked offense last year? Man, Well,
they had to get you excited.
Speaker 15 (01:13:45):
Even though that's not mccohan's fault.
Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
No, I know, you know I'm talking about football.
Speaker 9 (01:13:50):
No, No, I know I know what you're talking about.
Speaker 11 (01:13:53):
And I know they got the old running back that
did some big things as the head coach. Now, but
this guy, I mean, I don't know what he was thinking.
I'm going to piggyback on the last caller. I mean,
you got to know your word. You know, you're shitting
here playing the greed game, trying to say it's not
about money where we all know damn well, it was
(01:14:13):
about the money.
Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
Of course they said it. They said they asked for
four million because two point four wasn't enough.
Speaker 11 (01:14:21):
And he's not even need to get a million and
a half from UCLA after taxis it's gonna be about
a half meal. So, I mean, that was just a
stupid play on his car.
Speaker 21 (01:14:31):
Plus like I said, I mean, Ucla hasn't been worth anything.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
Hey Manuel, Hey man, Well I'm gonna call an audible.
Can you stay on hold. I want to get the
rest of your call. We've got Nathan in Texas, Kevin
and Houston, Kylin Vegas, and Andrew Bakersfield. I don't want
to cut anybody short tonight, So if we go past
one am Pacific time, if you're willing to hang on hold,
I'm getting all of you. Okay, and hell, what the
(01:14:59):
hell Mike the leperkround you want to call back and
redeem yourself. We'll get to the topics. But Manuel, you
have on hold. We're gonna pick up where we left off. Nathan, Kevin, Kyle,
and Andrew. You are up next. The Midnight Hour continues.
Keep It Locks The Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

and Obie. We're getting to all of you now. We're
gonna spill into the one am hour Pacific time. No problem,
you wait on hold, we're getting to you. You still
want to dial in tonight. We got a lot of
polarizing topics. I don't want anybody turned away, so I'm
calling an audible That's what we're gonna do. So hang tight,

We resume with the legend Manuell Man. Well, thanks for
(01:16:26):
hanging on. Pick up where your left off, buddy.
Speaker 16 (01:16:29):
No problem, Bernie, A you know what?
Speaker 11 (01:16:31):
So on the Sanders Singe.
Speaker 15 (01:16:33):
I mean it's just appeasing Deon. I mean, when you
don't have Garrian Hagen retired, when you don't have Slash,
Cordell Stewart, Eric b Enemy, none of those numbers retired
from when Colorado was a true powerhouse. It's just a
travesty man. As far as the Kitlyn Clark thing, you
can't spell WNBA without the red ink until Caitlyn Clark
(01:16:57):
got here. She's about the only money maker that the
WNBA has ever had, so to say, she's not one
of the top one hundred influential appoletes, it's just stupid. Lastly,
I'm with.
Speaker 5 (01:17:11):
You, Bernie.
Speaker 6 (01:17:12):
The Lakers are in real trouble.
Speaker 15 (01:17:14):
Julius Randall is a lunch pail guy that we knew,
We knew him well. He's been pissed since the Lakers
jennisoned him because of the bag jeans, and he's gonna
bring it all.
Speaker 11 (01:17:28):
You know, you got Rudy Gobert, you got hand man.
This squad can.
Speaker 15 (01:17:33):
Give them fits because Luca on Chit you can't spell
Don Chicic without the D and he has no ded.
So the Lakers better do something, and they better do
something bad.
Speaker 27 (01:17:45):
Love you, Bernie, Hey, hey, real quickly, you're on a roll.
Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
Anything on Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 15 (01:17:50):
You know where I'm at with Aaron Rodgers. Man, it's
like the old black Belt theater. The saga continues.
Speaker 11 (01:17:57):
I mean, this guy just needs to get lost.
Speaker 22 (01:17:59):
Man.
Speaker 11 (01:17:59):
We all know he's making a place for Minnesota.
Speaker 15 (01:18:03):
That's who he wants to play for.
Speaker 7 (01:18:05):
But I like the Steelers.
Speaker 11 (01:18:07):
Man, play hardball with him, don't.
Speaker 15 (01:18:10):
Give in, and if anything, pay him legs. If he
wants to be a Steeler, then let him take less money.
Speaker 9 (01:18:17):
That's what my stance is.
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
All right, great stuff, man, well appreciate it. And again
we're gonna spill into the one am hour, So Nathan,
if you can please hand tight Kevin saying to you,
Kyle Andrew Obie in Los Angeles. We're gonna get to
all of you. You know the topics, Nico versus Tennessee,
who's sighed you on? Who's going to have the last word?
Shod Or Sanders thirteen and twelve. We're not talking about
(01:18:42):
him because it's his last name. We're talking about if
he's thirteen and twelve, okay, as a starter, just my opinion.
Caitlyn Clark believe me. I'm gonna bring some receipts on
the incredible, incredible legacy and influence that Kate and Clark
has had on basketball. He plays the game differently, all right.
(01:19:02):
You ever seen a player who consistently takes and makes
three you know, Logo threes broke dozens of records in
college and in the pros. Geno Orima has never taken
back what he said, to the best of my knowledge,
just absolutely ridiculous. And think about Aaron Glenn. He had
no interest in the Aaron Rodgers business and he can't
really blame him. Coming up later in the show, I'm
(01:19:24):
going to bring receipts on that. If anything, the way
Aaron Rodgers has handled this aftermath, specifically Thursday's interview with
Pat McAfee proved the Jets made the right decision. And
you're what Manwell said about the Vikings and Rogers denies it. Okay, okay,
the guy makes my teeth Itch Hall of Fame quarterback,
But man, is he just an incredible load in the shorts.
(01:19:46):
All right again, Nathan, Kevin, Kyle, Andrew Obie and now
Dave in Phoenix, We're getting to Alia. Hang tight, you listen,
to the Bernie Frattle Show. That Men at Hour continues
here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 26 (01:20:00):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):

are continuing on with the midnight hour tonight. We're calling audible.
I don't want anybody turned away. We resume. Nathan in
Fort Worth, Texas joins us. Thanks for hanging on, Nathan.
What have you got for us tonight?
Speaker 25 (01:21:24):
Hey man, I really appreciate you having me on, and
I appreciate you like I'm hanging out one hundred percent.
I love listening to your show, and uh, I've called
a couple of times and you've always been very respectful.
Speaker 7 (01:21:36):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:37):
With that, Thank you, Thank you.
Speaker 25 (01:21:39):
The first thing I want to talk about, without a
doubt is the Lakers, and being from Dallas, I can
imagine you understand why I am rooting for the Lakers unequivocally.
I think it would be cathartic as anything could ever be.
(01:22:02):
If the Lakers pull out the win this year, that
would be just my uh, you know, my saving grace.
I guess you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:22:15):
It would be redemption is what you're really saying, because
they know how you love. Luca was in Dallas.
Speaker 26 (01:22:21):
And so.
Speaker 25 (01:22:24):
It's like, I'm not a not a big fan of
the La Lakers. I don't think anybody in Dallas really
is a fan of the Lakers. But I think a
lot of us are rooting for the Lakers because of
everything that went on, you know what I'm saying. And
I think it would be phenomenal. Now, this this was
(01:22:46):
a bummer loss. But if they could pull through, and
they could make it all the way through, I think
that would be very cathartic. I think it would be karma,
like just working in action.
Speaker 7 (01:22:57):
Phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
All Right, anything on nucash door or Caitlin Clark?
Speaker 25 (01:23:01):
Okay, so, uh.
Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
Wait is it?
Speaker 25 (01:23:05):
Nuka is a Nico?
Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
What did I say?
Speaker 7 (01:23:08):
Did I?
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
Did I miss mush mouth at it's Nico? And I
promise go ahead?
Speaker 25 (01:23:14):
Okay, all right, all right, all right, I was just
all right curious. It's I feel like, and it's kind
of a bummer because we already know that it's gonna
happen this way. People are uh people hold out in
the NFL all the time, and it's we knew it's
probably gonna end up happening in the uh in the
collegiate as well. It's it's a bummer because man, he
(01:23:38):
had a payday from hell for sure, and now from
what I'm hearing, it's it's less than a quarter of it.
And it's like, man, if you this is where I'm
not saying necessarily he's greedy, but it does seem a
little you know, it's it's it's greed, is hey, you
can hold out forever or you can get paid as
(01:24:01):
a as a kid in college, I.
Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
Think his priorities are screwed up. He's twenty years old,
he makes one for Tennessee, enters the draft the following year,
his best degree ahead of him. A right, I want
to get to all the cars. But do you have
anything on shoor or k okay.
Speaker 25 (01:24:16):
So shoudor really real quick? The last thing I'm gonna say,
should or Sanders?
Speaker 18 (01:24:22):
I do?
Speaker 25 (01:24:23):
I do believe like I being a Dallas fans, Deion
Sander has always been a uh, you know, a for
the show, for the for the Pompton's circumcerns and everything
about it. And he's always been a He's a showman.
That's one of the reasons we love him at there's
no disrespectful about that, and I would say that that
(01:24:45):
would me personally. My idea of my opinion is if
we just left it with Travis, it probably would have
been fine. Uh, but we're doing shood Or as well
because it's the sun.
Speaker 5 (01:25:00):
You see what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:25:01):
Fair enough, Then I appreciate your call, Nathan, You're always welcome. Look, hell,
at that rate, why not bring Shiloh Sanders in as well?
Who'd even be drafted in the NFL. But look, I
appreciate everybody's opinion on this, and listen, Dion is a showman,
and let's not let's not disavow what he's done at Colorado.
You talk about making the money and putting them on
(01:25:21):
the map. We'll see how good they are this year.
Maybe they'll win a Bowl game, maybe they'll you know,
contend for the Big Trouble. I don't know. By the
way I said, Nukar, I think I was conflating Luca
and Nico because we were talking. But once again, folks,
so I have not been drinking. Stay calm, everybody. Kevin
and Houston joined us. Welcome into the Bernie Frattle Show.
Speaker 24 (01:25:40):
Bernie, What's going on, my man, how are you doing tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Doing well, sir? Thanks for checking in.
Speaker 28 (01:25:44):
Well, good le.
Speaker 24 (01:25:46):
You might not have been drinking, but I have, so
we're good to go.
Speaker 5 (01:25:48):
There, we'll.
Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Fair enough. You could take over the show. Go ahead.
Speaker 24 (01:25:54):
Hey, curious, So how does Dion have the authority to
retire the number? It just seems odd.
Speaker 2 (01:26:01):
I mean, well, I'm not one hundred percent sure that myself,
so I can't give an intelligent answer, but I do
know that it's legitimate and that it is apparently in
his purview to do that, So that's all I know.
Speaker 24 (01:26:14):
Yeah, it's just been kind of odd to hear the
story and then you kind of think deeper and you're like, well,
how how does he have the authority to do that?
There's I don't know of any other coach that's just said, hey,
you know what, we're gonna We're gonna retire this number.
Speaker 5 (01:26:27):
It just it seems odd.
Speaker 24 (01:26:28):
But I don't know what kind of pull he has there.
But yeah, I'm sure he's going to be right up
there and remembered along with college grades like Doug Flutie, Right, Yeah, no,
not close.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
Fluty actually had a pretty good career in the NFL.
And even in the Canadian Football League. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
absolutely go ahead.
Speaker 24 (01:26:48):
Oh yeah, I guess. Uh, Lebron just looked old tonight.
The Wolves are deep and finally healthy, so it's time
to look out La, I think. But the NBA, you know,
they definitely want La in there.
Speaker 28 (01:27:01):
They they give.
Speaker 24 (01:27:05):
La didn't get the first fall called against them until
midway through the second so that was kind of a
kind of wild to see. So you kind of know
the NBA, they definitely want their stars in there, and
you know you understand that. But sure, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
So all right, anything on Caitlin or.
Speaker 24 (01:27:23):
I mean, you know, I watch about as much w
NBA as the next guy, which is about none. But
I know, I know she alone accounted for like thirty
percent of their money last year that that came in.
So with the money they don't have, I don't understand
how she's not.
Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
Yeah, I mean to imply that she's not one of
the top one hundred most influential athletes.
Speaker 14 (01:27:49):
Completely ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:27:50):
Completely you can't.
Speaker 24 (01:27:53):
You can't turn on the TV without seeing her, you know.
So it's it's that's that's pretty wild.
Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
Even more so this year. I appreciate you. Kevin, thank
you for hanging on. I want to get to all
the callers. Kyle and Vegas joins us a regular. Cayle,
welcome back in.
Speaker 7 (01:28:08):
Up, Uncle Bernie.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Nice to hear from you. Thanks for having ontal.
Speaker 9 (01:28:12):
I'll see the show got moved man. I was looking
forward to the Friday show and didn't hear me yesterday,
so I guess I had to call in on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:28:20):
But listen, I'm so glad I was wondering where you were.
I made a decision of personal decision. It was one
hundred percent my decision after the Super Bowl. I can't,
you know, climb two mountains at the same time, and
there are a lot of family events that I can't till. Anyway,
let's get let's get to your call. I'm glad you're
with us on Saturday night, and I hope you're a
regular on Saturday.
Speaker 7 (01:28:42):
Listen.
Speaker 9 (01:28:42):
I'll try to be as much as possible.
Speaker 7 (01:28:44):
Brother. Let's start.
Speaker 9 (01:28:45):
Let's start with the Lakers, the Jerry Otter Home, and
the new Lebond Goat. If they don't get through, you know,
we're just going to keep it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Realshshay, Truth, the Wolves.
Speaker 9 (01:29:00):
You got the younger legs with the Timberwolves. They're gonna
outplay them, They're gonna outpace them, They're gonna spread the
floor on them. The Lakers have no real insought presidents,
so you're gonna get oberto getting some double doubles. You're
gonna have a slew of players that are just gonna
be tired. And then the media will say, well, Harden
(01:29:20):
didn't have help, and then double blame it on Luca. Nope,
not playing defense. But if they win, it'll be look
how great the Lakers are when Luca added to the mix.
Luca's gonna get burnt out by the by these younger
pressure point guards on the West Coast.
Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
Even though seeing the same thing you are, Kyle, everything
you said, the spacing to the youth of the roster composition,
I'm seeing the same thing you are. I really am.
Speaker 22 (01:29:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:29:43):
So the the Taylor Cork thing one hundred percent influential,
one hundred percent influential. Heck, she got me to watch
the w NBA and I ain't really never watched this.
I've never sat down to really watched the game before her.
And to say that she's not doing something that any
other person hasn't done already would be mediocre, to say
(01:30:07):
the least. But she's above and beyond what you want
and what you expect from an athlete. Yet, let alone
a young woman, especially in today's in today's worldview of
what young women are. She embodies the presence of greatness.
She has the skill set to be dominant. She's doing
things that none of these other young ladies were doing beforehand.
(01:30:29):
And now they're trying to rot her coattail to say
that they're better than the NBA, which Tayler Clark love
her to desk you not to play twenty years to
get these guys into a even pool because they're still
losing money. No matter how you look at, the viewership
is never going to be there unless you get more
(01:30:50):
young women like her. So to say that she's not
influential is beyond crazy. Nico thus and then Aaron Rodgers.
So Nico bro Tennessee has all the money in the world.
If you just want to say what you need to
say and did what you need to do, you haven't
(01:31:11):
done anything. Your high school career does not dictate what
you get paid when you go to college. Show some
work first, be out there doing your thing. You doing
This only hurts you going forward. When you do get drafted,
teams are going to look at you like, Okay, if
we don't sign him to what the number that he wants,
we're not going to get disciple polity. Then Aaron Rodgers
(01:31:33):
Pills just gonna make some more commercials. We like to
better as a commercial maker, do some podcast interviews. Brother,
it's time to retire the number. The number twelve is
not synonymous to you as synonymous to the one guy
TD with seven rooms. So with that, Vernon, I love you, man,
I love the show. Keep up all the great hard work, brother.
Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
I appreciate that a lot. Kyle, and I'm so glad
you found us on on Saturday Night cover a lot
of good ground. Andrew and Kersfield also a regular welcome
back in Andrew, what do you got for us tonight?
Speaker 28 (01:32:04):
What's up? I didn't think I had much to say,
but I wanted to call in and support But all right,
the Lakers to me, I think Lebron all right, Luca
had sixteen points in the first quarter and Lebron had
I think zero zero shots, So I think Lebron, if
he has to it's the playoffs, he should dribble up
(01:32:26):
if he has to, and he should kind of take control.
Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
And when that's reality, do you expect the Lakers to
recover or they in genuine trouble?
Speaker 28 (01:32:36):
No, it's only one game, so okay, fair enough.
Speaker 2 (01:32:39):
Let's move on. And that's good enough for me. Anything
that Nico, Caitlin or should Sanders.
Speaker 28 (01:32:44):
Okay, first, Aaron Rodgers, all right. I tend to think
like Aaron Glenn made a bad decision. I tend to
think with Joe Flatto on the Browns, like why did
they trade him after he got to the playoffs? You
know what I'm saying. And Russell Wilson, why did he
get traded to the Giants? And then lastly, so I'm on,
(01:33:09):
I'm on Aaron Rodgers' side right now. Ok yeah, I
think he's got at least a year left in him.
Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
I hope he plays this year. I do, all right.
I just get the feeling Andrew that he does not
want it to end the way it ended last year.
That's why I think he'll end up with Pittsburgh. It's
just an.
Speaker 28 (01:33:29):
Opinion, yeah, Okay, Now, honestly, I'm blind. I want you
to tell me why is Caitlin Kark Clark so popular.
I mean other than the fact that she shoots the
ball deep. I mean she's white. Is because she's white.
I mean, what's what's the deal? What colors are there?
(01:33:49):
How well, first of all.
Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
First of all, here's the bottom line. She produced his
results and she played. I appreciate you checking in to Andrew,
and later in the show, I'm gonna give him more
in depth dissertation on what Caitlin Clark does. She puts
eyeballs and puts asses in seats, and I'm gonna give
you the numbers. And because she shoots threes, logo threes
(01:34:13):
and makes them all the time. She took IOWA, who's
a nothing program, and got up to the finals both years.
She took the Indiana Fever who hadn't been in the playoffs,
got them in the playoffs. Everything she's done, she steps
on the court, she has just that aura that causes
people because of the results she produces. She produces results
(01:34:36):
and across multiple levels, not just with the performance on
the floor. And I'm going to get to all that.
I think you asked some very good questions Obi in
Los Angeles, Obi, thanks so much for your patience checking in.
You're You're on the Bernie Frattle showing evening.
Speaker 12 (01:34:53):
I wanted to say, first of all that you do
a great job, and thank you for being here and
do a great job. Thank you, sir, and thank you
for taking my call. As far as Kaitlin Clark goes,
I believe that you have to consider the source. We
don't think of Time magazine knowing anything about sports, so
for them to not to leave her off is kind
of par for the course. I don't we all know
(01:35:14):
how great she is, and of course she's.
Speaker 5 (01:35:17):
Top the top one hundred.
Speaker 12 (01:35:18):
That's ridiculous. As far as theor Sandris goes, I'm going
to go I'm gonna play a little devil ado Kate
and say, look, uh, if you tire his number because
of his influence on the program, I agree with you
that it's it's a little bit of a reach, it's
a big reach, But I guess you're trying to honor
the fact that he brought a lot of eyes to
the program, and that's my that's my take on that.
(01:35:40):
But again, I agree with you that everybody's getting their
numbers retired now, so it's not even special anymore. As
far as the Lakers and the Clippers go, I think
the Clippers aren't bigger a bigger problem than the Lakers do,
because I think the Clippers everybody forgot how great the.
Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
Uh they showed that championship DNA Saturday, didn't they, Obie.
Speaker 12 (01:36:02):
When it mattered exactly. So I think that I think
that we all I think the Lakers on the Lakers,
everybody's going to we're all going on crazy because they
have their story. I think they'd be I think they'll
get through. I think in the next round they get
knocked out and I'll be back to them. So the
kid from Tennessee, I think the kid from Tennessee made
apig the state just like everybody else thinks. I think
(01:36:24):
that he's testing the market, and he's finding out the
market is and what it is, and it's a life
lesson for him, and hopefully he'll learn from this that
you know, just because people tell you you're great, that
the market doesn't necessarily see what you're great.
Speaker 2 (01:36:35):
All right, our standing perspectives. Don't be a stranger, Obie.
We do this every Saturday night. Let's say squeeze one
more in here, Dave and Phoenix. Now, Dave, I know
you know a thing or two about paying quarterbacks since
your school paid a kid twelve million has never taken
a snap yet. Division one cause football. But I digress, Steve.
Speaker 27 (01:36:54):
Yeah, And as you know, there's an interesting story there
with Larry Ellison of Oracle, the four richest person in
the world, who's eighty years old, and his fifth wife,
who's thirty three, is a Michigan grad. And that's why
Larry is now suddenly a big Michigan booster. And Michigan
got the great quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:37:12):
So twelve million dollars twelve million dollars, So that's going
to be a story to watch next year. All right,
let's let's stay on point here. We've got Eco, We've
got you Door, We've got Caitlin Clark, got Lakers, Clippers,
Aaron Rodgers take it away.
Speaker 7 (01:37:28):
All right, I'll go with two of those topics.
Speaker 27 (01:37:30):
I want to go to Nico. But first, I'm Caitlin Clark.
I'm a fan of Caitlin Clark, and I think of
all the things she's done, maybe the number one thing
to mention is that in her senior year at Iowa,
she actually got the women's final four to have higher
ratings than the men's final four for the first time. Ever,
and it's usually not even close.
Speaker 11 (01:37:51):
So I will say this.
Speaker 12 (01:37:54):
You know, we can talk about.
Speaker 27 (01:37:55):
Kaitlyn Clark for several hours, and there are a lot
of people who like her for all the wrong reasons,
and there are also some who like her or pretend
to like her for all the wrong reasons. And it's
very sad, I think, on both sides, on both extremes.
But anyway, as far as Nico.
Speaker 15 (01:38:15):
I will say this, he probably misjudged his value.
Speaker 27 (01:38:18):
He looked at the quarterback Mensa who left Tulane and
went to Duke for big money, and he thought, hey,
I'm better than that guy. Why am I only making
half as much? Well, it turns out maybe there's not
as much a market of a market for him as
he thought. But I also think he's receiving probably too
much negativity. I've read some real interesting columns from knowledgeable
(01:38:39):
people like Pat Forty and Greg Doyle, Chris Vanini, and
I've heard some discussions about other people in sports who
negotiate for more money. You could look at Bryce and
d Chambeau and other dolfers who go to that live
golf tour for huge money. You look at all the
coaches in college basketball college foot fall who changed schools
(01:39:01):
for big raises, and even a guy like Rhys Davis.
I guess he was offered a huge contract by Fox
and then he chose to stick with ESPN, and of
course they paid a lot of money to get him
to stay. So I guess if you're a golfer or
a coach, or even a broadcaster, there's not that much
hostility when you try to get more money, But when
you're a player, people don't like it.
Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
All right, I accept your opinion there and appreciate you
checking in as always, Dave, you pick your spots, don't
be a stranger. A right coming up, we're gonna wrap
it up. We will welcome in Mike the Leprechaun one

from Boston. Mike, take it away.
Speaker 22 (01:40:47):
Good morning, are on the air.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
Mike, good sir, Go ahead?
Speaker 22 (01:40:50):
Why did I have to be redeemed?
Speaker 2 (01:40:54):
Well, you're telling us about your trip to the Celtics game,
which I'm sure is wonderful. But we're trying to stay
on top pick with the four topics we can. We'd
like your opinion on that.
Speaker 22 (01:41:03):
I like how your show is all pretty much all
calls and it's very focused on sports. So anyway, Kit
and Talk is wonderful. I think she should have been
on the Olympic team fair enough, which is a game
and and and actually next year a new player will
overtake her page Becker's from Yukon.
Speaker 2 (01:41:21):
Yeah, that's a good point. That's like, yeah, good point.
Speaker 22 (01:41:25):
On the NBA, that Kippers Denver Nugget game was one
of the best games I've seen for a long, long
long time. To be honest, it was brilliant.
Speaker 7 (01:41:34):
It was the time.
Speaker 22 (01:41:36):
And I have I have a take about Rogers and
Aaron Rodgers is actually what's gonna happen. The Patriots are
gonna give away their fourth round pick and basically somehow,
finego Aaron Rodgers to come as the backup. So that's
that's my sery.
Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
I'm here, and they're gonna draft an offensive lineman, all right,
anything on Nico Tennessee, who's going to win that battle?
Speaker 27 (01:42:03):
Henny?
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
Yeah, I think you're right. I think you're right.
Speaker 22 (01:42:06):
I was I was the word I was the third
word caller on The Ben Aller Show, and the rookie
of the year. So anyways, you're.
Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
Always welcome on my show, Mike, you call anytime. All right.
We do this every Saturday night and have fun at
the sell the game, and we'll look forward to hear
from you again.
Speaker 7 (01:42:21):
Mike.
Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
That is Mike the Leprecaun, a very distinctive name. All right.
It brought up some good points, all right, Robin Orlando
wrap it up for us tonight on the midnight hour.
You got the last word.
Speaker 18 (01:42:33):
Hey, Bernie, I appreciate the latitude sneaking me in here late. Hey,
I'm gonna get on every one of your points in
a rapid fire, but real quick, if I can, to
the callers, man, every show on your network is unique
in their own way, and you're focused on sports and
discussing it, not some of the knucklehead things that you
get done on other shows. Nothing. Those shows aren't good,
they are.
Speaker 5 (01:42:53):
But I like that you stay focused on sports.
Speaker 1 (01:42:55):
So real quick on the.
Speaker 18 (01:42:57):
Uh on the Rogers situation, I'm deeler fan.
Speaker 20 (01:43:00):
Don't want them, don't need them.
Speaker 18 (01:43:02):
I think it's real simple. Draft the quarterback wherever you can,
you know, whoever you feel solid.
Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
Would you be okay with Sidor Sanders.
Speaker 18 (01:43:10):
In all seriousness, Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking Jackson Dart down.
Speaker 7 (01:43:18):
I think Dart.
Speaker 18 (01:43:19):
I'll take Tyler Shaw.
Speaker 7 (01:43:20):
You know it's gonna be developmental.
Speaker 18 (01:43:22):
Guy no matter who you grab. And I just don't
think the Steelers and Chador a good fit organization and player.
You know, I would go in and draft or not
draft the trade for for Kirk Cousin. Man, we have
sowar year. Yes, we got sowary cap space for this year.
Speaker 16 (01:43:42):
Next year.
Speaker 18 (01:43:43):
We got a Super Bowl ready defense. It's only going
to be ready for another year, two years at most.
Speaker 7 (01:43:48):
And I would do that.
Speaker 2 (01:43:49):
And then and you got two stud receivers, rob two
absolutely stud receivers that can genuinely stretch the field.
Speaker 18 (01:43:58):
I do like that.
Speaker 2 (01:43:59):
Actually, well yeah, I mean look, I listen, I run
hot and cold on Kirk Cousins. But he fits an
immediate need right now. And that's and I think that's
a fair Yeah.
Speaker 18 (01:44:10):
Go ahead, No, no, no, he's he's exactly what you need.
He's a character guy, he'll be good in the locker room.
And you've got good receivers.
Speaker 7 (01:44:17):
He's a pro man.
Speaker 18 (01:44:18):
So on the Kaitlin Clark subject in the wn B
A in general, I think it's an absolute joke that,
you know, the way she's been treated. I think the
w n b A needs to really embrace what they
have right now instead of talking about striking and things
like that. They're not a profitable league. I mean, they're
not even you know, maintaining you know, uh, you know,
(01:44:40):
level level playing field. So I think that needs to
go on. The retirement of the Jerseys, man, it's colorade.
They can do whatever they want to do it. It
does seem ridiculous, you know, but at the same time,
you know what this is what lesser programs do. Same
thing in the NBA that you know, players get numbers
retired that probably don't deserve it because of the you know,
(01:45:03):
the team that they played for, in the organization they're with.
Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
So all right, you're bringing up some excellent cover, a
lot of good ground. Appreciate you hanging on tonight, Rob
and bringing to some callers outstanding. Thanks so much for
taking the time to weigh in with your thoughts. And
now listen, I've been teasing this for a while, so
without further ado, let's talk about Caitlin Clark's influence period. Facts,
(01:45:29):
just the facts, the popularity of women's basketball over the
last year thanks to Caitlin Clark has been evident in
the following ways. One, Kaitlin Clark made the Indiana Fever.
Talk about the Indiana Fever more ab unfranchise who'd had
little to no success in one of the smallest markets.
Speaker 7 (01:45:51):
In the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:45:52):
Kaitlin Clark made the Fever the most watched team in
the WNBA by a mile by a slide in her
rookie year as the fourteen most watched NBA. Check that
WNBA games this season. What do they all have in common?
(01:46:12):
The fourteen most watched WNBA games, they included the Indiana Fever.
On top of that, Caitlin Clark no influence, huh. She
broke the record for most All Star votes for any
player in w NBA history in her rookie year. Put
that in your pipe and smoke at GINO Orima. In
(01:46:35):
early September, the Indiana Fever, Yeah, the team Caitlin Clark
plays for. They actually played in front of a TV
audience that included one point three million viewers in a
game against the Minnesota Lynx that was played at the
same time as a week one Friday night NFL game
between the Eagles and Packers. In Caitlin Clark's first ever
(01:46:59):
regular season finale against the Washington Mystics back on September nineteenth,
they drew a crowd of twenty thousand, seven and eleven
fans that sold out Capital One Arena, an NBA arena,
and set a new record for the highest attended WNBA
regular season contest. Kaylan Clark also drew a w NBA
(01:47:24):
record one point eight four million viewers to her first
playoff game against the Connecticut Sun three days later on
September twenty second, while at the same time going up
against a full NFL Sunday slate. She followed up with
another record audience two days later of two point six
million viewers for Game two of the playoffs against the
(01:47:50):
Connecticut Sun. Easy for me to say Kaitlin Clark's influence
on the popularity of women's basketball over the last year
is unmatched. But even after Kaitland Clark's fever season ended
the w NBA playoffs, what happened then? It went off
(01:48:13):
a cliff. The viewership went off a cliff. There was
a tremendous drop off in viewership because Caitlyn Clark wasn't
there anymore, and I believe it was. David Dennis Junior
said he's looking forward to that with Katelyn Clark being
out of the playoffs, so then we can see how
they could really do well. You saw how they did.
They dropped off a cliff there, Big Fella. The first
(01:48:33):
game between the Aces and Liberty, a rematch of last
year's WNBA Finals between two of the league's most popular
and successful teams, do an audience at nine hundred thousand.
That's only fifty percent less than the Fevers game one
against his son, and that was the finals. Meanwhile, in
women's college basketball, after Caitlin Clark played in the first
(01:48:56):
women's NCAA title game to get more viewers than the
men did, as an earlier as a caller earlier pointed
out the men's did back in twenty twenty four, the
sport also women's college basketball, so a steep decline in
ratings this year. So without Caitlin Clark in the tournament,
the broadcasts of Yukon versus Ecla and South Carolina versus
(01:49:18):
Texas averaged just three point nine million viewers for ESPN.
That was a sixty four percent decrease from the record
setting ten point eight million viewers in twenty twenty four
because Caitlin Clark was no longer there, So is she influential?
Speaker 22 (01:49:36):
You tell me.
Speaker 2 (01:49:38):
Now, what's going to be Caitlin Clark's legacy irrespective of
what Time magazine says. Real simple, here's Caitlin Clark's legacy.
She managed to captivate the broader sports fan, the casual
sports fan, even the non sports fan. You'd never seen
a player sell tickets like Caitlyn Clark home or on
(01:50:00):
the road. You've never seen a player driver ratings like
Kaitlyn Clark. You've never had a player come close to
bring this many eyeballs to women's college basketball. You don't
like caringet. You got a different agenda, and that's a
you problem. There are objective truths and there are personal feelings.
You get your personal feelings involved, you sound stupid and
(01:50:24):
look funny. Kaitlyn Clark simply played the game differently in
college and still does. We've never really seen a player
who consistently takes and makes logo threes, a player who
can face the floor like that. She can manipulate defenders,
her passes are accurate, her passes as snap She's one
(01:50:44):
of the best passers the women's game has ever seen.
And yes, Caitlyn Clark broke dozens of records in college.
She scored just under four thousand points in her career
and even thirty in her final game when IOWA lost
eighty seven to seventy five of the National Championship Game.
Clark averaged just under thirty two points a gamer senior
(01:51:06):
year in college and twenty eight points for her career.
She passed scoring legends like Pete Maravich and thennett Woodard.
Those are facts. Those numbers are incredible, Those records are incredible.
They may or may not even be insurmountable, but Clark's
legacy is far beyond the floor in the record books.
(01:51:27):
Caitlin Clark has shined and she continues to shine a
spotlight on women's basketball that's greater than any you've ever seen. Period.
Let's go back and again. This was the game with
Gagel Reese in twenty twenty three in the National Championship Game.
A record nine point nine million viewers tuned in to
(01:51:50):
watch that game, all right, and then in the following
season when IOWA came back and beat LSU and the
Elite eight. It averaged twelve point four four million viewers,
which is still the most watched women's college basketball game
in history, one of the most viewed games in any
other sport other than the NFL in the past year.
(01:52:10):
She's now in that territory. Okay, By the way, i
was sold out all of its home games and all
but two on the road, and then ticket prices for
iowa's regular season the home game against Ohio State were
the highest don record for any women's basketball game ever.
That was her college career that lit the fuse for
her WNBA career, which was also nothing short of sensational.
(01:52:34):
And watch her pick up where she left off. You're
going to see a lot more Caitlin Clark on TV
this year. I get it. The women's game has had
some great teams over the years. They've had great players
for a couple of decades, but no player before Caitlyn
Clark has ever had the kind of impact on the
number of people watching period. If you're a women's basketball fan,
(01:52:58):
you have to recognize and appreciate what he's done to
grow the sport. If you're a sports fan, if you're
a casuals fan, no player period This is undeniable. It's
inarguable has done more to elevate the popularity of women's
basketball and maybe even basketball in general than Caitlin Clark.
(01:53:18):
Those are just simply the facts. By the way, calm

football Hall of Famer lebar Arrington, and Fox Sports lead
college football reporter Jenny Taft will have you covered for
all thirty two picks with predictions and reactions. That's Thursday
at throughout the first round of the Draft, live right
(01:54:03):
here on Fox Sports Radio, with a live video simulcast
on the Fox Sports Radio YouTube page, brought to you
by Shipstation. Coming up, Dion had a thing or two
to say about the Jersey retirement controversy, and by the way,
I have not forgotten. Okay, we are going to get
(01:54:26):
to Aaron Rodgers' criticism of Aaron Glenn, and we are
going to get to why I think Aaron Glenn had
no interest in being in the Aaron Rodgers business. And
it's frankly hard to blame him. I'm Bernie Frattle. We
are coming to a line from the Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio Tireck dot com studios. Keep it locked. You
(01:54:46):
listened to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
I were back in the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports
Radio special. Thanks to all the midnight callers tonight, really
good stuff. Really appreciated people taking the time. I have
plenty of opportunities to beloviate on Fox Sports Radio and
certainly appreciate folks who take the time to call in.
(01:55:07):
All right, let's take a minute to just, ever so
quickly unpack further this Dion Sanders shudor Sanders number of
retirement and by the way, just a couple of tweetsech
out here, Jeff Sorenson checks and Clark made Iowa women's
basketball relevant, and she brought ice to WNBA. She even
(01:55:28):
got me to watch also Lakers up. Just my opinion,
Homer nineteen sixty seven. Yes, Caitlin Clark's appeal is huge,
but she still isn't enough to get me to watch
the WNB. And I think those are both honest, fair comments.
Do with them what you will. I don't disagree with
either want really all right. So Thursday, Dion Sanders decided
he would address the critics of Colorado's decision to retire
(01:55:50):
the jersey numbers of Shudor Sanders and Travis Hunter. Sanders
and Hunter, right, believe it or not, Prior to Sanders
and Hunter having their jersey's retired, there are only four
players in Colorado history to have their jerseys retired, and
I can't name them. I know Cordell Stewart's not one
of them. I know my buddy Brank Pitcher's not one
(01:56:12):
of them. Chad Brown's not one of them. They're part
of the National Championship team where Sean salom Is he
won the Heisman Trophy. But this is a decision now
that Sanders and Hunter are the fifth and sixth players
in Colorado history, It's not actually gone over that great
with fans and certainly some former players. So on Thursday,
Sanders decided he would address the controversy, particularly based on
(01:56:35):
whether or not Shudor's number should have been retired. He
said it was quote the first time you'd ever seen
anybody soar about a jersey retirement ceremony, and suggested Shador
was dragged into the controversy because of his last name. No,
he was thirteen and twelve as a starter. I'm gonna
get to some reader comments in a second that are
pretty revealing. Quote we're talking about Shudor. We ain't talking
(01:56:59):
about nobody else else. If his last name wasn't Sanders,
we wouldn't be having this discussion. I don't think Dion's
rebuttal holds up here. Okay. A number of very respected,
very accomplished Colorado players have voiced their objection, including Chad Brown,
a linebacker on the nineteen ninety National Championship team. He
(01:57:22):
was openly bothered that Sanders and Hunter were immediately honored
while many of his teammates thirty years later, I'm still
waiting to receive the same recognition. Here's what he said.
Quote Chad Brown said, if the players from the National
Championship team have not received such an honor by default,
this action dismisses, this diminishes, and for a new generation
(01:57:42):
of CU fans, erases their greatness. I would never minimize
the impact of number two or twelve. They are amazing players,
but this timing is poor. Many other fans pointed out
correctly that at best Sanders and Hunter had modest success
to the Hunter is a bona fide top two three pick,
should have a good career in the NFL and Heisman
(01:58:04):
Trophy winner. Okay, but they were still just thirteen and
twelve those two years. They didn't beat anybody good. Sanders
is not going back on the decision, and you defended it,
which led to comments that were posted on various sports
media websites. Quote, shador is about to become the Trey
Lance of the twenty twenty five draft. Neither did anything
(01:58:24):
to warrant Jersey retirement. Now that's a little harsh, a
little better Trey Lance, But let's face it, I'm just
not I don't you know, you know, I feel atomic
Asphalt says if his last name wasn't Sanders, he wouldn't
beginning his number retired. Not we wouldn't have the discussion
trivia question. Another comment from a listener reader, who else
(01:58:48):
has their number retired before the next season has even started.
College retirements are for legends, many seem to be for
what they did later in the NFL asking with all seriousness. Obviously,
neither of these guys deserve the yet no big wins,
no astronomical stats. The word stupid isn't easy out, but
it really fits here. Last one this is a little
harsh too. Dion Wood is without a doubt clueless and
(01:59:11):
believes everyone should feel and think like Kim or they
are just stupid and don't know anything. Fortunately for us
and others, we all have a brain and we can
put things in context. Today, barely a five hundred record
against less than the most challenging schedule in football one
hundred might be an outstanding athlete, and Sanders had some
good stats, but again against the weaker schedule. If the
(01:59:31):
AD and president had a pair, they would have said
no to this. Look like one of the earlier callers said,
Colorado can do whatever they want. It's their deal, and
if they see that this is warranted, fine, But it's
back to my lifeguard analogy. You may look the part
and act the part, but eventually you're gonna have to
(01:59:52):
show the world you can jump in the pool and
swim coming up brand newfool and what my name? Keep
it locked to the Bernie Fratterle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (02:00:00):

for all thirty two picks with predictions and reactions? Thursday
at a pm Eastern throughout the first round of the Draft.
We're live right here on Fox Sports Radio with a
(02:01:05):
live radio simulcast on the Fox Sports Radio YouTube page,
brought to you by Dollar Shave Club. Well, it's that time.
You know what you love? You you can't live without it.
You see, we do a lot of observing and watching
here on the Bernie Friddar Show, and as such, we
notice that around this great country of ours, and across
(02:01:27):
from the sea to Oily Sea, well, people do things.
People do things that well, they cause you to raise
your eyebrow. And oftentimes they're innocuous and stupid and silly
and harmless, but they can be more serious at times,
even run a file a law and have you end
up in jail. But any way you slice it, any
way you describe it, any way you characterize it, these
(02:01:47):
goofy behaviors always leave us scratching our head and asking ourselves,
what kind.
Speaker 1 (02:01:52):
Of brand new full of you? What kind of brand
new fool are you?
Speaker 2 (02:02:03):
Well we take it to ok Blahoma City where a
man has been arrested. Well, I'm gonna get to that
in just a second. All I know is that the
reporter witnessed, Hey, get away from that police card and
get on the ground is what the officer yelled at
(02:02:24):
meet twenty seven year old mister Alfred Jabody. Since it
actually happened a few months ago, and when the body
camera video caught up, mister j was lying on the
ground and the officer approached moments after, well, what could
have possibly happened? Well, I guess mister J of Oklahoma
(02:02:44):
City has like this habit. He's got an odd hobby.
He lets throwing concrete blocks and large rocks at police cars.
Speaker 7 (02:02:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:02:56):
Yeah, And what does the officer say. He says, well,
I was literally just driving by and just watching him
pick up this big old rock and smash it out.
Speaker 7 (02:03:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:03:05):
Man, no, dude, it's done, dude. The officer who responded
said to an officer who arrived moments later. But here's
what's interesting, Okay, you got to be an idiot to
throw concrete blocks at anything but a police car. Turns
out this wasn't the first or mister Jay he was
(02:03:26):
doing the same thing for doing it to a patrol
unit four years ago, didn't get it another time, and
then now three point thirty am on a Tuesday morning,
he did it for a third time. Third time throwing
brick blocks at a police car.
Speaker 28 (02:03:43):
Quote.
Speaker 2 (02:03:43):
An officer was walking out of headquarters. That's when he
saw a man who happened to be vandalyzing a scout
car that was parked outside of headquarters. The man and
throwing a concrete block through one of the windows and
was attempting to get a concrete block through another window.
An officer morgan report. And each time it happens, the
patrol vehicle is either parked in front of the Oklahoma
(02:04:06):
City Police headquarters or driving by. So he's throwing brick
blocks at police cars. He's done it at his three
times right in front of police headquarters. Well, finally he
gave up. He's been taken into custody. He went peacefully. However,
the officers asked, mister J, why are you doing this.
(02:04:26):
Mister Jay's answer, I don't know. At least he gave
him some thought. Thankfully, no human beings were hurt. And oh,
by the way, mister J also has a body of work.
He was once arrested for assaulting a detention officer. In
the past. Mister J of Oklahoma City throwing blocks, concrete blocks,
(02:04:48):
large rocks at police cars multiple times in front of
the police department. What kind of brand new fooler. You Okay, Brianna,
you've got the floor.
Speaker 29 (02:04:59):
Can you imagine in doing something like that? And then
they ask you and all you can say.
Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
Is, I don't know. This guy sounds like a real genius.
Speaker 30 (02:05:06):
Yeah, wow, thoughts in prayers anyways, So you know, whenever
you go shopping for a new car, you have the
opportunity to test drive something.
Speaker 29 (02:05:17):
And most of the time I just bought.
Speaker 30 (02:05:18):
A new car last year, I usually have like a
guy from the dealership go with me, right, like, you know,
they're responsible for the car. So Tesla, I guess trusts
their prospective buyers a lot because they actually give the
opportunity for the people to test drive and have like
a half an hour to actually go out and just
(02:05:40):
you know, drive around.
Speaker 2 (02:05:41):
Right.
Speaker 29 (02:05:42):
So you see those those huge Tesla cyber trucks, those.
Speaker 30 (02:05:45):
Funky ones that kind of look like it's like hat yeah,
like little transformers, kind of creepy army type things. All right,
So this Florida man, obviously in honor producer Shay, he
had a different kind of interpretation of half an hour.
Speaker 29 (02:06:00):
He took the Testlas cyber.
Speaker 30 (02:06:02):
Truck test drive for five days before the brand repossessed
the electric truck. This guy, we'll call him mister Smith,
visited the Tesla store in Tampa, Florida, on March twenty sixth.
He requested the full bore cyber beast version, which is
I guess, the top of the line Tesla and assigned.
Speaker 29 (02:06:24):
An agreement to return it in a half an hour.
He gave a driver's license, you know, to retain.
Speaker 30 (02:06:30):
And two copies of like credit cards kind of thing,
and then he took off with the truck and did
not return. Tesla emailed him, They called him, and the
phone number was obviously disconnected.
Speaker 29 (02:06:42):
They tried to look up those credit cards.
Speaker 30 (02:06:43):
They were stolen credit cards and so obviously, you know,
not the best American citizen over here.
Speaker 29 (02:06:51):
They tracked down the car five days later where they.
Speaker 30 (02:06:54):
Saw that Smith was engaged at would have been running
an errand at home depot.
Speaker 29 (02:07:00):
So the Tesla at a Tesla employee.
Speaker 30 (02:07:05):
Found you know, the car and videotape the guy with
the cyber truck and then repossessed the vehicle when he
was inside the store.
Speaker 5 (02:07:12):
He was not.
Speaker 30 (02:07:13):
Apprehended when he was at home depot, Like, they didn't
do anything. He was the one that returned to Tesla
the next stay to reclaim his belongings that he had
left in the vehicle. So, like, you know, I don't
know if he would have been caught eventually, but he
actually just like showed up at Tesla to like, you know,
give up to you know, take care of his stuff
(02:07:35):
that he had left in the vehicle itself. So, just
in regards to how much that cyber truck is kind
of like worth, it starts at ninety nine thousand dollars.
The delivery destination handling fee pushes the sticker price over
one hundred thousand dollars. So he is now facing a
charge of grand theft over one hundred thousand dollars, which
(02:07:57):
is considered a first degree felony instead of a second
agree felony and comes with a potential thirty year prison sentence.
So when he went to go pick up the vehicle,
they just called the police and they came and arrested him. So,
mister Smith of Florida, what kind of brand new fool
are you?
Speaker 2 (02:08:16):
I was wondering where that was going to end up.
I always thought it was for insurance purposes. The salesman
had to ride with you when they were driving the car, and.
Speaker 30 (02:08:24):
I guess maybe because Tesla is just so uppity up,
they're just like, oh, go ahead, you know, just take
it for a little joy ride.
Speaker 29 (02:08:30):
Half hours policy.
Speaker 2 (02:08:33):
Yeah, you know, all right, couple of good brand new fools,
and that these people always managed to earn their stripes,
no doubt about it. So that concludes another rousing edition
of what kind of brand new fool are You, which
now allows us to segue into our next favorite, a
bit which we call what my Name? All right, Well,
(02:08:58):
so we just finished up the Master There's Golf tournament
in fine fashion last week, so we'll begin with a
couple of golf questions. I just recently became only the
second professional golfer of all time to achieve one hundred
million dollars of golf earnings. It doesn't include commercial earnings
(02:09:23):
or advertising earnings.
Speaker 24 (02:09:24):
Or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (02:09:24):
One hundred million dollars in golf earnings, Brianna, what my name?
Speaker 29 (02:09:29):
I'm just gonna throw out Roy McRoy because.
Speaker 2 (02:09:31):
He just wanted Jack Bory at Mackroy. Yes, they announced
it right after win or win or off and running. Yeah,
they announced it right afterward. And of course it doesn't
surprise me with the size of today's pursues today. So,
as I mentioned, Rory was only the second golfer of
all time to earn one hundred million dollars in golf earnings.
(02:09:53):
I was actually the first golfer of all time professional
to turn one hundred million dollars in earnings on the
course alone. Mark Ramsey, what my name?
Speaker 29 (02:10:04):
Jack Nicholas.
Speaker 2 (02:10:06):
He just is right behind Jack Nicholas in the number
of major tournaments. Think about it. He couldn't play in
this year's Masters because he had an achilles injury. Tiger
Woods is right. Two for two, We'll have one more
golf and this one I think is pretty interesting because
(02:10:28):
just recently I became the only golfer in history to
win the Masters despite having four double bogies in the
same round.
Speaker 29 (02:10:39):
Brianna, what my name, Scottie Scheffler.
Speaker 2 (02:10:44):
That's not a bad guy. Think about it. He just
won the Masters. Yeah, he had the four bogies. Yeah,
and so that that's never that's never been done. I
might have botched that. It might have been throughout the
tournament he had four total bogie double bogies, not the
that's wrong. It wasn't the final round, but it was
(02:11:06):
four double bogies for the entire tournament, which is also
never been done. There have been three double bogies when
people have recovered from so good Ferrari. It was quite
a victory. It was quite a master's on Sunday. Okay,
let's switch to hockey. I just became the all time
leading goal scorer in the NHL. Mark Ramsey, what my name?
(02:11:28):
I played for the Washington Capitals and I'm Russian, mister
Ovichkin out standing, four for four everybody, Alex Ovechkin, Well,
he had to break somebody's record. Alex Ovechkin had to
break somebody's record of the all time leading goal scorer,
(02:11:49):
and it was mine, Branna, what my name?
Speaker 1 (02:11:52):
My nickname was the great one, Wayne Gretzky.
Speaker 2 (02:11:55):
It is, of course Wayne Gretzky, who was there the night.
He had to travel within the following week, the final
week to be on hand while while Ovechkin did it. Okay,
last one, Let's switch to basketball. Well, we talked about
this earlier with Mark Medina. Tonight. The Lakers have won
a championship in recent times. The last time the Lakers
(02:12:18):
won a championship, I was the head coach. Mark Ramsey,
what my name is? It Doug Collins, Frank Vogel, or
Chris Purfett.
Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
I'm gonna go with Chris, I mean Vogel.
Speaker 2 (02:12:36):
It is, in fact Frank Vogel a very good coach.
By the way, he was fired afterward. Think Lebron had something.
Speaker 1 (02:12:43):
To do with that. Yeah, what do you have done?
What have you done for me lately?
Speaker 8 (02:12:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:12:47):
Isn't it amazing all these coaches getting fired after winning championships? Okay,
everybody went five for five tonight. Excellent job and excellent
job on brand newfool what my name? And that will
bring us to a conclusion. And I want to listen.
I want to I want to delve into this. Before
I do, I want to remind everybody you can stream

(02:13:28):
up on your screen all right before I get to
why Aaron Glenn. I call this Aaron versus Aaron, and
nobody won. Nobody won because I'm not I can't really
blame Aaron Glenn for taking the position he had. But
right off the gate, right off the bat, it just
once again illustrates the clunky, discombobulated methods with which the
(02:13:54):
Jets do business. This whole thing just looks bad. And
then you got Aaron Rodgers going on Pat McAfee, which
is a safe space for him because he wanted to
set things straight about his playing future. And frankly, the
thing about Aaron Rodgers at this point, if he told
me he was gonna be eighty and sunny tomorrow, buy
three top coats. But he starts off by saying, quote,
I figured when I flew across country on my dime,
(02:14:17):
I feel real bad for you, Aaron, You've only made
about four hundred million in your career. There would be
a conversation. So he says, I meet with the coach.
We start talking, he runs out of the room. I'm like,
that's strange. Then he comes back with a GM. So
we sit down and I think we're going to have
this long conversation. I'll flowing across country in twenty seconds,
and I'm talking to the GM and Glenn. That's coach
(02:14:37):
Aaron Glenn and the new head coach came over from Detroit,
the former defensive coordinator. He leans to the edge of
his seat and says, you sure you want to play football?
And I said, yeah, I'm interested. And he said, well,
we're going in a different direction of quarterback. Is if
Rogers really didn't know that, how could you not know that?
Aaron Rogers said Glenn that asked him about the messaging
of how he wanted his release to be announced. According
(02:14:59):
to Roger, Glenn said, quote, I don't want to be
in front of the room saying something and have guys
looking back at you. So that's a dumb comment by
Aaron Glenn because at first he was like, Okay, let's
let's at least close this with some dignity because you're
gonna go to the Hall of Fame. I don't want
you on my team. I'd rather have Justin Fields, who's
fourteen and thirty as a starter. Good luck with that one.
Just prove me wrong this year. I'll take my medicine
(02:15:21):
if Justin feels easy to the playoffs. Ain't gonna happen, okay,
and Rodgers said, are you assuming I would be in
the back of the room during a team meeting underminding
what you're saying?
Speaker 1 (02:15:29):
You don't know me?
Speaker 2 (02:15:31):
Aaron Glynn says, you don't know me. Then Aaron Rodgers said, exactly,
That's why I flew across the country to have a
face to face meeting with you. So do you think
either one of these guys comes out looking good? Rogers
went on to say, I felt there wasn't an ample
amount of respect in that meeting. I guess I shouldn't
have been surprised based on some things I saw over
(02:15:51):
the two years. Look, let's be fair here, let's be honest.
Rogers started all seventeen games in twenty twenty five. The
Jets were five and twelve. After week four, the owner,
Woody Johnson suggested that Rogers be benched. A week later,
head coach Robert Salid was fired. Then their offensive coordinator
(02:16:15):
Nathaniel Hackett, who had been a close friend of Aaron Rodgers,
was demoted. Then GM Joe Douglas was fired in November
outthern NET missus. Lincoln how was to play and at
the NFL scouting combine in February. Listen, the Jets were
asked about the team's decision to part ways with Rogers. Okay,
(02:16:36):
they basically said, look, we felt like the best thing
moving forward for the Jets was to go in a
different direction of quarterback. Do you think I mean? Look,
I got fooled. I have to take my medicine, turning
the clock back to a year ago, and I said,
as long as Rogers is healthy, I think they are
(02:16:57):
they are going to make the playoffs, all right. I
really believe that that Rogers would have been at least
perhaps one of the missing links the Jets told us.
They told us everything was in place, all we needed
was the quarterback. All we're missing is the quarterback. So
(02:17:17):
in March, the Jets signed Justin Fields to be their
starting quarterback. Now, regarding Rogers and his playing future, he said, quote,
he's open to anything and attached to nothing. Come on,
that's just bullvine scatology. You're not open to anything. You
didn't want to go to the New York Giants. I
think you want to go to the Minnesota Vikings, even
(02:17:38):
though you deny that in the McAfee interview and the
Pittsburgh Steelers have been waiting there for you. Here's a
chance to really do something with some quality receivers to
go to and an excellent coulture in a proud football town,
and you thumb your nose at it. Just the way
you've handled this. You know, most human beings are reasonable.
They can deal with good news, they can do with
(02:17:59):
bad news. They don't want to do with uncertainty. This
is just uncertainty with a capital ute. Now my humble
opinion not a prediction. It's an opinion. Rogers will end
up with Pittsburgh. Okay, now they're still saying retirement could
be a possibility. Rogers said, quote, Right now, my focus
has been it will continue to be on my personal
(02:18:21):
life as far as what mowing the lawn. That's what
I've told the coaches. There are still conversations that are
being had. It has been very honest lines of communication.
I really appreciate the time I talked to various teams,
but there's been lots of narratives that have not been
anywhere near accurate. Well then why don't you straighten it out?
(02:18:44):
During a nearly forty minute conversation And I did my
best not to watch it, but I watched the highlights
because Pat McAfee is his shill, right, and Rogers spoke
on what he said where some of the rumors surround
his free agency and this whole off season, which has
been a train wreck. Rogers said, quote, I've been straight
(02:19:08):
up with these teams from the start about where I
was as Starting with the money thing. I told every
single one of the teams I talked to it ain't
about the money. Yeah, kind of like Nico or kind
of like Miles Garrett. No, when you say it's about
not about the money, it's about the money. He ain't
gonna play for free. He told every single one of
the teams I talked to you, Ab I'll play for
(02:19:29):
ten million. Okay, I never once see it. I needed
a multi year deal, thirty forty million. It's absolutely bulls hit.
I said, I'll play for ten million. That's what I
told him in the march, at the very beginning. No
one is saying you're demanding money. Everybody's wondering what the
hell you're doing, which we know you're doing. You're doing
what you always doing. You did the same thing when
(02:19:49):
you left Green Bay. You did the same thing about
when you were considering retiring before you came back last year,
which we knew you weren't gonna do. Or the Ayahuascar
or the dark room or traveling to Egypt. Dud, dude,
you do.
Speaker 16 (02:20:01):
This is what you do.
Speaker 2 (02:20:02):
Man, You're a crazy maker. We don't care about your
personal life. You are a public figure. You are a
Hall of Fame quarterback. You can praise Mike Tomlin all
you want, and you know what, you don't know any
if it's anything, you don't have to make a decision.
Do what the hell you want to do. But just
know that we are watching because this is in fact

bol that's played in the US and internationally around the world.
That's why we call it Chris Phfetts World of Soccer.
Speaker 26 (02:22:15):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama.
Speaker 2 (02:22:29):
At the end.
Speaker 1 (02:22:31):
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 31 (02:22:35):
The stumble for Wrexham down the block means the club
that is the star of Welcome to Rexham, featuring its
owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, is grasping for a
little bit of hope. After being in command of the
automatic promotion in League One for most of the year,
Rexham has taken a little bit of a tumble and
(02:22:57):
of course you must give credit to the tea that
has been chasing this from this entire time, the Wycombe Wanderers,
who have won three of their last four matches so
far in League One. Rexham, however, not nearly as even keeled.
A few draws three of their last four has seen
the teams stumble down to third, which is still a
(02:23:20):
chance to be promoted to the English League Championship, but
they would have to go through a playoff tournament to
make it up there if they remained there. There are
three match days remaining four League One Wycombe Wanderers and
Wrexham both have three apiece. There's no hope to catch
number one at this point on the table. That club
(02:23:42):
has done tremendously well. But Rexham is seeking its third
promotion in three years and if they did so, they
would move all the way to the English League Championship,
which is the doorstep of the Premier League. However, that
might be in jeopardy at least unless they can prove
it on the pitch, but that's the appetizer for world
of soccer. These semi finals for the UEFA Champions League
(02:24:04):
are set with four of the great powers of Europe
all represented. England's Arsenal taking on Francis Paris Saint Germain
in one side of the bracket, while Spain's Barcelona takes
on Italy's Inter Milan on the other side. It's been
a fascinating tournament so far. Real Madrid, who looked like
(02:24:25):
they were far down, looked like they were going to
have a little bit of magic, as they had stomped
all over Manchester City in the knockout phase the playoffs
in the round of sixteen, taking on their in city
rival at laty Co Madrid, but then running into an
Arsenal team that has been everything that we shall say
goes under the definition of the word hot. They had
(02:24:47):
a nine to three aggregate over PSV in the round
of sixteen, stomped on Real Madrid five to one in
the aggregate, which is kind of surprising considering Arsenal has
had a lot of stumbling blocks here in Premier League play.
But if they have anything to focus on right now,
because they will finish too, they will not catch Liverpool.
It might as well be going for the Champions League
(02:25:09):
to be the masters of Europe. The Gunners, however, are
taking on a very hot parising Germain team. After a
strong battle with Liverpool and Aston Villa. It seems like
the Parisians have kind of had their hands full with
English clubs. At the same time, There's nothing but remark
(02:25:29):
that I have for Parising Germaine making it to the
semi finals of the Champions League. A team that has
been synonymous with high spending and some of the great superstars.
Not long after dismantling all of its Big three, sending
away Lionel Messi, Neymar and killing Embape, somehow has become
leaner and more dangerous with no losses in French play,
(02:25:54):
this year.
Speaker 1 (02:25:55):
Their record is twenty four to five.
Speaker 31 (02:25:57):
And zero in League One, and a lot of that
comes from just being leaner, a little more retooled. Ostman
Demble has been phenomenal twenty one goals in League one
play seven goals in the Champions League this year. Another
one of their forwards, Bradley Barcolo, has been absolutely fantastic.
This is a club that's really been finding itself. They
(02:26:18):
traded for Kavicia Caraccelia from inter Milan, bringing him in
on a transfer, and they've really had a really good
course set up here. This is a PSG playing at
a level we haven't really seen them in quite some time.
They have a much better work ethic, they're a lot
more balanced in the midfield and quite honestly, I really
like their chances and I believe they will advance on
(02:26:40):
aggregate over Arsenal.
Speaker 7 (02:26:41):
Now.
Speaker 31 (02:26:42):
As for the other side, it's been quite an adventure
for inter Milan this year in all of their campaigns.
They're currently tied with Napoli at the top of Italy
right now. They are resilient. They are a strong defensive
team that has been winning a lot of matches here
through that strength of their defense, four to three over
(02:27:03):
the best of Germany Bayern Munich on the aggregate and
just really stomping down and clamping down on every team
they can. Whereas Barcelona is high flying, they are fun
to watch. They have a lot of offensive firepower between
Robert Lewandowski, Rafina and of course the very young Lamin Yamal,
still all of seventeen years old as he continues to
(02:27:26):
write his legend at such a young age. What will
make this one more interesting is that both Barcelona and
Inter are in the fights of their lives right now
in their domestic leagues to capture domestic titles in La
Liga and Syria alike. Inter as of this writing tied
seventy one points apiece with Napoli. Barcelona with a respectable
(02:27:46):
but not completely invincible, seven point lead over Real Madrid
and La Liga. This is an extreme clash of styles
and it's really hard for me to pick who is
going to win this one. Both are coming off some
real tests against German clubs. I think I do want
to lean a little bit to Inter Milan as far
(02:28:08):
as their defensive style about how they have been playing
as a team, but it would not surprise me Barcelona,
with all of that firepower makes it to the final
as well. Either way, we've got a couple of weeks
now until we start to really get into the meet
the final stages of the Champions League. This is when
it starts to really really get fun. Bernie, We'll see
(02:28:30):
you next time.
Speaker 1 (02:28:31):
Happy Easter. It's the world of soccer.
Speaker 2 (02:28:34):
So, for what it's worth, Paris Saint Germain, that football
club actually is first in the Liga. They got a
very very gaudy record. They're first place by a mile.
Not that that particularly have that much interest for me,
but it takes on a slightly different perspectives. In Paris
(02:28:55):
with my wife a few months back, and when you
leave the airport, hop on the freeway, you head towards
the Eiffel Tower. You see the stadium they play at,
Arena Stadium on the left, nice nice looking stadium. Stadium
that where they won the nineteen ninety eight World Cup.
So you can impress your friends with that information. But yeah,
there you have it. Chris Purfett's World of Soccer. All right,
(02:29:18):
coming up, I'm going to dive into this why Aaron
Glenn had no interest in being in the Aaron Rodgers business,
Why it's hard to blame him and why I will
support the Jets' decision to show Aaron Rodgers the door.
I'm Bernie Frattle. We are comedy line from Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio, Tireck dot Com Studios. Keep it locked.
(02:29:41):
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, we are wrapping it up on the Bernie
Frattle Show. I want to thank producers Mark and Brianna.
Thanks so much for all your efforts tonight. Thanks to
all the callers in the midnight hour Mark Medina jam
Pack Show tonight, and we'll have another one next Saturday
night at eleven. I want to get into this Aaron
(02:30:03):
Rodgers what appears to be the final chapter in the
Jets Rogers Daniel Mall By the way, not for nothing.
It's only fitting that the Jets have a different version
of their events. According to CBS Sports and part of
a story I think reported by NFL Media's Tom Pella,
(02:30:24):
Sero said quote, what I was told at the time
was that Aaron indicated to them, Hey, I'm going to
be on the outside of the country this week, and
they said, great, come into the building. And then there's
been ongoing dialogue up until that, and there were a
variety of things said, but it wasn't quite as much
of a terminal, you know, thud as Rogers painted it
(02:30:45):
to be. Who knows, what does it matter? This is
what you get with Aaron Rodgers. This is exactly what
you get. And this will be a preview, but I
do hope listen, I root for the story. What would
be the best story that Rogers comes back and plays
gain this year, preferably for a team like Pittsburgh. Who
is Pittsburgh is always going to be a perennial contender
(02:31:07):
because of their culture, their coach, and their DNA. They
have enough pieces on defense to compete, and they have
two stud wide receivers, and they didn't want Russell Wilson
or Justin Fieldstone on the ball, So why not get
a guy who's might have a little bit one more
left in the tank. We'll find out'd be fun to watch,
That's my opinion. But as far as the Jets, they
(02:31:27):
showed Aaron Rodgers adoor, and I think they were right
to show Aaron Rodgers a door and know in certain
terms Aaron Glenn, who in his NFL history had actually
been a top ten draft choice of the New York
Jets years ago, and had a good career as a
defensive back with the New York Jets, had bounced around
(02:31:50):
in the coaching ranks, and most notably, had presided over
a very impressive defense in Detroit as a defensive coordinator.
If you've ever heard Aaron Glenn talk, he is nobs,
he is kurt, He's to the point, he's succinct. He
does not mince words, he does not equivocate. He had
Aaron Glynn had no interest in being in the Aaron
Rodgers business, and frankly, it's hard to blame it, if anything,
(02:32:14):
if you've just simply observed the way that Aaron Rodgers
has handled the after the math of this whole recent ordeal,
specifically following Aaron's Thursday interview with Pat McAfee, I think
that is a say in law prima facia that the
Jets made the right decision on the face of it.
Think about it. From the beginning of the Rogers Jets
(02:32:38):
partnership back in twenty twenty three, the Jets flew on
their time to Malibu, California. They had a contingent of
key decision makers and their goal was to convince Aaron
Rodgers to play for the Jets. Then the Jets hired
Nathaniel Hackett as an offensive coordinator at Rogers's request. Then
(02:33:02):
they overpaid Alan Wizard in free agency to make Rogers
more comfortable, and again accommodate his request. After the trade
was completed, Rogers gave some salary back to help the
Jets sign more of his buddies, or in other words,
players he wanted to play with, like Well Randall Cobb,
(02:33:23):
Dalvin Cook, Billy Turner, Tim Boyle. None of those signings
worked out. I don't think DeVante Adams worked out with
a damn either. For a time, there were other geams
around the league that were mockingly referring to the Jets
general manager at the time as the Seams assistant GM.
(02:33:44):
The joke was that Rogers was really the one calling
the shots hashtags spot to lie. Can I prove it no?
But on the face of it, again, what happened? It
feels like Rogers promised the Jets the world. Instead he
gave the Jets a world of confusion, a world of distraction,
(02:34:04):
a world of uncertainty, and Rogers two years with the
Jets the only headlines he really made were for media appearances.
The headlines were not made by his play on the field.
That's for damn sure, I get it. The first year
was a throwaway through no vault of his own four plays,
but it seemed that that just became a portent of
(02:34:28):
things to come. So when February of twenty twenty five
year old around the Jets basically said to Aaron Rodgers,
I'm sorry, you're fired. Oh, they didn't say I'm sorry.
They just said you're fired. The lncher took us hit
the door on the way out. Now is if you
(02:34:49):
watch the Netflix special on Aaron Rodgers. I'm sure this
was a bit of an ego death terminology he'd liked
to use that I'd never heard before, because Aaron Rodgers
had never been fired before, he says. Aaron Rodgers says
he wishes Aaron Glenn would have shown him enough respect
to just fire him over the phone, rather than, as
he said multiple times on Thursday with Pat McAfee, have
(02:35:12):
him quote pay his own way to fly across country
for a short meeting. Now, don't I guess you could
insert your own packers Brian Gudokunsk he was the former
or he was the gem for the Packers, and Rogers
was there who claims to have called Aaron Rodgers multiple
(02:35:33):
times when Rogers was holding the Green Bay Packers up.
Rogers never answered the DAN phone. So maybe you can't
really blame the Jets for not calling Rogers because who
knows if Rogers would have answered the phone. But I digress.
Rogers went on to tell Pat McAfee, who is his shill? Quote?
I felt there wasn't enough ample amount of respect in
(02:35:53):
that meeting. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised based
on somehow things I saw over the two years. Is
if you're not culpable in this aeron Now, if Aaron
Glenn had told Rogers they were done with him over
the phone, don't you think Aaron Rodgers were then pissed
and moaned about not having the respect to do it
(02:36:13):
face to face. I think that Aaron Glenn handled us
the right way. For all the Jets off the field
shenanigans and missteps and mistakes over the past few years,
this might not have been one of them, although it
still kind of ended up being one of them. But
you get my point. In the corporate world, I understand
(02:36:35):
that companies may often conduct mass firings over zoom, and
sometimes employees find out they've been dismissed via email, But
most NFL players don't receive the same courtesy that the
Jets provided Aaron Rodgers. The coach told him, man to man,
was it a bit of a harsh approach? Yeah, but
(02:36:55):
it has to be you saw moneyball. Could Aaron Glenn
have used a softer touch? Maybe? But what was that accomplished?
What's the point of lingering it, letting it linger, letting
it drag on? As they say, Aaron Glenn just simply
ripped the band aid off. Nothing Aaron Rodgers was going
to say in that meeting was gonna sway Aaron Glenn.
(02:37:17):
So Rogers found out he was on the outs minutes
after arriving at the Jets facility. And if Rodgers didn't
know that going in, then either he's lacks awareness, which
I doubt. He's actually a very bright guy. He's just
a pain in the ass loadan the shorts. But now
Rodgers can officially move on as if he didn't know.
(02:37:38):
He couldn't before, and so can the Jets. So for
two seasons, let the record show Aaron Rodgers was a
walking distraction. The Jets never deterred him from making appearances
on McAfee show, even though he used that platform to
call out his teammates, spewed conspiracy theories, and generally just
cause problems in his stir only for Rogers till later
complain that the Jets organization for having some non football distractions. Now,
(02:38:02):
Aaron Glenn has been the Jets coach for about three months.
In that time, he's already put his stamp on how
things are going to operate around here. He's plugged leaks
in the building. The Jets have actively tried to avoid
making headlines, whereas they used to make headlines even if
there was no headline, and Aaron Rodgers was very culpable
in that area. The Jets have gutted their roster. They've
(02:38:23):
only got four players on that roster that are older
than thirty years old, three around backup teams once Tyrod
Taylor a backup quarterback. Rogers did not fit their timeline,
he didn't fit their culture, he doesn't fit their narrative.
This is Aaron Glenn's team now, not the quarterbacks. Good.
Whether it works or not, it was a necessary change
because the last two years have been a disaster, and
(02:38:45):
who's to say that Rogers would still be stringing the
Jets along this offseason the same way he's stringing along
the Pittsburgh Steelers. Just look at the conversation with Glenn
that Rogers relayed, you sure you want to play football
at Rogers bond. Yeah, I'm interested, as opposed to no,
I want to be your quarterback? A half assed, vague,
obtuse response typically Aaron Rodgers. So here we are. It's
almost me. Rogers hasn't a saturdy if he wants to
(02:39:07):
retire or play. The NFL Draft is four days away.
The Jets have moved on. Shelton Fields is their guy? Fields?
Wouldn't look now the Steelers are being held up, they
turn their attention to Rogers. Pittsburgh is a team desperate
to get over the home and they are in need
of a quarterback. It sounds like a fit. What are
you waiting for, Aaron? Your options are running out? Does
(02:39:29):
this scenario look familiar? Yeah? Because it is. It's gonna
do it for the Bernie Frattle Show. See you next
Saturday night at eleven pm. Keep it locked up next
to the Great Andy Furman on Fox Sports Radio,
