Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radiodo.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Frowner. We are
coming to live from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. Will take you up to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern, absolute jam packed show tonight, and we're
going to get to it all. A lot to say
about Aaron Rodgers, a lot to say about Tom Thibodeau.
(00:26):
We've got Mark Medina in about twenty minutes in a
fresh edition of brand newfool What my Name. We're gonna
cover it all, and we start with this nugget of wisdom.
Redemption is good for the soul. Hold that thought, Hold
that thought. You know. I'm a simple guy. I try
(00:48):
to live by simple rules. Two of them. I try
to avoid drive throughs like the plague. Try to avoid
ATM machines like the plague. Every time I go through
a drive through, all I want to do is get
my happy meal. Beyond my way. I'm always stuck behind
somebody who's order gonna fit, you know, food for the
fifth fleet. Every time I go to an ATM machine,
just want to get my two hundred bucks get the
hell out of there. Sure enough, I'm behind somebody trying
(01:12):
to do a leverage bank buy out through an ATM machine.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
But I digress.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Wonder rule I don't break is when I get something
in my mind, I don't second guess myself. Redemption is
good for the soul. Enter Rick Carlyle. Now, before I
get to reiterating why I believe Indiana will win this series.
And I said it two weeks ago, and I said
it before that, that they would beat the Knicks. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
I have a lot of history with at Carlisle.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
I covered him when he was coaching the Pistons and
three and o four, Uh, and check that two and three.
It was unceremoniously fired area Larry Brown took over November nineteen,
two thousand, before the Malice at the Palace. I was
there twenty years ago. See, that was supposed to be
Rick Carlile's ride to glory in leading a very good
(02:06):
NBA team, a very good Indiana team, to the NBA
title the Circle of Life. And I talked to Jeremy
shap about this unreal twenty years later to the month,
here we are with the Pacers, the Pacers possibly providing
the redemption for Rick Carlile it frankly he deserves because
I don't think anybody really realizes what a great coach
(02:28):
this guy is. There's a reason that the Indiana Pacers
have added new dimension to the over phrased, used, overused phrase.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Try that out in English.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Come back kids, The Pacers won't die. The Knicks tried
to warn you, the CAFs tried to warn you, the
Bucks warned you, and now the Thunder have learned their
lesson after Game one. Game one was the.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Pacers' fifth comeback victory.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
From a deficit of fifteen or more in the twenty
five NBA Playoffs, the most by a team in a
single postseason in twenty eight years. The Thunder led one
toweight ninety nine with about two to fifty remaining in
the game, but yet they made just one basket the
rest of the game, as the Pacers made play after
play after play, and when they went up one ten
(03:15):
one nine with three tenths of a second the only
time they led, and they forced MVP Shay Gilgis into
a miss with eleven seconds remaining, Aaron Nesmith grabs the
rebound and gave the ball to Tyrese Halliburton setting up
the winning shot. It was the fourth time in the
playoffs at Haliburton made a shot that one or sent
it game to overtime. Like Yogi Berry said, it ain't
(03:39):
over until it's over. But neatly buried in that final
eleven seconds was after Nesmith rebounded Shay Gilgis miss. Did
you notice Rick Carlon Lyle didn't call a timeout? I
guarantee you you line up fifty coaches. Forty nine would
(04:02):
have called the time out to drop a play that
would have been obvious. They would have risked an inbound
pass against an OKAC defense that had caused a ton
of problems at least most of the night for Idiana.
So given the experience, the savvy, the brain power knowledge
that Rick Carlisle has in the heat of battle, when
(04:24):
the heat gets hot and it's hard to breathe, and
all of a sudden, the basketball game becomes a fist
fight in the phone booth and quantum physics takes over.
And don't tell me you didn't see it on the
faces of the OKC thunder with a couple of minutes
to go, especially Chad Logren No, Rick Carlisle in the
heat of battle, had been there. Let's keep it moving.
(04:45):
I've got trust in my team. I've got trust in
Tyree Halliburton. And yes, Carlile's faith was rewarded once again.
Tyree Halliburton thrives under pressure, understood the urgency, kept okase
scrambling defense. See because by calling time out that would
have allowed the Thunder to regroup and put a defense together.
(05:07):
And the Kalmas coach and the Commas player on the floor, well,
the decision led to pulling up for a go ahead bucket.
By the way, he wasn't even double teamed Cason Wallace
was alone helplessly on an island. Carlile simply said after
the game, well, we have a lot of experience in
these types of games. Carlisle does, he won a championship.
(05:31):
He did win a championship. He said, We just tried
to get the ball into his hands as much as
possible in those situations. I think Phil Jackson once said
that about a guy named Michael Jeffrey Jordan. As for
the shot itself, what else is there to say? This
dude is got it going.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
It's his time.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Tyrese Haliburton, I can't wait for the game Sunday night,
and yes they're eleven point underdogs again and we'll get
to that later, but another two away. Really the Pacers,
they had the game slipping away from them from the
(06:10):
get go with nineteen turnovers. But then really, somehow it
managed to look like okay, see, even though they led
the entire way, look like they never really had control
of it. It's easy to say in retrospect now, this
is not revisionist history. This is what was happening. But
the group think echo chamber narrative working over time like
(06:31):
it always he always does, had everyone believing this series
was over. This was a historically great team. How yeah,
they won sixty eight games. They never want anything. Yet,
how what are we doing here? Well, what OKAYC did
in the first half was pounced whenever a Pacer tried
(06:52):
to dribble the balls. What they did all year. They'd
send defenders in from the blindside to poke it loose.
They cut off passing lanes. Lou dort an outstanding game
turned into nineteen first half turnovers. Maybe the biggest surprise
wasn't Halliburton hitting the game winner. Maybe it was the
Pacers eventually cleaning up their mistakes and doing it relatively
(07:13):
quickly when they really needed to. If they hadn't, the
game would have drifted away and they wouldn't have come back.
And so this is a team, the Pacers who actually
protected the ball all season, averaging just thirteen turnovers a game. Well,
guess what, they only had three in the third quarter
and the game started to tilt back. Oka see did
(07:37):
lead by fifteen. Of course, ironically that was in the
third quarter of Jalen Williams stole an Invaluve pass and dunked,
and Halliburton says, look, when you get to fifteen, you
can panter, you can talk talk about how we get
to ten and how do we get to five? And
you know what happened. Give it up to Shake Gilgis
for forty seven minutes and fifty seconds. Typical Shake Gilger's game.
(08:01):
He dropped buckets. The Pacers could not disrupt his flow,
but eventually, when they needed to, when it mattered most,
they did. Then things got real interesting. About twenty two
seconds left in the game, Pascal Siakam he failed to
retrieve that loose ball, and Okasee had fourteen seconds left
(08:21):
on the shot clock. So Shay gilgis, Well, he couldn't
just simply run the clock out. Still, this was a
shot Shay has made a million times, one that earned
him the MVP Award, but it fell short. You're not
gonna hear me knock Shay Gilgess. He did enough to
help his team win that game that night. Had he
(08:41):
made that shot, that would have put them up by three.
And I think Tyrese Halliburton would have had the presence
of mind to stop before the three point line and
launch a shot. We'll never know whatuld happened, because it
doesn't matter. It's an imponderable basketball's a games are runs,
by the way. Give it up to Obi Toppin. When
the Pacers got into trouble early in the game and
(09:03):
they were looking around for some sort of comfort, instability,
at least temporarily, they found it from a guy, Obi
topping who Rick Carlisle has managed to resurrect. This guy
was a bench player dumped by his previous team for
two second round picks. Hell, even Brownie James was drafted
in the first round. Now, I'm sure wherever the Knicks
(09:27):
are in the bar, on the beach, on the golf course,
well you know, I'm sure they feel some relief maybe.
As for Obi Topping, he's playing for a championship. He
even said it after the game. I'm telling you, this
team's feeling it. I've worked my whole life to be
in the position I'm in now. He said, Oh yeah,
(09:49):
he made a pair of free throws in the fourth
quarter of the comeback really turned serious. In all, Obi
Topping seventeen points, five of eight on three pointers, five rebounds,
and the only played twenty five minutes. There's one little
thing here, and I'm not going to pin this on OKC,
but you can, for game one, for all of their efficiency,
(10:10):
for all their ability to blow teams out, for all
of their dominance against particularly the East, the Thunder occasionally
dealt with a little issue, a little bugabooll that actually
happened during the regular season, but you don't notice it
when you only lose fourteen games. They lost fourth quarter
leads many times. Perhaps it was an annoyance. Perhaps it
(10:32):
was let's not worry about it. We dealt with it
in the regular season. If it happens in the postseason,
we'll deal with it. You saw some minor issues of
that nature against the Western Conference semi Finals against Denver.
But when the thunder closed down strongly in Game seven
and no one brought it up again, well not quite again.
(10:53):
The defense forced nineteen turnovers in the first half. Even
Alex Caruso said it. We played good enough to win.
We just didn't finish the game. When you're not used
to having to have to do that, and you're playing
against the team and that's where they live. Enter the
(11:14):
aforementioned Rick Carlisle and the Indiana Pacers. Well this is
what you get. We've got ourselves a series. I don't
know what happens Sunday night, but I do think it'll
be hard fought. I do think it will be swings.
I do think you'll get Max effort out. Okay, see,
but remember the Pacers have Rick Carlile. I know a
(11:38):
thing or two about Rick Carlisle. And remember this redemption
is good for the soul. Imagine returning to the scene
of the crime twenty years later and bringing a championship
that was supposed to happen No. Four to oh five,
Now it might happen in twenty four to twenty five.
This time, there is no mouth of the palace would
(12:00):
sing a song, said Indiana wants me. I can't, but
I can't go back there. Don't tell that to Rick Carlisle.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
So much stuff to talk about in the world of
the NBA three simple words. It's that time, Madina Magic Mark,
Madina our Fox Sports Radio NBA guru. You hear all
around the network and certainly on this show pretty much
fifty two weeks out of the year. Well, Mark, I
(13:24):
close out every segment by saying, can't wait to see
what the headlines are next week?
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Well, we have so many.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
I just hope to get to them all, and I
certainly will get to the NBA Finals coming up. But
I definitely want to start with Tom Thibodeau, Mark, because
now that the dust is settled and the shock has
worn off, even though we had a very successful five
years Coach of the Year blah blah blah, you don't
fire Tom Thibodeau with three years and thirty million on
(13:52):
a contract. The contract extension just got just because you
losing the conference finals. I'm not buying that you fire
them because you want to. And the question is when
did they want to? Do you think this decision Mark
was made before the playoffs even started.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I don't think a decision was made in so in fairness,
they got eliminated, but I think to the broader point,
they certainly thought about it. I think it's one of
those things similar to a marriage. You know, a divorce
doesn't happen once you sign the papers and file the
thought bruce in your head. But I don't think that
they made a final decision until after the season was over,
(14:30):
after they had some extit meetings with players. But to
be clear, I don't think the players influenced anything here
because Jalen Brunson was very pro Tom Thibodeau. I think
the results really showed positive parts of his influence versus
the negative. And I think this even though you know
(14:51):
they've had a better track record as of late with
Leanne Rose is part of the front office, I think
this is mostly James Dolan, you know, not not being
satisfied with the end result and rolling the dice here.
But you know, I would argue that for whatever shortcomings
Tom Thibodeau had with how he managed rotations or late
(15:13):
game decisions that led to them squandering wins, I would
counter with this one. He set the tone with his
work ethic preparation for the rest of the guys. He
played a huge part in them getting the finals for
the first time in twenty five years, and the shortcomings
that he had of not using his bench enough or
(15:34):
making enough adjustments. Well, it's a roster issue. He wasn't
using his bench enough because they didn't have consistent players
and making adjustments late in the game. This is mostly
on the team. They had double digit leads, and you
know it was a combination of karl anthy Towns was
foul trouble and just bad decision making. It mostly led
(15:57):
to this. So you know, when James Dolan is the
owner of the next sometimes that's to throw out reason
out the window.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
What's interesting is you, in a sense made a case
they should have kept him. Guys like mckel Okay, fair enough,
I can accept that, but Mikal Bridges openly complained about
playing too many minutes and that's when things started to
go sideways. And now other players are coming out and saying,
I don't know who these named players are, but they
don't weren't sure if they could play next year if
(16:30):
if Thibodaux returned. Having said that, okay, I was shocked,
because let's go back to eight years before Thibodeau was hired.
Had Mike Woodson, Derek Fisher, Kurt Ramis, Jeff Hornishek David
remember David Fizdale. There's a clown Mike Miller. They had
a combined two hundred and thirty eight regular season wins.
Thibodeau by himself in five years had two hundred and
(16:51):
twenty six and pretty you know, successful the playoffs, and
I thought they overachieved this year. Having said all that,
rather than you know, ruminate about what could have been
or when they made the decision, let's look forward, because
I'm going to give you I hate the term hot take,
I don't know what the hell it means, but I
want to give you one. I think Jason kit will
be their next coach.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
I know that next. Certainly want Jason Kidd to be
their next head coach. I don't know about that, to
be honest, Bernie, because first they have to get permission
from the Dallas Mavericks to interview them and else. I'm
sure they'll certainly make that effort. But the Mavericks have
the number one pick and no one is expecting them
to trade this. It's going to go to drafting Cooper Flag.
(17:36):
So I could understand maybe Jason Kidd having interest if
they didn't have the number one pick. Obviously, there's frustration
with what happened with the Lukadota trade and Kyrie Irving
at having a lot of question marks about his health
next season because of his acl you know, best case
scenarios he returns midway through the season. The other part,
(17:58):
Andy Davis, even though he's been a model citizen, great professional,
hard worker, his injury history is his injury history. But
I think Cooper Flag changes all this. You know, if
I'm Jason Kidd, I don't want to leave the chance
to coach a generational talent in Cooper Flag. So the Knicks,
you know, they got to the Eastern Conference Finals. Their
(18:19):
future is bright assuming they whether they make a major
move improve on the margins. But I think the long
term trajectory for the Dallas Mavericks is a lot higher
because of Cooper Flag. I just don't see Jason Kidd
going there because of that whole factor.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Here's what I'm hearing that.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
The Luka Doncic decision changed the dynamic between Jason Kidd
and the organization quite a bit. I'm hearing that, and
I think we'd love a chance. Well I don't know
if he'd love a chance, but he certainly wouldn't be
a bad deal to go coach his old buddy Jason
Brunson in New York where they had pretty good success
in Dallas while he was there. Uh, just my thoughts,
(19:05):
just to thought. You know, I said, lot, it was
never going to be you know, Jay Wright, you.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Know, forget.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I mean, i mean, come on, people are mentioning Rick Patino,
Mark Jackson, I mean, everybody but Red Clock's you got
the last word on this.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
I'm just thrown it out there.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
I think that Michael Malone, that's his name out I mean,
he won.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Why would you why would you hear that guy?
Speaker 5 (19:24):
Well, yeah, exactly. He Look he's a very good head
coach was two years ago. But he's he's Tom Thibodeau White.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
I mean forces for courses and this is the wrong course.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Yeah, and he you know, he got fired from Denver
partly because he wasn't playing his young guy, so he
would manage the rotation the same way. I think with
Jason Kidd, what you said is all true dynamic change.
After the Luka Dog trade, I thought it was telling
that he said in past they know, yeah, it kind
of reminds me of you know, the Babe Ruth trade.
(19:56):
And he was saying that as like a cool trivia question.
But you know, the aftermathic trade does not sit well
with Boston fans. You know, the curse of the Vambino
lived on until they finally won the World Series in
two thousand and four. All that's true, but again, getting
the number one pick, presumably getting Cooper Flag, that's going
(20:16):
to change everything. Now they say the Mavericks stumble the
ball here and they traded the pick. They well, now
it could change, but no one. I've talked to some
people around the league, you know, other GMS executive's. No
one's thinking that Nico Harrison's going to do that. They
you know, I know that he got a lot of
flat for trading Luka Dondrich, but you know he's not
going to trade the number one pick here because there's
(20:37):
no absolutely nothing of value that he could get for that.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
There's no way, there's no way that's going to happen.
We wouldn't even waste any time on that. Last thought
about the Knicks, is there a Yannis connection here and
that there's a world where Giannie is a Nick and
if there's a certain coach that gets tired, Yannix is
gonna find his way there.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
You can you got to yeah, and you know what,
like that can very well change things. I'm sure the
Knicks are very interested in Giannis on Stacompo. I know
there's other reports out there suggesting as much. But if
I'm Milwaukee Bucks, like what am I interested in the
Knicks for if it's not Jalen Brunton and Bruns is
not going anywhere. But the Knicks only have three first
round picks. They tried five first round picks to get
(21:21):
Michale Burgers. I think they need more than that to
get Yannis, And obviously you would include Karlmpine Downtowns as
part of that trade package, and that's all fair game.
I think his strength out weigh his weaknesses as far
as being a stretch five great score could be a
better defender. But you know I'm the Milwaukee Bucks. I'm
(21:41):
not taking that too. So yeah, I know the next
will be relentless with that and throwing trade scenarios. But
unless Jalen Brunt is part of the trade, I just
don't see Yannis going to the next right and we
know that.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
I don't think Malone will or Jay Wright, So you know,
you tell me which press conversation exactly like.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
I have fourth Ialk to Meta Santaford our test this week,
he's all paying hard for the next.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I see that to the truth. But you know, Taylor Jenkins,
it ain't gonna be Danny Hurley, Chris Quinn. I like
Jiff and Gunny, but they're not gonna be able to
sell that press conference.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
I think, yeah, I think there's someone like you know,
Johnny Bryant. He was a finalist for the Phoenix job.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Do you again.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
But again, like they're litmus test is they have to
at least get to the NBA Finals contend for a championship.
There's no head coach that's available that will get them there.
They should have just kept Thibodeau and improved around the
margins and try to run him back. I mean, the
Eastern Conference landscapes wide open. Boston's gonna probably have a
down yere because Jason Tatum it's going to be nurse
(22:46):
Nick killes injuries, so he's not back next season. You know,
y'allas have the Takuba. I don't think he's going to
the next but he's going somewhere, so that team's in peril.
The Sixers have a lot of issues with their injuries.
You know, really, it's the Cleveland Cavaliers are the Knicks.
So yeah, I mean, I know it's fashionable to blame
the head coaches, but you literally got to Game six
(23:06):
of the NBA Finals they're going to fire a head
coach there. I mean, I think it's just a complete nonsense.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Well, I have to exit out Johnny Bryant.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
He was a Thibodeau's associate head coach before he left
for the Cavaliers in twenty twenty four. Yeah, do you
really hire a guy who's going to have to learn
on the job.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
No, I mean, that's this isn't It's not just okay,
this is the Knicks. It's just that their criteria they
have to win a championship or at least get to
the finals. So hiring an assistant coach doesn't do that.
You know, I would say, even in fairness to meta,
he doesn't have head coaching experience obviously, and you know
he's not a candidate, but you know, the idea he
(23:48):
could be on someone's staff as an assistant coach, player
development coach. Even that's tough because again, their criteria is
so high and so unrealistic. I get it. It's the Knicks.
It's similar to the Lakers, but there has to be
a realistic criteria here for them to succeed. And I
fear that even though their front office has moved in
(24:09):
the right direction with getting good voices, Leon Rose Gers
Rosas Rosas is now there, here's the Minnesota Timberwolves. I
fear that James Dolan is now you know, at the
steering wheel, and we've known what's happened historically when he's
done that. It's just led to them being a punchline.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Talking with Mark Medina Adina Magic every Saturday n of
the Bernie Frado Show, Yeah, well, we didn't even talk
about dealing with the media.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
And so that's another reason I think I think Jason
Kid could handle it.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
And that'dia to be clear. He can handle it. He's
a great head coach. I just don't see compared to
where he's at now, for all the dysfunction Dallas went through,
you're going to coach Cooper Flag like this is a
generational talent here. I just don't see him leave it.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Well, Luca was a generational talent too, and I love
Cooper Flag, but he's got to play a game in
the NBA. Yeah, you know, speaking of that, Zach Edy,
how do you sprain an ankle? The regular season is
four and a half months away, and yet you may
not be ready for the opening week.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
What am I missing on, Zach Edy?
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Yeah, I'm the side myself too. I mean, it's an
ankle sprain, So I get. I get obviously you're going
to spend your summer trying to rehab. You know, it
doesn't help that he's gonna have surgery to have it.
But I don't get that how this ultimately signs the
lines here from the beginning of the season. Now, what's clear,
it's to be clear here. This isn't the season ending Andrew,
(25:43):
but the fact that he's going to miss the beginning
this season. It's confound in to say.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
The least, it is before I get to the NBA Finals.
I really can't wait for Game two KD. You know,
he's still a pretty big headline even during the NBA
is where does he end up next year?
Speaker 5 (26:02):
You know, it's unpopular. I think he ends up with
Miami Heat. I mean, it seems unrealistic. But here's why
I think it's more realistic than the other options. He's
not going to the Knicks for the same convo that
we talked about with Giannis. I don't think he's going
to go to the Houston Rockets. I think the Rockets,
even though they like Kevin Durant, they don't want to
(26:23):
give up the farm to get him. The same thing
with the San Antonio Spurs. And so I think what
we a see Kevin Durant went healthy on the court.
He's still one of the best scorers in the game.
I mean, he is so efficient. The only problem is
there's two things. He's had a lot of injuries ever
since his achilles in twenty nineteen. And he makes a
(26:44):
lot of money and he deserves every penny of it.
But when it comes to just salary cap and roster construction,
teams are having to give up a lot here and
so where does Miami entered the picture. Even though their
litmus tests has always been they want to keep their depth,
they still want to be playoff team. I want to
be surprised if they move their parameters a little bit
(27:05):
because of the fact that they got swept in the
first round in Cleveland. So that's not to say they're
going to trade bam Adebio Tyler Hero. I think that
there will still be with the Heat, but you know,
you package players like Andrew Wiggins, Ima Hawkins, Junior Duncan Robinson.
I think a first round pick they still have. It's
(27:26):
not great, but frankly, the Suns are in a position
of weakness here because they know that it's not sustainable
for them to keep Kevin Durant. They flamed out or
early these last two seasons ever since they got him,
and I think that's, frankly, the best offer that the
Sons are going to get. So it doesn't sound like
a great deal on paper, but I think he winds
(27:48):
up with Miami Heat.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Ever so quickly, A Buck cheddar on Twitter just tweeted
at us and said, Giannis isn't going anywhere. Is that
in the mix?
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Do you think as far as him.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Said, he didn't think Yi is going anywhere. He's staying
with the Bucks.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
I mean, in fairness, he hasn't asked Milwaukee to trade him.
I think, knowing how the Bucks operate, they want to
proceed until they do. But I think what's going to
happen here is that Giannis is going to connect the
dots here, even with the Eastern Conference landscape being what
it is, they've lost the first round three consecutive years.
There's a lot of injury questions about Damian Lowerd next season.
(28:27):
You know, even if you improve on the margins, doesn't
do it much. And there's nothing negative about Giannis's game
where he's at in his career. Same with the same
to him. With the Bucks. They've been very aggressive in
trying to make you know, win now moves to surround
them with the best talent around him. It just hasn't worked.
Saying they're just both parties are going to come to
the conclusion, you know what, it's been a great run,
(28:49):
but we're better off making a very tough but necessary decision.
So I don't think he's with the Bucks next season.
But where he ends up, I don't think it's New York.
I'm not sure where he's going to go. The only
thing I do know, he's not going to be from
the Walking next season.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Fair enough, I'm in agreement.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Shutter does not agree with us though, but no, he is,
as I've always said, the most boring conversations when everyone agrees.
So yeah, you know, onward and up. In the two
couple of minutes we got remaining, I want to dive
into the NBA Finals before I do there was a minor,
minor tempest in a teapot because there were no the
(29:28):
television did not broadcast the national anthem, nor did you
see the starting lines and all the pomp and circumstance.
Was that attentional? Obviously must have been your thoughts. Is
the NBA going to do that every game? And what
was he thinking?
Speaker 5 (29:42):
Yeah, well, they had the national anthem play before the game.
Now as far as why was a televised I don't
know this. It's just knowing how TV operates. It's probably
more from them wanting to maximize commercial time. I think
a bigger thing about the lack of war goes on
the court. You know Adam Silver, you know, with that
(30:03):
NBA Cares event and he said that, you know, they're
going to consider changing things next season. I'm just beside myself.
Even though they explained, you know, there's been concerns in
the last years about you know, player feedback that it
creates slippery you know, a slippery court. It's the NBA Finals.
You want to have a good visual. They do all
(30:23):
these different court colors and designs for the NBA Cup
and you know, we know the NBA Cup, even though
the NBA is trying to promote, it doesn't have any
importance compared to the NBA Finals. So I'm just beside myself.
They didn't have this right from the jump.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Fair enough, good, good commentary. Last thing?
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Can the Indiana Pacers win three of the next six games?
And I don't know if you've heard of my opening commentary.
I got a lot of history with Rick Carlisle. I
think the world of them, I really do, and I
think Mark there's an interesting circle of life story developing here.
I talked to my buddy Jeremy shapp about it, and
four to five he had a very good Carlisle had
(31:06):
a very good Pacers team in the November nineteen till
four the Mouse at the Palace, of which afore mentioned
we're on our test, yeah, and one of the funniest
coats of all time after the fight in locker whom
we looked at Stephen Jackson and said, do you think
we're in trouble anyway? Twenty years later, now the circle
of life in what Carlisle was expected to do in
four and five he may do in twenty four and
twenty five. Give me a quick take on the rest
(31:28):
of the series. In the unions, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
I still favor the Thunder will win the series. I
favor the Thunder to win Game two. I think Jael
Wims and shut Holme Gern will shoot the ball a
lot better. They'll be more disciplined with their turnover shape,
Godess Alexander will continue to play at the high level.
But look, Indiana is a real deal. They're not a
fluke team. They've come back from behind and a lot
of games. Tyrese Alburn has hit four game winning shots.
(31:51):
They have a great team, play at a fast pace
to shoot the ball well. Pascal Siakam is a very
consistent number two, and Rick Carlins ahead of a as
a hell of a coach. I think it's fitting that
he brought his time up with Indiana, and you know
how things got disrupted because of the palace brawl. I
talked with him at a run our tests this week
(32:12):
and he likened Rick Carlisle. Hear me out. He compared
him to Gnaws, the hip hop artists, and the reason
why he did is both people have enduring success and
they've been able to innovate. So he was talking about
Rick Carlisle in the contrast of how during his time
there was a lot more structure. There's a lot more
play calling here, you know. They he allows the guys
(32:36):
to call their own plays and he doesn't call a
lot of time outs. I think it was a very
revealing decision that the final play when Tyree said the
game winner and they didn't call time out because he
trusts how they play on the floor. I think the
other thing, you know, where Ron got really serious was
he's saying, hey, if it wasn't for me, he would
have won multiple championships by now, not just one. So
(32:58):
he's a very elite coach, and we have to keep
in mind he's already won a championship that happened in
twenty eleven with a very good Dallas Mavericks team with
Turk Novitski and Jason Kidd, a lot of depth. But
it was against the Miami Heat the first year of
the Super team with Lebron, James, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade,
and I think that you have to credit where Carlisle's
(33:18):
coaching shops for one of the many reasons why they
want in six games in Miami and he's still been
a lead ever since.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Well, I love on our test. Actually, and if people
actually know who knows is, it's actually really not a
bad comparison.
Speaker 7 (33:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
I laughed at first, but when he explains, like, you
know what, yeah, makes sense.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Hey, great stuff, buddy. You always wish we had more
time ready to go for next week. We'll see what
the headlines bring us.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
I appreciate you, man.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
Thanks Mark, Mark Medida Adida magic every Saturday night here
in the Bernie Frattles Show. Yep, there's just so much
to talk about in the NBA and Bay By then,
I think by next week it's just time to play
the lead. One more game, right, they play Sunday, they
play again Wednesday. Yeah, okay, somebody will be up two
games to one or maybe three games or nothing. Next
Saturday coming up. Well, in eighteen minutes, it's the midnight
(34:12):
hour here in Vegas. Eight seven seven nine ninety six
six three six nine eight seven seven nine to nine Fox.
We got some great topics tonight. Callers have been great.
I certainly you know, am looking forward to folks commentaries
one of our subjects. One of our subjects tonight is
coming in way out of left field. You'll see what
I mean. But I bet it might en listen to
some of the most interesting comments. Hold that thought, I'm
(34:34):
Bernie fraddleworck coming to your line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports
Radio Studios, don't go away, or listening to the Bernie
Fraddles Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back on
the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. We are eleven
minutes away from the midnight hour from where I sit
in Las Vegas. It will literally be twelve midnight, perhaps
same where you sit, but certainly figuratively it's going to
(34:55):
be twelve midnight for all of us, which means you
get the last word eight seven seven nine nine six
six six nine aged seven seven ninety nine on Fox
topic number one, how can not be Aaron Rodgers? But
here's the deal. Let's let's take a deeper dive into this,
because it is all over the map in terms of
people thinking is merely tarnishing his resume. It's his late
(35:19):
career embrace born out of necessity by both sides. In
the one am hour, I'm gonna give a journalistic commentary
on the pros and cons and whether this is a
fit and whether it can work. But as a fan,
do you like this? Are you happy? This finally happened.
I said two weeks ago on the show, June tenth
was the drop dead date mini Camp. Well, they're gonna
be here. And by the way, I've found through people
(35:41):
that this was in the works the whole time.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
This was never not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Aaron Rodgers, I guess, was upfront behind closed doors with
the stealers and said, I got some personal issues I'm
working through. We'll get this done and I'll be here
for many camp. And that's what happened. But are you
happy as a fan? Are you pissed? Is this a
buyer beware? Because we know Aaron Rodgers is idiosyncratic and
that's on a good day. Will this succeed? Will it fail?
(36:06):
Are you rooting for it to fail? Are you rooting
for it to succeed? Which one fail or succeed? And
that's good because the opposite of love is not hate,
it's indifference. No one got this pissed off. When Drew
Bletsoe tried to have one last turrial with the Cowboys, right,
(36:27):
no one got this pissed off. And Warren Moon went
to Seattle or Carson Palmer went to Arizona. It's Aaron Rodgers.
I want to get your thoughts and all those things.
I just mentioned the second topic, and here's where I
came in out of left field, and see what I
did there. You know, there was a time when you
mentioned the word steroids in radio and callers would line up.
(36:49):
Between two thousand and three and two thousand and eight.
I know Rob Parker will remember this. We did it
well over two hundred shows to get our Detroit for
ninety seven to one. The ticket wasn't the ticket then
it was w KRKS flagship including pre and postal. You'd
mentioned steroids and boom right. Well, these days it's become pass.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
But guess what. Guys are still getting suspended.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
You just had a situation where Yurickson profar Atlanta Breys outfielder.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
I mean, he's got a bunch.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Of guaranteed money, and it caused former, you know, a
major leaguer, Eric Cosmer to say he believes the punishments
are players who violate the PDE Dark Policy should be
much harsher. He should. He's basically said, if you get
suspended for eighty games for PDS, you lose all the
money remaining without pay. You lose all of it whether
(37:38):
you got one hundred and ten million coming or forty
million dollars bothe ever, Okay, do you think that's a
good idea. But here's the flip side. You're going to
get a hell of a kick out of this. In
twenty twenty six in Las Vegas, there's a group for
a Memorial Day weekend putting something together called the Enhanced Games. Yes,
(37:59):
they're they're calling it the safest sporting event in history,
competition like track and field, swimming, weightlifting, and you are
allowed to use steroids, use them all you want, eat
them like candy. Right, it's rather than you know, we're
gonna get into this in future shows. But tell me
what you think of the idea of the Enhanced Olympics. Hey,
(38:20):
Mark Cuban said a fifteen years ago, screw it. Just
let everybody use steroids. You don't want to use me,
you don't have to. Yes, it'll be perhaps an unfair
advantage of those who do it versus those who don't,
say LEVI. So do you like the Enhanced Games? Do
you agree with Eric Cosmer? Aaron Rodgers? You know we're
going with that, and I'll reset it up at the
top of the hour.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
The third topic.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
I wasn't gonna touch this, but I had to cause
you know, if you'd have gone to the Chicago Sky
Indiana Fever tonight.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Remember the rematch.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Caitlin Clark Andrew Reese, the thirty eight point blowout May twentieth,
in which the shock around the world was the foul
that led to a furre Well. People paid four than
thirty four bucks a ticket to go see Caitlin Clark
play an exhibition game in Iowa versus Brazil. You could
get into the game Saturday night for three bucks. Three bucks. Oh,
(39:10):
I forgot to tell you. Kitlin Clark didn't play and
was announced she wouldn't play. Ticket prices plummeted hashtag Angel Reese.
We know they're all coming to see you, Angel, but
one publication went so far as I say, Caitlin Clark
is now the Tiger Woods of the WNBA issue. So
we're gonna talk about Aaron Rodgers, happy man, pissed, rooting
(39:30):
for him, rooting against him. What's gonna happen? You know
it's must watch TV. You can't tell me it's not
the enhanced games All steroids coming to Vegas or do
you believe with Eric Cosmer. Hey, you know, make them
lose all their money if they violate it. And is
Caitlin Clark? Is she the Tiger Woods of the WNBA.
Eight seven seventy nine one Fox. It's the Midnight Hour
(39:51):
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. Bernie Frawder show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fodder. We're
comedy line for the Fox Sports Radio studios here in
Las Vegas. Will take you after three am Pacific, six
am Eastern. Just getting started. Well, another interesting week in sports.
(40:19):
Aaron Rodgers. We're gonna talk a little steroids and maybe
even a little ange Reese. If you wanted to go
to the game Saturday night between the Sky and the Fever,
you can get it for three bucks. Three bucks, yup,
It's time for the Midnight Hour eight seven, seven nine
nine six six three six nine eight seven seven nine
(40:40):
to nine on Fox. Callars have been fabulous over the
weeks and months and years. I expect tonight to be
no different. We've got three saucy topics. We begin in
San Diego with Poppy Poppy, your darn padres blew a
chance to take a lead on the Dodgers tonight in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
But I digress.
Speaker 8 (40:59):
Yeah, it's okay, Bernie. They'll have to bounce back a
little bit. But you know, I love the when you
open up the with Medina Magic, Bernie and you so
Medina Magic. No, Jonath is gonna stay in Milwaukee. I
love that. No different opinionies.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Well I didn't say that.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
No one of the tweeters at me, I said he's
going to stay.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
I'm not so sure about that.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
But I'd love to hear your thoughts on Aaron Rodgers
and the steroid thing, and maybe even a little love
the NBA.
Speaker 8 (41:29):
Yeah, well, you know, Aaron Rodgers opened up the thing.
It's interesting because a lot of people are like, we're
getting tired about that and stuff like that. At the
end of the day, Aaron Rodgers is a human being
like all of us. He has his personal issues he's
going on, and sometimes we as a sports fans or
not the average Joe sports fans, like, oh.
Speaker 7 (41:48):
What he's doing.
Speaker 8 (41:49):
He's doing too much drama. He always does this. He's
doing hulus to Wasco.
Speaker 9 (41:53):
Why isn't going to Peru?
Speaker 8 (41:54):
Why isn't going to Aja? Who's he's seen the Egyptian Lover.
Maybe that's gonna help up. But at the end of
the day, he's got his own personal problems and I
hope he getting better and he cured himself and his
mental health, and I was very excited. I'm like, yeah,
I'm gonna see Aaron Rodgers. I'm not an analytic guy,
but dropping some numbers on you guys. Aaron Rodgers had
twenty eight passing touch out lafter them. Patrick Mahons had
(42:16):
twenty six, So okay, he still has it.
Speaker 10 (42:19):
We're gonna see what he's gonna do with the.
Speaker 8 (42:20):
Sailors and d DJ DK METCALT and I'm interested about that.
So I'm betterning for.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Yeah, that's that's the key, and I'm going to talk
about this at the one o'clock hour. Pittsburgh has a
potentially great defense. They got much better pass protection the
Jets have. You know, they got a savvy coach. Look,
I think this can actually work. But so you're glad
Rogers is back anything on steroids of the WNBA, Well,
(42:47):
start Roy's.
Speaker 8 (42:48):
I think it's just Shenanigan's not interested in that.
Speaker 10 (42:50):
But I do want to talk about the WNBA.
Speaker 8 (42:52):
I was you know, a WNBA plan, like everybody want
to see Clayton Garney, Clayton Clark. You know, Clayton Clark,
you know, Clark against Angel Rees. Yeah you said the
tickets were like three dollars. I saw some tickets were
going as as fifty cents. So I'm like, I was
not to do the little games, you know, you know,
(43:12):
by by the tip guy by the tip and buy low,
you know, buy low and go to those games, you know.
Speaker 10 (43:19):
And all right, so it's.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Caitlin Clark now officially Tiger Woods. I mean, if Tiger
was not Day four, people didn't watch as much. I mean,
I'm not saying this, but one publication went so far
as to say this.
Speaker 8 (43:30):
Yeah, she's a great, all time great. It's kind of
like comparing her to Michael Jordan, Like everyone wanted to
go see Michael Jordan back in the days, and yeah Clark.
With then WNBA, she's making changes, as you can see
on the ticket prices. It's not as much as the
w NBA tomorrow with.
Speaker 11 (43:48):
The finals, you know, the Thunder and.
Speaker 8 (43:50):
The Pacers, that's going to be a great one and
I do want to see that one. And I really
love the Thunder minus eleven in my opinion, don't bounce back.
But with w NBA Clark, she's the real deal.
Speaker 7 (44:01):
She's a great player.
Speaker 8 (44:02):
And if you guys don't appreciate a great mess right
now when she's playing, when she's gone, you guys are
gonna feel bad. So whenever you get a chance and
she's on tour on wasn't a lot of time, why
not buy your ticket and go see her?
Speaker 2 (44:13):
All right? Thanks, Poppy, appreciate you man. By the way,
just a quick note on the steroid thing. You may
not know it's been. In the last year, there's been
four major leaguers that have been suspended for steroids.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Now you only heard of.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
One of them, Yorick's and Profar, But in the last
five years there's been several big names. You know Robinson Cano,
you remember Fernando Tatisa. I racked on him a couple
of years ago. So this is an issue. Jim in Massachusetts,
always look forward to what you've got to say.
Speaker 9 (44:38):
You got the floor, what Bernie, I'll tell you what, Bernie.
Aaron Rodgers going to Pittsburgh. I can't wait to watch
this because he ain't gonna he ain't gonna pull all
that crap that he pulled up in those other cities,
not in Pittsburgh, because he'll get straightened out in that
locker room, and then if he gets out of there,
(44:58):
he's got to get out of the stadium and go
home with those fans. And I think he knows that
he's played long enough to know the history of all.
Speaker 12 (45:07):
Different teams, and I can't wait to watch.
Speaker 9 (45:10):
I think he's going to do good things in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
I really do.
Speaker 7 (45:14):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
I kind of do too, Jim, I kind of do too.
And listen, he doesn't. He's going the Hall of Fame
for a reason. He's a four time MVP for reasons.
He had one last run on him. We're gonna find out.
But I'm kind of in agreement with you. What are
your thoughts in this whole steroid thing in this enhanced League?
Speaker 9 (45:32):
Well, you know what, steroid thing. The steroid thing really
upsets me, Bernie. They want to do that. Anybody that
applies to go do that. The first thing they ought
to do is make them watch Lyle l Zada a
football life. That's all they gotta do. Because steroids may
help you now, but twenty five years down the road,
it shuts down your liver.
Speaker 11 (45:53):
It just that there's nothing you can do.
Speaker 9 (45:54):
So why even bother doing that?
Speaker 2 (45:57):
Well, because get there, they've come, so they've they've done
so good at gaming the system. But here's the thing.
Eric Cosmer has now said. You remember Eric Cosmer, He said,
you know when your's in profile, which just suspended a
couple months ago, he's only gonna lose about six million,
but he just signed a three or forty two million
dollar contract.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
Hawsford said he should lose the whole damn thing.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
And if all of a sudden, you just got one
hundred million dollars deal on the line for the next
three years you're hoping to sign, you could possibly lose that.
That he thinks solves the problem your thoughts.
Speaker 9 (46:28):
I think you're right, Bernie. I think the league ought
to do that. And let's see what the Players Association
says in.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
All the leaks.
Speaker 9 (46:35):
If you get caught with steroids.
Speaker 7 (46:37):
You're gonna you're gonna lose your money.
Speaker 9 (46:39):
Money talks everything else, walks Bernie.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
So when you think about these.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Enhanced games coming to Vegas Memorial Day weekend twenty twenty six,
be like a big track beat swing event waits oh yeah,
and they're crawling against the third olympiad.
Speaker 9 (46:53):
Yeah right, okay, and Angel Reefs and all that with
the Scott you know, and and Caitlin Cott. Caitlin Clark
is so great because she had a good support system.
She had good parent parenting growing up, she had a
good educational system behind her and everything. And that's why
where she is today and why she mentally, mentally is
(47:17):
handling all this crap that's going on going on with her.
And I'll tell you right now. The first thing is,
I don't think Angel Reese will be in the w
NBA in two years. And I think they'll leave if
they don't smarten up. We'll be closed within five years.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
Well, Jim, they lose forty million a year. I don't
get it. I get it, but I don't. I'll leave
you this thought about injur Reese. Where else can you
go watch someone shoot twenty two percent from the floor
and get ten rebounds because five are off the shots
she missed that center. That's high value, isn't it, Jim Seamen?
Speaker 9 (47:51):
That cost effective basketball right there?
Speaker 2 (47:55):
Forty million this year? We're the WNBA, all right, Jim
always acid? Yeah, thanks, Jim. Look I'm not root for
him to go away. If someone wants to be Santa Claus,
who am I? But I've never had the luxury of
working for a business. It's just, oh, what the hell?
We can lose forty million every year, we can plainly
a paid enough and you know, and all all right,
(48:16):
don't get me started. Eric in New York. Welcome to
the Bernie Frattle Show. How are you good?
Speaker 6 (48:21):
How you doing?
Speaker 2 (48:22):
So?
Speaker 6 (48:22):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (48:24):
All right? But what do you got for us tonight?
These three topics?
Speaker 6 (48:27):
Okay, about basketball? For the new head coach of the Knicks,
I want early there, but really from Yukon.
Speaker 2 (48:37):
Yeah, Danny Hurley. I don't think he's going to be
in the mix. But that's fair that you want him.
Speaker 6 (48:40):
I mean he's good and also I do like Tammy. I'micker.
I think he'll fit pretty good. You know he might
get He coached Shalford.
Speaker 5 (48:51):
So he's very smart.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
I remember him at Michigan too.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Real quickly, any thoughts on the Aaron Rodgers situation.
Speaker 9 (48:58):
Oh, I think he's gonna stick up.
Speaker 6 (48:59):
The Joe and you know he hasn't any count you know,
you might, I don't, you know, I like, you know,
what I like the name Bernie. Why is my uncle
was the name was Bernie.
Speaker 9 (49:13):
We called them Bernie.
Speaker 7 (49:15):
The attorney.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
You know that rhymes? Man, you might have a future
as a poet. You don't even know it. Eric, I
appreciate you. Go ahead, go ahead, get the last word quick.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
Okay.
Speaker 8 (49:28):
You know brend and Nemo for the Mets.
Speaker 2 (49:30):
Yeah, ive seen him play many times. Great player.
Speaker 9 (49:33):
Yeah when he when he drew was a walk.
Speaker 6 (49:35):
He's with the Dodgers prints the first base and it's great.
Speaker 9 (49:39):
It's good enthusiasm, all.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
Right, Eric, I appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (49:44):
Man.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
We take them all here on the midnight hour. As
you can see.
Speaker 5 (49:48):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (49:48):
I like Eric uh And.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
I'm not sure what his subject matter had to do
what we're talking about, but this is America, man, live.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
How you want to live?
Speaker 13 (49:58):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Spocksweed joins us up in Oregon. The artist is currently
knowing as Spotswed. Where do you want to start? You
want to start with Aaron? You want to start with steroids?
Speaker 9 (50:05):
You want to I didn't know I was an artist,
but this is terrific.
Speaker 14 (50:09):
Thank you for the for the props, dude, Aaron Rodgers,
I love it. I mean everything Aaron Rodgers does He's
got his issues, but you know that's his brand now
it turns out, and you know, leaning into all his
issues and being aloof and all that kind of stuff.
He's going to be great for the for the Pittsburgh Steelers,
(50:31):
not necessarily playing for them, but I mean it, I've
got a.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
Feeling he might keep tell me that that opening night
game at the New York Jets is not just be
absolute must eve by c TV.
Speaker 14 (50:47):
Oh yeah, they're going to put it on on Amazon
and make sure everybody pays a pretty penny for that thing. Probably,
and whatever he does, well, whether it's just crappy, it
doesn't matter, it's it is absolutely must see television. I
wonder can I mean I know that you know Tomlin
and him go go back and they have good relationship.
Speaker 5 (51:07):
But can he be coached at this?
Speaker 3 (51:10):
Absolutely? Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
I'm hearing stories that he spent a lot of time
around the weight room and he actually won a lot
of players over. They don't really know him until you've
been in your locker room. And he walked in and
two guys were doing max bench and just working their
butt off, and Aaron Rockston walked in and goes and
I guess he walked in and say, hey, guys, are
you ready to start working out? You're gonna just keep
fing around, they laughed. I guess he's got a you know,
(51:32):
odd since look, I'm giving this a chance. I'm keeping
an open mind, and I got a funny feeling. I
got a funny feeling this is gonna work. But look
they won. They won ten games last year with freaking
justin fields and and and and Russell Wilson. Then they
won nine the year before with can you Pickett? And I,
by the way, can you pick it? If Steve and
Tennis a starter? Anything on my steroids stuff?
Speaker 3 (51:55):
Unba, Well, first of.
Speaker 14 (51:57):
All, gonna tell you your funny feelings because they're eating
way too many lunchable I think.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
So I was going, you know, you know my routine,
don't you. I'm a simple guy, all right.
Speaker 14 (52:09):
But the steroid thing is, I mean, I would tune
into that just to see it. I kind of hate
to see it. You know, it will draw some eyes
and it will be interesting to see what's going on.
But god, steroids are so damn dangerous, and you know
these dudes are going.
Speaker 15 (52:26):
To be be roided out and they're going to die
in their in.
Speaker 14 (52:28):
Their fifties if they to go for that, and it's
encouraging that I think is kind of a mistaken is
a disservice, but you know, people are free will, as
we both know, and that's the way it is.
Speaker 3 (52:42):
On that real quickly, just a.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
Few seconds anything on the fact, you could have got
into the Chicago's guy and I gain tonight for three bucks.
Speaker 14 (52:51):
Three to three bucks would have meant really cheap beer also,
which is what you need if you're watching the w NBA,
especially without Kaylin Clark.
Speaker 16 (53:00):
Angel Reef.
Speaker 14 (53:02):
There's people that are that are watching. The bros are
watching the WNBA to see Angel Reese ever makes the
first shot of the game.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
Good stuff, Fusbox, you keeping v you keep it real
up there, and we're going to always appreciate you, buddy. Look,
you're all getting into that, okay, Maddie in South Carolina,
Emmett and Olympia and Mike the Leprechaun, you're all up
next eight seven seven ninety nine nine six six three
six nine eight seven, seven nine to nine on Fox.
(53:30):
I want to hear your thoughts on Aaron Rodgers. You're
happy that's happened, You pissed, You're rooting for him? Is
it buyer Beware, Must see TV? Are they going to succeed?
Are they going to fail? Are you rooting for them
to fail or succeed? You have an opinion? I know
you do. Uh, And we're gonna get real quickly the
steroid deal, you know. Like Eric Hofmore said, there have
been four Major league players suspended under the radar last year.
(53:53):
He said they should lose the remainder of their salary.
On the other hand, they're gonna have the enhanced games
here in Vegas. Speaking of enhanced games, games a lot
more enhanced apparently when Caitlin Clark plays. Because you could
have got into the Chicago Sky game tonight for three bucks.

They were back on the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio.
Minute hours off and running, and we're talking little Aaron Rodgers,
your thoughts, steroids, your thoughts, and you got three bucks.
Could have gone see the Chicago sky play tonight. Caitlin
Clark versus Injuries. Oh wait a minute, there was no
Caitlin Clark. Back to the phones. Maddie in South Carolina
(55:21):
joined just Maddie. Welcome into the Bernie Frattle Show.
Speaker 12 (55:24):
Bernie, how you doing?
Speaker 2 (55:26):
My friend doing well?
Speaker 9 (55:27):
Sir?
Speaker 2 (55:27):
Thanks for checking in tonight.
Speaker 12 (55:31):
I've heard the three questions and I heard another gentleman
compare Kaitlyn Clark, tomug Jordan, No.
Speaker 2 (55:41):
No, I think he meant in terms of yballs. I
certainly not. Yeah, I'm just trying to give you some context.
I had a feeling this might be coming. But I
think the context Maddie with which that was said was
it becomes must see for people who might not even
be interested in basketball, or certainly the WNBA are going
to check and see what this is all out. I
think that's what I mean.
Speaker 12 (56:03):
Truthly, truthfully, no one's interested in the.
Speaker 5 (56:07):
W n b A.
Speaker 12 (56:09):
And that's just the fact.
Speaker 3 (56:11):
I can't argue with him, Maddie, and I can't.
Speaker 2 (56:15):
I want to.
Speaker 12 (56:16):
I want to answer all three of your questions. And
you're talking about Aaron Rodgers and steroids.
Speaker 2 (56:26):
Well, Aaron Rodgers, he signed, He's a polarizing guy. It's
must watch TV. Are you happy? Are you pissed? Is
this buyer beware? Is it going to succeed? Is it
going to fail? Are you rooting for him to fail?
What are you?
Speaker 3 (56:39):
Where are you on Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 12 (56:41):
Well, I don't root for anyone to fail. That's not
my style. Okay, but I have used steroids, okay, and
Lyle Zado was doing the wrong things improperly. If you
take milk thistle.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
Actually take that for my liver.
Speaker 12 (57:08):
It will keep your liver healthy. And if you if
you know how to do steroids, like.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
You're good about wanting to learn, you know what the hell? No,
the context and I appreciate the call. I don't want
you to be a stranger. The context for that subject,
Mattie was, You've got one side of the side coin
where Eric Cosmo or former player is commenting, we're still
getting guys suspended for eighty games after all this time.
(57:40):
Maybe they should lose all the rest of their money
and they'll stop doing it. On the other side, there's
going to be something called the Enhanced Games here in
Vegas and morely weekend next year in the track and field, swimming, weightlifting,
and they can use all the steroids they want.
Speaker 3 (57:53):
So where are we as a society? I guess on.
Speaker 12 (57:55):
That people getting suspended or you know, you owe five
game texts, you know, like their finances aren't my problem.
But I'm here to tell you I coached across to
the athlete. I coached strong men, okay, like like I know,
(58:18):
I honestly know what I'm talking about, and.
Speaker 2 (58:22):
Just I got you mad you know, listen, I got
to get to all the calls. I don't want you
to be a stranger on my show. I want thoughtful calls.
I'm not doubting the beauty of that call is this.
It's probably not the conventional thought, but based on in life,
where you sit is where you stand, and you have
experience with this, you have an alternative viewpoint which is
(58:43):
exactly what we want on them in that hour. And
perhaps in a future show you can call in, we
can delve back into this. I just want to make
sure I give all the callers on a fair time.
But your points are duly noted on the WNBA and
Aaron Rodgers and on steroids. Fair enough, Lett in Olympia.
So I'm curious, Eman, since you listen you live in Olympia. Yeah,
(59:06):
start calling you mister Olympia.
Speaker 10 (59:09):
That's a good idea. I like that, Bernie. You know
I've been it makes sense.
Speaker 3 (59:14):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (59:15):
And I take nole too. It's good for my liver.
Speaker 10 (59:18):
Hey, there you go.
Speaker 17 (59:19):
But I think for Aaron Rodgers, I have the perfect comparison.
He's that crazy uncle that's at the family gathering where
he has these like crazy cakes where it's like what
are you talking about, dude? But people love them, you know,
people think that Aaron Rodgers is a great dude.
Speaker 10 (59:31):
And I think that. I'm not mad at the signing
at all. I mean, I knew it was going to happen.
Speaker 18 (59:35):
I knew what Aaron Rodgers was gonna delay us and
be like, Oh, I'm gonna do these cryptic messages where
I talked about who knows what I'm going to do
next year, I'm going to say I'm gonna be in
the Chicago Stadium, just trying to keep us guessing.
Speaker 10 (59:45):
I knew that was going to happen.
Speaker 17 (59:47):
And in terms of how good the Steelers are going
to do, they're the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 10 (59:51):
They always find a way to be good.
Speaker 17 (59:53):
They have a great defense, they have DK Metcalf, they
have Mike Tomlin. Like there's pieces around Aaron Rodgers. But
the one thing I'm worried about what they Aaron Rodgers
is that offensive line. I mean, Russell Wilson, who can
move a little bit better, struggled with that offensive line.
And Aaron Rodgers is forty one. He's just not the
same he was even three years ago.
Speaker 10 (01:00:10):
On his leg. So I'm a little bit worried about
that in a way.
Speaker 17 (01:00:13):
But the Steelers they just find a way to be good.
And I could see him maybe going out and trading
for someone to beef up that offensive line. And the
WNBA talking about the three dollars tickets for the Chicago
game today, Man, it just shows how terrible Angel Reeves is.
Speaker 10 (01:00:26):
And rees and she was coming out saying, oh, you.
Speaker 17 (01:00:29):
Know, people got to look at me like I'm the
star and all this right, you shoot two for seven,
four points and like twelve ReBs.
Speaker 10 (01:00:35):
It's insane. It's insanity.
Speaker 17 (01:00:37):
You get half your boards on your misshot, It's like
and that's.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
The lear Emmett.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
When the arenas were full and this was truly being
billed as a rivalry, Andrew Reese made sure everybody knew, hey,
they're not just coming out to see her, they're coming
out to see me. Sure for three.
Speaker 10 (01:00:53):
Bucks, that's right, Yeah, exactly three bucks.
Speaker 17 (01:00:56):
And it will be a lot more than that if
you're more of an intriguing player to watch. And you know,
I have no idea what the what the Chicago Sky's
record is. I heard Aaron Torres and Jason Martin say
they're third to last in the standings in.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
The wiz stink. I think they're two and seven or
something like CV. That just goes to show you how
much I mean, you're an avid sports fan.
Speaker 17 (01:01:14):
You don't follow the w NBA, right, I follow Caitlin
Clark a little bit more. But I'm not like, oh,
I have to like cancel all my plans to watch
the Fever game.
Speaker 10 (01:01:21):
Like that's not it at all. So you know, I'm
bored going on the TV channel, scrolling to the Hulu
and I see a w NBA game.
Speaker 18 (01:01:27):
There's nothing else.
Speaker 17 (01:01:28):
I think it's more intriguing, that's all I'm gonna I'll
watch it. I'm not going out of my way for it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
And you know, the skyre two and five so terrible.
Speaker 10 (01:01:38):
But I'm going to go over to the steroids thing here.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
Now.
Speaker 10 (01:01:40):
Obviously, I think we all know that, you know.
Speaker 17 (01:01:42):
Steroids, they've had a lot of negative effects on people,
and you know, you can argue Maddie's point the last
caller that there.
Speaker 10 (01:01:48):
Is some positive effects.
Speaker 17 (01:01:49):
I mean, you take something that he was considering a
steroid for your liver, right, so there is positive effects.
And I think that having this thing in Vegas where
these people who take the steroids can come and compete.
Could be a really cool idea because I've always wondered,
like I wasn't alive in the nineties when a lot
of these players in the MLB were juiced up. So
I think it'd be really cool to see, like, especially
if they have like powerlifting in there, like how much
(01:02:11):
truly does the steroids help? And I heard a couple
other people on the network say that the steroids, you know,
you still have to train, which is true, but if
you do train, it's gonna enhance it.
Speaker 10 (01:02:19):
So I'm really interested to see what happens with that.
Speaker 17 (01:02:22):
So there's gonna be a tuning eye there. And I'm
not really mad at it because either way people are
going to do it. If it's illegal legal, if there's
games four, if there's not, people are still gonna take it.
So why not have a game that's.
Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
Been born out thanks to Emmit by what's happening in
Major League Baseball?
Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
Onto the radar. There have been.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
Four players to spended eighty games in the last year.
The only you've heard of is York and Profar still happening. Well, Mike,
the leper Con Joints just welcome back in Mike how are.
Speaker 10 (01:02:46):
You good morning?
Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
How about you good? So what are your thoughts on
these subjects tonight?
Speaker 8 (01:02:53):
I have many thoughts as usual.
Speaker 13 (01:02:55):
I'm going to Las Vegas and that's that's angel, so
I might see you, that's the one.
Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
Anyway.
Speaker 8 (01:03:00):
Aaron Rodgers, he's going to Dublin in September. Did you
know that?
Speaker 7 (01:03:05):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
Well, apparently the Steelers have a game there, So there
you go.
Speaker 13 (01:03:09):
The Steelers and the Vikings are playing in September. And
the Vikings were the ones who formed Dublin.
Speaker 8 (01:03:14):
Back in nine eighty eighty eight, the only city.
Speaker 13 (01:03:17):
Where the population is always doubling every year. Right anyway,
So Rodgers is very polarizing, Like you said, but.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
Are you glad this happened? What are they gonna Wintburgh?
Speaker 13 (01:03:29):
But he said he it's a d at this point
in his career, and he hasn't played well for four years.
He should live by but by.
Speaker 8 (01:03:38):
Doing the for example, he's all top right now and
no action. All right.
Speaker 7 (01:03:44):
So that's enough about Aaron Rodgers. Caroyds.
Speaker 13 (01:03:46):
I remember Mark McGuire and Barry Bonds, and one of
my heroes was Lam Sandstrong. It's an unfair advantage. You
put stuff in your body.
Speaker 8 (01:03:54):
You wake up the next day and you have no
pardners compared to.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Him, we feel we agree, And so what Eric Cosmer
former Padre first Baseman said, if you get suspended, you
should have the rest of your contract voided. Basically, do
you agree with that?
Speaker 13 (01:04:10):
I agree the punishment and lancear Strong paid a very
heavy punishment after getting away for it with seven two
of the frances anyway, and he's a great human being. Now,
I think the punishment should be as big as possible
to make it be less inviting to pretend to be
an athlete when you're really faking it. So yes, I
(01:04:31):
would say that the bigger the cost of better as
a disincentive.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
All right, real quickly, Wnba, Yes you could have gotten
the game for three bucks.
Speaker 13 (01:04:43):
Your thoughts, Yes, but you wouldn't pay three bucks for
your beer or your hot dog inside, So it did get.
Speaker 8 (01:04:48):
You anyway from the concession stand. But it's necessary.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
But you get the point. When Caitlin Clark was playing,
they're charging four and thirty four bucks a ticket to
play an exhibition game in Iowa versus Brazil. This is
a regular He's in game against the supposed burd versus
Magic rivalry. Which is never going to materialize. Forget it.
Speaker 13 (01:05:06):
Okay, if he can get three bucks out of your pockets,
they have you in there, and your your a spectator,
and it's a necessary part of the NBA. I don't
believe it should be a separate entity. I believe the
NBA should be endorsing it and healthy they are, to.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
The tune of about forty million a year.
Speaker 8 (01:05:25):
Yes, and that's proper order.
Speaker 13 (01:05:27):
Proper order, because there's going to be a brilliant ladies
basketball team for the Olympics in two years all new,
all right.
Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
And we had that before the WNBA. Actually we had
that before the WNBA. Go ahead, Mike, you got the
last word. All right?
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
All good?
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Thank you, Rick and Louisiana Joint.
Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
Just hey, Rick, what's up? Buddy?
Speaker 2 (01:05:47):
Well?
Speaker 16 (01:05:47):
Hey, how you doing.
Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
Bernie good Man?
Speaker 16 (01:05:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (01:05:50):
Thanks Taking McCall I am as as far as Aaron Rodgers,
I hope Aaron Rodgers does well for the sake of
Mike Comlin.
Speaker 16 (01:05:58):
My question is if he stinks up the place, will
he get bitched?
Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
Well, you got Mastin, Rudolph, Will Howard and and you know,
I think Cliff's stout. I mean it's not it's doubtful.
It's it's it's actually doubtful. I don't I think they're
gonna ride.
Speaker 10 (01:06:16):
I think they're gonna ride with them too.
Speaker 7 (01:06:19):
You know he did.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Listen. I've been ninety percent of the time bashing Aaron
Rodgers the last four years, but he did throw a
twenty touchdown passes and against eleven interceptions last year. I
think he's got one more in them, I think in
that culture. Yeah, it's just an opinion, but I'm glad
this happened. I know I'm in a minority. Rick. I
think they're gonna pull this off. What does that mean?
I think to go ten and seven? You know, I'm
(01:06:41):
not predicting to go to the Super Bowl. Your thoughts
on this whole steroid issue which never comes up anymore?
But should these plays their entire salary? And what do
you think about these enhanced games?
Speaker 15 (01:06:53):
I would say with the enhanced games, no, I mean
as far as the steroids, And I think back on
people you know that got their metals stripped because of
still Royd's you know, and you asked them and they
would say, no, they shouldn't do it because I got
penalized when I was doing it. And as far.
Speaker 16 (01:07:13):
As in the in baseball, I think that it probably
may be more prevalent than igree. I agree, then then
you know, and and if it's only I mean, out
of all the players and you're only getting four five, uh,
I mean, I don't know why they singled out, but
I think it could be possible, just possible that it's
(01:07:34):
more prevalent. And as far as Kaitlyn Clark, uh, Caitlyn
Clark comparing her to Tiger Woods, Let's let's let her
wi something first, because that's fair.
Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
This is one publication I think, and again to call
you that's a fair point. Rick. The couple of the
publication was implying that when people she ain't playing, people
aren't watching. And at Tiger woodsdon't play on Sunday, wind
Loser draw, people were watching that, you know, they just
weren't watching. That's why that publication said that.
Speaker 15 (01:08:02):
Okay, but you are right, you are right.
Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
You know, you know, finishing second in this country is
not something that people remember anything else.
Speaker 19 (01:08:11):
Rick, Yeah, I will gonna go back a little bit
on Aaron Rodgers. You know, lang Mike Common was splitting
it up between Wilson and Fields, and I'm saying, is
he going to do that this year.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
No, No, they're not.
Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
You're I think you're giving Aaron Rodgers the keys to
the car. And and he's a Hall of Famer, he's
four MVPs. Look, I'm going to talk about this at
Linked at one o'clock. Okay, Okay, there's really a couple
of questions here, is this going to be a fit?
And how much gas does he really have in the tank.
Let's say it's a good fit, it's a good move.
(01:08:46):
We don't know how much gas. The guys turns forty
two in Setember the National Football League with a brand
new team in a brand new system, and I already
see one thing coming. I'll tease this for one o'clock.
I like DK Metcalf. He's a world class athlete. He's
not a precise he's not a real precise rot runner.
And Aaron Rodgers eats that. He's a big time playmaker,
(01:09:07):
but he's not a real precise rot runner. So look,
there's always potential here for trevel in paradise.
Speaker 16 (01:09:14):
Yeah, and I guess the other thing too. With Aaron Rodgers,
I didn't really like the way he was and maybe
on the outside it looked like he was holding Pittsburgh hostage.
But you know it may not have been since they
probably had an agreement.
Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
That we think somewhere. I think so and they and
they don't know what's that explanation, but past his prologue
and Rogers is a victim of his prior.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
Shenannig.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
And thanks so much, Rick, I always appreciate you calling in.
Let's get one more in here, Wyatt in Washington Joint.
Just welcome to the Bernie Frauder showy man.
Speaker 10 (01:09:44):
Thanks taking the call.
Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
You bet.
Speaker 20 (01:09:48):
When it comes to the w NBA, I think everyone
so far tonight it's been pretty pretty on point, like
they're watching. If they are watching, they're watching for Kaylin Clark,
the drama for performing the quote unquote rivalries that are
taking place, but.
Speaker 10 (01:10:03):
There isn't really a rivalry.
Speaker 20 (01:10:04):
Like Angel Reese has played fifty percent more games than
it's still averaging nine points less per game than Kaitlin
Clark and Kayln Clark hasn't played in like two weeks now,
so it's a non issue. Three bucks is three bucks.
I guess if you're super bored, go watch it. But
that's not too big.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
But here's the thing, HATCHI played it would have been
one hundred bucks, and so there's a context to this conversation.
Speaker 10 (01:10:28):
Yeah, one hundred percent.
Speaker 20 (01:10:29):
And I think that's the key though, Like, no one
is going to the games unless they're going to the
games to watch Kayln.
Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
Clark, Like, hey, what they're going to be watching Steelers games?
Regardless of what your thoughts are, it's must watch TV.
Are you glad the Steelers did this? What are your thoughts?
Speaker 20 (01:10:45):
I'm kind of indifferent, Like I'm a Seahawks fan til
I die, but I have a lot of respect for
the Steelers. I think the bigger issue is Tomlin. I
think he got exactly what he wanted. He got a
quarterback that'll make him go nine and eight so his
records stay alive. I think the best thing Rogers can
do for the team right now is just bring leadership
(01:11:05):
and experience to the team. And then the last caller
said it really well two or two callers ago that
he's just not physically the quarterback that he I think
needs to be for that team to be successful at
this point.
Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Likely likely, but we're going to see if he's got
one left in him, and maybe he.
Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Has the last left.
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
And then quickly on steroids.
Speaker 10 (01:11:27):
I'm a doctor.
Speaker 20 (01:11:28):
I think if they're going to take them, they should
take them. But if they're playing in a league where
they're banned.
Speaker 10 (01:11:33):
Ban them out right.
Speaker 20 (01:11:34):
And yeah, the player who said that the contract should
be avoided one hundred percent correct. But I do like
the idea of the enhanced games. If people are gonna
take them, put them in their own league and see
what they can come up with and what they can.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
Produce good stuff. Why don't be a stranger. Appreciate your
thoughts Tonight, Brock or Bryce Brock and Greg in that order.
You're going to be up next. We're going to get
to all of you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:56):
And as the.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Min at hour continues eight seven, seven nine, nine, six
three six nine, I'm Bernie Frowner. We are coming to
live from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
Keep it lock.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
You're listening to the Bernie Frownle Show. Fox Sports Radio.
All Right, the midnight hout rolls out to Bernie Frawdles Show.
Let's go back out to the phone lines. Bryce in Texas, manytime,
cal We appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:18):
Welcome back into the Bernie frown Show.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
Bryce Man, I'm.
Speaker 11 (01:12:22):
So glad that you're back. I figured that's talking about
the w NBA. Two each their scared your way, which
is why you missed last week. But I'm glad you're back.
Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
Thanks bub What do you got for us tonight?
Speaker 7 (01:12:32):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (01:12:33):
I think two weeks ago I was talking to you
about how the WNBA needs the rivalry to keep them alive,
and Ryanqulbets and Caitlin Clark got hurt. And now there's nothing,
no spattering or anything. It's going to show that that's
exactly what they need. I know people don't like how
it went down between her and Angel Reef, but that
(01:12:55):
was the only thing keeping the legal lives and now
there's nothing to fight or argue over. It's showing how
much or how little people care about the w NBA
outside of that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
Yeah, tonight was an inflection point. Now they're going to
continue playing and the product on the floor is not
that bad. It just doesn't thrill me. It's a good point. Bryce,
and they got Aaron Rodgers or steroids.
Speaker 11 (01:13:21):
As far as Aaron Rogers, I know. One caller said,
I hope nobody. I never wish that anybody.
Speaker 7 (01:13:26):
Does it do well.
Speaker 11 (01:13:27):
I'm not that closing. I'm a brown stand. I hope
he like slips on a banana pill or something every down.
Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
But well, I'll tell you one thing. I'd love to
see the Browns win it. I mean, a great city
in Cleveland, in a great area.
Speaker 11 (01:13:39):
But go ahead, I was gonna say. I do agree
with you, though, I think that with him there's still
going to be that nine or ten win team. They
haven't really done him much favors though. They kind of
got rid of some of their receiving cores, so he's
stuck in DK in that cast. But I think they
still get ninerkin wins. And as far as the steroids,
(01:14:01):
I don't think it's as prevalent in baseball as people
make it up to me. Yeah, we've had some big
names to hit with it, but I think overall baseball
does a pretty good job keeping the game clean. It
was a steroid it in Vegas. I cannot wait to
see that. I will a heartbeat to see.
Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
That Memorial Day. All right, pl thanks a lot, Bryce.
I want to get through these calls Brock and Alberta.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
Welcome in.
Speaker 21 (01:14:26):
Hey, Bernie, how's it going that a long time?
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
No brock line, good deal?
Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
What do you got for us tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 21 (01:14:32):
Well, let's start with w NBA and Kaitlin Clark. First
of all, the Kalen Clark is not in the w NBA.
You know that league is is nothing. You know, garage
doors closed, lights are off, and there's no party there now.
So I think you know that's completely on her. She's
made the spotlight. So that's my opinion on that. And
then to Aaron Rodgers, uh, you know, the Steelers finding him,
(01:14:52):
I think you know, I don't think he's the guy's watched.
I mean, I think we talked about.
Speaker 10 (01:14:57):
This before on our earlier show, about.
Speaker 21 (01:14:59):
Maybe a couple of weeks ago, a month ago. I'm
not sure, but you know, his legacy secure, and I
think you said that before too. You know, he's won
a Super Bowl, he's got four m vps, even though
it was like a billion years ago that he won,
he still got it. But now I just I just
don't think he's relevant. And honestly, I just I just
don't think he's gonna do anything for the Feelers. And
I guess I'll to see what the wait till till
(01:15:19):
uh September and field it plays out.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
So all right, anything else for us today, Bud.
Speaker 21 (01:15:27):
No, I think that's it all.
Speaker 3 (01:15:28):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Brock, you take care of Greg and Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:15:30):
Welcome back in and are you what's going on?
Speaker 7 (01:15:33):
Urtin?
Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
Go ahead?
Speaker 7 (01:15:36):
Okay here, I am Aaron Rodgers. I think again, it's
kind of like this thing's been played out before. Everybody's
looking at the game and just waiting for his ankles
to go out or anything like that. I do think
he brings something to Pittsburgh that they don't have, but
they don't have anything around him. They've got good receivers,
(01:16:00):
they don't have warning game, so it's just gonna be
crossing your fingers to make sure he doesn't get knocked
out for the next game. So I'm kind of worried
about that, but we'll just see how that goes. As
far as the steroids, steroids to me has been a
thing about cinema sea anyway. It's not about the power.
(01:16:23):
It's about the guys playing day to day and but
I get all that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
But what we're talking about here, big fella, is you
heard Eric Cosmer. Should they lose the rest of their
salary if they're caught again?
Speaker 7 (01:16:34):
Well, okay, as far as that goes under the way
the contracts are written and everything, Yeah, if you know
the rules and you'll play by them, you're gonna get caught.
And that's just the way it is. But as far
as as far as the steroid league that's going on
or whatever they're gonna do, that's interesting, we'll see. And
(01:17:00):
as far as w n B A w n B A,
before Caitlin and Angel and all them came around, it
was spodder for me doing crossword puzzles.
Speaker 8 (01:17:12):
I put it on the TV and then.
Speaker 7 (01:17:13):
Just do crossword puzzles. It just didn't interest me. Once
they had a little bit of rivalry, just fart, it
interested me. But the way with.
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
That rapiere for gaysy there, big fellow, I mean, and
I don't mean to catch a short crag. I want
to get to our last caller. Hold that thought maybe
for next week. But what I'm trying to figure out
now is, you know, is this a real inflection point?
And maybe that's where you were going. Jane and Kentucky,
welcome in. Now you got the last word.
Speaker 22 (01:17:41):
Hey, Arnie, I kind of see Aaron Rodgers like Kevin Durant.
Every off season it seems like everybody's talking about somebody
trading for them or bringing them in as a free agent,
and so it's gonna work.
Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
You think it's gonna work in Pittsburgh or no, I.
Speaker 22 (01:18:00):
Think that it a cell ticket and you know it'll
give you guys plenty of content, but in the end,
they're not gonna win a championship.
Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
Well, no, that's yet. I don't think it argue with that.
I think anything on the w n b A.
Speaker 22 (01:18:14):
I think that Caitlin has not reached Tigers status yet.
You have to win a little bit for that. But
I think for popularity to go up, there does need
to be that rival. Maybe that could be Paide or
do Do in a couple of years, but it's not Angel.
Speaker 3 (01:18:30):
That's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
I think she's just not in anywhere good rebound. Yeah.
Speaker 22 (01:18:35):
On the steroids thing, we know that the players Union
runs that league, so they're probably never going to agree
to that. But I'm against steroids and combat sports, you know,
because you could do real damage to someone.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
But as far as the.
Speaker 22 (01:18:51):
Enhanced games, I'm all for it. Let's let's see how
high a human actually can jump.
Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
That's funny, good stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
Jay. And by the way, Greg getting text, I apologize.
I don't need to cut you short there. What I'm
trying to do is make sure we get all the
callers in. You certainly call back next week. And the
key is a lot of times people do have good comments,
but given the limited nature we I want to try
to really focus in on the sort of almost yes
or no aspect is a WNBA did they really out
(01:19:22):
themselves tonight with three dollars tickets because Caitlin Clarke didn't play.
It was against Angel Reese, she didn't play. Aaron Rodgers
all over the board like we thought it would be,
and steroids all over the board. Great stuff. Is always
really appreciate the midnight callers. If I cut you off,
don't take it personal. I'm just trying to get everybody
in coming out. I'm gonna talk about Aaron Rodgers and
Gill you what I really think. We're gonna break it down.
(01:19:42):
Keep it locked to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
Yeah that's right, you heard the man Bernie Fraddle Show
keeps rolling right along.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
My name is Bernie Frattleer.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
We are comedy line from the Fox Sports Radio studios
here in Las Vegas. Take after three Pacific, six am
Eastern special. Thanks again to all the callers of the
Midnight Hour and one of the topics tonight. Well, the
WNBA has certainly got a lot of the topics since
you had three dollars tickets. One city that will have
(01:20:15):
no trouble selling tickets nor do they ever as Pittsburgh.
And finally, and probably was the worst kept secret, frankly
in retrospect, it was always to me going to be
a fade to complete that Rogers would sign with the Steelers.
Just didn't know when I said two weeks ago on
my show that June tenth, that's Tuesday, is really the
(01:20:36):
key date to watch because that's mandatory mini camp and
if Rogers is not there for that, I mean, this
guy is even a bigger load in the shorts. And
I thought, because if you have designs on somewhat diminishing
or erasing your finalty years and the jets, which is
you know, tantam out to a drunk crossing a nicy street,
it just didn't work out. It was a disaster from
the jump, starting with an extremely unfortunate injury and it
(01:21:00):
just seemed to go from there. So now's got a
fresh start, but not everybody's.
Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
Down with this.
Speaker 2 (01:21:05):
Skip Bayless wasted no time in ripping the Steelers, calling
Rogers a forty one year old, washed up diva, slams
the deal. Meanwhile, does anybody wonder why the Minnesota Vikings
and Kevin O'Connell basically rejected Aaron Rodgers. Remember this is
the team that Rogers really wanted to go to, Okay,
(01:21:29):
and he made that I think no one very much
behind the scenes back in March when he was released
by the Jets.
Speaker 3 (01:21:35):
And the truth of.
Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
The matter is, if you're talking about a one year deal,
just a one year deal, that actually would have been,
you know, the best landing spot for Aaron Rodgers given
where they are. And there in lines the reason Kevin O'Connell,
a very thoughtful guy who is Sean mcvay's offensive coordinator
when the Rams won their Super Bowl and has done
(01:21:57):
a phenomenal job I believe in Minnesota, took the time
as a friend to sit down with Aaron Rodgers. He
just didn't make it to the front page, that's all.
And he revealed the reason he turned down the chance
to sign Aaron Rodgers. He simply said, look, he's focused
on what's doing best for the future in Caps, the
future of the franchise, not a one year deal, the
(01:22:18):
long term future, big picture, long term future. He's going
to ride with JJ McCarthy twenty two years old. He's
going to be the starter. Okay. He explained this to Rodgers.
Kevin O'Connell did. He does consider Rogers a good friend.
They've known each other for twenty years, and he made
the time to connect with him and they had a
(01:22:39):
lot of dialogue about it, and he said, we can't
do just what's best for the present of the Minnesota
Vikings organization, but the future as well, and so he
was honest about that. He believes he's got a real
obligation JJ McCarthy, or check that. Kevin O'Connor does. To
JJ McCarthy him the best possible situation to begin and
(01:23:02):
thrive and get his NFL journey going. And they went
to Minnesota went fourteen and three with Sam Darnol last year,
and McCarthy will be promoted. He'll fill that void. McConnell
already said he's having a great spring. They've got a
he had a great offseason. He's healthy, throwing the ball great.
Here you go. They're going to run it back with
JJ McCarthy I think that's a coging explanation, which I
(01:23:25):
think is one of the reasons why a lot of
the people, including Ryan Clark and uh, you know, Ryan
Clark is a longtime Steeler, respected Steeler, and he just
has a penchant now for giving his opinion when no
one asks for it. And he said this is a
disaster signing for the Steelers now. To be fair, Rodgers
did or check that. Ryan Clark did admit he'll make
(01:23:50):
the Rogers, will make the Steelers better, But you know,
it's it's a one year deal. And by the way,
for anybody that thinks Rogers are going to be there
more than one year, I'm not buying it. I'm not
buying it. Which is one of the things that pisses
Ryan Clark off that if the Steelers play just well
enough this year to put themselves in a position where
(01:24:11):
they can't draft quote a franchise player, a franchise quarterback,
that's going to hurt them. I never get too excited
about draft choices. They're always theoretical. It's basically capital you
haven't proven anything yet, you don't know the failure rate
of first round of quarterbacks is high. So let's pump
the brakes on that. Let's see what the Steelers do
this year. Rogers give the Steelers the best chance to
(01:24:34):
win this year, So let's steal with the facts. They
are objective truths, and there are personal feelings the situation
around Aaron Rodgers, and largely.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
Most of this is his own doing.
Speaker 2 (01:24:46):
Typically it revolves around emotional opinions, basically based on subjectivity
because they don't.
Speaker 3 (01:24:52):
Like the guy, and I get that.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
I get that. But the Steelers are a business, okay,
and they're in the business of winning football games. They
wont ten last year. But the guy can't read a
defense and can't find wide open receivers, and he's late
and he's not accurate. He's a world class human being
and a fast runner. They couldn't wait to get rid
of him, and they did Russell Wilson. He ends up
with the New York Giants that cand have won ten games.
(01:25:18):
I think Steelers have upgraded at wide receiver, at running
back and now quarterback. How many win games are gonna win?
I don't know is Rogers is going to be healthy,
which is one of the questions. All Right, he's going
to turn forty two in December, there's no question he's
going to start. Okay. He threw for about four thousand
yards last year, just under twenty nine touchdowns, eleven interceptions,
(01:25:40):
and he just never really recovered from the stigma of
the physicality that from the achilles in Week one and
twenty twenty three. And look, what are you getting. Are
you getting the guy who was a four time league
MVP who's motivated or are you getting a guy who
maybe means well but we don't know how much he
has left the inn. There's no way you can know
(01:26:01):
that until the NFL season starts. So is this a
good move for Pittsburgh? They didn't really have a lot
of other obvious solutions at quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:26:13):
Does Rogers fit that offense?
Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
Does he stabilize the Steelers and their ability to score
points and win games? So how much of an impact
is this decision're gonna have on the Steelers short term
and long term? It's being highly critical, Okay, people have
been highly critical of it. I I you know, we're
gonna look up twelve months from now and it's fifty
(01:26:37):
to fifty whether the Steelers had a lost season that
ended in disappointment. But you can't if you set aside
your personal feelings for Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (01:26:48):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:26:49):
The only season that matters right now in Pittsburgh, for
any NFL franchise for that matter, is this season. The
future is now, So this was not an irrational choice
for the Steelers. The outcome is not the point. You can't.
You can't. You can plan everything about the outcome. That's
a beauty of sports, right, the greatest reality show, and
(01:27:12):
you can script everything, but the outcome. Rogers, I believe
has some upside. How much is left we don't know.
He showed flashes and then there were games where he didn't.
I think the culture is going to be good, all right.
It's been you know, four years since Rogers had a
(01:27:35):
QBR of above seventy five. He led the league in
that category, and he won the MVP in twenty twenty one.
For context, the last time Russell Wilson hit that mark
was fourteen years ago in his rookie season. Did you
really want Kirk Cousins? With all due respect to Kirk Cousins,
he does everything but win. Atlanta couldn't wait to get
(01:27:58):
rid of him. Washington, Minnesota. When the heat, you know,
when the heat gets hot, it's hard to breathe. And
you need someone to make a key play to win
a big game, it won't be Kirk Cousins. If you
want a guy who's a serviceable passer, who's put up
a ton of numbers in the meaningless what I call
Yogi Bear stats in the in the UH, in the
National Football League. And if you don't know what that means,
(01:28:19):
there was a time Yogi Bear actually once went four
for four against the Boston Red Sox. The next day
in the in the in the box score of the
New York Times, it showed.
Speaker 3 (01:28:29):
That he went three for four. Yogi was living.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
He called the sports thatt or of the New York
Times said, what are you doing? Man?
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
I went four for four yesterday?
Speaker 2 (01:28:37):
Uh? And and the editors relaxed. Yogi was a type
of graphical error. He said, what do you mean that? Last?
It was a clean single up? The middle bottom line
is sometimes stats aren't they don't contribute to win, They're
they're empty stats.
Speaker 6 (01:28:52):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:28:53):
You know, Russell Westbrook, Mark, you know, insert your own
Russell Westbrook comment there. He's put up tons of staff,
never won a damn thing. All right, here's the reality, though,
as poorly as Aaron Rodgers played last season. If you're
asking me who's got a better chance of Rogers being
a top ten quarterback this season, Rogers or Russell Wilson,
(01:29:16):
I'm picking Rogers. Rogers or Kirk Cousin. I'm picking Rogers.
Rogers or Mason Rudolph. I'm picking Rogers, all right. I
know he's coming off a bad twenty twenty four season,
but the optimism for the Steelers is he really wasn't
(01:29:38):
fully healed by the torn achilles that knocked him out
not only for the entire twenty twenty three season. But
let's you know, he looked a little bit more mobile
in twenty twenty four. But you know they keep all
these advanced metrics in the National Football League, and of
his thirty fastest top speed plays this season, those came
(01:30:00):
after a week thirteen. That's according to NFL Next Gen stats,
all right, So that shows as he got stronger and stronger,
he perhaps became more effective. But you also have to
juxtapose that that his career art has been poor since
(01:30:22):
his last year in Green Bay, which you also did
not have a good season. All right. The other thing
is how much, say, is Rogers going to have in
the offense as he had with the Jets now. For instance,
when he was back in Green Bay under Mattlefleur, he
used a lot of play action and motion and much
(01:30:44):
more than the Jets did. It didn't work well with
the Jets. Now Pittsburgh has an offensive coordinator by the
name of Arthur Smith. He runs play action pass maybe
a quarter of the time, which actually is a lot
that's tenth most, but not a lot of motion plays
twenty eight the Jets offense basically it was predicated on
receivers going north and south. The Jets, you know, they
(01:31:09):
ran a lot of short fades, hitches, go routes. That's
not what the Steelers typically do. But where the Steelers,
I think have found a guy that might solve the
problem for at least one year.
Speaker 3 (01:31:22):
He's Pittsburgh does.
Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
Have the culture, They do have a roster, They do
have an infrastructure and leadership that can perhaps if whatever
Rogers upside is left, they can bring it out of him.
Why Pittsburgh does have a potentially great defense they ranked
tenth in EPA for play last season, But there actually
can be better than that. You give me a healthy TJ. Watt,
(01:31:44):
Alex high Smith Cam Hayward, Nick Krbig. The Steelers have
a tremendous pass rush and the good secondary with Joey
Porter Jr. They picked up Darius Slay Micka Fitzpatrick, So
that's a defense. They can play complimentary football. That's a fact.
You get the ball back for Aaron Rodgers. Let Aaron
(01:32:05):
Rodgers go to work in his career on third down
in the fourth quarter in the red zone, Rogers have
been pretty good. That's how you agree a quarterback. Also,
the Steelers actually ranked thirteenth and pass block win rate
last season, and you'll take that because that's better than
what the Jets were. You have a good wide receiver
(01:32:29):
in DK Metcalf. I think did George Pickens trade to
Dallas might be additioned by subtraction. We don't know, but
Rogers certainly could use a second wide receiver behind DK Metcalf.
And I don't really know what that depth chart looks
like at this point. You know, Mike Tomlin gets bashed
(01:32:49):
a lot. I get it. He's you know, hasn't gone
to the playoffs in eight years. Fair, but you know
the Pittsburgh Steelers are a.
Speaker 3 (01:32:58):
Check that he has won a playoff.
Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
You're sorry, but look, they've had three coaches in nineteen
sixty nine, Chuck Nole, Bill Kauer, and now.
Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
Mike Comlin. So if you let him go, who you
bring it in?
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
And that's not a question I care to get into tonight.
So Rogers is gonna get his thirteen point six million,
He's got a chance to maybe earn nineteen million. What
does that mean. Well, it's gonna be predicated on actually
team goals and playing time. So if Rodgers gets hurt
or he can't in, you know, earn those bonuses, if
he's not on the field, it's gonna be more predicated
(01:33:35):
on them winning games. But again, as you heard me
say earlier, Steelers won ten games last year with you
know this, the Afield's Russell Wilson tandem, and they won
you know, nine games a year before with Kenny Pickett.
So look, am I predicting a deep playoff run for
the Steelers?
Speaker 3 (01:33:55):
No, no, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:33:58):
But but this might make uncomfortable sense in Pittsburgh, but
it makes sense. Do I think taken win ten games? Absolutely,
yes I do. So that's going to be predicated on this,
whether or not the offense the Steelers run, does it
fit Aaron Rodgers talents. Okay, will will he run what
(01:34:24):
Arthur Smith wants him to run? Will he do it
gladly and unwillingly or willingly? Or when he was with
the Jets, Rogers did a lot of things unwillingly. And look,
you have a couple of issues that I'm going to
(01:34:44):
point out right now that are possible.
Speaker 3 (01:34:46):
Arthur Smith has presented.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
He's the coordinator offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's
been in oc in Tennessee, Atlanta, and now Pittsburgh. He
realized heavily on play action passes from under center. But
Rogers doesn't necessarily like to turn his back to the defenses.
He drops back to pass. Is that a sign also
that his mobility is diminishing and he admits it? Or
(01:35:11):
is that just how he wants to play? Dk Metcalf
he is a premier receiver, He's a premier playmaker. He's
not a type of guy who runs great, precise, crisp routes.
No one is going to confuse DK Metcalf with being
one of the great route runners in the NFL. Rogers,
(01:35:32):
that's an eneughma to Aaron Rodgers. He wants damn near
perfection from his receivers. And when you run a route,
you better be on time. You better you have your
you know, beyond your p's and q's. So you tell
me if they're gonna be able to go seventeen games,
(01:35:52):
but there's not at least one dust up between Rogers
and DK Metcalf, and how you know they're gonna be
to be able to you know, glue that back together
if that happens. So look, no one is saying this
is a perfect fit. You've got the opportunity for personalities
to class. You got the opportunity for Aaron Rodgers and
(01:36:13):
the idiosyncratic Rogers to you know, but I'm sorry, he's
an upgrade over Russell Wilson or specifically justin Fields. I
think you're gonna have a higher ceiling. I think you're
gonna have more peak offensive outbursts. The question is will
(01:36:35):
it be sustainable over the year and if they will
make the playoffs, will it translate to the playoffs? And
that's exactly why this is going to be must see TV.
You cannot tell me you're not watching again. There are
people who like Aaron Rodgers. There are people who hate
(01:36:55):
Aaron Rodgers. We on one car set. I don't root
for people to fail. On the car set, I wish
I was that classy. I will root for him to fail.
The opposite of love is not hate, its indifference. And
rogers signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers has been largely panned.
Speaker 3 (01:37:11):
But what I'm trying to do is remove, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
Subjectivity and emotion and replace him with objectivity.
Speaker 3 (01:37:16):
This was born in necessity.
Speaker 2 (01:37:18):
Rogers did not want to go out like he went
out last year. He's got to capture that one last
graft glory and whatever the roster the Steelers put around him,
that's what he's going to have to play with. He's
gonna have to play the hand he's dealt. And by
the way, this is out of necessity for the Steelers too.
I just don't think you were going to go to
the playoffs with Mason Rudolph. All right, again, this isn't
(01:37:42):
the first time an aging quarterback has wanted one last
bite at the apple. Remember after Brett fav left the Jets,
he went to the Vikings, Warren Moon went to Seattle,
Carson Palmer went to Arizona, and then the Raiders drew
Bledsoe Dallas even Russell Wilson's going to New York Giants.
(01:38:04):
Not all those outcomes were bad, but the common thread
of all those, the common denominator of all those, is
that each one of those franchises needed something in the
present to get them through to maybe the next stage.
Because none of those teams were in a full bowl
and rebuild, and Pittsburgh certainly mounted a rebuild. They're missing
(01:38:25):
a quarterback, Okay, so the question will be is he
tarnishing his resume, is he indulging his ego? Or is
he gonna help them win games? Speaking of another major
deal this week, Tom Thibodeaux was fired, and I thought
that Mark Bedino brought up some good points. He was
against it. So let's look at this subjectively. The Knicks
(01:38:48):
might just get themselves a reminder the grass isn't always greener.
I'll bring receipts. I'm Bernie Frattle will come to your

Speaker 2 (01:39:13):
Right back on the Burning Fattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
In addition all the big stories this week, one of
the bigger ones was a firing in New York and well,
the move was I think a massive surprise. I don't
know anybody that predicted this, considering the fact that the Knicks,
(01:39:34):
You're coming off of fifty one win regular season, which
happens to be the team's highest win total in over
a decade, a deep playoff run, and a statement was issued.
I guess it was what June, twid June, or whatever
the day was.
Speaker 3 (01:39:53):
I'll read it.
Speaker 2 (01:39:54):
Okay, this is what the Knicks said quote. Our organization
is singularly focused on winning a champion for our fans.
This pursuit led us to the difficult decision to inform
Tom Thibodeau that we've decided to move in another direction,
said Nick's president Leon Rose. We can't thank Tom enough
for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day.
Bah bah okay, glass professionalism, bop, buppup up boot ball. Okay.
(01:40:17):
He'll always be a part of the ex family. We
truly wish him nothing but the best. Okay, thank you,
Thank you. That was right out of journalism one on
one how to write a press release. I have no
idea how much of that they meant. I do know this,
he just signed it. Thibodeau just signed an extension in
New York as recently as last year. The team still
owes him thirty million dollars. So what the hell happened here?
(01:40:43):
And before we dive into that, I think this has
to be given some context. You see, because Tom Thibodeau
joined the team one twenty twenty, and the eight years
before Thibodeau is there, the Knicks had Mike Woodson, Derek Fisher,
Kurt Rambits, Jeff Horncheck, David Fizdale. Remember the phizz You're
(01:41:06):
not got a rugby man? Remember the press conference? Yeah,
and Mike Miller combined eight years, two hundred and thirty
eight regular season wins. But in five years Tom Thibodeau
had two hundred and twenty six regular season wins. But
it's a revolving door coach coaches in New York. And
(01:41:27):
now Tom Thibodeau is out again. Remember they relieved Thibodeau
of his duties just a couple of days after the
team reached the Eastern conference finals for the first time
in twenty five years, and I get it, they failed
to advance to the finals. One theory is once they
got to the conference finals, expectations rose because the goal
(01:41:47):
is winning a championship, and of course now the obligatory.
He needed a new voice and this was the first
step in the process of reaching those heights. Okay, the
issue has made at the highest levels. Obviously team president
Leon Rose, and he had the full backing of the owner,
James Dolan. But there's other things here. Okay, again, is
(01:42:12):
the grass greener? Who were they? We don't know who
the Knicks are going to hire. I'm gonna guess it's
Jason Kidd if Dallas lets him out to talk. But
when you fire a coach that hasn't done something that
the team hasn't done in a quarter of a century,
and the Knicks are actually relevant again, and you have
(01:42:35):
to give Tom Thibodeau for at least creating the culture
that built this fireball that made the next relevant.
Speaker 3 (01:42:48):
Now it remains to be seen if the Knicks learned.
Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
The hard way. The grass isn't always greener again. Dibbodeou
led the Knicks to back to back fifty win seasons
that hadn't happened in thirty years. The Knicks were led
under Tom Thibodeau to the conference semi finals three years
in a row that hadn't.
Speaker 3 (01:43:10):
Happened in twenty five years.
Speaker 2 (01:43:11):
The Knicks actually, believe it or not, had the fifth
best offense in the NBA in the eighths best next
net rating. The team was basically glued together one day
before training camp and they became one of the final
four teams standing. And the guy who was the protagonist,
the guy who was the architect, I think of what
the you know, he's not the GM, but he's the
(01:43:34):
guy who took the ingredients and the recipe and built
the Knicks into what they were is gone now. By
the way, right after the next loss, they asked Jalen Brunson,
who's clearly the star of the team. He was very
he did not equivocate in any way. After the next
season ended, he said Thibodeau is the right man for
(01:43:56):
this job going forward. I mean, you saw the press
conference as the reporter asked him and really pissed Brunt
them off, because that a real question right now? Did
you just ask me if I believe he's the right guy. Yes.
Now days have gone by and people are speculating.
Speaker 3 (01:44:13):
And ruminating, well, what was.
Speaker 2 (01:44:15):
His relationship with Brunson, who's actually been a terrific leader,
has been a terrific player, and he's a huge part
of that resurgeon. Look, no coach is perfect, TI, but
it's certainly not perfect. The team had flaws, and I
think that sort of became part of the NIXT charm
that they found a way to overcome them. They found
(01:44:36):
a way to dethrow them the defending NBA champions. I don't
want to hear anying about injury. They were winning, that
they were going to win that series, all right, Their
core starting group, which by the way, the front office
spent a lot of money for Brunson, Mikhale Bridges, ogn
and ob Josh Rt. Karl Anthony Towns, well, Karl Anthony
(01:44:56):
Towns actually had a negative net rating for most of
the regular season through the playoffs, but they never really
truly maximized their offensive firepower and perhaps therein lies of
the rub particularly the second half of the season, and
I think that's where the owner and the president said
(01:45:18):
that falls on Tom Thibodeau. I also think that There
were questions about Thibodau's reluctance to play his bench, But
you know what was the reason behind that, Well, they
didn't have a lot of inspiring bench pieces, did they.
Mitchell Robinson missed most of the regular season due to injury,
but once he got back, he was a key unit
(01:45:39):
in the playoffs. But if you look at New York
second unit, it's primarily journeymen in late draft picks. That's
not debatable. That's a fact. Thibodeau also, as he did
in Chicago and other places Minnesota, received a lot of
grief and a lot of criticism for playing his starters
(01:46:01):
too many minutes. The starting group during the regular season
played more minutes than any five man unit in the
NBA during the regular season.
Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
Bridges and Heart number one and number.
Speaker 2 (01:46:09):
Two minutes played during the regular season ANOBI ranked eighth.
With that said, somehow the Knicks got through the regular
season without any major injuries. Brunson was the only one
who missed some time because he turned his ankle, but
New York's core guys were when they got to the
playoffs still standing and the team did not lose because
of health issues. Now I understand there was some friction
(01:46:33):
earlier in the year between Tom Thibodeau and mckille Bridges
because Bridges did speak out publicly about the starters playing
too many minutes. This is a big risk for the Knicks. Okay,
they've they've been making big risks. They made trades for
McHale Bridges and Karl Anthony Towns, and now you fired
Tom Thibodeau and these This is financial investment, this is
(01:46:57):
draft capital, This is risky. The stability that Thibodeau basically
had brought the last five years, and above all of it,
after all these years of the Knicks being a punchline,
they finally had some good pr When you talked about
the Knicks, it was not off the court, boloney, it
was basketball related. They appeared to be heading in the
right direction. And Tom Thibodeau clearly had a lot to
(01:47:23):
do with that. Look. I understand you got to set
a high bar, but after what happened, this just feels
a little weird. The timing feels weird. The franchise had momentum,
they were irrelevant. They've done things they hadn't done in
thirty years or twenty five years. I think Thibodeau deserved
one more season for no other reason that he's the
(01:47:44):
guy that brought them back to relevancy. Shouldn't he have
gotten Tom? Shouldn't Thibodeau have gotten one more shot? But listen,
the boss signs the checks and the boss of signs.
Speaker 15 (01:47:57):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
You know who gets a show and who does it?
Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
I think you know it did hurt Tom Thibodeau a
bit after falling behind two in the series. They couldn't
battle all the way back. They did win game three,
they didn't win game five, but they lost in six games,
just two games, two games short of an appearance in
the NBA Finals. Now, if you'd asked Knicks fans back
in October, you're gonna look into a crystal ball. You're
(01:48:24):
gonna get within two games of the NBA Finals, would
you take that? I think most of them would have
signed up for believing it's a builder, building a building
block for heading into the next year in the future.
And somebody would have told you back in October, Yeah,
you're gonna get within two games of the finals. You're
gonna win fifty games again, You're gonna have the eighth
(01:48:44):
three aded offense, and Thibodau is gonna get fired. There's
one other thing too. When you hire a coach, you
want to prove in Bobby or obviously right well, Thibodeau
was hired right before the start of the twenty twenty
twenty season, the year after the bubble, and the team
showed tremendous improvement under Tom Thibodeaux right out of the gate.
(01:49:08):
The team had a three eighteen winning percentage the year
before Thibodeau was there, and they had a five to
sixty nine winning percentage the first year Thibodeau was there.
They even made the playoffs for the first time in
nine years, even though they got beat by the Atlanta Hawks.
Then they had some regression, but then they made the
playoffs the next three seasons, got knocked out twice in
(01:49:29):
the Eastern Conference semi finals before getting the.
Speaker 3 (01:49:32):
Conference finals this year.
Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
As a career as a body of work, Tom Thibodeau
is fifty two games over five hundred with the Knicks
record of five to sixty five. Only three coaches in
the history of the New York Knicks going back eighty
years have won more games. And again, you know that
Thibodeaux had experience with the Bulls Minnesota, Timber Wolves. He
(01:49:54):
had a very six unful run in Chicago, led the
team to playoff appearances every year he he was there
for the five years he was there, then all the
way to the Eastern Conference Finals in Thibodeau's first season
and lost to Miami when they were fifty to thirty two.
After the twenty fifteen season, the Bulls fired him, even
(01:50:15):
though they had a six forty seven to winning percentage
with the franchise. The Timberwolves wasted no time snapping up
Tom Thibodeau had a rough first season, but then let
Minnesota to their first playoff appearance in fourteen years. But
then the team regressed and Thibodeau had an exit. All
in all, Thibodeau's won just one a six hundred games
(01:50:37):
as a head coach in the NBA. He's been the
NBA Coach of the Year twice. He's one hundred and
sixty games over five hundred in his career. Might Tom
Thibodeau be a highly sought after option on the free
agent market? I do understand they're telling us Thibodeau has
seemingly worn out as welcome with three separate franchises, but
(01:50:59):
his team seem to get results quickly, and despite his
regular season excellence, well, Thibodeau's searching for that first elusive
ever NBA championship as a head coach. Will he get
a another chance to coach in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
I'm certain of it.
Speaker 2 (01:51:14):
I don't know when, maybe not next year, but he will.
The question is who are the Knicks going to hire?
And that will that will be talked about and debated.
And I don't think they're in a hurry make a decision,
but I think they'll have to hear before the draft,
right and within three weeks fair enough. And look, one
(01:51:36):
of the things I don't want to go into tonight
is now that the dust has settled and the shot
has worn off, apparently some players have coming out and
they've complained you didn't develop the bench the way other
coaches should have.
Speaker 3 (01:51:48):
Other players complained about playing.
Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
To me minutes the same things, and you know, but
you don't fire a guy with three years, some thirty
million on a contract because you're losing the conference finals.
Somebody wanted them to, and just the timing and the
whole thing is odd to me. But it raises another question.
As you watch these NBA finals, I've got a thought
want to I want to advance. Remember the era of
(01:52:14):
the NBA Super Team? Is that era over? Yeah? I
kind of think it is coming up. I'm gonna share why,
and yes, I will bring receipts. By the way, shortly

Speaker 2 (01:53:22):
We are company line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports

Fradiles Show, Fox Sports Radio. Coming to live from the
diirect dot Com studios here in Las Vegas, just twelve
minutes away from the Dance Sensation sweep of the nation.
What kind of brand new fool you followed by? What
(01:53:43):
my name? Ah? No one can write the history of
the twenty twenty four twenty twenty five NBA season without
perhaps even leading a big trade that was so outrageously
sensational last February that no one believed it. They thought
(01:54:04):
it was I thought we were being scammed.
Speaker 3 (01:54:07):
Of course, I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:54:08):
Talking about Luka Doncic's traded the Lakers. That is well,
it's I compared it to the you know, the Kareem
Abdul Jabbar trade from the Bucks to the Lakers, basically
fifty years earlier. Because Lucas probably going to be a
Hall of Famer. I don't if you'll ever win. But
(01:54:29):
that's not the point. This shocked people, and it's going
to have ramifications for years to come. As a matter
of fact, that the only trade I can think of
that was really met with such crazy headlines in recent
times is when the Warriors signed Kevin Durant back in
the summer of twenty sixteen. Now see here's why that
(01:54:50):
trade turned heads Durant had already been a former MVP,
and he was going to a team that had actually
won seventy three games the year before. And that only
had Golden State won seventy three games the year before,
they'd already proved they could win a title with their
current core. Now I think Kevin Durant is a brilliant player. Well,
(01:55:13):
why would a seventy three win team need to sign
Kevin Durant when they'd already won championships? You see, from
twenty to fifteen to twenty nineteen, Golden State made five
straight finals and won three championships, two with Durant as
the finals MVV. What that signing did was create change
in the league's collective bargaining agreement. See, the Warriors were
(01:55:35):
able to sign Durant that year because the salary cap
jumped more than thirty percent in twenty sixteen, which happened
to coincide with the new media rights deal. Now jump
to twenty twenty three, the Collective Bargaining Agreement added caps
mooving that limits the year over year salary cap jumped
to ten percent. That rule has changed the way high
(01:55:58):
profile players jump from team to team and free agency.
It's dropped quite a bit Now trade requests are always
going to be prevalent. That's going to continue to happen.
The most impactful player to leave his franchise and free
agency in the last two years was probably Fred van Vlie
who won to turn it. We won a championship with
(01:56:18):
Toronto back in twenty nineteen. Now the CBA, the new
CBA also includes something called aprons. Now what those are
simply to a couple of additional salary thresholds above the
league's soft salary cap and luxury tax. But when you
violate each apron, it comes with a pretty severe penalty
(01:56:41):
that really starts to limit a team's flexibility to make
roster moves on top of pretty serious monetary penalties when
you exceed the luxury tax. So in the past, look
if you had a team with a deep pocket donor
like the Warriors and Clippers, they will just violate the
luxury tax and pay the penalties. Now, this two apron
(01:57:04):
salary structure has been criticized quite a bit by lots
of folks, most notably NBA gms. But you see, if
the NBA wanted to get rid of the super team
era and they wanted to create parody, well this two
(01:57:24):
apron salary structure, it was apparently just what the doctor ordered.
So case in point, the twenty twenty NBA Conference Finals
were recent, and you know you had two teams now
that never won a championship. You had Minnesota and you
(01:57:46):
had Indiana. So now you got Indiana facing off against Okay, See,
neither once won a championship. And guess what this is
now going to be the seventh consecutive season. For the
first time in league history, we're going to have a
new champion. Remember last year it was the Celtics, the
(01:58:07):
year before it was the Nuggets. In twenty twenty two
was the Warriors. In twenty twenty one, it was the Bucks,
in twenty twenty the Lakers. You remember the Hotel California
playoffs where you can check out any time you want,
but you can never leave.
Speaker 3 (01:58:24):
Yeah, they won the championship.
Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
I'm not going to diminish the Lakers for doing it,
but I'll go to my rest of my days saying, look,
they did it because they didn't have to travel and
they had two months off before the playoffs started. Otherwise,
why have they won one since? Okay, the Raptors won
it in twenty nineteen, So this year the Knicks are out,
they've won one in the past. The Tea Woulves are out,
(01:58:49):
they haven't. Three of the four teams hadn't won. Now
this is a diversity of market sizes too, but all
of them have struggled to win an NBA championship. The
most recent championship that you know, a conference finalist from
a small month, the Seattle SuperSonics in nineteen seventy nine.
That was actually when the Thunder. We're still the Seattle
(01:59:09):
SuperSonics if you want to count that for you, Trivia buffs.
So we'll watch this the next few years about the
long term effects of the NBA's malign salary structure, especially
as the Celtics they're expecting a record payroll. Teams like
the Thunder and Timberwolves they're gonna face questions about their
financial sustainability of their rosters. But is the era of
the NBA Super Team over yep. I think I just
(01:59:31):
proved it. I brought plenty of receipts new champion, seven
year in a row. Keep it locked up.
Speaker 1 (01:59:36):
Next, don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:59:41):
That's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Frannel Show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Frann. We
are coming to you live from the Fox Sports Radio
studios here in a Las Vegas, and we've come to
that time of the week. We've come to that juncture
in the show. You know what, you love it? You
can't leave without it, you see, because one said you
can observe a lot by watching.
Speaker 3 (02:00:02):
That's exactly what we do.
Speaker 2 (02:00:03):
Because across this great land of arms, from sea to
oily Sea, and even around the planet, well, people engage
in activities. And sometimes these activities cause you to raise
an eyebrow. Many times they're innocuous, stupid, silly, poor judgment.
Speaker 3 (02:00:20):
Other times, well they run to file the.
Speaker 2 (02:00:22):
Law, can get you in serious trouble, maybe even land
you in jail. But any way you slice it, anyway,
describe it, any way you characterize it, Well, these behaviors
that we allude to. Well, they always leave us scratching
our head and asking ourselves, what kind of brand new
fool of you?
Speaker 1 (02:00:45):
So, what kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
Well, I think we all agree that people who are
late to work are annoying, and I think we all
agree that the work that the TSA does is critical.
We agree on those two things. I know.
Speaker 3 (02:01:02):
I mean, I've always flown a lot, travel a lot.
Speaker 2 (02:01:06):
Recently, in the last couple of years, my wife and
I have flying all over the place, and we're continuing
to do that. So we're cursonally going through TSA. And
I want to wink in a nod and a tip
of the cap to the good folks at TSA who
do really a very good job. They really do, unless
you're late to work, which takes us to Tampa, Florida
in the case of a Miss Collier of Winterhaven. Well,
(02:01:30):
it's one thing to be late to work, but the
reason you're late to work, and the reason you are
hot and hot water for being late to work might
be because of what you did. Okay, so let's take
it from the top. A Miss Collier was already on
a TSA employment improvement plan because she'd had excessive tardiness.
(02:01:53):
I mean she was laid a lot. Well recently she
was late to work and she reason she gave was
that she hauled into the TSA Telecommunications office and said
she's gonna be late to work because well, there was
a knife wielding man trying to burgilize her parents' vehicle.
Speaker 3 (02:02:11):
That was a reason.
Speaker 2 (02:02:13):
Allegedly, she even filed a police report. So when her
supervisor asked her for a case number or a business
card from investigators, well, Conyor said she wasn't given either.
She was then asked to get a burglary report from
the Sheriff's office and give it to her supervisor. The
Sheriff's office said Collier texted her supervisor with a document
(02:02:34):
that looked like a police report, but she was ordered
to send the actual copy instead of just a picture.
Well I need this to say, as I'm sure you
can figure out by now, Collier never produced the copy itself.
According to the police report and the detectives, the image
was cut off in the second page and had no
incident description. When the detective saw the image, they said,
(02:02:57):
this is obviously a fake PCO burglary report. Or well,
that's the Polk County Sheriff's office. It was a fake,
obvious fake report. By the way, deputies willing to see
the caller used the name and member number of a
current POLP deputy on the fake report, but the deputy
(02:03:18):
was out of the country for vacation on the day
of the fake burglary, so the law got compounded. Furthermore,
Collier's parents said they did not know what the hell
she was talking about. Their vehicle is not burglarised, according
to the Sheriff's office, and the detectives asked Kyer about
the arm burglary. Callier Center employer contacted the Sheriff's office
and she you want to talk about the situation. Well,
(02:03:40):
Deputy's arrested Callyer and charges of criminal use of a
personal idea and uttering a false document. Can't make this
stuff up, Sheriff Judd said, I don't understand why anybody
would go to the extent of creating a fake police
report just to avoid a reprimanded work for tardiness. However,
Callier has invited you know, has violated the late rule
(02:04:01):
many many times, and now she's violated the trust of
her co workers and the people she was hoping to
keep safe. Well, Collier of the Florida TSA giving a
fake police report and trying to get away with being late.
What kind of brand new fool you? All right, Branda, you're.
Speaker 23 (02:04:26):
Up, alrighty. So we're going to head over to Perrysburg,
Ohio of What County School District is investigating how a
twenty four year old suspect was able to enroll in
its high school posing as a teenager for more than
a year and a half.
Speaker 15 (02:04:47):
Anthony E.
Speaker 23 (02:04:48):
Labrador Sierra it was, you know, posed as a sixteen
year old and even played on the JV soccer and
swim team. According to the school district, he originally had
gone to the district enrolled as a sixteen year old
unaccompanied unaccompanied minor under federal and state rules for students
(02:05:09):
experiencing homelessness or do not have a legal guardian. He
had obtained several pieces of identification, including a driver's a license,
and a social security number. They placed him in guardianship
with a Perrysburg family, so they also thought that he
was a minor but not actually a twenty four year
(02:05:30):
old man. So the district administrations met with him and
then he actually fest up to everything, and then he
was barred from the school grounds. So he is being
investigated on felony charges of forgery, accusing him of using
(02:05:51):
fake documents to attend the high school, and he is
being held on fifty thousand dollars a bail. If released,
he won't be able to leave with county and he's
due back in court later this month. I totally forgot
his name in Labrador Sierra at Anthony Labraorcierra. What kind
(02:06:13):
of brand new for are you? And why would you
want to go back to high school? Like I mean,
I feel like, once you graduate high school, who wants
to go back to that time in your life.
Speaker 3 (02:06:24):
Six years later?
Speaker 12 (02:06:25):
Yeah, it's creepy.
Speaker 2 (02:06:28):
And our institutions are failing us. Apparently the high school
missed it and the TSA worker let us down. But
that's why we recall this. What kind of brand new
fool are you? And by the way, I know, mister Ramsey,
you are a very busy man. Perhaps one of these
nights might you gracious with what kind of brand new
fool are you?
Speaker 3 (02:06:44):
Thoughts Mark?
Speaker 4 (02:06:45):
How about new?
Speaker 2 (02:06:47):
Alrighty, then we're moving on another rousing edition of what
kind of brand new fool or you is in the books,
which now allows us to segue to our second favorite,
which we.
Speaker 3 (02:07:01):
Refer to as what my Name?
Speaker 2 (02:07:04):
All right, So quarterbacks have been certainly a big subject
matter on tonight's show. So let's start with a couple
of quarterback what my name questions and I'll try to
give good clues. All Right. I mentioned that Aaron Rodgers
earlier in the show was one of eight Top twenty
(02:07:26):
quarterbacks who will be starting a game for his third franchise.
I to this day, I'm retired, but remained the only
quarterback to have started at least one game for nine
NFL teams.
Speaker 3 (02:07:43):
Here's a clue.
Speaker 2 (02:07:45):
I went to Harvard and I'm currently on the Thursday
night football broadcast, Brianna, what my name?
Speaker 23 (02:07:51):
Ryan Fitzpatrick?
Speaker 3 (02:07:52):
It is Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Speaker 2 (02:07:53):
I was going to go with the Beard, the big
giant Beard.
Speaker 23 (02:07:56):
Harvard gave it away for me.
Speaker 3 (02:07:58):
Yeah, there's not a lot.
Speaker 2 (02:07:59):
Of starting quarterback Harvard, much less ones to go for
nine years nine teams. All right, let's do another quarterback. Now,
this one did not go to Harvard. He actually went
to Fresno State. But he remains the only quarterback in
Super Bowl history to actually win a Super Bowl and
get released the next season. I played for Baltimore. Mark
(02:08:23):
Ramsey went my name.
Speaker 22 (02:08:28):
I'm gonna guess.
Speaker 4 (02:08:31):
Delfer.
Speaker 2 (02:08:33):
You got it, it's in fact Trent Delfer.
Speaker 3 (02:08:37):
Well, I think he's coaching.
Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
Well, he was coaching high school football in Tennessee and
then he was coaching college football. And don't think that's
working out so well. All right, let's move on to basketball.
I have scored checked that in last year's NBA playoffs.
I actually scored more points in last year's NBA playoffs
(02:08:59):
than any other player during the last year's NBA playoffs.
Speaker 3 (02:09:03):
Here's a clue.
Speaker 2 (02:09:04):
I no longer play for that team, Brianna with my
name Luca. It is, in fact Luka Doncic who we've
scored more points last year during the playoffs than any
other player. All right, let's jump to baseball, since it
is baseball season. I currently lead the major leagues with
(02:09:27):
twenty six home runs. Now I can tell you Mark,
HER's a good clue. It's come up in Steve de
Sager's update tonight. Mark Ramsey, what my name? I play
for the Seattle Mariners. I'm a left handed hitting catcher,
currently lead the Major League Baseball, all of Major League
(02:09:49):
Baseball with twenty six home runs?
Speaker 22 (02:09:51):
Is it somebody named Raleigh?
Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
It is, in fact named Raleigh cal Raley of the
Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 6 (02:09:58):
My next.
Speaker 2 (02:10:00):
My next clue, Mark would have been, he's got a
city in North Carolina named after him? Okay, moving on,
all right, back to basketball, since the playoffs are going
on to this day, in the history of the National
Basketball Association, I'm the winningest NBA head coach with a
(02:10:22):
total of two hundred and twenty nine playoff wins. I'm
the winningest head coach in playoff wins in the history
of the NBA with two and twenty nine, most of
them with two different franchises, Brianna with my name.
Speaker 23 (02:10:40):
Can I get a clue on one of the teams?
Speaker 7 (02:10:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:10:42):
Absolutely. The first one was the.
Speaker 1 (02:10:45):
Chicago bull Okay, so Phil Jackson, Phil.
Speaker 2 (02:10:47):
Jackson, Phil Jackson is the answer, and of course the
Lakers were the other franchise. All right, moving along, Among
active NBA coaches, I've got the most playoff wins with
one hundred and fourteen. Now I'm still active, but my
(02:11:10):
team did not do so well in the playoffs this year.
I will give you a clue. Mark, He's certainly he's
currently coaching in the Eastern Conference and it's considered a
big underachiever. In Game seven's Mark Ramsey. What my name?
Speaker 6 (02:11:29):
I'm guessing?
Speaker 24 (02:11:30):
Can I have a clue?
Speaker 2 (02:11:31):
I was thinking give another clue? Name is Glenn, but
he doesn't go by Glenn.
Speaker 1 (02:11:36):
Oh, Doc Rivers?
Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
Very good, Mark, very good? All right, last one.
Speaker 3 (02:11:41):
We're gonna go back to baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:11:43):
And uh uh, this might be my favorite question tonight,
actually because it's kind of a true What my name Trivia?
As a pitcher in the history of Dodger Stadium all pitchers,
I've struck out more hitters as a pitcher while pitching
at Dodger Stadium than any other player in Major League
(02:12:06):
Baseball history. Now here's a clue. It's actually, I think
a good clue. Same high school baseball team as Matt Stafford.
Speaker 3 (02:12:15):
Brianna, What my name is?
Speaker 2 (02:12:17):
Clayton Kershaw? And if I had a nickel for every
time somebody every time Matt Stafford, you know, I have
my own private jet with twenty four to seven access.
All right, great job on what my name? Mark? And Brianna?
And certainly what kind of brand new fool of you
and other rousing editions are in the books. By the way,
(02:12:37):
you can stream this show and all of our Fox
Sports Radio shows live twenty four to seven in the
new and improved iHeartRadio app. Just search Fox Sports Radio
in the app to streams live. And one of the
newest features in the app is that you can select
Fox Sports Radio is one of your presets. You just
like the presets on a radio dial, so be sure
(02:13:00):
to preset Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app will
always pop up on the.
Speaker 3 (02:13:07):
Top ears green.
Speaker 2 (02:13:07):
By the way, quick side note, you know baseball is
as popular as ever and what if I told you
that their ratings have jumped so well this year. Fox
is up ten percent. ESPN hits an eight year high.
And not only are are major League teams drawing at
record numbers, the turnstiles are up right big increases year.
(02:13:32):
Fans are also tuning into game broadcasts and greater numbers
in the league said just this last week that all
of its national TV partners, well, they are currently posting
audience increases. You want the individual talenties here they are.
Fox is up ten percent compared to last year. They're
averaging almost one point nine million viewers per game. ESPN,
(02:13:57):
despite the fact that they've announced that they're going to
want walk away three years early from their NBA checked
at their MLB rights contract e SPTE is actually up
twenty two percent from last year their game average of
one point seventy five million. This is their best network
audience since twenty seventeen. Here's where it's really going crazy,
(02:14:20):
and I think we all know why. In Japan, Major
League Baseball viewership has grown twenty two percent to an
average audience of two point seven million per game, even
if you exclude the Tokyo Series in March, which the
Dodgers in showge opened up in Japan. Now because of
the time zone differences, actually most Major League Baseball games
(02:14:42):
air in the morning at Japan, and they're drawn bananas.
Double digit percentage increases have also been posted for viewership
on other platforms, including MLBtv, MLB Network Showcase, and the
Tuesday night games on TBS. So when you consider that
the two point seven million viewers that ESPN is getting
(02:15:05):
on Sunday night on three point one million they got
last Sunday for the high profile Yankee Dodger series that
was a rematch of I guess the twenty twenty fourth series.
This viewership is not only on the aggregate up, but
it's also going up when you have these you know,
primetime showcase games, and that's not always easy to do.
(02:15:28):
You know, we talked about thank you, Herm Edwards. We
talked about this, excuse me earlier because the Caitlin Clark
game that didn't materialize Saturday night, well, that game drew
two point eight million viewers May twentieth, when the Sky
played the nn fever. Now we don't know what the
(02:15:52):
game drew Saturday night. I guarantee it was much less guarantee,
but had Caitlin Clark played, to increase upon that two
point seven million wouldn't been so easy. So baseball continues
to do this, all right, I mean, thank you, Kirk Cousins,
and I think again, this increase also is running lockstep
(02:16:16):
with the factors about a two percent increase.
Speaker 3 (02:16:19):
In Major League Baseball attendant.
Speaker 2 (02:16:20):
So far in the twenty twenty five regular season, teams
are averaging nearly twenty eight thousand per game, propagated over
eighty two home games eighty one home games. Excuse me,
every team is basically now drawing two and a half
million fans per year. It's incredible. Now part of that
the Major League Baseball is taking a little bit of
(02:16:41):
credit because they put in some strategic scheduling and I
think shohe Atani and Aaron Judge are are leading what
is a is a pretty good list of fan appeal stars,
including a lot of the Japanese pitchers, including you know,
and teams are watching Jan Soto.
Speaker 3 (02:17:00):
And if this.
Speaker 2 (02:17:01):
Continues, it would be the you know increase for the
third straight year. And by the way, it doesn't hurt
the guys like Paul Skeins, you know, kidding, basically right
out of LSU and straight to the big leagues. They
had that big jump last year. Florida had a first
baseman named Jack Kaglanon who's hit a million home runs
(02:17:23):
in college. He was a sixth overall player in the draft.
Last year he just got called up by the Royals.
He'd been hitting three twenty and a with fifteen home
runs even though the other played fifty games. And so
you're not only getting you know, the ESPN games, the
Fox games, the Marquee games.
Speaker 3 (02:17:42):
The Star games.
Speaker 2 (02:17:43):
You're getting the young players as well, and the small
markets Kansas City they're getting, you know, great ratings as well,
are great attendance and great viewership as well.
Speaker 3 (02:17:55):
And it doesn't hurt. They've got a.
Speaker 2 (02:17:57):
You know, an MVP candidate in in Bobbywood Junior. So
all around good news for Major League Baseball. And frankly,
it doesn't surprise me. It doesn't surprise me. I think
the game is the experienced a bit of a renaissance.
The rules changes that were implemented. You know, you gotta
(02:18:18):
throw a pitch every twenty seconds, se YadA, yeah, yah,
it's all contributed. Coming up to Bernie Fraudles Show continues.
Speaker 3 (02:18:25):
Keep it lock.
Speaker 2 (02:18:25):
You're listening to the Bernie Frawders Show on Fox Sports Radio.

the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio

Speaker 2 (02:18:43):
We're back on the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio,
coming to live from the tara Ac doct Oh. Boy
did it We're great. They're still a great sponsor the
Fox Sports Radio studios here in a Las Vegas. And
by the way, thanks again to all the midnight call
so we did touch on the steroid thing and meaning
that four players have been suspended this year, kind of
(02:19:05):
under the radar for the Yorks and Profile and Eric
Cosmo former Padre said they should lose the rest of
their contract. Meanwhile, in Memorial Day of twenty twenty six
will be a thing called the Enhanced Games. They can
place to Las Vegas track and field, weightlifting telebers.
Speaker 3 (02:19:20):
From all that.
Speaker 2 (02:19:20):
Stuff, you can take all steroids you want. You know
we didn't talk about is the obstinacy and the lack
of accountability and the outright defiance of many players who
were suspended. And there if you research it, you can
find what the quotes were when they were suspended, all right,
And for instance, Rafael Bettencourt about his suspension said quote,
(02:19:44):
I'm very angry and disappointed with Major League Baseball's decision
to suspend me. I'm going to file a grievance to
clear my name. I'm very sorry if this has caused embarrassment.
I look Fordy resolving this matter. Remember a Rod when
he got suspended. Now this again is dated, he may
have recantidate since very obstinate quote. The number of games
sadly comes with no surprises. The deck has been stacked
(02:20:05):
against me from day one. Really, I think I think
you think he failed twice. Miguel Takata said, you know,
I have a medical condition, you know, and one thing
after another, Johnny Peralta, you know, talked about actually he's
one of the only guys who took full responsibility for it.
(02:20:28):
But for the most part, Ralphael Palmeiro, you know what
what he said. He said, there's no absolute reason for
me to do anything. There's nothing for me to gain.
I knew I was approaching three thousand nites. I was
not going to put everything on the line. And you
know what happened there with with Raphael Paul Mehra. The
vast majority of major league player player players, even though
(02:20:49):
some said I made a foolish mistake and this and that,
so one and so forth, the vast majority were really
not very Let's just put it this way. They didn't
take a great accountability for what they did. And you know,
I remember when I was in Detroit covern the Tigers.
He had a player named Alex Sanchez. He looked like
(02:21:10):
he waged about a buck twenty five and he was
not a home run hitter, and he got suspended for
story and I think it was back like in twenty
oh five, and we were very surprised, But we weren't
surprised because if you flunked the test, you flunked the test.
But he said, quote, I take some kind of stuff
up over the counter, multi vitamin protein shakes, mostly relaxers,
(02:21:31):
that kind of stuff, over the counter stuff, stuff to
give me energy. I'm surprised because I look at what
kind of player I am. I never hit any home runs.
I don't know. It surprised me. Come on, man, you
flunked the freaking drug test. So it's water under the ridge,
but it's not one under the bridge because it continues
to happen.
Speaker 3 (02:21:47):
It's just not.
Speaker 2 (02:21:48):
Anywhere near than cessational sports story that it was twenty
five years ago. Unless and less, of course, you're Roger Clemens,
Barry Bonds and Raphael Paul Merrow and Sammy Sosa and
you're still trying to get into the Hall of Fame,
then it's still a big deal. All right. We've covered
(02:22:08):
just about every sport so far tonight that's on the calendar,
and as we say, we like to cover them all football.
You know, we're into June and you mark the calendar
and o TA or checked that ot is are done.
Now you've got mini camp, mandatory mini camp, so it'll
(02:22:28):
be in the news. And July is around the corner.
And when July is here, the NFL's here. Let's just
face it. Teams, teams going to camp. It dominates. And
but we also talk to the other football, which is
spilled f U T bo L And if you pay attention,
there's always legitimate news to report. That's why at this
time we bring you Chris Purffett's World of Soccer.
Speaker 25 (02:22:50):
The Greatest School, the thrilling finishes, the international, no drum,
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 24 (02:23:09):
Well, Bernie, before we begin, let's just say congratulations to
Paris Saint Germain. We know it's about a week late.
We were off last week, but Paris Saint Germain stomping
on inter Milan in the Champions League final in such
a way that I've seen. It been remarked that this
is one of those losses that inter Milan, no stranger
of the Champions League, will be ruing this day for
(02:23:30):
generations to come and will remember when they had five
goals dropped on them by a youth squad We talked
about the youth generation of Paris Saint Germaine and this
is remarkable to watch them go from a from ages
of Big three of Namar Messay and Mbape to this.
Speaker 4 (02:23:48):
But we'll put that to the side.
Speaker 24 (02:23:49):
There is international play that has been happening as World
Cup qualifying going, WAFA Nations League going on. But the
USA went out and lost a friendly. Now, depending on
you ask, it's fine, this was a tune up. They
actually looked like the better half. I'm sorry, I don't
really agree with that right now. And Budgetino becomes the
(02:24:09):
first USA men's manager to lose his first three matches
since Jurgen Klop, which granted there hasn't been a lot
in between there maybe that's a sign for good things
to come. I found it just utterly listless after the
first you know, they had a first minute goal, but
then after that just kind of like really fussing about.
And apparently you will not have Christian poolasitch for the
(02:24:33):
Conka CAF Gold Cup, which seems weird, like this club
is not this this team, this nation is not good
enough to be having time off, regardless of their automatic
bid to the the World Cup in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (02:24:48):
Tick tick, You've got about.
Speaker 24 (02:24:51):
One year and you're looking like this against Turkey, and
Turkey is a fun is you know, a fine nation
right now? But again the point of the USA isn't
too be going down to one to a fine nation.
The criticism of USA men will continue until morale improves.
As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason at all
(02:25:12):
whatsoever for any of this right now. This club, this team,
excuse me, has continued to be in the shadow of
those clubs that those teams that came before, and just
continues to be like, why can't I see that again? Meanwhile,
UEFA Nations League keep trying to say as on Champions League,
(02:25:34):
Laminia mall is once again wowing people. Norway has shown
themselves to be a force with Earling Holland going nuts scoring,
so fair fair shot for the new generation of stars
coming up from Europe to be making their presence known. However,
we always talk about the crowded calendar, and by this
(02:25:56):
time next week, around the middle of June, we'll be
jumping immediately from World Cup qualifiers to FIFA World Cup.
For clubs, the FIFA Club World Cup is happening in
around June fourteenth, fifteenth, twenty twenty five. Yes, so about
(02:26:17):
a week and change away. FIFA and its top brass
has made no bones whatsoever about how they want a
slice of uefas pie that they have with the Champions League.
It will be fascinating to watch. How much of this, however,
is the top guys playing. We just finish up long
domestic seasons. We just we went straight from domestic seasons
(02:26:40):
and Champions League final straight into an international break. And
now you're going to jump on their bones again and
say lay club soccer.
Speaker 1 (02:26:50):
I this is a lot.
Speaker 24 (02:26:52):
This is like if right after the Super Bowl you
asked football players to come back for Spring League that said,
as long as they'll play it, people will come. This
is plenty of chance to get in there, and it is,
of course the World Cup of Club Soccer. It's not
just UEFA. And it's a chance to see something interesting.
It's a chance to see something like Paul Maris a
very good club from Brazil, and Flamengo also from Brazil,
(02:27:15):
and those other Comma bals pair off against UEFA. It's
a chance to see an MLS side go in there.
The inclusion of you might be wondering about some of
the inclusion of some of these clubs because it starts
to really though head scratch considering the history of what
we've seen this past year, because you get the slots
by winning your continents league in those in calendar years,
(02:27:39):
in those years until the next World Club World Cup.
So you will see Man sitting in there because they
won the Champions League in twenty twenty three. You will
see All Hellal in there, and we've talked a lot
about Al Halal, but they won't have Christiano Ronaldo. And
they're qualifying because they won the AFC Champions League in
twenty twenty one, way back in twenty twenty one, and
(02:28:01):
you will see MLS sides, but LAFC is only here
because a Mexican club was disqualified because of FIFA rules.
The Sounders got in because they want a Conka CAF
Champions League title there. But the other MLS side, Inter
Miami is getting in because they are hosting, yes hosting,
apparently hosting a Club World Cup. So I guess they
(02:28:23):
were hoping for the Ronaldo Messi but it's not gonna happen.
They'll still get the Messi bucks either way. Very odd
once again favoritism for Inter Miami, and I just have
to keep scratching my head at what I understand that
this is Lionel Messi we're talking about and viewers. You
want to put in the one that viewers want to watch.
But soccer is founded on meritocracy more than anything.
Speaker 1 (02:28:46):
In the world.
Speaker 24 (02:28:48):
On paper, this is all a great idea with the
World Cup. However, in practice I think this will be
utterly dominated by UEFA. They hold the most slots at
twelve clubs, obviously because they've had the best region in
the world. Because unlike the World Cup, where you at
least we'll get some pushback from South America, they also
get all the best players. So as much as it
will be fun and maybe Paul Marris can make a
(02:29:10):
fight of something, or maybe Flamengo can show up, or
maybe even aside like Al Halal or the Japanese Wawa
Red Diamonds, can you know, have some fun out there.
Expect by the when the dust clears to be no
one other than Manchester City or Real Madrid or Bayern,
Munich or Paris, sing Germain or inter Milan to lift
(02:29:31):
this trophy.
Speaker 2 (02:29:32):
We'll have some fun with.
Speaker 24 (02:29:33):
It and see you next time, Bernie and all more
national news on the world of soccer.
Speaker 2 (02:29:40):
Yeah, it's it's always a little dicey, but you don't
if you dig deep, there are stories and uh, I
don't know I did. It won't be long. We'll be
back talking World Cup and his team losing a friendly again.
You know, the United States. We don't win at soccer
because I don't think we care win. We act like
(02:30:00):
we do, but we don't, and or the women do.
But even the rest of the world started to catch
up with them a little bit. But but I digress.
Coming up, we wrap up the show and major ruling
in the House versus the NCAA this week paved the
way for colleges to pay athletes, but they can pay
them directly. Now. I'm not gonna get too heavily into
(02:30:22):
this tonight. I'm gonna save it for next week because
I'm gonna study it. There's a lot of winners and
losers in this. People want to know how's it's gonna work.
What's the houses going to change in il enforcement, contracts,
transfer portal, all those things. And I'm gonna have all
that stuff for you next week in detail, because what's
happening now is a new revolution college sports amateurism completely
(02:30:45):
out the window.
Speaker 3 (02:30:46):
Fine, you know, time marches on.
Speaker 2 (02:30:49):
I don't question it, but as is the case with
a lot of things, it answers some questions and it
raises a few more. And finally I'm gonna wrap up
the show. How will Derek Carr be remembered? Derek Carr
will be no more in the National Football League, But.
Speaker 3 (02:31:07):
He did something on the way out.
Speaker 2 (02:31:09):
Because I've I've been critical of Car a lot his
years with the Raiders, and certainly, you know, when he
got to New Orleans, he was everything I thought he
wouldn't be in less and completely underwhelming. But how will
Derek Carr be remembered? Well, He'll be remembered certainly for
his play on the field, which had some highlights, but
(02:31:30):
something he did on the way out too as he
brings his career to a close, and it's very noteworthy.
I'm Bernie Fradda were Kenedy Lyon from Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, wrapping
it up on the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio.
Been with you since eleven pm Pacific on Saturday night.
(02:31:52):
I want to thank my producers, Mark and Brianna. Appreciate
all the hard work keeping the airplane on the ground, off,
actually keeping the airplane in the air, turning on all
the dials, keeping us good together, managing through all the
calls in the midnight hour.
Speaker 3 (02:32:07):
Thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (02:32:08):
Appreciate all the efforts. There was a major decision in
college football this week. Schools are now free to be
in paying their athletes directly. This is a dawn of
a new era. It's a multi billion dollar legal settlement
and there's a lot of layers to unpack, and I'm
(02:32:30):
gonna do it next week. Might even make it part
of the midnight hour, because when you hear some of
the things that this settlement, which was formally improved Friday, entail,
you may or may not raise an eyebrow, but you're
gonna have an opinion. I guarantee it. Okay. For instance,
I bet you didn't know the NCAA is gonna pay
(02:32:50):
back almost three billion in back damages over the last
ten years to athletes who competed in college at anytime
from twenty sixteen to the present.
Speaker 3 (02:33:00):
I don't know how they're gonna do that.
Speaker 2 (02:33:01):
We're gonna look into that and moving forward again, each
school can pay its athletes up to a certain limit.
Now there's gonna be a cap per school starting this year.
It started July first, would be roughly twenty point five
million per year per school, and it's going to increase
every year during this deal, which is a ten year deal.
(02:33:22):
This is obviously very historic. It's a major milestone, and
there are winners and losers. Okay, they're not everybody is
going to be a winner from this. Let's say you're
one of those renegade boosters that help make this money
explode and you got involved in pay for play, You're
(02:33:44):
not going to be able to be involved anymore. The
schools are going to pay directly. You know, I know
there are purists out there that you know, lose their
mind over the term amateurism. But student athletes been athlete
has been a fraud for five decades or maybe even longer. Okay,
so you're gonna have to get over that. It's been
(02:34:05):
a long time coming. Remember this started with the Eddio
man in lawsuit. I mean, I don't I'm gonna get
into this bigger next week. All right, the group of
five schools, All right, what if they can't fully fund
the twenty point five million dollar cap, which is only
gonna go for years to come. You got SEC and
Big ten schools, no problem, but not the Big five schools.
(02:34:27):
How about the non revenue sports, the Olympic sports? You know,
how about them? Do they? How do they share in
the pot? We're gonna get into all of that next week.
And you know, how is this going to affect nils?
How will players be paid? Which schools will be eligible?
Is somebody get to administer this? Yes, there will be.
(02:34:49):
There's something gonna be called the College Sports Commission, which
hasn't even been created. It's the best of my knowledge.
And what's interesting, there's gonna be a salary cap and
all deals are gonna have to be approved, moved. It's
my understanding through a clearinghouse run by the accounting firm
of Deloitte to what they say ensure quote fair market
value based on their actual endorsement. Okay, for example, an
(02:35:13):
offensive lineman who you've never heard of could could potentially
make six figures in the NIL era. Now they may
still be able to do that with a revenue sharing contract,
but those contracts are going to be far more stringent.
But if you're a player like Cooper Flaggett Duke, well,
you know you're gonna you're gonna benefit from that name recognition.
What's gonna happen to the collectives that they're not even
(02:35:35):
sure yet? And will revenue share contracts be binding? Uh,
there's a lot of questions yet to be answered. And again,
not everybody is gonna benefit in a way where it's
across the board. And you've got a situation where you know,
the tide rises, all the boats rise, the tide rises,
(02:35:58):
most of the boats are gonna rise, but not all
of them. All Right, we've seen the money explode in
recent years from these collectors. Remember how many times did
we have to hear Ohio State spend twenty million putting
that football team together in a work they won the
national championship. And you know, but some rosters will have
(02:36:20):
forty million, and again some rosters can only have before
to have three million. Anyway, I'm doing what I said
I wouldn't do. I'm going to get into this more
fervently next week. So Derek carr Is officially retired. He
(02:36:41):
knew he was in a predicament because he had a
shoulder injury, and the shoulder injury was going to need
a pretty severe surgery. He had a lot of degenerative
damage to his rotator cuff, which.
Speaker 3 (02:36:55):
Is very important.
Speaker 2 (02:36:56):
Okay, So yes, he retired on May tenth, but not
before a lot of you know, internal soul searching and deliberation.
He knew he would have had to have surgery. He
probably wouldn't have played this year, and he wanted to
just sit there and with surgery and take the Saints' money.
He said he would not have been able to play
if he had a surgery, but he would have been
eligible for the money. He signed a four year, hundred
(02:37:16):
and fifty million dollar contract with the Saints in twenty
twenty three at the end of the day. So the
Saints will go into their season with Tyler Schuck, Spencer Rattler,
and Jay Kyner. They known about Carr's injury since March,
and they went through the draft process. They wanted to
see what he did when. According did their head coach
Kellen Moore, he did everything he could to get back.
(02:37:38):
Here's the bottom line. You know, Carr was sixty three
and seventy nine as a starter with the Raiders, never
won a playoff game. The last eight years were really
up and down. He seems like a nice guy, but
I don't want to really quarterback in my team, and
he won't be quarterbacking anybody's team anymore. But what Carr
did the other day is very noteworthy. Okay, so when
(02:38:01):
he retired, he elected and he did this through his agent,
and his agent David I believe his name is well,
I don't know. His name, doesn't matter. He said, you're
sure you want to do this, and he says, yeah,
it's tough, but I felt like as the right thing
for myself on the team.
Speaker 3 (02:38:18):
He left.
Speaker 2 (02:38:19):
Car left thirty man guaranteed on the table that he
would have received in twenty twenty five even if he
hadn't played it down the car I think was sincere.
What he said, I never really played for the money.
A whole bunch of people tell me how crazy I was.
I never would have done that. It's all cool, but
the bottom line is in cars made over two hundred
million in his caurse you don't need to take up
a collection played for him, but he basically said I
(02:38:39):
really couldn't take the money in good conscience knowing I
wasn't contributing. So whatever you think about Derek Carr, whatever
you remember about Derek Carr, this will be attached to
him for his entire life. It's really kind of a
noble thing to do, and it's something that will probably
never see done again, maybe not in my lifetime, so
we'll have to see. It's going to do it for
(02:38:59):
the Bernie Frater Show. See you next Saturday at eleven PM.
Keep it up for Andy Furman Up next
