home yet. This might be troubling. And how about Miles Garrett.
He wants a meeting with the boss, the Big Boss.
He wants to usurp the chain of command. You can't
do that. Jimmy Hasnam did the right thing because it
sets a precedent. There's protocol. But I digress. We're going

to get to all that stuff and more, and I
can't wait to hear what the callers have to say.
But the headlines of the week never seems to fail,
even though we got a lot of stuff with our
man Mark Medino be coming up in about fifteen minutes.
We start with football because we have to. It's the law.
The biggest sports story this week are still, in my view,
having to do with the NFL fresh out of the

combine and Monday, the legal tampering period starts. Just like that,
the Raiders trade for Gino Smith. He's reunited with Pete Carroll. Gino, Hey,
they wrote me up, but I ain't right back. Three
winning seasons, ten wins last year, Raiders look like they're
at least going to try to win right now. What
does that do to Aaron Rodgers. Well, I tell you

that the noos is tightening a little bit. By the way,
maybe this wasn't shocking, although gosh, he just seems like
this guy just left Ohio State. The Chargers released Joey
Bosa earlier this week, entering one of the best tenders
in Charger franchise history. Nine seasons, Bosa had seventy two sacks,
made five Pro Bowls. But the move saves the Chargers

and the unfortunate, injury prone Joey Bossa about twenty five
million dollars in cap space. Meanwhile, Seattle, well, Gino Smith
wasn't the only one to bowlt town. Dk Metcalf he
wants to trade. He's requesting trade after the team apparently
could not come close to meeting on his contract extension demands.

And by the way, Negotia's negotiations are already underway with suitors.
There should be plenty because Metcalf is a high caliber player.
He's only twenty seven. Seattle also loses Tyler Locket Wow, Vegas,
they weren't done. Just just before getting Gino Smith, they
locked up Max Crosby. He's now the highest paid non

quarterback in NFL history. A three year, one hundred and
six million dollar extension ninety one million of that guarantee.
Crosby's probably worth the money, and the Raiders new regime
views him as a centerpiece, so it's in a sense
this smart move is a politically smart move and Crosby,
hopefully he'll return healthy Philadelphia. I don't know how Howie
Roseman does it. He's a genius. They not only get

Saquon Barkley locked up two years forty one point two
million and extension, but they get linebacker Zach Bond also
three years fifty one mil. The Super Bowl champs in
their strength, Barkley's pay day is not surprising, but retaining Bond,
who's arguably the best linebacker in the market who people
all said the Eagles could afford, that's a coup. By

the way, another trade kind of under the radar, chief
center guard Joe Tuna to Chicago for a fourth round pick.
He's a four times Super Bowl champion, in the first
team All Pro selection last two season, and he did
not have a good game in the Super Bowl. But
give the Bears an aid for this. He'll step into
Chicago and he'll protect Caleb. By the way, Cincinnati The

Bengals still intend to sign both Jamar Chase and t
Higgins to long term beals or but they do remain
far apart. We'll see what happens there. The legal tampering
period starts Monday. But that's his storyline hanging over our heads.
I'm going to tell you another one. So more of
this guy talks, the less I like him. I think
Shudor Sanders has been a sensational story. I think he's

a good quarterback. Now he had to talk this past week,
which is seemingly what he does best. Right now, you
know you all tried to make me make my stock drop?

improved at the Combine. Boise State running back Ashton Genty
is a stellar individual. According to some draft wop experts,
He's moved up fourteen spots now. No first round prospect
improved more than him. Remember, Genty was the runner up
in the Heisman to Travis Hunter, and there are there

is real conversation. You could see the Raiders drafting Ashton
Genty at number six overall. One NFL executive who was unnamed, said, quote,
adding genty to Chip Kelly's offense would vastly upgrade a
unit lacking an identity. Well, maybe you'd have had that
identity if you let Josh Jacobs go. The Raiders only
ran for thirteen and fifty seven yards the entire season

last year. That's his second worst mark in the last
six years. Offensive lineman, they do God's work. Will Campbell
of LSU he moved up eight spots. It looks like
the Jaguars may nab him at number five. Another offensive tackle,

of you know, these network executives. Will Johnson somehow dropped

cornerback out of Michigan. They claim he dropped twelve spots. Okay, why,
I don't know. They say he's got strong eyes, smooth feet,
coverage IQ. Well, but he's tumbling why apparently injury concerns.
We'll have to keep an eye on that. But back
to the legend, Shudor Sanders according to these draft walks

and why not we have to talk about the shows tonight.
As Arnie likes to say, Shudor Sanders, according to some people,
have and may have dropped as many as fifteen spots.
Now make a liar out of me. I don't care.
I think cam Woord may go number one. If Cleveland's
crazy enough to draft him in the top five, you're crazy, Okay.
But they're saying he could drop as far as twenty one.

Is at the end of the world. No, Dan Marino
dropped aarreon Rodgers drop. Lots of great quarterbacks drop. I
can give you a list of star quarterbacks who were
drafted to the second round. But they're saying he could
drop to Pittsburgh. Again, this is all theoretical at number
twenty one. Why quote Mike Tomlin is a fan of
players with NFL bloodlines. All right, Sanders is a paradox. Okay,

here's the deal. He holds onto the ball forever. He's
like a Madden player trying to make a big play.
At Colorado, he lost on average thirty four yards sackyards
per game. That's by far the country's most I know
you're gonna tell me Colorado's offensive line was bad, but
it wasn't that bad. But give it up as completion

percentage of seventy one point eight. He is the highest
in FBS history. So which is he does he take
a sack so he doesn't have to throw an interception
or any complete pats Usually once he throws the ball,
good things kind of happen. The thought is, is one
team going to try to talk themselves into him into
round one and make a splashy play. I'm on record,

I no longer think he grades as a first round
draft choice. I'm not saying he's not going to get
into the NFL. He may win five Super Bowls. Fine,
just do it. Don't tell me, show me you think
I'm an idiot, Get on the field, do it. But
to me, does not have that one elite tool that
top ten players have. He does not have that one
superhuman power. All right, what does the tape show? His

biggest strength is accuracy? All right? That was not a fluke.
He does excel at reading coverages, making progressions, attack in
the middle of the field. He's the son of an
NFL player. He's a tough athlete, an above average athlete,
seemingly a good leader. Not crazy about the rolex rotters
and the rules. Royce is but that's just how he
wants to roll. But I think his ceiling is limited. Okay,

he doesn't really fit the mo old schadrs. Sanders does
not really fit the mold of quarterbacks picked in the
first round. In recent years, teams are looking for plus
traits at every position. They're looking for the next Lamar Jackson,
Justin Herbert Josh Allen. Yes, he's a classic pocket passer,
but he does have a limited physical skill set. That's

the truth. When you put him on the field with
the NFL athletes, doesn't mean he doesn't have a place
in the league. He has good traits. You've heard me
say it a thousand times. Quarterback in the NFL is
a position you play with your eyes. You receive the ball,
you make mental snapshots, you execute. He could read a defense.
His accuracy's pretty good. But if you're talking to anonymous

scouts who are willing to talk off the record, here's
what I hear. Frankly, he lacks arm strength. When you're
talking about big time arm strength the NFL stars have.
If he's laid on a read, it's going to be
a difficult completion because his passes don't arrive fast enough.
He rarely completes tight window throw because he doesn't have
the velocity in zip and that kind of stuff to

throw on a straight line. His passes don't have the
pace to hit receivers perfectly and stride. Frankly, Sanders under
threw a lot of passes last year, and the irony is,
you know he's strength his accuracy, but he's not accurate enough.
Believe it or not, Shodurse. Sanders has a stronger arm
than say Joe Montana had, but Montana's passes were so

pinpoint throwing receivers open. He made up for it again.
Shoe Door is an accurate passer, but it's not a
lead accuracy and it's affected when he's pressured. If he
doesn't have a solid base, he doesn't generate enough power
to a throw when he's throwing off platform. Good processor,
but not strong enough, not great pocket presence. This is

what the scouts are saying when you watch the tape.
Sanders is impressive with his willingness to absorb a hit
and if that's what it took to get a pass out,
he'd do it. But unfortunately Colorado's offensive line, which wasn't
great to bailing out to early a lot. Okay, he
didn't throw the ball beyond the line of scrimwage a lot.
Did you know that Sanders was only one hundred and

twelfth in the nation and air yards per throw him
on qualifying passes and he could have thrown at the
Shrine Bowl and combining that could have helped to spell
some of these narratives, but Sander's refused to do either
best comp believe it or not again, this isn't for me.
This is a moscow who does this for a living.
He's been around thirty years. Chad Pennington, He's like a

version of Chad Pennington, who actually had a very good
ten year career with the Jets. All right, you put
him in the right system, he might thrive if he
didn't remember. Look, he has warning signs, just like Colt McCoy,
mac Jones, Zach Wilson, Chase Daniel. They were all good
QB twos in the NFL. None were with worth first

Well, we're going to get to that in a minute.
I have my thoughts. I certainly want to get your thoughts.
But prior to that, Lebron exited the game against the Celtics,
you know, with an injury Saturday night, and depending on
who you talk to, you don't know. But somebody I
trust thinks it could be several weeks. Is that true

(14:45):
or not?

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Well, we'll see. Lebron James actually a game with talent
reporters that he doesn't have too much concern. He initially
had flashbacks when he had that groin injury Christmas Day
twenty eighteen, first season with the Lakers against the Warrior. Now,
if that's the case, it would be bad news because
he missed the next seventeen games after that. But for
what it's worth, he was adamant, even though he had

to miss the final six forty four against the Celtics,
that he feels like it'll get better. But here's the
bottom line, no one really knows. He'll have a better
idea tomorrow once testing starts. But even if it's a
few days, this is a critical juncture because yes, they
lost the Celtics, but they're a really good team. They
had won eight in a row. But now they're in

(15:29):
the lions Den, they're on a long road trip. They
got six games next eight days, and some of those
games include games against the Denver No get some Milwaukee Bucks,
and those are all, you know, measuring stick games. Obviously
to say the least.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Well, here's the thing, until they'll do an MRI tomorrow.
Is that correct? Because if it's softissue, you're not going
to know anything until you take a look at it
and move some medical imaging. So is that true that
they'll do an MRI Sunday or what do do we know?

Speaker 5 (15:57):
Well, don't know specifically if it's MRI, but yeah, they
don't have Sunday in some shape or format will provide
clarity on severity of injury and timetable and all that
fun stuff.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
All right. Prior to that, I was also going to
mention very quickly the situation in Dallas. Kyrie Irving goes
down with an ACL. I mean, there's bad luck, and man,
there's bad luck. Ad was playing like a wild man
for one half. You saw what happen there a week
and a half ago. Now Kyrie goes down. Now Mark

Cuban comes out and makes the statement that they should
have maybe gotten more back for Luca. What's the move
inside the four walls in Dallas.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Oh, it's just crumbling. I mean, ever since Lucas got
traded almost a month ago, they've gone from a team
that was trying to get back to the NBA Finals
that might just be just competing for draft lottery onds
in May. It is just wild, the wild chain of events,
and obviously the big game changer is Luka Danchoch. I

(16:58):
don't think anyone's in to write and anyone's right mind
unless you're Niko Harrison thought it's a good idea to
trade Luka Dancich. But to Mark Cuban's point, if you're
going to go down that path, make sure you get
a haul in return. And look what they got in return.
It's all respectable. Anthony Davis was putting himself in the

defensive Player of the Year conversation. Prior to this latest injury.
He had been mostly durable. Max Christie great two way talent.
They got a draft pick, but when you're talking about
Luka Danco, who's one of the top five players right
now in the NBA, you got to get another draft
pick and another solid All Star Haliver player to justify

(17:43):
this trade. And not only did they do that, not
do that, but now it's all falling like a house
of cards with AD's injury, Kyrie's injury. I think the
thing to keep in mind here, I actually have a
piece that's coming out tomorrow where I talk to different
outside doctors for their perspective with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.

(18:05):
It's not just the fact that Kyrie Irving's out for
this season. When you're looking at ACL injuries, you know,
the feedback I was getting from these doctors is that
the timeline can be anywhere from six to twelve months.
So if he is going to return, it's not going
to be at the beginning of that season. It's going
to be some at some point, you know, in the middle,
maybe in twenty twenty six. But there's also a chance

that he also misses all the next season as well,
because those ACL injuries are no joke.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
Believe men, I'm very very well aware of My daughter
played division on soccretory Aco three times in the same kneed.

Speaker 5 (18:41):
Oh I'm sorry to hear those anyway.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
One last thing about Dallas mark management can come. They
had to sign off on this deal before it would happen,
so they can't really come back. They can, but coming
back after the fact posthumously in saying well we should
have gotten more, you know, that falls a little shallow

(19:05):
to me.

Yes, I think we have to keep in mind here
Mark Cuban isn't calling the shots anymore. He sold his
ownership shares, and while you know he is an advisor,
we clearly seen that he doesn't have any say in
basketball matters. If he did, the Luca Docta trade would
have never happened. So you know, when you're looking at

(19:26):
who's in charge now, they're the ones that approved it.
And I think because of that, obviously this is Nico
Harrison's trade that he has to own him sell, and
this is going to live with him for better and
for worse. But in the short term, you know, I
don't think his job is going anywhere because you know,
their current ownership groups been on record, you know, defending

(19:49):
the move. So I think it would be a much
different tune if they started to getting giving interviews where
they questioned the deal. Mark Cuban, Yes, his voice matters.
We obviously know how influential he was, but he doesn't
have the same voice as he did before with the Mavericks.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Specifically, fair enough, I had this trade as it were,
has to it has to have its day in court.
I would have been extremely curious. A healthy Ad, a
healthy Kyrie, those two teams get on the floor would
have made for a very interesting matchup. We don't know
if they're passed across in the playoffs. We're certainly not
going to know this year, maybe not even next year.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
Well but yeah, and it's a good point, like they
are all good players here, but I think that this
also exposes the fallacy of their thought process. Now, I
do need to make a distinguishable point here that just
because Anthony Davis has injury history, all of a sudden
it was inevitable he was going to get hurt. Well,
he hadn't been heard in two years Kyrie Irving. There

was a lot of knee jerk reaction about, Okay, did
his usage rate contribute to him getting hurt? You know,
the doctors I talked to just you know, they entertained
that there is a school thought with that that when
you are fatigued, you're more susceptible injury. But they also
mentioned with non contact injuries A lot of times just
stuff happens, right, But what I'm getting at is, even

(21:12):
when I give them the benth of the dow those
two things, it's still exposes the fallacy of the reason
why they trade Luca. They traded Luca partly because of
concerns about his durability and his conditioning at twenty five
years old, and therefore you have more faith in Kyrie
Irving and Anthony Davis, who are in their thirties, and

Anthony Davis, who has more of an extensive injury history.
That thought process doesn't make sense. So while I'm not
going to say these injuries are directly related to the
Luca trade in the short term, it does expose their
lack of foresight in the long term and investing in
two thirty year old type players instead of a twenty

six year old player.

I think that's all fair. And again the key phraseology
was bad luck. Anthony Davis had played north of seventy
games the last couple years. It's just bad luck of
the of the nth degree. So we'll move on from that.
What's the latest on Wenby and is there any update

(22:20):
at all?

Speaker 5 (22:22):
No update, really, I mean he's out for the season.
I think, you know right now, And again I did
another piece talking outside doctors because when we were talking
about injuries here, most teams, you know, don't divulge a
lot of stuff. So I think right now, the sense
I get of knowing the typical timeline for people who

(22:42):
have blood cloths, it's all about resting right now. At
some point he'll probably get surgery, but we don't know
when that is, and then it's going to be all
about him having blood thinners and seeing if that helps,
you know, him recover, making sure it doesn't spread. But
there's not going to be an update for a while.

You know.

It's one thing if he's around the team. I believe
he still is, but it's not like all of a
sudden he's starting to make any sort of progress with
his recovery. It's more about just let's wrest and recuperate,
and if you are with the team, you know, behind
the scenes, great, but I don't think it's a requirement.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
All right. Before I get to the lebron Stephen A
Ted of Ted, I want to talk about Zion Williamson.
And here's why, because I think three or four shows
ago I somewhat made the statement that it's just simply
time for the Pelicans to move on, and all of
a sudden, this guy looks like the second Coming. Last Sunday,

(23:43):
he had thirty seven. I forget who was against. He
looked incredible, seventeen to twenty three from the floor, just
a dominant you know, six assists for rebounds, he was stealing, blocking,
all that kind of stuff. I think it was against
the Lakers at a loss, but he looked in credible.
So this is this type of performance slashing what they

(24:05):
hoped Zion could be five years ago? Is this making
it difficult for the folks in New Orleans to make
a decision on him. What's going to happen with Zion?

Speaker 5 (24:15):
Well, it's always going to be fluid because his availability
is football. We'll tell you this. As far as them
hesitating way to make a decision on him, they've already
made decisions on him. They gave him a five year
extension two seasons ago. Now, you know, there's a lot
of clauses in the contract that in order to get
fully paid, he's got to play a certain amount of games,

keep a certain amount of weight. Some of those details
aren't necessarily available, but they do have those clauses, you know,
for what it's worth. You know, New Orleans weren't was
in town last week in LA I was talking to
people in an organization. They basically said, since he came
back from injury and had that one game suspension in

mid January for missing a team flight, they said, Aude
has been great work ethics great, has been a lot
more consistent on defense, very vocal with his leadership. They
praise how he's been a lot more disciplined, you know,
as far as his regiment with the training staff goes.

(25:17):
But you know, I think in fairness, you can take
it both ways. This is something that people with the
Pelicans have told me the last two years about him,
that these injuries it's more of a product of injuries
happen and any things that come up have to do
with just his body has made up the way his
body is made up. And while he's not a finishing,

(25:39):
finished product as far as dieting and how to master
your training, they've always said he's been coachable and he's
just shipping away at learning curves. So that's where they're at.
I think another thing is they try to bring in
Ingram before the trade deadline, they didn't trade Zion Williamson,
so I think at least in the short term, it's

their thinking that next season their core is Zion Williamson,
Tray Murphy the third and Jonte Murray, and that's what
they think will be enough to be a viable playoff team.
But as you alluded to, you got to be available,
and I think it's telling that, you know, when I

(26:22):
asked Willie Green, the Pelicans coach, about Zion's growth, he
essentially said it's come down to, you know, him buying
in and put in the work to be more available
than he was in previous year. So I think if
you read between the lines on that they're companion to
him now, but that's always subject to change.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Sure, I think that's fair. That's the only way you
really can look at it, because every time there's a
light that you know the tone was Zion, it just
turns out to be done their oncoming train. There's no
question about his talent. There's just a question is whether
God made a human body. They can carry two hundred
and eighty pounds on a basketball floor ninety four feet
on a hardwood six months out of the year, and
that remains to be seen.

Right, it's you've hit on the head. I think Willie
Green's quote that he said that it's his commitment to
making sure he does his part to be available. That's
either a rain endorsement or a red flag, depending on
the circumstances. So we'll wait and see.

All right, Well, let's get to the charade of I'm
calling it Lebron's latest petulance. I think there's a case
to be made for both sides. I get it. I
always think there's a method to Lebron's self serving madness.
It's been suggested he could have handed the situation more discreetly.

My wife brought up a good point. She said, you know,
she thinks he did it on purpose in front of
you know, the world and everybody there to try to,
you know, make Stephen A. Smith look bad, right, and
so in doing so in a public forum like that,
it had a different dynamic. But you were there that night,
I'm sure give me your perspective mark from an objective analysis.

Yeah, well, steven A he was saying courtside. So you know,
I'm just saying this from my own point of view.
It's not, you know, anything that Lebron or any people
in his camp are sharing. This is just my point
of view. He's there, so it may as well confront him.

I think how I read this analysis is that it's
one thing. Obviously, you understand Lebron is a parent, proud
that or he's gonna want to stick up for his son,
and you know, don't like when people criticize. But you know,
while it is, I don't think it's anyone's place to
say how anyone should parent. I think there is a
queer distinction about that and any personal criticism versus critiquing

Browny as we critique any NBA player. And so, you know,
I'll be honest with you. It's not like I've watched
every single segment that Steven A. Smith has said about
Brownie James, let alone anything. But I think the key
question here is what specific criticism did Stephen A say

that made him upset. That's the thrust of the matter,
And as far as I can tell, I don't think
that Stephen A ever made any personal attacks or question
how Lebron is as a parent or a father. And
so assuming that's the case, I think it's out of bounce.
I mean, the reality is Lebron James use at least

some influence to get his son drafted with the Lakers.
He tweeted a lot of support, and again you understand
that he's a proud dad, but he tweeted a lot
of support that thrust him in the limelight before he
entered the NBA, so much that he even suggested when
he was at USC that he was already better than
some NBA players. And so if you're going to hype

someone up like you got to be ready to face
the scrutiny. And I say this, you know, I think
fully supportive of Brownie, that he's had his head on straight.
He comes in with a great attitude, great work ethic.
People around the organization rave about how he's about the
right things. But the obvious criticism is his game and

that he's spending most of the time in the G
League for a reason. And so I just think it
reeks of wanting to have it both ways. You can't
hype someone up and then you know, get all offended
when some people don't believe the hype. So it's unfortunate,
but that's the times we're in. I think it's also unfortunate,

you know, when there's commentators in our field that tweet
out or right stuff just you know, praising Lebron for
sticking up his for his son, or the other extreme
of making personal attacks without appreciating the nuance. And what
I see with the nuance is that there was never
anything personal specifically with stephen A. Maybe with other people,

but not steven A. And that's not to say that
he's always right about everything, but in this case, I
didn't see any clips again where he made personal attacks
about Bronni same.

That's the operative word here. There were no personal ad
hominem attacks that steven A. Smith ever made. He is
basically echoing what we all see. Look if someone walks
in and interviews as a lifeguard and they looked apart
and answer all the right questions, you'd see yourself. Man,
this dude's a lifeguard. Eventually he's gonna have to jump
in the pool and save somebody. If you can't swim.

The whole world can see his kid is not an
NBA player. That those folks who call him and make
a wish kid, that's ridiculous, that's not that's how to bounce.
But Steve Smith, steven A. Smith, never did any of
that to the best of my knowledge. So for Lebron
to have cost him that way, it just came across
his highly sensitive, insecure, thin skin, self serving, petulant, all

of the above. If he'd call them offline whatever. To Stevenischmans,

So just another Lebron moment that I think Dence's legacy.
He's had many of them in his career, when he
talks about things he doesn't know what he's talking about,
or when he walks off the quote without shaking hands,
or you know, you all go back to your sucky
lives when they got eliminated in the playoffs of years ago. Look,

you brought up the most important point though he was
acting as a father in that moment. That's something people
can certainly relate to. I can relate to it, but
you don't go through life lead with your chin, especially
if you Lebron James, the self proclaimed king. You got
the last word.

there's also I think generally parents weighed the value of hey,
letting your son or daughter be their own person and

do I think it's appropriate to on what is the
right approach when it comes to parenting. But what I
will say is that it shouldn't be surprising again, when
you are a professional athlete, especially when Lebron hyped him
up before he even entered the draft. That's that's leaving

him open for you know, criticism, attention, praise, all the
above or a mix of both depending on how he plays,
and none of this should be surprising. I think everyone
knew what he was signed up for with US.
