Bernie starts off the show discussing LeBron James not showing up to the Luka Doncic Lakers presser. The midnight hour is next where callers discuss which QB of Caleb Williams, Aaron Rodgers, and Justin Fields will make the playoffs this year, the LeBron James situation and whether the Lakers 2020 title is legit, and whether there should their be a swing off to solve extra-inning games in baseball as opposed to extra innings? Callers make their points known. Bernie then goes into why betting on NFL Preseason teams is easier than betting on regular season games. Then Bernie discusses the MLB trade deadline and which teams were the biggest winners and losers. New editions of Brand New Fool and What's My Name follow. Bernie ends the show discussing micro-betting in baseball and how pitchers like Luis Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase are now being investigated for gambling. Speaker 1 (00:01):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We are
company in line with the Fox Sports Radio compound here
in Las Vegas. Take you up to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern and as usual we have an absolute
jam pack show. We'll try to fit it all into

(00:21):
four hours. But you know, sometimes it's about philosophy. Sometimes
it's about perspective. Two brothers are having a drink and
reflecting upon their day. One had a net worth of
ten million dollars but had a terrible day in the market,
lost a million dollars. His brother had a net worth

(00:41):
of fifty thousand dollars and had a good day in
the market, made about ten grand. And so the brother
with a nine million dollar down net worth went to
bed extremely upset. Got the brother with a sixty thousand
dollars net worth went to bed very happy. It's all

(01:01):
about perspective. There's a dude floating around, can't wait to
tell us he's golfing and on a boat with joker,
and he's working out as a clippers gym and he's so
cool and gonna make fifty two million dollars this year.
But he's pissed. Another guy not far away he left

(01:21):
sixty four million dollars on the table, but he's extremely happy,
grinning ear to ear. You know, by the way, there's
even a football player who is slated to make twenty
four million dollars this year, and if he played this
year and will drove off into the sunset, he'd make
forty one million in his career. But he's pissed, and

(01:41):
I get it. By today's market, he's woefully underpaid. I
say that in their quotes, but he's underpaid based on
production in comparison to his peers. Now we're gonna get
to all this, and in about fifteen minutes we'll have
Mark Medeena on. It's the damnest thing. It's like I'll
Pacino in god Father three. They pulled me back in.

(02:07):
You know, if you do have lebron fatigue. By now,
they were first in line for front of lobotomy. I'm
first in line because you can't not not talk about this,
which we'll get to it about fifteen minutes. But what's
up with Micah? All right? He officially requests the trade.
He turns up the heat and the cowboys and he

(02:29):
shares his request and the statement he posts to his
ex profile Twitter. I still call it twitter quote. Yes,
I wanted to be here, did everything I could to
show wanted to be a cowboy. Where the start of
my hummet? I want to play about p Paul. Okay,
we get it. I grew up cheering and hartt Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Unfortunately I no longer longer want to be here. That
is bovine scatology. You want to be there. You just

(02:51):
want to get forty million a year, and you probably do,
and you're probably gonna get it. We just went over
this last week, don't you know? What Jerry does is
every single By the way, you notice Parsons has not
left the team. He might not have been wearing his
eleven jersey this year. He made it clear all off
season it's important for him to be around his teammates.

(03:12):
He's acted in good faith with your organization throughout whatever
these negotiations or lack thereof have been. And apparently he hitched,
you know, he reached his threshold and gave his request
personally to Steven Jones. So is the bridge burned? Nah?
How long ago was it when Miles Garrett said get

(03:33):
me out of here. I want to go to a contender.
A couple of weeks later, he got a billion dollars.
Ah yeah, I'm happy to be here. Can't wait to
get there. Man, shake her heights, save a seat for me.
It was never about the money. Oh yeah, sure, It's
always about the money. And by the way, I want
to give Michael Parsons credit for one thing. He didn't

(03:54):
try to pull this stupid holdout power play that never
works doutar one to eight hundred Levon Bell. If you
are wondering how that works out, the truth of the
matter is NFL holdouts are typically ineffective. There are significant
fines when you miss days, fifty grand a day, and

(04:16):
usually you know you're not able to really trade the
player for multiple reasons. And think about it, Dallas trading
Michael Parsons would be worse than when, for instance, the
Raiders traded Khalil Mack years ago and got all those
draft picks. You know, we were told they'd be in
Sally cap Hell if they kept them, and sure they were,

(04:38):
and Gruden had the master plan. How's that worked out?
Since I get it, hindsight's always twenty twenty. But maybe
Dallas could get a couple first rounders in a second
rounder and a third rounder, and you know some momaha
steaks or whatever, they're not going to do that. It's
just not going to happen. It's not going to happen.
And by the way, I'm still going to predict that

(05:01):
he's going to get his contract. It'll be for a
lot of money and every they'll be smiles all around,
and you know, he helps give the Cowboys their best
chance to go seven to ten this year. And by
the way, you don't do yourself any favors because when
you hold out either, you know, you lose in a
crude season toward free agency. So it's a it's a

(05:22):
higher risk, low reward strategy. Show mey whar it's really worked.
Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, players are fined fifty thousand
dollars per day for misching training camp and that's a
penalty that cannot be waived. And in addition to the
daily fiance, players can be penalized the week's base salary
for each missed preseason games. But the other stuff, and

(05:45):
this is even more important. Players who are absent that
don't go to training camp or leave for five or
more consecutive days, lose an entire year of service time
before toward becoming a free agent. You think that it's
a good trade off. By the way, missing training camp
also typically leads to a player not being in top shape.

(06:09):
They lose out on practice reps. That typically results in
a performance drop that can last for a month or
more or can haunt you to the entire season. Look,
the NFL is a good deal if you don't like working,
there plenty of openings at the post Officers will always
work at the post office. But there are non fully

(06:31):
guaranteed contracts. The team's got the leverage typically and the
contract structure. Unlike other leagues, the majority, the vast, vast
vast majority of NFL contracts are not fully guaranteed, so
teams can cut players with non guaranteed portions of their deal,
which basically reduces the player's leverage. These are always team

(06:52):
at friendly agreements. Now the Cowboys happen to pick up
the player option for twenty four million this year for
Michael Parsons wants more. He sees what these other players
are getting and his production has been better. But the
NFL's franchise tech can also override a holdout, It effectively
locks a player into a one year pot salary deal

(07:13):
even if they don't play. So, and I said this
a minute ago, Teams often very reluctant to trade holdouts
because that can be viewed or perceived or interpreted as
rewarding negative behavior by giving a player an incentive for

(07:35):
them not fulfilling their contract, which makes these deals for
such players less than evitable. Now there's this new thing
called a hold in. Some players may out for a
hold in, which involves showing up the team facilities but
not participating in practice to still get paid, trying to
negotiate a better contract without missing games. Okay, I'm not

(07:55):
at the Cowboys practice, so I don't know if parses
his whole in. I'm totally he was there, but it
wasn't work against Jersey. But maybe he's working out, don't
I don't know. Okay. The reality of it is there's
been a lot of radio silence between Dallas and Jerry
Jones and Michael Parsons and his agent. We were told

(08:18):
that last March, Michael Parsons met with Jerry Jones to
talk about leadership, and then somehow the conversation morphed into
Jerry talking contract with Micah without the agent present. But Mike,
I think was respectful and engaged in it back and
forth as as far as what he wanted from his contract,

(08:40):
but he did not deem it to be a formal negotiation,
and he informed his boss, Jerry Jones, mister Jones, like
Indiana Jones, you call him doctor Jones. Afterward, my agent,
he said, afterward, my agent will reach out, thinking things
will get done. But when the agent reached out and spoke,
he was told the deal was already done. Settle just
a little bit, yes. And then of course the agent

(09:06):
said that wasn't the case, and he reached out to
Stephen Jones, and one thing led to another becomes he said,
she said, he said, he said, And it becomes the
post office game and the telephone game, or whatever you
want to call it. And all of a sudden, four
more months have gone by now and Michael Parsons, who's
been a solid player, one of the best pass rushers
in the NFL since twenty twenty one. He has fifty

(09:30):
three sacks and sixty three games. Not bad, and Jerry
Jones says, well, he missed six games in twenty twenty four.
I think he missed five, but he still had twelve
sacks and thirteen games. So the whole thing kind of
looks stupid. Jerry Jones working around the agent that causes
an issue. But again, remember Jerry Jones has a body

(09:53):
of work. Didn't we just go over this last week?
Don't we sort of know how this movie ends? You know,
we saw it with with We saw it with Emit
Smith back in nineteen ninety three, we saw with Ezekiel
Elliott in twenty nineteen, we saw it with Zach Martin.
Ceedee lamb. Come on, man, come on, Jerry just had

(10:14):
a little fun. No one seems to get his sense
of humor anymore. He's eighty two. He's gonna do things
his way. It's good to be the king Melbrooks. He
owns a team where ten billion dollars. Nobody's gonna tell
him what to do. And I think he just likes
holding onto his money. In the last second, I think
he likes being obstinate. And I don't know, you know,

(10:35):
he may have this weird sense of what ified Pam
Too soon he gets hurt in camp. I don't know.
I'm not gonna try to read Jerry Jones mind that's
a fool's Errand by the way, shortly after the show,
our podcast would be going up. If you missed any

but basically six months to the day that Luca was traded.
Can't make this stuff off, folks. You've heard to be
saying a thousand times sports or the greatest reality show,
and you can script everything but the ending. We don't

enough time to get to everything we want to get.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
Yeah, you blubber list lame in me.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich make
sure you check out over promised and also uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen I over Promised
with Cadino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
All right, back at the Bernie Frattle Show. Fox Sports
Radio come you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios
here in Las Vegas. Will take you up to three
in Pacific six am Eastern. And who knew?

Speaker 6 (13:17):
Who knew?

Speaker 1 (13:17):
On August second there would be plenty of news to
go around in the National Basketball Association. Three words, It's
that time. Mark Medina Medina Magic are Fox Sports Radio
NBA guru. You hear him every Saturday night here on
the Bernie Frattle Show. Well, Mark, I have to start

(13:39):
with the obvious, so I'm gonna come around the side door.
Luca actually left sixty four million dollars on the table
to explain with the folks why he did that. Actually
a fairly shrewd move.

Speaker 7 (13:52):
Well, I think the reason why you left that money
on the table for the short term. Is he's going
to get a lot more money in the long term
with getting that three year, one hundred and sixty five
million dollar extension, which is still a lot of money.
He's going to be eligible in twenty twenty eight for
a five year extension, so yeah, I mean, he's getting paid.

(14:13):
I think the other thing is there is a clear
message that he's committed to the Lakers for numerous reasons.
He wants to win a championship. Here, he appreciates how
much they've devoted to him as far as making him
the centerpiece of the team and constructing a roster around him,
as well as assuaging the frustrations that he had after

(14:34):
the Dallas Mavericks unceremoniously traded him after he thought that
he would be their franchise player. So not a surprising
move at all. We knew he would be extension eligible
August second. But you know, until you sign the Dottal line,
you never truly know well.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
And you add some additional text here in twenty eight,
twenty nine, that five year extension could make him an
eighty million dollars annual player. Yeah, which means you make
about a million dollars a game.

Speaker 7 (15:05):
Yeah, I mean that's assuming you play every game, so
you never know. But the one thing about Luca that
we've also seen is that he looks a lot better.
He looks thinner, he looks stronger. Clearly, you know, he's
done a lot of work to put himself in a
position of be in better shape, be a lot more durable.
And you know why, I think that's some of that

(15:27):
criticism coming from Dallas is a bit exaggerated because he
did lead them to the NBA Finals the year before.
Two things can also be true that he looked pudgy.
He could raise his game to another level with shutting
some of his excess pounds. And you know I said
this before Bernie, when when the playoffs ended and there

(15:49):
was concerns about what he's going to do, I thought,
you know what, he's just stretching the surface because these
are low hanging fruits that he could address in the offseason.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
So, you know, he's been all over the magazines, et cetera.
You know, he left town as Luka Dancik's come back
as Kurt Rambis. And so my question to you is,
does skinny body trade translate into the kind of tenacious
defense he's going to have to play.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (16:14):
Well, I mean I think when you're looking into his
regiment that involved improving his conditioning drills, work in the
way room died him better. He's gotten skinnier, but he's
also gotten stronger. So the pounds that he lost that
had to do with fat, he's still added muscle. So
I think that he's going to be fine. I don't
think anyone's asking him to bulk up to be an

(16:36):
Olympic bodybuilding competition. That's not what it's all about. It's
really about shutting the excess body weight and then getting
a little bit stronger. So yeah, I think he's perfectly
going to be fine. I think the thing that we
also have to keep in mind, beyond his great skill
set is even when he was supposedly out of shape,
he still had a pretty good workload, you know, logging

(16:59):
a lot of minutes. So you know, this is just
going to show that he again is going to take
his game to another level.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Well, and I probably should have clarified my statement better.
Scottie Pippen was skinny, Allen Iverson was skinny, The New
Bull was skinny. These are very good, above average NBA
defenders defense is desired. Can can Luca maintain that desire?
I get that he's stronger and skinnier and all that,
but I still think the jury's out for me on

(17:27):
his willingness to play great defense.

Speaker 8 (17:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (17:30):
I think that what we've seen here is there's a
motivation and an understanding that pressure's on him. Uh. You know,
he hasn't won a championship yet. The Lakers are all
about championships. If he wants to be appreciated, he's going
to have to win one, if not more. I don't
think he's going to make an all defensive team, but
I don't think the Lakers are expecting him to be

(17:52):
an all defensive type player. I think that they're really
just asking for him to try harder, you know, be
a part of team defense, you know, not take plays off.
I think when you're looking at this current roster, it's
it's really helpful that they got someone like Marcus Smart.
And I know there's questions about his durability because he's
struggled to stay healthy the last two seasons, but you know,

(18:14):
assuming there's no major things, he's one of the best
defenders in the NBA. Gave Vince another great defender. So again,
his calling card is going to be as a playmaker,
as a score but as long as he at least
tries on defense, that's really all they're asking for.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Talking with Mark Medina Medina Magic are Fox Sports Radio,
NBA grew you. Hear him every Saturday night on the
Bernie Freuder Show.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
So I can't.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I can't in this segment or without invoking the elephant
not in the room today. So for Lebron not to
show up, tell us why you think this is a
conscious decision, because you know he's on a boat with
the Joker, and he's working out in the clip jam,
and he's golfing, and you know he shares every detail,

(19:03):
but then he doesn't show up. Tell me what your
thoughts are. I know what mine are. I don't want
to hear what yous are.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
Yeah, I don't think it's going to disrupt team chemistry.
But it's lame. He could have easily shown up. You know,
not that players are obliged during the offseason, players take vacations.
It's not like he was the only one that wasn't there.
Same thing with Austin Reeves, but Lebron James knows what
his presence does. I think it's also telling that there's

(19:29):
a lot of other teammates that were there, DeAndre and
Marcus Smart really at Jamri gave Vincent, they all, you know,
gave Lukadocic's flowers here, So you know, I would understand
a little bit of you know what he's He's a
vacation in Europe. This is the time that players unwind
or recharge themselves mentally and physically. But he's back in

(19:52):
LA We've seen the photos of him practicing, ironically enough,
at the Clippers facility. Now does this really mean any
thing of the grand scheme of things? I don't think so.
I think that Lebron's going to be professional. He's going
to still, I think, play at a reasonably high level,
all Star caliber, and ironically enough, he is a player

(20:15):
that makes the right play on the court. So I
don't think that any reduced role is going to be
an issue for Lebron. But I think that you know,
what happened today, as well as what the Lakers have
done overall, it's the clear message that it's all about
the Luka docch era and Lebron doesn't have as much
influence within the locker room, within the front office dynamics,

(20:38):
and this is just a subtle, passive aggressive way for
Lebron to exert that. So it's unnecessary. He should do better,
but I don't think he'll carry over the next season.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
All right, Let's move along to one of the Lakers' rivals,
of the Golden State Warriors. They're apparently trying to retain
Jonathan Kamingo, but they don't want them bad enough to,
you know, give him a second year and waving no
trade clause. What's going to happen there with that deal?
Any think? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (21:09):
See, ultimate came a chicken here because I think the
Warriors have been very mindful that john Thank Kaminga hasn't
really gotten any offers, and they gave him a qualifying offer,
and Jonathan Kminga rejected that because we want to see
what other deals would be out there, and the Warriors
up until this point haven't had to make any decisions
on whether they have to match any offer sheet because

(21:32):
Kaminga hasn't gotten any offer sheet. And so where this
goes moving forward, It's clear that the Warriors have been
trying to entertain different sign and trade proposals, but the
Warriors are only going to sign and trade Johnathan Kaminga
under two conditions. One you know they're able to stay
below the second apron, and two they get a decent

(21:54):
deal in return that makes them better. And they haven't
gotten those kind of offers yet.

Speaker 9 (22:00):
And so.

Speaker 7 (22:02):
You know, if Jonathan Kaminga continues to want to see
what o their trade market there is for him, the
Warriors will still do their due diligence, but they're not
going to give him any additional money that they don't
have to because the market hasn't shown that there's a
lot of interest elsewhere. And I think that really captures

(22:24):
how the Warriors have felt about him all season, that
they like his potential, that they've seen flashes of how
great of a player he can be with a really
versatile skill set as a defender, great athleticism, but he
also makes a lot of bone headed decisions. His shooting
is inconsistent, same thing with his defensive rotations, and so

(22:47):
they didn't want to commit too much. And here we are.
I mean, I think if if the market showed that
Jonathan Kaminga is such a special player, the Warriors would
have let him go. But they didn't have to do
that because I think all twenty nine other teams have
the same concerns about caminga as the Warriors do.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Yeah, fair enough, all right, so I'll staying with the
same team. Drahamond Greed has been pretty vocal recently in
the last month about the fact that he I think
he believes that the Second Apron has really put a
kibosh on free agency. Do you think the data supports that?

(23:27):
Is he right the Second Apron having this sort of
stronghold on a lot of mid level deals that aren't
being tendered.

Speaker 7 (23:35):
Oh, I think he's one hundred percent right now. I
think in fairness, the Players Association agreed to this. Now,
sometimes when you're looking at labor deals, it's inevitable the
Players Association are in a position of weakness and the
owners because they can absorb more financial losses, not just
because they make more money than the players, but also,

(23:57):
you know, a player's shelf life is a lot shorter
than obviously an owner. So that caveat a side. Draymond
is one hundred percent right here, because unfortunately, with the
Second Aprin rules, not only is it prohibiting a team
to be able to have full access to a mid

(24:17):
level and be able to take back contracts and have
access to using their first round picks. They're not differentiating
the high spending teams that are trying to retain players
that they drafted that are now eligible for extensions versus
established superstars that they've gotten free agents. And I think

(24:38):
that's where the NBA went wrong. They say that the
spirit of this was to reduce, you know, the division
between big and small markets, and so that teams that
have a lot more money can't just spend their way
toward a championship. But at the same token, the NBA
is saying they want to reward teams that make great decisions,

(24:59):
know how to draft, well, know what it takes to
you have great player development, and also gives all teams
a strong ability to retain their own players. Well, they're
not able to do that with their homegrown talent because
of these second apron concerns. So I hope and expect

(25:19):
that the players union and ownership revisit this. But I
think the other thing we also have to keep in
mind is this is something that the owners may actually
want that they're using the second apron as a shield
for them to save money, where before if the NBA
owners did that, they could get criticism from the players

(25:40):
from the fan base that this is an owner that
is cheap. But if the NBA has rules in place,
let's say, if you spend this amount of money, all
of a sudden you don't have tools to build your roster,
that almost gives them an out and an excuse not
to spend money. So I know I'm speaking a little
bit both sides of my mouth here that I think
that it will get revisited and resolved. But you know,

(26:03):
owners never want to give back too much money that
they don't have to, so I don't think it'll be
immediately resolved, but I think eventually it will.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
Wrapping up with Mark Medina Medina Magic every Saturday night
here on the Bernie Frods or a Fox Sports Radio
NBA guru. So taking a page from the NFL, it
looks like Orlando and Memphis will play games in Berlin
and London, and I think they'll be games with Paris
even in the next couple of years. Thoughts about the
NBA's regular season games in Europe.

Speaker 7 (26:36):
Yeah, well, it's not the first time that's happened. I
know the Lakers about a decade ago went to Barcelona.
I think the tie in there is how Gasol is
from Spain. I think, you know this is it's very
fitting that the Magic are part of this because Bronz
Andva Wagner, you know, they're great international players with the
German national team, so it all ties together. We've seen

(26:57):
time and time again the NBA is a global brand
and they use the preseason as a way to continue
to finesse those business relationships overseas and promote their stars here.
So I think it's very fitting that they had the
Magic as a part of it.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
So we are getting ready to hit a little bit
of an NBA lull here and football is upon us.
But this is a popular segment. We want to keep it,
but we're going to share with the folks tonight. Mark
next week we go and do a new time, so
we'll do the same segment. Go ahead, I'll let you
break the news.

Speaker 7 (27:32):
Yeah, I think it's well. Correct me if I'm wrong, brand,
but I think every week now moving forward, it's going
to be at one am Pacific time, four am Eastern time,
so it's continue to tune in.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Yeah, same quality content, same breaking news, keeping their finger
on the pulls because what we find in this man's
NBA and maybe in the sports world, is there's the
story and then there's the backstory behind the story. And
I think you were pretty I think you maintain your
objectivity on Lebron. I feel like this is a movie preview.
This is just the first to many odd ball things

(28:04):
that he's done throughout his career, you know, leaving the
floor saying championships don't matter. It just never seems to end.
So you may be right, he may be professional, and
when the season starts, he has a great year and
the Lakers do some wonderful things, but it just feels
weird you to it.

Speaker 7 (28:21):
It feels weird. And we'll see if this is his
last year, if there's a farewell tour. If it's not
his last year, where does he go next season? Is
still with the Lakers, is elsewhere? And there's so many
captivating chapters to this. And let's not forget but Bronni James,
with that great Summer League performance, is he going to
be in the early running for most improved Player next season?

(28:41):
We'll have to break it all down.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Well, I didn't want to go to I didn't want
to go there. But there are actually questions that people
are asking as to whether Bronnie has a legitimate chance
to break into the rotation next year. I mean, I'll
give you the last word for a second time. You
know how I feel.

Speaker 7 (29:01):
Yeah, I mean he actually does. I'm saying that with
the straight face.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
Now.

Speaker 7 (29:04):
I don't think that he is going to be starting.
I don't think he's going to be a six man.
But I don't think he's going to be primarily in
the G League this season. I think that he is
going to be on the regular season roster. I don't
think he plays every single game, but he'll play certain
spot minutes as an eighth, ninth, tenth guy off the bench.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
What was he He appeared in seventeen games last year?
Is that what it was?

Speaker 7 (29:27):
That sounds about right?

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Sounds about right? All right? Mark, good stuff. We will
see you next Saturday night at Sunday morning, one am Pacific,
four am Eastern. And who knows what the news cycle
is going to bring between now and then. We see
that every week, but it never never ceases. Two amazes.
Thanks Mark, hi Verdi Smart Medina Medina Magic are Fox

(30:13):
to our Fox Sports Radio videos on YouTube. Coming up, well,
we're about twenty three minutes away from the midnight hour
from where I sit here in Las Vegas. It will
be twelve midnight literally perhaps where you live, same situation,
but figuratively, it's the midnight hour everywhere because it's a
metaphorical way for saying you got the last word. It's

(30:35):
the midnight hour eight seven seven nine nine six six
three sixty nine eight seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox.
We've got three topics to grab you, and typically at
least two of the three will inspire emotion. The callers
have been fantastic already, looking forward to hear them from it.
We're twenty two minutes away from that. I'm Bernie Frattle.
We're come to your line from the Las Vegas Fox

(30:57):
Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked listening to the Bernie
Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back in
the Bernie Friddle Show Fox Sports Radio. We are sixteen
minutes away from the midnight hour. And see from where
I sit, where I live here in Las Vegas, the
clock will strike midnight. Literally it'll be twelve midnight perhaps

(31:21):
where you're listening, same situation, but we have listeners and
callers from all around the world, and in that case
it means figuratively, it's the men that hour in which
you get the last word. And if you've got three
topics tonight the first one. I want to dive into
the NFL a little bit, because when the media decide

(31:43):
that they want to force feed a specific agenda, it's
like drinking through a fire hose. So there's three quarters,
it's already started. There are three quarterbacks get used to
hearing about on a daily basis, on an hourly basis,
Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields, and Caleb Williams okay, and all

(32:10):
of them are on new teams. Aaron Rodgers has joined
the Steelers, and it's polarizing depending on how you talk
to Caleb Williams has joined the Bears, and he had
checked that. Try that again. Caleb's not on on a
new team. They all have new situations. Field is on
a new team. Work with me, you know what I meant.
But he has Ben Johnson. Now, Ben Johnson's a hell

(32:32):
of a coach and a hell of a teacher. But
I think this has the potential to be ghasold in fire.
Caleb Williams has always been a playground quarterback, an improvisational
athletic guy who likes to make the glory play. No
one's going to confuse him. Was setting up in the

(32:53):
pocket and maneuvering and getting the ball out of his
hand in two seconds. He got sick sack sixty eight times.
Last year. He got hit more than a hockey ball bull.
A lot of it was his fault, a lot of
it wasn't well. Ben Johnson doesn't go for that. And
you know this, Caleb Williams style may have been able
at Oklahoma and then enabled at USC and certainly in
high school, but there are expectations in Chicago, so you're

(33:16):
gonna continue to hear about him. And then, of course
Justin Fields, everybody's favorite quarterback who went fourteen to thirty
and who's on his third team in three years. I
think Justin Fields is a stellar individual. I do. I
think He's a dignified man and a consummate professional. He's
not a major league quarterback. He's a world class athlete,
and I've give him my scouting report him on a

(33:37):
thousand times. We'll see what he can do. With Aaron
glennon in New York, their win total, I think a
six and a half without what you will. So you've
got Justin Fields, Aaron Rodgers and Caleb Williams. All of
those three, which would you put your bottom dollar on
to make the playoffs? One of them? Might? It ain't

(33:57):
gonna be Fields, and I don't think it's gonna be Caleb.
I think it could be Aaron Rodgers. I do. That's
just my opinion. But I don't want to lead the witness.
So let's hear from you. Eight seven, seven nine and
one Fox eight seven seven nine nine sixty six three
sixty nine. Which of those three quarterbacks, if you only
can pick one of the three, is most likely to
be in the postseason? Justin Fields with the Jets and

(34:21):
Aaron Glenn Aaron Rodgers with Pittsburgh and Mike Tomlin, or
Kayleb Williams with his new offensive coordinator Ben Johnson in Chicago.
All Right, the second topic again, they'd reared its head.
We've got a situation now where this gentleman just continues
to brand himself as the most inauthentic person in the

(34:43):
Western hemisphere. He can't wait to tell you he's on
a boat with Jokic, that he's working out at the
Clippers facility, that he's golfing, that he's this, he's that
he's important. Like I said, I've said, I believe he'll
be around three more years in my opinion, because he's
got the Bobby Knights syndrome, and that means that when

(35:04):
he ever does leave, he will realize that he's going
to miss the spotlight a lot more than the spotlight
misses him. I'm talking about Lebron. James doesn't show up today.
Mark was very dignified and professional about it. I'll do
my best to do the same. It's a bad look.
You think Magic would have done that, You think Kobe
would have done that, grand standard like that, You think

(35:27):
any of the Laker grants would have done that, of
which Lebron needs to be so. Look, it's against the
law of practice psychology without a license. We do it
all the time. But I want to hear from the
callers when you saw that Lebron was conspicuously absent today
for Luca's signing. Just what was your kneejic reaction? What

(35:49):
was your impression? Give me your thoughts, because this is
all going to contribute to his ultimate legacy. And it
didn't help the fact that a very respected, respected executive
the Philadelphia seventy six ers, Darryl Morey, reflected on the
Lakers COVID championship, which is now five years old, and
he was pretty brash about it. He basically went on

(36:11):
to say that you know that among NBA circles, he
doesn't think anybody believes that was a legitimate championship. But
let me tell you where I really weigh in on
this because I had a lot of fun with it
while I was on the air back back then is
my eighth year with the network, and that was here's
the deal. Because the Lakers had the same situation as

(36:35):
everybody else. I drew the comparison. They didn't deserve an
asterisk because it wasn't like the Roger Merris Babroue situation.
Baby Ruth had sixty home runs in nineteen twenty seven.
In one hundred and fifty four games. Roger Merris had
sixty one home runs in nineteen sixty one, but he
got one hundred and sixty two games to do it in,

(36:55):
so it doesn't diminish the achievement. But you put an
asterisk because it was different. Situation one had one hundred
and sixty two games one hundred and fifty four. Well,
the Lakers were in the same boat as everybody else.
They were stuck in the bubble, which is I always
called it the you know you can check in anytime,
you can check out anytime you can the Hotel California

(37:16):
playoffs where you can check out anytime you want, but
you could never leave. It was kind of weird. It
was surreal. It was one of the strangest things in
pro sports history. And I don't want to be told
how difficult it was there while you were living in
a five star hotel. There's were our way in on
the Lakers. I'm not going to give them an asterisk,
but I do not believe they would have won that

(37:37):
championship had it been a legitimate year where you actually
have to travel and play away games and get on
and off airplanes. And oh, by the way, they had
four months off to lick their wounds. And you can say, well,
everybody else said that too. Well, no, not all time
off is created equally. The Lakers still had plenty of
old bodies on that team, and bodies that were susceptible

(37:58):
or injury, and that rest help them tremendously. If you
don't think it didn't, why haven't they followed up with
anything like it since haven't even been back to the
NBA finals. So no asterisk, but I'll give them all.
I'll give them a hall pass on that. But I
do not believe they would have won the championship had
they had to travel and not had four months off.

(38:18):
But that's not my question. My question is, see, this
is all going to play in the Lebron's legacy. Lebron
is continuing to stack up his body at work with
passive aggressive events, and the passive aggressive event today was
simply not showing up. And then when they put a
microphone in his face in Las Vegas, I got nothing
to say. What do you mean You've always got something
to say even when no one's asking you talk about politics, movies,

(38:42):
world affairs, books, You didn't read everything no one asks you.
Then when they ask you. You don't want to talk
when they ask you excuse me? So look question number one,
you got justin fields, Aaron Rodgers, Caleb Williams. You know
their situations are unique and challenging, all of them. Which
of the three make the playoffs? If any? Would you bet? Secondly,

(39:04):
you saw what Lebron did today. He didn't show up.
You get to practice sanwchurs that college with a lot
of license. You see what happened? Why why did he
do that? What it was? Your reaction? And this other
one is a quick ye, I've been wanting to do
this for a few weeks. You know, they've been over
one hundred and twenty extra inning games played Major League Baseball.
This year they had an extra inning game in the

(39:26):
All Star Game, and they did this thing called the
swing off, which ended up being wildly popular. Now, if
we're gonna put a guy on second base at extra innings,
he knew all this other goofy stuff with robots, And
do you think maybe baseball should experiment with the swing
off in regular season extra inning games? Because you already
heard the lament about pitchers being burnt out, guys getting

(39:49):
sent up, picked up for the minor leagues and sent
back down and recav it all that kind of stuff.
So would you like to see that swing off? It's gimmicky,
kind of like to shootout in soccer, kind of like
the shootout in hockey. And I'm not advocating to do
it in the World Series or the playoffs, but what
do you think? Because it seemed to go over extremely
well among the fans and the players in the All

(40:10):
Star Game. So question one, you got Fields, you got
kleb you got Rogers, which one makes the playoffs? And
your money? Lebron didn't show today? Another body at work?
And is you know passive aggressive behavior? What did he
you know, what's your read on that? Why do you
do it? And should there be a swing off? Maybe
to solve extra inning games in Major League Baseball as

(40:31):
opposed to going extra extra innings eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine to six
six three six'. Nine callers have been. Fantastic start downing them.
Up we want to hear from you can't. Wait you're
listening to The Bernie Fraddle show On Fox Sports. Radio
it is the midnight. Hour that's, right you heard the,

(40:54):
Man The Bernie Frale show keeps rolling right. Along my
name Is Bernie fratterle would come to you line from
The Fox Sports radio studios here In Las. Vegas take
up to three a. M, pacific six a. M. Eastern
we are wrapping it up a little overtime on the
midnight hour portion of the show where the callers get
the weigh. In we're talking a little. Football who Will Justin,

(41:16):
Fields Aaron rodgers or Perhaps Caleb williams be one of
the three to make the playoffs if you had to pick.
One they're being force fed upon. Us lebron no Show.
Saturday all, right more passive aggressive? Behavior what's your psychological
read on? That and would like to see the swing
off in extra inning games like you saw in The

(41:37):
All Star, game four regular season? Games, Okay zach In New,
hampshire welcome. In how are you.

Speaker 10 (41:44):
Going?

Speaker 1 (41:44):
By thanks for hanging.

Speaker 8 (41:45):
On so when it comes to the, Quarterbacks i'm Taking.
Rogers i'm actually A Dick packers. Fan, ANYWAYS i think
he's got a little bit less in the. TANK i
just never bought him To Justin.

Speaker 6 (42:01):
Fields, yeah we'd.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
Agreement thoughts on the situation With lebron today if you
followed that he didn't show up To lucas press conference
for the.

Speaker 6 (42:11):
Signing it's the vintage Of.

Speaker 8 (42:14):
Lebron he's been doing this the entirety of his. CAREER i,
Mean i'm a Bigger jordan guy. Anyway, YEP i Thought
lebron like eight greats of all. Time so it's Not
i'm really not. High i'm the. GUY i respect some
of what he's, done but you, know he's just crying
out with their attention at this, Point like if you
want to age, gracefully be Like Kareem Abdul jabarrow was

(42:38):
at the end of his.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
Career OH i remember those. Days well he actually. So
lebron's turning forty. One jubarrow won a championship in forty.
ONE i got to THE nba finals at forty two as.
Well so basically your thought is he just this is
just part of the course and What lebron's always.

Speaker 6 (42:55):
Been fair, exactly all, right final?

Speaker 1 (43:01):
Thought Major League, baseball they hit a home, run there's
a ton in The All Star game with their swing,
off and so would you like to see something like
that in the regular.

Speaker 8 (43:11):
Season so here's an idea for. You it's, Like i've
always like extra inning BASEBALL i don't mind the swing
off out if they slipped a coin at the end
of the, game it's, like you, know one, side you
have to swing off the other, side extra innings all
up the chance and it's Like i'm, again there's.

Speaker 1 (43:31):
ANKLE i, Mean i'm.

Speaker 8 (43:33):
A gambler, too so it would definitely make things more. Interesting, huh.

Speaker 1 (43:39):
All? Right why? Not all? Right, hey good Call, zach
appreciate your. Thoughts, tonight ned In nebraska will wrap. Up
they've been that hour for, us take it, away Ned.

Speaker 10 (43:49):
Hey bernie who love the, Show, bud thank, You, hey
getting ready for. Bed but he brought up these three,
quarterbacks and these three quarterbacks have taken up to most
of my headspace the last five years BECAUSE i had
this fake Hoping Justice fields as a Diehard bears. FAN
i can't Stand, rogers that owning thing just to eternally
hate make me hate. Him And Kayla, Williams Kayleb. Williams

(44:12):
we didn't have a chance with Eber fluss as a
coach last. Year it was a Wasted brookie. Year we
Got Ben johnson Now eric b enemy. Days these coaches
are holding these players to beat to the. Fire they're
making everybody, accountable Unlike. EBERLOOS i mean we beaped up
the front, line so we actually had some trick and

(44:34):
protection Between Tony Dolman jackson and a couple left tackles
right tackles battling it. OUT i, Mean Darnielle wright's gonna take.
That but not to mention the weapons they put in
place for. Him he has no, excuses you.

Speaker 1 (44:47):
Know you know what's. INTERESTING i Heard i'm kno going
out these two people ON espn last. YEAR i, should
BUT i. Won't they claimed That Caleb williams was stepping
into the best situation for a first round quarterback to
they're out of their freaking. Mind uh and. So but
but you know, What, mike my concern with, HIM i
used the term loosely concerned BECAUSE i don't. CARE i

(45:09):
think he's a playground. Quarterback and listen to the quarterback
in THE nfl is a position you play with your.
Eyes you receive the, ball you make metal, snapshots and you.
Execute you don't run around willy nilly like you Know Benny.
Hill and that's frankly what. Calebs caleb's game. Is it
was enabled That oklahoma was enabled AT Usc he's going
to have to make a massive sea change and operate

(45:32):
from the. Pocket, Otherwise Ben johnson is not afraid to.
Yell And i'm really curious how this. Goes you're not.

Speaker 10 (45:39):
Wrong you're not wrong because they're throwing everything at. Him
now that that winning the offseason last year in the
best situation rookies ever stepped. Into that was the biggest,
joke hype machine hot Take i've ever Heard this year,
though with Getting Ben johnson and the rest of the
coaches sleeping with the, ENEMY i mean they got weapons for,

(46:01):
HIM Dj Rome coast And Loveland, comet all of. Misakes
and remember the Name Luther.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
Burdens now you are you A bears?

Speaker 10 (46:09):
Fan per se, Ned I'm i'm a die Hard bears.

Speaker 1 (46:13):
Fan, okay so you know, What i'm gonna just go
off script for just a half a second here because
you went on. Hold, look they had a kid a
few years back Named Mitch. Trubisky NOW i know he
wasn't gonna win A Super, bowl but he went twenty
five and thirteen as a, starter made the playoffs two
of the three. Years without the double, donkey you would
have won a playoff game through sixty four touchdowns had

(46:36):
thirty four, interceptions two completed sixty seven percent, passes and
that wasn't good. Enough and they bring In Justin, fields
who is a deer in the headlights when it comes
to reading the. Defense mm hm, OH i just had
to throw that in. There your.

Speaker 10 (46:50):
Thoughts, agreed, agreed, Agreed And Caleb holl's onto the ball too.
Much ben's gotta get him out of. That they they're
they're Unblocking Montes, sweat going at, him trying to figure
out what he can, do get him under, center running
that play ACTION rpo, offense and just he has no
excuses paint his. Nails i'll paint my. Nails let's jump

(47:14):
to fair.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
Enough let's jump To. Lebron ever so quickly you get
to practice amateur. Psychology he didn't show Up.

Speaker 10 (47:21):
Saturday lebron is all About lebron and has Always lebron.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
Can't say any better than. That all, right do you
like to swing? Off yes or?

Speaker 10 (47:29):
No, yes, SIR i? Do he.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
Looked that was an excellent, Call. NED i think this
is your first time checking. In don't be a. Stranger
we do this Every saturday, night Midnight pacific. Time And
i'd love to hear your thoughts, Again thanks a, Lot
ned for hanging. On thanks to all the, callers another great.
Night we had probably more disagreement tonight than any other
AND i love it all. Right, Listen brandon has joined my,

(47:53):
show And i'm learning that you are a die Hard laker.
FAN i don't want to put words in your, mouth
but you certainly. HAVE i have some emotion. Invested so
when you saw What lebron did, today what were your.

Speaker 11 (48:05):
THOUGHTS i was not, Shocked, BERNIE i was not. Shocked
i'm NOT i wouldn't say. THAT i think we all
know That lebron is full of. HIMSELF i don't even
think it's A i think people have been aware of
that for a long. TIME i think it's just becoming
more obvious to the general public because he's not the

(48:25):
face of the franchise anymore for the first time in his, career,
right so he doesn't like, that you. Know Jason martin
brought this up on the last on the show before,
this like he's like an ex girlfriend thrown to the
side now for The, lakers and The lakers are doing
the absolute right. Thing AND i would be shocked if
it wasn't close to ninety percent Of laker. Fans so

(48:45):
we can Disassociate lebron fans In laker fans because there's
Some lebron fans that go team to team with. Him,
RIGHT i would be shocked if not ninety percent Of
laker fans don't, want, like don't Want lebron on the.
Time LIKE i think ninety percent of them would. Say,
look If Mark walter was just the guy there and

(49:06):
he hired his OWN gm and didn't Have Genie buss
being the, Governor lebron would be off the team. Already
But genie is, around and that's another. Thing genie has
been great with. Stars stars like to play For genie
and that's the only Flowers i'll get her. There but
the issue with that is they pandered To lebron for
all these, years and thank, gosh they finally started to, Realize,

(49:27):
look we got a generational player In Luka doncic in
the middle of his. Prime let's build around. Him, SO i,
mean this doesn't shock me at all About.

Speaker 1 (49:35):
Lebron, right it doesn't shock me. Either you would hope
discretion is the better part of valor one. Time he
wants to be seen as an elder. STATESMAN i know
he doesn't want to go out this. Way this is
just lining up to be just an incredible circus act
for a very proud franchise and historic franchise WHEN i

(49:56):
had the privilege of interning it for four years during,
years and it's just it's a bad. Look and the
real question, remains And i'll Give Mark medina the benefit
of the, doubt but the real question remains when the
rubber hits the rule and the real bullets start to
fly In October, november Can lebron possibly avoid the lebronness

(50:20):
like when he's at the Summer. LEAGUE i ain't got
nothing to. Say you always have something to, say except,
when especially when no one's asking you or sitting behind
the bench and drinking wine or strolling. Around, dude just you,
know no one likes The you're never going to like
the way you lose in any. SPORT i covered teams

(50:42):
In michigan for, years and you, know whether it's a close,
game an extra inning, game a nail, bitter or a.
Blowout lebron's just not going to like the way this.
Ends you can already see the writing on the. Wall and,
today with another self inflicted wound in which he removes
a nickel from the bank account of good will and.
Relationships it's just there's no way you can anybody can

(51:04):
sell me that What lebron Did saturday by not showing
up was. Smart, again thanks to all the callers in
the midnight, hour AND i really appreciate the thoughtfulness and
patients on hold and the variance of. Opinions by the,
way for the best pregame show every, week and be

yep it's. Back you. Know you may not know, this
but it's actually much easier to bet preseason games than

(52:11):
it is regular season. Games AND i will bring receipts

we are about forty minutes away from the Dance sensation
sweep of the. Nation you know you love, it You
candley without what kind of brand new fool you followed

(53:00):
by what my? Name and an important correction from last. Week, well,
look betting on football is As american as apple pie On.
Toyota billions of dollars will be waged on THE, nfl
and every now and then it makes my teethhitch WHEN
i hear some self proclaimed knucklehead idiot come on and

(53:21):
say you're degenerates if you bet THE nfl. Preseason quite the.
Opposite by the, way if you don't believe, me the
sports books have limits pretty low limits on what you
can bet on AN nfl preseason game versus what you
can bet on a regular season. Game why is, That,
well you know, why his sports. Books and Then Las.
Vegas you know it also reguards me nuts when people, say,

(53:44):
Well vegas Predicts. Vegas vegas doesn't predict. Anything we are
not in the fortune telling business or the predictor of.
Business vegas is in the business of maximizing profit and minimizing.
Risks so they'll put a betting line out designed to
create equal action and the markets will decide from. There

(54:06):
the other, thing, too is that there's only one sport
in which one side and any Given, Saturday, Sunday, thursday
whatever the day of games Played, monday one side wants
to win and the other side doesn't care if they.
Win you will not see that any other professional sport
other THAN nfl preseason. Football and there's real good reasoning behind,

(54:31):
that all, right because every franchise has different thoughts and
intentions and game plans for what the preseason. Is and
let me also remind you that THE nfl preseason will
never go. AWAY i cover the lines for ten. Years
people think it. Will, no it. Won't there's a financial
component to the. Preseason, no owners aren't giving that. Up

(54:53):
the second thing is coaches like it and coordinators like.
It he gives them an opportunity for position battles to
be decided a little better in a real, game not
JUST i, know a lot gets done and controls, trimmages
but controls trimages are just that you might have, say,
okay let's run ten goal line plays in a. Row,

(55:14):
well that's not how the game works in real. Life
you got clock, running you got, pressure you got third,
downs you got fourth, quarters you got red, zones and
you have situations where in a real, game even though
preseason games don't, count they do. Matter and a team
might draft a player in the first round and he
has a pretty good rookie. Season they want to see

(55:35):
what kind of progress he's made from first year to
the second, year so he get a few. Reps same
with any draft choices or position. Battles BUT i. Digress
the Point i'm about to make is that it is
in fact easier to BET nfl preseason than it is
the regular, season because THE nfl preseason comes down to, information, information, information.

(55:56):
Information when the real games start After Labor, day information
is tight it's, controlled it's, protected it's guarded all, right odds,
makers when you make a, line it always begins with.
Math but any bit of information you can get, Helps
and in the preseason information is readily available if you

(56:21):
search for. It first of, all coaches have no problem
discussing playing, time and then you've got quarterback. Rotations you
know which starters might get three or four drives or a,
quarter and which starters aren't even gonna address when the
opponent maybe is resting everyone, else and you're gonna go
with your second string quarterback who maybe has had twenty

(56:43):
FIVE nfl, starts against a bunch of guys who might
be working At Nap Auto parts next. Week nothing wrong with.
That Good christian value is good, opportunity, Right but unlike
the regular, season information easily slips through the cracks many
times in the betting. Market sharp betters typically see this
valuable information many times before the bookmakers. Do odds makers

(57:05):
try to keep track of, it but they're not as
worried because the limits are, lower and if something is
missed before it better gets a good. Number come seek im.
Saw you know there might be a three thousand dollars
limit on a preseason game and million dollar limit on
a regular season. Game coaching absolutely. Matters, okay if you

(57:25):
don't know by, Now John harbaugh likes to win preseason.
Games matter of, fact he's WON i believe about eighty
percent of his preseason. Games and we've got a long
body of work, here and so year after year betters
have been Hammering. Baltimore but see now the sportsbooks have
gotten well that trend so, Frankly dependlum swung the other.

(57:48):
Way but the real question, is and maybe you Heard
Jared Allen's hall Of fame, speech he talks about the what?
Life what about the? Why why do various organizations and
coach and coaching staffs do what they. Do they have
different agendas depending on where you are in the stage
of development of the. Organization some coaches want to just get,

(58:11):
in get, out get some, reps nobody get. Hurt other
coaches they want to utilize their depth. Chart AS i
said a minute, ago maybe you've got two guys vying
for an outside linebacker. Position who's going to win the.
Job maybe rarely is it a quarterback situation where you,
know starters are typically decided before really they really. Are

(58:37):
and it's not about making the team because on a
fifty three man, roster believe, me fifty one or the
fifty three are pretty well decided just the way it.
Is But i'll give you an example in the same,
Division Mike, tomlin he's no stranger to play in his
starters for a half because he's trying to make a

(58:59):
business like tone of the. Season then a few years
Ago sean McVeagh didn't play any of his starters at
all and he won A Super. Bowl people are copying.
That so you have to understand why coaches do what they,
do and you know what their motivation. Is and if
you have, two you know teams on the, field and
one coach's motivation is to, win which is a lot of,

(59:21):
times particularly a first year coach or a first year
coach playing at, home and by the, way that might
be baked into The. Lions so you got to be
careful with that as, well, right because preseason lines can look.
Weird all of a, sudden you see The chiefs as
a four and a half point underdog to a bottom
feet er team and you maybe, say hey, man this
looks too good to be. True let's grab The. Chiefs

(59:43):
but Likely mahomes isn't, Playing Travis kelsey's not, playing and
After defense is not, playing and the betting market is
pricing information that you read, wrong and so you're better.
Off ALTHOUGH i don't recommend ever taking more than four
points in a preseason, games that's actually kind of a, lot.
Right you also have situations and this is all published

(01:00:03):
where you've got quarterback depth and quarterback depth, charts where
maybe you've got three or four guys on the roster
who've all HAD nfl, experience so that. Matters so if
you've got a guy in the second half of the
third or fourth quarter and, he's you, know playing the
back nine of his, career but he's had FORTY nfl

(01:00:24):
starts in his career and he's trying to milk it
for what it's, worth that guy's going to be more
valuable than some rookie trying to make a team where
he's going up against whose eyes are wide. Right you
might have a situation where the team's got Two french
roster guys fighting for a spot and those they're, athletes are,
competitors they're trying to make a team that is going

(01:00:45):
to be in a preseason game more dangerous than a
team who has a depth chart with a bunch of
guys that are. Solidified they're just getting the rust, off
so you try to find those small. Edges, Right Trey
lance the game of his life against The Lions. Yetherneight,
no The lions turned the ball over five, times which didn't. Help.
Right last year The cowboys Played Trey lance in there

(01:01:11):
in all three of their, games and he was one and.
Two they were basically shopping. Him he's game against The, chargers,
ironically it was. Terrible he threw a touchdown in five.
Interceptions he ended up with The, chargers but he threw
one hundred and thirteen pass attempts last, Year Trey lance

(01:01:32):
with The. Cowboys, right here's the guy who was once
drafted third overall and they traded three first round picks
to get, him and they ended up getting traded to
The cowboys for a fourth round. Pick but where AM
i going with? This, okay Where i'm going with this is.
Simple the only reason The cowboys did that last year

(01:01:53):
was not because they were trying to win the. Game
it was about a, valuation and the betting markets reacted
To Trey lance's status and there was an influxual, wagers
and actually people started to back The, cowboys and you,
know they win one and. Two but the point of
the matter is that was The cowboys motivation last year

(01:02:14):
to evaluate a quarterback and perhaps get him out there
in the market for potential trade. Value there's another thing
to look at in the, postseason and that is the
totals in the games are typically very. Low typically now
they can be adjusted from week one to week. Two
AND i don't ever recommend playing teasers in the, preseason

(01:02:39):
but even in a preseason, game if you tease a
total from thirty two down to twenty, six you know
it doesn't take a lot for professional football. Players even
though most of these guys aren't going to make the
team in the first couple three, weeks they have some
kind of body of. Work they played college, football and
they're not on AN nfl roster trying to make the
team for no. Reason so the truth of the matter

(01:03:01):
is you're betting, information you're not betting, teams and if
you treat it differently than you treat the regular, season
you're gonna find. Out SO i want to recap this
okay information unlike the regular, season where information is tightly
guarded and odds makers react. Quickly preseason information is really
readily available to the, masses and a lot of times

(01:03:23):
it's overlooked by the general, public and you're looking for
things like what's the intent of the coaching staff and playing.
Time coaches many times in the preseason will openly discuss
their plans for playing time and, rotations and that allows
sharpetters to gauge which players will be seeing significant time
on the. Field, again quarterback. Rotations when you look at

(01:03:45):
the usage and performance of backup quarterbacks or quarterbacks battling
for a roster, spot that's crucial because those guys can
significantly impact game outcomes and provide betting. Value and it's
easy to find the quarterback rotations and every you, know
how many times have you heard already this? Year Joe,
Flacco Kenny, pickett who's fifteen and, ten is the, starter

(01:04:08):
make fun of all you, Want Dylan gabriel and Shud Or.
Sanders you don't really know what you're gonna get With
gabriel Or, sanders but you know what you're gonna get
with the first. Two AND i would be surprised If
Joe flacco takes more than just a handful of snaps
the entire. Preseason then, again depth chart evaluation look at
how teams utilize their second and third string players to

(01:04:29):
evaluate their. Talent that provides information about how a team
might potentially. Perform new coaches always try to impress as,
well especially their first home, game and a team that
loses game, one you're gonna get a better effort typically
in game. Two, again if you don't believe that the
situation involving betting preseason is easier than the regular, season

(01:04:52):
then why does sports books have lower betting limits on preseason.
Games it's real. Simple that's telling you they feel more
vulnerable to sharp action due to the unpredictability and uncertainty
surrounding these. Games that's going to be based on. Information
who's gonna, play who's not gonna, play what's their, attitude
what's their? Goal some, coaches later, on as we get Into,
August i'll give you some of the statistics for coach

(01:05:14):
by coach and what their record is in the. Preseason
you'd be. Surprised some coaches just. Don't back in the
day When Peyton manning was playing for The, colts they
couldn't care less if they won a game The. Colts,
Meanwhile John, harball he likes to. Win he's not the only.
One we'll get to some of that in future. Weeks,
again early preseason lines that are typically based more on

(01:05:37):
general expectations than real concrete, information because you're putting players
on the field that don't have the body at work
like you have in THE, nfl which is based on, numbers,
yards yards per, play, points points, allowed, turnovers all those.
Things so the key to finding value IN nfl preseason
games is basically being, vigilant look for, information analyze the.

(01:05:58):
Information don't simply rely on overall team talent or regular you,
know season. Expectations if you think The lions are gonna
win less than eleven games this, YEAR i got knew
they're gonna be. Good they didn't look Good thursday. Night
it didn't. Matter but the coaching, strategies playing, time player,
evaluations watching for market, adjustments you can be a savvy.

(01:06:19):
Better you can uncover profitable opportunities that are overlooked by
the public if they're not paying. Attention, so end of.
Story the bottom line is it's much easier to BET
nfl preseason games than it is regular season games and guess,
what you got a full slate coming up next week

(01:06:40):
and for the next three. Weeks, well you, know we'll
talk a lot of baseball on the, show but we
certainly talk of when It's. Newsworthy all, right by the,
way after that long rain delay at The Speedway, classic
where they're gonna set a baseball a tennis, record it's
my understanding that they're gonna try this. Again both teams

(01:07:02):
were scheduled to Have sunday off, anyway so later on
today one Pm eastern time On, fox they're going to
play that game there In, Bristol. Tennessee, well we recently
had The Major League baseball trade line trade, deadline excuse,
me coming, pass and we learned some things and this

(01:07:23):
was a very interesting trade deadline and when there was
some head scratching. Moves but there were a handful of
takeaways that we'll share with. You coming. Up I'm Bernie.
Fraddle we're coming to your line From Las, Vegas Fox
Sports Radio. Studios keep it locked or listening to The
Bernie Fraddle show On Fox Sports. Radio all right back
on The Bernie Fraddle, Show Fox Sports. Radio nineteen minutes

(01:07:44):
away from The Dance sensation sweeping the. Nation what kind
of brand new fool you followed by what my? Name,
Well july thirty first is coming. Gone that means Another
Major League baseball trade deadline is in the, books and
there's lots of stories to go. Around BUT i found

(01:08:05):
some things interesting in that there were some teams THAT
i thought might be taking a different. PHILOSOPHY i can't
say they've made very much of a splash in the trade.
Deadline one of those believe it or nots Of Los Angeles.
Dodgers so they Add Alex callin outfielder in the right

(01:08:26):
handed pitcher named Brock. Stewart so that leads me to
believe The dodgers are basically standing and betting on what
they already have in, house and they're hoping to get.
Healthy and if they, do then they have plenty of
weaponry to make a legitimate run at. Repeating but those
questions aren't necessarily going to be answered so. Quickly right

(01:08:49):
The dodgers' bullpen's been an. Issue they did get an
arm Brock. Stewart he's only pitched thirty four innings this.
Year he does have a good arra and this is
usually a deadline where bullpen slashes are, made and they
were this year. Too starters, weren't but bullpen. Were The
dodgers seem kind of. Quiet they did have a you,

(01:09:11):
Know alex calls a good is a good left, fielder he'll,
fit he'll, UH i think if filler. ROLE i think
The dodgers had immanual place not taking taking his name
off the trade you, know. Trademarket and we'll get to
that a little later in the show because he's in
the news for not good. Reason but there's no question

(01:09:31):
The dodgers didn't push their chips in the, middle uh
when trying to get a guy like A Stephen kwan
who really been a good. Fit, Right so The dodgers the,
truth the truth of the matter is kind of a meh.
Uh trade deadline for. Them but if they get, healthy
no one will. Matter it shouldn't. Matter maybe they're hoping

(01:09:52):
it doesn't. Matter The Cincinnati reds have not really been
in the forefront of the news in a a race
in a, while. Right they actually had an opportunity to
be legitimate buyers at the trade, deadline and they got
a shot at, it you, know as part of THE
nl wildcard. Picture when you compare what The reds did

(01:10:16):
compared to what The podres, did The reds are frankly falling.
BEHIND i think they got a couple nice pieces like
Zachly Tel Kabrian, hayes who already hit a home run
as A red they do, have you, know he, look
they pick up a good defensive third. Baseman but you,

(01:10:37):
know barring something, unforeseen The reds may be looking at the,
outside on the outside looking, IN i, know being From
detroit and talking to my. People, yeah they had they
Had Charlie. Morton The tigers Did Chris. Paddock they bunch
of right handed pictures are four or. Five but this is.
Interesting The tigers slightly improved and they have a nice

(01:10:58):
cushion in their. Vision right when you have a chance
to be the favorite in The American league and the
best player you got was Maybe Charlie morton Or Chris,
paddock with all due, respect those guys aren't going to
move the. Needle in my, Opinion detroit has enough to
get into the playoffs and make noise in the playoffs this,
year but it doesn't feel like they've made themselves more

(01:11:22):
formidable for The october. Run all, Right it's not that
they got chop. Liver Kyle finnegan has been a good
closer on a second division team for the last three.
Years he's got one hundred and eight career. Saves he's
got eighty six in the last three. Years and we
all know, that you, know getting the final three outs
in A Major League baseball, game of the toughest three.

(01:11:44):
Outs so here's another guy who's comfortable pitching in the.
Ninth but you, know he's not the type of reliever you.
Fear Chris. Paddock you might add some depth to the. Rotation,
Uh Charlie morton is. Capable but it's, again it. Doesn't

(01:12:05):
it just. Doesn't it just doesn't move the needle for.
Me The Milwaukee brewers have been a pleasant surprise this.
Year they were good last, year just not good. Enough
they added several. Players you, know here's a trivia. Question
you may not have known. This The brewers actually had
the best record in baseball on deadline. Day but they

(01:12:26):
didn't act like they want to put their foot on the.
Gas you, know if they Have World series, aspirations they
didn't necessarily show that by the moves they made at
the trade. Deadline they were actually a little. Passive they
held on to some. Prospects uh and. Uh, look The
brewers Drafting Scott well and they have made noise in

(01:12:47):
THE L central every. Year but at some, point are
you not satisfied with just you, know being on top
of THE nl. Central? Uh and you want to you
want to get it. Done you, know farm systems are.
Okay this is not a team that has to worry
about the state of their farm. System if you look
at all the top, analysts they Believe milwaukee has the

(01:13:12):
best farm system in. Baseball The cubs same. Situation you.
Know maybe the old joke was maybe The brewers And
cubs had had a gentleman's, agreement let's let's not go
crazy at the. Deadline, otherwise The cubs that could have
used the frontline, starter they didn't go out and get.
One they didn't offer a, lot they didn't get a.

(01:13:35):
Lot so in, generalities when you look at the trade
deadline this, year one the biggest takeaway probably for, me
was that there wasn't much movement in starting. Pitching there
was a lot of, moves but now starting, pitching you
Had Sandy, alcantara who many believe would be the bell

(01:13:57):
of the ball of the trade deadline before His Jommy john,
performance you, know left a lot to be. Desired he
stayed put In, miami as Did Edward. Cabrera All Star Joe,
ryan WHO i thought looked Tremendous minnesota guy had read
it just about, everybody but not, Him AND i, mean
they're gonna need to wear name tags In minnesota for

(01:14:17):
a few. Days But Joe ryan didn't go. Anywhere dylan
C Sach, Gallon Mackenzie, Gore Lewis, Severino Mitch, keller all
those guys you thought might be on the way to
somewhere for a. Contender, no and The royals even Extended
Seth lugo instead of trading. Him, NOW i would, say

(01:14:40):
of those NAMES i just mentioned that weren't moved at
the trade, deadline many will probably be with new teams next. Year.
Okay by the, Way Shane bieber was the most accomplished
starter who was. Traded they traded him From cleveland To.
Toronto but he's not exactly, been you, know a. Workhorse

(01:15:01):
he's only thrown like twelve innings in last, year so
that's a question. Mark Merrill kelly was tremendous for The.
Diamondbacks remember in that crazy twenty twenty three, postseason and
that's the reason why The rangers wanted. Him But texas
is on the fringe of that third al wild card
spot at the. Moment and you, know, again not a

(01:15:24):
lot of. Movement so whereas there wasn't great excitement around starting,
pitching in terms of the trades, made there were a
lot of, relievers, okay but by the, way only three
top one hundred prospects PER mlb pipeline who moved at
this trade deadline were all involved in deals that involved. Relievers.

(01:15:45):
OKAY a number three prospect in All Major League baseball
went from The padres to The a's and The Mason miller.
Deal and this catcher At wardo tight he's the fifty six.
Player my wife AND i were in Clear. Water we
saw The Clearwater thrushers. PLAYED i love minor league baseball

(01:16:06):
play in Early. May he's an eighteen year old left
handed hitting catcher and he WAS i saw him. PLANNING
i think this guy's going to the big. Leagues he's.
Tremendous he was traded To, minnesota And Mick abel went
from The phillies to The twins as. Well in that
in The John duran. Deal so this is an industry

(01:16:28):
that likes prize, prospects and more so than ever. Before All,
right and SINCE Mlb pipeline began ranking prospects in twenty oh,
four there's only been one prospect ranked higher Than Leo
dereese to ever be, traded and that Was Joann maccatta
back in twenty. Sixteen so you, know in last year's,

(01:16:50):
postseason you look at, relievers they counted for fifty three
percent of all innings. Pitched so maybe that's why there
were so many relievers. MOVED i remember The dodgers even
last year had That Johnny holstaff game where they they
pitched all relievers AND i think they wanted they beat The.
Padres so this is a. Trend you probably won't see

(01:17:10):
change a. RELIEVER i, mean what's the old Joke Bob,
leman the Famous new York anankings, Manager the two most
important things in life close, friends in a good. Bullpen
you better have a good bullpen if you have designs
on going deep in the. Postseason how about The. Astros,
now there were more than forty eight trades consummated during
this deadline, period but the biggest stunner Was Carlos korea

(01:17:32):
going From minnesota back To. HOUSTON i guess we shouldn't
be surprised Because minnesota traded half their, team but, look
he was a prominent member of That astros First World
series championship. Team he left in free, agency but he
returns into mid season swap AND i think The astros
pulled the rabbit out of their hat on that, one

(01:17:54):
just like Justin verlander trade with The mets two years. Ago,
now The astros are also getting more than thirty million
dollar salary relief On korea's remaining. Deal but the twenty
twenty Three, astros of course ironically beat The twins in
The Divisional series Despite korea hitting four hundred with three

(01:18:15):
doubles in that. Series and Now, korea who's been a
good player In, october gets a chance to Play October
Arero October hero In houston once. Again so something to.
Watch it's gonna get very interesting. AGAIN i don't know
what the hell happened to The. Twins they collapsed completely
in the last month and a half of the twenty

(01:18:37):
twenty four, season and they picked up right where they left.
Off they're a below five hundred team this, season and interestingly,
enough The, twins who've always been competitive with a mid range,
payroll has one of the highest payrolls in franchise, history
and so that was the recipe for the. Selloff but
you talk about a sell, OFF i mean the final

(01:18:59):
day of the Trade, deadlin The twins traded ten players
from the twenty six man, roster Including Korea, Paddock Durant,
Griffin Jacks, Brock, stewart and a bunch of other, Guys
harris And vader Ty. Franz, look the truth of the
matter is The twins have only made one postseason appearance

(01:19:20):
in the last five, years and they're not advanced further
than a divisional SERIES i think in about twenty twenty five.
Years so it stops to me like they're starting from,
scratch AND i believe club ownership is plooring a. Sale
this is a transitional period for The, twins who've been
a very successful, franchise knowing no one can deny. That, Again,

(01:19:41):
finally The, dodgers they were, sellers kind of sort of
more than. Buyers they Sent dustin made of The Red
sox for a couple of. Prospects it surprised me a little,
bit but what DO i. Know The dodgers are hoping
to get. Healthy this is going to be a fun stretch.
Run there's really a lot of parody In Major League. Baseball.
Now you think there are great, teams but are there are?

(01:20:02):
There you can't put THE i mean the teams like
The Blue ja's have been a pleasant. Surprise but it
all matters In. October that's when it really. Matters we
haven't had a team repeat in twenty five. Years we'll
see if The dodgers can do. It hop, next what
kind of brand new fool? You what my? Name keep it?
Locked The Bernie Fratle, Show Fox Sports. Radio that's, right
you heard the. Man The Bernie Frawle show keeps rolling right.

(01:20:25):
Along my name Is Bernie. Fratterle would come to your
line from The Fox Sports radio studios here In Las.
Vegas take up to three a. M, pacific six a. M.
Eastern we are wrapping it up a little overtime on
the midnight hour portion of the show where the callers
get the wagh. In we're talking a little. Football who
will justin Fields Aaron rodgers or Perhaps Caleb williams be

(01:20:50):
one of the three to make the. Playoffs if you
had to pick, one they're being force fed upon. Us
lebron no Show, saturday all, right more passive agress. Behavior
what's your psychological read on? That and would like to
see the swing off in extra inning games like you
saw in The All Star game for regular season. Games,
Okay zach In New, hampshire welcome. In how are? You

(01:21:13):
thanks for hanging.

Speaker 8 (01:21:14):
On so when it comes to the, Quarterbacks i'm Taking.
Rogers i'm actually a Big packers. Fan, ANYWAYS i think
he's got a little bit less in the tank And
i've just never bought him To Justin.

Speaker 6 (01:21:30):
Fields, yeah we're in.

Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
Agreement thoughts on the situation With lebron today if you
followed that he didn't show up To lucas press conference
and the signing.

Speaker 8 (01:21:42):
As the vintage Of, Lebron he's been doing this the
entirety of his. CAREER i, Mean i'm a Bigger jordan. Guy, Anyways,
YEP i Bet lebron like eight greaders of all. Time
so it's Not i'm really not. High i'm the. GUY
i respect some of what he's, done but you, know
he's just crying out with their attention at this. Point,

(01:22:02):
like if you want to age, gracefully be Like Kareem
Abdual jabarrow at the end of his.

Speaker 6 (01:22:07):
Crew OH i.

Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
Remember those days, well he actually. So lebron's turning forty.
One jabbar won a championship in forty. ONE i got
to THE nba finals at forty two as. Well so
basically your thought is he just this is just part
of the course and What lebron's.

Speaker 6 (01:22:24):
Always been fair, Exactly all, right final?

Speaker 1 (01:22:29):
Thought Major League, baseball they hit a home, run there's
a pun in The All Star game with their swing,
off and so would you like to see something like
that in the regular.

Speaker 8 (01:22:40):
Season so here's an idea for. You it's, Like i've
always like extra inning. BASEBALL i don't mind the swing off.

Speaker 6 (01:22:48):
Out if they flipped.

Speaker 8 (01:22:48):
A coin at the end of the, game it's, like you,
know one side you had to swing, off the other,
side extra innings all up the, chance and it's, Like i'm,
again there's a there's a. WRINKLE i, Mean i'm a gambler.
There so it would definitely make things more.

Speaker 7 (01:23:05):
Interesting, huh all?

Speaker 1 (01:23:08):
Right why? Not all? Right, hey good Call, zach appreciate your. Thoughts,
tonight ned And nebraska will wrap. Up you've been that
hour for. Us take it.

Speaker 10 (01:23:16):
Away Ned Hey bernie who love the, Show, bud thank? You,
hey uh getting ready for. Bed but he brought up
these three. Quarterbacks and these three quarterbacks have taking up
to most of my headspace in the last five years
BECAUSE i had this fake hope And Justin fields as
a Diehard bears, FAN i can't Stand, rogers that owning
thing just to eternally hate make me hate. Him And Kayla,

(01:23:39):
williams Kayleb. Williams we didn't have a chance with Iber
flues as a coach last. Year it was a Wasted brookie.
Year we Got Ben johnson Now eric the. Enemy the
days these coaches are holding these players to feet to the,
fire making everybody, accountable Unlike, EBERLOES i, mean we beaped

(01:24:00):
up the front, line so he actually had some tricking
protection Between, Tooney, Dolman jackson and a couple left, tackles
right tackles battling it. OUT i, Mean Darnielle wright's gonna take.
That but not to mention the weapons they put in
place for. Him he has no. Excuses you.

Speaker 1 (01:24:16):
Know you know what's. INTERESTING i Heard i'm knocking out
these two people ON espn last. YEAR i, should BUT i.
Won't they claim That Caleb williams was stepping into the
best situation for a first round quarterback, too they're out
of their freaking. Mind uh and. So but but you know, What,
mike my concern with, HIM i used the term loosely
concerned BECAUSE i don't. CARE i think he's a playground.

(01:24:39):
Quarterback and listen to the quarterback in THE nfl is a.
Position you play with your. Eyes you receive the, ball
you make metal snap, shots and you. Execute you don't
run around willy nilly like you Know Benny. Hill and,
that's frankly What Caleb's caleb's game. Is it was enabled At,
oklahoma was enabled AT. Usc he's going to have to
make a massive cheap change and operate from the pocket.

(01:25:02):
Otherwise Ben johnson is not afraid to. Yell And i'm
really curious how this.

Speaker 10 (01:25:06):
Goes you're not, Wrong you're not, wrong because they're throwing
everything at.

Speaker 6 (01:25:11):
Him.

Speaker 10 (01:25:11):
Now that winning the offseason last year in the best
situation rookies ever stepped, into that was the biggest, joke
hype machine hot Take i've ever. Heard this, year, though
with Getting Ben johnson and the rest of the coaches
sleeping with the, ENEMY i, mean they got weapons for,
HIM Dj rome, coach The Loveland, comet all Of misa

(01:25:34):
teas and.

Speaker 1 (01:25:35):
Remember the Name Luther. Burden now you are you A bears?

Speaker 10 (01:25:38):
Fan per se, Ned i'm a die Hard bears.

Speaker 1 (01:25:42):
Fan, okay so you know, What i'm gonna just go
off script for just a half a second here because
you went on. Hold, look they had a kid a
few years back Named Mitch. Trubisky NOW i know he
wasn't gonna win A Super, bowl but he went twenty
five and thirteen as a, starter made the playoffs two
of the three. Years without the double, doink you would
have won a playoff. Game through sixty four, touchdowns had

(01:26:04):
thirty four, interceptions two, completed sixty seven percent was, passes
and that wasn't good. Enough and they bring In Justin,
fields who is a deer in the headlights when it
comes to read the. Defense, OH i just had to
throw that in. There your.

Speaker 10 (01:26:19):
Thoughts, agreed, agreed. Agreed And caleb holds onto the ball too.
Much ben's got to get him out of. That they
they're they're Unblocking Montes, sweat going at, him trying to
figure out what he can do get him under, center
running that play, ACTION, rpo, offense and just he has
no excuses paint his. Nails, Shit i'll paint my, nails it.

Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
Would let's jump to fair, enough let's jump To lebron
ever so. Quickly, uh you get to practice amateur. Psychology
he didn't show Up.

Speaker 10 (01:26:50):
Saturday lebron is all About lebron and has always Be.

Speaker 1 (01:26:54):
Lebron can't say any better than. That all? Right do
you like to swing? Off yes or?

Speaker 10 (01:26:58):
No, yes, SIR i do?

Speaker 1 (01:27:00):
It looked that was an excellent, Call. NED i think
this is your first time checking. In don't be a.
Stranger we do this Every saturday, night Midnight pacific, time
And i'd love to hear your thoughts. Again thanks a,
Lot ned for hanging. On thanks to all the. Callers
another great. Night we had probably more disagreement tonight than
any other AND i love it all. Right, Listen brandon

(01:27:21):
has joined my, show And i'm learning that you are
a die Hard laker. FAN i don't want to put
words in your, mouth but you certainly have some emotion.
Invested so when you saw What lebron did, today what
were your?

Speaker 11 (01:27:33):
THOUGHTS i was not, Shocked, BERNIE i was not. Shocked
i'm NOT i wouldn't say. THAT i think we all
know That lebron is full of. HIMSELF i don't even
think it's a. CALL i think people have been aware
of that for a long. TIME i think it's just
becoming more obvious to the general public because he's not
the face of the franchise anymore for the first time

(01:27:56):
in his, career, right so he doesn't like, that you,
Know Jason martin brought this up up on the last
and the show before, this like he's like an ex
girlfriend thrown to the side now for The, lakers and
The lakers are doing the absolute right. Thing AND i
would be shocked if it wasn't close to ninety percent
Of laker. Fans so we can Disassociate lebron fans In

(01:28:16):
laker fans because there's Some lebron fans that go team
to team with, him, RIGHT i would be shocked if
not ninety percent Of laker fans don't, want like don't
Want lebron on the, Team LIKE i think ninety percent.

Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
Of them would.

Speaker 11 (01:28:30):
Say, look If Mark walter was just the guy there
and he hired his OWN gm and didn't Have Genie
buss being the, Governor lebron would be off the team,
already But genie is, around and that's another. Thing genie
has been great with. Stars stars like to play For
genie and that's the only Flowers i'll get her. There
but the issue with that is they pandered To lebron

(01:28:52):
for all these, years and thank, gosh they finally started to, Realize,
look we got a generational player In Luka doncic in
the middle of his. Prime let's build around. Him, SO i,
mean this doesn't shock me at all About.

Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
Lebron, right it doesn't shock me. Either you would hope
discretion is the better part Of valor one. Time he
wants to be seen as an elder. STATESMAN i know
he doesn't want to go out this. Way this is
just lining up to be just an incredible circus act
for a very proud franchise and historic franchise WHEN i

(01:29:25):
had the privilege of interning it for four years During magic's.
Years and it's just it's a bad. Look and the
real question, remains And i'll Give Mark medina the benefit
of the, doubt but the real question. Remains when the
rubber hits the rule and the real bullets start to
fly In October, november Can lebron possibly avoid the lebronness

(01:29:49):
like when he's at The Summer. LEAGUE i got nothing to.
Say you always have something to, say except, when especially
when no one's asking you or sitting behind the bench
and drinking wine or strolling. Around, dude just you, know
no one likes The you're never gonna like the way
you lose in any. SPORT i covered teams In michigan for,

(01:30:11):
years and you, know whether it's a close, game an
extra inning, game a nail, bier or a. Blowout lebron's
just not going to like the way this. Ends you
can already see the writing on the. Wall and today
with another self inflicted wound in which he removes a
nickel from the bank account of goodwill and, Relationships it's
just there's no way you can anybody can sell me

(01:30:34):
that What lebron Did saturday by not showing up was. Smart,
again thanks to all the callers in the minn, hour
AND i really appreciate the thoughtfulness and patience on hold
and the and the variance of. Opinions by the, way
for the best pregame show every, week and be sure

(01:31:22):
The lions were one and a half point. Favorites the
total was thirty. Two the dog covered and it went. Over,
yep it's. Back you. Know you may not know, this
but it's actually much easier to bet preseason games than
it is regular season. Games AND i will bring receipts

(01:31:44):
and give you lots of evidence as to Why I'm Bernie.
Frattle we are comingy line from The Fox Sports radio
studios here In Las. Vegas keep it.

Speaker 1 (01:32:08):
Radio all right back at The Verdie Fattle, Show Fox
Sports radio come to you live from The La Vegas.
Studios we are about forty minutes away from the dance
sensation sweep in the. Nation you know you love, it
You candley without what kind of brand new fool you
followed by what my? Name and an important correction from last. Week, well,

(01:32:34):
look betting on football is As american as apple pie On.
Toyota billions of dollars will be waged on THE, nfl
and every now and then it makes my teeth hitch
WHEN i hear some self proclaimed knucklehead idiot come on
and say you're degenerates if you bet THE nfl. Preseason
quite the, opposite by the, way if you don't believe,

(01:32:55):
me the sports books have, limits pretty low limits on
what you can bet on AN nfl preseason game versus
what you can bet on a regular season. Game why is, That,
well you know why his sports. Books and Then Las.
Vegas you know it also reguards me nuts when people, say,
Well vegas Predicts. Vegas vegas doesn't predict. Anything we are

(01:33:17):
not in the fortune telling business or the predictor of.
Business vegas is in the business of maximizing profit and minimizing.
Risks so they'll put a betting line out designed to
create equal, action and the markets will decide from. There
the other, thing, too is that there's only one sport

(01:33:39):
in which one side and any Given, Saturday, Sunday, thursday
whatever the day of games Played, monday one side wants
to win and the other side doesn't care if they.
Win you will not see that at any other professional sport
other THAN nfl preseason. Football and there's real good reasoning behind,

(01:34:00):
that all, right because every franchise has different thoughts and
intentions and game plans for what the preseason. Is and
let me also remind you that THE nfl preseason will
never go. AWAY i cover the lines for ten. Years
people think it. Will, no it. Won't there's a financial
component to the. Preseason the owners aren't giving that. Up

(01:34:21):
the second thing is coaches like it and coordinators like.
It he gives them an opportunity for position battles to
be decided a little better in a real, game not
JUST i know a lot gets done and controls, trimmages
but controls trimages are just that you might have, say,
okay let's run ten goal line plays in a. Row,

(01:34:42):
well that's not how the game works in real. Life
you got clock, running you got, pressure you got third,
downs you got fourth, quarters you got red. Zones you
have situations where in a real, game even though preseason
games don't, count they do. Matter and a team might
draft to a player in the first round and he
has a pretty good rookie, season they want to see

(01:35:03):
what kind of progress he's made from first year to
the second, Year so we get a few. Reps same
with any draft choices or position. Battles BUT i. Digress
the Point i'm about to make is that it is
in fact easier to BET nfl preseason than it is
the regular, season because THE nfl preseason comes down to, information, information, information.

(01:35:25):
Information when the real game start After Labor, day information is,
tight it's, controlled it's, protected it's guarded all, right odds,
makers when you make a, line it always begins with.
Math but any bit of information you can get, Helps
and in the preseason information is readily available if you

(01:35:49):
search for. It first of, all coaches have no problem
discussing playing. Time and then you've got quarterback. Rotations you
know which starters might get three or four drives or a,
quarter and which starters aren't even gonna address when the
opponent maybe is resting everyone, else and you're gonna go
with your your second string quarterback who maybe has had

(01:36:11):
twenty FIVE nfl starts against a bunch of guys who
might be working At Napple Auto parts next. Week nothing
wrong with. That Good christian value is good, opportunity. Right
but unlike the regular, season information easily slips through the
cracks many times in the betting. Market sharp betters typically
see this valuable information many times before the bookmakers. Do

(01:36:33):
odds makers try to keep track of, it but they're
not as worried because the limits are, lower and if
something is missed before it better gets a good, number
come seek. Them saw you know there might be a
three thousand dollars limit on a preseason game and million
dollar limit on a regular season. Game coaching absolutely, Matters,
okay if you don't know by, Now John harbaugh likes

(01:36:57):
to win preseason. Games matter of, fact he's WON i
believe about eighty percent of his preseason. Games and we've
got a long body of work, here and so year
after year betters have been Hammering. Baltimore but see now
the sportsbooks have gotten, well that trend so frankly depending
on swung the other. Way but the real question is

(01:37:19):
and maybe you Heard Jared Allen's hall Of fame. Speech
he talks about the what, life what about the? Why
why do various organizations and coaches and coaching staffs do
what they. Do they have different agendas depending on where
you are and the stage of development of the. Organization
some coaches want to just get, in get, out get some,

(01:37:42):
reps nobody get. Hurt other coaches they want to utilize
their depth. Chart AS i said a minute, ago maybe
you've got two guys vying for an OUTSIDE linebackerp. Position
who's going to win the? Job maybe rarely is it
a quarterback situation where or you, know starters are typically

(01:38:02):
decided before really they really. Are and it's not about
making the team because on a fifty three man, roster believe,
me fifty one or the fifty three are pretty well
decided just the way it. Is But i'll give you
an example in the same, Division Mike, tomlin he's no
stranger to play in his starters for a half because

(01:38:25):
he's trying to make a business like tone for the.
Season then a few years, Ago sean McVeigh didn't play
any of his starters at all and they won A Super.
Bowl people are copying. That so you have to understand
why coaches do what they, do and you know what
their motivation. Is and if you have, two you know

(01:38:46):
teams on the, field and one coach's motivation is to,
win which is a lot of, times particularly a first
year coach or a first year coach playing at, home
and by the, way that might be baked into The.
Lions so you got to be careful with that as, well,
right because preseason can look. Weird all of a, sudden
you see The chiefs as a four and a half
point underdog to a bottom feet er team and you maybe,

(01:39:08):
say hey, man this looks too good to be. Two
let's grab The. Chiefs but Likely mahomes isn't, Playing Travis
kelsey's not, playing and half the defense is not, playing
and the betting market is pricing information that you read,
wrong and so you're better. Off ALTHOUGH i don't recommend
ever taking more than four points in a preseason, games
that's actually kind of a.

Speaker 6 (01:39:27):
Lot.

Speaker 1 (01:39:28):
Right you also have, situations and this is all published
where you've got quarterback depth and quarterback depth, charts where
maybe you've got three or four guys on the roster
who've all HAD nfl, experience so that. Matters so if
you've got a guy in the second half of the
third or fourth quarter and he's playing the back nine

(01:39:51):
of his, career but he's had FORTY nfl starts in
his career and he's trying to milk it for what it's,
worth that guy's going to be more valuable than some
rookie trying to make a tea when he's going up
against whose eyes are wide. Right you might have a
situation where the team's got two fringe roster guys fighting
for a, spot and those they're, athletes their. Competitors they're

(01:40:12):
trying to make a team that is going to be
in a preseason game more dangerous than a team who
has a depth chart with a bunch of guys that are.
Solidified they're just getting the rust. Off so you try
to find those small, edges. Right Trey lance had the
game of his life against The lions y other. Night,
no The lions turned the ball over five, times which didn't. Help.

(01:40:34):
Right last, year The cowboys Played Trey lance in there
in all three of their, games and he was one and.
Two they were basically shopping. Him he's game against The, chargers,
ironically it was. Terrible he threw a touchdown in five.
Interceptions he ended up with The, chargers but he threw

(01:40:56):
one hundred and thirteen pass attempts last, Year Trey lance
with The. Cowboys, right here's the guy was once drafted
third overall and they traded three first round picks to get,
him and they didn't getting traded to The cowboys for
a fourth round. Pick but where AM i going with? This,
okay Where i'm going with this is. Simple the only

(01:41:19):
reason The cowboys did that last year was not because
they were trying to win the. Game it was about a,
valuation and the betting markets reacted To Trey lance's status
and there was an influxual wagers and actually people started
to back The, cowboys and you, know they win one and.
Two but the point of the matter is that was

(01:41:40):
The cowboys motivation last year to evaluate a quarterback and
perhaps get him out there in the market for potential trade.
Value there's another thing to look at in the, postseason
and that is the totals in the games are typically very.
Low typically now they can be a jug from week
one to week. Two AND i don't ever recommend playing

(01:42:05):
teasers in the, preseason but even in a preseason, game
if you tease a total from thirty two down to twenty,
six you know it's Not it doesn't take a lot
for professional football. Players even though most of these guys
aren't going to make the team in the first couple three,
weeks they have some kind of body of work and
they played college football and they're not on AN nfl

(01:42:26):
roster trying to make the team for no. Reason so
the truth of the matter is you're betting, information you're
not betting, teams and if you treat it differently than
you treat the regular, season you're gonna find. Out SO
i want to recap this okay. Information unlike the regular,
season where information is tightly guarded and odds makers react,
quickly preseason information is really readily available to the, masses

(01:42:51):
and a lot of times it's overlooked by the general,
public and you're looking for things like what's the intent
of the coaching staff and playing. Time many times in
the preseason will openly discuss their plans for playing time in,
rotations and that allows sharpetters to gauge which players will
be seeing significant time on the. Field, again quarterback, rotations

(01:43:14):
when you look at the usage and performance of backup
quarterbacks or quarterbacks battling for a roster. Spot that's crucial
because those guys can significantly impact game outcomes and provide betting.
Value and it's easy to find the quarterback rotations and
every you, know how many times have you heard already this,
Year Joe, Flacco Kenny, pickett who's fifteen and ten is a,

(01:43:36):
starter make fun of all you, Want Dylan gabriel And
shoud Or. Sanders you don't really know what you're gonna
get With gabriel Or, sanders but you know what you're
gonna get with the first. Two AND i would be
surprised If Joe flacco takes more than just a handful
of snaps the entire. Preseason then, again depth chart evaluation
look at how teams utilize their second and third string

(01:43:56):
players to evaluate their. Talent that provide information about how
a team might potentially. Perform new coaches always tried to
impress as, well especially their first long, game and a
team that loses game, one you're gonna get a better
effort typically in game. Two, again if you don't believe
that the situation involving betting preseason is easier than the regular.

(01:44:20):
Season then why does sports books have lower betting limits
on preseason. Games it's real. Simple that's telling you they
feel more vulnerable to sharp action due to the unpredictability
and uncertainty surrounding these. Games that's going to be based on.
Information who's going to, play who's not going to, play
what's their, attitude what's their? Goal some. Coaches later, on
as we get Into, August i'll give you some of

(01:44:41):
the statistics for coach by coach and what their record
is in the. Preseason you'd be. Surprised some coaches just.
Don't back in the day When Peyton manning was playing
for The, colts they couldn't care less if they won
a game The. Colts, Meanwhile John, harball he likes to.
Win he's not the only. One we'll get to some
of that in. Future, again early preseason lines are typically

(01:45:05):
based more on general expectations than real concrete, information because
you're putting players on the field that don't have the
body at work like you have in THE, nfl which
is based on numbers yards yards per, play points points, allowed,
turnovers all those. Things so the key to finding value
IN nfl preseason games is basically being, vigilant look for,

(01:45:25):
information analyze the. Information don't simply rely on overall team
talent or regular season. Expectations if you think The lions
are going to win less than eleven games this, YEAR
i guy new they're going to be. Good they didn't
look Good thursday. Night it didn't. Matter but the coaching,
strategies playing, time player, evaluations watching for market, adjustments you

(01:45:47):
can be a savvy. Better you can uncover profitable opportunities
that are overlooked by the public if they're not paying.
Attention so end of. Story the bottom line is it's
much easier to BET nfl preseason games than it is
regular season. Games and guess, what you got a full
slate coming up next week and for the next three. Weeks,

(01:46:12):
well you, know we all took a lot of baseball
on the, show but we certainly talk of when It's.
Newsworthy all, right by the, way after that long rain
delay at The Speedway classic where they're gonna set a
baseball tennis, record it's my understanding that they're gonna try this.
Again that both teams were scheduled to Have sunday off,
Anyway so later on today one Pm eastern time On.

(01:46:35):
Fox they're going to play that game there in In, Bristol. Tennessee,
well we recently had The Major League baseball trade line
dead trade, deadline excuse, me coming, pass and we learned
some things and this was a very, interesting uh trade
deadline and where there was some head scratching, moves but

(01:46:59):
there were a hands full of takeaways that we'll share
with you coming. Up I'm Bernie, fraddle work comedy line
from The La Figas Fox Sports Radio. Studios keep it
locked or listening to The Bernie Frattle show On Fox Sports.
Radio all, right back on The Bernie Fratter, Show Fox Sports,
radio nineteen minutes away from the dance sensation sweeping the?
Nation what kind of brand new fool you followed by

(01:47:19):
what my? Name, Well july thirty first is coming. Gone
that means Another Major League baseball trade deadline is in the,
books and there's lots of stories to go. Around BUT
i found some things interesting in that there were some
teams THAT i thought might be taking a different. PHILOSOPHY

(01:47:44):
i can't say they made very much of a splash
in the trade. Deadline one of those believe it or
nots Of Los Angeles. Dodgers so the Ad alex callin
outfielder and a right handed picture named Brock. Stewart so
that leads me to believe The dodgers are basically standing
and betting on what they already have in, house and
they're hoping to get. Healthy and if they, do then

(01:48:06):
that's they have plenty of weaponry to make a legitimate
run at. Repeating but those questions aren't necessarily going to
be answered so, quickly right The dodgers' bullpen's been an.
Issue they did get an arm Brock, Stewart he's only
pitched thirty four innings this. Year he does have a

(01:48:26):
good ra and this is usually a deadline where bullpen
slashes are, made and they were this year. Too starters,
weren't but bullpen. Were The dodgers seem kind of. Quiet
they did have a you, Know alex calls a good
is a good left, fielder he'll, fit HE'LL i think
if philler. ROLE i think The dodgers had an immanual

(01:48:49):
place not taking taking his name off the, trade you, know.
Trademarket and we'll get to that a little later in the,
show because he's in the news for not good. Reason
but there's no question The dodgers didn't push their chips
in the middle when trying to get a guy like
A Stephen kwan who really been a good. Fit, Right
so The, dodgers the, truth the truth of the matter

(01:49:10):
is kind of a meh, uh trade deadline for. Them
but if they get, healthy no one will. Matter it shouldn't.
Matter maybe they're hoping it doesn't. Matter The Cincinnati reds
have not really been in the forefront of the news
in a pennet race in a, while. Right. Uh they

(01:49:32):
actually had an opportunity to be legitimate buyers at the trade. Deadline,
uh and they got a shot at, it you, know
as part of THE nl wildcard. Picture when you compare
what The reds did compared to what The podres, did
The reds are frankly falling. BEHIND i think they got
a couple nice pieces like Zachly, Telka Brian, hayes who

(01:49:55):
already hit a home run as A red they do,
have you, know he, look you pick up a good
defensive third. Baseman but you, know barring something, unforeseen The
reds may be looking at the outside on the outside
looking AT i, know being From detroit and talking to my. People,
yeah they Had Charlie. Morton The tigers Did Chris. Paddock

(01:50:19):
they bunch of right handed pitchers are four or. Five
but this is. Interesting The tigers slightly improved and they
have a nice cushion in their. Division right when you
have a chance to be the favorite in The American
league and the best player you got was Maybe Charlie
morton Or Chris, paddock with all due, respect those guys

(01:50:39):
aren't going to move the. Needle in my, Opinion detroit
has enough to get into the playoffs and make noise
in the playoffs this, year but it doesn't feel like
they've made themselves more formidable for The october. Run all,
right it's not that they got Chop. Liver Kyle finnegan

(01:51:00):
has been a good closer on a second division team
for the last three. Years he's got one hundred and
eight career. Saves he's got eighty six in the last three.
Years and we all know, that you, know getting the
final three outs in A Major League baseball game of
the toughest three. Outs so here's another guy who's comfortable
pitching in the. Ninth but you, know he's not the

(01:51:21):
type of reliever you Fear Chris. Paddock you might add
some depth to the. Rotation Charlie morton is. Capable but,
again it. Doesn't it just. Doesn't it just doesn't move
the needle for. Me The Milwaukee brewers have been a
pleasant surprise this. Year they were good last, year just

(01:51:42):
not good. Enough they added several. Players you, know here's
a trivia. Question you may not have known. This The
brewers actually had the best record in baseball on deadline.
Day but they didn't act like they want to put
their foot on the. Gas you, know if they Have
World series, aspirations they didn't necessarily show that by the

(01:52:02):
moves they made at the trade. Deadline they were actually
a little. Passive they held on to some. Prospects uh and.
Uh look The brewers Drafting Scott well and they have
made noise in the N L central every. Year but
at some, point are you not satisfied with, just you,
know being on top of the Nl. Central? Uh and

(01:52:26):
you want to you want to get it. Done you,
know farm systems are. Important, okay this is not a
team that has to worry about the state of their farm.
System if you look at all the top, analysts they
Believe milwaukee has the best farm system in. Baseball The
cubs same. Situation, uh you, know maybe the old joke

(01:52:50):
was maybe The brewers And cubs had a had a gentleman's.
Agreement let's let's not go crazy at the. Deadline, otherwise The,
cubs they could have used the frontline. Starter they didn't
go out and get. One they didn't offer a, lot
they didn't get a. Lot so in, generalities when you
look at the trade deadline this, year one of the biggest,

(01:53:11):
takeaway probably for, me was that there wasn't much movement
in starting. Pitching there was a lot of, moves but
now starting. Pitching you Had Sandy, alcantara who many believe
would be the bell of the ball of the trade
deadline before his Post Jommy john, performance you, know left

(01:53:31):
a lot to be. Desired he stayed put In, miami
as Did Edward, Cabrera All Star Joe, ryan WHO i
thought looked tremendous And minnesota got read it just about
everybody but not. Him AND i, mean they're gonna need
to wear name tags In minnesota for a few. Days
But Joe ryan didn't go. Anywhere Dylan, Ce Sat, Gallan Mackenzie,
Gore Lewis, Severino Mitch, keller all those guys you thought

(01:53:56):
might be on the way to somewhere for a. Contender no,
oh and The royals even Extended Seth lugo instead of trading. Him,
NOW i would, say of those NAMES i just mentioned
that weren't moved at the trade, deadline many will probably
be with new teams next. Year. Okay by the, Way

(01:54:19):
Shane bieber was the most accomplished starter who was. Traded
they traded him From cleveland To. Toronto but he's not
exactly been you, know a wark, Course he's only thrown
like twelve innings in the last, year so that's a question.
Mark Merrill kelly was tremendous for The, diamondbacks remember in

(01:54:39):
that crazy twenty twenty three, postseason and that's the reason
why The rangers wanted. Him But texas is on the
fringe of that third al wild card spot at the,
moment and you, know, again not a lot of. Movement
so whereas there wasn't great excitement around starting, pitching in
terms of the trades, made there were a lot of, relievers,

(01:55:02):
Okay but by the, way only three top one hundred
prospects PER mlb pipeline who moved at this trade deadline
were all involved in deals that involved. Relievers, okay a
number three prospect in All Major League baseball went from
The padres to The a's and The Mason miller. Deal

(01:55:22):
and this catcher At Wardo tight he's the fifty sixth.
Player my wife AND i were In. Clearwater we saw
The Clearwater thrushers. PLAY i love minor league baseball play
in Early. May he's an eighteen year old left handed
hitting catcher AND i saw him. PLAYING i think this

(01:55:44):
guy's going to the big. Leagues he's. Tremendous he was
traded To, minnesota And Mick abel went from The phillies
to The twins as well in that in The John duran.
Deal so this is an industry that likes prize prospects
more so than ever. Before All, right and SINCE Mlb

(01:56:04):
pipeline began ranking prospects in twenty oh, four there's only
been one prospect ranked higher Than Leo devreese to ever be,
traded and that Was joann maccatta back in twenty. Sixteen
so you, know in last year's, postseason you look at,
relievers they counted for fifty three percent of all innings.
Pitched so maybe that's why there were so many relievers.

(01:56:28):
MOVED i remember The dodgers you've been last year had
That Johnny holstaff game where they pitched all relievers AND
i think they wanted they beat The. Padres so this
is a. Trend you probably won't see change a. RELIEVER i,
mean what's the old Joke Bob, leman the Famous New
York nankings. Manager the two most important things in life close,
friends in a good. Bullpen you better have a good

(01:56:48):
bullpen if you have designs on going deep in the.
Postseason how about The? Astros, now there were more than
forty eight trades consummated during this deadline, period but the
big stunner Was Carlos korea going From minnesota back To.
HOUSTON i guess we shouldn't be surprised Because minnesota traded
half their, team but, look he was a prominent member

(01:57:10):
of That astros First World series championship. Team he left
in free, agency but he returns into mid season swap
AND i think The astros pulled the rabbit out of
their hat on that, one just like Justin verland or
trade with The mats two years. Ago now The astros
are also getting more than thirty million dollars in soar
relief On korea's remaining. Deal but the twenty twenty Three,

(01:57:34):
astros of course ironically beat The twins in the divisional
series Despite korea hitting four hundred with three doubles med.
Series and Now, korea who's been a good player In,
october gets a chance to Play October Ariro October hero
In houston once. Again so something to. Watch it's gonna

(01:57:55):
get very interesting. AGAIN i don't know what the hell
happened to The. Twins they collapsed completely in the last
month and a half of the twenty twenty four, season
and they picked up right where they left. Off they're
a below five hundred team this. Season and interestingly, enough The,
twins who've always been competitive with a mid range, payroll

(01:58:19):
has one of the highest payrolls in franchise. History and
so that was the recipe for the. Selloff but you
talk about a, SELLOFF i mean the final day of
the trade, deadline The twins traded ten players from the
twenty six man, roster Including, Korea, Paddock, Durant, Griffin Jacks Brock,
stewart and a bunch of other Guys harris And vader Ty.

(01:58:40):
France look the truth of the matter is The twins
have only made one postseason appearance in the last five,
years and they're not advanced further than a divisional SERIES
i think in about twenty twenty five. Years so it
stops to me like they're starting from, scratch AND i
believe club ownership is ploying and. Sale this is a

(01:59:01):
transitional period for The, twins who've been a very successful,
franchise knowing no one can can deny. That. Again, finally The,
dodgers they were, sellers kind of sort of more than.
Buyers they Sent Dustin made of The Red sox for
a couple of. Prospects it surprised me a little, bit
but what DO i. Know The dodgers are hoping to get.

(01:59:22):
Healthy this is going to be a fun stretch. Run
there's really a lot of parody In Major League. Baseball.
Now you think there are great, teams but are there are?
There you can't put THE i, mean the teams like
The Blue jays have been a pleasant, surprise but it
all matters In. October that's when it really. Matters we
haven't had a team repeat in twenty five. Years we'll
see if The dodgers can do. It op next what

(01:59:44):
kind of brand new fool? You what my? Name keep
it Locked The Bernie Frattles, Show Fox Sports. Radio, yeh
bet stretch you heard the Man Bernie Frattle show keeps
rolling right. Along my name Is Bernie fraddick or comedy
line from The Fox Sports radio compound here In Las.
Vegas take up to three Am, pacific six Am. Eastern

(02:00:06):
it's been a rock a. Show thanks again so much
to the men at our callers who really spice things
up with a great job they. Do but we've come
to that juncture in the. Show you know you love.
You you can't lay without, it you, see because our staff
here will you, know there's an old, Saying yogi bear a.
Coin you can observe a lot by. Watching that's exactly

(02:00:29):
what we. Do because across this great land of, ours
from seed to oily, seed even around the globe of the. Planet,
well people are. People humans engage in odd ball behaviors
every now and, then and sometimes they're just innocuous and
silly and they get you a little bit of. Trouble
other times they're far more. Serious you run and follow the,
law and many times they will land you in. Jail but,

(02:00:52):
anyway you slice it any, way you describe, it any
way you characterize. It these behaviors always leave us shaking
our head and asking, ourselves what kind of brand new
fool are? You?

Speaker 4 (02:01:12):
So what kind of brand new fool are?

Speaker 1 (02:01:14):
You, yeah this one's a little, goofy you, know by the,
way sometimes you have to. CHOOSE i, mean you got
knuckleheads throwing sex toys in THE wnba. Court you got
another knucklehead stole a golf cart this week In buffalo
and drove it into an airport. Unreel you had one
one guy not even showing up for a press conference
where his player teammate was out for. You i'm not

(02:01:37):
going down the road this. One, Well i'm actually gonna
take it To, florida which is a popular popular destination
here for what kind of brand new fool are? You
and this involves a gentleman From missouri who recently decided
he would partake in spring, break a fifty two year old,
gentleman Mister edwards From. Missouri, okay that off the bat

(02:02:01):
should sound a little. Cringey when all of a, sudden
a couple was sitting inside a restaurant and they looked
outside and they see this man standing in their car
on the other, side apparently making some kind of motions
near the driver's. Door and so they frankly started to

(02:02:22):
get very suspicious and they called the, police and so
they went, outside and as they went around the corner
to look at the, car they discovered the side of
their car was scratched up and the paint was, damaged
and next to the car was a butter knife and
the car had over a thousand dollars worth of. Damage,

(02:02:47):
well Mister edwards did not wait. Around he took off
high tailed. It but a review of the security camera
footage yielded a clear image of this particular. Suspect and
what's interesting is he had just finished eating at a
diner where he was on the wait list and put

(02:03:09):
his phone number. Down so the police called the phone
number and they meet up with Mister, edwards WHO i
guess rolled over you know elect The Detroit lions used
to WHEN i was covering, him and they he admitted
to the quote unquote crime post miranda and termed the
offense a spring break. Mistake, well the cops didn't think

(02:03:34):
it was so. Funny he was arrested on a felony
criminal mischief charge was released From Connie jail after his
wife posted a two thousand dollars. Bond, now this general
is apparently is A missouri resident and a licensed real
estate salesperson who has a good. Job but yet he
decides to travel To, florida pull a butter knife out

(02:03:56):
and for no particular reason start scratch up the side
of a car and causing one thousand dollars worth of.
Damage and he made himself very easy to find by the. Police,
so Mister edwards Of missouri vacationing In florida during spring
break and doing nefarious things with the butter knifeter somebody's,
Car what kind of brand new fool of? You all,

(02:04:20):
Right Brandon, Europe.

Speaker 4 (02:04:22):
All, Right, bernie we're gonna go To.

Speaker 11 (02:04:23):
Texas i'ma switch it up this.

Speaker 4 (02:04:25):
Week No.

Speaker 11 (02:04:26):
Florida we're gonna keep in THE us, Though we're gonna
go To. Texas where a suspect boasted On facebook that
being wanted is the quote adult version Of hide And,
seek then was arrested a week. Later sorry What Fritz
eugene case was arrested a week after making a joke
On facebook that having A warren for his arrest was

(02:04:47):
like adult hide And. Seek and by the, way he
also was serving in narcotics, well they were serving in
narcotics search warrn for. Him already discovered that some of
the people at the scene had outstanding following warrants unrelated
to the drug. Case this is just some background on.
Him one of the, suspects identified as fifty four year

(02:05:08):
Old Fritz Fritz eugene, Case sorry is a really confusing,
name shared A facebook post a week earlier that read
having warrants is basically the adult version Of hide And.
Seek authorities In, mart a small city about eighteen miles
east Of, Waco, texas didn't hold back on their jokes
at case is expense. Quote The Mart Police department would

(02:05:30):
like to Recognize Officer crawford as a professional player of
adult hide And, seek the department joked in the statement
online Officer crawford was able to take the suspect and
custody within a week of The facebook post challenging law.
Enforcement after signing off of the, Post james added the
chief would welcome any further challenges in the game of
quote hide and. Seek SO i have to ask, You

(02:05:54):
Fritz Eugene, case what kind of brand new, fool are?

Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
You? WOW i gotta Say Francisine. Case, now with all
due respect to Mister, case don't mean you get on his,
case BUT i will say. THIS i always get a
kick out of these individuals when they have three. Names it's,
like you, Know John, Wilkes, Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald assassins
have three. Names so then every now and then we'll

(02:06:18):
get a three named person to break into to the
brand new fool. Segment all, right, good good story, there
good one that will now conclude another rousing addition of
what kind of brand new fool, you which now enables
us to segue into our second favorite bit that we
lovingly refer to as what my? Name all, right, well

(02:06:43):
if this one sounds, familiar it probably will BECAUSE i
KNEW i wasn't losing my mind last, week but something
was just a little off and it's my. Fault so
let's start, there because this TIME i will phrase the question,
properly Which brandon corrected me. On and we've even got
a little bit more. PostScript so since twenty, nineteen AMONG

(02:07:09):
nfl active coaches that haven't won A Super, Bowl i've
won more games than. Anybody, brandon what my? Name here's a.
Clue he's in THE Nfc.

Speaker 11 (02:07:21):
North so this one is actually is Actually Matt. Lafour.

Speaker 1 (02:07:25):
Correct you're, right and you. Corrected so last WEEK i
couldn't read my own damn. WRITING i neglected to include
since twenty. NINETEEN i merely said among ACTIVE nfl, Coaches
i've won more who haven't won The Super? Bowl i've
won more games than, Anybody and you correctly pointed, out,
no it couldn't Be Matt. Laflour you know for a

(02:07:46):
fact That Kyle shanahan had won, more and he had
he won three. More then we had a listener point
out that it's actually it was Actually sean, McDermott WHO
i believes won north of eighty games Were buffalo never
won A Super. Bowl so that's WHAT i get for
screwing that up last. Week but now it's on the.
Record it's correct BECAUSE i meant to say since twenty,
nineteen And i'm glad you pointed that out For. Brandon

(02:08:09):
so we're one and one for, One. OKAY i am
the Only japanese Born Major League baseball player to be
in The hall Of. Fame Mark, ramsey what my name.

Speaker 3 (02:08:26):
Is?

Speaker 4 (02:08:26):
IT A seattle?

Speaker 8 (02:08:27):
Guy.

Speaker 1 (02:08:27):
Name you got. It you got, it, MAN i knew
you get. IT i knew you get. It and he
was one of my favorite all time players actually to.
Watch All, right this one is a doozy BECAUSE i
just just learned. THIS i am the Only Major league
baseball pitcher in history to lead both The National league

(02:08:49):
and The American league in shutouts in the same. Season
now it was only three on each. Side didn't take you,
KNOW i have a complete. Game shout? Out know what
it has those? Anymore? Brandon what my? Name here's a.
CLUE i really made my bones as A New York
yankee left handed.

Speaker 4 (02:09:10):
Pitcher oh the left he gave it.

Speaker 11 (02:09:12):
Away so this, player it was in the midst Of
Cy Young's Cleveland indians they were called at the. TIME
i believe this IS. C. C.

Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
Sabathia Outstanding Ce, sabathian of, course both him AND Itchu.
Itchro don't know if you guys had a chance to See
Itchro's hall Of fame speech last. Week it was just epically.
Classic it was hilarious. Stuff he is. Phenomenal, okay, well
THE nfl is upon, us so let's have AN nfl.
QUESTION i am the only running back in The National

(02:09:45):
Football league to rush for one thousand yards in each
of the last four. Seasons Mark, ramsey what my? Name
and here's a. Clue we've talked about team a lot.
Tonight they're in THE.

Speaker 4 (02:10:02):
AFC i was Thinking Derrick.

Speaker 1 (02:10:06):
Henry, uh that's an excellent. Guess actually it's Not Derrick,
henry same division though As Derrick, henry same. Division i'm
the ONLY nfl running back to rush for one thousand
yards in each of the last four. Seasons, brandon what my? Name?

Speaker 11 (02:10:24):
WHO i don't think he's on The steelers? Anymore would
it Be Naji harris since he's been.

Speaker 1 (02:10:30):
Held Na harris? Outstanding but he did it with? That, yeah, yeah,
yeah he has a Good mark had a good guest.
Too so you guys are five four for, four all.
Right i'm the only rookie quarterback from last year to
throw more passing yards Than Jayde. Daniels, brandon what my.
Name here's a. CLUE i play in THE. Afc west Bon.

(02:10:53):
Nicks Bon nicks is the man moving right. ALONG i
am the first receiver IN nfl history to catch you
a hundred passes in back to back. Seasons Mark, ramsey
what my? Name here's a clue was done back in the.
Nineties done back in the.

Speaker 10 (02:11:14):
Nineties well in the.

Speaker 11 (02:11:17):
Nineties i'm only thinking About Willie, galt but it's probably.

Speaker 1 (02:11:21):
Wrong same, division take one more, guests not The, bears
same division.

Speaker 11 (02:11:26):
Though did he just get into the.

Speaker 1 (02:11:29):
The just got into The hall Of?

Speaker 3 (02:11:30):
Fame sharp is, yes, well the not the one, shop
but the Other Sharp.

Speaker 1 (02:11:37):
Sterling judges will allow. It Sterling sharp part of the brother,
Teams shannon And Sterling, sharp the only brother team in
The National Football League hall Of. Fame All, right it's
one of you guys might get a kick out. Of
in the history of The National Football, League i've thrown
more pick sixes than any quarterback in. History brandon what my?

Speaker 4 (02:12:04):
Name, OKAY i narrowed this.

Speaker 11 (02:12:07):
DOWN i think just off the top of my, head
and like players that have thrown a, lot that have
played a lot of. Years AND i don't think It's
Aaron rodgers because he doesn't turn the ball over. Much
So i'm gonna take another quarterback that played for The,
packers And i'm gonna Say Brett farr since he played.

Speaker 1 (02:12:23):
Forever good guess it's Not Brett. Farr but here's a.
Clue here's a. Clue he's still active in the. Game,
Oh Matt. Stafford it, is in Fact Matt. Stafford got?
It Matt? Stafford all. Right something tells me you guys

(02:12:43):
are gonna get this one pretty, easy because it's only
been mentioned about seventy eight million times this. Week i'm
the only player in the history Of pro football to
make it to The hall Of fame without ever having
played a single down college. Football Mark ramsey with my.
Name here's a. Clue made my bones with The. Chargers The. Chargers,

(02:13:09):
uh not playing basketball At Kent, state hailed from the
city Of, detroit not playing it, down never never played college,
football never played college.

Speaker 4 (02:13:21):
Football i'm gonna.

Speaker 1 (02:13:24):
Lost that's, okay that's. Okay i'm the only player in
the history of pro football they made it to The
hall Of fame without having played one day in, college
with not one snap in. College brandon what my? Name?

Speaker 11 (02:13:39):
Yeah so the questions you're asking ABOUT nfl are all
About hall Of famers pretty. Much So i'm gonna assume
it's from the twenty twenty five. Class you mentioned chargers'n
narrow down To Antonio.

Speaker 1 (02:13:48):
Gates it, is in Fact Antonio gates AND i remember
when The chargers brought him into. Camp they've tried this. Before,
look you, Know Tony gonzalez was a great college basketball,
player a Cal you, guys you guys know, that and
you know these there are these. Audities you. KNOW i
Covered Ben wallace In. Detroit Ben wallace is the only
player in The Basketball hall Of fame to have not been.

(02:14:11):
Drafted so these things. Happen they get out, there all.
Right good job guys on both. Counts. Uh that concludes
another rousing edition of Brand New fool and what my
name excuse. Me we'll be back to do it again next,
week but not before we bring you the tire rack

(02:14:36):
play of the. Day let's give it a. Listen want
two pitch swinging a drive in the air the left,
center That's teepe and hits sailing and it's on my
way and it has.

Speaker 9 (02:14:46):
Gone for a hudred number, two one hundred and Fifty Parpedo.

Speaker 4 (02:14:51):
Alonso he hits it way over The Great wall Of.

Speaker 1 (02:14:54):
Flushing they are the three seventy mark he gives.

Speaker 4 (02:14:57):
Them that's a three to nothing lead hair and a.

(02:16:08):
made about the fact that The Detroit lions lost both,
Coordinators Aaron, glenn their defensive coordinator to The jets And Ben,
johnson their offensive coordinator to THE Uh Chicago. Bears what
does that mean for The lions coming up this? Year
we have some precedent not. Much but if you're going

(02:16:30):
by the, numbers this doesn't happen very, often but it's not.
Unprecedented we'll share with you what they might be looking
forward to based on the most recent team that also happened.

Speaker 1 (02:17:07):
All right back at The Bernie Fattle, Show Fox Sports.
Radio coming to live from The Las AGAs Fox Sports Radio.
Studios you, know when AN nfl team loses two established
coordinators in the same season because both left FOR nfl
head coaching, jobs that's not. Easy But Dan campbell Head Coaching,

(02:17:32):
alliance isn't stressing out about its matter of, fact he's
on records and we'll be. Fine we'll be. Fine everybody
knows HOW i feel about the coaches that have been.
Here happy for, them they're moving. On you wish them the.
Best But John morton who's stepping in as the offensive
coordinator to Replace Ben, johnson is someone That Dan campbell,
knows somebody. Trusts he's been. Around he was, Here he's

(02:17:55):
been there since twenty two when The lions started to
rebuild and become more. Formidable then on the defensive, side
taking over For Aaron Glenn, Kelvin shephard takes, over and
he's been, around and he Basically Dan campbell basically, said,
look it's not like starting from scratch with SOMEBODY i don't,
know so, QUOTE i see this thing moving pretty. Quick

(02:18:17):
there'll be a couple of bumps on the, Road we'll
have to work out some, kinks but it'll be fresh and. New,
ACTUALLY i think we're all kind of excited for that. Now,
morton The John, morton the offensive, coordinator is a veteran
of The Sean payton Era, saints and he joined The
lions as a senior offensive assistant four years ago before

(02:18:40):
he took the passing game coordinator job with The Denver
broncos the last tw. Years he also served as an
offensive coordinator with The jets in twenty. Seventeen, Meanwhile shepherd
played For campbell during their time With miami and When
Dan campbell was the enter and coach of The Miami,
dolphins been on the staff of The lions five years
coaching linebackers before getting bumped up the defensive COORDINARE i,

(02:19:02):
Look i'm hearing they're gonna use a lot of the same, Terminology.
Kate there's not gonna be much to change. Now Ben
johnson was an exquisite play caller in the middle of
the heat of, battle so that's gonna be an. Adjustment
but the other, fact, too Is detroit is coming off
one of the best seasons in franchise. History they were
fifteen to two last. Year, yes they were knocked out

(02:19:23):
of the playoffs by The, commanders but they were a
mash unit on. Defense The lions win fifteen games this, Year,
no BUT i do think they're gonna win eleven or
twelve and they're gonna win that. Division but here's the. Precedent,
okay this doesn't happen very often where both team with
the team loses both coordinators in the same. YEAR i

(02:19:46):
think it's only happened like maybe half a dozen times
in the last three, Decades so it's, rare but it's not.
Unprecedented but if you want to even more further, clarification
there's actually literally one team in the last fifteen years
to lose both of its coordinators to head coaching jobs

(02:20:07):
in the same, season and that was the twenty twenty
Three Philadelphia. Eagles, now before their coordinators, Left Shane stikeen
being one of them AND i Think Jonathan, Gannon philly
had won fourteen games the year, Before but they didn't
fall off a. Cliff they won eleven the next. Season

(02:20:28):
now they're betting over under total was eleven and a,
half so they won. Eleven The lions is ten and a.
Half and then the rubber hit the road and reality set.
In and When philadelphia got to the, playoffs they lost
To Tampa bay thirty two to nine in the wild card.
Round but what's interesting is when you look at statistically

(02:20:55):
what the drop off, was it was a Minuscule they.
Scored The eagles scored four less points after losing their
offensive coordinator the following season and only had thirty four
less offensive yards cumulatively for the entire. Season, meanwhile, defensively

(02:21:16):
after Losing Jonathan, gannon only seventy defensive yards more were
surrendered the following. Year AND i should note that after
their new regime got their. Foothold philly did bounce back
the following, year which was last, year to win The Super.

(02:21:36):
Bowl can The lions bounce from their first round exit
last year even though they won fifteen. GAMES i think
they can as long as they stay. Healthy that's the.
Key we covered all on The Bernie Frottle, show and
now that we are Into, august well you can be

(02:21:57):
sure we'll be talking a lot of. Football but as you,
know ever Since World cup twenty twenty, two we've been
talking to the other football that's spelled fut. Bol it's
Time Chris purfetts world of, soccer the greatest.

Speaker 4 (02:22:14):
Goals.

Speaker 1 (02:22:19):
The thrilling, finishes.

Speaker 2 (02:22:22):
The International dramao. Him it's all here in this report
from The world Of.

Speaker 9 (02:22:32):
Soccer, Well, bernie as we are learning in the world of,
soccer you can indeed have too much of a.

Speaker 4 (02:22:38):
Good thing in the. Sport we will get to that
in a.

Speaker 9 (02:22:41):
Second first, OFF i want to give a little bit
of an update on The olympics, side on the men's. Side,
here let's talk about what's been going. On egypt is
in the semi finals for the first time since nineteen sixty,
four going through on penalty. Kicks fantastic scenes there In.
Paris but let's also talk about THE us men's youth
team at The.

Speaker 4 (02:23:01):
Olympics.

Speaker 9 (02:23:01):
Again The olympics is an under twenty three event for men's.
Soccer it is ALLOWED i think three or so overage,
slots but most of the rest of the players have
to be twenty three years or, younger so it's a
bit of a youth. Competition and to be, clear most
of these guys again did not play in stuff Like
Copa america or in CHAMPION i, mean excuse, me A

(02:23:25):
Euro's championship here that went on over the. Summer it's
a crowded. Calendar but THE us men hadn't really scored
in The olympics for years.

Speaker 4 (02:23:35):
That can be measured in double.

Speaker 9 (02:23:36):
Digits, however that and it looked like they were headed
that way again after a rough start three To france
in their group, stage a very tough group, stage but.

Speaker 4 (02:23:46):
Then the Young americans really turned on the.

Speaker 9 (02:23:48):
Floodgates they scored for to one Against New zealand and
victory and then a three nil victory Over guyana actually
qualified them for the, quarterfinals which then turned the other
way and they got blanked out By mora for. Nil
so it's a bit of a wake up call after
what looks like good vibes for the men's team. Here
america has always leaned on its youth, depth So i'm

(02:24:10):
not going to chalk this up to.

Speaker 4 (02:24:12):
Nothing it does.

Speaker 9 (02:24:14):
Bring up some more questions than answers as THE us
looks two years down the road to where they will
host A World cup and have an automatic bid in.
There and, again not every eligible player here was field
in The. Olympics they played AT. Copa but it's still
true that the flashes of brilliance that has propelled the
under twenty three squad here just really fell. Apart and

(02:24:36):
THE us does rely on youth, players these guys who
will then be two years older by the time The
World cup rolls. Around they will be relied on, depth
because that's just kind of how The america. Rolls but
it is also a transfer windows, Summer. Bernie it is
THE mls. Season Lionel messi wants an injured not in
for Into miami for The League's. Cup BUT i want

(02:24:56):
to hit upon a conversation that actually got brought up
by Raw, lewandowski The polish great For barcelona weighing in
on a month's long and really much longer than that
issue that has been happening in the world of, soccer
and That lewandowski claims he has concerns over that the
soccer calendar is simply too, crowded, saying, quote this season

(02:25:20):
is going to be more tough than before because we
have more games in The Champions. League there are more
games of the club but also national. Team we travel a.
Lot what he's referring to is what's been going on
this past. Week but we have to wind back the
clock a little bit because back in Late, July european
leagues and players' unions went to The European, commission The
Executive army of The European, union and a commercial court In,

(02:25:43):
Brussels way asking them to weigh in ON fifa congestion
and alleged breaches of competition. Law now there's been a
lot going on back and forth on this legal.

Speaker 4 (02:25:52):
Thing it goes back several.

Speaker 9 (02:25:54):
Months but the main gist of this is this the
sporting calendar for soccer has been quite simply far too.
Cramped one of the stories we spoke About bernie is
how we just had ten months of uninterrupted, soccer and
that's really the tip of the. Iceberg it's pretty. Dramatic
now in these next couple of, years new competitions are coming.
Along FIFA's own attempt to revitalize The Club World cup

(02:26:18):
has brought it to a thirty two team, format adding
once again more pressure that they've got that clubs have
to play that along with their domestic, Leagues Champions league
and the two different and one to two different cups
that happen in these. Countries that's not even to talk
about the expanded format for the twenty twenty Six World,
cup which will be going to forty eight. Teams it's

(02:26:38):
putting more and more pressure on players who are playing
more and more months of uninterrupted. Soccer and, yes part
of this ask to The European commission is also weighing
in on what exactly went down with The Super league
So Fifth Pro. Europe the player union for Those european
players had really some harsh words for The world's, organizer

(02:27:00):
and again this all comes down to the problem that
they say THAT fifa doesn't really talk with clubs or
national leagues before just throwing stuff. Together they, say quote,
REGRETFULLY fifa has consistently refused to include national leagues and
player unions in its decision making. Process FIFA's decisions over
the last years have repeatedly favored its own competitions and commercial,

(02:27:21):
interests neglecting its responsibilities as a governing, body and harmed
the economic interests of national leagues and the welfare of.
Players no complaints from me, There. Bernie the revitalization attempt
on The Club World cup is nakedly jealousy on the
part OF, fifa who has seen the kind of money THAT,
uwaifa the organizer For european sport breaks in with their,

(02:27:45):
incredibly incredibly Popular Champions league. FORMAT fifa finally really bent
the knee here On, thursday and they've offered talks with
global groups and those In europe to try to end
what has become this three month dead law and now
threats of legal, action because nothing really GETS fifa off
its ass and starting to move more than actually giving

(02:28:06):
them consequences to their own. Actions but to be, clear
it's not JUST fifa doing. THIS uefa has also been
trying to expand The Champions. League That Super league mess
happened and there's still the burning embers of that and
we'll see if that comes back and threatens more competition
on that. Horizon and more importantly than, that friendlies in

(02:28:26):
the summer In america and other places abroad have become,
massive important moneymakers For european, clubs and the people who
buy those tickets have an expectation to see the top
stars of those clubs. Play they don't care that it's a,
friendly that it's over In, america that it could be
In Southeast, asia which has become a growing market for
The Premier, league just as it has Been. Stateside those

(02:28:49):
all add pressures as well on top of everything else
that has been going on to make an exhaustive, calendar
especially in these even years where players are jumping between
international team TO nash to their domestic, clubs to those
clubs having to play the domestic, schedule to Playing Champions

(02:29:10):
league Or Europa, league to playing The League's, cup to
playing THE Fa. Cup is speaking specifically Of, england of,
course it's a, Lot, bernie it is a, lot and
it is finally hitting an exhaustive. Point we love soccer
around the, world but quite, frankly this might be a
little bit too, much and much like people have said

(02:29:32):
sometimes with say, baseball you might need to crank it
back a little. Bit the problem is the almighty, dollar
the almighty, euro the, pound whatever you, have is speaking
right now and it is just forcing this down the
gullets further and further and, further AND fifa and, you
waifaer at loggerheads on who should be the one to
control these massive competitions and get all this, Money and

(02:29:55):
ultimately what it's going to.

Speaker 4 (02:29:56):
Do is hurt the sport.

Speaker 9 (02:29:57):
Overall unless we find some sanity and realize that these
are human beings playing the sport and they need an
off season as. Well that's it for us in the
world of, Soccer. Bernie we'll see you next week. Again
it's transfer windows, season plenty of trade rumors and transfer
rumors flying.

Speaker 4 (02:30:15):
Around it's exciting time. Here we'll see you next.

Speaker 1 (02:30:17):
Week and don't look, now but just three hundred and
eleven days until the twenty twenty SIX Fifa World. Cup
forty eight, teams one hundred and four matches played across
sixteen cities in three, countries those three countries being The United,
States canada And. Mexico and if you're scoring at, home

(02:30:38):
the final match will be held In New, jersey so
that's how we debuted The world Of soccer And World
cup twenty twenty two was a different schedule back. Then
it started The United states had their first game Against
england to day After thanksgiving and it went from. There coming,

(02:30:59):
up we wrap up the and we look at a
botheringsome story In Major League baseball involving perhaps the latest
athlete caught up in a gambling. Probe i'll tell you
what we know and what has taking. Place I'm Bernie.
Frattle we are coming to you live from The Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio. Studios keep it locked right. Here

(02:31:21):
you're listening to The Bernie Frattle show On Fox Sports.
Radio all, right wrap it up on The Bernie Frattle,
Show Fox Sports. Radio for go any further on a,
Thing my Producers mark And, brandon our standing job turning
all the, dials keeping us glued, together keeping the plane,

(02:31:41):
midair answering all the phone calls for the midnight. Hour
great job On brandon fool what my? Name it's not
easy doing radio the tricks to make it look. Easy
excellent job by the, Producers mark And. Brian great, teamwork
very much. Appreciated Well Cleveland Guardians Closer Emmanuel. Clase he

(02:32:05):
became the latest professional athlete caught up in a gambling
probe just this Last, monday and he was placed on
nondisciplinary paid leave as part of an investigation By Major League.
Baseball this guy's no ham and. Ager he's a three
Time All. Star now he's going to have to sit
out the remainder of this month through at Least august thirty,
first the same as his Teammate Luis, ortiz who's been

(02:32:28):
on leave since just Before july. Fourth why, well some
unusual gambling activity was flagged on two Of klais's pitches
from games In. June, now it hasn't been confirmed How
clay's leave is connected to the investigation into or, tees

(02:32:48):
but it seems like they're related based on The cleveland,
statement which, said quote no additional players or club personnel
are expected to be. Impacted For, Star it's terrible timing
for The Cleveland. Guardians they're in the thick of a
wild card, race or they, were and they just came

(02:33:09):
up to the trade deadline and they were trying to
figure out whether they should buy or, sell and klass
was one of the players who were likely to be. Dealt,
now obviously that didn't. Happen he took his name off the.
Table but more than, that it's just never a good
look for baseball or any, sport but especially, baseball when

(02:33:30):
you have an investigation involving gambling that could, potentially potentially
have really negative. Implications here's the heart of the. Matter,
Okay ortiz had some pitches the first pitches of certain
select innings of games On june fifteenth against The Seattle

(02:33:51):
mariners And june twenty seventh against The Saint Louis. Cardinals
both of these pitches were flagged because there was unusual
betting on our tees to throw a ball or hit a,
batter which is exactly what happened is our tees threw
both pitches wayward for. Balls, now this is a new
type of new fangled gambling that's called micro prop. BETTING i,

(02:34:14):
mean you know what regular betting. Is you bet the
winner the. Loser the. Total prop betting doesn't have anything
to do with the results of the, game but rather
individual stats in the, game much like in a football,
game will all will the player rush for more than
eighty yards or receive less than eighty? Yard you get the. Picture,
well now micro betting's taking it a step further in.
Baseball you can bet the next pitch if you have

(02:34:36):
if you're on one of those betting apps that has that,
software a microprop bet says you're on the, mound the
next pitch will be a ball or a strike or a,
hit whatever the case may. Be and so this new
fangled option product of micro betting is getting scrutiny because

(02:34:58):
what happens the next time an umpire makes a bad
call on a ball or a. Strike do people's minds
start to wander if he had a bet on the?
Pitch or what about when a base runner is thrown
out at home on a bad gamble to end the first?
Inning you, know there's a bet called a nurfy and
eur fie no runs scored in the first, inning or,

(02:35:18):
yes run scored in the first. Inning is it gonna
beg the? Question i'll make baby reaching. Here, OKAY i get.
It let's not get the tin foil hat sound and go.
Crazy but all of a, sudden now a lot of
people in high places are starting to wonder if it's
time for baseball itself to take a hard and long

(02:35:40):
look in how legal gambling could be affecting our national.
Pastime for the most, PART i don't think. IT i
don't think you're anywhere near the panic mode or anything
along those lines. Yet but we all. Know, listen everybody
knows the story of the nineteen Nineteen Black. Socks everybody
Knows Pete rose and all, that and so baseball has
a different. Connotation but here's the. Thing emmanuel class is

(02:36:02):
by far the most notable player to be investigated for
gambling in proprieties during the legalized sports betting, era which
is not about six years. Old seven years. Old may
have twenty eighteen passport was, overturned which now returned the
federal law to states. Rights AND i believe at least
thirty two states have legalized gambling in some former fashion

(02:36:26):
and others around the. Docket And Luis, ortiz now you
can't exactly call him a household. Name he's still much
more established in his career than any other player that
had been caught up in a betting scandal in the
last few. Years, now last, year as you, Recall Major
League baseball suspended four minor leaguers for one year for gambling.
Violations all four were reinstated last. Month but a fifth,

(02:36:49):
player a potter's utility man by the name Of Tukapte,
marcano he received a lifetime. Band, NOW i only played
one hundred and forty nine games across three seasons his
major league, career but he got a lifetime. Ban back
to the. Artist situation highlights the trouble when you had
the ability for betters to wager on all sorts of

(02:37:12):
minutia and details of. Games, now it's one thing to
bet the outcome of the game and the. Score it's
pretty difficult for a player to manipulate THAT i really
believe AND i don't want to think. Nefariously but when
gambler can wager on things like the precise outcome of
a single, pitch it's only natural from a philosophical or

(02:37:35):
theoretical standpoint that it opens the door for. Malfeasons it
happened in THE. Nba Remember john Tay porter received a
lifetime ban for disclosing confidential information in sports, betters and
therefore he limited his own participation in more than one
game for betting purposes and betting ON nba. Games if memory,

(02:37:55):
serves you could bet Johntay porter the under on x
amount of points in a, game AND i think he
took himself out of the, game so the game went
under and apparently that was. DISCLOSED i don't want to
box this story. Up you get the general gist of.
It so it's gambling becomes more and more entrenched in
The american sports culture and it's come out of the
shadows and it's. Mainstream. Okay more players naturally run the

(02:38:23):
risk of being tied up in potential scandals like. These
so is there a. Solution there is a solution somewhere
just because these products. Exist perhaps Major League baseball can
talk and there is a partnership, here BECAUSE i do
think professional, sports all of them benefit from. Gambling it

(02:38:46):
basically enhances the viewing participation and the competitive outlook and
makes people enjoy the games more and. Longer but maybe
you don't have to bet on every single, product and
some of these micro betting products can perhaps be removed
from the so these situations don't. Arise but there's trouble In,
cleveland and there's an, investigation and we'll see where it

(02:39:08):
takes is nobody knows it's gonna do it for The Bernie,
Fratlesher i'll see you Next. Saturday night at eleven Pm.
Pacific keep it locked up next to Great Andy. Furman
