Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, this has become somewhat of a tradition here
on Fox Sports Waiter Radio. Welcome, border to border, coast
to coast, and as the Great Big Ben Mallard would
say in the air, everywhere, and I think universally on
the iHeartRadio app think get that thing in Pluto. Who knows,
(00:20):
but Bernie Fratto, who typically sits here on Saturday nights,
has traditionally since Bertie took over doing overnights. I don't know, Burnie,
what's it been like three years now? Maybe Fourni, Bernie's
maybe longer. Bernie's taking this Saturday night off the week
before the NFL season every year that he's done the
(00:41):
overnight show. Maybe a chance to refresh, recharge the batteries
before the NFL season. And I couldn't be more willing
to join team No Sleep and jump on board because
we had the first full Saturday of college football. And
I don't know about you, guys, I'm still I'm stilling shock.
(01:01):
I'm stealing shock. Starting from the Waken Bake Special with
the Texas loss to Ohio State and Arch Manning looking
very much like you would expect a first time starter
to look in a raucous road environment against a good
football team too. I mean, Brandon, I'll tip your cap
man to cade Klubnick looking very human, looking, very two
(01:25):
quarterbacks that I've been told were unbreakable look very human today.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
And then maybe you know.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I don't try to get too caught up in bombastic statements.
I'm not a big hot take warrior. Listen, I gotta
deal with Arnie on Sunday nights. Okay, I gotta stay
pretty dialed back, or we would just be pure, pure
firing off hot takes left and right. But I don't
know if there was a more hot seat inducing loss
(01:55):
than what took place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama today. So we're
gonna talk about it all and listen. I have a
hard time sometimes on this show and others whenever you'll
get the inevitable.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Oh dude, college football, that's what we're doing. I mean,
I can't. I can't do it because I can't sell
something to you that I'm so all in on that
having to hear man, are you gonna talk about Major
League Baseball tonight? No, we're probably not. Listen, Brandon, I
know you're all in.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
You're on the smartest numbers dude, I know, but I
know the Dodgers lost the Diamondbacks, and honestly, it's really
about all I got for you tonight on Baseball. I'll
count on to Seger in his updates to get you
a little bit of baseball. In hours three and four,
we'll shift the focus of the show just a bit
to Mike Parsons trade. We'll open up the phone line,
so anything you guys want to get into at eight seven,
(02:52):
seven ninety nine on Fox will be able to do so.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
And we'll want to. But I just I've spent the
better part of.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Every day since January thinking about today, and not just
with the great matchups you have in week one. But
I live in a college I live in college football Heaven.
I live in the Bible belt.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Man.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
This is what we look forward to every single year.
This is up there with like Christmas. This is up
there with the fireworks or the Fourth of July. This
is up there with the Thanksgiving dinner being brought out.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
This is a.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
National holiday and it leads itself into in a lot
of ways, one of the best weeks of the year,
right because you have the start of the college football
season Thursday, and I listen, I get a Week zero,
so it's been around for a week, but you know
Week zero, which is now called Week one. It's really
one of those things that college football has kind of
(03:52):
decided to make a big deal, but not a big
enough deal to where we're like, oh my gosh, can't
miss all four or five of these games. Just hasn't
quite gotten there yet. I'm not dismissing last week. I'm
just saying this is the opening weekend of college football
and it leads right into a week of NonStop, NonStop
NFL projections, NFL talk, and the start of the NFL
(04:15):
season on Thursday night with the Cowboys and the Eagles
after Dallas made a khlil mack under the radar just
before the start of the season type of trade that
may have shifted things in the NFC North. So it's
not just college football that we'll be living here tonight
on the Bernie Friddo Show on Fox Sports Radio, but
it's also the NFL because things get going next week.
(04:36):
So with that in mind, Mark Ramsey's running the show.
Brandon Deutsch is on updates.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Brandon, I've got a no right off the top, how
are you feeling about today, what was I'm still in
shock that Alabama lost.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
That's the thing to me that I came away from
today where I was like, oh my gosh, how did
that happen? I wasn't overly shocked by Texas and Ohio State,
wasn't overly shocked by LSU going in to Death Valley.
I guess you could say the other Death Valley now
since LSU won and beating Clemson, but watching Alabama get
beat whenever they were a double digit favorite. And Aaron
(05:11):
Torres had the great note about the amount of times
that Nick Saban was a double digit favorite.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
And no only lost four times.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
And now Kalin de Boor, in not even two full seasons,
has already lost four times to an unranked team as
a double digit favor. Like, what that was my big shock?
I mean that automatically, much like Vandy last year, this
automatically starts turning on that. I guess the broiler doesn't
heat water, that stovetop a little bit. That gets the
(05:41):
juices flowing in that fan base that is very frustrated
right now because not only were they beaten brand, they
were controlled. Yeah, they were controlled by Florida State. So
that's really My big shocking takeaway from today, did you
have one that just jumped out to you.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Well, I thought something that's going to be talked about
more tomorrow since it was a late game was Nico's performance.
Oh my god, just they got absolutely dominated by Utah.
And Utah was only, like, I believe a six and
a half point road favorite. I'd have to check the
lining and I think that right, yeah, and they won
by like forty points.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
They're close to that, like thirty five, thirty six.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
And the guy that was at UCLA for about you know,
a month or whatever, Aguilar dominated for Tennessee today in
a game where a lot of people thought Tennessee was
on upset alert against Syracuse, you know, because they're building
a program there and it's just, you know, Nico didn't
play well. Again, it's not like the defense was doing
them any favors to give him forty three, forty six
points or whatever. But I thought that's going to be
(06:41):
a big story. Yeah, people are going to talk about
because that was a situation the first nil like power
move type of thing that was happening to that level
that like decided I feel like the summer talk for
college football and now we kind of got a glimpse
of it week one.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
You know, two big stories that dominated our summer college
football talk kind of came to roost here tonight. You're right,
Nico Iyamaliava eleven of twenty two for one hundred and
thirty six yards, a touchdown in an interception. And if
you found yourself watching that game on Big Fox tonight,
(07:19):
you found yourself probably as in shock aghast as I
was at just looking how lost UCLA appeared to be offensively.
Do they know they have another player other than Nico?
He also ran the ball thirteen times for forty seven yards,
you know, not even four yards per carry.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
It was bad. I mean, Brandon forty three to ten.
Forty three to ten was the final score in that game.
It was twenty three to seven at the half. And
you mentioned the power moved part of it. You know,
we've learned a lot, I think in college football. We'll
talk about this through the night, about not getting too
(08:01):
carried away with Week one results. You know, I can
rewind three hundred and sixty five days and I was
probably sitting here on a Saturday night telling everybody how
the game had passed. Dabo Sweeney by right, I mean, Brandon,
go back to last year. Remember what happened in Week
one at Clemson.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
They got destroyed by Georgia, got housed by Georgia, and
we came away saying, dude, I don't I don't think
this is going to work in Clemson. I think maybe
they might need to start thinking about a new leader.
Maybe there might be the modernization of what has to happen.
There has to be something for Dabo to wake up,
(08:42):
start taking more guys out of the portal.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Clemson is going to get passed by. Well, what happened.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Clemson stayed patient, they stayed prodding, and they went to
the playoffs last year. Now, granted it took a win
in a championship game after getting beat by South Carolina.
They went over the championship game against a pretty good I.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Don't want to say elite SMEU team.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I mean smy still make the playoffs, but I mean
Dados still found a way to get in the playoffs.
So I'm trying to learn in this new era, Brandon
of college football and not getting two carried away by
a Week one result, not getting too over the top
concerned whenever you lose a game in week one because
they're still hope in college football. I mean, I'm old
(09:25):
enough to remember it. When you lost a game, the
season was over, the message boards light up about starting
to get ready for next season. It's just it's it's
not good. But I've learned with all of those disclaimers.
The Nico power play looks so bad right now, so bad,
and like I said, week one, game one, long way
(09:48):
to go. But that man was beloved at Tennessee. Hey,
Orange fans, that are up. You guys know you guys
know you fought for him, you waited for him. He
was your quarterback of the future for the better part
of what Brandon three years right because he had signed
(10:09):
with him, played his high school senior year, red shirted
a freshman year, and then when he became the guy,
you go to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Now, we're not trying to revisit history here.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Nico did not have an elite season, but in that
offense with Josh Hipel and his first I think he
gave the reins to Joey Hawsley this offseason. First, second year,
third year he's been on the staff. But I like
to make up there's a lot of debate in the
nerd world about Josh Hipel's offense and how it prepares
(10:40):
you for the NFL, And that was one of the
reasons right that the Nico camp said, We've got to
get to a more pro style offense so Nico can
get ready for the NFL. Fine, whatever, that's a bigger payday,
always going to be a bigger payday for quarterbacks than
it is currently in college football. All of that in
the power play and the way that it played out
in the media and you is where he wants to go,
(11:02):
right where he chose to go because according to his people,
it was a better situation. They lose by twenty They
played in front of thirty five thousand, which wasn't announced
attendance tonight, and as Clay Travis put it, it's truly
the worst decision of the nil era. And I I
(11:23):
don't know that you're wrong right now, Clay, I don't
know that you know. This is quite the victory lap
for Tennessee fans here tonight, But you have to cushion
it all with it is Game one.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
You have to cushion it all. There's a lot of
maybe like an NFL preseason type feel to some of
these opening.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Weekend college football games, you know where you just don't
now this was different Ucla. Utah was a little bit different.
Utah was a you know, five and a half six
point road favorite. As you put it, you know, maybe
there was a thought that Ucla might be able to
catch him, because you know, Utah had a new quarterback.
By the way, Devon Dampier looked really good tonight, and
(12:03):
I didn't know how good of a thrower he truly was,
but the man was on point completed. I missed just
four of his passes, ran for almost one hundred yards
average five point yards five point four yards per car.
I mean, we're in a world where the story of
this is gonna be the choice that Nico made.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
But uh, maybe Utah's got something here.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I don't know, but Brandon on on the surface of
this right now, it looks like one of the biggest
whiffs of the nil era long Way to Go, Right,
Long Way to Go. But I'm glad you brought that up,
because that's a game that you know, just wrapped up
not too long ago. There's been probably one of the
most top talked about situations on this show and others.
(12:46):
Whenever we're getting into college football this offseason, and it
could not have been a bigger dud for UCLA and
for Nico Iamaliava tonight.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Oh yeah, And I think you know on the nil point, Chris.
Another thing with Alabama is I just think it's a
different era now because of nil I just don't think
they have the money. Well, I know, I know they
don't have the money as a lot of these Big
ten teams, and that's part of the reason why Saban
wanted out at the time he did, and the way
college football was going, I just think it's a tougher
(13:15):
job now, and to Bor was obviously taken over the
I mean, how can you follow Nick Saban right, and
now all of a sudden you don't have as much.
I'm not saying they don't have money. Obviously, it's Alabama.
It's a big brand. They have money, but they don't
have the money of Texas. They don't have the money
of Ohio State. They don't have the money of even
USC right, and I think that's going to start catching
(13:36):
up to Alabama in the SEC.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
I think you're right.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
I had one of my buddies, my nine to five
whenever I'm not working here on Fox Sports radio is
covering college football. That's one of the reasons why I'm
so happy that when Bernie decides to take a night off,
he decides to take the night that's the opening weekend
of college football. You could not throw anything more in
my wheelhouse. And I'm so happy that Brandon is here
(14:03):
and Mark's here, but brand is like one of the
most diehard art and college football fans we can have
on the Fox Sports Radio staff. So this is like
my heaven over the next four hours. And I want
to take your calls tonight at eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox, and I know there'll be a point
where we'll have to defend all talking so much college football.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
I know it's coming tonight. I know it is.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
I might be on the Twitter feed right now before
I check it. But we are in a different world
and budgets are completely different than you could ever imagine.
And just because they're a blue blood doesn't mean that
they have the most money to spend or that they've
spent it smartly. But in my nine to five, I
(14:41):
work a buddy of mine that I work with. I'll
leave him nameless tonight. Maybe by the three o'clock hour,
we'll get loose and try to wake him up and
get his take on it. But we covered Alabama when
they came to Oklahoma last year, and his point was,
I played against Alabama in the Nick Saban era, played
against those teams and specifically those defenses, and that's not
(15:03):
the kind of talent that Alabama has consistently had on defense,
like the esthetics of it, the look of it, the
way that you know you have guys out there that
are going straight from Alabama to the National Football League
and starring for years a Terrence Cody's of the world.
You know, even though Rolonda McClain didn't have a great
pro career, he was one hell of a college football player.
(15:25):
So my point is, you just you don't have those
dudes specifically on defense, and it's showing. And it's showing
not just in tonight, right, not just in losing the
Florida State, but in the losses that set them so
far back last year. And you know, it's going to
be the most talked about stat I think over the
next twenty four to forty eight hours in the college
(15:46):
football world. Nick saban coached two hundred and thirty games.
He lost four times to unranked opponents. Caitlin of BOHR
fourteen games, fourth loss to an unranked opponent. But how
about this. Alabama had won fifty four straight games in
regular season non conference games against unranked opponents, and it
(16:09):
comes to an end tonight, and I just it's not
just that they got be brand, it's how they got beat.
You know, I finally got a chance to put eyes
on this game. I was covering the Oklahoma win over
Illinois State, but I finally had a chance to put
eyes on this. Iut was following it and trying to
keep tabs on it, and it was very reminiscent to
(16:31):
the Oklahoma Alabama game that ended basically any hopes for
the playoffs that Alabama had last year. I mean, Tommy
Castillanos talked his trash, talked his gas.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
He won.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Dude completed nine passes nine Florida State threw for one
hundred and fifty two yards. And oh, by the way,
Ty Simpson played pretty well, played pretty well. He's got
some accuracy issues right, just barely over fifty percent, but
he did some nice things out there, and he showed
that he can run the ball at times. But what happened,
(17:06):
I mean, Alabama couldn't stop the run. Alabama couldn't stop
the run. They gave up almost five yards per carry.
I guess to Florida's eight team that under Mike Norvel.
You know again, they most of these boy, we'll get
a really nerd out here, but most of these spread
offenses of this era, they're not like Mike leeches. You know,
(17:30):
they're not necessarily just spread them out. Throw the ball
sixty times a day our game. You know, all these
offenses like that are you know, run by even Lincoln Riley.
What you see in a war again, what you see
in Oklahoma. They're still run based offenses, right, They're based
in being able to run the football, but you can
successfully throw the football, and that's where most of the highlights.
(17:54):
That's where most of the show comes from. I give
you that precursor to say, Mike Novel is not necessarily
that dude. I mean, he's not the guy that kind
of looks at it and it's like not afraid to
throw the ball around, you know, forty times a game.
They just beat Alabama when it's starting quarterback attempted fourteen passes.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Fourteen. I mean, unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
I can't even begin to tell you how shocked I
am that Alabama not only lost but got a rolled
got rolled tonight, So at eighty seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six six three
sixty nine. As the show goes on tonight, we'll open
up the phone lines and get your take on exactly
what went wrong for your team and maybe what went right.
(18:39):
I mean, when we come back, we're going to talk
about Arch. But to me, the story of the day
was only Arch. Because of the way we talked about Arch.
You've been paying attention like you should be, and not
just getting nuts over a guy because of his last name.
You would see, man, Ohio State is really good and
they lost a.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Lot, but they also brought back a lot.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
So we'll die into the biggest story in college football
in the early phase of the schedule.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
Next, right, Hey, Steve Covino and I'm Rich David and
together we're Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You
could catch us weekdays from five to seven pm Eastern
two to four Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and of
course the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Why should you listen to Covino and Rich?
Speaker 6 (19:19):
We talk about everything life, sports, relationships, What's going on
in the world. We have a lot of fun talking
about the stories behind the stories in the world of
sports and pop culture, stories that well, other shows don't
seem to have the time to discuss. And the fact
that we've been friends for the last twenty years and
still work together, I mean that says something, right.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
So check us out.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
We like to get you involved too, take your phone calls,
chop it up. As they say, I'd say the most
interactive show on Fox Sports Radio, maybe the most interactive
show on planetar. Be sure to check out Covino and
Rich live on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
from five to seven pm Eastern two to four Pacific,
and if you miss any of the live show, just
search Covino and Rich wherever you get your podcasts, and
of course on social media, that's Covino and Rich.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
In our two we're going to relive all the big
highlights of Week one of the college football season that's
coming up in about oh thirty minutes from now. I
see you guys have jumped in early. I want to
get right to the phones at eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox. But before we do, allow allow Brandon
and I.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
To have a little bit of a breakdown here on
arch Manning.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Now to the Bernie Frado show. Bernie is Out. My
name is Chris Plank. I'm sitting in Bernie. You'll be
back next week. And by the way, Mark Ramsey.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
It's good to see.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
I'm I just kind of disappeared on Friday night, didn't I.
I never even really said goodbye or anything. Man, things
going well, I would imagine, So you got like Bree's
Best Friends has moved in. It's like I was never
even doing that show anymore, Like just moved on without
even needing anything for me.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
It's the business we choose.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
It's like, Chris, who Brie? I can't even get a
return text? Now it's like, who are you?
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Wait? Did we do a show together?
Speaker 8 (21:10):
No?
Speaker 1 (21:11):
But I'm it was always going to be a very
temporary thing because during the football season, I mean like literally,
I'm tonight was unique because is Illinois state no offence
to any Redbird fans or alums that are out there,
and I always kind of prepare my body to fill
in for Bernie. Now, don't get me wrong, hour four.
(21:31):
You might not want to miss it. I could be loopy,
could be on fumes. But uh, I'm really glad to sleep.
Mark that that's the crazy thing because on the West
Coast the overnight show is not too terrible, right eleven
to three, eleven to two, But in the Central time zone,
I mean that's one eight to five A, one o
to four A, so.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
You can sleep.
Speaker 9 (21:53):
And I just had to get used to, you know,
separation anxiety. It's all better for you. You get this.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Yeah, Well, I'm sorry, I it was. It wasn't anything
where it even was meant to kind of end when
it did because they needed a couple of slots filled
on Saturday evenings, so Arnie and I actually slid into that.
But I've missed it, man, I've missed being here in
the overnight. So I'm pumped to be able to take
your calls throughout the night at eight seven, seven ninety
(22:20):
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six six
three six nine. So I mean, I guess I can
answer like the two or three haters. I wasn't already
fired after. I think my man Shady Sean keeps track.
I think we were on twenty four shows that we
ended up doing. Maybe that was it, twenty four shows
on Friday night. But that's a great crew that's taken
over and I could not have had more fun. They
needed to do it again. I'll be ready to go.
(22:42):
But just man, football season is an awesome grind, and maybe,
like twenty five, twenty six year old Chris Plank would
have been all about it from about the age of
thirty on. It's like you kind of need that sleep.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Are you die?
Speaker 1 (22:53):
At some point all of a sudden, it's like, where's Plank?
Why is Why is he not interviewing the coach after
the game? Oh he died, Yeah, I just he hadn't
slept in two days because he was busy. He was
busy getting Poppy's picks and fighting all night long with
his callers on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
But I miss it. I really do.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
What I don't miss and what I haven't missed has
been my constant pushback on the arch manning hip. Now,
I before I get too carried away here, I'm not
here to take a victory lot tonight, nor should any
of the Arch haters. This is not the end Arch
Manning didn't have a good game and looked very pedestrian.
(23:34):
In fairness, if you followed Arch through high school, and
if you have watched his very limited amount of action
in college games, this is how Arch has looked against
premier competition. I mean, you go back to you go
back to his high school days. He played for a
small school. Whenever they would step up in competition, didn't
(23:55):
go well, right, And so I'm not here to try
to take a vict lap and tell you, guys, I
told you, I told you. I think it's a very
humbling reminder that it doesn't It doesn't matter what your
last name is. Man, it doesn't matter how you feel
about someone's genetics or their DNA, because if that were
(24:16):
the case, I mean, we would have watched Barry Sanders
junior break every rushing record at Stanford, right, we'd be
still talking about ray Lewis's kids making every tackle that
could possibly be made. I mean, it's just it's not
the reality. And this is Cooper's kid. I think some
people are like, wait, that's not Peyton mannings Son. It's
Cooper's kid again. That's not to not Cooper. The point
is we set an unrealistic expectation on this dude before
(24:40):
he ever took a snap as a starter. It's just
it's the football way, it's the sports radio way, and
the more bombastic and outlandish things you can say, the
more airtime you get. And I'm a big Paul Fine
bomb supporter, but you are taking crazy bills if you
try to say that somebody that you haven't even seen
(25:01):
take a snap as a starting quarterback in a game
that matters until today. You are taking crazy pills if
you try to say that he's the biggest and the
best thing at quarterback since Tim Tebow. And also there's
been better quarterbacks since then. So tonight for me, Brandon
is more about just reminding that it ain't easy and
(25:23):
it doesn't matter. By the way, I'll tell you one shift.
Did you get to watch that this morning? Or was
that Z time? Was that catching up on sleep time
for Brandon? You watched it, right?
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (25:33):
I watched it.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
The other thing that is really jarring is it's like
watching and I don't know if this is going to
be every college game, but arch Manning was in every commercial,
every commercial was arch manning the glasses commercial.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
There was I think that there was Gatorade commercial. I
mean it was. He was in every single freaking commercial.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
It seemed like, and that's fine, that's fine, make your money, son.
It's it's hard to play quarterback in the SEC.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
It's hard to play quarterback on the road against Ohio State,
the vinning national champs. It's hard.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
And just because we've christened you as the hes been
favorite and we've made you the guy that's gonna be
the next great thing in college football doesn't mean it's
going to play out that way now again, not taking
a victory lap, not sitting here trying to play.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
I told you so. More than anything else. It's a process.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
And I know everyone's oh, look Jimmy Haslam is there,
and look Andrew Berry is there. The Browns are ready.
Did that look like the number one overall pick in
the draft. No, But it shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
It shouldn't. It's his first start as the starter at Texas.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
I don't need to sit here and be that guy
that's like he couldn't beat out a seventh round pick,
because that's not fair. But Brandon, we set unrealistic expectations
on this dude, and he's just he's not there yet.
Now did he make some big time threat, Oh you
bet he did, just not enough of them, and he
looked he looked very pedestrian at times, very pedestrian.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
I think Sarkesian it's a big issue on his part too.
I don't think there's enough blame going around about Steve
on on X and on all platforms, and I don't
think it's just Arch, but it's like, Okay, you've had
a lot of time to prepare this guy, right, He's
been the backup for a few years now. He's played
in a few games, none of which have been, you know,
(27:31):
as big as this game. But his footwork looked off,
the progressions looked off. And I'm not obviously putting it
all on sark right, like Arch asked to complete some
of those passes, he was throwing him in the dirt,
throwing him over the head, like I get it right,
But it seemed like, you know, before the game, he
was like, Oh, we're gonna let Arch loose, and then
all of a sudden it turned into let's a run, run, run,
(27:51):
Like he lost confidence in Arch after the first few
drives immediately, and it became well, let's let's let's use
our run game. I'm not saying that's a bad decision.
It's just like, I don't feel like Arch was able
to get into a rhythm until late when you kind
of had to pass and you had to try and
get back in the game. And I think he looked
like a much more manageable and solid quarterback later in
(28:14):
the game.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
And you know what, that's kind of my point.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
As he gets more comfortable, as his coach gets more
comfortable with how to call a game, he's going to
be better and Texas is going to be better for it.
You they just lost by seven to defending national champs
in a game where I think that was as as
(28:38):
risky as Steve Sarkshan has been when it comes to
his fourth down aggression. I was trying to pull it
up here real quick, and it was early and often. Yeah,
they went for it five times on fourth down today.
They were just one for five. One of those was
desperation late in the game. One of those was on
(29:00):
the first drive in their own territory. The one time
they picked it up and there is a fourth and goal,
there's fourth down fairly deep in Ohio State territory. I mean,
there's there's not a lot to look back on and
be overly angry. Texas's defense played well enough for them
to win the game. They're not done. You can survive
a loss. But it's a good reminder that, man, you
(29:23):
you're playing a tough opener. You're playing a tough opener.
You're making a lot of money now as a college quarterback,
so you got to be ready for these and he's
been prepared, but it's gonna take a little time for
arch Manny. I'll also add this, Brandon I didn't realize
that Sark was completely changing his offense, and Joe Klatt
talked about that very early in that game. I wasn't
(29:46):
aware that that was a thing, that Texas was gonna
go a little bit more pro style here in twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Were you were? You were of that? I mean I
was not.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
I was a little shocked. I mean, if it ain't broke,
don't fix it. I what was the issue beforehand? I mean,
and they looked pretty dominant the last few years, and
they only lost to teams that were I felt like
substantially better than them.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
Were the only losses they had over the past few years.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Unbelievable. All right, so all the highlights are coming up
here in just a bit. If you missed him at
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine ninety six six three sixty nine, We're gonna take
your calls, but listen, the numbers are not going to
tell a good story for arch Manning. Seventeen of thirty
one hundred and seventy yards, a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
And a terrible pick. Terrible pick.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
But Julian Saying was as hyped in the recruiting cycle
as arch Manning. He was the top ranked recruit in
his class right after arch.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Manning had signed. And even though I cannot stand the
way that he takes a snap, I mean, Mike, I
don't know what it is. Ohio State fan, Maybe you
can help me out. I have no idea why, but
it just it bothered me so much.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
He's in the Shotgunny looks like he's overly bent over,
kind of like this weird posture he's like, so it
looks like he's a first baseman waiting to make a
play more than a quarterback. But it worked. It worked,
and it is weird because there's not a lot of
numbers that like massive statistics that you take away from
that game. You're like, yeah, that side was. I mean,
(31:20):
Ohio State only ran the ball for seventy seven yards,
only ran it for seventy seven yards. There's only one
penalty in the game. Ohio State won the time of
possession by like five minutes.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
The leading rusher in the game was Quintin Weisner, and
he only ran for eighty yards granted five yards per carry.
Maybe you should have done that a little bit more. Sorry,
but you know, Jeremiah Smith six catches, had two drops
in this game. Ryan Wingo, who I Texas fans had
told me was better than Jeremiah Smith, only had two
(31:51):
catches in this game. There's nothing that's gonna come away
from this game statistically where you're gonna say, wow, Yeah,
there you go. There's a Heisman contender. But it's not
the game to bury arch on. It really isn't. It's
as challenging of an opening weekend opponent as you can have.
And I give Texas credit for playing it. They played
played Michigan, They're gonna play Michigan again. They played Michigan
(32:13):
last year. Oklahoma's got Michigan this weekend. But they played
Michigan last year, they got Ohio State, They've got future
series against Notre Dame and Clemson. I mean, Texas is
not messing around in the non conference schedule. I give
them credit for that. But if you're sitting here tonight
as an arch hater, like I'm not necessarily a hater,
I'm just I'm a believer and it takes time. I
(32:35):
wouldn't be taking a victory lap quite yet because I
still think the best is yet to come. Yeah, here
it is Texas over the next few years. Here's one
of their three non conference games. They've got Ohio State
at home next year, They've got Michigan at home in
twenty seven. They're gonna go to Notre Dame in twenty eight,
and Notre Dame is gonna come to Austin in twenty nine.
Don't know where I got the Clemson game from because
(32:56):
Arizona State in thirty two and thirty three, and I'm
messing around. They're playing teams and that's all you can
ask for.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
In college football.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Brandon, anything else that you want to add to the
Arch slash Ohio State game from earlier today, Texas Ohio State,
but we know what it's about.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
It's about arch Manning reaction through most of the night.
I'm sure.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
I also wanted to add, is that you don't want
to be playing your best football now, you know, Like
this is like to me personally after watching all the
teams play, like LSU looked good against Clempson.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
But I haven't even mentioned that yet, have we No,
we have not, and I know we'll get to that.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
But Penn State, Texas in Ohio State still to me
are the three best teams in the country.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
I don't think that's changed. No, that hasn't changed to me.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Again, they went on the road in a tough environment,
damn near won the game.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Their d line looked excellent, excellent, excellent. Hey, by the way,
don't forget tonight. We are very big on the podcast.

full show posted right after we get off the air.
All right, when we come back, we're heading to Nashville,
Des Moines, Vermont, and San Diego to take your calls
throughout the night. Right here. Well look at you LOOKI
we can now say everything in college football is a final.
(34:34):
On an upsetting Saturday, Alabama gets knocked off. I guess
really that's the only true major upset we have this weekend.
But everything is a final, and we've only got a
couple of games left, including Bill Belichick's debut.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
You guys hyped about that? I think I kind of
am final game to go final Jetfish and Washington hold
off Colorado State thirty eight twenty one. This was a
one score game heading into the fourth quarter, but Washington,
Washington explodes in the second half. As a matter of fact,
they were down in the third quarter, but they rolled
(35:12):
twenty four on answered points and they wanted thirty eight
to twenty one. So you've got tomorrow, I guess now today, right,
and be careful with that. Virginia Tech South Carolina three
Eastern two Central Notre Dame Miami Catholics versus Convicts. The
other top ten matchup number six versus Number ten, that's
in primetime tomorrow night. Arnie and I will be on
the air as soon as that game wraps up here
(35:33):
on Fox Sports Radio. And then, of course Bill Belichick
makes his debut with North Carolina against TCU Monday night
at AB Eastern.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
All right, let's get to your calls. Eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox. Brett in Nashville was first in,
and he's first up.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
What's going on? Brett? Welcome to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 10 (35:50):
Hey Bosfay. I was just calling mainly to talk about
the Forest date Bama game. Yeah, I mean, first, don't
want to say, you know, it's his first week against
Ohio State. Let's not overreact. I mean it's going up
against you know, a jogger, not week one. I mean,
come on, guys. But moving to the bigger news. I mean,
(36:10):
I'm a in middle school.
Speaker 11 (36:12):
I had a word done Jersey when he played, just
to show you the Florida State football that I viewed.
Speaker 10 (36:18):
In my life.
Speaker 11 (36:18):
And I tell you I didn't even watch him last
year because it was just embarrassing and the defense I
saw today or yesterday.
Speaker 10 (36:29):
What do you want to call? It remind me of
the Florida State of old.
Speaker 11 (36:33):
And I mean, you know, it's easy to go out
and punch you know, Northwest Nevada Christian State.
Speaker 10 (36:40):
In the mouth week one. But when you go out
and you punch Alabama in the face, even though you know,
like you said, they don't have the same you know players.
You know, Nick Saban's not there. But you know, I
don't think it's an overreaction to be excited about the
Florida State that we saw today. You know, that defense.
I haven't seen him play defense like that really long time. Though.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Appreciate the phone call. Appreciate the phone call. Yeah, they
played well. I mean, let's think about this. I saw
the stat from David Hale. Florida State only completed nine
passes right Oklahoma, by the way, in Week thirteen last
year whenever, Oh, you beat Alabama only completed nine passes.
(37:22):
So basically it ties as the fewest completions in a
win over Oklahoma basically since two thousand and eight.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
I mean, that's just unbelievable. That's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
So three all time classics by Saban and cam and
nine to six and the kick six and the fewest
completions and wins over Alabama, and in three of Kaylen
de Boor's fourteen games as Alabama head coach, that's happened
when they've lost games. I mean, I guess I'm still
(37:59):
in shock looking here that Michigan completed eleven passes to
win that game in the Bowl.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Game against Kaylen de Boor. Unreal man. So I to
your point, to your point, Brett, you need a great
defense in order to sustain that, and they did. I
think Florida State might be onto something.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
They have had a completely rebuild, right, maybe they got something. Hey,
Shane is in des Moines, love me some Shane and
des Moines. What's going on, dude?
Speaker 12 (38:27):
How are you actually sorry?
Speaker 13 (38:30):
That was my fiance that called first. Is actually Kelly
and des Moines. I was driving and so he called in.
He said his name at first.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
But oh, okay, Kelly des Moines, what's going on?
Speaker 12 (38:42):
How are you outstanding?
Speaker 8 (38:45):
Okay?
Speaker 14 (38:45):
Awesome.
Speaker 13 (38:45):
I'm a huge Organ Ducks fan, and I want to
know what you think about I mean, I know this
was a kind of a cheese game this weekend, but
do you think we're going to jump up more or
what's your opinion on how the Ducks are to be
this year? And also I'm living with an Iowa State fan, so.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
But Kelly, thanks for the phone call or as Shane
or whoever got through, I'm glad you were able to
get through. First off, Shane is an Iowa State fans
gonna have a lot to be excited about this year.
I think that's a really good team. Here's the thing.
Next week you get Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State's got a
quarterback that is out for the season. They are all
(39:30):
they're all deemed up, so you probably will beat Oregon.
You'll probably will beat Oklahoma handily. I liked Oregon having
a game like Montana State today. I'm not as high
on Oregon as others, but I mean, and what I
mean by that is, let'sten, they're preseason seven or six.
I think they're still a playoff team, but I look
at them more in that ten to thirteen range. But
(39:52):
if Dante Moore can get comfortable, he's another highly recruited,
highly thought of quarterback. He threw for over two hundred yards,
said three touchdowns today. They didn't run them as much
as I think that they're capable of, But then again,
I don't think anyone wants to be running their quarterback
more than three or four times against Montana State.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Kelly.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I like me some Oregon Ducks man Dan Lanning has
done a really nice job. But I heard Rick Nuwheisl
say this, and just thinking about some of the offenses
in the top twenty five and their battle with new quarterbacks.
Oregon's very quarterback centric, right, You're counting on Bonnicks and
(40:33):
Dylan Gabriel in this new era of Dan Lanning and
their offensive coordinator, and the job that they've done is
just they count on their quarterback to make a lot
of reads and a lot of different decisions. I wonder
I wonder if will Stein's kind of taken that a
little bit off. It will signs the offensive coordinator at
Oregon office quarterback are maybe maybe Dante more, even though he's.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Not as experienced as the previous two quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
They've had, maybe they've they've empowered him more because he's
learned over the last few years.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
I just I really like him a lot. I think
they're gonna be really good. Yeah, Bernie's off.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
It's kind of become a tradition if you will that
the week before the first full Sunday of NFL Action.
Bernie has taken this Saturday off and listen. I'm a
college football life for I'm a diehard. I live, eat,
breathe this stuff. So it's kind of fitting that I
joined Team No Sleep. I wouldn't be sleeping anyway. The
only difference is I gotta stay sober. That's that's the
(41:36):
only difference right now for me. Mark Ramsey running the show,
Brandon Douy's shaking care of things and your call. So say,
we got a couple lined up. I want to get
to We're waiting for you at eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven, seven nine nine six sixty
three sixty nine and coming up here in mere moments
we are We're going to dive into all the audio
and all the highlights from last night. I see your tweets,
(41:58):
They're all great. Josh Wrights will Debor make it through
here too. Bama has you Ellman Row next week after that.
Versus Wisconsin, who, by the way, looked beatable.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
The other night.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
What they open on Thursday night? Friday night they all
run together. They go to Georgia Vandy at Missouri Tennessee
at home. It looked really good today. Then they're at
South Carolina home for LSU and Oklahoma. What I've seen today,
they'll be lucky to be five hundred after that. Now
here's the thing, if there is one, I guess you
could say fingerprint of the early era during the Kalin
(42:37):
de Boor tenure as the Alabama head coach is they
can look extremely awful in one game and then incredibly
amazing in the second game. I'm still trying to figure
out last year for Alabama, and I know that if you,
just before we get back to the phones, give me.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
This for a minute.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
This isn't Alabama team that arguably one of the best
regular season wins. Last year, Alabama beat Georgia and actually
had completely and totally dominated them, and Georgia made a
wild comeback in the second half to make it a
game before Alabama and inevitably held on to win it
(43:20):
forty one to thirty four. I mean, in a matchup
of two vaunted, two vaunted defensive blue bloods, it was
forty one to thirty four, and Alabama won it in
a game when Jalen mill Rod threw for almost four
hundred yards, and then they lost to Vanderbilt. The next
game where they looked beatable, should have lost to South Carolina,
(43:41):
lost to Tennessee, and then got beat by an Oklahoma
team that had seen better days. Oh and in the
midst of all that, in the midst of the loss
to Tennessee and right before the lost to Oklahoma, they
went to LSU on one of the more raucous Knights
(44:01):
at Dead Valley and beat him forty two to thirteen.
I mean, what been my almost five damn scores. But
against Florida State team that should have been overmatched and overwhelmed,
Alabama again looked like that team that lost to Vanderbilt.
(44:22):
They looked like that team that lost to Oklahoma. They
looked like that team that lost to Michigan in the
bowl game, and not like the team that rolled LSU
or beat up on George. It's a hard thing to
figure out right now, hard thing to figure out. By
the way, before we get to the phones, Mark Ramsey,
Mark Ramsey, I want to turn to you. I know
you're not the biggest college football fan that we have,
(44:42):
but I thought that you brought up a great point
about the other big topic of the night, Arch Manning
and his tough start because now, listen, he's not gonna
win a Heisman unless he because I don't think Arch
is gonna put him in a situation where he has
to throw for five hundred yards every single game. But
now we can move on past hype. Right now, the
work really really starts.
Speaker 15 (45:02):
Well, you know, you come out and you know there's
all the games, obviously, and then there's so much hype,
like Sears Tower, hype about Manning because of his name
and the reputation of his family, and it was all
put on his head.
Speaker 9 (45:17):
There is no way he had any chance. He was
supposed to in the eyes of everyone. In my view,
he was supposed to win this game and completely win
all of college football so that there's no more games left.
So there was nothing he could do to make it right.
I mean, so he lost, and now there's no preseason
(45:37):
for college so now he's lost the game. Everybody wants
to humble the name of Manning. So now he could
just get on with the rest of his life and
do the best he can for the rest of this
because it was just way too much hype.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
Again, far be it from me to be the person
to tell everybody to chill out. You know, I like
a good over hiked story. I like losing my mind
more than anyone else. I really truly do. But this
was at the point, and this has been at the
point where it's just unattainable. It really truly is. And
if you stop and take a moment and you dig
(46:14):
a little bit, and I know this is gonna sound crazy,
and you're like, hey, go look at some of his
high school stuff. Hard to say, in fact, I kind
of feel gross hearing it come out of my mouth,
but it's just it's the reality. Long way to go, man,
But I'm not giving up on him, man, I'm not
gonna be that guy, all right, Brandon, any any final
loose ends that we need to tie before we get
(46:35):
back to the phones, And I got a line open
man at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Anything
else that we're kind of missing from the college football day?
Speaker 4 (46:41):
That was, yeah, Garrettssmeyer and Kid Club Nick because I
thought Kate Clubnick was horrible and I was more in
on Kid Clubnick than I was Garrett Nussmeyer as a prospect.
But Garrett Nussmeyer outplayed him completely.
Speaker 2 (46:56):
Did he didn't? He did? I and Garrett Nessmeier moment.
Speaker 1 (47:00):
In that game, there was the touchdown pass that was
ruled a drop and no one in the booth even
talked about the possibility of it being a drop in
it ended up being called an incomplete pass, which I
thought it was a catch. But it was one of
the best throws I've seen from a college quarterback. I mean,
(47:20):
just an absolute time, an absolute lazer. Well, it wasn't
really a laser. It was more of just a perfectly
placed ball from Gary Nessmayer. I thought he looked great
if I'm an LSU fan, knowing how malign that defense
had been, how many starters or at least contributors they
brought back here too of a system and man, good
(47:43):
on Brian Kelly, feel how you want about him, But
at and won the opener. Had played tough openers for
LSU year in and year out. The team I think
is really good. This is a top five team roster wise,
and I think to go on the road it's the
best win a week one. It's the best win of
Week one. Florida State's the most surprising win of Week one,
but LSU. LSU had the best win of week one,
(48:06):
going on the road and beating Clemson so far. Remember
we still have three big games left. I mean, Virginia
Tech could go out and take out South Carolina tomorrow
and that could change this whole thing. All right, Hey,
you know what, what a way to start our number
two Poppies picks, My man Poppy up in San Diego.
Speaker 2 (48:25):
It's been too long. Let's go. Welcome to the show, Poppy.
What's going on?
Speaker 8 (48:30):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (48:31):
Thanks Chris. You know, I just want to say we
missed you right here and you know, on Friday Night show,
and I'm glad that you're back, and we were I
kept on asking for you every single time with Hey,
I'm just glad that you're here, and you know been
Sorlvania and all the fandom issue and yeah, what's going
(48:52):
on here in San Diego? It's just beautiful San Diego.
Like I just wanted to talk before I get to
the pick. Well, we miss your show because on the
the ones that are right there, I save my picks
and they don't really like it, even though they were
questioning my pick. I gave the preseason and we've made
that blink blink with the Ravens over the Anders, and
(49:12):
I called a measure and I told them Hey, what
do you guys think about the pick?
Speaker 10 (49:15):
They were like all quiet, like crickets.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
I'm like, yeah, Kevin figures, no sell you getting a pick?
Speaker 16 (49:20):
Right?
Speaker 2 (49:21):
Oh my goodness, Poppy, what's going on?
Speaker 8 (49:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (49:24):
I know right, like I know he's sleepy. And uh,
you know with arch Manning, yeah, I think Texas was
a you know, they didn't do so good. And then
today they were having a card show right here in
San Diego. My first time going to a card show.
There was an arch man in a MASSA guy, Hey,
how much would you want for this arch Manning? He
said one hundred bucks. I'm like, hey, he just lost.
He thanked. I made him an offer twenty. He wasn't
(49:46):
taking it. I had a low ballo. I was trying
to get a steal, but nothing, nothing there happened. You know.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Oh, so you're saying they were trying to overhype an
overprice an arch Manning card and Poppy wasn't having.
Speaker 14 (50:01):
It and I wasn't having it. No, And then they
were even before I get my picks, they were even
trying to punk me. I had a Bonex rookie card
and uh, I'm a leak from the giants or receiver.
It was a prison card Panini. Both of them were
Panini's right, and this guy was trying to trade me
for any of my cards and any any of his cards.
(50:23):
He had a Caleb Williams Rookie Optic, the Green Shining
one that I was kind of interesting. He's like, where
we're gonna match here, You're gonna have to owe me
fifteen dollars for the Caleb Williams. I'm like, wait, you're
getting two of my players for one. That's not a
good deal. I'm like, no, no.
Speaker 10 (50:38):
No, that poppy.
Speaker 14 (50:40):
And I was going to say the picks. The picture
tomorrow is go with the picks, guys. Look tomorrow's at
the good games. And I really like in the poject guys,
tomorrow uh project playing Minnesota. I think Chris right at
plus one sixteen, right, that's what the line.
Speaker 17 (50:55):
Is right now.
Speaker 2 (50:55):
Yeah, I was just looking at it for you.
Speaker 14 (50:58):
Okay, okay, I'll tell you. I really think I like
the Padres because they're right behind the Dodgers, and you
know they want to fight for first place. So we're
gonna take the Padres on that one positive money. And
I was going to ask you for the next game
that I'm feeling and the Dodger against the Diamondbacks. Do
you know the chance the line by.
Speaker 1 (51:18):
Any chance two twenty minus two twenty on the Dodgers
plus one seventy eight for the for the Diamondbacks.
Speaker 14 (51:24):
Min it's twenty. I'll say the run line on the
run line is minus one.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
And night yeah, oh the runlight yeah, minus one and
a half. I'm sorry, Yeah.
Speaker 14 (51:33):
You wanted to happen? What is the plus? I could
pay minus one thirty right there, Chris, Yep, yep, yeah,
And I like that one because look, revenge game. I
saw a Tawny a card today and know Toni's signed
by the universe. Guys. I saw a Toni rookie card
telling for one thousand and six hundred. So we got
to go with the Dodgers and maybe a bonus.
Speaker 17 (51:50):
Pick for you.
Speaker 14 (51:50):
I think is going to hit a home run. I
just have a feeling, So maybe you want to do
a proper revenge game for the Dodgers. I like that one,
and I guess save the best for last of them. Uh,
football is coming up on Thursday. You know we got
the Cowboys versus the Eagles. You know, a lot of
drama right there, with Michael Paul Say and Jerry Jones,
and I love that when you see a lot of drama,
(52:11):
that's good because we're gonna go with the Eagles. I
believe it's a last time I checked, it was minus
seven mine seven and a half, I know. And we're
gonna go with the with the Eagles, fly Egles fry
minus seven and a half. They're gonna spank them. And
thank you very much chrispher here and hope you have
a good night and we make it here. We're glad
(52:31):
you're back.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
I love you, buddy. Thanks man, appreciate the phone call. Poppy.
Speaker 1 (52:34):
I think Poppy likes me because I actually actually like
his picks. K FIG's done with you, man, all right,
you just just Kevin Figures, doesn't he's eight fake k fake.
Tell him you're not as entertained with Poppy as I am.
Poppy Pop is a very polarizing personality.
Speaker 9 (52:50):
They had a topic and Poppy started doing picks.
Speaker 15 (52:53):
Oh, so they asked him, what what does this have
to do with what we're talking about?
Speaker 5 (52:58):
So that's when they moved down for Poppy.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
Man, it's Poppy Poppy can I just this is a
bad network host.
Speaker 1 (53:08):
The bosses are all in bed I Poppy, I'm proud
of you for keeping tabs on baseball. I'm sure there's
a lot of people right now in baseball heavy markets
where you got your team that's in a pennant raise.
You started asking for lines of the baseball game.
Speaker 2 (53:23):
I couldn't.
Speaker 1 (53:24):
I couldn't be further disconnected from anything. And don't get
me wrong, it's not like some class that haven't gone
to since the opening weekend. I got the syllabus and
just didn't show up. You know, I've been regularly attending
my major league baseball class.
Speaker 2 (53:38):
But it's just it's so far down the depth chart
for me, it really is.
Speaker 1 (53:44):
I mean, it's just it's like the third string quarterback
that you're trying to side if you're gonna put in
in a seventy well, it's the final score of your
USC Trojans today, seventy two to eight or something.
Speaker 5 (53:53):
Like that, seventy three to thirteen, A thirteen thirteen.
Speaker 4 (53:57):
Sorry, I'm mad we gave up thirteen points to some
sur state Like baseball.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
I'm looking at a third string quarterback like a click
and rally trying to decide if I should put him
in or not all rights. Get back to the phones.
Kevin is in Culver City. Oh I like that, Kevin.
Welcome to the show. You're on Fox Sports Radio. What's
going on?
Speaker 8 (54:16):
What's up?
Speaker 17 (54:17):
Man? Hey?
Speaker 8 (54:19):
I got everybody hating on my board. Nico, let me
make some things clear.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
A right defend him.
Speaker 12 (54:24):
He came home.
Speaker 8 (54:25):
He's from Long Beach, the kids from Long Beach. If
you're from LA, you know what it's about. He wanted
to come back home, play in his backyard so everybody
could watch him play. Everybody could go to Alabama or
Tennessee with the great defense, and oh that's great. The
NFL scouts know when he comes out, he's still gonna
be a top ten pick. Everything I saw tonight looked great.
(54:47):
The arm talent looked great, the accuracy looked great. He
looked mobile in the pocket. He looked comfortable in the pocket.
He was moving around. He got a touchdown. Nobody lit
it up today. Of all the quarterbacks, who Garrett from LSU.
I mean, that's about it.
Speaker 12 (55:01):
But everybody at for deestrict names.
Speaker 8 (55:03):
But look, the kid went to UCLA and you know why,
you sail I lost because the defense got their ass
kick by Utah running the ball up their throat. The
Shan Foster's got to get his stuff together. Enough is
enough with you know, the teaching moment. He's got to
start winning some football games. The offense wasn't the problem.
The defense couldn't stop the run. They couldn't get the
(55:23):
ball back to UCLA. It's the same thing that Kay's
winning Amson to the USC and Caleb Williams a couple
of seasons ago. Run the football, keep the great offense
off of the field. That's exactly what Utah does. They
do it to everybody. And I thought Nico played great.
I thought the throwings was great. I thought his actressy
was that look. We looked like a top ten quarterback.
(55:43):
He looks like a great quarterback. He wasn't the problem.
So all this stuff about Nico and Klay Travis having
solid rapes because the Long Beach kid came back to
Long Beach, that's just besides the point. He's gonna be
a top ten pick when he comes out. All the
scouts know, just like Arts Manning, he'll still be the
number one pick when he comes out. And fine, the
defense got their asso lit up tonight, and Ucil's got
(56:04):
to get their defense together if they want to be
a factor in college football, and everybody knows it out
here in the Big Ten.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
Thanks for the phone call. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (56:12):
Here's why, And that's just again, it's another one of
those really small sample size things. Tennessee put up forty
five points tonight. Joey Aguilar, who was going to be
the UCLA quarterback through three touchdown passes, didn't quite have
a didn't have a great QBR.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
But you know.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
It's sixteen of twenty eight ran the ball pretty well too.
I mean, hell, Tennessee rand the ball forty times. Side
Syracuse rand the ball forty four times in that game.
That's it and it got Dude, I am never, ever,
ever as somebody who left home and never really went
back in college. I don't see a lot of people
(56:50):
that are out there like, why don't you go back
and represent Wood River people from the Midwest?
Speaker 2 (56:54):
No, blank, get back to the river bed.
Speaker 17 (56:56):
You know.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
It's just it's it's a little different world, right.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
There's sure there's community pride, you want to get back
to the lou and all those things, but no, it's
I understand it's a little bit different. Whenever you're talking
about going home to La But come on, man, come on,
he got sideways during an nil agreement with Tennessee, and
if the money would have been right, he'd still be there.
It wasn't about him wanting to go home. It was
(57:20):
about him thinking he could make more money.
Speaker 2 (57:21):
And you know that. I know that.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
So let Tennessee fans have their little mini victory lap
for tonight. I'm not I don't disagree with you. I
think that both the quarterbacks today that will get the
most criticism, and I think I mean, Ty Simpson played
pretty well, but he's gonna get criticized because Alabama lost
those three quarterbacks in Nico, Iamaliaba, in Arch Manning. And
(57:45):
you know, again, Ty Simpson, I think they're gonna be fine.
They're gonna be fine.
Speaker 2 (57:50):
Boy, You're right.
Speaker 1 (57:52):
Deshaun Foster has to figure something out with that defense
or UCLA is going to be in big trouble. You know,
this ain't the Pac twelve, I think the Pack twelve anymore.
I mean, it is a completely different world you are
dealing with. I mean just the Michigan's, the Ohio states
of the world, even the penn States now with what
they're able to do defensively. I mean, I feel like
every year I look up in Penn State has the
(58:13):
best edge rusher in college football.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
If it was Abdual.
Speaker 1 (58:17):
Carter or if it was you know, going back to
even what Micah was able to do playing all over
the place. I mean, they just you're going up against
dudes week in and week out defensively. They got to
be better defensively too. You say he's got to be better.
All right, Listen, let's get a break when we come back.
I see y'a on Ole, Mike the Leprechaun. I gotta
line open for you at eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox if you want to jump in. The Twitter
(58:38):
reaction has been great so far. Tonight we'll hit some
of your tweets and listen two hours of NonStop college
football talk and then an hour even though even though
Poppy did get a Citizen Baseball, which I again, like
I said, I love, But in our three, we're gonna
give our first opportunity to react to the Mikes Parsis trade.
(58:58):
And I guess it's been kind of a wild week.
I feel like I can relate to Dallas Cowboy fans
a lot. I'm a Raiders fan. It was right before
the opening of the twenty twenty was that twenty eighteen
season when the Raiders traded Khalil Mack. I remember I
was getting ready to do a pregame show for the
Sooners and one of my buddies does that thing, you
(59:21):
know where they show you their phone. You're like, what
am I looking at?
Speaker 2 (59:23):
Here? You're like what? And the realization is you you
feel like you got a lot.
Speaker 1 (59:28):
She got a couple first round picks. But where you
gonna be picking with those first round picks?
Speaker 2 (59:32):
You know?
Speaker 1 (59:32):
Are you in the teens? Are you in the top ten? No,
You're usually in the low twenties. And Green Bay is
a team that doesn't pick high in the draft. So
I'm a little bit perplexed by But we'll talk about
it when we come back. Get your calls, We'll get
the highlights from last night on a busy Bernie Fratto show.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Chris Plank sitting in right here.
Speaker 7 (59:54):

into some NFL Brandon here next hour, which we'll do
in depth in hours three and four. And it's not
(01:00:49):
like we're gonna ignore college football, but it's just very
rare when you're get to move like this right before
the season. What do we have to go back to
their twenty eighteen for the Raiders whenever Khalil Mack was traded.
Just it doesn't it doesn't compute when you have a
guy that that that that is that much of a
defensive difference maker. Just move on from them. But we'll
(01:01:11):
get into it coming up a little bit next hour.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
Plus.
Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Uh No Saturday night in the Sunday morning show would
be complete without a few predictions and picks, which we'll
have as well. But at eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox, were committed to your calls here tonight. And
it's been a minute since I've heard from this guy.
It's been a minute. Mike the leprech Con is in
tonight on Fox Sports Radio. Mike, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
Man? How have you been?
Speaker 17 (01:01:36):
I've been great? Actually, Yes, looky here, you're looky here
in the new Yes Eat Lucky from the Mac the Dame.
Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
Well, I was just saying look here because I was
so happy to see you on hold.
Speaker 14 (01:01:51):
So yesterday.
Speaker 17 (01:01:52):
You know what they call me? No, this cleek alone
in the Latter show, they call it the worst caller
of all times.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
The worst caller of old time? Who calls you the
worst caller of all time?
Speaker 18 (01:02:02):
They're joking me.
Speaker 17 (01:02:04):
It's the irrigation.
Speaker 12 (01:02:05):
But I have three.
Speaker 17 (01:02:06):
It passed out about thirty rings, beautiful rings actually, and
I have three of them. And now everyone is mad
about that, even the rainer, she thinks I stole them.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
Wheld you? I mean, what are the rings from?
Speaker 17 (01:02:20):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
For mala militia?
Speaker 17 (01:02:23):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
You know, call's giving out rings on a show. I
might start calling the damn show.
Speaker 12 (01:02:28):
I'll send you a picture. I'll send you a picture
after I get up the call.
Speaker 17 (01:02:31):
I have to hear them. I'm the only one in
the world. Ben Ben has ten and Ben was in
Vegas last week and he's coming to Boston the whole
who's coming to Boston?
Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
Are you the out Are you because you're rich? Are
you flying them all out there? Are you the sugar
Daddy or the big malachow a hotel.
Speaker 17 (01:02:49):
And a car and your venue venues?
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Look at you, man.
Speaker 17 (01:02:53):
And I won't tell you the surprise place we have
booked in Boston, but you'll you're you'll be surprised that
this will be anyway, I mean, this is October anyway,
So yesterday, yes, I'll send you a picture.
Speaker 8 (01:03:06):
So BC scored sixty six points yesterday.
Speaker 17 (01:03:11):
Okay, that's good. Poppy, Okay, so Poppy, this is yesterday.
Poppy and I were on at the same time. And
Poppy is begging to do the football picks for the
new season with Lorena. But last year he didn't show
up for three of them, and he talked and talked
and talked and doesn't get to the points. So anyway,
Lorena said, well, why don't you put on Mike's Leprechaun
Rubbert Duck versus Poppy.
Speaker 10 (01:03:33):
Oh then benjam.
Speaker 17 (01:03:35):
Yeah, like Mercer Dlaw, what could possibly go wrong?
Speaker 12 (01:03:38):
So that's a new base my question.
Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
Boston College scored sixty six points, great, but it was
against Fordham. Did you pick Boston College cover something?
Speaker 8 (01:03:50):
No?
Speaker 17 (01:03:50):
But I'll give you my picks.
Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
Okay, go ahead, Okay, Mike the Leprecauns picked now, which
he is proclaiming will be better than Poppy's picks.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Go ahead, Michael Leprechauns.
Speaker 17 (01:04:01):
And my duck is helping me.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
I got your help for your duck.
Speaker 8 (01:04:06):
Not my pick.
Speaker 10 (01:04:07):
Not to Dame versus Miami Hurricanes.
Speaker 17 (01:04:11):
The over under is fifty point five. Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
It looks sounds good to me.
Speaker 17 (01:04:17):
Yeah, and no, that's not my joke.
Speaker 8 (01:04:20):
I have a joke the end anyways.
Speaker 17 (01:04:24):
So not Todame is favored by three points. So I'm
actually not only going to say that it's so if
Not to Dame wins by three, does that cover the
spread for them?
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Push?
Speaker 17 (01:04:37):
What does that mean?
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
I means you push? You just you get your money
back from your back Oh your money back?
Speaker 17 (01:04:42):
Okay, I didn't know that. That's a new word for me.
Speaker 10 (01:04:44):
Thank you anyway, So.
Speaker 17 (01:04:46):
I'll not only tell you that it'll be a three
point margin and it will cover. It will go over
to fifty point five. Okay, you will score the score
twenty seven not to Dame twenty four Miami Hurricanes. So
there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:05:02):
You got Notre Dame beating Miami twenty seventeen in a
game that would go over by a half point and
it would be a complete push. All right, Michael Leprechaun,
no one thing.
Speaker 17 (01:05:15):
Job.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
Oh oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, your show go ahead.
Speaker 17 (01:05:18):
Okay, sorry, anyway, I'm glad I've got this. Where have
you been?
Speaker 19 (01:05:22):
By the way, you didn't know one missing?
Speaker 17 (01:05:23):
Love me? But anyway, as a there's a wreck. There's
a food chopping Boston that sells sanguages and their favorite
their best thing is ef and eef. But when the
guy went into the restaurant to get the sandwich, it
came out and it.
Speaker 8 (01:05:41):
Was only cheese.
Speaker 17 (01:05:43):
Do you know why?
Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Why is that?
Speaker 17 (01:05:46):
It was a big missstake mistake.
Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
Okay, thanks, Mike the Leprechaun. I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
A big mistake.
Speaker 1 (01:05:56):
My gosh, come on, somebody hire Mike the lepreton on
some new writers. Yeah, I was, I was wondering where
he was going with the Boston College thing, like, so
you know, they put sixty up against a bad football team. Now,
if you picked him, and I'm pretty sure that would
have got you over the number, that's one thing.
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
But yeah, you can't sit here. I brought this up
earlier in.
Speaker 1 (01:06:20):
A lot of ways outside of Ohio State, Texas, Florida State, Alabama,
we're gonna get Tomorrow night with Miami and Notre Dame.
What we're gonna get on Monday night with TCU and
North Carolina to a certain degree, what we got with
Clemson LSU. Those are usually the outliers for the most part.
A lot of the non conference season has become like
(01:06:40):
an NFL preseason, where you're just you're trying to figure out, all, right,
what's the opponent? Like, I mean, I'm watching all these
highlights of how great Arizona looked against Hawaii, how great
I don't know, Texas tackle looked against Arkansas Pine Bluff.
Does that mean those teams are necessarily good? I don't know.
(01:07:01):
I think so, but maybe it's just a matter of
them getting confidence. I don't know, But thank you, Michael Leprechaun.
I'm not on Friday nights anymore. Because Brie fired me.
That's why. So that's that's why. Manuel in GUARDENA Manuel, Man,
it's great to hear your voice.
Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
Welcome to the show. What's going on?
Speaker 20 (01:07:20):
Flank gangs?
Speaker 8 (01:07:22):
That's what they yelling.
Speaker 12 (01:07:24):
It's not about a shallow reassol about reality. What's up,
Chris Blankade. I like Michael Leprechaun, but he's a pushing
little bastard? Is he? Many Christmas?
Speaker 15 (01:07:35):
Girl?
Speaker 12 (01:07:36):
Do a little prep too? I mean, like, what the
hell are you talking about? You're gonna give us a
pig and then your act camp it's gonna cover do better.
Speaker 19 (01:07:43):
Mike, and you know, and I'm a mic guy.
Speaker 12 (01:07:46):
I'm not one of the guys that bashes him all
the time. But that pushing little bastard was on edge tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
You think I didn't give him You think I made
him uncover? Was that? Maybe that's a me problem? Manuel,
Maybe that's a probably. By the way, how are you doing?
Speaker 12 (01:08:03):
I'm doing great, man. I'm on an island, not just
because I'm working on terminal Island at the moment, but
because I am maybe the one person that thinks that
Jerry Jean Jerry Jones.
Speaker 18 (01:08:17):
Did a genius move.
Speaker 12 (01:08:19):
Okay, I know a lot of people say, oh, you
can't trade this guy. We saw it right with Khalil Mack.
Can't trade a guy in his prime or whatnot. But
there's a few things, man. You know, Jerry wasn't going
to reset the market again, you know what I mean
he did it with Dad. He was like, screw that,
I ain't doing it. You know. He made the guy
(01:08:40):
a good offer, the guy turned it down.
Speaker 8 (01:08:42):
He wanted it more.
Speaker 12 (01:08:43):
That's business, it's no big deal. But where I think
the genius was was that he leaves Green Bay man,
because look, think about it, Dallas was not gonna win
at all with Parsons, not this year, probably not next year.
So you move get a few first round picks. Granted
they might end up being second round picks or late
(01:09:06):
first rounders what have but we're still gonna be better
next year. Again, they weren't gonna win squat this year.
They know that. And with Green Bay, we'll see, man,
because how many times have we seen where you know,
you got the best player. I think the last one
to win it all was probably like Aaron Donald. But
(01:09:27):
just because you've got the best player on defense or whatnot,
doesn't guarantee you squat man. You and I know that.
And lastly, Raiders will go ten to seven and ten
and seven, maybe squeaking in the wild card, but more
likely just give us something to look forward to the
next year. It will get better, though, Plank way.
Speaker 8 (01:09:54):
Outro I have.
Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
I have a confession. Make I know.
Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
We don't do time checks on national radio, but it's
just so we can ear market On Sunday, August thirty,
first Ear of Our Lord, twenty twenty five at two
thirty seven, am Manuel, I can report to you I
have way too much hope right now. I have way
too much hope as a Raiders fan, as a long
(01:10:23):
suffering member of the Raider Nation, somebody who tries to
stay objective. But again, you know, I'm I might be
a little bit biased whenever it comes to my team
that I've that I've loved since I came out of
the womb.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
It's hard. It's it's been hard to be a Raiders fan.
Speaker 16 (01:10:42):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
We were cool.
Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
We were the it team whenever I was growing up,
Silver and Black, easy e NWA. Everyone was wearing our gears,
great winning titles. Our star players were studs. Everybody knew
who they were. But been a little embarrassing, been a
(01:11:03):
little embarrassing since about what year twenty sixteen?
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
Not good.
Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
But I'll say this much. I think they're gonna be good.
I think the Raiders are gonna be a good football
team this year. There I said it. Sorry, not sorry.
I think they're gonna be a good football team. I'm
not telling you they're gonna win the AFC West. I'm
not telling you that they're gonna go to the playoffs
(01:11:29):
and win a game. I'm just telling you I think
they're gonna be a good team. And with their schedule
that they have, they can be a good team and
still finish nine and eight. And right now, that's all
I'm asking for. I don't want to spend my Fridays
as an angry drunk. I want to be a happy
drunk on Sunday. I say Saturday. Sorry, I want to
be a happy drunk on Sundays. That's what I'm all about. Smiles, friends, celebrations.
(01:11:57):
Here's the other thing. There's the other thing, just for teams,
for fans of teams like I am of the Raiders,
you can't allow yourself to get too carried away by
the preseason. If things were bad and you can't allow
yourself to get too carried away with the preseason if
things were good. It's this wildly delicate, like tightrope that
(01:12:22):
you walk. Yes, man, I thought so and so looked
really good in the preseason. I think he's gonna have
a good year, Like, oh, that's awesome. But then you realize,
what did I just say? I just said that he
looks very good in the preseason? What can I really
take away from the preseason? That's nothing at all, By
the way, that's not just the Raiders, that's every team
out there right now where you're trying to fight that
(01:12:43):
battle of how much you can truly take away from
the preseason. It's like we're doing on this show tonight,
how much can we take away from some of these
games that we watch today?
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
There's arch Manning suck. I don't know. I don't think so.
I think that he is a very good, young, talented
courter back that we gave unfair expectations to. Is is
Alabama done? I think? Who was it?
Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
Paul on the texts or are the tweets earlier basically
said I everyone's gonna get fired.
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Caitlyn of bor is not gonna make it through the year.
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
I mean, they had an ugly loss early in the
season last year and still found themselves in the midst
of the playoff race.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
It is what it is.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
I will say this, though I find it hard. I'm
jumping around on different topics. Here from Manuel's call on
the Jerry Jones decision to trade Mike Parsons. That voice
that Manuel put to it to say, Man, tell me,
where is Jerry's mistake in this? Because they they got
some draft capital for a guy that they were tired
(01:13:43):
of playing games with. Here's the first round pick that
Green Bay held over the last couple of seasons. In
twenty twenty five, it was the fifth, the twenty third
overall pick. Twenty twenty four was a twenty fifth, twenty
twenty three to fifteenth, twenty twenty two, twenty eight, twenty one,
twenty nine, twenty twenty thirtieth. They haven't picked in the teens.
(01:14:07):
They haven't picked in the top fifteen since basically twenty nineteen,
when they were twelve they were fifteenth, and twenty three
they were twelve. They haven't been a top ten team
in the draft since two thousand and nine. So you
are making a deal and you're getting draft capital. Whenever
(01:14:28):
you're looking at a team that just doesn't draft that
low very often, I.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
Don't know, lower high.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
I always get confused on that that doesn't draft that
high very often. You're looking at a team where you're
gonna get yourself a pick year in a year out
around twenty five for twenty six. Got to count on
your scouting department.
Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:14:46):
The great thing for Jerry, or if you want to
look at it, glass at full is well with both
of your picks, maybe you could package those to move
up a little bit. Maybe that's something you can use
to move up in this draft. But we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
All right, I gotta break. I see you, Stephen Casey.
We'll get to your call next.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
I owe you all the highlights from the day that was,
and a lot of my could talk coming up as
we roll through the night right here on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, it's the Bernie Fratto Show. I'm Chris Plank
sitting in tonight. Bernie will be back next week, fear not.
But it's kind of been typical for Bernie to take
this Saturday off right before the start of the NFL season.
(01:15:25):
And I've been pumped to sit in over the last
few years. For My name is Chris Plank. I'll be
back tomorrow night. Well, I guess HiT's tonight, My gosh
with Arnie Spanier. I don't know math seven. What about
like seventeen hours from now, it's I get a little sleep,
watch two college football games, and then we'll recap the
whole weekend right here on Fox Sports Radio. The highlights
(01:15:46):
have been pushed back, so we'll kick off hour three
with all the highlights and all the moments from the
games today. We'll continue to take your calls at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. There's some good stuff at
Twitter that we need to hit too, like a man
Ucla Dodger frank And said, breaking news, My UCLA Bruins
will be changing their mascot to the UCLA paper bags.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
It's pretty bad. But were you surprised Brandon a little
earlier in the program that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
We had an overly optimistic UCLA fan that said everything's
going to be okay with Nico it's the defense.
Speaker 5 (01:16:19):
I'm not shocked.
Speaker 4 (01:16:20):
I mean, he definitely it's probably a cousin of his
that just called, you know, because I don't know who
could be standing up for Nico at this time. Besides,
I'll be. But I'm telling you there are some delusional
Ucla fans. I'm telling you they're out there. They actually
think that they'll be better than USC at football. At sometimes,
just as USC fans like myself know that Ucla will
(01:16:42):
always be better than us at basketball. It's just a fact. Yeah,
you know, it's the same thing with football. Ucla is
not a football school, never will be.
Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
I will say this much. It's it is pretty cool.
Whenever USC.
Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
I mean, we got to go back aways for Ucla,
whenever the last really memorable season that UCLA had I
was trying to pull up to. We have to go
all the way back to like the Cay to McNown years.
Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
I mean, is that is that?
Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
I mean, Ucla hasn't had a ten win season since
twenty fourteen, but even in that year they went to
the Alimable. But see, yeah, you gotta you gotta go
way back to whenever. Hey, it's kind of cooking. You're
looking at a top ten team. Jim Moore had him
in the top ten in twenty and fourteen. But I'm
talking about consistent, like back to back years when they
were top ten teams in ninety seven and ninety eight.
(01:17:37):
Thinking about some of the Terry Donahue teams, I mean,
those were those were squads that run that everyone was
getting behind. What Rose Bowl wins in you know, three
or four straight seasons? If yes to Bowl win mixing,
I mean we're going back to years it had the one,
the nine, and the eight in succession. But there is
a time whenever there was some jews to UCLA football.
(01:17:58):
But my goodness, Brandon, it's it's been a minute, and
it's shocking. It's shocking how long it's been. Because again
in your mind, you think, oh, it hasn't been been
that bad, has it. They haven't won a top they
haven't won ten or more games since they did in
thirteen and fourteen. They haven't been truly truly to a
New Year's Day Bowl game since nineteen ninety eight. When
(01:18:21):
I mean they have been to the Rose Ball since
ninety eight. It's unreal, unreal.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
All right? Hey, Stephen kse has checked in to put
a rap on hour two for us. What's going on? Stephen,
Kansas City? How are you man?
Speaker 8 (01:18:33):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:18:33):
Playing man?
Speaker 20 (01:18:34):
Good to hear your boys, then.
Speaker 8 (01:18:37):
That man football is back.
Speaker 20 (01:18:40):
Is a great day, you know, but it looks like
we have the dance of the blue bloods.
Speaker 19 (01:18:45):
The nil the nil.
Speaker 20 (01:18:49):
Hard soft slie hard camp has has eliminated Alabama's fifty
four game non conference winning streak. There's nothing better than
the spoiled Alabama fans jumping off, jumping off their rooftops.
But you think, oh you is next?
Speaker 16 (01:19:09):
Is it?
Speaker 8 (01:19:10):
Is? There?
Speaker 20 (01:19:10):
You getting nervous yet playing? You're getting nervous. A better
vetor sooners about uh getting rid of coaches?
Speaker 8 (01:19:17):
You know, it's I.
Speaker 20 (01:19:19):
Can't, I cannot believe how bad some of these some
of these schools looked. I mean, it's uh Texas, Uh,
it's the new quarterbacks coming in this this year.
Speaker 10 (01:19:33):
It was, it was.
Speaker 20 (01:19:34):
It was a great day if you if you if
you want the destruction of blue bloods, I think was
unless these quarterbacks could come through, you never want to
be the guy after after Saban. I mean, they're they're
they're gonna come. They're gonna come for the Canon, the war,
They're gonna come. They become for vtables. That's that's gonna be.
(01:19:54):
That's gonna be the season quarterbacks not producing and coaches
getting and all these guys getting fired. That's that that's
probably gonna be the theme the theme of this this season.
And Leek coursoh going to going away. I thought, I
wish you would have wrote out on Bibo. I wish
you would have wrote out on BiVO in the middle
(01:20:14):
of the middle of Ohio State. I mean, this is
going to be a great year if you're if you're
rooting against the destruction of all of all things blue Bluff.
Speaker 8 (01:20:24):
This is gonna be.
Speaker 20 (01:20:24):
This is going to be an amazing year that I
just got a feeling. I just got a feeling about this,
that that the the ni l Era is really going
to is really good at Boomerang and start destroying all
of all of Now, some people love the some people
love the Blue Bluffs. But it's gonna be it's gonna
be great for talk radio. It's going to be fantastic
(01:20:45):
for for talk radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Good even things.
Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
Hey Stephen Casey, it's great to hear your voice, buddy,
have a great weekend, all right, I am. I don't
know that I fully agree with you, because if you
look at the highest spin programs in college football, there's
Texas Tech, and then there's a whole bunch of blue bloods,
right Texas spent a lot on its roster. Ohio State
(01:21:09):
won a title with a twenty million dollar roster. Reportedly
Alabama has spent a lot on there. So I would
love to see the challenge. I think there is a
challenge to maintain and elevate, you know, blue blood status
every single year. But I don't necessarily know that we're
seeing the end of the blue blood. So it just
there's a lot more money to go around to, a
(01:21:30):
lot more good players, and a lot of places, you know.
I was thinking about Steven Casey's call during the top
of the hour, welcome in our three of the Bernie
Fratto Show. Our man Bernie's taking the night off. He
does this a lot before the start of the NFL season.
I've been blessed to sit in and heck, I ain't
sleeping anyway. It just keeps some me sober throughout the night, right,
(01:21:53):
and I love talking college football with you. So we've
opened up the phone lines, and I mean literally ran
it from about segment two on. We've just taken your
calls at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, and
I have a couple lines open if you want to
jump in, Henry, I'm gonna get right to you. I'm
sorry her, I'm gonna get right to you. But before
we do that, and before we hit the highlights, I
(01:22:13):
don't know that I agree with Steve. I need probably
a little bit more time and we need a little
bit more evidence. But think about the national championship winners
in college football in what you would.
Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Call the.
Speaker 1 (01:22:26):
Nil era, all right, and I'm not talking about the
teams that made the playoffs. Last year was the first
year in a twelve team system, twelve team format. We're
gonna have a twelve team format again in twenty twenty five,
and it's gonna be straight seating, which is gonna be
a little bit different. But in what you would call
I say I called the nil era, I think it
(01:22:49):
would start since twenty twenty doesn't count. Let's start in
twenty twenty one. Georgia, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State. Now, Georgia,
I think is in that category where people fight about
whether or not they're a blue blood. I'm not somebody
that gets too involved in those types of brawls. I
think Georgie is a blue blood, but that's for blue bloods.
(01:23:14):
Alabama one in twenty twenty blue Blood. LSU had the
Joe Burrow year. Clemson was kind of the modern version
of a blue Blood. I guess my question to you, Brandon,
Brandon Deisch running the show, Mark Ramsey is always on
the ones and twos. I don't necessarily know if the
nil era means we're coming for you, down go the
(01:23:34):
blue Bloods. I think it's tough to replace Nick Saban.
I think teams are finding out that it's still a
developmental sport and that you can't just while you can
go out and get really good talent.
Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
It all has to fit. You still got to coach it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:48):
I mean, Ohio State's a team then won a national
title last year with a very expensive roster, but also
lost two games in the regular season. They lost in
Oregon and they lost to their rival, they lost a
michig I mean, it's still, you know, a team that
needed to get hot at the right time to make
a run.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
But I don't know, Brandon.
Speaker 1 (01:24:07):
My off base here is this gonna end up being
with with the alleged salary cap, which I don't even
know if it's a thing anymore, is it going to
be harder for the blue Bloods to be as consistently
successful as they've been.
Speaker 5 (01:24:18):
Well, it depends which blue blood's who has the money.
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
You know, Ohio State, who's got a big, big booster.
Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
Ohio State still has all the money, right, so they
can be a blue blood and spend money and have
a legitimate title contender every single year. Texas. Same we
go down the list, LSU probably has some more money
and il wise than than Bama, Michigan ton of money
blue right, USC. I don't know if people would consider
(01:24:45):
them an old school blue blood probably right. I like Nebraska,
USC are still kind of in that in that realm,
but they're gonna be I'm telling you right now, I'm
not even trying to be biased, but they have so
much money, more money than God. They will be competitive
in competing for national championships within a few years, probably
even with Lincoln Riley. And you know why, it's because
(01:25:07):
they have the money. So I don't think I think
it's like it's a weird question, you know, it's a
it's a question. I think we can disassociate it, right
because with Alabama, with Alabama specifically as a blue blood, right,
they're not gonna have as much money as Texas. Texas
a and m or any of the big ten teams
that are that are going to be there at the top.
Right this the Ohio States of the world. The US
(01:25:29):
sees the Michigans, right. I wouldn't say it's the same
for all blue bloods, though, like Michigan's gonna have a
lot of money.
Speaker 5 (01:25:36):
I think LSU still has a ton of money.
Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
We consider LSU a blue blood or no, I see
I do, But then again maybe I just sometimes am
am a sucker for the blue bloods.
Speaker 5 (01:25:48):
I mean Miami, Miami has a ton of money.
Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
Are they considered a blue blood because of what they
did in the early two thousands and late nineties?
Speaker 1 (01:25:54):
Let me, let me here's the official college football list whenever,
whenever you just hypothetically google up blue bloods in college football.
The list features teams like alab Well and Andy Staples
did a thing on this not too long ago.
Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
He had different tiers of the blue bloods.
Speaker 1 (01:26:16):
But of the teams that were mentioned, Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Michigan, Texas,
they were the bluest of blue. Then there was like
a one B which was Florida, USC, Nebraska, and Ohio State.
And then there was a group of teams that they
considered fringe blue bloods Tennessee, Penn State, Florida State, Clemson, Auburn,
(01:26:38):
and LSU. And then there was a litany of programs
that included Georgia that were considered elite programs but just on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:44):
The fringe of a blue blood. I kind of liked that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
You know, It's like, hey, you can still call them
a blue blood. They're just not the bluest of blue
They're not those five teams in Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Michigan,
and Texas.
Speaker 4 (01:26:54):
I think it's more distinct in basketball too. Basketball it's
just like UCLA, Kansas, like we know blue bloods. I
think in football it's become different because Georgia has been
so dominant recently, LSU at a good season, right, Like,
it's like different like USC even though I'm a fan
of SC Like we have won a Natty in what
twenty years? Twenty some years, so in a minute, it's different,
(01:27:15):
right And the same thing with Nebraska and Nebraska a
great fan base, great culture. They have a lot of money,
so they'll be able to compete, right they have enough NIL,
but I still don't think they'll have the nil to
the level of you know, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Like
it's just gonna be hard to compete with those teams, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
And then you're gonna have a program every now and
then that might get a Cody Campbell. Cody Campbell for
those that aren't familiars, the big booster Texas Tech that
has spent a boatload of money. You might have even
at Texas to try to make Texas Tech relevant in
every sport. You might have, like what's happened in Michigan
(01:27:57):
where you got Portnoy in the in the billionaires, it
got together brought a contract to Bryce Underwood that swept
him up in the maze and blue And I'm just,
you know, I don't know. I don't know if there
is a way to say that these types of budgets
are going to be the end and spread the wealth
(01:28:18):
out more. I still think you're gonna end up year
in and year out with a lot of the same teams.
Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
And that's fine. But I like Stephen Casey, I like
the way you're thinking.
Speaker 1 (01:28:29):
I just don't know if I necessarily agree with it,
all right, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine ninety six sixty three.
Speaker 2 (01:28:35):
Sixth nine.
Speaker 1 (01:28:36):
I've promised some highlights. I've got your calls. I'm gonna
get herve in here. He's been patient in Long Island
and hell, it's four in the morning in Long Island,
so what's going on?
Speaker 20 (01:28:43):
Herb.
Speaker 2 (01:28:44):
Welcome to the program.
Speaker 19 (01:28:45):
Good morning, Chris. I'm a long time saying you and Arnie.
Speaker 8 (01:28:49):
I just relate to you that I went to a small.
Speaker 19 (01:28:52):
Division two school called LU Southampton, which is out of business.
Our main rival was was to be Post Colleges LU
Flora Lau Post and they got killed today by Florida,
so I'm happy for that. I just want to relate
to you that I'm sixty two years old. I'm Arnie's
age and on my twenty first birthday was the Raider
(01:29:15):
win against the Washington Redskins, and that was a happy
time for me. And I just want to let you
know that I met Arnie and my dad met Arnie
out in Long Island when he was on one on
one sports. And I love listen to you guys, thank you,
and I wish to talk to you on Sunday's but
unfortunate you guys don't take calls, so listen.
Speaker 2 (01:29:33):
Let me tell you something. Hi, that's a great point.
Thanks for the phone call. I appreciate.
Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
Now here's the thing, Arnie Spaniard, I'm sorry, started playing
my highlights here. I got real excited. Arnie will always
talk about how he wants to take calls, and he's like,
wish to tack calls every single time. We've opened it
up many times on Sunday night, many times we've done
that show together. For gosh, I want to say, it's
(01:29:58):
getting close to a decade. What is it, twenty twenty five. Yeah,
it's getting close to ten years that we've done that
show together. If not, I think it's longer now because
when I moved to Norman, we were doing the show together.
So probably close to eleven maybe twelve years that we've
worked together on Sunday nights. And listen, I'm a weirdo.
I don't like celebrating longevity. I just to at least
(01:30:20):
for me personally, it's like man, playing, how long have
you you and Arnie been doing the Sunday Show? I
know a couple of years, that's it, because usually you know,
that's that moment where someone looks at us like they've
been doing that for that long that's a pretty good run.
Maybe it's time to do something else. I don't like
to put that in people's minds, Herve, but every time
we've opened up the phones, we'll take two or three
(01:30:40):
calls and Arnie will get mad. He wants to hang
up on him right away. It's like the old one
on one sports day. He's all over again. It's not
good for him.
Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
But I I'm going to.
Speaker 1 (01:30:49):
Pose during the NFL season that we bring it back.
I think it might be fun a Sunday night caller
reaction show. That's what I mean. If there is one
thing that has completely disappeared from sports talk radio, it's
the influence of the callers, right, I mean outside and
it lives here on the overnights that have Big Ben Show.
(01:31:10):
Who are the Well Ben's the star of the show,
but the callers, right, I mean, I see you guys
fighting my mentions all the time. I mean, look, Mike
the Leprechaun, like five other people are fighting in my
mentions right now because of a ring.
Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
But and I miss it, so, Herve, you might be
onto something. We will have to in lazeing and Arnie's
memory though that the phone number is not one eight
hundred seven seven seven two.
Speaker 1 (01:31:36):
Nine oh seven. It is eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox. Not a bad idea, Not a bad idea.
Oh I'm so intrigued. I'm so intrigued by what Arnie's
major takeaways are going to be from week one. I
cannot wait.
Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
I know that he was just on with Aaron before
we hit the air, but we'll be all over it
coming up tomorrow night, right here on Fox Sports. Right now,
I keep saying tomorrow night. That's later on this evening
because it is ten p to one Central time. Okay,
I want to hit some of your tweets to the
program tonight. It's the best way to get in touch
with the show at Plank Show. That's at Plank Show.
(01:32:09):
Everyone else should follow us at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:32:12):
Basically everything everything on my Twitter feed right now are
people fighting over Ben Mallar's rings.
Speaker 2 (01:32:24):
Tim Wright.
Speaker 1 (01:32:25):
You know what else is going to be great this year?
Cry Baby Mahomes and Coconut Head Kelsey losing four divisional games?
Speaker 2 (01:32:34):
Can I say that? Is that a slur? Hold on?
Speaker 1 (01:32:38):
I got a look here? Okay, No, it was a
TV character and I'm gonna get I don't want to
get canceled on a fill in night.
Speaker 2 (01:32:46):
Have we reached.
Speaker 1 (01:32:48):
Have we reached a complete and total done with it
phase with the Chiefs? And I'm not a hater, I'm
an admirer of greatness. But esp yet, did we really
need a documentary on the Chiefs? I mean, what more
do we need to know? They're cramped on our throats
(01:33:09):
more than any team in the history of effort, and
understandably so they deserve it. They deserve it. But do
we really need a documentary on him? Do we really
need a mini series on Chiefs Kingdom? I mean I
still want to learn about the Wolf, the bank robber.
I mean, I get everything I need on Travis Kelsey.
(01:33:29):
He does a podcast. Okay, he does a podcast every
week with his brother. We know everything there is to know.
We don't need much more on Patrick Mahomes's got a
funny voice. Dude, can sling it. I don't know what
more we need to know about the Chiefs. Andy Reid's
a good guy. Guess why the Eagles fired him? Now
He's won three four Super Bowls with the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (01:33:48):
It's great.
Speaker 1 (01:33:49):
I mean, it's an obvious it's an obvious play off
of all the Taylor Swift stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
They're just trying to get more eyes. I don't. I'm
not anti chiefs. I'm just I'm tired of them being good.
Speaker 1 (01:34:04):
Let someone else be good, Kansas City, my Homes's time
for you to address other things in your life. Baby, retire,
go go be with the family. Scruffy Gray Gino fn
Smith Plank, Let's be realistic, bro.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
He sucks. Okay, everybody knows what happens. We know the
drill here. I'm not trying to say I'm better than
anyone that's not I am. I am at the core.
I am a dumb fan.
Speaker 1 (01:34:34):
I really truly am, and I'm gonna I'm gonna believe
that that phone number. By the way, this is just
something I learned in my younger years. I'm using it
as an analogy. So uh, anyone that goes to my church,
this is just you know, from my past. I'm one
of those people that believes that number the stripper gave
me is a real number.
Speaker 8 (01:34:52):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:34:53):
I'm one of those people that believes that the young
hot thing that invited us out for drinks did it
because she thinks I'm hot, not just because I'm gonna
buy all the drinks. Right, all these things are me
as a fan, right, they're me as a fan. So
I look at Geno Smith. I look at Geno Smith,
scruffy gray, and I don't see a guy that Seattle
(01:35:14):
didn't want anymore and they were ready to move on.
I saw a guy that was dropping dimes. I saw
a guy that just needed a little better offensive line,
a guy who needed a coach that believed in him. Which,
by the way, if any other team would have picked
up Geno Smith, I would be telling them and asking them,
what in the hell are you doing. But because it's
the Raiders, oh my gosh, it is the actual right move,
(01:35:40):
Larry D leading us right into our Michael Partson sawking
a bit. Jerry Jones had two plays with Micah Parsons
after they rejected the contract. Either shut up and play,
I have you for the next three years? Are trade him?
The only defense to allow more points last year than
the Cowboys was the Panthers. Do you know what I
(01:36:03):
gotta I gotta tell you something. I was shocked by
the trade. I really was, because I thought that if
you're Jerry Jones and if you're Steven Jones and you're
making this deal, I don't trade him to a team
in the NFC. I try to trade him to a
team like the Raiders or a team the AFC, where
(01:36:24):
you know, maybe there's an opportunity to have a higher
draft pick. Maybe those offers from those teams didn't include
a second first, maybe a second first dropt pick. Maybe
it was a second instead of a first to first,
it was a first and a second. I don't know,
but I wasn't. Mike Parks is really good and he
was the key to the Cowboys defense. But I mean,
(01:36:45):
it's funny because everyone who dogged on the Cowboys and
has made fun of him and how terrible they are,
they make a move where they choose not to pay
a guy, or at the very least felt like they
had a deal and it didn't work out. And I
mean the two first round picks and am a little
bit of an older defensive tackle, but a guy that
you can slide into that rotation now, I mean, he
(01:37:06):
could have done a lot worse. But I like to
see that there is a faction of Cowboy fans who
have started to look at this and say, oh, Okay,
maybe there's a chance this isn't as bad as we thought,
and then one more quick one before. Oh and by
the way, I didn't want to point out because my
man Mustang Mania had checked in earlier. Hey, no fears, bro,
I'm getting to your taken a bit because I absolutely
(01:37:27):
love it, and I see you happy for life as well.
I love you your takes on Michael Parsons. But when
we're all in on it next hour, I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
Get to him. It's really good stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:37:39):
But Trucker Joe, arch Manning, he's the son of the
lesser of the Manning brothers who didn't make it to
the NFL. What if the apple doesn't fall too far
from the tree, Trucker Joe, I still think I still
think there is a large fact action of sports fans
(01:38:03):
that think that Arch Manning is Peyton Manning's son. I
still think there is a large faction of sports fans
that truly believe that. But in that same vein every
single time you bring up, Hey, you know he's Cooper's son,
the defenders will tell you what ah, But I mean Cooper.
Cooper was on his way to an Ole, miss He
(01:38:23):
had a fully paid scholarship. Cooper was the man. Happens,
It happens sometimes you're just not all your hype to
be Now. I'm not here taking that now. That's not
me Texas fan. That's not me taking that victory lap today.
I'm not ready to because I think he's gonna be fine.
I just think that people that are tapping out after
(01:38:46):
one bad game against one of the best teams in
college football, against one of the best defenses in college football,
I think it's understandable that you might not be your
best in your first true start as the starting quarterback
for the Texas long Rues. I'm by no means giving
up on arch Man. I'll leave that to those of
you who decided to give him the Heisman Trophy before
(01:39:07):
the season started. It's gonna be a long road and
they got a tough schedule here early, but he gonna
be fine. In fact, Text's gonna go roll someone next week.
Arch will throw for like three hundred yards and people like,
see told you all right, Bernie's out, I'm Chris playing

Man, it's still amazing to me how much the night
flies by when you're locked in here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
I've looking down.
Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
We only got an hour and a half left in
the show, and I I always prep in different ways
to keep it fresh. Sometimes I use old school notebook paper.
Sometimes I'll type out like a Google doc. Today we're
liner cards for some reason that I had and I
I still have like twelve liner cards of different topics
(01:40:48):
that I want to get to. But we'll get to
your call to you at eighty seven seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six sixty three six'
nine BECAUSE i feel LIKE i feel like it's a
big reaction. Night you, know for those of us that, live, eat,
sleep and breathe college, football this is the first piece
of evidence we've had for how teams are going to
look this. Year so you don't want to get too carried.
(01:41:08):
Away you, KNOW i brought this up back in An
hour number, one but let's go back a year.
Speaker 2 (01:41:13):
Ago.
Speaker 1 (01:41:13):
TONIGHT i was sitting here For bernie probably selling you
on How dabo needs to, adapt How Dabo sweeney needs
to go out and attack the transfer, portal How clemson
is getting. Lapped, Well clemson did get crushed last year
in their open are sure they lost, tonight but they
still made the. Playoffs last. Year you, know we had
a three loss team in the, playoffs two loss teams
(01:41:34):
in the. Playoffs it's been an, ADJUSTMENT i think for
the college football, world because you can lose a game
and still find yourself in the. Playoffs you can lose
two games to still be in the playoff mix with
and most of us grew up well a with it
was the biggest crime you could commit to talk about
gambling on college football or paying a. Player it's still
(01:41:56):
getting used to that. Now, hey one loss is not
the end of the, world but not all losses are created.
Equal it's a bad loss For alabama tonight on the.
Road that's a really tough loss For clemson at. Home
Because clemson can still win THE acc and make the playoffs.
Easily but if they happen to, stumble this hurts Their
(01:42:17):
they don't have a great they get they Get South.
Carolina we'll see how Good South carolina can be this.
Year BUT i felt like that that really kind of,
stunted if not, completely stop the preseason hype On. Clemson great,
Atmosphere tiger, Fans Clemson tiger. Fans that was, Amazing but
just a couple of mistakes By kate Club nick and
(01:42:38):
tip your cap to THAT lsu defense that had been,
there that had been their achilles, heel that had been
where they. Struggled all let's go to the phones here
to put a rap on wrap on some college football.
Talk start diving into THE Nfl jackson is up In.
Seattle good, Morning, Jackson you're On Fox Sports. Radio what's going?
Speaker 8 (01:42:54):
On?
Speaker 19 (01:42:55):
Oh how you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:42:56):
That great?
Speaker 16 (01:42:57):
Man how are you doing?
Speaker 20 (01:42:59):
Well, actually you want to talk About Pete carroll coach
and The. RAIDERS i think that they actually have a
pretty good team. There they've Got Gino, smith which is
a question, mark but sure they got gent and a
good defensive good defensive, line which is something That Pete
(01:43:22):
carroll's always been, to you, know.
Speaker 14 (01:43:26):
Patriarch Of, YEAH i.
Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
Have a question for you real.
Speaker 1 (01:43:29):
Quick you're A seattle, guy, obviously what is the opinion
Of Gino? Smith kind of what if you could be
the spokesperson for The Seattle seahawks fan base, tonight help
me Understand, Jackson what is the overall opinion Of seahawks
fans On Geno?
Speaker 20 (01:43:43):
Smith, honestly is a bridge quarterback that maybe we'll throw
twenty five touchdowns and twelve interceptions every year and you
can get by and if you have a good enough
team around, him you'll make the. Playoffs but so that's a.
Speaker 1 (01:44:01):
Bridge isn't it crazy to think about his? CAREER i,
mean this was a guy that from two thousand and,
fifteen like we're going back a decade from twenty and
fifteen to twenty and twenty, one started a combined five
games in the, league and then over the last three
years had been the every game starter for The.
Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
Seahawks they with ten and seven last.
Speaker 1 (01:44:24):
Year SO i don't, Know i'm Just i'm curious if
his moving on to The raiders and him Following Pete
carroll the way that he. Did you, know he only
played in one playoff game In seattle and lost, It
BUT i don't, know was it a loss that you?
Lamented are you fired up About? Donald and maybe even
in the future With Jalen. MILROE i would say the
latter is Where seahawks fans are not really too upset
(01:44:44):
about Losing.
Speaker 2 (01:44:45):
Gino Oh we're.
Speaker 20 (01:44:47):
Not we're out In, seattle up in Southern, alaska we are.
Not we are not worried about Losing. Gino and to be,
Honest donald might be the bridge. Tomorrow like you just,
SAID i Think, DONALD i, mean we've got two receivers
that are just like uh freaking, Dogs, Jettas jettas and
(01:45:15):
the other guy they had.
Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
There but.
Speaker 20 (01:45:19):
Between cup And jas And Jackson smith And, JIGNA i
think he's got two similar targets that he had In. Minnesotas,
yeah he's got a chance to me be pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:45:33):
GOOD i am not a Big Sam darnald. BELIEVER i
think he got with a quarterback guru last. Year kind
of what's?
Speaker 7 (01:45:40):
He?
Speaker 1 (01:45:40):
Uh is the old saying caught lightning in a. Bottle
i've got a new cut That Brent vinables dropped the other.
Day that has become one of my favorite ways whenever
whenever people, ask, hey, man what do you think of that?
Speaker 2 (01:45:54):
Guy is?
Speaker 1 (01:45:54):
He is he going to be any? Good what kind
of player is? HE i just turned to What Brent vinibles. Said,
yeah he would be what you would call a.
Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
Dog he'd be what you would call a.
Speaker 1 (01:46:04):
Dog AND i kind of think that's What seattle. Has
and you, KNOW i, mean, Listen cooper cup has been
around the, block he's been there for. Years but In
Jackson smith And, jigba he's a. Dog now he gets
a chance to be the number. ONE i don't, know,
Man i'm not real bullish On, seattle BUT i am.
Intrigued i'm. Intrigue mike McDonald incredible job that he's done
(01:46:26):
over the first couple of. YEARS a Right josh is
In New. York what's going? On joshua On Fox Sports,
RADIO a right great.
Speaker 3 (01:46:33):
Show AND i talked To jet fans About Geno smith
and they kind of like just shake their. Heads they
don't even remember. Him, yeah if you want to get
a good draft choice or something, that then you make
him the starting.
Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
Quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:46:49):
Listen college football look With Ohio state, yesterday, Right so
these pre polls and everything is all. Nonsense hype is.
Hype you got to get out.
Speaker 10 (01:47:00):
There and do, it no matter what your last name.
Speaker 18 (01:47:02):
Is getting to the pros.
Speaker 3 (01:47:04):
Now and we know That Tommy DeVito's up In New
england now and he told Them i'm only going to
sign with a team that has Good italian restaurants within
fifty mile radius from the.
Speaker 17 (01:47:15):
Stadium and, uh.
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
This kid took a lot of heat from some of
the goofballs in the, media but when he was out,
there he was poised by you, know in the, pocket
he was very poisoned everything playing with an offensive line
that would be like a third stringer is in college,
football and just getting out of there with your life
out of there is what you really would. Want and
(01:47:37):
as far as The jets are, concerned, listen, listen come,
on field stinks and you're gonna tell me and Tell
i'm not A jet, fan but The jet fans have
to be straight shaking their.
Speaker 12 (01:47:47):
Heads but they got to be used to this kind of.
Speaker 18 (01:47:49):
Nonsense now the guy can't.
Speaker 3 (01:47:51):
Throw a screen, pass he's going to throw the ball,
downfield and they're praising this.
Speaker 10 (01:47:55):
Guy he's THE sa guys who would knock Been Tommy.
Speaker 3 (01:47:57):
DeVito so they just clown football all over In New,
york even though they play In. Jersey and with The,
jets it's just it's just it's just a team that
doesn't even when they draft, well the guys usually get
fed up and, uh they either get traded away or
they just stop playing. Good it's a horrible franchise run
By Woody, johnson who's just basically a. Clown you ever
(01:48:19):
see That necklacey wear that big giant golden. NECKLACE i,
mean what is he looking to? Do why does it
just buy MTT mtv and bring back.
Speaker 12 (01:48:27):
Like the Old Rock classics or something that.
Speaker 3 (01:48:30):
Did and, Listen brian the bolt head with The, giants
that's a scam that he could fix quarterbacks and the
biggest nonsense.
Speaker 8 (01:48:37):
Scam him and the other.
Speaker 3 (01:48:39):
Guy shame is they have the, Owner John, marrack who's
one of the guys From babs And. Butter they got
this guy, bamboozled all, right they haven't totally. Bamboozled they
never Like Tommy DeVito whatever scouts recommended him because he wasn't.
Speaker 10 (01:48:53):
Drafted he.
Speaker 12 (01:48:54):
Came he was a walk on on a pro. Camp
is pretty down good in.
Speaker 18 (01:48:57):
Itself so let's see what works.
Speaker 17 (01:48:59):
Out The.
Speaker 3 (01:48:59):
Giant i'm A giant, fan But i'm not going to
buy anything not. See brian the bonehead is just a, BONEHEAD.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
I, think so the call, MAN i appreciate. It, wow
he's a lot of angst and anger there from my
Man josh And New. YORK i will Say.
Speaker 1 (01:49:15):
Justin fields had the one good drive For jets fans
and then we had to hear about how it's a
new era and all he needed was another opportunity and,
Look Aaron glynn is changing the culture.
Speaker 2 (01:49:26):
Again we'll, see we'll.
Speaker 1 (01:49:28):
SEE i think the Day ball thing is fascinating to
me because it's almost as, if you, know he caught
some lightning in a bottle With Josh allen and the
time that he was there At, buffalo BECAUSE i, mean
historically things haven't always gone that well With Brian dable
as an offensive. Coordinator i'm sure there'll be a day
(01:49:48):
ball defender that could jump in and be, like, oh hold,
on he took The giants to a play he won
a playoff game With Daniel. Jones he's won more playoff
games Than kevin O'Connell has In. Minnesota what are you talking?
About BUT i think in this, INSTANCE i think THAT
i would side just a bit With josh And New.
York Both New york teams are gonna have a tough.
Year i'll say. This i'll say This, josh And i'll
(01:50:11):
say this To Giant giant. FANS i think that defense
is pretty. GOOD i think That giants defense is going
to get after some quarterbacks and if you can minimize,
mistakes AND i still think that that's Eventually Jackson dart
that's going to be the starting quarterback there this. Year
if you can minimize, mistakes which is much easier said than.
(01:50:34):
DONE i got to tell you, something, man be that
defense has a chance to be really Really.
Speaker 17 (01:50:40):
Hey how you?
Speaker 20 (01:50:41):
Doing oh good?
Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
Man just?
Speaker 21 (01:50:43):
QUICK i was going to talk about The patriots and
something From, boston BUT i started The cowboys, documentary.
Speaker 2 (01:50:50):
And what'd you Think?
Speaker 21 (01:50:51):
JONES i have to, SAY i was kind of, Surprised
Like Jerry jones like make himself very, likable but like you,
know because he just he comes from, oil you, know
he invested in, oil hit one rig made them all this.
Money and in this world with all these you know
(01:51:13):
kids you know taking over their father's companies or you, know,
teams not only what they're, doing it's a bit refreshing
to see if it's the old man still chugging along
AND i know he you, know made a, bad bad,
trade but it's like he's stuck in his ways.
Speaker 17 (01:51:30):
And moves anything.
Speaker 21 (01:51:31):
Else it's it's a bit. Wild it's a crazy, DOCUMENTARY
i have to. Say and just good. Questions Is Andy
furman And Arnie spaniards like the same person kind of
like they seem kind of both like you, KNOW i
love the one who is with Fucking. Brook he says
(01:51:53):
like crazy things And fucky is, like, okay wait a.
Minute fuck he is very you, know.
Speaker 17 (01:52:01):
It's.
Speaker 21 (01:52:01):
Great, yeah like he's like slow down a bit. THERE
i don't know if you, know so it's, YEAH i
had to say that BECAUSE i wasn't.
Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
Sure all, Right thanks for Calling.
Speaker 1 (01:52:12):
ANDREW i appreciate, It. ARNIE i work With Arnie spanier
Every sunday. NIGHTS i can confirm that he And Andy
furman are two separate. People, NO i would. Understand i've
worked with both of.
Speaker 10 (01:52:25):
Them.
Speaker 1 (01:52:27):
Andy it's Funny andy AND i, dude there were some
times in THE i think the best way to put
it would be like in the early early twenty, twenties
mid twenty, twenties twenty twenty one and twenty twenty, two
where they were were always kind of worried about what
you said and how it could be perceived or how
(01:52:47):
people could take. It And Andy addie would say a
few thinks, like ah my, man you're fired. UP i
don't know IF i agree with. That SO i can
feel you on What Bucky brooks has to go.
Speaker 2 (01:52:59):
Through.
Speaker 1 (01:53:00):
Arnie here's what you have to accept With. Arnie, okay
AND i say, This you just have to accept that
he is an out landish. Homer he loves his teams
through thick and, thin well as soon as it's a.
Thin that's whenever he turns on, him which is the.
Greatest miami lost a preseason, game and literally one Week
(01:53:21):
andrew after picking The dolphins to go to The Super.
Bowl The dolphins lost a preseason, game and we were
having or at least trying to pull him off the.
Speaker 2 (01:53:31):
Ledge he was like.
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
Ready to jump off a preseason game for goodness. Sakes
but Now Andy Furman Arnie spanier two separate. People nature,
boy Nature boy hits us, up, says the sinking genius
is your radio wife who doesn't want to take. Calls, no, no,
NO i here's here's His here's HOW i would describe.
(01:53:56):
It arnie likes the idea of taking phone, calls like
he likes the idea of everybody calling in and giving their.
Opinion it's just once he hears your, opinion he has
no time for. It that's that's that's kind of the
way they have to look At Arnie, jason the idiot
(01:54:16):
who sit in the tweet About Cooper manning not making
THE nfl and maybe that Means arch won't obviously doesn't
know That cooper was a wide, receiver not a quarterback
and stopped playing because he had a narrowing of his
spine so he had to stop. Playing don't people like
that do any research before they? Tweet if they don't
one hundred percent know all the particulars about the individuals
(01:54:38):
they're tweeting about why you're better man than? Me BECAUSE
i would have called that listener's idiocy and laziness out.
Well in, fairness JAY i did point out That cooper
was a wide. RECEIVER i just think some people truly
think That arch Is peyton's.
Speaker 2 (01:54:56):
Skin AND.
Speaker 1 (01:55:00):
I can't boy for someone who wasn't gonna do nil
and wasn't gonna take nil until after he became the starter.
Boy based on the commercials that were on during the games,
today aren't really took two? Nil ARN'T i mean really
took to?
Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
Nil.
Speaker 1 (01:55:16):
Eddie i've decided to only DO nfl plus this year
and settle for games on my six inch phone this
year UNTIL i hit the. LOTTO i might change my
mind if they'd get rid of Certain minnesota And rams.
Cheerleaders stop.
Speaker 10 (01:55:32):
Who?
Speaker 1 (01:55:32):
Listened what DID i just say about how we had
to be very careful about that in like twenty one
and twenty don't get me in trouble here. TONIGHT i
like doing this. Show oh, YEAH i had one more From.
Eddie if you Ask Ben, mallard he would tell you
That Gino smith is just a step Above Dieter. Brock,

think we've done a good job of mixing in THE. Nfl,
right everyone's got to have their chance to get an
(01:56:30):
opinion in on what we thought Of Jerry jones' move and.
Speaker 2 (01:56:34):
What it means for The.
Speaker 1 (01:56:35):
Packers and, sure we're gonna do a little bit MORE
nfl this, hour BUT i feel like we've got a pretty.
Speaker 2 (01:56:40):

somebody who as somebody who does never sleep after the
First saturday of college, football this has been a night
that has flown, by so there's no if you want
to get, in you're running out of. Time at eight
seven seven ninety nine On fox eight seven seven nine
ninety six six three six.

Six nine it's been a big nine on the text

Show At Fox. Sports RADIO but, I love i love
the excitement over The opening saturday of. College football now
that's unfair to say because it's not truly The opening
saturday of. College football we already have a game in,
the books a couple of games in the books from.
Last week but until college football decides to really do
(01:57:28):
something with that, opening week we'll just we'll look at
it at the GAME that i was as the WEEKEND
where I was state and won a game in terrible
field Conditions Over kansas state and for some reason the
biggest big twelve game maybe of the year that was.
Played overseas, but, today TONIGHT and i think the majority
of today is going to be about the three big
storylines from.
Speaker 2 (01:57:48):
College.
Speaker 1 (01:57:48):
FOOTBALL early i keep want to, SAY yesterday i guess is, Now, right, yesterday,
earlier earlier tonight doesn't.
Speaker 2 (01:57:55):
Fit anymore but the three.
Speaker 1 (01:57:57):
Big storylines from, college football of course. Number one it
all Started, In Columbus ohio, saturday morning whenever both teams
took a little bit of time to feel each. Other
Out Between ohio State, and texas it had all, the
hype all the pomp. And Circumstances league courso made his
final head gear pick and did so at midfield live
(01:58:18):
in front of the. ENTIRE stadium i was rooting as a.
Wrestling fan i'm a big. WRESTLING fan i was rooting
for the ultimate, heel turn Which. Was, corso uh let's
go back TO what i, first sack because his first
ever headgear pick was.
Speaker 19 (01:58:33):
Was.
Speaker 1 (01:58:34):
The buckeye Bruce, The buckeye and Almost said Bruce, to barber,
You know brduce.
Speaker 2 (01:58:38):
The barber Beefcake.
Speaker 1 (01:58:40):
Ed leslie but if you would have taken off, that
helmet that mascot heead and like thrown on a bevohead,
OR something i mean that place would have it would
have been the greatest heel. Move ever OH and i,
saw THIS and i think. It's true he didn't miss a.
Pick either courso did it miss a in his final?
(01:59:00):
Game day how? About that but one of the three
Big Stories ohio state taking Care of texas and Making
arch manning look.
Speaker 2 (01:59:09):
Very human and he Started With ohio state just committing to.
Speaker 16 (01:59:13):
The run fourth and goal with the ball Inside the
texas too handoff Goes to donaldson nice center the am
zone for. A Touchdown See jade donaldson followed. His blockers
he takes it into the end zone for his first
touchdown As, a buckeye his twenty fourth in his, collegiate
Career And ohio state on the, board first.
Speaker 1 (01:59:31):
And kind of thought it might become a little back.
And forth, all right here. We go offenses. Wake Up
but texas had a fourth, and goal couldn't get anything done.
With It and Ben arch manning does what young quarterbacks
do in tough.
Speaker 16 (01:59:44):
Road situations manning pivots to throw from his own thirty
six suits that up the right side of, the field.
Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
Intercepted By ohio state and stepping out. Of Bounds tremaine
matthews with.
Speaker 16 (01:59:53):
His second, career interception picking it off at getting the
ball right Around the texas thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
Yard line he picks Off. Arch manning yeah, and again
and what was a very low, scoring game we got
to take you all the way to the fourth quarter
Before Before ohio state really soon to put. The seal
seemed to seal the deal here.
Speaker 16 (02:00:14):
Sand in The check agun receives, the football fakes, a
handoff looks, to throw saying we'll pump that one deep.
Speaker 2 (02:00:19):
Down the, right side.
Speaker 16 (02:00:19):
Left sideline, Excuse me tate, with it take it down
in the end up for a Touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:00:23):
Carnal, taate yeah so so much to unpack from.
Speaker 1 (02:00:27):
This game Brandon, brand deutsch our Producer Obviously mark ramsey running.
The show my Name Is. Chris plankt sager has had
our updates throughout the. Night TONIGHT but i know there's
going to be a Lot of arch criticism that's going to,
take place and, understandably so probably mostly from the people
that put the unrealistic.
Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
Expectations. On him but he'll. Play WELL and i think
you got to give credit To The ohio.
Speaker 1 (02:00:53):
State Defense because. Brandon would we raised a banner Today,
in columbus celebrated a. National champion We Watched matt patricia
still have a pencil with a, laminated sheet which has
never really made any sense. To Me but East Saw
ohio state go out and take care. Of Business so
i'm not here To batch. Arch tonight i'm more here
to give a tip of the captain the defending, national champs.
Speaker 5 (02:01:15):
And again these are two of the three best teams in.
Speaker 4 (02:01:19):
The country, you KNOW like, I don't i don't understand
this notion Of after, texas loss Like oh texas is
gonna fall a ton in. THE rankings i don't think.
They should their defensive line. Looked fantastic they Limited The
ohio state to fourteen points on, you know on. The
road if you were to Tell me texas was Gonna
Limit ohio state to, FOURTEEN points i would have said they're.
(02:01:39):
Gonna win they're, gonna cover, you know like at least like,
a touchdown maybe even a. Field GOAL so, i, mean
again it's early in. The season like you, Mentioned, Earlier,
chris clemson they were covered all the way to where
they were ranked, like eighteenth and they WON the, acc
title and all of a sudden they're in the, playoff
game And then Alabama And south carolina get, left out
(02:02:01):
which you know we'll. Get in there'll be conversations toward
the end of the year of teams getting left out
because there's so MANY good Sec and big. Ten teams,
BUT yeah i think this is only a building block
for Arch. IN texas i think they go on a huge,
win STREAK and i think they don't lose another game
honestly UNTIL The sec.
Speaker 5 (02:02:18):
Championship.
Speaker 1 (02:02:19):
Game good i'm still a big believer In, uh tibeau
though some. People aren't You've Got brian burns on one
side who has become an. Absolute Dog abdul CARTER is
I Mean, abdull carter the top edge rusher in. THE
draft i really really think that's got a chance to
(02:02:40):
be a good defense. This year Only get cary away
and start calling it great, or ANYTHING but i think
it's got a chance to be. REALLY good i know
by the way they've built it through. The Draft dexter
lawrence first round pick, In nineteen mike McFadden fifth, Round
Pick abdul carter first. ROUND pick, i mean it's.
Speaker 2 (02:03:03):
It's a.
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
Good defense it's a. Good defense can their offense? Minimize
mistakes kim them a Chancia Is brian daball the. QUARTERBACK
whisper i don't think there is a. SUCH thing i
don't think there is a. SUCH thing i think some
coaches are smart enough to realize That They're patrick Mahomes Slash,
andy Reid Would andy reid be able to do this
with any other quarterback. Out there maybe he had success
(02:03:24):
With with, donovan McNabb but not to. This degree had
Success With, alex smith but not to. THIS degree i
think smart coaches are able, to, scout, see hey this GUY,
HAS x y z in tangibles that would work well in.
Speaker 2 (02:03:36):
My OFFENSE and i think working, with him, YOU know
i can fix the footwork here and do this with the,
arm angle it can make.
Speaker 1 (02:03:41):
HIM great i don't think that there is one universal
quarterback or one universal coach that can fix. Every quarterback, they're,
like oh he's a. Quarterback, whisper really how many quarterbacks is?
Speaker 2 (02:03:52):
He has he turned?
Speaker 1 (02:03:53):
Around one, that's good don't get, Me WRONG but i
think we throw that phrase around a way. Too Much
kyle shanahan was the, quarterback WHISPER and I Thought john
gruden was the. Quarterback whisper, all right we got time
for one more before. The break let's Go. To milwaukee
jason Is On Fox. Sports radio, What's? Up jason what's?
Speaker 6 (02:04:13):
Going?
Speaker 3 (02:04:13):
ON guys i would like to say thank You To
jerry jones For Trade michael parsons To The Green.
Speaker 8 (02:04:19):
Bay Packers the packer keepers were ready to get out
Of It cooper bowl Here, in wisconsin and we got a.
Speaker 13 (02:04:26):
World serious aspirations For.
Speaker 8 (02:04:28):
The brewers we are A reckelar. Wisconsin man?
Speaker 17 (02:04:31):
WHAT'S true.
Speaker 1 (02:04:35):
I think the proper phrase after that would Be? What,
rackham yeah, you know here's, the thing and appreciate your.
PHONE call i am a huge fan of a team
that never really seems to make the. RIGHT move I
mean i brought Up. The raiders they never seem to
make the.
Speaker 2 (02:04:53):
Right MOVE the.
Speaker 1 (02:04:56):
I can go all the way back to the Trade For,
richard seymour the Trade For, andy moss the free agent
Class That al davis went and spent a ton of.
Money on that was an. ABSOLUTE implosion I Think von
walker was in. That group just they always make the,
wrong move but at least they're trying to. MAKE moves
i mean even this year Trained For. Gino smith this
(02:05:17):
most recent deal to Go Get, kenny pickett even though
you're keeping a nocoddle on. The roster sorry not to
try to make your call About, the Raiders but i'm
just giving you. Some context you're a fan Of the
packers that don't always make a lot. Of trades they
don't make a lot, of moves they kind of they
kind of work a little, bit more and like if
you were to call it like a, development college, you
(02:05:38):
know in, other words Like like clemson to where, it's,
like hey we drafted this guy and we're gonna. Develop
them we're. Gonna velo he's gonna be. A packer he's
gonna be a Packer For live and they've hit gold
the quarterback position over the last twenty years from far
Up to rogers and, you know now it Looks Like
jordan love's gonna be. Pretty good but whenever a team
that's usually slow to go out and like really make a.
Speaker 2 (02:06:00):
Trade splash makes a splashy trade, like this it gets you.
Fired up as. A.
Speaker 1 (02:06:07):
Fan man i'd be calling and yelling and losing my mind,
as well Just like Jason and. Milwaukee did it's just
not part of their personality OF. Their dna they don't
make moves.
Speaker 4 (02:06:20):
Like this.
Speaker 1 (02:06:23):
And when you go get the, BIGGEST fish, i mean
this is this might be ONE of i was trying
to think of this before we hit the, air TONIGHT
but i was trying to think of the biggest Trades
in packers' history and kind of some of the moves that.
Speaker 2 (02:06:37):
They made, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:06:40):
You Had, reggie white but that was a free. Agent
signing this might be outside of the trade To Get.
Brett favre was that a draft pick trade away From The.
Atlanta falcons this might be one of the biggest deals
That The Green bay packers have ever.
Speaker 2 (02:06:54):
Made as far as the trades.
Speaker 1 (02:06:56):
Are concerned and it's got to make you feel pretty
good if You're a packer fan, right now Knowing how
niemik they've, been defensively knowing how much they need a
guy like this to go along with the rest of
their of. Their defense how it truly IS a i
mean a, glue piece a. Playmaking piece i'd be. Fired
(02:07:16):
up i'd be out of my mind. As well You
got rashan garyot one edge attacking the Passer With micah
parsons at the. Other edge, look out, all right when
we come back back to the phones, eight seven seven

Your call You're On Fox sports radio now that you're
really ignoring the greatest rivalry in college, football there at
least if you forgot, You know i'm Here, in oklahoma
brand at least act like YOU would picko you in.
(02:08:18):
That game, for now it's a very soft Schedule for texas.
This year they're two, biggest Games The red river Rivalry
against oklahoma and of course the Trip. To, georgia now you,
KNOW what i shouldn't say that the Trip to florida
looks very concerning NOW That dj lagway. Is healthy but
they're gonna be three and one going into that Trip. To,
Gaines right they're Gonna Beat San, JOSE state Utep And.
(02:08:40):
Sam houston, And again i'm not trying to be negative
Here at, Florida fans let's see HOW Healthy dj lagway,
can stay because we saw what happened last year when
you didn't. Have them But, after Oklahoma, It's Kentucky, Mississippi.
State Vanderbilt, after Georgia it's Arkansas AND texas A. And
m and we'll See WHAT texas A and m is by.
That point but you get that game, at home You
(02:09:01):
get arkansas, at home You get vanderbilt. At home schedule,
shakes up shapes up for them. Very nicely so that's
big story, umb one big short. Number two, all right
is this a Matter Of florida state being? For real
or is it panic Time? In tuscaloosa second and fourth
from the fourteen double wing set With douglasson pittman wing left,
wing right.
Speaker 2 (02:09:21):
Sawchuck down motions in the back of.
Speaker 1 (02:09:22):
The backfield two, Receivers right castellado scamp saw truck Quick
call TAN sodchuck cid start, to feet puts it the,
part forward put, the line.
Speaker 19 (02:09:38):
CRUs got a lamb cut that.
Speaker 2 (02:09:40):
Far to stake put.
Speaker 9 (02:09:41):
It out.
Speaker 3 (02:09:44):
What?
Speaker 2 (02:09:44):
A call what?
Speaker 1 (02:09:45):
A call On The Florida state, Radio network gavin sawchuck
the sooner transfer could not. Stay healthy just couldn't stay Healthy.
At oklahoma good to see him having a big moment
in the opener That Put florida state up thirty one,
to seventeen and that's where it.
Speaker 2 (02:10:01):
Would stay one last step by bommy castle.
Speaker 14 (02:10:05):
On us he.
Speaker 9 (02:10:06):
Talked the top and he walked.
Speaker 8 (02:10:08):
The lock he goes over and hunts. His head Coach
my coca and the father started.
Speaker 2 (02:10:13):
A boo let's hire Of the lord's hand and plant
the spear those when.
Speaker 8 (02:10:19):
Those win nobody gave us football team a son of
this one from the unconquer spirit of the Seven.
Speaker 2 (02:10:26):
Old cavail, once again Town goes bama.
Speaker 8 (02:10:30):
The Final florida state thirty One down.
Speaker 2 (02:10:33):
Labama seventeen what a Win for.
Speaker 1 (02:10:35):
NORMOS knows i Give Give, jeff colhane the play by
play Voice Of, florida state, my guy give him all.
Speaker 2 (02:10:42):
The flowers that's. Big time that's big story. Number two
what are we looking? At here in?
Speaker 1 (02:10:49):
Your opinion are we looking at, an Underappreciated Underrated florida
state team that just had everything go wrong that could
possibly go wrong last year and some and now they're
loaded and ready to make a run as a more
power running based Offense With tommy castiano's running. The show
did we just sleep on them all off season and
(02:11:11):
they're Here? Or Brandon is alabama in big trouble? This
YEAR because i Don't think alabama's suddenly gonna have a
losing record like some of you have brought up on the.
Phone TONIGHT but i do THINK that i do think
the problems go beyond just Losing To. FLORIDA state i
think this could be something that ends up costing him
(02:11:33):
a few more games, this year not to the Degree
That florida state had last Year. For ALABAMA but I
just i, don't, KNOW man i think this sounds more
alarms for Me about bama than it does Build Up. Florida,
STATE well i Still Trust ryan Grubb and debor to get.
In too i'd, Be shocked chris if they lose more
than two games, this season honestly UNTIL The sec, championship
(02:11:54):
GAME like i think they will win two out of
three or three out of Four, Of, Georgia.
Speaker 5 (02:12:00):
Tennessee, south Carolina.
Speaker 4 (02:12:01):
And oklahoma, i'm sorry hopefully the Loss is oklahoma there
and they Go into georgia and They. Beat GEORGIA but
i do think that they're gonna recover because this is
a similar team the, last YEAR except i feel like
they kind of have more juice in a sense, this
year even Without mil row and without a few Guys
(02:12:22):
like procter needs to get better ON that. O LINE
their d line is a work. In PROGRESS but, i think,
YOU know I Trust. RYAN grubb i think it's just
it's just. GETTING started I Think florida state might actually.
Speaker 2 (02:12:32):
BE good i hope.
Speaker 1 (02:12:34):
YOU'RE right i think college football is a little bit
more Fun When florida state. Is good you've got a
lot OF very i guess you could say polarizing media
personalities That Are florida state people looking, At, You, danny
danny kaneal. Among, others right it's a VERY and, I
Hey florida, STATE fans i say this with peace. And
(02:12:56):
love it's very polarizing. FAN base, i mean they they're
ready To get they might be mad at me for laying.
OUT that i think this might be more About how
alabama struggled than it Is What florida. State did but
it's hard to ignore How well brandon they run the
football and how well they ran. It tonight now he
got it in. Some Ways Keep gavin, sawchuck healthy because
that's been his. Biggest PROBLEM but i don't know, about,
(02:13:19):
You man i'm ready to jump on that boat if
you want to say that you think they're gonna, be
good and you think this might be more.
Speaker 2 (02:13:25):
About them i'm not here to argue with you too
terribly MUCH because i want to. See.
Speaker 1 (02:13:29):
THAT man I Want florida state to. BE good i
want to be in my fields about my childhood all, over,
Again Right. CHARLIE ward i want to be thinking About
The jamis winston in the most. RECENT round, I Mean
florida state is one of those programs that when, they're
good it's good for.
Speaker 4 (02:13:45):
College football one hundred percent of their schedule is not.
TOO difficult, i mean they have an. Acc schedule they Do,
play clemson and they Do. Play miami Besides, in florida
besides those, three Games It's, Kent State, Virginia, Pitts Stanford,
Wake Forest, virginia TECH N. C State and i'm not
saying any of those Games are i'm Not gonna i'm
(02:14:05):
not gonna say all of those games, are easy right
because Any, given saturday right Like the new Show. On
NETFLIX but i think they if they Can, beat miami let's,
just say let's say they go because that's a, HOME game. I,
Believe right let's say They. Beat miami then we're looking
at a five To Oh florida, state, team right and
then they Go into pitt and They Beat eli Holstein,
(02:14:28):
and pitt and then they Go beat stanford and there's
seven eight to oh all of a sudden Going. To
clemson that's a legitimate possibility at worst seven and one Going.
Speaker 5 (02:14:36):
Into, clemson.
Speaker 1 (02:14:38):
Truly, look out. Look out can you imagine what that
would be like just from a college football purist perspective
to have that game. Mean something now We're not i'm
getting a little bit carried away here because we're not
too terribly far Removed From florida State and clemson still
being a. BIG deal, I Mean florida state was in
(02:14:59):
the national championship hunt three years ago And Then jordan travis.
Got hurt, You know i'm not trying to sit here,
be like, oh lordy what happened? To, Him, no No
they're i'm not trying to say that they've been off,
the maps so don't. Get noticed i've been Bit By
florida state. Fan before so That's why i'm giving all these.
Asterisk precursors All, these hey they're they're. They're angry imagine
the malord militia at times. Like Ten That's florida state
(02:15:21):
fan man a lot. Of, respect well And also alabama
we got to think about. Like this they were put
in Instead Of, florida, state right so this game meant
it extra times than it ever, would have.
Speaker 5 (02:15:33):
You know and then the Quote, FROM.
Speaker 1 (02:15:35):
Cassade I think i didn't even think. About that that's
the First time i've thought about that since you brought.
Speaker 4 (02:15:40):
It, up yeah isn't. THAT crazy i feel like people
are kind of overlooking that. Like that that meant a
lot To This florida state team and especially their. Head coach,
you know where they felt they. Were undefeated they got, left,
out uh you know because their quarterback, Got, hurt TRAVIS
and i feel like they took some of that juice
into this game and it was extra jeal.
Speaker 1 (02:16:00):
Like that i'll add one. MORE thing i think part
of me adds a little bit extra umph to this
today from Just A florida, state Perspective where, i'm like oh,
my gosh the back this is.
Speaker 2 (02:16:11):
SO great.
Speaker 1 (02:16:14):
I didn't know how long it would take them to
recover from. LAST year i mean that that kind of.
Stuff stings it can bring a. Program down, you know
you you have a season that, fell apart like, last
year a coach who after what a one loss season
(02:16:34):
ends up on the. HOT seat, i mean that's just
that shows you how quickly you can go from penthouse,
to outhouse from upstairs to the to. THE gutter i
mean it's just that's that's how quickly and how fine that.
LINE is i think the fact that they were able
to do this with, you know the work they did in,
the portal the job that, they did, you know and
(02:16:55):
kind of recreating their attack offensively Here, for so that's.
BIG story i guess you could say number two from
college football's opening night. Big story then Three was clemson
not being able to hold on to its home. Field
ADVANTAGE and i pulled this Cut. FROM dabo i want,
to Play, BUT brandon i like what you've been saying
(02:17:17):
throughout the Night On. Kate klubnick he's had moments throughout
his career where you watch him and, you're like, dang.
Speaker 2 (02:17:22):
Man this is. A dude this is.
Speaker 1 (02:17:24):
The dude but more often, than not in some of these,
big games he just hasn't been, that guy and KUDOS
to lsu and what they, Did DEFENSIVELY but I Thought
kate klubnick was a tough.
Speaker 4 (02:17:34):
Watch tonight not Just. THAT chris, i mean this is
not like he doesn't have. Any receivers they're. First round
there's a first round receiver that he has. Right there
there are some good. Linemen there They have westco another.
Good receiver this is one of the most complete teams in, the,
country right not just on the defensive side of. The
ball We Know peter WOODS. And tj parker and everybody, like,
(02:17:55):
that right but on the. Offensive side they're possibly the
most dynamic team in, the country or should, have been
right at least in. That conversation we were talking about
quarterback and, everything combined and they looked non existent the.
Entire game so either LSU's defense is absolutely world class
and they're going to go To The national championship game
(02:18:16):
and Go or clemson is just having. Another look expectations.
Are high we're going to start the season, off slow
and then once we. Get rolling this is not a
train you're gonna want to try. And stop they're gonna
keep going and going. AND going i wouldn't be Shocked
if clemson doesn't lose another game Until the national.
Speaker 1 (02:18:35):
Championship, Game Well dabo sweeney trying to keep. Hopes alive
here was his thoughts after the seventeen to ten LOSS. To,
LSU well i guess maybe more than anything else would
help about actually plugged.
Speaker 22 (02:18:48):
It in what, an awesome awesome environment. That was it,
was special had so many former players. Here too it
is great to see a lot of, those guys and,
you know certainly disappointed that we didn't get it done,
for him, but man the crowd, was awesome the environment,
was awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:19:07):
Beautiful night it was a.
Speaker 22 (02:19:09):
HEAVYWEIGHT fight, i, mean listen that's that's that's that was
just simple, as that just a Heavyweight, heavyweight uh you
know fight as far as a, football game and, you
know just a couple of plays and they made a
couple more plays than we did and we made a
couple more critical errors than.
Speaker 2 (02:19:24):
They did and in games, like that that's that's usually. The,
difference yeah, He's right.
Speaker 1 (02:19:29):
He's right there's gonna be a lot of knee jerk
giving up on. ON teams I think Clemson is. Clemson's
won people going to tap Out on Clemson on clemson's
not all THAT good i don't necessarily know that it's
going To. Be texas you're going to see a lot
of tapping Out On Arch, manning man, you know even
maybe to a, Certain, DEGREE alabama, i think don't do you?
Get This since alabama, CAN recover. I do i don't think.
(02:19:53):
THEY can i think it's. A guarantee they will just
have too much talent to. Hot take so, to me
that's three teams that are going to be given up on,
all right two teams and. A player the people are
going to just dog and not in a, good way
and they all have a chance to be right there at.
Speaker 3 (02:20:11):
The.
Speaker 1 (02:20:11):
END gosh i love college FOOTBALL and i LOVE and
i know we got A. Break mark i'm sorry super long.
And listen if you're, on hold hang right. IN there, I,
Do nick nick. Hanging there i'll get right to you
when we get back at eighty seven to seven ninety Nine.
Speaker 2 (02:20:23):
On fox but it's it's a. Hard learn it's a
hard because it's.
Speaker 1 (02:20:29):
COMPLETELY different i joke about it all the time on
the air that the very first time ever did a
sports radio show nineteen, NINETY seven i talked about gambling
and a, point SPREAD and i even had a guest on,
that was, you know one of the one of the
one nine hundred bookies back in. The Day and i'll
never forget my boss pulling me down in the office,
(02:20:49):
and saying you do not talk about gambling or spreads
on my. RADIO stations i remember the first time we
ever kind of made a joke about paying a football
player on. THE air i got a phone call from.
The university, He's, like hey you can't joke with that player.
Speaker 2 (02:21:04):
About that.
Speaker 1 (02:21:04):
You can't you can't even make an assumption. About it
you're gonna get. In trouble you're gonna get him. In
trouble and to.
Speaker 2 (02:21:10):
See this world that we're, in now it blows.
Speaker 1 (02:21:12):
My mind so with that set and applying it to
the new era of, college football it's a complete and
toll of mind bleep for those of you who felt
like you needed to go undefeated in order to be
a good college, football team because that was the way
of the land from the eighteen Hundreds when Minnesota and
yale's winning titles to the now you lose the game,
like oh and now with a twelve, team playoff, it's
(02:21:34):
like wait, a, minute here he lose cup and, BE okay,
i mean let my dobber get too down after a
non conference, tough loss will. Be okay and That's where
alabama fan is, Right now clemson fan is, right now
How we'd texas fan is. Right, Now hey we're gonna,
be okay and we'll see which one of those three
(02:21:54):
is able. To recover all we got. A break when we,
come back we'll get. Your calls we really haven't touched
On The micah parsons topic as MUCH as i. Want tonight,
and oh you guys have been awesome on the tweets all.
Night long we'll hit.
Speaker 2 (02:22:06):
Him next.
Speaker 7 (02:22:06):
Right Here Fox sports radio has the best sports talk
lineup in. The nation catch all of our shows At
foxsports radio dot com and Within the. iHeartRadio APP search
fsr to listen Live On Fox.
Speaker 1 (02:22:19):
Sports radio, all right It's The Bernie fratto show Here
On Fox. Sports radio there's these moments where we're having
our conversations during the BREAKS and i. Almost forget, it's,
like oh we got a show that we. GOTTA do
i gotta line. And open if you want to jump
into eight seven seven ninety Nine, ON fox I know i. Made,
him Wait is Nick And augusta main still?
Speaker 8 (02:22:40):
In?
Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
THERE nick. I apologize Welcome To Fox, sports. Radio buddy what's? Going?
On yeah how?
Speaker 7 (02:22:46):
You?
Speaker 17 (02:22:46):
Doing?
Speaker 2 (02:22:46):
Great man how are you?
Speaker 8 (02:22:48):
So great show is always you tell the truth.
Speaker 18 (02:22:52):
And that's all we ask, for you and keep telling
it because. It works people want to hear. The truth
that may not, like it that they want to. Hear
it so here's here's, my TAKE and i need a
little bit of tether from, For. YOU frost, I mean i'll.
Speaker 2 (02:23:09):
GIVE you.
Speaker 18 (02:23:11):
I think russ could be okay In the giants Offense
with Neighbors and slayton decent Tight End. TRACY skataboo i
think the offense may be, more Tailored and i'm wondering
why he's not in the peching Order To. Jameis WINSTON
(02:23:33):
and i know he plays, THE ball i, get IT
but i think Him and neighbors could.
Speaker 10 (02:23:37):
Be special.
Speaker 18 (02:23:39):
And Everybody wants jackson dark let the. KIDS shit, I
mean i think she's gonna, be okay but that fall
him in there with the four the first four Games if,
Russ Falters so i'll hang up and listen to. YOUR
take i know you'll tell. The truth, thank.
Speaker 2 (02:23:59):
You sir, All right i'll do. My best YOU know
i am a big Believer In, jackson dart and maybe
part of my take is shaded. By that.
Speaker 1 (02:24:14):
Part of The reason i'm such a big Believer In
jackson dart Is because i've stood next to him physically
RIGHT was i was on the Field And jackson DART
was i mean like literally warming Up.
Speaker 2 (02:24:28):
And i'm there doing. THE sidelines i didn't realize how
big of a. Duty is, you know he is, a HOSS.
Speaker 1 (02:24:36):
And i guess maybe from my perspective that doesn't always
come ACROSS.
Speaker 2 (02:24:41):
ON tv.
Speaker 1 (02:24:43):
I didn't, you know quarterbacks always seem to look a
little smaller, to me but then when you stand next
to some of them. IN person i standing Next To
jackson dart was was jaw dropping.
Speaker 2 (02:24:53):
FOR me i, was like whoa? This is This is
legit wasn't wasn't.
Speaker 1 (02:24:57):
So impressed LIKE whenever i Was covering oklahoma and stood
next to two and it's not, a knock it's just
physically they look a little bit more like a. Normal
Person jackson dart kind of looks like he was made
in a bit of a. Quarterback lap not as tall as,
you want but just, you know he's. Thicker dude so
part of my push, to, say hey go Get Get jackson.
Speaker 2 (02:25:19):
Dart in there IS because i am such a big believer.
IN him i.
Speaker 1 (02:25:24):
But the BEST path i don't know, About, you BRANDON
but i think the best path For the giants to
have a successful season would probably be for us to
stay healthy and Allow Allow jackson dart to only have
to come in in an. Emergency, situation right you also
have you Know a JAMIS so i mean he's still,
There TOO but i. DON'T know, I mean i'd like
To See jackson. DART play i think it would be
(02:25:47):
good For the giants To Have jackson. Dart play but
how about this for playing both sides, of it you
credit me for telling. The truth i'm totally riding the fence, On.
This nick i'd like to see, him PLAY but i
would completely understand why they might try to quote unquote red.
Shirt him, you know if You, got russ got a,
good defense able to get after, the quarterback find a
(02:26:09):
way to maybe run, the football take, your time don't
have to rush him, in there because it's not like
you're gonna Win The super bowl anyway, this year and
your best chance to have long term success is with
that dude that you took in the.
Speaker 4 (02:26:19):
First round this is gonna be a. Hot, Take, Chris oh.
I'M ready i Would Start jackson dart.
Speaker 2 (02:26:25):
Week. One OKAY like, I said i'm not opposed, to It.
Speaker 4 (02:26:28):
And i'm typically a pro sit the, rookie behind, you
know the veterans type. Of Guy But jackson dart has
how many careers starts in, college play like four or,
five years and you look at the trend in the
history of guys that have played that many games in College,
Brock Perty, jane Daniels, BON nicks i think he's probably
(02:26:48):
more ready than. PEOPLE think i think that's the same
case With. CAM ward i think they might just.
Speaker 2 (02:26:54):
Be good from. The jump forty five that's all that
he's played. In college.
Speaker 1 (02:27:01):
FORTY five i mean that's for a quarterback that you
took in the. First round that's. A lot, You're Right
So i'm i'm in. That camp i'd love To See
brian dabel come out, and say you, know what. We've
decided we're Gonna Have. Russ minner we're Gonna Let jackson.
Darbar quarterback he's gonna learn as, the. Pilot right but
(02:27:24):
what we're more apt to see is that he's gonna
learn is.
Speaker 20 (02:27:28):
It's.
Speaker 1 (02:27:28):
Terrible analogy but he's gonna learn it's the, co pilot
and it's Gonna be there's gonna come, A time, i
think where there's gonna be a big decision to, be
made big decision to be Made In new york about,
all right we're sitting here at two, and two one,
and four whatever it. Could be are we really going
anywhere if we continue? With this and maybe the best
(02:27:49):
path for all of us to keep our jobs and
all of us to prove that we're heading in the
right direction is to turn to, darn is to turn.
Speaker 10 (02:27:57):
To this but.
Speaker 2 (02:27:58):
WE'LL see i guess it's a matter of How Good
brian dabole thinks his. Roster is.
Speaker 1 (02:28:04):
All right final call of, The night final call of,
the night and it brings me so. Much joy jerome Is.
In charleston Let's. Go jerome You're On Fox. Sports radio what's,
Up man.
Speaker 8 (02:28:16):
Michigan, At oklahoma that's?
Speaker 2 (02:28:18):
What's up, Come, on jerome come.
Speaker 7 (02:28:21):
To.
Speaker 8 (02:28:21):
Town michigan, look outstanding you know for the first half
against uh who Who Is?
Speaker 2 (02:28:28):
New, mexico.
Speaker 8 (02:28:31):
Yeah didn't look out but Hey. Never, minch anyway that's
gonta be a heck of a META because i can't
wait and see what kind of Game plan venables are
gonna come, up With because alabama came to town last
year and they left with the tamp between, the LEGS
and i like underwent BETTER than I. Like, manny okay
he's eighteen. Years old wait till you stand Next. To,
(02:28:53):
hell yeah that guy's like. Out man he's got all kinds,
of Records and i'll tell you they Gotta Go high
state's gotta Go. TO michigan i think. This, year oh
you Can't, lose tom you can't lose. That game you
can't lose. That gift but he. Looks outstanding she might
be the best one he's had there for a. Long
(02:29:15):
TIME so i can't wait. For that Michigan AND oklahoma
a guy waits to available comes up With because michigan
they got the explosive and they got, a, big strong.
Fast QUARTERBACK so i can't wait and see that one.
Speaker 1 (02:29:30):
Next week come come watch it, with me drum Get. To,
Oklahoma baby thanks for the.
Speaker 2 (02:29:34):
PHONE call i. APPRECIATE it i don't have. ANY room,
i mean you can sleep on, the couch but we'd
have a good time at, the game that's.
Speaker 17 (02:29:42):
For.
Speaker 1 (02:29:42):
Sure, yeah, hey, guys listen remember all those great games we,
Had today remember the excitement. We've, Spent, Hey brett we've
spent four hours talking about. HIM tonight, i mean we
had A Little, michael parsons but it's been four hours
of college.
Speaker 2 (02:29:55):
Football talk as it's. Been great it's been great Thinking, ABOUT,
clemson lsu talking about all these top.
Speaker 1 (02:30:03):
Ten, games okay go look at next. Week's, schedule now
will You get Oklahoma? And michigan and that's pretty? Much
It and oklahoma wasn't even ranked in one of the. Preseason, polls,
yeah hey speaking, Of that i'm trying not to be.
Rankings GUY but I wonder i think you brought this, Up.
EARLIER brandon i wonder How much texas will be made.
(02:30:24):
TO pay i wonder How much alabama will be made.
To PAY and i wonder How much clemson will be made.
To pay in, Other words tech. YOU can't, i, Mean
obviously texas isn't gonna stay. NUMBER one i Don't think
clemson's gonna stay in the, top five in the top
five OF. The AP and i Wonder if alabama's gonna
fall all. THE way, I mean alabama's gotta fall down
at least, seven, Spots, RIGHT.
Speaker 4 (02:30:46):
Yeah I think alabama falls. THE most I think texas
only moves down. To, five, OKAY truly i don't think
they fall. PAST that i think what's gonna happen is
this might be also an, unpopular OPINION but i think
They Move ohio state, to one even though it Should Be.
PENN state i think they are going To Move ohio
state to one after beating the number one team and.
BEING third i Do think alabama like goes they're probably like,
(02:31:10):
seventeen eighteen nineteen. Twenty range clemson will only fall.
Speaker 19 (02:31:14):
To.
Speaker 4 (02:31:14):
Eight, NINE yeah i THINK you're lsu probably goes up
to four. Or five georgia goes. To three it's kind
of how it's. Gonna roll and.
Speaker 2 (02:31:21):
Then there's a lot to be determined by what happens
In That Miami notre. Dame game, oh. Yeah Yeah If
notre Dame or, miami, roll hey they could. Shoot UP
but i think shoot up. The charts make sure. That
CLARIFICATION but i think. BE right I Think ohio state
is going to be number one in. Both polls, but
yeah you look ahead the next week in, COLLEGE football
(02:31:42):
i wish we could have a little bit. Better balance
but the top twenty five matchups are few and. Far between,
in fact. There's one, there's one And it's Oklahoma. And
Michigan and i'm not.
Speaker 1 (02:31:56):
Complaining about it because it's the GAME that i get,
to COVER and i dig. It whenever the kind of
center of the college football world is right in my
hometown OR where. I live but there is Some gross
so while we've been sitting here bragging all night tonight
about greatness of, COLLEGE football i can sense the excitement
(02:32:17):
Over That Florida International penn state game bruin. Right, NOW
oh i see you on the edge of your seat
For next Saturday Morning San, Jose state. Texas game how
About When kinesau state travels to Take, on indiana or That,
Vaunted Grambling ohio state matchup. Next week there are some interesting,
games though beyond just top twenty. Five numbers next to
(02:32:41):
The Squad, Arizona State mississippi state. FASCINATING again i can
nerd out on this.
Speaker 2 (02:32:47):
FOR hours. I won't i'll. Spare you you're trying to
get up. And around you don't need me.
Speaker 1 (02:32:51):
Boring you with My Man jeff levy fighting for his
job and basically saying we're heading in the.
Speaker 2 (02:32:56):
Right direction we're going in the.
Speaker 1 (02:32:58):
Right direction they got Beat By arizona state last year
kind Of Launched kenny dillingham And The. Sun Devils Could
mississippi state steal some of that energy? Next week how
about the Fact That south florida just came off one
of the most Amazing opening thursday wins that we've seen
Day Smoked.
Speaker 2 (02:33:17):
Boise state they're Going to Gainesville.
Speaker 1 (02:33:20):
On saturday, and oh by, the way we say only
one matchup of, Ranked teams who's To Say south florida
doesn't jump into the top twenty five we start conference PLAYING.
Speaker 2 (02:33:28):
The Sec ole miss is Going.
Speaker 1 (02:33:29):
To kentucky i'm old enough to Remember What ole miss
got Beat by kentucky, last year derailed their.
Speaker 2 (02:33:35):
Playoff Hopes oklahoma state starting quarterback broke. His foot.
Speaker 1 (02:33:38):
He's out they're Going, To eugene oregon to Play the ducks,
next week a team that not much has thought of
In the, big twelve but yet has always found a
way to. Be competitive we'll See What mike gundy has up.
His Sleep The sihawk Iowa And iowa. State Again iowa
state's two and zero and has a great Win Over
(02:33:59):
kansas State in ireland dominated today can they continue their
recent run of Success against Iowa and illinois's traveling To.
PLAY duke i don't Know how illinois ended up having
to Play, In Durham, north Carolina But luke altmeyer and
the FIGHTING alna i got off to a good Start Destroying.
Western illinois but that's. Fun matchup it's a. Fun matchup
(02:34:21):
one of the most highly coveted quarterbacks in the Portal Was,
darien mensa and for, a Time Before carson beck signed
his Deal, With Miami darien minsa was the highest paid
quarterback in the. Transfer Portal darien minsa Transferred from Tulane.
To douke so whenever, you hear oh, my gosh next week's,
(02:34:43):
slate sucks, ALL right i. Get it but if you
just dig it a little, bit deeper there's some. Good
Drama and i'll tell YOU what i think is a big.
Game too BAYLOR at smu, is. Huge Huge dave randa
is fighting for. His job he's instilled himself as the
defensive coordinator. This year he's drinking nine cups of coffee.
(02:35:04):
A day nine was there a? Nine er he's drinking
nine cups of coffee. A day they lost their opener
when they got Worked by auburn because it looked like
they never adjusted to the.
Speaker 2 (02:35:14):
Run Game, dave randon they were running the football. Adjust
buddy but.
Speaker 1 (02:35:19):
Now they've got to PLAY an smu, TEAM that i
mean looked playoff worthy in week, number one and some
think they're a favorite to end up back in the playoffs.
This year there's a lot of good games. Next week
it's gonna be a, fun one. All right when we,
come back we'll put a rap with your tweets and
some final Thoughts For.
Speaker 2 (02:35:37):
Bernie Frattle i'm. Chris playing This Is Fox. SPORTS radio
i was, gonna, SAY oh i can tease it to
the show.
Speaker 1 (02:35:47):
Later, Tonight okay i've got a question for, You Guys,
brandon mark. You're ready i'm obviously going to crash like
most people probably do after this show On the West
the central time zone On the. East coast, good, morning
everybody And it firman's coming. Up Next but i'll be
back later on this Evening With arnie spanier from ten
(02:36:09):
p to One a. Central TIME and i want to
throw this Out because i'm very intrigued by Our conversation
brandon tonight over the losers the teams at. Loss today
SO if i were to put a poll up and
say who's more likely to? Bounce, Back alabama Texas, or
clemson is it a fair point, to say based on our,
conversations tonight that we.
Speaker 2 (02:36:30):
Believe all three are going.
Speaker 5 (02:36:32):
TO easily i think it's. All, three mark what are?
Speaker 9 (02:36:39):
YOUR thoughts i agree At least bama will.
Speaker 2 (02:36:42):
Bounce back how many options can you put On a?
Speaker 1 (02:36:47):
Twitter, Poll alabama Texas? Or clemson AND then i wonder
if there should be a fourth of all of. The
above the schedule is Favorable, for texas a little bit
more Challenging, for alabama very Favorable. For clemson clemson was
the hands down pick to win the acc largest margin
(02:37:09):
of any preseason poll that was.
Speaker 2 (02:37:11):
OUT there i think in all of the above option
needs to be.
Speaker 4 (02:37:16):
On there AND also i was gonna ask you, A Question,
chris god ask you who's the group of five team
that gets in after? Boys, stay, like well who's? Being
considered Is?
Speaker 1 (02:37:25):
IT navy i do want to point Out My golden
hurricane From the University, of tulsa my. ALMA mater i
want to point out that there one to go and
They Beat, abilene CHRISTIAN so i think they would be in,
That Mix trey lamb. Look OUT but, I uh i'm
Intrigued By. SOUTH florida i. REALLY am i, JUST man
(02:37:46):
i so.
Speaker 2 (02:37:46):
Kick myself i'll see SOMETHING and, I, think wow that's
gonna be that's got a chance to be an upset
or at least, a surprise and SOMEONE who i can't
stand will pick, that Game and, I'M like. I can't
i can't. DO that i can't be on the same
page with him.
Speaker 1 (02:38:03):
Or her and THAT'S why. I didn't that's why they PICKED.
Us f BUT now i think that they. Might be
they might be. Pretty legit so maybe it's MAYBE, it's
usf maybe It's. The bulls but what an opportunity they
have next Week. Against florida they're going to gains ONE
and i don't know if they're going to jump into
the rankings, this weekend but that could be another. Ranked
(02:38:23):
matchup I'm just i'm intrigued. By them i'm intrigued by
them quite. A bit, and remember in a group of,
five leagues it's it's not really.
Speaker 4 (02:38:35):
It's not a, hard, path right no win, your conference
but it seems like everyone was kind Of Crowning boise
state to just git, back again and then they got
drilled and.
Speaker 5 (02:38:45):
You know became a whole. Separate, conversation okay.
Speaker 1 (02:38:48):
Let's hit some tweets before we get out, of here
but appreciate all the. Calls, TONIGHT man i had this
Cut from Kaylin. TO bora i was, gonna PLAY but
I just i think we're gonna run out. Of time
so let me read some of. Your tweets, jeff writes
four hours of college football is. Beyond awesome my take
is THE shutout byu Put On portland state sixty nine a.
ZIP unbelievable i want to be in the camp, of
(02:39:11):
greatness but it's a long season for the y and.
Mistakes hurt just Look AT clemson A and byu is
a team that could be. PLAYOFF bound I mean byu
was in the playoffs. Last year they're in the playoffs
if they Win The Big twelve. CHAMPIONSHIP game i mean.
They're There so i'm not somebody that's too far OFF.
Speaker 2 (02:39:31):
On byu to, BE honest i don't think it's. THAT
crazy i don't think it's.
Speaker 1 (02:39:36):
That crazy OR maybe i should say instead of playing
In The Big twelve, CHAMPIONSHIP game i should have said
ride on the cusp of having the opportunity to play
in it. Last year i'll tell you, what though that's
one thing that oh they did they play it last year.
A lot i was pulling that up. RIGHT now i will,
add this that's the weird thing about the college football
(02:39:56):
expanded playoffs in all the, conference realignment there's still this
part of Me That arizona State And iowa state played
In The big twelfth. TITLE game byu was riding the
cusp of it.
Speaker 2 (02:40:06):
Last year.
Speaker 1 (02:40:08):
You look, At this, you're, Like Well arizona state has
a chance to make, the playoffs and, you realize oh,
my gosh In The big twelve they get that autobid
and it's pretty wide open in that league. Right now
so that is a, very long convoluted answer to a
very very fair question and a team that we haven't brought,
up tonight and that IS The. Byu cougar's we did
talk a lot earlier about, the Trade The michael, parsons
(02:40:32):
trade what. It, means basically your reaction dictated that this
Was From, preller forever, who writes how is.
Speaker 2 (02:40:41):
This not the right move For. The cowboys he's, often
injured doesn't show up in.
Speaker 1 (02:40:46):
Big games is a needy distraction and wanted more money
than every other player in the league besides. A quarterback
why would a team going nowhere with so many other
holes pay that great move for Once by jerry not
getting a lot of that like this from My Man Mustang,
(02:41:08):
mania Cowboys and jerry's stupidity is. KILLING me i DON'T
think i can hold. IT together i wanted. TO call
i wanted, to CALL but i couldn't utter a, coherent
sentence even If my mustangs were looking fantastic in their
red Unis Against Commerce HIGH school A. And m give
(02:41:28):
me a pro team to. Switch To but, I'm sorry.
I'M sorry i can feel. Your pain here's, the, thing
Though the cowboys are much more of a, CONTENDER still
i think in twenty twenty five than What the raiders
were when they did This With. Khalil MACK and i
keep getting my years. Messed up i'm pretty sure it was.
Twenty eighteen. Pretty sure maybe maybe it Was, nineteen okay,
(02:41:51):
thank you everything runs together now. Getting OLD but i
can feel your pain on. THAT one i absolutely know
what it feels like. That trade i'm still. Shook by
And then eric final text to the show tonight not
a big college, football Fan but baman didn't help themselves
by running twelve straight times on the.
Speaker 2 (02:42:10):
First drive what a weekend and we're just. Getting started
