(00:21):
com for a free rate quote. Oh boy, oh boy,
Ladies and gentlemen, do we have a show for you today.
I see my man Iowa, Sam has a little smirk
on his face looking at me. I wonder if he's
excited about Iowa, Iowa, Wisconsin tonight. Oh, he's got his
fake i D T shirt on. Props to our man
(00:44):
Colin Cowherd. I think we'll talk about that today a
little bit. Sam Colin Cowherd and my appearance yesterday on
The Herd. A lot of fans in Cleveland flooding my
social media, all up in my Instagram comments, very angry
about what I had to say about Baker Mayfield. Listen,
we're gonna cover it all today, folks. We got a
(01:04):
few great guests lined up. Pat forty, great college football reporter,
will be here in about twenty five minutes. We got
my main man, Danny Cannell joining us in our number
two and the ultimate NFL Insider Jay Glazer, here for
our number three. We'll get to my NFL picks four
in one last week, thank you. My college picks will
get to those another four and one. I'm on cloud nine,
(01:26):
ladies and gentlemen. I am very excited. Can you hear
that bounce in my voice? And I'm gonna say this
early and I'm gonna say it often. Today. I love
Baker Mayfield. Yes, I know. The Cleveland Browns beat my
Jets on Thursday night. It was an incredible comeback. It
was an awesome debut for the number one overall pick.
(01:48):
I mean, don't you just love Baker Mayfield. What's not
to love? Sam? I mean, Baker Mayfield shows up and
the joint is jumping in Cleveland. The dog was popping.
That was like the place to be, not just at
the stadium, but watching the game because I watched it all.
(02:09):
I watched the end, as you know. And we'll get
to what I said on the Herd. Listen, I'm gonna
always watch my Jets and then listen. Baker Mayfield has
that the junis aqua. Baker Mayfield has that aura that
people want to watch him and I and yes, I'm
saying this with partially a grin because of what I
(02:31):
said on The Herd. It kind of set the Internet
on fire. Yesterday, my phone just blowing up repeatedly people
I don't usually hear from or haven't heard from in
like a couple of years. You know, you know that
you you get a text from a number and then
you're like, oh, I don't have this name in and
then you scroll up and you're like, oh, I know
who this is, and then you see the last text
you had with them. It was like, like, wow, three years.
(02:52):
I must have really angered some people with my Baker
Mayfield comments. And you know, I go on The Herd yesterday.
Of course we know the story now. Colin Cowherd and I,
uh friendly. He helped get me out to FS one.
We live in like the same area, and I go on,
I'm gonna I think I'm gonna be going on The
Herd regularly every Friday, UM, partially to pump up my
(03:13):
new NFL gambling podcast that I've got on Fox Sports.
It's called Coming Up Winners. I think you're gonna love it, um,
but I think after the first episode of that, I
may need to change it to Coming up Baker Mayfield because, folks,
what happened Thursday night? A matchup of Jets Brown's Jets Browns,
which kind of lacks the panache of Steelers Patriots or
(03:38):
Cowboys Giants. Jets Browns on Thursday night was the eleventh
most watched game in NFL network history Jets Browns. Over
eight million people watch that game, and in the fourth quarter,
as Baker's leading that come back down the field, the
number hit ten million. Ten million people watching Brown's Jets.
(04:03):
Just let that sink in for a little bit. I
know all these hot take artists at our Arrival network
love to say, well, the NFL's down, the NFL's hurting.
And remember there was a Wall Street journal columnist who
was like, if you own an NFL team, should you
sell it because the NFL's trending downward? And I I
just went after him. I'm like, dude, come on, come on.
The NFL right now, folks, is on fire. It is
(04:26):
so good right now, and part of it is because
of the new blood we've got out there. Pat Mahomes.
Pat Mahomes go to the Hall of Fame, as we
just cussed last week on this show. Right yes, I'm
saying that with sarcasm. Sam Donald his new blood Baker Mayfield.
He's great for the NFL. Hadn't played in the first
two weeks, but everybody's waiting for it. Here's why I
(04:49):
think everybody loves and wants to be in the Baker
Mayfield business. He's got the swagger of an NBA player.
I mean, the guy has a chip on his shoulder
the size of Andre the Giant. Baker Mayfield is the
word that resonates in TV, web and radio. He's interesting
(05:12):
and if you look around, the NFL quarterbacks historically not
that interesting. And there's a reason for that. Peyton Manning
was always a boring interview. Did he ever give you
anything on the field after the game at the Prescott?
Not really. Now he's great in commercials, he's awesome on
Saturday Night Live, But Peyton Manning was kind of boring.
(05:35):
Tom Brady also kind of boring. Now he's a great
pitch man for TV twelve and Under Armour and Ugs,
but as a guy, kind of boring. Russell Wilson he
uses social media almost exclusively for promotional purposes. Look here
I am with my hot wife at a New York
(05:58):
City red carpet event. Look here, I am at the
hospital giving to underprivileged kids. Well, and there's nothing wrong
with listen. That's just what Russell Wilson is. But for
sports fans, the young audience that coveted eighteen to thirty
four demographic that we all want, they want juice, they
want fiery, they want excitement. Andrew Luck is not appealing
(06:22):
to them because he has a book club in life.
You want interesting, and I like all those guys. I
like Andrew Luck a lot. You know, He's one of
my favorite quarterbacks. I like Russell Wilson as much as
I'm a Jets fan, and I'm conditioned not to like Brady.
I like Tom Brady. I've interviewed him a couple of times.
Once early in his career at the Victoria's Secret Party.
(06:44):
It was extremely chill and laid back. But none of
those guys have the juice of a Baker Mayfield. And
that's because Baker Mayfield is willing to tangle with trolls
on social media. Baker Mayfield willing to talk trash, do
the throat slit gesture at halftime, plant a flag at midfield.
(07:06):
None of those other guys are doing that. And that's fine.
But for Baker Mayfield to do it, it just brings
in a totally different audience to the NFL. Totally different audience.
And that's why I said, I love Baker Mayfield. He's
gonna be a gold mine for this show on social
media when I'm on TV all writing on the Big
(07:28):
Lead dot Com. Baker Mayfield has it. Now, why don't
those NFL quarterbacks have it besides Baker, the guys like
Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson. Well, that's because that's what the
owners want. You're running a billion dollar business. I mean,
the NFL is a billion dollar business. These owners are
(07:48):
wealthy millionaires and billionaires. They want the face of the franchise.
They want that guy to be non controversial. NFL owners
want that guy to be safe, to be buttoned up,
someone they can package and sell to the fan base.
And listen, you get paid handsomely for that. Kirk Cousins,
(08:13):
relentlessly upbeat, super positive, very America, very middle America. Just
got ninety million dollars guaranteed. Kirk Cousins is what you
want out of your quarterback. Positive is gonna sell people
in commercials. He's gonna be on billboards. You don't want
(08:34):
to get a phone call in the middle of the
night about your franchise quarterback. You don't want that drama.
You don't want distractions. What you guys may see me
on FS one, but behind the scenes, I'm bumping into
former GMS, former coaches, former players every day. And when
I see them, I'm a sponge asking questions. And the
(09:01):
number one they thing they say, we don't want distractions,
anything that's gonna take away from the game plan. And
that includes Levi on Bell, going on social media, Baker
Mayfield firing shots on social media. They don't actually like that. Owners, GMS, coaches,
they don't want that. But that's why we love Baker Mayfield.
(09:23):
Let's guys in the content business, we kind of love that.
But when you're the Cleveland Browns, do you want that? Well,
I don't think the Browns are in a position to care, right.
I don't think they can care that their franchise quarterback
as a character. And everybody out there's angry at me
for what I pointed out yesterday on the Herd. Okay,
(09:44):
and I'll quickly get to it because I gotta be honest.
I've barely been on social media the last like twelve
hours because you guys keep flooding my Twitter and Instagram
was you're an idiot? How could you be so mean
to Baker Mayfield. Let me just quickly put it out here.
It'll take three minutes. So he beats the Jets, awesome
final drive to him. Donald failed at the end. Whatever,
(10:05):
I'm not We'll talk about Donald and the Jets later.
I don't think it's a bad loss. I'm not concerned
about Sam Donald. So Baker Mayfield is running off the field,
He's got his fist in the air celebrating. It's a
great moment, but the NFL network is teasing Baker Mayfield
joins us in the sets in minutes. So he's just
gonna go to the locker room, take off his pads,
(10:26):
drop off his helmet, and come out to the set.
So I I don't usually watch these postgame shows, but
I'm like, oh, if I see that bug on the screen,
I'm gonna keep watching. So Baker goes to the locker room,
takes off his chest pads, he definitely didn't shower, and
just walks right out. And the thing I noticed was
as he's walking out, he's carrying his phone, and I
(10:46):
made mention of that on the herd, Right. I know,
we all take our phones everywhere we go. I get it.
But when I saw Baker, who was in the locker
room maybe three minutes, maybe four, possibly five, I don't
think it was five, but whatever, I instantly fought back
to that Sports Illustrated story in March about how obsessed
(11:07):
Baker Mayfield is with social media. Sports Illustrator had this
long story chronicling how he fires back at trolls. Baker
Mayfield likes tweets, he has a list of media members
who have allegedly crossed the line with him. He's using
all this stuff, all this criticism as motivation, and that's fine.
(11:29):
I applauded that story and and and to some extent,
all of us do the same, you know a little bit, right.
I think we all look at that and they're like, oh,
I'm gonna prove that dope wrong. But when I saw
Baker care in his field, I'm like, hold up, hold up.
There were sixty seven thousand people in that stadium going
(11:50):
bananas for Baker Mayfield. They were losing their minds. That
the losing streak six hundred and thirty whatever, days was over.
They were worshiping him. But did he go in and
grab his phone really to check his social media? Was
that like the first thing that came to his mind. Now,
I don't know if it was. I was speculating given
his history with this big Sports Illustrated story that came
(12:14):
out in March. He's liked some of my tweets, uh
from Fox Sports Radio. You know, he's he's really come
after us being in the media, and that's fine. But
I was just surprised that a guy who had the
adulation from sixty thousand people was grabbing his phone. And
now maybe you're gonna say, hey, his phone rang when
he was at the locker. Someone was trying to FaceTime
(12:34):
in and listen. Yes, I saw his brother on Instagram
point out to me that, oh, I was trying to
FaceTime Baker. And if he was, if this guy is
telling the truth, he might be. I thought maybe he
was in the stadium face timing to meet up, or
he was FaceTime from wherever. This wasn't a shot at Baker.
This was an observation, that's all. It was. Hey, I'm
(12:56):
sure his phone blew up. Dude, you have arrived, you one,
You were Blaker Mayfield was dropping dimes Thursday night. This
guy was hitting all the passes. Listen, let's be real here.
If receivers don't drop a few passes, he may have
completed nine of his things his throws last night, Thursday night.
So I wasn't taking a shot at Mayfield. I was observing,
(13:18):
given his social media history, to grab your phone to
go up and do. I was just caught off guard.
I think this was the biggest moment of his sports career, right.
This is bigger than the Heisman. This was bigger than
when he was a walk on at Texas Tech and
slayed in his first couple of games, or or when
he went to Oklahoma again as a walk on and
(13:40):
was dominant. I mean, Baker Mayfield now has a city,
an entire fan base. By the fingertips, he's got them,
they are worshiped. He could run for mayor in Cleveland
right now and probably dominate. And I was surprised that
he was grabbing his phone. Listen, we know how the
(14:01):
phones are. They can be addictive. I've read the stories.
Do not show your young kids the phone too much.
It can be addictive. Maybe he is addictive, Maybe not.
Baker may feel one Thursday night, that's all that matters
my observation. Hey, pump the brakes. It's one game. It's
two and a half quarters when the Jets had no
(14:22):
film on him. But Baker may feel big picture, he's
the most interesting man in football this year and he
might be for many years to come. So hopefully that
will appease the Baker may feel crowd and the social
media jackals who are all up in my business coming
up next year on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio, Hey,
(14:43):
Lakers fans, were you disappointed that Jimmy Butler's name was
not mentioned as a as a potential landing spot in
l A for the Minnesota for the disgruntled Minnesota Timberwolves forward.
He mentioned the Clippers and the Nets and the next
why no, Lakers. I'm here to tell you the Lakers
are in the mix for Jimmy Butler. That's next. Back
(15:06):
here on the Big Lead Fox Sports or Radio. Kind
of a sleepy Saturday morning, because I know you guys
love to listen to my young children's sporting exploits. I
have to miss my son's game this morning. However, during
the commercial break, you know I'm an assistant coach on
(15:29):
the team, assistant coach slash head coach, whatever. I'm going
to face time with my wife, who will be at
the game, and I will be able to watch my son.
He listen, he's look he's shaping up as a good defender.
He wants to get a goal badly. It's only two
games in. It's early. Um. I don't even know if
I should talk about what happened in the game last
week because some of the parents driving to the game
(15:50):
may hear it. But I'm just gonna be brief. It
was one of the most embarrassing moments I've seen from
parents on another team before. Our best player scored in
an incredible goal, like like a forty yard slalom and finishes,
and he had a little cast on his finger because
he broke his finger. Nobody said anything for the first
(16:12):
quarter or the second quarter. But as soon as he
scored that goal in the second quarter at halftime, the
opposing team said, hey, he can't play. That's dangerous, and
they banned the kid for the second half. They kicked
him out of the game. Now, at the time, I
was focused on our team, so I was like, it
didn't dawn upon me. I straight up. I was like,
are you kidding me? Is this a joke? You're kicking
a seven year old out of a game because he
(16:33):
has a cast like a dangerous We have to like
get the hell out of here. This is the youth
sports garbage polluting America. Of course, the other team's best
players scored two late goals, but like four minutes left,
we had no subs. After that we lost three one.
We would have beat him. Gosh. Youth sports is fun,
but man, it's garbage. The big lead here on Fox
(16:53):
Sports Radio, brought to you by Granger. Grangers got your
back when it comes to safety and industrial supplies that
help your facility running. Get what you need when you
need it at Granger dot com. We'll get back to
Baker Mayfield. Do we open the show with Trust me,
there's a lot more meat on that bone. And I
(17:13):
was not kidding when I tell you Baker Mayfield is
great for the NFL. And I was not slandering Baker
Mayfield because he picked up his phone and that was
the first thing he thought to do after impressing sixties
thousand people in Cleveland in his debut. We'll get back
to Baker, don't worry. But I have to talk briefly
about this Jimmy Butler situation in the NBA. It only
(17:35):
because it applies to the Lakers. This is big for
the Lakers, now. I know. Yesterday, I believe his agent
or someone close to the situation in quotes put out
a list of Jimmy Butler is interested in the UH Clippers,
nets and Knicks. No Lakers on that list. Well, I'm
here to tell you a couple of things. Number One,
(18:01):
the Lakers were fined for tempering with Paul George. Allegedly
it was a joke of a tempering. The Lakers were
fined for tampering with Janice. Okay, so two fines for
the Lakers. Let me add this, Paul George wanted to
go to the Lakers badly for like eight to ten months,
(18:23):
said he wanted to go to Lakers. At the end
stopped recruiting him because they wanted Kawhi Leonard. When he
became available, the Lakers kind of pivoted. Remember I used
the analogy, you're all set to take this girl to
the homecoming dance? Right? Good? You guys got a good
back and forth. She's she's great, you like her and
(18:44):
then the hottest girl in the grade dumps her boyfriend,
and you think you got a shot, so you want
to pivot from your safe girl that you like. Here,
I'm gonna swing my you know, I'm gonna throw my
hat in the ring with this hot chick, and didn't
make it happen, and the Lakers lost the safe girl
Paul George, and they missed out on Kauai. For the
(19:06):
time being, no other NBA player is gonna come out
and say they want to go to the Lakers after
what happened to Paul George. I'm telling you that as
a fact. No player, not Clay Thompson, not Kauai, not
Jimmy Butler, not Anthony Davis or whomever. Nobody's gonna say
(19:26):
I want to play for the Lakers because they all
know that one superstar is lurking that could throw a
monkey wrench into everything. And his name is Kevin Durant.
I can't call him a friend of the show. Technically
we're not friends. I don't have his phone number. We
did strike up an Instagram friendship. He's heard me over
the last fifteen months. They really really nice things about him.
(19:49):
I've said since the finals he's the best player in
the NBA. You disagree with that, that's fine. This is
not a slight to Lebron. But if Kevin Durant hits
the market, sorry Kauai, sorry Clay, sorry Jimmy Butler, they
want Kevin Durant. That's how the Lakers are going to
play this. They would love Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler, he's
(20:12):
one of the most underrated players of the league. You
guys know, I have an affinity for Jimmy Butler. He
wants out of Minnesota. I don't put any stock in
this three way love triangle story that's floating out there.
I don't know if you guys are aware of this.
Karl Anthony Towns was dating some girl and then all
of a sudden they mysteriously broke up, and people think
(20:35):
it's because Jimmy Butler got was trying to get with
her or got whatever. Don't put any stock in that.
It's juicy. You click on it, you're gonna go search
for it now if you're in your car, uh listening
when you when you get to a stop, like Jimmy
Butler love triangle, Yeah, we wrote about it on The
Big Lead. I don't put any stock in that. It's
an interesting report. What I do put stock in is, yeah,
(20:57):
the Timberwolves who had Andrew Wiggins but for her former
number one pick. Remember they trade. He was in that
Kevin Love trade. And Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler didn't
mesh together, you know. Wiggins and I would. I could
talk for an hour about how my love for Andrew Wiggins,
but he hasn't really gotten better and and and last year,
I mean he got way fewer shots, way fewer points
(21:18):
because of Jimmy Butler. Wiggins doesn't do anything particularly well.
Butler kind of was the guy in Minnesota and and so, yes,
Andrew Wiggins is thrilled. But I'll wrap this up before
we get to pat Ford. He talks of college football.
I'm a Jimmy Butler guy because in his life he's
always been about incremental gains. He's always got better always.
(21:42):
In high school, this guy was nobody special. He was
virtually unrecruited out of high school. Gets to junior college.
He was the two and twenty six best junior college
prospect in the country. Jimmy Butler. Then he goes to Marquette.
He facts his national letter of intent from McDonald's. Remember
this is a guy who's mom kicked him out of
(22:02):
the house at thirteen. Jimmy Butler's story is awesome, folks.
Jimmy Butler was not even an All Conference player at Marquette.
He's made a career out of proving people wrong. I'm
all in on Jimmy Butler. If the Lakers can get him,
Oh boy, that's nice. The Lakers will be in the
mix for Jimmy Butler. I'm telling you that. Now, we
(22:26):
gotta see who else hits the market, because if you
gotta quote unquote rank them, Yeah, I go Durant, then
I go Kauai, then I go Jimmy Butler. Yes, I
would take Jimmy Butler over Clay Thompson. And I like
Clay Thompson a lot. But we gotta we gotta break.
We're gonna get to our guest Pat forty in a second. Um,
I did you guys watch what happened to USC last night?
(22:49):
Did you see how lucky they got? Clay Hilton, the
USC coach, he needs to thank his lucky stars that
they pulled that win out and that the pirate guy
Mike Leach got way way conservative and blew it at
the end. So coming up next we will talk Clay
Hilton USC the big Stanford Oregon game. We'll get into
(23:09):
all that, but first let's go to Isaac Loewen Front
for the latest and sport Morning. Jason, we begin with
Major League baseball. We're on Friday night. The up start
Oakland A's took another step towards the postseason behind a
familiar bath five ball right center field, back on it
his cave to the track at the wall found it
goes unbelievable. Chris Davis takes the team on his back
(23:34):
and he beats the Twins Nicoll and kgmz is. Davis
his second home run of the night and major league
leading forty five home run of the season, gave the
age of seven sixth victory. Oakland's magic number to clinch
a wild card spot is three. In the National League West,
the Rockies one at Arizona six to two, while the
last place Padres upset the first place Dodgers five three,
(23:56):
So the first place Dodgers lead over Colorado is now
down to one and a half. And to make matters
even worse for Dodger fans, their game lasted so long
at three hours and fifty seven minutes that they canceled
the post game fireworks show. Matt Adams to run double
on the bottom of the eighth game, the Cardinals a
five three whatever the Giants. So the Cardinals remain a
game and a half out of the Rockies for the
(24:18):
second NL wild Card and finally engulfed. Tiger Woods and
Justin Rose tied for the lead after two rounds of
the Tour Championship at seven under with Rory McElroy two
shots back. Jason, back to you, Thank you, Isaac. Back
here on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio. I am
your host, Jason McIntire, coming to you live from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to save or
(24:43):
more on car insurance with Geico. Go to Geico dot
com call one eight nine four seven Auto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier. Alright, our
next guest, I've known him for a long time. I mean,
this guy is pretty much at the top of his
profess show when it comes to college football. He's a
great reporter. Pat forty, Yahoo Sports columnist joining the show. Pat,
(25:07):
How are you doing well? Jason? Happy college Football Saturday?
To you? Yeah, it's a it's a pretty good slate. Uh, Pat,
you know last weekend was a bit sleepy. Which game
are you going to be at today? Is it going
to be that big SEC game? Yeah? I'm actually attending
Georgia Missouri. See a couple unbeaten teams. I think one
of them is a lot better than the other one.
(25:27):
But for now, Missouri is three and oh uh. They've
got a first round draft pick quarterback and Drew Locked.
They've got an incredible deep threat in Emmanual All. We'll
see if they can slow down Georgia enough to make
a game of it. But it was the saw Penn
State last night against Illinois and now driving over to
catch the Bulldogs and Tigers. Wow, now that Penn State
(25:48):
game was crazy. It was like a four point game
in the third quarter and then Penn State scores like
what forty points? It was absurd? Talk about Pat forty
Yahoo Sports? All right, Pat, let me start here. Um
usc Clay Hilton he I don't want to say he's
on life support there as head coach, but they have
not looked good. I actually think they got lucky last
(26:08):
night to pull one out against Washington State. What are
you hearing on Clay Hilton and USC's future. Yeah, they
they they were a bit fortunate to win that game.
They have not had a good season at all. You know.
I I think USC would certainly not like to fire
him this year, just because it would cost a lot
(26:28):
of money. And I'm not sure that there are anybody
there's anybody they can sit down there and say, yes,
that's definitely someone we know that we can bring in.
This is gonna do better. So, uh, you know, but
if if the if the diminishing returns continue, Um, the record,
Clay Helton's record without Sam Donald is not real good. Uh.
(26:49):
You know. J T. Daniels is a very talented young quarterback,
but he's very young. They are they are young at
some key key positions, and they're not good on either
line right now. Uh. Fortunately, the PAC twelfth South is
pretty soft, so even without it being a very good
USC team, I think they can rack up some more
wins here in the conference. All Right, we're talking with
(27:09):
Pat forty, Yahoo Sports college football insider. Pat. Let me
float a quick theory to you. Pete Carroll and the
Seahawks are struggling. They probably won't make the playoffs in
the NFL. He's sixty seven years old. I know you
just said there aren't a lot of great candidates. I
would agree with you. What do you give the chances
of Pete Carroll returning to USC? That would really mean something? Uh?
(27:33):
You know, be an attention grabber that would certainly uh
wake up the echoes of their last glory uh era, Um,
you know yeah, at sixty seven? Does he want to
go back to recruiting? Does USC want to go back
to a guy that ended up being in charge when
they went on probation. Uh, you know there's some baggage there.
(27:54):
You know, it would be really intriguing if if Pete
Carroll expressed interest? How would USC react? Boy, that would
be a fun one, that's for sure. Hey, while we're
talking coaches, Pat, let me ask you. Uh, Willie Taggart
at Florida State off to a rough start? Now, listen,
it's early, but the Florida State fan base is a
lot of nut jobs down there. I mean they are,
(28:15):
they're off their rocker. I keep hearing, Oh, we gotta
get rid of him. Doesn't he have a twenty one
million dollar buy out? Like? Are we forgetting hey? Man?
Twenty one million dollars. He's not going anywhere. Can we
have some patience or does that not exist in college football? Well,
even by the lunatic standards of college football, it would
(28:35):
be crazy to get rid of Willie Taggart after a
year with a twenty one million dollar payoff, to get
rid of him, and it's been it's been worse than rough.
They've been terrible. It's been a disaster so far. They
were fortunate to win their one game over FCS Samford.
They were not competitive against Virginia Tech or Syracuse. If
they don't beat Northern Illinois today, they could end up
(28:57):
one and eleven. But a million is twenty one million.
That's a lot of money, and I think you at
least want to give him a second season. Now. Stan
Wilcox is the athletic director who hired him, is leaving
to go to the n c a A. You know,
we'll see who the replacement is and see what kind
of appetite they have for taking on something as fiscally
(29:18):
crazy as that. I I would be very surprised if
he doesn't get a second year, but there will be
extreme pressure on him if this season keeps going the
way it is. Pat forty Yahoo Sports. All right, let
me get you out of here with this pat to me,
one of the reasons I think college football has had
a bit of a slow start is because of how
awesome the teams are at the top. Clemson, I know
(29:38):
they're not they haven't really covered with ease yet. But Georgia,
we know is very good and Alabama's absolutely loaded. You know,
I've been saying two is the best quarterback Nick Saban's
ever had. Like, if you are the SEC, do you
have any chance against tuah and and Nick Saban this year?
Not unless you're Georgia, I think, But you know, I
(30:00):
give Georgia a chance on the neutral field in Atlanta.
But this is by far is definitely the best quarterback
and probably the best offense saving his head. They are
scary right now. Now. Louisville is not good if he
plays no defense, so they haven't had a good test yet.
Texas A and M will be better test. But the
(30:21):
line on that's four touchdowns for a reason. So it's
gonna be a while before they really I think run
into uh some difficult challenges. It maybe maybe November, you know,
when the LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn is on the schedule,
but I give Georgia a chance at least, but we'll
see how how things developed. I think George is really
good as well. Okay, Pat forty Yahoo Sports College Football
(30:45):
inside of great stuff. As always, Pat enjoyed Drew Lock today.
I think he's a lock to go in the first round.
Very good. Alright, alright, that take it easy, the back
to the Big Lead here on Fox Sports Radio. Listen
Alabama offense. If you guys haven't watched it, I'll be
giving out the picks in the second hour here, less
(31:06):
than an hour, and I'm telling you you have to
ride the to a train. Are you guys aware that
they pulled the starting quarterback Alabama Old Miss on the
road midway through the second quarter? It was seven seven
midway through the second quarter they pulled to uh Like,
It's incredible how good this offense is and it's scary
(31:29):
for the rest of college football. We'll get to the
picks again next hour coming up next here on the
Big Lead Fox Sports Radio. The NFL sells hope better
than any other league in American sports. And you know what,
that's why the NFL is on fire right now. They've
put they've put those off field issues and tweets from
(31:51):
the President. That stuff doesn't even matter anymore. The NFL
is back, baby, I'll tell you why everybody's hopeful. Next,
what does it mean when Geico says just fifteen minutes
could save you fift or more on car insurance? Means
(32:14):
you probably should have gone to Geico dot com fifteen
minutes ago. It's a fun weekend sports, wasn't it. I'm
telling you this Baker Mayfield stuff is is ratings gold
for the NFL. It is a gold mine for bloggers
and people who write on the internet. Baker Mayfield interesting,
(32:39):
That is so key. Just remember that, you know how
the NBA is just so popular among young people because
of the drama, interesting characters. We'll see if the NFL
is cool with Baker Mayfield being out there. And I mean,
(32:59):
I can't think of many other quarterbacks who regularly go
after internet rolls. I mean I kind of lost there.
But we'll see if the Browns are cool with that,
because again, it's fun. Everybody enjoys it online. But the
face of the franchise guy you putting on billboards, we'll see.
But when I look at why Browns fans love him
(33:23):
beyond the personality and the charisma and obviously this armed talent.
Baker Mayfield was putting the ball in great places Thursday night.
But Browns fans have been so long suffering that they
just need some some hope to get behind. I mean,
this is a this is one of the worst franchises
(33:44):
in pro sports, I would think one of the worst.
And the Browns have had no hope for years. I
remember when they drafted Johnny Football, there was hope always
so he's gonna we love him. He's charismatic, he's challenged.
We got Johnny Football with that hope was gone. Within
(34:05):
one season. You could tell he couldn't play, he wasn't
fit for the NFL. Then he started partying and it
was over and the hope went out the window. I mean,
in life, we're all hopeful, right, you could take it
away from sports for a second, think about life. Right,
We're all hopeful we find the right girl that we're
gonna they we're gonna lock down and marry and spend
the rest of our lives with. Right, We're all hopeful that.
(34:26):
You know, if we just work out a little bit harder,
I'll look good when I go to the beach. You know,
I just work out a little harder. We're hopeful. We
all hope we can one day get that that car
we've always dreamed of. I will say I've wanted a
certain car for you know, probably a little over a
(34:48):
decade now. And we moved out here to l A.
And I was like, should I buy that? Should I
buy that car that I've always wanted? And my wife
was like, you're not, um, And I was like, Okay,
I'm not, but I'm so hopeful that one day I
will get that one car. I'm not gonna say it
because it's a little stupid, you'll laugh, um, but I
will say this, for the longest time in my life,
(35:11):
I've always wanted a pool in my backyard. My parents
were like, now we're not doing it. We hey, we
can't afford it, you know, growing up and be it's
like it's a lot of work, it's a lot of upkeep.
You're not gonna do the upkeep. And I just wanted
to pool because it was like a gathering spot, right.
So I was hopeful I could get a pool. And
(35:31):
as soon as I sold the big lead, you know,
we moved from New York City out to the Burbs.
I said, I wanted pool. I got that pool. I
was hopeful. I worked hard toward it, and I got it.
And it was everything we dreamed of. You know. At
the middle of the afternoon, I would sit in the
pool on one of those floats and read a book.
I put a basketball hoop at the pool. It was awesome.
But hope, we want something to build on, right, And
(35:55):
my thing was I wanted a pool. I worked toward it.
I got it. In the NFL, fans want so badly
a franchise quarterback who can help them contend for the
Super Bowl. I mean we talked about this all the time.
Every year in the NFL, a team goes from worse
to first. Right, the Jacksonville Jaguars had what six straight
(36:16):
losing seasons and then last year, out of the blue,
there are eight minutes away from going to the super Bowl.
The defense was great, but Jacks fans had to wait
four years for Blake Bortles to live up to the
hype of being a number of top five overall pick.
And remember they got teased with Bortles. He had like
thirty five touchdowns in his second year. That was false. Hope,
(36:38):
But what I saw from Bordles last year. They were
hopeful Bortles could be the guy. He was the guy.
He was good. The defense carried him, but Bortles was
good enough. And like I gotta say, like, it's not
just the Jags, it's the Browns, It's the Rams. Remember
but listen, the Rams haven't been to the play offs
(37:00):
or hadn't been to the players in like twelve years. Oh,
we need a franchise quarterback. Oh we longed for the
days of Kurt Warner. We're hopeful. We're hopeful. We got
Jared Goff, but that appeared to be false hope. Remember
Goff's rookie year, Everybody's geeked, Oh we got this kid
from Cali's money. Jared Goff started owing seven. That hope
(37:22):
quickly soured and then what happened last year, worst to
first boom. Now they needed a coaching change, They needed
to get girly in the mix, They needed to get
a new offensive mindset. And it worked. So they had
the hope. I'm telling you, the Cleveland Browns have not
had the other than the Johnny football thing. There has
(37:45):
been no hope with this franchise Baker Mayfield. They can
sell the hope. Now it's official, like I mean, they
found it now. I'm not gonna go overboard and say
he's a franchise quarterback in the NFL for fifteen years.
I don't know if that's the case. I do feel
confident in saying Sam Donald is gonna be a franchise
(38:06):
quarterback for the next fifteen years. I don't know about Baker,
but I'll say this, he has he surprised me. Now again,
I will repeat, the Jets had no tape on Baker.
They did not prepare for Baker, and if they hadn't
knocked Tyrod Taylor out of the game, we probably don't
(38:27):
see Baker. Tyrod was bad to start, and you know,
I think that ship is sailed. I would not be
surprised if the Browns went to I don't know, the
Green Bay Packers, Gavin, Sam, what do you think about that?
If I'm the Browns and I know Baker is a guy,
do I call up the Packers? Who? I mean? DeShawn Kaiser?
(38:50):
I like him, but he's not playable as a backup
and Aaron Rodgers is nicked up. Hey, guys, you want
you want Tyrod Taylor any interest? I mean if I'm
the Browns, I'm I'm looking to move on from Tyrod.
I've seen enough and a half from Baker and he's
gonna have his ups and downs, right, but he's your guy.
You've got him on the cheap salary. You've got a
lot of cap room. The Browns can do something now.
(39:12):
I do believe the Buffalo Bills could be an option.
Would would they take Baker Mayfield back? I don't think
they would. Gavin. I mean, you know, Josh Allen's their guy.
I don't think he's very good. Uh, they did trade
away A J. McCarron. But you know, Baker Mayfield has
Cleveland fans hopeful. And I think my big takeaway is
(39:36):
the Raiders this week are gonna be a good litmus test.
I'm sorry, not this week. Next week gonna be a
good litmus test for Baker Mayfield because he's gonna have
extra time to prepare right coming off the Thursday game.
I believe the Raiders have gone Denver, then Miami, then
home next weekend. I think this is one of the
(39:57):
worst secondaries in the league. They have no hass rushed
to get at Baker, so we could see him start hot.
We could see him go from slaying the Jets and
a half and listen, the Jets had played three games
in eleven days. The defense wore down in the second half.
They cannot get a pass rush unless they blitz. They
were afraid to blitz because the kid Callaway is just
(40:19):
such a burner. He was just torching the Jets left
and right. It was just a bat all around second
half matchup for the Jets. But Baker Mayfield, he delivered.
And we're not done talking about him. I'm telling you,
when eight million people watch Baker Mayfield versus the Jets
and it's the eleventh most watch NFL Network game ever,
we've got a topic we're gonna drive heavily. So coming
(40:40):
up next year on the big lead Fox Sports Radio,
or people overreacting to his debut, I'll say this, I'm
sick and tired of the Baker Mayfield Drew Brees nonsense
upset the first place Dodgers five three and the Rockies
one at Arizon to six to two. So the first
(41:01):
place Dodgers leader for Colorado is now down to one
and a half. Golf, Tiger Woods and Justin Rose tied
to the lead after two rounds of the Tour Championship
at seven under. I'm Isaac Lowan Kron, who our number
two here on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio. Good Morning,
(41:21):
West Coast. I'm sure the East Coast is up and
up and awake here now. It's eleven am. College football
games start in one hour, and I'm your host, Jason
McIntyre coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save you or more on
car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote.
(41:46):
We will get to my college football picks, and about
fifteen minutes we're gonna have Danny Canell fiery Danny Canell.
I got to know him a little bit. He's a
good dude, former Giants quarterback. I always thought his claim
to fame was dating that uh girl from Playboy, and
I always joke about him with that. He's of course
(42:09):
now married with kids. But he's gonna be joining us
in half an hour again. Jay Glazer, NFL Insider, Ballers Superstar,
and yes, I will probably badger Jay Glazer to get
me a cameo of sorts on Ballers. Um. I've been
to his gym out here in l A. It's it's
a scene. I will I will say that it is
(42:29):
definitely a scene. So what are we gonna talk about today,
ladies and gentlemen. I'm gonna tell you. I'm gonna tell
you why the NFL absolutely loves everything about Baker Mayfield.
Everything about Baker Mayfield. I love Baker Mayfield. And I
know a lot of people who you know, are tuning
in right now or maybe heard what I said on
(42:51):
on Colin Cowherd Show yesterday. Oh you ate Baker Mayfield.
You're always going No. I love Baker Mayfield, folks. I'm
in the business of being interesting on the radio, on television,
on the Internet. Of course. I love a guy who's
gonna be popping off on social media going after trolls.
You think Andrew luck is taken the time out of
his day to go on Instagram and respond to these jackals?
(43:14):
Do you think Russell Wilson is replying to these dopes
on Twitter who say you stink? No? I mean, for instance, uh,
producer Gavin here reminded me I totally had forgotten about
this just last week. Okay, and Gavin, you'll you'll help
me break this down just last week, right, some guy
(43:35):
who you know claims he's an NFL draft insider. I
mean everybody does, right, I guess on some level basically
came out and said something along the lines of, you know,
Lincoln Riley, the Oklahoma coach, who couldn't I mean, he's
so good offensively, he could be in the NFL next year.
That's how good Lincoln Riley is. Right, So Lincoln Riley
(43:57):
had Baker Mayfield put up video game numbers, arena league
numbers at Oklahoma. And then he gets Kyler Murray who
was drafted I believe Major League Baseball? Was he nick?
Was he an early round pick? Kyler Murray, the quarterback
of Oklahoma. I think he was drafted by the Oakland Days.
He's a talented kid. He looks like a faster Johnny Football.
(44:19):
If you guys remember him, he was a Texas A
and M for someone Kevin Sumlin. Briefly he was drafted
number nine by the Oakland Thank you Gavin. Yeah, Kyler Murray,
this guy is a blur on the field. He's awesome
and he is now putting up massive astronomical numbers for
the Oklahoma Sooners. So a guy who claims he's good
(44:41):
at the draft and knows his draft stuff said, and
Gavin filled me in here something to the effect of, listen,
Baker Mayfield may have been a creation of Lincoln Riley.
He basically, he said, he texted his scout and said,
does watching Kyler Murray make you wonder how much of
Baker's success was the coaching? And the reply from the
scout was, I'd be bleeping bleep right now if I
(45:04):
was if basically basically saying that, yes, Lincoln Riley's coaching,
implying that that was a big reason for his success.
And then and then Baker Mayfield replies, now, no, that
Baker Mayfield wasn't even tagged in that, right, No, No,
So Baker Mayfield is essentially either searching for his name
(45:25):
or people are seeing stuff and sending it to him.
Maybe he's he's part of his social media team or
his agent or whatever. But he was not tagged in that, Gavin. No,
he wasn't. And that's the thing is that So it's
kind of an indirect shot at the Browns because at
this point Baker hasn't taken the field for the brown
so there's still some question marks around him. But Baker
(45:47):
someone either shows him it or I like the idea
that he was just scrolling through Twitter because he's obsessed
with social media and finds this tweet and writes back
to Matt Miller and says, Lincoln is the best coach
in the country. But you're grant if you think Kyler
isn't talented. Pure ignorance, not your first take. That shows
your lack of actual knowledge. How many Now, I know,
(46:08):
we got a guy here in the studio, Tinder Nick. Nick.
I know you're a Baker Mayfield guy. I know you.
You just look like a Baker Mayfield fan. He's wearing
his LT jersey again, powder Blue. By the way, are
you going to charges Rams tomorrow? I will be at
the game. We'll talk about that later next But uh
(46:29):
so Baker Mayfield, Like, how many other starting NFL quarterbacks
are doing what we just described that Mayfield did on
social media? And I'll tell you why I said what
I said on the herd in a minute. But remember
social media? How many other quarterbacks thirty two NFL starting quarterbacks? No,
I want to say zero. Is Aaron Rodgers doing that? Now? No?
(46:51):
I mean Aaron Rodgers may have once alluded to something
that he saw on social media. Tom Brady may have
dropped in the comment of Facebook somewhere, who is finding
that that things said about them. Baker Mayfield's name was
not even mentioned in the initial tweet. And my favorite
(47:12):
part is where he says, not your first take, that
shows your lack of action. So he's now aware of
other takes from people online. And this is what comes
down to why I said what I said yesterday on
the Herd. The first thing Baker Mayfield thought to do
after winning his debut when away he came in kind
(47:34):
of in the second quarter for an injured Tyrod Taylor.
But the first thing sixty seven thousand people screaming Baker Bay.
I mean like the adulation was off the charts. I'm
sure that was a euphoric feeling. Uh. You know, I
hit a basketball game winner once and I was carried
off the court and there was maybe two dozen people
excited for me. But that's about it. Sixty seven thousand
(47:57):
people in that stadium going bane Anna's Baker has to
go grab his phone and I know that there's he
how do you know he was going on social media? Well,
let's look at the history. Go read that Sports Illustrated
article from March Baker Mayfield uses social media as motivation.
(48:20):
He has a list of media members of wronged him.
He's favorited tweets that I've said or Fox Sports Radio
has sent with my opinions on Baker Mayfield. I called
him and this got people so angry. Last earlier this year,
I said, when Baker Mayfield starts to shoot up these
draft boards and there was talk of him going in
(48:41):
the top ten, top five, I thought Baker Mayfield was
kind of like Bitcoin. I don't understand how Bitcoin is soaring.
It just did not make logical sense. I did not
understand how Baker Mayfield a guy. Remember last year, at
this time last September September seventeen, Baker Mayfield was not
(49:02):
considered a first round draft pick. By February, Baker Mayfield
could go in the top five, and by what April
he went number one. That was That's a meteoric rise,
similar to Bitcoin boy. I called Baker Mayfield bitcoin, and
people were just like, you're a hater. No, I'm no,
I'm not, I'm not. I don't hate Baker Mayfield. I
(49:23):
love Baker Mayfield for his ability to produce content. That's
what we are. We're all content generators. Do I like
him as a quarterback, We'll see. It's too early to tell.
I definitely would not have taken him number one. I'm
gonna have gone Sam Donald, who I think is still
gonna win Rookie of the Year. I'm not gonna change
my mind off four quarters, sorry, two and a half
(49:44):
quarters against the defense, playing his third game in eleven days,
with no pass rush and no tape on Baker to
know what was coming Jason. People are comparing this already,
like this Twitter age, this twenty and other It's been
compared to Tom Brio, a blitz got hurt and Tom
Brady went in and do you see how they're seeing
we are the champions After the game, it's it's week
(50:05):
threeeable Nick. That ties into what I said last hour
about hope. Fans just want to be hopeful that they've
found that quarterback, that savior, and they want to be
hopeful that a playoff trip is in the cards. I mean,
Cleveland fans haven't had much to cheer about, so I
guess I understand on some level the enthusiasm for Baker Mayfield.
(50:29):
But I just keep coming back to this. Social media
is like Baker Mayfield's thing when Sports Illustrated writing a
massive story about how he just continues to spend time
on there and it feeds his motivation. The guy has
a chip on his shoulder the size of Andre the Giant.
(50:51):
He was a walk on at two places in college
football and thrived. He's obviously insanely talented. I just worry,
listen that social media stuff is not gonna go away.
The phones from our hands are not gonna go away.
You have to mentally and internally, no, hey, this is
(51:13):
not good for me, and it's not Look at the studies,
the Wall Street Journals written about it. The New York
Times has these phones and social media are insanely addictive.
It's not good. I mean, I I'm not gonna break
down here for you why it's not good, because it's
very nerdy and nuanced and that doesn't make for good radio.
(51:36):
But I'm telling you go search on the internet for it.
The addiction to social media is real. People like we
got a new thing. When we're eating dinner at our house,
we've been doing this for like a little over a year.
Phone has to be on silent in another room because
you're getting text messages all the time. It's just it
(51:57):
can be addictive and it's not good. And we've talked
out on this show with Kevin Durant, Right, Kevin Durant
does this stuff. Well, Jason, why don't you kill him? Well,
I don't kill him because in the NBA, it's a
little different in that face of the franchise. In the
NFL is a guy on billboards and commercials, and the
owners who are old school, they don't want that. In
(52:20):
the NBA, you need that. Baker Mayfield, as I said
in the first hour, he's got that NBA player swagger.
He's got a wrestling heel thing about him. Lebron is
on social media a lot, but he doesn't dabble and
messed around with the trolls. He has a family. He's
got his two sons who play a AU basketball. Lebron
(52:42):
is like a coach. He's traveling with the team. I
don't know if he's coaching the AU team, but you
see him on all the videos. He's basically right there
on the bench talking to the players in the stands
for some games. Like he's got a lot going on.
He's married, he's got multiple businesses. I don't have time
to be messing with trolls. Kevin Durant, that guy I
(53:04):
like and respect a lot. He doesn't have kids that
at least that I know of. He's not married. He's
got a lot of business ventures, but he is able
to spend a lot of time on social media. Now,
Baker Mayfield is a young guy who is spending a
lot of time on social media. And that's great. But
I'm just gonna say, the fame and the adulation, oh
that's great, Nick, we know it turns. They will turn
(53:26):
on you quick. And if you're responding now when things
are great, I do worry what happens when you have
a three game losing streak or you throw four picks.
It's gonna happen. It happens to everybody, radio hosts, quarterbacks,
NBA stars. I don't even want to envision how Baker
(53:50):
could react to that. And and I, frankly, I want
to wish the guy luck. I'm not. I don't hate
on anybody. I don't wish anybody ill, fortune or failure.
That's that's too much negativity in your life. That's not good.
I try to stay positive. I try to stay upbeat
and listen, we are probably gonna talk about Baker Mayfield
a lot. We're gonna probably talk about Pat Mahomes. By
(54:11):
the way, have you heard Pat Mahomes give an interview?
Do you know what his social media presidence is? I
don't know. And right now he is one of the
best quarterbacks in the NFL, the one of the best
young quarterbacks, setting records through two weeks. I don't know
anything about Pat Mahomes. Sam Donald pretty low key on
social media. Baker Mayfield the opposite, and that's fine. But
(54:34):
he's gonna be talked about a lot. I hope he
can handle it when it turns coming up next year.
On the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio, College Football Picks,
I want four and one. Last week eleven and seven
on the young Season. I don't feel good. I took
three hold your nose dogs today. It's what we'll see. Well,
(54:55):
we'll do the college football picks next, we'll do Danny
Cannell in fifteen minutes back here on the Big League
Fox Sports Radio. Is this the new eminem Nick? It is?
I love how you're like so into I mean, obviously
(55:18):
for your job, but you're so into the new music
and up on, have you heard the whole album yet?
The whole um. Yes, it's it's great. I think it's
one of his best. Really, yep, better than Alonzo ball
or no, it's he's just compared. Well, I asked you
because I haven't heard a Lonzo. I don't listen to Eminem. No,
(55:40):
he's not better than Eminem. What about Cole Beasley white
rapper from the Cowboys. Oh, yeah, we played him a
while ago. Yeah, that's that. Should we expect Baker Mayfield
to drop a mixtape? No? Wow, that would be something. Listen, hey,
that would be on brand for Baker Mayfield, right, I men,
we talk about brands. He can is that one jif
(56:02):
of him? Like breaking It? What's that dance called? Yeah,
this is a a studio that's not up to speed
on you know, dance moves for nineteen year olds? Uh?
Onward we go. What does it mean when Geico says
just fifteen minutes could save you fifteen or more on
(56:23):
car insurance? Means you probably should have gone to Geico
dot com fifteen minutes ago. Uh, we're gonna talk to
Danny Cannell here in about ten minutes, buddy of mine.
I don't know if I'll mentioned the playmate that he dated,
we'll see, we'll see ladies and gentlemen. Uh. College football,
it's you know, it's kind of an okay slate, I
(56:46):
I you know, the first thing everybody wants to do
is look for Okay, well, who are the top twenty
five matchups? And I'm going down the list. Uh Notre Dame. No, Oh,
Texas A and m Alabama. That's a game I picked.
Oh it's nearly a four touchdown spread. Okay, we'll get
back to that in a second. One other what else?
Top twenty five, Top twenty five, Let's see Oklahoma now,
(57:07):
the thirty one point favorites against Army. Let's see SEC
big nothing. There's no top twenty five matchups except tonight.
And we'll start here with the marquee game on the schedule. Stanford, Oregon.
David Shaw, the good Stanford coach. Just news flash, people,
(57:28):
he will not be the next USC coach. I know
USC fans who are out on Clay Helton, They're like, oh,
let's go get David Shaw. It's not happening. The USC
is too smart. They know Shaw is not going anywhere.
You can try to money whip him, not gonna happen.
He's locked in on Stanford. The NFL even knows. Don't
waste your time. Don't wait. David Shaw is not going anywhere.
(57:51):
David Shaw is a great coach. He's gonna get Bryce
Love back from what I believe is a concussion injury. Now,
Stanford tried to keep it under wraps. They called it
an undisclosed injury. But this happened two weeks ago. If
you remember the USC game, at the end they had
they were nursing a lead, like under three minutes left,
(58:12):
just handed it off to Bryce Love. He got drilled
in the head, stood up and was wobbling. Not a
lot of people caught this, Uh, but Bryce Love was done. Uh,
it looked pretty bad. He didn't play last week. He
returns today. Oregon opened as the favorite. They're playing at home.
They got a future NFL quarterback and Justin Herbert h
(58:34):
he could be a first round pick. Let's see. He
struggled last week against interior competition. My problem here is
all the money has moved the line. Stanfords a one
and a half. I think they're at two and a half.
I hope you got it earlier. Uh. If it touches three,
there's obviously value on Oregon going the other way. But
Stanford's now a one and a half point favorite. They
(58:54):
have beaten Oregon the last two times by combined one
oh one to thirty four. Not even close. Oregon one
of the most untested teams in the country. How can
you be a top twenty five team when you've beaten Bowling, Green,
Portland's State and San Jose State, Like, come on, I'm
taking Stanford favorable. I got one and a half, if
(59:15):
you get two and a half, I think there's still
value on on Stanford. I don't know about plus three.
Let's go to an underdog now and listening. If you
guys have been following the Picks weekly, you remember a
couple of weeks ago, I took Kansas State Bill Snyder
at home as a dog against No no, actually yeah,
they were at home as a dog against Mississippi State
(59:37):
and they got slaughtered. Well, I'm taking them as a
dog in another spot now. This time they're on the
road against another offensive machine in West Virginia. Kansas State
getting last I checked sixteen points. That's a lot. That
is a lot of points. It looks like it's down
to fifteen and a half in Morgantown. We know those
(59:59):
fans at Couch Burning University in West Virginia. They're not
gonna be too liquored up for a twelve thirty. Uh.
I'm sorry for a three thirty kickoff. If it were
at night, I probably would not take Kansas Day here,
but I'm gonna take sixteen points. Bill Snyder is just
great as an underdog. It's probably safer to take them
(01:00:21):
first half because West Virginia did not play last week.
Their game was canceled due to Hurricane Florence. Can they
stop Will Greer? Probably not, but I think they'll be
able to score enough against Dana Holgers. It's Wildcats. I'm
taking the sixteen points in Kansas State. Next up Louisiana Tech.
Don't know a damn thing about Louisiana Tech. Don't know
anything about their quarterback. I know they got a lot
(01:00:42):
of good players because they're in SEC territory and they
get a lot of the kids who don't make it
into the Sash. I'm taking them plus twenty one, simply
a spot play because l s U, of course, coming
off a huge win last week over Auburn, wanted on
the field goal at the Horn simply a play against
(01:01:04):
l s U. Not caring against Louisiana Tech. You know
l s U as old missed next week. I think
Louisiana Tech getting twenty one is to play another hold
your nose underdog. Missouri getting fourteen and a half against Georgia,
Missouri at home. They've got an NFL quarterback and Drew Lock.
(01:01:25):
Similar situation in Kansas State. I played against Georgia two
weeks ago. I took South Carolina and Georgia just murdered him.
It was ugly, but I'm taking Missouri here. Drew Lock
threw four t d s against Georgia last year and
that loaded defense. They got obliterated, but he played well,
and two years ago he passed three seventy six yards
(01:01:46):
and three t d s in a one point loss.
I'm just taking the fourteen and a half and Drew
Lock at home today against Georgia and finally Alabama. I
know you're not supposed to play big favorite producer Gavin
was like, dude, twenty six, it was a seven down
to twenty five and a half. Listen, I gotta play Alabama.
(01:02:07):
I gotta ride that train, the to a train now
Texas A and M is a little better then Louisville,
Texas A and M a little better than Old miss
But I just think this Alabama offense, they're not gonna
they're gonna be scoring fifty again. So I'm taking Alabama
favorite by twenty five and a half. That sounds embarrassing
(01:02:28):
to say, Kansas State getting sixteen, Louise in a Tech
getting one, Missouri getting fourteen and a half, and Stanford
tonight in the game of the week. I'm always gonna
try to pick the game of the week. I'm not
gonna hit you with a Louisiana Monroe because like I
don't want to talk about the game. I want to
pick the game that you guys are gonna watch where
(01:02:50):
I think I can win. So there's the picks four
and one last week. There's no shot of four and
one this week. Good luck, ladies and gentlemen. Coming up
next year. On the lead Fox Sports Radio, my man
Danny Cannell stops by. We're gonna ask him about struggling
Struggling f s U and I'm gonna talk to him
abou about Pat Mahomes, a quarterback, an NFL quarterback he
(01:03:13):
really likes. But first go to Isaac Loewen Crown for
the Latest and sport Jason. We begin with a Major
League Baseball playoff chase. We're on Friday night. Oakland's Chris
Davis continued his magical season. Five ball right center field,
back on at his cave, to the track at the
wall own. It goes unbelievable. Chris Davis takes the team
(01:03:36):
on his back and he beats the Twins inten the
call on kgmz is. Davis his second home run of
the night and major league leading forty home run of
the season gave the A's of seven six victory. Oakland's
magic number to clinch a wild card spot is three.
In the National League West, the Rockies one at Arizona
six to two, while the last place Padres upset the
(01:03:58):
first place Dodgers five, So the first place Dodgers lead
over Colorado now down to a game and a half.
Golf Tiger Woods and Justin Rose tied for the lead
after two rounds of the Tour Championship at seven under
with Rory McElroy two shots back. And finally, today, September
twenty two is a notable date for a couple of reasons.
(01:04:19):
Today's Hall of Fame manager Tommy la Short is ninety
one birthday, and it's also the eleven year anniversary of
one of the great postgame rants in sports history. Hi
for me, I'm a man, I'm forty. That's right. Oklahoma
State head coach Mike Gunde's epic rant happened eleven years
(01:04:41):
ago today. Has it really been that long? Jason? Back
to you, Isaac, hold on, can we play any more
of that rant? Hi for me for I can find
an extended version somewhere. I'm sure it's not too difficult.
I mean that that's legendary. Where would you rank that
among rants? Fine coaches? Because there's a lot of good
(01:05:01):
ones out there, Isaac, Well, there's there's Dennis Green, the
Bears are who we thought they were and we get uh.
There's the Tommy Losorda Dave Kingman. What was your opinion
of Kingman's performance? There was the Tommy Losorda Kurt Bovakua rant,
which I don't think we could play on the air
(01:05:22):
that too many. Yeah, but that's among the tops right there.
I gotta get one from Bill Belichick before he retires,
but I don't think that's possible. I said one more.
And you're the baseball guy. What's the status of the
Dodgers making the playoffs? Just quickly break it down for
me in thirty seconds. If they play the Rockies and
Diamondbacks the rest of the way, they're fine. But the
problem is they're playing the Padres, so there's still a
(01:05:44):
chance against deep six. When they play the Rockies and Diamondbacks,
they're dominant. But for some reason against the lesser teams,
the Padres and Reds, they turned into a different team.
So incomplete, Hey, we're getting close, like ten days left,
just one week? Yeah, thank you, Isaac. Back here on
the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio. I am your host,
(01:06:05):
Jason McIntyre, coming to you live from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say or more on
car insurance with Geico, go to Geico dot com call
seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out which way
is easier. Joining the show now, Mom Man, former college
(01:06:26):
football legend. Uh. He had a cup of coffee in
the NFL with the New York Giants. Probably more than
a couple of coffee. I think he was in there
for a few years. Uh famously dated a centerfold. He's
Instagram famous. I mean, this guy's a legend. Danny Canal,
CBS Sports HQ. Danny, good morning. What what city are
you in today? I am in Boca Raton, Florida. Home
(01:06:50):
game for me this weekend. I get to stay at
home actually get to watch some football. So I am
popped up. It wasn't a cup of coffee. It was
of fensie. That's what it was. Well played, listen. Danny
Cannell is another one of these guys who he's never
not working. I'm trying to make that hashtag happen, Danny,
because you are. I mean, how many days a week
do you work? Six man? There are no office Sunday
(01:07:12):
and then Sunday on Mr Dad because I got three
baby girls. They want to see their dads. I'm running
all over Caddy and actually Caddy from my eleven year old.
That's like my job on Sunday. So there's there are
no day off, dude. Listen. That's what it's about in sports, right.
We're working all the time and it's fun. If I
didn't like that, I mean, if I was doing TPS
reports in an office, I would be hating life. But
(01:07:32):
we're I know this is I know this is your interview.
Could I bump in and give you a hard time?
Real quick? Go ahead? Are we gonna talk Baker Mayfield? Yeah,
I got peep with you, as does the entire country.
As peep with you when you're on the man for
bringing out his cell phone. It is eighteen. He's bringing
out his cell phone after the game. It's not like
you was tweeting in the third quarter of the bench.
(01:07:53):
Come on, Okay, so Danny Good, let's start there, because
I think, uh, Nuance, you know this. You can't. It's
tough gonna go with context and nuance on TV, and
it's even tougher when people pull a clip. Here was
my argument we talked about on the show. I like
Baker Mayfield, but I just thought it was weird that
when sixty thousand people in the stadium or cheering for you,
(01:08:14):
you have the game of your life, you're in the
locker room for maybe two or three minutes, and you
come out with your phone. This is a guy we know.
According to a Sports Illustrated story, he's on social media
all the time. He's got a list of anybody who's
wronged him. Okay, he likes tweets, He fires back at you,
even if you don't put his name in the tweet
(01:08:36):
or on Instagram, he's gonna find you. I just found
it a little odd that in the minute or two
that he was in the locker room he grabbed his phone.
I think it's what we do. I think we're all addicted.
How many how many NFL quarterbacks with the history of
social media firing back controls, you know, going after people.
(01:08:58):
How many NF felt quarterbacks? You know what a face
of the franchise is? Danny is, Andrew Luck doing that is,
Russell Wilson, is Aaron Rodgers? Is Tom Brady right after
a game going on social media? And I don't know
that he did go on social media, but given his history,
I'm gonna assume maybe he did. Now, maybe he was,
you know, getting text from his family. Big night for him.
(01:09:21):
But I I just if you're a face of the franchise,
and we know that NFL owners want their guys buttoned up.
In the NBA, that's cool, man, Hey, go for it whatever.
But in the NFL, it's a little different, is it not.
I do I think it's different. But I think this
really is the evolution of the superstar. I mean, we
really are seeing a change in the last two to
ten years since really since Twitter became popular. Facebook is
(01:09:44):
one thing, but Twitter does seem to be the one
that everybody's attracted to, and it is different. But think
how far we've come, Jason, Because when I in this,
I hate I hate what guys who do what I
was playing. No, this is good. It makes you sound
really all when you say that, But think how far
we've come when I was playing. Use it if you
were asked to do an interview either before the game
or during the game, late in the game from the sideline,
(01:10:06):
like you see sometimes in the preseason. But I'm talking
about like the minutes before the game. Now it is
not uncommon to see players give interviews moments before the game.
Right that was unheard of. It would have been, Oh,
you're not focused, you're not you're not into the game.
I actually like it. I like that we get interviews
from the sideline reporters with players with coaches the minute
before the game, get a little bit more of what's
(01:10:27):
on their mind. And I think that happens, you know,
probably ten years ago. We've been seeing that for ten years.
Then you've seen the evolution of social media where players
are responding to their trolls. They're getting their own voice
out there there. You know, if a reporter goes after him,
they'll clap back almost instantly on Twitter. They'll they'll get
to have their voice out there. I think it's refreshing,
but I also think it's dangerous. And I think that's
(01:10:49):
the difference. And that's what Baker Mayfield has to be
careful of. He doesn't want to be caught getting in
some argument with some you know guy who's tweeting from
his basement calling him out, saying he can't like quarterback.
He doesn't want to be fired back at him. I
think it's entertaining when he hires back at Colin Cowherd,
when he goes on his show. At least he went
on his show like credit. He went on Colin show
after Colin called him out, you know, challenge him on it,
(01:11:12):
went toe to toe. And I think it's good and
that's who he is. That's the thing. Baker Mayfield is cocky.
But I don't think it's a cockiness that's to his
detriment yet. I mean, as long as you win, you've
gotta win. And and Danny, we know I've read the
stories we talked about it here on the show, like
social media is addictive, okay, in like in an unhealthy way, Instagram, Twitter,
(01:11:35):
this stuff is not good for your brain. And I
just believe the quarterbacks like Pat Mahomes is on fire.
Have you do you even know what his voice sounds like?
I don't even know if he's on social media, and
like now Baker Mayfield laps that up. But as you said,
it was great at Oklahoma. He was on top of
the world. He's doing the throat slash. It's fine. What's
(01:11:56):
gonna happen if he's like mediocre in their four and twelve, Well,
at some point, at some point this season, he's gonna
have a rough game. It's just you know, it's the
laws of It's the law of physics. Like you play
quarterback in this league. He's gonna have a game where
he throws three or four interceptions that they lose. That's
when I would caution him on going on social media.
It's not that easy to just turn it off, is not. No, No,
(01:12:18):
it's not. And that's like that's when it gets challenging.
And that's when I wonder about the mental impact that
it has because I think a lot of guys do it.
I think a lot of quarterbacks think a lot of
players go in as soon as the game's over, they
fire up their feed. They want to see what people
are saying. And it's just it's that negative reinforcement. I
don't know if it does you much good. And some
players will say, yeah, I use it as a chip
(01:12:39):
on my shoulder. I use it to get me fired up.
I'm gonna prove them wrong. But at some point it's
gonna take a toll on you start reading all these
things I do. I would tend to trust the quarterback
more who didn't pay attention to so was able to
ignore it. But this is what Baker Mayfield has thrived
on ever since he was a walk on at Texas Tech,
where he started his career. He thrives on when the
(01:13:00):
haters wrong and so I has the formula's work for him.
It just makes me nervous a bit working for everybody. Did.
We're talking with Danny Cannell at Serious XM radio host,
CBS Sports HQ, and Danny, you're exactly right, and now
it works at Oklahoma right, big Fish, small pond, No
big deal, bro, You're an NFL quarterback. This is national.
(01:13:20):
There's gonna be every peron. I mean the NFL eight
million people watch that game lesson or Thursday night. That
was eleventh most watch game in NFL network history. It's
only gonna get bigger. The stakes are gonna rise. I
just don't know if you can continue to use that.
And again you said players do it, Antonio Brown, Levi
on Bell, that's fine. You know, position skill players, Jalen Ramsey, whatever, quarterback,
(01:13:45):
Danny you played quarterback. I don't know that you want
those distractions, do you. I don't think it's a healthy thing,
but I think we're dealing and this is the look
social media last ten years. You know, smartphone, it's all
one big social experiment, which is kind of gary. I
have young kids that terrifies me that they're addicted already
and tell me eleven years old, of minute, it's scary.
(01:14:06):
I don't know what impact is. I don't think anybody
truly knows the impact it has. But this is what
Baker Mayfield and other quarterbacks. You You're gonna see this
happening more often because it's normal for them to go
grab their cell phone and open up their their feet
and see what people are saying that's the new normal.
I do wonder though, the impact it's gonna have. So
I get the concern, but I think this is something
(01:14:26):
we're all gonna have to get used to because it's
the error that we live in. It's a good, good discussion,
smart discussion. See now, if I had eloquated it the
way you just did on Cowherd Show, I would not
have had eighty million people come after me. All right,
So Danny, I'll get you out of here on two. Uh,
Willie Taggart ugly start. He's got a twenty one million
dollar buyout. Can you just tell the FSU fans he's
(01:14:48):
not going anywhere? Yeah? I tried to. I mean I
went out and I did an emergency video on him
on my Twitter page to try to get people to
calm down. But I would also, you know, I should
attacked on there. I should attacked U c. L A
With If Kelly, should have checked Arkansas fans with Chad Morris,
Nebraska fans with Scott Frost. This is the thing. It
is the first year, it's only three games, and I
(01:15:09):
think people forget when you hire a new coach it
is basically like starting over from scratch. Especially when you
think how differently things are gonna be done at Florida
State than they have been under Jim Bill Fisher. Willie
Taggart implementing a new offense, a new defense, he's got
new kids on the roster, and guess what, By the way,
at least Florida State. I can say this. They played
(01:15:31):
against two good teams. And I know people say, well,
it's Syracuse. Syracuse is a good football team. Let's see
how the season plays out. Virginia Tech they're a good
football team. They're both undefeated. Those are not horrific losses. Now,
I don't want to sugarcoat it because it has been ugly.
There have been some ugly game management clock situations that
have not been pretty for Willie Taggart. But people, it
(01:15:51):
is way too soon after three weeks to make a
knee jerk reaction on your head coach, wherever you are. Now,
this is personal for me because it's Florida State. But
just breathe deep. And what I keep telling Florida State
fans is this doesn't mind you know my speech to
you know, keep saying behind by Taggert, it doesn't mean
they're going to run the table. I'm trying to get
them to relax because it could be a bumpy, rocky
(01:16:12):
year for Florida State. Just breathe deep, you know, try
to withstand the storm and it will be okay. You've
got to trust your higher at some point. All right,
last question, Jenny Cannell, is Clay Hilton gonna be back?
And if not, will Pete Carroll replace him? That's a
good one. Now. See, that's the issue that I think
USC runs run through. And I saw his name trending.
(01:16:34):
You know, I was up late watching that game with
block feel go lait. Here's the issue, and I would
ask this for everybody every school is considering a change,
and especially USC because you know, living out there, you
know the expectation were USC. We deserve a brand coach
like we need a superstar. And I think that's a
lot of why Clay Hilton has taken a lot of
heat is because he wasn't the sexy higher. You know,
(01:16:54):
he's elevated from within UM. But you're talking about a
coach back to back ten win season. He on the
pat twelve last year, and USC fans are upset, like,
I don't understand it. If it makes no sense to me. Yeah,
if you had Pete Carroll locked up, which is a
very big question mark, I think it would probably be
more unlikely than it would be likely, then yeah, go
ahead and make that move. But if you're going to
(01:17:16):
move on from Clay Helton, where are you going? You know,
where are you gonna hire? That's gonna be a sex
year better. Higher is Mike Tomlin going to leave the
Steelers with no no chance? So it's always beware of
the other option because look at these schools now, like
Florida State, like u c l A. Look at the
schools I mentioned it. When you change coaches, you are
starting over. Did USC really want to do that right now?
(01:17:38):
That would be my question for them? Wow? All right.
Danny Cannell, great stuff. He's a serious XM radio host,
CBS Sports HQ. He's popular on social media. Danny, Hey,
great stuff, And now thanks for not killing me on
bacon making. Okay, Mac, take it easy, man, Danny Cannell, good, dude,
knows his stuff. He's solid on air, man, he's good. Uh.
Coming up next year on the Big League Fox Sports Radio,
(01:18:01):
We're gonna expand on that Pete Carol to USC theory.
And you know, on the big lead Fox Sports Radio.
Great stuff from Danny Cannell. I've been telling f s
you we need I've been telling FS one we need
Cannell out here. Man. He's just he's good. He's easy
to work with. People want to work with them. He's fun.
(01:18:23):
Love love chopping it up with Danny Cannell. And listen,
he gave me some static for the Baker Mayfield. But
then okay, and we had a discussion and it was
actually a pretty intelligent discussion. And I think all these
Browns fans and these jabronies who were coming after me
my Instagram and Twitter, they hear that, they'll be like, oh, well,
(01:18:43):
maybe they're onto something. Maybe we shouldn't be obsessed over
our phones and social media. And I'm just gonna repeat,
look around the NFL, how many franchise quarterbacks are clapping
back controls. How many franchise quarterbacks are going after people
(01:19:06):
who talk about them in a negative manner? Even the
media like franchise quarterbacks aren't doing that. But we'll we'll
do more on that later. I'm sure, um we're gonna
do NFL picks. Listen, folks, I've been money the last
two weeks. I know it can't last, because that's just that.
My history says I'll go hot and then I'll go
(01:19:26):
super cold. I'm concerned about this week. I'm eight and
two in the in the super contest, tied for ninth
out of three thousand people. So like, let me do
a victory lap now, because I don't think it's gonna last.
It's so tough. There is nothing tough for to gamble
on in American sports. Then the NFL, there's so much information.
(01:19:49):
The lines are so tight. There's more value in like
college football w n b A. You can find angles
there if you pay attention. Because the Vegas books and
even the off shores, they're not spending as much time
on that because not as many people bet. The limits
aren't as high. So anyways, I started a podcast to
(01:20:10):
talk about the process and everything. It's called Coming Up Winners.
Go to iTunes, downloaded, subscribe all that stuff that they
say all the time, leave a review. So Coming Up
Winners check that out. I will talk about it. We'll
do Monday and Thursday and then on this show. You
guys know we've talked about it, the gambling gold rush.
(01:20:31):
I got some intel last night that I will share
with my FS one colleagues on Monday about other networks
and their plans, because again, people like to talk to
me and tell me stuff. It's so funny. I'll see
the executives. I'll always have something in the chamber for
them in regard to news or information that can help them.
(01:20:53):
And people are always like, wait, wait, how do you
where do you hear this stuff? People like to talk
to me, people tell me stuff, um really quickly before
we go to break here. I did go on the
Herd and talk about Baker Mayfield. But the other thing
I talked about was I tried to project what the
big story will be Monday, and I think we'll dive
(01:21:14):
into it later in the show, but I briefly wanted
to give you one of them that we've talked about
a couple of times. Keep an eye on sixty seven
year old Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks. They're owing too.
They got the Cowboys Sunday and a big must win.
I mean, I don't think they can sniff the playoffs
this year, but if they lose that in their own three,
(01:21:35):
I think Pete Carroll will be checked out. Now USC's
Clayhealton got the big win last night. I don't know
if they'll be able to keep that up. Personally, I
don't think they will keep an eye on Pete Carroll
in USC. Justin Wilcox could be in the mix. I
don't know if they alums love him. Coming up next
on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio, my twelve Pack,
I ranked the twelve best teams in the NFL. Welcome back,
(01:22:00):
ladies and gentlemen. It's high noon on the East Coast,
nine am here in l A. Thank you for joining
us today here on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio.
I am your host, Jason McIntyre, coming to you live
from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could
save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Visit
(01:22:24):
Geico dot com for a free rate quote. Man, I'm excited.
We've had a good show. We buzzed through two hours
rather quickly. We have j Glazer coming up in twenty
seven minutes. NFL Insider. I mean I'd ask him about injuries,
(01:22:45):
but holy cow, half the league is hurt now. The
good news is that the quarterbacks have not been injured.
And when you want to look at the NFL. And
see how it's been on fire these first two weeks.
I mean absolutely torrid. It's because the quarterbacks are back.
People forget last year when everybody was bashing the NFL
(01:23:07):
ratings and keeping Kaepernick out of the league and the
President's bashing them and all the like. People are forgetting
how hurt the league was last year. Aaron Rodgers got
injured and was done. He came back for a second,
Andrew Luck injured, Deshaun Watson played six games. He was
(01:23:29):
like on top of the league injured. You can't lose
star quarterbacks. Carson Wentz went down late in the season.
That was that hurt. It was the m VP of
the league. When you got star quarterbacks getting injured. Because
we know how important quarterback as a position is to
this league, you're gonna be in trouble. Quarterbacks are white people,
(01:23:53):
tune in. We've said this at nausea. You don't have
a quarterback, you don't have a chance, like he is
not gonna win many games without a good quarterback. And
now all the quarterbacks are healthy, and you've got the
young blood Baker Mayfield. He came in for what two
(01:24:14):
and a half quarters, maybe less than two and a
half quarters and was so good that the audience for
Jets Browns. I know, we said it was the eleventh
most watched game in NFL network history, an average of
eight million. But in the final, you know, quarter final,
like six seven minutes, when Mayfield was driving the Browns
(01:24:37):
for the go ahead score and snapping that long losing streak,
Jets Browns had ten million viewers. Ten million for two
teams that stink, two teams that haven't been to the
playoffs and forever, and they had a massive audience. I'm
telling you right now, the NFL is absolutely hot. It's
(01:24:58):
I mean, they're the interest level is absurdly high. And listen,
I know NBA's coming here in less than a month.
By the way, NBA fans, we did talk Lakers and
Jimmy Butler. It's not out of the picture. I'll touch
on it in a little bit. But the NBA pushed
up its schedule, and I know Tinder, Nick, degenerate NBA gambler. Nick.
(01:25:20):
You know, the NBA usually starts at Halloween. They pushed
it up to the middle of October because they want
to space out those back to backs on the road,
which the players hate. And like Warriors players are sitting
out and everybody's skipping games, they pushed the schedule to
middle of October. I have long said that November was
the best month for sports. You've got NFL games that matter,
(01:25:45):
College football games that matter, especially when it comes to
playoff jockeying, the rivalry games around Thanksgiving week, NBA. You know,
I'm a huge college basketball fan. It's college basketball fan.
So you've got like NBA, college basketball, NFL, and college football.
November I've long said was the best. This October is
(01:26:08):
gonna be crazy because you're gonna have NBA for two weeks.
You don't have college basketball, but you'll have the MLB postseason,
which you know, and and I should bring Isaac in
to talk about this. But when you look at the
MLB postseason, you're looking at Red Sox, you're looking at Yankees.
I think, let me quickly check the wild card. Yeah,
(01:26:30):
Yankees are still in the in the wild card mix
Red Sox, Yankees, The Astros are gonna be there. You
got the Cubs, You've got the Dodgers. So the baseball
playoffs are gonna be hot. October is just gonna be
so good. But right now, the NFL is on fire,
and we are going to talk about my j Mac
twelve pack. We debuted it last week, the twelve best
(01:26:53):
teams in the NFL. Why because twelve teams make the playoffs.
I know, crazy, right, twelve? Now this week, I don't
want to people to get too upset, but I had
to leave off three unbeaten teams. And again, I'm not
just looking at what you've done in two weeks. This
is also a forward looking metric. Okay, So don't kill
(01:27:16):
me when the Bucks just beat the Eagles last week.
But the Eagles are ranked higher than the box. Now
that's not insane, is it? Guy? I mean Gavin right,
Carson Once returns tomorrow for the Eagles. They had Nick
Foles in last week. They lost in Tampa. Nobody thinks
Tampa is a better team than Philadelphia, right, Most people
(01:27:40):
do not know. Most logical, sane people. Uh, the New
England Patriots, they just got Sheldon Jacksonville. They're not gonna
leave the list suddenly. Guys. That's just not how it works.
That's not how I operate. Uh. So there are gonna
be some teams that you know gonna miss the list.
So let's go through it that Jay at twelve packs
(01:28:00):
starting at number twelve. I've got the Chicago Bears still
at number twelve. They are only one in one number.
I love a lot about this team. I'm telling you
that defense. I'm not as concerned about the offense as
everyone else. Um, Mitch Drabinsky has a new offense. He's learning.
Mitch Drabinski has three new receivers. They've got a new
(01:28:24):
head coach. I mean, it's just so many new parts
that I can't freak out about. The offense struggling now.
They are in a tough spot. They have the Arizona
Cardinals on the road this weekend. Their favored by a
lie as dangerous. The line was at six. It's down
to five. Some big money on the Cardinals. I have
(01:28:45):
the Bears at twelve. Number eleven, Miami Dolphins. They crack
the list. The Dolphins now two and oh they host
Oakland tomorrow. I like the Dolphins a lot in that one.
Miami listen, they could be a playoff team this year.
We said it in the preseason. Adam Gaze plus Ryan
(01:29:06):
Tannehill keep an eye on the Dolphins at number eleven.
Number ten Cincinnati Bengals listen too, and oh, dangerous spot
in Carolina for them this week. Don't love the Bengals,
but they are improved. I saw a number again. This
is stuff nobody really talks about because everybody focuses on uh,
(01:29:28):
star quarterbacks and and wins. Take a look at what
Andy Dalton has done since Bill Laser, now the offensive
coordinator has been there for sixteen games. He's had put
up really good numbers. If the defense shows up, they
could win in Carolina. So I got number ten Cincinnati Bengals,
(01:29:48):
number nine. I know there's gonna be some consternation here.
The l A Chargers. Oh, some fist pubs in the room.
L A Chargers one and one. They beat the Bills,
the sexiest win in the world. Uh, they didn't destroy them,
although they did lead to six and then took the
foot off the pedal in the second half. I've got
(01:30:08):
the Chargers at number nine. Bears twelve, Dolphins eleven, Bengals ten,
Chargers nine. I got the Falcons at eight. Uh, probably
gonna be some pushback here Atlanta. You know, maybe they're
red zone woes are solved. Four for four in the
red zone last week against the Falcons. Against the Panthers
in a win seven Patriots. I'm not gonna sell the
(01:30:32):
Patriots because they lost the Jack. I can't okay, Julian
Edelman is gonna be back here. Uh. I believe in
two weeks he's got he's got the suspension. He's um
gotta serve. They just added Josh Gordon. I got the
Patriots at seven, Eagles at six, and again, you can't
sweat the small stuff. Yes, they lost. Everybody's hurting, you know,
(01:30:56):
no Jayed Gy Tomorrow there's a team that's will beat up.
I got the Eagles six. Best team in the NFL,
Packers at five. Have it looked that good? I know
the Vegas power rankings UM for the Packers are not
super high because outside Aaron Rodgers are not very good.
I don't love them this weekend. Hint hint. NFL picks
coming up next, Packers at five. New Orleans Saints at four.
(01:31:20):
I know that's crazy. They're owing two against the spread.
Haven't had mark Ingram started the last couple of years slow.
Sean Payton is very good at adjustments. I'm by low
on the Saints right now at one and one, the
third best team in the NFL right now the Jacksonville Jaguars. Yes, sir,
(01:31:40):
ladies and gentlemen, coverage to spread twice one at the
Giants shut down. That offense obliterated the Patriots. Nobody beats
the Patriots by double digits. Come on, Jacks, look good man.
I I was a bit low on them in the preseason.
I might have just missed the vote. I didn't think
they could do kated and uh like portless. Look shockingly competent. Jaguars.
(01:32:05):
Third best team in the NFL. Number two. Minnesota Vikings
had him at one last week. Gotta bump them down
because they didn't pull out a win because they're kicking situation.
Holy hell, was it bad. I mean it was awful.
They how do you miss two game winning kicks? It overtime?
Come on, Vikings, number two, number one. It's gotta be
the Rams. Rams play the Chargers and Nick is at
(01:32:27):
the game of the week Rams Chargers. I think it's
gotta be. It's gotta be. I mean, I'm fired up
to go to this game tomorrow. Should be an offensive
orgy at the Coliseum. So Mike J. Mac twelve pack.
The Rams are the number one team in the NFL,
followed by the Vikings, Jaguars, Saints, Packers, Eagles at six,
(01:32:47):
Patriots at seven, Falcons at eight, Chargers at not, Bengals, ten, Dolphins, eleven, Bears,
twelve just missing the cut the Kansas City Chiefs and
the Tampa Bay Bucks. And yes, Kansas City has beaten
a team a top there, the Chargers, and they beat
the Steelers, who, by the way, dropped out of the
(01:33:09):
top twelve. That's how bad the Steelers were. I just
had to take him out of there, just so unimpressive.
Had to boot them. Uh, listen, it happens to the
best of the Steelers kicked Twuzie Curb. There's your j
Mac twelve pack. Coming up next here on the Big
Lead Fox Sports Radio. I'll quickly buzzed through my NFL
(01:33:29):
picks and the super contest Ta can't join us this week.
I have his picks. We'll talk about NFL picks next
here on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio. Back here
on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio, Boy Missouri George's
fun so Jake from was intercepted. George's quarterback was picked
(01:33:50):
off by Missouri. It looked like he ran it back
to the house, but he had stepped out, so what happens.
Missouri is driving, and if you saw the Colts Bengals
game in Week one, Andrew Luck was driving, he threw
it to his tight end, the tight end got stripped,
and it was run back for a touchdown. That also
just happened to Missouri. Drew Lock completes a pass, the
(01:34:13):
guy's got the ball, the tight ends fighting for some
extra yards, Boom stripped fumble return for a touchdown, and
Georgia takes a seven nothing lead against Missouri. I mean,
I gotta say, and we've talked about this before, Georgia
and is so so far ahead of I mean, it's
(01:34:33):
basically Alabama Georgia, and you know they are just so
far ahead of everyone else. Clumson's up there. But when
you look at Alabama and Georgia and the speed they have,
I mean, if somebody gets anywhere near the open field,
Georgia just you're not catching them. You're just so fast.
(01:34:55):
I do think Missouri's alive dog today. I picked him,
but they're now They're down seven nothing midway through the
first quarter. Not a lot of other great action. Looks
like Notre Dame made a quarterback change. I'm always keeping
one eye on Notre Dame, just historical reasons that one
of my buddies went there and they got a great
fight song. They're at wake Forest today. Nothing nothing, but
(01:35:17):
they made a change of quarterback. Looks like Ian Book
has taken over for whim Bush. Whin Bush the option guy, Book,
more of the pocket passer. There it is Nick, thank you.
So just that's just a snippet of what's going on
in college football so far. Best game of the night
will be Stanford Oregon. That's the one game you absolutely
(01:35:37):
need to get to a TV. For Michigan Nebraska, tough
start for Scottie Frost. I was bullish on them. They're
owing to They gave up a long touchdown to Michigan
and are down seven. Nothing. Um, let me get to
the next big talking point, which is NFL Picks of
the Week. And as I said earlier in the show,
I've had a good run, two good weeks to four
(01:35:59):
and I'm in the super contest. I'm ninth, tied for
ninth out of three thousand people. And it's just like,
I don't love the card this weekend. I just don't.
It's tough and every game I like, I look around
the internet and you know, I'll try to find people
and fade them. I'd be like, that guy has no
(01:36:20):
idea what he's talking about. That's a dumb pick. I'm
gonna go the opposite, and I'm able to do that.
Uh and again, I've been doing a lot more research.
You know. Again, we talked about the gambling gold Rush
and sports. I've been doing a lot more research on
the NFL gambling. It's the toughest market to crack. The
NFL market is brood over, the lines are tight, a
(01:36:41):
lot of information out there. So I started a podcast
called Coming Up Winners. You can find it on iTunes.
I'll talk about all the games at length. Let's talk
about the process I go through to pick games. I
got a smart guy on there with me who was
in the World Series of Poker a couple of times,
and he really knows his stuff. So I got that
that came out this week. But I just hate the
(01:37:04):
card this week. The super contest lines are are ugly,
and I'll give you my picks quickly. Usually Ta joins
us he's not able to this week, so I have
his picks. We have too similar. I'll go through mine
really quickly. For I took the Saints as three point
dogs in Atlanta. Something about this game I just feel
(01:37:26):
like a bit of a come doown is coming for Atlanta.
The series is always close when these two face off
UH in Atlanta. I think the last five were settled
by something like three point eight points per game, so
we know it's gonna be close. Michael Thomas of the
Saints is the guy to watch. He has just just
(01:37:48):
obliterated the Atlanta secondary in their three UH four matchups.
He has three touchdowns, four yards. He just owns Atlanta.
And the other part is Ristan McCaffrey had fourteen catches
last week, fourteen catches. Alvin Kamara is gonna do much
(01:38:08):
of the same for the Saints, and I'll take the
Saints in three points next up. I like the Miami Dolphins.
This is a risky pick because if you look at
where the money is on this one, it's a lot
of sharp money has driven the line down down. It
was four, it was three and a half, it's three.
(01:38:29):
I took three points. I think I'm getting the better team.
I do believe Oakland, the oldest team in the NFL.
I can see them wilting in the second half of
the Miami Heat, just like they've wilted in the second
half of their first two games. They're outscored forty three
to seven. Oakland is in the second half against um
(01:38:50):
the Rams and against the Broncos. So I can see
Miami pulling away. I'm gonna need him bad because these
other three games are reluctantly. I took the Colts get
six and a half at Carson Wentz. Why would you
do that, Jason, Well, this is a play against the
very beat up Philadelphia Eagles, Jag. I will not play,
(01:39:11):
Darren Sprawls, will not play. Corey Clement is gonna be
their guy. Al Sean Jeffrey may finally get into the game.
He hasn't played yet this season due to injury. So
that offense is beat up, really beat up. And I
just like everything I see about the Colts. Remember number
one in the league on third down. And then of
(01:39:34):
course there's the Frank Reich facts. Frank Reich, of course,
was the offensive coordinator of the Eagles the last two years.
He knows that offense well. He built that offense for
Carson Wentz. He knows it. And don't sleep on the
Colts defense, folks, It's not awful. I know you'd think,
oh cold, they've been so awful recently, they're so bad.
(01:39:57):
They're not good. Colt defense is not bad. You gotta
key linebacker Rooud eighteen tackles eighteen tackles last week against
the Redskins, So uh, you know, I think there's a shot.
If you want to put some money, just sprinkle a
little bit on the money line. Wouldn't be shocked if
the Colts beat the Eagles. Listen that Eagles secondary got
(01:40:20):
shredded by Fitzpatrick. Julio Jones owned them in Week one.
I think t Y Hilton could have a big game.
Keep an eye on this Colt. The Colts are a
live dog. But again, you go against the Eagles, hey man,
that's that's a nasty defensive line culture that we're gonna
be without their left tackle, which you never like to
hear protecting the blind side. So I took the Colts
(01:40:43):
in six and a half. So Saints, Dolphins, Colts the
other two. I just I never like going against Aaron Rodgers.
But the fact that the Super Contest line was was
the Redskins plus two and a half tells me the
Redskins may be the better team because if you take
away Aaron Rodgers, that's not a good Eagles scene. It's
(01:41:05):
just not that they can't run the football. I mean
Kirk Cousins shredded them last week and over four yards
and frankly, I mean Nick, if you look closely, Packers
should have lost her first two games. I mean they
were getting obliterated by the Bears, and Rogers has this
freakish comeback and you could say, well, Jason, they should
(01:41:27):
have beat the Vikings, shouldn't have gone to overtime. That
bad call on Clay Matthews. Well they're protecting quarterbacks. But yeah,
I hear that argument. Backers just haven't impressively. Now they
got to go on the road. Uh, first road test
of the year. We'll see, We'll see how Aaron Rodgers
does away from home with that suspect running game and
the defense is just I think Alex Smith has as
(01:41:49):
a nice game here for the Redskins and the final
pick and this was I just I hate trusting Joe Flacca,
but this is a a Ravens by five and a half.
This is a place simply against Vance Joseph and the
and the Broncos. The Broncos are two and oh, they
(01:42:09):
won two games at home against two winless teams by
a total of four points. That's nothing that impressive that
I've seen so far from the Denver Broncos. I like
the Broncos this year, but Vance Joseph is what kills me.
Is play calling is just terrific, and this is an
awful stat. Vance Joseph four twelve and two against the
(01:42:30):
spread as a head coach with the Broncos four twelve
and two, they're one and nine on the road in
their last ten road games against the spread, one a nine.
And then there's a play where I forget the exact stat,
but apparently John Harbaugh uh coming off a loss with
(01:42:51):
extra time to prepare is just like insanely good because
they remember they played Thursday night and they did not
look very good. They've got some injuries, which conserves me.
But ultimately I was like, I'd rather take the Ravens
over the Patriots because seven is a lot, even though
Belichick and the Patriots off of loss are incredible. So
those are my five. I don't love them. I wouldn't
(01:43:13):
be shocked if this was a two and three. Folks,
SATs plus three, Dolphins minus three Colts plus six and
a half, Redskins plus two and a half, Ravens minus
five and a half. So those are my picks. Now.
T A again unable to join us. But I know
you guys love his stuff and he's sharp. His picks
(01:43:36):
are as follows. Ravens he's with me, Redskins, he's with me.
He took the Seahawks. I couldn't. The Earl Thomas didn't
show up at practice yesterday. Pete Carroll didn't want to
talk about it. Something's going on there that offensive line.
If you listen to my podcast that I plugged earlier,
coming up Winners, the guy who joins me had some
(01:43:56):
incredible stats on this is one of the worst offensive
lines when it comes to sack grate in the last
twenty years. It's that bad. And the Cowboys are second
in the league in sacks. So I couldn't pick the Seahawks.
T A did. T A also took the Chargers plus seven.
Now here's why I backed off the Chargers. Nick and Gavin,
who were so excited, Okay, who is the Rams? Who
(01:44:20):
is the Rams defensive coordinator? Tell me you know yeah,
former Chargers defensive coordinator. Also former Broncos defensive. He knows
the Chargers, well, who are the Rams two big cornerbacks
that they just signed, Marcus Peters a key to leave,
who have a good records against Rivers. Yes, but not
(01:44:43):
against Keenan Allen was be honest, no go back. Keenan
Allen torched the Peters in that first game open and
then he got hurt. Remember I had money on the
on the on the Chargers in that game, and you
know that Keenan Allen injury such a game changer. But
Wade Phillips, Marcus Peterson, Tilip have historically done really well
(01:45:05):
against Rivers. I couldn't take the points, but I probably
should have been Ta's last pick. So we got Raven
skin Seahawks charges. He took the Cardinals. I can't go there.
I cannot back to Sam Bradford. Now, listen, last week
I took the Browns. Oh no, who do I take?
Last week? And you got I forgot who it was,
(01:45:26):
but or two weeks ago it was the Bucks and
the opener against the Saints, and you guys are like,
how can you do that? How can you do that?
It worked? So he took the Cardinals. Those are your
super contest picks coming up next year on the Big
League Fox Sports Trading. We're gonna try to get Jay
Glazer on the horn. I think he's on the ball
or set filming something with the Rock Talk NFL Insider.
(01:45:47):
That's next, But first let's go to Isaac Loewen Crown
for the latest in supporter Jason. It was many happy
returns for number two Georgia at Missouri. Lock will throw down.
The ball is taught around the third the four yard line.
Now it's loose and picked up by Georgia. George's running
the other way with a football. Tyson Campbell's gonna go
all the way into the end zone for an A
(01:46:07):
pair of touchdown officials are indicating a score. Tyson Campbell
has scored the first points of this ball game for
the Dogs, six to nothing. Extra point was good on
the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network. So they lead at Missouri
seven nothing with five ten left to play in the
first quarter. Ian Books starting at quarterback over Brandon Wimbush
for a rank Notre Dame at wake Forest, and wake
(01:46:29):
Forest has just taken a three nothing lead over the
Irish at the five eighteen mark of the first quarter.
Book so far as completed three out of six passes
for nineteen yards. Nineteen rank Michigan running wild at Nebraska.
They give it the Mason. He pounced his way right
up over center. Touchdown from Michigan. Then Mason finishes the job.
(01:46:51):
Six nothing Wolverines over the Huskers, and they just added
another touchdown run from even farther away. And now number
two currently gives the ball to Heaven who's got it
around the left fist. He might go the distance. He's
at the ten to five. He's in to run. Hyars.
(01:47:14):
Jim brand Stad of the Call on I amg is
the Wolverines now at fourteen to nothing over Nebraska, still
seven twenty two left to play in the first quarter.
Number twenty three Boston College is just pulled even with
Purdue seven seven and that one four minutes and thirty
two seconds remaining in the first quarters. So four ranked
(01:47:34):
teams in action early on this Saturday. Jason back to you,
thank you, Isaac back here on the Big lead Fox
Sports Radio. So Missouri and Georgia. Yeah, Missouri's driven on
them twice, but they got no points to show for it.
You can't do that against a team like Georgia. You
(01:47:56):
gotta get it in the end zone. Michigan. They're looking
to put a hurt on Scott Frost and Nebraska. And
just a quick word on Michigan. Everybody sold him when
they lost that opener to Notre Dame. In reality, they
kind of played Notre Dame to a standstill. Now when
(01:48:16):
you fall behind early on the road and you know
the turnovers and the penalties, But from a statistical point
of view, Michigan was not like awful. Now. I know
they struggled to get the ball in the end zone
early and that helped with the early deficit. But keep
an eye on Michigan. They're not the hot garbage everybody
(01:48:37):
thinks they are. Now hardball is doing less talking. So
it's a kind of situation where it's like, oh, Jim
Harba must be getting no, no, no, Jim is not
scared of anything. He's got his quarterback. He's gonna do
the whole walk softly, carry a big stick thing. I
think Michigan is gonna re emerge. And remember the Big
(01:48:59):
ten is down a bit right now, the Big tenant.
You know, last week they have one of the worst
weeks in a couple of years. In the Big everybody lost.
I mean, they had seven losses last week and the
Big Ten outside of the conference, that's not a good look.
A se see, of course, has two utterly dominant teams
(01:49:20):
in Georgia and Alabama. But we'll see it. You know,
it's a it's a tough start for college football, and
I think a lot of that has to do with, like,
you know, the NFL. The big thing is parody teams
can go worst to first. You know, the Bucks a doormat,
We're supposed to start oh and three with that schedule
and no Jamis and their two and oh and they
(01:49:42):
might be favorite over the Steelers Monday night. The uh,
the Chiefs two and oh pete two good teams. You
don't see that in college football. You know, you don't
have You're not gonna get like you CF is not
gonna nobody's gonna play them, first of all, but you
don't really yet that awesome team to just emerge out
(01:50:03):
of nowhere and become a force. College football is heavily
skewed towards the towards the superstar marquee teams. And you know,
I guess I guess it works. But in the NFL,
I think that's why it is still king in in
in the country. It's just simply people love football because
(01:50:25):
there is parody and everybody can sell hope to their
fan bases, right, I mean, imagine you were a Jaguars fan,
like a decade of hot garbage, boom, a f C
Championship game, the Rams there. I mean, the Rams were
so bad for so long and then all of a
(01:50:45):
sudden boom out of nowhere. Because the Rams are Super
Bowl favorites now. Honestly, right now, the Rams are these
Super Bowl favorites. A year ago, people didn't know what
to make of them. Golf McVeigh, girly boom. Here are
the Rams. They've arrived. They matter even my Jets, I mean,
(01:51:07):
they're not there yet, but with Sam Donald, they've got hope.
I mean for the first time as a Jets fan
in forever. Like the Mark Sanchez days, they were exciting,
but there wasn't like Wolf or Set a quarterback for
fifteen years. Not everybody can be as lucky as the
(01:51:28):
Green Bay Packers to go from Far to Rogers. You
know what that means. When you can go from Far
to Rogers twenty straight years. The Packers are matter have
a quarterback could win the Super Bowl. Twenty the Indianapolis Colts,
they go from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck and for
twenty years, boom, they're in the mix. Now, yeah, you'll
(01:51:52):
have a down year where Peyton has a neck injury,
or Andrew Luck is out, or Farf has a really
bad year, but base sickly for two decades you're looking
at you're in the mix. And my Jets just haven't
had that. No Super Bowl visits since I've been on
this planet. A couple actually three a f C title
(01:52:14):
game trips, one with Vinnie Testaverdi too with Mark Sanchez.
Really that that's it. Now before we go to break here,
I want to quickly remind you of an amazing stat
and I wrote about this on The Big Lead. I
don't know that anybody's talked about it in the last
fifteen years. One of these three quarterbacks was in the
(01:52:40):
a f C Championship game fifteen years straight. Peyton Big Ben,
Tom Brady fifteen years straight. One of those three guys
was in the a f C Championship game. That's staggering.
If I asked you, Gavin and Nick, will that street
come to an end? This year. We know Payton's retired,
(01:53:03):
Big Ben oh one and one, no Levi on Antonio
Brown whatever, and the Patriots. Do you think that streak
will continue or do you think it ends so that
means the Steelers are Patriots would have to get eliminated
before the a s C Championship Game. Your thoughts, Yeah,
I would say, like the Wells report, it is more
(01:53:24):
likely than not that they will not make the a
f C Championship Game. Okay, but but but then the
question becomes, Okay, who's in the a f C Championship Game?
As it kills me to say this, but and I
know they're not even in the j MAC you know,
twelve packed. But the Chiefs right now, I gotta say, wow,
I know, and they might have the two best wins
(01:53:48):
of the season so far on the road over the
Chargers and Steelers. That's god, those are two good wins.
And then with the Jaguars defense, it's hard Chiefs. That
would be something like mortals verse Pat Mahow. That would
be something you haven't even to take your Charger's badge
fan just away, because that's yeah, no, it's not ridiculous,
by the way, No, it's not ridiculous that. You know,
(01:54:09):
I was afraid because Jason come on the a f
C West was the Charger's division up until but the
question mark was what's my homes? And my biggest fear
was that he was gonna be pretty damn good. Andy
Reid kicked Alex Smith to the curb because he knew
who this kid was gonna be good, and he is
and he's a lot better than I thought. So I
still think the Chargers are gonna be there, but I'm
not gonna be surprised with can City is too, because
(01:54:31):
my homes can play, right. So is the streak going
to continue? NT? Yes, Uh damn it. I was trying
to make an argument for no. And I think the Jags,
you know, if they if they get home field in
the playoffs, they should make it. But the problem is
the other team, Like we know, if the Patriots win
the division, they get a home game, they're probably going
(01:54:53):
to get a buy They're probably gonna be the you know, stinks.
It's like I'm trying to make an argument again. Stand
I just the Jags I think are one. But I
mean again, the Patriots to not get there would have
to play on the road like can you envision a
scen area where they don't have home field advantage or
at least a home game, because every year they've been
(01:55:15):
to the Super Bowl, they've been a one or two seeds.
I mean, I think that's gonna happen again. We'll see
unless Ryan Tannehill just goes god mode. I mean, I
don't know Ryan Tannehill. I know, well, I mean that's
the only thing, right, Yeah, I don't think so. All right?
Coming up next year on the Big Lead Fox Sports Radio,
we will recap a little Baker Mayfield. I want to
(01:55:39):
mention Jimmy Butler in the Lakers one more time. And
I have a score for my kids soccer game that
I missed this morning. I know you're waiting for that.
All that's next. Back here on the Big League Fox
Sports Radio, Boy Nebraska and Scott Frost. It's getting ugly, folks,
twenty seven to zero in the first quarter. Holy cat, listen.
(01:56:04):
I like Scott Frost a lot. I did not think
it would be this slow of a build. I thought
they would be competitive this season. I mean, goodness, gracious,
Michigan's beating him down. Uh. Georgia Missouri tied at seven,
but when you when you see this Nebraska kid, Oh
my gosh, fielding a punt off a bounce, clumsily gets drilled,
(01:56:31):
the ball pops up, Michigan gets it in the air
and runs it back for the touchdown. And he's being
coached by a former national championship winner, right, Scott Frost. Yeah,
Oh my goodness, jeez, I feel bad for I like Frost,
think big picture, same deal for you guys listening to
FSU fans. We talked to Danny Cannell earlier. Patience U
(01:56:53):
c l a Chip Kelly fans patience. It's gonna be fine.
You're gonna take your lumps. That's like right. So it's
been a fun show. Quick word from the soccer field
where my son played in his third game. We got
totally jobbed last week. Um our best player has a
(01:57:16):
has a cast on his finger. He started the game
with the cast. They didn't care. Last week, he scores
an awesome goal and they said, no, that's dangerous, gotta
get him out of here. They kicked him out of
the game at halftime. A seven year old. His parents
are unbelievable and we ended up losing as the other
team had a really good player. We had shut him
down mostly, and then he scored two goals late. We
lost word today six to one. Now we emailed, is
(01:57:39):
this is this kind of losery? Just to make sure
we could have our guy play with the cast. We
emailed the opposing coach and said, hey, here's the situation.
We don't have enough guys. If he can't play, we
have to forfeit. And they were like, oh, it's fine,
let him play with the cast. Who cares. He scored
four goals today. Uh, yeah, he's got to use to
(01:58:01):
Bill Belichick approach. Just not list him on the injury report.
Just shock. Well, I mean, so he's really good. Anyways,
So we won six one. The word from my assistant coach,
because I know you guys care about your kids and
youth sports. Um, the other team's best player had to
leave at halftime, and we did sit out the guy
with the cast in the fourth quarter up six one.
(01:58:22):
My kid, no goal. But I will get the full
report from these good at defense. He's not a scorer.
We'll see. Uh so there's that. Uh let me quickly
touch on Jimmy Butler and the guy who hosts the
show next. Steve Hartman had a good point to me.
There is a battle for l A with the Rams
and Charger Sunday again. I'll be at the game. If
you see me, you know whatever, say nice things. I
(01:58:46):
think I'll be with some friends and family. I don't
really know how many people will be there that I know,
but I'll be at Rams Chargers. It's the battle for
l A. But on Monday, they may not be talking
about it because according to the host of the Next Show,
Steve Hartman, it's media day for the Lakers early this year,
(01:59:08):
Lebron in the Jersey meeting the media, Lonzo Kuzma, every
I mean, it's gonna be a big deal. The Lakers
are gonna lead all the news here and I'll tell
you this nationally Football mondays, I get it. Lebron is
going to be a story. He's just gonna be a
(01:59:31):
big story. And in l A he's gonna be massive again.
I gotta buddy you as season tickets. I'm not gonna
say I've been badgering him, but let's just say we've
been talking a lot about the Lakers this year. I'm
very excited to go to some games. And I will
say this on Jimmy Butler don't rule out Jimmy Butler
(01:59:51):
to the Lakers. I know the list is out there.
It's Clippers, it's Nets, it's Nicks. As I said in
the first hour, Jimmy Butler's in play, So is Kawhi Leonard,
so is Clay Thompson. But the Lakers were fined for
tampering twice last year in the last year over Janice
(02:00:13):
and Paul George. That's not going to happen again. The
Lakers will not be talking about free agents. And the
other aspect of this is Paul George said, I want
to be a Laker. Paul George talked up the Lakers.
It was well known, and he was a little embarrassed
that when the chips came down at the when the
clock was close to striking midnight, Lakers ain't call him.
They did want Paul George earlier then Kawhi Leonard was available.
(02:00:37):
The Lakers pivoted from Paul George to Kawhi Leonard. I'm
here to tell you, and nobody's saying this. It's it's
not the Lakers have not gone on record, but the
Lakers did not want Paul George when Kawhi Leonard was
out there they didn't. That's a fact. I'm sorry. Kawhi
Leonard is a better player. They tried to trade for
(02:00:58):
quite didn't happen. So the Lakers and nobody else is
gonna be saying Jimmy Butler is not gonna get him back.
He doesn't want to embarrass himself. He knows if Kevin
Duran hits the market, Lebron will want Kevin Durant. Kawai
knows that too. That's why you're seeing Kauai Clipper stuff.
This is the behind the scenes. I'm telling you what's
(02:01:19):
going on now. I've been pushing Jimmy Butler and Kyrie
possibly to the nets that will be in play now.
What's interesting. Kyrie Irving was asked, Hey, what about you
and Jimmy Butler teaming up and you're starting to see
fun stuff? Oh, I haven't talked to Kyrie at length
(02:01:42):
in or Kyrie said, I haven't talked to Jimmy Butler
at length in in over a year, and that was
kind of it. The players know that this Lakers getting
fine for temporary. They don't want teams to get in trouble.
They don't want it to look like collusion, which just
some people think a bad look. So you're gonna hear
(02:02:03):
the rumors, but the players are not going to talk
about it. What do you want Kyrie Ever going to say, yeah,
I've been texting Jimmy Butler, we'd love to play together.
What do you think that's gonna impact him with the Celtics.
Nobody's showing any of their cards. Folks, Hey, thanks for listening.
Great show today. Podcast will be up within an hour.
I talked about the other podcast I started, coming up Winners,
(02:02:23):
where I talk about NFL gambling, NBA gambling. We're gonna
talk Connor McGregor next week. Thank you Nick, thank you Gavin,
thank you Isaac, thank you, Iowa, Sam. Enjoy the games tomorrow.
Talk to you next week.
