that's been my team since I was a wee little one,
made a fairly significant move tonight and I don't know how.

in tonight for the Mike and Arnie Show with it
was Jason out tonight.

Is he good? Everything good? He was off? Ah, he

So Ian Roddy, our producer was on Sunday Nights, was leaving.
He goes how you feel it? And I don't know.
I don't know. It's a trade involving a third round
pick for a guy who's been a starting quarterback in
the NFL for you know, the better part of the
last three or four years and has done it at

a pretty decent level. But yet I'm underwhelmed. But yet
I think that's unfair because I also should be I
think excited based on what's been under center or in
the shotgun, or in the huddle, whatever term you want
to use to describe the quarterback position in twenty twenty five,

(01:35):
whoever your leader has been since the moment that they
moved on from Derek Carr, and maybe even to a
certain extent during the last season of Derek Carr, after
whatever Josh McDaniel's try to put him through. It it
hasn't been good. It hasn't been consistent. It hasn't been
able to compete in a division where you have arguably

(01:56):
one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time in Patrick Mahomes,
you have in Justin Herbert, one of the most transformative
type of talents. I guess you know, it's just you
kind of keep waiting for something to happen with the
Chargers and they keep laying eggs. But yet in the
same vein it, if you were to ask just about anyone,
they would take Justin Herbert as their starting quarterback in

the NFL right now, probably over the guy that they have,
and they got a pretty good coach right now with
the Los Angeles Chargers too in hardball. And then you
add a curious one of bo Nick's who you know,
did it did it at a level that it took
him a while, I think to be like Rookie of
the Year caliber type performer, right But I think he

(02:41):
got there. I think he got there. I mean there
were some early games co on Bronco fans. You can
even admit to it. You mean, the biggest Homer in
the world, and you can say, man, he laid some
eggs early on as the starting quarterback, but he's gonna
be good. And with Sean Payton, you know, Sean Payton
might have as Drew Brees. So you can't compete in

that division with just some schlepp ad quarterback. I guess
my concern is, you know, where is Geno Smith in
like Seattle two point zero? Here under Pete Carroll in
Las Vegas. Now, as you can tell, I got takes.
I'm still trying to like calculate them and kind of

workshop them and really understand it because there's still a
lot of shock too. I mean, I'm not gonna lie.
I thought I thought the Raiders quarterback decision would be
one that would involve a long looking Aaron Rodgers. I thought,
I thought that there and I still think that there
is going to be.

A draft conversation here. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
There was one of the reports, I think I think
it might've been Jordan Schultz that said the Raiders were
preparing to make Geno Smith their quarterback of the future.
And that's where I thought, Okay, I don't like that.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I don't like that part of it, you know, because
I think a quarterback can still be at play with
the number six pick in the draft. Because if you're
saying Geno Smith, you're preparing for him to be your
quarterback of the future and sign him to a long
term deal. I mean, this isn't This isn't some spring chicken, y'all.
This is a dude that's been in the league since
twenty thirteen. And it's also one of the wildest career

arcs ever with Gino Smith, who was a rookie out
of the gates starter with the Jets his first two
seasons and then didn't become a starter in the league
until eight years later. Again, Gino went through stints where
he and there were injuries involved. Right started. After starting

(04:52):
twenty nine games in his first two years with the Jets,
he started one in the next two seasons with the
New York Jets twenty nine in his first two years.
He didn't start double digits in a season again in
this second his first two years of twenty thirteen to
twenty fourteen, he didn't start double digits in a season

again until twenty twenty two. I mean, that's that's like
the rich Gannon man. Go look at rich Gannon's career.
It's pretty wild to where you know, he starts off
and is what he is Minnesota and bounced around a bit,
ended up in Kansas City, and then boom.

Ten years later, he's an MVP with the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
And for some reason, you know, the Raiders as a
franchise have been in love with the rehab quarterback, right.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
I mean, you even you're thinking about Jim Plunkett.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Jim Plunkett won two Super Bowls as the Raiders starting quarterback,
and you know he was he was already punted on
by the Niners and they decided to go to a
different direction, which, by the way, worked out ok for
them and worked out for the Raiders. I guess you know,
Stable was a guy that they drafted, but still not
like your your prototypical quarterback, kind of had a little

bit of a different edge to him. Rich Cannon's a
great example, guy that you know, didn't really have all
the hype early in his career and then all of
a sudden you get him and it's boom. I know
Al Davis would this was after outpass whenever. Jason Campbell
was the quarterback of the Raiders, But that was kind
of the prototypical dude, right. That was someone that you

looked at and thought, oh, there's there's a Raider type quarterback, right,
big arm. But dude that a couple teams have forgotten
about or moved on from. Well, here's Gino Smith. And
I think, you know, outside of the Carson Palmer trade,
is the first time that they went and got an
existing starter as sitting starter in the league. And it's

a dude that has that arc of being forgotten about.
I hey, listen, hey, raise your hand if you forgot that.
Gino Smith spent a year with the Los Angeles Chargers.
I mean, it's insane. There are six seasons in this
league where Gino Smith was a non player, I mean,
an absolutely non player, and then all of a sudden

in twenty twenty two, that's the direction the Seahawks go,
and he's been their guy every single season since. And
he's twenty seven and twenty five now. Again, I know,
Q wins is not really a quarterback stat And it's
also kind of weird because you know, it was like
all Pete Carroll's gonna go get his guy, Pete Carroll's
gonna go get his duye ge. Gino Smith was only

a starting quarterback for Pete Carroll for two years. I mean,
Russell Wilson, if you were gonna say, go get his guy,
was the starting quarterback significantly longer with the Seattle Seahawks
than Gino Smith was. So I mean, I don't know, man,
this is one of those moments where you feel like
you either you either landed the big fish or you

just absolutely completely underwhelmed yourself.

I don't know.

So as as this night rolls on tonight at eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
ninety six six three sixth nine, I'd love to get
your reaction, Seahawks fans, where do you stand? I would
imagine if you're a Seattle fan, just you know, based
on that three year record as your regular starter, you're
only talking about two games over five hundred, and I
don't I don't think they've won a playoff game. I

think I think he went to one playoff game with
Gino Smith as your starting quarterback. If you're a Seahawks fan,
I'm sure that there is some frustration over, you know,
losing your starting quarterback, but I also think based on
that sample size, there's got to be some excitement about
what's next. Is that making a move to get up
in the draft. Is that getting into Sam Darnold sweepstakes?

Is that Aaron Rodgers potentially in Seattle. I don't know,
But if I'm a Seahawks fan, I think I'm I'm
kind of excited about what that that future might be.
And then there is the kind of the third I
don't know if the term would be domino or the
third card in this and that is what this means
to the rest of the quarterback carousel. The Raiders are

now out as a potential landing spot and Geno Smith
is out as a potential I starting quarterback for another team,
So I don't really know how it's going to affect
the overall carousel, except to say one team that was
in the mix for a quarterback is out and one
guy that really, I mean, honestly, had.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
We been talking about Geno Smith being moved.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
No, But the Seattle Seahawks were always a team, you know, Whenever,
whenever Bri and I would put together that list of
teams that might need a quarterback, Seattle was always one
of those that you kind of put down there and
you're like, eh, maybe maybe we'll see. But what whatever
they could get for him, I think they would be

happy with it, especially if you're getting a third round pick. Now,
fear not, Raiders fans, this is not your own third
round pick. This was the third round pick that you
got into DeVante Adams trade. So I think it's okay
to say that basically, you just, you know, basically traded
whatever you got for DeVante Adams from the Jets for

Gino Smith. If you want to look at it that way,
that's fine.

But I'm.

I think I'm kind of stuck in a land of confusion.
I think I don't really know what it means.

Long term for the Raiders.

I don't think I would be excited if you're telling
me that they signed them to a five year contract, like, well,
hold on here, we don't even know forty year old's
running around here being the starting quarterback.

Really know if this is one of those moves that
when you look at it from afar, you say, damn man,
the Raiders hit a home run.

They went out and they got it done. I don't know.

I would like to believe that's what happened here today,

How should I feel about this right now? I was surprised.

of my buddies kind of held up his phone. He
was in another room and he showed it to me,
and I thought it was fake, like there's no way
you're gonna give a third round pick for Geno Smith.

But then I also remember, oh, we are talking about
a guy that's a starting quarterback in the NFL right now,
there's only thirty two of them, so he's in a
final year of his contract. I'm sure the Raiders are.
Like I said, I'm in a mixed bag of the
emotions right now.

First of all, good evening. Secondly, how should I feel
about this right now?

I think you're exactly where you're supposed to be. I
think you're in the You're in the phases.

Right, Okay, I'm going through the phase.

This is like I think this is like the level
of shock, the first phase, right right. I'm not sure
acceptance is ever really gonna hit until like maybe after
the draft, maybe after you kind of figure out, like
because what if they could.

Still get Shador I would mind that.

Okay, So then it's like, okay, they drafted someone like
they drafted, you know, a rookie, then that's who Gino
Smith's gonna kind of like mentor and be behind. But
then it's like, okay, but how long is this deal
going to be? It can't be more than like a
three year deal. That's ridiculous. So I think so now
I think that next phase is like you're just you're
in a like a little limbo, like, let's see.

I will say, there's some numbers that I have seen
that have allowed me to be a little bit more
excited about this. You know, I think the natural reaction
from most fans are kind of my initial reactions, which is,
what are we doing? Chinos submitted, Really, this is the

this is the move John Spytech, this is the move
Tom Brady, Pete Carroll, you guys, whind and Dine and Cordon,
Matt Stafford. Only for him to get more money from
the Rams and now the move is Geno Smith. Like,
there's that part of me. But I also all start
you know, I see the reaction from his teammates, right

the Seahawk players, Sarika Wollen and others, and they're not happy.
So I think that that matters to me. Like, okay,
that matters to me. The Raiders odds to win the
Super Bowl did not change at all, But to even
have odds on the Raiders to win the Super Bowl,
it is kind of dumb to begin with.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
That's just me.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
I was trying to find the numbers about him indoors. Yeah,
here you go, Mike Sando numbers NERD Geno Smith in
his fifty Seahawks starts indoors, fourteen starts all on the road,
thirty touchdowns, five interceptions, a one to ten rating. Now again,

(14:01):
half of these games will be indoors next year because
the Raiders play and not necessarily they playing a dome essentially,
but it's not a dome. It's an indoors stadium outdoors.
Forty three touchdowns, thirty one picks, and an eighty nine
point seven rating.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
That's thirty six. Now you're not.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Playing indoors in Kansas City, you're not playing indoors in Denver,
but you are in Vegas in the Charger. So that's two.
Let's say it's eight eight, what like ten of your games.

So that gives me a little bit of hope.

But I don't even Briann, I can't even use those
numbers now to try to make me feel good about things.
I don't know. I don't know what's the stage after.
Let's see, so you said they're shocked.

I think they're shocked, and then they'll be like, I
think you're going to be in like a limbo for
a while until after the draft. Then it's going to
be like a reality check of like, oh my god,
and then it's acceptance because I just think reality check
like you're still kind of grasping and kind of like
simmering and understanding and like conceptualizing and then acceptance. But

hopefully you'll even get to acceptance because yeah, I don't know,
it's I just think it's a mediocre move.

Unless, oh my gosh, that's the term right here.

It's very mediocre, Like it's very I even think like
and that's where it's crazy to think in a world
of like Sam Darnold even would be just a little
bit more exciting and like a little you feel a
little bit more like hey, okay, but there's no really optimism.
You're just kind of like, Okay, well, I guess we'll
just kind of see where we're at alrighty.

I mean, okay, obviously, I know he isn't always the
best player, but from one point of view, you have
a qualified quarterback. I know he has his false but
you have a quarterback. Why are you so down? I mean,

you have someone that could run the play, do what
the coach wants, and get things going. He can run,
he can school, he could do all those things. Why
are you going through the stages of death and pain?

It's a great question, mark, It's it's something that I
ask myself quite a bit.

he's not, and I don't even know if he'd be

And you know, Max Crosby gets signed this week. They
give him the biggest deal that's ever been given to
a non quarterback, and he kind of starts talking about
Aaron Rodgers and kind of waxing nostalogically so I allow
my mind to drift in that direction. But you're right
that you get a guy that's you know, Bobby Carpenter.
I don't know if you guys know Bobby's. Bobby's a good,

great radio guy, was an awesome NFL player, great college
football player, play linebacker for Ohio State and then for
the Cowboys for years, and whenever I would complain about
Derek Carr, his thing to me was always like, man,
you can do a lot worse than Derek Carr. And
I think I should take that philosophy with Geno Smith
because I've seen a lot worse than Geno Smith over
the last two years for the Raiders.

Because it worked when it comes to I mean, we're
all crazy about quarterback.

And now because there was a good running back in
the Super Bowl, now everybody's crazy about having a good

away in my opinion for you and your team. You
have a quarterback. Okay, that's part of that is is done.
It can get better, but you have a quarterback. Somebody
can run things and hopefully that would help the mental

was very bad. And do I think Geno's like a
top five seeing quarterback.

But my thing is with Gino is this is a
bridge move for the Raiders. I mean, I do not
see Geno being here past two or three years unless
they're developing a guy which you and Bree were talking
about last segment where maybe Chador falls that would be
the only way. Maybe he stays there for two or
three years. But the question is it's like, is Deang
gonna allow Shador to sit on the bench? And for

the Seahawks, like, this was something that I think it
had to be done. I mean, Gino like he had
great moments, a bunch of great moments as a Seahawks.
I'm not gonna come and say, oh, he was terrible
the last season. It kind of gave me like vibes
of Okay, we need to start somewhere else. Because when
you have a new coach, Chris Flank, you bring in
the new coach, it feels just kind of weird starting

with the same quarterback from the previous coach and Pete Carroll.
If anyone's going to get their best out Geno Smith,
it's Pete Carroll. So for you guys giving up a
third round pick, I mean I did, Like when I
saw that third round pick. I heard Steve Disager on
the odd couple Kelvin and Carry, you know, and he's
I said, third round, Like, I'm surprised, like they gave
up that much. But I mean You're right, it's a

starting quarterback and there's only thirty two of them, and
when you had Gardner, Minshew and An O'Connell, like, of
course you're taking Gino Smith. Like I'd say Gino Smith
is ten foughts ahead of those guys. I mean probably
maybe like sixteen more than Gardner.

But it's a really good move for the.

Raiders, and it's a bridge move because the quarterback class
is very weak and Gino Smith you're gonna win you
some ballgames. That indoor stat that you shared, that's a
very insane stat. I like, I kind of knew about
a little bit, but it really put it into perspective.
And I mean, I think you guys have a better
offensive line than us, so that should help it a
little bit.

But you do have to be worried about.

Gino's decision making if he's under pressure, because that's not
his best attribute for sure.

we need to sign Sam Darnold. But my one thing
with this is, no matter who we have, we could
have Tom Brady at like thirty two years old, and
with that offensive line, it's not really gonna you know,

it's not going to be that crazy. Our biggest priority
this off season, no offensive line number one, and I'm
putting that ahead of receivers. Jake Bobo he can he
can fill that void. Shout out Bobo, by the way,
you know Fox Sports Radio legend. But uh, Brie, I
wanted to ask because I'm you know, he probably brought
