watching college baseball all day. I'm watching college softball tonight.

up tonight, but it was just it was weird to
do this show since the I guess you could say
birth of this very radio program. It was weird to
do it without having an NBA game to break down,
without having something where we come in here and say, oh.

I'm a lifelong diehard Lakers fans, always have been, always
will be. But this new version, this is like two
point zero of the Thunder I've fallen in love with.
I didn't care too much for the way when the
franchise came here, When the franchise moved to Oklahoma City
over a decade ago, there was a lot of arrogance
I think within the organization, and I think they over

protected Durant and Harden and Westbrook, and they didn't do
much in the meeting. Now they were involved in the community,
but just they didn't do much. This new version has
kind of been forged through adversity and going a little
bit of a different direction. Right not you're punting on
big names. You're saying audios to Paul George, which might

have been the secret sauce as to why the Thunder
are where they are right now. You decided that after
trying trying to put Russell Westbrook in this kind of situation,
right to try to put him in a place where
the thunder are now, it just wasn't gonna work, and
you plunt it. And there's been some It's crazy because

people look at Jalen Williams, Jada, the one that plays
a lot, they look maybe a little bit of Casey
Wallas and chet Holmgren and maybe in your mind you say, man,
the thunder of just hit home runs. In the draft,
there's been a lot of missus, been a lot of missus.
Now they've enabled themselves to have a lot of missus
because they have a lot of picks. They've made a

lot of trades, so I you don't have to sit
here and lament a swing and a miss in the
lottery on someone like Polkashevski or you know, some late
round misses as well, because you've had so many picks
that you're willing to take more chances. With all that said,
I love what this team has been after only like

a two and a half year tank. It's pretty incredible.
And now here they are on the cusp of an
NBA championship. There I said it. Neither one of these
teams in the East have anything for. I try to
warn you, guys, and I've tried to prepare you because
I watched this team a lot. I watch this team
a lot. I am I maybe lose some objectivity. I

take it a little bit too personally. I think some
of our fans are incredibly embarrassing. But I really, really,
really enjoy this team. I think they're a blast. So
here's my problem, and here's where I need your help.
The pushback about TV ratings and market size is about
I just can't win.

Whenever Arnie wants to yell about oh what they call
the Sooners, I can't because it's just is it disrespectful?

Sure, yeah it is.

But we're in an industry now where like being disrespectful,
and I guess in a lot of ways, being clueless
is what gets you paid.

So I don't really have an answer.

Whenever people want to complain about no one watching this,

Get it, Like I'm sitting there, like, have you watched them?

They're they're they're fun, they're good, they're young, they're they're
everything you have seen teams try to do before and
fail miserably. Who has truly tanked and found themselves playing
for a championship. Right, what what team do you look

at that has actively tanked? And I guess maybe we
need a true NBA nerd here because I'm not going
to try to pretend to be some NBA historian, But
you know, who are the famous tankers?

Right? The process in Philadelphia? What did that get them?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Maybe one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA
this season and during this run. The most memorable moment
from the seventy six er process was what the Kawhi
Leonard shot that knocked him out of the playoffs?

We'll get New Orleans.

Oh, everybody was losing their mind to praise David Griffin. Oh,
look at David grit They suck. They're not any good.
They're battling Zion.

I guess we even have a contract conversation to have
about Zion. Williamson got throw me a team, Throw me
a team, And I mean the Bucks never tanked. They
got a little bit of a break with the development
of Middlebrook and kind of how that trio came together.
You know, just even when the Lakers, I guess you

could argue a little bit about the Lakers, right, but
they use their tank differently because they went out and
they they use those draft picks to get Anthony Davis.
So maybe there's a debate to be had that that work.
But it's my point is to do it where you
naturally you go through the draft and you develop a
guy that was considered by so many a throw And
I mean, go listen to the old takes exposed and

have guys and like, I mean, I'm not gonna sit
here and pretend. Like when the Thunder brought in Shay
Gil just Alexander and the Paul George trade, I was like,
here's a future MVP. I mean, anyone was, but I
I don't know how to fight back. It's like I
need to go to sports hot take school.

Remember mister Miyagi how he taught Daniel LaRusso how to
wax on and wax off. It's like I need to
learn that because I have fallen in this kind of
pit of being so non concerned, so uninterested in the
TV rating conversation. And it used to be number one,
number one of my It's like my ex girlfriend, I
see you people fighting over at TV ratings. I'm like,
I remember what I cared about that, I remember her.

I remember Alison Webb. You know, She's like, that's what
it is. It's something that used to matter to me
so much, and now I realize, well, you're just missing
out if you want to throw haymakers at this. So
I come to you a little bit of a broken
man tonight on The Plank Show on Fox Sports Radio,

It's like my girlfriend went through my phone and she

time about the Golden State Warriors.

Golden State was first getting hot, even though that they
were in California, The Golden State Warriors just were not
a draw like, Oh my gosh, I mean I remember,

felt that same way. And then what did Golden State become?
As soon as they want a title an absolute ratings juggernaut. Now,
I'm not here to tell you that suddenly in three
hundred and sixty five days from now, when.

I mean, I hope we're not having to get up
at this time.

I hope whenever I'm in bed, whenever Brion Mark are
in bed and we're making all the money we need
to make. I'm not here to tell you that all
of a sudden people are gonna be saying, man, what
a what a ratings juggernaut.

I just don't know if that's ever gonna be the case.

But it's just something that you constantly, I constantly hear,
constantly have thrown an hour collective face with OKAC, and
I don't know what else to say except you're really
missing out.

If it's truly because it's a smaller market and it's
just names you don't know yet, then my gosh, man,
what do you. This is my fight with Arnie every
single Sunday night. Do you need it to be a
major market for you to truly enjoy anything in sports?
I mean, I'm watching right now on Sports Center. There
showed old highlights of the Knicks Pacers rivalries. I don't

ever remember during that era people saying, oh gosh, don't
want the Pacers. H No one's gonna watch that. It's
just I this seems like a fairly relatively new thing
to me. So I come to you a broke I'm
once again asking for your help and maybe a challenge
as part of this too. If you are truly in

that boat where you're finding something wrong with his style
of play, I don't get it. Because they play defense,
they get out and they run. They're high flyers. It's fun,
and they beat the snot out of everyone. There's no excuses.
There's no excuses in the West. I can excuse away
both Indiana and New York being here because of injuries.

You know, the Lakers laid an egg against Minnesota, and
the team that beat the Lakers in five got smoked

grew up obviously, like I'm a girl, so I had
a lot of girl friends that like didn't watch sports,
but so I could. I would come to school after
like the Sons were in the Western Conference finals and
I couldn't really talk to them about it.

I couldn't be excited about it. I couldn't.

So I mean I guess I've kind of always been
in my own little world of like I don't care
what you watch, but this is what I'm into. Yeah,
and that's just what it has to like, that's just

if anybody ever talks about ratings, I'm kind of like, Okay,
but do your the TV ratings affect your pocket?

Are you do you do you get money off of that?

Or it's just a talking point I think to me
to be to just bash small markets.

Yeah, I guess I just it's weird because they're so good.
They're so good, they're so fun and I I mean,
when you say no one cares, no one's watching it,
my instant response is, again, that's that's you problem.

It's like me whenever I'd be so excited about the
Raiders and I was always around, I guess it would
be Cardinal fans and Cowboy fans.

That's I guess maybe one of my points to here tonight.
If you want to say Planke, you sound needy. I

I would say. You just better get used to it.

I think more than anything, what I'm saying is they
ain't going anywhere, and they're not and oh my gosh,

a lot of people that probably need coach before their name.

where people feel like they're more that's the best way
to put it, of an expert in trying to be

and especially around like the bigger teams like the Lakers
and the Celtics, and people are always going to Or

just basketball, because I think everything just kind of starts
with like Lebron and Lebron fanboys.

I will say on the on the counter to this,
the other side of it, man, the Eastern Conference Finals
is drawn some big numbers. The Eastern Conference Finals is
drawing some big numbers.

Somebody that tells you I don't care much about the
ratings conversation, but it's really hard to ignore when you
see that the Eastern Conference Finals hit a seven year
high in TV ratings. Thursday's Pacers Knicks game average six
point seven million viewers across TNT and True TV. It

was the most watched Game five of the Eastern Conference
Finals since twenty eighteen, and regardless of conference, it was
the most watched Game five at this point of the
postseason since the Mavericks Warriors three years ago, and compared
to last year's Loan Conference Game five, it was up

(15:57):
seven percent so it's kind of and for context, only
Game three on Sunday, the Lakers Timberwolves, Game four in
the first round, and the Lakers Warriors game on Christmas
Day averaged a larger audience. The Pacers Knicks series accounts

for four of the NBA season's top seven audiences. So
maybe maybe the NBA lucks into something.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Here where one of and I don't I mean, let's
face it, probably the Knicks, right that are doing this.
I don't think it's the Pacers.

But maybe they luck into the Knicks coming back and
getting in the finals, and then when they get smoked
by the thunder then people are a little bit more
subjected to OKC and they're like, oh, okay, wait a minute,
that's pretty awesome.

I had no idea. I also think the NBA does
not do a good job of taking that broad view.
And I I'm not somebody who is a very smart
my end, but Brie, I think they they still kind
of focus on the promotion of their older superstars, right,

they still kind of focus on Lebron and Steph Curry,
and you know, there's a little bit a little bit
of Anthony Edwards because of the Dunks. But there's just
not a lot whenever it comes to who they're telling
you and who they're putting. I mean, Thunder weren't even
on the Christmas Day schedule this year for goodness sake.
I mean, okay, see, didn't even play on Christmas and

then in the NBA Finals. By the way, you can
just ask any thunderfan about that. They're still very, very
very bitter about that.
