Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good morning, good, good, good morning. It's here, happy happy
college football. First Saturday of this season, a monster Texas,
Ohio State Club, Nick and New Smart. You got Clemson
LSU monster games today. It's an incredible week of college football.
(00:28):
Upon this happy Labor Day weekend to all across the
country with Bucky Brooks. I'm Anthony gar I got lots
to talk about. I still can't believe the Michael Parson's trade.
The NFL starts this week, football is back.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Good morning, Bucky.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
What's going on?
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Man?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
What's happening to Anthony?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Oh Man? I can't wait, brother, I can't wait. We
got full day in football today, we got Notre Dame
Miami tomorrow and uh and.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
The season starts. This season kicks off.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I'm in Philadelphia, right, So this season kicks off Thursday night,
Eagles and Cowboys and no, Micah, Bucky, I still can't
believe that Jerry flubbed this thing seven ways from Sunday. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
No, It's interesting how this all played out.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
You know, Michael Parsons being an All.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Pro player, being someone who is a dominant player, I mean,
fifty two sacks through four seasons of his NFL career,
and the fact that Jerry Jones didn't get this deal
done well before he reached his fifth year is look, man,
it's crucial. It's an indictment on him and the lack
of organization or detail when it comes to being a
(01:45):
general manager. This is significant because now you send an
All Pro defender, someone who the Packers desperately need, to
a team that was one of your biggest competitors for
being a title contender in the NFC.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Doesn't make any sense at all. We'll see how his
plays out. Now.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
It starts with what you just said. There was no
plan to get Micah signed. You don't wait till the
eleventh hour. Teams know who you're gonna invest in, Like
I come from the land of the Eagles. Howie Roseman
knows right now who he's gonna invest in his big
players on defense. He knows that he's gonna sign Jalen
(02:23):
Carter to a big deal. He knows he's gonna sign
Quinnon Mitchell at some point to a big deal, and
Cooper Dejen to a big deal. Like you gotta look
and you gotta prepare for it. You just can't allow
Micah to pop up and go, oh yeah, I gotta
figure out how to pay him, and then the thing
lingers and lingers. You try to backdoor his agent, and
(02:45):
then it lingers some more, and then all of a
sudden there's hard feelings and you trade him at the
worst possible time. Bucky, there's no worse time to trade
Micah Parsons than right now due the draft, or wait,
try to press to the deadline. Yeah, it's.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
It doesn't really make sense why they wait us along
to consummate the deal. Maybe the Dallas Cowboys were fully
intending to get this deal done, but they had to
know because when you don't enter in good faith negotiations
after a certain date, right, you go three months without negotiating,
and then when you finally tell him playing the fifth
(03:30):
year option or be gone like that is crazy that
it got to be that contentious. But I'll say a
couple of things can be true at the same time.
I can talk about Jerry Jones misplaying his hand, not
doing a great job as a general manager.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
But then I also can say.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
That maybe the Cowboys, from a cultural standpoint, maybe they
find themselves to be better off without Michael Parsons. For
all the great thing that Michael Parsons brings as a player.
He is a a big personality, and sometimes, in the
context of a team, big personalities don't mesh.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
As well with the teammates.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
What would be interesting if we had, we could be
flies on the wall in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
How do the players view Michael Parsons.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Did they view him not only as a great talent,
but as a integral part of the team, a key
piece that they needed from a leadership standpoint, or do
they see him as a great player who they'll miss
the production, but maybe they can find a better leader
to help him get over the hump.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Wow, I be honest with you, I'd be surprised if
it's the latter. I really would. No, Michael from Penny State,
I don't know. I always thought, I mean, how about
how he handled his own contract prior to this stuff
where they came to him when CD was op he said,
(05:00):
now listen, I'm good, I'm under contract PAYCD right, Like
I mean, he's always just because he did a podcast
didn't mean that he was a bad leader, a bad
in the locker room. I don't know, man, I buck,
I think it's speaking of big personalities.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
I mean Jerry said it.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
He said it numerous times this off season about you know,
the Cowboys and his love for drama. If I'm a
GM president, my owner of the franchise, I don't want drama. Drama,
no good.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
I mean, it definitely isn't ideal. I will say that,
like I would say it's definitely that ideal to be
embroider in a bunch of controversies and dramas in those
things where you have a player like we talked about
a top five player.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
In terms of Michael Parsons, we talk about a guy
who is a game changer, a guy who tilts the
field in the cowboys favor. It doesn't bode will that
you're not able to get that deal done. Now, I
will say this to Michael Parson's credit, if that is
true what you talk about with Ceedee Lamb and those things,
that is him and his agent understanding the landscape of
(06:19):
the marketplace when it comes to pass rushes and how
they were going to get paid and how they wanted
quarterback money, which is what Michael Parson's ultimately got a
forty seven million a year. Yeah, if you are willing
to bet on the player kind of continue to stay
on the plight that he was on. Yeah, you don't
do the deal early. You wait, and you get the
(06:40):
bag when the bag is as complete as it can be,
which is right now, because the bag is full forty
seven million dollars.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
The game is full. Yeah, you got it. It's a
full bag. And meanwhile, the Packers, I think now suddenly
are the biggest challenge to the Eagles in the NFC.
They needed a big time playmaker on that side of
the ball. You get one. You're already a top sevent
(07:08):
team in sacks. I mean, it's a great trade. And
here's the issue. The Cowboys wind up getting two first
round picks. You go, all right, well, two first round picks,
except they're both presumably gonna be later round picks. I
mean that's part of the issue.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
Yeah, I mean, so the hardest thing to do in
the scouting business is to turn picks or opportunities into players.
And we saw this years ago the Khalil Mack trade.
When Khalil Mack goes to the Raiders, to the Chief
to the Bears. The Bears and a bunch of picks
to the Raiders, and the Raiders are unable to parlay
those picks into the same caliber player or players that
(07:49):
Khalil Mack was for the Cowboys. The Green Bay Packers,
let's just say they normally finish what they finished, where
they win ten, eleven, twelve games annually. That's gonna put
the picks in the twenties in the lower round of
the twenties.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
So now we're talking about the bottom of the first round.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
In any given draft, are typically eighteen to twenty two
players that rate as pure first round talents.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
So it's unlikely that the Cowboys are going to get
a player that is a true first round player with
any of those picks. And you know, Will McClay is
my guy. I love him. He's one of the best
evaluators in the biz, and he's done a great job
when it comes to selecting players. But to think that
they're going to find another Michael Parsons is going to
(08:34):
be very, very difficult and challenging for the scouting staff.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Yeah, I'm with you, And not to mention it, buris
you on the field to that this year, like you
now have to go into it without your best defensive player.
You know, I don't know, Buck, I look at it,
and I look at that at NFC East, take the Giants,
(09:01):
Mike finish ahead of the Cowboys. I mean, look, that
was a viable look.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
That was a thought after you looked at the Giants
and what the Giants have done on defense, right, the
front is going, yeah, going into it. But now you
absolutely have that because when I look at the Cowboys,
it's all skewed in the offense. So this means that
now Dak Prescott in this offense needs to put up
thirty points to keep them in competitive shootouts. The problem
(09:30):
with the offense is they lack of marquee running back.
And without a marquee running back, you can have all
those weapons on the outside, but teams are gonna sit
in two deep coverage, they gonna.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Partner safety's in the parking lot. They're gonna dare you
to run it.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
And if you're unable to run successfully, you may move
the ball between the twenties, but you won't be able
to score points and generate the explosive plays that you
need to score points. And then defensively, you don't have
a credible threat on your front line to get after
the passer. Kenny Clark is a really good player, and
Kenny Clark is a great piece to have if you
(10:02):
have a dominant player or players.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Around him on the outside to get after it.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
But his production won't match MICA's production in terms of
the numbers or impact. So the Cowboys are a lesser
team today than they were yes.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
A couple of days ago when they made the trade.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yeah, big time, big time. All right, we gotta, we
gotta for slate of college football today, my man archers
in action. We'll get to see Texas Ohio State right
here on Fox, Big New Kickoff. It's a it's a monster,
got got away, got on the way this week, Nebraska
(10:42):
in uh in Arrowhead.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
They beat Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Last night we saw Georgia Tech a game, Georgia Tech
win at Colorado and Alburn. I think it's gonna be
pretty good. And they were at Beller and they look
pretty nasty. You excited for some college football?
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Absolutely? Man, I can't wait to see where this is.
But it's been a long time coming. The Clemson LSU game,
I have my eye own, just because Brian Kelly is
under so much pressure. And then if you haven't watched
the Netflix show any getting a Saturday Saturday, just.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
What he is either dealing with or what he's bringing
to the table.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Lsu is gonna be fascinating to watch as he kind
of sits on the hot seat this year. They need
to get going quickly.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Yeah, I mean, you know, here's the thing. Clet's is good,
right like Clemson is nasty. You bring back and this is.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Gonna be an interesting This is gonna be interesting season
for Dabbo because Dabo has been portal resistant. Right.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
It's like, I believe in my guys.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
I believe in recruiting, and I believe in keeping my
guys and building a program that you know, sustains talent,
rolls it over and they got a lot of guys back.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Defense is a veteran defense, of course.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Club Nick at Q, I mean this is this is
kind of a referendum on the portal and I'm fascinated
to watch it. You're right about Brian Kelly. I don't know.
I just think I'm anough Smier fan. I love the Smier.
I think the kick makes all the throws. He's really good.
(12:25):
But you're playing against a tough defense and the one
thing he's going to have to avoid is he's got
the arm to make those throws in tight windows and
that's not putting the ball in paralil.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
Yeah, I mean, look, that's gonna be the major issue, right, Like,
is he able to handle his business.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Without putting the ball in harm's way?
Speaker 5 (12:44):
And easy to say, harder to do when it comes
to dealing with you know, the kind of talent that
he's gonna face. On the other side, Clemson is back
because they are fully committed to their defense. Like their
defense is I mean as loaded as they come, first
round picks everywhere on the defensive front and the secondary,
(13:06):
those things. So can he handle himself, get the ball
out to the playmakers, not try to do too much
because one thing that people won't talk about that does
exist for players, the pressure of trying to impress, right
fer Nka Klipnick. All understand that NFL scouts, general managers,
all those guys were.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Having an eye on this game.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
And can they perform at a high level without trying
to do too much to impress the people in the
stands as opposed to just try and win the game
for their team.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Yeah, it's a great point, man, And you know, going
into it, you know they're gonna be the top quarterbacks
along with Drew Aller that everybody's gonna be looking at.
So it's it's and we get to start Labor Day
weekend with this kind of matchup. The greatest opening week
of college football ever is this weekend. We give you
(14:01):
some of the matchups you got Notre Dame in Miami
tomorrow night. I mean having this kind of these kinds
of tests. I mean, you get Texas Ohio State basically
to start the season. It's incredible. Man, that's just such
a great matchup.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
I mean it is. It's a great matchup.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
And that one big noon kickoff where you have a
chance to see the Buck guys. The Buck guys have
arguably the best player in college football. Then Jeremiah Smith
wide receiver, sophomore, who look, man, he is the gym,
the coral jewel of the twenty twenty seven class already.
And we haven't even really started talking about those prospects.
And then you continue to have Caleb Downs on the
(14:40):
defensive side. They're loaded on both fronts. Now they have
a newbie playing quarterback, but Julian saying jewets say, a
California kid, Southern couch kid. So it'll be look, it'll
be an interesting debut for him going against the Texans
team that is loaded for bear number one team in
(15:01):
the country.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Yeah, this just has to make is a very a
good one.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
What do you got playing today?
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Like you will? You just talk to your setup, man,
like are you are you well?
Speaker 5 (15:15):
I'm up in uh Cleveland, Ohio, Like I have a
Black College Hall of Fame game that I'm on the
call for tomorrow, Miles College versus Virginia Union. So I'm
juggling some production meetings while keeping my eye on the TV,
trying to make sure that I see everything.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
That I need to see to be on top of
the college game.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Yeah. That's great, that's great, And then you'll go back
home get ready for the start of the season.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Yeah, then it's all. It's wow, man, we got lots
to go over.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
We're gonna go over uh you know, division by division
where everybody looks this is it kind of look at
some wind totals who we like will dive deep today.
From day we'll get you ready for all the college games.
We'll have the brain later on to give us some picks,
lots to get to fellas with Bucky Brooks, I'm Anthony Gargatto.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
I'm just looking at that Packer defense.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
And fuck man, we got Rashaun Gary, Mike Andre and Cooper.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Savior McKinney. They're good.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
I mean, if Jordan Love stays healthy and I'm a
Jordan Love fan, I know people did the most overdrawn
conversation and is you know, is so and so an
elite quarterback? Right, It's ridiculous. But if Jordan Loves Healthy,
I love them. I think he's I think he's good.
(18:11):
And you've got the makings of a number one receiver.
And uh, when you look at what they can do
on the outside with Matthew Golden, like who I love
the Texas and then you know with Josh Jacobs, craft
is good. I mean they got their offensive line has
(18:34):
been short up. I mean that's a terrific football team.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
I mean yeah, I mean they are really talented. They've
done a really good job of stacking and stockpiling picks.
They've invested heavily on defense of late, we think about
all the first round picks they've committed to the defense
side of the ball. Who haven't even some of them
haven't even really got on the field yet. Their rotational players,
they're loaded offensively. Jordan Love has to come into his
(19:01):
own Like he's shown flashes of being elite, but he
had a great season followed by injury mars season last year.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
He needs to be the guy.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
That they thought he was gonna be when they paid
him fifty million plus. On the perimeter is how do
they determine the pecking order? Spend the first round pick
on Matthew Golden. Does he immediately become number one? Does
he kind of grow into the role? You think about
some of the other guys that they have, Jayden Reid
on the perimeter and that crew that they roll in.
(19:28):
How can they establish the pecking order to be the
dominant team that they should be. I mean, they have
everything that you could possibly want. So yeah, they go
from being a team that is like a dark horse
also mentioned as a title contender to you have to
think of them maybe as the NFC favorites besides the
Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Yeah, Golden gold is legit. He had a terrific preseason
and I think he slots in really well because now
all of a sudden, the Obs is really good as
possession receiver read you like you'll like craft a tight end.
So I think if if Golden is kind of what
(20:09):
we saw in the preseason and as dynamic as he
was in Texas, I think that that'll be huge. I
think got Jacob's you know, I don't know about co favorite,
but I'll say certainly number twoity 'sc.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
I mean, I think I think which a Philly glasses on.
I think good well bybe That's why you're saying there,
But no, I mean, like going toe to toe, the
difference would be, Uh, in the trenches. Can they get
down in the trenches like the Philadelfia Eagles get down.
One of the reasons why the Eagles are the favorite
is because Howie Roseman has done a really good job
(20:47):
of dominating in the trenches. Thinking about their offensive and
defensive lines, what they have, how they can attack you.
Most teams can't weather the storm.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
The Packers suddenly have a pass rusher to go with
a defense that is a sea ball getball defense. They
run and attack the ball under Jeff Haffley. They're close.
And remember Josh Jacobs was fifth and rushing last year,
like he had over thirteen hundred yards like he's also yeah,
he's also there, so they can control the game. It's
(21:18):
gonna be interesting to see how they put it together,
how quickly it comes together from a chemistry standpoint. Right now,
it looks great on paper, but putting it together where
the chemistry and connectivity is right, that's the biggest challenge
that you have.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
All right, Well, let's go through the rest of that
division while we're talking about it. All right, So the
Lions are the team that I'm fascinated by because you know,
you did lose frag Now that was a big deal, right,
so you got to replace him. You got the two
coordinators that you lose. But I mean, you're bringing back
(21:54):
the lines here everybody else, and they're such a dynamic
team and coach bad coach, you know, I mean, listen,
he's a winner. So where are they at your eyes?
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Well, I just worry about the transition point that they
have to make two new coordinators. Like, it's hard to
sustain success in the league, it's even harder when you
have new voices at the top. John Morton Kevin Shepherd
had been there, but John Morton coming over being the
play caller, having to adapt and adjust to what they
did previously while blending in his own stuff while also
(22:30):
having to meet the expectation of this fun and dynamic offense.
Because make no mistake about it, the people in Detroit
have grown accustomed to seeing what that offense looked like
under Ben Johnson.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
And it was fun, it was fast.
Speaker 5 (22:44):
They had flair Ken John Morton avoid the temptation of
trying to out Ben Johnson Ben Johnson and call the
game the way that he sees fit while continuing to
unlock the talents that you having Jared Goff and Amma
Are Saint Brown, Jamison William Samuel Porter and others.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
I mean, you're still loading. That's the point, right, Like,
so as long as you're protecting golf up front, you know,
you should be able to move the ball. And it's
a great point that you make about not trying to
you know, outdo Ben.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Don't try to be Ben. Just be yourself and let.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
This offense, go it's it's you know, Gibbs is the best,
I think, one of the best backs in football. I mean,
you just so explosive, you just loaded everywhere. I mean,
that offense is ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
I mean the offense is good. I mean the offense
is really good. It's talented. Jared Goff should be able
to run the offense on autopo. However, that that play
caller dynamic is interesting.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
How are they going to manage like his game?
Speaker 5 (23:49):
Because Ben Johnson, remember, Jared golf was a bit broken
when he came over from LA And when Ben Johnson
got the gig, he kind of like got elevated to
the gig, was able to kind of tap into some
things that helped Jared Goff re emerge as the Pro
Bowl player that he's become. Can John Morton continued to
do it? Can he continue to be that beacon of light?
(24:12):
Luckily all those a lot of the assistants stayed. But
it's still a different deal.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Yeah, yeah, a different caller. You know, it's that division fascinating.
I mean it's the best division in the NFC. And
you know, like you look at Ben Johnson and the Bears,
like I think. I mean they look good and and
(24:38):
I think he's going to reach Caleb. Like the whole preseason,
the idea for Caleb Williams has been listen, you've got
to trust me, You've got to trust the offense.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
You got to get rid of the football.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
And it's it's it was clear that was the messaging.
And Caleb looks like he's buying it because you know
he's got he's got great ability. I mean, the kick
could spin it, he could move. I mean, you know
Ben can make this can into just a stod So
(25:12):
you got great talent around you. I mean they're gonna
be if Caleb is running this offense where you should run.
I mean, they're gonna be good in dynamic look, man,
a lot of it.
Speaker 5 (25:23):
When it comes to Caleb, it comes down to discipline
and structure, all right. Is he disciplined enough to play
within the structure of the offense. Can he get the
ball out of his hands and a lot of playmakers
due to work, Can he avoid some of the hero
throws that he has a tendency to kind of fall into.
And can he play on time? Because if he plays
on time, the creativity, the scheming and all that guys
(25:45):
are going to be drawn up to be wide open.
He just simply needs to stay within himself, get the
ball to the guy as he goes through his progressions,
and just take what is there. If he does that,
this offense could be lights out.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Yeah. Yeah. And then you got Minnesota and I you know,
it's amazing because they're solid everywhere right Like you look
at their offense, you know, I mean you got great
skill guys. You got a good old line. I love
a flora is defense. You just don't know what the
(26:20):
quarterback is like that, it's such a question mark.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Who is JJ McCarthy, what's he going to be?
Speaker 2 (26:30):
That's the that's the what's fascinating is that they just
go all in and turn it over to them.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Yeah, I mean that's I mean, that's a big thing.
JJ McCarthy taking over. Didn't play his rookie year. Kevin
O'Connell is an offensive wizard, does a great job putting
quarterbacks in a position to succeed.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
This is what they do.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
Traditionally, when they roll them over, they find a way
to be able to get it done. I'll say this
about JJ McCarthy, I'll loved him when he was coming out.
I thought he had the right temperament. I'm a believer
and Harbard's expression of so much affinity for the guy
that you just think that he's going to be a
solid pro.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
It's surrounding him with the right pieces.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
Getting Adam Thielen to come back is big because that
gives them a route runner to replace Jordan Addison while
he's serving his suspension. The combination of those guys and
Justin Jefferson, that's big. Got to be able to run
the ball though, They're gonna need to be able to
run the ball effectively, and so the questions would be
can they run the ball well enough to stave off
(27:35):
some of these creative and aggressive pressure looks from their opponents.
But if they can get the balance that they need offensively, man,
that's another offense that can go.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Yeah, that's where that division is. It's incredible. I mean
it could be the most dynamic offenses and all the
conference right Like you look at the collection of them.
It's a fun division. How do you see it? If
I said to you give me the order at.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
Least going in, I will go Green Bay, Minnesota, Detroit, Chicago, Wow, Lions.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Third, somebody has to fall. I can't last forever.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
We can't.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
We can't be buying kneecaps and stuff forever. Somebody has
to fall back. And that's crazy because we talked about
all the good things about Chicago and then I still
had them.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Fourth death just speaks to how tough that division is.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Yeah, well it's interesting because you got Minnesota. So it's
almost like it's either going to be you either got
to buy into the vikings or the lines an the
coordinators bother you. But man, I we almost forget how
good they were before they got ravaged by injuries, just decimating.
(28:59):
Remember offensively, they just felled. I mean there's dominoes falling
every week. Yeah, I mean that. I mean that's that's
that's a big part of it.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
That's part of the game too, and that's the randomness
of the game.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
We can look at the paper.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
Lineups right now before the season starts and talk about, oh,
this team is gonna be good and that team is
gonna be good. Right, But ultimately it's how do you
navigate through whatever storms hits your weight as a team.
And those storms could be injuries, it could be just
a failed connection in chemistry that it takes a while
for you to find your stride.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
But how do you deal with the adversity?
Speaker 5 (29:35):
And the Lions will look normally, it doesn't Uh, the
injury bug doesn't bite you on multiple years back to back.
So maybe they can avoid it, but it certainly hurt
them last year.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Yeah, I maybe killed them. My only point is.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
They were the best team in the NFC during September, October, November,
and then they just got bit. And then when you
got bit, you know, I mean, it buried them and
we forget how good they are like that. That team
has has a ton of talent on that roster.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Yeah, I mean they look they got terrific talent on
the roster and they were playing their best ball in
the early months of the season. The key is to
be playing your best ball down the stretch. You want
to start getting it going in November, December, January. You
want to be playing at a high level for a deliance.
Do they had the competitive stamina to stay at the
(30:33):
aid level the entire the duration. That would be the kit.
That would be the key and the trick is for
Dan Campbell to get this coordinators up to park right
up the gate.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
I'll tell you Man, I'm loving just talking about it.
I have to be honest with it. I couldn't wait
for this weekend all summer long. I was wishing away
in summer, which is awful, but I was wishing to
wain in summer to get to the the fact that
the word in college football, the start of college football,
(31:06):
and then this is opening week in the NFL. Yeah,
it feels kind of good. Man. Thursday Night, the opener,
it's gonna be wild. Friday night Brazil with the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
It's it's all next thing, you know, man, It's just
like we're in it.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah, we are in it.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
The Brazil the international game certainly bring out a different
flair just seeing how that's all gonna play out.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Look, football is the greatest soap opera.
Speaker 5 (31:33):
I mean, the NFL has created the greatest real time
soaproper that you can watch. And all these storylines and
all of the belief and hope and optimism that so
many of these teams have is due to the fact
that the league has kind of set it up where
everyone is nine and eight, ten and seven.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Going into it.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
Everyone has the ability to get seven to ten, nine
and eight, ten and seven whatever to be that's where
you fall in the middle, and that gives you enough
optimism to think that this could be your team, This
could be your year to get a gun.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Yeah, man, spot on, all right, all right, lots to
get to we'll get bring it back to college football.
Will take a look at the schedule coming up. We'll
do some of that BUCkies in Cleveland. I'm in Philly
where the fellas Anthony Garganta and uh my man, Bucky
Brooks kicking it off on a Labor Day Saturday right
(32:32):
here on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, Fellas with Bucky Brooks.

on YouTube and subscribe. Yo, bop, What are you thinking
about the Monday? Your heels? What are you thinking? What's
it going look like? It's gonna look great. It's a
(33:15):
new era.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Bill Belichick coming taking a step down to the collegiate
level to bring my alma madel back to prominence. I'm
excited about it. I can tell you having been there
with Belichick.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
I came.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
I went back for official visit weekend over the summer.
The energy is just different within the building. I havn't
talked to some play former players, former teammates that are
still connected with the program. They just talk about the
pro approach that he's taking. And the big question that
a lot of people had is how's the seventy three
year old coach gonna connect with these young guys after
(33:49):
he's done everything that you could possibly accomplish as an
NFL coach. But they say, man, the players have been
real receptive, they're working the tails off and we'll see.
And I'll say this because it's gonna be a lot
of eyeballs on it Monday. I don't expect it to
be great out the gate, but I do expect him
to play well down the stretch. I think it may
(34:10):
take a minute for everything to kind of kick in,
but I think this team is gonna be one that
is a much better team the last half of the
season in the first half.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
So do you think it's gonna be a build for him?
Like I know they went heavy into portal what you
had to do, But do you think you know you
got to give them a chance to get ACCLA, maybe
get a stamp on things like let's I agree with you,
but I think even beyond just the first month of
(34:39):
the season that you got to give them a little
time just to establish what that program is going to be.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
Oh yeah, I think so. I think this is He's
long for this. I don't think this is a one
year deal. My eyes towards the NFL. I don't know
if you'll ever make it back to the NFL. To
be honest, what they've done, not only this year in
terms of the the transfer portal, but what how they've
stacked it recruiting wise, Like people haven't paid a close attention,
but this is a team that is really crushing it
(35:08):
on the recruiting trill. To me, he has an energy
where he is planning to be around to set this
thing up and to get the program going.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Yeah. I don't know how well you know him, but
you know been around him a little bit and you
kind of he's got an energy about like he does connect.
I mean, I think what we see in press conferences
in the media is not really who he is, Like
he's got like an pre engaging personality, Like he's got
(35:39):
a very very good engaging personality. I think it could work.
I'm fascinated by it. Michael Lombardi, who is his GM,
is a very sharp guy. I don't know. I can't
wait to see just, you know, little glimpses of it
because I'm with you, like you can't, you can't go
(36:03):
with it with some they like going on Belichick's you
got to give it time, you got you gotta give
it a little bit, a couple of years, get your
own recruiting class, all that stuff. If you're gonna be
if you're going to do this, And I think he
didn't come here to do it for a short period.
I think your spot on it when it comes to that.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Oh, he absolutely didn't do it like a short term fix.
They're in it for the long call. And they jumped
into portal because it's advantageous to jump into portal. As
Lombardi and Belichick I have said on numerous occasions, this
is very similar to pro and building your team with
free agency and recruiting is like the undrafted free agent market.
(36:44):
Some of that in terms of developing players and doing
it and trying to give players the pro experience.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
Here's what I know. The people that are.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
All about ball, the players that are all about ball,
that really love ball, they love the program because the
program is really literally all about ball, high level ball.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
In those things.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
And I'll say this, A coach on the staff told
me that who didn't know Belichick before he came in
and talked to me about how detailed he is in
everything and how it's a very clear, concise communication that
exists between coaches and coaches, coaches and players and players
and players.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
And that's what they really harped on. So we'll see.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
No guaranteed it's gonna be great out the gate, but
I can tell you that I'll be tuned in and
a lot of people are going to be tuned into
being to see what happens.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Yeah. Man, Now there was some Belichick stuff that happened
over the last couple of days, including trading trademarking gold
Digger because he and Jordan are going to start a
line of jewelry and so they trademarked gold Digger. I mean,
(37:59):
do you have to do? You gotta do what you
gotta do. Everything it'll be interesting.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
It'll be it'll be it'll be interesting because that storyline
has Dad down a little bit as it relates to
his his girlfriend.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
But there's still front of news. I'm sure there'll be
plenty of shots of her.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
They find it and this.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
I mean, it'll be a few of those things. But love,
that's that's part for the course. It's going to be that,
and look, man, it's worth wonders. Sometimes a little outside
attention on the lover relationship can pay off. I think
about the kan City Chiefs and Taylor Swift and Travis
Kelsey and how much attention has been on them, and
yet they went to the Super Bowl three years in
(38:45):
a row.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Maybe, just maybe.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
The fascination with Bill Belichick and his girlfriend stems leads
into like a better play from the football team at Carolina.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Yeah, now I feel your buddy. So they they also
trademarked chapel Bill mm hmmm, which is which is great?
Speaker 4 (39:08):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (39:09):
No days off and bellacast so you know the bellustrator
they or the telestrator.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
They went with the Bellustrator.
Speaker 5 (39:21):
Oh, I don't love that one as much as I
like the other ones, but when I get it, yeah,
I love that as much as I like the other one,
but I get it.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Uh, it is wild, Like when you think how this
story plays out, it's like, because we're gonna you know,
we'll have a game, uh Monday night and you'll see
on the sidelines. I still you know why Buck honestly, Like,
I still can't believe he's not in the leak. I'm
still shu stunned that you know, whether it was Dallas
(39:55):
or Atlanta, like you move on for McCarthy, Like, I
don't know. I think the guy can still coach, so't
you'll just lose it.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Overnight. I think that guy is a smart guy.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Everything he does is orchestrated, and I'm I can't believe
he's not the NFL.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Look Egos coming to play.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
You would think that someone who is desperate to get
their franchise up and going would take a swing on.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
A six time Super Bowl champion Egos.
Speaker 5 (40:22):
Everyone wants to do it their way, necessarily his way,
and so that's how he's locked out the league.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Yeah, crazy really is all right. What we're gonna do
is we'll go through some of the divisions continue that
lots to get to Bucky Brooks, Anthony Garden and fellas
Old Fox the Fox Sports Radio. Well, good morning, good morning,
good morning, good morning, Happy happy Labor Day weekend, and
(40:52):
this is the big Saturday. We start off with big
newon kickoff Texas Ohio State one v. Three. Bucky Brooks,
Anthony Garganta with you. Where the fellas going to talk
all about today's slate, what it looks like. But let's
(41:14):
hone in on this one because it's big Neon kickoff
on Fox. It really is.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
It's the game we've been talking about for months.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Buck Texas, Ohio State at the Shoe Arch's debut, right,
So we get to see Arts now as the full
time starter, Julian Saying, the sophomore quarterback makes his starting
debut as he gets handed the reins for the Buck guys.
(41:43):
Matt Patricia, the new defensive coordinator for Ohio State you
mentioned earlier, we were talking about it. Jeremiah Smith, who's
the best receiver in the country, incredible playmaker. Texas is
loaded and Texas has.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
Its own talent at receiver with Mingo.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
They got Wizdare, who's gonna r We'll carry the ball
for you like they This has got This is the
heavyweight fight to start the year.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
Buck, Yeah, everyway fight and this is exactly what you
want to see, Like, you want to have your teams
tested early in the year to see what the strengths
and the weaknesses are. And with the twelve team playoff,
it gives you a chance to improve and become a
better version of yourself when you get into the tournament.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (42:39):
You brought up Matt Patricia being a new de coordinator
at Ohio State that I forgot that he had taken
that job. And he's replacing Jim Knowles who went down
to Penn State. Some change there for Ohio State. How
does Ryan Day keep everything rolling the way that it
was rolling last year while bringing in some new pieces,
(42:59):
new person, new voices. It's tough because now Ohio State
has always been like that team that is up there,
but now they go from being the hunters to the hunted.
Everyone have their target on their back to use them
as the measuring stick.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
So let's go. Let's look at Texas for a second
and focus it. YEA, what do we What are we
expecting from Arch? You know you got you got the
glimpse of him last year. It's hard to expect anything.
Speaker 5 (43:30):
He's only had ninety five career pass attempts. Like so,
all the speculation him being the odds on front runner
for the Heisman, people talking about him being a number
one overall pick A lot of that to do with
name brand and legacy. We haven't seen him play enough
to really.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Get a feel for who he is and what he
could be.
Speaker 5 (43:49):
When we have seen him play, He's talented, he's athletic,
He's more athletic than his uncles.
Speaker 4 (43:54):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
He makes plays in those things, but he's inexperienced. I
would think that some of that inexperience is going to
show up as he plays more this year and ended
a drastic improved the following year if he alects to
stay around. So it'll be a tough game for him.
Our higher state is gonna mix the coverage, They're gonna
change the picture, They're gonna do some things. Caleb Downs
(44:15):
is arguably be the best defensive player in football. It's
gonna be a tough day for arch Manning, but how
he shows up is going to determine really early how
people view him as not only a Heisman Trophy front runner,
but a potential number one quarterback in this next draft class.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Well, how much does it help him that he got
to watch and you got to watch a veteran quarterback
last year? He did get some playting time. His athleticism
was was on display. He was able to get you know,
to get the feel of it right, so he was
in big games like he appeared in games, so he
(44:55):
saw the speed of it. How much will that help
his transition?
Speaker 5 (45:00):
I mean it helps some, but nothing prepared you for
playing other than playing. So there's gonna be some growing
pains that he experiences that we all have to be
okay with watching him go through it because it's just tough,
Like that's just what it is. It's a tough deal
making that transition to being a starting NFL I mean
starting NFL quarter a starting quarterback at the collegiate level
(45:22):
for a program that operates like an NFL program with
the expectations in those things. I think Sark is one
of the best play callers that you will find.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
And what he would do is he'll put him in
a position to succeed.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Yeah, he's Sarks a quarterback guy, so you know he
knows how to bring along quarterbacks. And look, when you start.
He didn't start two games, right, he appeared in ten.
He started two, so it's not like he's coming in
completely green. And I don't know, I remember watching those games,
and you know, he's he looks the part right like
(46:00):
obviously you know you're gonna have to do it and
the whole thing. But he looks the part. He can
make all the throws, and he can move.
Speaker 5 (46:11):
I mean, he can do all those things, looking the
part and playing the part of two different things and
playing against uh, I think it was Louisiana Monroe and
and ut s a like that. That's nice, but the
big boys were about him.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
We can talk about him, I hear you. Yeah, yeah,
we can talk about all of that.
Speaker 5 (46:35):
So I feel there'll be some growing pains. It's a
matter of how can Sark set him up for success?
Who can we uh get the ball to, who can
we lean on early until he settles down? And how
does he handle when he does make a mistake. Does
he bounce back quickly or does it take him a
while to come kind of come back?
Speaker 2 (46:55):
And look, what concerns me too is you know you
got a line that's got four new starters. Yeah, that's
that that's a bit of an issue too, you know,
I mean, I hear good things, but I still gotta
do it. You're gonna do it in that kind of environment.
And Wisner last year struggled against Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Forty six yards on seventeen characters.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Remember I remember the second of goal he got tackled
for a loss, right like, So now you gotta go there.
This game is fascinating, dude, It's just fascinating because I
vacillated going back and for like, you know, I think
I like taxes. I think I like tax Then I'm going,
(47:44):
you know, Hiowa State. When you look at that, I
go back and forth on it. I think the whole
world's on Texas right now. But I'm there's a lot
of unknowns with this thing.
Speaker 5 (47:59):
I mean, there's certainly a lot of unknowns when it
comes to both teams, despite the immense talent that is
on both rosters. It's one thing they have talent on
the roster. It's another thing they have that talent play
and play at a high level. The team that settles
in the quickest is gonna be the team that has
the most success. Here's the thing, though, you got newbies
(48:23):
at both quarterback positions, and it's gonna come down to which.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
One plays the best, you know Arch Manning.
Speaker 5 (48:31):
Say, like who takes over, who settles in, who's able
to get the ball to their playmakers consistently, who makes
the clutch moments and avoids the big turnover. That's what
it comes down to because you take quarterbacks out of
the equation. Man, it's about as even steven as you
can find when it comes to the roster composition.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Yeah, what do we see from? What are we going
to see from saying he's interesting? I mean he got
a couple of coffee last year through eighty four yards
of a touchdown and that's that's really it. But he's
a you know, he's a sophomore, took twenty seven snaps,
(49:10):
was five to twelve or eighty four yards in a touchdown,
came into camp, it was his job, and he wanted early.
I'm curious to see what we're going to see out
of him because all the talks on Arch. But you know,
here you go Julian saying welcome to the Buckeyes.
Speaker 5 (49:29):
Yeah, it's a yeah, it's funny when you bring it,
when you break it down like that, because all of
the conversation has been on Arch, A little of the
conversation has been on saying, but saying could take it
in a way where a, you guys are coming to
see him, but this is my debut. I'm gonna show
up and show out. Maybe that's how he plays, you know.
He plays with a little extra swag to show people like, Hey,
(49:52):
I'm I'm no slouch.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
I can hold my own.
Speaker 5 (49:55):
I was a former five star recruit too, I can
get this thing done.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
The main thing for him is, I would say keep
it simple.
Speaker 5 (50:02):
Your galon the perimeter, jeremih Smith is better than any
other player in the country on the perimeter. Make sure
he touches the ball early and often, and let his
success fear your success.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
Yeah, yeah, Wow, this is a Titan Titan matchup to
start today. So let's go through the schedule of what
today looks like. So again, new Big New kickoff on Fox,
which we cannot wait for. Also at noon, Sarah, Cus
(50:36):
and tennessee the falls. What do we know about the
falls this year? That's gonna be interesting. Can hypel get
it going? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (50:50):
Well, what we do know about the balls is they
played a little bit of a quarterback swap.
Speaker 3 (50:55):
Yep, they quarterback.
Speaker 5 (50:58):
Leaves and big money goes to UCLA bring in a
new quarterback. They're trying to figure out how to work
that in. This system is unique because it's some of
the old art browse system from Baylor, where they create
big play opportunities all over.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
The field and they also can gass you in the
running game.
Speaker 5 (51:16):
Tennessee is one where Josh Eipel has become a really
really good head coach and this team has the potential to,
uh man, blow your doors off. If you're you're prepared
to do with that offense, they can get you up
out of day in a hurry.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
Yeah, it's uh the cold quarterback all eyes talking about
on quarterback Now Syracuse is not is you know they
lose the cord that they lose a lot of the
soul of that team pain you. So it'll you know,
I think they're in a bit of a transition. So
you get uh Tennessee, they're a pretty big favorite, as
(51:56):
much as the quarterbacks is a question mark. I kind
of like, I kind of like them today in the
role uh Indiana Old Dominion in the FS one two
thirty and then number two Penn State. Now they got Nevada,
they got an easy schedule the first month of the
season until you get Oregon is pretty easy for Penn State.
(52:20):
You know, they could be the best team in the country.
The number two. They have another quarterback who is who
is waiting? They're all eyes are going to be on
and Drew Aller. You bring back both backs. You went
into the portal. You got three receivers including paying you.
You got a tight end who I hear may not
(52:40):
be Warren, but he's a different type of tight end
who could take it down the field and go vertical.
So they are loaded. Penn State is absolutely loaded. James
Franklin's got a squad.
Speaker 5 (52:53):
He does have a squad, but he always has a squad.
It seems like you're over there waving your white and
blue pomp poms over there, you're ready to get give
them the ready to give them the crown.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
I've seen enough. It seems like you've seen enough. You're
ready to just yeah for the on board pens.
Speaker 5 (53:15):
Thing is they always run through the cupcakes early and
then it's about how do they play. I mean, let's
just be honest, no no envy at all. I'm just
keeping it as the young people say, I'm keeping it
a buck they just they like to roll through the cupcakes.
And then James Franklin and those guys have to play
(53:38):
the heavyweights and they haven't fared as well. Top five,
top ten teams, They just they just haven't farewell. So
can they get over that hump to put themselves in
a position where they have favorable matchups in the playoff
Because this is a playoff team, this is a national
h title contender.
Speaker 2 (53:55):
They have what you need.
Speaker 3 (53:56):
But I will say this.
Speaker 5 (53:57):
For Drew Aller, he if he's going to separate himself
and shied some of the maybe Christian Hackenberg feel to
his game as an.
Speaker 2 (54:08):
NFL he's not prospect. Hold on, come on, bro hold on,
hold on, hold on.
Speaker 5 (54:13):
I'm just saying it as an NFL prospect because there's
some good.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
But then the playoffs were bad. The playoffs were bad.
Speaker 5 (54:20):
Those numbers are those numbers that a little over fifty percent,
and and you get excited about that in big games.
Speaker 2 (54:28):
I mean, like, I get that, I get that, but
I mean that's why they went and got they got
three receivers in the portal. I'm with you that. I mean,
he's got to show out now, like all right, now
you got no excuse. You got both your backs back, right,
you got two star backs, so you're gonna be living
off the run game, right and that should open things up.
(54:50):
And now you've got three receivers, all right, you three
legitimate you have targets. Last year you have any other
than one. But now you got legitimate weapons. And the
tight end that you got now is good. So I
feel you, I think so. Yeah, So to say about it,
I'd like to see this offense.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
Let him cook a little bit.
Speaker 5 (55:14):
They're very very conservative. Maybe they're very conservative because they
know you can't you can't let him cook too much.
Maybe he's more of a crock pot Maybe he's a
Maybe he's a maybe he's a crock pok chief not
not someone that is doing the culinary school.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
We just want to make sure, Frankly, you want to
make sure great armed because it's pretty. It's pretty. And
I'm not putting this out there.
Speaker 5 (55:41):
I'm just saying, sometimes I worry, I worry about Yeah,
I worry. I worry about the Hackenberg thing. I just
worry about I worry about.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Him, not yeah. See, I'm not saying him that's not
a violation.
Speaker 5 (55:58):
I'm just saying, look, Hackenberg held it down, doing a
very rough yie of Penn State football. He held it down.
He was the second round pick. I'm just saying with Drew,
he he has to show me some of that baller
feel that I used to get from Trace mcsorely.
Speaker 2 (56:18):
Trace McSorley was a ball.
Speaker 5 (56:19):
Undersize and all that, but there was no doubt when
him and Sakwua were there they were ballers.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
I need him to ball out.
Speaker 5 (56:25):
So I feel good about them in these matchups because
I'm not looking at them and what it is in
the regular season, but I'm trying to look at what
does Penn State look like against Texas?
Speaker 2 (56:36):
How are they gonna look? Dude, you're spotting right, You're
right about that.
Speaker 5 (56:41):
How are they gonna look? Yeah, how are they gonna
look if they have to play l s U? If
LSU is good, if we have to break out in
a quarterback shootout, can Drew Aller hold his own?
Speaker 2 (56:53):
Like that's that's the medion. Other questions, well, that's why
to combing on them, to let him error it out
a little bit, like why, I mean, there were times
you need to throw the bowl in the second half,
but two times like you gotta you gotta establish that,
Like you know you're gonna be able to run the football.
Speaker 3 (57:09):
You've got to you gotta go.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
You have an O line and you got both your
back's back all right, you're gonna be able to run it.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
I want establish alur.
Speaker 2 (57:19):
Let him feel good about himself, let him, let him
feel confident. You're right about cupcakes. You got here's your
here's your schedule. You got the that of today f
I U Villanova, then a buye. Then you got Oregon
at home in a white van.
Speaker 5 (57:39):
Yeah, schools you're doing over here in Pensteake.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
Wrong, We've got a lot of cupcakes on the schedule.
It's uhs. And then you got at U c l A.
Northwestern at then you get a bye. Then you're at
Ohio State. So the two big tasks at a home
(58:09):
Oregon at Ohio State, you have a bye before both games.
Speaker 5 (58:15):
Well, I feel like I should already pencil Penn stayed
into the playoffs. And even if they stay true to
who they've been when it comes to big games, even
if they took two ils right Oregon in Ohio State,
that they're still gonna get in. So they're in the
playoffs no matter what. Unless they have a hiccup. They're
(58:35):
gonna be in the playoffs after Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
You got Indiana at home, at Michigan State Man, and
at Rutgers.
Speaker 5 (58:45):
Okay, now, I will say put a little ask by Nebraska.
Nebraska's the teams. I think you have your attention to
put a little ask by there.
Speaker 3 (58:52):
But right now I'm gonna go online to see where
I can order my playoff.
Speaker 5 (58:56):
Tickets because that schedule right there, they scheduled their way
to the postseason.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
There's no excuse because you don't play Michigan. And listen,
Michigan could be sneaky, but you really only have two
games that you're really concerned with. And again, you get
an Oregon at home, it'll be a white out, and
you get buyes like that's a big That's a huge
advantage to have a bye before those games. It's a
(59:24):
huge advantage.
Speaker 5 (59:25):
But I'm gonna ask you, just because I do know
from some of my pants save friends, sometimes this subject
becomes a little touchy.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
How do we feel about our head coach?
Speaker 2 (59:36):
I like Franklin, and I know everybody gets on them.
I get it, I get it, I know he and listen,
he's a great recruiter. I think he I do believe
if there's a sin with Franklin, it's he gets conservative.
(59:58):
But I think this is the I root for the guy.
He's a great guy. I mean, he's a good football man.
He's a really good dude. I'd like to see him
as success just again, just from a human on a
human level, because I know what the guy puts into it.
(01:00:18):
I know the guy. I think the guy's a really
good coach and I you know, listen, you gotta you
gotta have a little swag on those big games.
Speaker 5 (01:00:29):
Okay, I do think he's a really good coach. I
love the swag that he brings. Would you call him elite?
Is he an elite coach?
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:00:40):
Okay, So in these matchups, when you're looking at your team,
we're talking about your quarterback, you're you're you're bigger.
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
On him than I am.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
Well, I like it's I think the dude's got to
do Like he's not hacking berg As got a great
alarm even like I like trench, but arm, this kid's
got a legitimate arm. He does haven't have an armed retard.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
No, we're talking about the baller factor.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
When I talk about trace mc sorely. I'm talking.
Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
I got he was an absolute ball and the bigger
the game, the better he played.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
I guess so from Drew, I'm looking to see that
from him. Now it's gonna They're gonna allow him to
be able to do it. That's my big I mean,
let it be hard, let us see what what what
with the schedule? Go go, let him go.
Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
I mean yeah, I mean, you're basically playing the game
of shoots some letders schedule. You're not playing anybody, So
you just I mean you can spend the will and.
Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
Let him and let him do it.
Speaker 5 (01:01:48):
But ultimately it's gonna come down to do those two people.
It's gonna come down to the quarterback and the head
coach in those big games Oregon, Ohio State and the postseason.
It can those guys outperform their counterparts because data determined
if Fann State Hoisty Trophy or Crystal Ball or whatever
(01:02:09):
it is.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Now debt All right, we'll take quick t o come
right back and roll through some more of today's schedule.
This is this is awesome. Bucky Brooks Anthony Gargantto. We
are the fellas right here on FOP Sports.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
Radio, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR
to listen live.
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
All right, Welcome back Fellas with Bucky Brooks and Anthony
Garganto as we hang out on Labor Day weekend. Hey,
before we get the rest of his schedule, Buck, my
heart goes out to the Dallas sports fan. Could you
imagine in one year you lose Luca and Micah. I mean,
(01:03:12):
you lose Dodgeons and you lose Parsons in the same year.
Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
I'm sorry, man, that's rough.
Speaker 5 (01:03:22):
Yeah, I mean like that. That is definitely a rough deal.
That's a rough encounter, rough situation for him.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
But that's the.
Speaker 5 (01:03:29):
Life because with both of those stars, you have some
issues and things that surrounded them, and it just made
you wonder, are you willing to invest heavily in a
player who's immensely talented, but you don't know if they're
the right long term fit in the.
Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
Locker room, so they move on from them.
Speaker 5 (01:03:48):
Here's the thing, you won't know until we get to
the end of the road. And so for the Cowboys,
they won't know for two years because the way the
picks are and those things, and then you pick them.
You got to wait for them to play, so they
won't have any resolution.
Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
I get.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
I look at the Mavericks get Cooper flag, so you
know you're you're good. Yeah, yeah, you played off.
Speaker 5 (01:04:12):
I mean maybe maybe the Cowboys, because remember the Cowboys
gonna be in a quarterback market given deck fresgusting, maybe
they take your guy Drew, or maybe they get into
the paid I mean the arch Man, Yeah you got
I mean yeah, I just man, Yeah, you find it
for him, so maybe we put him in Dallas or
(01:04:35):
maybe it's Archman.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
They're not gonna be craft that high though, come on,
they're not. You're not gonna be able to get up there.
Speaker 4 (01:04:40):
I mean the.
Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
Saints, they're gonna be horrible, poor Brie, our producer, Bri.
It's or squad. But it's a rebuild year for New Orleans,
so you know, Dallas, I can't expect them to. I
don't think they're gonna be that bad. And even if
you have the added asset of the late for round pick,
the Packers pick, I don't think it's gonna be enough
(01:05:03):
to get one of the quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (01:05:06):
Yeah, I mean, it's gonna take a lot to move
up there and everyone that has an eye towards that
class and what's coming out and what's on the horizon,
So it will be hard to kind of move around
and maneuver. But the main thing is whenever you pick
and whomever you pick, you gotta make sure that they
become a player. Because you gave up a really good
football player, uh and let them go to Green Bay.
Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Still tough on. I'm still blown away by that move.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
I'm still blown away that they just didn't sign them Buck.
I don't understand how they do business. They've had issues,
that issue signing CD, that issue signing DAK, Like, what
are you doing that? I didn't have issue signed with
Zeke Elliott, which was a disaster.
Speaker 5 (01:05:53):
I wonder if Jerry would get the same treatment that
Nico Harrison got after the trade. You want to be
a lot of vitriol casts his way after after letting
one of the more popular Cowboys go, We'll see interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
Well, I mean in this off season and in the preseason,
he's with the Netflix show. He's all about the drama drama. Oh,
Cowboys and drama drama.
Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
And no such thing as bad publicity.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
Well, you know, and he's doing his historyonics right and
all that. I mean, the press conference was crazy. The
first question he goes off on a winding ten minute
tangent that was nonsensical. Fuck, are you kidding me? He's
(01:06:44):
complete Listen all do all honesty. I grew up in Philadelphia, right,
so we loathe the Cowboys, right, So this is like
a this is in one part at least where I live,
it's like it's the happiest of time, right of football times.
But when I look at it from a football standpoint
(01:07:05):
a football fan, I look at it and go, it's
not right. You know, this idea of drama and it
only matters when you win. Substance comes from winning. And
he just said they've been a disaster the way they've
been run.
Speaker 5 (01:07:24):
They haven't been run very well. It hasn't been the
same really since the Jimmy Johnson.
Speaker 4 (01:07:29):
Eric.
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
That's why I spent a long time in between Super Bowls.
Speaker 5 (01:07:32):
He's showing you as a general manager, he's far more
emotional than practical.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Yes, if you've seen the Netflix series.
Speaker 5 (01:07:41):
On America's Steam and Him, and you get a better
understanding of what he does is he's the ultimate risk
taker and he does not care.
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
He's in charge of the team. He's gonna roll the
dice and.
Speaker 5 (01:07:52):
Because it's his team, Cowboys fans have to live with
the result. But I'm gonna tell you right now, there's
gonna be a lot of whoop Minister, a lot of Thursdays.
Oh or now you know that your quarterback would not
(01:08:13):
be happy with you basically guaranteeing could win on air.
I want to send a guarantee like Jalen Hurst would not.
He would look at you and he would give you like.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
The little I know them well, you know, but it's
you with me. I always got to keep it real,
all right. So it's whooping Thursday night. Let me tell
you something. They're gonna be as good. We'll get into
the NFC's coming up, but they're gonna be as good
(01:08:45):
as they were last year. They're they're they're all the
way legit. Bo oh. We're counting on a repeat too.
What else are we doing. I'm not gonna be hot taking,
you know, Joe fan. But I mean they're good. I mean,
let's see if they could stay healthy like last year,
they were blessed with health, right, So if they're blessed
(01:09:07):
with health, they're gonna be obviously, they're gonna win the division,
and they're gonna.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
Be obviously obviously. Not that the Commanders are a threat
at all.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Or were not a threat. I love Listen, I love
Daniel is the truth. But come on, bro, like, did
you not see did you not watch the games last year?
You dismissed? Did you not see the dominance on both
sides of the of the football you're dismissing.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
You're dismissing.
Speaker 5 (01:09:41):
I mean, you're just missing the team from the Nascance
Capital stop. Maybe the best quarterback in the division.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
In fact, he is. I'll tell you off the bat,
I'm a hurtsman, but Daniels is the best of the
best quarterback in the division. Daniels is ridiculous. I mean,
and people talking about sophomore slump, No, that's that's nonsense.
Because of C. J. Strouds. J.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
Daniels can make every throw.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
He can move. He's brilliant. He's so quick at processing.
He processes things so quickly. He is a great quarterback
who's just gonna get better and better and better. He is.
He is.
Speaker 5 (01:10:31):
The team is good, man, The team in d C
is good. I'm just saying I know you're playing in
the championship game last year. Might see a little repeat
performance of that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:41):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
The only thing that makes sense is they got older.
Like I'm not in love what they did defensively, Oh,
you know, like the experience. I mean, I feel they
got older. I mean, I mean the Eagles got younger.
The Eagles average age on defense is twenty four. They
(01:11:02):
did I mean, they did get they got a little,
they got a little older.
Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
Yeah, the Eagles got younger. What's interesting about the Eagles
being the youth movement is so many young guys in
the secondary moving on from Darius Lay and all those
other guys like, man, I don't know then c J.
Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
Garner Johnson was kind.
Speaker 5 (01:11:20):
Of like the heartbeat got him up out the paint.
I mean, I don't know, Man, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:11:29):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
They got they got the they have the best. They'd
hear me, the best defensive tackle in football, he's the truth,
no doubt, he's all right. And in that secondary, you
got the best young cover corner and just we're throwing
(01:11:51):
a lot of besties, a lot of supperses. I feel
like I'm beckon, I feel like I'm in high school. Yeah,
maybe back in high school. Most likely to best dressed.
How about that's young uh Nickel slash safety middle of
the field.
Speaker 5 (01:12:10):
Oh dear Henry, Oh I void cop Oh my god,
like man shortage Campbell, no shortage of humility in Philly.
This would be so great, it's gonna say, because you
(01:12:30):
and I can't imagine.
Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
I can't imagine.
Speaker 5 (01:12:33):
Uh w I p if it's a Cowboys somehow pulled
off the unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
Oh, I may have to call in stop.
Speaker 5 (01:12:41):
I may have to go in. I may have to
go in. I just I just have to I may
just have to listen to it. Just Oh my god,
don't make me root for TCU. You're gonna do it anyway.
You're gonna do it anyway, and you're probably gonna wear
a gold Digger shirt. You're probably gonna wear a Gold
Digger shirt and be ready to go.
Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
I think picto fucking Bucks, Anthony gar Gatto hang it
out right here, Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back Fellas Bucky,
cause as we hang out, football.
Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
Is back Baby.
Speaker 2 (01:13:23):

This is I don't know what you got? What you
got cooking? And you got the game that you're working today?
You got the game? I got the game. I got
(01:14:07):
the game. The game is tomorrow. I got some like
the game tomorrow. What times the game is it on TV?
With the game is on the NFL?
Speaker 5 (01:14:14):
NFL network is four o'clock eastern? Yeah, so it's four
o'clock eastern. Will take care of that. So I just
have some meetings and stuff, but my eyes will.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
Be on the TV. So I'm good to go.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
All right, great, great? And then do your kid So
my kids start school this week, so this is like
a busy This is like the one day I'll have
like this today and tomorrow before the craziness starts. We
uh we we start school and then both kids play football,
(01:14:48):
so uh it'll be you know, it's we're going to
start the season next week and the whole thing. So
it's crazy. How about you. Are you your kids back?
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (01:15:01):
Now, my kids are off in school. So my daughter's
at Texas, my son's at San Jose State, so they're off.
Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
So now in my area, in my area, school is back. Okay,
so it's on. We're post labor day. You guys are
pre labor day? Yeah, yeah, you.
Speaker 5 (01:15:20):
Do you miss the kids? Yeah, I'm still adjusting. I'm
still adjusting to not talking and seeing them every day. Well,
my son has been not my son's in like a
fifth year, but my daughter, my daughter being gone, so
it's it's different, but it's cool. It's all good. They
need to grow and prosper. Yes, it's a different thing.
(01:15:41):
So I'm looking forward to that when my daughter being
a freshman, this is our first big game.
Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
U T so going to the great.
Speaker 5 (01:15:49):
Yeah yeah cool, we'll see what we'll see what it
looks like, see what it eventually, uh sounds like when
I talk to you today after.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
Right right right? My voice? Yeah yeah, yeah, I just
right like how much fun? How much fun did you
have the night before. Yeah, so it'd be fun. That's cool,
that's awesome. I had a buddy of mine he texted
me last Saturday, like it was early Saturday morning. One
of my dear friends, his oldest goes to Penn State
and he just dropped his daughter off to Saint Joe's University.
Speaker 3 (01:16:25):
And so he texted me.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
He's like, dude, because my boys are twelve and fifteen,
and he said, he goes cherish every moment that you
got with him, because today I'm really broken up. Man.
I realized my you know, he's like his son Sammy
went off to school yesterday and I dropped me off
this morning, and I'm going home to an empty house
(01:16:51):
and I'm just broken heart and I felt for him.
I was like, oh man, and you know, I kind
of could. I could. I could see it, right, because
my guys, you're twelve or fifteen, and you know you
now close you are and it's a beautiful time. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:17:09):
No, it's it is different, and it'd be funny just
talking to him, however often I talked to him every
other day whatever it is. But it's funny, like you
go from being like the parent that a my word
is whatever to now, it's more of a partnership, an.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Advisory role, right, like adjusting to that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:33):
Hey, I don't think you should, but you know that
might not be the best decision. So it's just a
different it's a different feel. And I think, and I'll
say this, I don't know how big flag football is
out that way, particularly girls, but over the last year
girls flag has exploded.
Speaker 3 (01:17:51):
Particularly California. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:17:52):
So my daughter was playing flag football and I'm gonna
tell you, like it made her like this hardcore football
fan and so even but even more so than my son.
So now the conversations that I'm having with her are
about ball and teams and I watched this game and
that game and awesome. Yeah, so it's uh, it's a funny.
(01:18:14):
It's a funny thing to uh to got to deal with.
Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
Ah, that's great. I love that. Yeah, that's the greatest
thing about it is that because it's blown up here
too and girls loving it man, and some really good players.
It's it's awesome to have that kind of outlet. And
I love the fact that you're able to kind of
connect with her on that level because it's it's the
(01:18:42):
greatest thing man.
Speaker 5 (01:18:44):
Yeah know, it's it's been fun. So now both of
your boys play ball?
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
What what? What?
Speaker 3 (01:18:49):
What are your boys into? So they play?
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
So my fifteen year old is sophomore in uh high school.
He's an edge and uh, he's a pretty big boy.
He's like he's about six six one two, you know,
to twenty five. And my little one he's twelve. He's quarterback. Okay, yeah,
(01:19:13):
he's pretty good. He's got he's you know, I mean whatever,
he's twelve, but he's got he's got really big hands.
He's gonna, he's gonna he should be pretty big, and uh,
it's fun.
Speaker 3 (01:19:23):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:23):
And he plays he also plays baseball too, so he
plays travel baseball. So I love I love it. I'm
like not, I help coach every sport, like we play basketball,
like the whole thing. So we're I'm coaching every sport
and you know, I'm for the big one. I'm holding
the the sticks up for the on the sidelines. Yeah.
(01:19:49):
I love buck like you know, I love it. I
you know, I practice and you know when I can
be and you know, it's it's it's a lot of fun,
you know. I love you. Like our lives with my
wife and I were like consumed by it. My oldest
one also rose on the in the spring, so she's
out there and she's on these rivers and you know,
(01:20:12):
it's fun.
Speaker 4 (01:20:12):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
It's just like we're all in sports family. You know.
One of the things I love about it is it's
the community, right like, because all the people and it
brings people together, the youth sports and high school sports.
All Right, we gotta take a quick to you. We'll
come back look at college football. Fellas on Fox Sports Radio. Well,
(01:20:36):
good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning, Happy college football. Baby.
It's on Big Saturday, Big newon Kickoff coming up, Fellas,
Bucky Brooks, Anthony Gargano on this uh momentous Labor Day weekend.
We have finally reached it because us football heads, we're
(01:21:00):
obsessed with it, and uh it's finally here as we
come you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. So Buck,
let's kind of go over the rest of the day
today and some of the games that we talked at
length about Texas, Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Who do you like to win the game?
Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
By the way, one thing we didn't discuss is who
you may like in the game.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
I know, tough one. It is a tough one.
Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:21:27):
It's it's really a tough SOO just that's doesn't that's
a tough one. I don't know, man, I'm still going
back and forth and I need to see what they
look like in pregame before I can make a decision
on this one.
Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
I know, I know, I know. It's hard, man, it
really is. You know, you look at him and you go,
you can make a case radit either one right because
you look and you go. Obviously everybody's in love with
Texas because of arts, the whole thing. But you know,
you got you got a new offensive line, you get
(01:21:59):
your play some four or five starters at O line.
Speaker 3 (01:22:03):
Now Texas is O line. You know you but you
still gotta.
Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
You still gotta be able to deploy to protect, and
you gotta protect that the shoe.
Speaker 5 (01:22:14):
Yeah, and that's that's the hard place to play, Like,
I think that's that's the thing. And they can talk
about being in the SEC and playing those teams in
those environments, but the shoe is a little different. Uh,
You're talking about a defending national champion. So the holdovers
have that championship pedigree and they beat you last time
they saw you. Now everything is different. Because the offense've
(01:22:34):
been defensive coordinator is are different, so they won't call
the game the same. But still that team has a
confidence even when they see the burnt orange come out
of the tunnel, that they know the last time we
squared off of these dudes, we knocked them out. I
will go strictly because I am all in on Sark
and Sark getting this done.
Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
I think Texas was off a big win. I think
they get to win on the road. Yeah, yeah, you know,
I'm with you with the Sark factor. And we know
he's a QB whisper, so you know, I mean, you know,
and you know Archie's going to be prepared. Well we'll
see obviously something to do with but he you know,
coming in he'll be as prepared as you could possibly be.
Speaker 5 (01:23:18):
Yeah, And I mean that's the best thing and the
number one thing when you're a new quarterback, you're playing
a young guy, is you want him just to Hey,
don't feel like you got to be the hero. You
don't have to go at this alone. You don't have
to make all these wild decisions. You just doing what
you do in practice is good enough for us doing.
We just need that version of you to show up
(01:23:40):
and that version is good enough.
Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
I mean, the kid is talented, he's athletic, and I know.
Speaker 5 (01:23:46):
We talked earlier about ninety five career past attempts, that's
all he has. But sometimes you got it and he
may be one of those guys who has it because
it's you know, when I was scouting, we used to
talk about it's the family business. Quaterbacking is the family
business for the manning. So I'm confident that if he
can't get it done early, he can lean them to
(01:24:07):
some of them lessons that he learned from his uncles
and his granddad to figure out a way to get
it done.
Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
Yeah, yeah, I'm with you. All right, let's keep going
further down the slate at three point thirty Eastern twelve
thirty Pacific, Georgia, Marshall. Now it feels like everybody's sleeping
on Georgia. Yeah, yeah, right, And you know, I like
Gunner stocked and I thought he flashed. I thought they
(01:24:36):
played well, and then I heard that they're just loaded
defensively again, like their front seven is ridiculous, restocked and
ready to go.
Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
I mean, look, it is Georgia and the fact that they're.
Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
Being ignored is funny because there.
Speaker 5 (01:24:52):
Is no doubt that they're one to top three most
talented rosters in ball. And when you have Kirby who
just needs a little ammunition to get this team cranked
and going, they're gonna be ready to deal with it.
They're gonna be ready to bounce back and have it.
And so Marshall is a good test. And then Marshall's
having a new coach, has a successful coach that left
(01:25:14):
one Southern Miss. So we'll see if they really get
tested in this one. But yeah, George is a team
to talk about because no one is talking about the
Bulldogs anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
I know, you know Kirby bad. Come on, how didn't
sleep all that program? Here's their schedule? Now it's a gauntlet, right,
it's sec So it's a gauntlet. Marshall today, Austin p
next week. Then at twenty four Tennessee home against Bama,
(01:25:50):
home against Kentucky, and Kentucky won't be bad this year.
At Auburn, we saw Auburn. Alburn's good all, but we
swatched Alborn last night. They're good. I think the Tigers
are a good squad. Home against Ole Miss at Florida,
which which is good at Mississippi State home Texas, then
(01:26:17):
Charlotte and then at Georgia Tech. I mean that's that's
a formidable schedule. Uh yeah, that's a that's a.
Speaker 5 (01:26:24):
Head knocker, and they're Bill fourd oh, because you got
to be resiliing to deal with all of that other
stuff and if you come through that gauntlet alive and will,
it really gives you a lot of confidence going into
the postseason that you can deal with anything that is
thrown in front of you.
Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
So then you got Bama at three point thirty Bama
Florida State, which is a great game on ABC and
BABA is another one that we've been sleeping on. You
got Ty Simpson going to make his debut.
Speaker 5 (01:27:02):
You know, this is one we're talking about Bama and
Kevin de Boor and what he needs to do and
getting this team in this program kind of back to
playing at the level that we're custom seeing them on
the Nick Saban and I think, look, this is a
look a must win game for them. They got to
get this team kicked off the right way, and we
(01:27:24):
talked about Simpson making his first start.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
Ryan Grubb has rejoined.
Speaker 5 (01:27:27):
KELLN the Boar down in tuscal Lusa after one year
stint with the Seahawks. That should help them run the
system that they want to run. But man, the quarterback
has to play well. He has to play well out
the gate.
Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
So unlike you know, these other kids, like you know,
he's been there for three years, He's had chances to
leave to enter the portal. He stayed right, stay behind
Bryce Young, he stayed behind Jalen Milroe.
Speaker 3 (01:27:55):
And now he gets his chance. How much is it
going to help him the fact.
Speaker 2 (01:27:59):
That he's stayed right, that he matured, that he's been
in that quarterback room and he finally gets the chance.
I hear great things about him, and you know, I
love the fact that he stuck it out. Yeah, man,
look I like that too.
Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
It's uncommon in today's state of affairs where someone is
gonna stay and work and earn their way onto the field,
But him doing that speaks to his character.
Speaker 2 (01:28:27):
Now we can.
Speaker 5 (01:28:28):
Love all those stories, but at the end of the day,
you got to perform and produce. So it comes down
to the performance and its production under his direction at QB.
But I do love that he stayed. He should be
better for it. We'll see if it's reflected in the
way that he performs as.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
The first time starter. Yeah, yeah, I'm curious.
Speaker 3 (01:28:50):
Now you got Ryan Williams. That's gonna help you. I mean,
that makes it a lot easier.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
I found this.
Speaker 5 (01:28:57):
You're much better coach when you have good players. You're
much better player when just round about great players. It
all works together.
Speaker 2 (01:29:04):
So your teammates really can make or break you. Yeah, yeah,
right way. Start.
Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
Man, he's a run through a cover to that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
Man, my god, that kid could play.
Speaker 3 (01:29:15):
Uh looking forward to that.
Speaker 2 (01:29:17):
Then you got as we keep going Iowa State South Dakota.
We saw Iowa State last week in Ireland with the
big win. We're behind Rocco backed. Uh, I like I
was saying, to what they have going.
Speaker 5 (01:29:32):
Matt Campbell does a really good job of getting the
most out of the least.
Speaker 2 (01:29:36):
When it comes to his personnel.
Speaker 5 (01:29:38):
Roco Beck is a guy who people have talked about
being a pro.
Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
Got some spunk, some feistiness to them.
Speaker 5 (01:29:44):
Uh, they always are able to Yeah, they always able
to run the football effectively. And they've had some playmakers
of late. And then defensively, John Haycock does a great job.
You know, he's one of the inventors of that three
high safety defense and they give people problems looking. It
was a big win for them last week and that
to continue to give them that confidence they need.
Speaker 3 (01:30:05):
So what do you expect from Oregon?
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Right? Like, if Penn State and Ohio State are the
top two teams, Oregon's right there, right behind them, And
I'm curious third action today, I'm curious, is that what
we're gonna see from Oregon? And you know, you lose
Dolan Gabriel, you lose Ted Johnson, you lose Jordan James, right,
(01:30:31):
so you know it's a big piece of it. But
they come back and you know what, They're gonna be interesting.
Speaker 5 (01:30:38):
Yeah, They're gonna be interesting. Landing is a really good coach.
He understands how to get his team ready to play
in you know, I expect him to be one of
those teams that we always have to talk about being
in contention.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
The Big Ten is loaded, man.
Speaker 5 (01:30:54):
People always talk about the SEC, but the Big Ten
is loaded with personnel players, They got good coaches. Yeah,
Oregon should be right at the top of that list though,
Like they're gonna be right there despite the turnover.
Speaker 2 (01:31:09):
I just see Landing continue to keep this thing humming. Yeah,
I'm curious to see Dante more and what he looks like.
You know, another kid who gets uh who gets the rains,
who's on you know, who's going to take over a
big time program and a big time environment. And he
(01:31:31):
of course was a big time recruits. I'm curious to
see what more is gonna do. Yeah, that that should
be funny.
Speaker 5 (01:31:40):
You talk about big time recruits, and that is the thing, man,
because every four or five star doesn't turn out to
play like that.
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
But yeah, I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
Also fascinated bout him, having heard so much about him.
Speaker 2 (01:31:50):
You know, it's so it's wild right like so if
you look at the top seventeens, Texas breaks in a
new quarterback, Ohio State breaks in a new quarterback, Georgia, Alabama,
Oregon all breaking in new quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (01:32:13):
Yeah, the money, the n I L the bag is
big the part to you. I mean, it's hard to
pull some of those those teams in when when the
bag is what it is, you know, just being able
to uh pay, pay for play, all those things to
rev share. It just changes the way that guys are
compensating and people are chasing the bag instead of opportunities
(01:32:36):
and dreams.
Speaker 3 (01:32:39):
Yeah, yeah, bag got big, man.
Speaker 2 (01:32:43):
I mean it's huge.
Speaker 3 (01:32:44):
That's the truth.
Speaker 2 (01:32:46):
It's wild, the whole thing, and I don't even think
people can comprehend it. It's it's it's it's wild. It's
and it's the wild West. You told to these dudes,
these coaches. So I do the Matt Rule podcast. So
we we called House Rules, so uh and our man coach,
(01:33:09):
Matt Rule and kind of living it through through with him,
you know, waiting for the portal. You know, you're exhausting
every dollar you have and you're praying somebody else doesn't
come out. What you know, it's another kid doesn't come
over and sound like I want I got it all
for I need more money.
Speaker 3 (01:33:30):
It's it's it's a different world.
Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
Yeah, it is a different world. And it's just like that.
Speaker 5 (01:33:34):
You talk about the money factor, and some coaches complained
about that on their way out that man, guys played
well for a few weeks and they want to come
back into office they want more bread or right before
we transition from the regular season to the Bowl season,
guys are up in the top talking about I need
more money to be able to participate in the Bowl.
A lot of stuff going on and it's deregulated. Need
(01:33:55):
more rules, more structure to kind of figure it out. Uh,
you need a level playing field. But the only where
you do that you have to have a collective bargaining agreement,
which means those student athletes that we've been talking about,
their students and athletes, they become employees. And that is
one thing that's kind of prevent us from making it
even better at the collegiate level.
Speaker 2 (01:34:17):
So what do you what do you where? Where do
you begin? Like if I make you the commissioner, where
do you begin? Bump, That's a tough one.
Speaker 5 (01:34:29):
I think the first thing is you got to level
the playing field, So you got to figure out who's
in and who's out in terms of they want to
really pay to play. And then you create like super
divisions where or super League where all the people that
are willing to fork over the big money with our restriction,
they all need to play in the league together because
it's unfair for the teams like a Texas to compete
(01:34:51):
with teams that don't have the resources and those things.
So it should all be even across the board. So
now we all are out apples not apples to oranges
and some of these comparisons with money expenditure in those things.
The other thing, we had to get multi year contracts
for these players. It bothers me that guys are bouncing
(01:35:12):
around too much. It bothers me that what was once
student athlete where you wanted guys to get education, they're
chasing their back. So they're leaving far shorter of the
degree completion process than others. So you've got to figure
out how to regulate some of these things with contracts,
ensuring that they're going to be at a school multiple
years and it's hearing that they're also making progress towards
(01:35:34):
being able to complete what should be a meaningful degree.
Speaker 2 (01:35:40):
And you can't have the two portals like each year, like,
you can't have that. Hey, you got to move the
one portal. It can't be in December. I know it's
supposed to line up with the second semester, but you
can't have it like right before the playoffs. It's like
(01:36:02):
free agency right before the playoffs in the NFL. The
same thing. I mean, it is bananas to think about bananas.
Speaker 5 (01:36:12):
Bananas, Yeah, it's bananas to think about.
Speaker 3 (01:36:15):
Gotta fix that.
Speaker 2 (01:36:16):
And so if you have one portal, you know, one
portal period after the season. I get it right, So
I you know, I would understand it. I like your
idea of multi year contracts and making the contracts binding
on both sides so the kid also gets paid because
some of that time, you know, some of that stuff
(01:36:37):
is hey, you know, we're gonna get you, you know, X,
Y and Z, and then all of a sudden they
only get half of it like that. There's been circumstances
like that. So it should work to protect both sides,
both the kid and the and the team.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Yeah, it should work. I mean, that's I mean, but
that's part of the deal.
Speaker 5 (01:36:56):
And that's why they have to go to the negotiating table.
The NCAA, the schools haven't operated like that, but that's
the only way that you can get a fair deal
for both sides.
Speaker 2 (01:37:06):
You have to go to the table. You have to
call it what it is. It's an employee situation, so
you have to.
Speaker 5 (01:37:10):
Pay them, and they don't want to pay them insurance
and benefits and all that other stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:37:14):
But that's a part of the deal.
Speaker 5 (01:37:16):
We talk about a billion dollar sport, multiple billions of
dollars are generated from the sport. You got to be
willing to meet the kids, the students where they are
and provide some protections so they're continued to allow this
machine to grow.
Speaker 2 (01:37:33):
Yeah, and I'm with you. I said this a long
time ago that I like to see this Super Conferences
almost turn into an AFC and an NFC. Right, So
the Big twelve and the ACC gets folded in.
Speaker 3 (01:37:47):
Let's just say it's the SEC the Big ten, right,
and then each.
Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
Of those conferences are in the divisions, and just like
the NFL, So the Big Ten is like the NFC,
and the the SEC is like the AFC, and then
you know, this is your league, and then you could
have a secondary league, which would be cool, and then
you can incorporate like European soccer does with relegation, so
(01:38:14):
you can kind of go up and down. Because you
have so many teams, so many programs, you can actually
go up and down and it will be a fun
little story.
Speaker 5 (01:38:27):
I mean, I am okay, I do believe you have
to go to Super Conferences at some point. This is
the best time to think about doing that. Getting it together,
making it happen like that is really really important. It'll
level up the playing field, it'll make it sensible from
a geographical standpoint in terms of matchups and games.
Speaker 2 (01:38:46):
All this stuff needs to do it. And then if
we're talking about creating it.
Speaker 5 (01:38:49):
The collegiate version of the NFL, yeah, you got to
have divisions within those conferences so you can set aside
which teams go to the postseason.
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
It all makes sense to me. Yeah, yeah, exactly. All right,
let's say quick to you, we'll co come back, continue
to go through the day. Next hour, we'll take a
look at the NFL Week one and we'll go through
all the games in Week one. I can't believe it's here, man,
(01:39:19):
It's the best fucking Brooks. I'm Anthony Garganam Fellas right here.
Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, Fellas, Bucky Brooks. I'm Anthony Gargano. Hey.
With the iHeartRadio app, you can stream us wherever you
happen to be. Catch us in all of our Fox
(01:39:41):
Sports Radio shows left twenty four to seven and the
new improved iHeartRadio app. To search Fox Sports Radio in
the app to stream us live all day, every day,
and be sure to select the Fox Sports Radio is
one of your presets right there in the app, so
it'll always pop up at the top of your screen. Boom,
you got it, right, my brother, Let's kind of get
(01:40:04):
through the rest of the day and then we're gonna
go through the Week one of the NFL card. All right.
So when last we left, we were talking about Florida State,
and you know what they look like, right, because it's
it's gonna be I love that game against Bamah. We
(01:40:27):
talked about Oregon. Oklahoma is in action tonight against Illinois State.
Florida's got a cupcake in Long Island. Florida's an interesting
case because I think that they've kind of retold you
got Langway quarterback. They could be pretty interesting.
Speaker 5 (01:40:45):
Yeah, you know, they're interesting because the way they finish
did a really good job of kind of closing it.
They got a young quarterback GJ. Lagway who's really dynamic
and intriguing. He's dealt with some injuries throughout the off
season and stuff, but he's supposed to be good to go.
Billy Napier has this team trending in the right direction,
and a team that was young has gotten a little.
Speaker 3 (01:41:06):
Older, a little wiser, a little more experienced.
Speaker 2 (01:41:08):
They should be much better this season. Yeah, and likewage
could be interesting. So I'm I'm with you, brother, that
tonight is is a great one. Man, this is gonna
be awesome. Now we talked about teams coming in with
inexperienced quarterbacks, Well these are two that are bringing back
(01:41:30):
both their quarterbacks. Club Nick Versus Nusmier Clemson Ree Lsu.
This is uh. This got the makings of a great
football game. Man, it should be great.
Speaker 5 (01:41:45):
The talent is on part from both teams, and LSU
is motivated and hungry. They haven't won an opening game
in a into Brian Kelly era. He knows that he's
made a big deal out of it. So we'll see
how they respond to dealing with that kind of pressure.
It's a different it's a different, different life, different.
Speaker 2 (01:42:02):
Animal when you're doing it.
Speaker 5 (01:42:03):
And then for Clemson, there's a part of me that's
rooting for Clemson just because of the anti portal stance
that Dabo Sweets has taken right, you know, and a
lot of people called them crazy for doing that, and
it's taking them a couple of years for the cycle
to produce the talent to put them back where they were.
But to me, there is something about doing a homegrown
(01:42:24):
model because you build it organically, you know, the strengths
and weaknesses of the kids, you know, the strength and
weaknesses of their personality and character as it relates.
Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
To the team.
Speaker 5 (01:42:36):
It's just a more I think it's a more dependable
approach as opposed to the fly by night I'm gonna
pay this guy, pay that guy, I pay not.
Speaker 2 (01:42:45):
You know, like that.
Speaker 5 (01:42:45):
Creates some discord in the locker room if you don't
take care of everyone.
Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
So where are we at with Clubning right? Because all
eyes you know, we listen. He's a terrific college player.
There's a lot of tall about the next level. Where
are you at with him? Like? He you know again,
he's had a ton a ton of experience. I mean
clubs it has eight starters coming back on both sides
(01:43:12):
of the ball, so they're just loaded with that.
Speaker 5 (01:43:15):
Yeah, Club Nink is interesting case because do a threat
playmaker forty three total touchdowns a year ago, athleticism out
the wazoo can make it happen. And you've seen him
mature right in front of our eyes. Dab O Sweeney's
gonna sell him and sell him hard. He's not the
generational talent that people are talking about when Trevor Lawrence
(01:43:39):
is coming out, But he certainly is good and this
team has everything around the where if he just plays
to the strength of the team, which is the defense
being able to run the football, then occasion he makes
him plays that's more than enough to get them to
the winning circle.
Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
Yeah, and you look at you look at club thing.
Now he's not blessed with the arm talent of Nusmayer
and you know, like no smart profiles to be a
beautiful quarterback like Hero. In a lot of ways, he
reminds me of Herbert where he's got that kind of arm.
Mm hmm.
Speaker 5 (01:44:12):
I mean, yeah, he's well, I would call him like Herbert.
Speaker 2 (01:44:16):
He's a gun slinger, but he's slender frame.
Speaker 5 (01:44:18):
Now he's like the thin, wispy He can whip it,
but he's not the ideal Uh, he doesn't have the
ideal dimensions that you look for at the position.
Speaker 2 (01:44:27):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (01:44:28):
He's surrounded by playmakers.
Speaker 2 (01:44:30):
Hsu does a great job developing white House.
Speaker 5 (01:44:32):
He's going to hit on some of these throws and
you just got to be able to uh manage it
because he's streaky. But man, his his streakiness comes with
a confidence that can have your team go to another level.
Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
Yeah, like like when I'm talking about Herbert, I'm talking
about his arm like this, his arm like he's got
an elite arm. And the kick, the kick could spin it.
He could make every throw. I mean all of the size.
But he's got he's just got arm talent everywhere. I mean,
I mean that's his great gift. He could move a
little bit, but his arm is plus.
Speaker 5 (01:45:08):
Yeah, I mean he does have He does have talent,
and his arm is plus. And I would say what
surpasses his arm in terms of Gray's his processing ability.
How quick he gets the ball in and out, being
able to see it, read it, rip it, let it go.
He has all of that. It's just you know, man,
it's a beauty paget. When we talk about at the
NFL level, like you want to, you want.
Speaker 2 (01:45:30):
To, you want to show that's his father too, his father,
you know, his father, who's the O c at in
New Orleans, Orleans. You know, you know he's he's a quarterback.
You know, dude, he was quarterback coach for the Eagles.
You know the kid you know he was. You could
tell he knows the kid knows could just read it,
(01:45:50):
he knows the position inside it out. That's a good
advantage having having dad be your your quarterback.
Speaker 5 (01:45:59):
Yeah, yeah, that that that certainly helps. Man, if your
dad has played a little bit, can do it, can
can understand play calls and teach you like why things work.
He can unlock him mastery early in your career. Which
is why we talked about Arch Manning. He doesn't have
the dad as a coach, but he has two uncles
and a granddad that played the position.
Speaker 2 (01:46:20):
At the high level.
Speaker 5 (01:46:21):
So so being able to tap into those resources are critical.
Speaker 2 (01:46:26):
So Michigan tonight and this is this is gonna be interesting.
I'm dying to see what they're about now. Obviously, I
think next year is their year where they come back,
they make that kind of you know, they have the
they get rekindled as far as the National Championships concerned,
as a contender, Underwood gets to start, right, so it's
(01:46:51):
he'll be the fourth freshman to start at quarterback for Michigan.
So I'm like, I'm dying to scene. You know, he's
the big tick, he was the big money kid.
Speaker 3 (01:47:05):
What do you expect from Michigan.
Speaker 5 (01:47:09):
Look, they put all this stuff to bed right in
terms of you know, the I guess the gate signal,
Gate whatever you want to call it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:18):
Sharon wore is gonna have.
Speaker 5 (01:47:19):
To pay a price again this year with a suspension.
But the quarterback that they brought over is the first legit,
high end quarterback that they've had in forever. Like he
is legit when it comes throwing, he loves it, doesn't
back down from challenging those things like he hasn't And
in listening to Sharon Moore talk, he talked about how
this kid early in the process just dads on the
(01:47:41):
days and when they were practicing the stadium, it wasn't
too big for him in terms of the magnitude of
the moment. He's gonna make some mistakes, but what you
hope is you can win and play through those mistakes
until he gets to the other side of it becomes
a really good player with a really good team.
Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
Yeah, it's fun. This time of year is great because
you just kind of you want to watch it all
and you want to kind of see certain kids. You
want to see how certain teams look on both sides
of the ball. It's fun just to kind of get
kind of get to know them because it's such an
(01:48:19):
unknown It's such an unknown thing because of the nature
of the sport and now with all the movement in
the portal to kind of get a feel for how
a team's gonna be. Like, I don't know if he
saw in Nebraska the other night. I thought Rayola looked great.
I thought he made some terrific throws. I think he
showed you that he's growing. I wish their running game
(01:48:43):
is a little bit better, but I thought that they
I thought ray All looked good. He definitely are good.
And the thing about Rao, we can.
Speaker 5 (01:48:52):
Talk about the Pat Mahomes thing, right that the clone
wanting to be number fifteen for the chiefs man, he's
followed him so much and probably looked at so many highlights.
It reminds me of the Kobe Bryant Michael Juwadden deal.
Yeah yeah, we're all of a sudden without even knowing.
Kobe takes on some of those mannerisms because he's studied
(01:49:14):
every idiosyncrasy that the guy has. That's how they feel
like it with rail Like, he has really dug deep
into the process and put himself into that Pat.
Speaker 2 (01:49:27):
Mahomes frame of mind.
Speaker 5 (01:49:28):
And when you see him, he doesn't even know that
he's doing it, because the switch is never off in
his mind. He's copied all the things that Pat Mahomes
has done.
Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
Yeah, you know what, I never understood why people give
him static for it, Like why you busted his stones
about worshiping the best quarterback in the link I It
was the same way with Kobe and Mike, Like, oh,
why he's gonna abit taate Mike because he's the best,
because he grew up loving all grew up loving players,
(01:50:01):
emulating players. Why wouldn't you emulate the best? Like, I
never understand why people criticize them for emulating Mahomes. Yeah,
I don't know. It's such a it's such.
Speaker 3 (01:50:12):
A weird bob.
Speaker 2 (01:50:13):
It's weird, dude.
Speaker 5 (01:50:14):
You want yeah, you do want to follow the best.
You want to copy the best, You want to be
the best. You want to take from the best. There's
no reason why. Like, look, man, I coach high school ball.
Like I'm listen and consume every Nick Saban, Bill Belichick podcast,
book or whatever they have because they're known as the best,
and we always want to take from the best, because
maybe some of their secret sauce we can utilize in
(01:50:37):
our own situations.
Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
Well, I don't know, you coach high school.
Speaker 5 (01:50:43):
Yeah, high school head coach John Grenada Hills Charter is
in LA, north of LA.
Speaker 2 (01:50:50):
John Elway's alma mater.
Speaker 3 (01:50:53):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:50:55):
John Elway play there. Then Ryan Brown baseball player for
the Milwaukee Brewers back in the day, and yeah he's
j yeah, yeah, yeah, that's a great one. Oh that's fantastic.
I love it. Who's your what year is your quarterback?
I got a senior in a sophomore. That'd be kind
(01:51:17):
of coming through, rotating in.
Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
And out, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:51:21):
Yeah, so there's a little situation we're working through, but
it would be.
Speaker 3 (01:51:24):
Right, nice, nice.
Speaker 2 (01:51:27):
I like it. Coach Brooks, I like it. Man, did
you see uh?
Speaker 3 (01:51:33):
I love their I love last.
Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
Weekend there was a couple of really good high school
games on on the ESPN. Oh yeah, yeah. All those teams.
Speaker 5 (01:51:41):
So those teams that you saw from California, they're all nearby,
not in the neighborhood, but very like nearby.
Speaker 2 (01:51:47):
So you play the Bosco No no, no, no, no,
no no no, no no no no.
Speaker 5 (01:51:53):
Those teams would be on part with you and Philly
like Saint Joe Prepp. Yes, they would be like more
dad like, oh, we're going to go send our team
to go play cal McCord and Marvin Harrison junior, right
or whatever like that. It would be like like that
Don Bosco in jurors, like it would be more on
part with though those are right, right, Yeah, I mean
(01:52:14):
their high school programs kind.
Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Of No, they're there. I'm pretty close to the prep
program and uh, you know there's a I mean for
some of the kids in there are just unbelieved. They're unbelievable.
And they had a great game against American Heritage. So
Dia Bell who's the number one quarterback who's going to
Texas in the in the country. And his dad is
(01:52:37):
Rajah Bell, who used to play.
Speaker 3 (01:52:38):
The Yeah, the Suns, Yeah, and the Sixers.
Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
He's roj is a good dude. I talked to him
last week before the game. He is a plier too.
They came back, they were down twenty eight nothing with
like seven minutes to go in the third quarterback and
came back and beats Saint Joe Prepp thirty one twenty eight. Yeah,
that's that's that's crazy. Yeah, it was good stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:53:00):
But you know the thing about American hairs did talk
about that used to be Passer Tan remember pas Tan
Pro Bowl?
Speaker 2 (01:53:08):
Yeah, sure, yeah, he used to be the head coach
there for years. Yeah, he's a head coach there.
Speaker 3 (01:53:14):
Oh wow, Oh that's cool.
Speaker 2 (01:53:17):
All right, we gotta take quick, TiO. We'll come back.
We'll start to look at the NFL Week one. All right,
we gotta look ahead the week one. What we'll be
watching Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday in the league. Bucky hanging
with you fellas on Fox. Welcome back Fellas by the way,
(01:53:43):
Uh Bucky and and hanging out and uh we gotta
thank Mighty Mark and Bree Bree Brianna our fine production team.
Kit do anything without them. They are the best, so
we love them. Uh, buck man, it's here. We are
a Labor Day, weekend and week one. I know we
(01:54:04):
talk a lot of college football. We went through the
entire card for today. We'll talk about Notre Dame in
Miami next hour, as well as your tar heels and
action against TCU. But let's take a look over now
in our next segment into the NFL in Week one.
So it begins Thursday night from Linked Financial Field, the
(01:54:28):
Micah Parson List Cowboys against the defending Chants. So how
do we look at this game? But I mean, I
don't know how else to look at it.
Speaker 3 (01:54:41):
But I'm gonna say, I'm gonna step aside.
Speaker 5 (01:54:44):
Now you know that I mean, I mean, I mean,
I mean, I'm sure you're there with your Kelly green
stuff on, because I saw I think Kelly green is
a color for divisional games. Looking man, I think, if
you're looking at this objectively, how can you.
Speaker 2 (01:55:00):
Good consciously say that the Cowboys are going to stack up.
Speaker 5 (01:55:02):
They lose their best defensive player, Michael Parsons, They have
question marks at running back, they have some more questions
even along the offensive line. On paper, the Eagles are
far superior. So I would expect the Eagles to kind
of walk through the Cowboys and this one.
Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
Yeah, I mean, when we're looking at the Eagles objectively,
you know, you come back with four fifths of your
O line and Tyler Steen is going to take that
other spot where Beckton was. He was going to win
the job last year. He was draft pick, he studied
under Statlet you he's he's a terrific kids. He's made
(01:55:40):
a lot of strides. So your line is basically the
same as last year. You still got Jalen aj DeVante
and Sequon and you keep got it, which was big
because he's really good as a blocker off the seal
on the edge. I mean, it's the same offense. I
don't know how. I don't know how they drop off.
Speaker 5 (01:56:03):
Look, I don't think I don't think they do drop off.
I think there continue to be a team that is
tough and physical. They continue to win and own the
line of scrimmage because that's that's what they do.
Speaker 3 (01:56:15):
Like, that's how they get down.
Speaker 5 (01:56:17):
They are a hard nose, crizzal football team and they're
gonna make it very difficult for you to deal with
them in the trenches. And then on the outside, whether
it's offense or defense, they have problems. It's a problem
dealing with aj Brown and DeVonta Smith. God, it is
someone that can control the middle of the field. And
last but not least, you got to deal with Saquan, Right,
that's the thing, Right, you got to do all those
(01:56:39):
things and still deal with Saquan. They have a perfect
video game squad because they don't have a glaring weakness,
particularly on offense.
Speaker 2 (01:56:48):
What was wild about last year was the big play
run game like we've seen backs have, you know, break
one to the house and there's a high light and
even the great ones like Barry Sanders or Sweetness, you
know they would you'd have a couple of year, but
(01:57:09):
Sekwan had seven of them, longer than forty or longer
to the house, like he was Aaron Judge. Hit the
home runs on a regular basis, Like you never saw
a big play run game like the Eagles had last year. Yeah, monster,
just a monster in the middle. When it comes to
(01:57:30):
the matchup.
Speaker 5 (01:57:32):
What he was able to do, how he's able to
do it, How they were able to control the line
of scrimmage, how they were able to be you know,
physical but fun in terms of like running the ball
by having like a fun feel to them. It's a
well constructed offense. But more importantly, they're personnel. That's just man.
Speaker 2 (01:57:51):
It's it's such that it's gonna give you problems. Yeah,
you know, the one of the issues you have defensively.
And I talked at length with Steve Spagnolo about this
about them, because you got to figure out what you
got and Spags is one of the best dcs out there,
and it was like, all right, well, we're gonna try
to take away the run. We'll try to take away
(01:58:12):
Barkley and load up the box and you know, I
mean they did a good job, but you obviously make
yourself vulnerable downfield. And one of Jalen's best throws is
outside the numbers man, He'll drop it into the bucket
to AJ, as saw a number of times last year. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:58:33):
I mean you talked about good player in aj just
being able to make those plays time and time again.
The hands that he that he that he plays with,
and you know, he was a guy who was a
draftable baseball player. I mean he has great handoue coordination
and it shows up when he comes down with those
fifty to fifty boss Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
Yeah, Cowboys, what do you expect? We were Johnny kind
of talking about it. I mean, you know, I think
we both like the Eagles in Washington did his one two.
I like the Giants. I like the Giants.
Speaker 5 (01:59:04):
Yeah, I take the Giants. I take the Giants at three.
I'm i'm I'm. My thing with the Giants is how
long before the Jackson dart experiment begins? Yeah, Russell Wilson
has to me on a short leash. It'll be interesting
to see, Like from the g men's perspective, do they
lean into the running game, Are they more pass centric regardless,
they're good on defense.
Speaker 3 (01:59:25):
And that gives them a chance to get back.
Speaker 2 (01:59:27):
Yeah, I'm with you. I liked I would start at
the dark thing sooner than later. He showed a lot
of promises. The whole idea this year is to try
to get him to be able to play. Yeah, you
wanna happen right away. So all right, we've got a
big hour coming up. Don't go everywhere, Fellas on.
Speaker 5 (01:59:44):
Fox listening to sports.
Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
Good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning, Happy, happy
Labor Day weekend, and a happy Fox Football Saturday. Finally
here the biggest day of the year to kick it
all off, Texas, Ohio's Day, Clemson LSU, the big football
(02:00:10):
weekend leading into Thursday night's NFL opener Friday night in Brazil.
It's all here, It's all upon us. Bucky Brooks, Anthony Gargotta,
Where the fellas right here? On Fox Sports Radio, don't forget.
For over forty years, tire rack has been helping customers
find the right tires for how, what, where they drive,
(02:00:30):
ship fast and free back by free road hazard protection,
convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Can't beat it.
Tire rack dot Com the way tire buying should be.
And now here's the tire rack play of the day.
Last night, Georgia Tech and Haynes King.
Speaker 6 (02:00:53):
King claps, snaps, thanks, the toss runs right, puts a
hand in the back of his life breakthrough.
Speaker 5 (02:01:00):
He's gone fifteen ten fine touchdown has King.
Speaker 2 (02:01:06):
Seven to go there. It was the game winning touchdown
that lives Georgia Tech over Colorado. Courtesy is six 't
eighty the fan in Atlanta. As Georgia Tech is able
to beat Prime. Coach Prime last night, it was some
good football, some good stuff.
Speaker 5 (02:01:27):
Buck, It wasn't really I mean, it was a really
good game and Georgia Tech having three turnovers in the
first quarter. Uh, it's uncommon to be able to overcome
that and to continue to win, but they were able
to do it.
Speaker 2 (02:01:41):
Hans King gets a stud They ran for over three
hundred yards. They pounded that.
Speaker 5 (02:01:46):
I mean, they just pounded the ball relentlessly at Colorado
and they couldn't have an answer for it. I mean,
a very dynamic running game, but one that was very
productive and allowed them to control the game when they
needed it.
Speaker 2 (02:01:58):
Yeah. Yeah, we also Auburn last night looked pretty good.
Put up thirty eight. Their defense is good, they're sneaky. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:02:10):
I mean, like, here's the thing with Hugh Freeze, Like, yeah,
Hugh Freeze is under fire. He has to get it going,
and they're leaning into this running game. They were able
to get some returns, they were able to get some
big plays. But beating a Baylor team that people expect
to be fairly good and they were able to get
that win on the road, that's a good.
Speaker 3 (02:02:29):
One for Hugh Freeze.
Speaker 2 (02:02:31):
Yeah. Yeah, I think they're pretty good. I think they
gotta think you're gonna be sneaky this year. All right,
let's take a look and kind of go through the week.
We talked about Eagles and Cowboys the opener Thursday to
open the twenty twenty five NFL season on NBC and
(02:02:51):
from Lincoln Financial Field. So it's gonna be Eagles and Cowboys. Obviously,
we're talking at length today about the Michael Parsons trade
that means for the Packers and the Cowboys. Then on Friday,
it's back to Brazil the Sapolo Game this year Kansas
(02:03:12):
City and the Chargers. So it's Chiefs Chargers Friday night
on YouTube TV from Brazil. Obviously, the racy Rice suspension
got longer. Yeah, how do you feel about Kansas City
(02:03:33):
coming back after losing last year in the three peat? Bit?
Speaker 5 (02:03:41):
Look, I expect them to still be a very formidable foe.
Some of the pressures offered them after losing the three peat,
but they're good enough and all that experience, all that
pedigree makes them a very very difficult out. I mean,
you say what you want to, but they've been to
the last five Super Bowl I mean, they know how
to go to the super Bowl, know how to win
Super Bowls. They make it very challenging on the opponents
(02:04:04):
in the AFC. Buffalo Bill's are great, but when they
see Kansas City, they tend to get spooked. To Baltimore Ravens,
you can say the same. I don't know if there's
a team that we can say, without question is better
than the Chiefs right now, they have to start at
the top of the AFC because they've dominated that conference.
Speaker 2 (02:04:20):
Yeah, I mean I like Buffalo a ton, I like Baltimore,
like you said, but you know, you're still the champs,
the fed champs of the ABC at least, so Andy
nobody better. He's best coach in the league and Spags
the two of them know how to get it done. Mahomes.
(02:04:40):
You know that's wider Kansas City, right, that's wider the Chiefs.
If not the Chiefs in the AFC West, then who
do the Chargers make the leap? Are they capable of
year two with hardball making the lead? They are? But
(02:05:05):
here's what it hinges on.
Speaker 5 (02:05:07):
It hinges on their ability in the passing game to
be efficient enough to make enough exposive plays to prevent
people from loading up on the run. The run game
is gonna be terrific. Naja Harris is unfortunate. Off field
injury created a path for Amaron Hampton to be the
lead back. Amarion Hampton probably should seize that role and
be their lead back. As they're running the football, they
(02:05:29):
create these big play opportunities.
Speaker 2 (02:05:30):
And you have to deal with a very balanced offense.
Speaker 5 (02:05:33):
And then defensively, Jesse Mender has put together a solid defense,
a great plan that matches their personnel, which is why
they're so tough to deal with.
Speaker 2 (02:05:46):
So it's funny you mentioned all about the offense. Here's
the deal, McConkie. Does Herbert have enough weapons in the
past game last year was all McConkie. Now you got
Keenan Allen right, he's back healthy. Quentin Johnson still can't
(02:06:07):
catch the football man, I mean you know, I mean
he looks the part old thing. You gotta catch it, baby,
you gotta catch it. And then Disley your tight end.
I still think they're a little shortened playmakers. I mean, look, they.
Speaker 5 (02:06:25):
Are short, right, like they're They're definitely short in terms
of like the playmaking factor and some of the stuff
that you want to see from them.
Speaker 2 (02:06:34):
But they can control it.
Speaker 5 (02:06:36):
And as long as they're good on defense, like Jesse
Minner is going to have them, they can give people
problems like they're a headache.
Speaker 3 (02:06:42):
They're a team that is tough to deal with.
Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
Listen to well, coach, I'm a hardball guy. The only
thing is, like, again, I think you have a supreme talent.
I don't know what it is why Herbert is so polarizing,
but people I just made a comment of Tots talking
to Baldy about Herbert. We're about talking with Herbert, right,
(02:07:05):
and people start they hate him, and I don't know why,
but well, he's a joke. I'm not thinking to myself,
you had the worst coach in the world in Brandon Staley,
So you have Harbor for one year, they play well,
but you really gonna have one receiver like until he
has multiple weapons. I mean, it's not fair to really judge.
Speaker 5 (02:07:29):
Him, Yes and no, because he's already been paid and
he's already first five years thrown for more passing yards.
Speaker 3 (02:07:39):
Anymore in NFL history.
Speaker 5 (02:07:41):
Uh, you can judge him, but we tend not to
judge him on the same thing. We kind of give
him more leeway when it comes to their failures.
Speaker 2 (02:07:49):
He hasn't really fixed, so he gets roasted. They don't
roast him like they could. They don't. They don't. They
don't make him.
Speaker 5 (02:07:59):
Bar huge chicken like they would do like Lamar or
some of the other performers.
Speaker 2 (02:08:05):
That you shouldn't. Lamar should never get roight.
Speaker 5 (02:08:08):
Nah, they roast him like they should though, like he
hasn't played great in the playoffs until this season was
the first time that he played well in the postseason.
Justin Herbert has not played well in the postseason. So
that's why they should like hit him with hit him
a little fun.
Speaker 2 (02:08:21):
Yeah. But but but where like Molly point is, when
did he have a chance you had blended Staley's your coach.
Speaker 5 (02:08:29):
Yeah, I mean yeah, okay, yeah, the coaching.
Speaker 3 (02:08:33):
Yeah, but now you got Now you got a harbord,
like no one cares.
Speaker 5 (02:08:35):
Now you're over here, comic composed as a Philly guy.
Speaker 2 (02:08:40):
And I know what happens to Philly.
Speaker 5 (02:08:42):
People win, they win and when they lose, and so
right now you're serene and very zen full of meditation.
Yeah but yeah, nah, bro, like you know that that
performance would not work if it was Philadelphia we were
talking about and justin Herbert and we don't have playoff
(02:09:03):
success and we have four interceptions in a playoff game.
The last one that we remember, y'all would be because
he doesn't throw.
Speaker 3 (02:09:14):
That's why they run it.
Speaker 2 (02:09:17):
All right, when he has to throw, you load up
the box. What's he do down the field? A j
big plays and he and hurts is also a big
part of that rug game.
Speaker 5 (02:09:29):
I mean, he's a huge part of it. And that's
why we can appreciate him as a quarterback. Gather we
differently because oh wait a minute, we're not going to
get into this conversation.
Speaker 2 (02:09:38):
Do we appreciate to me? Because I think he's underappreciated.
Speaker 5 (02:09:42):
Oh my god, what we're trying to make him like? Okay,
So no, no, No, here's a conversation.
Speaker 2 (02:09:50):
Winter guy. Okay, Winter guy. I get that.
Speaker 5 (02:09:53):
So the conversation gets a little heated when we start
talking about either tears or we start talking about top five,
top ten, top five.
Speaker 2 (02:10:03):
Can't make him in the top five, top ten.
Speaker 3 (02:10:04):
He's in top ten for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:10:06):
Top five.
Speaker 5 (02:10:07):
Coming right off the board is the mount Rushmore in
the NFL.
Speaker 2 (02:10:11):
Right now, I have.
Speaker 5 (02:10:12):
Maholmess, Josh Allen Lamar, Jaston, Joe Burrow. Then at five,
then at five the thumb, the thumb to me, I
put Jayden Daniels in that category. Other people arguing other
guys there, Yeah, other people beat there.
Speaker 2 (02:10:28):
So I would argue that I just take Onmbridge to
the hurts, not not this, not that, Like why why
do you got to put him in the in the
tier elite? All that nonsense anyway, when all the dude
does is win. He's a winning quarterback. He plays the
position like a great point guard. Right. You need me
(02:10:51):
to go get a first down and third and five.
I may take them to my legs. You need me
to go to my to aj down the field. You
need me to go and give the rock to Barkley,
like I'll run it like he runs the offense like
a great point guard, and that is okay. I'm telling you.
Speaker 5 (02:11:11):
The only reason that it got twisted with him is
because the analytics community and people talked about QB wins
are on a stat.
Speaker 2 (02:11:21):
Right, and that that is one.
Speaker 5 (02:11:23):
It's a laughable thing because the job of the quarterback
is to guide the team to the winner cycle doing
whatever it is. It's very much like an MLB pitcher.
So if he gets the ball, then they win. He
should get credit for it. And so that's why if
you take it like that and you view quarterbacks without
wins being a factor, it's hard to say because the
(02:11:43):
numbers will never satisfy the guys that are box score stats.
You know, twenty eight hundred yards, three thousand yards passing,
whatever it is, that's not going to do it. People
want to see four thousand, forty five hundred yards, fifty
touchdowns and et cetera. And that's not where we're at
this day and age. Yeah, defenses aren't allowing offenses to
(02:12:04):
move up and down the field like that.
Speaker 2 (02:12:06):
Yeah, I just point to the dude's record. That's all
I point to. I just go, yeah, I got I
like my quarterback because my quarterback wins. I mean, that's
that's that's a good thing. There's there's a place in
a place I take the stat style I and you know,
(02:12:30):
there's no reason why because there's a lot of talk about, well,
he's a passenger on this team. Whatever. Game manager. First
of all, game manager should that never have been a
bad a bad word or a bad term, because if
you manage the game correctly, you're gonna win. And manage
a game is like a point guard, like I gotta
(02:12:52):
do what I need to do. Hey, there may be
games and there was a game last year against the
Steelers when they were playing press and they were loading
the box up and he played and he played well.
He threw for whatever it was to eighty two seventy
a couple of touchdowns, didn't turn it over. You know
(02:13:14):
that that's how you play the position, man. I mean,
that's if everybody's behold her out or Lamar, you know,
or Daniels No.
Speaker 5 (02:13:24):
I mean that's I mean, you're you're right about playing
the position, and you gotta do what you gotta do
to make.
Speaker 3 (02:13:30):
Sure that.
Speaker 5 (02:13:32):
You get the dub because that's ultimately what's most important.
Speaker 2 (02:13:37):
All Right, Friday night was Chief Chargers. Then Sunday early
games Cardinals and Saints. The Cardinals are gonna be interesting.
I'm obviously the Saints are are are going to attack
and they're gonna be one of the worst teams in
the league. But Arizona, how good can it in Arizona?
(02:13:58):
Can Arizona challenge Rams? Are the Niners in the West.
Speaker 5 (02:14:05):
You know, It's funny because I feel like they're they're
the darling right now, like everyone is trying to make
them be that team. Yeah, I mean they can challenge them.
They can. They can be a team that is is
in the mix. But I believe the Rams are a
super Bowl team. The Rams are built the right way.
They're balanced on offense. Karen Williams. Davante Adams has seemingly
(02:14:28):
found the the founder of youth when I went and
watched him go against the Cowboys enjoy practices. He and
pookin the cool are problem. It's hard to deal with
either one of them that I done double team both. Yeah,
they're I mean, they're they're rock solid all the way around.
Speaker 2 (02:14:46):
Then you got Miami and the Colts. I mean the Colts,
Oh my god, can you have misplayed? Uh uh? Players?
Development more than the Colts misplay Anthony Richardson, and now
you're Angel Jones is your starter?
Speaker 5 (02:15:06):
Well before you were stuck with Anthony Richardson, who's not
a good quarterback.
Speaker 2 (02:15:10):
He's not good. He's not good like you was good.
But you should never have started right away.
Speaker 3 (02:15:21):
Never.
Speaker 2 (02:15:22):
He should never been drafted where he was drafted here.
But you don't. You don't start a kid like that,
who who was spotty in college like we saw the
college like he had flashes.
Speaker 3 (02:15:35):
That's the ultimate project.
Speaker 2 (02:15:39):
Yeah, I mean it is.
Speaker 3 (02:15:40):
It is the ultimate pro like starting mill Row.
Speaker 2 (02:15:42):
Now he can't like you could never start jaming Milroe
right now.
Speaker 5 (02:15:47):
I mean no, but I would say that. And mil
Roe is a better player than Richardson. Richardson is the
best that ever was in terms of yeah, I agree,
he was oft injured high school, college, now and the
pros and the pros he's only played seventeen or thirty
four potential starts when he has played.
Speaker 2 (02:16:06):
All of his numbers, ranked.
Speaker 5 (02:16:07):
Dead last in terms of completion rate passer rating.
Speaker 2 (02:16:12):
All of that I like.
Speaker 5 (02:16:14):
And then when he runs, she's like the difference between
Anthony Richardson running and Jalen Milroe there's a natural feel
that you have to have right that. Yeah, the situational
awareness understanding where people are coming from.
Speaker 3 (02:16:28):
All this suffing.
Speaker 5 (02:16:29):
Anthony Richardson takes full on car wrecks, like he doesn't
feel or see the people coming and when they hit him,
it is literally like a car crash. And it's too
hard to play in this league if you're always taking
direct shots.
Speaker 2 (02:16:47):
No, that's it's so right. But my only point with
Richardson is he should never have played early like they
they why they did this whole thing, like are you crazy?
And then they had a little weird success only because
they were able to run the ball. The way it was,
it was it stupid, It was just bad. It was mismanagement,
(02:17:08):
and it cost you any chance that you could have
developed them correctly. And now you're stuck and they're gonna
be you know, they're gonna be. Daniel Jones saw that.
I saw that story a bunch of times.
Speaker 3 (02:17:23):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean it's it's a tough one.
Speaker 2 (02:17:27):
It ain't great for sure. Now Steelers Jets. Rogers goes
back there, what do you what do you see there?
Speaker 5 (02:17:39):
You know it's funny, man, because I am not in
Aaron Rodgers guy. But I'm gonna tell you, I'm all
in on the Stellers and what they're doing. Uh And
talking to Mike Tomlin during the preseason, talked about getting
the edge and the swag back like that the Steelers
have always been, you know, a little edgy, a little
at the line, you know what it was when the
Steelers were coming to town. Where then they bring Jayden Ramsey,
(02:18:02):
Darius Slay is already there. They have some guys who
are feisty and ultra competitive. The young draft feeds off that,
so they're playing better then Aaron Rodgers. What he does
is he just adds an element of calm and confidence
that the team needed in a way that is different
than Russell Wilson. When I talked to their coach and
they're like, man, it's different having a Hall of Fame
(02:18:23):
quarterback in the building and this is why this is,
this is why I was like, wait a minute, Russell
Wilson was just in the building. So to me, it
was them saying we lacked a little pop in the
quarterback room last year. So yeah, I'm excited to see
what they believe is the difference maker in Aaron.
Speaker 2 (02:18:44):
Rodgers yeah, yeah, that should be fascinating. See if he's
got anything left. All right, let's take it quick to
you know, we're gonna come back. We're gonna look at
the weekend, today's game, and then the upcoming NFL card.
From a betting standpoint with our man the Brain, they'll
give us some plays where the fellas Bucky Brooks Anthony
(02:19:05):
Gargano right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (02:19:21):
All right, welcome back, Good morning everybody, Happy Labor Day,
Happy opening Saturday of our college football season. Doesn't get
any better than what we're about to see. Amazing stuff.
All right, Let's take a look at the weekend and
in this coming week with our man the Brain. We
(02:19:45):
are the fellas, Bucky Brooks, Anthony Garganto, the Brain. Brad Feinberg,
our betting expert, joins us brain. Sello to Bucky, what's up?
Speaker 4 (02:19:57):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (02:19:58):
I'm good? What's going on? Brain?
Speaker 4 (02:20:01):
Looking forward to hopefully an amazing start at the college
football season, with like so many great games this weekend last.
Speaker 2 (02:20:07):
Dude, let's go, what do we got, man, let's go.
That's a I can't wait for this, man.
Speaker 3 (02:20:15):
I don't even need to take.
Speaker 2 (02:20:16):
In that today.
Speaker 4 (02:20:17):
Yeah no, I mean I think this is anthony. This
is right up there is the most exciting college football
opening weekend. I can recall. I don't remember this many
premiere games to open up a season. I can recall obviously,
Ohio State, Texas, LSU, Clemson, Notre Dame, Miami. It's just
to have three games like that. They're all a list
(02:20:39):
to openers, right, and you get three of Mike. I
can't wait.
Speaker 2 (02:20:43):
So let's why you dissect kind of what you like
in the big games, kind of go through it for
Bucky and I and you got to.
Speaker 3 (02:20:52):
We'll hit you a couple of questions and then we'll
move on to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (02:20:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:20:56):
Well, look, I'll start off with the Ohio State game. Guys. Look,
you know, to me, this game's like talk. Look he's
obviously Ohio State has the home field, this game is around,
we're looking right round Eickham right now my favorite. But
here I lean under more than anything else. Guys. I
think both defenses will hot success. But which quarterback. Do
(02:21:18):
I trust more them? And I'm going to have to
go with the Texas side. I think this game will
be extremely tight, extremely close, more or low scoring than
maybe people think. I think Texas which is out a
really close one. Guys, don't like to side and like
more the under in the game because I just I
think especially first game of the year, and I think
(02:21:41):
Ohio State offensively against Texas's defense. Don't think we have
a ton of success in Ohio States. I do think
we'll be able to at least somewhat contain Manning and
the Texas offense. Again, I like the under here. That's
my favorite player in this particular game.
Speaker 2 (02:21:55):
All Right, you want to go, you want to keep going,
Let's go to Clemson.
Speaker 4 (02:22:02):
Shoot, you know, these are two teams I like. Happen
to like both teams guys this year Clemson though, I
just like of the two. Such an important game for
both coaching staffs. Especially Look, I mean, Brian Kelly has
been getting so much uh guff for losing his last
I think they've lost five strade games l SHU. I
think Kelly is Alstoll five of them. But LSU has
lost five straight games to start the year. Obviously you
(02:22:27):
arguably you get the argument. These are could be the
two best quarterbacks in college football the year wouldn't be impossible.
I think it's I trust Clemson's defense a lot more
and I trust LSU's defense. I think Clemson's defense is
truly elite, guys, truly elite. I do think Clemson wins
this one lines up before, though, and even some four
(02:22:48):
and a half. So yeah, anxious to lay that again.
I'd also think this game is going to go under
as well, but I lean Clemson, lean under. I think
Clemson they might pick to the national championship this year,
so I win the national championship. I think we'll find
a way to win this game.
Speaker 2 (02:23:06):
Wow, braids, all about all about?
Speaker 5 (02:23:11):
I mean, brains is all in and right for you.
So I told you that defense is loaded with first
round is. But I got to ask random question, what's
the sleeper game that should get more action that maybe
the betting plubc isn't on.
Speaker 4 (02:23:25):
Well you know it's funny, Well, it was probably the game.
It's funny that I thought, Anthony mean I talked to you
about yesterday was whenever it was playing. I thought the
Auburn game against Baylor was the game that I was
really looking forward to watching, uh and actually did enjoy
watching that game that was yesterday. Though in terms of today,
h god, what is the sleeper game that I think
(02:23:47):
is good for people to watch? I would probably, well,
you know, it's interesting for me. I'm just curious. But
this is a game I think people do have interested
But I am curious to see how Belichick does with
North Carolina. Don't think time talent this year, really don't.
(02:24:08):
But to me, again, I'm extremely interested to see again.
I I think See You is definitely a good solid team.
I'm curious to see how North Carolina and Belut there
doing his first game and it's you know, coaching in
a major Division one program.
Speaker 2 (02:24:24):
To me that well, real quick, Brad, you're talking to
a tarhill. You're talking at Buckie's guitar hill.
Speaker 4 (02:24:29):
Oh okay, yeah, well look again again I look at
North Carolina. This is going to be very interesting to
me because again I thought it's interesting. Though I thought
Carolina would get more people like players would want to
play for Belichick, didn't seem like what that necessarily happened. So
you know, I'm interested to see how they do and
(02:24:49):
how he does with you know, the preparations at all
year to get this team ready against the team that
I think is actually a little underrated to TCU, that
would be the game. To me, that's not a quote
unquote you know elite match up with two top ranked teams.
I guess I would have the most interesting guest.
Speaker 3 (02:25:03):
Dude. I love the Irish loves Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (02:25:08):
Yeah, I mean again, Look, CJ. Car I think is
supposed to be pretty good from everything I'm hearing Cartson
beach Man. That's just a guy that he'd be going
into last year. He was a Heisman Trophy candidate. He
was a guy people were talking. But if you remember Anthony,
he was talking to this guy going first in the draft.
(02:25:28):
He was to me incredibly disappointing all year. I love
Notre Dame's defense. I think Notre Dame is absolutely live
mariteme live to potentially win the national championship again, depending
on how good Car is. Unfortunately, look, the line's up
mostly at three at most places. You had all arnam
(02:25:51):
in the world to get Notre Dame less than three
and lay it. So I think still one or two
two when he hands out there. Definitely on the noteme side,
but god, it's tough to play the game ring three
when you could lad less than three up until like today.
Basically also lean under in this one as well, because
I don't think Miami is going to do much offensively.
Speaker 2 (02:26:09):
Yeah, not against that Irish defense.
Speaker 3 (02:26:12):
Buck, we say we're to going to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (02:26:15):
Yeah, let's go to the league. Let's do it all
right Thursday night. Can you name the score, because I'll
name it. The Eagles nade that score, Buck, Man, it's
so crazy.
Speaker 4 (02:26:32):
Well, any the Cowboys made this trade to improve their
team for twenty twenty five. That's what Jersey said, so
I mean it doesn't lie. But anyway, yeah, I mean
that's just crazy that what Dallas did. But uh yeah,
I mean in the Eagles game against Dallas seven or last,
I'm all in on the Eagles. I think I like
(02:26:53):
the Eagles even with Michael Parsons. I think the Eagles
from a power and perspective, probably might top rated team
going into the year. Right with Davenose two, I have
neck and neck Dallas to me man horrible running game,
below average defense, obviously, have two really good receivers. I
(02:27:13):
like the Eagles secondary. Eagles easy called for me love
Eagles and teasers, but I also again like Eagles laying
seven less. I thought this line should definitely be at
least seven and a half out of seven and a
half out there. They could still find some sevens.
Speaker 3 (02:27:26):
How about the I'm sorry Buck, go ahead, buddy.
Speaker 2 (02:27:29):
No no, no Chiefs in Charges we were going the same way. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:27:34):
I mean this is interesting here because Chargers team I
was really really high going into the season. They lose
their stout offensive lineman Slater, who they gave ten zillion
dollars to, and then the next day unfortunately he cherishes
his ACR or whatever it was, which was just obviously work.
This line sitting at three now to me was definitely
(02:27:58):
on the Kansas side, still lean Kansasy, but I was
expecting Racie Rice. I bet Kansas City. I was expecting
Racie Rice to play Week one. He took a sixth
game suspension, which I do think is a real issue.
I this game will be close again. I get the
fine should between three and three and a half. I
thought Rice was going to play for Kansas City, which
(02:28:19):
I definitely think downgrades Cannisy for this week. Uh lean
Kansas City, but not affect for me at this point, how.
Speaker 2 (02:28:26):
About how about Sundays so great games early Giants, Washington, Steelers, Jets.
There's a couple of really good early ones and then
and then there's there's a jewel at four twenty five
and another jewel at night. But hit this with the
early games on Sunday. Maybe some of the games you like.
Speaker 4 (02:28:49):
Yeah, I'll start off with the Giants game against Washington.
You know if they told you when we were on
the JEFF a few weeks ago, I felt like the Giants,
we'll see how it plays out. Have the lowest over
under in the NFL, them, the Saints, Cleveland. Those three
(02:29:09):
teams are tied expected to be the worst team NFL.
I don't see it. Actually think that they are going
to be a very respectable team. I think it wouldn't
shock me because they have the best defense in the NFL.
Would not shock me. I think they already have the
best defensive line in the NFL. I like the running
game very much like the receivers. I don't think this
(02:29:33):
is an awful team. I don't understand. I think I
did say both for Lazy Saw. They were four and
thirteen last year, and assume they're gonna stick again this year.
I don't see it like that. I bet Giants pretty
big plus six and a half, and I also been
under forty six, and I think it's look at forty six.
I love the Giants defense, I really do. I don't
think Washington is going to score a zillion points. I
(02:29:54):
did this last year, and I think the Giants win
this one outright, and we call it twenty seventeen Giants. Wow,
six and a half points?
Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
What you got the Giants out right? Bucking Brad's got
the Giants. That's very underrated.
Speaker 4 (02:30:11):
I really really do. I think that they're going to
be a problem for teams all year and again. To
be projected with the worst team in the NFL, I
won't see it.
Speaker 5 (02:30:21):
Man, look at that. Look at that? I mean I
was looking at big lines. In The big line that
I'm looking at is the unknown. We have the Arizona
Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans Saints have
elected to Star of Spencer Rattler. Can I make a
little change going with the Saints?
Speaker 4 (02:30:38):
Yeah? I mean the Saints. To me, that's the team
guys that I think actually will be the worst team
in the NFL in my opinion. Now, I think that
thinks they're going to really struggle. So this morning, I
see if anywhere's lowest five, a half of high six
and a half open to round fours going any from anyone?
(02:31:02):
You mean for me Arizona not even I'm personally going
to bet because I don't really trust Arizona enough. I mean,
my mach is to lay close to a touchdown on
the road with them, but I cannot back the same.
That would be Arizona pass for me.
Speaker 2 (02:31:15):
All right, why you hit us with your action? Who
you like today? I mean, I'm sure we missed games
that you like in college the NFL next week, and
I'm sure you always have a baseball one or two.
Speaker 4 (02:31:30):
Yeah, I'll give your college one. I like us. I
most Alabama this year. I think Alabama as another team
has a chance to and I like, again I trust
Alabama's coaching. Yeah, and you can still lay less than
two touchdowns there against Florida State. And obviously Florida State
is not going to be god awful, but they were
(02:31:52):
last year. I'm not expecting them to be like just
the worst team in the league. I'm really not. But
I do think that I liked Alabama there again, you
could still still some thirteen and the hands out there, guys,
And to me, I think that's the game Alabama. My
grating said that closer to seventeen and a half. I
think my think Alabama is going to is going to
(02:32:14):
get home there. And like to me, I still think
even though that line opened the eighth or eight and
a half was one of the two guys, I still
actually think there's value.
Speaker 2 (02:32:25):
Hey, real quick, because we're up against it and some
other games you like, yeah, well real I'd.
Speaker 4 (02:32:29):
Just say it's really like a real quick. I like
Automo Oiles, you could lay like around the hour, fifteen
Trevor Rodgers, like fifteen straight starts to pitch like a
Saudi young caliber players still not getting the respect in
the betting community. Despite that, that would be one that
I would probably be my favorite baseball bet of the day, guys.
And yeah, I mean that would probably you know. Those
(02:32:51):
are those are some of the has that I think
are going to be good. And then an NFL real quick,
I think the Cold Dolphins, but again that's we could
talk about that later. And I do like the Jeffs
against the Steelers. I thought that line should be closer
to two not three.
Speaker 2 (02:33:04):
Oh wow, you have to chetch okay? All right? Cool?
Speaker 3 (02:33:07):
Uh hey Brook Lions Packers, which is.
Speaker 4 (02:33:10):
A well, what's funny it wroke that line moved from
one and a half to two and a half. Man what,
it's a tough team. I mean, I'm not going to
play it. I think it's the right number. But I
am very bullsh now on the Packers. Uh. I think
that move was an incredible move for their franchise. If
(02:33:30):
Love can get back to its forms and two years ago,
would not surprise me if they competed against teams like
Philadelphia to go to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (02:33:37):
Yeah game. They got Ravens, Steelers, Raven's Bills.
Speaker 4 (02:33:43):
I just think the Ravens are bearing the bills. I
do to me, Ravens easy lean for me. I think
the Ravens are the better team, and I do think
the Ravens will. Uh, the Ravens are gonna win. I
think the Ravens is just better than the Bills.
Speaker 2 (02:33:54):
I like it, all right, all right, listen, great stuff, brain,
We're gonna take it quick. T will come right back.

an appetizer last weekend Week zero and then Thursday day

big one today. What are your you know you got
one tomorrow. So in between your production meetings today, what
do you h what are you looking at? Like? What?
(02:35:15):
What's what? What's tomorrow's headline say about today's big matchups?
Don't mess with Texas.
Speaker 5 (02:35:22):
That's what this is Texas, don't mess with Texas. They
already printed up because so much attention is gonna be
on arch Manning. And if arch Manning plays at a
B plus a minus level, Texas is gonna win. And
if they win, people are just gonna start the hype machine,
the heismotrophy campaign, give them the national title. So, because
(02:35:42):
I believe they're gonna win, in the shoe, don't mess
with Texas is gonna be the headline.
Speaker 2 (02:35:47):
I love it. I ride all right, all right, because
you know Mick McConaughey will be there. My boy, he'll
be he'll be ripping up. Man. It's man, that's gonna
be Uh, It's good, that's awesome. I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (02:36:02):
Cannot wait for that one.
Speaker 2 (02:36:04):
I'll say Alabama like, don't sleep on Baba. Then I
think you'll see a big game out of Ty Simpson,
and I think Bama crushes Florida State today and I
think we'll all kind of wake up to know that, well,
Batman's not gone, even though saving it.
Speaker 5 (02:36:22):
Yeah, I mean, this is big for Kenn the Boor.
There's a feel that they've lost some of the the
mojo that made Bama special, right, some of the discipline,
some of the attention to detail, some of those things
that are hallmarks of a Nick Sabing program.
Speaker 2 (02:36:37):
Then it was Lucy Goosey last year.
Speaker 5 (02:36:41):
Maybe they tighten it up and they get back on track,
because there's no reason why Bama shouldn't be in the conversation.
Speaker 2 (02:36:45):
So then LSU Clemson sounds like you're in the brain.
Are all about Clemson, You're all about the Orange. I mean, yeah,
I have Clemson in this one.
Speaker 5 (02:36:55):
I don't know if the Orange can go the distance,
but yeah, Clemson to me is a better team. I
just don't want to see Brian Kelly blow a gasket.
I'm just hoping for his sake that he doesn't blow
a gasket when it when it may.
Speaker 3 (02:37:06):
Not go well, so hopefully he can hang in there.
Speaker 2 (02:37:09):
I don't want to see my man go down.
Speaker 3 (02:37:11):
All right, tomorrow there's there's a triple header.
Speaker 2 (02:37:14):
We got your game. We got votech South Carolina. I
love Sellers. I think Sellers is going to have a
really big year.
Speaker 5 (02:37:24):
I'm with you on that. I think he is going
to have a huge year. He's a major player. He
has some of the stuff that you look for, not
only just in terms of a pro prospect, but in
terms of a guy that can lead a team out
of the darkness, he has that size, big time arm talent,
still getting better as a pastor, but his running ability
is legitimate, shows up on tape.
Speaker 2 (02:37:45):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love him. You know, we talked
a lot about the next level, and you know we
talked about Aler and club Nick no smire, but Sellers Man,
Sellers could be better at all in the NFL. And
then Notre Dame. He's special. Yeah, And then and then
tomorrow night, Notre Dame, Miami Dude, Notre Dame. Miabi.
Speaker 3 (02:38:09):
I love the irish of this game.
Speaker 5 (02:38:11):
I mean, the thing about Notre Dame is just how
Marcus Freeman has made them into it.
Speaker 2 (02:38:16):
Just a tough, rugged football team.
Speaker 5 (02:38:18):
This would be a huge test because Carson back with
Miami Catholics versus Convicts, all of that played over and
over and over again. To me, I'm gonna go with
Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (02:38:28):
Jeremiah love to run it back because it's difference. Yes,
that's backfield, and between them and Penn State, you get
both backfields back. I'm a big Marcus Freeman fan. I
think he's a great coach, so I'm all about nd uh.
Listen to my brother. A lot of fun today, Enjordy
this morning.
Speaker 3 (02:38:46):
Let's do it a luck tomorrow, let's do it again.
Speaker 2 (02:38:49):
For sure, we're gonna wish you guys a beautiful day.
Fellas are out.
