Speaker 4 (01:29):
It was good. It was good. Good to hear from
you again. If you just pick organ to win the championship,
you probably win your bracket challenges, and I would know
that heads up on that one. It was good. My
family is back from skiing, so that was good to
see him last night. And my wife already said like,
I might go to beach tomorrow. Okay, Well, nice seeing you.
Good to know you, and I'll see after Christmas break
(01:51):
is over. My family's on the move at all times,
so we'll see how that goes.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
But each where are they going Florida?
Speaker 4 (01:58):
We have a place in Wortle Beach, Okay, Cherry Grove
ish right, right right, They'll go at some point, I
would imagine I just told him. I'm like, look, I
got a lot of work. But I mean a lot
of work. I mean I want to watch Oregon play
by myself on January first. That's basically what I've told
them at this moment. But nonetheless, I'm going to talk
(02:19):
with you. Lots of football, lots of news, lots of
things happen in the world, of sports.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
All right, let's start off in college football. Let's start
off with Michigan, because the big news yesterday called Whittingham
is the coach.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I will say.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
We touched on it last hour, but Penn State and
Michigan both I think escaped. They got lucky because I
think Whittingham is a good choice for Michigan after the
mess that was made with Seron Moore, and Penn State
of course landed Matt Campbell, and I think that was
good for their program. So I think Michigan winds up
(02:58):
kind of luck it out it could have been.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
So this is such a win for Michigan. Even if
you told me that Michigan was replacing Sharono with Kyle
Whittingham after the season, knowing there were no scandals, I'd
be like, yeah, okay, that's a much better upgrade. Yew,
you have a scandal that threns to ruin your program.
(03:23):
It's peers. Nobody really wanted that job, right, a lot
of people. It seemed like we're up for it, but
in the end didn't want it, didn't get it, and
you luck out with Kyle Whittingham. I don't this incredible
fortune that they ended up with with with Utah's coach.
I know Kyle Whodhem well, obviously I did packed on
(03:44):
radio for many years when he was in the conference.
My co host went to Utah, lives in Utah, does
radio in Utah. Now I know the program Utah's program
very well. I know Kyle Whitdehem very well. Just from
a fit of we're gonna keep the identity of what
(04:04):
Michigan has done for so many years. This is a
home run hit, right, because you're gonna run the ball,
you're gonna be physical, you're gonna play discipline football, You're
going to try to beat up the opponent. All those
things are hugely important insensive Michigan over the years. And
then of course there's zero schedule cowed of him, absolutely nothing.
You know, I saw there was a you know, joking
(04:25):
tweets that on Instagram he follows like just his wife
and kids. That that's you know, like, that's what he is.
He's been at one place in the world.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Coach.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Well, it's funny, is he actually like he is very interesting?
He's well, I know he is. He's you have no
scandals with with uh with Whittingham, and a couple of
things I think Michigan fans are not Michigan fan but
just sort of you know, house state fans. Whoever's talking
down about this this higher people will point to the
(04:57):
two years before that he was ten two this year.
The previous two years he was I think went five
wins and eight wins. Those two years he had no quarterbacks.
His quarterbacks were hurt and then other players were hurt
as well. Last year was a was a year from
it was a bad year of injury wise, and he
bounced back this year to win ten games. So in
the three previous years he had a healthy quarterback, he
(05:18):
went won ten over ten games and made two Rose
Bulls in a row, and then two years they had injuries,
and this year they did that he won ten games. Yeah,
he's been a winner many times over. He led Utah
from the Mountain West to the Pac twelve and they
won the Pack twelve like that. That story is underreported
(05:38):
in my mind, the success he had of doing that,
they had to reinvent the entire program. They had to
bring in more bodies, Like his record would be even
better if they didn't have to spend four years retooling
the program, which they did to get bodies to playing
the Pack twelve conference. So I think this is just
it's just this could have been better for for mission
(05:59):
end up with with Kyle Whittingham, the surroundings of him
leaving Utah are not very complicated, So I I hate
hates the wrong word. I don't strongly dislike the coach
and waiting moniker. Okay. So oftentimes in college football there
(06:21):
is this idea that a coach will be the coach
in waiting, right, So you know, the current head coach
is older, and there's an assistant coach on the staff,
and when the older coach retires, the assistant coach becomes
the new coach, and because he's been he's promised, right,
but actually succession. But in this case it's actually any
(06:42):
Morgan's guy's contract. He's the coach in waiting. So Kyle
Whodeham is basically threatened said he's gonna retire for a
couple of years now, and the thought was this year
he was going to retire. It was finally gonna happen.
Right his last home game, he was very emotional and
everyone thought he was gonna retire, and then it seemed
(07:03):
like he decided not to retire, and so but they
asked him to step aside so Morgan Skyley can run
the program now. And now, obviously Winningham is not the
Misigan coach, so UTAH didn't fire him. It wasn't that
you didn't really want him anymore. They just wanted the
guy that they kept telling everyone was going to be
the coach in waiting. But they forced out a Hall
(07:27):
of fame coach for a coach who's never coached before,
And that to me is really bad process by Utah.
If Kyle Whateningham wants to stay and be your coach,
he's staying. He's gonna be your coach, And UTAH really
messed this up.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, there is this fascination that we have behind you know,
Curt number three right determined it Like, oh my god,
what if?
Speaker 3 (07:55):
What if it's the next greatest? What if this guy
is the next greatest coach?
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Meanwhile, when you got proven people that have already won, ye, Like,
what are you looking for? Like we're almost always looking
for something that doesn't exist.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yes, I'm Utah fans telling me that that Morgan Scalley
is a coaching waiting. The decordinator is is wit two
point zero? I'm like I don't know he's not caught
winning him. I mean, here, here's the thing you got, wit, Like,
what are you trying to do? Like, here's you forgot
how to coach. Here's the thing about coaching waiting though,
(08:35):
that that really makes it difficult for me, is that
you don't know if that coach is going to be
good first of all, right, but also limits your opportunities
to find maybe a better coach. Like like, what if
Utah's job opened up and Matt Campbell wanted that job.
Let's just say, Matt Campbell, He's just been a Utah guy.
He's always eyed that job, right, and he wants that job.
Are you really going to turn down Matt Campbell to
(08:56):
keep Morgan Scalley. I wouldn't. But it's more it's this
guy's contract that he's next up. And look, Kyle Whittingham
my knock on. Utah has always been offensively, they've just
been lacking at the wide receiver, which they have. But
this past year he had won the best offense lines
of the country. He went out and hired an offensive
coordinator from New Mexico that really never fit the profile
(09:19):
of what he had done in the past on offense.
He branched out at sixty six. He decided to run
a different offense, which I love. I love that he
branched out and they ran a different offense than he's
ever ran before this beast year. It worked right one
bet offensive country. So the ability to adapt at his
age I think is really impressive because a lot of
older coaches we know just don't want to ever adapt
(09:40):
and do what they always do.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Is.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Recruiting has been better the last couple of years in Utah.
Now he goes to Michigan, he gets spriceed Underwood. He
has the resources of that program. Man. I just I
think Michigan couldn't have gotten any luckier that they ended
up with Colin. It's not a guy probably there ten
years obviously, but a guy who very clearly still wanted
to coach and was forced out at Utah. And now
(10:03):
you's got to live with that decision. I think that's insane.
But hey, man, I'm not you doest a d and
good for coach Coach Win. I like Coach Wit. He's
a good dude. He's gonna be fun interview, he's gonna
be honest, and he loves football. Man. He's a football guy.
So great fit for Michigan.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yeah, I completely agree.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
I thought, you know, it's funny because we were all like,
oh my god, what are you going to do? You
lose your coach at this stage of the game and
a whole night, and it turned out.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
To be a blessing. It's because he's got so lucky.
But he did. He just and maybe they were talking
for a while. Now I don't think so. I think
that Whittingham decided or Utah decided basically to get rid
of him, and this just happened to work out for
Michigan the way it did. And you know, he said
when he was leaving Utah that he was going to
(10:53):
try to leave it in a better place. And then
he's now he's gouging all the coaches, which should because
why I you told me I had to leave, I
left and I got Yeah. I think he's gonna take
the offensive line coach was really good. I think he's
gonna take well, he's taking the OC He already said that,
I believe, And now I mean, good luck. You taught. Look,
(11:16):
you asked for this. This is what you wanted, right,
You wanted to go to Morgan Scalley, and now you
get what you asked for, so yet I think it's bold.
I probably would have kept if I wanted to keep coaching,
But now Michigan gets the benefit of having coach witness
their head coach, and he'll be announced. I believe today
is going to their bowl game, right or tomorrow? Whatever?
(11:36):
Did they play today? No, no, they're not one of
the teams to play to day. But I think he's
going to Orlando today to meet with the players and
the coaches that they're still there, and some families because look,
it's a bowl game, right, so the families of the
Michigan players are in Orlando. So it's a good opportunity
for me to get to know the fail. Like they're
gonna dude, they're gonna love him.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Man, Remember they got Texas wednesday.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Dude, looking too, is like you're gonna have a guy
who the families love man?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Like is is you know?
Speaker 4 (12:06):
He he is a family guy, he's loyal, he's committed,
no scandals and and look this, I think this does matter.
He might not be religious in the same way that
everyone else is religious, Like he's not. He's Mormon, right,
but that being religious does matter as a coach, Like
the football is a is a sport that a lot
(12:29):
of players are very religious, right, and I think a
man of faith it might not be the same faith.
You believe it exactly, but like a man of faith
does go you know this, you're you're in the community
of the football community. It goes a long way.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Like it's a it's a very possitive it is. It's
a big.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
It's a big positive. Again, he's Mormon, so he's not
It might not be the same religion as other players.
I imagine most players mission are not Mormon, but the
fact is like families will appreciate his commitment to religion, right,
and that's a go way when he talks to the
family members as he tries to make in road, says, look,
you know, the portal's gonna open up soon. The number
(13:07):
one job of him is keeping Bryce underwood. And a
man of faith will help all of this.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. I think I think you're you're
right there. How do you It's funny you mentioned does
you just asked flippantly?
Speaker 4 (13:24):
You know?
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Can the Michigan play is Michigan playing today? Right?
Speaker 2 (13:27):
So there's eight Bowl games today, Yeah, and and none
of them are really any good from b.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
YU the Pop Darks bull should be good the b
YU Tech game, right, this would be okay? Yeah yeah,
but what do you do with the Bulls?
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Like we everything needs to be figured out, Like what's
gonna happen with the playoffs next year? I guess there's
gonna be expansion, right, But the balls also, you know
the portal dates and kids playing and you know, teams
not taking bowl games, Like it's just weird because it's
(14:08):
such a heavy ball day today and they had me
thinking about I love ball season, but these games are hard,
like almost unwatchable anymore so.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Man, When I was a kid, I loved watching the Bulls.
I waited and by the way, like today about today
was not on a Saturday. But I always looked at
the Holiday Bowl, which you said about about YU about
this time December twenty eight, twenty seventh, as like the
(14:41):
standard of when bull season started, right, that was like
that was the best typically the best bowl game that
wasn't a New Year's Day bawl, Right, it was that
the Alimble Bowl, like you know, those were like the
big ones, right, And I always viewed it as like
the start of ball seas like I used to love
it because it was a pat twelve school was in
it a a big twelve school is in at sort
(15:02):
of schools you knew, and there were Again it was
like the best of the rest, right that did make
a BCS Bowl or or whatever else. So now obviously
the Bulls are such a hodge podge. Look, I will
watch football today. I actually think I'm not going to
bet on a single game today. Betting on the bowl
games have been just who knows about. It's a complete crapshoot,
(15:23):
no no idea what's happening because of course you opt out,
you have a lot of things happening in with rosters
and and everything that flucks. I've enjoyed watching the football,
but it's tough to have any connection to to these
games today because a lot of players have opted out
to the NFL or the portal. You know, the care factor,
(15:46):
I don't know. I don't know if the team's gonna care.
I don't know if by using a care today, I
think they're gonna care, but I don't know if they're
gonna care, And that plays I think a big role
in how we view a lot of these games. So
I'll watch them, but I don't think I really going
to care very much.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Yeah, I just you know, there needs almost to be.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Some sort of system where they're they're incorporated into these into.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
The playoffs or you know, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
I mean I love the balls, and I just you
just got me thinking about it, you know, when you're
looking at it, because even even you know again now
next week, as the week goes on, it's going to
get better. And but still right like I was talking
to my buddy Matt Ruhle, and you know, they're not
(16:36):
in a great position right now, but they're playing on
New Year's Eve Day right like they got a pretty
they got a prime spot.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
I it's so funny. I'll give you a good example
of the ball season.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Right.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
So we've talked about this game before Nebraska and Utah.
I love Utah. I loved Utah in this game. I
made a wager on this game. I took Utah in
this game, and then their coach leaves and now it's like,
well I don't like it as much anym or Right,
this is what bull is where it's just so unpredictable
and you know you have a handicap for a team
(17:10):
and someone sits out or vice versa, and yeah, it's
just the bull season is again like they like the
care factor, Like why does Nebraskas use them? For example,
they already have uh you know, they're they're eyeing a
new quarterback right as a quarterback left of the portal,
they have a new coaches all over the roster, right,
(17:31):
new DC and new off it's a line coach. The
other changes are along the roster. I get they're supposed
to care about this bowl game, Like I understand that,
and it'd be good to beat Utah. But the fact is,
this game doesn't mean anything for next season, right, Like
the quarterback playing in this game, you know probably the
backup right is not going to be the quarterback next year, right,
(17:53):
And it doesn't really feel like the game matters for
that Now for Utah, I actually think that does matter
because now Morgan Scalley is coaching his first game. Like
the matter does it matter to me? Is a big
part of this whole process Utah. I would imagine the
bowl game matters for them, right, new coaching staff is
(18:14):
getting the first off quard beat like it matters. Nebraska
doesn't matter. I don't think any of the games forecast,
what's gonna happen next season. But even looking at it today,
like Penn State Clemson are playing. Okay, Penn State obviously
is a brand new coach. The roster will look completely
different next year. Clemson seven to five, their worst season
in years? Who care? Like, who's going to care? Like
(18:38):
this game is playing the Yankee Stadium too, Like yeah,
who freak?
Speaker 3 (18:42):
And by the way, it's freezing, Yeah I don't. We
just got a storm stormine.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
I also have like a hot take where like bowl
games should only be played in warm weather cities. But
that's a different Like I just think that your reward
for a season of making a bowldout Penn State and Clemson.
Don't look at this as a reward. I'll tell you that.
But you know you look at you look at Army
and Yukon.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I agree. I agree with either a dome or a
warm weather play. So yeah, I agree.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
So Yukon Army are playing today in uh in the Fenway, Okay,
in Boston. Yukon's nine and three like a great season.
Their reward is playing in fourteen degrees and in in
in a baseball stadium.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yeah, but if you're a Yukon playing at Fatways, cool.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
I guess, but your what should be going to play
in a nice warm weather city. Yeah, like I get it,
I get it, but like you know, I mean it
is cool. You're playing at the Snoop the Snoop Dog
Snoop Dog Bowl today. Yeah, yeah, that was that. That
was the old barstool Bowl, right that the area of
the balls changed changed, And we have a new Mexico
Bowl today, a Gator Bowl, which used to be a
pretty fun game. That might be interesting, but Missouri's court
(19:51):
bra situation is bad. And then we have a Texas
Bowl tonight between LSU. Again, like, what is else? Do
you care about that game tonight?
Speaker 2 (19:57):
I know I out mine out. Well let's do this though.
Let we're gonna take quick t oh. There are two
NFL games the other Now. The last two weeks in
the season is bizarre. Man, it almost feels like we're
limping into the end before we gear it back up
(20:19):
for the playoffs. So let's kind of dive into where
we stand as we enter week sixteen of the NFL season.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Wow, man, already, dude, it's going by fast, buddy, I know,
I know I.
Speaker 2 (20:38):

Speaker 3 (22:02):
All right, my brother, here we go.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Week seventeen in the NFL got on their way Christmas Day.
Any thoughts on the Christmas Day games which were all
duds to be honest with you.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
So we've had seven holiday games so far this year,
three on Thanksgiving, one on Black Friday, three on Christmas,
all underdogs covered in the games, and five went out right,
which is cod Are you serious? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Wow, yeah, yeah, it's been. It's wow.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
That's wild. All three covered with ease the other day.
I think the story of Christmas is the Lions, right,
their window is closed. So this is how fast windows
can close. In the NFL. You have a short window.
Even when they lost the Niners in the NFC Championship.
Dan can Amble said after the game, like you never
(23:01):
know when you're gonna be back, and right now the
Lions are and I understand the thought of like, you know,
Lions fans are like, you know, we we we retool,
and I maybe maybe, but your division is getting tougher
very you know, with kill Williams emerging. Now, you know
the Packers always going to be good. I maybe maybe
(23:25):
you get back to Jared Goff will be a year older.
You need some improvements on the offensive line, need some
improvements on defense. Hopefully you stay health and that'll be
a big benefit. But you sort of had a shot
and it didn't go well. You lost close enerty jump game.
You got blown out last year because of a injurers
in the division A round and I mean.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
I mean the ultimate, the ultimate. They've been stake pitched.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Yeah, of course, but I think that they I think
they just I don't know if they're that good on defense,
if they're all healthy. Anyways, I think that defense last
year they were good. They got smash on defense well
of course, but this year wasn't that bad in all
season and they had some obviously moments that their defense
had a lot of injuries. So the window to me
(24:09):
is just sort of closed right now for the Lions,
and you know they'll run it back next year. They
really need a new offense coordinator, right Dan Campbell's incredible
head coach, but they need someone to run the offense. Obviously,
with Ben Johnson gone, it was just a different offense.
This year is as expected, Dan Campbell took a big
role in that offense because he had to. Essentially, I
(24:30):
think that he's best if he's just a CEO head coach,
and so hiring a new OC will be very valuable
and important for the Lions. But that's I mean, look,
they lost a game where you know, they were minus
six and turnovers. I get that, but until Broze were
completed a pass at the end of the game for
(24:51):
ten yards, the vikings were minus seven and team passing
because sacks go to team passing. It was a gross
game and the Lions just can't lose that game if
there be if they're a serious team this year, and
they're not, it's why that they're where they are right now.
And that to me is the big takeaway from from
you know, Christmas and you look the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
To me, well wait, hold on, they don't leave the
line to ship, Okay, because I think their problems, I mean,
obviously their defense is secondary. Guy, they got emaciated with injuries,
the whole mind.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
We know that.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
But their biggest problem on offense was less Dan Campbell
my eyes, but more their offensive line. Right, Like, they
couldn't run the ball. There were there were four games
in the last seven where they just couldn't run the
ball at all, Like Gibbs, who I thought was unstoppable,
(25:50):
got taken.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Out, right, So we had Dan Miller the Lions playably
played on the radio the other day, and then I
think he mentioned Frank Now's name seven times, who was
a former center who retired at the beginning of the
season with because the injuries. And then I'll started trying
to come back with a Grade three hamstring tear, which
is wild that even thought he has a physical with
(26:13):
a tear like that. But look, they have to figure
that out obviously, right, because you're not gonna I if
he's that important, which I argue he obviously clearly was.
You have to figure that part out because you can't
go to the next season with that big of a
of a loss at center. I don't know. If it's
the draft, then they draft of Tate Religie, maybe he
(26:34):
becomes your full time center moving forward. He wasn't ready
for that this season, so that that's only possible that
he becomes your guy. But until you figure that out,
you know clearly you're just not gonna be as good
on offense, and you need to figure that position out. Yeah, yeah,
big time all right, the Denver Man, No, what a
(27:00):
fucky game. I uh, I have my reservations about them still,
I still think they're a very talented team. Box sort
of just makes plays at the end of games. He
has to. I mean, dude, this team was it was
thirteen thirteen right at one point in the fourth quarter,
but Chiefs had ninety five yards on offense. Yeah, I took.
(27:23):
I took the Chiefs under ten and a half points,
and I lost the wager because the Chiefs scored thirteen
points on ninety five yards on offense.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Yeah, which is insane.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
As the Bronx are gonna have the one seam most likely,
I think, and that puts them in a great spot
to the the AFC. So uh, scale won the ten
year Belief on the in the Broncos because I there's
something about that team that I just don't buy. It's
(27:58):
both you don't buy boecks, That's what it is. I
think having I think having home field is hugely important
in this playoff because it's just one less game to
play for all these teams that we don't really trust.
It's that simple, right, Like it's one less game. The
Bronles have to play. It's one less game that the
(28:20):
Patriots would have to be. The Patriots to me, are
even more for a game, mean patriar being this season
had been two teams with a ready record. That's it. Yeah,
but I love Drake May. Yeah, but Drake May is
really good. He's just it's just not their time yet.
Like that, I think Drake May next year. I think
you look at the Patriots next year, you feel great
(28:41):
about them. But right now it's just not it's not
their time, which is fine. I mean, that's what happens
with with young teams. Jackson had a great win last
week at Denver. I personally still have reservations about Trevor Lawrence.
We'll see in the coup post season time. You know,
Buffalo is still hanging around. Of course, they have a
big game, it's your score later this weekend. Again with them,
(29:04):
their defense is just not good. It's not good. So
a lot of question marks for the teams in the
a f C. And nothing really we saw on Saturday
on Thursday. Change and my squad's playing today. Oh no, no,
it's say Saturday, yeah, squad, squad. You tease me about
(29:24):
the Texans. Oh, you're yeah, well that game your other
squad does play today. You're a Texas team, the best
team the NFL. That game will be interesting because I
ain't No one's scoring that game. I have no faith
anyone's scoring. And I like CJ Man, I root for CJ. Yeah,
(29:48):
I mean I don't. I don't not root for anybody.
But the playoffield is set basically right, The NFC is set,
we know the eight, we know the eight teams that
can make it. The NC South is still up for grabs.
Then the West is all progressed. We know the teams
are going to be in there, so a little anti
climbact as we get to I know, good Dell probably
hates that we get to this point of season and
(30:09):
we sort of know you know who the Pluto playoff
teams are gonna be.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Yeah, because all like like thig about it, all three
games were duds to watch on Christmas Day. I watched
all of them, though, well most of America did, right,
like we all watch football.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
But everyone convinced me the NBA is more popular on Christmas.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Nah, I think the ratings already show it. The NBA
was Actually I felt really entertaining on Christmas Day.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
The only thing it.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Sucks is I didn't stand up for the fifty five
fifteen to fifteen game from Yokis unfortunately. Yeah, he's he's
just ridiculous, dude. Eighteen points in overtime. I mean, that's
just unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
I watched it. He's unbelieved, He's just there is a
point shame on me.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Right where I thought that Embiid was better, it was
a brief moment in time. Nevertheless, I thought Embiid was
better because Embid played def like was a defense for
for us too, right, like he could be a rim protector.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
I should admit that you thought that.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
I know, well, I show you up to stand up
die man, I like, you know, I keep it real,
right like when I look when I and I noticed,
I said, there was a brief moment when that happened.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
A brief moment of madness. Yeah, Yoka is incredible. So
uh but today's game is though the first game is great,
Texans Charger is going to be a great matchup. It's
hugely important for AFC. It's hugely important thing for both teams.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
I don't believe in the Chargers. That's an all things.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
Well, I think I think Tod you what will show
us a lot, and I love Herbert, but I just
don't believe in their offense. Well, there's a thing Today
feels like a day that the will know about their
offense because they're gonna have to win games like these
in the playoffs. The I think, I think no one's
(32:12):
scoring in this game. The total super low. You know,
the the Chargers offensive line has issues, the Texans offensive
line has issues. Their defenses are both playing very well.
I think they're set up to play very well. I
think this game is a very physical game. I mean,
it's a tough game. And I think that the under
(32:33):
is is what how this game ends up? So, you know,
curious to see obviously the final result of this one,
but I do think that the under is certainly in player. Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Mean I agree with those two defenses. I feel you,
all right, let's go through the we're gonna keep God,
I really want to kind of dive deeply into the
kind of what we're going to learn from this week,
and then we got college football to really go into.
No Brain today, I have his picks, but no Brain,
(33:06):
it's gonna bump you out.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
We cannot by the way skip to the Labar Jackson
convo because that that, to me is maybe the most
fascinating thing of this entire day. It's not even anyone
who's playing today, She's not playing today.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Really, it's the truth. Yeah, we'll dive into all that stuff.
We've got lots to do. Fella's Jeff Schwartz, Anthony Garganta
right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
Right here, you're on Fox Sports Radio. Emmy, iHeart app.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
So you mentioned that the other game today, because there's
three NFL games or two NFL games today, Texas and Chargers,
also Baltimore and Green Bay in a game that the
Ravens obviously need just to keep their slim hopes alive.
And it appears no Lamar, who is doubtful for the game.
(34:27):
Looks like Huntley is going to play again. This has
been a dreadful nightmare of the season for Lamar.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Jeff it has been and look a lot to talk
about Lamar this week. And I'll say this, So he
has a back bruise, right, confusion and contusions can vary
in severity depending on where they are in the body
(34:59):
and just how your body responds to pain. Right, you
can have a thigh contusion, a thive bruise that that
makes you unable to walk like it could be that painful, right,
So he can have a back intusion that makes well,
just really cripples his ability to move into walk into play.
(35:19):
It's I give him the right for that to be
as bad as it is, but I don't know, man,
It does feel like a lot of quarterbacks would would
would make it their mission to play in this game,
right with a back intusion. And that's I think that's
what's really bothering people more than anything else. And I
think that's why the Ravens put out the hit piece
(35:42):
this week on Lamar because they're tired of it too.
He's ended multiple seasons in the last three you know,
not last year two years ago, but I think thirteen
and not twenty three and twenty two, or maybe twenty
one and twenty two. He ended those years hurt. He
gets hurt throughout the year, flew this and that like
(36:02):
little things, and I think that the Ravens. There was
article out this week in the Baltimore Sun. You know,
it's so funny, man, people people get so worked up
about articles like that. How do they know that he's
playing video games? How do they know the things? I'm like, guys,
the team is telling the reporter of this stuff like
(36:23):
he's not making it up. They told him to report
this stuff. They didn't go on record, of course, but
they said, he here are the things that we don't
like about Lamar.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
I'll tell you how it goes all right.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
As someone who's covered teams, been a beat writer, you
have your trusted sources, of course, everywhere, from the trainer
who wants to get the coaches wish out right, like
the trainer is the extension of the coach. He in
some places the trainer has is like the second most
(36:54):
powerful person in the building. Oh, but you got that right,
Like you can't the city, Well, Rick Rick burke Alter
is the trainer at Kidsas City who's been with Andy
since the beginning in Philadelphia since ninety nine, right, all
those years, right, and and Rick was Andy's eyes and
the ears in the locker room, right, Like you know
(37:15):
Ronnie Barnes with the Giants is just he's the same
way like these guys to your point, like they're with
they're with these they're with these coaches forever. Yeah, and
they become and as players you learn when you're young,
you don't know this, but like you think sometimes the
training room is like sort of where and then you
(37:37):
realize that the best friend is the trainer. So yeah,
I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, but
you do learn as a player that it's kind of
a hierarchy of how a building is.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yeah, I think about it. The coach needs the trainer.
The coach like the traders like.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
The the players every day, yeah, offseason, like it's a
it's a trusted I don't disagree with with how they
you know, it's handled. But in the building though, sometimes
you realize like too late, like that you should say
traders but the point is this, the story is out
there about Lamar because the Ravens are tired of it, Okay,
And whether you agree or disagree with how the Ravens
(38:16):
have handled this, they are telling you they are done
with Lamar if he doesn't essentially, you know, turn into
a more professional football player outside of the building. Again,
you might not like it, you might not agree with it.
You might not like that it's a hit piece. I
get all those things, but you have to listen to
(38:37):
the message. The message is the Ravens are done with
this because the.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Real quick just to double down, just to explain people
kind of how it goes, right. So John Harble is
not going to come out and destroy Lamar, right, He's
not going.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
To do that.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
So but you need to get the message out right
because you have to prepare the fan. You have to
put pressure on Lamar. You got to put pressure on
Lamar's camp, and this stuff that's been frustrating this team
with Lamar has to come out in a way. So
what happens is they know who they who they handed to. Yep,
(39:18):
they know who will deliver the message. Hey, by the way,
you want a story or it's just we're freaking out. Man,
We're freaking out because you know Lamar is doing this.
He's sleeping, he's falling, you know, falling asleep in meetings, video.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Games, blah blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
Right, it comes out, and then then John Harber goes,
I don't know about this fall asleep and meeting, you know,
at meetings like that's how this whole game is played.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
When you're going after a sacred cowt like the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
It is played this way. Now, the thing that I
am curious about is who goes, Lamar or John Harbaugh?
Speaker 3 (40:03):
I have it.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
I think I know who goes, But someone's going the
coach of the or the quarterback, and that's not up
for the owner's side once the season's over.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
So it's going to be a fascinating conversation. I'm curious
to see where you kind of line up on it.
So why don't you hold it and we'll take a
quick to o and come back.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
And you tell us.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
And you're in mind because I have a feeling too
as to where this thing hands. So we'll compare notes
and take a look at it. But big time change
is coming to Baltimore, for sure, Fellas on Fox.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Holidays continue. Football continues to NFL games. Today Texans and
the Chargers bantle of defense, two of the best defenses
in the AFC.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
Go at it and Packers.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
I guess there's still a chance they can overtake the Bears,
but they're locked in pretty much against Baltimore, clinging to
their final playoff breath about to be extinguished. Jeff, what happens?
Because I think there's a chance they're both gone next year.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
I think the minimum John Harbaugh is gone is much
easier to move on from the coach and the quarterback.
It's less messy, and it's probably easier to sell to
your fan base, and easier to sell that we can
bring in someone who is maybe younger and can and
(42:18):
just has a better relationship with Lamar and runs a
different offense and is able to set up this team
in a better way. You know, you might have soured
on Lamar, and that's certainly like fair I guess to do.
It happens often with coaches and players. But you're not
(42:38):
going to find another Lamar anywhere, right if you go
the route of getting rid of Lamar. This draft is
not one to get a quarterback in. Right, It's not
a great quarterback draft. Free agent wise, it's almost rarely
a quarterback is any is worth anything? You're not trading
for one either. So if you get rid of Lamar,
and again, I mean it's certainly within their right to
(42:59):
get rid of them. I just don't know what they
do at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
I mean, you know wander well, right, you're now in
the quarterback wilderness, which means this is what they're looking at.
Is is now the time to press the reset? But
that's what you're looking at. You got take stock into
what your what your team is. Yeah, how far are
(43:26):
they from a Super Bowl? You just don't reset very
often with players like Lamar and your roster. But I know,
and that's why the coach feels like the best option
here because you don't really reset personally. I don't think John.
I don't think John's bad. I think hardball's gone that
I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (43:45):
The thing with Lamar is again, like what package are
you getting from Lamar? I do think the injuries as
good as Lamar is would lower the price for what
teams are willing to pay for Lamar. I mean, the
guys gets hurt a lot, and I think that probably
has teams a little bit worried if they trade for him.
(44:08):
Can we end the season with him playing? Right? Because
obviously if you trade from your expectations or that you're
going to be a playoff team and maybe a little
bit further than that. But are you telling me that
Woody Johnson with the Jets is not like, go get
me Lamar, you know, like Steven.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
Saying, I mean it would be dive and breathe life
into the Raiders, Right, you got you got all that,
You got that nonsense, like could you imagine the Raiders?
Speaker 4 (44:37):
By the way, the Raiders and Giants are extreme, the
perfect takeoff right now this weekend. Yeah, it's very I'm
actually very impressed by both teams their willingness to take
in this game. Yeah. I think a lot of teams
would would surely entertain the idea of going of going
with Lamar again, Who's going to do it? For what price?
All those things are true, But I think at the
(44:59):
minimum we both agree Horball is not there anymore. Yes, yes,
And you saw the fact.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
One of our fine listeners, Nikki, pointed this out on
the text board, that there was a lot of anti
Horrball sentiment coming out stories being written over the last
few weeks, which is usually the precursor to the end.
And you know that's been talked about about running its course,
and he's been there a long time.
Speaker 4 (45:28):
It happened to his uh to Amy Reid, and it's
got in Philadelphia. I saw it that was with him,
and about these when you're there in a long plate,
you're in place for a long time, what happens naturally?
So years ago, I think, Horba, how much do you
(45:50):
do you buy the idea that, like just that he's
not playing today, and how much that really affects this
decision with Lamar?
Speaker 2 (45:58):
I think I think it's harder. The problem that they
have with them, Yeah, can you count on them? I mean,
you know, I think they explained. I'm a big fan
of his. I think the I think the guy is
a man when he when he's right, is he's just
such a weapon. The problem is he hasn't had that
(46:19):
those moments in the playoffs, right, they've been disastrous.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
The ends of seasons haven't been great.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
And you kept waiting for him to take this next step, right,
like he was always great, but he expected just to
tag more.
Speaker 3 (46:39):
But it really kind of has it come. And this
year it's just been kind of a disaster.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
Yeah. And and the the opportunity was obviously when they
hosted the Chiefs well a couple of years ago, that
was the opportunity to throw the Chiefs didn't go well.
That the Zay Flowers wasn't great. It's not Lamar's fault, right,
I mean there's other instances of the teammates not helping him,
which is certainly right.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
Let's face it, he's had a dearth of weapons too,
you know.
Speaker 4 (47:03):
That's I just think that they're sort of a long
way away from I think the roster being where it
needs to be especially like offensive one. The roster's gotten worse.
That's why I think Hardball is on the way out
because the roster has also gotten worse.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
Dude, I think they need to rebuild the thing. Like
they're not.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
They're farther from the super Bowl if you look at
that roster. They need to get it. They need they
need to go back and fix it.
Speaker 4 (47:31):
Who who's closer the Chiefs are the Ravens to getting
back to where they want to be, to be the Chiefs. Yeah,
it's just not. I think it's just I don't even
think it's close to the Ravens. That's not the answer
you wanted to hear, obviously, right, Like the Chiefs with
all their issues, are closer. And I'm with you. I
think I totally agree with you on that. Like they're
they're just they're they're just closer to being than you know,
(47:54):
where they need to be then than the Ravens are.
Obviously Mahomes certainly helps with that, but the raven are. Yeah,
it's uh, but they got some young they had younger pieces,
and like I'm expecting their line to get fixed and
I'm expecting they solve good young They saw some good
decent young pieces on defense, and I you know, you
(48:15):
got Rice and Worthy who were young. I think I
think Worthy starting to piss me off. But I know
I'm just like, how many times you have to do
you have to step out of bounds on it when
you try to catch a pass? I just think in bounds.
His spatial awareness is just atrocious. It's crazy how bad
it is. Yeah, it's bad. This is This is one
(48:37):
thing that I've I've that I actually am sort of
curious about with a new coach. So Lamar Jackson wears
the the the mouthpiece what's it called the pacifier mouthpiece? Right?
So when you wear mouth there's two choices for mouthpieces, right,
there's the ones that that basically like stick on your teeth, right,
(48:59):
the small ones right to stick on your teeth, or
the pacifier. One of them you can talk with. You
can talk with the molded ones, right that go on
your teeth because you can still talk. The pacifier you can't.
Now you can have it out of your mouth and
try to talk. But I've always been curious because Lamar's
the only quarterback, wh where's the pacifier? How does he
(49:21):
make line changes? How's he audible? How does he do
those things that are like upper level quarterback things pre
snap if he's wearing the mouthpiece that you can't talk.
Speaker 3 (49:32):
Out of, like I I wonder is he calling out
the protections?
Speaker 4 (49:39):
Well so so I so my, So I think that
all protections should be done by quarterbacks, like that's my Like,
that's my, that's my that's my that's my upper level.
Like when you're at the best offense possible. Yeah, because
like the you know, for example, like the most seams,
like like you're like your Eagles, Like I think the
center does all the protections. I think that's not the
(50:00):
best offense to go with. I think that the quarterbacks
got to be in charge of all of those things.
I think the next level up for Lamar and other quarterbacks,
by the way, is when they hire the new OC
jam at ways do it.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
He took over when Kelsey Kelsey used to do the
productions and then Jalen's taken over, Sue Jalen doesn't this year.
Speaker 4 (50:20):
That that to me is like the most highest funk
at the highest function offense that you can have. And
so I'm curious what the next offense Lamar has if
they just give him more to do I think that's
the best way to run an offense is to let
your quarterback be in charge of everything. And I hope
that that makes the offense because when you when your
quarterback isn't in charge of everything, you're not really on
(50:42):
the same page on offense and defense. Get take advantage
of that. I think it makes it tougher in close games,
it makes it tougher in those big moments. And so
I think Lamar can do all of that. And I
think that everything's just sort of gotten stale in in
in Baltimore, and I think that that this is what
they're gonna They're gonna hire a new coach, hire a
(51:03):
new offense. I need to be able to get an
offense that uses the run game more often and uses it,
you know. I think I think like a Shanahan type
offense will be great for them. So I'm kind of
curious what they do. And like, I just think Lamar
needs more responsibilities pre snap to help that offense as well.
So let me ask you this, Lamar's physical piece, where
(51:32):
is he? And you know, when you're taking pounding and
the hits and you're and you're a quarterback that that
moves like you just and you're just taking these he looks.
Now you go again, it's December, right, so he has
looked slower. He has looked not as you know, phantom
(51:55):
like like he used to be.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Now is that just it's November December, because you look
like that last month too, or is it you know?
Something more? And a guys just go, you know what?
I just can't he take any hits anymore.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
It's interesting you said that because I actually I always
have this debate because Lamar's is a special athlete that
I don't think you can take that away from him. Look,
I think if you if you take that away from him,
he's not the player that the best version of himself
(52:37):
is always thet with like with a concert about Cam right,
like to Camp stop right.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
Lamar has a great arm, Lamar Cam did too, But
I like Lamar. Lamar can throw about better than Cam exactly.
But the idea, but the identity of I think what
makes him so good as the be ability to do
both things really well. And it's it stresses a defense
so much in the quarterback can run and he doesn't
play as well.
Speaker 4 (53:03):
He doesn't when he doesn't run, just doesn't. And so
I think that the goal is. See he's not Also
he's not getting he also doesn't get hurt as much
when he actually scrambles. Now the back thing seems like
that was an instance where he did get hurt scrambling
historically the case. So again I don't know how you
(53:24):
tell him to stop, man, But also too, like you
can if you change the scheme, you can probably get
away with a more controlled style of running right where
it's more on the nakeds the boots, like things were
just not gonna get hit as much because he's out
(53:45):
in space already by design instead of just scrambling he's doing.
Now does that make sense, Like, I know you understand that,
but like there's a way to get easier offense and
then allow him to get in the edge where there's
gonna be more space instead of it's being scrambles. But
the last thing I'll say is, like the quarterback run
(54:07):
game is it's such an important part of short yarder's
goal line, especially in the game situations because the defense
doesn't account for the quarterback right in their account and
you get an extra blocker because of that. So like
you have an even opportunity as an offensive line and
(54:28):
when that running back turns into an extra blocker. You
had much better numbers. So that's why I think you
need someone to come in there offensively and sort of
figure out. Again, these are all the answers they're gonna
have to figure out, like what is the best way
to incorporate everything right, To give him some easier runs,
to make sure that he's able to stay upright, to
give him some easier passes, to give him more command
(54:48):
of the offense, in my opinion, and let him be
in charge of everything, which when you put that on
the quarterback, it's more responsibility. Right, they have to. If
they can't handle it, then they got to find a
way to do. And maybe that's one way to sort
of get him to if the video game thing is
really a problem, if you put more on his plate,
they might force him to study more and play those
video games. I don't the video game thing is. It's interesting.
(55:12):
I think it only matters when you when you're losing, Right,
if you're winning, no one cares. Nobody cares when.
Speaker 3 (55:17):
You start Kyler, Mary, you know, it hurt, It hurt.
Speaker 4 (55:24):
His progress. Remember that was early in his career. The
video game stuff hit Kyler. Yeah, so I'm really, I'm
just I'm just very fascinated by like where, like what
what Lamar?
Speaker 5 (55:37):
Like?
Speaker 4 (55:37):
What what comes next for his career?
Speaker 3 (55:40):
Isn't it better for him to go somewhere else? If that?
Speaker 2 (55:46):
Again, you're talking about a play. Now, I gotta figure
about like who would need quarterbacks?
Speaker 3 (55:51):
Right?
Speaker 5 (55:51):
Like?
Speaker 3 (55:52):
You don't want to mean Jets.
Speaker 4 (55:53):
Atlanta, Miami, Arizona, the Jets, Raiders. I mean they're great options,
right Like would you rather stick with the organization that
you know has proven to be a win?
Speaker 3 (56:04):
Well? I mean, who's gonna be the coach? Well?
Speaker 4 (56:07):
Again, this this is all important. All these are all
answers that that Lamar needs tests before he can give you.
You know, I don't know, I don't know, and I
don't know. And this is not a great year for
coaching candidates on paper, it's not it's not really like
a great year for that. So I mean this is
since the NFL that like, these are all decisions that
(56:27):
that you have to figure out to be successful and
and sort of to your point, like that reboot that
we think they have to do so that now you know,
I don't know what what their cap situation is and
this is fantasy football. But geez, Lamar in Minnesota with
those receivers, Oh my god, and that dude, that being
(56:48):
with Kevin O'Connell great, be really good for him, like.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
That that would be that would be the spot, right,
Like if you with Lamar in Minnesota with Kevin O'Connell
and those receivers.
Speaker 4 (57:05):
Are they are they over? They're over?
Speaker 5 (57:07):
J J.
Speaker 4 (57:07):
You think like that's not They're not gonna let you.
Speaker 3 (57:09):
I don't know, dude, a mistake going and naked with
just jjms yere.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
He also has three injuries already this season plus last
year's injury.
Speaker 2 (57:19):
I know, I can't believe that they did this to
themselves all because they were worried about JJ McCarthy looking
over his shoulder, Like what are you kidding me? And
by the way, I don't know. I mean, the kid's
got to be able to handle that if he's going
to be a if you're gonna last in the league, yeah,
(57:41):
you gotta be able to handle that stuff. I don't
understand it why they they treated with such kid gloves.
Speaker 4 (57:46):
I think it's more that they wanted him to have
the job because they need to figure out if he's
good or not now Otherwise you wasted that draft pick.
That's why I think that's more about Yeah, I mean, geez,
you know what would Rogers have been within the dome
with those receivers. I mean, he's played well in Pittsburgh
and it's time now. You imagine if he's got those
(58:09):
receivers and he's playing inside. Look, I've defended the Vikings
process here because I think that that they made the
right decision because they drafted McCarthy. He's on a rookie contract.
It's so important to have success on that rookie contract.
And if you don't know what you have in him
and you get rid of him that soon or don't
(58:30):
let him play, then look, you've basically wasted a draft back.
And I think, Okay, but I gotta win. Like the
idea is I have a window to win. I think
they thought that the window was a couple of years
with their roster and if McCarthy played well enough this season,
then next season is that is when it's like ready
to go?
Speaker 3 (58:49):
You know, yeah, I hear.
Speaker 4 (58:52):
That's my reasons. That's my thing.
Speaker 3 (58:54):
If I get it, I just go. Man. That was
a that was a leap of faith, A gigantic leap
of faith.
Speaker 4 (59:02):
Did not pay off. It was That's what I mean.
They tried, just didn't pay off. I know. And at
some point you wonder, is he better off out of Baltimore,
So to bring it back to Lamar, and I think
he is. I know, yeah, I mean, look, I think
(59:23):
I think it depends on on the coach, right, who
they're going to hire. And you hire the coach obviously
before you get rid of the player. So this's player
opportunity to figure that part out. John Harbor will be
hired like tomorrow by somebody. I mean, he'll be hired, yeah, immediately,
and I'm sure he'll do He'll do good wherever he's at. Yeah,
it's interesting. Harborball won the he won a championship with Flaco, right,
(59:48):
he was there with Flaco. That was he was the coach, right.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
Okay, remember that was the Hardball Bowl, the Niners.
Speaker 4 (59:56):
You're right, they won that. Yeah, the Superdome, the the
lights went outs. Who on that game. It's really fascinating
what Baltimore does. I'm very curious they're gonna fire Harball
or not. I think this mutual firing sounds too harsh,
like they they'll let him walk. Yeah, And they'll figure
out where to go from there. So this would be
interesting oftenly because not a lot not a lot of
(01:00:17):
coaches have been fired yet. Normally get six or seven
coaching changes, and not a lot of guys have gone yet.
We think that, you know, maybe Jonathan Gannon's gonna go,
or maybe the Pete Carroll's gonna go. But interesting cycle
because not a lot of names that pop up. Is
your last cycle, we had the Ben Johnson, the Vrabels,
like we sort of knew that who the guys were
(01:00:38):
gonna be ended up being really good coaches. No surprise there.
This cycle is filled with a lot of unknown for
these teams. I think that's why they might be sticking
with the coach they have now. Yeah, all right, let's
take t o we'll come back. I want to sweet
scears a little bit and when to get to college
and I want to look ahead to New Year's Eve.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
Wait, let's go, I you know, dude, to play man.

(01:02:52):
play of the game. Let's go to Northwestern first and
ten at the twenty three stone fax.
Speaker 4 (01:02:59):
The game protections good Stone looking towards the red side,
man wide open end zone touchdown all by himself in
the red side of the end zone. Locks it all right.
He was clear of any defender within about ten yards
and it is twenty to nothing Northwestern.
Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
Northwestern to Wind in the bowl game. That's from Learfield
dave in that all right, my man. Let's let's switch
gears a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Speaking of the our Fox Sports Radio bracket challenge, and
let's look at New Year's Eve it begins the playoffs. Buddy,
I know you're fired up. There's nothing like it. And uh,
just kind of we'll go through each of the four
games kind of looking into looking at looking at them.
(01:03:54):
Miami Ohio State is going to be I mean, I
like Ohio State a lot, but I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
I mean, Miami's defense is the truth.
Speaker 4 (01:04:05):
It's very good, and this game is interesting. The number
to me is big it's almost ten right for this game, yeah,
nine and a half. Yeah, I like Miami to cover.
But then I talked to some other people that I,
you know, my group chats and whatnot. They know ball well,
and they're like, Ohio State's going to dominate this game.
Mostly I think it's because they think that that ohas
(01:04:27):
It's defense is really going to control what Carson Beck
can do on offense and make life really hard for him.
And we've seen this year that you know, when life
is hard for Carson Becas for every quarterback, they're not
as clean. Look, I'll tell you this, Ohio States defense
is incredible. It is go on to the Indiana game.
Is it's not the Rice they lost them? Bro there,
(01:04:47):
They are bringing it and Miami will have their work
cut out for them. But I don't trust Ohio States offense.
They have basically played one team this year who could
sort of punch back on all on defense and they
lost that game. Now, to be fair, they go the
ball twice inside the twenty with zero points, you know,
in Indiana game. And I like that Ryan Day is
(01:05:11):
taking control of the offense. He's calling plays I think
we saw last year in the playoffs Ryan Day took
way more control of the offense. Yeah, and that really
worked out well for them in this one a mission
he had to Yeah, So I actually I think those
are really good things for Ohio State. But I think
this is a grind. It's what the total is like,
(01:05:32):
forty two, right, I think it's a grind of a
game man, forty Yeah. I think both these teams are
going to really focus on defense, ball control, punting, like
not taking chances. So I'm really looking forward to this one.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
Yeah, it's gonna be fun Wednesday night at seven thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:05:54):
I think they wins. I think they cover.
Speaker 5 (01:05:58):
I do.
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
I would like it, yeah, because here's the problem is,
like you saw against A and m it was a
slug fast and then finally Miami was able to kind
of break through.
Speaker 3 (01:06:10):
Right in this game, it's not going to take Ohio
State for you know, three and a half quarters to
break through.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
Like if you're gonna play the field position game and
not be able to move the ball, while sooner or
later Ohio State will hit a big one like Jeremiah
Smith's going to catch is going to catch a couple
right and sooner, sooner or later, they're going to get
a play. If you give them any kind of field position,
they're gonna break through. And then once they break through,
(01:06:40):
that's how the game kind of tips. That's how the
field tips.
Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
It does. And Ohio State is no defensive suffocating you
know their offense like just get the ball. Jeremiah Smith right, like,
that's I think that's to me is what Ryan Day
is gonna focus. That's what happened last year, right, they
gets Michigan. They didn't. They call jeremih Smith and he's like.
Speaker 3 (01:07:04):
No, enough of that.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
They tried to have physical Michigan, which was the dumbas
playing Chip Kelly correct, So I didn't Ohio State gets
this one done?
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Uh all right, I'm gonna save your game for last
that's word.
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
Well, I want to spend a little more time with
it because I'm just I don't, I know, I'm just
I'm dying here.
Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
First of all, I think, I mean, you're all. All
the games are awesome, but I think that's that's the
one game that I go.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
I don't know who's going to win.
Speaker 4 (01:07:41):
That's why I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna make the
kids for Oregon. We have a chance to talk about it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Okay, well I know I can spoiler alert you will. Uh,
let's go to Indiana. Alabama. Yeah, Indiana again, unbeaten against
the three loss tide Indiana, Like, it still amazes me, man,
who's your six and a half point favorite against Alabama?
Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
Wow? So I think Indiana is going to run away
with this game. Yeah, for a couple of reasons. So
it's so funny man. You know you I put out
there on one of my podcasts. I did they put
a video. I'm like, Alabama can't rush the passer. They can't.
They're ranked one hundred and thirty first on PFF and
(01:08:29):
pass rush. They are ranked in the hundreds in pressure rates.
And Alabama fans are like, you're you're a moron. We
got five sounds into Oklahoma last week. I'm like, okay,
that doesn't mean anything. We have season long stets. I've
watched you guys play football. The previous three SEC games
had four sacks total. Okay, guess what. That is not
(01:08:53):
the way to beat Indiana. No, if you let Mendoza
hang out back there, you're in a world of hurt.
Alabama can't run the football as well. They're just two
one dimensional. I think to be the rest Indiana team
who seems up for the challenge every single game. They've
won a ton of big games so far this season,
won close games, they won blowouts. I think Indiana's just
(01:09:13):
much better, which is shocking to say. And I think
Indiana handles business in a big way against Alabama. Yeah,
I think they roll. I think it's a double digit victory.
Like the one game I look at it, I go,
I think it's a mismatch. I do. I can't believe
(01:09:34):
I'm saying it, but I think it's a bad matchup
for Alabama. You know what's funny is that if we
said that in the NFL, like I think it's a blowout,
the game would undoubtably be close. Like you'd be like
the exact opposite happens in the NFL every week you
did in college football. I think that's not the case
(01:09:54):
at all. Like I might even worried about saying like,
I think it's a blowout. So I just like, I just,
I just I don't think it's I think that it's
going to be a blowout. I don't unless Biama can
force turnover. Indiana's maybe starts slow because they're off the
by but like there's no football reason why this game
should be close.
Speaker 3 (01:10:12):
No, no, uh, all Miss George.
Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
Now, I think this is an interesting game because I
like all missed in the game to call. I think
Georgia probably wins, but I think there's a good game.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Uh yeah, I mean I think Georgia's defense has gotten
so much better and we're not giving them credit for that.
It's got a lot better. It's the first oldest game.
Yeah and ever since. Like halftime of the Tennessee game.
Remember remember that game where Tennessee comes out right it's
first half they scored.
Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
Yeah, they were attacking the edges.
Speaker 4 (01:10:48):
Yeah. I don't know what's the the old Miss case
is what like they just they scored up points. I
just think Georgia is better everywhere. I have a better
coaching matchup when out laying being there, I didn't have
a roster advantage. Uh. Georgia does worry me consistently, you know,
consistency on offense worries me. I said, Old Miss defensively
(01:11:09):
is not you know, they're just the reason the reason
game wasn't close there. It is Tolly just turned the
ball over too much till he moved the ball on them.
I think Georgia is just too much for I think
Old this Old Miss team is good, not great. Uh,
there's there's too many flaws to overcome. I think Georgia
has a much better football team. I like, dude, I
like the Ole Miss offense. I think the Old Miss
(01:11:31):
offense because that's it's it's good offense. I mean a
ton of fun. See, they could do it again. You
remember that first game they scored like thirty five points
and then they did score nothing of this in the
fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
I remember the fourth quarter. Yeah, but again, I think
they could score again. I they have three great receivers,
like three like weapons. Lacey's a good back. I just
think their offense is good. I think their offense is
good enough to stress Georgia. Maybe it's I'm not in
love of Georgia's offense, and well, I agree with you.
(01:12:06):
Georgia's defense is better and has been better. It's still
not you know, last year or two years ago. Is
Georgia defense. How much do you think the coaching matchup
matters here?
Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
Were?
Speaker 4 (01:12:21):
You know? I just think yeah, I mean Herbie, I
mean you know, it's a huge advantage for I don't
disc for Georgia here yet.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
I don't disagree. I just think that that side of
the ball keeps it close. Like I told you, I
think Georgia wins, but I think that I think that
on the side keeps the I think that offense we
will put points up and that'll be the difference of
the game. All right, we come back Ducks and Texas Tech.
Speaker 4 (01:12:53):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
Is where is Captain Quack going to go? How will
he make the case that Oregon wins?
Speaker 4 (01:13:05):
It covers? You don't want to miss it, fellas, Hey,
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
Captain Quack cannot right, yeah, he can't wait first before
we dive into the game, because it's going to take
us into uh getting next to that segment of course.
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
How you watching it? Like where you have by myself?
By yourself?
Speaker 4 (01:14:08):
Yeah, my sons and I went downstairs. He said, they're
going to the beach on Tuesdays. I mean, I get
to watch by myself. I got work Monday morning. I'm
on with Brian in the morning here on FSR, So
that'll be fun New Year's Morning, and then I'll just
watch by myself. I mean, it's the twelve Eastern. It's awesome.
So now you're somewhat watch with it. He won't stay home,
(01:14:29):
I'm surprised. No, he's gonna he'll go to the beach.
And he's gonna go to the beach. Yeah, so you'll
be by. Will you make Chinese food? I probably won't
eat during the game. I'll probably be too nervous. Did
you do your chart like I made?
Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:14:43):
I made, I made, I made. I wanted. I wanted.
I wanted to make soup from scratch. But it was
like seventy degrees here. It was kind of like weird,
weirdly hots I just I just didn't unfortunately, but I thought,
I mean I wanted to. I wanted to make some
more stuff. I just I did a bunch of work
this week is awesome. Like this is the thing about
like this time of year, I get I get a
ton of work.
Speaker 7 (01:15:04):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:15:04):
I on Monday, I did five shows on Monday, five
separate like radio podcasts like all that.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
It's it's awesome. So I worked a lot of awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
Yeah, I'm working a lot. Where were you so we
can know, we know we can hear you. I was
all over the place a lot. But Jess Worth smart
than you, Bare Betts, GM Shuffle and the three podcasts
I do, so we do a lot of those. I mean,
the thing is, I you know what I do, and
I'm switching off between you know, college the NFL is
uh not many people can do that, can go from
(01:15:34):
doing an NFL podcast and switching right to college football.
I can handle it. I watched it a lot of football.
You love it.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
I listen.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
I'm with you, buddy, I listen. I I enjoy it
as well. So I appreciate that. All right, let's get
down to business, because yeah, I'm curious to see where
you're at.
Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
I mean, I know why you're going with Oregon, but
how much do you fear Texas Tech so their defense
is really good. They have a lot of elite players
on defense. So it starts with their two defensive ends, right,
And I know their list is outside linebackers, but they
play defensive end. So it's Height and Bailey. They're incredible, right,
(01:16:20):
and then Rigaz is great and Roberts is great at linebacker.
But if you can somehow block them, you have a
chance to throw the ball down the field. And that's
where I think Oregon can can do some things. Look,
this is important, and we talked about this heading on
(01:16:40):
the James Master Game. It's not the same idea because
because Jamie have the same players that Texas Tech does.
But the fact is Texas Tech has not seen a
team remotely close to orgon offensively. That just just hasn't right.
People put to Utah, and Utah can run the ball,
it can't pass the ball. And their offensive structure is
(01:17:00):
not the same thing as organ And so can Oregon
defense bog down? Certainly, it can certainly happen. They play
them with Indiana, But Oregon has seen more comparable defenses
than the other way around, right, And so it's just
a it's a big step up. A competition for advice versa,
like the defense organ has, They're gonna let Texas Tech
(01:17:22):
run the ball and then say no big plays unpassing
the ball, and tex Text offensively just has not scored
a bunch of enough in the red zone. So it's
a close.
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
Like Morton, I'll be honest with you, I like Morton.
I mean, Jacobe Williams can run the ball. But I
think ultimately, I think what you said will decide the game,
which is the Tech secondary is vulnerable. They've never seen
that this and all your receivers are like, you're you're
(01:17:56):
healthy now at the wide receiver spot and uh.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
For the most part, yes, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:18:02):
So like they didn't they didn't play a ton.
Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
In the uh in the that's where I took it.
Speaker 4 (01:18:09):
So I took off. No, No, they're they're they just didn't.
They're healthy, they just didn't. They didn't play a lot
of snaps against Jamie, but they didn't have to. Yeah,
I mean that was kind of my takeaway from that
game that they're they're healthy and they didn't need to play.
But I don't think Texas seen tex Tech has seen
an offense like Oregon down the field, and that's where
(01:18:32):
their secondary I think is vulnerable. I think it is,
and the SU game was the best one for that
because they run the most similar passing concepts that Organ's
gonna run because of you know, the the Kenny Dellingham.
So I'll going forward to him, and I just think, look,
I think a couple of things too, Like Oregon last
(01:18:52):
year obviously did not play well in the in the
playoff game, and I think Dan Lanning spent this year
trying to make sure they peak in this part of
the season, and if you watch their season, that's what
it's led up to, and they're they're trying to peak
(01:19:14):
right now. I think that matters because they played in
this game last year, know what that feels like? Texas
Tech did not they didn't play this game last season.
And then then it's a factor that we have not
discussed enough in this game, is that Oregon sort of
went through this last year and text Teck did not.
I think that that that that does matter, right, And
(01:19:36):
so I'm gonna go forward to it. Man, it should
be funy. I think it's close game. I mean, what's
surprised you with text Teck one. I just like the
way we're playing right now, don't guys. One thing. Don't
could cut up. Don't don't the fourth quarter of scoring
ship by JAMU means absolutely nothing like what they don't.
Don't don't be obtuse. Okay, Organ was up to forty
eight thirteen. They were winning that game, bye bye by plenty.
(01:19:56):
Let's not be obtuse. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
Yeah. The other aspect of that is they need to
fix that piece of it, like you can't have these
teams in the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (01:20:09):
Why well they all do they They put in in
the third middle of third quarter, they put in line
dockers that were red shirting. That's how. That's how they
just did. They did so much funny stuff in the
second half of that game. They used it as a
complete testing ground.
Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
That to me, it means nothing now I know, And
that's why they need to They need to not have
like days don't belong. Cinderell does not live in college football.
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
Oh yes, I agree, they're correct.
Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
I mean when they redo this whole thing, they need
to take that into consideration.
Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
We'll discuss more of that comes straight at hey where
the fell is right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
Listen to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (01:20:50):
Oh that's u.
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
It's good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning, Happy Happy.
Speaker 2 (01:20:56):
Fox Football Saturday now though, like the Saturday between in
the holidays.
Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
Love it. We got the New Year's coming up.
Speaker 4 (01:21:08):
I like when Christmas in New Year's falls like on
a Thursday, because it kills the rest of the week
like it gives us basically two full weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
So I love it and we're in the middle of it. Oh,
it's the great. So everybody's holiday season is going great.
Don't forget. Hey, we love our college basketball bracket challenge
each March, right, we kill it. Well, we decided to
do a bracket challenge for the college football playoff. So
with eight teams left standing in college football, it's bracket
(01:21:44):
Challenge time complete and you can compete against our Fox
Sports Radio host against all your fellow listeners. It seems
got the best college football bracket and you play for
a chance to win a thousand bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (01:21:58):
Visit Fox Sports Radio dot heart dot com the register,
get rules, fill out your bracket. Entry will be opened
up until just before kickoff seven thirty Eastern on the
New Year's Eve game Again, fill you out your brackets
Ohio State, Miami. Fill out your bracket at Fox Sports
Radio dot iHeart dot com.
Speaker 4 (01:22:18):
For your chance to win a grand So it sounds
like you're filling your bracket out. You got Ohio State,
which I would agree, you got Oregon, and then you
got Georgia and Indiana. Yeah, very chalky. I mean, you know,
(01:22:41):
I think I think chalk is legit. Though I think
the chalk I don't smell. I mean, I listen, I
think text tecond win. Sorry, buddy, I mean I think
you know that. So yeah, I think that's the that's
the best of the games. I like Mississippi. I think
Misssippi can garrett Georgia, but ultimately Georgia, you're right, is
(01:23:04):
probably gonna win the game. And then I don't see
anyway Miami beach Ohio State. And then I don't see
Alabama beating Indiana. I mean, I guess Alabama could we
could win, right, because they're very talented. If they played
to their full ability, they certainly could win the game.
(01:23:26):
I don't think they match up welgins Indiana. They don't,
But I think it's I think that I think they
can win the game. I don't think they're going to.
Speaker 3 (01:23:37):
I always like to look at matchups like styles make fights, and.
Speaker 4 (01:23:42):
I don't I don't think they can match I don't
think they match up Welgans Indiana, Like I think Mississippi
matches up better against Georgia than Alabama does Indiana. Yes,
so you know, but I think ultimately Chalk is probably
(01:24:02):
what's going to prevail. Yeah, I mean, I guess Oregon
is chalk only because they're a slight favorite, right, but
I mean that they're the low.
Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
I've really to about the other three games that game
thatch game is I mean Oregon by resume right, like
by yeah, stature like everybody knows how good Orgon is
stature wise.
Speaker 4 (01:24:24):
Texas Tech is a newcomer, so I think it's good.
I was working on this during the break. I saw
a tweet from a Texas Tech person who said that
Oregon and Texas Tech both are they're one and two
nationally in exposive plays on offense, and no one's talking
about Texas Tech being one of those teams. So you
can you know, it's you can find stats very easily read,
(01:24:48):
so I like, you know, say, CFP stats dot com.
So I went and looked up opponent. Okay, opponent twenty
yard plus plays allowed. Okay, so they're supposed to play
fifty yards is exposedive, but we'll go twenty because I
can't find fifteen. Okay, twenty, all right, Texas that if
you include nine conference games plus their tenth game, so
BYU they played twice, right, Oregon played their nine conference
(01:25:10):
games plus James Madison. Texas Tech's offense faced two teams
inside the top fifty in allowing twenty plus yard plays
ASU in UCL So they played a schedule full of
teams that allow supposed to place. Oregon played nine of
ten teams they're into the top fifteen allowing plays the
(01:25:30):
twenty plus yards. That's kind of my point about just
like Oregon's played a much tougher schedule and they've been
tested in ways the techtack has not been tested, and
I think that matters in games when the margins are
really close.
Speaker 2 (01:25:47):
Yeah, I think it's fair. I think it's fair to
look at it in that way. And you know, I
like Tech, Like I told you, I like Morton. I
liked their offense. I mean, obviously they're good.
Speaker 4 (01:26:01):
Their front is so so predicated though on the defense
helping them. They're number on the country and field position,
and they're terrible in the red zone, which is not
good to be terrible the red zone and get any
number on the country in field position. If Oregon cannot
turn the ball over, I think it could be double
digit win if they don't turn the ball over. If
(01:26:22):
they don't turn the ball over, what if Texas text
average field position instead of starting from the thirty seven
whatever it is? Is the is the twenty three? Yeah,
but here's the one. Here's the one thing. Man, I
think you know their front is really good. Yeah, yeah,
I said no, the dns are incredible. Front is nasty, man,
(01:26:46):
You know, a couple. All it takes is one big
negative play to kill a drive. Oh, I don't think
we're scoring a ton of points. I don't think that's
text to the score.
Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Well, when you're hitting me with double digits, I just
gotta side, just gotta slow your.
Speaker 3 (01:26:59):
Roll a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:27:00):
You know, if if they if they don't force any
turnovers and their number of the country and forcing turnovers
and the number one the country and field position on
offense with the offense that can't score in the red zone,
are they going to Texas not going to be you know,
will this be a close game of textics to forces
no turnovers?
Speaker 3 (01:27:20):
I mean, listen, I'm not the biggest stats guy. I've
watched them, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
I like their offense, dude, I mean, yeah, do they
live off of is their defense and that front? Does
that propel them? Is that help their offense? Yeah, I mean,
I mean I think that's obvious. But I think in
the I think it's a game. I don't think it's
a double digit or if we say, if we don't
turn the ball out, I know, I know what you said,
(01:27:47):
I hear, but that's a big part of the.
Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
Yeah. But see, I think it goes beyond just turnovers.
Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
I think that their front is going to provide negative
plays at times, and that will kill drive kill drives plural.
Speaker 4 (01:28:05):
It's a very good test for offensive line. That's that's
really good our tackles. It's gonna good test for them
to face these guys. I think we'll have a good plan,
but I'm kind of curious to see what we do
because we've had games this year we playing their defenses
where we sort of just try to play the ball
control game and not make mistakes and it worked well.
Speaker 3 (01:28:20):
I think attack them down the field man, to be
honest with.
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
Yeah, I think we would take our We'll take chances
when we need to. But I don't know how much
of our game plan will actually be that just watching
them play this so far this season, I think we
have to take shots, but it's not something that we've
done a lot against Iowa Penn State, you know, Like,
but then again, against Iowa, we had no wide receivers,
so that's a big difference. Yeah, I think you need
(01:28:44):
that against them, against their front. I think I think
you're gonna have to move the pocket. I think you're
gonna have to buy time, and I think you're gonna
have to take some shots. I think it's the only
way you're gonna you're gonna soften them up a little bit.
I think you gotta do that. I think that's gonna
be a fun game. Man, that's gonna be a great one. Wait, obviously,
(01:29:08):
and that's the first one on January first, Yeah, the
three that's the first of the three games on New
Year's Day. So how do you see let me ask
it is all right, how do you see it going forward?
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
Like, if you're gonna redo the whole thing, you might
as well redo the whole thing, including the pole season
trying to incorporate to figure out what we're gonna do.
Speaker 4 (01:29:33):
A championship game. The conference championship games are they playings.
There's so much to tackle, but you got and you
gotta you have to do.
Speaker 3 (01:29:42):
It this year. You gotta figure this thing out. I
don't figured out this year.
Speaker 4 (01:29:48):
I think that the playoff folks spand they're gonna make
it to where the the the teams that make it
are gonna be based off conference record and not off
the committee choosing, which is what the Big Ten is
trying to do right where they say like, hey, we're
gonna make it to where you know, the top three
(01:30:10):
teams go, and then we'll have a playing game for
four verse five and therefore the community don't have to
decide you know, who's in who's not in. So I
think we're gonna have expanded playoff. Look, here's the problem
with with the playoff this year. Specifically, the goals we
talked about many times is to make sure the playoff
has all the teams to go in a championship. It's
not a participation tournament. I hate that argument so much. Well,
the G five needs to be involved so they feel
(01:30:33):
like they're they matter. I'm like, let's come on, we're
adults like that, that's a ridiculous thing to say. In sports,
they matter or we need someone to matter. Who come on,
grow up? Right, The point of a championship is to
find is to find a champion, right, And people point
to the March madness and say, well, well, look at
many teams they get in. The mid majors get in there.
(01:30:55):
But guess who also makes it all the teams that
can win a championship. When you leave the other day out,
you're not doing a job you're required to do. You're
not doing the job to have the playoff teams and
they can win a championship. So if if it would
have been if it would have been a Notre Dame
plus ten other teams and then one group of five team,
I think we have no complaints. Of course b Yu
(01:31:17):
fans and Fanny fans will can play. But then you
but you have all the teams they can win a championship,
like all the teams. They don't need checks not win
a championship. But the point is that if you have
Notre Dame in the tournament, every team they can win
a championship is in. And we don't talk about this,
but the fact is the tournament did not get Notre
Dame in, and that's where the problem is. So I
think that they correct that, and obviously it is absolutely
(01:31:38):
ridiculous the Notre Dame, it gets a free spot in
the tournament if they're in the top twelve. That has
to be fixed. That that that to be is insane.
You know, think about this. I know USC they're they're
soft and weak for cancering the series with Notre Dame.
But I get some of it because imagine this. Imagine
USC were to beat Notre Dame. Okay, but you and
(01:31:59):
USC is right eleventh and their name is right twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
Yeah, they have to get in.
Speaker 4 (01:32:03):
They would get in, which is again like that's just
absolutely crazy. So I think that eventually we expand a
little bit, so everyone gets in who's supposed to get in.
So you don't think it happened. You don't think it
happens this year where they expand. I thought they can't
do it for next year. I thought the time limit
passed or is that not true? I don't I don't know.
I don't want to talk. I don't want to say
anything wrong. So again, I think that's where we end
(01:32:25):
up eventually. But I don't know if what happens this year.
I don't buy the dude, I just don't buy this
argument that like the G five has to be in
because they have to feel included. Since when is that
a thing? In controotball?
Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
I went to Honestly, I don't think they belong period.
They don't stack up on the field. How many times
you want to see this if you can't? Was a
joke last week? I mean those games were jokes.
Speaker 4 (01:32:53):
Did you know that that UCF once beat Auburn and
a Meles's Bowl game? It happened one time that I
love people are like, are like Hawaii, be cal see
group of five? What does that do with anything? Disingenuous
argument is that yards a jmu. I mean, the problem is,
and it's ridiculous, but you can't stack up defensively. You
(01:33:18):
don't have defronts or just ran by James Madison they
were a top twenty defense. They just would like, well,
congratulations on that. We're just gonna run right by you.
I mean maybe so one one is fine. Two is ridiculous,
and I think that may tie all of them. I
think that's where we're going. But also to like again,
(01:33:39):
I went to Oregon. When I went to Oregon in
two thousand and four, I did not think the only
way I felt like I was participating againting inclusion was
making a playoff. I look or row like. The fact
was like I wanted to make a Rose Bowl, like once,
you know, if we make one Rose win ten games, Like,
There's plenty of ways to be successful without making a playoff,
And the idea that the only way you can be
success is having inclusion of the playoff, to me is
(01:34:02):
really backwards thinking. And the idea again that like you
include the little guys I feel like they know you don't.
You don't because they're not playing the same sport as
Organ's playing or Old Miss is playing, and to pretend
they are, to me is disingenuous and you know better.
You know better, JAMU going twelve and one and playing
(01:34:22):
the Pop Tarts Bowl is incredible season. They don't need
to play a playoff game for there to be an
incredible season. So I just think everyone is lying to
themselves about what this is actually about, which is finance champion. Yeah, well,
you have to also understand the nature of the sport
and with the trenches mean to the sport, Like what
(01:34:44):
are we kidding ourselves? I hate it.
Speaker 3 (01:34:48):
I hate it, hate it because I.
Speaker 4 (01:34:51):
Think it's just nonsense and there's no reason for it,
like like let me cry for Notre Dame. But everyone
has to be involved in they do, you know that
has to be involved. They need to whack up this
whole thing into two leagues like an A and to B.
(01:35:13):
And in the A is you know Big ten SEC.
Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
Let them swallow up the ACC and the Big twelve,
and you got the two conferences like the A f
C and the NFC.
Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
They then put them into.
Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
Divisions so we don't have this ridiculous nonsense of USC
playing Rutgers. Right, So they're all divisions, they're all under
two conferences. You don't want to go with sixty teams.
Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
I don't know if.
Speaker 4 (01:35:42):
And then the other half has its B League and
then that's the B League. They play in the separate
league with a separate championship. And then you can cross
poul Nayton toward the balls. You can have relegation that
the bottom of the A League. Incredible, like the bottom
(01:36:03):
of the A League then goes to the B League,
like you know, a Clemson got relegated.
Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
I'm just throwing it out there, you know, like you
could have that. That's interesting. I got it.
Speaker 2 (01:36:14):
But you still have this B League. TV will still
televise it, people will still watch it. They'll still be
like you bet on it, right, So it will it
will be interesting. I think you add incredible. I think
having the A to B League, just like you know,
European soccer having you know, the buddhest League and the
(01:36:37):
Seria and the Plain.
Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
It's more about the English Premier leaue right where you
have these level I'm mixing my metaphors of champions. Yeah,
it's like I didn't I didn't see that coming.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
I've grown to really like it, you know, really like
I didn't grow up with it, but I grew up.
I grew with to really like fascinated. We're having the
World Cup, so I've been uh we have We're hope
for a little city.
Speaker 4 (01:37:06):
Yeah. So I'm on the board of help out with
the with World Cup going to Phillies, I'm like excited
by it. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:37:16):
Yeah, it's a great chance.
Speaker 4 (01:37:17):
For the world to see our Is the jail going
to be opening the link for that?
Speaker 3 (01:37:21):
Are they going to close the say you gotta go there? Huh?
Speaker 4 (01:37:25):
Open. You gotta take cheap shots, Santa Santa Claus. I
just even though it's a raggedy at Sanna, are you
are you in charge of the Are you in charge
of the jail? In charge of the jail? I want
to know.
Speaker 3 (01:37:42):
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm in charge of the jail.
Speaker 4 (01:37:45):
Hey, I put you in, you'd be good warden. Did
you remember the vat Yeah, I didn't play the but
I remember the bet of course. Yeah. The link doesn't
have a ja right, the ve just had one right holding.
Speaker 3 (01:38:02):
Had the jail link didn't have the jail.
Speaker 4 (01:38:05):
No, but yeah, that's uh, yeah, I mean I'm making
sure that I was like the Coyle See, I'm like
the Roman Coliseum. I just want to make sure. Yeah,
I mean, besides, it was just a cookie cutter stadium
like the rest of them. For that.
Speaker 3 (01:38:19):
It was ugly.
Speaker 4 (01:38:20):
Yeah, it was ugly, but it was it was concrete
and it was a jungle. I mean it was a
horrible place. I don't think I I think I was
too old to play any of the cookie Cutters. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:38:31):
Uh, Cincinnati Saint Louis.
Speaker 4 (01:38:39):
Yeah I missed. Uh did you did you see you
saw I missed Candlestick three rivers, right, you you had
had Hinsfield. Yeah, and I was, and I never made
it to the U Candlestick, so I never I have
to tell you all the cost cutters that was still there. Well,
(01:39:02):
Candlestick wasn't a cookie cutter, well it was. It was
the multi use stadium that was like the other ones.
It was like, it's like Oaklan Cllsbut okaholla, see that's
not cooking.
Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
What's kind of the same thing. That's Candlestick in that.
Speaker 4 (01:39:14):
Lobby to which used to be the the multi use
stadium too in Miami.
Speaker 3 (01:39:20):
The But of all the cookie cutters, those kind of
ones that were built in the seventies.
Speaker 4 (01:39:25):
Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Saint Louis, Saint Louis and and you guys,
I mean does does does Jack Restalls? Pittsburgh, does Quail
coom Count? It does? Right, I think it's a cookie cutter.
It was a multipurpose, but it was insane. There was
a multipurpose, it wasn't. It wasn't that that style.
Speaker 2 (01:39:43):
The architecture that was those places were awful and the
only one that was actually Pittsburgh because I remember covering
a game at the end of three rivers, and it
was it was awsome, like you know Steelers terrible towels.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
It was pretty it was pretty cool, like for what
it was.
Speaker 4 (01:40:08):
I despise that these outdoor teams are moving to domes.
I hate it with every fiber of my being that
the Chiefs, the Browns, the Bears are all moving inside.
I think it's not what football for football to put
outside on grass. You're losing a home foot advantage if
(01:40:29):
you if you do this for what the Chiefs are
gonna get one super Bowl that's it. They're not getting two,
are not getting three. Are getting one. Like they're like,
we'll get playing. They're getting one. About Detroit got one,
Minnesota got one. I think it is I to to
there's no offense to any cold weather city, but to
(01:40:51):
be a Super Bowl team and have to go stay
a week in a cold weather city, I think is
ridiculous and not fair to the team who's in the
Super Bowl, Like why would you know?
Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
I agree, I don't think they. I think they need
to be in destination cities. So you know, Miami, California.
Speaker 4 (01:41:11):
Atw Orleans, Tampa, like I've I've been to now like
a Vegas you go to Vegas. Vegas was fine. Vegas
was just it's just like, I don't the strip. I'm
tired of staying on the strip. Vegas is just kind
of like annoying to get around. But it's a good
it's a good host city. Obviously. I've been to like
seven years in years and run now like the one
(01:41:31):
in Minnesota was miserable because you're just nigga fifteen degrees outside,
Like what, that's terrible. I want to go to Arizona.
I want to go to Miami, which was a ton
of fun. I agree, you know, I I agree, Like
I have this argument all the time here because they're
gonna put a dome and here in my town and
I'm against it, and I should be.
Speaker 2 (01:41:51):
I mean, Jeffrey Lowie is going to do it, and
you know, the argument for it is, hey, we're you know,
we'll get super Bowls and she doubles.
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
I agree with you. It's singular, right, It's that's what
it is. And as much as I love my town,
I mean, it's not it's not like super Bowl town,
like it's Cannon. They should be in destination town. So
I'm with you, gonna take quick to you. We'll come
back anfl on the docket. We will go through all
the games today tomorrow, give you some picks. Get you
(01:42:23):

doing your thing and happy and healthy and all that
(01:43:05):
big weekend of football. As you guys well know, the
playoff picture is just about set. The only thing that
we need to know is Carolina tamp in reality, Panthers
win and a Bucks loss or a Panthers tying a
(01:43:25):
Bucks loss.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
We'll clinch it for Carolina.
Speaker 7 (01:43:29):
Yes, so that's gonna happen on Sunday, but we will
find out. Yeah, that's why they play the games, all right,
So let's look at what we got.
Speaker 4 (01:43:39):
You kind of go through some of the and I'll
give you the brains picks coming up because he texted
me to brain he's in Vegas right now. The brain
nice Texans and Chargers today, Chargers one and a half
over to Texans again. I'm riding Houston. I love that defense.
I want to ride him again. I like the under
(01:44:01):
a lot in this game, under thirty nine and a half,
so I would ride with the under this one. If
I had to pick, I would pick up probably probably
the Texans too. Yeah, yeah, I just think that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:14):
Don't think Chargers having luff offensively.
Speaker 4 (01:44:19):
We'll find out, won't we. I think I think the
tackles are gonna are gonna feast. I think there's like
a sack prop like total sacks for this game. I
think the Texans are gonna after Herbert mister Anderson. Another
big day, Uh, Ravens and Packers is the night game. Uh,
(01:44:40):
I just think I know no Jordan Love, no Lamar Jackson.
I think that. I just think the Ravens are sort
of dead right now. So I would certainly lean here
toward the the the home team here and the Packers
too much. The Peacock game, Oh yeah, I'll probably be
peacock and myself to sleep early, so it's fun with me,
(01:45:04):
all right.
Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
Uh, Tomorrow here's the slate Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Where you
at with the Steelers?
Speaker 4 (01:45:15):
My man, I actually think that in this game. I
think the Browns could win this game a couple of reasons.
One is, this game might not matter at all if
the Ravens lose tonight, the Steelers win the division. That's
it division? Yeah, so how much you know what are
(01:45:36):
they going to be playing for in this game against Cleveland?
Cleveland actually doesn't play terribly against the Steelers at home recently.
But this is also this is also just the exact
moment to bet against Pittsburgh, right when they're a road
favorite off a big win against the Lions, Like this
(01:45:56):
is a prime bet against Mike Tommlan And so I
like the Browns cover this game? You Wiingling and the Jets? Yeah,
I mean pass? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:46:15):
How about this barn Burner? The Saints and the Titans.
Speaker 4 (01:46:22):
The known Saints defense actually playing pretty well right now,
like the last five weeks or like top five and deficiency.
It's kind of crazy, and I don't trust the Saints
on the road at all. Uh, So I would stay
away from this game. I think I would probably back
Tannacy if I had to. Saints actually playing better football man.
(01:46:43):
Football Shuck has played well. Yeah, he's played race had some,
he had some. He's had a nice run over the
last six weeks. He's played good football man. Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
Uh, all right, Jaguars and Colts. Trevor Lawrence, Sunshine man.
He told me about a stretcher playing well. Sunshine's bawling
out by Sunshine.
Speaker 4 (01:47:16):
I think that the cults are dead as well. So
this is sort of like an opportunity for the for
the Jaguars to sort of nail the coffin with the
culture they look. They just they're not good on defense.
We talked about this for weeks now. Combine that with
the Jacksonville defense is good. It's a good defense, And
(01:47:38):
I did think they're going to really make life really
miserable for Philip Rivers in this game. So I will
gladly take the Jaguars to cover this game, all right.
Tampa and Miami Cors. I mean, I think I would
look at Miami to cover this game before I look
anything for him doing anything else in this game. Tampa Bays,
(01:48:02):
we talked about last week. If they've lost six to seven,
they're not playing good football. Nothing about them screams like
They're gonna go to Miami and win this game and
play really well. So I would certainly take Miami or nothing. Quinn,
yours will not play as bad. There were some unlucky
things happened last week, So I don't know how you
feel about this one, but that's that's why I look
at it.
Speaker 3 (01:48:22):
Well, I think Tampa is gonna win the game.
Speaker 4 (01:48:26):
Probably, I agree, but I think the way they I mean,
they need to beat the Falcons two weeks ago too.
I mean, they need to do a lot of things.
They just haven't done it in the last month the season,
which is why I'm worried about them. Yeah, I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:48:38):
Well, and then uh and then next week is the rematch.
Speaker 4 (01:48:44):
So that's looking like Sunny night football by the way. Yeah,
so they put a game on. They put a game
on on Saturday nights now too, So do you think
the Okay, I'm asking this question if the NFL had
to choose Okayday Night the Sunday night game Niners Seahawks
for the one seed, which is possible right if the
(01:49:06):
Seahawks and Iers both win this weekend, or they putting
on women get in Panthers bucks. I mean, I love
the women get in, so do I and they always
sort of like they've always sort of like that's always
sort of been their default, right, the winning get in game. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:49:25):
So years ago it was like the Rams and the Seattle.
Speaker 4 (01:49:32):
Or yeah, and then they had to play at the
one yard lines and the game yes, yes, yes, yeah,
I love I love that too. I just I don't
think the beginning of the year that the TV executives
would have pictured Bucks Panthers would be the Week eighteen
game on Saturday Night. But I think I think you're right.
Speaker 3 (01:49:49):
I think it needs to be.
Speaker 5 (01:49:51):
I do.
Speaker 3 (01:49:54):
Gunn Thomas lived in a big Carolina fan.
Speaker 4 (01:49:57):
I know the NFL try is their best to get
to Week eighteen where the games matter, and they're gonna
have a zero game. I mean they're gonna have They're
gonna end up having what the NFC South game matter
And if the Niners win this weekend against Chicago, then
the than the one seed will matter. But the Niners
lose on Sunday, you essentially have well take that back.
(01:50:22):
You can have the AFC West too. The Chargers win today,
then next weekends for the AFC West as well, so
you can have eight. So but again if the Texans win,
the Packers win, and the Bears win. You have one
game that matters next week and and that's the and
that's it. Like that's like the worst case even even.
Speaker 3 (01:50:44):
Now, like these games don't me am Like Christmas Day
was a waste.
Speaker 4 (01:50:50):
It really was like the lines were playing for something.
But yes it was.
Speaker 3 (01:50:53):
I mean where they playing, they haven't real chance. They
mean they were a dead team walking they.
Speaker 4 (01:51:00):
I don't agree with any of that. I'm just saying
there was like it was an.
Speaker 2 (01:51:02):
Awful game to watch prosmer. I mean the only game
that was decent to watch was Washing in Dallas. Like
that was that was decent for.
Speaker 4 (01:51:12):
Both defensive stinks. Can they play?
Speaker 3 (01:51:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:51:14):
Right? Yeah. The game to watch this weekend though is
Giants Raiders because this will determine the one seed in
the NFL. And we often talk about tanking, and I
talk all the time about how tanking is not something
that's done on Sunday, not done on game day. It's
(01:51:35):
done during the week by roster moves and both teams.
I've put everyone injured reserve this week to the point
where Max Crosby is like opening openly questioning the Raiders'
decision not to play him this week. I love this
game so much, Anthony. I love that both teams are
just tanking in the best way possible, because then I think,
(01:51:55):
I think on Sunday tomorrow, I ain't Pete Carroll's gonna
try to win this game. He's gonna ruin all the Raiders' plans.
Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
And yeah, I can see that. I could totally see that.
I could see that. I don't. I love Max too, he.
Speaker 4 (01:52:12):
Needs to be somewhere else. Yeah, I would, I would.
I wouldn't be surprised how Rosman made some calls this offseason. Yeah,
uh all right.
Speaker 2 (01:52:21):
Finally, speaking of Howie, Eagles and Bills as the Big
four to twenty five game. Both teams are gonna play,
so you'll see Hurts and Josh. It's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (01:52:34):
That's it. That's a good game.
Speaker 4 (01:52:37):
It's a good game. So here is Uh the Bills
defense is really bad? Okay? Yeah, like they allowed the
Browns allow everyone to score points. I think Eagle's gonna
win this game. They're the best, they're the better well
around the team. If their offense can operate like they
should against this bad Bills team. Like if you give
(01:52:58):
sakuon Barkley thirty five, You're probably gonna be okay. Lane
Johnson is back, I believe right, Yeah, is Carter back yep,
So everyone's back. I think Buffalo is gonna struggle to
move the ball in this game. I think the Eagles
defense will dictate the Yeah, because they're not going to
be able to run like Cook's not. Like the Eagles
defense is at ben but don't break on their fangio.
(01:53:21):
I know that the anomaly was the Bears game on
Black Friday, where they give up over tourny yards rushing.
The usually doesn't happen. So I don't think Cook runs
wild long and if they don't, that off to favors
the the I think Eagles are the team. I think
he goes go on the road to win this game.
Speaker 1 (01:53:39):
I do.
Speaker 2 (01:53:41):
That should be fun, it's good, it's it should be
a good game. At least, here's a four to twenty five.
We'll come back, We'll we'll wrap it up. Some more picks,
everything else, fellas hanging out all Fox Sports Radio
