Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hello, Hello, Hello, Happy Saturday Satury.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Yay.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
I like that.

Speaker 4 (00:10):
It's also show Saturday, which we can get to in
a second. But Tracy Sandler here with Nikki Ka back
with you for the next couple hours to talk all
things in the world of sports.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
A tree, It is a tree.

Speaker 5 (00:22):
Happy July. Happy, everything is happy today always. I love that.
I love that.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
How was your week? Week was great?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
I really enjoy this time of the year because it
is a catcher breath moment. I mean, as always, things
are happening in the sports world, but it's a little
bit of you know, time to focus on things that
like Wimbledon, the American Century Classic going on in Tahoe,
just sports that celebrate.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
The essence of summer.

Speaker 5 (00:49):
I like that, boy, this time of year, the essence
of summer. That's that's lovely.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
I am sure week.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
My week was good on a personal professional level, good, great,
nothing to complain about, just you know, a little bit
of a tough week for Dodger fans.

Speaker 5 (01:04):
Oh yeah, seven seven loss calamity.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
In fact, I've asked that they put the Dodger game
on in here, and because I'm apparently I'm a glutton
because it's just I can't masochistic mass. I might like
to say seven game losing streak. It's it's tough, but
today is show day. Show Heo Toni's starting for the
Dodgers at Oracle Park.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Some good takeaways.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
From last night's gain.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
The loss, but they were down eight to two, battled
back to make it eight to seven. At least they're
hitting again, but their leading the division has gone from
nine to four in a week.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
And don't love that?

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Where is your panic meter?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I mean, I'm always intrigued with baseball fans because obviously
the season is very long, and yet the course of
one hundred and sixty two games, I mean game losing
streak doesn't seem that calamitous. Yes, but I mean, how
how do you digest this sort of skid?

Speaker 4 (01:53):
The reporter in me who doesn't cover the do the
reporter of me says they're gonna be fine. Tyler Glass
pitchwell the other day, so that action totally assuming that stays.
They're supposed to get Blake Snell back after the All
Star break, Blake trying to so there'll be some help
in the arms. I think Dusty May should probably end
up going to the bullpen, but that might be a

(02:14):
conversation for another time. So in that regard, I'm like,
they're gonna be fine. They're gonna be fine.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
You're literally the dog sitting sorry, you're the dog meme
sitting with the flame.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
That's basically me. That's me as the reporter. Okay, the
fan in me is like, they're never gonna win another
game again in the rest of the franchise, and I
don't know what to do about it because I can't
do anything about it. And why aren't the shirts that
normally work working? And so there's like two It's like
like angel devil but not. But there's two parts of me.
I'm trying to listen to the reporter in me, but

(02:44):
the fan in me is very passionate, as you all know.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
I mean, I think the undulation, the roller coaster of
those sorts of emotions is what makes being a fan
so great.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
I tend to look at it, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
With the zoomed out view and okay, seven game losing streak,
I know it's uh a little setting new records for
the Dodgers in terms of I forget when the last
it's been years.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
It's been years well, and I'm not so concerned about
the losing. They're gonna win games, like I'm not worried
about that. I think what's concerning in the losing streak
is the lack of being able to hit.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
It was it was as if as old as time like,
and it was so cold.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
It was as if, in a show of solidarity, the
entire team was like, well, if you're slumping, I'll slept
with you too, when we could all swump together. But
you know, that was the stuff that was more concerning
the pitching. Some of the pitching has been concerning. I
think it's more those things to me than the actual
losing streak. That being said, as you said, it's a
long season. We are heading into the All Star Break,
which we will be talking more about throughout the show.

(03:43):
These next few months are gonna be the most important.
I think the Dodgers will be fine. I think the
Dodgers will win the Division the very high likelihood they're
back in the World Series. It's just this week. They're
just some areas of concern. But that being said, there
are other teams in the major leagues, not that I
focus a lot on.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
Them, but there are teams of major leagues.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
We're heading into the All Star break, just giving a
quick little rundown of where we are. Al Central, the
Tiger's leading Ale East, the Blue Jays are leading al West,
the Astros are leading, which was a bit of.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
A surprise for people.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Obviously, the Dodgers lead in the West, Cubs Central, Phillies
in the East.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
So as you look at this.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
All Star break and the trade deadline coming just two
weeks after the All Star break, who are you looking
at as your sellers and your buyers?

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Nikki?

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Right, Well, I really focused on a couple of teams that,
you know, particularly had momentum, and I think and then
when it came to a certain player, I mean who
really stood out to me is what are the Diamondbacks
going to do.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
With Uhennio Suarez?

Speaker 2 (04:46):
And I think the perfect landing spot for him will
be in the Bronx. Oh it makes sense, right, I
think the Yankees could be making a move for Suarez.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
It depends how much.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
They're asked to shell out, Right, are you going to
give up, you know, like a young prospect in Cam
Schlitler and you know, jeopardize some of your future, which
a lot of Yankees fans.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Are love this this prospect.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
At what point do you do that to bolster you know,
your your bats, and so I don't know, what do
you what do you think the Yankee should do?

Speaker 5 (05:25):
I think so.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
I think the Yankees' issues are not one right. They
could be one player away. But I think going back
to the World Series that we saw the Yankees issues
and I think have been issued throughout the season too. Fundamentally,
they're just not that strong. You know, they make mistakes
that they shouldn't make, and they had quite a losing streak,
and you know, New York fans are super calm, so
like it wasn't a big deal, but they had a

(05:50):
losing streak.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I was out in the bleachers, like for the Comedy
of Errors, it was in the Bronx.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
It was.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
It was very interesting to observe. I'm sure that it was.
But I think for the same token, the Yankees are
still a win now team with the talent that they have,
and I think they have to be buyers and I
think they have to they have to push their chips
in and even the fans may like the prospect, Yankee
fans also like winning now. So I would say there

(06:20):
I think they make the move. I think they kind
of have.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
To and okay, okay, okay, and I especially with the
shakeout in the al right now, right, it's like if
they if they need to continue the momentum and you know,
patch up some things in the interim, then you you
make a move like that. I wouldn't be surprised. A
couple of other teams I was looking at in terms
of just their needs in terms of their starting pitching,

(06:45):
the Blue Jays, the Cubs, So I'd be intrigued to
see if they bolster their rotation here before the end
of July.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
I would be too, because some of the teams, because
as we've talked about multiple times just in the last
few minutes, it's a long season, and sometimes teams that
are surprise teams in the first half do kind of
go down in the second half because it is a
long season. And the reason they're surprise teams because it
didn't feel like necessarily the talent was there. But you're
talking about two teams that have talent who are right there,

(07:16):
right And if the Blue Jays want to stay on
top of the Yankees, and I think they can, they're
going to have to do some things in their rotation.
So I agree with you. I think it's it's going
to be interesting to see there. And you know, it's
like I look go ahead please.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Oh no, no, no, I was I was saying, I was,
I was doing some reading. I forget.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
I apologize to the reporter who suggested it, But Mitch
Keller out of the Pirates organization could be a great
addition to the Blue Jays rotation. So I don't know,
just like looking at matches and potential fits, it's like
speaking of another meme. It's like looking at the board
where you know, oh yeah, you know, we're speaking in
memes where the guys got all the numbers.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Yeah, ming around right.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
So it's it's fun to think of like the perfect
trade machine matches.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
I like to imagine that that's what it's like in
front offices right before the trade deadline for any sport.
Just like all the the faces and the names, like
like a Facebook, like before Facebook, like actual face books
with all the pictures, like way back in.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
The olden DA the pictures up and all of that.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
But you brought up the Pirates, which I think are
interesting because the Pirates have argued not arguably like one
of the two best pictures in baseball right now. They're
not giving him up, but what if someone comes in
with some insane trade for skins.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
They can't do it though, right I don't know, but
they need to do better by him. It's a dream.
It's a shame his win lost record. And I remember
we were talking about.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
This even a couple of weeks ago, and it's like,
what we gotta we got to figure out his era
right now, because I know how rare it is for
a picture to have what sub two e.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
Yes, I'm asking my best friend chat SHEBT for the exact.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Number, and this is great radio right now.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
No, but I'm two point oh one.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Okay, So he's just over to right now. But it's
still he's excellent. And it's such a disservice it is
to the league, to sportsman like de Pittsburgh fans.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
But so here's a question that is an interesting one
for debate, and I think there will be both sides
of it. Would doing right by him be sending him
somewhere where he will be surrounded by pieces that could
make him win a World Series.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Or being a better organization and bring it right.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Yeah, that's the other side, do you or is doing right?
I think it's probably the ladder, but I don't know
that the latter happens quickly enough to really do right
by him, But I could be wrong.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
It's it's not a sport like basketball, where it is,
you know, so evident that you get that key piece,
not one key piece, and then you build forward with
that one player.

Speaker 6 (10:01):
Right.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I think I feel like baseball is a little bit
different because it is one side of the game, right,
you know, and you like you said that transformation the
rebuild can't be you know, snap of a finger.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
No, it can't be, but it would It definitely can't be.
It's interesting. It is one side of the game, but
it's such an important side that if he went to
he went somewhere that needed to bolster rotation and everything.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
Else around him works. Then giving up what are they
giving up?

Speaker 4 (10:29):
But then he I think he is one of those
players that makes difference because I as we talked about
the beginning of the show, the Dodgers scored seven runs
last night and lost. Yeah, you know, so I'm not
saying he's going there because there's no chance they would
let that happen.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
But but you if.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
You don't want to be in a position where your
team has to score more than seven runs to win
and tap it to the Dodgers a lot. So it
just means that, I think for a team that just
needs that that ace or that second ace, the person
that they Now, I.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Don't know what the package is. I want to know
what the pot It would.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
Have to be so tremendous, right, like you might have
to like throw it at home.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Yeah. Like, and plus I got a vacation property. I
got a vacation an island. I have an island. I'm
willing to throw in the mix.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Yeah, I mean, and you also well said, got you
a really cute dog, Like, I mean, There's so many
things that would have to be in that package.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
But I don't know.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
This is just something that I was thinking about and
I was curious about and wanted wanted your thoughts on
another team. I'd like your thoughts on the Detroit Tigers
have been so much fun and are killing it.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Is it sustainable? I think so? I think so.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I think the momentum that we've seen them, it's not
a fluke, right right. And I love that you keyed
into them being just fun because that is exactly so
fun brand of baseball they bring. I got a question
for you, are you a do you.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Sit and watch the All Star Game?

Speaker 7 (11:54):
Like?

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Is that appointment viewing for you?

Speaker 8 (11:56):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Usually it is, yes, I'm going to miss some of
it this week, so I'll be on my way back
from a conference okay in Las Vegas.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
But usually it is.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
I really I like watching the All Star Game, not
just to see the guys that I love. And I
don't want anyone to think that I voted like a
bunch of times for every Dodger. Obviously I would not, no,
nor I would not go on the five times allowed
to do that except the one outlier being Cody Vellinger.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Like that, how many how many emails do you have
registered for your fan vote?

Speaker 4 (12:23):
You're you're allowed five is one person? So I just
I cap it at that.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
Ike it at.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
So Cody Vellinger and the Dodgers all all got my votes.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
But I liked also watch players that I don't really
get to see.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
That right, and it is All Star games always remind
me of like the Avengers.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Yes, it's totally what it is. And did you you
saw that they're going.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Back to the uniforms where players get to represent their
hometown team.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
I love that. I love that. That's that's like proper
nostalgia returning. So I I have to say, I don't.
I don't normally like be like, oh my god, it's
MLB All Star.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
I'm out to tune in. I did love it when
it was in LA. I thought that was really fun.
It is kind of like, you know, the biggest names
all coming together. It's it's a great celebration.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
And I yeah, so maybe, I mean maybe considering time
of summer, why not.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
Well, you're taking a breath.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Yeah, you can take a breath and watch the game's
greatest players.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
That's my that.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
By the way, if anyone's listening, should be the tagline,
Ladies and gentlemen, take a breath while you watch baseball's
greatest players as they also looking at this Detroit uh
Tiger's broadcaster is a fan who's attended three hundred and
seventy one consecutive home games.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
Oh wow, that is amazing.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
I don't know if I've ever committed to anything for
that long.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
That is that is incredible.

Speaker 4 (13:45):

on YouTube. Nikki, while we were in the break show, Hey,
Tony struck out the site the first in San Francisco.
So that is some fun and exciting news.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Did the home where he hit yesterday in Oracle Park
sending it into mcoby Cove? Did you see the guy
who dove out of his kayak to get that ball?

Speaker 5 (15:31):
I did not.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Oh my gosh, glory all glory in the lifefest in
the water holding up the ball.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
You know I would I would jump into why not.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
To get potentially jump in, right, I think? Who am
I kidding?

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Of course I would just tip a roll out the
kayak get that ball.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
I mean that's iconic behavior.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
It is iconic behavior for an icon Yeah, so there
you go. NFL training camps are just.

Speaker 5 (15:54):
Over a week away.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Wow, which is we're back Banana's chargers rookies reported to
Day by the way, so they're they're the first ones.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Most a harbor. That's a harborall moment.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
Definitely a harbor moment.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
A lot of other teams report Tuesday, for excuse me,
and a lot of other teams. Rookies report on Tuesday
with everybody else the folly week. So although we have
been in our NFL break, there's still been some news
and we're.

Speaker 5 (16:18):
We're almost back.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
So some news this week.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
Reporting that the Bears will be extending general manager Ryan Poles,
which I find I have conflicting emotions on well, emotions.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Workshop this because I went back and forth. Okay, I'd
like to workshop this.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
I think on the one hand, bad teams stay bad
by constantly making changes too soon. Now they have had
to make a lot of coaching changes. They went through
quite the search this offseason. I mean, the we knew
they were going to get but they end up with
Ben Johnson. They did a lot to improve the offensive
line for quarterback Caleb Williams, but the Bear have severely

(17:01):
underperformed and not been given the tools to perform well
so far under Poles.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
So I'm I don't know.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
I'm back and forth on this, like was it a
good move or not a good move?

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Right?

Speaker 2 (17:12):
And I get a little confused at the thought of
an extension right because right now there has been no
proof in the process, and you look at the Bears
record under Poles.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
They've had two ten game losing streaks.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
It's not great, right And at the same time, I
did end up on a Bear's Reddit thread, you know,
as one Bears fans reddit thread.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
And someone was you know, adamantly defending.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
The you know, like you said, you don't want to
make changes too soon and Poles being brought in at
the start of a four year plan in twenty twenty two.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
This is now year four.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
But he had to you know, navigate through a lot
of junk. Yes, yes, he did to kind of clear
the table reset and we know that doesn't happen overnight.
Yet at the same time, there has been no proof
his process is processing.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
His process is processing. So that my thing was like
did they have to extend him? I think he had
two years left on the deal, so it was interesting
and I could be off a year, but it was
interesting to be that they felt the need to extend him,
but they did it.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Also, I wonder if it's a move, like a sign
to Ben Jonson, like this is stability, Yeah, this is comfort.
You know, it could be just an indicator being like
we are a stable franchise now. We have consistent leadership
or a plan for consistent leadership moving forward. Maybe that's
where this is coming from. Nonetheless, it is a little
bit of a head scratcher.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
It is, so, I mean, we'll see what happens.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
I actually feel that the Bears have a chance to
improve a season. Like I said, they did a lot
to improve their offensive line, which will be helpful for
poor k Leib Williams, who was basically running for his
life on every play last season.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
But this one will be interesting.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
It's just if the Bears have another very disappointing season,
what happens. But they're also going to a brand new
coach and so it's it's not going to be magic,
probably your one.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
So we'll see.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
We'll see.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Anyways, I thought I thought that was some interesting news,
and I like that we've workshopped it. I don't know
that we came to a conclusion. I think the conclusions
that we would not have done it.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Yeah, I don't own it.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
I mean, like you said, seeing the results, But it's like,
why offer an extension when you haven't seen any results?

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Right, it's there to extend. That's like, that's we are.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
So not in the results oriented business.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
That we'd like to extend that forward exactly exactly.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
So Eli Manning.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Made me laugh this week where I mean not honestly,
but he he said no to an ownership stake in
the Giants. He said it was too expensive for him,
which I get two thousand percent. I mean I feel like,
you know, Hall of Fame quarterbacks, they're just like us.
So it's still kind of made me laugh because when
we talk about results, I thought like, if the Giants
had been really good the last few years, when we

(20:03):
felt literally I.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Also liked part of his reasoning.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
He said I couldn't be able to talk to players
that he coached in the Pro Bowl and it would
affect my day job, said Manning, talking about the man cast.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
Yeah, oh that's it.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Well, I mean that's a very that's fair because the
Manning I think I speak for everyone when one could
say the man in cast is currently way more successful
than you were Giants, I don't want to be unkind,
she said it.

Speaker 5 (20:30):
I did, Well, I don't.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
I mean, I think it's like a fact. Yeah, I
do you even think it's an opinion? I think it's
right now, it's a full fact. So I would not
want to give up the man cast either or not
be able to have certain players on because of my
ownership stake in that specific team.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
That is my feeling.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
If it's kind of a funny story, I don't even
know if he was seriously considering it on.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
I mean, but this is a funny story.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yes, it's great.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Then of course it's the headline because he's like, it's
a polite line.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
It's a noe for me. You two super bowls. I'm
not giving you my money exact, which I think is fair.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Then we had another story this week, the kind of
stuff that comes up in the off season. We had
a fireworks incident with Nischie Harris the Chargers, who has
an eye injury.

Speaker 5 (21:15):
Apparently he will be ready for the season.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
This is my home. Fireworks are no joke? Can we
can we not do them anymore?

Speaker 4 (21:25):
I mean it's shades of twenty fifteen and jump here, Paul.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Right and the fire I mean, really, guys.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Why and I think yes it was Fortunately Nag's not.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
Jason here, Paul, thank you very much. What did I
say to Sean?

Speaker 3 (21:40):
He will he will make the rule? It was twenty fifteen?
It was he.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Will make a recovery, which is great, but it's I
heard someone funny being like, you know his eyes were
closed because the firework was coming at him.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
I don't, I don't know, it's just it's just.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
I just I think we need to not do the
at home fireworks, especially if you are an NFL player.

Speaker 5 (22:03):
With this season looming just a couple weeks.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Away, we have to start putting that in contract clauses
now because I know, you know some athletes, like when
you go to play in college or something, you're not
allowed to go skiing or snowboarding or do you know,
extreme activities.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
So now is there going to be a fireworks clause?

Speaker 5 (22:19):
I think there has to be.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
You will because you will not be in a ten
yard radius of any home fireworks.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Because of Jason Pierre Paul, Thank you to our amazing
for the theory in and Najee Harris. But right now
we are going to go to Manzi Bolagno's for our
sports break.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Tell us what's up?

Speaker 5 (22:38):
All right, Gal's a.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
Lot going on. We'll start in baseball? Why not?

Speaker 10 (22:42):
The Twins are crushing the Pirates twelve to three bottom
of the seventh inning in Minnesota. The Mariners have a
seven to one lead over the Tigers in Detroit, bottom
of the fifth, Braves and Cardinals, it's been back and forth.
Braves back on top thanks to Sean Murphy's go ahead
three run shot in the eighth inning, so they're edging
the Cardinals six five, bottom of the eighth. In Saint Louis,
the Dodgers have scored first. You mentioned at Tracy that

(23:04):
Shoho Twani striking out the side to start the game,
and not too bad. Tommy Edmund did just ground out,
but it led to an RBI. So the Dodgers on
the scoreboard first against the Giants in San Francisco, one zero,
top of the second inning.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Let's stop that losing streak. I am with you, girl.
The Reds are on the scoreboard first.

Speaker 10 (23:22):
Against the Rockies at home, one zero first inning, and
that one Nationals also scored first against the Burs one zero,
top of the second inning. The Cubs did defeat the
Yankees five to two, but still all rise for the
captain Aaron Judge with this thirty fifth home run of
the season three hundred and fifty career home runs, becoming
the fastest player to reach that number.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
He did it in one thousand and eighty eight.

Speaker 10 (23:42):
Games, beating Mark Maguire who did it in one thousand,
two hundred and eighty games, so almost two hundred game
difference there.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Aaron Judge, the captain. Still Yankees can't win at Wimbledon.

Speaker 10 (23:53):
He got sapiate dominated American Amanda Anissimova to win her
first Wimbledon title.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
You guys, fifty seven minutes is all it took. Amanda
didn't even.

Speaker 10 (24:01):
Win one game at Wimbledon, but she wasn't supposed to
be there.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
She was like a Cinderella story.

Speaker 10 (24:07):
I guess Fiatek is amazing and she wins one, her
first one at Wimbledon.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
WNBA, well give it.

Speaker 10 (24:14):
Up for the Sky who beat the Minnesota Links, one
of the top teams in WNBA, eighty seven to eighty one.
Angel Reese recorded her eighth straight double double nineteen points
and eleven rebounds. Right now, the Valkyries have a twenty
seven to twenty five lead over the Aces, and there's
about eight minutes to go in the first half. Asia
Wilson thirteen points already in that one.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
We do have Summer League.

Speaker 10 (24:33):
I know it's just summer league, but you know, Cooper
Flag out there for the Mavericks against the San Antonio Spurs.
Spurs are up twenty three to fifteen. Halfway through the
second quarter. Cooper Flag, who struggled in his debut from
the field, is two of five. You've got he's got
seven points and let me tell you he's eighteen.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
But he looks ready. Back to you, gals, age is.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
Just the numbers.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
Just either way these way you know same either my
grandmother you slakers?

Speaker 3 (24:57):
Was I mean that man is ready? Is ready?

Speaker 4 (25:01):

Speaker 4 (25:26):
I am very excited to welcome our first guest of
the day, Maria Martin, a sports anchor for leven A
Live News in Atlanta, where.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
An award winning sports anchor, an award.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Winning app sports anchor Maria is Atlanta, Marie. I love
that Maria is Atlanta, which means Maria is the All
Star Game because that's where it's being played.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Maria, thank you for joining us today.

Speaker 11 (25:49):
Oh you guys are amazing. What an intro. Thank you
so much.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Tying Hey girl, So, Rick, could you give us an
idea of kind of what the buzz is in Atlanta?
Is what they feel like? Is there a lot of
excitement for the game come into town? What's the what's
the skinny?

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (26:03):
Look, I mean it's incredible, especially because this city has
been dying to have the All Star Game back for
a while. It was taken away from them, as we
all remember, just five years ago, and now they get
it back for the first time in twenty five years,
the third time the city has hosted this event. And
when you walk around, it's everywhere, and it's not just
within the city of Atlanta, all in the suburbs. There's signage,
there's people here for the game, and it just so

(26:25):
happens to be an insane weekend here in Atlanta because
Beyonce is in town, the Altar Game is happening. Collective gasping, right,
it's insane. So as you know, you guys are in
Los Angeles. You understand traffic is horrible, but it's Atlantic
traffic wasn't bad enough. We have to add Beyonce and
the All Star Game. That's just so much excitement in
the city.

Speaker 12 (26:45):
It's awesome.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Maria.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
I know you went to Renaissance are you Are you
going to go check out a cowboy Carter?

Speaker 11 (26:52):
Funny enough, I got last minute took us down tomorrow night,
so I know, I'm so excited. I'm going to kick
off my All Star festivities in the back way with Beyonce.
It's going to be great.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
The ultimate All Star Beynes.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
Yes, yes, yes, she is the All Star that we
all are paying attention to. Maria, I really quickly before
we talk more baseball, I want to ask you what
your thoughts were on the Atlanta Hawks free agency moves.
I mean, they are one of the teams that are
getting like the best reviews in terms of the you know,
bringing in Chris Stops, kind of bolstering the roster around

(27:25):
Trey Young.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
What did you make of the additions?

Speaker 11 (27:28):
Yeah, what a great question. It's all anyone can talk
about right now. It's the Hawks, which blows my mind
because ever since the Eastern Conference Finals run by the
Hawks in twenty twenty one, this team has seemingly been irrelevant,
and you know, I know it's consistently frustrating for Trey
just to make it to the plan and get get
bounced in the first round. He's been frustrated enough to
where the front office is finally listening. They need to

(27:51):
build a team around Trey. He's been the centerpiece in
Atlanta for a while now, and now he actually has
pieces around him. I honestly believe that the Hawks had
one of the best off seasons in the NBA so far.
I don't even think they're done yet. They still have
some room to play around with the moves that they've
made to support him. Finally he gets an All Star
and Christaps for Zingis, and you know, the Eastern Conference

(28:14):
is such a big question mark that why not the Hawks?

Speaker 12 (28:16):
They look really good?

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Honestly, I mean, wow, what a statement? Why not the Hawks?

Speaker 8 (28:21):
Why not?

Speaker 3 (28:22):
That should be?

Speaker 5 (28:22):
That should be their tagline for the season. There should
be shirts. Why not the Hawks? I like?

Speaker 4 (28:27):
I love it so getting back to the All Star Game,
I want to talk a little home run derby. I
went to LA few years ago. It's actually was way
more fun than I thought it would be, and I
want to will you be there? Is there anyone you're
really excited to see, because it was actually a really
fun thing to attend.

Speaker 11 (28:43):
Yeah, it is awesome. I was there in Texas last
year because we did have so many Braves being represented
and so it was a blast. I mean, the Home
Run Derby is one of the more exciting events when
it comes to All Star Weeks, no matter what league
you're talking about, right, there's always sitement around it to
where they've had to add standing room only tickets and

(29:04):
those are selling out. You know, people want to see
guys hit home runs, and we're going to keep our
fingers crossed. This happened to be a rainy time in
the year here in Atlanta. We don't need that to
happen because we want the home run Derby to happen, right.
I was initially really excited to see Ron and Attuney Junior.
I'd be on my late scratch. He's dealing with some
backass back issued, but you know, he did look really

(29:25):
really good in the game today, so I think they're
just trying to be cautious with him. Honestly. So now
you know, because I'm in Atlanta, I'm going to have
to go with the Brave, not Olsen. He knows how
to go yard, he hasn't done it as consistently as
I think he probably would like. But I think it's
gonna be fun to watch them the whole run Derby.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Oh, I think I think it will be for sure
for some of our listeners who are going to be
attending at Truest Park for the first time, and he
highlights on the park they need to check out, like
what's the food, that's the food, that's our logo, and
what are the best concessions?

Speaker 11 (29:55):
Great question, perhaps the most important question of all time.
Weeks of the food, right, especially because ballparks tend to
roll out new and exciting things around the All Star Week,
And lucky enough for me, I got to try all
of the new things that they brought to the ballpark. Guys,
they have this hot dog that has pretty pebbles on it.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
It's like actually.

Speaker 11 (30:15):
Safe, it's so good. And everything around the ballpark this
week it's going to be a nod to Southern cuisine
and it's all phenomenal.

Speaker 12 (30:25):
There's all the.

Speaker 11 (30:25):
Peach cobbler, you can eat, there's waffles. It's going to
be really cool. I'm so proud of Atlanta for doing that.
And Truth Park is so new and shiny, new in
terms of baseball lore right, and it's such a phenomenal park,
to the point where other baseball parks around the country
have now taken things from the Battery, which is what's
around Truth Park, the Battery Atlanta, and they've made it

(30:48):
their own. When I went to the Rangers Ballpark last
year for the All Star Game, it is literally a
mini battery. It's really cool to see a lot of
people being influenced by this place because it's unbelievable. So
fans that were coming there for the first time, they're
going to be mind blogs. Even if you had someone
in your group who's maybe not that big of a
baseball fan, they just kind of want to go, or
they're being dragged by their family, whatever the case may be,

(31:11):
they're going to have a phenomenal time because Truth Part, honestly,
it's one of the most fun, new and shiny baseball
parts in all of Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
I honestly was just looking up Lax two Atlanta flights.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
You said fruity pebbles on a dog and Nikki was like, Siri,
how do I get to it?

Speaker 12 (31:27):
Lanta.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
I just think it's.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
So important that with these mega events right that we
celebrate the culture of the host cities. And I think
it sounds like truist Atlanta is putting on a show
and we love to see it. Now, Ria, one of
the last questions here. You were the first person I
woke up on Friday morning and texted about Justin Bieber's

(31:49):
new album. So I need your play by play, breakdown,
your thoughts, your analysis as a believer like myself, and
you freely believer on the air right now.

Speaker 11 (32:02):
This is why I agreed to do this today because
I knew you guys have Justin Bieber fans, Like I'm
only supporting the people who are out their believers, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (32:11):
Forever?

Speaker 11 (32:12):
No, truly, I actually had someone text me and say
they weren't a fan of the album. Should I delete
their number? This is this what's happening? You know? I
thought this album was really mature for Justin. It's like
a new chapter for him. I think it's awesome. It's
also kind of a way to address his haters. If
you will and requiet to hatly beaber rumors. I thought

(32:35):
it was awesome. There's so many cool mixes of sound.
Drewski is on there, who happens to be in the
celebrity softball game here in its weekend, which is really cool. Yeah,
So there's there's just so many cool pieces. There's different sounds.
You know, it sounds a little bit like Michael Jackson.
He's got so many different songs that just flow and

(32:56):
sound great. And it's not just one sound justin Bieber
you stot tracks where it was like only a pop album,
and now I feel like it's so many different things
and he's I don't know, turning into just this. He's
already a mega superstar, but it's phenomenal, Like this is
such a first down for him, and I love it.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
I'm so happy he's creating again.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
And I think a lot of people, like you said,
had that immediate reaction of like, well, what is what.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
Do we make of this album?

Speaker 2 (33:20):
But I think if you think back on Taylor Swifts TTBD,
a lot of people kind of listened and weren't sure
how to process it, and then as you digest it,
listen to it more.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
The vibes are flowing. So I'm currently fixated on Daisies.
I know you know that that's a radio hit already,
so good, it's so good.

Speaker 11 (33:40):
Here's the bottom line.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
For me.

Speaker 11 (33:42):
I am such a big fan of people doing what
they love, yes, and being passionate about it. And so
for him creating music and being happy about his music
is just exactly what he wants to be, not everything
that comes with it, obviously, and so just just makes
me smile listening to it, because I'm like, here's a
guy who wants to be happy in hell, and you
can tell in his music it's finally coming back to fruition.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
Yeah, I agree. I agree.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
Also for our non swifty listeners, TTPD is the torture
Poet's Department.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Sorry, I'm like.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
You know, we got Beyonce, we got Bieber, we had
to bring into.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
Here all of the all of the big time people.
I love Daisies.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
I guess you could say that justin Bieber is standing
on business and now it's clocking for everybody.

Speaker 11 (34:25):
That's incredible.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
Thank you, thank you, thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Maria.

Speaker 5 (34:31):
We have absolutely loved talking to you.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
One last thing before you leave, the one place in Atlanta,
people have to eat before they leave.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Oh gosh, you're.

Speaker 11 (34:40):
Going to put that on me. There are so many
places it's impossible. But obviously you're here in Atlanta, and
especially if you're visiting where waffle house is not a thing,
you have to go to waffle House. The original waffle
House is here in downtown and it is literally what
we do. I remember when the Braves maybe to the
World Series and in twenty twenty one they had waffle

(35:00):
House in the press box for the pros. It's just
so fantastic. So that's gonna be my number one thing
always with someone who lives in Atlanta. And is it
true Atlanta pass.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
To never forget my first waffle house experience. So I
stand on that.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
I get, I got. I think that's a great first wreck.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Maria, thank you for joining us. Have so much fun
at Beyonce, so much fun at the home run derby
the game, and please report back on the hot tug
with fruity pebbles on you once you have it again.

Speaker 11 (35:25):
All the things. I'm gonna send you guys pictures for sure.
I'm such a big fan of both of yours. I'm
so proud you guys are amazing. Thanks for having me on.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
Oh, thank you so much. Go follower Ria underscore Martin.
We will be back.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
This is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
You're listening to Fox Sports.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
Hello, we are back with you on Fox Sports Saturday.
I really love this song, by the way, it just
makes you want to get up and dance. So I
love that we could turn this into a dance party.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
I'm not opposed to it.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Mm Tracy Sandler, Nikki kay here with you. We are
going to do the dues in But my biggest du
is dance to this song right now, no matter where.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
You are.

Speaker 12 (36:06):
High.

Speaker 8 (36:08):
I love that putting a spotlight on the dot.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
The subject brings me no joy.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
That that's insane.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
It's time for the dues and the don'ts in sports.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
All right, dews and dose time. As you just heard, Nikki,
I am going to.

Speaker 5 (36:22):
Ask you to go first today.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
All right, I'm gonna start with a don't.

Speaker 5 (36:27):
Okay, not gonna till you try it.

Speaker 11 (36:29):
I like it.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
I guess the ocheckt your woman's Wimbledon champion, yess, but
her her snack.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Of choices pasta strawberries, pasta with strawberries.

Speaker 5 (36:42):
Interested It's actually a Polish dish.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Okay, But she's gained a lot of attention for talking
about one of her favorite snacks, which is strawberry pasta,
and she adds in yogurt and honey.

Speaker 5 (36:58):
I have questions, questions you may not know the answer to.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
It makes sense.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
I'll let you fin.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
I get the carbs, the fruit, the yogurt, but like,
do we need pasta?

Speaker 7 (37:07):
This is kind of a commonly Eastern European thing. For
me as an Italian, it still kind of drives me
a little insane hearing it. But I mean, I guess it's.

Speaker 5 (37:15):
Common with the fruit and the yogurt and the honey.

Speaker 7 (37:18):
Yes, yeah, I know, like that's East. I feel like
East Europe has a completely different view of how we
view something like a sweet or a fruit flavor.

Speaker 5 (37:28):
Okay, that's right, interesting, just okay, it.

Speaker 7 (37:30):
Kind of works like that. It's a lot of that
kind of like starchy plus sweet.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
We love that because honestly, I was getting a little
annoyed that people kept finding it to be a ludicrous knack.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
Well, and now that we're talking about it, I'm kind
of curious.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Don't not until you try it.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
I might don't make some pasta with yogurt, honey and
strawberries this week and report back to you guys.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
It reminds me of Elf for some reason, you know,
when he has the pasta and adds maple syrup.

Speaker 4 (37:57):
Yes, but oh, I've only seen Elf once and I
only recently, just this year.

Speaker 5 (38:02):
I know it's it's a okay.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
It's a not fun fact about me, but it's yeah,
but I do kind of remember. I know Ian is
shaking his head. He's like, basically, you guys, they're gonna
maybe leave me.

Speaker 7 (38:13):
Well, I mean, it kind of reminds you. What are
those Polish pancakes. There's like very thin ones.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
I forget they're not like a crape but kind of
like yeah.

Speaker 7 (38:20):
I kind of like that, but they're very unsweetened too,
but you're supposed to fill them out kind of like
you would a crape.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Yeah, because I guess there are savory crapes, so they
mixed the sweet and yeah, very.

Speaker 5 (38:32):
Yes, Okay, I'm curious.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
I'm curious, so my I'm gonna do try it so
I don't knock it.

Speaker 5 (38:39):
Well, I might knock it, but first time to try it.
How's that?

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Does that? Love it?

Speaker 5 (38:42):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Speaking of Wimbledon.

Speaker 5 (38:44):
I was saying, do here have fun with content and fashion?
Morgan Riddle boyfriend's so fabulous.

Speaker 4 (38:50):
Friends, She's so fun The fashion is amazing, She's funny,
she's super clever, and I like.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
I just like that. She's a great influencer, great influencing and.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
Was only the week in a way that was just
kind of different.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
I really love to see her ascend and brands take notice.
I'm gonna stick on the Wimbledon one. Don't nap in
public places, you grant. Did you see him asleep?

Speaker 3 (39:13):
And I did.

Speaker 4 (39:14):
There's a couple of things you're telling me Toad and
not know about. I did not see him asleep.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
Oh we list Wimbledon. It was knocked out, like just doing.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
The casual dad you know, you know, like Dad's how
they'll just kind of like take a nap when they can.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
Yeah, he was just a cute get yea, yeah he
got he got caught. Wasn't there a sweet he could
go into.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
See exactly exactly? Oh huge, It was kind of like
it was kind of funny. Though he gave us a
great meme.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
He'll always be dancing in love actually to me, I'll
tell you that right now.

Speaker 5 (39:44):
But I love it.

Speaker 4 (39:45):
This is all Wimbledon focus because do be Coco Golf
who went through and congratulated all of her American tennis colleagues,
class backed and messages of support.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
And I really like that, Like be.

Speaker 5 (39:59):
Be a last act.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
And you know it's a competition, but at the end
of the day, you're in the same competition.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
Build each other up, all right, love it. I have
a really quick one.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Do use a bigger sample size when asking pictures to be.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
In the MLB All Star Game. Oh yeah, a lot
of drama.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Around uh, right hander Jacob Mizerowski.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
I hope I'm saying that right, I think?

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Is it?

Speaker 8 (40:22):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (40:22):
Okay, yeah, he was invited to the All Star Game.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
I mean, this kid's electric, right, but he's only Here's
the thing, he's only pitched five games.

Speaker 5 (40:31):
Yes, like these numbers.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Over five games, I mean.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
And players like Christopher Chancez and Rena over the Phillies
were not happy.

Speaker 5 (40:41):
So do stick up for your teammates.

Speaker 4 (40:43):
So I get it. And five games just does not
see you, right, it just does not. Well, he's got
a lot of time ahead of him, he sure does,
and will probably be more All Star games. Let me
tell you who did not have a lot of time
ahead of us in this segment. And but that being said,
we'll be back hour two.

Speaker 5 (41:00):
This is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
Hello, and welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I am
Tracy Sandler alongside the fantabulous.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
Okay, oh girl, it's my honor, my honor to be
in the studio with you right now.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
The honor is all mine. We could do this for
the next back and forth back and for implement ping pong.

Speaker 3 (41:26):
Let's go, let's go.

Speaker 4 (41:28):
But instead of doing that, though I'm not opposing that,
let's look a little NBA great summerly going on right
now Vegas. We will get to that. But a big
week of contracts. Jalen Williams of Thunder agreed to the
Rookie Max extension, and per our wonderful producer Ian who
I have mentioned earlier, this contract ties it, I'm going
to quote you exactly, ties in with the extensions for Chet,

(41:50):
Holgrim and SGA. So they have locked down their core
for the foreseeable future.

Speaker 5 (41:57):
Nikki, what say you?

Speaker 2 (41:58):
I think I mean, when you look at the state
of a franchise building forward, it doesn't get any better
to have three young stars all in lockstep and then
the armada.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
Of draft picks you have at your disposal. Right, So
let's say, you know.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
These are expensive contracts for three, but Sam prest he
could theoretically just draft young talent, pay him on that,
you know, the rookie the rookie deals, and then just
keep turning it over. I mean that that's the mold
for I mean, obviously you will have to play pay players,
and it will with the new the new CBA and

(42:37):
the way the Aprons are kind of you know, tightening,
tightening owners pockets or wallets. I should say, uh, there
will be there will be friction.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
But like this is just as good as it gets.

Speaker 4 (42:49):
Yeah, I think so we talked to think about Ria
talking about the Hawks. Yeah why not the Hawks? Well
the thunder obviously proved why not the thunder? But think
they're going to continue to do that?

Speaker 11 (42:57):
Right?

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Well, now the path or a long runway of success
is just rolled out for them.

Speaker 5 (43:05):
I like that. I'm right now picturing like a path.
It's very long.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
I'm picturing you know when they like roll out the
red carpet, like and it's like rolling rolling.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
Really that's yes, But I think it would be orange
and blue. Oh yeah, just like naturally, Yeah, naturally. Devin
Booker gets a highest annual extension salary in NBA history
two years, one hundred and forty five billion dollars. I
believe are the correct numbers because I chose for reasons
I can't explain to try to commit them to memory
as opposed to writing them down. But I believe that

(43:34):
those are correct numbers. What do you think of that contract?

Speaker 2 (43:37):
It's interesting because the Sons are trying to remedy a lot.
You know, we were talking about the like the concept
of a franchise writing itself right, and the Bradley Beal
thing was a bad divorce for the Suns, And I
think they're trying to say, like, hey, this is our few. Sure,

(44:00):
this is our star. Make Booker a lifer. But he's
twenty nine years old now, and he is not a definitive.
I mean, he's excellent, but I don't think you look
at his numbers and you think that the money he
will be making in twenty eight, twenty nine, and twenty
nine thirty is going to I just don't see him

(44:25):
ascending to the likes of a megastar in this league, right,
and that that money is going to make him one
of the highest plaid paid players in the NBA during
those years. So I just think, if he's not, you know,
one of the top two players in his position right now,

(44:46):
what's to make us think that he will be there?
So this extension is it's it's a dangerous it's a
dangerous kind of line you walk, right because you want
to invest, you want to show continuity. And obviously I
will never knock a player's contract. Every guy stands to
make the right dart, but it is in terms of

(45:07):
where he'll be in the future, it's kind of it's.

Speaker 4 (45:11):
Risky, it is, and I feel like Devin Booker has
now been around long and I've had had a very
good career so far. But if he was going to
be one of these top players in the league, he
would have done it right by now.

Speaker 3 (45:24):
I believe, yes. And he's excellent.

Speaker 5 (45:26):
He is, He's excellent.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
He's just not It's okay, not everyone gets to that
next level.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
I don't even know if I would count him as
a top fifteen player right now, right. So, yeah, it's
the sense have got a lot of things they are
trying to iron out but so interesting. I mean, Kevin
Durant on the move, DeAndre ay and on the move,
Bradly beale Gone spending more money on Devin Booker. So

(45:52):
it's just it's going to be uh, you know, I
get that they're reshuffling the cards that they have or
will will have, and I'm intrigued to see who they
bring in to support him.

Speaker 4 (46:04):
Yeah, it'll definitely be interesting to see. Let's take a
look at some of the stars of the future. Oh yes,
NBA Summer League going on right now. We're going to
talk about that even more a little later with our
guest in this hour. But Cooper Flag made his debut.
He's playing again today. We made his debut on Thursday
night against the Lakers versus Brownie James, and we could

(46:25):
get into that in a minute.

Speaker 5 (46:26):
Struggled a little bit.

Speaker 4 (46:27):
He was five of twenty one from the floor, oh
five from three point range. But when it counted in
the last minute and ten seconds, he made a tremendous
defensive play and Blae found his teammate wide opened for
a three pointer that gave the Mavericks the lead. So
I think before our very eyes in one game, you

(46:48):
saw some maturity he's like I said, they're playing the
San Antonio Spurs today. The numbers are a little bit better,
a little bit, but it's been you know, he's eighteen
years old.

Speaker 3 (46:59):
Did you hear that?

Speaker 2 (47:00):
I heard that court side tickets at Thomas and Mack
for this Brownie James Cooper flag showdown where courtside seats
for going for.

Speaker 3 (47:08):
Twenty five hundred dollars.

Speaker 2 (47:09):
I mean, Summer Summer League is a place and I've
been a couple of times. It's a it's I mean,
if you're working in the industry, it's a hob nob
and it's a time to connect and like like I'll
be out at dinner and it's like like the combine
for there's TIBs, yeah, and there's a there's JJ Reddick
and we're all you know, you're you're networking. But it's
also a place for fans to go see the stars

(47:30):
of the future at an affordable, like casual environment pace
rate of the above.

Speaker 3 (47:37):
So this this game, you know, drew a lot of hype.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
I uh am the sideline reporter for the South Bay
Lakers here in LA so I have observed Brownie James
very up like up close for his first year as
a professional, and the composure he has carried himself with,
and I mean, I get it, he's he's the son
of the biggest star on the planet. But he has

(48:04):
he has with you know, the way he has moved
through the spotlight has been very admirable. And he's learned
how to have fun with this game despite all eyes
being on him. So just as much as we were
watching Cooper Flag in this showdown, I was looking at
Brownie James and I.

Speaker 3 (48:21):
See a rotation player.

Speaker 2 (48:23):
I see, you know, despite all the doubt and criticism
about his early shooting numbers, like he is, he is
going to have a career in the NBA. So that
was really exciting. And and and speaking about Cooper Flag,
that man's a showman. He is showman, showman. And even
though the efficiency wasn't there shooting, which I mean, come on,

(48:43):
he's a.

Speaker 3 (48:44):
Rookie, like he's a rookie, Yeah he is.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
Uh, he's making the right plays and I think I think, uh,
he's going to be every bit of the star that
he's been built to be.

Speaker 4 (48:54):
I think you're right. I'm excited to watch him play.
I've made this comment a couple of times that Mavericks
fans won't like. But I'm really excited in like five
years to be a Laker.

Speaker 5 (49:05):
It's gonna be amazing.

Speaker 3 (49:06):
I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (49:12):
Yeah, I know, it's like Laker fan exceptionalism goes so
hard that it's like but that's why.

Speaker 3 (49:19):
I mean, just flashback to the Luka Doncic trade.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
It was so stunning, like I will always find a
way to bring Luca up on the show, you guys always.
It was so out of pocket that even Laker fans
had never photoshopped a jersey like Luca in a Laker jersey.
There were no edits of that, I mean, and Laker
fans are audacious, like you said, where are the where
are the pictures of Cooper in a Lakers jersey?

Speaker 3 (49:44):
Already? You know they'll be trickling now soon.

Speaker 4 (49:47):
Yeah, if you guys make one, please send one our way.
I want to go back to talking a little bit
about Bronnie because one of the things you said I
think is is well, everything you said was very interesting,
but one of the things that stood out was son
of like the most famous basketball player in art in
this generation obviously, and how he carries himself because it
could be a very different way, and you know, in

(50:08):
some ways he it's and I don't think there'd be
a lot of arguing this. It's it's hard to be
Lebron's son because he will be a rotational player. He
will have a career. He won't be Lebron, right and that,
and he'll there'll be this constant comparisons to Lebron, which
really aren't fair because they are different people and Lebron's
like a generational basketball player. But I've been very impressed

(50:30):
with him just from the outside and the way that
he has carried himself. And I think he is going
to surprise people and he will have a career. Because
there was a lot of, you know, criticism which I
really didn't think was fair. I think you know what
it is, what it is, and he's his son, Like,
what an incredible thing to see. We're never going to
see a father son play together on a basketball team
ever again.

Speaker 2 (50:49):
Right right, And it's it's I think it's lost in
the the hullabaloo that get a nice word. I like that, Yeah,
oh thank you that you know, being Lebron James. And
he's also a kid. He also had a very traumatic
health scare with his heart where he is grateful to
walk and talk and breathe, and like it's important to

(51:11):
remember that it's okay to have fun with this game too.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
It's a game.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
So seeing him continue to put in the work. He
is a very hard worker. All of his teammates in
the G League were like, Bronnie's a regular guy. He
works hard and we love being his teammate, Like it's
not a distraction. So I'm excited, excited to see what he.

Speaker 3 (51:35):
Puts together in his in year two.

Speaker 4 (51:38):
We talked about this last week. I would love your
thoughts on this. Do you think there's any chance Lebron
gets traded?

Speaker 5 (51:45):
I say no, But.

Speaker 2 (51:45):
There's like a weird kind of air about how is
this Lebron Lakers relationship going to shake out?

Speaker 3 (51:53):
It's been a little eerily quiet on Lebron's side.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
It's been reading between the tea leaves of you know,
him reposting. I think someone wearing a Lebron Calves jersey.
Like there's just lots of little things where.

Speaker 3 (52:07):
You you think he knows what he's doing.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
And I'm really intrigued to talk to our guest about
what he's hearing, what the scuttle butt is.

Speaker 3 (52:15):
But the rumor mail never steps.

Speaker 2 (52:17):
My dad, a lifelong Lakers man, and he says, you
know what, I'd rather be talked about than irrelevant.

Speaker 3 (52:23):
So oh, I like right, right, So the conversation around
the Lakers will never subside.

Speaker 5 (52:31):
No, it will not. It's part of being the Lakers.

Speaker 4 (52:33):
It's part of being a team in LA and it's
very much a Lakers Dodgers town, right, And so those
are things that are always going to be on the mines.

Speaker 5 (52:40):
I wanted your opinion on that. I'm but I know,
I know it gets that.

Speaker 2 (52:44):
It's the free agency movement, the off season. It's something
feels like, you know, it feels like when the air
is really thick with tension. Yes, I feel like we're
going to see a couple more big dominoes to.

Speaker 5 (52:56):
Fall, because then what happens to Briant?

Speaker 3 (52:58):
Right?

Speaker 4 (52:58):
So right, there's a lot, there's a lot there, right,
a lot to dissect. Well, we will not be making
those decisions, but I'm glad about that.

Speaker 3 (53:07):
So that's a tough one of us drama.

Speaker 4 (53:08):
But we do like drama because there's then it gives
us so much to talk about and we have so
much more to talk about, So stick with us.

Speaker 5 (53:15):
This is Fox Sports Saturday.

Sunday morning, right here on Fox Sports Radio and the

Speaker 5 (53:48):
We are back with you.

Speaker 4 (53:50):
As Nicki said, and Nikki mentioned at the very top
of the show that this is a time of year
when we can take a breath and focus on sports
that are somewhat the essence of summer.

Speaker 3 (54:00):
Really wanted to find a way to talk about the
Tour de France. Please feel free discuss it well. I
just want to say it.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
For me, it's a nostalgia thing. My dad's a huge cyclist.
I would grow up waking up coming downstairs. It starts
early and you just have you know, and it was
back in the era of Lance Armstrong, and I know,
you know, there's a lot of controversy around his legacy.
But it was so fun to have a team to

(54:26):
root for, it to have an you know, a larger
than life sports icon at the time, and it was like,
what's Lance gonna do today?

Speaker 3 (54:32):
What's the drama in the peloton. So now I.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
Find myself I'm not as invested in, you know, the
ins and outs of certain cyclists. That's why I didn't
I didn't profer any storylines about it. But it is
thinking about this time of year and the sports on
I waking up. I now just turn on the broadcast
because Phil Liggett one of one of my favorite announcers,

(54:56):
i'd say, in all of sports. Yeah, he's a British,
British and bouncer and his voice is.

Speaker 3 (55:01):
So soothing, the the.

Speaker 2 (55:03):
Just you know when you talk about sports like golf, tennis, Wimbledon, right,
it's it's it's a special time of year.

Speaker 3 (55:10):
I love it.

Speaker 5 (55:10):
Maybe he was the one talking when Hugh Grant fell asleep.

Speaker 2 (55:13):
Probably just a nice little little no I know, watching
watching Wimbledon broadcasts.

Speaker 3 (55:18):
Also, it's so pleasant.

Speaker 2 (55:20):
Not people people, and you know the grandstands are getting
strawberries and cream, not not pasta, not pastage, strawberry pasta.
But anyways, no, I I uh, it's it's.

Speaker 4 (55:31):
A fun time of year, Shark Week coming up, and
we've got Shark Week coming up. I love shark I'm
gonna say something that is probably again gonna get me
kicked right out of the studio.

Speaker 5 (55:40):
I've never watched Shark Week, I know.

Speaker 4 (55:44):
Between that and ELF, I feel like, wow, it's kind
of looking at me like I thought I thought you
were cool, but apparently I'm not anymore.

Speaker 3 (55:52):
It's fine, it's fine, all right, he wasn't listening to us.

Speaker 4 (55:58):
Who wasn't listening to No, I'm not, but I'm gonna
put that on my agenda, right, I'm going to watch sharks.

Speaker 2 (56:02):
Just large, like like ten minutes of programming.

Speaker 3 (56:06):
Okay, sharks are fascinating.

Speaker 5 (56:07):
But does it not make you more scared of sharks.

Speaker 3 (56:10):
No, here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
I've come to the realization, like bad PR Team Sharks,
great PR team Polar bears. Polar bears are incredibly vicious,
like hunters in the wild, even the ones that drink
the coke.

Speaker 3 (56:23):
And yet, yes, and yet they have been marketed as the.

Speaker 2 (56:26):
Cutest little you know, like fun guys and snow and
just so cute sea white polar bears. They are behemoths
of predators. And meanwhile sharks, sharks get a bad rap.
So whoever's doing the PR for sharks, let's work shot.

Speaker 7 (56:42):
It always really depends on what movie you get, because
we got like Free Willie in Sudden, the orcas are fine,
but like sharks get Jaws, sharks just want you to
leave them alone.

Speaker 6 (56:51):
I'm pretty sure polar bears, like you were saying, I
think they're actually like the one animal that naturally views
human as prey. Yes, that's fine facts, so yeah, more scared.

Speaker 4 (57:02):
Of I think of them in scarves drinking a Coca
Cola Christmas exactly.

Speaker 3 (57:08):
Antarctica as much as you, well, you know who else.

Speaker 4 (57:11):
Actually, as long as we're on animals with good PR teams,
kangaroos are pretty mean.

Speaker 5 (57:16):
They will just yambowel something.

Speaker 4 (57:19):
Yeah, and they including like they're if they're their little babies.

Speaker 5 (57:22):
Their pouches are bothering them. But it's not great.

Speaker 2 (57:26):
Kangaroo's good PR, polar bear's great PR team. Sharks, we
gotta work, you know what. Finding Nemo came the closest
to uh, you know, humanizing sharks. Bruce, Bruce the shark says,
fish off friends, not food.

Speaker 4 (57:40):
Oh yeah, well I will tell you all another fun fact.
When I was a kid, I saw Jaws. Although my
parents told me not to watch it turns out they
were right, and I for an entire summer I wouldn't
even go in the pool because I was like, you
just can't be you can't be too safe.

Speaker 5 (57:56):
There's water you just never know.

Speaker 2 (57:59):
I okay, I looking up. One Shark Week officially starts. Okay,
it's been a moving target.

Speaker 3 (58:04):
Oh, July twentieth, so we are we are eyeing. Wow,
I gotta I gotta start doing my shark prep.

Speaker 5 (58:12):
You you sure just start doing your shark prep.

Speaker 4 (58:15):
You're gonna have to be really I'm gonna do shark
prep and training camp prep that week.

Speaker 3 (58:20):
Let's go.

Speaker 7 (58:20):
Wow, you're gonna power rank these sharks we put them
into Yeah, god, we.

Speaker 4 (58:25):
Are going to do that. But don't tell them just
in case they are really mean.

Speaker 5 (58:30):
I don't want them.

Speaker 7 (58:30):
Know what's a whale shark gonna do to you?

Speaker 2 (58:34):
No, those are actually whale sharks are not actually sharks.

Speaker 4 (58:39):
Yeah, this is a really good education on shark love sharks.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
You dove sharks?

Speaker 4 (58:48):
Would you here's the question you didn't you love them
under controlled circums?

Speaker 3 (58:53):
Yes, would you.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
I've got the cage dive mapped out South Africa maybe Baja.

Speaker 3 (58:59):
We're we're are eyeing one of those.

Speaker 2 (59:01):
Also on the on the docket you can free dive
with orcas in.

Speaker 3 (59:05):
The Geords for Geords.

Speaker 2 (59:07):
Okay, Fjords, thank you, thank your word. The Europe right,
you really are I'm gonna yep, I'm gonna do those
things you are.

Speaker 5 (59:19):
Oh God, I'm scared, like I'm our.

Speaker 4 (59:21):
I already have anxiety about this on behalf of Nikki
and she hasn't planned it, she doesn't have like a
day and I'm already concerned about it.

Speaker 3 (59:29):
The name of Yorka Expedition.

Speaker 2 (59:31):
We've been in contact, so it's coming in, It's coming
in the next twelve months.

Speaker 3 (59:35):
Wow yeah yeah. But anyways, we did get.

Speaker 5 (59:38):
A little bit off topic, but it was great.

Speaker 4 (59:40):
And now I'm totally all in on Shark Weeks and
find out who get We'll find a better pr team
for the Sharks, right, because whoever's doing the polar Bear
is killing it.

Speaker 2 (59:49):
Did you watch the Woman's Final and Wimbledon this morning?

Speaker 4 (59:52):
I watched some of it. It was very fast, Yes,
very very fast. It was very it was quick work.
But we have a champion ias via Tech.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Yeah, we've been rehearsing IGAs via tech.

Speaker 5 (01:00:04):
I get my hands up in there.

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
You've been rehearsing her name in commercial breaks. And yet when.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Monzi, pressure is the key to knowing that the pressure
and the pressure comes on. And I was like, but yes,
undefeated in every major final she's ever played in, which
I do think is very impressive. Six and Ozho first
Polish Wimbledon champion, which is why we probably are just
hearing about the PASTA. Yeah, I'm just saying but it
was a very impressive, dominating performance and it was it

(01:00:32):
was over kind of in the blink of an eye, right.

Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
And then on the other side you had Amanda on
on Nissimova on Nisimova uh an American and I just
think her journey to this moment in her career has
been remarkable. You know, she walked away from the game
with mental health struggles, and I think the more conversation
we have around this and normalizing what athletes go through

(01:00:57):
when you specialize and you train and you sacrifice everything
to get to get to these moments, but also the
darker side of it where and so to have her
arc de triumph kind of. I mean, yes, she didn't
get the outcome she wanted today, but to be back
there in the finals is it's incredible.

Speaker 4 (01:01:20):
Yeah, I would agree with that, and really only kind
of the beginning.

Speaker 5 (01:01:24):
I think. I think she will continue to have the trajectory.

Speaker 4 (01:01:27):
And you bring up the mental health, and I think
it's really important for athletes and for all of us
that mental health is healthy and you have to take
care of yourself.

Speaker 5 (01:01:34):
And we would never ever sugrin.

Speaker 4 (01:01:39):
I don't think someone though, for taking care of their
physical health as something was wrong, and so mental health
should be exactly the same.

Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
And the men's final that is tomorrow. Sink Karaz is
what I've heard. We're calling the center vers al Choraz
oh I.

Speaker 4 (01:01:52):
Like Caraz Yanick center versus Carlos alcaraz I like Sinn
Karaz yep, I really get what.

Speaker 5 (01:01:59):
Do you what are you excited about for that?

Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
I'm just excited that these are two young you know,
the two young names in the sport that have faced
off time and time again at this point that we
could be very well looking at the next you know,
Federer and.

Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
Nadal rivalry thing of the torch I think.

Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
I mean, considering Alcaaz has has done it and this
could be his third straight, I kind of I want
to see center.

Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
Your goal for the underdog who's not necessarily but it's
number one in the world. He's number one in the world,
so as far as underdogs go, he's in a really
good position.

Speaker 5 (01:02:36):
But you're going I like it. You went for the
guy who hasn't done.

Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
It yet, right, right, what are you expecting?

Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
I mean, We've got a twenty three year old from
Italy and a twenty two year old from Spain.

Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
It's the future of the sport, right it is.

Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
I'm gonna go Alcarez just because because mainly because you
went center, and I want to be different and also
a singer.

Speaker 5 (01:02:53):
I mean really, I'm all in on that.

Speaker 8 (01:02:54):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:02:55):
I love a nickname, branding any of the things, so
I'm into that.

Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
But I'm gonna go.

Speaker 5 (01:03:00):
I'm gonna go with alcraz And I'd also would like
to see a really good match.

Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
It's fun.

Speaker 4 (01:03:04):
Tennis is so much fun to watch, right, it really is.
So I would love to see a really good match
and a champion in the singles. Men's singles will be
found well, actually the Gentleman's Singles, which I love that
they call that will be crowned tomorrow. Right now, we
are gonna go to our single, our a favorite, our
ACE Sports Update person of the day, because we love.

Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
Martin too well. We gotta lie. Martin's not here, He's
not even listening.

Speaker 10 (01:03:30):
You can just yeah, you know, you just say he's fine,
He's not listening, he's off Gallivanti, who knows where I'm
with you, guys.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
Even Coco Goff agrees with you.

Speaker 10 (01:03:38):
With Amanda at Wimbledon, she tweeted at her and said,
so much to be proud of, because it's true, so
much to be proud of, and it sucks.

Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
Yeah, but keep your head up, absolutely, keep your head up.
We'll start in baseball here, gals.

Speaker 10 (01:03:50):
Mariners have been up on the Tigers a whole game,
but Detroit is not.

Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
Giving up yet. They are trying to close in.

Speaker 10 (01:03:56):
Still down four runs, eleven to seven is the score
in Detroit. Bottom of the eighth inning, the Dodgers have
added another run thanks to Hassan Kim with an RBI.

Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
There to zero is the score.

Speaker 10 (01:04:06):
Top of the seventh inning, Rockies are edging the Reds
to one top of.

Speaker 3 (01:04:09):
The sixth inning.

Speaker 10 (01:04:10):
Red Sox on the scoreboard first against the Raise one
zero top of the sixth in Boston, while Guardians have
added another run, so they're shutting out the White Sox
to zero.

Speaker 3 (01:04:19):
Top of the fourth inning.

Speaker 10 (01:04:20):
Juan Soto with a two run shot pits the Mets
on the scoreboard first. They are blanking the Royals to
zero bottom of the fifth inning, and the Brewers have
taken the lead at home from the Nationals three to
top of the sixth the Twins Cruz passed the Pirates already,
and it was a big day for Byron Buxton.

Speaker 7 (01:04:36):
Here's the pitch swung on, hit high in the air,
soil the field, and Duke CRU's going back.

Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Does it have the.

Speaker 12 (01:04:42):
Districe ere dune.

Speaker 3 (01:04:46):
A magical moment at target Field.

Speaker 5 (01:04:49):
The first cycle in target Field history belongs to Byron Boxfield.

Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
First cycle for him. What a treat.

Speaker 10 (01:04:58):
He was perfect at the plate five of five final
score against the Pirates twelve four. The Braves edged the
Cardinals seven to six. The Yankees lost to the Cubs
five to two. But Aaron Judge another historic game for him.
Not only thirty five home runs on the season, but
also three hundred and fifty career home runs, becoming the
fastest player to reach three point fifty. At Summer League,
we've got the number one pick, Cooper Flag taking on

(01:05:20):
the number two pick Dylan Harper. Well, not just them too,
but thir teams, the Mavericks and the Spurs. San Antonio
is up fifty nine to forty nine, ten minutes to
go in the fourth quarter. Cooper Flag twenty two points,
shooting the ball better from his debut against the Lakers
a couple of nights ago. He's seven of sixteen, twenty
two points, two rebounds. When it comes to Dylan Harper,
the number two pick, he's five to ten. He's got
thirteen points and six rebounds. It's summer League, I know.

(01:05:43):
In the WNBA, the Aces have a sixty five to
sixty one lead with about two minutes to go in
the third quarter. Asia Wilson with a double double twenty
seven points and eleven rebounds.

Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
Back to you gals, coming to you live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios. Shortly after the show, our podcast
will be going up. If you missed any of the show,
be sure to check out the pod.

Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts
and be sure to follow and review the podcast rate
at five stars. Again, just search Fox Sports Radio wherever
you get your podcasts, and you'll see today's show posted
right after we get off the air.

Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
Now we have our NBA insider Mark Medina coming to
us from summer league to tell us about all of
the things.

Speaker 5 (01:06:27):
Mark, welcome to the show.

Speaker 12 (01:06:29):
Thanks for having me. Minutes before you call, man, I
saw Cooper flag bird down and dump, so that's been fun.

Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
Oh I met that hazard.

Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
But what if your impression, you've been there, your you're
live watching, what have your impressions been of Cooper Flag
thus far?

Speaker 12 (01:06:42):
Well, you can't ignore the fact that he struggled heading
a shot, but it's improved today compared to the safe view.
But that aside, he's shown the complete package, great rebounder,
great defender, right in the open floor. If they're having
him be a playmaker, almost a point forward. I think
that even when you add the caveats that this summer league,

(01:07:03):
he's shown very early glimpses of why he is the
real deal and why the Maverick should be a static
that they luckily landed with the number one tick. Mark.

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
I know, being at Summer League is such a great
time to kind of network and just be boots on
the ground, yours to you know what you think, you
know whispers of moves might be.

Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
So I guess, first and foremost, what's the scuttle butt?

Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
Fill us in, give us the four, one, one, and
second alf I'll save my second question for a follow up.

Speaker 12 (01:07:34):
Okay, Well, the shuttle butt so far is all the
intrigue on Cooper Flag. That's all been positive because, unlike
past number one picks, he's not going to have the
pressure to be franchise savior because he is Tyree Irving
on his team and Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson. But
the thing that is very encouraging for people watching him

(01:07:55):
is that he's very adaptable. He can be the number one,
number two, number three option, and it's likely that's going
to happen because Kyrie Irving might not be back until
the middle of the next season because of the atl injury.
The other source of scuttle butt is what's the deal
with lebron James and what does this all mean? I
think it was notable that he was not at Vronnie
James's game in Summer League on Friday when he's you know,

(01:08:18):
obviously always been his number one fan, always promoting him.
And where this all ends up, I think is almost
a lot of angst over nothing. There's a strong expectation
is that through everything, Lebron's not going to want to
get traded. Exist fifty six million dollars awaits him and
the Lakers aren't going to trade him because they can't

(01:08:39):
find the right trade partner to make that work. So
I think the scuttle butt is it's weird, you don't
know what it means, but there's always a calculation with
what Lebron does, and this is just his last time
where he can feel like he puts some pressure on
the Lakers to make win now moves. But there is

(01:09:00):
once next season happens, it's likely going to be him
in a Lakers' uniform, and that's a.

Speaker 5 (01:09:07):
I agree with that. I agree with that.

Speaker 4 (01:09:08):
I think it has a little bit much ado about nothing,
and it's a it's a good story.

Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
There's some smoke, but I agree with you on that.

Speaker 4 (01:09:15):
But kind of along those lines with Brownie James, you're
now seeing him in his second year. Nicki and I
were talking earlier and NICKI was saying, you know, he's
going to have a career, he's going to be a
rotational player. How have you seen him kind of improve
and mature out of this out.

Speaker 5 (01:09:28):
This last year.

Speaker 12 (01:09:30):
Yeah, he's improved leaps and bounds. I think again it's
a summer league performance. But when I'm looking at his
summer league game Bride or yes, the other week, other day,
I mean versus last year, it's night and day. He's
a lot more confident. He shoots the ball better, he's
not afraid to be physical as a defender, even against
bigger guys like Cooper Flagg and so I don't think

(01:09:51):
anyone has the illusion that he's going to mirror his
father's career as far as being a generational talent, multi
year All Star. But I do share that optimism that
you all maketion that he could be a rotation player.
Now that's an unknown as well, but I think at
the very least he could carve himself out as a
guy that's on a team ten to eleventh, twelfth man

(01:10:12):
on the roster, great practice player, great attitude, can be
very adaptable with fluid playing time. But because of his
work ethic and the fact that he doesn't have a
defined skill set, but he doesn't have a defined weakness
that gives him an opportunity to really become an all
round player as a role player. And so the fact

(01:10:33):
that he has that attitude is coachable suggests that he'll
be able to carve that path for himself.

Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
I've loved everything I've seen out of the way he
carries himself. But Mark, when we look at big picture,
right and the teams that have seemingly won the offseason
so far, I'm looking at Denver, I'm looking at Atlanta.
There is one more oh Houston bringing in Kevin Durant.
First of all, who else do you think are silent
winners so far? And do you think we will be

(01:11:01):
getting any more big moves here before you know, as
we ramp up into the training camp.

Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
I guess, you know, September?

Speaker 12 (01:11:10):
Yeah, I think really the only other team would be Milwaukee.
On one hand, you think, okay, why would they waive
Damian Loward. They spent so much capital to get him.
You don't know how janisant Tokumpo is going to feel.
But that gave them, you know, some money and flexibility
to get someone like Lyles Turner who's one of the
best centers in the NBA, great rim protector, stretch five.

(01:11:31):
But I do think that the Houston Rockets won the
offseason because not only do they give Kevin Durant, get
Kevin Durant, who still planned all NBA level when he's
on the court. But what they didn't have to give
up they still have Aman Thompson, great two way player,
one of the fastest players in the league, Albertsonngoon. He's
becoming an elite center and very well rounded overall. He

(01:11:53):
made a Doka great coach, and so I still put
the odds on shavor for the Thunder to repeat a
champion to get out of the West. But I want
to be surprised that the Houston Rockets meet them in
the Western Conference finals and challenge them to a seven
game series.

Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
I think it thinks be a lot of fun. I
think the West is going to be a lot of fun.
We were talking to our previous guests about the Hawks,
and I know we mentioned that, but in the Eastern Conference,
do they seem like a team to you that may
really surprising people and come out on love there.

Speaker 12 (01:12:24):
Yeah, I want to put them as a favorite. I
think in the Eastern Conference, it would be Cleveland because
they run it back. They're you know, I think very
salty with the fact that they underachieved in the playoffs
after having such a dominant regular season. I put them
Knicks at number two with the fact that if Jalen Bronson,
Karlapia Pound's back Mike Brown, it can be a new voice,
even though I think Tom Thibodeau is mostly as a

(01:12:45):
good coach than in a bad one. But I think
Atlanta's right up there because Trey Young's still playing a
high level. They have a better supporting cast around them
right now with Luke Canard, great shooter, chrisos porzingis, great
all round player as much as the Boston Celtics, for example,
their identity revolved around Jason Tatum at Joe Brown. Chrisp

(01:13:08):
Borzingis was really that connector that made sure that two
offensively dominant players could also yield a balanced offense. And
so I think that that KP move is huge. Obviously
always questioned on his durability, but I think in fairness
to him, ever since he was with Washington, he's had
a much cleaner bill of health than he was than

(01:13:30):
he had in New York and Dallas. So that leads
me to think that he's not gonna play all these
two games, but he also won't be injury prone throughout
the season. So I would rank Atlanta probably, you know,
a healthy fifth or fourth, fifth or sixth, and Milwaukee
in there, depending on you know, how healthy anisonse the
koobook have said.

Speaker 4 (01:13:51):
Before we let you go, I'd love to know if
there's one story coming out of Summer League, whether it
be in the G League or in the NBA that
people aren't so on aren't talking about as much, but
people should be keeping an eye on.

Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (01:14:05):
I think the Pelicans with Jeremiah Fears number seven tich.
I think Derek Queen most notably because the Pelicans traded
up to get him higher in the draft, and that
was that caused a lot of you know, I think
commentary to the Pelicans didn't know what they're doing because
they made moves that suggested they're getting ready for rebuild,
like trading CJ. McCollum. Then all of a sudden they

(01:14:27):
trade up higher in the draft just to get another
young player. But I think Derek Queen has a chip
on his shoulder. He's a really good prospect out of Maryland,
and I wouldn't be surprised if those two players. They're
not going to make the Pelicans a contender, but they
could at least make them respectable, assuming Zion warrants and
can stay relatively healthy.

Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
Awesome, Thank you so much, so much joining us Mark,
have fun the rest of summer league, and we'll talk
to you soon.

Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
Yes, thanks so much.

Speaker 12 (01:14:55):
You're all the best.

Speaker 9 (01:14:56):
Nice.

Speaker 5 (01:14:57):
We will be right back. This is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
We are coming to live from the We are Cody
Live from the Fox Shorts Radio studios. I am Tracy
Sandler with Nikki Kay.

Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
It's a party. It actually has been a party. I
we're at the club.

Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
Right now, a little like we love the dancing, we
love the club.

Speaker 4 (01:15:22):
We've talked about Sharks, We've talked about justin Bieber Club.

Speaker 5 (01:15:27):
Great again, make clubbing great.

Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
We all need to go clubbing.

Speaker 4 (01:15:30):
We do need to go clubbing, maybe not like right
after the show, but sometime for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
But we've covered a variety.

Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
Of topics today and now it is time to get into.

Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
Something that should make you feel good.

Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
Because there are feel good stories of the week, and
I am actually going to start with this one.

Speaker 5 (01:15:51):
This is one close to my heart.

Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
And I don't I don't need to sound emotional, but
it's an emotional topic for me. Cody Bellinger is thriving,
and he had a three home run game the other night.

Speaker 5 (01:16:06):
First of his career.

Speaker 4 (01:16:06):
It was almost a four home run game, but for
a very close catch. It was almost a four run game.
And Cody Vllanger's my favorite baseball player ever. Well now
show hate to but he was my favorite Dodger. When
he left, I was really devastated. I'm not going to
tell you guys that I cried, even though I did.

Speaker 3 (01:16:24):
She's not going to tell you that.

Speaker 5 (01:16:25):
I'm not going to tell you that.

Speaker 4 (01:16:26):
Watching the video they made to thank you Cody video
made me cry, like ridiculously on an airplane or anything
like that. But he was my favorite, and so then
he thrived with the Cubs. Just to see him thriving
it makes me happy. He was the rookie of the year,
he was the league MVP, and then he just struggled
and it was hard to watch. So I think to

(01:16:48):
see him thriving again just makes me really happy. Even
though he's thriving for another team, and if they play
each other in the World Series and.

Speaker 3 (01:16:55):
Have a lot of trouble right.

Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
Well, I just I love the storylines in sports where
you know, athletes are written off and it was just
maybe you know, the relationship wasn't the one they were
meant to be in. And they always say that, you know,
one failed relationship might lead you one step closer to
finding your forever partner.

Speaker 4 (01:17:14):
I just wanted Cody to be part of the Dodgers
forever partner, but I understood he's part of the lore.

Speaker 5 (01:17:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Well, and my feel good story is, you know, just
reflecting on the woman's Wimbledon final with Amanda and Asimova
and her journey to get to that point, you know,
walking away from the game for mental health, returning, and
the emotions are so real, not just because of what

(01:17:43):
she went through. I mean, this is a young woman
who lost her father at an early age and her
mom flew out, you know, for this, for this moment,
for this match, and Amanda thanking her mom, saying, my
mom's the strongest, most selfless person I know. And I
just think, obviously not the result you want, you want
to you want to win it all, but the journey

(01:18:04):
is is just as precious. So I really I really
loved that we were able to celebrate this young woman's arc.

Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
Today.

Speaker 4 (01:18:13):
I have another really nice story from Cincinnati Reds fan
had a sign that said my wife beat cancers a
SS Let's go Reds and Tyler Stevenson saw the sign
and was sent to congratulations by having his bat.

Speaker 5 (01:18:30):
From the night's game signed and delivered to her. And
I think that's pretty awesome.

Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
It's little things like that.

Speaker 4 (01:18:35):
It is this is and it's it's very baseball and
how can you not be romantic about baseball?

Speaker 2 (01:18:39):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
And I have one more just because there's another dog
in baseball. Okay, every week there's been a dog in baseball.
And the Rays had a poodle poodle sitting in the
dog out fully uniformed like you let me see the team.
There's a picture of him talking to a coach the
full hat, full hat uniform. And I just want to
commend Major Baseball for putting dogs. I have had a

(01:19:04):
feel good story about a dog in Major League baseball.

Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
And it makes me so happy. I love it. I
love it. Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
Okay, so we who are you taking for the Wimbledon
Men's final tomorrow?

Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
Alcharez?

Speaker 3 (01:19:16):
Okay, I'm going center. It's his time in sintcraz.

Speaker 5 (01:19:20):
Okay, right, let's do it.

Speaker 3 (01:19:22):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:19:23):
And on that note, I think looking forward as training.

Speaker 4 (01:19:28):
Camps around the corner rookies. Like I said, chargers rookies
reported today it is coming so fast. I can't believe
it. It's it's kind of crazy. But I'm looking forward to
you guys. Football is backish.

Speaker 2 (01:19:43):
And on the note of summer and summertime flings, did
you see this, Sophia Vergara and Tom Brady were spotted
overseas together.

Speaker 5 (01:19:53):
I did not rebuying.

Speaker 3 (01:19:55):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:19:56):
I kind of I like it.

Speaker 4 (01:19:57):
I always been linked to a number of people over
the last one seems.

Speaker 2 (01:20:01):
The most age appropriate, like icon status appropriate to me.

Speaker 4 (01:20:05):
Yes, I would say that totally like icon status appropriate too.

Speaker 5 (01:20:09):
I really do like it. Boy, He's been linked all over.
Good for Tom.

Speaker 4 (01:20:12):
You know what he is getting over a tough you know, breakup, divorce,
and then his ex wife just had a baby with
someone else. So Tom is outliving his best life overseas
and I love that for him. Also go blue, all right, Yeah,
that's what.

Speaker 5 (01:20:27):
I have for you.

Speaker 4 (01:20:29):
This has been a very fun day in which we
have covered so many topics and just any publicists listening,
please go out there and help the sharks.

Speaker 5 (01:20:38):
Yes, because we feel they need better.

Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
Shark Week it starts July twentieth, and they need all
the love and celebration we can shower upon them.

Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
Yeah, that's my one task for you.

Speaker 5 (01:20:48):
For me to start loving show, just watch.

Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
Watch five minutes of Shark Week.

Speaker 5 (01:20:52):
Okay, I mean I will.

Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
It's informative. Learn a new shark fact.

Speaker 4 (01:20:55):
I Am going to learn a new shark fact, and
then you guys are going to learn all kinds of
fun facts next on Fox Sports Saturday with Steve Hartman
and Anita Marx. We've had the best time with you
today and we'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
