Third Law with LaVar airy Ten as a defensive guy.

TJ houshman Zana.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
I'm just bringing the viewers into how grown men in
the locker room, Like I don't play with some dude.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
That you disrespect them anyway, it didn't matter who it
was they was putting hands on.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
You and Blaxico Burrut they.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Are the same person, the same exact quarterback.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
It's a show with three.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
I'm the best to ever do it on and off
the field. And now live from the Fox Sports Radio studios,
here's Silver Bowl champion Blaxico burres Man sitting in for
the guys.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Here's Dan Fire.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
It is that time of year, welcome in. Not only
is the start of training camp, but this is the
second annual Plaques and buyer reunion. On up on game.
Let's go. How you doing? Oh man?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Everything is great, man, It's a lovely Saturday morning man
out here on the East coast. Man. The weather it's
almost coach. The purpose not not as good as California,
but uh, it's a good morning so far, so there's
a great start, man, and football is in the air.
I can smell the hot dogs in a Hamburger burning
on the drill.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
All still a couple hours away for us here on
the West Coast, but it's gonna be here soon enough.
Is this the time of year that you love or
is this the time of year that you dread because
it's training camp? Because I was never a back to
school kid, hated going back to school. Summer was the best.
I didn't want to go to class, didn't want to
(01:44):
do any of that. So I get the excitement of football.
But which is it for you? Love it or hate it?
As training campus here, you know what, it's a love
hate relationship. I really have to say that. I have
to say that it's fifty to fifty because when you
know you're going into a brand new season, I mean,
you know, everybody's expectations of themselves going into the season
is obviously to get get better than what they were
(02:06):
last year. Obviously the goal is to you know, get
into the tournament. You know, get get into the get
into the tournament, win your division, and hopefully be able
to play for a World championship. But at the same time,
it's like schools around the corner. So I go back
to being a full time dad. My birthdays in a
(02:28):
few weeks, and it just kind of seems like, as
August creeps in, his football season is.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Going to start. But also you know that you have
to start waking back up at six point thirty in
the morning and taking your daughter to school.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's a it's a rough one. I
would think as a player too, like like what you
guys had to deal with back then.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Now the practices seem like a little bit piece of cake.
These practices, Yeah, they're not even tough. They don't even
tackle to the ground. We had two days had Bill
Cowen coach Coughlin. I mean when I got to New
York in five we came out of the gate with
five straight to a day, five in a row, and
(03:13):
about the sixth day, my quad had tapped out, and
I was like, you know what, I think I've burned
a clutch. So I think I'm going to sit out
a couple of days.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Somebody being burned to clutch a big name in the NFL.
We're gonna get to that later on in the program.
It is funny you talk about school though, do you
talk about the old days of training camp? I don't
know what it is now, but I see, like, I've
got neighbors who are teenagers, and it's like ten forty
five in the morning and they're going to school and
I'm like, shouldn't you have been to school three hours ago?
They're like, I don't have class till eleven. Sometimes you'll
(03:45):
see them at one o'clock they're like, yeah, I'm done
for the day. Like what happened at eight am till three?
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Like?
Speaker 4 (03:50):
What happened to that? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
May I see the kids getting off a bus at
at twelve o'clock, I'm like, what did you have a
half a day? Then was like, no, I had a
block today. I'm like, what the hell is a block?
So I guess they're on A block and B block
and C block. They have two classes and they come
home for lunch like Dad, I'm hung. I'm like, why
didn't you eat lunch at school? And well, I didn't
(04:14):
have lunch today because I was I had a block.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
It's just the craziest thing.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Has you know happened you know, over the last you know,
ten or fifteen years with Yeah, in school situation, and
then they just they have days off that you never
even heard of, like why don't you go to school
this morning? Or we have off the day, like what's
the day is? Oh is teacher is teacher trip day?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Like?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
What the hell is teacher trip day? They're taking trips
during the school year and I'm paying twenty five thousand
dollars a year for you at a private school and the
teachers are taking trips, Like what's going on?
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Oh my goodness, it is so spot on. Just a
random Wednesday they're not at school doesn't make any sense.
Growing up, there was a hard schedule of a couple
of days off at October, you're off for Thanksgiving, you're
off for a week plus at Christmas, and then spring
break and that was basically it maybe a day or
two in January, but yeah, it is. It is crazy,
(05:09):
kind of like NFL training camps are. Let's dive into that.
Your former team mentioned Tom Coughlin. Obviously, the New York
Giants are on the news because of their quarterback situation.
Brian Dable earlier this week stating Russell Wilson is our
guy right now. This for a team that took Jackson
Dart in the first round and having Jameis Winston on
(05:29):
the roster. I don't think it's a surprise. I don't
think that you're shocked that Russell Wilson is going to
be the number one guy. I just wonder, Plaques, how
long can the Giants go with Russell Wilson, And when
they inevitably, which I think is inevitable, make the move
off of Wilson, do you still try to hold Jackson
(05:50):
Dart off. Do you move Jameis Winston into that starting spot?
Do you put Jackson Darty in hoping that he can
just you know, hit the ground running and grabbed the
starting spot for the next decade. Pluster Show When Brian
Dabos says that Russell Wilson is the guy, what do
you hear from from the Giants head coach?
Speaker 2 (06:10):
You know what, I completely understand it. I mean, obviously,
you know, being in this market and you know Russe
With Russell Wilson joining this organization, I think that Brian
dave Ball just really just came out and made the
statement that you know what, Russell Wilson is going to
be starting quarterback, so he doesn't have to answer this
question every single Day because they're not going to stop.
(06:31):
You know how this media is, and you know they
want to concrete, definitive answer of who's going to be
the starting quarterback. But it doesn't mean that Jameis Winston
and Jackson Dark are not competing to be the starting
quarterback for this team. I think I think Brian day
Ball made that decision to kind of quiet the birds
(06:52):
a little bit so they could really focus on the
task at hand, and you know, trying to gather rapport
with Russell Wilson with these wide receivers and just let
the team know that he is going to be our leader.
So I think with that decision being made, it gives
Russell a little bit more confidence that they have the
faith in him that he can go out and lead
(07:13):
this team and hopefully get them to a playoff situation
that they haven't been to and over a decade. But
I think it's a smart move by him. But I'm
just looking at the schedule. The New York Giants probably
have one of the, if not the toughest schedule in
all of football, and I'm looking at game one. You
go to the Washington Commanders. That's not going to be
(07:36):
an easy win. Especially down in Washington. I believe that
Jayden Dais is on his way to being in an
elite quarterback in this league, may be two to three
top quarterback ranking when it's all said and done. And
then you go to Dallas and that's going to be
their first home game. They're going to be riled up.
Brian Schottenham and his opening day at Dallas Stadium playing
(07:57):
against a rival New York Giants. Think it's going to
be a tough atmosphere for the Giants to go on
the road and win that game. And then your first
home game, you get the Kansas City Chiefs and it
just looks like to me and I'm I'm you know,
I'm optimistic. I'm optimistic about you know, my football team.
(08:18):
I love my g men, but it's gonna be a
tough start for them coming out of the gate. And
I believe that, you know, if Russell Wilson, if they
don't win one of these three games, you know how
this media base is going to react. Oh yeah, you know,
let's start to look at Jackson Dart right now, whatever
the case may be.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Because I don't believe at.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
The end of the day, I think that jameis Winston
is going to be the odd man out. I don't
believe you keep both of these veteran quarterbacks on the roster.
If Russell doesn't get off to a good start, if
he's not playing or winning brand of football, you bring
in Jackson Dart. So either either way, you have a
veteran quarterback that could kind of mentor him, you know,
(09:01):
down the stretch. But I just think from you know,
looking at this schedule and the fourth game of the
season you get the Los Angeles Chargers here in New Jersey,
I think it's gonna be a tough first month for
the New York Giants. But from the quarterback standpoint, I
believe at some point in this season that Jackson dot
(09:23):
will be underscended and he will be the start quarterback
for this football team.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
I'll tell you what plaques is not off base because
when you look at the strength of schedule opponents for
the National Football League, the New York Giants have the
toughest schedule in the NFL, with an opponent winning percentage
from from last season at fifty seven percent. So to
(09:47):
put that in comparison to the team of the easiest schedule,
San Francisco, San Francisco's opponent winning percentage from last year's
forty one percent. So yeah, so so your with your
opponent winning percentages five seventy four and we're getting close
to sixty and you're in a division with the with
the Eagles, with the Commanders. You know, I'll tell you
(10:09):
what for all of Dallas's problems, like, they're still gonna
score points, still gonna score a bunch of bunch of points.
So you got that to deal with. And then you
mentioned you got to go and face the AFC West
last year, which put three teams in the postseason. It's
not going to be easy, and you point to those
first two games. I've even read plaques from from Giants
based outlets. I was gonna call them blogs, but I
(10:33):
couldn't remember if it was blogs or reports or what.
But they're even talking about that Week three home game,
like of just coming back from Kansas City and maybe
making a change already, Like I get Brian Dable saying
Russell Wilson's going to be our guy, right, and it's
the safe thing to do. If you didn't say anything,
if you said something otherwise, then you're doing what you're
(10:55):
feeding right into that to that New York media, But
I'm there with you, like Tommy DeVito is still there.
We don't talk about Tommy DeVito much. But you have
a quarterback room. Why would you need Jameis Winston if
then russ is gonna be number one and at some
point you're gonna get Jackson Dart And you'd have to
think there's gonna be a team around the NFL somewhere
that's gonna want a quarterback and wouldn't want to pay
(11:16):
whatever Kirk Cousins would have the cost to bring in.
And so I think that the Jameis Winston analysis is
fair because I don't think that you can wait, if
you're the Giants to turn it over to Jackson Dart
if Russell Wilson isn't working out, the.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Giants have to win right now. I mean, it's playing
and simple be you know the fan base and you
know ownership, and you know everybody in this area. You
know they are just sick and tide of the Giants
that the product that they have been being able to
put out on the football field for the last decade
or so. I mean, it's really time for Brian dave
(11:50):
Ball in this organization to kind of turn this thing around,
and this schedule is really not helping them in any
sense of the way for them to you know, you know,
have a winning season. And even a Sunday night game
here in New Jersey, it's a Sunday night game against
the Kansas City Chiefs. I mean, that's not going to
(12:12):
be a favorable game for them on a national spotlight.
We are going to see what the New York Giants
are made of. And just like you said, I can
see Brian day Ball in this organization making a switch
at quarterback. If the Giants do happen to go on
to three out of the gate with the Los Angeles
Chargers coming into the building, that they say, you know what,
(12:34):
we are not going to sacrifice this season, the last
fourteen games of the season with Russell Wilson that quarterback.
If the New York Giants do get off to an
ow and three start.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Hugh's plexica bursts. I'm Dan Bayer, It's up on game
on Fox Sports Radio. One more before we take a
time out, because we know day Ball and Joe Shane
are on the hot seat. Yes, how much does that
way in because we saw it with the Jets last season,
Salah gone early and now you got to play the
rest of the string without him. Didn't save Joe Douglas's job.
(13:10):
He's ending up out of the Jets front office as well.
Do you think that you could see something similar because
of this schedule because they're likely to get off to
a bad start. Do you think Joe Shane ends up
shaking anything up with Brian Dable as both of their
jobs are on the line.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
To be honest with you, I don't believe that John
Marrin Steve Tisch will make a you know, mid season
decision on whether Brian day Ball is going to retain
his position as the head coach as far as this
twenty twenty five season is concerned. But I will say
that if they do not put up a record which
(13:50):
is you know, respectable and go out and put a
team out on a football field that can win football games,
I believe they're both going to be out at the
same time because they came in together, and I believe
that John Merrill is going to step in and they're
making an executive decision and kind of just you know,
start this whole thing over from a general manager standpoint
(14:12):
and a head coach and I'm looking at this schedule
and I actually have people coming up to me and saying,
the NFL gave the New York Giants the hardest schedule
in the league this year, so they could be in
the position to get the first pick in the NFL draft.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
And that's what people are saying. Yeah, and that's how
mad it is. You know why though, then maybe draft
a quarterback with the NA manning on the back of
the jersey.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
You know, that's what it's all about.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Yes, that's that's exactly what it's all about. It is
funny this schedule just because because not like the NFL
is funky this year. And I mentioned that the forty
nine ers have the easiest h schedule when it comes
to opponent winning percentage because of who the NFC West
faces this year. And that's that's the luck of the
(15:07):
draw of it. Like it's bad enough the Giants are
in the division, then they have to play the AFC
West as their their cross division matchup, and then they're
within conference. Showdown is with the NFC North that took
three teams to the playoffs last season. So it's yeah,
it is murderers ro truly, there are there are two,
(15:27):
and I don't even know if the coin flip games.
Maybe Saints they go to New Orleans in early October
and then they have a game against the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Saints, I'm looking at the Saints. Green Bay is going
to be a tough game. Obviously, going to Detroit is
going to be tough.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
No matter, there's only two games they may win. It
could be the Saints or the Patriots. As we look
on paper at this point on July twenty sixth, that's
how bad it is.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
It is brutal. It's a brutal schedule. Man, it really is.

to our Fox Sports Radio videos on YouTube. If you're
watching the Browns, you're not seeing much of shed Or
Sanders fourth on the depth chart, not necessarily surprising, not
getting reps with the number ones. Dylan Gabriel finally did,
but it's been more of the Kenny Pickett Show with
Joe Flacco, the longtime vet also getting some work as
(20:04):
the number one. But can he Pickett right now? Is
QB one in Cleveland? Shud Or Sanders QB four in Cleveland.
He's handled really, really well speaking with the media. A
lot of times the four string quarterback doesn't get a
lot of conversation at training camps. But we obviously are
talking about Shador. He's taking it in stride. Was pointed
out in one of the Cleveland media members that the
(20:25):
Browns are low on wide receivers, so Shaudor's ending up
throwing to sometimes equipment guys or other staffs. But but
that there's a welcome to the NFL moment. But what
do you expect from the from the fifth round pick
that's currently doing anything that he can just to get
maybe a snap with the ones, you know, just be
(20:46):
kind of.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Just trying to just wrap my head around his whole situation,
you know, him having the you know, the college career
that he had, and at one point of the season
last year, he was you know, arguably one A, one
B may be the second pick in the quarterback in
the draft behind cam Ward and we all saw what
happened on draft Day. Uh I really, I honestly believe
(21:11):
that a lot of this, a lot of the things
that are happening with the true door are not football
related because you just don't be able to You just
don't go from being one of the best quarterbacks in
college football and dropped down to the fifth rund. I
just think that, you know, everything that transpired between the
end of the season him going down to the NFL Draft,
(21:32):
you know, that's when everything just kind of you know,
seekd in and he had or he heard all these
negative things coming out of these organizations about the way
that he handled these meetings, and you know, for him
being being the fourteen quarterback just like you said, and
that they're lower on wide receivers and sometimes he's throwing
to equipment guys and things things like that. The position
(21:54):
that he's in now, he's not going to get a
lot of reps. So he really has to go out
and produce, make good decisions, you know, be accurate with
the football, be on time, not turn it over because
his opportunities are going to be limited. And you know,
if I'm looking at Shador Sanders and Dylan Gabriel and
I'm looking at this quarterback room, the decision that they
(22:18):
have to make with cutting one of these four young men. Well,
obviously Joe's not young and he's just as old as
I am, but that's a different story. But I'm looking
at the Cleveland Browns quarterback room and It's probably going
to be one of the most difficult situations that I
think Andrew Berry and Stefanski and his staff has to
make it. Who's going to be Who are they going
(22:40):
to let it go? Because I don't believe that you
can afford to let go Dylan Gabriel because we really
don't know if he is what he's going to turn
out to be. I believe he's a great young talent.
He's going to be a good football player in this
league for a long time. It's just he's just going
to have to get into the right situation from you know,
off offensive standpoint and play to his skill set. And
(23:02):
I believe he's going to have a lot of success
from from first George Shandon's standpoint. I really believe that
he's a he's a good football player and he can
go basically anywhere and be productive. Is he going to
be a star quarterback in this league? We don't know that,
but we do know that you know in the next
few you know, three or four or five years that
(23:23):
you know he can be one of these, you know,
good young quarterbacks in this league. But if you look
at Joe Flacco on the other hand, obviously believe that
you have to keep Joe Flacco in this quarterback room
because he is really the only proven guy that you
can put out on the field and say, you know what,
Joe Flacco gives this team an opportunity to win this
(23:44):
game today, So you have to keep him. But for
you look at Kenny Pickett. He's basically getting all the
reps with the Ones. But I don't think I don't
believe that he is the future for the Cleveland Browns
as being a starting quarter the back of his franchise.
So I think when it's all, when the dust clears
and everything settles, I believe this quarterback room will will
(24:08):
will consist of Joe Flacco, Dylan Gabriel, and Shador Sanders,
depending on what happens in the preseason training camp, if
somebody gets injured, or whatever the case may be. But
just because Kenny Pickett is is getting all the reps
with the ones and training camp, that really doesn't mean anything.
But I think when it comes down to the business
(24:30):
side of making the decisions, I believe that Kenny Pickett
is going to be odd man outs.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
It may not be. It may be surprising to hear
that it shouldn't be shocking. I think obviously with Flacco
you can you can deal with this workload no matter again,
if training gamps are easier now than they weren't twenty
years ago. But you don't have to give Flaco everything. Plus,
he was in your building two years ago, so he's
got some familiarity to it, and it was the Browns
on fault that he didn't come back last year and
(25:01):
be a member of that organization. I think there's a
decent chance Pleox that the Browns feature quarterback isn't even
on this roster right now. And I went one eighty
on an opinion that I had earlier this week. When
I heard Andrew Berry, he was kind of asked like,
is there a way that you could have four quarterbacks
on the roster? Wasn't wasn't a directed question to make
(25:22):
him really answer the question. So he kind of worked
around it, you know, said that you know there could
be a pathway or the question was is there a pathway?
And he said yes, absolutely. I just I don't see it.
I think your scenario makes a lot more sense. My
only issue is is it feels like Stefanski and Barry,
(25:42):
who were not excited when the Door Sanders pick was
made during the draft, like just the video shot of them,
and we're all saying, oh, this is a Jimmy Haslim pick,
this is this is an ownership move. This is their
way of putting an end to that to say, like,
all right, we got Kenny Pickett taking the ones. Now
Flacco's gonna get some Guess what as we as we
(26:04):
move along, we're gonna throw Dylan Gabriel in with some
first team reps like Shadour is the only one that didn't.
And Stefanski even said that in week two of camp
they'll have more of a more of a clear picture
of how they want to proceed with their quarterback snaps. Well,
right now that doesn't even include Shadoor Sanders. So it's
it's such as it's such a mess. But I feel
like Stefanski is kind of putting his foot down to
(26:27):
what they did in the draft, not burying Shador, but
not giving them any favors. And I thought earlier this
week Plaques that maybe Dylan Gabriel would have to completely
outperform Shador because of all the hype around Shador, but
that doesn't seem the case. It seems like Cleveland's kind
of squashing it right now and going to figure out
their own plan and maybe put Kenny Pickett on display
(26:49):
for any of the other thirty one teams that may
come into a quarterback dilemma. Yeah, you know, the uh.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
You know, it does change doing training cap So I
have to agree with kind of fan skiing how the
quarterback reps go. You know, week one is different from
week two, So maybe get Dylan Gabriel will start the
practice off with the ones, and you know he'll get
the first seven to eight plays and first ten plays
in a twenty play drive, and then Shador Sander will
(27:17):
come in and get the other ten plays with the
first team. So it does change up as training camp
goes on. But I just, you know, I just believe.
I don't think that Andrew Barry can carry four quarterbacks
on a roster because you lose a roster spot that
you may need from a wide receiver room or special
teams or whatever the case may be. I think it'll
(27:38):
be the first team in NFL history to carry in
four quarterbacks on an NFL roster because you do need
that actra roster spot. But I just think moving forward,
they're going to have to find a way to get
all of these guys the equal amount of reps because
it's really hard to judge a young player when a
(27:59):
guy like you or Sanders is he's going on and
he's playing playing with the threes. A lot of the
threes in the NFL don't make the final routs, so
they don't make the cut, so they're basically playing against
guys who are in college again, so it's really hard
to judge. So I don't think until Dylan, Gabriel and
Shada Sanders get out there and be able to compete
(28:22):
with the starting defense and that that second there that
they have that they can really evaluate these young players
and say, you know what, we are going to keep
Dylan or should do or whatever the case may be,
because they gotta they will be able to evaluate them
with them playing against the starting defense.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Maybe that's the genius. Stefanski knows the equipment guys are
going to be there in the fall, so that's.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Why, well they not going over. They hope they're not
going anywhere.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
East Flexico Urus, I'm dead Byer, I'm in for LeVar
Arrington and t J. Huschman Zada. On this episode of
Up On game. Let's head over to the news stask
guys at Glowing Crin giving the latest of what's happening
on this Saturday that we'll drive into what the heck
is going on with the NFLPA. What's going on? Isaac?
Speaker 1 (29:05):
That's right?
Speaker 7 (29:05):
No, a block days on this show, guys, absolutely, Oh
you know plaques. My kids have minimum days every Wednesday.
They have a minimum day once every week. Can you
believe that? Where was that when we were growing up?
Speaker 4 (29:20):
What does a minimum day consist of?
Speaker 2 (29:22):
ILove?
Speaker 7 (29:22):
It means more work for us parents because they go
home early. I mean we might have had one minimum
day every three years when I was growing Oh, maybe
I'm exaggerating that a little bit. Yankees fans are hoping
that we're exaggerating the seriousness of the concern about superstar
Aaron Judge. He is not in the lineup for today's
game against the Philadelphia Phillies because of an elbow issue.
(29:45):
Here are the details from Yankees manager Aaron Boone a
short time ago.
Speaker 8 (29:49):
Just last night, was really dealing with he couldn't really
throw a well from the outfield, so he got imaging today.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
So we'll kind of wait on that.
Speaker 8 (29:57):
It was more about throwing last night, like he couldn't
really get the ball in very well. So one them
down and get the imaging, get her hands around.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Just what exactly we're dealing with.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
In the NFL, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields took
part in individual and seven on seven drills today, just
two days after Fields sustained a dislocated toe on his
right foot. The Miami Dolphins reportedly signing veteran defensive back
Mike Hilton. Earlier today. The Dolphins signed cornerback Jack Jones,
this after cornerback Already Burns towards ACL in practice earlier
(30:30):
this week. Jones started sixteen games last season for the
Las Vegas Raiders. Dan and Plax back to.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
You, thank you very much. Isaac hit him up at
Isaac Loewenkron. What is going on with the NFL Players Association? Plex?
I mean, it's it's one thing after another. Lloyd Howell
is dirty, laundry is aired, JC Treder's outs now, teams
are diving in the ESPN reports the FEDS are investigating
(30:59):
the NFL Players Association.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
What is going on with your union right now? Uh? Uh,
obviously it's in disarray. That's the best way you can
explain it.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
They're having a bunch of minimum days right now.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
I'll tell you that much. Yes they are. Nobody's answered
the phone over there either or return an email. So
you know, best of luck to anybody who's trying to
get in contact with the nfl PA at this time.
But you know, a lot of things are just going on,
and uh, you know, obviously we know what happened with Lil'howell.
You know last week he resigned for you know, having
(31:34):
having a lot of fun down there in South Florida.
It's kind of seemed like but uh, Jac tried to
step in down I believe he just got tired of
ben a pin cushion, you know, people asking him all
the questions and covering for everybody and you know, trying
to you know, minimize everything that's going on and investigations
(31:56):
that are currently happening. So hopefully, you know, somebody can
get a whole on this thing, because the season has
basically already started and we as the players, need the
NFL Players Association to be there for us and for
right now, it's just you can't explain, you know, some
of the things that are going on. I just hope
(32:16):
they get it together soon. The VH one had best
week ever, NFLPA may have worst week ever. I know,
Chris Purfat or technical producer.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Are are you? I don't want to say loving this, Chris,
but this has got to just be it's one thing
after another.
Speaker 9 (32:33):
I I am maybe because I covered some like union
stories when I was working in media around Michigan, but like,
these kind of things fascinate me. I know Treder has
been rightly criticized for a long time about just and
this is like, look, this is the weakest union in
sports next to the most powerful league. And the league
(32:54):
kind of reminded it of this because like, immediately we
have Treder and Lloyd Howill gone, and immediately, what do
the Raiders do? They cut Christian Wilkins and void money
that's supposed to be guaranteed, immediately filed to a grievance.
But you're doing this while the union is headless. I
think the league smells blood in the water and they
don't want the union back on their feet because at
(33:15):
some point this state of affairs just can't keep going
the way it is, like, you can't keep having the
union keep getting beat around the Bush every time there's
there's labor negotiations it but it really does feel like
the league is like going to try to take advantage
of this as long as they possibly can.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
How in the world, why is it so weak plaques?
I mean this way, maybe it's hitting too close to home,
but is it? Is it the discrepancy from like the
best players to the to the guys who who who
maybe aren't on that level. Is it just the amount
of players that that are in the union?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Why is why? Why is there seem to be difficulty?
I just I just think is this overload? You know,
you have thirty two teams and we're talking about fifty
three man rosters and not only the current players, we're
talking about former players also from decades ago that they
have to kind of figure out and deal with with
(34:13):
the claims and benefits and all of these things. I
just really don't think that they can handle the amount
of things that they that they have to take care of,
especially you know now with you know, all these new
things that are going on with this new league is
basically what I call it, and trying to fix what
is currently wrong, trying to accommodate the current players with
(34:40):
put them in the best situations from a you know,
grievance standpoint, a safety standpoint, and now you're dealing with
you know, the former players, you know, wanting benefits and
kickbacks and you know, injuries and claims and all those things.
I just think it's just a mass just overhaul of
issues that they are dealing with, and they let it
(35:03):
get away from them, especially right now, especially with the
whole thing with the Christian watching things. That's not going
to fly on anybody's watch. I read, I read the
whole story for him. For them to release a man
with guaranteed money on his contract that is old to him,
I don't even know what they were thinking, to be
honest with you, because he's going to get his guaranteed
(35:24):
money regardless. And I don't even know why they will
make a decision to cut an injured player from what
I understand, that has guaranteed money in his contract that
is old to him, and they still made a decision
to release this young man anyway, which is which fathoms me.
(35:44):
I don't understand why they would do that.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
I don't know. All I can tell you is this
because I don't know if it's if it's real or not.
But I've already seen this morning stuff about the leaks
coming out which would be beneficial to the Raiders to
be like, hey, there may have been more going on
behind the scenes. And so this is more that the
directionless NFLPA is going to have to fight because it
(36:07):
sure seems that some of this information that's coming out
would try to benefit the Raiders to aid their case
and explaining on why they did what they did with
Christian Wilkins. My final question on the topic of this
is to you about leadership. Does it have to be
a former player because that's where all signs go for
(36:28):
the next executive director? You know Genupshaw was the last
former player to head that role. Is that where do
you think that's where we're likely added for the next leadership.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
I don't believe it has to be a former player.
It has to be somebody that's going to come in
and do this job and do this job the right way.
I have trust, the players have to have trust in
him that he is going to go he or she
is going to go into the office every day and
the players are going to be the priority. That's all
(36:58):
the players want. They want to be taken care of
and they want to know that every morning they step
in that facility, will step on the field, that the
NFLPA and the Union has their back no matter what
the situation may entell. But it does not have to
be a former player. They're going to have to find
a way to get this PA back to when listen,
(37:20):
when Gene Upshaw was the was the director for the PA,
the Players Union was awesome. So we have to get
back to that model. Whatever it may be. God rest
his soul, but the NFL PA needs a leader. It
does not have to be a former player, just it
has to be somebody at the Players Trust.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
He's Paxical Burroughs. I'm Dan Byer. He is the former player.
I'm still trying to figure out, like Isaac Lohncrown and
so many of us, sorry what our minimum days. Hit
him up at black Scull Burroughs. I actually can find
me at dan Byer on Fox. Have been a bunch
of headlines in the NFL this week, including a star
wide receiver that's going to be put on the shelf
for a little bet. We'll dive into that next here
and up on Game on Fox Sports Radio. It's up
(38:01):
on Game on Fox Sports Radio. He's Plexico Burris, super
Bowl Champ, NFL VET. I'm Dan Byer in for LaVar
Arrington and TJ huschman Zada. I know people are freaking out,
They're like, where's LeVar, Where's TJ? Let me back next week.
Plax and I do this once a year. It's our
second annual get together, so we hope he can hang
(38:21):
out and have some fun. That's all.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
It is.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
A jilan on a Saturday. Bill Benzon is here. Executive
producer Chris Burffett or technical producer in Isaac Lowncron has
all the breaking news and headlines of the day at
the news desk. I figured it would be a great way.
It's training Cam to do some NFL wind sprints. Don't worry,
you can still sit in your chair. You don't have
to get up flex, no need to do. So let's
go through some of the stuff that we've had happening
(38:46):
in the NFL this week, kind of in rapid fire fashion.
Let's get the band going and do it in Fox
NFL style. We go yeah, yeah, doesn't that that gets
your week? Go? So the Vikings are saying, justin Jefferson's
going to be missing practices through the weekend. He'll be
reevaluated next week with a mild straight hamstring.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
How one of the NFL's best on the shelf early
on plaques. What's your takeaway from what's happening in the
Twin Cities.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Oh, man, it's kind of unfortunate. Man. I've had a
couple of hamstring injuries and they don't go away. Justin
Jefferson miss missed us significant time last year with the
same injury. You don't want you you don't want the
best wide receiver all of football to begin the season
with a straight hamstring because it's something that's gonna linger.
It's not going it's going to be there for the
rest of the season. And most importantly, you know, getting
(39:40):
getting getting back on the field and gathering a report
with JJ McCarthy because we still haven't seen him in
action yet. We want to be able to evaluate him
with the guys that he's going to be playing on
Sundays with. But not having JJ out there to start
the training camp and not being able to see how
him and JJ McCart off the is going to work together.
(40:01):
I believe it's going to set this offense back a
little bit. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
I don't want to read too much into it, but
I just know it's not good news for the Minnesota
Vikings good news for the Bengals. Yeah, one of the
off season stories has not been taken care of. Shamar
Stewart signed. The first round pick gets a fully guaranteed contract.
Bengals get the language in the contract that they wanted.
Stuart ends up getting a little bit more of his
signing bonus earlier. It took a while, Plax, but Shamar Stewart,
(40:26):
the final first round pick, has finally signed. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Yeah, a bizarre situation. I just don't I want to
know what prompted the Cincinnati Bengals to insert this language
and in his contract. Because he's a young man. He's
never been in trouble. He never had any issues in college.
But I don't know if somebody got in their ear
behind the scenes and said they were getting different reports
(40:51):
of what this young man is really like. But it
was an unfortunate situation in the beginning. But he's back
on the football field now this and that he Bengals
can really focus on the defense and try to get
Trey Hendrickson back on his football field and get him signed.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Did you ever keep stats during training camp of what
you have done? Why would you ever do that? Bo
Benson is asking the same question.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
This is.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Yeah, Bo, what's the deal with practice stats?
Speaker 10 (41:23):
Well, it's something I think you're seeing more now that
there's a twenty four to seven news cycle. But Bears
fans have been panicking. Some radio hosts have been throwing
him away already because he threw two interceptions yesterday. But
the good news is that Adam Hadja, a guy who
covers the Bears, tweeted that Caleb had his best practice
of the training campus today. So everything's fine and no
(41:44):
one needs to wow, have any nuance or anything.
Speaker 9 (41:47):
They feel like people do not understand the point of
these practices, pushing things to like didn't Yeah. I think
we mentioned earlier Aaron Rodgers during an interception early too,
and everyone panicking in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
I saw Friar move up his hands and somebody wrote,
like Aaron Rodgers dunking off passes again, dumping them off underneath?
Speaker 9 (42:07):
Where is it on my board?
Speaker 10 (42:08):
We we have to we have to go to the
man hold on here he is.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Talking about practice.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
Oh, not a game, not not the game dead the
game and Daffle.
Speaker 4 (42:20):
I'll tell you what I Doug the Browns brown helmet
they released this week. I can't get with the Packers throwback.
I just nobody wants throwbacks from one hundred years ago.
NFL you need to pay attention. He's Flexiico Burus. I'm
Dan byer Up on game continues talking about the union
and tickets on
