(01:48):
story yesterday, absolutely massive story that I think many of
you may not know the significance of yet, and so
I want to jump right into it. It's gonna be
the number one story in all of your newspapers this morning.
I'm looking right now at the front page of the
Wall Street Journal and the headline is A T and
(02:09):
T beats us in antitrust fight. Judge backs eighty billion
Time Warner deal. As media companies I the wave of consolidation.
Tons of articles about it. I've read them all. I've
dissected it all. I've read a lot of the report
of the ruling from the judge. Uh top of the
New York Times merger decision is a green light for
(02:30):
deal making. A T and T gets Time Warner blow
to Justice department in case closely watched by companies. Those
are as big of stories as exist anywhere in the
world of media and just in the world in general. Again,
that's the New York Times in the Wall Street Journal,
both with the above the fold top of the story.
So what does it mean for the world of sports?
(02:52):
If you're not familiar, A T and T, which is
approaching now a three hundred billion dollar company, last year
decided they were going to try to buy Time Warner. Now,
if you're out there right now and you're thinking, okay,
what what in the world of sports does a T
n T own? And what does Time Warner own, it's
(03:13):
a good question to be asking. Well, A T and
T now owns Direct TV, and Direct TV, as many
of you know, has the NFL Sunday ticket. So if
you are a Direct TV subscriber, you can get every
single NFL game, including those that are out of your market,
and you're able to watch them on NFL Sunday Ticket.
(03:33):
That is a pretty popular offering that Direct TV has.
What does Time Warner have? Well, Time Warner has got
a lot of different assets that they have distributed across
their television UH networks. So they have a lot of
you know, UH. They have the NBA on T N
T inside the NBA with Charles Barkley, Kenney Smith and
(03:53):
Ernie Johnson. That's one of their big signature properties. They
effectively have half of the n b A. Most recently
this past season, they had the NBA Western Conference UH playoffs,
so all of those games were on there as well
as a lot of games that were on the Eastern Conference.
Just a lot of assets in general, so they have that.
(04:14):
On top of that, they also have the n c
Double A Tournament, including the title game this year, which
aired I believe on TBS if I'm not mistaken. So
they have all of the first and second, third and
fourth round games UH in conjunction with CBS, and so
they have the games on T N T, TVs and
True Network. UH as they move forward. They also have
(04:38):
some of the Major League Baseball playoffs and some of
the Major League Baseball games in general. The expectation is
that they are now going to get more aggressive. They
also own Bleacher Report, which is become a pretty big
asset for Turner Sports in general. So there is a
lot of assets that they have put together in the
(04:58):
Time Warner and the A T n T bucket. On
top of that, this decision was a big deal, a
very big deal, because the Justice Department had sued to
try to stop it, arguing that it was going to
increase cost for consumer. The judge's opinion in this case
basically kick the Justice Department argument to the curb, and
(05:18):
as a result, A T and T is gonna be
able to buy Time Warner. Then Time Warner is massive.
On top of that, what else do they own. They
own CNN, and they also own HBO, which is obviously
a massive entertainment conglomerate UH that has become a global
behemoth in its own right. So all of those assets
(05:39):
will now be in one company. They will be in
A T and T. UH, So that's worth keeping in mind.
In general, the impact of this spinning forward is gonna
be massive. Now, let's consider this. I'm assuming a lot
of you know this, uh, but a little while ago,
(05:59):
let's say, back in January, I believe it was back
in January, it was officially announced that Disney was gonna
be buying a lot of Fox assets. What assets was
Disney buying from Fox in the sports realm, they were
buying twenty one regional Fox sports networks. And a lot
of you will be watching and door, uh and door,
(06:20):
paying attention to those Fox sports networks in general. They
are really valuable. They hold carry a lot of your
local games. And I'm gonna run through a list of
a lot of those Fox Sports networks and what they
are in terms of the regional Fox Sports networks. But
you guys are probably very very familiar with them in
(06:41):
many in many respects. But they consist of Fox Sports Arizona,
Fox Sports, Carolinas, Fox Sports, Detroit, Fox Sports, Florida, Fox Sports, Indiana,
Fox Sports, Kansas City, Fox Sports, Midwest, Fox Sports, New Orleans,
Fox Sports, North, Fox Sports, Ohio, Fox Sports, Oklahoma, Fox Sports,
San Diego, Fox Sports, South, Fox Sports, Southeast, Fox Sports, Southwest,
(07:04):
Fox Sports, Sun, Fox Sports Tennessee, Fox Sports West uh,
Fox Sports, Wisconsin, Sports Time, Ohio, the Yes Network. I mean,
it is a massive number of these assets that they own,
twenty one of them. So Disney via which also owns
the ESPN, is buying all these assets as well as
(07:26):
the the FX cable network. UM, a lot of different
all of the uh, the Simpsons highlights over the years,
Marvel that that is not owned already by Marvel, so
the the the X Men, Deadpool, Uh, Guardians of the Galaxy,
those kind of things. It's a massive collection of assets
that Disney is trying to buy from Fox. Now. It
(07:48):
does not include standard Fox Sports, it does not include, um,
you know, a variety of Fox News, the main Fox
broadcast network, all those things. But Comcast also wants all
those assets. And so as a result of the judge saying,
hey a T and T you can buy Time, Warner
(08:08):
expectation is at some point today Comcast is going to
enter a rival bid to try to buy these assets
from Fox, and Disney and Comcast are going to end
up in a massive battle the likes of which we
haven't seen a long time. That will have a long
range ripple effect on the world of sports and certainly
(08:30):
media at large. This is a story that you should
be paying attention to. And so some of the larger
takeaways are these, Uh, Turner Sports, which is now part
of A T and T, is gonna be big on
the sports front in years to come. The first time
we're really gonna start to see this, I believe, is
with who buys Monday Night Football because I don't necessarily
(08:53):
believe ESPN is going to be able to afford it
going forward, and that is gonna be a massive question
with what happens in one when that deal is up.
I think Turner is gonna be a big time buyer
at the table because they now have all that A
T and T heft behind them. If you are a
fan of SEC football, the single best deal in the
(09:18):
entire sports universe is CBS is deal to only pay
fifty five million dollars a year for the best SEC
football game of the week. They get first round draft
choice as well as the SEC title game. That thing
is going to go to market, and I would expect
for Turner, Fox, and ESPN to all be interested in
(09:41):
trying to get that asset, as well as maybe Apple,
maybe Amazon. We don't know exactly what is going to happen,
CBS is likely to end up being purchased as well,
potentially alongside Viacom. CBS is going to be in play.
I think if you want to buy a stock and
you're like, how could I make a little bit of
(10:01):
money on this, I think buying CBS stock is not
a bad move. And then finally, what in the world's
gonna happen with Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Apples? So this
is a major seismic time in the world of media
and how that's going to impact sports media and what
is going to occur as everything spends forward, all based
(10:22):
on this a T and T being able to buy
Time Warner ruling that came out yesterday right about four
thirty Eastern UH and since then everybody is running around
like crazy. Comcast is expected to make a major bid
for the Fox assets, like I said today, at some
(10:43):
point in time, and a battle is going to be
underway between Comcast and Disney for these Fox assets. Why
does Comcast and why do Comcast and Disney want the
Fox assets? Because they're competing with Netflix, which has created
a major seismic shock wave throughout the entertainment industry over
its ability to to grow as rapidly and sign up
(11:06):
subscribers as quickly as they have. Uh. Netflix now is
the biggest soul media company, only media company in the world,
which I kind of puts you in perspective. A lot
of you out there probably like, wait, what, Netflix is
bigger than Disney, It's bigger than Comcast, It's bigger than
any other company out there that only interacts in the
(11:27):
world of uh in the world of media. So I
want to open it up a little bit. I'm gonna
bring in the crew. I understand. I put my lawyer
head on there. It might have been a little bit complicated,
but I try to bring you the biggest stories, even
if they are more complicated than you might anticipate, because
I think it makes sense as a sports fan to
be paying attention to stories like these because of their
(11:50):
long range impact and what it can mean for the
way we consume sports. I'll go to Jason Martin here first,
uh and and and let him kind of dive in
uh and and be the voice of reason here. You
heard that open, Jason Martin. If you're sitting out there
as a sports fan, what questions might you have about
what I just laid out there that you know, I
(12:12):
didn't do a good job of answering or kind of
piqued your interest and you think, you know what, this
might be a more interesting question or more explication on
the sports side, I'm really not sure yet, Like what
you didn't cover there, I mean, you covered March Madness,
and you covered you know, the NBA, the Champions League
that Turner Sports now has, uh some of their baseball footprint.
(12:35):
HBO of course has real Sports, and they have some
documentary content DeAndre the Giant documentary for example, and various
things that they do throughout the years. And maybe one
of the reasons they haven't done more is because they
haven't had resources. And now they're gonna have resources. Everybody
under this umbrella is going to have resources. And the
judge basically saying, look, we buy into your argument that
(12:59):
in order or to compete with Netflix, to compete with Amazon,
you need to own this content. So we aren't gonna
look at the potential cost problems for the consumers. The
idea that bills are going up. We don't buy into that.
I guess we'll see, you know, I look at it
and say, you know, they could certainly with the consolidation
(13:21):
method raise prices. But because of the way entertainment happens today,
there are a lot of folks will just go away.
Like I know that you control a lot of content,
but there are people that would just go elsewhere. There
are already a lot of cord cutters. This would just
lead to it. So I don't know that they have
the ability to do this the way that they could
have twenty or twenty five years ago because of the
(13:43):
differences that are out there. But it's huge, I mean,
and you even look past that. There are other mergers.
This was what was called a vertical merger because it
wasn't the same industry. A T and T wasn't directly
in the same industry. That's what they were trying to
merge with Time Warner. But you've got T Mobile trying
to get Sprint. You've got this crazy twenty one century
(14:03):
Fox deal with Disney and Comcast, which is gonna be
fascinating to look at. And then you've got Sinclair trying
to purchase the Tribune Company as well. Those are direct
horizontal mergers because they're in the same but those companies
now feel a lot stronger based on this. What we're
gonna see as a result of this is a whole
lot more consolidation. And maybe the only question I would
(14:25):
have right now, and it's just an opinion question. You
could ask anybody in the world that that has any
expertise on this at all. Is this going to be
good for us? Not us the media, but us the
sports consumer, us the entertainment consumer. Is this going to
be something we're gonna look back in in fifteen years
(14:45):
and wonder what the hell were we thinking letting this happen. Yeah.
I think the larger question is, and I think this
is a question that a lot of sports fans have,
is how am I gonna get my games? I mean,
if you if you think back what we have seen
over the past, I would say twenty issue years, twenty
five years is we've gotten to the point now where
(15:07):
almost any game you want to see you can see.
And what I mean by that is it doesn't matter
if you If you are a fan of a small
college school. For instance, I went to George Washington University,
I can almost watch every George Washington basketball game that
I want to. Uh. If you are a fan of
a major, blue blood program, you've probably been able to
(15:28):
do that for a long time. But not only can
I watch low level, you know basketball. And I don't
mean that in a pejorative way. I just mean there's
not that many people who, in a grand scheme of things,
care about a ten basketball versus there's a huge number
of people that would care about the SEC game of
the week, or NFL Sunday Night Football, or the Big
ten biggest game of the week, those kind of things.
(15:50):
What I think is interesting is will we end up
in an era that is somewhat more restrictive where the
sports rights fees are getting so expensive that they're gonna
be more difficult for average fans to get as part
of the cable bundle. If you've got a regular cable
or satellite subscription right now, you can watch most games.
(16:12):
What I would like to see, is, for instance, the
sports world not move toward the direction of the NFL
Sunday Ticket. I think the NFL Sunday ticket is too restrictive.
In other words, I think everybody out there should be
able to pick whichever NFL game they want to watch,
and they should be able to sit down and watch it.
Much like right now, if you're an n C Double
(16:32):
A tournament fan, you can watch any n C double
a tournament game. You know, you you don't have to
sit and watch the only game that airs for you
locally on CBS. You can watch every minute of every game.
If you've got multiple televisions, you can put them on
and watch every game happen in real time. I would
like to see this giving this the average sports fan
(16:53):
more access to the games they want, as opposed to less.
And certainly there's a lot of people listening to us
who have and involved in these battles on a local level.
We had a lot of questions when we talked to
Rich Greenfield about this potential earlier this week on I
guess it was Monday. I think it was when a
(17:13):
lot of you were saying, hey, hey, I'm a Dodgers fan.
I just want to be able to watch the Dodgers
on television and not have to worry about it. I
hope that doesn't end up becoming more prevalent across the
country as everybody tries to restrict restrict that access. So
I do think this is, uh, this is a big deal.
As we kind of move into the new frontier, what
(17:33):
is your access to games going to be? Like? Is
it gonna get better? Is it gonna get more restrictive,
and also, are you gonna be able to stream more?
You know, I criticize ESPN a lot, but I think
they've done a pretty good job with their ESPN app
that if you have a cable or satellite subscription, it's
relatively easy to stream games on ESPN if you're traveling,
(17:54):
if you're out of out of your house, if you're
let's say you're traveling, you know, in a car and
you're like, hey, how want to check on a game?
You can pull it up and watch it pretty easily
on your phone or your iPad, uh, your internet connected
device anywhere in the in the world, almost although there's
obviously some restrictions on on data viewing. You said you
had one more question, Jason. Yeah, I'm reading from Wired,
(18:16):
which is actually the only magazine I still subscribe to regularly,
and it says that trial the d o J focus
its case primarily on the idea that a T and T,
which owns the satellite and streaming TV service direct tv,
could charge rivals more to access content from HBO or
CNN or Turner and withhold those channels, leading to blackouts
for consumers. If rivals refused to pay the higher prices.
(18:38):
Is that something that worries you. I mean, we've seen
that before on on a smaller level, and of course
you have those you know, if the channel's gone or
if it's about to be gone, you see like the
banner going across the bottom of the screen saying, Yep,
your cable company is about to take this away from you.
This is content that you like. That's the only thing
that would bother me is if it turned into something
like that and that becomes a situation where well, you
(18:59):
might not be able to get your games because of
deals between competitors and this conglomerate, this behemoth. I think
the larger issue there is just that so many of
us have gotten used to, Hey, I'm gonna have a
cable or satellite subscription and that's gonna get me everything
that I need, right. I mean, there's so many people
out there that, over the last twenty years have gotten
(19:21):
used to that concept. And then what's happened. Netflix has arisen,
and you may well have a Netflix subscription. Amazon has
a Riven has arisen, and you may well have the
Amazon Prime subscription, which allows you to get a variety
of access to Amazon's products as well. You may well
have a direct Hbo Now subscription that isn't even connected
(19:43):
to your cable cable provider. Hulu is out there, some
people are paying for Hulu, and so I think what
you're gonna see is the great what I would call it,
and a lot of other people have called it this
to de bundling, where everything that you want you're starting
to buy on an olive carte bay asis, and that
sometimes can get more complicated for people because I'll tell you,
(20:03):
in my household, we've got a W W E Network subscription,
we have got a Hulu subscription, We've got an Amazon subscription,
we've got a Netflix subscription, we have a Comcast subscription.
So I mean that's a lot of different bills that
on a subscription basis, are coming due month to month.
And I don't think any of those costs are going
(20:25):
to go down, right, So I think you're just gonna
get more and more used to paying a substantial amount
for those And one reason they're gonna go up is
because Netflix is going to spend eight billion dollars on
content this year and they have to recoup that money somehow.
But you're having to go out now and watch shows,
or watch games, or watch a variety of different programming
(20:47):
that you like on a variety of different devices right now.
So far sports has mostly outside of w w E,
stayed within the traditional bundle. I'm not sure if that's
going to continue to be the case, and I think
sports hands are gonna have to make decisions that are
interesting as they go forward. Obviously, this is a story
that I believe is is fascinating. We come back, We're
(21:07):
gonna dive into the US Open. We're gonna be joined
by Brandt Snedecker, and uh, I think you guys are
are gonna enjoy what he has to say about the
upcoming US Open at Shinnecock Hills. All of that is
on the way. In the meantime, we just hit three
point eight percent interest rates, And if you're paying attention
to the world at large of interest rates, I gotta
(21:27):
tell you, uh sorry, we just hit a three point
eight percent unemployment rate. Interest rates are going up, unemployment
rate is going down, and hiring is hard. Multiple job sites,

(22:55):
joining us momentarily. But first let's find out what's shaken
in the world of sports. Let's give you a i
CO scoreboard from baseball last night. Battle for first in
the NL Central, Brewers blank the Cubs for nothing, Chase
Anderson and three Leavers combining on the two had shut
up from Milwaukee. Is there now a half game in
front of Chicago for the top spot in the NL Central?
Braves over the Mets eight to two. Atlanta, who was
(23:16):
one game up on Washington for the NL East lead
as the Nationals were shut out, but the Yankees three nothing,
Ccsabathew and three leaders combining on the three had shut
up from New York. The Red Sox me Theoriols six
to four. Boston is still tied with the Yankees in
the top spot in the AL East. Astros over the
six three. Mariners beat the Angels, also six to three,
so Seattle Slaws aft game lead on Houston for first
in the a L West. In the NBA, Toronto Raptors
(23:38):
reportedly gonna promote assistant Nick Nurse to be their next
head coach. In the NFL, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck throw
a football and practice for the first time. It's being
shut down in October. He missed the entire twenty seventeenth
season following shoulder surgery. Now back to Clay Travis and
the Guico outkicked the coverage studios. We're gonna join Brandt Snedecker.
We'll see whether or not he thought I did a
good job saying his name, But um, big news. By
the way, We're gonna keep you updated on they are
(23:59):
voting right now on whether the United States will host
the World Cup. Fingers crossed that the answer is gonna
be yes. I'll update you as soon as that becomes official.
But tomorrow we will be at the US Open, which
will definitely be taking place in the United States, and
brand Sedeker will be playing there. Brand appreciate you coming
on with us early this morning. What do you expect
(24:21):
out of this course and what do you think of
the way I did your name there? As you came in,
I thought it's pretty impressive. Yeah, five thirty am, I
guess your time, so I'll give you a whole pass
on that, Um. But it's uh, golf course is fantastic.
It's going to be a very different Open in the
fact that the kind of parking back the way it
used to be where it's gonna be very, very difficult.
(24:42):
I don't see up a little this week. If it doesn't,
it very might be one or two under. Far. The
golf course is fair, very fair. Fairways are very wide
for US Open. But so that's the wind blows here
at all. It's just this golf course, Sinnecock Hills is
just a beast and it's a great test. A lot
of times we see based on the time that you
go out, it can have a massive impact on what
(25:03):
kind of score you can post. You just said you
don't even know necessarily that the winning score is going
to be under par. How much impact do you think
the time of day you go off, depending on the weather,
will have massive, massive amounts here. You know you want
to be traditionally you'll be first off in the morning.
You want the greens be perfect, the winds not blowing
as much, then the course is a lot softer. Um.
(25:24):
I'm teeing off at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon, so it's
gonna be completely different golf course. And the guys see
the morning and you'll see the shoke cabbage very from
two or three shots probably between morning and afternoon. So um,
you know, you understand kind of the time of day
you're playing, the balls can go a lot further. In
the afternoon, the greens would be a lot faster, a
lot want baked out, the wind blowing, and if you
get some sun on the golf course, it just kind
(25:45):
of bakes it out even more. So you can't have
to be aware of where that is. Understand that the
golf course is gonna change you're actually throughout the day
depending on the weather, and so I kind of have
to be ready for it. But as a general rule,
most guys will be first one off the morning, perfect green.
It is not as much wind traditionally, And I saw
suffer golf course. What is the toughest thing about this course?
You kind of broke it down early in that first
answer and said, you don't think that anybody's gonna post
(26:07):
that good of a score. But as you stand on
the first tea box and get ready to look out
over this course and for people out there who will
be watching as a guy who's played a lot of
US Opens, Now what's going to be the toughest about
this particular golf course. This is more a second shot
golf course, So the approach shots the greens because of
the wind here, the wind, it seems like it's always
a crossing, quartering wind. We never have a straight down
(26:29):
win straight into the wind hole except for seven teen
is probably the only one we have UM on the
golf course. So every hole you have to get the
win right because it the greens are so small that
if you leave the ball in the wrong spot you
can literally be there for an hour and make a tent.
You know. It's the timpole is a great example. Um.
People watch it this week and just kind of love
it because it's given a lot of big numbers on
(26:50):
the timphole or he's it's a short, relatively easy hole
in the greens is extremely difficult to hit, so huge
run off in the front of the green and a
huge run off the back of the green. You literally
can go back and forth for four or five shots
ball the green. So making sure you hit your distance
numbers this week, making sure your distance controls on point
is gonna be huge. And making sure you get the
win right. I think a lot of people when you
(27:10):
said that the score will be probably one or two
under par at best, are like, WHOA that that really
kind of is what the US Open is known for.
But it's something that has not necessarily happened the last
few years. Do you think the U. S g A
has kind of gotten it in themselves to say this year, hey,
we're gonna go back to the kind of what people
are used to in the US Open and not allow
(27:31):
somebody to just run away with this, not allow the
low scores to pile up. Yeah, it's part of I
think part of the golf course to the golf course
just lends the stuff to that. The golf course, Nika
Hills is a traditional, tough, just old schooled off course,
but it's not there's not a lot of tricks to it.
You just gotta play great golf, you know. I think
Aaron Hills was a great unknown we played last year.
Scores are so lowest they don't really know how it
was going to play. Yeah, I don't hoving use up
(27:53):
and tore at LEAs three or four, So they have
a lot of historical data to go back home beat okay,
this is how we set up. Then these are the
ten positions we use. This is kind of the score
Dectay with this wins. They kin'd of know what the
golf course selling in itself to saying that the green
the fairways are a lot wider than they played here
in O four, but the green complexes and there's about
another five yards in the golf course since as well,
(28:14):
So golf course a lot longer than now. And the
rough is the rough that we do have is pitch
out rough. I mean, you're lucky to find your golf ball.
If you find it, you're gonna be able advance at
maybe fifty yards. You know, it's not something you un
see guys not coming ring out of roughs. It's just
not gonna happen this week. So kind of HARKing back
the old school us O pens us A first started
playing with on turn Pro. We're talking to brand Snedecker.
(28:36):
He's gonna be teeing off tomorrow. There's also a lot
of talking. I don't know if you've experienced this yet,
that getting to the course is tough. I saw somebody
tweet that they wouldn't shock them if somebody missed their
tea time. Have they kind of given you, guys the
sense that traffic is awful? Hey, you better be there
really early or project time in. I mean, I know
Tiger pulled up. Yeah, I can't wait for you get
(28:58):
here here. I really enjoyed that you did, uh two
to three hours, you know, Oh my god, Post Hotel
which is about yeah, or eight miles away as the
crap fly. So, I mean, it's just a nightmare right now.
It just depending on the time of day you come.
So guys to have afternoon tea time, it's gonna be okay,
But the morning tea time, so I have to leave it,
you know, four thirty four o'clock in the morning to
(29:19):
make it, because if you leave at five thirty or six,
the track is just awful. There's only one road in,
one road out kind of deal. There's nobody to get
around it. It's just there's a finder bender or something
like that. It's it's shut down. It's gonna be a nightmare.
So that's the one bad thing about being here. Um,
if you stay, if you're staying west or east of
the golf course, you're fine. You can kind of come
off the traffic. The same real west. It's just at
(29:40):
a nightmaking And now, now, how does that impact your
your kind of thought process when you're worried as a
golfer about making sure that you're gonna be there for
tea time? Does that take you out a little bit
of I mean, and you're waking up at three thirty
or four am to make sure that you're there because
I think the first guys are teaing off at seven am,
if I'm not mistaken. I mean, that's gotta be tough
to go to at at night, right, you know, not ideal? No,
(30:02):
I mean luckily I'm staying within walking distance and I
don't have an extra bedroom. Otherwise you could say, yeah,
that would be amazing if you have an extra bedroom.
Because I think we're forty miles away and that's a
media hotel. It's not even like I'm staying you know
that that that's how a few hotels there are in
the area. Oh, there's just nowhere to stay exactly. So
most of the guys are running or they're staying in
the host hotel. The host hotel, I think it is
(30:22):
nine miles away, and they have shuttles and everything they're
doing doing event Postitanic guys. Here it's just a you know,
forty people coming down a one langue or two lane road.
There's just not not what you can do. So yeah,
it definitely becomes part of the mind game of the
US Open. Right, you're not gonna be sleeping. Well, you
realize you're gonna have to get You spend a lot
of time with the golf course where you're not having
a thing to do, which most guys don't like doing.
(30:44):
We don't like golf course all day waiting our teacher.
Just current makes you even more anxious and kind of
trying to get in your routine is kind of thrown off.
So you know, it's just want to say, you have
to deal with everybody has to deal with it. So
be interesting to see that we're able to coming call
the traffic a little bit. But I see a big
issue for y outs this week. We're talking to Brand
Senedecker at Brand Senedecker on Twitter. Now, have you ever
(31:06):
visited Tiger Woods as yacht before? I understand he's pulling
up a twenty million dollar yacht like that's kind of
a ball or move in general. Right, Yes, I've seen it.
Um like that has like, I always enjoy thinking about
the difference on the tour. Right, You've got guys who
are making a ton of money and have their own
twenty million dollar yacht, and then you've got guys who
(31:28):
are hoping to make a cut so they can pay
for you know, Southwest flight to get back home. Um,
how much how much difference is there in the in
the kind of in the locker room as you get
ready for a big U S open between I'm sure
when you first started you're like, oh my god, I
can't believe that's Phil Mickelson. You know that's uh, you know,
these these iconic names, and then you're just hoping to
make it. How much of like what's the vibe like
(31:49):
in a US open locker rooms all these guys get
ready to to go out and play because there's a
big difference between the superstar and frankly a lot of
guys that nobody would know at all, who were just
ecstatic to be there. Yeah, this this this week a
totally different weeks most weeks on tour mostly some tour
you kind of see the same guys you kind of
know you're all seeing, you know, in the same walk.
A lot of coming out here on tour in the
(32:11):
US Open, you a bunch of guys who have qualified
I've never played on tour before, a bunch of inner
kids or a bunch of chalege kids are coldinated club
pro who's on was their best. So you walk into
a locker room you don't really don't know half the guys.
It's a totally different feel weeks on tour um and
the way they have the player dining set up this
week is a huge team. You're in there with a
bunch of people who you don't know and keep the
(32:31):
weird different dynamics. So it's a totally a different field
and than than a normal week. Um. Most guys this
week are always stressed out anyway, so it doesn't doesn't
help you know, when you're walking around not know anybody
and trying to figure away through the locker room. You know,
people are asking for autographs and the dining like way
to see time to get away. So U which is
(32:53):
a different field, but it kind of adds to it,
you know. It's the US has play the hardest term
to winners because it's just it does a great job
of the you know, uncomfortable form the minute you step
foot on the property talking to Brand Senedecker. He's at
Brand Senecaker. I'll tweet out his Twitter handle encourage you
guys to go say thanks for coming on and ask
him or thank him for for getting up early. With
this last question for you your this course I think
(33:14):
sets up pretty well for you. Who else does it
set up well for that you have seen? You think, oh,
this this course really kind of fits so and So's
game for people to be paying attention to as they
come in. Yeah, you have to look at guys who
are great scramblers because there's there's gonna be so Phil's
fourth second here, there's a reason you want to do.
The short game is so good. Um yeah, I think
George Space is gonna have a great chance this sweet
because he's probably one of the best chippers and which
(33:35):
players in the world. Um, you look at guys like
that that that can get it up and down pasteck
Greed will have good chance. And it's so hard to
win one major little and went back to back. But
guys that can give up and down and kind of
survive things aren't perfect because there's nobody to go around
here at four straight days. This is not gonna happen hard.
You look at guys that are gonna um really, you know,
(33:59):
get the ball off the dawn when things aren't going great.
You know, I think he's got really excellent chance. He's
playing good, he's he's uh built for this kind of golf.
You know. It's just uh if you can stay away
from the big number this week, he'll be right there
on Friday. So you I hope, because I got money
on you. We'll talk to you if you win on
Monday or probably either way regardless, I appreciate it. Congratulations
on getting to walk to the course and let me
(34:20):
know if somebody moves out of the house, because I'd
like to stay there. I appreciate It's Brand Senedeker. Go
follow him on Twitter at Brand Senedeker. He'll be teeing
off tomorrow morning with us. We'll be live at the
golf course tomorrow. This is outkicked the coverage, final segment.
Our one up next on Fox Sports Radio. Great news.
(34:44):
Quick way you could save money. Switch to Geico. Go
to Geico dot com and in fifteen minutes you could
say fifteen percent or more on car insurance. I'm not
gonna lie. I we just had brand Senedeker on By
the way, we are awaiting the vote law I've on
the air. They are showing it. Uh. FIFA is voting
(35:04):
on where the World Cup is going to be held.
Obviously the World Cup begins in Russia tomorrow, but they
are going to announce whether Morocco or the United States
get the World Cup. This would obviously be huge for
soccer fans who are still disappointed that the US is
(35:26):
not going to be in the World Cup this year.
You're automatically advanced to the World Cup if your host
country is is carrying the World Cup, is hosting it.
So the US has wanted the World Cup now and
competed for it four years two I believe is in Qatar,
uh and so the hope is that the US is
gonna get So this news should come down in the
(35:50):
next twenty minutes or so. We'll have it live for
you as we as we see whether or not the
United States will get the World Cup. And it would
also be a joint hosting um um you know, bid
with the US, Mexico and Canada. But the vast majority
of the of the votes and of the games would
(36:11):
be predicated on the US getting this again it's the
US versus Morocco. Um. The traffic. I don't know that
everybody has really kind of gotten used to this, but
the traffic for the US Open is evidently atrocious. I've
seen guys who were teaming off. We just talked with
brand Snecker and things again for him coming on. I've
seen guys playing there who were sitting around saying, you
(36:33):
know what, we're concerned that we may miss a tea
time because some of these guys are taking It's taken
sometimes three hours to go eight miles out on Long Island. Um,
I'm terrified of this. I mean, we're forty miles away,
which is ridiculous in and of itself in a media hotel,
I'm gonna leave at like four am, maybe three thirty
(36:56):
to try to get there. This is ridiculous. Um. And
I can't even imagine in the stress if you are
a golfer. Um, I'm really disappointed brand Snedeker didn't have
a room. Do you think he's lying? Do you think
he has a spare bedroom or do you think he
was being honest when he said they don't have one. Mmm?
I think he might be wanting to see how miserable
he can make you as that kind of dude we love.
(37:18):
I think I think I am a totally good, like
you know, partner in the house. Like I go to
bed at a decent hour. I don't snore. I don't
really make any noise at all. Um. The problem is
when you're awake, how do you how do you know?
How do you know you don't snore? Though you asked
your wife? Yeah, yeah, I mean like I would. I
(37:39):
would if she lied to you about it. She would
not lie. She criticizes everything I do, Like every wife.
She criticizes everything I do on a regular basis. If
I snored, I would never hear the end of it. Now,
I'm not to say that at some point I might
not snore as I get older, Like my dad snores.
My mom and dad sleeping different beds for that reason.
So I'm I'm I'm aware of the of the snoring
kind of dynamic as you get older. But but so far,
(38:02):
I've got no bad sleep habits. Uh. And by the
way I'm watching, I think it's a good sign. Uh.
I think it's a good sign. The US. I believe
have they won? They just stood up and study. Yes,
the US has officially won the FIFU World Cup. I
mean that is breaking news. Literally as we are live
on the air with all of you United States, Mexico
(38:25):
and Canada live news, the US delegation celebrating has beaten Morocco.
Breaking news, yes, live on the show. If you are
a soccer fan, it's disappointing that the US will not
actually be in the UH in the World Cup, but
major breaking news. The US has been awarded the fiful
(38:47):
World Cup. So eight years from now, as the World
Cup gets closer, this is massive for United States soccer
for the growth of the sport. Will be the first
time since nine I believe it was when the US
host did soccer, hosted the World Cup and and frankly
soccer was just a pen prit kind of on the
horizon of the sports universe. This is massive and goes
(39:09):
a long way towards helping to wipe out the disappointment
over not advancing to Russia. If you are a soccer fan,
if you are a sports fan in general, this will
be an incredible environment to be able to host this
in eight years, everything FIFA coming back to the United States.
It's a big win UH for United States sports. There
(39:29):
was a lot of of of uncertainty as to whether
or not the U s would be able to get
this bid, given how rigged FIFA has been before. Russia
seemed like they bought this World Cup. Qutar seemed like
they bought the last one. It's a little bit like
getting a top recruit to your college football or basketball school.
I don't know what happened, what went into it, but
major breaking news the US awarded the World Cup. We
(39:54):
will discuss that a little bit more. We'll talk about
the Warriors parade, all that more to come. Where will
the ron go? Uh? Everybody continues to discuss. We will
break all that down for but the US gets the
World Cup. Big time win for the Morning Live from
the Geico Outkicks Studios, where fifteen minutes could save you
fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Visit Geico dot
(40:17):
com for a free rate quote. Big news breaking across
the sports landscape in America, Canada and Mexico. The United
States has been awarded the World Cup in the last
ten minutes officially. And if you're out there and you're wondering, okay,
what does that mean? This is a pretty massive deal. Uh.
(40:39):
Jason Martin tells me that this is worth approximately eleven
billion dollars in terms of the overall economic impact of
this event. Uh, the United States, what will it look like?
Because the United States is the primary host country, but
Canada and Mexico will also host matches. UH, let me
tell you a little bit of those details. The US
(41:00):
will host sixty of the eight soccer matches that will
take place in the World Cup. Canada would get ten,
Mexico would get ten. Uh. There are twenty three host
cities that are hoping to be able to host those events.
Seventeen in the United States, three in Mexico, three in Canada. Uh.
(41:20):
Eventually they will cut down that to UH sixteen, three
in Canada, three in Mexico, ten in the United States,
and all matches from the quarterfinals four to including the
World Cup Final would take place in the United States.
So this is a massive deal. There will be, like
I said, ten cities in the United States that will
(41:42):
host games, three in Canada, three in Mexico, and the
vast majority of these matches, sixty of the eighty, will
take place in the United States. So if you are
a soccer fan, this will go a long way towards
helping to assuage the pain and disappointment of are not
making this year's World Cup in in Russia. Plus in
(42:05):
at least there will be no nervousness over the process
of qualifying because the host country is automatically in UH
to the World Cup. So this is a pretty awesome deal. Again,
just announced in the last ten minutes, the US felt
like they kind of got screwed out of being able
to host the last couple due to UH sort of
(42:27):
bid fixing. Jason Martin, I believe you have the total
vote numbers and it ended up not being that close,
the United States winning with ease. Yeah, one thirty four
to sixty five. Like, I mean, that's that's pretty substantial,
to be sure. I don't think this is horrifyingly surprising.
I mean, you look at the infrastructure of the two
(42:48):
nations and how many places obviously that can be utilized
here Mexico, and how much they love soccer UH utilizing
Canada as well, how great the ninety four tournament was is,
and just how different the landscape is now, Like this
is awesome. Like, I'm already looking forward to World Cup
even though you know starts tomorrow. I don't care about.
(43:12):
Let's get eight years down the road, because I'm gonna
go see a lot of this. Like I wasn't able
to go in ninety four, and I really wanted to,
but I just couldn't do it at the time. Hopefully
in eight years I'll be in a position where I
can go and see this, because this is bucket list
material for any sports fan, because the atmosphere is unlike
anything else in athletics, to be sure, and it's basically
it's it's basically like having the Olympics, but it doesn't
(43:34):
come with nearly the cost and nearly the risk that
usually comes with the Olympics, or any of the issues
with one city having to host the entire Olympics, where
it becomes impossible to move around in that city and
if you live there, you're like, screw it. I just
want to go away for two weeks. I'll put my
house on v R B O or Airbnb. Uh. This
is this is a big win. It's also a big
win for Fox, which I know, like there was abject
(43:58):
disappointment when the United State eights choked against Trinidad and
Tobarigo down the stretch. This is massive for Fox because
this will all be on television with Fox, so huge
win to get a United States World Cup in as
part of the existing deal. That's the final of the
World Cups that will be on Fox. So Fox bought
(44:20):
the Women's World Cup, which we won, I believe in
the US women's team in Canada. Uh, they've got the uh,
the theen I guess maybe I'm not sure exactly. I
think it was. Now they've got the World Cup that's
going on right now. This will be the first men's
World Cup to air on Fox. So they've got this one.
They've got the one down in Qatar, which still sounds
(44:41):
like it's gonna be a little bit of a mess
because temperatures can get up to like a hundred and
twenty degrees in Qatar. They have to build all these
brand new stadiums. Uh. That was the one that I
think a lot of people saw and thought, Man, there's
so much bid rigging going on here. Until the votes
actually come in, you're always incredibly app hintive about what
exactly whether the fixes in what has taken place to
(45:04):
allow all these countries to to be voting and to pick,
for instance, in Middle Eastern country like Qatar. Uh. In
two but this is a massive win for for the
United States sports fan and to finally get the World
Cup back in here since honestly, for a lot of people, uh,
this will be the first World Cup of their life
(45:26):
to take place in the United States. And look, I
know that there is anti soccer guy out there. And
I know that when I check my Twitter feed, which
I haven't yet, announcing that the US won the Soccer
World Cup, there'll be a ton of anti soccer guy
out there, like, oh, I don't care about soccer, Okay,
if soccer is not your thing, then don't go to
the World Cup and don't watch it. I don't get
(45:48):
the need and necessity and and and immediacy of if
you don't like a sport, don't watch it, Like I
don't know why. Soccer, to me, uniquely, is detigrated in
this country by people who don't like it. If people
don't like football or basketball, they don't say, oh, football sucks,
you know, Like a lot of people like football, a
lot of people like basketball, a lot of people like baseball.
(46:10):
If you don't, if you don't like hockey, that's fine
at this point in time. But a ton of people
out there and a massive cadre of young kids who
are playing soccer. This will be really big for the
continued growth of this sport in America and for the
ten cities that host games in the United States. It'll
be an incredible festival I would imagine to be a
(46:34):
part of. So this is gonna be pretty awesome and uh,
I think it will be go a long way for
the United States, uh, in terms of burnishing our continuing
legacy of being the most fun country in the world
to visit. I mean, there are a lot of people
out there who will come to America that have been
dreaming of coming here. Uh, and we'll come and watch
a soccer game, and we'll leave and say, man, there's
(46:56):
no place else like America anywhere in the world for tourism.
For the overall substantial economic impact, this is a massive
win and I'm really excited about it. Again, if you're
just waking up, the vote just took place in Russia.
The United States has been awarded the World Cup. So
eight years from now, which seems like forever eight years.
(47:17):
No telling what the landscape of sports will actually be
like in eight years, but but it'll get here. For
those of us who are older it'll get here pretty fast, um,
because it doesn't seem like it was that long ago
that two thousand ten was here and UH and we're
now already inteen so a big win. We need to
look up those cities, Jason Martin, will you look up
the cities uh that were that are in contention now
(47:40):
in the United States, also in Canada and Mexico, who
will be actually hosting uh potentially matches, because I do
think that is a that's a pretty pretty intriguing thing
now because I believe there have been seventeen cities named
as potential venues and now they will figure out. I
think in Canada, by the way, I've got some of these.
In Canada, Montreal, Edmonton, and Toronto will be hosting games.
(48:04):
I believe that's been decided. In Mexico, they will host
games in Mexico City, in Monterey, and in Guadalajara in
three different locations there. In the United States, here are
the cities that have been included so far in the bid.
UH and those stadiums, UH. You would think l A
and New York are given that the Rose Bowl and
(48:26):
MetLife Stadium will host games. UH. In d C, you
would be stunned if they were not included. You think
FedEx Field will certainly host games. I would think a
T n T Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys Field has a
very good chance. UH, Kansas City, Missouri, the Arrowhead Stadium, UH, Denver, Colorado,
Mile High Stadium. There in Houston, Texas at n RG Stadium,
(48:49):
the Houston Texans Venue there, Baltimore, Maryland, the MNT Bank Stadium,
Atlanta in the Mercedes Benz New Stadium where the Atlanta
United Team plays, Philadelphia where the Eagles play, Nashville where
the Titans play, Seattle at the Seahawks Field, San Francisco,
San Jose where the forty Niners play their games, and
(49:12):
then Boston, Massachusetts, UH, Cincinnati, Miami, and Orlando were the
seventeen cities that were finalists for the United States bids.
So only ten of those cities will end up being
able to host games. So we will see which of
those cities end up getting the right to host games.
But that will be the next big decision that will
(49:33):
be made, is uh, you know, sort of cutting that venue,
those venues from seventeen down to ten. And if you're
a sports fan in any of those seventeen cities. The
ten places that get World Cup games will be a
really big deal. Again, there are sixty of these games
that will take place in the United States, tan in Mexico,
and ten in Canada, and from the quarterfinals on, all
(49:56):
of the biggest games will take place here. So you
would like to think whether it's possible or not that
by the United States. It's hard to even forecast what
the roster would look like eight years from now, but
you would hope that the team can be cycling up
and actually be in a position where they could be
a legitimate contender to not just advance to the Round
(50:19):
of sixteen, but potentially advanced to the round of eight
or round of four and really kind of set soccer fever, uh,
really unleashed in this country. But to me, the big
story here is one major win for the United States
and the soccer Federation and the sports allies who made
this happen to This goes a really long way towards
(50:39):
helping to erase the pain of not making the ten
World Cup for US soccer fans. In fact, I think
if you asked the US soccer fans in general, would
you rather have gone to Russia and have the Soccer
World Cup awarded to UH to Morocco or not go
to Russia and get the United States to host the
(51:01):
World Cup in I think that's kind of a no brainer,
don't you guys, if you had to choose. I mean,
obviously you want to be in the World Cup every year,
But if you had to choose, which is a bigger
deal losing the UH, not not advancing in Russia in
eighteen or getting the World Cup in six. I think
getting the World Cup in six is such a massive
(51:22):
deal that you would have traded not being in the
World Cup in eighteen in order to get it in
twenty six. Does that make sense to you? Jason Martin, absolutely,
especially when you know we aren't gonna win, Like it's
not like even if we qualified, we were gonna win
the World Cup. So this is just the situation. Do
you want to make the playoffs or do you want
to really high draft pick? And in this case, I'd really,
(51:43):
really rather have a really high draft pick, and this
is the ultimate lottery pick, is to get the World
Cup in your country in the future. To me, it's
it's not even close. Are you guys excited about this?
Out in l A Danny g I mean, this is
a pretty this is a pretty big breaking news story.
Again for those of you waking up, who's start off
your morning without kick, Thanks for starting off your day
with us and a major news story breaking in the
(52:04):
last twenty minutes. United States being rewarded the World Cup
and it will take place here. Ten different cities will
be able to host games in the the United States, three
in Canada, three in Mexico. Quarterfinals on we'll all take
place here. Sixty different soccer matches that will be taking
place inside the United States. Yeah, we love the World
(52:25):
Cup here in California and especially southern California. Anytime Mexico
is playing, the freeways literally shut down here and as
well as when America is playing. And this is a
huge day for Fox TV because obviously they outbid ESPN
four hundred million was it for the rights? The English
rights took a ton of heat with the USA being
(52:48):
eliminated from contention because then everyone was like, oh, not
getting your money's worth. How about now you think Fox
TV is gonna cater some breakfast for our show because
they celebrating this morning was probably a multi I mean,
it's certainly worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Fox
Sports to have the World Cup in six in the
(53:09):
United States. It might end up being worth before all
is said and done, a billion dollars to the company.
I mean that may be a crazy number, but when
you think about all of the advertising dollars that will
be surrounding a World Cup bid that will take place
in the United States, and all of the money that
will be able to make versus Morocco, I mean it
might be a billion dollars in revenue difference over the
(53:31):
course of of this deal, and also in terms of
being able to just sign up a lot of advertisers.
I would imagine now what they'll do is they'll go
to all these advertisers and say, hey, we know you
want to be in for six in the United States,
but in order to buy the United States in six,
you also have to buy cutter into Qatar in two.
(53:55):
So if you're not gonna be able to just parachute
in and suddenly spend a lot of money on the
twenty six World Cup, we want your money for two
and also for the Women's World Cup events that will
be taking place as well, where the United States women
have a really good shot every time the Women's World
Cup happens of actually winning the tournament. What you got
for me out in l A. I want to know,
(54:15):
is UH, Normally UH, the host city that gets the
World Cup bid, UH, that country automatically qualifies for the
World Cup. So considering that Canada, the US, and Mexico
are all three of them are coming from Conka calf.
The interesting thing is that I'm wondering if all three
of them are going to get an automatic bid or
is one of them going to be left out? Yeah,
(54:36):
I don't know what the what the setup will be.
I would you know, since the US is hosting sixty games.
What I was told is the U s would get
an automatic bid. So I don't know if one of
the countries is determined quote unquote the host for the
automatic bid. For instance, Russia automatically gets in. Qatar will
automatically get in. Every time your country hosts the World Cup.
(54:57):
One of the benefits is that you are allowed to
get in with the UH with the automatic automatic birth.
I think it will be the United States. UM, But
but that is AH. That is an interesting angle in
and of itself. By the way, this is also kind
of a big deal because there have been some talk, oh,
Donald Trump's president, FIFA wants to send a message that
(55:18):
they don't like Donald Trump. The impact of that ended
up not taking place. I would imagine if it hasn't
already happened. I haven't checked Twitter, that it won't be
very long before Donald Trump will be tweeting out taking
credit for the US being able to get the World Cup,
uh and host it. But yeah, it's a good question
in terms of and by the way, they're also talking
about expanding the field for the World Cup. Right now,
(55:41):
thirty two countries make it, but I think they're talking
about expanding into the forties if I'm not mistaken potentially
by two. So that would also make it not as
challenging of a deal to be able to to make
the World Cup in general. But the US, I believe
gets the automatic bid because they are the default home country.
Even know there are games that will take place in
(56:01):
Mexico and in Canada. So this is awesome news. Will
continue to unpack it for you guys as the show continues.
We got some great audio from the Warrior Celebration parade,
which we will play for you next uh next uh,
next segment. We're also going to talk with Jeff Schwartz.
At the bottom of of our two and our three,
we'll talk with Jason Whitlock. Getting you ready for the
(56:23):
US Open. Already, brand Snedeker has joined US live from
Shinnekak Hills. Uh. He is getting ready for the US
Open to tee off tomorrow in New York, which is
why we are in Manhattan, UH this morning doing the show,
or I am in Manhattan this morning doing the show. Uh.
Much to discuss, but again the big news as you
wake up across the country. United States has been awarded
the World Cup. I am Clay Travis. This is Outkicked
(56:47):
the Coverage. We'll be back with some great audio from
the Warriors celebration parade, as well as more discussion on
as Lebron turns, Where will Lebron be going? Who is
the favorite right now in the offshore odds markets? Will
discuss all that more. This is OutKick the Coverage on
Fox Sports Radio, rolling back in with you again. Major
(57:09):
breaking new We don't usually get to say major breaking
news on this show. Like everybody I know, we're on
early six to nine AM, but usually there's not actual
breaking news, actual breaking news. Do we have the Fox
news sounder and this is actual breaking news that implicates
Fox Sports in a big way. We need to play
this up as much as we can. Breaking news from
(57:30):
Fox Sports. This is legit. The United States has been
awarded the World Cup and as a result, it's gonna
be pretty awesome. Sixty of the matches will take place
in the United States, ten in Canada, ten in Mexico. Canada, Mexico.
Guy out there upset because I said the US has
been more to the awarded the World Cup. It's like, hey,
(57:51):
well we're in Canada and we're in Mexico and we're
getting Look you are hanging onto the coattails of the
United States. I love you Canada, I love you Mexico.
This is the U his World Cup. We just kind
of made a smart political move and gave you guys
ten matches, and you can get your you know, ten
matches in Canada as well. This is the US's World Cup.
This is a big deal. By the way, Welcome back

I want to play the audio for you here. I
think we have some audio, don't you of the of
(58:33):
the celebration, the Golden State Warriors uh yesterday um in
their big win, Swaggy pe, Nick Young and Raymond Green
both weighing in at the celebration and talking a little trash.
I want Jeff Schwortz to hear this as well. Let's
play it for you. I'm at the ultimate level. I'm
at the top. It's nothing higher this wack chap and
as you know, that's me. You know, Jabell could come
(58:55):
up with his own name. All Star eight team is shirtless. Yeah,
run a bounce to the top. That's where we had.
There's a lot of guys in this league. They saw
we just come from a different cloth. That's real. That's
all I really got. That's real. We just ain't cut
to say. I told what I'm doing, some cass. That's
the game. Try to shake my head, I said, Trista.
(59:16):
We ain't cut to say. Taking a shot at Tristan
Thompson Uh, that is Draymond Green. Um, and that is
the Warrior celebration. By the way offshore odds markets as
the NBA, UH is sort of like saying through the
hour glass, what's these are the days of our NBA lives?
I used to watch that Days of Our Lives show
(59:36):
with my grandma every every time I was out of school. Uh,
you know you feel like me. You got your homesick,
You go to grandma's house, you sit around and watch
game shows and soap operas all day with her prices
right all day long, and then you get into the
soap operas and so like SAMs through the hour glass,
these are the days of our lives. These are the
days of our lives. In the off season, as the
NBA turns as well, Lebron James now favored to go
(59:59):
to the l A Lakers. We bring in our guy,
Jeff Shorts, as we do every single Wednesday. Shorts, you
grew up in l A. Do you think Lebron should
go to the Lakers? Well, I mean I'm a Lakers fans,
of course I think you should go to it. He
should go to the Lakers. I think at this point
in his career it's not so much about winning championships.
I think it's about building his brand, but also he
can do something that Jordan never did, right, He's always
(01:00:21):
gonna be compared to Jordan, which I think it's kind
of unfair at this point, but that's that's where we are.
And if he goes to l a and essentially rebuilds
the Lakers into a championship team, he can say he's
rebuilt three franchises now and in the heat that you know,
there were a good franchise but they weren't winning without
Lebron and obviously the Calves and then the Lakers. So
I mean that's that's his motivation there, and it's you know,
(01:00:42):
it's Los Angeles. It's where you want to be in December, January,
February when it's cold in in every other city. And
I think that there is not a perfect team for
him to go to. And that's partly why I think
with not a perfect team to go to and not
a perfect setup, that you just go to the place
that accommodates your family the best and it gives you
the best lifestyle. Into us. See, I just when I
look at what the Lakers can do and Danny g
(01:01:04):
you can hop in there as a future Laker All Star.
I just give me the best possible scenario, Danny g
for what the Lakers could do to have a championship,
to win a championship with Lebron, Because when I look
at the landscape of the NBA right now, I say, okay, Lebron,
let's say they can bring in Paul George too. That's
a team that might win one series in the Western
(01:01:26):
Conference and then would get run by either the Rockets
or the or the Warriors. Now, if you're telling me
Lebron is gonna go to l A and he feels
like he's gonna make so much money from entertainment that
he doesn't have to take a max contract and there's
the ability to bring in other players on top of that,
I know maybe you don't. You don't like that argument
though about the entertainment and production company. I mean, I
(01:01:48):
just I don't buy. I don't buy into the idea
that being in l A is gonna make Lebron more
efficient than if he's in Houston, or if you like,
when you are a superstar, there are tons of huge
super stuff like George Clooney has a house in Italy,
it seems like George Clooney is still kind of a
big deal in in uh in l A when he
needs to be right, Like, uh so, I think when
(01:02:09):
you are a superstar, l A comes to you. I
think before he started to go bankrupt. Um, if I'm
not mistaken, Johnny Depp had a huge estate in France. Like,
you have a plane, you can fly to l A
if you need to. But when you're a bona fide
global superstar, they find ways to integrate you as opposed
to you having to integrate in them. Well, how about this,
because no other team could off offer this? A Lonzo
(01:02:31):
Ball will put Lebron in a music video and rap
about him. Do we have audio, by the way, from
LaVar Ball saying that he should call him Labra l
a Broun? Like I think we have audio of that right?
Uh yeah, we'll find that for you. We'll play that
in the final segment of the hour for people out
there who haven't heard uh about the track? Yeah, Alonzo
(01:02:53):
and everybody it's Alonzo versus Kyle Kuzuma right now. But look,
Kyle Kuzumo, what was he? Jeff? He was twenty four
pick in the draft and everybody thought it was just
kind of a throwaway pick. He turned out to be
one of the brightest young stars on the Lakers squad.
The Lakers have a pretty deep bench, and Jeff has
talked about this when he's filled in on the show before.
(01:03:14):
The Lakers I think have a lot to offer in
the same way the seventies sixers do. And I think
uh Lebron would actually fit better with the Lakers than
he would There is a zero percent chance that the
Lakers would win the title. I'm not saying saying they
would win the title, but he could go deep, and
he's gonna bring a couple of stars. He would need
(01:03:35):
to take a little bit of a discount. What what
Why don't we assume by the way that the Rockets
are gonna be are gonna be amazing again. You know,
the lawyers, I think are it feels like they're getting
here because my crime daughter in my office, Um, it
feels like it feels like they're going to be you know,
they're getting close to their end of their runs. You know,
Dynasty's end end sooner than we think, and so I
(01:03:55):
think it's you know, to just assume the Warriors and
Rockets and people be fantastic tames for years to come.
It is probably not the right assumption. I think Lebron
goes to l A, he can build something up. It's
not it's not a championship to win now. If he's
the only place you can go to win a championship
right now, I guess it's theoretically Houston. If he goes
to the Philly, he's not doing it now because l
A is not doing it now. So it comes down
(01:04:16):
to what lifestyle do you want to live. I think
that that bodes well for Los Angeles. Well, I think
here's the thing on Lebron. I think that no matter
how many performance enhancing drugs he takes, at some point,
he is going to start to decline. Okay, at thirty
three years old, right now he had a great year.
He's gonna turn thirty four. Look at what happened with
Kobe as good and hello to Jeff Shortz's daughter, good morning.
(01:04:39):
As as good as Kobe is um. He fell off
a cliff precipitously with the Lakers, and the Lakers were left.
They had bought this massive contract with Kobe Bryant and
they had no way to actually contend for a title.
With him, and so I wonder on some level, is
thirty five year old Lebron James suddenly going to hit
the wall and be a shell of the play or
(01:05:00):
that he was prior to that time. I don't know
what that age is where the decline will happen rapidly,
but I think at some point, age and mortality when
it comes to athleticism wins, and as great as you
can put yourself into, keep yourself in shape, and as
physically dominant and superior as you can be, at some
point Lebron is not going to be as good as
(01:05:21):
he was before. And so uh again, I think that
the odds the only to me, the only reason why
Lebron James should continue to play basketball is to try
to win titles, and I think the odds of him
winning a title going forward with the Lakers are low.
Although we got LaVar Ball, he's back in the scene.
(01:05:42):
He was on the Fox lot yesterday and this is
what he had to say about Lebron to l A.
I don't believe Lebron's gonna be a Laker. I know
he's gonna be a Laker. I told you to call
him l A Broun there's LaVar. Uh. So you say
he should go to the Lakers. My argument is he
should go to Houston and try to win a champion. Hi. There.
My our other argument is take a lot less than
(01:06:02):
the max guarantee. Jeff, you've been an athlete, uh, and
you signed a couple of decent sized contracts. It's different
for a and I think you would agree with me
that you were like a role player, right, like you
want to get as much money as you can when
you are trying to make as much money as you can.
But pretend that you are Aaron Rodgers. Let's say and
pretend that you have come close to maxing out your
(01:06:25):
contract money over the course of your time as in
the league. At the end of your career, would you
have been inclined to take less money to try to
win a championship if for the previous ten years or
twelve years you had maxed out as much money as
you could. Yes, and I would have done that considering
my career. Um, you know, I signed my big contract
with the Giants, I've gotten paid, and then you know
(01:06:45):
you're nine or ten or getting toward the end. I
would have definitely if I was the opportunity. I would
have signed for maybe less to win a championships. You know,
let's say New England called me, and you know I've
been inclined to maybe do that. The thing when it
comes to contracts, a lot of it is ego, right,
So if you're Aaron, there is a great example. You know,
you want to be the highest paid guy. Now Lebron
for a while has been the highest paid guy, but
it keeps getting obviously up every year, and someone takes
(01:07:08):
that role from him. But if he's also making a
lot of money on the outside, whether it's with his
production company or whether it's advertisement, said, yeah, he could
theoretically take less And to your point about him, you
know aging at some point, He's gonna age, obviously at
some point. And again, would you rather age in Los
Angeles or age in Philly or in Houston? I mean,
I think that's all part of this, of this decision.
I don't know if he feels that way that he's
(01:07:29):
aging anytime soon, but he cannot play the amount of
minutes he played last year, uh this year, and it'd
be great if he took less money. I mean, maybe
Magic Johnson, I think this is a big part of
it is Lebron has never trusted UM anyone in Cleveland ever,
besides maybe David Griffin, his old GM. He trusted pat
riley in in Miami. I think he'll trust Mattic Johnson
(01:07:51):
and Rob Polinka, and I think the trust factor is
a big deal for him. I think I'm just assuming this.
I don't know, but I kind of imagine he's tired
of trying to tire try to build teams UM and
he just wants to maybe just play basketball and worry
about his lifestyle. I don't know. I'm just kind of
guessing on that, but I think he'd be over that
it hasn't worked out him. Is a GM does not work.
(01:08:11):
I I'm on this, and I'm gonna be on this,
on this pedestal and on this soapbox for a while.
I don't understand the concept of your ego demands that
you make the max contract. Let me take it outside
of Lebron, I have a healthy ego. Let's say that
I have a healthy ego that I think having a
healthy ego is a big part of success because you
have to believe in yourself long before anybody else will. Right,
(01:08:34):
if I were convinced that I was the best sports
talker radio host in the country, and and I had
proven it over the course of a decade or whatever,
and somebody else was making more money than me, it
wouldn't really bother me because I would be making plenty
of money doing what I do. And I would look
at it and say, you know what, I get to
do my show from Nashville, which is my hometown. I
(01:08:55):
get to live with my family. Could I make more
money moving to New York or l A and do
my show there? Maybe? And I'm in Manhattan right now.
It's a great place to come and visit and do
the show. I've spent a lot of time in l A.
I think it's a great place too. But Nashville is
home for me. So if as a result, I have
to make two or three million dollars less to live
in Nashville, some people out there might say that's crazy.
(01:09:18):
My argument would be, if I'm the best radio show
host in a country in a decade, the difference between
me making seven million dollars a year and me making
ten million dollars a year would not be that much different.
Some of you out there saying that's a crazy thing.
I I don't think that dollar figure is going to
be crazy in a decade. And so I would take
several million dollars less to stay in my hometown. And
it wouldn't be me being like ego driven and saying,
(01:09:41):
oh my god, like I'm making less than somebody else,
Like if I know I'm the best, I don't need
to see it reflected in the dollars. Well, I think
I think it's hard to compare, especially football. I'm talking
a lot from a from a football perspective. It's hard
to compare football to any other job. I mean you
just mentioned it. You can have this job for thirty years.
So if you're not making the most money now over
(01:10:01):
your career living in Nashville, you know, being with your family,
it even doubt uh in the NFL you don't have
You don't have that option, right. Your career is short.
You have to take the most money and as much
money I think as possible now at the end of
your career. I mean, we've seen Chris Long Now you
do it two years in a row where he went
to New England and went to Philly for less money
and you know, in the hopes of winning a championship.
(01:10:22):
So at the end of your career, you can definitely
do that. But I I understand why NFL players I
was that type, right, I want I totally I I
totally get it for the NFL because your career could
end on any play. You don't have that much guaranteed money.
But at the end of your career, when you're sitting
around saying, hey, I've only got like three years of
left or four years left money, no, I understand would
totally take less money. But look, Lebron, I don't know
(01:10:44):
if he feels the same way. I mean, I I
just he hasn't shown that he feels that same way yet.
I mean, I think that if he goes anywhere he goes,
he's gonna might have to take lappy. Houston doesn't have
much money. Um, I don't know what Philly situation is.
I mean, La has the money, but in if you
want to build a team around him, he's gonna have
to take less unless they trade for Kauai or do
something creative with their roster. Um. But I get I
(01:11:08):
get the ego part of it. I get why people
want to be paid the boast. Oh look, you're you're right. Family.
Your family comes into this. I mean, if you're if
your situation is set up to where you're at home
or you're by your family and it's less money that
that that makes difference. You know that the less money
kind of outweighs um the family time outweighs the money. Yeah,
(01:11:28):
this is where somebody needs to sit down with Lebron
and say, hey, the legacy that you are going to
be remembered for is whether you win championships or not.
When you hang up the tennis hue, so to speak,
and you are officially done as an NBA player, you're
gonna have like, let's say, nine hundred million dollars as
opposed to a billion dollars. A hundred million dollars sounds
(01:11:49):
like a lot of money, but when you've already got
nine hundred million, if you can't do everything that you
want to do with nine hundred million, I don't know
why you're going to change your lifestyle and go losing
the first sound uh to make an extra hundred million dollars, right,
I mean to me, it's just a no brainer. Um,
I don't even have that much money in the grand
scheme of things, and I feel like I have like
(01:12:09):
everything that I want now. I can't imagine if I
had nine hundred million dollars versus a billion, And whoever
you are out there listening, is your lifestyle going to
change if you have ninety thousand dollars in assets versus
a hundred thousand dollars in assets. Probably not. I just again,
I just think the play here for Lebron is go
wherever you can win a championship. That's what's ultimately gonna matter.
(01:12:32):
But I don't know if championships are gonna matter anymore
because if you, if you want six funks, say, you know,
everyone said, well what he lost this also, and and
I to me, the comparison to Jordan is just not
He's not Jordan. And I think that I don't. I
don't even think. Yeah, I don't even think it's about
comparing with Jordan. I think it's just if you could
go to a third different city and win a third
different championship there. I do think that would be a
(01:12:53):
hell of the legacy to have As you ride off
into the sunset, Jeff Schwortz, take care of your daughter.
We appreciate you joining us here, and we'll talk to
you soon. Alright, That is Jeff shorts. We've got major
breaking news if you're just waking up, and my guy
Eddie Garcia, he'll share it with you. All right, let's
give you a Guico scoreboard, but we'll start though with
the breaking news you've been talking about. A clay. FIFA
announcing this morning that the United Bid of the US,
(01:13:15):
Mexico and Canada have been awarded the World Cup. In baseball,
battle for the NL Central lead, Brewers over the Cubs
for nothing, Milwaukee's not back on top of the division.
A half came up on Chicago. Braves beat the Mets
eight to two. Was the Yankees over the Nationals three nothings.
So Atlanta is one game up on Washington for the
NL East lead, Red Sox over the Oriel six to four.
Boston is still tied with the Yankees for the AL
(01:13:35):
East lead, Astros over the A six three, and the
Mariners beat the Angels six three, so Seattle stalls a
half game with on Houston for first in the A

That about to Clay Travis and the Guico out Kicked
the Coverage Studios. Good stuff as always, will continue to
(01:13:58):
break down this big news about the United States winning
the World Cup, will discuss Lebron a little bit more.
Hour three, We're gonna be joined by Jason Whitlock. We'll
find out what he thinks about all of these stories
and more all that still to come. I'm Clay Travis's
Outcake to coverage hn Fox Sports Radio Live from the
Geico Outkicks Studios. Major breaking news, US, Canada, Mexico awarded
(01:14:21):
the World Cup. UH, this is gonna be massive. There
will be ten different cities in the United States that
will host games. They've already announced that the final will
be played in the Giants and the Jets Stadium in
the New York City area. UH, the stadiums in Canada
that will host Montreal, Edmonton and Alberta. The stadiums in
Mexico that will host Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara. UM,
(01:14:44):
and then the ten cities that will decide and be
hosting in the United States. They're seventeen of them so far. Uh,
and we will figure out which to the ten will host. Now,
I want to clear up a couple of little details
surrounding this bid as well. One I said the US
will get an automatic bid. I would don't believe that
will be true. I don't believe FIFA has officially ruled
on how to handle the fact that there is a Canada,
(01:15:06):
of Mexico, and a US team theoretically all involved in
bidding to host this. But that could be cleared up
a bit because in there will actually be forty eight
teams that are making the World Cup that is proposed,
and I think it's already been ratified and past based
on what I've been able to read about online starting
(01:15:28):
in So in theory that would give a lot more leniency.
Maybe Mexico, Canada, and the US will all three be
given automatic bids, because in theory, you're gonna have sixteen
additional countries that are able to qualify for the World
Cup um and that would theoretically expand the number of
games I believe, beyond eight and add substantially more to
(01:15:53):
those overall games and less being forty eight teams. The
e D has already rolled into the number. I'm not sure. Uh,
do we know that? Do we know that, Jason Martin?
Do we know whether or not that eight includes the
expanded field or if there's actually more games that will
take place then then have been announced. I don't know
it includes it includes the number. It's eighty games in
thirty two days with forty eight teams, which change from
(01:16:16):
thirty two, which will still be the case in Okay,
so eight games featuring all those teams, but that would
in theory expand I don't even know that they've decided
what that will be like. Is that just basically a
adding a team to each pod? Will you still advance
only sixteen out of the forty eight um I I?
Or is there an additional round of the tournament? Do
(01:16:37):
we know that? I don't know that. The Only thing
that I know is that it's done by region. Like
the area that we're in, you know, gets a couple
of extra bids, and then other places get extra bids,
and it assures some smaller areas will at least get
one where that's never been guaranteed before. But let's see
if this this, if this tells me opening stages comprise
(01:16:59):
sixteen groups of three teams and the top two will
progress to a knockout round with thirty two sides. So okay,
so you go right there. So then that means that
only sixteen teams will be eliminated in the group stage now,
and you'll advance to thirty two instead of sixteen, where
it's a knockout stage. So that'll arguably, I mean that
(01:17:20):
you would like to think that the US would almost
every year be able to make the thirty two because
basically that's a knockout stage game to begin with. Whereas
now and in the World Cup that is starting today,
there are thirty or so starting tomorrow there are thirty
two teams and only sixteen advance out. That's actually pretty interesting.
So so that's how I would argue a little bit
(01:17:41):
better UM for the World Cup. And uh, theoretically then
you get hopefully a couple of elimination games featuring the
United States men's team UM, which would be very very cool.
But again breaking news, uh, in the last hour, the
United States has been awarded the United States can today
in Mexico the World Cup for so eight years from today.
(01:18:05):
You may be a soccer fan who's disappointed that the
US is not playing in Russia, but United States Soccer
Federation with a huge win, uh, getting the right to
host the World Cup, first time that the World Cup
will be in the country since I believe the first
time the United States ever hosted. Am I correcting that,
I don't think we ever hosted before ninety four? Uh?
If we did, the last time the World Cup was
(01:18:26):
here regardless was So this is gonna be really cool. Um,
as you're waking up across the country, they're really very
exciting sports news. Even if you're not a soccer fan.
This is something that I think is gonna be hard
not to be excited about, particularly given the fact that
these games will be taking place across the within the
breadth of the United States seventeen cities. I'll run through
(01:18:49):
those cities. Uh for everybody at the start of our
three that are in the mix to be among the
ten that host games. We do know that the championship
game will be in New York City in the Giants
and the Jets Stadium out in East Brutherford, New Jersey. Uh,
that will be where the World Cup final will take place.
But you said how many games over the course of
(01:19:10):
thirty two days that's awesome. I mean that is gonna
be for an American sports fan, for a Canadian sports
fan Mexico as well, that's gonna be pretty phenomenal. And
this will be the first year that the that the
World Cup will have expanded to forty eight so certainly
that the NFL football fields that will be used. Um
a lot of excitement and fun coming in this respect. Again,
(01:19:32):
breaking news as you're waking up across the country. United
States has been awarded the World Cup. We are live
doing the show here. I am from Manhattan. We will
be live from the US Open on Thursday and Friday
Shinnica Hills Country Club. If we can get there, we'll
break that down for you. Our three, we're gonna talk
with Jason Whitlock. Encourage you to go download the podcast.
Hour one an hour two have been outstanding. Let's keep
(01:19:54):
rolling our three. Where's Lebron gonna go? We'll talk why
from the Guico out studios where fifteen minutes could save
you fifteen per cent or more on car insurance. Visit
Geico dot com for a free rate. Quote. Big news,
Breaking news as you're waking up across the country. Thanks
for hanging out with US here on out kick. The
(01:20:16):
United States, along with Canada and Mexico, has been awarded
the six World Cup. What does that mean? Sixty of
the eight games will take place in the United States,
ten in Mexico, ten in Canada. Major news breaking in
the last hour or so. If you are a United
States soccer fan and you have been upset over the
(01:20:38):
fact that the team did not qualify for the World Cup,
as many of you have been, well you got a
pretty good gift. This is a much bigger deal again.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico will host the United
States World Cup. Big win for Fox Sports, which will
be broadcasting a World Cup from the North American region.
(01:20:59):
Mex Ico will play games in Mexico City, Monterey, and Guadalajara.
In Canada, they will play games in Montreal, Edmonton, and Toronto.
And there are seventeen cities that were finalists in the
United States. They will expand or sorry retract that to
ten uh and ten cities in the United States will
(01:21:21):
host the World Cup games. Which are the seventeen cities
that our finalists right now? L A, New York, d C, Dallas,
Kansas City, Denver, Houston, Baltimore, Atlanta, UM, Philadelphia, Nashville, Seattle,
San Francisco, uh slash, San Jose, Boston, Cincinnati, Miami, and
(01:21:44):
Orlando are all of the theoretical locations that could host games. UH.
If I were guessing, I would say as follows, I
would say Boston, New York. This is me guessing on
which ten cities will get it. Boston, New York, UH, Washington,
d C, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston. I think Denver,
(01:22:11):
l A. And UH either San Francisco or Seattle. Uh so,
maybe Seattle, because I don't know that California. That's my guests.
I think Nashville will also be in the running. The
cities that I don't think we'll get it will be Cincinnati, Baltimore, Orlando, Philadelphia.
That would be my my cities that probably will not
(01:22:33):
get it. We will see. It should be exciting to
see which ten cities are gonna get it. Regardless. Major
news breaking this morning, US being awarded the World Cup.
Also worth noting, the World Cup is espicially expanding in
to forty eight teams. There will be forty eight teams
instead of thirty two. Expectation is the US as well
(01:22:54):
as Canada and Mexico will have a really good shot
of getting in. I think they'll just go ahead and
let all three of those countries in because, uh, Jason Martin,
you looked up the numbers Conka CALF, which is the
region that allows the United States to UH to play.
They're adding three new bids for the United States in
(01:23:15):
Canada and Mexico's region. I think what they'll say is
those three new bids for twenty uh six are going
to automatically go to the three host countries. So I
would be stunned if that's not what ends up happening,
especially because again that's the first year where they have
three new bids, there would still be the traditional three
bids to fight for UH in the rest of the
(01:23:38):
in the rest of the region. So I that's kind
of what I would expect to happen. There um other
big news that is out there, uh the A T
and T Time Warner decision. Time Warner is allowed to
be purchased by Time Warner. I would expect later today
that we will get an official offer from Comcast trying
to buy the Fox assets that Disney had previously agreed
(01:24:00):
to buy. Among those twenty one regional sports networks, which
will be a crown jewel for someone. This is gonna
be an epic media knockdown, drag out fight between Comcast
and Disney. We talked about that a lot in our
one UH. As Lebron turns, we continue to unpack where
he is going to go the latest odds market and
(01:24:22):
I believe I tweeted this out if you are following this,
and I love following the off shores as these details
continue to unspool, Where in the world is Lebron going
to go? It's a month long question. Nobody seems to
know for sure, but there are certainly a lot of
different teams that are out there competing to see where
(01:24:43):
Lebron is going to end up. And right now, the
l A Lakers are the favorite. The Lakers are favored
too to get Lebron James. It's now moved to minus
two hundred in some places in the offshore markets. Now
this can fluctuate substantially, but that corresponds with what LaVar
Ball said. LaVar Ball said he's gonna be a Laker,
(01:25:05):
and he said it on Fox Sports Radio. Here's that audio.
I don't believe Lebron's gonna be a Laker. I know
he's gonna be a Laker. I've told you to call
him l a Bron. So that is, UH, that seems
to be the expectation. We'll talk about with that, that
with Jason Whitlock. Other UH cities that are in the running,
certainly Houston, UH, Philadelphia. The Calves have continued to fade,
(01:25:27):
But it seems right now that all the momentum is
on Lebron to the Lakers. So let's presume that Lebron
is going to join the Lakers. I want to bring
in the crew. Am I incorrect in assuming as long
as Lebron James is demanding a max contract. Let's assume
the Lakers can sign Paul George and they can sign
Lebron James over under fifty five wins. Jason Martin, I
(01:25:52):
think that's a good number. Um, I would say, boy,
I think I'd say under Personally, I think it would
be between fifty and fifty five, So I think it
would be awfully close to that. But Lebron would be
moving with Paul George to probably get knocked out in
the second round. The second round. This would be a
(01:26:13):
team that's not good enough to win a title. But
you would hope in year one would be good enough
to win a series in the Western Conference. No, kind
of the one, four or five seed range would be
a legitimate expectation, right that, Like that's kind of where
that Laker team would peg itself, and you probably would
not be certainly as good as the Warriors, You wouldn't
be as good as the Rockets. Uh in that third slot.
(01:26:36):
We don't know what's gonna happen with the Spurs. Are
they gonna kind of put things back together between Gregg
Popovich and Kauai Leonard, But you kind of think that
you could slot in there around the four spot. You
assume Oklahoma City would fall back a little bit without
Paul George, and we don't know where all the free
agents are gonna move and everything else. But I would
think that that's where the Lakers would be in the
(01:26:56):
Western Conferences, right around that four or five slot. Yeah,
I mean maybe three. It just it just depends on
some of the movement, whether or not Kauai wants to
test the market, or if he sees the end nearing
in San Antonio, if he thinks Popovich is gonna step
aside relatively quickly due to changes obviously in his personal
life and maybe just getting tired of the grind of
(01:27:16):
the NBA. But the only way that the Lakers could
possibly win next year or even really compete would be
if they could it would be if Lebron were able
to convince Durant to leave the Warriors and join him
and try to reset the balance of power in the NBA.
I don't think that's likely. I think a lot of
people are gonna be going after Durant next year after
he probably signs another one year deal this year. That
(01:27:38):
would be fascinating if Lebron and Durant were both to
go to the Lakers. Now you're talking something very very interesting.
But Paul George, I'm sorry, I just have not seen
enough from quote playoff p in the playoffs. The next
time he does anything in the clutch will be the
first time he does something in the clutch. As good
a two way player as he is, I don't think
(01:27:59):
you in a championship with that guy is the second banana.
I think he's the third banana who has been placed
in second banana status, and you saw how that looked
in Oklahoma City. Lebron's obviously a better teammate to have
than Russell Westbrook. But I don't think you can do it.
I simply don't, And I don't think the depth exists
on that Lakers roster either. I think the Warriors would
love to see Lebron come to l A and I
(01:28:20):
honestly think Kobe might as well, because Kobe is doing
all he can right now to get back in this
discussion to potentially be Michael and him instead of Michael
and Lebron James. So if you were able to go
out there and not win championships, you can better believe
it would be Kobe talking about rings over the next
couple of years. Yeah, what about you guys out in
l A. Um, do you feel that you're gonna get
(01:28:40):
Lebron and over under fifty five wins? Is my? Is
my slotting in the Lakers as a team that can
win a single playoff series, finish in the three, four
or five range in the West? Roughly accurate in your mind? Well,
there's one x factor you guys are forgetting about shooting
guard Alex Caruso. Because of him, the Lakers could win
(01:29:02):
sixty with Lebron. No, I'm kidding, No, you guys are
you guys are right. You know he's actually a big
fan of is he really? What's up? Alex? Just kidding?
So I've been Boris gorange yea from Dockey or wherever
it is. I think the Lakers would be right around
fifty three wins. You you need to think about how
(01:29:23):
Julius Randall is. They're not going to be able to
re sign him, and he's been a big part of
the Lakers team the past couple of seasons. So as
Laker fans will miss Julius Randall, well, obviously welcome Lebron
with open arms, but I'm curious to see who Magic
would pair up with Lebron. I'm not sold on Paul George. Uh,
(01:29:43):
I'm just not. I mean, where's his clutch gene in him?
What's interesting to me. Let's say they do get Paul George. Right,
Let's say they get Paul George and Lebron James. What
would be interesting then is how many veteran guys would
then take less money where Ron might not, but other
guys might. I mean, you've heard all the scuttle butt
about Terever Aresa wanting to take a lot less money
(01:30:05):
to go play for the Warriors, which just that's just
embarrassingly nasty if that were to happen. But guys like
a reason going back to l A in his case,
but guys that have won, Guys that are tough, guys
that play defense, guys that fit certain modes seeing the
possibility of a championship that would be interesting. Like you
don't want to lose Julius Randall. I like Julius Randall,
(01:30:25):
but you can replace Julius Randall if you get the
right guys around you. Yeah, and I agree with that.
But what I'm my point was, you're getting Paul George,
who also doesn't put you over the top. I feel
not at all. The Lakers need another superstar who's just
underneath Lebron's realm, and then it would be something to
witness in the Western Conference. Also, if it's Chris Paul,
(01:30:46):
I don't think that's enough either Paul George, Chris Paul
and Lebron. I still don't think you've got enough. So Clay,
would it have to be the next season in free
agency that they really add like a B piece to
the A piece that that is Lebron. Maybe, And in
that it's into the complicated factor of how you're gonna
work the salary cap. And that's why I've been arguing
if I were Lebron, I would not insist on signing
(01:31:09):
for max contract money. I just wouldn't. I mean, if
you are making a decision just based on money, then frankly,
there's no way Lebron James should go to l A.
I mean, if you're deciding, let's let's say it's just money,
then you should only look at Houston and also at Miami,
because there's no state income tax in either Florida or
(01:31:31):
the state of Texas. I mean, if you're gonna make
and people say like, oh, why does that matter, Well,
if you are going to make a hundred million dollars,
let's say, let's just make it easy and say Lebron
James gonna make a hundred million dollars. That means that
he's paying almost fourteen million dollars to the state of California,
as opposed to the fourteen million that he would keep
in Texas and in Florida. I live in Tennessee. There's
(01:31:54):
no state income tax where I live. I don't make
anywhere near like the kind of money that Lebron James
is gonna make. But one reason why all of the
country music stars and all the musicians in general are
deciding to make their home in Tennessee as opposed to
living elsewhere is that lack of income tax. And I
think there are a lot of people listening to us
right now who are live in Texas or live in Florida,
(01:32:15):
and that is a major impact. I know when I
started going out to California to do television for Fox Sports,
I was blown away by the income tax rate in
California and the amount of money that would get taken
out of my paycheck. Over half of my money would
disappear before I even saw it when I did work
in California. And so if if everybody's out there like, oh,
(01:32:37):
Lebron has to get a max contract, Lebron has to
make as much money as possible. If that's Lebron James's goal,
then to me, the Rockets as a no brainer. If
you're just looking at the financial side of it, you
would have a better chance to win a championship and
you pay what is it now, like thirteen point three percent?
I think as the estate income tax in California, it's ridiculous.
You do not want to see our paychecks here. I mean,
(01:32:59):
I know because I was blown away the first time
that I did that um as opposed to sometimes you know,
I would get paid based on where I was physically located,
and when I was physically located in California for work
versus when I just got dialed up and did a
television hit from my house in Tennessee. It was massively
different in terms of the the income that I would
(01:33:19):
bring in. So I do think that's, uh, that's worth
factoring in a little bit in terms of the decision making.
So anyway, I think, look, we're gonna talk. We need
to get some music, like maybe some soap opera music
all mixed together for the Lebron James free agency search.
But the latest numbers right now in the off shores
they favor Lebron James moving to the l A Lakers.
(01:33:42):
There's virtually no one out there who is arguing that
he's gonna stay in Cleveland, and all of the money
in the off shores where you can bet on where
he's gonna end up pouring in on Lebron James going
to the Lakers. Up next, we're gonna talk with Jason
Whitlock will ask him where he thinks Lebron should go
ask him if he cares about the World Cup being
awarded to the United States. I know he's not a
huge soccer guy, but how big of a story does
(01:34:04):
he think that is? And UH we will continue to
unpack all of the news surrounding potentially UH Comcast issuing
out an official bid for the Fox assets. That's a
big story in the world of sports and media and
beyond what's happening this morning as we are alive from
Manhattan getting ready to do the show Thursday and Friday
(01:34:24):
from out in Long Island at Chinico Hills Country Club.
If you haven't already, go download the podcast. Brent Snedeker
was with us an hour one from out in Long
Island talking about the golf course and his expectations there.
An hour two we talked with Jeff Schwartz, and now
an hour three we will talk with Jason Whitlock. I
am Clay Travis. This is how kicked the coverage on
Fox Sports Radio. Car shoving and be confusing with terms
(01:34:48):
like dealer price, the list price, and invoys. True car
shows you what other people paid for the car you want,
so you can recognize a good price when you're ready
to buy a newer used car, visit trew Guard to
enjoy a more confident car by experience. We bring in
Jason Whitlock At Whitlock, Jason, you are a guy who
moved from the middle part of the country Indianapolis and
(01:35:08):
Kansas City to l A. Do you think Lebron James
is gonna follow your pathway to the Golden Land? Jason Whitlock,
I was I was hoping you're gonna say he's gonna
move to Indianapolis. Uh. I go back and forth. You know,
I get caught up in what group think, and everybody
says that Lebron's coming to the Lakers, and then and
(01:35:31):
then I think that Lebron's gonna do something surprising and
stay in the East. And so I would put it
this way, I'm fifty five percent sure he's going to
join the Lakers. The other forty five percent of me
says he figures out a way to stay in the East. Uh.
With this Philadelphia seventy six ers or somebody. Uh. We
(01:35:54):
had decision one point oh, matt led to Miami. We
had Decision two point oh, and that led to Cleveland.
Decision three point oh. Is still to be determined. How
much interest do you have in decision three point oh
two compared to the first two decisions. That's a great question.
I was really interested in the first one. Uh, wasn't
(01:36:16):
that interested in the second one. Although you know, I
thought the decision to go back to Cleveland was a
great right, I'm I'm not as interested and in this
decision because I think it stamps I don't like the
fact that Lebron James is gonna be a journeyman. I
(01:36:36):
think it's it's a bad precedent for other superstars that
following behind him. I don't like this thing of just
superstars going from team to team. I'm in the rooting
for my team, and you know, it's like, I'm a
lifelong Pacer fan, and when Paul George left, uh, it
(01:36:57):
irritated me and it pissed me off. And so I
just don't like the precedent that's being said that the
greatest player in the game it's just a guy that
hops some team to team. Uh. You know, I guess
Shaq didn't played for four or five different teams, But
I just don't like it. The other thing about Decision
(01:37:19):
three point oh I would point out is that as
long as the Warriors stay together, it's not like this
changes the expectations of which teams are gonna be great
in terms of contending with the Warriors, and so in general,
I think until the Warriors kind of break up, the
NBA is just playing for second place. Do you agree
with that as well? No, I don't. I don't. I
(01:37:40):
think that Lebron this year took you know, mostly role
players and should have won game one, and if they
had one game one against Golden State, I just think
that entire series is different. I still think Golden State
wins this series, but I think it's a seven game
series that they win game one and Golden State has
(01:38:03):
to fight for it. So if if if Lebron goes
somewhere and get to Paul George and one other really
jill player, I think he will have enough to knock
off the Golden State Wars. Well, you think about Lebron
showing up in his press conference in the cast, look
(01:38:25):
when there's much to like and enough to dislike about
Lebron James. He is a flawed character, a flawed champion.
He's a child star, he's royalty. Uh, he gets worshiped
by the media, and so that makes him a bit
delusional and looney from time to time. I compared it
(01:38:47):
to you know, what was wrong with Ted Kennedy and
the Kennedy family and they get worshiped, And so when
Ted Kennedy gets involved in a situation where he needs
to take responsibility for something, he just can't do it
because that's just not the way he was raised. He
he was raised in the state of delusion. Obviously, when
Lebron James did not as bad as what you know
(01:39:10):
Ted Kennedy did, you know, not even on the same planet.
But the delusion and the lack of responsibility and the
need to change the narrative. That's why I compared to
Ted Kenny putting that neck brace on when he went
to that funeral or whatever. Uh. You know, Lebron James
struggles taking responsibility for failure. He you know, we're calling
(01:39:35):
King James. He acts like a king when you look
at Lebron. I always say this, he has a lot
of people who surround him. I'm surprised that somebody wouldn't
have said to him, hey man, just get the cast
put on if you really need a cast. Six after
the sixteen minute press conference, like, it's not that big
of a deal that you need to have the cast
on for sixteen minutes, right, Like, your wrist is not
(01:39:58):
going to reveal that much faster if you've got this
cast on for the press conference. I think it was
Lebron wanting to send the message, Hey, we lost, but
I wasn't at my best. And oh, by the way,
the reason we got swept was because that idiot j R.
Smith forgot to actually call a time out. And that's
why I was so angry that I had to punch
a dryer race board. Look at what I did carrying
(01:40:19):
all these uh you know has beens and and and
lightweights to the finals. Let's focus on how good I
was and how much better I could have been if
I had just been able to be healthy. Like that's
the clear message that he's trying to send. Look, that
was not only he said it all season. He's celebrated
every accomplishment before the media could or directed the media. Hey,
(01:40:41):
I just scored my thirty thousand pointer. I'm the first
guy with x the number of points, rebounds and assist
and you know he did it all season. He celebrated
Lebron James and the media follow right along and celebrating Clay.
I was more astonished, because I'm not that surprised eyes
by Lebron James anymore. I was more shocked at just
(01:41:04):
how the media at that event refused to even question him.
You know, again, he comes out of that cast and
as far as I can see, no one saying, hey,
Lebron Man, that was really a terrible effort. We just
saw in game four the NBA Finals that was like
the NBA all started and they're like the Pro Bowl. Uh,
(01:41:28):
is any of that on you? You just took thirteen
shots in a deciding game of the NBA Finals. Did
you give your best effort? And and then you know
the question that you know, for him to come out
and say I punched a chalkboard and hurt my hand,
I would have been How bad a leadership is that
(01:41:48):
that you in your fifteenth year, you couldn't control your
emotions in the post game. We saw you melt down
on the sidelines after j R. Smith Did you know
the stupid thing to cost him the game? But even
after the game, you were still melting down, and therefore
you hurt your team, hurt yourself, cost him a chance
(01:42:10):
to compete against the Golden State Warriors, explain that, you know,
is this a knock against your leadership? How how bad
is this? Because what Lebron James basically said it was
like Jerry Smith did something stupid and I said, well,
hold my beer, I'm gonna do something dumber. Yeah, I
(01:42:31):
agree with you because I think the idea that when
it's different if you're like a seventeen or eighteen or
nineteen year old kid, but when you're thirty three and
you're still punching inanimate objects because you're upset at things,
especially and again, I would go back to what you
just pointed out. He's got a lot of time to
get over it. You know, that wasn't a close overtime game.
Once they got to overtime, they got run. So he
(01:42:51):
had at least a half hour to get over the
fact that the game ended in overtime the way it
did and the j R. Smith decision. Can you imagine
how people would have reacted if Lebron had broken his
wrist and had been out for the rest of the series.
I mean, he's lucky that it didn't happen, because that's
the kind of thing that would have shaded him forever. Well,
(01:43:11):
just suppose Kevin Love had done it, how we would
have trashed them? Uh for you know that level of stupidity.
And again, no one's vers versity. No one's saying anything
about Lebron James if and look, I tend to believe him.
I mean there's some people I've seen the video of
(01:43:32):
him doing push ups before game too. Uh. You know,
he's slapping five with his kids after Game four. There's
some people that think he's faking the entire injury. I
do believe he had some minor hand injury. I don't
think he's faking that. Uh. And so that's why I
just think he deserves some real criticism here. He's supposed
(01:43:56):
to be this great leader. Everybody goes on and on
and on about what a great teammate he is and
how he's the smartest guy in basketball. I'm someone that
this year during the playoffs, I compared him to uh,
Larry Bird in terms of just basketball intelligence and the
way he plays the game. I'm looking for a guy
that physically gifted, and then he does this to me
(01:44:19):
that that takes that comparison off the table. It's it's
almost as dumb as Jr. Smith not trying to score
the basketball. I have to grab it that rebound. We're
talking to Jason Whitlock. Go follow him on Twitter at
Whitlock Jason. I don't know if you've even seen this
news yet, because I know you're waking up on the
West Coast like a lot of people are. It's a
little bit after five thirty am Pacific time. United States, Canada,
(01:44:43):
and Mexico has been awarded the World Cup in Uh.
This could be pretty massive. Fox will have it um
in the game. Sixty of them will take place in
the United States, ten in Mexico, ten in Canada. Uh.
I'm sure when you were growing up you're a lot
like me. Nobody played soccer in indian Apolis. I bet
certainly not in the area you grew up. Where I
grew up in Nashville, nobody played soccer. I mean interestingly,
(01:45:06):
soccer in America, at least early on, was a rich
kids sport, whereas in the rest of the world it's
a poor kids sport. What kind of interest do you
have in soccer? And in eight years, what kind of
interest do you think you're having the World Cup taking
place here? Well, I'm very interested in the World Cup.
When America is playing in it, and so you know,
(01:45:27):
we need to qualify and make the World Cup in
eight years. But I'm sure regardless of what's going on
with America eight years, I'll be a lot more interested
in Every time I watch high level soccer, I'm just
amazed at the athleticism and the grace and just how
(01:45:47):
the game. Even though it's low scoring, it's still an
exciting game. And some of the things I see the
athletes do I don't think you. I don't think any
other athletes can do. Uh So I had some interest,
but you know, a growing interest. But you know, is
it American football? Not quite, But you know I have
(01:46:11):
a respect for soccer and the World Cup and and
look forward to it being here in America. One of
the things that we talked about regularly on this show
and also with you, is how crazy and zany the
world can be. Now when you saw Dennis Rodman being
interviewed in Singapore, if we could go back in time
twenty years, I got a couple of interesting questions on
(01:46:33):
this angle for you. I think the degree of crazy
and eccentricity and uniqueness of Dennis Rodman, I'm not even
sure who the modern day Rodman is in the world
of athletics. So if I could go back in twenty
years time to ninety eight when the Bulls won their
third title in a row, and I had told you, hey,
Jason Whitlock, twenty years from now, Dennis Rodman is potentially
(01:46:54):
going to be instrumental in bringing peace to the Korean
Peninsula and taking away nuclear weapons and make in the
world a safer place. Is there anybody in sports and
you would have considered less likely to be involved in
that than Dennis Rodman? And can you think we try
to do this on the show the other day. I
can't even think of who a modern day American athlete
(01:47:15):
version of Dennis Rodman would be. People might say Draymond Green,
but Draymond is not like that interesting Off the basketball court.
He seems like could be a regular dude. He's an irritant.
Who you got who is it? I don't even know, Well,
that's not somebody came up with that one. Odell Beckham
would be the guy who twenty years so now would
be Dennis Rodin. I don't I don't even know what
(01:47:39):
to think about Dennis Rodman and his role in this
and just Dennis Rodman just still seems so weird and
so I mean, he's got the ear rings in his
lips and no there. I just it's baffling and mind
blowing to me. And just someone did a collage of
(01:48:02):
all the different styles of dress in different ways that
Dennis Rodman has presented himself over the years, and it
just blew my mind. And it did make me think,
this guy is at the center of world politics, and
it makes me it makes me go, was Dennis Rodman
(01:48:23):
the CIA agent the entire time he was with the
Chicago Bulls. I mean on CNN Jason they referred to
h to Dennis Rodman as the man in the world
who knows Kim Jong Oon and Donald Trump better than anybody.
I mean, this is like if you were trying to
satirize this, Like satire doesn't exist in this country anymore,
(01:48:43):
because the things that actually happen are more ridiculous than
the things we could imagine happening. That is true. Uh.
I just I guess, look, if you're judging it on
Dennis Rodman, I guess it just says what Dennis Roban,
(01:49:04):
Donald Trump, and King John all having common, they're all
pretty freaky denominator. That would be a hell of a party.
And Donald Trump doesn't even drink, which makes it even
crazier to me, Like, if he drank all the time,
sometimes some of the things he would say, I'd be like, Okay,
well he's tipping a few back. Um, he doesn't drink
at all, So imagine what Trump drunk would be like.
(01:49:25):
We're talking to Jason Whitlock at Whitlock Jason on Twitter. Uh, okay.
We get into a lot of these controversies sometimes with you.
I think probably you are a man who has been
around a few fast food restaurants in your day. I
am a fan of Chick fil A, Absolutely love this place.
I don't even know if you saw this controversy. The
(01:49:45):
CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, apologized for posting the fact
that he had eaten that Chick fil A during Gay
Pride month. This to me, is one of the most ridiculous,
made up controversies I have ever seen. First of all,
and maybe this is just me, I didn't know that
June was Gay Pride months. Secondly, I've got a crazy
idea you can like chicken sandwiches from a fast food
(01:50:08):
restaurant and also support gay rights. Where are we going
down the rabbit hole of absurdity in the world of
social media where you have to apologize for the fast
food sandwich that you eat. Now, what is the controversy
with chick fil A and gay pride back in the yeah,
back in the day. Uh, chick fil A's founder, as
(01:50:30):
true at Cathy, is a very religious guy and he
did not support gay marriage. So his organization, through Chick
fil A, had donated money to some anti gay marriage, Uh,
you know, political groups, and so that turned into a controversy.
Most people, I think out there right now just say, man,
I don't care about the Chick fil A policy. And
(01:50:51):
they're not open on Sunday. It's kind of a sign
that they're a little bit religious. Uh, just make a
good chicken sandwich. But Jack Dorsey having to apologize for
eating at Chick fil a sam, which is peak outrage culture.
And so if he eats Chick fil A in May
or December or April, it's all good. It's just the
month of June that was the specific thing that it
(01:51:14):
was being particularly disrespectful because it's gay Pride month. You know.
I used to not when people would talk about the
culture war and they're coming after religion and things like that.
I used to roll my eyes and and I no
longer roll my eyes. I do believe that there is
(01:51:38):
such hostility now towards uh Christian values that and you
have these cultural icons and and shapers of our culture
and influences that have all now been geared towards uh
hostility towards Christian values. And Look, most people that were
(01:52:05):
raised Christian had to evolve as it related to their
point of view and perspective on on gay issues. I
get it. But but you know, we have to allow
people to evolve, and we should applaud people evolving, and
(01:52:27):
or we should just be respectful that there will be
some disagreement on certain things. So yeah, that that that
that in June. Look, man, our country is going crazy.
Uh And and it's not we can laugh these things off,
(01:52:51):
but it's it's just not good. Amen. That's a perfect
way to end it. On Wednesday, Enjoy the US Open,
Thanks for waking up early with us. It's Whitlock Jason.
Go follow him on Twitter. There, it's a great capstone
line there. Let me bring in Eddie Garcia get the
latest update in the world of sports. Well Claire. We'll
start with the breaking news from this morning, where in soccer,
(01:53:11):
FIFA announced that the United bid between the US, Mexico,
and Canada has been accepted. In those three countries have
been awarded the World Cup for US will be hosting
sixty of the eighty World Cup matches. In baseball, games
of note, battle for the top spot of the NL Central,
The Brewery shut off the Cubs for nothing, Milwaukee's got
a half game lead now on Chicago, Braves over the
Mets eight to two. Atlanta's got a one game lead
(01:53:33):
on Washington for the NL East lead. Nationals were shut
up three nothing, Red Sox over the Oriole six to four.
Boston is still tied with the Yankees for the a
L East lead, Astro's down the A six four, Mariners
over the angel six three, and Seattle is still a
half game up on Houston for the top spot of
the ALS. His report brought to you by True Car

True Price from True Car Now you can enjoy the
(01:53:55):
great price on car. Just to go to truecar dot com.
And let's go back to Clay try Of was the
guy coo I'll kick the coverage studios. That's right, We're
in the Geico OutKick coverage studios where you can say
fifteen percent or more on car insurance with Geico, go
to Geico dot com or call eight seven Auto. The
only hard part figuring out which way is easier. Kevin
Durant was on Jimmy Kimmel. We got some audio for
you from that, as well as the Warriors victory parade
(01:54:17):
and the Washington Capital's victory parade. Alexander of Vetchkin was
outstanding all that. To finish, I'm Clay Travis. This is OutKick.
What does it mean when Geico says just fifteen minutes
could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance?
To means you probably should have gone to Geico dot com.
Fifteen minutes ago. News US Canada Mexico awarded the World Cup.
(01:54:38):
For those of you waking up across the country, will
be a major topic of discussion in the world of
sports all day long. Came down in our one right
as we were about to go to our to you
go down on the podcast, you can listen to all
of our discussion of that major event, as well as
more major events in the World of Sports. Our guest
brand Snedecker live an hour one from the US Open.
(01:55:00):
He was fantastic. We will be live at the US
Open tomorrow and Friday out on Long Island in the
New York state area. And uh, we talked to Jeff
Schwartz an hour two. We just finished with Jason Whitlock.
He is always fantastic. Last night, Kevin Durant was on
Jimmy Kimmel and he was asked by Kimmel about the
j R. Smith screw up in Game one, and Kevin
(01:55:23):
Durant had this to say, j R. Smith in that
game one where he was confused and he knew in
the end. No, I'm just curious, like, do you feel
are you guys laughing, are you happy or do you
feel like compassion for him after something like that happens.
Definitely not. I mean I'm happy that he he made
that decisions, especially especially with the game on the line.
(01:55:46):
We needed that win for the sleep. But did you
know at that point, once you guys won that game,
because they really had a chance to steal that game,
did you know that it was over? Yeah? Yeah, we
all did. Had a good felling. We had a good felling.
We knew we had to play well, I knew. I
kind of broke them a little bit about it. It's
(01:56:06):
Kevin Duran on Jimmy Kimmel. Also, it was victory parade season.
Alex Ovechkin, who's been on a perpetual bender ever since
they won Game five out in Las Vegas. Not sure
he's still slept, has been everywhere he did. Keg stands
out of the Stanley Cup, he's been celebrating. I think
he was still drunk at the celebration. This is what
(01:56:28):
he had to say to all the Caps fans celebrating
a quarter century of futility coming to a close in
the Washington, DC area. Alex of alex of Ekin took
the mic and he said, this one and last thing
before the year, I s we're not gonna do so
this year is Stelling Cup. Yeah. I just feel like
(01:56:56):
the Russian accent in English, no matter what you say,
it sounds a little bit drunk, right. I mean, I
love that accent, but Alex Ovechkin, could I mean, you
always sound like you've just had an entire bottle of vodka.
When I hear a Russian accent in in America, I
love it, but I definitely assumed that there's that there's
vodka coming behind that. By the way, speaking of alcohol,
(01:57:17):
you can't be racist against Russia. I could be Russian
for all we know. I don't know where my DNA
is from. I can't be racist against myself, I don't think.
But maybe I am racist and my racist against Alexander
of Vetchkan. Uh did you see that they had Speaking
of alcohol, they had five hundred thousand dollars worth of
liquor in the Golden State Warrior. What were they like
(01:57:39):
in a bust during their parade out in the Bay Area?
A half million dollars in liquor? And Uh, there wasn't
really any kind of drunkenness in comparison to that one.
I mean, it's so igp you had a few things whatnot. Um.
By the way, I asked the question, what will the
verdict to be on this? I'm going to a Broadway
play today in the matinee by myself two o'clock Eastern.
(01:58:01):
I'm going to go see for the first time ever
Hamilton's I got my own seat. I bought it by myself,
had to go on StubHub. Going Broadway play solo fair
or foul. Jason Martin, Hamilton's a little bit different. I
think you gotta do what you gotta do to see Hamilton's. Now,
you have the ability to make that trip a little
bit more often than maybe I would. But if I
(01:58:22):
was up there and that was my option, I would
do it in heartbeat because that's something I want to
see in person. I mean, you know, you can go
get the CD or read it, but you need to
see that thing, and that, to me is totally different
than going to see a lot of others. Our boss,
Scott Shapiro has been like some times. He says it's
the greatest play ever. So I texted him to let
(01:58:43):
him know I'm going. So I'm going to the Matten
May at two o'clock. I'm actually pretty excited about it. Uh.
And then I'll head out to Long Island and we'll
see how that goes because we're gonna be lie from
the US Open. Yeah. How many hours do you think
it's gonna take me to go forty miles to get there?
I'm terrified at this uber. You you're gonna be in
an uber. I'm gonna be in an uber. Yeah, I'm
gonna be in an Uber for like I could be
(01:59:05):
four hours me and I. I I swear to God, I'm
telling you this right now. I am packing an extra shirt.
I'm just gonna sleep at the media center if it
takes me like three or four hours to get there,
because I'm not gonna turn around and drive all the
way back to the hotel and get up at two
am to come around back and do the show the
next day. I'm gonna like show up at Brandt Snedeker's
front door. I'm gonna show up outside of Tiger Woods
(01:59:27):
is yacht. I'm gonna find somebody who will let me
sleep at their place so I don't have to sit
in traffic for four hours to get to the US Open.
It's gonna be like tin Cup when they overslept basically
and missed the missed the tea off time for somebody.
I bet they missed their tea times. Anyway, it's gonna
be awesome. We're excited to be out there live uh
Thursday and Friday from Shinnico Hills will be live out there.
(01:59:47):
If you're on the course, look for me. I'll be
the attractive bearded man walking around in shorts and golf shoes.
I'm wearing my golf shoes on the course. Yes, I
really am By like shorts versus pants. Gotta go shorts.
I am Clay Travis, Spectacle or show downloaded. This is
our kick
