best Friday of the year in the NFL. You're down
to four games. You're down to thea ethically the eight
best teams too on Saturday. Two on Sunday, the divisional

(01:06):
round of the playoffs. In fact, we're down to seven
football games left in the NFL this year, which means
you need to make sure that you're watching games on
Saturday and Sunday, if only because once the Super Bowl ends,
we had college football end on Monday night. Once the

(01:26):
super Bowl ends, in about what a month, a little
bit less than a month, about twenty one days, you'll
be sitting around staring at the wall for all of May,
all of June, all of July, thinking I can't wait
for football to get back here. So you've got four
big games going on, and I think all four of

(01:47):
them could go in any possible direction, because that's often
times what happens in the divisional round of the playoffs.
So I asked you guys last night late which NFL
team is most likely to pull off the upset this weekend.
You can go vote it to the very top of
my tweets at Clay Travis um and over twenty thousand

(02:11):
of you have voted since I put out this tweet
last night. I said, which NFL team is most likely
to pull off the upset this weekend? The Colts, the Cowboys,
the Chargers, or the Eagles. And you guys are voting
right now, and I'll tell you what your results are,
but I'll first tell you who I think is the
most likely to pull off the upset, and I think

(02:31):
the answer is the Chargers. I don't just think the
Chargers are going to cover as a four and a
half point underdog in this game. I think they're gonna
win out right, because I think the Patriots are just
an okay team. And let me give you a couple
of reasons why I think that's the case. The Patriots
are eleven and five this year. As part of that

(02:52):
eleven and five, they have lost obviously five games. All
five of those games have been to teams that did
not make the playoffs. The Detroit Lion Lions, the Jacksonville Jaguars,
the Tennessee Titans, the Miami Dolphins, and the Pittsburgh Steelers,
all five of those teams sitting on the sideline when

(03:13):
the season ended. In the history of the Brady Belichick dynasty,
the most games the Patriots have ever lost two non
playoff teams three the average number of losses over the
last twenty years the Patriots have had two teams that
did not make the playoffs during the Brady Belichick dynasty

(03:37):
one point eight. This year's Patriots team is just not
very good, and a big reason why they're not very good.
Is Rob Gronkowski is a shell of his former self.
The Chargers almost wanted to say, San Diego Chargers. I
keep trying to catch myself. The Chargers have the best

(03:59):
overall dfense in the NFL against tight ends. That means,
if you look at the numbers, it's very unlikely that
Rob Grenkowski is gonna make any kind of plays at
all down the field in the passing game for uh
for Tom Brady. The Chargers also have the best scoring defense.

(04:20):
Since Week five in the NFL, they have allowed the
fewest points of anybody in the NFL. They're the only
team right now that is both top ten offensively and
top ten defensively overall in terms of total offense and
total defense. I don't just think the Chargers are gonna win.
I think they're gonna win by a touchdown or more. Potentially.

(04:44):
I think they are going to go on the road,
and I think they are going to end the Brady
Belichick dynasty because I think once the Patriots lose this year,
they're gonna be a lot of questions to answer about
the future of this team, team and where they are headed.
And I think a lot of those questions are gonna
be difficult to answer. So my suggestion is, of the

(05:09):
four teams that are out there as we roll into
the divisional round of the playoffs, I think the Chargers
are the most likely to pull off the upset. I
also think the Colts are the second most likely team
to pull off the upset because it wouldn't shock me
at all if the Colts go on the road in
Kansas City and beat the Chiefs now. It looks like

(05:31):
there's gonna be some weather conditions, maybe some snow that's
gonna hit during this game in Kansas City. I don't
think that really matters in the grand scheme of things. Uh.
If anything, I think that might even help the Colts
because I think the Colts with Marlon Mack have the
superior running rushing offense. Given given the fact that qualm

(05:53):
that that we already lost Kareem Hunt as a Kancity
Chief running back, they just haven't been able to put
to other the same caliber of Russia attack ever since
they lost Kareem Hunt. Meanwhile, the Colts have gotten better
and better at at the Russia attack as the season
has gone on. Marlon max a legit threat, and I

(06:14):
think the Colts will try to take a little bit
of air out of this game by proving that they
can run the ball and then relying on Andrew Luck
on third down. So I think if both of these happened,
and I think there's a decent chance that both the
Colts and the Chargers pull off the upsets on the
road this weekend, we could have a twenty five thousand
seat a f C championship game that would be hosted

(06:36):
by the l A Chargers in a soccer stadium. That
would be wild to see. Maybe they would consider moving
that game. So I think both of those are substantial
likelihood of upsets the Cowboys. I think the Cowboys have
a decent chance of going on the road and getting
an upset win. Also, I think that it the Rams

(07:01):
down the stretch have not been that reliable of a team,
and their offense in particular has looked a very mediocre
against the Bears. I thought the offense looked very mediocre
against the Eagles when they got whipped, and frankly, they
weren't that good against the Lions. Now they got a
little bit healthy late by beating the Cardinals and the

(07:22):
forty niners. But I'm not convinced that that is representative
of the offense that we're going to see in the playoffs.
Everybody out there wants to hire Sean McVeigh. Been talking
about this all week, um and uh and and it
continues to be wild because to me, back in the
day when everybody wanted to hire Bill Belichick coaching disciples,

(07:44):
at least the Patriots were winning virtually every year. They
were in the middle of being a dynasty. Sean McVeigh
is still only I believe thirty two or thirty three,
and he's never won a playoff game yet. So this
idea that that he is the one that everybody needs
to emulate is fascinating to me because it's, uh, it's

(08:05):
not yet justified by on field results. Last year they
lost at home, the Rams did to the Falcons this year.
It wouldn't shock me if the Cowboys went on the road,
particularly because there's gonna be a home field advantage for
the Cowboys in l A. There will be more Cowboy
fans in the coliseum than there will be Ram fans.

(08:26):
I think the Cowboys that would not shock me if
they found a way to get this win either, and
certainly I like them to cover. The only team that
I feel like is going to win with ease this
weekend at home is the New Orleans Saints, and uh,
and I I just love the Saints in this situation.
I think they win by double digits. I think the
Eagles finally the Rose looses its bloom on the Nick

(08:50):
Foles era, and so that is the most likely outcome
I think in that game is that the Saints pull
away and win by double digits. I love that Sean
Payton brought in the Lombardi Trophy with over two hundred
thousand dollars in cash to let the guys know what
they're playing for. Uh. If you only make four or
five hundred thousand dollars a year, which some of those

(09:10):
guys do, it's a big get to add two hundred
thousand dollars to your overall income. Think about what means
for a lot of people out there right now if
you suddenly got a fifty percent bonus at the end
of your of your work year. So we'll see what happens.
My predictions I'm giving to you early. I think the
Chargers win out right. I like the Colts to cover.

(09:32):
It wouldn't shock me if they want out right. I
like the Cowboys to cover. Wouldn't shock me either if
they want out right. But I do think the Saints,
as the substantial favorite, gets the win with ease. So
the poll question that is up right now that you
guys have an opportunity to vote in with nearly twenty
one thousand votes cast, which NFL team is most likely

(09:54):
to pull off the upset this weekend? The OutKick Nation
out there believes that the answer as the Colts. Thirty
eight percent of you are voting that you believe the
most likely NFL team to pull off an upset is
the Colts. Thirty percent of you all in on the
l A Chargers. Then twenty percent of you like the
Cowboys to pull off the upset, just twelve percent of

(10:17):
you like the Eagles to pull off the upset. In
terms of lines, UH Vegas is telling us the Chargers
are the most likely to pull off the upset, followed
by the Colts. So those are my picks again, I'm
on the Chargers, I'm on the Colts, I'm on the Cowboys,
and I'm on the Saints. Uh. In that order, those

(10:37):
are my picks as we head into the weekend. You're
getting them early. We have a loaded show for you.
In our one we will talk with my guy Lance Taylor. UM.

(16:28):
fan as you get ready for the game against the Cowboys,
how confident are you in the Rams? Well, I'm not
confident because the last time the Rams were in this
spot was two thousand and five and it was a
game I was at the Georgia Dome, you remember the
old Georgia Dome against the Falcons and it's a visital
matchup where they got run up the field by thirty points.
That was so long ago. The last time the Rams

(16:48):
were in this spot, I was carrying a razor phone
play let's see the iPhone days. So it's been a
long time, and you know, the older we get um.
If your team is has an opportunity to the can
run in the Super Bowl, you just never know when
you're gonna get back there. These windows close quickly in
the NFL. And you know, for the Rams, they played
their worst football in the final month of the season,

(17:09):
and I think it got campic flaws a little bit
because the final two games a week sixteen, weeks seventeen
where against Arizona in San Francisco. Games they would have
won anyway. So I think there's a false sense of
hope right now. And you know, if the Rams play
like they did in September, October, November, I think they'll
be fine. If they've got healthy Todd Gurley, that's still
an unknown. But you know, the biggest recipe for success

(17:29):
in the NFL on the road in the playoffs is
a great defense and being able to run the football.
When you got ze Kelly and you got the Cowboy's defense,
I mean, you know they can make a little bit
of a run. Here are you stunned? For a long
time the NFL was we want to be Bill Belichick, right,
we want the next Bill Belichick. And so it didn't
matter how successful you were really as an assistant coach,

(17:51):
whether it was Romeo Cornell, whether it was Eric Mangini,
whether it was Al Grow, Matt Patricia, Charlie Wise, Josh McDaniels,
this long litany of coaches who would get jobs and
then fail who were just connected to Bill Belichick because
everybody was trying to find the next Belichick. Now everybody

(18:12):
wants the next Sean McVeigh. And it's like, if you
your coach has had any connection at all to Sean McVeigh,
everybody's getting hired. The Bengals now it looks like you're
gonna hire a McVeigh guy. Uh La Fleur got the
job in Green Bay because of his connection to Sean McVeigh.
Cliff Kingsbury, we obviously know what he did with Patrick
Mahomes in college. But he gets the he gets the job,

(18:35):
and they say that he's Sean mcveigh's friend in the
in their release announcing that they are hiring him. I
mean it is wild. I think the degree to which
everybody wants to be Sean McVeigh right now, um are
you surprised by how quickly the NFL has decided that
McVeigh is the next genius in their industry, particularly because

(18:56):
he hasn't won at least one playoff game yet. Yeah. Yeah,
And the point, I think it's really dangerous. And I
talked about this yesterday in depth. I love sew today
and he's obviously turned this organization around. I mean, it
was completely pathetic. It was non existent under Jeff Biser
for a decade and he comes in at thirty one.
He's not even thirty three yet. Have you thirty three
a couple of weeks and he's done just an incredible

(19:16):
job of relating to the players, an innovative offense. It's
fun to watch, it's a great product. But you go
back to last anywhere in its divisional game against the
Falkins and the College Seas and they were favored. They're
gonna be by bubble didn't. And if he loses this weekend,
and that's that's a big possibility, he's gonna be going
to in the postseason. And everyone wants the next McVey.
To me, you've got to be able to win championships

(19:38):
and can show that you can do it on a
consistent basis and with a regular season has been some
consistency in back to back years. But it's not only
the McVeigh tree, and look, you had to endure what
to me, I was very underwhelmed and at times a
bad Tennessee kitan offense on the mat floor. Um, now
you're going out and you're getting guys they couldn't get
it done at the power five level in Cliff Kingsbury

(19:58):
just because he's got that young look and he's an
offensive guy. I think Cliff Kingsbury there is no chance
he's the ears on a cardinal head coach if Sean
McVeigh doesn't have the success he has. And Cliff Kingsbury
and Sean McVeigh, Uh, those guys have you know, nothing
in common as far as a coaching three. So I
think it's really dangerous. I think most of these experiments
are going to crap out. And you know, I do

(20:20):
have confidence that Sean McBey will win eight championships sooner
or later. I think his his football intelligence is that good. Um,
and he could be this year, but again it could
be oh and two after Saturday night. If you were
looking around and an offensive football seems to be the
buzz word. Right, everybody who's getting hired just about now

(20:41):
is on the offensive side of the ball and being
able to score points and work with today's young quarterbacks
and everything else seems to be the focal point. Um,
why is nobody calling Mike Leach at all? You know,
somebody brought this up yesterday. If you can hire a
Cliff Kingsbury, why can't you hire a Mike Leach. I
don't under stand it. You know the thing that you've heard,

(21:02):
and I've heard and many others heard. One of the
reasons Mike Leach couldn't get more of a credible job
and I'm doing air quote to her when it comes
to Power five jobs, and he's been stuck in places
like Lubbock and now Pullman is because administration and boosters
didn't want to deal with the weirdness and the quirks
of a guy like Mike Leach. When it comes to
the NFL, who cares um, So yeah, I'm really surprising.

(21:24):
I think Mike Leach is such an experimental guy. Although
he kind of likes these anonymous places that he's been in,
I think he would love an opportunity to take his game.
And he's just such a student in such a chemist
that I think he would love to be able to
play around in the NFL. And I would be fascinating
to see how that would work out. And look, I

(21:45):
mean a lot of these postgame press conferences and the
Tuesday press conferences are awful. Um, you know, I think
he'd be a shot in the arm. I do think
it would be really intriguing to see how he would
do as an NFL head coach. Um, just because there
hasn't been that experience, it really um and uh, if
you're going after offensive scoring, same thing by the way,
with Dana Holger said, I mean, there are a lot

(22:06):
of guys out there in college football, even my GUNDI,
who have pretty advanced offensive systems that it would be
intriguing to see if you're focused now on the offensive
side of the ball. Because I think the NFL has
moved from for a long time we heard, oh, that
offensive game plan won't work in the NFL, right, And
now I think the NFL has wholeheartedly embraced so many

(22:29):
different concepts from college football that for a long time
the NFL kind of viewed with disdain. And so I
think it's likely that that that there could be some
fun experiments taken. Um, I think it's gonna be a
train wreck coming up to play. I mean, I go
back to the mid nineties, after you know, Tarantino's breakout
film Pulp Fiction. Every director in Hollywood, every writer wants

(22:51):
to be the next Tarantino. And we saw a lot
of Tarantino ripoffs in Hollywood and they were awful films. Yeah,
and they just never lived up to the genre that
that actually, you know what he was. Nobody was able
to replicate that. And I think Sean McVeigh um in
thirty one did a great job in winning the NFC
West and back to back years and getting to the
playoffs and back to back years. But um, again, it
hasn't equated anything. And I think there's there's one Sean

(23:13):
McVeigh again, a guy that hasn't won a championship, and
there's all of these other guys that that organizations want
them to be and these guys just aren't proven. It
will be interesting to see whether this is very similar
to what happened with Belichick, where everybody kept tiring Belichick
disciples and they all failed because they weren't Bill Belichick.
Whether Sean McVeigh is also uniquely just very good at

(23:37):
coaching offensive football, and his talents don't necessarily pass to
other people despite the fact that they are running very
similar systems. Um. I also wonder the NFL is very
much of a copycat league. Remember when Steve Spurrier came
into the NFL with the Washington Redskins, and the idea was, oh,

(23:57):
Dan Snyder went and got his guy. If I remember correctly,
Spurrier is going to be so good here with the Redskins,
like how impactful he was gonna be, and then he
kind of fell on his face. And we really haven't
seen an experiment like that from college in a long time, right,
where you went and got a guy who was really
successful at the college level and brought him up. Now,
Cliff Kingsbury is not insanely successful, certainly at the college level,

(24:21):
but this is a big gamble on youthful vigor and
uh and what the impact can be on on the league.
All Right, So you said you're a little bit apprehensive
and nervous about what the Rams might face against the Cowboys.
If you had to pick a team to pull off
the upset this weekend, would you go Colts Would you
go Chargers, Would you go Eagles? Would you go Cowboys?

(24:41):
Who has the best chance to win? Well, I will
tell you my perfect week in will be a combination
of the Rams winning on Saturday Night against Alice and
then the Eagles continuing this Nick Foles magic and knocking
out the Saints. Therefore, Eagles would have to come to
the College Sea the NFC Championship game. Um, I don't
see that happening. Um you know, I'm gonna get on
this co training And I said it last week watching them.

(25:01):
They have to look the team they can win three
road games and get to the Super Bowl. I think
the Colts are actually going to go to the Super Bowl.
I think they're gonna play the Patriots in Foxborough. And
you think about the past, and Andrew Luck will have
to go on from Houston to Ksey to Foxboro just
to get to Atlanta super Bowl fifty three. But I
look at this Colts team. They're playing great defense. If

(25:22):
they're able to run the football like they did last
week with Marlon Back, of the combination of Andrew Luck
in the level he's playing at, that's gonna take a
healthy t Y Hilton because he's such a catalysts in
that offense. And I know you've got a bumb ankle
right now, but I just got the sneaky filling. The
Colts on the road in Herohead a team that just
can't win in the playoffs. I mean, you look at
the Chiefs there one and ten in the playoffs since
the start of six at home. Um I think that's

(25:45):
in their head right now. And this is patrick homes
first playoffs started. Grisi's been with the fifty touchdown passes
this year and probably your lead m v p Um,
I'm just gonna on the road game. If the Colts
go on the road and win, do you feel like
the Chargers have a chance also to go on road
and win in the a f C? Or do you
like the Patriots here? Well? They do and and I'll
say that. You know last week in wild card I

(26:06):
was three and one of my one loss was the Chargers,
and I don't think Baltimore could have played worse. Did
you leave the Patriots? They want eight street playoff games
at home. They were the only team to go eight
no at home this year. Um is you know this
didn't look the same Patriot team that we've seen in
the past still Tom Brady, and I think it was
an extra week off for Frankowski to get a little healthier.
Umlip Rivers and the Chargers having to go, you know,

(26:30):
the West coast to East coast, back to West coast
to East coast and back to back weeks for that
ten am start West coast time. I think it's only
got to catch up with him. I like the Patriots
in I think George play or a better team, but
I think the Patriots just win because of all all
the other elements that are involved. Saints or the field. Um,

(26:51):
if I'm smart, and I always take the field because
I think it's there's so much balance right now. And
I think any of these eight teams realistically on the
Super Bowl this year. Um, but I'm gonna try the
reverse teams and I'm gonna say the Saints here. I
think it was really teasy what Tom Payton did. I
think a lot of people loved it. The motivational of
the Lombardi Trophy and the ring and the over two
dollars and kids with the arm guards. I think I

(27:13):
think it was early. I don't think you need to
do that against the six seat. I think you do
it before the NFC Championship game if you're hosting a
a Cowboy or Rams team. Um, but I'm gonna say
the Saints because I think they are the best team
right now. Um, but I hope that's not the case.
We're talking to Lance Taylor at the Lance Taylor on
Twitter jocks down in Birmingham. I know you didn't make

(27:34):
the trip out to h to saying, uh, saying Jose
to go watch the game. But what has the reaction
been in the state of Alabama to the shellacking that
Nick Saban and the Tide got on Monday night. I
still think there's a lot of shell shock. Um. You
know because and I think you would agree with this too.
There's there were four ways this game to go. Um,

(27:55):
Alabama wins a close won, Alabama blows out Clemson. Clemson
wins a closer. Clemson blows that Altaday, him and d
is the action we never saw coming. Um. I really
thought Alabama would win this game by ten to fourteen
point two. I watched both of these teams a ton
this year. Clinson was the second best team in college football.
Before the season started, I thought Clinston would win the
National Championship, and after watching the season unfold, I just

(28:17):
thought Alabama was the better team, and I don't think
there was really um any element of that game that
that that Alabama looked to be the better team. And
to me, I'm still kind of blown away with how
Dominic Clinson was. Everything broke right for Clinson, But the
thing that really blew me awake lay with the second
overall scoring offense in college football. Alabum had zero points

(28:39):
for basically the final forty four minutes of that game.
And I know Cleinson had a dominant defense this year,
but for two of the logs in that offense, with
those whiteouts and those backs to be shut down for
forty four minutes after what we saw the first te
minutes of that game, it just blows me away. Still
already Albabamas hands or still last question for you, as

(29:01):
as you kind of look forward, can you imagine what
it's gonna be like for Trevor Lawrence to be on
a campus in theory not able to leave for the
next two years. Um as much of a celebrity as
he's gonna be. I don't know that we've ever seen
this before where a guy wins the national title as
a true freshman clearly would potentially be the number one

(29:24):
overall pick in the in the NFL draft. And now
he's sitting back and he has the opportunity to be
on campus the next two years. How much of a
celebrity is he gonna be? Oh my gosh, So I
I go back to Matt Leiner and probably and that's
a guy, you know pretty well, a guy that's the
fun that he probably had in Los Angeles when you

(29:45):
know he was quar Look, he was a good looking guy.
But Trevor Lawrence has just got a look that is
you can't even really describe it. Um, it's really unique me.
You know, my girlfriend said, I think there's probably a
lot of girls that are envious because he's got thick, long,
straight hair that a lot of girls really won't. Um,
he's just got a weird two nique look. And I

(30:08):
mean the world really is his And this is a guy, um,
you know, to have your coming out party on that
stage as good as he was in the regular season
and got better and better each and every week, but
to be able to come out and completely dominate, to
not take a sack, to not turn the football over,
to go for almost three fifty and three touchdowns against
an Alabama defense on that stage of the women National

(30:28):
Championship at nineteen UM. I don't know. I think that's
how the other day playing You tell me what you
would do with this based on the a cc wheld
they are. If I put his career losses now at
Clemson in one and a half, would you take the
over will be under his career losses? Yeah, for the
next two years one and a half. Yeah. Well, first

(30:48):
of all, they're gonna be so good next year that
I think we're gonna see Alabama and Clemson meat for
a fifth straight year, UM in the playoff, if not
in the title game. So I don't think they're gonna
lose next year. And it's not just a function of
how good they are. It's also that nobody in the
a SEC is anywhere near the Miami is gonna be down. Uh,
Florida State is still mediocre at best. UM. I just

(31:11):
don't know where the challenge is going to come from
in the a c C for them. I feel like
at some point, when you have that many wins in
a row, the wheels might come off, just because you
start to take everything for granted. But that's crazy, You're right.
I mean, in the next two years, it's not insane
to say, hey, well they will they losing it. I
think next year Alabama will come back and get them.

(31:32):
So I think in the rubber match, Alabama will find
out to get way to get a win against Clemson. UM.
But but it is wild that you can even ask
that question. Yeah, because let me think about it. In
the next two years, if he has an undefeated season,
seems uh, then the other season he's not gonna lose
multiple games. I mean, I think the number is one
or two. I mean, if he stays healthy, I think

(31:52):
at max he loses two more games in his career.
And it's just insane when you really think about that
in today's college football. But I think he's that good
and I think that most and he's done that kind
of a job. I mean, it's it's exactly what Nick
Saban's doing doing right now, assembling that type of talent.
And these two programs have separated. I said, I know,
I said last question, but quickly here, would you take
Kyler Murray in the first round? Do you think he

(32:14):
should go to the NFL or college or the Major
League Baseball? We had a big discussion about this yesterday. Yeah,
you know, it's amazing where we are on quarterbacks um
eating but I think threw Breeze, Russell Westbrook obviously I
was excuse me, Russell Wilson and Baker Rayfield, you know,
actually limited themselves to help out where Kyler Murray is
right now because we've never seen quarterbacks under six me

(32:35):
and when you look at Kyler Murray, he might be
five towns. So I think he's even for level. But
if you're desperate per quarterback, I'm not sold on Dwayne
Haskins and your next best quarterbacks meet Daniel Jones out
of Duke um If if I warn him, I take
I take a risk at the end of the first
round because if you don't take him in the first round,
he's probably gonna go play baseball. But if you are

(32:55):
Kyler Murray and you get dropped, you gotta come test
the lottery. You're only twenty one. You can always going
to be You're gonna make twice as much money in
the NFL, and there's a chance you know you're gonna
get on the field next September October, And if you
play baseball, you can be in Stockton, California. So, um,
if I'm a team I really need a quarterback, I
probably roll the dice where the game is right now.
I'm just not sold at his size. And I know

(33:16):
we've heard this all his life that he actually can
have a productive NFL career. Ball see good stuff is
always Lance Taylor at the Lance Taylor on Jocks in Birmingham.
I am Clay Travis. We come back. I'll pull the
crew who is most likely to pull off the upset.
I'll also update all of you on what's going on
with the poll question, which is pretty simple. Which underdog

(33:39):
this weekend is likely to pull off the outright when? Um,
And keep in mind, in the last fifteen NFL games,
fourteen underdogs have one. If you hadn't even looked at
the matchups and you would just blindly bet on the
underdogs in the last fifteen NFL games, you'd be fourteen
and one. Will that continue into the weekend, We'll find out.

Pull question for the day. As we head into the
divisional round playoffs in the NFL, which NFL team is
most likely to pull off the upset this weekend? Thousand
of you have voted already Colts, Cowboys, Chargers, Eagles want
to pull the Crew? My prediction is the Chargers are

(34:46):
the most likely to pull off the upset. Uh, what
say you, Danny G Yeah, my head kind of tells
me the Chargers too. But every time you've picked against
the Patriots this season, New England seems to have had
a huge win right after you've written them off, So
I think you might have jinx that one. So I'm
gonna stay with my Colts prediction of them staying on

(35:07):
this hot streak. Uh. In a quick stat here for
what it's worth, the Colts and Chiefs have met four
times in the postseason, all since the mid nineties. Casey
has lost every time, and as we saw last weekend
in the playoffs, things slowed down. It boils down a
lot of times to your defense and your running game,
and not having Kareem Hunt I think is gonna hurt

(35:28):
Kansas City this weekend. Sorry Chiefs fans, But Darius Leonard
and that Colts defense and Marlon Mack running the ball
for the Colts I think could be the difference. I'm
gonna say the Colts by a field goal, which would
be brutal to Chief fans who have not won a
home playoff game since at the start of our two

(35:49):
I'm gonna run through that list of failure. For the
Chiefs to have had that much all line up and
not work in their direction is pretty pretty unbelievable, honestly, Um,
when you look at ed history for it to have
been that long since they wont a home playoff game. Uh,
Eddie Garcia, who you got? You watch a lot of
the Chargers because your wife has season tickets? Um? Are

(36:12):
you with me? Do you think they have a good
chance to pull off the upset on the road against
the Patriots. I'm with you in spirit, and I hope
you are correct, But no, I am with the listeners,
and I am with Danny g I'm taking the Colts
as well. The Chiefs rookie quarterback Andy Reid losing record
in the playoffs. I don't think that she is oh
in six in their last home playoff games. I don't

(36:32):
think the Chiefs defense is that grid. I think if
the Colts go down to score early touchdown, it will
suck the life out of that stadium, which doesn't make
any sense. There's that they're bad at home, because that
seems like such a great postseason and playoff environments. Adam
vin Terry, Uh, I know he's not the best kicker
in the league anymore, but in a clutch kick in
the postseason, who would you rather have than that guy?
Andrew luck Is steady. I'm gonna go with the Colts.

(36:53):
What about you? Who you got? My heart wants the Chargers,
but I have to go Colts. I mean Kareem Hunt
since his last game there three and two, the Chiefs
are and two of those three wins are against the Raiders,
and the third win needed some miracle work against the Ravens.
I think the culture just rolling right now. I'm going
with them. What if the Chiefs and I don't even
know what the rule is on this, what if the

(37:15):
Chiefs just resigned Kareem Hunt. Like, what if they acknowledge,
you know what, we're not anywhere near as good of
a team. In our bye week, we set around and
we you know, analyzed our rush attack. We realized the
one thing we needed to do was be better with
the football. We feel like Kareem Hunt has been punished enough,
and so we're signing him back for the playoff run.

(37:37):
What would the reaction be? Do you think most people
would be? Like? I tend to think you could probably
get away with it, right, Like if I'm the Chiefs
and I don't know why sometimes teams don't just do this,
because I do think that you're right, there's a substantial
difference on this offense without Kareem Hunt. They haven't really
been able to replace his skill set. What if they

(37:58):
just went back to the drawing board and said, you
know what, we feel like he served his long enough suspension.
I mean, I think Kareem Hunt could be signed by anybody, right,
I don't know what the rule is. If somebody could
look that up. It's actually a fascinating question. Like let's
say that Ezekiel Elliott got hurt for the Cowboys. Could
they go signed Kareem but they still found a way
to win against the Rams, and they're in the NFC

(38:20):
Championship game against let's say the Saints. Could they go
signed Kareem Hunt to play in the playoffs, wouldn't he
still have to serve some sort of penalty under the
league rules? I don't know, because I don't know what
the league is doing right now. First of all, he's
been out now, has he missed five games? Looking that

(38:41):
up right now? So theoretically, I'm just saying, like, if
you go into the second let's say you're advancing to
the a f C or the NFC Championship game, he
would have then set out six games, which I think
is the maximum penalty that you can get for a
domestic violence incident, right And I don't know. That would

(39:01):
be my argument. If I'm Kareem Kareem Hunts people, I'm
gonna be like, yeah, he should be eligible to play
Week one of next season because he set out all
these games already, maybe has to sit out one regular
season game, but the NFL hasn't officially punished him. Um
so I think he would be eligible to play. It
would be a crazy move, Roberto, who you got? I'm

(39:22):
going with the Colts as well. The offensive line has
been one of the best is here in the NFL.
That Andrew Luck to what health to connection is back
and then and read in the playoffs is just awful.
And that Chiefs defense is terrible as well. We'll dive
into that Chief's history. They have not one since Joe
Montana was their quarterback. We will dive into that. Will
also answer my hypothetical question, could somebody just try and

(39:43):
sign Kareem Hunt? Now? I don't know what the rule is.
We haven't seen this arise very often, but I think
certainly the Chiefs are missing him. Rolling into our number
two I hope you guys are having fantastic Fridays wherever

Kareem Hunt currently on the Commissioner's Non Exemptalist or whatever

(40:53):
that thing is called. So UH, I do wonder if
the Chiefs lose, and we're about to run through through
some of their history and the playoffs, as they have
not won a home playoff game. Since if the Chiefs
a lose, are there gonna be people who go back
and say, you know what, the Chiefs made a mistake
when they decided to release Kareem Hunt, because I do

(41:15):
think that their struggles down the stretch have certainly corresponded
to a great deal with the absence of Kareem Hunt
in UH in their team. Now you can also say
it's really the defense regardless that's been costing the Kansas
City Chiefs down the stretch. Pretty much every game, you
can point to their defensive shortcomings and say, hey, that's

(41:38):
the reason why they're actually losing. And maybe the Chiefs
are a year ahead of expectations with Patrick Mahomes. I
don't think if I had come on before the season
started and I had said, Hey, Chiefs fans, Patrick Mahomes
gonna throw fifty touchdown passes this year, all everybody who's
listening to the show would have thought it was the
most ludicrous prediction I'd ever made. And maybe the defense

(41:59):
just needs to get short up in the off season.
But it is pretty intriguing I think uh to look
at their season as as sort of a line of
demarcation between before Kareem Hunt and after Kareem Hunt, and
if the Chiefs do lose, it's gonna be seen as
the latest in a long line of playoff utility. And

(42:21):
it got me thinking, Chiefs or Cowboys, which of these
star crossed franchises has been more cursed? Since was the
last year that the Kansas City Chiefs won a home
playoff game, Joe Montana was their quarterback. Since then, it

(42:44):
has been an ocean of futility for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Since the Cowboys last won their final Super Bowl with
Troy Aikman, they have also similarly struggled. They have law
every Divisional round playoff game they have had since since then.

(43:04):
I believe I am correct. They have not been able
to advance at all, which has had the tougher postseason history.
The Chiefs have only won one game. The Cowboys have
won four. But if you go back and listen, and
I'm sorry, Chiefs fans, I hate to have to do
this to you, but here is the record of futility

(43:27):
when you run through everything that has happened to the
Kansas City Chiefs. And I think I misspoke that I
misspeak when I said that they have ninety five. Was
I given him too much credit? I think the Chiefs
have not won a home playoff game? My bad? Is
it now? It's ninety three? Sorry, chief fans, I was

(43:48):
giving you too much credit. You lost at home? Uh?
And this is the this is the roster in ninete
Joe Montana. That's how long ago it was Joe Montana
won a home playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in
overtime twenty seven to twenty four. Since that time, the

(44:13):
UH they have managed the UH. The Chiefs have to
lose at home. I'm sorry to have to do this
to you. In nineteen ninety six to the Colts, in
nineteen eight, to the Broncos, in two thousand three, to
the Colts, in two thousand uh, and let's see two

(44:33):
thousand and ten to the Ravens, in two thousand and
sixteen to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and in two thousand seventeen
to my Tennessee Titans. That is a lot of postseason futility. Now.
To be fair, they have won one playoff game since nine.

(44:53):
In the twenty fifteen playoffs they went on the road
and they beat the Houston Texans. Other Wise, the Chiefs
have lost every playoff game they have been in since
Joe Montana. That is UH. They they lost the conference
championship game to the Buffalo Bills back in nineteen ninety
three on the road in Buffalo. UH. And then they

(45:14):
have been in the playoffs in ninety four, ninety seven,
two thousand three, two thousand six, two thousand ten, two
thousand thirteen, two thousand fifteen, two thousand sixteen, and two
thousand seventeen, and they have lost all those games except
for one where they beat the Houston Texans, and in
particular Arrowhead Stadium you think of as being such an

(45:37):
incredible home field environment, and they have lost all of those.
I mean that this is a brutal This is a brutal,
brutal situation going all the way back to particularly for
a place like Arrowhead Stadium, where everyone talks about how
how dominant of a home field advantage they should have,

(45:58):
and they haven't won a home playoff game since. So
when I asked the question, and this is our poll question,
who's most likely to pull off the upset? And all
the votes come rolling in, Over twenty thousand of you
have voted so far, and the Colts are the favorite
to pull off the upset. I bet a lot of
Chiefs fans out there just kind of nod their head
because that's a quarter century of not winning a home

(46:21):
playoff game. That is a long time. And I asked
the question, which one has been more star crossed them
or the Dallas Cowboys since the mid nineties, But man,
I think it has to be the Chiefs, right, because
the Cowboys have had spectacular defeats, whether it was Tony
Romo not being able to field a snap on a
what should be a chip shot field goal, whether it

(46:44):
was the desk catch not catch even when they were
the number one overall seat and losing that game to
the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys have only one what
is it four now playoff games since their last Super
Bowl win in Sason, So they've certainly had a lot
of defeats over the years, but nothing compares to the

(47:06):
Kansas City Chiefs, who go all the way back to
not having won a playoff game. What do you guys
think about that, Danny g which one has been more
star crossed? Chiefs or Cowboys? Yeah, I'm gonna go with
you on this one. It sure feels like the Kansas
City Chiefs have had the bigger struggles. Yeah. And I mean,
you look at the other teams that are in the playoffs.

(47:27):
The Saints have won a Super Bowl in recent history, right,
we know the Eagles are the defending Super Bowl champs. Uh,
And the Rams have won a Super Bowl and they
were so good before when they left St. Louis in
the early two thousand's with Kurt Warner and Marshall Falk
and the Greatest Show on Turf, all of that business.
They won a Super Bowl in what uh nine season,

(47:50):
I believe. And then you've got the UH Cowboys, who
are I think probably the more most star cross team
in the NFC this year. But you look at the
a f C we tossed the Patriots out. Could argue
the Chargers and Philip Rivers They've been in the mix
a lot, They've just never been able to quite get
it done. So, but I think you don't look at

(48:10):
them and think, oh my God, like they are eternally
cursed because they've won enough playoff games under Philip Rivers.
I know that they haven't quite been able to put
everything together, but in general, I would say you don't
feel like they are cursed. The Colts obviously had a
great deal of success with Peyton Manning. Uh they won
one super Bowl with him, even if they lost the

(48:31):
Super Bowl to the Saints. I think clearly the two
most star crossed, most strained history teams right now are
the Chiefs and the Cowboys. But I think it's tough
to beat the Chiefs not having won a home playoff game.
Since even when you think about Romo and not being
able to fill the snap, and even when you think
about the desk caught it didn't catch it, that was

(48:52):
a divisional round playoff game. If I'm not mistaken, that
would have advanced the Packers in that Uh in that sorry,
it would have advanced the cow Boys in that scenario.
Um who they played that year? Was that the Falcons year?
I can't even remember what who won the NFC that year?
When the desk caught it or didn't catch it game
happen with the Packers advancing. I think that might have

(49:14):
been the Falcons year, But I'm not a pent sure
all these years and run together, Um all right? Uh,
Eddie Garcia more star crossed the the Chiefs or the
Cowboys since the mid nineties, I would have to go
with the Chiefs. And like I said, it doesn't make
any sense because Arrowhead seems like such a great place
to play. It would seem like it would be such

(49:35):
a home field advantage for them, and yet uh, it's not.
It doesn't make any sense. They've found ways to lose
those home playoff games and I can't explain it. But
like I said, if they fall behind early against the Colts,
that life, the life will be sucked out of that stadium,
and they're all gonna say, here we go again. The
Cowboys have not won the divisional round playoff game. They've

(49:57):
been in the divisional round playoff game. They'll lost to
the Green Bay Packers, obviously, and the did des or
did does not catch the catch the ball, which was
the only time really that that you felt like the
that they really had a chance in the Romo era
to really make a run and get into a huge game. Uh.
They lost also in the divisional round playoffs back in

(50:19):
two thousand nine, UH to the Minnesota Vikings. UM. But
by and large, they tended to to lose whenever they
got into the playoffs, and they tended to lose in
the wild card round. UM, notwithstanding what happened against the
Green Bay Packers a couple of years ago. But it
is interesting. Anybody want to take the argument, doub you
want to take the argument on behalf of the Cowboys

(50:39):
or do you still feel like as well, looking at
how bad the Chief's history has been, that this is
not even a contest. Well, there's one of the team
on my mind that's not in the playoffs this year
is the Vikings. They've had there are there are tons
of look historically right now, I think the team that
is the most cursed in the NFL is the Detroit Lions.
I mean, the Lions have not want to layoff games

(51:00):
since Barry saying I believe I'm correcting this. They haven't
won a playoff game since Barry Sanders was their running
back back in the nineties, and most of the years
they haven't even been close to the playoffs. So I
think if you're just pointing to and they've never won
a Super Bowl and they're one of the original NFL teams,
if you're just pointing to the most cursed franchise in
all of the NFL right now, I think there's no

(51:22):
doubt at all that it is the Detroit Lions. But
for teams like that haven't gotten into the playoffs, Yes,
certainly the Vikings have had a lot of tough breaks
once they've actually gotten into the playoffs. But I think
even comparing to the Chiefs, I think the Chiefs are
worse than the Vikings because the Vikings have been in
the NFC Championship game, even if they haven't been able

(51:44):
to advance to the Super Bowl. Um, but so you,
But so are you on the Chiefs agreement? Here are
we unanimous? Roberto? The Chiefs have three playoff wins in
the nineties, at least the Cowboys had three Super Bowls,
So I think it's no question Chiefs. Yeah. And I
think the Chiefs are a little bit under the radar
because Kansas City is not a massive, huge market. If

(52:08):
the Cowboys had the losing streak at home that the
Chiefs have, this feels like it's a little bit in
their head. So I can't wait to see what's gonna
happen in this one. We'll ask my guy Jeff Schwartz
next about this because his brother Mitchell is on the
offensive line for the Kansas City Chiefs. Is there any
impact to the history here that it's been twenty five
years plus since the Chiefs the last one a home

(52:30):
playoff game. Is that gonna hang over this at all?
It's an excellent question. I Meanwhile, a lot of you

Garcia find out what's shaken in the world of sports.
Do you think do you think that Chiefs fans right
now I'm checking my Twitter feed and they're like, don't
put this on us. Do you think that they like?
What do you think the overriding feeling is going to
be in Kansas City more fear than anything else when

(55:21):
that game starts against the Colts, I would say, hoping
for the best, fearing the worst. Yeah, I think so.
Twenty five years a long time to not win a
home playoff is uh. We'll start with you from the NFL,
where it looks like the Dolphins the only team left
too yet to decide who their next head coach will be,
because the Bengals reportedly have chosen l A Rams quarterbacks
coach Zach Taylor to be their next head coach. Now,

(55:42):
the Rams are still in the playoffs, so the Bengals
can't currently negotiate a contract with him, but he's thirty
five years old again quarterbacks coach of the Rams and
no previous head coaching experience. In the NBA. We had
four games on the schedule, highlighted by the Spurs beating
the Thunder one seven and double overtime. Big game for
LaMarcus Aldridge of San Antonio, cur Ride fifty six points
in the win. Russell Westburg for Ocloma City and the

(56:03):
lost had twenty four points, twenty four assists and thirteen rebounds.
Nuggets have won eleven straight at home. There the top
team in the Western Conference and they beat the Clippers
one hundred heat over the Celtics one United the Kings
down the Pistons one twelve to one oh two. Top

Now back to Clint Travis and the OutKick the Cup Studios.
We are indeed here in the OutKick the Guy Go
out Kick Studios. Let me bring in my guy, Jeff
Shortz at Jeff shorts g e O f F on Twitter.

(57:09):
Played in the NFL for eight years. Brother is on
the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line. We talked off the
top of the hour to hear about the Chiefs playoff
utility twenty five years of not being able to win
a home playoff game. You played on the Chiefs. Now
your brother plays on the Chiefs. Is this something that's
talked about or do you think most players even know it? Well,

(57:32):
it's talked about because the media asked about it. I know,
you know. Pat Mahomes has been asked about it. My
brother was asked about the other day on Twitter. Um,
you know, the players probably don't really care too much
about it. It was only either last time that the
Chiefs played the Colts. Uh. The infamous came that you
that you cost us because I tech for people who
don't remember when you guys were up like twenty points

(57:52):
in that game, I texted you I was watching that game.
I remember I was out in l A doing television
of Fox and Uh. I texted you, congrats, this is
awesome watching that game. And then you guys ended up losing,
um and uh, and so you got back to your locker.
Was I the only person who had treated you congrats?
I doubt it. I doubt it. Um, they're probably we

(58:12):
are twenty eight points in the third quarter. It's only
five guys left on that team. Um, from that team,
they're still playing even even those guys, don't, you know,
don't really Yeah, So people out there, I wasn't that
crazy of an idea when I tweeted you congrats. You
guys were up twenty eight points in the third quarter. Correct, No,
we had an epic collapse. Um. Uh. Later by there

(58:32):
was kind a little bit of luck in that game.
But it is what it is. Um. You know the
I know the players. Notice, I'll tell you what. Here's what,
here's where, here's where this comes into play. I think tomorrow,
especially tomorrow, Wow, it's already um is. It's more of
the fans, right, so the fans uh know the history,
of course, and even go back to last year. I mean,
Mariota catches a touchdown pass to himself and when that happened,

(58:54):
it made the score twenty one ten, and I thought
to myself, here we go again. And that's the feeling
that's going to happen in the crowd. So the crowd
is gonna be fired up. Of course, number one seed
at home against the Colts. And the first bad thing
that happens, you're gonna feel in the crowd, Oh God,
here we go again. It's happening again. Second bat thing
that happen, I mean, there's better be interception, a bad
play on offense. You know, the defense gives up a

(59:15):
long touchdown. There's gonna be something bad happened. And every
time that happens, the crowd is going to think to themselves, Oh,
here we go again. And you're gonna players, you're gonna
feel that vibe. Now you're not gonna really react to
that vibe. But you can tell, like when the crowd
starts to go here, here we go again, right, he
gets all tense and everything, and I think that's what
it is. So the Teas sort of come out and

(59:37):
get a big leave. But that really hasn't shown to
be much of anything for them because their defense is
still them. They're fortune nothing of the Chargers and that
didn't matter, right, So that's the fielding man. It's just like, oh,
here we go again. I mean there there against the spread.
I don't know how you bet on the Chiefs this weekend,
and if you if you were betting this game, you
have to bet on the Colts. Like, there's no pressure
that to bet on the Chiefs this weekend. They're oh

(59:57):
and nine against the spread at home in the playoffs,
and there is so I guess you can say, oh,
they're due for one, but I don't know. I mean, like,
I feel like trends are there for a reason. So, um,
it's gonna be It's gonna be a battle, It's gonna
be a close game. I said, how nervous are you
watching this game when your brothers on the team who
was bad that last year? I was doing. I was

(01:00:18):
watching the game on radio last year. I was hosting
the radio show while watching the game, talk about it's
interesting thing. Um, yeah, it's gonna be tough, obviously, it's
it's it's bigger as the playoffs go. Um, I don't
think he's been I think he's won a playoff game.
They might have won a couple of years ago on
the first round. Um, I don't recall. So Uh, it's

(01:00:40):
pretty nerve wracking and I hope he gets there right.
Atlanta is a quick drive. I'd love to go to
the super Bowl and have him win that game, especially
um with the year he's had this year being a
great cap to the year. Yeah, I mean, I it sucks.
I need to stay off Twitter too when I'll watch
his games. But I don't. So here's the question we
were talking about earlier in the show too. How much
do you think the Chiefs, if at all, are impacted

(01:01:02):
by not having Kareem Hunt? Now? Yeah, I got this
question yesterday and I don't. I don't know. I mean,
the running team has been fine without him. I think
the thing they're missing if I want to be important
one thing, Um, it's I think Damie Williams Spencer, where
these guys don't break longer runs with with like without

(01:01:22):
help from Wineman. Right, so Creem Hunt was able to
just break through a lot of tackles and make guys
miss I don't think these guys are quite the same
as far as breaking these long explosive runs. I mean,
that's I think what they missed. And of course cream
Hunt was a dual threat guy. Right if you have
them on a first down or third down. I think
these these guys are more um rotating through through the offense.

(01:01:43):
But you know, running the football has never been any
reads thing that Chiefs are not terribly good at running
the football. This year ever, there but average middle of
the pack. Um. You know, they're a past first offense.
I'm not sure it hurt it's hurt them that much, um.
And I know people will will say, well, they don't
score as many points down and they date, but it's
like the Ravens and the Chargers back to back weeks
or top five defenses. So I'm not sure Cream Hunt

(01:02:05):
would have made it different. They still scored twenty eight
and twenty seven. That's not bad, um, But I think
that people have overblown that. I don't think they're pressing
that much. Do you buy into the impact of a
team like we we discussed this on locking in the
television show on FS one that I'm on the gambling
television show The Weather. You know it might snow. The

(01:02:26):
culture a dome team, they're outside. You've played on some
dome teams. I think over the year, do you buy
into that being very impactful? Um? I think I think
it's impactful. Um, it's more just the cold. I think
you your dome team, you're not used to play in
the cold, and it can be shocking. Um. And it's
more about the preparation up to that week. So you

(01:02:49):
land in Kansas City and the colts to get there
today at some point it's just cold, right, and you
feel that cold and you land there and you're like, oh,
it's cold outside. There's snow everywhere. Um, And then you
know it's cold and the kind of a little bit
it's cold when you're warming it up, it's cold. During
the game, it's cold. It's not cold you're actually playing.
If you're a player, but you're on the bench, it's
kind of cold. And the snow is interesting. I thought
to Ryan LEAs Um about this on the radio right

(01:03:12):
before the Apple Cup. The Apple Cup, washing More State
was in the snow that Friday night, and I said,
how's the snow going to affect Washing State's air ray
that the gardner mentioned the quarterback. He's like, He's like,
snow doesn't really UM affect the quarterback as much as
people think, because it's not. It's not really wet. Right,
Snow still can be wet, but it's not it's wet
is the problem wet and wind or the problem, but

(01:03:33):
just snowing. It's not very windy, it's not very wet.
The quarterback should be fine. Now Pat Mahomes has never
done this before, so that might be an issue. UM,
But it's the if it turns to drain or sleep
and becomes very windy, that's where the problem is. What
about um as you look forward? My favorite pick this

(01:03:54):
weekend from a gambling perspective is I like the Chargers,
and I think the Chargers might well win outright against
the Patriots because I think the Chargers are just a
better team. Like I think if you take away the
mythology and the history of the Patriots and just look
at this year's Chargers team against this year's Patriots team.
I think the Chargers are better. Am I crazy? Oh? No,

(01:04:17):
you're right here, But I don't think you can take
out the mythology of the chart, just like just like
the Chiefs, you can't take out the fact that they
have not been good at home playoff games. And that's
part of this, right, So you can go back to
last week the Chargers started the second half right that
they were dominating that game. They started second half with
blocked I mean with with with miss field goal, terrible
fumble and blocked kick right, blocked punt like that. The

(01:04:39):
Chargers tried to give the game away last weekend, and
then you know the last five minutes just playing awful
defense and a lot of Lamar Jackson. They hit a
running back over the middle field from was just just
bad defense. And I just don't think the Patriots. They
don't play that way. Right, If if you get the
Patriots opening, they'll take it. So and another thing they
consider here too, quay when Tom Brady when he's gotta

(01:04:59):
starts two dozen three, when he's getting less than gambling tickets,
he's eight oh and two against the spread and covering
by at least nine points. So uh, this is this
is another instance where everyone's on the Chargers. Um, I
will probably bet the Patriots just because I think. I
think the Patriots the two weeks off the Charges on
the third straight big road game, went to Denver, went

(01:05:19):
to Baltimore, now back to New England, and I just
kind of go on this until proven otherwise I go
with the Patriots. Um. Would I be surprised at the
Chargers want? Of course not. I think that, like you said,
they're more talented than New England. But no, only wins
these games all the time. So I'm going to New
England here minus the four. What about in the NFC?

(01:05:39):
We're talking to Jeff Schwartz, a year NFL offensive line
and his brother Mitch is on the offensive line starting
right tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs as they get
ready for their game against the Colts. Do you buy
into so you're from l ah, you have been to
games in the coliseum before. Do you think there will
be more Cowboy fans than ram fans in their game
on uh? In their playoff game out in l A. Yes. Um,

(01:06:04):
I've been in calling sum too. Is UFC football begin
then strong? In all? It's except it's not since seventy
thousands of doing the construction at that press box in there. Um,
you said the Cowboys have their training camp two hours
away up in Oxnard. I think people forget that that
they do that every year, and that's most heavily to
train and pretend to training camp. And they out there, Um,

(01:06:26):
and all those fans, they don't come from Dallas, they
come from Los Angeles to go up and watch the
Cowboys player. I think you're gonna get a good forty
five thousand Cowboys fans there. Um. I I know people
in Dallas that had started booking their players who do
the one go to l A this time the year. Man,
it's it's fabulous. So um, I think we're gonna get
forty fourty four thousand Cowboys fans. It's gonna feel like
a neutral site game. UM, would be really interesting to see.

(01:06:49):
Two is it's embarrassing the charter you're going to do
this is use a silent count at home. So embarrassing,
I do one of the rams will have to resort
to that, especially if they get down a little early
in the Cowboys of UM get fired up. I think
this game is gonna be close. I think the Cowboys play. Um,
too good of a defense for this game to get
away from them. They've played much worse offensively on the road,

(01:07:11):
which is concerned in the matchup with Aaron Doll. Whoever
plays left card for the Cowboys is a weakness for
the Cowboys or left card is the worst player on
the offensive line. So there are some things that, uh,
that that's worthy about the Cowboys. I didn't they cover
the seven and seven and a half whatever the numbers
that now I can see a game. I think both
teams scored in the mid twenties somewhere, which keeps us
getting close. I'm with you there. I think the Cowboys

(01:07:34):
do keep it close. And then in the final game, Um,
I'm curious on this angle for you, Like the Eagles
are coming out saying, oh, we're gonna get you know, revenge,
like we felt like they ran up the score on us. Meanwhile,
the other motivation angle, you've got the championship trophy wheeled
in with two hundred thousand dollars in cash by Sean Payton.

(01:07:57):
What's the play here in uh? In Saints Eagles? And
do you remember any ridiculous motivational tactics that were anywhere
near as similar as that that worked well during your
football career, either college or pro. It was two thousand
mother than one dollar bills, by the way, which is
really funny. Or you can go straight to the Bourbon
Street and spend those at the Penthouse, Penthouse Forum and

(01:08:18):
all those places. I'm sure the guys would have hit him,
did that, Rix Cabaret. The thing about the thing about
the motivation is if you remember that game, the Equals
went forward like fourth and short like twice in in
their own like they did it. They allowed the Saints
to score like two late touch ups because they went
for it. They went for it for good reasons. You're
gonna stare you want to seven or fourth start fourth

(01:08:40):
and eight and you're at the twenty you know, eight
years ago, and you're going for it. I mean that
I don't believe quite in running up the score type
of thing, especially in the NFL. UM I would say
the Saints are more. I mean, that's pretty that's pretty
badass motivation right there. You wheel the trophy and and
the money and you stay here, guys three games and
do this. Two of them's in THEE LI one battle.

(01:09:01):
I like the Saints over twenty nine points. Um, they
have averaged thirty seven points at home this year. Where
is Jeff going? Where are you going? You sound like
you're being intact. Are you safe? What what happened? We
just lost your voice? Oh I'm here, You're on my back.
You're back, You're back. I thought maybe you're being you're
being assaulted. Early this morning, somebody's kidnapping where my cute

(01:09:24):
probably know they're they're my daughter screaming in the background. Um.
So the Saints have have scored thirty seven points at
home on the average of the seven games to bring
a start at this year. They always forget that because
I had had three game stretches year where they where
they were on the road and then scored a lot
of points. I think over twenty nine points is my
favorite bet in this game. It feels like this game
ends up going one of two ways. Either the Eagles

(01:09:46):
win this game or the Saints blow them out. I
just don't see kind of a close Eagle close Saints win.
I just I can't see it. I would lean and
this is a terrible point of play, but I've been
taking the Saints of minusty eight. But I like the
Saints over twenty nine points. I didn't they score a
lot of points in this game, specially the Eagles secondary
really painted up. Eagles try to try to double last

(01:10:07):
time tomorrow and Thomas didn't matter. The Saints fine don
ways to make players. Tedgan Jr. Is back, This a
huge deal over for the Saints. Uh, as we go
into the divisional round the playoffs, if you had to
make your Super Bowl prediction right now, which two teams
would you take the same as I've been saying Saints
and Patriots, I mean until proven otherwise going with New England,

(01:10:27):
you know, if they beat the Chargers this weekend and
then they get you know, Chiefs or Colts. Colts have
historically not played well against the Patriots in the playoffs,
especially with Andrew Luck at the Helm and then um
and then you know and then uh or the Chiefs
and then as you've already been them and get Tom
Brady against Pat Mahomes. So um, I think New England

(01:10:47):
still took over otherwise in the stats to me, I mean,
they're at home, They're five AO at home in the
playoffs with Drew Brees. I just think that the Dome
is too much, um to uh to handle and they're
healthy of office and one especially now there's the two
we saw so until proven otherwise, I bet those two
two ms to make the super Bowl, and I'm gonna
ride with that right now. Outstanding stuff, I know, I said,
last question for you, But Tim Tebow is now engaged

(01:11:10):
to a twenty three year old former Miss Universe. Uh
your thoughts when you hear that Tebow at thirty one
or thirty two? I think she's twenty three, like I said,
and she's former Miss Universe? Is this Tom d n A. Yes,
I'll be good for him. But how about the rings?
Like seven and a half carrots? That's a little that's
a little bunch story. Don't have to go that that

(01:11:30):
big there. But the question is is like does he
even do a tell interview after like the Wedding Night?
Like I'm wondering how that's gonna work because like someone's
gonna try to buy the rights to his Wedding Nights story? Right?
Still a virgin, Still a virgin, Tim Tebow? Um, good
stuff as always? Just what's that? Do you think he
really is still? I should have to answer that question now.

(01:11:52):
I don't know. I think he still is. Yeah. Uh,
that's Jeff Shortz. Go follow him on Twitter at Jeff
Schwortz's brother. Well, Mitchell be playing for the Chiefs. You
can watch him and follow him on Twitter during the games.
When we come back, I got an animal Thunderdome for you,
and we'll talk about Tim Tebow getting engaged at to
a three year old former Miss Universe. If you didn't hear,
that's the story happened yesterday. This is out tore the

(01:12:13):
coverage on Fox Sports Radio. Tim Tebow's theme music now
engaged to Miss Universe. Bringing us back to the guy
go out kick Studios. Men. M Drive is a supplement
I use every day. You should consider it too if
you want to feel stronger, have more energy and drive.

(01:12:34):
Now is the time to start taking M Drive to
learn more. To learn more, visit M drive for men
dot com today. Refine your prime with M drive us
a code clay get off any of their products. Uh.
Tim Tebow now engaged to a twenty three year old
South African former Miss Universe. Uh that news coming out yesterday, UM,

(01:12:56):
and Uh more power to him. That seems like a
winner in the genetic lottery. Tim Tebow gonna be likely,
I think in into the major leagues this year, probably
starting off his year in Triple A. Remember how much
people derided and and ridiculed his attempt his quest to

(01:13:16):
become a major league baseball player. I think it's very
likely that Tim Tebow plays for the Mets this year,
and again, he'll probably play. I think you would have
been played last year if he hadn't hurt his ankle.
He got a bad ankle sprain if I remember correctly,
at the end of last season. Otherwise, I think he
would have played at them for the Mets last year.
And uh. I think he plays Triple A UH this year,

(01:13:37):
which is a pretty incredible accomplishment for Tim Tebow. And honestly,
we talked about Kyler Murray and the decision that he
was gonna make, and by the way, I couldn't even
my mentions. I don't. It's crazy how opinionated people are
about what Kyler Murray should do. I don't remember a
time when there has been more of a deluge on
social media. My perspective is, if you go in the

(01:13:58):
first round in the NFL, stand to make a lot
more money. I think that's the smartest financial decision he
can make. Obviously for his own life, he can play
whatever sport he likes more than the other. Um. But
Tebow is evidence that you could potentially go into the
NFL for years and then still make it into Major
League Baseball, because it's pretty wild to see what Tim

(01:14:19):
Tebow is accomplished there. I think he has far exceeded
what anyone could have anticipated him being able to pull
off in the world of baseball so far. And if
he were a little bit younger, if he had kept
playing baseball full time, I don't think there's any doubt
he would have ended up being a major League baseball player.
But I have got for you guys right now an

(01:14:40):
animal Thunderdome story that I saw yesterday that I thought,
we have to make sure that we hit before I
lose and forget about this. Can we cue the music, boys, ladies,
and gentleman. I'm just glad I was there, boys and
goods thought he thought I was like this enormous piece

(01:15:02):
of chicken dime times. This is Animal thunder Doll Nick Watner.
I don't know if you guys heard about this guy,
Nick Watner. And there's audio to go with this, and
I haven't even listened to the audio myself, which makes
me think we should play it, maybe at the top

(01:15:22):
of our three here. As we continue to break down
the NFL divisional playoff games. Nick Watner was out in
a typical day of surfing in southern California. He's a
cow Poly sophomore communications major. At about ten am, after
an hour in the ocean, Watner said, things went a
little bit bad. It all happened quickly, but I turned

(01:15:46):
and I saw that a fifth team foot great white
shark had one of my legs in its mouth. The
shark bit down on the lower part of his legs,
around his ankles, and then up to his thighs in
a skirmish that he estimates lasted a few seconds, though
his mind was racing and it's hard to say exactly.
Watner kicked the shark hard in the head and wrangled

(01:16:08):
himself free. Uh The experienced surfer said he didn't feel
any pain initially as adrenaline shot through his body. After
releasing him, the shark turned in a flash, leaving Watner
with a lasting haunted image. Haunting image of its entire torso,
giant head, massive jaws, and beady eyes as it pivoted away.

(01:16:29):
The thing was huge, Wattner said he estimated it to
be fifteen feet with an eighteen inch dorsal fin. Watner
believes the shark was biting out of curiosity realized the
object in his mouth wasn't the taste it was looking for. Um.
He then swam into shore, removed his wet suit, and
checked all over his legs where he had obviously a

(01:16:51):
lot of wounds. Uh and uh. He then made a
five minute walk on his own with a friend of
the parking lot and then they both have lifeguard training
and they made sure that he didn't have any major
arteries that had been severed um, despite the fact that
he had a lot of different cuts. They drove him
to the San Luis Obispo Hospital where he received fifty

(01:17:15):
stitches before being discharged, and he has not been able
to return back to school yet. Does say that he
grew up in Palos Verdes and he plans on continuing
to surf since he has been surfing at l A
area beaches for his entire life. Um. This is a
wild story. So a fifteen foot great white shark bites him.

(01:17:38):
He then walks himself to the car and uh. It
appears that that he is fine and he's not gonna
stop surfing. If you got bitten by a shark, this
is my question for you, Danny G Would you ever
go in the ocean again? Uh, that's a very easy answer.
Hell no, Right, if I ever got bitten by a shark,

(01:17:58):
there's no way I ever get in the water again.
Maybe in the water like up to your knees or
something like that, but there's no way I ever go
in deep enough for a shark could ever by me again?
He says, it's such a low probability of happening. He's
not worried about it. But once one time you've been
bitten by a shark. It's like that guy, Remember that
amazing guy we had on the Animal Thunderdome who got

(01:18:20):
bitten by a rattlesnake, attacked by a bear, and bitten
by a shark, all in like uh, in the same year.
Remember that story. I mean, that's one of the most
improbable things ever. All the guy needs to do is
get struck by lightning. But to me, that's a different
level of crazy. To go back into the into the
water after you've already been bitten. You have to really
love and have a passion for surfing to want to

(01:18:42):
get back in there and do it again. Yeah, and
I would just be so afraid already as a surfer
of of the potential to be attacked. But if I
got ever bitten by a fifteen foot great white shark, no,
that's the shark's home. I'm never going back in the
water again. Uh. That is That is my analysis of
that situation. Aation. All right, we come back, final hour
of the show. We're gonna dive back in pull questions

(01:19:04):
out there. Which of the underdogs is most likely to
pull off the upset in the divisional round of the

spending your Friday morning with us. There is a lot
to discuss as we roll into the weekend, uh in
particular our poll question which is hanging out there and
you can go vote in by seeking me out on
Twitter at Clay Travis. Who is the most likely to
pull off the upset this weekend? Twenty five thousand of

(01:20:51):
you have voted in our poll question so far again,
that's on on Twitter at Clay Travis find me there
you can vote the upset or potential candidates, the Colts,
the Cowboys, the Chargers, and the Eagles. Thirty nine percent
of you say the Colts are the most likely to
pull the upset over the Kansas City Chiefs. If so,
that would prolong the home losing streak of the Kansas

(01:21:14):
City Chiefs, which now extends all the way back to three.
To even further, the Chargers are thirty percent of your vote.
Chargers on the road against the Patriots the NFC, you
expect the favorites to win. Twenty percent of you like
the Cowboys as the most likely to pull off the upset,
and eleven percent of you like the Eagles as most

(01:21:36):
likely to pull off the upset. Again, that is with
twenty thousand votes in now I mentioned it right off
the top of The Kansas City Chiefs have not won
a home playoff game since three. The Dallas Cowboys have
not advanced to the Divisional round of since sorry to
the NFC Championship game in forever either. Both of these
franchises have a ton up for grabs year, and we

(01:22:01):
don't know exactly how it's gonna go. But the last
time that the Dallas Cowboys played in the NFC Championship
Game was all the way back in ninetive. They have
not advanced beyond the Divisional round since when they went
to the Super Bowl and they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers there.

(01:22:23):
So both of those franchises, both the Cowboys and the Chiefs,
trying to erase nearly twenty five years of futility and
advanced to the conference championship game, the kNs Chiefs trying
to get their first win in twenty five years at home,
and the Dallas Cowboys trying to advance to the NFC
Championship Game for the first time since nine Now to

(01:22:46):
some of you out there and don't seem very long ago.
But the easy way to uh to to think about
it is there are kids who are now thirty years
old who cannot remember the last time the Kansas City
Chiefs won a home playoff game. That's pretty wild to

(01:23:07):
think about. Thirty year olds out there who were Kansas
City Chiefs fans probably don't remember that Joe Montana game
because they would have been five years old. So they've
literally lived a quarter century of their lives without the
Kansas City Chiefs ever playing in a big game. And
if you're a Cowboys fan, and you're an old school

(01:23:27):
Cowboy fan, um, you will remember when the Troy Aikman
days existed and when the Cowboys won all of those
Super Bowls. But if you're a relatively young Dallas Cowboy fan,
even you know, about to graduate from college, you don't
really ever remember the Dallas Cowboys being a really significantly

(01:23:48):
relevant franchise on the NFL landscape. So this is a
massive game for the Dallas Cowboys as they travel on
the road to the Rams and try to advance to
the edge of the Super Bowl by getting to the
NFC Championship games. So we'll see what happens. There gonna
be a lot of fun to track. We haven't opened

(01:24:09):
up the phone lines all day. I'll open up the
phone lines here. Eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine. If you want to react the divisional
round games, uh, eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine. But I want to bring in the
crew now, and I want to ask this question. We
know that everybody out there in the out kick Army
they think the Colts are the most likely to pull

(01:24:31):
the upset. They think the second most likely team to
pull off the upset the UH is the um Chargers.
But who has the most at stake? Which team of
these eight has the most at stake? As we roll
into the divisional round playoffs and even we could break

(01:24:51):
it down into a f C and NFC, Just who
has the most at stake? My argument? My argument here,
and you may not have Are you with me? I
think that arguably in the NFC, Sean McVeigh has the
most at stake. Right now you might think that's crazy.
Let me explain why Dallas Cowboys lose to the Rams.

(01:25:13):
It's still a really successful season. I think for the
Dallas Cowboys, you come back next year with a Marii
Cooper for a full year. You feel better about Dak.
You got the playoff victory under his belt, You won
a home playoff game, you won your division. I think
if you had told Dallas Cowboy fans when they entered
into the season, hey, you are right now going to

(01:25:34):
win the NFC East and you will win a playoff game.
Would you take that? Cowboy fans would have signed up
for that in a heartbeat. I think if you told
the Eagle fans, Hey, you won the Super Bowl last year.
Carson Wentz is gonna get hurt again, but you're gonna
make the playoffs and you're gonna win a playoff game. There.
I think Eagle fans would have probably said, you know what,

(01:25:54):
that's a pretty good season, right um. I think for
the Saints, hey, you're gonna be the number one over
all team in the NFC. You're gonna have home filled advantage.
I think they would have signed up for that in
a heartbeat. Now. Granted, if they were to lose to
the Eagles, that would feel awful, but the Saints are
still pretty set up and look and look pretty outstanding.
So I'm gonna just my my answer on the fly,

(01:26:17):
I think the Saints have the most at stake. I
was gonna say the Rams because Sean McVeigh. Everybody wants
the next Sean McVeigh, and if he loses a playoff
game for a second straight year at home, maybe some
of the bloom will be off the Rows. But I
still think in the Rams case, you have to take
a step back and say, Okay, look how bad were

(01:26:37):
the Rams And when Sean McVeigh came in and took
over this franchise and look at how quickly he has
turned them around. Yes, they made the playoffs the last
two years, but and they've lost in the first round.
But even if that were to happen, it's still a
pretty impressive turnaround. I think the Saints have the most
at stake in the NFC, and the reason why is

(01:26:58):
because Drew Brees is third nine years old. How often
do you get an opportunity to play not one, but
two games in the Super Dome with a trip to
the Super Bowl. This might be Drew brees last best
chance to actually win a Super Bowl. Um and the
Super Bowl this year is in Atlanta, which means that
Saints fans could flood into Atlanta and buy up as

(01:27:20):
many of those tickets as they possibly can. So I
think the Saints have the most at stake in the
NFC in the a f c. Uh, let's kind of
break this down. I feel like the Colts they're playing
with house money right now. I feel like, if you
are being reasonable from a Colts fan perspective, if I
had told you that coming off of a season uh

(01:27:41):
where he didn't play and a shoulder injury, that some
people started to say, hey, maybe this is gonna challenge
Andrew lux ability to come back at a high level
ever again as a quarterback. If I had told you
you're going to advance to the playoffs and you are
going to win a playoff game there, I think every
Colts fan in America would have signed up immediately. Now,

(01:28:04):
once you're into the playoffs, you don't want to be
happy with what you've already achieved. But if the Colts
lose to the Chiefs on the road, I think most
people out there who are reasonable Colts fans would say,
you know what, this was an incredible, incredible year for us.
And I think similarly, if you are out there right
now and you are a Chiefs fan, I think if
I told you in year one of Patrick Mahomes, your

(01:28:27):
boy's gonna throw for fifty touchdowns, you're gonna be the
overall number one seed in the playoffs. I think even
if the Chiefs lose, and I know it's been twenty
five years and the curse of home playoff games and
everything else, I think even if the Chiefs lose, most
people in Kansas City, when they look back on this season,
are gonna say we were at least a year ahead

(01:28:49):
of schedule. This is a phenomenal outcome for a twenty
three year old quarterback. Kareem Hunt. We had those issues arise.
We're in pretty good shape. We just got to fix
the defense. So I don't don't think either the Colts
or the Chiefs have the most at stake. I kind
of feel like, honestly, it's the Chargers because the Chargers
have not been in this situation that often, and you

(01:29:12):
just don't know how many times Philip Rivers is gonna
get this opportunity again. I know it's a young team
that kind of surrounds him. I know there's a lot
of optimism about moving into the new stadium. I know
he's only thirty seven and Drew Brees is thirty nine,
and so the expectation is he can continue to get better.
He's playing against a forty one year old guy. Clearly,

(01:29:34):
the Patriots don't have the most at stake because they've
been a dynasty. So if they lose a home playoff games,
so what. I guess you could make the argument this
could be the last ride for Brady. I'm not necessarily
as sure that that's the case. I think it's the
Chargers because you just don't know how many times you're
gonna be back in this scenario. Have a twelve and

(01:29:54):
four season be in this particular lineup, with this particular
situation against a team that you can beat. Do you
guys agree with me? When you break down the NFC
and the a f C, the teams with the most
at stake right now are the Saints and the Chargers.
Who would you say, Danny G Yeah, Well, I was
set to start arguing with you over you picking the

(01:30:15):
wrong Sean, but then you changed your answer on the fly.
So I definitely agree with you that Sean Payton and
the Saints have the most to lose in the NFC
because the first thing that came to my mind was
how awful that loss was last year. Now we know
if you had been on the field, you wouldn't you
wouldn't have allowed Anne. I would have been able to

(01:30:37):
defend that play after a loss like that, and some
people thought maybe the Saints would have a hangover. They
weren't so sure, but then the type of season that
Drew Brees has had has just been phenomenal. They're set
up to go to the super Bowl, so that would
be a huge loss for them. Two seasons in a row.
And like you said at the age, Drew Brees, is
you're not guaranteed to have another morale this season like

(01:31:00):
this if you are breeze. So yeah, definitely the Saints
and the a f C. It's got to be the
Chargers because you laid it out perfectly about what's going
on with the Patriots and their dynasty. Chargers. They also
are lined up right now to get back to the
super Bowl. Finally. The last time they were in the
Super Bowl, they got absolutely smacked around by the forty

(01:31:20):
niners when we were little kids. They've been trying to
get back there ever since. Yeah, And and again, I
think when you're losing the playoffs, it's always devastating because
you go from man, maybe we're gonna win the super
Bowl too, and you know, kind of the abject feeling
of misery when you lose no matter what. But then
you take a step back and you have a little
bit of time to think and you can assess overall

(01:31:43):
on the season. And I think most of the teams
right now that are in the playoffs, they'll feel pretty
good about the season that they had because they can
build on it. Because it's an opportunity to get back
again because you're still relatively young and many of your playmakers,
I think with the Chargers and the Saints that feeling
might not be the same. What about you, Eddie Garcia,

(01:32:04):
you buy into this? Nope, I'm going I think you
know they say, don't second guess yourself, go with your
first instinct. I think you should have stuck with Sean
McVeigh and the Rams. Yeah. The reason why I the
reason why I bailed on that argument is just because
Jared Goff is young and Sean McVeigh is young, and
that team has had injuries with Cooper Cup and everything
else associated with with Todd Gurley's knee injury, and obviously

(01:32:28):
to keep to leave has had issues at the at
the cornerback position, and the defense has had a lot
of issues too. They did, however, build to win now
with many of the free agent signings that they made,
so that was gonna be kind of my argument. Plus
Sean McVeigh, Uh, if if he doesn't win this game,
I think a lot of the sort of hoopla surrounding

(01:32:49):
him will will start to receive a little bit. People say, Okay,
can he win a playoff game? So I understand that argument.
But then I go back and I look at Drew
Brees and I think, man, the guy's thirty nine years old.
They're at home. I think Saints fans will be more
crushed if they lose than Ram fans. Well, that might
be so, but again, the Rams will have lost back
to back years in games they were favored at home.

(01:33:11):
The bloom will be off the Rows from McVeigh. They'll say,
what you know, he does great in the regular season,
but he can't do anything playoffs. Saints already have a
Super Bowl with Breeze and and with Sean Payton. To me,
it's about McVeigh being exposed if they lose again to
the Cowboys. And I'm going with the Patriots in the
a f c uh. You know, they haven't lost the
home playoff games since twenty twelve or eight no at

(01:33:33):
home this year. If they lose this game at home
to the Chargers, all the people that have been finally
waiting to say the Patriots are done and dead with
a forty one year old Tom Brady, are going to
be all over the Patriots that it's over, the dynasty
is done, and this this team is now going to
be on the downturn. So I'm that's exactly what I
will say if I come in on Monday and the
Patriots lose. So everybody else dub what you got. I

(01:33:57):
got the Ramsey NFC. I agree with Eddie. You think
about all those offseason moves they made, they got sued
to lead Cooks, Peters. They're all in this season. So
if if they don't get it done this year after
all that, I don't know, uh what what They're They're
moving forward, but they do have a lot of time.
But a f C, I think the Chargers, like you said,
Philip Rivers, I mean his dower died for this team,
in my opinion, and I think I think they're gonna

(01:34:17):
do it. I think they're gonna do it as well. Roberto,
what would you weigh in on? And I see, I
got got the Saints because of the loss last year,
and then they have everything set up perfectly for them
to go to the Super Bowl with other games at
home and and then on in the a f C
and went with the Chargers as well. You know, they're
trying to get back to the Super Bowl of the
first times when they were when they lost the forty
Niners and then they're trying to find a stranglehold here

(01:34:39):
in Los Angeles and they're struggling to sell PSL. So
I think if they lose, they're not gonna help them become,
you know, relevant here in Los Angeles. It's possible that
we come back on Monday. This is crazy. I mean,
if you've just been talking about the history in trajectory
of the NFL, that the Rams could be hosting the
NFC Championship Game, and that the Chargers could be hosting

(01:35:01):
the a f C Championship Game, you want to talk
about a wild scenario. Um, I don't think that's ever
happened before. Has it? Where one city would host the
a f C and the NFC And to have it
happened this soon after the NFL returns to l A
would be wild. What would need to happen there? The
Colts would need to upset the Chiefs, The Chargers would
need to upset the Patriots, the Eagles would need to

(01:35:24):
upset the Saints, and the Rams would need to win
against the Cowboys as as the favorite. And if all
four of those results happen, you'd have the a f
C Championship Game and the NFC championship game both next
Sunday in l A uh. That sounds pretty smart to
break down that scenario. You know what, also is really
smart making sure that you start the new year off

Travis in the OutKick the Coverage Studios, joined now by
Dan Wetzel, Yahoo Sports national columnist here in the Geico
Outkicks Studios. Dan, You're gonna be in New England for
the game between the Patriots and the Chargers. It feels
like this might be the last stand for the page three.

(01:39:00):
It's in their Belichick and Brady dynasty. Are you buying
into that? Not necessarily they're going to lose to the Chargers,
although I think that could happen, but that this year
might be the last time we see the Patriots as
a legitimate you know, I think they've gotten what a
buy in nine straight years, all of those different accomplishments.
Do we feel like that might be finally coming to

(01:39:22):
a close. Do you get that sense? In New England?
They're still in the A of East. So uh, I
don't know who. You know, someone's got to step up
and and take that buy from them and beat them
next year. So, but certainly this is time ticks right,
it's winding down. The other thing, the real thing that

(01:39:42):
I think could be the end is the end of
Grock like Gronk, I think to retire and it's a
three legged stool there. Um, well, I thought it was
more of a three legged stool a year ago. Uh,
where Brady needed Grock and to to really succeed. He
has not had a great year and they're still here.

(01:40:04):
But um, you know, until the a FC East gets
gets better, I can't say, you know, we wouldn't be
here again next year, but certainly how many more years could?
You know? Patriots? Look, it's really hard to make three
straight Super Bowls. Uh, you know, it almost isn't I
don't know. I know Buffalo has done it. Um. I

(01:40:25):
think the last time a Super Bowl loser made a
Super Bowl it was a Buffalo back when they did
the four in a row. So it's hard to do.
I'm not I am I throughout this I've been much
slower to right off the Patriots because they usually find
a way. But that's the one thing they've got going
for him is there's not a lot of competition, and

(01:40:46):
so to to win a division and host a playoff
game next year would not be surprised. But I do
agree as a Super Bowl contender, Uh, you know, I'm
not sure there's a whole lot left after this year.
We're talking to Dan who Sports National call in this
you mentioned the Gronk angle. What kind of odds would
you set on this being Grons the last season? I

(01:41:08):
mean his performance in terms of his odds, in terms
of his uh, you know, reliability at the tight end
position has just gone off a cliff here. And we
see this happen sometimes in the NFL, particularly where guys
have taken a lot of hits over the years. Is
you don't just gradually get worse. It's like all of
a sudden, you just drive right off a cliff. Do

(01:41:29):
you think this could be Gronx last year? Absolutely? I
think it probably is Crons last year. Um, he's had
really big games. I mean he had, you know, the
the game against Miami where he um, you know, was
ill advisedly on the field. It's really is the only
thing that kept them from on that final play and

(01:41:51):
couldn't tackle. He shouldn't have been on there if they
hadn't made that mistake. Devin mccordy's on the field features
are probably number one seed. I am almost sure that
number one. See they win that game. Um, but in
that game, gron caught eight passes and it was the
all eight of his target. So he's still capable for
the big game. But I think when you see him,

(01:42:11):
he is um, he's beaten up. Um, he's a little
more mature, He's made a lot of money. Uh. And
I just but I think this is it. I think
it's like I'm gonna give that. You know, Patriots try
to trade him last year Detroit and Gronk next he
said he wouldn't go and would just retire. Uh. And
and I don't think the Patriots are gonna pay him.
They don't want to pay him the nine billion they

(01:42:33):
oh next year. Um, you know they could do better
off fine in a different tight end uh and using
their money in different ways or draft tight end. So
I think this is gonna be it for Gronk. Um.
I do think he still has a big game in him.
He's beat up. Um, he's not as effective. And I
just think that neither he nor New England wants us

(01:42:53):
to continue. When you look at Philip Rivers on the
other side, in this game, you're gonna be covering. And
we're talking to day so yeah who sports national columnists.
We just talked about whether this is the last chance
for the Patriots. You covered the NFL for a long time,
Philip Rivers has always kind of been there, right on
the periphery. He's clearly, I think, the best guy in

(01:43:15):
the NFL not to have really been to a super Bowl.
Is this his last best chance to do it? It's funny,
it's like his first best chance. Yeah, um no, I
mean he's made a bunch of playoffs, you know. Yeah.
Probably The thing that I just think about these playoffs is,

(01:43:37):
you know, I think he got the Saints, and I
think he got everybody else, and it's a really wide
open so um there there, you know, just nothing and
certainly nothing in the a f C would totally surprise me.
Um So I think that for for Rivers, he's playing
really well. This is a really good team. Um you know,

(01:43:59):
the the hardship of flaying three consecutive road games, presumably
that's what's gonna happen. That they could host next week
if Indianapolis wins and they win, which I think would
be sent just what a spectacle having the anti championship
game in the soccer stadium. Um So that's a possibility.
But yeah, this is clearly this is probably the best

(01:44:21):
team in the most wide open season for Philip Rivers
in his career. Charges are really good and you know,
kind of to go to your first topic. They're not
walking into New England and going, God, how how are
you gonna beat New England up there? Like New England's
beat a ball up there? So, Uh, if Rivers has
a really good game, Rivers is gonna need to have

(01:44:42):
a career game. If you're gonna beat the Patriots in
the playoffs, particularly up there, you've got to drive a
stake through their heart, like you have got to beat them.
We've seen this story so many last year Jacksonville had
them deat then they didn't. Um, you don't want that.
That fourth quarter with bread he gets it rolling and
it's cold and the crowd's going crazy up there. So

(01:45:04):
Rivers has been terrific this year. This is a really
good team. Uh, this is an opportunity he really needs
to seize. Uh. If he's ever going to be anything
more than a really good quarterback, you just never got there.
We're talking to Dan Wetzel, Yeah, who's sports and national columnist.
When you look at Cowboys Rams, when you look at St. Eagle's,
when you look at we're just talking about the Patriots, Chargers,

(01:45:25):
and certainly Colts Chiefs. The poll question that I put
up is which of those four teams has the best
chance to pull off the upset? Who do you think
has the best chance to pull off an upset? Um Well,
I certainly think the Colts. I really like the way
the Colts are playing right now. I mean, and you
look at over the last Uh, I don't know what

(01:45:48):
the number is, but they've got the number one defense
in the league over the last six weeks or ten
weeks or you know, eight weeks. There's not much that
it's really all that matters. Who cares what they're doing
in September, Andrew Luck is playing really well. Kansas City
has been known to blow games in Kansas City. Mahomes
has been unbelievable. Probably the m v P. But he's
still a first year quarterback. Uh, it's a different game

(01:46:10):
without the running. The running game is different now. It's
it's a little bit different team. So I would not
be surprised if the Colts winning. I really wouldn't be
surprised if any of the road team's winning at Dallas.
Very well, maybe home team in in in l A
they're playing in l A. But there's a there's a
we'll see what that crowd could be, but it could
be it's certainly gonna be thirty, it could be forty.

(01:46:32):
It might even be fifty or more percent Cowboys fans
in the l A Coliseum because you know, the Cowboys
have have have over the last sixty years in Stage
forty training camps out in l A. And they've spent
decades cultivating a fan base in l A. And I
had somebody say to me, you know, obviously no one
is quite sure, but like the Raiders are the number

(01:46:56):
one team in l A. And the Cowboys might be
number two, two and in the Rams number three. In
terms of popularity, the Chargers you know, almost non existent. Um,
So I could you know, I could see that, and
I certainly could see the uh, the Chargers winning in
New England. So, um but I think if I gave it,
if you had to saying who's who's most likely, I
would probably say the Colts, even though they're they're the

(01:47:19):
six seed going into Kansas City. What do you We're
talking to Dan Wetz, So, yeah, who sports and national columnist.
A couple of big stories out there that We spent
a lot of time on yesterday. If Kyler Murray were
your sign, what would you tell him? Um? Can I
get a loan? Uh? I you know, I think playing football? Um,

(01:47:42):
I mean I don't. I mean there's a lot of
money on the table, and that's kind of a tough question. Um,
he could make more money playing football. Right off the bat,
playing baseball is hard. Everyone kind of looks at baseball
and goes, hey, you can get these massive deals and
you can play for twenty years and you don't get

(01:48:03):
banged up. You can do all of that if you
can hit a curveball, which is you know, it is
extremely hard to do. We have no idea if Kyler
Murray can play in the majors. Most guys get to
the majors and they're I'm not I don't know the
stat but guys last as long in the in the
in MLB as they do in NFL. Like it's just

(01:48:25):
hard to make it, and so you can easily stall
out as a uh you know in that for I've
got the stats. I've got the stats for you. Sixty
six percent of first round draft picks in Major League
Baseball make the major make the Major leagues, but only
forty six percent of them make it to the point

(01:48:46):
where they get to pass their third year in Major
League Baseball. So you are more likely than not to
have less than a four year career in Major League
baseball if you are even if you are a first
round pick, which are the highest percentages. Obviously, if guys
they go on to Major League baseball. So it's a
lot harder to get to Major League Baseball than I
think most fans think NFL first round picks to make

(01:49:09):
the NFL and they get a four year, guaranteed contract.
Regardless of what happens, it's a tough call. Now here's
the other thing, though football is baseball is they micro
muscle sport um, and so it's harder to do than football.
Football is a macro muscle. It is athleticism and stuff
like that. He could give baseball a shot for three

(01:49:32):
or four years, and then he's young too by you
can then go play football and the NFL, if you're
in shape and you still have they'll take you. We've
seen those guys try that. Um. We're really only seeing
like Tebow and I'm not sure he'll ever make it.
And even if he does, you know how long is
he gonna last going the other way? So I might

(01:49:54):
tell him to give baseball a shot, and let's be
honest over the next you know, year or eighteen months
and say are we going to make it? And then
say hey, I'll enter the all enter the supplemental draft
in a year and a half. You kind of have
a feeling of what you're gonna make in baseball. It's
it's almost impossible to football to baseball. You can, especially

(01:50:17):
kid that athletic, although he's not very tall, go from
from from baseball to football. So I might tell him
to give the baseball shot first, but we not weighs
five years in the in Double A. We've seen a
lot of drama surrounding Antonio Brown and everything with the Steelers.
How do you think this thing plays out? And uh

(01:50:39):
is this sort of I think this year it feels
like we've seen a lot of drama in general surrounding
the NFL, but it all kind of connects to the
game itself, which feels almost NBA like and feels like
it's good for the NFL in general. But what do
you think The latest on Antonio Brown is the Steelers
owner came out and said, it's hard to foresee him
returning to the team. How do you think this situation

(01:51:01):
plays itself out? Yeah, he'll He'll be traded then. I
mean the Rooney's. You know, there is a lot of drama.
There is drama in Pittsburgh as much as anywhere else.
But they like to think there is not much drama
in Pittsburgh and they're just not gonna. Um. I just
I have a hard time seeing in Antonio Brown returned
to the Steelers, even though as talented as he is. Um,

(01:51:24):
when you essentially quit on the team, you can't get
you know, the coaches called Tomblin's calling you and you're
not returning these calls. You don't show competings. Um. It's
tough for and particularly Steelers organization, but any kind of
self respecting organization to stick around. So um. But I

(01:51:45):
think it's a huge blow to the Steelers. I mean,
the guy, the guy's an unbelievable talent, but at thirty
years old, Um, when when you have that kind of
drama on you, when you have that kind of late thing,
I I do not expect Antonio Brown back, I think,
but I think it's a I don't know how I
think that the Tomlin Roethlisberger era is in a lot

(01:52:08):
of trouble in Pittsburgh because I mean, look, you're you're
talking about you you were looking to go into this
year with Levan bell and and Antonio Brown, and by
week seventeen, yet neither of them and neither one was hurt,
you know, And now you're gonna go in the next
year with neither guy those are You just can't replace
that kind of talent. But I I expect him to

(01:52:28):
get traded. And yeah, your point of like, is there
drama in the NFL? Yeah, but it's it's the kind
of drama that just happens. It's not um, it's not political,
it's not all that's I mean, it's fine. It's NBA
type drama. Guys get mad, they don't want to play.
That's fine, it's good storylines for everybody. And and some
team Tonio Brown's can play next year. It's just where
and uh, even even as he's getting older, I mean,

(01:52:51):
he's a he's an immense talent. Um put it this way,
I don't think the Steelers would ever do it, but
like if if the Patriots could trade for Antonio Brown
and throw him in with Tom Brady for you know,
maybe next year's Tom Brady's last year or whatever. Like
boys that the invigoration of an offense on a short term,
there's no doubt at all that would be incredible. Dan Wetzel,

(01:53:12):
enjoy the game tomorrow. Thanks for waking up early with us.
We'll talk to you again soon. Ma man any time, man,
take care. That's Dan Wetzel, Yah who Sports National columnists.
When we come back, I'll break down all four games.
I'll tell you who's gonna win. I'll tell you how
to make money on him. This is occupa coverage on
Fox Sports Radio. Gotta go out Kick Studios. Final segment

(01:53:34):
of the week. Montel Jordan's bringing us back as he
always does. Final segment on Friday, leading into the Gambling Picks.
As we get ready to give you the Gambling Picks.
News continuing to be out there that another Sean McVeigh
disciple getting another head job. Reports are that the Bengals

(01:53:55):
are gonna move on from Marvin Lewis and go with
the long time core terbacks coach. Uh. Long time quarterbacks
coaches say a long time meaning short time. He's only
thirty five years old. It's wild to think about in
terms of the hiring process, how much everybody wants to
be the next Sean McVeigh when you consider that Sean

(01:54:19):
McVeigh still hasn't won a playoff game. It's one thing
back in the day when the Belichick era swept across
the NFL and it didn't matter anything other than your
proximity to Belichick. That was how everybody was getting hired
in the NFL. The Belichick coaching tree ended up having
virtually no branches outside a saban. But the Belichick New

(01:54:43):
England Patriot coaching tree has been a waste land. Whether
it's Al grow, whether it's Eric Mangini, whether it was
Josh McDaniels, whether it was Charlie Weiss, whether it was
Romeo Cranell. All these guys got jobs, and all of
them fell flat on their face. Matt but Tree shed
not off to a great start in Detroit either, and

(01:55:03):
the only reason they really got the job was their
proximity to Bill Belichick. Well, now it's even wilder. Sean
McVeigh hasn't even won a playoff game. At least Belichick
was winning super Bowls When everybody decided they wanted to
find the next Bill Belichick. Now everybody wants the next
Sean McVeigh, and McVeigh hasn't even won a playoff game yet.

(01:55:23):
It's pretty crazy to follow. But that is the that
is the latest in the universe of NFL coaching. Now,
the Miami Dolphins appeared to be the only team that
still has a head coaching opening, and nobody seems really
certain what direction they're gonna go. But let me go
ahead and cue the music. Boys, it's time for the
blood band guarantees. Let me give you my four NFL

(01:55:46):
Divisional Round playoff picks. But first let's hear the music.
It's time Mr mcivain on it move for Clay Travis
to make us rich, including the legendary, famous, well known,
talk of the town, most celebrated. I'd buy that for
a love bank guaranteed. Alright, I'm gonna go in order

(01:56:11):
for you guys. Remember two games on Saturday, two games
on Sunday. I think this is the best weekend of
NFL games there is all year long. In theory, the
eight best teams Colds go on the road against the Chiefs.
There may be some snow Chiefs trying to get their
first home playoff win since Colts trying to establish that

(01:56:32):
Andrew Luck is one billion percent back better two big
time passing touchdown quarterbacks and Andrew Luck and Patrick Mahomes
going head to head. I like the Colts to cover
the five and a half and maybe to win this
one out right. I also like the under, even though
everybody's saying a lot of points are gonna be scored
in this one. I think Marlon Mack and the Colts

(01:56:52):
may try to take the air out of this game,
much like they did against the Texans. I think the
Colts defense is underrated. I love the holds here plus
five and a half against the Chiefs. I actually think
the Colts may well win this one outright. Um in
the other game Saturday Night, be out in Lost Angels.
How big will the crowd be for the Dallas Cowboys?

(01:57:14):
This line hanging right around to touchdown all week. I
like the Cowboys to cover. I like the Cowboys to
cover against the Rams. Also wouldn't shock me if the
Cowboys won this game outright. The more you look at it,
the Ram defense down the stretch has been very wobbly,
weren't very good against the Eagles, and weren't very good
against the Lions. Certainly were not very good against the

(01:57:37):
Chicago Bears. I'm not buying that they suddenly got healthy
against the forty Niners and the Cardinals. I think the
Cowboys covered the seven may win this one outright. So
on Saturday, I'm on both the underdogs, Colts and Cowboys.
On Sunday, my favorite pick of the week, I think
the Chargers beat the Patriots outright. The Chargers are better

(01:57:58):
than the Patriots on the offense of defensive sides of
the ball. Maybe the Patriots are better on special teams.
But I think the Chargers win this one out right
right now. You can get them plus four plus four
and a half, So go ahead and take them there,
the Chargers. And finally, I ain't the Saints blow out
the Eagles again. I think the Saints win this game
by double figures. So the one home favorite that I

(01:58:21):
love this weekend is the New Orleans Saints. My four picks,
if you want to put them all in a par
lay together, which is what I like to do sometimes
to have a little fun. I've got the Colts, I've
got the Cowboys, I've got the Chargers, and I have
got the Saints. Those are my three picks headed into
the weekend. We'll see how I do on Monday, when

(01:58:42):
we will have a great show lined up for you
to react to all the NFL Divisional Round playoff games.
Should be a lot of fun. Thanks for your support
all week long. We started off the weekend San Jose, California,
finish it off back home in Nashville. Great week of shows.
